American Home Shield does great service. I recently submitted an online claim for my AC and they came out on the weekend and made time to help us get comfortable. That was an awesome thing.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

My water heater was leaking. American Home Shield had one person slated to service the water heater and check it out. But as I did some research on the company that was coming, they had a lot of bad reviews on Better Business Bureau. So I reached back out to American Home Shield and they recommended another company. That company had come out before for my air conditioner and they were amazing. So they came back out again this time and they were amazing too. The guys were very nice. They replaced the water heater. I did have to come out of pocket for about 300 dollars, but the company that they sent was very good. American Home Shield handled the claim quickly. But they should try to look into the contractors that they have right now and make sure that they are all up to standard.

American Home Shield warranty is a bad idea. They only collect your money but no services. If anything is broken they patch it, and charge you 75 dollars plus every month services. (Everything temporarily and cheap material). Customer service sucks. Especially after COVID they trying to get more suckers. Please be aware.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We do apologize that this request has caused you to cancel your warranty. Your feedback is important and we look forward to your possible joining the AHS team in the future. Have a great day!

Slow service, it may take weeks to get one service request solved. Read the contract! The people they send you to are not quality companies. No email to customer service and 30 min wait times for a phone call. If you have 2 plumbing issues, you have to order them separately and pay $100 for each service charge. Also they choose providers who are often times rude and very slow on service, right now I'm waiting for 2.5 weeks to get a garbage disposal installed and they already billed me the $100 for the visit.
Thank you for reaching out to us to provide your feedback and experience. We appreciate you being a valued customer of American Home Shield. We do apologize for the delay in communication in resolving your issue. We would love to speak with you more to discuss this matter. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

Absolute nightmare of an experience. It is downright impressive how a subsidiary of a publicly traded company can be so incompetent in the one thing they are supposed to do – cover the repair or replacement of something that went wrong. In my case, the thing that went wrong was the AC unit just as summer is starting to get hot.
After they sent a tech out to examine the unit, a complete replacement was recommended, to which AHS agreed to. After this, you would think it would be as simple as ordering the unit and scheduling the install, but of course not. They apparently have various departments and levels of approval, they might as well be a government agency with the amount of bureaucracy, even the DMV is more efficient than this. After it was determined that the unit would be replaced, the automated system kept on saying "equipment on order" for almost two weeks straight. I was on the phone with them every single day and as of this review nothing has been resolved.
They keep bouncing back to the technician, saying the tech is responsible for ordering the unit. It was then determined that it wasn't the tech, it was actually AHS's responsibility. The order was recreated and even though supposedly AHS ordered the unit, they cannot locate any tracking info or other status as to where the parts are or how long it will take. After calling over and over, another representative from their Facebook page then said it's the technician's responsibility for ordering the parts! And so the circle continues. They offered a $100 reimbursement for a window AC unit as a result of this inconvenience which is not only a joke but downright insulting. Many times the reps say they need more time to research the issue and will call you back but surprise, surprise, they don't actually call back. If you are a current customer, pray that nothing breaks down because AHS is downright unreliable.
Are you still in need of assistance?

I don't like the deductible that has creeped on up since we had started, but I also understand the cost of things have creeped up too. But American Home Shield has been responsive for the most part. I had a long wait on an air conditioning problem here recently, but the whole system apparently needed to be replaced. And then the guys that AHS had contracted use it to milk every dollar they can out of it. The deductible turned into a rate of $3,000 more on my part. That was not what I had in mind about a home warranty. I thought that's what it was for when you have those big things, because they get to you when something like that happens, where with the smaller things, a lot of times, the air condition guys, by the time you pay this deductible, a lot have come out here for that. And you’ve spent a few dollars more in fixing.
Having American Home Shield is better than not having something. But that 3,000 started making me think about something different once they figure the premium and the deductible if we have problems. Before then, it has always been stuff like the AC or heat wasn't working, or icemaker stopped operating and it was the deductible. Those took care of things okay.
I saw something, and I just inquired about it from Amazon Home Warranty. I went with them for a little while because they covered Freon on air conditioners, where that's another thing that their contractors will hit you up with, and I don't know whether they're telling me right or not. I tried them, but they were the worst company I could have gone with. And it made me appreciate American Home Shield and a lot more from what a bad run company is and somebody who is not worried about the customer, looking back on my history with them through the many years.

American Home Shield's service has been great. I have had some great technicians that have come out based upon my service needs, and their response has been great and the work they do is excellent. I had very informative individuals that came out, and they are people-oriented and very personable. They strive to meet whatever concern I have, and explain things to me in a professional manner and keep it simple.
Airtronics wasn't supposed to come out for our AC. We were trying to resolve this matter as to why they came out besides the company that was supposed to come, and there was some confusion. Still, they weren't able to do the work based upon my contract agreement with American Home Shield. They're not affiliated with American Home Shield at all. So that was an issue. Airtronics was great. My husband loved the gentleman that came out. He fixed things quickly. We had already knew what the issue was, but he came out and did what needed to be done and gave my husband some added feedback that he should know. It was all beneficial. American Home Shield is a good company to utilize and have your home service needs met. They're very professional, on point, and really give excellent customer service. You won't be disappointed.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

The guy came out. He was nice. But he left, and a week later it’s leaking again. He told me it was nothing really wrong. It was funny, because it was so simple. My daughter had just got the shower, so it was leaking. And he said, “Look, it's nothing leaking.” Which it wasn't. But then, right after that, it started right back. So, I just put in another claim. American Home Shield said I should pretty much open up that same claim back up. So I'm waiting on them to call me now. It has been a couple of days. A coverage is good to have. I got it a little later than I should have.

The contractor couldn't find anything for my recent claim but they got in there and got at it. I have a son-in-law that is over the city sewer. He cleaned out from my house down to the corner but I had already called American Home Shield because it was still backing up. What probably happened was it took a few days for whatever was blocking it to fall out of the pipe from our house to the main line. It hasn't done it anymore.

When a guy from Air Squad came out the first time, he was going to replace just the fan. But when he got a closer look, he saw that there was a bracket that was damaged beyond repair. That had to be replaced. He also confirmed that the motor was gone so that had to be replaced too. He explained all that to me pretty clearly. He had to order the parts and I only had to wait three additional days for that. Throughout the whole process, he did a very nice job. He worked very efficiently and got everything taken care of. My AC is working very nicely now.
Another Air Squad technician came out before too and he either had to relight the pilot light, replace a piece that was part of the pilot light, or keep the pilot light lit. He did a very nice job. It was probably four or five years when I had Air Squad come back out and do something. It was for the heater which was in the same HVAC system.
Each time a contractor with Ameican Home Shield comes out, they don't try what some of the other warranty companies do by saying the problem was because of lack of maintenance. The contractor takes care of things. It makes me feel really confident and happy to make the monthly payment for the policy because I know that they won't try to weasel their way out of something. I've had contractors come out several more times to light the pilot light. They didn't ask any questions about anything. That's the strong point of American Home Shield.
I read online that other people are critical of other home warranty companies because they try to ask 20 questions then try to figure out a way to weasel out of taking care of the problem. With American Home Shield, I dealt with three or four claims over the years and they always took care of them and no questions asked. People are confident that they can get a policy from American Home Shield and know that things will be taken care of.

We had a tech from J Tech Mechanical for the AC and he was really good. The condenser line was backed up and we had some flooding coming out of the air conditioning unit in the attic. He blew the condensation line and he said that we should send a plumber out. He changed the work order to a plumbing work order. The plumber came out the next couple of days and cleared out that line. I haven't seen an issue since.
AHS is very nice and very responsive. But the call centers and the process I've been put through to try to get my plumbing issues sorted from the beginning were painful. I had to sit through 10 minutes of automation before I would get to a representative and then I was passed around to various people. People were saying they couldn't escalate to a manager. They were just reading off of a script and weren't very respectful about the issue at hand. I lost my temper at times. The process was just so frustrating. I tried escalating through an email to whoever they said the shift manager was or the person managing that day and I never got a response. I called back every day for about three weeks to try to get to somebody to resolve my first plumbing issue.
Then, one time, a handle for the valve to turn on the shower snapped off and it looks like the previous owner had snapped it off beforehand and glued it back on. It was a claim that was rejected. A second opinion came back out and they said the same thing. I thought it was something kind of silly to reject on a policy that should be covering something like that. But the contractor who came out was very professional. He was the same contractor that came out for a separate issue and handled it really well.
We do apologize for the inconvenience and your work was not properly done. It is not our intent to cause a difficult experience. We do appreciate you for sharing your experience, and allowing us assist. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

The number three button on the microwave oven wouldn’t work. If you pushed the exhaust fan, it turned the machine on instead of the exhaust. A person come out and he evaluated it. He said that it would cost more to try to fix the panel than to get another microwave. So Home Shield replaced it. Everything was good. If I had anything to complain about, it's the process that you go through to contact Home Shield. They send you a number for the person to come out and do the job. On the first week, a man came out to evaluate and then he called Home Shield. He recommended that it be replaced. So I thought he was the one that was going to get the microwave and come back and install it. But he wasn't.
After I decided on which microwave was similar to the one that we had, Home Shield sent out another company. All the tech did was bring the microwave, put it in my kitchen and set it on the floor. Then a third guy came out about a week later to install it. So to me, it wasn't very efficient. I don't know why in the world they’d have one person to evaluate, one to bring it out, and another one to install it. That was kind of silly. But the people at Home Shield were very concerned to make sure that everything was right. It was a good experience.

I had a good experience. The vendor came in a timely manner. When the air didn't feel like it was getting cold, the next day the guy came back and made sure it was working well before he left. I recommend American Home Shield to my friends that have houses. Because, in the long run, it's worth it in case something breaks down that they don't have to pay all those out-of-pocket costs. This is a great way to get things fixed without being broke. When we didn't have American Home Shield a few years back, we ended up putting a lot of out-of-pocket costs.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.

Nothing went well with my recent claim with AHS. I submitted a claim online. But with the recording, they put the wrong thing. So they put air conditioning unit, but they put the outside unit. I called to speak to a person and said, “They got the wrong thing. It’s not the outside unit, it's the inside unit.” They canceled that one and did the other one. They had made the appointment with A-US Air and then they canceled it because it was the wrong thing. Then they remade it. The A-US Air guy came out. He put water in it and just down the pipes and flushed it. That was all he did and blew it out, and then said it was okay. But, it wasn't okay.
I called him back two days later because there was still a leak coming out of the floor. They sent another guy out. The other guy that came out from the same company said a whole bunch of stuff. I said, “If my system was having a problem like that, I would have known and called for that.” He diagnosed and had a whole bunch of problems that I don't even know why the other guy didn't see it. Then on top of all that, he had cut my unit open up since. He didn't even tape it back, he just left it like that. They didn’t fix anything. Matter of fact, they left it in worse condition than when they came. I've been using American Home Shield for a few years and I still like American Home Shield. I’m happy with them. I don't feel that the problem was American Home Shield.

I cleaned out a closet which shares the wall with the bathroom and noticed the carpet was damp. So, I made a call to American Home Shield. They sent out a plumber. The first plumber who told me, “Oh, you have to have all these Sheetrock removed and everything, and then we’ll come and do the repair.” They came back a few weeks later when the Sheetrock was removed, and it was dried out. And the guy was rude to me and walked out of my house and slammed the door. So, I requested with AHS that they not send them back out to do the repairs. I felt a bit disrespected in my home.
Subsequently, they sent out Budget Rooter and they were excellent. They told me everything that they needed to do, when they would do it, and how long it would take. And they were respectful in my home and to me. So, even if I didn't have a claim through my warranty, I would call them again just as an individual homeowner. When I had an issue with the first contractor, it was unclear how AHS would handle that. At one point, they mentioned, “Oh, well, we'll let our field representative know.” And I was like, “Well, that doesn't mean you're sending them back out again, does it?” But even that communication was resolved in 24 hours. So, then I understood what would happen. Minor inconvenience.
Get a home warranty. It's important because there are unknowns when you buy an existing home. It was my first time managing a claim. I’m a new homeowner. And I had to coordinate between AHS and the insurance company. They each would cover certain portions of the work. That was just a learning curve for me. But AHS was great in explaining to me what my warranty covered and how to go about making the claim and the process easy. It was fine working with them. I'm glad I have the coverage. And if people have questions about what's covered, just call AHS and ask them and they will tell you.

Two weeks ago, I had a water spill that I wanted to make sure that wasn't a plumbing issue. In trying to describe the problem, we had a hard time trying to figure out what the proper technician would be. When I was first working with the technician to try to find someone, I had a hard time determining whether it was a plumbing issue, or a ductwork, HVAC issue or if it was some other one. And every contractor we talked to, we got the run around. They were like, "No. You need to talk to a plumber." But then we talked to a plumber and they said, "No. That's not what we do." That part was frustrating. I ended up settling on a plumber, just because water was involved. But he said he would talk back to the company to see if they could find the right type of contractor to help me figure out the source of the problem.
When the tech came out, he confirmed that it was no plumbing issue. I figured it wasn't, but I wanted that peace of mind, just to have a plumber come out and take a look to make sure. He said he would talk to someone at American Home Shield to see whether the service fee would even be added because it wasn't anything for him to do while he was there. Try to get the most comprehensive package that you can because there may be some problems that arise that may not fall into a clearly defined category. So the more protection that you have, the better, so that you don't get caught up in any sort of dilemmas about whether something is covered.

Then 20 minutes before they came, they called again and confirmed that they were there. When I did the second claim for the hood over the stove that was broken, the same technician came and he fixed that. Then he ordered the parts for our first claim and he brought it by himself then he added it. It's amazing how American Home Shield takes the claim and tells us that somebody will contact us within 12 hours or 24 hours. Then the repair is scheduled also very quickly. Appliance Wizard showed up when they said they were going to show up, so that went well. The part that didn't go well was the gentleman didn't do any diagnostic work at all, said, "The compressor's bad. We're turning this back over to American Home Shield ‘cause they won't let me do compressor replacement. It has to go to GE."
AHS's system is not very clear on who does the scheduling after that point. But I got an email that said I need to contact my contractor and establish an appointment to have the refrigerator repaired. I did that. Then it turned out that that day wasn't gonna work, so I had to cancel the appointment. He ended up canceling everything, saying I was gonna buy a new refrigerator and that never was the case. I never could get through to GE. The AHS agent was very helpful. She was trying to schedule over and over again with GE to get the repair scheduled again. What ended up happening was Royal Appliance Repairs was assigned to come out again to look at the refrigerator one more time.
Then from there, it just went downhill, including the fact that I got double charged for two different diagnostic inspections on the same claim. When Royal Appliance Repairs came out, AHS charged me another $100. But, Royal did a great job. He got in there and took the refrigerator out, inspected everything. He found that the fan in the refrigerator was bad and said, "This is what you need to do to keep your refrigerator alive so the compressor doesn't fail," and was very helpful. Appliance Wizard was not.
I'm frustrated with this part of it because I don't really understand what happened and what went wrong. I'm out $200 on the claim and they still haven't repaired the refrigerator. Although having put the fan behind the refrigerator as Royal recommended, it is functioning properly. So, that freezer fan doesn’t need to be replaced. I just need to get it fixed. I'm satisfied but not happy ‘cause it's still not repaired and I haven't received any kind of updates from AHS as to when that's gonna happen. They're fairly quick to respond. But the follow-on process after the diagnosis, taking care of it, can be very confusing.

We had the gentleman come look at the refrigerator the day before yesterday and he told us that there was nothing wrong with it. H said it just needed to be unplugged, defrosted, cleaned up, and dried up. We did that and gave it 24 hours. It’s the garage fridge, so it’s dried. Then yesterday, we plugged it back in and it was getting a little cool, like it did before, but it's not getting cold. So we are not seeing much the way it should be cold. We have left a message with American Home Shield and we have tried to call a few times A Plus Appliances, the assigned contractor. We left the messages and so far, we haven’t heard from them yet.
But the other experiences before that had been great. Maybe this will turn out to be good too, but we don’t know yet. We were also hoping we’d be hearing from them to let us know at least what should we expect. Now it’s been more 24 hours for the fridge to be plugged in and as a consumer, sometimes we don’t know things like how long should we wait before it gets cold again. Other than that, AHS initially contacted the contractor right away and we got a response from A Plus Appliance in a very timely fashion as well. So American Home Shield, in general, is an extremely good company and I would recommend it to others.

Submitting the claim was a lot easier than I expected it to be. It was pretty easy. I went onto the website, logged in, and then set a request for repair. I paid the $100, and then I got a call a few days later. It did take a little bit longer than I would have liked, but then again, it was also a holiday weekend. The home warranty is kind of a safety net. The only thing I don't like about the whole experience is that I sometimes don't understand exactly what's covered and not covered. But I understand upgrade options, and that makes it easy to understand what's not covered. American Home Shield could also provide a magnet for the refrigerator. The last time I bought a house, I bought their service and I never used them once. I completely forgot about it. But if it's on my refrigerator, it's a simple reminder and it costs cheap too.

American Home Shield sent a technician who said that all I needed was Freon and I paid 100 for the deductible. Then, I paid 156 for Freon and they said that the claim was closed. It didn’t work so American Home Shield sent a new technician out, who said the compressor was no good and that they could get one and have it in a few days. It has been a week and I called him and asked what was going on. He said that AHS said that they have to buy a part. So, I called AHS and they said that the person they sent out said that they have to modify the compressor so it has to be a special one. This is a normal AC unit for Oklahoma and it doesn't take a special compressor. To this day, I still don't have an AC. It still isn’t fixed and I’m still fighting with them.
AHS fixed the fridge and the dishwasher and there were no problems. I had a problem and AHS brought the technician in the suite to fix it. But I can’t get them to do anything on the air conditioning. I could buy the compressor and put it in myself. I'm already $600 into this compressor because they've charged me almost $400 for the modification that it didn't need. People should stay away from AHS. They'll fix anything but the air conditioning. In the deep south, when you're running 100 and something degrees every day, you can't play with air conditioning. Right now, I'm in Salt Lake City at my daughter's house because I can't handle the heat. It put me in the hospital three times. My wife's down there on her own.

I’ve had American Home Shield come three times over the past three years and I've had a positive experience every time. They were pretty good about getting somebody quickly. I called this time and they put the work order in. Then somehow, they inadvertently canceled the work order and nobody told me. I had to call a couple of times so I wasn't happy with that. I asked to speak with a supervisor and I never got one on the phone. But then the guy that came was very thorough and took the time to listen to all the problems. He was able to fix the microwave. He also problem-solved the dishwasher. He figured out that the rinse aid itself was too concentrated and by diluting it, it shouldn't leave bubbles in the bottom, which had been happening. Overall, I’m happy with the service. I'm not worried about my appliances breaking down and having a big expense related to that.

A sewage pipe got busted. It was on the outside of the house, but it was still on property line. The yard was flooded. When I spoke to the person with American Home Shield, I asked for it to be expedited and so he did that. But then All Hours Emergency Plumber called and said that it was gonna have to be the next day so my husband fixed it himself. The guy that came didn't have to do any work besides connecting something that my husband couldn't get connected. He said that he wouldn't charge. But I could still see that I got the $150 charge. I just assumed that it was something that AHS had to charge anyways. I haven't contacted them about it. Still, I would recommend them.

American Home Shield's service has been pretty good. You just had to pay whatever they charge you.” I didn't read my contract really well. Other than that, I had a claim for the AC. It was not getting cold. The tech came and put Freon. My daughter was there and she said that the guy wasn't really friendly. He just went in there, did whatever he did and left. But my handle still comes off and the hose is loose. So, I wasn’t too satisfied with that. AHS should speak to whoever does their plumbing services. Other than that, I had a refrigerator replacement and I was very satisfied with that. Submitting claims with AHS was also very simple and the person that I talked to was polite. When I contacted them, they responded on the same day and I got a very quick response. Things are going horrible with American Home Shield. The parts for my dryer are no longer available. They telephoned me, had a plethora of questions about this gas dryer, and I answered them all. I even followed up with the people from Central Appliance to try to get some more information because American Home Shield said I didn't provide them enough to get the dryer ordered. Central Parts helped and gave me additional information. I gave it to American Home Shield again and I never knew if they would be getting me a replacement or not, but I've been without a dryer for two months. I need a new one. I first had a problem with the toilet. There was water that was coming from underneath the floor and American Home Shield sent a plumber over to diagnose the it. The toilet had a crack at the bottom of it and that was where the water was stealing out of. We had a large toilet and the plumber just replaced it with a little miniature one. He said that was the only one that he could get. I'm a disabled vet, I have a prosthetic knee, and every time I sit on the toilet, my knee is hurting me. Since it’s so small, I have to squat down like I'm a little kid. When I called American Home Shield about it, they never had the plumber come by to replace that toilet back to the normal size it was supposed to be.
I also had a problem with the air condition system. I had to go through different companies and I kept complaining to American Home Shield because the companies didn't diagnose the problem well enough to solve the issue the first time. Then every time I did that, they charged me $75 every time I had to get a different air condition person that tried to diagnose the problem. In two years, it took five different air condition companies. The fifth one was the one that solved the problem. The same thing with the electrician. We had a company come out three times and they never resolved the problem. The electrician just came and walked in, looked at the electrical socket, and walked out. My neighbor across the street got AHS and he talked to me about the problem he got with them. He's about to drop them when his contract is over with. I'm in the same boat as my neighbor so I'm thinking twice about renewing my contract with AHS.

When we first moved in, we had different things that we had done. They were starting to give us some problems, and we needed a few service calls. We started back in 2007 so it has been almost 14 years that we've had American Home Shield. We've had electrical work, we've had a stovetop replaced, and we had a disposal. We're satisfied with the service and the contractors that have come out. Recently, we had clogged drains in the kitchen. It happened over the weekend, which is always awful. But I put in my service request on Sunday. And A & M contacted us first thing Monday. They came out, took care of the problem, and did a good job.
Over the years, we're satisfied, in general, with the service we've gotten. We did have a couple of complaints at different times, but we took those up with the company, and they were all resolved, at least where we all agreed that it was okay. Even that process was okay. The cost of the warranty contract itself has gone up a couple of times. But we realize that it still covers a lot of items in the house. Our house was built in the 60s. So, it does have different things that happen every so often, so we expect that. You can't anticipate anything that might go wrong. So, it's insurance. And we have insurance in different areas. Your home is such a big investment that anything you can do to help you to keep it up is the main thing. You want to keep it in good condition. It's good insurance.

We're getting air, but not cold air. I did this claim to American Home Shield last year. The contractor said it was a leak in the line, so they put a stop to the leak in it and put Freon in it. And it leaked out. They sent out someone a day before yesterday. My granddaughter was talking to them and getting things straightened out because I’m tired of them. My granddaughter also got tired of them messing with me. Last year, they put a new generator in, and I had to pay to have it hauled away. It was not my fault the generator went out. A year before, they did the same thing. They said it was a leak, so they put a stop leak and added Freon. I didn't run it much after they did that. But then the following year, it was the same thing.
I'm very dissatisfied. They're working on it now. My granddaughter has been calling them. She said, "And I will call you until you get it done. Or not, I'm calling Better Business Bureau on you and getting it straightened out." She told them to get it fixed and put me at the top of the list because it's been three years and it hasn't been fixed. They've been putting a Band-Aid on it. It's not the contractors, because they are doing what my warranty tells them to do.

I would never recommend American Home Shield to anyone. The service is horrible. The government needs to get involved. Their call center is from overseas and all they do is lie to you. The people we had, because they're overseas and are not properly trained, they'll just read off through a card. You can call the very next day or the very next minute and get someone else. But it's like talking to a robot because everyone is saying everything exactly the same. They say they'll call you back but no one ever does. I've wasted so much money with them. We had them on our other house too but we didn't renew it after the first year. They suck.
The first time that we did American Home Shield, within about six months, our AC was acting up. We called them and that was when we found out in their fine print that they don't cover the freon that goes in it. That can be very expensive. You can spend over 1,000. But you got to go into this 300-page contract and it's under paragraph, E, sub G dot I. You really got to bury in it and be almost like an attorney to figure it out. American Home Shield did a really good job of hiding it from people.
The company that came out went ahead and inspected both ACs. They replaced a $200, $300 part. They did all the freon, one needed five pounds and the other needed three. That first experience was so great. But six months down the road, we had a garage door that didn't work. We paid a $100 service call. The guy came out and said it was the motherboard. He drained out the motherboard then changed it out but none of the remotes would work. He said they don't cover remotes. I told him it had got to be reprogrammed but he wouldn't do it. I called him and filed a complaint against American Home Shield.
After several weeks, I finally got someone to call me back. They told me it had been more than 30 days and once it's more than 30 days, I got to repay another service call. I told them it was documented and I kept calling them. It got to a supervisor finally that spoke English. They saw where everything was documented and told me they'd refund my $100 service call. By that time, a couple of months had passed and I had already paid someone else out of my own pocket to come out there. All it was was they just had to reset the stuff.
When we bought this house, the first service call we used was a door lock change. The guy called, set up the appointment but never showed up. He called me two hours later, said he got stuck and that he'd be here after 9:00. I told him we got kids and he was not coming here after 9:00. We rescheduled the following week but it was the same thing. He got stuck in traffic, had other calls, and it was going to be later. Finally, I took a day off and we scheduled it. He had a child who got sick which I understand. In the end, they never did it. I called American Home Shield to get my money back and they told me the company said they completed the work. I called the company and the guy told me, "You mean he hasn't come out there?" I said, "No, he never came out there." He said he'd call me back but I never heard from him. Every time I called, I got a voicemail.
The claim for the pool was fantastic. The contractor was incredible by far. We took the gentleman out to the backyard and he had to look at the pump and study it because when they install pumps, everyone does the plumbing differently. Almost immediately, he got it figured out. He started telling me about everything. I made a comment to him that I kept trying to resolve it on YouTube by watching videos and doing research on my own because I didn't want to call American Home Shield as I just had a horrible experience with them the month prior with my plumbing. I didn't want to throw away $75 if I can figure it out.
I had to ask him, "Do you mind if you label everything?" I went and got him a Sharpie and he identified every single valve. It was making funny noises so we thought the pump was going out and that's covered under the warranty. But what it was is we have a custom grande dive pool, and every once, we get these little rock stones that will get in there. When they start hitting into the fan, the fan will break them up. It's not harmful to your pump but it makes a loud racket that's irritating. When you go turn off the pump, that stuff will settle. You turn it back on and it's quiet. But it could be anywhere from a minute, few minutes to a few hours after and it would start doing it again.
He asked if we had any more questions. I told him the waterslide is not working. He looked at it and and said, "This valve shouldn't be shut off." He fixed that. Apparently, the last company that cleaned our pool had shut a valve off and they weren't supposed to. Also, on the top of the sand filter, there was a gauge that wasn't working properly. He said, "I think I got one out in my truck that's brand-new." I asked, "How much do I owe for?" He said not to worry about it and put that on there.
The most recent claim before the pool was our sump pump. We have a sump pump in the basement connected to the kitchen sink. The previous owners had totally redid this three-storey home and the kitchen downstairs. They added the sink and hooked it to the sump pump so it would pump it upstairs. I called American Home Shield and told them that it wasn't working and it was flooding. All that is covered in the warranty. It clearly states it. They sent a plumber out and it was a gentleman who couldn't speak English. But the lady who was with him that was the translator was telling me there was a valve broken in there. It needed to be replaced and was not covered in the warranty because it's connected to a sink. I told her that was not what it says in the contract. I opened it up and had the thick manual in word-for-word.
They told me that my sump pump is not covered because it was damaged due to not normal wear and tear. When I finally got a supervisor, I asked how is it not normal wear and tear? There were no dents or breaks or anything. A valve had broken inside the sump pump but they're wanting to come out and claim that it's not under normal wear and tear because it's connected to a kitchen sink. That's still an open thing. I still haven't gotten reimbursed my $75 on that. Out of the six times in three years we've used American Home Shield, we've only had two successful ones. The other ones have been ripoffs. People were not knowledgeable and didn't know what they were doing.

If you call American Home Shield, they will be responsive and get whatever vendor they've assigned to you to escalate the work order and show up faster. They may put you on hold for a while but they will get to somebody that you can't get to. However, the follow-up when something is wrong and getting something fixed is an act of God. My washing machine shreds all my clothes and it's been two and a half months. They ordered all the parts on March 25th and all but one part is in which is the plastic piece I could pop in and off myself. They won't do a partial repair on it so I'm not a happy camper about that. At what point will American Home Shield get me a new washing machine like they're supposed to? I have to hand wash everything except for my house right now.
I have two American Home Shield accounts, one for my house and one for my mother's house. On my mother's, there was a claim for a built-in microwave. My sister was there and they told my sister it couldn't be repaired and that they would replace it. I've been trying to get it replaced for a year and apparently, they went to Parts and Parts didn't think it was clear that it needed to be replaced or that the guy couldn't fix it. They never called me back and agreed to that. I've been calling them monthly for a year now. Now, they say it's too late for it. But it's like my washing machine. It's now going on three months and it's not fixed.
My mother's hot water heater blew. The guys that came out on the plumbing knew it needed another one and I've called American Home Shield twice. With the hot water heater, American Home Shield pays for the replacement but you always pay the upcharge for the plumbing and technician. I called American Home Shield yesterday and they didn't know what the quote was. They said AZ Plumbing was supposed to call me but no one's called me to give me a number or what I need to do. I called AZ Plumbing and asked. They said I had to pay the upcharge first which was $404.25. Once I paid it, they'd schedule it. I paid the money and scheduled it for Friday.
As long as you're a squeaky wheel with the contractors, then you can get service. I had the appointment scheduled for tomorrow for my AC unit between 12:00 and 4:00, and the guy called back and said, "I got you changed to 9:00 to 12:00." I said, "I can't do 9:00 to 12:00. I told you that before because I have a doctor's appointment at 8:45. There's zero chance that I can do that morning slot." He said, "Then we can get you in two weeks." I said, "No, you can't. You can give me the original slot I told you before." We finally agreed that he'd do 10:30. Tomorrow, when he comes out to fix my air conditioner, maybe I'll get lucky and they'll be able to fix it there or maybe they'll order a part then I'll be without it for a couple of weeks.
The service on American Home Shield is good but it takes a long time to get things fixed especially this year. The first time, the AC unit was broken for three weeks before they could fix it and get parts in. Then last year, it was only broken for two days before they could fix it. But they always fix it and it always costs less than buying a new unit.
The contract is well worth it financially because American Home Shield does cover all the things that are going to go wrong. There is always a service charge so you don't want to call them for something minor because the service charge is material. But generally, it's a really good value for the service. The only big problem is nobody wants to replace anything even though that's usually the easiest and probably the least cost way. For my mom's house, things would break in the house and it would be 1,400 here and 1,300 there and 1,500 there. With the hot water heater, I knew there'd be an upcharge and the upcharge is $900 to bring it to a totally different code.
American Home Shield has been very helpful whenever I've called and tried to find where things are. When I call them, they're very patient and I go through every problem I have every time I call them which these days seems to be daily. They're polite and they tell me what to do. They will track down the vendors, find them and try to escalate. If you don't like a vendor you're working with, they will switch the vendor out for you. Without exception, they do everything possible on what they're doing.
But American Home Shield probably doesn't pay their contractors that much. Their contractors may not communicate as well as they should. Some are good but most of them, you get what you pay for and they've negotiated contracts that are a good price for them. That means that you need to sit on top of the contractor that American Home Shield selects and you have to plan that it's going to take longer than if you just called somebody and did it in cash. But the differential in cost, if you want to be able to plan something and budget, is well worth it. If you have an older property, you save three to four times what the all in amount that you pay to American Home Shield. For my mom's house, it went from costing me $3,000 to $6,000 a year to something that's $75 a month plus $100 a charge. That's a much more manageable thing. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. I have friends that have some competing services and their issues are more than mine.

AHS wasn't even processing it the next morning. I had another claim for the water heater and someone texted my wife to arrange a time. They looked at it and it took a few days for the parts to come in. The techs were good but they were slow with parts.

Over the years, AHS paid for a hot water tank and a garbage disposal, but nothing really big. I have an older home that was built in '59. The cast iron pipes are starting to deteriorate underneath the house and I was trying to see if they offered any type of service or claim on that. I paid the $75 to get the guy here discussing what the problem was because the people answering the phone didn't really know. You can't describe a problem like that over the phone. He said they would dig it up the floor, replace one section, and it's going to take more than one section.
I pay AHS $66.17 a month and right now, I haven't gotten a lot out of it for what I paid into it. In customer service, you can always get ahold of somebody and get a claim number. But they need to explain more detail, like what they're going to cover like on sewerage lines. It's very vague on how it's written. It's also very vague on what to do. Like when I had my hot watering tank replaced and I wanted to have my plumber do it because sometimes, they fix the cheapest way with the cheapest parts they can use. Like they take out a good garbage disposal and they're only gonna pay for X amount for the next one to go in, so you don't have the same quality of garbage disposal than what you took out because you're using a cheaper part.

Anytime we call, we're at least an hour on hold, sometimes longer. Sometimes if it turns into over an hour, we hang up and call again. To get a call through is an hour commitment and we're busy innkeepers. That's a lot to be left on hold for an hour. Whether it's answering the phone or paying a claim, prompt service goes a long way towards happy customers. Overall though, having AHS is beneficial. That's why we continue.

Advanced Home Services' tech came out to do the AC repair and he told me that it was leaking refrigerant. He topped it off and then gave me some kind of lecture about how I shouldn't call them again because the home warranty company is just gonna make me pay crazy. It was off-putting. Also, I don't think that he made the issue any better. He just was shooting a gun up at the vents and saying it was fine, but it's not. When cold air doesn't blow out of two of the vents, there's something going on. I had a similar problem when I called for a leak in my shower faucet. The guy said if they couldn't fix the leak, they were gonna have to rip out the whole shower. The leak got worse and I'm afraid to put in another order for that because I don't know what they're gonna try to do.

We've gone through American Home Shield a few times and it's always been an easy process. The plumber we had for our recent claim figured out the issue within five minutes, cleaned everything up, and left. However, a variable cost would be great for something like the plumber. I paid 75 bucks before I know what the issue is. I could have saved money by not going through Home Shield.
Other than that, AHS is very good and I'm very happy with them overall. We had a situation where they sent somebody out for the air conditioning. The techs fixed it but after they left, we had the exact same problems. We had to set up service again and AHS warned us that if it ended up being a different problem, there would be a double charge. But it ended up being the exact same thing. So, they refunded the $75 fee for the second call which was great.

Sirius Plumbing is great. I had a leaking faucet and they addressed it just fine. They had to order a new faucet and they finished up today. The repair man was nice and did everything in a timely manner. He also gave me some tips about underneath. He said, “You might want to go get some of those cheap peel and stick tiles to put under your sink. So if something ever leaks...” Now, my faucet's not gonna leak, but if I knock over something and it leaks, it won't go in through the wood. I'm very happy with Sirius Plumbing. I will always want them to come out if I have a plumbing issue. I had a previous issue with them with a garbage disposal, and the first young man that came out was polite, professional, and showed me what happened (there was a paperclip in the garbage disposal).
My cousin and my Realtor told me to do a home warranty because that will be very helpful for me in case anything happens. You never know what's going to happen, and if everything's working fine, that's great. But if one thing goes bad, it could be thousands and thousands of dollars, and I might not have that right off the bat to do. I never even thought about it until my Realtor and my cousin said something. I'm glad they did and that I took their advice. I have an older house, so I'm also very glad I have American Home Shield, because I would have no idea how much the prices of new faucets are. The $75 that you pay for someone to come out and assess the thing was very well worth the price of the faucet. You pay a service person more than that nowadays.

Every time the AC would turn on, the lights would flicker on and off briefly. So, I figured that there might be something wrong with the AC. I called an AC technician and when he came in, he took a look at it. He didn't take too long to look, but he was pretty thorough. He checked the capacitors and said they were all fine. Then he checked the power usage and he did the standard tune-up. He made sure that the main circuitry of the air conditioning was working just fine and he confirmed that. He suggested that maybe it's a problem with one wire touching another and I needed to bring in an electrician to look behind the circuit panels. So, he left and I filed a claim for an electrician.
He came by and looked at all the panels everywhere, then he said there were no wires touching the other. He was really friendly and answered all my questions. He called his manager so he could explain everything because I had a lot of questions. I was asking how did he know for sure that it wasn't a problem with the wires and he said that if it was I wouldn't be seeing the power flickering off just when the AC was turned on. Instead, when the AC would be turned on, the lights would be flickering nonstop throughout the entire house. He said the reason these things pop up from time to time is when you have new building material and the way that houses are built, the codes are constantly updated.
He suggested that I needed the installation of a hard start kit on the AC so when the central thing first starts up, the AC should only start on when it reaches a certain amperage. That's what the hard start kit is supposed to do and it's supposed to prevent the lights from flickering when it first turns on. When I asked him why didn't the AC guy didn't catch it the first time, he said that generally, the AC repair people are concerned with the function of the AC unit and they're not concerned with how the electricity's functioning throughout the house.
We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your AC request. Your malfunction will always be our priority. We look forward to our continued business together. Take Care.

The techs came out and went up on the roof. They said that everything was cool and that the air started cooling off. This happened on a Friday and they said that if anything went wrong, we could call them back, not AHS. Three hours later, the air conditioning went kaput. I called them back and nobody was there. Then on Sunday, nobody was there. I called them on Monday, the holiday, and nobody was there. They knew that they had to replace something, so they had to order the part. So, they sent me an email saying they've ordered the part. When the part came in, they said they attempted to call me and they didn't want to come out that day because they said I didn't answer the phone. But that wasn't true. They called the wrong number.
There was a lot of confusion and finally, they got it going hat Wednesday. But they wanted to cancel this trip and I had to beg them to come that night because we had been five days without air. And I was thinking when they left, that the air was working. So they knew it was going to be broken but they didn't have time to fix it at that time. They just made it last for about a couple hours. I've been an AHS customer for a long time and I'm not used to being treated that way. That was when they came back and said they'd keep us on their schedule. And they came 6 o'clock that night because I told them that I was going to write a letter to AHS. Other than that, I love AHS. They are great and I've told several friends about them.

Normal people that make a house put a hot water heater on a slanted platform. So, if it leaks and it has a slow one, it leaks into the garage. Ours did not. Ours went into the wall, into the spare bedroom, all over under the carpet, into the wall and into the laundry room. We did not know it because it was a very slow leak, until we walked in there and our feet were mushy. So, we had to call American Home Shield and they took care of everything. They had a hazmat unit out here to evaluate and dry up all the water. They drilled into the walls so, the walls had to be repaired. All the flooring had to be ripped out and the water heater had to be replaced. It was drastic.
This time, AHS has tried to send two different repair people numerous times for the refrigerator. One company came two times and then, another company came at least four times. They replaced parts, sealed things and did everything that they could do, but it's still having problems. So, were we getting it replaced. They asked how I wanted it and if I wanted it on an e-card. So, I said yes to the e-card. But this has been going on for a year. With COVID and everything, a lot of things got slid by and appointments got made and canceled. Still, AHS has been very responsive, both by email or by phone call. And the people that they choose to come out to repair are very courteous and prompt.
AHS is very good. They don't send a very unknown company. Me and my husband are both in our seventies and AHS is a security that we need to be in our own house. We just have to budget for it. We can afford the deductible and we can afford the payments every month but we couldn’t afford thousands of dollars to repair something right away.

The AC was coming on intermittently. I was not happy with the first electrician that came out because he spent a total of about five minutes in my house and that included him coming in, going upstairs, looking at three fans, going back downstairs to his car to get his phone and then take pictures. He did not try to diagnose anything. This first electrician was from Westside. Even after he came, I didn't get a call from him as far as what was the next step. So, I did call American Home Shield and they told me to call him. When I called him, he told me that AHS had authorized him to look at one fan. I asked what was the reason. He told me that I had to call AHS back again.
When I called AHS back, they told me that they didn't say that and that they didn't authorize him to just look at one. I said, “You know what, I don't want to deal with this guy.” So, then they sent me someone else. The first guy didn't have a ladder. The next guy who came, Bobby, was really good. He came in with a ladder in his hand and with his tools on his waist. I showed him where the equipment were, and he was up there looking at them, observing, trying to see what the issue was with the fan. The other guy did not even do that. The other guy came in and literally came downstairs and got his phone from his car.
Bobby was from Electrical Service Professionals. They were extremely great. Bobby walked me through everything, talked to me and said, “What's going on with this one? What's going on with that one?” He was informative and answered my questions. He told me that he didn't think that the warranty company would replace them, but what he could do is he could try to see what was going on. He actually fixed it. He just turned on the fan and it's better than it was before. He had one issue. In one of the rooms, he needed to go into the attic. It was around 4 o'clock, and it was very hot in the attic. He had taken down the fans and everything was on the floor. He said, “I can't go in the attic because it's really hot in there.” I understood that. I said, “No problem. Just leave everything.” He tidied up everything and made sure he covered all the electrical wires in case anyone went up there. That was thoughtful.
The fan was on the floor, and I called them and I said, “Is somebody gonna come out?” They said that they had accidentally closed out the ticket. I said, “Well, somebody needs to come and put the fan back up and do something in the attic. Do whatever they need to do in the attic and put the fan back up, because the fan is on the floor.” They told me to call AHS so they can open back the ticket, so that the contractor can have permission to send somebody back to finish the job.
When I called AHS, the lady was very helpful. She got on the phone, then she put me on hold, then she called them and left a message. The next morning, they called me back and said, “Hey, we’re going to send somebody out. What's a good time?” Then they sent another guy out here. He had his ladder and his tools. He went upstairs and he went into the attic and did what he needed to do. The fan was up and they came and fixed the fan. Everything was great. They answered all my questions. I've been pretty much pleased with AHS. Westside was the only one that I didn't feel so great about. So, AHS has been very good.

First, I had my dryer worked on and not a week later, my washer. It was great. It was immediately assigned to a service provider, and they were super prompt. Both times with the very next day, they showed up and addressed the issue. The first time, it was a 15-minute fix. The second time, it was going to be a rebuild, but they are super forthcoming with information, and I have a date on when that'll be completed. I'm very happy with the service.
It's great peace of mind to know that when the inevitable happens (that is one of your appliances breaks down, your HVAC breaks down, or whatever it is), there's a finite number of dollars I know I'm spending on that. I would rather spend even a couple dollars more just to have that flexibility, than have this volatile, random money spend. American Home Shield was a recommendation by a friend, but I also shopped around a little bit. It seemed like the best value for my money. It covered more than others and was more comprehensive and easier to work with, while the others seemed a little less so.

When we would call up, American Home Shield asks us a few questions. We answer them then tell them what the project is that we need looked at. Lately, it's been some plumbing items. They have called back and made sure it's exactly what we wanted. They tell me when they would have the contractor look at the issue and let me know what day and time. Our condo is in Arizona and we've moved back to Illinois. We can call AHS up and get things taken care of. They call directly to our tenants and set up a time and date. AHS is just fantastic while we're in Illinois. We love it. The service is very good. Go with them.

My system stopped working and the drain pipe was clogged. I called it in with AHS, but it wasn't explained to me that I may not get somebody on a weekend. I was told that the vendor that they use wasn't picking up the call. I asked the person if that was the only vendor in this area. She said no. I said that if they don't have time to call, to give me the numbers of the people. At least I can call to see if I can get service and refer the call back to them, so that they can approve it.” She said that she can't do that. My issue was they have to convey to me what the expectation is.
Because the first assignment with the vendor came about my air ducts. And the guy came out and told me they had to reconfigure them and tell me what was going on. That service request was taken care of. AHS assigned me to the same vendor. And I don't know if that’s protocol, or if that vendor can’t service. I said to cancel the ticket. Whenever I called in, I still haven't gotten a response. They didn't pick it up. They sent me a text. It said, “Saturday at 8:25 PM. A contractor has been assigned to your request.” It has a URL address to monitor it. But I haven't heard from anybody. I'm very dissatisfied.

The response time of AHS could have been better. My wife and I had to have a water heater replaced and we were without hot water for a week. It was during Memorial Day weekend so that could have been the reason for the delay but my wife and I were boiling water up the stairs so we could take bird baths. It was a big inconvenience. For the most part, the process for submitting the service request was smooth. We didn't have to do a lot of heavy lifting on that. We're pleased with Grade A Plumbing's work. They were here at the time they said that they would be. The plumber was particular about being careful in my home. He took care of the problem efficiently and left. However, there is long wait sometimes to get through American Home Shield. I was on hold a very long time before an agent came on. Also, in the beginning, you had a choice of whether to pay the service fee then or after the service was rendered. Now, you have to pay it upfront. We had an incident where American Home Shield sent someone from another plumbing place. When he got here, he said they didn't do that and left. But he said, "Don't worry, you won't be charged. We'll let them know that it wasn't covered." He never did that and American Home Shield never gave us our money back. But in the three years, that's the only bad incident. I would recommend American Home Shield.

At the beginning of May 2021, I called MS Services again and they scheduled Sanad ** to come out on Monday, 5/10/2021. He was very knowledgeable and stated that he will put dye in the refrigerant so that they will be able to detect the leak but I have to pay for the refrigerant that is $325.50. I paid for service directly to MS Services. The unit began working again and within 10 minutes of the technician leaving the unit stopped working and I heard water flowing in my walls near my bedroom on the 3rd floor. I called the office and they said they will send him out the next day on Tuesday 5/11/2021. He came out and put additional refrigerant and stated that there is a leak in the line set. He stated that he will be back on Monday 5/17/2021 to look at the unit again.
On Wednesday, 5/19/2021 I received an email from AHS regarding my claim and that I needed to call them. I called and the representative stated that the "modification" was not covered. I asked what that meant and they said they do not know but it wasn't covered. I asked for the scope of work and they refused. I asked for my money back for the deductible and the refrigerant and they refused. I asked for a supervisor and the representative refused, he stated that they will put in a call to call me back within a few days. I hung up and called back and had a similar experience but this time the representative stated that they will have an escalation rep call me back.
About an hour later I received a call from a rep. I explained the entire situation again for the 3rd time. The rep stated that he was going to call the service company to clarify the scope as the "modification" was not clear. He came back on the line and stated that they were going to clarify the scope of work and he stated that I should be hearing from someone in a week or so. Since that day 5/19/2021, I have not heard from them other than a letter dated 5/20 from Front Door stated that my claim is denied. I called the # on the letter for the Insurance at Claims Services Bureau and the rep stated that I should file a claim.
Today 6/1/2021, I am on the phone now with AHS to file a claim and the representative called the company (MS Services) and they stated that they are unable to complete the work keep hanging up. I have been waiting for a call back from them since 6/1. I called and the representatives just continue to repeat themselves and would not let me speak to a representative. So I canceled my contract as I refuse to give them one more dime of my money. They could care less about the cancelation and my AC is still broken.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

I'm ready to cancel American Home Shield. Everything I've had with them this year has been bad. I had a trouble with my shower and the man that did that was good. My son-in-law called them because they are a very good plumbing company here in Houston. While they were here, I told them that the washing machine kept leaking. They looked at it and said, "It's not a plumbing problem. It's a washing machine problem. It needs to be replaced." The American Home Shield guy said it was a plumbing problem. All he did was put two filters on the back of the washing machine and the hose. That cost me $75. I called American Home Shield and they couldn't take these two plumbers. Today, they're supposed to contact the plumber from American Home Shield but I have to file another report and pay another $75 to have them come out here and check that.
I've had American Home Shield over 25 years and I'd never had a problem with them. My daughter has them 35 years and she's so disgusted with them with what they did me on the freezer so she canceled. They keep you on the phone a long time before you ever get to tell them the problem. Also, it does not seem like they have qualified workers anymore. The people on my refrigerator were Sears men who are supposed to be some of the best. I can't believe that it took four and a half months. They kept ordering the wrong parts. Right now, I have two boxes with that just in it and nobody wants to pick it up.
They sent another Sears man out here and he knew what he was doing. He wasn't here ten minutes and found the problem. He said, "These gaskets will not fit this refrigerator. They're gonna have to get you a new refrigerator." American Home Shield did replace it but that is five months later. I lost all the food in my refrigerator and freezer twice and they don't reimburse you for that. The Sears policy are reimbursing people. American Home Shield doesn't.

I called American Home Shield and it was my first experience with American Home Shield since signing up for that program. This was on a Thursday before Memorial Day. We were going out of town the Wednesday of last week, and I had an electrical problem with the wiring of the house. The air conditioner caused the electrical problem, so I was trying to find an electrical contractor to fix the electrical problems, so I could then get an AC person after. American Home Shield found a contractor, but the soonest appointment would have been Tuesday after Memorial Day. That meant we would have had to leave the house on Wednesday for going on vacation with two animals in the house, no air conditioning going and I wouldn't have time to fix the air conditioner.
I talked to the service rep at American Home Shield and said, "That time on Tuesday doesn't work. Can you escalate this and get someone out here either today, which was Thursday, or the next day, Friday?" The rep said, "No, I can't do that. We don't escalate air conditioning problems unless it's 104 degrees." They wouldn't do anything. I said, "Let me just talk to your supervisor." The rep said, "I'm the only one here and you can't talk to a supervisor."
I talked to the contractor, and they had said, "Push back, they can escalate it." So, I did and got to someone that was a supervisor, and he said, "The rules say I could do this. Now, I have to go find my guidelines." I said, "Let me talk to your supervisor." He said, "No, that's not possible." So, after 20 minutes of saying, "This is not acceptable," he said, "Let me see what I can do." He finally made some other calls and said, "I've checked with our contractors. We have four of them in Dallas, and none of them are available."
I said, "Thank you. That's what I was asking you to do." But they were trying to stay with one contractor. Finally, I got the electrical problems fixed outside of American Home Shield, and I contacted them, and they assigned me to Hall’s for the air conditioning. Hall’s did a great job. They were out there when they said they would be. I knew what the problem was. He identified it quickly and addressed it quickly and was gone. And that was great. The AC was fixed on Friday and everything went okay from there.

The air conditioner wouldn't hold Freon and it froze up. We called and whoever answered the phone took the information and initially assigned another organization to the claim, and that didn't turn out well. The company wasn't responsive. When I called, the owner was rude, started raising his voice and cussing at us, and talked about things like they don't have enough employees, they don't have enough time to come to service our system, and literally just hung up on my face. He called back saying he'd call me back, which still to this day, he never did.
I had to call American Home Shield again. They assigned another contractor, which was All Hours Mechanical, and they then came out and serviced the air conditioning system. Everything was above board from their end. The only issue we had was they were hammering some type of boards up in the attic, and there was some plaster that came loose from the ceiling that was below them. They are supposed to get back with us to rectify this situation.
People should be careful in the sense of making sure that everything that should be told as a consumer is divulged before any type of work order is put together. Right now, we have a particular issue with someone that we spoke with before the work took place, which he did not tell us everything that we needed to know on American Home Shield's side.

The air conditioner wasn't coming on. When the tech got here, he went upstairs in the attic and checked it. He said everything was good up there. He came back down and checked the big unit outside. He took the panel off and the next thing I knew, he got it working. The claims process was good. When I call AHS, I get through and they set me up with a technician. They show up for whatever the case may be.
A year ago, I had a problem with my trash compactor up under the sink and the problem was never corrected. The technician came out about three times. I spent $100 upfront like I normally have to do, and AHS kept sending the same technician. I don’t know if he knew what he was doing. I re-signed with them after the year, and they recently had a fantastic company come out. However, they have some vendors on their list that shouldn't be on there. I had a really bad experience with one of them. The man from that vendor (a plumbing company) called me the C-word and told me I was crazy because the city was telling me that he didn't do his job properly. He didn't, because I ended up having to have someone else come out and do it on my dime because I had to have it fixed. The city almost called the police on the guy. He was insane. There are bad reviews on him online everywhere too. I told AHS that, but they didn't put it in my record. When I called for a similar service, they ended up dispatching that vendor. I caught it in time to make them cancel it. I have another company now that's really great.

Alex from A & R was helpful and honest. He was great about it. He did more investigating and took pictures. He did a good job.
American Home Shield would charge me for the third motor that had to be put in because they weren't going to cover it. But I said, “That's not my fault. They put the wrong part in twice.” The first tech couldn't get the right model on there. So, Alex put in a universal unit because it's a Nordic unit. And he finally got the part right. It was touch-and-go in the very beginning and they got it done. They were on time when they came out. They knew what they were doing and ordered the parts in a timely manner. They finagled things around where one part was in. They came and put the compressor in before they did the other part so I could get my refrigerator running. They worked very well.
Every time I would call, American Home Shield would say they had to cancel my appointment or I cancelled my appointment but I didn't. I called them because I had gotten an email that they were sending somebody else out. They said I had cancelled the appointment. I told them we had everything squared away. Then they couldn’t give me a straight answer as to why Mr. Appliance cancelled. It was on a Friday that I called and said, “I need to speak to a supervisor because this needs to be dealt with.” The rep told me a supervisor would call me in about an hour and I still haven’t gotten that phone call. My daughter has American Home Shield and she was about ready to cancel. I told her there was a glitch but American Home Shield did follow through. They got things taken care of. He just made up stories, so I didn't want to deal with him anymore. I will not allow that guy back in my house ever again. I don't trust him and I don't think they're a reputable company. I asked for a second opinion and they handled it professionally and very well. Their guy took a look at it and he obviously knew what the problem was because he said that he had seen it before. He then said he'd report it in. After that, American Home Shield came back and approved the dishwasher replacement, likely because they couldn't repair it, which was good.
Other than that, sometimes, the people on the phone at AHS are a little bit difficult to understand and sometimes they don't listen that much. But that's okay as long as they take my situation and deal with it. When something's broken, I need it fixed expeditiously usually. Having six people live in a house and not have the dishwasher for almost two months, from beginning to the end of the process, was a little difficult. I hate washing dishes and I hate waiting for things to be repaired. That's why I have American Home Shield and using them is pretty simple. Sometimes they'd drop the ball, especially in timing, but you have to press them and if you don't like the answer, you have to ask why.

When I call, American Home Shield gets somebody out there quick. It's great. However, it's been very hot and humid in Las Vegas, and we're still waiting on a part for our AC. The first time the repair guy came out was Memorial Day, and he said it was a leak, and then he put some Freon in it. It was $500 and during the day when he was there, it was cooling off. Later on that night though, it was getting warm in here then the unit started blowing out warm air. Something else must have went wrong, then. It was probably some other issue that he didn't notice at the time besides the leak.
We called and then another guy came out this past Saturday, and he said, "This other part, it would try to kick on but then it wouldn't. You can hear it humming and then it just would never kick on." He said that part needed to be replaced and he put in a work order to get it. The techs were both fine. They could only do what they think is wrong at the time, and then come to find out, it's something else. Now, we're just waiting to get the approval through American Home Shield so we can get the part. I'm hoping to get it soon 'cause this triple digit heat is not working.

The tech determined what the problem was and told me what he needed to do. In both cases, he had to order a part. He left and then called when he had the part ready to install.
With another company, I had a nightmare one August when one of our air conditioning units broke down. The techs sent by that company brought out a replacement but they didn't know how to do it properly. They left without closing the pipes properly and it all had to be completely replaced. What he explained to me was something with the door that jarred the fuse caused the fuse to blow. I was thrilled to have it working again. My experience has been great, except in the beginning when it came down to the transaction. On my first day of payment, instead of them taking the monthly charge, they took the whole yearly amount which jacked up my bank account. They reversed it, but it didn't sit well for me. Other than that, you need to get AHS. It was worth it.

The AC wasn't cooling off at all. We walked outside and looked at the central air unit in the back. The tube that goes from the AC unit into the house was completely encased in ice. I called AHS and JP Plumbing & Heating came out. The tech said it was the motherboard and he replaced it. It worked for a couple of days but it's been getting warmer and warmer. Yesterday, it was just warm air. I went outside, walked around to the AC unit, and saw once again it is just encased in ice. There's still something wrong. I called back and hopefully, the tech is coming back. I haven't gotten a phone call yet.
It's very easy to call AHS's number, say what's going on, and have them respond. The only thing is they could give a little clarity on what's covered and what’s not. It's pretty broad statements on the paper that I got. For example, it says two central AC unit ductwork and I don't know what two means. I have one central AC unit. And I don't know what specifically is covered by replacement, repairs, what kind of repair. A little more information on what's covered would be helpful.

American Home Shield has done a lot better recently than they had in the past. They frequently change plumbers and electricians. They were great guys coming to my house but it's never the same person. Also, I couldn't get in touch with customer service - a bunch of jacklegs who didn't know what they were doing. They would charge me $75 for a service and if that contractor couldn't fix my issue and they have to refer it to somebody else, they still hit my debit account. It's too much of a hassle to call back and get that money back so I just rolled with it. I was thinking about canceling the warranty but they helped me in numerous ways. I've had them for 10 years and the stuff they have fixed has been out-of-pocket-wise okay.
I've had water heaters, disposals, and pipes replaced. I've had pool pumps replaced as well. It took me hell and high water to get my air conditioning fixed but they finally did that as they couldn't band-aid it anymore. Recently, my master bedroom sink would not drain. The plumber who came from Sovereign was one of the best plumbers I've ever met. I've been very pleased with AHS. A lot of my friends are in real estate and I tell them "Make customers buy your American Home Shield Warranty. I wouldn't buy a house without it.". Read the fine print though 'cause what you need has to be covered.

When I saw American Home Shield, I said, “Okay, I need some service.” I need to be able to find somebody that can work when I have issues. Rather than trying to look for somebody and having to go through company after company, I can just go through American Home Shield, and they can find somebody to come. I just pay a certain amount of money and be done with it. It is easier. I submit service requests through the app, and I love the process. I got two properties and one of them, my home in Palmetto, is up where a lot of people go through. I've never had a problem with it because American Home Shield can find services for it and they come within a few days as well. It has always been good that way.
On the other hand, my Grantville home is rural-like and you don't get a lot of contracts in the area. It's hard for the home warranty company to find somebody to come to this area. When I had an electrical problem, they kept sending me to an electrician who didn't work in this area anymore. We went around for a couple of weeks trying to get an electrician to come. They couldn't find anybody else in this area, and the only way we got an electrician was they had to pay extra to the electrician that didn't come in this area anymore to come. All in all, I've had some good experiences and some bad, but I feel wonderful about American Home Shield. I recommend them all the time.

The appliance people were very professional. They came out and took care of the problem. Everything was okay. On the other hand, right now, we've got an air conditioner call that we sent in last week, and everyone's so busy that we never got a call back after we were assigned someone. We ended up calling yesterday morning, and the repair guy asked us to text him our address, and he would get back to us. We haven’t heard from him yet and we don’t know how long it’s gonna take him to get back to us. We’ve been running through a heat wave here. We know that all the air conditioning people in the area are busy, but a year ago, we had the same problem with air conditioning as well.
We just cannot seem to get anyone out here. Primarily HVAC people. Almost everyone else (appliance people, plumbing people, or anyone else), we have no problem with. It seems to be everyone in HVAC. It’s our experience. Overall, we're very happy with American Home Shield, which is why we've been with them for so long. We're happy with the service we get. I can’t say we've had a bad experience with anyone who came out. Occasionally, it is difficult to get someone just depending on the time of year and what the problem is.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together.
Have a great day.

The tech that came out for my heating said the compressor went out. He went up there and checked the ducts. He said everything was connected, but it was a poor design as far as the ducts, and that's why the air wasn’t coming through. Then he went outside, said the compressor was bad too. It was just warm in the backside of the house. They hadn't done the repairs yet. They ordered the compressor last week. The technician told me if it didn't come in this past Monday, it will be here Friday. I called them Wednesday and they told me that the part’s supposed to be in today. They informed me as soon as they get their hands on the part, a technician will call and let me know when they will come and put the compressor in. This was the first time I ever had any issues. AHS has done everything I needed them to do for me.

When I filed the claim for a toilet repair, I got someone who could barely speak English. But once we got through the language barrier problem, it wasn't too bad. I was told the contractor would call me within 24 hours. I ended up calling the contractor only to find out that the man who services my area was out with a heart attack. If I didn't do that, nobody would have known. I had to call back and tell American Home Shield what was going on and they got another company. The fellow who came out was excellent. He replaced the guts in the toilet.
American Home Shield needs to get different operators that will speak English a little better. If you're going to offer a service like this, the reps need to be able to communicate effectively. I hate dealing with people that want your business, wanna do the service, but won't communicate with somebody that can speak English properly. I almost thought about canceling the whole thing and going with somebody else.

It is simple to claims get claims via the American Home Shield website. It's hard to figure out how to get a human person on the phone if you have an issue unless you wanna sign up for a new service plan. But once you find someone to help you on the phone, it's pretty simple. Aside from being able to get a person on the phone, everything has been fine. American Home Shield responded really quickly to all of my inquiries and sent someone out immediately even when they had to come back out and redo something. My AC was not blowing air so I needed someone to come out and take a look. Techs fixed it initially but several days later, it broke down again. They are coming back out this week to fix the AC again.

We had a breaker that kept popping. I sent a claim on American Home Shield's webpage, which is an improvement in their process, but it doesn't allow you to put additional stuff into it and there's no way to write in if what is going on isn’t covered in their list of items. Things have not been there that should have been there and you can click “other” but that's it. Then, the tech said that he would contact me or I could call him if I wanted to. After that, he called me and I missed his call. I called him back and we ended up scheduling something a week later.
He was very personable, explained what was going wrong and how he was going to fix it. He also told me whatever parts were needed that he didn't have with him. He had to leave and come back with the parts, but he was back within an hour. Other than that, I've had some problems with AHS in the past. In November, I got a call back from an automated system that did not ask me the appropriate question. They asked me about the person I dealt with on the phone, which if I had to deal with that person daily, it wouldn't happen. I would have called and canceled my policy immediately. That person drove me batty. He was new and wasn't properly trained, so he just kept repeating himself but was still not answering my question. I asked to speak to the supervisor and I never got called back from a supervisor. And that one bad experience kind of overrides every good one I had with AHS.
All in all, depending on the claim, AHS do good on some things, but not so good on others. But they excel in their responsiveness. You can get a contractor out here pretty quickly, within a week, generally speaking. Sometimes two weeks, depending on what it is and that's good. Dealing with issues is a whole other thing, though. If I got a problem with the contractor or they refuse to cover something, but technically within the claim, they were responsible for a portion of it but they refuse to pay for any of it. There's no follow up and they just say they're sorry but they're not going to pay for the claim. It's just a flat out “No,” even though that portion is covered under the policy.
Plus, the people you speak to on the phone when you call need to be better trained and part of it is when you're calling someone about a particular issue, it helps if that person knows something. If I'm calling about my dishwasher, it would be good for them, while I'm on the phone with them, to get the model number if they could, because when a service tech comes out, the first thing they need to know is the model number.
Recently, I had an appliance call where the company call me on the phone asking for the serial number and the model number off my appliance. Then they asked me to tell them what was going wrong. So I had a whole discussion with Sears on the phone then the tech said that he was going to order a part and have it sent to me. Then he asked if we could reschedule for after the part arrives. He said it should arrive within 10 days and to schedule it on day 11. And it turned out perfectly. So knowing that stuff in advance is very helpful, even if it's the contractor aspect. But a lot of times, my thing was previously scheduled online before I even got out of the website for American Home Shield. So they had no idea until they called me.

We have two AC units, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. When our upstairs was not cooling, AHS sent out Anthem Mechanical and the problem had something to do with the compressor. The tech diagnosed it and he had it up and running within 35 minutes. Everything was handled smoothly and I didn't even speak with anybody. I submitted the ticket online and AHS had somebody out here. But it's very difficult to submit claims with AHS. There's a language barrier with the representatives where I don't think they understand what I'm asking for and I have to repeat myself for two or three times.
One time, our pool pump was not filling completely, so we called the home warranty. They sent out their recommended pool service and they came out twice. A young kid originally said that everything was fine but you could see that my pump was shaking. I told him that something was wrong with the filter, so he replaced the lid, thinking that it might have been the lid. But it wasn't the lid. He said that with Hayward, these pumps don't fill up all the way, but I told him that they do. My pool guy has been servicing our pool for over 10 years and we've only been at this house for three years. You can tell that our filter was laboring.
Long story short, he said there was no issue that they could find on their side. He recommended that we have our lines, which are underground lines, blown because there may be a blockage. He said they don't do that, our home warranty was not going to cover it, and we'd have to hire another company. So, that was what we did and as soon as the other company came, he said that our lines weren't clogged because our filter was at zero. And he showed me we had three leaks on the outside, which would have been covered by the warranty. So I called the home warranty to see because this company that they sent out twice really didn't want to diagnose an issue, when this pool service company came and found three issues just staring at it right off the bat.
I tried to get my 140 reimbursed and they submitted a ticket to have it researched. I didn't hear anything back for about two to three business days, then I called back, spoke with another representative, and experienced another language barrier. She kept repeating what I was saying, but not understanding. Then I asked if she could please bring up the notes from the previous representative but there were no notes from the previous representative. So it didn't even look like I had called. She then had to submit another claim to have it researched and at that point, I was frustrated. I asked to speak with the supervisor and she said they didn't have any.
I told her that she had to have somebody above her and that I just needed to speak with somebody that could understand what was going on. Finally, she said they had somebody and put me on hold. Then she said they were going to reimburse us our $75 service fee and they'd research to reimburse us the $140. She said they'd get back to us within 24 to 48 hours and that was last week. I still haven't heard from them. So I feel like I'm going in circles. I was going to give it until Friday to see if I would hear back from them but I'm a little bit leery because there was no ticket issued originally. And if I call back again, I don't know if there's going to be any notes on hand.
It's not even really about the money, it's more the principle of it. They're not addressing the issue and even if I didn't get reimbursed, they could just follow up with us to say that they looked into it and unfortunately, they couldn't reimburse us. I just recommended my parents to go through AHS and I forewarned them that when you have to submit a service request, there is a bit of a language barrier. But overall, I've been satisfied with the service that I received with regard to repairs.

I love the technician from A-Us Air Conditioning Of Texas that came out that time and he did a great job. What I don't like is that I had that same company come out a month earlier to go through my entire system, and they were supposed to check the part that was broken, and they didn't do it. Within 30 days, my air conditioner went out and the part that they replaced was rusted out. It didn't rust out in 30 days, I'm not stupid. They didn't even look at it. I was a week without air conditioning during a pretty busy time so I was not happy with the company at all. They've been terrible.
Then I can't get ahold of anybody at American Home Shield to tell them that. Nobody answers the phone. I'm mad at them because they were the ones that sold me this preventative check. Also, they don't have anybody that can make a decision when I call them. I've tried to talk to a supervisor. Miraculously, the whole company is run without a single manager or supervisor in the entire place. Crazy. I’ve already made the decision to switch, I’ve already paid for the other one.

We were hearing a squealing noise. We didn't know if it was in the pipes initially, but then, we could hear it pretty well in one of our bathrooms. Once a particular toilet was flushed, the noise would go away but we couldn't determine what was causing the noise. When United Air Temp came out initially, it wasn't making a noise so there wasn't anything that they could do. It started back happening shortly after. I was able to record it. They came out, checked several things, and they figured out that the valve needed to be replaced. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield and getting United Air Temp to come out were easy. But I think that there is a limitation on describing what's going on because once the guy came out, I had to explain everything. The only thing I could do on the AHS site was select “toilet”. Preferred Climate Heating & Cooling called my husband and said, “We don't do ductwork,” when he should have called AHS to let them know. So that's where the problem is. We're just trying to get somebody to come in and do some ductwork for us. Every time I try to call AHS, I don't get an answer. I get a voicemail. I had somebody come out and fix my AC. Each time technicians come out, they do whatever they need to do to get the unit going. It works okay for a while then it starts freezing up then leaking again. I call them to come back out. I had somebody come out again last week. The first group that came took an hour to reach the house. After they supposedly finished, the AC would come on at that point but it wasn't cooling. It took the technicians an hour to keep calling back to their home base to figure out what it was that they hadn't done or what it was that they needed to do. That was really strange.
They couldn't quite figure out what was wrong with the AC and they kept calling back and going back and forth, in and out for about an hour. Finally, somebody told them what needed to happen and they did that. They finally got the AC to cool. Other than that experience, everybody that came out was professional. They wore masks and were respectful of my property.
Owning my own property as a single woman, something goes down a lot of times. American Home Shield has done different things that I needed. They've been a good thing for me. I have somebody that I can call and say I need something fixed. There was a time when technicians came out and did electrical work for me. One time, a gentleman had to come back a few times to fix my dryer because it was older. He had to order a part. For three days, he came back and he was still very professional. He got my dryer going and till now, it's still going. I didn't have to pay an additional $100 because it was for the same issue that the gentleman was coming back out for.
I am happy with American Home Shield. My son-in-law and my daughter bought a house and their home warranty is horrible. I told them that with American Home Shield, all I have to do is go online. I pay $100 because that's the plan that I purchased and they send somebody out. I have recommended them to people before. I tell them to go to their website and sign up. I also tell people how easy it is for me. I can pick up the phone and give American Home Shield a call and set up a time. They are very responsive. If I go online and say that I need somebody to come out, I get a call within the next day or so from a technician. I have always had a good experience with the technicians that came out.
