One of my pipes was leaking because it was clogged. Home Shield's reps are always friendly and understand my concerns. Service Mechanical unclogged the pipe. The tech was clean, straight to the point and he answered any questions that I had. Everything went smoothly.

The furnace needed a repair. American Home Shield gives you a phone number and I called them early in the morning because they have 24/7 access. They handled this very quickly. I called at 8:20 and their message said there was a 10-minute wait, then they were pretty close to the 10-minute wait. So, close to 8:30, I was able to speak to somebody and I told them what the issue was. I had not filed a claim with American Home Shield before, so I wasn't sure how it worked. They told me that it would cost me $75. Then, a company by the name of Platinum Heating & Air Conditioning would call me. But I was more than welcome to call them. And since it was a repair and it wasn't not functioning, they asked for 24 hours for the repair to be done.
So, at 8:40, I got off the phone call and I called Platinum Heating & Air Conditioning. There must be some communication app of sort between American Home Shield and Platinum because they knew who I was. I had happened to be working remotely that day, so they came out that day and assessed the furnace Through the app with American Home Shield, you can see the timeline of what's going on and in my case, they said that they would be out between 3:00 and 5:00 PM. I received a text message at 3:30 that said they were preparing to work on my order, then they were en route and were there a little bit before 3:00. They couldn't repair it that day but they fixed it as best that they could so that we could have heat for at least a couple of days. They also explained some of the issues. Then, it was repaired that Friday. It was very quick and very transparent.
All in all, AHS is worth the $700 to get, especially if some of your appliances are kind of in a crapshoot. We paid it last year but we didn't use it. We paid it this year and got our money's worth out of it. So, it's just that risk that you wish to take. But it was very nice and I would highly recommend it. Especially if you don't have a savings account or something you built up where you can pay cash for these things, that $700 is really nothing. I had a friend that had an air conditioning issue during the height of summer here in the desert. She said she couldn't believe that they fixed it and it was only $75. It broke again and they fixed it again. Then, the third time, they replaced it.

When I bought a refrigerator from Craigslist, it was in pretty good shape. But within about a week or so, it had stopped cooling down and made all kinds of crazy noises. It had basically stopped functioning, for the most part. I called around to a bunch of other appliance stores. But the refrigerator model that I bought was too foreign for them and they didn't work on that type. Also, it was too much of an odd size. But I needed to have this one because the previous owners cut the length of the tile so only a certain fridge could fit in there. I had to keep it so it was very important to have it fixed.
A tech with Active Appliance came and he was great. He was very polite. He didn't say too much because he spoke Russian but I kinda got what he was asking from me and what I could do to help him. If there was ever an issue, we got on our phones and we translated to one another. The translate app was really helpful. There was a lot to get in and the second time the tech came, he was able to get in on his own. That was kind of a resourceful thing that I appreciated. I don't get good service here so I was glad he was able to make his way in here.
He didn't take too long. He worked quietly and in the end, he gave me a very short but a concrete list of instructions for when he would come back. He was basically saying, "Do X, Y, and Z. And defrost 24 hours before I come back." By the time he came back, he had the right piece. He found the broken piece and put in the new piece that was gonna fix the fridge. Since then, it's been great.
90% of my interaction was with that one handyman that American Home Shield sent out. But as far as their support staff that helps out after 5:00 PM business time, they could be a bit tricky to work with. Some things can get lost in translation because they're Indian or Pakistani. But it's a very small thing. Originally, I had set up for one operator that wasn't gonna be able to help for a month and a half. I had to work with a girl to get in contact with that operator, to find out that it was gonna take a month and a half to cancel that then get resigned up with somebody else. It was a bit difficult to work with her because of the language gap. But eventually, she got it fixed and she found the right guy.
What I was previously gonna have to do was hire somebody to remove the refrigerator then go find a refrigerator that can fit in the space through a variety of different vendors, which was not gonna be easy. And while doing all of that, I would not have a refrigerator. Having Active Appliance come out here, fix the refrigerator, and be in and out, was such a huge lifesaver.

I had to talk to some people that didn't understand what the issue was and kept telling me that what I wanted done wasn't covered. I busted out my contract and read it to them and they said they would look it up. They did and said that I was covered. Everything has been very satisfactory with the exception of the little misunderstanding. Also, dealing with the technician was excellent.
The experience with American Home Shield was exceptionally good. I always have a talk with the people who come out because I find that a lot of contractors and people don't live up to some of the things they're supposed to do. I explained to the plumber when he came out that I did not like doing business with people who said they would be here at 10 o'clock and then forgot to come and not call. Since everybody has a cell phone on their left hand, it should be easy to keep people informed on what's going on. And the people did. He was a very fine man. If I need anything done and I have problems not covered by AHS, I would call him and pay him directly.
Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs. Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

I had a leaking water heater. I filed a claim online to American Home Shield. I like their website. I got an email that said I should hear from the contractor in the next two business days, and if I hadn't heard from them, I could reach out to them. The contractor was great. They had fixed the problem. They did it when it was just a small leak. It avoided a catastrophe.

I had a clogged main drain pipe. I had worked on it for weeks. I couldn't figure it out. Time for a professional to step in. The contractors that AHS sent came out, pulled the plug on the mainline. They back snaked it, cleaned it all out and got it going again. My only complaint with AHS is that stupid call center they use. I hate talking to those people 'cause they don't know anything. They read off of a script and they don't understand very well. They don't understand English phrases. There's definitely a communication breakdown.
It's like when I call to get an answer to a question, these people just read the same thing over and over. Because it's like, "This is what happened." I was like, "I'm telling you, that's not what has happened." So I need to get an answer to a question and it just goes back to the scripture. Then I just end up hanging up the phone and think about quitting. But the contractors have been 100% professional. They walked me through the whole step verbally from a distance, 'cause of the whole COVID thing. I went down afterwards. There weren't even drops of water on the floor. So whatever they did, they kept it very contained, very clean and it was very appreciated on my end.

We couldn't turn off one of our single-arm faucets in the kitchen. It was dripping. So we contacted American Home Shield and they brought in the Safe Cali Plumbing. They contacted me within the first 20 minutes of me putting in the call and then they were here within the hour and fixed it. They found out that there was a piece missing. The piece had worn down. So he said he was gonna have to come back and reschedule it next week. Then he came back about five minutes later and he said he had time and that he was gonna go to the plumbing store around the corner and see if he could get that part. If it didn't work, then they would need a new faucet for me. He came back and the new part worked. In all of my years of American Home Shield, I have never had this type of experience within an hour and a half of the phone call that it was completely fixed. It was pretty awesome. The tech kinda went above and beyond.
The only thing I don't like with American Home Shield is that I didn't know they had gone up to $100. It's getting really close now to us just calling the provider ourselves for a consultation. So I hope they don't go any higher. I would love it if they went back down a little bit. I'm one of those customers that pays this big upfront fee, but never use them. The rate is getting kind of high at this point to make it really worth it.

There was a leaky faucet in our shower. The American Home Shield website was pretty easy to use when I went through it. The warranty covered it and I had to do a $100 deductible. The technician came out ‘cause he was in the area to look at it to get a general idea of what they would have to do. Then he came back two days later with the parts. He got it done within three hours and he did an excellent job. I have homeowners' insurance but American Home Shield is a good backup. But it's a higher deductible which is close to $500. So this covers between the 100 to 500 category. American Home Shield is usually right in there. I just have to put out $100 instead of 500. So it makes it a lot easier.

I don’t have the time to try to search and get anybody to come over here and do any drywall for me. Now, I got the refrigerator. It was not making ice at the bottom. The contractor said it was freezing up. He put steam up on it which thawed it out. Some ice dropped and it was just the same pieces on the one drop. He came back out but it's still not working. I got a lot of different issues that I got to do.

An appliance was making a banging noise every once in a while when it was turning off or on. I figured it might be the condenser going out. I pulled the back off and looked at it. I had just cleaned it a month or so before that so it still looked good. Everything looked good. It was making subtle sounds before but this time, it was like somebody dropped a water bottle from 10 feet up. I called Home Shield to have it looked at and I got a response right away. The tech from Nate's looked at it and he said he couldn't find anything wrong with it. I unplugged it and I let it sit there for about for a couple of days till he got there. When he plugged it back in, everything seemed to be going good.
He said sometimes when the heat goes in and out, it goes to two different sizes of tubes and sometimes that makes noise. The problem was not really a problem, according to him. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Also, he did a good job as far as he had a mask on and all that good stuff. It's been about a week or so since he came out and I haven't heard any noise since then. Paying $100 to have a guy come and tell me everything's good didn't really sit well with me. But it could have been different. And everything worked the way it’s supposed to. I'd tell others to go ahead and give Home Shield a try. 100 bucks is a pretty good deal at least for peace of mind.

We are now completed with the job. However, this goes back to the end of August when we first put in the call. Weeks went by and we hadn't heard anything. I understand it’s difficult getting parts, but I tried calling American Home Shield many times and their representatives were absolutely horrible. They made one excuse after another. It went on endlessly. I tried to speak with someone who, perhaps, could help me and I got hung up on a number of times. It reached a point where my peak of anger was not anything like I generally behave.
I took it upon myself a week and a half ago to call once again the place that was going to do the fixing. I had been in touch with them before, and they were getting a runaround from American Home Shield as well. The guy from the place in Denville, New Jersey was wonderful and very sympathetic. On my last call to him, he said that whatever it took, he would get the part. Two days later, we had the part and everything that we needed to be fixed was fixed, but it shouldn't have been an experience like this at all. It was mostly the reps that were so terrible.
Aside from being terrible, many of them spoke English poorly, and it was very difficult to communicate with them. I am not one who is prejudiced, but this was awful. I was so livid I shared it online. I really considered dropping American Home Shield all together. I made a lot of calls to other companies, but I haven't done anything yet. I'm still in the process of thinking. I asked for the opinion of the guy who's in charge of the place that helped me. Even though this experience was horrible, both on his side and mine, he said that he still thought they were the better choice and to think hard about it.

The defroster seems to be working all right at the time. I’m hoping it keeps working. It's an old refrigerator, so the compressor may go out. I also had to have a part replaced in my oven. It was on the computer and it's a very old one. But the technician took it out, sent it in to AHS. It was repaired. It came back and he reinstalled it, and it's been excellent since. That was Dale's Appliance. I was very satisfied with AHS.

So it was nice and easy. He came in, masked up, was able to diagnose the problem within seconds, and then took a few minutes to swap out the outlets. He was gone in less than a half-hour time.
My experience with AHS has been positive. I was a little taken aback by the pre-paying before I get a technician or anyone to call me, but that was about last year. I had two claims since then and they were handled. Made it easy 'cause I can call American Home Shield at any time, and then the technician usually follows up with me within the next 24 hours.

I called in on the 6th for the inducer motor that was bad and they completed the job on the 14th. They ordered parts on the 10th, the parts came in on the 12th, and the man put them on the 14th. They could've done it a little bit quicker but with ordering the part, they did a good time.

He replaced a part, which had cracked, and now I have a leak, in which I'm very frustrated because when I called, they're telling me I have to pay another $100 of which I'm not paying because it's unfair. I called for my refrigerator that had water in the bottom. I also called for my stove because I wasn't quite getting the heat that I needed coming out of it. I knew that something was off with the temperature. The man from Arizona Value Appliance came and checked every item in my refrigerator to make sure it wasn't broken. There was no leak. It must have been when I was cleaning the refrigerator, I noticed that there was water on the bottom. It never dawned on me it was because I was cleaning it. He even helped me put my shelves back in properly because I had one of them off-kilter trying to put it back after I washed it. On the stove, he took the whole back apart to find the heat regulator and adjusted that for me. Then he sat there and tested it and retested it to make sure that I was happy with the situation. When he pulled that out, I was embarrassed. I asked if I could clean that and he said yes.
The guy went above and beyond. I watched him clean my refrigerator all day long. He was wonderful, polite, respectful, and I would recommend him any day, not only because he was good-looking, but he knew what he was doing. I was very happy with the service. There was just one thing on my previous service call that didn't make me a happy woman. AHS charged me $100 and I didn't realize that my washing machine was under a year old so it was covered under the one-year warranty thing. I didn't know that till the serviceman was here telling me that.
When I called to make the appointment for my refrigerator and stove, the lady just let me know that I wasn't gonna get my money back and that was not the case. I gave her another $100. I wasn't happy with her that was taking the money because she kinda shot me right down. If AHS really look at those things, I'd like to know what the policy is. But I wouldn't have been able to get my refrigerator and my stove serviced if I didn't do that.

The tech American Home Shield sent from Blue Ridge Mountain for my claim regarding a leak was excellent. He called when he was leaving his appointment prior to mine and told me I was next. He said that if I was available, he could come early. Otherwise, he would go to a later appointment and work with me at the time it would be best. I was home so I told him that it was fine for him to come early. He told me the ETA that was shown on his map and he arrived a few minutes earlier than that time. He was very respectful and he knew what he was doing. After he checked on my plumbing, he told me the solutions that were available to me and we agreed on one of them. He took his time and he was neat. He ended up having to replace a faucet of mine and he had one in his truck so we didn't have to schedule a second visit. He put it in and showed me how it worked.
He told me to be proactive about the leak and that while what he did would take care of it with no problem, there was always a chance that it wouldn't as I had older pipes. He also told me to keep an eye open for other problems that might show up. He had me try the new faucet out and made sure everything was good. When he left, no one would have known that he was here other than me having a brand-new faucet for my sink and no leak.
Despite this claim, AHS sucks. I still have an outstanding claim with them for a refrigerator. I didn't know that my homeowner's association was supposed to have made sure that a repair was done on my refrigerator. I knew that they called my issue in to American Home Shield because during negotiations with them, they told me that they have already called my claim in to American Home Shield. On the date of the settlement, I was told that there was an issue with getting the needed parts for the refrigerator. They said it would be taken care of and it was just a matter of the manufacturer getting the needed part because of COVID.
At the time, I did not sell my previous home as my son and my nephews are still living there. They were coming down to my place once a week and they would bring boxes to put in my garage. GE Appliances had to send the needed part within the move. Whoever delivered the needed part decided to come to my garage and the parts were apparently at my location on August 4th. I got no follow-up phone call from AHS. My boys thought I just had a box sitting in my garage. October rolled around and I decided that the claim had gone on long enough. So, I started calling Home Shield and I got the runaround. I spent two-plus hours to find out that the parts had been delivered on August 4th. Their techs couldn't do anything until I located the parts. I asked them if anybody signed for the parts and whether they were addressed to me or to the previous homeowner. It was addressed to them and lo and behold, I find the box with the parts in my garage.
Home Shield's techs were supposed to be at my place between 1:00 and 5:00 PM the previous Thursday and nobody came. I called AHS and I got the runaround again. The reps told me that whoever the contractor was called me at 3:30. I told the rep whom I was speaking with that I received no call. The reps told me that he was located 35 minutes away. At five after 5:00, I still haven't received a call nor an update from AHS's contractor. I then told AHS's reps that it was not okay for him to come anymore 'cause I had to be somewhere. I told them that I needed to be first on the contractor's list the next day for my issue to be addressed because this is a failure by AHS in communicating.
There was also a time when one of their contractors was a no-show with me. They then told me that they showed up. I found them on my cameras an hour after they were due and they never knocked on my door because the issue was something outside. People shouldn't just show up on somebody's property without making themselves known.
I called in on October 22nd and AHS said that the earliest they can get anybody to my place is November 3rd. In the meantime, my refrigerator is not holding temperature and I've lost all kinds of food. I've gone to buying groceries every other day or eating out. I told AHS's rep that I've waited long enough and to date, my refrigerator is still not fixed. I circumvented AHS already 'cause they kept telling me that GE was giving them the runaround. I told the rep to give me GE's number and I would take care of it. I set the appointment with them.
Good morning Kathleen,
I apologize that your experience with AHS was not satisfactory. I have sent an email to you regarding the resolution of your issue. Please respond to that email for further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

The air conditioner stopped working. I had the AC on 76 and it never cooled below 80. It got up to about 85 in the house. So, I called American Home Shield and Royal Flush came out. Everything went fine. The technician checked in the attic and then he checked outside. When he checked outside, he determined that the motor was not working. So, it was broken. Once he did that, he also discovered that the fans weren’t working. But interestingly, before that, it was working earlier in the summer. So, on the first day, he replaced the motor. But he didn't have the fans. So he had to come back the second day to replace the fans on the outside unit. Then the AC worked. The technician was friendly and professional. He was really good about contacting me as to when he was gonna have the parts and when he was gonna be able to come back.
A lot of people telling me that American Home Shield is one of the best ones. I got it because I thought it was gonna cover things for a 40-year-old house. But there are so many exceptions. So, if you have something you think is covered and then, you call and they'll say that they don't cover that part. But they do respond when I call them and have an emergency.

My heat was doing cool air. But it was because we didn't have it set correctly. My husband has dementia and he had turned on blower. I thought it was broken, but it wasn't. So the tech showed me how to set my machine. He's always been the person who came out to service me. I like the company. Submitting the claim to AHS is a real easy. If you know the name of the equipment, then you put that in. I've been with them for 20 years and the process is real simple. You used to have to talk to somebody on the phone or be on hold. Now you could just put your complaint in. I did it on a crazy hour of the day and I got a response immediately. We're getting services. What made me keep them is that many years ago, when I first got my home, I needed a new furnace, and they replaced it. All I had to do was the deductible. So I'm very comfortable with the services. I’m real happy.

Right now, we've had issues, not so much with the American Home Shield, but mainly with the contractors they keep sending out. My most recent claim was for a stovetop. The claim submittal is easy. You just go on the app or the website and then just request a service. They schedule with whoever's available and they call to schedule an appointment. So far, everyone who's been scheduled has been on time or a little early, and they just come see the problem. The main issue I’ve had with the whole process is sometimes they hire companies and contractors that say something to us, but then they report something different to American Home Shield.
That's where I'm in the process with American Home Shield because the contractor just told me they're gonna submit a request for replacement product. Then they reported something different to American Home Shield saying that it was caused by oil like we would then take care of it, but that was not what they told us it was. That's not an issue as well because we have been taking care of our stovetop. We've had it cleaned several times, but the product needs to be replaced. So, we're kind of in the middle of trying to get that fixed.

American Home Shield's tech from At Home Services did an awesome job. He stayed his distance and wore a mask when he came to my place. He told me that I could get three cups of hot water and pour it down my drain if it gets plugged up again. The hot water he poured melted the ice buildup and got it out. That tech had also come out to repair our garage door previously. It was nice to know that it was the same company who came and that they handled my claim very well both times. We're very happy with them.
So far, I've had two repairs with American Home Shield and with them, I don't have to come up with a lot of money. Before, I paid a guy $130 to come and repair my fridge. He didn't repair it and when I tried to get him to come back, he no-showed me. He quit answering calls as well. I'm very happy with the tech who is doing my repairs now through American Home Shield. We had American Home Shield for four years before at our old house and then we bought a new house and we've had it for four months. The way that they choose providers seems wonky to me. When we lived in Los Angeles, California, it seemed like they would just choose a random supplier and a lot of times, those suppliers were 30 miles away from us. In Los Angeles, that's a three-hour drive, when I'm sure there were service providers closer. We just moved to Arkansas and it's same thing here. The provider seems random and wasn't the closest option.
At our old place, we called mostly about the hot water heater when it had issues. It was old. We had some issues with the furnace as well. We've purchased homes that have been nice, but a lot of the appliances have been a little on the old side. It's a reassurance that if something were to break, then we can go to American Home Shield, instead of having to replace something or pay for it out of pocket. It's usually less expensive to pay them to have someone to come out as well. One time, they had N W Air Care come out here and it went well. They fixed the problem.

I own two homes right now, one is a rental and one is my primary property, and American Home Shield is on both of them. The more rural locations or the higher end the house, the experience gets more difficult but now that I'm back in the metro with more available contractors, I haven't had an issue with getting service right away and having quality service. I scheduled the appointment to have the furnace looked at and it came up with a problem. Then the buyers of the house wanted that to get looked at by a second person. So, because there was already an open furnace thing that happened, I wasn't able to schedule it again. I had to call American Home Shield which was a dreadful experience. Otherwise, scheduling just the regular service appointment is easy with the website. I personally won't use the service again because an hour and a half wait time to talk to a representative is insane. Luckily, my Realtor had a local contact, so it helped get through the system a little faster so it worked out. Towards the end, the communication was great.
I wouldn't think that they'd be in business if they continually made people wait an hour and a half to talk to a representative. That just doesn't seem right. I'm guessing a lot of the problem was because of the pandemic and everyone's working from home. It's just a combination of timing and the fact that I couldn't do what I needed to do online. If people want coverage and get things fixed at a fairly okay price, go for American Home Shield. Take it with a grain of salt. But if they don't have patience, don’t, ‘cause they might have to call.

Their techs went upstairs, did a little this and that and were down in less than five minutes. It was after the third time I called American Home Shield when they sent an actual heat and air serviceman instead of sending out Sears. The tech said that I was right and that the issue was with the coils. He said that it was due to AHS's procedure that they sent Sears before. Jeremy from K & S Plumbing came out and the problem was an easy fix. There was just some hair in the sink. The service is pretty good. I had an issue with a previous service. But once the contract was explained about what's covered and what's not covered, then I felt better about it. American Home Shield could do better on their communication.
The process of submitting a claim for service was easy enough. The issue that I had that wasn't clarified was I didn't know that in one of my bedrooms, the air wasn't coming out of the vent. The rest of the house, the air flows perfectly. So, on the computer, when you're selecting what's wrong, I don't know what's wrong. I just know there's no air coming out. So, I said air conditioning or something to that effect. Then, it doesn't let you do ductwork if you do air conditioning. It won't let you click on that. A gentleman came. He said it wasn't the ductwork. But it has to be the ductwork because everything else is flowing.
If I was able to select that, then I would be fine with the way that service was closed out. Because I wasn't satisfied with that. Someone said they would call me back. They said they would do a follow-up, but they never did. When I called back the other day, they said I waited too late. But I was giving them time to do whatever they needed to do. I thought maybe they forgot about me. When I called back, they said it was too late, so I would have to pay another $100. Other than that, my experience with American Home Shield has been fine.

We've been kinda locked up in our house for the better part of the year. In general, we go to work every morning and we come home at night, and we don't use our systems the way that we did a year ago. In Houston, the weather was in the mid to upper 90s every day, and the AC was running and we didn't really think much of it other than it was running a lot because we were here all day every day. I got an advisory from an electric company and they said, "Your bill is normally this much every month. And we have history for four years and your bill this month is gonna be double what it was before. We just want you to know that." So, I started kinda poking around and I realized the AC was running almost 24/7. It never cut off.
I'm an engineer and I work a lot in oil and gas and there are certain services that we provide when we do audits in the units. One of which is we look at what's called a steam trap. With the units of the customers, they use steam to heat up their process because of the oil that comes up out of the ground called bitumen. It's like maple syrup. They have to heat it in order to get it to move to process it around and take it to the hydrocrackers. When you make steam and you send it downline, it doesn't stay steam, it actually drops below 212 degrees and turns back into liquid. It's called condensate. So, the steam traps allow the condensate to come out while keeping the steam moving through the system.
I have a laser temperature detector that tells me the temperature at a trap, and I can tell whether that trap is working or not. I went to the car and I got my temperature detector and I started shooting it at the registers in the house. I found that the air that was coming out was almost the same temperature as in. It wasn't cold at all. When the sun went down and it got cool, the system would kinda catch up. Never really all the way, and then, when the day came and the sun came out and it got hot outside, the house just kept getting hotter and hotter. I called American Home Shield and they contracted this company to come out and look at the system.
We have a three-story home but with only one AC. We have these valves that open and close to allow the air to go to the first floor or the second floor or the third floor or any combination or all three. When the tech was here last April, he said, "Hey, one of the motors on your damper control is not working." Since the damper is stuck in the closed position, when the air comes on, it gets extremely cold right there at the damper and it cuts off. He said, "I need to change your motor. It's like 130 bucks, but it's okay, Home Shield pay for it." I said, "Okay, cool. Well, listen, you're here. Check everything else. I mean, you might as well. And I've never used you guys before, but I don't wanna have to pay a call-out fee to have someone else come out and do what you can do while you're standing here right now." He said, "Sure, no problem." He came down and said, "Nope, everything's fine. Fixed the damper, put on a new motor. You're good."
From April until about five weeks ago, everything was fine. Then I noticed the hot air and I called American Home Shield. They contracted the same company to come back. When the guy came back, he said, "Hey, your evaporator is leaking and you've lost two-thirds of your refrigerant." I said, "Okay. Well, can you seal it and then put some more refrigerant in?" He said, "No, it doesn't quite work that way. You don't fix evaporator coils." I said, "Okay. Well, can you just give me some refrigerant so we can be cool here for the amount of time it takes for us to get this fixed?" He said, "No, I can't, because I know that anything that I put in is going to leak out to atmosphere and that's gonna be against the law and I could lose my license and get in trouble."
I asked what should we do. He said the only thing we could do is to replace the evaporator. I'm in the process of selling the house, so that's the last thing I wanted to hear. But I can't sell the house if the AC doesn't work. We need to do whatever it is we need to do. He went back, did the paperwork, sent it back to American Home Shield, then I received an email communication from American Home Shield stating that they recognize that there's a problem with the evaporator and it needs to be replaced. They are not responsible for Freon though. It's like gas in your car, you can take it into service all you want, but they're not gonna put free gas in for you. They said, "So you're gonna have to pay for the refrigerant as we go through and fix this process."
When I asked how much it would be, the rep said, "Well, it's 15 pounds if the system is totally empty, and it will be about 600 bucks." She said if we don't use 15 pounds, then they'd charge me for what we used. Then she said, "Oh, by the way, your house was in 2013?" When I said it is, she said, "Well, there were code changes that came out in 2015. And since your system was already in place, and running, you've been grandfathered in. But the rule is, when you have a catastrophic system like this and you lose your refrigerant, then as we go to fix the problem, we need to add all these additional things to bring the system up to current code."
I asked her to tell me what that is. She ran off this list. Then, at the end, she said, "We're gonna do our part for what we're supposed to do, but the Freon and the code changes or upgrades are gonna have to be your responsibility. So, you're gonna have to pay $1,580 to fix this problem." I said, "I'm flabbergasted. Do I have to do the code changes?" She said, "Yes. If we enter the system, break into it, and do the evaporator change, and then we recharge it with refrigerant and we don't do the code changes, then we're gonna be held accountable." I had to do it. So they said, "Okay, fine. Just put a credit card number on file and we'll schedule a technician." Four guys came and they worked for about an hour and a half. It was a big job. It was a lot more than I thought it would be.
They replaced the evaporator, they did all the things they need to bring the system up to current code, and they recharged it with Freon. They did not use 15 pounds. They only used like 10. So, they dropped $200 off of my responsibility, and I paid them $1,380, and they walked out the door and I hadn't seen them since. Now, the AC is like it always has been. As a matter of fact, I'm able to hit my target temps and get the system offline probably 70% of the day. The system's really only working about 30% of the day. We're only running the air on the second floor and I've had no issue hitting target and for the system to act normally. It has a filter in the return, and when the air comes on, that filter gets sucked up because the filter is not as big as the cavity that it's installed in. So you can hear when it comes on and when it goes off.
I'm happy that we identified the problem quickly and we fixed the problem quickly, but I'm unhappy that I had to pay so much. Having the Home Shield warranty and listening to all the advertisements that they put out on TV and radio stating that, "If you have a problem with your AC, we'll fix it. If you have a problem with your washer-dryer, we'll fix it. If you have a problem with your disposal, your dishwasher, any home appliance, it's covered," and it wasn't covered to the extent that I thought it should have been. I had to pay $1,400 out of pocket. I'm selling the house, and I'm unemployed.
At the end of the day, everything that happened happened. When I sell this house, I'm gonna buy another warranty, and I don't think I'm going to go back into American Home Shield because of all of the fine print and the advertisement that they make stating that it's covered when it's not fully covered. That was a bit alarming. It really set my fiancée off too because we're out 1,400 bucks.

Everything was perfect when the contractor came out for our plumbing issue. We had a clog that he had to get out. We love American Home Shield. We tell everyone to get it. They’ve all been awesome every time we needed them. With our air conditioner, we had a clog right after we first bought the house and they fixed that. I love the submission process, it's online. I don't have to make a phone call. It’s so easy. Everyone they sent out has been great too. We've never had any bad experience, thankfully with AHS.

There is a piece that seals every time you close the refrigerator door. That came off on my refrigerator. Major Home Appliance came out and they said that they can tape it back in, which they did. That service was good. They thought that would be the easiest solution and it made sense. It's just that for some reason, the first time they sealed it, the stickiness didn’t hold in the middle part so the middle part keeps coming loose. I have to manually tuck it in every time I open and close the refrigerator. It’s been a week of usage. I need someone to come back and do the work again so that it’s completely sealed.
That aside, American Home Shield has very good service and having it has been beneficial. Instead of us dealing with a vendor and not knowing whether the vendor is going in the right direction or not, I like that American Home Shield is sort of in the middle and moderating. They make sure that things don't go in the wrong direction. We've been very happy with American Home Shield and I told my friends that they should get it as well. Our policy usually expires sometime in January and we plan on renewing.

Since before the Coronavirus started, I've been without a refrigerator in my kitchen. The freezer kept working but the refrigerator side quit. It was back and forth with Home Shield. I would have to unload my freezer and let the contractor work on my freezer and refrigerator. They would leave and think they had it fixed, but the temperature never got below 54 degrees. My refrigerator not working between all the back and forth and the Coronavirus shutdown.
I finally gave up and I rolled the refrigerator into my garage. I was very much not happy because I have two small children who live in my home, a three-year old and a six-year old, and I needed my refrigerator. I had to purchase one. Now, they are still coming back and forth working on the refrigerator that's now in my garage. It's plugged in and the freezer side is working perfectly still, but they're telling me they still need more parts and they're still working on it. That's a lot of money to put into an old refrigerator.
The commercials all say if they can't fix the appliance, they would replace it. But when? Are they gonna let this drag on for a year before they replace my refrigerator? I was very unhappy. But I was thrilled with the pool people who came out for my most recent claim. I sent the contractor, Tropical Pool, a picture of the part and the tech said that was all he needed and then he came. It was totally fixed and everything is working perfect.
Other than the one really bad experience with the refrigerator, my experiences have been fair but surprising. I had a hot water heater replacement and I was surprised how much it cost me because I had to get all of my connections up to code. I was surprised at that. Then, I had a couple of electricians come out to fix minor things and they did an okay job but one of them put the receptacle on upside down and water got in it. But Home Shield generally sends people who really know what they're doing.

I've had to call AHS twice within the past three months. I didn't have a pleasant experience with my water heater claim. I had some modifications and the reps were saying I had to pay a portion but that wasn't told to me initially. Once the water heater techs got to my location, they surprised me with a $740 bill. More recently, my washer would fill up but it wouldn't wash. I called American Home Shield and the tech they sent was wonderful. When he left though, my washer would fill up with water, and then it would go back out. So, I called him back and he came right away. He fixed the hose and so far, things have been good. For this one, I got a different representative that was thorough and I didn't have to call them back to ask what was going on.

Three years ago, I left Home Shield for a bit because they wouldn't fix a microwave. They said it wasn't broken. I said, "Well, it doesn't work," and they made it makeshift. I wasn't happy with that, so I stopped for a while. But then, I looked out there and there wasn't much anything else and I tried. I was without it for about a year and I said, "Well, I need to swallow it and go ahead and get the American Home Shield back." I did, and since then, I haven't had any problems.
American Home Shield offered a deal to do preventive maintenance for the heater, and they just discovered that in the heater, they said it was real low voltage. The tech said, "I don't have to change it, but I'll probably be back in a week. As soon as you turn on the heater, it's gonna go." He turned on the heater and he said that it's even lower. So they replaced it, cleaned it up, checked the filters, and done, they were gone. They were COVID-protected, came in, came out, and done. The tech was quick, didn't waste time and didn't need to talk to me a lot and just did what he needed to do.
I pay 600 a year. It would have cost me $300 on the air conditioner. Also, they were coming out for the garage door, but they don't do the railing, so I fixed it myself. I cancelled that one. Then they came out for a bathroom leak and the $100 was about the same exact amount of money that if I went to Home Depot and done it myself. I had them come out and double-check everything. So, it worked. But this last thing they had, and I saw that it was a pre-maintenance, which is smart on Home Shield's part because when air conditioners and heaters go out, they could be charged a lot of money for it. I've had three houses with them and I had rentals also with them, so it was well worth it.
Good afternoon David,

I called American Home Shield to file a claim. I was told that the contractor would contact us, or I should contact them if they don't reach out to us in a timely manner. The contractor came to fix the oven door, and they had to replace the hinges. The only issue that would have been better handled by both parties is that when he was done installing the oven door, he seemed to move out of their house pretty quickly. I was on a conference call, and I'm pretty sure my husband was as well. And unfortunately, my husband is not the right person to go over an oven door with because he never uses an oven door. So, it was after a few days afterwards that I started to do some cooking that I realized it doesn't seem like the door was closing 100%. Unfortunately, I didn't have the chance to talk to the technician after the installation, have him walk me through what he did and to check it with him.
I did call the contractor back. The oven’s working. We're able to use the oven. I called them and said, "Hey, this just doesn't feel like it's really closing all the way.” They said, “Just call American Home Shield, and then they'll submit a request to us, and then we'll send someone out.” The old oven door used to just close a lot more snugly. With this one, the light turns off and when you turn the heat on, you don't really feel heat around the door. Even my 12-year-old son's like, “No, that door is not closed all the way.” It just seems like it's not exactly where it should be. Other than that, our experience is usually very positive with American Home Shield. There's just a little longer call wait times with everything going on, but we've been very satisfied with them.

It's very user-friendly and it makes it easy to track where the claim is in the process. The app directed me to contact the contractor directly. I contacted him and once the appointment was scheduled, I received a text message confirming it. I like American Home Shield but sometimes, the people who've come out have not followed through or completed the assignment. The toilet was a continuation of a previous problem and it never got fixed. The technician came out to see it a second time but it wasn't leaking at the very time that he was there. I showed him a video of it but he said that he couldn’t fix something that was not broken. The next day after he left, it was leaking again. So, I ended up not using that toilet all that time until this claim with the shower.
The guy from Top Notch who came out was fantastic, pleasant and quick. The shower handle turns on and off well but the whole piece still pulls away from the wall. I mentioned to American Home Shield that the toilet was also broken but the guy said it wasn't in his record. He went ahead and fixed it anyway, which was very thoughtful. He did it within five minutes. There are no more leaks but now, the water has to be turned off the valves in the back. Because if it's turned on, it is a constant squeal. So, I was gonna see if the contractor could come out, look at it and find out what was going on with it and secure the handles to the wall of the shower. A follow-up from AHS would be great. The overall service was disconnected and impersonal but effective.

We had an issue with our garage door. The spring that pulled it up and down broke and we contacted American Home Shield through the website to have someone come out, look at it and fix it. We put that in on a Sunday. There have been occasions when it's been a while before somebody contacted us after we put in our request, but for this one, I got a call from Lake Anna Doors on Monday. The individual showed up at our doorstep on Monday evening. I was his last call that day. It was a 3:00 to 6:00, but he got here 6:15 because of Northern Virginia and the traffic here is difficult to anticipate even with COVID-19. The individual worked for 45 minutes, fixed everything, cleaned up the work area, and left. It was very quick service and it worked really well going through Home Shield.
Since this was a garage door, we did most of the work in the garage, so there was no need to come into the house. Those contractors that had come into the house have always come in prepared with shoe coverings and a mask. They took all precautions coming in. They do social distancing when they're there and perform their service, and then they exit the same way they came in. When their English isn't their first language, sometimes that's a little difficult, but that's the way we are today. The majority of the folks that come in have all been very professional. They're dressed accordingly and they provide the PPE that they need as well as use precautions when speaking with us and us with them.
Going through the website and setting it up to identify what the issue was, Home Shield's website could help a little more if, in their block where they say describe, they also put in there if it's an appliance. You select appliance, and then it should say model number, and then the description of the issue. That way, when they send that out to the vendors that might be available to fix that item, they already have the model and they already know what the issue is based on the description.
Sometimes when we had an appliance go out, we would get a call from the vendor who will come out and do the repairs. One of the things they would ask for is the model number, so that they can look it up and see if they have or don't have the parts. They then come out and physically do their initial review and determine what's needed. If you select something on the website, you should put in there at least what the model number is. That would improve the service a little more and give the vendor that's coming out more information prior to arranging a date to visit.

I had the same kind of claim that I'd been having for the past year and a half. It’s our refrigerator and it was the icemaker which has been for a while. It was low on Freon. I requested the same people who fixed it before to come out because they were familiar with it. I got that approval from American Home Shield. Ken came out and checked it, and it was low on Freon. He filled it up with Freon, which indicates to me that there might be a leak somewhere in the system. So, if this happens again, we might have to go back and redo this again. But their company is great. They're here when they say they're gonna be here. They fixed the product and go on to their next assignment. They're very professional and very good.
I had something go wrong with a leaky pipe in the slab in the wall eight months ago, and it was over $3,000, and American Home Shield only paid me 1,000. I agreed to pay $240.00 for FREON GAS and they said they will order the replacement part. This is over a month ago and the AC unit has not been repaired yet! Last week I called American Home Shield at least 5 times and spent over 8 hours on the phone listening to Jazz while on hold forever. They made lots of promises, but they all just lies! Nothing gets done! Another week without AC! Should I need a lawyer to collect my insurance claim?
UPDATED 10/29/2020: Can you give a 0 star reviews? That is what this insurance company should get! Filed a claim for a repair on a AC unit! Filed a service request order on 9/23/20, not it is 10/26/20 still no repair done. Tenants have been left in Florida for over a month without Air Conditioner! American Home Shield hires technicians that have very bad reviews! To save money? They are hiring cheap labor?
AAA All Brands Appliance came to look at the AC unit and they diagnosed that the AC compressor needed to be replaced... They also calculated a out of pocket expense of $240 for FREON GAS (the bottle of freon gas doesn't cost that much) I accepted to pay the out of pocket expense... A month later they told me they don't have the replacement part yet! (this was yesterday)
I called American Home Shield again and they told me that AAA All Brands Appliance was going to call me yesterday to schedule a final repair time and day, and that if they didn't call by the end of the day they would escalate the claim... Escalate to what? The Repair company never called, I have been on the phone for over an hour listening to jazz music as they put me on hold. Again I got told today AAA All Brands Appliance is going to call me today... Simply they are a lousy insurance company they are prompt to take your money but when you call or ask for service they take a extra long time to perform the repair. My name is Pedro ** and I have a property management company.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Placed a service request for my AC unit. A week later the service company showed up and told me the compressor needed to be replaced. Agreed to and they told me there was a extra charge. Agreed to pay the extra cost. They told me they will have to order the part. Over a month now and they still don't have the part. Spoke to a representative at American Home Shield and she told me they haven't ordered the part because it needed to be paid for before they send the part! Outrageous, a warranty and they have you pay for the parts? I asked to speak to a supervisor and they put me on hold for a very long time (still waiting). Over 30 minutes now listening to Jazz! Wow what a horrible service! Need my money back! Paid for insurance for many years and not getting anything back. This is a scam! Beware. Don't believe in their promises!

Since I have no other residential property for AHS to cover and I'm not financially able to spend hundreds of dollars on a warranty for a prospective buyer due to a 75% loss in income, AHS still feels the need to charge a cancellation fee. I have only utilized the warranty 2 times in the last 15 years. I'm sorry but I think AHS has gotten more than their fair share out of me and charging a cancellation fee, especially in these times, is offensive. Won't be using them if ever I'm provided the opportunity to own a home again.

Saulter’s Appliance Repair came out and they looked at the oven from about 10 feet away. They said we broke the oven door by putting too much weight on it, but they said to us it was okay. They said they'll have the hinges replaced. They also stood away from the refrigerator when they looked at it and said, "Oh, that's easy. It's just one little part. We could order it." They then reported to AHS that we forced the oven door at more than a 45-degree angle, which caused it to break. The door opens at a 90-degree angle. You can't put anything in it at 45 degrees. The door doesn't open far enough.
That first contractor was completely out of line. Another thing he said was that the refrigerator was on a recall, so he shouldn't even do anything. That particular unit was not on recall though. That guy never showed up and never replaced the part for the refrigerator. He dropped the entire thing. Everything he did was “mishandled on purpose.” He should lose his license and be put out of business. I don't know why he's working. I'm in real estate for 33 years and I've never seen anything like this. I've been using AHS forever too. Anyway, AHS sent somebody new and they fixed everything. It was not a problem at all.
The second guy came in perfect. He said, "Yeah, this is very common. It happens. It's always about the fourth or fifth year. Very normal." He ordered the parts, got everything and put them in. He did absolutely great. That's what I know of AHS. They usually come through that well. It's very easy to submit claims too. I do it online and they always said that the contractor would call within 24 to 48 hours. Both contractors did.
I don't like American Home Shield's customer service though. I had to talk to an upper level person. The problem with them and all businesses today, they work with, "Hit this exchange, this exchange, this number, this number," and you go where you're going. Whatever the first guy put in their computer system is all they looked at. I don't know if they're trained not to think, not to look and not to handle. All they did was repeat what the first guy said and that's what made me very frustrated. I had to write a letter to their legal department to get their attention and then the internal manager ended up calling us. Overall, I've tried other home warranty companies and they're all the same. They're not great, but American Home Shield at least came through.

He had to troubleshoot a little and then he decided to drain out one of the lines. I drained half of it, so he just had to drain the other half. I still had to pay $100 for this claim, so I lost on this one, but I'm feeling all right about it. Overall, we are doing great with AHS.
Initially, when we signed up, the web portal didn't work. I had to call and every time, it was bad, but that’s been fixed. I don’t expect a uniform experience though. They've got to make money somehow. Paying that deductible is the only downside. Still, we’ve tripled our money, so we’re very happy. They’re very responsive, and they don't try to nickel-and-dime us on every call that we've had. They seem to pay out, and they seem to hire good contractors too. I've told all my friends and family already that they need this unless they have a brand new construction home. For $500 for the whole year, there's no question about it.

We've called AHS four times and we had an issue with one of the contractors that came out. Our fridge stopped working and the contractor said he was coming one day but he didn't and we rescheduled. Then, when he was coming out, he didn't call and say between what times he would come. He just showed up at our house. And he refused to come into the house and wouldn't do anything. He yelled at my husband and my husband told him he needed to go. AHS sent another company out and they were great.
We've also had Chesapeake Appliance come out for the dyer and they said that it needed to be replaced. The tech sent it over to AHS and they called. I was at work and the lady said she needed me to be at the house to answer questions because she needed measurements and things like that. I asked her to call me back and she didn't. Then, I kinda just forgot about it and it got pushed at the back. When this whole thing happened, my husband talked to them about it and she was supposed to send him an email but he never got an email. Overall, though, Home Shield is worth it. When the one company comes out, it's beneficial and it saves money to a degree.

The toilet won't flush. I had to flush it three or four times. K & S Plumbing Services came out. The tech asked what was going on. He used a little machine and found two plastic pieces in the toilet. He was done in 15 minutes. But right now, sometimes I still have to flush the toilet twice, but not three or four times. Also, my water bill was higher this month. It's $90 and has never been that high. Other than that, the tech was excellent. He communicated well and was fast. He showed me what he got out the toilet. It was my first claim with AHS and a great experience.

I like that I can just go online and file the claim, and somebody can come out quick. It's easy to deal with. When the dishwasher stopped working, I filled out the claim online. And then, the company, Ramey, called me. I did it over the weekend, so they called me on that Monday and asked what was wrong with it. They came out the next day and they fixed it within 20 minutes. The tech explained to me what was wrong with it. And if it happened again, that I would just need to submit again because it's something that just happened with it, with the movement of the dishwasher.

Our toilet wouldn’t flush and the handle was flappy. Pipe Solutions was assigned to our claim and they did great. Their tech came, looked at the toilet, and saw that a piece was broken. The flush valve was bad which caused the arm to break. The tech replaced the flush valve and the arm. The fill valve was leaking too so he replaced that as well. The work was very thorough and pleasant. I couldn’t ask for a finer job. We’ve had good dealings with American Home Shield in the past too. A company came out and did the kitchen faucet a while back and they did a fabulous job. Their rep was really nice.

I had a home that I lived in California with AHS policy for two years. On this house that I currently live in right now, I've had it for three months. Requesting service is simple. I've done it online, and then I've also done it live via the phone. Air Rescue Mechanical was sent out for a heating issue recently. The gentleman, Johnny, was phenomenal. super responsive, and did a great job. He did an assessment first and determined that there was a part needed. He said it was probably gonna be a week before the part came in. What ended up happening was that he was able to get the part in a day or two tops, and it was back up and running.
In today's world, right, wrong, good, bad, or indifferent, there's a lot of access to information through social media. As a member of society, like many others, have become dependent upon others that provide reviews of either service, service level, professionalism, follow-up, etc. I was lucky that they assigned me the service provider that they did, but I've also had other claims that I filed that the first person that was assigned to me when I looked them up on Yelp and other reviews had very low ratings, and also even disparaging marks against not only the company, but American Home Shield named specifically in the comments as well. I don't know how often they review or what the process is for review for any of the service providers that they use, but I would just ask that if they don't have a formal process, they probably wanna develop one. They're representing American Home Shield in one way or another.
The reviewer provided that not only was the service was bad, but when they called American Home Shield, American Home Shield was aware of the poor service that this provider had in the past and they have a reputation and a track record of providing bad service. They just continue to use that provider and so I don't know if they have a process but when it's a disparaging remark and it's on Yelp, so they can dispute it. But at the end of the day, it's just a reflection of their company.

Home Shield's website is a little jacked up. It's hard to find the number to call and what's covered versus what's being sold. It took me a while to figure out how to call. It just kept trying to sell me something versus showing me where I needed to go bcause I already had the service. But once I got ahold of someone, the claims process was fantastic. One of the questions I had was it said there was $100-something and I didn't know if I was supposed to pay that before the tech comes here or after. It was a little confusing but I've got it all worked out now.
I had a claim for a range top that's 20 years old. Maple Leaf Mechanical came in, figured out what part they needed, and then ordered the part. The tech was always early for every one of his appointments and he wore his mask. Both visits were very cordial and very nice. He got the job done the range top is working. It didn't go as well with the AC but it was just because it wasn't covered and I didn't like the guy. And that was five years ago. The last three times we've dealt with Home Shield has been good.

They went underneath the house to inspect the pipes underneath. They did a thorough job so I didn't have any issues with their service. Everything seems to be flowing smoothly now. I've had a few issues and American Home Shield has been able to send somebody out pretty quickly. It's pretty straightforward and I don't have to find a predetermined person.

It was right when we moved into our home. The water heater was acting weird. It wasn't producing as much hot water as it should. The contractor came out on the appointment time that was set up. It was quick. The problem that was happening with the water heater wasn't happening when the contractor was there. So, I understood that they couldn't do anything either. At that time, nobody had used the water heater in so long. The water heater is an older one but it's not to where it needs to be replaced. By this time, there were just two parts that needed to be replaced.
Recently, the water heater completely stopped working. I called in the claim to American Home Shield at 8:30 in the morning and by about 1 o'clock in the afternoon, I had received a call. I was at work so I let the call go straight to voicemail. Within about five minutes, they called again and I noticed it was a local number. When I answered the call, it was the local contractor saying that they could be at my home within the hour, and they gave me about a three hour time frame, which was a little bit long for me but I made it work.
I had my brother-in-law there at the house and he said that the contractor was in and out within an hour. The problem was located, fixed and done. By the time I got home with my son, everything was working and checked, so it was fine. We were satisfied. They left the old part and when I looked at the invoice that was emailed to me, they said exactly what was wrong. They tested the water while they were there to make sure that it was already hot. They let us know how long it would be until we would get a full tank of hot water. We're a family of six and so there's constantly showers going on or dishwasher or our regular washer for clothes.
It's been a very seamless process with AHS. The first year that we bought our home, the contract was paid for and then when the contract expired, it rolled over to our responsibility. That in itself was very easy. Cost-wise, it's very inexpensive as to what it covers. It's worth the price. The times that we've had to use it, AHS has been attentive and understanding. They have given us prompt time and it’s not just any company that they pluck out. The contractors seem very trustworthy and honest companies. Overall, we've been very satisfied and I don't see us switching any time soon.

When I called, Home Shield sent Air Dynasty. They came out, did their diagnosis and the technician said it was the evaporator coil. He showed me some pictures of some rust and stuff. It was leaking. He showed me all the system. And he said, based on what he saw, my out of pocket cost would be between $1,200 and $1,400. And he would get with AHS and get a confirmation on the pricing. They called me back the next day. They said it would be $1,800. They said AHS would pay for the evaporator coil and the installation. Of course, I had to pay for the Freon, which Home Shield is not being fair to the consumer when it comes to Freon. The rep said I needed a duct, something with the ductwork, a new drain pan, a new drain line. It was out of code for the flow switch, and I needed a hard cap.
This house was built in 2011. I got to thinking, "Well, that's quite a bit of stuff that's out of code for a 2011 home." I didn't say anything. I just went ahead and said, "Okay." They said it would be $1,800 dollars. I said, "Can you guys give me a discount?" And then they said, "Yes. But I'll call you back. I'll get with my boss and see if we can get a discount. And I'll call you back." She called me back. She said, her boss said, "You can get additional 10% if you fill out a review online." I'm like, "Well, you guys really haven't done any work." And I gave the technician a 5 for coming out and explaining everything, and his diagnosis. So, I said, "Okay. I'll go online and do it."
But when I went online, I started reading the reviews of other customers. Every review that Home Shield had had a 1. It's the same exact thing they told me that the evaporator coil that I needed would cost $1,800. And then they sent a guy named Ignacio over the next day because I said, "That's too much money to pay out of pocket. For a little bit more money, I can get a whole new system in and out.” And the same thing he told me, it's the same thing he told the reviewers.
I called Air Dynasty the next day and I said, "Look, you guys are scams. The same thing your technician told me, it's the same thing in these reviews." She said, "Well, we're trying to rectify the problem. We've straightened out things since then.” But no, you can't have straightened things out because the same exact thing he told me was the exact thing in the reviews.
I called AHS back, and I got a second opinion to come out. He said the system is up to code. He couldn't find anything wrong. It is full of Freon and everything. That assured me that Air Dynasty is a scam. Based on the reviews that I saw and what they told me as well, they're scammers. I called AHS and I said, "Look, you guys need to remove Air dynasty from your contract list. They are scammers. They're no good. Their reviews are bad. How can you guys send out a company with reviews like this? Are you guys reading the reviews of this company? You can't be, because if you were, you wouldn't have never sent them out to me in the first place." So, I called the Better Business Bureau and they said I would have to file a claim online, which I'm going to do, because Air Dynasty are scammers.
The second opinion contractor MJ Mechanical came up and their technician said he couldn't find anything wrong with the system. It's not leaking. He showed me the gauges where it was full of Freon. He said it was up to code. He said, "I don't know why he told you you're out of code." I knew I wasn't out of code anyway because the house was built in 2011. I didn't need a flow switch, drain pan, drain line, hard cap or any ductwork. That's all their scam is to get money in their pocket because they wanted to make more money than what they would pay the contractor for replacing the evaporator coil, which didn't need replacing. And I don't know what happened with the unit. It made some noise and it stopped cooling. But it could have been a fluke. But the second opinion contractor didn't find anything wrong with it.
Home Shield is really bad on the consumer when it comes to AC. We pay this money for warranty. We pay $100 service fee. They come out, we got to pay $1,800, $2,000 to get a repair done. And then we got to pay all this money for Freon. That's unfair for what we have to pay. And then, their customer service is horrible. They give us people that we can't understand when we call. Out of five words that they say to me, I can only understand one. I need someone that can speak good, clear English and then can understand my point. Until this is straightened out, I'm very dissatisfied with the service, the customer service, the contractors.
I had a refrigerator back in February of this year. It took them to July to fix my refrigerator. I kept telling the technician, "Guys, you all not looking in the right place." "I'm the tech. You don't tell me what to do. If you don't want me to do it, then I'll cancel the job." "But I'm telling you, I worked in a technical field for 36 years. I know how to troubleshoot." And this guy was like, "No. I'm the technician. You know what? I'll cancel the order. Cancel it. Cancel it." Home Shield needs to revamp their system completely.

American Home Shield's contractor repaired everything I requested. I had three problems, the first being a washer that was not completing any program until the end. My second problem was a refrigerator that was making noise that comes and goes. Lastly, I needed to repair the sparks for the left part of my gas stove. Initially, my issues were applied to one of AHS's agents. A tech from there came and did something. However, I experienced the same problem after a little bit. AHS then sent Ace Appliance and their tech did all three of my appliances excellently.

One time, my furnace would kick on and wouldn't ignite. It blew cold air. I submitted a claim and Climate Heating and Cooling called the next morning and let me know that they had an opening. They came out that morning and got the furnace to where it would stay working. It turned out that when it was worked on before, when a new motherboard was put in, the wiring harness was not changed. It was the following week when the new harness came in, which I didn't think was bad. They put it on and they were really good.

The service tech American Hoem shield was from Air Majesty and he was not able to come out until Monday. when he came, he said he could not get the AC to give off any codes. He couldn't get the problem to replicate itself and said that there was no issue going on right then. But if the problem arose again, I had 60 days and I wouldn't have to pay again. I was to call if there were any other problems.
The issue happened again on Saturday and we did the same thing. We turned the AC off then once it defrosted, put it back on. It was hot that day and I was baking so the house was extremely hot. I tried turning the AC off then on again and it worked. I guess it was just gonna be a weekend occurrence. I gotta wait for it to happen in the week. I could not get the AC to replicate the issue. The faucets in the house and the ones outside weren’t doing what they were supposed to, and the water tank wasn't heating the water properly. It wasn't getting enough flow from that. I called American Home Shield, and I got a text and my husband got a phone call to let us know as to when to expect the contractor. For the first one, the young lady who took my request got it all jumbled up. I was notified by A State Plumbing that they only had one item that was to be checked and it didn't have the other request that I needed on there. So, I called AHS and talked to someone and everything was averted.
Everything was impeccable with the service provided by A State Plumbing. My bathroom is furthest away. I had to wait the longest to get my hot water, and then it ran at a slow pace. I'm on a time limit when I get up in the morning, so waiting around for water to get to me and heat up is not good. But since the issue has been corrected, everything works fine although my husband's faucet is a little slower than what it was. Still, I wouldn't own a home without American Home Shield. They've not let me down and I don't expect them to.

I'm computer-illiterate, so if I say that it's really easy, it is. I've only had to pay the one-time fee, and they've come out and fixed the problem. The very first time they came out was for my air conditioner. The guy who came was very professional and polite. He looked at my AC and said the problem was the compressor. He goes, “This is something that’s typical. It goes out on these air conditioners outside, the outside part of it.” He came back the next day when he said he was gonna come then he fixed it, and it's been working ever since.
When the pipe for our master bedroom bathroom shower was busted, we took our showers in the guest bathroom. The first time the contractor came out, he fixed the hot water faucet in the guest bathroom and he did that lickety-split. He was wonderful. He knew his stuff and he was very polite, well-mannered, and professional. In our master bedroom bathroom, he picked the drain up and went, “Oh, yeah, this pipe's broke. I'm gonna have to have a helper to come back to get underneath there while I'm on top.” That was Thursday of last week and he said they'd be here 8 o'clock Monday. They were here at 8:30 and they got it done.

My husband put the service call to American Home Shield. We feel good about the person that came out. He did a good job. It was a fuse that had blown. He was here longer than an hour and a half. As far as AHS, we were kind of finicky about who they're sending in regards to electricians with our plumbing system because we keep the same guys for our well, and we don't know if they know what they're doing. But, overall, they're very responsive, so it's fine.
We feel that it's a little tedious if you have multiple items that have the same issue. We had more than one fan that were acting up, and the system only allows you to put in one fan. Fans aren't very expensive, so we think that you could call in and pay $75 for the same type of tech to come out to check three fans. When it would probably be the same person, same company, three times is excessive. They say, “Okay. Well, you would have to pay additional if there are more than, I don't know, whatever the cap is that is covered by AHS.” It's the same item. I don't think we should have to have multiple service calls if it's the same item multiple times.
It's beneficial to just know that if things break, if they're not slowly needing to be replaced, you don't have to worry about paying the full cost of getting gouged by some irreputable company. That kind of falls on AHS to do the legwork of finding someone that they think will do a reputable job and send them out because both of their names are on the line. That takes the hassle away from the consumer. So, that's helpful. Then, within generally 48 hours someone goes at the property trying to assist the consumer with whatever issue they're having.

As long as I don't need to talk to a person, if I can function with the automated stuff, everything goes fine. If I have to talk to a person, that becomes a bit of a pain. The only thing I would like to see change, and this is the only time I ever need to talk to a person, is if Home Shield assigns me a contractor. It would be nice if I could pick the contractor. All of the contractors I've dealt with have been top-notch with the exception of one, and that's the one I refuse to deal with moving forward. It was my first year that I had the warranty and the guy was rude, obnoxious and very condescending. My recommendation was to remove him from the list of contractors. I don't know if he's still on the list, but the few times I've been assigned to him, I called and asked that somebody else be assigned. But other than that, everybody has been very good and I've had no complaints.

People need to make sure and look at the policies to see if there are extra things that has to be added. When our deep freeze went out a few months ago, I thought it was included in our policy but it wasn't. It was a stand up freezer and that was not included on our policy. We also had to get an extra add-on for our well since we don't live in the city limits. So if they live outside of the city limits or have extra appliances that aren't like your refrigerator, stove, microwave, then they need to make sure that they don't have to be added separately.
Other than that, the claim submission process with AHS is fairly simple. Most of the time, I can just do it online. But every now and then, I have to make a phone call and that takes a little bit longer, but it's not super difficult to put in a claim. Their reps are normally easy to reach and I haven't had any problems with them. Recently, my icemaker on my fridge went out. Prodigy Appliance Repair came out and diagnosed the problem. Then, they ordered the part, got it in within a week, and took care of it. So it was handled pretty quickly.

After I filed the claim, they listed the plumber’s phone number. I called the plumber directly but if it's not an emergency, they don't come out right away. So, I had to wait and that meant I went without water and I had a flood. So, it should be listed on there if it's a regular claim or it should be listed as an emergency if you need somebody out right away.
The plumber was perfect. He knew exactly how to fix the problem and how to file the claim. Sometimes when you hear a plumber will come out, they don't know how to work with the warranty company. This plumber knew the steps that he had to follow and it was approved. Then, he went and got the parts and started right away. So, that was very helpful. He solved the problem that day. He was able to snake the drain and take care of our issue, and we were able to clean up all the water. Luckily, it didn't do any damage. We just switched from the other company to AHS. This was my first claim and it was the first time and it went smoothly. Everything is to my satisfaction. So, I’m happy.

We had three claims with AHS and we've been very pleased with two of them. One of the claims was for our air conditioner and it was taken care of. American Home Shield and the service were great. Then, I had a claim on the dishwasher and the serviceman and American Home Shield were great as well. But we're struggling tremendously with trying to get somebody here to take care of our furnace. We have a baseboard heat furnace, not a boiler system, and for whatever reason, that seems to cause trouble on getting somebody here. We're just requesting somebody to come look at our furnace for a preventative annual checkup and it almost seems like it would have been better if I would have said there was a problem.
We had to call them twice on this and I was not happy at all with the last customer service person that we dealt with. We clearly said we need somebody to take care of a baseboard heat system and she scheduled us to have somebody take care of us but it clearly said on the service request form that it was for forced air system. After being on the phone for a long time, I'm not happy with the wait time and that's really problematic, we still ended up in the same situation and I was very frustrated.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

American Home Shield was great. We had a bathtub and when I went to turn on the hot water, it didn't have hot water coming out. American Home Shield made arrangements for a plumber. It was very easy to schedule the appointment and they were very prompt about getting back to me. I had the $75 deductible paid online. A plumber came out and repaired it. It works fine. The whole thing was up and down three days, from the time I contacted them till repair. It wasn't one of those things that were an emergency like water was flowing on the floor or anything like that. The guy just had to replace the controller on the tub, so that hot water would come out. The poor old guy had a heart condition and I thought he was gonna have a heart attack on me. Other than that, he was pretty good. Overall, the experience was excellent and I would recommend American Home Shield.

They contacted me the next day, and they were out on the next day and was able to fix the problem very quickly and easily. The dryer is working fine now. American Home Shield sent Kasey's out to work on my microwave and my stove. The microwave wouldn't work. Every time we punched in a button, it would do some funky stuff. When I called American Home Shield to file a claim, they told me that somebody would call. They reached out and everything was good from that. Kasey was the second company. The first company was rude and nasty, so I told AHS I didn't want them. They rescheduled it.
The stove is still not working. It's not getting up to temperature. I just haven't had a chance to call them today. Kasey put a new thermostat. They did something to the stove, and I put it at 400 over the weekend to cook something, and I pressed the temperature up and back down just to see where it was at, and it still hadn't reached 400. We have a chest freezer that broke and we found out later on that it's not covered. So, we had to trash it. That was a little disappointing. But other than that, my experience has been wonderful.

They were friendly and professional. Everything was fine. I had a really good experience with 7 Cities.
We put in three claims within the last two weeks, and one of them was to fix some ductwork and that went very badly. The claim ended up getting denied. The reason for it being denied was absolutely ridiculous. I tried contacting the HVAC company and getting ahold of them was hard. They wouldn't return my phone calls. I called American Home Shield and tried to talk to a supervisor about it and it was next to impossible to talk to a supervisor. I still haven't talked to one. None of them have given me a call back. I've requested a call back two or three times. I called the HVAC company and talked to them. They were gonna engage with American Home Shield and try and talk to them for us, which didn't work. So then they were gonna contact American Home Shield and have them call us, which they haven't done.

The toilets weren’t flushing. They were backing up. That was after the hurricane. And then, I had a leak behind the downstairs shower. And then, the upstairs shower was not working. It was a bunch of different plumbing problems all at once. I called Home Shield out. K & S Plumbing did a great job with what they did. Very courteous, professional, and got it fixed and handled. But the unfortunate thing is almost every single thing that I bring up to Home Shield, I pay 100 bucks for them to send somebody out. And typically, whatever I'm bringing to their attention is never covered. I always come out of pocket. Lately, I've been denied by every single insurance on every single thing. And I'm just getting so tired of paying insurance when none of it works for me.
When I call Home Shield to see if something is covered or to see if I could file something to get somebody out there, it would be really great to be able to talk to a representative. But you're forced to do it on the automated system or put it through online. And the bad part about that is, like this last plumbing issue, it doesn't really fit in with the criteria of what the automated system is asking. And it doesn't fit in with what you're trying to put in online. With the automated system, I could not get a representative. I was trying to say what the problem was. It would not let you tell what all the different problems were. It will only let you list one. All I was able to say is toilet, that is it, when I have three toilets messing up and two showers. My card is already charged 100 bucks before they even know what the problem is, and I cannot get to a representative.
From there, I see where they charged me 100 bucks because I can't go any further with their automated system until I pay. After that, I gotta get back on the phone with them to finally get to a representative to talk about what my issues are. But I can't ever speak with a representative until they run my card. I get the representative on the second go-around, but that's only because they charged my card. I can never speak with them beforehand and say, “Hey, do you cover this before I go through all this rigmarole?” I can't even get to somebody to even tell me that at all. They have to charge me before I can even know if it's covered to even go through all that. That's more than annoying. And then, it seems that if it looks like whatever it is, is gonna be covered, and they send someone out, I get somebody to come out but it's the company that tells me, “No, that's not in your policy.” "So what do y'all cover? I'd like to know.”
I can call any company and say, “Hey, what would you charge to look at this?” or “Can you come and give me a free estimate?” They can do that all day long. But when I go through Home Shield, if I just wanna know if something is covered, I don't wanna be charged 100 bucks before I can even speak with somebody to know if something is covered.
I paid 100 bucks, and then I do speak with somebody, it still seems like those things are covered. But it turns out they're not. By the time I find out, the professional is already here, looking at me like I'm an idiot and asking me if I wanna proceed or not, and it's us coming out of pocket. But I've already paid Home Shield 100 bucks just to send the person. I'm coming out behind. If I would have called the company myself for them to come out and say, “This is what it's gonna cost out of pocket,” I would have saved at least 100 bucks because I wouldn't have a finder's fee. That happened with the air conditioner unit a couple of months ago. It's a vicious cycle. They refunded the $100 on the AC thing because my husband was pretty irate he ended up having to pay that guy over $700. That was appreciated.
I like the comfort of knowing that I have insurance through Home Shield when something stupid happens, because my husband and I are the king and queen of things breaking, and we're tired of this. We always come out of pocket. But I'm starting to wonder what do they cover? Also, the rate went up last year. Nobody told me. It just went up to 80 something bucks a month from 60. I happened to be going through my statement and I went, “Whoa, I’m paying $80 a month? I was supposed to be paying $65 or something." We’re reevaluating things. Other than that, Home Shield's customer service reps are great. They're on point. They send us good professionals that come out here and take care of the problem. It's just a system flaw.

I had a problem with the furnace staying on when I first tried to use heat three weeks ago. I had some techs come out to investigate that and they concluded that it was going to need just an annual cleaning. I scheduled that through American Home Shield and they recommended Sierra Mechanical Service. When their tech came out, he was here for a good while and while he was here, the furnace worked and came on and off better than it had for me, so I knew something was wrong. I just didn't know what. But he stayed long enough and checked it again, and it failed for him. So, we knew we had a bad gas valve. The technician then did some punching into his computer and sent the report through to AHS. And when he did that, he came back and gave me my options. He told me about the money that I was going to have to spend with the service call and to get things back working.
Then, he said he thought that what AHS offered there with the upgrade would possibly be interesting to me. And it was not only appealing immediately, but I thought about it for a little bit. Before that day was over, I called them back and said that instead of putting several hundred dollars into a 17-year old furnace and an air conditioning system, I'd rather just be done with it and be good for another 20 or more years with something. I've enjoyed the work that Sierra did and they were very professional. They came out real thorough and real explanatory with all the new stuff. Plus, they did a really good clean-up there of getting the old furnace and the old air conditioning system. Everything looks good and I've enjoyed the heating aspect of it.
Other than that, my account had the wrong name on it when I signed up with AHS. It had my brother's name on it and initially, they seemed to be going around saying that nobody could change it. I tried to explain to them that I was at my brother's house checking on stuff for him when I inquired with AHS then I signed up myself, and maybe that was where the confusion arose. I also had my brother on the phone to say that he didn't sign up for anything with AHS and that he hadn't been paying anything. Plus, I got an email through this process of surveys and the appointments that still had my brother's name on it. But maybe that has been corrected officially and I just need to check back with them.

American Home Shield helps with certain things. Certain things, they don't help. I had an issue before with them because they just say what's covered, but they never get down into the details of exactly what's covered with that appliance. There was a lot that I had to go through with my air condition, and they never told me what was really covered with it. I had to talk to someone and they sent me a copy of my contract. With my contract, it breaks down every appliance, if I ever have to call, what is covered and what is not covered.
Now when I had this with the refrigerator, I called in, saying that my refrigerator's leaking. It was clogged up because it was leaking and water was coming down. I wanted to see what they would and wouldn't cover. It's like a recording, they ask what you're doing a claim for, and you tell them, then after that, that's when they wanna take your money. They would call in 30 minutes or so, telling me that they have someone to come out and look at it. Ashman Appliances came out and they were excellent.

We have a claim on our washer and AHS thought that they had fixed the problem when the first service company came out. But then, they had to send another service company and they determined it was a completely different issue. They said that they probably didn't need to replace that logic board that the first company replaced because the problem ended up being the cold water valve. And if the cold-water valve doesn't work on a washer, it won't process through its cycles.
So, we're waiting now on that part to arrive and hopefully, to resolve the issue. It's tough because we have 13 people in the house and we've been using laundromats for two and a half weeks. So, it’s a little nutty. Besides that, the process seems to be pretty easy for scheduling. I started the process online, then I ended up talking to somebody on the phone as well. As long as I am able to log in, I would be able to see the status. They also gave good status on text messages and emails.
Other than that, the second provider was very personable and very communicative as far as letting me know where we were and what was going on. But the guy from first company was a little bit like a robot. I called him flesh-robot but not to his face. He came in and didn't really do any small talk. He just said he was here to look at the washer and the first time, he came in with no mask on. I directed him straight to the laundry room and he was there for 12 minutes. He ran a diagnostic then he said that this was the problem and he had to order a part, so he'd be back. And he left.
When he came back to install the part, it was exactly the same thing. I asked him to wear a mask that time and he did. But he came right in and just did the work. And then, he started what he thought was the calibration cycle, but he actually started the test cycle. He said it was going to take 30 to 40 minutes, then he left and never came back. He said when it was done, we should be able to use the washer. But he never ran the calibration cycle, which was what the second company determined when they came out. They also had to do some other testing to figure out what was actually wrong with it.
I have noticed that a lot of the companies that AHS partner with are not on the Better Business Bureau or they have extremely low ratings on the Better Business Bureau. I got some feedback on this as well from some people who have used American Home Shield before, I also did my own research before I called in on this project and asked if they had any higher-rated companies that do much better service. Oddly enough, the first one I got wasn't particularly great and I read that they aren't part of the Better Business Bureau. The second company is a part of the Better Business Bureau, but they had a significant number of complaints there. So, that's why I didn't go with them first. But it seems like the young man that came was more knowledgeable than the first gentleman that came from the other company by far.
So, it would prove better for AHS to see if they could get more companies on their list that have super-high ratings with the Better Business Bureau because that reflects on them. If they get the ones with higher ratings, that means that they're making an effort to partner with companies that are going to reflect well for them. My parents have used American Home Shield for their home, too and overall, it's been good from what I understand their experience was. For us, this is the first time we got a home warranty because we have some particularly large items like a pool and a spa. Also, it's a 20-year-old house and if you buy a 20-year-old house, there has got to be things that start to go south.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

I had American Home Shield years ago but I didn't have a good experience with them so I stopped using them. A few years later, one of my friends was telling me that the management was changed and they are doing a better job now so I tried them again. For the first call that I had with them for my refrigerator, they did pretty good. The second time was for the dishwasher that's still pending. The company who came to fix the problem was supposed to order something. I've called many times about it and they said, “We will contact you after contacting the company.” The dishwasher is still, up to now, not fixed yet and the claim has been open since 2019. It is annoying because the dishwasher has a panel where you click it on and off. Every time, my wife has to use some kinda tool like a spoon or a fork to reach that button. It doesn't look good.
This is the third time for the electrical problem which was a good experience. Omega Electric did a good job. They fixed the problem immediately. To keep American Home Shield at the top of the other companies, they could find a different company that handle those small issues especially when it comes to a dishwasher. In their opinion, it's not emergency. It's still functioning good but the front panel is really damaged and it should be replaced to be able to function better.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

When I talk to American Home Shield's representatives, sometimes there is a misunderstanding. I had to communicate a lot when I had a couple of issues. Still, once my problem is explained and their reps have understood, issues have gotten resolved. Having this warranty is beneficial to me. I'm a single woman and my house is new. It also will sporadically run when you're filling it up. Something isn't right. Also, the top of the agitator used to go back and forth. Now, it just goes around in circles. He said the bottom is supposed to do that. But the top is not supposed to go around in circles. It only went around in circles when you're spinning it out.

He said because it was fairly warm, he probably would have responded differently if we'd still been in freezing temperatures. He did the work and it worked for the heating. It was fairly late in the evening when he left. He got here kind of late but he did stay in touch with me the whole time.
As soon as he left, I switched the air conditioning and it failed again so we called him directly. He was on the road and said he'd be right back even though it was very late at night and he had a long way to go. He turned around, came straight back, and said, "Well, then, it's not what I thought. It's out here," and fixed it immediately. I was very impressed with the level of service and the commitment. The only thing I would have liked is for him to have looked at the air conditioning before he left. But I can't complain as he fixed it. I was very pleased with the service.

This is the first time I've used American Home Shield. I did the claim by phone and everything went very smoothly and very easily. They identified a local contractor and he called me promptly and got to the job within a day or so. So it was timely and excellent service. The garbage disposal as it turned out had to be replaced, and it was replaced. The garbage disposal was in a rental property. So I spoke with the technician on the phone and then he had his actual interaction with the tenant, whose feedback was very positive.

I had Home Shield years ago and I had a big problem with them so I stopped. But I heard some good things so I tried them again and started in June. The first call I made to them since was for the refrigerator. We had a leak in the back like something was broken. Foster's Appliances came out and they came out very quickly, quicker than I thought. They ordered a part and fixed the leak. Everything went well and smooth. I’ve been very happy with Home Shield so far. I’m steering everyone back to them.

My washer had been out for about a week. The customer service from American Home Shield and the other company for Supreme was great. But I hated to have to wait a week. It just so happened that my washer stopped washing on the last load that I had done. So I really didn't have to wash for another two weeks. So it worked out. I only had to go to the laundromat to wring my stuff out and bring it home to dry. The technician was very professional, efficient and courteous. He came in and had his mask on. He had to go in and out a couple of times to get the right pieces to do what he needed to do, but he wasn't there a long time fumbling around. He knew what he was doing, got it done and left.
I've recommended American Home Shield to other people for a long time, especially when people purchase new homes. I tell them that they should get a service for their appliances because you don't wanna purchase a home and then the next thing you know, you have to buy a refrigerator or stove or water heater. The company I had before was good but they didn't offer me any choices. If I had not been able to afford that, then I would've just been without a service. But I liked the fact that Home Shield offered me different rates depending on how much money I had.

The outlets weren't working and Home Shield handled it very professionally, efficiently, and quickly. The contractors came out two days after I submitted the claim. We also had a plumbing problem after the electrical problem. The plumber had to cut into the ceiling to fix the problem. However, Home Shield does not repair that. So, we're just with a hole in our ceiling until we found someone to replace it. Consider the age of your home, your plumbing and furnace units. If they're old or if you don't have the money that you feel it would take to do either the repairs or the replacement, get a warranty.

Our house was being flooded and I called American Home Shield. It was pretty easy because everything was automated to talk to a person. Just follow the prompts, put in my claim, and within a couple hours, the plumber was here. It was really smooth and fairly quick too. This was the first time we called and it was a good experience. We only had to pay $75 for the plumber to show up, give us the material and do the installation. Before I called them, I was calling around to get a plumber out here and I was looking at at least $500. But everything was covered and they took care of the problem. The warranty paid itself off already. So we plan on renewing every year.

Then he kind of gave us more insight into another issue that could arise if we don't stop doing something with our fridge. It was awesome.
American Home Shield has been great. It's one of the best investments that we've purchased because it's our first home. Their claims process is super easy. I hate how some companies make you do it over the phone. So, it was awesome to do it online with AHS. We had an issue with one company that we saw was gonna be able to fix our dryer for us. Now that I've discovered online claims, the process is really easy. When submitting a claim online, the site kinda guides you and gives you options as far as what you can say is wrong instead of having to explain up to a person what I'm dealing with. It submits it immediately, whereas over the phone, there's a delay. Some of their contractors are really awesome but some of them are not. We had an issue with our dryer and it took more than two weeks to get it fixed. We had four different repair guys come out. The end result being what it was, it should’ve been handled the first time.
The guy that came out the first time was terrible. But American Home Shield was fantastic. Whenever I had a problem with a vendor, I called them and the representative would tell me, “Well, let me find you another vendor. Let me take care of this right away.” They had somebody out here the next day. So it was nice that they took into consideration the fact that this was not a new claim.

I tried Saturday, left a message then called Monday morning but no one answered. It kept saying leave a message. I never did get to talk to anybody so I got online and filed the claim.
The contractor was on time. He diagnosed the problem and told me, “It's hard to get ahold of American Home Shield. I will get in contact with them to see if they are gonna cover this or not. I will get back to you this afternoon and let you know what's been decided.” But I never heard from them till 2 days later. I called Coastal Appliance and said, “I haven't heard back from the guy that was here. He was supposed to call American Home Shield and let me know what was going on.” The lady said that she looked up my thing and said the parts have been ordered. I told her I would have appreciated a phone call to let me know that. I'd been sitting here wondering what was going on with it.
Evidently, he got a hold of them and they gave him the green light to go ahead and order the parts. They were here Monday and put the parts in. However, I wasn't real thrilled with the guy that put it in because he told me, “If I'd have been out here the first time, I wouldn't have even tried to fix it.” But everything is going good so far. This is my first claim after being with American Home Shield a couple months and I really appreciate that. I'm very pleased with them. I did the claim in 1-2-3 then I got a callback from the contractor who had an opening that day within about an hour or so. It was a pretty quick process and it was the first time I've ever had that done. I've converted my heating system and I wasn't getting the push that I needed out of it. I haven't had any issues since the tech came out. I do notice that if I make an adjustment, it does pump it out like it used to.
It's easy to get things done as far as trying to get the service techs and also putting in the process of the claim. It goes smoothly. The biggest issue is people don't understand the necessity of having a home insurance policy to help with appliances and things. That's where a lot of people are going to have to dish out out of their pocket. They don’t take advantage of a company where you have this $100 deductible which can save you a couple thousand. I've had prior bad experiences with different organizations. I've done some homework and the biggest thing that American Home Shield does that is a benefit for me is the maintenance issue. The fact that American Home Shield doesn't hold it against you with maintenance issues to repair your service lets you sleep at night a little better. When I'm ready to renew, it depends on what I'm gonna get as far as the renewal goes.

I’ve been a homeowner for many years and when we bought the new house, American Home Shield has been great. I've been very pleased with them. It's really easy to go online and submit a ticket. I am notified that they got the request and I usually know within a couple of hours if they have assigned me to somebody to come work on whatever I've needed to be done. I know by the next morning what time the contractor would be coming. They stay pretty close to their time when they give them to you.
The board had gone out on our pool last month and a contractor came out and handled that. They handled it in a really nice manner and were pretty quick about it. They didn't make me wait out eight hours either. When my pump wasn't priming on the pool, Eden Pro Services came out and they were awesome. They gave me a tracker so I could tell how many minutes before the service person got there. With that, I don’t always have to be right here at the house if I know I can get back within 30 minutes of them saying they were on their way. Also, I can call their office and ask questions if I'm not sure what's going on. They've been very informative. When they couldn't come out and look at something, I was told I could call American Home Shield and Eden would get right on it. They have been great.

I had two back to back service calls with American Home Shield last week. When you turn on the water off and on in my tub, the rubber portion was broken. This was the first time I ever had to have that particular part replaced. The gentleman from C Mayes Plumbing said that it was wear and tear since it was old and worn out. He was nice and cool. I also had the cooling system serviced. HMS was giving a preseason inspection on the heating and cooling system. They took care of what they detected there.
I've been here for about three years and since I've been home, that's when things started going haywire. With things being tight financially, you just pay the annual fee and then when you have an issue, pay your deductible. I tell all my family and friends that they must get any type of home service warranty. Everything has been great with AHS for the most part. When the guys are on their way, I get a courtesy text message. Then, when the technician is coming to do the service work, they give you a call to say they are 10 minutes away. It's great because sometimes, I can't hear the doorbell when I’m upstairs in my office working or downstairs. I have no complaints at all.

Any contractor I've used from Home Shield has been pretty up-and-up. Johnson HVAC was fine as well. They came out for my plumbing issue from my shower. My issue is the limited information that Home Shield gives on the things that they do and don't cover. It seems like a lot of the issues are written for them not to cover them and to have additional services done. Not in particular from Johnson, but in most of the contractors that I've had come out.
I’d like to see more transparency with Home Shield and the way they handle requests and information. Also, the website is a little confusing. It doesn't give you a spot where you can choose “other” because of the limited amount of options that it gives you to choose. With the monthly charge, I was initially paying one fee. I hadn't even used it in almost a year to signing up then all of a sudden, it went and bumped up to a different fee without any real notice as to the pricing change month-to-month.
I had a furnace issue and I put in for what the issue was. It was the electrical box that was going to the furnace. They sent out a new contractor and they charged me again even though it was the same initial issue. I ended up having to pay that contractor to fix the panel because it was a panel that they no longer worked on due to fire hazards and Home Shield didn't cover that. They didn't cover anything for it. I’m at the point where I am probably going to, at the beginning of the year, be canceling and looking for a different home warranty company.

I’m having major issues with Home Shield. I've been going round and round with them for over a month for the same issue. All they're doing is playing games. My dishwasher doesn't work. They've sent out nine people. I have taken nine days off of work every day, losing a whole eight hours waiting for them to come. The contractor would be there for five minutes to give me another excuse, then they leave. To this day, the dishwasher still doesn't work, and it has been a month and a half.
I called Home Shield about my water heater. Six days went by, I didn't hear a call. No one showed up to diagnose it. I called a company to get it replaced, out of my pocket. I called Home Shield back, “Hey, can I send you the receipts?” “Oh, no, sir. You didn't go through us. We're not gonna help you. We're not gonna reimburse you or anything.” How long does a normal person wait without hot water in their home? Unfortunately, I have kids and a wife and I need hot water to wash my dishes, to take a shower. It's very important that you have hot water in a home.
It looks like both claims are going nowhere. So now, I'm trying to get a manager. I'm trying to get my money back. I don't know what to do. They send me letters in the mail with no return address, so I can't send the letter back to them. Every time I call, they say a manager is gonna call me back. I have yet to receive a callback. I sit on hold for at least two to three hours every day during my work period. It's unreal. I'm sure that is what is gonna happen today. I've been on hold since 7:30. Do not go with this company. It's a waste of your time, energy and money.

We had one plumbing issue in our bathroom which was pretty severe or something that the seller of the house should've informed us of but didn't. The first plumber that was sent out was not great customer service-wise. They only stayed for about five minutes and they weren't very open to talk about what the issue might be. They made a very quick assessment. We asked for a second plumber to be sent out and that one was great. However, it turned out not to be a plumbing issue. It was damaged tiles in the shower which isn't actually covered by the Home Shield coverage 'cause it's not pipes. That was a little bit annoying, and that's where the issue was, but it's not Home Shield's fault.
We also had a cracked pipe in our garage. It was leaking every time we've used the dishwasher. A guy came out to evaluate that and he said he would get someone out to fix it in a couple of days. That was all to be arranged through Home Shield over a week now and the second person hasn't come out yet, even with me leaving multiple voicemails with them and getting in touch with Home Shield as well to try and get them to figure out what was going on.
The claim submission process was very straightforward. We did it all on their website and it was really simple. The only issue we've had is the communication thing. Maybe Home Shield could be more discerning with who they partner with, 'cause it seems like we've had the experience of two different contractors now who've not been great. A better vetting process for the contractors that they use might not be a bad idea.

We had American Home Shield, and then we dropped it for a few years, and now we've had it for another 15 years. Mainly, we take the warranty for the big items in case we have to replace an appliance or we have a problem with the air conditioning or the heating. Last summer, we had a couple of problems with the air conditioning. We're in Texas and we had to wait several days. That was miserable. If the response time could be a little sooner, that would be great.
Recently, our toilet was constantly running and SDL Plumbing came on the third day, but there was a weekend in there also. Other than that, they were excellent when they came. We didn't stay in there while the guy fixed the toilet, but when he got through, he came out and told us what he had done and what was causing the problem. It was acting screwy. So, I had Richard's Appliance come out. A young man came out, looked at both of them, figured out what the problem was and said, “I have to order your parts, and then, we'll be back out to put them in.” About a week later, I got a call that said the parts were in. They scheduled me for installation of the parts, which was the following week. I wanted it done sooner only because I couldn't wash clothes. But there was nothing they could do about it. It was their schedule, and I understand that.
There was a mix-up in the scheduling that day. They were supposed to come out in the afternoon. It got mixed up, so he was later getting here. They gave me a 1:00 to 5:00 window. We thought that he had to do something. It was later and that was fine because I was here. The young man came in, and he had to bring somebody else because they had to take the wall oven out to fix it. They worked until 8 o'clock at night and fixed everything, ran everything to make sure it worked and they were gone.

They called to do the initial set up, and while they were setting everything up, I opened up the request at that point. The technician that came out was great. They did some minor adjustments. But it turns out that the AC unit isn't specified correctly for the size of the space that it’s cooled. The issue is something that they can't fix. The AC unit just cannot keep up with the heat that's being produced by the sun on the roof. It's like a loft area in the upstairs of my house.

The technician from Douglas Mechanical was great. He came to check the AC. The system was working but since I didn't understand much of it, he also broke it down to me. He explained in detail how it worked. He even gave me a speech about some of the stuff I could add to the AC just to make it last longer and have fewer issues in the future. I personally love the process with American Home Shield. Submitting the request online is straightforward and usually, in less than two hours, I get a phone call. It's pretty quick. Then the contractors come in with the masks and all the safety protocols that we're facing right now. So, I'm pretty pleased.

We have a whole house installed many years ago. This last week it failed and filed a request with AHS. After two attempts, we were sent someone but the tech stated he had no experience, no tools, and wasn't sure what to do! He borrowed a ladder and took pictures with his phone. The report came back that pieces were missing allowing AHS to deny the claim. It has missing pieces due to the motor failure. The CSR was uncooperative and when asked to escalate to a supervisor was told no one was available and would be called back. As you might guess no one did! I wanted to ask for a 2nd opinion as the first company tech had no experience but now cannot get cooperation. The first referred company had no experience with whole house fans and and at least told us that driving the request for the 2nd company who seems equally inexperienced. For the money it would be better to place in savings than to try to work with AHS!
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

Save your money. My husband and I have been swindled! We have lost hundreds of dollars on spoiled food. Several hours waiting on hold. A refrigerator that has been broken for a year. They magically lose the records that every service person has told them the appliance needs to be replaced. Today I called to speak with a supervisor. I told them I wanted it resolved or my membership canceled. They laughed at me! And then hung up on me. This is a fraudulent business. Do. Not. Purchase.
Tiffany,
We do apologize for the inconvenience and your work was not properly done. It is not our intent to cause a difficult experience related to your repairs. We do appreciate you for sharing your experience, and allowing us assist. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

The technician came in two days for the toilet tank that wouldn't fill up. He was very professional, efficient and quick. He knew what he was doing.

Whenever I have a problem, I just log on to my account online and select what the issue is, and go from there. Once I submit for a service call, Home Shield lines me up with a local vendor and they would either communicate through text messages or phone calls within probably a 24-hour period. It has been a pleasant experience so far.
My door would randomly not operate properly. I could close and open it. Sometimes I would leave the house or go outside, but when I would come back and try to open the door, it wouldn’t open. And every time I hit the button, I could hear a buzzing noise. Talking to the #1 Garage Door technician, he said it sounded like a capacitor issue, meaning that the power was getting to the capacitor, but it wasn't going from the capacitor to the actual motor. And that's what I was hearing with that buzzing. They replaced the capacitor, and I haven't had a problem since. They replaced all the parts back to the mechanism like it was before.
I had an air conditioning company come out earlier in the year and it was the same with them. They were very professional, knowledgeable, and explained the issues while I was having the issues. Overall, I've been pleased with it. At first, I didn't know if I could really trust the company Home Shield was setting me up with because I haven't used local companies before and have been pleased with it. But after going through the process, I haven't had an issue to complain about the vendors that they've used.

Submitting claims to American Home Shield is 100% simple. I either do it online or I call. Whatever I do, I always get an immediate response. AHS needs to drop the cost but other than that, it's a very good company.
When we first moved here, we had problems with the ventilation. Being new to the house, I didn't notice that they had the vents by the window. But I didn't feel there was enough air coming out of the vents. So, we called AHS and they had somebody come out. The guy came in and I told him the problem. So, he put the little wand thing up there to test the air and said that I had enough air out here. What I needed to do was to get something on my windows and put up some shutters. I said that I was gonna get that, but I wanna know if I had enough air coming out because I felt I’m hot in this room. He said no and that when we built the home, these stupid people put the things on the window. So, he was rude. I reported that and they haven’t used him since.
When I call AHS for plumbing issues or anything like that, I make sure that it’s not that company. And it wasn’t. The rest of them who came after that was perfect. The people were very professional and made sure they did a thorough job. They asked if we had any questions, gave us a card and told us to call AHS if we have any problems and they would come back.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

There was some faucet leaking. Then I thought the dials on my refrigerator lets me select the temperature was broken 'cause it never worked. It had 88 on it. American Home Shield sent somebody out to fix it. The first guy that came out said that the refrigerator door was bent, that it was my fault, they would not fix it, and American Home Shield would not pay for it. I didn't know where the first company got the fact that there was a bent in the door. The door was perfect. I issued a complaint to American Home Shield already about that. I called them back. They said that they would send somebody else out, but that if it was the door that was damaged, then I would have to pay another $75 for them to come out. They sent GE out, which it’s a GE refrigerator. The only thing wrong with the refrigerator was the icemaker was broken. The guy replaced the icemaker and it all worked perfectly.
My experience with American Home Shield is great. They're always pretty much Johnny-on-the-spot. I'm so glad that we have them. If we don't need them, we spend $74 a month for nothing. But if we need them, we save a lot more than that. Everyone that I ever talked to there was so nice, polite, and cordial. They always call me back when they say they're going to. I've thoroughly enjoyed working with them. They were very professional and they saw to it that my everything was fixed in my house and it was good.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.

Working with American Home Shield is very efficient and cost-effective. There is peace of mind knowing it's just gonna cost me a $100 deductible. I call one number and they take care of finding the contractor. When my pool pump motor went bad, I let them know about it. Their website is okay and does what it needs to do. It's quick too. But wish they have an app. I was then informed they would call within 24 hours. I usually get an email though. ABNation was the contractor and they were very efficient and did well. Everything's been perfect.

There was a plumbing issue that was backed up, and it was coming out from the tubs and the shower. I told the gal that it was a clogged plumbing issue and she was helpful, but after talking to the contractor, she said that I need to say this the next time, and so, she explained it. These little extras seem to get the service that we really needed faster, ‘cause they had to rewrite the job order. But overall, the gentleman that came out did an excellent job. I liked just paying $100 service call fee because it was a lot cheaper than calling the actual plumber and getting charged 300. We have a couple other issues that I'm gonna need to call in. Now that we have the insurance coverage, it's peace of mind.
When I first signed up for the policy, it wasn't clear. You'd think that you'd get like a printed package of what's covered. I had to go, search, seek, and ask for it versus just having it sent to me, hard copy. I like something in my file system versus that. It's like a life insurance policy. The last thing you wanna do is go looking for it. You want it to go right to it. It's sometimes hard to understand when somebody on the phone has a very thick accent. Then I call back and I'm getting a different name, but it sounds like the same person. I would ask who I am calling, it has to be internationally related. So I find that the English is okay, but the experience is not educated enough to just know what I'm talking about when I'm explaining a situation. But the service itself was really good.
Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs. Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

There was a leak for the back of the toilet. I think it was just the faucet for the shower. I thought it was a relay but it wasn’t. The faucet in itself wasn’t relaying for the tub. American Home Shield has a seamless process now. I just do it online, and then I get a call.

I usually just go online to submit claims because getting through on the phone is impossible. Everything goes into online. Anytime I need to call, it is very frustrating, but I just call from work and put it on speaker. Customer service-wise, when you do get through, the people are great. Getting a live person is my only complaint. Other than that, I'm happy.
The icemaker is having some serious issues. It barely works at all. If you’re really patient, you could get a bit of ice out of it. But then the flap is broken also, so it collects a lot of frost in there. The crushed ice doesn't work at all, and then the cubed ice worked a bit. Appliance Wizard and AHS both couldn’t find the part so we ordered a new refrigerator. We're very happy with the Appliance Wizard. I would like just them to come out anytime we have a problem. They're amazing. We've had them out several times now. They are completely professional, 100%, clean, knowledgeable, give us great feedback, and let us know exactly what's going on and what the next steps are. We've had other repairmen before, but those guys are top-notch.
