AHS gives me peace of mind knowing that I have that insurance. I got to them some time ago and they had to repair my washer. I called over the phone and the reps I talked to were courteous. But the time frame of getting through to them is a problem. Then, the tech came right away and he found out what it was. He said he could repair that and he did that quickly. And I haven't had any problems since.

The washing machine wasn't going through the cycles. It was good to use the AHS website to file the claim. Then it took about 48 hours for the Martin's Appliance Repair to come out. Their technician was talking in Spanish but he showed me the part that was messed up. Then he contacted American Home Shield about getting an order and it took about a week to get it in. Now, the washing machine would go through the cycles and the clothes were clean.

American Home Shield has been good so far and I've been with them for less than a year. I called another claim for my garage, but I found out that this little surge protector was pushed out for some reason. The lights wouldn't come on in my garage and I canceled it. But it had been pretty good 'cause they stayed in communication with me.

I go online and submit a claim then a couple hours or so, American Home Shield will give me a call and let me know what company’s gonna be reaching out to me and schedule the date. I had issues with my AC unit, but it turned out to be a vent that needed to be replaced in the unit in my attic. The contractor was very professional. They answered all the questions we had and told us what we needed to do and how we could prevent things in the future.

Our pool pump failed and my husband put in a claim with AHS but they didn't send out the claim correctly to the company. My husband had to call back AHS to have them send out the correct information that he pushed a claim through. The company was able to do exactly what we needed them to do once they got the correct information. The contractors called us to let us know that they were on their way and how far they were. They got here on time and once they got here, they went out there and fixed the item. They did what they were supposed to do. My husband was satisfied.

AHS keeps doing the same thing of getting the incorrect information out and that's one of the things that kind of frustrates us. At one point, we had problems with getting the correct information out for a plumbing incident that we had. After having to go three plumbers, we came to find out that they couldn't replace or fix the item that they said that they could. Also, there was a refund that they were supposed to give us and they never did. I have thought about switching to another warranty agency.

Updated on 10/16/2020: I wrote a review on 10/11. I received a reply that someone would be willing to help me resolve the issue. I responded, yes, please, and asked how the person would like to connect with me on 10/13. Now, 3 business days later, still no reply. So now I am writing another review to try to get AHS to follow up on the same issue, again. I have been trying for over a month to get some help.

Original Review: We've had to call them numerous times to follow up on plumbers that did not fix our pipes. They charged us the $100 service fee immediately, and then closed our service request ticket many times, after we have called them to let them know that, NO our issue has not been fixed. The plumber they had sent looked at the pipes, said he needed to "follow up on a piece", and then refused to ever return any phone calls. Really just terrible, dishonest service. We feel very much cheated by this company after paying $500 for a warranty, and then $100 for a service, only to have them refuse to give any explanation or help, or resolve the issue in any way. We'll end up paying out of pocket for someone to help solve our plumbing issue, as AHS has proved to be useless.

We had been out of hot water for about two days before Plumb Genius could come out. They came out and they told us what was gonna happen. They needed to put a new hot water tank in, but it was gonna be like eight days till they could put it in. That was not gonna work because we hadn't taken a shower in two days and we weren't gonna go another eight days without a shower. I called AHS and asked them if I could use my plumber. I knew that my plumber could get it done in a quicker fashion and they did. They got it done the next day. They had to bring several things up to code and I paid the $1,600 bill. AHS authorized a $495 payment, which is a poor business dealing for a hot water tank and installation. And I have yet to get my $495. It's been about three weeks. I'm upset with AHS and I was disappointed with the dollar amount that they authorized.

Before the end of the day, American Home Shield had someone contact me to schedule an appointment for them to come out and look at the AC unit. The person they sent was wonderful. He was so professional, very considerate, and quick. He fixed the problem, and the whole thing was a great experience. I've had American Home Shield for eight years now, but I've only made one other claim and I don't have anything negative to say at all. I have recommended to friends, and they're happy too.

We had a leak in two of our showers. One didn't seem like it was putting out pressure, so we thought there was a slight leak. The technician fixed it, which had something to do with the shower knob so it was an easy fix for him. The other one looked like it was leaking from the wall. When he tried to take it off, he snapped off the showerhead, and then he ended up having to take a big chunk out of our wall and capping it off. The technician was very nice and apologetic about it. It still leaks somewhat, but we just went ahead and put a new nozzle on. Every now and then the showerhead drips water, but it's okay although I would’ve liked for the entire thing to be fixed.

Having American Home Shield makes you feel better that if something goes wrong, they'll take care of it. If we have a problem, I easily book it online and they promptly have someone assigned. I had two contractors. One was for the update of my heating system getting prepared for the winter and the other one was to do a repair of my air conditioner. Both my experiences were fine. However, on the one that was supposed to repair an issue that was malfunctioning, I ended up having to re-call them. They came out on Monday, spent 15 minutes and said I was good. I had to call them back on Wednesday because it wasn't done correctly and I still have the same issue. I'm in the process of waiting on them. When I called Wednesday and got a response, it went through and contacted the service department but I couldn't get an appointment until today, Friday. Needless to say, it's almost 85 degrees in my house which is unbearable especially when it's 88 degrees outside.

I have been with American Home Shield for over 10 years and at this present time, I'm not satisfied with them. If you're doing a follow-up or something that is not done correctly, that should be an emergency or there should be a way that you can get seen the next date. You shouldn't have to wait a couple of days in order to get the follow-up which was supposed to have been completed the day of. That's an inconvenience especially when somebody's paid. It's not like they have to wait on the money. The money is there. Also, I'd rather speak with someone when filing a claim but if you have to go through the prompts, it sometimes does not understand what you're saying or the prompts that you're putting in there so it causes some confusion. I had to hang up three times and start over. It wasn't as easy as it should be especially when you're doing something at night that you need somebody to respond to.

Submitting the claim to American Home Shield for the refrigerator was awesome. It was a four-door refrigerator from Samsung and it was a problem refrigerator because it had several air compressors but my freezer wasn't freezing. Sears came out three times and then, a Samsung representative came out because Sears said it was beyond their capability. The refrigerator was replaced and AHS gave me a good price, which was $2800. I decided to get the refrigerator that only has an icemaker and not worry about all the bells and whistles on it. Because the more you get on something, the more trouble you have. So, I went with a $1800 dollar refrigerator instead of a $2800, which is what they gave me though I paid more for the refrigerator I had. It worked out but I had to call the reps several times. They didn’t speak with me as far as keeping me updated.

I love the new refrigerator. Now that we have it, we noticed that the food and drinks are colder in this one than it ever was in that refrigerator when it was working. American Home Shield is quick and I appreciate them. It takes one or two days before I hear from somebody and if I don't, I call AHS and they give me the number of who to contact and so, I'm happy with all that. Also, I haven't had anything replaced. They've usually fixed things and they send out quality people. I have told people about AHS and they have switched from Choice. There's another one out there and they've switched to AHS too.

We had a refrigerator that went out and one was having a problem with the ice maker, and then the dishwasher. Cooper Appliances came out. The guy was nice. He said there was nothing that could be done with the dishwasher. It was just a bad dishwasher. The refrigerator inside with the ice maker had problems with the ice maker. And it was a constant problem with that brand of refrigerator. They won't fix the ice makers or recall them. And then, they did a quick fix on the refrigerator outside, which wasn't working. But it was something like a starter or some piece on it that starts the compressor. He did a quick fix on that. And then, they said they had to order a part for the refrigerator inside and another part for the one outside.

The tech jerry-rigged stuff until they could actually get it fixed properly, which helped me out because it gave me my refrigerator back until they got the correct part for it. They came back in about a week or so, when the parts came in, replaced the one on the outside with the correct part and then replaced a part of the icemaker in the refrigerator.

I called and told AHS about it. They called the plumbing company and set up an appointment. Nussbaumer Plumbing came out and I told them what was going on. They fixed it and stopped it from running. Two days later, I had to have AHS send somebody out to check my furnace before I started turning it on, to do a safety check, and that worked out well. The only complaint I have is that for those two visits, it cost me $175, plus my monthly payment that I’ve been paying every month for years. I feel as though that plan, $175, neither one of the companies wasn’t here for an hour. It should be lower. That’s ridiculous for it to be that high. But then I’m glad I have a house plan so if anything goes wrong.

I went online, put the request in, put my account information, and they took it from there. They assigned someone to come out. Then they called us and scheduled the repair. Then they came out and fixed it. All in all, AHS has been fine for me.

We called up AHS the first time and the guy came out, checked the system. He cleaned out the drain and said it was okay. When I came home about a week or two later, I decided to change the filter on it. Then I noticed water was coming down onto the filter. So I called AHS again and had them send the contractor out again. The second guy that came out found out exactly what the problem was. Then he sent some other guys out who had to completely take out the coils and clean them. But it's working fine now. The three different guys I dealt with were all good. They were very courteous and told me exactly what they were gonna do and how they were gonna do it. They also told me if I had any questions, I had 30 days from the time they fixed it and that I could call them if I had any problems. They’ll come back out and take care of it. Everything was good with them. AHS has been taking care of me pretty good.

When Precision Door came, they were efficient and very professional. My husband dealt with them and he was very pleased. So that was all good. It was easy submitting the claim. I am a Realtor and when I bought the policy for myself, I was told that for X amount of extra money, I can also add to my policy something for the electronics in our house. Whether it was computers or stereo or speakers, it would be covered by the policy if they went out. So I added that to what I ordered. As soon as we moved in, the speakers went out in the house. I called American Home Shield and they said I have to call another number. So I called that number and they said, “Oh, well, this policy doesn't go into enforcement until 30 days after you've lived in the house.” Then I found out that the speakers and the stereo weren't covered at all. So the policy was a waste of money. I should have never bought it in the first place. But it does cover lightning strikes.

When you call and you’re making inquiries and getting ready to buy the policy, the people that answer the phone are not well enough informed and they're giving out wrong information. I have had a client who had a frustrating experience with American Home Shield. They had a really hard time getting somebody out so they kept calling me as the agent and I did everything that I could do. So I'm feeling leery about encouraging people to buy the policy because when things don't go right for them, then all of a sudden I become the intermediary having to make calls and trying to get things checked.

For our most recent claim, we had a door to a washer that was broken. The hinge was broken. The claim was easy to submit. We've had Brooks Appliance in the past and they're not our favorite repair person. They're a bit slow about doing the work, or when you tell them what is wrong. They knew exactly before they came what was wrong. And we were like, "Well, you can just order the part." They had us to submit the picture, but they still came out and took two weeks to order the part when I had already explained it and they saw the picture. Also, it took a process for this person to come out. And it took two people to come out and do it. You put the hinge and then the screws. It wasn't a hard process. They were not the best people for a repair. Other than that, the door now works great.

Our stove was broken and the tech that Home Shield sent out brought the wrong stove. We have gas but they brought an electric. The sockets were not convertible. It was a different kind of plug. It took two or three months. We kept calling Home Shield and following up, but they made sure that we got the correct stove. They ended up making sure that we got the product that we needed for our house. Doing business with Home Shield has been good.

The only other complaint I have is, I know they like to make sure that the thing is fixed, but as soon as this person leaves the house, they close the ticket. You end up reopening it. For instance, the ice maker on our freezer broke in March. We put a claim in, and that was right around the COVID time. Brooks came out three times to fix it but they couldn't get it fixed. Home Shield kept closing the ticket, and then they said it was fixed, but it wasn't. And then after that, they sent two other companies to come, but it still wasn't fixed. And then, the COVID happened. So, it was July before it ended up getting fixed. One person came out twice, and then they got a person from Sears to actually fix it. That's another thing. If something goes wrong and you let them know, they would send out four different companies to do it, but they keep closing the tickets. If they close it but it was still wasn't fixed, we had to pay another fee for contractors to come out.

The heater was making some odd noises whenever we would turn on the hot tub. It really was concerning to me, so I called Home Shield and talked to them about it. They said that they'd send some folks out to look at it. Platinum Pool Care contacted me shortly thereafter, and then we set up a good time for them to come by to look at my system.

I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield and would recommend the service. People should just make sure that they read through the actual agreement so they know exactly what is covered and what isn't. I ran through an issue last year where I was having hot water issues, and so I called. They had sent someone out to look at the hot water heater. They could not determine what the issue was, so I had to go back to Home Shield and have them send out another assessment specialist. They never found the issue. So, there was some back and forth on whether they were gonna charge me another $75, but it was really the same issue that didn't get resolved. I'd tell others that there are certain things that the warranty covers and things that it doesn't. And if it wasn't the water heater that was bad and if it was something going on with the pipes, I was told that it wasn't covered.

The claim for the heater was good. It's been fixed and we are very happy with that. Besides that, the gas did not start and they showed us how to start it. However, the current SR has been going on for a while. We have opened it on October 1st or 2nd. It was the issue about the stoppage. There is a leakage in the restroom for the sink. It has been assigned to some other plumber and they did not show up. Then it has been reassigned to Honest Plumbers. They came and fixed the stoppage but did not fix the leakage. They said the description they had was not matching.

I talked to American Home Shield, and again, they talked to Honest Plumbers. One technician was here for five minutes and said the faucet has to be replaced then he was gone. We thought that he would come and fix it. I talked to American Home Shield again as well as with Honest Plumbers and nothing has happened. Yesterday, I figured out that it seems like if I open a new case, at least things can go fast. I've requested them to fix it because we have only two restrooms in the house and we are seven people. I requested them to open a new case and assign Honest Plumbers. That's what they did and I'm waiting for their call. But this is just maybe a communication gap. The response from American Home Shield is very good and I'm happy with the service.

When we purchased the home, our realtor said she was going to get us a home warranty. We've purchased several homes over the years and you get a home warranty but it's completely useless. We rarely used them or when we did use them, we didn't get very good service. I started researching online and American Home Shield, by far, had the best ratings. I told her that I wanted to go with them. We got our first year taken care of then I re-upped again here in September to do another year. We'd definitely recommend them and I've written several reviews and said just that. In fact, I had somebody from American Home Shield write me an email saying that he was very impressed with my review.

We had a problem with the water to the fridge and the garbage disposal and the contractors were excellent. They've come out and have been very professional. They wore masks. I thought we had everything done. I put in new air conditioners. I walked out two days later and the water heater burst. It still cost me 850 to get the water heater put in on top of the 75 that I paid but thank God for American Home Shield. To have American Home Shield be so good, we felt very lucky.

I just bought the home in August. I had not even stayed a week and used the dishwasher a couple of times. I had noticed once that there was some water on the floor. The next time I felt it, there was water all over the floor and it would not go out. Action Appliances came out and they were out of Russellville which is out of town. They were great. The guy told me that it was an older unit and the motor had locked up. He recommended replacement.

The home warranty company told me that they went through Home Depot to order me a unit which was okay. That is supposed to be delivered next Tuesday but they're not using Action Appliance. They've got it outsourced to somebody else now. I don't like having all of these different contractors coming out. I was happy with Action Appliance. They're an authorized GE repair company. The guy was very thorough and explained everything to me. Now, I've got somebody else that I don't know that's gonna be coming to my home. I really would like to have had one company that would be good to service so I can get to know them, know their work and I am comfortable with them.

It's confusing because why do they not use the same appliance repair people? I've also got another outstanding service on my refrigerator because that thing is leaking water out of the freezer. It took a week to get through. Every time I have called in, I would be on hold for like an hour and 20 minutes before I could get in touch with somebody.

A plumber said that my shut-off valves were stuck open but when he did it, it shut off the water. I was trying to figure out about the ventless dryer but the technician said he couldn't look at the vents because I'm in a condo. Then he asked me about the settings and checked it all out. Everything was good. The technician was friendly and very thorough. I’ve lived in the condo for two years and I haven’t ever had it maintained. So, I wanted to make sure that everything was good and the water wasn't stuck open. Everybody I've gotten from American Home Shield is very knowledgeable.

I've had a bunch of problems with my freezer. It's a built-in Viking, so I hired someone. They gave me an estimate and then, it didn't leak for three months again. The drain vent freezes up and then all the water, when the vent automatically defrosts, goes out the front. So, they installed a heater into the freezer so now it works good. I love working with American Home Shield because they're super-efficient and quick. I have a refrigerator guy and he doesn't work on the Mieles because it's German so AHS always sends out someone who knows what's going on with that specific model or brand.

After that extended wait time being on hold and waiting for a representative, I went ahead and tried the online thing. Then the contractor called me the very next day and set up an appointment. The appointment was just a few days out. Then on the day of the appointment, they sent a reminder and the plumber showed up on time. The job was bigger than he thought it was so he had to come out again. But it was the very next day and he was able to get everything taken care of. It has been great. But now, the faucet is dripping. That wasn't part of the initial work order. So I'm gonna have to place another call to have somebody come out and fix that.

I also had a work order in for my refrigerator and the company that Home Shield contracted with called me and said that it would be a couple of weeks before they were able to come out. Automatic Control Corp was very nice and quite prompt to the appointment time. The air conditioning had been off the whole weekend. So we were kind of anxious about it. When they got here, the analysis was that we had a shorted wire in the communication line between the outside unit and the fan inside. In other words, the air conditioner itself was capable of making the air cold, but it wasn't circulating. They fixed it. It ran when they left and we were very pleased. They did not charge us beyond the $100 service that we paid American Home Shield.

In less than 24 hours after they left, the whole thing didn’t work again. They left one of their business cards and I called them. Mark said they saw some mildew on the fan and that was gonna have to be cleaned. It’s a $250 charge. So I thought about it for a minute and then I sent him a text so I have it in writing. I sent him a text sort of looking for some sort of guarantee after having not 24 hours of success. I wanted some reassurance that my 250 bucks was gonna make this work or what they were gonna do. But I never even got a response to that. It was left hanging.

American Home Shield's air conditioning coverage was inadequate. I called our previous air conditioning service guy and he came over within an hour and a half. It was pretty busy here in South Florida for air conditioning but he was very cooperative. He said the problem was the condensation the air conditioning creates, which evacuates to the outside, is all plugged up. This is a pretty common eventuality here in South Florida. He took care of it while I was here. He charged me 100 bucks and the thing has been working fine since.

Our garbage disposal was not working, and a clog occurred because of that. So, there was a huge leak. It was leaking all out from underneath my kitchen cabinets. Because of Home Shield's 24 to 48 hours for someone to respond, we were without a kitchen sink for a week. The technician came out from Patriot Plumbing two days after I reported it, and replaced the garbage disposal and said that he didn't have a snake that was long enough to dislodge the clog and they would have to get back with us. The garbage disposal that they took out was a very nice garbage disposal with a horsepower, but they replaced it with a half horsepower. We weren't pleased with the product that they replaced.

What they wanted to do was install a cleanout trap so that they wouldn't have to go under the house. Lo and behold, they wouldn't talk to me. They said that only Home Shield could talk to me about the quote for what they wanted to do in order to get our sink working again. So then, Home Shield got back with us. Meanwhile, a week had passed without a kitchen sink and they wanted $1,400 to install this trap that we have never had any other plumber tell us we needed. We've had clogs in the past. So, we called another plumber, paid for out of our pocket, after paying Home Shield service call plus the rather large amount we pay every month to have them. And this plumber came out, had the clog unclogged in 15 minutes. He was in and out of here, and for $125. We would have been out $1,400 on top of what we pay Home Shield each month plus the $100 service fee.

When the appliance people came in, they told me that they couldn't take my refrigerator apart because something was wrong with the valve that connects the water to the refrigerator so then I needed a plumber. I used my American Home Shield and they sent out the guy from J-Star. He was really good. He came out and looked at the problem. He didn't have what he needed on the truck so he ran to Home Depot. In about two minutes, he was back, fixed the problem and we were good to go.

Filing a claim with American Home Shield is very simple. You just kinda click what you need and keep it moving. I enjoy the experience. They do a fantastic job. American Home Shield is one of the better warranties to get especially when you first buy a home. It's a convenience thing. You don't have to keep looking for things and plumbers and everything else 'cause it seems like when you purchase a home, everything that can go wrong does go wrong within the first couple of months of you living there.

Contractors came out a couple of times here. The first time they did, I had to pay $300 for the Freon. Home Shield doesn't cover that. The last time they came out, I thought this pipe was for the AC, but it wasn't. I thought the AC was only supposed to be out here dripping. So, I wasted my $75 for that because there was nothing wrong. The tech told me that it's not part of the AC. He went up in the attic and told me he didn't know what that was.

Recently, the overflow pipe outside on my back porch was flooding. There was water continuously all over my back porch. I called that in and it was easy. They told me the contractor would be here between 12:00 and 1:00. They were here before 12:00. The tech from Water and Drain Works was very professional. He told me what was wrong and he had to go back and get a part. There's no water on my patio. I didn't like the experience with my AC. But the water heater was a great experience.

They had their mask and they tried to stay back while they were talking. They backed off when I opened up the door and had a good distance away from me. They did everything they were supposed to do. We’ve used AHS a couple of times now and they've been real good. When I thought the garbage disposal was going out on me, they got somebody lined up to come out here. The only thing I can squawk about is that you pay an arm and a leg for the service calls half the time. The guy who came out for the garbage disposal did a good job but it was a $100 service. You can buy a brand new garbage disposal for that.

The first guy from Dempsey Oil who came here was a scam, con artist, rude, and inconsiderate. I thought we were never gonna that company again. But after talking to American Home Shield and finding out that Dempsey has been in business for a very long time, and it was one bad apple, I said that I could give them another chance. Dempsey Oil said they let go of that employee that we had issues with. Since then, they sent a nice gentleman to my home who actually helped me with my plumbing issues. So even though it was a nightmare of an experience to begin with, it ended up being a pleasant experience after it was all said and done. The guy told me he fixed what he could, and unfortunately, under American Home Shield’s policy, there were some things they couldn't do. It's my contract. I had to hire a different plumber on my own for some other stuff.

When calling American Home Shield, I'm on hold for two hours. Off the bat, when people come here, they're already in bad energy because of the whole experience working for American Home Shield. They seem really annoyed because they're on hold for two hours before they come here, and then when they come, they have to assess everything. Then they have to be on hold for another two hours to get permission for everything and more time has to go by. Then they have to get permission to come back and fix things. American Home Shield seems not to approve a lot of items. It’s not really the best warranty company in the world because there's just a lot of red tape.

A lot of things they told me that were covered for my home aren't covered. There were things that they promised and guaranteed me when we paid for the services, later on, they denied. I paid an extra $175 to have a water pump be warrantied. But when they called for it, they told me it wasn't covered. I asked them why and they said it was electrical. The pump was working, but electricity was getting to it that was why I paid extra money. However on top of that, I have electrical in my contract.

It seems like there's little loopholes for everything. Every time someone comes, they're always charging more money and up-charging. They call it “enhancements”. It also seems that American Home Shield get a lot of workers who are just starting up as a company, or have a hard time getting business, so at the beginning, they think it's a way to get customers. But soon, they find out that it's just a lot of aggravation. It just puts the customer and the worker coming in in a really odd position 'cause it's American Home Shield’s fault for having a system like that. I'm a first time homebuyer and I moved somewhere far away. I was kinda scared to move far away so I thought it was a good way to have a little bit of protection for my home. But it's a learning experience. I'm not gonna sign up with them again next year.

My experience with submitting a claim with AHS is okay. But the $100 is a lot for a service call to me. Also, some things aren't covered under there like they should be. For instance, when you're going to get a stopped up toilet, you got to pay for them to lift the toilet from the ground. I don't appreciate that after paying all these years of American Home Shield. It's not the best. But for the most part, they're pretty good. The contractors that came recently for the AC were very professional. He said he checked in the air came on and the heat came on, but when I tried to turn the air conditioner on yesterday, I couldn't get the thermostat to turn off. I might have to put another order in.

I filed two claims, one for AC, one for faucet repair. Both declined because of the MANY EXCEPTIONS in the contract. The AC would have been repaired... but only if I paid $3,000 for new refrigerant. I found out from a friend who does HVAC work that their company pays about $200 for the same amount of new refrigerant. The faucet repair was declined because the service contractor provided incorrect information. The plumbers would not talk to me and they wouldn't even answer the phone when American Home Shield called them. I spent 3 weeks calling American Home Shield to ask for a second opinion and kept getting the run-around.

Also HORRIBLE customer service. Every time you call them, expect to be on the phone for over an hour... most of that time on hold... then you get to talk to people in India or Pakistan. They don't care what you say. They just read to you from a computer screen. Want to speak to a supervisor? Nope. IMPOSSIBLE. The worst customer service I've ever experienced with any company.

Their website is very slick and makes it appear that everything is covered. LIES. Read the contract very carefully before signing up and you will see for yourself. They have so many exceptions to coverage that they rarely approve anything. And the service contractors hate dealing with American Home Shield because it takes a long time for them to approve a claim and they rarely approve anything anyway. I will save my $60 each month so I can pay for services myself. This is nothing but a scam. Don't fall for it like I did.

At the beginning of August 2020 I called AHS for an issue with standing water in the sewer line that is originated from laundry room. Brick Street company was dispatched and tried to unblock the standing water. They stopped the work, stating that cannot be determined what is causing the blockage because they cannot see behind the standing water - the pipe being either broken or blocked. The plumber stated that he needs a camera in order to determine the nature of blockage. So, while the determination of standing water could not be made, AHS closed the case and denied the compensation on the reason that inside the sewer line are foreign objects - which was in contradiction with what Brick Plumbing stated. In fact the Brick Street Plumbing did not complete the job they were required to do.

Further, I asked AHS to get another company for a second opinion. The second plumbing company came - United Air Temp, that did their investigation as well. This time, the standing water was easily removed with a vacuum and plumber could plainly see, within 1 foot from the finished floor, within the house foundation, that the pipe elbow is broken and need replacement. The issue that I am having now is with AHS honoring the claim. The pipe that is collapsed or broken inside the main foundation is covered in the contract but the way the response is handled is very unethical as follow:

    - I was waiting AHS to contact me in regards to new findings, this did not happen, I had to call myself for the status and resolution.
    - It's extremely difficult to get customer service on the phone, waiting time is few hours.
    - Official reasons for claim denial are not given, on my account page there are no answers provided for the claim - but I learned from different answers given to me in occasions that the claim is actually denied for "foreign objects" like mud and rocks. Mud and rocks are a result of pipe being broken, as the United Air Temp representative explained to me.

    - In extreme rare occasions when managers are get on the phone, their responses are contradictory: one manager, extremely rude and arrogant, told me that the claim is denied because foreign objects were found inside, like toilet paper and a letter for these findings will be sent to my address, letter that never came; another told me that indeed I am justified to be reimbursed but is not up to him, he will send his report to other department and definitely will call me back - and in fact never did.

I found the relationship to AHS being extremely difficult to be maintained and refusals for rejection are made by the minute, every time a different one from each manager I got in contact with, after hours of waiting.

I called AHS when the oven wasn't working. They said it’d be about 10 days for somebody to come out. Sears came, looked at it and they fixed it. It worked for a while but the thing threw a fit again. The last time that the tech came, he was calling and trying to get parts. AHS told him that they would send him a part, but they didn't have the other part. He told them that there was no sense in sending one part because it was not gonna work if they don't have both parts. They had this conversation back and forth. They did send a part, so it still didn't work.

AHS then sent out Anderson's. I personally have dealt with Anderson's long before I got involved with AHS and I've always got great service out of them. They had fixed my dryer and my dishwasher in the past and I never had a problem. They come out, they do their work, and they leave. When Anderson's got involved with it, the tech sent in a request for the parts that they needed, and they sent him the parts. He then came out, put them in and that was the end of that story. Everything works fine. My life is a whole lot simpler now.

The people that came out from Sears were really nice folks. But one of the comments that was said was, "We're not accustomed to working with high-end stoves like this and I don't know why they send us out here anyway." But with the guy from Anderson's, I've had him do different things for over eight years and he doesn't give a damn what you have him fix. He fixes it and that's the end of it.

Initially, the tech that they assigned to me, WCU, wasn't going to be able to come out for a week, so Icalled someone in to come and do a diagnosis on the fridge to see if I could just pay out of pocket. But because it's going to be $900, I wound up calling WCU back and having them come out to do a diagnosis. Unfortunately, it looks like there are two things that are wrong with the fridge. So, I'm still waiting for it to be fixed because they've had to order another part. Other than that, AHS has been fabulous. When the techs replaced the part that they initially thought was wrong and the fridge wasn't working the next day, I had to call and have AHS reopen the work order. And that was very quick. They took care of it and apologized for the inconvenience.

It was the third time they have come out since we moved into our house and hopefully this time they got it fixed. When we first moved in, the AC didn't work, so they came out and put Freon in it. The AC was frozen. They had to wait for it to thaw and they had to put Freon in it. The next time they came out the blower went out on our smaller AC unit and then this time, our AC stopped working because the coil had a leak
    .

When we were trying to find somebody to rekey our house, Home Shield kept assigning it to the same person and that person would never get back to us. And then finally, I had to call and argue with them. They let me pick my own person. We've had some rough patches with Home Shield, but so far, it has been okay. We like the service.

I did a claim for the garage door opener and it was easier than I thought. The contractor was a really great guy. He even told me that if I had a problem, I could give him a call and he'll come back and adjust it. But there hasn't been a problem. It works fine. Home Shield's service is really good. My claim was handled in less than 24 hours. I called it in around 4:00 and a guy was here the next day in the morning. So I was very impressed. It was done professionally and that's what counts.

The contractors that came for the plumbing issue fixed the immediate problem. They had to replace the sensor element because the heater keeps going out. However, he said he was concerned because he doesn't know if how long that fix is gonna stay in place because the heater is old. He said he could already tell that it's filling up with some form of particulate. Because whenever the heater comes on and the water starts churning, there's like a cracking and popping sound going on a lot. But their job was to come out and just fix. He said that they were going to recommend that it gets replaced because the heater is pretty much on its last legs. But for their professionalism and everything they came out to do, he was absolutely fantastic.

I'm feeling good about the service of American Home Shield for the most part. I was a little disheartened only for the fact that the contractors said they were going to recommend a replacement. Because they have no doubt that they're going to get called out again very soon about it. But I was really expecting from everything he told me to possibly have it replaced. But overall I am satisfied with American Home Shield just on this particular incident. I'm just right now waiting for the heater to fully go out again.

I’m military. We also have people routinely come out and they give us free inspections on our appliances. But for the HVAC system, called twice for separate repairs and we've had a call for the microwave twice that has gotten repaired and then replaced. The warranty has been very beneficial knowing that everything is covered for the most part and that it's gonna be a lot cheaper to pay the $100 for the servicing fee and $80 a month as opposed to multiple thousands of dollars for appliance repair.

The igniter on our stove cooktop wasn’t working on any of the burners and we didn't know the make of it because it was not anywhere on the top of the cooktop. So, we assumed that it was Whirlpool because our oven was a Whirlpool. Sears came out and the technician took the cooktop out to where he could finally find out which brand it was. It was a Deco. He was on time but it wasn’t a brand that they would work on. American Home Shield sent a different company who came out at about six o'clock last night. Even though the Sears’ guy has taken a picture of what brand it was and the model number, and sent it to American Home Shield, the guy who came out did not have the right part. So he was going to order it today and then contact us. He figured maybe Tuesday next week.

I'm a Realtor so I work with a representative through American Home Shield, not on a daily basis, but so I feel comfortable. If there are any issues, I usually can go through her and get them resolved. That's normally for my clients and this is the first time we've had one through her for our personal home. I usually recommend AHS to most of my home buyers. But when purchasing a warranty, it’s always a question as to whether whatever is wrong is gonna be covered. Because if it's broken, you never know what the cost involved will be to repair it or whether it will be covered. I have the information that AHS sent but as far as when we initiate the claim, not knowing what’s gonna be involved with the repair, there's nothing they can do on that because we wouldn't know ahead of time.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and they responded back very quickly and had it all taken care of. It was for the icemaker in my fridge, my dishwasher and my microwave. So far, it appears everything is working functionally and everything's good. Michael, the guy who came, was wonderful. He explained everything in detail to me and repaired the icemaker. It’s working but the water is coming out slower. I haven't implemented what he wanted me to add to my wash for the washing machine though because my dishwasher still smells. He said to use Lemi Shine. When I add that, it's going to improve.

We got referred to American Home Shield by a friend and that referral was supposed to give ourselves as well as our friend a $25 Amazon card, and that has not occurred. I haven't called AHS to follow up on it because I don't wanna be on hold for 25 minutes. It's easy to submit a claim online. It’s quick and painless but if you call in, it’s a 25-minute wait, and they don't give the option for a callback. I tried twice and both times, it was over a 25-minute wait. It said it would exceed 25 minutes so it could have been 45 minutes. I didn't have the time to sit on hold so I just hung up. That is something I'd love to address with them. It is something they can probably improve on and they can do that. I know other places do it.

American Home Shield is very timely in terms of the online submission for a claim and the company that they utilized was efficient. They didn't just come out and repair the problem but also gave suggestions or solutions. I've never experienced that with any other warranty company so that was a good thing. The technician seemed knowledgeable. It was a good experience. I've had times in the past where the technicians come out and they looked at me like I was speaking a different language when I told them what was going on with the problem. That doesn't give you a lot of confidence that it's going to get resolved if they don't even know. They act like it's foreign to them.

I got some information from American Home Shield and went with it. The service with them was great. I had my water heater replaced and the dishwasher fixed. Those happened too close at the same time. After making a claim for my dishwasher, it was close to a week to get the service scheduled and that was okay. There's only me so I can live without a dishwasher for a little while. Besides, my dishwasher still worked. I just had to work on prying it open because it would get stuck. Conner's Appliance came out and they were fine. They had masks too. They looked at the dishwasher, ordered the parts then came back and fixed the dishwasher. The tech worked on it a bit and said that he didn't need some of the parts so he was gonna take them back. I would get a refund or not have to pay as much.

We live in a very remote area and one of the things that we're encountering is that people are having a hard time getting parts to our area. Poletski's came quickly, but it took them a month or more to get all the parts that were needed to repair all the appliances. Their repairman is exceptional and nice though. The only concern is the timeline, but I don't blame Poletski's and COVID because they couldn't get the parts quickly enough. They were great in terms of what they were doing, but they were hampered by the situation of the world and parts coming in time.

However, I have two other service calls that are still in the process of resolution with American Home Shield. One is interesting, and I'd like to request American Home Shield shield to follow up on it again. We had a locksmith order. They called to follow up on it, and I let them know that the job had never been finished. They said that they were gonna finish the job. We learned that the front door lock was a different brand than all of the other locks in the house, so while the locksmith was able to provide the key, he wasn't able to make the entire house one key. He was supposed to return and sell me at a premium a replacement for the automatic door lock that he wasn't wasn't able to key in the same fashion.

I ordered it and said I would pay $100 for him to bring a new electronic lock that was of the right brand so it could be made part of the key family, and he was thwarted by fire. He did a great job of calling me in August saying he lived in the Bay Area and couldn't come to Northern California due to the fires, which I understood. I asked him to come early next month when the fires are over and when it's safe but he never returned. I've never heard back from him either and I haven't had the time to track down his number and try and call him to get him to come back. Meanwhile, one of the doors and handles that he had rekeyed for us, if you turn the key and turn the handle at the same time then the handle of the door falls off. It's almost impossible to put it back, so that is not wonderful.

The worst experience I've had, though, is still ongoing and that is related to my furnace. We're waiting for a replacement to physically arrive. The first time I called in the furnace, it took a week for them to come. We also spent one week waiting on the second call. Now the third time, there was a delay in the authorization of the replacement. That process has been extraordinarily painful. Fortunately, they were able to order a furnace, but due to parts availability, from the approval to the installation, I'm still waiting. The heating company called and scheduled it for this coming Thursday. Today is Monday. The company said, "If the furnace comes quicker, we'll come quicker."

I understand that I'm in a rural place with a limited number of service people, but I don't understand why it's considered acceptable for there to be a one week delay in coming to see what's wrong with a furnace when it stops working. I've never lived in a home that didn't have heat like this. While I appreciate that American Home Shield is replacing the furnace, I am horribly disappointed over the timeframe that it has taken on every one of the repairs and the fact that we've had no heat in the home for almost two plus weeks. I find that horrific. I have two children in the house and one of them is a two-year-old.

The other experience I had with American Home Shield is interesting as well. The main water connection coming into the house failed and that was deemed not covered because it was outside of the foundation. It's surprising that a repair that rendered the house with zero water was not covered, but then I had the plumber unclog a toilet while he was here. With some machination over the fact that it wasn't the original work order, I could at least get a refund for the toilet work that got done even though I paid $400 out of pocket for the water main that comes into the house.

I have had three calls that didn't work right and two calls that did. Frankly, I still think American Home Shield offers good value. I fully intend on renewing and want to find out how to renew and buy 10 years of coverage from them because it's worth it, given repairing something like a furnace or heat. I have a 30-year-old building I bought and there's a lot of stuff that's broken. If there was any other provider that would charge the same amount of money and perform better though, I would leap.

I recently had a re-key with American Home Shield and it was easy. The contractors messaged me through text messaging. They came when they said they would. The guy was real helpful, was in and out in 30 minutes. It was really nice. I bought the home and American Home Shield was part of what the seller purchased for us. We thought everything was included and everything was working when it was done. Then, the week before we took possession of the home, ‘cause we did a leaseback for a few days, the previous owner messaged me to tell me that the garage door broke.

When I called AHS, I explained that I thought the garage door was included but they told me that it wasn't in the package. I upgraded the package and then was asked on the call, “Do you want to put a claim in on the garage door?” I said, “Yes. If I can, that would be great.” They said, “Sure.” They went to do it and then learned that, “Oh, you can't because you didn't have this in place when you called about the garage door,” which they knew in the beginning of the call. The lady tried to help me to see if they would make any exceptions but they wouldn't. Now I'm out-of-pocket on a garage door I thought was covered, but was not. I was disappointed and frustrated. It should have been clearer that even after upgrading that I couldn't get the service. I might have waited to upgrade it.

I have another company back in Mississippi that we're using and the experience with American Home Shield has been better than that one. American Home Shield was far superior in the ability to file a claim and get feedback on it. They were very nice about it. We could pay the $100 deductible online immediately and we don't have to worry about that kind of stuff when the contractor comes to the house. For the other one, we had to do something different than that. If I were to recommend, I would recommend American Home Shield.

I called Home Shield and the rep did a good job. She gave me a time and date when to expect the contractor, and then, Barker Services called me. They set up an appointment, told me they couldn't make it until a certain day, and they showed up and showed up on time. The guy was respectful, professional, did the job, and did a great job and left. Excellent guy. There was a broken plumbing pipe. He fixed that and did all the plumbing, and then fixed the toilet, and installed all that. It was leaking for months. Now, there are no more leaks. I checked it on several occasions. I would definitely recommend Home Shield use Barker more often.

The only thing is, the experience is sometimes great. And then sometimes, the only overwhelming issue is sometimes getting someone on the phone. And then staying on the phone waiting, and then having to explain over and over what's going on. With this issue of the plumbing, before Barkers came, they called someone else. And that company was trying to soak me for an additional money. This is why I recommend someone else to come out. Barkers was professional about it and fixed the issue, whereas the other people that Home Shield had was an hour plus away. And then when they got here, their assessment was totally different than what I knew what was wrong with it, versus Barkers'. When they came out, they were in agreement with me versus those other plumbers that Home Shield used out of town.

In addition, Barkers' equipment was professional, whereas the other people, "Yeah. Oh, I gotta go back, and I didn't bring this tool or that tool." And then it took a lot of my time up because I had to take off work. That was an issue for me. I would not use those guys. My personal recommendation is to use someone in town that's closer because when Home Shield sent those other ones, they had to leave, and then they can't come until the end of the week. They're an hour and a half away so it made the process longer and more difficult. Other than that, the last lady from Home Shield that helped when I called in and told her what was going on was really helpful.

They give you the option to make your own appointment. But I'm one of these people that believe if I pay for a service, you're gonna do the work. So, I made them choose the provider that would take care of the issue. It was a bit of a problem getting the people over here. They had to reschedule because they had a major issue. However, they were very professional and fixed. They had to order a part and it was all done. The contractor was very good. He was very polite and he kept me informed. He apologized that he couldn't come the day that happened. There was some major issue with wiring. He apologized, followed up, ordered the part and got it fixed. Home Shield is better than Select Home, however, more expensive. But sometimes, you have to pay a little more to get a little better.

Appliance Service was assigned by AHS to come out for the refrigerator and it was more than a week before they could get to the refrigerator. Then, it was reassigned to another company because I had another appliance that failed within the week. The oven control board went out. AHS assigned both appliances to Sears. Sears came out and fixed the stove within two days of being assigned. They diagnosed the problem, found a repair part, and installed it. I asked about the refrigerator and this technician said Sears has different technicians for different areas. For the refrigerator, it had to be a refrigerant-certified technician. Sears was three weeks out just to get someone out to look at it.

I called American Home Shield back on that and it was a 40-minute wait time to talk to another customer rep. They reassigned it to Samsung and when I called the number that they provided for Samsung, all I got was a dropbox. I called that number twice and I got the same thing. And I never received a call back for them so I think they don't do repairs. Eventually, I talked to the customer rep and it was reassigned to the original company.

The tech came out within two days to take a look at it. They diagnosed the issue and said it was unrepairable. They reported it to AHS and they sent me an email. I applied for the e-card from Home Depot and I ordered a new refrigerator. But due to the virus, there's a huge delay in shipping. It was difficult getting a contractor assigned and talking to customer service but AHS did exactly what they were supposed to do. They troubleshot my equipment, found it couldn't be repaired, and provided an avenue for a replacement.

The one that stands out the most for me was a problem with my air conditioner. The guy was here for three seconds and left. Then they told me they wouldn't cover it. My wife accidentally broke the microwave and it wouldn't shut therefore we couldn’t use it. She put a claim in with American Home Shield and a technician came out a few days later. He was with Apex Appliance and he was professional. He knocked it out in a timely manner and everything went smoothly. It was really a streamlined process. It was a quick and simple procedure. Everything is fine. I also had other claims with American Home Shield when I first bought my house. With the warranty, I like not having to pay out-of-pocket for a lot of stuff. It worked well and as expected.

I called the 800 number that American Home Shield provided with the service contract and told them that the dryer had quit working. They assigned the claim to a company. After they gave me the information, I called that appliance company but they said they could not come out for over a week. When they came, they were fine and they did a good job. It was just the wait, that was a little longer than we expected. So far, we were happy after the job was done. As far as American Home Shield was concerned, they responded promptly. But when I called them back after the company told me it was a week, I really didn't get any additional assistance from American Home Shield. We are older folks. We don't wanna give anybody a hard time and we don't want anybody to give us a hard time. So, we just waited.

I just purchased my home in May. My sister has American Home Shield, so that was why I went with the company. I signed up with AHS as soon as I bought my house. Recently, I had issues with the water heater. One of the tubes had burst. I went ahead and put the claim in with American Home Shield. It was pretty responsive. I got an email right away. My experience went well with the contractor that AHS sent for it. He had to come back a couple of days later to replace it. He had a face mask on and he stayed away. Right now, I'm satisfied with AHS.

I have called in a claim and also submitted a claim online. It is very easy to do both. When my house guests clogged up my downstairs toilet in the family room, I had a tech come out and he was very sufficient. He was very friendly and very pleasant. We found out the guests had been using paper towels. They were too lazy to go to the garage to get toilet tissue and clogged up the toilet. I also had a claim for a central air unit. It needed Freon. The contractor was respectful and efficient. They did their job and went on their way. I had to pay for the Freon but the fact that the tech got the air back going and he was so efficient, it didn't matter to me. So I was very pleased. I love the warranty.

Submitting claims to American Home Shield is easy. We call in if we have something broken. Though it takes a while for them to pick up and at times I spend 30 minutes or longer on hold, the reps are courteous when I get to speak to them. The techs who come are very professional and they explain things. After they finish, they clean up after themselves and show us what they've done. They make sure what they've done works. If they have parts that need to be taken, they'll take those parts. Home Shield is friendly and they always know exactly what needs to be done.

I called Home Shield for my water heater and the tech they sent out replaced it. But he cut the gas off to the line and he never put it back on. I called Home Shield last week and I told them that when I cut my central heater on, I would hear it click on the wall unit but it would not start. They told me to check the fuse thing before I make a service call. I clicked the fuse thing on the wall to engage that amperage, or whatever it is, and the whole central air unit would come on for about two minutes and then cut back off. I called and made the second service call. A tech came out and he found the problem right away. He said that the gas was not cut back on from when the water heater guy came out. It's been excellent since the second tech came. Home Shield helped me out and they make it pretty easy. Even if there is a waiting time, one of their guys would call whenever there's an opening.

My most recent claims I submitted with American Home Shield were regarding my air conditioner, my faucet and garbage disposal. It was easy submitting a claim, but the problem that I had was for the air conditioner, it also needed the ductwork to be done and reviewed. I was not able to do that in one claim. So I would have to pay $75 for the air conditioner and the ductwork and I wasn't happy about that. I just did the AC. It’s either one or the other. But the contractors were very professional.

The air is working, the garbage disposal is, but the faucet, I had not heard back anything about it. Because it has low pressure in it and the technician said that he was gonna reach out to American Home Shield. So the faucet was not fixed. But AHS is great. I’ve had them for three years and I'm satisfied with the services. It's a great company to have. I would recommend them.

I am in the process of putting in a new refrigerator from American Home Shield. The contractors had to turn off and turn on the water supply, at which point it caused the leak. So, I needed to call American Home Shield and have the contractors come out and fix the leak before we could get the icemaker hooked up. The process of setting a claim up with American Home Shield has been easy. Whether it's online or on the phone, that's not a problem. We had three requests, three appliances went out at the same time. The control board of the oven, it took three weeks to replace it. Then, the technician came out, put it in but the new control board didn't work. So, it took him a week then to reorder the part and we still haven't heard when it's due, although the part has been reordered. We're six weeks into this trying to get it fixed.

The other thing is I realized that appliances are hard to come by right now because of the COVID. But the main problem I have with American Home Shield right now is that when I call, it takes up to two and three hours before I get somebody to talk to. If they were to say, “Give us your phone number, we'll call you back when you're the next one in line,” that's one thing. But otherwise, I have to sit on hold or I’ll lose my place in the line. I learned that if I call on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings at 7 o'clock when they open, I only have a 10 or 15-minute wait. But that was before I've spent 12 hours holding for some processes of trying to get things worked through. We like American Home Shield. They've always been good. Just right now they're understaffed on their telephone answering group. At the end of the day, everything is fine. But the process is painful right now. So, I would recommend them with the caveat.

We had a leak from the bathroom, so the contractors that AHS sent had to replace that drywall. The person who came from the other company to do the plumbing sent in the information to AHS and the contractors called me to say, “We're coming out to do your drywall.” So, that was seamless. The part that I had an issue with was with the plumber. It took almost a month for me to have a plumber come in here and it was not on AHS' end. It was the company's problem. They had workers who were seeing that the work was done, but they never went out to do the work. So, I asked AHS to take that company off, which was so sad, because the person who came afterward and worked did a beautiful job. But there was no way to reach this company when you're having a problem because everything goes to the voicemail. But the contractors that came out were very professional.

American Home Shield sucks. I keep them because my husband is gone a lot. I'm a single mom a lot and I have no family here. It's easier to have someone that I can call. However, I had an issue with plumbing and I kept calling them. The people that they would recommend would never show up. I kept telling them, “Can you let me pick a company that's nearby? I know this company and they're getting good reviews.” They said, “No. You’re not allowed to. Even if we go with that company, you would have to go through all of our list first before we'll even let you get to that person.”

Then we had an air conditioning problem. I called them and they were gonna send someone out. I immediately looked those people up. I said, “Do you guys even look at who you are sending out to people's houses? These people have gotten horrible reviews. I am looking at this local company, Rocklin Heating & Air. Is there any way, if they're on your list, that you will let me go to them?” They said no. I said, “That doesn't make any sense. Why wouldn’t you do that?” The lady said, “I'm sorry. If you have a problem with that, then you can just pay for it all yourself.” I ended up paying $15,000 to get my air conditioning unit replaced because I would rather have a company that I trusted than to send someone up into my house that had horrible reviews. Then you're stuck with that company for years because of warranty issues. There's no way I was gonna let someone work on my house that I didn't trust.

I am not the only person who has noticed this. When I Googled American Home Shield, everyone was saying the same thing. Everyone says, “Do not go with American Home Shield. They are horrible. I have had so many issues.” I pay monthly to a company that is supposed to provide me with a service. But they only want to use the people that they want to use. They're not providing their customers with the opportunity to look outside the box. They're stuck inside this box and they're refusing to give their customers the best service. It's basically take it or leave it. If they are really interested in providing good home services to their customers, then they should be more vested in providing a list of people that have good reviews.

Also, it used to be that I would pay the $75 once the person comes to my house and does the service. Now, before the person even comes to my house and provides the service, they charge my account that day. If that person never makes it, I have to call them and tell them, “Hey, the person never came. Can you make sure to refund me my money?” To me that’s ridiculous. I'm sure I could cancel them out at the end of the year and go with someone else. If anyone asks, I'd tell them not to go with American Home Shield.

I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and I've had some problems with them. This time, I was about ready to cancel. My air conditioner went out and they didn't wanna pay for that. It is covered because I had maintenance done on it two times a year. Even the folks that did the maintenance on my air condition called AHS and told them that I kept up everything I was supposed to do because they were the ones who did it. AHS was trying to say I didn't keep up my part of the contract, but I had a letter from the folks. It was Pendley and they're recommended. They're good people. After we went through a couple of rounds, I went and talked to a lawyer about it. AHS finally decided to pay me part of it. They didn't pay it like it was supposed to have been paid.

Sears came for the refrigerator and they took a long time to get here. They fixed one part and then, they didn't fix the icemaker. He had to order another part and it took about three weeks. Then he came back and fixed the icemaker. I told them before the refrigerator went out that the refrigerator wasn’t making any noise. Now, it has the roaring noise and it never had that before. I called to see if I could get them back out and see what they could do about that because the noise bothers me. The service was good. The technician came in and was very respectable. They didn't wear a mask, though. They very seldom wear one and you're supposed to have your mask on when you come in my house. But he was a very nice person.

I'm satisfied that the tech got the refrigerator fixed but I'm not satisfied about the noise that was left and with the time that it took to fix my refrigerator. I had to go buy a portable refrigerator because I lost my food and stuff in it and AHS didn't pay for it. I was without a washing machine and I had to go to the washing man to wash my clothes. AHS didn't offer to refund my money. I didn't have any hot water and I had to go to my daughter's house to take a bath. I had a hard time but I'm trying to stick with AHS because I've had them so long.

We had a couple of options that were recommended to us by our Realtor. I did a relative price comparison and I've done my research for serviceability and customer satisfaction, and ultimately ended up winding on AHS based on the combination of those factors. But in submitting a claim, it would be nice to have the ability to edit a claim through the online portal for addition of additive services. It would be an improvement in user experience. For context, we recently had a plumber come visit that I had booked for services. Between the time of booking and their arrival, our garbage disposal stopped working as well. So I had made an attempt online to go and edit the claim to include the garbage disposal. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to do so. I called in and I was put on hold for about 40 minutes. It was understandable because of call volumes, but quite a bit of wait time.

The technician was able to add the garbage disposal. However, upon arrival, the plumber didn't see it in their initial work order, and then they themselves had to call it to their service to confirm that it was on the paper, and it was. So they were able to address it. Other than that, everything that AHS listed on their site and everything they provided their customers in their early exploratory phases was very thorough. We also had re-keying done and the technician was very professional and very thorough. He was very safe per COVID-19 protocol. So I was very satisfied.

Plumbing and electricity gets expensive. Fixing a washing machine is also expensive. I bought the policy and it worked several times already. But this time, it was annoying. My son-in-law who's living at the house told me that there was water coming out from under the sink. The gentleman who went out to see the damage said that they would have to remove the cabinet or the outside wall to fix it. He said it looks like something that I put in many years ago punctured the pipe but I don't believe that. That particular object which is a water filter has been there probably 30 years. When I submit claims online, which I don't always wanna do, it's very easy. When I do it on the phone, sometimes it's very frustrating because the people that I'm talking to don't seem to understand English or speak it very well. There's a comprehension barrier. I've had several issues: number one, my dishwasher, which may have been correct by their side; number two, my washing machine; number three, the toilet. In each issue, American Home Shield claimed that the reason the appliances weren't working was because we overloaded them, which I find to be extremely funny because how do you overload a dishwasher? Me and my wife are senior citizens and we never stuff things in there. But that's what they're claiming, so I find that very interesting.

Then we have a Kohler toilet. It has two push buttons on the top, one for low flow, one for high. They claimed that when we pushed the button down, we broke the handle, the little plastic thing that did it, which was why it wasn't working anymore. Also, it wasn't shutting off so there was a flow issue. The guy has come back and he didn't see it when he was there. He said he fixed it, but I woke up this morning and it was happening again. I had to call back a different company. The guy from Spartan Plumbing walked in, whipped up the part, and fixed it. That should've been done the first time. That's what I call good customer service.

But then what's more frustrating is that I'm a realtor and I deal with a lot of older people selling and buying homes, and if I'm referring a company to them, I assume they're getting exactly the same service that I'm getting, which makes me not want to refer this company to them. They're very poor and cheap. I don't trust them anymore.

It took them over a week to make a decision when they knew there wasn't any parts available for my old one because it was built in the mid-90s. I'm a senior citizen and I have underlying health conditions. I thought I was gonna die in his house. It was just miserable. I waited and waited and asked AHS if there was something they could do. It took so long that I had to hire my own contractor to come in and install my air conditioner for me that I bought from my pocket because they didn't come. So I called AHS one morning and the rep said that I could get a refund for that. She was very nice. So I still need to send them a report now requesting a refund for my air conditioner.

American Home Shield selects the vendors that they send so I expect the, to take responsibility for their vendors. If it's a situation where I have not gotten a service since May, instead of me referring my claim to the same vendor, they should take responsibility and send another vendor to resolve the problem and pay them. Also sometimes, when I called to request service, no offense, the people couldn't understand what I was saying and I couldn't understand what they were saying. I know a lot of people are working from home but I hear strange noises in the background and stuff that's very unprofessional.

However, there was one pipe that wasn't fixed. But I don't know if that's because I had already put putty on it. Other than that, it was good. I was very pleased with the service of American Home Shield. We have referred them to a friend.

With what I'm going through with Home Shield, I will probably cancel them. It's an American company but I could never get an American on the phone. The last time when I requested, a lady picked up in Trinidad. I couldn't understand her. So, I asked her to transfer me to an American call center, which by law, they have to. I was on hold for 20 minutes. I spoke to a lady in the Philippines. I asked her the same thing. She said, "Oh, we can't. You get whoever picks up the phone." "Well, let me talk to a supervisor because I don't think that's true.” She put me on hold, and then she hung the phone up. So, my experience with Home Shield is terrible. It would be great to pick up the phone and actually be able to talk to someone who speaks proper English or pick up the phone and actually talk to someone than having to be on hold for 45 minutes plus every single time.

The air conditioner wouldn't work at all. The guy came out, went up in the attic and talked to us. This is something that happened before and I had another company come out and repair it. That was before I had American Home Shield. There's a little relay type circuit board that runs the fan motor. That circuit board went bad. What the guy did was he had to order parts but he put a jumper in there. It turned the fan on but the only problem was that it ran constantly and never shut off. He didn't tell my wife that it was gonna do that so she was alarmed that it never shut off.

He called me on Friday and he wanted to come out but I was working at that time. We set it up for Saturday. He told me he was gonna be out there between 2:00 and 5:00. He called me back later and said he didn’t remember what time he had told me but that he was on an emergency call. I said he told me between 2:00 and 5:00. He said he'd be here in a little bit and he showed up by 5:00. He put the board in and fixed it. I’m very satisfied with the experience. The only problem I have with it was that we didn't have a time as to when the part was supposed to be in.

I called AHS because the person that they recommended me to couldn't come to my house for six weeks. While I was on the phone with them, they found me this new company, then they called over and said that there was an appointment the next day, so I called to follow up with them to make sure. I talked to the owner and he said that he didn't know how they said that he had an appointment that day because nobody ever called him. But that was settled and he ended up fitting me in.

He came out the next day and when he got there, he said that he was only there to fix one thing that he was told about. But I was asking him what was going on with the toilet and if he was going to fix that. He said that wasn't on his order, so I pulled up the American Home Shield request and there it was. There were two things that he needed to see about fixing. So, he went on and fixed the toilet issue because he had seen it on the paperwork. He also said that he would just be going back and forth with American Home Shield. But that was kind of interesting because at first, he said he was going to come back to do the other part. So, that was irritating.

Other than that, if I have an air conditioning problem and AHS sends someone out, if I call again, that particular company should be the same company coming out unless they're not available or there was a bad review from me about them. It shouldn't be that AHS will be the one saying that the vendor can't come so they'll pick the people who will come, especially if you have an established service with that particular air conditioning company.

Our plumber came out and threw a breaker but couldn't get it to work. He had to call an electrician because he had to do some rewiring and he was not authorized to do that. When he tried to get everything going, it blew the whole house out. They found out that the guy had wired it correctly but he had blown the main breaker. The water heater was about ready to blow. I called in the claim with American Home Shield to get somebody to replace the defective water heater. We got it all taken care of.

Quest Electric came out and their tech was very good about showing me everything he did and how he had wired it. He explained everything to me. He said that normally, when a plumber does this, they don't do it right and they would have to redo it. But he said that the electrician we had did a good job. Everything was done correctly. After the visit, everything has been working perfectly and we have hot water.

But I was not happy with the plumbing. When the initial water heater was brought out, it was the wrong one and they tried to put that it. I stopped them. It took them three weeks to get the correct one and I complained about them. I told them they need to get some better training or they need to do something because it was not acceptable to bring out the wrong product. Also, they set the old water heater on our carport and I asked them to get it off there. But they said they would have to charge me extra if they did that. I asked why as they were the ones who left it there. They said it was because they would have to make the trip, so I just said to leave it then. They left it until they came and put the new water heater in. The guy that put the water heater in for the plumbing company got their act together and the people were nice.

Ace's Garage Door Repair & Installation was fine. There's a safety beam so that the garage door goes up. Something was in the way and it wasn't aligned properly. They fixed it right away and it was great. However, I had not the best experience with the AC. American Home Shield has always been really good but for my particular problem, they acted like they never had to face this situation before which seemed a little bit weird to me. I'm a realtor and I give a lot of my clients American Home Shield coverage. It's not that I was unhappy with them. I just thought this particular situation was not resolved as quickly as it really should have been so I complained about it.

This was for an air conditioning problem which just got repaired. The repair situation went fine but getting American Home Shield to let me use the vendor that I had requested was the problem. It was really dumb. I own a rental and we had this huge heatwave about a month ago. The AC didn't seem to be working at the same time that one of the ACs at my own house quit cooling. It's a condo so I put a claim in with the condo. I got assigned a vendor and they were able to come out that same week which was fine. It turned out that we realized that we didn't need them. They had these rolling blackouts that PG&E had been doing to make sure that they were fighting the fires out here. They had done that in the areas where the condo was and the breaker got tripped. It wasn't the AC that was broken at all. It was the breaker that had to be reset.

At the same time, my AC went out in my bedroom area. I asked American Home Shield, "Can't I use the same vendor that I had been assigned to for the condo?" They told me they'd never had that situation occur, asking a vendor being switched from one property to the other. Instead, they tried to find a different vendor. They couldn't find one to cover me until the following week. It was really stupid. I could already have somebody who said that they could come to me so long as I called American Home Shield and switched the address but they couldn't seem do that. It took me a week to get that to happen. In the meantime, I had no AC. The appointment that I had for the condo went away because they couldn't change the address in time.

This went on and on and on. Luckily, I had a service rep to go to and they tried to resolve the situation. They have a conflict resolution department and they assigned somebody to me. Finally, in the end, after probably an extra week, they were able to switch over that same vendor to me because they haven't been able to find me somebody anyway. They were very slow in resolving the situation claiming that they've never had this situation before. That doesn't seem so plausible. You'd think that it'd be easy to switch from one property to the other if it's the same customer. They could change the address and give me the same vendor. They were holding the spot so that I didn't have to wait longer to have my own situation looked at. The delay was not the AC company's fault. It was really with American Home Shield that I was most annoyed with that they couldn't help me get to these folks weeks earlier so that at least the process could have been started sooner. I was put through undue distress.

After I moved to this house, I was sitting here and part of the ceiling fell in and it was leaking badly. I called them to see if they would send somebody out to look at it. They sent someone out, fixed it, and it was good. I was really happy with their responsiveness. Matt’s Plumbing's technician was really fast. When he was done, I thought he would get a part. He worked so fast. I've put in three different plumbing requests. One of them was a bit sketchy, because I felt like the last one that was done was a fix for the same exact problem that I've reported before. But I didn't know how to express what was going on. This was the third visit I've had from them for different things. On the second visit, I felt I was too responsible for diagnosing my own issue. I felt they looked at exactly what I told them, even though I didn't really know what was going on. I felt like I paid for nothing on that visit. But for this last visit, they were really good. And the first time, they fixed the problem. They're very responsive. When I called them to schedule an appointment, I always get an appointment within a very reasonable timeframe.

At the time when I was looking for a home warranty company, I have other friends that are using Home Shield and they were very happy with the results. And for the most part, I have been too. Whenever I’ve had problems, it wasn't with the responsiveness of Home Shield, it was with the companies that service. For instance, I had them come out to do something about the water line in my refrigerator. I paid $75 for this man to tell me what parts to get from Lowe's and fix it myself. He didn't actually fix the problem. That was early on. I've had Home Shield for three years now. In the last year or so, I've seen a drastic improvement in the level of service I'm getting.

I've only had two questionable services. I was like, "Okay, wait a minute. If they're gonna keep coming out and telling me how to fix it, then what am I paying for?" But the last two requests I put in, the guy came out and fixed my HVAC. I woke up hot at two in the morning and put in a Home Shield request. I called them via the number I was provided, first thing in the morning, and they had somebody out by 2 o'clock. The guy came out and fixed the AC in 15 minutes. It was great service. It was the same with the plumbing from Matt’s. They came out really fast. They fixed it well and quickly.

The tech has been here several times now. I know him by name. I mentioned a couple of other things and he suggested things that I could do to improve the quality of the water and stuff like that around the house. So, that was great. I am recommending them to other people. I posted when the guy came to fix the toilets because the service was so great and how quickly I could get somebody out here. It was really good.

I had 2 requests. One for Electric and one for Plumbing around 9/25/2020, the Electric vendor moved ok and done his Job ok except the basement exhaust fan was not the same size. It smaller in size with high noise. The plumber vendor (All Clear Plumbing & Drain Services) was a miss, they showed a lot of excuses, tried not to help, I requested another Tech. His company refused, I requested a second opinion. AHS made it hard, I called AHS every day from 10/2/2020 and spent almost 2 hours every day, I talked with an agent called Pauline and she did nothing, next day I talked with Amanda and she did nothing. Next day I talked with Ms. ** on 10/7/2020 around 1:52 pm and also she did nothing, I asked to cancel the request and reimburse the call request service money they refuse.

The request was set on 9/25/20 and up today the issues was not solved, so I hired an external plumber and he fixed the Garbage Disposal so fast with no any excuse. So I am not going to recommend either AHS nor All Clear Plumbing and drain services to any friend, AHS not follow up with their agents and their contractors. If there is less than one star I am not hesitated to rate them less than one star.

I placed a service request on 09/27/2020 due to my well pump not working properly. I called the company on 09/28/2020 and was told my request would be expedited. After being assigned a contractor who told me he no longer works for that company, I was given another vendor whose phone number was disconnected. After several call back to the company I was told I would receive a call back, I've spoken to several representatives, been spoken to rudely and hung up on, yelled at.

After several phone calls and about 8 - 10 agents I'm told to find my own vender and they will reimburse me in about 30 days since they don't have anyone to service my area. Problem being they have to approve the work before its done and I pay a for a warranty to have service provided, and they took my service fee right away. Till this day I still have the same issue on 10/09/2020 what's expedited about that service? So I'm left to find my own contractor. NOT TO MENTION BEING ON HOLD FOR 30-40 MINUTES EACH CALL. Very DISSATISFIED.

    1. Every day we keep calling AHS Customer Service at different numbers (800-943-9606, 888-223-3763, 888-682-1043, 888-682-1113, 888-223-3763) with no results, nobody pick up the phone sometimes for 2 hours.
    2. There's no way to talk to the supervisor or the manager, when the agent cannot solve the problem, they simply do not transfer you to the manager.
    3. There's no way to contact Customer Service via email with your questions, concerns, or issues
    4. There's no live chat with AHS Representative
    5. You cannot write a review directly on www.ahs.com, only on Consumer Affairs (which is like a flight with several stops compare to a direct flight)
    6. When agent transferred me to the department responsible for replacement, they never picked up the phone

    7. When agent promised that the manager will call me back in a couple of hours, he never did

I am a member at AHS since 2018 and over the time have requested the services several times. Never before Customer Service was that bad as now. As of today, we still cannot reach their Customer Service to get offer extension for our refrigerator replacement. Dispatch: **.

For years, it's been pretty well with American Home Shield. I never regret that I have them since day one. They give me peace of mind. When something happens in the house, you know you got somewhere to call. My refrigerator keeps on making ice without stop so all I got to do today is let American Home Shield know about it. I'm pretty sure their contractor is gonna come to fix it. With a little bit of $75, you pay a technician to come and they're gonna fix it no matter how much it cost.

Recently, we couldn't control the AC. Sometimes it would be so hot in the house but the control would say it was 64 degrees. We tried to control it and after a certain time, we could not turn the AC off or on. We had to turn off the AC from the outside electrical box. I let American Home Shield know and because of the weather, the company was one week late. They called and said they couldn't make it on time. When the guy came, he changed the whole pad, checked anything else on the AC and said it was okay. However, American Home Shield needs to get more local guys on certain areas. When I was talking to that guy, he told me he came from four hours away to make it here. I'm here in Brunswick. At least get somebody from Jacksonville or Savannah. Getting more technicians closer to town to some customers will be better because when we got AC issues in the middle of the summer, it's not funny to wait a week or two weeks.

He told me what he was going to do, and after the fact, what he did do. He also told me he would call me back in an hour to see if everything was functional and he did. At another time, I also got a refrigerator replaced. The whole claim process started out ugly, but it worked as well. The refrigerator was ordered, and it’s gonna be delivered this week.

I called American Shield and told them I wanted a check-up. I was satisfied with the service. The guy was very impressive. He was very knowledgeable, very courteous and honest. I found him very professional. He had his boots on with shoe covers. He complimented American Shield and told me that we should definitely keep that contract. He was very supportive. The system is working fine but they charged me $80. They were offering us a $75 special so I do need my $5 back.

I've been relatively satisfied with American Home Shield. There was one incident or two that I had some concerns about. One was I had a hot water heater replaced and I ended up spending about 400 bucks. I thought that was a little extreme. The guy ordered stuff to have based on the code and to upgrade the system. He had the system torn down. I wanted some hot water and I don't know anything about plumbing so I kinda trusted him. Then another guy came and couldn't do what I asked him to do because he said the water pressure was too high. He had to install a water pressure and they ended sending me a water pressure control. What I don't like about the service is they'll always try to find something that I think is optional to some degree. That's probably one of the reasons they signed up for it, but it happens a little bit too often.

The man discovered that the tube was plugged with sediment. He was able to get it taken care of and everything's going fine right now. There is no more noise.

In previous years, I used to my claims online, but for some reason, I can't do it now. So I have to call it in. But it's easy to do. I had a claim for one of the tubs upstairs. It has a little control handle that you use to turn the water off and on and a part of it that was inside the wall was leaking so that when you would turn it on, it would spray everywhere. It was leaking on the side of the wall that we couldn't see. When the tech tried to take the knob off, we could see that it was spraying. It's been beneficial for me to have American Home Shield. I've only had an issue once but it wasn't necessarily American Home Shield’s fault. One of the vendors that they used wasn't doing well with communication. They had to replace a cooktop and I was without a cooktop for over a month.

We had an issue with the ice maker, and the contractor came out and did a quick job. They had to order parts. They made a temporary fix. Then in four days, they did the full thing. We have a second ticket, but they've not done it yet. I'm pretty happy with American Home Shield overall.

The spring on the garage door broke. Home Shield sent out Reliable Garage Doors and as soon as the tech saw the garage, he called out the problem. Then he called the home warranty to see what was covered and I looked at my book and I saw that it wasn't. But he said that whatever the part and labor would be, Home Shield will deduct it and they can deduct whatever I've already paid. But there was no deduction. I pay $75 for my service and I ended up paying him $150.

I feel confident about Home Shield's service so far. I've had it for about 20 years and it's very beneficial. I pay the service for something that might cause 1,000 or more. I don't have to worry about that as long as it's under the warranty. If something is not under the warranty, that's when I have to worry about trying to come up with the money to get it done. But once I know that something is not under the warranty, I have that opportunity of waiting to get the money together to get it fixed or go on and get it fixed when the contractors come. I like the service. It's really been a peace of mind for me.

I was gonna call American Home Shield and ask them to refund me my money because this has been the absolute worst I've ever seen in my life. I had a claim for my septic tank because it's full. All the water in my house, my sinks in my bathroom, my showers, and the toilet are backing up with feces in it. I tried to explain that to the young man who came. He said I don't have a septic tank. That's not true because it's in the backyard. He just came, looked around and left. He said, "Oh, there's nothing I can do, ma'am." I called Home Shield back, told them and they kept telling me they'll call me back. They've never called me back.

Then the second claim was for my plumbing. It's the same exact thing. I paid the other service fee for someone to come out. The gentleman from the company Gee's Drain Plumbing came out. He was very thorough, very professional and he told me exactly what was wrong. It's a blockage, and also the septic tank is full. Now, I've paid both of those service fees. I'm frustrated with them.

My overall experience has been an absolute nightmare. They won't call me back. There are no results and nothing is done. I'm trying to figure out how to get to the Chief Executive Officer of this company because if they're not gonna send someone out to fix my septic and the plumbing, then I just need them to refund me my money, and I'll find another company. I'm right now in the process of calling the Better Business Bureau in addition to the AG's office because they're just taking money and that's not right.

AMTEC Services was sent by American Home Shield and I didn't have any problem with their service. What I have a problem with is how long it takes to get the service. I love American Home Shield. We’ve had them since we had the house. But lately, like in the last couple of years, I've been having to wait a week and a week and a half at the longest before I get service. Two or three days is fine but I've got some kids in my house now.

I haven’t called back about that dishwasher because I’d have to pay twice. Two people that came out were saying that nothing was wrong with it. I guess they were uncomfortable or didn't wanna be in here the whole wash cycle. Once the cycle gets to the end, water will be left at the bottom of it. My recent claim went good though. The technician has been here twice. He's a good technician. I just can hardly understand him because I think he's another nationality but he did a very good job and he was very respectable. Everything is working okay.

We didn't have any cooling. I called in a service with AHS and they sent out PlumbRus, LLC. On his initial visit, the tech came out and could not find the leak, but clearly there was a leak somewhere. He also put in nine pounds of Freon. I told him that I had issues in the past with the unit. We've been in the house 16 years, so there were some issues with it and there was something going on that I couldn't find. But he said he was going to turn it in and I said okay.

Then, I was surprised when he called me the other day and said that he has a new condensing unit for me. But I told him it was okay. So, they came out and put it in. The two guys that came were different than the guy that came the first time and they were excellent. They were there for several hours but it worked well and I had no problem with the folks who came out. But it was surprising to me that someone would come all the way from Fort Sumner to Clovis to do the service, which is 60 miles away.

Other than that, I did this deal online with American Home Shield and I had no problem. When you do what you're doing with American Home Shield online, it works great. But if you call, it's the worst nightmare in the world. A few months ago, we had an issue with our double oven. The main board went out on it and it quit working. So, I called and AHS assigned someone to the case then told me what day they were supposed to show up. On the day that they were supposed to show up, they didn't show up. And about an hour later, they called and said they were not going to be there. Then, they were supposed to be there three days later but they never showed up. We never heard from them either.

I knew that AHS was sending someone from Lubbock which is 100 miles from us and I told them that there was a local company that was on their list who was already familiar with the issue. I told them that when the oven went out, I initially called him. He came, looked at it, said that the board was out on it. So, I decided to call my warranty and see what they'd do. That was when AHS assigned somebody else and when the guy didn't show up, I called back. And I was on hold for a almost an hour and a half. Then, when I got somebody, I tried to tell them what had gone on and they were really helpful. But if you just put your information online at the computer site, it works like a breeze. So, I learned, through trial and error, not to call. If I ever had to do something and it was strictly a phone thing, I wouldn't have it no matter how good it is. I work all day long and I don't have an hour and a half to spend waiting on hold.

The door itself had been locked by the tenant. So, I ended up paying 100 bucks for a door that was locked by the tenant. It just needed to be unlocked. I've had Home Shield since 2010, but I've had them on three different houses. I currently have them on two. They have progressively gotten harder to deal with. I have submitted claims both ways. For simple problems, the online way is very straightforward. But for more intricate problems where you need to explain what is going on so that you don't have three or four different engagements before you get the right service technician, which is one of the problems.

The online service is useless when you're trying to actually get something fixed, where you know there's an issue, but the online methodology doesn't allow you to explain what it is so that you can get the right guy there. But in calling the claim in, you better have 90 minutes to two hours set aside to either wait, talk to somebody or talk to the next person after that somebody or get dropped from the call.

I have a list for both the areas of when they say, "Hey, a technician will be coming." It's like, "Okay, great." And then, I wait to see who was assigned, and then sometimes I call back and say, "Hey, I don't want this company to service me," because in the past, I've had bad interaction. It's on the consumer to do that themselves. I've got a house in Williamsburg, Virginia and I had a really horrible interaction with one of the plumbing companies they assigned that I ended up learning they were ripping me and Home Shield off. It's not my job to keep Home Shield from being taken for a ride, but they took me and Home Shield for a ride. So, anytime I'd have a plumbing incident in the future, if they assign them, I just tell them, "No. Can you just find somebody?" And if there's plenty of people that aren't willing to do that, then we all end up paying more. Other than that, my experience is satisfactory and what I would expect.

In the beginning, I didn't understand until I figured out how this all worked. The first thing I did was have the furnace serviced. When the service guy came, something was wrong with it. I went to the American Home Shield and then they said I had to get one of their service people. I had to pay again for the second person come. Then I knew that as soon as I had wanted to do a servicing, I needed to contact AHS and get their service guy to come out because otherwise, I had to pay for the service guy that I chose, and then pay for their service guy to come out after. It would have been helpful to know ahead of time with that service.

The last thing, it would have saved me 100 bucks if I had just called their service guy first. According to the inspector, everything hadn't been serviced in a long time. Then there was something wrong with the air conditioner and it was so much easier to just process it all because I was already ahead of the game. I only had to pay $75. I didn't mind. Recently there was a leak under the sink. The guy came one time and I mentioned that I was having a hard time and that the water heater wasn't heating the water so it expanded there. He said that if I wanted any more work done, I had to submit it online and then AHS would make arrangements for him to come back. He wasn't able to turn the water off in order to fix the original leak because the main water thing wouldn't turn off.

The plumbing company was amazing. I just got it yesterday and nobody said anything. But I knew that they had to order stuff and then wait till the stuff came in and then come back and I was assuming that was why. The only thing that I found that was hard was that AHS used a list that they have there, and sometimes I wish that I could just tell them instead of trying to figure out what fit the best. But then the people were quick to come out, were always excellent, and so helpful.

The seller just sold this house and I realized that things hadn't been serviced, but I anticipated that they would be fine ‘cause the seller just probably used the things the year before. But, so far, there's been things that needed to be fixed and it didn't surprise me. Everything's 20 years old. But at the same time, I thought, this warranty probably isn't gonna help because I'm sure the things would go one more year.

We had a couple of leaks and when we submitted a claim with AHS, things worked like they should have with the contractor, Greenway Home Services. The techs were very prompt, called ahead of time, very professional, tended to the problem, and corrected the issue. But my rating for AHS would not be a very pretty figure right now. Our GE Profile Advantium oven, which is a $2,000 appliance, went out and their person declared it dead and needed to be replaced. But we got sent out a wrong model. This has been going on for weeks and so far, AHS has not been willing to correct that.

That was their mistake but I'm sitting here, holding the bag, at least to date. This week I finally decided to make one more call before we went and bought the correct one. I got a young man in their appliance division that promised me that he would call me back in a couple of days. But regardless of what he was able to do, I have not yet heard back from him and we're on the third day today from that. With my frustration from that experience, I would much rather not have a warranty company that has treated me like American Home Shield has. They're fixing to cost me $1800 dollars out of my pocket on top of that, aside from what I pay them every month which is enough to give me better service than they’d given me.

I highly recommend AHS for things that you normally can't do and they have good contractors. They’ve come out and they seem to be knowledgeable with what was going on. The pipe from my sink was kinda corroded which was causing the air conditioner to leak. Plumbers Inc. came down and diagnosed it. They told me first to get air conditioning people out to clear that line and then once I did that, they came out and fixed the problem.

I submitted a claim for a doorbell and the process was great. The guy was very knowledgeable. He came in and checked with another doorbell to make sure he knew exactly what was going on. He was very well and since the repair, the doorbell has been working 100%. We had the doorbell done before by American Home Shield and this guy, John, came and put the bell in. Then all of a sudden, it wasn't working anymore so, we had to call again. We also had to pay the fee again. We've had other things replaced and I had no problem with the other work that's been done, except for the last one.

The tech was very professional and very nice. It's not happening now, so he may have fixed the problem. He wasn't sure if he did or not because he couldn't get in touch with the Whirlpool engineers for my refrigerator. So, Home Shield scheduled someone else to come out.

But the problem I'm having is when I'm able to get on the computer and do it, it takes a while for them to give me a call back or send an email back to get the information. Then once I finally get the information, I have to call and leave a message to whoever is gonna be working on it. When I submitted a claim online one time, it ended up causing chaos because when I finally got one person, all of a sudden, I'm getting some more information from somebody else.

My latest claim with American Home Shield was for a leak under the house. It was coming from the air conditioner area. I called when I did the claim and the rep was very good. A contractor came from Guaranteed Services and he was very nice. It was nothing they did that day at all because they just had to come out and look at it and take pictures. They didn't repair. AHS is gonna send another second opinion out here. We've had American Home Shield and don't use it very often at all. When I first called, the lady said that they do cover water under the house. There was water coming in from a unit. I think it was coming from condensation from the air conditioner, too. But they’re saying since my ductwork was saturated, they called it abuse to the air conditioner because it was around the flashing of the cork and it had come undone at places. You can't really see it unless you woke up on it. I was really upset. We don't abuse anything.

Apparently, they’re not gonna cover it unless a second opinion comes out and gives them a different diagnosis. The contractors come out here and sometimes they have to make three trips. But the guy from Guaranteed Services said he couldn't do anything. He had to make pictures and he has to come back. It's really frustrating for them too because being a warranty company, they can't just go ahead and do anything.

I've had American Home Shield for several years. And as a matter of fact, I’ve even told my brother about it, and he took it at a recommendation from me. But it's very frustrating when it tells you stuff and it says it covers this and they don't really make it plain when they sell the policy thing to you. It's very frustrating because I feel like sometimes the information is not given to you correctly. Because of the sale, they want a sale. The tell you they cover this and they don't go into details about anything. It's very frustrating because we took the policy out to have it for things like this. Then they come and they can't do it.

I used to have Sears but they never came out. They hardly fixed anything. So, I went to American Home Shield and it was crazy ‘cause some of the guys that came out to fix my appliance were from Sears. I just moved in to my new home about a month ago and I wanted the keys to be replaced. I filed a claim online with AHS, then Realty Rekey came out and my experience with them was pretty straightforward. Other than that, the online portal of AHS is good. The key items are in there but some of the dropdown menus could be enhanced to give more options. I've used American Home Shield on a couple of claims and although their online process is simplified, it doesn't provide the areas to really signify exactly what's going on. A good example is a garage door claim. I could get American Home Shield for a claim on my garage door and the menu just offered a couple of things about whether it went up or didn't go down fully, et cetera. But it didn't allow for other problems that existed on the garage door opener.

Aside from that, there was a bunch of documentation online, which required me to do some of the reading, but beyond that, I was never directed to do anything else. AHS should also improve their process as far as the services that may not be covered by the same individual. As an example, when I had to get a toilet repaired, there were certain items that were not covered by AHS while others were. So it would be great from a consumer perspective to know the exact items within a work call that wouldn't be covered. Besides that, all the problems I submitted with AHS got resolved and overall, I'm happy with their performance. AHS has been an important part of providing peace of mind for me and my family as we moved to a new home because you never know how things are operating fully.

I saw that the promotion was going on and I didn’t wanna miss out. So, I got the furnace done and Fast Response came out. It went very well. The guy that came out for the furnace was very personable. I was pulling into the driveway and I had my work badge on and we got to talking about the NTI, the students working from home. I was able to instruct him in the direction that he needed to go. So it made me feel happy to be able to support him on the school end as he was supporting us in getting the service on our furnace.

He had said that it looked like at one time, something was leaking in there. We didn't even realize that it was something that was leaking in the furnace. It was a pipe that he was referring to, and we didn't realize it until it damaged our ceiling. It was the pipe in the ceiling. So we had gotten it fixed but not realizing that it could have been a potential problem for the furnace. But he saw that it wasn't wet.

I'm somewhat relieved that I have American Home Shield, but I had to purchase a brand new dishwasher because they sent somebody out here four or five times. But they never offered to do anything else because what ended up happening was they would send somebody out, it would work for a little bit past the 60 days or 30 days and then I would have to call them right back out and spend another $100. It takes them too many chances and I don't like that about them. But they did go in half on replacing the air conditioning unit outside. The flip side of that was they gave me kind of a smaller unit. I have to keep it turned down so low for it to constantly work properly. I have my mixed feelings with it. I pay extra for American Home Shield to do all my appliances in the house, not just my furnace and air condition. Sometimes, I feel like I might be wasting my money.

I went online to submit my claim. It's always easy if you do it that way. I previously had a couple of issues that were fixed first visit. Now, I have a leak that appears to be water coming under my floor. I don't know where it is coming from. I have laminate flooring and the floor has buckled and warped. That was the only way I knew that I even had a problem. I thought the leak was underneath the floor. The tech said that it shouldn't be under the floor because there shouldn't be any pipes under there. He couldn't determine it either.

I told the tech about having my handyman look at it, but he still went around my chimney thinking maybe that was where it was coming from. He said the best thing for me to do at this point is to have that wall cut out and have my handyman come back and run some water in it to see if that's where it's leaking. I would recommend using Home Shield. I'm divorced. I need a home warranty because I know that some of the issues that I might have would cost me a whole lot more than I could pay.

My trailer is 20 years old and I'm buying it. I've been there seven years and I was like, "You know, I really can't afford if something happens to break down." That's why I wanted to go with Home Shield. The AC was blowing, but it wasn't getting cold. The compressor wasn't turning on outside. And then, when Douglas Mechanical came out and checked it, it was the condenser. The tech sent me a picture of the condenser showing me that it was slowing up, and he changed it and everything was good. He was awesome. He did it within minutes. He said, "I see that you guys keep your filter clean and everything else." And he said everything looked good. He did a wonderful job.

I was worried that I didn't want Home Shield to be a screwed up company and have the tech come out and say, "Oh, well..." You pay $100 for the service guy, and now you owe all this money in parts. I kept saying to the lady when I called to check on it to get the guy out there to fix it, "You guys told me under normal wear and tear that this stuff is covered." I had to have it covered because I don't have the money to fix it, and it was. That just made me feel a lot better that the rep was, "Yeah. All done. You don't owe anything. You already paid your $100 for the service guy."

Following a service request for my pool equipment, a tech came out and he looked at the equipment. He told me American Home Shield was not gonna cover this based on how it looked. It didn't work. But I showed him how it worked on the thing and I described to him what the problem was. He was really quick. He said there was a leak, fixed it, and was gone. But I had him come back out. I know enough about my pool equipment and I knew that things weren't talking to it. It was the display and it had nothing to do with the pump. He said the gears were grinding but they weren't. And the pump works perfectly fine. It's been in service mode for a month and a half. The service the first time wasn't great and we didn't resolve the problem. The tech immediately made an assessment based on a 30-second visual before he knew what was really going on.

I've been living in the house since 2011 and I know what could possibly go wrong. I’m all about people coming out and fixing things. There was an issue with that pool thing, which I didn't know if it would be a major issue. But it really wasn't. It boiled down to programming. I ended up finding somebody who could come out, program the system and get them talking to each other because that was what the issue was and not with the equipment.

I'm not really satisfied. I would never do the home warranty thing again, especially because I had filed a claim for my fridge as well. The guy that came out was fantastic and he diagnosed the problem. The fridge and freezer are from 1997 and I had an issue with them cooling. The tech got that working to the best of his ability by replacing a part. But my freezer still doesn't freeze like it should and the fridge isn't as cold as it should be.

I'm gonna have to file another claim. But I can't ever get a hold of a representative to talk to somebody and ask them to explain to me how each service call works. What I was told was if it was my pool pump, I would have to have somebody out. If it was the pool heater, I would have to call and have somebody else out. You can do it online but you can only mark one thing. I would have to pay $125 for somebody to come out and fix that, on top of whatever the fee was that I paid for the home warranty. I would rather invest the money into my own. I've lived in the house and I know enough repair people that come out on payment anyways. I'm fixing my pool and it probably should have been fixed by a pool person. But everybody wants to wipe their hands clean of it. I just want it done and in working condition.

Unless the new keypad still is not triggering it to transport from the keypad to the inside thing, then he said to just let American Home Shield know and they'll send him back out. It might be something else but he wanted to start with that because it took a while to transmit. So, hopefully, that's all it was. The technician was very courteous and made sure he kept his distance. He was wonderful.

We bought an old house and there are so many things that the people have been coming and doing. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is simple. I just go on their website, set up a claim, which takes about three minutes, and pay $75 online. I had one little incident with an electrical company that came out. The light on the fan wasn’t working and he pulled some chains that were broken off. He said that the fan was not working either and then, he started to it. All I wanted him to do was fix the switch on the wall for lighting, which he did. The way the guy wrote it up, the fan was the problem.

AHS called me and they were gonna say that they were not gonna pay for any of it. We had a long discussion and we got settled. AHS is very responsive. They got somebody out quickly and two out of three isn't a bad batting average. It wasn't that bad as far as the work that the contractors did, so I'd recommend them. I would use them again and I may even extend it.

Budget AC, Heating & Plumbing came out and the technician was nice. He said something about a possible crack in the furnace. He turned off the gas and said that I won't be able to use the furnace. He charged me the $100 service fee and then I was told I had to wait to find out if American Home Shield would cover whatever the repair might be. I got an email from American Home Shield and it said something to the effect of some concerns.

I called to find out what that meant and they scheduled an appointment for me for Monday, the 12th. I agreed to that. Then they were talking about replacing the furnace. I told them that the technician just said crack. He didn't say anything about replacing the furnace. I'm new to homeownership and I don't know these things so when I think of a crack, I think of like a chip in a windshield, or a crack, something that can be filled up. I told them that I wanna bring someone else. I wasn't gonna commit to anything until I got another opinion. I don't wanna be taken advantaged.

This didn't make sense to me. To hear a crack and then to hear that my furnace needs to be replaced and it needs to make modifications is like going from zero to 60 and I'm not prepared. If the Budget guy said anything to me about that and I didn't understand, then that is my fault. But he said crack and I couldn't use the furnace for safety. Fine, I got that. I just wanted to make sure that it was gonna be fixed before it gets too cold.

I happened to be able to get another HVAC company to come and the guy confirmed what Budget said. He explained a little bit where the cracks could occur. He did what he needed to do. He came upstairs and told me that the people that were here were not trying to railroad me. The furnace needs to be replaced because it's old and the cracks can't just be fixed. It will allow carbon monoxide into the house and that's not healthy. I called American Home Shield and said that I would get the service done. I understood that the cost to me is $1,320. I don’t have money laying around, so between now and Monday, I got to figure out where I’m gonna get $1,300. I can't live without a furnace that doesn’t work.

Budget did what they needed to do but it would have helped if there would have been a little bit more explanation about the crack. If that had been explained to me, I might not have had the reaction that I had. I pay 49.99 a month because I couldn't afford to pay the full amount for the year. But when it comes to renewal in January, I honestly don't know that I'm gonna continue paying that.
