American Home Shield had a special going on for checking the heater before the winter got here. They contacted Carolina Air Heating and Cooling. They came out and checked that. The guy was very nice. He came in, explained everything to me and put my air filter in. Everything is working good. American Home Shield is very good. It was recommended to me by some guy and I thought it was a good idea. I’m a widow and it reminds me of what I have to do. It also helps with appliances. I just got a dishwasher as well.

I just moved in the beginning of August and I had to use American Home Shield twice already, and they were good both times. I’m very happy with them. It’s so easy to submit a claim. You just go online and submit it. And based off of your plan that you select, you get a charge. It’s either $75 or $100 and then, you pay that when you request the appointment. I’ve always heard from the contractor within the next day. The service people have always been professional and friendly, and have always resolved my issue. On the first time out, they got the repairs done. They knew what they were doing and they were super reliable. AHS saved my homeowner's life. I would recommend them to my friends. If they ask me about it, I'll tell them how great and easy it has been. It's definitely worth the money.

The microwave was not working correctly. The contractor called early and let me know that he was on his way. When he came to the door, I showed him where the microwave was. We both had masks on because of COVID. The contractor examined the microwave and started to work on it. One part was missing and he needed to order it. So I have a follow-up appointment coming up. Overall, I had a good experience. When filing a claim with American Home Shield, you explain a problem on the worksheet on the computer and then submit it.

The contractor that AHS sent out was very nice. Our heat turns on then turns off, and there's clicking. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it to make the noise because it was warm outside and the noise is happening when it's really cold outside. They thought there was something stuck in the air ducts, and then they looked, and there wasn't anything in there. I had to research the situation myself and it seems like there's an issue with the air duct being insulated and maybe some air from outside coming in affecting the air duct expanding and contracting. I feel like I wasted $125 because there was no resolution and we still have the issue. But American Home Shield's customer service has been okay and it was easy and simple to put in the service call.

AHS is nice to have and it's simple to put in a claim with them. We recently had two right about the same time. We had one for a dishwasher and one for our air conditioning. We submitted them on their website two days apart and the techs who came out were professional and nice. Everything's fixed now.

We are very pleased with American Home Shield. We made a phone call when we submitted the claim and told them what the problem was. They contacted Dewpoint and then, Dewpoint contacted us. The technician came and he was great. He repaired the air conditioning unit. We don’t know if it has a pinhole leak or it was just low, and we won’t know until time passes.

I have had awful service with this company. Each service call has needed additional authorizations. Each time I am left waiting for weeks with no calls from the vendor or AHS. Next thing I know I am receiving a letter that my service call has been closed and my appliances can not be fixed because of pre-existing conditions. If something breaks because it's old and I am paying for a service I expect it to be fixed. I would not recommend this company. Find a different home warranty company that will actually fix your appliances.

Our home has a tank AND a tankless water heater. The tank heater failed and was replaced. The tankless fails to heat to more than barely warmed water and AHS says "it still works so no coverage". Tankless was also installed w/o means to descale it and again, AHS says "not improperly installed" so, NO coverage. AHS won't pay for anything, not even descaling because "we don't cover maintenance" SO, we are, in a nutshell, left to run the unit improperly until it fails before AHS will cover anything.

The contractor they sent out to us, while polite, told us they didn't have any idea how to resolve the issue and to ask AHS for a 2nd opinion from another plumbing company that WE will have to pay for if they aren't able to figure it out either. Seems like AHS would rather waste $, than save it. Very disappointed in AHS as well as Whitney Plumbing & Heating.

I spent 6 months in the hospital, and they even asked me why I didn't call them about the warranty I didn't know I had on a house I no longer owned.... from ICU? WHAT?!?! I started receiving calls in September. Asked them each time to cancel and they did not. I have spent probably 5 hours in the phone with them trying to cancel and it's impossible. Finally, I got it canceled and the representative said I owed 65.00. I was like fine send me the bill.... The bill arrives and it's almost 200.00. PLEASE USE ANYONE but AHS! This has been a nightmare. Their customer service does not care and is extremely inept.

I have a worst experience with this AHS company..I am a customer for 6 yrs..still they dont care.. I have raised a service request for faucet on 9/3/2020. Paid service fee for $100. They assigned a vendor. He came on 9/5 and said he have to order the parts. Didn't show up for next 2 weeks and called him. No response. Called AHS. They said will assign them back, vendor never lifts the call. Same person came back on 10/2/2020 without any parts. Again I asked what happen. AHS never sent us parts. I called AHS. They said will escalate this matter. Supervisor will call. I waited for 3 days. No call. Called them again. No response. Same story again 10/14/2020. I will never recommend this warranty company to friend and family. Please dont waste your money too..

I've had American Home Shield for at least 25 years now. When we first bought our place, our Realtor recommended them and I thank my lucky stars that this company was introduced to me all those years ago. Their costs were reasonable too. I took the recommendation and shortly thereafter, I became a widow. Before that, I had a handy person who can fix anything then suddenly, I’m a widow and I can’t fix everything.

American Home Shield has certainly helped me out many times. I had somebody I could call that will help me out, so I always recommend them to anybody who listened to me. Over the 25 years. I've had several experiences, and I hadn’t run into a bad vendor yet. One time, my toilet would run all the time and the tank wouldn't fill and then close off. I thought something rotted out. I called American Home Shield, and they told me approximately when someone would be out. The contractor that came was very cordial and the job didn't take him very long at all. I was really grateful to have my toilet working again. All in all, American Home Shield is a great company. I've called them many times and I would still use them again.

We had an issue where the pool just stopped pumping and there was no electricity at all. We called AHS, and someone came out and fixed it quickly. They were actually familiar with the property because they had been maintaining the pool for many years by the previous owner, so it worked out really well. The only bad part I've had with AHS is that there are a lot of things not covered that should be covered or that would make sense to be covered. I've called in three claims and two of them were not covered. One was a garage door opener, which is not included, which I had no idea. And then the other was the dishwasher door.

Wearing a mask is the number one thing right now and it is required in our home, and no one has a problem coming in with a mask. American Home Shield does an awesome job. It's easy to submit a claim to Home Shield except you have to wait a long time before you could talk to somebody. I have waited for about an hour. The last time I talked with someone, though, it was only about 20 minutes. It was on a Sunday. BC Plumbing came out because the air conditioning people, Trinity Air, came out, and water was leaking through my kitchen ceiling. It was coming from the air conditioner. And when the air conditioning people came out, they said that the pipe was clogged. I had to go through another channel to get a plumber out. The air conditioning people cleaned as much as they could and they said that was beyond what they could do, so I needed to get a plumber. It was on a weekend, so I had to wait until Monday to have a plumber come out. That was not good because I had to turn my air conditioner off so the leak would stop.

It was winter and I had problems with the heating system, so Home Shield sent Myers out. The tech that they sent out, went out, checked the box outside and said it was not working. I said to him, “I don’t believe it. Come and show me what you did.” Went out, attached his tool to it, and it was working. He told me, “You need a whole new system. But American Shield is hard to deal with, and Myers too. Here’s my phone number. Call me directly,” his cell phone number, “and I can get you one cheaper.” At that point, I told him to leave my house.

I have told American Home Shield every time, “Don’t send them to me,” and I told them why. And this time, they tried to send Myers Plumber out, and I refused to have them come. They sent the other plumber out. I would never have Myers in my house again. I wouldn’t trust them. I’ve talked with other people who say the same thing about them that they’re not gonna do it. They’re not reputable people.

My contract came with the house and I would continue with Home Shield, but I see some things that are not included in my contract that I need to talk to them about including, like the stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher. They were not included three times. But I had problems with them at the beginning when the problem was not completed. A couple of times I had that, and an agent on the line who wanted to charge me the $75 again. I said, “I’m not paying. It’s not completed. You just need to send somebody else out here.” So, we went through that. And I had my contractor who was doing work on the house talk with them. That wasn't very pleasant. It was very upsetting to me to go through that.

In less than 24 hours you get a call from somebody who's going to come and repair whatever you need to repair. You pay your $100 per call, and they have to repair whatever it is. The people that American Home Shield hire to do the work are really good. Recently, I had an air conditioner that was broken. I called American Home Shield and my unit got repaired. What they should improve on is about the Freon. You have to pay for it, and that's one thing I didn't understand. As soon as the technician turned on the unit, he knew what it was. He double-checked it. He was probably done in 20 minutes. In the middle of COVID, he came in wearing his mask and stayed appropriately distanced. He was great. I love American Home Shield. They do their best to vet the people they work with. For the most part, they've gotten their contractors great. The online reporting of an issue is fantastic. It's a lot faster than trying to call and talk to somebody.

Unfortunately, I’ve used them way more than I would really like to have to say that I have, and my premiums have not made up for the amount that they’ve spent on me. But their service is almost always perfect. The only time it hasn’t, it has been understandable. Like we had an air conditioner go down in 98-degree heat. Everybody would wanted service but you’re just not going to get it quickly. And it wasn’t like it would be better if I had called somebody other than who AHS had said. But once it was done, it was great.

I submitted a claim with AHS because my garbage disposal would not do what it was supposed to do. I have a 80-20 type split sink. The 80 side wouldn't drain out. The 20 side wouldn't drain out. I got a plunger and was able to clear the backup. From looking at the base of my sink area, I found that there was a leak coming from the garbage disposal.

When the plumber came out, he found the same thing, that there was a leak with the garbage disposal, and replaced it. Now, everything is good. The technician was ahead of our scheduled time frame, very professional and knowledgeable about his plumbing job. He was able to determine my issue very quickly and therefore he was in and out of my house very quickly, which I appreciated that.

I've been in this house for 11 years and the builder started out with American Home Shield. Somewhere in there after whatever that time frame was after that expired, I thought to myself, “I think I'm a little short on the coverage of the house. I should check-in and see what I could possibly do to continue the coverage.” I did that and to my surprise, I really liked the idea that it didn't cost me much to get back that cover. I really can't say enough about how great the coverage has been. I’m not one to call in a claim every two seconds, but the issues that I have had, they have been Johnny-on-the-spot. For the monthly payment that I make, this is also excellent.

The blower on the outside part of the AC went bad. Doing the claim online is the easy part. Home Shield then sends an email that they've given you a company that you would contact. But actually, the company will contact you and then they set the service up. A couple months ago, I didn't know a fuse blew in my upstairs air conditioning unit. AHS sent the same folks out, and they did the work in 10 minutes. So two different air conditioners, same company responded, and it was excellent on both. With the minimal amount of monthly payments, you're crazy if you don't get covered. I just bought this house, and it's not new. I was worried about things breaking down, and I'm glad I got the warranty and reupped.

I had problems with my oven and Home Shield knew how to find a person to come fix it. I also had problems with an air conditioner. The people that installed our air conditioner participate with Home Shield and Home Shield let them come out and service it, which I like because they know the unit. Then, we had Bast Heating & Cooling come out to do our clean and check. The tech found out a problem and he explained to me what I needed to do to have him come back out and fix it. Also, he told me what I can do to maintain the furnaces throughout the year. He was nice and professional.

I had to wait for maybe 10 minutes on the phone because they were busy and they just didn’t have a representative open at the time. As soon as I spoke to someone and gave her my contract number, everything was fine. The service contractor came in, looked at it and told me what was wrong. He was here for maybe an hour and fixed it. I wish American Home Shield costs less. But I know how things are. It's simple and easy. Everything's very convenient and so far, they've lived up to their work.

The plumber did the work pretty fast and did a good job. Everything still works. Home Shield does a good job of scheduling people. I tell everybody about American Home Shield. I love it and I've always had wonderful experiences. Everybody on their staff is friendly. The only thing that I don't like about it is that you can only change your contract at a certain time of the year. I think that I should be able to do that at any time and AHS could just modify my contract and make any type of payment adjustments that might need to be made. But I really would not own a home without having American Home Shield. I think it's silly to not have a home warranty and I don't understand why somebody would not have one. It's brilliant and it's definitely a way to save money, I have less worry and concern, simply because I know that if something breaks on my coverage, then all I have to do is pay my deductible. It's kind of that peace of mind. I believe that as a homeowner that's not a millionaire, I think that I need that.

Chris came for the dishwasher. He diagnosed it and said, “I'll call you this afternoon and give you an update.” And he did. Chris was very communicative. He told me the steps that would happen and came within a reasonable amount of time. Within a day or two. He was really good, and I will always get Chris if I can. Before the dishwasher, I put in a claim for a washer. The claim guy and his company, C & R, were not very professional or didn't know what they were doing. There was zero communication. And they said, “We'd be in there 7 to 10 days.” That isn't going to work. How do you chat online? You don't? When you go to American Home Shield's website to chat with somebody, that doesn't exist anymore. So then you have to call in and wait for an hour to two to get somebody online.

The washer needed to be replaced eventually after three to four weeks of everybody trying to chase parts because of COVID. After that, you have to call the purchasing people which is a separate number. So how do you communicate with them? Be on hold for one to two hours. On certain occasions, the people are foreigners and I can't talk to them because I don't understand what they're saying. The phone thing is awful. But on the other hand, I will continue to use American Home Shield. They've replaced and repaired things that they said they would do. And when Chris is here, it's excellent. I put in my recommendation that if I have an appliance issue, I want Chris's Appliances. I have recommended him to friends. The main number one drain line that was draining down by the actual outside AC unit had clogged up with outside debris, dirt, and grass clippings from when I cut the grass. So, the secondary, drain pipe, which is upstairs up under the actual AC unit, kicked in and started draining the condensation that was coming off of the unit versus it being drained down on the ground. It was draining from up top on the third floor. That's what the tech from AAction Air Conditioning explained to me after I gave him a brief synopsis of what the symptoms and stuff were.

He did his regular maintenance on the unit and put a new filter in then he came back the second day to check the pressures to make sure those were running correctly. Everything went well. American Home Shield has been great over the years. I used them at my old house, which I turned into a rental property, and they took care of some things over there for me, dealing with an AC that the tenant had torn out. Once I sold that rental property, I transferred the policy over to the house that I'm in now.

The problem is I had called him because when I flush my toilet, I have to take the lid off because the handle is too long. He never showed back up. When he did, I had a floater in my toilet and he changed everything out. That made the handle on the knot from where you flush it too long.

I'm not happy with the people who came out on the appliances. I've not heard anything back from them yet concerning my oven. They were supposed to have notified me last week about it but they didn't. I got an email saying that they ended up paying the part. I talked to American Home Shield last week about it and what they told me was they were having a hard time getting the part and that as soon as they get the part, they would let me know. My big thing is I have a very old stove. They would come off better replacing that stove than keep trying to find those parts. There are things that need to be redone in my home but they tell me they only work on the thing from inside the house not the outside. There are a couple of the electrical issues that we put in for our outside but the wiring is inside the house. I'm not happy with some of the things that they say that they will do.

The service company contacts you, sets up a time for them to come out and look at the repair then they come out. I was trying to fix my toilet. When I twisted it up to turn off the water, it started dripping. All the plumber did was tighten the screw with the hand. It was very basic and I was like, “Crap, 110 bucks for that.” But it saved me from a bigger issue. American Home Shield is easy to use. If someone can come before the scheduled time, they let you know. I've had to use them only twice so far, and it has worked out. I was kind of hesitant in the beginning because the policy is expensive, like annually, you're spending about $700 to $800. But once you do need them, they're able to get the right people out to your house and get the problem fixed. You do find the worth of it. And I like how once you use the policy, they don't increase your monthly fees like an insurance policy would do if you file a claim.

Recently, though, when you call American Home Shield, I'm not able to speak with a representative. It was an automated system and it was just a basic direct thing. If someone has multiple issues, you can't highlight that. It wasn't like this before.

I didn't hear for a couple of weeks and when I finally got ahold of him, he said that the problem was American Home Shield. He said, “Just plug it into this different one. I didn't know that two heated things couldn't be in the same area. He picked up the oven and he said it is 16 volts. He also said, “That's really the maximum for that electrical outlet. My air went out last month, and it was a horrible experience from Home Shield not calling the person they needed to call. I called on the 11th and I approved and gave authorization that they could go ahead and fix my air. I let American Home Shield know, and they put me on hold and called somebody. They told me the work would be done and to expect it in 5 to 10 days, but no one got out here. It was already in the works of them ordering and Home Shield ordered it on time, but they didn't let Cote's know that they'd be doing the work. I was on the phone, and they talked to the front desk. What they needed to do was call the right department in Cote's to let them know that they can go forward with fixing the issue.

I'm dissatisfied because maybe their representative should know what department to give that authorization to. I thought that the process was in the works, and it wasn't. I didn't get the issue fixed until the 20 something. I'm very upset about that. I'm asthmatic, I had no air and I had to suffer. A lady from Cote's called and asked if I was still going forward with getting my air fixed. I said, "Ma'am, they haven't called me." The lady went ahead and reported that. She then called back and said, "Ma'am, I got your authorization. So it will go forward." I had to call the contractor out twice because I couldn't feel any air, but I can't complain. They both have replaced it with a compressor. Now, Home Shield is ordering it.

The guy was great. He was very professional and very informative. The one hiccup was the hours weren’t conducive to me making it there being that I get off work at 5:00 and I'll come from Atlanta. They stopped doing business by 6:00 or so so I had to leave early to go. The guy informed me of a couple of things I wasn't quite aware of. I brought him out for a garbage disposal and he said if the garbage disposal jambs or breaks down because of food in there, then that wouldn't be covered. I was confused because I was thinking to myself that’s what the garbage disposal is for. He had to correct me and tell me no. I would need to get a little bit more clarification.

I don't feel too good about American Home Shield. I get that things are gonna break down but if I don't really know what is gonna cause the breakdown, if there's something like a user error and it won't be covered in a home warranty, that would really suck. American Home Shield could be beneficial to homeowners with older homes. It's for peace of mind. But if I had a newer home, I probably wouldn't get a home warranty at all.

That refrigerator was in my garage. If that was something that the contractor couldn't fix, AHS should've not allowed serviceman to touch it. He wasn't supposed to touch but he did in order to get the payment. So I paid for it but they didn't fix it. AHS should give me my money back, but they said that it was a service call. But a service call, to my understanding in the contract, was a completed work and that work was incomplete. I have complained about it. I've been waiting for almost two weeks and AHS has never responded back to the purchase that I've paid the money to fix my refrigerator.

I have an ongoing problem with them. My GE Monogram went out in August, and I have been on the phone with GE and American Home Shield on an almost daily basis. Even today, I'm waiting for either GE or American Home Shield to call me back because they cannot get the parts, but they won't pay me out so I could buy a new refrigerator. And they keep pushing the date back, if they can get the part. First it was September 11, then October 5th, then the 28th, and then last week it’s November 30th.

The Monogram rep said, “Just get any refrigerator. I don't know if we're going to get it. It's been too long.” But American Home Shield said that the technician has to contact the claims department. When American Home Shield calls GE, in the three or four times that they've tried, they said they've gotten a voicemail and that they will get back to me within a day or two, which of course they haven't. Again today, the same thing. All numbers that American Home Shield have lead to the same place. Same recording, same thing. The people on the phone are in the Philippines and you could hardly understand them. So does GE too.

The dryer wasn’t drying clothes. We called American Home Shield, and then they get me in touch with Pro Service. The guy came out and he was very polite. He pulled the thing out, looked at it, and in the panel, it was the timer. It was something in the dials. He said he needed to get the parts, and as soon as he could get those, he’d give me a call, and then he left. A few days later, he called and said he was on his way, and he had the parts. He was here about a little over an hour. He took the whole machine apart and did what he had to do, put the part in, and got it working. He was good. I've had American Home Shield for years and it's well worth it.

It's always good to have a home warranty. You never know when things will break down or whatnot. When I was looking for warranties, AHS came up and I looked at what they're offered. I decided to give them a try and so far, it's been good. Recently, I had an electrical issue and initially, with the COVID, it took a while before I got a contact from the vendor, Ideal Services. It took a few days instead of 24 hours. But when they came out, they observed social distancing and they were great. They were professional, answered every question I had, and completed the work in a timely manner.

A contractor came for the HVAC up in the attic, and it was great. He was on time, very thoughtful, wore his mask and little booties, and he was very helpful. He answered all my questions and we resolved the problem. So, that was good. There was a claim where I needed something to be replaced, and getting that on board with money took quite a few months. The service is good, though. The service people are great. There were a lot of problems getting the microwave but we finally got it.

In order to get somebody on the phone, because certain things could not be done online, it was almost a two-hour wait every time. That's pretty intense. But overall, my experience has been satisfactory and I would recommend them. I'm not gonna go to another place. I like American Home Shield. I just hope that once we get through the pandemic, we'll have better service as far as contacting the people that you need to get in contact with.

My heater goes out every other year. One day, the water was not cold but it was not hot. So, I knew that it was time for me to replace that every year and a half. I called PG&E to come out to look at the heater and then, the guy told me that I need to call a contractor because the heater was coming on too slow. He then went out there to his truck. He didn’t even leave yet. He was sitting in front of my house.

My aunt told me to go through American Home Shield when I wanted a contractor to come out. I went and called American Shield and the guy from Delta HVAC came out, looked at the heater and said that there wasn’t anything wrong with it. He said that the heater was supposed to do that. It’s sensor heat. So, I just had him go ahead and check it anyway because it's about the start of the wintertime. He checked it and I told him that it was okay because I paid my $75 already. The heater started kicking when the PG&E guy was out there in his truck so I was planning to call them and tell them not to send the guy back.

I haven't had any problem with AHS at all. They came out and did their job. I love it. I told the girl I work with to get them because they cover you for everything. My stove went out. The thing in the stove that bakes wasn’t heating up. The blower was working but the other one didn’t. So, I called my neighbor over and she told me to get rid of it. But my aunt told me to call AHS and see if they could fix it. The contractor told me that what I could do was go half and half to get another stove. But I wasn’t gonna buy another stove. He told me about a part and I told him that I would wait till the stove goes out all the way. So, he's supposed to come back Monday to put the new part in.

When things go down in your house, at the end of the day, you're hoping and praying that vendors have the parts on the truck when they come out. Sears couldn't fix my dryer and they didn't have the part the first time they came out. They ordered a couple of parts and my dryer was down for almost a month or so. I was frustrated. They came back with the second part and it didn't work again. Sears called AHS and told them that they couldn't fix it and that it was not repairable. Home Shield called and told me that they were gonna send another vendor out. When I called that vendor, it was gonna be another week and a half. So, that'll make a month and two weeks. I called AHS back and told them that they got to get me somebody within a better timeframe because we are paying money to go to the dryer.

That's how Ashley Appliances came in. When I described the problem to their guy on the phone before he came out, he said, “I think I can get that working. That doesn't sound right.” When he came out, he said, “Listen, I'm gonna diagnose this, and before I leave today, you’ll be working.” He found and zeroed down to the part and the part that was defective. He told me that the guy from Sears should have checked that thermostat. He found that the defective part that he brought in was the element. He left here to go buy that other little part that needed to get me started, so I wouldn’t have another two weeks. He was willing to do that even though he was about 35 miles away. That guy got me going that day when he came in and even gonna make sure when he left that things are going to work. The guy was professional and he did a great job. I just felt that, at that point, this was the guy that AHS needed to be having that day on the streets -- the kind of guy that was going to try to make sure that they run the problem from A to Z. I want him to come back and work on my appliances.

The smartest thing a homeowner can do is to get a home warranty. Having one is fantastic and American Home Shield specifically has been a great choice so far. We only had it for a short time and had to take advantage of it twice already. For the garage door, the guy was able to get in and out within 20 minutes. He was very fast, responsive, polite, fixed the issue right away, and went on with his day. Everything was perfect.

The only thing that I had disappointment in was I had two separate claims, one was for the garage door or electrical and one was for plumbing. When I originally signed on with American Home Shield, they had said if I had more than one claim happen at one time, I only had to pay $100. But when I called, they told me that I had to pay two separate fees because it's in two different fields. That's not how it came across to me when I signed on. I had to pay $200 for only one service call. If that's the case, it's fine. But at the beginning, when people are signing on, they should really make that clear that if you have two different issues at the same time, it is $100 per the trade, not per the call. The second time we took advantage of it, it ended up not being an issue. That kinda was a bummer 'cause we paid $100 just to have a person come out and tell us that it was fine.

Our recent claim experience with AHS was great. This was for my rental property. The contractors that came pulled the wax ring under a seeping toilet and then replaced a kitchen sink faucet. They did it in record time. The gentleman that was out there worked with a sense of urgency and did a really great job. That guy called. I got a status and he said it was done. I was very pleased with that. He was great, congenial and professional. He had his PPE on, mask and gloves. I would highly recommend him.

When their customer, in this case, my tenants, were absolutely thrilled and relieved that the job was done right the first time, and the person was courteous, on time and completely professional, I don’t think I can ask for more than that, especially if they work with a level of urgency. That’s what I look for in my previous life as an executive with AT&T. I looked for people to either meet or exceed them and allowed me to continue my business relationship with them. So that's why I have a relationship with American Home Shield because they get the job done.

Updated on 10/26/2020: I have had American Home Shield on two properties for over 2 years. I filed a service request in June for a dryer and an ice maker. After 4+ months and 3 service companies (two of which admitted they had no experience with one or both of the appliances) this is where I am. STAY AWAY from this company!!!

American Home Shield offered me a "cash in lieu" of repair on Friday (the same day they had a "technician" here - who showed up in a beat up car with NO tools whatsoever and never actually looked at any of the actual internal parts). Today, Monday, they rescinded that offer and said the "technician" said the correct repair for both (I have 2) was to replace the control board. I am not sure how their technician could even diagnose this issue as they never even looked at either of the control boards - and in fact, I had to show them how to get the error code from the dryer (which lists the problem as something completely different). American Home Shield is a total fraud and does not stand behind what they sell. AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!

Original Review: Requested service on 6/14/2020 for a dryer and a stand alone ice maker. After two separate companies out, neither was able to fix either problem. Second company said they could not fix the dryer because they could not get the "service codes" due to the make of dryer. Many calls to customer service and still no help. Called on 10/9/2020 and was told that they would have to replace both if they could not fix them. Called later in the day and told they contacted the 2nd service company and the 2nd company would be calling with in 48 hours to schedule the repair. Today, 10/13/2020, I still have had no call from the 2nd service company. Called AHS customer service and they offered no help, other than to submit a form and request the 2nd company come back. Totally unhelpful, no customer service and no way to reach any decision maker or supervisor.

We purchased the replacement combo plan. It says in the marketing material that they will replace appliances and HVAC (furnace, A/C) if they can't find parts for a failed unit. We purchased a Kitchen Aid dishwasher in 2006 for $750. It's 2 racks, 5 cycles, heated drying. Nothing special. They offered us $570 in cash or voucher (essentially a gift card). Their contract is inconsistent in how they talk about "replacement". In ITem 4 of their contract they say they are "responsible for installing replacement equipment and parts of similar features, capacity and efficiency". There are then some weasel words "but not for matching dimensions, brand or color". Well if it's built-in, I don't think the dimension thing makes any sense, nor color since most appliances match a kitchen decor. I won't bother to comment on brand.

The next sentence is also very interesting since they don't define one of the key terms: "AHS is not responsible for matching any feature of an existing item that does not contribute to the primary function of that item". It also says their cash/gift-card offer is "based on what AHS would expect to pay (which is substantially less than retail cost) for parts and labor for covered items less the incurred cost of the contractor's diagnosis." So this gets into how they only offer GE/Whirlpool since that is from whom they can get bulk pricing and have them ready in some warehouse somewhere. Oh wait, in this case they don't have one available, but even though it is probably a discontinued model, they are using it as the wholesale cost basis from which to make me an offer. Does that make any sense?

If you go to any retail outlet, there are literally only one dishwasher available for this amount and it's so bare bones from a no name manufacturer that most people would be afraid to buy it. I expected like for like and simplicity. I bought a $750 Kitchenaid and I'd be happy with a $750 Kitchenaid now, which after inflation is probably a lower tier model. This is not how these work. You pay $535 per year (you can pay monthy, but this is less expensive), then you pay $125 for the diagnosis visit.

So let's say the $535 has only $50 or so to be applied for the dishwasher, but add the $125 service visit charge, the $200 more I have to pay for a reasonable replacement, $150 for delivery and installation and maybe $20 for haul-away of the old one and you are up to $495 out of pocket. If something else needs repair it's another $125. If something else dies, it's $125 to find out, but they won't pay for replacement. I'm sorry, this whole industry seemed like a Ponzi scheme, or a pay ahead plan. from now on I think I'm just going to buy retailer extended warranties after I buy replacements out of pocket and not muck around with these kind of misleading advertisers.

I got divorced, I didn't have a lot of money, and I knew my appliances were aging. I got Choice Home Warranty. I had them for a couple of years and they made every excuse not to pay me for anything and get any kind of work done. On the back end, sometimes they say, "We'll give you $300 here to shut you up. And you need work, you can get it fixed yourself." One time, I called CHW out and they wouldn't fix my air conditioner. I had somebody else come out, and then it broke again. My air conditioner is 14 to 15 years old and they said because somebody else worked on it, they were not gonna fix it. I then went to Liberty Home. I called them one time about something and they said, "We can't do that." I told them to forget it, that they were done and I got rid of them within a month.

I went on Consumer Reports and I read that they were saying Choice Home Warranty's great. They're not. Somehow or another, I got American Home Shield's name and number. I thought at first it was Liberty Home, but it wasn't. I also talked to somebody else I used to work with, and he had American Home Shield. He told me how great they were, so I said, "That is worth me paying the money every month just in case something breaks." They tell people to call or go online for claims then they dispatch the contractors and the contractors give them a time. I called and told them my freezer was cold, but it wasn't freezing. They said they would call Appliance Plus and then they let me know when the contractor was coming, which was in 24 to 48 hours.

The guy then came in, did his work, and fixed the unit. He was neat, he had the mask on and he cleaned up too. He was a very professional man and he was excellent. My side-by-side refrigerator is 15 years old and I commend American Home Shield because to go out and buy a new refrigerator could cost me anywhere from $800 to $1,000 or more. They came out four times to fix my refrigerator freezer and everything works perfectly now. It's like it's brand-new and it's all 'cause the man is doing his job and knowing his business. When you make a claim online, that goes relatively quickly and American Home Shield gets ahold of you. I had my air conditioner problem and they took care of that. For my microwave, they called and said they got somebody out there. There was gonna be a replacement and they told me how much they are gonna pay me. When I initially submitted the paperwork, they told me it would be two weeks and they would have a check for me. I read the email and it specifically said that was if it was improperly filled out. They would let me know within 21 business days if I did right. I find that a little silly. That's the only frustration. Usually, the wait time is half an hour when you call. For the follow-ups on the microwave, it was a little difficult and a little frustrating because they don't respond to the email. I sent all the stuff in but I don't know if I did it right.

The first guys that came for the air conditioner took a while to get everything going. They were out in Whiteville and it took almost three and a half weeks for them to get out there. They checked the unit, had to order parts then had to schedule. It turned out that the compressor on the air conditioner went bad. It was one of those that American Home Shield got and they only warranty it for 90 days. Unfortunately, mine was already 120 days.

That's my complaint. I had to repay for all the refrigerant that was in there. American Home Shield doesn't cover that even though their part went bad the second time. That's disconcerting. I had to pay $2,000 because a part was defective. I understand paying 1,000 for that. But when their part failed because they used a rebuilt part, a six-month warranty would've been preferable. I got the work done in February and it went bad in July.

If you buy a part from any of the other air conditioning places, they give you a year's warranty on it. American Home Shield's warranty sucks on that and is a little deficient. Otherwise, there were no problems. The other guy that came out was from Montgomery, out of Myrtle Beach. They were aces and they unequivocally worked with me. I was at work and the guy said he was free and asked if he could come to my place. I agreed and asked if he needed anything. He didn't. He went to my home and nobody was there. He checked the air conditioner and said I needed a new compressor. He would work on it. Within a week, he called me back and said he was ready to come out. That was beautiful. He came out again and I told him I was at work. He said, "I'll start and when you get home, we'll settle up." He was wonderful.

But it's a little disconcerting how American Home Shield operates. There's no way to contact them. They only do phone calls and I can't email them. If I have a problem or a question, they should send an email and say they would get back to me within 48 hours, which is the case in most places. The second thing is they should have a better warranty on their parts because they are using refurbished parts for obvious money-saving reasons. Another thing is they don't have to replace the whole thing. They could give you rates and any additional costs that you might incur. I wish I could also have an email in 48 hours or live chat for the status of my claim. They could text them too. You call somebody and it says they're backlogged and it's gonna take up to 30 to 40 minutes. A lot of people don't have that much time to sit on there for that.

We had some people come out to fix the refrigerator but the issue still is not resolved. The ice maker doesn't work. We have a water filter that's installed in the sink so we had a pipe running and connected to the refrigerator. Water wasn't working as far as coming out of the refrigerator so they've gotten that part to work. The problem is it's not cooling. The water is at room temperature. They've come out twice but still there is no ice and the water is still at room temperature. My wife filed the claim a month and a half ago.

They've been here when they said they were gonna be here. The instructions they gave my wife is 24 to 48 hours from the day that they were here for the ice maker and the water would start cooling. It's been two weeks now. The problem is there's no feedback. Is it an issue that's fixable or is it not? We have no idea. I understand how this stuff works. I'm in the insurance business although it's a little different in the warranty business. But once American Home Shield sends out a third party company, it's really out of their hands at that point. Every time my wife has called, they've been responsive. But they could follow through and see it through to make sure it's done. According to them, it's probably done because they think it's fixed, but it really isn't.

My house is a little bit older and whenever some components start to go out, they can be expensive. I wanted to make sure I was covered in case of anything breaking, which was why I got the service from American Home Shield. I had Oaks Heating and Air check the heater. It was a preventative thing. I got an email and I clicked on it, and it took me to the AHS website. They had a special where you call them and they send somebody out to look through everything and make sure you don't have carbon monoxide and all that good or bad stuff. They said they would send me a text that the contractor would be in touch with me soon. I got an email too. The technician got ahold of me quickly and scheduled the appointment. He was a nice guy, and he followed everything and showed up on time.

The people on the phone are always very helpful when I submit claims with AHS. But we've been given and told different things by a couple of different people and that was a little frustrating. But all in all, the job got done and I was happy. I had a claim when our water heater was not working properly. In the beginning, I wasn't overly impressed with Plymwr Plumbing. They were supposed to be here between 1:00 and 5:00. I waited all day and got a text message at about 8:30 at night saying that the guy would be here at 9 o'clock. I instantly grabbed my phone and called. The guy sounded like he had been drinking and I told him he was not coming into my house at that time of the night. They ended up sending out somebody else and we had everything taken care of. The guy that came out and did the job was amazing. He got the thing replaced and my place was spotless when he left. He swept everything out and cleaned everything up.

My experience with the contractor was absolutely wonderful. He did everything he said he was going to do. He followed through and was great with responding. My experience with American Home Shield was not so great though. I had to wait more than two weeks to get the part for my air conditioner. I was without AC for that amount of time in a 100-degree weather. It took me about nine days to even get an approval to purchase a portable AC unit so that I could have some sort of cooling device in the home. There was no solution. They had told me that they were going to expedite the order so that we could cool the home and have AC for my children, for our home, but they did not.

It was a rather unpleasant experience from American Home Shield. I've only had them since May and I have started looking for a different home warranty company for this reason. I don't think that it should have taken that long to receive a unit. Also, the unit that they installed was not of the same caliber that I had. My unit was a better model and a better brand.

The claim submission process is fine because we can do it online. We got service within a couple days of filing. It's getting the dishwasher replaced that seems to be the problem. Instead of there being an option to select an appliance on our account online, I don't understand why we have to call to get it if we need a new appliance because it's expensive to fix. I waited almost two hours last week to speak with someone and she was supposed to call me back and she never did, which is why I'm calling again today. I noticed that when I called about payment or claim questions, the system asks if we could leave our phone number for AHS to call us back. I wish they did that for this appliance thing so that I'm not waiting on the phone for over two hours.

We're also experiencing a problem in the payment process. We had submitted our credit card information and it shows that there was a transaction, but then it came back as not completed for some reason. As far as AHS being able to contact a contractor to fix our appliance, that is awesome. The pain in the process and replacing appliances is the biggest headache right now.

The most recent claim I had with AHS was about my air conditioning unit that wasn't running cold air. They sent a technician out here and the tech said that it's my fault and it's not covered, instead of going into details. Then, AHS sent another technician to verify that and the second technician said the same thing so they're not covering the claim. The air conditioner is 20 years old and it's been by a sprinkler for 20 years. The coil got water on it from the sprinkler, eventually rusted, and let the Freon out, which caused the condenser to malfunction. It has worked for 20 years. But they said that it's my fault. Other than AHS not covering it, their service was excellent. They were very prompt and they were very professional about it.

When I placed service for different categories, I couldn't do it at the same time when I had the people that came out for the water heater. I haven't pursued the plumbing issue yet because the fee is $100 every time I need service done. I didn’t know the service was so high just to come out. You’re paying every month then you got to pay for service charge. $100 is a lot when you’re based on one check per month. I paid $200 over two weeks ago for one thing for another category because I wasn’t reading the brochure correctly.

This is my first time using American Home Shield. I was referred by someone and when she first found American Home Shield a couple years ago, her service charge was $75 that’s why I went with them. But when I needed service, I was told it’s $100 every time they come out for different things. That kinda blew my mind. I may invest with another company to check things out going forward but right now, I will remain with American Home Shield. The technicians for the water heater and for the oven were both very good. But when I had the technician come out and service my oven, it took a week and several days because they had to come back and take pictures of it.

He was telling me that the problem was not the washing machine, that it was a plumbing back-up. It was fine, but he was short and I don't like people to be short with me. Some men do that because they know everything when they come out and try to fix your stuff, rather than listening to what you think, even if they are right. It’s irritating. It was a stark difference with the plumber guy who listened. He explained the process, fixed the problem and had a good disposition about it. He wore a face mask, and he was fast and efficient. About five days later or so, it was not cooling again. I checked some of the filters and decided to go outside to see if maybe something was going on with the compressor outside which was the work that they did. It looked like one of the blades of the fan wasn't spinning so I called AHS to reopen the original claim. Somebody else came out and replaced the fan and a capacitor. Now, the AC unit is cooling. I was happy with the contractor. When they fixed it the first time, I didn't think that there was a problem with it. They seemed knowledgeable.

My problem wasn't with the contractor, it was more with AHS. The contractors came out to assess what the damage was or what was needed to be fixed. They sent a report to AHS but AHS never called me back or let me know what the status of it was. I had to ask the contractors what was going on. They told me I needed to talk to AHS. When I called them, the representative said that my claim was rejected and I was upset. Why do I even have a warranty? I also couldn't understand that representative either. Her English was a little broken and there was definitely some difficulty understanding each other. When I called back the second time, that representative was good and I would have recommended that person. He was the one that said that the claim is mostly covered with AHS and that I was responsible for $550 which was not great.

When he first got here, I asked him to put on a mask, which he did without any problem. I found him to be perfectly capable and he did exactly what was supposed to be done, didn’t ask for any other money because they said that it was all paid for through my $75, it's like a deductible payment. I was very happy with the service. So far, my experience with American Home Shield has been very good. My real estate agent recommended it when I first bought my house and I've continued with it.

When I bought this place, it had the original washer and dryer. I have replaced my washer twice but the dryer was working perfectly. So, if something is working, I'm not gonna replace it. It was a Maytag, which is the best. The dryer overheated and so, I called American Home Shield. I have the coverage over the years. Glyn’s came out and looked at the dryer and they couldn’t find the part. It was no longer available. If they could have gotten that part, I would have still kept my dryer because I spend money to buy good stuff that lasts me and I buy extra warranty other than AHS. Somebody called me from AHS and she didn’t even introduce herself properly to me. It wasn’t very professional and she was also supposed to send me an email, which I never got.

I went ahead and bought a dryer from BrandsMart. I wanted a Maytag but they did not have it because it was on backorder. When the dryer was delivered, I didn't even realize that the dryer seemed to be defective. I was trying to open the dryer and it's supposed to be right hand because the one that I had was a right hand. You have to open this dryer from the left. So I'm going over to BrandsMart because I bought it with a two-year warranty. So, I'm gonna find out if they can replace it because it is not what I want. I have to buy a Samsung. All those other brands might carry some defective merchandise.

According to the plan, whenever something is broken and they cannot fix it, no matter what the age is, they are supposed to give you an allowance towards it. If they cannot get the part, they have to replace it. I haven't gotten an allowance yet. Every time you try to call, you have to be on the phone for hours. AHS said that there was a number that I'm supposed to fax the invoice. This is the first time I'm ever doing that. So, the process is not working properly. I haven't had the time to sit down here for two hours to wait for them on the phone, which is what happens at AHS now. They should have followed up with me to send me an email. But I didn't get an email from them at all. People are paying the monthly payments and paying the 75 and sometimes when people come, they don't know what they're doing. But Glyn's is one of the best that they have.

AHS needs to get more people to work. If they want me to help them, I will help them. They need more customer service people and they need to be trained properly. I don't want anybody calling and telling me how old my appliance is. I used to sell AHS back in the day when I was a Realtor. Choice was offering me a better deal but I didn't pick them because I wanted to keep AHS. I went back to them because I've been with them for a long time.

The process of submitting a claim in and of itself is fine but coming out in a timely fashion is a little different. But it's not always that AHS does that. This time around, the contractors came on time. IGD Plumbing fixed my garbage disposal that was broken. They were very efficient and they did the job. I've had American Home Shield about a year and a half on my house in Annapolis. Submitting a claim is very difficult because sometimes you're on hold for two hours. Even to call them back up when I had a problem, they were long, long, long waits. After I submitted the claim for my Annapolis home, somebody got back to me relatively quickly, within a day, and getting the job done. The claim was for an air conditioning unit above my garage. It was a split unit and I had two people come out who couldn't work on the unit for one reason or another. Then we decided we would put in another part. When the part came, they found out that they needed something else. Then they decided to put in a whole new unit anyway and that took a while. So it took three months to get my unit repaired. That was very discerning.

I also had a problem here in Washington DC in my other home and that claim worked out well. They got somebody out in a couple of days. The washing machine was making a lot of noise and the tech looked at it and he ended up fixing it the same day. So I've had one disconcerting effort with American Home Shield and the other one was satisfactory.

Before, filing a claim had been pretty simple. I did call to have a service done in March for my air conditioner. It's an extra service where you pay $75 for them to come out and do a tune-up. American Home Shield was very responsive and a person came out the next day. I told the guy that came out that the unit sits in the ceiling. It's not in the attic. He came in, said he couldn't do anything and left. I called American Home Shield and they refunded my money. They've always been very prompt with what's happened. I did have my heater tuned up and they sent the person the next day, and it was done. They were very courteous.

But I have a recent claim that’s outstanding since October the 4th. The technician from GE, who is who American Home Shield sent out for my GE oven, came on the 5th. It was very quick which is normally the way it all works. Because he didn't have the part, he scheduled to be back on the 16th. On the 16th, I hadn't heard from anybody. He said the parts were gonna be sent to the house but there were no parts. I called to check and American Home Shield hadn't had any communication with GE. When I called GE directly, the part is on backorder till the 11th of November which would make it 43 days without an oven. I was not happy and I escalated it up to American Home Shield. I'm waiting to hear back something. It's unacceptable not to have an oven in the pandemic. It's a double oven and neither one of them works because of whatever this part is.

This is the second year with American Home Shield and the jury is still out on this one whether or not we'll do it again or get somebody different. I'm very upset over this oven situation. It's been very frustrating. I think part of it is this COVID but they could have followed up. The fact that they didn't know the person wasn't coming and that the part was on backorder is not good. We've recommended them before but I can't recommend them right at the moment.

The blower motor on the AC was not operating. Air Max installed a new one but there was an issue with the control panel also so they installed a new control panel. There was some issue with how it was installed and so, it was not coming on the auto cycle. I contacted American Home Shield and Air Max came back and fix the issue. They were prompt in taking care of the issue and the tech, Brandon, was professional and answered questions. I've been a long-term consumer and I understand that with the pandemic, there are some delays. But trying to get through to a rep from American Home Shield had been difficult. When you call, you cannot get somebody within the next few minutes. 10 to 15 minutes could be a reasonable time but if you have to wait 45 minutes to an hour, it defeats the purpose of having insurance. And then, you couldn't get through. You would have to leave a number and they would call you back. This was after Covid.

The monthly premium that I pay is not competitive to other companies that I've seen. The biggest difference is the trade fee. A lot more other companies charge a much lower trade fee or service fee for the services needed. Most companies offer between $30 to $60. I'm paying 125 so sometimes the type of issue is not very expensive to fix, but it's the time that you actually need American Home Shield to come out and do it. For example, the blower motor could be just a $20 item and I can try to do it myself. But by the time you pay the $125 trade fee, it defeats the purpose.

There were a couple of times where my trading fee was charged or charged for some service that was cancelled. So, I called three times to take it off my card. I still have to go back and check if it was done properly or not. But other than that, the kind of companies that American Home Shield are sending now are better compared to what I had a couple of years ago, where some of the contractors that have come out didn’t seem to be knowledgeable. The last couple of contractors who come out seemed to be a lot more professional and knowledgeable in servicing the unit.

When the pandemic hit we had to make a hard choice, should we continue paying on this policy as my wages had been drastically cut. Hoping it would've served us well in our time of need, it did not. We were without a dryer since July. We continued to pay on a policy after being put off either by AHS or their contractors that never returned our calls for repairs. When we cancelled we were told we were to make another payment. The dryer is completely out and we were told, "If you had not cancelled we would remedy this." No. They have not remedied this for 3 months. No one pays into something they are not receiving a return. It makes zero sense whatsoever for a customer to pay into a policy month after month with no remedy to an ongoing problem.

AHS took my $100 then denied the claim because the unit is slightly under-sized for the home (by only 180 square feet - the size of a small bathroom). They claim the failure is due to the unit being under-sized but I'm sure it ran fine for 20+ years... It's just old and that's why I bought the home warranty to begin with. They also refused to give me anything in-writing to document the denial. They said "We don't do that, we don't give anything in writing, just over the phone". American Home Shield is something we decided to have. I was a Realtor for a brief amount of time and a long time ago at our first home, a year of American Home Shield did come with our home purchase. Our home was getting older, so we decided to go ahead and add it to this one. Submitting a claim was extremely simple. Our refrigerator wasn’t cooling. Then, there were a few things out of it, but they were nothing major. It was an extra refrigerator that we had to keep drinks and things. I called American Home Shield, they sent somebody out and he had the problem fixed in 30 minutes.

If you're considering a home warranty purchase, you need to know that you can’t always choose who you want to come out. But in my experience, for the most part, everybody that American Home Shield sent out has been professional and has done a good job. Also, you need to know that you'll pay upfront for your portion of it. Be sure to read what is covered and what is not because people just assume that they get a home warranty and it covers everything. It doesn’t. You have to decide what you want covered.

The only issue we had is the tech didn't have the part. He had to order it and instead of having the same person come out and complete the job, they sent another person out. The second tech wasn't familiar with the job and bought the wrong switch so he had to go get another switch and then come back and finish the job. Then, right after that, we had an issue with one of our lights that's kind of on the same circuit. They had to send someone out to fix that. But it was fine after that.

My hot water heater was leaking. The plumber came and looked at it, diagnosed it, said what he needed to do and took care of it. There were some repairs done that day that made the heater usable, but he said he was gonna recommend that it be replaced because he didn't think it was gonna last. It was a really old unit. And then, AHS went ahead and approved it. The plumber came back the following week and replaced it. Everything worked out fine and so far, so good. We've had AHS for not quite a year in our current location, but we had them for about 15 years at our previous home in Maryland and I've been content with them for all those years.

Depending on the situation, there had been times where it was easy to submit a claim with and there were times where it wasn't as easy. The way the warranty reads, it was ambiguous as to whether or not it was covered. So I had to call in to confirm the coverage and that would usually take a while. In the instances where I was able to submit the claim online, it was much easier because I knew for a fact that the items were covered. But there was an instance where I thought the item was covered and the rep told me that it wasn't. But AHS had already sent somebody out, so they tried to assess me a charge for the person to come out despite him basically saying that there was nothing that he could do. At that point, I was gonna cancel altogether.

Then they asked me what happened so I told them. Then they said that they would cover it this time and at that point, I would have to be a lot more careful when I'd file a claim because it needed to be cognizant as to the I's dotted and T's crossed as to whether it would be covered or not. Other than that, American Home Shield has been a valuable-enough service that I've continued to maintain it over the years. It serves its purpose. The contractors have all been pretty professional anytime they've been to my home in terms of the work that is being performed.

I logged on to the website and my portal then I clicked a few buttons, paid my 75 bucks, and it was done. The contractor reached out ahead of time to schedule, and then they showed up. We showed them where they were going and they fixed it, told us what was wrong and left. Recently, my water heater quit working. Someone came out, and they discovered it needed a reset. They showed us how to reset it and why it happened. They did a good job.

AHS is great. I had several different companies in the past, but this is the best I had since buying them. My experience with the refrigerator was easy and fast. I had to wait for the part but nobody can do anything about it with everything going on. The last claim was for my air conditioning. The air handler was bad so it had to be replaced. May Heating and Air said my part was $1,500 because they have to remodify the duct system and then AHS will take care of the air handler, labor, and the freon. But I had another company come fix it, and they charged me only $500 on the labor. I just had to buy the air handler for $698, which comes with a five-year warranty but they give you a 10-year if you fill out a paperwork. Since I didn't go through American Home Shield, I was going to call them and see if I couldn't submit what I actually paid the other people because it's cheaper for me to go that route than to pay $1,500 and American Home Shield pay for the actual unit itself, the labor, and the freon.

It didn't go too well with Budget Heating, Cooling & Plumbing. Initially they had service requests for my kitchen sink and the bathroom sink which had a small leak from the PVC pipe. One part was stopped up and the bathroom sink was also stopped up. The guy came out and said it was fixed. I called back because there was a small leak under the PVC pipe and our bathroom sink was still leaking slow. The next day, two guys came out and one of them kinda like twisted the PVC pipe and said he fixed the leak.

When he left, we noticed that the water was pouring down in the basement. The same guy that came out the first day that said he fixed everything came out and said that the pipe had been broken. I told him that there was no water leaking down in the basement when he first came out. Also, the faucet in the bathroom is now broken and the sink in the bathroom is still stopped up. The toilet is now making some horrendous squealing noise. They gave me an estimate and it's going to cost $2,000 to go inside the wall. They have to redo the toilet and the piping in the bathroom and the kitchen.

I'm to the point that I just wanna cancel my contract because I am not sure what type of contractors American Home Shield is using. I read the reviews after I received the care from the Budget Heating and they are horrible. Now I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. I have bigger issues than what I initially had before I called them. Whenever I called customer service, there's a long wait. I understand COVID but the last time I spoke to the customer service tech, he seemed to be confused. He couldn't find any information on what was going on with my services.

I received the email saying that I was gonna have to pay $178 out of my pocket for a faucet. I was trying to explain to him, "Sir, I've never requested service for a faucet. My faucet is not broken. It was the sinks in the bathroom and the kitchen that were stopped up and have the leaks. Where did the broken faucet come from?" He couldn't go into detail or he didn't know why they had asked me to pay for a faucet. It was so frustrating talking to him. Maybe it was his accent but he did not seem to understand or have any information that would help me resolve my problem. He never even talked to a supervisor. Maybe I should have just asked for another customer service tech but it takes so long to get someone on the phone. You don't want to get off the phone because it takes so long to talk to somebody.

If customers are having problems with the companies that they referred out or they just have questions, American Home Shield should have staff that are able to answer questions and hopefully get those problems resolved. If you are a customer service tech, your job is to help the customer understand what their policy is and what are their options. Last time I checked, they told me that several of the request for services were closed like my issues were all taken care of and resolved.

Submitting the claim is easy because I do it online and they kick it out to somebody. But I've been having a problem with lately is the turnaround time for anything. The people come out fairly quickly. But the issue I'm having right now is there's a part that needed to be ordered. I've been calling every week. It's been three weeks with no dishwasher. The service guy called and left me a message yesterday that he can't get the part. But I already talked to a Home Shield person and they said the part would be there in 10 days. So now I have to call somebody today to figure out what is going on.

The most recent claim I submitted was for plumbing work because we had water dripping down from upstairs to downstairs. But it has not been resolved because the tech came out and he couldn't find the leak. I have holes in my ceiling right now, waiting for it to re-leak. Overall, my experience with Home Shield has been pretty good. But sometimes it takes a little too long for them to approve things for work or ordering. There was an instance before where the contractor said they were waiting for Home Shield to confirm and say it was okay to order the part. It took about a week. But when you have an appliance that’s out of order, waiting a week for Home Shield to okay to order a part is kind of a pain in the butt.

I had quite a few recent experiences with Home Shield. I just bought a new home and they sent out Realty Rekey for a service request. The guy came in and did exactly what I needed. He rekeyed three locks and one of them had an automatic push-button thing. He did good. This is not my first Home Shield. I had them at my other house.

The only thing is calling Home Shield is frustrating. It's a lot better to go online. When I bought this house, the seller purchased for me the standard Home Shield plan and I upgraded it. When I did that, that was one of the few times I called in. Their rep said that the rekey would be free. Since you can't do the rekey with a special service, you can't do the rekey online. I decided to call in again to a different representative. This time, she said the service wasn't free so I end up paying for it. This is an example of how talking to them individually in person is not good. Other than that, everything else was on the internet and everything went smoothly. Every one of the technicians that was sent out was good.

As a matter of fact, we’re moving to the East Coast and I hope AHS is back there. I plan to get it in my new home.

I've always had problems with dishwashers and I use the dishwasher a few times a day, same with my washing machine and my dryer. You call AHS up and the next day, I have somebody calling me, and that night they'd call me. They come out, look at it, and they know exactly what it is, and say, “Your pump would be here in two weeks. We’re gonna install them on the 28th.” They're using the same people that I used to pay extra to come out and do my dishwasher. But, they have to change their number on their website because the number they have is no longer in service.

That was when the guy was kind of smart-alecky, and he said, "Yeah, that's them." I said, "Well, can I change?" He said, "No, you can't change." He was kinda short. He had a very strong accent too. He put a bad taste in my mouth.

Now, the contractor was wonderful. Once I realized that they were legit, he was great. It might've been his wife who was the person on the voicemail. He explained to me that they were just switching over phones and they had to set up the professional voicemail line identifying who they were. But she was very accommodating. She called me a couple of times and told me when he would be available. I filled out a survey online regarding their service because I was very impressed. Everything's been perfect. I haven't had any more issues. The contractor was very knowledgeable about smoke detectors.

Our washer wouldn’t spin and drain. I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield. That was fine ‘cause trying to reach them on a landline is miserable. I got too many prompts, too much dead time waiting, so I went online. That was our first claim. The other thing was that I called and I asked for my well pump to be included. A gentleman said, “Yeah, I see it here. But I don't know why it's not on the list. You're paying for it.” He was supposed to call me back but he never called me back. Right now, I love the service that Sears gave me. It's American Home Shield that's got me concerned ‘cause I can't communicate and get a follow-up. I would like the members that are paying the monthly bill to have access to some human being to talk to because the same props go to everybody that's not even a member. Being a member doesn't give us any privileges.

The contractor that was sent by American Home Shield was great. He was very knowledgeable, figured out the problem quickly and fixed it. There were three outlets that were not working. One of them was wired incorrectly. When he took it apart, he realized that, and he rewired it correctly. A second one was corroded. It had a lot of dirt. It was shorting it out. He ended up replacing the whole outlet on that one. They're all working as of right now.

So far, I have no issues with American Home Shield. The only thing that wasn't covered was my septic area pump. It's gone out twice since I've been here and it's nowhere on their site to be covered. We live in an area that has septic and the pump is mandated and required. That should be something I would think would be covered under on a home.

The technician from Plumbers Inc. went out of his way to help me and assured me that the water heater would be done as soon as it could be done. I bathed with a bucket and a bowl of water for three weeks. Dealing with insurance and getting the enclosure all rebuilt so they could put the new one in, the technician did me a favor because by the time he took the water heater out, they wanted him to charge me even more money. But we couldn't fix the floor until the old water heater was out and so, it had leaked so bad and mobile homes have crappy wood. Before we put this one in 15 years ago, we put two-by-fours all across the bottom, which was one reason the water heater didn't go falling through the floor. But we had to repair all that. So, I had all that done on my own because it was a nightmare.

Nobody responded and people would ask you to send them stuff, and I'd send them, and they didn't even call back. But everything worked out good. I just noticed though that the technician didn't strap my water heater in like he was supposed to over the weekend. The straps are there from the old one. It’s law that they have to be strapped in, especially since we live in earthquake country. Other than that, he was fantastic.

Sometimes, American Home Shield is a little slow and you can't rush anything because you're at their mercy. But this time, it was kind of not their fault because they couldn't put anything in new. I was dealing with insurance. AHS is picky. They'll replace stuff but they don't wanna do anything extra. I had a toilet, and the ring was sitting up too high. And so, I had replaced my bathroom floor so they could put the toilet in, which they never did. So, I got money from them on that and I never had this problem.

I had claims for the toilet, which was running uncontrollably, and a gas leak. From the website, I was given an expectation that I will be contacted in the next 24 to 48 hours but AHS actually contacted me the same day. They exceeded that expectation. The plumbing company was great. They replaced the part in the toilet and fixed the gas leak, which definitely lowered my water bill and I'm able to have some functional heat. Greatly satisfied so far.

Something was wrong with the faucet in the sink. It was coming loose and wouldn't even turn all the way off, so the water was running. Calling in to file the claim with American Home Shield seemed fine. That's how I had done it in the past when I needed it. American Home Shield told me that the contractor would be calling me. Wade's Plumbing was very prompt in getting back to me and was very respectful of my requests. I'm a person that could be at risk of the virus and they're more than willing to put on like masks.

American Home Shield was raved about by a friend of mine and she kept saying to me that I need American Home Shield. I finally got them and my very first claim was my refrigerator. They sent this guy out who was terrible but it wasn’t their fault. It took forever for me to get American Home Shield on the phone to tell them I do not want this guy back in my house. So, the guy came back a second time. So much time was wasted and my refrigerator never ever was repaired. In the end, they got a guy that was responsible. He came out and he said it cannot be repaired. AHS was good about processing the credit to go towards the freezer, which was a $12,000 refrigerator, but they gave us three so that was fine.

I love American Home Shield so much since then, that we just bought a beach house and I got it for a beach house. I have told so many people about AHS. It is amazing, except for the fact that it's not easy to get somebody on the phone. But now, I tell people that I've recommended that if they push the button for sales, AHS is gonna answer right away. You push the button for sales and then, you tell them you need support. Then you can get somebody on the phone. But if you go and wait for support, you're never gonna get anybody on the phone.

American Home Shield did an assessment of my airconditioning heating units for winter. The process was simple. The only thing that was confusing is I have two units which I thought were both covered by them, but that's not the case, which is okay. I understand. I had to pay an additional $75 fee for the second unit. The techs that came out were good and thorough. They found that the coil on one of my units is gone and that it either needs to be replaced or the unit needs to be replaced and made a note of that. It's all been good with AHS. They follow their contract well and they're efficiently scheduled.

Most of the time, my experience with American Home Shield has been good and I've been satisfied. I usually call in my claims. I do it online too but even though I'm semi-familiar with computers, sometimes it's so much easier for me to pick up the phone and do it than it is to get to the computer, sit down, and make an appointment.

Every now and then, you get a vendor that's not good. I had one or two vendors that were terrible and I reported those. The recent claim I had was for the air conditioning system and that was fine. The people who came have been here before and I'm very satisfied with them. My pan needed to be drained. It was always clogged and it was dripping water. The air conditioning system is running fine now.

About a year ago, I had a claim for one of the kitchen appliances. The contractor was coming from Mississippi over to New Orleans. That was quite a drive and I was very dissatisfied. They didn't confirm the appointment and I had to call them. When I had problems, they did it as a video and they didn't come when they were supposed to come. I called American Home Shield and complained. If you do that, they seem to make the adjustments. They sent someone else who had been here two years ago and I was very satisfied with him.

I claimed two things through American Home Shield. My icemaker in my refrigerator was broken, and the shaft seal on my washer was broken, too. Back in July, my drum cracked on my washer. The tech took like five weeks to get the parts in and get it fixed. It was done about August 8th or so. I was trying to call in because they had replaced the drum, and it was leaking a little bit of water after that about every fifth load. I couldn't get that information to them. I had to put in a claim for my refrigerator, so I wasn't gonna have to pay another deductible. I just put it in as a separate deal, when I feel as though the guy who put the new drum in should have come back and fixed the seal that got screwed up.

I wasn't able to contact anybody about it because I called in to tell them, and I was getting put through the menu. I had already put in the claim on the refrigerator. So I didn't have a method to communicate to them that information. That was frustrating, but it got fixed. So I'm okay with it. The same guy came for both the refrigerator and the washer. He was great. This time, he brought an icemaker with him, so he only had to do one trip on the refrigerator. I was happy about that.

My overall experience with American Home Shield is good. The only dispute I ever had was when my pool heater went out, and they wouldn't replace it. I bought the house used so I don't know the entire life of the heater. But they wouldn't replace it because it’s had too much chlorination. So I had to replace it out with myself. Other than that, I have been satisfied with everything. I told my son-in-law about them and he took out an AHS warranty as soon as he bought his new house in July. He's happy with it too.

The control valve on the water heater exploded and I called it in the next morning to American Home Shield. They gave me the number to call. I got a voicemail that didn't have a way for me to leave a message. I turned around and called right back. The adviser I talked to put me on hold and called the company. They assured me somebody would be out that day. About three hours later, the guy called me and he was out in about four hours. He diagnosed it, went and got the parts, and came back about an hour later. He fixed it and everything was good. Also, one very hot summer, the AC compressor locked up and caught the disconnect on fire. The contractor came out and diagnosed it, ordered a new unit and a new outside condenser unit. About two days, they got it here. They came out, put it in and put a new disconnect on it. I would recommend AHS to a friend.
