I went online and submitted a claim with AHS for the refrigerator and the washer. Then, I received an email saying that they had the claim and it was assigned. The contractor came out and they had to order parts for the refrigerator. When they came back to fix that, it's been fine but for the refrigerator, the tech said that they to do a recall on it. I'm still waiting to hear back on that.
Prior to that claim, I had an AC claim. The contractor came out and he filled up the liquid but he didn't replace the filters. He gave me the information to order the filters and replace them myself. With the previous warranty that we had for our AC company, that was included. I'm not sure money-wise that it's beneficial for the AC because those filters are expensive. The AC warranty that I had previously, even though it's standalone, was more beneficial.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take

American Home Shield has been great. The contractor was great too. He was on time and got the work done. He was polite and kind. He thought it was gonna take a long time to get the part in and it didn't at all. He called me right away and said it was in and got it installed. The dishwasher is working great now. It was fixed and that was huge.

I understand there's COVID and some backlog, but if you have a downed freezer, you shouldn't have to wait three months to get it fixed. We noticed that the entire side of the freezer was frosting over very thickly. It was having freezing drizzle, frozen ripples down the freezer wall. It was making ice on top of the shelves. The shelves wouldn’t slide out ‘cause they were frozen. Everything was getting soft. Our temperature would vary from 5 degrees below to 40. Spontaneously, in an hour or so, it’d go back to 5 and then 40. Stuff was kinda freezing and thawing. The ice cube maker was making ice cubes overflowing onto the two shelves below. It was heaped up and going over the edges. I had to take a couple pans to scoop out all the excess ice then dump out the ice in the ice tray to keep it from doing it again.
It took American Home Shield two months to get back to me from the people they contract out to. When we called, their American Home Shield operator had a deep, foreign accent. She said, "We'll get to you within one to two days." I called back a week later. She said, “We'll get to you in one to two days.” You’d think they would be able to pursue it a little heavier but she said, “I cannot control that. I can just send out the contract for people out of West Virginia to come. We can just put it and that's all we can do. We can't do anything other than put in a contract request.”
The contractor finally reached out and came out a week later. They don't have the parts and I haven't heard from them for about a week and a half. The guy came out and thought that the panel and the fan that cycles the air around in the freezer were probably bad. That was his conclusion. I'm frustrated with this one service call but everything else has been great. We've had a couple thermostats for our furnace replaced over time and those people came out within 24, 48 hours. They were great.

My heat was coming on and off intermittently. AHS's techs from Myers Comfort Specialist came out and checked everything. They changed a sensor but when we turned out heat back on after they left, it started doing the same thing. Myers came back and found that our thermostat was bad. So, they changed that. Everything has been working fine so far.

American Home Shield has been very accommodating. We requested All Clear Plumbing because AHS sent them out initially when we first moved in. When we submitted our recent claim, All Clear didn't show up. We quickly called American Home Shield to see if we could request All Clear because we had such a favorable experience before, and they were very quick to accommodate that. We're very appreciative. All Clear Plumbing came out and they were fantastic. They were by far superior all the way around. We were very impressed. They had foot coverings as well as masks. And, they sent a text message as well as they called us when they were en route. The technician was incredibly respectful and professional, which is very refreshing.

Putting in a claim with Home Shield has been easy. The tech from H & C Electric recently came over, had on a mask, figured out what the problem was and fixed it. The issue had something to do with the socket and he resolved it. Everything was fine. It's nice to be able to call someone to get somebody to come and fix it than having a hard time find somebody to fix your issues. And since I’ve been here, I've only had two major issues. I called someone and they looked into it.

Southway Appliance Specialist came out and the guy was very nice and professional. He let us know when he would be there and he wore his mask. He explained to us what was wrong, and he fixed it on the first try. We lived in an older home and I knew things were gonna start breaking down. My son had American Home Shield, and now, I've had it for years too. One time, I called them and it took forever for somebody to answer. I hung up that day, tried back the next day, and still didn't get anybody. I had to call back the next day. Trying to get them is a problem, but once you get them, the service is great.

My air conditioner quit cooling so I had the contractor come out. They came out to see if they could fix it. The tech said that there was no Freon in it and he found a leak. He fixed it and added seven pounds of Freon to it. Then he charged me $25 a pound. He said AHS didn't pay over $10 a pound and Freon was $35 a pound. The surprise of the extra charge that I had was the only thing that I wasn't very happy with. But I had to have it, so that was fine.

American Home Shield has been good. Recently, the garbage disposal that's 23 years old froze up so I called them. The guy came out and took a look at it, tested it and said he had one on the truck. In like 45 minutes, he was out of here and everything is perfect. I was really happy. The guy was really good and very professional. He went right to work and cleaned up everything afterwards.
I had one problem with American Home Shield a while back. The heater had quit and it was 18 degrees out here in wintertime. It's Nevada and I'm 75 years old. I called in and they sent somebody out. The guy came out and said, "I can get it going. I'll turn in the claim but the bushing's gonna go out. It's a matter of time." American Home Shield wasn't gonna okay it 'cause they said that the technician said it was due to misuse. I was a little pissed because I set it on 68 degrees year-round. How do mess with a furnace? It's been going and making noise and rattling in there. I'm just waiting for it to go out but they're not gonna fix it probably and I have no idea why. I left because of that reason and went to some other one that was absolutely horrible so I went back to American Home Shield. I've never had a problem with them yet but I have to check to see what I'm covered on because I don't know if they cover washer and dryers.

Everything was great with Direct Service Overhead. It was for the garage door and they were able to get it fixed so it opened again. We've used American Home Shield several times for multiple appliances and so far, so good. Every time, the appliance has been fixed for the most part. A contractor came out for the heating and air conditioning unit, and they were not able to get it fully resolved. It was not something that they covered. They wanted to try and fix the old unit which would work for a short term but not a long term solution. We're kinda just waiting every day for it to break again. The heater has the potential to release carbon monoxide in the house if it breaks completely. The repair guys that came out said it's going to happen. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. I am not thrilled that American Home Shield is not willing to pay for the correct replacement upfront.

My son was doing his laundry and he came out with water on the floor. I put in a request for a plumber online. I said I needed a plumber for a washer leaking. At the time, I wasn't sure if it was the washer or the drain itself. An appliance repairman came out, looked at it and said my washing machine is fine. We started a cycle and as soon as we did, the water came back up through the discharge pipe. He said he'd notify American Home Shield and they would supply me with a plumber's name. The next day, a plumber called and set up an appointment. He came out, ran the snake through the drain, found the obstacle and knocked it out. We ran a cycle through the washing machine and that was fine. The gentleman was very polite and very prompt. He cleaned up the mess he made before he left. He left me with the receipt and a calling card in case something came up.

We thought we were leaking water from the icemaker. The tech came out, and it was simply a little clogged drain line that goes to the drain pan in the refrigerator. It took him all of about five minutes to fix it and clean it. This is the first time we've used American Home Shield. It was very easy and pleasant. I just wish there was a way that somebody could have told me on the phone, “Hey, did you check your drain?” I didn't even know there was a drain line there, but it cost me $125 to find out.
I'm a real estate broker, and I get all of my clients an American Home Shield plan for their homes. I'm very satisfied with their services. They've always treated my clients well. I have no complaints at all about them, other than maybe having that extra troubleshooting step to save somebody the deductible. They could lower their prices.

I called American Home Shield because there were three things that I needed to get done and it was all done under one deductible. You can't do that online. All Fix Service called the very next day so that was good. They came out on August 14th. The three repairs were an exhaust fan in the bathroom, a light over the kitchen sink, and a ceiling fan. The tech didn't take a while. He was able to replace the exhaust fan in the bathroom from a piece he had on his truck so that was perfect. As for the other two pieces, he determined that he needed to replace them. There's a process they go through to do that. They sent me choices of ceiling fans and I picked one. They came out on September 9th to replace the ceiling fan and the light over the sink.
The ceiling fan went great but the light over the sink was the wrong kind, which meant that it was gonna require some more research on their end for the appropriate part. They then had to come out and take care of the light over the sink. They brought the new part on October 13th because they were having trouble finding it. It took a while but I understood why. Everything works great now and we're very satisfied.

The pump was making a really bad noise and it was leaking. I went through the internet to submit the claim but it didn't give me very good options to select what the problem was. It just gave me the option of pump or plumbing and it didn't give me a way to describe what was going on. They could put in a box so we can put some information or pictures. After I sent in the claim, they said it would be a couple of days for the contractors to come out and they contacted me. Everything was good.

My air conditioner was no longer working. I submitted the claim on the phone because I don't like the online portal. It's easy on the phone. The technician who came out found that it was the connector had blown, so he just swapped the part out. The one I just had was by far the most favorable experience I've had. The previous two, I did not care for very much. Also, Home Shield is very technical. If you put on your issue that it's a ductwork, then the contractor will come out and say, "Your ducts are fine. I understand that there's a problem and that problem is with a different piece of equipment right over there, but it doesn't say that on this ticket, so I can't touch it."

The service with American Home Shield is beneficial and I will keep it. In the past, they came and if they needed to replace something, they would replace it. You didn't have to talk. We were satisfied that when the contractors come, they usually don’t take time. But now, it depends on what's going on. If it’s the AC, it’s a big problem. But when I had the problem with the sink, it was quick. The guy from Kintex Plumbing came out and he was professional. The sink in the kitchen was leaking and he had to replace the circular part of the sink. So, whatever was there before was worn. He cleaned up after himself and everything was perfect. Also, when they called to make the appointment, I was told to make sure that everyone had a mask in the house. They followed up and called me, and they came when they said they would. The man was good but I'm still waiting for the service with the stove. It’s with another contractor and it has not been solved.

Our recent claim with AHS was for a pipe leak under the house. I called American Home Shield on a Saturday morning. They assigned me a company that I called and they said, "We'll be out on Tuesday afternoon. You better turn your water off to the house. 'Cause otherwise, you'll flood out the whole thing." I didn't feel like that was appropriate because there was a leak of water under the house. I couldn't turn off the water because the water valve was broken. I didn't know how to turn it off for three days. I couldn't go for three days with no water in the whole house. There are five people in the house.
So I called American Home Shield. They said, "All right, so we're gonna assign a different company, Bear Plumbing. They'll call you by the end of the day on Saturday." That was Saturday afternoon and they didn't call me. So at 5 AM, I was very nervous. I couldn't sleep all night, because I couldn't get the water turned off and it was running under the house. So I called them starting at 5 o'clock in the morning on Sunday trying to get them to come out and they got angry with me. They never came out and they never called me.
I called American Home Shield on Monday morning and said, "They didn't send anyone. Can you please send another vendor? Do something because now it had been two more days and there's still running water and a lake of water into this house." So they called back there who said that they would come. They did and they sent a crew that afternoon at 1:00, who turned off the water so that the lake under the house could dry up. Then they came back like they said, at 1 o'clock on Tuesday and they fixed the pipe. They did a good job. They were very polite and they got jumped into action. They also explained what they were gonna do. I was very satisfied when they finally sent a crew. American Home Shield solved my problems in a very professional manner.

The lights in our rangehood were not working. It was intermittent and most of the time, it was always off. Every time we turned it on, it would shut off even though the power was on. A guy came out and said he could do it. He screwed in a light bulb and it worked. I told him that it would work but then it would shut off. He said that was because it got hot. But it never used to do that. If it was getting hot then there was a problem. It shouldn't heat up and have my light bulb turned off. We were cooking without a light bulb and it was dark under there. But the guy said it was working right then and he left. Sure enough, the light bulb went off and we couldn't turn it back on.
I called this in again and a Sears guy came out. But it turned out he got dispatched for the stove and not for the rangehood. Our stove burner kept clicking even if we had it lit and it was like it was gonna ignite. This second guy said he couldn't fix the stove and that we would need a GE guy to come out as he didn't have the right part. He was there for five minutes then left.
I called AHS to explain what he told me and I was upset because it wasted both my day. The girl there was really good. He called Sears again and a guy named Joseph came out. He was awesome. He diagnosed the problem and knew right away. We said the left side did the same flickering thing. He said, “It doesn't matter because the part I'm ordering is for both lights. It's a light for one single unit." But he replaced both lights. He even showed me where it burnt out and where the defective part was and told me why it was turning off. He just threw it away. He scheduled an appointment with us and came that next Friday and fixed the issue instantly. It took three visits for that rangehood.
I was ready to cancel with AHS. The first guy took forever to figure that out while the stovetop guy couldn't touch the rangehood. AHS sent out a GE guy and he knew exactly what was wrong and what to do. He fixed the stove instantly. It didn't need a special part. He knew what was wrong. It was those two guys, Joseph and the GE guy that saved AHS from me canceling with them. Those two guys were great.
I have another claim for my air conditioner and it’s still pending. I'm still upset. What happened was water was dripping so we had a pan underneath our condenser of the unit upstairs. A guy came in, went up there, and he said he had no access to it and didn't know why water was dripping. He was here for five minutes then left.
I called AHS to explain. I needed another guy to come out as the first guy didn't do anything. He didn't explain why and said he was gonna write up the note and call AHS. Accordingly, the guy's note just said he didn't have access to the attic. But I clarified that the guy went up to the attic and had full access to it. I wanted a second opinion. I was told that if AHS sent out for a second opinion and the diagnosis was the same, I was going to get charged another $75. I agreed because I knew it was not gonna be the same diagnosis. If I did, then it would be ridiculous.
A second guy came out and he explained what the problem was. We were using a bucket to capture the water so every time we wanted to turn on our AC, my husband had to go up to the attic and empty up the bucket. I could never turn the AC without my husband being home. AHS denied the claim because they said it was gonna cost some ridiculous amount of $6,300 to fix it. And they said AHS didn't cover it.
I shouldn't have to pay the $75 that AHS charged me for the two guys that came out and did nothing. It was a waste of my time. But AHS would not refund the $75. Right then I told AHS to cancel my policy once my two other pending claims, the stove and the rangetop, were fixed. I called my own air conditioner guy and he fixed the pan. He’s fixed my drain pipe too and that cost $300.

We just bought a home and when we were in the house for less than a week, we discovered water on the floor in front of the sink and we weren't sure at first where it was coming from, so we realized that the water was dripping from underneath the disposal. We caught any of the water in a reservoir so that it wouldn’t ruin our wood floors and damage the cabinetry until the plumbers could come out and repair it. Two gentlemen came out and they were very professional. They also wore masks. They took out the old disposal because it couldn't be repaired and they put a new one in and everything was great on that. This is the first claim that we've had with American Home Shield. But, we've since had a second issue that I'm not really pleased with.
This was with our microwave. If I heat anything that has any moisture, like a cup of tea or hot water, the electrical panel that is like the touchscreen fogs up with water, and then it starts going off and beeping and it goes haywire. I've had two companies come out and it's still not repaired. The first company came out and said I really can't put anything with any liquid in there and it's not intended to heat up anything like that. I said that’s exactly what a microwave is used for. You heat up a cup of coffee or heat up a cup of water to make tea. You steam broccoli, and the word "steam" in your microwave goes with the vegetables.
I called back after the first guy and said that they're just gonna repair it. This is not a good design because the fan that pulls the air out is right next to the electrical panel that has the computer and so all the moisture comes into the area. They said that I could call out and have a second opinion. I called AHS back, got a second opinion, and got someone else out. They said, “Well, ma'am, that's not what a microwave is for.” It's like talking to a wall.
The first company had ordered the parts but they didn't have a repair date until the 29th of this month. I've been a little over three weeks now without a microwave to be able to heat up any leftovers. What they need to do is they need to let me get a different microwave because this same problem is gonna keep happening over and over again because this particular microwave style is not meant to be heated up with a little bit of water in it.

When I called American Home Shield, they called the company that was gonna fix it. I called them back on Saturday and I kept on telling them that it was too cold. I wanted the job done because I have two kids in the house. They said the company that came before was gonna be here tomorrow and it’s gonna be repaired.

Submitting the claim was seamless. And then, Robert was very friendly and responsible. He always showed up exactly when he said he would. He was extraordinarily pleasant, and he took his time. We both forgot one of the things that I said I wanted, and he came back and after I remembered, “Oh, my goodness! You spent all this time on this, but don't forget, I wanted this,” he said, “Oh, yeah, that's right!” He came right back and fixed it. He did an amazing job. His assistant, Jason, also was very wonderful. I practically consider him a friend now.
The tech ended up not just rekeying, but replacing my locks, which my warranty only paid X amount, and I paid over that. But the end result is I am extraordinarily pleased with my doors, door handle and my locks system. The system that was put in is wonderful. I love it. Everything was great. I absolutely would recommend American Home Shield or anyone buying a new home in particular. When you buy a house, you don’t always know exactly everything that's wrong with it. The homeowner may not even know everything that's wrong with it. It is such peace of mind to have a warranty on a new home, so that when you get into a situation where something doesn't work, that is covered or at least part of it is covered. To know that you're protected is such a good feeling.

I live 30 minutes away from where I work, and they gave me a heads up, as I asked, when they were coming so that I could meet them. I appreciated that. When I got at the house, they were able to identify the problem.
Instead of fabricating the issue and making it more elaborate and more expensive, they told me exactly what it was. They did a repair for me and they fixed my unit within 30 minutes and had it going. Over the years, I've had some challenges with American Home Shield. They've taken away some services and went up on their price, but I was appreciative of this last service that I got. That definitely helped their case for me to renew my program for next year.

I got a brand-new unit, and then all of a sudden, it stopped working. It was the evaporator coil up in the attic. I alerted Home Shield online. That was the first time I did it online. It was super easy. Where I got contacted and the service scheduled was pretty quick. A-US was really good. I had a problem a week later, but they came right back out and fixed it. It was just a clog in the drain, like a float switch or something, but they fixed it pretty quick. I got my AC working. Home Shield did well. It's a good idea to have the warranty service.

It was a bad experience with American Home Shield. They're not doing a great job. I've been with them for at least seven years but they're not helping me. I've been dealing with them since August 6th. They sent the pool man and the pool man said, "It needs some electric work done so you gotta call the electrician." The electrician came after I spent $100 for them. They came and I wasn't home. I did not know they were coming. Then another time, I had to pay another $100 for them to come back. Between the pool and them, I spent $300. They came and the guy said he could not do anything. He said, "I'm gonna talk to American Home Shield and explain the situation." I didn’t hear anything for two weeks. I called and American Home Shield said there was a chewed up line from animals and they don't cover that. The electrician never told me that.
There are people that don't speak good English. They tell them one thing then they send something else. The other thing is they sent people and I paid for for the service but the service is still not done. If it can't be fixed, they have to replace it. They're not helping me on that either. People are gonna cancel if they have any of these problems. I cancelled my American Home Shield policy for two houses.

It took a few times for Atlas Residential Services to come in and check out the appliance for them to completely address that issue, but they did it effortlessly. They informed us every time they were about to come in at least a few days prior to schedule an appointment and they were communicative throughout the time. They finished the job in a matter of three visits, but it was a very wonderful experience. When we submitted this claim with AHS, we just filled out a form online, so it was easy for me and my dad to sit on the computer and fill it out. And the response time was relatively really quick as well, so no complaints there. They were really good.

I used to have Home Shield. When I purchased my home 15 years ago, the seller bought me the insurance and then it expired. Recently, I was searching for something and it popped up on the internet. I remembered Home Shield's policy, so I bought it. It's handy if you need the service 'cause with Covid-19, it's hard. 15 years later, I used Home Shield. I did everything online and then Cornerstone Construction Solutions came within 24 hours. I had blockages on the sink, and the water went really slow. They fixed it, but it still wasn't clear, so they came back one more time after a few days. It's fine now. Everything works.

Our air conditioning wasn't working. We had to call American Home Shield multiple times because it was not fixed the first time and it took us like a week to get it fixed. The first time, I did the claim online, and that was easy. It didn't get fixed though. We tried to call the air conditioning company that came out and they weren't answering. Then, I had to do a claim that it was still not a fixed thing online, which was fine. They said they weren't gonna be able to come out until five days. My husband had to call and that was not a good experience. The person he was talking to did not understand the situation and wasn't very willing to help out trying to get us like air conditioning any sooner. It was like 90 degrees here. They did finally get it fixed. It just took a little too long.
The first time the contractors came out, I don't know why it wasn't fixed but there was something about the board and then they sent out like a senior tech person and he was able to at least get it running even though we needed some part. It was running over the weekend, and then they came back on Monday. So, it ended up being fine. We just didn't like the fact that it wasn't fixed, and then we had to wait a day to submit the claim for American Home Shield to send someone out, and then they said that they couldn't be out for another two days.
We had a few experiences with AHS this spring. We had some plumbing stuff, and then we did have somebody come out for the air conditioning like the first time we ran it in the spring. The first time, with the air conditioning, was fine. They came out quickly and fixed it quickly. As for the plumbing, it was kinda the same thing. The contractor came out, left, I realized like within a day that it wasn't fixed, and they sent the same guy back out and he did fix it the second time. Filing the issues to AHS is really easy. They seem to dispatch quickly, but it tends to be a problem, at least for us, that it's not fixed the first time. Overall, the coverage is good. It seems like what I expect to be covered is covered.

American Home Shield sent us Reliable Mechanical and everything went well. Mike, the technician, was very professional and answered our questions. He did a lot better than the guys that came in the summer or spring for air condition. So, I was pleased this time. He had a mask on and he used a sanitizer. We were all cautious because we had our mask on too. AHS is okay but maybe we could have more than one choice. I don't know exactly how they select the people to do their service but prior to Mechanical coming out, they had somebody. Several years ago, they had another company who told me that they were from St. Joe, and they were a good company. Since I'm old, I like the same person. You kinda get to know that same company and the same people who come to your house and service. I kinda I like that a little better than you may get somebody different than the one you had prior.
I also had a dishwasher go out and the contractor came. The guy couldn't fix it, so I got a new one. I had a faucet in my kitchen that wasn't working and they replaced it. A contractor also came for a washer, but I didn't wanna do anything with it. But most of the time they've come out for the few services that I have had, I've been very pleased with AHS. I usually call the 800 number and request a service. It usually happens within three days. I haven't ever had to wait a month so, they provide good service.

My in-laws had an AHS warranty in Baltimore, Maryland and they said that with all the stuff that we have in our house, we should get it. The house was built in 2007 and both of the AC units were approximately 12 years old. So, we got the warranty back in March and when we turned our AC on in June, we were having problems. We went on their website, opened up a ticket, and filled out the little form. Within a little bit, we got an email confirmation that we opened the ticket and I got a phone call. It was handled so incredibly well that it's been painless.
But at the beginning, we had a few issues because the reps we talked to were not serviced out of America. The people answering the phone were in Indonesia and I didn't mind that at all. But there was a little hiccup in the system at one point. Despite that, they were unbelievably friendly, answered every question we had, and got the services that we needed. But I had a personal issue with one of the service providers in our area and I did not see eye-to-eye ever with that company. So they wouldn't work with us and we wouldn't work with them. AHS then found us the Now Service Pros out of Chesapeake, Ohio. They were over an hour away and they came up to the house each time, investigated the problems, determined that the hardware was dying, and made things happen. They ordered everything through American Home Shield and handled things.
To replace one of those heat pumps alone would've been $6,000 or $7,000 and I replaced two. Then, the air handler in my attic crapped out. So, they replaced two AC units and an air handler. If I had to pay for that out of pocket, it would've been close to $30,000. But I've spent only $1,800 this year. So if you have a high price ticket item in your life, like a refrigerator or washer and dryer, something that costs more than $1,000 to replace, spending $70 a month to have an insurance that they're gonna take care of it is a no-brainer.
This became apparently clear to us this year. It's essentially like having health insurance. So if you get cancer, you're not paying hundreds of thousands of dollars out of pocket. All in all, I have been blown away with every bit of the experience we had with AHS and I have posted on social media about it. We have a very large following online and I'm sure that we've had multiple people sign up for their services just because we've shared it on multiple channels on social media.

This is my wife and myself’s first house that we've ever bought. We wanna make sure we protect our investment and it always maintains a great value throughout the years. We ended up taking on American Home Shield and they've been the greatest. They were very responsive when I said that my dishwasher was having issues. It happened on a weekend, so naturally, it took a couple days longer, but Ryan, from Big Bend, was already out there within 48 hours after getting the work order. He was very professional and he was clean, neat, and picked up after himself.
I have all-white oak hardwood floors and he made sure to lay down some blankets so he didn't scrap up the floors. He was very nice, polite, informative and a great person. His customer service was second to none and the communication was very good. He constantly told me, “Hey look. I'm really sorry. It's just taking a little bit longer on this one particular part.” He replaced both of the boards in my GE dishwasher, and it's been up and running. I've had no issues since. Big Bend Appliance was a very good company and I had a phenomenal experience with Ryan.
So far, American Home Shield has been really good. I'm very glad. As long as they continue up with their customer service, then we’ll continue to be their customer. I have that peace of mind just making one phone call, paying 75 bucks, and right up next to you, if I need to get something replaced, it ends up getting replaced. Generally, everything so far has been fast, and great customer service on both ends. I've already recommended American Home Shield on several occasions to employees that I have at work as well. Some of them have looked into it. One of my other employees and I have talked about it together too.

There were two claims. One of them was the oven that wouldn't ignite. Authorized Appliance came out and fixed it and that was good. The second one was the washing machine and that one was a bit more of a problem. We had to wait a week and a half for somebody to come out. We had to use a laundromat in the meantime while we were waiting. Then when the Electrolux guy came out, he wouldn't fix it. Coincidentally, it was the same day as the oven guy. The oven guy said that he could have fixed that straight away. But it was a different company that American Home Shield had dispatched.
My perspective is it seems like it's easy apart from when it's not. It depends on the vendor that's being used, especially with the washing machine, I could have just gone out and bought another one. But because I had the coverage, I might as well use it. However, we ended up not having a washing machine for two weeks. So, with a toddler and we've got a baby on the way as well, it wasn't ideal. But then when we had an issue with the air conditioning, it was leaking, the guy came out quickly, and it wasn't a big thing.

For a claim we had, APC Plumbing came out and they were nice people. But they didn't really do a lot. They said I had some water damage around the tub where the molding is. I was told I would have to go through my homeowners’ insurance and that would be $2,400, which I can't afford. It was weird because they put this fixture on upside down so I had to call them back. It's kind of a mess. I really don't know if I want them to come out again.
The fixture works but not really well. It wasn't a good fix. I have an older fixture and they did not change it. And the inside of the fixture is rotted. You'd think they would change the rubber part at least so I don't have any more water damage. It's gonna leak again. But they said that was not their problem. My daughter put a little caulking around it.
I'm also not really happy with American Home Shield. They kinda lied to me. I have called them because they owe me money, which they said they were gonna return to me for a washer that they told me to go buy because they couldn’t replace it for months. It's been since June that they promised me the reimbursement. We have children in the household and I can't be without a washer because I have a cane. I'm 74 and I can't go to the laundromat. I am really upset with American Home Shield right now. I've done everything I'm supposed to do and nobody's done what they're supposed to do. I've faxed papers to them as well as letters with the receipts that I paid. I've also written to them and I've never heard back. I waited on the phone for an hour. I work part-time to keep my household running. It's just a big joke. I would not recommend American Home Shield anymore, ever.

My husband and I were out of the house for a few hours on the 11th. When we came home, our kitchen was flooded and there was water coming from the ceiling. The last time we used the toilet upstairs, it didn't catch so it kept overflowing from the bowl. We were gone for three and a half hours and that was long enough for the master bathroom, the vanity area, the bedroom, the kitchen, the dining room, the garage, and the closet in one of the guest bedrooms to be damaged by water.
American Home Shield sent Roberson Plumbing. The tech was quick and very professional. He was in and out really quickly so it didn't seem like it was that big of an issue. The tech repaired and replaced the entire pump or the valve as well as the flusher. He reinstalled a brand new setup inside. Unfortunately, the plumbing problems led to other issues. Now, there are areas of our house that are being ripped out because of water damage. We ended up calling a separate company. American Home Shield has good service and has been very beneficial. They helped us out a lot and they got somebody out the next day. We were able to locate the source of the problem and get it fixed as quickly as possible. That way, it wouldn't happen again in the future.

The service representatives through the hotline are extremely limited; they can only take a credit card number and generate a work order. If there is an issue with the contractor, service response, repair requirements, etc. they cannot help you. There is no way to directly reach the required team, which means as customers we are at the mercy of their internal processes and how effectively they do or do not communicate and manage hand offs in processes.
I had a plumbing issue that required special equipment, and they cancelled the work order because none of their suppliers had the equipment rather than seeking a new supplier with the required equipment even though they have a special team dedicated to sourcing specialized suppliers and cutting one time POs. I had to call half a dozen times, on hold for long periods of time followed by disconnections, etc. They also cancelled a work order on my range hood simply because the technician couldn't find a model number on the appliance. I was extremely dissatisfied with this home warranty provider.

Updated on 10/23/2020: I wrote a review several days ago detailing my underwhelming experience with our American Home Shield warranty. I received an email shortly after my review was published from a company spokesperson asking to talk about my experience. I replied to their message stating that I would gladly speak with them. That was 3 days ago, and I have not received any further communication. I understand there can be delays and do not expect immediate responses, but the fact they reached out to me so quickly after the review and then have not responded back since is telling of their customer service. As I said in my last review. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere.
Original Review: Working through AHS for warranty claims has been slow, but steady progress has always been made. We have had multiple issues with an older A/C unit at the house we just purchased and have used AHS for resolution. The latest visit from the tech told us what we did not want to hear which was a need to replace both the outside unit along with air handling unit inside. We expected that some portion of the replacement cost would not be covered, but we are now being told they will not cover anything "Installed under the roof, within the confines of the structural walls, and on or above the main foundation of the home"... ALL A/C UNITS ARE PLACED OUTSIDE OF THE STRUCTURAL WALLS OF THE HOME!!! This is such obvious and purposeful wording to keep from replacing the main component to and A/C unit.
AHS touts a "No Cap on central AC units or electric heat pumps" for their coverage limit. This is PURPOSEFULLY MISLEADING. That "No Cap" claim is pretty meaningless when we are still on the hook for $5500+. When the service to add Freon was not covered on our first service request ($700), I chalked that up to bad luck and probably what most home warranties would do. However, after this latest revelation it is clear that this company is more focused on how not to pay out for their customers rather than their customer's satisfaction. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I have been told by multiple service companies that they will not work with AHS because of their service. Now, I understand why. Please do yourselves a favor and steer clear of this company.
I hate to hear about your most recent experience to have the air conditioner system replaced. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

The 2nd tech called the next day and informed me of the same thing. We called AHS everyday and they told us they would call us within 24 hours. That never happened. I spoke to LG and they said since Sears purchased this from LG, Sears is responsible for service. They are the only authorized repair facilities that LG will sell their parts to. Sears told me the next available appointment was 11/25/20. Unacceptable!
Every time we called AHS, we had to explain this to them. Every time all we would get was they would send this to the dispatch team and they would call us back. That also never happened. To say was the same thing and I asked for escalation. Even then it was like starting all over again. They said to look for a 3rd party that could come. I told them I have already done that calling numerous repair techs and got the same answer every time. AHS can't understand that. Today I spent 2 hours 16 min and 8 seconds on the phone with them, mostly on hold or repeating to them what was already said. I asked to be transferred to some at the home office in Memphis and they would not do that. That seemed to be trained well and stick to the script given to them, hoping we just go away. They have no problem withdrawing $68.75 from my bank account every month like clock work. This issue is still unresolved. Buyer beware of this company.

That was what was wrong with the dishwasher. He said there was nothing wrong with the dishwasher.
I called American Home Shield when I filed the claim, and the rep was okay. She told me within a few days, someone would be calling me. The people from the company that came out called me. I told the first guy that was here that the dishwasher wasn’t running. He said, “Oh, we have to order a part.” They never came out first to see. He said, “Once we get the part in, then we’ll come out.” Once they got the part in, he came out. But then when he came out, he said he didn’t need it because nothing was wrong with it, but the garbage disposal. The garbage disposal had gotten fixed prior to him coming out. I'm really pleased with American Home Shield, especially with the part that if anything goes wrong, they come out, and if they can't fix it, they may replace it. That's excellent. I’m not sure if that’s the way the whole company is going now, or if it was just that AHS had this customer for a year and he was able to talk to someone local who pretty much understood everything he was asking and saying. It can be a little frustrating because sometimes there’s a cultural gap or a language gap with the understanding and the interpretation of what the person is saying.
It seemed like American Home Shield's documents weren't all in-line in the system where they knew what was going on, and I didn't have to explain it to them over and over again. Sometimes they don't have the information quite right or straight. AHS should probably send the company they sent out what they charge for, ‘cause sometimes it appears that maybe they are charged for things that the company didn't actually do. Some of the information doesn't seem to come on up sometimes over the last several years. They should follow through more on something like that, call the customer and ask how everything went. But they pretty much give an automated thing to fill out and sometimes there are no gray areas.
I’ll just do what I need to do in the future as far as whether I will continue my contract or not. I have to weigh what I have spent out of my pocket, what I’ve spent for my monthly bill for the companies, and what it would have been if I just hired people myself to make the repairs. With my recent claim, Brick Street Plumbing came out to fix the top of one sink that was leaking around the fixture as well as the stopper fixtures underneath the other sink.

When my dishwasher was bad, American Home Shield sent somebody right way. The process was a little longer, but they've been very good to me. I've been with them five years and I don't regret it a bit. I even considered putting my electronics in the insurance. People also need to understand that the COVID affects all of us. Apart from that, the way the professional behaved and the way he did the inspection was great. For an old woman, he was respectful. He was wonderful.

I called AHS to submit a claim for my dryer, then a tech came out and said that the belts were broken. I had to wait four days for them to get the parts in because he said that Maytag dryers don't break a whole lot, so he had to order. Then he came back, put the things in, and the dryer has been working since then. He was really nice.
Last November, AHS sent out a plumbing company and two brothers came out. The issue was with my garbage disposal and at the time, I had the garage door open as well as all the windows. I have Poms and there's a baby fence, so they can't get in the kitchen. But one of the techs said that he was allergic to dogs, so I told him not to do the service. He just stood there looking like a statue and he didn't do anything. I've had AHS for 16 years and that was the first time that I had them chose someone for me And I told them that they were wrong in choosing that person. I also always tell them that I get to choose the person who's supposed to come out.
When the techs left, one of them said he'd be back after the holiday because I got a leak. But he didn't say how bad the leak was and eventually, that leak totally destroyed the cabinet. Then, when he called back, he said he could not come back because that house is unlivable since I had a dog. He was supposed to do the faucets but he never did the faucets. It also turned out that the leaking was that bad because he forgot to put a seal in the garbage disposal. I had a bucket under there and it kept running over. So naturally, the wood gave way.
It cost 700 and some dollars for a different plumber to fix some faucets as well as the garbage disposal, and to rebuild the cabinet. AHS told me that they would reimburse me for that because I had to go down and buy the faucets. But then, I talked to a man on the phone who said said that they would only reimburse me $130. But the process cost more than that. I got faucets that were on sale though and they were 139. But I could not find my receipt, so I never got the reimbursement.
I had another plumbing claim and this time, I asked if the guys that AHS was sending out were allergic to dogs. I also told them that they shouldn't be sending Hartman. That's the same one who destroyed all my cabinet. Someone needs to do something about that guy but I could never find out who to report it to. In the end, the plumber that AHS sent for this other claim was perfect. You couldn't ask for better plumbers. All in all, I love AHS and I've had seven of my friends sign up with them.

Sometimes, you're on hold for an hour to an hour and a half waiting to talk to somebody, and then get disconnected, and talk to somebody in a foreign land God knows where. The locksmith just said, “Send us some photos of the locks,” and I did. They didn't need a whole lot of direction. They came and did it. The only concern that I have was about billing. They did send a paper copy, but it seemed to come after the online notification was sent, and I'd already paid it. That was the only little hiccup. My recent claim was for a refrigerator. It was an easy process as far as submitting. The first guy that came didn't know what it could be, so he forward it to someone else. And then the second company that came out seemed to know what it could be and they tried that. Unfortunately, that didn't work because I ended up getting a replacement, but at least they were familiar with it. Any time I had a question and had to call in about something, even when the first guy came and they had to send someone out, Home Shield was very informative. I had two electrical issues addressed. The contractor was awesome. He was distancing himself and he had a mask on, which was crucial to us. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to do the job. Because he was, we allowed him access to the areas of the house that he needed to do. He had to do some relocating of stuff and he did that. He left and he cleaned up pretty good so that I was able to finish the aesthetics of it myself. He replaced the doorbell and installed an entire new system because of problems with the transformer, the chime as well as the bell at the door.
I'm an electrical engineer by trade. I could've done it, but I just did not have the time, plus I have the warranty. He came out, did a very thorough analysis, and then he concluded that I need to replace the chime and the transformer. He said, "Well, the only other thing left is the doorbell." Apparently, it came with a kit, so he replaced the whole thing. He looked at all three of those major components. Anything else is just wiring. He was quick, timely and very courteous. The parts that he removed, he left them and told me where they were as he was completing the work.
Back in July, we discovered that there was a lapse in my coverage, and apparently, there were emails that were supposedly sent to me. I never saw the email, so I was shocked when I called in and American Home Shield told me that my insurance had lapsed. I was extremely upset about that. Someone should've followed up before they just cut it. I didn't feel like that was right. When somebody keeps something like this for more than five years, there's a reason why they do that. No one ever called me because I would've never let this happen. Other than that, I would recommend American Home Shield and I have recommended them. My brother has warranties with them because of my recommendation.

We have two furnaces and we'd gotten both of them maintained. One of them went out on us to where it was said it's not useful. When we tried to put the second one on, we were smelling burnt plastic after the guy who maintained it had left. I had to put in another service call with American Home Shield because that one was closed. That was when Air First Mechanical came over. He said the guy forgot to plug in something that initiates the engine. He plugged it in and said I was all good. We paid $125 for this guy to come over here and fix this thing where the first guy messed up and I had reported that to American Home Shield. I told them I don't care which fee gets taken away but we shouldn't have to pay a second fee for somebody else's mistake.
I wish that we could be consistent with the same person looking. One company came and did the maintenance. Another guy came and checked on the furnace that the first company said shouldn't be in service. Then we had a third guy come because the other furnace wasn't working after that second guy had left. Now we've got a fourth guy here that's installing the furnace. I would much rather have one consistent person that knows it instead of having to have so many service calls be at the house then go through all the things that you have to go through.

The main drain line was clogged so I submitted a claim with AHS. The contractor that AHS sent had to snake it from a toilet in the main level, and he snaked 90 feet. He found out the issue. He got it fixed and done. Like with cleaning out a drain line, I was beyond surprised that it was not dirty at all when he left. Definitely, I'm very happy with AHS, especially with this plumbing issue. Because I was assigned another plumber who couldn't make it early. Then, they were able to find another service provider who could come as early as possible on Monday ‘cause with a clogged main drain line, I couldn't really use any water in the house. The first time Rapp’s Heating and AC came out in June, it was for my hot water heater. The guy needed a part so he had to find it. It took him a week each time to come out. He brought the part back out and put it on. But I don't think it did everything it should have done when he put it on. Two weeks ago as I would come in the back gate, I’d get to a certain point where I would smell gas. I kinda brushed it off. Maybe gas was coming from next door ‘cause I couldn't have a gas leak. After a couple of days of doing that, I stopped right by the vent and I could smell the gas coming out of it. That was when I called the electric company and they came out, turned the gas off and said I need to get it fixed before I could turn it back on. It was coming from the end where the hot water heater was.
I called back to Rapp’s then I had to call American Home Shield because at that point, it was over 60 days. The first lady I talked to sent them right back out. When he put the tape on, he shoulda checked every part of the hot water heater to make sure. I had to pay another $100 for them to come out and test the line to find the gas leak on the hot water heater and fix it. Rapp’s came out and the guy said they couldn't find anything. I'm always over the technicians shoulder when they come around. They showed me the thing that they used to gauge and how they put it on. They have to wait to see if the gauge is gonna move and left the gauge here. They were good. I’ve recommend American Home Shield to several people.

We have a whole boiler in the house for our heating and the pump that's responsible for circulating the heated water throughout the radiators of the house stopped working. It was making a really loud sound. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was pretty painless. I actually put the wrong thing, to begin with. I was kinda in a panic because it was getting cold outside. So I put furnace instead of boiler when I submitted a ticket. It took like two seconds to do that. When the company called me not too long after, they asked me what was wrong, and they said, “Oh, that's a boiler. That's not us.” So then, they got me set up with another company. It was my fault, but they got us all straightened out.
The tech that came out guy was very thorough. He even wiped the doorknob clean after he was done. He got the job done in one day. My experience in the past other places have been like, “Oh, okay, we got to order the part. It’ll be in in about a week, and you got to put another ticket. Then, we’ll be out in two weeks.” But this guy went down the street to find the part, he came back, and the whole job was done within an hour.

He was very thorough and professional. I appreciated that especially with COVID going on.
The company that came out to bring my replacement cooktop was not able to disconnect the original one as it was hardwired. They left the replacement and told me that I would have to call somebody else. I reached out to AHS and they said they would send out to install the cooktop for me. Initially, I contacted American Home Shield because the washer wasn't starting. Normally, my husband does the washing, but he passed. I needed the washer because so many people were coming to the house staying with me that I was running out of towels. I didn't even know how to use it and my relatives were trying to figure it out. That's when I figured out something was wrong with the washer. I submitted a request for warranty work, and then someone came out and it wasn't fixed. I called back again, but this time, I had to pay the service fee again because it was greater than 30 days. I asked for someone else instead of the same company that they usually send, so they sent Excel.
Excel was excellent. My washer would work well, and then it would stop working, and then it would work and stop again. The technician explained everything to me that was going wrong with my washer. He said that it would work not here and there because the computer board was going. He stated that American Home Shield would get in touch with me to let me know the rest. I didn't hear back from them and I called the company. They said that the part was going to take a long while to come in and to contact American Home Shield, which I did. American Home Shield stated that the part was going to take too long for them to wait, so they decided to issue me a new washer, which I was elated.
I had just buried my husband, so I told the person that I wasn't in the right mindset to decide on which washer to get. Mentally, I wasn't there. She was like, "I love shopping." I was like, "I used to also." She sent me five washers that she decided on, but on the page, there were 25 that you could pick. What I was sent was the one that they thought was best from what I had and then the other choices. The person told me to take my time to pick. When I got in a better mindset, having a good day, I looked at everything. I liked the one that she picked, so I decided to pick that.
The only problem that I'm having is that the delivery and I don't coincide with one another. I work and don't get home till 4:00, so I missed them this past Friday when the new washer was being delivered. Normally, my husband and I work alternate shifts. He is usually the one that everything comes to and I'm usually afterwards. Apart from that, everything was very smooth, especially in my emotional state.
I've been using American Home Shield before and if there was an issue, it's so hard to get in touch with them claims-wise. It's not just during COVID. I work long hours, so it's always difficult to get in touch with someone after 5:00. However, they've always called back and they weren't difficult. This time, it was an unbelievable amount of effort that they did. I told them, "I need a washer. People are here. I can only wash certain times. I don't know what to do." and they helped me. They didn't say, "Well, call back whenever you're able to." They were more emotionally connected to me than some of my family members were. They helped me so much get through this.

The dryer got a new drum on the inside, and the washer eventually got picked up and taken to the shop. Then, they decided that it wasn't any good anymore. The transmission went out and there was a delay in letting us know what was going on. But we finally got a new washer. The claims process was good and the biggest issue was probably the delay in between because it took a month to get this all resolved. We had a dryer but no washer. There was one other claim I made with American Home Shield in the six months I’ve been with them. The air conditioning had an issue and they took care of that right away. I usually do my claims online. But because I wanted to request a certain company that has worked on our air conditioner in the past, I went ahead and called Home Shield in order to do that. The tech came out. The air conditioner went out on a Sunday, and he was out here on Monday afternoon. He went ahead and described to us what happened. It was basically a tubing inside of the compressor. Two parts of the tubing touch each other and they wear each other out. There was a hole, and all of the coolant had escaped. That's why there was no cold air coming out of it. Then they went ahead and repaired it, and they refilled the unit with the coolant.
Home Shield has always been good with us and upheld their end of the bargain, a few times, of the contract. What was hard on the air conditioner, they only paid $10 for each pound of the refrigerant, and that stuff is very expensive. We had to pay $55 per pound, times 14, because it took 14 gallons of it. That was $750, plus our $100 deductible. That part gets pricey.
I told the contractor, "The reason why we keep this insurance, for the most part, is in case that compressor goes out, I know, they're very expensive.” He said, "Well, what's hard is that they keep repairing it. And as long as you can get parts for it, in this case, it was a repair. They could do welding. The compressor is old. So it rattles a lot, You'll have a lot of vibration. So it'll probably happen again. They'll just kinda keep you going like that. So it's something you have to almost expect every summer to have to pay one big bill just for refrigerant."
We had our oven and microwave go out last fall. Home Shield was very good. They got someone out. They couldn't find parts to them, so we got new appliances. It was $100 deductible and it included both appliances because they went out at the same time. I had to pay more for the oven only because in order to find one that fit our opening, and then I decided I wanted to upgrade on the oven, so I paid the difference between the brand that would fit in our openings, and then also for the upgrade. Because now, I have a convection oven whereas before, I just had a conventional baking oven.

My recent claim with American Home Shield sucks. I had a plumbing problem and it took a long time before they got a plumber out there to look at it. When the plumber finally got out there, he did fix it. And I had a gas leak and for some reason, American Home Shield covered a portion of the bill but didn't cover the entire bill. So, I'm not happy with it. It's on a rental property and I usually buy these policies for the tenants. I tell the tenants that if anything goes wrong, just call the AHS and it's covered. I was looking that I'd be covered for all these things. But it appears as if we're not covered for some of these items.

American Home Shield is a horrible waste of money. We had to pay $75 for somebody come and look at our air conditioner. We thought it needed to get replaced, but the guy just put in some new Freon. He was very pleasant and professional, but I had to pay him 140 bucks for the Freon. Now our oven doesn't work, and I almost hesitate to call and waste 75 bucks. There's also no telling how much I'm gonna have to pay to get my oven fixed, which means it's not covered. I'm a real estate agent and I would never sell anybody any kind of appliance protection. It's complete waste.
I had a policy several years ago as well and my stepson talked me into it this time. He said that the house is 19 years old and that I ought to get a policy. I told him that I thought they were a waste, but he said that I really should get it. Right now, I've had American Home Shield for two months and it came out exactly like I remembered it the last time. Nothing's changed except the price you have to pay people to come out to charge you more money.

"The water heater's in. We'll come out and put it up." They came out to do that.
A couple of days later, I got a thing from Home Shield saying I was delinquent on a service call payment, but disregard if I've already paid it. I've paid the service call in advance when I did the service call. I kept getting emails yesterday. That's when I called and talked to somebody overseas. I tried calling last night to speak to somebody and I got somebody with a very thick accent. It sounded like they understood. But they said that Walston did two separate work orders, one for the pressure thing and one for the hot water heater. It's a separate work order because they came out twice. I was like, "But they didn't tell me that and the water heater was the initial find. They just checked some stuff while they was out there and found that." The rep said, "Well, I will call them and see what we can do."
I've had Home Shield before. My landlord before I bought this house had Home Shield. This was one work order. This was one claim or whatever. They didn't tell me, "Oh, we're gonna do it for another one." I'm not gonna pay a second one when the initial thing they found is what they fixed. Everything was already done and fixed before all this came about where it said I was delinquent. It said, "Disregard if you've already paid it." They had already installed everything because it took a little less than a week for the hot water to come in. So, from the initial time they came out there, it was a week, and everything was fixed. A new hot water heater. The actual fixing of everything was good. Trying to charge me for two different claims was not good. I'd like to stay with Home Shield. I plan on putting my father-in-law's property and signing up for something else. But if this is the way Home Shield is going now, it has to get straightened out or I will not renew.

I thought I had a slab leak, but it winded up being a leak from the washer and dryer to the bow to the ice maker of the refrigerator and caused the secondary damage there. It was taken care of. The tech fixed the problem. Now, I'm just dealing with the secondary damage, which I'll have to go through my homeowner's insurance and take care of that because there's a lot of damage that was done. It had been leaking for a while until it became visible.
Calling American Home Shield in general is difficult. The reps are working from home and half of the reps are foreigners. Most of them that I've called are from the Philippines, and they don't speak very good English, which makes things very difficult. I was charged $200 instead of $100, but they credited the account back and made sure that that was taken care of. Still, it's a headache calling them. If I didn't need it, I wouldn't have it. I've dropped them before, and then I took them back on again. And now, I'm gonna be searching for someone else because their service is really bad as far as customer service. I would not recommend anybody to them.

The contractor came out but they couldn't do anything, and I couldn't reach American Home Shield back. It took me forever. But since then, American Home Shield has reached out to me and they did cover the plumbing that was done by Lapin. It was done shortly afterwards because they had to come and clean out the lines. They used the cleanouts that were on the side of the house.
His and Hers came out for the shower but they couldn't fix it. The tech told me it wasn't covered because there was a part broken or missing in the wall. When he told me it was not covered, I could not reach American Home Shield. After being on hold for over an hour, I got somebody and explained to them how was I supposed to know something was missing in the wall, then I got disconnected. Another hour and a half on hold, and the phone lines went dead at 8:00. I was not a happy camper. But the His and Hers did come back and fix it at a cost of $285 on myself. They had to replace something in the wall that had to do with the turning of the handle.
I've called American Home Shield four times and they've covered one thing. To me, it ain't worth the paper it's written on. I told American Home Shield that their product was worthless and it was a waste of somebody's money. I should not have to jump through the hoops that I've had to jump through to get service. But we have it and we'll see how it goes. We'll just prepare that everything that has to be fixed will cost me $285 and $75 to American Home Shield for them to tell me it’s not covered.

I had a claim on my refrigerator but nobody ever came out to service me. So, I'm very unhappy with Home Shield. Over a month or so ago, I had an initial call which was missed. And then, the contractor texted me and said, "This is such and such with whoever," and that was it. Then, I called the number, and then he texted back and said, "I will have to call you later." But then, he never called me. I texted, "When will I hear from you?" I called again but I never received any texts or calls. And the situation with our refrigerator is ongoing. I tried to call four times to request the supervisor to call me, all of which I was told I would have one call me, and then I have yet to hear from anybody.
We've had our HVAC replaced. We had an initial service request for that, and then Home Shield put somebody out. We just purchased the house and with the age of the house, which is 1983, it's gonna limp along. The amount of money we had to put into it and the amount that Home Shield was probably not a whole lot because there was whatever they were gonna do. And then, it was just going to be an ongoing problem. So, we elected to replace it. And then I, again, have called for a supervisor to call me to see what our options were for some type of reimbursement, but I haven't received any phone calls and we have received nothing from them.
I replaced the whole unit. Their whole thing is, "We'll repair or replace if it can't be repaired." It's a unit from 1983 that was original for the house and I'm told from professionals, "You're just gonna let this along, it's gonna be very costly. It needs to be replaced." And then, of course, they're not gonna replace it because, "It can be repaired," technically. And then, in another few months, when all the Freon leaks out again and then I have to pay a couple thousand dollars to have it put in because they don't cover that, it's frustrating. Find another company. Home Shield is the worst I've ever dealt with.

The first time the contractor came out, they didn't know what part was broken or wasn't working right. They diagnosed it and ended up having to order a couple parts that took about a week to get. Then they came back and replaced them, and everything is fine. The whole process with American Home Shield is pretty efficient. You go online and tell them exactly the piece of equipment, what brand it is and model, then they assign a contractor in your area. That contractor comes out and fixes it or orders part then comes back and fixes it.
I've been using American Home Shield for six years. We bought an older home so they came in very handy the first two years when things were breaking. We've had real good experience with them. It's much better now that they have a website. The first couple of years, you had to call and talk to someone and you always got put on hold forever. But it's pretty quick now. It's about a minute, minute and a half, and you got a contractor coming.

American Home Shield has electronic instruction. The machine responds and we get frustrated. Maybe I have an accent that is too thick because English is not my first language. But it could not recognize my question. My husband got frustrated in that as well. But we were able to set up the appointment. They offered some confirmation number but it was read so fast. It was hard for us to write it down. So, the auto response system of AHS can be more user-friendly.
The first time we made the request for the plumbing issue was a couple of weeks ago and then, the issues happened again. So we requested for the second time. Then I noticed that 5 Star Home Services did not show up to our home but it showed that they completed the job on October 20th. So, I was surprised. I requested them to come in again. It was the third time I’ve requested and they did not call. So, I called back.
The rep said that the issues were not covered by the insurance, so they could not fix it. And I got unhappy because I told them that it was fine but they should call me to let me know that the problem was not being covered. They should not submit it as completed because that's false. They should also call me to let me know how much it would be from my pocket so I can budget. And maybe, I can still pay for it instead of the problem still being there. It was bad judgment on the service part. My husband found local plumbers who came to help. So, the issues have been resolved, but we're not happy that the plumbers decided to handle the case in that way.

What I was told was I needed to get a contractor to remove the tiles in the shower so that they could have access. Then he could come out and make the repair and I would get a contractor to come out and put the tiles back. In this particular instance, what I'm gonna opt to do is hire my own contractor to come in and do it all. That way, I don't have to meet somebody at my house three different times and take off work. But with the two air conditioner calls, I was pleased with American Home Shield.

When I purchased the home, the previous homeowner provided Home Shield and I continued the policy. So far, they have been great. The only thing that I would have to complain about was that I had to request the service for the same issue three different times. I had paid the $75 fee and the first plumber that came out told me that I would have to knock down walls and all this stuff. When I called 30 days later to say that I was ready, they stated that because it was beyond 30 days, they wouldn't cover and I would have to pay again. Nobody ever advised me that once I open a claim, I only have 30 days to actually go through with it. I was disappointed with that. I paid the $75 deductible again.
They sent out a second plumber and that plumber said there was no leak and that there was no issue. He said the issue seemed to be resolved, which I didn't understand. But I couldn't physically see water dripping anymore. The third time a contractor came out, they said there is a problem and told me what was going on. I lost out on three separate deductibles for the same issue for lack of communication, which I shouldn't have. But the tech from Barker Services was great. He had to replace two parts of the drain pipes and he was very professional.

I had American Home Shield from 2003 on then I dropped it one little while and I picked it right back up. I just like the way they service, the way they take care of everything. But I figured if American Home Shield been around longest they've been around, because my daughter had it before I did and a couple of neighbors had it, I figured it had to be worthwhile. The only thing I hate is when I try to get through on the phone, I have a long wait time, like an hour and some. Then sometimes they drop the call. While on hold, it goes into busy and then the phone is ringing busy and I'm not with them anymore. But the last two times I had to call them, I didn't even have that problem.
When I had an air conditioner problem, American Home Shield sent Fast Response, which did a beautiful job. Fast Response extended to me a free heat check-up, an inspection for the winter, which they came out and did that. But the tech pointed out to me that I wasn't getting enough gas in the thing of the furnace. He showed it to me and I believed it. Then they came right back and repaired it and everything was fine. I'm pleased with him.

It's really easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield. They're usually right on top of things. They usually will assign somebody right away then kind of follow through with it. It's been really good up until this last time when I called for a water leak. That was the first time I've had a problem with somebody they assigned to come and do the work. The plumber that they used is only a part-time person. He called me on a Sunday and said he would be out but he didn't show up. He called on Monday but didn't show up. I called him on Tuesday but he didn't show up. So I called American Home Shield. Luckily, it wasn't as big a problem as it could have been. I didn't have a problem filing a claim with American Home Shield. It's easy. And as far as the contractors, everybody has been super nice. I work in customer service myself, so I'm not one to argue with somebody and say, "You have to do this." I understand there are terms and conditions for everything and I've never had a problem with anybody being rude.
Recently, the spring from our door was broken and the repairman came out and replaced it, but I was still out around $425 that I ended up having to pay out of pocket. I've also had some issues in the past. The most difficult one was when I filed a claim for my dishwasher. I had at least two different companies come out because nobody could figure out what was wrong. They would come, say that it was fixed, and then it really wasn't. I had to fight with AHS because they wanted to charge me a $200 service fee when it was for the same problem and because two different companies came out.
And then, with my AC unit back in June, the company that AHS sent out came out, gave us a quote, but we didn't end up going with them because they were not gonna be able to fix our AC until about three and a half weeks later. They never offered any kind of temporary unit for us to use and we didn't know to ask for any either. We ended up going with a separate company that we found ourselves and AHS didn't really pay for anything other than that. I know they said that they were gonna be sending over possibly a refund because I sent proof of the whole replacement that we did. We ended up paying over $6,000, but they were talking about only crediting me back $391. I haven't even gotten a response saying that that was actually going to be done. That was just what they quoted me before I sent over my proof of payment that I made.
Then, when I called for my garage door opener, AHS again didn't pay anything for that and I was still out the $100 service fee. It's just being repetitive. We've been with AHS for some time already and it seems like, lately, nothing's really being covered. At this point, we're looking to possibly cancel because we're paying out of pocket and we're paying a monthly fee and AHS is not really covering anything. It's not really working out for us and I'm not really happy right now.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

I had an electrical issue that kept causing my circuit breaker to short. Calling the claim in was not as easy as I would like because Home Shield uses an automated system. Most things are automated now. Truly rarely do you call and get a live person when you first call an institution. But it seems like the system always has a hard time understanding me. Most people can understand me when I speak, but that system can't understand certain words I say. When I say electrical, it thinks I'm saying something else. I've had that problem in a recurrent manner with this particular service. I just chalk it up to how it's set up.
The contractor called within 20 minutes of me putting that request in. He called me directly, asked me what was going on, and then to set up a time frame to come out. He was prompt. He came right in, looked at the problem, and fixed it in less than five minutes because it was a little thing that was causing a big problem. The box was a little loose, so he just tightened it up and he was like, "If this comes in contact with the box, it creates a short, and that that's creating your problem. This is just too loose. I'm just gonna tighten this up."
Even his questions were so clear. He asked me, "Is there any chance, since it's getting colder, that you have a heater hooked up?" I did and that was part of the problem. He obviously was an expert. He wasn't new with this and he was professional. He was kind in his approach. I felt very comfortable with him and he got the job done. He did exactly what I needed him to do. I wanted an expert and someone who really knows what he is talking about, and he did that. I would be comfortable as a customer recommending him to anyone.
Home Shield is one of those things that is almost like a no-brainer. It makes you think, "Why didn't I think of that?? Everybody has something in their house that's gonna break down at some point. You want someone who's gonna come in, do quality work and be accountable for their work. Home Shield stands behind whoever comes to my home. If for some reason the product can't be fixed, Home Shield will give me the value of what it costs to replace it. I know that the product is gonna be fixed. And if not, they are gonna address that too.
I've had my washing machine, a refrigerator and two stoves repaired. I have a stackable washer and dryer that was a repaired too. If you do up to three appliances at a time, it's just that $100 flat rate fee. I have appreciated the service. It has been useful for me. There was one hiccup at one point, but I called and I felt they addressed it and took care of it too. They wanted me to be happy, and they listened and took care of my needs.

I just gave up. I'm so angry about it. I finally hired a plumber for this work because I can't afford to get a lawyer to get this figured out. Nobody would give me a clear answer. Every time they go like, "Oh, this one is not approved 'cause it's a shower thing. It's preconditioned." I get that. But when I asked, "What about the rest of them? Just a clogged drain," they said, "Oh, well, we'll get you back on that."
I also didn't like the people that they sent out. When he came in here, he was here for five minutes. He walked in. He said, "Oh, this is not gonna be approved, and I gotta go." I don't ever wanna use them again. I went online and looked at his reviews. A Water Solutions has reviews like this, "The rudest plumber ever. They were very friendly, professional, quick, patient and accommodating. I don't have any complaints at all. As a matter of fact, there are some things that I am gonna want to do with my house. I wanna change a sink out and I'm gonna hire them to do that. I'm also very satisfied with AHS.

I just recently purchased my Home Shield. I transferred from a different warranty company. And right after my 30-day waiting period, my dryer stopped heating up. I went online on Saturday and started the claim. And then they provided me with the numbers on Monday morning, I called the appliance repair company and they were out at my house on Wednesday. I had a 1:00 to 5:00 appointment window. I received a text at about 15 after 1:00, saying that the tech was on his way. Then he arrived and entered my house through my garage. He had on the correct PPE. I told him what I was experiencing with the dryer and he fixed it within 20 minutes. I chatted with him while he was doing it. And he seemed knowledgeable when he was explaining to me everything.
We were unsatisfied with the technicians that the other warranty company had sent to my home. On the other hand, I was really pleased on my first claim with Home Shield. I had a really good technician, my problem was solved and I was really happy. I already have told a few people I work with about changing. I like the payment once a month instead of once per year. That was really working with me on the payments. I have already recommended Home Shield to a couple of people.

The washing machine was not finishing its spin. I called AHS and a technician from Valley Pro came out after three days. However, he could not identify the problem. I got back to AHS and they ended up assigning it to Sears. The Sears technician was more thorough and extremely intelligent. He identified the problem and he ordered the part that's supposed to be installed on Tuesday. But I've been without a washer for over a month. I also had a dishwasher down since August 7th that only got finished on Monday. The technician that came for the dishwasher was excellent. I never get the same contractor because what apparently American Home Shield does is they set up all their repair providers in a database and it goes in a rotating pattern. So, it's random.

I would recommend American Home Shield. I've had no problem with them. Recently, our dishwasher was not functioning. It wasn't completing the cycle. I did the claim online and the website was pretty easy to navigate. On the website, it tells you that someone will contact you within 24 hours. The contractor contacted me the next day and scheduled a time to come out. They were here when they said they'd be and they fixed the problem. They had to order a part and come back but they did it in a reasonable amount of time. The dishwasher's fine now. We've only ran it one time but it cycled all the way through.

The guy went in, kinda had an idea of what the problem was, investigated it and figured out exactly what it was. He replaced the part and the refrigerator’s back up and running. He said, “If it doesn't work, give me a call and we'll fix it.” I appreciated that offer.

I had a recent claim to American Home Shield for a ceiling fan. The contractor didn't do the thing and my fan was not replaced but the contractor was fine. He didn't say anything to me when he left though. I was told that the contractor wrote up in his report that the motor was gone because of a string wrapped around the motor. But the chain that you pull to cut the fan off is broken out, so there's no way that the fan will come on. I was told I could have another person come out and look but I would have to pay another $100. I said I wouldn't do that because I'm not gonna pay another $100. I can understand that if a string was the cause of it, they wouldn’t fix it because it was not a mechanical thing. Overall, I’ve had no problem with them.

Our contract with AHS on a property ran out on October 9th. We sold the house on October the 6th. We offered the continued warranty to the new owners of the house and they said no because they had their own. Since our contract happened to be up within a couple of days, we went ahead and signed up to have ours canceled because no longer need it on the piece of property. We have another piece of property in South Carolina that we have the same combo plan on and we like it, and we have no issues whatsoever. I took a photo of the cancellation when I finally was able to do it on the 6th. When I submitted it, it said there would be around a $53 cancellation fee. AHS said they would review the request and make a decision within three to five business days. That was on the 6th and it is the 16th, and we still have not had a response.
If they decide to charge a fee for canceling before it ran out within a couple of days, I not only will pay that, but they better go ahead and charge me $50 more, because I will cancel the one that I'm currently in that is not up. I hope that they act like they've got some sense and not try to treat people like stepchildren. I'm not a retaliatory type guy, but I could understand if I canceled after the fact, and it had renewed. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
Other than that, it's very easy when you go online and submit a claim to them, but it's a problem when you get on the phone and call because you get somebody in a different country or you get somebody in this country that doesn't speak English. Their contractors are top-of-the-line, highly trained, and professional. We've never had any issue with anybody that ever came out. They were great.

The downstairs air conditioner was not blowing cold air. I went online and submitted the claim to American Home Shield. The process was really easy. I got an email saying that the contractor should contact me soon. It didn't say exactly how long, but it said they would be in contact with me shortly. The contractor showed up on time, he quickly diagnosed the issue, and he fixed it. He was in and out within two hours.
So far, with this first claim that we made, American Home Shield has been excellent. We had a previous home insurance and we had to fight with them constantly to send somebody reputable out. Also, the quality of the people that came out to fix it wasn't as good. They had to send out multiple people. Then, at some point, we still had to pay additional money more than the deductible.
With American Home Shield, I like being able to customize the plan on what they would cover. The previous one that we used didn't really have that option. I think that selecting the deductible amount was fair. The response time was really easy. At first, I was kind of worried of not talking to an agent to get the repairs done, but as soon as I submitted everything online, I got an email notification that said that it was being processed and to pay the money. I paid the money and then they said somebody would be out here soon. It was relatively quick and easy. There were no delays in anything. So, I enjoyed that.

The guy that came out about my thermostat was extremely sweet and very knowledgeable. They were in and out of here. They checked the entire thing and made sure that I was safe and good to go. They couldn’t have been nicer people.
The reps at American Home Shield are polite. However, you're on hold for a lot of the period of time. They need to have a better response time. I would like to have a more efficient and more expedient process. I’m still waiting on somebody to show up about my dishwasher. I am not a happy camper about that. I understand if they can go out and find the part, they're gonna go out and find the part instead of replacing something. I don't wanna listen to the repeated part of American Home Shield’s conversation with people. It's a 35-minute phone call. I don't wanna spend 35 minutes on the phone.
When I first started out with American Home Shield, my Realtor swore hat the information went in correctly and I should have been able to log on, do whatever it was I needed to do, but that didn't happen. I don't think it's the best product out there. It’s extremely time consuming. They send people that are farther away than they need to be. With the garage door, I hope that they had a substation or a sub store here more locally than Waco. Waco is an hour and a half drive. There are several companies here in Killeen that could have come in and done it probably for less money.

The heater wouldn't start at all, and 1st Goal came out and fixed it. They did a very good job. Submitting the claim was pretty simple. But they could have a little bit more personal service with people rather than automated or online servicing. It took me more than five months to get a stovetop repaired. That was the problem with dealing with them and the contractor who they sent out.
I had a water heater that started to leak. They sent out a contractor and the contractor was gonna charge $1,200 to install, even with the service contract that I have through American Home Shield. I wound up not even using them and I called my plumber and paid him $1,500 because I'd rather give it to someone I know. So that was bad. I didn't like that at all. I was very unhappy with what happened with the water heater. It was supposed to be covered and it had to be replaced. The contractor said that additional lines had to be ran. The claim was based on some difficulties I was having with the water heater in my home. I called a plumber and it was tricky for them. But eventually, it appears that they have fixed the problem. I'm not sure how they did it, but it took them a few visits. They thought it was one thing, ordered that part, and then it wasn't it. So they ordered a different part. Somehow it was really difficult to diagnose. But they're a good company. They were very friendly and nice about it.
AHS works pretty well and they have a good product. However, a thing has to be broken to be fixed. For example, my AC hasn't cool right. The AC repair people said, “That’s not broken. It's just not cooling. Right?” That's a little glitchy for me, and I'm still trying to work through that because I believe that if it doesn't cool, it is broken. Other than that, 90% of the time, the warranty is perfect.

Mr. Rooter came out and I told them that there was a leak behind the refrigerator and I thought the water might've been coming from there because I could hear something. They said that there wasn't anything wrong with the refrigerator and that it was the toilet that was cracked. They took the toilet and I still saw water in the restroom. I called Home Shield and told them that Mr. Rooter brought me a toilet that doesn't work. My mom needs handicap-accessible and they brought me a small Glacier Bay round toilet. My mom had to go stay in Dove Creek with my sister and they don't really have an extra room, so it was inconvenient. For a month, I dealt with it. Finally, Home Shield sent Lone Star out to do a second opinion and they said that the leak is actually from the refrigerator so we shut that off. They were perfect.
But Home Shield told me that I needed to pay for Mr. Rooter from Abilene to come out and fix the toilet. They came out and brought an elongated toilet which is a little bit taller so my mom can come back home. Now, that toilet works for her, but we still have to pay another $65 for the line to get fixed in the kitchen for the ice maker machine. It's been two months now, but I haven't paid for that part yet. I don't want Mr. Rooter out again because they didn't fix it and they did everything wrong the first time. It was a real mess trying to get through to AHS though because the check-up wasn't covered by their warranty program though it was offered through it. There was no way online or by phone to get that set up. They wanted me to pay them like how I pay my deductible on a service call before anybody talked to me or before I schedule anything. I most recently submitted a claim with AHS because our washing machine was leaking. I did it online and I got a call the next day from a service rep. The only complaint I had was the tech was busy and it took him a couple of days to be able to come out and assess the problem. Then, he had to order a part for the machine and that took another week. But when he came out, he found the problem almost instantaneous. There was a hole in the gasket for the door. Then, before he finished, he checked and took the lid off. There was a solenoid valve on the back that was also leaking. He said from his experience that if something like that happens, you always check the other one because it could be bad and he replaced them both.
Also, our water heater went out a year or two ago. It started leaking and that happened right before we were going out of town. Thankfully, we identified it and drained the thing before we went out of town. Then, the contractors were going to take a week, but it was fine because we were out of town anyway. I've had no problems with my hot water since the repair. We've had nothing but success with AHS so far. They're responsive and they look to get things fixed and fixed right.

Dealing with AHS is okay, overall. But it seems like they should be covering some things that I call in for. For example, the HVAC system that I've been trying to replace now for over two years has been near impossible and I don't like that. It's really not covering what you say is in there and that's a big problem with all of these types of insurance companies. We pay the premium just in case stuff happens, but that's what it boils down to. I'm in the process of remodeling my home and updating stuff because the insurance is really lousy in that sense. But they're good with cosmetic things like plumbing or electrical. Like when a plumber went out and was able to resolve the issue. But when it comes to the larger things, AHS is not the best use of consumer's money.

The rep from C Mayes Plumbing resolved part of the issue when he came out but there’s still one leaky faucet. There is a part waiting to come in and we’ve got faucets to be replaced. So, when the technician is able to come back out, we have the material for him to install. I tried to put another order with American Home Shield for another issue that I was having with an oven door. Somebody came out and then, they were delivering the part. I tried to tie in another issue with my refrigerator for the same guy to come out because it's the same company for each of the appliances. But they told me that they couldn't do a certain amount of tickets in one day even though I paid to open a new ticket.
I didn't wanna have two people coming to my house from the same company, when one person could have taken care of it. So, the reason that they gave me for not being able to coordinate the two didn't sound legitimate to me. I kinda have my eyebrow raised with that. Also, we've had somebody out several times for the refrigerator, and they have replaced certain parts after a while, but we keep having them come out to service the same thing.
Are you still in need of assistance?

Part of it was the mortgage company didn't put the money in fast like they were supposed to. AHS is very good. We ended up having five issues that had to get fixed right away. We got it worked out now, and everything seems to be going fairly well. The problem we had was so frustrating to my wife because she was trying to get some things ready. The hot water didn't work in the bathtub in the bathroom. We didn't know what the problem was with the shower, and it turned out it was just the faucet. But it was a pain. I was traveling, and we were trying to get moved, and I was trying to do it all at the same time. It was a bother. But it wasn't AHS, it was just how the initial payment was not getting to them.
Jake was the guy that came out, and he did a great job. He was very personable, very friendly, talked us through what was going on and got the job done quickly. The company he works for took forever to get back to us, which seemed like three days. That was a little disconcerting, but they did a good job once they got it. They were just busy. The faucet now works like a champ. Evidently there's some kinda cartridge that goes in those spinning around handles, and the cartridges have gone bad. So, they took a moment to replace the cartridge and it works fine. Overall, once you get through the initial process of getting everything set up, it's an easy and very professional operation. That original set up can be a little daunting.

My icemaker door was malfunctioning. It was allowing air to get in and therefore, the freezing part of the refrigerator was frosting up. So I get ice and frost inside the refrigerator around the door and beyond the door. I called American Home Shield and told them that I had a problem with my refrigerator freezer. A major part of the issue is that I can't communicate with them. I'm on hold forever. When I do get somebody, they may or may not speak English. But in any event, all they do was assign somebody.
I had never heard of the company that they assigned to my claim. It turned out that they were some of the local outfit that somehow got associated with American Home Shield. When the “technician” came to fix this little problem with my icemaker door, he claimed that it was already broken, but it wasn't because I know it was working. He apparently broke another part in the door of the icemaker, but not the electronics in the door. He said he had to order the whole assembly. It turned out that the assembly was no longer being made. So now, the only choice I had was to get a new refrigerator. I requested to get another refrigerator like the one I had. That seemed like a reasonable request. I spent 18 hours on hold in 6 different attempts to get American Home Shield on the phone. By that time, I was a little irritable. Every step of the way was a disaster.

I had an issue with the seasonal furnace check claim I put in. I called in and the repair people came in. They said I needed parts and to call American Home Shield and let them know that they gotta order parts. They also said they'd be back in three to five days and get it fixed. I called American Home Shield and spoke to a representative. He said I'd have to pay another claim fee which was $100. I can understand that I gotta pay another claim fee but what happened was the rep said they had to send out another vendor. I asked what about the one that came out and diagnosed the problem. He said, "That's not that way our policy works. We have to send out a new vendor."
That part, I didn't agree with. Then all of a sudden, I found out that the reason why my furnace wasn't working was the gas was turned off. I don't know if the technician turned it off. I turned it back on and everything worked fine. I had a bad experience with the first vendor that was sent out and also with the process that was given to me. Other than that, American Home Shield has been perfect. I've referred a lot of people to them. A technician came for my washer today. He had to order parts and they'll be back later.

We call American Home Shield and then they send somebody out within a day or so. We called them out last week because our furnace quit working and today, people from The Appliance Guys are here replacing it. We know other people that they have done work for, and they've all said they're great, so I'm assuming they'll be great with us as well. They're working downstairs, and they seem very professional. My husband's been with them because I'm upstairs by the fireplace. He likes them a lot.

They had to order something and they came back. They changed the doorbell and they were excellent. The technicians were really good, very helpful, and nice. It was just that one of the lights had not been sorted. There is some kind of changes they have to do with one our light. We've been recalling to the one call, but nobody's coming to look into that.

But in my experience with American Home Shield, it turns out that when a really big job needs to be done, they don't cover any of that stuff that you need. They'll replace the dishwasher or refrigerator. But when the big-time jobs come, I end up paying out-of-pocket.

American Home Shield has sent really good people. Everything that we've started is getting done. Some things have taken a little longer but I've been very happy. The website is super easy to file the claims on. I hear from the contractors very quickly and I've never had to call another contractor. I've never had to call them because they haven't gotten a hold of me. They always are really quick to respond. Sometimes when a project is in the middle of the project, the contractor might mark it as completed so that American Home Shield is not bugging them. I kind of have to take over and bug them. I have an issue with a jacuzzi and they pulled the pump on it. On the website it shows my project is completed but I don't have a functioning jacuzzi. It would be nice if American Home Shield was also bugging them to get it done. It would speed up the process a little more.
When we first moved in, it took about two weeks before they received funding from the title company in order for us to be able to file a claim. That was kind of frustrating because you've moved in, you discover things that don't work, you're anxious to get that ball rolling, but we couldn't do that. We could only file one claim until the payment had cleared and that seemed to take a long time. In today's world where everything should be done electronically, they had to wait for a check. We filed the claim for an exhaust fan where if we'd known, we would have filed the claim for something that was more pressing.

American Home Shield is a reliable home warranty company. I use them on an average of once a month. Tommy D Appliance has come out most recently. I had two other appliances I'm getting replaced as well. The technicians were always professional and on time. Although when this whole COVID thing first started, there was one company that came out in a lab suit with lab boots and the air tank, and it was quite interesting. I had neighbors calling me asking me if we were okay. They wanted to know if we were under quarantine.
It's just that customer service needs work. AHS should hire more people. I usually spend about an average of 30 to an hour and a half just to get someone on the phone. The one time to follow up with the dishwasher, I was on hold for the appliance section of American Home Shield for two and a half hours. Granted the lady on the other side of the phone was amazing and great, when she asked for the dimensions, I told her not to hang up on me and give me five more minutes as I wasn't home. I asked her that we talk about something else really quickly. Other than the ridiculous wait time, it’s been pretty good.

The microwave was brand-new and I used it maybe three times, and it just stopped working. So, the contractor fixed it. He replaced something in there. It was so quick and he did a good job. Then, he went down and fixed the washing machine but didn’t realize that the agitator was either wrong or what happened to it. I'm just waiting for the part and they're gonna come back on Thursday and fix that. The technician was super nice and I would go back with him and recommend them 100%.
I'm been waiting for a long time for my appliances to get repaired. I had a lot of issues with American Home Shield trying to get back to me and to get ahold of somebody. The microwave wasn't the biggest deal but I've got five children, my husband and myself, and I didn't have a washing machine for three months. Then my refrigerator as well. Right now, I have to go to a Laundromat. There's no possible way. I threw a lot of clothes away through that way and it's a lot of money gone down the drain. I've been handwashing clothes. Every time I go to a Laundromat, I spend about $50. I was hoping since the washing machine was fixed, that it would be done, but I know it's gonna be more than Thursday. They're gonna have to buy an agitator.

AHS sent out Sigmond Plumbing for my garbage disposal and they were wonderful. They were knowledgeable about what the problem was and the tech was able to fix it right at the spot. We also didn't really have to be around him to see if he was doing his work correctly or not. But they did not inform me ahead of time of the delay that they saw and I had to contact them to see what was going on and what time would they be able to make it. Other than that, everything was fine workwise. AHS was awesome, too and I didn't have any trouble with them.
The only thing is, I talked about the swimming pool thing with them and they said that certain stuff were not covered. But sometimes, there would be one thing that was covered, then the fixing of that was not covered. For instance, when the heater’s remote that we had in the swimming pool and spa area wasn’t working, they sent a person to see that. But to fix that issue, they were not ready to spend money for it, meaning it was not covered. There had been two times that we had issues with the swimming pool that weren't covered and the techs didn't fix them. I wasn’t happy about because they said the appliance was covered, but when the techs came here, they said only the service would be covered but not the parts.
Aside from that, when we had an issue with the electric fan, they said the fan was covered, but when the guy who came to look at it, he said the parts were not covered and they would not be able to fix it. I paid $75 for the visit and the fan was not fixed. This happened twice for me and during those times, I ended up paying the guy. Plus, I had to go for a different person to look for another part along with the guy, so I had to pay both of them again. But other than that, when we had an issue with the water faucet, everything was taken care of.

AHS did one job for me and it turned out great. My only issue with them is I'm having a difficult time not having a contractor I don't want in my home for a heating inspection. It's system-generated and there's no way to ask for a different contractor. You just have to cancel the service, go back and ask again, and hope you win the lottery. This was a request for a home heating tune-up for $75. I made a phone call twice and had a really lengthy conversation. The rep said she would do my request and not to worry. Then I get the little text or email that says this contractor will be in touch for a schedule. I look and it's this contractor that I don't want. Now I just don't have the energy for it. I put that to the side about a week and a half ago and I'll probably try to do it again soon because I'd like to get the thing tuned up.

I moved to this apartment on the 18th of September and the air conditioner was not working. I called in the next day, and they told me they will come on Monday to see what they can do. They came. The compressor is outside of the apartment and the guy looked around and said he would be able to fix something, but there was nothing that the warranty will cover to replace. The system is too old and it's not possible to fix it. He said he could adjust something that day, but he could not guarantee how long it would work. I said, "Well, but we need to make sure that this will work." He said that every time the unit stopped working, I needed to call and they would come back. It was Tuesday when the guy came and the next morning, the air conditioner was not working again.
I called American Home Shield and they made the appointment for the guy come back in the next Monday. The guy made the appointment for 4 o'clock. It was my day off and I went to the store. When I came back, I saw a 2 o'clock message on my phone that said, "I was here. You were not home. I will make another appointment." I called the company and said I was already waiting for one week. They said, "Oh, we will send the message and to see if he can come back tomorrow." The next day, the same guy sent me a message and he did the appointment for 10 days ahead, which was October 7th. I called the warranty company and told them that I couldn't wait that long. It was 90 degrees inside of the house and I work from home.
I told the American Home Shield rep that I can pay again for them to send me another company. They did. The guy who came here looked and said, "You have a big hole in the compressor. This compressor is not possible to replace because it's too old. The system is completely damaged and the only way to fix the problem is replacing all.” The guy did one description of the situation and sent me one email. He then sent to the warranty company the description of the job and they never called me back to say, "We will replace" or "We'll not replace." The next Monday, I called American Home Shield. I asked what was going on and why they were not answering the result of the last visit.
It's an hour until they answer the phone, and the lady that answered said it was a previous condition situation. She said they would not be able to replace my air conditioner. I even went through the reviews to see what was going on and all the reviews said really bad things of the company. Unfortunately, they don't know how to work business. I bought the house with the warranty that covered everything. When the house had an inspection, the inspector saw something wrong on the air conditioner and then the seller of the house bought this warranty to cover everything. The promise that I had when I bought the house was that it was covered. It's really sad.

My daughter lives in the house. I'm very seldom over there but based on the information I received from her, the contractor for the plumbing was very professional. Usually when you call in a claim, someone calls you back within a certain length of time. It's not a long waitlist that you have to wait. The turnover is great. You have to pay $75 though when the contractor comes out just to make that visit. Then, whatever the problem is, you’re responsible for paying for the service such as getting a new hot water tank. Still, American Home Shield does a good job as far as service.

The garbage disposal quit. It just wouldn't run. I called Home Shield and they made the appointment for Thursday. And then later in the afternoon, my HVAC system went out and I called Home Shield again and they scheduled it again Thursday. So, I had two appointments on Thursday. We were down there at Longboat Key for two weeks. The gentleman came out and he was on time. He was very proper, courteous, professional and did the job, and then left.
Submitting claims is a simple process. I like it so well. I didn't even know anything about Home Shield until we bought that townhouse down at Longboat Key and the real estate agent gave that to us as a gift. And because the townhouse stays vacant for several months, we don't rent it out or anything, so we're up in Franklin, Tennessee, they're down in Longboat Key, Florida, so if something goes wrong, I'm stuck trying to get somebody to come in to do it. And then I liked it so well that I went ahead this year and signed a contract for our house up here in Franklin.
I know a lot of companies do have a third party customer service. But that's just the way of businesses now. I made two calls for appointments on that Tuesday. The first call, the lady was extremely polite, but I couldn't understand her. I kept asking her to repeat herself. I have no idea how much training and all that. What I have learned, because I couldn't understand that lady when she made it, is that once she gave me the name, and it showed up on the computer too, I called the company to make sure that the appointment was set. For the second appointment I made, Home Shield is based out of Memphis and the rep was in Memphis. There were no language issues to deal with there. Other than that, Home Shield did exactly what they were supposed to do. If I had an issue, I called, explained it to them, paid them the $75, then they made the appointment.

The electrical that was feeding our septic pump wasn't working properly which caused the pump to burn out. I filed it as an electrical problem because that's what I believed it to be. American Home Shield sent Nystrom Electric out and their tech was friendly enough, but he didn't really seem that knowledgeable of that specific issue. A lot of what he was verbally telling me didn't make sense, but I kind of attribute that to, “Well, I'm not an expert and I don't know really a lot about septic tanks.” It didn’t sound right. He had to make a couple of phone calls to his company to try to get clarification and how it all worked. We went through the whole house looking for where everything connected. It seemed like he was trying, but he basically went back and said, “This is not something that we’ll work on. It's a problem with the pump and not the electrical. So, we're gonna refer it back to American Home Shield.”
The pump was repaired as a plumbing issue because the pump was burnt out. It was a separate issue, though. It was referred back to AHS because it started because of an electrical issue. Nystrom called and I had to explain it all over again. They came out a second time with the same tech, and he's still not really sure why he was back. He looked, made some phone calls, and told me that his project manager said he won't touch it because it didn't meet code. He couldn't explain to me exactly what that meant and then he left. I called AHS last week to see if someone could send me any documentation on what the official issue was because Nystrom wouldn't send me anything because American Home Shield filed the claim and not me. I haven't been able to get anything in writing.
The overall experience with American Home Shield has been fairly good. I've had a couple of things that I've had to have looked at. There was a service that they recommended to its customers as preventative for heating and cooling because winter's coming. I thought that was really good that they're offering things to try to help at a discounted rate for homeowners to try to prevent issues from happening. I do really like that. Processing is a little bit slow, but I understand that because of COVID and everything else that's happening. I'm fairly satisfied. Is it the best that it could be? Probably not. But it's a decent service.

On my recent claim to American Home Shield, they sent two to three people out to check the issue out. They send the first man out and he ordered parts and stuff, and he couldn't get it together. Then they send somebody else out. He said that it needed to be repaired and it needed a whole new something, but then they didn't trust him. They sent somebody else out to go behind him to see what was the issue and see if they could fix it. He said he couldn't do anything with it. AHS finally let us get another stove.
It was just one thing behind another. The contractor had ordered parts to it and he got one part of it working and then he left. The stove should light when it's still warm. I know it takes some time. It might take up to about an hour for it to really get the light on and let you know that the surface is still warm. He had put it in, had them like two hours and my husband went and touched it and it was too hot. That meant that it worked. But it stayed on the whole time. You can't go to bed or leave the house with the stove on. He came back and he had to unplug that part there, then he tried fixing it again and just couldn't get it right. He had put in a thing saying that it needed a whole new stove. That was when AHS sent somebody out to check behind him to make sure that that was what it was.
That guy came out and he tried to do something. He tried to order a part and put in every work needed. We got another one but AHS is not standing up to their words. They take you to so much. As soon as my plan ends, I'm gonna be ending them too. They advertise on TV this and that, and they take you through a whole lot. Also, they're sending out people who are trying to start a business. They shouldn't send people out with business that just started last month. Everybody needs a chance, but don't chance them with me.

I wanted to make sure that the electrical was up to code. I sent in a claim to fix the electrical for my doorbell because it's an older home. Initially, I was frustrated because the company had one cancellation at the last minute and one no show. But then I found out that it was the same individual and the company ended up firing that individual. So there were some kind of personnel issues going on. But it was frustrating from my perspective because I had switched my work schedule around so then I'd leave work, get home, and then find out no one was coming.
The technician that did come out was very knowledgeable. He took care of the issues and he acknowledged the fact that there were some internal issues going on with the company. He was able to fix everything. He checked wiring in the basement and he did a very thorough job to make sure that all the connections that were needed were taken care of. Everything's working great. Out of the claims that I've had with American Home Shield, I'm the most satisfied with the way that this one turned out.
I have one pending claim for my above the range microwave. I had to wait a week and a half for a technician to come out and look at the microwave and then American Home Shield decided they wanted a second opinion. I've been with AHS for almost 20 years and most of my experiences have been great. Once in a blue moon, they send someone out who doesn't know what they're doing and I have to end up getting someone else to be sent out, and then it's taken care of. I had to call about a water leak but the contractor sucked and I put in a complaint. He was just a young kid, came in with an attitude, and just talked down to my husband, which really ticked me off. And then he got frustrated, saying I needed a special tool to fix the faucet in my bathroom, which we didn't need. And when he left, he had me sign the paperwork, and about an hour later, I went into my bathroom and he had left my hot water running in the shower. AHS sent out someone else from Plumbers Inc. and it was 100% improvement. The guy was knowledgeable and he fixed everything. He was also very nice, very polite, and very professional.

Submitting a claim is not really hard, but it's time-consuming -- push this button, do this backflip, jump over this hose. But there was one girl that was just terrific. Her name was Jasmine and she was wonderful. She thought of things that might happen in different situations. She knew what she was doing and said, “Okay, if this happens, then call this number. If this happens, call this number. You're gonna have to do it this way and make sure you do it that way.” She impressed me. Most of them did not have a bad accent, but they really didn't seem that they actually knew what was happening.
During one weekend, there was water all down the hallway. It came from the hot water heater, so I turned the water off out in the street. I called American Home Shield and they were supposed to send somebody out there. Two hours later, no one had arrived and I hadn't heard of anything. I called them back and they said, they didn't have anybody that would come out on the weekend. They said I could go out of their service and get my own and then pay for it and then they would reimburse me. I did that and I have not heard from them. I've sent them a copy of the invoice, but I have not received my money back.
I was gone the next day and the following day, I came home and went to take a shower and there was no hot water. I called AHS again and they sent out Bill’s. They were very nice. It turned out the other company had not done the pilot light, which was rather annoying. Bill's took care of it and everything was fine and working just great. But, it cost me $461 for two new lines that were about 10 bucks apiece that I could’ve done myself. So, the whole situation was not good. I'll call them back and spend 30 minutes just trying to talk to somebody, and find out if they ever received my invoice to get my money back.

But that if it went back out, to call the company again. It did go back out and I called AHS again and let them know what happened. I figured I should go to them since it will be them who will determine whether they can do anything further or if it's gonna come out of pocket or whatever the case. The young lady wasn't able to resolve it. When I called, she said she had to follow up because they didn't have the notes of the technician in their system and that they would call back.
I've been out of town for a week-plus now and AHS hasn't called me back. So, I was thinking about that this morning that I needed to call before I let too much time go by since I called them to see what the status of it was. I’ve had this service with AHS for a long time and they’re generally good. Sometimes, the frustration is that we don't have the right coverage and it’s not the company. Usually, there are folks out to the house quickly.

We had two houses and I had American Home Shield on both of them. With the home warranty, you can either make a claim with them online or you can call them. I find that doing a ticket online is easier than actually calling them. Sometimes calling them is pretty cumbersome. But usually, I get a quick reply back within one or two days. When considering a home warranty, look at the extended plans that the company offers and see if some of those items fall within appliances or different things that one has. In my case, I didn't know American Home Shield covered septic tanks and pool pumps. It's always good to be aware.
I had one complaint about my home warranty though. Something happened with my water heater and I wasn't a fan of the company they sent out. I looked at the contractor's reviews and a lot of people weren't happy with them. I asked American Home Shield if they could find someone else and they said the only option I had was to take the cash payout. That was pretty much what I did. There was also the time when I had two situations with the electric. I had some lights out and the power to my sprinkler system was out. Mae Dae Electric came out and they reacted really quickly. They made the repairs. Their guy was very personable and nice. He kinda explained what was going on and how he made the repairs.

But nobody works on a weekend I suppose so it didn't happen until Tuesday when I was off. I had to sit with the dirty dishes and I couldn't move anything for four days. Other than that, it went fairly smooth. Every time I've had a problem and I’ve used AHS, it's been very efficient.

I've been relatively pleased with AHS. However, I had a plumbing issue that wasn't covered by AHS which was horrible. I ended up paying for it out of my pocket and I wasn't happy with that. That was $3,000 and it left a taste in my mouth. I’ve been with them for around eight years or more. Initially, when I first got AHS, they used to be the ones to set up an appointment but now, they have everything automated. But I haven't had a problem with everything else.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

We have referred some people recently to American Home Shield. They bend over backwards to make sure we get what we need and also get good results. If you're not satisfied with one vendor, they contact them, let them know you’re not happy, and they will send someone else out. They will continue to do that until the job is done. Their process is very easy. I told them what was wrong and Wilks Appliance Repair came out and fixed the problem for the dishwasher and the stove. They're pretty good. We had one issue with a plumber that came out though. I was not happy with what they were doing. They came out to do the work, but they didn't really do it. We had to get someone else to come out to finish the work.

The toilet was having a problem. The water was going all the way down and not coming back up. So, the rep from SWAT Plumbing came and changed a part, and it's fixed now. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is very simple. You just call the number and tell them what it is. Then, within a day or so, whoever they contract with calls for an appointment. I only had two repairs in five years. So financially, I don't know if it's worth it to have it but I'm not gonna lose it. It's easier to call one place. It’s more convenient.

My water bill was double and then I noticed that my hot water heater was running 24-7. I had somebody come over and sure enough, there was a water leak. I called AHS and they sent out the contractors. Then the contractors said what they needed to do and got permission from AHS and took pictures for AHS to see what was going on and for them to go ahead. My friend turned the hot water heater off so all I had was cold water. Then when the contractor came back, he fixed it where I could have cold water till he could get back with AHS and get everything approved. Then within a day, they were back out there and they got it fixed. So far, everything's been working.
However, when I got American Home Shield, there was a lot of misinformation. When I bought this policy, I was under the assumption that I paid my $50 a month whether I used it or not. Then if I had to come out, it was $109 on heat and air. I've used AHS one other time, and it was plain about if they came out and they had to use more than a certain amount of Freon, I had to pay for that. So I was fine because I knew that upfront. But I was led to believe that if something was broken and the contractors could not fix it, that AHS would pay the 100%. I need to know exactly what my future looks like. I can't be thinking that AHS is gonna pay 100% other than the $109 plus the money I pay every month, then when it comes right down to it, AHS will only pay $1,000. The guy told me AHS will pay $1,000 towards heat and air, but they will pay $3,000 towards an appliance. That doesn’t make sense.

I work at a hospital and we have COVID going on and everything. And it's hard for me to get away. But I have asked that the contractor call me a half hour before coming. And then I was able to work it out that way, so that part was good. The tech from Liberty Plumbing came on time. He explained everything he was doing. He was able to find the problem and he fixed it. It’s all you can ask for. Also, he had a mask on. We weren't near each other. He was down in the basement and I was pretty much upstairs.
I'm generally happy with Home Shield's service. Right now, I have a repair taken in for a microwave. The contractor came out to put a part in the microwave, but it didn't work. It has been going on four weeks, and I'm not too happy about that. They’re waiting on parts. The processes of elimination with seeing once you bring in the part and then it not working, and then bringing in another part, and it not working, that's not so great. The microwave is old. It probably really needs to be replaced. It’s not gonna be expensive to even replace the microwave. But, in the past, everything worked pretty well. The service has been beneficial.

I absolutely love American Home Shield and I've been with them for more than 20 years. I always encourage my friends and neighbors to, at the very least, give them a call. They’re great. I called them when I wanted them to do a regular check. Everything was good and was told to expect a contractor in 24 to 48 hours. Southern Air Conditioning and Heating called me and they came the same day. They were excellent.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that is knowledgeable and able to explain what is going on. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.

The plumbing problem got resolved and the contractor answered questions well. They were able to schedule in a timely manner. It went well. They wore a mask and they made sure to keep adequate social distancing. The only qualm I have is the phone wait time. There were instances where it was easy to get online and issue a work request. But it was kind of a weird situation for me because I was trying to get a follow-up after my old contract expired. I didn't have a chance to request a follow-up. I had to do it over the phone. It was a pain. But American Home Shield is fine. I like it.
American Home Shield's online service is okay and I like their contractors that they hook me up with. It's handy to have a home warranty in general. But on the website where it lists the telephone number and it states that it's a 24-hour phone line. But it's pretty clear to see that the resources they have answering the phone differ based off the time of the day.
I called at 1 AM because no one was gonna be in the queue. But that was not the case. I left my phone on for an hour and a half before I hung up and there was no answer. But whenever I called back the next morning, someone answered within half an hour. So they should be clearer in details as far as calling in. Also, their online utility needs to have some sort of mechanism, which allows me to request follow-ups more readily, and give me more options for detailing the nature of my issue. It gives a bunch of random checkmarks for like, "What do you have problem with?" They should put in a search bar that auto-completed my issue because some items could fall under different aspects.
Thank you for reaching out to us to provide your feedback and experience. We appreciate you being a valued customer of American Home Shield. We do apologize for the delay in communication in resolving your issue. We would love to speak with you more to discuss this matter. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

Draingo was very professional and very knowledgeable. When I had a flood, it kind of messed up my laminate flooring in that particular area and my carpet. I explained to them what was going on. They could see what was going on with the issue and they took care of the problem. There was something that was obstructing the toilet. They took out the whole toilet and retrieved it. Then they reinstalled the toilet and everything was taken care of right there. American Home Shield is the most reliable company towards covering stuff in your home. I've been pretty impressed. I've seen other people advertising stuff, but I'm a happy customer. Their custom service is really good. The process was really quick and very user-friendly.
