My mother had American Home Shield and I kept it after she passed away. So far, their claim process has been good. When I called in this last time, the guy was fine. The only thing was I have been told multiple times that you can ask for a certain company to come to your home but he said they couldn't guarantee that. That was the only thing that I wasn't happy with because I wanted Multiple Services. The reason is I will use them when I pay for my yearly but they are already contracted with AHS. It's so much easier to use them in case there's a problem.

I didn't like one of the vendors American Home Shield had. I was told to just tell AHS that I only wanted a certain company, for example Sears Repair, to come out. Now, you have to stay on hold too long to talk to anybody. Multiple Services was just there and I wanted them to do the repair but the rep said I couldn't do that. He put my claim in the computer and luckily, Multiple Services came up so there wasn't an issue. They came out and found something. There were a couple of switches on the furnace that had to be replaced. They came back to fix it. They were great. The tech was very professional. I would definitely use them again.

I had two outlets in my kitchen that weren't working. I went on American Home Shield’s website and told the rep I needed service. I got an email saying that I could get in contact with an electrical company that they gave or wait for them to call me. I called them, and the techs came in and fixed the issue right away. They knew what they were doing and the service was very professional. I was satisfied with my experience.

I had two claims with American Home Shield. One was about three weeks ago when my hot water tank went out. I called, paid the $100, and they had Rick from Tri County Plumbing contact me. He was really great. He was able to basically be the go-between, which was nice, and it took a lot of pressure off of me. He got that water tank replaced. In the meantime, I had a blockage in my sink and I wasn’t able to get that fixed. I called American Home Shield again. The only bummer is the $100 every time. But the tech was able to snake the main drain and get the sink fixed. That was nice. American Home Shield is worth it so far and would I definitely recommend to friends buying a new house to have the home warranty.

My garbage disposal was something that I wanted to get fixed and I wasn't disappointed by any means on how long it took for the repair guy to come out. He introduced himself and he had the look of his job. I wasn't threatened or disappointed by his look. He handled himself well. He came in, diagnosed it and fixed it. It was quick. American Home Shield taking care of stuff, their response time, and everything else is great. My only problem would be the price. I wish the fee to have someone come out and at least look at some stuff was a little lower.

I love the online process. I much prefer that than trying to get ahold of somebody in person. Our recent experience is very good. I had a clogged drain in the bathroom and these guys from Viper Drain Cleaning came over and cleaned out the drain in about 15, 20 minutes. They were real concerned about making sure that they scrubbed up the floors and left everything in top condition.

AHS makes so much sense. It's a great way to control the budget. We live in a condo and I asked the maintenance man here, “Is this a good deal paying the 99 bucks to get somebody to clean up the drain?” He said, “Oh, yeah. You're not gonna do any better than that with anybody. You try to find a plumber to come out there for any less than hundred, 125, 150 bucks, you're gonna be lucky.” That's the story that I've repeated to a number of people.

I'm very happy with AHS. The first time I submitted a claim with them, I didn't have any problems at all. But when I went to schedule today, I wanted to do it online and when it asked for my zip code, I would put in my zip code, and then it would come up and tell me there was no zip code or they didn't have that zip code in their area. I ended up having to call them by phone to get it scheduled. But other than that, I've had no issues with them at all.

I have American Home Shield on my sister's property also. I submitted a claim for her AC then they told me someone would be out there that Saturday. The guy that came out let me know that he couldn't get in contact with American Home Shield so nothing could be provided. However, if I wanted to go on and get some air in there for the weekend, then I could pay him a certain amount of money which was 400 and some dollars. He said that there was a piece that American Home Shield wasn’t covering. I told him, “No. I have American Home Shield and I'm not expected to pay anything. If I was, then American Home Shield is going to notify me, not you trying to upsell me.”

I was on the phone with American Home Shield for hours that day when the guy came in. Someone said, “We don't do work on Saturdays. We just send a person out to assess the problem then we'll send someone back out the following week.” They came back after several days but I would rather them tell me they couldn't get anyone out till Monday.

I was really skeptical of that company. When I had the work done in my house, I was waiting to see because if they were gonna send the company out, I was gonna say forget it because after that experience, I seriously thought about going with the company that my brother has on his property. It seemed like they answered right away. My other sister went on with that company too because that was kind of a horrible experience I had. There was also a misunderstanding about the accounts since both of them were in my name. They told me that I didn't have the one account and that it wasn't paid for. I have proof that they were taking out from my account every month. That wasn't a real pleasant experience but we got past it.

This is my second time with Home Shield. I had it at my previous residence in Virginia and we had that for quite some time. When we moved to Maryland in 2017, we moved into a new house and we hadn't had any problems with anything. After a few years, we decided to get Home Shield and we got that back in September this year. I never had any problems with them. Everything works fine. One time, my ice maker stopped working. When you pushed on where the ice and the water comes out, the ice maker thing had frozen up. The repair guy replaced a gear inside of it that apparently froze up.

The issue was resolved. Very happy with the vendor that fixed the problem. Would not hesitate to ask for their service again.

    Original Review: Nov. 20, 2020

I recently had my dryer fixed and the service guy responded right away within a day. It was in my laundry room, so he had access to the garage. He didn't even have to come into the house and even though that it was that way, we didn't really come in contact but he still wore a mask. It took him a while to fix the dryer, though and he had to order in parts. I had another experience with AHS and it was not good. It had to do with the fact that nobody wanted to come back here. We're up here in the mountains but we're not that far off of the main highway, so I don't understand. At the time, the heater quit working, so I called AHS. Then, I had to call the tech and he set up two appointments to come, but he never showed up.

So finally, I called back in to American Home Shield and they had to have somebody come up from Sacramento, which is 60 miles away. And the other guy was only coming from half that distance. So, it's not an issue with American Home Shield. It's an issue with whoever they're contracted to service this area. AHS should improve on this and having contractors out of Auburn would be ideal because we're about 15 miles from Auburn. Other than that, we've always had AHS and never had any problems. Times have just changed. But when we request them for service, our experience has been good.

I cleaned it all before the tech got here and put it back together again after he did that and took the back of it off. The tech was on time, polite and nice. He fixed it and it worked out great. He was the best tech that I've had on any of my service calls for other stuff years ago. He knew what he was doing and he was tidy. I'm pleased with him. If I were American Home Shield, I'd use him more often for people. He said he does Sub-Zeros refrigerators mostly, in St. Louis. Overall, HBC Mechanical was great. Mason Mechanical came out recently and they were great. The claims part with American Home Shield is good but the payment part of it is not. There's a lot of confusion going on. We just bought the house and it was with the mortgage that we got the warranty. The lawyer's office was supposed to pay the check to American Home Shield and the check did not get there in time. So they put a stop hold on the check and my Realtor called in with a credit card and paid for that over the phone. It's showing us the $465 was paid but it shows that there's another $465 that is not paid.

I had a problem with my refrigerator and also with my washer. For the refrigerator, it took about three days for somebody to come and take a look. On Wednesday, I submitted a request and somebody came on Saturday. The problem was not fixed on the first attempt. Then after two weeks, they had to come back and fix that problem. It was still not fixed. It was two times that they had to come. They couldn't repair the washer. It was not a repairable washer. They said they were gonna replace my washer, and it took a long time. The first time the contractor came to check and diagnosed that it was not repairable was October 20th. Then they didn't have anything in stock to offer me. That was the part I didn't really like.

I ordered the washer on Monday. I had to pay a little bit of money because it was an upgraded washer. Since then, nobody has contacted me when they're going to be coming to install my new washer. Today's November 19th. It's been a month. I am satisfied with American Home Shield overall, but I wouldn't say very satisfied because of these delays with my washer and for refrigerator too. It's finally fixed. But without a washer, it's hard. It's been a month.

I have had some difficulty submitting claims in the past, but the last couple of times have been much better. Now, they have people that speak English. Before I also had another issue where one person would say that they would take care of something and I would be transferred to another person. When the time comes, that rep doesn't take care of things.

A couple of years ago, I had a problem with the refrigerator. The first person I talked to told the technician that it wouldn't be covered. I talked to a department who said that they would take care of it but then never authorized things. So, when I called back, AHS didn't cover things. We ended up calling another repairman and paying him ourselves. That was a headache. In the recent past, I had a faucet replaced. Also, I called American Home Shield for my oven that wouldn't come on and they scheduled STAATS. They came the next day and fixed the issue.

AHS offers a tune up for the heat and air unit for winter and summer, and I try to always avail of that because we have an older system. We recently had May Heating and Air come out for the winter tune up and they also came out last summer because my air conditioner quit working. I've been very pleased with them both times. For my last claim, I submitted it online and the process was very simple. I am not a good computer person, so if I could do it, anybody can. Within an hour or so, they already processed it and got me in with the contractor. Then, within a day or two, the tech was coming out and things went very smoothly. The tech was very on time, explained any questions I had, and was very thorough. Everything was very clean, too. It happened that we had the same guy two times in a row and he was very professional.

Other than that, I got my best friend and sister to get AHS as well. I also had them in the last house and was very pleased. Then I bought this house about a year and a half ago where I got them again and I've been very pleased with them, too. I've kept them for many years and you can't get much better. I'm a single mom and it's nice to not have to worry a huge deal when something tears up.

My water went out about almost a month and a half. Sigmond Plumbing came out and replaced it. And then I paid $75 for him to come out, and then $460 because it didn't have an expansion tank. I just bought the home. They installed the new water heater, expansion tank, and then a line or something that’s longer. They were wonderful.

It took a while for them to come out for the air conditioning. But the gentleman came out and he was awesome. It was definitely leaking, but he said that sometimes, the condensation would cause that. I told him it's leaking a colored fluid. He said it needed a tray. They didn’t put a tray on underneath it. He was gonna send me how much it would be to see if they would put a tray in. Also, I asked the drain line because it's in the garage where it’s leaking and I can’t pull my car in there. I have a sports car and I don’t want it dripping on it. He said they would send me an estimate of what they would charge me to come out and put the tray in, and he thought that would be warrantied to move the PVC pipe over. But I haven't heard from him. Other than that, I called and they got me hooked up. That was great.

I'm from Washington State, and now I’m in Florida, and a few years since I’ve used Home Shield home warranty. I've had them on homes before. I had a pump that went out, but they never charged me a dime. The contractor came out and checked it out. They said yes, it needed to be replaced, and when they would be back to replace it. I also had an air conditioner on another home that wasn't producing overnight. So, I called because I didn't know what was going on. And of course, I had purchased Home Shield, and the tech came out. They replaced a new air conditioner outside and didn't charge me anything. The only thing I was disappointed in is they charge the 75 bucks, but I get it. There's a lot of fraud. And I'm sure because of the type of business they have, it becomes expensive when people are just trying to get away with stuff.

I talked to the air conditioning technician about that. He agreed that for whatever reason, they do have that now. He was informative. The gentleman that came out for the water heater, the same thing. Because they told me, it would be $460 and I went, “Whoa, wait a minute. I paid $75. That's all I was told to pay.” It was hard to fork out 460 bucks plus the 75. But at least they explained it to me and I understood.

My Realtor, because they're with Coldwell Banker, referred me and have the brochure for Home Shield. I get why, but going through the brochure, it doesn't stand out that you pay $75. I was shocked. And then later, the double shot, 460 bucks. So, in the brochure, it's great because you get to pick what kind you want, but it needs to be for the customer so they're not surprised that it's a $75. You're fulfilling your deductible. Other than that, both experiences as far as their technicians themselves were awesome. I know a couple that are buying a condo, and I told them they need to get the warranty because I bought the same thing for my daughter's condo.

Because I'm in the process of selling the home, and that was all I told him. I said, “Look, I just need you to check the wiring and to make sure that the breaker that's on that wiring is the right amperage.” And that's what he did. He looked at it, and he said, “Based on the wiring, it should be…” There was a 40 amp on there. He said it should be a 30 amp. He changed it to a 30 amp.

I have a three-year-old dishwasher and we had a leak coming down through the basement roof every time we were running it on a party that we thought. But it was actually from the sink that was a loose connection. We stopped running it. We also looked under the sink and tightened there up the same time, and the leak stopped. We called Home Shield and said that we have a leak in our dishwasher. They sent a guy who was the worst repairman of all time. He was rude to my daughter. He said that he knew what was wrong with it and that it needed a bunch of parts. He took a month and there was no response. I called Home Shield and they checked with him. He said that he was still waiting on the parts.

A week later, he came and I didn't see any parts with him. He pulled out the dishwasher and said there was some mouse poop in there. I said that we could clean it up and we didn't know that was there. He should've seen that the first time. Then he said he couldn't do it and that he had to come back. I told him that we'd get it cleaned up and call him back. I had it professionally cleaned and called him. He said he would come on a Thursday and gave us a four-hour window. He never called or showed up. My wife waited for him all day. I called an hour after he was supposed to come. He asked who I was and I introduced myself and reminded him that he made an appointment to fix the dishwasher. He said that he would not come back and hung up.

I told Home Shield about him. They sent a real repairman who came very promptly. He checked the dishwasher in and out, spent an hour, and there was nothing wrong with it. He ran a couple of cycles and it's been fine. The second guy was great, while the first guy was a disaster. Don't ever call JRS Appliance Repair on Long Island. Sears Repair Appliance is phenomenal and I recommend them highly.

There was a leak under the sink. We turn the water on and off. It was water constantly running from that point. Service people from DMV Plumbing and Heating came but they didn't fix the problem because they said American Home Shield didn't cover replacing the waterline. The only thing the warranty covered was replacing the faucet. If DMV were to fix everything, it was going to be $695 or 650 which was a crazy price. DMV ended up leaving and not doing anything. I ended up getting another plumber to do everything like replacing the faucet and the waterline and it was much cheaper.

That’s probably the second issue I had. I had another claim for the garbage disposal. It wasn't working correctly so service people came out. The blades had rusted away so the garbage disposal was not cutting. They tried to tell me that somebody broke the blades off. They didn't do that repair. The service people must not have had a lot of experience because that’s something that a plumber would know. I had to get somebody to install a new one for me.

There is no difficulty in the claim submission process of AHS. But if things are not covered and you report them, they should say that when the appointment is being made so people can save money. They wouldn’t have to pay that copay just for somebody to come out and tell them it’s not covered. That’s money wasted and nothing is solved.

Filing the claim is always pretty easy, just right on the website. But sometimes the website itself goes down. I tried to submit it last night. It said that I couldn't submit it at that time. There was an error. Now, I have to call or try and resubmit it again for someone to come out to see me the fourth time. It's a bit of a hassle sometimes, because you're on hold for a while. I understand there’s a lot of people that utilize the services. But if you've got certain types of issues, they should expedite that just to make it easier. Because a person who's just resubmitting a current service call, that's usually easy. We just want an appointment for someone to come back out.

And the other thing is I've been waiting for a supervisor to call me back since the 16th. I know everyone's working from home. The first person I talked to on the phone on the 16th, looked into my issue and then said, “Well, I can't really help you get to a supervisor because I'm from home, so I can't transfer you.” I said, “Well, can you go ahead and send a message to a supervisor to give me a call?” And she said, “No.” Because when she tried to help me, she contacted the supervisor herself. And she said, “Well, I've already contacted a supervisor, so I can't have one call you back because I've already contacted them and already talked to them about the issue.”

I said, “Well, I’d like to talk to them personally myself, because it seems like maybe there's a little disconnect in how you and I are functioning through this conversation. So if they can contact me, I can speak to them personally, we can cut out the middleman and just talk directly. Not like they would give me any favor because I'm talking directly to them, but at least they would be able to feel the call and make a decision instead of going through a third person.” And she couldn't do it. So, I said, “Okay, thank you.” And I hung up the phone.

I called right back and talked to someone. All they got was my information. And I said, “Can I speak to a supervisor?” She said, “Okay, well, I'll have one call you back.” Only problem is I haven't got one. But it wasn't like pulling teeth just to get to talk to a supervisor. I was denied before. But I still haven’t spoken to one. The reason why I need to talk to a supervisor is because this will be the fourth time someone will come out for the same call. This would be three times I have to take off work. The first time, I understood. The second time, if they need to order a part, I can understand.

But the first time the person came out, he said, “Hey, everything looks fine to us,” then they left. While they were there, it’s not drying the clothes. We put clothes in the dryer. And when they left, they were still drying. I called them back because I had their number from calling me. I said, “The clothes haven’t dried, even though it went through the whole cycle.” And she said, “Okay, I’ll have someone from American Home Shield reset up an appointment.”

Someone was supposed to come to my house on the 16th. That person didn’t call or show. I contacted American Home Shield and said, “What happened?” I had to take that day off of work, because the window of appointments was from 12:00 to 5:00. I can’t just take off five hours, right? They said, “Oh, the person had an emergency, and they couldn’t come.” And I was like, “You guys are my service provider. Why wouldn't you personally call your client and tell them that?Don't rely on the technician to call me to say, ‘I'm sorry, I got an emergency.’ If they got an emergency, they're probably not going to call, because they have an emergency, and that's more important. But you don’t send the text, you don’t send anything, you actually call. That actually should warrant a phone call.”

I’ve been in customer service for a while, so I would imagine you want to make sure you get in touch with someone is really my point. Whether you got a call twice, whether you got to text and call, make sure you get some sort of confirmation that the person knows that “Hey, you don't have to wait around for five more hours,” if they know early enough.

It was on the 16th when I called, I set up an appointment, the person came on the 19th. Perfect. He was the most educated. And he even told me why he was. He actually trains techs in the field, and he works for Sears. Some of the other people, they were like personal contractors that had their own company, which is no problem. This person works for Sears. He gave me some insight as to what could be going on and said, “Okay. This is something you need to try because, unfortunately, it’s gonna take you trying this to determine whether there’s really an issue.”

And he said, “The first person should have told you, ‘Hey, if all the tolerances look good, if the dryer seems like it’s getting hot enough, and if it’s cycling back and forth and doing all that stuff, then your next issue could be a flow issue.’ So we need to check the exhaust pipe, the ducting that goes in the back and exhausts it out of the house or whatever, we need to check that. The best thing to do is unplug that, dry a couple cycles. Clean the lint trap first, dry a couple cycles. You won’t get lint going through your hose until the second dry, and see if it’s actually drying the clothes.”

No one has ever said that. He said, “Well, the first person should have said that because there’s no way to determine if this is really gonna work unless you do that.” Because you could still have the same issue, which now I still have. We went through the two cycles. My wife, immediately, after he left, put in a couple loads of laundry. And the first one, because it was a lighter load, seemed to dry pretty well. Then we did a load with three towels and it had a couple of sheets. We just wanted to make sure it was something that held a bit more water after a wash cycle. The washing machine is actually new. They replaced that through American Home Shield about four months ago. So it's not the washer, it’s the actual dryer. So now, we have to make another service call, which I couldn’t do because when I logged on, it kept giving me errors, which I screen captured the error.

So to me, the service is just not consistent all the way throughout. If you got to train on it, great. You're there with someone or there are videos you can give to your employees, or whatever, but train on something because a consumer is paying every month. And this is insurance. You can go for five years without having an issue and paying $40 a month. But you want that assurance that if something goes down, it's taken care of.

But then when it needs to be taken care of, you have to have consistent lines of communication. You have to have consistent information. One person I talked to on the phone did not give me even the opportunity to speak to a supervisor. The next person, without even really having to go into my issue, the first thing I asked her for was to speak to a supervisor. She did her due diligence because as you pass the call forward, the supervisor needs to know who the person is. It’s not just take a random call from a person to a supervisor.

She said, “Is there anything I can help you with?” It’s just another form of “Okay, maybe we can help you right now.” And I said, “No, I've already talked to someone about this, but I do need to speak to a supervisor.” And she right away got me her supervisor. That should be every person's way of doing things. We know everybody's not alike. But especially with this Coronavirus stuff, and people are now working from home, as contractors or as employees, then it's not like you can just go and knock on the door of someone and say, “Hey, can you help me?” They've got to be trained up, because you're at home dealing with it yourself.

Other than that, when it finally gets to a point where the technician says, “Hey, this is what's going on, order the part,” Home Shield seemed good about their follow up on making sure that whatever the technician said needed to happen, happens. The problem becomes when it gets to ordering the part or making a determination or doing whatever, sometimes that takes a long time. What they basically said, and their agreement with us is, “Okay, when you have an issue, we strive to have someone out to you within 48 hours.” That's what the barometer was set at, within 48 hours, you should have a tech to you.

I’ve had refrigerator issues. I don't want a bunch of food spoilage and nobody's gonna pay for that, But it has taken two weeks to get someone out to meet at one point. It has taken almost a month to have one of my refrigerators that I have fixed first. Finally, they ended up just paying it out or replacing. But it took four weeks to determine that. So, that's inconsistent. Whereas, when the washer was replaced, the guy came out, he looked at it, the thing was unplugged, the washer was unplugged, he went into the washer, and he spun the tub with his hand. And you can see when he spun the tub, that the readout showed as if it was on when he spun the tub. He said, “Okay, I know what that issue is, we need to replace this.”

You can't always get that kind of quality service, but it's nice when you can. And it should be the barometer that that's the kind of technicians they have. Because it's a numbers game. The faster you can see, the faster you can determine what their issue is, the faster you can get it fixed. The more people you can see, the more people you can sign up, the better your company looks. Home Shield should set a bit higher level of service for their technicians that are in the field.

We had AHS with the other house 15 years ago and we have them in this house. I always tell others I wouldn't go with anybody else. Recently, the wife and I went food shopping, spent $350 and put all the food in the refrigerator on Saturday. I went to work Monday morning, came home in the afternoon and opened the fridge back up. It was warm and everything was gone. I know quite a bit about a lot of stuff around the house and it was weird because usually when a freezer goes, it wouldn't be the refrigerator part. But this has freezers on the bottom of the fridge and the whole thing was warm. The contractor came in two days but the part took a week. It wasn't hot like it usually gets around here in Virginia. If it was an AC, I could see a problem 'cause waiting on parts is common. But for a refrigerator and waiting a week, I'm upset about that. We went out to eat for the whole week.

We did a claim for the screw off knob on top of the filter. We also needed a gasket on the cover. It's the filter cover for the pool. American Home Shield got in touch with the company here and then the company got in touch with us. The tech came on a Tuesday the first time and he said the parts should be in by Friday. He was knowledgeable of fixing pools and friendly. But it took a little bit longer than they expected for the parts to come in. He called when they got the part. But when he saw the part, he felt like it wasn't the part. So I had to go outside and take pictures of it and send it to him while he was at the part place. They ended up giving him the part.

He came over that same day to replace it, but then there was an issue. The gasket was overstretched on it. We couldn't close it to turn the pool on to run. We had to call him back again and he tucked it in. The entire cover for the pool filter needed changing itself and we ended up buying it ourselves, which was unfair because we pay for American Home Shield.

I've been having a dishwasher problem for over a year and it's still not working right. This gentleman is now trying to help. But with him, there was the situation of the big storm that came through Pensacola and he lives there. He almost lost his roof so I kinda gave him a little leeway. He's been here several times. American Home Shield is spending much more money to fix this old dishwasher and they should've just gave me a new one. There was a talk about buyout, but they wanted to give me about $600 for a $1,300 dishwasher.

One of the things I'm dissatisfied with is the fact that no one has ever called me to find out if I was satisfied. Then a few months ago, the monthly price of American Home Shield went up but no one called me. I didn't receive a letter. When I looked, it went from 74 to 82. They just take money when they're ready and I thought that was a disrespect. But American Home Shield is good to have. I've had moments where I have had things repaired really fast and everything went really well, but this dishwasher has really been giving us trouble.

I've heard some decent things about Home Shield. I’ve had home warranty insurance before. It's okay for people in condos or newer construction. But I have an older house. So everything is not as simple. I told Home Shield what I needed. They sent someone, and he said that Home Shield doesn't cover that. And he didn't do that. The guy said Home Shield only covers toilet stopped or sink stopped. But Drano will cure that. I don't need to pay $100 service fee for that. It's one thing if you're doing work, to get your service fee to apply to that. But to have people come out both times and said, "Oh, we don't do that," or "I can't do that." I don't need to pay $100 to somebody telling me what they can't do.

The other guy came and it took me a month to get a faucet. I paid the service fee and a faucet $100 because I'm getting a fancy one. And it still took me a month almost or more to catch up with it. Not because the guy wasn't all right. But obviously that wasn't a priority on their agenda, which I understand for plumbers that's nothing. I'm not satisfied. I will cancel Home Shield. My contract ends next month. That will be the end of Home Shield for me. It doesn't make sense to pay for things that are not covered when they don't tell you they're not covered. And you pay $100 service fee. I might as well just call the right people to do the right job. Be very careful about reading what they cover and what they don't cover, because most things are not covered that are costly or need real expertise.

About three weeks ago, I put in a request to have my hood range repaired because it was not coming on. Home Shield sent me to the same company four times that does not fix my hood range. So, every time that company would send them back, “We do not fix this item.” After I talked to three different people on the phone, they finally put me in a queue where they sent me to a different company that did fix it. That guy had me take a picture of my serial number and model, and said he would go ahead and order the parts and get back with me. That has been over 10 days, going on two weeks, and I have called that guy twice to find out what the status is. I've not got a return callback at all. So, I am in limbo and still do not have my appliance fixed.

The claim has been open for at least three weeks. But it took a week of them sending me to the same company over, and then the next day, over again, then the next day, over again. I finally got us on to somebody that would work. I'm still waiting to hear back from that guy. When I've called before, I've had a contractor come out within 48 hours and be able to resolve the problem. Part of the problem was my customer service representative was possibly located out of the country, because they did not know where my hood range would be.

They gave me a window as to what time that they would be here and they told me that they were gonna call before they came. They did call before they came and they were within their time frame.

When they got here, I explained to them what the problem was. The tech immediately went to go and look at it and to kinda see what the problem was. He asked me a couple questions as to where my water valve shutoff was. They showed me where my outside shutoff valve was, so I thanked him for that. They rightfully went to work and within 30 minutes, they had the problem fixed. I was highly impressed. I learned a lot just from them asking me questions and trying to figure out stuff. Then I learned a lot about the different types of commodes and tanks.

I've had other home shields before. Their price was a little bit less. But after having problems with my refrigerator and having them to come out a couple of times and not getting the problem resolved, and then finally have it to cash out for my refrigerator, they cancelled me. American Home Shield was awesome then, even though it had to get a little ugly with them the last time. But as soon as I gave my grievances, they immediately came out and fixed the problem at my old house. So that made me reassured that they were gonna work at it to get it fixed. Even though it took a little time.

I would highly recommend them. The only thing that I kinda don't like about American Home Shield is the $125 service fee. I understand that I do pay a monthly service for it, but the service fee is a little uppity high. Maybe they could it lowered or make it comparable with the monthly service deduction. I'm not too happy about the whole time on the phone and waiting for them to get back to you. And then, I had to file a claim for something, and it took forever. The only challenge that I have with warranty companies is that they do basic stuff, and the customer has to pay for anything that's needed beyond the basics. That's the cost of replacing and the rest of it. They send a plumber out here, he does a basic thing. If I needed to have some pipes tripped and replaced, they will not cover that. For my money, it ain't good because they don't cover enough of the nuts and bolts that will pay for itself. I get charged every month and for that money, we're not getting the full benefit of having a warranty company that will come out and fix the problem without adding other charges to it that's not covered.

The motor went out in our AC and heating unit. I tried calling first but the wait time was too long. So I went on AHS's website and requested a service for repair or at least for someone to come out and look at what the problem was at the time. It was very seamless to use the website. Then I got a call back from Joe Cool’s and they said they could have someone come out that day, which was great. It was very timely, and I was not expecting that. The tech came out, looked at it, and knew right away what it was that needed to be repaired. He said he would see if the part was in stock and it was. Before he had even left, they called to say the part was in and they could come out the next morning to install the new motor. So he came back and installed it. It's been fine ever since.

I was quite pleased so far with the vendor selection and AHS's professionalism and their process. During the time that the tech came out, he kept his distance and wore a mask and went into where he needed to go and back out to his truck. He checked our thermostat down the hallway too. He kept me informed as to what he was checking for and what I had heard or experienced. So it was very thorough. Then I got a follow-up as well to rate the company and to rate for service, which I gave them outstanding scores and comments. The processing worked for me.

American Home Shield was worth the money. We just had to pay $100 out of pocket for the service fee. Having a home warranty with American Home Warranty and setting up the agreement initially and up until us having to use them was completely seamless and professional. The vendor that they chose was professional and friendly. They were skilled. They knew what they were doing.

The motherboard on the washing machine went out. It was about a five-year-old Whirlpool set. It was a high-end, top-of-the-line set we had paid about $4,000 for. We waited for about five weeks trying to get parts for it. Stephen from Gaige Appliance Repair reached out to a couple of other people he knew and we found out that Whirlpool no longer made parts for it. He was able to get a refurbished board for it. But a couple of days after we got the refurbished board, it went out again and then the drum started leaking. So we decided to buy a new set. This was the first time we filed a claim with American Home Shield but it was pretty easy. Stephen was great to work with and I'd use him again.

I was very happy with the technician. He was very professional and he knew his business. He talked to me throughout the whole time he was there telling me what he was doing and what they were looking for. It was a very pleasant experience. This is my first time having a home warranty and people often tell me that you don't get the top-of-the-line companies. They don't work with home warranty folks. But I didn't find that to be the case in this. American Home Shield did right by me in terms of the company that they chose.

I like Steinberg Plumbing because they were very hospitable and explained everything. They told me what the issue was and how they were going to resolve the issue. The only thing that is hard for some reason is when AHS does my payment. The first one would go through and the next day, it couldn’t. Other than that, I'm 100% happy and satisfied with the service and the people. I have no complaints.

I thought about having Home Shield for two years because my mother-in-law and father-in-law had theirs for about 10 years and they bugged us every year to get one. I even pulled it up one time, and then I got sidetracked and didn't follow through. We finally did it. Recently, our heater wouldn't click on. You could hear it in the attic trying to click on but nothing was happening. It kept trying to click on every 15 minutes, even though nothing was happening. South Placer made the appointment for two days later, which I was shocked about. I got a call at some point, it was scheduled between 12:00 and 6:00 and I got a call around 3:00 saying someone would be out 4:00-ish. And at 6:15, I started to panic because it was cold. So, I started sending emails. He showed up about 15 minutes later. But he addressed the problem right away.

He said it was a blower motor that was out. And he just got it turned over right away. He put one in, it wasn't the right size. He went and grabbed another one, got it in, and then he was out of there by 8 o'clock. He was super cordial and seemed to know exactly what he was doing. I was very happy with the experience with the exception of not being kept in the loop about him running late. But I was very happy with it overall.

My washer and my fridge went out. Axis Appliance Repair was assigned to the claim and they did well. The guy that came out here was wonderful. He came out here three times to try to help and fix the appliance. He kept having to go get more parts. Axis is waiting for the parts for the washer then they're gonna come back out for that. It's been quite a while. It's taking quite a bit of process and it's because of American Home Shield. Axis is just trying to get their approval from them. It's been a month and the washer is still not repaired.

In the case of my fridge, it is done for so the tech couldn't do anything about that. I was on the phone with American Home Shield for an hour and a half yesterday. I finally got the approval to get a new fridge but I'm still waiting on the email for the gift card so I can go buy a new fridge. The problem is I have a 5-year-old at home and we don't have a fridge. For a month, we've been eating out. It's just too hard. If American Home Shield could move the process a little bit faster, it would be wonderful.

I had another claim with American Home Shield. I had to get my air conditioner fixed and the tech put the antifreeze in. That was a lot smoother because they were right out and they were able to take care of the issue right away. But for my fridge, it's taking forever. And this is something I desperately need, especially with just me and my daughter at home. That aside, I would still recommend American Home Shield just for the fact that they were able to get me the new fridge and they are still working on getting the washer fixed. But as far as timely manner, it's definitely not the most convenient. They just take too long on things.

So, I needed to have someone that would pick up the responsibility because the warranties were out on the appliances. I had heard good things about American Home Shield. Prior to this last service call, I was very pleased with the service. The heating element on my oven has gone out and the local provider that I have that is in New Braunfels was shipped a part that was not good. So, I have now been without my oven for almost two months.

The problem is I have talked to two different customer representatives at American Home Shield and neither one of them spoke English very well, and I'm not sure if they understood what I said. I have been in constant contact with the local service provider. She has been trying to get ahold of them, too, because they cannot understand that the part that was sent is the wrong part. I wish they had people in their call center that can speak English.

I called American Home Shield on an issue with my dryer about two years ago, and they were very prompt. The service technician was really good. Under the circumstances, because of the COVID and what is going on with bringing parts in from overseas, I think everybody is having difficulty right now. I was referred to Home Shield by another veteran. When we purchased that home, it wasn't brand new. I've been with Home Shield for five years. I've never really had an issue where I felt like I needed to speak with someone until now. This latest incident, for the most part, Home Shield has been great. I had a couple of things that were breaking down at the same time. My biggest issue is I had called in about my garbage disposal, and Patriot Plumbing is the only contractor that Home Shield assigned for my area. So when the tech came, it was an electrical issue. He transferred it over to Electrical. And then Electrical showed me, and I plugged in my cell phone in the outlet, so it wasn't an outlet problem. Then it was transferred back to Patriot Plumbing, which they fixed the issue today.

My biggest complaint was with the customer service. Calling in, I understand COVID, it’s tasking, but no one was willing to help. I've had three agents hang up on me. I was insulted. I was hung up after having to wait 20 minutes. Anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes online, call backs just to speak to someone. The way that it's set up is not set up friendly for the customer at all. And then, I received an invoice stating that I owe $75. I didn’t understand, if it was being transferred back and forth, why would I have to pay an additional $75? I told the young lady, “I know I don't owe the $75, the cost of transfer. I think some of the agents had actually created a new invoice.” So, when she walked through everything with me, there were multiple orders that were created that should not have been, which prompted the charges. But in order for them to come back out, I went ahead and paid the $75 last night. This is one of the worst.

I had to deal with what I had to deal with. But as far as customer service and the inability to reach the escalation department or to reach a supervisor or someone of that nature is very difficult. And each time, with the exception of last night, the final young lady that I spoke with, there was a severe language barrier. I felt like they were reading from a script and they didn't veer from it. So, my issue was not addressed.

Because more than likely, the microwave is probably gonna have to be replaced.

I was having problems with an electronic gadget. The beep would come on all the time and it changes the temperature and so forth on the fridge. So, the technician tested it and then ordered the part. When the part came in, he installed it. I did the claim online and at first, American Home Shield gave me a contractor who would be contacting me. So, I waited until the next day. But he didn’t contact me. I called them and they said that it was gonna be a week before they could come out. So, I requested for another contractor and AH Appliance Repair responded. The tech came out quicker and it was very good dealing with him. Since the repair, I’ve had peace and quiet.

They said that it was caused by the hot water. So, he turned the hot water off. But they didn't tell me they weren’t gonna turn it back on. But that was my only issue. For appliances and plumbing, AHS is definitely a good investment to have.

I had one company come out, and they did not really diagnose the problem correctly. I had a different company that American Home Shield assigned to me. It was my air handler that the techs replaced. It took two months for American Home Shield before they had someone come and fix the issue. That was a problem being in 90 degrees heat this past summer for two weeks with no air conditioning. Once they did fix it, it worked as far as the air conditioner was concerned. When the weather changed and it got cool, I turned it on to the heat, and the heat did not keep. I called American Home Shield back and the techs did another visit. It turned out to be the thermostat that was faulty. They replaced that, and I haven't had an issue since.

It's been very frustrating dealing with American Home Shield. When you call, you have to sort of start from the beginning every time. They tell you the same thing, that they're working on it or they're going to call you back. They may call you back, and then you may not hear from them at all. Then you have to just continue to call and call. You eventually do get through to somebody who will help you. Communication is a big serious issue. Part of that is because most of their consumer service people are outsourced. Nobody is in the United States at all. So, you get a communication issue where you’re not understanding what they are saying. You're not understanding their speech and they aren't understanding your speech. Even though they have all been very nice and sweet and nobody has ever been rude at all, it's frustrating that you have to continue to call back constantly in order to get put through to somebody who will help you.

Also, if you cannot get through to someone who can help you, they won't put you through anybody else. You beg, “Please put me through to the supervisor, somebody else who can do something,” and they won’t do it. They say that they will take care of it, and that they will get back to you. They don't keep their promises. I don't feel that they should be outsourcing their representatives. If they're an American company then they outsource their people to foreigners, that doesn't give a good image to me. For someone who is looking for a home service, I would not recommend this company at all. Even when I wanted to cancel my service, they wanted me to pay a fee to cancel my contract. I have not been happy with it at all.

When filing claims, I'd go online, get my account number, and describe the basic problem. AHS called within an hour or so and said they were sending somebody over. They told me the name of the company that was going to send in the gentleman that was going to do it. I'd like to be able to get on a phone and not have to wait a long period of time and give them a description of the problem because sometimes doing it online doesn't give all the options. They give blocks to check off. I had an outside water faucet that wasn’t working and I had an inside valve that wasn't working. They don't give that option. I just got to put down two valves that are not working. If they would add notes to that online option, that would help. The plumber came in and switched out two valves. I've used AHS two or three times and they've been pretty good each time.

The first technician came out, did some troubleshooting, and found the problem. Ordered the part. The part came a couple of weeks later. Sent a second technician out. He came in, put the part in, and the washer worked. So, as far as the overall experience, it’s pretty good. Very professional, friendly, and informative. They told me what they would do and whatnot. The overall concept is a pretty good concept. Home Shield's process of repairing costs money, but you get a good value out of having it. Because they come out, and they fix it without having you paying that full price upfront. That’s good.

In my past experience, it was an HVAC issue I had about a year back or so that has been going on. Apparently, Home Shield assigned the job to one particular contractor. And then after a month, I didn’t hear anything. So, I called the contractor up and they said they didn’t have a contract with them anymore. Home Shield should either keep the people on the contract more informed about what's going on as far as, “We’re not gonna use this particular contractor,” instead of waiting for a month to go by, for myself to call in to find that out. Because it was in the summertime, it was an AC problem. You could do better along the line of communication and be more consistent with the contractor they use. If you want to put a job out to one contractor, and the contractor came in and did the job for you, and then come back and say, "We're not gonna use that contractor no more," that is a confusing situation.

I understand there may be some problem internally with that particular contractor, but still, let us know what's going on versus having us to wait a month and then have to call the contractor for the contractor to tell us, “No, we’re not on that job anymore. They gave it to somebody else.” So, if they did, why am I waiting a month or so to get the service?

American Home Shield sent out a technician to our house and he seemed a little bit sketchy at first. He was already making claims that it wasn't covered, even before he looked at it. I called and I asked AHS if they were supposed to put in prior authorization before the contractor works on it because how would I know if something is covered. The rep said the tech hasn't put anything. He was already working on it and he hasn't made sure it was covered.

Then, he broke the front paneling of our garage door motor and left it open. When my husband approached him about it, he was kind of being threatening and my husband told him to leave. The guy left and put in a note to AHS. As soon as we tried to put our garage door down, the whole thing buckled. The arm went to like the left and the wiring was snapped. The only thing that was wrong with it before was that it wasn't opening or closing.

We called AHS and it sounded like we got someone from overseas because she wasn't really understanding what we were saying. She kept saying she'll put in a notice to her upper management and it could take 24 hours for them to get back to us. I told her I needed someone to come out ASAP because we have expensive things in the garage and we couldn't leave it open. We had to call someone else out to come and fix and shut our garage for us. And AHS still hasn't called us yet. We've had other claims with AHS but we never had any problem. This was the first time that we had someone like that here.

A gentleman and a younger guy came out the first day, and the thermostat was ordered. It was a totally different guy that came in and put the thermostat in the refrigerator and then did the switch on my hood vent over my stove, which is working fine. After the tech fixed the refrigerator, it ran good. I didn't put a lot of food in it at first. I waited till Thanksgiving because it was coming and when I put all that in there, it's freezing up again in the refrigerator section. It didn't last long.

The refrigerator is 15 years old. It’s a good refrigerator. They just got to figure out why it's freezing in the bottom section. I blocked off the back where they told me when I called it in the first time. They said that if I block off this vent in the refrigerator section, it would stop everything from freezing. So, I have two cans side by side sitting in front of it and they're taking the brunt of the cold air. It's helping but I hadn't gotten around to calling because right after Thanksgiving, I had to go back to work. I should have called by now. The sales agents state that the contract covers all systems and appliances that you have chosen during the process of signing up no matter what age condition etc. They state you submit a request for service, someone comes out directly and your issue is taken care of right away. Some facts are, the company uses terms as expedited service request vs. actual service request such as what they determine urgent not you as the customer so if you have an emergency of no hot water, no heat, cooling, this is not included as expedited and is not explained anywhere in the contract. Also sales does not explain this to you. You as the customer are not entitled expedited service request 99.9% of the time. We experienced no Hot water as main source of hot heater stopped, called for service. Told it was expedited. It was not, told service was on its way, was not.

The company chose to delay the time of getting parts as they chose to use the system warranty vs. paying for it as they agree to when customer pay for this service as the warranty every month or year. The temperature in the area was 30’s with no hot water in my home for more than a week. More than multiple calls to the company no care to resolve. Moreover the company has no contact information for an escalation/resolution department. The corporate contact number is not reachable. It connects to the customer service number. Beware of this company. If you cannot reach anyone except customer service around the world that should tell you something. If you cannot file a formal complaint with the company that should also be red flag. When you see the commercial on tv it's so not true to what American Home Shield stands for or actually does.

But with the heating and air, and the refrigerator, the technician had been great, clean, and neat. Recently, we have two heating units and one of them was not maintaining temperature. Express Comfort Heating and Air came and changed some kind of gas valve then they had to come back and repair something else because it was still not working right.

I filed it online and it was a fairly easy process. My biggest concern with doing it that way is I can't really tell AHS exactly what's going on. They give a dropdown and I got to pick what's in the dropdown. I can’t explain the problem better. Right now, we actually have not only the heating and cooling, but we also have a claim in for our refrigerator, and it’s been broken for about a month. The same company keeps coming back. But then we had to put in another claim, and it's all online. When we call, we can't get ahold of somebody. But then, we've had pretty good experiences with them.

I was kicking myself for not owning a home warranty a year ago because in February, my refrigerator had to be fixed and it cost me $600. A home warranty could’ve saved me $500 or so on the repair that happened last year. This time, I bought a home warranty and then the icemaker went out. It's on the refrigerator in the condo that we rent. The company that came out was great. The thing I liked the very best about them was they contacted me ahead of time (the day before and on the day of). They contacted me to tell me about what timeframe. They not only contacted me to say the person is on the way, they also sent me a text message with the picture of the person that's going to be coming. That was huge.

I never had anything do that before, so I knew exactly what the repairperson should look like before he even got there. That was exceptional. When the guy got there, he was really quick. He didn't take a long time to figure out what was wrong and to explain that he couldn't use the stuff on his truck. He needed to order the part from American Home Shield. The company also contacted me to say the part is in and to schedule a time to put it in. I would definitely use them again. The tenant sent me a message saying the ice maker is working excellently, and he was thrilled as could be. He's the kind of guy who likes to do everything himself and he was super impressed with the repairperson and at how quickly they got it fixed.

The reason I chose American Home Shield is because my daughter has it. She's in Florida, she has a house and she purchased the home warranty. She has had wonderful experiences with them taking care of her heat and air system. When I suggested I was getting a home warranty, she highly recommended them. I didn't even shop around. I just got them. I'm very happy with it. They protect the components that they say they're going to. They don't come out and say, “Oh, well. That's not covered,” or “We can't fix that.” The heat and air service that I have now already told me, “Oh, you're going to have to replace that unit.” They have a vested interest in declaring my unit dead and me buying a whole unit from them whereas American Home Shield's goal is to fix the unit first.

This is the thing that I love about it and this is what I tell people. They will replace the unit if it cannot be fixed, but if it can be repaired, it will be repaired. The quality, the service and the follow-up are excellent. If I just had one or two service calls in the year, that pays for the whole warranty. I've already made back at least half or more of what I paid for the whole year to cover everything on that one icemaker call. The value is good 'cause somebody would charge their time out, and then they would’ve charged me for the part and for replacing it. That would’ve been a $300 icemaker.

Recently, we had a stoppage in the plumbing and leaks going under the house and through our floor. I asked American Home Shield for a plumber and I also asked for a second part of the problem which was a dishwasher that was also leaking. First Class Plumbing came out and it was excellent with them. They took care of the job for the plumbing. The dishwasher's motor was rotten under the bottom and the guy unplugged the sink with the plumbing. He noticed we needed to do a new piping for the laundry room which connects there. We're waiting to see if AHS could do coverage on it. If not, then we have to pay it. We didn't have the sink for a week. I had a big pail underneath it to do dishes ‘cause the dishwasher just came in today and we're waiting for that to be installed. We do a lot of dishes and we have to carry the bucket of water outside.

I've been a customer for over 20 years and though I don't call for many services, I've never had a problem with American Home Shield. I have two separate incidents recently. The first situation was the toilet was overflowing. I called them and they got me a plumber. He said he couldn't get out here that day but I needed somebody that day too with the situation that was going on. I called American Home Shield back and got a lady on the phone. While I was on the phone with her, the toilet was overflowing again everywhere. She claimed that she called four places and nobody could come out. I was saying to myself there's gotta be some kind of an emergency service and she hung up on me.

In my frantic, I called my daughter. She called Roto-Rooter and they were out here in like 30 minutes. I sent an email yesterday and attached the invoice that it cost me $396. I cancelled the service call so that they would give me back the $75. A couple of days later, the garbage disposal dismounted from the sink. I called American Home Shield again and got another work order. The guy came out at like 7 o'clock at night. He put the garbage disposal up. I called back because there was water dripping from the bottom of the garbage disposal. He came back and told me there was no leak. I have a bucket underneath the garbage disposal and there was soapy water in there from doing dishes. I took pictures and videotaped it.

They had an email service on the plumbing website and I sent them the pictures. The boss called me and asked what was the problem. I said, "Your guy has been out here twice telling me there's no leak when I have water all under the sink. I'm also worried about mold." I called American Home Shield again 'cause the guy had zeroed out the service call. They did send me another plumber and in 25 minutes, the guy put in a new garbage disposal and everything was fixed. They even followed up with me. They were fantastic and I would recommend them to anybody. My reverse osmosis was leaking as well and the guy said, "I don't have the part but I could tell you what to buy. If I had the part on the truck, I'd fix it for you." He told me where to go and what to buy, and my girlfriend and I fixed it in two minutes. He was excellent.

When I called to find out what was happening with the toilet situation and if I could get any reimbursement, the lady on the phone told me that an emergency service was never put through so that I could have had an emergency service come out here and not pay almost $400. The one time that I needed American Home Shield, it had to be $500 for the year, an additional $75 and the $396. That's not right. The Roto-Rooter guy also told me that because the toilet was overflowing the way it was, I should get somebody out here to check the mold. I didn't do that because I can't afford that. If American Home Shield would have gotten me somebody out here sooner, maybe I wouldn't even have to address that situation. It's the same thing when water was dripping under the sink for days. I don't know if there's gonna be any mold under there and that other idiot told me there was no leak but he was stuffing up the towels there.

My wife did a claim to American Home Shield on their website. We got a text message saying that my contractor had been assigned. They called us the next day to set up an appointment. When they came out, they introduced themselves and then they went right to work. They were professional, courteous and they did their job. They let me know what they thought the problem was and then they told me what the next steps would be. They kept me informed, so that was good. Home Shield met all my expectations of what a home insurance company should do.

The contractor looked at my garbage disposal, diagnosed the problem, and said I needed a new one. American Home Shield replaced it with no problem. I have used them for my HVAC unit as well. So far, everything I've done has been good. I noticed that some of the vendors that they deal with try to upsell you, but I don't think that's American Home Shield’s problem. The vendors fix one thing, and then they say, “Well, we can do this for you. We can do that for you. You need this. It's going to be an extra $500 for that.” I tell them, “Well, I don't need that right now, so that can wait.” Besides that, the process worked well.

I had the water backing up from the garbage disposal side over to the rinse side. When it comes down to trying to reach Home Shield, it takes a while to try to get ahold of them because they have so many people ahead of us. But then, Island Mann came promptly. If they couldn't make that specific date, they still agreed with a time frame that allowed me to be present for them to come and do their work.

What the man found was that the garbage disposal was okay. But he found that there was a pipe that needed another connection to it because it was leaking water down under the sink. I told him I had a problem with the sink backing up on rinse side of the what-you-call-them so they need to check the garbage disposal to see if that was the problem. Also, it leaves a foul odor inside of the dishwasher. Since then, Everything has been performing fine. I have not seen any water under the sink. I also have had two other things done here. I had the Roto-Rooter man come and I also had the dishwasher and stove.

I was telling the man that Home Shield keeps going up on the prices. I've been with them since I had this house built in ‘96. We’re almost close to the same price as what the charge would be when the techs come out. Then Home Shield charges your card before the man comes and does the work. So, if the man can’t come on that particular day and he can’t come on the following week, your card has already been debited for $75.

Right now, I'm at $70 and some cents for a monthly charge from my contract and thing where other people are paying lesser than that with Home Warranty and other places. I understand they're trying to get their amount, but when you get up at a certain age, you got a fixed income. You got to give an account of everything that you put out. I understand everybody got to have a price. But when next year comes, that price is going to match what I'm paying for the service fee. How does that help me as a customer? Other than that, whoever they sent here was very courteous with their service and did what was necessary to do what was required.

The dryer wouldn't turn on. I checked to make sure it wasn't an issue with the power. I tried to diagnose it myself and I couldn't, so I called the experts. I put the claim in on a Saturday and I got a notification that someone should get in touch with me. I didn't hear anything from anybody, so I contacted the contractor on Monday. They said they didn't have anything on their record and recommended I contact American Home Shield. I contacted AHS and they said it was overbooked and they would have to get another contractor out here.

I got a notification that Appliance Repair Ohio would be coming out and that went well. They notified me the day they were gonna be coming out and I got a text message that said a window of when they should be getting here. The technician himself sent me a text message to let me know that he was gonna be here that day and then followed up with another text message when he was about 20 minutes away. But I didn't know ahead of time that my dryer wasn't gonna be fixed that day. The first day is just a diagnosis. He did the diagnosis on Thursday and on Sunday, I hadn't heard anything back. I called AHS and they said they were expecting the part to be available a week later. But the part came in on Monday and the tech came back to fix the dryer.

The thing I'm not satisfied with AHS is communication. I get that they are working with the subcontractor to come out and do the work so there are gaps in communication and relating the information. But I wish there was something where when a technician said they've diagnosed a problem and are getting approval, AHS would generate an email to their clients for updates on parts - when they're expecting it to come and when the contractor would come out. COVID plays an issue because some parts aren't available as readily as they used to be in the past and I understand that aspect of it. I just wish there was better communication.

I couldn't do that online as AHS goes through their database and chooses whoever they want to send for me. So if I get hit with an air conditioner, a furnace, a plumbing leak, and a washing machine all at once, I'm covered. I wish I would have had it when I was a younger first-time homebuyer because those expenses can really damage the bottom line every month when starting out. American Home Shield is a good deal. I just don't take the time to really analyze the financials of it because I feel good having it.

American Home Shield hires the lowest contract price that they can get but that doesn't always mean they're bad. It's just a hit or miss. I had drywall repairs that I never got reimbursed years ago. The American Home Shield customer service is lacking on stuff like that. But most recently, the garbage disposal they put in doesn't work.

Drain & Plumbing Services came when the garbage disposal pipe was leaking. They said that it was piped wrong. It was odd because I had various stuff done and it all seemed fine. Then they said that I had to pay them $500 over and I went on faith with that. The guys did it but when they left, there was still water leaking. They had to come back and redo it. Now, it's not working at all. Sometimes, the switch goes bad up there. You press the switch on the light switch that turns it on and you get nothing. So I have to figure out how to do that.

Allen Appliance Service came out the first time for our built-in icemaker claim. They replaced the pump that was bad and it wasn't making ice sufficiently. It was only making about 10% of what it’s supposed to. The same guy, Craig, came out again after I did a recall request and he determined that the radiator was unusually caked up with dust. He claimed it and he said that he was sure that it was the problem. Now it has started making ice again. Craig is an outstanding representative.

I've had Home Shield for over 20 years. I let it expire earlier this year over something I wasn't happy about. Then I waited for five months and decided I'd go back with them. I call in to submit a claim since I have had difficulty getting my account correct online. I've talked to American Home Shield about this on a long phone call a few weeks ago. Since I had the old account for so many years, I still had that set up and it would show, “Expired.” So, when trying to open a new account on the site, I will go through all the processes and then it will come up and throw up the old account again. So a rep told me how to fix that. And I've now done that. I'm not opposed to filing a claim online, but I like talking to somebody. American Home Shield has always been very reactive, so no problems there.

I am very happy about my service with American Home Shield. I am a senior and AHS has been such a blessing to me. I was able to get large items repaired or replaced. Their service is quick and there is always consistency with their customer service. There's never negativity or I never have to worry that they won't fix something. AHS always came through. And people that they schedule to do the work have been excellent. I've just been so pleased. My son had kind of crossed me about getting the home warranty service a few years when I first told him about it. But I was stubborn and told him I was gonna do it. I've been so ever grateful.

I keep telling everybody that has a home about AHS. My niece is also a senior citizen and a single woman. I told her about AHS but she said there are several other companies. I told her that I really think she would be happy with AHS. My granddaughter bought a home and they had everything remodeled. They have all new appliances so they still have warranties on them. I'm trying to talk her into getting AHS. I told her that AHS fixes other things like a furnace that they already have, their air conditioner, and their water heater. Those are things my granddaughter didn't replace.

Our kitchen sink, dishwasher, and disposal were all not draining. The dishwasher and the disposal were holding water. And the only way that you can get it out was to literally take the piping and let it drain into a bucket. Leak Seekers came in and their plumber did what he did and magically, everything started to drain properly. It was very professional and very quick. He knew exactly what the problem was. It was fast, efficient. It was pretty easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield. Their warranty is great but the contracting service they send out is a hit or miss. We’ve had some poor cases before. But I have no problem recommending Leak Seekers to somebody else with a plumbing need.

The claim was $700 and it’s a $900 washing machine. And then on my dishwasher, which wasn't very old, the motherboard went out. The guy put a new one in and it works fine now. He's a very nice man. I'd go online when submitting a service request and sometimes, I'm not sure if what I put there is correct because American Home Shield would put in the wrong thing I was putting in a service request for. So, then I followed up with the call. My concern is that the people they choose to do the work is really not close. It appears to me that my request seems to take a little longer because they're not local. I'm in Northern New Jersey and the people they are sending me are coming from Southern New Jersey, an hour away.

Liberty Plumbing & Heating was great. They came out and did a maintenance heating check for me. Then they came back out when I had something going wrong with the heat. We are currently waiting on a part for something so that hasn't been resolved. But they didn't make me put in a new ticket because it was part of the last request. Lisa was great. She would call me back, tell me what's going on and what they could and couldn't do. If there was an issue with our appointment, like I needed to move it up because I wanted to go to work half a day, she was usually good at working with me with that.

However, I was really upset because the first request I put in for a leaking issue in the home, American Home Shield gave me to someone called Mr. Plump, who was really far like in Wellington, New Jersey. I asked the lady if they service my area and she was insistent to not worry and put the request in. Then they sent me a message that the appointment’s been scheduled with this contractor. I followed up with Mr. Plump with a phone call. The guy said that he doesn't service my area. I called the lady back immediately and told her that. She said she couldn't cancel it until he emailed her and tell her he doesn't service. I said that he sent an email and that I was calling to tell her that he said he could not come. Finally, I called Mr. Plump back. He said to have them call him and he would tell them he sent them an email.

It takes 24 to 48 hours for someone to get assigned, then it takes another 24 to 48 for someone to come out so you lose time when you're waiting on someone who already said he's not coming. She reassigned me to Young's Water and Sewer guys and they were pretty far as well. I asked if she was sure that they service this area and she said yes. She would cancel Mr. Plump. I called Young's Water and Sewer on a Thursday or Friday and the guy said that they service the area and that they would come. He gave me an appointment for Monday. We got to live to the leak over the weekend. We couldn't use the toilet and the house was smelling.

Monday came and I took off from work. I didn't have a confirmation that anyone was on their way. I read somewhere on their website and there was a person complaining that they never showed up, so that made me really nervous. I called them and they said that they were down a plumber and it was 11 or 12 o'clock that time. I asked if they thought of calling me. They said they called and left me a message. There was no way that they left me a message and I was sitting at home when I could have gone to work. I told them that I would go to work and needed the next day off and work something out. I was very upset about that. He said they would come the next day, Tuesday, the same time between 11:00 AM and 3:00. I did not accept that appointment because I've already wasted a day and sat home practically all day. I told them to give me something earlier in the morning and at least let me be able to go to work half a day.

They called me back and scheduled something between 7:00 AM and 11:00, then they called back and said 8:00 AM and 11:00. They finally got there at 11:00 and did the job. They were in and out and were professional. This is my third or fourth time using American Home Shield. I'm new with them and I'm still working out the kinks.

I was having some trouble with my dishwasher. It wasn't cleaning very well and wasn't drying at all. I was also having some issues with my stove. The fan wasn't turning on, so the front vent and the top element weren't working. The repairman said that both of them needed to be replaced. The vent wasn't turning on because the main board on the stove was bad and that stove is no longer made nor parts for it. Then with the dishwasher, he said that the tub was rusting out and that it needed to be replaced. The experience with American Home Shield has been fine except for the long hold time. I recently enrolled my mother in Home Shield and the salesperson told me that she could do more than one service request, like if it was electrical and plumbing, she could call both of them on the same service request. I called back just to confirm that and they told me they would look into it and get back with me but no one ever got back. We had a couple of things that weren’t working and the guy found out right away what one of them was. He also found out right away what the other one was. I had about four different electrical outlets that weren’t working and he got them all working. One of the sensors was wrong. I didn’t even know we have that sensor and he fixed that. He did a real good job. He was neat and he wore his mask. Out of 10, he did 10. He knew what he was doing and checked everything.

AHS is worth the effort and money and I feel like I’m not getting taken advantage of. If you call a guy for an appliance, suddenly it’s $700. With them, it’s like 70 bucks. It’s easy for me to budget on repairs that way and I feel comfortable in what they fix. Filing a claim with them is fairly easy except when you have more than one item so sometimes you have to call back about that. I’ll wait to call them sometimes. For the outlets, we worked around it for a while. Then I had a guy come for the washing machine. He rebalanced the machine. The only thing is I got one or two contractors that I don’t like and it’s kind of hard to say, “Don’t send those guys.”

I took care of submitting the claim over the phone. It worked well. And then, the guy came in on time and took care of the thing. He didn't change out to throw it in the sink. But they call it gooseneck. He put in a new garbage grinder, and it doesn't leak. And the garbage grinder works, so that's all good. The techs didn't leave any debris and took the old garbage disposal away. Everything was fine. However, be very careful. When any problem happens around the house, don't try to take care of it yourself and don't call any professional to take a look at it. Because if you do, you get screwed. That's what happened to my air conditioning.

My air conditioner guy came to maintain the system. And he said, "It's a problem. You're going to have to have a new unit on the roof." He opened up the system to maintain it, which is a standard procedure. And Home Shield's guys came to look at it. Then I called, and I didn't have him repair. I said, "I've got insurance for that." So, I called Home Shield. I said, "You need to come and take a look at it 'cause my AC's out." Guy looked at it, and he said, "They opened up the cabinet, and so, therefore, we have no responsibility." I got screwed out of about $6,500.

If you're doing normal maintenance on your own equipment, which has to be done in order for any equipment not to fail, and if there's any evidence that anybody's ever worked on it, except somebody that Home Shield called, they will not pay for any repairs or maintenance. That's not right and unjust. You don't buy insurance for that. That's like putting out a fire before the fire existed.

I will tell everybody that asked me about Home Shield that that is a problem. You gotta make sure that you figure out how nobody is gonna look at any of your equipment that's malfunctioning. And because if anybody else looks at it, Home Shield isn't gonna cover it. If they didn't pay for all of it, they ought to at least split costs on it. Because I didn't go into the thing wholeheartedly and try to tear it up so that you could repair it. I went into it as a maintenance system. If I hadn't paid for my own maintenance and the thing malfunctioned because a bearing worn out because I hadn't maintained it, then it would be different. But this was normal maintenance.

The plumber called me and within an hour, he was at my home. I had a leaking faucet and he fixed that. I had another area that had a leak but it wasn’t leaking when he came so he couldn't see where it was coming from. He advised us to call back when it starts to leak again. He said that if the leak was coming from the spot where we saw it, the floor would have to be dug up in the bathroom. AHS doesn't pay for that so, I would have to pay for the floor to come up in order for him to get to the leak. And that was one thing I wasn't happy with because if something needs to be fixed, it needs to be fixed. I assumed that to at least demolish and then replace with existing material would have been covered under my warranty. But as far as what was fixed this time and how quickly he responded and his demeanor, I was happy with that. He was friendly, personable, thorough and professional.

There was an issue one time when I had to make a phone call to AHS about my water heater. It ended up being resolved but had I not been persistent and argued my point, I would have not been reimbursed for my water heater. I was not happy with that experience to begin with. That was kind of a fiasco, having to get a hold of people, speaking to people that barely spoke English, being on hold forever, and being told one thing and then another happening. That was during the first year I had the warranty. If you're not going to stay on top of it, then there's a chance that it might not work for you. I also had something else fixed before where it had a clog in the line and then my sink was leaking. But that was handled properly.

The claims submission process is fine, but it's all an automated system and there's no way to communicate that you need something escalated. I wish that they had an option for when you need more immediate attention, even if you had to pay a little more for that. On a different note, there are times that American Home Shield is definitely beneficial. I had an expensive part on an air conditioner and it only cost me the service fee. The motherboard would have been $1,000. There are years that I don't use American Home Shield at all, but I'm a single woman. Everything with American Home Shield is hit-or-miss. My first experience with filing a claim was terrible. But since then, I've had a couple pretty good ones. The warranty came with the home I just purchased, and I closed on it in late July of this year. I had two beneficial experiences. One was I had a rekey and the I had two HVAC things done. They were like a free winter heating check-up which went really well. I also had an issue with the air conditioning earlier that did work too well. That got fixed pretty nicely. The plumbing service call went poorly. Unfortunately, that was the first one too.

The guy that came, Matt, was from Flowright Plumbing. I had to place a service call because I had a sink that was not draining properly. So, first, it started okay. They dispatched the guy pretty quickly. The guy came over. He had been at my place for only like a minute. He looked at the thing and said, "The drainage pipe was not installed correctly and needs to be reinstalled, so I need to contact the warranty folks to see whether or not the service will be covered." I said, "Okay. Well, let me know." I didn't hear from him. A week or more went by without hearing from anything. I don't have any means to contact these guys directly, so I contacted the Home Shield customer service. Over the course of six weeks, I contacted them many times. Then I kept getting different service advisers who would promise me that they would do something but they had to contact the company one more time to see if they would file this claim thing.

I said, "Well, every time I do this, you guys tell me the same thing, that you have to contact him one more time. Stop contacting him, because he doesn't respond. Now give me another plumber." They never did. Finally, I hired a plumber on my own. That service thing was never resolved through AHS. So, that was my biggest disappointment. I'm still kind of stung from that first series of disappointments where I had to deal with many customer service agents, and none of whom helped me over the course of many weeks. That was a real poor representation of American Home Shield.

When submitting claims to American Home Shield, it's mostly a simple process. The only problem is the vendor they refer me to is hard to get ahold of. I have to call American Home Shield back to let them know that the vendor is not responsive and to find me another vendor. And they do. Everything is working pretty good. Once I submit a claim, I get the updates and emails.

There was a problem with our refrigerator icemaker. That kind of happened a few times in the last couple of months. I realized that it must be some issue. I called American Home Shield and a technician with Sears came. He checked the refrigerator and identified the problem area. He ordered the needed parts and replaced the parts. It's been a week and it's hard to say if the problem has been permanently fixed. But our refrigerator is working and everything's okay now.

Greenway Home Services came to see what was going on with my heating unit. Sometimes it was coming on, and then sometimes it would go off. I've had service through Greenway before, and I prefer them as a provider to come out and look at my services. To file claims to American Home Shield, I would just go online, put in my account information, select what service I need, and then pay my fee. I would get an email with what contractor was gonna come out and then I just wait for them to come. They would call me and come within 24 to 48 hours.

I just had an incident when there was an issue with my dryer. We did get it fixed as soon as I was able to get a hold of the correct department. Due to the public health crisis, it was just a longer wait-time than normal to get things resolved. Within three days, I had a new dryer. I was referred from family members to have American Home Shield. For me being a single parent, it’s less costly for me to do that than to have to try to scrape up money to get someone to come in and fix a heating unit or to replace an appliance if it goes out. So for me, it was well-worth the money spent, because the money that I've paid out for the service, I've probably received more than the amount of coverage for it.

He checked it out and said that the problem was the igniter. He got everything repaired and did really well. It was a good experience.

I've been real happy with American Home Shield. Normally, they're very responsive. They send good people. I have not been unhappy with any company that they sent to the house to fix anything. Even if they have to come back, it's just a few days. However, it's taking way too long to get my parts in and get my washing machine fixed. It sounds like it's gonna blow the walls every time I turn it on. The guy that came out and looked at it said that if it was him, he would simply replace it. If not, they have to do a whole rebuild. But American Home Shield would probably want rebuild which is exactly what happened. It's been over a month already so that got me kind of flustered. I don't know what's up with this washer other than the guy was probably right. It should be replaced than fixed.

I hate the automated system for requesting service. It takes too long. You can't get to where you need to go unless you do all their steps even when you know where you need to go. It ignores you and starts asking the same question over again. I just need to tell a person what I need and get on with it. I don't need to go through an automated system for 15 minutes then it would say, "Let me give you a representative." They need to get rid of it. It's a pain. Also, it seems like everybody that they do send out are not local. Tempo HVAC installed my system. They're the only ones that have ever worked on it. Yet, they can't do anything because they can't get through an agreement with American Home Shield. But I should be able to use them if I want and get reimbursed up to a certain amount. There should be a little more flexibility for the customer.

The builders, Don Martin, went cheap and installed AC units that are too small for the entire neighborhood. This is a zone thing and the AC has to work over time to cool or heat upstairs and downstairs. The guy from Myers Comfort Specialists came in and figured out exactly what it was. He was great. He got the part and he fixed it within five minutes. We've used American Home Shield for years. We had a home before in Enterprise, Alabama, and we used them back in 2011. It has been beneficial because it's easy. I don't have to call around and try to get somebody out here. American Home Shield does that, and it's done.

I had a problem at first and Nussbaumer Plumbing came and fixed it. The lady said it was gonna flush by itself. It sounded like it was running. I called and they made another appointment for me. They had to give me all new fixtures because of the water situation. They cleared everything up for me and they were courteous. They had the parts with them so they put them in.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield years ago, and I did have problems. I had a refrigerator that was 22 years old and they kept sending people to have it fixed and ordering parts. It didn't work. Finally they had given me another one. But that was in the summer and I didn't have a refrigerator. I also have had fixtures fixed. They put ceiling lights in for me and a doorbell, and that went smooth. With AHS, I like the fact that I can call and have experts fix an issue. If they can't fix it, they'll just work on it until it is fixed.

We've been happy with American Home Shield. The heater went out right when it was starting to get cold. It was on a weekend, so we called and American Home Shield responded right away and put a request through to Tempest HVAC. First thing Monday morning, we got a call from Tempest HVAC and they said they would have somebody out in the next couple hours. They arrived really soon. The guy was polite, he was wearing a mask, and he was able to fix the issue right away and we were very happy that it was as seamless as it could be.

Submitting a claim was really good. With the online system, I wasn't sure what to check because I wasn't sure what part of the heating it was, so I ended up calling and somebody answered right away. She took down the information and was very helpful. It was quick, and she was very helpful. We like having the warranty because it helps us not worry about the unexpected. It helps you deal with the unexpected things that come up with a house. We've been with them a long time. We don't need them often but when we do, we're really glad to have them.

Both the freezer and fridge parts stopped. It warmed up. The freezer wasn't freezing anymore, and the refrigerator was not cooling anymore. Oak Valley Appliance came out and assessed the problem, came back a week later with parts, and right now, it's fixed. We're crossing our fingers that it holds. We were so relieved because we were working with a tiny refrigerator in our backyard and it was a nightmare. We're happy to have it working again.

Our heat was running constantly. The gentlemen, from the very beginning, always called and texted. They were really in touch with us which was impressive. They were good about setting up a time that was good for us then letting us know they were on their way. The young man was polite, friendly and clean. They said that there was a something up in the air handler that he had to tape and it works great now.

It was really easy to put in a claim. At first, I had questions because some plans offered maintenance as part of the plan. I called American Home Shield to see if that was the case and they said it wasn't. I said, “I don't know if it's just how the system runs, or if it has a problem.” They said I'd have to pay $75 for the maintenance then $75 if they'd find something wrong. I didn't like that part of it. I thought I was just going to put in that it's not running right and it ended up there was something it needed too. It wasn't encouraging to a homeowner to make sure their systems run correctly. I would rather have somebody do maintenance and fix it if they find something than wait till the middle of winter when the pipes freeze.

American Home Shield had a person come to my house on October 6th and he claimed I needed a new pipe. It was leaking a bit and he wasn't gonna change it because he needed to get permission from AHS. Then, he said that the guts of the toilet had to be changed out and he claimed he did that. I made a follow-up and I called the company. They asked if I got my authorization because they called AHS and they haven't heard back. I called AHS and they said that the tech never called. I was back and forth with the two of them for about two weeks. Meanwhile, my toilet was still having the issue that was supposedly fixed when he changed the guts out.

I used to get onshore service when I call AHS but now, they put their call centers offshore and people were reading from a script. The rep said they haven't heard from the vendor and I told them that I was the customer here. The concern should be with me and not with the plumber who has not done his job. They didn't want to hear it. They said they were waiting for a diagnostic code. I said I understood but the guy was not doing his job and did not call it in. So I'm stuck in the middle of the crossfire. They said over and over that they couldn’t do anything without a diagnostic code. We had to threaten to cancel my warranty but they still gave me the same runabout. This went on for about several hours over several days. It was very frustrating. So finally, I asked if they could send another vendor to my house so we could start over and get someone else who would do their job. But they still said they couldn’t do anything without a diagnostic code.

After so many escalations, they gave me a new vendor. The vendor came over and it turned out the pipe wasn't busted. There was nothing wrong with it but they wanted to charge me $395. It was a loose screw and they tightened it. Also, the new guy said that the guts of the toilet that was still broken was never changed out. He changed it out and the issue was resolved. I was very close to getting rid of the home warranty. In the end, when I got someone new, it was okay. But I shouldn't have had to go through all that to get assistance.

With AHS, the only difficulty I had was in the beginning with getting my password and account set up. Once I got that done, it has been a piece of cake. I was having issues with my garage door that wouldn't hold limits. The board was going bad. AHS gave me options and I chose one that would best suit me. We are in a 14-year old house and the original garage door opener was still there. So, I went with replacing the board rather than waiting for AHS to order me one which wasn't gonna do much good for me with a 14-year old garage door opener. My experience with the company that did my garage thing was outstanding. The two gentlemen who came were great.

We've had American Home Shield on and off for 13 years. A couple times it's it's ridiculous and nothing’s working kinda day so occasionally we go a year without it but we'd think it was easier when we had it. Filing a claim used to be easier. In the past, I could call especially if I had a combination or multiple problems. It was better to call because you can explain the faucet’s leaking but the shower head’s not or the handle is leaking and so is the shower head. If a plumber comes out, it would be easy for them to look at both things.

But now, with the online submission process, there’s not an easy way to say there are two things. You only put one thing then it takes it. You can't look at the other thing. That's a separate call so they're going to charge an extra $125 to look at one other item. You can't have them fix your washer and dryer and your sink but if you have two minor things that are the same specialty, then it would be nice to put them on the same ticket. There’s still a way to call but you have to go kind of around the system. It's not the standard way.

In the past, I have had excellent plumbers come and I've also had much worse plumbers. This is the second plumber that is very good. Our water heater was leaking and my husband was pretty sure it was a certain valve. The plumber came out, checked it and tested it. They went and got the valve and replaced it that day. They came out pretty quick so we were really happy. Another time, I had a really crappy guy come out and do it. They did a bad job. If a faucet handle was leaking, it's not leaking when he leaves but it's really hard to turn. Then give it about six months and it starts leaking again because all he did was tighten it down. He didn’t replace the little washer on the inside or whatever they had to do.

The price of the visit has gone up over the years and that's partially why we quit it for a little while. The individual call out is 125 bucks which is almost the price that you would pay a plumber anyway to come fix a leaky sink if it's something simple. Another complaint I have is if anything big ever breaks, they don't cover it. If your dishwasher breaks and to replace it with the same one would probably cost $600, they’ll give you 400. I haven't had anything big break in a long time so that's where it goes in the chute. They're really making money on us.
