The thermostat wasn't turning on. A guy from Service Pro Heating and Air came and cleaned out the drain which fixed the issue. He was great, really friendly and very professional. The claim submission process with American Home Shield is very easy and my experience was pretty good.

Our refrigerator would still turn on but it wouldn't cool. I did the claim to American Home Shield over the internet and the website was super user-friendly. I was given a lead time and then they said that the contractor would call the day before that he was gonna come and let me know when he was gonna come out. The technician was great, super knowledgeable and told me exactly what he was doing. He called American Home Shield when he was at the house and he stated that he was gonna get some parts ordered. They were gonna send them to my home and that he would come back out in a couple of weeks and fix it. Since then, the refrigerator is like it’s new.

I've used American Home Shield twice and they were good both times. Recently, the AC was leaking through my ceiling. It was stopped up. It was later that night when I sent the claim in and the technician was out the next day. He was very quick, maybe 45 minutes at best.

There was a clogged line on our AC and I tried to do it myself, but I couldn't figure out how to get it cleared out. Condensation was forming and it drains out from the unit in the attic outside. I made a request online and it was easy. However, I was to the point where I was getting ready to call to find out whether or not the request had been submitted and received. It would've been helpful if there was a way that they could let me know, "Hey, we got this, and you'll hear from somebody within 24 or 48 hours." At least that way, I'll know that they're on it, it'll happen and I'll hear from somebody. Eventually, I was heard and it was fine.

It was fairly easy talking to someone about the claim. But now, I have to pay the deductible before the people even come out. I shouldn’t have to pay until they come out and fix it. That was how it used to be, but they changed it.

I had a very bad experience. I spent the day on the phone with the Philippines. They were busy checking it ‘cause my mother-in-law's unit on my house has always been under the same policy and they said it isn't. They’re getting a second opinion and they're waiting in the Philippines. I know that it's on the policy but it was like talking to a wall. I don't want a second opinion. I don't need to especially for a $1,100 a year policy. I don't need to be aggravated like that. I never really had a problem with the customer service that day. They were trying, but it was just ridiculous with the Philippines. I've had American Home Shield on and off for almost 20 years. I have two other houses in the valley that I have on it as well. One is supposed to renew this month and I'm not doing it. There's one from January that I'm gonna cancel too. They are very expensive.
Good evening Judy,
On behalf of American Home Shield, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience we caused you and your family. Thank you for the time that you did trust us to take care of your systems and appliances in your home. We will definitely be using your review to make our services better. We had a leaky pipe and we weren't sure where it was coming from. I called American Home Shield and then they got in touch with United Air and sent them out. United Air came out here and they did what they needed to do. They were very, very good. They snaked out the pipes. My kitchen floor has gotten ruined because of it because we've got wood floors in the kitchen. We're not gonna replace that until we're positively sure that this leak is no longer there. But they think they've gotten it fixed now.
Sometimes, I have not been satisfied at all with AHS. Casey's Appliance came out to work on a dishwasher and it went on for months. I did not have a dishwasher for five months. It was absolutely ridiculous. They would call and say they had the part. But they would get out here and they'd have the wrong part. Then they have to reorder the part. They would show up two hours late and no phone call. So I was not happy with them at all. I told them I never want them to come out here again. But for the most part, the contractors that AHS sent out here worked out well.

My dishwasher was leaking water from underneath. A tech with Arizona Value Appliance came, took the dishwasher completely apart then put it back together. He didn't communicate very much so it was hard to ask him any questions. It was like he wanted to do his job and that was it, which was totally fine. At the end, he left a piece of paper that said the company would call when the parts were in and he would be back. He came back but I had to leave that day due to an appointment. When I got back, everything was done and completed. It was great and everything is working fine.

The dryer was making a noise when it was drying. The first time, the young man came out and said he needed to replace the drum. He ordered the part, came back later and replaced that. It worked but a day or two or days later, the dryer wouldn’t start. But if you open the door and close it back, it would start. Then it stopped working altogether at one point. After it stopped, I had already called back to American Home Shield and Fixx My Appliance. The guy called and said he’d be there between 8:00 and 12:00. Not even five minutes later, Fixx My Appliance called to confirm my appointment at 1:00 to 5:00 the next day but they didn’t get to my house until 9:30 P.M. I called and kept calling. I got the after-hours people and they said they were still doing rounds.
The young man said it was the start button. He came back another time with the start button and that didn’t work. Whatever start button he put on there didn’t fit. It was like he was trying to put a penny or nickel inside of a quarter. When another guy came out, he had put the black tape on there and ordered a control panel. Each time, they sent somebody else different to come out. It was the fifth time and the guy said he had to order a new start button again. I told him they did that the time before he got here. By this time, it was over two months and it was getting ridiculous.
I’m right on my third month calling back and forth between American Home Shield and Fixx My Appliance trying to get this resolved. When I called American Home Shield and I’ll take it it's because of the COVID, I had to hold for an hour. I talked to somebody about my situation and they said to let them call Fixx My Appliance. They called them and they said they didn’t have the part. The very first two times, Fixx My Appliance must have ordered the part. The third time, American Home Shield ordered the part. At one point, the young lady said to go ahead and let the part come. If it didn’t work, they could replace the dryer.
With Fixx My Appliance, the young man was saying the part was in Ellenwood. Ellenwood is 20 minutes from my house. It could not be in Ellenwood for three days. He said to wait till September 4th. I called back and they said to wait till September 8th. I called back on the 8th and there was still nothing. What I did today was I put Fixx My Appliance and American Home Shield on the phone at the same time.
I’ve been escalating the issue for the longest. I was on the phone again today for two hours. It’s getting frustrating. Every time I call, I got to wait. I call and I’m on hold. By the time they pick up, it’s an hour and a half and I go through the whole process. This doesn’t make any sense. I'm not trying to steal anything or take anything. It’s an inconvenience for us. With this virus, you have to wash clothes and clean the house constantly. We have to go back and forth to the laundry before I go to work and before I come home to the house. I'm being frustrated because sometimes I call and they say they'll call back. The automation line says, “Just press this button and you’d get a call back. You’ll be in line in the queue.” But they never called me back.
This is my second iffy contractor. Years ago, when I first had a plumbing issue, the contractor went to the bathroom and back and flushed the toilet. I overheard him tell the young lady at American Home Shield, “I changed this little flap thing inside the toilet tank,” but he didn’t do it. I called and said, “He didn’t do that. Can I get somebody?" The rep said, “No, you have to make sure that was the same contractor.” I called back and the owner of the plumbing company came out but he didn’t do anything to it. My water bill became 300 something dollars. I called Roto-Rooter and I paid them.
But above all, American Home Shield is still being good to me. I call them all the time and their contractors come. I had a contractor come out last week for a plumbing issue. I call ‘cause you can’t choose online who you’d like to come to your house. I asked if I could get a certain plumber ‘cause I’ve had them before and I know they’re gonna do a great job. I recommend them to people who don’t even have American Home Shield or I’ve had people who joined American Home Shield.

We've only put in a single claim and it was to have a plumber or a water heater specialist come out and look at our tankless water heater that had stopped working a couple of days after we moved in. My wife just went online, submitted the claim, and scheduled an appointment to have one of the AHS contractors come out and visit us The contractor who came was very knowledgeable. He sort of went above and beyond in helping us figure out what the issue was.
Ultimately, it was not something he could assist us with 'cause it wasn't the water heater that was the problem. It was the exhaust system that the contractor had built for the HVAC systems. He was able to help us figure that out and we were very grateful to have him here. My understanding is that AHS won't cover it so I'm dealing separately with the contractor who put the HVAC system in there. Overall, AHS has been great. It was very easy to schedule everything and the technician they sent out was wonderful so we were very happy.

I had a problem with the garbage disposal on the kitchen sink. I submitted a claim with AHS and the technician they sent out assessed the problem. He was able to fix it but he did not change any part and I don't know what he did. It's been working since then though, so I was very happy with his work. At that time, the showerheads were also sprinkling a lot of water, so he fixed those too. But for those, he got parts and changed the showerheads because they were really bad. He was great and so was AHS.

I call American Home Shield when I have a service request and it is near impossible to get my needs are across to the customer service and for them to try to find someone to come out. There is also no upper management that you can refer yourself to. For a recent claim, our technician was from Walker Refrigeration. This is the second time that AHS has called out this company and they have not even shown up nor return any calls. There hasn't been any type of courtesy whatsoever. I have an open claim right now and they have been the worst. I live in a area of Laredo, Texas where it's 100 degrees every day. AHS has yet to provide me with another appliance knowing that mine has broken down. Never again with AHS. I wouldn't give them a fair chance anymore.

I had a positive experience in using Home Shield and the turnaround time was definitely timely. The Jim Thrift tech was able to repair the ice machine. Part of the problem was it had a clogged filter, but then he was able to assess what was going on and then identify what I needed to do. I replaced the filter on my own, but then he did a bunch of other stuff to get it running smoothly again.

The contractor for the air conditioning was great. He had used the last motor he had in his truck so he had to run over, get one, come back and reassemble it. The air conditioner’s been working fine. I did the claim to American Home Shield online and I liked the website. It’s very easy to get through and I’ve got it bookmarked. It was quick and easy. The reps from AHS texted me that the claim had been assigned. Then, I got a text message from the company. They called and gave me an approximate time when they were gonna be there, and the technician was within that time frame. The repair made my condo much cooler since the motor was now working. It was a great experience with AHS and they were awesome.

There was a fuse on the inside that had blown next to where the Freon holds and it blew a hole. All of the Freon still inside of the AC leaked. The guy from Abilene Comfort came out and he had to put 50 gallons of the Freon back in. Then he had to replace two bolts, one on the inside of the house, and one on the outside. He went inside of the home when I wasn't inside. Then he wore a mask both inside and outside. It turned out great. I absolutely love American Home Shield. Every time I've called, everyone's been super helpful and nice.

When I called American Home Shield to tell them about my air conditioning unit, it was difficult because at first, they couldn't send anybody out at all. They then said that I could try to find someone myself and I tried to get somebody, but that didn't work out. Another gal with American Home Shield, Danielle from Phoenix, ended up calling me and telling me that they had an appointment for me. They were gonna send Allright Mechanical out to go ahead and fix my unit.
Both of the guys who came were very nice men, and they repaired my air conditioning unit fast. They put a new capacitor in and that was it. The young guy who first came out didn't have a mask, so I said, "You have to put a mask on." He immediately did that and he was very polite and sweet. Overall, American Home Shield is a really good company and I'm very happy.

The air conditioner was not blowing cold. We got a Home Shield packet that had a website. So, I went into the website and made sure I put in our information for our Home Shield warranty account. I had options to narrow the issue down. So I just picked the air conditioning. After I followed all the prompts, the Home Shield website asked us to pay the $75 and they would get us connected to a company in my neighborhood. So I just paid online.
Home Shield gave us E and A, and they said that E and A would be reaching out to us. I waited for 24 hours. Then our status on Home Shield said that they were unable to reach me so I had to contact E and A. So, I was tripping a little bit because I never got any missed calls or anything. I double-checked my phone number and it was correct. I didn't get any voice messages from E and A. So, I was not sure how they tried to contact me any different than what was on my Home Shield website.
We live out here in LA. And it was the first heatwave. So I was trying to be patient. Meanwhile, my wife was four and a half months pregnant and wanted to get the AC fixed. I reached out to E and A from the information provided on the Home Shield website after that status was updated. I couldn't get through to a real person. It went straight to voice message. It said to leave them a message and they'd get back to us in 24 hours. So it was another 24-hour wait. I left a message at 4 PM, and the next day 4 pm, I got a phone call from them that said that the earliest that they could send somebody out was gonna be Monday since that was a Friday. Saturday and Sunday were a little hot as well. But their technician was very professional, polite, and friendly. He got to work immediately. He asked me a couple of questions to do some things with our thermostats, and then he just fixed the problem. He was great.
So far, our AC has been blowing cold. My wife is very happy. I told her to use it to make sure that the thing was working. We got the second heatwave here in LA, so it was 112 degrees where we live. So, I was happy that the AC was blowing cold. We've been able to keep the house at 78 - 79 degrees out here. So, that's really good. I was happy with everything once it was happening.

RG Plumbing & Rooter brought a whole new setup for a sprayer on the sink and I wanted them to put it in. I've had problems with it before and we got a new one and we put it in there but they keep cracking. I thought the one that he had could be of better quality. But he said all he had to do was fix the sprayer part. He fixed the old nozzle and he put that old piece back in. And I didn't think that was right. Also, it was a $100 service call. I could've done that through Home Depot and it wouldn't have cost me 100 bucks. He unscrewed the sprayer from the hose to try and put the new sprayer and it didn't fit. I kept trying to explain to him I wanted a whole new sprayer put in. I don't think I should’ve had to go through this whole dog and pony show just to get it, and I still didn't get it.
Then, I got an email saying that I never paid the $100 deductible. But I did. Home Shield asked me to pay the service call charge and give them my credit card number and everything on an automated system without setting up an appointment date for me or talking to me in person. I didn't like the fact that I had to do that and then they would notify me and tell me that it was never paid. I'm checking out my credit card bill to see if I get charged. And I gave them all my credit card information, why did they not bill it to my account? They take out my $50 every month. Other than that, I was happy with American Home Shield when I had my stove fixed.

We have two air conditioning units and the thermostat on one of them went out and the one downstairs just wasn't cooling. I went online to file a claim with AHS and the website is okay but they don't give a place to request to not send a certain company. The first time we had air conditioner problems at this house, AHS sent out a company that didn't know what they were doing. They tried to charge us a whole lot of money for some work that they wanted to do and I didn't feel good about them at all. I didn't want AHS to send those people out and I wanted to request for Douglas Mechanical because they had worked on the AC. But Douglas Mechanical came out and they were easy to talk to. They came really quick and did what I asked them to do.
Also, AHS is replacing my dishwasher but I have GE Monogram appliances in my house and they're replacing it with very cheap GE appliances. They gave me a buyout of $587 for the dishwasher and a GE Monogram dishwasher is more like 2,000. It's not the same thing but I understand that my dishwasher was older. I still don't have the check for it but it should be arriving any minute, they said. They're going to replace my refrigerator also and they're gonna do me the same way.
Then, one time, we had plumber guys come and I told them that the sink was leaking when they were here. They said I have to do another work order and trip charge. Even though he was standing right there, he couldn't work on the faucet because I didn't say faucet on the original work order. Other than that, I'm so grateful that I have the policy and it's been pretty good with AHS. When I have to call them on the phone, I might have to wait an hour or two. But now they let me give them a number and they call me back. I still might have to wait a couple of hours but at least I'm not sitting there with my cell phone thinking they're going to call me back every minute.

We live in the mountains. He had to come from Spokane which was 100 miles away. But he was able to come out immediately. Everything is perfect now. He did an excellent job. I've got four places with American Home Shield and I've had them about eight months on that house. I used to have another warranty for many years and then I switched all of them to American Shield.

The one thing I like about American Home Shield is that they're competent. There's just one thing though. It takes so long now, which is understandable too with this virus thing going on and if we get past that, I'm fine with them. I called in for my air conditioner and the State Heating & Air Conditioning technician replaced a part on there. He was nice, but I had asked him, "Hey, since you're here, could you check my Freon and make sure it's charged up good." He said, "Oh, no, but you don't need that." Now, a week or two later, I would wet my hand and put it at a vent and it’s not as cold as it was. I told my wife, “that should be colder in there.” If I call American Home Shield up, there will be a $100 charge when they come back. Other than that, the technician was a good guy. As he worked, we got on a conversation together and he was polite.

The garage door opened, but then when I wanted to shut it, it wouldn't shut. I'd never had a garage door opener, so I didn't even know anything about garage door openers. I didn't know what to do. I found out that what happened was I blocked a sensor with something, so it was no big deal. The biggest surprise to me was that I had to pay Home Shield $75 because I didn't order it. The real estate agent did. I didn't have any understanding of what the whole deal was, that I would have to pay somebody to come out. I thought I'd call and the contractor would come out and fix it, and then that was it.
To pay $75 and just had somebody come out and say, "You screwed up," wasn't cool. Other than that, I would recommend Home Shield because if you're moving into a new home, you should protect yourself. This is my second one in 34 years. My nephew said, "This is a new home for you, so get American Home Shield." I thought he should know what he's talking about. He bought three houses. So I said, "Yeah, okay, I guess he's right."

It took about 3 months to get my air conditioner fixed but finally it has been fixed and problem is resolved and I do plan to renew my contract with AHS.
Original Review: Sept. 12, 2020
We started out with having a heating and air person come out from AMP. And they said, "There's nothing wrong with the air conditioner." And then I said, "Well, there is something wrong with the air conditioner because it went off again." So, then they came back out again. They said, "Well, it's not the problem with the air conditioning. It's with the electric." So, Ideal Electric came out. We only had one electrician company come out. They said there was nothing wrong with the electrical part. Then the air condition man came back out again. And it was just back and forth. The air condition people say it's not the air conditioner, and then the electric people say it's not the electric.
Finally, I requested a second opinion with a different company with the air conditioning. They came out and said, "Oh, yeah, the compressor. Condenser needs to be replaced." I said, "Okay." But Home Shield did not order a new compressor. That company actually sent it back to Home Shield, and then it went back to the original people. I don't even know how many times those people have come out. So, after the second opinion came out, Home Shield sent it back to the original heating and air person, who I don't trust now at all. I guess they decided they weren't gonna do anything. We're sitting here since July the 21st with no electric. I've had phone calls with Home Shield and waiting in line for an hour and 30 minutes every time.
Ideal Electric took the compressor apart and they showed me. And then a person from air condition and heating said, "Yes, it needs to be replaced." They even took pictures of what was wrong with it and gave it to Home Shield. Obviously, it needed to be replaced because it's still not working. I hope that the condenser has been ordered. I was told by the last people that came out, that they ordered it. I was hoping to hear something back this week, but I have not heard anything back about the condenser being replaced. It doesn't work even a bit. You can't turn it on. No matter what you do, it's broken.
I don't know the status right now, because I thought I would hear something back this weekend. I have not heard anything from anyone. I'm still in a situation with not having heating and air. At first, I was told it would take two weeks to a month. I don't even know what to do now. But sometimes I call Home Shield and they act like it's gonna be taken care of. My husband is 71 years old and not in very good health. It has been very difficult. I never had a problem with Home Shield before. So, this time, it has just been a problem. I'm very dissatisfied because the problem has not been fixed.
The first couple of times someone came out, they did not do anything. So, then I started sitting out there to watch. The tech didn’t do anything with the air conditioner. He took it apart, and he showed me what was broken. And then he had me sign a receipt, which said everything was fixed. I said, "Well, I need for you to write on here what is broken." He didn't seem to be too happy with my request, but he put it on there. He put what was broken. He did not seem to be happy by me requesting that he actually write down what was wrong. There was part of the compressor that was broken. So, from now on, I will be very careful about what I sign. And he did not put my carbon copy underneath the original. He wrote it on my paper and then he wrote something else on his paper. I asked him if he would put the carbon paper underneath the original, but he didn't. I'm not happy with the AMP.
The electric company that came out was very nice, but overall, Home Shield does not seem to be very interested in getting my air conditioner fixed. And for all I know, they may not even have ordered the condenser. I'm so tired of calling Home Shield and not really getting anywhere with that. I plan to renew my Home Shield because it has been very good in the past, but this time, it has not been good. I'm not gonna stop calling to get this thing fixed. But I should not have to do this. I should not have to be on hold for an hour and a half and still not have air. It’s very hard.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

The contractor that came for our AC unit was very nice. I asked him about something. He said, "I can adjust that for you. That's no problem." He went up and adjusted it. He said, "There you go. No problem." I said, "Thank you." 'Cause I'm disabled. I'm not allowed on ladders anymore or steps. He went back up in the attic, did it for me and came back down. It was something that has to do with what he was messing with. I like the way that AHS is very simple for me to go online and do a claim. I'm really pissed off. When I called American Home Shield yesterday morning, they told me the inside was covered and the outside was not. An hour and a half later, they told my son-in-law that the whole thing was denied and I have to pay double what I thought. So I called and talked to a supervisor today and I straightened it out, but I won't believe it till I see it. The frustration has been so bad, including the fact that whenever you call you have hours to hold. I work so I can't be on hold for two hours. It's been horrible. In the last two months, I've not been able to use my kitchen to eat or prepare food. Somebody was supposed to call me to report on the plumbing and how it was resolved last night between 5:00 and 6:00. But they didn't call.
My other claims were resolved within a normal amount of time. But I had another claim that they screwed me on. In August, I had my air conditioning break down and it took five days to repair it. I filed a service request but I could not file it in person because the wait time was three hours. So I filed it on their automated system, which did not tell me that if it was urgent, I should call them first and then wait three hours on hold. I had to go to a hotel because I have a five year old in the family and a sick daughter. We were in a hotel for five days until they were able to move back in. All they would reimburse me for was a hotel for $100. It wasn't my fault that it took five days. No one told me I had to do the claim in person. I would have done it even though it would have meant staying on the phone for the whole day.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

American Home Shield out a plumbing company for my claim and they took care of my issue. However, they gave me a report that was completely different from what was given to American Home Shield. Also, it was three to four weeks before Home Shield reached out and told me what the first plumbing company said. So, I disputed that and AHS sent out a second plumbing company a few days later.
The plumber from there came out and did the estimate. He said that what was quoted by the first plumber was way too high and that plumber was trying to do a lot of unnecessary work. It has been two weeks since the second plumber came and still, nothing has been fixed. So far, I've used Home Shield's warranty three times. One was for drainage that had to be unclogged in my bathroom and the other was fora problem in my kitchen. For my kitchen problem, AHS covered some of it but I had to cover a major chunk out of pocket. Still, their warranty is definitely helpful to have.

We've been with American Home Shield for over 20 years and it's been great. Leak Seekers came for a leak around the base of the toilet. They were great. They were on time, prompt and took care of the problem. Now, we don't have to worry about a leak that could damage the foundation.

I put a claim in for two ceiling fans that were outdoor on my back patio which is part of my foundation. When I called in, I told AHS that it was on the back porch. They said there was no problem, took the $100 payment, and sent an electrician out who said that the fans need to be replaced. Then, AHS came back saying that they couldn't cover it because the fans were on the patio. That kind of pissed me off as I told them before that they were on the patio. The guy should not have opened the ticket and should have told me that if that was the case instead of taking $100, because now, they won't give it back.
Other than that, the only other claim I filed with AHS went fine. It was for the dryer and it was an overdrive. Since I couldn't wait two weeks for them to get a replacement, I had to go out and buy one. I have three kids so I had to do laundry. After I bought one, I told AHS that I wanted to do the cashout and they wrote me a check.
I would share both my experiences with other people to let them decide. The one with the fans was a crappy one and makes me decide if I want to switch and go to a different company. It's a really big one and these fans are $300 apiece. And AHS didn't even tell me that my claim was denied, I just got an email saying that the ticket was closed. Then I got a letter two weeks later saying that it wasn't covered. When I called in, I explained to them the situation and they said they have to go and check out the recordings. They said they'd call me back but no one ever called back or did anything. Then they sent another letter saying that they were not going to cover the replacement. I would be fine with them not covering if they would refund my $100 back and I would love it if they would call me to work through this.
Good evening Thomas,
I apologize that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory. I have sent an email to you hoping to engage more toward a resolution for your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

When I signed up with American Home Shield, I didn't realize that I would still have to pay out of pocket each time something went wrong. Still, paying $100 in copay is not a big deal in the larger scheme of things. American Home Shield has pushed for later dates though and it took two weeks for my leaking dishwasher to get looked at. I had to keep using towels until the appointment date came. Most recently, the contractors they sent for my AC unit, Loganville Heating and Air came after three weeks. They were nice and they were good at what they did. The techs even put in my air filter for me.

We kept our distance and let them do their work. They just stayed right where they were working. Then all of a sudden, it stopped working. The company came when they called and they fixed the issue. The AC was broken and the request was put in. The guy from Perry Mechanical came in. He diagnosed the problem. He said that the problem had to do with a line set leak and he told AHS about it. Then AHS came back and told me that the line set leak was not something that would be covered as part of my warranty. So they told me that I needed to go out and find my own contractor to fix it. Then I had to go find somebody who would look at the problem. This guy told me that there was no leak in there and that it was just a simple blown capacitor. He went ahead and replaced the capacitor.
I paid $100 for the first guy to come in through AHS. The guy from Perry Mechanical just went ahead and misdiagnosed the problem and closed the ticket. Then AHS didn't do anything about it because it was not covered according to what the diagnosis was by the first guy. Then I paid $230 for the next guy when it should have been all done in $100. Now, in total, I paid $330. So, that was pretty much the bottom line of what happened with that particular ticket. It did not go well at all.
Unfortunately, this happened in the middle of summer and it was extremely hot in Florida. Then we had to go through a pretty bad time. But 90% of the cases, the contractors were pretty good and smart in my 11 years of experience with Home Shield. I also never really had a reason to recall them for whatever reason it may be. Also, filing a claim is pretty easy. Their website is pretty good about it. I just go on the site and select the service request and file the claim. That's pretty straightforward.

The first time the contractors came out for our AC, they said the low-pressure switch had tripped. I asked them what caused that to happen. He said he didn't know, but that there was a 30-day recall in case the air conditioner stopped working again. About a week later, it quit working again and they sent Extreme Heating & Air out and he said it was some low voltage wire that needed to be replaced.
The technician told me the air conditioner was running properly. I said, "No, it's not." He said, "I can't do anything about it until the system completely stops because American Home Shield won't let me replace it until we've replaced every part in there." He left, I didn't sign his paper at that time and I called my regular heating maintenance people. They were out within an hour. The guy was there for 10 minutes and said, "I can see your problem immediately right here. I can hear it squealing. The outside fan motor is seizing up and it quits. Then, when it cools down, it'll start up again, but it's not blowing cool air." I said, "What do I need to do?" He said, "I can order you a new motor and fan blade. I would get it expedited here and get it in for you as quickly as I can." AHS should take Extreme Heating & Air off of their warranty program.

One of the men came up to my bathroom and turned the water on and got the sign up. There was a lot of rust in my pipes that I didn't know about. He told me not to turn it on and I told him I won’t have to turn the water on at all. He told me to just wait till today to turn it in and when I did, the water came out clear because he had run all this rust out.

Submitting claims to American Home Shield on the phone has been terrible. In the couple of times that I've called, I was on hold for almost 30 minutes before I was able to get a customer service person on the phone. Once I had them on the phone, it took another 20 or 30 minutes just to get my claim finalized with them. That's way too time-consuming and it needs to be streamlined. Still, submitting online has been fairly simple and AHS gets somebody notified fairly quickly.
I had issues with an air conditioner and Home Shield sent somebody out to my location. The tech said that my air conditioner was working fine. Within three days, it went kaput and we had to replace it. That was frustrating. Also, I didn't realize that the home warranty covered a portion of the replacement. I had somebody replace my unit and was out a couple of thousand dollars that would have been covered if had called the home warranty.
More recently, OBX Garage Doors came out for the garage door claim I submitted to AHS. The tech who was sent was very professional. He went over everything involving the garage door with us. It took him a little bit to find the garage door opener we needed but once he was able to locate it, he came back and installed it. Everything went fine.

Recently, a tech from Ace's Garage Door Repair came out and he was very informative. It was the thing at the front of the garage door that had broken and I didn't even notice that.
He explained to me why my garage door was not running as fast as it should and that the Genie that I was using to open the garage door, the clicker, was the wrong clicker in the car. He was also a very nice guy and he had a mask on while he was here. But I wasn't too happy about that dang old garage door because I had to pay 400 dollars since what I needed wasn’t covered by my warranty. The original time I had Complete Air come out, my AC had issues. It was leaking. I've always had a leak around. I don't know where it was coming from, but I've always had some type of leak so we had a towel down there. So, we had them come out. Their guy looked at it, and he said that our drainage pipe was clogged and that we needed to have it cleaned really well. I said okay, but he said that the maintenance plan wasn't covered under my insurance. That was gonna be something that was gonna cost extra. So, I called up American Home Shield to make sure and they said that certain things wasn't covered under my policy. The guy went outside. He said that it was a contact that was messed up as well with the AC. They had some ants in it. So, he had to replace that. But they said that because it was outside damage or something to do with the insects, I had to pay out-of-pocket. I had to pay $100 and some for that.
I was also told that my coils were really messed up, and that I needed to get people come in here and clean and get some basic maintenance. But American Home Shield didn't cover that, and they offered some kinda program where they could come out and do maintenance on my AC for me twice a year and make sure that basic maintenance was being taken care of. They said since I had the AC unit for so long, I might wanna do that.
Since American Home Shield has sent them to me, I figured that they were reputable. So, I got the extended insurance on both units. They scheduled my cleaning to come out and clean the coils. When they came out to clean the coils, they said that I had a hole in one of the coils. So, that's where the water was coming from. It was leaking fluid from inside the AC unit. It had nothing to do with the cleaning when they cleaned out the water lines. It was just that I had a hole in it. But they couldn't see it because it was on the backside of the coil.
When they started cleaning, that's how they found it. That was how I got to this whole point of getting the coils replaced. They called me and said that I would have to get all new Freon put into the thing. So, that's why it was like $750 that I was gonna have to pay out-of-pocket. I’ve been paying out-of-pocket for stuff for the past couple of services with this AC unit. I was hoping that this will be the last time. If I get this coil taken care of, then I could kinda get some closure because I had to use my credit card. I’m a disabled veteran and it’s real tight right now.
My parents has been with American Home Shield since they were in New York, and we've always had them. I've had them since 2014. The convenience of having American Home Shield was really knowing that I could call and have somebody that was gonna deal with that particular issue and have some expertise instead of me calling around and trying to find somebody reputable.

They replaced a bunch of stuff and then did some maintenance on it. Everything's working fine. It’s a small unit compared to the size of the house that I have. It’s functioning, but it’s not cooling. They told me that it’s working as well as it can for the size of the house. Our recent claim with AHS went beautifully. Sam, the owner of Rainbow Electric, came out at least three times. One time, we hired him separately to do electrical work. He was very efficient. When he says he's gonna be here, he’s here. For our personal work, he was reasonable and he did a good job compared to some bad electrical work we have had done. So I really appreciate him.
This last time, AHS arranged another electrical company, and I'm not sure quite where they were located. But for days, nobody contacted me. I had their phone number. I contacted them and it was going nowhere so I got back in touch with American Home Shield and requested Rainbow. He’s somebody you can depend on. When it’s first set up, he calls you immediately. The service of AHS is very good. We're very appreciative of them. The last two problems we've had, it had been a little bit frustrating though. They've got a new answering setup in a foreign country and it was really difficult to get our point across. American Home Shield advertises themselves as same day service but when I called in for the appointment for the initial request, it took them 10 days to schedule me. I waited the full 10 days and they sent a technician. I explained the problem and he said to me rather shortly on his way out the door that he changed the airflow and that it’s fine. It was never fine. Once the air conditioning gets to be about 85 degrees outside, the airflow doesn't cool the house. So, I called this company back and the person that I spoke with was screaming at me. He said I didn't understand how complicated these things are. Then he gave me a 7:00 to 9:00 time frame the next morning and the technicians didn't get here till 9:30. They don't open till 9:00 but I was up and ready at 7:00.
That second group came and they couldn't figure it out either. They said there was nothing wrong with it but I said that cool air comes out but there's not enough of a flow to bring the temperature down. So, he said that was overheating and they would have to replace the furnace and the air conditioner. It's all one unit. I called AHS and told them that if they get a work order from them to replace the whole thing, we would need to get a second opinion. I'm not a mechanic. I'm a clinical psychologist. But whatever's wrong with it should not require the replacement of a full HVAC system.
I got a text from AHS saying that the work was complete and asked me to rate same day service. That was the first sign it was complete. I still thought they were gonna propose to replace the whole nine yards. So, the AC is still broken and that company is a sham. I have people I've worked with here over the years for my heating and air conditioning that maintain it that are much higher quality.

I had First American Home Warranty before and I could never get them on the phone although it may be a Coronavirus thing. I just got aggravated with trying to get ahold of them. Then I saw American Home Shield advertised on TV and went with it. Recently, there was a leak in the bottom of the tank where the water comes in and out with that little bolt area. It connects to the tubing for the water to drain in and out of the toilet. That was all messed up, weak and corroded, rusted. The guy from Air Pro Master came and he replaced all the bottom of it. He made sure there was no leak before he left. It was a good service.

Sears came out and they immediately found what the problem was and fixed it. They had masks on and gloves too. The heating element had gone out. They had it with them and they replaced mine. In less than an hour, we were up and running again. We're very happy with Home Shield. I got it last year and had to call them this year a couple of times. I like them better than I do Fidelity National. They just have to be more courteous and professional about how they go about things.

I got Home Shield when I bought the house that I live in 10 years ago now predominantly for the heating unit because it was nearing the end of its life. A couple years ago, we had it go out and we got everything taken care of. I'm pretty happy with their service. I had a clogged drain issue with the AC and Johnson HVAC were able to fix it in 10 or 15 minutes so it was nice, easy, and pretty straightforward. They were great. They've done some work for us through Home Shield.
But Home Shield's new automated menu is a little obnoxious. It's kind of difficult to get where I needed to get. I tried online and for some reason, that didn't recognize my account or something else. I went with the phone number and I was able to get the service scheduled but it's been a couple of weeks now. It was along the lines of taking longer than it should have. It's been great that everything's pretty much online these days and I know I have to do the auto attendant things a certain way with the software that they have but it was a little bit more frustrating to navigate. But that doesn't take away the fact that I like Home Shield. They have done a good job and always come through when I needed them.

Alliance Overhead Garage Doors came a little earlier than the time they specified and they were good. The guy wore a mask and he did his own thing. He sanitized and kept his distance as well. He told me the details of what was wrong, took care of things efficiently and went on his way. On the other hand, trying to book the appointment with American Home Shield online was a little hard.
I couldn't get on in the evening, but when I went on the next day in the morning, I was able to order the service quickly. I don't know if it was a Hawaii thing because of the time difference (we're so late in the day) and it's not like it's the only site that we've had issues. When it's only eight o'clock in the evening here, it's already midnight somewhere, so it depends on where the computers are or where the maintenance happens. Other than that, American Home Shield is really good. I've had this warranty for a very long time, so it's not something that I'm considering canceling anytime soon.

The faucet wasn't delivering hot water. It appeared as if it was the dual hot water valve to the dishwasher. I tried a bunch of different things and thought I eliminated it. It takes a long time for the hot water to get through the pipes. That's why I tested it a few times with what I thought was cold, but it never got hot. However, in two seconds, JR Plumbing figured out that the hot and the cold were installed incorrectly a long time ago. So, the tech just flipped the lever towards the opposite direction, and the hot water came on. There were two gentlemen. One was in training. But they seemed to know what they were doing, fixed it quick, and they were out.
I like Home Shield's responsiveness and ability to get stuff checked out. Also, knowing that with some of these appliances sort of throws into their lifetime, that we have them covered. Buying a new house, you don't know what's hiding behind the doors. I was gonna buy the faucet and do the install myself. I'm glad I didn't. 75 bucks seemed better than the 150 to 300 bucks for a new faucet, plus all the persons swearing if I screwed it up or didn't have one washer and making multiple runs to Home Depot or Lowe's.

The last claim was about an oven. The contractor did not give any information about it but they took it and installed a new one. The problem was with American Home Shield. When I called to request service, it wasn't a huge issue. Because of the coronavirus, I understand they are having less number of employees working for them. It was a long time waiting time on the phone for somebody to answer. The problem was when I called to request service, they said that they were gonna send somebody to fix the issue. A local contractor came and he told us that the oven could not be fixed. It needed to be replaced. He said it was going to take American Home Shield four days to replace it and it wasn't the case. The days went by and nobody called or emailed. It took us a long time to receive the email.
Being without an oven for more than two weeks, it was painful because we have two kids and we have to feed them. We have to feed ourselves too. We couldn’t order food from outside because of the coronavirus. I called Home Shield so many times. I waited so long for someone to answer and when they answered, they said that they could not do anything. We needed to contact the appliance services. I told them to give me a number because what happened after they transferred me to appliances was I waited hours on the phone then it disconnected. This repeated at least 10 times. We were extremely frustrated because you call American Home Shield, people answer and they say they have nothing to do with appliances.
They gave me a number and it was a wrong number. I called again and they said, “This number was wrong. It’s not the right number for appliances. Let me give you another one.” I found the right number but the right number was not answering at all. There is no way for clients to contact them. Luckily, after some days, I found the email from American Home Shield appliances services. They were saying the procedure I needed to follow. But the procedure was like we needed to take care of everything. We needed to buy the appliance, we needed to find a company to bring the appliance, and we needed to find a way to get rid of the old one. American Home Shield was hands-off. We could not eat canned tuna every day. We needed to find a way to cook also so I went to Target and bought a little oven.
It was very disappointing because I thought that I changed my home warranty company from American Home Warranty to American Home Shield because American Home Warranty acted exactly the same way even before the coronavirus. I changed my home warranty because I wanted to get a better service. I knew the quality of American Home Shield's work because I had them when I was in St. Louis, Missouri. We moved to North Carolina and the first year when we bought the house, they gave us one year free American Home Warranty that's why I continued with American Home Warranty. But when I saw that it was becoming ridiculous, I changed it to American Home Shield.
They came and replaced the oven and it has been four or five days. There was an email saying, “When you buy it and when the agents come to install it, send us the invoice, how much you paid for this and how much the job has been done.” I submitted everything to American Home Shield but I don't know how long it's gonna take for them to get back to me to refund me. Nowadays, everybody's doing a very poor job and what they say is it's due to the coronavirus. There is coronavirus but customers don't have to wait one hour on the phone for a customer service person to answer. The other thing is, you don't transfer somebody and put the person on hold for an hour then automatically, at the end of one hour, it disconnects. They are laying people off, they have very limited number of people and they say it because of the coronavirus. It’s not because of the coronavirus, it's because they don't want to spend money on their employees so they kick them out.

As soon as the contract was up, I changed back to Home Shield. I have always liked them. It is $100 copay now and I have always been on a $50 or $65. It’s more expensive to have Home Shield, plus their copay is higher. That’s harder to swallow, but the service is good. Recently, there were two Blue Star Plumbing techs at the place. One of them was awesome. He did not quit until the issue was fixed. On August 21 we suffered a complete Air conditioner breakdown, we called AHS immediately. Three days later a technician showed up and explained that our a/c pump had burned out. Since our system is older, he said finding a pump would be difficult. That day he said he called AHS with what was required. A week passed and no word from AHS, at this point the outside temps were over 100 day after day. We called AHS and could never get through, their recorded message said the wait times were over an hour. We had left several messages. After a week and a half, they called and said they found a pump, the tech would pick it up. Two days later the tech showed up, wrong pump.
The process of calling AHS resumed with zero results. Week three passed, still no air conditioner and AHS calls to tell us another pump is on its way. Tech shows up, wrong pump again. To date we have called 74 times, all documented and with times and dates. Thus far, we have only received 6 call backs. We request to speak with a manager, none have responded. Yesterday we learned that the tech that came out three times has quit, disgusted with AHS. This is the worst experience we have ever had with any company, warranty or otherwise. They collect our monthly premium no problem but offer nothing in terms of service or action. We have also learned that from the start, a new outside condenser should have been ordered, that the old unit can not be serviced. Yet, these people continue to try to take the cheapest route out.
To add insult to injury, we thought this repair would be covered and our out of pocket expense would be for our $100 deductible. Not by a long shot. We were told they don’t cover replacement Freon, permits and a host of other related charges. Using AHS OUR OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE WOULD BE OVER $2400. This isn’t a warranty, these people are out to maximize profit and put their policyholders at high financial exposure. We are currently calling and submitting complaints to authorities, Dept of Insurance, Consumer Affairs, Dept of Corporations, Better Business Bureaus and our State Attorney General. STAY CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY!!

Recently, we had a plumbing issue and the contractors were responsive and the leak got fixed. I have submitted claims with AHS before and had both good and bad responses. It all depends on the contractor they have sent out. They should screen all their contractors and have consumers that used the contractors provide input back, and where a person is consistently poor in their performance that they no longer use their services. There are also some vague areas in the warranty that need to be tightened up a little. For example, in an air conditioner, they will replace every part, but at some point, they do not replace the air conditioner. That needs to be spelled out pretty specifically in the warranty.

I had a claim where American Home Shield sent out Lone Star Water and they replaced the faucet in the bathtub. That was fine. We also had some issues with the air conditioner as it wasn't cooling properly and was providing humid air into the house. A technician came and looked at it but didn't find anything. But later that night, the air conditioner leaked and caused damage to the ceiling in one of the bedrooms. Two days later, technicians came back out and fixed what they should have fixed the first time.
The biggest issue that we have right now is we're gonna start paying a pretty hefty bill for this water damage in our bedroom when that was probably a preventable issue. American Home Shield isn't covering the cost of that damage. Another issue we had was when we tried to request a rekey online but we weren't able to for some reason. I had a plumbing issue where there was a problem with an apparatus. The issue was it was not draining and the tub was not draining. I kept waiting that maybe it was going to go but it did not. I lost a lot of my hair and the people that lived here had a lot of hair. I guess it was clogged. I called American Home Shield very early in the morning. They did very good. I don't go online because I am not very friendly with the computer. Also, I’d like to hear the voice of people. I don't like that emptiness between me and the other side of the web.
Air Pro Master was my given contractor. Their man was professional. He wore a mask and booties. He went in, went to the place where the problem was, did the stuff, and resolved it fast. There was no soft talk. It was very good and I am very happy with it. I was also wearing a mask because I like to protect the person that's coming to my house. I'm glad that there are people that come to your house to do work because Cox Communication does not. It's very hard when you live by yourself and you have repair to be done. Prior to this plumbing claim, a garage man came and repaired the garage. I had to pay him extra because there was one more stuff. Also before, I had a guy that came and repaired the microwave. Everything was fine.
But why is this that now, every time that somebody comes to your house to do something, you have to grade? This is for everything now and not only American Home Shield. When I buy something or when I go to the bank, the bank sends me messages asking me to grade the person that attended me. I guess they’re trying to keep the employee and they want to know if the employee is doing a good job. When American Home Shield calls a contractor to go do a job, I can understand that because I have a company for a long time. Sometimes the employee is with you and he's not doing a good job. It's very hard. When you have a business like this, the customers are the graders so they do a very good job.

In the past couple of months, the experience with American Home Shield has been terrible. It's been a very frustrating experience. We have a claim for the wall AC unit since the second week of July which has still not been closed. It's such an extreme hot weather in the past couple of months working from home and waiting on the claim. The contractor came out and recommended the replacement of those units. I was told at least five, six weeks ago that the order has been placed and the equipment will be delivered to the contractor in a work place which never happened.
There was not a single person working on the case. Each time I called, I got ahold of new person. They assured me that they'll monitor the case but it's like going back and forth, back and forth. I was following up with them almost every other day or every day. I've made at least 25 calls and it was taking more than an hour each time to get ahold of them. There is also something going on with their internal departments. When I call customer service, they say they need to get ahold of their HVAC department and vice versa. They are not even responding to the contractor who came out and recommended the solution. I was checking with the contractor and he said he tried many times and he has provided all the information that American Home Shield was looking for multiple times.
We are customers with American Home Shield for a few years on a few accounts and they used to be really good. In a couple of other claims, they were fine. But with this claim, I’m extremely disappointed. We were telling them, “If you don't fix this open claim, we’ll have no choice but to seek for legal opinions on what to do.” I would greatly appreciate if someone from the higher up can look at this claim and at least close this claim.

But then, AHS billed us for the next three months, telling us we owed them $150. And it took four phone calls to resolve that and we finally just threatened them to put a stop to the issue. It made us hesitant to retain their service and we didn't like the cost anyway, but getting the discount was really helpful. And we haven't made up our minds if we're going to go through that again. But, we've been very happy with the service provided and we have not been disappointed with it.
Recently, we had an appliance issue where On Point Service Company came out. They were awesome and very quick to respond. They did what they said they were going to do and were very easy to work with. The installer that they sent out quickly identified the problem, said that he'd get it fixed for us, and told us when it would be done. Then, it happened on that day. He came back, finished it, and it was well done. The appliance has been working great since the service, too. Between the repair man and their office staff, it was the most professional contractor that AHS had sent out here.

I had a claim with AHS for my AC unit and when the guy came out, he said that they were going to order something for me and get it replaced. He said to give it a couple of days and American Home Shield would be calling me. So, I waited a week and when I didn't get a call, I tried to call them. They said they haven't heard anything from the contractor, May Heating and Air, and when I asked them what I should do, they told me to just wait for them. So, I waited two weeks. But then, I'm still here with no AC up in my bedrooms and I live in Charleston, South Carolina. And I didn't even know if the tech got it approved to order the part. Other than that, AHS has been perfectly fine. This issue doesn’t bother me though I wish my AC was fixed.

I've had some pretty good service with American Home Shield but lately, it's been kinda hard to try to get things communicated. I just recently got my Home Depot eGift Card for the replacement of my dishwasher and I still have to physically go in the store and do that because they didn't have the one that I tried to purchase. I had to call and I waited on the phone one day for like four and a half hours to try to get someone. This was several attempts. Also, I had a hole in my ceiling from when DrainGo came out to try to find out where a leak was going. I never got the guy to come and fix it. It turned out that he was from New Orleans. The service has kinda taken a hit around the pandemic. Before that, I could call somebody and get a human on the phone.
Other than that, the benefit comes in very handy, especially you never know when something is gonna go wrong. The main line coming into my home going underneath the slab was damaged and water was shooting straight up through the concrete. It was coming up through my wood floors and was going up the walls. It went up the walls almost about two feet all the way around. In the washroom, the whole cabinet had to be ripped out and rebuilt.
DrainGo fixed the leak. I had to pay out of the pocket for more because there were two lines that had to be rerouted. Also, they left the ground outside, where the hole was, kinda nappy. But maybe it was because the guy was by himself and he had a lot of work to do. He worked a total of two or three days. They should have given him two or three more people. But he got it working. I tipped him because I could see how intense the work was. Overall, I was satisfied with the job getting done because it was a bad situation.
El-Marco,

The washing machine was making a noise like the tub inside was disconnected. Glyn's Appliance Service came to fix it and they couldn't. But this has been going on already for like four weeks for the first time they came. They said they had ordered a part for it. After that, they said that they either not make the part that they had ordered anymore. We had the washer and dryer in the same situation. I already replaced the dryer. The repair was done by Glyn's Repair. Now the washing machine was the same thing. They said they had ordered a part, and then they contacted us, and they told us that they were gonna submit a replacement or a claim to Home Shield because they don't make that part anymore. Then they called us back and they said that the insurance company had decided to go ahead and order the part. This is where we are right now.
I’m waiting. We never received an email from anybody. All we received was an email from American Home Shield saying that they had ordered the part for the washing machine. The contractor responded within a week since we contacted American Home Shield. When they responded, they were here on time. They were here at the time that they said they were gonna be. Other than the things that they indicated were beyond their control, it was just a matter of that it's been too long since we haven't had a washing machine. I really don't blame them for it.

I had two work orders. One was for a stove and one was for a dishwasher. The contractors went out about the same time. The dishwasher situation took a couple of weeks. They came out, fixed it up and did a great job. The stove issue, it's been about three weeks and I just haven't heard anything else. But the contractors came out and evaluated. It turned out to be the outlet and not the stove itself. All in all, they did a good job. The service of AHS has been good. When everything works, when the contractors work, when AHS and everything falls through correctly, it's great. I actually did try somebody else but I had to get my money back. I came right back.

The air handling unit was leaking significantly out on the floor. Ace Heating and Cooling came out and did an assessment on what was happening. At first they thought it was the connection from the drain pan to the condensation pump. They replaced that one but it didn't fix the unit. Then they determined that the drain pan was the issue. So they were gonna start to look for the drain pan. About five days later, they called and told me that they weren't able to find the drain pan because the unit was so old and that they could replace the whole air handling unit. I said that sounded great and to get it done. They came out and did it within a day.
They were very professional and hard workers. They wore masks and booties when they had to come in to the house. I told them that they did not have to wear booties if they didn't want to but they did it anyway. So I appreciated that. Everything was done in a timely manner. Everything works great now. There are no leaks and my house is cool.

The faucet underneath was leaking. I tried to tighten it up myself when I first moved here and get everything fixed, and it just wouldn't tighten up. So, when the gentleman from Bill's Plumbing came out, he diagnosed it a little bit more and found out that the washers and stuff were rusted. He put in a whole new upper faucet. I didn't want the generic one because it's a custom home so I purchased the upgraded one and he came in and put it in with no problems. But when you go to take the nozzle of the faucet and turn it off, it sometimes leaks. So, you have to wiggle the handle in order to make sure that it's not leaking. Because if you just push it up, it seems to keep leaking. I'm hoping that would eventually go away.
I also had a claim with the stove. The gentleman came and looked at it. All the parts came in but we found out that it only needed one relay. All the other parts were excess. So they took that and now they're just waiting for the other part to come in again. Hopefully, it'll be in the mail in the next week or so. AHS has been great. It was no hassle. I've owned other homes and usually, you get the run around for a minute or you're playing with computer systems and things of that nature. So I was leery at first and I was gonna try to do the work myself. The previous homeowner said that AHS was fantastic and suggested I call them and get them to do it instead of trying to do it all myself. So I appreciate it.

AMP Mechanical has been very patient. They've been out a total of three four to five times. The first time they came out, there was a pin broken inside of the valve. They fixed that, added some leak stop and put in some refrigerant. Then the second time they came out, they did the leak stop again, put in a little bit more refrigerant the next couple of times. Then this last time he came out, he said that there was a wire that had broken, and he repaired that. He’s very courteous, very professional and explained everything perfectly. Right now, it's good. When I have been having problems, it worked well for the first couple of weeks, and then it kind of went back to that blowing out warmer. It's not cold air. The temperature gets hot in the house, it cycles and doesn't turn off.
I really appreciate American Home Shield in general. They're very timely. I've had been trying to get through on the phone line. There were a couple of times on different things besides the air conditioner where I was on hold for a good three hours. But they had explained they were having some computer issues. I finally realized doing it through my account online and it has been wonderful. Doing the claims online has been much more productive.

American Home Shield stinks. I bought a house with a hot tub and a pool. The guy that came out took a couple of trips and he fixed the pool pretty well. AHS then dispatched the same person to do a diagnosis on the hot tub. He showed up and said it needed a part. They ordered it and three weeks later, still no part. Finally, they got it then the tech showed up, opened the box, and it was defective. That part wasn't defective and I thought the tech damaged it, but that's another story. Then, he said that they had to order another one. Another two months went by and still no part.
I did what any logical-thinking lunatic would do. I got a new hot tub and I had them haul that piece of junk off. About a little over a month later, the company that American Home Shield had dispatched called and said that they got my part. Now granted, I know COVID and all this stuff is going on, so it's unusual circumstances. But I don't have any patience even during COVID. I told them that it was great that they got the part, except that I didn't know where that hot tub was. I got rid of it as it had been four months.
I'm paying American Home Shield for that warranty and they're sending me that group. I didn't hear a drop from them that entire time. They can't just leave the customer swinging in the breeze because I'm the one that paid for it. I paid 75 bucks which sounded funny because I spent a lot more than that for the new hot tub, but 75 bucks is still 75 bucks. I would not get a refund on that. When it comes to stars, granted, they were great for this one, but the other one, they were horrible.
Recently, our AC needed Freon. A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out and wasn't on time. The guy that showed up was great and did phenomenal work in a very short period of time. He got right to it, flushed the drain, and he knew what he was doing. However, I was given an eight-hour window but then I had to wait and wait for him, and it was 103 degrees that day.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

The water was not coming through the dishwasher. I had the plumber guy here first and he didn't know what the problem was. He told me to call the appliance guy. Then the appliance guy came within two days. He got under the sink. He said the water wasn't turned on. He turned the water on that the plumber couldn't figure out. The dishwasher works fine.
The plumber comes back 'cause he still hasn't finished the job that he should've been done with. He got the ice machine and the fridge working. But I have no water in my bathtub and that's the one he's out for that same day. He said that there was no cold water in there. Well, that day he came there was a water main break in town, so there was no water pressure. He told me to call him when it comes back on and it's still not fixed. I called him that night and said the water's on and heard nothing back from a week. Then I called and said that I got this thing from Home Shield saying the job is done. He said he didn't hear from me. I told him that I called and left a message. He said that he has to get a new phone.
I still do not have water in my main bathtub. I called and the lady I spoke to said the part is en route. I asked her why they couldn't call and let me know, and why they didn't just put a new piece in there. She said that she didn't think my insurance would cover that. I asked her if she was telling me that since the 18th of August until now, Home Shield doesn't cover something till I have water in my main bathroom. She told me to check it with them then she asked if I wanted to cancel and I told her no since the part is en route although that could still be another nine days and I still haven't heard from them.
I wanted to make sure that after they're done with this one, if I ever have a problem again, they're not coming to my house. The guy cost me $75 that I would not have had to pay 'cause I paid for the appliance repairman to come and turn the water on. But the plumber should've done it. I should get $75 credit from somebody. The lady was supposed to call me back from there when she finds out who's gonna give me my $75 back and I still haven't heard back from her either. I had Home Shield one year when I lived in Clarksville and it was good there, that was why I got it again when I bought this place. My son got it again here too. I'm gonna tell him not to let Bubba's Plumbing come to his place.

We saw water that we thought had seeped out through the rock on the house. We also thought that there was a leak in the slab and we needed that checked out. We sent a claim in to AHS and the contractor they sent out was really good. It was the owner himself that came and he was very professional. But it turned out that there wasn't anything to repair and that the problem wasn't in the slab. He did several tests and determined that it was in the faucet on that side of the house. On the day that we saw water, we had the sprinkler hose up to the sprinkler and it was leaking under the faucet. So it was really simple and there wasn't much to do. But he took care of it and we were really impressed with him. Other than that, we've had other problems but we've called and found that they weren't covered by the policy. There was a problem with the electric range and a big a exhaust fan in the attic that they said were not covered.

So far so good. American Home Shield is probably the best thing close to an extended warranty. I have put in two claims and both of them have been fixed. Recently, I put a claim in. They said this person from this company was gonna get in contact with me and they called in two days. They got this guy to come to my house but he didn't even have the proper tools to do the job. He had to use my tools to finish the job. At one point, he had to leave to get a tool that he forgot and came back. With Home Shield, you pay a deductible of $100 then you pay $40 a month. If I'm paying $100 deductible, the gentleman should do the job. I had to help him with the washer, like lift the washer up from the laundry room and put it in the garage so he could work on it. The first time that my wife submitted the claim for the air conditioning, there was a problem with the website. So, she had to go back and do it again but she said it was simple and straightforward. Our upstairs air conditioning wasn't cooling our game room and our media room. It was determined that the unit itself was functioning as designed, had plenty of Freon and it was cooling just fine. But when the home was built, there was no adequate ventilation put into those rooms to cool it down. There was only one register in each room and the rooms are so large that they needed more volume there. So, the contractor came out, checked the system and did a consult. Gary, the man who came out, ordered the part for the dishwasher and told us to have the vent cleaned out on the dryer, which was done six months ago. There was an issue where there was a bend in the vent so, we had Sears come out to do it and they did a good job. The parts came in and Gary came back to repair the dishwasher. It's perfect now. He looked at the dryer again to make sure that it was working well. He said that it was as good as it could be now. Sometimes, as it gets older, it doesn't heat up as much as it used to but he double checked that. He moved it away from the wall and made sure that Sears put the pipe on when they did the vent cleaning. Gary was excellent.
We got American Home Shield with our home when we purchased two years ago and then we stopped because we were gonna sell in March. But the Coronavirus came and we had to take our home off the market. So, I came back to American Home Shield and signed for another year. Last year, we had two terrible contractors. So when I signed this year, I told them not to send Cooper Appliance again and the people who came out to service my air conditioner because they broke it. We had to pay for the repairs. He’s supposed to call me back in 24 hours but nobody did. I’m calling the guy who took the board out and go tested it to see if that’s not the case. They have to pay for the damages.
It's been terrible and I’m waiting for American Home Shield to call me. I thought they are one of the best and my friend recommend them. But it’s the same old story that they deny with a ridiculous reason. I’m 100% sure it had nothing to do with the board 'cause the unit was working fine. First of all, it turned out that the battery was dead in the thermostat on the wall so he replaced the battery so it could read what the temperature was. I then asked him to go out and check the Freon in there (because it's an older unit) and he did. It was down a pound and he put some more in so everything was working fine when he left.

Apart from that, he checked the whole system out and he repaired it. He made sure it was running and made sure everything was fine.

My daughter was brushing her teeth and she turned the faucet and something snapped inside and it started gushing water. So I went under the sink and turned it off. DNB came out and fixed it. It was pretty routine. But the plumbers that came before them were rude as hell. American Home Shield never followed up with those two plumbers. One of them told me that I needed to call him before I did any work. Our house is 21 years old. It's the same hookup line and it was original equipment. For him to say that I was doing something, it really left a bad taste in my mouth. He came back for a problem similar to that one and he was acting like he was happy. I tried to install a bidet toilet lid and I ended up stripping something. He said that it wasn't gonna be covered under American Home Shield and it would be $75. He told me it wasn't normal wear and tear. He had to replace it. But I didn't get my bidet in. It’s just sitting there.

I submitted a claim with AHS because both toilets went out at the same time. The pump was skeeting water all over the place, so I had to turn it off by the valve. When the contractors got here, they had to replace both of them. There were no issues. It's working great now. It's been really easy submitting claims online with AHS. I tried to call on this one situation. I wasn't on hold, but it took a long time to get a representative because I thought I was being charged twice, but I wasn't. Once they assign you that contractor, they still wait a while before they charge a card. That particular week, so much was going on. So charges were constantly being charged. But it got resolved. It wasn't an extra charge. It was just that week was a busy week for the contractors. My experience with AHS has been excellent. I haven't had any issues.

We had a little noise coming from the hot water tank and it was squirting water out of the sprout that leads to the pipe that leads outside. And there was a flow of water that just flooded on the outside and it went all the way to the street, which was unusual. We called up Home Shield, then the plumber from Alvarez Plumbing Services came out and indicated that too much pressure on the tank caused it to leak. They came out and changed the valve a few days ago and everything seemed to be okay now. They were professional and friendly. And any question I had, they answered it and were cool about it. We still had our hot water though prior to, but it's not doing the same thing that it was doing prior to.

I had a problem with the toilet and Madden Plumbing & Heating came right away and fixed it. They were great. I've done three claims to American Home Shield in the three years we've had it. It’s worked fine. Where we are now, when you put the claim in, it's all on the computer, so you can't talk about it or go into detail on what you need. But that it seems to work. In fact, the turnaround time is pretty quick. They'll say they've contacted somebody and then that person has to contact us. They normally do it right away.

The ceiling fan and the bathroom fan were broken. When I filed the claim, I was on the phone for hours waiting for a representative to answer. I ended up going online. The guy from East Valley Electric called me right before he got there and he was on time. He was able to repair the ceiling fan. He said he just had to balance them out. But the fan for the bathroom was completely broken so he had to replace it. They’re working great now. The only thing is I'm still waiting on a work order for the appliance that I put in the same time that I put in the electric. Those people called me, but they were trying to go home when I wasn't there. I told them I was at work so they said they would call me back to reschedule. But I never heard from them again. I was gonna give them a call and have them reschedule somebody else. Overall, American Home Shield is really good. I referred some friends to them not so long ago.

I had some stoppage in two sinks and also had a issue with one of the toilets where it would run then stop then run to fill the tank up periodically. We'd hear it going on and off. I filled out the online portal that you go in and click all the stuff that you have issue with then pay 100 bucks right there. The contractor was fairly quick. They responded within a day or two and were out at the house within a couple of days. They were very professional. They're probably one of the better contractors American Home Shield has sent out to my house.
When the installer came out, he kinda messed up the way the sink was installed. The guy just used the plumbing that was there and reconfigured it to be within code. For the sink upstairs, I did kinda miss that one but he told me that it was plugged in the wall. He checked the trap and it was a little past the trap so he had to blow it out. I'm still waiting for them to come out for the toilet. They replaced some items inside the toilet but it didn't prevent it from running. It was still trickling. They had to order a new toilet. I had an issue with American Home Shield with my air conditioner that I'm still a little dissatisfied with. In fact, I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint and they did call me and said they were gonna refund my $100 but I haven't seen it in my credit card yet.

There was a leak that was coming out from upstairs so there was some stain on the ceiling from downstairs. I called it in and the rep was very helpful. The contractor came, opened it and looked where it was coming from, and it was from the drainage from upstairs. The guy from Keyliam and Sons was really good. He was very nice. He explained everything that he was doing. If I asked him a question, he was very polite in answering it and explaining it.
The very reason why I called was first was I didn't know if the leakage is covered under my contract. I wanted make sure it was covered. The other reason was I was not happy with the guy who came in for our AC. At first, he was very nice. When I started asking questions, he became very rude. I also had so many out-of-the pocket expenses aside from the $100 deductible. Lately we have so many problems that we've used it. With our water heater, we also had a huge out-of-the-pocket expense. I was really fighting if I need to continue with American Home Shield or not. I didn't realize that the rate is going up every year until I saw my statement. Sometimes you don't check your credit statement. It's just an automatic payment. All of a sudden I saw it raised to 50 something dollars. From 39 to 50-plus, that's a big raise for a monthly payment.

The guy was great. He replaced the check valve, the actuator and the air blower. There was something that was burnt out which would power the air blower to create bubbles in the spa. He said that the relay was not covered under American Home Shield. I'm trying to get ahold of them to come out and fix this relay but nobody's answering me so I don't know what I'm supposed to do. However, when the website asks you what's wrong with your appliance, it doesn't give you an opportunity to tell them what's wrong with it. It gives you options to choose from and sometimes, I notice my option isn't on there. Recently, GE Appliance came out for the oven. Every time I turned it on, it did an F3 sound. The guy said because it was so old, the parts could no longer be found. They're now ordering an oven. They sent me pictures of what to expect and we went from there based on the dimensions I gave them.

We've had AHS for about eight years and never had a problem. However, I have a second home on my ranch that I cover, and the refrigerator went out on July 5th, and finally, two weeks ago, they decided to replace it. My son's been without a refrigerator that long and he has a minor in house. Finally, the refrigerator will be in in 10 more days. So that was really bad.
I would call AHS and be on hold for three hours and then they would just drop me. We kept a record. I was on hold for a total of 16 hours of of all the calls I made. What they did was they sent a technician from Sears repair. He didn't know what he was doing. He kept ordering parts. First, he came out and said, “Well, you just need to vacuum behind it.” We knew that wasn't right.
Then my heat pump went out. In the interim, I finally requested that we had TNT. They've always been awesome with us. I told American Home Shield, I don't want anyone else except them coming out here. This was my second request. So they switched and then we started getting things done. Then my air conditioning unit went out when it was 90 plus here and that was at least three weeks ago.
TNT Ventures did all the paperwork. His office has been wonderful. They've been following up and calling. They said, “Okay. We can repair it, but you're gonna have to pay $450 of stuff we don't cover.” After eight years, as soon as that's done, I'm switching to a different company. It's been really bad with AHS. I can't get ahold of anyone that will help me. They don't process anything. I checked with two other companies that were repair people, and they said, they've had a lot of problems with them.
Some of their reps didn't do a thing. I got the rep twice, and she kept saying, “I feel bad you're going through this and you have a minor child.” But nothing ever got done. One day I said, “Just let me talk to a supervisor.” My son used to be the manager at an appliance store. He even said when the guy came out, all those times which cost the American Shield a ton of money, “It's the compressor.” A month and a half later, when I suddenly got TNT to come out, he was there 10 minutes and said, “Yes, it’s the compressor.” So it's just not been good at all. The only reason that I haven't canceled them is because I have pending claims. I wouldn't recommend AHS to anyone.

He did a great job and the AC is working great now. Also, I was unaware that if the same issue wasn't resolved, I wouldn't have to pay the $100 co-payment again. I was pretty excited about that. They came in, looked at the situation and told my husband what they were gonna do. They did it. They had me sign some papers, and they left. They were very courteous.
I did the claim online to American Home Shield and then I got an email saying that the Sirius company would be taking care of my request. I put the claim in on Sunday. Sirius called me on Tuesday morning, and they were here yesterday. I do have another claim that I put in the same day about my cooktop burner that is supposed to be taken care of by another company. I got a notice from American Home Shield telling me that I had to call them to set up an appointment. I did, and they're not returning my calls. So I'm really kind of ticked off about that. I’m going to call American Home Shield again.

We called American Home Shield regarding our downstairs air conditioning. Their reps were great. They told me when the contractor would be calling me to set the appointment. Air Magic came out. The issue was the coils inside the air compressor were freezing, and then they were defrosting and water was leaking all over inside of the wall where the air filter vent is. They had to bring in a part and they fixed it. Air Magic did great.
We've been with American Home Shield for several years and we've been really disgruntled with their service on several other occasions regarding other claims that we've had to file where we had a problem with one of our dryers. We have two stackable washer and dryers, and there was a dryer downstairs they needed to order a part for, and it took them three months. So, my kids couldn't use their dryer. We kept calling and they were like, "Oh, we fixed it." We were like, "No, the last we heard was somebody had to order a part and they were gonna bring it." Three months later, they finally called us and we said, "You know what, the company we had originally contracted to send out to do the work, they quit. So we had to hire someone else." It was a big fiasco.
Most recently, we called them because one of those pullout drawer freezers in my fridge in my kitchen freezes up. Everything's covered in ice. And so constantly, we're having to open it, take all the food out, defrost it, clean up the water. Then the last time we called to have someone come out and service it, they said that the rubber seal around the edge of the freezer door wasn't sealing all the way, so they fixed it. We just had a guy come out yesterday, and he put down, "Snow building up in the freezer, left side not sealing all the way. Advise homeowner to defrost freezer for a week." We already did that before even calling. We are not idiots. We know how to try and troubleshoot our own freezer. It hadn't been defrosted. He came and he was just defrosted it again.
American Home Shield is fine. The people that they contract are either great or they're not great. So, it's really hit or miss. The three-month waiting period for one little part to fix the dryer was frustrating. I have a family of six. So we have an upstairs washer and dryer and downstairs washer and dryer because we're a family of six and we have tons of pets. We're doing laundry all the time. We were down, having to use one washer and dryer for three months, because they wouldn't come and fix it. We pay our fees for the year to employ American Home Shield to be our home warranty company, and it's like, "What are we paying them for if we have to go this long to wait for something to get fixed?" We were like, "Should we just hire a new company? Should we switch to a new home warranty company? They can't be all this bad."

This is our second year with American Home Shield. We used to have First American and it was horrible. American Home Shield is so much faster. I seem to get a much better response online and much better quality of people coming out to our home for services. We haven't had a lot of issues thus far, knock on wood, but everybody that we've had has been good. However, it's 100 bucks each time the contractors come out. With First American, it was less expensive. A few times, I've had to pay the $100 for them to come out and it didn't end up being broken like the garbage disposal. On top of that, I also still have to pay the yearly fee for American Home Shield. There are also all kinds of stipulations. Today, a contractor came out for a servicing. I noticed something going wrong with my furnace. The condenser is fine because it's new, but it's making a weird sound. The tech found that it is a slight issue with the relay, but it's not gone out. His statement was either it's not working the way it's supposed to or it's completely out, before we can repair anything. We know something is going wrong with it, but it has not stopped functioning the way it's supposed to so we can't repair. That's the only thing I don't like.
If you know what the issue is or have a great idea what it is, and you can repair that before it becomes an inconvenience, why would Home Shield not allow that? It doesn't make sense to me that in order to repair it, it has to be gone or not functioning the way it's supposed to function before they would allow it to be fixed. Other than that, when my dryer wouldn't start, I called Home Shield and I was told a contractor would come out within 24 to 48 hours. They were on point. BRM Services came out, and they were professional and straight to the point. The dryer has been perfect, like it never stopped working.

American Home Shield's service has been good. We're not happy with the fees. We had another warranty company, and their fees were like 65 bucks. This technician will be there anywhere from 12:00 to the end of the business day, 12:00 to 5:00." But they didn’t come all the way until 5:00. So, we sat at this house all day, in a house that we haven't moved in yet. I told them that. But still, you wanna be there when somebody comes in your house. I wish they gave me a smaller window or just an exact time. All the ones that I had with Home Shield gave me an exact time.
And then, the contractor came out and didn't know their assignment. I put a request in for the furnace, and the tech went to check the AC and then got ready to leave after giving me some feedback on the AC. He said that Home Shield's warranty doesn't cover that. And then, he said he didn't know anything about the electric furnace. He went back to call, and then he figured out it was for the furnace with the add-on for the AC. So, he didn't solve any issue for me. I wasn't happy with the experience.
Home Shield gave me an estimate for $6,000 to $7,000, saying that they don't cover the AC unit. And then they put in a request for a memory board in the furnace, but I still haven't got a call back from them to see when they will be able to do that. I called them back on the AC unit because I gotta do my due diligence to at least shop around if it's gonna be $6,000 or $7,000. When my AC had an issue, the tech that AHS sent out did a really good job. He was on time, courteous, and he knew exactly what he was doing. He looked at it and within two seconds, he had it diagnosed and fixed. Also, he remained outside and wore a mask. We were six feet away from each other. The AC is working great now and up to that last call, my experience with AHS has been good.
Right now, I'm not happy with them. I called them out for my cooktop and when the technician came, he looked at it and said that there were two igniters that need to be replaced. He said he'd have to go back to his office to write up the report, then I was contacted a couple of days later by AHS saying that they were not going to cover the item because there was physical damage to the stove. But I said it was not physical damage. It was normal wear and tear. But they're declining to fix it based on what the technician wrote and to me, it's unacceptable. The unit is 19 years old. It's old and needs to be replaced, but it needs to work correctly as well.
There was a chip in the porcelain on the top and I wasn't asking them to replace the porcelain top or to replace the unit, I just wanted it to work correctly. And they started citing all of their contract language stating that if the unit is damaged due to neglect, that they would not cover that. It wasn't damaged due to neglect and the damage did not damage the igniters. The damage was a simple superficial damage, which again, I wasn't asking them to fix. The unit itself is a hazard to my house. At night, I have to unplug it because the igniters will start ticking in the middle of the night. I've been woken up by that before and I'm concerned about the safety of the unit, but they don't seem to care.
They keep citing the part of the contract and they have not refunded my money for that service call. They have not made any amends. There has been no discussion and they're not even offering to split the 65 bucks I paid for the guy who came out, looked at the cooktop, then got back to his car and drove away. I've reached out to the service company that came out to the house and to this day, they have not responded back to me. So as far as AHS goes, I'm going to be canceling their contract. They've done a couple of different things in our house and every time has been fantastic. But for some reason on this one, they're digging in their heels and that's it.

Recently, we had a problem with the plumbing. It was the leak in the shower. The contractors had to order a part. They came back out seven days later and they repaired it. Everything's good with it. I love American Home Shield. I had them most of the time for the past almost 11 years. I went a year without them. But most of the time, it was American Home Shield. They stand by their work. We had a couple of replacements. They replaced the washing machine. Everything that I asked them pretty much got done. I've never had any problems with them.

I just renewed my second year contract with Home Shield last August. I like that I don't have to run around and try to find anybody to do the job and worry about the tech ripping me off. I like top quality work. You call people up and they claim they can do this and then they get out there and screw you around or they quote you one price, and then they get out there and they tell you another, try to up the ante. I don't have to deal with all that. All I have to do is call Home Shield, put in my order, and they take care of the rest. They just call me and tell me when the contractor will be there. I wasn't there when Intertech Maintenance came in but I've used them before and I love them. I like their politeness and friendliness. Also, they're knowledgeable and down-to-earth. I'm completely satisfied with Home Shield.

Our power kept going off in the living room. When we put the breaker back on, it kept doing it like six different times. I guess there was a shortage in the wire. It happened on Thursday night and I called the claim in on Friday. Nobody could come to us until Monday so we didn't have power in our living room for the entire weekend and that was kind of a little frustrating. That was the only thing that I would say I wish was different. But that's fine. I understand that's how it is sometimes. AHS sent Elite Electric Solutions and they fixed that. They were awesome. Overall, AHS was fast and reliable.

But as soon as the part came, the tech called and within a week, they were back out here. They made the correction in about 10 minutes and everything's fine. They were prompt, professional, very courteous and caring for the customers. They came in with masks and no shaking of the hands. We elbow bumped. They maintained social distancing. I like AHS. The people from Response Plumber & Rooter were very friendly, courteous and quick. They were on time as well. We had water leaking and they checked out the dishwasher and then they repaired my garbage disposal, which wasn't working. We thought we had water leaking from the dishwasher, but in reality, it was from the air conditioning unit. Something was plugged in the line. Response Plumber & Rooter fixed what they could fix, and they told us what needed to be done with the air conditioner.
Everything was solved quickly and it was a good experience. My son-in-law who lives here works on air conditioning and heating. When he came home, he was able to clear the line and get it all done, but we wouldn't have known where it was coming from. This is the first time that we've used American Home Shield. We've only been in the house since the end of may and the sellers of the house had purchased it, so it was all part of our package when we bought the house.

Original Review: Sept. 10, 2020
I called American Home Shield out for the garage and the outside cover was removed to replace a bulb. The gentleman got the door to go up and down but it was so loud. It was rattling so bad. AHS refused to replace it because the guy could make it go up and down although it was horrible and because I didn't have the cover on it. They were saying that broke the contract, which I wasn't aware of. I could’ve easily put the cover back on. The outside cover didn’t have anything to do with the problem. So, I ended up having to replace the garage door opener myself once I returned back from working from out of state.
I also called AHS for an electrical problem. Some of the plugs didn't work and some would just fall out. The rep could’ve told me that those plugs were considered updates. The first gentleman who came out fixed some of the plugs and he said that he would be back and that he would need AHS’s information. He never called us back. Time went on and it had passed the 30-day window. I called AHS and I asked what happened to the electrical. Now, I have to pay another $75 only to be told that most of my plugs were considered an update. At this time, there is only one plug that the gentleman had fixed so, I wasted another $75.
Just recently in June, I requested a repair on a washer and a dryer. The contractor came out and it was written on two tickets. The same company came out on the same day. The technician felt that only a door needed to be replaced on the dryer, which we have to slam shut to get it to connect and work. I told the gentleman about the lights going on and off, and it took forever. I have called and called. It took from June all the way into the end of August to get the dryer/washer replaced. Now, the dryer still has an issue. I'm waiting to see if they are gonna replace the dryer or if they are fixing the panel. I got an email a week ago that the parts have been requested. There was no number to call so, I'm still waiting for the status of the dryer.
The claim has been a nightmare and it is a nightmare to get through. I have literally sat on the phone holding up to four hours. Everything is being blamed on COVID. I used to be a real estate agent. I made sure every house I close had a one-year prepaid warranty for American Home Shield because that's how much I believed in them and I've had it for the last few years myself. Due to financial problems back in ’08, my contract broke off but as soon as I was able, I had to come back again but lately, I've been very disappointed. When I do get a person, they are nice and they mean well but there were a couple of times when I requested a call back rather than sit and hold on. I did not get the call back, especially on Fridays. I've experienced that as well, dealing with the washer and dryer.
Now, not due to American Home Shield, the air conditioning is running. But I'm concerned because the unit is dripping water from up above and out through a tube that drips down over the side. I don't know if that's something that should be happening or if it is a lot because I've never noticed that much water dripping out on the side. So, I put in another request and I'm still waiting to hear if they're coming out to address the air conditioning unit again, which is within the 30 days.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

My tenants called me to say that the AC unit in my rental property had been out of commission for three days. When I called American Home Shield, they gave me a claim number and provided a service provider. This time, I was given Plumbers. I called the Plumbers company and asked "Are you fixing the AC? Because I don't have any problems with my plumbing issues or system." They said that was not the name of the company. They sent a technician and they fixed the AC. When I asked my tenant if everything was fine, they said the AC was working.
I have three properties and all of them are covered by American Home Shield. I found them online. They are pretty good and they answer on time. But there was one time when I called for the same property. My tenants told me that the their garage was not closing properly. American Home Shield sent their technician and they said it would cost me two 275 or 265 extra because American Home Shield didn't cover the rollers. I said nevermind and I ended up calling a garage door service through Facebook. It turned out that the problem was just the cord that you pull. I guess one of the kids pulled it and it wasn't engaging. The door really opens properly. The guy who came pulled the cord and it was fixed. I asked him how much this is gonna cost me and he said it was free because he didn't do anything. But the company that the American Home Shield sent was starting to rip me off for 265 or 265. I put a complaint but they never answered.

We were having issues with our air handler, and then with our AC unit. They shut down and this all happened during our wedding week. I got married two weekends ago and we were getting no support through American Home Shield, so when it comes to a rating experience, it was as negative as possible. They sent somebody who came out and lied on the report that they sent into American Home Shield. That was on the vendor that was sent out then we had a second person, and after that person came out, our unit entirely shut down.
We had another person come out a few days later as a secondary, and our entire unit was frozen, so they couldn't even come take a look at it to put in the report. At this point, we went out since we had no AC for over a week. During that hot spell, we had to go out and buy a brand-new unit. This has been my only claim and I've been severely disappointed. I renewed my policy with the understanding that we were gonna get support through this for replacing everything. I spoke to a very nice lady at Iowa and had a wonderful experience. She then sent me to over to customer service, and I immediately started talking to somebody that was a foreign person or somebody that English is not their primary language. I don't mind, but they're very hard to understand and they don't care.
I explained my situation over and over again, and it was the worst customer experience I've ever gone through. I work in sales, and we're all about customer experience. I have never had such a bad customer experience through anybody. I will be sharing this with friends and family and everybody else that uses American Home Shield until we get a resolution that we're looking for. I'm still at the point of I need to talk to somebody American.

I filed a claim online to American Home Shield for the water buildup in a pan around the air conditioner and it’s easy to use when you have a claim that is in their drop-down box of issues. I was given an expectation on when to hear from the contractor, which didn’t happen. I had to call the contractor and schedule directly. C&R was great. They cleared the pipes and looked over the unit to make sure that there weren't any other issues. They handled the claim well whereas AHS didn’t. They could have communicated the claim to C&R so that C&R would have been aware of it to call me. When I called C&R, they said the claim didn’t come to them from AHS so they had to follow up with AHS to confirm it. Then they came out and did the service.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

My garbage disposal was leaking water out of the bottom of it and then the blades seized up. I did the online service request and American Home Shield got back in touch with me very quickly and then set up everything flawlessly. Draingo came out twice. The first time, they unseized the garbage disposal and got the blades turning again, but the leak wasn’t addressed and I didn't think they knew that. When I made the follow up call, they were right back out the very next day and looked and said that the garbage disposal was rusted out in the corner and there was no way they could fix it. They put a new one in and within 30 minutes. The guy was completely professional and friendly, no qualms with him whatsoever.
As far as American Home Shield goes, great service, set up great expectations. The only issue I’ve had was when I had to talk to somebody in the call center. Of course, I've got my southern drawl and they’re in India or Middle Eastern. We had a little trouble with each other's accents. Little communication issues there, but it was okay.

He had to resubmit something because we needed something that he couldn't fix on site. We also had a claim for the AC that wasn't working. Choice Plumbing Heating & A/C came out and the AC works now. We have canceled our warranty with American Home Shield. My problem with them has been and has always been the amount of time that I am on hold. Waiting to get through to American Home Shield always exceeds two hours each time I call. I've had it with that and we are done with it. They've lost a customer and I've told all my friends. We are absolutely disgusted with the amount of times that I had been on hold.
I can't tell how many hours, in one week, I spent trying to get through the many times between contacting the appliance department. It was absolutely ludicrous. Sometimes it would take three hours and one time, I finally got through after three and a quarter hours. Then the lady on the other side said, "I can't hear you. I can't hear you. You have 30 seconds before I hang up," then she hung up. Meanwhile, everybody else could hear me for the day. After that, there I was again for another two hours.
I will never use American Home Shield again. Every time I have the opportunity, I will let people know that the wait times are what caused you this contract. I hope that they do something as far as letting people have a voice somewhere to complain. All of the telephone numbers that they give you always route you to be on hold for several hours. Their Facebook page has been taken down as far as being able to make contacts. There is no email address either. The one that you get goes to nowhere. So it was such a frustrating thing.

I had a claim for the AC and the process took about a month and a half. Climate Masters was the one that completed the job. They were extremely efficient, thoughtful, and they did a great job. But we had problems with the two companies before them. American Home Shield said they didn't receive the reports from these companies and the other two companies were not able to get in touch with them. Also, when I would email AHS, I would get something back from them a week later. Then, when I would call American Home Shield, which I did probably 80 times, they would put me on hold and say that they were going to escalate it. I heard escalation about 20 times. They'd put me on hold to try to keep in contact with the other company and they couldn't get in contact with the company either. The only company that they were able to get in contact with was Climate Masters.
They ended up replacing the unit and it's working fine so far. When they got involved, it was a great experience. But before Climate Masters, I had an 80-year old woman in a house with underlying conditions in the hottest summer in Baltimore's history. So we had to take all the different precautions and do all things to make it not only bearable, but also to ensure our safety. And all the extra money it cost to do that was ridiculous. I almost would've been better to just replace my own air conditioner.

Also, the guy knew what the cause of the drip was and he replaced another part in the shower. It stopped it. He knew what he was doing. He came out, then had it done in a minimum amount of time.
Just before that plumbing thing, we also had a person come out to repair the stove, which was the broiler. And that, again, went well. I had been in my house for about four days, and then my master toilet wouldn't flush. Come to find out the title company that did all the paperwork didn't pay American Home Shield, so my Realtor had to place like a one-time claim before the title company had paid American Home Shield. American Home Shield dispatched A-1 Rapid Rooter and they came out and did what they did to make it flush again. And my toilet flushed.
Four days later, the issues happened again. So, I put in another claim with American Home Shield. A-1 Rapid Rooter came back out and I told them, "Hey, I'm not flushing anything that I shouldn't be flushing. I don't know what's going on." They ran a camera and pulled it out and said, "Ma'am, we ran into mud. We think you have a busted pipe." So, the owner of A-1 Rapid Rooter came too and said, "Yes, you have a busted pipe. It's our recommendation that we bust into your slab and replace the pipe and whatnot."
That was close to two weeks ago. They were supposed to come out last Thursday. When they never showed up, I called and the rep said, "Oh, we're sorry. We're gonna be pushed to this Thursday," which is today at nine o'clock. 9:00 came and went and I called and he said, "Oh, well, we'll show up around noon." Noon came and went and I called him back at 1:30 and said, "I know that you guys are tied up. If you're not gonna come when you tell me you're gonna come, I just need you to tell me. That way, I'm not just waiting." So, he said that they'll come tomorrow morning. I tried to get ahold of American Home Shield to see if they had any other options, but I was just on music for 50 minutes with no one picking up.

We have an issue with our window unit, and the contractors just came over and didn't even touch it. They mainly were trying to sell me a whole new unit that's gonna cost 12,000, but they didn't even come there for my home AC because it works. One of my rooms, I have a portable heat and air unit, and that's what I needed replacing or fixing. I still haven't got that done. I still need to call American Home Shield to let them know they need to send someone else out cause the first ones didn’t help me at all. Trying to get in touch with AHS on the phone is horrible right now. They need to improve their call system. But other than that, I don't have any problems with American Home Shield.

I needed a repair for my washer. I did a claim online with AHS and it was very easy. GE Appliances came out and my washer has been working fine since their service.
