I had somebody take a look at my refrigerator and they said the problem was my fault 'cause I had too much product in the freezer and those were in the way of the fan. My son suggested that I get American Home Shield's warranty 'cause he has it in Florida and uses it all the time. So, I called AHS for the refrigerator. The tech was on time. He kept distance for COVID and he had gloves on. He knew what the problem was and fixed it. He said that I needed a new fan and he put a new one in. It has been working perfectly since then. Also, I had a second claim to get both my furnaces prepared for winter. They have been perfect since the tech came.
I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. Usually, it takes a week to get somebody out to fix something and when they come, they have an attitude. All of the gentlemen sent by AHS have been very professional. I felt safe and comfortable with them. My husband is quite elderly, and so I take care of everything. I felt good to be with the techs and have them ask me questions.

American Home Shield sent JNJ Pools for a split in the bottom part of the housing for the filter. The tech came out and he pulled it apart. He said, “Well, you got new filters inside there. So, yeah.” He said, normally, they're not as good a shape. But apparently, he said it looked like my top part have been replaced a couple times, but not the bottom part. Wear and tear was the issue and he fixed it. It was pretty quick, simple and easy.
American Home Shield's claim process depends on what the problem is. There's certain things that's not covered that you don't find out until later, but we've kind of already learned all that. But as far as the pool goes and stuff of that nature, it's pretty easy. The JNJ pool people they sent this time was better than the company they used to have.

We just had a garage door belt break. Submitting a claim with Home Shield was very easy. The contractor came out one day after, did everything he needed to do, and was very nice doing it. However, just because of the pandemic, everything has been so slowed down. It has been really disappointing.

I'm happy with American Home Shield. They have been good and I just recommended them over the weekend to a friend of mine. A year and a half ago, my air conditioner went out. I called them and their contractor came. They were prompt and the guy was very honest. Instead of saying I needed a whole new air conditioning unit, he said the issue was simple and he fixed it. That was really good because it was like a gazillion degrees outside and about that hot inside my house. He took care of it very timely.
I was having trouble with my garbage disposal so I went online to schedule a contractor to come out and look at it. They asked, “Have you come up with a prompt? Have you look at the YouTube videos? Have you tried to solve this yourself?” I went in and watched the YouTube video and in five minutes, I'd solved the problem. I was really thankful that they gave me that option instead of saying, “We'll come out and charge you the 75 bucks and fix it in two minutes.” That was really good service, too. Recently, a contractor came out and did my annual checkup on my furnace. The technician that came out was very thorough. It was a good experience.

I had somebody come in to do my annual winter setup for the air conditioning system and heater and they said that one of my systems was rusted in, in theory, inside. It was leaking carbon monoxide and they had to turn off the gas. I called American Home Shield and they were very accommodating. Service Contractor of Texas came out and said that none of that was true. The guy did a very good job.

The contractor came out to fix my dishwasher. Originally, it took a little while to get scheduled and there were some communication issues, but they got me in. Then they had to come back because the first repairman left the part that we needed. So I had to wait an additional couple of days before they fixed it. When they did send someone back, he said that the part didn't need to be replaced, but rather it was a piece of glass blocking the line. So he took that out and replaced the part, but didn't get the chance to test it before he left. So it still wasn't working. They called me to make a follow-up visit and they came out and they had to replace the motor. So then, we had to wait another two weeks for that. But I understand that due to COVID. The most recent repairman was excellent. He did a great job. He was very professional and polite. He worked quickly. The dishwasher is working great now. But it took about a month to get it all resolved.
We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us and please don't hesitate to reach out if you need us in the future. Enjoy your day.

American Home Shield is doing a good job. But the plumbing company that they referred to us before was not good. It was USA Plumbing and they didn't fix the problem. They said the problem was not covered by insurance so we have to look for another way out. So another plumber from Cal-Home fixed the problem and they did a good job.

This is the second house we've had a home warranty through American Home Shield, and both times, we've never had a problem. It's been amazing and I've enjoyed it. Recently, I called them on a Thursday. They said, “Hey, we can get somebody out there Monday to take a look at it.” The guy who looked at it said “Okay. Let me submit this.” The ticket was put in Tuesday and I got a call back on Friday then two different guys came out to do the install on Monday. On both times, they were great. It took a grand total of eight days between start to finish. I loved it.

The tech who came out for an electrical issue was very knowledgeable. He took care of what needed to be taken care of and gave me some good tips going forward. The electricity has been working perfect since. Home Shield is worth the assurance that you can get help fast when something arises that's unexpected and you may not have the funds. They pretty much cover a wide range of services and they're immediately on top of whatever the problem is.

The service contractor came out pretty quickly for our backed up sewer and he appeared to unclog the drains, which I thought was good at the time. But the next morning, when we took a shower, water backed up in the bathtub. I called American Home Shield to say the tech needs to come back. They looked and they said that the claim had been rejected because the plumber said that the cause of the blockage was baby wipes and they don't cover baby wipes. It was not normal wear and tear. I asked where it says in the contract that we can't use baby wipes, which on the container says are flushable, and they could not tell me where it said that but they said they were not covering it. I'm very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. It seems like every time I call, I have a hassle.

I had a plumbing issue and it was taken care of quickly. It was a drain issue. Unfortunately, American Home Shield didn't cover. This was the first time I was using it, so I didn't know they didn't cover it. But I called and got an automatic service, and I just said that it was some water issue. I didn't know it was the drain, so I would not know they didn’t cover that. I didn’t know it was coming from the drain because the water issue was coming in a different place. I would not have called if they wouldn’t cover because then I had to pay extra $100 after I’ve called and directed the plumbing company. Requesting the service was easy though. It would be a good idea next time to double-check if an issue is covered. Otherwise, it’s gonna be again a problem for me because then I have to pay extra $100.

When I called American Home Shield, the first plumbing company that they sent said that it wasn't a leak. The tech came late and he was rushing to go to another job. So he didn't follow protocol. He never tried looking for the leak. He didn’t even turn the water on. He said the leak was coming from the bathtub. But I never heard of that a day in my life. I’ve been dealing with a plumber so what he said didn't mean sense. He said that he could put a whole bathtub in, so he was trying to get business for himself. I called American Home Shield and I told them what happened. They said I have rights to another opinion. My husband said he wanna get somebody else and try to find out what was really going on and what kinda leak. It was getting worse and worse and worse. We told American Home Shield that we needed to get another plumber and they did. The plumber found a leak and they fixed it. Everything went good.
When I called and told the guy about the referral, I don't remember him telling me that I had seven days to do it. So we had to call the supervisors and they said, “Well, it's been since October 20th since you put in the claim. And usually, we don't go so long.” My husband talked to another department. When he talked to them and put in a claim, they said if the new person comes out and they say the same thing as the other plumber said, then we have to pay $100. But if they don't, then we don't have to pay anything.

I found American Home Shield on the internet and it’s probably been a year since I went with them. I’ve had one bad experience with them but everything else has been good. The air conditioner went out so they sent a contractor, which was great. They were very timely and they fixed it. But the next day, the AC wasn’t working. So, I called again and the guy was rescheduled to come back. The guy said that they couldn’t fix it and I might as well put in a new furnace, which cost me $1000. And then, they fixed the air conditioner. But it still didn’t work a day later. I called again and they did something to it and it worked for about five days. It didn’t work again.
I called AHS and they charged me another service fee to fix my air conditioner again. I spent about over two hours on the phone with them and I couldn’t get them to fix my air conditioner without a second service fee. It was never fixed in the first place so they were only supposed to include one service fee of $100. I had to pay $200 to get the same problem fixed that was supposed to have been fixed the first time. By the time we got the air conditioner fixed, the hot weather was already over.
American Home Shield was doing good until then and having to charge me another service fee for the same issue was the only problem I had with them. I still haven’t had that one resolved yet. I’ve written a personal letter to them, which they didn’t respond to. I called three times and spent over two hours on the phone. The second time, they said they would take care of it and I wouldn’t have a service fee, and I still did. They don’t have an email address where you can email them so you kinda call them on the phone and you have to wait a long time to get a hold of them.
I don’t know why they can’t rectify it and why they don’t contact me about it. 100 bucks is 100 bucks. It’d be nice if there was an easier contact where we didn’t have to wait on the phone a long time and since AHS has a website, they should have an email address. And they don’t. That would be a great improvement for their company and it would be more customer-friendly that way, especially since a lot of people are using emails now than ever before.

We tried using our oven and it wasn't working properly, so we contacted American Home Shield. We filed online through the portal. I thought it was great. It was very easy to follow and use. All City Appliance Repair came out the first time to diagnose the issue. They determined it was one of the igniters for the gas portion of the stove and the broiler. They came the second time with the parts to repair it. They were very good. They would usually just call to schedule the appointments and they were very timely. The oven has been working great. This was the first claim that we had ever submitted a claim and it was very seamless. We're very happy.

My mother and I have American Home Shield, and we all got it from my son who has it as well. I called the home warranty company when my washer wasn’t filling up and they set things up for me. As soon as I made the phone call, they took the 125 deductible out of my account. Three days later, Steven Vandervort Appliances came out to my house and then the gentleman put a diagnostics on my washer. He said something was a little off, but it was working perfectly for him. However, we're heading out of town now, so I told the guy that when I get back, we'll schedule a follow-up. It would be sometime during the week of the 16th. With American Home Shield, I don't have to worry about things breaking. For the money that I have to pay for the furnace, it's about half of what I could've otherwise paid. That's a big plus.

Climate Heating and Cooling came out for a service request and they did a nice job. They checked out the furnace and the filter. The filter needed to be replaced and their tech did that for me. He was a very polite young man. I've had no problems with American Home Shield. But I had a problem with one company they sent to install the water heater.
I have very limited space where the furnace, the water heater, and the water softener are. Before, the water heater was a little bit further from the furnace. But the tech who came put the water heater too close to the furnace instead of putting it where it was before. He said this was the way it had to be. But this move made it harder for the furnace man to do his job. I sent AHS a text about this but nobody replied. Other than that one experience, AHS has really done their job. As far as the contract is concerned, they've always helped me out with the companies. If I had a problem, they got a company and I had repairs.

When we turned our heater on last week, it didn't work. We called American Home Shield again because the heat didn't work. When the guy came out here, he said the reason it didn't work is they put in a cheap motor blower and they didn't put it in correctly. I don't think we should've had to pay the $100 fee for someone. It's not American Home Shield's fault. They shouldn't have to pay it either. The people who did the job did a crappy job, and that was the cause of the heater not working. With the exception of the AC, American Home Shield has done a bang-up job. It's just that the cause of the heater going out was the fact that it was put in incorrectly. We were just thinking it seems fair that we should get the $100 back since the company they hired screwed up. The workmanship was shoddy. American Home Shield really has done an awesome job and it's not their fault they did a bad job. I just don't feel we should have to pay that $100.

American Home Shield is way better than my last warranty company, TotalProtect. I was with TotalProtect for a long time. My girlfriend had it as well. TotalProtect started having us schedule our own appointments and they didn't do any contact. They would send us an email with who we could reach out to and a lot of times we couldn't even get ahold of anybody. We needed something to be repaired and it could take a week to reach someone. On the other hand, American Home Shield's overall service is okay. Submitting a claim was easy.
Gilmore's Home Solutions came out for a claim. I was given a call when he was on his way there so I could reach out to my cousin and let him know. I got to see the tech briefly because I had a doctor's appointment. When I was pulling in on my street, he was getting ready to pull off. We pulled up beside each other and spoke. He was pleasant and he explained to me what was wrong. He was prompt too. It was a really good experience.
The only issue I had with American Home Shield was when I was trying to explain what was going on with my refrigerator. There's a language barrier when I'm speaking to the people. There was a guy that came out who said he had in his notes that he was coming to repair two refrigerators. I told him no and I had to continue explaining what the issue was. Other than that, AHS was okay.

The motherboard of my heating furnace burned out. MS Services handled my claim professionally. They gave me a good root cause analysis and it turned out that it was a different problem from what I had fixed before. The drain piece was clogged which caused water to flow into the circuit board and damage it. I understood how the problem happened and how to prevent it from happening again. This has been a seamless experience and having AHS's coverage has worked out well for me. They should encourage real estate agents to throw in their coverage as part of closing to protect new home buyers. That can at least let home buyers see the warranty working which is when they will understand the value of it.

American Home Shield is easy to use. It's easy to get on the website and put a claim in. I had two claims. One was for my icemaker that was overflowing. It wasn't shutting off so I was either getting no ice or a ton of ice. The other one was for the dishwasher. The control panel wasn't working. I couldn't turn it on. I went through American Home Shield's website on the first one then I called it in on the second one. The call in one was probably more difficult. I wanted the same guy to come out so it was suggested that I call in as opposed to going through the website. That same guy came out. He was very good. He answered any questions that I had like what should I be doing as preventative measures to keep things going. I ran the dishwasher once and it seems to be okay. I have to check on the ice machine because when I try to get ice out of the dispenser, it falls all over the place. But it could be just me. Maybe I just need to get a bigger cup.

Plymwr Plumbing was on time and they were efficient. They did a good job. Today, I called American Home Shield about something else and it was impossible. I was speaking with someone in the Philippines and all she kept doing was reading the contract, which I haven't even gotten a copy yet because it's a new policy. Then she said, “Well, I can send you to somebody else. But you're not covered on this, but we can add it to your policy.” She went round and round and I asked if I could talk to a supervisor, but she wouldn't let me. It was absolutely ridiculous. If you ask for a supervisor, then somebody should give you the opportunity to talk to one. I also asked if the representative was in the United States and she said, “No.” I told her that I would like to speak to someone in the United States. She said she couldn't do that and that she didn't have the ability to transfer me.
They said I could talk to somebody about adding something on. When I got the policy, they asked me if I had the salt water pool and I said yes. So I made the stupid assumption that the salt water would be included in the policy. They did not say it wasn't. But now they say I can upgrade it to a salt water policy. I'm not happy about it.

I've had two contractors come in back-to-back recently. I had one that came today for my dishwasher, and then I another one came in for my microwave. They were from two different companies but both servicemen were very professional. They checked both appliances. They spent a few minutes. They let me know that they were going to contact American Home Shield about repairing, and I've heard back from American Home Shield that my microwave has to be replaced. I'm waiting to hear back from the dishwasher because when the serviceman came out, he pulled everything out and he found out the leak had nothing to do with the dishwasher. So he reported it to American Home Shield. But he did find out the problem with the dishwasher.

Queen Electric came out and replaced the outlet. It was an older surge protector and it caught fire. I called American Home Shield to file the claim. I thought the contractor was gonna come. But then I had to read the email, and I had to contact them and set it up. But it’s easy. I called them, they set up an appointment, they came out, they fixed it, and that was it. My wife praised the tech. She definitely gave them their props. They were excellent. She said they came in, did what they were supposed to do, and asked if there was anything else that need to be done. They were in and out. They did an excellent job. I would recommend them for any electrical work.
In August, I got Home Shield. I thought, "I’m always paying somebody to come and do something, so if I do the warranty, I'm paying, but it's not as much.” If something goes wrong, I got a $100 deductible, and that’s all I pay versus if something goes wrong, and somebody come and, “Oh, it’s gonna be $400, $500, $1000.” I only pay $100 with Home Shield, so it’s worth it to me.

My boyfriend has done most of the submitting of claims and it's been a relatively painful process. We wanted to do the furnace inspection through Home Shield, which only cost 75 bucks. It was charged to us, but we still have yet to get re-contacted or receive that furnace inspection from the company. It's pushing a month at this point. It would really be awesome if they allowed the person to choose a vendor of their choice and have them approved through American Home Shield so that you feel a little bit more confident about what you're getting. It would be a really great way for clients to control a little bit more of the process for themselves. Because I know of a vendor that would've been able to get us in and finished by now. But we can't use them because we have to use whoever American Home Shield gives us.
We've also been in rodeo now with multiple refrigerator repair people, and our refrigerator is still not quite fixed. The refrigerator issues has been going on for quite some time. It's not to discredit of American Home Shield, but it's to the discredit of any manufacturer of LG appliances, because they're awful. Overall, we've been very pleased with what American Home Shield has given us and the information they've given us too. We're first-time homeowners, so the information that we've received from American Home Shield has been extremely helpful. There were amazing things recommended to us as first-time homebuyers so that we weren't making mistakes. The rekey process that was suggested to us was fabulous because we would've never known that the master keys from when the construction people built the house are still in the house.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

We had a plumbing problem. There was a leak that's been going on for years in the toilet in our rental. The contractor that AHS sent discovered it, fixed it and it quit the meter from spinning. However, I don't like waiting on the phone for half an hour to speak to somebody at AHS. It doesn't matter what phone number I call. They've got umpteen different phone numbers to call. The last several times I've called, I've had to sit and wait for somebody to get on the line for almost half an hour. But other than that, when they get on the phone, I don't have any problem with them.

Buster's tech knew exactly what was wrong with the washing machine and went back to get the part ordered. The first time he came out, he checked the code that the machine read and fixed that. He said it was all done, and left. He showed us that the machine was filling up and emptying out. But once we put the clothes in 30 minutes after he left, it started doing the same thing again. So, we called him back.
He came back with a new part. He took the machine apart, said it was the water hose and the pump, and he put in all new parts. He left again and everything seemed to be working. Within an hour after he left, the machine didn't work at all. He tried to see that it was going to work. And he said, "It's not this. It's not working at all." So, he said, "It looks like it's the computer board or something in the washing machine. We have to order that." He said because the machine is as old as it is, it may take longer or they may not even find the part. We were without the machine for almost two and a half months. I had to take clothes either to my daughter's house or to the laundry and pay someone to wash them. It was inconvenient, especially when you're working.
Other than that, Home Shield has always fixed everything that we've had to have fixed before, so there has never been a problem. The services are good and they do everything possible to fix whatever it is that you called for. What took so long on our recent claim was finding the part. They had to find it. A lot of stuff comes out of China, and with the COVID, they have to wait, and it goes through the process.

We were having trouble with one of the toilets and it has a history of not clearing over the last several weeks. We didn't know what the problem was. The guy with Bubba's Plumbing came out, looked at it, ran a snake down there and said he hit something. It's now flushing okay. He did a pretty good job. The problem was he never went outside to check the cleanout line. We had rain and ice buildup on our house and on the ground too. When the ice started melting, there was a crack in my key line out here in the cleanout. The plug on that cleanout was lost somehow. It was open. When the water was coming off the roof, it was filling up the line and backing up all the sewer from the street. It was going down my neighbor's driveway. We called back and said, "We need an emergency over here. We can't have this. I live in a country club." Even if I didn't live in a country club, we can't have sewer in the city running down into the street.
American Home Shield said that they would try to get somebody out there but couldn't. The lady that we called back to said that she called three other plumbing companies and nobody could come out. Bubba's couldn't get out here until the next day. I had to go call a plumber to get him out here to get this thing fixed. I had to pay him on top of Bubba's so it cost me another 140 bucks. I wouldn't have had to spend the extra $140 had the plumber gone outside and looked at the lawn. It didn't arbitrarily get cracked or dislodged by itself. It didn't do that from the time he left to the time he was gonna come back in two more days. Under emergency situations, there ought to be somebody that we could call. But overall, American Home Shield does a pretty good job.

My air conditioning unit that sits outside had a short, and Crispy Air & Heating came out in a timely manner and took care of the issue. I did two claims with American Home Shield at the same time. My hot water heater is rusting through. The contractor are coming out today, and that won't be good because they will not replace it today. They come out, they take pictures and send it to American Home Shield to determine next steps. That would be a negative experience.
I've had good and bad experiences with American Home Shield. I did have one other issue with my air conditioner. It was peak summer and they did not get somebody dispatched timely. The first technician they sent out looked at the air conditioner and said, “We don't work on these.” Then, I had to wait another two days. So, I waited four days in a 100+ degree heat. But in terms of Crispy Air, that was a very good experience. I've done claims both online and over the phone. The person I talked to was overseas. They struggled a little bit to understand my issue. That was on the first claim on the air conditioning unit. As far as the contractors, everyone's been friendly, respectful and when they knock at the door, they're wearing masks.

When the first guy came, we asked if he had done this kind of oven and he said that it was complicated I said that we had a one-time bad experience a long time ago and if he didn’t know how to fix it and it might get complicated, then somebody has to come. He said we should send somebody else. He looked like he was uncomfortable in working on it. So, we had to pay again to have another person come. The second person fixed the oven.
We’ve been with American Home Shield for about 20 years and this is the second time it has happened. There was another guy once who came for the refrigerator and he opened everything, and he didn't know how to fix it. AHS sent somebody else and when the guy came, he said that it was terrible the way that the other guy left the refrigerator because this wire was supposed to have a cover over it. There was none and it could have been connected and not just the refrigerator could have blown up but our home too. For high-end appliances, a good person should come so they know what they’re doing. The time that we have to spend to be home was a little bit harder but we’ve been happy with AHS.

I went online to put in the claim to American Home Shield for the dishwasher which would turn on but wouldn't do anything after that. The site was easy to navigate but there was no place to put an explanation of what was exactly going on with the dishwasher. The options were broken or not turning on. Some of them applied to a certain extent but it didn’t let me explain. Then, when I got a confirmation, it said something about the replacement of my dishwasher. It didn't necessarily need to get replaced. Maybe it was something that wasn't working properly. The technician came out and he was able to fix it. So maybe it was the wording that was used that was a little bit confusing.
The technician listened to what I was telling him and I showed him what the dishwasher was doing as well as the noises that it was making when I turn the power on. He fixed the problem and when he left, the dishwasher was running through the cycle. When we opened the dishwasher to load some of our dishes, I realized the door wasn't opening properly. When I opened the dishwasher all the way down so that the bottom rack can roll on to the door, it made a pop and lifted a portion of the dishwasher up under the counter. Something was wrong with it and I didn’t know what was going on. My husband got under there and looked at it. He said a thing was on upside down.
When the technician removed the dishwasher out, he put one of the things on backwards so, my husband had to fix that. But it was an easy fix. There was a screw missing so he must have dropped a screw. My husband has extra screws downstairs so he was able to turn the little pad around and then screw it back in. The person who came in was very professional and he didn't leave a mess. Wherever there was water that spilt from the dishwasher, he wiped it right up. So all that was absolutely fine although I wish I didn't have to wait a whole week and a half before somebody came out. But with COVID, that's understandable. Things and stuff are limited.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

We had a leak in the basement by the heating and air conditioning unit over the summer. We called American Home Shield and they sent out the Interstate Heating. The first time they came out, they said the drain was clogged and they cleared it. The problem didn't go away so I called them again. Then they said that up in the unit, the drain was blocked, and they fixed that. Of course, it didn't go away again.
I called them the third time and they did a pretty thorough investigation of the unit. They found out that the unit had a leak in the refrigerant. When that happens, the cooling coils cool down considerably and they ice over and that's where the water was coming from. They called American Home Shield and American Home Shield authorized the changing out of my air conditioner and condenser. I was very pleased with the service I received both from American Home Shield and also from Interstate. There were a couple of service calls on my refrigerator too. I recommend American Home Shield very highly. I told my family and friends that they should put this policy on their house. It's about $100 a month and it's $100 deductible for a service call versus a 5,000 to $6,000 charge for an air conditioner.

My hot water heater was not giving me any hot water. I did the claim online the first time and then I had to call them because the contractor had to come out three times. When the service guy came out the first time, he put the new parts in. But about three days later, it stopped working. I reset it and it got hot again. But then, it went out again. So I called them and they came out. The service guy said there was a wire loose that they didn't tighten up the way they were supposed to. He reset it and went off. Another five days later, it went out again. So I called them again and the service guy said it looked like the thermostat on the heaters were burnt out. Since the last time they were here, the hot water heater seems like it's doing okay. I liked both of the service guys. They were nice. Overall, my experience was pretty good. I was happy that I didn't have to keep on paying. It was billed on the same service, so it was good.

We knew there was a problem at the gates. A few months ago, we called and said the furnace was not working. The guy double-checked it and he said everything was fine. Then, our heater stopped working, and it was our thermostat before we moved in the house. The guy just replaced it, and now, it was fixed. That’s $100, $100, $100 later, $300 when we have any third step. I've also called for a dryer and they said it was fine. It's nice to know if something really broke, American Home Shield would fix it. But I'm understanding that they don't replace anything.

The technician for my washer was very professional, but I had one in the past that I didn't agree with. Early in the year, we had a situation where there were some problems with the plumbing in our house and the people that American Home Shield sent never even went in and inspected it. My husband was there. The guy went halfway under the house and said that the problem with the plumbing was not normal wear and tear. We don't go under the house and mess with anything. How was it not normal wear and tear? The contractor wrote up a report that caused us to not be covered. I was very upset about that.
I complained about it, but it didn't get resolved by American Home Shield. I had to get an independent contractor to come in and fix the pipe under my house that the AHS contractor said we messed up, and then they fixed the sewer problem. With the plumbing being connected to the sewer, American Home Shield covered the sewer (the damage that was done in my house), but not the plumbing. I thought that was a bit unfair. Other than that isolated incident, we've been pleased with the service. I still consider them fair and very responsive.

If we were to hire an electrician to do something in here, we would probably call them. But when we had to have the refrigerator repaired, the tech from Sears was a nightmare. Within the first 10 minutes, I told him to leave. My husband was also home and he was livid. So then every time we would put the claim in, this guy would cancel it. It took forever to get it done. We talked to the people at Sears and this guy had been giving them a hard time for a really long time. He was the only contractor that I had a problem with.

I had two back-to-back claims with American Home Shield. I did a claim for my dryer that was not working and I also had a winter tune-up for my furnace. When the contractor from Fick's was there, he was very nice. He answered the questions that I had. He did tell me that he was turning my gas with the temperature or the pressure. He was turning it down because I have too strong of a filter. He was saying the furnace was working too hard. It would shut itself down. He also said if I had any questions or any issues, to call him back.
That same day, I went out and asked the filter that he recommended me to get. It was in the price range that he said. They were at my home last Tuesday. This past weekend here in Maryland, it was cold and I had to turn my heat on. However, I had to turn my thermostat all the way up to properly heat my home. So I called American Home Shield and let them know what was going on. I also let them know that the guy was just out there and asked if he could come back because he said if I had any problems, to call him back.
They said they'd reach out to the contractor. They called the contractor and had the contactor to reach out to me. When I talked to the contractor, the lady at the office talked to the technician that was at my house and he said that if I wanted him to keep the temperature where it’s at, just turn my thermostat up which means I'm gonna have a higher gas and electric bill. If I wanted him to come back out to adjust my thermostat or to adjust the temperature or my furnace, then that was gonna be another service call. I was not happy with it.
When I called American Home Shield to tell them about it and what was going on, they said what I did was maintenance and not a service call so I would have to pay another $75 in order for Fick’s to come back out and fix my furnace to turn my temperature back up. I said, "It's unacceptable because you took my $75 in 2.5 seconds to even schedule the appointment and he told me that if I had a problem, to call him back. What happened to your 30-day rule?” They said the 30-day rule does not apply to tune-ups. I said, again, “Not acceptable. I need to speak with a supervisor.” This was two days ago and I still have yet to speak with a supervisor.
At this point, I'm getting a little pissed and a little perturbed in reference to that. I'm about to cancel my contract and go with another company. No one ever called me back and I should not have to call them back to properly answer my questions and tell me why. If the technician turned me down, why can't he come back and turn me back up or check and see.
For my dryer, they sent an appliance guy out. He said it was nothing for him to do. Something is going on with my electric. He was only getting 120 when he should be getting 240 and to call an electrician. I called American Home Shield back and they had an electrician to come out. He tested it and said, “You need to call your local gas and electric company. It's nothing that I can do to fix this. They're gonna have to fix this.” I called my local gas and electric. They came out the same day and fixed the problem.
Two days later, I called American Home Shield and said to roll my money over from the appliance side to the electrician because the appliance guy did not do anything. It was the same thing with the electrician. I should get my $75 back because the technician did not fix anything. He referred me because he could not fix the problem. They told me they're not refunding my $75 because the electrician completed the call by telling me to call PGE. So two things happened within the same day where I was not satisfied with the answer. That answer is ludicrous to me from American Home Shield.
I am not happy at all. I'm on my second year having them. I've made four calls to them and three of the four calls ended up bad. Earlier this year in June, I had another big episode issue with them in reference to my air conditioner. I would not recommend anybody to come to them because their customer service is horrible. I'm getting the problem fixed outside of them.

Plus, anytime you have a service call, it was $125 and you didn't know whether they were going to fix something or replace it till after. I had it because I have an air conditioning but it only covers $1,500 towards a new air conditioner, so it didn't seem worth keeping it. I’ve only used it one other time and I have cancelled the service.

I had a stopped up sink in my master bathroom. Hughes Plumbing came out and the tech was great. I could tell he was an older guy and he had been doing it for a while. I had a garbage disposal that he also looked at. Somebody else had looked at it before and told me I had to replace the whole thing and they would charge me $142, but the only thing in it was a penny. It was just something as simple as using a flashlight to look down in it. So, the guy did a great job. It was a great company to go with.
American Home Shield is awesome. It's a program that everybody should have because the furnaces, water heaters, and even the plumbing, are an expensive fix. I'm just paying $100 for contractors to come out. If I would've gone with a plumbing contractor, then they would charge me 142 just for the garbage disposal. That wasn't the clogged sink in my bathroom, which was a whole another $100-something. I would've been out of my pocket about 400 or 500 bucks.

There was a problem with my water dispenser on the refrigerator. It was dispensing some goo besides the water. The technician came out within a couple of days. He said that the problem was that I've never changed the filter. I didn't even know that there was a changeable filter on there. That casing around the filter was bad as well so parts were ordered. It took less than a week for the parts to come in. They called me when the parts came in and we set up a second appointment several days after that. He came out and fixed both of those things, and now the water is fine. That was about a week and a half from start to finish. The technician was very nice. He was polite and knowledgeable. He wore his mask and gloves too. I felt very comfortable.

I had an issue with my toilet. This particular contractor I used, Joy Plumbing, was extremely professional. As soon as they were assigned to me, I got a call within 30 minutes. We were able to schedule an appointment that fit my schedule. The person they sent out was professional. I explained my issue and he explained everything that he was gonna do. After he fixed the toilet, he stayed around for about 30 minutes because he wanted to do a dye test to make sure that everything was completed and fixed.
I’ve used American Home Shield for an electrical issue before. I do all my claims online and the process has always been pretty easy. Someone is always assigned immediately from them. Then it's up to the contracting company to get in contact with me. I happen to be working from home, so the process is going a lot faster now because the communication is coming directly from our cell phone. For the price that I pay monthly to American Home Shield, it's definitely worth it, especially if you own a home, because things happen. Prior to having them, I paid out of pocket for things that I need. The monthly cost than what I actually get when I do need them, in my opinion, is just worth it.

The stove kept going on and off. You'd be cooking and using the oven, and it would totally go out. Then, maybe 10 minutes later, it’d come back on. With the holidays, I can't afford for the stove to be going out. Then in the refrigerator, the top ice maker was frozen. I have a dual ice maker in the door and at the bottom, and they both were freezing up or sticking. The tech cleaned them out. Then the top one didn’t work after he got it cleaned. He had to come back, and he put a new one in the door one. The bottom one worked after he cleaned it. The stove had a loose wire in the back of it. The guy did an excellent job. I would tell others to get American Home Shield because a friend of mine told me to get them. So, we pay it forward.

This time, the service was excellent. The repair people were out here. The tech checked it out, and ordered a part for the heater. He was very gracious and had his mask on. He was great. He came back and put the new part on, and everything was fine. Two years ago, when I used Home Shield for my dryer, it never got fixed. They put a new motor on it. That wasn't what was wrong. Finally, they quit even corresponding with me, and I gave up and got a different dryer. I almost canceled then. I was thinking about canceling now. And now that this worked out great, I'm just gonna sit back and watch, and see what happens. It has only been a few days since the tech put the new part on. So far, it's working great.
Home Shield was the only company available for the home warranty on a mobile home. I just took it because it came through the escrow, and I've kept it ever since. It's quite expensive. And at some point, I'm not going to be able to afford it because I am 80 years old, and I live on a fixed income. But this heater that I have is old. And I just felt like I needed to keep it for a while longer before I cancel. But that's where I come to have got it. The people that Home Shield sent out here, the Austin Heating and Cooling company, did not have good reviews at all. I read all the reviews on them, and only two or three had good reviews, and the rest were awful. And I thought, “Oh gee, what have I got myself into?” I was really surprised and thrilled that it worked out like it did.

It was easy to install so it was taken care of very fast. The second one for the air conditioner is still pending. It's been two weeks since I heard from the guy. He said he'd be back with a part to install. I had to call him yesterday. They apologized and said the part was on backorder. But he’d come out Thursday to install it. I had a pipe that burst in my basement and then two toilets that were running. Sometimes, they wouldn't be flushed but I'd hear the water run. Filing the claim was difficult and time-consuming. I was on the phone for almost an hour trying to explain and making sure that the lady understood what I was trying to say. But then the contractor that was sent out was excellent. Before he got here, it started raining a little and so he came in to look at the house to see what he needed to do inside and outside. Then he said he would do the inside first before he'd go down to get mud on his shoes. I thought that was very thoughtful. He fixed the flappers on the toilet and then went downstairs and fixed the other thing, made sure all the lights were off there, came back up, and told me it was done. Everything's been fine. I'm able to water my grass. It was connected to the outside water and it had to all be turned off.
However, I was unexpecting that American Home Shield doesn't cover the icemaker in the refrigerator. I'm still trying to settle an issue on that and my dryer. These little things have to be read very carefully in the contract to make sure what's covered. If you don't know your insurance contract, then you don’t know the exclusions versus coverage and all of that. My expectations were that when they were selling the policy, everything's covered, but no. I had a situation where someone came out and I had to pay them $75 for this co-pay just to tell me the thing wasn't covered under my policy, which was very frustrating. That's what took so long the other day. I was trying to make sure with this lady that I spoke with if the things would be covered. I knew it would be on the toilet but I wouldn't have paid $75 just to have any flappers fixed. But I had to do the water anyway.

A-US was great. But what happened was, on the previous situation that we had with our gas, they didn't turn it back on. So, A-US Air came out and said they just didn't turn the gas back on. I haven't contacted American Home Shield for the $75 that we paid for for the contractor to come out. It wasn't really needing to be serviced. They just should have turned the gas back on when they turned it off because our oven gas was leaking.
In general, everything else with American Home Shield is fine. They usually get someone out. When I call, they schedule and someone comes out. It took them a long time to find something for my dryer when it had to be replaced but outside of that, they provided the service. They sent someone out. When the issue is something like your gas, they still keep it as a schedule. The only thing that I don't like is that if it's something like gas, it should be an emergency. But they don't make the service providers or the people that are actually coming out to put precedence over certain things. Maybe it's because the list that they already have is an emergency. The only thing that concerns me is when you have children or an elderly that's in the home, they don't have a system together to make it an emergency, where you take you take precedence over just complaints.
Also, this is not for American Home Shield per se, but there's a gap for other issues that happens in the house. So they may want to extend it for insurance on things that are not always appliances. Some people would pay for insurance for certain things like a hole in the wall or things of that nature. There's no one we can call that we know that we can trust. That could be another service that American Home Shield could provide. It will be something to protect your home because we don't trust just anyone coming in our home. American Home Shield will provide that kind of level of trust because they have contracts with these people. Everybody doesn't wanna hire just a random contractor. Overall, American Home Shield has been beneficial.

I called for an annual inspection. Home Guard came out and inspected it. They found nothing wrong with it. About a week later, the inducer motor started making noise. It's the actual motor that takes the exhaust that the furnace produces, and it sends it out the pipe. So I went down there and sat in front of the furnace until I heard it, making a noise and where it was coming from. Unfortunately, it was a weekend. So what ended up happening was, I called and I got the automated system of AHS. They said they were gonna send out a notice to the contractors. They gave me a telephone number for Home Guard.
Because we were freezing, it was the first very cold day that we had here, I called them offhand. Their answering machine was full and there was no person that answered. So I panicked. Then I tried to call AHS up and tell them specifically what the problem was and get a different company. When I called them, they also only had an answering machine.
So then Sunday morning came, Home Guard called me back on the first call. So I canceled the other one. Home Guard came in and they brought a new motor, and they changed it. It's been fine ever since. Once I got ahold of them, they performed excellently. They were professional. However, American Home Shield could set up some system for emergency calls, where they can let the supplier know it's an emergency. Also, I can't schedule things online with AHS. I have a problem with doing that. So I have to call in, and then I prompt the trigger system. But so far, they've really been good.

I submitted a claim with AHS because the refrigerator cooling unit was filling up with ice and it apparently was a known issue. The first company that American Home Shield sent out just defrosted it and left it that way. I guess they didn't know to look in whatever database it was to figure out that the whole cooling unit needed to be replaced because Samsung actually makes a kit for this specific problem. So, with the second service call I placed with AHS, a couple of months later, they replaced the entire cooling unit. It's only been a week, but it's working noticeably better.
Having the warranty has been helpful so far. I don't have any problem with American Home Shield. It's good to know that they verify that the people they're sending out are up to date on their safety issues because I'm considered high risk for COVID. So having strangers in my house with no mask on isn't good. But that wasn't the case at times with others.

They said that we had to be referred to somebody else and they would see if they could refer me ‘cause AHS hadn't done it.
The person from American Home Shield that I was talking to did not understand English. They did not understand refrigerator. They completely missed the fact that without a working refrigerator, being a diabetic on insulin, I had no place to put my insulin to keep it cold. Other than that, we were fine. The other company did great as far as cleanliness. I didn’t like the way the person on the phone acted. I said, "I'm sorry, if it isn't covered, I'm not gonna get it done." I was not satisfied because that was not covered. I liked the guy who came out and did the tune-up. He was certainly friendly. I gave him a good review because I thought he did something nice. But two days later, the upstairs air conditioning and heating system stopped working completely. At the end of last week, our second one stopped working. We called American Home Shield and they said, “We can't send the same people out. Everybody has to take their turns. We'll send someone else out.” We had to wait for the guy to come out and he came today. He said, “I'm not certified to work on your air conditioning unit. I'm gonna have to call someone else.”
We paid the $75 for the tune-up but something must have happened. We have never had that happen before but they just both stopped working right away. The guy who came out today said, “If anyone else tries to work on it who's not certified, they will damage your air conditioning. There’s not many people certified for this type of air conditioning.” Someone else new is coming out tomorrow. We put a claim in for a dishwasher back in '15 or '16. The issue was the heat pump that was kinda messed up. It wasn't working at all. It was a good service. There were two other people that came out. And because I had Mike's Clean Air come out before, I asked them to come because one of the gentlemen said that the heat pump was underneath the back of the house to the back of the crawlspace, and they were not gonna go that far down to pull that out, drag it all the way underneath the house and bring it out.
Mike's Clean Air was so courteous. They got right down there, assessed the job, ordered the part, came back and explained the process to me to make sure that I understood what was going to happen. At that point, I was kinda dissatisfied because there were two other companies that came out and couldn't seem to assess the job. I called American Home Shield and let them know, “This is my problem. I had blockage in my kitchen sink along with the basement sink. They're all tied into one drain. I called up AHS on a Friday and they sent a plumber out very quickly. The plumber came out on Monday. He said he was going to rod the drain. He went in the basement and rodded for about 40 minutes and said that it was beyond him and that he couldn't get it. He told me I had to have it water jetted or some special process because rodding wa not working. Then Emergency Plumbing was contacted and they were gonna come out here and do the water jetting. The tech came out two days later on Wednesday and asked me what the issue was. I told him the issue and I showed it to him. He decided that he was going to rod again as well. It was the same thing as the first plumber did. About a half hour later, he fixed the problem. He pulled out a big clog and all was well.
It was a shame that he did the same process as the first guy did. I felt bad for two reasons. One is that I didn't have a drain for six days, and two is that AHS ended up paying for two plumbers to come out. They should've just called Emergency first and got the job done right the first time. Even though the first guy was really nice, he didn't get the job done. AHS performed so well with me. I got immediate reaction from them. When I called them to tell them about the situation, they apologized up and down for my inconvenience. I decided to also have them cover my condo that is in Scottsdale, Arizona. I just signed up for the condo yesterday.

I recommend American Home Shield to anybody I know that has a house. None of my appliances are brand-new. When I first moved in to my house in 2016, I had to shell out 700 bucks for a new refrigerator within a week, so it made sense to get coverage. My dad had a different plan that they didn't have contractors in the area, so it was a big mess. On the other hand, I've never had any issue because American Home Shield has always had contractors in the area. My experience has been excellent.
This is my second contract year. I just renewed in August. I don't make so many claims and everything is auto deducted from my account, so I'm rarely on their website. When I've used it though, it's been fine. The contractors have all been good as well. One time, I got an email for a $75 check-up thing and Quality Climate Heating & AC was here to do it.
Thank you for providing us with feedback about your AHS experience. We strive to provide you with fast and efficient repairs. We hope you continue to enjoy the coverage we provide!

It was really a good experience submitting a claim with AHS. The tech that came for our dishwasher recently presented himself well. He asked were we offended about a mask or did we want him to wear a mask. We advised him to go ahead and put the mask on. I like that he asked 'cause you got people on different sides of this thing. So he kept the mask on. He was very professional. He explained what he did, just a good job overall. I have two sons and I tell both of them that AHS is good.

I'm trying to figure out why I'm paying all the homeowners with American Home Shield. They aren't really beneficial. I had a claim for plumbing but it wasn't part of the plan. And the way that they ended up, I wouldn't recommend them to anybody 'cause I had to skim through the contract. They ended up wasting my time. American Home Shield should've just told me straight up that they weren't gonna cover it and I could've just paid for it at the beginning.
The claims process was a little bit easy. I called in and then I created an account that I was tracking it with. I got the notification on Saturday from American Home Shield but the contractor never called me back. So I went on ahead and found me somebody else to start the process 'cause I couldn't just be waiting on them. I've started the process two days ago and I'm gonna let them do what they do and take their time 'cause it is costing me six grand out of pocket to do it. Luckily, God allowed me to have money put away. If I didn't have money and if I didn't have my job right now, I'd be trying to figure out how to put this issue back together with something I purchased with the home.

American Home Shield covers most of the issues I've had. They’re all right. I've used my home warranty a fair bit. My dishwasher broke a couple of times and I also made a claim for my pool pump. Recently, I told them when I made a claim that the issue was from my sump pump. They sent the guy out and I was out 75 bucks, but they couldn't fix it due to the warranty. I really wished American Home Shield would have said that's not covered ‘cause it’s outside of the home.

We got started with American Home Shield at the suggestion of our Realtor when we bought our house, and the seller provided the first year. We're on our sixth year in the house, and I definitely feel it's been a good return on investment to have peace of mind knowing that if any systems were to go out, they're covered for repair. However, we had a set of problems with our dishwasher, and it was a very long drawn-out process that ended up with us getting a new dishwasher ‘cause they couldn't fix it. It could have been the fault of the dishwasher and not the person fixing it though. After that, I submitted a claim via email for my oven and it appears to be the opposite of that experience. The heating elements in our oven had gone bad and the contractor got it fixed and it's done. He was great by phone and in person too. This particular contractor did well.

I have liked American Home Shield a lot. I wasn't totally sure whether it was worth it or a good idea. We got two years included when we bought the house and I'm pretty sure we're gonna continue it. We’ve used them for three or four things. Eric from Royal Plumbing came out and fixed our plumbing issue. I've worked with him before on other issues and he's good. One of our roommates told me that water was leaking through the tub. It came through the recessed light then it ended up on the floor and in the basement. Now, we don't have a leak.
Finding contractors in Philly is a huge pain in the **. Being able to do work with American Home Shield then them sending someone out, I can't give them better reviews in terms of the value for us. Requesting for service is super easy. They have a good online interface. Even when I’ve had to call for different things, it's not super long wait times. If they could expand services to include more options, that's good from a consumer perspective. In the beginning, it wasn't 100% clear to me which things would be covered versus not. A lot of where people get frustrated would be if there's a mismatch in expectations or they thought something would be covered and it's not. But it's because they didn't really understand what they were signing up for. Anything that American Home Shield can do like infographics would be good.

I didn't have any trouble with it until recently when it quit drying and it wouldn't heat up. I called a claim in and the rep whom I was speaking to put me on hold. She never came back on though. I was on my phone for 20 minutes and when I looked at my phone, I saw that I had a new rep coming. I thought she was gonna talk to her supervisor about the problem but she just gave my call to another rep. The next thing I knew, there was a message saying that i was scheduled for service on November 4th.
Everything was great when American Home Shield's contractor came. But when he left, my dryer started making a really loud noise. The guy wasn't even gone 20 minutes and the dryer squeaked so darn loud when I used it that I had to turn it off. It would squeak and squeak and then get quieter. The technician from Foster's Heating & Air was very professional and knowledgeable. When I showed him the video of what it was doing, he knew exactly what the problem was. He explained a lot of things about my furnace that a few other repair guys didn't explain to me. He told me a way that I can save money, as far as with different filters. My flame sensor was dirty and he explained to me the type of sensor that it was, and that it was a stupid design and they always do that. He did a great job. He got my furnace back up and running. He was one of the best furnace repair guys that I've encountered in the last eight years.
I had Choice Home Warranty before and they were horrible. Hardly anything was covered and they sent out the raggediest, dirtiest and the most stinky people they could to fix my furnace. The igniter went out on my stove and they sent this guy out, his hair was all over the place and he was dirty. He brought his phone for a flashlight and a pair of pliers, took my $60 and never came back. Choice didn't even reimburse me. So I'm extremely happy with American Home Shield. It's been good that we've had a couple of little incidences and we got somebody out here quickly, and the problem has been settled. The most recent issue was the hot water heater. It just stopped working. We went without it for close to a week. There was a lot of cold water and showers were very quick. I thought the issue might have just been a pilot light, and I tried to get it going. Then, by the time we called American Home Shield, it was a holiday weekend. So, by the time they could get somebody out here, it was like another four days. It was the earliest they could do.
We were recommended to American Home Shield because some neighbors had it as well, and they were happy with it. So, we called. Our house was getting a little older and we realized, “You know, it's probably gonna start having problems in the next few years.” Submitting a claim to them has been easy. We wanted the contractor to replace both of the springs but they said they couldn't. The tech claimed that he wasn't authorized to replace the other one. But a phone call could have resolved that. They could only replace the one that was not functioning. Lo and behold, two and a half months later, AAA Action was out again to replace the other spring. It seemed kinda crazy to me. It seemed reasonable to me that when one spring goes, you look at the other one and if you can tell that it's about to go, why wait until it actually goes before you replace it, especially when you're already out there? Otherwise, American Home Shield has done a pretty good job. I've been very satisfied with the work that they've done except for the issue with the garage door.

The plumber said that it was broken because we misused our faucet, which is ridiculous. How do you misuse a faucet? He flat out lied. The guy told me they would get in touch with me to replace it and then when I called because they didn't get in touch with me, the contractor said, "Oh, we decided you're responsible for this." When I complained to American Home Shield, they said they were taking him off of my list of plumbers that could come to my house.
One time, I did an online order because my air conditioner was leaking. The air conditioning company came out and they tried to weasel out of doing a repair. The guy said I should replace the whole system, but that American Home Shield wouldn't cover it 'cause there was mold there. He was courteous, but what needed to be done was a duct cleaning and mold removal, and he said that was not something they were responsible for. I ended up putting in a $6,000 air conditioning unit at his recommendation. I did it through someone else, but at the end of the day, I could've just had the cleaning done and that would've been fine.

We're new to Arizona and we've never owned a home. And so, we were not sure what the problem was. But if we plugged something in on some of the outlets, it would flip the breakers. The contractor let me know that on the panel, there was a blue button, which protects the outlets and the power in the house. That's just the way the homes in Arizona are built. Then, my husband had flipped the breaker one time and I didn't know that there was a GFI that helped the other ones run, so they also educated me on that. They were great. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was simple but I wasn't sure if I could submit more than one reason, so I only submitted one. That was a little difficult for me. He was a very thorough in terms of doing his job. Everything's good now even though the process was slow the first time. The second time was much faster, but I've had worse with American Home Shield in the past. The problem is the wait. One time I had to wait a whole week for them to come fix the AC. That experience was horrible. Twice the AC went in the middle of the summer. The first issue was during the pandemic. I had a hard time even getting an agent on the phone. The process to get an agent was long. When I finally got somebody, it took them a while to send someone to the house to fix the issue.
When the person came, they had to order a part. It took a long time before they could even order a part and deliver it. I spent almost three weeks without AC just waiting for them to fix it. Judging on what my other experiences with American Home Shield were, I said, “Well, maybe it's a specific circumstances that led to that, because my other experience, previously, were fine.” I did not let that skew my opinion about American Home Shield. We were having issues with our air conditioning for the past two years. It was hard to deal with. It made me discouraged to call and have the refrigerator checked or serviced because of the headache that I had to endure in dealing with the air conditioning people happened again. They have been out three years in a row during the summertime. Last year was the worst. When I made a claim for the air conditioning unit, it took weeks before they sent anybody out. This went on so long last year. American Home Shield told me which company they were gonna send out. I called the company because they said I could call them directly.
The company kept saying they haven't got the work order from American Home Shield. So then I called American Home Shield back and they said they sent it. I called the company back and they said they still haven't got anything from American Home Shield. So, this kept going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Everybody was passing the buck. In the meantime, we were having a heatwave. We finally got somebody out and this guy pulled up and drove off. Then he told the company that he fixed the job. But he didn't even come out of the car.
I had to call American Home Shield back again. It finally got to the point where I lost it. I told American Home Shield that they needed to send somebody out here. It was 125 degrees. I needed my air to work. I was literally crying. I called the air conditioning company back after speaking with them, and the owner of the air conditioning company felt so bad. He said he would deal with American Home Shield, but he was gonna send someone out to my house because it was ridiculous that I've been going back and forth.
This year, I called American Home Shield since I needed to have my air conditioning serviced. The guy said it was a work order and it should take 24 hours. So the next day, I called the air conditioning company and told them American Home Shield sent them the information. So I was wondering if they got the work order. It was way before 5:00 when I talked to them. So I figured it was evening time. People were trying to go home. They may or may not got it. But it should have gotten there electronically by the morning. But the company said, “No, ma'am. Do you have an ID number? Because we don't have a work order.” So I gave him the ID number that American Home Shield sent me. He told me that the ID number was correct, but they still haven't got the work order.
I called back the company and there was nothing again. I waited another day. I called back American Home Shield and I spoke to another young man and he told me that he called the company and they said they got the work order. But I just talked to them and they said it's been two days. The rep said he just sent another one over there, so I need to give it another 24 to 48 hours. But it had already been almost 48 hours at that point. It’s electronic so they should have had it by now. It doesn't take that long, electronically to get a work order. The rep said, “Ma'am, I did the best I can. And it’s just your air conditioning unit.” I said, “No, your best is telling me, ‘Ma'am, can you please hold on? Let me call on the other line and see that they get it.’”
American Home Shield gets their money every month because I have it come right off my American Express card. So for the rep to take this attitude with me, I asked to speak to his supervisor. But he said he answered my question for me and that he did the best he could. I told him that I was very clear on what I asked him to do and asked again to put his supervisor on the phone. He said he didn't understand why I was offended and wanna talk to a supervisor. I told him again to put his supervisor on the phone. Then he told me tat he didn't know if they would be able to get to me and that he could take my number and have them call me back. But I told that I would hold because at that point, I didn't trust him that he was gonna give them my information.
I sat on the phone for two and a half hours, and a supervisor never got on the line. It got to the point where I had to leave to go to work. So I said I had to release the call and asked to have someone call me back. The first call that I made was on 10/22. I called back on 10/23, and again on 10/24. To date, no one has called me back.
At this point, the purpose of me calling and getting everything done through American Home Shield is because we just sold the property. We wanna make sure that the air conditioning and the appliances are working fine. I called back and said that I still have not gotten a call from anybody from American Home Shield or the air conditioning company. I've been in contact with the air conditioning company and they still said no work order. I finally asked the man how much it was gonna cost for me to have them come out. My escrow is closing in a few days and I don't have time. I ended up having to pay $60 for an in-home visit to the air conditioning company, directly out of my pocket, which I was paying American Home Shield for.
Five days later, the lady from American Home Shield called me back to say the people were coming to fix the air conditioner. I told her that the air conditioning company came out this morning so she should cancel that $100 I have to pay for them to come out. Once we finally move out, I’ll terminate the service with American Home Shield and try to find another company because of this whole situation.

The fan of my refrigerator was not working. It was not defrosting and it was making a loud noise, so the motor was working overtime. Home Shield immediately sent us a contact number, and the people who would come and fix it. It was over the weekend. American Home Appliance was there within two days. They recognized the problem, ordered the part, and fixed it. The following week, we had it fixed, and it’s working now. They were very professional and courteous. They knew the product and how to take care of it, they explained the issue, and finished the job.

But then the last time I called them for my refrigerator and my stove, they said they didn't get the money even though my bank statement showed that they got the money out automatically out of my checking account before the tech even came out. Still, the tech for the stove went here and got the job done.

Our dishwasher was tripping a breaker, and I called Home Shield because when I tried to close it back in, it would pop. I used to work in the electrical industry and I knew there was a short. Home Shield sent a guy out, and he was very professional. He was very courteous and knowledgeable as well. When he came, he said, "I'm almost sure you got a short, from what it sounds." He said, "We'll start there." Sure enough, it wasn’t a couple minutes after he got the covers off, he found one of the wire nuts had gotten hot and it split. It rubbed up against a shield that was over some of the wires, and that's what was tripping the breaker.
He went on, corrected the problem for me, and showed me the wire nut. It had melted down and it sparked. It left a little soot on that cover that was on there. He cleaned everything up, got everything back, and the dishwasher is running fine now. I was very satisfied and pleased with him. We also laughed and joked a little bit. He told me things about the dishwasher 'cause it's an older model. He let me know some things about how they run, and he also gave them very high marks. He said it was a very good dishwasher that was back in the early 2000s but it's still running.

We bought a new to us house. The house was built in 1983. We asked for the sellers to pay for the majority of the home warranty and we selected Home Shield based on a recommendation from somebody we trusted. We got into the house and there were a couple of things that were not listed in the inspection report, but we found that needed remedy. One of them was that the icemaker on our refrigerator was not functioning properly. We called American Home Shield and paid the $75 service fee, and Jones came out. They told us what they were gonna do, did it, and then got the hell out of dodge. They were great.
At first, they diagnosed the issue using an app on the phone, to just take a picture of the model and serial numbers, and they looked at what was going on and then they showed up and replaced it. It was a very good experience. They were respectful, appropriately protective in terms of wearing gloves and booties and a face mask to protect us, very friendly and very professional.
We also had the key service done. We had our locks switched out after buying the home. That went just fine. We just called today because we put our furnace on for the first time and we have a zone heating system. And the upstairs zone does not seem to be functioning properly. The technician is coming out tomorrow. Home Shield met all my requests. We did our research and tried to identify a good company to provide us with a home warranty service and we're happy with it so far.

Action Mechanical Services came out for a claim and their guy was super nice. But the way American Home Shield has it is the guy will come out to look at the problem then they have to go back and have it okayed by the home warranty. I called the claim in for the garbage disposal. But the guy looked at it and said it was a dual. I would have to call American Home Shield back and tell them to get another order. This was Monday. As of today, I could not get anyone to do anything.
I had the same thing on the toilet. The guy came out, went back, and said I have to get a work order. I started on the 8th and it was the end of October before I got anything done on a toilet that was running all the time. In the meantime, I'm paying 100 and some odd dollars, water, and sewer bills. I blame American Home Shield for this. I’ve never been more upset with a company in my life. I called Roto-Rooter and they came right out and fixed my problem that I’ve waited a week on.
I’ve dealt with two different companies with American Home Shield. With the first one, I told American Home Shield that if they send that person out again, I would cancel my membership. They immediately said they will refund my $125. That was the other thing. Today, they told me they were gonna charge me another $125 even though on Monday, nobody did anything but look at the sink.

Our toilet was having some problems and Honesty Mechanical was sent over. I dealt with the technician and he was very helpful. When he came in, the toilet wasn’t working. When he left, it was working so he did an excellent job. It was easy doing the claim but the problem now is getting some clarification. My husband's having some issues with the invoices we received because we pay every month for service with Home Shield. The Honesty Mechanical people said our invoice is zero but we paid $130 and some change. What did we pay then? Home Shield needs to clarify their billing process.
I'm trying to figure out how their billing system works. Was it a deductible that we paid? Why are we paying for something when we’re on a monthly? I'm not too happy about that. In the five years we've had Home Shield, we only used them twice. At the present moment, I wouldn't recommend them either until that issue gets cleared up. Minus that, the two times we had to use Home Shield worked well. They have good service and exceptional vendors. Typically, everyone they have provided we now use permanently. The vendor that they sent to fix our AC unit is now the vendor we pay annually to come and switch us from heating to cooling and check our system. Also, the gentleman they sent this time for our toilet will be the one I will ask to be sent from now on.

When using the American Home Shield site, it's pretty easy to submit a claim. I had two claims with them. One was a superb experience but the other one was not. With the one that went well, the technician that came out was very knowledgeable in what he was doing. He went above and beyond what I had expected. As for the other one, it was unprofessional to not schedule an appointment and just show up at my house unannounced then proceeded to ask me for the payment that had already been paid to American Home Shield. No work was conducted, there was no inspection and I still paid for $75 for the tech's advice. The only thing that I got from it was, “I will refer you to a specialist.”

Last year was a really bad year for me with Home Shield. They sent out a plumbing company when my hot water heater blew up. Everyone led me to believe that it was a manufacturer problem. Between my State Farm and the people that came, they all agreed that the hot water heater was defective. Where I got in trouble with Home Shield was when their plumber called them and said it was a manufacturer thing so Home Shield cut me off. They said they didn't have anything to do with it. We go on about seven months then it really blows up. Home Shield came in because I called them and I told them that that the plumber they sent to me said it was a manufacturer thing after he said Home Shield wouldn't pay it. He called me back six months later after saying they were working with Ferguson, a plumbing wholesaler, and said it would cost me $1,500 to replace my hot water heater. It was a scam and Home Shield is still using them. It was just horrible. I told Home Shield that their plumber was the guy that turned me off. That contractor gets Home Shield to not cover anything.
I spent $300 over the last five years on that hot water heater. And here it was, a defective hot water heater that Home Shield paid for six years ago to have installed. I'm still paying $100 service charges for a defunct deal, which led me to spend $1,000 on my home insurance on the deductible. That hot water heater should last for 15, 20 years. Now, I gotta replace it and I also have to put all these new code things.
I was about $3,000 in the hole on this hot water heater plus it destroyed my casita. I've gotten over this but it seems like all Home Shield wanted to do was get their $100 in their hip pocket then put me out to drip. I just renewed with them and I spent three different calls out. That’s 300 and 3,000. Nobody was looking out for me. I've been with Home Shield going on 11 years now and I expect more.
I was gonna ask for a supervisor when I renewed because I was gonna go check some other companies out. Last year cost me a lot of money. But here I am with Home Shield and no one has called. This issue happened earlier this year. I'm still dealing with the contractors and State Farm. I got to get the new carpet put in. That's the last thing. If the plumber or the people that Home Shield contract with are more concerned with taking care of the problem, we wouldn't have any problem. But it's just costing me thousands of dollars on this hot water heater. And it was based on the plumber that Home Shield sent because it was the same company that installed the hot water heater five years ago.
If I took it from 11 years ago when I signed up with Home Shield, dealing with them was really a good deal. But last year, they were A Nightmare on Elm Street. Aside from all the money I've spent and the troubles I've gone through, I relied on the plumbing company that they sent out and kept sending. But the last time, I told Home Shield that I was not dealing with that company anymore. We're still going through this issue a year later trying to get this thing cleaned up. I'd like someone to show up and offer some help. Nobody's called me to say, “We appreciate you being here for 11 years. We're gonna give you a free year,” or something.
Are you still in need of assistance?

I called AHS on Oct, 19,2020 because my was machine will not filling with hot water. It starts hot then goes to cold. 2 days later Sears came out. They had to ordered parts. They said they couldn't come back to fix until Nov.12. I was not happy. My washer is less than 6 inches from my water heater. Then I called AHS back a couple of days later to let them know I had no hot water in the whole house, and they needed to send someone one to see what happened when they were working around the washer/ hot water heater. Said I would have to pay another service charge or they couldn't do anything because they had to send another company out because it was not the washer.
I tried to tell them they were working around water heater it's less than 6 inches away from washer and they were turning things checking the washer but they didn't care. My water heater is only 2 years old. Told them they Shouldn't be charging me again because everything was find before they worked on washer. Took Plumber 4 days to come out said someone must have turned value off around washer it would be very easy to do when working on washer because line ran by washer. I want my service charge back because they should have had someone come for free to see what happened when working on washer, I called Sears and had them come sooner to fix washer, they came and still can't get it working right I also told them to make sure they didn't turn any nobs off to water heater and what had happened last time they were out.
Sears said ahs would call 24-48 to let us know what they will do on washer, 2 days later still have not heard from them. Now Nov 4 and washer still not fixed and no one has called me to let me know what they are doing with washer and the second service charge. In last week and a half I have called 13 times to get a supervisor to help me still not heard from any supervisor. Can't get a high up supervisor to call just regular customer service rep and most of them are all in the Philippines and say they don't has a supervisor that can call me. I never have a problem with ahs when it's time to pay my yearly fee. We are 67 and 71 years old and were having to boil hot water and carry down hall to bathroom to take bathes and to boil water to wash dishes because we had to wait 4 days after I called them to come out and turn on the hot water back on. This is very dangerous and no one should be treated this way.
They told me it didn't come under their guidelines to sent anyone out sooner. This was something they caused after working on our washer and they forced us to pay again and wait to have someone can out to fix. They said they don't have a cooperate phone number to call for help. I need my issues resolved. There are treating us badly and taking advantage of us and our money. Someone needs to look into what they are getting away with. Thank. Darlene and Steve

Being by myself, I have nobody that I can call on and American Home Shield was available for me. They've sent someone out for my washer, my range, my toilets, and my pump in my pool. They've also sent someone out for my air conditioner a few times. It’s always been fast. I’ve had them for three years and I’ve had no problems with them at all. I’ve had a problem with the service from Sears that they used, but that wasn't their fault. Sears kept saying they could get the part for my washer, and they never could. As long as someone’s saying they can fix something, American Home Shield can’t do anything. They have to say, “It can’t be fixed,” and they’ll replace it. I was without a washer for six weeks and American Home Shield ended up replacing it.
American Home Shield's prices got raised a little, but hopefully, it won’t get raised anymore ‘cause I can’t afford it. I’m on Social Security. Plus, every time I use them, I have a copayment to pay. This whole year, I have paid my monthly fee, so I have been paying for the work in advance. I didn’t use them until last week for the pool, but they were there for me. Abnation came out the very next day, and then the guy had the pump and put it in. They were great.
If anybody had a home warranty they would hire, use American Home Shield. They have been there for me when I’ve needed them. There have been times when it was hard to get them on the line to speak to a representative because I had to go through all the buttons on the phone and then I had to wait. However, it hasn’t been hard requesting anything lately.

I am a new client with AHS. They do good work and I love them. When the refrigerator wasn't getting cold, I called the number and told them what my problem was. They took my $75 and gave me the number and who they were giving my request for repairs to. The business that I was working with was closed on every other Saturday and on Sunday so I had to wait. It took probably about a week or so. But it was well worth the wait. They called me back and told me how to prepare the fridge for the repair guy so he could see what was going on. That was helpful.
When the repair guy got there, he seemed to know exactly what was wrong. He said that he had to order the part and it would take three to five days to get it. But whatever he did, he said, "This should keep you for a couple of weeks. It should keep the refrigerator cold until we get the part." I was happy. Once the part came in, it took him another week or so to reschedule because of my schedule and their schedule. I followed up with them and they gave me an appointment. He was there, he had the part and he fixed it. I asked him how does the whole AHS work. Because he was so good, I wanted him to look at the stackable washer and dryer that I have. I asked if I could request him. He was saying that it's sort of random but he told me he didn't do stackables. I'm wondering if American Home Shield randomly selects the vendors.

It's a really great thing to have especially if you don't have a man in the house where nobody can fix it for you. They also do a pretty good job in reaching out to whoever the contractor is. It won't take very long for them to tell me who is the company that’s gonna come and fix whatever I need to get fixed. Recently, I have a toilet that was not flushing properly. It’s clogged, but when you plunge it, it goes in. After a while, it’s clogged again. The second time the plumbing company came, they got a piece of metal inside. They were not messy. I called in for my air conditioner and the initial company American Home Shield sent me was not good. The first contractor came and stated to my husband we definitely had to pay money out of pocket, which I don't think a contractor should say that. They listed these things that were wrong with the air condition unit and I wasn't satisfied with that. They came on September 11th, and I called back last week because I haven't heard anything from the air conditioning company. Based on the information they provided, American Home Shield told me what we would have to pay, but the company never followed up with me. I got this new company, but I didn't like that I had to pay another $100. I feel I shouldn't have had to have done that, but I did.
My AC is not repaired yet because I was doing some traveling, but I was pleased with the second company. They were great. They called me again today, so I have to get back to them. Based on the most recent price I was given, the difference is so astronomical versus what the first one was saying. All in all, I see the growth in American Home Shield. From when they first started coming along, they're much better. They're a little more efficient on the claims and that's a good thing. Also, once I got past the language barrier, it was okay.

The claims process was easy, but I don't think that the customer should have to pay for the job before it's been done. If I were normally hiring a service not through the home warranty company, I wouldn't pay somebody for the service unless they did it. I wouldn't pay them just to come to my house and say, "Well, sorry, I didn't bring the right tool." I had a problem with someone who came out and couldn't fix the issue because they didn't have the right equipment. They told me that, but then the company lied to American Home Shield and told them that my problem was something different. I had to struggle for a week to get American Home Shield to send another contractor who came in and fixed the problem in five minutes.
I've had American Home Shield for several years and my experience depends on the quality of the contractor they send. Sometimes the contractors that they send out are terrible. It's hit or miss. When my garbage disposal started leaking from the bottom, the guy who came to do the service was great. My dishwasher was leaking. I filed the claim online and the website worked. VP Appliance Repair reached out to me within 24 hours to schedule the appointment. And because it was nothing like life threatening, they would get to it, but it might take a little bit of time. The gentleman was very nice. He called to make the appointment and he just needed the model number. He came fully prepared for a couple of different options, and then fixed my dishwasher. This one was pretty good. In the past, American Home Shield hasn't been nearly as good. I’ve been sent a contractor that is rated like 3 stars and it shows. They need more help booking all their vendors and making sure they choose good ones.

I had trouble with two contractors. I've had to convince AHS to send somebody new and once they changed contractors, it was fine. They got things fixed. Then mine is due to renew, and the cost has gotten too high for me. I called and talked to AHS about it. They had raised it to $100 fee. For that much, I probably could’ve gotten a guy out here to fix it without paying a fee. They said that they could do it monthly and I said it doesn’t matter whether it comes out all at once or monthly. They also said they could take some things off but then I might as well just not get it. Every company has to go up on rates and I'm getting way less protection too. Last time, the fee that I paid to send them out, I got to thinking I could’ve just had a plumber come for that amount.

There was a leak in the pump system of my pool. I placed a service request on the American Home Shield website. I've been with the warranty company for years and I've used this claim option. The website works well. It gives a quick response and allows me to put in any description, which helps the service person coming out to know exactly what the problem is. Tropical Pool Service and Renovations was my given contractor and I was given me an expectation that they should contact me within about 24 to 36 hours. I got a quick response from Tropical Pool within that time period.
They were very professional and knew exactly what to do. They took care of the problem in about 40 minutes. When they came on site, they had the parts and stuff to do the repair. Our pool has been functioning well since their service. With this repair, we are given a sense of assurance that everything is running all right outside in the pool system. We are not losing any water and stuff of that nature. That worked out well.

The mechanism that controls the garage door to come up and down was broken. I heard my garage slam down, and it wouldn’t go up and down. This happened on a Saturday and I submitted a claim to AHS and then they sent the contractor’s information and advised that I would be getting a call from him, which I got. Then I called him because I assumed that he would have some type of emergency service. Sometimes they come out 24-hour service, but I didn't hear back from him. He ended up calling on the following Monday. But he was professional and swift. He came out, looked at it, and got it repaired. He was in and out in less than an hour. So I was happy I got it done. He did an outstanding job. My experience with AHS has been great overall. I've been with them since 2005 and every time I've had an issue or a complaint, it’s been resolved.

My heat smelled different. It heated up with smell. So I wanted to get it checked before the winter season came. The contractor came out and they said it was the heat exchanger that had gone out. That was the reason why I had the CO2 that was in the house. It was going on with my HVAC unit. They were real great. They kept me informed and stayed on top of everything. They let me know what was going on and when they were coming. It rained and they were short-staffed when they were supposed to fix it. Then we made arrangement for them to come on that Monday. They came out and did the work. They had the part that they needed and they took care of everything. Right now, the heat is working. So we hope it lasts throughout the winter. When I first purchased my home, I had American Home Shield as part of it. Back then, the service fee was $50. Now, it's $100. But it's worth it in the end. It's a good thing to have.

When we first bought our house that is foreclosure, we had American Home Shield for about three years and it was actually fantastic. We just re-upped with them. Now that we're hitting the 10-year mark, things are gonna start falling apart and so we got the home warranty again. They were on top of everything and were really helpful. I felt like the people they were sending out knew what they were doing. They've replaced our dishwasher, stove, and oven.
Recently, I signed up for a winter check-up for my AC. I got an email of who it was. Fast Response Heating & Cooling called me and scheduled a time. They messaged me before they came out saying they would be there in 20 minutes. The guy was on time and very polite. Then he said he would email me this survey thing and I could fill it out for them. When we got it done, we realized he didn't leave or say anything about what he actually did when he was at our house. He just went down there, took the side off the HVAC unit, had a meter on him, kinda looked at the air filter and stuff, and closed it up and left. Another thing, most of the time, an HVAC company will leave a receipt that said these things were checked out. He didn't leave us with anything like that as well, so we don't have anything to even go back and say, "This is the service that we just received."
There needs to be some consistency with American Home Shield even though they're contracting with local businesses to actually come out and do the service. Their contractors need to make sure that the customers understand what they did every time they go out to do the service, especially if one spouse schedules everything and the other spouse is there in that particular regard, they should have at least a paper to say what they did. I felt like that was a little unusual.
I would still recommend American Home Shield to other people because our long-term experience with them has been good. Then the way they updated their website to make everything very much online and really efficient on getting people in has been good as well. My mom had bought a house at the same time we did and she had a different warranty company. We had an amazing service with our warranty and she didn't, so she switched to American Home Shield.

But the freezer not making ice right now and it has been a few days already. Other than that, I liked the technician a lot.

I have been really having problems with my dryer. Universal Appliance Service came out and everything went very well. They did everything that they could to help me, which I really liked. The tech practically got almost every part he could get for the dryer. Right now, I'm testing the machine. My problem is it dries the first load but after that, it doesn't. I have to dry the load two times. The dryer is back doing that but I'm gonna wait. I hit it on 40 but maybe I needed to put on a higher number. I put it on 50.
I've been with American Home Shield for about five years and they've been great. They're worth it. So far, they honor everything that they said that they honor. There was a time when my refrigerator was messed up and it stopped holding milk. Everything was taken care of. Right now, I'm having a plumbing problem but I don't have the money. I get everything taken out of my account with American Home Shield so I can make sure that if I need something, they can get it right then and there. When we first started out, I had to pay the people the $75 when they came. But now, the home warranty automatically takes it out of your account. I have two sisters and I tried to get one of them to come on board since they just bought a house.

I've had a good experience with American Home Shield. They do a positive job, and working with them is not a problem. They make the appointments and they send people out. It's simple to request for service. However, the first people they sent to check my unit didn't know what they were doing. They even wanted to put Freon in and charge me $800. They broke something on my unit and I didn't have air or heat.
American Home Shield sent out Precision Engineering and they handled the claim fine. They were professional and they did what they had to do. The first company turned something around backwards outside and that's why it wasn't working. Precision Engineering said that whoever messed with my unit turned it to where it wouldn't come on and work.

I kept my distance from him. He had booties on. He's very appreciative of doing the right thing. He did a very good job. American Home Shield seems like a very good service. We got a new home and one of our friends recommended it. She said she had them and they're very helpful. So, we got them. It's nice to have that security that if there's an issue, you have someone that you can work with. Submitting a claim was very easy to do. I just went online and clicked the boxes about what piece of equipment was having the issue and a couple words about what the issue was and submitted the credit card. I had called American Home Shield to open up a ticket to have my heater as well as my air conditioning fixed. There was kind of a language barrier and I don't believe customer service was understanding me completely on what I needed. They said that they would have the contractor, Violin Heating & Air Conditioning, call me and they did. They scheduled everything.
I didn't know American Home Shield was gonna send out the same company for both claims but I was totally okay with that. Violin was there for the air conditioning and they did a great job with whatever they did. The only thing was all they had to do for the heater was to turn the gas on. When I bought the house a few months ago, the gas company turned off the gas and never turned it back on. When it started to get cold outside, our heater wasn't kicking on. Violin didn't do anything else to the heater and I thought that it was a little silly that I got charged $75 twice for them to come out. I asked for a courtesy credit of the $75 for the heating claim. But I never heard back from American Home Shield on whether or not I was getting credited that. Otherwise, I had a good experience. It was nothing crazy or out of the ordinary but American Home Shield was helpful.

I left our previous warranty company that came with our house when we bought it. I had them for two years and they were terrible. It seemed like a cumbersome process because I would do a claim online then I would wait around and wait around for someone to call to make an appointment. Also, I wasn't overly impressed with who they chose. Sometimes they would choose people who didn't even live in my area so they were coming from out of town.
We had had American Home Shield on our other homes so when the contract with the other warranty company ended, I did not choose to renew. I chose American Home Shield and we've had them now for a couple of years. With American Home Shield, I like that when I make a claim, I get an email that says I can wait for the contractor or I can call them directly. I'm not waiting around for someone to call me. With my old provider, I didn't get a phone call from the repair people to schedule an appointment so I had to call back the company and go, "Hey, I don't know who is supposed to be calling me, but no one's called me." It delayed it and delayed it and delayed it and that was a poor system of handling it.
American Home Shield is reasonably priced. We pay less than $50 a month and my co-payment is fair. They let you choose your monthly price and what your co-payment is. Going online and finding what I needed were really easy. They were also quick. I was amazed 'cause I thought it was gonna be at least a week before my dryer gets fixed but it was immediate. The contractor was also great. He was really nice 'cause he followed up. He told us something on the claim that he couldn't do as it wasn't covered. He said, "Here's the order number to order these brackets. Here's how you do it. It's really easy." He talked me a little bit about it and that was above and beyond what he really needed to do.

The repair has been done and so far, so good. However, I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield to anybody. They've been pretty bad. They nickel and dime you on the monthly fee and they raise it without even letting you know. On top of that, they nickel and dime you for a service fee by not fixing the issue properly so that you have to call them back out. I couldn't get ahold of them because of the pandemic. They didn't have as many people answering the phones so the 60-day warranty passed. I had to pay another service fee for the contractor to come out to fix the same issue that they've been out for. I probably could have bought a new fridge for the price I've had people come out and fix the same issue three or four times in the year and a half. Once things slow down, I'll probably review the policy and see if it's worth keeping. I've definitely thought about switching because of the monthly fee and the service fee.

We had a claim with American Home Shield back in June for the same problem and it took a while to get that fixed because they needed a part. I've had good and bad experiences with American Home Shield. They're good. It just depends on the contractor they wind up working with. I had a problem with what I thought was my refrigerator making a lot of rackets. It turns out, once they got out here and pulled it out, it was the waterline that was causing the problem. Sears was out here last week. I'm waiting for Home Shield to close out that transaction and let me call a plumber on the same service call because they weren't able to fix the problem on the first one. They've been slow to close out that action. They would say, the technician probably didn't turn in his paperwork but I haven't heard anything back yet to say, “Well, we didn't fix the problem. Now, we need to call a plumber instead of a refrigerator technician.”
Also, the wait times on the calls were generally really long. If it's basic stuff, like to order a work order online, it is very easy and pretty efficient. But if I have to call them for something, it takes forever to get connected to somebody. As far as the contractors, the most recent one with Sears was Gauss. He was very professional and showed up on time. He just couldn’t fix the problem. It wasn't his fault. He diagnosed it, it was something other than what he works on. Overall, American Home Shield, is a good insurance plan. For my daughter who is young and really doesn't want to incur a big bill on something, it's a good insurance plan. As you get older, it's probably not as cost-efficient. But for young people or people that have other properties they're dealing with, I think it's fine.

There was a leaking water heater and the claims process for it was clear and quite easy. I was told that I would get a call the next day and the Service Mechanical of Tidewater came out very quickly. The problem was identified properly and it was determined that I needed a new hot water heater because it was leaking. I was told that we were gonna get one and it would take them a few days to obtain the new water heater because it had to be ordered by American Home Shield. It was well explained. I have been with American Home Shield for 15 years in multiple properties. When something had to be replaced, it was usually difficult. Twice over those years, we had to replace something and that was denied and then it was approved later on after I fussed about it. But that has been a few years ago and not in this case. My experience was very painless. There was no problem with the service calls and they provided a prompt response.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!
