Rescue Your Air did a great job. They always do. They're one of the few contractors that I've dealt with through American Home Shield that contact me within a reasonable period of time. They show up when they say they're going to. I had an instance this summer where the home warranty company assigned the job to someone else, and I waited over a week. They did not contact me or return my calls. I ended up having to get my air conditioner fixed myself. I couldn't get back my $100 co-pay even though I was out out of pocket over $600 to get my air conditioner fixed because I couldn't get their contractor to come or return my call. I got a sour taste in my mouth over losing $100, plus the other $600 I was out, but most of the other experiences have been good. I haven't had that many claims, so I have American Home Shield like any other insurance. I have it in case I need it.

We had a leak in the tub. The water was going downstairs and we needed the faucets replaced in the bathtub. We also had issues with the toilet. They had to replace the panel below the toilet because it was making the toilet wobble when you sit on it. I just called Home Shield and told them what issue was. The contractor came the next day and they looked at everything. They had a few things that they did that particular day, but then they had to reschedule because what they had to do would take half the day. That was Friday that they came out. They were here for five hours. But they’re supposed to be here in the next 10 minutes because ring that's around the valve that they put on the bathtub is not tight. They will be back to tighten it up. Other than that, everything was fine.

Berger Plumbing came out right away and fixed the problem on my sump pump. Everything went pretty smoothly. This was the second claim I've had since moving in and both claims were handled well. I submitted the first one by phone and the second one online. The first time, I was on hold for a very long amount of time. During the second claim, they gave me a wait time estimate. They gave the option to call me back and not have me on hold which I thought was a really good improvement.

The claims process can be tedious when I do it online, and the company that AHS forwards the information to may not call in an expeditious manner so sometimes, that could be a problem. Sometimes I have to call the company back as opposed to them calling me. I don't know how AHS disseminates the information to the companies they're working with. If they say they're giving the information out, I have to take them on that face value until I know something's different. Then once the information's given out, I don't know how the company does or doesn't. But he did well.
I've had another incident recently where somebody came out for a plumbing issue and they really didn't know what was going on. The guy couldn't give me a definitive answer. And they didn't give me another answer until their company called me back. Then all of a sudden, I'm getting a call back about they wanna come back out and do some more service. The plumber didn't fix the issue. So, if they can't turn me onto an issue or tell me that I need to find a higher-level of help, then what's the purpose of the company coming out to tell me nothing, and pay them a deductible. I'm in the process of seeing if that's gonna be resolved. Recently, McGee Services was sent out for our breaker in the circuit that kept tripping in the garage. They replaced the socket and it's been working fine ever since.

Dremus Appliance came and did their job. It took a couple of weeks, but it was a matter of them getting the parts. As soon as the tech got the parts, he replaced it. I was very happy with that one. But we had an issue earlier with our refrigerator where the water filter has a leak and then they still haven't fixed our microwave, which goes back like six months. I've done several calls to renew some other policies that I have with American Home Shield, and I told them about these issues and they said they'll follow up, but no one gets back to me. They haven't been responsive at all. But their contractors were good as far as cleaning up. They didn't leave a mess. I've had Dremus come out for other service and they've been good.

I went online to file a furnace claim and that process was much easier. Usually, when I call, there's like a bit of a wait. But online, I can fill out a claim in two minutes. I opened the ticket in the afternoon. Within an hour, I received a call from the contractor saying that they would be out the following morning between 8:30 and 9:00. They got there probably about 8:45. It was an actual service repair. The upstairs heating was working fine. But when we turned the downstairs on, nothing happens and it was very cold. They explained what the issue was and replaced a part. Then within 10 minutes, we could tell that it kicked on, so that was fine. They were there for 45 minutes and had everything fixed.
The only issue that I've ever had with Home Shield, and I don't know if it's an issue, is that if we have an AC unit that goes out, it's usually two or three days before someone can come out, and then I'm able to get someone else to come out earlier than that. But we live in Texas, and it's usually right in the middle of summer, so I'm sure the contractors are very busy. If we could just get faster service in the summer on AC, then we would have no issues. I've had conversations with friends buying their first home to get Home Shield, just because if something happens, it's gonna be a lot more expensive if they don't have it than if they do.

A screw in the dishwasher needed to be tightened because that was interfering with the dishwasher door closing. We called American Home Shield when we submitted the claim and they let us know who was coming out. The contractor was very good and easy to talk to. He did the repairs very quickly. He had it fixed in less than 10 minutes. The last claim we had was the icemaker and everything worked. They replaced it and put the icemaker in and now, we have lots of ice again. The contractors come in a timely manner and they called us. The only thing that took a little long is when they order the parts. Sometimes, it takes over two weeks. But AHS is a good. We haven't had any problems with the company.

DFW Plumbing came for our plumbing claim. The guy was very professional and he explained everything. He had protective gear. One was an outside location and easy access to the bathroom he needed and so he was in and out as appropriate. As we would talk, he kept his distance as appropriate. American Home Shield has been beneficial, which is why we chose to renew. Moving into an older home, we had a couple of claims. When it came to peace of mind, we were able to use it so it was good.

Our hot water heater died. The element wiring shorted out so it was fried. Affordable Plumbing came out to look at it, thinking they might be able to fix it on Friday last week. Once they figured out that they needed a new one, they called the company and the company ordered the new one. But it wasn't ready for pickup until Sunday night. They tried to pick it up Monday and they tried to get out here. But I felt that they got caught in bridge traffic and it was going to be too long for them to actually drive out, put it in, and get back. We live quite rurally and we're an hour from pretty much anywhere. But we got it put in, it's working, and it's wonderful.
They were a great crew, amazing, very professional, and very courteous with the “ma’ams”. They kept in touch with me with what was going on and did a great job. They brought it up to code ‘cause it didn't have a pan to drain under it, in case it actually dies the way the other hot water heaters have died in my life which just turns into a dragon and then just water everywhere. Overall, American Home Shield is definitely worth it. It saved us hundreds of dollars.

The guy from GJC Electric came out right around the time I was expecting him to come and was here the next day. He was very knowledgeable and personable in talking. He was very thorough and checked the electrical panel, the wires, and everything like that, so he knew exactly what he was doing. He found out what the issue was and fixed it. I was very satisfied with the timeframe.

We've had American Home Shield for a long time. We moved in here in ‘96 and it was somewhere shortly after when my husband got it. One time, my heater wouldn't shut off, so I had to unplug it. My husband said, “Oh, I think it's the baseboard, but let’s leave it to the experts.” I called American Home Shield and spoke with an agent. They said the contractor would call me to schedule the appointment, and they called right away.
The first guy that came out on Friday just plugged my heater back up, pounded on it and it started running. He looked inside, tested it and said it was the baseboard. A lot of times, you have to wait a long time for the part, but it didn’t take them long to come out here. By that Monday morning, another guy came here with the part and he fixed it. It was good service, and my heater is working great.

I had back to back claims for the refrigerator and for the pool. The control panel on the refrigerator was broken and Accord Appliance handled it well. I was happy with it. Both the pool service and Accord were very busy so it took a little bit of time. Other than that, Home Shield seems to be pretty good.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

Right at the end when my dryer stops drying, it shuts off completely and there's a beeping sound. There's a code on the LCD saying “HE”. When I open up the dryer, it's scorching hot. I looked up the code. What's going on is something with the thermostat never transitions away from super-hot to a fluff. It's supposed to be slowly decreasing heat because of the model and the technology. But it doesn't do that. The clothes come out wrinkled. I called American Home Shield for a service request and they assigned Universal 1 Repair to me. The guy who came out was awesome.
At this time, we're waiting on AHS to approve parts. I called them back because they were supposed to get back to Universal when it was okay to purchase a part. I was confused. There was no follow-up. I don't think it's on Universal's part but it was more on AHS' side. When I looked at their email, it said the claim was completed which is not true. I go on the AHS site and it also shows everything is done. I talked to the contractor and they said it was AHS' system and I agree with them. It is very misleading. It's total garbage and it doesn't make sense. Time is precious to me and I wasted time twice yesterday calling them. I waited for 40 minutes. I was angry and I hung up.
It all comes down to the AHS portal that I'm logging on to to get updates and the people that I talked to. It gives me no status and doesn't give me enough information. It's lacking big time. I shouldn't have to call people in this day and age. I should just be able to look at a work order, type it in, and not see "complete" when I know very well it's not even near being complete. I'm not happy and I would not be recommending AHS.

On October 5, 2020, I filed a claim with AHS about my 7 year old Bryant furnace not working (Heating model #987MA66100V21A-B SERIAL # 1612A43819) installed in 2013. When an HVAC technician, B&W Tin Shop (563) 650-8333 or (309) 762-5419, AHS contracted with came out, he quickly discovered the problem with 1 part on the furnace that needs to be replaced. After 1 week, I still had not heard back from him, so I called him. He claimed the part was obsolete and no longer made by Bryant. I told him I looked up my model and part online and found it at DIY websites. I called around to Bryant reps locally who told me this was 100% incorrect, that he should know better and should know he can get the part at a local supply house. I called him back to share this with him. He went to a local supply house and found out they do indeed carry the part, but that he would have to get AHS to authorize the purchase.
When I called AHS to inquire as to when this would be authorized, they claim they are still waiting on him to call him. When I talk to him, he says he is waiting on them to authorize it and that it will take 10 days for the part to come in. When I call AHS to get a status update they tell me they cannot get ahold of the contractor and will email him and call me the next day, which they never do. When I call them I wait on hold for 40 minutes each time. When the rep comes on, she puts me on hold to "read my file", then a computer asks me to rate my service and disconnects me. This has happened 3 times so far. I cannot get a real person to actually help me and we are under a weather advisory that the temps will fall to 20F tonight.
I don't know what to do for my family and this company is clearly in the business of giving people the run around. All the reputable HVAC companies that's I've called around here say they won't work with AHS anymore because they won't pay and give everyone the run around. I see this is true. On 10/15/2020, 4:20 pm CST, after multiple calls and waiting on hold for 2 hours total, I finally got Maria on the phone (EE# **). She informed me that they ordered an inducer motor for my furnace and would ship it to B&W Tin Shop to install. She said they did not have an ETA on when it would arrive. On 10/15/2020, 4:23 pm CST, Todd ** with B&W Tin Shop returned my call let me know AHS would ship the inducer motor to my address and that when it comes in he will come out and install it if I call him.
10/29/2020 9:22 am I called for B & W Tinn Shop (Todd **) I called his Illinois number he has on file with AHS. No one has ever picked up at this number and the voicemail is full. I called his Iowa number and was immediately sent to voicemail. I left a detailed voicemail.. 10/29/2020 9:23 am After waiting on hold for 10 minutes I was able to speak with Jeff (EE ID# **) who also tried calling B&W Tin Shop. He said he also wasn’t able to get anyone on the phone. He said he would try again in 2 hours. He said he was escalating my case with AHS.
10/29/2020 4:41pm - 4:55pm Since Todd ** at B&W Tin Shop never returned my call and voicemail, I decided to call him repeatedly 12 times in a row until he finally picked up. When he picked up, I could hear a TV in the background. He wasn’t working, he was watching TV. I reminded him of his promise to install the part needed to repair my furnace the day it arrived. He asked me if it arrived. I told him AHS shipped it to him not me. He said he told AHS to ship it to me. He said until I get the part he cannot come and repair anything. He said it was a crazy situation, just a crazy situation.
10/29/2020 5:30pm After waiting on hold for 30 minutes I was once again disconnected. I called back and requested a returned call when someone could talk to me. 30 minutes later I received a call from AHS - Mercedes ** would not give me her Employee ID - she said she’s been advised not to give that information out. After checking, she said my case was not escalated by the last representative Jeff (EE ID# **). She promised she would do so. She also said she would call me back tomorrow. She said she is unable to see a tracking number for the part, but she did confirm that the part would be mailed to B&W Tin shop, not to me.

We have been a customer of AHS since December 2014. In the past six years, we have placed less than 10 service requests and only 3 or 4 requests have resulted in small repairs. Our annual contract payment started at $650 and currently we are paying $900 a year. I feel it is important to give this background. On 9/30/2020, a service request was made for our second floor A/C system, it was not cooling. A technician was sent on 10/05/2020 to check the A/C system. After checking the system, he said, "The refrigerant is low and we will have to come back to do a high-pressure leak search, but this needs an approval from AHS." Another technician came to do the pressure check on 10/09 and found a leak in the evaporator/case coil. He mentioned to me that since the system is very old and it uses old/R-22 refrigerant, he will be recommending replacing the system.
I got an email from AHS on 10/12/2020 around 10:30 AM stating that “There are limitations associated with approving your AIR CONDITIONING for dispatch under your American Home Shield home service contract at. Please call 833.603.0586 to learn more.” This email did not provide any other details. I called the number and the customer service person told me that I needed a new coil and the cost will be approx. $1200. I was very surprised to hear that, so I asked why? To that, she just pointed to Section E in the contract. I mentioned what technician had said about replacing the system, but she just pointed again to the contract section. I asked to speak with a supervisor. She said no one is available, but someone will call me back. I got a call back that night (I think around 10:30 PM) and I was already a half sleep. When I answered, the caller realized that it was late, and said, "I will call you back tomorrow during business hours."
The next day (10/13/20), no one called so I called AHS in the afternoon. I explained what happened yesterday and said I would like to speak with the supervisor who had called last night. She told me that she will transfer me to a supervisor so please hold. After about 20 minutes or so, the phone was disconnected and no one called back. The next day on October 14th I called AHS again. Please note that every time I call, I have to wait from 20 to 50 minutes then repeat everything. Very time consuming and frustrating. This is totally unacceptable. This time, I spent over an hour and half on the phone! I discussed why I was calling and asked why I can’t speak with a supervisor. I mentioned what the technician had said about replacing the system. He said in our system it says to just replace the coil.
I asked for a copy of the report submitted by the technician and he told me that he does not have access, but he will email the department to send a copy. I still have not received a copy from AHS. I got a copy of the report from the HVAC company. Their service inspection report says, “Found upstairs AC was out of refrigerant, Nitrogen tested for leak search and found leak in evap/case coil. System is 21 years old, case coil access is on back side of furnace so replacing coil would be difficult due to limited space. Recommended replacing system.” I offered to email a copy of this report, but the rep would not provide an email address to send the report to. He said when I get a copy of our report, it will provide an email address and I can send it to that email. He would also not provide a direct number for supervisor.
I still have not received a copy of the determination report or any detailed information on the repair cost. I don’t understand why they are so secretive and not transparent. On 10/26/2020, a technician from a different company came (2nd opinion) and he diagnosed the same problem. I have not heard anything from AHS about this either. Bottom line, please be aware of this company before you do any business with them. Their customer service is terrible, non-transparent, and they have put in a shield, like their motto, to protect just their interest. They will not do the right thing and just opt for what works for them. In spite of clear recommendation from the technician to replace the system, they just want to replace the coil on a 21 years old system and charge me $1200 for the repair.
Their own website article (https://www.ahs.com/home-matters/repair-maintenance/is-it-time-to-upgrade-your-ac/) states that “The age of your unit is the most important factor in deciding whether or not to replace it. A majority of HVAC technicians recommend replacing your AC if it’s 15 years or older. …“, but they will ignore this to save money and not value a long time customer. I asked the HVAC company about the condition of the compressor and heat exchanger. They said they don’t know if there is any issue with them, and they cannot guarantee that the compressor will work since they cannot test it without the refrigerant.
I am being asked to pay $1200 when there is no guarantee and the other components could go bad in a short period of time. Currently, the R-22 refrigerant cost is $110 per pound and if the compressor does not work or goes bad, all that money (mine and AHS) would be wasted. It has been almost a month and I have not received a call to discuss the issue. When I compared this experience with my regular home insurance company, needless to say it has been a very frustrating and helpless one!
UPDATE: 11/11/2020 I would like to provide an update since I wrote the review on 10/29/2020. AHS posted a response to my review on 10/30 with a standard PR response. I received an email from one of the social media specialists at AHS on 11/03 asking for a good day and time to contact me. I provided the information on 11/04. The specialist called on 11/09. It took almost 10 days to get someone to call me, what a noteworthy and great customer service!
During the call, I went over all the details about the service calls. She listened and then we started conversation about the issue, it was a long conversation. She said that AHS will always try to repair the system irrespective of the age of the HVAC since it could get 3 to 5 more years out of it. When I asked what about the technician’s recommendation? She said they have reported which states that the system can be repaired and the technician cannot override the repair decision. I mentioned to her that the report I have does not say it can be repaired, it recommends replacing the system so it looks like AHS is overriding the technician’s recommendation. She repeated the same thing again that their report states that the system can be repaired and that is what AHS is going to do. I requested her to send me a copy of their report since it did not match with the copy I got from the HVAC company (I had attached the technician’s note on 10/29). She said we cannot send you a copy of this report and cannot give me a reason why. She would also not give a phone number for me to call her back. There is a lack of transparency and customer service when dealing with AHS. My trust meter with AHS has reached bottom so I cannot trust them.
After some back and forth, she said since you are refusing the repair, we can offer you a cash out option. The option will not pay for the entire system. It will only pay what it would cost them to repair the system. She could not tell me the amount. Once again, you have to wait to get an answer. There have been many reviews regarding AHS not reimbursing people after they got the work done. So I am afraid that this is their way to get you off and not pay. I am still waiting to hear back from AHS on the cash out option as well as a call from the second opinion vendor regarding repairing the system. I would highly recommend to not buy a contract from AHS and save your money.

My experience with this company has been awful. I have an electrical panel box that has loose breakers and something burned inside it. I had a friend look at it who is a licensed master electrician and told me to call my home warranty company and they will replace it. I had 2 technicians sent by American Home Shield for 1st and 2nd opinions what was wrong with it. I was told there was water possibly entering from outside but the 3 electricians including my friend who are all licensed master electricians say that's not the case and there's no water entering the box. They won't make any repair because of an exclusion in the contract with water coming inside.
At one point they actually told me the work had been authorized and they were reaching out to the contractor to replace it. I heard nothing from anybody and I had to call them many times to find out what was going on. This took place over 2 months time. Now they flat out refuse to replace it at all even though they had authorized it before. To be fair I was willing to make any repairs (for a problem that there was no evidence of.) And they could replace the panel box, which normally they will do. But doing that was not an option. I couldn't get a third opinion either by my own electrician of my choosing. I was told on the phone my work had been greenlighted at some point and now they won't do anything even after I was told the work was authorized. There's no one to take your dispute or who will listen to you. I do not recommend this home warranty.
Are you still in need of assistance?

The simple math is: $51/monthly Premium + $100deductible per service call = $712 per year (Minimum) + being at the mercy of a fraud company that takes your money without providing a promised service. Today is the 8th day since I’ve placed a service call to unclog a stoppage in the utility room sink and the issue has yet to be resolved. The plumber that showed up couldn’t complete the job because he don’t have the right tools. The plumber is not answering and AHS is refusing to send out another plumber. I’ve wasted an hour each day this week trying to call AHS. Their customer service is incompetent and lazy.
I’ve had to repeat the entire problem over and over again instead of reading their notes and getting on Top of the issue and resolving it. AHS has failed for the second time this year to answer a service call in our home. They demand the deductible to be paid as I’m placing the service call but, as the broker, AHS never follows up with their contractor to make sure the job is completed.

I called regarding my water heater stopped working. I was assigned a business, to come out for the water heater, garbage disposal and a minor stoppage in a guest bathroom. The plumber they selected came out, said I needed a new water heater, and he wasn’t there for the other two items I requested. He said it would take 3-5 days to return and my husband said that wasn’t acceptable. He then said he’d call American Home Shield for a quicker approval, and should get a response in 30 minutes. He left, not leaving any paperwork, never called back, nor did anyone from his business or AHS.
I received an email from American Home Shield that ALL (3) items WAS completed. I called and was on hold for 1 hour and 54 minutes. I was then told that the plumber said 580.00 worth of (none covered) repairs was needed, and they (AHS) would cover the installation and water heater only. I asked for the pay out of the water heater and I would have another plumber come over to evaluate and handle the install.
To my surprise, I was told it could take up to 2 days for them to provide me with the amount they would pay out for a water heater. I explained that this can’t be a first for them and that cost should be readily available to provide. To say the least, I am not confident I will hear from them and will have to call and be subject to a nearly 2 hour hold. This all sounds like a rip off/scam by both AHS and the businesses they contract with. How does a multi million dollar home warranty company not know (for up to 2 days) how much a 40 gallon residential water heater pay out is. I think all of this I have gone through is their attempt to make it so difficult that the consumer gives up. This is SO WRONG.

I had a toilet flushing problem, so I've requested a service to fix it and AHS assigns some contractor for it. When the technician came to my home, he didn`t identify the problem and report his company it works well. I've called AHS to change the contractor because looks like they are very unprofessional. AHS rejected it, so I've submitted a follow-up service request for it and asked the contractor to send another technician. New guys seem okay and try to fix the problem. After he checked a few things then he said he need to snake the drain which does not cover by insurance. After that guy come back, I've called another local plumbing company and some guy come to my home and fixed the problem within 20 mins. That was a toilet problem and some root was blocking the toilet. They've charged $150.
I've contacted AHS and ask them to whether refund the service what AHS charge or reimburse the money how much the technician charged because it was a toilet problem and it should cover by insurance, but they rejected both. Whose fault is assigning an unprofessional contractor and why I have to waste time and pay extra money? I want to give them 0 stars if I can give and I never recommend this company to others.

The guy kept me informed throughout the process. He explained to me what he thought the problem was which was a blockage by the drain. He tested and it was still going slow. He spent a good deal of time here. He ran a snake down there and he got so far and couldn't go any further. I’m frustrated that it took three days and I couldn't do my laundry. Then they told me that there's no cleanout and it's not covered which I don't know that there isn’t. It was also outside the foundation. I'm a little aggravated. If it had been a stopped up drain, it wouldn't be a big deal. But it's a little more than that so I feel like it's kind of misleading. I provided the house I sold an American Home Shield policy but that was because the buyers see it as a plus. But every time I’ve tried to use it, there was some little thing that made it not a covered item. It's time consuming.

Sewer Medic came out for our plumbing issue. He went up into the attic, and then he said something about he was gonna have someone else to come back out here and flush the AC drip line in the attic but no one has come. But he was very nice and very helpful. In the beginning, it was awful with AHS. I had called AHS because we were having a problem with our refrigerator and stove. They said I wasn't in the system. I was like, "I know that my home came with the warranty." But what happened was the person that put in the information put in the wrong address. Then I finally got through to someone in retention and he corrected it.
But then when I was calling back to try to speak with someone, I was on hold for a long time, at least an hour trying to get to someone. Then the gentleman came out on the site and looked at the stove. It needed to be replaced. He didn't look at the refrigerator. So, I thought that he did. Then we had to send them back out, so he came back out. He had to order the parts and they're coming this morning.

I had a clogged main drain pipe. I had worked on it for weeks. I couldn't figure it out. Time for a professional to step in. The contractors that AHS sent came out, pulled the plug on the mainline. They back snaked it, cleaned it all out and got it going again. My only complaint with AHS is that stupid call center they use. I hate talking to those people 'cause they don't know anything. They read off of a script and they don't understand very well. They don't understand English phrases. There's definitely a communication breakdown.
It's like when I call to get an answer to a question, these people just read the same thing over and over. Because it's like, "This is what happened." I was like, "I'm telling you, that's not what has happened." So I need to get an answer to a question and it just goes back to the scripture. Then I just end up hanging up the phone and think about quitting. But the contractors have been 100% professional. They walked me through the whole step verbally from a distance, 'cause of the whole COVID thing. I went down afterwards. There weren't even drops of water on the floor. So whatever they did, they kept it very contained, very clean and it was very appreciated on my end.

That was lovely. After I got the email, the gentleman came about an hour later which was the time estimate. They said he’d be here between 11:00 and 3:00 and he came around 12. He was very good and very efficient. He put on his little walk around the house slippers. He checked out the situation with the running toilets, said what he was gonna do, did it and left. He corrected the issue and I don’t think he was here an hour. It was a very nice experience. I'd recommend American Home Shield. They handled the situation and it was cost effective. We couldn't turn off one of our single-arm faucets in the kitchen. It was dripping. So we contacted American Home Shield and they brought in the Safe Cali Plumbing. They contacted me within the first 20 minutes of me putting in the call and then they were here within the hour and fixed it. They found out that there was a piece missing. The piece had worn down. So he said he was gonna have to come back and reschedule it next week. Then he came back about five minutes later and he said he had time and that he was gonna go to the plumbing store around the corner and see if he could get that part. If it didn't work, then they would need a new faucet for me. He came back and the new part worked. In all of my years of American Home Shield, I have never had this type of experience within an hour and a half of the phone call that it was completely fixed. It was pretty awesome. The tech kinda went above and beyond.
The only thing I don't like with American Home Shield is that I didn't know they had gone up to $100. It's getting really close now to us just calling the provider ourselves for a consultation. So I hope they don't go any higher. I would love it if they went back down a little bit. I'm one of those customers that pays this big upfront fee, but never use them. The rate is getting kind of high at this point to make it really worth it.

The furnace needed a repair. American Home Shield gives you a phone number and I called them early in the morning because they have 24/7 access. They handled this very quickly. I called at 8:20 and their message said there was a 10-minute wait, then they were pretty close to the 10-minute wait. So, close to 8:30, I was able to speak to somebody and I told them what the issue was. I had not filed a claim with American Home Shield before, so I wasn't sure how it worked. They told me that it would cost me $75. Then, a company by the name of Platinum Heating & Air Conditioning would call me. But I was more than welcome to call them. And since it was a repair and it wasn't not functioning, they asked for 24 hours for the repair to be done.
So, at 8:40, I got off the phone call and I called Platinum Heating & Air Conditioning. There must be some communication app of sort between American Home Shield and Platinum because they knew who I was. I had happened to be working remotely that day, so they came out that day and assessed the furnace Through the app with American Home Shield, you can see the timeline of what's going on and in my case, they said that they would be out between 3:00 and 5:00 PM. I received a text message at 3:30 that said they were preparing to work on my order, then they were en route and were there a little bit before 3:00. They couldn't repair it that day but they fixed it as best that they could so that we could have heat for at least a couple of days. They also explained some of the issues. Then, it was repaired that Friday. It was very quick and very transparent.
All in all, AHS is worth the $700 to get, especially if some of your appliances are kind of in a crapshoot. We paid it last year but we didn't use it. We paid it this year and got our money's worth out of it. So, it's just that risk that you wish to take. But it was very nice and I would highly recommend it. Especially if you don't have a savings account or something you built up where you can pay cash for these things, that $700 is really nothing. I had a friend that had an air conditioning issue during the height of summer here in the desert. She said she couldn't believe that they fixed it and it was only $75. It broke again and they fixed it again. Then, the third time, they replaced it.

The tub was leaking into the utility room and the ceiling was damaged but that’s gonna be fixed. Everything was good with the plumbing. The guys were nice and courteous, and did a good job. They were here for probably an hour and a half. We have no issues so far and it’s great. But my experiences with American Home Shield have not been too good. Even though I called them about the plumbing because it is expensive. And I have the service that my Realtor paid for, so I should be able to use it. But the warranty company is not good. I don't like that it takes you so long to get somebody on the line.
I've had to call them a couple of times about the air conditioning. The guy from the first company they gave me never called me nor responded to my messages or text. So, I called AHS and told them that. They gave me somebody else who was supposed to show up at a certain time but they didn’t come until later. They came at the very last minute of the day. It was at 7 o'clock at night and when they came, they were in a rush. They were not prepared and didn’t have any tools with them. They said what they thought it was and told me to try something, and to call them if I had a problem. We knew what they said wasn't right. So, I never called back but I called American Home Shield. I told them I wanted my $75 back because the contractor didn't do anything. I got my money back but it took about 20 days.
The issue on the air conditioning is still not resolved. I didn't call anybody else. AHS doesn’t give you a choice who you get and I like to look up the companies before I agree to one. Everybody that they have in their list are not around here. I have talked to other people who have the service as well and they have the same problems. I’m not gonna say that the companies that work with them are second grade. The guys who came out here cleaned up and I was happy with them. But who they send you or who they give you to pick from are not even around here. I'm in Hanover and the contractor was probably an hour away. I asked to speak to management a couple of times and they told me somebody will call me. No one ever did. My warranty is up with AHS in January but I wouldn't renew it.

The most recent claim was my icemaker went out on the freezer in the kitchen. The repairman was late by a couple hours every time he came. He was kind of a good old boy. But when I the plumber, I explained to him what was going on three times on the phone. Then he got there and I had to re-explain it again. Then two weeks later, he had the part and he was ready to fix it. I really liked it when we could go in and pick our person but that seems to have gone away.
When I spoke with the customer service reps, they would drive me back towards the website. They were not really wanting to take phone calls. Also, I wish American Home Shield wouldn't cover the bottom of the barrel. If they’re gonna replace my Explorer with a 2-door Pinto, it’s not quite the same. I’m not asking them to replace a Mercedes with a higher Mercedes, but when they're already middle of the road, they should at least cover the middle of the road stuff. But getting American Home Shield is a good idea as long as you know what you’re getting into.

When I bought a refrigerator from Craigslist, it was in pretty good shape. But within about a week or so, it had stopped cooling down and made all kinds of crazy noises. It had basically stopped functioning, for the most part. I called around to a bunch of other appliance stores. But the refrigerator model that I bought was too foreign for them and they didn't work on that type. Also, it was too much of an odd size. But I needed to have this one because the previous owners cut the length of the tile so only a certain fridge could fit in there. I had to keep it so it was very important to have it fixed.
A tech with Active Appliance came and he was great. He was very polite. He didn't say too much because he spoke Russian but I kinda got what he was asking from me and what I could do to help him. If there was ever an issue, we got on our phones and we translated to one another. The translate app was really helpful. There was a lot to get in and the second time the tech came, he was able to get in on his own. That was kind of a resourceful thing that I appreciated. I don't get good service here so I was glad he was able to make his way in here.
He didn't take too long. He worked quietly and in the end, he gave me a very short but a concrete list of instructions for when he would come back. He was basically saying, "Do X, Y, and Z. And defrost 24 hours before I come back." By the time he came back, he had the right piece. He found the broken piece and put in the new piece that was gonna fix the fridge. Since then, it's been great.
90% of my interaction was with that one handyman that American Home Shield sent out. But as far as their support staff that helps out after 5:00 PM business time, they could be a bit tricky to work with. Some things can get lost in translation because they're Indian or Pakistani. But it's a very small thing. Originally, I had set up for one operator that wasn't gonna be able to help for a month and a half. I had to work with a girl to get in contact with that operator, to find out that it was gonna take a month and a half to cancel that then get resigned up with somebody else. It was a bit difficult to work with her because of the language gap. But eventually, she got it fixed and she found the right guy.
What I was previously gonna have to do was hire somebody to remove the refrigerator then go find a refrigerator that can fit in the space through a variety of different vendors, which was not gonna be easy. And while doing all of that, I would not have a refrigerator. Having Active Appliance come out here, fix the refrigerator, and be in and out, was such a huge lifesaver.

We had a claim for the dishwasher and the washing machine. We had both problems. The washing machine has been fixed numerous times. This time, it was okay with AHS. But there had been a time in the past that it was hot outside and they couldn't get anybody out here to fix the air. So, I've been with them for a few years, and I've had a few problems, but that was the worst problem. They would schedule the contractors, these people just wouldn't ever come, because they said that they weren't getting paid, so they didn't wanna come out. I said, “Well, that’s fine.” But AHS took care of it, though and sent someone out, but it was a while.
We've used AHS several times and we've had them for 11 years. They keep going up on us. But for the most part, they are okay. However, I can't understand half of what the people are saying when I call my claims in. That's an issue for me cause I'm old and I can't hear that well, so I really can't understand what they're saying. So, I submit my claims online.
After three times of something being broke, AHS needs to prepare to buy a new one. They lack in that department. I spend $100 four different times for them to work on the washer, ‘cause I had to pay a fee. It just doesn't seem right to me that I have to pay so much to get it workable, and then it tears up again six months later, and then they keep re-fixing it and re-fixing, sometimes, the same problem over and over. I had a hot water heater once, and they didn't disclose that it was gonna cost more money besides the fee that I had to pay upfront. If I could change with someone that I knew was legit and had been around a while, I probably would switch. But I don't know anybody.

I had a claim for my washing machine. At first, the Sears repairman came out and looked at it. But it was beyond what he could do. Then, Appliance 911 came and they made three visits. They realized that there was nothing to be done and they put in an order for a replacement. I got information back very quickly on it and I'm still waiting for the new washer to be delivered tomorrow. Overall, I was well-pleased with the way that my claim was handled, particularly the guys that worked with Appliance 911 repair service.
Other than that, I have the AHS app and when I go to the page, it's hard for me to track the the process or progress of the repairs. Once I submit a claim and it is assigned to a service person, I'd like to be able to go in and look to see where they are on it without having to call. This last claim took an extremely long time. I had four items that I needed them to look at and I filed my first claim on September 10th. But only one was completely finished, as of this past Monday. Hopefully, tomorrow the second one will be finished. And there are two that I still haven't found direct information as to how they're going to handle them. So it's been a very slow process and I have no way of tracking without calling them. It seems like I've been calling every week just to find out what the updates are and where they are on the repair for the other two items. But that's not always true. It's just with these items and the length of time has been disappointing.
But it's not like it's American Home Shield that I'm not satisfied with. This experience has been with the technicians and their timing. Each time I have reached out to American Home Shield, they have pretty much given me answers. For the first order, the part was on backorder and it took almost six weeks for it to come in. So there was a long delay for my air conditioner heating unit that I waited for. The oven was another claim and I still haven't gotten it resolved yet on whether it’s going to be repaired or replaced. But that one was also filed on September 10th and American Home Shield immediately assigned it to a company to work on. So it's within the company. They're not acting as quickly as I expected them to.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

I had water that was coming up out of the sewer hole in my laundry room. Water was coming up, like if I take a shower. When the tech came, he explained how the process was and he gave me the what-ifs. The only thing I didn’t like is that do the regular process first, and if that doesn’t work, then you can show me that it could be possibly X, Y, and Z. But don’t come telling me that something’s gonna cost me $3,000 for something that you didn't even try to do what you’re originally supposed to do.
When the contractor told me something, I called my dad and told the rep that I got somebody that he could talk to that was gonna understand what language he was speaking because he ain’t making no sense to me. So when my dad got on the phone, the tech explained it completely different. My dad asked if he tried to rod it first. He said, “No, I’m gonna do it. I just wanted to tell her the what-ifs if it doesn’t work or whatever.” I told him that he should at least try that first before he say if it doesn't work since that's gonna make me think like he was trying to take money from me versus doing what he was supposed to be doing.
After I got my dad on the line, it was a different conversation. The tech did what he was supposed to do and it worked. So what he was talking about in between that to get the $3,000 wasn't required. Then he stated that if he had to come back another date to do something else, then it was gonna cost me about $400, and that would have been outside of the $125 I was to pay for my fee, which American Home Shield wasn't gonna cover. It was a lot.
When I call American Home Shield when I have an issue, they get right on it. They send somebody out here. But they can't speak for the contractors and how they respond. They can only go off what the customer tells them and then they can reevaluate, like if that's a company that they want to have representing them. All the times that I had to call them all out here, the guys have been really amazing. But I’ve never had no one try to get additional money out of me outside of what the fee was supposed to be. Everything else was fine.

I had two refrigerators and my furnace all go at the same time. The refrigerator guy didn't call me before he came. He just kind of showed up and I thought he was supposed to call. He was very nice but having a phone call half an hour before he came would have been good. If you’re out and about, you can run home. The first refrigerator seems to be okay. He just finished the second one yesterday. It’s making a little bit of a noise but I don't know if it's a refrigerator noise or the noise of something that is hitting something and vibrating. But the main thing was for the water to come out of the machine and that seems to be working now.
The furnace guy did call half an hour before he came. He’s come three times. We had a leak and he changed the tubing. But we were having a funny noise so he came back and fixed that. Then the leak started up again so he came back and ended up having to replace the whole mechanism of the condensation thing. So far, so good.
Sometimes, it’s a pain ‘cause you have to have people come out so many times to try to fix something. If they really can’t fix it, they replace it. That takes time to have them come so you’re going without your appliance for so long or you keep having problems and keep having to call them back. I had a washer and dryer that they were trying to fix and the problem would not go away. They replaced every part on it that they possibly can but we still had a problem and I don't know what that problem was. My washer and dryer happened to go at the same time and both of them couldn't be fixed so they replaced both of them.
The only problem I have with American Home Shield is that sometimes it takes a long time to get somebody on the phone. Other than that, the process seems to be okay. If you've got a lot of appliances and because appliances are not made to last very long anymore, I would definitely do American Home Shield. I just told somebody about them yesterday.

The technician came out ‘cause he was in the area to look at it to get a general idea of what they would have to do. Then he came back two days later with the parts. He got it done within three hours and he did an excellent job. I have homeowners' insurance but American Home Shield is a good backup. But it's a higher deductible which is close to $500. So this covers between the 100 to 500 category. American Home Shield is usually right in there. I just have to put out $100 instead of 500. So it makes it a lot easier.

American Home Shield was good. When I had a pool pump that was going out, I went to the website, filled out the dropdowns and typed in the description of what was going on. There were a lot of bad reviews on the contractor that was selected so I was hesitant when the coordinator of the contractor called. I mentioned those poor reviews and asked if this was gonna be a problem. She indicated that was not and she proved that it wasn't.
However, they did take longer than it absolutely should. It took like a month for something that really should have been done in just a day or two. They had to order a pump. But, prior to doing the home warranty, I had gone down to my local pool supplies center and that was when I remembered that I had the warranty. This is a very common pump. They had this pump in stock. They had a ton of them. There was a lot of them around. Why it took a month? I don't know that I’ll fully understand or maybe I'm not supposed to understand it. It wasn't something that they had to order from Germany. It was right in town so that was weird. But despite how long it took, at the end of the day, they did what they said they were gonna do. It was a decent experience.

Loyalty Home Services came out for my kitchen faucet and my master bath shower. My faucet was leaking where it joins the counter. I opened the cabinet door under the sink and it was all full of water. I have a kind of hose that you pull out to spray the faucet with and that's where the leak was. The tech changed that out. They did a really good job and he was very courteous to me. I've had a stroke and I lose my words and interactions with me aren't always smooth. He was very patient with me. Also, he didn't try to sell me anything, which means so much to me. People are very apt to take advantage of me if they tend in that direction and it was very refreshing to deal with the guy. He was very professional.

SNL Appliance Repair came out for my Sub-Zero icemaker. It was spilling water everywhere into the bin and it was freezing all the ice that it was making. I did the claim online to American Home Shield and the contractor called me and told me tat they would be here Saturday. I was hoping they got here sooner but they were busy. But the technician was very professional and knew what he was doing. He was in and out within 20 minutes. With the COVID kicking off and all my kids are home, I needed ice. I was glad he came out when promised and fixed it right up because I needed that ice. He was awesome. Since then, the icemaker is very operational. It was worth the wait.

An appliance was making a banging noise every once in a while when it was turning off or on. I figured it might be the condenser going out. I pulled the back off and looked at it. I had just cleaned it a month or so before that so it still looked good. Everything looked good. It was making subtle sounds before but this time, it was like somebody dropped a water bottle from 10 feet up. I called Home Shield to have it looked at and I got a response right away. The tech from Nate's looked at it and he said he couldn't find anything wrong with it. I unplugged it and I let it sit there for about for a couple of days till he got there. When he plugged it back in, everything seemed to be going good.
He said sometimes when the heat goes in and out, it goes to two different sizes of tubes and sometimes that makes noise. The problem was not really a problem, according to him. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Also, he did a good job as far as he had a mask on and all that good stuff. It's been about a week or so since he came out and I haven't heard any noise since then. Paying $100 to have a guy come and tell me everything's good didn't really sit well with me. But it could have been different. And everything worked the way it’s supposed to. I'd tell others to go ahead and give Home Shield a try. 100 bucks is a pretty good deal at least for peace of mind.

We had a couple of contractors come out to work on our sewer line like Legacy 4 Plumbing and Affordable Leak Detection. We live on a slight deep grade down from west to east. We're on the east side and it slopes down. They ran a snake down there with a camera. There's a 90-degree angle there and it's clogged up or cracked. They said that they could only handle the interior of the house and that it was my responsibility to do it on my own from the house to the line where it's plugged up. I was surprised that the guy just said I'd have to do that and it would cost me $350 and he didn't suggest. He just did what he had to do, the toilet's flushing, and he left. I was unhappy with them. But Affordable Leak said they didn't do that outside the house to the sewer system and they recommended a company to do it. But they just didn’t call or let us know they won’t be coming out till this stops. We just got our fingers crossed that the toilets will continue to flush.
We also had our hot water heater go out. The contractor came out and they put a new one in that they ordered from AHS. Then, it stopped a couple days later. They came back out and had to relight the pilot light. We also had a problem with our air conditioning in which it was not draining properly. It was leaking all over and we just put in hardwood floors. The contractor finally came back out and did it again the proper way. But it seems like these people come out and just do a simple little look and don't do any diagnostic suggestions on what to do about it.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

I submitted multiple claims in the past with AHS. When I submit a claim, I go into the American Home Shield site and then my account comes up. Then I will pick what is it that I need to get done. Then I'll pay my deductible. Then they'll let me know which company is gonna contact me and within a 24-hour period, somebody from that company is gonna contact me to let me know when's the next availability that somebody will be able to come out. That person will give me a call, like a half-hour before they're gonna arrive and they'll text me too. So I like that. Then this person recently came and he was able to look at the previous fan that I have and was like, "This is not gonna make it for you." So he was able to replace it with a new fan. I was like, "Great." I was happy.
The person that came was on time. For the COVID thing, they put on plastic shoes. He had on his mask. So that way, we were all covered. 'Cause I also had kids in here at the time. He was very professional. I liked he was like, "You know it's not gonna be the same color as the fan. And you may need to pay a little bit." Because the fan that I had originally was a little bit bigger. So I was like, "That's fine. I'm not worried about that." I'm just glad that it was replaced.

Everything has been very satisfactory with the exception of the little misunderstanding. Also, dealing with the technician was excellent.
The experience with American Home Shield was exceptionally good. I always have a talk with the people who come out because I find that a lot of contractors and people don't live up to some of the things they're supposed to do. I explained to the plumber when he came out that I did not like doing business with people who said they would be here at 10 o'clock and then forgot to come and not call. Since everybody has a cell phone on their left hand, it should be easy to keep people informed on what's going on. And the people did. He was a very fine man. If I need anything done and I have problems not covered by AHS, I would call him and pay him directly.

More recently, my washer would fill up but it wouldn't wash. I called American Home Shield and the tech they sent was wonderful. When he left though, my washer would fill up with water, and then it would go back out. So, I called him back and he came right away. He fixed the hose and so far, things have been good. We had American Home Shield for four years before at our old house and then we bought a new house and we've had it for four months. The way that they choose providers seems wonky to me. When we lived in Los Angeles, California, it seemed like they would just choose a random supplier and a lot of times, those suppliers were 30 miles away from us. In Los Angeles, that's a three-hour drive, when I'm sure there were service providers closer. We just moved to Arkansas and it's same thing here. The provider seems random and wasn't the closest option.
At our old place, we called mostly about the hot water heater when it had issues. It was old. We had some issues with the furnace as well. We've purchased homes that have been nice, but a lot of the appliances have been a little on the old side. It's a reassurance that if something were to break, then we can go to American Home Shield, instead of having to replace something or pay for it out of pocket. It's usually less expensive to pay them to have someone to come out as well. One time, they had N W Air Care come out here and it went well. They fixed the problem.

I called for my refrigerator that had water in the bottom. I also called for my stove because I wasn't quite getting the heat that I needed coming out of it. I knew that something was off with the temperature. The man from Arizona Value Appliance came and checked every item in my refrigerator to make sure it wasn't broken. There was no leak. It must have been when I was cleaning the refrigerator, I noticed that there was water on the bottom. It never dawned on me it was because I was cleaning it. He even helped me put my shelves back in properly because I had one of them off-kilter trying to put it back after I washed it. On the stove, he took the whole back apart to find the heat regulator and adjusted that for me. Then he sat there and tested it and retested it to make sure that I was happy with the situation. When he pulled that out, I was embarrassed. I asked if I could clean that and he said yes.
The guy went above and beyond. I watched him clean my refrigerator all day long. He was wonderful, polite, respectful, and I would recommend him any day, not only because he was good-looking, but he knew what he was doing. I was very happy with the service. There was just one thing on my previous service call that didn't make me a happy woman. AHS charged me $100 and I didn't realize that my washing machine was under a year old so it was covered under the one-year warranty thing. I didn't know that till the serviceman was here telling me that.
When I called to make the appointment for my refrigerator and stove, the lady just let me know that I wasn't gonna get my money back and that was not the case. I gave her another $100. I wasn't happy with her that was taking the money because she kinda shot me right down. If AHS really look at those things, I'd like to know what the policy is. But I wouldn't have been able to get my refrigerator and my stove serviced if I didn't do that.

I scheduled the appointment to have the furnace looked at and it came up with a problem. Then the buyers of the house wanted that to get looked at by a second person. So, because there was already an open furnace thing that happened, I wasn't able to schedule it again. I had to call American Home Shield which was a dreadful experience. Otherwise, scheduling just the regular service appointment is easy with the website. I personally won't use the service again because an hour and a half wait time to talk to a representative is insane. Luckily, my Realtor had a local contact, so it helped get through the system a little faster so it worked out. Towards the end, the communication was great.
I wouldn't think that they'd be in business if they continually made people wait an hour and a half to talk to a representative. That just doesn't seem right. I'm guessing a lot of the problem was because of the pandemic and everyone's working from home. It's just a combination of timing and the fact that I couldn't do what I needed to do online. If people want coverage and get things fixed at a fairly okay price, go for American Home Shield. Take it with a grain of salt. But if they don't have patience, don’t, ‘cause they might have to call.

We've been kinda locked up in our house for the better part of the year. In general, we go to work every morning and we come home at night, and we don't use our systems the way that we did a year ago. In Houston, the weather was in the mid to upper 90s every day, and the AC was running and we didn't really think much of it other than it was running a lot because we were here all day every day. I got an advisory from an electric company and they said, "Your bill is normally this much every month. And we have history for four years and your bill this month is gonna be double what it was before. We just want you to know that." So, I started kinda poking around and I realized the AC was running almost 24/7. It never cut off.
I'm an engineer and I work a lot in oil and gas and there are certain services that we provide when we do audits in the units. One of which is we look at what's called a steam trap. With the units of the customers, they use steam to heat up their process because of the oil that comes up out of the ground called bitumen. It's like maple syrup. They have to heat it in order to get it to move to process it around and take it to the hydrocrackers. When you make steam and you send it downline, it doesn't stay steam, it actually drops below 212 degrees and turns back into liquid. It's called condensate. So, the steam traps allow the condensate to come out while keeping the steam moving through the system.
I have a laser temperature detector that tells me the temperature at a trap, and I can tell whether that trap is working or not. I went to the car and I got my temperature detector and I started shooting it at the registers in the house. I found that the air that was coming out was almost the same temperature as in. It wasn't cold at all. When the sun went down and it got cool, the system would kinda catch up. Never really all the way, and then, when the day came and the sun came out and it got hot outside, the house just kept getting hotter and hotter. I called American Home Shield and they contracted this company to come out and look at the system.
We have a three-story home but with only one AC. We have these valves that open and close to allow the air to go to the first floor or the second floor or the third floor or any combination or all three. When the tech was here last April, he said, "Hey, one of the motors on your damper control is not working." Since the damper is stuck in the closed position, when the air comes on, it gets extremely cold right there at the damper and it cuts off. He said, "I need to change your motor. It's like 130 bucks, but it's okay, Home Shield pay for it." I said, "Okay, cool. Well, listen, you're here. Check everything else. I mean, you might as well. And I've never used you guys before, but I don't wanna have to pay a call-out fee to have someone else come out and do what you can do while you're standing here right now." He said, "Sure, no problem." He came down and said, "Nope, everything's fine. Fixed the damper, put on a new motor. You're good."
From April until about five weeks ago, everything was fine. Then I noticed the hot air and I called American Home Shield. They contracted the same company to come back. When the guy came back, he said, "Hey, your evaporator is leaking and you've lost two-thirds of your refrigerant." I said, "Okay. Well, can you seal it and then put some more refrigerant in?" He said, "No, it doesn't quite work that way. You don't fix evaporator coils." I said, "Okay. Well, can you just give me some refrigerant so we can be cool here for the amount of time it takes for us to get this fixed?" He said, "No, I can't, because I know that anything that I put in is going to leak out to atmosphere and that's gonna be against the law and I could lose my license and get in trouble."
I asked what should we do. He said the only thing we could do is to replace the evaporator. I'm in the process of selling the house, so that's the last thing I wanted to hear. But I can't sell the house if the AC doesn't work. We need to do whatever it is we need to do. He went back, did the paperwork, sent it back to American Home Shield, then I received an email communication from American Home Shield stating that they recognize that there's a problem with the evaporator and it needs to be replaced. They are not responsible for Freon though. It's like gas in your car, you can take it into service all you want, but they're not gonna put free gas in for you. They said, "So you're gonna have to pay for the refrigerant as we go through and fix this process."
When I asked how much it would be, the rep said, "Well, it's 15 pounds if the system is totally empty, and it will be about 600 bucks." She said if we don't use 15 pounds, then they'd charge me for what we used. Then she said, "Oh, by the way, your house was in 2013?" When I said it is, she said, "Well, there were code changes that came out in 2015. And since your system was already in place, and running, you've been grandfathered in. But the rule is, when you have a catastrophic system like this and you lose your refrigerant, then as we go to fix the problem, we need to add all these additional things to bring the system up to current code."
I asked her to tell me what that is. She ran off this list. Then, at the end, she said, "We're gonna do our part for what we're supposed to do, but the Freon and the code changes or upgrades are gonna have to be your responsibility. So, you're gonna have to pay $1,580 to fix this problem." I said, "I'm flabbergasted. Do I have to do the code changes?" She said, "Yes. If we enter the system, break into it, and do the evaporator change, and then we recharge it with refrigerant and we don't do the code changes, then we're gonna be held accountable." I had to do it. So they said, "Okay, fine. Just put a credit card number on file and we'll schedule a technician." Four guys came and they worked for about an hour and a half. It was a big job. It was a lot more than I thought it would be.
They replaced the evaporator, they did all the things they need to bring the system up to current code, and they recharged it with Freon. They did not use 15 pounds. They only used like 10. So, they dropped $200 off of my responsibility, and I paid them $1,380, and they walked out the door and I hadn't seen them since. Now, the AC is like it always has been. As a matter of fact, I'm able to hit my target temps and get the system offline probably 70% of the day. The system's really only working about 30% of the day. We're only running the air on the second floor and I've had no issue hitting target and for the system to act normally. It has a filter in the return, and when the air comes on, that filter gets sucked up because the filter is not as big as the cavity that it's installed in. So you can hear when it comes on and when it goes off.
I'm happy that we identified the problem quickly and we fixed the problem quickly, but I'm unhappy that I had to pay so much. Having the Home Shield warranty and listening to all the advertisements that they put out on TV and radio stating that, "If you have a problem with your AC, we'll fix it. If you have a problem with your washer-dryer, we'll fix it. If you have a problem with your disposal, your dishwasher, any home appliance, it's covered," and it wasn't covered to the extent that I thought it should have been. I had to pay $1,400 out of pocket. I'm selling the house, and I'm unemployed.
At the end of the day, everything that happened happened. When I sell this house, I'm gonna buy another warranty, and I don't think I'm going to go back into American Home Shield because of all of the fine print and the advertisement that they make stating that it's covered when it's not fully covered. That was a bit alarming. It really set my fiancée off too because we're out 1,400 bucks.

I called American Home Shield to file a claim. I was told that the contractor would contact us, or I should contact them if they don't reach out to us in a timely manner. The contractor came to fix the oven door, and they had to replace the hinges. The only issue that would have been better handled by both parties is that when he was done installing the oven door, he seemed to move out of their house pretty quickly. I was on a conference call, and I'm pretty sure my husband was as well. And unfortunately, my husband is not the right person to go over an oven door with because he never uses an oven door. So, it was after a few days afterwards that I started to do some cooking that I realized it doesn't seem like the door was closing 100%. Unfortunately, I didn't have the chance to talk to the technician after the installation, have him walk me through what he did and to check it with him.
I did call the contractor back. The oven’s working. We're able to use the oven. I called them and said, "Hey, this just doesn't feel like it's really closing all the way.” They said, “Just call American Home Shield, and then they'll submit a request to us, and then we'll send someone out.” The old oven door used to just close a lot more snugly. With this one, the light turns off and when you turn the heat on, you don't really feel heat around the door. Even my 12-year-old son's like, “No, that door is not closed all the way.” It just seems like it's not exactly where it should be. Other than that, our experience is usually very positive with American Home Shield. There's just a little longer call wait times with everything going on, but we've been very satisfied with them.

My experience with AHS has been positive. I was a little taken aback by the pre-paying before I get a technician or anyone to call me, but that was about last year. I had two claims since then and they were handled. Made it easy 'cause I can call American Home Shield at any time, and then the technician usually follows up with me within the next 24 hours.

My dryer was not heating up. I made a phone call to American Home Shield for the claim, made a deposit, and service was scheduled within 24 hours. The process was great. A guy came out pretty much two days later and did a great job. He had what he needed in his truck, which helped. The job was done within 45 minutes so I was really pleased with that. American Home Shield has been pretty good and I have no complaints.

Three years ago, I left Home Shield for a bit because they wouldn't fix a microwave. They said it wasn't broken. I said, "Well, it doesn't work," and they made it makeshift. I wasn't happy with that, so I stopped for a while. But then, I looked out there and there wasn't much anything else and I tried. I was without it for about a year and I said, "Well, I need to swallow it and go ahead and get the American Home Shield back." I did, and since then, I haven't had any problems.
American Home Shield offered a deal to do preventive maintenance for the heater, and they just discovered that in the heater, they said it was real low voltage. The tech said, "I don't have to change it, but I'll probably be back in a week. As soon as you turn on the heater, it's gonna go." He turned on the heater and he said that it's even lower. So they replaced it, cleaned it up, checked the filters, and done, they were gone. They were COVID-protected, came in, came out, and done. The tech was quick, didn't waste time and didn't need to talk to me a lot and just did what he needed to do.
I pay 600 a year. It would have cost me $300 on the air conditioner. Also, they were coming out for the garage door, but they don't do the railing, so I fixed it myself. I cancelled that one. Then they came out for a bathroom leak and the $100 was about the same exact amount of money that if I went to Home Depot and done it myself. I had them come out and double-check everything. So, it worked. But this last thing they had, and I saw that it was a pre-maintenance, which is smart on Home Shield's part because when air conditioners and heaters go out, they could be charged a lot of money for it. I've had three houses with them and I had rentals also with them, so it was well worth it.

My heat was doing cool air. But it was because we didn't have it set correctly. My husband has dementia and he had turned on blower. I thought it was broken, but it wasn't. So the tech showed me how to set my machine. He's always been the person who came out to service me. I like the company. Submitting the claim to AHS is a real easy. If you know the name of the equipment, then you put that in. I've been with them for 20 years and the process is real simple. You used to have to talk to somebody on the phone or be on hold. Now you could just put your complaint in. I did it on a crazy hour of the day and I got a response immediately. We're getting services. What made me keep them is that many years ago, when I first got my home, I needed a new furnace, and they replaced it. All I had to do was the deductible. So I'm very comfortable with the services. I’m real happy.

I had a claim with American Home Shield on a plumbing issue. Things went wonderfully with Patriot Plumbing. They were very efficient. Gary was my tech and he was fantastic. They did explain the issue to me. They broke it down for me as to what caused it and the repair. It was really good. I had three issues. Two required parts to fix, and two got fixed on the same day, one got fixed a week later. It was very fast, very efficient, and downright excellent. There was no muss, no fuss. There wasn’t a lot of drama. It was the smoothest repair I've ever gone through. American Home Shield was great. I feel very wonderful about it. I have had a hard time understanding some of the reps. I don't know if it's because of the way the line has connected or what. Other than that, everything's been really good.

The air conditioner stopped working. I had the AC on 76 and it never cooled below 80. It got up to about 85 in the house. So, I called American Home Shield and Royal Flush came out. Everything went fine. The technician checked in the attic and then he checked outside. When he checked outside, he determined that the motor was not working. So, it was broken. Once he did that, he also discovered that the fans weren’t working. But interestingly, before that, it was working earlier in the summer. So, on the first day, he replaced the motor. But he didn't have the fans. So he had to come back the second day to replace the fans on the outside unit. Then the AC worked. The technician was friendly and professional. He was really good about contacting me as to when he was gonna have the parts and when he was gonna be able to come back.
A lot of people telling me that American Home Shield is one of the best ones. I got it because I thought it was gonna cover things for a 40-year-old house. But there are so many exceptions. So, if you have something you think is covered and then, you call and they'll say that they don't cover that part. But they do respond when I call them and have an emergency.

Since before the Coronavirus started, I've been without a refrigerator in my kitchen. The freezer kept working but the refrigerator side quit. It was back and forth with Home Shield. I would have to unload my freezer and let the contractor work on my freezer and refrigerator. They would leave and think they had it fixed, but the temperature never got below 54 degrees. My refrigerator not working between all the back and forth and the Coronavirus shutdown.
I finally gave up and I rolled the refrigerator into my garage. I was very much not happy because I have two small children who live in my home, a three-year old and a six-year old, and I needed my refrigerator. I had to purchase one. Now, they are still coming back and forth working on the refrigerator that's now in my garage. It's plugged in and the freezer side is working perfectly still, but they're telling me they still need more parts and they're still working on it. That's a lot of money to put into an old refrigerator.
The commercials all say if they can't fix the appliance, they would replace it. But when? Are they gonna let this drag on for a year before they replace my refrigerator? I was very unhappy. But I was thrilled with the pool people who came out for my most recent claim. I sent the contractor, Tropical Pool, a picture of the part and the tech said that was all he needed and then he came. It was totally fixed and everything is working perfect.
Other than the one really bad experience with the refrigerator, my experiences have been fair but surprising. I had a hot water heater replacement and I was surprised how much it cost me because I had to get all of my connections up to code. I was surprised at that. Then, I had a couple of electricians come out to fix minor things and they did an okay job but one of them put the receptacle on upside down and water got in it. But Home Shield generally sends people who really know what they're doing.

There is a piece that seals every time you close the refrigerator door. That came off on my refrigerator. Major Home Appliance came out and they said that they can tape it back in, which they did. That service was good. They thought that would be the easiest solution and it made sense. It's just that for some reason, the first time they sealed it, the stickiness didn’t hold in the middle part so the middle part keeps coming loose. I have to manually tuck it in every time I open and close the refrigerator. It’s been a week of usage. I need someone to come back and do the work again so that it’s completely sealed.
That aside, American Home Shield has very good service and having it has been beneficial. Instead of us dealing with a vendor and not knowing whether the vendor is going in the right direction or not, I like that American Home Shield is sort of in the middle and moderating. They make sure that things don't go in the wrong direction. We've been very happy with American Home Shield and I told my friends that they should get it as well. Our policy usually expires sometime in January and we plan on renewing.

I requested the same people who fixed it before to come out because they were familiar with it. I got that approval from American Home Shield. Ken came out and checked it, and it was low on Freon. He filled it up with Freon, which indicates to me that there might be a leak somewhere in the system. So, if this happens again, we might have to go back and redo this again. But their company is great. They're here when they say they're gonna be here. They fixed the product and go on to their next assignment. They're very professional and very good.

He traced the leaks down and got them fixed. He was very nice and I would hire him myself if I had a plumbing problem. We have had a policy with American Home Shield for 20-something years. I'm a Farmers insurance agent and I've had AHS coverage since Farmers started selling Home Shield's warranty. They have a very simple process for submitting claims.
A couple of years ago, we had air conditioning problems and Sears kept coming out. I kept telling them that the issue was with the coils upstairs. Their techs went upstairs, did a little this and that and were down in less than five minutes. It was after the third time I called American Home Shield when they sent an actual heat and air serviceman instead of sending out Sears. The tech said that I was right and that the issue was with the coils. He said that it was due to AHS's procedure that they sent Sears before. They were trying to do a quick fix instead of doing things right. That serviceman got my issue fixed. I always recommend American Home Shield to people who have a new home.

I like American Home Shield but sometimes, the people who've come out have not followed through or completed the assignment. The toilet was a continuation of a previous problem and it never got fixed. The technician came out to see it a second time but it wasn't leaking at the very time that he was there. I showed him a video of it but he said that he couldn’t fix something that was not broken. The next day after he left, it was leaking again. So, I ended up not using that toilet all that time until this claim with the shower.
The guy from Top Notch who came out was fantastic, pleasant and quick. The shower handle turns on and off well but the whole piece still pulls away from the wall. I mentioned to American Home Shield that the toilet was also broken but the guy said it wasn't in his record. He went ahead and fixed it anyway, which was very thoughtful. He did it within five minutes. There are no more leaks but now, the water has to be turned off the valves in the back. Because if it's turned on, it is a constant squeal. So, I was gonna see if the contractor could come out, look at it and find out what was going on with it and secure the handles to the wall of the shower. A follow-up from AHS would be great. The overall service was disconnected and impersonal but effective.

Jeremy from K & S Plumbing came out and the problem was an easy fix. There was just some hair in the sink. The service is pretty good. I had an issue with a previous service. But once the contract was explained about what's covered and what's not covered, then I felt better about it. American Home Shield could do better on their communication.
The process of submitting a claim for service was easy enough. The issue that I had that wasn't clarified was I didn't know that in one of my bedrooms, the air wasn't coming out of the vent. The rest of the house, the air flows perfectly. So, on the computer, when you're selecting what's wrong, I don't know what's wrong. I just know there's no air coming out. So, I said air conditioning or something to that effect. Then, it doesn't let you do ductwork if you do air conditioning. It won't let you click on that. A gentleman came. He said it wasn't the ductwork. But it has to be the ductwork because everything else is flowing.
If I was able to select that, then I would be fine with the way that service was closed out. Because I wasn't satisfied with that. Someone said they would call me back. They said they would do a follow-up, but they never did. When I called back the other day, they said I waited too late. But I was giving them time to do whatever they needed to do. I thought maybe they forgot about me. When I called back, they said it was too late, so I would have to pay another $100. Other than that, my experience with American Home Shield has been fine.

I own two homes right now, one is a rental and one is my primary property, and American Home Shield is on both of them. The more rural locations or the higher end the house, the experience gets more difficult but now that I'm back in the metro with more available contractors, I haven't had an issue with getting service right away and having quality service. The tech American Home Shield sent from Blue Ridge Mountain for my claim regarding a leak was excellent. He called when he was leaving his appointment prior to mine and told me I was next. He said that if I was available, he could come early. Otherwise, he would go to a later appointment and work with me at the time it would be best. I was home so I told him that it was fine for him to come early. He told me the ETA that was shown on his map and he arrived a few minutes earlier than that time. He was very respectful and he knew what he was doing. After he checked on my plumbing, he told me the solutions that were available to me and we agreed on one of them. He took his time and he was neat. He ended up having to replace a faucet of mine and he had one in his truck so we didn't have to schedule a second visit. He put it in and showed me how it worked.
He told me to be proactive about the leak and that while what he did would take care of it with no problem, there was always a chance that it wouldn't as I had older pipes. He also told me to keep an eye open for other problems that might show up. He had me try the new faucet out and made sure everything was good. When he left, no one would have known that he was here other than me having a brand-new faucet for my sink and no leak.
Despite this claim, AHS sucks. I still have an outstanding claim with them for a refrigerator. I didn't know that my homeowner's association was supposed to have made sure that a repair was done on my refrigerator. I knew that they called my issue in to American Home Shield because during negotiations with them, they told me that they have already called my claim in to American Home Shield. On the date of the settlement, I was told that there was an issue with getting the needed parts for the refrigerator. They said it would be taken care of and it was just a matter of the manufacturer getting the needed part because of COVID.
At the time, I did not sell my previous home as my son and my nephews are still living there. They were coming down to my place once a week and they would bring boxes to put in my garage. GE Appliances had to send the needed part within the move. Whoever delivered the needed part decided to come to my garage and the parts were apparently at my location on August 4th. I got no follow-up phone call from AHS. My boys thought I just had a box sitting in my garage. October rolled around and I decided that the claim had gone on long enough. So, I started calling Home Shield and I got the runaround. I spent two-plus hours to find out that the parts had been delivered on August 4th. Their techs couldn't do anything until I located the parts. I asked them if anybody signed for the parts and whether they were addressed to me or to the previous homeowner. It was addressed to them and lo and behold, I find the box with the parts in my garage.
Home Shield's techs were supposed to be at my place between 1:00 and 5:00 PM the previous Thursday and nobody came. I called AHS and I got the runaround again. The reps told me that whoever the contractor was called me at 3:30. I told the rep whom I was speaking with that I received no call. The reps told me that he was located 35 minutes away. At five after 5:00, I still haven't received a call nor an update from AHS's contractor. I then told AHS's reps that it was not okay for him to come anymore 'cause I had to be somewhere. I told them that I needed to be first on the contractor's list the next day for my issue to be addressed because this is a failure by AHS in communicating.
There was also a time when one of their contractors was a no-show with me. They then told me that they showed up. I found them on my cameras an hour after they were due and they never knocked on my door because the issue was something outside. People shouldn't just show up on somebody's property without making themselves known.
I called in on October 22nd and AHS said that the earliest they can get anybody to my place is November 3rd. In the meantime, my refrigerator is not holding temperature and I've lost all kinds of food. I've gone to buying groceries every other day or eating out. I told AHS's rep that I've waited long enough and to date, my refrigerator is still not fixed. I circumvented AHS already 'cause they kept telling me that GE was giving them the runaround. I told the rep to give me GE's number and I would take care of it. I set the appointment with them.

We are now completed with the job. However, this goes back to the end of August when we first put in the call. Weeks went by and we hadn't heard anything. I understand it’s difficult getting parts, but I tried calling American Home Shield many times and their representatives were absolutely horrible. They made one excuse after another. It went on endlessly. I tried to speak with someone who, perhaps, could help me and I got hung up on a number of times. It reached a point where my peak of anger was not anything like I generally behave.
I took it upon myself a week and a half ago to call once again the place that was going to do the fixing. I had been in touch with them before, and they were getting a runaround from American Home Shield as well. The guy from the place in Denville, New Jersey was wonderful and very sympathetic. On my last call to him, he said that whatever it took, he would get the part. Two days later, we had the part and everything that we needed to be fixed was fixed, but it shouldn't have been an experience like this at all. It was mostly the reps that were so terrible.
Aside from being terrible, many of them spoke English poorly, and it was very difficult to communicate with them. I am not one who is prejudiced, but this was awful. I was so livid I shared it online. I really considered dropping American Home Shield all together. I made a lot of calls to other companies, but I haven't done anything yet. I'm still in the process of thinking. I asked for the opinion of the guy who's in charge of the place that helped me. Even though this experience was horrible, both on his side and mine, he said that he still thought they were the better choice and to think hard about it.

Everything was perfect when the contractor came out for our plumbing issue. We had a clog that he had to get out. We love American Home Shield. We tell everyone to get it. They’ve all been awesome every time we needed them. With our air conditioner, we had a clog right after we first bought the house and they fixed that. I love the submission process, it's online. I don't have to make a phone call. It’s so easy. Everyone they sent out has been great too. We've never had any bad experience, thankfully with AHS.

The washer wouldn't restart. There was a circuit that was blown out. It took them four days to get that circuit in, then they came and replaced it. I've suggested AHS to some people I know. Everything they've done has been great. The only problem we've had with AHS was the deal with the water heater. What got me the most ticked off about it was the fact that they sent somebody out here to fix it. The guy rigged it where he bypassed something. That lasted a year and a half and it broke down again. They sent out another company and they told us, "Whoever did this rigged it where you bypass whatever it wasn't supposed to, and that did something wrong." So I had to purchase another water heater, which I didn't appreciate.

We had an issue with our garage door. The spring that pulled it up and down broke and we contacted American Home Shield through the website to have someone come out, look at it and fix it. We put that in on a Sunday. There have been occasions when it's been a while before somebody contacted us after we put in our request, but for this one, I got a call from Lake Anna Doors on Monday. The individual showed up at our doorstep on Monday evening. I was his last call that day. It was a 3:00 to 6:00, but he got here 6:15 because of Northern Virginia and the traffic here is difficult to anticipate even with COVID-19. The individual worked for 45 minutes, fixed everything, cleaned up the work area, and left. It was very quick service and it worked really well going through Home Shield.
Since this was a garage door, we did most of the work in the garage, so there was no need to come into the house. Those contractors that had come into the house have always come in prepared with shoe coverings and a mask. They took all precautions coming in. They do social distancing when they're there and perform their service, and then they exit the same way they came in. When their English isn't their first language, sometimes that's a little difficult, but that's the way we are today. The majority of the folks that come in have all been very professional. They're dressed accordingly and they provide the PPE that they need as well as use precautions when speaking with us and us with them.
Going through the website and setting it up to identify what the issue was, Home Shield's website could help a little more if, in their block where they say describe, they also put in there if it's an appliance. You select appliance, and then it should say model number, and then the description of the issue. That way, when they send that out to the vendors that might be available to fix that item, they already have the model and they already know what the issue is based on the description.
Sometimes when we had an appliance go out, we would get a call from the vendor who will come out and do the repairs. One of the things they would ask for is the model number, so that they can look it up and see if they have or don't have the parts. They then come out and physically do their initial review and determine what's needed. If you select something on the website, you should put in there at least what the model number is. That would improve the service a little more and give the vendor that's coming out more information prior to arranging a date to visit.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

I've submitted a couple of claims with Home Shield and the process is good. One thing that I haven't loved is that it is left open-ended as to who is supposed to contact who first. They say on one of the screens that the contractor will reach out to me and then if I check the status, it says it's waiting on me to reach out to them. Also, I have struggled getting the contractors scheduled and getting refunds on a couple of them, too. It took a while. But the experience with Rush Heating and Cooling for the HVAC stuff was perfect. They came out for a yearly clean and maintenance of the system.

Family Heating & Cooling came out recently. They were working on our central air unit. Their first guy didn't do the job right. Then the owner came out the second time and he stated that the job wasn't done right. He saw what was done and he corrected it. The third time, they came for a service appointment. He replaced a part, which had cracked, and now I have a leak, in which I'm very frustrated because when I called, they're telling me I have to pay another $100 of which I'm not paying because it's unfair. I feel like that every time that same gentleman comes, I saw the job isn't done right and we have to call back again for something to be done again. I do not want him to come back.
I also have frustration in calling every time. It's trying to get the reps to understand what I'm saying, me understanding what they're saying, a lot of back and forth. I would love to speak to someone from here, but I guess I can't, that's just who they have answering the calls. But I've been with AHS for a long time and they're a great company and I've gotten great service.

I had an AC claim recently where AHS sent out Absolute Comfort and it went well. But the same company serviced that unit three times this year and it's not clear to me why that unit is failing. I don't know whether they are giving us a proper assessment or they're doing the proper repair. But every time they go there, they leave it working. When they were here the last time, they repaired the unit not long before then and they did not give a report as to what was repaired. And when you ask for the reports, you don't get it. Right now, we've had issues, not so much with the American Home Shield, but mainly with the contractors they keep sending out. My most recent claim was for a stovetop. The claim submittal is easy. You just go on the app or the website and then just request a service. They schedule with whoever's available and they call to schedule an appointment. So far, everyone who's been scheduled has been on time or a little early, and they just come see the problem. The main issue I’ve had with the whole process is sometimes they hire companies and contractors that say something to us, but then they report something different to American Home Shield.
That's where I'm in the process with American Home Shield because the contractor just told me they're gonna submit a request for replacement product. Then they reported something different to American Home Shield saying that it was caused by oil like we would then take care of it, but that was not what they told us it was. That's not an issue as well because we have been taking care of our stovetop. We've had it cleaned several times, but the product needs to be replaced. So, we're kind of in the middle of trying to get that fixed.

UPDATED 11/02/2020: I filed a service request for a AC unit not working on 9/23/20 and AAA All Brands Appliance came 4 days later and diagnosed the AC compressor as bad and needed to be replaced. I agreed to pay $240.00 for FREON GAS and they said they will order the replacement part. This is over a month ago and the AC unit has not been repaired yet! Last week I called American Home Shield at least 5 times and spent over 8 hours on the phone listening to Jazz while on hold forever. They made lots of promises, but they all just lies! Nothing gets done! Another week without AC! Should I need a lawyer to collect my insurance claim?
UPDATED 10/29/2020: Can you give a 0 star reviews? That is what this insurance company should get! Filed a claim for a repair on a AC unit! Filed a service request order on 9/23/20, not it is 10/26/20 still no repair done. Tenants have been left in Florida for over a month without Air Conditioner! American Home Shield hires technicians that have very bad reviews! To save money? They are hiring cheap labor?
AAA All Brands Appliance came to look at the AC unit and they diagnosed that the AC compressor needed to be replaced... They also calculated a out of pocket expense of $240 for FREON GAS (the bottle of freon gas doesn't cost that much) I accepted to pay the out of pocket expense... A month later they told me they don't have the replacement part yet! (this was yesterday)
I called American Home Shield again and they told me that AAA All Brands Appliance was going to call me yesterday to schedule a final repair time and day, and that if they didn't call by the end of the day they would escalate the claim... Escalate to what? The Repair company never called, I have been on the phone for over an hour listening to jazz music as they put me on hold. Again I got told today AAA All Brands Appliance is going to call me today... Simply they are a lousy insurance company they are prompt to take your money but when you call or ask for service they take a extra long time to perform the repair. My name is Pedro ** and I have a property management company.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Placed a service request for my AC unit. A week later the service company showed up and told me the compressor needed to be replaced. Agreed to and they told me there was a extra charge. Agreed to pay the extra cost. They told me they will have to order the part. Over a month now and they still don't have the part. Spoke to a representative at American Home Shield and she told me they haven't ordered the part because it needed to be paid for before they send the part! Outrageous, a warranty and they have you pay for the parts? I asked to speak to a supervisor and they put me on hold for a very long time (still waiting). Over 30 minutes now listening to Jazz! Wow what a horrible service! Need my money back! Paid for insurance for many years and not getting anything back. This is a scam! Beware. Don't believe in their promises!

Since I have no other residential property for AHS to cover and I'm not financially able to spend hundreds of dollars on a warranty for a prospective buyer due to a 75% loss in income, AHS still feels the need to charge a cancellation fee. I have only utilized the warranty 2 times in the last 15 years. I'm sorry but I think AHS has gotten more than their fair share out of me and charging a cancellation fee, especially in these times, is offensive. Won't be using them if ever I'm provided the opportunity to own a home again.

I had a home that I lived in California with AHS policy for two years. On this house that I currently live in right now, I've had it for three months. Requesting service is simple. I've done it online, and then I've also done it live via the phone. Air Rescue Mechanical was sent out for a heating issue recently. The gentleman, Johnny, was phenomenal. super responsive, and did a great job. He did an assessment first and determined that there was a part needed. He said it was probably gonna be a week before the part came in. What ended up happening was that he was able to get the part in a day or two tops, and it was back up and running.
In today's world, right, wrong, good, bad, or indifferent, there's a lot of access to information through social media. As a member of society, like many others, have become dependent upon others that provide reviews of either service, service level, professionalism, follow-up, etc. I was lucky that they assigned me the service provider that they did, but I've also had other claims that I filed that the first person that was assigned to me when I looked them up on Yelp and other reviews had very low ratings, and also even disparaging marks against not only the company, but American Home Shield named specifically in the comments as well. I don't know how often they review or what the process is for review for any of the service providers that they use, but I would just ask that if they don't have a formal process, they probably wanna develop one. They're representing American Home Shield in one way or another.
The reviewer provided that not only was the service was bad, but when they called American Home Shield, American Home Shield was aware of the poor service that this provider had in the past and they have a reputation and a track record of providing bad service. They just continue to use that provider and so I don't know if they have a process but when it's a disparaging remark and it's on Yelp, so they can dispute it. But at the end of the day, it's just a reflection of their company.

Then, when he was coming out, he didn't call and say between what times he would come. He just showed up at our house. And he refused to come into the house and wouldn't do anything. He yelled at my husband and my husband told him he needed to go. AHS sent another company out and they were great.
We've also had Chesapeake Appliance come out for the dyer and they said that it needed to be replaced. The tech sent it over to AHS and they called. I was at work and the lady said she needed me to be at the house to answer questions because she needed measurements and things like that. I asked her to call me back and she didn't. Then, I kinda just forgot about it and it got pushed at the back. When this whole thing happened, my husband talked to them about it and she was supposed to send him an email but he never got an email. Overall, though, Home Shield is worth it. When the one company comes out, it's beneficial and it saves money to a degree.

My husband put the service call to American Home Shield. We feel good about the person that came out. He did a good job. It was a fuse that had blown. He was here longer than an hour and a half. As far as AHS, we were kind of finicky about who they're sending in regards to electricians with our plumbing system because we keep the same guys for our well, and we don't know if they know what they're doing. But, overall, they're very responsive, so it's fine.
We feel that it's a little tedious if you have multiple items that have the same issue. We had more than one fan that were acting up, and the system only allows you to put in one fan. Fans aren't very expensive, so we think that you could call in and pay $75 for the same type of tech to come out to check three fans. When it would probably be the same person, same company, three times is excessive. They say, “Okay. Well, you would have to pay additional if there are more than, I don't know, whatever the cap is that is covered by AHS.” It's the same item. I don't think we should have to have multiple service calls if it's the same item multiple times.
It's beneficial to just know that if things break, if they're not slowly needing to be replaced, you don't have to worry about paying the full cost of getting gouged by some irreputable company. That kind of falls on AHS to do the legwork of finding someone that they think will do a reputable job and send them out because both of their names are on the line. That takes the hassle away from the consumer. So, that's helpful. Then, within generally 48 hours someone goes at the property trying to assist the consumer with whatever issue they're having.

When I called, Home Shield sent Air Dynasty. They came out, did their diagnosis and the technician said it was the evaporator coil. He showed me some pictures of some rust and stuff. It was leaking. He showed me all the system. And he said, based on what he saw, my out of pocket cost would be between $1,200 and $1,400. And he would get with AHS and get a confirmation on the pricing. They called me back the next day. They said it would be $1,800. They said AHS would pay for the evaporator coil and the installation. Of course, I had to pay for the Freon, which Home Shield is not being fair to the consumer when it comes to Freon. The rep said I needed a duct, something with the ductwork, a new drain pan, a new drain line. It was out of code for the flow switch, and I needed a hard cap.
This house was built in 2011. I got to thinking, "Well, that's quite a bit of stuff that's out of code for a 2011 home." I didn't say anything. I just went ahead and said, "Okay." They said it would be $1,800 dollars. I said, "Can you guys give me a discount?" And then they said, "Yes. But I'll call you back. I'll get with my boss and see if we can get a discount. And I'll call you back." She called me back. She said, her boss said, "You can get additional 10% if you fill out a review online." I'm like, "Well, you guys really haven't done any work." And I gave the technician a 5 for coming out and explaining everything, and his diagnosis. So, I said, "Okay. I'll go online and do it."
But when I went online, I started reading the reviews of other customers. Every review that Home Shield had had a 1. It's the same exact thing they told me that the evaporator coil that I needed would cost $1,800. And then they sent a guy named Ignacio over the next day because I said, "That's too much money to pay out of pocket. For a little bit more money, I can get a whole new system in and out.” And the same thing he told me, it's the same thing he told the reviewers.
I called Air Dynasty the next day and I said, "Look, you guys are scams. The same thing your technician told me, it's the same thing in these reviews." She said, "Well, we're trying to rectify the problem. We've straightened out things since then.” But no, you can't have straightened things out because the same exact thing he told me was the exact thing in the reviews.
I called AHS back, and I got a second opinion to come out. He said the system is up to code. He couldn't find anything wrong. It is full of Freon and everything. That assured me that Air Dynasty is a scam. Based on the reviews that I saw and what they told me as well, they're scammers. I called AHS and I said, "Look, you guys need to remove Air dynasty from your contract list. They are scammers. They're no good. Their reviews are bad. How can you guys send out a company with reviews like this? Are you guys reading the reviews of this company? You can't be, because if you were, you wouldn't have never sent them out to me in the first place." So, I called the Better Business Bureau and they said I would have to file a claim online, which I'm going to do, because Air Dynasty are scammers.
The second opinion contractor MJ Mechanical came up and their technician said he couldn't find anything wrong with the system. It's not leaking. He showed me the gauges where it was full of Freon. He said it was up to code. He said, "I don't know why he told you you're out of code." I knew I wasn't out of code anyway because the house was built in 2011. I didn't need a flow switch, drain pan, drain line, hard cap or any ductwork. That's all their scam is to get money in their pocket because they wanted to make more money than what they would pay the contractor for replacing the evaporator coil, which didn't need replacing. And I don't know what happened with the unit. It made some noise and it stopped cooling. But it could have been a fluke. But the second opinion contractor didn't find anything wrong with it.
Home Shield is really bad on the consumer when it comes to AC. We pay this money for warranty. We pay $100 service fee. They come out, we got to pay $1,800, $2,000 to get a repair done. And then we got to pay all this money for Freon. That's unfair for what we have to pay. And then, their customer service is horrible. They give us people that we can't understand when we call. Out of five words that they say to me, I can only understand one. I need someone that can speak good, clear English and then can understand my point. Until this is straightened out, I'm very dissatisfied with the service, the customer service, the contractors.
I had a refrigerator back in February of this year. It took them to July to fix my refrigerator. I kept telling the technician, "Guys, you all not looking in the right place." "I'm the tech. You don't tell me what to do. If you don't want me to do it, then I'll cancel the job." "But I'm telling you, I worked in a technical field for 36 years. I know how to troubleshoot." And this guy was like, "No. I'm the technician. You know what? I'll cancel the order. Cancel it. Cancel it." Home Shield needs to revamp their system completely.

The last one who came out did his job pretty quickly and had his face mask on. He also stayed away from us as much as he could. All in all, the people that AHS send have been good and they know what they're doing, so that's all I can care about.

I like that I can just go online and file the claim, and somebody can come out quick. It's easy to deal with. When the dishwasher stopped working, I filled out the claim online. And then, the company, Ramey, called me. I did it over the weekend, so they called me on that Monday and asked what was wrong with it. They came out the next day and they fixed it within 20 minutes. The tech explained to me what was wrong with it. And if it happened again, that I would just need to submit again because it's something that just happened with it, with the movement of the dishwasher.

American Home Shield was great. We had a bathtub and when I went to turn on the hot water, it didn't have hot water coming out. American Home Shield made arrangements for a plumber. It was very easy to schedule the appointment and they were very prompt about getting back to me. I had the $75 deductible paid online. A plumber came out and repaired it. It works fine. The whole thing was up and down three days, from the time I contacted them till repair. It wasn't one of those things that were an emergency like water was flowing on the floor or anything like that. The guy just had to replace the controller on the tub, so that hot water would come out. The poor old guy had a heart condition and I thought he was gonna have a heart attack on me. Other than that, he was pretty good. Overall, the experience was excellent and I would recommend American Home Shield.

I recommend American Home Shield every time I get a chance. If someone is having any kind of issue at home, I tell them my experiences. I brag about American Home Shield big time. One time, my furnace would kick on and wouldn't ignite. It blew cold air. I submitted a claim and Climate Heating and Cooling called the next morning and let me know that they had an opening. They came out that morning and got the furnace to where it would stay working. It turned out that when it was worked on before, when a new motherboard was put in, the wiring harness was not changed. It was the following week when the new harness came in, which I didn't think was bad. They put it on and they were really good.

American Home Shield sent Kasey's out to work on my microwave and my stove. The microwave wouldn't work. Every time we punched in a button, it would do some funky stuff. When I called American Home Shield to file a claim, they told me that somebody would call. They reached out and everything was good from that. Kasey was the second company. The first company was rude and nasty, so I told AHS I didn't want them. They rescheduled it.
The stove is still not working. It's not getting up to temperature. I just haven't had a chance to call them today. Kasey put a new thermostat. They did something to the stove, and I put it at 400 over the weekend to cook something, and I pressed the temperature up and back down just to see where it was at, and it still hadn't reached 400. We have a chest freezer that broke and we found out later on that it's not covered. So, we had to trash it. That was a little disappointing. But other than that, my experience has been wonderful.

The work was very thorough and pleasant. I couldn’t ask for a finer job. We’ve had good dealings with American Home Shield in the past too. Saulter’s Appliance Repair came out and they looked at the oven from about 10 feet away. They said we broke the oven door by putting too much weight on it, but they said to us it was okay. They said they'll have the hinges replaced. They also stood away from the refrigerator when they looked at it and said, "Oh, that's easy. It's just one little part. We could order it." They then reported to AHS that we forced the oven door at more than a 45-degree angle, which caused it to break. The door opens at a 90-degree angle. You can't put anything in it at 45 degrees. The door doesn't open far enough.
That first contractor was completely out of line. Another thing he said was that the refrigerator was on a recall, so he shouldn't even do anything. That particular unit was not on recall though. That guy never showed up and never replaced the part for the refrigerator. He dropped the entire thing. Everything he did was “mishandled on purpose.” He should lose his license and be put out of business. I don't know why he's working. I'm in real estate for 33 years and I've never seen anything like this. I've been using AHS forever too. Anyway, AHS sent somebody new and they fixed everything. It was not a problem at all.
The second guy came in perfect. He said, "Yeah, this is very common. It happens. It's always about the fourth or fifth year. Very normal." He ordered the parts, got everything and put them in. He did absolutely great. That's what I know of AHS. They usually come through that well. It's very easy to submit claims too. I do it online and they always said that the contractor would call within 24 to 48 hours. Both contractors did.
I don't like American Home Shield's customer service though. I had to talk to an upper level person. The problem with them and all businesses today, they work with, "Hit this exchange, this exchange, this number, this number," and you go where you're going. Whatever the first guy put in their computer system is all they looked at. I don't know if they're trained not to think, not to look and not to handle. All they did was repeat what the first guy said and that's what made me very frustrated. I had to write a letter to their legal department to get their attention and then the internal manager ended up calling us. Overall, I've tried other home warranty companies and they're all the same. They're not great, but American Home Shield at least came through.

I had a stopped up drain and I did the claim online with American Home Shield. There should have been an option on the website for an emergency and there was none. After I filed the claim, they listed the plumber’s phone number. I called the plumber directly but if it's not an emergency, they don't come out right away. So, I had to wait and that meant I went without water and I had a flood. So, it should be listed on there if it's a regular claim or it should be listed as an emergency if you need somebody out right away.
The plumber was perfect. He knew exactly how to fix the problem and how to file the claim. Sometimes when you hear a plumber will come out, they don't know how to work with the warranty company. This plumber knew the steps that he had to follow and it was approved. Then, he went and got the parts and started right away. So, that was very helpful. He solved the problem that day. He was able to snake the drain and take care of our issue, and we were able to clean up all the water. Luckily, it didn't do any damage. We just switched from the other company to AHS. This was my first claim and it was the first time and it went smoothly. Everything is to my satisfaction. So, I’m happy.

People need to make sure and look at the policies to see if there are extra things that has to be added. When our deep freeze went out a few months ago, I thought it was included in our policy but it wasn't. It was a stand up freezer and that was not included on our policy. We also had to get an extra add-on for our well since we don't live in the city limits. So if they live outside of the city limits or have extra appliances that aren't like your refrigerator, stove, microwave, then they need to make sure that they don't have to be added separately.
Other than that, the claim submission process with AHS is fairly simple. Most of the time, I can just do it online. But every now and then, I have to make a phone call and that takes a little bit longer, but it's not super difficult to put in a claim. Their reps are normally easy to reach and I haven't had any problems with them. Recently, my icemaker on my fridge went out. Prodigy Appliance Repair came out and diagnosed the problem. The service tech American Hoem shield was from Air Majesty and he was not able to come out until Monday. when he came, he said he could not get the AC to give off any codes. He couldn't get the problem to replicate itself and said that there was no issue going on right then. But if the problem arose again, I had 60 days and I wouldn't have to pay again. I was to call if there were any other problems.
The issue happened again on Saturday and we did the same thing. We turned the AC off then once it defrosted, put it back on. It was hot that day and I was baking so the house was extremely hot. I tried turning the AC off then on again and it worked. I guess it was just gonna be a weekend occurrence. I gotta wait for it to happen in the week. I could not get the AC to replicate the issue. With American Home Shield, everything is pretty much explained as is. You got to pay a little money upfront. If there's anything else extra, they'll let you know. They explain it well in their paperwork and their website. I've never had a bad experience with them and their claim process is very simple.

I'm computer-illiterate, so if I say that it's really easy, it is. I've only had to pay the one-time fee, and they've come out and fixed the problem. The very first time they came out was for my air conditioner. The guy who came was very professional and polite. He looked at my AC and said the problem was the compressor. He goes, “This is something that’s typical. It goes out on these air conditioners outside, the outside part of it.” He came back the next day when he said he was gonna come then he fixed it, and it's been working ever since.
When the pipe for our master bedroom bathroom shower was busted, we took our showers in the guest bathroom. The first time the contractor came out, he fixed the hot water faucet in the guest bathroom and he did that lickety-split. He was wonderful. He knew his stuff and he was very polite, well-mannered, and professional. In our master bedroom bathroom, he picked the drain up and went, “Oh, yeah, this pipe's broke. I'm gonna have to have a helper to come back to get underneath there while I'm on top.” That was Thursday of last week and he said they'd be here 8 o'clock Monday. Home Shield's website is a little jacked up. It's hard to find the number to call and what's covered versus what's being sold. It took me a while to figure out how to call. It just kept trying to sell me something versus showing me where I needed to go bcause I already had the service. But once I got ahold of someone, the claims process was fantastic. One of the questions I had was it said there was $100-something and I didn't know if I was supposed to pay that before the tech comes here or after. It was a little confusing but I've got it all worked out now.
I had a claim for a range top that's 20 years old. Maple Leaf Mechanical came in, figured out what part they needed, and then ordered the part. The tech was always early for every one of his appointments and he wore his mask. Both visits were very cordial and very nice. He got the job done the range top is working. I called American Home Shield, and I got a text and my husband got a phone call to let us know as to when to expect the contractor. For the first one, the young lady who took my request got it all jumbled up. I was notified by A State Plumbing that they only had one item that was to be checked and it didn't have the other request that I needed on there. So, I called AHS and talked to someone and everything was averted.
Everything was impeccable with the service provided by A State Plumbing. My bathroom is furthest away. I had to wait the longest to get my hot water, and then it ran at a slow pace. I'm on a time limit when I get up in the morning, so waiting around for water to get to me and heat up is not good. It was right when we moved into our home. The water heater was acting weird. It wasn't producing as much hot water as it should. The contractor came out on the appointment time that was set up. It was quick. The problem that was happening with the water heater wasn't happening when the contractor was there. So, I understood that they couldn't do anything either. At that time, nobody had used the water heater in so long. The water heater is an older one but it's not to where it needs to be replaced. By this time, there were just two parts that needed to be replaced.
Recently, the water heater completely stopped working. I called in the claim to American Home Shield at 8:30 in the morning and by about 1 o'clock in the afternoon, I had received a call. I was at work so I let the call go straight to voicemail. Within about five minutes, they called again and I noticed it was a local number. When I answered the call, it was the local contractor saying that they could be at my home within the hour, and they gave me about a three hour time frame, which was a little bit long for me but I made it work.
I had my brother-in-law there at the house and he said that the contractor was in and out within an hour. The problem was located, fixed and done. By the time I got home with my son, everything was working and checked, so it was fine. We were satisfied. They left the old part and when I looked at the invoice that was emailed to me, they said exactly what was wrong. They tested the water while they were there to make sure that it was already hot. They let us know how long it would be until we would get a full tank of hot water. We're a family of six and so there's constantly showers going on or dishwasher or our regular washer for clothes.
It's been a very seamless process with AHS. The first year that we bought our home, the contract was paid for and then when the contract expired, it rolled over to our responsibility. That in itself was very easy. Cost-wise, it's very inexpensive as to what it covers. It's worth the price. The times that we've had to use it, AHS has been attentive and understanding. They have given us prompt time and it’s not just any company that they pluck out. The contractors seem very trustworthy and honest companies. Overall, we've been very satisfied and I don't see us switching any time soon.

Then, I had a claim on the dishwasher and the serviceman and American Home Shield were great as well. But we're struggling tremendously with trying to get somebody here to take care of our furnace. We have a baseboard heat furnace, not a boiler system, and for whatever reason, that seems to cause trouble on getting somebody here. We're just requesting somebody to come look at our furnace for a preventative annual checkup and it almost seems like it would have been better if I would have said there was a problem.
We had to call them twice on this and I was not happy at all with the last customer service person that we dealt with. We clearly said we need somebody to take care of a baseboard heat system and she scheduled us to have somebody take care of us but it clearly said on the service request form that it was for forced air system. Bencraft Mechanical has been out before and recently, their technician came out for my AC unit. He was a great guy. He put up with all my questions, but unfortunately, it was a quick fix. He had to troubleshoot a little and then he decided to drain out one of the lines. I drained half of it, so he just had to drain the other half. I still had to pay $100 for this claim, so I lost on this one, but I'm feeling all right about it. Overall, we are doing great with AHS.
Initially, when we signed up, the web portal didn't work. I had to call and every time, it was bad, but that’s been fixed. I don’t expect a uniform experience though. They've got to make money somehow. Paying that deductible is the only downside. Still, we’ve tripled our money, so we’re very happy. They’re very responsive, and they don't try to nickel-and-dime us on every call that we've had. They seem to pay out, and they seem to hire good contractors too. I've told all my friends and family already that they need this unless they have a brand new construction home. For $500 for the whole year, there's no question about it.

The refrigerator was not keeping cold. Appliance Pros of Tallahassee came out once before and they were sent out again. The guy told me there was a leak in it, and if it couldn't be fixed, and he said how long it would last. He called AHS for them to know about it, and AHS gave me a choice to replace it. I did that and AHS refunded my money back. So, everything was smooth. It was just that I thought it was another company that wrote the check and I could never communicate with them. Then they emailed me about it and said they would have it shipped within 21 days, and I got it within 21 days.

American Home Shield is something that I don't think about until I need them. Thankfully, I don't need them often. Every time I do though, the action has been immediate. I like its simplicity and they've taken care of everything we need to have done to our satisfaction. I called them for a preventative maintenance screening and they told me the date and the time Cabot Mechanical would come out. The process was very easy. When the technician came out on a special to clean our air unit, he met with my husband and my husband stated that he was very professional.

I had Home Shield have a contractor come out and do the preventative maintenance to get my heating system started. I called it in because I had a specific time request I wanted to schedule. It was easy. I just moved into the house a few months ago, and have not used the heat here. The tech came out, tested everything and got everything all up and running. It was amazing. I have nothing but good experiences.

American Home Shield's contractor repaired everything I requested. I had three problems, the first being a washer that was not completing any program until the end. My second problem was a refrigerator that was making noise that comes and goes. Lastly, I needed to repair the sparks for the left part of my gas stove. Initially, my issues were applied to one of AHS's agents. A tech from there came and did something. However, I experienced the same problem after a little bit. AHS then sent Ace Appliance and their tech did all three of my appliances excellently.

We have a claim on our washer and AHS thought that they had fixed the problem when the first service company came out. But then, they had to send another service company and they determined it was a completely different issue. They said that they probably didn't need to replace that logic board that the first company replaced because the problem ended up being the cold water valve. And if the cold-water valve doesn't work on a washer, it won't process through its cycles.
So, we're waiting now on that part to arrive and hopefully, to resolve the issue. It's tough because we have 13 people in the house and we've been using laundromats for two and a half weeks. So, it’s a little nutty. Besides that, the process seems to be pretty easy for scheduling. I started the process online, then I ended up talking to somebody on the phone as well. As long as I am able to log in, I would be able to see the status. They also gave good status on text messages and emails.
Other than that, the second provider was very personable and very communicative as far as letting me know where we were and what was going on. But the guy from first company was a little bit like a robot. I called him flesh-robot but not to his face. He came in and didn't really do any small talk. He just said he was here to look at the washer and the first time, he came in with no mask on. I directed him straight to the laundry room and he was there for 12 minutes. He ran a diagnostic then he said that this was the problem and he had to order a part, so he'd be back. And he left.
When he came back to install the part, it was exactly the same thing. I asked him to wear a mask that time and he did. But he came right in and just did the work. And then, he started what he thought was the calibration cycle, but he actually started the test cycle. He said it was going to take 30 to 40 minutes, then he left and never came back. He said when it was done, we should be able to use the washer. But he never ran the calibration cycle, which was what the second company determined when they came out. They also had to do some other testing to figure out what was actually wrong with it.
I have noticed that a lot of the companies that AHS partner with are not on the Better Business Bureau or they have extremely low ratings on the Better Business Bureau. I got some feedback on this as well from some people who have used American Home Shield before, I also did my own research before I called in on this project and asked if they had any higher-rated companies that do much better service. Oddly enough, the first one I got wasn't particularly great and I read that they aren't part of the Better Business Bureau. The second company is a part of the Better Business Bureau, but they had a significant number of complaints there. So, that's why I didn't go with them first. But it seems like the young man that came was more knowledgeable than the first gentleman that came from the other company by far.
So, it would prove better for AHS to see if they could get more companies on their list that have super-high ratings with the Better Business Bureau because that reflects on them. If they get the ones with higher ratings, that means that they're making an effort to partner with companies that are going to reflect well for them. My parents have used American Home Shield for their home, too and overall, it's been good from what I understand their experience was. For us, this is the first time we got a home warranty because we have some particularly large items like a pool and a spa. Also, it's a 20-year-old house and if you buy a 20-year-old house, there has got to be things that start to go south.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

American Home Shield has been convenient. They're quick. I go online and request service, and within an hour, I've got a response. It saves a lot of money too. It's just a $75 service fee for them to come out and the home warranty covers everything else. They sent Hospitality Heating and Air Conditioning for a heating issue and it was good. They had to come back out though. They're out here again today and they're still trying to fix the issue.

The toilets weren’t flushing. They were backing up. That was after the hurricane. And then, I had a leak behind the downstairs shower. And then, the upstairs shower was not working. It was a bunch of different plumbing problems all at once. I called Home Shield out. K & S Plumbing did a great job with what they did. Very courteous, professional, and got it fixed and handled. But the unfortunate thing is almost every single thing that I bring up to Home Shield, I pay 100 bucks for them to send somebody out. And typically, whatever I'm bringing to their attention is never covered. I always come out of pocket. Lately, I've been denied by every single insurance on every single thing. And I'm just getting so tired of paying insurance when none of it works for me.
When I call Home Shield to see if something is covered or to see if I could file something to get somebody out there, it would be really great to be able to talk to a representative. But you're forced to do it on the automated system or put it through online. And the bad part about that is, like this last plumbing issue, it doesn't really fit in with the criteria of what the automated system is asking. And it doesn't fit in with what you're trying to put in online. With the automated system, I could not get a representative. I was trying to say what the problem was. It would not let you tell what all the different problems were. It will only let you list one. All I was able to say is toilet, that is it, when I have three toilets messing up and two showers. My card is already charged 100 bucks before they even know what the problem is, and I cannot get to a representative.
From there, I see where they charged me 100 bucks because I can't go any further with their automated system until I pay. After that, I gotta get back on the phone with them to finally get to a representative to talk about what my issues are. But I can't ever speak with a representative until they run my card. I get the representative on the second go-around, but that's only because they charged my card. I can never speak with them beforehand and say, “Hey, do you cover this before I go through all this rigmarole?” I can't even get to somebody to even tell me that at all. They have to charge me before I can even know if it's covered to even go through all that. That's more than annoying. And then, it seems that if it looks like whatever it is, is gonna be covered, and they send someone out, I get somebody to come out but it's the company that tells me, “No, that's not in your policy.” "So what do y'all cover? I'd like to know.”
I can call any company and say, “Hey, what would you charge to look at this?” or “Can you come and give me a free estimate?” They can do that all day long. But when I go through Home Shield, if I just wanna know if something is covered, I don't wanna be charged 100 bucks before I can even speak with somebody to know if something is covered.
I paid 100 bucks, and then I do speak with somebody, it still seems like those things are covered. But it turns out they're not. By the time I find out, the professional is already here, looking at me like I'm an idiot and asking me if I wanna proceed or not, and it's us coming out of pocket. But I've already paid Home Shield 100 bucks just to send the person. I'm coming out behind. If I would have called the company myself for them to come out and say, “This is what it's gonna cost out of pocket,” I would have saved at least 100 bucks because I wouldn't have a finder's fee. That happened with the air conditioner unit a couple of months ago. It's a vicious cycle. They refunded the $100 on the AC thing because my husband was pretty irate he ended up having to pay that guy over $700. That was appreciated.
I like the comfort of knowing that I have insurance through Home Shield when something stupid happens, because my husband and I are the king and queen of things breaking, and we're tired of this. We always come out of pocket. But I'm starting to wonder what do they cover? Also, the rate went up last year. Nobody told me. It just went up to 80 something bucks a month from 60. I happened to be going through my statement and I went, “Whoa, I’m paying $80 a month? I was supposed to be paying $65 or something." We’re reevaluating things. Other than that, Home Shield's customer service reps are great. They're on point. They send us good professionals that come out here and take care of the problem. It's just a system flaw.

We just had a routine maintenance done through American Home Shield. They sent me an email to schedule it. So, I got on the website and scheduled it. They gave me a date and time and who was doing it. Then they called and arranged a time. The tech didn't spend a lot of time here. He was only here for 20 minutes at the most. I thought he was supposed to clean it and so forth. How can he do all that in 15 minutes? There's one in the basement and one in the attic. I was concerned that he did his job. From what I pay, I’m dissatisfied. I had to pay $75 per unit. Other than that, we've been members with American Home Shield since 2001 and it's been good.

American Home Shield helps with certain things. Certain things, they don't help. I had an issue before with them because they just say what's covered, but they never get down into the details of exactly what's covered with that appliance. There was a lot that I had to go through with my air condition, and they never told me what was really covered with it. I had to talk to someone and they sent me a copy of my contract. With my contract, it breaks down every appliance, if I ever have to call, what is covered and what is not covered.
Now when I had this with the refrigerator, I called in, saying that my refrigerator's leaking. It was clogged up because it was leaking and water was coming down. I wanted to see what they would and wouldn't cover. It's like a recording, they ask what you're doing a claim for, and you tell them, then after that, that's when they wanna take your money. They would call in 30 minutes or so, telling me that they have someone to come out and look at it. Ashman Appliances came out and they were excellent.

When I talk to American Home Shield's representatives, sometimes there is a misunderstanding. I had to communicate a lot when I had a couple of issues. Still, once my problem is explained and their reps have understood, issues have gotten resolved. Having this warranty is beneficial to me. I'm a single woman and my house is new. With AHS, I can have vendors I can trust. When I had a really bad issue with my AC, there were some dishonest things that happened but AHS sent someone back to me and corrected the problem. Home Shield stands behind its vendors and its customers. If a customer is not happy, they are helpful. For my AC claim, they found someone more reputable. It took a couple of weeks but they made sure my issue is resolved.

We had American Home Shield, and then we dropped it for a few years, and now we've had it for another 15 years. Mainly, we take the warranty for the big items in case we have to replace an appliance or we have a problem with the air conditioning or the heating. Last summer, we had a couple of problems with the air conditioning. We're in Texas and we had to wait several days. That was miserable. If the response time could be a little sooner, that would be great.
Recently, our toilet was constantly running and SDL Plumbing came on the third day, but there was a weekend in there also. Other than that, they were excellent when they came. We didn't stay in there while the guy fixed the toilet, but when he got through, he came out and told us what he had done and what was causing the problem. He put a couple of new parts in, tuned it up, and it's worked all right since.
