In the past, I've had my HVAC company work on my AC unit. But they didn't get ahold of me this year, so, I went ahead and took advantage of American Home Shield's offer. Then sent out a guy who was very nice. He did the service very quickly and very professionally. He seemed to be knowledgeable and he was wearing a mask while he was here. All in all, AHS took care of my claim and my experience was good.

The tech came out in October for my refrigerator claim. He said that he was going to have them order some parts. I contacted American Home Shield, and they said that the parts were definitely ordered. The parts supposedly came in November 3rd and I was supposed to be hearing back from the company to come back out. I just haven't heard anything back from them yet. Every time I call, I'm put on hold, and I just don't have time. So, I keep contacting them. Also, when I call American Home Shield, I'm put on hold, and I press 1 to get them to call me back. Then somebody calls me back, but they can’t really speak English. It's very frustrating where I almost gave up. But I previously had AHS before and they are a good company. This might have just been a hiccup to where they chose the wrong contractor.

The bathtub was clogged. My wife and I did everything. We used plungers and two bottles of Drano or Liquid Plumr but nothing worked. So we called American Home Shield, and they assigned Reliable Plumbing. They were here the next day, and they unclogged it within 30 minutes. This was the first time we've called and it was pretty simple. It was a good experience.

I paid the deductible for a client. It was July 10,2020 109* with a newborn baby the clients A/C stopped working. The company was to call to schedule a A/C vendor. The common 30-40 min hold to wait for a rep to answer was met with a "we are working on it" 2 times per day. After 4 days AHS said they do not have a vendor for the area. So it was fixed by an A/C company 2 miles away paid for by the client. ($240)(AHS did not reimburse client either) Los Angeles, Calif. Suburbs have plenty of A/C companies. I have called 2 times per week. Spoken to customer service workers that say "wait 3-4 days you will be refunded". Nov 11, 2020 no refund. Save yourself the disappointment in the lack of service. Before purchasing call for customer service, you will be met with a long wait before the call is taken. It should serve as experience to find a different company.

When I submitted the claim first, I had an annual check-up done on the furnaces. Then I wanted the same company to go and fix them. But it was a pain to get them to select the same company again. The representative was kind of arrogant and said that they have the right to choose who they want. That was the worst part of that experience. I don't know why they don't have a select company dropdown when you make the claim online. That should be fairly easy to make. But the contractor was very professional. We were quite happy with them. Overall, American Home Shield lived up to what they said they would do. But they're a little bit expensive. They can be little heavy to dance with, but overall good.

I have been a customer of American Home Shield for 10 years with multiple properties, and in this time we have had many good experiences, hence the long standing relationship. However, This past week I had an issue with a Water Heater on one of the properties. We have replaced other water heaters with AHS on other properties and have always had a seamless experience, however, this time did not prove to be the same. The technician came to examine the water heater and then presented me with $800 out of pocket fees that AHS would not cover. Not only did AHS not allow for a second opinion they only offered that we either take this technician and pay the $800 replace the water heater or take a cash out of $517, which wouldn't even cover the funds to purchase a new water heater.

Bottom line it will either cost me $800 or more to have my water heater replaced. I have replaced others in the past and the most I paid out of pocket was $250 for possible permits or valves not covered. It is not fair that the technician they are using is forcing me to pay $800 for valves, permits and other ridiculously overpriced items. This is either a scam where AHS is getting a payback from the technician or this all does not make any sense. Severely disappointed with professionalism and customer service offered.

AHS has been pretty good. They responded when I needed them and that's a good thing. They recently sent out a tech from Delta T HVAC and he was a little bit late, but he got the work done quickly. I also had a plumbing leak and I ended up having all of my plumbing replaced. All of it wasn't covered, but the amount of money that the insurance company was paying was deducted from my bill to have it replumbed. Aside from that, AHS replaced a faucet for me and had a custom tile. And I will be calling them soon for a spigot faucet replacement.

There was a problem with the main electrical fuse box, the south side of the house. That was taken care of by both the A & R and American Home Shield. The last work that's being done is the outside work, laying down the new pipes that go from the street level to the main electrical underground lines to the house. It has taken them two months to get to the finishing job, but it will be all finished over between sometime by the end of this week or early next week.

Just recently, my heating element in my combined air conditioner-heating unit went out on me. I was very pleased with the group that came in and worked through American Home Shield. They found what the problem was. They needed to replace the circuit board. They ordered it. And it was all taken care of very rapidly and very courteously. So far, so good.

I don't like the new system that American Home Shield has with having to try to talk to a live person. Everything has to go through either press 1, press 2. I have to go through too many procedures. I just wish it would have if you wanna speak to a representative, push 8 or whatever, instead of going, push this, push this, and get through 17,000 pushes before you finally get the right one. And finally, someone either hangs up on you or you get disconnected or you have to start the procedure all over again. It's very frustrating. Especially when you get to be 89 years old, you lose patience with stuff like that. And I keep getting the wrong people or go to the website. I don't like doing stuff online for several reasons.

But overall, I haven't been dissatisfied. If American Home Shield could make access to a live person faster and easier, that would put them in the very high plus column. I hope that American Home Shield takes note of this complaint and makes an effort to make some adjustments in that area. We'll keep our fingers crossed for 2021.

The tech that AHS sent out didn't look at that but he did a good job with the light switch. Plus, he explained things pretty well, so I was satisfied with him. But at the time, we were trying to get multiple electrical issues resolved and if you try and submit the claim online, there was not any way to indicate that you have multiple issues. So, I ended up calling in. Also, the number that was on my contract was not recognized. But other than that, everything was fine.

When we first moved in, we had a plumbing issue and it cost $75 for Mr. Rooter to come out but the policy didn't cover the main issue. So I ended up paying $700 for that. But when Mr. Rooter came out for the clog, it was $75 and they were able to get it unclogged. Mr. Rooter was great and I've called them for additional work.

I saw American Home Shield on television and I just decided I would try it. At one time, I was kinda hesitant. I was having some problems. But it seemed that that cleared up. The contractors were supposed to come at that time but they didn’t. It took them forever to call. My thing with AHS is they should make an emergency option. In the case of my heat and air, it was just a maintenance service and there wasn’t any hurry so I didn’t call back. AHS contacted Air Plus Services to do a service check for my heat. If I hadn’t heard from them in a couple of days, I was to call them. I didn’t hear from them for almost a week then they suddenly called. A tech came in and checked the thermostat and everything. He did all right.

But when I had trouble with my washer leaking one time before, I had to keep calling to get somebody out. That was an emergency because I didn't want to keep turning my water off outside. Right now, things are okay. But in emergencies, AHS has yet to prove themselves to me. Some people might say everything’s an emergency but AHS should know what an emergency is and what is not. They can use the contractors that have the speediest service. This is one that’s available to come then and that’s one who needs to come.

It's simple to submit claims. I do it over the computer and they set up the contractor. They send the job and somebody will call and schedule the appointment. One time, when we did the hot water tank, I felt that the people they sent took advantage of me. They came out with a standard, which I didn't like and then, they charged me $185 to cut lines off one tank and put the same lines on another one. They did something else and they charged me an extra $485. The lines were $200 and it was ridiculous. It wasn't American Home Shield's fault though. Other than that, it was okay. At another time, I put in a claim on a Saturday and they had the appointment for me on Monday. The guy came out to check the unit for me and everything went fine.

We also had the icemaker and the fridge go out. They came out quick on that, but the last time, the last part they needed to get took longer because Samsung had the part on backorder. It wasn't their fault as well. However, the one thing I don't like about American Home Shield is that if you call because you have a question about something, the people that answer the phone can't give you an answer. It’s not technical assistance. It’s just to set up the appointment, and then you have to wait ‘til they come out. If you’re not sure you need what you're talking about, then you're stuck.

I'm just very disappointed this last time.

We had a refrigerator that wasn't cooling down enough and a dishwasher with a soap dispenser lid that wasn't functioning properly. We also had a gas range that was taking too long to heat up. When Montezuma Appliance's tech showed up, he was able to recharge the refrigerant in the fridge. He had to order parts for the dishwasher and the oven which took a week. He called back to say he had the parts and we set up schedule. The part for the dishwasher was defective so we had to reorder that and it took another day or two. When he showed up to replace the parts, things went smoothly. He was personable and took care of our problems to our liking.

AHS reps are usually helpful but getting someone on the phone has proven to be difficult. Last week, I had to call them and I called after waiting for 25 minutes or so on hold. Then, recently, two providers came out for the dishwasher and neither one of them fixed anything and they both had to order parts. It was weird that two people came out for the same issue about two weeks apart. Otherwise, everything else has been fine. The contractors bring parts with them and fix issues on the spot. I've had others that have come out on multiple occasions. Also, submitting claims is easy now that we do it online, although a lot of times the providers are the ones that will tell us they can't make it out for two weeks.

I’m happy I reached out to American Home Shield because I never knew I would need it. The house is now almost 50 years old and things will probably start to go bad. The only thing I don't like to do is wait a lot. Sometimes, it's hard to get people overnight. But I have used AHS two times so, I appreciate it. I had a leak under the toilet into the powder room and the downstairs, and the repair guys changed the elbow pipe. When they came, I told them to put booties on and they did. They were extremely cordial and business people. So, they were professional. The repair guys did their job out here. If I ever need a service again, I would like to get the same people because they were nice.

The dishwasher had gone bad for us on the weekend of the 4th of July, so I called AHS. It was a two-hour wait on the telephone, so I wasn't pleased with that at all. I don't understand the long waits on the telephone. It wouldn't be difficult to hire more people. And there was no direct way of calling anybody over there. You have to get in to the waiting queue. Then, they sent a serviceman out that came out in a few days, which wasn't a problem. He ordered some parts which were on backorder and that took a few weeks to come in. When they finally came in, he came back and installed the parts. Then, it worked a little bit after the he came out and repaired it. Then on Labor Day weekend, it broke again. He came back out and determined that it would have to be replaced.

They gave me a replacement option, which I looked at. The dishwasher they wanted to replace it with was nowhere near the quality of the dishwasher that we were replacing and it was about half the price that we paid for ours. So I called up and complained about that. They decided to upgrade their offer and give us a better dishwasher. Then, the dishwasher was ordered and installed and it is working. All in all, I'm not really happy with AHS. Eventually, they got the situation fixed but time-wise, it was very poor.

I have two more places that I use as rental income and I've had American Home Shield in Alabama for approximately three years. I didn't have any major issues there but in one of the rental units down there, the air conditioning-went bad on us. They went through the whole thing and decided they were going to replace the parts. But the parts were on backorder and in the meantime, the renters in there can't go without air conditioning. It's in the middle of the summer. So I turned around, bought the air conditioning unit myself, and bypassed AHS altogether because they couldn't do anything in a timely fashion.

But for my most recent issue, Ukon Appliance Repair came and they fixed a couple of things at once really well. They were a good one. I've been with American Home Shield for five years. For me, I haven't had any major situation, which I think for people that have that, it's probably the best. I'm paying a lot of money where I haven't had any problems. So, I had questions whether I have used it, needed it, and I've had to call customer service several times for issues. It takes forever, usually, to get through to somebody at American Home Shield, and then I've had to just save someone’s email because it really takes a very long time to get through to someone and then to often get something resolved.

I'm happy with my service from American Home Shield. I use it occasionally but it always really helped out. It costs $75 for a service person to come and look at a claim. That was simple. Maybe I could have got it done for less. But sometimes, the problem is something that could have been $500, $600 to fix. The service people fixed the problem and right there, it covers a whole year of services. That's where having the home warranty is beneficial. It's like any insurance. Sometimes there is something little that may not have been as worth it but if it's something bigger and you're like, "Phew. That worked out." I put in a request to American Home Shield for something in my mom's house and E & A Mechanical was assigned to do the service. My son followed that up. I texted him yesterday to see if everything was taken care of and he said the problem was fixed. My experience was great.

They didn't have to do any repair. The furnace system eventually turned on by itself. But the tech reviewed a couple different areas and kind of cleaned it up a little bit.

I reached out to American Home Shield online. Their online process is really smooth. It's a lot quicker than waiting in line for customer service, and the contractor gets scheduled right away. I like that you can see all the different things that are covered on there. Then you can quickly look at your policy too if you have a question about if a certain repair is covered or not.

The contractor was really respectful. He was friendly, personal and professional. Even though there was nothing to actually fix, when it was still on, he still pulled everything kind of apart and checked the blower and a couple of areas, and blew off some of the terminals. He made sure everything was good. He recommended me to kind of keep an eye on it. It's getting to be an older system. I have to be aware that it might need to be replaced.

It was plugged by some corrosion that had clogged the drain hole. Johnston's Heating and Cooling came out and they did a great job. We're happy with American Home Shield but there's always room for improvement.

We live in a community that's right on the border of being rural and suburban. It seemed like there was a hard time finding somebody that American Home Shield had a contract with that was close in the area. Initially, it was gonna be a long time for the contractor to come out. We were facing freezing temperatures and our heater didn't work. There needs to be an easier way to find closer contractors. We've had people come all the way up here from West Virginia to do stuff. That's a two and a half hours drive.

American Home Shield should know the contractors that are in the area and they should have a variety of people to choose from. There should be at least two or three to choose from in case there is an issue. If we're unhappy with one contractor, I wouldn't know who we would get. In urban bigger cities and stuff, it's probably not an issue. But that's not the case out here where we live. Thankfully, we were happy with the contractor we got.

They contacted us immediately and said that they contacted Texaire and that they'd come out. Texaire Heating & Air Conditioning came out on the date and the time that American Home Shield said they would and they were very professional.

Because of the COVID, they were fully masked, maintained social distancing, and stayed outside for as much as they possibly could. They answered all the questions prior and made sure they explained everything they were doing while they were doing it. They removed the old compressor and replaced it with a new one, and then they made sure everything was working properly. They also made sure that we were aware of what the issue was and they told us they were going to contact American Home Shield and let them know exactly what it was. They gave us a time frame when things usually happen, and it was even quicker than they had relayed to us.

My wife did some research online, and it seems that they have the better service. If that's the case, then I'd hate to see the services on the other competitors.

I'm happy I got the service taken care of, but the length of time it took to get the item fixed was very time consuming. It took a month and a half, which would have been done in less than a week if I had taken care of it on my own. It would be nice to be able to set up my own contractor to come and do the work, facilitate it for myself and then they take care of the bill after doing the approval.

Trying to get through their phone system to talk to somebody live is quite the process as well. My biggest complaint is it's slow. They also use an outside call station and it was hard to deal with. They have somebody that's got a heavy accent. They’re talking in English but they’re talking extremely fast. US Air conditioning of Texas came for the heater that was out. There’s a little bitty part they are gonna bring in which is a safety valve but it's working good. However, the process with American Home Shield is not simple. The line’s always tied up. Sometimes, I'll call and get ahold of them right then but sometimes, it may take six hours. It’s getting ahold of them that's usually the biggest problem. Having to get a company from so far out is also an issue. We had a lot of things that I was pretty upset about. Getting people to do the job is also a problem. They've been short-handed. They had to wait to get everything approved. You got to read all the little signs on what you're covered. What they got is too many bosses but once I got to the top guy, I was able to get it fixed.

I’d advise somebody if they don’t have it to get it. I'm not gonna drop the home warranty ‘cause I've been having it for years and they've taken care of everything. Our conditioner was out this summer and we had some real problems. They ended up replacing every bit of it. But we were a month getting it fixed ‘cause they fixed one then they had to get something else. Something else would go out, they’d fix it, it’d go out, they'd fix it. What they should have done the first time on the air conditioner was replace it. Better communication and getting it done and not having to go back would be good too. They need probably more people working that can answer. I can report it real quick but it's getting them here that's the problem. Up until this year, the service has been a lot faster. If you get ahold of them, they can usually get on it. They usually hire pretty good people to do the job.

I had an issue with my pump leaking. I called American Home Shield on the phone and it was little difficult because there was a long wait. Then I got an email and a text about the assigned contractor. Upland Pool did a great job. The tech was knowledgeable. But I put in a complaint about the electrical people. They were terrible.

I have hanging lights in my kitchen. One of them doesn't work. When the electrician got here, he looked adamant. He climbed up on the little ladder because the lights are hanging, and he started unscrewing from the bottom. I told him he didn't need to do that. He could just lift the top off and the bulb is in the top part. He said there was no bulb. I said I’ve got a bulb, but it doesn’t work. So I gave him the bulb, and then he said it didn’t work. He said it needed a part. But he didn’t know what the part was.

I told him that maybe he should take apart one of the other ones so he could see what part he needed and get it. He said he didn't do that and that was not what they do. I asked him, “What is it that you do?” He told me about wiring or he’ll change the bulb. But that’s not paying $100 for electrical. I'm really, really angry about that one. Then we went through this whole little scenario, and he said I could change them all over to LED, which I don’t really want to. He said it’d be $150 to $200 to change them over. I told him that I want him to fix the one that’s broken. So I’ve gotta call now some other electrician to come out and do it.

I did three things in one day. I did the pool, the lights, and my washer. The guy came out today on the washer. We went through it together. He said it's fine. He couldn't find why it was making the noise that I heard, but I was fine with that. I knew that he put a little time into it and ran it through twice. I’ve got the peace of mind now knowing that he came out, and he checked it out, and it's okay.

The process was moderately difficult. The guy from Merrill Building came in, looked at the issue and assessed what I had. He talked to me about it. He was very professional, and it was a good experience. He did a good job in a timely manner. He left the premise and cleaned up very well, and was very cordial.

American Home Shield are sending these calls over to the Philippines, and there is a language barrier. I don't think they understand the way the things work here in the United States. I think we need a better system because I surely did ask if someone could let me speak to someone in the United States. And it was a very bad experience from the first contractor to the second contractor. One of the contracts that was sent out advised that they could not replace the part for my shower faucet. I know for sure that those parts could have been gotten, but this particular company wanted to charge me for a brand new faucet.

American Home Shield, sent out another company for a second opinion. That company advised that they could get the parts and fix it. I know they could. I even went and got the parts myself. But the company came out, fixed it and that was done. Other than that, American Home Shield in itself was fulfilling the contract terms. I never had a problem with Home Shield before, but I did have a problem this time with the contractor and the language barrier. But I recommend Home Shield. It was recommended to me by another friend of mine. And so far, the experience has been good with fulfilling the promise of fixing whatever needed to be fixed.

I called Home Shield one day and the contractor was out the next. They were there promptly. The tech wore a mask. My husband went down to the basement where the furnace is and he explained what he was doing and how he did it and had it fixed within two hours. We are homebound because of the COVID, so we were a little worried about that. He was very particular. It couldn't have been better. So far, Home Shield been fine. It has been everything we thought it would be.

They replaced the garbage disposal. I had an InSinkErator and I was a little worried about having a different brand in there. But the man who replaced it showed me that it was made by InSinkErator, so I felt comfortable accepting that. Then there was another gentleman that came out to replace the seal on my washer. He had to make two trips in order to get the seal ordered and then to install it. But everything's been fine.

When I first submitted the claim to American Home Shield, the garage wasn't closing all the way. They sent out Twilight Electrical. When they came the first time, the tech said that he had another one that was kinda similar to what ours was doing. So, he reconfigured the codes and then it closed. Later that night, we went and bought groceries. We came in through the garage, opened the garage door open and unloaded our groceries. When I went to close it, it went down halfway, then went back up. Then it went down back halfway, then it went back up. Then the red light was coming on the garage door opener again.

So, the next day, I submitted a claim again that it still wasn't fixed. Then they said they were gonna send out Twilight Electric again. It was a Friday when I did the resubmission. Then they called me and said the earliest they could get out was the following week. When they finally got back out, they looked at it. Then he called American Home Shield and asked for permission to go ahead and replace it. So, he got it replaced, and now it works.

I had another claim and it was for a leak in the bathtub. That would have to be done twice. That was my first claim, and I didn't know that there was like a specific amount of days to where you can do a follow-up if it wasn't working right. And it was after that time frame. I had noticed that the leak was still there and the noise and the knocking, so then I had to submit a whole new claim for it again for it to get refixed. It works now. I like that I got fast response and they were able to resolve my issues and it was in a timely manner.

I bought a home a little over a year ago and the seller had coverage, which is how they do on appliances when you purchase a home. I used American Home Shield before I even moved in and they did some service on the air conditioner. They were Johnny-on-the-spot and took care of that. My sons checked on the furnace as well. After nine months, when I fully moved in, my contract was expiring, I renewed it on the basis that they had taken care of the problems prior. I had a new policy started and when I called them, they came right out. I've been very satisfied and tempted to keep the policy going in the future.

I'd have to look at the contract to see if there was anything else that should be added, but I haven't pursued it that much. I know American Home Shield doesn't work on televisions, but other than that, it seems that they cover most of the items. I don't know the scope of their ability or how wide they wanna expand their services, but they've done well on what I've had them handle. They were efficient and quite versatile. More importantly, they've been timely. They come when they are supposed to or when they say they would be there and this is a very important item to emphasize.

I feel like every time somebody comes out, they're saying they can't fix the thing. We had an issue with the sink and the contractor said that the way the pipes were lined, they couldn't fix it so that was a waste. I also had a pipe that was leaking and so my wall was turning colors. The guy said he couldn't fix that. It needed to be caulked. One time, I submitted a claim and the contractor came out and he was not able to do anything. I needed to order a part. When I did that, then I had to submit a request for the contractor to come out and do the same thing. When I called, I just said that the guy wasn't able to do anything. What I found interesting was the guy that came out the initial time didn't leave any notes for AHS.

They were supposed to be checking with the company to see if the guy could put in some notes. It was frustrating that I submitted the same claim and had to pay twice for a service that was only done once. It's just like the contractors are passing the buck. I'm very hesitant to even call, because they're gonna come out and say they can't fix it. If somebody says that he needs a home warranty, I would just stay quiet because I've just been satisfied after I paid for the claim twice.

We have a rental property that had a problem with the heating element. TruTech Heating and Cooling came right out. The tenant just needed the flue lit. The gas furnace needed to be restarted and the company repaired it. It was a seamless process because the tenant hasn't complained about that. Then there was a contractor who came out for our dishwasher. They were supposed to come back on November 3rd and we haven't heard back from them.

Previously, communication with AHS wasn't that great, just being able to talk to someone who could help you without being passed on. However, it seems like since the COVID-19 pandemic, the two calls that I've had with them have been very responsive. Hopefully, with my two new experiences, things are better. I've always recommended them because the value is better. I look at it as a savings account. I pay them, and when something breaks, I don't have to come out of my pocket.

The only thing is that because I have tenants, they automatically bill me the 75. I wish that there was a way that instead of billing me, I could have my tenants set up an account and then they could bill the tenant the 75. Because often, I have to eat that. For landlords, it would be good if there was a tenant portal, so if it's a tenant who is living in the home, instead of the owner having to incur that $75 at every single call, it could be transferred to the tenant and the tenant would have to do it.

I had a problem with the AC and American Home Shield sent a company over. The company said that I had to do some major fixes, like the coil. It was a $2,000 repair which American Home Shield said that they would pay about 1,100, and it would be $900 out of my pocket. I wanted to get a second opinion, so I called another company and it was $200 to charge the Freon. That was the only thing and it's been about two months with no additional issues.

This happened the second time on a different house. The contractor would come and say that I need to replace the coil and it would be $2,000. In both cases, it was a very simple repair. The second time it happened, the issue was the thermostat. It ended up being a $200 repair, instead of $2,000. So it seemed like the people American Home Shield were sending were cheating the insurance company and the user, which is me. They were trying to get more money for something that didn't require any major repair.

I had another issue with the fridge, where the ice maker wasn't working. So they sent somebody over and all they said was the couldn't fix it. There was no follow-up. You end up spending $75 for the service call and the monthly fee, but you don't get anything in return. So that's why I canceled all my warranties with them and I switched to First American.

We have the heating and air serviced every year and everything checks. A dry run is done and it is working great. It's nice and warm. One cold night, we turn it on, and it doesn't work. It's hard to find somebody to work on the oil furnace now. Everybody has heat pumps here in North Carolina. I called American Home Shield to make a claim and getting a rep was easy. With the COVID, everybody has a longer hold time. But once you get them on the line, they're very friendly and helpful. I'm happy with it. Mandolin HVAC & Construction was assigned to my claim. AHS usually calls or emails the contractor and sometimes they call if it's a pressing situation then a contractor contacts us. They always have 24 to 48 hours to get in touch with the customer unless it's a real emergency.

I was happy with Mandolin. They are good. The tech that came said it was the sensor that went out. When he turned the furnace on, it worked. But after he was gone, we had two warm days then one cold night. We wanted to turn it on and it didn't work again. It's two weeks now and a tech is coming again today to replace the sensor. It's been a cold house for a week now. The only problem was Mandolin was waiting to have an email that the trip fee was covered because AHS had not paid for it yet. I told the rep that if they didn't wanna pay the trip fee, I'd give my credit card. I don't wanna wait for another weekend in a cold house in really cold days. We have the temperature in the 20s at night. Now, we have it at much less. We went and got some electric heaters but we worry about the electricity bill.

Overall, I'm satisfied with American Home Shield although there were a couple of times in between when I didn't go anywhere. Everybody blames it on COVID now. AHS' line is sometimes very busy and you wait on hold for 20 minutes, which I don't mind. But then the line goes down and you have to try all over again. The reps are very friendly and they speak good English. Sometimes you call somebody and they don't know what to say because I probably sound like a German and they never heard it. And then we were stuck so I was a little disgruntled because the house gets colder and colder as the days go. But everything went fine. We've been with AHS for 16 years now because we are retired and you have only so much to work with. Usually, everything goes smoothly.

When I had a problem, I had to go back to American Home Shield because the company that had been recommended wasn’t able to get the problem fixed. The claims process is straightforward and I don't have an issue about it, but I have an issue about the performance.

The contracted company did not provide the correct diagnosis about the source of the problem for my furnace in my house and that misdiagnosis has resulted in continued loss of heat from my furnace not functioning correctly the first time as well as the second time. I had to call back 10 days afterwards and I’d be getting a second opinion. I’m not doing a buyout though. I’m still in a state of the company being able to come by and see exactly what needs to be done to get the problem fixed.

It took me a week to get my hot water. They sent this guy out and he wouldn't respond to them. He wouldn't even talk to me when he was here. He was gonna charge $985. I refused and told him to send me a second opinion. I had the thing fixed five years ago with a home warranty and they charged me $300. That man's a crook. If you go on their website, everybody that American Shield sent them to had really bad comments about them not showing up, not fixing stuff, overcharging, and not coming out to fix what they didn't do. He was horrible. I had to tell him to put his face mask on. The second people they sent out charged me $350 which should've been the price. They did the same thing he said he was gonna do. They came in the next day after they came out the day before. They just asked me to have my water softener moved out so they could get in and make a clear way.

I had to get a washer replaced and during the process of getting the reimbursement check, I updated my address with them but they still sent it to the wrong address. They weren't taking thorough notes and putting it in. It took like four months for me to get my reimbursement. But that was my only irritation with AHS. The refrigerator started to click and I kind of knew that wasn't right because it hadn't done that before. It also just stopped cooling but the icemaker was still working. Then after a while, the temperature didn't work at all on either the freezer side or the refrigerator side. I set up a claim through the automated system of AHS and I told them that I needed a repair for the refrigerator. But I had inadvertently put down the wrong make of my refrigerator. I put down Whirlpool and I contacted them back and said it was actually a Frigidaire. They were awesome with switching that out. With COVID, things kind of got delayed and that was not any of their fault, but I had to call them back and say that I needed someone a little bit sooner than two weeks because I needed a refrigerator.

The tech who came out were great and they fixed the refrigerator right away. I called them back after that because I felt that the refrigerator wasn't cooling enough. The guy was really great when I called him back and said they guarantee the work for 60 days. But they came right out and unscrewed the back of the refrigerator. They knew exactly what it was and they fixed it. The freezer’s working great since then. The refrigerator is working great but I feel like it’s not as cool as before. But he told me to just keep a watch on it and let them know. They were wonderful.

All in all, I love American Home Shield and I’m glad I jumped on board with them. Before all of that, I was talking with people about getting appliances insured and they immediately said American Home Shield. They said that AHS always came out, got contractors whenever, and always made sure the problem got fixed. I've heard nothing but good things and that made me kind of sign on with them.

Once I got signed in to the website, clicked a few buttons to say what system was wrong or what system needed service, and a little bit of detail, they handled the rest. The technician who came out was the same guy both days. He was very pleasant, normal, talkative and conversationalist, which was nice. He was clean. He took his shoes off before I told him he could leave them on. So, he was very considerate and courteous. The process of submitting a claim with AHS was really fast and efficient. I was able to tell them what my issues were. They provided a list of locksmiths that I can contact or that will contact me and then I've made my selection. Then the locksmith called me that same day to schedule an appointment within the week that best suited my schedule.

The locksmith was very professional. She called me the day before to remind me of my appointment. Then she called me 20 minutes out from coming to my home. She ensured that she wore a mask, which was very important. Then any questions that I had in regards to the locks, she was able to answer what locks she would be able to change and which ones she couldn't. I have a lock that the old owner installed that is a code lock. She told me she couldn't rekey that because I didn't have a key. So, it was good in regards to that and then what American Home Shield covered and what they didn't. This is my first time with American Home Shield for this home. In my previous home, I had American Home Shield and they came twice for things that I needed at that home.

The only complaint I have would be they didn't leave me with any paperwork, so I don't know exactly what they did. I had to ask them, “So what happened, what transpired?” It's one little thing which is not that big of a deal though.

Everything is easy with American Home Shield. When we have an issue, I jump on my phone quick and usually, it's the next day that we get somebody out here to get it fixed. The coverage is good as well. If you have a pool and a pool pump, go for the extra. For some reason, I didn't and I don't remember it even being an option until I lost my pool pump. I had to replace it out of pocket because it wasn't covered by my policy. Afterwards, I saw that it was an option and I got that on my policy. For homeowners with pools, have that option more readily explained.

He was very professional.

One of the fixtures wound up being functional, but they were very old and on their way out. They worked sporadically. I was more concerned with it being a wiring issue though. Since we just bought the home, I didn't know if it was bad wiring inside the wall that was causing it or it was the fixtures themselves. The service put me at ease that there’s not an obvious wiring issue that I have to be concerned about. I just need to go and buy new updated fixtures for the outside.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. They provide good value because you're paying monthly for a warranty product. It's like being in an apartment. You just call the service office to fix something, but you're in a house. You have the warranty company that you can call, and they come out and fix things. It’s especially nice for first-time homeowners, which I am, so it helps with that transition a lot. I'd like it if they would have covered the roof. But I have the high-ticket items so they probably wouldn't wanna cover that. I understand just from an insurance point-of-view because I don't know if I even need it. But who knows? At this point, I might as well just save up for a whole new washer. The contractor ordered the part, and if anything, I'd just follow up, and maybe AHS would just find a different contractor. But then with my recent claim, the individual from Coulter Repair who came out was amazing.

Overall, American Home Shield is a great company. They're doing what they're told, that is, beyond their measure because that's the company. It's a home warranty. Our air conditioning had went out, so we had that repaired through American Home Shield. I went online, I signed in and mentioned that my AC was no longer blowing any cold air. In a relatively short amount of time, I was contacted to set up an appointment. A gentleman came out. The furnace is located in the garage. So, he had to go in the garage first so he could check the AC and then find out. He said, "Nope. Your AC's cooling actually quite well." Then he checked the furnace. He says, "Okay. There's where your issue is. The motor, it's gone." The issue was with the furnace and the motor that blows the air out right throughout the air ducts that had died out. That was what needed to be replaced.

I was skeptical at first about calling Home Shield again. I feel that, previously, there were a lot of rules that were designed to really minimize the amount of cost of coverage that they actually do. There was one time when there was a pipe that was damaged. In order to get to it, you had to remove the toilet to be able to access it and to be able to fix it and do what needs to be done. I was told that while they will get the pipe fixed, they weren't gonna cover the cost of the toilet. It's things like that that would really irritate most consumers.

Then in the shower, there was a valve that controls the hot and cold water that needed to be replaced. Over time, it just rusted. The plumber was really trying to see if he could just wrench it off. He had to be very careful because if he did any further damage to the pipe, that would be on him. So, he said, “Look, the only way I can really do this, ‘cause it’s so corroded, is I have to cut into the wall, remove the pipe entirely. And then I can patch it up.” Home Shield said they classify that as modifying the piping, and that would not be covered. So, all they did was they covered the cost of the valve and whatever time associated with it, but the piping and all the cutting into the walls were not covered.

This recent experience was probably one of the best experiences we've had. My wife and I were satisfied. For a little while, we're kind of wondering, “Should we keep this?” Now, we're probably gonna continue to retain Home Shield. The claim was smooth. The contractor came in, the problem was assessed, they got the replacement parts, they installed it, and it worked. We paid 100 bucks for the person to show up. Everything else is covered by the insurance. It was nice to just have it work as intended.

It was very quick. They looked at the washer, took the parts information, and tried to diagnose to see if there was anything they could determine on the onboard computer. They had a list of parts and they gave me a timeframe. They did great. They coordinated everything very well too. They reached out to me and kept me in the loop during the entire process. They let me know when the parts were ordered. When they received the parts and had gone over everything, they tried to make sure that I was gonna be available at home.

They came back and put brand new parts on the washer. They ran the machine to make sure everything was good and I was there the entire time to wash and do everything. They did everything to make sure that before they left, everything was done correctly. The washing machine has been working excellently like it's brand new. I recently purchased a brand new home and American Home Shield happened to come along with the coverage. I really didn't think I was gonna need to use it. He explained to me what it was. I told him I figured it could have been the thermostat. The battery was gone. It was what it was, and he told me. I also got this thing with them where they come up twice a year and check everything with that. I need that. When they say they're going to come at a certain time, they come and they do a good job for me. I like the service that Home Shield renders me. I'm satisfied with my being with them for a long time.

I usually don't use American Home Shield, but in a matter of a couple of weeks, I had to use it twice. The contractors were very helpful, efficient and pleasant and they explained things to me, 'cause I have to know everything. I was very pleased. When I called the first time for the plumber, that was okay. When I called on November 2nd for my microwave, the technician came out and then they had to order the parts.

The parts came within a week, but they won't be able to get here till after Thanksgiving. I was bummed out a bit, but I understand that there's a lot of people. If it wasn't for the fact that I brought my other microwave up from another state, I would have been very upset. You'd be surprised how much you rely on a microwave. All in all, American Home Shield is great. I even bragged about it (even with the waiting).

When I had to have a repair on my stove, the first company was amazing but the second one was not so good. The guy was horrible. He was a very unprofessional person. I do not blame American Home for that but I let them know and they were very nice to work with. They were very accommodating. So far, we like them a lot.

The technician did a good job on my microwave claim. He was courteous. He came prepared and did what he was supposed to. He didn't come one day and then tell me that he had to come back. He took care of it all in one day. He seemed very knowledgeable about his job and very trustworthy. He respected our home and made sure he had on a mask. We wore masks too to protect ourselves and protect him.

American Home Shield is a pretty good service, for the most part. There have been times where I found it quite challenging to use American Home Shield because I was charged twice for when my dishwasher had to be fixed. They charged me for the guy when he came to fix it but it wasn't fixed. They had to replace it. I called AHS again and then they charged me for that time too.

I was completely misled by a representative. Lied to is a better way of putting it. Now I am out 400 dollars because the company is dishonest. I had a plumbing issue. They sent in plumbers to fix the pipe. The plumbers had to tear out some wall. They also knocked out some of the studs in the wall. I called them and they said they would find someone to come fix it. Never heard anything back.

I called back 2 weeks later, they said they can't find anyone so I can get someone to fix it and they will reimburse me. The person on the end could hardly speak English so I made sure to clarify many times! I said, "You will reimburse me for the damage the plumbers have done, fully?" I asked different ways and they assured me over and over. I had a bad feeling after reading complaints about American Home Shield.

So I finally find a drywall guy to come out to work on the wall. He points out that he can not install a wall to loose and falling off studs. So he buys new studs and fixes it. He puts one layer of mud on it. He was supposed to come back out after but he got sick. He caught CoVid. He is better now and has finished the sanding and drywall. So I call in to get my refund and they proceed to tell me they will pay 100.... It was 500 to fix the damage the plumbers caused getting to the pipe. If this was their policy, they really should have told me when is asked. I would like my money refunded. I was misled in huge way! I was about to renew my contract. Not a chance in heck I will be doing that if this is not made right.

I bought a house in Florida in 2015 and they had a warranty with it when I bought it. So, I continued the warranty and I added it to my house in Virginia also. The icemaker was acting up and Priority Mechanical came out and fixed it. It saved me money when I used the service from American Home Shield. In the past, when I have a problem in Florida, I would call on the telephone and I would be on hold for usually over an hour or at least 45 minutes to make a service request. And when I go to the website, my Virginia House comes up, which is fairly easy to do. But I don't know how to get the Florida house to come up. It doesn't ask you if you have more than one house because maybe that's not common, but it is in today's day and age. AHS need to make the homepage more user-friendly, so you could put in the address of the home. It would be simple to do. You name an address and if you got a contract there, it should come up.

A whole bunch of water fell through from the attic down to our second floor and it went all over the floor. Our Hartford insurance had to come out and they had to bring big fans and take care of that. Apparently, there was a whole bunch of equipment that was broken, and Marina came out and repaired the air conditioner. It was great. When submitting claims, first I call American Home Shield and tell them something’s broken. They send somebody out, and then they fix it. We only had bad luck once. They have a lousy company called AG Appliance on their list and they should be on it. Those jerks came out and put us through everything.

People should look at the reviews, and then when they have a lousy company, like we did that one time, they should tell AHS to send somebody else out because the company is bad. AG messed us up and we had to call American Home Shield and say, “You need to send a different company out because we have a broken washing machine.” They sent out another company, everything was cleared up, and it was perfect. In the end, our washing machine was replaced. I highly recommend American Home Shield. They did a good job by us, and except for that one experience with that horrible company, everything else has been wonderful. They've been great with us.

I'm not pleased with American Home Shield and I'm going to be canceling the subscription that I just renewed. Before I purchased my home, the contractor that remodeled it gave me a year with American Home Shield. Then I renewed it and I paid 37.83 a month for 12 months. It was to expire at the end of October. So on the 19th, I decided to renew it for the third year. I authorized the girl and for 37.83 a month. She didn't get the confirmation but it came in the email. But on Thursday the 22nd, American Home Shield withdrew from my bank and I noticed it Friday morning on the 23rd. They took out $454 without my permission and their receipt showed $37. So I kept calling through the weekend for two reasons. The last person I spoke with was Nash and was nasty. On Tuesday, I was told by Nash that she would have a supervisor call me within an hour or two hours at the most.

I have not heard anything from American Home Shield except for Wednesday where I've gotten a voicemail from the supervisor. Nash accused me of blaming her and turning her over to the Better Business Bureau. I said that I wanted to speak to a supervisor so I could get rectified the money. So I said that when this was all over, I would be writing a letter to whoever the CEO of American Home Shield and I would CC it to Better Business Bureau. So she was so afraid that I was gonna turn her name in and I would not. But I am disappointed with that. That was on the 23rd, on Saturday. It was before we started daylight savings time.

I was going into the hallway to the master bedroom and just slightly to the left was the open door to the main bathroom and something glistened. I have skylights in both bathrooms. So the light reflected down on the water on the floor. It was clear clean water was coming from the base of the toilet and it flooded. I was trying to keep it off the wood floor in the hall and the bathroom has marble tiling in both bathrooms. The master bath is embedded on the other side of the wall.

I had called American Home Shield on Saturday night and I couldn't get through, so I just hung up and didn't leave a message. So Sunday morning at 8:00 on the 1st, AHS gave me a number. I have a whole long list of numbers and times. So Sunday, I made nine calls to the vendor and they were closed on Sunday. I made five calls with American Home Shield and I didn't get anyone here. The first person who came out was Tuesday morning. And I went to three or four different vendors before and they wouldn't escalate.

I said that it was an emergency 'cause I'm a senior citizen and I have respiratory health issues. So by Monday, the toilets were overflowing and black stuff was in the shower and in the bathtub and then brown stuff. They took my $75 and the plumber that came out didn't do anything 'cause we couldn't find the main flow either for him to check that. So they basically did nothing for me.

I will not recommend American Home Shield and I am dropping the service. I paid for all the money they owe me for over a year. I should only have to pay one month 'cause I was gonna be done with it before that 22nd with this first month, and the $75, because I got ripped off. My max on my homeowner's insurance happened to be 21,600 and the repair is gonna cost more than that. If American Home Shield had someone out there right away, it'd be just very minor.

I had American Home Shield up in San Jose from 2007 to three years and had good service but then I didn't renew it. Down here, it's shoddy. And of the hours I was on the phone with them, I was on hold more than I spoke to someone. Also, most of their reps are in the Philippines. I got people in Georgia twice and they understood and they were supposed to be documenting my file. But the others, it was almost like a recorded message but in different voices. Everyone said that same thing and go on. They have about several different statements and I can almost repeat them all word-for-word once they started. That's not acceptable. My claim was an emergency. I told the reps to escalate it but I found out that they never escalated it until Tuesday morning.

The contractor that American Home Shield had come out and install my furnace put it back together incorrectly, which caused the AC coils that were sitting on top of the furnace to create a lot of condensation and it leaked into my furnace. When they put in the furnace, they had also said they were going to replace the thermostat and they never did that but I let it go. I called them a couple of times and they sent someone over saying that everything was okay.

Also, American Home Shield said that after six months, the furnace was no longer under warranty. I only used it for a month and a half and then the year after, when I turned my heater on again, it was no longer under warranty with them, which is not appropriate. At this point, Standlee came out and fixed the furnace and the coils for the air conditioner. They said the coils were no good and they had to replace those. They also fixed how the original contractor set it on the furnace, which caused the leak. They did an awesome job. But I paid $1,200 dollars and I had to pay the $100 deductible on top of it. I’m not real happy with American Home Shield right now and I am debating whether I'm gonna keep it or not.

I really didn't like being charged $125. We did have somebody come out for the electrical. When we turned on the switch in the bedroom, it was crackling. We didn't wanna bother with it. So, I waited a while until I saved the money so I could call it in. When the tech came out, he said it was just changing the lightbulb. I don't think I should’ve been charged $125 for him to change a lightbulb. I thought it was something serious because it was crackling and snapping in the ceiling every time we turned on the light switch. I don't think a lightbulb would do that. It seems to me I should at least get half of that money back.

Right now, I have my stove that has to be looked at, and that's electrical. One evening, I turned my stove on and I went to feed my baby, and the fire alarm in my home started going off. When I got downstairs to check the stove, it was billowing smoke, and the element was bright orange. I had it on low. The fire people came out. We got that done. A week later, I said, “Well, let me see. Let me try again.” I started on low, it started to get bright orange and started smoking. So, that's something that has to be fixed. But I don't wanna have to call them to come and fix that. I'm just scared to call them about the stove. I'm saving up my money to go ahead and buy a brand new stove. My neighbors tell me that Nationwide is pretty good. I really am thinking about looking elsewhere because I think there should be some more customer service.

But if you don't hear from them, just go ahead and call.” They always keep you alert.

Luckily, it wasn't our main refrigerator in the house. It was our garage one that we put excess stuff in. It helped a lot because we always have a lot of extra stuff, just in case. We could plug it into another outlet, but for some reason, there hasn’t been another outlet. But when it first happened, everything melted. Luckily, I have a big industrial-size refrigerator in the house. So, I had to stuff everything in there. And then, we have another little deep freezer in the garage, too. I had to stuff as much stuff as I could in there. The guy came out and he diagnosed it as the motherboard, which controls everything. He had to order the part. And then, he came back three days later, put it in and it has been working good since. Good service.

The tech did some work to it and it worked for a few days, but then it went out again. I don't know what he did the first time, but I know that he replaced the fuse. But he did some other stuff to it too. Then, they came back out and fixed it. They changed that fuse three additional times. I told AHS I was afraid the microwave was going to set my house on fire. They told me I have to allow them to at least rectify the problem two or three times, which I did. And when I said enough, they were very good about it. They just told me to pick out what I wanted and the selection process was very easy. Everything was done virtually. They emailed me and I could go through the list, see the pictures, and pick out what I wanted.

At first, I told them I had a GE microwave but then, I told them to just replace the microwave. I wanted one because it was crucial. Since the vent system was built into the microwave, every time we tried to boil water, we'd have steam and it was awful. But when I picked out the microwave, I chose the one that would match my kitchen and AHS told me that that one is a Whirlpool. I said that was even better, so they replaced it with a Whirlpool, which matches my refrigerator perfectly. It tremendously helped our day-to-day functions and I'm really satisfied with them.

My heating unit wasn't blowing. So I called American Home Shield, read off my contract number, and let them know that I was in need of a service. All of this was prerecorded that I went through and sometimes, it wouldn't listen to what I was saying. It’d go and put down what it wants or kick me out and send me to somebody, which was good. Then I'd get a chance to talk to a human. But for this claim, I called, registered, and paid my money. Then, they made contact with the people here to come and do the work. Two days later, the people sent me an email that said they would be here on a certain day at a certain time. Then they started going into COVID-19 and began asking if anybody was sick. I told them that that wasn't a problem and I answered all of their questions.

When their representative got here, I made sure I stayed six to eight feet away from the young lad. I took him down to the heating unit and I showed him my switches where you can go click the switch to cut it off or if it all went power, you can go back to it and reset. Then I moved out of his way and he was here for about 30 minutes. He came back and said he got me going and I thanked him for his time. He wrote up the bill, I got a copy of it, and he departed.

Since the repair, the heater has been going. But my request apparently wasn't for him to come up and look at the control in the hallway, which is hot. We can't get heat until it reaches 80 in the hallway, but it's 29 outside. So eventually, I’m going to have to get somebody to come in and adjust my thermostat to where I like it at approximately 68 to 72 degrees in the house, instead of me having to put it up on 80. But I'm going to have to see how this goes. I'm not going to call AHS because when I first started this back in 2004, I used to get services quicker. But here in 2020, I'd call in one day, they'd take up the recording to get the information, and two days later, I'd get some confirmation. Then they'd call or get an email from a contractor that says they'd be coming out on such and such a date. After, they'd come and make a preliminary investigation.

But when I submit the claim, they'd ask me what was wrong and I'm not a technician on what's wrong and what's not right. Then, I found out that they didn't do panel upgrades. I was here for two months without air. But I have an attic fan that pulls air through the house and I managed the situation. Still, if I had known that AHS didn't do upgrades, I wouldn't have waited eight weeks after I first called them to do something. I’d have called and got the electricians over here like I did to get it fixed. They upgraded my whole panel to 200 from what it was and they took the whole electrical wiring loose on the house, put new meter, then went down in the basement, took out the old panel, put in a new panel, rewired and hooked up all of that stuff. They did it all in 12 hours and I thanked the electrical people for working so intensely.

Other than that, I've recommended AHS to family members in other cities. But they changed since ’04 when I first was introduced to them. They got too many people who are speaking languages over there that I can't understand. I was in Vietnam, Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. But I couldn't catch it the language that they spoke. So it didn't fluster me because I couldn't understand the lady I talked to about my air conditioning and she was from China or somewhere.

Despite that, if you're buying a house, get American Home Shield to cover yourself because they have replaced microwaves, my oven, and stuff that for some reason went out. We got the people over who did the initial inspection, found out that it would be uneconomical to repair, tried to order but couldn’t, so they asked if I'd like a replacement. I've also had several people who've offered me to come away but I'm going to stick and stay. AHS is doing great as far as I'm concerned.

I’ve had perfect interactions every time I’ve had to use American Home Shield. Recently, the furnace was running but it wasn’t heating the house above 63. It turns out, it was a pressure switch. The technicians who came were fantastic. They came out three times but that is in no way a poor reflection on them. The first time they came out, the guy discovered the problem, temporarily fixed the bad switch and had to order the part. I didn't realize he had to order the part. The next day when it was not heating again, I called. They immediately sent somebody over and got it running again. The next day, they came out for the third time to replace the switch. They didn’t put me off a day. The experience was easy, simple, and expedient.

American Home Shield is great. We had a claim for the sink in the kitchen. All of a sudden, it started dripping. Even when you turn the faucet off, it would not actually turn off the water. We just had a dishwasher installed so I was thinking that it might be something with the dishwasher but it wasn't that. It was the faucet. The guy explained to me that the corrosion eventually rotted out the rubbers and the mechanism that kept the faucet open and shut. So they replaced it with a new faucet. Everything works perfectly now. Overall, my experience with American Home Shield has been easy. Before I call them, I check and see if the issue is covered under my contract. If it is, then I place an order to fix or repair the issue.

I stayed here the entire day, and then they came an hour later. I called back and rescheduled with somebody else. Economy Appliance came out and was really prompt. They took care of it right away. Comfort Temp came out and they did a great job. They put a new furnace in my home. The day after they put the furnace in, I went back to the property and there was an issue again. When I smelled the gas leak, I immediately called Comfort Temp. They came out to see what was going on. They read that there were some problems. The tech said there was so much gas that he wouldn't be able to find out where the leak was. In fact, he suggested that I call Peoples Gas to find out the leak. He was the first person that shut all the gas off to the house. He said I cannot leave the gas on with all of this gas in there. It was a safety issue and I understood that.

I called Peoples Gas who came out that Monday and they found that there were several leaks. But it was a plumbing issue. One is on the furnace where there's an old regulator. Apparently, that's a plumbing pipe. And there were five shutoff valves that needed to be replaced. I then called AHS and I reported the issue. They assigned it to Patel’s Plumbing & Sewer. But Patel's decided that they couldn't come because the technician became ill. AHS assigned the claim to Aaron Heating & Air Conditioning. The lady named Cathy from there called me and told me to get the people who put the heater in initially to fix the problem and that they were not coming out. They cancelled the service.

I called AHS back and told them the issue. I asked who was coming out to fix the problem and the gentleman that I spoke with told me that he was going to expedite it. It was kinda hard to understand because customer service must be outsourced to another country. I asked to speak with his supervisor. He said that his supervisor would tell me the same thing. I told him I was not complaining about him. I needed to speak with a supervisor because this is Chicago. When the main gas is shut off, I have no heat, no water, and no cooking there. The house is uninhabitable when I don't have those things. He said that he would have his supervisor call me the next day within 24 hours. But I never got a call. Also, the gentleman tried calling Aaron but they hung up on him.

I called again last night and spoke with Rand. He said that he looked in the system and it did not show that my claim was expedited. He was then going to then expedite it. It was 9:00 o’clock at night and I was told someone would call me within four hours. I didn't know how they were going to call me at 1:30 in the morning when they weren't available at 9:00 o’clock. I told Rand that I was having problems with my email so I got a text this morning at 8:33. It said that Water Control Plumbing was supposed to come out. I was to call the contractor to set up an appointment. I called them and left a message because they said they were away from the desk and someone would call me back in five minutes.

Rand also gave me another company, Super Rooter. I also called that company. Super Rooter called me and the rep said that the claim was not in their portal. I am assuming that it was assigned to Water Control Plumbing. I'm waiting for them to call me back to see what's going on. I paid $100 the first time that I was supposed to pay. Rand was so focused on, “I need $100.” But I told him that I was not giving another $100 and for them to figure out that. They were worrying about $100 when I haven’t even gotten stuff done. They kept focusing on Patel’s and Aaron’s and I wanted them to call another contractor. It makes no sense to keep calling the same people. I was upset and I was yelling. It's crazy for me to not have gas. I can’t get the gas turned on until this is fixed. I’ve been couch surfing since Friday.

I had a constant drip coming from our guest bathroom. It's a half bath on the first floor. I called and put in a request to have AHS get a plumber to come and fix that for us. The plumbers came two weeks ago. The tap and valve handles are all separate. They took them all apart including the two valve handles. They said they found what they thought to be the problem. They tried to show me but I didn't see any difference. They said they were gonna go up to the local Home Depot and see if they could get the pieces for the replacement. They did that then came back. Home Depot didn't have the parts so the plumbers were gonna have to go. They said they contacted their supervisor back at the company and sent him pictures of the parts. He was gonna have to order them.

I asked the plumbers if what they took apart could be put back together and if I should use it or not. They said they could put the parts back together but I wouldn't be able to use the sink. I'm guessing it was because of the seals. The plumbers left it apart. Now, I have those pieces laying on my counter back there. This includes the knobs and the pieces that came out of the inside of the knobs.

After a week, I still didn't hear anything so I called the plumbing company. All I got were recordings. You can't talk to a person. It says if you want to punch through a number, you can leave a message. But the voicemail even says you'd get a quicker response if you send an email. I sent an email but still, I never got a response. I called again on Friday. This would have been a week and two days after the problem. Finally, I left another message and somebody called back. That person said, "I will take and pass this on to our supply guy and have somebody contact you."

Someone from the plumbing company then told me, "I've been looking for your parts for a week. My technician who was out there told me it was a Kohler valve." But it was not a Kohler. Looking at the part, there are no stamps or anything on it. The valves have been in there since we bought the house three years ago. They've probably been in there maybe about 10 years. They're nice quality valves and not super old. The guy told me he sent it to his people that know and deal with Kohler. Kohler said they couldn't help so he was going to have to check in other places.

I have health conditions and I have visiting therapists to come. They like to wash their hands. But our bathroom is now not usable for cleaning up. I really need to get this fixed. But the guy told me it was gonna be at least another week or maybe two. I said, “That's a little too cavalier. And you're telling me one or two weeks just to find the part?” I asked at what point they were gonna throw in the towel here and get in touch with AHS to do something more than that. He said he won't do that for at least three weeks. That said, I was gonna be without my sink for a month.

We left it at that. It was Friday afternoon. He said he had my number on his desk and he had the email as well with the pictures the plumbers sent right there. He was going to keep looking next week. I've been trying to call this week and I got nothing. I called AHS to tell them the contractor was not answering his phone and not answering requests. It's been two weeks. AHS patched me through to a customer service rep who could barely speak English. It was more than a horrible language. I had to keep asking her to repeat things. She couldn't explain to me what my options were.

After I had to repeat three or four times, she finally indicated to me that I could get a refund and I could get funds to do the work myself. I'm handicapped enough that I can't do these sorts of things so I pay $65 a month to AHS to take care of these things for me. The rep said that was all she could do for me. I either have to wait for the plumber to come and finish the job or AHS could fund me some money.

I couldn't understand whether the rep was just talking about refunding my $75 deductible or whether she was talking about refunding that and providing me money to go buy the valve parts myself. I told her that the plumber who's a certified one couldn't find the valve parts. How was I gonna find them? I told her I wanted to speak to her supervisor but she said we couldn't do that as she was working from home because of COVID. She didn't have a supervisor. That was not gonna cut it. I told her that she needed to tell me who I could talk to at AHS because we were not able to communicate.

After that went on for a little bit, she eventually offered me an alternative, She would pass an email to some customer service person and that person would contact me within 24 hours. Someone would come to my house and look at the problem. From what I understood, someone will come from the local office to help me. I didn't even know AHS has a local office. I've heard nothing and I tried to get in touch with AHS. I was on hold for a long time. This was in the middle of a workday. I'm not gonna blame them for that. I kind of understand that. I tried to do one of those pop-up window chat rooms but that didn't work either. I got disconnected from that.

Somebody sent me an email to ask for my opinion of AHS. The sad thing is that just a week or more ago, I submitted a glowing, “I've never had problems with AHS.” AHS had two people come recently for the furnace. One was to do the fall maintenance and one was to replace my thermostat. I've had AHS in the last three homes I've owned for over 16 years. I probably had AHS 10 of those 16 years. I'm not against them but somehow, they're dropping the ball with this plumbing claim big time. My contract with them ends in January and somehow, that's known by their competitors. Their competitors have been sending me emails right and left trying to get my business.

This has been frustrating for me and for my wife as well. She had to deal with the issue for the last five days. As a matter of fact, she's on the computer right now looking up new vanities. I was actually gonna try to go back to AHS and cancel completely if they would give me my $75 back. We're seriously looking at just having a contractor come in, tear out the whole vanity and valves, and replace the whole thing. I looked online and apparently, this company that AHS contracted is not Better Business Bureau rated. They are very poorly rated by Google too. When we looked up their guy's reputation, he's been this way with more than one person. It’s sad that AHS has contracted with somebody with that bad of a rating.

So far, AHS' service has been great. We only had one situation where we put in a request and we didn't get charged. We never got a call from the contractor. Other than that, AHS has been very quick and responsive. It was great. The problems that we had were minor. When we moved into our house, one of the sinks was already draining slowly. We tried to fix it ourselves. But when the other one started backing up, I used the home warranty service and had someone come out to check the problem to make sure everything was good to go. We are first-time homeowners so it was better to have a pro come out and make sure nothing got messed up.

I've submitted two incidents with AHS through their website and both got resolved to my satisfaction. The turnaround time wasn't that great, but they weren't critical problems that had to be solved within 24 hours. One of the claims was for my AC unit that stopped working. It cracked and leaked, and they had to replace it. The other issue was more of a plumbing thing. A water fixture kind of broke and was leaking. I needed to have them come in and fix it. Both the techs who came out for my claims were very professional, courteous, and nice people. The plumber who was here was wearing his mask the whole time that he was in the house. He also took care not to touch anything else besides what he was doing and we took precautions too.

All in all, AHS is quite pricey. It's about $600 a year without even making a claim, then it's $100-something per claim. Before you even get your first claim in to do some work, you're $600 close to $700 out of pocket. So, I wouldn't recommend it for everybody because that is a pretty high price tag. I also would not recommend it for newer homes. But for people that may have older homes that have been out there for a long time that could have a broken piece of equipment, it's worth it.

Everything that I've dealt with American Home Shield so far has been fine. It's very easy to submit a claim. There's the online, the app, and a phone number. However, with my most recent claim for the washer, I was not very pleased with the technician. We're not smokers and my wife was complaining that he probably smokes too much. He should at least control it. Maybe do it an hour before, instead of 15 minutes. When he came in the house and brought that in with him, that wasn't fun. This gentleman also chose a short route in trying to fix the washer, and whatever he did didn't fix it.

I called American Home Shield back and told them that it wasn't fixed and that he would have to come out again. They gave me a notification that, from what he told them, it would not be covered under warranty. Right now, we're in the middle of getting a second opinion on that. On the other hand, the company that came out for the previous call was 3 Boys Appliances. They're very professional, nice, down to earth people and they knew exactly what they were doing, which always surprises me. They went straight to the exact root of the problem.
