My AC unit wasn't working and the service provided by the contractor was great. The technician replaced the condenser and topped off my Freon. I would recommend American Home Shield to anyone. I got it from my parents and they recommended it.

American Home Shield saved me lots of money many times. I've had work done, they replaced appliances that went, and are very easy to deal with. I used to call and make an appointment, but now I can go online and file a claim. They forward it. They give me the information and I usually hear from the vendor within 24 hours. With my recent claim, the technician repaired the garage door and tested it. Then he had to do a little bit more, and it was fixed. People should have this warranty if they have a home because they never know. It's $75 for repair and the stuff is being covered.

Ohohna was on time and they were quick to diagnose the issue, but I did have to have them come back for a second visit. It was an odd scenario that they found that they had to correct on the second visit. So I can't really answer that with a lot of surety until I've got some time to go by at this point. I've done my claims online to American Home Shield. We had a dishwasher issue, and I'm currently in an active one right now for a refrigerator. They've met up with what I needed, so I've been happy with it.

My air is working but it's not cooling the way it should. The tech who came out through American Home Shield put on his invoice that the unit would need to be changed because it's making a really loud noise. He was good. I appreciate him. I hadn’t made it to the house yet and he waited on me. It was only like 10 minutes that he had to wait, but he was perfect. He gave me some good info on how to maintain the unit but he also was honest with me about the loud noises it was making.

AHS scheduled somebody right away when I had an appliance issue and Sears was great. The tech already knew what was wrong with the unit before he even got here. He was professional and he didn't mind me watching to see what he was doing because I was curious. It was a wonderful experience and my husband and I couldn't have asked for better. I was leery with AHS at first because I've never had anything for my home but I was extremely impressed.

I love American Home Shield. They have done wonders and the things are taken care of. I recently did an online claim at 1 o'clock in the morning on our air conditioner. The compressor wouldn't come on. They called me on Monday morning and said that I was scheduled for that day. The technician was here and fixed it at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. You can't do any better than that. I recommend them to anybody that wants to know about it. I have three or four friends that are on American Home Shield because of me.

All my properties are insured by Home Shield because their service is good. We have to pay the premium, but I don't have to look for a technician or company that can fix some of the appliances. So, it’s convenient. AC was our first service here in this home. Recently, Delta T HVAC came out and they solved the problem. They were good and on time.

When the air conditioning unit wasn't starting, I logged in to AHS and submitted the claim. They assigned a contractor right away. It was pretty simple and straightforward. When Thermodyne came out, it was a pretty straightforward fix. They just changed out the starter capacitor. But we were without air conditioning for one day and it was a pretty hot day. So it could have been better if there was a way to assign a contractor that could come out that same day.

I like having AHS's service. When something breaks down, I don't have to search for contractors on my own or try to fix it on my own. It's quite useful. My AC upstairs wasn't blowing any air at all. I called AHS and the company they assigned, Vintage Air, had come out here already but I was still having issues. I asked for a different contractor and a guy from Burgos Air came out. He said that the power box had melted so it needed to be changed out. He was very honest and knowledgeable.
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done.

AHS takes entirely too long to get anybody out. It usually takes me calling and raising hell for them to even rush anybody. We get the problem fixed but everything that we've done through them, we prepared for it to take weeks and weeks to get somebody out and get the problem resolved. Also, the selection of technicians seems like they get the bottom of the barrel most of the time.
When we end up looking up whoever they send out, their ratings are garbage and for the most part, it's companies we've never heard of. AHS sends them from two or three hours away, which doesn't make sense because there's a lot of good local companies. And most of them seem like they don't know what they're doing. There's been a lot of times that we had to have a recall because they didn't fix the problem. We rarely get a good technician, like the guy with A-US Air who came out for the AC. But for that claim, we ended up being without air conditioning in Texas for two and a half weeks. The switchboard was out and they had to order the part and when they ordered the part, they didn't have the tool to remove the old part.

One time the heating and cooling people didn't show up. I had to go back and forth with customer service a couple of times. They were siding with the contractor. I said, “I don't know what's happening. No one has come to my house yet.” American Home Shield said, “Well, they did come to your house, but you weren't there.” But no one told me they were coming. “Oh, yeah, they did.” But I had no information. I didn't speak to anybody.
I just had a thing for my garbage disposal. I had two calls within six weeks of each other. I heard from the plumbing company called Blake the next day. Both times, they were there within 24 to 48 hours. They took care of our problem right away. The first guy that came out used a tool. I don't know what he did to unclog it, but he didn't recognize that there was some leaking under there. Not long after, there was a bunch of water underneath my sink. The guy that came the second time said, “I don't know why the first guy didn't notice the leaking. I can tell it’s been leaking for a while.” I ended up paying $75 two times for somebody to come out, but I didn’t call to complain about it. Other than that, it's convenient. I don't have to hunt down a plumber. I pay $75, and for the most part, they put in a new disposal. And I like using the portal.

A technician came out roughly two days after making our claim for our dryer. He did an exceptional job. He assessed the issue, knew exactly what needed to be repaired, and ordered the parts. He scheduled the next follow-up about five days later but the parts ended up coming the next day. That was awesome. American Home Shield sent me an email, where you have a little profile and you can view your appointment there. I went there to let them know that the part came. The technician called the very next day and said that he could come out. But we were unavailable so he came out the following Monday. He repaired the dryer and it has been working well. He followed up, gave us the receipt, let us know what was repaired, and that there was a warranty if there was any problem. It was a great experience. The biggest benefit to having a home warranty is the out-of-pocket costs for repairs. That was a big saver.

I called about something last week. I called early in the morning before 9:00, and the system provided a provider. For a day and a half, they never called to confirm an appointment. So I called American Home Shield and explained my situation. The person right away assigned Interior Air, who right away made room in between appointments, came out, and took care of what had to be taken care of. Since then, I had another issue. I contacted both Interior Air and AHS and it was a recall. They came back for us to take a look at the same thing. There’s something else that came up after they left. And they came today and they were very good and professional. I'm very happy with the way Interior Air operated.
When I bought my house 17 years ago, the seller had the warranty and they transferred it over to me. It was good but you never know what else is coming up in the house. The small things, you get the service charge. It has gone up over the years. Still, with the charge today, it takes away a lot of the anxiety trying to find providers for all these different types of things, that you can trust and will not rip you off when they come. They have already been background checked by AHS. You know they're professionals, they know what they are doing, and that if there's a problem, AHS will jump in because they reflect back on them.
You still take a lot of money out of your pocket yourself for some expensive items. But part of that big cost is shared by AHS. Over the years, I've had to rebuild some major parts. For example, in my HVAC, and I was sticker-shocked at the time. I have a brother who has AHS also and as he said to me, “But when you think about it, you'd be paying twice that amount to get a new one that maybe you don't have the full money at the time or whatever." So it depends. I live alone. And it's worth not having to try and find all the different professionals and know which ones you can trust or don't, and trying to know what is the right price ranges for all of that. It takes the big headache off your mind.
I’ve been their customer for 17 years. I've had some incidences when I was not pleased with AHS. And that may not reflect directly just on the company, but everyone can have an off day and you happened to have that off day, and the person you get in contact with may have the off day, and you have some issues. But it may have just been that I was so upset and the person I spoke to had an off day. I love it when they're very professional. Much more overwhelmingly, at times, they were in the higher end of the scale as far as satisfaction and professionalism, than not. When I eventually buy another house where I’m moving to, I would definitely get AHS.
Frances,
That's exactly what we like to hear. We are happy to know that AHS is beneficial to you. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have great week.

My AC wasn't cooling and I contacted American Home Shield. Doing the claim was pretty easy because I wanted to use the same contractor because I thought they did some pretty good work. I was trying to do it online, but I didn't see the dropdown box that said it. Another lady had talked me through it one time before. But I got frustrated and just called AHS up. The AHS reps were really good on information. The problem happened over the weekend. The lady I spoke with told me the contractor wouldn't be able to come out until Monday. Then, I called the contractor myself and he confirmed that.
The contractor was all around great. The technician kept clean and kept his booties and mask on. He told the reason it wasn't cooling. He was great. Go with American Home Shield. You won't have any issues. I've never had any issues with them. They've been good. I just had a water heater go out one time. I thought it would have paid a little bit more. But they were gonna pay me like $600. Other than that, they've been okay. As a matter of fact, some of my co-workers have asked me about them, and I told them it'd be a good company to go with.

The first time I used American Home Shield was great. The second time, the contractor came out and warrantied. It was in a 30-day period and that was great too. This last one, AHS assigned me to somebody and I said that my AC was out. The contractor said that they could get to it in the next eight days, which was unacceptable. I asked AHS who else they had and it was like pulling teeth. They finally gave me an individual's name from a different company. I called that company and the tech said that he would be out here in the morning at 8:00. I said that was fine. I called the rep back and I asked what I needed to do to change it over to that person. He said that the tech was on hold, which meant they were not accepting it. I said that I already got an appointment and they accepted it. He said that he couldn’t put it in his system because they were on hold and that I could call back the next morning. I said okay.
I cancelled my program and then asked AHS to reinstate the other AC people. They said that I would have to call back. So it took me about four calls to get this thing resolved, which was a little bit much. But the gentleman came out and he was very professional and knew exactly what was going on. The other thing is when I bought my policy, they did not tell me that the policy was only good for $10 allowance toward a refrigerant. That might have worked back in 1950 but now, it's $75. So, I ended up having to come out $100 and then I had to come out of my pocket again with another 150 for the coolant which was low.
When I called the lady back, she said that I was paying $56 a month and I said that it has been since the last September. So, AHS has collected almost 700 bucks so far. She told me that if I wanted unlimited refrigerant, it's $96 a month. I said that I would hang with what I got because if that would have been the case, I would have paid $480 to get $150 charge on my AC unit. She said that she saw that.
The next day, I called back and booked the individual and he was off hold. When he came out, I found out that AHS lets him have maybe one or two calls a day. I said that we changed the last time to him and he said that he got the approval. He called to set the appointment and then, they cancelled the approval. I said that I don't know why they would have done that. And he said he didn’t know either. He said that he charges whatever it is for the AC to be get done. AHS wants to beat him down on his labor charge and his trip charge. But it is what it is. There were only two contractors listed for AHS. One was his and AHS kept trying to rebook the other company. They got a cheaper rate but I'm not interested in cheap. The money I'm paying should be getting the best opportunity at the timeliest basis. Eight weeks to be without AC in the high deserts of Albuquerque is unacceptable.
I'm debating whether or not to stay with American Home Shield. I'm gonna do some research and see if someone else has got a bigger program. I probably got myself, my son, two of my neighbors and one of our good friends in Houston on board. I'm not happy with the way it went for AHS not to disclose because I asked them several times if I’m fully covered if my AC unit goes out and they said I am. I asked if they cover the refrigerant and they said they do. They also said that if my garage door goes out, it's totally covered. I got my notes on a pad where I wrote all this down and to find out that I only had a $10 allowance was a joke. But other than that, the people and the servicing entities do great work and they are very responsive. I am very much satisfied with their work.

My AC unit stopped working toward the end of the summer of 2020. I submitted a claim through American Home Shield (AHS), they sent a contractor, he diagnosed the problem (refrigerant leak), and was able to fix it with parts over 2-3 visits lasting around 2-3 weeks. It was a very satisfactory experience. Until the same unit stopped working at the start of 2021, which was frustrating, but hey? It's about 12 years old. I submitted my new claim on 6/9/21. I was assigned a contractor and nothing happened. I called the contractor after 4-5 days and they had my service request and had just been sitting there waiting for me to call. Weird, but ok, I guess?
They were able to schedule a service visit for 6/23/21. The technician came, diagnosed the problem (refrigerant leak - again, new compressor needed). He said he would submit the claim to AHS and get the parts which were needed, but that there might be a discussion as to whether to pay to upgrade the unit vs. the cost to replace the parts. We could discuss it when AHS responded. After that, I heard nothing from the contractor for a week. They left a voicemail on 6/30/21 saying they were still waiting to hear from AHS to get the go-ahead and that I might have out of pocket costs of $2900 dollars. This was the only pro-active communication I have received from the contractor or AHS since then.
It is now 8/10/21 and I have heard nothing despite trying to follow up with both the contractor and AHS to get any kind of timeline or next steps. I called the contractor back on 7/2/21. "Your claim has been elevated - we should hear back from AHS today or tomorrow." I didn't hear back. I called the contractor on 7/14/21 after hearing nothing - the secretary says "We are waiting on equipment. The technician will call you when the parts get here and explain the additional charges." How long? "Should be by the end of the week." They never called.
I called the contractor 7/23/21 - still waiting on a coil. "It could arrive today." I called the contractor on 7/29/21. No one picks up. Their voicemail box is full. So I called AHS - the contractor is being unresponsive to them as well. AHS said their claims department would be calling me back. They never did. 8/3/21 - I call the contractor - voicemail is full. I call AHS - "The parts are there, but they are waiting on equipment." What does that even mean? "I don't know. It should arrive this week." It's clearly an outsourced call center with no connection to the actual technician. At this point I requested a new contractor - it's been almost two months since my initial claim... with no AC in summer... with three kids in the house. They can't give me a new contractor - they've already ordered the parts.
At this point I just want my AC fixed by them and then to have nothing to do with them again. I called the contractor again on 8/9/21 (voicemail full) and again to AHS. I express my frustration. The woman on the other side promises to keep calling me back and checking on my case. I've heard similar promises along the way from others in their customer support. 8/10/21 - AHS calls back! A first! But there is no news... I request to speak with someone about a refund. A supervisor will call me back (I doubt that).
Over this time, I have learned a bit about the AHS support line. They are outsourced. They can't speak directly to anyone in the AHS claims department (it's all arm's length). They have very little info at all (I had to ask multiple times for any kind of written document or report about my issues and the costs - I got a one page pdf with line item fees and no explanation). They changed their story on which paragraph of my contract would require me to pay extra fees (first it was faulty recalled product clause - I asked which product was faulty? Then they said it's because a modification is required). They tell you they will call back, and all but once they have not.
I have had a contract since May 2020. Since my AC issue in early June 2021, I have paid two months of AHS bills on top of the service fee of $125. I just want my AC fixed, but I would be ok getting the fees I have paid to AHS back and getting an actual contractor who can do the work. I would not recommend this service based on 1) a really bad contractor experience (are they even still in business?), 2) AHS's inability to do anything about a contractor issue, 3) AHS's poor communication of any steps, updates, issues. You are sitting in the dark unless you keep calling, and even then it's only to speak to someone who has very little info and can't do anything to help (which may be more frustrating than hearing nothing, to be honest).
I would have been happy with the AC being fixed or any kind of explanation as to why it was taking so long. It feels like you are ignored. It feels like they don't do what they promise. And it feels worse to have little kids who can't get to sleep because of the heat. I'm frustrated, tired, and I just hope no one else has to go through this with AHS.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I will email you shortly as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

Should you be considering a plan with American Home Shield - don't bother. I have been a paying customer for six years and needed to submit my first claim this July due to a broken AC, in Texas. My usual technician had the part (broken compressor) and could have had it replaced the next day for $4,000. Due to the high price of the part, I submitted my claim through AHS. What a joke. It would take them 4.5 weeks to find the same part and complete the repair. My main complaint with this company is their inability to connect you with anyone who can actually help you. The only department you can reach by phone is customer service. This team reads from a script and doesn't bother to listen to your response (in fact, I had one rep start over when he lost his place...). They also flat out lie about expected timelines.
For each step of the claim/repair process (submit claim > contractor estimate > approval > ordering > repair), the AHS team will tell you 24-48 hrs. They average 4-5 days on each with me. In fact, 6 days after approving the claim, they had yet to even order the part. I appreciate that this occurred during a time of labor and material shortages, but their failure to appropriately set expectations and communicate delays is what drove me over the edge. The house got up to 99 degrees inside at one point, so we couldn't stay there until the repair - meaning more money out of our pocket. You would be better served to put $50 in a savings account each month. I could have had the unit fixed the very next day for less than what I ended up "investing" in AHS. And the real kicker? To cancel, they charged me...Do not trust AHS.

The dishwasher would not complete the cycle. I called American Home Shield and they gave us the Tinker Company at first but we were unable to get in touch with them for a couple of days. Every time we called, we were unsuccessful. I called American Home Shield back so they gave us another person, Appliance Angels & Mechanicals. The tech examined it and he knew what was wrong with it right away. He put in a new motor and now it's working fine. But we were also having issues with the refrigerator and Appliance Angels doesn't fix refrigerators. American Home Shield didn't know for sure when they could get somebody to come and fix the refrigerator. He said it may take two or three weeks before they can find someone in this location. But it didn't take two weeks before they called and I was impressed with that. Tinker came out. The tech said it takes 7 to 10 business days to order the part and we're just waiting to hear from him.

The trouble I was having was the big unit wasn't operating. The techs came out the first time and repaired the fuse. The small unit was frozen over. The repairman turned off the fuse box and said, "Let it thaw out, turn it back on, and it should be okay." A couple of days later, it froze over again. I shut it off and that was when I called in to get a repairman to come out again. The new repairman came out. The first guy did well.
But the second guy came out and saw that I needed some Freon. They gave me four pounds of Freon and everything seems to be working okay. We're just playing it by ear. Hopefully, everything's okay. The house is cool. I haven't seen the big unit come on again, but the repairman told me that as long as the house is at a certain temperature, it wouldn't come on. The little one comes on and off. That's for upstairs. But everything else seems to be fine to my knowledge at this time. They were very professional. My experience this time around with AHS was good. I've had issues in the past with other things. But since I've been here, they responded well, their technicians came out, they did what they were supposed to do and everything went really well.

One of the AC units was blowing hot air. I called American Home Shield and it seems like they're using a third-party source as their customer service. It was tough communicating with their reps. But with AHS, I paid less for the AC repair. Airmax, the contractor, replaced the capacitor and it would have been at least a couple of hundred, but with that one visit, I paid 75.

The freezer was at 20 degrees. It was as cold as we could get it to go, and then it wasn't making ice. It was the compressor refrigerant system that was going out. The tech said it was covered under the KitchenAid warranty. But it was old enough to where the warranty would only cover the parts so we ended up deciding to replace it. AHS is responsive, more often than not. They connect me to a service provider pretty quick. Generally speaking, the service providers are fairly responsive. Seasonally, during the summer, if there's an air conditioning problem, they have delays. But everybody's having delays. Outside of that, it's been a good performance. We recently had a drainage issue in the kitchen sink. It wasn't draining. The tech came out and inspected it. Wound up snaking it out and that resolved the issue.

I tried turning on my heating unit but it wouldn't turn on. It was Sunday afternoon when I got online and loaded up my problem. Within a few minutes, I had a work order. Not long after that, 15 minutes later, I got an email from True Air Solutions saying they received the service request and stated what day they would be coming out. It was the next day or the day after that, which was fine.
When they got there, I told them what the unit was doing and they went up in the attic. The air handler has a drain and it has a sensor. When it senses water, it won't turn on. They found the problem right away and were done in 20 minutes. A tech also checked the unit outside, the compressor, and the pressure. He did everything he was supposed to do. Everything was good. The problem was a clogged up drain line. It was backing up the water, touching that sensor, and hitting it. He cleaned it all out and now the unit works fine.
I’m really happy with True Air and American Home Shield. So far, everybody has been helpful. They responded right away and did what they said they were gonna do. I was provided with good and fast service. The main reason for having a home warranty is to save you a lot of dollars if you have a major problem. My claim was a mild failure. It is my understanding that if the unit had gone out, I would have paid my 125 and American Home Shield would have paid the rest. If they do that, I would really be happy. I recommend both American Home Shield and True Air Solutions.

South Belt was great. They replaced the capacitor in the AC. It normally takes a week minimally for an AC guy to come out but they called the same day. The AC is working perfectly. But I am not happy with AHS. Their customer service is horrible. Language barriers could be part of it. They can also be totally rude after you're on hold for them for hours. As soon as I'm able to I'm gonna try to switch to someone else.
Once they get to you, they immediately transfer you to somewhere else, where you're waiting another 30 or 45 minutes and then they don't listen to you. It's like no one wants to own the problem at hand. They try to find ways to transfer you over. Even when you ask for a supervisor, they say, "Oh, well, the supervisor will call you back in a week." The extended hold times with constant transfers are ridiculous. When you initially call American Home Shield, you're speaking to a call center and they report to somebody. So they should have more sensitivity and customer service training.

With American Home Shield, you can pick all the appliances you want covered and the plans you want but there are certain things that aren't covered that a customer is not clear of until the work has to be done. Also, if you do a claim online, it's really quick, but if you try to call in and claim, it's a hassle. I had a problem with a service one time, and the person on the other end of the line never got back with me. They couldn't understand what I was saying sometimes, and I couldn't understand what they were saying. They swore they would get back to me by the following day, but they didn’t.
I called back, and they forgot they even talked to me. I started all over again. They said they’d call me back with a solution to my problem, but they never called me. There should be some good clear communication and they should get back with the customer. That experience wasn’t too good, but I never had a bad experience before that. Recently, I went upstairs in the attic to find that my AC was leaking. I called American Home Shield then the company that came out and said that it had no leaks in the pans. It was just a drain line that was stopped up, and they had to clear it so the leak would stop. That fixed the problem.

The air conditioner quit working. All kinds of emails came in to know when Three Brothers would come. The tech came out here and checked the freon levels and the capacitors. Nothing was wrong. They went to check the compressor. When they turned it on, it immediately got hot and was frozen up. It would not turn. The unit is 16 years old. They said that American Home Shield authorized they could replace the compressor. The ac needed 12 pounds of freon. At $80 a pound, it would cost $960. The air conditioner being 16 years old with a burned-out compressor, Three Brothers said that they would give it a $2,000 discount from AHS to replace the outside unit and install a new evaporator core in the attic. $5,400 for the replacement unit. So, we ended up paying 52,400.
But we bought AHS since we're on a fixed income, not to have a major expense. To some people, maybe $960 to replace the freon in an old unit may not be, but it's a major expense to us. So, we elected to bite the bullet, scrounge up all the loose coins we had, and went with the discount, they installed the unit and it's working fine. My opinion on AHS has gone from about a 9.5 down to about a 2 because they advertise all the time if they can’t repair it, they will replace it. That thing really needed to be replaced. And that's the same thing the repairman said. But we didn't have that option supposedly.
We got two units. This was a big 4-ton unit. The 2-ton unit out there, the same age, it’s the same Carrier. But it's 16 years old. It may get another one, two or three more years out of. But to me, that one would definitely need to be replaced. But if it was 27 years old, AHS will not replace it. You're stuck with AHS codes. I have a Samsung dishwasher. That is the biggest piece of junk we have ever in our home. This was an $800 from Lowe's deal. And I had the Lowe’s warranty and I had AHS. But still, I guess they will fix it from cradle to grave. The house will burn down before they will replace it. But every time it goes out, we get this code on it. And we're usually out of a dishwasher for three weeks. They've got a sensor in the bottom of this dishwasher. And if it drips one-half of a drop of water, triggers that code, and that whole sensor unit in that panel has to be replaced. And it always takes forever to get anything electronics now.
Other than that, the ac is working beautifully. And it's not like grinding corn out there. It’s humming along, cooling the house very well. Three Brothers did an excellent job and were very informative. They put everything in writing. They even came out a bit earlier than their time they were supposed to be here. We've had them out several times on the same unit.

Being a woman, you get a service like American Home Shield because you have no clue. You want reliable service that people are going to do what they're supposed to do. The first service request that I had was for the dishwasher and the refrigerator. Now, I've learned that if I ever get anything else from American Home Shield, I might as well just get a check.
I'm still not working with a functional refrigerator due to the fact that the refrigerator that I want is out of stock. I was told that once I select the voucher, that even though it doesn't expire, I can't come back and request for a check. If they look into the system, they'll see it's been over a year now, and I'm still having to deal with this situation with the refrigerator. For the dishwasher, it has to be pulled out in order for it to be checked properly. However, I don't know who to call to get my dishwasher pulled out when I'm using American Home Shield that sends me a technician that specialize in fixing dishwashers. But for the AC unit, the technician was pleasant. We had to wait on a part for a long period of time during the heat for almost 30 days but that's been fixed.

It had been a year since we had our unit serviced so I wanted someone to come out and do a routine check to make sure everything was okay. I went online, scheduled service with American Home Shield, and made the payment. A few hours later, a local HVAC contractor called me to set up an appointment to come out. A tech came and checked the unit. He found that some kind of capacitor needed to be replaced. He took care of that for us. This was our second year doing this service. The contractors were really good to contact us and come out.
If you're buying something used, you don't know what you're purchasing. It's always best to have some type of coverage for something like that. The tech from Frog Pro Services helped me with the work on my furnace. I showed him where the furnace was and we didn't have a whole lot of interaction. But they called me afterwards and followed up and make sure I had a good experience. So, the service was very professional and they got the issue resolved. I've also had past repairs through AHS and I use them because sometimes I have trouble trying to find somebody. So I'm assuming they have some kind of vetting process that they go through to make sure they're sending people who are bonded, insured, professional with experience, and certified if they need certifications. So that's half the problem solved. I also have AHS for costs, because you pay the service fee then anything over that, American Home Shield pays. I pay a monthly fee as well but sometimes paying all that is easier and not as big of a blow as having something going and getting hit with a $3,000 bill.

I've had American Home Shield before at another residence, but we didn't use it. Nothing breaks until your warranty’s up, and you decide not to buy it again. However, we just bought a house in a rural area, and the other homeowners paid up the warranty for us, then we took it over. As soon as we get to that house on the weekend, my husband always walks around and checks everything. One time, there was water all over the place in the basement. It was going down the drain, so it didn't flood, but the whole unit had an inch of water in the bottom of it that was coming out all these orifices on the machine. I almost just picked up the phone and started calling somebody. I was like, “Wait, we have a home warranty.”
I was able to do the request online, and they sent me an email right back with who they were going to call and dispatch. I liked that. I had his contact info right away, and I didn’t want to bother the poor guy, but time was of the essence as far as my schedule of being at the residence. I felt bad, but I called him and said, “Hey, we’re here for the weekend. I might need to take off work Monday if you’re not coming here till Monday.” He said, “No, I'll try and get over there tomorrow,” which would have been Saturday. We tried to make it happen, and he wasn't able to do it. I was very fortunate though. He came over on Sunday (not that I expect that out of any trades person), checked it all out, and fixed the issue.
Overall, American Home Shield is great. The guy came on Sunday and accommodated our schedule. The only thing is I know every time you call somebody out, there's a service charge. It was $125 for something I could have ran a stick up there and fixed myself. The unit had gotten clogged up with algae in the discharge line, but I didn’t know.

I like American Home Shield’s service because I don't have the ability or the cash to do something on my own. But it's a bit frustrating because who does the hose belong to? If I got a garbage disposal under my sink that is leaking, and the guy came, fixed it and said, “I don't like this hose. I'm going to tighten it for you,” then two days later, it came completely apart and my dishwasher dumped in the bottom of my cabinet sink, then I have to pay another $100 to get somebody for the dishwasher because the hose doesn't belong to the garbage disposal. It belongs to the dishwasher. I'm waiting for tomorrow for that person to come. But then I don't do hoses. And I have a home warranty. I just paid $200 in a matter of a week.
One tech came out before and he did great. He did exactly what he was supposed to do. He said that the hose was unusual for the dishwasher. He also said he tightened it because it looked like there was water leaking under, which I understand. I can't call him back and tell him to fix something that's not his hose. But he did say that he would put on the work order that it looks like it's also leaking. So I was hoping that AHS would say, “Oh, I see. There's something else that's leaking that might not have been that. What else can we do?”
I was waiting for something to happen. When my son ran the dishwasher and I came out in the morning and water was everywhere, because the hose came completely undone. Now, I can't even use half my sink. But it was working fine before the tech touched it. But then he said it looked like it was leaking. Whether that was true, I don't know because had he not touched it, it still might have already been leaking and it still might have come loose. I was happy with what he did and I didn't want to get him in any type of terrible.
I called and tried to talk to AHS, but they offered me nothing. The woman didn't understand me. I hung up on her because I was so put out by her. The page she flipped to in the telemarketing response was not helping me at all. She didn't have any knowledge of anything other than what she was trying to find the answer to in the book is what it came across as.
She didn't have any way to escalate me or say, “Hey, that sounds unique. Let me get you to a person who has more than a flip script.” I did telemarketing before. There's no way other than them saying, “Hey, for one leak, you shouldn't have to pay two service fees.” Even though it's two different companies, but if I'm a loyal person that yes, they suck up $100. But when I called, I tried to find out if there was a policy because there was a leak under my sink. I paid $100 and there is still a leak under my sink. I didn't like doing another $100 service fee. In an ideal world, somebody would have called me and said, “Hey, he put this in, but there was this annotation. What’s still leaking? What can we do?”
I'm usually very satisfied. But I was a bit let down. Even if they could do nothing for me, but if the repair person made an annotation identifying something else might be the culprit, I would want them to reach out to me, instead of me waiting on hold for three hours to have somebody tell me they can't help me, and for me to just get mad and hang up on them and made me have a bad day. Other than that, the person who came changed it out. He did everything. Wore a little bonnet. And everything was what I expected for someone who went, “Hey! Yup. Garbage disposal. Change it. This looks like it's leaking, I'm going to help you.”

I've been having American Home Shield for over 20 years and the only place where I have been disappointed is the fact that my microwave went out and they have not been able to replace it. They keep giving me an excuse that they don't have a replacement for me. They're willing to give me $300 to replace my microwave, which is a built-in. But to replace the microwave, it’s gonna cost me 600. I want them to give me more money than 300, because first of all, I'm going to have to pay somebody to come and take the microwave out, and then put the new one in, plus buy it.
I want American Home Shield to provide me with a microwave to replace the one that doesn't work or at least repair it. When the tech walked in the door and looked at the microwave, he said he didn't have the part and he couldn't fix it. This has been going on since February and I still don't have a microwave. But otherwise, I've had very good service from American Home Shield. I like the fact that the contractors are coming sooner now than they used to be. Before, I'd have to wait for two weeks for someone to come to do anything sometimes. But now, it's pretty quickly that I get service. Like, if the air conditioning is not working today, the contractor will be here at least by tomorrow.
Some of the contractors are good, and some of them are not so good. The ones that have come in right now are very good, compared to some of the ones they’ve had in the past. When American Home Shield suggests that they're going to send contractors that I don't like or I've had problems with, I ask them to send somebody else. There was one particular company that when they came, they immediately figured out some way to make $500 extra off of you. It's not that they don't do good service, but they always find something else to do for you that you didn't ask for them to do.
We appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your AHS needs. I do apologize for any inconvenience. Have an amazing week.

She's 95, so it’s critical that we have AC all the time and they addressed it the next day. The drain line on our AC unit was plugged, and we've been having a lot of issues with that. The guy, Steven, came out on time, unplugged it, and did a fantastic job. Overall, going through the process with American Home Shield was a bit of hit-and-miss, but AHS handled it well.

American Home Shield’s service is good. When you call them, they right away send somebody. They look for somebody to come and help you with the problems that you're having. Their contractors are quick to respond and come and solve the problem. When we bought the townhome, one of the water lines was leaking water and a plumber came and fixed it.
Whenever the laundry sink was leaking, my husband had put something to stop the water flow, and within a month the sink got really ugly so we bought a sink. All we needed American Home Shield's contractor for was to come in and install it. The plumber said, "We don't want to leave you with a moldy sink, and since you have everything, we’ll install it for you.” American Home Shield didn't want to cover it and we ended up paying the plumber.

American Home Shield is the worst ever. Their customer service is horrible. When you call, you're on hold for days. When you talk to them, it's very hard to understand them because they're not clearly English-speaking people. They have a very thick accent like India. They're friendly, but my needs have zero concern to them. I've been waiting for over a month for my AC to be replaced. They authorized it, ordered it, ordered me a 4 ton, which should have been a 5 ton. But they screwed up and had to reorder it. Their customer service sucks. But Cool Image is amazing. They are the ones giving me updates on what's going on, how American Home Shield screwed up. They also update me on the delivery.

The flap between the doors of the refrigerator was physically broken off, so the contractor ordered a part to replace that. There was a problem with the ice drawer as well. The light also stopped turning on inside. But overall, we've had a positive experience with the contractors that we've dealt with.

The tech was here last Tuesday and he found out my AC needed additional service, which was not covered. It would have been 100% covered if I’d been allowed to upgrade to the new service that American Home Shield just started offering, but I have to wait until renewal time in February. In the meantime, the additional service is going to cost me almost $1,000 more. The service order was put in and the tech's waiting for parts. It was authorized, but I still don't know when they're going to schedule to fix the AC unit. I'm waiting for it to get done, but so far, so good. I was gonna follow up myself and find out, “Okay. What's the status? Do we have a timeline or something?” Overall, American Home Shield is worth the money and I'd recommend people to do it.

With American Home Shield, I don't have to call around and find out who's available. I could just use the app and put in the reason there then a technician is already on site the next day or the same day depending on the call. In my latest claim, one of the coils in the AC had a small crack in it which was causing the Freon to leak out of it. American Home Shield got the people out to look at it and fix the Freon throughout the time ‘til the part was ordered. Those guys were amazing. I recommend them anytime.

My air conditioner quit working and I called the 800 number for American Home Shield. They sent out Patriot Plumbing and Patriot arrived quickly. They diagnosed the problem, ordered the part, which was new condenser coils, and refilled it with coolant. Then I had to wait about three weeks for the part to come in. During the three weeks when I was waiting for the condenser coils to arrive, I did run out of freon because there was a leak. I had no air conditioning for a week but that was certainly not Patriot’s fault in any way. When the part came in, they were able to schedule the installation two days later. They came in and did the install. I was happy with the whole thing but it would be nice if American Home Shield would pay for the coolant.

I had an issue with the washing machine and this claim had poor scheduling as the technician would only come to my area between 11:00 and 2:00 or noon to 4:00, when I needed 8:00 to noon. He came out four or five days after I filed the claim and my husband had to take the day off. Then it took two weeks for the parts to come in. The guy who came back was a different gentleman and he was the nicest repairman I've ever had in my life. He got it up and running. I like that I only pay the 75 bucks with this warranty, for something that would've cost me $200 or $300.

They came out when they said they were going to and I had no issues with them. I go online when submitting claims to American Home Shield and fill out the form. I get a response before I can even pull my laptop back up. AHS offered more. I had friends who had it in the past and they were happy with it, especially with AC issues in Arizona. CNJ Services was sent by AHS for a toilet. It would flush, but later in the day, paper would come back. I fly for a living. I go away for a trip, I come back, and the bowl's completely empty. I called the claim in to AHS. They first sent a different plumber out. When that did not work, they reassigned it to CNJ. They came out the second time. It was the same guy both times. He was professional and was early. The first time he came, he snaked it. The second time, he was just checking for cracks and then he said he'd have to call American Home Shield to see what they suggested from there because he couldn't find why that was happening. American Home Shield is really good about sending someone out. They do a lot of the scheduling by themselves as far as getting things resolved. Luckily, I haven't had too many things I put claims in.

I've used American Home Shield once since I've had it, and we haven't had any issues. The gentleman came out and repaired my dishwasher. It was nice and quick, a simple process and cost-effective because I spent 100 bucks. This was a plumbing matter and it would have cost me more if I didn't have the policy. It worked out. However, I happened to go on the website. There are always negative and positive reviews, but I saw some negative stuff that concerned me. It was for a big ticket appliance that went out, and the reviews said American Home Shield did not get back to them to replace the appliance, or they wanted to replace it with something cheaper. Hopefully, when that situation comes up, I won't have that experience. My only concern moving forward is that that doesn't happen.

Everything to do with not only American Home Shield's customer service, but then the contractors that they actually use, was horrible. A lot of these contractors are either incompetent or bottom-of-the-barrel. One was a plumbing issue with a stoppage, and he fixed the drain in a shower in one bathroom. But we had the same problem, because everything is tied together in that area in our master bath. The guy went in there and said, “Oh, I can't touch this because if I run a snake down there to clear the line, it's gonna break the pipes.” We were like, “What?” He said, “Yeah, yeah. So I'm not gonna do that.” So we call back in to AHS. They do not follow up to let us know what's going on. And then two weeks later, they would be like, “What's going on with this? What we doing?”
We were with American Home Shield at one point, and then we stopped home warranty and then we started back up. At first, it was okay. Everything was fine. But ever since then, the customer service was poor, in my wife and I's eyes, with follow up. And then the fact that when we talk about their contractors, they are incompetent or lazy. They don't want to do the work. They come out, look at stuff, and they want to get their quick bang for the buck.
For instance, the one that I was talking about with plumbing issue, they came out. We had a stoppage. Should be very simple. A stoppage in our showers. They ran the snake down in one of the showers. They cleared that. The other one, they said, “Oh, I don't want to do that, because it's going to break the pipes.” And we were like, “That doesn't make any sense. Well, if you're going to break the pipes, then it's going to be covered.” This is the contractor talking. “No. I have to make sure I get this cleared first through the home warranty company, or then I'm going to be responsible.”
“Okay, fine. Go ahead and do that.” That's where the loss of communication happens, is we don't know what's going to happen then. And this has happened multiple times. There has been no communication after that. We're waiting to know, is the contractor going to contact the insurance company to get the approval to finish up this job? What transpired was, weeks go by, we still have this problem. We can't use our shower. AHS is not calling us. The contractor called us. Nothing's happening.
So as the customer, when we're paying for a service, now we have to go and figure out why this isn't being done or what's going on. And we call AHS, and we get different information, like, “Oh, yeah. They just closed the ticket and they said the job's done.” “No, the job is not done. We still have a stoppage, and they were supposed to contact you to get the approval in case they break a pipe to run a snake down there.” “Well, it's past the timeline now, so now we're gonna have to charge you an additional deductible.” I was like, “The job's not closed.” It's just this battle. Why do I pay for something that is supposed to protect you and supposed to be so simplified, and we have to do all the work on our end? How is that a service to me when I'm doing the service almost? Because I have to do all this follow-up. Nobody's getting back to us, letting us know anything.
Eventually, I told them, “Then you need to send another plumber out, because this is ridiculous.” At the time, they had to charge us for another fee. And I'm not 100% on that, but another plumber came out and said, “Oh yeah. No problem.” It took him longer to get out of his truck and come to the front door than it took him to come in, snake the line, done. The drain is working fine. Where the other guy didn't even try. He just came out and just said, “I think I'm going to break the pipe.”
AHS had a special. $75 to get your AC unit serviced. So they came out. I feel like the majority of the time, it's just like some guy shows up in a truck. There's no signage. It's weird. Like, “Who's this guy?” In the past, there was always some type of communication, most likely from the contractor themselves, calling us to set an appointment. “Hey. Does this time work for you guys?” That's the way it has always been. And that has totally fallen by the wayside. All of a sudden, the AC guy just shows up at your door and says, “Yeah, we're here to do a service,” “Well, we didn't even know you were coming today. How am I prepared for you to come inside the house or do anything?”
This has happened numerous times with that same company. Just some type of communication, either through AHS or the contractor, but the contractor are the ones that come to do the work. You'd rather talk to them, and just give us a heads up that they're coming and seeing if it works with our schedules. The guy that came out said, “Yeah. Everything seems to be working fine. It appears that possibly, you might have a small leak, so we might have to replace a valve and add some Freon. But we're going to have to get that approved through the insurance company.” Then we didn't hear anything. Nothing's going on. Once again, AHS is not calling us. The contractor is not calling us. My wife has to follow up and say, “What happened with this? Last time where you left this, you guys were supposed to follow up and get the approval to come do the insurance for the Freon, and get the approval for that.”
Where's the communication? What's going on? They said, “Oh, well, because this is another call, that was just the $75 service fee to check out your AC. So you're gonna have to pay a deductible of 125 for us to come out and do that job.” So we thought, “Okay, then that's all we have to do.” So, again, we were actually out of the state. We were in Oregon. And they just show up at our house. And the same contractor, same company, showed up at our house without any appointment. They're wasting their time by not communicating with us. And then they tried to say, “Well, we were there. We came to an appointment.” Nobody communicated to us and let us know that anybody was coming out. And if they would have, they would know that we were out of town, so they couldn't complete the project.
So then we finally get them back out here. Same company, a different gentleman. He checked the unit, put his gauges on it, just to do his inspection. Right away, he came up because the unit's on. He was like, “Oh, I can feel the hot air blowing out. I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Let me put my gauges on it. I'll check it.” And he checked it. I was standing right there. I looked. He said, “If it needs Freon, it'll be below these numbers.” It fell in between the numbers. He said, “You're fine. You don't need any Freon. You're fine.” I said, “What? We don't need any Freon? Your company said….” “Oh, I don't think that was our company.” I spoke to my wife, and it is the same company. So we paid an additional $125 that wasn't needed.
I got on the phone with AHS and explained this whole situation to them. And the girl said, “Okay, let me see what I can do. Let me call the contractor and find out, just to verify, and then we can give you your credit back.” So she called the company. And of course, they verify that the exact same company but two different individuals came out. One guy said we needed something. And that's obviously just trying to make money and upcharge. And the second guy from the same company cames out and said, “Your unit’s fine. You don't need anything.” So she got back on. She verified that. But she said, “Well, what we can offer is we can credit you half of your deductible.” “Well, that's unacceptable and that's not going to happen. Obviously, you have people that are either trying to gouge people, upcharge or whatever, just to make more money. That was a whole trip that basically, I shouldn't even have to pay for.”
After I got angry, because she wasn't going to do anything, she said, “I’m sorry. That's all we can offer.” She got off the phone and said, “I'm gonna talk to my manager, blah blah blah,” came back and said, “Yeah, that's all we can offer.” And that's when I got angry. Her tune changed so quickly, and she does, “Okay, well, I'll go ahead and credit you the full amount.” I'm sure their job is to try and keep as much money as possible. And a lot of people will just say, “Okay, that's fine.” But it was a service that wasn't needed, and I had to pay money for something that wasn't needed.
I woke up today and saw the credit finally came through for 125. But this has been just a couple cases. I got so angry I said, “You know what? I know my contract is up with you guys in about 80 something days. And there's a lot of companies out there and at this point, once this contract’s up, I'm done. I'm out. I'll go somewhere else.”And that's when her tune changed. She was like, “Oh, yeah. I'll credit the full amount.” So I will be shopping for another one because it's ridiculous and it shouldn't be like this.

I thought that maybe some of my connections were loose in my fuse box because I know that'll make the lights blink. But he checked that, and they're all pretty tight. He did explain to me, "We use LED lights around the house a lot of times because of I guess the way that they will blink especially when your air conditioner comes on. Anytime there's usually a lot of voltage or what, you'll see the lights blink." If I didn't want to see that, he suggested that I use incandescent lights. I called American Home Shield to have someone look at the water heater in a new residence. There was nobody living in the house because we were doing some remodeling inside but the water was just boiling hot. They had City Plumbing come and look at it. The tech put a new thermostat in but the issue continued. We had the heater on vacation mode and the water shouldn't get hot. I had the tech come back out and he thought that I needed to resolve it by installing a new water heater. I agreed but then, there were a lot of upgrades needed to make it up to the standards of the city. I said okay and we were going ahead with that. When American Home Shield called, they told me that they had okayed the new water heater but the upgrades that would have to be done to put the water heater in was 900 and some dollars, which is almost twice as much as the water heater cost. At that point, I decided to get a second opinion.
We had a gentleman come out and he found nothing wrong with the water heater. He said that we're not using any water and the pilot is on all the time, which is causing the water to be hot when it's on vacation mode. He said to wait until we move into the house and start using the water to see how it operates. I'm letting it go until I moved in. I haven't ruled out putting a new unit in but I may not go through American Home Shield because it's going to cost me $100 to call them to have somebody come out and no doubt it would be City. And I'm not paying them 900 and some extra dollars to put the water heater in. I think that's excessive. Other than that, they were very prompt in getting somebody out when I called.

We bought this house about five years ago and the hot water heater that was in it was breaking the internal circuit breaker three times within five days. I did the claim online with American Home Shield and I got a quick response both on the phone and the technician coming to the house. The young man listened to what I told him. He immediately knew what to take apart and found the problem. Then, a short time later, he came back with a replacement part. I have good experience with technicians generally but he was quite good. He told me what had gone on. There were two panels that he opened up and he showed me the settings for them.
It also impressed me that he came in masked and for the whole time, he did that. When he came back and completed the repair, I thanked him for wearing his mask and that we are vaccinated completely in here, but I appreciate it. He said he was too but most people appreciate wearing a mask when he comes in. So, he was outstanding. I have replaced most of the major appliances in the house. The water heater looks quite retro but right now, it's working as well as it ever has. I have recommended AHS in the past. Every time I have put in a claim or an inquiry, they have responded in the way you would want although sometimes not as fast as the last guy.

I requested a repair of a pool booster pump and American Home Shield sent someone out. He ended up breaking something in the pump when he was taking it apart. There was a chip in the thing and that wouldn't have happened unless someone had opened it up. He was the only person that opened it up. AHS refused to pay for it and said that that was not normal wear and tear. That was not appropriate. I didn't think that was handled correctly.
We had two different people they sent out from two different companies. I had hired one to come look at it to try to get it fixed or to tell me exactly what was wrong because what they said was wrong didn't make sense. They originally told me it wasn't working because it was full of leaves and it was clogged. I asked, “Why can't you just unclog it then if that's the case?” There was no response to that. The second diagnosis was different from that in that it was an electrical issue. Then it was something else. I'm not a pool person. I don't know what's wrong or how they fix it but it should have been covered.
In May, I sold that particular property in Atlanta. I have two policies with AHS, one is for my property in Myrtle Beach, and one was for my home in Atlanta. I called and told them on June 1st that I had sold the house May 26th and needed to discontinue the policy. They told me I should recommend it to the buyer. I looked at my statement, and I've been billed for it for May, June, July, and August. I'm not very happy about that. It’s 100 and something dollars a month, when they were notified right after the sale. They have it in their records that I called but I got billed anyway for the next three months. I called my credit card company and they said they would reverse those charges. I spoke with AHS and they said they'd give me a credit back on it. All of this is overlapping now and I spent so much time on the phone between the repairs, the waiting for the repair people, and the billing. It's been very time-consuming.
When everything worked well, the service has been very nice. But as an example, with the second policy I have for the property here in Myrtle Beach, I'm paying a premium of $85 a month and it's a very small condo, 1,100 square feet. That seems rather high for how small this place is. I had an issue that the toilet in the master bath kept running, so they sent a plumber out. He said the part inside the tank needed replacing. He did that immediately and everything was great. But the toilet wouldn't stop flushing, so he had to come back the next day. He supposedly fixed that then left. Then it wouldn't flush at all so he just left for the fourth time this morning. I've had four mornings of getting up early for him to come in and fix the same toilet. That’s not wonderful.

We've been a customer with AHS for 9 years (the first year was covered by the seller we purchased our home from) and continued to renew our contract because we knew that eventually replacing our AC unit would be expensive without a home warranty. Well, on 8/2/21 our AC went out and our temperatures were going to be around 113 degrees (we're in Phoenix, AZ) all week and we have a 2.5 year old baby.
I used AHS's phone system to submit a service request and was notified on 8/3/21 that an AHS approved AC vendor would not be able to service the unit until some time on 8/5/21. Of course, the temperature was too hot to wait 2 days, so I called back into AHS and spoke with a representative. Initially, AHS was helpful. I explained our heat wave issue to a phone rep and he quickly worked to allow me to contact a licensed and bonded vendor of my choice to service the AC unit.
The vendor I chose arrived in the early morning on 8/4/21 and after several attempts to bring the unit back online, diagnosed that the AC unit needed replacement. The vendor contacted AHS while still at my house and explained that the AC unit required replacement. AHS then requested that the vendor provide some additional information. The owner of the AC Company I used then stepped in to continue communicating with AHS and was told by AHS to provide a quote to complete the purchase and installation of a new unit. AHS explained to the owner of the AC company that the quote would be reviewed and AHS would then contact the vendor to perform the removal of the old unit and installation of a new unit.
This initial discussion between AHS and the vendor I selected began on 8/4/21 so I began to contact AHS on 8/4/21 to ensure that the vendor had provided all the required information right away. AHS claims that they did not receive all the required information from the vendor until 8/5/21, so I continued to call to find out how quickly a decision could be made for AHS to cover the cost of the replacement unit. I called and called back into their support number. Each time I was told and have continued to be told that AHS Authorization Department is now reviewing the open request and will take up to 48 hours to return with a decision.
It is now 8/9/21 and AHS support line continues to tell me that the Authorization Department is still reviewing the open ticket to replace the AC unit. The last rep I spoke with on 8/9/21 said that AHS is within the 48 hour decision timeframe because the weekend doesn't count as a business day. Each rep I speak with (AHS call center reps I have spoken with are in the: Philippines, Columbia, Bahamas) tells me I need to continue to wait for a decision from the Authorization Dept. The reps all claim they can't transfer me to the Authorization Dept. As of 8/9/21 I am still without air conditioning and our temperatures in Phoenix, AZ will again be over 100 degrees and we still have a 2.5 year old baby.
I will continue to call AHS to demand resolution to this issue. I have paid around $600 per year for 8 years along with the $75 service calls to have minor issues resolved, like a garbage disposal that recently failed and was replaced by an AHS approved vendor. The contract we purchased with AHS states that not only is a garbage disposal covered, but the air conditioning unit is covered. Eventually, every AC unit will need replacement. AHS clearly doesn't want to pay for the contractually agreed upon replacement cost for a new AC unit because it is one of the most expensive items to pay for replacing, but it must be done; for the legal contractual agreement and for the dangerously hot house we are currently living in with a 2.5 year old.
It is obscenely cruel of AHS to drag this process on without fulfilling their legal obligation to pay for the replacement of an AC unit that can't be fixed. AHS's service reps don’t want to offer or are unable to offer resolution and the lack of transparency in this process has driven me to write this review and recommend you stay away from AHS and set aside money to cover replacement costs for fixes to your home appliances and electrical and plumbing issues.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together.

I paid $75 for them to come out and to tell me exactly what I told them the problem was. But American Home Shield wouldn’t cover anything. They said they will not pay anything because it's an existing problem. So it seems to me like American Home Shield is a scam. I paid over $600 and they will not pay a penny. I am very dissatisfied. I tried to reach out to them to see if they would pay a little bit, but I couldn't get ahold of anybody. It just said, “Leave a message.” Never returned my call.

The garbage disposal wasn't working. When the contractor did it back in May, they came out. We had moved everything out from under the cabinet. He moved his hands and wriggled it a bit. He said, "Oh, it was just a bit frozen up." He turned it on and it ran. He said, "You just got to make sure you run it." We use the disposal, but we don't use it that often. But he was here five minutes, got it to working. It worked a couple of times, and then it did the same thing. When I turned it on, it kept popping the power and you could smell the heat coming from it. And it was doing the same exact thing it was doing before. And I had put the stuff in there that time, put the disposal cleaner in there, and that's when it happened. We went through the American Home Shield the first time. So we went back through them. And they said that it was past the 30 days so we had to make a new claim.
Another company came out the other day. We were quite pleased with them. They were fantastic. He came right out when he was supposed to and replaced the disposal. It's working fine. Based on this experience, it was great. Some of the ones we had before not so. But this one was great. Even when they came out and fixed the dishwasher last year, the guy did a great job. We only used AHS guys three times. And the second one was the only time with the disposal that we had an issue. Everything was great.

The bottom of my disposal was starting to leak pretty bad. Right away, AHS found a plumber who would come out and do the job. In two days, I got a call saying that they scheduled it. The tech worked very well. Within an hour, he had replaced my disposal. The claim was very well handled. It was pretty simple to get through to AHS. I was really pleased.
I've also had AHS out for a refrigerator and dishwasher. I was disappointed when I had the refrigerator claim. It was an old refrigerator that quit working. The motor had gone out. But doggone it, they found a motor to take care of it. It's still working so they did well. With both my refrigerator and dishwasher, they handled my claim very well too and I was pleased with how those ended up. AHS just raised the price on me but that I expected.

I've used American Home Shield's website a couple times, and so far, it's been user-friendly. I've got good experience. When there was a damper in the ductwork that was not working and we couldn't force the air to go where it needed to go, I used the website. I was told that somebody would be notifying me and then Steinmetz called. They were professional. They were prompt when they initially came, but from their initial visit, it took three weeks to get it finished because they were waiting on parts. That might not have been their fault though. The repair guy did a proper fix. The damper’s easy to move and he labeled it. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I had two appliances break down in the same week. It took a while because of the parts for the washing machine but the refrigerator was a quick fix. The contractor came out and they were knowledgeable. They had seen it before, knew what the fix was exactly and came back and installed it. The washer is now repaired too as of last Thursday. Having the warranty has been a great benefit. When the refrigerator was under warranty with Best Buy where I purchased it, they fixed it once and it was $654. It was charged to the warranty but I paid my $100 deductible and they fixed more than what they fixed last time. So, I have no doubt that it would have been more than $655, probably three times that amount. Having the video conferencing for older people might not be easy but that was something that we were able to do as far as getting American Home Shield the information. So, that might have speeded things up.

I was charged $100 and it was simply to get a filter fixed. American Home Shield could lower the amount being paid. Or if the repair is less than $100, they take the difference. My filter cost four bucks. They could refund me $96 or however much it costs to pay for the person to come out there. It seems like for something small, $100 is in excess. Other than that, the contractor showed me how to change my own filter, what the problem was exactly, and without minimal hassle, got my aircon up and running. They showed me exactly what to do, so I did it.

The instant hot water was not working. Then the garbage disposal wasn't working. But apparently, it was just clogged. So, the techs fixed the garbage disposal. But then they said that the hot water was out of their realm. They said that it either needed a new filter or a new fixture. Then my landlord looked up under the warranty and said they should have fixed it. He was kind of annoyed that they didn't do anything about that. When they did the invoice, all they wrote up was about the clogged garbage disposal. They didn't mention anything about the instant hot water issue.

The claim that was just completed was good. It was a simple cleaning out of the drain. But the one that we did in November was not good. They received improper documentation and I ended up having to pay $15,500 on my own. The contractor they sent out when my kitchen sink wasn't draining came here to snake the line. They said that it was clear. I turned on the sink after the guy left and it wasn't clear. So another technician was sent out the following week and he attempted to snake it again. He said he put over 100 feet of the line in and now we need a camera. AHS said they didn't want to pay for the camera. But it wouldn't be covered anyway because it was over 100 feet.
Another company came because I went three weeks without a kitchen sink and they did the camera, and the issue was only 15 feet away. But American Home Shield is not reimbursing me. I don't know if they didn't receive the facts and I don’t know what's going on. They are horrible as far as getting a supervisor to call back, which I requested during that time. I still have no one following up and they ditched me with the bill. I even had an issue where I had to replace the whole conditioner, and that took a long process as well. I completely understood because everything needs an approval but overall, the experience was bad.

They wanted to give me a Whirlpool microwave and a GE dishwasher. But I would like to get mine to match. I don't want the Lowe's card and I wonder why they can't just send me a check for the dishwasher. Also their people aren't installing the microwave so then I have to pay somebody to do the installation. I'm satisfied with AHS replacing the microwave and the dishwasher. I've had American Home Shield for a long time. The first couple of times I had to use them, everything went smooth. When I used them this time, I got in touch with them at the end of July. They finally sent somebody to my house August the 2nd. He told me that the washing machine could not be fixed and the dryer should not be fixed. He called me back and said they would fix a dryer. I said, "Yeah, but you told me it should not be fixed." He said, "I just got to do what they say." So, they fixed the dryer. It was the third time they fixed it for the same thing and the same thing kept on breaking. But for some reason, they wouldn't replace it. But if they want to keep coming back and spending money, that's on them. So, I got the dryer fixed.
With the washing machine, they never let me know anything. He told me his recommendation, but he works for them and they never called me back. A week went by and I finally called them up. I asked what was going on. They said hey would give me a new washer. I said, "Well, why do I have to call you? Why haven't you called me?" They couldn't give an answer. I said, "You guys take my money every month. Every day, on the same day, every month. You've never had to wait for your money. But when it's time for me to come back and get something from you, I gotta call you. I'm getting all the information, which doesn't make sense to me." They forgot I'm the customer. So, after all that was said and done, they said they would call me back. They would send me an email letting me know what to do, which I didn't understand either while I had them on the telephone.
It took me four days to get them on the phone. Every time I did, I waited on the excess of 20-plus minutes on hold. When I got somebody on hold, I asked for the boss because I was getting ticked off. They finally told me, "Oh, we're gonna send you an email. You can either go buy your own and we'll send you a check," which takes about four weeks, which I didn't understand that one either. They said, "Or we'll let you know what you can buy." And it takes three weeks for delivery and they blamed it on the COVID. I'm living in the United States too. I'm living in this world. I understand the COVID. I don't understand why it takes three weeks to get a washing machine, but it is what it is.
I picked out the one I wanted, a week went by, I called them up and asked when it would come. "Oh, you got to schedule it." "Okay, well, nobody told me this." I went back online, I scheduled when I wanted it. It took three weeks to get it. So, I set up the delivery. It was supposed to come yesterday. They never showed, no call.
I called them today, waited on the phone 27 minutes, they finally got back and said it would be at my house between 2:00 and 6:00. I'm glad that somebody told me. I got to take off of work, which I did. I'm here at work, the guy called me up a half-hour ago and said he was on his way to drop it off. I said he can't. He asked, "What do you mean?" I said, "I'm not going to be home till 2:00. I scheduled for 2:00 to 6:00. I won't be home till 2:00." "Well, we're ready now." I said, "I don't know what to tell you. I can't get off my job. I took off yesterday and you guys never showed up." They couldn't explain to me why they never showed up.
I said to the guy, "Either you got to drop it off or you're not. You are taking the other one out and putting this one, ain'tcha?" He said they don't do that, then I told him to not even bring it. I wouldn't take the old one out of my basement and put the new one in. That's their job. I paid for it. The guy said, "Hold on," then came back and said, "Yeah, we're gonna take the other one out and put this one in." I asked if they would hook it up and he said, "Yeah, I guess we'll have to." He then said, "You can't get there no earlier than 2:00?" I said I couldn't. I took off yesterday but they never showed up. Hopefully today, they show up at 2:00. Up until this one, the other two times I had to use AHS, I never had a problem. They were great. It seemed like in the last couple of years, it went downhill.

But most of the time, I don't feel there's a benefit to having AHS. They're kind of a pain, so I'm not super-happy. I've got a 21-year-old air conditioner and they are refusing to do anything with it until it completely breaks. My bill is $400 during the summertime, but it seems that it doesn't matter to them. I had the techs come out and inspect it. Three of the five things failed and they still said they were just going to replace those other things. I pay $1,000-a-year for this coverage, yet they're not willing to do something to help make my house a little more energy-efficient. It's not like it's a 5 or a 10-year-old unit. It's 21 years old.

The AC unit didn't seem like it was cooling properly. I have two units at the house and both units are identical. So, I noticed that one was running differently than the other unit. It was intermittently cooling. So then, I talked to the technician and I let him know when he came to the property. He said he'd go up and check. He came down not too long after and said that everything looked good but more than likely, some type of part is eventually going to go out. But it's still working and there's really no reason to replace it. So, I thanked him for looking at it and I didn't think anything of it.
A couple days later, I walked out to my house and I noticed that the air conditioner was still working but a bunch of water was pouring over the air conditioning unit onto my roof. I called back and I said, “Hey, I don't know what's going on. But now, this is happening.” That was when they sent somebody out and they addressed the problem. The unit has been working, so I feel like they did fix the problems that I was having with it.
As far as American Home Shield, I do recommend them. As a realtor, they're who I trust because I use them as well. But changes need to be made on the frontline. The first gentleman I spoke with wasn't very good at his job. He was very rude. I could hear chicken in the background. When I have that kind of experience, I let my clients know about it too. I say, “Hey, guys, heads up. This is a great trustworthy company. But the service operators that you talk to, sometimes, they might not be too good and you're gonna have to be persistent, but they will do a good job.” AHS delivered for me for years ever since I switched over to American Home Shield from First American. American Home Shield has been responsive and very timely. We had a different company when we were in Texas and American Home Shield is a little bit more expensive, but everything seems to be a little bit more expensive up here. Also, American Home Shield seems to cover more than they did, so it offsets the cost. When there was a screw loose in the lid of the washing machine, the Appliance Tech technician tightened it. He was very professional and on time.
We just had our AC service yesterday. The first company that American Home Shield sent only serviced our area from 7:00 to 11:00 in the morning. I sleep during the day and at night with my disease, so that didn't work. American Home Shield sent another company who never reached out to me. After five days, I called them. The technician was a little creepy. He didn't show up wearing a mask even though I specified that I needed him to wear a mask since I'm terminally ill. I offered him a mask, and he refused it. He said he had one in his vehicle. He went out, got it and came back. He's a little off and roamed around our house, which we didn't like. I didn't give him permission to do that. It seemed like he was scoping the place out. He could probably justify that he was searching for registers to see if error was coming out, but he had no need to be going through our house. It was inappropriate, so we won't use that company again if we have problems. But he fixed the AC, so we were fine with that.

The AC went out and it was on a Monday. American Home Shield said they couldn't get anybody until Thursday. I told them that I could handle it. It was 110 degrees out so, I called them back and they said they would somebody else. I called them back on Tuesday morning and they said they would have somebody out between 9:00 and 11:00. I said that it was 8:10 right now. At 9:05, the phone rings. I'm 22 minutes out. Cody, the repair guy, came in, took tons of stuff apart and fixed the AC. It was fantastic.
Cody said he was gonna change this and that, and that we couldn’t tell what's wrong with it unless he replaces the part because there was no power going to it. So, he did that and he replaced something else and he said it was between the motor and something else. He put the new circuit breaker in and it wasn’t working. He said it had something to do with the motor but he couldn't tell at the time because you need power to it. So, he went out to his truck and he said he would try this thing. It looked like a battery and he put it and “roooot,” it goes. He was a nice guy.
This is the second time I put in a claim to AHS. The first time was a couple of years ago and it was something about the water. Somebody was supposed to come out and we set the whole appointment over the next day, and they were no-show. So, I called them and asked what was going on. They said they made a mistake. They had me on the schedule but they missed me. So, we set it up for the next day and it was still a no-show. American Home Shield billed me for the $100 and they billed me for another 100. I said that I shouldn’t be responsible. I waited almost two days and they should let the contractor pay for the first one. I got a nice letter back from AHS that said I only owe for the first one and the second one is on them because I waited that long.

The dishwasher was not receiving power. I logged in through my account and I let American Home Shield know that I had problems with an appliance. The following day, Colorado Residential Services called me and scheduled an appointment. I did that about a week ago on a Sunday night. Then on a Monday, they called and first thing Tuesday morning, the tech was here. The dishwasher needed to be reset. When the tech was able to go into the control board and then he adjusted some wires and made sure the connections were solid and ran through a cycle, everything was fine. I’ve used it four times since.
The company, Colorado, came out once before when I had an issue with my dryer. It just needed to be reset, too. I'm in a little bit older house. For a couple of times, something just needed to be reset about the board. The thing is that only an approved appliance person is gonna know the sequence of codes, to press certain buttons at a certain time and reset those boards without necessarily replacing them. Both times, the techs came exactly when they said. They were very knowledgeable and professional young men and cautious as far as COVID goes. I couldn't ask for better on both of them. So, if something happened that I had another appliance go down, I'm hoping that that's the company that shows up.
Overall, American Home Shield has been prompt, professional and so far, they are reliable in a sense that they have covered the items that they said that they cover. We also had an issue with a washer within the first year of getting American Home Shield back in 2017. There were multiple trips on that because there were multiple portions of that washer that have failed. I was very satisfied with the fact that they worked it to make sure everything was complete. I only had to pay the $75 service call thing. At that point, they had already helped me above and beyond the very beginning.

I had a plumbing claim and I went almost a month without having water in my kitchen. When I first called AHS to make my claim, I asked them to look at my sink and my toilet. The water in my toilet was running after you flushed it and I thought somebody needed to come look at it. They gave me an appointment and the young man came out. He looked at the toilet and did what he had to do to fix it. Then he told me that he was done. But I told him that my sink should be on that work order, too because I explained to American Home Shield that I was having a problem with my plumbing in my kitchen and my bathroom. He said that he couldn't look at it and that I had to call and make another appointment.
So, I ended up having to pay my regular fee of $100, but I had to pay another $100 in order to get a plumber back out here to look at my sink. AHS sent somebody out here who was a higher-up in the company and he guaranteed me that when my part came back, somebody was going to call me and make an appointment. But I had to always end up calling them asking for an appointment. I finally got an appointment and the plumbers who came out were really nice, except for the first one I had. I don't know what was wrong with him but they told me they ended up having to fire him. The work is done now, but this went on for almost three weeks.
My contract with AHS is up in September but I'm not going to wait until September. I'm thinking about calling and canceling my contract with them because my last claim was just a mess and the things that were going on were ridiculous. They charged me a total of $200 and I don't even think the part that they put on my sink cost $200. I also got upset with myself because that was why I left American Home Shield before. I kept getting these ditzy people coming to my house who were supposed to be doing stuff.

Having AHS as a warranty provider is comforting. I had two claims recently -- one was for my stove and the other for the dryer. For the dryer, the contractor will be coming back out to replace a part on it and for the stove, AHS is going to replace it. I've ordered it. But I was kind of confused because when they sent a list to look at, there were things that had really big prices and they gave the price the same as what my item was valued at. And they asked for my debit card. I didn't know if I would pay the difference of what was available to me. It took a while for them to explain that part to me but once I understood that, the process was fairly easy. They were even able to give me the color of the stove that I wanted. Also, for a $100 deductible, you really can't beat it. A stove can cost anywhere between $300 and well into the thousands.

My washer was clicking and on my dryer, the heating element went out. The guy that came to fix it said it was the rinsing motor that went bad on it. Also, the buttons on my microwave wouldn't work. Sometimes, they would, but a lot of times, they wouldn't. I had to keep unplugging it to get it to restart. The claims process with AHS is wonderful. I have to leave a deposit, but there are no big fees. It gives me peace of mind knowing that I have coverage on my appliances.
The only negative thing was when my dishwasher went out one time, and they asked the part number and about the side buttons. I gave them all that information, and when they brought a washer in to replace it, the hoses were different on it. The one I had to the house had two hoses on the back, but the one they brought over had one hose. So, they couldn't replace it, and they kind of blamed me for it. They said I had to call a plumber and tear the thing out. They gave me like a payout because they said I should have known but I was like, "That's why I have you guys. That's why I have you to service my equipment 'cause I don't know anything about it." Other than that, everything else is positive.

The icemaker was not making ice, and it was leaking water. The first time a tech came in, he replaced like a control board. The guy said that there was ice water coming out of the bottom of the refrigerator. So, I went over and cleaned it out. In the meantime, I kept throwing water out. Because they said that they were gonna order a part, I turned off the icemaker. They came in and replaced the part. Then all of a sudden, there was still water leaking. So, they came in and said that the reason the water was leaking was because one of the lines was plugged. They took care of that. The icemaker in the meantime would work off and on. It didn't work after they fixed it. I called up, made an appointment and it started working again. So, I called up and canceled the appointment.
Then all of a sudden, it would work and then it wouldn't work. I called back again. When they came out here, it wasn't working at all. So, they replaced the icemaker. After they replaced the ice maker, nothing happened. It wasn't making any ice. So, I called AHS up and I said, "Can you guys send another person out here? Because they haven't been able to fix the problem with the icemaker.”
A guy came in yesterday. He said he googled some stuff about the refrigerator and when he came in here, there were some wires that were wrapped. He started cutting around right there, and he noticed there were some wires that were loose. He went over there and he started going up and he noticed that there were about three wires that were not attached anymore. It looked like they were cut or broke off. He started to put it all together and he wraps it all up. He jump-started the icemaker, and it looked like it was gonna work. I thought that was the problem. Then all of a sudden, it stopped working.
He said that he was not really sure what he could do because he already checked everything that could be checked on it, and everything was okay. Now, we've had the refrigerator for about seven years now. He said that it's probably the door itself. He said that the door itself is like $1,000. He's done everything. He's a really super nice guy. We'd sit there and chat while he was working. It’s just that it's gonna be the fifth time he's been out here when he replaces the door.
I've used AHS once before. When I called and made the claim, I was surprised on how fast I got a response. Then a guy came out here and fixed the problem. This time was one of the best experiences I've ever had. I've worked in the car business for 30 years and I've seen warranty companies give you the runaround. This is probably one of the smoothest experiences I have ever seen. With all the reviews I read, I was getting a little worried about it and I was talking to the associate from American Home Shield. I was pissed off and I wanted to like explode on somebody, but she was so sweet that I couldn't do it. She was very helpful. She responded very well. Every time I talk to somebody when we get together, I say, "Hey, I had a good experience with them. I would look into it." My daughter has AHS because I told her about it.

We had a faucet that needed to be repaired and that's been taken care of. We also had a problem with our HVAC system. We've had many calls on it. This most recent time, the gentleman who serviced it found that it was the second unit, not the first one that he fixed last year, that was having a problem. It was iced up, and so was the air receiver in the basement. The basement is a crawlspace under the house, so we didn’t see that. The tech resolved the problem and the air conditioning is working fine.
This warranty saves us a great deal of money. Some of American Home Shield's service people are less than desirable, but we're finding and weeding them out. When we ask for a specific service person, they send that person. AHS gets people out pretty quickly and gets things done in a very professional manner. We had a stove that went bad and that took a little longer to resolve. But that was because the stove was old and it was a size that was no longer being made in the United States. We had to order the stove through Appliance Connection from Italy to get the right size. AHS paid $3,000 out of the 4,000 something for the stove. So that was pretty decent, plus all the service calls, of course.

I'd like to get my refrigerator fixed. Vate did everything that they could but they don't work on sealed systems. So, they changed out a lot of different parts in my refrigerator, it's still not working. The first company that American Home Shield sent out said they did some stuff. But we haven't had a refrigerator for a month now. So, it's getting pretty frustrating.
We've been customers of AHS on two different plans since we built this house in 2005. We left briefly last year and went to another company and we came back. But ever since AHS went overseas, it's been ridiculous. It's hard to get the people to understand. They lie when they say they're gonna get a supervisor. Whenever I ask to get it escalated to speak to a supervisor, I get the same thing, "My supervisor is in a meeting and they will call you back." I never get a call back. I was waiting for a call yesterday when they said someone will call me back in an hour. I've been waiting all day for someone to call me back and still nothing.
We never speak to anyone that speaks English anymore. It used to be it would always be the call center was here. It's not here anymore and it's ridiculous. We're still waiting. We had a water heater go out on September the 6th of last year. The first people that they got us in contact with never showed up. So, the next people that they got us in contact with, when they set up the appointment, they said, "They can be there on Friday." But, when I talked to the people, they would say, "That's incorrect. We don't have an opening until a week from now."
We requested that we get our own person and the people that we called was a company that American Home Shield used to send out to our house. They're called B&L Plumbing. They came out one day and charged me $125 to do the assessment. They didn't have the tank with them, so they had to come back the next day. So, that was another $1,530, which we still haven't been reimbursed for.
We sent over stuff last year, we were on hold for a long time. Then, I got sick and I just had my leg amputated. I've been sick since October, went through a whole bunch of stuff all this year. So, I'm just helping up to jump back on it. Within the last two weeks, I've even talked to someone and sent over all the paperwork. Still haven't heard anything from anyone. That's $1,655 that came out of our pocket that we haven't gotten reimbursed for that they said they would.

Recently, the tech for my AC claim said that the capacitor had blown. He fixed it within ten minutes. However, I'm going to be changing warranties because it seems like AHS does not cover my issue. My garage is still messed up. I know other warranty providers who cover the garage door and everything. When I first got my AHS warranty, I was told that the cable there was covered by a couple of people, and then when I went to put the claim in, they said it wasn't. So I ended up paying out of pocket. Also, the people that fixed it did not actually fix the whole doors off now.
Usually, AHS fixes things. But my issue is that when they sent out a guy a couple of years ago and that time, I had to get a new refrigerator because there was water leaking out of it, the whole door was off and when it was done it put a hole in my floor. AHS said that they couldn't say that it's the contractor's fault. But he's the only one who was supposed to fix the waterproofing and he said that he fixed it but I was told that the guy put silicone in it. I had to end up getting a new refrigerator.
AHS finally purchased it after me calling a couple of times. It’s just one thing after another, and these are the people that they're sending out. The guy was sent out twice and he said, "it looks like there's silicone inside the door.” He also said it would have been better for me to get a whole new door or a new refrigerator because it was cheaper than trying to get the door fixed. Also, AHS told me that my upgrade was going to be $59 but it was actually 60-something. Once my contract is over, I know I'm gonna switch.

My mother-in-law had American Home Shield, and she was in Aiken South Carolina. When we bought our home, I considered getting it. It was because we have a lot of electronics, and my mother-in-law was very pleased with it. I’m very happy with how things are going. In the beginning, I had some issues because I was quoted a cost and they were auto-drafting it from my account, and I was getting billed, saying that my account was past due. I was ready to cancel it because I was so frustrated, and I kept getting bills that my account was past due. That might be something to look at, is when new clients are set up, to make sure that if they do choose auto-draft, that it is set up properly.
What I like about AHS is that they take care of you in a timely manner. I called regarding my air conditioner, because I wanted to find out if that was all right, because I was having some damp issues in my house and I was concerned. I called, and they found somebody that was able to come out, and they responded back to me very quickly. So I like the response time and the people that they have as contractor with them. They're very friendly and professional. They knew what they were talking about. And they explained everything to me, which made me feel a lot more comfortable with having them come to my home.

American Home Shield said that they don't make that oven anymore and there are no more parts. So, I'm getting a different oven. There was an oven that they offered to me and it’s on backorder for a few weeks. I called them today and their rep had called the supplier while I was on the phone with her. She came back on, said that the oven was still on backorder, and they didn't know when it was going to be available. But what she ended up doing was sending me a new link with another oven that is available. So, I went ahead and ordered it. We had a leak that was causing water to come out of what looked like the tank area. A repairman came out, inspected it, and knew what was wrong. A seal had gotten old, corroded and was not holding anymore. He was very professional. He left, got the replacement seal ‘cause he didn't have that exact kind with him, came back, put the seal in, and fixed the toilet. The only problem was we had a little bin and he needed to borrow a bin to catch the water. It was dirty and the toilet was dirty when he got done from the black residue from the toilet tank.
American Home Shield advertises that they are a company that will do rekeying and that’s one of the reasons that we chose them for the house we just moved into. As soon as we got in, that was our very first claim. They called about a week later saying they were still working on that. They didn't have anybody right then that was available. Then they called about three weeks after that and said they didn't have anybody who does that through them. We'd already paid the $100. They said, “You will need to read the paperwork we're gonna send you so that you can go find a locksmith and make sure that they will agree to our terms and do it the way that we say. They'll need to fill out the paperwork and turn it in.” That was a huge hassle.
I told them, "You said that you guys do this.” The rep said, "If you wanna wait until we have somebody, that's your prerogative. But it could be forever if it happens, even.” I asked could we get our money back. The rep said, “If you choose to just do it on your own, you'll need to fill out the appropriate paperwork.” It was a hassle no matter which way we go. She got a little snippy and I told her, “I'm not getting ugly. You shouldn't be.” She toned it back immediately.
American Home Shield is a good idea when you're buying a house. We will probably continue our plan out of pocket once ours expires. It was part of our contract that the previous homeowners would provide a warranty. They were willing to pay up to a certain level and we were willing to pay the difference to bump it up even higher ‘cause we wanted to get American Home Shield Premium. But when you buy through the realtor for the initial purchase, it's not exactly the premium. It's the Premium Realtor Plan. The regular standard one would come out and do a once-a-year AC and heat check and tune-up. That's not included with the Realtor one. It’s strange ‘cause you can't see the Realtor one as a consumer.
Our AC has broken down twice. It was on the weekend, which stinks, so those times it was hard to get somebody out. But the technician did come out and fix it twice. The second time it broke and it was a separate AC issue, we were still under the one $100 charge. My mother has this plan, and she has had a couple of things go wrong. American Home Shield has been good to fix it. With covid making everything wonky, when she had to get her stove and range replaced, they had said maybe a couple weeks, and it wound up being two months. But I had a feeling it would be because everybody I talked to who had ordered appliances was saying nothing was moving. We were living with them at the time and I was so glad we limped along with her old broken one and didn't put it on the curb like our original plan was because we would have been completely without one for like three months.

AHS is great. Whenever I called up or have gone online, I have had somebody call me within 12 hours, the most 24 hours, to book an appointment. They schedule it, they get out here and fix the problem. For the most part, they have done a phenomenal job, with the exception of my stove, which has been a failure. Not really their fault, necessarily, but the vendor's fault.
They got somebody out here, seemed very knowledgeable. Supposedly ordered the parts in March. The springs in the door of the oven are not functioning correctly. Granted, the stove is probably 13 years old. But it's under warranty, and they said they could find the parts. They ordered the parts, it took weeks to get back to me. It was back and forth, they did and they didn't have the parts. So I don't know what was going on.
I've been contacting American Home Shield saying, "Guys, just assign it to somebody else. I don't really care about paying the 75 bucks. Let's just get somebody out here to fix it." This entire time, I've had a really a non-functioning stove with a door that's cracked open. The problem with American Home Shield, the only sort of "gotcha" is they have been very much following their rules and their rules are they have to contact the vendor but the vendor wasn't responsive.
Finally, just the other week, they said, "Since this vendor really can't find these springs, we'll just replace the stove." However, that was a call that somebody made on the phone that hasn't been communicated to the right people yet. So, it's still not resolved. We've got Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up as the next major events. So if I have to go order a brand-new stove oven range today, it's gonna take me to the middle of December to get it in. It's a little irritating, but I'm trying to work through the process. But for most everything else they've done like the dishwasher and garage door opener, they've fixed it, all within about 40 hours. I've got great things. It's just this one nagging issue that's not going away.

I used the home warranty when there was a leak in the roof and inside my ceiling. The tech said it was an overflowed tank and he emptied it. He told me to wait for the next rain.

Our coverage ends today and we have given thought to renewing it. It has been nice to have that safety net, but we're unsure of being able to justify the expense. However, everything has been great with us and if I had one criticism to make, it would be allowing the customer a bit of choice in the service provider. Looking back, there’s no way we could have known this, but I wasn’t wild about the guy who came out from Sears to fix our dishwasher. He knew his stuff and got the job done, but he had to come out twice. The first time, it wasn’t what he thought it was, which I understand. He had to come out a second time. We ordered a part then he fixed it. It works fantastically, but the customer service experience could have been better. And here I am complaining about getting my dishwasher fixed for a home warranty cost total of $100. On the other hand, Matthew, the plumber, was fantastic. There was a bad seal in our upstairs shower and he replaced it.
Great! We appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

So far, American Home Shield's service is pretty good but they go up on the price. I guess things have to go up every once in a while though. Certified Electrical Technologies recently came out, and the tech was informative, showed me what the problem was, corrected the problem, and even gave me some insight on other lighting issues that I was looking at and things that I want to upgrade. We also have a refrigerator claim in the past, and we had a technician come out for that. He was good, really informative and I had a very extensive conversation with him as well.
Warren,

The fan motor needed to be replaced and I was impressed that they got back to me as quickly as they did. I placed the claim one night and I had an email immediately from AHS saying it's been assigned to a vendor. Then, the next morning, I had a call from Higginbottom's Heat & Air about scheduling. They came out and took care of the issue.
That's exactly what we like to hear. We are happy to know that AHS is beneficial to you. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have great week.

American Home Shield set us up with Beaches Air Conditioning and they were absolutely terrible. They came out in multiple occasions, didn't know what they were doing and tried to do the quickest fix. It always failed, regardless. The fan that was initially put in the unit by Beaches Air Conditioning was too small and they also installed the incorrect blade for the fan. So not only was it overheating the fan because it was too small for the unit, the fan blade itself was extremely loud due to running too fast. It couldn't keep up. The correct motor was a two-stage motor, which is required for that unit, and that was not put back in by Beaches, and they knew that. I hope AHS never recommends Beaches to anybody in this area and I hope they do terrible because they were terrible.
We couldn't get any documentation saying Beaches did the fan. They had paperwork that they worked here but it was vague. They didn't have any part numbers nor any notes. It just showed a service call. We were able to get Airpro somehow and they were awesome. We were connected with them and they were able to take the job on. They immediately knew what was wrong and the AC is still working flawlessly. It was a little frustrating with the other AC company but if AHS would let their customers choose a little bit for the repair, the experience would be a little but easier, seeing that it's a little out of control. We didn’t have a choice. But they could give us three options and tell us to do our own review, and we could let them know which one to use. And if we don’t want to do that, they can pick one for us.
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done.
We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

We had an AC claim and South Florida Crane & Cooling was wonderful. They solved my problem. We had a possible power surge that caused our motor and our air conditioner to reverse. Our fan in the compressor box outside was running in the reverse direction. So, it wasn't cooling, and it was running the air in the wrong direction over the coils. They had to replace the motor. I’m very satisfied with them.
I'm pretty frustrated that I haven’t heard back from American Home Shield though. We had to go to camp for our second trip, so it totally got put on the back burner, but I still have no hot water in my bathroom two weeks later. The contractors are great in my experience. They seem knowledgeable. They're able to diagnose the problems. It goes back to American Home Shield not necessarily following through on their end. Sometimes they follow through, and it’s great. Other times, they don’t. I got another open service request right now for a slab leak, and I've been waiting for a response for two weeks. For the first week and a half, I called three times a day every day. Every time I called, they said, “We’ll let you know in 24 to 48 hours.” I’ve still not received response.
Most of the time, they handle things. But when something arises, there's really no easy avenue for any kind of recourse and reaching customer service that can do anything to resolve your problem. I do my claims through the American Home Shield website. It’s easy to submit a claim and submit a problem. But we had other issues going on right now also with American Home Shield where there's no ability to resolve or get in touch with a human being easily except to someone in India who can't do anything other than send an email, which I'm still waiting two weeks later for an email back. Nobody returns the call, too. The website’s great, except that you can't actually resolve your problem if you have a problem.

I've had American Home Shield for quite a while and their service is excellent. They respond to concerns really timely. I love the fact that when you call, you get service. That part is really prompt. I have no issue with the service fee too. At one time, that was $100 but it went up to $125. The service techs that come out from whatever company would usually be right on. When I had an AC issue, a Budget service guy came out and he was really great. The problem seemed to be resolved.
In 2016, American Home Shield ended up replacing the AC unit that I had in the house. It seemed like a cheap unit. The unit I had before was an old one but I only had an issue when I had to replace it. Other than that, it never leaked Freon. With this new unit to be leaking Freon was awfully strange. I haven't even had that thing for a good six years. I'm really disappointed with the quality of the cheap replacement items and that is unacceptable. American Home Shield should improve on the quality of these items. Everything's gonna be surrounding costs and I understand that part. But they should use the better quality of parts. That aside, I'm not dissatisfied with American Home Shield.

It took forever to get my refrigerator to where they finally decided it wasn't going to work. The contractor’s great. But the refrigerator would work for about a week, and then it’d break down. Then I'd have to call American Home Shield again. This went on since the first of July. Finally, the contractor said, “This particular model here that was made during this time does this. And if I had looked up the model, I would have probably given up a lot sooner just because I've had every one that's been made during that month’s time.” But I got a text from American Home Shield that said that they were going to pay for the refrigerator. It just took forever.
I also had an AC claim. My niece had said that she changed the battery on the little control. It was in May and my mom gets cold. I wasn't worried about the AC, so I didn't really go after it. Then I kept seeing the reading that it said about the batteries. I said, “Well, maybe she put old batteries in it.” So, I changed it again. Then when I called the tech, he came out. He looked at it and say, “Of course you got all the flips and breaker, all this?” I said, “Yes, I've done that. I've done all this stuff.” He looked at it, looks at the wall and said, “Huh.” I told him not to tell anybody. We just didn’t have the thing pushed in all the way so that it connected, so the two units would talk to each other. He fixed it within five minutes of being here.
There was something that get me kind of mad. Before, I hadn’t been getting a person and when I got a person, she was very rude. I told the service guy and he said, “Well, we can’t help that she was rude." When I was reporting that the refrigerator was not working, she said, “Well, you realize that you will be charged if this is a different refrigerator?” Other than that, having American Home Shield is worth it.

AHS could improve on getting more vendors to do more specialty items. The appliances were not a big deal. But my pool that was serviced last year took a long time to get resolved. But with my recent claim, GE was dispatched and my issue was addressed very quickly and resolved within weeks.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together.

AHS gets stuff done. I like them. I also had them at my old house when I owned another home. Recently, my dryer wouldn't start. The tech came out here and figured it out pretty quickly. I also had an electricity claim, where electricity wasn't running to anything in the kitchen, any of my appliances. There's a special switch or a special type of plug. The tech tried to explain it to me, but keeps it from causing worse issues when there's something that could flip the breaker. All I would have had to do was press the button on the switch. So when he did it, I was like, "Oh, man." He was nice. He figured it out in about five minutes and he was done.

The AC was not cooling and I called AHS and then the technician came out the next day. It was a very good experience. The technician came out quick. The repair was done quickly. It only cost me $100 out of pocket this time, but if we had not had the warranty, it could have cost a lot more. Before, I had an experience where my refrigerator was out and it was a horrible experience. I called and they couldn't schedule my appointment for a week or two out. Then when they did schedule it, the person was supposed to come one day, we waited and waited and waited. They didn't come. So I had to call back, and then I couldn't get another technician out for a week or two later. Then when they came out, they looked and then they had to order a part. Then it was about three weeks after that. It took over a month to get my refrigerator repaired. So we were without a refrigerator for a month.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together.

We had a leak in a faucet and a toilet that was taking forever to fill. I called American Home Shield on that one because this was something we purchased the home that should have been fixed originally. And supposedly, it was done by one of the contractors. So, when AHS said I missed the time to do a relist, we just opened a new ticket. I received the name of the actual technician, as well as his phone number, and the company that was gonna be in use. Everything is fixed, and done fine and quickly. The technician was very personable, chatted and explained each process. He also showed me what was wrong.
If you have a good contractor and you're able to communicate with them, it's fine. If you have a problem, talking to AHS is like banging your head against the wall. They don't listen to you. They talk only on a script. I've had some issues, and I have had to make multiple calls to the point where I've been on hold for hours and never got any resolution. People were supposed to call me back. Never got a call back. So, it's very hit-and-miss. But we've done this to protect ourselves on a new home for any kind of a catastrophic event.

Our hot water heater was inconsistent. We would turn it on, and the hot water would come on, and then it would go cold. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, and I received the contractor's phone number. The information I received was that I needed to call them to schedule the appointment. The contractor never resolved my issue, though. They came out, unplugged one of my hot water heaters and told us that that would fix that, which then proceeded to leave us without hot water for a couple of days until we decided that we would just turn it back on. The technician was very nice. He came back out. They claimed that we didn't have the right gas line going up to the hot water heater, which is incorrect because we ended up having to get Xcel Energy to come out. This claim is still not closed. We're still working with somebody to come and fix the hot water issue.
The original service request went in on the 7th. I understand it takes time to find a contractor, and AHS has specific contractors they have to work with and they have 24 hours to call AHS. But I don't think that their contractors are as qualified as AHS thinks they are. If you look up some of their contractors on Google reviews, they're really poorly rated. I tried to address that with one of the people that I spoke with at American Home Shield. They said that Google isn't a trusted source, and anybody can put a review on Google, which I kind of throw back.
I said, “That's **, because you're going to hire a contractor, or anybody, or look up a review for anyone, where do you start?” People usually start with Google. Apart from that, my issue is still not resolved and we can’t get ahold of the new contractor that's been assigned to us. I’ve asked to go outside of AHS' contractors and find my own, and then be reimbursed for it, but I've been told that they need another opinion. We’re going on two weeks here.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I will email you shortly as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

Having a home warranty is great. The main part about it is I don't have to worry about anything as long as I pay my bills. I put in a request and I just have to wait for the company to come, check it out, assess and get back to me. So far, I had to have two things replaced instead of being fixed. It didn't take too long for them to get back to me and let me know what they were gonna do and how long it would be before I got another one. Recently, my microwave wasn't heating even though I could hear it when it came on and it was rotating. The repair people who came had masks and they were great. Very professional and personable.
