It wasn't cooling in the back of the house. The tech from East Texas Comfort Solutions repaired it the day he came out. That company is good. However, there is another existing company that Home Shield had sent out there before that I don't want ever to come out there again. Home Shield tried to get the US Air to come out on this last claim, but I wouldn't let Home Shield send them. Other than that, Home Shield has done a good job by covering the things that they said they would.

The dryer was not working accurately. It would just turn off. Astro Appliance's guy came out, did his assessment and resolved that issue. It was a matter of something being loose. My husband was here with them. Thereafter, the recalls were related to when the tech placed everything back in order. The belt or some type of part material of the dryer was hanging out, and we were concerned about it being a safety hazard. That was what the additional recalls were about, for someone to come and restore that to its original state because it was not like that.
As far as submitting a claim, they put you on hold for a really long period. To be on hold 30 minutes to receive service or to report needing service doesn't work when you have to work or you have other commitments. From what we were told and what we've paid every time we've requested service, it's been $50. But they charged us like $108, and that wasn't a part of the contract initially with Home Shield. I'm dissatisfied with that because it's misrepresentation.

I submitted a claim with AHS because the hand sink cracked. But, the contractors that AHS sent don't do that. I had somebody take it out because I couldn't leave it cracked like that. Then, the person disconnected it. So when I asked the American Home Shield guy to come back, he came and said, "I'm sorry, but that's not covered." But I paid the $100 anyway because the guy had to come out. But that's understandable. But they came out quickly. I haven't had any trouble with anybody. I didn't have American Home Shield, but I've been covering it for my grandchildren. So then, I said to myself, "Let me get it for myself." I did get it for myself and then, lo and behold, I got here for the season and I had one problem after another. American Home Shield was really exceptional at everything. I'm very satisfied.

I closed September 1st and the day I moved in, there was water all over the floor in the basement leaking from there. It was a stressful situation, but everything was good. I called in to American Home Shield and they had Perkins Plumbing come out and diagnose the issue. They replaced something, and I haven't had a problem since. I was very pleased with Perkins Plumbing.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

We had 7 Cities Air come and service the heater to make sure everything is good to go for winter. AHS had a thing online where some kind of preventive maintenance check. So I did that. Everything was fine. The claims process is pretty simple. Normally, I call or go online, and I'll pay the deposit. Then somebody will call me and schedule the appointment. It takes threes days at most to get a contractor out. The only thing is that the copay is not applicable to all services.

It's fairly easy to get a claim going with American Home Shield. If I want a preferred provider, I have to call them in order to be able to do that and that takes a little bit longer getting through to someone. There was a repair done by another plumber, perhaps about a year and a half prior. That wasn't completed. So, I just needed someone to come out and complete the task. Gaithersburg Plumbing came out and they're excellent, which is exactly why I endure the long wait time with American Home Shield to make sure that it was Gaithersburg Plumbing that was coming up. This particular incident was recurrent approximately a year after the prior fix. There were some vent pipes that seemed to have been pumping gas back into the house. That needed to be closed up. It was horrifying. They closed one up, and then there was another one.
I have American Home Shield for two different properties. I've used them for my other property as well. We have to remember it's an insurance company at the end. You have to go through their process if repairs take longer than necessary. They require three attempts before they will try to replace an item. They'll try to finagle different ways of not having to purchase a new item. But having said that, on my other property, I had a dishwasher problem and I did have to go through three different technicians before they agreed to replace it. The replacement process was great. If you have patience and you can endure that then it works out. Having American Home Shield is worth it if you have the mental strength to be patient with the process.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

The toilet upstairs had an issue with the flapper and the contractor changed that. The toilet downstairs stopped whenever it would fill up when you flush it. Then, it would stop as it’s filling up, like it’s hesitating. It did that for four times. The contractor thought that it was air in the line. When they were here the first time, it wouldn't reproduce what I had talked about and I said that it’s something else. It’s when it fills up. They said that they would just replace the flapper. The next day, the toilet started doing it again. So, I recorded it on my phone and when I flushed it, it did it again. So, I called them and they came back. I showed them the video but it exhibited the same type of issue when they were here as well. So, they replaced the part that was responsible for when the water fills up in the toilet and I haven't had any problem since. The technicians were professional and did the job.

The microwave oven was not working and the tech that AHS sent out was very friendly and professional. He said it was not repairable so, I had to call American Home Shield to verify about a replacement. Then, I had to measure the length, the width, and diameter of the oven. After, I had to order it and I did that already this morning. I'm now waiting for them to deliver and install it.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

The guy kept coming out and he was trying to repair my refrigerator. It kept on defrosting. He took everything out. He said he repaired stuff but there was water all over the floor and all over the counter. He went out and started talking noise to me. I told him I was calling and recording him. My refrigerator is still not working. I felt like just forget it. I’m not fooling with American Home Shield. I'm mad with the man and yet they kept sending me the same man who's doing nothing to my refrigerator. I'm getting ready to give up.

At the beginning, submitting claims was confusing. I had a claim back in July and I had just got it done now. The process for American Home Shield to okay what was going on took like two months. And then, I waited for the guy that was supposed to come out. He called me at 2 o'clock saying he couldn't come out then. I had a window between 8:00 and 12:00 but he was gonna be out a little late in the afternoon. But they called me they day before and said they were coming out. I had already took the day off. But I left it alone.
I'm kinda glad it happened because a guy called and said he got a call from the other guy. This guy just finished his job and and that he was coming to see what he could do for me. He was totally professional. He cleaned up behind himself and he chatted with my grandson. He made me feel like it was worth the wait. He did a good job, explained everything to me, took a look back out, and told me to give him a call if I had any problems. Not only did he give me his card, he also gave the company card. I felt good about that.
I'm going through some stuff with Home Shield. It took almost four months to get my air conditioner in and I paid them almost $8,000 for that. I was at the point where I called BG&E Home because I was mad with Home Shield. They just started getting slack in their business. Also, I've been with them for a long time and I used to love them but I'm getting a little pissed off with them because if you're not talking to somebody in the states, you're talking to somebody overseas and you're not getting the proper support. I’m not feeling that.

I made a claim to American Home Shield for a plumbing issue that I had. I prefer to speak with a live person, and so I had to go through a lot of automated in order to get a live person. So, that's an issue for me. In the beginning, they should ask if you'd like a live person or to go automated, and that's it. They go, "Now go push this number for this, push that number for that." I don't have time for all that.
The contractor was fine. He came out twice. The first time, he replaced it twice while he was here because the first device that they put on the pipe was faulty. Then the second one was faulty as well and I had to call them back. Unfortunately, because of all that, the flooring and the cabinet were messed up because of the leak. The contractor was not able to fix the issue the first time, but it has been working now. I really like American Home Shield. It's been a lifesaver for me. It is a great benefit for those that have lost their spouses and don't know anything about house repairs. It's been a blessing for me.
Hi Sandra,

The AC wasn't cooling properly. It wouldn't go any lower than 76 no matter what I set it at and how long it ran. American Home Shield sent somebody out quickly. It was on a Sunday but they don't let people in here. They came back the next day and fixed it. So far, it seems to be working okay. I had Service America and those other kinds, and they're the worst. Those people never did anything. With American Home Shield, at least they call you. They send you an email right away. They give you the number for the company just in case. You can call them yourself and make sure they're coming and speak to them. I've had pretty good responses with them on the things I've needed.
Compared to other companies out there that do similar things, American Home Shield does a good job. If they don't fix it or something happens, they'll send the people back out. I have a weird air conditioner. It has a dual-stage compressor. They sent someone out. The guy got here and said he couldn't work on the air conditioner. It wasn't American Home Shield's fault that the guy didn't know how to work on it. They sent another company out and that guy fixed it.
Most of the people I speak to there are in some other country. They take your information and get somebody out here. But if you have a problem, like when they sent them out and they didn't know how to work on the air conditioner, they didn't know really what to do. The only thing I don't like is you can't get to speak to anybody here. It's hard if you want to speak to a manager.

My recent claim with AHS was on my refrigerator and 7-H handled it really well. I had to call them out a second time. Because the first time they fixed it, it did not work. They were still having a problem. They had to end up taking the complete icemaker out and reordering another one because that was a problem that Samsung had been having with that refrigerator. So, I was pleased with the second time. But with our first claim, American Home Shield almost lost us as a customer.
What happened was that it was a Sears repairman that came out. He said that the part was no longer available. But American Home Shield found the part, but the part they had to replace did not have a facing on it that matched the facing on my stove. So, he had to pull the old facing off of the old part. When he did, it was all lumpy and my stove looked deformed when he put it on there. Then he had to tape some part of the thing because the element still wasn't working once he replaced the part. He found out that the element had worked it out, and he had to tape some of the wires with electrical tape. I was so afraid to use my stove because, to me, it looked like a fire hazard.
Every time I called AHS, I stayed on the phone for three hours trying to reach someone to talk to about it. AHS told me, they were not concerned about the way the appliances look, the facial parts of it. If your appliance looked better before their serviceman came out and fixed it, it’s their problem to make the appliance look the way it was looking before.
I filed the claim with American Home Shield and I had to go through the Better Business Bureau with them. It took me from July to September to finally get pleased with that. They ended up sending out a repairman from another company that came out and he fixed that taped part of the element that he taped, the electrical wire. He put the right fitting on there where it was not taped. I felt better about that. We got American Home Shield because a lot of our friends had them. Even when I was running into this problem, I talked to them and they said they had never run into a problem like that before and that's probably why I'm still with AHS.
Hi Roberta,
I hate to hear about your most recent AHS experience and the hold time to speak with a representative. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

I made a phone call to American Home Shield and I was impressed with how quickly the contractor came out. It was on the same day that I made the claim. They were in and out and fixed the problem and were gone in less than an hour. We were able to get that cleared up and everything has been functioning great since they were here. We had a leak in a pipe under the kitchen sink. It's the pipe that comes out of the wall. I went online and submitted the claim. I told AHS what was wrong, and gave our credit card number. They set up an appointment with the plumber. He called that same day and came over. He was very nice and made sure his feet were clean. He did the job, cleaned up his mess, and went home.
We have three homes. My children each have their home under American Shield too. My son and I own one together. The dishwasher leaked at my son's house, and then the garage door opener went out, and we’ve been extremely happy with American Shield. One year, we went with a competitor because it was a little cheaper, then we found out why it was like that. We were so unhappy that the next year, we went right back and got all three houses again under American Home Shield.

When I start an order with American Home Shield, it takes an hour to two hours to speak to somebody and then, there's a time delay about getting somebody. I don’t like the phone communication but once the service people come in, they do a satisfactory job. My last claim was on the dryer and it was a husband and wife deal. The gentleman was very nice. The quality of work and the service of the technicians are always good. It’s just that drag time. I hear that from a lot of people with American Home Shield about getting somebody on the phone. It's a recording that they're busy and to go to the internet to place our order. But most people would rather talk to a human being.
I've thought about canceling the service with AHS but I've been with them for a long time. They don't have the urgency of getting somebody to your home faster. We have a maintenance on all of our air conditioner and heating. I have a standby generator too and these people take care of service once every six months to make sure my appliances are in good order. But my main concern is when I can't get somebody, I can’t use Grayson Air Conditioner to come out. They could be at my house in two hours.
AHS tries to cut corners to get the cheapest people they can to do this stuff as far as the monetary situation goes but I don't understand why they would not let somebody else who is a qualified person and reputable people come in and do the work. They can even put them on the phone to their main people, and tell them what's going on and what it's gonna cost to repair it. They need to have more urgency about taking care of their customers. I'm a retiree from Citibank so I’m used to working around a lot of people and I was in upper management. I don't understand why the service from AHS is so poor as far as trying to get an order placed. If you have a problem with appliance in your house, it's usually something that you really need.
I tried to call customer service and they gave me the guy's name but I could not ever get him. We have a son that has special needs and our air conditioner went out. I explained that to them and they said it'd be a week for somebody to come. We’re in Mobile and it's hot. Somebody in management heard about it and they called me and apologized. They gave me a guy's name but I never could get him to call me back. I called and called. He had a recording machine. It floored me because when I worked 47 years with Citibank, I always returned my phone calls and I preached to everybody else. I was over 5000 people at one time. I'm not tooting my horn but I know how word of mouth is the best advertising you have and it covers a lot of mistakes. Be nice to people and try to take care of their needs. That spark can cause a fire.

I finally got a hold of American Home Shield, and they sent this other guy. He was just awesome and very friendly. He checked the icemaker and said it was going to have to be replaced. The air conditioning went out and it turned out it was a capacitor. So the guy that AHS sent came out and fixed it. But then two days later, it went out again, but it had nothing to do with the capacitator. It was completely unrelated. The same guy came out and fixed it super-fast. It was awesome. However, it's very difficult to do the claim over the phone with AHS. American Home Shield could use some improvement. Right now I got another claim. My washing machine went out and they sent someone out. I thought it was all fine and good. Supposedly they have someone else coming out but someone from American Home Shield called me and said, “This is not due to normal wear and tear so we're denying the claim.” I was like, “I don't know why that would be.” They've never called me back. So I was really happy with the air conditioning but I'm not very happy with what's going on with my washing machine.

The ac was making a noise. I could hear the fan blades hitting something. And then it would be cool air for about an hour after I get up, and then it just was nothing, just air, so I shut it off and left it off for two or three hours. It worked again. Within about an hour, it turned off again. The tech went out and checked everything. He said he couldn't find anything wrong with it. I also put Home Shield on the house I sold. My air conditioner went out the week before closing. But thank God, it was the thermostat. It wasn't the air conditioner. They just replaced the thermostat.
The last time when I called on the AC, Home Shield patched me to the Philippines and the rep didn't understand nor speak hardly any good English. So, I just hung up. I called my Realtor and she found this local guy here and he took care of it. I don't care if foreign people have jobs. But they need to be able to understand what you are saying, and that is after you can get somebody to answer. Money-wise, Home Shield is great. Service-wise, they've been okay. It's getting ahold of them that is the hardest.

American Home Shield sent ABNation for my pool pump that went out. They came out and looked at it and suggested that we replace the pump, which they did. It ran fine for a few days, and then it started making some really strange noises. So I called them back and they came out and confirmed that something was wrong with it. They weren't exactly sure. They thought it was an electrical issue. It sounded like a bearing to me, but I'm not an expert, so I didn't know. But they were very good. They replaced it, and now, I'm very happy. Everything's running fine.
The technician was Dave. He was very helpful, thorough and professional and I was very happy with him. Everything's good with AHS. The only thing is when I called, I was on hold forever. I was so tired of hearing people say that it's COVID. They should be staffing up for it. Also, I said that when I originally went on the program that if I had a guy that was taking care of me and I wanted to use him and as long as he agreed to the same terms and conditions with American Home Shield, we could use the guy that was already here. I tried to do that and it just went absolutely nowhere. It ended up being okay because ABNation was great. But I did not get what I originally thought I was gonna get.

The process of going through American Home Shield was initially kind of difficult. I had something pop up on the account where it said there was a past due balance even though I had already spoken to a manager about that after about three or four tries. Initially, I spoke with a representative to update my contract. When I spoke with that representative, I asked, "When will this be in effect?" He said, "As soon as we hang up, it'll be in effect." I said, "Okay, that's great. So I'll just have a higher monthly payment, correct?" He said yes. Out of nowhere, when I hung up with him and I went to schedule the service, it said I had a past due amount of whatever the new contract price was gonna be that was already negotiated that it'll go into a monthly payment, as I've been doing monthly payments for about the past four years, every month, on automatic payment.
Because they put a past due amount on my account for apparently no reason, I couldn't schedule the service. I had to call back again and spoke with another representative that assured me, "Oh, yeah. I took care of it." Then again, it's the same thing. I had to call back again then speak with the manager but I never got through to a manager. I was on the phone for about 40 minutes. The last time around, the representative was able to get me over to the manager very quickly and the manager was absolutely wonderful. He said, "You know what? They give you the wrong information. That's our fault. I'll go ahead and waive that for you." He helped me schedule the service right then and there over the phone with him. He made the whole thing a lot less frustrating to go through. Then I got a couple notices in the mail that said I still had past due amounts but when I called back again, they said, "Oh, it's fine. Just disregard those notices."
If you're calling as a new customer or you just wanna speak with sales, it's fairly quick. It's maybe 5, 10 minutes. If you're calling as a current customer because there's an issue going on that you want to resolve, I've been on hold-up like 40 minutes before. If they had a feature where it said, "We'll call you back as soon as it's your turn in line," that would have been wonderful.
But beyond that, the technicians that came out and serviced the equipment were very professional. The actual service where the contractors have come out both for the bathroom and the dishwasher were great, even though the second time for the dishwasher that we called, we also called for the washing machine. We had to stop doing laundry at some point 'cause it had developed a certain smell which was from plumbing. It turns out that they don't do anything because of a smell coming to the washing machine even though that prohibits us from doing laundry. Imagine a sewer smell coming from your washing machine. It's not fun.
Beyond the washer, every other appliance was handled in a timely manner. First, they came out for the dishwasher. The guy said I needed these parts and put in an order for those parts. When it came in, he came and fixed it. The person that came out for the toilet showed up the same day and took care of the problem. He was very neat and cleaned up after himself. I was very pleased with that. The overall experience with American Home Shield has been fine.

American Home Shield sent C Mayes for a kitchen sink tied into the dishwasher. The water apparently wasn't going anywhere. They were able to do it in a couple of hours. The job was done completely, everything was working and everybody went on their way. I don't use American Home Shield too often, but it works when I do use it.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

My air conditioner broke and AHS dispatched local contractor for the repair. Diagnosis made and parts ordered. So far so good. Contractor arrives month later and installed parts and informed me there would be an additional $250.00 dollar charge for some kind of modification. He said AHS should of called me with an explanation that the service modification was not covered. No call. I have spoken to many people at AHS trying to explain why the additional charge. They all say the same thing. "We have turned it over to our contractual relation department and someone will get back to me in 24-48 hours." Nothing.
AHS would put me on hold and try to call the contractor for explanation. AHS would tell me that all they get is an answering machine and they will send them an email. I called the contractor and got straight through first time. They said they have not received any emails or phone calls in regards to my several phone calls to AHS. I have asked several times for someone within AHS that could help me with this issue with no help. They tell me they don’t have those numbers.
I have decided to give up and cancel my service contract with AHS and find another home warranty company. Not for what the contractor did but because of the poor customer service received from AHS. As the saying goes. Good service only gets told to a few but bad service gets told to many. I won’t recommend AHS to anyone. I would love to have someone from their corporate office reach out to me so I can discuss further. But of course no one within AHS will or cares.

I put in a request to have our stove fixed on 8/5/2020. It’s still not fixed. I have been on the phone with various representatives that all seem like they are going to help me with their friendly attitudes. But then nothing happens. A Plus Service, the company they hired to fix the stove, couldn’t get the right part for about a month. Once they had the part they never called to schedule an install appointment. When we finally called them to see what was going on they gave us an appointment.
Day of the appointment, they never showed up. When AHS called them they said it was because of a COVID outbreak and to use a new contractor. That was a month and a half after the original request. From here, AHS never sent a new contractor, never gave us a check for a new stove, and nothing seems to be happening. It’s been over two months and I feel like crying because they have taken my money and my time and have given nothing in return. It feels a lot like being a victim of fraud.

Called AHS to have my ac checked after it wasn’t cooling. Evap coil needed to be replaced. Repair cost is $2300. AHS wants to send me 300. I called to cancel the warranty & that dept wasn’t taking calls. Super shady. No one in customer service can resolve anything. At first I needed the cashout team, customer service said they weren’t able to transfer me and it would take 24-48hrs for a callback. When I said I wanted to cancel they put me on hold for 20 min and to only come back and tell me the retention dept wasn’t available and they would call me back in 24hrs. I’ve had this warranty for 7 years, roughly 4200 paid in. 300 towards a 2300 repair, what a joke. I advise you steer clear of AHS.

I have had AHS for four years and have had to call them out each year for several different things, but mostly for repairs to our AC units. It's funny how the commercial ad leads you to believe that once you're a member, your problems will be solved with no worries for you. That is not exactly true. Two technicians told me that I will probably have to go out of pocket to replace the units because AHS will never authorize them to replace, only band aid the problems. Mind you I live in the desert and even though it's October, it's still 100 degrees here. My AC unit has been out for over a week now while I wait for them to send a compressor (that I have to pay $700 for) to the contractor. I have tried reaching out to them via phone to no avail. Everyone seems to be using Covid as an excuse for poor customer service and follow up.
I removed my pool service from my contract since everything is new and under warranty. I was told that my service fee would be reduced as a result. It wasn't. The last AC issue I had they sent a contractor out who said he couldn't find any issues, but collected the service fee. When I told them the problem still persisted, they wanted to send the same contractor out. I had to pay the service fee a second time for a real tech to come out and diagnose the problem. Then I had to pay an excess of $400 out of pocket for them to add refrigerant. At least we haven't had any more issues out of that unit this year.
I'm quite disappointed with their service and hate that I have recommended them to friends and family. Here I'm trying to correct that error so that others can be better informed about purchasing a warranty. I'm sure all of these warranty companies will refer you to the small print in your contract when you have a problem, just know what to expect and if you can read a standard contract prior to purchasing, please do. You'll be glad you did.

My dishwasher had no power. It wouldn't turn on. I called American Home Shield, made the claim and explained what the issue was. They said they would assign somebody who would contact me to schedule and that was what happened. By experience having been a three or four-year customer, I expected a certain time and response. However, the experience was terrible.
Their scheduling system had me call in and each time, I had to wait a minimum of 25 minutes, one time, 45 minutes, till somebody picked up. I said I wished to make an appointment to schedule because that was what the text said. The person said their system was they'd take my number and somebody would call me to schedule it with me. They couldn't tell me what phone number it would be. But if I missed that call, I had to call back, go through the 25 to 45-minute wait and go through the same process. The first time, the number was a number I didn't recognize. I wasn't available so I missed the call. I called back, waited another 25 minutes and got the same routine. I scheduled it with them the second time and it was scheduled three weeks out.
The tech showed up but he was huffing and puffing. He did not wanna be there. He looked at it, pressed the button two or three times and said, "I've gotta order a part. When the part comes in, call us and we'll reschedule. But we're about three to four weeks out." He ordered the part and a week later the part came in. I called and went through the same excruciating process of waiting online. Somebody finally picked and told me somebody was gonna call me to schedule. I had to make sure I got the call and I did.
The same tech came out the second time with the part. He had to go under the dishwasher which he didn't like. He tried to do it then he said, "I ordered the wrong part. You need a whole 'nother motherboard. I'm gonna have to order the motherboard now and we're gonna have to go through the same process." He ordered the motherboard, I got the part, I called and went through the excruciating schedule part. This time, I said I didn't want Kevin who was the same guy the first two times, and they sent out another guy.
This guy came about two weeks later. He was terrific. He looked at the motherboard and looked at the part that Kevin had previously ordered. He said it was not any of that. He did a whole diagnostic. He took the door off and figured out that there was a wiring issue in the door. He fixed it and the power came back on. However, when he left, I called him real quick and he told me he didn't test to see if it worked. As soon as I put dishes in there and put it on, it wouldn't run. It turns on, the power's on, but it waits two minutes and then gives you an error code. I called Express Appliance Service and went through the same process again. I made the claim, went back to the claim and said it's not resolved.
Kevin showed up again and I told him what the other guy did. He pressed the button two or three times, same thing I've been doing, turned the electric on and off and said, "We gotta order you a whole new door or latching system. When you get it, call, and we're gonna go through the process," and left. This has been 13 weeks without a dishwasher at this point. In the three times Kevin had been here, if it's been a total of a half an hour, that would be a lot. The other gentleman did a great job for what he tried. He didn't reset something. I don't know what he didn't do, but at least he did something.
Good Morning Christopher,
Thank you for partnering with me to reach a resolution on this matter. It was my pleasure assisting you and thank you for being the best part of American Home Shield!

The most recent claim with American Home Shield is still unresolved. We've had people out to take a look at the dishwasher and it was not able to be repaired, so they had to replace it. It's been a lengthy process measured in weeks and as early as yesterday, I spent over five hours on hold trying to get a status update. It still has not been replaced and AHS was saying it could be four weeks to replace. It's in the new appliance department. There has been no communication back to us as to what the color of the unit is. All they said was that it was an apples-to-apples unit.
I'm also a Realtor and American Home Shield is our preferred recommendation for home warranty. The communication as well as the service is horrible and this isn't the first time. Part of it could be the trade people that they’ve selected because we've had a couple of different things. We had to get a water heater replaced and that was a mess. We were upcharged on that. It was not a good experience and this is for a home that I own. So, I can imagine what clients would be going through.
Good afternoon Charles,
I apologize that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist you with your unresolved matters regarding this request. Thanks for your patience.

It was a little harder than I thought it was gonna be to work with American Home Shield. There were so many rules that had to be followed in order for something to be covered. I'm working with a specialist with them right now because our issue still isn't resolved. She has been wonderful but the people that you call and report things to and call you back and say that it's not covered are like reading off a script. They don't wanna know what's going on. The customer service is not personal at all. They don’t care what's happening to me other than what they're told and what they have to say. I had to go through other channels to get my situation looked at in a different way but it is being handled now. We had to climb the ladder and talk to higher people to get them to understand what our situation was, which was unfortunate because I like to talk with people and be helped.
Having a home warranty and having American Shield is a good thing and it's a very good company. But I'm not satisfied with every step of my problem because I've been on the phone for probably five days overall trying to get this resolved, plus having to go back to my Realtor, and having to go back to her broker. It doesn't seem like it should be that difficult. On the other hand, when the technicians finally came and saw what the problem was and understood how and what it was, they were wonderful and amazing. They bent over backwards to help me. AHS is very reputable and they've probably gotten screwed along the way by people that are trying to rip them off. But it's working out and I'm very thankful for that.

Our recent claim experience with AHS went well. The contractor assessed my smoke alarms and changed the ones that needed to be changed. However, besides the fact that I was having issues with the payment issues, I was seeking to discontinue during the pandemic and re-establish afterward because I didn't feel like I should've had to pay for all of those months when techs weren't allowed to come out because of the pandemic. I should've been reimbursed or not have to have paid for those months where I wouldn't be able to utilize the service. But AHS didn't agree and they continued to bill me. So in order to not mess up my name, my history or have any bad accounts, I paid those fees that I don't believe I should've had.
My interactions with customer service weren't good. No one gave me a word about me being able to discontinue my services. Just, "Someone will call you back," or, "You'll still be billed. This is your amount," whatever it is, and they continued to bill me. So essentially, I had to pay. Then, as more time is passing, then my smoke alarms weren't working properly. Now, techs are more allowed to come out and come to homes. I had to pay the rest of the money in order to get service.
There are so many options with AHS. At the time I initially got it, I got the combo pack and it was competitive with the others that I looked at. So I ended up going with AHS but that was just for the sake of familiarity. It was nothing special they did. I don't even think having to pay that $100 every time a tech comes out is something that I enjoyed. I also wasn't informed that I could add if I had more than one electrical issue, that I can have them check it all out at one time, so AHS failed me in that. I spent more money than I should have in the past now that I look back on it.

He said the compressor had went out. He took precautions, but he never did come into the house because he didn't have to. He went to the outside.
This was the first time that I've used American Home Shield since we had it in two years or so, and it was great. I called them at night because I didn't really realize that my air conditioner was really going out because it was kind of a cold day. They told me somebody would get with me within 48 hours. They called me the next day. Then they gave me the number to the people that came and fixed it so I could know what number to look for. Those people called me the next day and came out the same day.
Submitting the claim was easy. My husband would do it the online way because we could do it that way. But I'm very old-school. I’d rather just call the number and do it that way. When I did the claim, they took all my information down and it was quick and easy. We've been trying to find the right warranty that fits for us. We're not renewing with American Home Shield because the price went up. They told me it was military discount, so I was assuming that was staying on the account. I didn't like that we had to pay the $100 regardless whether the person came out or not. It’s like we're paying but we're still waiting. American Home Shield is still a great company.

The tech from Mister Freeze was amazing. With all the ash in the air, it kinda got sucked up into the AC unit. So we flushed the outside out on our own. But the tech said the actual coil got overloaded so he replaced that and it was ready to go. When he was here, he tried to not come in as much as possible. He only came in one time because we were having a hard time finding the turn-off switch for the power. He had a mask on. He was fast. He got the job done. He was not even there for more than 15 minutes. I was super happy.
When I submit my claim online, I realized it's easier to make appointments, schedule stuff, and pay for things. But if there's an issue and I need to contact them, getting them by phone is a nightmare. You have to be on the phone for an hour. It would be better if they have the call back thing. Overall, it's really beneficial having American Home Shield because paying $75 to have somebody come out and do something is extremely awesome.
I found a few moments where it didn't work out for the reason that either it wasn't covered under American Home Shield, even though I tried to call about that ahead of time to find out it was. But they were pretty good about sending somebody out to do it over again because I didn't like the way it was done. When I had an issue with one of the vendors, they were very sympathetic about it and they sent somebody else out since I didn't really wanna work with that vendor. It's a valuable service. But it's a pretty hefty expense. It's $500 to renew and right now, it's really hard during the pandemic.

Submitting my claim with American Home Shield was good. The only thing is that it takes a long time for them to answer. I tried calling twice and was on the phone waiting for 15 minutes. Also, they were not even familiar with my contract with American Home Shield. They were like, “Okay, let me see what's on your contract,” and “Oh, I'm not too sure if it's included or what.” It’s supposed to be once you have a contract, it's written down there what's included and what's not included. Automatically, they are supposed to answer on the spot like, “On electrical, this is what's included.”
But I'm the one who said it’s included because it's electrical. They then agreed I was right. But I’m not supposed to say that. They’re supposed to be the one to evaluate that. I had a better experience when I was in a different state with another home warranty company. That was excellent for me. But for a recent claim I made with American Home Shield, SJDI Electric came out and they did a good job. They were very professional. I've had no issues since they were out and hopefully, I'll not have any.

When we bought the house, one of the perks was they paid for two years of American Home Shield and I'm glad they did. When it expired, we had to pay for it. My wife and I thought we needed to continue and I'm glad we did. I've had a number of experiences with them. I've called for an air conditioning unit problem, a garage door, a dishwasher and a microwave. I can't say that all the times that we've called has been satisfactory but the experience I've had has been easy. When you have a problem, all you have to do is log in on the computer and pretty much key it in there. Usually, they get back with you within the next couple hours. Hopefully, you can get somebody to come out but they try as soon as possible. The people that they have come over are generally very knowledgeable and are able to take care of the situations. I've never had a repeat problem with anything they had done so it has been very satisfactory. This is our third year having it and we have no problems.
Most recent claim was an electrical outlet that did not have any power. The first guy came out, tried something, and it didn't work. He ended up making the problem worse. American Home Shield had another contractor come out and he was the one who resolved it. He was good. He was explaining to me about how it worked. It was a light switch and a loose piece in that will have an effect on the wall outlet. He figured it out and everything works now. What I had connected to the wall outlet was my security system so I definitely needed to get that fixed. I haven't had any problems with it losing power and it's been two weeks now.

The burners had corrosion. We also found out that the particular gas provider for propane had a reputation for having more particulates in their propane than a lot of the other ones do. The technician was able to catch that immediately. He showed me how he took the build-up out of the actual jets. Once he got that going and burned through some of the debris that was loosened, things are working great now.
This was the first time I had the service with American Home Shield and it was good. But I was put on hold for 45 minutes and never got my answer. I got tired of listening to elevator music after 45 minutes so I hung up. I tried to go online but it was asking for information on just one particular issue. The issue I was having wasn't even on those issues. They wanted to know which type of burner it was.
A week or so later, I made the third attempt annd tried to call. It was picked up within three or four rings. The people-to-people interaction was wonderful. The rep was able to understand what I was saying and she got it set up to where when the technician came, he knew what the issue was. It was like clockwork. Precision Appliance let me know when they'd be there. They stayed in great contact with me prior to coming here and they arrived on time. The tech came in very professionally. I was able to show him the issue, and within a matter of about 30 minutes, he had me fixed.

I'm a first time homeowner. I've been in my home a couple of weeks and they told me that I should add American Home Shield so I did. It was a really good information to know. When I was adding, I was telling them I was just about to go buy a new dryer and they said, "No, you're covered. You can use it." When my dryer wasn't drying my clothes, they allowed me to use it then. It was my first time submitting a claim and it was a very easy process. It was really quick. They got someone out within the next two to three days. Gary's Appliance was very professional. They came out and wore masks. The guy needed some extra and he told me the approximate time it would take him to go get the part and come back. He did it in a timely manner and I haven't had any issues with it since so everything went well.
I did call another company for their warranty and they couldn't schedule me anybody right away. I was still waiting for a service call from them and I ended up canceling it after I started with American Home Shield. Hopefully, I don't need them soon but at least I'm comfortable knowing that I have a lot of things covered. They went over the tiers of different things and I got the one that better suited me. I do have confidence knowing that all I have to pay is $100 and I can get it looked at and corrected. If they can't correct it, they'll replace it. That does give me a sense of ease about a lot of my appliances and things in the home.

We had a problem with a dryer that wasn't drying the laundry. We called a technician. He came and he fixed it. A day later, the dryer still didn't work, so he returned again. A week later, again, it stopped working. The technician said it was probably because the vent was clogged. So, the heating element broke down. The bottom line of all that story is that American Home Shield was helpful, but eventually, they said that this would not be covered under the warranty because the vent was clogged.
I had a person coming in today to clean the vent. The guy that came today said the vent was clean, but because there's a screen on the opening outside on the roof, which I had no idea, that was what caused the damage. Now, it's fixed and now I need to fix the dryer. I also should get a replacement for the heating element, which I don't understand why it won't be covered through American Home Shield. I also submitted another claim for the dryer nine months ago and it was fine. The contractors fixed it. It is very convenient to order a technician through the website of American Home Shield through my account. They also have very clear communication on when the contractor is coming and who will be the technician.

When the tech came and I opened the door, he took a step back and asked me to put a mask on. He took precautions against the pandemic, assessed the problem and told me what I needed for my ice maker. They returned a week later with the needed parts and had my issue fixed in five minutes. I feel great about having American Home Shield. Submitting claims to them is very easy. I'm not computer-savvy and if I can do it, anybody can. It's just a couple of clicks and somebody would be at my place. It's very comforting knowing that AHS is there.

I’ve had several plumbing issues. For one of them, I was trying to get my money back because it took a long time to sign up. But I had other calls that they showed up, and everything was fine. The most recent claim was great. The guy showed up and was helpful. He solved the issue and he knew what he was doing. Instead of just replacing something, he fixed a few things. Someone that's really good at solving and good at customer relations will hear a question, understand where that question is coming from, kind of reframe the question in a way that is more useful for the customer, then provides a larger explanation. That's what I'm looking for and he was that.
However, American Home Shield is expensive. When I run into problems, I question why I'm using it because I’m definitely not using it to save money. I'm using it because it's a little bit of a delegation. I'm not happy about my contract with my Cool Springs house. I've been waiting for over a month to have a tiny little part replaced in my microwave. I have a rental house and I'm trying to rent it out and it's been over a month. People are coming into my house and it looks bad because it hasn't been replaced. I was talking to a representative and it wasn’t their fault but I’m really mad. I’m considering canceling all of my contracts 'cause I have a list of contractors I can call myself.
The repair company said American Home Shield was gonna replace my microwave but nothing happened. I called and they said they were not gonna replace my microwave. They wanna replace the part now and they’ve found the part. I called a week ago and asked what was going on. They said they were still waiting for the parts. I called American Home Shield and the rep didn't know what she was doing or what was going on. They called the company. The company finally called and said American Home Shield said they already shipped the parts but they never got the notice. That doesn’t make any sense. Someone’s lying.
The whole thing felt like American Home Shield was trying to save some money by not replacing the microwave and it’s costing me a month. It's like all of this was really bad on American Home Shield because it looks like they're trying to save a buck while they're costing me money and reputation. I call over and over, and people are like “I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.” I could have replaced this thing from Home Depot and paid less. It doesn’t happen too often, but it’s pretty upsetting especially since I’m not doing this to save money, I’m doing this for convenience. Now it's like the reverse of convenience.

I got some complaints about some other people that American Home Shield contracts with but Buster's Appliance is probably the best ever contracting deal that they ever did with a business. They are wonderful and I love them. I have their card 'cause if anything else breaks down, I want them to come. They are on point. They call you, set the appointment up, remind you of the call, and tell you when their workers come. They also give you an ETA of when they're gonna be knocking on your door. They say 8:17 and at 8:17 they're at your door. Recently, they had to come out three times for the washing machine. After the guy fixed one part, it was still locking us out. Then he found out it was something else that was wrong with it. He came last week and it's been working fine. I really appreciate them. Keep up the good work.

Service Specialist was out for the washer. There was a hose that came undone from the back and the guy fixed that. We haven't had any problems since with the hose. He said to just watch it. I also had a claim for the garbage disposal which was taken care of the same day. It was fast. Then we’ve set up a time for the furnace on the 16th. We needed to wait on our schedule so my daughter can be there.
The contractors for the washer and garbage disposal did a good job so we were very happy. When we had our furnace go down one time in the middle of winter at night, the contractor was there that morning. We appreciated the speedy service. They took care of things. They were very pleasant. They wore a mask and very respectful coming in and taking care of things.

My refrigerator had gone out about a month or so before. We had a lot of problems with electricity that night and the electricity kept going on and off all night long. And then, my refrigerator was on, then I noticed it was off. I called Home Shield, got an appointment, they had put me for A Affordable. I finally got ahold of them, but it took forever. They set up an appointment but they couldn't get here for a week. But my refrigerator, in about two days, just came back on so I canceled that.
When it went out again, then they put me with the same person. When I tried to call them, they didn't call me. I tried to call them and I waited 24 hours. I got one number, the recording was full, I could not leave a message. The other number, I got to leave a message that time. The next day, I did not hear from them, and the next day, I still did not. I tried calling them and both recordings were full. They never returned my call. I did some research on A Affordable. Some of it was really bad, and I never ever want them in my house. Now, my daughter did some research on that company.
Finally, I called Home Shield back to find out what was going on. They said, "Give us an hour," and he would call me back. He called me back within an hour to see if A Affordable called and I said, "No they hadn't." So, I told him my husband is 77 years old and I cannot take the food someplace else. I have to had it done. He escalated the claim into an emergency call, got it taken care of as quickly as he could. He was great and W&W was so professional. The guy was so sweet and explained everything. He did a diagnosis. He took time to find out what was really wrong with it, fixed it.
What the tech found out was it was the motherboard, but I understand with the pandemic, they can't get motherboards so he changed some things on some connectors. He showed it to me and he said, "I replaced those." The refrigerator runs perfect right now. I'm anxious to see if it blows it out if the electricity goes off and on again.

Home Shield is one of those things that you hate to pay, but you’re glad you got it. One time, it paid off. I didn't have to have an electrician or pay a guy like the North Star out of pocket. They would have charged me more than the $100 deductible that I had to put in, so it was good.

Two days after we closed our house, the air conditioner broke. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. We were early in the move so we didn't have computer access. It was very cumbersome. But when we called American Home Shield, they had a person take care of it for us. They did a good job. They fixed the air conditioner within a couple of days. It took a while to find someone because we moved to Arizona. It was 115 that day. But they got it fixed.
The contractor was very prompt, very professional and he fixed the issue very quickly. Then, my wife thought it should be cooler. So, she asked for a second opinion. They sent another company in to look at it, and they explained to her how air conditioners work. If it's 115, you can expect your house to be 68 degrees inside. My wife moved from New York. Once she figured all that out and understood these guys were telling the truth, she became very comfortable with their repairs.
Our AC has been fine since they fixed it. The company didn't give us a hard time. They facilitated the process and got it taken care of. If somebody asked me, I'd recommend American Home Shield for sure. I’d tell them that they took care of me when I needed them. The premium wasn't overly expensive, too. That, to me, is a good value.

I had an existing dryer claim with another company that was basically giving myself and American Shield the runaround for months. The contractor wasn't participating in the way that they were supposed to be. But this was just a one-off time. With my microwave claim, CD’s Appliance came out and that was taken care of. They were able to do what they were supposed to do. American Home Shield remedied the microwave issue right away. I've referred people to them. For what I pay and what they fixed, I don't have any issues.

The tech resolved the matter with the AC quickly and efficiently. When he was here, he stayed away and wore a mask. Home Shield has been fairly useful but it's a bit costly. The annual cost is fairly high. We almost didn't renew due to the cost. But it's understandable, given what it is. The claims process is fine as long as it's done on desktop PC. The mobile is a little less than stellar as far as the user interface. They should focus more on a mobile interface type of application. It's kind of made for desktop and then it works on mobile.

It was just a questionnaire. And then, when the contractor came, he showed me every part that was bad and explained everything. He took pictures that he would submit to Home Shield. He was very thorough. Home Shield will replace the washer. A plumber came a day later and he said it was a mobile home, and they don't work on mobile homes. So, he had to tell Home Shield and they had to send out somebody else. The second contractor that came out, for the $100 we paid, looked at it and just said, “Well, we don't replace toilets.” The toilet needed to be replaced and we knew that. He diagnosed the problem, he fixed the problem, told me what the problem was, and then he left. Also, I'm just fresh out of the hospital, and he was so understanding. I couldn't ask for any better and I wouldn’t ask for any better. Somehow, a wire got shorted on the AC. He replaced the wire and fixed whatever was that would make it short, and it's been working right ever since. I use it every night.

When I found the leak it was in the middle of night, so I just called the 800 number and it said to press a number. And then, it processed it and I got a confirmation. I got an email, and from there it was assigned. Because they said, “What's your problem?” And you say, “It’s a leak,” it picks up on your voice and it knows what it says. And then it gets assigned to a contractor, then a contractor will give you a call. That's where the issue comes in because they technically have 24 business hours to get back to you.
I got contacted by the first vendor with an adequate time. The vendor that came out was extremely nice and the tech was very professional, he knew what he was talking about. I was sad because it's my home insurance. I had the leak, they went and they checked it out and they told me, “Oh, it's not. I'm sorry, but it's not plumbing. It's actually the HVAC.” The guy was from USA Plumbing, and he was super nice, and he just told me everything, but then it got reassigned.
When your case is reassigned, that's the part that really extremely sucks because you would be put in the queue again, and it's another 24 business hours for them to call you, and it isn't even to make an appointment, to call you. The first time, USA Plumbing called me right away and made an appointment. And then within that appointment, because I called on a Tuesday night, they called me the next morning. So if you get a good vendor, that's awesome, because then you can schedule an appointment. And the next available appointment would be, from that Tuesday, it was a Friday morning. That was great. But then when we found out what the real problem was, you had to get the correct vendor out.
And then when they assigned me the second vendor, they didn't even call me. You have a choice that you can try and call them. I called that vendor, there was no answer. And because it has already been happening since Tuesday, then I call them on a Monday to try and follow up, and they said, “I'm sorry, but we really can't do anything because it's 24 business hours, and we gotta give them a chance.” There was no way to escalate it.
After I found out it was the HVAC, and the guy told me what it was , I said, “How do I stop it?” And they said, “Okay. Well, you can just shut your AC off.” But it was really hot. I'm okay with it and my kids were okay with it, but because I have my parents, who live with me, but when I called them, I said, ”Hey, you need to get somebody out here,” and they said, “Well, if it’s not 105 or you have a medical condition, we really can't do anything about it. You're gonna have to wait.” They said all I can do is call, but nobody answered it. They thought maybe because it was after hours.
And the other thing was that they went and they said, “Okay, we'll email them. Give them until like Tuesday to contact you.” They never called back. I waited until Tuesday. I called Wednesday again. “Look,” I said, “I called this and it's been since last week. Nobody came out. They didn't even pick up my call. I understand you’re insurance and you have all these contractors or vendors that work for you. But can you at least monitor your vendor list to make sure your vendors are good, and that they'll call you back or pick up your call.” I was furious. And when they said, “You know what's happening now.” I said I need to be reassigned to get somebody out here. Finally, they talked to the supervisor.
I understand. Some of the policy that they got to get fixed, which is if you called in, and I'm getting reassigned, there has to be a shorter time period. Because by the time they said, “Oh, we found a vendor and this vendor says that they're guarantee that they're gonna come out, because they actually received somebody,” they couldn't come out until, just recently, the Monday.
They came on Monday and they just fixed it. The vendor was okay. He wasn't as nice as the first vendor. Sometimes it's a hit and miss. He was really busy. The first person that came assessed the situation and was really nice. There was a younger team that came on helped him. The second one that came in was a bit more firm. He was great, because they were in and out really quick. He was more of a cut and dry kind of person, but that's fine. He was the one who knew exactly what was happening. It seemed like he was having a bad day. But I thought it was fine. I've been monitoring to see if there's a leak coming out. But it looks like it's fixed fine. So, I'm quite satisfied, when they finally got the vendor.
There were two other times that I've had to use them. The other time was something happened to the washer, and it just didn't work. That process was the same thing. It's a 24 business hours. The first time it happened, they came out and they fixed it. The second time, which was a few couple of years afterwards, I had almost the same issue where they couldn't find somebody to come out because it was a particular brand. It was a Samsung and nobody really works on a Samsung. The waiting period just took a long time. I had to tell them, “Can you just reassign it to the first person that came out and fixed the washing machine?” And when it finally got reassigned, Sears called me and made an appointment, and it was great.
My complaint is always the waiting period. And for the vendor to call you, because you can only talk to the vendor. But if the vendor doesn't call you, you're stuck in that 24 business hours, and it's three days. And then the unfortunate part was they didn't have the part. They had to order it and then come back and fix it for you. I was doing laundry at a laundromat for two weeks. A month later, I called in, my dryer had broken down. But the worst experience of all that I've had was with my water heater. Something was leaking and I saw it coming into the house. But the person that they sent out was probably the worst because when they came out, they fixed it, they said, “I think it's a nipple to this blah blah blah.”I said, “But it's still leaking water”. And then they told me, “Well, it just takes about a week.”
A week had gone by and it was still leaking. My floors and my kitchen were ruined. I got so angry with the vendor. I said, “Look, are you going to replace my floors in the kitchen? Because it's ruining all this stuff.” Because the kitchen and the water heater were connected. And to listen to that guy and the guy finally came out, and then they just, “Okay, you got approved for a water heater.”
That time made me angry because at that point, it was like, “Okay, we were not going to do anything with the walls.” The walls are now ruined. So, that's on me. But it was the guy who said wait for a week. But what would you do? I still haven't fix it. The water damage is there. There is really no other insurance out there that is better, but it's either a hit or miss. You can't live without it because when it comes to repairs it's really expensive. I pay $600 a year for it. And when it comes to certain appliances, like the washer that they replaced, and they gave me money and I had to go out and get a new one, or the water heater, those are really expensive items. That's why having insurance is really important. But they control you and you can't do anything like this whole HVAC thing. And the biggest part is the vendors that they use to go and send the contractors out for us consumers, to use.

I called AHS for our air conditioner and I looked it all up and found out who was supposed to come out, so then I contacted them. The reps on the phone were fantastic. I have never felt so easy and relaxed talking to the people or when the tech came out. If everybody was like that, I'd be happy.
The tech was awesome. He fixed something in our air conditioner and he had to come back and fix the fan because it wouldn't go off. Even my husband said that a couple of boards up there were broken, but he got some new ones down there. He took those boards off and put them up there for him. So at 84, he wouldn't have to get up on the roof. He explained everything, so we knew what was going on. He told us everything that he did. American Home Shield's claims process, as well as the interaction with their technician, is fine. But sometimes, it's really hard to get in touch with AHS if I have to call. I got another washer claim and I had to get it replaced. The hold on that was for three hours to finally talk to them the first time because the appliance replacement doesn't have one of the things where you can reschedule a callback. And then the next time, when they didn't send the email they're supposed to, I had to hold for another three hours.
For another claim, a technician replaced the gasket of the washer at my primary residence. But it was a different type than what was originally on it and we've been having problems with things. There's a gap between the new part and the washer. I went to Lowe's and looked at a bunch of other washers and the gap on mine is definitely bigger than it should be. We actually had a small piece of clothing go through that gap and stop up the washer. I had to clean out the pump but it was after 90 days when they came out so I didn’t even bother. After I repaired it, it’s fine but it still got the gap because I can't do that myself. We just have to be really careful because any kind of sock can fit down in there and apparently go down to the coin catcher.
If the property was a rental, AHS is probably worth it. But for a primary residence, I don't think so because the policy keeps going up and they can't explain to me why. I'm thinking about dropping it.

You could see the cleanout from across the street. I told American Home Shield about that and I had to beg for a second opinion. They sent a second opinion out and Cal-Home immediately came in and fixed the leaky faucet in the sink. When he fixed the sink, everything started working. I was happy that he fixed the leaking sink because my floor in my bathroom is now messed up. The sink in my garage ended up backing up. So everything in my garage is ruined from the sink water that backed up through my washing machine because they denied the cleanout. It had been going on for a week.
I called American Home Shield again on the 6th and the plumber came out on the 7th. He called me and said that they would not approve to do the cleanout. So I ended up having to pay him because he was at my house. I called American Home Shield over and over and over saying, “Please approve for him to do the cleanout.” He went in and did the cleanout, and he was finished in 20 minutes. Cal-Home rocks. But it has been absolutely horrible with American Home Shield.
I always have a problem with American Home Shield. I'm fed up. I also have Fidelity and American Home Shield ended up being way more than Fidelity at the end of the day because I'm paying monthly and $75 every single call. Every single time I've dealt with American Home Shield for the most part over the years, it has been horrific. They came highly recommended, but I’ve been greatly disappointed. They gave me a hard time every time.

When the part came in, he called, came out, and repaired my dishwasher. It's still working well. Before this, I had a claim for my stove. Green’s handled that as well. They ordered the part and repaired the stove. Everything was done in a timely manner. American Home Shield has a very good claim process and I'm very pleased with it.

I wish they could've gotten here sooner, but other than that, there wasn't any problem at all. The AC working right now though I don't think this thing has long to live because the compressor sounds really ragged. That was what the guy told me but he said he couldn't condemn it. He said American Home Shield wouldn't let him condemn it until it was totally out. So he got the leak stopped and filled it with Freon and it's cooling fine right now.

I submitted a claim online with AHS about a plumbing issue I had in one of the bedrooms. I was very happy about the process and how it turned. The contractors were COVID-sensitive. He was very courteous. I like the fact that they confirm the appointment first through text and a few hours before the appointment, they sent a reminder, and 30 minutes earlier, they sent another text letting me know that the technician was on their way. Great customer service from their end. It’s been great. I had one stoppage and one leak. The two issues were fixed. Since then, I haven't had any issues. I would recommend American Home Shield 100%.

We had a really good experience. We've had American Home Shield for three years. They do a decent job. We’re happy with them. As we've gotten deeper along with them, I find that the coverage becomes less robust at the same price. We don't have major problems. We needed our furnace replaced 'cause it had some cracked heat exchangers, and it was 21 years old and had only a 20-year warranty on it. American Home Shield allowed us to use the heating company that we preferred, as opposed to just any old heating company. Luckily, our preferred people go through them. The company came out and replaced the furnace. It took about a day to get that done and the heating has been working really well.
I had a claim before that with the plumbing. The guy came out and noticed that there was something wrong with the water main like shut-off valves. But it wasn't on his work order and so he couldn't do anything about it. I had to call American Home Shield and do another claim, pay another $75 and then do a different thing, even though they were kind of related. I guess their policy is that you have to be very, very specific the first time, even if you didn't know the problem existed. It's sort of frustrating, but I can understand it to some degree.
The only thing is that it's extremely hard to get in touch with them. Sometimes you sit on hold for hours or an hour before getting a person and sometimes, you don't. The online web portal can be used to schedule something, but you pay ahead of time without actually talking to anybody and giving any sort of detail, which is kind of weird just ‘cause you don't know if you should be paying for something. And again, you have to wait on hold to talk to somebody. It could take a really long time, and even then, they might not be super helpful. But at the same time, it's Corona and I know it's getting harder to get in touch with anybody at this point.

I originally called them out there because I have locks inside the house in some bedroom doors. But I didn't have the keys so I figured I might as well get them all rekeyed. The guy said he couldn't change them without the key. That didn't make sense because that was the reason why I needed them. We ended up doing just the outside locks and I just replaced the handles inside. I was gonna pay part separately to do the extra locks because it's an extra cost for other locks. Everything's fine. Walston was very professional. They arrived on time and I got a text message that they will be arriving soon. They fixed the issue pretty quickly. In the past, AHS had the same system, but you would call in and you might not get a callback. They would schedule the appointment after that and that might be two to three days. Then, they would leave and say they had to go order the part.
I had a refrigerator go out and lost all the food in it. That was 1,000 bucks worth of food and then it took them three weeks to fix it. It was a long time. That was a bad experience. But I used AHS a couple of times, for small things, like ice maker and a hinge on a microwave and to get somebody to come out and fix it, a 100 bucks is worth it, plus the 700 a year.

He was nice but I'm a little leery about his comment. Then he didn't know what the issue was with the meter spinning. He just said I got to get a leak detection company to come in and find where the leak was instead of really investigating it an awful lot.
He said he was going to contact American Home to get a leak detection company to come in but American Home Shield rejected that. They said they were gonna get somebody else. There was a GFI piece that was broken in one of my electrical sockets that ran all of the sockets in my bathroom. So, once he repaired that, all of the other sockets started working fine. I had a claim for my AC before that and my only gripe with American Home Shield is that they don't cover the Freon or the coolant or antifreeze. That has to go into the AC unit so it's quite expensive. If that's what you need, they only cover $10 per pound. Some companies require you to pay the full cost of having the warranty upfront and I like that AHS allows you to do the billing monthly. That is helpful as well as the quick turnaround and the ease of making the service request online. I normally do mine online and it takes less than five minutes.

In the meantime, the blower motor control unit is bypassed so my home may still have AC. The part arrived at the contractor September 9, 2020, damaged and was denied due to the extensive damage. The contractor contacted American Home Shield to report the damaged unit was returned and requested another unit to be delivered. The contractor has never been provided with tracking info on the reshipment. Both myself and the contractor were informed the unit was ordered and had an estimated delivery of 9/29/20.
I've contacted the company 4 times requesting tracking information in which the customer support team can't provide and places me on hold to contact the contractor to obtain the same information I tell them. It is now October 6, 2020, and the unit has yet to be delivered. My electric bill has increased 25% due to the blower motor is constantly on. I'm yet to get any resolution as to when the part will be delivered to the contractor so the repair can get completed. Back in August I report an issue with the microwave and to date it has not been fixed. After 4 tech visits to the house and numerous conversations with their customer service department they have not resolved the problem and both techs stated that the unit cannot be repaired and needs to be replaced. On Friday 10/3/2020, with customer service rep Robert told me that the unit will be replaced and I should hear from their replacement department shortly. He added that I could hear from them even on Saturday! Guess what, I have heard nothing.
Today 10/6/2020 after 40+ minutes on hold I was told that they are waiting for the tech to confirm that the unit needs to be replaced. I asked for a supervisor and was told there was not one available. I said look in the record and I repeated what I was told by Adam on Friday. She said, "Who is Adam?" One would think that it would be memorialized in the record, but she could not find it until I pushed. She did see Adam's notes finally and said they were waiting for the tech recommendation. Not What Adam stated. The call ended by her rambling off that I would hear from someone soon! Really!

He said that he'd get in touch with me either later on that day or he'd be back the next day in order to replace it. He had to locate the part. He wasn’t able to locate it that day but he did the the next day. He came in, reinstalled it, and it's been working great.
It's a hit-or-miss with American Home Shield. Sometimes the experience is really good and sometimes it isn't. They could have a quicker turnaround. If they couldn't get in touch with one of their vendors, they could get the homeowner in touch with somebody else or replace the product. Right now, I have a refrigerator that I had told them about since Jul. It's still sitting in my living room not working because they can't get in touch with the company that they called out. It is now October and I'm still waiting for it to be fixed or something to be done. The last time I talked to the repair company, they said that they were working on the part. One person had said that they do a thing where she has to send it up to her supervisor in order for that to be reimbursed in order to purchase a new refrigerator. But I haven't heard anything else about that either. When I called American Home Shield back, they said they were gonna try and get in contact with the repair company again and that was almost two weeks ago.

Drew's Pump & Plumbing called me at 8 o'clock the next morning and had the issue resolved and fixed by noon. They were awesome and did a great job. I was shocked. I thought I was gonna have a shower down for four days. They were fast and timely. American Home Shield's dispatch scheduling worked in less than 12 hours and that doesn't happen all the time. I've been with them for about three years now and they've always been responsive and covered what I needed them to cover.

When I first initiated American Home Shield's service for a dryer and a stove that I was having a problem with, a lady rep asked me what was wrong. So, I put the phone to the dryer for her to listen to it. She said "Oh my God!" as it sounded like something was something was stuck in it. I told her that wasn't the way the dryer was supposed to run. She said that she was gonna set up the appointment for my stove and my dryer at the same time. But then, when their tech came for the stove, he had to order some parts and when I asked him about my dryer, he said he didn't know anything about it.
I called American Home Shield back and I asked what had happened. I told them that I was supposed to have somebody look at my dryer also. The woman I spoke to the second time around told me that the first lady who helped me forgot to put my claim for my dryer in. I told her have an email that says my claim was for an "oven/dryer". The responded saying she couldn't do anything and that we had to wait until Monday. AHS couldn't get an appointment with Sears for my dryer so instead, they called a different company called Hi-Tec. When the tech came, he heard the sound and he took my dryer apart. He took it apart trying to find out where the sound was coming from. He told me that no fuse was blown because it didn't show an error code at all. There was something down in the dryer that was making the noise.
After he took it apart, he found what was going on. Near the motor is a metal cover and it was rubbing against plastic. There was a thick piece of cotton that was supposed to be in there. He cleaned that out and checked the wheels. He said my dryer had four wheels - two on the door and two at the back of the dryer. He said that sometimes, those wheels could get slashed and they would cause the noise that I was hearing. When he checked, my wheels didn't have any slices so he said he would grease them. He also checked on the transformer to see if anything was wrong with that.
When he put my dryer back together, it sounded like it was supposed to sound. He didn't have to replace anything 'cause everything was working fine up top. The contractor from Hi-Tec was very informed about the dryer. I've been dealing with Sears for years and I've never seen them take a dryer apart like that. He took out every piece just to get to where the sound was coming from. If I should have any problem with any appliance, I'd prefer to use Hi-Tec as my contractor. The tech was thorough and had everything that he needed. He explained to me what he was doing and what part I was looking at. I've dealt with a lot of service people in my lifetime and he was very good. He was on time and I liked how he presented himself.

I had a water heater issue. I put in the claim with American Home Shield. However, the plumbing company was hard to get ahold of. Sometimes weird things happen and they end up costing an arm and a leg. Having American Home Shield, I have somebody that I can trust to replace something. I like having them and I'm happy with the service all around. I had a claim where I had a couple water readings for my pool, and there was no chlorine in the system at all. I was worried about it and I wasn't sure if it was the motherboard system or if it was a salt cell for my pool. A guy came out and he made sure that the motherboard was good, and it was. He then determined the issue was the salt water cell. I had gotten it tested about two times from two different places and they both said it was good. He said that sometimes it tests good even though it might be bad. So he just replaced the cell, and everything works now.

There was a problem with the fan and the heating, and my wife put in a work order online to American Home Shield. The contractors were very professional and responsive. When they came out, they fixed what they needed to fix and then, when they could not fix the items that were cracked in the furnaces, they said that they needed to replace the furnace. It’s been out for over a week now. I have an 83-year-old mother who has congestive heart failure and is a diabetic, and the furnace is not working. American Home Shield said that they’ve approved the furnaces. They were supposed to be shipped to the contractor and we're waiting for those to be received by the contractor and then to be installed in our home. We’re very satisfied with AHS.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

The electricity went out on our furnace, and we couldn't find the electrical problem, but we didn't know it was electrical until after the first repairman arrived. He was very nice. However, he said he couldn't fix it ‘cause it was electrical and we'd have to call an electrician. So, American Home Shield arranged that quickly. We were very impressed. The electrician then came out, and it was a switch that he fixed, and then our heat went back on. We were happy and we appreciate the promptness, especially when it's a furnace, and it might get cold.

We've had some plumbing stuff a while back which was absolutely horrible. The company was completely incompetent. It ended up taking three days. The city water authority came out and cleared the issue because the company couldn't figure out what was going on. But the contractor for the AC was wonderful. For the most part, American Home Shield has been great. The cost is good for the plan that we got and it's definitely been beneficial. I would recommended them. However, I wish there was more stuff that's covered. Be aware that there are some things that are not covered so read the fine print.

We were having a leak from the AC unit and it started to overflow the drain pan. We had to turn the unit off and we had to call American Home Shield because the water was leaking through from the top floor to the bottom. We had to shut the unit off. The leak was very concerning. The AC went down on a Friday, which was a weekend. I'm in business and I understand that not everyone works on the weekends. The next Tuesday, a tech came. He was a very good gentleman and was very friendly. I was given a time between 11:00 and 3:00, and he was here at 11:45. That was very good because we waited a couple of days. We're in Florida, so it is very hot at all times.
The guy explained that the unit needed to be flushed out. He did some work on the interior unit and checked the outdoor unit as well. He said it was okay then told us to change the filter every 30 days like we've been doing and that was it. He flushed the system out and the drain stopped. He said he cleaned as much as he could. So far, so good. Everything's working properly. Everything went as well as could be expected.

Overall, I’m satisfied. I haven’t had an issue with the people American Home Shield has sent out. Everything was fine with the claim for my stove and oven. The guy was great. Last year, I had called about an item and to have it fixed. I wasn't too happy about the way things happened. They said they were gonna look into whether or not they would refund my fee since it wasn't covered but I never heard anything back from them. I just paid it and kept going. I wasn’t thrilled about it. But only thing I could do was just give up American Home Shield and move forward. I decided that I'd chalk it up as experience and let it go that time. If it happens again, then I will go to another company.
I read the contract but what I was looking at that needed to have done was kinda vague. They weren’t too sure on their end and what I've learned since then is to keep pressing if I'm not 100% sure. I have recommended it to a couple friends with that caveat, to make sure that you have to be careful and sure of what you're reading versus what you wanna have done.

Then it's COVID, so it took a while. It took a month and a half.
When he came back, he put the parts in. When he put the parts in, he said that the bottom of the dishwasher, it’s fiberglass and it's warped. So when he put the new piece in there, it wasn't getting a proper seal. That can’t be fixed and it needed to be replaced. However, the dishwashers are all on back-order. I’m a real estate broker and I recommend American Home Shield to a lot of my clients. We purchased our house that was built in 1909 three years ago. It was totally renovated but things happen. I wanted to get some kind of coverage in case something major went out, so then we wouldn't have to kick out major dollars for it. When I called American Home Shield and requested service, someone with Universal Plumbing Company came out and replaced a faucet that I had already purchased the year before. He hooked it up to two dishwashers. He was fine, quick, and professional. He was in and out in like 45 minutes. I haven't completed the claim yet because I need to get the receipt from Costco for the faucet. But the faucets are great.
We also had other claims like when we had to replace a part on our heat pump. We were satisfied with the contractor. I also put in a claim to have an electrician come out and it's been a week. American Home Shield has not located an electrician to do the job. I'm hoping they will contact somebody so we can get that taken care of. But it's a little bit like dialing for dollars when you try to contact them. Otherwise, we're satisfied having the contract with American Home Shield.

The time before that was a capacitor. It’s different every single time. It's been interesting. I like AC Rescue. They show up, and they usually know exactly what the issue is from the moment they show up. They have an idea, and most of the time, it’s been right. So far, I'm okay with Home Shield. I had an AC claim with American Home Shield and so far, so good. The installation was great. The troubleshooting and diagnostic to come to a conclusion to get a new unit was fair and understandable. Greenway Home Services was professional throughout the whole process. They had masks on. They had boots covering their shoes for the carpet, and they questioned me if I felt unsafe at any particular time. Also, they not only told me the biggest issue was inside with my HVAC which is up in the attic, they actually took pictures of it so that I didn't have to climb up there to see it. I did confirm it was my unit. So, they showed me in very detail. That's what made me made the decision to replace the unit.
I'm fine with American Home Shield. I've had them for about 13 years now. They're good. My biggest thing would be the timeliness from a work order to get someone to respond to whatever the deficiency is in the home. I like the consistent coverage that they do for the home. I always do the claims submission online. I've never really had to talk to anybody. So that's why I say it works pretty good. I don't get a chance to select who they send out. I have had different repairman over this years. But they never sent me anybody that I had to question or that I had bad results with.

He did a better job than the person before. He was very honest. That pan needed to be changed out and I asked if it would be covered. He said that was a question for American Home Shield. He was playing it safe and not giving any information which is probably in the best interest of everybody in case it came back and bit him. He was very professional.
He followed up a week later and asked if I had heard from American Home Shield. He had put in the information to American Home Shield but American Home Shield never contacted me. He said, "Let me follow up with them and make sure so we can get the ball rolling and see what we need to do.” As soon as he did that, within 30 minutes, he called me back and said, "I'll be out tomorrow. Fidelity Appliances Service Team serviced two calls. The half side of a Sub-Zero dual, the two fridges that rest together, stopped cooling. They wanted to put a whole new cooling unit in it. When it came, it was in a great big box. The refrigerator works lovely now, so they must've figured out what it was. The other was an ice maker, and this one's got a story that goes way back.
We had a different brand name originally and Home Shield had to work on it. They couldn't fix it and they wound up replacing it. We had a callback on this just a couple of years. We had pushed a button wrong. The guy who came out bent down and started looking at it. It turned out that one of the buttons on the front had been pushed and activated and it shut the system down on that side. He explained to me all it was and what we needed to do so that it wouldn't happen again. All he did was he just touched the button and away it went, so it was a quick 100 bucks for me. We've had good luck with Fidelity. They've been to the house several times for different things and it always turned out good.
However, we were not happy with the washing machine claim. That one had some issues that started to drive us crazy. We filed the first claim on it on June 27th and we didn't get any satisfaction with it until a week ago. The first company that came out asked how old the washing machine was and I said it might be about four or five years. The guy told me what was wrong with it, this sort of major part was going out of it, and it was not an uncommon situation. When he went back, the report that he filed said we had abused it and overloaded it and we had caused a problem. I took issue with that. Number one, I called the people that we got the washing machine from, which was RC Willey, and I asked them when I purchased it. It turned out that it was 10 years old and the guy told me that it would normally start having trouble at about year eight. We're just a family of one and I'm handicapped, so I don't wear a lot of clothes and stuff that have to be washed over and over again. There are no kids. It made it 10 years and the thing is immaculate to look at. Not a scratch on it.
I told one of the AHS people back there that when the company turned it down, they weren't gonna do anything with it and that would not be fair. I asked what they could do about that. They said that I could have another company come out and if they wanna do the same thing, I'd have to support the cost to that if it doesn't work.
The second company came out and the guy looked at it and said that there was nothing abused about the thing. They would recommend that it needed to be fixed. It's a legitimate claim and something that needs to be done. It's a crossover whether they fix it or replace it. The guy said that it would be costly to fix it. But then nothing happened and we couldn't get ahold of that company. We'd call and their phone would just ring and it would never get answered. We went along like that for a while and I finally got tired of it. I called AHS and told them about it. They said they would call the company and leave a message. They did that and got no response.
One night, when we were talking to AHS, my wife had her iPad and she pulled the company's website up really quickly. It said on the website right in big red letters that the company had gone permanently out of business and AHS didn't know that. And so, we had no contractor here to even do anything with our washing machine. I started calling in and talk to a person in the AHS call center and he said that this needed to get taken care of. He would call such and such and do this and that. Then he would call me the next day and tell me what the status or when somebody would be. The next day came and there was no call, and that happened about three or four times.
I started deciding I was gonna do a small claims lawsuit and just replace the unit and buy a new one. My wife had gone over to wash some clothes and she talked to our neighbor who is a real estate broker. He said that he has a sales rep that he deals with American Home Shield. He gave her the name and phone number and said to call the lady. She'd get something going on it. So we did, and although she was busy in meetings and stuff, she finally said that she would call her contact down in Arizona and they'd get in touch with us.
Within a couple of hours, this lady called me from down there and said that she'd have this resolved by the next day, and she did. She said that they decided to replace the washing machine. We could either have the money or they would buy us a new one. She warned us that if we decide to have them do it, it could take two or three weeks before they get something to us. And so, we decided to take the money and buy one locally. They gave us $866 or something to replace a washing machine. The one my wife bought was a good one which was $1,400. The only negative thing that came out of that other than the delay of time was what units we had were red and we couldn't get that anymore. We had to take one of those kinda sleigh-colored units, so it's two different colors in there but that's not the end of the world.
The lady did a wonderful job. She told me what her boss's name or email address was, and she said she'd be leaving for long. I told her that if she wanna do that, she should try to do it right away so she gets it and gets it in the system. And so, I sent her a really glowing letter that said they had a great employee there and they should know when they've got a good one, and we were very pleased with this lady.
AHS is trying to pick the pieces up and we have more than gotten our money out of them. I kinda got irritated with them a while back and I decided to get rid of them. I was gonna replace it with another program. I gave them up and they were even nice about that. I started looking for something like that but then I came to the conclusion that I couldn't replace it. There wasn't one out there that was as good as what the American Home Shield's program was. I went back and signed up with it.

He had the relay in stock and he just changed it. The refrigerator is working now. My overall experience with American Home Shield was good. It was just hard to get ahold of somebody. I had to try two or three times to get ahold of somebody.

The whole time since I first started calling AHS for our plumbing issue, I've had at least two contractors come out. One, he knew what he was doing. Then one said they don't work on it that particular brand. That we got to call back, about the third time. It took close to a month before somebody did what they're supposed to have been doing. But when he got here, he did a great job. He knew what the problem was and he fixed it right up. It took no time. One company was talking about removing the water heater. But this last one was perfect.
American Home Shield should pick the companies that go and do their work, instead of making it bad for them. 'Cause I was almost a month without hot water and I got seven people living in the house with babies. So that's what upset me. It really helps with making sure that they get in touch with the right people instead of just getting anybody. But I would recommend American Home Shield highly. That was just one mishap out of many. They've been right on their job, doing what they're supposed to have been doing. I'm just thinking that's just a bad choice or it's 'cause of what's going on in the world, they just call anybody. But they've been good so far for me.

American Home Shield always does a good job. When the pandemic was going on, it was hard to get through sometimes because everybody was calling in. But usually, it's not and there's no problem going through. I had East Electronics install a cooktop for me and they did great.

The refrigerator was not cooling. The oil is leaking underneath it. I opened up a claim and a company came in but they sucked. They said that they couldn't work on it. It was a waste of time. It was very inconvenient. Then American Home Shield referred to Sonic and it took another five days for Sonic to get out here. They came and said that they saw the issue but they were not gonna work on it. They told me I needed to contact this other company instead. I contacted that company and they're gonna come work on it in October. So the issue is still not resolved. The refrigerator hasn't been working for a month. I paid the 75 bucks for it and some other company outside of American Home Shield is gonna fix it. I want to get a reimbursement of $75 insurance claim that I put in there.
The guy from Sonic was really good. But American Home Shield wasn't able to properly send the right people, given that they had all the details. When the first guy came out, he said they don't work on a Sub-Zero fridge. But American Home Shield knew that it was a Sub-Zero fridge because I'm required to fill that out when I make the claim.
I had a pool claim and it is still unresolved too. They said that the warranty covers an electrical issue, and then they sent out the vendor, and the vendor came out here saying they don't cover electrical. That's another 75 bucks I need to get back because they never fixed the issue. Every time I call American Home Shield, I have to spend an hour on hold because they're not staffed. So nobody's got time for any of this stuff.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

American Home Shield has always done well. The only time I ever had a problem was with a stove. My electric stove went out and it seemed like it took a long time to get it installed. It was a couple of weeks. First, it was, "We'll send you one," then, "We'll give you the cash." I said, "I'll take whatever the buyout is and I'll go look for one here so I can look at what I wanna get," rather than just having them send me something. Outside of that, I've had really good luck with American Home Shield.
I had a water heater go bad. I did the claim online and within one day, I got an answer back saying that American Home Shield had assigned somebody. The people called me the next day and sent a representative by to look at it. The junk was rusted out and it would need to be replaced. The guy said, "I'll go back and submit the claim." A week went by and they called and said, "We got your got your water heater," and he was gonna be there the next day. He came and installed it. I called the company the guy works for, Pruitt's Plumbing, and told them he had to be one of the best people I'd ever seen.

The guy came and he was great. He was wonderful but it took me so long to try and place the order because of all the machinations. It was difficult to place an order and that shouldn't have been. Whenever I put my password in, it seems to forget it and then, I have to do a new one. All the hoops I had to go through were very disconcerting. Their whole system is totally changed in the past few years than how it used to be and it's very uneven as far as quality. I used to be a real estate agent, very active, and I always had very positive experiences with American Home Shield. It was all done in the US but to have it offshore and be calling somebody in the Philippines to have to place an order is deplorable.
Hi Sally,
I would be glad to speak with you and discuss your most recent AHS experience to speak with a representative.

American Home Shield sent someone to check out my furnace. I went online and did a claim. I filled out the form, I paid what I needed to pay, and they set up an appointment. The contractor was very nice and professional. He had to go get the part and come back the next day. I'm still trying to assess the furnace after the repair. We were smelling gas, and he said a part had to be changed. I've still been smelling gas, but I'm trying to just wait and see if it continues. He told me to call them back if I still smell gas over a period of time. So, I will call them back if it doesn't go away.
Hi Rebecca,
I would be glad to speak with you and send a recall for the furnace.

The AC had turned off. I thought the thermostat might have gone bad. I went and bought a new one, and it was not. Then I realized the pan was filled up with water and triggered the float switch. Family Heating and Air came and got the lines cleaned out. The technician got his work done and was professional. I left him alone and I didn't waste his time. We haven't had any problems since then.
I've been with American Home Shield for 15 years now and I like not having to deal with finding a repair person. I also feel like I'm paying for my repairs monthly with my monthly fee instead of having to do it all at one time. It's nice to know that if I have something big, we're only looking at $75. However, the thing that I'm not crazy about is the time to get a technician out is typically lengthy. When it's AC, it's a week before they need to get out there, and they got to order a part, and then I'd be about 50 pounds lighter by the time they got back.
Another thing is the turn time because American Home Shield doesn't have enough contractors. For the AC, there are two. Family Heating and Air was great. They got me in as quickly as they could. But they're out of Pensacola Florida which is at least 45 minutes away. Then there's Myers Heating & Air which is actually out of Montgomery Alabama that’s two and a half hours from here. I'm sure they have some local people, however they're not a local company. But it is what it is, and it still saved me a lot of money, so I'm gonna go with it. I got an AC system that's 22 years old. When I know I've had it this long, I'm gonna let them buy me a new one.

My AC issue has been resolved. Myers Comfort was very good. I was very pleased with the time that they got back to us, and then the time that they came back to do the actual repair. Both gentlemen that came, the first gentleman who made the diagnostics on it, and the gentlemen who actually made the repair were very good and very professional. They were very nice.
With American Home Shield , so far, so good. Unfortunately, this week, we had something else go wrong and it upsets me so much. I cannot believe that we've had two things go wrong within a month. There's not an actual company that AHS assigned us to for this next problem that we have. I tried to call the phone number that they provided, and there's like a 43-minute wait for them to come on the line. I don't even know who they are. It doesn't give me a name of who this company is, where they're located or where they're coming from. I have not heard from them. That's the only thing that I'm concerned about. We have lots of local companies that are much closer to where we live. There are good companies in the vicinity that AHS shouldn't have to call somebody an hour away. Other than that, I'm happy with what AHS has done for me so far.

I talked to the water company and they said I had a leak somewhere. But I found the leak before they came and it was my toilet valve. When the tech arrived, he just had to switch out the little valve there down at the bottom because the one that I had wasn't keeping the water from leaking out. So, I had a $280 water bill and that was where it was coming from because it wouldn't stop running. Other than that, the technician was fine. But I have a problem with the call fee that AHS requires because sometimes there's going to be nothing for the techs to do when they get here. Still, that's fine and I'm sure I'm going to need them for something else.

It was a simple fix but the guy was really nice and he showed me something educational. He was very professional. I really was glad that he came out. When I made the claim, the AC was blowing but it was nothing cool coming out. He fixed it within an hour and everything's working great. I had an issue because it took them five or six days altogether. It was a Friday when my air went out. The next Monday was a holiday so the first person that was supposed to come fix it did reach out to me the next Tuesday. They scheduled me for the next Friday. Friday came and nobody showed up so I had to call and get it rescheduled. It took like a week and a half for somebody to come out. He was the second one that they had assigned for me. When they called him, he was already booked so he came the next day he was available. That's the only time I've used American Home Shield and I do like having the service.

He was very nice, professional and listened to the problems. He fixed the AC in 10 minutes. I signed the paper and since then, we’re okay. I'm happy with the service and with the guy. They would reimburse her up to $494 and some change. The new washer cost her $700 though. That aside, the crew that she had up there was good. The professionalism, especially from Joey's, was great. But trying to finalize and getting my microwave repaired is kind of a pain in the butt right now. The contractors were great and they came out when scheduled. The claim is still out there, and we are frustrated beyond measure. The tech came out, and he did immediately. He said that we needed two new parts. So, they ordered. They were supposed to come out Tuesday. Home Shield called Tuesday morning and said, “Oh, we're so sorry. We have one part. We're still waiting on the other part, we have to cancel it.” So, we have been without a refrigerator now for over a month. They have no idea when the part will get here. We still can't get anybody out here to get it fixed. We have no idea if the part has even been ordered. The tech said at one point that they didn't make it anymore. So, he would talk to Home Shield because they just needed to get us a new refrigerator. And then, they were all of a sudden saying, “No, we found the part.” But they obviously haven't found the part. And this has been going on back and forth.
What I need to do is talk to a supervisor who can make something happen, because, for a month, nothing has happened. The contractor said as soon as they get the go-ahead and they hear that they have the part, they would be out of here in a day. So, the issue is not with them. It's with Home Shield, and the lack of being honest with us and telling us. I don't know if they know there's no part and they just don't want to get another refrigerator, so they're stalling. I don't know what they're doing. My husband has tried to talk to people higher up. They wouldn't connect us to anyone. He's an attorney, and he's at the point that he's about to write a demand letter. It has gotten that bad. I am a real estate agent who has recommended Home Shield to numerous clients. But that's gonna stop because this is absurd. It's crazy for me to be without a refrigerator.

My air conditioner, which was about a 20-year old unit, went out and it was when we were going through 110-degree days here. The technician came out on the 7th of September, and they troubleshot it and said it needed a new compressor. I would commend them because they were out the same day I called them. They ordered a compressor and I didn't hear anything from anybody for 16 days. I talked to about three different agents, and they were no help at all. One agent said they’d call me back and they never called back. All I wanted to do was find out if the thing was ordered and if it was available because I believed that they no longer made parts for the unit. I wanted to get a due date and then I could start making some plans, but nobody knew anything about it. This was on a Thursday, and we were getting ready for some more hot days. I called the contractor and they said that they didn't order it and that AHS ordered it.
So, I contacted the company and said that I needed an air conditioning unit. We initiated a buyout and the unit was $3,900. Almost two weeks later, AHS sent me a check for $1,940 which is just about half of what the new air conditioning unit cost. I wasn't real happy with the company because I bought a policy expecting that either way I would get mine repaired or I would get a like unit installed, and it never happened. I wound up paying over half of the cost for the unit. If the contract reads that they would either repair or replace, I like to see them stay steady on that. I know that I'm still with them temporarily until I can find a better company. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody.

I called American Home Shield for an air conditioning claim. Their air conditioning people called for an electrician. After that electrician came out, our air conditioner went out again. First, the unit would freeze, and then the techs don't come out. They clean it outside and inside and put it in again but then it would freeze again. One of the techs was charging my husband for the refrigerant he was gonna put in. But then, the techs found that the AC is still freezing our pipes so I don't know why my husband has to pay them. AHS's techs can't seem to fix what my problem is. They have been out at my place a bunch of times. This problem has been going for three or four weeks.
