I had something wrong with one of the pumps on my pool. I called AHS and scheduled someone to come out, then the company who was contracted with them called me to schedule a time. After they came out to take a look at it, they ordered a part. Then they called me back to install it and it got installed. It was a pretty easy process and the contractor was great. I've dealt with them before and I like them a lot. They're quick to respond and they get the work done really fast. But when I initially called American Home Shield, I requested for Advantage Pools because they had been out to my house before several times and the lady I talked to told me that I couldn't request somebody. But in the end, they were still the company that came out.

When I first moved from California to Las Vegas, AHS was recommended. I've had it for 20 years and I'm sticking with them even though I'm in retirement and they are getting a little expensive. I filed a claim when I had a toilet that kept running. Two parts needed to be replaced. American Home Shield sent me Advanced Home Services and everything went very well. Their tech came and had the parts in the truck. They were common parts that had to do with the flow something and the flapper on the inside. Now, the toilet is working like it should. It's good.

I had Advanced Home Services here before for another problem. When I called in, I got American Home Shield's automated system and it was kind of a poor system. I had to call back three times because something was wrong with the system. I couldn't get Advanced Home Services' number or the system was giving me the wrong number. Something happened with, "Your ticket or complaint has been forwarded to Advanced Home Services." I had to go back in my file and look their number up in order to get that telephone number as part of the process. But they called me right away the next day. This was all over the weekend.

I understand automation and it does get a lot of things done quicker. But the elder people opt out of all this automation. 20 years ago, this wouldn't have bothered me. But like elder people that are still in their homes and still have American Home Shield as their provider, all this automation does not work for them. I don't think any company should just assume that because everything is online and you can do all of this stuff online.

I feel good about the service from Home Shield because whenever I have to put in a claim, I just go online, which is convenient. Within an hour or so, it normally sends me a contract number and name. Sometimes, the contractor calls me and sometimes I call them, it depends. But I'm okay with waiting to see if they call. They're pretty fast with their services and the contractors are usually pretty good.

My icemaker wasn't making any ice and we couldn't figure out why and what was going on. Two guys from Sears came out, one was in training, and they both came with their masks on. The tech discovered the problem inside the icemaker itself. There's some little bar in there and that little bar was stuck down, which made the icemaker think that the bin was full of ice and it wasn't. He had to take the whole thing off and go in there, like a little surgery. He explained everything, not only to me, but to his trainee. They were wonderful.

My AC wouldn't turn on so I went online and I submitted a claim with AHS. I paid my $100 deductible and the guy came and fixed it. He was beyond incredible and everything's working fine. The only thing is, I wouldn't say it's a complaint, that sometimes it's hard to speak with an actual person if I have an issue instead of just filling out a claim.

We have policies with AHS on two properties and have struggled thru 5 claims after 6 yrs paying premiums into the system. None of the claims came thru without us paying $1000s out of pocket for a full repair. Recent example, our A/C unit compressor shorted but AHS's contractor said we could not use the one he had at his shop and we have to wait 4-6 weeks (current temp outside 103) because it must be from AHS 's inventory of inexpensive parts they warehouse. Then we find AHS only covers the broken compressor and the contractor quotes $7800 to do the work and replace the Freon. (R-22 that is now obsolete). We can have the whole unit replaced with an updated R410a refrigerant for less from our trusted A/C contractor.

Another example of the same process, we had to wait several days for them to replace a garbage disposal which had to be their brand which you have never heard of and only lasted 9 months. We decided to replace the broken unit with a known national brand which has now been running for 4 years. Final 2 and most significant examples. We had a water heater break and flood our garage and a separate but similar incident 2 yrs later with a kitchen faucet flooding our kitchen, AHS had a water mitigation company rush in and tear half our walls and cabinets out without us realizing we needed to get our homeowners insurance on board first to understand how much they covered). Then AHS had their plumbing co. come in and replace our hot water heater. They installed the hot water heater before our homeowners insurance could get out to access full restoration of the walls, insulation and cabinets.

Ended up, our homeowners did not cover enough to pay the water mitigation and the restoration of the walls. AHS only paid for the water heater. We paid $3000+ out of pocket for the restoration of the walls and cabinets. We found out AHS's fraudulent nature when we had the kitchen flood. Same rush in with their water mitigation company without our homeowners insurance involved (they said they would contact and work with our insurance).

When it came to restoring the kitchen, the AHS chosen contractors asked how much money we got from our homeowners insurance claim and that exact amount or maybe more is what they were going to charge to restore everything. In other words a backed in bid not an honest one. Our advice, never use AHS contractors, always expect there will be more than AHS covers for a full repair and if your home owners does not cover enough for full restoration, that is out of pocket. Save what you'd pay for your AHS premiums over the years and use that to have reasonable repairs done without AHS's crooked contractors.

I am not the person who writes reviews for every little thing that doesn't go my way, but this has been a frustrating experience and I feel I should share with all others who are trying to protect their interest, beginning of August 2020 I had a leak in my bathroom from the shower plumbing, this leak was flowing into my basement and spoiling my basement bathroom, this leak was behind the walls, so I called American Home Shield and I was told that JED PLUMBING will come out only after I provide an access to this plumbing area, I called a third party to help with making a big hole in the wall, After doing so the Jed Plumbing company sent technicians couple of times with the wrong parts.

They in middle of August promised me that they will order and return with the correct parts, no answer from them in weeks, in-spite me calling them several times they would promise and still not return my phone calls, I was Tired of calling them so I started trying to reach out to American Home shield for help, I have called them 3-4 times, every time I call I have to explain my grave situation and the answer is, "We will call Jed Plumbing and get back to you ASAP," But still no call back or fix to my situation till 09/15/2020, my last call was to them today and still no response, I think it is useless to have a warranty service like this and I would rather just go without having it anymore, I advise anyone thinking to use them to think twice before doing so.

Very disappointed. This is what happened: Aug 05th: the service request for our dishwasher was submitted. A contractor was assigned to the job. They said two parts were needed for the repair. One of them was ordered immediately and the Parts Department said they had to locate the second one. Aug 19th: after two weeks since we did not hear back from the contractor, I called the American Home Shield to follow up. The customer service rep told me the Parts Department did not find the second part and you should expect to hear from us within 24 hrs for a possible replacement. Aug 21st: since I still did not hear back from AHS I called them again, this time the customer service rep told me they were able to locate the part and it was ordered on Aug 17th!!! And the contractor should have it by Sep 1st. I asked twice to make sure we are on track and the person assured me on that matter.

Sep 2nd: I called the contractor to see if they received the part, but the answer was negative. I called AHS and asked them to tell me what was going on. This time, the customer service rep told me according to the manufacturer the part may not arrive until the end of October. I asked them, "Why did you lie to me about the Sep 1st arrival date?" They did not respond. I asked to talk to their supervisor. They said, "He would contact you," which he never did. I e-mailed them but they never replied. They expect me to wait at least 3 months for a repair!!! And that is not guaranteed either!!! This is very frustrating. We haven't had a dishwasher for more than a month and AHS does not respond. They keep playing a game with us.

Company is a scam. Not worth getting if you actually want a prompt resolution or any customer service.

When I purchased my home, I was provided a year long contract with American Home Shield. Needless to say, I did not renew. In June of 2020, I noticed water in my basement and determined there was a pipe leaking from my second floor (and only) bathroom somewhere in the wall of my dining room. I placed a service request through AHS that day. I was assigned C Mayes Plumbing to diagnose and repair the issue. The first technician that C Mayes Plumbing sent out placed 3 holes in my wall and one in my ceiling to diagnose the issue (a failing T fitting in my soil stack), stating “AHS will cover to send a drywall technician out for these repairs” and then determined the bathroom vanity would need to be removed (which AHS would not cover) to provide access. I agreed that I would cover the cost of removing and reinstalling the vanity.

    C. Mayes Plumbing apparently only partially reported back to AHS saying the vanity needed to be removed to provide access so AHS kicked it back to me and could tell C Mayes Plumbing to proceed until the vanity was removed. I arranged to have the vanity removed, but apparently “proceeding” was sending another tech out to diagnose the same problem again and not perform any repairs.

When the second tech showed, he asked if holes had been provided upstairs. I stated all that had occurred was that the vanity had been removed and that is all anyone from AHS or C Mayes Plumbing instructed me to do. He then stated AHS does like contractors placing holes in the walls. You could imagine my surprise considering the first tech didn’t hesitate to place holes in my wall and ceiling. Not only did C Mayes Plumbing take advantage of the situation by only partially reporting what the diagnosis was the first time so they could send another technician out to “diagnose” the problem again, AHS did not fully communicate with me (nor contact me at all) at all during the process so it was dragged out even longer. I had to sit on hold with AHS for upwards of an hour multiple times during this process in order to receive any information and often, it was in conflict with what another representative had told me previously.

After the second tech came out, I called AHS again in order to get the diagnosis and see if the work had been authorized. The woman on the phone stated I should have received an email from the authorization department (I had not) stating that they didn’t authorize the work. On two occasions, I requested hard copies of their denial be sent to my house so I have a record of it. I have never received any mail from AHS except to renew my contract. The woman I spoke to on the phone (Wednesday 7/15 at 5 pm) recognized how long this process had been going on and suggested that AHS provide a cash out (COD) for me to find another plumber to diagnose and repair the issue since they didn’t have another contractor in the area and that AHS just needed C Mayes Plumbing to sign off on not doing the work.

I had to call AHS back the next day and proceeded to wait on hold for an hour before speaking to a representative. This representative apparently had no indication that I stated I did not want to continue to work with C Mayes Plumbing and was offered the cash out option. I expressed that I felt like they were scamming the situation and would continue to take as much time/resources/money to fix the problem, which was quickly becoming an emergency.

Since this was my 6th time calling AHS and only receiving conflicting information, I requested to speak to a manager and, after waiting on hold for another hour, was told by Darel that they were going to find the recording of my conversation from the previous night and he would call me back with further details. I asked for a direct number to get in touch with him considering no one from AHS ever contacted me except when my contract first began in October of 2019. He stated that he did not have a direct line and that I could not contact him. Overall, I was told a total of five times that an individual I was speaking to would follow up and call me directly within an hour. Not one contacted me to follow up.

It is a massive game of telephone because I am unable to speak to anyone in the authorization department so I have to tell my issues to the representative who then relays it to the authorization department. Any time I pointed to a different portion of the contract stating that the work should be covered, the game of telephone continued with the authorization department hitting back with another part of the contract that, based on the contractor’s diagnosis (which provided false information about what was in the wall), stated they wouldn’t authorize the work. One of the reasons for denial that was provided referenced the ductwork section of the contract. However, there is zero ductwork within the wall that needs to be accessed to resolve the issue.

The website is not user friendly nor does it provide any information to the account holder other than the contract. It is strictly there for renewing your contract and placing service requests (both of which just put money in AHS’s pocket), and even then, there are no updates. The moment I placed my service request, it told me C Mayes Plumbing was assigned to it and I should hear from them shortly. Once I managed to schedule an appointment, the website stated that the service was scheduled and the moment the first tech left, the status switched to “Complete.” This status never changed and I never received updates. I plan on specifically telling any acquaintances, friends, coworkers, or family members to steer clear of American Home Shield.

I had a claim dealing with a plumbing issue where I had a leak in my guest bathroom downstairs, and then another claim was dealing with my air conditioning units. I found out that it was not properly working. I called American Home Shield's 800 customer service number. At that time, it was prompted that there was long wait times and suggested that I do it online. So I immediately hung up and did the process online. Within 24 hours, there was an acknowledgment of my service request and that it had been sent to dispatch and a representative would be calling me within the next 24 to 48 hours after I placed the call via email.

My interaction with both contractors was very positive. They came out and they were attentive to my needs. They identified the problem and immediately provided the resolutions that needed to be put in place to resolve my issue. The job was done at that point. I found out was that my AC unit had been struck by lightning and major components have been destroyed. After assessment, I was told that a claim could not be filed based on natural acts of God. So at that point, there was a recommendation that I had to have a unit replaced and I was open to that. The frustration was that they never got it resolved. As of today, I am almost 30 days and that still has not been resolved. So I'm not a happy camper and I'm looking at other sources to rectify that issue for me.

With the plumbing issue, the representative was able to stop the leak. But because it had been an ongoing leak, it got to that point that there had been ongoing damage. So I ended up having to file a claim with the insurance company, which was outside of American Home Shield. I'm still in the process trying to get that resolved. So it's been a pretty hectic summer since then.

I've been a customer for over 10-plus years but based on this experience, when it's time for renewal of my contract, I will not be renewing because I didn't get satisfaction. The process being displayed was not done in a timely manner. Even though the contractors came out, I was not satisfied that it was not done in a timely manner as far as the resolution. It took American Home Shield almost two weeks to respond that they were not gonna support the claim.

I was about to leave American Home Shield. I had a leak under my sink and the contractor said I have to take out what supports the pedestal so that they can check what's leaking. How would I take it off? I think it should be part of the service. I called Home Shield and they never addressed the issue. They said it's what's in the contract. I ended up going to somebody outside Home Shield and spent money to take care of it. The people I hired were able to fix it without taking that support of that pedestal. I appreciate American Home Shield but at certain times, I feel like their hands are tied on the gray areas.

Also, I felt like they should have refunded me that $100 I paid for because this was never fixed. I called the plumbing service at that time. They never responded back to me. I just got tired because it's so long just to get hold of Home Shield when you make a claim to follow up. But I was so happy with the service of Pennington Plumbing Service this time. They came out for my water heater that was leaking and they did great. Pennington responded really fast even though it was going towards the weekend. I was happy how they responded.

American Home Shield always seems to put people on the bottom of the repair list. For the washer, they had to come back because the tech had to look at the model I had even though I had told the rep who took the phone call what the model was so they can have the part on hand before they got here. It took another couple of days for them to come back with the part that they ordered. But overall, it's a good experience.

About a week and a half ago, I went into my son's bedroom and noticed that there was water on the floor. I looked up and I could tell that there was water leaking in the ceiling and there's an air conditioner unit in the attic above his bedroom. I went up and turned the unit off immediately. Water was pouring out of the air conditioner unit itself. I called American Home Shield. It took two days, but they sent the Airsmith Pro people out. The guy was very nice but he had no idea what he was doing. He took a little Gatorade bottle filled with water. He poured it down the drain of the pan. He said maybe the pan was clogged.

I told him I did go outside and there was water coming out of the condensate drain. That tells me the drain was not clogged. He said, "Maybe it was clogged 'cause sometimes due to ice buildup, the ice block unfreezes and all of a sudden, it causes this big thing of water." He also said there was one little piece of pipe that should be insulated. This unit has been installed seven years ago and I never had this problem before. I'm not a mechanical guy, but logically, why would all of a sudden this pipe be the problem?

He said he was gonna insulate the pipe and to call him back there was a problem. Sure enough, a day and a half later, same thing happened. I called on a Friday and the lady said they couldn't have somebody out till like the following Tuesday to follow up. The guy came back out and he said he didn't know what the problem was. He said, "Maybe it could be ‘cause the attic is hot and the air conditioner is cold, it's condensing." I said the unit has been here seven years. There was a unit there for 10 or 15 years prior to that. Lots of people have units in their attic. This is where it went off the rails. He said we should replace the pan, maybe the pan was leaking, it's a pinhole leak and we couldn't see it. He also said he was gonna call American Home Shield and we should replace the plenum box where all this water was. He was not really getting into the root of the problem.

He called American Home Shield and said because there was so much water, there could be mold. American Home Shield called us and told us they were gonna deny our whole claim. I said, "The hell you will. If you wanna send a mold person out here, I'm sort of interested. But he didn't fix the air conditioning problem." So they are sending out this week another person for a second opinion. They didn't give me any hard time about another person coming back out but we haven't gotten that person out here yet so it's not fixed. This is now going on for two weeks. Luckily, it's not the heat of the summer. But it's a lot of inconvenience and damage that I didn't expect them to pay for. I did drywall repair and paint. The first time, I'll say unavoidable because they can't fix what they don't know. But the second or third time it leaked, that should have never happened.

Right now, the unit's off. I Shop-Vac-ed it again yesterday and it's bone-dry. The only way I can be assured it's not gonna leak is if I keep it off. The guy is coming out 10:00 to 2:00 tomorrow. He wants it off 12 hours in advance which is tricky because that's what I did with the other guy. I turned it off so it wouldn't leak ad he said the problem was if it's off, he's not here long enough to replicate the problem.

I've used American Home Shield in the past for appliance and I've had no problem. They seem to be pretty good at appliance repair. But this is one of the first times I've had to use them for a system. They won't replace the drain pan 'cause this guy couldn't definitively say it was leaking. They also would not replace any of the ductwork. They only replace ductwork with normal wear and tear. My husband said, "Let's just sever ties with these people and get a normal company mechanic guy." I told him I've spent $60 a month for this very thing. If we bring another guy out that we think is competent, and he says the coil is bad, that's not a small fix.

We had a leak and we saw that there was spotting on the first floor of the building. We didn't know exactly where it was coming from. When I sent in the claim, I tried to do it online and it didn't pan out. So I ended up calling instead. American Home Shield said they could get somebody out there soon and they would follow up with me, confirming when they could come out. Later on, they Hardy Plumbing was coming out and they gave me their number. I called Hardy to find out when they get could get out there. Then they came out and my sister met the tech on site. It seemed to go well. He looked at it and he was able to figure out the problem within a short period of time. He took care of it no more than one or two hours. He fixed it.

We have the policy on a rental property and we don't live in the area. We're about two hours away from where it's at and it's hard for me to get quality people out there when something goes wrong. So with American Home Shield, we figured we will be able to kinda cut out that middleman of searching and looking for different people to take care of different jobs. Now we can just call them, and they'll go through their list of contractors. They have pretty good-quality contractors and Hardy was a good example. We signed up for the policy because it would make us managing the property easier, especially if something went wrong because it's an older house. Also, it was reasonably priced because they give you a standard charge per visit. You pay them and they fix the problem.

We had a problem with the fuse box and I called American Home Shield to get that taken care of. Submitting a claim was a lot easier than I thought it was gonna be. The contractor came exactly when they said they were gonna be here so it took less than an hour to get everything fixed. The repair put my mind at ease. He changed out the fuse box so that's not gonna be the problem ever again. I'm very glad that I had AHS. This was a blessing. With all the things that went wrong that day, that helped me out.

When we bought our first house, we had a lot of issues with it. Even though it was under warranty, they didn't repair it that good. One of my friends has the service of American Home Shield and she loved it and told me about it. So when we bought our second house, I looked AHS up and I have loved it ever since. I've had them for a while now. Every time they've come out, I haven't had any issues. Even I had one instance where we had a part got repaired and then a couple of weeks later, it went out again. We had no issues getting the person back out fixing it. We weren't charged so that was pretty good to me.

However, AHS should be vetting their companies they use a little bit better. We had one instance where we had a company that they use came out and they said it was something with my pipe, that it was a hole in the pipe. I was like, “My uncle’s a plumber. All you have to do is go in there and create another pipe.” But they told us that they had to go in and dig up the pipes, repair the whole pipe and they were gonna be $14,000.

American Home Shield told them no. I was like, "I'm not gonna do that. I'll find somebody else.” The people came back and they tried to get me to give them my homeowner's insurance information so that they could try to charge my homeowners insurance. That was ridiculous. I told them, “I'm not gonna give you the information.” They called me back a week later and was like, “We need the information so that we can go ahead and get it done.” I was like, “No, you're not gonna charge me $14,000.”

I called American Home Shield and they sent somebody else out. They went in and did exactly what my uncle had told me that they could do. It was like the previous company was really shady. That's the only company since I've had American Home Shield that I've ever had a problem with. All the other ones have been awesome. The contractor that came for our microwave claim recently was really good. The issue was that the microwave would turn on, but it wouldn't heat up the food. He said it was a melted switch. He just replaced the switch. It's been working fine, even better than before.

My AC was making a lot of noise and it wasn't cooling. The unit was freezing inside and it was dripping water. I was stunned when I made the call to American Home Shield about it. I put the claim in and I got a call immediately. That was good. A tech with Central Jersey Heating and Cooling came and he identified the problem immediately. Before he even got here, he told me to turn off the unit and just put the fan on. He would see what was going on when he gets here. When he got here, he saw that the unit was low on Freon and he fixed that immediately. He gave the unit a lot of Freon. He then put some dye in there to see if there was a leak in the line. Everything is working fine now. But I'm gonna have it checked this month.

But there is one thing that is a little crazy if you don't read the terms of the contract. It costs $100 for a tech to come here that I have to pay American Home Shield. They only give me a minimum amount of Freon, which is $10 and I have to pay for the rest of the thing. It cost me $400 to have the guy put the Freon in my AC. I was amazed that a very little portion was covered by American Home Shield. But then again, I didn't read everything so that was my fault. Otherwise, it's all good and I learned. Service-wise, the service was there and everything got fixed.

The contractor schedules the date and they come out, take care of the work, and leave. That's been consistent among all of my calls. The most recent was when the faucet handle needed a rubber stopper, washer type. It needed a little piece that goes inside and the guy from C Mayes Plumbing & Heating did it in about 20 minutes, no muss, no fuss. He did a great job. All of the jobs that I have had with AHS have been great. I recommend it to other people. All Appliance Service came out and they ordered a part. They came back once they got the part but there was still something that wasn't working properly. I was in complete contact with them. They just said to go ahead and put in a request to have them come back out so that they can order the other part to fix the other function, which I did. They handled it professionally and very timely. They did a great job and the dryer is working really well.

We’ve had American Home Shield in the past and this time, we had it just a couple of months. It seems like when we buy a new home, the home comes with a warranty for a while, and then it lapses and then we go back to it. So, we’ve had them off and on. I filed a claim years ago. I would rather talk to a human than a computer when I call them but I understand that's just the way of the world. We’ve only filed one claim this time. The AC was not cooling properly and my husband handled the claim. He didn’t complain so the contractor must have done a good job.

We've had it since we closed on the house on July 13th of this year, and we've used it twice. The second time I did a claim, I didn't have any problems. The first time, I had a little bit of problem with it. But once I figured it out, when I did it the second time for the second problem, then there was no problem.

The service with American Home Shield is good but it's so hard to get somebody on the line. Maybe everything is recorded and automated, and you don't have somebody whom we can reach and speak with sometimes.

My AC broke about a week back. I'm trying to get somebody to come and fix it but the person whom they nominated is about 45 miles from where I live. They have not come for one week and today is the day they're coming. I'm trying to speak to somebody in the customer service and see that I can get somebody local to come and fix it for me. That will be faster. I need somebody on the other side. Waiting for 15 minutes is okay but I tried twice and it said one hour and 10 minutes is the wait time, which was a bit too much.

I wasn't home and my husband called me and said that the pipe was leaking and that the basement floor was wet. I submitted the claim the next morning and Lenny's Plumbing came out and looked at it. It wasn't a leak. The issue was the way that the tub was set up. The spigot that came out of the wall where the water would come out was stuck off the wall and it had about three-eighths of an inch gap between the end of the spigot and where the wall was. The gap was big enough that you couldn't put silicone in it to plug it up.

The plumber was thinking was that my son might have been in there splashing around and was splashing water by this gap. Since there was a hole in the wall where the pipe was coming out, it was going behind the spigot and down the pipe, making it look like it was dripping. Unfortunately, the plumber couldn't really do anything because thee pipe wasn't technically leaking. So I had my own plumber come out and put a new head on it so it wouldn't leak anymore. It is all sealed up and caulked now.

The claims submission with American Home Shield was really easy and pretty clear. I tried to call in and the wait time was ridiculously long and I wasn't gonna wait. So I just figured out how to do it online. I didn't know who was gonna be coming to my house until I submitted the claim and paid the hundred dollars and hit “schedule”. Then the vendor called me within a couple of hours to let me know that it would be the next Monday when they could come out. I had to wait for a weekend which sucked. But we had a second shower, so it wasn't the end of the world.

I’m very happy with AHS. When we bought our first house, our agent got us a year's worth of service with AHS because that was her gift to all of the homeowners who bought homes from her. That was in ‘99. I like that AHS saves us money. When something happens or goes wrong, we pay $75. I only had one problem and that was when our dryer went out. They said something got caught in a motor. The motor’s old and they couldn’t tell if that was the reason that made the dryer go out. AHS didn’t pay that. Other than that, I have never had an issue with them.

When we had an AC issue, they sent out AC Rescue. Their guy was very friendly and helpful. He checked what the problem was and fixed it. He wasn’t there very long but he had his mask on and everything. It was great. The problem had to do with an old piece. Once he took it out and replaced it, the house was cool an hour or two later. The AC is still blowing cold but I’ve meaning to call AHS this week because water’s running out of the little runoff where the water comes out of if the pan’s getting high.

The guy said a lot of the air conditioning companies shut down so we had to wait until all of that has opened up. It took about five days for the contractor to come out but when they did, they fixed everything on the same day. Then, the washing machine wasn’t draining and the tech from Care Appliance Repair checked it. The drainage pump had to be replaced and he said it would take about seven days and it took about that. AHS sent Premier Appliance Repair out and the tech from there said that the issue was with the main circuit board which would have to be ordered. He said that it would take two to three weeks because of COVID issues. Still he explained everything and he was very good. When he came back, he explained what he had to do. He ran our washing machine through test cycles because his company doesn't want to come back and have to fix something twice He said that they would rather the consumer be happy.

Other people should not buy an extended warranty through stores like Best Buy. They should just let their warranty run out and have American Home Shield take over. Their warranty is like a golden policy for my house. Everything is covered. This is great to have for peace of mind especially these days 'cause there are so many electronic items in one's house. I would recommend AHS to anybody who asks. If they say they're gonna have warranty issues, I would say that I've had AHS and I've had no problems with them at all.

The air conditioner needed Freon gas to make it cool. The technician indicated that they were not gonna cover more than 10 pounds of Freon gas and that he needed to be paid the difference. So, I called American Home Shield and they confirmed that they would only pay for 10 pounds, which was almost nothing. I wasn't too happy with that. I ended up writing a check for $500 to make the difference so the guy could do the work. So for those who cannot afford to pay that amount, they won’t have an air conditioner and it's not fair. AHS doesn't tell you in advance that they only cover 10 pounds of Freon gas. The technician did the best he could. It was just that there was really a regulation that AHS needed to change so that it should be advantageous to both the customer and themself.

AHS keeps too much profit by not doing what they're supposed to do. Most of the time, homeowners don't recharge their air conditioners. They only do it once in five years. So, if AHS is only doing 10 pounds, they're not doing anything. Then within five years, we'll be paying them 2,500 because they charge a little over 500 a year. But they only pay less than $100 for Freon gas. Then our house is great and nothing is wrong with it. So they will pay out nothing but they’re taking a lot of money. That’s the thing that I feel like is a fraud. They shouldn't be doing that. They should actually support the homeowner. They went in to get it was because they needed help. So for AHS not to do that is not fair to the customer.

I had American Home Shield for a property in Covina. I still have it but it’s rental property now. When I had them, they would claim that they were sending a plumber and then they would just find somebody. They'd have somebody who was not even a plumber to show up with his snake. They'd go to Home Depot and buy a small snake, and they'd tell me that they wanted to do my sewer line. The guy told me the game that they just called him and he wasn’t the same plumber so he went to Home Depot to buy the snake.

Eventually, I got frustrated. I told the guy that he couldn't do the work and sent him out. Then I had to call somebody else and pay that person out of pocket to snake the clean-out at that property. So when we move into this new house in Rancho, the previous owner selected American Home Shield. AHS was asking for 600 and something to cover the AC and the whole house. But the other companies were charging like 400 or 300 and something. That was the reason why I stopped using them.

American Home Shield's system is they take your money, but they don’t want to do the work. They aggressively make you buy their contracts and they really pursue you to buy. When they lock you in into your credit card, they just want to be charging you. They don't care about delivering the product. If you have something for them to come out and do, they'll find a way to get out of it. They would find every means not to make sure they won’t do the work and that’s not good. That's terrible and it’s not honest.

We had a couple of issues. There were some leaking pipes. Something that was leaking that was coming downstairs into our first-floor bathroom. We could see the stains on the ceiling. The first time the contractors came and fixed that, but then I also told them that the actual faucets were leaking too. They came back and they fixed the faucets and replaced them.

I had some difficulty with a dishwasher that we had submitted a claim for. Because it took long. A lot of times when I called AHS, I was on hold. A couple of times I was on hold for more than two hours before I got in touch with anybody. So that was the biggest issue that I've had. We finally got a new dishwasher. There was an issue. It was supposed to be delivered one day and then, for some reason, it got canceled. I said, "I never canceled it. I was expecting it and then it never came." But we have it now, it was installed. That's been taken care of. It just took a couple of months before we got our new dishwasher. I would definitely recommend AHS, but I would ask them to try to get so they could have a live representative sooner than having to wait for two and a half hours before talking to somebody.

When the guy came out the first time, he said that it was a couple of wires on the outside system with the fan that melted. He cut those, rewired them, flipped the breaker, and then it worked. That only lasted a week and then, it felt like the unit was not maintaining the temperature, so we called again a second time. A nice guy then came out and he checked everything. We went outside and we realized the fan wasn't turning. He ordered a new fan, came that Monday, and put it in. Everything has been working fine for the last two weeks, but we're having issues again. The fans on the system are pulling air, but it's not cooling the air. I'm assuming it's something inside the house unit and that's where we're at right now. They're supposed to come out today and take a look at it.

I do pest control for a living, so it's a big difference between what goes on in the office and what happens in the field. All American Home Shield could do was send the people out, and then hope that the contractors that they have come out do their end of it. I understand that and there are all kind of technicians. It is the luck of the draw of what kind of technician you get out considering what kind of issue you're having. Some are very detail-oriented and some are not. I don't wanna put everything on Home Shield if a technician may be occupied with something else. That's not on them. It's also really hard to make Home Shield responsible for that now, unless, they continue to use a company that gets a lot of substandard ratings.

When we've had issues with our AC in the past, it's only been one thing a summer and it's fine. It got fixed and it got handled. On the basis of that, things worked out well and we're glad we have the warranty. With this particular issue though, because this is the third time this summer, I'm anxious to see what will happen and what will be suggested. My wife also had to wait on hold for a long amount of time the second time we called, but then, that's not something that we could complain about. When I called this Saturday evening at 7:30, I figured I'd be on hold for a while, so I had the phone on speaker. I was watching TV and then I got through and talked to somebody in two minutes. I was on the phone for five minutes total.

I'm selling the house. The other person's inspector said that the AC was not working properly. He said that the compressor mount was cracked and there were a couple of things like that. I needed to get it fixed. So I called American Home Shield and their tech came out on time. He was on point and he knew exactly what he was doing. He was really nice and professional. He said that the compressor was mounted to concrete and not to a plate on the side. He went through everything that the guy did or said and he showed it to me. He wrote his own work order for it and worked out perfectly. He did wonderfully and everything was great.

There was nothing wrong with the AC before. I didn't have any cooling or heating issues with it. But there were some screws missing from the fan cover which was causing it to rattle a little bit and one of the pipe didn't have foam covering on it. So he put those two on it to make sure everything was good. While he was there, he took care of everything that he was supposed to and it worked just as it did before. But it's quieter. I've always had great experiences with American Home Shield. I've used them three times since I've had you in the last three years and I've never had any issues with anything. Everybody has always been great.

And then within three hours, the tech was here on site. The tech replaced the coil outside, which had gotten something in it. It was a simple fix. I was very pleased with how quick Home Shield responded and that the issue was resolved within 12 hours of me notifying them. I hope that they would always work like that.

So, she called someone else, which was those Certified Comfort people, and they came out. They fixed the problem. The tech said it was the compressor. It wasn't kicking on when it was supposed to. You need to know what is covered and not because there are a lot of fine details and what is not and what is covered. It's just the fine detail you have to read to make sure that all things are covered as you expected them. For example, my garage is covered, but there are certain parts and stuff in the garage that are not. Just because it says the garage is covered doesn't mean that every anything that happens to the garage, the whole garage would be covered. It depends on what warranties are covering.

We had two recent issues, and American Home Shield did a really poor service on one of them. We were without a dishwasher for over a month even though they charged us monthly for the premium, and then they charged us additionally for somebody to come out. As soon as they told somebody to schedule an appointment, they automatically debited our credit card for $100, but the person claimed that they weren't available to come out. It was about 10 days before the person even came out here. They said they had to wait for the parts too. There was a motor on the dishwasher that was out, and then they were replacing some of the wheels that were broken on the racks. The part on the motor came in, but the contractor wouldn't come out to put it in because the wheels for the racks were on backorder, and it took three weeks.

Often, American Home Shield sends out the cheapest people available. We've always been able to get things fixed but it’s not very timely and it seems like we're accommodating their schedule, not ours. Also, all we can do is do the claim by phone and request a service. We can't ever call to talk to anybody and describe what's on or even find out, if indeed, it's covered in our policy. We have had instances where we were charged for somebody to come out here and then they come out and say, “Oh, we don't fix that. It's not covered under your policy,” but yet we were still charged the deductible. That all results because there's no one available to talk to with American Home Shield. We tried to call and talk to them, and we have often been on hold for over an hour and we just give up.

We had a ceiling fan that had to be replaced and American Home Shield replaced it. At the same time, I had another ceiling fan in another room that the contractor looked at and they tried fixing it. They said that if it gets bad and if the sound comes back, they would have to replace that. With this second fan, the claim is still pending and it's a matter of trying to get the American Home Shield to approve the contractor to order a replacement for it.

As far as dealing with American Home Shield's rep, that seemed to be okay. I sensed that American Home Shield would rather get it taken care of. But because of the COVID, I was on hold for how many hours trying to get ahold of them. Finally I dialed another number and they said they would call me back. Evidently, the second number is the one to call because then they would allow you not to be on hold. A guy named John called me back and he was trying to get ahold of the contractor while I was with him. But the contractor wasn't available so I was on hold with him for half an hour. He then said, "You know what? I'm not gonna keep you on hold anymore. I'll call you back when we get it done." All this was done very politely and cordially so everything was fine. But it was an experience of patience.

I've been with a few home warranties and they have probably been my best experience to date. Filing a claim is really easy to do. You can do it via the web.

One of the biggest things that stands out is when the contractors come to the house, they don't sit there and go, "Yeah, this is through so and so. We never get paid." They gripe about the other ones. This one, they're just, "Yup, American Home Shield." American Home Shield takes care of the contractors along with the people that have the home warranty. The folks that show up are able to identify the problem and on what parts need to be ordered. It's fixed the same day. Some parts are ordered and they're back in a day or two. Sometimes, it takes a little longer for the parts to come in and that might take about a week.

It's been great with American Home Shield so far. They get right with us and they get someone out. We used them for the AC unit and we had a good idea as to what was going wrong but the company that came out didn't wanna go look at what we knew was going wrong. I understand COVID stuff and they didn't wanna go in the house. But they gotta go in the attic to drain the line and clear it out so it'll drain properly. I had to argue with them to get them to go up there. But they said the service ticket didn't say to do that so I would have to call and get a new ticket. It turned out that's not necessarily the case. If there's an ongoing issue, they can continue it through the ticket that's already open.

The Cabot Mechanical folks came out and they have been great. They listened to what we know. Also, they're very knowledgeable and they took the time to explain what was going on. Their first visit out, we knew that some of the drain lines in the AC were clogged, two water sensors were no longer good. They fixed those and addressed the issues they saw with drainage. They got the drain pipes all fixed and everything appeared to be running fine. But with as much moisture, they saw things and they were a little concerned.

This last visit, the thing was not blowing right and there was a lot of excess moisture all over everything that they had hoped to go away once the drainage was fixed. But it didn't. It was getting just as bad, if not worse. The next time they came out, they did full diagnostics. The coolant was a little bit low and they explained that. They also found there was a gap in the return unit that was allowing attic air to get sucked in, which was causing a lot of condensation to occur. They addressed those issues.

Then the guy asked if where some of the insulation was way inside the unit had been freezing up but I had no idea. A few days after this last call, the AC was not working properly and the house was getting warmer and warmer. Air was blowing but it wasn't blowing very hard. I went up and looked just like the tech showed me to and sure enough, the coil had frozen up. I called for them to come back out and address whatever’s causing that.

Our AC unit wasn't coming on correctly when it was on "auto" or even when it was on "on". We did a claim online using the American Home Shield website and it was very easy to use. I got a confirmed visit within the amount of time that was promised. The repair person from Superior HVAC Austin came out and was on site for just probably 5 to 10 minutes maximum. He gave instructions that if we were having that problem, we need to put a little bit of Clorox into this tube and kinda blow in it. The solution didn't seem all that reasonable to me. But I said we'd give it a try. That worked for a day or two, but we're getting the same problem. So now, every two or three days the system goes off, we have to back up the car, pull down the attic ladder, climb up, and do that, which isn't a solution.

There had been a couple of previous calls earlier this year that I ended up canceling because there were more urgent issues. For example, one was water wasn't going down any of my drains at all. For me, that was an emergency. We couldn't flush toilets, couldn't use the sink, and we were gonna get a visit two or three days later. Unfortunately, it happened on a Saturday morning. American Home Shield said that the earliest they could get somebody is Monday or Tuesday. I canceled that call. On my own, I went to Yelp and looked up recommended plumbing services and had somebody out there later that morning to fix the problem. I renewed the service with American Home Shield because I think it's an important insurance coverage to have. Hopefully, it will go better in the future.

I have two service orders pending (one for 5 weeks another one for 9 weeks) that AHS wouldn't get fixed. I have two air-conditioning units that are broken and need fixing. The first work order was issued on July 1st and the second one on July 30th. The first unit was installed by an American Home Shield (AHS) contractor, DMC Di Dolce Mechanical, in 2018, who had charged me $3,847 for the installation despite of having the American Home Shield Warranty. The job was done poorly, which was causing the drain pipe to fill up and trip up the A/C unit causing it to shutdown. This was confirmed by two separate contractors that American Home sent to verify (Liberty Heating and Airconditioning and L&F HVAC).

After dozens of calls over the 10 week period I made to the American Home (in coordination with their parts department and the contractor relations department), they kept on reassuring me that they will get it fixed, first by DMC Di Dolce, and then by L&F HVAC (after DMC refused to even answer their calls). They kept on offering me a meager cashout of $1,540, which makes me responsible for the repair! If that is all they can do, then why am I paying nearly a $1,000 in premiums every year for the past 5 years and then pay $106 every time a contractor comes to check out what's wrong with the insured item!

The second unit had an issue with the compressor (July 30th), and I authorized the repair by agreeing to pay $495 out of my pocket (August 7th) while AHS would send a new compressor to L&F for installation. AHS claims that the compressor was sent to L&F on August 14th. However, today is September 9th and L&F still maintains that they haven't received the compressor!

Dealing with AHS is frustrating, as every customer service rep sympathizes with me and promises to follow up but they really don't! I have asked to speak to their supervisor for at least two dozen times but no one calls me back. AHS is poor at running their business and collect thousands of dollars in premiums and then are not able to service their obligations when the claim is made! I have had a similar experience in 2018 when my microwave and the condenser coil had to replaced. It took them months! I would not do business with this company again.

I would put 0 stars if I could. I just bought a house and found out my AC unit is too small to completely cool down the house. I've been using a window unit since I moved in a few weeks ago. I paid $75 for a service fee and when someone came out they said since it technically isn't broken, they won't do anything. The tech they sent, plus one I used before, both said we needed a 3 ton unit and the 2.5 was too small for the house.

I've called AHS multiple times and get different answers each time. The last time I spoke with them, they said they couldn't make the unit bigger due to restrictions on my warranty but they could upgrade. To which my response was, "Fine, at least do that." I called them back today for an update and now they say they can't even do that. I asked to speak to a manager and she continued to say that wasn't covered. Living in Texas, summers get to 115 degrees out here so I need a working AC unit for my house. This is ridiculous. Why have a warranty company if they won't fix something that isn't working properly? Safe to say, won't be using them again.

If do they use the lowest quality parts available. To cancel policy you have to go through long hold times followed by a hard sell to keep policy, and then runaround to cancelation dept. that doesn't return calls.

The mechanism in the toilet was running because you couldn’t turn the water off. We tried to fix it but the water was constantly running. That the actual mechanism inside wasn't filling the toilet up. So it was a half-full tank in there and we couldn’t get that little knob to unturn. Then the City was contacting me ‘cause my water was too high. It became a big hassle and it would have to be fixed from the wall up into the toilet and inside the toilet tank. I tried to file the claim online but I ended up calling and the American Home Shield rep got my information.

When Pruitt's Plumbing called to set up the appointment, I gave them a heads up on what was going on. So they had everything on the truck when they came. They were coming from somewhere that was an hour away so I wanted to make sure that they had the information. It took a few days for the contractor to come out. Luckily, it wasn’t anything major. The plumber was nice and he knew what he was doing. He replaced everything from the wall up and the big mechanism thing in the tank. He was only there for like an hour. He was amazing.

And then, they came out and fixed everything, and that was it. Both contractors worked very nicely and they did what they were supposed to do. They had to order a part for the washer and it hasn't come in. But somebody from Home Shield called me and let me know that it would be a lot longer than what they had intended so it's not going to be fixed until October. That's fine.

We realized our AC was broken at 10 o'clock at night when we got home. The technician came 7:30 first thing in the morning. It was super quick. He looked at whatever he had to do inside, and then everything else, worked outside in the garage. My husband went out there with him and he explained to my husband every step of the way and everything he was doing and checking.

He did it just to make sure that he doesn't forget anything or that he has his steps in order. He also explained what was wrong with it. We had the same issue literally like a year ago from the date that we called them and he told us why it messed up again, and just how to prevent that from happening again. He was so great. It was probably the easiest call we've ever had. Since then, we've had a lot of colder days so the AC hasn't been running as much but definitely fixed it 'cause it was 80 degrees in here when we got home that night. So it's been working perfectly since then.

When we bought the house, American Home Shield was already paid for the year. Once it ended, they contacted us a few times to renew and we were hesitant. Then my dad talked us into it. I'm really glad we did it. I'm so thankful with the service as a whole. It's the easiest thing that I've ever used. When buying a house, anything associated with something breaking is really scary. But it just takes all the stress and the hassle off of having to pick someone and go through Google and look at all the reviews. American Home Shield sends out a great person every single time and there's never any issues, and it's always timely.

But the customer service of the visit was fine. They'd been out before. It was great then and it was great this time. The guy came out and assessed the issue. He said, "This is what needs to be fixed. I will refer this to AHS. They'll let me know whether to fix it or if they're gonna just replace it. We'll be in touch." It was pretty straightforward. They were timely, professional and friendly. I had issues though with a particular one or two claims. I filed 2 claims with American Home Shield - one was for a water heater and the other one was for the tub. I received a phone call saying that they received the order and that someone would come out and take a look at everything and determine how to proceed. I was also given a text on the day of the schedule that the contractor would be coming out. Within an hour of the person coming, he sent me a phone call and said they would be there around the specified time and they were there. They looked at the tub, said that there was some type of leak and that they could not repair it. For the water heater, there was a corroded piece that was presenting a leak. They replaced that fitting and did a great job with that. They were very friendly, customer service oriented and knowledgeable concerning the plumbing issue that we had. That was really good.

Everything has been fine but unfortunately for the tub, I was told that the claim was denied because it was the tub and not the pumps and jets. Had they investigated a little further, they would’ve realized that it was the jets that was the issue. I've called in to American Home Shield and could not get beyond the customer service person. I was also charged twice - one by HSA warranty and the other one by American Home Shield for the exact same amount within 45 minutes of each other for my card.

The issue still hasn't been resolved and I had no interaction with anyone concerning letting me get beyond the customer service person. They said, “We don't see where we charged you twice.” After four calls, I would think they would say, “Let me try to look further into this.” But she was adamant about that. I asked to speak to someone in Accounting and she shared with me that there's no accounting department but she said, "Fax to me proof that you were charged twice and send it to our accounting department.” American Home Shield was really good as far as their service and someone coming out. They were really informative. But getting beyond that initial call was not a good experience at all. American Home Shield has great reviews from other family members who’ve been with them but this was our first experience with them.

Pro-Tec came and fixed an icemaker. And then, my refrigerator wasn't cooling. They said it was some sort of a part that went missing. After a two-week time span, the part came in. Then they came in and refixed it. They were very pleasant. It's just when I called Home Shield and said, "Hey, my refrigerator has been down and it has been X amount of time. And I have lost food. I've had to buy food like three or four different times. And the refrigerator is not fixed," they said that in my warranty, they won't have somebody come and fix it and replace the food that I lost.

I've only had one issue with one technician. But the problem was that they didn't repair or fix whatever needed to get fixed. It was like when you go to the doctor and you're feeling horrible, and all of a sudden when you get there, they can't find what's wrong because that thing is not happening anymore. So, it wasn't anything on the technician's part. The thing that I had an issue with is the length of time. In order to have another technician come back out or have them come back out, it must have happened within 90 days' time, and it wasn't. Home Shield should change that crazy policy. If you know my refrigerator has been out for an X amount of time, common sense will let you know that you need to replace the food, and it shouldn't be the consumer's fault. Other than that, the process is simple. You pay your fee and then that's about the sum of it.

The first set of guys who came out for the microwave were good. American Home Shield went through Sears. The second guy who came out for the fridge did a thorough job for an hour so. As he was walking out, he realized that the part of the unit that was bad wasn't covered. My wife called AHS and asked why we had to pay the $75. They said that we owe them upfront. He said that we called them and that was how it works. The people that came out for the most part knew what they were doing but it was just difficult to work with AHS. Without a doubt, the contractors were pleasant.

My wife always sets the claim and I always hear that it's not the easiest thing to do. We are told to try or do a thing before we have them come out. And my wife would say that it’s what I'm paying them for. To come out and fix something. AHS is adequate at best. I'm more old school. If it breaks, I throw it out and buy a new one. I wouldn't get AHS again. I wouldn't spend the money on it because on all the claims we had, the only thing they got fixed was a microwave. It lasted four days and we had to buy a new one anyway.

Submitting claims to American Home Shield has been easy. Plumbers Inc., one of their contractors, came recently and the tech took care of my problem. Before this claim though, I had a plumber come to do some ductwork and he said that AHS didn't cover it. He put some tape on my duct, charged me $200 and I still have the same problem. So, I was really pissed off as I thought he took me to the cleaners.

I had other people come out and they cleaned my attic and put a new duct in. I paid a lot of money for that duct replacement. Last week, I found out that AHS covers ductwork and that the guy who did my ductwork initially didn't really do jobs like that. If I need ductwork, I'll call AHS and tell them not to let that initial contractor come out.

Despite this issue, Home Shield has been excellent and their coverage is something I'd recommend for every homeowner. It has helped me tremendously. American Home Shield is excellent. When we submit a claim, we just call AHS up and then they're very timely in calling us. However, sometimes the service people aren't so good. Now, I've learned who's good and who isn't. I check the reviews right away based on who they're gonna send out. If the vendors are terrible, then I'll call and request someone else. But the air conditioning problem recently was handled very well.

A little bit of a problem this year, because of COVID-19, I've had to be on hold for an hour trying to talk to a real person. We had another problem with our oven, where the bottom half of the oven had a problem that the vendors couldn't fix. It was just a light issue and the part was not replaceable. AHS was going to give us a certain amount of money to replace the oven, but it was only really half of what it was worth. I paid for another person with American Home Shield to come out to just disconnect the light because the oven still works just fine, rather than us have to pay out of pocket, more money to just get the whole thing replaced.

There had been a couple of instances, we had a hot water heater problem and the vendor took five weeks to fix it, and then would charge us more. On the reviews, when I looked at this company, a lot of people had the same experience with them. The next time something happened, I definitely requested not to have that certain company come out.

But overall, we've been very happy with AHS. So far, so good. We've owned the house 20 years so we've had numerous things happen over the years, and I've never really had a bad issue. They replaced my washing machine recently completely when that went out. The vendors tried to fix it for weeks, but when they couldn't, AHS replaced it. My only complaint would be that sometimes, it drags on a few weeks before they're able to determine whether they can really fix it or not.

I know that certain things that are large-price items, like a hot water heater, or an air conditioning unit, or ovens, AHS is well worth it to have because those can cost thousands to replace on your own, and AHS replaces them. So for us, it's been good. We bought an older home. Over time, there had been certain large items that have had to be replaced and they had been covered.

My air conditioning system went out and it wouldn't work. At first, the air conditioning people came out and they looked at the problem. They diagnosed the problem as an electrical problem that was causing the air conditioner not to work properly. So the electrician then was authorized and diagnosed the problem. It appeared that there was another problem. Another electrical goes in the same line with the box up in the furnace room. So he traced it down, found it and fixed it. He did an awesome job. He did it in one day. It's all working fine now.

I'm very satisfied with the claims process. It was easy to do. The only difficulty I had was the length of time from once I reported the problem and the air conditioning people could come out. It took them about five days and with 100 degrees temperature, that was not good. But I appreciated the fact that they probably were inundated with calls because of the weather. Once they got here, it was all fine.

He also gave me good notification on when he was gonna be out there and he showed up on time. He was great and friendly. The next day, it wouldn't turn off. Then some other stuff happened and it wouldn't turn back on afterwards. I called American Home Shield and had the contractor redo it. He came back out on the same ticket. He looked at it and figured out what the issue was. He didn't have the parts to fix it permanently right then and there but he was able to rig it to where it would work for a few days until he got the part in. A few days later, he got the part in. He brought it out, put it in, and it's been working great since.

We've had American Home Shield on the house that we are in now for about two months. But we've owned three other houses and we've had it on all of them. The only thing negative is we had to wait. Both times, it was about a three-day wait. We put a window unit in the bedroom to keep the bedroom cool, but if we wouldn't have had that the house would have been miserable because it was so hot. But if we would have told them it was an emergency, they may have done that. We are mid to end of summer and I'm sure they are extremely busy. But even that, the first time we waited, it was on a Friday and it was Monday when they got out there so it wasn't a big issue.

My house has three air conditioning units. It's hot here in Texas and the AC units need to be replaced regularly. When that happens, the out-of-pocket for it is about five grand if you don't have a home warranty. With the home warranty, it is not free. But it is somewhere between a quarter to a third of the cost. Last time, it was 800. So that makes American Home Shield worth it for me.

When you call in, whoever you're talking to is clearly a call center that's out of the country. But they're very polite and well-trained. You could tell they're going through some steps that they're supposed to be going through, and they always do a good job of that. Someone from the company Comfort Air Control came and he was very good. He also had a mask on. The issue was with the motor in the AC. He needed to replace a fan type thing fortunately, the part was in his truck. He did the job, which took 45 minutes, then left.

A friend of mine also has American Home Shield and she's never used it. But one day, her hot water heater broke. She called the warranty company and three days later, a contractor still didn't come out. I was a little concerned because my husband has already issues and we can't be without the air conditioner at that time. It was like 90 degrees. But we didn't have a problem. In fact, they wanted to come out the day we called but my husband and I weren't gonna be here. That was on a Friday. They came out Monday morning.

I was not getting any cooling in a couple of the rooms, on one whole side of the house, and then in one whole room completely. The Argo techs came out, checked it out, pulled the filter off, looked it over, climbed up in the attic, look at all the ducts and told me one or two of the ducts had a kink in it. They straightened them out and fixed it up pretty good.

The first time I used Home Shield was somewhere around November or December. The guy came and looked at the dishwasher because there was a water leak. I thought it was the dishwasher. He looked it over and ended up finding out that the leak was in the wall. They said they could fix it but I would have to create access to the leaky pipe. That was something new I learned about. And then I found out that none of my appliances were covered. My leak was in the wall so I had to have my home insurance come out and take care of it. I wouldn't have had any idea what parts of the wall to bust out to access the leak. But I got charged $75 when the tech came out and told me that. A little strange, but that's business. I'm gonna re-sign with them next month and extend my coverage. When I rewrite my new contract next month, I have to make sure that I get all my certain appliances added in there.

I called Home Shield for the claim and then they called me back and said that the tech would be there the next two days. It was really quick. The tech came in and cleaned up the washer. He also cleaned up the other bathroom. He rinsed it all. He was very good and very respectful. He had a mask on, but then he took it off. He was telling me about the big bathroom, the faucet and the drain. He told me those don’t drain anymore on the pipe. He best run something down through there. Then he had booties on his shoes. He put the mask back on and he also had gloves.

It's very beneficial to have Home Shield. There was only one time that I had to call Drexler Plumbing because I kept calling Home Shield but they wouldn’t answer the phone. When the rep answered the phone, she said they were having problems with the computer. But Drexler came and took care of whatever it was and left. Home Shield apologized and that was it. Their claims process is very good. I just call them and tell them about the issue. If the rep can't give me an answer right then, she'll call me back a few minutes later to let me know what's going on.

We had a problem with the dishwasher and American Home Shield initially had us with Lowe's and for whatever reason, Lowe's couldn't do it for weeks. So, I did contact American Home Shield and had them release us from Lowe's, so we could get another vendor. They did. Miller Appliance Repair came out in probably half the time and was able to fix it. I really liked them. They really did the best job of all the vendors I've used so far.

We also had a washer issue and somebody came out and replaced the whole inside of it and said it was brand new. Inside of a week, it broke again. So rather than go through the whole process because that took two and a half weeks to get somebody out here, and somebody in the neighborhood was giving away a free one, so I just got that and got rid of the one that I just spent money to get fixed because I didn't wanna wait another three weeks for him to come out and fix it again.

I've had good experiences with American Home Shield. It's nice that you can just go online and immediately get something booked. The only issue is sometimes it's a pretty long lead time until you get someone. I've been in the game for a while. I think if you're a paying customer and not on an insurance plan, you would probably get more preferential treatment. I imagine that these vendors know that they're only getting so much for this call because I'm on an insurance plan and so I don't get top priority. So sometimes I'm pushed out. That's the biggest drawback from my perspective.

The house was being sold and the inspector said that the AC needed some service and some Freon 'cause he was getting a low reading. So we had a maintenance call for it. I had a sump pump issue and the way that it was handled was very terrible. We had rain coming down and the sump pump stopped. I wanted to see if I could get somebody, which was very difficult. They told me to call back within three hours which meant that I would've been dumping the water for three hours. So I requested to see if I could get someone myself. I was able to call someone and just paid the fee myself just to have the sump pump fixed. That was one of the things that I wasn't so pleased about. Them saying that they would call me back two to three hours was a poor relationship on the service that I thought I had. If there was an emergency call, AHS should be more involved especially if the situation seemed to be more of a property damage.

There was an issue with the water pan underneath the air conditioner up in the attic. Obviously, there was a blockage in the condensation drainpipe and I couldn't find it so I had to use Home Shield to send somebody. They sent Thermal Tech Heating and the tech said the same thing. He went downstairs and found the drain pipe. It’s a two-story house so the drainpipe is down on the main level. Then he just cut it back and then there was mud there. Everything is doing fine now. The guy was on time. He did a good job and he was quick about it too.

I've had American Home Shield for three years. The first time I used them was when the drain line right at the elbow inside the house and my basement to the septic tank was broken. It was leaking there. But they went through my foundation wall to outside my house. The technician told me that they had to cut it outside the house but Home Shield wouldn't pay for it. So I went back and forth with them for a long time. I even talked to the people at Home Shield. I still think it's an error. I have a bad taste in my mouth about it, but life goes on.

I'm in my 70s so I can no longer get on a ladder or do any of that stuff so I have to have somebody do it. American Home Shield makes it easy for me. I rather go through an entity that I know of that can send the people out right away. I feel relatively comfortable now that it's gonna get the job done. I had that one terrible episode with them. But I thought I'd try them a couple more times before I got rid of them and they came back and sent me other people that had done decent jobs.

Seth was the technician and he was very polite and knew what he was doing. He showed me what the problem was and had it fixed in five minutes. It was a great overall experience. I've recommended Home Shield to a lot of my friends and some of them went with them but others said they didn't wanna pay every month if nothing's wrong. I tell them that in the long run, it pays off. If something does go wrong in your home, all you have to pay is the $75 and they will fix it and if they can't fix it, they will replace it. I've never had a problem with them and I'm real thankful for them.

Our Maytag washer of 20 years flooded all the rooms and floors adjacent to the laundry closet. We paid the $75 and AHS sent a Countrywide ProServ tech out quickly to help with the original mitigation strategy and then our insurance company kicked in. He said that the level switch failed. It's non-replaceable and the manufacturer doesn't make it anymore. It's been 20 years or so and the part is no longer available anywhere. That was on a Friday and he put his report in to AHS that time.

By Saturday, I called AHS and asked what's going on. We've got new flooring to bring in and we couldn't use the washer until all this gets done. I don't wanna force my poor wife to drive miles away and haul everything for laundromats which she hasn't done in years. The time is also very inconvenient. I was told by one of the representatives that they were still doing a part search. I asked why they would do that. The washer is too old and the manufacturer doesn't make the parts. I was not happy. I told them they should be putting notes in my account because this is just ridiculous. I just wanted to replace the washer.

I called every day and waited up to two hours till I got a representative. One day they said they were looking for the parts and I told them there were none. They said they needed five days to search for the part. I told them that they wouldn't need those days and that they could just check it with the internet in less than an hour. The next day, they said they were moving to authorization for the appliance replacement. Then they kept saying that I'd get an email and that someone would call me. Well, no one called, no one emailed. I finally gave up after a week. We had plans to go on a vacation so we went. I even called while I was there, except again, it would say that the calls were one to two hours wait. When the AHS service tell me their name is Jim and Rachel, they're not. I can barely understand some of those folks 'cause I think they farm out that service and as a customer, they really don't care about me.

A full week went by and Thursday, while we were on vacation, I got a call asking about our washer type. I told them that they knew everything about it, the Maytag heavy duty, high capacity, the model number. They've had that information for weeks. They said they need to know the inside measurements of the washer drum. I called my daughter who's house sitting for us. She ran around with tape measure. I feedback all of that.

Days later, again, which was on a Wednesday and we had an eight-hour drive that day, I told my wife to let the phone sit and call AHS. Sure enough, over two hours of wait, someone answered the call. The person said that they had everything they needed for our replacement options and sent us a link, which my wife finally ordered this morning after we got back and unpacked and settled. We got whatever they recommended, almost exact replacement for no cost. It'll be delivered in five to seven days. That's how long it's taking to replace a couple of hundred dollars washer. Because of that, my wife had to make several trips to laundromats and all the gas and time and nobody cared.

I'm so disappointed. This is just a stupid washer who has taken all this rigmarole and time. This whole thing, in my opinion, is poor timing and response on the part of American Home Shield. This is the one experience where we have to actually replace something and it's been awful. I would be mortified if we have an air conditioner fail on our home in the summer in Arizona. Who knows how long we would be out without it in our home. There's no way I would ever recommend AHS again or would I use them again in the year. I'll probably switch.

All City Plumbing said that they didn't think the hot water heater was leaking, that it was the pressure relief valve that let go some water and that's the water that I saw. If that thing ever goes, I have 50 gallons of water in my floor in my basement so I didn't wanna play around that's why I called American Home Shield. The thing about a hot water heater is that I hope that if it does start leaking, it leaks slowly so I can call American Home Shield and get somebody out here.

Sometimes we get sent these private companies to us. Some are better than others. I prefer to deal with a major brand repair shop or a shop that is pretty well-known as opposed to these local mom-and-pop shops. I had two leaking toilets and the guys that came pulled up to my house in a station wagon. They even had to go to the local hardware store to get the wax ring. They did the job, but I would have preferred an actual plumbing company to come up in their truck with the equipment already on the truck.

It would be good if American Home Shield could make the process quicker for replacing. I have replaced two appliances through American Home Shield in the past - a dishwasher and a washing machine. From the time you call and the time you get the appliance, it could take three, four weeks. With a hot water heater, I'd be playing with fire if I had to wait four weeks for it to be replaced. In some cases, that's made me even wanna leave American Home Shield because it takes so dang long for that process to take place. In the case of the dishwasher and the washing machine, those are two appliances that a family uses every day. We had to wash our dishes by hand. I got a family of six. That was inconvenient. For the washing machine, we had to go to a laundromat for weeks and weeks and weeks.

The way it works is their repairman comes out. He says that the part is not available or the parts cannot be replaced. American Home Shield then does their checking and they verify that that's the case. I've had repairmen say, "I don't know why they have to do this because I've been doing this job for 30 years. I'm telling them the part is not available any longer." Also, some of the delays in getting a repair person out here can be substantial. When American Home Shield knows that a repair shop can't come out there within a few days, then they should try to go with the next option. For the hot water heater guy, I had to wait a week. American Home Shield should’ve said, "A week is not satisfactory. We should go to the next option."

A faucet that was installed four months ago no longer worked. The technicians from Valley Appliances were there on time and one of them took their shoes off. He looked at the faucet and was talking to me about how long ago it was put in. He said that they had a faucet there that they could put in but it would be a different style. But since the faucet we had was installed four months ago, it was still under warranty. They had to do a warranty swap to get a new faucet. We had to wait three days for them to put in the warranty. A tech then came back three days later and put in the new one. It's working fine.

It was difficult making the claim with American Home Shield. I called and told them that we had just installed our faucet and that it wasn't working anymore. I wanted the company to come back out and check. They made me pay another $75 for the guy to come out to reassess the problem and to put a new faucet in. They said after 30 days, one has to get charged again. It's also pretty difficult to get ahold of someone at American Home Shield. I'm always on hold for 45 minutes before I can talk to somebody.

So, he just left. I had ADT come out, take all their alarms off and then I had AHS sent out another company. That other company came out and said that Ideal Services put the transformer in wrong.

The second company fixed my address light but not my doorbell which had a chime that wasn't working. The tech said that they couldn't fix the doorbell right then as they had to talk to AHS. A week later, I called AHS and they said they couldn't cover my claim 'cause of the diagnosis of the technician that found that my issue did not involve normal wear and tear. They couldn't share the diagnosis of the electrician and every time I would call them I was on hold for an hour. I would then talk to a call center where there is a language barrier. While I've had other good experiences with AHS, this claim was tough.

Communication by Home Shield could be improved. That would have solved a lot of issues. In this case, there was no communication. It's been a week since I canceled my claim and Ideal Services is still calling me to schedule an appointment to come out and give me a second opinion. Every time they call me, I would answer my phone and tell them that I canceled everything because of their crappy company. Still, they keep on calling.

The gentleman from Majestic Custom Heating & Air Conditioning did some work on the air conditioner roughly a year ago, so he knew who I was when he came to the door. They were out and prompt and got it taken care of within a few days of when we called so we're happy with that. Fortunately, the weather changed and was cooler for those days, so I have no complaints.

One thing that I've had a little difficulty with American Home Shield is that the phone lines have been extremely busy. The phone line seemed to be a difficult way to contact AHS over the last couple of months. My wife and I are both Realtors and we often suggest the warranty for our clients. There is a place to put the bleach in sitting right in front of my furnace. The tech explained that because we used the air conditioning a lot, the build-up came about. With that one call, I had several of my appliances in my house fixed at the same time. Everything has been working fine since then. I'd recommend AHS. I know a friend that has a different home warranty program and her experience has not been as smooth.

My garage door opener would not work from my car or a garage door opener and I called American Home Shield. Submitting the claim was easy and I did that online but if you wanna talk to a person, it's a nightmare. You have to hold forever such as almost an hour. Magic City Door came out and the response time was good. They came when they said they would, called right before they arrived and let me know what time frame they would be there. They replaced the motherboard and a gear. They were very professional and they did a good job. I would highly recommend them. People need to know what they're gonna cover if they’re making a home warranty purchase. I had a friend and she got a home warranty company and she didn't even realize that her refrigerator and the washer and dryer were not covered on it. So, she had to add them after she had them for a year.

The pool suction with the pump wasn't working. I submitted a claim to AHS online and it was real easy. Once I was able to schedule an appointment with the contractor, it was two weeks out. It would have been nice if it was a closer appointment. The contractor came out and they did social distancing. They tried to fix the pool pump, which I don't think is the issue. But I know they're just doing their job. They came with the sole purpose of fixing the pump, which is what the claim was for, but I think there's something obstructing the line between the pump and the pool. I would need to get ahold of another company or another contractor in order to clear the pipes. I've had Upland Pools come out and then The Pool Contractors. Now I would need the third company in order to clear the lines if it's covered under the same claim.

Appliance Professionals is great. I've dealt with two of their technicians, and both of them have been highly professional and exceptionally knowledgeable. They're always fully masked and very accommodating as well. They've been really outstanding. They explained the issue to the extent that they knew. I called them again over the weekend because of the problem that they attempted to fix last time. Whatever they did didn’t appear to completely solve the problem, so they're coming out tomorrow to escalate the conversation with Bosch.

We've had problems with the dishwasher since mid to late August and when I first contacted American Home Shield, they sent out Sears. This was the second time Sears had come out. They came out, originally, for a different problem, so I didn't think anything of them. They came in, and their technician seemed to be fine. He did an initial evaluation, thought he'd solved the problem, and went away, but the problem wasn't solved. I contacted AHS and they scheduled another appointment with Sears on a Friday, but the technician never showed up.

I contacted Sears, and they said, “Oh, well, technician was ill this morning and didn't show up to work. So we're gonna have to reschedule.” I said, “Okay. Monday works fine for me.” They said, “No, we're not gonna be able to get you on a schedule for another two weeks.” That was completely unacceptable to me, and I went around and around with them on that.

Eventually, they sent me back to AHS and AHS said, “Well, yeah, that's not acceptable. So we'll send the Appliance Pro group out.” Appliance Professionals was able to come out the middle of the following week and they've been very responsive. Their people on the phone are great. I'm not happy with Sears and I won't have Sears come out again, but I have been happy with the Appliance Professionals. I'm also happy with American Home Shield so far. We moved in in the end of May and I got the service as part of buying the new house.

Mr. Fix It came out and assessed what I needed for my washing machine and ordered the parts. Then, when the parts came in, I called them. the tech came and fixed it. So, it was very flawless unlike my current appliance problem. I have another repair, but Sears is the one handling them. I have been without a refrigerator since August 26th. It's been a little over a month.

With Sears, it's been horrible. When they came out and they assessed the parts, the parts came, I called and they said the parts were here. I had to miss two days of work because they stiffed me twice. They made an appointment, I sat here and waited, and the person never showed. So then I called and they said they were running late, and then they changed the time. I waited, and it was hours later. So I called again and they said, "Oh, he's not coming." They did that to me twice.

Finally, they had a guy come out Saturday of this week to fix it. I didn't have all the parts, so he couldn't fix it. So they had to order another part, and that came Saturday. They told me if it came Saturday to call them, and they would come out here and they would fix it. It came Saturday about two o'clock. I called them and they never answered my phone. They told me to text them. They did neither. They've left me hanging. So I called American Home Shield to tell them all my concerns with Sears, and they managed to get somebody to come out today. Hopefully, they don't call and cancel again and this issue will finally be put to bed.

Overall, American Home Shield helped me. I talked to a guy on Saturday to tell him that this issue had not been resolved and what Sears has been doing. He put me on hold and he did his research. I don't know who he got ahold of at Sears, but he got ahold of somebody up the food chain and put me in touch with them to schedule an appointment. They wanted to come out the 3rd of October. I said, "Absolutely not. Not that I'm more important than anybody else, but you can't tell me somebody that just recently developed a minor problem, you can't put me ahead of them since you basically, you know, have made my life hell for a month." So, she finally wheeled the schedule around and got them in today versus Saturday.

Other than Sears, having American Home Shield has been very beneficial. I've only needed them once when something happened to the machine. I ended up with Sears when the refrigerator first started because the first contractor they sent out to me said they couldn't be here in three weeks. So I was said, "Three weeks?" Now here I am five weeks later but that was how I ended up with Sears. American Home Shield had nothing to do with Sears. AHS is a good company. It's not their fault Sears jerked my chain. What I should've done two weeks into it was tell them that my refrigerator wasn't fixed. It's my responsibility to let them know when people are not doing their job that they send out. But they could've called Mr. Fix It for my refrigerator.

Submitting the claim was pretty straightforward and the website was manageable but if there was an app, that would be even better. Then, I called the contractor and they arranged the time the next day. The tech from Mr Fix It wasn't here very long. The service was pretty fast and efficient. He replaced the motor and since then, the washer has been working. We just moved in here and having the warranty helps not to worry about expenses.

We were having issues with our water heater and my husband took care of the claim submission for that online. Altstadt Plumbing was sent out and they handled the claim fine. We got the issue resolved and our water heater is fixed now. We had another claim for our pool heater and that process was not very good. When I tried to call, I was on hold for over an hour before I ever even spoke to a representative. Filing a claim over the phone takes very long. From there, the claim was partially covered which was fine. But the guy who called to tell us that it was not gonna be fully covered did not have any information and couldn't explain it. That part was very frustrating.

American Home Shield needs to make their representatives more aware. It was like their rep was reading from a sheet and it was only the things he was allowed to answer. And the things he was reading had nothing to do with why the claim wasn't fully approved. When you ask to speak to someone who can help like a supervisor, they don't wanna do that. I tell them I need some help but it was really difficult to get any actual response. American Home Shield should educate their people a little bit better or their reps should make better notes in the computer system so they can answer questions.

Once we submitted the claim for the AC, the contractor contacted us within 48 hours and then they came out the following day. The guy showed up when he said he would. He was very professional and I appreciated that. The capacitor that went out and he replaced it. The only negative thing was that I paid $75 for him to come out here and when he left, he had an additional $140 in his pocket. That aggravates me. Typically, what happens is they come out and they go, “Okay. Yeah, your warranty covers this part, but you need this. And if you don't do this, then it could cause more problems that's not covered under your warranty.” So you're kinda put in a rock and a hard place. I don't appreciate that at all.

I had to write the tech a check because he said that the AC lacked coolant and I needed two pounds at $70 each. I knew that the problem was the capacitor. But I figured I would let American Home Shield handle it since I've been paying all this money for it. Right now, I’ve spent more money on monthly premiums than I have saved on the coverage using it.

I was with Home Shield before and I had an issue with them regarding the air conditioner. I dropped them for a period of time and they reached out to me. Looking at other companies, they seemed to be the better out there. So, I decided to go back with them. I had been pleased up until that point. Recently, A-1 had to re-seal the refrigerator and adjust the door. They wore masks. However, I'm still having a problem with when Home Shield sent contractors out to do my toilet two times, and it's still not working properly.

Home Shield first sent Neace Plumbing out in March. The tech put a flapper on there, but that didn't solve the problem. What the problem was you have to flush it about three or four times before it would go down. Then, Home Shield sent Melton Plumbing out here on June the 23rd and I haven't heard a thing since. They said that the toilet needed to be replaced, and then that was the end of it. I called Home Shield on numerous occasions and couldn't get any satisfaction at all. I'm disappointed in their service. I called them out three times, and it was twice for the toilet and once for the refrigerator. I do not feel good about them.

One thing that is really good about American Home Shield is that they do the response time very quickly. If I make a call on a Thursday, usually somebody is out by Monday which is pretty fast. That's a good turnaround time. Recently, S. Electrical Contractors had to do some wiring and everything's working perfectly. However, I had tried to call in and speak with a rep but the wait time is ridiculous. Doing it online is easier but all the choices that I'm looking for don't seem to be there. Maybe they're limiting their choices based on coverage. Also, American Home Shield only seems to want to just fix little repairs. If the kitchen faucet is an el cheapo faucet, they are more interested in just repairing it. I would go buy a brand new kitchen faucet and it would cost them the same to have the plumber to install the new faucet than to fix the repair with parts for the repair. But that's not an option with American Home Shield so I'm limited in the quality of the end result with them.

I understand sometimes they're thinking people are just trying to get something for nothing and that people want to get a brand new thing and they want American Home Shield to pay for it. But if I'm willing to pay for the faucet and they were already gonna pay the plumber X amount of dollars to do this repair and still have to go get parts for that, it may even cost American Home Shield less because they're not having to buy parts. They're just having to pay for labor. I want a new faucet on my sink because then I'm not gonna be worried about it going to break again. Plus, it's gonna look better because it's new. I also don't wanna keep fixing an old potty. I wanna get a new toilet in there and I want it to be installed correctly. I want it to work for years to come. I don't mind paying for a new potty. If a potty is broken, American Home Shield needs to pay for the repair. Why don't they just spend that money on installing my new potty that I bought? They're not very flexible in that.

Another thing is the people who owned the house that we bought installed a brand new really nice air conditioning unit. It was under warranty with the company that installed the unit but I paid $75 for a contractor to come out. Most air conditioning companies are charging $65 a pound of freon and American Home Shield will only pay for $10. They had to put in 12 pounds and I paid $55 out of my pocket for 12 pounds when I could have gotten a tank for $125 and done it myself. But if I do anything myself or if I get my own subcontractor to come and do it for less, they will not recognize it and it will cancel my warranty with them.

They have people from Phoenix City and Montgomery come to Auburn. If I had been doing this myself, I wouldn't have paid the $600 in the very beginning to get American Home Shield. I could have called any of the subcontractors that I already have a relationship with and they would have come out quickly and would have charged me less. I also wouldn't have had that $75 service fee that I pay to American Home Shield. I would not recommend American Home Shield to a friend but I would recommend every single one of the subcontractors. Every vendor that they have sent has been excellent.

In using American Home Shield for a few years now, a pattern has emerged. When something goes wrong, you need to make multiple phone calls and you are placed on hold from 1-4 hours on each call (no exaggeration!). The representatives all say the right stuff (i.e. "I understand your frustration..." and "I will fix the issue...") but AHS doesn't empower them to escalate/resolve issues. Their website always says: "Issue complete" when it's not complete, which then requires another call to straighten them out. We are not big complainers. We're 60 years old, and we can say that AHS is the WORST company we've ever dealt with.

The strangest thing was happening with my garage door. It was opening by itself but it wouldn't open or close when I wanted it to. It was crazy. It was in the house when I have bought the house and I've been here for 11 years now. I don't know how long these things are expected to last. Mr. Fix It came and their tech said something wasn't talking to the other. They sent the order in that same day that the mechanics of the door needed to be replaced. Before I could even call American Home Shield and to ask if the guy told them about the thing that needed to be replaced, the guy was calling me trying to see the time to come out and install it. I was like, "Whoa, you just left here, dude."

In a matter of a day or so, Mr Fix It was back and the thing was installed. They were very professional and respectful. But they left their ladder and I texted them about it. The man said he already cleared the area but he would be back in the area on a particular day. I told him to give me a text or a call and let me know. They did that and when they let me know they were pulling in, I opened the garage, he grabbed his ladder and I closed the garage back down and thanked them. I told him to have a good day. I have no problem with Mr. Fix It and I will recommend them to anybody to do anything. It was just two guys but they were very nice.

After the service, the garage door has been working okay. The only problem that I'm having at this point and I'm not sure why that is so is every time I open or close the garage door or I put my car in, sheetrock is falling down on my car. I thought perhaps it was from initially doing the work. When Mr. Fix It left, I didn't have any expectations of that happening. It's not like I as told to expect it either until the motor gets adjusted in the groove. But it's still happening and it's not like it's a little bit. It's beginning to get concerning and I'm not sure what else can be done. The ceiling in my garage is popcorn. I'm hoping that it doesn't get worse. Eventually, I'm sure it'll kinda wear itself in there and it'll get used to that thing being opened and closed.

Other than that, the company that I dealt with was the best. As a matter of fact, I've reached out to their guy since just to see if he does a certain type of work because I needed something else done. He told me he would do it if I already have the existing electricity. But if not, it was not something that he could do. But I got me some Fix It people for real because I'm gonna keep running it by him first. I've dealt with them and I like how they do business. That's why for any little small thing around the house that they can do, I'm gonna throw it to them first because they've already been to my home. I like how they were when they were at my home and I would rather deal with them first as opposed to going to HomeAdvisor. New stuff like that is a crapshoot. You don't know what you're gonna get. You got to hope that they're as nice as Mr. Fix It.

If it ever has to be replaced, we know we won't have to be out a lot of money. That's what we keep the home warranty for, mostly. I prefer doing claims online. It's really easy to do that and it's quicker than calling it in.

We did a claim when we had an issue with our oven and Zerr Appliance was assigned to come out. The tech knew what was wrong with it. It ended up being some kind of circuit board. The tech said the part was back ordered and it took about a month to come in. With everything going on with COVID, there are some issues with back order so we were fine with that. The day the part came in, the tech came over here and put it in. Our oven is working fine now.

I don't have a working bathroom. I had three different plumbers come out. The first one said they couldn't clear the blockage. The second one came and he claimed he had been able to clear the blockage but apparently, it wasn't because a few days later, the problem reoccurred. I called again about the same issue. It was either a leak or a blockage. The initial plumber said it was stoppage. When I submitted a recall again, the guy said that it was possibly a leaking pipe. Either way, by the third time, I ended up having to pay twice, and it was all the same issue.

The first guy said he couldn't continue and that the home warranty needed the camera approved. It would be nice to have known that. When I called back that evening, the lady said she was gonna get an approval for a camera which she apparently did. When the second plumber came out, he said he didn't own a camera and he didn’t get an approval for one either so he couldn’t solve the problem. When it wasn't solved, they called a good time to try to recall it. They made a mistake with the rescheduling. Someone else finally came out and the guy identified that there is something blocking the system but that he needed the camera and it’s my HOA that will be responsible. At least he gave me that information which the other two weren’t able to do.

I’ve had a good experience in the past that's why I renewed the policy with American Home Shield. I had them again in my previous home. I rarely use their services but when the contractors did come out, they were great that’s why I was kinda confused this time why they weren't able to help me. It's silly for them not to have a camera or not make that an option. If the consumer is gonna go with the warranty company, or if the consumer in the future decides to use a plumber, that they would call on that plumber being that it's a local plumber. Both companies are keeping themselves from keeping the consumer because they're not presenting the offerings. They're really not expensive. It's $500, $600 equipment and they're making it impossible for someone to use it.

I was also a little disappointed with the plumbers ‘cause once they got here, they said it was not approved by the warranty company but at no point did they offer the option to pay out-of-pocket directly to the plumber to have the problem resolved. That's disappointing because ultimately, you're calling ‘cause you have an issue that you need repaired. You would think that that would be an option or at least when they submit their report, to provide the solution to the issue that that’s not covered with the warranty and allow the warranty company to even offer it. No one's offering the solution to solve the problem. They're just saying they don't cover it but that doesn't make sense.

As a matter of fact, we have no issues doing a claim online and getting someone to come out as soon as possible. We usually do claims online and that's easy. My husband put one in and Beverly Garage Doors came out.

American Home Shield is easy to use. The contractors that are on there come out when they say they will, so it's been great.

We wanted our hot water heater to get looked at to make sure everything was running right with it. My wife called American Home Shield and we were told to expect the contractor the next day. After Efficient Air Systems came out to look at the water heater, they wanted someone to look at our furnace as well. There was a pipe that runs into the tray and they didn't think that was correct. So they referred someone to come out and look at our furnace. Efficient Air Systems was very professional and our interaction with them was great. Everything is working well with the furnace and the hot water tank.

We had an oven that stopped working and I made a claim to American Home Shield through the website. It’s quick and easy. They gave me 24 to 48 hours that the contractor would make contact with us. He called within two days and then scheduled a date that he could come. The technician was great. He came in, did the assessment and turned the assessment in to AHS. The oven had to be replaced and the only issue we had which had nothing to do with AHS was the delivery of the component. Because of COVID, everything is getting delayed. So, it took a little bit longer for us to get our oven. They gave me a projected delivery date and when I went to inquire why it was not delivered, they said that it would be the following week, which was this past week. This Sunday was when they delivered. The man who came to install it was very good. He came in and it took him 30 minutes to complete the installation. He was very nice and professional.

We've been with AHS for maybe 10 years and we've always had some very good technicians come out. We've always had good results on the scheduling between the technicians and ourselves. But when we have to have something replaced, I always have the same problem with AHS. The CSR is very unprofessional and I had two of them hang up on me. No one seems to know exactly how anything is supposed to go as far as from one department to the next. So, there always has to be some clarification between one department and the other. One person understands how it's supposed to go and the other person does not. There needs to be more cohesion between the departments about standard procedures.

A-US Air Conditioning of Texas fixed our AC. It was super easy to submit the claim with American Home Shield. I tried to call in but I was on hold for a very long time. So I did it online. It is very simple and it is easy to navigate through the online system. They got back to me really quickly. They told me that the air condition people would call me within 24 hours and I got a phone call from A-US Air Conditioning 15 minutes later.

The first technician who came out was on time. He called me before he came out but then he called me again when he was 20 minutes away. Then the second one couldn't fix what was wrong. He was too big to get into the area that needed to be fixed. So another guy came the next day. He gave me a time frame. It was a big chunk of time between 12:00 and 4:00. The guy got here at 4:30. My husband and I were frustrated 'cause it was hot. We have smaller kids in the house. We were driving around in the car just to get them an AC. I was texting him and I called him but he didn't answer. I also sent a text message to the number that he sent me the ETA from and asked them what time would they be here. But the guy was really nice when he got here.

He ordered them, came back and fixed what that thing in the back of the refrigerator was doing as well as the ice machine. Then, there was a follow-up because the door handles came off. So, he just ordered it and replaced it. The technician seemed to be knowledgeable about the types of problems they've seen with this refrigerator with other people. He seemed to be having issues with it when he was trying to fix it but then it worked, and it has been fine ever since.

I did the claim online to American Home Shield portal and then, they called. We scheduled a time and the contractor came out. When I did the follow-up, I did it through the online portal as well. The website was fine but I couldn’t add a lot of detail in it. It did what it was supposed to do. I was able to get the service and they put the follow-up in it. There was a lot of time in waiting for the part though. Both times, it might've been a week to a week and a half.

I'm glad that I got the policy with American Home Shield. I feel pretty secure that if something happens, they would be there for me. They were very punctual and called back right away for a claim I had. They took my deposit and got me a plumber. The plumber came out and evaluated everything. He was so knowledgeable. I had other people look at the issue and they couldn't figure it out. But the plumber who came figured it out immediately. I ended up soliciting his services to fix the things that were not covered and I thought it would be a really expensive bill. But he was very fair with his prices on things that were not covered. I would hire him again as my plumber. He was that good.

I had about four or five plumbing issues like the stopper not working. There was only one thing that American Home Shield covered out of all the issues I've had. There was a part missing from a handle so that wasn't covered. There was a leak in the bathtub but the plumber said it was not covered. I understand because it didn't seem like it was something that was covered. It was caulking. But we didn't know where the leak was coming from. The plumber also fixed something in the shower that was covered. The guy was very professional even in his approach of letting me know what was covered and what was not. He was very matter-of-factly but very polite in his presentation and communication. I appreciated that.

Everything about the plumber was stellar. I was totally impressed. I also was very impressed with American Home Shield for having technicians like that that they send out. Also, the receptionist that answered the phone always returned the phone call within a few minutes if she was busy on the other line. I never had to wait very long at all. She was very attentive and expeditious in her response.

I switched from the home warranty companies I was with for 15 years to American Home Shield. That was about a year ago. Their website is fine in terms of getting on once you get on. But there seems to be a really long delay when you press your account or you request service. I've tried it from work, my desktop, and my phone. The other thing is there's a PDF or there's something over there on the right to see your actual warranty and what’s covered. When you click on My Warranty Coverage, the breakdown doesn't come up easily. There are some lag issues. Sometimes you have to kinda go a long way around the website to find your actual list of what's covered and what's not covered.

There should be an improvement on the website thing. Also, the turnaround time is a little slow. I've had three service issues in the last four months. AHS took four or five days while the other warranty company I had before was only about one to two days. But it wasn't a pressing issue so they haven't bothered me. But if it was a pressing issue, four or five days is a long time. Otherwise, we’ve been happy with AHS so far. For an issue with our dishwasher, AHS sent out Revolff and their tech handled it really well. He was really professional and he informed me as he went through repairing what the problem was. He went above and beyond what I expected even when he first came.

With our recent claim, Marchman Plumbing came out. The guy's proficiency was good. He knew his business and did it in a timely manner, and was very courteous and nice. The plumbing issue was caused by aging. Apparently, through the piping that was underneath the sink in the utility room where it just sort of pour out and had sprung a couple of leaks. He replaced it with a new piping and a different valve that took care of that. It's still working right.

However, I've had problems with American Home Shield in the past and I've been with them now for around 20 years. We're up in Northern California near a town of Bridgeport. Up to now we had no plumber, electrician repair, or certified company close within about 60 miles. I had to find my own people then get them on and I had to go through all kinds of protocol to get approval. When a guy comes 60 miles and checks it out and then he's supposed to put in an estimate and come back in two days, that's a bit much. I didn't quite understand that policy. I know it's very difficult, particularly when the weather's bad.

In one occasion, we had snow and we had quite a problem with a leak where a pipe had busted, but the guy couldn't do anything about it till the guy went through this so called protocol, and if he won't put it through properly, then AHS won't pay for it, or it's almost like a fine. In this case, I had to pay upfront first because I just couldn't wait. I didn't go through protocol or the guy didn't go through it, and even though I explained the situation about why it had to be that way, under the conditions, there was apparently no exception.

There was another problem with some of the payment. So I went ahead and paid it but I was very upset. I went to the California Regulatory Business, the agency in California that takes care of complaints like this. I wrote to them and explained what had happened with American Home Shield with the situation, and by golly, they got ahold of American Home Shield and they reimbursed me part of that money.

I've been following up this refund since this happened way back last November. AHS said they sent out a check, which I never received. Last month I tried to find out what happened and after going through several people, they finally found the statement that had been sent in way back and they said they would be sending me the refund now. But of course being up in the mountains, I haven't been down in our home in the city so I don't know whether that check has been sent. But they're supposed to do it. They're not aware of what the problem is. They ought to be more lenient with that type of protocol that they use particularly for customers who live up in the hills.

We were in California before and we had American Home Shield there for two years. We had them in Colorado for a couple of years too. We moved here to Potomac in February and we also have the warranty. Aside from AHS, we used another company also and I was very dissatisfied with them. I found AHS to be more prompt in managing things. They were prompt in getting someone out there when the chain on our garage door wouldn't work. It wouldn't go up or down and the chain had disintegrated. The guy from 495 Garage Door took care of it very nicely and we never had any problems. We were very pleased with that experience.

Sometimes there is a bit of a breakdown in AHS' claim process. We have an ongoing claim with our refrigerator where they've been trying to figure out what's wrong with the freezer and that's been going on since March. They send somebody out and they think it's fixed then they have to come back. I know it's complicated with the Coronavirus. It also depends on the size of the company that's doing the work like if it's a smaller one and they don't have as much availability. But we're still working at that. Hopefully, it'll be resolved in the next couple of weeks. They've ordered another part and we'll see if that does the job.

For people considering warranty options, try and make sure you will get what's covered. The deductible is pretty much the same with all the companies depending on how large your house is. We have a $100 deductible. With these companies, AHS is probably better. In trying to contact someone, they wanna steer everybody to doing that on the internet, but sometimes you wish that there is a number that you could call in directly when you're trying to report an issue and talk to someone and it wouldn't be outsourced.

When our dryer had a button stuck between the tumbler and the motor, someone from Affordable Appliance Repair came out and he didn't have to replace any part. Everything went fine on this particular call, but I had a deal for my air condition prior to that and it was completely mishandled. As a matter of fact, I got a voicemail a week after the deal was finally fixed to let me know that the part was on order. I called in several times and I requested a supervisor to call me back. Nobody called me back, so I was out of my air condition for two weeks in Texas, in the summer. I understand it's a business and I don't want to put people down, but the follow-up on that claim was very poor.

The light didn't work and for making a claim, American Home Shield’s website was quite easy. They indicated who the contractor was, how to contact him and that if I was not contacted, that I should give the contractor a call myself. A-ZAP Electric is one of their best contractors. He has come out several times for me. He’s always prompt, efficient, friendly and the work gets done. The experience with A-ZAP was wonderful but the experience in trying to contact the customer service of AHS was totally unsatisfactory. They used a call center with people who were difficult to understand. When I asked for a supervisor, I was hung up on and disconnected on two tries. I dialed three separate numbers to get ahold of customer service and was either hung up on or told that the wait was gonna be an excess of 50 minutes. None of that was satisfactory.

My dishes weren’t drying and the inside was getting kind of black and maybe mildewy. It seemed dirty. The most annoying thing was that my dishes would never dry, especially on the top rack. I filed a claim to American Home Shield and the contractor came out. Ronnie, the technician from Quality Appliance, was awesome. He kept me informed along the way and he was very polite and professional. He determined that the heating element, that coil in the bottom of your dishwasher, was out for whatever reason. So, he ordered a new one through American Home Shield. The part was on backorder and there was a long delay.

The technician came and installed the part. I ran the dishwasher just with a cleaner in it to see how it would do. When I opened it, I noticed that that new heating element had melted the bottom of my dishwasher. He didn't install it improperly. It's just almost like it got so hot that it melted it. He determined that it was not fixable and I would have to get a new dishwasher. I bought one from Lowe's and it has been installed. It solved everything. American Home Shield provided me $632 towards a new dishwasher, which only covered a little over half of the new dishwasher but that's okay. I've had AHS for about 13 years since my last two houses. I've always renewed my contract with them. I like the peace of mind knowing that if something goes wrong, I have something in my back pocket to hopefully get it fixed and that it's not completely out of my pocket. I'm pleased with AHS.

I had a clog down in my sink that needed to be unclogged. A claim was submitted to AHS then Rains Plumbing came out. The tech fixed it within 40 minutes and it was really quick. Since then, everything's been great. All in all, AHS is there to help you out. For the little fixes, they can come out and it would not cost an arm and a leg.

When I ran any faucet or flush any toilet, it sounded like the pipes were moaning in my walls. I submitted a request online. The website was okay but it was kind of limiting. I wish that I could add more information to fully document everything. I was then alerted that the information was forwarded to United Air Temp and that they would be contacting me. They contacted me quickly. They were great and their tech was wonderful. He was very professional and courteous. He explained everything and he answered all of my questions. Communication was very good.

This claim was a follow-up request because the issue wasn't fixed on the first part. Now, everything is working properly. I don't have any more weird noises coming from my pipe. Now, I'm not afraid to use any of the faucets or flush any of the toilets which is a good thing. American Home Shield was very helpful and fixed what I had asked them to fix.

They found other people to do it ASAP and they came the next day. They did a really good job. They fixed it really quick.

I had some GFI plugs that weren't working. I was watching it because they would make popping noises periodically. I actually called American Home Shield in regards to a freestanding freezer and the lady said that it was not covered in my policy. Then I told her about my GFI plugs and she made the appointment for All Safe Electric to come out. The gentleman who came out said that they weren't good so he just replaced them. They're working now. The gentleman was very nice. I asked him why this happened all of a sudden and he explained that it was not an all of a sudden thing. He said that it could be a long term of over-usage, like too many things plugged in that could wear these things out. I also told him that I was afraid of my house burning down or that something would short it out. But he explained that the breaker would trip before that would happen. He also wore his mask and he was very professional.

The guy from Ace's Garage was outstanding. The little remote control to my garage door had to be HotSynced and he was very professional and helpful. It was a simple repair, but he did it very quickly and explained what he was doing, so he did a really good job. The issue I have with American Home Shield is trying to get follow-up. I make appointments and it's all done electronically through voice activation.

The voice would ask about what I need and I tell them. They ask me to pay $75, and they would send somebody out and then I give them my credit card. It's all automated, but we've had some issues with our washer, and the follow-up on it has been very difficult. I called and the wait time is stupid. It would be a three-hour wait, but I can't sit on the phone for three hours. That's the biggest challenge. The other thing is if they can hire people that has English as their first language, that would go a long way.

Everybody wants stuff done yesterday and they want it done at half the cost, so people are gonna lose stuff. They're gonna lose speaking to someone where their first language is English. American Home Shield fields their calls out overseas and those people try their best to relate or make a connection to you when you're talking to them, but you could tell they're reading a script. Every once in a while, I'll have somebody from the United States, and those conversations go so smoothly. Someone who has English as their first language, they get it.

The motor had seized up on the dryer and when I sent in a claim with AHS, they sent out a tech who replaced it. They handled it properly and to my satisfaction. With AHS, you got to know what is covered and what's not. For example, I had another recent job through a leak on an air handler and apparently, it was caused by a cleaning that needed to be done. So, that was extra 100 bucks on top of the charge and my $75 fee didn't give me anything. The techs just came out, told me what was wrong but said that I couldn't fix it unless I paid for the extra piece to the company. So there are a couple of little things like that that needs to be noticed and it's better to read the fine print on a lot of things.

We've had very good experience so far with American Home Shield. We've had them since '99, so it's been a long time. When our breaker initially was being tripped, I had to go out and keep flipping the breaker back on. The condenser that's located outside then stopped spinning, so I turned off the AC inside the house, so that it wouldn't burn up anything. I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out. The gentleman from Efficiency Experts checked the unit, and he said that the capacitor was the issue. He replaced it and the AC seemed to be working fine. It was cooling on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, but then on Saturday, the breaker started tripping again. It wasn't even hot and it was at nighttime.

I went out there, flipped it on and it was fine. It kept cooling and then on Sunday, it did it a few times too. I thought it was odd, and then sure enough, I noticed that when I flipped it back on by Sunday night, it wouldn't come on. I just turned it off and that's when I called Efficiency Experts to come back out again since they had recently been here that week. A different gentleman came out to fix the air condition the second time and I told him that it was doing the exact same thing before they replaced the capacitor. He said he would look at it and after a while, he said that he replaced the motor and then we signed the little paper.

I don't know generally how long motors last, but I thought last year when I was having air condition issues that a motor had been replaced. I could be wrong though. Anyway, the gentleman said that was what the problem was and it's been working fine since then. The contractors were very nice and friendly. I didn't have much interaction with the second guy that came out, but the first gentleman was thorough. As far as being helpful, they worked with me to squeeze me in and it was the same thing with the second time around.
