Appliance Service was assigned by AHS to come out for the refrigerator and it was more than a week before they could get to the refrigerator. Then, it was reassigned to another company because I had another appliance that failed within the week. The oven control board went out. AHS assigned both appliances to Sears. Sears came out and fixed the stove within two days of being assigned. They diagnosed the problem, found a repair part, and installed it. I asked about the refrigerator and this technician said Sears has different technicians for different areas. For the refrigerator, it had to be a refrigerant-certified technician. Sears was three weeks out just to get someone out to look at it.
I called American Home Shield back on that and it was a 40-minute wait time to talk to another customer rep. They reassigned it to Samsung and when I called the number that they provided for Samsung, all I got was a dropbox. I called that number twice and I got the same thing. And I never received a call back for them so I think they don't do repairs. Eventually, I talked to the customer rep and it was reassigned to the original company.
The tech came out within two days to take a look at it. They diagnosed the issue and said it was unrepairable. They reported it to AHS and they sent me an email. I applied for the e-card from Home Depot and I ordered a new refrigerator. But due to the virus, there's a huge delay in shipping. It was difficult getting a contractor assigned and talking to customer service but AHS did exactly what they were supposed to do. They troubleshot my equipment, found it couldn't be repaired, and provided an avenue for a replacement.

My wife accidentally broke the microwave and it wouldn't shut therefore we couldn’t use it. She put a claim in with American Home Shield and a technician came out a few days later. He was with Apex Appliance and he was professional. He knocked it out in a timely manner and everything went smoothly. It was really a streamlined process. It was a quick and simple procedure. Everything is fine. I also had other claims with American Home Shield when I first bought my house. With the warranty, I like not having to pay out-of-pocket for a lot of stuff. It worked well and as expected.

I called Home Shield and the rep did a good job. She gave me a time and date when to expect the contractor, and then, Barker Services called me. They set up an appointment, told me they couldn't make it until a certain day, and they showed up and showed up on time. The guy was respectful, professional, did the job, and did a great job and left. Excellent guy. There was a broken plumbing pipe. He fixed that and did all the plumbing, and then fixed the toilet, and installed all that. It was leaking for months. Now, there are no more leaks. I checked it on several occasions. I would definitely recommend Home Shield use Barker more often.
The only thing is, the experience is sometimes great. And then sometimes, the only overwhelming issue is sometimes getting someone on the phone. And then staying on the phone waiting, and then having to explain over and over what's going on. With this issue of the plumbing, before Barkers came, they called someone else. And that company was trying to soak me for an additional money. This is why I recommend someone else to come out. Barkers was professional about it and fixed the issue, whereas the other people that Home Shield had was an hour plus away. And then when they got here, their assessment was totally different than what I knew what was wrong with it, versus Barkers'. When they came out, they were in agreement with me versus those other plumbers that Home Shield used out of town.
In addition, Barkers' equipment was professional, whereas the other people, "Yeah. Oh, I gotta go back, and I didn't bring this tool or that tool." And then it took a lot of my time up because I had to take off work. That was an issue for me. I would not use those guys. My personal recommendation is to use someone in town that's closer because when Home Shield sent those other ones, they had to leave, and then they can't come until the end of the week. They're an hour and a half away so it made the process longer and more difficult. Other than that, the last lady from Home Shield that helped when I called in and told her what was going on was really helpful.

We just moved in and American Security & Locks came to rekey my locks. They did a good job. They had given me two of the right key and one of the wrong key. So they came out the next day to drop off the right key. The claims process with American Home Shield was easy. The company pretty much came out the next day after I called. It wasn't very long at all.

The contractors that came for the plumbing issue fixed the immediate problem. They had to replace the sensor element because the heater keeps going out. However, he said he was concerned because he doesn't know if how long that fix is gonna stay in place because the heater is old. He said he could already tell that it's filling up with some form of particulate. Because whenever the heater comes on and the water starts churning, there's like a cracking and popping sound going on a lot. But their job was to come out and just fix. He said that they were going to recommend that it gets replaced because the heater is pretty much on its last legs. But for their professionalism and everything they came out to do, he was absolutely fantastic.
I'm feeling good about the service of American Home Shield for the most part. I was a little disheartened only for the fact that the contractors said they were going to recommend a replacement. Because they have no doubt that they're going to get called out again very soon about it. But I was really expecting from everything he told me to possibly have it replaced. But overall I am satisfied with American Home Shield just on this particular incident. I'm just right now waiting for the heater to fully go out again.
I’m military. We also have people routinely come out and they give us free inspections on our appliances. But for the HVAC system, called twice for separate repairs and we've had a call for the microwave twice that has gotten repaired and then replaced. The warranty has been very beneficial knowing that everything is covered for the most part and that it's gonna be a lot cheaper to pay the $100 for the servicing fee and $80 a month as opposed to multiple thousands of dollars for appliance repair.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

I had a lot of stuff done with American Home Shield over the last couple of months. I last had them out for my garbage disposal. They also came out for a dryer after I smelled something burning. The tech for the dryer came out and was very nice. he was on time, pulled out the dryer, and looked through everything. He said there was a lot of hair inside and it was burning. They were in a piece inside with little holes. He took that out, cleared the hair out, and put the piece back in. American Home Shield has been really good to me. I've been with them a long time and they've taken care of my appliances and other things. Their coverage has been well worth the cost. I always recommend them to my coworkers.

I cancelled one homeowner's insurance because it was so awful. And with Home Shield, it was much easier. I had my first claim with them with my dryer. They give you the option to make your own appointment. But I'm one of these people that believe if I pay for a service, you're gonna do the work. So, I made them choose the provider that would take care of the issue. It was a bit of a problem getting the people over here. They had to reschedule because they had a major issue. However, they were very professional and fixed. They had to order a part and it was all done. The contractor was very good. He was very polite and he kept me informed. He apologized that he couldn't come the day that happened. There was some major issue with wiring. He apologized, followed up, ordered the part and got it fixed. Home Shield is better than Select Home, however, more expensive. But sometimes, you have to pay a little more to get a little better.

My most recent claims I submitted with American Home Shield were regarding my air conditioner, my faucet and garbage disposal. It was easy submitting a claim, but the problem that I had was for the air conditioner, it also needed the ductwork to be done and reviewed. I was not able to do that in one claim. So I would have to pay $75 for the air conditioner and the ductwork and I wasn't happy about that. I just did the AC. It’s either one or the other. But the contractors were very professional.
The air is working, the garbage disposal is, but the faucet, I had not heard back anything about it. Because it has low pressure in it and the technician said that he was gonna reach out to American Home Shield. So the faucet was not fixed. But AHS is great. I’ve had them for three years and I'm satisfied with the services. It's a great company to have. I would recommend them.

I just bought the home. The sellers paid for the home warranty, but I am so delighted to have it. When my washer drains, the drainage stopped up. There wasn't a lot of water to drain out. That's why we needed plumbing. I submitted the claim to Home Shield over the phone and it was extremely easy. Bubba's Plumbing came out and was able to resolve the issue. The tech even looked at another appliance that I'm gonna have to call in on. He didn't do anything to it, but he looked at it just at our request. It was a great experience.
We moved in, and we love the house, and we're trying not to fall in love with it too much because it's an older house. We're waiting on something else. But we already bought a home. It's just too small. We know our house is up. But then we suddenly developed a leak in the bathtub coming through the wall. So, I would call Home Shield again. They're just what we needed.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and they responded back very quickly and had it all taken care of. It was for the icemaker in my fridge, my dishwasher and my microwave. So far, it appears everything is working functionally and everything's good. Michael, the guy who came, was wonderful. He explained everything in detail to me and repaired the icemaker. It’s working but the water is coming out slower. I haven't implemented what he wanted me to add to my wash for the washing machine though because my dishwasher still smells. He said to use Lemi Shine. When I add that, it's going to improve.
We got referred to American Home Shield by a friend and that referral was supposed to give ourselves as well as our friend a $25 Amazon card, and that has not occurred. I haven't called AHS to follow up on it because I don't wanna be on hold for 25 minutes. It's easy to submit a claim online. It’s quick and painless but if you call in, it’s a 25-minute wait, and they don't give the option for a callback. I tried twice and both times, it was over a 25-minute wait. It said it would exceed 25 minutes so it could have been 45 minutes. I didn't have the time to sit on hold so I just hung up. That is something I'd love to address with them. It is something they can probably improve on and they can do that. I know other places do it.
American Home Shield is very timely in terms of the online submission for a claim and the company that they utilized was efficient. They didn't just come out and repair the problem but also gave suggestions or solutions. I've never experienced that with any other warranty company so that was a good thing. The technician seemed knowledgeable. It was a good experience. I've had times in the past where the technicians come out and they looked at me like I was speaking a different language when I told them what was going on with the problem. That doesn't give you a lot of confidence that it's going to get resolved if they don't even know. They act like it's foreign to them.

My washing machine broke two months ago. I didn't have a washer for so long that after about six weeks, I had to go buy a new one. But we still waited on American Home Shield. Then two weeks ago, they said it cannot be fixed, even though it was a relatively new washer. When the tech came here, he had to replace a part and we waited weeks for that to come in. But when it came in, it wasn't the part. So he ordered another part. When that came in weeks later, he said it was not gonna work. It was not gonna be fixed and that he needed to let American Home Shield know that.
We waited a week or so and then American Home Shield got back to us and said to go buy a new washer. But it had been about two months, so we had already gone and bought one. They're supposed to refund us now for the washer that we had bought. My husband sent them the receipt a few days ago. We're just waiting to hear from them now. But it was terrible that we would have to wait weeks for a part on something that we used everyday.

We called for a plumber and a air conditioning person because we had a leak in the guest bathroom. When the plumber came, he said it was an air condition plumbing thing and it wasn't something he can do. Then he left, but we still got charged 75 bucks. We got charged another 75 bucks the next day for the air condition people to come out and fix the pipe. It was like a double charge for the same concern. But the tech was pretty quick and concise. AHS has done a gret job overall.

Submitting claims to American Home Shield is easy. We call in if we have something broken. Though it takes a while for them to pick up and at times I spend 30 minutes or longer on hold, the reps are courteous when I get to speak to them. The techs who come are very professional and they explain things. After they finish, they clean up after themselves and show us what they've done. They make sure what they've done works. If they have parts that need to be taken, they'll take those parts. Home Shield is friendly and they always know exactly what needs to be done.

I called Home Shield for my water heater and the tech they sent out replaced it. But he cut the gas off to the line and he never put it back on. I called Home Shield last week and I told them that when I cut my central heater on, I would hear it click on the wall unit but it would not start. They told me to check the fuse thing before I make a service call. I clicked the fuse thing on the wall to engage that amperage, or whatever it is, and the whole central air unit would come on for about two minutes and then cut back off. I called and made the second service call. A tech came out and he found the problem right away. He said that the gas was not cut back on from when the water heater guy came out. It's been excellent since the second tech came. Home Shield helped me out and they make it pretty easy. Even if there is a waiting time, one of their guys would call whenever there's an opening.

When Chesapeake initially called me to schedule an appointment, they gave me a time frame between 2:00 and 4:00. At around 10 o'clock the morning of the set date, the technician called and said he would be at the house in about five minutes. I told him what my timeframe was and he said they only do four-hour timeframes. Then, I told him I would be there in about 15 minutes and he said he could wait a few minutes but if I was not there, he would have to reschedule somebody out. He was there when I got to the house. I explained again and he said they do some two-hour windows but my schedule was from 10:00 to 2:00. I knew he wasn't right but I was able to make it there, so it was fine. Also, the service was great.
My experience with Home Shield has been well but it takes a long time for me to get through. I was trying to get through to them last weekend for a billing issue. I have Home Shield on two of my properties and on my last payment on both of them, the payment increased and I'm trying to figure out why. I was on hold for like 45 minutes. Finally, I hung up. I never got to speak with anybody because I was on hold for so long.

I've had a couple of problems and not having an idea of how it was gonna get fixed. But Home Shield came and fixed it. After I moved to this house, I was sitting here and part of the ceiling fell in and it was leaking badly. I called them to see if they would send somebody out to look at it. They sent someone out, fixed it, and it was good. I was really happy with their responsiveness. I've had simple things like my water heater went off and they sent somebody out to turn that back on who told me why the pilot went off. So it's been nice to have a place to start when something goes off that I can call.

We had a couple of options that were recommended to us by our Realtor. I did a relative price comparison and I've done my research for serviceability and customer satisfaction, and ultimately ended up winding on AHS based on the combination of those factors. But in submitting a claim, it would be nice to have the ability to edit a claim through the online portal for addition of additive services. It would be an improvement in user experience. For context, we recently had a plumber come visit that I had booked for services. Between the time of booking and their arrival, our garbage disposal stopped working as well. So I had made an attempt online to go and edit the claim to include the garbage disposal. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to do so. I called in and I was put on hold for about 40 minutes. It was understandable because of call volumes, but quite a bit of wait time.
The technician was able to add the garbage disposal. However, upon arrival, the plumber didn't see it in their initial work order, and then they themselves had to call it to their service to confirm that it was on the paper, and it was. So they were able to address it. Other than that, everything that AHS listed on their site and everything they provided their customers in their early exploratory phases was very thorough. We also had re-keying done and the technician was very professional and very thorough. He was very safe per COVID-19 protocol. So I was very satisfied.

Monday was Labor Day and a holiday, and the techs came first thing Tuesday morning, which was nice. But they turned their phones off on weekends, so I couldn't even ask them for emergency service. AHS was on top of my claim though and the fact that I couldn't get service right away wasn't their fault. After that, I had the techs out again because of a very small drip in one of the fixtures. They came out again quickly and fixed it. They were good workers. Other than that, the first situation I had with my air conditioner didn't work out very well. It took the vendor a long time to respond to call me back and it was a very bad contractor.

Matt’s Plumbing's technician was really fast. When he was done, I thought he would get a part. He worked so fast. I've put in three different plumbing requests. One of them was a bit sketchy, because I felt like the last one that was done was a fix for the same exact problem that I've reported before. But I didn't know how to express what was going on. This was the third visit I've had from them for different things. On the second visit, I felt I was too responsible for diagnosing my own issue. I felt they looked at exactly what I told them, even though I didn't really know what was going on. I felt like I paid for nothing on that visit. But for this last visit, they were really good. And the first time, they fixed the problem. They're very responsive. When I called them to schedule an appointment, I always get an appointment within a very reasonable timeframe.
At the time when I was looking for a home warranty company, I have other friends that are using Home Shield and they were very happy with the results. And for the most part, I have been too. Whenever I’ve had problems, it wasn't with the responsiveness of Home Shield, it was with the companies that service. For instance, I had them come out to do something about the water line in my refrigerator. I paid $75 for this man to tell me what parts to get from Lowe's and fix it myself. He didn't actually fix the problem. That was early on. I've had Home Shield for three years now. In the last year or so, I've seen a drastic improvement in the level of service I'm getting.
I've only had two questionable services. I was like, "Okay, wait a minute. If they're gonna keep coming out and telling me how to fix it, then what am I paying for?" But the last two requests I put in, the guy came out and fixed my HVAC. I woke up hot at two in the morning and put in a Home Shield request. I called them via the number I was provided, first thing in the morning, and they had somebody out by 2 o'clock. The guy came out and fixed the AC in 15 minutes. It was great service. It was the same with the plumbing from Matt’s. They came out really fast. They fixed it well and quickly.
The tech has been here several times now. I know him by name. I mentioned a couple of other things and he suggested things that I could do to improve the quality of the water and stuff like that around the house. So, that was great. I am recommending them to other people. I posted when the guy came to fix the toilets because the service was so great and how quickly I could get somebody out here. It was really good.

I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and I've had some problems with them. This time, I was about ready to cancel. My air conditioner went out and they didn't wanna pay for that. It is covered because I had maintenance done on it two times a year. Even the folks that did the maintenance on my air condition called AHS and told them that I kept up everything I was supposed to do because they were the ones who did it. AHS was trying to say I didn't keep up my part of the contract, but I had a letter from the folks. It was Pendley and they're recommended. They're good people. After we went through a couple of rounds, I went and talked to a lawyer about it. AHS finally decided to pay me part of it. They didn't pay it like it was supposed to have been paid.
Sears came for the refrigerator and they took a long time to get here. They fixed one part and then, they didn't fix the icemaker. He had to order another part and it took about three weeks. Then he came back and fixed the icemaker. I told them before the refrigerator went out that the refrigerator wasn’t making any noise. Now, it has the roaring noise and it never had that before. I called to see if I could get them back out and see what they could do about that because the noise bothers me. The service was good. The technician came in and was very respectable. They didn't wear a mask, though. They very seldom wear one and you're supposed to have your mask on when you come in my house. But he was a very nice person.
I'm satisfied that the tech got the refrigerator fixed but I'm not satisfied about the noise that was left and with the time that it took to fix my refrigerator. I had to go buy a portable refrigerator because I lost my food and stuff in it and AHS didn't pay for it. I was without a washing machine and I had to go to the washing man to wash my clothes. AHS didn't offer to refund my money. I didn't have any hot water and I had to go to my daughter's house to take a bath. I had a hard time but I'm trying to stick with AHS because I've had them so long.

I was on hold for 20 minutes. I spoke to a lady in the Philippines. I asked her the same thing. She said, "Oh, we can't. You get whoever picks up the phone." "Well, let me talk to a supervisor because I don't think that's true.” She put me on hold, and then she hung the phone up. So, my experience with Home Shield is terrible. It would be great to pick up the phone and actually be able to talk to someone who speaks proper English or pick up the phone and actually talk to someone than having to be on hold for 45 minutes plus every single time.

While I was on the phone with them, they found me this new company, then they called over and said that there was an appointment the next day, so I called to follow up with them to make sure. I talked to the owner and he said that he didn't know how they said that he had an appointment that day because nobody ever called him. But that was settled and he ended up fitting me in.
He came out the next day and when he got there, he said that he was only there to fix one thing that he was told about. But I was asking him what was going on with the toilet and if he was going to fix that. He said that wasn't on his order, so I pulled up the American Home Shield request and there it was. There were two things that he needed to see about fixing. So, he went on and fixed the toilet issue because he had seen it on the paperwork. He also said that he would just be going back and forth with American Home Shield. But that was kind of interesting because at first, he said he was going to come back to do the other part. So, that was irritating.
Other than that, if I have an air conditioning problem and AHS sends someone out, if I call again, that particular company should be the same company coming out unless they're not available or there was a bad review from me about them. It shouldn't be that AHS will be the one saying that the vendor can't come so they'll pick the people who will come, especially if you have an established service with that particular air conditioning company.

American Home Shield's claim submission process is user-friendly. When I contact their customer service, their reps have been knowledgeable. Recently, Flowright Plumbing came as AHS's contractor to handle a ventilation issue in my household. The lumber recommended that I go back to the person who sold me the home to get the issue fixed because the ventilation problem was not covered by Home Shield. AHS should cover roofs as well.

The only challenge was it took them about five days to complete the job and I have grandchildren so we had to make do. Other than that, I'm very glad that I am participating in Home Shield's program.

American Home Shield seems so undermanned. It takes forever to get through to them right now because they're blaming it on the virus. Their service right now sucks. I had a claim on a dishwasher and I finally ended up getting it. It took me almost a month to do it. The service guy, in fact, just got it installed this morning, so I'm happy with that part of it, but I'm unhappy with the parade to there. It took them over a week to make a decision when they knew there wasn't any parts available for my old one because it was built in the mid-90s. They knew that upfront and it took over a week for them to call me and tell me that they were gonna okay it. They gave me a sum of money to work with and then we went and got it in gear from there. But I don't know that I'm staying with them after this.
Good afternoon Tom,
Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent service request for your dishwasher. I show on your account that you accepted the cash in lieu and the check has been mailed out. We apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused you and your family. Have a great day and please stay safe.

J-Star sent out David for my plumbing issue. He was good. He had his mask on and he never got close to me. When we were speaking, he made sure he was 6 feet or more apart. I feel really well about the service. Someone else came out before him, and they didn't fix the problem. They told me that something else needed to be done. But David fixed it.
When I had a problem with my ceiling, American Home Shield never sent anyone that could fix it. They didn't follow up and I couldn't get them on the phone because they put me on hold for hours. So I just gave up. My ceiling still needs to be patched. The water came down and messed up my sheetrock. So it has a big bubble and it’s noticeable. They told me they were gonna call me back, but no one never called me back.

The air conditioner wouldn't work at all. The guy came out, went up in the attic and talked to us. This is something that happened before and I had another company come out and repair it. That was before I had American Home Shield. There's a little relay type circuit board that runs the fan motor. That circuit board went bad. What the guy did was he had to order parts but he put a jumper in there. It turned the fan on but the only problem was that it ran constantly and never shut off. He didn't tell my wife that it was gonna do that so she was alarmed that it never shut off.
He called me on Friday and he wanted to come out but I was working at that time. We set it up for Saturday. He told me he was gonna be out there between 2:00 and 5:00. He called me back later and said he didn’t remember what time he had told me but that he was on an emergency call. I said he told me between 2:00 and 5:00. He said he'd be here in a little bit and he showed up by 5:00. He put the board in and fixed it. I’m very satisfied with the experience. The only problem I have with it was that we didn't have a time as to when the part was supposed to be in.

I asked High Priority Plumbing for a recall because one of the toilets is still not working. That was a week ago and I still haven't heard back. I called Home Shield. They said that they would issue the recall. I'm going to call them back today because it has been a week and no one has come back out. Other than that, Home Shield's service is usually great. They’re fast and efficient. They usually send really good companies out. Also, the flat $100 dollar fee is beneficial to us. You can go online and do everything. It's convenient. You don't have to wait for a phone call. The follow through is usually pretty good.

Processing the claim with AHS was easy but that the company that they used, Island Breeze Heating and Air Conditioning, was so busy. It took a week for them to come out. But I love them. They're a great company. It's probably why they're so busy ‘cause they’re so good. Our heat came on our HVAC unexpectedly in the heat of the day and it was resolved about four days ago. They replaced the thermostat.
We've used American Home Shield for the last 15 years. With any new homeowner, the investment is definitely worth it over the long haul. We had a water heater went out and our dryer has gone out several times but each time, American Home Shield does what they're supposed to do. They get a service guy out here as quick as they can. The problems are usually rectified within a week to 10 days on the average.

Ace's Garage Door Repair & Installation was fine. There's a safety beam so that the garage door goes up. Something was in the way and it wasn't aligned properly. They fixed it right away and it was great. However, I had not the best experience with the AC. American Home Shield has always been really good but for my particular problem, they acted like they never had to face this situation before which seemed a little bit weird to me. I'm a realtor and I give a lot of my clients American Home Shield coverage. It's not that I was unhappy with them. I just thought this particular situation was not resolved as quickly as it really should have been so I complained about it.
This was for an air conditioning problem which just got repaired. The repair situation went fine but getting American Home Shield to let me use the vendor that I had requested was the problem. It was really dumb. I own a rental and we had this huge heatwave about a month ago. The AC didn't seem to be working at the same time that one of the ACs at my own house quit cooling. It's a condo so I put a claim in with the condo. I got assigned a vendor and they were able to come out that same week which was fine. It turned out that we realized that we didn't need them. They had these rolling blackouts that PG&E had been doing to make sure that they were fighting the fires out here. They had done that in the areas where the condo was and the breaker got tripped. It wasn't the AC that was broken at all. It was the breaker that had to be reset.
At the same time, my AC went out in my bedroom area. I asked American Home Shield, "Can't I use the same vendor that I had been assigned to for the condo?" They told me they'd never had that situation occur, asking a vendor being switched from one property to the other. Instead, they tried to find a different vendor. They couldn't find one to cover me until the following week. It was really stupid. I could already have somebody who said that they could come to me so long as I called American Home Shield and switched the address but they couldn't seem do that. It took me a week to get that to happen. In the meantime, I had no AC. The appointment that I had for the condo went away because they couldn't change the address in time.
This went on and on and on. Luckily, I had a service rep to go to and they tried to resolve the situation. They have a conflict resolution department and they assigned somebody to me. Finally, in the end, after probably an extra week, they were able to switch over that same vendor to me because they haven't been able to find me somebody anyway. They were very slow in resolving the situation claiming that they've never had this situation before. That doesn't seem so plausible. You'd think that it'd be easy to switch from one property to the other if it's the same customer. They could change the address and give me the same vendor. They were holding the spot so that I didn't have to wait longer to have my own situation looked at. The delay was not the AC company's fault. It was really with American Home Shield that I was most annoyed with that they couldn't help me get to these folks weeks earlier so that at least the process could have been started sooner. I was put through undue distress.
Terrie,

When I submit claims online, which I don't always wanna do, it's very easy. When I do it on the phone, sometimes it's very frustrating because the people that I'm talking to don't seem to understand English or speak it very well. There's a comprehension barrier. I've had several issues: number one, my dishwasher, which may have been correct by their side; number two, my washing machine; number three, the toilet. In each issue, American Home Shield claimed that the reason the appliances weren't working was because we overloaded them, which I find to be extremely funny because how do you overload a dishwasher? Me and my wife are senior citizens and we never stuff things in there. But that's what they're claiming, so I find that very interesting.
Then we have a Kohler toilet. It has two push buttons on the top, one for low flow, one for high. They claimed that when we pushed the button down, we broke the handle, the little plastic thing that did it, which was why it wasn't working anymore. Also, it wasn't shutting off so there was a flow issue. The guy has come back and he didn't see it when he was there. He said he fixed it, but I woke up this morning and it was happening again. I had to call back a different company. The guy from Spartan Plumbing walked in, whipped up the part, and fixed it. That should've been done the first time. That's what I call good customer service.
But then what's more frustrating is that I'm a realtor and I deal with a lot of older people selling and buying homes, and if I'm referring a company to them, I assume they're getting exactly the same service that I'm getting, which makes me not want to refer this company to them. They're very poor and cheap. I don't trust them anymore.

Our plumber came out and threw a breaker but couldn't get it to work. He had to call an electrician because he had to do some rewiring and he was not authorized to do that. When he tried to get everything going, it blew the whole house out. They found out that the guy had wired it correctly but he had blown the main breaker. The water heater was about ready to blow. I called in the claim with American Home Shield to get somebody to replace the defective water heater. We got it all taken care of.
Quest Electric came out and their tech was very good about showing me everything he did and how he had wired it. He explained everything to me. He said that normally, when a plumber does this, they don't do it right and they would have to redo it. But he said that the electrician we had did a good job. Everything was done correctly. After the visit, everything has been working perfectly and we have hot water.
But I was not happy with the plumbing. When the initial water heater was brought out, it was the wrong one and they tried to put that it. I stopped them. It took them three weeks to get the correct one and I complained about them. I told them they need to get some better training or they need to do something because it was not acceptable to bring out the wrong product. Also, they set the old water heater on our carport and I asked them to get it off there. But they said they would have to charge me extra if they did that. I asked why as they were the ones who left it there. They said it was because they would have to make the trip, so I just said to leave it then. They left it until they came and put the new water heater in. The guy that put the water heater in for the plumbing company got their act together and the people were nice.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

American Home Shield is a good idea. A friend of mine has it. He explained it to me and it sounded great. I'm retired and don't have tons of money to spend on a house if it needs a repair. Plumbing and electricity gets expensive. Fixing a washing machine is also expensive. I bought the policy and it worked several times already. But this time, it was annoying. My son-in-law who's living at the house told me that there was water coming out from under the sink. The gentleman who went out to see the damage said that they would have to remove the cabinet or the outside wall to fix it. He said it looks like something that I put in many years ago punctured the pipe but I don't believe that. That particular object which is a water filter has been there probably 30 years. With the exception of this last claim, I'm very satisfied.

Queen Electric resolved my electrical problem and did a great job. They're very polite and professional when they came in. But I have had a plumbing vendor that has come out and to this day, the issue has not been resolved. It started back in May and tey were supposed to replace my commode. American Home Shield said they would take care of the problem. They referred to the same vendor and he called me and canceled again and he never came back to resolve the situation.
I used American Home Shield before but I gave them another shot because my girlfriend said that she was having success with them and she had been living in this area. But there they haven't been very successful for me. For example, my air conditioner. It was hot as the dickens this summer and I could not get somebody out to repair my air conditioner. I'm a senior citizen and I have underlying health conditions. I thought I was gonna die in his house. It was just miserable. I waited and waited and asked AHS if there was something they could do. It took so long that I had to hire my own contractor to come in and install my air conditioner for me that I bought from my pocket because they didn't come. So I called AHS one morning and the rep said that I could get a refund for that. She was very nice. So I still need to send them a report now requesting a refund for my air conditioner.
American Home Shield selects the vendors that they send so I expect the, to take responsibility for their vendors. If it's a situation where I have not gotten a service since May, instead of me referring my claim to the same vendor, they should take responsibility and send another vendor to resolve the problem and pay them. Also sometimes, when I called to request service, no offense, the people couldn't understand what I was saying and I couldn't understand what they were saying. I know a lot of people are working from home but I hear strange noises in the background and stuff that's very unprofessional.

We had a dishwasher repair done, and then another claim that was just completed was for the heater where we had an issue with the thermostat. American Home Shield always advertised this: "Get your AC or your heater tuned up before the season." We've used that each year and it's been great. My latest claim with American Home Shield was for a leak under the house. It was coming from the air conditioner area. I called when I did the claim and the rep was very good. A contractor came from Guaranteed Services and he was very nice. It was nothing they did that day at all because they just had to come out and look at it and take pictures. They didn't repair. AHS is gonna send another second opinion out here. We've had American Home Shield and don't use it very often at all. When I first called, the lady said that they do cover water under the house. There was water coming in from a unit. I think it was coming from condensation from the air conditioner, too. But they’re saying since my ductwork was saturated, they called it abuse to the air conditioner because it was around the flashing of the cork and it had come undone at places. You can't really see it unless you woke up on it. I was really upset. We don't abuse anything.
Apparently, they’re not gonna cover it unless a second opinion comes out and gives them a different diagnosis. The contractors come out here and sometimes they have to make three trips. But the guy from Guaranteed Services said he couldn't do anything. He had to make pictures and he has to come back. It's really frustrating for them too because being a warranty company, they can't just go ahead and do anything.
I've had American Home Shield for several years. And as a matter of fact, I’ve even told my brother about it, and he took it at a recommendation from me. But it's very frustrating when it tells you stuff and it says it covers this and they don't really make it plain when they sell the policy thing to you. It's very frustrating because I feel like sometimes the information is not given to you correctly. Because of the sale, they want a sale. The tell you they cover this and they don't go into details about anything. It's very frustrating because we took the policy out to have it for things like this. Then they come and they can't do it.

The door itself had been locked by the tenant. So, I ended up paying 100 bucks for a door that was locked by the tenant. It just needed to be unlocked. I've had Home Shield since 2010, but I've had them on three different houses. I currently have them on two. They have progressively gotten harder to deal with. I have submitted claims both ways. For simple problems, the online way is very straightforward. But for more intricate problems where you need to explain what is going on so that you don't have three or four different engagements before you get the right service technician, which is one of the problems.
The online service is useless when you're trying to actually get something fixed, where you know there's an issue, but the online methodology doesn't allow you to explain what it is so that you can get the right guy there. But in calling the claim in, you better have 90 minutes to two hours set aside to either wait, talk to somebody or talk to the next person after that somebody or get dropped from the call.
I have a list for both the areas of when they say, "Hey, a technician will be coming." It's like, "Okay, great." And then, I wait to see who was assigned, and then sometimes I call back and say, "Hey, I don't want this company to service me," because in the past, I've had bad interaction. It's on the consumer to do that themselves. I've got a house in Williamsburg, Virginia and I had a really horrible interaction with one of the plumbing companies they assigned that I ended up learning they were ripping me and Home Shield off. It's not my job to keep Home Shield from being taken for a ride, but they took me and Home Shield for a ride. So, anytime I'd have a plumbing incident in the future, if they assign them, I just tell them, "No. Can you just find somebody?" And if there's plenty of people that aren't willing to do that, then we all end up paying more. Other than that, my experience is satisfactory and what I would expect.

American Home Shield is really simple to deal with. They were prompt in taking care of my problem and I was satisfied with them. I called them for a claim and their process was pretty easy. Customer service seemed to be okay. I told them what was wrong and they got back to me with an email saying they would contact the contractor and that they would be in touch. Everything was good. This claim was for our pool pump that locked up. Miramar Pools Service came out and the tech was a really nice and friendly guy. He replaced the motor. It was a good service and everything is running smoothly.

Our dishwasher was filled with water and it would never drain out the water. Precision came out to look at it and found that a portion of it had been clogged. It required them to order a new piece that took about a week to come in. But when it did come in, they were able to get it all fixed up. Philip was very meticulous about everything that he did. There was a little bit of water that got on the floor when he was fixing the part when it came in and he was very kind to get it all cleaned up and left with everything looking spotless.
Now, the dishwasher is working great. So we had a really good experience with them. We really appreciated what they were able to do for us. Submitting the claim to AHS was a pretty smooth process. I was a little bit surprised to be charged for the service before I was given the service, but it wasn't a big deal since Precision did such a great job. It just wasn't what I was expecting when I submitted the claim. But I was very pleased with the overall service and the speed at which my problem was fixed.

We didn't have any cooling. I called in a service with AHS and they sent out PlumbRus, LLC. On his initial visit, the tech came out and could not find the leak, but clearly there was a leak somewhere. He also put in nine pounds of Freon. I told him that I had issues in the past with the unit. We've been in the house 16 years, so there were some issues with it and there was something going on that I couldn't find. But he said he was going to turn it in and I said okay.
Then, I was surprised when he called me the other day and said that he has a new condensing unit for me. But I told him it was okay. So, they came out and put it in. The two guys that came were different than the guy that came the first time and they were excellent. They were there for several hours but it worked well and I had no problem with the folks who came out. But it was surprising to me that someone would come all the way from Fort Sumner to Clovis to do the service, which is 60 miles away.
Other than that, I did this deal online with American Home Shield and I had no problem. When you do what you're doing with American Home Shield online, it works great. But if you call, it's the worst nightmare in the world. A few months ago, we had an issue with our double oven. The main board went out on it and it quit working. So, I called and AHS assigned someone to the case then told me what day they were supposed to show up. On the day that they were supposed to show up, they didn't show up. And about an hour later, they called and said they were not going to be there. Then, they were supposed to be there three days later but they never showed up. We never heard from them either.
I knew that AHS was sending someone from Lubbock which is 100 miles from us and I told them that there was a local company that was on their list who was already familiar with the issue. I told them that when the oven went out, I initially called him. He came, looked at it, said that the board was out on it. So, I decided to call my warranty and see what they'd do. That was when AHS assigned somebody else and when the guy didn't show up, I called back. And I was on hold for a almost an hour and a half. Then, when I got somebody, I tried to tell them what had gone on and they were really helpful. But if you just put your information online at the computer site, it works like a breeze. So, I learned, through trial and error, not to call. If I ever had to do something and it was strictly a phone thing, I wouldn't have it no matter how good it is. I work all day long and I don't have an hour and a half to spend waiting on hold.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

I've always had a good experience with American Home Shield. I've had other problems in the house and have always been satisfied with the way things had gone. It's a great service.

The first guy who came out to fix our dishwasher told them that the door was broken so American Home Shield denied our claim. But it wasn't broken. The lady who called me was foreign and it was very hard to understand her. I talked to her on the phone three different times or I kept getting somebody who sounded the exact same as her, and I couldn't understand what she was saying. I kept telling her that our door was not broken and that it was fine. But she kept telling me, "No, your claim's denied because your door was previously broken."
After I talked to the rep three different times, my husband called the next Saturday and he got somebody that he could talk to and understand. They sent a second contractor out who said the door was fine and that it was not the problem. The first guy who came out was very frustrating, but the second guy did wonderful. The first guy took a hammer to the dishwasher and broke off a piece on the side because he couldn't get a screw out. The second guy tried to try to fix what the first guy did. He got the dishwasher working again.

It was a very nice experience. Filing the claim was very easy. I just called and told American Home Shield what was wrong and they found someone to come and fix it. Whoever it was that they sent was a very nice, helpful man. He did a good job with my air conditioner that wasn't working. It was making an awful lot of noise. The man discovered that the tube was plugged with sediment. He was able to get it taken care of and everything's going fine right now. There is no more noise.

The hot water heater was leaking and it was coming through the ceiling. Mr. Rooter came out and replaced it. A week later, it was doing the same thing again. So they determined that the water heater was defective and so, they replaced it a second time. It has been a week since then and it’s working now. We also had a heating and air conditioning person out to check all the wiring there. We paid $412 for the heating and air person and we paid 300 and something to Mr. Rooter.

We didn't have any difficulty submitting our claim to American Home Shield. We did it online and it was pretty simple. My wife submitted two work orders, across the same day, morning and afternoon. Then she called in so that they could combine both work orders into one. We had an issue with the ice maker, and the contractor came out and did a quick job. They had to order parts. They made a temporary fix. Then in four days, they did the full thing. We have a second ticket, but they've not done it yet. I'm pretty happy with American Home Shield overall.

I saw that the promotion was going on and I didn’t wanna miss out. So, I got the furnace done and Fast Response came out. It went very well. The guy that came out for the furnace was very personable. I was pulling into the driveway and I had my work badge on and we got to talking about the NTI, the students working from home. I was able to instruct him in the direction that he needed to go. So it made me feel happy to be able to support him on the school end as he was supporting us in getting the service on our furnace.
He had said that it looked like at one time, something was leaking in there. We didn't even realize that it was something that was leaking in the furnace. It was a pipe that he was referring to, and we didn't realize it until it damaged our ceiling. It was the pipe in the ceiling. So we had gotten it fixed but not realizing that it could have been a potential problem for the furnace. But he saw that it wasn't wet.
I'm somewhat relieved that I have American Home Shield, but I had to purchase a brand new dishwasher because they sent somebody out here four or five times. But they never offered to do anything else because what ended up happening was they would send somebody out, it would work for a little bit past the 60 days or 30 days and then I would have to call them right back out and spend another $100. It takes them too many chances and I don't like that about them. But they did go in half on replacing the air conditioning unit outside. The flip side of that was they gave me kind of a smaller unit. I have to keep it turned down so low for it to constantly work properly. I have my mixed feelings with it. I pay extra for American Home Shield to do all my appliances in the house, not just my furnace and air condition. Sometimes, I feel like I might be wasting my money.

My only claim is for my water heater. It's still unrepaired. The technicians had to order parts. The parts are gonna be in and they've scheduled the repair for tomorrow. Hopefully, they can be in and out and we'll see. The process is very clumsy and not very user-friendly as far as getting in touch with the right people. I spent hours online with the automated service. I tried calling the technician and wasn't able to get ahold of them. That kinda forced me to call American Home Shield. After interacting with American Home Shield, I finally got in touch with the technician. The whole process just seemed very complicated to get service. This is going on almost two weeks since the service call was placed for actual repair. I am not very happy at this moment. It forced me to do some more research and made me question whether I'm gonna keep them or not. But just by this first initial service, I thought it would be quicker and a lot more user-friendly.

I purchased this condominium in January. The seller informed me that there were several space heaters that weren't working. I put in a ticket for it with American Home Shield. A guy from Walkowiak Electric called and scheduled an appointment. He arrived 15 minutes prior to their plan. They called though. I showed the issue to him when he got here. He did a lot. He went to the store, bought a part, and came back. He fixed everything. He was great and I’m very pleased because that was a big issue. I didn't know if it could be a fire hazard and I was really worried. But the guy said it was safe.
It turned out that the other electrician didn't even hook it up when he took the cover off. It was disappointing. I was concerned with fires but I waited until the warmer months. It wouldn't turn off so I had to use a circuit breaker to turn all of the heaters off. It wasn’t a big deal because it was 80, 90 degrees. But once September, October came and we started having some cooler nights, it was time to get that issue addressed. Walkowiak did a beautiful job. It was excellent.
Everyone should have a home warranty. How could you feel secure without it? When considering one, do your homework and read company reviews. Keep an open mind. I had a very pleasant experience with American Home Shield. Now I have a leak under the sink. The refrigerator filter needs to be changed. I can’t move that big thing and I'm gonna have to ask someone to come do that.
I've recommended American Home Shield to a close friend of mine and to my daughter as well. I explained to them my experience and the cost. Even though you will have several months with no issues, $50 is nothing compared to what you're gonna have to do if something goes wrong. Also, American Home Shield has qualified and certified people. You don't have to worry about being cheated or about some guy taking your money and you never see him again. That's a concern. They vet the people for you and you don't have to do any of that stuff.

I can't get responses from the plumber that they put on to do the job. Home Shield won't give me any answers. I just moved in to my new home about a month ago and I wanted the keys to be replaced. I filed a claim online with AHS, then Realty Rekey came out and my experience with them was pretty straightforward. Other than that, the online portal of AHS is good. The key items are in there but some of the dropdown menus could be enhanced to give more options. I've used American Home Shield on a couple of claims and although their online process is simplified, it doesn't provide the areas to really signify exactly what's going on. A good example is a garage door claim. I could get American Home Shield for a claim on my garage door and the menu just offered a couple of things about whether it went up or didn't go down fully, et cetera. But it didn't allow for other problems that existed on the garage door opener.
Aside from that, there was a bunch of documentation online, which required me to do some of the reading, but beyond that, I was never directed to do anything else. AHS should also improve their process as far as the services that may not be covered by the same individual. As an example, when I had to get a toilet repaired, there were certain items that were not covered by AHS while others were. So it would be great from a consumer perspective to know the exact items within a work call that wouldn't be covered. Besides that, all the problems I submitted with AHS got resolved and overall, I'm happy with their performance. AHS has been an important part of providing peace of mind for me and my family as we moved to a new home because you never know how things are operating fully.

The technician from #1 Garage Door didn’t know what was wrong. He thought it was the keypad outside so we ordered a new one. He told us to put it in but if it still doesn’t open and close correctly, then just to put back. The new keypad is not gonna be here till Friday. So, we'll try that. Unless the new keypad still is not triggering it to transport from the keypad to the inside thing, then he said to just let American Home Shield know and they'll send him back out. It might be something else but he wanted to start with that because it took a while to transmit. So, hopefully, that's all it was. The technician was very courteous and made sure he kept his distance. He was wonderful.
The only other claim we've had was our washer. It was bouncing. I put the claim in and the technician showed right up an hour later. He called me that he was in the area. He came and ordered the parts, and told me he’d call within a week. He was great and very talkative. I learned about him and his family down here. So, AHS has very nice people. We used to have Choice Warranty. We only used them one time in two years and it was the worst experience ever. So, I really like who AHS have sent. Also, the app is super easy. I am pleased so far.

For years, it's been pretty well with American Home Shield. I never regret that I have them since day one. They give me peace of mind. When something happens in the house, you know you got somewhere to call. My refrigerator keeps on making ice without stop so all I got to do today is let American Home Shield know about it. I'm pretty sure their contractor is gonna come to fix it. With a little bit of $75, you pay a technician to come and they're gonna fix it no matter how much it cost.
Recently, we couldn't control the AC. Sometimes it would be so hot in the house but the control would say it was 64 degrees. We tried to control it and after a certain time, we could not turn the AC off or on. We had to turn off the AC from the outside electrical box. I let American Home Shield know and because of the weather, the company was one week late. They called and said they couldn't make it on time. When the guy came, he changed the whole pad, checked anything else on the AC and said it was okay. However, American Home Shield needs to get more local guys on certain areas. When I was talking to that guy, he told me he came from four hours away to make it here. I'm here in Brunswick. At least get somebody from Jacksonville or Savannah. Getting more technicians closer to town to some customers will be better because when we got AC issues in the middle of the summer, it's not funny to wait a week or two weeks.

I was gonna call American Home Shield and ask them to refund me my money because this has been the absolute worst I've ever seen in my life. I had a claim for my septic tank because it's full. All the water in my house, my sinks in my bathroom, my showers, and the toilet are backing up with feces in it. I tried to explain that to the young man who came. He said I don't have a septic tank. That's not true because it's in the backyard. He just came, looked around and left. He said, "Oh, there's nothing I can do, ma'am." I called Home Shield back, told them and they kept telling me they'll call me back. They've never called me back.
Then the second claim was for my plumbing. It's the same exact thing. I paid the other service fee for someone to come out. The gentleman from the company Gee's Drain Plumbing came out. He was very thorough, very professional and he told me exactly what was wrong. It's a blockage, and also the septic tank is full. Now, I've paid both of those service fees. I'm frustrated with them.
My overall experience has been an absolute nightmare. They won't call me back. There are no results and nothing is done. I'm trying to figure out how to get to the Chief Executive Officer of this company because if they're not gonna send someone out to fix my septic and the plumbing, then I just need them to refund me my money, and I'll find another company. I'm right now in the process of calling the Better Business Bureau in addition to the AG's office because they're just taking money and that's not right.

In the beginning, I didn't understand until I figured out how this all worked. The first thing I did was have the furnace serviced. When the service guy came, something was wrong with it. I went to the American Home Shield and then they said I had to get one of their service people. I had to pay again for the second person come. Then I knew that as soon as I had wanted to do a servicing, I needed to contact AHS and get their service guy to come out because otherwise, I had to pay for the service guy that I chose, and then pay for their service guy to come out after. It would have been helpful to know ahead of time with that service.
The last thing, it would have saved me 100 bucks if I had just called their service guy first. According to the inspector, everything hadn't been serviced in a long time. Then there was something wrong with the air conditioner and it was so much easier to just process it all because I was already ahead of the game. I only had to pay $75. I didn't mind. Recently there was a leak under the sink. The guy came one time and I mentioned that I was having a hard time and that the water heater wasn't heating the water so it expanded there. He said that if I wanted any more work done, I had to submit it online and then AHS would make arrangements for him to come back. He wasn't able to turn the water off in order to fix the original leak because the main water thing wouldn't turn off.
The plumbing company was amazing. I just got it yesterday and nobody said anything. But I knew that they had to order stuff and then wait till the stuff came in and then come back and I was assuming that was why. The only thing that I found that was hard was that AHS used a list that they have there, and sometimes I wish that I could just tell them instead of trying to figure out what fit the best. But then the people were quick to come out, were always excellent, and so helpful.
The seller just sold this house and I realized that things hadn't been serviced, but I anticipated that they would be fine ‘cause the seller just probably used the things the year before. But, so far, there's been things that needed to be fixed and it didn't surprise me. Everything's 20 years old. But at the same time, I thought, this warranty probably isn't gonna help because I'm sure the things would go one more year.

We bought an old house and there are so many things that the people have been coming and doing. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is simple. I just go on their website, set up a claim, which takes about three minutes, and pay $75 online. I had one little incident with an electrical company that came out. The light on the fan wasn’t working and he pulled some chains that were broken off. He said that the fan was not working either and then, he started to it. All I wanted him to do was fix the switch on the wall for lighting, which he did. The way the guy wrote it up, the fan was the problem.
AHS called me and they were gonna say that they were not gonna pay for any of it. We had a long discussion and we got settled. AHS is very responsive. They got somebody out quickly and two out of three isn't a bad batting average. It wasn't that bad as far as the work that the contractors did, so I'd recommend them. The people they have coming to work on my pool are coming out of Dallas which is 75 miles drive away.
I've been with American Home Shield since 2016. It came with the previous house we purchased and I was completely satisfied with everything that they did for us. Some of their contractors have been good while others have been bad. Things have been functioning well since their contractors came. My son bought his house last November and I told him to make sure he has Home Shield included with his purchase. In the long run, the warranty is worth it and it gives peace of mind. We had a couple of leaks and when we submitted a claim with AHS, things worked like they should have with the contractor, Greenway Home Services. The techs were very prompt, called ahead of time, very professional, tended to the problem, and corrected the issue. But my rating for AHS would not be a very pretty figure right now. Our GE Profile Advantium oven, which is a $2,000 appliance, went out and their person declared it dead and needed to be replaced. But we got sent out a wrong model. This has been going on for weeks and so far, AHS has not been willing to correct that.
That was their mistake but I'm sitting here, holding the bag, at least to date. This week I finally decided to make one more call before we went and bought the correct one. I got a young man in their appliance division that promised me that he would call me back in a couple of days. But regardless of what he was able to do, I have not yet heard back from him and we're on the third day today from that. With my frustration from that experience, I would much rather not have a warranty company that has treated me like American Home Shield has. He explained everything that he did. Everything went well. However, I had one more thing that went out on me and I didn’t like that I had to pay for each additional one. They sent another technician out and he said that for the garbage disposal, I would have to pay that separate. They said that was something different.

We've been with American Home Shield for many years and one issue I've had was that during COVID, anytime something would happen, my wait to get a hold of AHS would be over two hours. Plus, the person we would get would be overseas. There is no phone number to corporate and there was no way of getting any type of local through Tennessee. It is very disappointing. There was a time when we had a bad leak. AHS's techs came out but the time I spend on hold has to change. I had the same problem when our air conditioning went out. The temperature was three digits and the people at my place have underlying health conditions.
I've heard other horror stories from others but once I'm happy, I'm gonna stay. We don't plan on going to a different company. Most recently, we had a plumber come to our place and he made holes. We then needed a drywall guy to come out. AHS set up an appointment with a company with whom my husband spoke with. They scheduled a meeting but then the tech never showed up. When my husband called that company back, the tech said that he was not coming 'cause he is out of business. We had to go for someone else and AHS scheduled somebody. Dan's Pro-Lock came to our location as American Home Shield's contractor and the tech from there was phenomenal. He was so respectful and I would have him back at my home in a heartbeat. It took him two days to do the job but he was extremely thorough. He did a wonderful job and we loved him. He did our drywall for us.

Water was accumulating on the top of my refrigerator. I called Home Shield and asked to speak to customer service and told them the problem. And then, they sent Sears out. The tech was very professional and very nice. It's not happening now, so he may have fixed the problem. He wasn't sure if he did or not because he couldn't get in touch with the Whirlpool engineers for my refrigerator. So, Home Shield scheduled someone else to come out.
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

Budget AC, Heating & Plumbing came out and the technician was nice. He said something about a possible crack in the furnace. He turned off the gas and said that I won't be able to use the furnace. He charged me the $100 service fee and then I was told I had to wait to find out if American Home Shield would cover whatever the repair might be. I got an email from American Home Shield and it said something to the effect of some concerns.
I called to find out what that meant and they scheduled an appointment for me for Monday, the 12th. I agreed to that. Then they were talking about replacing the furnace. I told them that the technician just said crack. He didn't say anything about replacing the furnace. I'm new to homeownership and I don't know these things so when I think of a crack, I think of like a chip in a windshield, or a crack, something that can be filled up. I told them that I wanna bring someone else. I wasn't gonna commit to anything until I got another opinion. I don't wanna be taken advantaged.
This didn't make sense to me. To hear a crack and then to hear that my furnace needs to be replaced and it needs to make modifications is like going from zero to 60 and I'm not prepared. If the Budget guy said anything to me about that and I didn't understand, then that is my fault. But he said crack and I couldn't use the furnace for safety. Fine, I got that. I just wanted to make sure that it was gonna be fixed before it gets too cold.
I happened to be able to get another HVAC company to come and the guy confirmed what Budget said. He explained a little bit where the cracks could occur. He did what he needed to do. He came upstairs and told me that the people that were here were not trying to railroad me. The furnace needs to be replaced because it's old and the cracks can't just be fixed. It will allow carbon monoxide into the house and that's not healthy. I called American Home Shield and said that I would get the service done. I understood that the cost to me is $1,320. I don’t have money laying around, so between now and Monday, I got to figure out where I’m gonna get $1,300. I can't live without a furnace that doesn’t work.
Budget did what they needed to do but it would have helped if there would have been a little bit more explanation about the crack. If that had been explained to me, I might not have had the reaction that I had. I pay 49.99 a month because I couldn't afford to pay the full amount for the year. But when it comes to renewal in January, I honestly don't know that I'm gonna continue paying that.

However, American Home Shield needs to get their reimbursement checks out a little quicker. I had to deal with another issue within them and I spent literally two hours on the phone today. But Jesus went above and beyond to help me out. None of the issues I was having was due to American Home Shield. It was the contractor who didn't bother to show up. I had three claims with AHS. I had my dishwasher and they replaced it. My clothes dryer and the guy fixed it. Then I called recently and the contractors came out and checked my furnace. There were two people who came out. He said even though my furnace is 13 years, he told me, “The way you keep, it would last another 20 years.” He was very nice. I used to have Sears but they never came out. They hardly fixed anything. So, I went to American Home Shield and it was crazy ‘cause some of the guys that came out to fix my appliance were from Sears. I couldn’t get Sears when I had Sears insurance, but I got Sears out here with American Home Shield. I'm happy with American Home Shield. I can't believe that it takes Sears so long to get out here. My trailer is 20 years old and I'm buying it. I've been there seven years and I was like, "You know, I really can't afford if something happens to break down." That's why I wanted to go with Home Shield. The AC was blowing, but it wasn't getting cold. The compressor wasn't turning on outside. And then, when Douglas Mechanical came out and checked it, it was the condenser. The tech sent me a picture of the condenser showing me that it was slowing up, and he changed it and everything was good. He was awesome. He did it within minutes. He said, "I see that you guys keep your filter clean and everything else." And he said everything looked good. He did a wonderful job.
I was worried that I didn't want Home Shield to be a screwed up company and have the tech come out and say, "Oh, well..." You pay $100 for the service guy, and now you owe all this money in parts. I kept saying to the lady when I called to check on it to get the guy out there to fix it, "You guys told me under normal wear and tear that this stuff is covered." I had to have it covered because I don't have the money to fix it, and it was. That just made me feel a lot better that the rep was, "Yeah. All done. You don't owe anything. You already paid your $100 for the service guy."

I called American Shield and told them I wanted a check-up. I was satisfied with the service. The guy was very impressive. He was very knowledgeable, very courteous and honest. I found him very professional. He had his boots on with shoe covers. He complimented American Shield and told me that we should definitely keep that contract. He was very supportive. The system is working fine but they charged me $80. They were offering us a $75 special so I do need my $5 back.
I've been relatively satisfied with American Home Shield. There was one incident or two that I had some concerns about. One was I had a hot water heater replaced and I ended up spending about 400 bucks. I thought that was a little extreme. The guy ordered stuff to have based on the code and to upgrade the system. He had the system torn down. I wanted some hot water and I don't know anything about plumbing so I kinda trusted him. Then another guy came and couldn't do what I asked him to do because he said the water pressure was too high. He had to install a water pressure and they ended sending me a water pressure control. What I don't like about the service is they'll always try to find something that I think is optional to some degree. That's probably one of the reasons they signed up for it, but it happens a little bit too often.

I had an AC guy come out and he serviced my Generac generator in my air conditioning and heating unit. When he was checking the Generac generator, he said its zone meter was faulty. I was gonna do it, but then my wife said we got American Home Shield and they cover it. So then I called them and they set me up with Comfort First.
The guy came out, and looked at it. They were very professional and they did it within a short period of time, and it was fixed. The guy also gave me a 30-day guarantee. I can let them know if anything happens to it or if I have a problem, and they will come back and fix whatever is wrong with it within that 30-day period. But so far, so good. I've had a great experience with American Home Shield. I appreciate it.

I went online to submit my claim. It's always easy if you do it that way. I previously had a couple of issues that were fixed first visit. Now, I have a leak that appears to be water coming under my floor. I don't know where it is coming from. I have laminate flooring and the floor has buckled and warped. That was the only way I knew that I even had a problem. I thought the leak was underneath the floor. The tech said that it shouldn't be under the floor because there shouldn't be any pipes under there. He couldn't determine it either.
I told the tech about having my handyman look at it, but he still went around my chimney thinking maybe that was where it was coming from. He said the best thing for me to do at this point is to have that wall cut out and have my handyman come back and run some water in it to see if that's where it's leaking. I would recommend using Home Shield. I'm divorced. I need a home warranty because I know that some of the issues that I might have would cost me a whole lot more than I could pay.

In previous years, I used to my claims online, but for some reason, I can't do it now. So I have to call it in. But it's easy to do. I had a claim for one of the tubs upstairs. It has a little control handle that you use to turn the water off and on and a part of it that was inside the wall was leaking so that when you would turn it on, it would spray everywhere. It was leaking on the side of the wall that we couldn't see. When the tech tried to take the knob off, we could see that it was spraying. It's been beneficial for me to have American Home Shield. I've only had an issue once but it wasn't necessarily American Home Shield’s fault. One of the vendors that they used wasn't doing well with communication. Following a service request for my pool equipment, a tech came out and he looked at the equipment. He told me American Home Shield was not gonna cover this based on how it looked. It didn't work. But I showed him how it worked on the thing and I described to him what the problem was. He was really quick. He said there was a leak, fixed it, and was gone. But I had him come back out. I know enough about my pool equipment and I knew that things weren't talking to it. It was the display and it had nothing to do with the pump. He said the gears were grinding but they weren't. And the pump works perfectly fine. It's been in service mode for a month and a half. The service the first time wasn't great and we didn't resolve the problem. The tech immediately made an assessment based on a 30-second visual before he knew what was really going on.
I've been living in the house since 2011 and I know what could possibly go wrong. I’m all about people coming out and fixing things. There was an issue with that pool thing, which I didn't know if it would be a major issue. But it really wasn't. It boiled down to programming. I ended up finding somebody who could come out, program the system and get them talking to each other because that was what the issue was and not with the equipment.
I'm not really satisfied. I would never do the home warranty thing again, especially because I had filed a claim for my fridge as well. The guy that came out was fantastic and he diagnosed the problem. The fridge and freezer are from 1997 and I had an issue with them cooling. The tech got that working to the best of his ability by replacing a part. But my freezer still doesn't freeze like it should and the fridge isn't as cold as it should be.
I'm gonna have to file another claim. But I can't ever get a hold of a representative to talk to somebody and ask them to explain to me how each service call works. What I was told was if it was my pool pump, I would have to have somebody out. If it was the pool heater, I would have to call and have somebody else out. You can do it online but you can only mark one thing. I would have to pay $125 for somebody to come out and fix that, on top of whatever the fee was that I paid for the home warranty. I would rather invest the money into my own. I've lived in the house and I know enough repair people that come out on payment anyways. I'm fixing my pool and it probably should have been fixed by a pool person. But everybody wants to wipe their hands clean of it. I just want it done and in working condition.
Hi Natalie,
I hate to hear about your most recent experience to have the pool malfunctions repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

The spring on the garage door broke. Home Shield sent out Reliable Garage Doors and as soon as the tech saw the garage, he called out the problem. Then he called the home warranty to see what was covered and I looked at my book and I saw that it wasn't. But he said that whatever the part and labor would be, Home Shield will deduct it and they can deduct whatever I've already paid. But there was no deduction. I pay $75 for my service and I ended up paying him $150.
I feel confident about Home Shield's service so far. I've had it for about 20 years and it's very beneficial. I pay the service for something that might cause 1,000 or more. I don't have to worry about that as long as it's under the warranty. If something is not under the warranty, that's when I have to worry about trying to come up with the money to get it done. But once I know that something is not under the warranty, I have that opportunity of waiting to get the money together to get it fixed or go on and get it fixed when the contractors come. I like the service. It's really been a peace of mind for me.

Two or three days is fine but I've got some kids in my house now.
I haven’t called back about that dishwasher because I’d have to pay twice. Two people that came out were saying that nothing was wrong with it. I guess they were uncomfortable or didn't wanna be in here the whole wash cycle. Once the cycle gets to the end, water will be left at the bottom of it. My recent claim went good though. But she was remodeling the first floor of her house and her washer and dryer were in the garage. So if it had taken five days, we would've been at the laundromat. Requesting a service call online wasn't too hard. Then the contractors called within an hour and set up the appointment. The tech came on a Thursday or Friday. My wife said that the tech went in there and said that we needed a part and he would order it. I called them on Monday and they said that it would usually take three to five business days for the part to get in. Then they called on Tuesday and said that they got the part and they were coming out.
Having Amerian Home Shield was good when we moved into this house and with the age of the appliances like the dishwasher, furnace, and air conditioner that were left. But they aren't available to get hold of a contractor on weekends. One time, a couple of years ago, the furnace went out on a Saturday morning and it was cold and we had to wait till Monday to get a contract call. That happened with the air conditioner once too. You can turn a claim in, but it just sits there until Monday morning.

We had some issues with the AC before. When we first moved in, there was a problem with our AC. Then last year, there was a problem and this year, there was a problem. Stockdale came out the time before and it was a really quick fix. So, we were happy that they were coming out again. This time, there was a lot of stuff that had to be replaced and it was a very expensive repair for what we pay for American Home Shield. I was shocked at how expensive it was. I wasn't okay about that. Every time something came up, we would get another email or another phone call saying that they would not be covering them.
It took almost a week for someone to come out. But that was at no fault of Stockdale because we had a bunch of rain and they couldn't open up the unit with the humidity ‘cause it would get something into the system that could really mess it up and ruin all our coil. So, Stockdale had to wait a while to do that before the rain stopped. But we were really fortunate that we had all that rain and that cold front because it would have been absolutely miserable to be without AC. Other than that, the AC has been wonderful now and we're very happy.
We've had American Home Shield for quite some time and we've had some other issues with them. But the technicians from Stockdale were very friendly and right on time. But it's in the contract that any modifications that are needed, the contractor charges extra. 450 was the deductible. The contractor was very professional. He knew what he was doing and he brought the old one in and did the modifications and had it in very quickly. I was really impressed with that.

I've always been satisfied with American Home Shield's service. Late winter this year, I had to have a contractor come out and work on my heating boiler. The contractor was very thorough and efficient. The most recent claim I had was about three weeks ago. It was to fix some faucets - an outside faucet and shower faucets. I called Home Shield's number and within the next working day, the contractor called me. They sent a young man out and he did the work. He was courteous and friendly and he explained everything. The faucets are working excellently. I would recommend Home Shield.

I signed up on Home Shield's website for their offer of a $75 annual inspection of my heating system for the winter. Cool Factory was completely professional and the tech knew what he was talking about. He came in and put his booties on his feet. He explained everything about what he was doing to my heating system. He inspected the outside and the inside and he was gone in about 45 minutes. I've called American Home Shield three times for three separate issues and they have always been outstanding. They were able to get a tech to my house to resolve the problem and then pay for anything else post the $100 that I had to pay. I'm very satisfied with my Home Shield warranty.

My refrigerator's icemaker needed a service and when I submitted a claim with AHS, the process was easy and fast. The technician knew what was wrong with it before he got here and he must've done his homework. He came prepared and he told me what he needed to do as well as how long it would take him. He was in and out in less than 30 minutes. He also told me to give 24 hours and check it. But I couldn't wait and I checked it that night. It was working then and is still working fine now.
I had a second claim after AHS sent me an email one day in reference to a program they had going on to check the homeowners’ heating systems before the wintertime. I completed that one and the tech came out the next week. He checked the heater and I watched him, which he didn’t have any problem with. He did what he had to do, and he was in and out also. All in all, my experience with American Home Shield has been great and I would recommend them to anyone. I'm not looking forward to anything breaking down but if it did, I’ll call them in a minute.

I’ve called American Home Shield several times and they’d hung up on me. I no longer do business with them because they hadn't been operating in good faith. I call. They hang up. I call and they put me on hold or transfer me to somebody who doesn't respond. I wait for 15 minutes and I just can't be waiting 15 minutes ‘cause I work at night. I'm just having to be up-to-date ‘cause I gotta go pick up my daughter.
They also hadn't returned any of my calls. They hadn’t returned the correspondence I sent to them in reference to want to discontinue business with them. I've been with them for a while, but at the same time, I hadn't received any customer service the way a paying customer is supposed to receive customer service. I’m a 24-year disabled vet so, when I need things done, I need things done then. My wife’s feedback to me was, “Why they ain’t coming?” So, I had to go get Choice Warranty in order to get some results.
Hi Greg,

There was a leak underneath the sink and the contractor came out and looked at it. He said that the part that was needed was not covered by American Home Shield. So, I had to buy the part in addition to the service fee, and they got it fixed. I had another claim before this one and it was the same. They needed to replace some part of the air conditioning unit and it wasn't covered. Still, I would recommend AHS. The reps got out and did the job. It wasn't like any of the parts were extremely expensive. It was just more than I anticipated, considering that I thought the whole policy was about paying for a service charge and then, they will replace or repair. It seemed like every time I've ever called AHS, it's been an additional charge.

My dishwasher does a weird thing. It fills up with water on the bottom and I don't know why. I had three technicians, two plumbers. Then the time the plumber came out, who was the second person that came as a technician, did one thing with the hose. Seven days later, it was back. I couldn't imagine the company would lie. I was really frustrated. American Home Shield should have replaced the dishwasher right around then. The third person that came in was from Whirlpool, which is what type it is. He replaced some hose and said that should do it. If it doesn't, he wrote the part down and told me what it was.
Of course, it started doing it again. This last time, the plumber came out and said that it was the way the pipes were and everything in it. It's not the dishwasher now. Everything's been done to that but the pipe underneath needed to be modified. He told me he would charge me to do it. I asked him what the cost would be if American Home Shield won't cover it. He said it would be 600 and something to 800 and something. I told him to see if AHS would have it covered. He called and told AHS that's what it was and it wasn't covered so I have to deal with that.
The previous owner removed the garbage disposal that was there. I guess it was broken and they didn't wanna fix it. I have one to put in and that's going to be installed pretty soon. That may take care of the problem with the leak although I don't know if the pipes need to be modified. The disposal might help this situation. It is going to be installed and I'm hoping that fixes it. Recently, I had a claim for my washing machine and AHS replaced it almost immediately. The few times I've had to use them, they've been really responsive. I'm thrilled that I have them. I have one friend that just bought a house and I told her that she definitely has to have AHS.

I called in the claim for the air conditioner and I talked to a representative. The interaction was fine but I had a problem actually getting to somebody because of the the different prompts. The prompts don't actually say, "Would you like to talk to a representative?". It was almost like a hit and miss. The contractor was fine. Now that we're in this pandemic, they had on masks and kinda adhere to distancing. When they were showing me some of the processes of what I should do to keep my air conditioning clean, we weren't close. But the technicians were friendly enough and knew what they were talking about.
The one problem I had with American Home Shield is the online process is kinda screwed up. If I had gone online, there's an option where you just say, "Air conditioning." If I hadn't gotten in touch with a representative to let them know that there are two air conditioners in the house, then they will only be able to service one and I would have to do another work order. Then they would have to come back out again to do the second one. But overall, I'm satisfied with my contract. I've used them before and the technicians that they sent out have all been fine.

The technician who was scheduled to come out to our house got sick, so there was a delay of a couple of days. The second day, if he hadn't been able to make it, his boss was gonna come out and do it. His boss ended up coming out because he had the element when the technician did not. It took maybe 15 minutes for it to get fixed once they got here. Everything is working great.
I went ahead and had gotten the warranty that covered everything I possibly could. I maximized exactly everything you can get covered on a house. There's only a couple things that I didn't get because I don't have it and don't plan on having. So, I know that if anything goes wrong with this house and any of the appliances or whatnot inside, they will be covered. I like American Home Shield. American Home Shield is not good anymore. In the contract, they said 24 hours service. When the air conditioner wasn't blowing cold air and the condenser was not working, I called for it on October 1st. However, the contractor picked up my ticket on October 10th. That was unacceptable. Then after talking for two hours on the phone, they changed it to October 5th. I could call any provider in the local time that could come for three hours. Five days for just changing the fuse and breaker. It only takes about 30 minutes to do that. There is no reason I’ll pay for Home Shield.
The contractor was good and he knew how to do it. But what is the problem that Home Shield doesn't have a contractor? When they issue the ticket, I don't know how the procedures work. If the contractor picks up the ticket, they can’t pick the ticket and make a schedule for 10 days from the date of the ticket. Consider losing a customer. If they wanna keep the customer, they have to provide good service. We pay the premium and we expected on the time that we needed somebody coming to help us, exactly the time that was very hot unfortunately in Southern California.

I had a problem with the range hood. The exhaust fan was not working. Initially, I opened the ticket back in July and they told me that they would replace the fan. They ordered the fan and they were waiting for that order to be executed. But somehow that ticket was lost and when I followed up, they said the ticket has been closed. I reached out again to AHS in mid-September and the ticket has to be opened again. The same technician came by and he apologized saying, “Yes, we should have taken care of you.” This time, he ordered right in front of me. Then they came back on September 19 and got it fixed. The guy really helped. We had issue with one exhaust and he said he could see that there is a problem with the second one coming soon. So he replaced both the fans for us. He was pretty professional. He could see that the problem is coming so proactively and he handled it too. I'm totally satisfied.
I opened another ticket for my AC unit, which I'm waiting for the past two months. Hopefully, the guy will come today and get it resolved. But living in a home without AC for two months is a pain. But I'm preaching about AHS in our community and telling them how helpful they are for me, and that it will be helpful for them too. Anybody who doesn't have AHS and living in a home for more than whenever the warranty is expired, AHS is the place to go.

The technician from Third Generation Plumbing came at home for the AC. We have a part of the house that's flat roofing and so we explained it to him. He got on the ceiling. I asked how he would fix it. He said it would be a little bit difficult but they could pull the ducts with rope. He told me not to worry as his guys are the best as long as I am covered. He also said that I'm gonna hear from them by Friday to make an appointment so they could start on the ducts. He made it like a well-done job. Then I got an email from American Shield saying that I have to contact them for the order. I contacted them and they said that the technician made the report that they cannot get on our ceiling to do the ductwork. I have to open an access for them to be able to do the job. I asked why the technician never mentioned it to me. If he did that and I would know, I could hire a general contractor and open the ceiling. But where do I open the ceiling now?
I called Third Generation and they said they couldn't give me the technician's number, and they couldn't give him my number. I told them that he was in my home and he did the report. I did not know what he wanted me to do to make it easy for him to do the job so we would both be happy. They came up with an answer that I have to take all of the ceilings down. I said that I'm a woman, I don't know AC, and I think that's the dumbest idea I've ever heard. There’s got to be a way around. I ended up calling AHS again and I told them what Third Generation told me. They said that they would get in touch with Third Generation. AHS did that and Third Generation said that they would have their technician call me. That was yesterday morning. To this moment, I haven't heard any more from the technician and from the insurance. I don't know where to go from here.
This is the first time I'm calling AHS for something in the house. All of those two weeks, every time I call, there was somebody willing to help me. However, right now, it's the technician who's not responding. But I think AHS can pressure that a little bit more because they are the one that’s paying the money to them, or they have the contract with them. I heard a lot of good things for this insurance so that’s what I signed up for. Now that I'm needing them, it's like I'm sitting around and they don't help me when they're not on a contract with a good technician and a good company to do the job. Maybe they're doing their part and they may cover, which I don't know because I don't have that experience with them yet.

I had a freezer full of food. My neighbor took what he could and I threw out the rest. I thought it was a good way to get the refrigerator clean so I cleaned the whole thing. Then the company came a couple of days later and the guy said that it was not our refrigerator at all, it was the circuit breaker that was bad. He told me that I could have plugged it in the extension cord and plugged into the wall socket and it would have kept our refrigerator running. Well, I didn't know. He replaced the circuit breaker and that was the end of it. He was in and out in five minutes. It saved American Home Shield a lot of money.
The only thing is that AHS should probably have a company that would come out for emergencies like a refrigerator. I lost all my food. But I’d tell others to absolutely use AHS. I haven't had issues with them compared to the first provider that was sent over to take a look at my AC. The only thing is, for some reason, the time frame to wait for this part has been a bit outrageous. And yesterday, one of the representatives from Home Shield told me that they received the part already, but they still have to send it to Zamora. I didn't understand why they have to get it to them first instead of just sending it straight to the guy fixing it. I have a newborn in the house and the temperature in the city where I live at is 98 degrees night. So, it has been very hard these past couple of days, not only at the night, but on the days with a newborn in the house.
The thing that bothered me the most is the first vendor that was sent to my house, Walker's Air Conditioning. I understand that there's a process that vendors have to follow to eliminate the issues to understand which is the best route to fix the issue. When they were originally assigned to me, it took almost two to three days for them to actually just show up. And the first time that they showed up, it was just to see what the issue was. They couldn't fix anything. He said that apparently there was no Freon on the AC unit, so they just put Freon. He said that if the issue continued, to contact them and not Home Shield.
Two days later, the issue continued, I contacted Walker's and they were very hard to get ahold of. I would call four to five times a day and they wouldn't pick up the phone and return the calls. When they finally did, that guy told me, "I'll be there and I'll take a look at the issue." He never went to my house. I had to call Home Shield the following day and have them assign somebody else because Danny ** wasn't even showing up to the appointment that he set up.
That delayed my process an extra week because when Zamora came in, the tech was completely opposite to Walker's, but he had to follow the same steps. He had to run down the same diagnosis at the beginning to make sure that everything goes through, but he did a way better job. He showed up on time, and showed up when they said they would. They always pick up the phone. But by this time, I already lost a bit over a week with Walker's. And now, I have to have Zamora restart the whole process again until we got to the point that we're at right now. It's just waiting for that piece.
Every time I have used Home Shield, they came through. They did everything they should, and I'm happy with that. What I'm dissatisfied with is the lack of communication between the representative, the vendor, and the customer. That's where it seems to be failing. And every time I call Home Shield to do a claim, the negative experience that I have is not because of the representative, it's usually because of the vendor that is going to fix the issue or because there's lack of communication between the vendor and Home Shield.

I got dual sinks in the bathroom. The two sinks come together and then it drops and goes down and hit the main pipe before it goes out to the sewage. I live in the country so I'm mostly on septic. So the pipe that went down at the bottom had a stoppage from 10 years of usage in the bathroom. We called the claim in on Friday and Immediate Response was to come out the following Tuesday. At first, I got a little salty about it but it was not really an emergency to have somebody come overnight. Once they came out, they cleaned it out and resolved the issue. It went well and I was pretty happy with what I got from them. I've told my family and everybody if they're gonna buy home coverage, AHS is probably the best bet to go from what I’ve picked up on my last 20 years of owning homes.

We submitted several claims to American Home Shield and they have a good submission process. The first one we had was fans. The fans in the bathroom had gone south so those were replaced. There was also the ceiling fan in the living room. It's the kind that has pedals on it that goes around. That was gone as well. A very kind man came and checked it out. He then came back and replaced them for us. That worked really nicely. Also, a man came last week to look at our washing machine.
When we bought the house, it had a washing machine in it. It appears to be in very good shape. But it has a function on it that is very annoying. It starts to fill the washer then it agitates. You put the clothes in and it rips them. And then it stops agitating. It adds some more water. It keeps doing this adding and agitating intermittently. Every time I wash the clothes, I have to stand there and turn it on and off to make it stop agitating and to continue filling. I've lived in about at least 23 places in my adult life and this is the only washing machine I've ever hated. It's a terrible one. The man came to repair it gave it good look over and said that the machine was programmed to work like that. There was no way that he could adjust or reprogram it so I'm stuck with it, which I hate. If there is some way to get a different one, that would be really wonderful. The dryer works beautifully though so that's really nice.
There was another submission for the refrigerator, which is pretty old and runs at least 12 hours a day. It's running now and has been at it for the last three hours. I can adjust the temperature but it doesn't seem to make much difference. It just runs and runs. And it has a black fluid underneath it. A contractor was supposed to come last week but we haven't heard back from anybody yet. My husband was gonna call in and talk to somebody about it.
Other than that, the contractors who have come out were very nice and pleasant to talk to. They were also industrious and very clean. There were ones that actually looked at everything and made the decision something needed to be replaced. It was all very good. They were really professional. American Home Shield has had an excellent service and I would definitely recommend it.
Thanks for your feedback. We love to hear when we have provided fast and provided fast and professional service. And we are always here if you need us.

The air conditioner went out on the rental property that I had. I called the 1-800 number and the automated system took the information and gave me a claim number. From there, she assigned a tech rep to call me which they did. Once he called me, I gave them the property management number so they could get a hold of the tenant that's in the home to schedule the appointment. That went through smoothly.
The techs went out to the rental property and because I'm the owner of the house, they phoned me to verify the coverage which I'm paying. The air conditioner needed freon and it's not covered so I paid an additional cost. But the repairs were covered according to the policy. The tech repaired it and gave me a little discount which I was happy for. They were very professional and I was satisfied. The tenants were satisfied too because it was about 95 degrees that day. It was a good service call. However, sometimes, it's so hard to get through to American Home Shield.

I have a gas dryer that would heat sometime, and it wouldn't heat sometime. So, if you had a load of clothes, it may take you three hours to get them dry. I put a call in to American Home Shield, and they sent someone who looked at it. They looked behind at the vent, and they said it has something to do with the vent. I wasn't happy with that. A second company came out, but they still said the same thing. Then a third person came out and said the same thing.
I'm getting my clothes dry, but it takes a long time. So, I called a repairman in last Saturday. He came in and looked at it. He said, “As far as your vent , it’s blowing air. And so, your vent is not blocked.” He said it’s something with the timer. I asked him to please write that out for me. If you put it on the left-hand side over there where it’s more dry, it’s not the drying time. It works somewhat. But if you put it on the right where it got set by minutes, like 30 minutes, it doesn't work it out. The dryer comes on, but the air does not get warm. I'm frustrated and disappointed because I paid $75. The problem was not resolved. They said it was in the vent and that wasn't covered by my policy. I called this morning to make a complaint. I paid someone to look at it but I didn't let him fix it because I refused to pay him for fixing it when I have this contract. I'm dissatisfied with American Home Shield.
Hi Joyce,

My fridge stopped being cool all of a sudden. I went online to make the claim and American Home Shield said they will have a person call me to schedule. Astro Appliance called me then they came out. They changed a starter and they said that would help the refrigerator. They fixed my fridge and so far, it's been good. It's cool. My icemaker, all of a sudden too was not making ice when I turned it on. I tried to reset it then I tried to clean it from the cleaning mode, but it still didn't make ice. I called American Home Shield for that too. On the whole, it was a very easy process to file a claim and it went very smoothly. The technician came as promised and the problem was resolved.
Astro was very professional. The technician that came was very nice and courteous, so I like them. The only thing that I asked was if they could give me a heads-up and call an hour before they came to my house because they had me waiting from 12:00 to 05:00. But they said they couldn't do that. I was like, “What? You expect me to wait from 12:00 to 05:00?” Come on. I could have done some other stuff in between. And then the rep said she could maybe give me a call 30 minutes ahead even though they normally didn't do that. I appreciated that even though I thought it was strange because when I called Sears or any other services for my other appliances, they would agree to call me an hour before. That way, I'm home to open the door.

I had two policies with American Home Shield. I have a home in Texas that I sold in the summer which had the policy for five years and then I have my current home in Virginia, which I've had a policy for two or three years now. We recently called in a preventive maintenance sort of inspection that was done for our house here in Herndon, Virginia. YAZD Mechanical came out and we've been satisfied. There were no issues with that service at all.
In my experience with my Texas home, every time I call, I get somebody who's outside of the country and I'm hearing roosters in the background. I've asked for a supervisor to call, they won't transfer me to one. I got one callback and they still couldn't answer the problem. They just don't understand and I have to repeat everything over and over again. It's rare that I ever have to escalate something, but the process for escalating and being able to reach a supervisor is pretty terrible.
I had an issue with an electrical component with my pool and AHS said it's not being covered under the policy. I pointedly agreed, and even the technician said, that they were wrong, but he couldn't do anything about it. I had to fight that with them. So I just paid him with American Home Shield and the follow-up process was terrible. I couldn't get anywhere. I asked to be transferred to the equipment department regarding the appraisal 'cause I was told that's where it was being rejected. I could not speak to anyone other than a customer service agent despite calling multiple times and requesting to escalate and speak to somebody. The five times I called and spent an hour-plus on each call, I was just told I couldn't transfer, I have to put a request and have somebody call me back. I only got to callback one of those four or five times that I tried.
Hi Brian,
I would be glad to speak with you and assist to get the issues experienced resolved.

We’ve had three different things and American Home Shield went ahead and tried to fix everything that we needed. They did good. However, the process took a little bit longer than normal when the icebox ran out on the surge of the hurricane. We had another refrigerator but it was out there on the back porch. I’m handicapped and I have to watch what I do. I was walking quite a bit. But otherwise, it was nice. The contractor got it in there as soon as possible. It's difficult to try to get a claim in. Everything is automated, but with people in their 60s or going on their 70s, it's hard to navigate that way. When you go through the phone, it gets a little difficult. It could be more streamlined, but that's only a suggestion for older people. Everybody's not tech-savvy to go online to do that. Maybe one day, I'll call when I have an opportunity to try to set up the online and how that works. That's on me for the lack of knowledge, but I'll get there.
I've had a home maintenance program before as well and they do a little different. American Home Shield gets paid upfront. You pay first your initial deductible and that took some getting used to. I like to know the people are gonna do my work and do it right before I hand the money in their hands or I can get a refund if I'm not satisfied. However, the service on my second claim was great. They were in and out and they fixed the issue. I had gotten put on hold for a moment, and I was two days without hot water. They said that as long as I wasn't flooding, so I imagine people who have flood issues will come first. That's understandable for me. As long as the equipment was fixed and it was very professional and done in a very timely manner, it was good experience. They're better than I expected.

I've been largely satisfied with what I've had. I've had one major issue where we had an AC issue, and we figured out that it was an issue with a contractor who had done work in the previous few years. AHS sent someone out. The contractor said, “We're not touching this,” but submitted an estimate to Home Shield. I could not get that estimate from either AHS or the contractor and it has been very frustrating. Because of that, there have been some funds I have not been able to recuperate.
The tech was perfectly nice. But I still wasn't able to get the information that I needed in order to get what we needed taken care of. It was outside of the covered range of work. I can accept the argument there. But I was still charged, at that time a trade call fee, and couldn't even get the written estimate that was provided. Because for some reason, AHS said they can't send any outbound emails, unless you do 10 backflips and three cartwheels, and give them your firstborn child. And the contractor became unresponsive.

I've done my claims with American Home Shield both online and via phone and it's been easy. For a recent claim I had, Bestway Mechanical came out and they cut a hole in my wall. But it was a central problem that didn't require them doing that. They said they would come back again and repair the hole. They haven't done that yet though. Also, the leak is still there. The issue was not fixed so they would come to look at it again today. Another thing is American Home Shield needs to have a plainer language on what is covered and what is not, especially with the plumbing and electrical. Last time, I paid for someone to come out and tell me, "Oh, that's not covered."

He couldn't understand what I was saying. When I bought the house, a cage was put over the unit outside. He told me that I need to move the cage in case he had to go in. I'm 70 some years old and I can't be doing that. I just let it go because my grandson had to get somebody else to come back because it cut off again and come to find out, they had charged me for antifreeze. They put too much in there and had to take some out in order for it to run like it was supposed to. Then with my recent claim, Wester Electrical came out and the guy said it was a short in the switch in the hallway bathroom. He fixed the wiring.

I’m not happy with American Home Shield at all. Submitting a claim is easy. I call in and I have a hard time communicating with their reps because most of them don't speak English very well. There is a language barrier, and they don't wanna hear what you have to say. This is the second time I've been with ASH and this time, I've only been with them a couple months. Before, I'd been with them about three years. But the people that they work with now are totally different than who they worked with three years ago.
Advanced Heating & Air came out for our claim recently and American Home Shield refused to pay for the repair. They said it was not normal wear and tear, even though Advanced said it was. I've had another heating and air conditioner come out on my own, and they say it's normal wear and tear. I can't get AHS to call me back or answer any questions. I wouldn't use them again and if I could get somebody to make them do what their contract says they do, that would be nice but they just blow it off like it's no big deal. I couldn't even get a manager to call me back. It's been a terrible experience. I read their stuff before and everybody said that they were the number one company, but if you go and investigate a little further, which I should’ve done and I didn't, it gives you all the complaints and that there's litigation against them for not doing what they're supposed to be doing.

In today's world with so many complicated appliances and other things that American Home Shield covers, I would recommend it to people once those things are out of warranty because it costs a lot for any repairs to them. I pay American Home Shield the standard fee to be paid for each repair then they cover everything else. They're up front about that. You always know what it is. It hasn't changed since I had them so there are no surprises. That's good. My recent experience with them went well. The contractor came when they said they would for my furnace, did the repair in a timely manner and I'm warm again.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

The process took a long time. My air conditioner broke down and the contractor got the compressor put in. It was a bad part and they had to send it back. It took another week for them to get a part which they could have purchased locally. It finally got repaired about two weeks ago but it shouldn't have taken that long. But so far, American Home Shield has been good. I'm gonna keep it. It's definitely good to have.

I had a refrigerator that stopped cooling. Submitting a claim for it to American Home Shield was pretty simple online. I can easily see my account information and submit that claim through the web. It then gets assigned to a vendor for service in less than five minutes. The contractors I've gotten have been okay so far but the challenge has been this ticket for my fridge that has been open for over a week. AHS sent a contractor out who does not have authorization to complete the service. When he got here, he had to go back another day after ordering the needed parts. I still don't know the date he is gonna come back and I have been without a fridge for a week. Other than that, the people I've talked to at AHS as well as their contractors have been friendly and helpful. My previous experience with a washer repair was positive and quick. I renewed my contract with AHS for another year.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

The drain line got backed up so it wasn't draining properly. It would leak inside the refrigerator part under the crisper so it got full of water. I did the claim on their app and it was user-friendly. American Home Shield said they assigned the contractor and to give them a call within 24 hours if they hadn't called to schedule. The guy was able to come in within a couple of days. He was nice, professional and did the job. I haven't had any problems since. Everything was good.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

I heard a pipe that was busted. I went under my house and saw that a leak was taking place. I called American Home Shield and their rep was fine. Discount Contractors was assigned to my claim and they were really good. They came out that day and called me to give me a timeframe. They came at the right time. Since the repair, the pipe seems to be doing good. I was very satisfied with them. That repair was extremely important. Before, I couldn't take a shower or do anything because I turned my well pump off which turned the water off.
This last time was a good situation. But I'm still having some issues with the previous claim I made with American Home Shield earlier this year that I have not been reimbursed for. American Home Shield is a good company. But sometimes it's extremely difficult to get certain things done. I've had a couple of bad experiences with them and a couple of great experiences as well. There should be easier communication with American Home Shield. Every time I call, I'd have to explain something over and over again. I wish there a point of contact and to be able to call back a certain somebody who deals with my case from start to finish and not a call service center.
To me, that holds people accountable. A lot of the problems with a lot of companies nowadays is that you have to call the 1-800 number. I don't care if the person is in the United States, in India, or wherever. At least you can hold somebody accountable if they're not doing their job versus just calling in and having to keep explaining yourself until somebody wants to take care of you. Overall though, the home warranty is worth it.

The lady gave me a date that they were coming but she had to cancel out so it was the next day. The people that came out to do the work couldn’t come until the next day but they showed up. They were prompt and they took care of the problem. They did a great job. This is not my first rodeo with American Home Shield. I’m originally from the coast of Mississippi and I used them all the time. When I went through a divorce, I got away from them. Then I came up here and got back with them. They were my preferred choice. I have recommended them to my sister-in-law and she's with them now.

The issue was with the RO unit and Waters Edge don't work on those. But they were able to turn off the water to it and then I had to call out a separate plumber to come out and replace the entire unit because it had completely cracked. But Waters Edge came out very quickly. They're usually always the contractor that comes out, and we really like them. They do a really good job. We're really happy with American Home Shield so far. It's been super easy to submit a claim because I've been doing it online most of the time. Sometimes the automated phone systems are hard to deal when you do the claim over the phone.

I had Patel's Plumbing come out for a bathtub that was stopped up and they addressed the problem. I normally use Aaron's, but I like diversity. My tenant also called me and said that everything was fine. I've had American Home Shield for 10 years since my wife and I were married and they proved to be very efficient. Every time I needed something done, I called them and they came.
It's very rare that I have had to keep calling them back and forth, but due to the COVID, sometimes the communication factor has not been the greatest. When I call, I'm on the line for hours sometimes. That's why I call at 3 o'clock in the morning when people are asleep, or they would have such a barrage of inbound calls. The later the hour, the more accessible it is. Still, they need to either hire more operators or give more people the in-house job because the wait time is terrible. Seeing how there are so many people who are working from home, and since American Home Shield is a multimillion-dollar corporation, they could afford to get more people jobs in their homes because it would help the economic structure. That also would avoid some of the wait time.
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.
