I had two things going, one was for a dryer and the other one was for a top of a stove, and everything was great for both. The two people that handled the two different things were both fine. American Home Shield has been fair and I like it for convenience. They've always had good people that are contracted.

I've used American Home Shield for a garage door opener, a washing machine, and for plumbing issues that we've had in the home. I prefer to talk to someone to set up an appointment instead of the automated system. I want to talk to a live human being and express the concern so they can send out a referral to a contractor to come in and resolve the issue. The last thing that I had done was there were issues with my central air condenser on the outside. Last year, I had a new one put in. And this year, it wasn't getting cool. So, when I put the order in, two days later, the serviceman called and came out the same day. So, I was satisfied with that. He resolved the issue and life is good.
When I find a contractor that I like, I request them because I don't like a lot of different people coming to my home. And when I find someone I don't like, then I say, “Please don't send me –” whatever the name of that company is. It works out well. Because if they come to my front door, I'm gonna tell them, “No, thank you.” We had an issue in the basement with the sink and the water was going out of the sink slowly. The guy came out, and he rodded it. But there were some leaks underneath. He took and put a bunch of putty, something that my granddaughter could have done, and I said, “This is not up to my standard by any means.” So, I asked for that company never to come back. And so far, they haven't.
One of the things that can be improved is if they send out a referral, give the customer the proximal time that she will receive a callback. With one of my requests, I had to follow up with them to schedule an appointment. So, it was a little back and forth. Other than that, I've had American Home Shield for years. I am satisfied with the work that they've done for me. You have options on the type of plans that you choose. Just give them a try. I have been totally satisfied. Last year when the COVID-19 hit and they couldn't get the parts, that's understandable. Those were from May until August. Because August 10th is when they installed it. The first call went in the second week in May. So, we could not get a central air and the home was like an oven, including in the basement. But those were extreme circumstances.
We appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

American Home Shield is very dependable and reliable, and easy to understand and communicate, especially in a timely manner. With a lot of different other life experiences occurring, they are right on task with coming in and assisting the situation and leaving. So, I recommend it to anyone, whoever may have a home, because it helps with appliance insurance and anything else that people may have. Everything went well with my claim but it was challenging receiving the appliance just through one location. So, having more vendors on the island that carry appliances would be more helpful.

American Home Shield is our only home warranty that we can't place work orders because they require the service fee to be paid at the time you place the work order. So the owner has to place all work orders, which is a huge inconvenience because we can't do it for him, which is part of our duties as a property manager. Because we can't use the company credit card to pay it out of the owner's account. So he's the one who places the work order, and then lets us know who the vendor is. And then, we follow up on it and coordinate it. But he has four properties, and we've had numerous maintenance requests.
AHS is hard to get ahold of. The wait times are ridiculous. It's very difficult to coordinate anything because of their policies. So it makes it very inconvenient for us and the tenants for a continuum of communication. If they assign a vendor and the vendor can't come out for four days on air condition, when it's 118 degrees out, it's an absolute part time job to try to get it reassigned. When we call to find out approvals, we are told, “Well, you'll just have to wait.” It's just difficult all the way around. So much so that we tell our owners that have AHS, “When your warranty comes up for renewal, go with a different warranty because they're on our do-not-use list.”
Also, their warranty contractors are not the greatest. CNJ does not have a good reputation. They're extremely difficult to reach. They're always booked way out. They often cancel and reschedule. So, CNJ is not one of my favorite vendors. We've had numerous problems with them dispatched by other warranty companies too.

AHS's service request submission was a little bit more difficult before, but it's gotten much easier. The contractor I had recently was ready for scheduling. I was just unavailable so I had to make arrangements for someone to be at the home. The techs who have been sent have been very professional and clean. I had someone come out last year and the staff seemed to be there long-term because it was the same guy that came out.

We had to use American Home Shield recently. The contractor was out within three days. I called on a Friday morning and they answered, then the contractor was here on Monday. And within 10 minutes, the tech had the part replaced, done, left us the old part, and replaced it out with a new part. It was very timely and they were here on time. The time before that was a much bigger issue. It took two weeks to get service, which is a little rough because it was in the middle of the summer. But they came in and everything was fixed. I recommend AHS.

My dishwasher door wasn't opening. The first time the techs came and checked it, we thought it was fixed. About a month or so later, I moved into the home where the dishwasher is and realized that the dishwasher door issue wasn't fixed. The vendor AHS used came back. The tech put another door on and he was really sweet. Yesterday, I was a bit frustrated because American Home Shield's automated system kept looping me. I had to hang up and then after the third time I call it will remember my ID. Other than that, it's fine. AHS has had somebody come out each time we have a claim.

Our problem initially was that the water was leaking out of the faucet out of the showerhead even though the faucet was off. A plumber came out and replaced a new cartridge. His name is Mike and he was excellent. We had it where within 24 hours, if it wasn't exactly right, then they'd come out and fix it again. It was right but the only thing that happened was the handle needed a little bit of adjusting. They came out and did that equally as well. That company is great. I wouldn't go with another plumbing company except that one and if somebody asked me about a warranty for their home, I would definitely mention American Home Shield.

We submitted a claim for our AC through the website of AHS and it was smooth, user-friendly and nothing too technical for people. The tech explained we would have had to dump in a whole bunch of Freon and that may not necessarily fix the problem. So, my wife and I just worked on some things and we figured it out and went ahead and had him replace that whole unit. It was great.

The garage door was not opening. When we tried to use the button that's on the wall to open the door, the door would open about a foot and then it wouldn't open anymore. The tech said the coils were broken. He showed it to me, and I did see the broken coils. He had to order the part, and then he had to come back. He said he could fix it in about 20 minutes and he did. Now the garage door works fine. The tech was professional and he worked really fast.

We have been using AHS home insurance since we have moved to the house one & half years ago. We did not have a problem with AHS so far since we haven't have any issues until recently when our AC started malfunctioning and asked help from AHS. After getting an AHS representative one hour holding the line, the agent quickly charged me $75.00 for service fee (w/o any service) and promised to get me in touch with somebody in 24 hr. It did not happen and nobody contacted us. Next day again after waiting for another 1 hour, the agent told me that they could not make contact with the repair team and therefore, cannot send anybody or transfer the repair contract to another party. Then the next day, they also played the same game and that being Friday, they informed us that only on Monday a "special team" would be able to decide whether my HVAC issue could be transferred to another party for consideration.
The weekend temperatures were predicted to be around 100 degrees Fahrenheit. This was not the only concern, my wife was pregnant and sick. She needed some basic comfort urgently. Also, this delay was well above 24h - 48h timeframe that AHS claims and therefore, a straight breach of contract. I have seen many other insurance companies who can at least try to help honestly. AHS, on the other hand, is on the pick of hypocrisy, disservice and simply a money guzzling insurance company to our experience. I suggest please consider other home insurance companies and refrain from AHS. They cannot provide any assistance when you need it, can only make stupid "special" excuses for not able to provide any help and extracts money shamelessly from consumers at their time of necessities.
Thanks for providing your feedback. I was sorry to hear that we had not provided a suitable resolution for your malfunction. We would like to speak to you more pertaining to your claim. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

My pump wasn't working right so I did a claim with American Home Shield. The challenge I had was with the representatives on the phone because I could not understand them very well. Their accent was so heavy. Plus, I'm halfway hard of hearing. That just added to the difficulty. A tech came out and was very professional and to the point. He looked at the pump, assessed it, and troubleshot it. It was precise. The tech was right on the money and did a good job. Having my home warranty definitely helps with the finances. I pay monthly for quite a while. But the repairs are expensive so that offsets expenses. That's a great advantage. I’m satisfied with American Home Shield and I recommended them to my brother-in-law. He's going with them.

People came out to take a look at my AC, and the heating as well. It was very cold and it stopped functioning. The motor was not circulating air in the unit in my townhouse. The contractor did the repair, for which I'm very thankful and satisfied. The two fellows who came out looked at my filter. It was dirty and needed replacing. They told me to replace that once every two or three months, to make sure to take time to take a look at it and see whether it is dusty. That was a good thing for them to do, because they didn't have to do all of that not when I purchased them while they were here. They also did the work of replacing the motor, and things worked out fine for me. They started the heating up and it worked very well.
After that, I called them to let them know that I wanted to make certain that everything would all right for summer. Because the weather was at a temperature that they could not at the first visit set the air conditioning, because it was done during wintertime. “Will you please come back and take a look see?” And they did. They saw no real problems and gave me a thumbs up, and that was the end of that service I needed.

AHS is worth getting, but pay attention to what's not covered. When they came in to fix my AC and my coils were bad, my coils were covered, but the AC people charged me a lot more money for a lot of extra stuff they said they had to do in order to fix it, that wasn't covered.

We've had good service through American Home Shield. We have American Home Shield for our primary home as well and also for other homes that we've owned in the past. It's always been a good deal to have them. From our experience so far, and especially in what's going on right now or what they have done for us recently, it's really easy. People come out quickly. It's handled reasonably in a timely manner.
The most recent electrical issue was at a rental. Our tenant had a medical device that required to be plugged in, but once you would plug it in, it would trip the breaker. Everything is going great with American Home Shield. They were working through my property manager because the house that they were working on is a rental house. I would highly recommend American Home Shield's service. It's user-friendly and when it comes down to the big ticket items, it covers a lot and it's definitely worth its weight.

I'm not too happy with the service from American Home Shield. They called and told me that the part wasn't in, and they would keep me posted. Other than that, I was getting emails here and there. They had me wait for an igniter for almost six months. That was a long time to wait before they said that they couldn’t get the part and that they would have to replace my stove. I was expecting good customer service with a turnaround that would be substantial to the needs that I have. If people are thinking of AHS, they might want to do a little research first and look at the response time.

American Home Shield has no direct number to their corporate office. I've tried to look it up for two straight days. My experience with them has been awful. My air conditioner has been broken and the contractor came out one time in May and put Freon in it. I had to file another claim on 6-2, and the guy was here on 6-5. We've been waiting on American Home Shield to authorize a part until yesterday. Yesterday, they authorized one that wasn't available. So they're now having to go through and reauthorize something else that will work and see if it's available. So I'm very mad at them. But I had a plumbing claim with them that got resolved fairly reasonably. I thought I had a good place until this air conditioner situation happened. They are really doing some bad stuff with their customer service.

My AC was blowing out warm air. The tech put Freon in it. He was very professional, nice and he explained things. We thought that was it but the AC is leaking all the time. So, the tech came back to seal something. He said it was leaking and he had to add more Freon in it for the second trip he came out. During the claims process, I don’t appreciate talking to a foreigner, because they're on this script and they really can’t help with anything. I'm also not happy that AHS and I are doing another quick fix. The air conditioning has needed work done two years in a row and AHS has fulfilled their end. But if it's going to keep happening, do I pay $75 every time? Another time, the washing machine broke and I didn't even know it was covered. Customer service is poor, and it takes forever to get somebody to physically come out to your home.
This time, our AC had a clogged drain pipe and and it's a pain that you have to wait around for somebody to call you. He explained everything he had done and he didn't mind explaining it to my godbrother that lives across the street because I didn't know what he was talking about. He was very nice and helpful. We have the warranty for everything in the house, because things break down. And expenses are huge. With having a warranty, it helps cut the cost on certain things enough. Dishwasher, stove, refrigerator, disposal, garage door openers, air conditioner. I've had some claims in the past that have been really bad through the years. But I'm pleased. The man who recently came was very nice and knowledgeable. I really like him. Through the 26 years, I've used other companies and they were so nasty. It was like I was inconveniencing them to come out and take care of something.
I called on a Thursday. He didn't know whether he was going to be able to come Friday, Saturday, Sunday or even Monday. We live in the south. And I thought, “Okay. Maybe he could come out Sunday, Monday, everything.” He said, “I am four miles from you. I will turn around and come back.” He didn't have to do that, he was on his way home. He came, and he spent two and a half hours and fixed the problem. That says a lot about his company. He owns it. So I was quite pleased. We're having problems with the air conditioner. It's nothing that he did wrong. There's something else wrong with it. Because it's not really cooling. But it's nice to hear, from a customer's point of view, how a company does. Because you're writing your line on it. You're expecting that whoever you have contracts with, that they're going to carry out their duties and do things, otherwise some people will go to another company or cancel it or ask for somebody else.
You need to get a warranty service. I don't care who you use, just get a warranty on it. I've seen all my neighbors who don't, and they fork out $2,000, $3,000 to get things. And I said, “You need to get a warranty. It's the best thing.” “No, no.” “Don't you understand? I pay a copay.” “Well, how much do you pay?” “125. And then whatever happens to it, if they can't repair it, they'll replace it. You‘ve just spent $3,000 to buy a new refrigerator. All I did was pay my copay.” And they don't understand that. But that's a no brainer.

American Home Shield is okay sometimes. But sometimes, they send the wrong folks out here and they don't have the part. They had to put a motor in something else and it took them two weeks before they could get my washing machine working. I asked, "Why don't you just go on and get me another washing machine?" They said as long as they can find a part, they will repair it but I had to suffer for three weeks. So sometimes, I don't recommend American Home Shield.

The contractor is an owner-operator company. He got upset, and he wouldn't come back out to do the repair. American Home Shield immediately assigned another contractor, who was out to the home back in October. And then they got on it right away. Now, it's still open, because there's an issue getting repair parts. I know other folks in South Carolina here that have had air conditioning problems and they're experiencing the same thing. So I don't fault American Home Shield or the contractor on that. I've had AHS for three years. I constantly recommend them to other people that I come across in business or personal. They're great. It's a good system and it's prompt.

I've made two claims in the last three weeks with AHS. I made a third one last week, but the girl, either didn't understand or she didn't do something she needed to do, because the service provider hasn't contacted me to schedule an appointment. The first time I called, I had to call because there was an issue with the website. When I called, the IVR basically insisted that I make a payment, make my $80, before they would switch me to a person to file their claim and that rubbed me the wrong way.
Then I got hold of an individual and he said, “We're having system problems. Can you call back?” I did. Then they scheduled the provider. The provider was very good and professional. They sent a person out pretty quickly. He replaced a part within the primary air conditioning unit for my house and tested some other testing, and said, “You should be good to go.”
But within a couple of days, the same problem was recurring. I called American Home Shield a second time and explained the situation. They said, “We'll send somebody out.” And got a call from the vendor again. They sent the same technician out. This time, he said, “You're low on Freon.” He charged it up with Freon. Freon is not covered by the home warranty, so I paid him a couple of hundred bucks out of pocket.
Then within 24 hours, the machine was acting up again. It was doing the same thing it was the first time. So I called American Home Shield and got hold of a young lady. She said, “You have an outstanding balance.” I haven’t looked at my bank statement yet but I'm concerned that maybe I paid the service fee twice. I really didn't feel like I should pay up more than once since the problem didn't get fixed the first time.
I also had one other claim that was filed for the refrigerator. I got irked about something and I ended up calling their corporate office. I got hold of some lady and she just transferred me back to the call center in Timbuktu or wherever they're located. So I have a bad feeling about American Home Shield at the moment. I've been shopping around for alternatives because they're up for renewal in the late fall, and I think I can probably get some comparable coverage for a lot less money with some other vendor.

I called American Home Shield and they said it would be a couple of days because they had to contact the contractor. They gave me his phone number, I called him myself, and he was out in a day. The reps were helpful, and then it was professional. The main drain was backed up and the contractor had to run that machine they use from the sink all the way out. The tech was really good. It was a few days before we were able to use the kitchen. But everything is perfect now. AHS honors their commitments. They do what they say they are going to do as far as the claim service.

The last two instances we have used American Home Shield's service, there were issues getting repairs. Most recently, it was our AC unit. I called them, they sent a company out to look at it who determined it was the coil. Their technician said, “Oh, I can't give any quotes. We have a salesman who’ll come out and give you the quote to fix it or what your options are.”
Within an hour, the guy came out with Air Dynasty and told us, “We can replace the coil, but it’s an old unit. So it will need additional work later. For the same price, your warranty will cover the coil. But if you want to get a new unit, you pay us $7,500. Then we'll turn it into American Home Shield as a coil, and you pay us the difference.” And it was just a big, convoluted conversation. We sent him on his way. We couldn't get anyone with AHS to address the problem. So we had to get an outside contractor to come and replace the coil for us for $2,500. We paid for the service call for the guy to come out and our monthly payment for the service. I called them and sent them emails. They've responded to nothing.
The last three times we've called AHS this year, the contractors have been less than professional and efficient. For the refrigerator, it took us three weeks to get it fixed. The tech came after three days the first time. And he said, “Well, I can't get the part.” Then he called and said, “Okay, I've got the part, but I can't get back out there for another week.” And when he came, he said, “I'm only a one-person shop.” So why would a company like that go to a person that cannot handle the business? We did get it fixed after three visits.
We have a pool. We paid extra for the pool equipment. We requested service, paid the $75 copay, then waited for the company. Made the appointment, nobody came. When I called the company back, as AHS told me to do, they said, “Oh, it was cancelled by American Home Shield.” Then AHS didn't know any reason why that was canceled so they rescheduled it. After waiting for two weeks, they came out and then the coordinator said, “That's not covered under your plan.” So we paid that $75 fee, plus our payment to AHS, and we still had to go out to an outside company and paid $300 to get it fixed. This is our second year with AHS, and it has not been the same. I have not been happy.

When I had an issue with the pool filter, Aqua Care Pool Service had it done in a day. So far, they got a new pool customer. I decided that I'm going to change pool carriers for now because Aqua Care has been real helpful and very knowledgeable compared to some of the other ones that I've talked to over the years. The biggest problem I had was I had to track down, through American Home Shield, a day or two later, who I was supposed to be in contact with or who was supposed to be contacting me.
In the past, when I put in the request, it's popped up within a few hours or almost instantly who the contractor was that was coming to my house to do the work. This time, it was three or four days one time. Then that person never showed or called. Aqua Care was the second provider that American Home Shield contacted and I had no clue until I finally reached out via chat session. They populated it. I reached out to Aqua Care and said, “I don't know if you guys got the info or not.” The rep said, “We just got it a little bit ago.” There was some time delay there and I wasn't real thrilled about it.
I shouldn't have to call. American Home Shield shouldn't provide me with a number and a message that says, “Please contact this contractor.” They should be contacting the contractor and the contractor should be contacting me. I should not have to be following up. I shouldn't have to do the legwork. I'm paying $100 deductible and $1,000 a year. I also hate the fact that I can't choose my own contractor. I've had the heating and air come looked at and American Home Shield sent a heating and air company. I didn't know anything about the provider or the product that they offered. After they came and I did some research on them, they got decent reviews. But I didn't care for the products that they installed. Being able to choose my contractor would be a very beneficial thing.
But so far, for the ones that I’ve submitted and they've come out and done the service, I can't complain. I've gotten the service and it was covered that's why I renewed with American Home Shield. Once I did get through all the legwork and the phone calls of having to chase down who I was supposed to be talking to and actually talk to the contractor, I never had a problem with the contractors.

The tech for my air conditioner did a really good job. He checked the back and then I gave him info from the other people who had come out. There was a big delay in the approval of one part for shipment. I'm a senior citizen and in order for him to get me and my three dogs in cooler temperature, he went out and purchased a part, and then just replaced the part once the shipment came in from American Shield. So he got my AC going because of him being willing to do that. I've had people call me to try and get me to switch from AHS with lower rates that they were promising. But for the years I've been with American Shield, I've had my washing machine, garbage disposal, and hot water heater replaced. I have confidence and that's why I've stuck with them for these many years.

The AC system in my house was not working. I put in a claim and as far as AHS, they were fine. My issue is with the contractor they sent out. They were not wanting to fix anything and wanted to wait till there is a catastrophic failure in my system. I had this exact same issue and they came out about three weeks ago. They've been out twice and pretty much did nothing. I still have an issue. When they came out at the end of last week, I was unable to be home. I had someone else there.

When I just signed up with American Home Shield, I had a claim for a stove job. They gave me the contractor's name and number. Every time I called the number, it went directly to voicemail. One day, I luckily got through. They said that they were going to come. We set up a date and time. The date and time came and passed but no one ever showed up. I requested from American Home Shield that I didn't want that contractor because they never responded. But customer service said, "We have to give them three tries." I said, "I'm paying for this and I've been without a stove for a month now because you guys won't come." Needless to say, we've gone into three months now without our stove.
I called American Home Shield and told them that I was canceling. I couldn't take it anymore and I hated their service. I told them to just refund me all my money and take me off their list. They put me in touch with a resolution manager and we talked. I agreed to give them another shot. I got a different contractor. By the time their tech came to do the stove, the first contractor called and said they wanted to come out. I said, "Absolutely not." He was telling me that they had to fire a lot of people. He also told me things that I didn't need to know. It was horrible service.
The tech with the second contractor wasn't able to repair the stove because he needed to order parts. The parts came here so the tech will be coming next week. This claim was fine. I also had a claim before for my air conditioner and I got a good contractor. They kept their promise and they came when they said that they would.
I'm still very wary of American Home Shield. My sister wants to keep going with them but I'm done with them. I'm sure we'll end up with somebody else that's cruddy like we had before. I was given such a hard time and I felt no one was gonna help me. I went on the internet to look up reviews for the company and they had such poor reviews.
While I was so mad that month and I was waiting for someone to come fix the stove, I called around to other companies. I found out that everybody else was cheaper. I had to pay $125 for someone to come out with my home warranty while with Amazon Home Warranty, it was either 65 or 75. I also pay $60 a month for American Home Shield while it's 50 with Amazon. I told my sister, "I don't know why we're paying for American Home Shield. They don't keep their word."
I wish American Home Shield can give me an option to pick my own contractor because I'm in a rural area. I live in South Carolina and the nearest major city is 30 miles away. The last time they were going to send somebody, it was a guy from Charlotte, North Carolina and that is two hours away. He fixed bathroom exhaust fans. My issue was with the stovetop. I refused to talk to them. The service with the guy was cancelled and American Home Shield found someone closer.
I won't do a service request online because I know it's gonna be horrible. I make sure I called during the day and as early as possible so I can get someone that I can actually talk to and understands what I'm saying. For the issue with the stove, I called American Home Shield's customer service once and asked to speak with a manager. They told me that they couldn't let me talk to a manager. They were on the phones too because they were being bombarded by phone calls. It got so bad. Right now, American Home Shield sucks. I should be able to call them. I should be able to go online in the middle of the night if I want to use them. But I can't because they can't be trusted.

The contractor did real good with the claim. They fixed the pool in a timely manner. There had been times that I’d called about our refrigerator. We were having problems with it with the icemaker till finally, the contractor came and put a new part and that solved the problem. I kinda gave up on the dishwasher though. I'm paying all this money and American Home Shield keeps brushing me off. It was several times that the contractor came out. I don't know if American Home Shield should have replaced it with a new dishwasher but if you come out three or four times, then something's wrong. We can’t use the dishwasher even though I called several times. The water just sits there. I'm thinking of changing services with somebody else. I'm kind of upset with all this. I was loyal on paying for two houses and American Home Shield wasn't loyal enough to fix the dishwasher. Another thing is we always have to wait forever to get through. I would never recommend them.

I signed up to get a summer checkup. When South Placer came out, they checked both my units initially, and one of them checked out to be bad with a capacitor. Then I called back American Home Shield and the service was signed up again for South Placer. They came out and replaced the capacitor. The first guy was very communicative and helpful. The second guy kind of knew what he needed to do. He did it in about five minutes. He was heading back in his vehicle when I said, "Well, are you gonna turn the thing on and check it out as long as it comes on inside?" He said, "I can or you can do it." So that was the only issue I had with him. He was just there to change a part and he did it. He was more or less getting back on the road. But he did stay around to turn the air conditioner on inside and then in a couple of minutes, it came on, which was normal.
Initially, our house came with a one-year home warranty and we saw the advantage of having it in that year. The only thing that I did not check real closely was if all the appliances were listed as being on the list. The one thing that was not on the list was our trash compactor. So for new homebuyers or existing homebuyers that are buying a used house, they should make sure that everything that is listed on there is what they want covered. When I had an issue with my trash compactor, I had to come out of pocket for it. When we had a problem with our dishwasher, it took us about five months to get that squared away. They kept coming out and trying to repair the existing dishwasher. They misdiagnosed it several times. They had to come out the third time. Then we did get a new dishwasher eventually.

My air conditioning stopped functioning. I put in a service ticket for American Home Shield. A company was assigned. I called the company. Guy answered the phone. I said, “I hadn't heard from anyone yet.” He said, “My son does the ticketing. Usually, if you didn't get a phone call this morning, means we're not coming today.” I said, “Okay. I would just follow up. I didn't get a phone call this morning.” He said, “My son's planning on doing installs on Saturday.” I said, “Okay. I'm just finding out if you guys come out on the weekends.” He said, “We're not coming out this weekend ‘cause my son is doing installs. He's the one that runs the business.” I said, “I was just asking ‘cause we're planning on going away for the weekend.” He said, “I can come out late in the afternoon if you'd like to take a look.” I said, “All right. That's cool.”
He came out. Nice guy. He checked the unit. He was extremely thorough and walked me through what was going on as far as why he did this, what he was checking for. It was very informative. He climbed up in the attic. The cost was next to nothing. So, everything went well. Then we went away for the weekend. I get digital thermostats, so I was able to check in sometime around Saturday night. It stopped functioning again. So, they sent me an email, “How is everything going?” I replied back, “I still have an issue. Should I go back to American Home Shield?” I was told yes, so I put in another notification to American Home Shield saying it wasn't fixed.
I called the guy to follow up on it. He said, “All right. I had a feeling you might need a compressor. But we replaced the part. We put some Freon in it and it was working.” He said, “But by this point, we probably need a new compressor.” June 7th is when they ordered the parts. I didn't hear from them again, so I called again the following Monday. He was a little abrupt on the phone. He said, “We processed the parts.” I said, “Okay. I just wanna make sure that things are moving forward ‘cause I hadn't heard anything.”
He said, “Yeah. It's ordered. Right now, I got a family emergency. So, we'll have to get back to you.” I said, "All right. I understand." I'm not really upset about the whole situation. It's just that I don't know what to do as far as when I'm gonna get it fixed. He was nice enough. He answered all my questions way better than the guy that came out last year.
My microwave also stopped working. It's been a real pain ‘cause that's been at least seven phone calls. That was because GE didn't provide a report back to American Home Shield in order to let them know that the part’s no longer available. Then every time they called GE, they didn't get a response back. But I finally got a notification that they're gonna replace it. My refrigerator also stopped making ice and that got replaced right away, but then I got a dented unit. So, AHS has heard from me a lot and everyone has been very nice. They always say, “We're gonna follow up on this and we're gonna call you back.” Sometimes, they do but sometimes, they don't.

The dryer was not heating and making a terrible noise. And the washer didn't do anything. It clanked, banged, and stopped on its own. I called AHS and they said someone would be out to check the appliances out. They told me that I would be called within the next 48 hours and they would set an appointment to come out. They sent My Appliance Repair and if I had to call an appliance place myself, that's who I'd call again.
Within the next very few days, the tech came out, put a new part in my dryer, and that was perfectly acceptable. But my washer was declared dead on arrival. It was not going to work again and it was quite old. It was a Sears and it was not doing a good job anyway. So I started shopping. I called American Home Shield and I told them what was going on. they told me that what they had in stock, which was nowhere near what I had. Then they explained the buyout program and I said I’d like to do that. I filled out the paperwork on the computer and I've never gotten one call from American Home Shield since that chat. Nor have I saved any money, which is not at all acceptable. I was told I’d receive money, not to replace the washer, but an allowance of X number of dollars. But I never received that.
I’ve already gotten a new washing machine and I had to go buy one that matched my dryer, so that had to come out of my pocket. So much for American Home Shield. I’m really upset about this. If they send me a check, I’ll be through complaining about it. I've been through a lot and I'm not going to worry myself over a washer. I’ve just had it with AHS. He came with a new one and installed it, and it worked. He was very polite and professional.

The contractor came out about my washer and my dryer. They looked at it and said that it was okay. They said it was old, and that was it. And when they get that old, you usually have to get another one. They said it was unrepairable. The washer would shake when it spins. They said that they saw a penny down in the tub. But they never even showed me a penny. I know there was a penny on top of my dryer. But I had swept behind the dryer three weeks before that. And found the penny, and I put it on top of the dryer. I never lost it. So, I don't know if that was what caused them to think it came out of a washing machine or what. They talk very nice, but they didn’t do anything.
I have so much trouble getting through to AHS. And then, after I explain what my problem is, I'm at the leisure of the company to get it fixed. It should be a better system in place where it's more people-oriented. In other words, I am able to get information that I need. And if my claim should be escalated, then they shouldn't give me a problem of doing that. There should be somebody else who I can escalate a problem, and then somebody else to solve it, whereas this one person doesn't want to.
I needed the problem escalated on my washing machine and dryer. The first thing the young lady said was she doesn't come to work until the afternoon. And then, I asked her, “Well, you don't do teamwork where if you don't come to work in the afternoon, you can leave it for someone in the morning?” “No.” So then, it just lingered on. I just got tired. I went and bought a washer and dryer. But when they brought the washer, the washer was broken. So, when they came back and put the dryer in, instead of putting it through the hole, they put it in the drywall. AHS doesn't cover that that little thing that goes from the dryer to the outside. It has just been one problem after another.

American Home Shield has done a very good job. They were very timely in responding to my claim. The icemaker stopped working and it seemed to be a reoccurring problem with our refrigerator. Initially, we were given a technician through a company and he came and checked it out. He was going to get back to me but I got a notification from American Home Shield that a different technician was going to come out with a different company. That time was a little frustrating because one technician came out, looked at it and said that it would be about two weeks before I could get the part. A week later, a different technician came and then, it was another couple of days. So, I didn't know why the other company wasn't able to finish the job and AHS sent another technician. Other than that little hiccup, it's been a good experience with the technicians we've had.
American Home Shield is a good company. I like that everything is online. I don't have to call or wait on hold and it's done quickly once I submit the claim through the app. It's a $75 fee for the contractor to come out and check whatever it is, and a lot of the house systems are covered so I know that saves me a lot of money because it could be a lot more money for me as the homeowner fixing things than it is to have that security with Home Shield.

I always had great experience in the past. That's one reason I went back with American Home Shield. I had a claim with a refrigerator and that company was top-notch. They communicated very well, and they went above and beyond. AHS is a great service. However, the NW Air Care didn't go well. I run a business here in town and I use a local AC company. I could have called them and saved a lot of money instead of going through American Home Shield. Because it cost me $100 to make a claim, and then I had to pay an additional $350 something for the Freon. But I know that stuff is expensive.
The tech said my unit was empty, so that tells me that it's going to do it again. That's disappointing. It is still cooling. But if he didn't repair a leak, then that means it's gonna do it again. I'm not gonna pay that $350 again once it leaks out all the Freon. And then, I kept telling him that the upstairs unit would flip from cold to heat on its own. And he didn't look at it. He told me to change the batteries. And then when I looked at it, it's hardwired. It doesn't even have batteries. That's disappointing as well.

When I submit a claim to American Home Shield, I call and the automated service comes on and takes it from there. If you had just some questions, it's hard to talk to somebody. You never get to speak to a customer service agent. Last year, I did not like the contractor because he told me the type of home I have will never get cold. But the guy who came out two weeks ago was excellent. He was there for 30 minutes, got the issue done and my house has been cooler than it was last year. I use AHS for a lot of services such as air conditioner and plumbing but right now, I've been doing the research on different companies, and if I call someone and I need service quick, it’s cheaper. I can call a plumbing company and they will probably charge me $60 an hour or whatever for a service charge, when I pay $50 a month plus $100 surcharge. As soon as I finish with a few more companies, I will probably go ahead and cancel.

The tech who came was so knowledgeable. He figured out what the problem was. He also had a piece in his car and put it on. Immediately, the air conditioner started working. He fixed what needed to be fixed. It's just that I still had a little problem switching the temperature as my thermostat wasn't working properly. I told the technician and he said he was gonna request it. I got a text message saying there were gonna do the job but I haven't heard anything else. The contractor came out and was punctual and really professional. They inspected my whole AC unit and they ran tests on it. They said that everything was looking good and running fine. But I'm still having problems with my AC unit. The problem is not the heat pump like I thought it was. It was a piece that’s connected to it. It’s the electrical breaker which I'm having looked at. I tried speaking to a rep but everybody is going to electronic phone systems now so it's almost impossible to really speak with a human being. Other than that, customer service is okay.
I like having a paper copy of my warranty and what is covered. I asked American Home Shield in the past to give me a new copy. The oldest copy of my contract that I have was from 2019. All they go by is the phone number, which I don't particularly like. My monthly premium keeps going up. I keep making my premium so American Home Shield better has me covered. Overall, they have good service.

When I first started with American Home Shield, they were excellent and I was telling everybody about it. I got most of my family and in-laws on the home warranty. But they got off it because the service was horrible. My father, for one, has several properties and we had all of his tenants’ properties on the home warranty. We would call American Home Shield and be on hold forever. I assisted my dad with his business. I kept asking to speak to upper management. I put it on speaker and I would be on there for hours. It was just ridiculous. All of a sudden, we got disconnected and nobody wouldn’t call us back. I got wounds from that. My father got off the warranty.
I’ve had American Home Shield for a while and I kept it as was in my best interest to have some type of insurance. There has been such a change now in the home warranty's service. It has improved tremendously. And although I’m not happy with the coverage part of it as far as with the AC, it is what it is. I understand that if my AC actually goes out and American Home Shield replaces it, the limit is only worth $3,000. We’ve had people that had to get an AC and it was between 6,000 to 9,000. Some people said the 3,000 was not gonna cover the cost. But it’s better than nothing. We had AC claims and the home warranty had done the repairs.
We have a rental property that we have coverage on and the tenants had problems with their AC. It would sometimes take two days before someone comes out. Right now, we got 150 degrees here in Phoenix, Arizona. When it’s hot like that and we tell the tenants that nobody would be coming out for a couple of days, that would be pretty hard. Sometimes it’s even hotter inside and we just have to wait. But we have comfort knowing that we have some type of coverage.
Now, I've been able to tell others that recently American Home Shield is doing pretty good. They’re answering and we’re getting somebody out. Before, they were overwhelmed because they were just really busy. They had a lot of people. But if they know that they have all these customers, then maybe they need to hire more people. I told the home warranty that. They must have done it.

Some of my claims were wonderful. If there's a problem, they assign a contractor, and the contractor is out, it’s a quick diagnosis, and then that's good. In general, the system is good. It's just the contractors. My washing machine went out in January. And it wasn't until this month that I got my replacement. So, imagine that. Five months without a washing machine. AHS did one contractor who claimed to be working on it. And then we had one contractor that I had a problem with. They said they showed up, but they didn't. I was here the whole time.
Then, there was a new contractor assigned and they knocked it out. The problems are not in the plan or in the way it's set up. The problems that I always run into are with the contractors. So, it's who American Home Shield deals with at a local level. It's hit or miss. Some of them are great. There are some that should be banned from ever working in anybody's house. But the great thing about that is when you run into them with AHS, you can say, “I don't ever want to see this company again.” And they will put them on a list. They will never send them to your house again. So, when you run into a bad contractor, there's a fix for it. But it seems fraudulent.
I would imagine that, at a certain time, if they get many bad reviews, that AHS would just drop the contractor. And maybe they do. Another problem might be that, say, we have a very old air conditioning system. So, every year, somebody gets to come out, do some job to it, sometimes five jobs. Sometimes, the amount of work they put into these things baffles me. But it's not always the same contractor. So, there could be a problem, and then the problem occurs, and then a new contract comes out.
And sometimes, that's good. Because many times, I've heard there's nothing wrong with that, then it's something else. I'm not a tech guy. I don't know whether who's telling the truth or not. But there's a fix for that too. Just like you can say, “I don't want this company coming to my house anymore,” you can also tell them, “I do want this company to always respond.” The companies that I banned have all ran to clients in Jacksonville. They have no business going to anybody's house. I just didn't know those things initially. But if I had known that when I run into a good contractor, I can specify to always use them. And I'll do that from now on.
Even if they don't look like they know what they're doing, you can just say, “Okay, don't send these guys anymore.” If I knew that eight years ago, my whole experience would be cool. My only negatives are dealing with bad contractors. People who say they show up and don't, or say they replace something. “I replaced your washing machine pump.” “Okay, you've only been up there 20 minutes. There's no way you did that.” I'm not following them around.

I have two contracts with American Home Shield - I have one on my primary home and one on my rental property. On my primary home, I've had excellent service. My refrigerator, dishwasher, and air conditioning unit were fixed with just one visit and no problems. But my last claim experience for the rental property was not very pleasant. My tenant was not getting any air and on the first visit, the contractor was supposed to call me 30 minutes in advance but they did not. Then, the technician did something and he told my tenant that it should be working and to let the unit run all night. My tenant did that and it was still not cooling. He called me back and then I called back to have the people go back out.
I called AHS because I couldn't get through at all to the actual vendor. All I could get was their voicemail and it kept saying, "Send an email." I held on the phone from about 4:30 to almost 5:00. When 5:00 came, a recording came on that said, "Our hours are from 8:00 to 5:00. Please call us back the next day," or something to that effect. On Friday, I had not heard anything so I just took a chance. I got to my property at about 5:20 and the tech showed up at about 5:45 but no one had called me to say he'll be there in such and such a time. Then, when he got there, he said that he could not make the repair and he would have to get approval because of what needed to be done.
I asked if there was something that he could do temporarily to give my tenant some relief and he said he couldn't do it. When I got home, I emailed the company and told them what happened and I wasn't pleased. I got a response back that they would have to get approval, but AHS would have to buy the part. But this has been my only bad experience. I did hear some great news that said I could go and get a fan for my tenant for up to 250.

I've had American Home Shield since I bought this home in 2018 and I used them for a number of different things. For the most part, they were responsive and helped me figure out what I needed to have figured out. I only had one claim that I had to figure out on my own. When I have claims, I just go to the American Home Shield website. Usually within 24 hours, I get a phone call.
When I first moved in, the refrigerator didn't work so they helped me figure that out. I didn't have to use the warranty again for a while, up until this summer, where I had both my air units and some of the electronics with the pool go out. The air unit was really expensive. It happened at the same time as the pool electronics. I was pleased to see that American Home Shield was able to help take care of both those things at one time and helped me avoid such a huge cost.
The tech I had for the pool was very responsive and he communicated via text message, which was perfect for me because that's the easiest way for people to get a hold of me. He was very easy to work with and he kept me in the loop along the way. Right now, there are shortages on just about everything. It took a while but the tech explained about that.
I liked that when he came to do the work, he was able to work on the pool outside without having to come into the home given that it's still a very COVID environment. He would send me videos of the key major work that he was doing to follow in the loop about what was happening and why. He would show me what he was looking at, what he was working on, and what he was changing out. He would send a couple of videos from my actual pool and tell me about things to look for to maintain it so I wouldn't have the problem again. I recommend American Home Shield. For the $68 I’m paying a month, I get a good return on my investment.

Our unit is an air condition and heater together. In November of last year, my heater went off and on. American Home Shield sent a company out close to December and it didn't get fixed until January. They fixed the control panel and it didn't need a thermostat. Then, this month, the air was going off and on. The air condition man came and he saw what it was doing and I told him the heater was doing the same thing before. What ended up happening was that the same part was replaced, the only difference was he put a thermostat in.
Within six months, the same control board went out. I paid $100 for the heater and now another $100 for the air conditioner and it shouldn't have been two charges. I haven't called American Home Shield yet. I needed papers from both because they like to email everything and we don't have a printer, so we didn't have the proof of the part that the two different companies fixed. But that was why when I called and reported the problem the first time, I wanted somebody that worked on air and heat.
I was with Old Republic and I would've been with them for 14 years. My niece was the one who got me to switch over saying that this is a good one because it's through Costco. I have Costco and I also have Costco auto insurance so I said I would try it and see what happens. That's the first time I've ever used it and it went up to $60 or $70 after having it only a year. I was kinda upset about that. Old Republic took them over 10 years before they increased and I didn't have a lot of problems. If this goes up every year, then I might as well go back to Old Republic. Other than that, the people that AHS sent were really nice.

The main issue I have is American Home Shield's customer service is difficult to communicate with. It's hard to understand the people on the phone, very long wait time. But there was a specific issue that I had with my gas range that I had somebody come out from Sears to look at my range. And they said, "Okay, we just need to order a part." And I waited and waited. A month later, I called Sears back and asked them what was going on and they said, "I'll look into it and get back to you." But no one got back to me. In the meantime, the problem with my range was the burners weren't automatically lighting. So, I've been manually lighting with a lighter or a match to turn on my stove, and that's just how I've been using it ever since.
And then, I got a survey sent to me to fill out for American Home, which I explained the issue with my range. And a week or so later, I got a call from someone, again, very difficult to understand her, and she told me that, "The parts are not available for your range repair, so we're going to replace it." Again, that was a 45-minute phone call to get it and that was too long. They should have known exactly what kind of range I had, but she asked me to measure it. She knew that it was a gas range, but she kept asking me, "Are there coils or is it a glass top?" I said, "It's not any of those. It's a gas range." And she just could not understand what I was saying. So, I sent her two pictures of it.
That same day, I got an email from them asking me to go shopping for a range or take the cashout option. So, I just clicked on the cashout option. Then yesterday, I got a call from a lady who actually spoke English and we talked at length about the issue, and she was very good. Her name was Shaquel and she was excellent and talked to me about that particular service request. I'm waiting for a check from them so I can go shop for a new range.
I have an ongoing issue with my refrigerator that over the last four years, I've had somebody out three times to fix the issue, and he put a band-aid on it every time. I've since learned what needs to be done to fix that fridge and I'm just going to do it myself. It ices up and it continues to do that. It does it once a year and he didn't fix it. With the AC, that was an issue where there was nothing wrong with it and I just didn't understand what to do. There was a GFCI outlet in my basement that I needed to reset and that was all needed to be done. The guy explained that to me. It's working fine now. That guy did a good job. But I would steer others away from American Home Shield.

Aside from this last claim, I've had several issues over the last amount of times that I've been with AHS where they'd have to send somebody back several times. They've sent techs out seven times to address the same issue. Also, if you want to talk to somebody, it takes forever to get somebody on the phone. They said, "It's not complete. The part's bad, but it's not completely bad." So, we went three weeks without air conditioning. We weren't too happy because they had to come back four times. But the guys were very nice and clean. We're satisfied. We're happy that they came out and fixed it.

The clothes dryer was not heating up. I filed online and the website was easy to navigate and understand where all the options were. I received emails and some text messages to let me know that somebody was going to take a look at the equipment. Mike came and from the get-go, I had the impression that he knew what he was doing right away. He was very prepared to fix the equipment. He did a great job because he also explained some of the issues that might cause that type of problem. He went over what type of things go wrong with it. He was educating the customer and that was a plus. He ended up replacing a heating unit and that fixed the problem right away.
Between the time that I reported the issue with American Home Shield and the time that I actually got the machine fixed, it was about a week and a half. I was just hoping for a little faster response, overall, through the whole process with American Home Shield and the actual contractor company. But I understand that I have to get a diagnostic and then they have to come out. They have to wait for the part and then they have to come and replace it. Other than that, everything was excellent.

We had an experience with other companies prior to coming back to American Home Shield. Those companies were scammers and were awful. We now have American Home Shield on this property and it's been a few years. We also have a Florida property that we also have the home warranty on. We used their service for our dishwasher as when attempted to turn it on, it would beep beep beep. We tried three times. A guy came out and said it was one of two motherboards or both. He found the motherboard, came in the next day, replaced it, and the dishwasher worked. That was about two weeks ago. Now, the dishwasher doesn't work again. There's no water. The guy should have replaced both motherboards if he suspected that they were both a problem. Techs would be coming out on Wednesday to replace the motherboard the guy should have replaced when he was here before.
I prefer to call in my claims with American Home Shield and particularly this time because this is a repeat issue on the same dishwasher. I didn't want to get charged again because the issue should have been fixed the first time. If it were something simple, I could do the claim online. The first time I called, I had a lady from the Philippines. The whole take-a-picture-and-send-it-to-me thing was ridiculous. She finally gave up on that because it wouldn't work. That whole situation was probably something that happened because of the pandemic and in my estimation, that take a picture process should just go away. Why do I need to take a picture of my dishwasher? That seemed silly. I don't mind calling and it's not a long wait even on a Monday, which is the worst day to call. American Home Shield picked up my call pretty quickly so I was happy about that.
On the whole, I would recommend having a home warranty, especially if you have things that are older. Our furnace and our hot water heater are older so those things can come and go. $125 is a lot less than having someone either replace the hot water heater or fix it because I don't even know how much that kind of thing costs. If you don't have a lot of funds to replace your entire furnace out of pocket, it’s crazy. $43 a month is better than an $8,000 furnace.

I was over the phone with an agent from American Home Shield. They ask very little when I call. They just send me to the plumber that they use. I've used them for years. There are two sinks that feed out to the septic tank. Recently, the master bedroom sink is maxed up to the hallway sink. That sink was previously raised. So, it wasn't lower than the one in the bathroom in the hallway. The one was not going right. I had that fixed by another plumber but not AHS. But the one in the bathroom hallway started backing up again. The contractor came out and he was very nice. He cleaned it out like Roto-Rooter. But he said there was no way to make it perfect unless we take out both sinks, rip up our floor and repipe it. That's not happening. But he made it better. I've had them before and that company does a great job. AHS is very good.

We almost canceled AHS. We had two really bad experiences with them the last year. I told my husband, "I honestly would rather pay $50,000 out of pocket to fix something than ever deal with them again." But he said, "That's really stupid. I will call them from now on.” We had some major issues with our air conditioner last year. We were out half of June, all of July and half of August. The customer service from AHS was horrible. The dryer, they weren't nice about it, but I just paid for it out of pocket and had it done.
We also called when our sink backed up into our bathtub. We put the thing in online and it was great. But some plumber called me and said, "I can be out there in a week." I said, "I can't take a bath. I can't take a shower. I work at a hospital. I can't wait a week." So I called in. The customer service people at AHS said, "They don't have to come out within 48 hours. Have you read your contract?" I said, "Have you done without a shower?" Then when I asked them to have the supervisors call me back, they did not. I never ever heard from a supervisor, ever.
It also took a little time when I submitted a claim with AHS for our ceiling fans. The rep said, "They don't make your style of ceiling fan anymore." I said, "I gotta find something close." Because my whole living room, kitchen dining is open and the two that shorted out were in the living room, but they're right there with my kitchen and dining. I said, "I don't want everything not to match. But I don't want to pay for a bunch of ceiling fans that aren't bad yet either." The rep was very easy to work with and he sent me lots of pictures. 70% of the time, I've had a really good experience with AHS. We've recommended AHS to several people.

The contractor, JFrank Heating & Air, was great. I was very impressed. The technician came out the next day. He took the time to explain to me the different options and the issue I had. He didn’t come in and rush me, which is a lot of them do. He said that the compressor was frozen up and would submit the claim to American Home Shield. They would decide whether they would replace or repair the unit. The unit’s 35 years old so I don't want them to just put a compressor in it because there were also other issues that he wasn't able to diagnose because the unit wasn't running. I didn't have the time, with it being almost 90 degrees. I said, “I don't want to do this. I want to replace the entire unit.” He said, “You would have to call for the cash in lieu and see what they would offer for that and put that toward the replacement then.”
I'm not happy with the air conditioning with American Home Shield only wanting to give me $788 on the unit when the thing ultimately cost me close to five grand. I was also a little irritated with the cash in lieu portion. They never sent me an email with the dollar amount. I found that out through my contractor and it wasn't initiated by American Home Shield. I had to call and the first person I talked to last week was horrible. She was of no help. She put me on hold then came back and said, “Okay, I've submitted the request for cash in lieu. Somebody will call you.” That was three days ago. I had to call back again today and that person was much more knowledgeable. She explained that I had to send the invoice to the email address and gave me the information I needed to have in the email.

We bought a new house and there were a couple problems, but the techs that we had to come in were very good. They were nice, professional, on time and got the stuff done. A couple of drains were clogged up after we moved in. We didn't know if it was something more serious, but they came and cleaned those out. There were also some air conditioning problems, one of which they came and fixed. The other one was because they have a safety switch in the system, and so, if the black plate isn't hooked up, it doesn't work. Somebody had taken it down, and the techs were able to show us how to hook it up. Luckily, nothing has been an emergency. It takes a couple days until the process works, which is fine. All in all, I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield's service. As a matter of fact, I've upped the coverage.

We really liked the majority of our claim experiences with American Home Shield. Most people have been very polite, on time, and respond immediately. A plumber come out recently and looked at two faucets. There was leakage underneath the sink. The plumber was incredibly efficient with his time and fixed everything within 45 minutes. The only thing was there was some water in the basement and we couldn’t select it on the home warranty. Helping us discover how to solve things like that a little bit better would be an improvement that I would suggest to American Home Shield.
We had another claim where a guy came out and looked at our water heater. He immediately told us that our water heaters were going to break and were going to shut down because one of them wouldn't ignite. It turned out that there was a bird nest in the vent area. Instead of checking that area, he quoted us six grand to replace both of our water heaters. That was a lot of money. We just ended up removing the bird nest ourselves and the water heater ignited immediately and started working. We let the guy know but we never heard a response back from him or the company.
On the whole, we definitely recommend American Home Shield. Being able to have people come in and address issues that we wouldn't know about has been very productive for us. I love the text reminders and the phone calls. I also love that they are right on the ball. That's a very encouraging feature that the home warranty offers.

The air conditioner was broken so I called Trademasters and they sent a technician on that Friday. He called me and said he wasn't sure what was wrong, but that he had tried to change the thermostat. He did a few different things then he said when he reconnected everything, it was working. My tenants were checking in on Saturday. When they got there on Saturday, they called and told me that it was 80-something degrees in the house. They were closed Saturday and Sunday so I went to Home Depot and bought two portable air conditioning units to the tune of $924.
On Monday, we started the whole process again. A technician went out and nobody ever called me from Trademasters to tell me what was going on. I kept calling American Home Shield and Trademasters, and nobody would tell me anything. Finally, on Wednesday, they said they were waiting on approval from the claims department. In the meantime, it was 90 degrees in the house. On Thursday or Friday, they told me the claim had been denied.
I called Lewis Air, a well-respected company in the area that's been there like 40 years, and they came out. They took pictures of everything. American Home Shield said that Trademasters said that it was not normal wear and tear, that it looked like it had been damaged. When Lewis Air sent me all the pictures, it didn't look like a damaged unit. I asked my uncle about it. He said, "There's no way you can damage a motor. You would have to take apart the entire vein to damage the motor then put it back together." I asked Lewis Air, "What do you think caused this?" They said, "Motors quit every day. They just die and that's what happened. It just died." That cost me $475 for them and now, it's working perfectly.
I own other properties and I've used American Home Shield for about four years and I've never had an issue like that. I wouldn't say that every other situation like it was super fast and super efficient because it normally isn't. But that's kind of the cost of having a home warranty. You know it's not going to be the day of. But American Home Shield could have better communication. There could be a better way to contact them, even if it's by email. The other big issue is, so often, these calls are routed overseas so you have a language barrier. It's really hard to communicate. They are limited as to what they could do to help. Whereas if something was submitted in writing, it could be routed to someone who had the authority to fix the problem.
We do appreciate you sharing your feedback and providing your experience thus far. We do apologize for the delay in the repairs and would be more than happy to assist with a resolution. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

We have two bathrooms upstairs. One has the shower and the second one is a bathtub and a shower. The first leak occurred in the bathtub shower. It dumped water from the ceiling into our living room. We resealed the bathtub but it kept leaking. We stopped using that one until we could find somebody to come out and do it. We used the bathroom that does work then that one sprung a leak too and leaked through the ceiling down in front of our foyer. We gave American Home Shield a call and thank God we have them because we would have been in a horrible place. We would not have been able to afford to do this ourselves.
The plumbing guy, Greyland, was very thorough. He inspected everything upstairs and downstairs. He went through the ceiling to get to the pipe. We did tests on everything. He tested the sink, the commode, the showers and the bathtub itself. He got to the pipe through the ceilings. He tried to make as few holes as possible, but he did have to make four in front of the foyer because of the placement of the pipe. He did his best and did manage to find that there was a little leak. He took pictures of everything and each step. He explained everything to me.
He even checked the plywood for mildew. He checked for any water damage. The sheet rock needed to go and he made sure he put that in the work order. It was water damaged and needs to be replaced. He took that rope off that was around that pipe. He cleaned it off, tested it again and resealed it. He fixed the drain, sealed it, tested it and drained it with a full bathtub. Everything was working. He even fixed the flusher in my toilet and he didn't even have to do that. He was here for almost two hours because he was making sure that he got everything. He even cleaned up his mess afterwards.

I am satisfied with AHS. It has saved me money. However, it can sometimes be difficult to get in touch with a customer service rep and to dig deeper into a claim. You could be on hold waiting to talk to a rep for 20 minutes. But I've used AHS for the repair of a pool pump and multiple times on home air conditioning. One thing that I'm concerned about is that they will keep making repairs even if they know that an air conditioning unit needs to be replaced. They want to make the repair at the most cost possible to them. I understand it's a business decision. But, I have an air conditioning unit that is obsolete, that needs to be replaced. The technician even told me that they would just keep repairing it as long as they could.
But I am generally satisfied with the technicians. They have quality people. Their professionalism and customer service have been excellent. I also used American Home Shield's service when I couldn't get the garbage disposal to work. I pushed the reset button several times before I called them about it as it still didn't work. A guy with Affordable Plumbing came out here, pushed the button, and it was done. That was 100 bucks for me. That was my co-pay. He also found a bunch of plumbing issues that he said we had. We had an issue with our air conditioner. Originally, we called American Home Shield and they gave us a different company. We tried calling them numerous times but they refused to answer calls and never bothered to call us back. This was the first time we ran into problems, and it wasn't necessarily the home warranty company's issue. We ended up having to go back to AHS, and we were given new company, which worked out great.
The company that came out and looked at our air conditioner gave us a couple different options as to whether or not to completely redo the entire air conditioning unit. We weren't aware of the Louisiana law where we would’ve had to have a contractor come in and cut out a portion of the wall for them. Apparently, they have to have ease of access in the state. Because a lot of the air conditioning units here are put into little closets, we would’ve needed to have cut further out.
The repair company could have tried to have us do a full replacement, but they came up with the second option of just replacing the coil system. I appreciate that. They were also very user-friendly. They kept in contact with us, because we needed to take a bit of time to find out the cost of the two options we were given. They were very patient with that. They did a great job, and I would recommend them. Being out in the middle of Central Louisiana, it helps a great deal to have a working air conditioner.

I started out online in filing the claim and it asked for a brief description. I liked the way it was broken down so that I could break it down into categories and then fill in more detail. That was enough to get me to the right plumber. A&S Plumbing was quick to respond and set up the appointment. The young man came within a couple of days and was considerate about wearing a mask and putting booties on. He was able to take care of my faucets and wasn't there very long. I was very happy with it.

American Home Shield needs to get rid of the technician that they recently sent out because he lied to me. When he came and checked my air conditioning, he told me it didn’t need Freon, but he submitted a request with AHS to do a chemical bath. He said that AHS approved it and he was coming back that Friday. I called him that Friday and he said he couldn’t make it and that he was coming that Saturday. I called him that Saturday and he again said that he couldn’t make it. He said he was coming the following week. I called him that week and he said he’d be over at 12 o'clock. But I called him at 12 o'clock and he quit answering his phone. So AHS shouldn't send him back to my house anymore.

When the technician came, he fixed the issue pretty quickly and all was done in an hour. The value of American Home Shield is peace of mind. I don't have any major repair yet but I'm hoping if something happens and it's major, it will go through like the way it went through the previous one.

I go online and submit my claims. I’m busy these days, so I enjoy the online portion. We put a submission, and we find out the next day. And immediately, we put the submission in, and we get a contractor within no less than two days. So, it's a nice, smooth process. The dryer was making noise. It's a relatively newer one. It stopped running, then it started up again. The tech came in and said, "Yup. This is a Samsung. I'll let you know. This is what it probably is," took it apart, and showed me the damage, which I enjoy. I like to see what happened. And he showed me the damaged wheel, and then he replaced it.
I also asked him about another appliance issue and he told me what it was. And he told me if I wanna submit another claim, to go ahead and do so. And he said we can request his company. I didn’t see where we can request any certain company, though. I liked that kid a lot and the way he did it. I would love to have him come back. I said, “Hey, do you do anything on the side?” He said, “Absolutely not.” So, that was cool. He was a very professional young man. I would have no problem having my 20-year-old daughter have this gentleman in the house to fix something. There are certain reasons why I like people. It’s not just because they know what they’re doing. But he was very pleasant to talk to.
I hate warranties. I hate buying a washer and dryer for a couple grand and all of a sudden, what? I just bought the damn thing. Now, you want me to warranty it? But it's a no-brainer to have this security. With the online experience, my wife is comfortable, or the deductibles. There's nothing that is $10 cheaper by not calling them. Everything these days is so expensive to replace, so for me the deductibles are very reasonable. Also, I'm very comfortable knowing that things get repaired quickly. I would not have a home without American Home Shield.

AHS has been fantastic in the past, but I have a huge problem at the moment. We've been without water since Saturday and I'm waiting for a call from a plumber that came out. My husband has a medical condition and I can't make any of his food without having to go to a neighbor's and bring it back, which I can't do because, otherwise, it might get contaminated. So, I'm in a real fix and I'm not happy with American Home Shield right now. I tried to get through them on Saturday night and they didn't put my claim as an emergency. So, somebody didn't come out until yesterday morning.
Then, the plumber was two and a half hours away from us and I don't know why AHS didn’t get somebody local. The problem is when he came out here, he didn't seem like he wanted to do the job even because he just wanted to get home to his family since it was Father's Day yesterday. He could have done the job yesterday but he didn't. And he said he needed approval but I don’t believe that. But even if he did or didn't, if I hadn't have chased it up this morning, it would have just been stopped there. Nobody had been chasing up the plumbing company or American Home Shield. It's just a disaster.
So, I've had to sit on the phone all morning and all night Saturday. Our pipe was leaking last Saturday and we've had to turn off all the water. Then, I was just on the phone with the plumber right now and he's trying to get through to American Home Shield to get approval. But he's on hold and he said it's a three-hour wait. All in all, we have spent hours and hours this weekend waiting for someone to help us out and we still have no water in our kitchen.

The contractor came in. There were two guys and they went straight to the problem. The fans in the bathrooms were not working correctly. But they didn't even check out the fans. They just went to the switch and said, “Yeah, it’s the switch.” So, he replaced the switch and that was it. One fan actually came on just last week, but it went back off. So, I'm waiting on that. If it happens again, I will call him and ask him to come back out and check the fans, instead of assuming it was just the switch.
But as far as American Home Shield's end, they are very prompt and we’re very satisfied with the service. I talked to a polite young lady. A rooster was crowing in the background. But she handled it. It was on this electrician. She said they would contact us. Sure enough, they called the next day. A contractor came out and checked our air conditioner. AHS had a $75 special. We took advantage of that, and that worked out great. Those are the claims that we've had and they have all been great. I'm glad we have the warranty. We'll renew it next year as well.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together.
Have a great day.

Georgia Boy Electric came out and checked my sockets, which shot sparks out of them, out of the den, the dining room and the master bedroom. The sockets turned black. The electrician was professional and did what he was supposed to do but he was standoffish. He didn't talk when I would ask him a question. But he was just direct. When he finished, he gave me the thumbs up to let me know that he was done. I was happy that he came in and fixed it.
I'm trying to get my ceiling fans down. They're very old and wobbly. Some of them don't have heads and the lights don't even work in some of them. I called to ask American Home Shield if they have electricians to put up ceiling fans. They said they don't put it and they don't have anyone to hang them. But if I let American Home Shield buy the ceiling fans, they normally have someone to hang them. They're gonna send Georgia Boy back. He's gonna check them and see what's going on with them. If AHS can replace the ceiling fans, that'll be a big help to me.

The technician originally came out to do a seasonal checkup just to make sure everything was working properly. Then he noticed that we were low on Freon. He had to come back out and inject some Freon. We also told him that we had the air conditioner work a year ago and the maintenance person put in Freon as well. He said we might have a Freon leak and suggested to wait about 30 days then contact American Home Shield and have him come back out.
When he came back, the temperatures in St. Louis were in the 50s and 60s, so we didn't really have our air conditioning on every day. He suggested to wait another 30 days until it's above 70, 80, so it would be running all day long. Within the next 30 days, it got in the 70s, 80s, and it was running the whole time. He came back out a couple of weeks ago and checked our system and everything was running fine. We did not have any leaks. He said it could have been just the nozzle, when having a hose, air comes out, and Freon evaporates.
If something were to break, we have a company that can help us out. It might take a day or two for the technicians to come out, but just knowing that they can come out, instead of us shelling out money and trying to find somebody at the last minute. They find the person for us and then they get it fixed for us. We had an issue last year where we were on hold for a long time, but that has been rectified, and supervisors got involved.
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

I had an issue where I called and I wanted to use the coupon on my file. There was a $75 fee for any repair and the rest would be under warranty. Customer service looked it up. I didn’t pay anything. But a week later, I got an email from American Home Shield telling me that my account was past due. I owe them $75 for the service fee and for me to please pay. After having more difficulty reaching someone on the automated stuff on the phone, I finally got to someone that was in the right department after three tries.
The young lady I talked to had a very heavy accent and I couldn't understand her. It was very difficult to have her repeat some things. I explained the situation and she said she would put in a request and issue credit. They never charged me so there wasn't any credit issue, but they needed to take it off my bill. The young lady said I would get an email confirming that they used that credit and took it off of my account. But I couldn't get her to send me an email regarding that conversation or request to have that used so it was just very annoying and very confusing. I spent about half an hour on the phone trying to clear it up. At this point, I still don’t know if my account has been credited back.
The issue with the coupon aside, I had another claim where I had an appliance fixed. That was done in a very timely manner and it was really very easy. The technicians did a good job. I have two properties, one in Minnesota and one in Arizona, and I have coverage in both. The services that American Home Shield offers are good but it was the customer service piece was disappointing.

The AC wasn't turning on and the gentleman that came from Crispy Air & Heating went up on my roof. He came down in less than 10 minutes and said that the cover of the air conditioner was off and that's why it wasn't working. He put the cover back on in that 10 minutes and I turned my air conditioner back on. He was very nice to me. He told me to call them if anything else happens within the next 30 days and they'd be happy to come out and fix it for free.
I'm in a claim process right now. My refrigerator is broken and the contractor told me it was my fan and they ordered the part through American Home Shield. They said they would order it and it would probably take a week, which meant this past Monday. On Wednesday, I called AHS and told them I have company coming on Tuesday and my refrigerator has to be fixed. They tried to expedite the part, but it didn't work. On Monday of this week, I called the company that's doing the repair work and they told me that they got an answer from AHS that it would take eight to nine days. And that's business days so, my refrigerator probably will not get fixed until Friday. It's crazy.
I'm a little perturbed because I don't understand the operation of AHS having to get a part for a refrigerator. The company that's doing the actual repair work could go to wherever they get their parts from, get the part and put it in, and charge AHS. I understand it's probably a financial determination that they want to get the cheapest price for the part but look at the inconveniences it’s caused me. And I pay a lot of money for the insurance every year. I was very happy until I found out about how they operate with getting the part.

I've been really pleased with American Home Shield. We've used them twice within the past several months. It's been quick, fast, and efficient. The people that have been sent to our home to look into what needed to be repaired have been professional, respectful, easygoing, and prompt. American Home Shield gives me peace of mind, especially in an older home. Also, knowing that American Home Shield so far sent out people that are reliable, it's definitely been a benefit.
