American Home Shield's claims submission process has always been great. I've had the company since I’ve owned the house, and they've always been honest and fair with me. I did a claim when my air conditioner went out. It was not blowing out cold air. The technician was great. He was nice, polite and he had a mask on. He diagnosed the problem, he fixed the problem, told me what the problem was, and then he left. Also, I'm just fresh out of the hospital, and he was so understanding. I couldn't ask for any better and I wouldn’t ask for any better. Somehow, a wire got shorted on the AC. He replaced the wire and fixed whatever was that would make it short, and it's been working right ever since. I use it every night.
I moved to this house around '96. I've had AHS ever since. l pay them monthly direct out of my bank account. I could not imagine owning a home without American Home Shield. My experience has been wonderful. I've always called them, and they do what they can do. I'm trying to get my sister-in-law right now to get with them.
Good afternoon Rickey,
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with AHS. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Enjoy your day.

When I found the leak it was in the middle of night, so I just called the 800 number and it said to press a number. And then, it processed it and I got a confirmation. I got an email, and from there it was assigned. Because they said, “What's your problem?” And you say, “It’s a leak,” it picks up on your voice and it knows what it says. And then it gets assigned to a contractor, then a contractor will give you a call. That's where the issue comes in because they technically have 24 business hours to get back to you.
I got contacted by the first vendor with an adequate time. The vendor that came out was extremely nice and the tech was very professional, he knew what he was talking about. I was sad because it's my home insurance. I had the leak, they went and they checked it out and they told me, “Oh, it's not. I'm sorry, but it's not plumbing. It's actually the HVAC.” The guy was from USA Plumbing, and he was super nice, and he just told me everything, but then it got reassigned.
When your case is reassigned, that's the part that really extremely sucks because you would be put in the queue again, and it's another 24 business hours for them to call you, and it isn't even to make an appointment, to call you. The first time, USA Plumbing called me right away and made an appointment. And then within that appointment, because I called on a Tuesday night, they called me the next morning. So if you get a good vendor, that's awesome, because then you can schedule an appointment. And the next available appointment would be, from that Tuesday, it was a Friday morning. That was great. But then when we found out what the real problem was, you had to get the correct vendor out.
And then when they assigned me the second vendor, they didn't even call me. You have a choice that you can try and call them. I called that vendor, there was no answer. And because it has already been happening since Tuesday, then I call them on a Monday to try and follow up, and they said, “I'm sorry, but we really can't do anything because it's 24 business hours, and we gotta give them a chance.” There was no way to escalate it.
After I found out it was the HVAC, and the guy told me what it was , I said, “How do I stop it?” And they said, “Okay. Well, you can just shut your AC off.” But it was really hot. I'm okay with it and my kids were okay with it, but because I have my parents, who live with me, but when I called them, I said, ”Hey, you need to get somebody out here,” and they said, “Well, if it’s not 105 or you have a medical condition, we really can't do anything about it. You're gonna have to wait.” They said all I can do is call, but nobody answered it. They thought maybe because it was after hours.
And the other thing was that they went and they said, “Okay, we'll email them. Give them until like Tuesday to contact you.” They never called back. I waited until Tuesday. I called Wednesday again. “Look,” I said, “I called this and it's been since last week. Nobody came out. They didn't even pick up my call. I understand you’re insurance and you have all these contractors or vendors that work for you. But can you at least monitor your vendor list to make sure your vendors are good, and that they'll call you back or pick up your call.” I was furious. And when they said, “You know what's happening now.” I said I need to be reassigned to get somebody out here. Finally, they talked to the supervisor.
I understand. Some of the policy that they got to get fixed, which is if you called in, and I'm getting reassigned, there has to be a shorter time period. Because by the time they said, “Oh, we found a vendor and this vendor says that they're guarantee that they're gonna come out, because they actually received somebody,” they couldn't come out until, just recently, the Monday.
They came on Monday and they just fixed it. The vendor was okay. He wasn't as nice as the first vendor. Sometimes it's a hit and miss. He was really busy. The first person that came assessed the situation and was really nice. There was a younger team that came on helped him. The second one that came in was a bit more firm. He was great, because they were in and out really quick. He was more of a cut and dry kind of person, but that's fine. He was the one who knew exactly what was happening. It seemed like he was having a bad day. But I thought it was fine. I've been monitoring to see if there's a leak coming out. But it looks like it's fixed fine. So, I'm quite satisfied, when they finally got the vendor.
There were two other times that I've had to use them. The other time was something happened to the washer, and it just didn't work. That process was the same thing. It's a 24 business hours. The first time it happened, they came out and they fixed it. The second time, which was a few couple of years afterwards, I had almost the same issue where they couldn't find somebody to come out because it was a particular brand. It was a Samsung and nobody really works on a Samsung. The waiting period just took a long time. I had to tell them, “Can you just reassign it to the first person that came out and fixed the washing machine?” And when it finally got reassigned, Sears called me and made an appointment, and it was great.
My complaint is always the waiting period. And for the vendor to call you, because you can only talk to the vendor. But if the vendor doesn't call you, you're stuck in that 24 business hours, and it's three days. And then the unfortunate part was they didn't have the part. They had to order it and then come back and fix it for you. I was doing laundry at a laundromat for two weeks. A month later, I called in, my dryer had broken down. But the worst experience of all that I've had was with my water heater. Something was leaking and I saw it coming into the house. But the person that they sent out was probably the worst because when they came out, they fixed it, they said, “I think it's a nipple to this blah blah blah.”I said, “But it's still leaking water”. And then they told me, “Well, it just takes about a week.”
A week had gone by and it was still leaking. My floors and my kitchen were ruined. I got so angry with the vendor. I said, “Look, are you going to replace my floors in the kitchen? Because it's ruining all this stuff.” Because the kitchen and the water heater were connected. And to listen to that guy and the guy finally came out, and then they just, “Okay, you got approved for a water heater.”
That time made me angry because at that point, it was like, “Okay, we were not going to do anything with the walls.” The walls are now ruined. So, that's on me. But it was the guy who said wait for a week. But what would you do? I still haven't fix it. The water damage is there. There is really no other insurance out there that is better, but it's either a hit or miss. You can't live without it because when it comes to repairs it's really expensive. I pay $600 a year for it. And when it comes to certain appliances, like the washer that they replaced, and they gave me money and I had to go out and get a new one, or the water heater, those are really expensive items. That's why having insurance is really important. But they control you and you can't do anything like this whole HVAC thing. And the biggest part is the vendors that they use to go and send the contractors out for us consumers, to use.

The rep was very helpful and the contractor was very nice and very professional. I thought that we had a leak because of the air conditioner. The guy came and found out that the leak was not really the air conditioner. It was the insulation of the air conditioner. He found some tubing was disconnected. He fixed it and checked out everything in the air conditioner. He also left a very helpful and very well-informed report. The contractors are fantastic people. They’ve come right away. One of the people is sitting here right now doing some stuff. It's been a very professional and very nice experience with American Home Shield.

The vacuum had lost suction and I had changed bags and changed filters, and I still couldn't get any suction back. I did the claim online with American Home Shield and it took four days tops before someone came out. The technicians from King Vacuum told me the unit was old and everything was worn out, so they needed to replace it. They were very knowledgeable. They took care of everything and it worked out well.

It's pretty easy getting a service call set up. My most recent claim was for the toilet. One of the two bolts that hold the toilet down to the floor disintegrated. So the toilet was wobbly. The tech that came out was a nice young man. He was very professional and he cleaned up after himself really good. It was nice. Everything's working good. Home Shield has done good by me so far and I've upgraded on a couple of things because I wanted a little bit more.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

I was with somebody else but I switched over to Home Shield. The response has been pretty good. I had a recent claim for the air conditioner and the process was quick. The contractor came in and checked out what the problem was. After that, he went ahead and took care of the issue. He was finished within about half an hour. The experience, so far, has been good. The policy is getting a little expensive though. I might have to switch up. When I started, it was only $50. It shot up about $25 over the past 15 years.

My central air conditioning unit wasn't cooling. I submitted a claim with AHS then, the techs came out and took care of it. I wish they could've gotten here sooner, but other than that, there wasn't any problem at all. The AC working right now though I don't think this thing has long to live because the compressor sounds really ragged. That was what the guy told me but he said he couldn't condemn it. He said American Home Shield wouldn't let him condemn it until it was totally out. So he got the leak stopped and filled it with Freon and it's cooling fine right now.

I had no hot water. Derheimer came out, cleaned something and scraped some stuff off. However, you just never know who Home Shield will send out as far as your local service people. It would be great to see an option for choosing your own vendor.

The tech resolved the matter with the AC quickly and efficiently. When he was here, he stayed away and wore a mask. Home Shield has been fairly useful but it's a bit costly. The annual cost is fairly high. We almost didn't renew due to the cost. But it's understandable, given what it is. The claims process is fine as long as it's done on desktop PC. The mobile is a little less than stellar as far as the user interface. They should focus more on a mobile interface type of application. It's kind of made for desktop and then it works on mobile.

We had some plumbing issues and Ace Plumbing was given as our contractor. The online claim submission process was very easy. But when I needed to contact somebody directly to add something or to change my claim a little bit, I was on hold for a considerable amount of time. That was kind of annoying. But customer service was friendly enough. And the tech from Ace was awesome. Everything's been good since the repair. I personally had an okay experience but being in real estate and knowing my clients, I have not been as satisfied with American Home Shield as I was in years past. There has been inconsistent customer service.

My stove was very hard to start or you would have to light it. A guy evaluated everything and there were two parts that had to be ordered. One did not work at all and then one was slow in responding. So he ordered a part, came back in a week, and replaced it. He explained everything, told us what was going on, and if we had any questions or problems, to call him. Everything was well. AHS has been a nice program.

I just moved in and the front door, back door, and garage door all had different locks with different keys. I wanted them all keyed the same. I called American Home Shield and they scheduled the service. The rep, as well as the contractor that came out, was good. The contractor was very professional. I originally called them out there because I have locks inside the house in some bedroom doors. But I didn't have the keys so I figured I might as well get them all rekeyed. The guy said he couldn't change them without the key. That didn't make sense because that was the reason why I needed them. We ended up doing just the outside locks and I just replaced the handles inside. I was gonna pay part separately to do the extra locks because it's an extra cost for other locks. Everything's fine. American Home Shield is definitely worth it. The guy had an $85 service call and it was $20 a lock. It would have been $250.

I had a garage door opener failure. Also, I had eight smoke detectors that had the function to monitor the carbon monoxide levels and they were all malfunctioning. The fire department arrived and told me I was having that issue. I called American Home Shield and told them that. They said that they would assign the job to an appropriate company so that that situation could be remedied, which they did. Wire Nutz Electric came out and they were really good. My smoke detectors were making all kinds of strange noises before and telling me that it was an emergency and that there was carbon monoxide. They were all replaced and I now have peace in the home. I'm assuming everything is fine. I had a positive and gratifying experience.

Authorized Electric came out and the technician got the repair done in 10 minutes. He was in and out. There was a GFI piece that was broken in one of my electrical sockets that ran all of the sockets in my bathroom. So, once he repaired that, all of the other sockets started working fine. I had a claim for my AC before that and my only gripe with American Home Shield is that they don't cover the Freon or the coolant or antifreeze. That has to go into the AC unit so it's quite expensive. If that's what you need, they only cover $10 per pound. Some companies require you to pay the full cost of having the warranty upfront and I like that AHS allows you to do the billing monthly. That is helpful as well as the quick turnaround and the ease of making the service request online. I normally do mine online and it takes less than five minutes.

I would never go with anybody for American Home Shield. I had an appliance claim where they sent Sears out. Two days after we closed our house, the air conditioner broke. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. We were early in the move so we didn't have computer access. It was very cumbersome. But when we called American Home Shield, they had a person take care of it for us. They did a good job. They fixed the air conditioner within a couple of days. It took a while to find someone because we moved to Arizona. It was 115 that day. But they got it fixed.
The contractor was very prompt, very professional and he fixed the issue very quickly. Then, my wife thought it should be cooler. So, she asked for a second opinion. They sent another company in to look at it, and they explained to her how air conditioners work. If it's 115, you can expect your house to be 68 degrees inside. My wife moved from New York. Once she figured all that out and understood these guys were telling the truth, she became very comfortable with their repairs.
Our AC has been fine since they fixed it. The company didn't give us a hard time. They facilitated the process and got it taken care of. If somebody asked me, I'd recommend American Home Shield for sure. I’d tell them that they took care of me when I needed them. The premium wasn't overly expensive, too. That, to me, is a good value.
Hi Gary,

He informed us of what he was doing and why he had to do it. But it was three weeks from the time we first called American Home Shield till the time we got the water heater installed. My HVAC Air Handler was diagnosed by their contractor as needing replaced. American Home Shield covered the repair and ordered part through their vendor. In the meantime, the blower motor control unit is bypassed so my home may still have AC. The part arrived at the contractor September 9, 2020, damaged and was denied due to the extensive damage. The contractor contacted American Home Shield to report the damaged unit was returned and requested another unit to be delivered. The contractor has never been provided with tracking info on the reshipment. Both myself and the contractor were informed the unit was ordered and had an estimated delivery of 9/29/20.
I've contacted the company 4 times requesting tracking information in which the customer support team can't provide and places me on hold to contact the contractor to obtain the same information I tell them. It is now October 6, 2020, and the unit has yet to be delivered. My electric bill has increased 25% due to the blower motor is constantly on. I'm yet to get any resolution as to when the part will be delivered to the contractor so the repair can get completed. The customer service agents are obviously third party, hired by AHS, reading a script and have nothing but notes to go off of for information. I will not be renewing my contract with this company and wouldn't recommend.

Seriously reconsider using this company. Previously I have used the service and have had great experience but not this time! Back in August I report an issue with the microwave and to date it has not been fixed. After 4 tech visits to the house and numerous conversations with their customer service department they have not resolved the problem and both techs stated that the unit cannot be repaired and needs to be replaced. On Friday 10/3/2020, with customer service rep Robert told me that the unit will be replaced and I should hear from their replacement department shortly. He added that I could hear from them even on Saturday! Guess what, I have heard nothing.
Today 10/6/2020 after 40+ minutes on hold I was told that they are waiting for the tech to confirm that the unit needs to be replaced. I asked for a supervisor and was told there was not one available. I said look in the record and I repeated what I was told by Adam on Friday. She said, "Who is Adam?" One would think that it would be memorialized in the record, but she could not find it until I pushed. She did see Adam's notes finally and said they were waiting for the tech recommendation. Not What Adam stated. The call ended by her rambling off that I would hear from someone soon! Really!

My husband called them and scheduled an appointment. Family Heating and Cooling was expected out between 2:00 and 6:00, and they came at 5:00. They did a tune-up and the service was good. Everything has been great since then.

After I submitted the claim, the contractor came out three days later. They had to repair my refrigerator and my water tank. They have to come back to fix the water tank. I forgot to tell them about the bottom. I have a piece in the bathtub and in the sink. The tech was very busy in the water tank. He was good. Then we are waiting for the part for the fridge. But overall, my experience with AHS was excellent.

The guy came and he was great. He was wonderful but it took me so long to try and place the order because of all the machinations. It was difficult to place an order and that shouldn't have been. Whenever I put my password in, it seems to forget it and then, I have to do a new one. All the hoops I had to go through were very disconcerting. Their whole system is totally changed in the past few years than how it used to be and it's very uneven as far as quality. I used to be a real estate agent, very active, and I always had very positive experiences with American Home Shield. It was all done in the US but to have it offshore and be calling somebody in the Philippines to have to place an order is deplorable.
Hi Sally,

The claim submission has been pretty easy to use. Myers Comfort came out and they were very good. The only thing that I've ever had an issue with was just waiting on the telephone line sometimes when they might get fairly busy during the air conditioning season, for example. I have not used the online service for requests. I probably should do that. I have gone on it, but I usually just pick up the phone and do it. Other than that, Home Shield is an excellent service. It has helped us a lot. It's worthwhile to have that available because sometimes you get some good size expenses, especially air conditioning and heating.

The contractor did a wonderful job. They were very polite and efficient. We did have a callback because he did fix a problem but there was an additional little problem to that. He came back on the callback, fixed it and everything's fine. This was the only time I had ever called American Home Shield out and it was fine. The only misunderstanding was whoever answered the phone when I called in she could not understand what I was saying. I had to tell her three times we didn't have a Whirlpool tub. She still put in there and they told me they didn't fix Whirlpool tubs.

AC Rescue came out for the AC and as of today, it's been working good. The issue had been going on for about two months. It wouldn't cool. It would just either blow hot air or it wouldn't blow at all. It was just constantly reoccurring. This time, the tech just added Freon. Last time, he repaired a fuse that blew randomly. The time before that was a capacitor. It’s different every single time. It's been interesting. I like AC Rescue. They show up, and they usually know exactly what the issue is from the moment they show up. They have an idea, and most of the time, it’s been right. So far, I'm okay with Home Shield. When I bought the house, the previous homeowners got to set up, which I'm really happy about since the AC has been causing me issues.

The whole time since I first started calling AHS for our plumbing issue, I've had at least two contractors come out. One, he knew what he was doing. Then one said they don't work on it that particular brand. That we got to call back, about the third time. It took close to a month before somebody did what they're supposed to have been doing. But when he got here, he did a great job. He knew what the problem was and he fixed it right up. It took no time. One company was talking about removing the water heater. But this last one was perfect.
American Home Shield should pick the companies that go and do their work, instead of making it bad for them. 'Cause I was almost a month without hot water and I got seven people living in the house with babies. So that's what upset me. It really helps with making sure that they get in touch with the right people instead of just getting anybody. But I would recommend American Home Shield highly. That was just one mishap out of many. They've been right on their job, doing what they're supposed to have been doing. I'm just thinking that's just a bad choice or it's 'cause of what's going on in the world, they just call anybody. But they've been good so far for me.

Then it's COVID, so it took a while. It took a month and a half.
When he came back, he put the parts in. When he put the parts in, he said that the bottom of the dishwasher, it’s fiberglass and it's warped. So when he put the new piece in there, it wasn't getting a proper seal. That can’t be fixed and it needed to be replaced. However, the dishwashers are all on back-order. American Home Shield has always done well. The only time I ever had a problem was with a stove. My electric stove went out and it seemed like it took a long time to get it installed. It was a couple of weeks. First, it was, "We'll send you one," then, "We'll give you the cash." I said, "I'll take whatever the buyout is and I'll go look for one here so I can look at what I wanna get," rather than just having them send me something. Outside of that, I've had really good luck with American Home Shield.
I had a water heater go bad. I did the claim online and within one day, I got an answer back saying that American Home Shield had assigned somebody. The people called me the next day and sent a representative by to look at it. The junk was rusted out and it would need to be replaced. The guy said, "I'll go back and submit the claim." A week went by and they called and said, "We got your got your water heater," and he was gonna be there the next day. He came and installed it. I was worried about it and I wasn't sure if it was the motherboard system or if it was a salt cell for my pool. A guy came out and he made sure that the motherboard was good, and it was. He then determined the issue was the salt water cell. I had gotten it tested about two times from two different places and they both said it was good. He said that sometimes it tests good even though it might be bad. So he just replaced the cell, and everything works now.

I’m a real estate broker and I recommend American Home Shield to a lot of my clients. We purchased our house that was built in 1909 three years ago. It was totally renovated but things happen. I wanted to get some kind of coverage in case something major went out, so then we wouldn't have to kick out major dollars for it. When I called American Home Shield and requested service, someone with Universal Plumbing Company came out and replaced a faucet that I had already purchased the year before. He hooked it up to two dishwashers. He was fine, quick, and professional. He was in and out in like 45 minutes. I haven't completed the claim yet because I need to get the receipt from Costco for the faucet. But the faucets are great.
We also had other claims like when we had to replace a part on our heat pump. We were satisfied with the contractor. I also put in a claim to have an electrician come out and it's been a week. American Home Shield has not located an electrician to do the job. I'm hoping they will contact somebody so we can get that taken care of. But it's a little bit like dialing for dollars when you try to contact them. Otherwise, we're satisfied having the contract with American Home Shield.

Overall, I’m satisfied. I haven’t had an issue with the people American Home Shield has sent out. Everything was fine with the claim for my stove and oven. The guy was great. Last year, I had called about an item and to have it fixed. I wasn't too happy about the way things happened. They said they were gonna look into whether or not they would refund my fee since it wasn't covered but I never heard anything back from them. I just paid it and kept going. I wasn’t thrilled about it. But only thing I could do was just give up American Home Shield and move forward. I decided that I'd chalk it up as experience and let it go that time. If it happens again, then I will go to another company.
I read the contract but what I was looking at that needed to have done was kinda vague. They weren’t too sure on their end and what I've learned since then is to keep pressing if I'm not 100% sure. I have recommended it to a couple friends with that caveat, to make sure that you have to be careful and sure of what you're reading versus what you wanna have done.

When I first initiated American Home Shield's service for a dryer and a stove that I was having a problem with, a lady rep asked me what was wrong. So, I put the phone to the dryer for her to listen to it. She said "Oh my God!" as it sounded like something was something was stuck in it. I told her that wasn't the way the dryer was supposed to run. She said that she was gonna set up the appointment for my stove and my dryer at the same time. But then, when their tech came for the stove, he had to order some parts and when I asked him about my dryer, he said he didn't know anything about it.
I called American Home Shield back and I asked what had happened. I told them that I was supposed to have somebody look at my dryer also. The woman I spoke to the second time around told me that the first lady who helped me forgot to put my claim for my dryer in. I told her have an email that says my claim was for an "oven/dryer". The responded saying she couldn't do anything and that we had to wait until Monday. AHS couldn't get an appointment with Sears for my dryer so instead, they called a different company called Hi-Tec. When the tech came, he heard the sound and he took my dryer apart. He took it apart trying to find out where the sound was coming from. He told me that no fuse was blown because it didn't show an error code at all. There was something down in the dryer that was making the noise.
After he took it apart, he found what was going on. Near the motor is a metal cover and it was rubbing against plastic. There was a thick piece of cotton that was supposed to be in there. He cleaned that out and checked the wheels. He said my dryer had four wheels - two on the door and two at the back of the dryer. He said that sometimes, those wheels could get slashed and they would cause the noise that I was hearing. When he checked, my wheels didn't have any slices so he said he would grease them. He also checked on the transformer to see if anything was wrong with that.
When he put my dryer back together, it sounded like it was supposed to sound. He didn't have to replace anything 'cause everything was working fine up top. The contractor from Hi-Tec was very informed about the dryer. I've been dealing with Sears for years and I've never seen them take a dryer apart like that. He took out every piece just to get to where the sound was coming from. If I should have any problem with any appliance, I'd prefer to use Hi-Tec as my contractor. The tech was thorough and had everything that he needed. He explained to me what he was doing and what part I was looking at. I've dealt with a lot of service people in my lifetime and he was very good. He was on time and I liked how he presented himself.

He did a better job than the person before. He was very honest. That pan needed to be changed out and I asked if it would be covered. He said that was a question for American Home Shield. He was playing it safe and not giving any information which is probably in the best interest of everybody in case it came back and bit him. He was very professional.
He followed up a week later and asked if I had heard from American Home Shield. He had put in the information to American Home Shield but American Home Shield never contacted me. He said, "Let me follow up with them and make sure so we can get the ball rolling and see what we need to do.” As soon as he did that, within 30 minutes, he called me back and said, "I'll be out tomorrow. The refrigerator was not cooling. The oil is leaking underneath it. I opened up a claim and a company came in but they sucked. They said that they couldn't work on it. It was a waste of time. It was very inconvenient. Then American Home Shield referred to Sonic and it took another five days for Sonic to get out here. They came and said that they saw the issue but they were not gonna work on it. They told me I needed to contact this other company instead. I contacted that company and they're gonna come work on it in October. So the issue is still not resolved. The refrigerator hasn't been working for a month. I paid the 75 bucks for it and some other company outside of American Home Shield is gonna fix it. I want to get a reimbursement of $75 insurance claim that I put in there.
The guy from Sonic was really good. But American Home Shield wasn't able to properly send the right people, given that they had all the details. When the first guy came out, he said they don't work on a Sub-Zero fridge. But American Home Shield knew that it was a Sub-Zero fridge because I'm required to fill that out when I make the claim.
I had a pool claim and it is still unresolved too. They said that the warranty covers an electrical issue, and then they sent out the vendor, and the vendor came out here saying they don't cover electrical. That's another 75 bucks I need to get back because they never fixed the issue. Every time I call American Home Shield, I have to spend an hour on hold because they're not staffed. So nobody's got time for any of this stuff.

Fidelity Appliances Service Team serviced two calls. The half side of a Sub-Zero dual, the two fridges that rest together, stopped cooling. They wanted to put a whole new cooling unit in it. When it came, it was in a great big box. The refrigerator works lovely now, so they must've figured out what it was. The other was an ice maker, and this one's got a story that goes way back.
We had a different brand name originally and Home Shield had to work on it. They couldn't fix it and they wound up replacing it. We had a callback on this just a couple of years. We had pushed a button wrong. The guy who came out bent down and started looking at it. It turned out that one of the buttons on the front had been pushed and activated and it shut the system down on that side. He explained to me all it was and what we needed to do so that it wouldn't happen again. All he did was he just touched the button and away it went, so it was a quick 100 bucks for me. We've had good luck with Fidelity. They've been to the house several times for different things and it always turned out good.
However, we were not happy with the washing machine claim. That one had some issues that started to drive us crazy. We filed the first claim on it on June 27th and we didn't get any satisfaction with it until a week ago. The first company that came out asked how old the washing machine was and I said it might be about four or five years. The guy told me what was wrong with it, this sort of major part was going out of it, and it was not an uncommon situation. When he went back, the report that he filed said we had abused it and overloaded it and we had caused a problem. I took issue with that. Number one, I called the people that we got the washing machine from, which was RC Willey, and I asked them when I purchased it. It turned out that it was 10 years old and the guy told me that it would normally start having trouble at about year eight. We're just a family of one and I'm handicapped, so I don't wear a lot of clothes and stuff that have to be washed over and over again. There are no kids. It made it 10 years and the thing is immaculate to look at. Not a scratch on it.
I told one of the AHS people back there that when the company turned it down, they weren't gonna do anything with it and that would not be fair. I asked what they could do about that. They said that I could have another company come out and if they wanna do the same thing, I'd have to support the cost to that if it doesn't work.
The second company came out and the guy looked at it and said that there was nothing abused about the thing. They would recommend that it needed to be fixed. It's a legitimate claim and something that needs to be done. It's a crossover whether they fix it or replace it. The guy said that it would be costly to fix it. But then nothing happened and we couldn't get ahold of that company. We'd call and their phone would just ring and it would never get answered. We went along like that for a while and I finally got tired of it. I called AHS and told them about it. They said they would call the company and leave a message. They did that and got no response.
One night, when we were talking to AHS, my wife had her iPad and she pulled the company's website up really quickly. It said on the website right in big red letters that the company had gone permanently out of business and AHS didn't know that. And so, we had no contractor here to even do anything with our washing machine. I started calling in and talk to a person in the AHS call center and he said that this needed to get taken care of. He would call such and such and do this and that. Then he would call me the next day and tell me what the status or when somebody would be. The next day came and there was no call, and that happened about three or four times.
I started deciding I was gonna do a small claims lawsuit and just replace the unit and buy a new one. My wife had gone over to wash some clothes and she talked to our neighbor who is a real estate broker. He said that he has a sales rep that he deals with American Home Shield. He gave her the name and phone number and said to call the lady. She'd get something going on it. So we did, and although she was busy in meetings and stuff, she finally said that she would call her contact down in Arizona and they'd get in touch with us.
Within a couple of hours, this lady called me from down there and said that she'd have this resolved by the next day, and she did. She said that they decided to replace the washing machine. We could either have the money or they would buy us a new one. She warned us that if we decide to have them do it, it could take two or three weeks before they get something to us. And so, we decided to take the money and buy one locally. They gave us $866 or something to replace a washing machine. The one my wife bought was a good one which was $1,400. The only negative thing that came out of that other than the delay of time was what units we had were red and we couldn't get that anymore. We had to take one of those kinda sleigh-colored units, so it's two different colors in there but that's not the end of the world.
The lady did a wonderful job. She told me what her boss's name or email address was, and she said she'd be leaving for long. I told her that if she wanna do that, she should try to do it right away so she gets it and gets it in the system. And so, I sent her a really glowing letter that said they had a great employee there and they should know when they've got a good one, and we were very pleased with this lady.
AHS is trying to pick the pieces up and we have more than gotten our money out of them. I kinda got irritated with them a while back and I decided to get rid of them. I was gonna replace it with another program. I gave them up and they were even nice about that. I started looking for something like that but then I came to the conclusion that I couldn't replace it. There wasn't one out there that was as good as what the American Home Shield's program was. I went back and signed up with it.

The technicians were great once they were there. American Home Shield was great, super responsive right away and I was pleased with that.

I had an AC claim with American Home Shield and so far, so good. The installation was great. The troubleshooting and diagnostic to come to a conclusion to get a new unit was fair and understandable. Greenway Home Services was professional throughout the whole process. They had masks on. They had boots covering their shoes for the carpet, and they questioned me if I felt unsafe at any particular time. Also, they not only told me the biggest issue was inside with my HVAC which is up in the attic, they actually took pictures of it so that I didn't have to climb up there to see it. I did confirm it was my unit. So, they showed me in very detail. That's what made me made the decision to replace the unit.
I'm fine with American Home Shield. I've had them for about 13 years now. They're good. My biggest thing would be the timeliness from a work order to get someone to respond to whatever the deficiency is in the home. I like the consistent coverage that they do for the home. I always do the claims submission online. I've never really had to talk to anybody. So that's why I say it works pretty good. I don't get a chance to select who they send out. I have had different repairman over this years. But they never sent me anybody that I had to question or that I had bad results with.

However, he said he couldn't fix it ‘cause it was electrical and we'd have to call an electrician. So, American Home Shield arranged that quickly. We were very impressed. The electrician then came out, and it was a switch that he fixed, and then our heat went back on. We were happy and we appreciate the promptness, especially when it's a furnace, and it might get cold.

The AC was vibrating really loudly then it would turn itself off. The contractor arrived within 24 hours and he was pretty early. He came in here, introduced himself then went upstairs. I showed him what was going on. He went up into the attic and looked at what was going on. He pulled the broken piece of the AC unit then showed me what was wrong with it. He said that he'd get in touch with me either later on that day or he'd be back the next day in order to replace it. He had to locate the part. He wasn’t able to locate it that day but he did the the next day. He came in, reinstalled it, and it's been working great.
It's a hit-or-miss with American Home Shield. Sometimes the experience is really good and sometimes it isn't. They could have a quicker turnaround. If they couldn't get in touch with one of their vendors, they could get the homeowner in touch with somebody else or replace the product. Right now, I have a refrigerator that I had told them about since Jul. It's still sitting in my living room not working because they can't get in touch with the company that they called out. It is now October and I'm still waiting for it to be fixed or something to be done. The last time I talked to the repair company, they said that they were working on the part. One person had said that they do a thing where she has to send it up to her supervisor in order for that to be reimbursed in order to purchase a new refrigerator. But I haven't heard anything else about that either. When I called American Home Shield back, they said they were gonna try and get in contact with the repair company again and that was almost two weeks ago.

We had American Home Shield at our own house and when we bought the house we have now, the policy came along with the purchase. When that ran out, I just continued it. They did what they advertised and they got my claim taken care of in a timely manner. I called them when I noticed that when the air conditioning unit was running, the fan that cools the unit was not running. Their reps did a great service.
A-US Air Conditioning of Texas said their guy would be out the next day and he was, first thing in the morning. The tech said it was a good thing I called him out because the condenser and whatever equipment would’ve burnt out sooner or later. He did a great job. He was here for about 20 minutes and off he went. Since then, the air conditioning unit has been excellent.

The AC had turned off. I thought the thermostat might have gone bad. I went and bought a new one, and it was not. Then I realized the pan was filled up with water and triggered the float switch. Family Heating and Air came and got the lines cleaned out. The technician got his work done and was professional. I left him alone and I didn't waste his time. We haven't had any problems since then.
I've been with American Home Shield for 15 years now and I like not having to deal with finding a repair person. I also feel like I'm paying for my repairs monthly with my monthly fee instead of having to do it all at one time. It's nice to know that if I have something big, we're only looking at $75. However, the thing that I'm not crazy about is the time to get a technician out is typically lengthy. When it's AC, it's a week before they need to get out there, and they got to order a part, and then I'd be about 50 pounds lighter by the time they got back.
Another thing is the turn time because American Home Shield doesn't have enough contractors. For the AC, there are two. Family Heating and Air was great. They got me in as quickly as they could. But they're out of Pensacola Florida which is at least 45 minutes away. Then there's Myers Heating & Air which is actually out of Montgomery Alabama that’s two and a half hours from here. I'm sure they have some local people, however they're not a local company. But it is what it is, and it still saved me a lot of money, so I'm gonna go with it. I got an AC system that's 22 years old. When I know I've had it this long, I'm gonna let them buy me a new one.

My air conditioner, which was about a 20-year old unit, went out and it was when we were going through 110-degree days here. The technician came out on the 7th of September, and they troubleshot it and said it needed a new compressor. I would commend them because they were out the same day I called them. They ordered a compressor and I didn't hear anything from anybody for 16 days. I talked to about three different agents, and they were no help at all. One agent said they’d call me back and they never called back. All I wanted to do was find out if the thing was ordered and if it was available because I believed that they no longer made parts for the unit. I wanted to get a due date and then I could start making some plans, but nobody knew anything about it. This was on a Thursday, and we were getting ready for some more hot days. I called the contractor and they said that they didn't order it and that AHS ordered it.
So, I contacted the company and said that I needed an air conditioning unit. We initiated a buyout and the unit was $3,900. Almost two weeks later, AHS sent me a check for $1,940 which is just about half of what the new air conditioning unit cost. I wasn't real happy with the company because I bought a policy expecting that either way I would get mine repaired or I would get a like unit installed, and it never happened. I wound up paying over half of the cost for the unit. If the contract reads that they would either repair or replace, I like to see them stay steady on that. I know that I'm still with them temporarily until I can find a better company. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody.

With American Home Shield , so far, so good. Unfortunately, this week, we had something else go wrong and it upsets me so much. I cannot believe that we've had two things go wrong within a month. There's not an actual company that AHS assigned us to for this next problem that we have. I tried to call the phone number that they provided, and there's like a 43-minute wait for them to come on the line. I don't even know who they are. It doesn't give me a name of who this company is, where they're located or where they're coming from. I have not heard from them. That's the only thing that I'm concerned about. We have lots of local companies that are much closer to where we live. There are good companies in the vicinity that AHS shouldn't have to call somebody an hour away. Other than that, I'm happy with what AHS has done for me so far.

I called American Home Shield for an air conditioning claim. Their air conditioning people called for an electrician. After that electrician came out, our air conditioner went out again. First, the unit would freeze, and then the techs don't come out. They clean it outside and inside and put it in again but then it would freeze again. One of the techs was charging my husband for the refrigerant he was gonna put in. But then, the techs found that the AC is still freezing our pipes so I don't know why my husband has to pay them. AHS's techs can't seem to fix what my problem is. They have been out at my place a bunch of times. This problem has been going for three or four weeks.

I live in Texas and it's hot here. When we started using the AC at the beginning of the spring, we noticed there was a problem. This is the second year that we've called American Home Shield about the air conditioning unit. So the first year, the contractor came out and they said everything was functioning fine. That was early September in 2019. By end of the year, it starts to get cooler sometimes. Here in Texas it's still hot. But we just went with the fans. Come to 2020, it's hot. So we called them out and A/C Rescue came out. They took a look at it and they said we needed some things. We had three more visits. The AC started working. They replaced the compressor and some other stuff. It started working. But we still having the same problem. We have two AC units. The one downstairs kept triggering the circuit breaker.
Two different folks serviced us. But the last folk to come out here and serviced us was A/C Rescue. We were having the circuit tripped and they said that it needed a few things. The guy showed to my husband what was going on. This situation ran my electrical bill extremely high the entire summer. Our bill was $400 or more. So it definitely needs to be fixed.
When you submit a claim, you call and wait. They put you on hold and then you go through trying to explain the situation. But they're only interested in the issue currently at hand. They don't understand that this is the same issue that we've been calling them out for the entire summer. It's never been fixed and that was what we explained to them. They patched it up and replaced things. I asked them why don't they put in a new unit? Since the thing is not working. No matter what they do. It's running up my bill. But they said they gotta go through these steps. That was fine. But when you come out here six to seven times and I gotta pay a $75 fee every time you come out here, that gets to be a little bit annoying. American Home Shield had the audacity to send me a bill for $75 and they haven't fixed it from the last time they came out here.
Good afternoon Terrance,

No air was blowing from the AC but digitally, the thermostat was on. I called Home Shield and they sent me an email when to expect the contractors out. The only thing is if somebody's AC is out, make it like a rush order. I talked to somebody and they said if I wanted a rush order, I would have to pay out of pocket for that. But the A-1 Quality Care tech was nice. The unit we have is old and they don't make that machine anymore. They had to order a part and they couldn't get it locally. They said it's gonna take 10 business days and they haven't gotten the problem done yet. Our AC hasn't been blowing for the past week and a half. I've called them a few times and he said I'm first on the list and once the part comes in, they would be out here.
The first claim that I put in with Home Shield was for our dryer. We didn't wash clothes for a couple of days after we moved in and when we did and we put the laundry in the dryer, the dryer was broken. We had to hang our clothes around the house and wait for the contractor to come out. They said there was a fire issue in the back for the dryer and Home Shield said they couldn't help me with that. They said that the issue was an existing problem before we got the insurance. But the thing was that we bought the house and the inspectors inspected everything and they would've said our dryer was not working but they didn't say any of that.
I called them twice and asked if I could get another company here. They said if they have another person come in for the same issue, I was gonna have to pay the deductible again. I said it was fine because I thought the first guy was just not wanting to fix the parts. I had a second person come in and said there was no fire. He said something on the bearings was busted. When I talked to Home Shield, they said it was an existing problem. I told them I was not gonna go back and forth with them. I thought they were gonna take care of this, being that it's just some bearings. I told them I was not trying to get a new dryer out of them. I just want them to fix it. We're hanging our clothes all around the house. They said they would see what they can do and I never heard back from them. We ended up buying a used dryer and I didn't call back.
We got the house knowing that it was old and a lot of the stuff is outdated so I told my Realtor if the previous owners can pay for one year of home insurance, we would get the house. Then, we would start paying for the home insurance after the year is up. The previous homeowners said yes and they went with Home Shield. When we go and get insurance next year, I don't know if I'm gonna go with Home Shield because that was kind of like a bad start.

We had a leak in our downstairs bathroom. Normally, when we think of a leak, it's plumbing, that's why we requested a plumber to come out. The gentleman was very nice when he presented. I showed him exactly where the leak was and the water. He touched the ceiling and identified that it was wet so he cut a hole in it in order to look at the piping, and when he looked at the piping, he saw that it was actually leaking from a pipe going to the air conditioner. So at that point, he said, because it's not a water pipe, and it's related to the air conditioning, he has to transfer it over to the air conditioning company. The plumbing guy was very nice.
The air conditioning company, Jet, which we have been using through American Home Shield for quite some time, was absolutely terrible and awful. They came out and confirmed that it was leaking from the air conditioning and the piping needed to be replaced. It was on a Friday and they told us that they were gonna come out on Monday to replace it around nine o'clock in the morning. Come Monday, around 10:30, I said to my husband that they didn't come yet so we called them and they said they would not go because insurance denied the claim. We had to get a different air conditioning company to come and fix it because our whole downstairs bathroom is flooding and it's wet. It's just ridiculous.
The air conditioning company that we found that we are paying out of pocket is coming tomorrow to fix it. With their assessment, they identified that the reason it’s leaking is that the coils to the air conditioning unit on the inside and the outside are corroding and rusting, which has caused this issue. Jet had failed to identify that on their multiple visits out and I wonder why AHS is still using them. Then this air conditioning company that we're utilizing also said that both units need to be replaced, so we're going to be submitting that documentation to AHS for a claim that it would be replaced, ‘cause that’s the reason we’re having this leaking.

The claim is still out there, and we are frustrated beyond measure. The tech came out, and he did immediately. He said that we needed two new parts. So, they ordered. They were supposed to come out Tuesday. Home Shield called Tuesday morning and said, “Oh, we're so sorry. We have one part. We're still waiting on the other part, we have to cancel it.” So, we have been without a refrigerator now for over a month. They have no idea when the part will get here. We still can't get anybody out here to get it fixed. We have no idea if the part has even been ordered. The tech said at one point that they didn't make it anymore. So, he would talk to Home Shield because they just needed to get us a new refrigerator. And then, they were all of a sudden saying, “No, we found the part.” But they obviously haven't found the part. And this has been going on back and forth.
What I need to do is talk to a supervisor who can make something happen, because, for a month, nothing has happened. The contractor said as soon as they get the go-ahead and they hear that they have the part, they would be out of here in a day. So, the issue is not with them. It's with Home Shield, and the lack of being honest with us and telling us. I don't know if they know there's no part and they just don't want to get another refrigerator, so they're stalling. I don't know what they're doing. My husband has tried to talk to people higher up. They wouldn't connect us to anyone. He's an attorney, and he's at the point that he's about to write a demand letter. It has gotten that bad. I am a real estate agent who has recommended Home Shield to numerous clients. But that's gonna stop because this is absurd. It's crazy for me to be without a refrigerator.

There was a problem with the water heater. I submitted a claim with AHS and it was quick and easy. Scheduling an appointment was easy as well. Once I got the appointment, I got a call from the company that I was allotted to, which I also got pretty soon. They gave me a reminder call that the technician was going to be here and when he came out, he realized what the issue was as soon as I told him what was going on. So he quickly went and fixed it. It hardly took 15 minutes for him and so far, I don't see any issues after the repair. Overall, I had a very good experience with AHS.

The guys from AC Rescue were very nice. They came and they let me know right off that the issue I had wasn't covered under warranty. They knew what the problem was, and they went ahead and fixed it. The blade was rusted. They said it would take five minutes to just get it out and clean it and put it back. That resolved the problem. They were very gracious, very nice, very friendly and professional. They walked me through what they were doing. I stood out there with them, but I stood far away. They wore masks the whole time and took precautions. I was very grateful for that. I have not had any problems at all with American Home Shield. This is our second year to have them and submitting a claim has been very easy. I wasn't sure what to expect or what to do, but I went online and logged into the account and they walked me through it. It was very good. I've told people who I use.

We got AHS because we just bought a house. We had them for several years and they were great. We've done two claims with them. One was when we had a rekey and the other for a microwave. Submitting the claims was easy and it was all online. Also, having the contractors and scheduling were super easy. But trying to finalize and getting my microwave repaired is kind of a pain in the butt right now. The contractors were great and they came out when scheduled. But every time I call, it’s a two-hour wait. I had to buy an on-the-counter one just because it's a huge inconvenience. Any warranty company is worth having when you need it but nothing happens fast.

The first time he came out, he fixed it and it worked good for about an hour and a half. Then, I called back and he said I’d have to call American Home Shield back. So, I did and they immediately said there'd be problem. We issued another order to have them look and find out what happened. So, the tech came back and fixed it really well the second time. He had to go get the part and it caused the air conditioner to work fine. As for the furnace that didn't come on, it turned out that the thermostat was bad too and it burned everything up. All in all, everything was handled very well.
Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your service request. When the guy came out and did the plumbing, he noticed that our furnace was leaking. All my stuff in the garage from the furnace was wet. He had to clean out a tube. It blew out the sides of our house. He checked our air conditioning running without it. We needed Freon, so he put it in. He also showed us how to get that tube cleaned out so now we know and we can do it. So far, everything's been functioning fine. Somebody also came out to check my dishwasher and my freezer. He ordered parts for both of them. We're waiting on parts to come in now. Overall, American Home Shield has been good. They got right on it and got people out there for me. Everything was good on their end.

The hot water heater stopped working. So, I originally contacted American Home Shield for a water heater guy. The water heater guy noticed that it was just something with the panel. So, he contacted Quality Electrical Contractors, and then they put the claim in. The electrician was really good. We had to take cold baths, and I have a one-year-old. So, the repair was awesome. I got hot water now. I’m new to American Home Shield, and thank God I had it. They helped a lot. My uncle has American Home Shield, and he referred me to them. The only thing is I don't think he got the $25 referral yet.

The dryer was doing everything it was supposed to do, except heat. It would start, stop, and tumble, but when you reached in, the clothes were still wet. So there was no heat. I was very impressed with the tech that they sent out. He looked at it and needed a part. He got the part in very quickly and came and put it in for us, at what was convenient for our schedule. The dryer is good as new.

It was a good experience with American Home Shield. I went online, put in a call for service for the AC, and had a very quick response from Home Shield. They gave me the name of the company that would be contacting and taking care of my issue. The contractor was very good and the repair went well. He did everything in one day. The only thing I’m concerned about, and it may be norm, is when the compressor or the air conditioner kicks in, it’s like it's a big thump. I’m normally hearing a lot of that. I don’t know if I need to call the company back or if that's normal. Otherwise, it's cooling.

I like the man from Prestige Plumbing. He's done a real good job. We had a valve problem in the bathroom and a stoppage in the house. He fixed both of them. He put some drain stuff in there then snaked it. I love American Home Shield. In fact, we used them so much that we didn't think they'll renew us this year. I tell everybody about them. For $50 a month, you cannot beat it. I just wish they had a better way to get in contact with. I had to wait hours when I talked to somebody. I really liked it when I could call in then they'd call me back. I didn't have to wait. I called and left a phone number then somebody called me back and asked me what was wrong.

The first time that the technician from Premiere came out, he fixed the AC unit. Then as soon as he was leaving, he saw that there was a leak, which was why I was losing my Freon. So, I had to call and make another appointment with American Home Shield because he was done with that visit. He came out with the Freon and I had to pay for it again because it had leaked out again, which I was a little upset about. But that wasn't their fault. American Home Shield didn't charge me for the visit but they should have covered the Freon and they didn’t.
When the technician came, he rang the bell and said he would be outside. He didn’t have to come in. He called me just before he left and said everything was fixed. I've had no problems since and it’s been working fine. They were very reliable. The contractor that we had the year before was horrendous. You couldn't get a hold of them. They never answered the phone and wouldn’t return your calls. That summer last year, I was without air conditioning for almost two months. So, I was glad when AHS changed to this particular company because they were very good.
The year before, AHS was hard to get ahold of. This time, it was easier and they took care of everything. I had to go through all these companies that were in India and wherever they were, and I never got to talk directly to anybody here. This time with getting Premier, I got directly connected to American Home Shield right here and I was happy about that. I don't wanna be going to these other people. They don't understand me and they don't know what I'm talking about. Also, you don't get the same person the next time you call back. There are always these numbers that they revert you to. So, I'm not happy when they do that. It was a little bit better set-up this time. I have recommended American Home Shield to some of my coworkers and they've purchased it. AHS is a little pricey but it is what it is.

American Home Shield was very responsive. They answered both my tickets over the weekend and their contractor came out the next Tuesday. When their contractor called Watertight Pool & Spa came out the first time, my main pump needed an O-ring. The second time, my booster pump needed a seal. Both times, they fixed my issue and everything was fine. Had I made one call though for both the main pump and my booster pump, Watertight would have been able to come and fix both the issues and I would only have to pay the $125 deductible once. Instead, I paid twice as Watertight told me that the other pump was not on his work order and so he couldn't fix it.
The same thing happened with my claim for my air conditioning unit and AHS's techs came out when my drip line was blocked. The contractor said that he couldn't look at my work order. I understand why Home Shield does that to make a profit and so, they don't assume that there are two pumps or air conditioning units that need to be attended to. It is very little effort though for the contractor doing the work but for a homeowner like me, paying $125 each time a contractor is really difficult.
From now on, when I call anything, I'll tell AHS that something is happening with both my units so I only have to pay $125 once. Other than that, AHS has been fantastic. Previously I had Home Warranty of American and they were the worst. I wanted to run away screaming. They lied to me and I couldn't talk to a supervisor. Two weeks after we moved in, our hot water unit went out and at first, HWA denied the claim. I had to show them the inspection report to say that when we bought the house, it was working. After we got that ,they told me that they were gonna replace the unit with the same kind. It was a Rinnai which is a hot water tankless system that was very expensive. When the time came ot purchase the replacement, HWA said they were not gonna purchase the same unit. Instead, they were gonna give me a cheaper one. They gave me a buyout of $960 and I ended up paying $1300 to get the water heating unit installed. I had to call, yell, scream and call some more. I'll never go with them again. In contrast, AHS sends out alerts and I get email correspondence from them.

We were having a leaky pipe in our bathroom and in our kitchen. Ferguson and Sons came and they did a great job. But Home Shield has a lot of stuff they could do better. They have a lot of policies and their prices have gotten so high. It's kinda hard to justify keeping them. We were paying Home Shield around $63 a month but now we're paying $75 a month for a service call. So we may have been much better served by just putting that $63 a month in a savings account.
I understand the code requirements are what they are, but a lot of times, Home Shield vendors aren't really transparent, like on what happened with our water heater and with an air conditioning repair. They were telling us that all these things have to be done and that we have to pay for to bring things up to code before they would fix things. But you can't find what the code says. It doesn't exist like, "Here's what you have to do to put a new water heater in your house." They should be able to point me to a website that says, "This is the standard that you need to meet."
With our water heater, we got a quote to do $1,300 worth of work before they would replace the water heater. Nobody could point you to the code and I couldn't go on the internet and read what needed to be done. I just needed to take that vendor's word for it and pay them or else get bought out of the water heater. The same thing happened with our air conditioner. We ended up taking the payout with the water heater and found a local plumber who put a new water heater in for us for half of the things that needed to be done. There were things that we had to do to bring the water heater up to code, but if Home Shield's gonna put me in a position to pay their vendor a bunch of money, then I need to see where legally I need to do that.
The water pressure coming into our house is too high but they won't cover fixing it. Home Shield also just let problems lump along. Instead, we paid them $75 every couple of years to come replace all the cartridges that the high water pressure has blown out and made our sink start leaking. My only reservation about ditching them altogether is I know that my air conditioner is the old Freon standard and they don't make that Freon anymore. At some point, I'm ultimately gonna have to replace my air conditioner. But I kinda doubt they're gonna do it.
When our air conditioner never cooled our house in the heat of summer, we paid Home Shield 75 to get the company come out. The company comes and said, "That's just as good as it gets." So if something really goes wrong with the air conditioner, maybe they'll help me financially meddle through it. We got Home Shield 22 years ago because we literally could not afford to fix anything that broke. Now, we have a little more wiggle room in our budget than we did 22 years ago.
The Home Shield people are nice people. But we've had some vendor who was supposed to come out who didn't show or call. I started learning to read about the vendors on Yelp because there seems to be a lot of vendors in my area that really get most of their business through Home Shield. My problem went along so many extra days because the vendor just didn't uphold their end of the bargain. But the people who were with Ferguson were nice. If we choose to pay on our own to get our water pressure fixed, we will call them to do it. 22 years ago, Home Shield was a lot more affordable for us and a lot more needed for us. There's a lot of systems that have been replaced in this house by Home Shield. They fully replaced an air conditioner in this house and they replaced the water heater twice. But now, I'm not sure we're getting the use out of it.

Seriously disappointed in lack of cust. svc. I've been a customer of American Home Sheild for years & have never had such a bad experience! We have had repair techs out to "fix" our fridge at least 6 different times thus far & fridge is still broken (process started in June 2020 & it's now Oct. 2020). Each time we call AHS, we wait on the phone 1-2 hrs only to reach a rep who can't speak English well & know zero about our appliance or its requirements.
You'd think as long as AHS has been in business, they would have more knowledgable employees. Our fridge apparently can only be serviced by SEARS, but we have to remind AHS about this each time we call. Then they ignore us & assign us some random contractor... So we have to call back, wait 1-2hrs, only to reiterated the SEARS requirement. We've asked to speak to managers, which is denied. We've even been lied to by a phone rep, who told my husband she had spoken to me earlier that day, which never occurred. We're promised call-backs, which never occur. And our fridge is STILL broken after 4mos.
Are you still in need of assistance?

All this company wants is your money. We put in a service request about our refrigerator on July 28, 2020. They sent someone out. Of course we had to pay an additional fee. They sent out universal 1 repair and their service person stated what was wrong and would order the parts and replace when parts arrive. Today’s date is October 5, 2020 and still no parts, no calls, NOTHING. I have called AHS and they gave me an ear full of crap and said that I should call the company that is Sergio the fridge.
The company that is supposed to fix the fridge had an attitude with me because ahs told me to call them about the parts and told me that the parts are on back order and they don’t know when the parts are coming in. Also they stated that ahs has a parts department and ahs orders all parts. To this day nothing has happened. AHS tried to offer me a buyout $300 and I’d have to show proof that I brought a brand new fridge and not from a scratch and dent place and the brand new fridge must come with a warranty. Really!!! So 2 months without a fridge is ok to this company. Like I said all they want is your money. DO NOT USE AMERICAN HOME SHEILD. They will take your money and run.

We've had the guy from Astro Appliance come out twice, and now we’re requesting him to come out a third time because the issue hasn’t been resolved. The issue is that the fridge was not cooling properly, and there's some sort of issue with the defrost cycle where we get a lot of ice accumulation in the refrigerator instead of the freezer. They've come out a couple of times and checked the computer and servicing different components, but we're still seeing the problem.
I would like to see American Home Shield have a little bit more oversight with the folks they contract with. Astro Appliance is supposed to contact us probably within 24 to 48 hours of us requesting service. So, if we request service on Sunday, we expect to get a call on Monday. It's Wednesday and I've heard nothing from them. That's been consistent across all the service call. That’s been several days until I finally have to call them to get an appointment. Other than that, the warranty is very good to have. American Home Shield helped us when our air conditioner died on us in August, in the hottest part of the summer. They were able to get someone out the next day to service the equipment and get us back going again. So, it's a good investment to have and we plan to keep it, but a review of who their partners are would be a good idea.

Luckily, I had smelt the gas leak. and they pretty much knew what the problem was. I was really happy that it was prompt. But it took a little bit longer to get the part, but they were able to finish it the same day and I was thankful for that.
The smell was coming from the furnace before it's the furnace season, and it wouldn't have been maybe so fast. But they were there. They also did tests. When one of the tests came back, there was still a leak from the valve. So he called a senior supervisor out to make sure that he had replaced the part and that there was no leakage. There is no gas leak now and I feel confident when we turn on the furnace and the gas and we're not gonna have that issue. The service company itself tried to sign me up three times for their yearly thing. THE AC and the heater just got serviced so I didn't need that but the guy was a little pushy. I did a few claims with American Home Shield. The air conditioner claim was fine. Then I had the plumbing one which was okay, too. The guy fixed the leak. The issue was the one with my ceiling fan. My ceiling fan stopped working. So, the electrician came in and took it down. He put his little testers up there and he said, “Yup, it's dead. They're probably gonna replace it.” He said that he has to put a different box that was up there. He also said, “So, that's a different thing. But I'll do my report, and you'll probably hear from them next week.”
I got an email from American Home Shield, and they said that I needed to call because there was an issue with my claim. Finally, I called and I talked to one person after being on hold and disconnected three times. That's been an issue. I was about to start calling again today because yesterday I couldn't get through. I was told that the first thing I had to do was pay $275 because the electrician needed to put a new box up there. The guy said, “Then we'll replace your fan”. I said, “Okay. I have the make and model number and everything of my fan. Can you tell me what fan they're gonna replace it with?” He said that after I'd pay the $275, then they'll tell you. I said, “No, no. I need to know if you're gonna replace it with the same fan.”
The fan that I have is a Minka-Aire fan, and it was $339. He said, “Oh, it'll be the same specs, different brand.” I asked what he meant by that. I said, “So, first of all, I paid $100 for the service call. Now, I have to pay 275. And now you're gonna give me any kind of fan to go up there.” It was a back and forth with him. Then I said, “Well, what about the cash out option?” Maybe I'll just do that, and then I'll just get somebody else to help me fix it.
In the meantime, I looked up my fan. I called the manufacturer and they said it's probably just the sensor, and the sensor has to be reset. He said, “I’ll walk you through resetting the sensor.” I can't do that because the electrician that came out totally disconnected it from the power. Now, it's not gonna connect to the power. I called again to speak to someone in the cash out department with a lady named Tiffany who was just transferred there. I explained everything to her. She came back with a number of $50. That is what they're gonna replace my $335 fan with after I already paid 100. I have to pay another $275, then they're gonna give me a $50 fan. I’m not happy at all. I get that it might not be the same exact model. But I even went back, called the electrician back and forth and he said, “Yeah, they're not gonna give you the same kind of fan.”
I have to get somebody else and I gotta pay another person to come and hook my fan back up to the electric. Then I'm gonna call the vendor and have them reset. If it's just that the sensor needed to be reset, then I'm out 100 bucks for calling American Home Shield because I thought that they would research the problem. The guy they sent didn't even go into the wall to see if maybe the light switch was the reason. He just took it down, put his tester, and said, “Nope, she's dead.”
When I called about the fan, I asked, “Do these fans just die like that?” They said they don't and they also have a lifetime warranty. So, I went to the manufacturer of that fan. I called the electrician back and said, “Yeah, pretty much, that's all they're gonna give you is a $50 fan.” So, even the cash out was $50. Tiffany was so sweet but she said, “I just got transferred here in the department so I can't answer all of your questions.” She put me on hold, then she called me back and said she called the electrician and he said it will be a $50 fan. But when I called him, he acted like he didn't talk to her. He said, “No, I wouldn't tell them that.”
I'm so fed up. I have spent almost $500, because then last year, I had Home Shield and I had an issue with my icemaker. They sent somebody out. They brought a new icemaker in. Then I cancelled my contract because I had some billing issues. Then I kept getting all these comeback letters with offers. So, I gave them a second try. The icemaker went again. I called and they sent somebody out. Two weeks after he was gone, it stops making ice then starts making ice. He was here August 5th and I called like this third week in September. They said, “Nope, you gotta pay another $100.” I said, “That's gonna be $300. Can you make an exception?” They said I was past my 30 days. So, it didn't make ice for the entire beginning of October. It just started making ice again two days ago. It's not normal for it not to make ice for three weeks. Then all of a sudden, it makes ice, and then it stops. That’s what I’m experiencing.
I also bought the electronics plan, and that was fine. They fixed my TV and brought it back. I paid that in full. That was 200 something. Then I paid 100 for the air conditioner, 100 for the plumbing, 100 for the refrigerator and 100 for the fan. That's 400 just for that. I'm over it. I was gonna try back again to see what I could get for cash out. It's been so stressful.
The guy with the air conditioner was awesome. It was like 80 degrees, and the air conditioner stopped putting out cold air, and it was so hot in here. He came when he was supposed to come. He was very professional. He figured out the problem, had the part in his truck and fixed it right then and there. The home warranty is great for big stuff like that. But I paid $100 for this guy to come and stop the leak. He put a little teeny piece of pipe on. I’ve had three people told me they could’ve done it for a quarter of that price. All it needed was a little extender on there. It's those little things that you put out that money, and it's really a teeny job. I'm happy with the air conditioner service, but with the other four services, I'm not. Once I get it straightened out, I'm probably gonna cancel and not have a home warranty. I’m gonna take that money that I spend every month and save it for an emergency fund.

I had an issue with humidity in the home and we were trying to figure out its cause. Several people were coming out and I also had mold because of the issue. I had a service done in early August since I had a free coupon from previous use with Ace Heating & Cooling to do a yearly checkup on my system. But the problem with the humidity was still there. I then had an indoor air quality specialist come because I had mold and that person was the one that noticed that my AC wasn't turning off, so I called Ace Heating back out. It turned out that the fan motor was bad in my AC unit. So it was constantly running and pulling in humidity into the house. They replaced my fan motor but within a couple days, the house was hot again and the AC was just blowing hot air.
There was a blown capacitor in the unit, so they had to replace the capacitor the next time that they came back out. I also had them come and put the APCO system to kill mold and things out of my ductwork. I have asthma and with the mold issue in the house, I thought this would be a good addition to my AC unit to prevent any further issues. I had been speaking with them about that and the technician told me about the system and some options. Since then, I haven't had any issue since.
Other than that, it's pretty easy to submit a claim online with AHS. I usually call them as well because I want them to be aware that I'm submitting it, so that I can get them to contact me as soon as possible to schedule from there, since I've been working with them for a bit. For my last claim, the issue that I had was pretty severe with the mold, so during that time, I was giving them a heads up. They told me to give it about an hour afterwards and that they'd call me and get me scheduled. The process was pretty simple but it was difficult to reach American Home Shield's customer service that time. I don't know if that was because of COVID, but my boyfriend also has them and he would be on hold for hours trying to call them. Despite that, as far as the service and the value for what I pay, AHS is great.

The claim was easy but the wait time to get ahold of American Home Shield was hell. I was on the phone waiting on hold for over an hour. The hold time was ridiculous. But after the claim was established, the contractor came out though I had to wait a little bit of time given COVID. The guy did what he was supposed to. He came in and was prepared. He didn't make a mess and didn't scratch anything. It was good. My oven wasn't working at all and it works now.

American Home Shield gave such excellent services for me in the past because I've been a client for years. I've always loved them and I tell every person I know to go and join them. But the experience has changed. I reported that my two dryers are broken and I need two dryers. The contractor came and repaired one. He was excellent. They let me know that they couldn’t repair the second one. They'd replace it and that's when the nightmare started because nothing is happening.
When I called American Home Shield, it was about 20 minutes to speak to somebody. I run a medical clinic with my staff and my staff hasn't got time to sit for a hour to wait to speak to somebody. Eventually, they said they’re going to replace the dryer because they can't fix it. There was a two-hour waiting list to speak to somebody. Then I spoke to someone who told me they'd send an e-mail right away. We never received that email.
The day before yesterday, I had a day off and thought, “Let me tackle it myself.” I was for nearly an hour on the phone to try and speak to one of their people. I said I was very upset and the next moment after I said it, the rep hang up on me right away. Nobody hangs up on a person on professional levels. That was the worst experience. If one of my staff in all my clinics worldwide hangs up on a client, they will be fired instantly. I started again and waited another 30, 40 minutes to speak to somebody and I explained to her. She was kind and said, “They send you two emails.” I said, “We received no emails. Not at all.” I told her to use my second email address. She took that down and said, “We’ll send it out the next day.”
That was Tuesday and today is Friday. That email hasn't come through. I'm not going to sit for another hour on the phone. To get through to their service is horrible. They keep on to saying it's because of COVID. What has COVID got to do with waiting for two hours on service? They are going to lose every day business and I'll make sure of that ‘cause I'm very angry. I'm going to report it to the Better Business Bureau and put it up on social media ‘cause that's really horrible service.

My piping was flaring out and it was starting to leak. My faucet was stiffening up from dirt and old age. The final service when JED Plumbing and Gas was able to get in was pretty quick. Having American Home Shield takes the worry of getting a tech out to my location. Sometimes, even getting one out here is pretty expensive. AHS picks somebody and they come out. On the 25th, it would be a year that we have Home Shield here. Recently, we had a claim about our furnace. The tech came over and said it was just a crusted wire. We ended up having to call them back because we looked at it but it didn't look crusty. He made it work for a bit, and then we had to call them back out because it stopped working again. We had another claim for a drain and he came over and did that too. In both cases, the techs were professional and timely.

I also had a garbage disposal that was broken and a problem with the sprayer hose in the kitchen sink that sprays the vegetables. I had to wait so long for the parts to come in. But other than that, A Discount Plumbing did an excellent job. The technician was very professional and very knowledgeable about his business. He was also very polite, courteous and he explained to me the situation why they were having a problem getting the part. Once we got the part, he called me right away and came in the next day and hooked it all up. I was very satisfied with the contractor, and I recommend his company for this area. I was well pleased with American Home Shield and I told several of my friends about American Home Shield, and I'm hoping that they decide they will look into doing business with them.

He told me what my problem was with my icemaker. Filing the claim was easy and I was rather shocked. I just went online, typed it in and within 24 hours someone was contacting me.

My husband mostly dealt with the plumber that we got through American Home Shield, but we've had a good experience with them. We started to have some sort of issue with our main drain where a small amount of water was coming up through it. It looked like our food disposal in our InSinkErator was not flowing correctly, so there were like egg shells and stuff coming up out of the drain. The contractors were very professional. It's been really easy to just give American Home Shield a call and get someone scheduled to come out.

One of the burners on my stove was getting hot randomly. The guy from Able Heating and A/C came out and he knew right away that it was one of the switches or the switch for that burner. So, they ordered the part, and came out and fixed it two days later. The only one I had difficulty with in submitting a claim was with the HVAC. I had to do one recently with the drain line for the AC which got clogged. American Home Shield didn't have anything specific for that. Ultimately, I called and scheduled, and it was fine.

American Home Shield has been okay for the most part, except for the light fixture in our range hood that we have right now is pending, where they just dropped the ball and we haven't received anything from there. They sent some people out and said that no parts were available for it, but they never called to finish up wrapping that or closing that particular case. They found some sort of loophole in their guidelines saying that it was part of the wiring. They tried to convince us that it was not covered because that wiring for that light in the range hood was part of that exception. Unless we instigate something, I don't think it's gonna get followed up with. We feel screwed.
Recently, we had some air conditioning issues and they sent somebody out. The technician said that the air conditioner was no longer worth repairing. It took us about two weeks of me calling AHS to get someone back out here again because they kept on saying they were waiting for the contractor to send them a parts list. But how could they have a parts list if the guy said that the unit's toasted? They didn't follow up very well and so I called them. I even contacted the contractor and asked about our air conditioner. Normally, if something is irreparable, they would cast us out, it’s beyond their limit. I had this experience with our house in Garden Valley where our range hood was obsolete. They couldn't fix it, so they cast us out for it. But that never happened.
Another technician came from the same company and got the unit going and then it was working. There was a leak in it and then before the 24 hours expired, the unit stopped working. They came out again and fixed it. It's been working fine now. However, if it wasn't for my follow-up and calling them, Home Shield would’ve never said or done anything.
Home Shield should proactively follow-up on items that are not dealt with or fixed immediately. They could say, “This is wrong. You can't get your parts that’s in the contract,” or “We'll cash you out,” like they did with the other one, and that was fine. We make a decision. We go out and find something to replace it. If we upgrade, that's up to us. At least we had that option. We have three houses, and I usually have a home warranty on the older ones. I would reconsider signing them up again.

My recent experience with American Home Shield was very good. I had three claims. One was for the garage door opener and the tech they sent came right away and fixed it. The other one was for my stovetop and Home Shield did their part and approved the replacement. The claim is in GE's hands not but so far, I haven't received any confirmation when they will replace my unit.
So far, submitting claims to AHS has been very simple. I just call and they assign a company to come. With my stovetop claim, GE arrived and the tech said that my unit needed a valve which he cannot replace as that item has been discontinued. He then gave a report to American Home Shield. Overall, AHS is a very good company.

The technician checked everything out and everything was good to go. Putting in the service request though was a little difficult. I got an email reminding to have a checkup done. I clicked on the link, went to the site, and put in a request. But you didn’t put in the service request, it actually put in a request to have a diagnostic test. When this person called me, he was trying to ask me what the issue was. I was like, “Nothing. It’s just for the checkup.” So then, I guess I had to call somebody and they had to change it. They seemed to have to close that one out and open up a new one.

My stove and my dishwasher broke and I had to buy new ones. The appliance man who looked at my dishwasher said to me, "Why don't you buy one of those home plans?" I called American Home Shield and told them I had three houses. They were more than willing to cover it. Unfortunately, they're probably not happy with me because once I bought the policy, everything broke. I had to use them five times. I don't want these things to break, but the reason I bought it is because I'm getting too old to be worrying about three houses anymore, and this was convenient. I had a control board that shorted out and Total Air Care fixed it. They had to order the board and then come back, which took six days. I was lucky. The weather had broken and we had six days of cooler weather. Otherwise, I would not have been happy.
I've been more than happy with American Home Shield, but right now, I'm not. In fact, I have a dispute going on. I called them out to fix my hot tub and they said they don't fix above ground hot tubs. I said, "All right. But then, take off the $10 a month that you're charging me and refund me the $30 for the three months that you did charge me." The representative said he couldn't do that. They can't adjust the price. I said, "You're gonna charge me for the next nine months for something that you don't cover?" He said yes.
When I asked to speak to a supervisor, he said one wasn't available and one would call me back, which of course they never have. They cannot charge me for something I don't have or they don't cover. Because my hot tub broke, I got rid of it, so I don't even have it here anymore. My credit card company has stopped all payments to American Home Shield and now they're fighting my charge card company because I took it up with them. If I have to, I'll go to another company.
I paid a $100 service fee for something that they don't service. I'd like to have $100 back too. In one of the houses. I paid a $100 service fee for a garage door opener. When the contractor got there, it turns out that my tenant's son adjusted the chain and that's why it broke. I was angry with my tenant because I wouldn't have had to pay the service fee if she had been honest with me, but I didn't fight American Home Shield's service for it. I said I was not aware of the adjustment and I paid the 100. However, why should I pay a $100 service fee plus an extra $10 a month for something that they don't cover? I'm very angry. If they wanna lose my business and their reputation for a lousy $10 a month, there's something wrong with them.

I have two different properties with American Home Shield and I've been very satisfied, thus far. They were very quick to answer the call and they'd get there on time. The only issue I had was in my Chicago Ridge condo. A company was supposed to replace the faucet and change a shutoff valve for the stacked washer-dryer there. But they only did one of the two. They said that the issue with the shutoff valve was the condo association had to shut off the water. I told them that they could coordinate a time to do that with the condo association but they never did. I contacted my property manager and they said that they never heard from that company at all. We had it years ago when we first bought our house, and we let it lapse, but it was outstanding then too. When I had #1 Garage Door come out for a torsion spring, the guy did a good job, but most of it wasn't covered under the warranty. There was one piece that was covered, and then the big part of it was not covered and it was specifically excluded. Still, American Home Shield has been great. It wasn't difficult to submit the claim to American Home Shield but it was difficult to get someone to take care of it. The garbage disposal wasn't working at all and when you click the button, there was no sound. AHS sent a service person out and an appliance person, and they didn't know what to do. Then, they sent an electrician out and he didn't know what to do either.
The plumber was the first one to say that it wasn't getting power. He went out to his car and got something and came back in. Whatever he did, it came on. So, he said the power wasn't coming through on one of the wires. AHS then sent the electrical person back out again yesterday. I told him what happened and he did whatever he did. He said it was not getting any power. Then he said that he would let AHS know and now, they’re saying that they don't take care of that particular type of claim. They said that it wasn't wear and tear, but it was. If it was working in the beginning, for four years, then that wire must have worn out. The person I talked to reached out to a supervisor and AHS is going with the findings that the electrician told them.
I am completely dissatisfied with AHS because I haven't had anything fixed and I don't wanna keep paying. The garbage disposal wasn't fixed. I asked about the dishwasher and they sent an appliance person out and that wasn’t fixed. The garage door was going up and down and they sent somebody out for that, and he thought he fixed it. But the next day, the door was doing the same thing. It would go up sometimes and sometimes, it wouldn't. You have to fool with the wire on the floor on the ground to make the door go up. Many people came out for that one thing and I'm tired of calling AHS and different people in and out. Somebody's supposed to come back out about the garage door, so I'm gonna let them come out Wednesday, but after that, I probably won't.
Are you still in need of assistance?

I've had two companies working with the air conditioner. The first company that came out was horrible. The second company that came out was stellar. The first company was a horrible experience because, given the time we're living in, I insisted that anybody coming to my house to do anything should wear a mask, and the guy had a mask on, but we had to keep reminding him to keep it in place. He revealed to us at a certain point in the service call that he thought that he thinks the virus is a hoax. He was trying to politicize all of this stuff, which was really annoying to me, because I didn't wanna have that conversation.
When he was here, he went up into my attic, looked at the ductwork and fiddled with some dampers. He said there was nothing that can be done about our problem. He said we needed a dual zone heating-cooling system. I asked him for the rough estimate and he said it would be about 15,000. Then he left. So I called back American Home Shield and told them the guy didn't do anything. So they sent out a tech from another company, who was incredibly different. He was well put together. He went into the attic, looked at everything, and then he went outside and looked at the actual air conditioning unit, even though he is a duct specialist and he worked on the air conditioning unit and pumped in some more coolant. The air conditioning unit is working much better now.
He also confirmed that the ductwork is at its maximum capacity and that a dual system would work better. But the price that he quoted me off the top of his head was less than half of what the other guy quoted. So the other guy was scammy. When I called American Home Shield and complained about the first technician, the customer service person said they were gonna send the second person out. They're on their star list. They have like upper tier vendors that they contract with. But why didn't they send the second company in the first place? We've had this on a number of occasions where somebody came out and said they couldn't do anything.
I've also had some good experiences with American Home Shield. When there was a problem with the heater, they replaced it immediately. But most of my experiences, they're like a lot of pushing and shoving. I had a refrigerator that was relatively new, but they replaced the refrigerator only after how many months it went on for. They kept coming out and putting a bandaid on the problem. They were wrapping up stuff with tin foil to try to get the condenser to work properly. We asked them how many times did they have to do that since they've been out here four times. They finally gave in and said they couldn't fix it anymore and they put in the refrigerator.
When we moved in, the dishwasher was a mess and American Home Shield replaced it immediately. So they do well on some things. When the glass on the inside of the oven cracked, they came out and replaced that. Sometimes, it depends on the contractor that they send out. It's annoying that in cases where it's not working, I have to really plead my case. I have spent a lot of time working to get through to them to get resolution but it shouldn't be that difficult. But to be fair, this is the case with many companies today.
There are so many layers of automated phone systems that it's next to impossible to get people on the phone and then when you do, a lot of large companies employ call centers offshore, so sometimes there are language barriers with non-native English speakers. But I'm not trying to be difficult. I taught English for 20 years and I continue to teach at the college level. I have lots of non-native English speakers and I understand the challenges very clearly.
If American Home Shield is going to employ a call center, then they should make sure that those people have the kind of training they need to properly communicate. We've had people that were very difficult to understand. In a couple of cases, my wife has gotten frustrated and just said they would call back. She would call back and try to get somebody else on the line, but at which point, we've wasted a huge amount of time because it always took a chunk of time to get through. But to American Home Shield's credit, they're one of the companies that gives you the callback option, which I deeply appreciate. Rather than having a headphone plugged into my ear or just my phone stuck up to the side of my head. At a certain point into the call, it would say, "If you'd like us to call back, press one," and then you can hang up and they call you back. That's a plus. There are companies that don't have that option and it's frustrating.

I've always scheduled my claim by calling them. It's easier. I could get through to somebody right away. If I do it online, it's a waiting process. But if I call them, I get them right then, and they take my claim and send it out to somebody. But they will check. If you have somebody you prefer to use, they're more than cooperative in letting you choose them as long as it's one of their vendor suppliers. They've always been easy to work with. Whoever they have sent has always been good. I've never had an issue with anybody that they selected.

People feel comfortable when they have insurance and think that they will help. That's what the insurance is for. But I've been with AHS a lot and they should trust me more than anybody else. For instance, my furnace broke and they just offered me a $500 check. But 500 is nothing and is the cost of just one piece, not the whole furnace work. That kind of made me look for a different insurance company. I'm paying $100 every month, so it comes to $1,200 a year, and I barely use it. Since we don't have a handyman, having AHS is better than nothing. But I'm not satisfied with them.
I had so many works with AHS and most of their techs leave the work unfinished. They're not professional when it comes to cleaning up and one of the mess they left is still open. They were supposed to put a patch back in but they said it was not their job. Now, I have to pay for the patch. Some of the contractors are also lazy to open the right place. The only tech I liked was Max and he was the last one who came out for a plumbing issue. He was very nice and on time. at another time, I had an electricity problem in my garage and when the techs came out, they couldn't go to the attic. It was hard and they just made an excuse. They said it was not the right thing and not legal. But I told them that I bought this house the same way. All in all, you're lucky if you get a good worker. But most of the time, they're not good and not honest.

But once I got to a rep, it was much easier. They sent me the info of the contractor and I called right away because I wanted to make sure they can come out right away. The place was perfect. The customer service at AHS usually keeps on hold for 40 minutes. The other day, my property manager tried calling AHS and the call was on hold for 40 minutes every time. As a property manager, he has 10 different properties so he cannot wait for 40 minutes on one call. Also, submitting a claim is easy but the service time varies. I have two homes and two policies. There was an issue with the washer in the rental and there was a wait time of 8 to 10 days. Then, I had a request for the AC in my home and it took them eight days. They fixed the issue but we were without AC and we got a portable AC ourselves for $300. But recently, we had another AC claim and it was very quick. The AC water drain was not draining properly and the unit itself was working hard. The tech from Air Doctor came out and he knew what exactly the problem was. He helped us in no time. There was some cleaning effort required and he fixed it.

American Home Shield is a great purchase. I've had it for several years now and we've had to use it a few times. It definitely helps you out when you have something major happen to where you're not having to shell out $500, $600 which is what it would have cost me had I done it on my own. It's definitely an investment that's well worth it. The refrigerator was not cooling at all so I called them. They got somebody out pretty quick. The people that came out, Busy Bee, were extremely nice and answered all my questions. They gave me a timeline as far as how long they felt it would take to get it repaired. It pretty much stayed within that timeline, maybe a little bit less. Then they came back out, got it fixed, and got me up and running again.

Usually, when he replaces the sensor, which is what broke on the door, he also replaces the control module. When he turned the order in, only one part was shipped so the other part never came in. He said he was gonna try and get the other part but I haven't heard back from him. But he was very professional. I haven't hooked up the washing machine yet because I was waiting for the other part. We submitted a claim with AHS for one of the pipes on the sink that busted. The contractor that came fixed it and everything's working well. He was a real professional, helpful and explained stuff. However, our experience with AHS has been up and down. When I had a problem with my air condition, they didn't wanna pay any money for it. The AC we had was almost 18 years old and I've been with AHS for a long time. We've already had two new units that we paid for. They didn't give a dime for it. I thought I'd get a lawyer because it makes no sense.
They advertise stuff on TV, "Call American Home Shield. We'll take care of you." But when we got something that's 18 years old, or older than that, they still don't wanna take care of the problem the correct way. The contractors got out here so many times, putting Freon in them. We've had to pay that out of pocket, the majority of it. It just got to a point, we couldn't keep throwing money away in an old unit. Even the AC people who came out here said, "You're just throwing away your money." We had to pay for everything else, the Freon, it was ridiculous.

It’s more the ductwork than the HVAC system and the way that the house is vented, it wasn’t getting a certain part of my house cool. So, the way that the house was designed, they said that there was no way that it could be fixed until they get into walls and just redo the ductwork, redirect the ductwork. It was freezing on the top of the refrigerator, but it wasn't cooling at the bottom, I lost some food because the area for milk, juice, eggs, butter and those things in the middle stopped cooling. I called Home Shield and brought my account up to date, and I also asked to be transferred to a hardship line, which Home Shield did have because I spoke to someone on my situation financially. It was a one- time waive. The person I spoke with said they would do a one-time waive for my initial service fee. I didn't have the money but I was constantly losing food because the refrigerator wasn't cooling, so I explained my situation of hardship in that initial phone call, being transferred from the service department to the hardship department.
The contractor who came out was a professional gentleman. He took a look at what was going on and I explained to him what was going on. He didn't have the part on his truck so he said that the part had to be ordered and it would be like n overnight process and he will be back the next day, which he came back at a suitable time and in the time frame that he said he would be back. He repaired the cause of the problem efficiently and effectively. The day that the service order was entered, I had to call Suffolk appliance and give them information on the serial number inside the refrigerator. They needed that so they would have known how to get parts at the beginning. From that point, the rep said to me that someone would be out within 24 hours.

I put in a claim with AHS regarding the AC on Saturday night. The contractor called me to schedule it on Monday and then came out Tuesday. He thought that there's a leak. He put in four pounds of coolant and he put in the dye. Then he's gonna come back and check in the evening to see if there's a leak. He was gonna come back Friday was the arrangement. ‘Cause I've got his number. I texted him on Saturday, “Can you let me know what's going on?” But he had a family emergency and had to go to California. He had just told me, “As soon as I am back, I'll take care of it. I'll get in touch with you.” This guy's been great.
Right when we first moved in, there was a leaking gasket, one of the tubs. A plumber came out and immediately fixed it. It was a quick, easy thing. The other claim that we did with AHS was there was no air conditioning coming through the master bedroom into the bathroom. A company came out. They were supposed to fix the ductwork. They left the light on in the attic, which I can't access. That company was not exactly the most helpful.
They also had originally scheduled it and then screwed up the date. They didn't bother to show up the first time that I had to deal with stuff. I had to wait an extra 10 days to even get them to come out for it because they forgot to put me on the text schedule after the office scheduled it. Because it was a warranty, I was not a priority. If it's 115 in Vegas, and you're gonna try to tell me that I'm gonna have to wait 10 days for somebody to come out to look at my air conditioner, that thing doesn't work. AHS has done well with what they cover with what the prices are. However, they could really do better in getting more quality people to come out. It's been a cluster with the companies that American Home Shield gets.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

He was able to clean all that up. While he was here, he cleaned out the filter on the dishwasher too so that everything was gonna run well after he left. We weren't going to have additional problems to have to call him out for later. He gave us some pointers on some general care of it so that it would last longer.

When submitting a claim to American Home Shield, I’ve done call-ins and sometimes, you’re on hold forever. I wanted to call to see what the status of the refrigerator was. I called their purchase department and the recorded answer I got was that my hold time would be about an hour and a half. I held for 20 minutes and gave up. The new service calls, either way, seem to work fairly well and the technicians have been good.
I’ve been with AHS for three years and it has just been this one refrigerator issue. I was supposed to get a replacement refrigerator, and I've never been told where, when, how, or why. It’s been a month now. There is a lack of communication. I sent an email off again today to my personal contact. Part of the problem may be that it's not at the house I own. It’s the tenants’ house. The woman that was assigned as our account rep on that, Kristin, didn't seem to have read the emails correctly. But that's a one-time deal. Overall, I've been very happy with American Home Shield and if I was asked a month ago, I have no problem recommending them to people buying and selling houses. Ignoring this refrigerator, my experience with AHS has been a fast response to my service calls and a resolution that met my total approval.

It has been two and a half weeks since we submitted a claim with AHS for our washing machine that went down on us and it is still not fixed yet. The company that they sent out from Vidor, Texas is like a one-man-show. He came out and diagnosed it. He said the lower unit would need to be replaced on it and that he would order the parts. I called him last week to find out what the status was but his voicemail said that there was some kind of a family medical crisis and he was out of the office. My wife called again this morning and she's going to call American Home Shield to see if they could get somebody else to come out to finish this.
Other than that, I haven't had any problem with the submission of claims and the process has gone pretty seamlessly with AHS. We got some good responses, too. We had somebody rekey the house a few days before the whole washing machine event and the person that AHS sent out was great and very personable. He knocked everything out in one-tenth of the time it would have taken me to do it myself. My experience with AHS has been favorable overall and they hit a 10 out of 10 on the first claim we filed for the rekeying. And I don't know if I can blame them for this situation with this particular appliance repair company that looks like a one-man-shop to me, but they should contact somebody else to take over for him if he's not able to get to his clients when he's in the middle of something.

The claim for the washer was a pain. I sent a photocopy of the receipt and I'm waiting for the check to come. My washer won’t come for another week because of the stupid virus. It will be two months to the day that I called to American Home Shield that I've been without a washer. The guy from Sears that came the first day said the washer was so old they weren't gonna find the part. I called someone at American Home Shield and told them that's what the guy said but they had to take almost a month to decide that they couldn't find the part. They took another two weeks to find the part that wasn't there. That’s kind of foolish. They were told the part is not available because the machine’s 13 years old and they don't even make it anymore. I kept calling and calling. The girl from American Home Shield said that Sears sent it. When I called, they said that Sears told them that I told them to quit looking. There was a wiring problem and it was really easy to make the claim. Since it was all automated, I didn't get to ask questions about the process. I knew there'd be a deductible. But I didn't know that that was what that was when they asked, "Do you wanna pay $100 now?" So I paid the $100 to make the appointment. But I didn't understand. It wasn't explained at all that that was the deductible. I was still unsure if I was still gonna get another bill. So it should have been explained a little bit better. But other than that, everything worked out fine.
The contractor was great. He knew exactly what the problem was. Part of my problem was when I bought the house two and a half years ago, the underwriters insisted that these GFCIs be put in. They weren't there originally. So whoever installed them did it incorrectly, and he was able to fix that problem. He did some diagnosing and then found the root of the problem wasn't exactly where I thought it was. So he was able to trace it back to find where the problem was and fix both of the problems to fix the whole problem. He was very nice and very professional. He showed up on time. I was very excited to have my electricity working. It's better than before.

I didn't realize that I had a rekey service as part of my policy with American Home Shield until I was looking at the renewal. I moved in in March of 2019 and I never had the house rekeyed. I thought it would be good to get it done. It was a little bit late in the process but the guy did a good job. For the most part, I've had a good experience with American Home Shield. However, it hasn't always been a consistent experience. Sometimes it's good but other times, I feel like I have my home warranty but I have to go take care of the issue myself anyway because the folks that were sent out didn't do a great job.
If there was anything to improve, it would be on the screening of the folks that American Home Shield is contracting with. I've had a couple of things where the folks that they sent out didn't seem to be very qualified and didn't do a good job. One of them had the potential to cause more damage to my property. That did not go well. I had to end up getting people out there and taking care of the expense myself.
When I had my last tuneup or my air conditioning, I don't even know if the person that came to do the tuneup was 16. His mom had to drive him and she was sitting out in the car while he came in to do the air conditioning tuneup. I was trying to not be ageist and think he's too young to know what he's doing. He seemed to know what he was doing but it was just sort of a little bit odd that the person that was doing the check on my units was so young, by himself, and his mom was waiting for him in the car out in the street.
I scheduled the heating and cooling tuneups that they offered and I got a confirmation that they scheduled it for Thursday. That doesn't work for me. I sent a text message but I haven't heard back from the company. I need to call them to tell them I can't do tomorrow. It would be nice if they didn't just let the companies to schedule on their own. They should always have to contact the owner to make sure that the time that they are scheduling is gonna work. Otherwise, it just ends up in more work.

Both of my toilets were not flushing properly. The guy from All Hours Emergency Plumber came and did a few adjustments on them and was able to get them to flush. He was good and very nice and professional. He was funny. I felt bad because while he was here, I had noticed some bubbles under my sink in the kitchen, so I had pulled everything out. There was nothing leaking. So I said, "Okay. Can you maybe just check this?" While he had his face under there, I had the sink stuffed up because I was soaking something. So I pulled the plug out and then it burst the pipe because they came loose. The poor guy got a face full of water. But he handled it very well. He tightened everything back up and said, "No big deal." He also showed me what to do if it comes loose. He was really good-natured.
He said I probably need to buy a new toilet because the one in one of the bathrooms is really old. He left me a business card just in case, so that I could get some quotes from him if I feel the need to go ahead with that. I love American Home Shield. I just bought this place two years ago and the previous owner had the warranty on everything. So I've continued with it. This is only the second time I've had to use it, but I'm really grateful that I have it because I do know repairs can get quite costly. I'm happy with the service. They always call back within 24 hours and get somebody scheduled. So far, everything's been great.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

American Home Shield does a good job. They contact somebody pretty quickly. I called one day and the next day, somebody was out there. It went good with Millennial HVAC. The AC wasn't cooling and the guy that came out was a fantastic guy. He did a good job and had a good personality.
Good afternoon Courtney,

There was something in the panel and our wiring was not working properly. It kept switching off causing the front of my house to not have any power. I went on American Home Shield's website and paid the $75. I scheduled the service on a Saturday at about 11 o'clock. I got the confirmation that the contractor, #1 R & R Electrical Allstar, was gonna contact me but they didn't. Since the phone number was provided, I called to see if they were gonna come out. But I didn't hear from them. They called me Monday requesting to schedule an appointment and I called them back. They then scheduled the visit for Wednesday and their tech came out that day.
The R & R representative that I spoke with on the phone wasn't very nice. She called me. I work in a call center so I'm limited in the time. I called her back and I told her, “I can’t be on the phone for long because I handle calls myself. If you can email me, that would be best to schedule it.” She said she couldn't do that. She was very short and abrupt. She needed to speak to me so she ended up calling me while I was on the phone with a customer. I happened to get a little moment off the phone and we did the scheduling. The technician, on the other hand, was wonderful and was very pleasant. He told me what he was gonna do. He said it wasn't a big issue and got it fixed. He resolved everything in a fast and efficient manner. Everything has been working great.

I had a breaker that was tripping. Home Shield responded and took care of what they needed. It went smoothly. In addition, the contractor was professional. They responded and replaced a couple of bad outlets in the living room. They worked safely. Everything was taken care of and has been working.
