I called in a plumbing claim to American Home Shield for leaks. It was for the toilet. It was easy. The contractor was awesome, very courteous and very mindful of the cleanliness of my home. He had on the little shoe thingies and he had on his mask. He was a very professional young man. He explained things to me. The toilets are running very well now.

I really didn't like being charged $125. We did have somebody come out for the electrical. When we turned on the switch in the bedroom, it was crackling. We didn't wanna bother with it. So, I waited a while until I saved the money so I could call it in. When the tech came out, he said it was just changing the lightbulb. I don't think I should’ve been charged $125 for him to change a lightbulb. I thought it was something serious because it was crackling and snapping in the ceiling every time we turned on the light switch. I don't think a lightbulb would do that. It seems to me I should at least get half of that money back.

Right now, I have my stove that has to be looked at, and that's electrical. One evening, I turned my stove on and I went to feed my baby, and the fire alarm in my home started going off. When I got downstairs to check the stove, it was billowing smoke, and the element was bright orange. I had it on low. The fire people came out. We got that done. A week later, I said, “Well, let me see. Let me try again.” I started on low, it started to get bright orange and started smoking. So, that's something that has to be fixed. But I don't wanna have to call them to come and fix that. I'm just scared to call them about the stove. I'm saving up my money to go ahead and buy a brand new stove. My neighbors tell me that Nationwide is pretty good. I really am thinking about looking elsewhere because I think there should be some more customer service.

The garbage disposal busted open and water started running down underneath the sink. When I first called, I had it listed as a garbage compactor. So they ended up redirecting it to the right person, which was really cool because I didn't have to pay another fee. Then the tech came out and fixed the garbage disposal. My wife was home when he came and she said that it was really good. He handled it and rolled out. The claim process was pretty simple. You just got to pretty much put the area that it is. I've used this service twice and it's been amazing for me. I really like it. It takes the stress off of ever having to worry about anything breaking.

I bought a house in Florida in 2015 and they had a warranty with it when I bought it. So, I continued the warranty and I added it to my house in Virginia also. The icemaker was acting up and Priority Mechanical came out and fixed it. It saved me money when I used the service from American Home Shield. In the past, when I have a problem in Florida, I would call on the telephone and I would be on hold for usually over an hour or at least 45 minutes to make a service request. And when I go to the website, my Virginia House comes up, which is fairly easy to do. But I don't know how to get the Florida house to come up. It doesn't ask you if you have more than one house because maybe that's not common, but it is in today's day and age. AHS need to make the homepage more user-friendly, so you could put in the address of the home. It would be simple to do. You name an address and if you got a contract there, it should come up.

I'm not pleased with American Home Shield and I'm going to be canceling the subscription that I just renewed. Before I purchased my home, the contractor that remodeled it gave me a year with American Home Shield. Then I renewed it and I paid 37.83 a month for 12 months. It was to expire at the end of October. So on the 19th, I decided to renew it for the third year. I authorized the girl and for 37.83 a month. She didn't get the confirmation but it came in the email. But on Thursday the 22nd, American Home Shield withdrew from my bank and I noticed it Friday morning on the 23rd. They took out $454 without my permission and their receipt showed $37. So I kept calling through the weekend for two reasons. The last person I spoke with was Nash and was nasty. On Tuesday, I was told by Nash that she would have a supervisor call me within an hour or two hours at the most.

I have not heard anything from American Home Shield except for Wednesday where I've gotten a voicemail from the supervisor. Nash accused me of blaming her and turning her over to the Better Business Bureau. I said that I wanted to speak to a supervisor so I could get rectified the money. So I said that when this was all over, I would be writing a letter to whoever the CEO of American Home Shield and I would CC it to Better Business Bureau. So she was so afraid that I was gonna turn her name in and I would not. But I am disappointed with that. That was on the 23rd, on Saturday. It was before we started daylight savings time.

I was going into the hallway to the master bedroom and just slightly to the left was the open door to the main bathroom and something glistened. I have skylights in both bathrooms. So the light reflected down on the water on the floor. It was clear clean water was coming from the base of the toilet and it flooded. I was trying to keep it off the wood floor in the hall and the bathroom has marble tiling in both bathrooms. The master bath is embedded on the other side of the wall.

I had called American Home Shield on Saturday night and I couldn't get through, so I just hung up and didn't leave a message. So Sunday morning at 8:00 on the 1st, AHS gave me a number. I have a whole long list of numbers and times. So Sunday, I made nine calls to the vendor and they were closed on Sunday. I made five calls with American Home Shield and I didn't get anyone here. The first person who came out was Tuesday morning. And I went to three or four different vendors before and they wouldn't escalate.

I said that it was an emergency 'cause I'm a senior citizen and I have respiratory health issues. So by Monday, the toilets were overflowing and black stuff was in the shower and in the bathtub and then brown stuff. They took my $75 and the plumber that came out didn't do anything 'cause we couldn't find the main flow either for him to check that. So they basically did nothing for me.

I will not recommend American Home Shield and I am dropping the service. I paid for all the money they owe me for over a year. I should only have to pay one month 'cause I was gonna be done with it before that 22nd with this first month, and the $75, because I got ripped off. My max on my homeowner's insurance happened to be 21,600 and the repair is gonna cost more than that. If American Home Shield had someone out there right away, it'd be just very minor.

I had American Home Shield up in San Jose from 2007 to three years and had good service but then I didn't renew it. Down here, it's shoddy. And of the hours I was on the phone with them, I was on hold more than I spoke to someone. Also, most of their reps are in the Philippines. I got people in Georgia twice and they understood and they were supposed to be documenting my file. But the others, it was almost like a recorded message but in different voices. Everyone said that same thing and go on. They have about several different statements and I can almost repeat them all word-for-word once they started. That's not acceptable. My claim was an emergency. I told the reps to escalate it but I found out that they never escalated it until Tuesday morning.

My heating unit wasn't blowing. So I called American Home Shield, read off my contract number, and let them know that I was in need of a service. All of this was prerecorded that I went through and sometimes, it wouldn't listen to what I was saying. It’d go and put down what it wants or kick me out and send me to somebody, which was good. Then I'd get a chance to talk to a human. But for this claim, I called, registered, and paid my money. Then, they made contact with the people here to come and do the work. Two days later, the people sent me an email that said they would be here on a certain day at a certain time. Then they started going into COVID-19 and began asking if anybody was sick. I told them that that wasn't a problem and I answered all of their questions.

When their representative got here, I made sure I stayed six to eight feet away from the young lad. I took him down to the heating unit and I showed him my switches where you can go click the switch to cut it off or if it all went power, you can go back to it and reset. Then I moved out of his way and he was here for about 30 minutes. He came back and said he got me going and I thanked him for his time. He wrote up the bill, I got a copy of it, and he departed.

Since the repair, the heater has been going. But my request apparently wasn't for him to come up and look at the control in the hallway, which is hot. We can't get heat until it reaches 80 in the hallway, but it's 29 outside. So eventually, I’m going to have to get somebody to come in and adjust my thermostat to where I like it at approximately 68 to 72 degrees in the house, instead of me having to put it up on 80. But I'm going to have to see how this goes. I'm not going to call AHS because when I first started this back in 2004, I used to get services quicker. But here in 2020, I'd call in one day, they'd take up the recording to get the information, and two days later, I'd get some confirmation. Then they'd call or get an email from a contractor that says they'd be coming out on such and such a date. After, they'd come and make a preliminary investigation.

But when I submit the claim, they'd ask me what was wrong and I'm not a technician on what's wrong and what's not right. Then, I found out that they didn't do panel upgrades. I was here for two months without air. But I have an attic fan that pulls air through the house and I managed the situation. Still, if I had known that AHS didn't do upgrades, I wouldn't have waited eight weeks after I first called them to do something. I’d have called and got the electricians over here like I did to get it fixed. They upgraded my whole panel to 200 from what it was and they took the whole electrical wiring loose on the house, put new meter, then went down in the basement, took out the old panel, put in a new panel, rewired and hooked up all of that stuff. They did it all in 12 hours and I thanked the electrical people for working so intensely.

Other than that, I've recommended AHS to family members in other cities. But they changed since ’04 when I first was introduced to them. They got too many people who are speaking languages over there that I can't understand. I was in Vietnam, Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. But I couldn't catch it the language that they spoke. So it didn't fluster me because I couldn't understand the lady I talked to about my air conditioning and she was from China or somewhere.

Despite that, if you're buying a house, get American Home Shield to cover yourself because they have replaced microwaves, my oven, and stuff that for some reason went out. We got the people over who did the initial inspection, found out that it would be uneconomical to repair, tried to order but couldn’t, so they asked if I'd like a replacement. I've also had several people who've offered me to come away but I'm going to stick and stay. AHS is doing great as far as I'm concerned.

The microwave was making a really loud noise. The original company, Sears, was supposed to come and they were terrible. They tell you you have to be here from 8:00 to 8:00. That was ridiculous. I stayed here the entire day, and then they came an hour later. I called back and rescheduled with somebody else. Economy Appliance came out and was really prompt. They took care of it right away. They had to order the part and American Home Shield sent them the part 'cause it was a cheaper way to do it. They were really good.

I've submitted two incidents with AHS through their website and both got resolved to my satisfaction. The turnaround time wasn't that great, but they weren't critical problems that had to be solved within 24 hours. One of the claims was for my AC unit that stopped working. It cracked and leaked, and they had to replace it. The other issue was more of a plumbing thing. A water fixture kind of broke and was leaking. I needed to have them come in and fix it. Both the techs who came out for my claims were very professional, courteous, and nice people. The plumber who was here was wearing his mask the whole time that he was in the house. He also took care not to touch anything else besides what he was doing and we took precautions too.

All in all, AHS is quite pricey. It's about $600 a year without even making a claim, then it's $100-something per claim. Before you even get your first claim in to do some work, you're $600 close to $700 out of pocket. So, I wouldn't recommend it for everybody because that is a pretty high price tag. I also would not recommend it for newer homes. But for people that may have older homes that have been out there for a long time that could have a broken piece of equipment, it's worth it.

The refrigerator kept shutting off. It kept losing power when it was plugged into the outlet. I've had calls for other things and Home Shield told me a tech would come out in 24 to 48 hours. And then, straight ahead, they sent me a notification, what the name of the company is and their phone number. And then they said, “48 hours. You can call them anytime. But if you don't hear from them, just go ahead and call.” They always keep you alert.

Luckily, it wasn't our main refrigerator in the house. It was our garage one that we put excess stuff in. It helped a lot because we always have a lot of extra stuff, just in case. We could plug it into another outlet, but for some reason, there hasn’t been another outlet. But when it first happened, everything melted. Luckily, I have a big industrial-size refrigerator in the house. So, I had to stuff everything in there. And then, we have another little deep freezer in the garage, too. I had to stuff as much stuff as I could in there. The guy came out and he diagnosed it as the motherboard, which controls everything. He had to order the part. And then, he came back three days later, put it in and it has been working good since. Good service.

I had a constant drip coming from our guest bathroom. It's a half bath on the first floor. I called and put in a request to have AHS get a plumber to come and fix that for us. The plumbers came two weeks ago. The tap and valve handles are all separate. They took them all apart including the two valve handles. They said they found what they thought to be the problem. They tried to show me but I didn't see any difference. They said they were gonna go up to the local Home Depot and see if they could get the pieces for the replacement. They did that then came back. Home Depot didn't have the parts so the plumbers were gonna have to go. They said they contacted their supervisor back at the company and sent him pictures of the parts. He was gonna have to order them.

I asked the plumbers if what they took apart could be put back together and if I should use it or not. They said they could put the parts back together but I wouldn't be able to use the sink. I'm guessing it was because of the seals. The plumbers left it apart. Now, I have those pieces laying on my counter back there. This includes the knobs and the pieces that came out of the inside of the knobs.

After a week, I still didn't hear anything so I called the plumbing company. All I got were recordings. You can't talk to a person. It says if you want to punch through a number, you can leave a message. But the voicemail even says you'd get a quicker response if you send an email. I sent an email but still, I never got a response. I called again on Friday. This would have been a week and two days after the problem. Finally, I left another message and somebody called back. That person said, "I will take and pass this on to our supply guy and have somebody contact you."

Someone from the plumbing company then told me, "I've been looking for your parts for a week. My technician who was out there told me it was a Kohler valve." But it was not a Kohler. Looking at the part, there are no stamps or anything on it. The valves have been in there since we bought the house three years ago. They've probably been in there maybe about 10 years. They're nice quality valves and not super old. The guy told me he sent it to his people that know and deal with Kohler. Kohler said they couldn't help so he was going to have to check in other places.

I have health conditions and I have visiting therapists to come. They like to wash their hands. But our bathroom is now not usable for cleaning up. I really need to get this fixed. But the guy told me it was gonna be at least another week or maybe two. I said, “That's a little too cavalier. And you're telling me one or two weeks just to find the part?” I asked at what point they were gonna throw in the towel here and get in touch with AHS to do something more than that. He said he won't do that for at least three weeks. That said, I was gonna be without my sink for a month.

We left it at that. It was Friday afternoon. He said he had my number on his desk and he had the email as well with the pictures the plumbers sent right there. He was going to keep looking next week. I've been trying to call this week and I got nothing. I called AHS to tell them the contractor was not answering his phone and not answering requests. It's been two weeks. AHS patched me through to a customer service rep who could barely speak English. It was more than a horrible language. I had to keep asking her to repeat things. She couldn't explain to me what my options were.

After I had to repeat three or four times, she finally indicated to me that I could get a refund and I could get funds to do the work myself. I'm handicapped enough that I can't do these sorts of things so I pay $65 a month to AHS to take care of these things for me. The rep said that was all she could do for me. I either have to wait for the plumber to come and finish the job or AHS could fund me some money.

I couldn't understand whether the rep was just talking about refunding my $75 deductible or whether she was talking about refunding that and providing me money to go buy the valve parts myself. I told her that the plumber who's a certified one couldn't find the valve parts. How was I gonna find them? I told her I wanted to speak to her supervisor but she said we couldn't do that as she was working from home because of COVID. She didn't have a supervisor. That was not gonna cut it. I told her that she needed to tell me who I could talk to at AHS because we were not able to communicate.

After that went on for a little bit, she eventually offered me an alternative, She would pass an email to some customer service person and that person would contact me within 24 hours. Someone would come to my house and look at the problem. From what I understood, someone will come from the local office to help me. I didn't even know AHS has a local office. I've heard nothing and I tried to get in touch with AHS. I was on hold for a long time. This was in the middle of a workday. I'm not gonna blame them for that. I kind of understand that. I tried to do one of those pop-up window chat rooms but that didn't work either. I got disconnected from that.

Somebody sent me an email to ask for my opinion of AHS. The sad thing is that just a week or more ago, I submitted a glowing, “I've never had problems with AHS.” AHS had two people come recently for the furnace. One was to do the fall maintenance and one was to replace my thermostat. I've had AHS in the last three homes I've owned for over 16 years. I probably had AHS 10 of those 16 years. I'm not against them but somehow, they're dropping the ball with this plumbing claim big time. My contract with them ends in January and somehow, that's known by their competitors. Their competitors have been sending me emails right and left trying to get my business.

This has been frustrating for me and for my wife as well. She had to deal with the issue for the last five days. As a matter of fact, she's on the computer right now looking up new vanities. I was actually gonna try to go back to AHS and cancel completely if they would give me my $75 back. We're seriously looking at just having a contractor come in, tear out the whole vanity and valves, and replace the whole thing. I looked online and apparently, this company that AHS contracted is not Better Business Bureau rated. They are very poorly rated by Google too. When we looked up their guy's reputation, he's been this way with more than one person. It’s sad that AHS has contracted with somebody with that bad of a rating.

The contractor that American Home Shield had come out and install my furnace put it back together incorrectly, which caused the AC coils that were sitting on top of the furnace to create a lot of condensation and it leaked into my furnace. When they put in the furnace, they had also said they were going to replace the thermostat and they never did that but I let it go. I called them a couple of times and they sent someone over saying that everything was okay.

Also, American Home Shield said that after six months, the furnace was no longer under warranty. I only used it for a month and a half and then the year after, when I turned my heater on again, it was no longer under warranty with them, which is not appropriate. At this point, Standlee came out and fixed the furnace and the coils for the air conditioner. They said the coils were no good and they had to replace those. They also fixed how the original contractor set it on the furnace, which caused the leak. They did an awesome job. But I paid $1,200 dollars and I had to pay the $100 deductible on top of it. I’m not real happy with American Home Shield right now and I am debating whether I'm gonna keep it or not.

So far, AHS' service has been great. We only had one situation where we put in a request and we didn't get charged. We never got a call from the contractor. Other than that, AHS has been very quick and responsive. It was great. The problems that we had were minor. When we moved into our house, one of the sinks was already draining slowly. We tried to fix it ourselves. But when the other one started backing up, I used the home warranty service and had someone come out to check the problem to make sure everything was good to go. We are first-time homeowners so it was better to have a pro come out and make sure nothing got messed up.

I’ve had perfect interactions every time I’ve had to use American Home Shield. Recently, the furnace was running but it wasn’t heating the house above 63. It turns out, it was a pressure switch. The technicians who came were fantastic. They came out three times but that is in no way a poor reflection on them. The first time they came out, the guy discovered the problem, temporarily fixed the bad switch and had to order the part. I didn't realize he had to order the part. The next day when it was not heating again, I called. They immediately sent somebody over and got it running again. The next day, they came out for the third time to replace the switch. They didn’t put me off a day. The experience was easy, simple, and expedient.

I go online to submit a claim and it takes a couple of minutes, and that's it. Very simple and easy. As soon as I got ahold of Home Shield, the contractor was here in a couple of days because it was the weekend. The AC unit was clogged. The guy came. He was here for a while, and he figured out that that was the problem. He unclogged it, and then he had to empty the drain pan. It was quick. I'm quite happy with the service. If I even have any type of issues, I know that Home Shield is going to respond quickly with sending somebody out here. So, it makes me feel a lot better.

A whole bunch of water fell through from the attic down to our second floor and it went all over the floor. Our Hartford insurance had to come out and they had to bring big fans and take care of that. Apparently, there was a whole bunch of equipment that was broken, and Marina came out and repaired the air conditioner. It was great. When submitting claims, first I call American Home Shield and tell them something’s broken. They send somebody out, and then they fix it. We only had bad luck once. They have a lousy company called AG Appliance on their list and they should be on it. Those jerks came out and put us through everything.

People should look at the reviews, and then when they have a lousy company, like we did that one time, they should tell AHS to send somebody else out because the company is bad. AG messed us up and we had to call American Home Shield and say, “You need to send a different company out because we have a broken washing machine.” They sent out another company, everything was cleared up, and it was perfect. In the end, our washing machine was replaced. I highly recommend American Home Shield. They did a good job by us, and except for that one experience with that horrible company, everything else has been wonderful. They've been great with us.

I submit service requests strictly online. It’s a lot easier. Every time I try and call American Home Shield, I get put on hold, then I wait and I wait. Why was I doing that when I could just click service online and it's done? Recently, I had a light and three outlets in two different rooms that weren't working. They used to work, but then all of a sudden, they stopped working. We didn't use it that much, but we just got done redoing the room, so we got them fixed.

I called American Home Shield. Moen came out and the guy was amazing. He was very knowledgeable. He told me what the problem was and he said he fixed it where it wouldn't happen again. He was in and out. It was quick. The time before that, I had my AC out for almost three months because there was a disconnect of communication between the electrician, the HVAC service and American Home Shield. It was the summertime and they left me hanging, so I wasn't happy about that.

I've called American Home Shield for the garage door, the toilets which were running and the dishwasher. I like the service that I have with them but I'm not thrilled with the $100 copay. I could change my premium’s amount each month and if I paid 49.95 a month, the copay would drop to $75 but the difference is negligible. The last thing that needed to be done was a small little adjustment and I spent $100 on that, so that's probably the thing that I like the least. But it still is comforting to know that AHS is there and the response of the workers is very quick for the most part.

I called AHS because the microwave went off and wouldn't come back on. They sent the company out pretty quickly to fix it. The tech did some work to it and it worked for a few days, but then it went out again. I don't know what he did the first time, but I know that he replaced the fuse. But he did some other stuff to it too. Then, they came back out and fixed it. They changed that fuse three additional times. I told AHS I was afraid the microwave was going to set my house on fire. They told me I have to allow them to at least rectify the problem two or three times, which I did. And when I said enough, they were very good about it. They just told me to pick out what I wanted and the selection process was very easy. Everything was done virtually. They emailed me and I could go through the list, see the pictures, and pick out what I wanted.

At first, I told them I had a GE microwave but then, I told them to just replace the microwave. I wanted one because it was crucial. Since the vent system was built into the microwave, every time we tried to boil water, we'd have steam and it was awful. But when I picked out the microwave, I chose the one that would match my kitchen and AHS told me that that one is a Whirlpool. I said that was even better, so they replaced it with a Whirlpool, which matches my refrigerator perfectly. It tremendously helped our day-to-day functions and I'm really satisfied with them.

The only thing that I hate with AHS is that whatever gets fixed, it’s a lot of back and forth. Somebody has to come out there, look at it and then they get back with American Home Shield. Then they sign off and say, “Okay.” Then they come out and do the thing. But for the most part, they're very attentive. Customer service is great. They get us connected with whoever it is that we need to get connected with to get the problem situated. Comfort Temp came out and they did a great job. They put a new furnace in my home. The day after they put the furnace in, I went back to the property and there was an issue again. When I smelled the gas leak, I immediately called Comfort Temp. They came out to see what was going on. They read that there were some problems. The tech said there was so much gas that he wouldn't be able to find out where the leak was. In fact, he suggested that I call Peoples Gas to find out the leak. He was the first person that shut all the gas off to the house. He said I cannot leave the gas on with all of this gas in there. It was a safety issue and I understood that.

I called Peoples Gas who came out that Monday and they found that there were several leaks. But it was a plumbing issue. One is on the furnace where there's an old regulator. Apparently, that's a plumbing pipe. And there were five shutoff valves that needed to be replaced. I then called AHS and I reported the issue. They assigned it to Patel’s Plumbing & Sewer. But Patel's decided that they couldn't come because the technician became ill. AHS assigned the claim to Aaron Heating & Air Conditioning. The lady named Cathy from there called me and told me to get the people who put the heater in initially to fix the problem and that they were not coming out. They cancelled the service.

I called AHS back and told them the issue. I asked who was coming out to fix the problem and the gentleman that I spoke with told me that he was going to expedite it. It was kinda hard to understand because customer service must be outsourced to another country. I asked to speak with his supervisor. He said that his supervisor would tell me the same thing. I told him I was not complaining about him. I needed to speak with a supervisor because this is Chicago. When the main gas is shut off, I have no heat, no water, and no cooking there. The house is uninhabitable when I don't have those things. He said that he would have his supervisor call me the next day within 24 hours. But I never got a call. Also, the gentleman tried calling Aaron but they hung up on him.

I called again last night and spoke with Rand. He said that he looked in the system and it did not show that my claim was expedited. He was then going to then expedite it. It was 9:00 o’clock at night and I was told someone would call me within four hours. I didn't know how they were going to call me at 1:30 in the morning when they weren't available at 9:00 o’clock. I told Rand that I was having problems with my email so I got a text this morning at 8:33. It said that Water Control Plumbing was supposed to come out. I was to call the contractor to set up an appointment. I called them and left a message because they said they were away from the desk and someone would call me back in five minutes.

Rand also gave me another company, Super Rooter. I also called that company. Super Rooter called me and the rep said that the claim was not in their portal. I am assuming that it was assigned to Water Control Plumbing. I'm waiting for them to call me back to see what's going on. I paid $100 the first time that I was supposed to pay. Rand was so focused on, “I need $100.” But I told him that I was not giving another $100 and for them to figure out that. They were worrying about $100 when I haven’t even gotten stuff done. They kept focusing on Patel’s and Aaron’s and I wanted them to call another contractor. It makes no sense to keep calling the same people. I was upset and I was yelling. It's crazy for me to not have gas. I can’t get the gas turned on until this is fixed. I’ve been couch surfing since Friday.

The other day when my hot water heater was going out, I did a claim and it took a two-day process. I wish that some things could be quicker than others. They have vendors that they use, but there are certain work orders that should be prioritized versus a two-day waiting period. Apart from that, I'm satisfied with everything else. Their guy was professional and respectful of my home. They knew what they were doing and they didn't spend any extra time. They looked at everything. The hot water heater was nine years old. Usually, the lifespan of one of those is anywhere between 9 and 10 years. I'm happy that they came to the conclusion that I was hoping they would. A new water heater was bought and they put it in. No muss, no fuss, clean job. I'm satisfied with my new hot water heater.

I had family members that had American Home Shield prior and they said it was a great service. I had it in Arizona, and then I have it here. It's one of the easiest and most user-friendly services I've had, and the job gets completed in a fast and easy amount of time. One time, I had All American Plumbing & Drain come out for our water heater. Our problem was that the pilot light was going out every two or three weeks consistently and there was an external PVC attachment on the top of the water heater that drained quite a bit of water into a large bucket. I've never seen that before.

I called the contractor and he said that the reason that the pilot light kept going out was because the water heater was set too high. It was overexerting itself and it hadn't been cleaned in x amount of years, so it was too dirty to relight. The contractor turned down the water heater and cleaned out the debris and dirt so that the pilot light would light. He said that because the water heater was turned down, it wouldn't overexert itself, so it wouldn't be draining as much water from the PVC attachment. So far, so good. It still drains water, but it's not as much as it had in the past. The pilot light hasn't gone out since as well.

He should at least control it. Maybe do it an hour before, instead of 15 minutes. When he came in the house and brought that in with him, that wasn't fun. This gentleman also chose a short route in trying to fix the washer, and whatever he did didn't fix it.

I just called and said that my heater won't heat. The representative hooked me up with somebody that afternoon. We had everything all set up. Affordable Heat and Air said it would be on that Thursday between 2:00 and 6:00. Then the guy couldn't be here at 2:00, so they called me and let me know that he would be running a little late and asked if that was okay. I said yes. Everything was A-OK, super job. American Home Shield is excellent. I called with the problem and it was fixed the next day and in a timely manner. My heat is working great.

The hot water tank had corrosion around one of the valves in the front. American Home Shield was very understanding and had someone out very quickly. The tech from Standard Plumbing Sewer came in and went right to work. He said it needed replacement and he did the whole unit. It was raining and he was going in and out. He always wiped his feet at the door and was very clean. I was very satisfied with the promptness, politeness, and taking care of business. It was a very good experience.

I understand, but it's just probably, in the future, not even worth getting it. Because I do a lot of things myself, but whenever I can't figure out, I call. I was going to submit my claim online but it stated that I didn't have a contract. I ended up calling. When I called the number that was listed, they told me to just go ahead and put in a work order over the phone, and going forward, I should be able to do it online. It was quick. Home Shield put the ticket in. Once they took my information down, they stated that I would have a technician come out the next day. Unfortunately, it was postponed. But it wasn't a long postponement. The technician came out two days later.

The technician came in, introduced himself, and stated what he will do. He came in with the protection to put on the floor just in case anything leaks. So, I just told him I would get out of his way, and if he needed me, to just call my name, and he did. He found the problem and he resolved it. He was in here a little over an hour. AHS is good to have because my house is 20 something years old. I don't know if everything has not been replaced. Hopefully, I don't have to call often. But it’s a source of comfort to have just in case something goes wrong. But so far, it’s my refrigerator.

When I went to turn the heater on the other day, it blew room temperature air. It wasn't heating anything. I let it attempt to heat for over a day and I tried to mess with the circuit breakers and do all the normal stuff. But it would never come on. So then I contacted American Home Shield because that's something that should have been taken care of when the AC unit was replaced back in October 2019. I was already on a military deployment at that time and so I was gone until July of this year. It turned out when the guys came out, that whoever installed the AC unit didn't wire the heater up correctly. It shorted out the thermostat as well. So they had to replace the thermostat. Two guys came out and they were super courteous and super helpful. They were great. I live alone and having American Home Shield is my sanity for owning a house.

I had a light in my laundry room that when I turned it off, it didn't look like it turned off completely. My circuit breaker is always tripping every morning, guaranteed a part of the house is off. So I called MC Electric to come out and they inspected the light. They did a few things to it. But the circuit breaker box is still tripping. They did give some advice on the circuit breaker box. Unfortunately, American Home Shield does not cover circuit breaker trips. So the best thing about yesterday's visit was the verbal advice and that was okay. I have someone from Pacific Gas and Electric coming out today to give me more advice. But in this particular instance, the service was satisfactory.

American Home Shield could make an improvement if they put in a box in their website where you could describe the problem in more detail. They just have everything boxed up. So, you click “Electrical,” but you're not able to say much more than that. Right now, I am considering canceling American Home Shield. I am just hanging on because I haven't found anyone else yet. I've had to call for the same problem twice with American Home Shield. One issue was with a toilet and another issue was with the same light. So I spent an extra $200 to fix problems that should have been fixed the first time.

For example, I called for my garage door opener. I was having some electrical problem with the light that wouldn't turn on. The person that came out looked at it and said he wasn't gonna do anything. The contractor said that parts will be replaced. A garage door opener is not cheap. But it seems like the contractors are trying to save their own money. Some of the contractors are trying to make the cheapest repair possible and not really following the spirit of the contract. About 70% of the time I've felt good after they left.

I've made about eight calls for service for various things. I feel like I've wasted $300 for nothing. For some people, that may not be a lot of money, but it is. But I do like the service with American Home Shield. It relieves me from personal hassle of spending all day long trying to fix something I may not be qualified for. But 1/3 of the time, I have not been fully satisfied. Also, there is a haphazard method of checking up to see if the customer was satisfied.

We missed a day’s work to get it done. But everything went well after he got here. My husband did mention that he had to ask him to put a mask on. He said he didn’t have one so my husband let him borrow his and he didn’t have any qualms about doing it.

I told him I called American Home Shield to fix my shower, not my handle. He went back to his truck and told me he got something. He put the metal in and now the shower's working fine. It was a great experience. I'm going to keep American Home Shield with me for many more years. I'm not very happy with them though because I haven't gotten the little pamphlet or book that they were supposed to send me. Also, I received a statement that I gotta pay 29.37 every month. I had two different claims to American Home Shield. The first one was to fix a broken shower head pipe and turn-valve knob to switch from shower mode to tub mode. Then, the second thing was a mainline clogged. I did the claims over the phone. I spent probably 11 hours of 24 on the phone with American Home Shield trying to get somebody out to my property. It was not a great experience for me. They could not get somebody out here and I went for five days without a working toilet, shower, laundry, dishwasher, anything water, plumbing-related. I have one bathroom.

Melton Plumbing is fine. First time they came out here to fix the showerhead. The guy wasn't able to fix it but then he had another technician that he felt confident he could, so he came up the next morning. He was in and out within 10 minutes, and the issue was fixed. They had to order a part for the knob for the shower, to go from shower mode to bathtub mode. That came in. They came and repaired that. They were great.

My issue with American Home Shield was initially, they did not put this work order in as expedited, and it absolutely should have been. I expressed that we only had one bathroom here. So, anytime we had to use the restroom, we would have to leave the house. I have a special needs son that is not potty trained. I wasn't able to bathe him. We would have to go somewhere else to bathe. I expressed that to American Home Shield. They were well aware of it.

The fact that I called on a Friday at noon, and they couldn't get somebody out here until Monday evening at 5:30 was absolutely mind-blowing to me. They offered, “You can use a third-party and we can reimburse you.” One of the main reasons people use home warranty companies is because they may not have the means to pay out-of-pocket for a $200 service call or a $250 emergency call.

I've used my warranty program for different things. I live in an older home. That's why I keep it. I pay them a monthly annual fee to service me. I tried to explain to them that, “This is why I keep it is because I don't have hundreds of dollars, or sometimes it can get upwards to thousands with plumbing issues, etcetera.” They did not expedite it initially. I had to call. I was on the phone for like five hours one day and six hours the next day on a Saturday. I said, “You guys have got to do something.” They offered me a $75 inconvenience credit, which I never saw. I said, “Go ahead and just use it towards another $75 call to get another company out here.” They were never able to find another company. I was never reimbursed that $75. I finally was so mentally-exhausted dealing with them, and I didn't even call them.

I hung up because I was on hold for a supervisor and I was so over it that it wasn't worth me getting frustrated, irritated and upset again. It's not everybody's experience. I've had other issues where I've had to call and use my warranty program, and they've been decent about getting people out here. But this time was absolutely unreal that, in May, I will not be renewing with American Home Shield. I will use a different home warranty company.

I didn't feel like they were doing everything they could have. I went five days without a working house. Also, it was very difficult to understand the customer service department people. Their English was not very good. There were several times where I'm like, “Hold on, repeat what you said.” It was not easy to understand what they were saying all the time. Of all the times I called, I spoke to one person that English was probably their first language. The others were not.

Then the heating mechanism on our dryer went out and they had to replace it. Also, the compressor on our air conditioner went out during the summer and they put a new compressor on it. This is the fourth time I’ve submitted a claim with American Home Shield. There was a relay switch on our air unit that burned out and so it was continually running. I tried to do the claim automated but my voice was too twangy for the automated system, so I ended up talking to somebody. But it went very smoothly. The contractor was great and I had no problems with him. He was very professional and got it done as quick as he could. It took about a week from the time they ordered the part to be able to put it in but he helped us understand what was going on. He got back and fixed it as soon as he got the part in.

My sink was leaking, and my garbage disposal stopped working. It was working, not working, working, not working, that type of thing. I called, put the claim in. The guy from First American Plumbing came and he was quick. He just came in, looked at it to see if he could fix it, and said, "We need to replace this. “ And then he fixed it and did what he had to do, in record time. And that was it. Everything seems to be working fine. I can use my sink now, because before I couldn't. It was very inconvenient to not be able to use it. I was thinking I could get it fixed without having to put a claim in, but I couldn't deal with it anymore. I called somebody else outside Home Shield and they would charge $450 for it. So, I was happy.

This is the first time that I felt the benefit of AHS actually played into a factor. I was almost getting ready to cancel because of the cost per month. Even though it was just a 100 bucks, but still, I felt like, "Okay, well, I got a little benefit from that this time around." However, the cost is a little higher than what I used to pay. I'm not too happy about that. What I don't like is, like this guy came, he's a plumber. I have other plumbing issues, but because Home Shield only does per service, it can get expensive when you have different things going on.

He explained to me who he was and I let him into the house to look over the machine. He determined that the motor underneath was fried and it was more expensive to fix than to replace because it was such an older model. He was very friendly. He talked with me about my heating system and how it had been performing. He asked me about any issues I might have been having with it. He went over some things with me. He did the tune up then talked with me about things that he recommended to help it last longer and things that I might wanna follow up with to improve my system. I had some questions and he took the time to answer them. It went really well.

American Home Shield is really good. They seem to be really responsive and get people out here pretty quick. I resisted getting a home warranty for a long time because I like to pick my people and know who's coming and that I trust them. But, so far, the people they've sent out have been really good. Filing a claim is pretty easy. You just go online, fill out the request then you get a callback. Unless you have a weird situation, then you call. They refused to do the work for many reasons, but Home Shield was very good about getting another company out here right away. Whenever I called, they were able to help me with my questions.

My washing machine was not repairable. We purchased a new washing machine that has already been delivered and set up. Alfa Appliances, the second contractor, replaced a part on my dryer, but Home Shield ordered the incorrect part. So, when the guy came here to replace the part, it was not the right one. But the good thing is, Alfa went ahead, went locally and got the part, and they came back the next day to replace the parts. They were beyond amazing. I have a cooktop that they could not repair because it's out of date, so I'm getting a new one through Home Shield. I already talked to them yesterday. So far, it's going good. It was a long process because I contacted them mid-October. My dryer was fixed the week before, and my cooktop was ordered yesterday.

We did not get the washing machine through Home Shield only because we did not want the one they recommended, and the one that we wanted was out of stock. So, we got the cash-in-lieu. We went to Home Depot and purchased our own machine, and then we got reimbursed. I just received that check yesterday. They're accurate so far.

He cleaned out my dryer and showed me other ways to pull the dryer out. He told me that I may want to clean it out like at least if not once a year, every other year. Using Home Shield was quick, easy, and to the point. I'm very satisfied.

The AHS reps are professional and it is extremely easy to submit claims. I do it online. I log on to my account, and then I request the service. The claim where ATR Heating and Cooling came out was perfect. The guy came in, did what he had to do, and fixed everything that needed to be fixed. He was very professional. On different request though, I had a problem with one of the companies that AHS recommended me to. I didn't like that, but I don't think it's on them.

I needed a toilet flange repair. I ordered the service through online. I paid my service fee and after that, the contractor came and they resolved it. The online service was good. But sometimes, for water leakage, it would be good if someone can come immediately. In my case, they told me that they would come only after 15 hours. But apart from that, everything was okay. The contractor was good. I gave him the clue and after that, he was able to identify the problem. The interactions were good. After the flange repair, my toilet was rocking a bit. So I had to call him again. Then he came back and he fixed the toilet. So far, it is working fine. I have been using American Home Shield for the past two years. It does great things to me. So far, it's a good experience.

I've used AHS twice and my experience had been wonderful. Everybody that they sent out has helped and solved the problems immediately. It is the greatest thing and I'm sorry I didn't have it sooner. But when call they over the phone, you have to wait for at least a half hour to talk to somebody to submit a claim and that's a pain in the neck. For the last claim I made, I did it online and I got an immediate response. They contacted somebody and within the next day, the guy was here. So, submitting claims online is much easier.

One of my claims was for my main bathroom. I had taken a shower and the water was turned off. But when I turned that little thing on the faucet that you’d pull up to stop the water from the shower to go back into the tub, the water that was left in the pipe shot out of the wall. So, I called and told AHS what happened. The repairman came, looked at it, and was trying to fix it. He said that whoever did it messed it up and that they'd just put a new one in. Then, he showed me what he did, ran the water to show me that everything was okay, and it was all fixed the way it should be.

We have a management company that oversees my rental property, so they reach out on behalf of us. Recently, the property was having issues with some of the toilets acting like they were clogged up. Somebody came out and said that they had to snake them, but they couldn't snake them from there. They had to go up through the roof and clean that line out. It didn't happen though. We had to reach out to somebody else to come out and do it. It's a personal friend that has a plumbing business, and he was jammed up, so he was gonna try to get out there this week.

I've also done service requests in the past and it's been easy. The feedback they give me in the emails that I get 'cause I'm not home all the time is good. However, there was a time when my air conditioner went out a few years back and I reached out to them and it took a couple of days for them to get out. It was 102 degrees outside, so that wasn't too nice of an experience. Other than that one hiccup, American Home Shield has been good. It's just the companies that they send out sometimes take a couple of times to get the job done.

The contract says that American Home Shield would cover all these systems and when the providers come out, they could find an excuse why the issue was not a covered item. The last visit was as a result of the gas system being turned off. The air condition and heating is in the attic. There was work done in the neighborhood where the gas lines were changed out. The plumbers who turned off the gas lines in the attic with my AC unit apparently didn’t turn it back on. And so, that was the resolution to the problem.

The technician was a nice guy but he embellished something else on the ticket to make it seem like he did something other than turn the switch back on. He probably flipped the switch in the unit and our heating came back on. I was annoyed that I had to call the claim in twice. When I initially called in, I said it was the air conditioning unit. When I called to schedule an appointment, the lady said I had to call American Home Shield again and specify heating. I was billed twice for co-pays and it was one issue. I've had AHS for several years and then switched and went to somebody else, and came back. So, it's been more than five years this last time. I came back because I'm loyal to a fault. It's easier for me to stick with the devil I know versus the one I don't.

The air conditioning had this pipe that connected in a T-shape with another pipe coming from one of our sinks and that was leaking. The contractors that AHS sent had to redo all the connection for that and that resolved the leak, but it had damaged some of the wood underneath the sink. But the serviceman got it all resolved quickly, so we were happy with the service. He was polite, very knowledgeable and observant of COVID precautions.

However, when I submitted the claim with AHS and the thing was automated, they had a lot of preset things that I could select from. There was a limitation to really explain what the issue was and what category it fell under, whether it was plumbing or AC. 'Cause that one area was part of the AC condensation drip line, but it also fell under a plumbing leak category. So, there was a gray area that was hard to know what selection to choose. But I was able to make an informed guess and worked out.

Also, early on in the process when we had the problem, we started a claim online and I put my contact information, but I didn't show that I had received a call. But then when I called again, they said that they had tried to reach out to me but they were unable to, so they just marked it as unable to reach me. But I had no record of an attempt to be reached out to. Other than that, AHS is a good service. It does exactly what I needed to do at that time of need. When we needed something repaired, AHS was there.

I would recommend American Home Shield. I've had excellent experiences with them in the last five years or so. However, the recent experience was unusual and probably the second kind of dissatisfying work order I've ever had with them in all my years. The toilets weren't flushing well and the guy had to roto-rooter them. He also replaced something in the tank in order to let more water in. I was satisfied with the work completed but I was dissatisfied because I did not get any type of receipt or a letter telling me what was done and the price. It's a rental property and I need to keep track of things like that. I called about a half a dozen times to AM PM for the number, and every single time, I just got a recording and I couldn't leave a message. There's no way I can get in contact with them and I tried all week. I don't want to conduct business with them ever again.

I always have to ask for that piece of paper saying what was done and usually, I always get it. I always can get in touch with them but this company is just like they call you, you don't call them. Also, with AHS, I have to call between six and seven o'clock in the morning Arizona time or else I get put on hold forever. Once I get through, it's now an automated system so I never talk to a live person. But things get moving forward and I get assigned a tech. I get a phone number that I can call in case they don't call me.

I had two companies that came out just to do my air conditioner this summer. The first one said I had to have all this done. I didn't trust it. I would totally recommend American Home Shield to everybody. I love them. I love what they stand for. I love what they do for their customers. However, they should get vendors that are gonna be more forthcoming. The vendor they sent out was not transparent with me. He wouldn't do the work on my unit unless he did the upgrade work which is forcing me to use him to do a gas upgrade that I can do myself. He didn't wanna tell me what was costing $1,440 for upgrades when all I needed done was the unit replaced. He didn’t even wanna tell me on the phone when I called him. He was rude and was being dishonest. He's a dirty contractor and I don't have a room in my life for dirty contractors.

I've had two other contractors come out. I had Right Temp then I had A/C Contractors come out on my furnace. It's not been a great experience with the vendors that American Home Shield sent to my house. He wanted to shove a dry log where the sun don't shine. I told them I was gonna call my own contractor and went for the cash out option. But with the cash out option, I'm still not getting enough to replace the unit 'cause the unit by itself is $1,200. That's excluding the labor. The lady said they didn't get the $100 fee. I thought they did because I gave them a card number. I was under the assumption I made the payment but apparently the payment didn't go through. She said they'd pay 500 and something but less the $100 for the service call.

Also, it's still letting off a gas smell. The guy that came out seemed pretty okay. But the people who came out for the air conditioner sucked. They had to keep coming back. They weren't fixing it right. We had to call to ask for them to come back to do it. It was inconvenient to us. When we’ve had to make a claim with somebody to come out, AHS normally sends them out like a week or so later. But sometimes, we need somebody to come right on out, like for the air conditioner. I made a claim and the process was really cool because I could do it on my phone or I could do it on my computer. That was the second time the service company had to come out. For the second time, I called J&J Mechanical directly and the rep there told me that I had to go back through the process and get another ticket. I didn't know because that was my first time doing it. I went back online and told American Home Shield what the issue was and they issued a ticket back to J&J Mechanical. The rep called me back within 30 minutes. She said she got the ticket and set up with somebody to come out. They came and took care of everything. The tech cleaned out the clogged part. Once that was done, I've had heat ever since. It's been great for me.

American Home Shield is good to have if you’re a homeowner, which I'm. If you don't have anyone in your family that does whatever the issue is at your house, you don't want to be stuck out here when it's getting ready to get cold and you don’t have any heat. Those guys with KG Appliance Repair are good. They know what they're doing. They're going on by the rules. They give you the right feedback or what needs to be done and try to work as much as they can with you. The fridge was already broken so there was nothing they could fix ‘cause the model’s really old. So far, with Home Shield, they haven't really resolved anything. We're now waiting and it's been two weeks without a fridge. We don't have anything so we're buying day by day. I'm not too happy. They should be able to at least give you the right information so you can make the right move for your family. I have little ones. I have a three-year-old daughter and I have a five-year-old. You can’t even have milk in the house because you don't have another fridge either. You're on your own and that's exactly the same thing that happened when my AC went off.

You have to be on it calling every other day. I was waiting because they said they were gonna replace them. I sent an email to confirm that I wanted the item but nobody ever took the time to reply and say, "We don't have the item available until next year, January 7th. We can give you a replacement card for 1,300 so you can go ahead and go buy it yourself.” They never reply until I call. That was on Friday when I called and they were finally able to tell me what was going on. I don't think somebody should have the coverage and they're waiting for an appliance to be replaced until next year.

Home Shield is not denying to help you but they're not making the right move to satisfy the customer. The option and the coverage is good. But they should really be on it not just us as customers calling. They don't give you the feedback. You have to be constantly calling and pushing and waiting an hour and a half. Sometimes, they're really rude too. They get an attitude like why am I calling so many times. If I could, I will change right away and go with another company. I've been getting emails but I don't want to because I'm still in the process and I don't like to be jumping from one company to another. I hear a lot of things that there are good companies out there but I'm trying to hang on and see what happens with Home Shield. Hopefully, they'll change.

There was actually nothing wrong with my washer. He said that I was just overdoing it. We picked it up and set it down and he looked at all the springs and everything was fine. He made two trips. He had to order the starter and then put it in. Everything has been good since they've come out.

When I first took American Home Shield out, my deductible was $45 years and years ago. Then it went up to 65 and I was given a notice so I was fine with it. Then when I took it out this time, they said 75. So I thought that was my contract but it was 109. I don't remember $109 being mentioned anywhere. So it's a $34 increase. They should have let me know about that. But that was the only thing they ever did that I did not like. But better to have somebody to come out and spend a little monthly something and then get it done if you have to have a replacement done for a minor amount of money.

I'm just on the telephone when I have to submit a claim. I don't have an internet connection. So, if I have anything to do like that, it goes back to my daughter and they email her. Express Heating's tech came and went outside first. Then he went up in the attic and come to find out it was a circuit breaker. That was something we should have checked and I would have saved a bit of money. But when you don't know, that's why you have people that do that type of work to be able to come out and assess what's wrong.

Then, I ordered the October pre-examination of the furnace. I've had their tech before when my furnace went out on me. He came out, fixed it, and he did good work.

My situation was resolved after a couple of extra visits by AHS's contractor. American Home Shield throws out bids and who ever comes back as the least expensive contractor is the one that is picked. AHS should pull a little more quality. Still, I would recommend AHS. The service is good enough. In the end, the work gets done and for 75 bucks every time they come out. I don't have to call them out a year later for the same issue.

They immediately put me in contact with Robson Appliances and then the service guy came out here to fix the dishwasher. He was very professional and he was wearing a mask. The dishwasher has been doing well since the repair. The only thing that bothered me with AHS was that I had two repair calls last year and they raised my rate. Other than that, the service itself is excellent. I'm glad I have it and I would definitely recommend it.

The tech came out, diagnosed the issue, and submitted the paperwork to American Home Shield. Within a day, AC Man came back out with the motor, the blower and everything that was needed to do the repairs. When I submit a claim online, it takes me about three minutes to do before they scheduled someone to come out and have a look at the issue. But American Home Shield should change the 30 day wait period from the time you sign up till the time you can make your first claim.

The suppliers that American Home Shield is using take too long to get out here. It's not usually the next day or so. It's sometimes four or five, six days. Then they have to order a part, that's another five days, and they have to schedule, come out and do it. We're not happy with the two suppliers that were supplied. The Runyon put in a new icemaker last Monday or Tuesday and it didn't work. We scheduled to come out Saturday afternoon, so it's another five days. We're not happy with that. If that doesn't work, they'll have to order another new one. So, we're still not making ice.

Then one supplier did a great job with the water heater, but they took a long time. They had the unit but they didn't have the crew. We had to wait for a week before they had a crew. I offered to pay extra for overtime on weekend and they couldn't accept that because nobody wanted to work overtime. I guess everybody's doing pretty well in the pandemic. American Home Shield is getting the order out and answering the phone. Their suppliers are the problem. I would look around for two better ones.

One of the things that I like about American Home Shield is they cover quite a bit. They cover the major things that you need in your house and that you use on a daily basis. They cover plumbing, electric and all major appliance. They fixed my oven twice. The third time, I didn't want it fixed, I wanted to replace it. They gave me a check for 290 something dollars, whatever it cost to get it fixed, and I put that towards a new oven. They repaired my refrigerator twice. I did get a washer out of them comparable to what I had so they had paid off.

They keep going up on their fee but that’s understandable ‘cause everything costs and everything goes up. But for any home coverage, there’s gonna be a catch-22 especially when you deal with old houses. I had a hot water tank replaced. They covered it. However, because it’s an aged hot water tank, I had to put out a hundred something dollars. I also don’t use American Home Shield for the check-up ‘cause they charge 75 and I found somebody doing it for $65.

I have a claim that is still pending. The guy was being polite and courteous at first. He said he couldn’t open up my wall because of the age of my house and what’s behind the wall. His company would charge me between 195 to 295 just to cut a hole in the wall so I got somebody to open up the wall like he said. My nephew came and opened the wall, and he only charged me $50. Then they were saying that they wanted the wall opened two feet higher. This is an old house and I know that there are gonna be problems ‘cause I got galvanized pipes. I don’t think that the opening in that wall needs to go any higher than what it already is. They said they can’t come back out until I show proof that the wall has been opened two feet above what’s already been opened.

I was asking for a second opinion and American Home Shield did send out one who was saying the ceiling may be opened ‘cause we might not fix the problem if we don’t know what’s going on in the ceiling. He was also saying the opening needs to be lower which kind of makes sense to me more so. But right now, everybody agrees it’s the hot water thing that’s under the bathroom that’s leaking. We don’t know about anything else that’s going on in the wall. The second plumber came two days ago. I called this morning and he submitted his report which is under review. They got 48 hours. If the second plumber agrees with the first plumber, it will cost me additional $75. If the second plumber does not agree with them, it would be free. July 10th was when Mayes came out. The problem is only getting worse and the wood is building up in the ceiling ‘cause I don’t want to do something and they’re gonna say I did something. I’m waiting for American Home Shield to make a decision and roll.

This is my second claim and the first time going back and forth and I’m not agreeing with the person that made the decision. The first time was my furnace. I had to go back and forth but the same people kept coming out until they found the problem. I understand that sometimes you don’t know what the problem is and you got to fix one then you find something else. It did not cost me any additional money and I’m okay with that.

I needed a rekey and the first call I received from AHS was from a very helpful rep. She was an excellent person and she gave me a number to call directly because I didn’t want to pay the $75 over the phone. Then, I called somebody else and that person, instead of saying six rekeys, told me three. But I told him that I already talked to someone there and she told me six. They were only rekeying. They told me they were gonna change the locks because I didn't know they were just gonna do keys. So, they told me no, they're gonna change our locks, whatever we wanna change. They didn't tell me just the outside door. He went to investigate, then he came back and said that I was correct. But when I met the guy from Pop-A-Lock, he was very helpful. He provided excellent service and I was very happy with them.

But AHS kind of didn't know what they were talking about when there are questions about the homeowners warranty. When you talk to one person, he tells you one thing and when you talk to the other person, he tells you a different story. So, I would like for them to know what the coverages are. Other than that, once we set up the appointment, I didn't have any problem.

I had issue with microwave so placed in complaint and was promised to receive a call within 24 hrs from technician to investigate the issue and service. 24 hrs gone no response so dialed in again then was asked for another 24 hrs and again no response. Finally after several attempts I was told the technician will visit in 4 days. But none showed up and then I was told to have the different contractor assigned to service it. This time they showed up and found some parts needs to be replaced and the parts were ordered and again waited for more than a week to get the parts delivered to the contractor but luck was not at my side and they found the parts will not work and microwave needs to be replaced and I shall be getting a call from AHS on the next steps. But they closed the request without any resolution and never bothered to call and provide an update.

After waiting for the call for next 2 days I found this the request has been closed and placing a request again to do some diagnosis. Requested for escalations and was supposed to receive a call back with complete update/schedule on the next steps and time when it'll be serviced but nothing seems to be moving at all. It's a month since I placed the complaint but nothing has changed and have called them more than 20-30 times and still hoping to get it fixed. As far as money is concerned they charge you for every issue you raised and on the very first day but never guarantee if the service will be done or not. Totally frustrated and thinking about changing the company to get some reliable service but for that I have to wait to my current contract get over. Luckily it wasn't any major appliance that I can't live with otherwise god knows.

The plumbing issue happened at 9:00 and by the time I called my warranty company, it was about 9:30. Then the plumber arrived at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. So, they came out really expeditiously. The guy did a really good job and he was quick about it. He had a mask on and we social-distanced as much as we could while discussing the issue. I was very pleased all-around.

I've had them American Home Shield for two years and it's much better than the previous company I had before. Home Shield is probably more expensive, but it's worth it to me because I feel much more comfortable with them than my previous company. American Home Shield's customer service is better too. I had a couple of services this week and the last one was for my refrigerator. The people who were assigned couldn't get out until next week, so I called back and asked if they could find someone else. They assigned the claim to another person. A guy called me late in the evening and he came this morning and he was nice and professional.

There was a weather forecast on Saturday that it would be raining in the late afternoon. The tech came in earlier than that late afternoon and he fixed it. But there was a delay between American Home Shield's approval and the agents taking into action. I had my claim for a heater submitted back in September the 3rd. A contractor came to check it out, but it hasn't got repaired yet. I've been calling about it every day. They didn't get back to me. I called them. It's a back-and-forth situation thing. They sent one person out. They said some stuff that wasn't true like it was a current condition. I said, “No, it wasn't. It’s the first time it happened. And once it happened, I called.” Plus the gentleman was saying that water was leaking down on our thing that caused it, and it could be a fire hazard. That's not true.

I asked American Home Shield to send a second opinion. They sent a second opinion out, and he said, “No, that's not true, what he’s saying.” The way the gentlemen has it now, it can cause my house to catch on fire. I've been waiting on them. I'm gonna call them back today because I've been waiting on them. I don't have heat. It’s getting cold. It’s supposed to be in the 30s. The other night, it was really cold. I have a litter in my car keeping warm because it was so cold in my mobile home.

The second opinion person said that they need to call the first person back out to put it back like it was, and then they can fix it. They won't touch it. It’s really a headache. I told American Home Shield that they need to find somebody that can come out that will do it and be through with it. This is my very first claim to American Home Shield. I'm having second opinions. I'm very dissatisfied because I shouldn't have to call them. They should have called me. I called the first person they sent out, and they said that the claim was denied. American Home Shield didn't even call me back and said it was denied. At first, I had to call and find out. Then, I had to ask them to send out a second opinion.

Since my stuff has not got fixed, I would tell others the whole story. I’d say, “Look, this is what I went through with them, so you might need to consider. And if you do get a warranty with them and they send somebody out, don’t let that person touch your heater or touch whatever the repair is, until they call them right there, while you’re there, on the phone, and see if they're gonna fix it before they mix something up.”

I'm almost to the process of getting me a lawyer involved. I got disabled people and elderly people in my home. I'm disabled myself. Nobody volunteered to say, “Hey, it's cold. I'm gonna put y’all in a motel room,” or, “You go get a room and we reimburse you.” Nobody was saying any of that stuff. With this virus stuff, we’re stuck in a cold house. They're taking money out of my account, but my issue is not getting solved.

But this last repair I had was taken care of the same day.

I'm a Real Estate agent. I do a lot of business with Old Republic and Fidelity. However, I just moved and knew, from word-of-mouth, that American Home Shield would do a little bit better in coverage. I figured I would try i, and it seems to be working out okay so far. I am impressed with the service I've been getting from them. So far, so good. I had a claim on my freezer and it is now working completely, and so, I'm happy. The tech from GE Appliances was very knowledgeable. He knew what he was talking about. The process of doing a claim was easy. I just called in, and the response time was fairly good too. The only response time that took a little bit longer was when I had my spa looked at. Unfortunately, the spa guy was on vacation, but he made up for it. He was definitely very helpful. He was great.

I have my American Home Shield service contract so that if I need service, I can call them and they would solve my problems. If I have to pay extra for a service like for when my claim is not covered, I would pay. However, if I call them and they tell me "We cannot help you", then I don't need AHS. I explained that to the lady rep who took my phone call. While it was easy to make the call, AHS never sent a contractor. So, I called an independent contractor to solve my problem and canceled my contract with AHS.

The display was not working for my oven. So, when I had put the claim saying that the display is not working, Brandon from SNS Appliance Repair tried to put in a request for a replacement of the part, and there was no part available. I got an email from American Home Shield saying that they would replace the oven for me. I was given a link to select the oven, and I did. Then, they said Mr. Appliance would be installing it, and there was some other company who would deliver it. They delivered it, then Mr. Appliance came and installed it. They were really good and very professional. They came, they cleaned up and did pretty good work. American Home Shield has been great. My only concern is that they don't allow doing it electronically. I had to be on the phone for three and a half hours, which is something I don't understand how on earth anybody has that time. Other than that, once I get somebody on the phone, everything is really great.

Then when the technician came out, he figured out that it was the ice maker that was broken. So, it was replaced. The garage's tension spring was broken and the garage was not opening or closing. They replaced that too and it's fixed. The technicians were very professional and were on time when they showed up. Everything is working great now. American Home Shield is a pretty good company. He wasn't here very long either each time. I didn't call American Home Shield this time. I just called Johnson's Plumbing and they're out here fixing it. AHS needs to evaluate better. We had a younger guy. Maybe there's an older gentleman who's with the company that would have more experience.

All of our outlets on a kitchen island, including the one our oven is plugged into, stopped working. The guy solved the issue. It had to do with one of the outlets. The wires were packed in there pretty tight so it had shorted. For that claim, the guy was able to come out pretty quick. He called on a Monday and came out on a Tuesday. We've been dealing with an issue with our dishwasher and when I first called on a Monday, American Home Shield wasn't able to send anybody till Saturday. The person came out and decided we needed a part. The part has been ordered and it was supposed to be three to five days. But it's now Friday and I don't think the part has come in yet. They haven't called to schedule a follow up so our dishwasher is still not working.

The website is easy to work with and everybody's been polite and professional. I’ve been submitting the form online then someone calls me the next day to schedule the appointment. That works fairly well for me. But I don't know the difference with getting the dishwasher scheduled versus the electrician scheduled. I would prefer if someone can come sooner than a week.

    Reviewed Nov. 7, 2020

I'm concerned about the communication with American Home Shield and the ability to get any information about the status of my claim. The original request was submitted for the furnace services. There are two types of furnace, the floor furnace and the air flow furnace. There was a confusion between those two. My first complaint with my furnace was more than six months ago. It was sent to Paramount and they sent the technician three times. Every time the technician came for the same furnace, he found there was a part with the furnace that was wrong, but never really fixed it. My frustration grew with them.

I asked American Home Shield to change that company for another one due to the fact that they did not complete the job. They always had to come back in a period of three to four weeks with same issue. Sometimes different problems, but it was the same original issue. There was no communication with the technician at all. He came in, did the job, and left. The guy was not friendly at all.

After my request for a new company, American Home Shield sent it to again to Paramount. When I got the call from Paramount again, I told them I asked for another company because I was not happy with the technician and the results. They got upset and they said that they requested me to be assigned to another company. That was when Northwest Sundance came in. The technician has been very communicative. He attended to the service. He found the issue and told me what it was.

A week later, the furnace stopped completely. I reset it. Then the technician came back on the 15th. We learned that the furnace had a major issue, and he needed to replace the whole furnace. From last week until today, I still don't have a furnace working and it's cold here. Every time that I call American Home Shield, it seems to me that they're confused about what type of furnaces and my order request for a replacement has not been processed yet. So they keep telling me that this is on the review panel or some type of preapproval or approval.

Every time that I call and ask to speak to somebody, they said, "You cannot speak to somebody." I have to explain to them the whole issue over and over. It was really frustrating to me that I cannot even communicate with their manager or somebody who can give me an answer about timing and how long would it take for me to have somebody to replace or fix my furnace. We have kids here and two nights ago, it was 32 degrees. It is cold and we need the furnace. It's really frustrating for me and my family to depend on American Home Shield to give me an answer to when we can have heat in our home. We have to all live with one little heater and the house is over 2,000 square footage. In the daytime, when my kids do their homework, we have to go downstairs with the heater. We have to be all in one room.

The washer had been leaking. We just had the garage repainted and everything was clean and sometimes, I'd get in there and it had water. I didn't know where it was coming from. I noticed that when my mama was washing, the hose was leaking outside. She would take out the clothes and it was still dripping. It wasn't spinning all the way. Then the dryer was taking an hour and a half to dry one or two pieces. So my mama said to call and tell American Home Shield. I did that and they said they'd have somebody come and check it out.

John Broussard Appliance Sales was sent out. He was on time and very nice. He changed the tubing at the hose that was broken. Something with the spinning wasn't working. Then he had to change the rim around the dryer door and something else. My mama asked him if we'd get a new one and he said no, and that we've got better than the new ones as the new ones don't last as long as ours. We have Maytag Gold and my mama washes just about every day. Then he said he had to order the parts and it should be in within five to seven days, but with the virus, things have been being backed up.

Before, I didn't know which one to go with. I looked at the other company and it said I'd get one month free and it was a little bit cheaper than this one. But then my cousin has used American Home Shield and it was no problem at all. I got them and I was really impressed. It was excellent. Except, somebody had called and they sounded like a foreigner. They said I had to put in a deposit of $150 or something. I was sleeping and I just said to go ahead and put it on my account. Then I called when I was fully awake and the lady said that nobody should have collected that. I told her that it was not on my bank statement 'cause I checked it. Overall, I was very satisfied with American Shield.

Our furnace had an issue and it was blowing out no hot air at all. It was convenient to put in a service request to AHS. I go online, log into my account, pay my 75 bucks and they have a contractor reach out to me to schedule a service. Paragon Mechanical LLC came and the techs fixed my issue quickly. That same night, the furnace went out again. They came out again and found that the circuit board had gone out for good. They had to order another one which will take 10 days if we're lucky. Then, they will schedule a time to come back and install it.

If I pick up the phone and call a furnace company, they bring all the parts and get my problem fixed the next day. But, I pay a lot for it. Overall, having a home warranty company is fantastic. I get a lot of protection. But I have to be prepared to wait a good while for service. I would highly recommend AHS if you have a backup plan for anything that breaks. Even though things get fixed with them, it takes a long time.

But I have a password book.

Recently, the techs from Sears came for our washing machine. The first person looked at it and ordered a part. The second person came back and installed the part. But the part didn't work and so I called back. The third person showed up, looked at it, and said that he needed a new part. The fourth person came in and installed the new part and it was a defective one. But I love the communication because it gives a huge window of about three to four hours when they're gonna be there. They always text or call when they're on their way so that we're not just sitting there for three to four hours. They were very nice. They came in and had a face mask. They wiped down the washing machine after they finished with it. They kept up with their stuff and they didn't excessively walk around and touch everything in the house.

I'm satisfied with the timing. There are no unexpected delays. They try to get a technician in within days and the technicians are knowledgeable. The only thing is American Home Shield should lower their price. That would be nice. But I know the company needs to make a profit because that’s what they’re in business for.

We have a three-door refrigerator and there's a clip that holds the door shut. The gasket on the top right-hand door broke. The technician who came ordered a pair of gaskets and he replaced the gasket that had broken. I kept the other gasket for the left door. We made a recent call because the clip on the left door gasket had broken. Usually, the first time the technician comes in is for troubleshooting and problem diagnostics. While he was here on the first visit, he took the gasket that I had and accomplished the fix. That was very much appreciated.

They tried to be helpful, but they didn't end up being very effective. I had to live with the problem resolution. I'm tired. So this time, I decided to hit it off before we ever got started. I did some checking on the service of both the contractor that was initially offered and the other one that was offered when I called back. They had a 1 and 1.8 from the Better Business Bureau. I wouldn’t accept either of those, so I called back to the home warranty company.

I asked for a list of potential contractors, so I can have the chance to vet them and then select one that's good. American Home Shield gave me a list of six and two of them had very good ratings. TSA was a local firm with a good rating, so I put the service call in with them. The technician did some troubleshooting and resolved the problem. He was very thorough.

After I got done taking a shower, I went and checked the hot water heater and the hot water in the kitchen wasn't coming out hot. I went out and checked that the thing wasn't burning. I called American Home Shield to do a claim, and it was quite easy. I was told to expect the contractor out in 24 to 48 hours. It’s a long time to do without hot water.

The contracting company sent me a text the morning of and talked the day before and the tech said he'd be here on this day between 12:00 and 4:00. When he he was here, we talked while he was doing the work. The issue ended up being a thermocouple. He took it apart, got in there and looked at it. In the old days, I could have lit the pilot light, but you can't do that anymore. He got in there and checked the pilot light and said, "The thermocouple is not working." He replaced it. It was good.

I get the feeling sometimes when I've made the services that American Home Shield doesn't have enough people on contract. When I made the call out, they said they'd be here in like 24 to 48 hours. They came out within 48 hours after the thing went out. This guy had other work to do too. When the air conditioning was going on, it constantly ran and it had like a puff sound to it. It just constantly ran and ran, and it did that for about two and a half days. That was when I submitted the claim to American Home Shield. When the technician came, it stopped doing it. He tested it off and on in different modes. Since then, it's been operating okay. The thermostat is functioning correctly.

I was very pleased with the service from American Home Shield and I would recommend it. There was one time I was dissatisfied last year. But that had nothing to do with American Home Shield. It was with the appliance guy. The website wasn't 100% clear as to what problem I was experiencing. It was with the refrigerator and the website said icemaker. I assumed it meant a refrigerator with an ice maker. So when the technician came out, he thought it was the icemaker that was the problem. I explained to him what happened, and the problem was the refrigerator motor. The compressor quit. I didn't know that was what the problem was.

We lost all our food, but that had nothing to do with American Home Shield. What happened was they checked it out and it took them a week to get back to tell me that they had an okay to repair it. Then the techs came and took the refrigerator and had to take the doors off of the refrigerator to get them out the main door. This refrigerator LG model with the doors on it, it's kind of wide. So when they took the doors off and they left, they had the darn refrigerator for like five weeks before we got it back.

I kept calling every three days, and they kept telling me that they're waiting for a part. I called a couple stores here in Tucson, and I said, "This is the type of model of refrigerator I have. Is there a backorder on compressors?" They said, "No." They got a couple in stock, in fact. So I kept calling the appliance store, and they kept telling me it was on backorder and all kinds of other excuses. Finally, we got it back. When they came back and they reassembled the door, the stainless steel door had a lot of dings in it now. I tried calling them and they never got back to me about it. But it was not American Home Shield's fault. I would call the 800-number, they in turn would call the contractor and then they were telling the representative the same thing they were telling me. It was a six-week drawn out process that was unbelievable. I wasn't happy with the technician.

The contractor called and set up an appointment. They came on time and fixed the problem for the water heater but I had to pay the shipping fee to bring the parts in to me. We still have one more issue that was supposed to be worked on. The contractor is going to come back in today to fix the problem. This thing happened to us on a Friday evening. We called in but nobody came in during the weekend. It would be nice if American Home Shield has contractors who work during the weekend and who can come and help us or at least come in, inspect and tell us what needs to be done. But overall, I'm fine with the way American Home Shield is working, the service provided and their response time. When we call in, we have a person at the other end very quickly and not keeping us on hold for a long time. Those things are really good for American Home Shield.

My most recent claim to American Home Shield is for the repair of my heater, and I'm still waiting on the refrigerator to be repaired. The refrigerator has been an ongoing project and it's taking forever. I am not happy about that because I don't have a refrigerator right now. This is weeks. The part came in last week, and the company that's doing it could not send their guy to my house until tomorrow from last week. So, when I first contracted with American Home Shield, I didn't realize that if I do have a problem, it's gonna take them possibly weeks to even get someone out and get a part. They're trying to tell me it's because of COVID, but it's taking forever.

The company they contracted with only has one guy that can do this job. So, he couldn't come until Friday. If I was doing it on my own without the warranty, I would just call the best company right in my area who would absolutely have done it before now. But because I have the warranty, I had to wait. I haven't had a lot of repairs. I've had this refrigerator stop working. Then, a couple days later, my heater stopped working. But that guy who came for it was fabulous. He fixed it yesterday and it's good to go. I do get a hold of American Home Shield, and they do email me right away. They are good. It's just that they have to contract people, and they need to figure out who they're using.

I called to submit a claim for my gas burner and it was all automated. The contractor that was sent out was great. He was the one that fixed my AC too. American Home Shield has been good. I canceled it once, because I thought that I had figured it out. And then I redid it. The automation said I’d get a refund and so I was able to even cancel it on the automation. That was kinda handy instead of having to navigate through a website.

Make sure you know what you're getting when signing up with AHS. They're good in some areas, but I ran in into stuff that they didn't want to cover. Recently, they sent out A-US Air Conditioning of Texas and they started the pilot light on the heater. They also checked the air conditioner. They didn't tell me what they were doing while they were doing it but it was a very quick thing. I've also got one claim that I'm still working on. It has to do with the water portion in my master bedroom and I had the claim since July. Then last week, the techs finally came in and I paid $1,500 dollars to replace some piping that American Shield wouldn't cover. It's not complete yet but it is not a problem.

I'm having a lot of problems with my refrigerator and I'm not understanding that. The refrigerator is 12 years old and every time someone comes and fixes it, something else would break, then another, then another. Technicians would re-patch the refrigerator up. I've been with American Home Shield for 12 years ever since I moved to my house. I don't even know why they didn't go ahead and give me a new refrigerator. But they have their own way of doing things. Otherwise, American Home Shield is okay. They sent out GM Appliance recently and they were excellent. They have great people that I'm working with.

My time with American Home Shield has not been great because it’s taken me hours on hold to try to get someone on the line. I’ve been back and forth between several different departments to try to resolve issues. When I’ve called to file claims, I've heard that something is covered. Then when I go to my policy and tell them what it says, it's, “Oh, yeah. Maybe it is covered.” My biggest issue when I started with them was with my water heater. I called in March and it wasn't resolved until three to four months later. The reason being is because when the contractor came out, they couldn't do anything so they went back. Then once they went back, American Home Shield said they needed to get the information from this third party vendor but they couldn't reach them for two months.

At that time, the pipe on the water heater was a black metal pipe. So that was dangerous and toxic. I was waiting for two months for them to get ahold of somebody to fix it but they never got ahold of them. Then they sent someone else out and they tried to charge me the $80 again. But I told them that the first person didn’t do anything so why are they charging me twice? Then they said I was right and that I shouldn’t be charged. So they took the charge off. It remained off for two weeks and then I got a bill for another $80. That went on for three months.

I was on the phone for hours and hours and they said they would have the manager call me but the manager never called. They would tell me, “Oh, yeah. I see the notes of the last person. So, this is what we have to do to fix it.” They go to do it and it gets fixed. Then something in the system flips it, and then I get charged again. So I would not recommend American Home Shield. But when I spoke to the representatives, they did the best that they could do. They stayed on the phone with me for hours trying to resolve the issue. But itt was never resolved. The only way I was able to fix my water heater was on my own. I found somebody else and we had to pay them out-of-pocket. I couldn't wait months and months and months with pipes that were poisonous for American Home Shield to fix it.

Every time one of my friends gets a house or even just does something with their house, I say, "Go to American Home Shield and start paying for a home warranty. They'll definitely help you." I also advise people to make sure that the warranty is gonna cover all the appliances that they want it to. In the very beginning, we made a mistake. We didn't have something covered, but then we fixed it and upgraded our plan to cover everything. If anything ever breaks, we don't have to worry about replacing it. We can just put in a ticket.

Every once in a while, there's a miscommunication between American Home Shield and who they contract out, but that's usually very fixable. We've never had any major problems. Submitting claims is a very simple and easy process, and I can normally get somebody scheduled to come out within a week to take a look. Recently, we had a problem with our dishwasher. The lights would come on, but it wouldn't start. The GE guy came, figured out what was wrong with it and ordered the part. As soon as it was delivered to our house, he came right back out and put the part in. Now, it's working.

Majority of our problems have been with our air conditioner and it has taken anywhere from three to five days to get someone out on each of those occasions, which is a long time to be without air conditioning. So, I find that a bit frustrating. But once someone gets out, the process has been fairly trouble-free. The rep from Advantage Refrigeration & Air was the best yet. I was able to call their office directly and get ahold of someone, which is almost impossible most places. They squeezed it in quickly and then, they repaired the AC the next day with a spare part they had on hand instead of waiting for the actual part to come in. So, that was wonderful.

How beneficial American Home Shield is depends on your needs. If you have an air conditioner that continues to have problems like ours does, it makes sense to have a home warranty company. But there are so many drawbacks for every pro such as waiting on hold for hours. AHS needs more customer service reps. But overall, we've had a good experience with American Home Shield.

I called the 800 number for my garbage disposal and we ended up with a couple of contractors. The first plumber came out within a week and they were in and out. They said there wasn't any power to the unit so it would need to go to an electrician, but then there was a breakdown. Nothing happened in three weeks and when I called that plumbing company back, they said they had put in a work order to American Home Shield for it to go to an electrician.

Either they did or they didn't, but something didn't go through and then I had to call American Home Shield again. They re-sent the plumber back out, so they could come out and say again that it needed an electrician, but then the process started working. An electrician came out a week later and did whatever they did. A few days after that, another plumber came out and replaced the garbage disposal. Now, it works. Once we've gotten past that initial blip, people were coming out quickly and there was no hassle. That part was easy.
