    The process with American Home Shield was very easy. I've done it many times. Since COVID started, everybody's been staying home so suddenly, we're using our appliances and they're breaking down. Recently, my garbage disposal wasn’t grinding. The guy called and we made an appointment. I had to adjust the appointment day and he was great. We were able to communicate and come up with another time from the first time that we set. The communication was easy.

    A piece of cat litter made out of clay had fallen into the sink and it was jamming the gears so that the engine couldn't turn it. However, the guy kind of got a little uptight. He said it was not in the warranty. I told him, "If you wanna charge me extra for taking a piece of clay out of my garbage disposal, then we can have a conversation. Otherwise, I don’t know what you’re going on about.” But the disposal has been perfectly fine. It took the guy like two seconds and it was done. The only thing is it's a very old garbage disposal and this is the third time I've had to call somebody out on it in the last six months. But every time, somebody's been able to kind of get it going again so it's fine.

    American Home Shield has sent out plumbers and electricians. I've had the policy as long as I've owned my place which is almost 20 years. On a side note, I'm the president of my HOA so I have to call out vendors to work on things around our building from time to time. The reason I keep paying for American Home Shield for myself is I like knowing that I'm gonna pay the flat fee and that's gonna be it. I have had some vendors that have come out and told me that I had to pay them more to fix the problem and I've done that. I deal with so much price gouging because I'm a woman and I don't really know any better sometimes, or at least the vendors think that. I like having the feeling that it’s gonna be within a certain range of money and if it's more than that, then it's another conversation that I'd be having with American Home Shield.

    I really like American Home Shield. I've only done one claim and it was for my leaky faucet. I called and the process was very easy. The guy who came a couple of weeks ago was wonderful too. He was here really fast and he was here for 15 minutes then he went up to the store and got a part. He put it in and then it stopped leaking, but it started leaking again this past week. It didn’t stay fixed. Apart from that, I was very happy and pleased with how fast they came out.

    Our recent claim experience with AHS regarding plumbing was great. But the service of AHS lately has not been so great. I had a dishwasher break. I put it in a service request. Someone came out and said that they would be in touch. Apparently, they sent me an email from a totally different web server, so it went to my spam folder, even though I’ve always gotten American Home Shield emails.

    For some reason, they were using some survey system for appliance purchases and there was no way to contact the appliance purchasing department. I can call them, but every time I've tried to call them, it took three tries to get the actual appliance purchasing phone number as if it's some secret. So, I have given up. I wanted to ask some questions and clarify some issues on the appliance that they had recommended, and I couldn't. Instead, I'm just taking the e-card option because it seems like that'll be the least likely to have an issue. I’m not super-happy but AHS has the best contract around.

    The toilet was leaking in the back. American Home Shield gave me notice that a plumber was coming out. Grade A plumbing came out twice. They're good and I'm satisfied with what has happened. There's still a little tiny water problem, but it's not that bad and there's nothing to worry about. American Home Shield got a horrible service. Trying to get ahold of someone is very difficult and then they make them wait until they hang up. When I called American Home Shield the first time for an issue on an outdoor electrical outlet, I could not get a representative to save my life. I called every day for five days and then that claim got 60 days over and they wouldn't do it. So I had to call back. Then the guy fixed the outside again and I had to repay the extra 65 bucks for it.

    The toilets were loose and I didn't know if I was gonna have to reseal them or not. So I had the contractor come out and they tightened up one and then resealed the other one. So they replaced the wax seals in my toilets and then made sure that they were tightened. But when they got here, they didn't realize it was two toilets. But it was quickly handled. They had to come twice because on the second occasion I called them, they couldn't find my water meter because part of what they did was also fix the leak in my bathtub. But they were all timely and professional. The communication was perfect. Everything is great now. I was completely satisfied. It's a peace of mind knowing that if something goes wrong here, I can call American Home Shield and I'm not gonna get bloodered if I didn’t have the coverage.

    With American Home Shield, it's hit or miss. If I get a good company, my whole experience is great. Recently, the techs they sent for my heating issue were phenomenal. However, he knew there were more things that had to be fixed but he said that AHS has tied his hands and they would only let him fix one thing that was probably not going to resolve my issue. He was right and my issue wasn't solved. I had to call back and get him back at my place again. The tech said that if I had called him outside of American Home Shield, he would fix five different things to get me working. He was great but the fact that we had to jump through hoops was annoying.

    Another time, I opened a case for plumbing with Home Shield and they assigned a tech. I looked the contractor up and my sources were saying that they sucked and that I should not let them in my house. I read that they were cheats and liars who don't want to fix things. I called AHS and spoke to a really nice woman. I told her to find me a different plumber and we had to go through the entire process of cancelling the claim and opening a new one. She said another tech would get assigned. That didn't happen and the original plumber ended up coming. Exactly like the review said, the techs from there didn't do anything. They stayed at my house for 10 seconds, looked at the issue and said “Nope. No problem. See you later.” I asked them if they wanted to fix my issue and they said they were just racking up service calls as that was how they would get paid. They didn't have to fix anything.

    I called AHS and said that I wanted a refund. I told them that I had instructed them not to send that contractor but they did and he didn't do anything. The rep whom I was speaking to said he would contact the agent again. He said he would get back to me but doesn't. I call again a couple of days later and the same thing happened. The rep said that my issue would be escalated and that they would get back to me. I still have an issue but I'm gonna get it fixed on my own. I want a refund of my deductible as my entire experience is miscommunication with no one following through. It is a horrible experience. AHS wants to do the bare minimum to get things working. They get things fixed but they will look for a reason why they can't.

    My fridge was making noises. AHS's tech from Caltech Appliances came and checked it. The tech was very knowledgeable and he knew what I was talking about. He said that Caltech had received appliances and he wanted to know what was wrong with my fridge. As soon as I explained, he knew what I was talking about. He said he had to order something and when the part came in, he put it in. Now my fridge is working fine. I've had good experiences so far with AHS.

    I had a leak coming out from under my tub. I didn't know if it was the tub, the faucet, the plumbing, or the pipe. I called American Home Shield and I was thrilled with the first rep I spoke with. I called back a second time and I ended up just telling them, “Never mind.” That was the first time I had no luck. I don't know if they didn't know what they were talking about or didn't understand what I was talking about. That wasn’t helpful at all. I got so frustrated and hung up. I waited half an hour and called back again because I knew I’d get somebody different. That one was fine. It was really quick. The plumber went in there and assessed it really quickly. He got the parts he needed, came back, and fixed the leak. That was fine.

    American Home Shield has been good. Submitting claims is easy, but following up is a little difficult. Before, we used to be able to email or chat online and they stopped the chat. In the last three months, we called them for the AC and the washer dryer and the hold time was forever. To get two minutes of information from the right department and the right person, I would have to put them on my speakerphone for a couple of hours every time I called. Once they get to the phone though, they're good. When my pool guy said that the machine was not working correctly, I called American Home Shield to double-check if everything was okay. Spa Doc came out right away and they did a good job on that. The guy assured me that the machine was working fine.

    I have no problems submitting claims to American Home Shield over the phone. I get disconnected from their automated system every now and then but I get things done. Recently, our garage door's wires were messed up. American Home Shield's contractor came and everything went fine. The keypad still doesn't work all the time though and their guy hasn't played with that. We may need a new keypad.     I live in a mobile home, and only one side seemed to be throwing air conditioning out. And it wasn't heating as fast as it should be. I called Home Shield up and told them what it was. And they said, “Okay.” And they would be in contact with me. I got a text saying what company it would be. The next thing I know, Quick Response A/C called me and set up a time to come out. It was very rapid and no problem. The tech changed some part inside the unit and put a new control box up for me. He was very nice and helpful. They went under the house and crawled all around to make sure that everything under the house was okay. They took their time to go through everything. That was the third time I've had them out.     A panel on my heater had gone out. I called AHS for the maintenance on the circuit panel. The contractors replaced that and everything is fine now. I submit my claim online with AHS and it's very simple. I go into the computer, and then it’ll say what kind of service I want. It’s more of multiple-choice, so it’s very easy. The contractors that AHS sent have been very professional. They go straight to whatever I complained about. They did a maintenance check on what was going on with it. Once they got it done, they wrapped up and they were off. I often tell my friends about American Home Shield and how I think it’s such a good thing to have, especially for a widow, so it’s very convenient for me. It’s something that I’m glad I got into.     The online interface was pretty straightforward. I requested the key change and everything happened really quick and efficiently. I asked them some questions about what it covered, like I had a sliding door that had a key. They said it didn't cover that.     The contractor that American Home Shield sent out diagnosed the microwave and the heating element was out. My book that came with the microwave said that the magnetron was warrantied for 10 years. So, I figured that I needed to go to Samsung for that. So I did, which was a little complicated, but it worked. And so, when the contractor came out, he put the magnetron in and the diode was out. Everything was okay but I was still left up in the air on the panel. I had mentioned to him when he first came out that there was something wrong with the panel. And so, I asked about it and he checked. He said that there was electricity going to the panel. And so, that was it on the panel.

    I went to make some popcorn and the microwave only worked for 21 seconds and it would go off and give me an error code. When I tried to do something different, like change the power level, it would heat okay once the magnetron was put in. But there was that code that kept coming up. So, I called him back and told him. The second guy that was sent out, when I called and told them that the panel was not doing what I was asking it to do, brought the panel out without having someone come out and re-diagnose it, which I was appreciative of. But it was broken. So, we did it again and it took quite some time to get that part in. But they sent us a different guy out who was extremely nice and very knowledgeable. He brought it in last week or was going to install it, and it had a pencil dent. And so, that's when I got in on it and said that we have to have something done because I'm fixing to go to closing.

    Things moved fast because that was last Wednesday. I called the contractor and they said that they would get on it. Then, someone would call back within two days to let me know what could be done because I didn't wanna wait another couple of weeks and nothing still be done. I called back on Friday before 4:00 because no one had called me, and spoke with someone else who said that they already had the part. The rep called the contractor to find out when my appointment would be and apparently, they told her today. So, I need to call them and verify that.

    A service guy came for the HTG. It was clogged. It wasn't firing up, and he fixed it. There was no problem with the service. As far as American Home Shield, I love my account person. She's excellent. Her name's Andrea and she's very attentive. I'm a Realtor. It was my house that I had the problem with, but I recommend the services of AHS all the time. If I have a client that has a home that's 15 years old or older, I always recommend them to get the insurance at least for the first year. They’ve just spent so much money, they’re really not in a position where they wanna spend hundreds more.

    Our dishwasher was leaking and submitting the claim to American Home Shield was smooth. We got a call right away from the company they assigned. And then, the technician came and saw the problem. He couldn't fix it because the part was burned or broken, and it was not available. So, he ordered the part. He said it would be here within 10 days. So, when the part came, they changed the part. They were very nice and we were very happy.

    In the past few years, we didn't have a great experience with AHS. And many times, we thought of changing it because whenever we call for something, they would say that it was not covered because of this and that reason. Sometimes, they would cover it but the service was not that great. Recently, we are noticing the change. They have the monopoly now. A lot of companies are offering many things, which may be the reason that now, we don't have any issues. We’ve had AHS for 20 years and they are improving and have shown us good results. They were very efficient. They sent the technician right away and very polite people came and did the job. This dishwasher had an issue a second time, and we had a good experience.

    Three separate times, all within four or five days of each other, my garbage disposal was jammed. Whatever procedures I took to try to unjam it were not working. I was impressed with the speed of which the plumber was sent out. It was easy to report my issue online. One or two days later, I got a call and was set up for an appointment. It was a very fast response, which I appreciated. However, I don't like the way American Home Shield does things. I do understand this is insurance. You've got to go two or three visits with whatever is broken before they'll decide whether they'll fix it or replace it. On the second visit, the plumber got a little short with me. I think with COVID going on, we both had issues and got a little testy. When he came out the third time, he brought in a new disposal for me and installed it. I was ecstatic because I got a new disposal.

    My furnace did not work completely, and it was freezing cold. The repairman showed up on time and diagnosed the problem, which was a totally frozen, burned motherboard. He said, “I can get you the part. It's going to take me a day or so. I'll rush it.” He got the part, asked me if he could come, and he fixed the problem. He couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful. Much better than some of my previous vendors. I'm a single mom with a bunch of kids. It's COVID and it's crazy. He wore a mask. He was very well-mannered, and I would love to have him anytime I have a problem. The furnace is working great, so I have no complaints.

    I found it very easy to submit a claim online with AHS. The person that came out to check out the furnace was great. He put on his little booties as soon as he came to the door, and he had a mask on, which I was really tickled about. I asked him what was involved because I really didn't know. I've only lived here a little over three years, and I had no idea if it was a really old furnace or if it was relatively new. We opened the door to the furnace, ‘cause I live in a condo so it's a very compact space. He told me that he was gonna take this door off and do the checking. He checked to see how old the furnace was. I left him alone and he went to the business. He changed my filter for me, too. I’ve been pleased with AHS. The contractors have been really fast to come. They have repaired the garbage disposal and the stove. The only thing that's hard for me is paying the yearly fee. But I have recommended AHS to my family.

I set up the service call and I told them that I had TSF coupon that covers the $100 copay. It took me about 49 minutes to get them to finally find it on my account, even though I had all the information, including the email, and who sent it, what day, what time, and so forth. I gave them the codes on there. They assured me that everything was gonna be fine.

    About a week later, I got an email saying that I was past due so I called them again. I asked why I was past due and told them that the coupon took care of that. But they said that it didn’t. It took them about half an hour until they figured it out. They found it in the comments. I told them that I kept hearing apologies but nothing was getting done correctly. I told her that I wanted a supervisor. This was the second time on this particular call out that I asked for a supervisor. I asked for them in the past, and they never return phone calls from supervisors. This was before the pandemic so they couldn't blame the pandemic for everything. And they said that they guarantee that a supervisor would contact me.

    The rep called me back on Monday and she said that the coupon would be taken care of for sure and that a supervisor would call me that day. Nobody called me back. Then, I got another email on the 14th day saying that I was past due. I called again. This was my third phone call on the same service call. I told that I had asked for a supervisor two times before and it had never been done. For whatever reason, they couldn't get this right. Then they assured me the coupon was gonna be taken care of. She saw all the notes. I told her that they kept assuring me this but I kept getting emails saying that I was past due. They assured me that was going to be done. And here we are, over almost three weeks later, and we still have a problem. I have two different addresses. I paid close to $2,000 a year for this. I have my sister, my mom, we're all ready to leave the company because this has gotten beyond ridiculous.

    LA Appliance came out and looked at the dryer. They had to order a part so I was without a dryer for a little bit more than a week. The waiting period wasn’t that great. But customer service-wise, once the technician went back and put on the part, he was friendly, and they were quick. I’ve had good and bad experiences with American Home Shield. In February of 2019, I had to pay out of my pocket a third-party to do a septic issue and AHS paying me out on that is still pending. they said they would reimburse me and it never happened. I've called numerous times, talked to numerous people and they just continue to say that I have to wait for the check, which is almost two years. It's $350 that I’m waiting for.     Some of the outlets were loose and the light hanging right above the dining room table was hanging on by a thread, which was high risk. I went to the website of American Home Shield and it gave me the option to schedule. The contractor called me and when the technician came and checked it, she was able to see. She tried to figure out what was going on with one of the receptacles where the switches didn't work and she replaced the exhaust fan in my bathroom. The motor was burned out.

    I wasn't here when the HVAC person came and I wish that I had been because being the homeowner, I would like to know more about my system. I would like to walk through with him while he was doing his inspection. My mom was here but I had specific questions. I don't like the vents that are in here and if I want to change them out, I want to know if that is doable and run ductwork downstairs. These are round ones. They're not like the square ones you can just go in Walmart and buy. So, I'll probably end up paying someone else to come out and do another check for me with me here. I like American Home Shield.     There was a noise in the refrigerator and the icemaker was leaking. Sears was able to stop the noise. The ice machine is still kinda leaking. But it's nowhere near where it was. So far, I had three calls and they went very well. Everything was fixed. The washing machine was the last to get fixed. The service people are fine. They come in and I tell them what's wrong.     Every year, at least three times a year, the contractor has to come and fix the air conditioner. But they wouldn't put in for a new one because as long as they can fix it, they'll repair it and not replace it. After 20 years of that, it gets kinda old but I have no choice. It's very easy to submit a claim to American Home Shield and they always tell me what I need to do to get this thing replaced. But the companies that come out wouldn't do it because they said that they couldn’t lie. I said that they were not lying and that they were telling the truth.

    AHS is great and I have no problem with that. It's just getting things done properly, and these days, everybody is about saving money. All the companies that have come out are very good. Especially being a widow, you want people to take care of their job and they do that very well. I'm used to dealing with AHS every year. On several different occasions, not just the air conditioning, they've done my plumbing and other stuff in the house. They have always been very courteous.

    Austin Heating and Air was great. They were very nice and very helpful. Sometimes, when you have to wait over the weekend and your air isn't working, that's frustrating. But it's understandable. With the first thing that I put in for a leak in the roof, we needed a drywall guy to come out to patch up where the leak had been. The guy has never been here so I still have the hole in the ceiling in the kitchen. I told him at least three times I'm only available on Friday because I do dialysis the rest of the week. He would say, “I'll call on Thursday and make an appointment.” Then he would call in last minute and say, “I can come today.” I tell him there's no one home.     Updated on 01/24/2021: I am still waiting for American Home Shield to either respond to my latest message regarding the lack of action on the ductwork in our home or to refund the $100 service fee that was paid. The ductwork to two of our upstairs registers is faulty and allows warm air to permeate the cold air coming through the vents, leading to moisture buildup and mold problems.

    The initial vendor they assigned to the problem claimed that they did not do those types of repairs. The claim remained in limbo for three months until I filed a complaint here. Once the complaint was filed, American Home Shield finally assigned another vendor to investigate the issue, again this is three months after the initial claim. The second vendor was very good and said they were able to fix the issue but they needed to file paperwork with American Home Shield to confirm that the repair would be covered. A week or so after the second vendor came to my home, American Home Shield denied the coverage under the guise of "missing parts". How does ductwork, that worked fine for almost 2 decades only now having issues have "missing parts". But since there is no real way to talk to someone who speaks English well, good luck getting more details.

    Original Review: I filed a claim back in July with American Home Shield due to moisture build up around several registers in our ceiling while the air conditioning was running. The moisture buildup is causing damage to the ceiling around the registers as well as causing a mold problem in one location. The warranty company assigned an HVAC company to our claim promptly, but when the contractor arrived I was told that they do not handle these types of repairs.

    I have tried to follow-up with American Home Shield three separate times now and keep being told that they were attempting to contact the contractor to get a diagnosis, as apparently they never received one. However, each time, the customer service representative I was speaking to was unable to get in touch with the contractor. Additionally, each time I spoke with the customer service rep, I was told my case was being "escalated" and that I should receive a call within 48-72 business hours. I have yet to receive a call back from any one of the three separate phone calls. So to summarize. Paid $100 to have contractor come to house, said contractor does nothing and tells me his company does not handle this type of repair, attempt follow-up with American Home Shield three separate times, no answers, no repairs, just out $100.

    I have been a customer with AHS for approximately 3 years or better. In August of 2020 my refrigerator, dryer, and washer machine were all in need of repair. I placed an order for service and paid my deductible. Sears was my assigned contractor however, upon speaking with the Sears technician I learned that AHS did not assign my ticket over to them correctly and they only received an order for my washer.

    I then contacted AHS to make them aware of the error. They then placed another ticket for my dryer and refrigerator which was assigned to a contractor listed as Thermostat. The technician came approximately a week later and he repaired my dryer however, my refrigerator was not making the loud noise at that time. I informed him that it was an intermittent problem and it is very loud and stops cooling. My freezer had just had a new ice maker installed about a month prior by AHS contractor. The contractor then told me to place a recall ticket when the refrigerator malfunctions again. When it did malfunction (which was not long after) I recorded the sound from the fridge and took photos of the condensation build up from lack of cooling and emailed them to the contractor.

    The technician was assigned and returned within a week. He then stated he was ordering parts for the refrigerator including a computer panel and some other parts. He also ordered a new freezer door which he informed me that it takes 2-3 weeks for arrival however, he did not inform me that he would NOT come install my other parts when they arrived. It is now October and I reported problems with my refrigerator in August. This is unacceptable service that my appliance is still not repaired. I have lost hundreds of dollars in food that should be refrigerated. In addition, my children home school in my kitchen area which they now cannot because the refrigerator is so loud. It is a nuisance and embarrassing. I even had to cancel an event I was having at my home because the refrigerator was not working and was extremely loud.

    I begged AHS to send the Thermostat mechanic back out and they informed me they could not because he cannot come until he has all the parts available. I was given an estimate of an additional 3 weeks for repair. I could not believe my ears. My ears are ringing and we can’t sleep at night due to the sound being omitted from the refrigerator. I was then offered up to 125$ to purchase a mini fridge or rent a refrigerator.

    I have a family of 6 which 3 are under the age of 4 and drink gallons of milk per day. In addition, I have to go to the grocery store daily because of this problem causing me exposure to the deadly Coronavirus. I cannot store their milk in a mini fridge. The cost to rent a full size refrigerator is also much more than 125.00 for three weeks. I have requested a supervisor on more than several occasions and I was constantly denied or they said they would email them and someone would call me back and no one ever did. Again it has been over 2 months that my refrigerator has been inoperable.

    I finally requested the cancellations department and I spoke with a rep there and she agreed to get another contractor to come back out sooner. I now have to wait until October 15th for them to come and assess the damage. No customer should be treated this way. I pay my premium each month and I paid a 100$ deductible for service and I have NOT received service. This has been one of the most horrible experiences I have encountered.

    My children actually consumed sour milk because I did not know the refrigerator had gone out. I have lost approximately 500$ in groceries, I spend extra gas daily to go to the grocery store. Not to mention the countless hours I have spent waiting to speak with a representative and then actually speaking with a rep. I have been hung up on. Supervisors refuse to call back. At this time AHS has agreed to repair my refrigerator for 650$ although it will take 3 weeks for the parts to arrive and technician to repair. Meanwhile I have no refrigerator and I operate a home childcare business.

    Our pool spa wouldn't heat. I called American Home Shield because I wasn't sure if the heater on the spa was covered or not. The person I talked to assured me that it was covered.     The air conditioner wasn’t blowing anything and the contractor that American Home Shield sent out told me that the coils were leaking and there was no Freon. They put some in there and it leaked out. When they made the appointment to come back and fix it, I asked how much my part was gonna be and that was when they told me it was over $1,000. So, I asked them more about what was going on. They said that the air handler had to be replaced but the outside part apparently works. After they got everything done, the air conditioner still isn’t working.

    The thermostat was bad so I got a new one. They said it was the wrong thermostat and so, I had to get another one. It was the three times the price so I went and got another thermostat. We didn’t know that the thermostat was bad. They didn’t check that. So I'm kinda stuck with having to figure out what's going on and how it's working. It's a heat pump so we're still stuck on heat and they said that it was because of the thermostat. It has a Nest thermostat and it is not good on the heat pump so it burned the back panel of the Nest. I got a Nest upstairs too and it's having problems. I wanna get both of them done at the same time but I have to wait till the first of month to get the money for the other thermostat. As soon as I get the other thermostat, I'll call them out and they'll put both of them in.

    The contractors were very polite and good people. They helped educate me and they went over everything with me while they were doing it. They ended up replacing the air conditioner except the outside unit. So, we'll probably have to replace the outside even later. They were very nice people. I enjoyed them coming out and working with them. It's just now we got to get them out here to replace the thermostat. We're not using air conditioning right now. Everything’s great except for the price. The cost was unbelievable. We didn't realize it'd be that expensive because that's why we have insurance on this stuff. But that’s the way it goes.

    That's not happened to me before but over the last year or so, that seems to be what's taking place. American Home Shield is guaranteeing them a fee to come out so they're taking that fee. But if they have to do labor and parts, it's coming out of that fee. So they're coming and taking the money for showing up and not wanting to do any of the work. One guy tried to tell me on my plumbing that I had to have my whole house replumbed and have a new out put in. I had them send out another guy. He ran a new snake through my plumbing and it was perfectly fine. When I've had issues and I've called American Home Shield, it was only one time did they make me go through loops. The first couple that I called about, they sent out someone for a second opinion.

    One of the other things that I tend to notice too is some of their people that they contract with tend to prey on someone that's ignorant. I've lived in this house for 23 years. I know my house inside and out. If my kitchen sink clogs up and my washing machine backs up, I already know where there's a plug in my piping. Because of all the years I've dealt with it, I know exactly what needs to be done. One of the things that they'll ask is, "Have you been living in your house very long?" So they kinda are priming you to see, "Okay, you've only been here six months so you're pretty ignorant about your house." That's where they tend to try to gouge. These days, you would hope that you would get honest people when they come, but not everybody's in it for the honesty. A lot of people are just in it for the money and trying to make money on the back of the homeowners.

    My mother has been very happy with American Home Shield, and she's liked the experience very well. She's had the contractor out to her house twice. That was when they had the pandemic going on, so that one was a little bit more complicated. But once she made the phone call, it was taken care of within a few days.     I was there when the contractor for the washer came out. It was a man. He was very professional, explained everything, told my mother exactly what was wrong with the washer, said that it needed repaired, and said he would take care of it and she'd be getting a phone call.     The tech from Berry Electrical entered my house with a mask on and we social distanced. I took him to where the issue was upstairs and he handled it. He explained to me what caused the electrical issue. I just wish AHS would supply them with the little booties for the feet for my carpet, but that was not a big deal. I have an electrician also coming to fix my chandelier over my kitchen light, and then I have a repairman coming tomorrow to look at my dishwasher. Then the last thing I have is the ventilation system in my children's bathroom is not working. But so far, I have no complaints.

    A lot of these things are very cost-effective, and with the insurance, it can be quite expensive. I had a couple of issues with my air and I had to pay out of my pocket. But it was nothing as much as it would have been if I had to buy a brand new system, so that's the main thing. I used to call AHS on the phone a lot. However, because with the COVID, it seems like it takes forever for them to answer the phone. The good thing is I've learned to go on the website, which is much quicker and faster. I wish that the customer service over the phone was better. But that's often balanced because the customer service that they do over the web is a 10.

    My refrigerator wasn't freezing. I gave American Home Shield a phone call, and the claims process went very well. Sears ordered the part and had it shipped to my house. I then called them once it came in and they came right back out. They were excellent. They came in my house even with this COVID-19. They had their shoes covered, and their mouths, too.

    I had another claim with American Home Shield on my faucet that took too long, but I'm good. Someone came and did the inspection. We called them and they said they were coming. It was 7:00 PM, so I emailed the people that they had. My husband and I waited. Then we said, “Let’s call them.” The person we spoke with said, “Oh, I’m so glad you called us. I don’t even have you down for a work order.” Then, we paid $140 additional to the company when they came in. They finally came yesterday. I went about a month and a half having to cut the water under the bottom because I was waiting on them. They didn't have the appointment. Then, they said they had the appointment, then they said they didn't. That was the first time. I've been with them for a long time, but I never experienced that with that company.

    It was the contracting company's fault because when I gave it to American Home Shield, the people got to us immediately. But then, after that was when we lost them. They had to order a part. We kept calling. We got an email from American Home Shield telling us to rate them. We were like, “Hey, we can't rate them. They ain’t done anything.” We called the people back and they said, “Oh, we thought we had finished.” I said, “No, you left our home saying you were gonna order a faucet.” So then, they said they were gonna order it. We just got it repaired the day before yesterday. We stayed home all day Tuesday because we thought it was only 7:00 AM. But it was 7:00 PM. When my husband called them, they said they were sorry and that they haven’t got that email. But I got water now.

    We had an electrical issue. All Fix Service came out and said it was DP&L issue. DP&L came out and said that it was the homeowner's issue about the cable electricity we're having.     So far so good. It takes only a day or so for the contractor to come out and look at the problem. So that process is great. I'm just disappointed with the garage door. The guy called American Home Shield and they said they didn't cover it. I lost my $100 just like that. He was not here 10 minutes. We also had a claim for the air conditioner. When the contractor came out, it wasn't running at all. He said that some type of fuse had blown. After he left, we then noticed it started leaking. We called him back and he said something about a pipe from the underground that broke loose and that's why the water is coming in the garage. He went around the back and said there is no condensation from the back unit because a hose is broken and the water can't go out. That's why it's going out the other way. My husband asked him to take a blower and blow through the pipe. He said it won't do any good because that's not the problem. My husband insisted so he did it.

    After the guy left, my husband went at the back and saw all the condensation. The water was going out through the back. I told my husband, "Well, we can have all the water in the garage rise up and see if we still have that problem. Maybe something was clogging it up and by him blowing it through, maybe it unclogged it.” I don't know if my husband went out to check it this morning.

    All of a sudden, my refrigerator didn't seem to have the same coldness to it. Some of the foods seem to be going bad. When we got sick off some of the foods, we realized that was what was going on. The food was spoiling super quickly, so we just figured something had to be wrong with whatever cooling element was back there. So, we put in a claim for it to American Home Shield. I went on the website and filed a claim. I really like their website. It's easy to put in the claim. You have to tell everything there on the claim, which is fine.

    Now, the contractor was not in that timeframe. We've never got a call from them, but the thing said you can reach out to them. I reached out and I left a message with my number and my husband's number. Then we didn't hear anything again. I told my husband, “It’s been a whole another week. Why don't we go ahead and call them again?" So then, he called and left a message. The next day, they finally called me back. Once we got in touch with them, everything rolled pretty quickly.

    The contractors were very direct, very nice and polite. They seemed really knowledgeable. We just went with what they said they thought it was. I was surprised because he said, “Well, I think your whole compressor is bad.” The refrigerator has been fine. Even the icemaker started working again. That hasn't worked in a while. I was so happy. I thought, "I'm not putting in $100 claim on an icemaker. We're just gonna go buy some ice. So, that was what we've been doing. Then when everything else started getting less cold, that was when we put the claim in. So far, American Home Shield really met my expectations.     We just had somebody come through and check out the furnace. The contractors were great. They came in COVID-ready with mask, booties and gloves. I appreciated that. I do feel like they did a full checkup on my furnace for me which is what we were looking for.

    American Home Shield used to be great before they moved their toll-free number overseas. I get that they're trying to save some money but at whose expense? They send out good companies but to get to them is a pain in the butt. Communication is part of their problem. It's horrible. You start calling early in the morning then when you reach them, everybody is overseas. I can’t understand what they’re saying. They put you on hold and the sound quality is terrible. I did it a couple more times and I was like, “Forget it. I’m just gonna have to roll the dice and try to do this myself online. I hate it because I am a phone person.     We had moved into a new house and we remodeled the kitchen. The worker that did the demolition of the old kitchen, and subsequently, the plumber that put in the new plumbing fixtures, told us that our regulator was leaking. It's a big, two-story house. We were concerned so we called AHS and made a claim for that.

    They sent out Plumbers Inc., and the guy went through it very thoroughly and checked. He did something different than the other plumbers in that he drained all the drains from the top. He did some equalizing with the water heater and did get the regulator to turn off. He said, “It's not that the valve is bad. There's nothing wrong with the regulator shutoff valve. It's just that you have to drain it. You have to be very thorough about it.” He showed us that. He provided us evidence that it was working so we ended up not needing to do any work. It was great. He really did take the time to explain what he was doing, why and how. He was incredibly professional, helpful and friendly. We would call them for anything else another time.

    The most recent claim was for a faucet that was falling apart. It was a plumbing issue. The contractor was fine, but I had to pay a $125 service call for him to tell me, "I need a part. I'll have to come back. And then, you'll have to pay $225 because this is a different type of insulation." That's fine. It's a new house. The builder did it his way. I called the contractor on Friday and they still don't have the part. I was gonna check again today, but they're supposed to come back and install it, and then I have to pay the contractor. But I thought paying a monthly fee, then a service charge $125 for the guy to walk into my house, and then another 250, I can do things cheaper without paying their fees. There's no value in the whole program. It's very expensive and you can probably do these repairs a lot cheaper on your own by making your own arrangements. I called Home Shield this morning to cancel my warranty. I tried them for 30 days and that's it.

    I had a washing machine give out a few months ago. Someone came in and observed what happened to the machine, and then it was replaced. Recently, I had a pool pump that wasn't turning on. In this case, the difference was that my pool pump wasn't replaced with a new one. It was replaced with a used pump, which I was told that’s what I was going to be getting. I’d always assumed that when Home Shield replaces something, it would be new. But it’s working so I'm happy with it. The service is great.     We've been hearing a noise in the bathroom toilet and we're not sure what that is. It's like every once in a while, air would rush in. I may have to call the contractor back and have them check. But it’s not often enough that if they were here, they might hear it. The commode has a bidet with it and we were hoping that it was hooked back up correctly. We went around and checked everything but I did not notice till the guy was gone that I have a kitchen sink that has three stainless steel compartments. He did not put the drain in the strainer part that hooks down in it. He did not put one in that matched my other two sinks and he put in a cheaper part. I thought they were supposed to match it if they could and I'm sure they have the same kind. He put in one that was like another sink that he fixed but he didn't have to replace that part.

    I wondered if when he was ordering, he got it confused or this was cheaper. But mine turns and locks into your sink and the other one just has a straight thing that you push down in it. So, I was not very happy with that. I have not called them back yet because I was waiting to see if we could record what we were hearing in our room and we should play it to him. My husband said he has heard it several times but we're not in there that often. I heard it the other night.

    I understand some parts have to be ordered but you have to wait another week or two to get a light switch after they come out. They say a lot of that is having to make the phone calls to get into American Home Shield. That's very difficult now, even for the consumer. In the past, when we've had a light switch or a plug, they just went out because they kept that on their trucks and didn’t have to make a trip.

    I'm disappointed that they're not giving you papers of what they’d done either anymore. With my air conditioning, they told us they had a special. AHS was running something with Goodman and that AHS would furnish the outside and the inside unit, and that we would pay the contractor to put it in. The guy wanted $4,500 - $5,000 to put it in. I asked how they got that and they said that was their estimate. So, we didn't have that unit replaced. We had somebody else come and tweak it and it's working fine. But we never had to pay out-of-pocket.

    This is our second coil that we had replaced in this unit inside and the guy charged me $300 besides what AHS paid, and I never had to pay that before. They had put Freon in within the timeframe of 30 days. He slipped the coil in and didn't even have to do anything different. The other guy who worked with him had told us that we only needed a pound or so of Freon to be replaced. And $300 is a lot for Freon if that's what we paid for. We've had AHS eight years in this house and then, we've had them before. A lot has changed in the last couple of years. I've saved American Home Shield money before because I've asked why they do things and why they’re adding things. Then, I would say that I don't need it. That company can't come to my house anymore because they were gonna charge me $1200 to work on my air conditioner or to put in a new one. Then, they knocked it down to $600. That’s been several years ago.

    We keep AHS mainly because of our air conditioner. Others have told us about other companies that are offering home warranties. It's almost time for ours to come up and we're having to decide whether or not to keep it because we pay $75 for them to come out and then, we're paying extra money and we don't know why. They're not giving us a bill to tell us what we paid for. Also, American Home Shield needs to hire more people. I hang up sometimes with AHS and AT&T because I can’t understand who's in the Philippines or I hear the chickens crow. The chickens are crowing over in the Philippines at 7 o'clock in the morning and I'm not calling at 7:00 our time.

    I wasn't getting any cold air. The fan wasn't turning in the AC unit. The technician was okay but I had to have it replaced all out of pocket. American Home Shield didn't cover anything. That kinda sucked because that's why we got the policy in the first place. In order for them to do anything, it needed to be updated. It was put in when the house was built in 1988 and it's never been updated. This guy from American Home Shield called and told me all the things that needed to be done. I thought why bother? It wouldn't last. The condenser was going out which made the fuse box blow and I had to have two fuses put in before they replaced it so I just went and replaced it. Everything will be covered now because everything's all new. I had a stove replaced and they gave me the money for that.

    I had an issue with my dishwasher and the guy who came out fixed the problem. He did wonderful. He told me what the problem was. He was in and out. He's very professional and knowledgeable. I was glad with him. Sometimes, AHS sent people out and they had to come more than one time. He fixed the job and that was that.

    American Home Shield could do better. I've been with them for about five years. I had an incident that I thought that they should fix my shower. A contractor came in and looked at it, and told me that they couldn't fix it. It would cost me like $3,000 to get it fixed. I wasn't pleased with that. I spoke to two different guys from AHS, but they didn't do anything for me. They kept saying that it's in the fine print that AHS doesn't cover this and that. Also, I don't like that paying the $75 out of my pocket every time. I'm already paying 63.99 a month, and then every time they come out, if I had them to come out two or three times a month, I got to pay $75 every time on the service call. That's crazy. I stayed with AHS because I've been with them for about five years. I just didn't wanna change and get another home warranty.

    The company came out to do a routine check. While they were here, they submitted a second claim because they found something that had to be replaced rather than leaving and coming back for a second. I paid both visit fees. My unit needs to be replaced. It's 20 something years old, but it's gotta break. So they're just going to keep taping it together. But it doesn't make sense to keep doing that since it has got the kind of Freon that is not made anymore or I will have to pay a very high fee. So I'll have to call somebody.

    I don't have a lot of confidence in warranty companies. It's not different than I would expect, but I do see that I spend a little bit more money than American Home Shield does. When I renewed the warranty last year, I hadn't really used it. And now that I'm using it, so far, it's just not worth the money. But I expected it could be worse.

    I call Home Shield's number and tell them what I need to do. And then, they contact whoever they contract with. They either provide me that information or the contractor calls. It took a bit of time to activate the warranty. So, for the initial calls, when I tried to do it online or on their automated telephone, I was unable to do it because it took a while for all the paperwork to catch up so that it was active and I would be able to do the automated system. Sometimes, the folks Home Shield contract with may be too busy to get out in a timely manner. Other than that, when the kitchen sink was leaking, Low Country's Best's tech did a good job. He came in, showed me what was leaking and repaired it, and told me what we need to do if it occurred again.

    Circa Mechanical texted the day before, with a reminder that I have an appointment the next day. So, I was more impressed with them than some of the other companies we’ve had. The tech was amazing. He was prompt and called to say he was on his way. He showed up when he said he was going to be here. He was very thorough, went through everything and tried to identify what kinda issues we were having. He found several leaks that we had in the house and took care of them. Part of the issue wasn't only within the house but it was also outside, which wasn't under warranty. So, we had a different company come out and fix that part with the irrigation system.

    We’ve used American Home Shield a couple times and we've only lived here for a couple months at this point. It depends on what provider they put you with and who is available. We had an air conditioning issue and our provider wasn't available for a long time and they couldn't get somebody else. It was during a heatwave at 110 degrees and our air was broken. So, it's something that you deal with in Florida. But for the most part, they've been courteous, talking to the employees on the phone or even through their chat. It's been quick and easy to get somebody to respond. You get a return phone call right away. So, it's been good.

Then my oven wasn't closing correctly. It was staying open. The contractors that came were great. They had to order parts and they came right back out and put those on. Both of them were in and out in 30 minutes. I had to do a refrigerator two years ago and that was a different story. There was a lot of red tape that stemmed back to the way that they operate and it caused some issues. But this was actually painless, so it was good. I was happy. I have rental properties where I've used a different home warranty company and I've had such a terrible experience there that when I did this one, I was actually pleasantly surprised.

    I had a claim put and Home Shield sent me to the first vendor, which was Southern Electric in Murrells Inlet. They were horrible. The man was rude to me. He didn't give me a receipt. It was a terrible experience. He said something about mosquitoes. “You're living in South Carolina, now, you get mosquitoes.” And then, I said something to him about, “See, I felt like I don't wanna believe you.” And he said, “Oh, then that's it right now. We don't have to talk any further. You don't believe me, I'm not talking to you.”

    He came out for the washing machine. It was clunking. Also, the pest control man had come over because I was having trouble with mosquitoes. And he said, “Well, let's look in your washer. Sometimes, there's water left, and sometimes, they could put eggs in there.” I said, “Oh, please don't tell me that.” And he said, “Oh, you can't possibly have that. There's nothing wrong with this machine.” And then I said, “You've been rude to me and I don’t really want you in my house.” So, I asked him to leave. And then, he never gave me a receipt. He never said anything about anything. Usually, you get a receipt and you would sign it, but he didn't do any of that.

    Then it took me weeks to get Home Shield to have another person. This one fella that came over, who was from Carolina Appliance, was the second vendor. As bad as the first one was, the second one was wonderful. It was like day and night. He was on time. When he came in, he said his name. It was just such a different experience. It was nice to see. He diagnosed it right away. He said, “Your agitator is broken and the holder is not holding it, that's why it was not…” And it was twisting the clothes so that it looked like a twisted snake, and I had to un-twist them to get them in the dryer. He said, “No. I ordered a new part for you.” He solved the problem and he was just a very nice young man. He was so helpful and considerate. I loved his thing. I even tipped him more than I usually tip because he was very good, and I complimented him.

    Home Shield sent out an email about $75 to come over and look at the furnace to set it up for the winter, and I asked him if he was one of the people that do that for the Shield. He said, “No.” His company just works on corporate stuff, like when they're assigned. I would have had him in a minute. As much as the other one said it works fine, he said, “How could he say it works fine? The agitator, as you could see and the way it was turning, it's broken and everything like that.” I was very happy with their service. I would clearly use them anytime.

    I've been a Realtor for 21 years and I always use the Home Shield warranty for all my customers. I used to buy that as their closing gift for them. And I use them also for my personal home. So, I knew how it operated. And then, I even have to spend $100 instead of the $75 fee as a Realtor fee, which is fine. But I'm so glad to have the machine fixed and I could wash my clothes without having to worry about it because it made such a loud noise that if I was in the inside of the house, but the washer and dryer was in the garage, I would have to jump up and run and shut it off because it was just twisting the clothes so badly.

    I had to wait a couple of days before American Home Shield could get somebody to come out. When the contractor came out, we stayed outside and we were very cordial. He didn't need to come inside at all to take care of anything. I showed him how I had been jerry-rigging the power. He said that I needed a part, which was what I told them when I called. I was also told that I had to wait two more days for the part to come in.

    A fuse blew in the house and it went out on two rooms and a bathroom. I showed the electrician one other thing that was strange because one of the plugs in the bathroom still worked. The guy said that the entire subdivision had kind of been having this particular problem. These are the houses that pop like mushrooms and they half-ass it when they do.

    The contractor changed out the fuse and instead of costing me several hundred dollars, it only cost me one. Since the repair, we have no blowing breakers and nothing is going wrong. I don't have to run extension cords out of the bathroom into the bedroom and plugging all my computer and everything into it anymore. I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. I would recommend it.

    Carolina Appliance came out for our recent claim. He's local and just down-to-earth. He has a couple of people that work with him and he's growing his business and, genuinely, he cares. He did a good job. I called him and the contractors were out there. They were checking with me before they came and within an hour that they were gonna be there. It was all positive with Carolina Appliance.

    However, it's a little different now if we call AHS. I do have to wait on the phone. If it's during the summer, it's busy. I understand. Calling is really not that long of a wait and they really do a good job when you're on the phone and you're speaking with them. On their site, it is easier to go there and request, but their site could be a lot more friendly in requesting a vendor that's local and nearby.

    An example, if I have an AC issue, there's a person that's five miles away that I can call and he'll come out. But I can't do that 'cause I don't have a work order to assign. I have to call American Home Shield, get them on the phone and ask for them to send that contractor here, which I know will come out here and service. The other part is getting somebody on the phone with them, which usually takes a while holding, which is negative. But AHS is still good.

I was still skeptical about it then I was in the check-out line at Walmart, and I was listening to a cashier talking about it. This kept coming to me where I was not asking.     All I asked them to do was put two straps on a water heater. The contractor went there, but they wouldn't do it. They did something and made it start leaking. They took a strap off, but they have not done anything else. AHS charged me 100 bucks. I'm in the middle of a refi and I had to have two straps on the water heater. I had to hire a handyman to go out there and do it. I figured American Home Shield has good plumbers, they would do that for me, but they didn't. They told me I need a new water heater, and they're waiting for approval for that. That has been five days. I haven't heard a thing. So, I'm not happy with AHS. I’ve used them three different times. The first time I used them, it was good. The second time, I had to call them out again. And this last time, it turned out to be really bad. They need to pick plumbers that know what they’re doing.

    We have two air conditioning units in the house and one of them was blowing warm air. The technicians came out and found that there was a switch on the outside unit that was loose. They jiggled it back into place but they said that if it happens again, to call them back and they could come back and replace it. A couple of weeks later, the power had been off. When it came back on, the same thing was happening. The unit was not blowing cold air. So the technician came back out and got everything fixed.

    I usually do the claims online to American Home Shield and it’s very easy to get set up. Then, I get a text message and an email giving me the status of the process. Sometimes, things tend to break or go wrong on a Friday afternoon. So often, it's not till early the following week before someone comes out but they get back as promptly as they promise and they always say second business day. And we haven't had any problem with that. I would recommend AHS to friends and family. It’s the peace of mind of knowing that you’ve got appliances and equipment in your house that can go bad at any time and with two hurricanes this year and all the expenses with repairs for that, we don't need something else going wrong.

    At first, submitting the claim to American Home Shield was difficult. I thought I had the insurance since March. They go through my bank and after calling three days, and them trying three times, it finally went through. It's weird because I bought one for my son too on the very same day. His went through but mine didn't. It doesn’t matter now. It's fixed.

    The claim was for the flapper in the commode tank. The people that AHS sent out were very professional and did a neat, clean job. I also reported leaking underneath my sink and the repairman came out here. The water was getting all the wood underneath the cabinet wet. So, instead of turning the water off to the whole house, we turned it off underneath the kitchen sink and the handle broke off. So, AHS wouldn't pay for that because they said we broke it. It was supposed to have been at the same time that the plumber was out here to fix the commode. So we went ahead and paid out of pocket for the same plumber. They went ahead and fixed our kitchen sink since they were here. The experience was awesome and American Home Shield is worth getting.

    This is about the third time they've come out in a year or so. They fixed my microwave, the refrigerator was icing up and they showed me that ice was building up on one of the trays and I was able to take care of that myself. A guy came in, replaced it, and fixed it, and it's working fine. It's just the ice maker that went out and we had to wait for parts to get that fixed, but it wasn't a problem not having ice. I didn't wanna pay $100 again for the refrigerator, so I was trying to do two things for one. But, I haven't had any more problems with that.

    The problem I had was when the hot water heater went out and I had no hot water for seven days. The technician had to check and see if the part was available, but the hot water heater was about eight years old. They had to wait to see if they could get the part for free and that took several days. It went through the weekend and I kept telling them I have no hot water and I got a baby and some other family living in the house. We had to take cold showers and cold baths. It was terrible. Their job was if they can get the part, fine, and if they can't get it, go buy the part and put the part in and take care of the customer and not wait three or four days to see if the part's even covered, which it wasn't.

    Finally, when they got the part, it took the technician a few days to get out here, and then I found out that the guy who ended up coming to fix it had got the Coronavirus. Fortunately, he wore gloves and a mask and he worked in the garage and nobody came in contact with him other than when I signed the contract. That was a problem that should've been handled a lot quicker when somebody has no hot water. It took them so long to get it done and they ended up giving me back half of my $100 deductible. It didn't make what we had to go through for seven days any easier.

    Back in July, I had a refrigerator that died. I had to wait on the phone for up to two hours to get a hold of somebody to file a claim. I watched a whole softball game on hold, numerous times. Finally, we were able to get someone out and the technician said, "It’s unreparable. We'll get a hold of Home Shield.” Then there was an interim where I hadn't heard what Home Shield was going to do or what we needed to do. I was without a fridge from July 3rd until the 18th of September. They said that due to COVID, more people are home so they were experiencing high volume of calls. Why don't they increase the number of employees? I had thought about dropping Home Shield because of the availability of getting a hold of them to report an issue and then trying to stay in contact with them was just horrible.

    I have other friends who have American Home Shield, and they've ran into the same thing. So it's just not me. American Home Shield needs to really look at their availability. It's absolutely insane and unacceptable to have customers waiting two-plus hours for a representative to file a claim. They said you can report a repair online but some of us don't have computers or we don't have the high speed internet to support doing online requests. That was my case. But my friend did and she still ended up having to call because she never heard back from them.

    When it comes to the repairmen, everybody who came were wonderful except for Moos Plumbing. They came out this summer due to a water heater problem. They said that my water heater is a vent exhaust, and gave me this long song and dance that I was going to have to pay 2,000 to 3,000 out of my pocket to have my house re-vented out. I just don't think they wanted to do the work because when it was handed over to a different plumbing agency, the water heater was under warranty.

    Getting somebody out to go look at the microwave is okay. The contractors are good. The one who came and looked at the microwave was really informative and knew what he was doing. But getting it replaced, we were on hold for two or three different times for over three hours each time before we got to talk to anybody. We still hadn't gotten it replaced yet because it took so long for us to get through. A lot of times we just couldn't stay on hold that long. So finally, I was home sick for two weeks and stayed on hold for three and a half hours. I finally got through last Friday. They hadn't brought the microwave yet to install it, but it's in the process.

    The warranty part of AHS has been worth it. Overall, the experience has been positive. The only issues are the hours and hours on hold, and replacing the same part over and over. There were some issues with one of our air conditioners and they replaced the same thing for three times in the last three year. It works for a while and then by the next summer, there's an issue again. I know they don't want to replace an air conditioner, but eventually it's going to happen.

    Our A/C stopped working on Saturday and we notified American Home Shield first thing Sunday morning. The company they assigned the work order to couldn't come out until Tuesday afternoon. It was in the mid 90's Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. When the repairman made it out he had to take a part back with him and said he would come back on Wednesday. He returned on Wednesday, installed the part and told us everything was working. Turns out it wasn't as we now had hot air coming out of the vents. We called him back and came back over to work on it some more. He left again saying everything was working correctly. This time we had cool air coming out of the vents like normal. Only problem was we couldn't get the A/C to turn off now. We had to kill the power to the unit to make it stop.

    We reopened the ticket with American Home Shield and they assigned the issue to the same company again. Once again, the company can not come out the next day. It has now been 5 days we've been without A/C. The high temperature every day has been 90+. I have called American Home Shield three times today to see if they can help get someone out sooner and they have been absolutely no help, just saying it is out of their control. If you need something fixed and fixed in a timely manner, you should not rely on American Home Shield to get it done.

    The bottom freezer area on my refrigerator freezer went out. It was not making anything frozen and it was the same temperature as the refrigerator. I have an LG and the man who was first sent out by American Home Shield looked in the back and said that I was gonna need an LG certified person to take a look at it. AHS sent out a Sears company representative and the man did all his testing. He said that there was a lot wrong with the refrigerator and it was gonna be a boatload of time and expense. Being 10 years old, it was not worth to try and fix it because before you do or when you do it, it's gonna go out again. They said that it should be replaced.

    The technician was prompt. He took the whole back off and did his dusting. It was the same thing with the second person. They were very well-trained in their fields and very nice about it. They were courteous and wore the mask. The Sears guy said that I would get information on the replacement of my appliance within five days, which happened. The delivery went very smooth and I'm looking at my new refrigerator freezer right now. It sounds a little louder than the other one that I had but it works wonderful. It's a great replacement.

    Before that, I had a hot water tank that the front little plaster portion broke and was gushing water. American Home Shield sent out a man who said that it does happen once in a while and it can be totally replaced. He came back and replaced it. The time before that, there was a leak underneath my sink. AHS sent out a first plumber and he couldn't find the leak at all because it was such a slow leak. It had been leaking for a long time and black mold had developed. I insisted and I sent the pictures, and AHS said that there must be a leak somewhere. So, they sent out another man who got under there. He was very patient. It was a drip every 20 seconds and it took forever to see it. If you weren't looking at it at that split second, you wouldn't have caught it. He totally stopped it so, it was a good thing.

    AHS is a lifesaver. I love it. It's well worth it and I'm very thankful that I had it, especially at the times when I needed it. I've not gone without it since I moved here three and a half years ago so it's worked out well. I've referred many people out here where I live to American Home Shield and several have second homes. I said that whether or not they were renting that home, they still need to have that protected. So they got on the phone right away and contacted AHS and set up a program.

The gentleman called me and told me that he didn't know why he got assigned to my case. He said he was gonna put in there to cancel it with no charge. We did have a situation with our AC and the technicians would call to say when they were gonna be out, what the problem was, and how were they gonna fix it. I've been surprised of how great everything's been with American Home Shield. You sometimes hear horror stories about companies like that.     The company called me the following day and said they were going to replace my boiler and water heater but they said that it needed upgrades and it will cost $1,000. That's ridiculous. I had already upgraded. I'm in the house seven years and when I came in, I had replaced the boiler and they made it earthquake ready. They put all new hoses and a pan on the bottom with a pipe to go out to the street. There was nothing else that had to be upgraded. I feel like the company was totally taking advantage of me. They were gonna replace the boiler but these other people were gonna come in and charge me $1000 and there was nothing really else to do. So, I got it done myself and they agreed to send me a $600 check.

    I was not happy with the whole experience and I'm considering changing companies. American Home Shield has plumbers that are making sure that they get what they wanna get for the job. There was no way $1,000 worth of anything had to be done. They were totally conning me and I felt like they did that because I was a senior and they were taking advantage of me.

    I forgot to change the air filters for my AC. It froze up the unit in the attic, and when it thawed out, it flooded my attic. I tried to call but American Home Shield's whole phone service kinda sucked. It was difficult finding who I needed to talk to in the automated service. I didn't know if it was my voice, but I had an issue with all of them. It's like, “Can you say what's wrong?” and I do, and they were like, “We didn't get that. We didn't get that,” over and over again. I did the online claim. Service Pro Heating and Air came out a lot sooner than they said they were going to ‘cause my ceiling was falling in.     A refrigerator went out so I called American Home Shield, and they sent out a mechanic who fixed it. I had difficulty scheduling because there was a breakdown somewhere in communication between Sears and American Home Shield. They didn't get the correct date so I was put off on getting the repair for a week or so. I've had no problems with American Home Shield's service. It's relatively easy to submit a claim. You submit a claim, then they send somebody out, and if it qualifies, they fix it. But I question sometimes whether I need it, because you pay $600 a year, and sometimes you don't get anything done at all. When you do, it's $75 deductible. So I kinda question whether it's feasible.

    I filed a claim with Home Shield for my refrigerator and my dishwasher. 7 H came out and the service person was fine but I had to wait for 8 to 10 weeks for the part to came in. The part was on backorder and I was without a dishwasher and I could use the refrigerator but not the vegetable bin. They fixed the dishwasher but my refrigerator is leaking again. It's not leaking as much but enough where I have to get it out with a rag. Then, I had to call them for my microwave. It wasn't heating. The tech put a cup of water in there and it heated. He said I could call him back in 30 days. Now, it's not heating again so I had to make another call to Home Shield. They put the request in and I haven't heard from 7 H yet.

    The problem I have with Home Shield is that when I call to report a problem, I have to wait on the line for like an hour before I can speak with someone. It's almost discouraging to call them for something. Thank goodness for these phones where you can just leave them all on and go take care of business. Otherwise, they're very efficient and on top of things.

    We had no AC and it took four days for someone to come out. That pissed me off because, apparently, our home warranty does not protect us over the weekend or federal holidays. I was like, “What happens when your hot water tank goes out on Christmas Eve?” Because I've had that happen, and the other company I had did come out. I was told, "We only work Monday through Friday, and we close at 5:00.” My AC doesn't turn off at 5:00. As an adult, we're not stupid. I'm paying for coverage but you can't help me at night?

    Air Control did come out and fix the issue in about 15 minutes because it was just a little chip that they changed wiring type stuff. He did clear a path through my attic because they'd sprayed insulation up there before we moved in. So that was nice of him. If I need something, AHS is there. My only concern is the emergency response. Maybe this is one of those things that happens because of COVID.

    One thing I thought was weird when we purchase the warranty is the amount of stuff that AHS covers that they shouldn't, like the ceiling fan and microwave. Is it that hard to put in a ceiling fan? Go to Walmart and buy another microwave for $80. I could buy a new one with the amount of money I would pay for you to come out. These are little things that I don't think they should cover because people abuse such things. But we picked a big plan so it covers everything.

    The contractor never came back the second time because they said there was nothing they could do. When they came the first time, they augered the plumbing line. They said that should fix it for about a year and the only way to totally fix it is to redo my entire sewage system, which I don't have the budget for. It only lasted less than a day. I was doing some research and it said some of the reasons for the issues with the plumbing could be because there's supposed to be a vent on the roof. If that's covered and it's not getting the air flow, then that messes with the system. Then there are a couple other things. So I called back and mentioned it to them. I was told that couldn't be it and that there's no point in him coming back. But American Home Shield has been great. I was eventually going to call back to see if it’s possible to send us to a different company because when I googled, there seem to be some other options.

    I got up in the morning to shower and had no hot water. I called American Home Shield and they sent Molitor over. They did an outstanding job. They had to replace the water heater and they did that in quite a timely fashion. They were very professional. They were very nice people. Afther that, I had another claim.     I've never owned a dishwasher before and the technician showed me what the issue was and that I can take steps for preventative maintenance to address it in the future. He also told me that there's a trap that I can use to clean out the dishwasher when food gets stuck in there. He showed me how to do it. He was also very COVID-conscious. He wore his mask the whole time and used gloves. It was a safe experience and the issue was resolved pretty quickly. It was great.

    I was having low water pressure and I thought that it was because of a leak. But the contractor checked it out and said that it was because of my pressure valve. I also had a backup in a sink. But American Home Shield said that they would not cover the replacement of the PVC valve until it's 100% failure. So I'm going to have dribbles and drabs until it stops working altogether. From that point of view, American Home Shield failed me because I have very low water pressure and it's because of this valve that that needs to be replaced. I don't even take showers anymore. That's how low my water pressure is because of this valve. I can't use my outdoor hoses because the water pressure is so poor. I'm very dissatisfied because it's not covering what I need it to cover and I still had to pay 100 bucks for the rep to come out.

    The other part that I didn't like about American Home Shield is their customer service. Customer service is farmed out to another country. I knew it was a English speaker of another language each time that I spoke with American Home Shield. So they didn't quite understand what I was trying to explain to them. There was always like a translation delay and I don't have a problem with English speakers of other languages. But as far as customer service is concerned, the customer is usually upset because whatever isn't working, and then you have somebody else who has to translate two or three different languages in their head before they get to the one that you're speaking to is kinda frustrating.

    We had water that was leaking in the area where our hot water heater was. We thought it was the hot water heater itself. But when the technician came out, they checked it thoroughly and it turned out that it wasn’t the hot water heater. We talked about different scenarios and then finally, we filled up the washing machine and let it drain out and that was the culprit. The plumbing was stopped up. There is a drain pipe for excess water for the AC unit, and a overflow tube for the hot water heater in case of an emergency to drain that hot water heater. The pipe that goes down into the sewer system was clogged up and they unclogged it.

    The technician was very friendly and very knowledgeable. They did everything that he could until we finally pinpoint what the problem was. He took that hot water heater part and showed me that it wasn't leaking from the hot water heater. He was very thorough. He didn't have a roto-rooter on the truck so he went back to his office, and got one. Then he came back and cleaned the drain. Since then, we haven't had any more issues.

    Submitting claims with Home Shield is very easy. You already have your user ID, name and password. You log in, and then you pick the category of service that you require. And then once you do that, you get either an email or text saying who is going to do the service, and then they will notify you. Shortly after that, the service company notifies you and then they set up a time when they will be available to come out.

    I've had a few of the servicemen come in. They're very respectful and neat. They were patient with me because I get all wigged out. They were understanding. I talk very simply so they get it. Then they said, “Okay, that's good information,” and then they knew exactly what to do. And I've had good service the times that I have called and the different service providers.

    If something is broken they won't be there like the emergency room or the fire department. They have jobs and schedules too. But people just expect them to just be right there and fix it right now. I don't see that as being a problem. It's within one to two days, and if I need a part, they say two weeks because that's their business policy. But then within a couple of days, the call me and ask, “Okay, the part came in, can we come over?” It's always like a big surprise. I'm like, “Okay, two weeks. Okay, I can do this for two weeks. I can do this.” But then it never goes to two weeks. So, I always like and love American Home Shield on Facebook, because there is a lot of negative people out there that expect them to be at their beck and call. I don't expect that. I just turn it off and wait until they come.

    A technician came out and got the parts on order, which wasn't allowing the blowers in the upstairs unit to come on. But according to the ticket we had back in September, it was diagnosed that that board was bad and yet the ticket shows that they replaced something up in the attic, and it ran fine for three weeks. It was a Monday that I noticed that I kept hearing the outside unit running. I went upstairs and there was nothing blowing. I shut the unit off 'cause there was moisture around the unit outside. I assumed it was iced up. I left it off until the contractor came out on Wednesday.

    I don't understand why the original technician came out and wrote that the circuit board needed to be replaced, and then when the follow-up tech came out a couple of days later, all he did was replace a contactor on the outside unit. And I think they said something about a switch in the attic. He bypassed it and got the air running. There's no heat upstairs until they come back next Thursday, but that's not a problem. I've had no problems with Home Shield. They're doing fantastic. They are quick and respond timely. I'm very pleased with the company that we were dealing with prior to this.

    I like the peace of mind brought about by my home warranty. If two of your appliances break down at the same time, then you're not out of thousands of dollars. And even though I haven't used American Home Shield very much in the past couple of years, I think they've gotten better. They sometimes used to be difficult to deal with and would send out third-rate companies. But recently when I've used them, they've been excellent. When our furnace seemed to be leaking water, a technician from United Air Temp came very promptly. He was very thorough and did a fantastic job. I was very happy.

    One of the things that is a direct result of having a warranty company is they don't change the appliances. They try to repair them and repair them. But they have changed some appliances over the years. And it is expensive. If you are a saver, the home warranty might be a better way of doing it. Also, customer service is very important in responding to customers. I get the impression that they've been making an effort in that direction.

    There was a leak from a hot water pipe coming out of the house and going into the hot water tank. I called American Home Shield from the contract that I have with them and talked with one of their agents. I went through the necessary process and paid the initial fee. Then they called the contractor. The contractor called me, set up an appointment and came out to do the work. They were professional and they did an excellent job. They gave me a receipt of the work that they did and told me that as far as their work was concerned, I had 60 days to contact them if anything went wrong with their work on the pipe that they repaired. The repair kept the leak from dripping in my home.

    I got the warranty as something that was included in the purchase of my house and I took advantage of it twice. AHS has taken me out of two difficult situations and I'm pretty satisfied. Right after I moved around November of last year, I had issues with my dryer. The repair guy came out and he checked it. Unfortunately, the parts were no longer made for that so they purchased a new dryer and AHS reimbursed me completely.

    The last time, I had issues with the washer, and AHS scheduled the appointments really quickly. It's not like I have to wait three weeks for the contractor to come out. The technician came out twice and the first time was to check the washer. At that point, he told me that there were two things that were wrong with it. He said that he was gonna ask for the parts and gave me a time frame on when the parts would arrive. He was very professional. He was only here for 10 minutes and he was done. He also had his face mask on and he asked me to clear the area out for him so he's not touching anything. It was pretty good.

    I had a claim with American Home Shield that had something to do with plumbing issues. The process was very easy and straightforward. The contractor was phenomenal. I loved him. He was very knowledgeable and very professional. I'm a doctor, and when he came in, he actually did more COVID practices than I did. I was like, “Oh, my God, this is phenomenal.” He was polite the entire time. He walked in, saw what I asked about, and he said, “Is there a stand-in shower right above?” When I asked how he knew, he said, “Yup, I've seen this before.” He knew what he was doing.     My drain in the kitchen sink was backing up. It was the contractor's their second time out and what they had to do was cut the pipes and put some new pipes in there because it was all clogged up. However, it had the little gunk inside of the pipes and they left some of the gunk that was there. It had it smelling really bad. But other than that, everything was fine.

    I had a leak in my powder room. The contractor supposedly fixed the problem but a week later, the pipe came apart because he put the wrong length. We had to call American Home Shield again and they sent a contractor out. The contractor didn't have the right metal for the pipe so he put a temporary pipe. American Home Shield just responded yesterday that they aren't going to cover the contractor coming back out. We have to pay for the contractor to come back and put the permanent pipe in because they don't cover matching. My experience hasn't been good.

    From what I heard, American Home Shield has a good service that's why I chose them. However, my dishwasher did not get fixed. The contractor came out maybe two weeks ago but by me being a single person, I don't have a lot of dishes to wash so it took me about two weeks to collect enough dishes to see if it worked. The dishwasher ran for five hours and I had to unplug it in order to cut it off. It wouldn't cut off and it kept giving me this error message. I looked it up in the book and it says there's some leak. I don't know what the guy did, but it did not get fixed. He was there for a long time. He pulled it out and seemed to know what he was doing. He said he found a piece of something shoved up somewhere. I didn't realize until he left that he never turned it on to see if it was working. This is the first time I used American Home Shield and I'm gonna have to call them back and try to get the guy to come out without them charging me again because the guy didn't do what he was supposed to do.

    I got crummy service on the air conditioning call that I had and I escalated it because I know somebody over there. American Home Shield got it taken care of. They got a different company to come out and everything was fine. It was a simple matter and they handled it. So, I’m happy. I’ve got AHS for five years and in the first couple years, I didn't use it at all. About a year and a half ago, my faucet went out in my wet bar. The guy came out and said that he couldn’t fix the faucet and I would have to order a $200 faucet.

    My house is a very well-built quality home and it has nice fixtures. I had the brushed stainless and the faucet that was on there was probably $800. I said that I don't expect the faucet to be replaced with the same quality necessarily but I'm not going to let him put a $200 faucet in my bar. So I paid my $75 and after I bought the faucet, I called the same guy to come back out. He said he couldn't come out. I'd have to put in another order and pay another 75 for him to come out and install. So I complained about that. AHS may have refunded my first $75 but I had to pay somebody else to come out and put it in. It was aggravating. There should be better than a $200 faucet put on when they're replacing a quality product. I didn’t want a Home Depot faucet. But everything else is fine and I like American Home Shield.

    It wasn't getting cool even though the air conditioning units had been on for a few hours. I called AHS and then this gentleman from Air Climate Solutions came. He said that a compressor blew and he was here for 20 minutes repairing it. I asked the guy how much the part was and he said it was like $264, just for that part. I would’ve freaked out if I ever had to pay for that. AHS has been absolutely superb with me. I've had a few things over the year that have blown my mind and they've taken care of it.     My dishwasher wasn’t working and I tried calling Home Shield on the phone and I was on the phone for three hours. It was ridiculous. The claim reps were terrible. They did not give me the correct information. When I put the claim through, they kept giving me previous notes that we talked about. They weren't up to date on what we were talking about. This happened two times. I was very upset because I just wanted my dishwasher fixed but they refused to fix it because it was gonna cost more money. Now, I have to go out, look for a new dishwasher and get the dimensions. But I would rather have them fix it. It was repairable. I did get my money, but it was more work for me. Also, they were very unknowledgeable and unprofessional. I couldn't understand half of them. But their contractors were great.

    My air conditioner was making a horrible noise, and you couldn't keep it running. I called American Home Shield and the first people they put me in contact with did not do wall air conditioners. I told them I live in a condo, on the second floor, so they should have known it was a wall. But when they came, they said that they don't do them. So, it went back to AHS again. The first one said it was completed and nothing was done.

    The second time, AHS sent out YAZD, and they came. Once they heard the noise, they immediately knew what it was. Some part of it was broken and it also needed a new motor. So once they got it, they had it in within 15 minutes, and it worked. Also, I was surprised because the house is about 25 years old but they were able to find it. They were very professional and they came on time. The first time they came, I didn't hear the phone because I am 86 and hard of hearing, and they waited outside to see if somebody would let them in. Finally, they sent me a text saying that they were here, and I panicked. I was here. But we rescheduled and I made sure I was out in front when they came. So, it was fine. The office staff was very nice. The lady was very understanding and the people they sent were very good. I have had American Home Shield for 40 years and it's been a godsend.

    Major Appliance Repair couldn't fix my refrigerator. It is still not working. I told him that my refrigerator was not freezing. It's hot as the heater. He did an excellent job, but he couldn't fix. He called LG to give him a code, and they didn't give him a code. He was the third person that came out. I've been out of a refrigerator that long. American Home Shield ain't telling me anything. I've been calling them and they just told me to call our attorney. I'm very dissatisfied.

He really tried to figure out the issue with my oven and returned with a part that was helpful in getting my oven to work properly.     My most recent claim was for the oven door. It was locked and it wouldn't open. We couldn't clear the error message. Submitting the claim was a pretty painless process. It was quick. It took me less than 30 seconds to complete the actual claim on the website. Everything worked out pretty smoothly. The person that was there when the contractor came told me that he was really professional and quick. He was able to resolve the issue with no problem. The oven door is fully functional now.

    We also filed a claim when our dishwasher went out earlier in the year. Someone came out but they no longer made the part for the dishwasher. So we purchased a new dishwasher following American Home Shield's process. We requested the reimbursement but we haven't been reimbursed yet. But it's because even though we ordered the dishwasher on July the 10th, it's just being delivered today. Overall, American Home Shield is reliable. It comes in handy at moments when you're kind of in a crunch and otherwise wouldn't be able to get service or would have an exorbitant amount to have to pay to get things fixed around the house.
