The initial complaint was water was leaking through the ceiling fan. It took a long time to do the claim because I tried to do it online and that process was more difficult. I didn't know which option to push under so I just called in which was much simpler. I got the name of the contractor and the available time they could come. When they came, they told me everything. They showed me a piece that was worn out on the pipe. They said I had a buildup in my sink and they were gonna unclog everything for me. They showed me what was in there. They also said that the water coming down from the ceiling wasn’t enough to cause any type of major concerns so that relieved me too. I love them. They’re the best American Home Shield ever sent out to me.

My pump wouldn't come on. I wasn't sure if it was my pool pump or the electric to the pool pump, so I marked the box for a pool pump and pool electric. And it just so happened, it was the breaker, and all the tech did was flip it and that was it. My husband said, "You know, I could have done that." But when something breaks down and I pay American Home Shield $100 deductible, I get quicker service than if I have to find somebody to come and fix something, and it's a lot less expensive.
Three years ago, I filed a claim with AHS for my dryer, which was only a couple of years old, but I didn't have the warranty on it. They sent somebody out very quickly, came out, ordered a part, changed out the heating board, but it still didn't dry. They came back out, changed it again, but still didn't dry. The third time they came out, AHS just sent me an email that said, "Hey, here's the value of your dryer, pick from this list. If you don't like this list, buy what you want, send us the receipt and we'll pay you up to X number of dollars." So, I went down to my local Sears store and I said, "What dryer can I have tomorrow in my house? I need a dryer." So, I sent AHS the claim and they sent me a check. I got a check within seven to 10 days. When I do need it like had it been the pool pump, $100 deductible, but it might have been anywhere from 4 to $600 if I had just had my regular pool guy come and change out the pump.

I had a great experience when AA Electric came out. The switch was not working well and the tech replaced it with a new one. However, when I pay a deductible of 100, I was told that I could do one claim with three different things. One time, I had an issue with one of my faucets, and the guy that came said that I could combine three of them in one work order. But online, it doesn't give me that option.

I've had American Home Shield for a while and, unfortunately, not dealing with people was the best route. In the past, when I've had to deal with the customer service, it wasn't that great and it was a hassle. Each time I had to deal with someone, I dreaded it. This recent claim was the best I've ever had with American Home Shield. Our AC was blowing hot air. I did the claim online and the guy from Dobkins called me that same day and set up the appointment to come out for the first service visit within two days. Dobkins came promptly then came back a week later because they needed refrigerant for the AC unit. They fixed it, and I’m happy now. It would be nice if AHS covered more than $10 a gallon for the refrigerant though.

The repair company couldn't figure out what was wrong with our unit, whether it's the compressor or the unit just needs to be replaced, which is what American Home Shield should have been doing. They don't want to replace it easily, so they patch it up until it falls apart and they have no choice but to replace it. Another thing is that their people overseas don’t know what’s going on and there's a language barrier as well. My recommendation is for American Home Shield to get a US-based customer service because there are so many mistakes that the people overseas made. They didn't even add a coverage that I had. I did it on my properties at the same time then I found out earlier today that it was only on one of them, so the rep had to make the adjustment.

AHS has been a good service to have. I had to utilize it and everything got done fine, so I'm pleased with that. It was very easy to submit the claim. I went on the phone and took care of it. I gave the information to AHS and they got back and let me know who my contractor would be. So the process went very, very smoothly. The contractor that they sent out for the AC did very well. They kept in good contact with me because they had to wait till they got the approval from AHS. We did have to wait a little while for the motor to come in, but they kept in contact with me and gave me an idea of about how long that would be, and then they were here when they said they would be. They were very thorough, professional and courteous.
We are grateful for the time that you've taken to share you AHS experience. Please let us know if you need any assistance in regards to your warranty. Have a great week.

American Home Shield is good. I pay them monthly since I’ve been with them, and I've never had any problems filing a claim. The only nick is that they are only gonna cover the parts, and I disliked that about them. A compressor in my unit upstairs kept shorting out the fan motor, so that needs a new compressor. It has to be ordered and it was covered. The problem is I have to pay 800 dollars out of pocket for the Freon to go into the compressor, and I haven't paid that yet. It's tough right now.

I had some issues with some wires crossing in my kids’ bedroom and my bedroom. I had to walk to my kids’ bedroom to turn on my ceiling fan. Sometimes, the light just wouldn't come on. And it was addressed. My kids’ bedroom didn’t need anything done. The tech just made sure the connection was still there. But for mine, something in the fan had burned out. Whatever the wiring was that connected the two, like the signal for whatever the panel was, was not connecting anymore. She gave me three options. Go to eBay and get the part, which means that it was a refurbished part, which means that it still may not work, or get a new ceiling fan, which would be the same model that was there.
I expressed that I didn't really like the look of the fan and I want something prettier. She suggested a retractable blade fan, which was the best thing to do. So I purchased a fan that was to my taste and that was the third option. Then she would install it and make sure all the wiring was connected. She also tried, because I was seeing if I could get something off of that fan because she was saying, the second option was that a fan would be included. It would just be installed but it would just be the same type of fan. I was just wanting to see if any of that money could be used towards the one I had to buy. I did a recent call saying that that was not approved. But all the other work was approved. I was really happy with Mary. She's from R & S. I really appreciated her work and guidance to get me a fixture that I really love now.
I had some difficulty with this ticket initially. It said closed and I worried because I felt afraid that maybe they would come out and just close the ticket and not do the work. I really wanted my ceiling fan to work. I sent AHS, “This is terrible. RMS is bad. I didn't get any result.” But then Mary called me a few hours later to set up the next step, so I was happy about that. Then I also had an issue with someone coming for the sump pump. No one came out for a while, but then someone came out. I don't know if that's American Home Shield's fault, but I appreciate the service and I was glad I was able to use it.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.

My neighbor called me and stated that the AC unit was making a loud noise. She asked if my tenant contacted me in reference to it and I told her no. So, I contacted my tenant and asked if she was having problems with the AC. She noticed when she got home that the unit wasn't as cold as it normally was. I told her to contact American Home Shield and that she’s responsible for the $100 and that AHS would send somebody out to service it. The AC repair guy came out and he stated that it was an old unit and it was gonna be harder for the parts to get ordered. It may take longer and he recommended for a new unit. I told my tenant that I didn't care how long the parts take if they could fix it, and it was why I have the home warranty. The tech had the part and the AC is fine now.
I had AHS back in 2017 and I hated them. My refrigerator went out and the contractor came out to repair it. There was a drain and it was plugged so, they had to replace the plug. But it took them several days to determine that and my refrigerator had been leaking on the floor. I thought it was my dog peeing on the floor and I was punishing my dog, and it was not the dog. That was the first time that AHS was called and the second time, I was completely unsatisfied with them. My water heater heats the house and heats my hot water. So, I had heat in the house. It was warm but my water wasn't getting hot. It stayed cold. So, apparently, they were linked together.
When the technician was sent out, they took my money. It took AHS two weeks before they sent someone else to come out. They closed out the order and said it was done, which it was not. They had to reopen the order and the new company tried to fix it. They said that the part was gonna take a while to order. It was coming from China. It took three weeks before they came out and the part was not the correct size. So, when they came out at that point, I fired them. I said that I would contact somebody on my own. I hired somebody else who came out and fixed the problem.
2017 was the only year that I used AHS but because my appliances are hitting in the life, I decided to get the home warranty. I decided to go back to AHS because of the familiarity and it was more of I couldn't add the appliances on the other packages that I was looking at. I was comparing the price to the services and they were much higher for the price for adding those services.
I've had experiences with AHS that I was not happy with but this last experience, the issue was fixed. AHS is a broker and they find somebody to come out and fix the problem as fast as they can, and they are fine on that end. But they should have more reliable service providers. These side brokers are terrible. So, AHS needs to vet these companies a little bit better than what's being vetted, because some of them, all they do is these contracts because they know it's guaranteed money. They're gonna get that service fee and they're gonna come out and do minimal work to fix the problem. Then, we have the same problem. That was the way the hot water thing went. They did minimal work to get it up and going. The first technician lied and said the service was complete, which it wasn't. All he did was collected my money.

I came back from Dallas and when I came to my house, it was hot. I filed a claim, and it took a week for the technician to come out, so I didn't have AC for a week. It turned out that the breaker had been tripped. The technician flipped the breaker, the AC was working fine (cold air), and it was great. A few days later, I noticed that my AC unit outside started making a loud banging noise. I hadn't heard that. Because the ticket was closed, I was gonna have to put in another ticket. I just had my account online that I set up, and I was like, "I'm just gonna put another ticket versus calling them like I always do," which I should have.
This second time I put the ticket, the company was quick. It took two days for the technician to come out and then he told me, "You should have just called them back and they should have just had the same technician come back out." I didn't realize that I had 30 days to call back. I called American Home Shield and I said, "I made a mistake." I tried to see if they could refund me the fee, but the rep said that a new technician was out and that they couldn't, not when a new technician was out.
My vents are all in the attic and the second technician ended up finding out that the water line that drains the furnace from the attic to the outside had become clogged, so there was water inside the unit. The unit has this safety mechanism that shuts off if there's water in there, but the water was not leaving as fast, so it kept tripping it on and off. This tech was really nice and he took his time. Both technicians were good. I explained to the second technician that I didn't hear that noise when the first technician came out. Overall, American Home Shield has been great so far. I would definitely recommend them if I had the chance to recommend to somebody.

The toilet in one of my bathrooms developed a crack in the tank and it was leaking. When I reported it to AHS, Central Ohio Home Maintenance was the one that was assigned to the repair. I did the claim over the phone and I got the voice prompts. It was pretty easy. Just follow the prompts. But it would have been better if I had a live person to talk to. Before somebody came out, one thing I got was the name of the company that said that Central Ohio Home Maintenance was the one, and they would be contacting me.
Central Ohio Home Maintenance did tell me some things that they couldn't do. I asked if they could maybe fix a slight leak in another valve that I had, but they weren't allowed to do that. I understand why they weren't. They also mentioned something about a lead drain pipe that's in my house that was built with it in 1960. They said normally, they weren't allowed to touch anything with lead but they went ahead and did the repair anyway. Apparently, those lead pipes need to be replaced with PVC pipes. That's the big soil drain.
Central Ohio Home Maintenance replaced the cracked one with a new commode. The repair helped out pretty good. They were pretty professional about it and congenial, and it worked out well. I'd tell others to look into AHS and see whether they can help. They've helped me, and hopefully, they can help them. I recommend them.

The repairman showed up within 10 minutes of the window that they gave me, came in and fixed my dryer that day. He was very professional and quick. I also had one other repair for a drain in my shower and I was very satisfied with the repair.

I'm fixing to cancel American Home Shield. I've been calling them for over the last several weeks about my air conditioning unit. They've been contacting air conditioning companies right away, and they don't control the air conditioning companies when they come out here, and I know that because they're subcontractors. However, the last air conditioning guy they sent out here said I either need to replace a bunch of parts, which was gonna cost me $2,400 out of pocket, much less what $700 that American Home Shield's gonna pay or I need to replace the unit, and that's gonna cost me about $8,000.
My sister, who has a real estate company, sent out her guy. It took him about 10 minutes to find the problem, and it was a $350 fix. These contractors that have been sent out really isn't a reflection on the service from American Home Shield. I'm glad they give that service but I pay for something to be fixed under my warranty. And when they tell me they're not going to pay all of it to get it fixed, I'm done. I've paid more than $710 a year for my service for the warranty, and they're not gonna fix it. They don't pay for incidentals, they're going to pay for that part that the air conditioner company said needed to be replaced, which wasn't the part that needs to be replaced. They're gonna pay $710 towards that, and I got to put out $2,400. That don't work very well with me.
There's no sense in me paying. They're never gonna replace anything. They're wanting to go in and fix little parts and pieces, and they kind of rig what you got to make it work. So, that's their warranty. I look around my house right now and I'm thinking, "Well, I need to replace my stove and refrigerator. They're certainly not going to do it because they're still working. I want to upgrade them." Why do I want to keep a warranty company that does not fix anything? My water heater went out three years ago. It was rusted out at the bottom and water just fell out of it. So, I put a new water heater in. I would bet that if I had done that under American Home Shield, they'd have tried to figure out some way of welding a piece of metal around the bottom of the existing tank rather than replace it. It wouldn't surprise me.

I had three past orders with AHS. Two were plumbing and one was electric. One of the plumbing claims was canceled and I'm waiting on a refund on that. But the other plumbing was done after that and the tech from Greg Rossi Plumbing who came out was good. I usually try to get him. He takes care of the job and is reliable. I submitted this claim online and the plumber that they first gave me had an F in the Better Business Bureau. He had a lot of complaints. So, I called AHS and requested Greg Rossi Plumbing because he came out here before and did a good job. I called back about three times on three different days and they finally got him.
Sometimes who AHS dispatches is frustrating and I wish they would filter out these people that have so many horrible negative reports and reviews. Also, when I call in, their call center is pretty rough. The reps seem not to understand my questions then they got to go look at a computer screen and look it up. It's just a long process. Other than that, the coverage has been good, so far.

I used American Home Shield before and I was dissatisfied with the electrician they sent. And since then, my husband has passed away and I was like, “This house has to be taken care of somehow. American Home Shield will at least know some and recommend some electricians and plumbers.” That's what I was looking for. I was looking for protection.
Recently, I printed out the confirmation that came from the website and went with that. That was how I knew it was Wester Electrical. They came out and checked the bad-smelling stuff in the house that I had complained about. It smelled like burning plastic. And they fixed two of the lights. The tech checked on the two places where we could smell it. He checked those two. He fixed one of the lights and then another. He checked some of the plugs in the other bathroom. We still have the smell. But he was extraordinarily patient and helpful. And I got the impression that he would do anything I asked him to solve the problem.

I made a claim for my Whirlpool washer and Frigidaire refrigerator. The person who did the ticket put in a claim for two tickets but when the techs came out, they only worked on the washer, not the refrigerator. Then, it took them another two weeks to come out to set up an appointment for the refrigerator. So I lost a full refrigerator of food and a lot of money. AHS told me that I could put in a claim for that but I didn't. Whoever on their end put the actual thing incorrectly and the ticket said, “Frigidaire washer.” So when the techs from Sears initially came out, they thought they were coming for a Frigidaire washer. Then later, when a tech came out for the refrigerator, he couldn’t fix the problem. He opened the refrigerator up and said that there was a line that he couldn't get to for whatever reason. He said it couldn't be fixed and we ended up purchasing another refrigerator because we have a full household.
Aside from that, AHS sent me a quote saying that they sent me a $1,100 and some change for my refrigerator. But that refrigerator, even though it was a little bit aged, still cost quite a bit of money. I had to replace it with the $2,800 refrigerator and even the cost that they were sending me is not applicable for that nor the loss of food I got. But I understand the differential, so I didn't argue about that. Other than that, their response time was great. Getting things done with the contractors is a different measure though.
Previously, a claim was put in for that washer in October and the person came out in November. They said they were waiting on the part and when they came back out, they took the part in then they said that wasn’t it and they couldn’t fix the washer. Then they kept going back and forth, and all the way up until January, they didn’t have a closed ticket on that washer, even though the techs told me that AHS would have to pay me out because they couldn’t fix the washer as they didn’t have the parts.
So I waited all that time. I even called AHS but I didn’t get any answer because they were waiting for the techs. Those people also barely came back out to fix that washer. The guy told me that they have the parts but I got an advise that the parts would be in in a little bit of time. It had been backordered back from Sears as well. So, I had to buy a washer because we have to continue to wash. So, from this moment on, if there's anything to go wrong wherever, I will ask for the Sears company that AHS have directed to come out here and do their work. They seemed to be the most applicable and most responsive in quickness. All those other companies, when AHS sent them out, they took at least a week to two weeks to come out.

When I had American Home Shield before, I noticed that they made you hang on to a really old appliance forever instead of replacing it. We had a lot of problems with our air conditioner. They kept patching it up and it kept breaking, then they finally did it. They should be a little quicker to replace something. This time, we had issues with our washing machine, a refrigerator door and a stove burner. My wife called them, then after that, I started getting text updates on when they planned to come.
I had to reschedule the first time, and I was able to do that through text message. It took me to a website, and I was able to adjust the date online. That was smooth, and everything was as promised. The repairman came within the window he was supposed to come, and within an hour, he had all three issues fixed. This is my first claim since I got AHS back, and I was pleased with it. All in all, it's a good idea to have protection. Having that option as a security, you don't have to pay out of pocket so much for different repairs. Then, I called them because it said, "Status: Call the servicer." I called and she said she was about to give me a call. It was within a couple of minutes of filing the claim. Then, the techs came and they tested it. They reset it. They said it was an issue with it being dirty underneath, so it shut off like a safety mechanism. So, they cleaned it all out and got it relit. It's been lit and working fine since they left. This is the first time that we've had to file a claim with AHS and it was a good experience. He said that the machine was working and the problem was with the drainage system, which was clogged up. He said he only works with the machine. I called American Home Shield and I told them this was the report. They said they were waiting for their report to get into their system. Then, they can let me know what's going to be the next. Now, I'm waiting for their reply.
This is my second year with AHS and last year, I did not have any problems with them. But I didn't have much to repair also. I called them one or two times and the technicians who were there were excellent. This year, the first thing I called for was my doorbell which was not working. One guy came and he said he had to open up my front door wall. I'm not a person who repairs anything but I always look and read, and I know some of the things and how to repair it. I told the guy I didn't want to do that. This has nothing to do with my front door electricity or wiring. I had the transformer there and I told him to take it out. Maybe that is not working and to add another one. But he said the wall needed to be opened.
I called AHS and asked them to send a second opinion. They asked me for $75 and I said that was okay but if I could call somebody from outside, it doesn't cost me $150 to repair that. I asked if $75 was actually needed. They sent somebody anyhow. Another guy came up and he repaired it in 15 minutes. There was a small transformer next to the connection, which was not working, so he took it out. I had another transformer sitting there but was not connected.
I had other companies before. They come in, check and if there is something else like a dishwasher or stove, they don’t repair but they normally ask me to sign the paper and they go. They send another person and I don't have to call the company again. They do the follow-up phase and they will take care of the processing. I had another issue recently in the same house. There is a half-circle knob on the wall under the sink for the water and it started leaking. One guy came in, looked at it and did something there. The water flow was gone but by evening time, it was flooded in the kitchen. So, I called back and told them that I cannot wait until three days. I need it tonight or tomorrow morning. Somebody needs to go into my house and clean it and put the knob back there. They said no and that they only have after three days. So, I had to call outside service and everything cost me only 175.
AHS was saying 75 first and the second people will come. I was not totally unhappy with that. Maybe AHS is working hard to satisfy the customers. But sometimes, it doesn’t go through that way. Because there's a third person always involved in their process. So, that is probably not their fault. It must be the other companies they contracted, or the workers or contractors.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I've just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

When you hit cycle on the dishwasher, it wasn't doing anything. It took about three weeks before it got fixed. On the first day, we made a video call. I knew exactly what was wrong with it and it was the motherboard. So, when I explained to the tech over the phone what was going on, he ordered the motherboard so that he could bring it in on their visit. That part took a little bit because I didn't answer the phone when they were trying to reach out to me. I get a lot of spam calls and I didn’t have the number saved on my phone. It was not until I logged into my account for American Home Shield that I saw that the status of the service call or ticket was pending because of no response from me. I found the number in there for the company who was doing service and I called them and made the appointment. The tech was professional and he fixed the issue quickly.
The service was good. The only thing was the hours when the contractor could come in. They would be here between 8:00 and 12:00, which was fine. But I'm a hands-on guy and I do research and I try to fix my own things. The only reason I went with AHS is that I don't have to spend time on that. If I have to stay in home, it’s kind of like, “Hmm.” But this time, it wasn’t like that because I didn't have anybody at home. My wife is out of town and I had to stay. But the tech showed up earlier than what I expected, which was great. And then, he was done in an hour.

There was a thing with my tub and it wasn’t working, and my garbage disposal was leaking. The person was helpful and arranged for somebody to come out here when I made the claim to American Home Shield. The only thing is, I'm trying to reach the company to set up an appointment for my leak and I still have not heard back from them. I've left them several messages. But the Industrial Water people contacted me right away. They came on time and fixed the problem with the tub. The person was professional and my experience was great with them. I’m thinking of renewing my contract next year with AHS because things have been good with them. They've always sent people over. Sometimes, it's the vendor or the contractor that could delay the process, but as far as AHS goes, they've always been very helpful.

I had a claim for a stove last summer and getting through American Home Shield was difficult. It was during COVID and I understood, but I was on the phone for three hours. Getting any follow-up was also impossible. They should get people to answer the phone. They should also not give the customer the run-around with trying to get a repairman. It was a very difficult repair because there was no motor available anywhere and they were trying to find one. It took me from the spring until late fall to get any answers on this particular motor for the downdraft for my stove range. But I've had claims with other appliances, and they've been phenomenal, especially in Florida. Sears is their main dealer there that helps with any appliances. Here in Hartford, they repaired the washing machine and it was excellent.

I put the request in for a plumber as I had water coming out of the bedroom doorway, my ceiling, wall and through the fire alarm. Because when you have that much water coming out, you naturally think that it's a plumber. I thought it was a possible broken pipe. When you fill out the claim online to pay for them to come to the house, it doesn't give you many options. So, I called them and I said, "I'm not sure if I filled out the right thing or not. But this is the issue. So you tell me who needs to come and fix it."
American Home Shield scheduled the gentleman to come. The plumber checked it and said that it was not a plumbing issue but heating and air conditioning and that there were no plumbing pipes up there. He right away called AHS and had them assign a heating and air conditioning person. The tech came at 10:30 at night. I was very thankful for that. He went up and said there is PVC piping to the heating and it had a crack and that he needed to replace it. He replaced that piece and had to put two pounds of Freon in the unit. That cost me $200 because that's not covered. He waited to make sure everything was running right, and everything seemed to be fine.
Lo and behold, here we are. I hear the dripping again, out the same exact places it was before. My husband is not supposed to go up there because he just had open-heart surgery but he went up there to look. The tech did it correctly and it was all still all perfect. My husband went back a bit further along the piping and found that the man missed a spot when he was here. I called the contractor first and they said they couldn't do anything until I call AHS first." I called and they assigned and notified the contractor. I called the lady to find out if I had to shut everything off again. Because the last time I had to shut everything off, it was 90 degrees in this house, and that is way too hot.
I said, "Could you give me some kind of range possibly when somebody will be able to come out?" She said nobody could here before Monday. I said, "I don't think that you quite understand the urgency of this." She said, "I understand what you're saying." I said, "Well, I don't think that you do because water and electric don't mix. And I don't want to have my house go on fire."
I called AHS back and the lady was very nice. She heard that I was really upset in my voice. So, she said, "I'm going to speak to my supervisor and see what we could do." She then said, "What we're going to do is escalate this so that you can get somebody quicker." So, I'm waiting for somebody to call me back and nobody has called me back. They said that I would get a call today. In order to help stop the water from continuing to drip, my husband took a very thin pan and slid it under the pipe so that the water would drip into the pan up there versus through the ceiling and into the electric. But that was all he was able to do. When he came down, I thought he would have another heart attack.
We had AHS for years in our house down in North Carolina, and we just moved into this house in March and transferred the coverage. I've always been very satisfied with them. I have never had a problem. Anytime in North Carolina that I called them, they came right away. One, two, three, it was fixed. If they couldn't come the same day, they came the next day. I've only had to call them in my old house a few times, but they were right on target. And they even called me back and asked if everything wasy okay. It's not their fault that the gentleman that came missed it. He saw that it was leaking from the one spot and there was a crack, so he fixed it, and he thought that it was done. People can miss things. It was 10:30 at night when he came.

When I put in my request, I was told I would be replied to within 24 hours, but I was not. It took over 48 hours. If I'm going to receive something that says, “Your technician will reply within 24 hours,” then that would be my expectation. So it was a little disconcerting with that. But it was fine because the claim wasn't urgent. The technician was professional. He did a good job. He took a look at the AC and told me what I was experiencing was normal. Since he was already out here, I asked him to go ahead and service the unit. So he checked the Freon and cleaned things. So the $100 was well-spent in that regard to at least have the peace of mind to know that it is operating properly and the potential for any future issues are slim. So overall, it was a good experience.
I bought the house from my parents, and they had American Home Shield on it. They highly recommended that I retain it so I did. Through that process of changing over, it was almost seamless, and American Home Shield made it very easy for me to be able to do that. There was an option if I wanted to make any alterations to which appliances were part of the protection or the warranty. So I appreciated all the flexibility that American Home Shield provided even during that transition time.

I submitted a claim through American Home Shield’s website. I checked boxes. Sometimes I could put notes in there and then, I hit submit. They took my money up front and the claim went through. Then, they told me, “You have a contractor assigned.” I got a text message with who they are. But I didn't get a phone call. The power was out in that one room, so I went ahead and tried calling the company after a couple of hours. They called me back the next morning and said they had an appointment between 10:00 and 10:30. I took it. The service provided by the tech was awesome. When the ceiling fan got hooked up, he said that the neutral was tied to the ground, which was causing the loop effect. The ceiling fan did not have to be replaced. It was still good to go once he did the wires and hooked it up correctly.
He was very interactive. Knew what he was doing. Took 30 minutes to find the problem and resolve it. It was the only problem, so we were good to go. It made my husband happy cause it was a ceiling fan in his bedroom. He was dying in there ‘cause he likes the ceiling fan on at night and he can't sleep, so he was without it for a couple of days. I was very happy with AHS.

I had my first claim with American Home Shield canceled. It was for my freezer. We just purchased the house, so we were kind of learning what goes on and doesn’t. But my freezer thawed out and started to work again. Recently, my toilet wouldn't flush. I worked with it and got it to flush, but it wouldn't stop running. I had the appointment scheduled for Friday. There was a death in my family, and I had to miss that appointment and cancel, and then reschedule another appointment for Monday.
DrainGo arrived and looked at my toilet. He told me that everything was good. But if I wanted, he could install a different part that I didn't know how to install. Also, I knew the toilet had been running before he got here. So I said, “While you're here, go ahead and install it.” And he installed the part and all is well. But if I had any complaint, it would be that I had to suggest to him to change out another part instead of him changing it himself. But the benefit is to have guys who actually know how to fix things here instead of having me stumble through and break things along the way.

I’ve had problems in the past with parts having to be ordered. If I’m giving the model for the piece of equipment that I have on hand, the repair company should have some type of parts referenced to that same model when they come out. I understand that they gotta diagnose it, but once they do, the turnaround time between getting authorization and then getting the parts ordered to get it installed, sometimes takes a little long. However, it was different with my garbage disposal service request recently. It went good and the repairman was able to solve the issue the same day, which made a big difference. I would usually do the service that he performed myself, but having bad knees and back, I can't do those things anymore. The repairman was courteous and knowledgeable.
Having the warranty helps take care of the labor that I would have to do myself, and it saves me time. I hope that American Home Shield continues to be efficient in time. Once they come out and do the diagnostic on those air conditioning systems in the summertime, if they have to order parts, usually it takes another week depending on the part. I’m a heat stroke survivor, so if my house gets too hot, it doesn't benefit me at all.
I always recommend American Home Shield. It's just that sometimes, the companies that are subcontracted by them don't have a reputation established, and they're trying to establish it. It's a hit or miss with everything. You may get somebody who was outstanding and would bring American Home Shield back with some more business, or you may somebody that’s just trying to make a dollar and not qualified, which makes it bad for the company.

Our AC unit was leaking Freon. It was not cooling upstairs and that's the big thing. Because it was leaking, I could not get the whole upstairs to cool down in some of the rooms. ATR came out. They were the second ones to come out. The guy found the leaks. They had to send to AHS and he requested that they get the parts to repair the leak. It’s a coil and then a valve. I'm waiting for that now. But I have not heard anything back since he left the other day. On the unit, I had requested a second opinion on this air conditioner. It's not the first time I had to call on my air conditioning. I try not to use them if I don't have to. But it's just that the service reps that they have, only come out, in my case, to patch up the problem instead of repairing the problem.
But I have found AHS to be a good company. That's the only one I've ever gone with. I would tell people, “If you have a home, it’s well worth having a warranty on it. Because you never know when something will go down.” For me, they have come in and they've done what they’re supposed to do in some instances, except for this air conditioner. Generally, it is also simple to get through to AHS when submitting a claim. But it's hard to talk to someone. But if you do it online, you can go ahead and get something scheduled.

So chances are, if we can't get a replacement part, we have to replace the whole thing. But we don't want to do that.” He fixed it and I have not had to light a pilot light again since that. So, thank goodness. With AHS, they pick the people. If they totally rip me off, I'm out 100 bucks and they're out whatever. So, they use good contractors. My air conditioning went out and the service guy came out twice. The first time, he said the issue was Freon, so he filled that up. Then the AC broke and it was not working after he left. But then he already knew it. He also said that the condenser was going to go out, and it did. But they had to go through these steps because they have to try to repair the unit. So, I lost all that Freon worth $580. Now he's saying it's going to take a month to get the parts. It was 112 degrees the week it went out and it's going to be 100-something this week, so it's not good. I have a small child here and this service didn't work out the way I expected. But it's probably within how AHS operates and I just didn't realize it. I also called my local air conditioning company and they said they could get those parts right away. So, I’m trying to decide what to do.
I called AHS about it and they said they'd open another service ticket. But I told them that I didn't need that. They then said to call them back in 48 hours if I haven't heard from Oasis about the parts. But I told them that I just talked to Oasis and they said it was going to be a month. The reps were kind but they were just reading from the script. You could tell they're just doing their job and there’s nothing wrong with them. The place that came out, Oasis, seemed really good too. The process is just not ideal for an air conditioning situation. AHS might be better in other home repairs, but for air conditioning, not so much.
At another time, I called AHS out and I didn't really have a great experience. The problem wasn't with American Home Shield but with the contractor that came out. That left a really bad feeling about the whole thing, so I never had the policies again until I moved here in Chowchilla. Right now, I'm also very dissatisfied because I didn't read the policy. I didn't do my due diligence in asking other people how the warranty really works, and it's not really the problem of AHS.

We had an issue with the AC three years ago. The rooms were all 80, but the thermostat in the kitchen area was 76. We called to have it checked and we thought we needed Freon. The contractor came out and said that there was nothing wrong with it and that it was just having a hard time keeping up because it was so hot. We told them that it was hotter last year and it kept up so there's got to be something wrong. They insisted that nothing was wrong. We said that it may be the thermostat. They told us that if we wanted them to do that, it would be another $150, and they didn't come out for that. They just gave us a hard time and so they left. We bought a thermostat ourselves, put it in, and that was exactly what it was. I called AHS and told them not to send that contractor out again and they have not sent them back since.
Recently, it's been mega hot here and the AC has been running a lot then it went off. We checked things and we changed the batteries in the thermostat, and it came back on. But it was running really hard and couldn't keep up. We called to have somebody come out and look at it. He said the Freon and everything else were good. Just, if anything else would come up, we let him know. Since the batteries and our thermostat went out, we didn't realize it was taking a while to catch back up, a couple of days to get back to normal.
We moved into a condo that we didn't know anything about any of the appliances. Every issue we've had, AHS had come through for us. I call them, and any given time, they come up with a reasonable person fairly quickly within 12 or 24 hours, and then we call and make an appointment. We renew it every year and we go through it. The $75 for the person or a contractor to come and troubleshoot or fix things is good because it might be hard for us to find one and do stuff for us. It's worth it, at least for the first year.

I tell people that AHS is affordable and most things are covered if something happens so I'd tell them I'd get it.

I had a drip in my condensation waterline and it was leaking. Ambient Air, the contractor, came out and found that there was a blockage. They got rid of it and everything has been working fine. They were professional, did the job and cleaned up their mess when they were done. They were full of information and left some options if we were interested in any of their further services. Here in Tucson where during the summer it's over 100 degrees every day, the repair made life much more comfortable. I’ve been with American Home Shield for 28 years and I'm usually very happy. With American Home Shield, I feel like I'm getting my money's worth when things break. I've been pretty happy with most of the people they've sent out. There were some who seemed angry from the get-go and were super unhelpful. They didn't really fix the issue. There was leakage happening under my toilet because I could smell it when I'd go in the bathroom. They put a new toilet in, but they did a really shoddy job of caulking and installing it. I can still smell the stuff. They put the cheapest toilet in possible. They covered up the problem. I'm just waiting until I remodel my bathroom to replace the toilet.

I put the claim in on Thursday evening and they didn't come out till Tuesday. So we had to go to a hotel and the lady got a little smart with me, saying, “Ma’am, this is our peak season." But the serviceman was perfect. AHS is okay, but it seemed like when I was using it a little bit more, the companies tend to always put me towards the end of their day. Even this time. I even asked the lady, “Are you delaying?” She said no.

Every claim I've had with AHS has been a nightmare, dragged out to get things taken care of. My air conditioner had an issue that started two and a half months ago. It's still ain’t fixed yet. They deemed that they needed to replace the unit, which they've done. But they've ordered the unit twice and it's been the wrong unit every single time.
Right now, I'm dealing with a guy that was supposed to come to fix one of my double ovens. I called them a week ago and told them that the guy came up missing. I've called him and texted him. He scheduled an appointment three weeks ago to come and install it. But he was no show, no call and I couldn't get him back on the phone. They went back to do escalation. I called back again yesterday and still the same problem. Nobody can get him on the phone. I still have no update as to when the ovens are gonna be fixed and that’s a month over at this point.
My hot water heater is acting up. I called Monday and they told me, “It takes a day or two for it to go in.” No big deal. I called back yesterday, according to what they told me, it was still never submitted. There has to be a way to where they have a system set up to where the consumer is notified once the contractor actually submits the claim to them to know that the ball is starting to work in the right direction. Because I waited a week for this to take place. Yesterday, I finally got all three parties on the phone, finally got it submitted correctly. Now, I'm probably waiting another week for it to go through the process of actually either getting approved or what did they want to do to try to figure out how to fix a hot water heater.
So, the drag-out timeframe that it takes to either know if something's going through the process or being approved is just too long and the consumer doesn't know anything. They don't know where they stand. They can call, and knowing the people I've been able to talk to, they know just as much as you know before you even make the phone call. They tell you the exact same thing you know already with the claims just sitting there. It's like, “Can somebody give me an idea when I can expect an answer or a result to what my problem is or what am I doing?” More communication will definitely help the equation.

The contractor came out the very next weekday. They were very knowledgeable. They were able to do a same-day fix. This was the third time I've had to do my air conditioning in three years. The first time someone came for the air conditioning, the person didn't seem to get it right. Then the contractor have been making multiple return visits for it. The second time, it was irritating to be having what looked like the exact same problem again a year later, but it did turn out to be a different problem. I submitted the claim online. It was simple and easy. I like how American Home Shield texts you. They text you when the person is coming, and they give you a little map that shows you when they're getting closer. When you call, it varies who you speak with. Soemtimes, they're very knowledgeable about the policies, and sometimes they're not. For the first two years, we bought the well pump extra because somebody told us that it covered our septic pump. But our septic pump broke, and guess what, it does not cover septic. It only covers well pumps. After I learned that, I canceled that part of it the next year. Recently, the AC unit was leaking water out of our drainage pipe and the pan was filling up. It was addressed quickly and correctly. The contractor came out, cleaned up the line and fixed it.

I had a plumbing claim with American Home Shield and that worked great. The tech was excellent. I also have a claim for the air conditioner which was filed on May 28. The air conditioner is not working on the bottom half of our house. A tech with Expert Air and Heating out of Lonoke came out and he ordered the parts. After that, he never called nor returned my call. I called American Home Shield four times and they never documented that I called. Every time I called, we had to start over. They would say they would have to call Expert Air and Heating and get them to tell us if they were coming out. They would call but the contractor would never answer. After the fourth call to American Home Shield, someone was able to get ahold of Expert Air and Heating.
Also, every time I spoke with someone, it was a foreign personnel. They spoke English but every one of them said they couldn't find notes where I had called before. I don't understand how a company works without writing notes to communicate with each other. These are call-in places. They're not in one location, so they have to have some kind of communication system and they're not communicating well.
Expert Air and Heating said their tech was gonna come out on Tuesday this past week. I texted him asking if he was coming out on that day and he said he would come sometime around lunch. But he never showed up and he never called me. I texted him again. He never called. We have not gotten the air conditioner fixed. Expert Air and Heating said that the part that they ordered in June is on backorder. If I had to depend on that air conditioner, we would be dead because it's in the 90s here.
We also put in for a service with the second air conditioner and American Home Shield set it up with Expert Air and Heating again. Their tech never showed up for that either. This has been going on since May 28th. It’s now the middle of July. I'm very dissatisfied with the contractor. I am also dissatisfied with American Home Shield, almost to the point that I would look for another company.

I got an email from American Home Shield telling me that Doctor Cool was going to come out and they gave me some phone numbers. Doctor Cool called me and gave me a timeframe. The techs came and did what they needed to do. The issue was that the unit wasn't heating. They inspected it and checked to see how much Freon it had. Right off the top, they told me that it didn't have anything. Then, they took temperatures.
I ended up paying $900 out of my pocket for Freon. It was 80 bucks a pound and my unit took 11. So that ended up at about 800 and some dollars plus the $100 deductible that I had to pay. AHS only paid 10 bucks. If they paid 40 bucks, half of what that was, then I would be a little bit happier. But that's what it is. Still, the experience with AHS was good and I would recommend them. It would be a little bit more of a personal thing though if they didn't use automated. You couldn't ask any questions that you might have in your mind. I am not a happy customer of American Home Shield, and I am considering canceling them next month. When I signed up for them, they said, “Hey, we're going to send you a brochure. It's going to discuss what's covered.” But overall, they're giving you this synopsis of all the things that’s covered such as the hot water tank, furnace, garage door, refrigerator, stove, washing machine and the dryer. So, you’re pretty much going in thinking, “Okay, I'm going to pay you this $100 deductible or service fee and everything is a go.” I understand some residual cost associated with it. But the whopping additional fees that I've had to experience with this company is nothing short of ridiculous.
My hot water tank recently was leaking. So, I called them and a company came out. I have a 80-gallon water tank. The company said, “Oh, they only cover 50 gallons. So we're gonna have to install a compartment at the top of this 50-gallon water tank because you currently have an 80-gallon water tank. And that's going to cost you at minimum $450 on top of the $100 service fee.” I've never heard of such a thing. When I called American Home Shield, they were like, “Yeah, it's in the warranty agreement that we only cover up to a 50-gallon.” “What? So since you only cover a 50-gallon, I have to come out of pocket to get all these other connectors and parts totaling up to $450?” I'm not happy so I opted to do the cash-out. I was about to call that company because I opted to do the cash-out value. They said they'll pay up to 685, so they may pay less. I'm very dissatisfied with and I would not recommend anyone to American Home Shield.

When I spoke with an American Home Shield representative about setting up an appointment, she asked me what the problem was. I explained to her that there was a timer in the basement that controls the electrical systems of the house, and that the timer wasn't working. The timer has a clock in it that turns it on at a specified hour and turns it off at a specified hour. She said that it would be covered under the contract because the electrical system is within the house itself. It's in the basement. And she said that she would give a report to the electrical contractor, and he would set up an appointment to come and take a look.
The contractor called me yesterday after I had spoken with a rep at AHS. And he said, “Listen, I'm right around the corner.” He happened to be in the neighborhood. He said, “Is it okay if I come over and look at it?” And I said, “Sure, come over and look at it.” And he confirmed what I suspected was the problem, that the clock is not working. So he said, “It needs a new clock.” I said, “Okay.” And he said he has to speak with the warranty service to see if it's covered under the warranty. I said, “All right. Let me know what the story is.” And that's where we are at a moment. The contractor came out yesterday and said that the clock needs to be replaced, and that they would speak with the warranty service about replacing it.

Usually, when I put in a claim, American Home Shield responds right away. The contractor for my refrigerator was excellent. They diagnosed it and they had the needed part within a couple of days. They came again and fixed it. I had a really good experience. The company they brought out for my AC recently was really good with their timing, customer service, and knowledge of what was wrong with the equipment. They were better than the last company last year that didn't know what they were doing. That company had to come out five times.
Reviewed July 16, 2021
The claim itself is surrounding a claim that was filed in July of last year. I filed the claim because my AC wasn't working, and then July last year, a guy came out from All In One Heating and Cooling and he installed a new outside unit. But what I didn't know was everything else, that they had paid him and gave him to install. So, the lines kept freezing up so he kept coming out.
So, this year in May, when I talked to them to ask them the issue, the line continued to freeze up. American Home Shield sent a company out here called Crews Electrician, and Crews reported back to them that I needed a new gas furnace and that's where it got complicated. Because according to the records, last year, I had a gas furnace put in along with the air condition condenser. So, I kept telling them, "No, I don't have a furnace put in. The only thing they put in was the condenser outside." That's where it became a problem because under the records, notes, and the bill that they paid it shows that an outside condenser was put in, it shows that a gas furnace was put in and it shows that the evaporator coil was replaced.
Come to think of it, the guy from All In One didn't do all that. He submitted that he did because they bought the equipment and they paid him to install everything. But all he did was install the outside air condenser. So, I went back and forth with Crews for two weeks, then, they finally got it over to a different department.
And then, I was working with a lady named Joy. She said that the field supervisors that are over all the technicians in the field, wanted Reynolds to come out and verify the information that Crews Electrician had submitted. She did everything that was in her power to do and resolve the issue for me, and she stayed in touch with me constantly. I would hear form her every two or three days, even if she doesn't have new information to tell me, she would still call me and say, "Hey, this is what we know. I haven't forgot about you. I'm waiting on some answers from this department, I'm waiting on some answers from that department. But I just want you to know that I'm still here with you and I'm working on it." She could have just called me and said, "Okay, this what I'mma try do." And I never hear from her again until it was all said and done.
I had pictures on my phone showing her how the lines were freezing up. So, when Reynolds came out, the problem was that when the guy installed the new air condition, he didn't change any lines, he had new Freon and the new Freon that they're using now was mixed in there with the R22 Freon that was in my evaporator coil. So, everything just went to shot. But once Reynolds gave them the report to verify what I had been telling them for almost a month, that I never had a furnace put in, then, we all got on the same page.
Reynolds did inform them that I did not have a new furnace, and the only thing I had was an outside condenser. And at that point, they had to do some more investigation to find out why I didn't have a new furnace when they kept saying that it was bought and paid for and paid to install. Now, they got me on the schedule for the 28th and 29th for this month to install a new furnace, a new evaporator coil, and a new outside condenser. Because Reynolds told them that because the way the guy hooked it up didn't change any lines, didn't flush any Freon out, old Freon was mixed there with the new Freon. So, he was saying that the outside condenser is damaged as well even though it's a new condenser. AHS decided to just give me a new HVAC system completely.

I usually call American Home Shield and tell them what my issue is. They're right on it, it gets done. But this time has really been frustrating. I called and told them I had an oven, a stovetop, a dishwasher, and a microwave that needs to be taken care of. When they finally sent out someone, they only came for the oven. I called AHS back and they said they'll take care of that and get someone out. Well, I never heard back so I called again. They still said the same thing. I called again because they still weren't having someone come out. This third time I called, they said that the oven guy’s coming back because there was a part needed to order. I asked if he would take care of the other appliances and they assured me that he would be. When he showed up, he was only ordered to do the oven.
Again, I called AHS. I was pretty ticked off at that time and asked for the supervisor. They said they couldn't connect me with one but they assured me that they would take care of it. They finally did, and I got a company to come out that took care of everything. The microwave needs to be replaced. I still have an appointment for the oven on the 28th for them to either replace it or fix it if they could find parts for it. But it's a very old oven, so they might not be able to find parts for it.
I had an issue with plumbing and that one went fairly smooth. It's not done yet. I have called about an appointment with them to come back out and fix the rest of the stuff. I haven't heard back from them on that, which is something I'm going to have to call on again. Overall, I was pretty frustrated. American Home Shield needs their people to do the job they said they’d do and they should have a little bit better follow-up to make sure that things are taken care of.

My air conditioner wasn't working and it was 85 degrees in our house. I called American Home Shield, they set things up, and it was awesome. The AC company came out on Friday morning and they were professional, timely, and excellent. They had to replace a part that had something to do with the compressor. They were done within an hour, and we're back to having air conditioning. All in all, I recommend American Home Shield, and I've already given information to coworkers and talked about them.

The wait time to communicate with AHS was lengthier than expected. I had to be on hold for 12 minutes just for someone to pick up the line which was a bit excessive. Also, the rep was a bit combative and I was very assertive in what I wanted/I didn't appreciate that. But I was very assertive in what I wanted and she finally scheduled someone to come out. However, she gave me a very large window time and I'm very busy. But, the agent was very punctual and communicative in terms of what he needed to fix as well as what he could and couldn't do.
Additionally, I had to call AHS a few times because they said that my plan was discontinued or expired. I pay on time every month so in terms of billing setup, that was the issue for me. Other than that, I really appreciate AHS's services. It's a phenomenal thing because of the cost I'm getting for the repair and expenses. So, it's definitely good to have. I recommend it to everybody.

The AC suddenly stopped working and we immediately got a hold of American Home Shield. It was very easy to reach out to them on a Sunday. The gentleman came on Monday morning. It was the time when he was supposed to come. It was a very easy work for him to figure out what was going on. He just went out and looked at the condenser. He checked where the wires were. He even showed me the pictures that some chipmunk scratched all the wires. He put the wires all in place and then changed the capacitor, and the AC started working. He was able to patch up things properly.
This time, American Home Shield's claim process was very easy. Earlier, we had some issues. They were not able to help. We had some pipe leakage, and to get to the leakage, they had to break the wall. They didn't take care of breaking the wall. We had to pay from our own pocket the person who came for the service. That was something that AHS did not take care of, which is not a good thing. If there's some issue, then they should just take care of everything rather than me calling up somebody else. But it is what it is, so we just didn't bother.

The shower handle broke off from the wall and it was covered by our home warranty. Last year, we also had techs come out for our air conditioner four times. We spent days and days without air conditioner, and it was hot. But every time, if there was a leak, they'd fix it. The air conditioner was old, so they do everything in their power to try to fix it. Even if it's broken, they'll just temporarily fix it. And then, it’ll just break again. Other than that, I would recommend AHS.

The experience overall goes from extremely wonderful to extremely terrible. With American Home Shield, it's very hard to call and get an answer. The best way to get a contractor here is to file a claim online. But then, if there's an issue that is not regular, just clicking buttons and talking to someone is very difficult. I've waited several times for 50 minutes to talk to someone and the one that I was the most frustrated with was when the guy said they have no system and there was no way he could help me at the time. I had an air conditioning claim and we had issues because I needed to talk to a person. But once I was able to get through to someone, we managed to get that all fixed.
But we also had a fridge claim and we told AHS several times the contractor was horrible and we needed something else. We were without a fridge for about a month. The guy who initially came out was the worst and ruined our fridge a little bit more. My husband told him that he had burned something when he came the first time and he did absolutely nothing. Then, he was trying to blame the storm. Also, their rudeness was all over the place. After going back and forth and complaining several times, I gave up. But then, AHS assigned a new contractor, finally, and the new contractor was wonderful.
The tech tried several pieces and explained everything. They needed a piece and he would know if the piece came two days later. He would let me know then if he could come and install it. Then, they came out and fixed the fridge. They said they would call 24 hours later to see if it was working and they did. The fridge was working and he said to give it a little bit longer and then, we can put food inside, so we did. The fridge has not done any bad things since they came. And it was good customer service from the person on the phone and the guys that came over.

A contractor came out and repaired my refrigerator in July. Recently, the air conditioning went out during our hottest time here in California. American Home Shield sent Martin with True Masters out on Friday, and he did a couple of things out there. Then he came in and said that it couldn't be repaired. He was going to turn in the report to American Shield then I have to wait for them to get back with me to tell me what they're going to do. I called True Masters yesterday and asked them what's going on. They said they're just sending the report to American Home Shield. So far, American Home Shield has been on top of sending somebody out to repair, but the appliances have not been repaired. Somebody should have gotten in contact with me but nobody's contacted me. American Home Shield should handle their customers a little bit better on the other end.

Recently, a technician came out, looked at the washing machine and didn't feel like it could be repaired. On the dryer, it had been making some noises for a while. I've had my refrigerator, washing machine, and garage fixed over the years that AHS covered me. I've seen people talk about timeliness of the service people coming out and anything between 24 and 48 hours is sufficient time. I had my water heater go out before and I had triplets. So that was kind of a unusual circumstance. But they did the best they could to give me service given that I had a little infant. So stuff like that matters especially when they can look at extenuating circumstances and try to put forth the effort.
One time, I was trying a new company with my new house, Choice Home Warranty, and they were horrible. There was no personal communication and they didn't have one of my claims. Their information was misleading, so I immediately cut them off and reached out to AHS. At the time, I didn't know that they would transfer my insurance from one house to another. I thought I would have had to go with a different company. But they worked that out for me, so that was really awesome. I tell all my people, my mom and siblings that have homes, that AHS is the best thing to go with. You always have people out there that have had bad experiences, but my experience have been nothing but good. We've been members of American Home Shield since 2003, but the service has dropped off considerably starting about last year. Then this year, we had a very bad experience with our icemaker on our refrigerator and part of that problem was the service technicians that American Home Shield uses, which is A&E. They did a poor job and they did not inform American Home Shield that they were going to order another part. So A&E wound up charging us for that part. We called American Home Shield 15 times trying to resolve the situation and trying to tell them that the icemaker is still not working. And it wasn't until much later that I finally got ahold of someone that was able to help me. They were able to figure out that what had happened and that A&E did not handle the call right. But that didn't help my frustration and didn't solve any of the problems that I was having.
They are going to solve the problems now, but it took so much frustration from me and my wife to finally get the problem solved. I’m to the point where I'm ready to drop American Home Shield. If I could do it today, I would do it today. But I need to get my problem solved first and I'm going to give them another opportunity until the time my contract runs out to see if they can actually fix a problem.

I have an LG front loader and the pump had stopped working. We contacted American Home Shield on the internet to request someone contact us on Saturday. And by Sunday evening, we got a text saying that C & C had been assigned to our request. And someone from C & C called me that evening and we set up the appointment for Monday.
He came, he was very efficient. He even asked me ahead of time if I had any idea what was going on with it. And I told him that I was pretty confident that it was the pump that needed replacing. And when he found out the brand I had, he said he had pumps available. He would bring one with him, just in case. He was very professional. I've done 10 loads of laundry since, and it's working great. My machine was obviously not working efficiently because now, my towels are drying much faster. I was having some issues where if I tried to wash towels, then I was getting uneven loads. And I now realize it was because the pump wasn't working efficiently. And then it just stopped working.
We've been customers of AHS for almost 16 years now. And most of my interactions with them have been very good. I went through a period about two years ago. Most of the people they would send out were from Greenway. And while I had great experiences with them, like servicing my air conditioner, I was very displeased with two people they sent me, one was for the very same thing, the pump had gone out on this washer and had broken. When the repairman showed up, he tried to upsell me into having him clean the interior of my machine. He wouldn't even go to the point of diagnosis. He was trying to upsell me in more services. And I finally had to ask him to leave because he was very insistent and would not even address checking the pump for me.
I called AHS asked if they could send a more experienced person. They did, and he was very professional. He came in, he had a pump. He said, “There's nothing wrong with your machine. It just needs a new pump. It's a common thing go out on these machines. It's about the only thing that does.” And I've been told that numerous times, which is one of the reasons I bought the machine in the first place.
And then a few months later, I have another LG appliance. It's a refrigerator and there are two drawers on the bottom. It's a French door on the top, and it has two drawers that pull out for the freezer. And the mechanism where it pulls out and then it closes itself, I couldn't open the door. It was frozen or bent. I told them what it was that was hung up. And they sent somebody to repair it.
When he got here, he didn't have the parts. He had not even looked up what the parts were even though I gave a model number. And when he got here, he couldn't get the door to open either. So he took the front of the door off, checked the trays out, and then proceeded to just beat the daylights out of it with a big wrench. He started beating on it, and I was concerned he would break the wall of the freezer. And I didn't want that to happen. If the interior got broken, I would have been out of luck. He turned to me and said, “Oh, don't worry, ma'am. We're going to have to replace this part because it's not working right. ‘Cause right now, I'm just trying to get it to where it'll work for you for the next few days while we order this part.”
When I did not get somebody to call me back within seven days about this part that he had beat up and he would order for me, I called AHS to follow up and asked. And they said, “Oh, there's no part ordered.” It was always a matter of, “Oh, you'll have to talk to this manager,” or “The warehouse manager needs to talk to you.” The bottom line was, they had no intention of ordering the part. So this guy just waylaid on my machine, hoping he wouldn't puncture the sidewall and make it a much worse claim. And then they disavowed having any follow-up with it.
Because of that very poor interaction after having the young man come out and try to upsell me on cleaning the inside of my washing machine -- which was not dirty. I was considering leaving AHS for that reason, because they would not help me with either of those issues. They just referred me back to the service provider. I don't have a choice who they send out because it's them choosing who comes to my house. I felt very unhappy with them. But they've improved. The claim got filed much quicker than normal. Usually, if we file the claim on the weekend, it wouldn't be until Monday morning that we got a response. So they've done something different about the way the reporting is done. So this was good. Because my machine was only down for two days instead of the usual week it would have been down.
What I do tell people in general is it's a really good idea to have this kind of coverage. I know there are a lot of companies out there. So this service suits me very well because I also have an outdoor swimming pool and they include the pool maintenance on the equipment. Not all companies do. So for me, that's the only reason I have them go to another service like this, because it's more inclusive than the other ones that I've shopped since I had my two bad experiences close together. Also, AHS, in general, has been very good for us. I've just had a couple of bad experiences and they seem to have changed course.

When I had a leak in my pool pump, the claims process online was pretty simple. I received a call in a timely manner. Then the technician came out and he was able to fix the leak on site that day. I've used American Home Shield at least once every year I've had it. I'm a penny pincher. So, each time, I look to see if it would cost me more to have to pay the $100 service fee, or I can do some simple repairs on my own and see if I can do the part myself. The times I've called American Home Shield may not have been cheaper to buy the product or the part, but it would be easier and less work for me to have to replace or do whatever service needed to be done. So whenever I called, it was always a cost-benefit analysis that I did before opening the case.
Over the years, the policy has gone up a little bit of money. If it goes up much more, I may reconsider having the service or checking other companies. But as of right now, the cost-benefit is my favorite and I'll continue using American Home Shield. It saves me hundreds or thousands of dollars in repair costs with the issues I've had in the past.

American Home Shield’s website is okay but I always have to call a couple of times to make sure that it processed the payment. It has happened three times. I have a credit card on file on the website and I process it, but when I go back in and check, it says it's not paid through. It takes a while for credit card transaction to show up. It's always a confusing part. It would be good to get a confirmation that the payment was made. I’m suspecting that once the payment is submitted, it goes to some other system for payment processing so it immediately doesn't show. When I make a payment to any other place, it will immediately say that the payment went through and provide the transaction ID. The AHS website doesn't do that. It says payment is pending and I have to go back the next day to see that the payment is made. One time, it wasn't made.
The service from Simon Appliance was fantastic. The water was not draining from the washer and they replaced the pump on my washer. The experience was good with AHS. When you have to do something online, American Home Shield doesn't give enough room for explanation. I had an experience with my last house where I had a situation where through an inspection, when I was selling that house, there were four things that needed to be addressed in the electrical junction. But there was no place to write a note to alert to do anything or to tell you that there was anything otherwise. And they charged me, more than once to have the person come out. Because they only came out with one circuit to adjust. And I said, “I could have told you there was four if there had been room for me to type in a note.” “Oh, that was your responsibility to call the vendor.” “Why? Where did it say that?” The vendor called me and said, “We'll be out to fix it on this day.” ”Okay.” Nobody thought to say, “Oh, by the way, you know there are four things that are broken, right?”
I expected them to tell me or to confirm what the inspector found. Not, “Oh, by the way, I'm gonna have to pay another $100 plus for you to come back out here, now that you know there are three more things that have to be fixed.” And when I request a supervisor callback, no one ever calls me back. That has been my biggest complaint about them. I have had them call me back, when they're like the eighth person I've talked to, call me back.
Because my last experience with AHS, in general, was there was a warning when I put in the thing for my warranty that said for the HVAC service, “Oh, it expires in less than three months. Did you want to renew?” I would say, “Oh, yeah, I do.” So, I renewed and they immediately billed me. “Hold up. You don't get to bill until three months." And then, it took forever for them to give me my money back. It took over an hour, at one point, on the phone of my time, and four people. And none of them could help me. No supervisor, no nothing. And then, it took a second call that took 45 minutes of my time. That person has called back. But still, the refund wasn't there until I called back the third time and did it.
But the only way, also, to get that money back, was to cancel the renewal. I have to be reminded to do it again, which is stupid. These people have lives. It's ridiculous. All you have to do was refund me $66. “Oh, no, the only way we can do that is if we cancel your renewal.” “Really? We live in the 21st century. People can hack a pipeline, and you guys can't figure out how to refund my money?” We cannot be this ignorant. Come on.
As a whole, out of all the warranty companies out there, I will stay with them for now. But when you have to do with them directly, if you have any kind of issue, it's a pain in the butt. They're all polite, but you get into the voicemail hell. And nobody you get to can help you. It would be helpful it there was a line to put in there if you have extra notes that you could pass on to the vendor that they choose for you. Because they're just going to “pop.” They're pushing the buttons. This is all automated to them. I have to get lucky and I get a good one. I have issues with AHS, but I keep renewing.
Read the fine print. AHS generally tends to cover more than some of the others. But read the fine print on things like, “Do they cover Freon?” “No, but nobody does.” “Do they cover damper issues?” “Sometimes. Sometimes not.” Know your system. Do your research. And some of them, you just got to suck it up, and then decide whether or not you want to risk it, how old your stuff is, whether you want to pay $75 for a service fee, or pay a little more and then pay $100 for a service fee. Recently, the AC was not cool. We just wanted to make sure. Because it was very hot, but then, it was getting into the 80s in the house. And we thought, “Better have a just checked out and make sure the pressure is good, everything like that.” So, we had somebody come out, they did a check, and everything seems to be fine.

The tech walked up. He wore a mask. It was so hot outside, almost 100 degrees, so I was like, "Listen, I'm gonna be inside. If you want to take that off, you can." Very professional. Love the guy. He took longer than he expected because he had one little problem, but he was great. However, we weren't anticipating paying for the part we needed. We paid $495 in addition to our 100. So, it wasn't a good experience financially for us. My husband would have liked to know that in advance, that they didn't cover what the person was coming out to do. We should know whether we're going to have to pay hundreds out of our pocket when the guy shows up. We keep using them so there are some good stuff, but they really made me upset this week.

We had a leak and a disposal that wasn't working at all. The contractor addressed it, and they did it quickly, professionally. They explained it and took care of it. The claims process with American Home Shield was not too bad and my only issue was trying to figure out what was covered and what was not. There was a lot of fine print going back and forth. We covered this part of the system but not that part. I wish it would be a lot simpler.

The techs who came did a great job and my washer was working good. We were on vacation for like two weeks right after it got fixed. Then we got back and we did a lot of laundry and it errored twice when we got back in all the loads we did. I just thought I would call and put a request because I thought it was the same error that it was getting before the techs replaced the control panel. So, I put in another request to American Home Shield, and the tech came back out and looked at it and ran the codes to see what other codes popped up. He said there were no codes that were saved and the error that I was getting was that I was using too much soap. So, he didn't do anything the second time except look at the codes and say I was using too much soap. My husband's a contractor and I do use two pods instead of one because I don't use scented soap and it takes two to get all the stink out.
The washer is working fine and he said if it errors again, I should call again. He did a good job and he said just to use one pod instead of two unless it's a really bad one. He said when the washer drains, there are still bubbles in the drain. It can sense that. If it can't get all the soap out in the regular rinse, and then it drains, it detects the soap in the drain, and then it rinses again. It hasn't done the error again in the last week, and we've been using less soap.
It is so nice to work with American Home Shield. I had a different company before them and it took me two months and many hours of sitting on hold to get through to them. Our furnace went out in the winter and we live in Minnesota and we had our 3,000 square foot house running on space heaters in the winter for two months before they finally replaced it. It was terrible. As soon as they finished that job, we did our research and found AHS. We haven't made very many claims, but I had a really great experience with them. I'm really happy. I really appreciate having that service and being fairly quick. The website is easy to use and everybody I've talked to has been really thorough, professional and kind. I like that AHS takes the deductible when I make the claim. In the past with our old company, the serviceperson would collect it and I could see that being kind of hard on everybody because we had to write a personal check then to somebody.
Through AHS, our air conditioner was replaced because it was unfixable. We made a call. That was the other thing that just recently got fixed and there was like $1,300 charged beyond that. It was just if they're going to replace it, why don't they replace everything that supports it. Does it have to sit on a new pad, why can't it sit on the old pad or why can't they use the same drain line if it's going in the same spot. My cousin does HVAC and I had him read it closer. He was like, "Well, these are all things that are already there. Yeah, there are costs 'cause you have to do these things and it would be hard to do them yourself and coordinate that." I really was appreciative to get a new machine, but there extra costs.
It would be easier to say upfront that if they have to replace the whole appliance that I have to pay 10% or whatever than being like, "Oh, we're not going to cover these 10 parts and services, but we'll cover these 10, and then you pay the difference." It would almost be better to have a flat percentage. Other than that, I liked that AHS covered a whole home. It was like $200 more a year to go with AHS than the previous company, but it has been so seamless. We had a plumbing issue and they sent somebody out, and it was covered. We paid our deductible and they had somebody scheduled within a day. I like their text communication, and their emails.

I had a claim when there was a noise in the pool motor that Nes' Pool took a look at. They explained everything in detail and gave me all the options. They were absolutely fabulous and one of the best American Home Shield ever had. But I had a service request that Northwind Heating and Air came out for in the first week of April. It was a preseason checkup on the air conditioning units. They came back on April 12th and they found there were two units that were problems. That's a separate charge so I put in a separate charge for them. In one of the units, they said there was difficulty with access and they said they’d get back to me. Then, I got a notification from AHS on the 11th of May that Airtec was now going to take over.
I called Northwind the following morning and talked to Caesar, the supervisor, and they said they didn't have a person who has access to do this. But within a couple of hours, they sent someone out from their company. Since they came out here, I said I was going to call Airtec and cancel their involvement, which Northwind agreed to. That was about in the middle of May and from then until all the way now in July, I waited and I would call them intermittently about the status. They said they're still waiting for parts from AHS.
Finally, this all came to a head when I called in July. They said this had been cancelled all the way in May and there was nothing they can do about it. They said I need to go back to AHS because this is all being closed off. I had to go back to AHS and we started the whole process over again with a different company. This just angered me so much. But AHS was nice enough because there are three units and normally they would charge me $75 each unit to redo this over, but they bundled it into just one additional $75 charge. They really helped me once they became aware of the issue. They've done so many things over the years.

Apparently, there was a circuit board in my AC that had to be replaced three times. But they finally got it fixed. After talking with a few people, we suspected that maybe the boards themselves were just part of a bad batch. From what I gathered, I was only charged for the first visit. The other two visits, the contractor just came out and took care of the problem as best as they could. It seems to be functioning now. I've always been happy with how easy it is to schedule with American Home Shield, get someone to come out here. So far, the problems have been fixed fairly easily.

More Than Plumbing did a great job in fixing our faucets. Back on June 11th, Sears came out for our dishwasher and they were in here for a while. They worked through it. It seemed like it was fixed. But a couple of weeks later, the problem started again. Now, it's really bad. It's molding up the cabinets and warping them. You can't even turn on the sink in the kitchen without water coming out onto the floor, potentially going into the ceiling of the basement downstairs, and even potentially getting under the tiles. So we may have to do some ceramic tile work here in a little bit.
I called up American Home Shield and they said they would get somebody out here as soon as they can. But then the rep said, "You know what? I called Sears and they said it's got an abnormally long hold time. I don't feel like holding, so I left them a voicemail." I asked the rep, "Well, how'd you give them a voicemail if you're on hold?" He told me he would send them an email. I asked him if he could send it to me too. He said, "Well, tell you what, we'll have to try to call later today. We'll do that." So I waited, and then I called the next morning. That was when I got the most amazing runaround that I've ever seen in my life. The lady said, "Well, why don't you call them?" I told her, "Because I'm paying you, I'm going to pay you for me to call them?"
I asked to speak to a manager and then they had to re-verify me and re-verify me again. The rep said, "I'll try to get a manager." So I was stuck on hold and I waited and waited and waited. After about 45 minutes, I realized there was no manager coming. This overall process was about at least three hours. The service was booked for next Wednesday. So I called American Home Shield again and then the lady said, "Here, let me go get a manager." I waited about 15 minutes and my call got transferred back into the main system as if I had not spoken to a customer service person yet. Then I got somebody else on the phone and I said that I wanted the manager. But the rep told me that they need to verify me. I repeated that I need to talk to the manager but they said they need to do the verification. We went around like that for about 10 minutes.
At one point, I was raising my voice and said, "Okay, this is enough. I'm not going to verify it." Then the rep said she needed my address and contract number. I told her that the last two people already had that information. This rep eventually hung up. So I called back in and I spoke to somebody else and they kind of tried to do the same thing and they stuck me on hold. But this time, I left it on hold and I got my other phone and called in by Skype.
Through Skype, it somehow knew who I was and already had this stuff up there. So this was the fifth person that I talked to and I'm sitting there listening and I said, "Look, you're being recorded. You can hear I'm on hold." The hold is now another 30 minutes. I said that I needed to speak to a manager and the rep said, "Well, what's your number that you want me to call back on?" I said, "What are you talking about?" She says, "We can't actually connect managers in like this." So they were just throwing me into hold since they didn't feel like dealing with me and maybe I would go away whenever the wait was too long. The manager could have authorized a second plumber to come out and fix the dishwasher right away if they couldn't get Sears.
For American Home Shield's ability to get things in on normal priority, the experience wasn't bad. When More Than Plumbing came out, American Home Shield even paid for some of the hardware that we would have normally had to pay for. But on the emergency thing like a claim for a hot water heater leak, this house would be in serious yogurt.

However, I didn't really know when I got AHS, that I'm paying the $89 a month and then I have to pay $100 every time I need someone to come out and look at something. So that was a shock. The main benefit of having American Home Shield is saving cost. It cost me $100 for a service and it probably would have cost quite a bit more to replace the garage door if I didn't have the home warranty. The techs who came out and fixed my garage door were excellent. But I am disappointed that American Home Shield stopped covering electronics in the middle of the contract. I have a TV that was zapped by lightning so the home warranty is not helping me there.
I also never got my contract nor have I gotten the link. I asked to be sent whatever it is that I signed online and their rep would be sending me a paper copy. I look forward to getting that and reading that thoroughly. That will tell me more of what I want to know like why American Home Shield changed course on me in the middle of a contract. That's really important to me. Other than that, I'm more than likely to renew my two policies with my home warranty. The reps I spoke to were great.

I had a recent claim for my downstairs air conditioner that wasn't cooling. A part needed to be replaced. The techs had to come back for three days but they came back each time and they were on time.
Having the home warranty is cheaper as far as when you have to make repairs, because with them, it's only $75, so someone can come out. They do the diagnosis. Then everything else is included if they have to buy parts. So, that's the best part. I wasn't coming out of pocket for hundreds and thousands of dollars at a time.

American Home Shield's service has been kind of 50-50. They were good on the oven. The contractor came out pretty quickly. The problem was a panel board and it's the second time the oven has been replaced. It lasted a day and I had to call them back out. We're waiting to see what they decide to do from there. They haven't fixed the problem, but everything was in a timely manner.
I had an AC issue and that didn't work out as well. American Home Shield brought a company out called Fast Response Heating and Cooling. Right from the get-go, the salesman that was here had no interest in repairing the unit, which was what the warranty was for. All he wanted to do was upsell me a whole new unit. I kind of got a little standoffish about that because I wasn't in the market for a $5,000 HVAC. I just wanted my unit repaired. I called American Home Shield numerous times and fought with them. That was the bad experience. They said they just send out contractors. I told them. "It's coming from you, so it's a reflection on you." They didn't like to hear that, but it was the truth.
American Home Shield should have been a little more hands-on when I complained numerous times about Fast Response. I didn't know if it was a staffing issue or covid and I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt because this started four or five months ago. But they never called me to check on me. Also, they were sending me to customer service from another country so there was a language issue and I never could speak to a supervisor. Trying to get this unit repaired went on for weeks. Fast Response would not submit their findings and American Home Shield couldn't proceed until they had a report from Fast Response. I was calling Fast Response and went over to their office, which was empty. It was just a vacant building. It was just all kinds of shadiness.

The second time, the technician put that leak stuff in there. He said that he's required to do that. That is their protocol. So, it cost me Freon and the $75 deductible every single time, and the problem doesn't get fixed. Nonetheless, I'm very satisfied and I've recommended AHS to many people.

I put a request in on June 28th for my freezer that stopped cooling and my icemaker that stopped working. The first time a technician came out, he said that the board was bad. They were gonna order that. Once they put the board in, the compressor could be bad and if that was the case, they have to order another part. When the first part was ordered, it was shipped to Miami. I live in Tampa. It took American Home Shield two weeks to get the part and get the guy back out here. He came out Tuesday the 13th. He was out for the first time on July 1st to diagnose.
I've been calling American Home Shield since the 13th to try and escalate and get my refrigerator fixed. But every call, I'm two hours on the phone with them, and I get nowhere. The combination of American Home Shield and this company is horrible. I've made multiple requests to speak to a manager or a supervisor. I'm told they couldn’t transfer the call, and all they could do is put the request in and have someone call me back.
I'm still waiting for a callback on that and that's been about two weeks now that I've been asking for that. I just want my fridge fixed but I keep getting the runaround. I called this morning and they said that it was being shipped to Hialeah, which is in Miami, then came back on the phone and said, “No. It's not going there.” I don't trust them, and I don't have a whole lot of confidence. I attempted, after the first visit, to get this request switched to another company, and they denied me and would not allow it. But I've put a request on my profile that I never want this company coming back out again.
I've had good experiences with American Home Shield for other things, but this is horrendous. This almost cancels out all the good experiences I've had. Refrigerators are pretty vital things, especially in summer. Over the 4th of July holiday, I had no refrigerator. Thank God I had the money to go buy a cheap one to put in my garage or I'd have nothing. They did refund my money for the request, but the time I've had to take to stay on top of them for this request is ridiculous. It's still not resolved and now they're saying the part’s expected next week. I get to start my week again making calls to try and make sure that this is being followed up on and taken care of.

I've had good experience with American Home Shield ever since I've had it. It made it a very comfortable situation, being a first-time homeowner. It’s definitely worth having. Recently, my AC wasn't cooling because the outside unit wasn't turning on. After the contractor came out and diagnosed it to see what the issue was, they found out that it was an electrical issue causing the unit not to turn on. What they told me was when they came out to do the electrical work, the breaker directly beside the air conditioning unit had gone bad and that the whole right side of the breaker had gone out. They repaired it and it started working again. Now that they got that part fixed, the AC seems to be cooling but not cooling the way that it used to. American Home Shield has assigned for another company to come out and look at it again to see what the issue is now.

It was $80 for the first service call last year. It was another $80 for this service call and I'm paying the premium on top of every month. But the submission of claim process is easy enough ‘cause all I'm doing is saying I need service and paying 85 bucks and they send somebody out.

It just takes American Home Shield a couple of hours or a day or two to get someone assigned to the account. And then, I get a text message that I have to call and make an appointment. Sometimes, I get a call, a message that they've scheduled somebody, and sometimes, I have to call. I'd like for the people to call me because while I was calling the contractor that came out, it was doing a message that the person wasn't available a couple of times. There was no way to leave a message. Recently, the tech came right in, looked over the water cooler, figured out what the problem was, and fixed it. He was in and out in less than half an hour. AHS can be considered affordable. Because sometimes, when I have to pay the 75, I'm not actually sure how much something would have been if I did it myself. But the 75 saves me money if it's something more expensive, or it overcharges. Because I wouldn't know if I checked it myself.

The microwave no longer was heating. The repair people were very professional and they cleaned up after themselves. The service was wonderful. My food gets hot now so the microwave is fixed. There is less worrying when you have a home warranty. When something goes wrong, I don't have to try to figure out who I can call to get the work done. It's right at my fingertips.

I had my AC unit serviced. The guy that came out said that it was very low on Freon or I had a leak. He said it could be the condenser, that fan thing that's outside. I said I have American Home Shield and then I'd give them a call. He said he was going to put some Freon in it and so, he did. It worked really great for three days. But then it was right back to where it was before. By the time that we got American Home Shield and got a guy out, it just wasn't working at all. The American Home Shield guy came out and he was very thorough. He checked everything upstairs, which is where I have the heating and cooling unit, and the one outside, and the thermostat. It's working perfectly now. AHS is very dependable and I would recommend them to anyone.

The fan in the house stopped blowing and we called it in. We were going on vacation the next day so we didn't schedule the service until we came back the next week. The contractor came out when they were supposed to and they worked on it. The tech replaced it and the service was good. It's simple to submit a claim although there were times in the past that I had problems with some of the service people when they came out.
A few years ago, I had one of the worst contractors. I had an LG washer and it had three computers on it. When the guy came out, he said it needed a new computer board. When they ordered the board, another serviceman came out and he said it was the wrong board. He reordered another one and another guy came out and said it was the wrong one. There was more than one computer on it. It went back and forth for about two months. I wound up going over to whoever said and found out how to get a new washer out of it because it had gone on way too long. But this claim is a very good example of a good contractor. American Home Shield is great.
