It's been great with American Home Shield. When I call in a claim, it's easy and the reps are courteous and friendly. A technician came out for a plumbing issue and he was super nice. They were able to fix it.
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

The guys from AC Rescue were very nice. They came and they let me know right off that the issue I had wasn't covered under warranty. They knew what the problem was, and they went ahead and fixed it. The blade was rusted. They said it would take five minutes to just get it out and clean it and put it back. That resolved the problem. They were very gracious, very nice, very friendly and professional. They walked me through what they were doing. I stood out there with them, but I stood far away. They wore masks the whole time and took precautions. I was very grateful for that. I have not had any problems at all with American Home Shield. This is our second year to have them and submitting a claim has been very easy. I wasn't sure what to expect or what to do, but I went online and logged into the account and they walked me through it. It was very good. I've told people who I use.

I like the man from Prestige Plumbing. He's done a real good job. We had a valve problem in the bathroom and a stoppage in the house. He fixed both of them. He put some drain stuff in there then snaked it. I love American Home Shield. In fact, we used them so much that we didn't think they'll renew us this year. I tell everybody about them. For $50 a month, you cannot beat it. I just wish they had a better way to get in contact with. I had to wait hours when I talked to somebody. I really liked it when I could call in then they'd call me back. I didn't have to wait. I called and left a phone number then somebody called me back and asked me what was wrong.

When the guy came out and did the plumbing, he noticed that our furnace was leaking. All my stuff in the garage from the furnace was wet. He had to clean out a tube. It blew out the sides of our house. He checked our air conditioning running without it. We needed Freon, so he put it in. He also showed us how to get that tube cleaned out so now we know and we can do it. So far, everything's been functioning fine. Somebody also came out to check my dishwasher and my freezer. He ordered parts for both of them. We're waiting on parts to come in now. Overall, American Home Shield has been good. They got right on it and got people out there for me. Everything was good on their end.

The first time he came out, he fixed it and it worked good for about an hour and a half. Then, I called back and he said I’d have to call American Home Shield back. So, I did and they immediately said there'd be problem. We issued another order to have them look and find out what happened. So, the tech came back and fixed it really well the second time. He had to go get the part and it caused the air conditioner to work fine. As for the furnace that didn't come on, it turned out that the thermostat was bad too and it burned everything up. All in all, everything was handled very well.
Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your service request. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.

It was a good experience with American Home Shield. I went online, put in a call for service for the AC, and had a very quick response from Home Shield. They gave me the name of the company that would be contacting and taking care of my issue. The contractor was very good and the repair went well. He did everything in one day. The only thing I’m concerned about, and it may be norm, is when the compressor or the air conditioner kicks in, it’s like it's a big thump. I’m normally hearing a lot of that. I don’t know if I need to call the company back or if that's normal. Otherwise, it's cooling.

When I tried to call to make the appointment, American Home Shield took me through a whole skedaddle of people. They texted me and told me to call this time for that. Then when I did it, I couldn't reach anybody. That irritated me a lot. It shouldn't have been that way. Then, they couldn't find my account. A little better and more communication of everything will make it a lot easier for the customer when they call and say they wanna schedule something and they give number. It should be right there. They couldn't find it at first. I guess I had the wrong telephone number on it. I had to give them another telephone number then they found it. The guy made the appointment but it took me three days to reach them then I kept getting with the automated line.
So far, American Home Shield has been good except for that little incident of me trying to make the appointment. Everything went cool after that. The experience was very good. The guy came in and explained what he was gonna do. He told me possibly about how long it was gonna take. I showed him the area and he went down there and did what he had to do. When he got ready to leave, he said, "All done. Have a nice day," and he left.

We had a leak in our downstairs bathroom. Normally, when we think of a leak, it's plumbing, that's why we requested a plumber to come out. The gentleman was very nice when he presented. I showed him exactly where the leak was and the water. He touched the ceiling and identified that it was wet so he cut a hole in it in order to look at the piping, and when he looked at the piping, he saw that it was actually leaking from a pipe going to the air conditioner. So at that point, he said, because it's not a water pipe, and it's related to the air conditioning, he has to transfer it over to the air conditioning company. The plumbing guy was very nice.
The air conditioning company, Jet, which we have been using through American Home Shield for quite some time, was absolutely terrible and awful. They came out and confirmed that it was leaking from the air conditioning and the piping needed to be replaced. It was on a Friday and they told us that they were gonna come out on Monday to replace it around nine o'clock in the morning. Come Monday, around 10:30, I said to my husband that they didn't come yet so we called them and they said they would not go because insurance denied the claim. We had to get a different air conditioning company to come and fix it because our whole downstairs bathroom is flooding and it's wet. It's just ridiculous.
The air conditioning company that we found that we are paying out of pocket is coming tomorrow to fix it. With their assessment, they identified that the reason it’s leaking is that the coils to the air conditioning unit on the inside and the outside are corroding and rusting, which has caused this issue. Jet had failed to identify that on their multiple visits out and I wonder why AHS is still using them. Then this air conditioning company that we're utilizing also said that both units need to be replaced, so we're going to be submitting that documentation to AHS for a claim that it would be replaced, ‘cause that’s the reason we’re having this leaking.

There was a problem with the water heater. I submitted a claim with AHS and it was quick and easy. Scheduling an appointment was easy as well. Once I got the appointment, I got a call from the company that I was allotted to, which I also got pretty soon. They gave me a reminder call that the technician was going to be here and when he came out, he realized what the issue was as soon as I told him what was going on. So he quickly went and fixed it. It hardly took 15 minutes for him and so far, I don't see any issues after the repair. Overall, I had a very good experience with AHS.

High Priority was very efficient and everything went very well. The technicians explained what needed to be done and they fixed the plumbing issue. They came back because the exterior hose was loose in the wall. Both of the technicians that were here had masks on and wore coverings on their shoes to protect my home but they stayed six feet away from me. This is the first time I've used American Home Shield and I'm happy with it so far.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

American Home Shield was very responsive. They answered both my tickets over the weekend and their contractor came out the next Tuesday. When their contractor called Watertight Pool & Spa came out the first time, my main pump needed an O-ring. The second time, my booster pump needed a seal. Both times, they fixed my issue and everything was fine. Had I made one call though for both the main pump and my booster pump, Watertight would have been able to come and fix both the issues and I would only have to pay the $125 deductible once. Instead, I paid twice as Watertight told me that the other pump was not on his work order and so he couldn't fix it.
The same thing happened with my claim for my air conditioning unit and AHS's techs came out when my drip line was blocked. The contractor said that he couldn't look at my work order. I understand why Home Shield does that to make a profit and so, they don't assume that there are two pumps or air conditioning units that need to be attended to. It is very little effort though for the contractor doing the work but for a homeowner like me, paying $125 each time a contractor is really difficult.
From now on, when I call anything, I'll tell AHS that something is happening with both my units so I only have to pay $125 once. Other than that, AHS has been fantastic. Previously I had Home Warranty of American and they were the worst. I wanted to run away screaming. They lied to me and I couldn't talk to a supervisor. Two weeks after we moved in, our hot water unit went out and at first, HWA denied the claim. I had to show them the inspection report to say that when we bought the house, it was working. After we got that ,they told me that they were gonna replace the unit with the same kind. It was a Rinnai which is a hot water tankless system that was very expensive. When the time came ot purchase the replacement, HWA said they were not gonna purchase the same unit. Instead, they were gonna give me a cheaper one. They gave me a buyout of $960 and I ended up paying $1300 to get the water heating unit installed. I had to call, yell, scream and call some more. I'll never go with them again. In contrast, AHS sends out alerts and I get email correspondence from them.

I live in Texas and it's hot here. When we started using the AC at the beginning of the spring, we noticed there was a problem. This is the second year that we've called American Home Shield about the air conditioning unit. So the first year, the contractor came out and they said everything was functioning fine. That was early September in 2019. By end of the year, it starts to get cooler sometimes. Here in Texas it's still hot. But we just went with the fans. Come to 2020, it's hot. So we called them out and A/C Rescue came out. They took a look at it and they said we needed some things. We had three more visits. The AC started working. They replaced the compressor and some other stuff. It started working. But we still having the same problem. We have two AC units. The one downstairs kept triggering the circuit breaker.
Two different folks serviced us. But the last folk to come out here and serviced us was A/C Rescue. We were having the circuit tripped and they said that it needed a few things. The guy showed to my husband what was going on. This situation ran my electrical bill extremely high the entire summer. Our bill was $400 or more. So it definitely needs to be fixed.
When you submit a claim, you call and wait. They put you on hold and then you go through trying to explain the situation. But they're only interested in the issue currently at hand. They don't understand that this is the same issue that we've been calling them out for the entire summer. It's never been fixed and that was what we explained to them. They patched it up and replaced things. I asked them why don't they put in a new unit? Since the thing is not working. No matter what they do. It's running up my bill. But they said they gotta go through these steps. That was fine. But when you come out here six to seven times and I gotta pay a $75 fee every time you come out here, that gets to be a little bit annoying. American Home Shield had the audacity to send me a bill for $75 and they haven't fixed it from the last time they came out here.
Good afternoon Terrance,
On behalf of American Home Shield, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience we caused you and your family. Thank you for the time that you did trust us to take care of your systems and appliances in your home. We will definitely be using your review to make our services better.

The first time that the technician from Premiere came out, he fixed the AC unit. Then as soon as he was leaving, he saw that there was a leak, which was why I was losing my Freon. So, I had to call and make another appointment with American Home Shield because he was done with that visit. He came out with the Freon and I had to pay for it again because it had leaked out again, which I was a little upset about. But that wasn't their fault. American Home Shield didn't charge me for the visit but they should have covered the Freon and they didn’t.
When the technician came, he rang the bell and said he would be outside. He didn’t have to come in. He called me just before he left and said everything was fixed. I've had no problems since and it’s been working fine. They were very reliable. The contractor that we had the year before was horrendous. You couldn't get a hold of them. They never answered the phone and wouldn’t return your calls. That summer last year, I was without air conditioning for almost two months. So, I was glad when AHS changed to this particular company because they were very good.
The year before, AHS was hard to get ahold of. This time, it was easier and they took care of everything. I had to go through all these companies that were in India and wherever they were, and I never got to talk directly to anybody here. This time with getting Premier, I got directly connected to American Home Shield right here and I was happy about that. I don't wanna be going to these other people. They don't understand me and they don't know what I'm talking about. Also, you don't get the same person the next time you call back. There are always these numbers that they revert you to. So, I'm not happy when they do that. It was a little bit better set-up this time. I have recommended American Home Shield to some of my coworkers and they've purchased it. AHS is a little pricey but it is what it is.

We were having a leaky pipe in our bathroom and in our kitchen. Ferguson and Sons came and they did a great job. But Home Shield has a lot of stuff they could do better. They have a lot of policies and their prices have gotten so high. It's kinda hard to justify keeping them. We were paying Home Shield around $63 a month but now we're paying $75 a month for a service call. So we may have been much better served by just putting that $63 a month in a savings account.
I understand the code requirements are what they are, but a lot of times, Home Shield vendors aren't really transparent, like on what happened with our water heater and with an air conditioning repair. They were telling us that all these things have to be done and that we have to pay for to bring things up to code before they would fix things. But you can't find what the code says. It doesn't exist like, "Here's what you have to do to put a new water heater in your house." They should be able to point me to a website that says, "This is the standard that you need to meet."
With our water heater, we got a quote to do $1,300 worth of work before they would replace the water heater. Nobody could point you to the code and I couldn't go on the internet and read what needed to be done. I just needed to take that vendor's word for it and pay them or else get bought out of the water heater. The same thing happened with our air conditioner. We ended up taking the payout with the water heater and found a local plumber who put a new water heater in for us for half of the things that needed to be done. There were things that we had to do to bring the water heater up to code, but if Home Shield's gonna put me in a position to pay their vendor a bunch of money, then I need to see where legally I need to do that.
The water pressure coming into our house is too high but they won't cover fixing it. Home Shield also just let problems lump along. Instead, we paid them $75 every couple of years to come replace all the cartridges that the high water pressure has blown out and made our sink start leaking. My only reservation about ditching them altogether is I know that my air conditioner is the old Freon standard and they don't make that Freon anymore. At some point, I'm ultimately gonna have to replace my air conditioner. But I kinda doubt they're gonna do it.
When our air conditioner never cooled our house in the heat of summer, we paid Home Shield 75 to get the company come out. The company comes and said, "That's just as good as it gets." So if something really goes wrong with the air conditioner, maybe they'll help me financially meddle through it. We got Home Shield 22 years ago because we literally could not afford to fix anything that broke. Now, we have a little more wiggle room in our budget than we did 22 years ago.
The Home Shield people are nice people. But we've had some vendor who was supposed to come out who didn't show or call. I started learning to read about the vendors on Yelp because there seems to be a lot of vendors in my area that really get most of their business through Home Shield. My problem went along so many extra days because the vendor just didn't uphold their end of the bargain. But the people who were with Ferguson were nice. If we choose to pay on our own to get our water pressure fixed, we will call them to do it. 22 years ago, Home Shield was a lot more affordable for us and a lot more needed for us. There's a lot of systems that have been replaced in this house by Home Shield. They fully replaced an air conditioner in this house and they replaced the water heater twice. But now, I'm not sure we're getting the use out of it.

No air was blowing from the AC but digitally, the thermostat was on. I called Home Shield and they sent me an email when to expect the contractors out. The only thing is if somebody's AC is out, make it like a rush order. I talked to somebody and they said if I wanted a rush order, I would have to pay out of pocket for that. But the A-1 Quality Care tech was nice. The unit we have is old and they don't make that machine anymore. They had to order a part and they couldn't get it locally. They said it's gonna take 10 business days and they haven't gotten the problem done yet. Our AC hasn't been blowing for the past week and a half. I've called them a few times and he said I'm first on the list and once the part comes in, they would be out here.
The first claim that I put in with Home Shield was for our dryer. We didn't wash clothes for a couple of days after we moved in and when we did and we put the laundry in the dryer, the dryer was broken. We had to hang our clothes around the house and wait for the contractor to come out. They said there was a fire issue in the back for the dryer and Home Shield said they couldn't help me with that. They said that the issue was an existing problem before we got the insurance. But the thing was that we bought the house and the inspectors inspected everything and they would've said our dryer was not working but they didn't say any of that.
I called them twice and asked if I could get another company here. They said if they have another person come in for the same issue, I was gonna have to pay the deductible again. I said it was fine because I thought the first guy was just not wanting to fix the parts. I had a second person come in and said there was no fire. He said something on the bearings was busted. When I talked to Home Shield, they said it was an existing problem. I told them I was not gonna go back and forth with them. I thought they were gonna take care of this, being that it's just some bearings. I told them I was not trying to get a new dryer out of them. I just want them to fix it. We're hanging our clothes all around the house. They said they would see what they can do and I never heard back from them. We ended up buying a used dryer and I didn't call back.
We got the house knowing that it was old and a lot of the stuff is outdated so I told my Realtor if the previous owners can pay for one year of home insurance, we would get the house. Then, we would start paying for the home insurance after the year is up. The previous homeowners said yes and they went with Home Shield. When we go and get insurance next year, I don't know if I'm gonna go with Home Shield because that was kind of like a bad start.

Home Shield's whole process sucks. It took me six calls to get a guy who knew what he was doing. I had six technicians come out. 3 Rivers Heating and Air came and fixed my unit. They're the smartest one out all of them. However, I'm still waiting for my refund for my deposit. I've been waiting for well over a month now since I talked to the supervisor. Other than that, my unit is now better than what it was.

Seriously disappointed in lack of cust. svc. I've been a customer of American Home Sheild for years & have never had such a bad experience! We have had repair techs out to "fix" our fridge at least 6 different times thus far & fridge is still broken (process started in June 2020 & it's now Oct. 2020). Each time we call AHS, we wait on the phone 1-2 hrs only to reach a rep who can't speak English well & know zero about our appliance or its requirements.
You'd think as long as AHS has been in business, they would have more knowledgable employees. Our fridge apparently can only be serviced by SEARS, but we have to remind AHS about this each time we call. Then they ignore us & assign us some random contractor... So we have to call back, wait 1-2hrs, only to reiterated the SEARS requirement. We've asked to speak to managers, which is denied. We've even been lied to by a phone rep, who told my husband she had spoken to me earlier that day, which never occurred. We're promised call-backs, which never occur. And our fridge is STILL broken after 4mos.
Are you still in need of assistance?

All this company wants is your money. We put in a service request about our refrigerator on July 28, 2020. They sent someone out. Of course we had to pay an additional fee. They sent out universal 1 repair and their service person stated what was wrong and would order the parts and replace when parts arrive. Today’s date is October 5, 2020 and still no parts, no calls, NOTHING. I have called AHS and they gave me an ear full of crap and said that I should call the company that is Sergio the fridge.
The company that is supposed to fix the fridge had an attitude with me because ahs told me to call them about the parts and told me that the parts are on back order and they don’t know when the parts are coming in. Also they stated that ahs has a parts department and ahs orders all parts. To this day nothing has happened. AHS tried to offer me a buyout $300 and I’d have to show proof that I brought a brand new fridge and not from a scratch and dent place and the brand new fridge must come with a warranty. Really!!! So 2 months without a fridge is ok to this company. Like I said all they want is your money. DO NOT USE AMERICAN HOME SHEILD. They will take your money and run.

The customer service at AHS usually keeps on hold for 40 minutes. The other day, my property manager tried calling AHS and the call was on hold for 40 minutes every time. As a property manager, he has 10 different properties so he cannot wait for 40 minutes on one call. Also, submitting a claim is easy but the service time varies. I have two homes and two policies. There was an issue with the washer in the rental and there was a wait time of 8 to 10 days. Then, I had a request for the AC in my home and it took them eight days. They fixed the issue but we were without AC and we got a portable AC ourselves for $300. But recently, we had another AC claim and it was very quick. The AC water drain was not draining properly and the unit itself was working hard. The tech from Air Doctor came out and he knew what exactly the problem was. He helped us in no time. There was some cleaning effort required and he fixed it.

We only live in the house part-time right now and he was able to accommodate our schedule and get all the parts in before we had to go back to California. So it worked out really well. It was freezing on the top of the refrigerator, but it wasn't cooling at the bottom, I lost some food because the area for milk, juice, eggs, butter and those things in the middle stopped cooling. I called Home Shield and brought my account up to date, and I also asked to be transferred to a hardship line, which Home Shield did have because I spoke to someone on my situation financially. It was a one- time waive. The person I spoke with said they would do a one-time waive for my initial service fee. I didn't have the money but I was constantly losing food because the refrigerator wasn't cooling, so I explained my situation of hardship in that initial phone call, being transferred from the service department to the hardship department.
The contractor who came out was a professional gentleman. He took a look at what was going on and I explained to him what was going on. He didn't have the part on his truck so he said that the part had to be ordered and it would be like n overnight process and he will be back the next day, which he came back at a suitable time and in the time frame that he said he would be back. He repaired the cause of the problem efficiently and effectively. The day that the service order was entered, I had to call Suffolk appliance and give them information on the serial number inside the refrigerator. They needed that so they would have known how to get parts at the beginning. From that point, the rep said to me that someone would be out within 24 hours.

We've had the guy from Astro Appliance come out twice, and now we’re requesting him to come out a third time because the issue hasn’t been resolved. The issue is that the fridge was not cooling properly, and there's some sort of issue with the defrost cycle where we get a lot of ice accumulation in the refrigerator instead of the freezer. They've come out a couple of times and checked the computer and servicing different components, but we're still seeing the problem.
I would like to see American Home Shield have a little bit more oversight with the folks they contract with. Astro Appliance is supposed to contact us probably within 24 to 48 hours of us requesting service. So, if we request service on Sunday, we expect to get a call on Monday. It's Wednesday and I've heard nothing from them. That's been consistent across all the service call. That’s been several days until I finally have to call them to get an appointment. Other than that, the warranty is very good to have. American Home Shield helped us when our air conditioner died on us in August, in the hottest part of the summer. They were able to get someone out the next day to service the equipment and get us back going again. So, it's a good investment to have and we plan to keep it, but a review of who their partners are would be a good idea.
Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs. Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

Our main refrigerator started making loud noises. We thought something was wrong with the motor, so we called. But when Ultimate Appliance Repair came out and checked it, just as we expected, it wasn't making the noise anymore so there was nothing they could do other than leave the work order open. The guy was on time, professional, clean, honest, and to the point. He kept us informed as to when he was gonna be coming by. He explained everything he did so it was easy to understand. We felt comfortable with him.

American Home Shield gave such excellent services for me in the past because I've been a client for years. I've always loved them and I tell every person I know to go and join them. But the experience has changed. I reported that my two dryers are broken and I need two dryers. The contractor came and repaired one. He was excellent. They let me know that they couldn’t repair the second one. They'd replace it and that's when the nightmare started because nothing is happening.
When I called American Home Shield, it was about 20 minutes to speak to somebody. I run a medical clinic with my staff and my staff hasn't got time to sit for a hour to wait to speak to somebody. Eventually, they said they’re going to replace the dryer because they can't fix it. There was a two-hour waiting list to speak to somebody. Then I spoke to someone who told me they'd send an e-mail right away. We never received that email.
The day before yesterday, I had a day off and thought, “Let me tackle it myself.” I was for nearly an hour on the phone to try and speak to one of their people. I said I was very upset and the next moment after I said it, the rep hang up on me right away. Nobody hangs up on a person on professional levels. That was the worst experience. If one of my staff in all my clinics worldwide hangs up on a client, they will be fired instantly. I started again and waited another 30, 40 minutes to speak to somebody and I explained to her. She was kind and said, “They send you two emails.” I said, “We received no emails. Not at all.” I told her to use my second email address. She took that down and said, “We’ll send it out the next day.”
That was Tuesday and today is Friday. That email hasn't come through. I'm not going to sit for another hour on the phone. To get through to their service is horrible. They keep on to saying it's because of COVID. What has COVID got to do with waiting for two hours on service? They are going to lose every day business and I'll make sure of that ‘cause I'm very angry. I'm going to report it to the Better Business Bureau and put it up on social media ‘cause that's really horrible service.

I did a few claims with American Home Shield. The air conditioner claim was fine. Then I had the plumbing one which was okay, too. The guy fixed the leak. The issue was the one with my ceiling fan. My ceiling fan stopped working. So, the electrician came in and took it down. He put his little testers up there and he said, “Yup, it's dead. They're probably gonna replace it.” He said that he has to put a different box that was up there. He also said, “So, that's a different thing. But I'll do my report, and you'll probably hear from them next week.”
I got an email from American Home Shield, and they said that I needed to call because there was an issue with my claim. Finally, I called and I talked to one person after being on hold and disconnected three times. That's been an issue. I was about to start calling again today because yesterday I couldn't get through. I was told that the first thing I had to do was pay $275 because the electrician needed to put a new box up there. The guy said, “Then we'll replace your fan”. I said, “Okay. I have the make and model number and everything of my fan. Can you tell me what fan they're gonna replace it with?” He said that after I'd pay the $275, then they'll tell you. I said, “No, no. I need to know if you're gonna replace it with the same fan.”
The fan that I have is a Minka-Aire fan, and it was $339. He said, “Oh, it'll be the same specs, different brand.” I asked what he meant by that. I said, “So, first of all, I paid $100 for the service call. Now, I have to pay 275. And now you're gonna give me any kind of fan to go up there.” It was a back and forth with him. Then I said, “Well, what about the cash out option?” Maybe I'll just do that, and then I'll just get somebody else to help me fix it.
In the meantime, I looked up my fan. I called the manufacturer and they said it's probably just the sensor, and the sensor has to be reset. He said, “I’ll walk you through resetting the sensor.” I can't do that because the electrician that came out totally disconnected it from the power. Now, it's not gonna connect to the power. I called again to speak to someone in the cash out department with a lady named Tiffany who was just transferred there. I explained everything to her. She came back with a number of $50. That is what they're gonna replace my $335 fan with after I already paid 100. I have to pay another $275, then they're gonna give me a $50 fan. I’m not happy at all. I get that it might not be the same exact model. But I even went back, called the electrician back and forth and he said, “Yeah, they're not gonna give you the same kind of fan.”
I have to get somebody else and I gotta pay another person to come and hook my fan back up to the electric. Then I'm gonna call the vendor and have them reset. If it's just that the sensor needed to be reset, then I'm out 100 bucks for calling American Home Shield because I thought that they would research the problem. The guy they sent didn't even go into the wall to see if maybe the light switch was the reason. He just took it down, put his tester, and said, “Nope, she's dead.”
When I called about the fan, I asked, “Do these fans just die like that?” They said they don't and they also have a lifetime warranty. So, I went to the manufacturer of that fan. I called the electrician back and said, “Yeah, pretty much, that's all they're gonna give you is a $50 fan.” So, even the cash out was $50. Tiffany was so sweet but she said, “I just got transferred here in the department so I can't answer all of your questions.” She put me on hold, then she called me back and said she called the electrician and he said it will be a $50 fan. But when I called him, he acted like he didn't talk to her. He said, “No, I wouldn't tell them that.”
I'm so fed up. I have spent almost $500, because then last year, I had Home Shield and I had an issue with my icemaker. They sent somebody out. They brought a new icemaker in. Then I cancelled my contract because I had some billing issues. Then I kept getting all these comeback letters with offers. So, I gave them a second try. The icemaker went again. I called and they sent somebody out. Two weeks after he was gone, it stops making ice then starts making ice. He was here August 5th and I called like this third week in September. They said, “Nope, you gotta pay another $100.” I said, “That's gonna be $300. Can you make an exception?” They said I was past my 30 days. So, it didn't make ice for the entire beginning of October. It just started making ice again two days ago. It's not normal for it not to make ice for three weeks. Then all of a sudden, it makes ice, and then it stops. That’s what I’m experiencing.
I also bought the electronics plan, and that was fine. They fixed my TV and brought it back. I paid that in full. That was 200 something. Then I paid 100 for the air conditioner, 100 for the plumbing, 100 for the refrigerator and 100 for the fan. That's 400 just for that. I'm over it. I was gonna try back again to see what I could get for cash out. It's been so stressful.
The guy with the air conditioner was awesome. It was like 80 degrees, and the air conditioner stopped putting out cold air, and it was so hot in here. He came when he was supposed to come. He was very professional. He figured out the problem, had the part in his truck and fixed it right then and there. The home warranty is great for big stuff like that. But I paid $100 for this guy to come and stop the leak. He put a little teeny piece of pipe on. I’ve had three people told me they could’ve done it for a quarter of that price. All it needed was a little extender on there. It's those little things that you put out that money, and it's really a teeny job. I'm happy with the air conditioner service, but with the other four services, I'm not. Once I get it straightened out, I'm probably gonna cancel and not have a home warranty. I’m gonna take that money that I spend every month and save it for an emergency fund.

My recent experience with American Home Shield was very good. I had three claims. One was for the garage door opener and the tech they sent came right away and fixed it. The other one was for my stovetop and Home Shield did their part and approved the replacement. The claim is in GE's hands not but so far, I haven't received any confirmation when they will replace my unit.
So far, submitting claims to AHS has been very simple. I just call and they assign a company to come. With my stovetop claim, GE arrived and the tech said that my unit needed a valve which he cannot replace as that item has been discontinued. He then gave a report to American Home Shield. Overall, AHS is a very good company.

My refrigerator was leaking and I liked that I was able to submit the claim online. I didn't necessarily have to talk to a representative. But the first time that the contractor was supposed to come out, they never came or left a voicemail. American Home Shield already took out the money so I had to call them to see what happened. I didn't like that part of it. I wish that communication was there with them not coming out. But then my husband was there at the time Sears came and he said they guy was very professional. My husband appreciated his assistance in getting the issue resolved. We were satisfied.

I had a fire inside the range. Then the heating element on top was also having an issue. We called American Home Shield to submit a claim. The contractor couldn't replace the lamp and also, the replacement parts were not available for the range. American Home Shield had told the contractor that they would replace the range. I didn't have to wait too long for American Home Shield to get back to me after he had submitted his recommendation. I just used my microwave until they determined what they were gonna do. American Home Shield told me that they were gonna reimburse $443 for the new range. So I have picked out a range and the new range is in my home right now. I am completely satisfied with American Home Shield. I've had to call in for other issues before and normally, they get right back with me. It’s with the contractors that we normally have to wait on.

American Home Shield has been very responsive when I needed them. The contractors have always been real good about coming in a timely manner. Atchley Air was really good. I had called American Home Shield to put in a claim and then literally, the next call I had was from them. Coordinating a time to come was good. Luckily, I had smelt the gas leak. and they pretty much knew what the problem was. I was really happy that it was prompt. But it took a little bit longer to get the part, but they were able to finish it the same day and I was thankful for that.
The smell was coming from the furnace before it's the furnace season, and it wouldn't have been maybe so fast. But they were there. They also did tests. When one of the tests came back, there was still a leak from the valve. So he called a senior supervisor out to make sure that he had replaced the part and that there was no leakage. There is no gas leak now and I feel confident when we turn on the furnace and the gas and we're not gonna have that issue. The service company itself tried to sign me up three times for their yearly thing. THE AC and the heater just got serviced so I didn't need that but the guy was a little pushy. But overall, American Home Shield is gonna take care of you. You just have to not be afraid of the deductible.

American Home Shield is a great purchase. I've had it for several years now and we've had to use it a few times. It definitely helps you out when you have something major happen to where you're not having to shell out $500, $600 which is what it would have cost me had I done it on my own. It's definitely an investment that's well worth it. The refrigerator was not cooling at all so I called them. They got somebody out pretty quick. The people that came out, Busy Bee, were extremely nice and answered all my questions. They gave me a timeline as far as how long they felt it would take to get it repaired. It pretty much stayed within that timeline, maybe a little bit less. Then they came back out, got it fixed, and got me up and running again.

People feel comfortable when they have insurance and think that they will help. That's what the insurance is for. But I've been with AHS a lot and they should trust me more than anybody else. For instance, my furnace broke and they just offered me a $500 check. But 500 is nothing and is the cost of just one piece, not the whole furnace work. That kind of made me look for a different insurance company. I'm paying $100 every month, so it comes to $1,200 a year, and I barely use it. Since we don't have a handyman, having AHS is better than nothing. But I'm not satisfied with them.
I had so many works with AHS and most of their techs leave the work unfinished. They're not professional when it comes to cleaning up and one of the mess they left is still open. They were supposed to put a patch back in but they said it was not their job. Now, I have to pay for the patch. Some of the contractors are also lazy to open the right place. The only tech I liked was Max and he was the last one who came out for a plumbing issue. He was very nice and on time. at another time, I had an electricity problem in my garage and when the techs came out, they couldn't go to the attic. It was hard and they just made an excuse. They said it was not the right thing and not legal. But I told them that I bought this house the same way. All in all, you're lucky if you get a good worker. But most of the time, they're not good and not honest.

Then those parts couldn't fix the problem and they had to order more parts. We were without a dishwasher for a while. I wish American Home Shield could expand their service providers instead of just going to Advanced Appliance all the time and sending those guys over. But once I spoke with someone, they were very thorough over at Home Shield and asked me if I had any other issues that were electrical in nature, and even explained what that would constitute. So, I was able to put in more than one claim on the same electrical ticket so that that saved a bunch. And then, it didn't take long to get someone out to do the repairs. Everything was complete within 72 hours from the time I made the call. The garage door now works when before it does not. I have two accounts with Home Shield and my overall experience with them has been positive.

I've had two companies working with the air conditioner. The first company that came out was horrible. The second company that came out was stellar. The first company was a horrible experience because, given the time we're living in, I insisted that anybody coming to my house to do anything should wear a mask, and the guy had a mask on, but we had to keep reminding him to keep it in place. He revealed to us at a certain point in the service call that he thought that he thinks the virus is a hoax. He was trying to politicize all of this stuff, which was really annoying to me, because I didn't wanna have that conversation.
When he was here, he went up into my attic, looked at the ductwork and fiddled with some dampers. He said there was nothing that can be done about our problem. He said we needed a dual zone heating-cooling system. I asked him for the rough estimate and he said it would be about 15,000. Then he left. So I called back American Home Shield and told them the guy didn't do anything. So they sent out a tech from another company, who was incredibly different. He was well put together. He went into the attic, looked at everything, and then he went outside and looked at the actual air conditioning unit, even though he is a duct specialist and he worked on the air conditioning unit and pumped in some more coolant. The air conditioning unit is working much better now.
He also confirmed that the ductwork is at its maximum capacity and that a dual system would work better. But the price that he quoted me off the top of his head was less than half of what the other guy quoted. So the other guy was scammy. When I called American Home Shield and complained about the first technician, the customer service person said they were gonna send the second person out. They're on their star list. They have like upper tier vendors that they contract with. But why didn't they send the second company in the first place? We've had this on a number of occasions where somebody came out and said they couldn't do anything.
I've also had some good experiences with American Home Shield. When there was a problem with the heater, they replaced it immediately. But most of my experiences, they're like a lot of pushing and shoving. I had a refrigerator that was relatively new, but they replaced the refrigerator only after how many months it went on for. They kept coming out and putting a bandaid on the problem. They were wrapping up stuff with tin foil to try to get the condenser to work properly. We asked them how many times did they have to do that since they've been out here four times. They finally gave in and said they couldn't fix it anymore and they put in the refrigerator.
When we moved in, the dishwasher was a mess and American Home Shield replaced it immediately. So they do well on some things. When the glass on the inside of the oven cracked, they came out and replaced that. Sometimes, it depends on the contractor that they send out. It's annoying that in cases where it's not working, I have to really plead my case. I have spent a lot of time working to get through to them to get resolution but it shouldn't be that difficult. But to be fair, this is the case with many companies today.
There are so many layers of automated phone systems that it's next to impossible to get people on the phone and then when you do, a lot of large companies employ call centers offshore, so sometimes there are language barriers with non-native English speakers. But I'm not trying to be difficult. I taught English for 20 years and I continue to teach at the college level. I have lots of non-native English speakers and I understand the challenges very clearly.
If American Home Shield is going to employ a call center, then they should make sure that those people have the kind of training they need to properly communicate. We've had people that were very difficult to understand. In a couple of cases, my wife has gotten frustrated and just said they would call back. She would call back and try to get somebody else on the line, but at which point, we've wasted a huge amount of time because it always took a chunk of time to get through. But to American Home Shield's credit, they're one of the companies that gives you the callback option, which I deeply appreciate. Rather than having a headphone plugged into my ear or just my phone stuck up to the side of my head. At a certain point into the call, it would say, "If you'd like us to call back, press one," and then you can hang up and they call you back. That's a plus. There are companies that don't have that option and it's frustrating.

However, our experience with AHS has been up and down. When I had a problem with my air condition, they didn't wanna pay any money for it. The AC we had was almost 18 years old and I've been with AHS for a long time. We've already had two new units that we paid for. They didn't give a dime for it. I thought I'd get a lawyer because it makes no sense.
They advertise stuff on TV, "Call American Home Shield. We'll take care of you." But when we got something that's 18 years old, or older than that, they still don't wanna take care of the problem the correct way. The contractors got out here so many times, putting Freon in them. We've had to pay that out of pocket, the majority of it. It just got to a point, we couldn't keep throwing money away in an old unit. Even the AC people who came out here said, "You're just throwing away your money." We had to pay for everything else, the Freon, it was ridiculous.

The only issue I had was in my Chicago Ridge condo. A company was supposed to replace the faucet and change a shutoff valve for the stacked washer-dryer there. But they only did one of the two. They said that the issue with the shutoff valve was the condo association had to shut off the water. I had an issue with humidity in the home and we were trying to figure out its cause. Several people were coming out and I also had mold because of the issue. I had a service done in early August since I had a free coupon from previous use with Ace Heating & Cooling to do a yearly checkup on my system. But the problem with the humidity was still there. I then had an indoor air quality specialist come because I had mold and that person was the one that noticed that my AC wasn't turning off, so I called Ace Heating back out. It turned out that the fan motor was bad in my AC unit. So it was constantly running and pulling in humidity into the house. They replaced my fan motor but within a couple days, the house was hot again and the AC was just blowing hot air.
There was a blown capacitor in the unit, so they had to replace the capacitor the next time that they came back out. I also had them come and put the APCO system to kill mold and things out of my ductwork. I have asthma and with the mold issue in the house, I thought this would be a good addition to my AC unit to prevent any further issues. I had been speaking with them about that and the technician told me about the system and some options. Since then, I haven't had any issue since.
Other than that, it's pretty easy to submit a claim online with AHS. I usually call them as well because I want them to be aware that I'm submitting it, so that I can get them to contact me as soon as possible to schedule from there, since I've been working with them for a bit. For my last claim, the issue that I had was pretty severe with the mold, so during that time, I was giving them a heads up. They told me to give it about an hour afterwards and that they'd call me and get me scheduled. The process was pretty simple but it was difficult to reach American Home Shield's customer service that time. I don't know if that was because of COVID, but my boyfriend also has them and he would be on hold for hours trying to call them. Despite that, as far as the service and the value for what I pay, AHS is great.

American Home Shield's contractor, Installation Services came and tried to diagnose our problem. I was told what they needed to replace. They had come out on a Friday to diagnose and they were out by Monday to put in the replacement part. I was very satisfied with that timeframe. While calling in to American Home Shield's office is awful and I'm hold for over an hour, if contacting them is just done online, everything has been fine. They have been good to us. The warranty has been a money saver. Any time I have an issue, I've called them. They have worked with me whenever I have an air conditioning issue. I've had a lot of plumbing issues as well and AHS has handled all of them. I've referred them to two people who now have their service.

I had a claim to American Home Shield for the thing where you turn your water on in a bathtub. I also had a garbage disposal that was broken and a problem with the sprayer hose in the kitchen sink that sprays the vegetables. I had to wait so long for the parts to come in. But other than that, A Discount Plumbing did an excellent job. The technician was very professional and very knowledgeable about his business. He was also very polite, courteous and he explained to me the situation why they were having a problem getting the part. Once we got the part, he called me right away and came in the next day and hooked it all up. I was very satisfied with the contractor, and I recommend his company for this area. I was well pleased with American Home Shield and I told several of my friends about American Home Shield, and I'm hoping that they decide they will look into doing business with them.

Our sewer had backed up from the sink down. We could still flush the toilets and use the showers. It was just that area from the kitchen sink down. The contractor came out and did the roto-rooter thing and was on his merry way. It’s really easy submitting a claim with AHS. You can either call them and they'll do it, or you can do it online. I've always scheduled my claim by calling them. It's easier. I could get through to somebody right away. If I do it online, it's a waiting process. But if I call them, I get them right then, and they take my claim and send it out to somebody. But they will check. If you have somebody you prefer to use, they're more than cooperative in letting you choose them as long as it's one of their vendor suppliers. They've always been easy to work with. Whoever they have sent has always been good. I've never had an issue with anybody that they selected.

I was getting emails all the time and advertising specials from American Home Shield, so I decided to give it a shot. We had it years ago when we first bought our house, and we let it lapse, but it was outstanding then too. When I had #1 Garage Door come out for a torsion spring, the guy did a good job, but most of it wasn't covered under the warranty. There was one piece that was covered, and then the big part of it was not covered and it was specifically excluded. Still, American Home Shield has been great. We've used them for another claim, the AC that had a lizard that got fried in the circuit panel, and that was the only thing preventing the AC from working.

It wasn't difficult to submit the claim to American Home Shield but it was difficult to get someone to take care of it. The garbage disposal wasn't working at all and when you click the button, there was no sound. AHS sent a service person out and an appliance person, and they didn't know what to do. Then, they sent an electrician out and he didn't know what to do either.
The plumber was the first one to say that it wasn't getting power. He went out to his car and got something and came back in. Whatever he did, it came on. So, he said the power wasn't coming through on one of the wires. AHS then sent the electrical person back out again yesterday. I told him what happened and he did whatever he did. He said it was not getting any power. Then he said that he would let AHS know and now, they’re saying that they don't take care of that particular type of claim. They said that it wasn't wear and tear, but it was. If it was working in the beginning, for four years, then that wire must have worn out. The person I talked to reached out to a supervisor and AHS is going with the findings that the electrician told them.
I am completely dissatisfied with AHS because I haven't had anything fixed and I don't wanna keep paying. The garbage disposal wasn't fixed. I asked about the dishwasher and they sent an appliance person out and that wasn’t fixed. The garage door was going up and down and they sent somebody out for that, and he thought he fixed it. But the next day, the door was doing the same thing. It would go up sometimes and sometimes, it wouldn't. You have to fool with the wire on the floor on the ground to make the door go up. Many people came out for that one thing and I'm tired of calling AHS and different people in and out. Somebody's supposed to come back out about the garage door, so I'm gonna let them come out Wednesday, but after that, I probably won't.
Are you still in need of assistance?

I feel good about the service that AHS provides. I’ve had no major issues. Things went well with the contractor that they sent out. The technician checked everything out and everything was good to go. Putting in the service request though was a little difficult. I got an email reminding to have a checkup done. I clicked on the link, went to the site, and put in a request. But you didn’t put in the service request, it actually put in a request to have a diagnostic test. When this person called me, he was trying to ask me what the issue was. I was like, “Nothing. It’s just for the checkup.” So then, I guess I had to call somebody and they had to change it. They seemed to have to close that one out and open up a new one.

Two days went by and we were still freezing. So, we figured the heat wasn't working. The contractor came out the same day, which was impressive, and they got it working. We just had a one-year homeownership anniversary, so we’ve been with American Home Shield a little over one year and we only had one other claim with them, which was when it was time to turn the air on. I was asking them if we were gonna have to call them every time that we want to switch from air to heat. They got it working but we don't know what the issue is. There should be a better explanation. Still, I would recommend them because of all the different options for what they cover. They even have the electronic policy.

My stove and my dishwasher broke and I had to buy new ones. The appliance man who looked at my dishwasher said to me, "Why don't you buy one of those home plans?" I called American Home Shield and told them I had three houses. They were more than willing to cover it. Unfortunately, they're probably not happy with me because once I bought the policy, everything broke. I had to use them five times. I don't want these things to break, but the reason I bought it is because I'm getting too old to be worrying about three houses anymore, and this was convenient. I had a control board that shorted out and Total Air Care fixed it. They had to order the board and then come back, which took six days. I was lucky. The weather had broken and we had six days of cooler weather. Otherwise, I would not have been happy.
I've been more than happy with American Home Shield, but right now, I'm not. In fact, I have a dispute going on. I called them out to fix my hot tub and they said they don't fix above ground hot tubs. I said, "All right. But then, take off the $10 a month that you're charging me and refund me the $30 for the three months that you did charge me." The representative said he couldn't do that. They can't adjust the price. I said, "You're gonna charge me for the next nine months for something that you don't cover?" He said yes.
When I asked to speak to a supervisor, he said one wasn't available and one would call me back, which of course they never have. They cannot charge me for something I don't have or they don't cover. Because my hot tub broke, I got rid of it, so I don't even have it here anymore. My credit card company has stopped all payments to American Home Shield and now they're fighting my charge card company because I took it up with them. If I have to, I'll go to another company.
I paid a $100 service fee for something that they don't service. I'd like to have $100 back too. In one of the houses. I paid a $100 service fee for a garage door opener. When the contractor got there, it turns out that my tenant's son adjusted the chain and that's why it broke. I was angry with my tenant because I wouldn't have had to pay the service fee if she had been honest with me, but I didn't fight American Home Shield's service for it. I said I was not aware of the adjustment and I paid the 100. However, why should I pay a $100 service fee plus an extra $10 a month for something that they don't cover? I'm very angry. If they wanna lose my business and their reputation for a lousy $10 a month, there's something wrong with them.

American Home Shield has been okay for the most part, except for the light fixture in our range hood that we have right now is pending, where they just dropped the ball and we haven't received anything from there. They sent some people out and said that no parts were available for it, but they never called to finish up wrapping that or closing that particular case. They found some sort of loophole in their guidelines saying that it was part of the wiring. They tried to convince us that it was not covered because that wiring for that light in the range hood was part of that exception. Unless we instigate something, I don't think it's gonna get followed up with. We feel screwed.
Recently, we had some air conditioning issues and they sent somebody out. The technician said that the air conditioner was no longer worth repairing. It took us about two weeks of me calling AHS to get someone back out here again because they kept on saying they were waiting for the contractor to send them a parts list. But how could they have a parts list if the guy said that the unit's toasted? They didn't follow up very well and so I called them. I even contacted the contractor and asked about our air conditioner. Normally, if something is irreparable, they would cast us out, it’s beyond their limit. I had this experience with our house in Garden Valley where our range hood was obsolete. They couldn't fix it, so they cast us out for it. But that never happened.
Another technician came from the same company and got the unit going and then it was working. There was a leak in it and then before the 24 hours expired, the unit stopped working. They came out again and fixed it. It's been working fine now. However, if it wasn't for my follow-up and calling them, Home Shield would’ve never said or done anything.
Home Shield should proactively follow-up on items that are not dealt with or fixed immediately. They could say, “This is wrong. You can't get your parts that’s in the contract,” or “We'll cash you out,” like they did with the other one, and that was fine. We make a decision. We go out and find something to replace it. If we upgrade, that's up to us. At least we had that option. We have three houses, and I usually have a home warranty on the older ones. I would reconsider signing them up again.

I put in a claim with AHS regarding the AC on Saturday night. The contractor called me to schedule it on Monday and then came out Tuesday. He thought that there's a leak. He put in four pounds of coolant and he put in the dye. Then he's gonna come back and check in the evening to see if there's a leak. He was gonna come back Friday was the arrangement. ‘Cause I've got his number. I texted him on Saturday, “Can you let me know what's going on?” But he had a family emergency and had to go to California. He had just told me, “As soon as I am back, I'll take care of it. I'll get in touch with you.” This guy's been great.
Right when we first moved in, there was a leaking gasket, one of the tubs. A plumber came out and immediately fixed it. It was a quick, easy thing. The other claim that we did with AHS was there was no air conditioning coming through the master bedroom into the bathroom. A company came out. They were supposed to fix the ductwork. They left the light on in the attic, which I can't access. That company was not exactly the most helpful.
They also had originally scheduled it and then screwed up the date. They didn't bother to show up the first time that I had to deal with stuff. I had to wait an extra 10 days to even get them to come out for it because they forgot to put me on the text schedule after the office scheduled it. Because it was a warranty, I was not a priority. If it's 115 in Vegas, and you're gonna try to tell me that I'm gonna have to wait 10 days for somebody to come out to look at my air conditioner, that thing doesn't work. AHS has done well with what they cover with what the prices are. However, they could really do better in getting more quality people to come out. It's been a cluster with the companies that American Home Shield gets.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

The most recent claim I submitted was for a refrigerator. I was a little bit perturbed because Home Shield sent a technician and he came in, he looked at it, he spent five minutes, and he spent 45 minutes in his van. I had to text him and ask if he was coming back in. He told AHS that the refrigerator could not be fixed. It was something with the condenser. We had to get a new refrigerator and Home Shield was offering me $3,000, although the refrigerator is $8,000 when we bought it. I sent AHS a copy of the invoice about two weeks ago and I am trying to get the 3,000 but I have not heard anything. What really irritated me is in addition to the $100 that we paid, which the technician said he spent an hour, we were charged an additional $175, which he spent five minutes, and that 175 is coming out of the 3,000.
Also, I had an AC claim and Home Shield replaced it. The contractor said there's a permit pulled and I wanted to see a copy of it but I never got it. We have a new AC but we've never gotten it inspected. It should have been inspected by the county and no one ever came. I've called Home Shield and they said that was between me and the contractor and I could never get him on. These two instances really left a bad taste in my mouth but other than those, I'm happy. Home Shield has also replaced a microwave for us and a garbage disposal. I would suggest Home Shield to a friend.

I didn't realize that I had a rekey service as part of my policy with American Home Shield until I was looking at the renewal. I moved in in March of 2019 and I never had the house rekeyed. I thought it would be good to get it done. It was a little bit late in the process but the guy did a good job. For the most part, I've had a good experience with American Home Shield. However, it hasn't always been a consistent experience. Sometimes it's good but other times, I feel like I have my home warranty but I have to go take care of the issue myself anyway because the folks that were sent out didn't do a great job.
If there was anything to improve, it would be on the screening of the folks that American Home Shield is contracting with. I've had a couple of things where the folks that they sent out didn't seem to be very qualified and didn't do a good job. One of them had the potential to cause more damage to my property. That did not go well. I had to end up getting people out there and taking care of the expense myself.
When I had my last tuneup or my air conditioning, I don't even know if the person that came to do the tuneup was 16. His mom had to drive him and she was sitting out in the car while he came in to do the air conditioning tuneup. I was trying to not be ageist and think he's too young to know what he's doing. He seemed to know what he was doing but it was just sort of a little bit odd that the person that was doing the check on my units was so young, by himself, and his mom was waiting for him in the car out in the street.
I scheduled the heating and cooling tuneups that they offered and I got a confirmation that they scheduled it for Thursday. That doesn't work for me. I sent a text message but I haven't heard back from the company. I need to call them to tell them I can't do tomorrow. It would be nice if they didn't just let the companies to schedule on their own. They should always have to contact the owner to make sure that the time that they are scheduling is gonna work. Otherwise, it just ends up in more work.

It's easy if I do the claim from the website. It is awful if I try to do it over the phone because of hold times between 25 and 45 minutes. But Home Shield has been easy to work with. When GE came out, they were awesome. The problem was some cleaners that the previous homeowners had used that had caused a problem with the seal. The gentleman that came out was great. He was able to clean all that up. While he was here, he cleaned out the filter on the dishwasher too so that everything was gonna run well after he left. We weren't going to have additional problems to have to call him out for later. He gave us some pointers on some general care of it so that it would last longer.

Both of my toilets were not flushing properly. The guy from All Hours Emergency Plumber came and did a few adjustments on them and was able to get them to flush. He was good and very nice and professional. He was funny. I felt bad because while he was here, I had noticed some bubbles under my sink in the kitchen, so I had pulled everything out. There was nothing leaking. So I said, "Okay. Can you maybe just check this?" While he had his face under there, I had the sink stuffed up because I was soaking something. So I pulled the plug out and then it burst the pipe because they came loose. The poor guy got a face full of water. But he handled it very well. He tightened everything back up and said, "No big deal." He also showed me what to do if it comes loose. He was really good-natured.
He said I probably need to buy a new toilet because the one in one of the bathrooms is really old. He left me a business card just in case, so that I could get some quotes from him if I feel the need to go ahead with that. I love American Home Shield. I just bought this place two years ago and the previous owner had the warranty on everything. So I've continued with it. This is only the second time I've had to use it, but I'm really grateful that I have it because I do know repairs can get quite costly. I'm happy with the service. They always call back within 24 hours and get somebody scheduled. So far, everything's been great.

ARG Going Green came three times but they didn't do their job properly. The problem wasn't fixed. But they were very punctual on all three occasions. They gave me half an hour heads-up time, and they were awesome. The first guy who came was very genuine and honest. The second time around when their technician came, he didn't do a complete job of filling the refrigerant. He charged me and I paid him yesterday and that was it. I sent in the claim through the online portal and it was kind of rigid. It could have at least a text box where I can write something. It did not let me write anything. It was ABC two choices. That was it. Also, it was a pain to reach the customer service. They take me on hold for 20 minutes. I needed to talk to someone and one lady just hung up on me after being in the conversation for about 15 minutes.

My boost pump went out. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was easy to do. Their tech from Clearwater Pools came when he told me he was gonna be there. He found the problem and even when the work was a little tedious when he was checking the transformer, he didn't mind that he had to get wet. I was a little disappointed though that AHS and their contractor were telling me that I had electrical problems. They also told me that if the transformer issue seemed to be electrical, then the wires aren't covered. Still, AHS has a good process and I had a good experience with their contractor.

Discount Plumbing came out but it turned out that it was an electrical problem. They said I didn't have to pay another $100 on top of that. American Home Shield sent out an electrician and it turned out it's the way the place is wired. Both the guys that came from the plumbers and the electrical were very nice gentlemen. They were also very easy to get along with. I've been very happy with the response from American Home Shield and getting somebody out there. I'll be renewing here at the first of the year with it. Our recent claim with AHS was for the dishwasher. There were some issues with the circuit board. I raised a request to American Home Shield and they scheduled the provider for the service. The contractor scheduled another call with me and he asked me the right time and he came up the same day. It was all quick. The contractor came in and he said that he identified the issue immediately. After that, it took some time because there was a part that needed to be replaced. It had to get shipped to the address. It took around eight days of time. After that, he came back and he installed it.
One thing I would suggest is the status of the particular repair. It was not emailed. I had to, each and every time, go inside the app and see the information. Then, though that was not very clear, it was just telling me it is under review or under process and they didn't have much information on the website. So, if AHS could add some information like, “It is going to take this much time,” or ETA, it will be very helpful. But so far, I'm not disappointed in having a contract with American Home Shield. It's very good. Whenever I call for a repair, it's very quick and prompt. It's very professional, too. I just want to continue with American Home Shield and I would recommend to my friends also.

When submitting a claim to American Home Shield, I’ve done call-ins and sometimes, you’re on hold forever. I wanted to call to see what the status of the refrigerator was. I called their purchase department and the recorded answer I got was that my hold time would be about an hour and a half. I held for 20 minutes and gave up. The new service calls, either way, seem to work fairly well and the technicians have been good.
I’ve been with AHS for three years and it has just been this one refrigerator issue. I was supposed to get a replacement refrigerator, and I've never been told where, when, how, or why. It’s been a month now. There is a lack of communication. I sent an email off again today to my personal contact. Part of the problem may be that it's not at the house I own. It’s the tenants’ house. The woman that was assigned as our account rep on that, Kristin, didn't seem to have read the emails correctly. But that's a one-time deal. Overall, I've been very happy with American Home Shield and if I was asked a month ago, I have no problem recommending them to people buying and selling houses. Ignoring this refrigerator, my experience with AHS has been a fast response to my service calls and a resolution that met my total approval.

We had an experience with B B Lewis Plumbing that wasn't good, as far as communication but this time, it was. The sink wasn't draining in our master bath, but that's where our AC line is connected to. So, it needed to be cleared out. But they didn't clean up and they left a mess on the sink and on the rug. For 20 years, we've only had American Home Shield. The claim is easy to submit. It took a while to get a person over the phone, but they were nice whenever I spoke with them. We used to live in the Dallas area and the contractors in the Dallas area were of better quality than the ones and I felt more confident in who they were sending out. Here in Austin, it's a hit or miss with who they send out.

There was something in the panel and our wiring was not working properly. It kept switching off causing the front of my house to not have any power. I went on American Home Shield's website and paid the $75. I scheduled the service on a Saturday at about 11 o'clock. I got the confirmation that the contractor, #1 R & R Electrical Allstar, was gonna contact me but they didn't. Since the phone number was provided, I called to see if they were gonna come out. But I didn't hear from them. They called me Monday requesting to schedule an appointment and I called them back. They then scheduled the visit for Wednesday and their tech came out that day.
The R & R representative that I spoke with on the phone wasn't very nice. She called me. I work in a call center so I'm limited in the time. I called her back and I told her, “I can’t be on the phone for long because I handle calls myself. If you can email me, that would be best to schedule it.” She said she couldn't do that. She was very short and abrupt. She needed to speak to me so she ended up calling me while I was on the phone with a customer. I happened to get a little moment off the phone and we did the scheduling. The technician, on the other hand, was wonderful and was very pleasant. He told me what he was gonna do. He said it wasn't a big issue and got it fixed. He resolved everything in a fast and efficient manner. Everything has been working great.

We reached out to American Home Shield to have someone come out back in early May because we were having AC issues and they sent Sweet Mountain Air. Typically, before I use a business, I will look up reviews to make sure they are good and trustworthy. I looked up Sweet Mountain Air and they had the worst reviews I have ever read for a company. I called American Home Shield back with so many concerns and the person I spoke to was not very helpful. They just said, “You can either stick with him or you're gonna have to wait longer to have someone come out and service your AC unit.”
I never got a call from Sweet Mountain Air. I had to reach out to them and the guy hung up on me. He was so rude but I let it slide. The day he was supposed to come, he didn't show up. I called American Home Shield back and said, “He's already living up to the reviews that I read about and that I called you guys about.” The representative was somebody helpful. They tried calling him and said that he would still come that day, but we had already been waiting an hour. We're in Arizona and it was hot. I reached out to him to see where he was. Again, he was rude. He hung up on me again.
Finally, he showed up and said, “You have a leak. I'll fix it. It's gonna cost you this much in cooling." We trusted him. It was fixed and was working great. All of a sudden, our AC unit was not working. It turned out the fan died. Then Crispy Air came out. They said, "You have a huge leak. You have no refrigerant in your system at all. The wrong caps were used to seal them.” That's when I reached out to Debbie who worked for American Home Shield in California and she helped me get it escalated to have someone sooner rather than later help with the issue. It's been fabulous service from there on. Crispy Air was so amazing. I was very happy that American Home Shield was able to cover the costs because it wasn't done properly the first time. It put so much trust into them and I'm really happy that we chose them for our home warranty. We got a two-year contract which we will renew next year.

I was told the contractor did a really quick thing and in the long term, they will advise doing some adjustment and stuff. But the day after, it was clogged again and the contractor came back. There was a wiring problem and it was really easy to make the claim. Since it was all automated, I didn't get to ask questions about the process. I knew there'd be a deductible. But I didn't know that that was what that was when they asked, "Do you wanna pay $100 now?" So I paid the $100 to make the appointment. But I didn't understand. It wasn't explained at all that that was the deductible. I was still unsure if I was still gonna get another bill. So it should have been explained a little bit better. But other than that, everything worked out fine.
The contractor was great. He knew exactly what the problem was. Part of my problem was when I bought the house two and a half years ago, the underwriters insisted that these GFCIs be put in. They weren't there originally. So whoever installed them did it incorrectly, and he was able to fix that problem. He did some diagnosing and then found the root of the problem wasn't exactly where I thought it was. So he was able to trace it back to find where the problem was and fix both of the problems to fix the whole problem. He was very nice and very professional. He showed up on time. I was very excited to have my electricity working. It's better than before.

It has been two and a half weeks since we submitted a claim with AHS for our washing machine that went down on us and it is still not fixed yet. The company that they sent out from Vidor, Texas is like a one-man-show. He came out and diagnosed it. He said the lower unit would need to be replaced on it and that he would order the parts. I called him last week to find out what the status was but his voicemail said that there was some kind of a family medical crisis and he was out of the office. My wife called again this morning and she's going to call American Home Shield to see if they could get somebody else to come out to finish this.
Other than that, I haven't had any problem with the submission of claims and the process has gone pretty seamlessly with AHS. We got some good responses, too. We had somebody rekey the house a few days before the whole washing machine event and the person that AHS sent out was great and very personable. He knocked everything out in one-tenth of the time it would have taken me to do it myself. My experience with AHS has been favorable overall and they hit a 10 out of 10 on the first claim we filed for the rekeying. And I don't know if I can blame them for this situation with this particular appliance repair company that looks like a one-man-shop to me, but they should contact somebody else to take over for him if he's not able to get to his clients when he's in the middle of something.

I've had American Home Shield for a couple of years. I updated them and the service kicked in on August 8th. The claim with A & C Heating & Cooling was good. The guy was very cordial and very polite. The claim for the washer was a pain. I sent a photocopy of the receipt and I'm waiting for the check to come. My washer won’t come for another week because of the stupid virus. It will be two months to the day that I called to American Home Shield that I've been without a washer. The guy from Sears that came the first day said the washer was so old they weren't gonna find the part. I called someone at American Home Shield and told them that's what the guy said but they had to take almost a month to decide that they couldn't find the part. They took another two weeks to find the part that wasn't there. That’s kind of foolish. They were told the part is not available because the machine’s 13 years old and they don't even make it anymore. I kept calling and calling. Generally, AHS sends good contractors but submitting claims has been extremely difficult. I have been on hold for up to three hours. When I speak with their reps, I'm told that their contractor would call me. They give me the contractor's name and contact info but about half the time, I have to chase their contractors down.
Our contract with AHS says they'll either replace or fix out equipment. Our oven died and we've been waiting four months now. They couldn't fix it so they offered me $540-something. I only had one bad years ago when we had a rental property. And the technician was really rude, but Home Shield allowed me to switch and not use that technician. Recently, one of the light switches in my house was not grounded, and ARM Electric they grounded it for me. It had shocked me and they came out right away and fixed it. Silver Strand Electric came but I got completely caught up at work and was unable to get to my house in the amount of time. The guy was very nice and stayed as long as he possibly could. But in the interest of not postponing the rest of the day, he had to leave by the time. I was pretty sure that he registered it as a missed appointment or something like that.
I also submitted a request for heating and air conditioning. On the AHS site, they offer a pre-winter tune-up. I clicked on that and booked it. Then I guess there was a code that was sent from Home Shield to the vendor telling them the reason for the ticket. The code indicated that there was an issue with my heating and air conditioning, but there actually isn't. When the guy came in, he called his office. The office wouldn't let him do any work until they clarified it with Home Shield. If they do something that wasn't coded properly, then Home Shield wouldn't reimburse them properly.
The dude hung out at my house for an hour and waited until his office would clarify. He said that he would just go ahead and do the work as it sounded right. I showed him on the app, where AHS advertised it. The girl in the office said no as pre-winter tune-ups are not covered under the home warranty policies. She didn't want the guy to do the work because they would not get paid for it. I asked the guy how much is their winterization. I told him that if AHS doesn't cover it and doesn't reimburse me for it, screw it. I would pay them directly so that they could do it. He went ahead and did the work.
By the time he was done with a tune up, the lady from the office called back and the guy told her he only got 15 minutes left. She called back finally and said that the home warranty would cover it and the guy should do the work. He said alright and hung up the phone. He was done. The home warranties are never super streamlined. It's never the easiest way to get service and I completely understand. But I do it to prevent me from having to pay out a whole bunch of cash to get something fixed.

American Home Shield is a worthwhile company. Having a home warranty, you save a lot of money. Sometimes, you don't get people out as quickly as you want them but among almost everything that we had done through American Home Shield, the wait time was tolerable. We could have called up a private place and paid extra money to get it done faster but it worked out okay. I did have one emergency issue that they told me they couldn't get to immediately. They said I could call anybody I wanted to and they wouldn't charge me for it.
For the most recent claim, it took 15 days to get the water heater man out here to look at it. It turned out to not be the water heater but an electrical problem. The electrical contractor came out the next day. American Home Shield called him and he called me. We worked out when he would come. We did most of the working out after we got each other’s names. On another claim, Sears did the microwave light very well. They came out quickly and it's working now. When submitting a claim, you get to spend a long time on hold. But that seems to be true for most companies these days. It's definitely longer than I would like. To get a whole order put in, the time waiting or putting my name down to get a call back is probably 30 minutes. They give you the option of them calling you back later.

And then we put in one for our furnace. The guy came out, did what he needed to do, done. However, I have concerns about follow through. We put in a thing for our washing machine. We're still waiting. I have to now call the lady back again. Perhaps this is related to COVID-19, but to me, it's not the same Home Shield that it was of the past. Even though we got a follow-up, we're still waiting on some stuff with our washing machine. We've paid the money. The guy came out and said, "Okay, I need to order a part." That has been four weeks. So now, as the consumer, I'm trying to call and say, "Is the part in? Is the part in? Is the part in?" I'm not very pleased.
We also had one incident where we paid twice. That had to do with our dishwasher. I spent four hours on the phone, we never got a refund, and we never got the issue resolved. We've had three to four vendors come out and we paid $150 for nothing to be resolved. I would like that when I ask to speak to a supervisor, not to be told that everybody's in a meeting. That was the push-off. I asked the guy again, "Oh, all the supervisors are helping somebody." "Well, I need to help too." Home Shield sent people who said it's a plumbing issue, then another vendor said it's another issue. Then they kick it back to a plumbing issue. But at the end of the day, the dishwasher was not fixed. With $150 in light of COVID-19, we didn't have $150 to donate in addition to paying monthly. That soured me.
Good afternoon Deborah,
I have sent you an email and called attempting to reach you to assist with resolving any concerns you may have. If assistance is still needed please do respond at your earliest convenience and I will be happy to partner with you to reach a resolution!

I'm not American and we don't have this kind of thing in the UK. So, I was a little bit skeptical. But so far, we're really glad that we took out this extra layer of protection. If things do happen in the house, they can get repaired and it's a limited outlay for us. So, we've been pretty happy so far. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield from the first couple of experiences we've had so far.
We had a claim on a secondary swimming pool pump. We only just had American Home Shield since we took it in June after having a previous home warranty company. The scheduling with the app was very easy. The communication with the tradesperson was very efficient. I was very impressed. I was worried with the home warranty about the standard of tradespeople that were gonna come out. But so far, we've been very impressed with the level and the professionalism of the people they sent us. They were very helpful. We communicated by text because it was over a weekend. They told us not to kind of turn the system on, and then they were able to replace everything there and then. It was all done with one visit. Everything seems to be fine.

I recently purchased the warranty from American Home Shield and I immediately had a claim for my gas furnace that wasn't working. The contractor was really nice. I had to have them come back twice because the first time, it did not resolve the issue. But the second time, he was able to determine what it was. It was a faulty thermostat which I just fixed myself in the interest of time. American Home Shield was responsive and understood the issue. They did their best to get it fixed quickly.

Our Realtor gave us a few different options to look at, and we went and looked at Better Business Bureau and Google reviews. Home Shield had the best reviews, especially on Better Business Bureau. That was what made us choose them. My husband submitted the claim. And then, when Realty Rekey came out, he was there. Everything went good. He didn't complain or say anything bad. Him and the guy had cars in common, so they talked about cars while the guy rekeyed.

We were gone for several hours and when we came back and opened the door, the house was heated. This has not been one time. We tried to figure out where the heat was coming from. The self-clean oven was on. We could not get it turned off by trying to punch some of the buttons. Also, no buttons would work. We don't know how many hours it had been on and the racks were in the oven always. Before that when I did self-clean it, I would take the racks out and clean those by hand. It was brown all around the oven. It was completely ruined. The buttons were so hot that you couldn't touch them. They were almost melted. My husband had to unplug it at the breaker. That was the only way we could turn the thing off.
We filed for a claim with American Home Shield and our contractor was 3-D Hoover Services. They sent a man over here and he said the motherboard was all that was wrong with it. Evidently, he didn't look at everything like a woman would. The racks were burned as well as the inside and everything. We wanted a new oven but the man said we needed a motherboard. It turned out American Home Shield could not get the motherboard. They even tried to get one from the factory. When we asked about getting a whole oven, they offered us $312. But we would not accept $312 for a $2,500 oven.
They got busy and they found an oven that was comparable. The one we had was a GE Profile. The one that they found was comparable was a KitchenAid. 3-D came Thursday morning and installed it perfectly. It's a really nice oven and I really like it. It took several months but American Home Shield finally came through. I'm very satisfied.

The contractor came out for our gas leak claim. The timing was fine and the service was perfect. But they were supposed to transfer over to an appliance, a different service choice. That was a little slow. I haven't heard from anybody in reference to the appliance department yet. The issue has not been completed. It's a toss-up mainly because it works. But sometimes, you have to really be diligent about getting things done, which involves making phone calls, being on the phone for least an hour on average. That’s the one problem I have. I've never tried to do it online and I guess it's not American Home Shield's issue. I would recommend them to others. But I would let others know that they have to be committed to it, because if not, then they're not going to get the right service. Once they actually get someone on the phone from American Home Shield, it’s normally a good experience.

A tech came out about two or three weeks ago and looked at our washer. The bearings had gone out on it. He had to order the parts for it. Another tech came out Monday. He told me he would be there between 8:00 and 12:00. He got there a little past 8:00. He said it would take about three or four hours, and it did. But he got the washer fixed. It sounded like a jet engine when we used it. After he repaired it, it was so quiet. I did five loads yesterday. Both of the techs who came did a really good job. They were very professional and we had a good experience with them.
We also put in a claim this past February because the faucet in the spare bathroom was leaking. A contractor came out and took it apart. It needed a cartridge unit but they didn’t have it. I called American Home Shield a couple of times and their rep said they are still looking for the part. The water’s been turned off in the bathroom since February. The guy that put the faucet in before we owned the house got it at Home Depot online. But the rep said they can’t order from there and they had to go through their supplier. Other than that, we’ve had a good experience with American Home Shield.

I originally called American Home Shield for a plumbing issue. When I talked to the representative, I didn't know what was wrong with my waterline but I had a leak. It looked like it was outside. The rep mentioned that if the leak is not in the house or the foundation, they would not cover it. So I just went on and said that I needed the electrical done. But when I finally got the plumbers to come out to check on the leak, they found that it was in the foundation. I ended up having to pay one plumber to come out and pay 95 for that, and then I called for another plumber that I could finance through. That was $3,100 because they had to replace the line. I'm at the point now where I don't know how American Home Shield does it if you use an outside company. I'm waiting on invoices to submit to them and I'm not sure how that's handled but I haven’t been dissatisfied with American Home Shield from past visits.
For the electrical issue, some of my lights were flickering and I had some ceiling fans that I thought that didn’t work. I couldn't turn them on. The technician was excellent. We thought it was something electrical but he showed us it was not by taking the bulb that was flickering and putting it in another socket, and it still flickered. He educated us on the wattage that we were using and explained about the LED light flickering when they’re about to go out. Then he did a couple of adjustments with the ceiling fan.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

I bought the house in May of 2018 and American Home Shield came with the house. The first year, I didn't pay for it, but because of the service I received and how great everything was, I went ahead and renewed it. I'm set up on auto renewal 'cause I don't want it to lapse. Recently, every time I turned the hot water on, it was leaking out of the handle and I had a constant drip. The gentleman that came out was awesome. He asked me if I had any questions about the sink, how it worked. It was great.
AHS should just keep on doing what they're doing 'cause it's a phenomenal company for individuals like myself. I've been divorced for 20 years. It's a rent-a-husband-without-attitude, so it's great. I just love it because it's $75 for them to come out. An example is when the refrigerator that I got with the house, we tried several times to hook up the ice maker. It leaked on the outside, on the inside. I forgot I had AHS. So, I called them. I got a brand-new refrigerator and the only thing that was wrong with it was the ice maker. Now I have a refrigerator in the garage and I have one in the house. I couldn't be happier with American Home Shield, their customer service. I get phone calls and follow-up texts. They let me know who's coming when they're coming. Then the technicians call me to verify, and then they call me anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half out.

We had a kitchen sink backed up. The second company that came out was great. They came, fixed the problem and left in 15 minutes. The first company that came out ruined my stuff in my home, left and I lost $200 for the visit. It seemed like the technician was not educated on his job. He didn't know what he was doing. He dropped something in the garbage disposals and turned the garbage disposal on. Then he broke the little cap that goes near my faucet. Whatever he dropped in the garbage disposal caused it to malfunction. Now, it’s giving like a loud hissing sound where you know something's wrong with it.
It was night time. I didn't want that sitting there. I took it off and I had to go buy one myself. I spent $180 on it. The tech was arguing saying that he didn't break it. But we're standing right there on the new garbage disposal. It’s not even a year old until he broke it. I reached out to American Home Shield and they said they’d follow up and do an investigation. I haven't heard back and it's been over a week.
Overall, with American Home Shield, an issue is never resolved the first time. It always takes two to three times. It’s never a one-and-done. I recommend them to everyone else that I know. My cousin has a house out here. She got the plan. I recommended them to my cousin in another city, too. I like their service. It’s not their fault, but every company is different. You don't know who you're really getting. When they usually hand me the company that's coming out, I always check, “What are their reviews?” Most of the time, it’s like 2-stars or 3-stars. I’m like, “Great. Doesn't this mean I’m gonna have to kick the guy out of my house ‘cause he’s not gonna know what to do?” Then, usually, it's always terrible and I have to call back. Then, I finally get a good company. I am still satisfied because they get contractors out pretty quickly.

The technician that came out for our AC unit was very professional, very nice and tried to explain everything the best he could to us. We're up there in age, so we don't know a lot of new stuff. He said that he would turn his paperwork in to his boss and his company would then, in turn, turn it in to American Home Shield but we haven't heard back from anybody. We've been waiting for American Home Shield to call us and tell us if they were gonna do something and what they were gonna do. From the day the AC guy came out, we have not heard from them or AHS.
My sister-in-law referred us to American Home Shield in Georgia and she loved them. So we gave AHS all the information when we inititally called them. On the 9th, they were supposed to take our third payment. However, I kept looking at my bank account 'cause I check it every day and they never took the money out. I said to my husband, "Ty, you need to call them. Something's not right. I don't think they've processed anything." We really should've had it for four months. So that was the first bad taste with American Home Shield in my mouth.
The second was when our washer just quit spinning. It took 10 days to get it fixed. Because the company that was doing the repair had the incorrect home address and they never showed up. We waited on them and I canceled two appointments on that Friday. I couldn't get any help on the phone, so I ended up sending AHS a message through Facebook Messenger and it still took them three days to get back to me. I really don't know if they are the right home warranty company for us.
Good Morning Sabrina,
I understand you were not happy with the outcome of your experience with AHS. I will work to see if there are any other options and follow up with you as soon as possible with an update. Thanks for your patience.

Red Wing Plumbing and Heating was amazing. I hope that they continue to be with American Home Shield. I'm still moving into the home. We had a mystery happening to us. On our kitchen sink, we couldn't figure out why we didn't have any water pressure. They tried a couple of things, and then they finally mitigated that. So, that was fantastic, and I was super happy about that. Then our water heater was continuously dripping. We just put a bucket under there. It was a slow drip. The contractor tried a number of things and what it ended up to be was a water pressure device needed to be installed between our water heater and the outside water source coming from our city. That was not covered by American Home Shield because it was something that wasn't already installed. So, we had to pay for that piece. But once they put that in, it resolved the issue immediately.
American Home Shield's wait times are crazy, and it's just because of the environment we're in these days. This is something they could not control. Their call volumes have increased substantially. With everything COVID, the world has been turned upside down. But what they do offer, which I really appreciate, is you can opt in to have them call you back. That works out really well. You press whatever button to say, “Hey, we'll call you back when we're ready.” I really like that feature. I have American Home Shield with another home too. I really love their appliance purchase program where you can purchase an appliance from them. They won't install it so you can be creative in whom you partner with to get it installed.
Given the call volume that they're experiencing, I've never felt the reps being short with me. Their customer service comes naturally to them, and maybe that's how they set out their employees. I've never felt that they were rushing me or pushing me along or making me do decisions that I wasn't comfortable with. They hire really good people. Every single person I've talked to is the most professional, very knowledgeable, and doesn't feel rushed to get me off the phone even given their call volume.
I really like American Home Shield. I've had good experience with my other home, and I'm having good experience with this home. They couldn't cover the piece that we needed for our water heater. But then they did fix our washing machine. They gave us a rebate for the washing machine because it was kaput. At my other home, I had this very unique refrigerator and it was not repairable. American Home Shield gave me money to get it replaced. And that was very generous. It's a built-in refrigerator that you see in very expensive homes. I had no idea what I was getting into because this refrigerator on the market cost like about $10,000.
American Home Shield gave me a good amount of money to replace it. Then I bought my refrigerator through American Home Shield at a significant discount. What American Home Shield will do is they'll drop it in your driveway. They don't install it for you, so you have to figure out that piece of it. But given this fridge was like 10K on the open market, I got it at a significant reduction. So, even though I was out-of-pocket money because of the difference, I was extremely happy with how customer service works with me.
My dishwasher was having a problem, too. It’s just ugly at the old house. So, what I did is I bought my dishwasher through them too through their discount program. It's a crazy great discount program. I got the dishwasher to match the refrigerator. It looks really nice. So, I think what sold my home is that my kitchen was gorgeous now with this gorgeous refrigerator and this wonderful dishwasher that I had. It was all through their discount program. I was lucky enough to find somebody in the local area here where I live that install things even though that you don't buy them from them.
I was stressed because that was my first experience with American Home Shield trying to do a problem, and everyone I talked to was wonderful. I called a lot because I was really skeptical about this whole program. “What do you mean you just drop it in my driveway?” I called a lot and customer service was fantastic. They coached me on the right fridge to buy because I was so confused because it was so unique. They were trying to help me not spend a lot of money and get the wrong kind of fridge. Every person was very knowledgeable and very patient, and very empathetic. It was like they were walking in your shoes with you. Every contractor that American Home Shield sent out always met or exceeded my expectation every single time.

We had a plumbing issue so we submitted a claim with AHS. However, when the contractor came out, he just looked at it and it was fixed. Whatever was stopped up in it had an opportunity to clear out. So far, it has been doing well. One time, the air conditioner broke and it was the compressor and the contractors had to take out all of the Freon. Then the compressor went out again. We had to pay a tremendous price for the Freon. We spent $1,100 dollars on the Freon. AHS covers only a very limited amount of the Freon cost. Then when it went out again, we would have had to go through the compressor manufacturing company for a warranty on them, but we’d have lost the Freon. So we went ahead and bought another air conditioner outside the policy.

Climate Express came out two times for my AC unit that wasn't cooling. I asked a tech to come out and check on it in my mudroom. I wanted all of them to be checked out but the tech with Climate Express could only check one. I agreed to have the one checked so we started over there at the mudroom and realized that the pan was full so it had an automatic shutoff. The tech got that going, cleaned it out, and drained the pan.
There are three units in this house. On the second call, my painters and my electrician noticed that the other unit on the other side of the house was hot and the fan had stopped and it was humming. My electrician pulled the breaker switch on it. I was told that the fan had broken so American Home Shield replaced that. Now, the AC is running like it should.
I find American Home Shield's site to be fine and accessible. I can get to it. But I'm challenged right now. I called in a dryer malfunction. I contacted the company, Supreme Tech, on Monday and they couldn't get to me until Saturday. I have a 48-hour window for my claim from what I understand about my contract. I told Supreme Tech that the schedule would not work so I was gonna have to call American Home Shield back. I spoke with a rep and it sounded like the call was dispatched from another country. The rep said she had to call the company that was originally assigned to the claim before she could assign another.
I requested another contractor, All In One, because they had come out the week before for my washer. They took care of it and straightened it out. I liked their service. I presumed that just like how Climate Express seemed to have gotten called when I had AC problems, I would have the same one for the washing machine and dryer. American Home Shield called this other company but this one said they were too busy. When I called American Home Shield back, they said, “We have to call this company that was too busy and either figure out what they're doing or let them know that we’re gonna change it from them or something.”
I refused to hold and asked if they could just go ahead and re-assign the claim. The rep said she couldn't reassign until she talked with them. Yesterday, I got a call from Supreme Tech saying they were confused. They said, “You told us that our time was too late to get to you. We asked you to call American Home Shield.” I said I did and was told that the rep had to call them to make sure. I then went back to attempting to call American Home Shield. I must have gotten distracted. I tried to put a work order in online and was asked if wanted to do it again since I already submitted that claim. I said yes but nobody ever called after that. It's almost like it's dead now. My dryer has been down since Monday and won't turn on. I've been in the house for 17 days so I'm going left and right with another claim now. I haven't gotten back to it yet.
Despite that, I am satisfied. American Home Shield is doing their job. They're sending the people out. I'm paying $75 every time they do it and nobody has left here saying they could not help me, which I appreciate. Climate Express is the best AC people I've ever met. The ones around this area work for commission so these guys are still hourly. They had to fix what was broken and I had charges. I had another guy come out from another company and I had $9,000 worth of charges. Climate Express came out and told me how great my systems look and they felt great.

They're not adequate for the door." He made that diagnosis without even attempting to lift the door to see that the springs balanced the door as they were supposed to.
I'm kind of an engineer myself and I can tell the springs are not broken. Frequently, garage door springs have rust on them. I have a broken coupling for the Jackshaft where the motor connected to the shaft that lifts the door. That was one issue. He ordered the part and it came 10 days later. I called him, he came out and put that on and installed the part before telling me how I needed new springs. It turned out that he didn't really know how to operate or work on the Jackshaft lift. He said, "We have a technician who's more educated on these than myself. I'll get him to come by." That guy never came by. I called three or four times wanting to know when he was coming and it was one thing after another. The last call I made to them was the fella who proclaimed himself as being the expert on the Jackshafts and he said, "It's very clear from the report here that your springs are bad." That was the reason. That Jackshaft's damage was secondary damage therefore there's no coverage.
I called and he said he put in a report and to see what American Home Shield would say. I waited a couple of hours and called American Home Shield. I spoke to someone who pulled up that the report had just been filed. That's almost a month after they called the first call. He didn't submit the report till I called and inquired about it and finally got the guy. I said, "That's not the problem. The springs are good and they function as they're supposed to." I told them I wanted a second opinion. I asked if D & G Garage Doors still works for them. I figured they didn't because they gave the first order to Garage Door Experts. She said they still do so I asked for Darrell to come. Darrell has come out here before and adjusted this door for me. He knows his beans. The young lady was very good and explained to me the procedure that if the second opinion is the same as the first, then I owe for the second opinion expense as well. I said to go ahead and do it.
Darrell came out, looked at it and said, "The springs are good. There's something inside the motor that's broken and they don't make this anymore. We've gotta get a new Jackshaft on there." These other guys, Garage Door Experts, all they wanna do is sell a spring at twice the price of what they should cost. They don't have that good a reputation. To that extent, I'm not happy because they're a lousy contractor. But in so far as cooperating with me and getting my second opinion, and with Darrell from D & G, I'm very happy with that solution.
Good Morning Robert,
Thank you for providing your feedback concerning the company that was out to your home. We will be passing on your concerns to our Contractor Relations Department for further evaluation. We apologize for the experience and are happy to hear the repairs have been completed. Have a great weekend and please stay safe.

The oven was showing an error message and wasn’t turning on at all. It would just shut down. I called in and paid the $100 then American Home Shield sent out a dispatch guy. He was able to fix my oven and I appreciate that. He did some repairs on it and he had to buy a special part. He responded on time and was able to answer all my questions.

It's easy to submit a claim to American Home Shield but it's not easy to get the work done. I had my tankless hot water heater repaired or replaced and the contractor was quick to come over. It was getting everything done through American Home Shield and the plumbing company that they used was amazing. The new tankless hot water heater was sent and when the technicians came to install it, they took my old one out and got ready to put the right one in. But it was the wrong one and then it took about three weeks to get all the right stuff together. I was on hold with AHS for two hours and 45 minutes total, and I talked to somebody for about 15 minutes.
I have another claim right now for my microwave and the place that came and looked at it told me right away that it was gonna have to be replaced. They said that AHS was gonna be contacting me so that I could order a new one. They never contacted me and so, I called them and got ahold of somebody. He said that he was gonna transfer me because I need to put in an order for this new one. I was on hold for over two hours. I finally had to hang up because I had to go to work. I’ve been with American Home Shield nine years and it used to be a lot easier. I know a lot of it has to do with COVID but my experience with them so far has been very frustrating and very time consuming.

I had Ambient Air come out and see what the problem was. My upstairs air conditioning unit was making a grinding noise. I put the claim in on a Sunday. American Home Shield sent me the name that Monday and Ambient Air came out that Friday and fixed the problem. It was all done in less than a week. They were perfect. They respected my home and wore masks and shoe coverings. When they initially came in and checked everything out on the inside and when they entered back into the residence when they had to go out and do whatever work they did, they always knocked and announced themselves before they walked in. They were very respectful, very professional, and very expedient.

I had a leaky toilet and my claim for it started awful. But American Home Shield turned it around. What happened was I submitted the request online and everything was excellent. They texted me back right away that I was assigned Gennaro’s Plumbing and to contact them to set an appointment. I did that. It was on a Sunday. I called on Monday and Gennaro’s Plumbing came out. They are a small plumbing company. A representative from there named Franco, who looked like a little teenager, said there was so much moisture in the bathroom and he was gonna have to get his boss who was in the car. But there was really maybe a tablespoon of water on the floor from where the toilet leaked when you flush it. But I was told there was water everywhere.
This second guy comes in with Franco and he immediately said that there was so much mold. There was so much water damage that he could see. He took this little blue forky thing and he put it on the wall and said it was so wet over there as well as over other places. I'm like, “What are you talking about? It’s just the toilet.” But he said that it was because all this stuff was happening with the toilet every time I flushed it. I was like, “How do you even know any of that’s happening? You haven't even looked at what's wrong with the toilet.” There was no way that it was on either side of the walls. And it was in my other bathroom too, he said. It was crazy.
He goes on to tell me that, together, we could get my whole bathroom remodeled. He was gonna call this third-party company called Clear Coast Restoration. They were going to come in and photograph my bathroom as this disastrous wet mess. After which we could call my homeowner's insurance and we could tell them that the bathroom was flooded and they would pay for an entirely new bathroom. It would no longer be with American Home Shield. I told him that I didn't need a new bathroom and just needed the leaky toilet fixed. But he said, “No. But we can get it. And it's okay that you're gonna wet the towels and put them on the floor. It's not staging. All you're doing is bringing to a visual what the problem is.” It sounded illegal.
Clear Coast Restoration came in and American Home Shield had no idea about this. When I called them, they clarified that. This Clear Coast Restoration Company said they needed a $500 deposit and they needed me to sign a contract with them. They were gonna set up a lockbox on my door so that they could come in and out even when I was not home. They needed to jackhammer the floor too and would need to cut the entire wall behind the bathroom. That was when he got my attention because he said he was gonna put it as a soft sewage something. I was like, “Wait a minute. Sewage what’s that? There’s no sewage here. All it is is inside the toilet. I think it’s because the bolt came off or something.”
I get scared and started crying. I told them I needed to talk to my husband because I couldn't sign anything. I'm alone at home with my three kids when this man was in my house telling me I needed to sign this contract. And if I didn't sign it, I would be putting everyone in my home at risk because of this water damage and mold. But it’s impeccable in that bathroom and the only problem was that the wax ring was loose underneath and it came off.
I finally got the guy to leave as nicely as possible. I called back to American Home Shield and the girl that answered said that the tech said the problem was due to my uneven floor. That was where the leak was from. But that could not be the case. I'm not being conceited that my bathroom floor is perfect, but it's not uneven. I asked what tool the tech put down for measurement to say that the floor was uneven. If he was using his eyeballs, then so was. There was no possible way the floor was uneven and I could lay down on the floor and show that to the rep.
The rep said they could send out a second opinion plumber. But if that plumber came back and said it was the uneven floor, they were gonna charge me another $100. I told her that was not fair. First of all, they sent out an awful company. I was not gonna stand for this. She then said, “If you're so sure it's not the floor, then you have nothing to worry about.” I let it go saying, “You know what, whatever.” I called back the next day. This was when it started to turn around. I talked to this very nice man and he said that the $100 was gonna be charged if the tech came back. He told me not to worry as he had a strong feeling it was not gonna be that way. I agreed with him because I knew it was not the floor.
They sent out Direct Plumbing or Plumbers Direct. From the moment David got here, he told me, “Don't worry, if this is all it is, you're absolutely right.” He moved the toilet to look at what was wrong. We had to even wait for him to come back a second time because the first time was for a second opinion so he couldn’t fix anything until it was approved. But I didn't even mind waiting anymore because he was so wonderful and kind. He took his time. He confirmed everything I said. There was no water on the wall. I told him that my kids take a bath here and that was probably why it was wet on the little floorboard on that particular corner because they splash. And when my kid is going back and forth in the bathtub, that was where the water came out.
David explained everything to me and he double-checked everything that other awful plumber said. He said that none of what they said was true. He took care of the problem and fixed it today. Overall, I would like for American Home Shield to do better a homework on companies they are referring to come to the house. Other than that, it's great to have the home warranty. Every time we had a problem, they solved it.

Josko came out and put a new hot water tank in. Our previous one sprung a leak. But I had American Home Shield sent somebody two other times because I knew eventually it was gonna spring a leak because the whole bottom was full of rust and I was trying to prevent the leak. I paid $125 each time they sent somebody out. Any time they sent somebody out, they said that I would get a replacement, but American Home Shield never called me back to let me know that they closed it. Finally, this last time, because it did spring a leak and they could see the water in the bottom in the pan, then they went ahead and replaced it.
I usually call American Home Shield to submit claims. It's fairly easy when you submit a claim. They send me an email letting me know that they've assigned a contractor and they're good at giving me the telephone number so I can call them too if I need to. People have also been very prompt in setting up appointments. The latest contractor who came out was was fantastic. He got the job done.
I called them today because they said that they had to do an inspection with the county, and nobody's ever come out. I didn't tell them, but when they took the door down to put the heater in, they had to put the door back up and put the hinges. Now, when we shut the door, it looks like it's pushing against the water pipes itself. This is something I'm gonna bring up tomorrow when they come out. I called them today to find out when are they gonna come out to do the inspection. I don't want that to create problems of shutting that door and pushing on the water pipe, and then have the seals break.
I've been with American Home Shield for years, and so far, it's been better than not better. I've had good responses and you got to take the good with the bad. They did replace a refrigerator and they now have replaced a hot water tank. The only thing they didn't replace was a microwave because they said I had roaches. But I didn't see no roaches. The contractors didn't show me any roaches to prove what they said and what they didn't say.

We had no hot water. Then the hot water heater had a little bit of water. The guy from Advanced Home Services came out and he said, "Oh, it needs to be replaced. It's leaking on the outside and the base needs to be replaced. But they didn't give me a base to replace it.” He told me everything, and then they quoted me $775. I said, "That's a lot of money, if I have warranty. That's ridiculous."
And I said, "Why do the base need to be replaced? Because we just bought this home and it passed inspection with the base the hot water heater's on." They said, "No, no. It has to be replaced. And they charge you for it." I asked how much do they charge, and it was like $300. Home Depot sells them for $35. The guy said, "Well, they charge you 350. Do you want me to get the base and bring it back or do you wanna talk to the boss?" I talked to the boss. They didn't include the base. He said, "Oh, I'll credit you the money back." I ended up paying them like $430 for it.
I submit claims to American Home Shield online, and I gotta pay in advance, which is not right. I'm paying and I don't even know when my appointment is. With the hot water heater, I went online. The problem is nobody answers the phone, and when they do, they're in the Philippines. They don't understand you, you're repeating yourself. I've gotten so frustrated with American Home Shield because you can't talk to anybody. When you do, it's these people and you repeat yourself. When I tell them I wanna speak to a manager, they won't give you to a manager. I have three houses with American Home Shield. I am so frustrated with them. When my contract's up, I'm not gonna renew. It's a fight for everything. It's an argument. They don't wanna do anything. Yet, I gotta pay $100 co-pay even before I know when they're gonna come and look at the property.
The contractors are okay. They're just doing their job. I even posted on American Home Shield's page on Facebook. It says, "I hate American Home Shield." You should see the people. In one of my rental properties, the compressor in the air conditioner took three weeks to get fixed. It was in the middle of summer and it was over 100 degrees. I had to go out and buy portable fans and air conditioners for my tenant. They use COVID as an excuse. "Because of COVID, we don't have the part in stock. We have to order it." That's not my problem. That's not my tenants' problem.

I submitted a claim for a washer and dryer, a microwave, and an AC unit, and it was a waste of money. I would have never got American Home Shield because they weren't able to fix anything. I had to buy a new washer. I spent $300 in fees of people going out when I shoulda just bought the washer to begin with. The contractors seemed like they didn't wanna work. They seemed like they were just rushed to go in and out. They go out there but they're not trained enough to do anything so they're not gonna do anything for you unless they have to.
The guy that serviced my AC was horrible. He only spent like five minutes there. He basically told me my whole unit needed to be completely redone. It leaked freon so he told me to call the warranty people because I have a major issue with the unit. But the warranty was not going to pay for it because it was running. I was also very disappointed with the people that serviced the washer. I couldn't even wash my clothes for a long time. Something with the wheel broke off and they tried to say it where it's my fault that the wheel broke off. It's wear and tear. But how did I do wear and tear? I've been using it like a normal washer. But I'm not going to argue with these people. Yesterday, I bought a new washer.
I'm very dissatisfied and I would never recommend to anybody. You're gonna waste your money if you go to American Home Shield. It was overall a horrible experience and I'll probably never buy a warranty again because it'll kill you. You're gonna spend $100 each time somebody goes out there and if they can't help you, you're basically out of 100 bucks.

We closed on our house August 30th of last year. The owners provided the home warranty from American Home Shield for the first year. We used it to rekey. We also had a dishwasher and plumbing issue which was handled efficiently and effectively. We decided to go ahead and keep the coverage so we keep renewing. I talked to the lady and I thought that she put the renewal through. But the payment was not taken out and I didn't catch that.
When we ended up having the problem, I was informed that I was not a customer. I told them I just did the renewal. Unfortunately, that hit on the week that our mortgage was due so we first paid our mortgage and had to wait the following week to pay the 70-whatever it was. Other than that, we're satisfied with American Home Shield. The company that came for the dryer that stopped hearing was very punctual. My only complaint is I got numerous texts about who'd been assigned, that they'd be contacting me, and my appointment schedule. But they very professional.

We had a plumbing issue in the shower in our master bathroom. There was some knocking and groaning in the pipes in the wall. We opened the claim through American Home Shield and the guy from Brick Street Plumbing came out and fixed it. It got a lot better. He did a great job, was prompt and seemed to address the issue. But there may be another underlying issue that he wasn't aware of that we may have to try to address again. My wife let me know yesterday that it might still be knocking some more but I've got to investigate that a little bit. I wouldn't put that on him because it sounded like it was fixed when he left. I'd have trouble demonstrating for him if he were here. It's inconsistent. So what I might do is to try to record it next time it happens and maybe I can then share it with him.
American Home Shield has been great. I made another claim for a refrigerator repair. We had a small beverage, cooler fridge in our basement and it still ran in blue air but the air was hot. It wasn't cooling. It was a different company and the guy came out today. He added more Freon to the compressor and replaced these little electrical relays. I got to check it again. I've been gone but when I left, it was getting cold in the fridge. So, he knocked it out. I've been pleased so far. We just had American Home Shield three weeks ago and I was motivated to get the most out of the warranty as I could. We're in the DC area and it's competitive here. In order to even have our foot in the door for an offer, we had to waive the home inspection. So, the Realtor offered to buy us a warranty to kinda offset the risk.

The AC was barely blowing out and I wasn't getting any coolness. But the Budget tech said that he couldn't touch it. About a year ago, I had someone come out and converted over from using Freon to some other kind of refrigerant that didn't cost so much and the refrigerant that I had in was not one that AHS approved. Also, the Budget tech told me my air was in bad shape. He told me I need to cut it off. The line was frozen where we had had it going. Now, the air is coming out like a little better, but still not cool.
My whole reason for getting AHS was because I was really concerned about trying to handle the repairs on this house, mainly those furnaces. I figured that I needed something to kinda help me in case there was an issue with that. Now, here we are eight years later and I have an issue and it looks like American Home Shield can’t help me. The AC had some drainage issues and there was a lot of water on the unit. The first time that Douglas Mechanical came out, they said that they cleaned the clogging from the attic and that the water around the unit was normal. But it didn't look normal to me. The unit was working more than it should. 10 days later, it stopped cooling. So I called again and had them come out. When they came out, they said that the motor fan was burned and it triggered the power to shut off the compressor so it wouldn't burn. That was why it wasn't cooling. We had a lot of rain this week and it was hard to work on the unit or during the rainy time. They also had to order the part and scheduled me back. So it took about six days longer than I expected. But at the end of the day, they took care of it and they fixed it.
American Home Shield has vendors that they screen first and then send out to check out the problem. I like the convenience of having it, especially for emergencies because sometimes, I don't know which company to call. It makes sense that I can call somebody that has a list of vendors to use. This way, when I make a claim, I don't have to go through six companies to find the right one. I'm very satisfied with them.

American Home Shield’s awesome. Recently, they sent out a tech and he was dealing with my plumbing because I had a leak from upstairs to downstairs. So, at that point, I didn't know what else to do. Other than that, submitting the claim was very easy and the tech who came out was very professional. He knew exactly what he was supposed to do, got right to the problem, and corrected it. And the only flaw was that he left footprints in the carpet even if he had on the protective gear for the feet. But that was because of the weather and it was a minor thing. I could clean that up.

I didn't know what to put down other than a faucet issue because it was the closest choice available to the problem I had. Still, the tech from the repair company that came out was very good. My water heater was replaced in January and the tech had to replace a part of that because the pressure getting to it had ruined the pop-off valve. AHS should be able to determine whether people with their insurance have a handicapped person in the house and expedite them. I had to wait four days to have service people get out to my location and I have a handicapped person in my house. Not having hot water available creates a problem.

The second call, within the next two weeks, was for the thermostat and they replaced it. They gave a four-hour window and it was five minutes until the window was up when they showed up. He did not call and just said that he was there to do it. It was a busy time, but still. American Home Shield should be quicker on the calls. I’ve been with them since 2012 and three years ago, I had the air conditioner changed out when it was 110 outside, and it took them almost a week. But a warranty does help and it saves you money. They wanna come out the same day, but I was busy. I was having low pressure and I was having a leak from my pool pump. I thought that perhaps my pool pump being leaking, there was a problem with it that was causing the low pressure.
The technician troubleshot the pump and said there was nothing wrong with it, was able to tighten up some different lines and some of the associated equipment. He took a look at it just to make sure there was nothing else that was causing the problem. He gave me a thorough rundown and everything was good. The pressure is still a little bit low, but it might be the filtration system. I'm gonna have to take a look at that myself. But what I initially thought was the problem based on the leaking of the pump itself is not. I'm extremely satisfied with American Home Shield.

My experience with AHS has been average. I've had both positive and negative results from submitting claims with them. I had a washing machine go out and AHS sent a guy who then had to order parts. I never heard from that guy and when I called Home Shield, the reps said that they thought that the guy resolved the problem. They then sent somebody else out. Still, I was without a washing machine for three weeks. It was a very sloppy job.
With my recent claim for an AC issue, Home Shield handled it excellently. I submitted my claim by phone and I was very surprised that one of their contractors was out within three hours. I've had about seven homes insured with AHS and I've been okay with their warranty. But once I get my new AC system put in, I will probably no longer use them.

Doing claims with American Home Shield was an easy process but there was misunderstanding and miscommunication because I was talking to somebody in a different country. Other than that, the contractor was great. There was something that I told the home warranty, and they didn't list it down. There were three problems and they didn't list one of them. So, I had to call back to get them to add that on, which should have been on there in the beginning.
The contractor had to come back three times to get the issue corrected. There was a leak after he did the job the first time. He had to come back a second time. He replaced the sink, and that was still leaking. So, he had to come back the third time to correct it. Other than that, the company's great. They're really understanding and accommodating. I'm completely satisfied with American Home Shield. There are some things that I didn't add on to the contract that I wish I had added on. But they are great. I told my friends about them, and they called.

I had a vent that wasn't working. I paid 80 bucks to American Home Shield and submitted a claim. They then sent someone out to help me. The people who came out were inexperienced with the type of work that needed to be done though. They crawled under the vent and figured out that there wasn't any air coming out as well as probable reasons for the vent not working. They submitted those reasons back to American Home Shield who then approved the fix. They came back a week later and installed the new duct that was collapsed underneath the house. The process was straightforward and I'm very happy with my AHS warranty.

We went on vacation to Texas for about a week. When we came back, it was really warm in our home. Even though we can hear the AC unit was on, no air came out of the vents. So, we called Home Shield. Everything was straightforward. They assigned the job to this particular company. When we got ahold of them the next day, they scheduled it for the day after that. They came out a bit earlier than they had scheduled it for. But by the time they came out, for some reason, the AC started working. We thought maybe it was some ice stuck up there. But the gentleman that helped us went up there and looked. There was a small part in there that helps turn the AC on and off once it reaches a certain temperature, and he said that had gone bad. So, they replaced it, and everything works great now. The gentleman got it done real quick, and everything was good to go.
You need to make the purchase for a warranty, especially if it's your first home. Because when you buy your first home, you have your home insurance, which covers natural disasters, but warranties like American Home Shield cover all your mechanical things. It will definitely save you a lot of money in the future if something breaks down. My pay is a bit over $500 a year for it. And even though this is the only time I had to use them, it saved me a lot more money.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that is knowledgeable and able to explain what is going on. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.

I had a problem with the air handler in the basement for my air conditioner. I had the fire department here for it because a belt or motor burnt out. I requested for Maselli because I used them the last two times. They were good. They came out the next day and fixed it. They replaced everything and it was all done immediately. AHS should only send them any time I have a problem with my air conditioner because the guy prior to them was a shyster, shoemaker. The air conditioner is running great.
I have two air conditioners. I have a three-ton unit on the basement and first floor, and then I have a two-ton unit at the second floor of the house. I had a problem with the upstairs one in the spring. Maselli came out and fixed it. Since I started going in online and logging, my experience with AHS has been very convenient. The only downside is sometimes it takes a while for a contractor to get back to you. But since I dealt with Maselli for my last two experiences, they were very quick.

I used Big Kountry Appliance for two issues. One was related with my washing machine, and the other was related with my fridge. It was a good experience. They took longer than I was expecting for the initial appointment, but once they came into the house and they made the diagnosis, a week after, they solved them both. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield has been simple and good. They could improve on their response times though. Sometimes, the call center takes a while for them to respond. The webpage can be easier and faster, but the call center takes a lot for a claim to be processed. They could also recommend the best vendors. Sometimes in the past, they sent those vendors that are not too good. A couple years ago, they sent the same guy. He made like six visits for the same issue. After the sixth one, they sent another one who fixed it the first time he came.

American Home Shield is very responsive and they do what they say they will do. They explained the process and worked on the claims. I've had three claims since I've moved here and purchased this warranty and I'm very pleased with them. My basement flooded and they ended up declaring it a FEMA. We had so much rain that the groundwater got too high and flooded the basement. So American Home Shield covered the maximum for that event.
This summer, my AC stopped working and American Home Shield recommended somebody who couldn't come for a week. So I called AHS back and they tried to get them to come earlier. The company couldn't, so AHS gave me someone else who came right out within a day or two and repaired it. I've had three claims total in the three years that I’ve been here and I’ve had excellent responses.
My dishwasher stopped working. I wasn’t getting any water. I got a recommendation from American Home Shield for a repair. But I had to go out of town for two weeks, out of state, so we rescheduled it. A technician came and fixed it within 30 minutes. He had to replace the nozzle. He did a really good job and we were very happy. The dishwasher is running great now.

When the guy from Service Mechanical of Tidewater first called, he was asking me what the problem was. I told him that water was dripping from my sheetrock. I was a little frustrated because I felt like if one had water damage or something like a commode leaking, it shouldn't take 24 hours for anybody to come out, which was not his fault. But then when he came out, he was excellent. He had his face shield on.
The only thing I don't like with American Home Shield is the time that it takes for their contractors to come out. Since I bought this townhouse, I've had two water instances, and it's taken two to three days before the contractors even come and two or three days before somebody even calls me. I think that turn around when getting a little water should be faster. They answer right away and take my information right away. But then it is getting my claim done. When I'm doing a water, they could tell me if I broke something, and I'm waiting on them come for the refrigerator, there’s nothing I could do ‘cause I couldn't control the water. Then it was $500 when I started up with American Home Shield. This year, as I was looking at renewing, it's like $700 some.

The technician that AHS sent out to fix the AC was friendly, professional, and an overall good person. He just didn't come out and serviced the AC. He actually informed me about my filter and how often I should change them. He also gave me a quick tip about putting a box of baking soda inside my AC unit to keep fresh air circulating. He was a really good technician. Now, my son had to turn the AC down 'cause the house is getting so cold. It was an awesome experience. The claims submission is practically simple. I'm glad that I have American Home Shield and I'm gonna keep them.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

Naftel Heating and A/C was fantastic. On the other hand, Home Shield is really hard to talk to. It's extremely hard to make them understand anything and a lot of them are foreign and don't speak English very well. I'm very unhappy about that. Also, Home Shield has given me people that have not been good in the past. I had a home warranty with Sears, which is A&E, and Home Shield sent them out one time when I had a problem. But I didn't want them. I tried to make that clear, but I couldn't. But I told the woman I was talking to, if they would not let me use Naftel, I would cancel my subscription to Home Shield, and they did. He is a fabulous man.
My heating air has not worked very well for the 10 years that I've lived in this house, and it was brand new when I moved. It's perfect now. The tech did a great job. What he came out for this time was just my fall check. But he was the first one to ever figure out I had a bad compressor in my air. That's why it works so much better now. That's why wanted him. I am very satisfied because I picked the person. But I'm very dissatisfied by Home Shield. They made me pay for the Freon out of pocket. And the gentleman told me it's because it has become extremely expensive. The guy told me that Home Shield is the one that orders the Freon and compressor, so they could've let me know I would have to pay it because I needed it.
I had another man that came. He worked on my washer and dryer. Wonderful man. Did a great job and fixed it. I paid my thing, and I was told that from there on out, that was considered my responsibility, because what it was the drain in my washer was stopped up, and Home Shield said that's normal maintenance and I should have done that myself. One, how was I to know that? And two, he had to take the drawer out, crawl under the machine to get to the drain. I'm a single woman and that's not something I would even think about doing. I clean out the drain in the washing machine where I can see it, but the part underneath, no. I would never recommend Home Shield.

My refrigerator was not working. I put in a call to American Home Shield and put the claim in on September the 2nd. My refrigerator had already been out over the weekend. They assigned me to AJ’s Appliance, and they finally did call me. They didn't call me first. I initiated the contact. But then, they couldn't come out for another week and a half. I was going almost two weeks without my refrigerator.
When they finally did come out, the gentleman came in here and he just opened the refrigerator. He didn't take a panel loose. He didn't do anything. I didn't see him use any equipment at all. He said, “Oh, the control board on the refrigerator has gone out. We have to order one.” He just left. Then, he claimed that they had to wait for it to come from American Home Shield, instead of them ordering the part locally because we're here in Michigan. They said they had to order it from American Home Shield. American Home Shield has to send the parts to the contractor, and that causes a delay.
It took another week or so before the part came in. The guy came in and put the part in, and then told us we had to defrost our refrigerator. There was some coil in the back of the refrigerator that remains frozen because the freezer was over-freezing. The refrigerator wasn't working at all. We defrosted our freezer, took everything out, left the door open and let it thaw out really good. We lost a lot of food, and still we put everything back, turned it on, but the refrigerator was still not working. I called them back. They had a lot of excuses.
So, I called American Home Shield to complain about it. They sent a second contractor out, Lucas Appliance. At least, he came in here with tools. He took a panel board off in the refrigerator and he looked at it and he said, “Oh this is a problem with the coils. Unfortunately, our company does not do coil work.” He said, “You're gonna have to have a company come in that does coil work.” He put the panel back on there. We put everything back and he said, “I'm gonna let American Home Shield know that they need to send out another contractor.” In the meantime I'm calling, I've been now like three weeks without my refrigerator. I called American Home Shield back to see if they can expedite matters to get this done. It took days but they sent another contractor out CML Appliance. They're supposed to be the coil specialists.
When their guy came in, he said it's not a problem with the coil but a problem with the damper. I got three different diagnoses from three different companies. He said, “Now we have to order the part, blah, blah.” We've been waiting over a week for this part. I found out in a call to American Home Shield that the part was just ordered on the 6th. Today is the 8th, so this part was just ordered. They transferred me to the parts department. They said we don't have an order. Nobody ordered this part.
I kept calling yesterday. Chris, who is the owner of CML Appliance, said he was gonna contact his account manager over at American Home Shield to see if she could give them authorization to get the part here locally in Michigan where they get it quicker. I haven't heard from him. The business day is winding down. It was a horrible experience. American Home Shield's customer service department is terrible. There are long waits on hold. You're left on hold for an hour or more just to try to resolve an issue. Each time that I've had a problem, I've had to call and be put on hold. I have now spent hours on hold with American Home Shield. The follow-up is very bad as to making sure that these contractors are doing what they're supposed to do. Waiting for them to order parts is another problem. I'm totally dissatisfied.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

We had a door that we couldn't get shut. Then, it would seem like it was leaking water out that door because it wasn't shut solid. My husband said the guy from Ashley Appliance Service replaced the latch. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was very difficult. At the beginning, it was hard to get ahold of them. What happened was I had called in for a service call and they said, "Okay, let me set you up a ticket." They gave me a vendor that was an hour away from here, which is fine if they come here. But they said they could not be here for two and a half weeks. We're not going to go without our washing machine for two and a half weeks when we got our service. We've always had a home warranty service, and it would be reasonable for three days max. You call them and they call you, and then the third day, they're out here. Two weeks was not acceptable.
You're gonna have to call them and get a different vendor. My problem was trying to call and get connected to somebody to get a different vendor that could come sooner. I left messages twice on a recorded thing that said, "If you wanna leave your message, we'll call you back." I never got called back. It was on Monday when I started this. So finally, on Thursday, I got ahold of somebody. I got to really talk to somebody, and they gave me another vendor. He would be calling me that evening, and he did and he came the next day.
It took a week to get the confirmation on whether I was gonna get it fixed before the weekend. But I could never talk to anybody at American Home Shield. I kept getting recorded messages. Twice, they had said that, and I never got called back. But then, I finally got some nice young lady and she was able to help me and we did what we needed to do. The guy from Ashley was really good. He was nice, informative and professional. He was on time when he said he would be here and he was here. He was a good vendor. In fact, he said he has American Home Shield and he said they're a very good company.
I went through the billing department and I got immediate service when it was about my bill. I couldn't get a service when I wanted to get my work order. I kept getting messages. I never got to talk to anybody. But when I said, "Punch one, yes, about my billing," which it was a bill because of my concern which was upsetting to me. AHS charged me $100 on Monday, and I didn't get service until Friday. They took my money, but I couldn't talk to anybody. So I went through billing and the rep was able to help me just like if I went with somebody else. I went through an option that I shouldn't have had to because I should've been able to go with about my claim. Also, there was no option saying, "Vendors are needed to be reassigned. I need to reassign this. My vendor can't come help me." I had to go through an option that wasn't related to what I wanted just so I could get to talk to somebody.
I got my service. I got what I needed. But I don't think AHS should've charged me until somebody came and made my service. I don't think I should've had to pay them anything when I hadn't even talked to the vendor yet. That was a little upsetting. I've never paid for anything and not got anything in return. It took me five days to get something in return. So, I think that they took the money a little too soon.

I've had a lot of troubles with the dishwasher over the years. I have a Lowe's warranty on that also because I had trouble with American Home Shield fixing some things a couple years ago and I pretty much stopped using it. In this instance, I decided I'd use American Home Shield. The first guy that came out did a very good job. But it turned out there were some more profound problems that nobody realized existed. Within a couple of days or a week, there was a horrible smell coming from it. It wasn't draining. This guy came out and he was wonderful. He checked the little drain thing on the sink. He discovered that the pump was not working so he went down to Chula Vista to do other stuff, came back later with the pump and put the pump in.
The dishwasher is operating now. It's operating better than it's operated since I bought it so I gave him an A-plus. He was very good and extremely thorough. I told him he was the best person who's ever efficient for that dishwasher. He went way beyond the call of duty. He was investigating what other things might be going on. He wound up doing a whole bunch of things to the drain thing and also fixed the pump. It is draining and the dishes are cleaning just like when I got this dishwasher. I was ready to drop American Home Shield and just go with Lowe's ‘cause they also have a very good handyman who comes out. Because of him, I'm not dropping it. On something like this, my handyman couldn't have fixed it. I also like the fact that American Home Shield did get somebody out there really fast.

Jaleel kept us up-to-date and informed as to what was going on. He got the part and when he got in there, he found something else was wrong with the washing machine. Home Shield gave us $600 toward a new one.

I'm very upset with American Home Shield right now. I recently called to have some doors rekeyed and they told me they couldn't set up a service visit without my account being settled. They were saying I have an outstanding service fee of $100. But it isn't the case. They told me they were working it out. But it's been over a month since that issue arose. So, I couldn't get a service visit, and no one told me how they expected to resolve the issue. I'm really disenchanted right now.
The reason this happened is that right after I signed up for the service, I paid for it. But there was like a window where I could cancel. I called up to cancel and they transferred me to a unit. I think they do that to retain your membership. I never received my contract. I asked for a hardcopy, and I wasn't aware that each visit required the $100 fee, and I wasn't pleased with that. The customer service guy said, “How about this? I’ll waive the first service fee for you. Try it, and if you're unhappy, then cancel.” So, I let him talk me into it. I said, “Please, make sure you put that in your notes.” He said he would.
I scheduled the first visit because my handle on my stove wasn't functioning properly. Someone came out, and all he did was unplug the oven and plug it back in. I could then open the door, but I saw him feel my panel wasn't functioning properly. He told me he saw some moisture in the panel. He said to give it time to dry, and it should be okay. I'm still waiting on that. I don't know why he didn't go inside the panel and dry it out. I still can't use my panel properly though.
Not long after that, my air conditioning started blowing warm air. So, they sent out an air conditioning person, and he told me it wasn't my air conditioning. It was the electric fuse box. He said he would send an electrician to look at the box, and he did. The electrician fixed the fuse box which was just screwing some screws in, and it took less than 10 minutes. My air started producing cold air again.
They told me that there wouldn't be a service charge for the electrician because it was related to the air conditioning guy. So, they put on there zero service charge. But despite all that, I still don't have the use of the oven properly, and they're saying I owe $100. They waived it. So, I was responsible for only 100 and they took 200 from my account. Now, they won't let me get any service visits because they said they're working on it. That's been over six weeks now. I had to pay out of my pocket just Tuesday to get three locks rekeyed. I really didn't appreciate paying out of my pocket, but I needed the work done. I really let myself be talked into trying it, and now, I'm very unhappy with the service.
