The ice maker freezer went out and when I called American Home Shield, the rep tried to get me to KitchenAid. I called them and they said it would be a month. I couldn’t do that so the AHS rep asked if I would rather have somebody local and I said yes. The contractor first thought it was something else. Then, they realized that they had to order parts to fix it because it wasn't making ice and it was dripping and the freezer wasn't freezing as much as it should. They did a good job and they were good with communication. I called a couple of times to make sure because I’ve heard that with Covid, there are a lot of delays and things don't come. I called the contractor the next week after a few days and I asked for an ETA on the part. The rep said it had been ordered and AHS approved it. It seems like American Home Shield emails were always kind of later after I got information.
As soon as the contractor got the part, they called me and came out to do it. The icemaker seems okay since then and it’s not dripping nor roaring although it seems like the ice is not as big. I've had American Home Shield several times and I had another company about two years ago. It was such a horrific experience but after that, this one with AHS was 1,000% better.

It was a pretty quick visit when the tech came out for my ice maker. He understood the problem, knew exactly what to do and what part they needed to replace. Even when they came out and replaced it, it didn't take them very long. It's been working well ever since.

I called American Home Shield and I told them my garbage disposal, microwave, dishwasher, oven light, and washing machine weren't working. They sent out Kenco for the appliances and SDL Plumbing for the garbage disposal. SDL came out a week ago and the tech got the garbage disposal to work. That same afternoon, Kenco came out and the tech fixed the dishwasher and the oven light. But he said that he wasn’t gonna even try to fix the microwave. It was built-in and he couldn't take it down. He told me I had to get somebody myself to come in, take it down, and put it on the counter, and then he'll come back and repair it.
Also, he said that the washing machine issue was a plumbing problem and that he would get back in touch with American Home Shield and let them know. When I called and talked to American Home Shield's rep, I had told the lady that the washing machine was backing up with water. That should have said something about a plumbing job but she sent out Kenco for it. I've paid two $75s -- one for SDL and one for Kenco -- and I don't think that I should pay another $75 for another plumber to come out and do the washing machine. I tried to explain to the gal that I talked to yesterday. They told me to call back tomorrow and that it evidently was a miscommunication with the lady who took my original work order. I don't think anyone is listening to me as the customer and trying to understand where I'm coming from and I'm very frustrated right now.

Everything is going fine with AHS. But sometimes, the charges they have for every time someone has to come over, $100, is a bit steep. Other than that, we have been enjoying the service. The first tech that came out for the AC, his diagnosis of the problem wasn't correct. He thought he fixed it and then he left. 24 hours later, we needed another technician to come and the problem wasn't what the first tech thought it was.
This has happened a couple of times when there's an issue with something and the techs don't get it the first time. Also, AHS could be more flexible with customers. For example, with the AC, having 90-degree weather and them not being able to get to us quick enough is frustrating. We had to live without air conditioning for a week.

It’s certain things that you have to call to verify is covered. But overall, American Home Shield is better than some other home warranty places I've used like Sears. They cover more things. AHS explains what is covered before the utility place comes out. The other companies I've used will charge you the fee, and then the person will come out, and they would be like, "Oh, we don't cover that." And they still make you pay the fee. That's why I cancelled Sears because they've done that to me a couple of times.
I've just purchased a new house. And when we moved in, the garbage disposal was leaking. And I knew I needed a replacement, but the tech told me, "Yes, you need a replacement." But then he said, "This is not covered, but I recommend you change the pipes. Because the way the pipe is right now is causing the water to not flow right, and it will clog again." So I paid extra money so he could change the pipe. A day passed and the new pipe that he just fixed is leaking. They came out again today. There was no additional charge for it.

The actual repair happened over four different calls with American Home Shield because I wasn't able to get ahold of them. I spent hours on the phone trying to get the first vendor back out. They replaced the capacitor. Within a few weeks, they replaced the capacitor again. They said that the AC needed to have the fan motor replaced because that was what took out the capacitor. I got ahold of AHS and Dunn Rite, and got Dunn Rite to come out and replace the unit. It was a drawn out process, over four months. We paid $800 out of pocket for the upgrades that were needed to get it installed, and everything's working good.
The home I just sold in Napa Valley last year was where I had the biggest challenge with AHS. I left them at my new home in Texas because I was not happy with how things went in my home in Napa Valley. When I was it, the dishwasher went out within just a few days of closing. I called, and in weeks, I got a replacement check for the work that I had done since we closed on the house. So it was a very difficult process to go through. I spent 23 hours on the phone. Other than that, I'm overall very pleased with AHS. The hold times and waiting to try and get service have just been the biggest challenges. I still have one of the best home warranties in the industry.
Lance,
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

The air conditioning issue we had got denied because it wasn't under the contract. I called American Home Shield and they said the issue was preexisting. But everything's gonna be preexisting because I've had the air conditioner since I moved into the house. How can I ever have an issue that would be okay for American Home Shield? They said they'd pay for some kind of liquid or fluid that the air conditioner needs but anything beyond that that’s mechanical would be deemed as preexisting. The people who sold you the AC unit can put you on a contract, but if you're not on contract with them, then anything that happens appears to be preexisting.
I'm dissatisfied that they didn't move through with my claim, but I'm not dissatisfied with the technician. The tech that was sent out from Temperature Tech's called me immediately and was very knowledgeable. And his professionalism was superior. He said I need a compressor but he did not want me to purchase a compressor from him because he felt like he could not guarantee that the compressor would resolve the problem. There could be other issues that are going on. I believed he was telling me the truth and that he wasn't misrepresenting anything to me just to try to make me buy something. Also, when I said to him, “Then why do I need American Home Shield?” he was quick to tell me why American Home Shield was a good option anyway. So I want to stay with American Home Shield and continue with this contract.

Stephen’s Appliance came very quickly for my dryer. They were very good to work with our schedule. They would have come out much quicker if we were available. They also called ahead and were on time. However, the dryer is not totally fixed. My husband thought they were going to order a motor and a starter. Another guy came out to install the motor and it was running great. The other day, it wouldn't turn on at a different cycle for me. He came down, played with it and got it going. Yesterday, my husband called American Home Shield to get another service call back out here because it's still not fixed. We don't know if it needed the starter. Stephen’s has already contacted us and will be out Friday. Again, they would have been out sooner if not for our schedule.
In the number of years we've had American Home Shield, we’re paying more money than what we need to. I'm considering about possibly dropping it in the very near future because of our monthly payment. It keeps going up. Then there's only that 30-day warranty to cover that same service fee and depending on the appliance, that's not long enough.

I had a ground fault electrical outlet in the garage. It tripped, and the outlet wouldn't reset from the breaker box. The electrician who came said that once they have tripped a couple of times, they are shot and they have to be replaced. But my bigger issue with it was my garage door and landscape lights were tied to it. So, when it went out, my garage door was manual only and my landscape lights didn't work. The tech fixed the garage door and lights so everything is working. He was the nicest young man. I was super pleased this time with the speed of the assignment and of which the people got here, and the work that was done. At my age, and especially having COVID, I need that automatic garage door opener working.
I had American Home Shield when I first bought the house and let it lapse. So, I signed up again. Before, I had something that needed to be fixed. AHS had somebody coming from an hour away. I live in a big city. I got in touch with them and asked if they could get someone local to take care of it and they did. It worked out fine. AHS is definitely worth the money.

My recent claim with AHS was for the pilot light of the hot water heater that wasn't coming on. The thermocouple had to be replaced. The tech had the part on the truck and it was done really quick. The only issue I have sometimes with AHS is there are certain contractors I don't want in my home because I've had bad experiences with them. A couple of times we've had where that's been the contractor assigned to us, and then I had to call in and say, "No. Don't want them." They said, "It all rotates." I said, "No. I don't care."
With the recent claim, I had never heard of AM PM Plumbing. So I went online and googled their service records and customer reviews. If they get 1-star out of 5, I'll call American Home Shield back and say, "I don't want them." But they were fine. They did a really good job for us. So I was pleased. However, sometimes on the website, you don't get that personal thing where you can talk to someone if you get assigned a contractor you don't like. That's my only issue with them.
We had a major issue a little while ago, where the techs came in and they did our Freon. Then they didn't fix the leak that was causing the issue. Six months later, we had to have the Freon redone by a different company. And American Home Shield wouldn't refund us. We paid $1,500 twice in six months, and I was furious. It completely leaked out. So they opened a claim and never did anything about it.
This time, the guy that came out to fix our AC wanted $2,500 for the Freon. We went and bought a new air conditioner unit instead. I didn't even bother contacting American Home Shield about helping pay towards the new air conditioner 'cause I knew they would give me grief about it. Because continuously paying $2,500 a year for Freon gets to the point where it's ridiculous. I paid 6,500 for a new unit, a more efficient one. I have looked into changing warranties because there's been a few claims I have not been happy with the way American Home Shield has handled it.
Karen,

American Home Shield has some vendors that suck. They did a pool pump and the company they used was horrid. They said they do a full background check on their companies. But I told them, "Did you ever look at their Google reviews, there are 46 in all, 46 one-star reviews." Other than that, American Home Shield is okay. Their electrician vendor and appliance vendor were good. They sent us Big Al's and they did two repairs in the last few months. The first repair was replacing a door in an Electrolux refrigerator and it was four months to get the part. That wasn't their fault. American Home Shield wouldn't do anything other than wait for the part to come in. Big Al's also worked on the dishwasher that was broken. When looking for a policy, make sure you are familiar with the caps, what's covered and what's not covered. We've owned American Home Shield for a long time so we watched the policy scale down over the years.

We asked for an HVAC tech to come out because the upstairs one wasn’t cooling properly. We asked American Home Shield to have someone come out and take a look at it. I just called the phone number. Everything was automated. I received a call from the HVAC repair company quickly afterwards to confirm the appointment. And every step of the way, they were really responsive, so I like it. They came out the next day and they were able to take a look at it. They told me that it was because the filter was clogged. Because we were doing some renovations, there was so much dust collected. They just told me to change that filter, and then it worked.

My AC claim was handled very well. I want to commend American Home Shield on that one. They escalated it because it was a weekend. United Air Temp came during the weekend and fixed it. Both United air and AHS did great. However, we have another long-standing issue with AHS that we're enormously unhappy about and that influenced them escalating our AC claim.
Our upstairs HVAC unit has been dead since May and we still don't have a replacement. We have never gotten a satisfactory update on what the heck is going on, and what is the status of the parts. Multiple times, we were promised callbacks after they would talk to their purchasing department. We never got callbacks. The only person we've ever gotten responses back from is the contractor that AHS assigned and it's not even his job to give us that update. He’s still a victim until American Home Shield orders the compressor and gets it to him. It's been three months of no air conditioning on the second floor of our house. So our office is unusable. None of our kids have been able to visit. We've been given some wrong dates that they've missed. It's been unbelievably frustrating.
With AHS, there's no escalation whatsoever. So when I keep having the customer reps tell me, “Oh, well, we're going to talk about purchasing, we're doing the best we can," they have never allowed an escalation to a manager or supervisor, or to the purchasing department. If you order an appliance through American Home Shield, there is an escalation. You can talk to the appliance department and they are wonderful. But with the customer service for something that's broken, you're screwed. There's never a manager nor a supervisor and you can't talk to purchasing.
The number one reason we chose American Home Shield was that they had a rekeying option for someone moving into a house. We could have an extra number of doors rekeyed for free and that was very attractive to us because we wanted eight doors rekeyed. When we first moved in and got the policy, AHS brought the door guy out and he said, “Oh yeah, I'll come back to you, and I'll call you tomorrow with all the options.” He wanted to see all the doors and the options, what was double-locked, what was single locked and all that. But we never heard from him ever again. We were out $75 and nothing ever got rekeyed. I don't really blame that one on American Home Shield. But the not getting any updates in three months with something as critical as HVAC, that was completely unacceptable.

American Home Shield has broad coverage policy. They cover a lot more than other companies. There's not a lot of push back, as far as things being covered other than acts of God, which I understand. The downside is it seems to always take too long to get a service provider to my house to get something taken care of. When your AC goes out in the middle of summertime, you don't want to have to wait three days to get somebody out here to fix it.
When you call in to speak to someone at American Home Shield, it's typically a foreigner who doesn't speak very good English. It's also choppy and you're struggling trying to understand what they're saying and hoping that they understand what you're saying. The good news is they do reiterate what we're trying to express, but it's painful going through the process with someone that doesn't speak as clearly as I do. It's real frustrating. I know we outsource a lot of this stuff, but it'd be really good if we can get regular Americans to answer the telephone.
When we had the winter storm and power outages last winter, I had pipe and water issues. I called American Home Shield to schedule service and being proactive, I sent pictures to the plumbing company that was assigned. But they couldn't get out to me because of road conditions and I understood that. But when they finally did get out and about, they contacted American Home Shield and said that my pictures looked like an act of God, like frozen pipes, which I didn't have a problem with. But they never called me back to say that American Home Shield doesn't cover that. I was expecting the plumber to show up that day and to fix my pipes regardless because you have the option of having them do it right away even if it's not covered.
I was trying to call the plumbing company all day long after seven days of being without water. They finally called me back that evening and the plumber said, “Oh, didn't American Home Shield call you back? They don't cover frozen pipes.” I told the plumber, “Well, are you guys gonna come out here and fix my pipes? I thought you were coming.” He said something sarcastic that sent me through the roof. I never want this company back at my house again. So if I ever have a plumbing issue and American Home Shield assigns that plumber to me, I’m gonna request somebody else. I never got my pipes fixed through American Home Shield. I called the guy that built my house 20 years ago and asked him if he knew of any plumber that could come out and fix my pipes. He said, “Let me make a few phone calls,” and the next morning by 6:30, there were plumbers knocking on my door to fix my pipes.
I liked the contractor that American Home Shield sent out for the AC. There were two guys that came out to figure out my issues and they were great. But there was one thing that they did a year or so ago that irked the living daylights out of me. They had to change a compressor, which was covered, on one of my outside AC units. But you have these little caps that screw over your Freon nozzles. Those little caps will run you about 12 bucks apiece, and that company charged me 40 some odd dollars for each one of those caps.
I called the contractor and said, “So help me to understand, these little caps that you say are not covered, that you’re gonna charge me for, costs about $12. I can go get them online for $12. So why are you charging me $45 apiece for them?” The guy said, “Well, that's just the cost of doing business.” I understand you're going to upcharge and you got to make a profit, but that’s ridiculous. It put a bad taste in my mouth.

Or you can replace this or this. Or any later, you can replace the other part that needs replacing," which didn't sound good to me. They did have to go back out to American Home Shield. But American Home Shield said they'll only pay for one thing that costs $107. They'll pay for another thing that cost $150, and the rest will be out of my pocket. American Home Shield identified the provider to fix my AC unit. The only issue that I had was when I registered the claim and they said they assigned it to a service provider, I expected the provider to call me. But they didn't call for two days. When I went online to check the status, it said that I should call them. I thought the whole purpose was they were to contact me so I sat around for two days expecting them to call me. That's the wrong process.
Every transaction I've had with American Home Shield has been painful. It took me seven months to get a refrigerator situation resolved. Also, a heating and cooling situation at one of my other houses took six months and still isn't resolved. They say, "We think it's fixed," but it's not. The same thing happens then I call back. I just finally gave up. I had a garbage disposal situation similarly. The provider came out and said I needed a new garbage disposal. Time went on and when I called back to ask where was my garbage disposal, they said they were still waiting for American Home Shield to authorize it. I called American Home Shield and they said they authorized it. I could have gone and bought the $149 garbage disposal and have my husband install it instead of paying the premium plus the $100 service fee. Finally, they assigned it to another vendor because the original vendor kept failing. But I had to go fight for that. The service to verify is atrocious.

Our recent claim with AHS was for the smallest bathroom, the guts inside the toilet were all messed up. Everything's been good since the techs did the repair. For somebody to come out and do what they did, the physical labor and the parts, it was well worth the $100 it cost to have them come out.

We've had American Home Shield for a long time and it's just nice that whenever something breaks down, we can call and have a contractor come out. We've had a lot of different stuff done. We still have issues with one of the appliances. One of them hasn't been fixed. But they did one thing, and then I just need to call to have them come back out. We had our ice maker in our refrigerator repaired. And then, the other one, we had our pool pump looked at. We've been happy, but the standalone ice maker is still not working. I recommend AHS to people I know because if you have something major happen, you can save a lot of money.

The AC wasn't coming on and the guy found the problem very quickly. He got it resolved very quickly and professionally. When this particular incident happened with the AC, I knew I was gonna have to pay something, and it was 100 bucks. When the guy came out and he fixed everything, I didn't owe him anything after that. It was really easy to submit the claim once I took the time to set up an account and wrote down my passwords.

The AC wouldn't cool at all but the tech fixed it in no time. It was something on the outside that came loose and he replaced it immediately. He was so nice and he knew what he was doing. He said he really enjoyed working with AHS and that they were great. But sometimes, you have to wait too long for the repair. It was awfully hot and I had to go stay with a friend, but we had fun. I also had a tech come out last summer and he was awful. I told him that there was nothing wrong with a part and he broke the other part. I had to go another 10 days without air. But then, AHS sent somebody else and they fixed the problem.

There was water dripping out of our air conditioning onto some wiring which was causing popping and sparking. AHS has worked great. We put the claim in on a Saturday evening and they assigned the claim right away to J Starr. We called JS Starr and left a message. They got back to us on Sunday afternoon even though it was a weekend and scheduled a time for Monday.
The techs came at the time they said they were going to come. They took the time to look around and tried to discover what the issue was. The repairman thought he had fixed it so I gave him a good review. But a couple of hours later, the issue started again. The issue was it was hard to find where the leak was coming from. We called the contractor back and their manager said the tech could come out the following day to assess the issue a little further which he did. He said they were busy so he could get back to us by the end of the week. And so far, we haven't heard from them. We live in Redding, California where it's 110 right now and there have been some wildfires, so it’s smokey. So, it's hard to hard to not have air and not be able to open your windows. The contractor was initially responsive and everything was good up until they didn't call us back. It's been four days.

I had a leak in the ceiling and kitchen sink and a faucet was also leaking. But American Home Shield does not pay for the contractor to search for the leak since it’s covered by the sheetrock. I will have to pay for that separately. But the contractor, Plumbing Doctor, fixed everything else that's covered by AHS. The person that came out was very helpful and efficient. The first faucet that he got from Home Depot as a replacement was defective. He had to drive back to Home Depot and get another faucet. I appreciated that because any other time, they would have probably just stuck it right in and leave but he didn't. He was very professional. I'm pretty happy with American Home Shield and I've depended on them for a long time.

I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on American Home Shield because of the issue that I had and nobody resolved my issue. I took it upon myself to resubmit the request. Because the first time I submitted a request, a Wester Electrical Company came out on a Friday evening at 5 o'clock. He didn't call or text. He just gave me a window between 2:00 and 5:00. He pulled up in a plain vehicle like it was yours, with a navy blue T-shirt on and navy blue pants. He didn't put on a mask and his booties. He just came on in. My husband let him in. And he took him to the garage where our breaker box is. That was our underlying issue, because the breaker kept cutting off to the kitchen.
He said the guy did the electrical testing in the kitchen. He took the breaker with him. He stayed here approximately one hour, took the breaker with him and said, “I need to go get the part.” But he never communicated back saying that, “I have to order the part. I'll be back tomorrow with the part. I'll be back Monday with the part.” He just said, “I need to go get the part.” And that was it.
I called Saturday morning. Our refrigerator was still sitting in the middle of our kitchen floor because we have to run extension cord from my garage inside the house to keep our refrigerator going, which is not a safety feature at all. Saturday, we did not hear from Wester. I called them. They didn't answer the phone. They only work Monday through Friday, because that was the recording. I left a message, “Y’all left my house. You never said when you’re coming back. You never communicated with us when you were coming back. Are you coming back today? Are you coming back Monday? Please let us know something.” Didn't get a call.
Monday, I called AHS to ask them to find out what was going on. One person told me that they never came out to my house. I said, “If they didn't come out to my house, who came out to my house then? Who did I let into my home if that wasn’t the company? Then the next call, they said that I called and ended my service. I said, “How would I call and end my service when they have the part to my home?” I called to find out what was going on. I asked them to find out. They kept telling me that the investigator would check into it, keep my phone line open for one hour. 24 hours, they would call me back. They never did.
I called back again a couple of days later. I said, “Can I speak to your supervisor? Can y’all tell me what's going on? My refrigerator is sitting in the middle of my kitchen floor.” They said, “Well, we'll check into it. We're taking good notes right now. We'll follow up into it.” No one ever said anything. The second week, I said, “Okay. Someone need to tell me something.” I contacted the Better Business Bureau because that is ridiculous. Then something told me to resubmit my request and I did. JTS contacted me Monday morning and said they would resolve your problem. And within one hour, they came out, fixed it, and were gone. I waited three weeks with somebody to fix something that just took one hour. And JTS sent someone immediately out that day.
I seldomly call AHS. We pay them, and this is what I get paid for. I told them all along that they are supposed to be for the customers, yet they were not trying to satisfy them. I’m getting ready to call AHS and end our service. We have had them ever since we had our house built, but we will no longer have the service.

The air wasn’t cooling. A young man came out. He was prompt and he changed something on the machine. But it still wasn't cooling. When I went out to check it, everything seemed to be normal. It was cool to a certain temperature, but then it was stopping on its own. The first time the tech came out, it was good. He showed up on time and seemed to know what he was doing. He came out the second time to clean the coil. It was rusty and he cleaned it. Then at night, it was cool in the house and it was cool going through the day. But then now, it’s back to what it was doing. Myers responds quickly and they’re professional. Maybe the technician is just not doing everything he’s supposed to do.
AHS responds quickly too. They’ve always done what they’re supposed to do on their end. But if it’s been something we’re not pleased with, it was the technician that came out. Then I need a refund for the plumbing because the people didn’t fix what they were doing. I just got sidetracked with this one because we have so much going on. But I’m satisfied with them. They just need a variety of people or allow us to choose someone else that’s not in their network.

I've had Sears for 10 years, finally got rid of them and have American Home Shield, and I couldn't be so happy. For the air conditioning I've had with Sears, I've had to wait a week. With American Home Shield, it's the next day that somebody is usually out. With the refrigerators and the microwave, we haven't had to wait weeks. Even scheduling the appointments online, it's all very easy to navigate. When my air conditioning unit broke, Bencraft Mechanical was out the next business day. I am very impressed with American Home Shield. In fact, sometime soon, I'll get my mom on American Home Shield too.

The AC unit was turning on and the fan wasn't communicating at the same time. So, the techs had to replace the circuit board because it caught on fire. We didn't know it caught on fire until afterwards. It caught on fire, and then about a week later, we noticed the fan was turning on and off, whereas the AC unit was turning on. It was just us not understanding how the fan worked and that there were two levels. So, when the AC unit turns on, the fan will shut down for a few minutes and turn back on because, as they go to a different level of turning, when the actual AC unit turns on, it goes to like level two. We just thought something was wrong because that's what was happening prior to it catching on fire. It's good right now.
The technician that came out was very knowledgeable and he educated us on how an HV unit works. We've had this guy come out a few times in the last few years. He's very quick to answer the call and get here, even though it's an air conditioning here in Idaho. It's been 100 plus degrees for about three months. So, the fact that he's been able to get here within 24 hours of filing the claim has been pretty awesome. Finally, he had to get the circuit board. He's done a great job. I like that I was able to get him to come out the second time without having to pay the second time within a couple of weeks time. We've been very satisfied.

The people that I speak to on the phone or via chat are always quick and professional. The direct customer service has always been exceptional. It's just been the people that American Home Shield has sent out. We've had a couple issues and it's always the vendor that American Home Shield has called out that wasn't able to fix the appliance. Also, it's been a little bit longer during the pandemic for American Home shield to get people out here. Before, it was usually just a couple days. But we totally understand and for the most part, everything is great with American Home Shield. They're responsive.
A&E was the name of the contractor that was sent out. We had two appliances and three times, they didn't fix it all the way. For the refrigerator's icemaker, it took them almost seven weeks to get the parts. Then it took another week to 10 days for them to schedule a call out here. It was a really long process. Then within 30 days, they didn't work again. When I called, I had to repay for the service people to come back out because it was after the 30-day period of time.
I travel for work and I'm not home for two, three weeks at a time sometimes, so I wouldn't have noticed that these things weren't working right away. American Home Shield finally sent another vendor out which was Platinum Service. What was so funny was when I called again, it was maybe six days till they could get somebody out here and that was fine because they have to work around, sometimes, with my schedule too. But when I opened the door, I thought, "This is a kid. He's never gonna fix this stuff." But did. He fixed both of them the same day. Now, my dishwasher dries my dishes and my icemaker makes ice.

The motor went bad on my AC unit. Indoor Quality Services did an excellent job on it. The technician was very good, very professional and he did the fix in a perfect amount of time. As far as the claims to American Home Shield, I have a microwave that hasn’t been fixed for over a year. People have just been coming out to my house. It's gonna be the 12th time they came. It’s been broken since April, and they just keep changing parts. That's been a horrible experience.
I’ve been with AHS for a lot of years now, and there's been times where they fix my problems right away, and then there were some like the one for my microwave that was not fixed yet. AHS should at least call the people and ask them what the problem really is and why they keep changing parts. They probably spent over $1,000 on parts when the microwave is only worth $200. From my experience, it’s been hit and miss. There were times where the technician came out and did a good job, and then I've had some really bad experience where AHS could use a more well-known people that fix things instead of mom and pop places that don't have the right tools or right equipment.
Another thing is sometimes, it's hard to understand the people from the AHS call centers because they're from other countries. We've had bad experience on that end because it’s hard to understand someone. Overall, I've spent $100 here and there and American Home Shield's contractors didn't even fix an issue. So, I just lost out because we're sick and tired of them coming to my house.

I had challenges with American Home Shield in the past. It takes a few days to get the service done. You call in for service and things depend on their supply chain people. Sometimes they call in a timely manner and sometimes I have to call them. With COVID, it was challenging. But the last few months have been better. Their service is improving.
I have a few properties with American Home Shield and I am pretty satisfied. But I would like to see more options. They should really pick and choose the people that they contract with. For the plumbing, sometimes a claim is not covered because of freeze or something else. For people considering a home warranty for the first time, do the basic one. Take less then gauge it afterward. See how that works for you. I chose the the plan where I pay 125 for a service call.

There was an issue with my refrigerator and the work never got finished. But it was marked as completed so I told American Home Shield it was not and put it back out. Bay Appliances turned the job down and Gulf Appliance picked it up. Both technicians from those companies were very cordial. The problem was the refrigerator needed a part that nobody could get.
A month ago, it was deemed that the part no longer exists. The technician from Gulf Appliance recommended that the refrigerator be replaced. I called American Home Shield and they said the technician didn't fill out his report. I called the technician and he said he did. We had been going back and forth like that, even though American Home Shield had it in the notes that Gulf Appliance said they couldn't get the parts. Today, American Home Shield told me they checked themselves to see if they could get the part and found that the part does not exist. But I'm still unable to get my dad's refrigerator fixed. This whole process started in May. It has been so many months and the refrigerator is still not done.
I have American Home Shield on my California house and on two properties in Florida. Overall, I've had good experiences with them except for the refrigerator claim in my dad's place. This has been so frustrating. I've been surprised by what has gone on with this particular situation. I had one other issue with an air conditioner repair that didn't get done right, but they made good on it. American Home Shield came through on other repairs that I had done. I had Sears for a number of years and American Home Shield is far superior to them in the breath of appliances that they cover for the comparable cost.
If I could fault them on one thing, it is when American Home Shield says they are going to call back and they don't necessarily do so. The consumer has to be the one to follow up. If there's an outstanding request and the customer has called a couple of times, American Home Shield should be the one pursuing the customer as opposed to the other way around.

We have greatly enjoyed American Home Shield’s service. We've been using it for almost six years now. It has been a lifesaver. Just recently, the sensor in our refrigerator wasn't working, and they had sent out a guy to fix it. He couldn't fix it by putting a new part in, so they refunded us to buy a new refrigerator, which was finally delivered today. That's been about a month and a half in process of them coming out, looking at the refrigerator, and getting Lowe's to deliver it. Then at the end of June, we had the motor and fan went out in one of our air conditioner units. It took about a week to get the part, and that was fixed. Only having to pay $75 is amazing.
We also just had a clog in the plumbing line that's attached to the inside AC unit from the drip pipe, and they came and cleared that out. In the past three months, it's been just $75 for a visit and not having to spend thousands of dollars to fix everything. While it does take time to get someone and get on their schedule, it's always within a couple of days of an issue rising up.

The Kenmore microwave was not heating. I had to wait over a week for an appointment. But the tech came out on time. He was polite and professional. But then two days later, the microwave was broken again. I have another appointment for it, which I have to wait yet another over a week for. This is the third time the microwave has been an issue because American Home Shield is just patching it. The first time that I had an issue with it, I had to wait six weeks for the part and could not get them to help. I asked American Home Shield for callbacks on three separate occasions, including supervisors, but no one ever called me back.
The person that I was speaking to at American Home Shield asked for verification information that their system forced me to verify. So if I'm forced to put the account number into the IVR, why am I then repeating the account number to the person who the IVR sent me to? It took over three minutes to do confirmation of who we were. Also, she did not speak very good English. So communication was hard. Then I was told that if I stayed on the phone, I would be able to do a survey, they then immediately hung up on me.
When I called asking for help because it had been a month waiting for a part, the reps said I had to wait 28 business days for them to look, and then American Home Shield will look for an additional two weeks. That's 28 business days. So throughout the entire holiday season, I did not have a microwave. I asked if there was anything the rep can do to move this up and she said, "No. That's their schedule." I don’t know as to why is there such a delay to the schedule. The rep wouldn't tell me. It's not been a good experience at all.

We have multiple contracts with AHS in my family. This is the first time I have needed to utilize my home warranty. My dryer started to emit a burning smell. I called AHS and they took a week to send out a repair contractor. The contractor came to my home and looked at the dryer which is located in a small laundry room. After opening the machine and allowing small fireballs to fly out onto my floor the contractor turned to me and stated I (a single woman) would need to pull out the stackable machine from against the wall into the living room for him to work on it. He then went on to state that it’s “connected” so he can’t do anything about it. It is plugged in and attached to a dryer vent.
When I stated to him I am unable to move such a large appliance myself and fear there is a significant danger to the large sparks coming out of it, he then stated I should hire someone to do it, took some pictures, and left. He then reported to AHS that there is no access to the dryer which is absolutely incorrect. The dryer is located on the ground floor and in a small laundry room. I have now contacted AHS 3 times with my concern and have been given the runaround and told they will not let me speak to a supervisor.
On top of that they have charged me a fee of $75 for sending this extremely rude contractor to my home only to tell me to do half the work myself and pull out and dismantle a machine which is sparking. I have repeatedly asked to speak to a supervisor and each time the person I speak to who is working in a different country tells me they are unable to connect me to a supervisor. Then after being placed on hold several times in one phone call and spending over an hour each time they ultimately hang up the phone. BBB has over 14,000 complaints filed against AHS and it is not surprising given the response I have had to my first time using my home warranty.

It is almost two weeks and they still have not got the part so the vendor can replace it. Every person I have spoken to has told me a different story and yet I am still waiting. They keep saying if I do not want to wait they understand. So basically even though I have made my payments on time when it comes to actually replacing something that is covered under the contract they are doing everything in their power to not do the job. I was promised a call from a supervisor within 24 hours it took 4 days and that is only because I spent hours on the phone demanding to speak to someone.
Finally got a call only to be told he will have to try and figure out what the delay is from the parts department. Another delay tactic from the company. They also told me 5 days in that I would have to pay more out of my pocket than the service fee and even though I agreed to do it just to get the job completed they still have not done the job. I can honestly say I think this is the worst customer service I have ever received.

But I've had American Home Shield with my prior house, so it felt okay getting it this time. I had some issues with the first house. It was the air conditioner or the whole furnace issue back then. But after back and forth over some time, they ended up fixing the whole thing. It was obviously more than 30 years old. That made me feel better. But the whole process, once it was all done, it felt better. And then they got my accounting all wrong when I had it good at one time. So, they cleaned that up, and that made me feel better. I just took some correspondence back and forth, so that helped.
I did the automatic thing where you go on to AHS’s website and entered it in. I tried everything before I made that call because I don't wanna ever make the call. I want that to be the last one to do just to contact the warranty company. But I went on their website and pushed the button for the service call, told them what was wrong. And I didn't get a call back all week. So, I called Friday at 3 o'clock, left a message on the Metro Heating & Cooling answer machine. And I got a text Monday at 9:00 saying he was on his way. I was like, “Oh my God! Somebody paid attention! Yeah, great!” He came out. He saw that it was some condenser and fixed it immediately right then and there. And we had cool air in less than an hour. I was so happy. They were great.
That was another reason why I liked AHS this time, because the contractors they used were great. If Metro hadn't called, I would’ve used the ones that AHS gave me for the air conditioner when it broke in January. I knew something was going on. And it wasn't working. It’s a warm day. I knew we would have a hot sweaty summer. I contacted AHS. And they said, “The breaker box is old. It needs to be upgraded. We're not gonna touch it with a 10-foot pole. You go hire an outside contractor to do it, and then we'll come back and fix whatever happens from that point.” I said, “Fine. I have all the contractors right here. He could hook it up.” They said, “No. We're not gonna pay for that.” So, I forked out $1,000, had somebody come in and install a whole brand-new breaker box, fixed the wires, did all of that. Spent three days out here fixing all the stuff. Everything was working smooth.
Air conditioner broke down. I said, “Hey, American Home Shield, you said you’d fix whatever was happening. Can you come on back out?” And this was March. And they said, “No, we can't.” I said, “No. I have the exact quote. I wrote it down exactly word for word. So, I asked you 15 times, ‘Are you sure that you’ll cover whatever somebody else does? Because this is electrical, and I don't want the house to burn down.’” “No. Sorry. We're not gonna fix it. You gotta hire whoever you came back out.” I was like, “No, I’m not gonna call these freaking people back again.” It was awful.
I just contacted the guy who came out the first time and said, “Hey, how much is it from AHS?” that they sent out instead of my private contractor because they messed up bad. And he said, “For a service call, $75 an hour.” “What? AHS charges me $100. I could’ve called y’all to start. Dang! You would have saved me. Sure. Go ahead. Fix whatever. Just get the air conditioner working please.” And in less than three hours, he had it working. Cost me, but $75 an hour beats $100 with a—"I'm not sure I'm gonna cover whatever you said what happened.” So, it was an iffy situation when I made this last service call, but the guy came out and he fixed it. I would have paid $75 an hour for a 30-minute service than $100. But now I know.
$1,000 is a lot of money to fork out. And I told the guy, “You have been out here twice through AHS trying to fix this air conditioner, and you're now back out here at my cost.” This was before this last Metro Heating person. It was Lynch Electric that we used. And AHS sent them. I said, “You're now out here at my cost. And if I had just used you for a jump, I wouldn't have incurred all this extra expense in trouble and hassle and pulling my hair out stuff. I should have just called you up.” Metro was good this last time and they were fast.
Every time AHS sent somebody out, I put a review up. And I love the people they send out. It’s just if they could make it easier. Or don't tell me one thing and then I have to go out of pocket and then something else happens. I would have known all along. I saved myself $1,000 because this stuff is expensive. And they've been less subtle.

I've now had four service calls since I've been with AHS and everybody has been excellent. The guy who came out to empty my septic tank is the guy I had privately hired on my own a few years ago. The extent of what American Home Shield covers for the cost that I'm paying monthly is great. It covers things like the ceiling fan, plumbing, etc. for $40 a month. You can't beat that. I'm enjoying American Home Shield very much so far. I have a thermostat upstairs and downstairs and the downstairs one was not working recently. The first time the repairman came out, he checked a lot of things. He checked to see if there was a leak. He didn't see that there was one. He saw that there was a part that needed to be replaced. They ordered the part and were on top of things. Since he's been here and put the part and freon in, it's been fine. I'm very pleased. Every single person that came out to the house was very knowledgeable. I was impressed.

AHS was good in responding and getting someone out when I had a pipe leak underneath my kitchen sink. The contractor showed up in a reasonable amount of time but they weren't fantastic. I ended up having to have something redone and I had to call an emergency plumber company because it would have taken too long to do it through the warranty. It would have been nice to have that done properly the first time. Other than that, the process was good, overall. If it’s a non-emergency type situation, everything is done in a pretty prompt manner.

I called American Home Shield, paid them the $100, and got the appointment made for our air conditioner. The air conditioner is a Carrier Infinity, and there's only one game in town that can work on them. So we did end up having to wait a week for the contractor to come out to work on it, which was kind of annoying because it was August and it was hot. But other than that, the whole American Home Shield experience was good. They've been great and very responsive. We recommended them to several people.
When the contractor came out for the air conditioner, they resolved the issue within 15 minutes. They've been out before and they remembered us and our pets. It was very good. In the past, they had a tough time diagnosing the issue because the unit is so complex that they had to learn about it. So they had to come out several times. But because of the $100 of the Home Shield, we didn't care because at the time that they had to come back several times to get it fixed a couple years ago, it wasn't like it was scorching hot 100-degree weather. So it wasn't a super inconvenience. We were glad to get it fixed for 100 bucks because normally the service charges would have been very expensive. So we're glad to have the American Home Shield with this unit.
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done.

The AC wasn’t heating and so the techs came out. They said that I needed some Freon and a new thermostat. I paid them the 100 bucks and they put in the thermostat. Then they said they had to order the parts for the evaporator. Two days before they were due to come and put the evaporator in, I got a call from American Home Shield's customer service people saying that my out-of-pocket costs would be $1,500, on top of the $100 that I already paid. Also, since it’s an older system, they said that they would only pay $10 a pound for the Freon and I was responsible for the rest of whatever that cost was. I was okay with that.
I called four times and got four different people asking them if they would send me in writing what I was paying for versus what American Home Shield was paying for. Every single one of them told me that it wasn’t in their policy to put that in writing and so I never got it. One of the customer service people said that I could write it down. I asked if I could be put with somebody who could help me and one of them said that nobody could help me, so I just gave up. My neighbor from church has a small AC company. Rather than continuing to fight as it wasn't worth the battle, I just got him to do it. He came out and got my AC running.

I had to go around and around on coverage for a few things in the past, but I've had American Home Shield forever. My rate goes up every year, but I don't understand why that happens. But it's all good. I still keep them because I just don't feel like changing. It's better to know the devil you know. The contractor was great. At first, it took them a few days to get out, but I understand because it's summertime and everybody has issues. But once they got here, they came out and pushed the referral through because they didn't have any electricity to the air, so they couldn't look at anything. They pushed it straight through and told me to call and get it done. Then, the electrician came and fixed it, and they came back and fixed it right away.
They said that they would come the next day after the electrician came. But then, they called me back later on. It was great that they could come the next day because I thought that they would tell me another two or three days. But they said they would come the next day, and then they called me later on the day and they had a cancellation, so they came over that day. I really appreciated that because my kids were dying here with no air conditioner in Hotlanta. The warranty helps me to feel a bit more secure that I am insured and my house is insured. And if something goes wrong, that I'm not going to have a high out of pocket cost for repairs.

The water dispenser in the refrigerator door was not working. United Services Appliance Repair came over and the tech said he was just gonna have to unthaw it. He said I would have to take everything out of my freezer, which I told him was not possible. I don't have any coolers. He didn't offer to supply anything to help do it and said he will have to come back with a special thing to unthaw it.
After some weeks, they came back and it unthawed for a couple of days but it froze back up. He said he's going to come back and bring a heater coil to put in there that will automatically heat the little dispenser and it should work. He undid everything and the little coil didn’t fit so he said he's gonna have to get a different one to fit the refrigerator. Then, they called back and said they're just going to have to give me a buyout of $600 something or they will replace the door. That refrigerator cost right at 2,000 so I told them to replace the door.
The main problem I have with AHS is not being able to get ahold of a supervisor and it’s very hard to understand some of the foreign people. The calls are automatically shipped out of the United States. For instance, I'm still having problems with my air conditioner. That's been going on since spring. I was trying to ask them how much it would cost what they were replacing and they go strictly by the little paper so nobody knew anything. And they won't let you speak to anybody in a supervising position to be able to tell you anything different than what they have been told to tell you. Other than that, AHS is worth it. They have provided me some help with a pool pump and hot water heater. Also, when they can't fix things, sure enough, they replace them.

When I didn't realize that my policy renewed on its own, I called AHS to talk to somebody but I couldn't understand them. They were also very rude to the point where I wound up hanging up. But I like the process with AHS because it's amenable. I can go online, hit a button and say what's wrong. It's pretty self-sufficient and easy to work. I just don't like the fact when it's situations like this. The other day, I had a claim because my refrigerator is not working. On something like that, I can get past if it takes a little bit for somebody to get out here and get the right part on there. But when you're in the middle of August and it's 100 degrees, AHS should work a little closer with either the client and/or contractors to find somebody that can get here, ASAP.
Recently, the upstairs unit wasn't cooling. The air conditioning company put a part in and it made the upstairs cool. But last night, I woke up at midnight and my whole house was hot so I have a request in currently. It's 94 degrees in here, and I can't get anybody here till Saturday. I don't know if I should call American Home Shield and find out if there's another company that could come sooner. I talked to the contractor that has my order right now and asked them if there's any possible way they could come sooner. They told me that they are putting out the schedule for tomorrow so if they have any cancellations. that's a possibility. It's not their fault and it's the time of year where stuffs happens but in the meantime, I have a pet and kids. Everybody's irritable and pissed and so am I.

We were communicating with each other and he was in the area, so I asked him if he could check it out as soon as possible because I have babies and we need the milk. He was nice and told me to call the home warranty to make sure he gets the work order. He came within an hour and replaced a small piece. Everything was perfect and he was very awesome. No offense to American Home Shield but sometimes the contractors that are chosen are just trying to get their business up and running. That person said, “Just have them come out, do the work. I believe this is what’s going on.”
The tech from Cabot greed. He determined the issue was a capacitor but then he had to cool down the condenser which was trying to kick on constantly. He did that and had cool air in my house within 20 minutes. The tech said that Cabot doesn't put regular paying customers ahead of their warranty work. Other than that, I'm always happy with AHS. I've always been 100% satisfied with the service and decisions that have been made. I've had AC issues in the past and I've had American Home Shield come out. And I've had to wait weeks with 90 or 100-degree heat, when it took them forever to get a part or to actually fix it. That's a really downside of them, especially in the state of Florida, where we are a 100% dependent on air. Also, the coverage doesn't cover any maintenance or cleaning, which would prevent major things happening in the future. It would be nice if they were able to cover that. They should opt for prevention rather than cure and in the long run, it would save American Home Shield money as well. Aside from that, when it comes to items like the AC, they don't really cover a lot of problems that can go wrong with it.

Some of the claims that I've had with American Home Shield were good but some were not so good. For instance, at one of our houses, the contractor came and cut a hole in the wall to repair something in the shower. But they never came back to fix the hole. That's been about three years and the hole is still there. My husband called a couple times, but they never came to fix it.
When we had a heat pump issue in this house, American Home Shield kept sending people out there to repair it. But everybody they sent said they didn't work on those units. So I don't know why they sent them. I ended up having to find a company myself to fix it. But I already spent money with American Home Shield for the $75 service for the companies that they sent out. I was surprised that once American Home Shield told the companies what the issue was, they didn't say, “Oh, we don't work on heat pumps.” So it was a waste of my time because I had to take off from work to be there for the companies to come and they also gave me a big window of about four hours.

They let us know what was going on.
When requesting service, American Home Shield sends people out to estimate and see what's going on. If something is needed, another invoice is put in, which is another $75, because that's a different job. This is our first claim and we paid them the initial fee for the people to come out. They do the work all for that $75. We still have to pay the contractors off the discounted price. Somehow, the guy explained things to me today so I understand how the system works now. The pipes on the water heater were all rusted and it was leaking. The tech came out and he looked at it and determined that it was all rusted on the inside and that's what was causing the leak. He ordered the water heater, and then two weeks later, he came back and replaced it. It's working great. I'm extremely happy with them.
The claims process with AHS is pretty good. Sometimes it's a little bit of a pain if you can't get the service provider to come out in a timely manner. I had one time where the AC went out and they were telling me it would take four days for the service provider to come out but the temperatures were over 95 degrees. So I had to work directly with the company and get them to come out. American Home Shield is hard to get ahold of. You call and sit on hold forever. It would improve the process a lot more if they could make it to where the customer could email them to cut down on the hold time on the phone.

I have two policies with American Home Shield. When something goes wrong, you got to figure out who to call and try to search, but I can just call the home warranty, and they send somebody out. I don't have to worry about whether they're good or not because AHS has already vetted them. Recently, several outlets were out and the electrician fixed everything. He was quick and came on time.

I had a water leak in my crawlspace under the house. Somebody was working on my air conditioner and they saw that it was under. I did a claim to American Home Shield online. Their website was nice and pretty straightforward. I was given the name of who was gonna come out and their number. The tech came early, got right to the problem, and he fixed the pipe that was leaking. I just renewed my AHS contract yesterday. They came when I had an issue and handled the problem right away. I called American Home Shield for my dryer door, and then Sears called and set up the appointment. The tech called, identified himself and he said he'd be here in a matter of 15 minutes. The dryer door kept popping open. The tech tightened something and replaced something. He fixed it. He was very attentive, very friendly and very prompt. I was very pleased with the repair. As a matter of fact, I have another claim in. Two days later, my washer stopped working. I just wish the repair was prompter. It's very hard to be without a washing machine. When I called last week, my appointment’s not until the 24th, which is a week from today. That's quite a few days without a washer. I told AHS about it, and they told me to call Sears and deal with them. I called them but that's the only availability that they have right now. They told me to try doing it online, but I'm not too good with stuff online. So, I'm just gonna have to wait and see what happens.

When a contractor came out for a plumbing issue, the experience was fine. It was the guy that came out for my air that we had a problem with. We did the whole month waiting for American Home Shield to get somebody out to look at it but when the technician came out, he tore some things out of my fuse box where I couldn't get any electricity in some areas but he didn't tell us anything. We were wondering why the hot tub was not working. We had somebody come out and look at it, and he said something was torn up out of there.
The contractor told me it's not their fault they can't replace it because it's not their fault that they tore it out. It's very unprofessional for them to say that. I said, "If it was on us or something was wrong with our box, why weren't we notified? You just left. You didn't tell us anything." We got to get an electrician out to try and get it fixed. I reached back out to American Home Shield and they were saying that they were gonna investigate it. They apologized for everything that happened, but nobody has contacted me yet.

I put it in. It was less than 10 minutes. I got a text from the contractor and everything went just perfectly. The unit would start to run. Then, it would just keep running, and it wouldn't cut off. It wasn't really cooling. It was really slow to cool. The technician came out, checked it out. This unit is upstairs. So, once we got up, I would turn it off, just the one downstairs where it was. He told me how to set both of them, so that they will balance each other out and run. I haven't had a problem since.

So, when it gets really hot out and I got the air on, it shuts off and starts leaking. When it got really bad, I decided to try American Home Shield. When I contacted them online, everything was immediate and there was no downtime. Then, I wound up with two guys from Budget A/C and Heating coming out. Those two guys were the best ever and they are the only people I want out ever for my HVAC because of how good they were. They fixed the problem and it turned out that the guy I had before did not flush out the condensation line. That was why the unit was leaking water for years.

One day, I came home, and I went to my master bedroom, and I flipped the light switch. I have the ceiling fan that has two separate switches for the fan, and one for the light. I picked the one for the light and it flickers. I thought my bulbs are probably out 'cause it's been three years. I just went to Home Depot, got some more bulbs, put them in. The fan worked just fine this whole time. I replaced the bulb, and then I flipped the switch again, and it flickered again. I was like, "Okay. I know it's not the bulb 'cause those are literally brand new." I turned it off and on a couple times. Every time I flipped the switch, it would flicker. I did the online thing with AHS, and then they referred me to the electrician.
He came out and said that there was some adapter that the ceiling fan companies have been putting in fans to make sure that people didn't put higher wattage bulbs in the fans than what it was capable of having. He said a lot of those over time they're faulty. So they trip it, and then the light doesn't work, which is what happened. He cut that off and did his electrician thing and it's been working fine ever since. There was a hiccup with my payment though. AHS has a card on file, but for some reason they couldn't run the card. But outside of that, the claim process of AHS has been fine.

The service techs that they send out are always professional.
When the contractor came for the air conditioner, everything went well. We had air duct leak that was causing the air to seep through, and we needed Freon. A month later, we had to call them back because we thought they had fixed the job correctly, but it wasn’t. They said it was a whole other entity and then they completed out the whole job for us. The AC wouldn't come on. We called American Home Shield, the guy came out the next day, and he was able to fix it. I also had a claim for the refrigerator and the company that they used took two weeks to get in touch with me from the initial call. Then it was another two to three weeks for the delivery of the refrigerator. And when they came, the guys wrapped it off and the handle was broken. They said they were bringing it back the next day but that took a lot of me calling American Home Shield, GE, and their company for almost another three weeks to a month to finally get the handle that I had to have installed myself. They also never sent anybody off to hook up the icemaker and I got somebody to do that myself. That company gave me three delivery dates and the guys never came, so I missed work three different times. I didn't like that and I told American Home Shield that they needed to take them off as contractors.
All in all, if your appliance breaks, you should have a plan B to just get reimbursed, because my experience with that was horrible. But as far as to fix the electric, light, or the air conditioner, it's pretty safe. I had an issue with the stove before and it took the techs two weeks to come out. For things that people need every day, it can't take that long for someone to even make an appointment. Then they may say they have to order a part and you still have to wait.

Our AC unit died twice in a week. The first contractor American Home Shield was going to send out wouldn't come till the 9th. That was not gonna work. This past week was the hottest of the entire summer. Luckily, we got hooked up with a really good guy. The speed of the inspection was perfect. The guy fixed the AC unit but said that the problem could happen again. He came back and fixed the unit again. He told me what to watch out for and what to do. I’m very pleased. I'm very happy that my AC is fixed now. Another claim I had was for my three-year-old washing machine that stopped working last year because of the motherboard. American Home Shield decided it was not worth fixing and replaced it. I got two brand new washing machines from them in recent years.
We used to have HMS, which American Home Shield owns. We’ve had them for 13 years and I've been very satisfied. My only frustration is even though reps speak English, their accent is so thick. When I called customer service, I couldn't understand what the rep was saying and I had to ask her to repeat it several times. She didn't get what I was explaining. But we finally figured it out. Sometimes the volume on my phone is all the way up. The rep sounded louder than a whisper but I couldn't hear her. That made me feel like a jerk. Outside of that, I've been very happy. I tell people all the time that they need to get a home warranty and I also tell them who I've got.

Updated on 09/06/2021: This is a follow up to my last two review regarding our broken washing machine that is covered under American Home Shield systems and appliances warranty. During the 4th service visit for the washing machine, the same repairman determined that he had installed the wrong motor into our washing machine and that is way is set off the smoke alarm and stop working when my 80 year old mother tried to use it. She informed him that she did not want to hear any thing more as she did not want to have a stroke or heart attack over this 2 month ordeal of a broken washing machine.
The repairman nor American Home Shield has not contact neither my mother nor me as to the next steps for this 15 year old broken washing machine for which they are responsible for installing the wrong motor. My mother continues to load up her laundry and take it to a public laundry mat. While she is vaccinated against COVID, I am still very worried about the Delta strain of the virus that is infecting vaccinated people. I live across the county from her, so there is nothing I can do.
Updated on 08/24/2021: Since my submission of my first review of your service, this "repair" technician installed the new motor and closed the work order. My mother attempted to wash a load of laundry and the washing machine started smoking and set off the smoke alarmin her house. The machine stopped working in the middle of the cycle. She had to wring out the clothes by hand. When she called to have the technician come back to fix the machine properly, he told her the work order was complete and we would have to make another work order request through American Home Shield. I thought this would require another $100 service fee for which I refused to pay.
I attempted to contact your customer service department through your website but only got recordings. Once I figured out to press buttons for sales, I finally got a human being on the line. I was told the same service repair company would be assigned to return to "fix" the washing machine. That company called me on August 23. They said the earliest they could come out is August 31. SO, their 4th visit will be about another 10 days before returning to repair my mother's washing machine. And the Covid Delta variant rages on.
Original: I have had a contract with this company for about 3 years now for the appliances in my elderly mother's home. When her 15 year old washing machine broke, it took 10 days for this company to get a technician to come out and look at it after I paid the $100 service call fee. When he did come, he announce it needed a new motor that he would have to order, so at least another 10 days before it could be fixed. When he returned with the motor, he then announced that the old washer needed a motor coupling that would also have to be ordered since it was not ordered when the motor was ordered. So - another 10 days to wait for the part and schedule a 3rd visit to finally fix the old washer. In the meantime, my 80 year old mother packs her laundry and bedding in garbage bags, lugs them to the car, and goes to the laundry mat in the middle of the Covid 19 pandemic. I HATE YOU AMERICAN HOME SHIELD!!!

UPDATE: 1/11/22
Experience #1 was resolved when the stove stock was available again (somewhere around November 2021 if I recall), but they could not get anyone would install the stove with downdraft, so AHS credited us $125 to find someone to do it on our own. In the end, this worked out but the process of having to call monthly to see if the stove was in stock instead of just being placed on a waitlist or similar is irritating.
Experience #2 was even more of a mess, but did get resolved. The contractor that came out the first time just never showed for the second visit then lied and tried to say they called and we did not answer. If AHS assigns KN Repair or Universal 1 repair in NJ or PA, request someone else immediately. Since they never showed, AHS was willing to send out another contractor which happened to be GE Appliances directly, which worked out as our fridge was a GE model. This technician arrived on time, diagnosed the issue as the thermostat within minutes, confirmed they no longer make it while still at our house, and put in the request for a replacement fridge. From this point we had the new fridge installed within a few weeks, probably around September 2021 or so.
Original Review: Aug. 11, 2021
Experience #1: Our oven/stove is an older model had the convention fan die, which was the final nail in the coffin that made us look into using our plan through American Home Shield for the first time (the stove also had a broken knob and would not work on the low speed of downdraft blower but these were not enough to call alone, but we figured if we had to pay for a contractor and get one thing fixed, we should mention them all when requesting service). We paid our $100 service call and AHS assigned a contractor.
The contractor came to diagnose the issue, and determined that due to the age of the stove (late 70s/early 80s) and the numerous issues to fix, it would be unnecessarily difficult and costly to attempt to source the parts and the best course of action would be a replacement. At this point we assumed everything would be cut and dry, and our stove would just be replaced in the semi near future once the info got back to AHS with the contractor's report.
Within a few days AHS emailed us with an offer of our choice of: the oven replacement that they were offering which included delivery, set up, and removal of the old unit, or we could buy our own oven and they would reimburse us up to a certain amount once we provided the receipts. The oven they offered was essentially just the new version of what we currently had, so we opted for them to handle the stove replacement instead of doing it ourselves for the ease of dealing with getting it delivered and the old one removed.
After a few days of not hearing anything back after making our selection on taking their stove offer, I noticed in the portal where you schedule your service that they had marked it "Complete". I called AHS and asked what was going on and was explained that due to COVID-19 and the impact it had on the production of many appliances, that our stove was back ordered and we had to wait until more were in stock to get one. This alone is fine, and in the in field that I work in we were also impacted by supply chain problems so we understood that a back order was possible, and luckily our stove was still functional as-is, just not fully. Unfortunately, they seem to have no system in place to mark one of these stoves for us when they do get stock, and the only way to get one is to call every week or so and ask if they have any yet, which so far the answer each time has been "nothing yet, try again later".
The most recent thing we were told was to call towards the end of August since they expect some in the beginning of September. We filed this claim with AHS on June 18th, so we are coming up on 2 months of this. Again, I understand the issues with supply that COVID-19 has caused, but the "just call every once and a while and see if we have more yet" method of getting the replacement has been very cumbersome to say the least. At this point, I cannot attest to whether everything will work out and we will get the stove or not, but for now it appears to be in process and just awaiting available stock. I will update this as it progresses and if we do or do not ever get a replacement stove.
Experience #2: I was assigned a different repair contractor than the one assigned for my stove to look at our refrigerator that has been making some intermittent horrible clunking / banging noises and electrical fluctuations that come with it. The bouts of this only last a few seconds, maybe 10 seconds or so at most, but each time this occurs the lights flicker in the fridge and I can hear other mechanical components stop running until the noise stops. Since we had a good experience with the first contractor that was sent out (see experience #1), we decided to schedule another service with AHS for the fridge in the hopes that they would repair or replace it before it actually dies, as not having a functional fridge is a lot more of an issue than not having an oven (again, see experience #1) since of course there are other methods of cooking food if needed.
The contractor called the day after they were assigned by American Home Shield to confirm the details of the fridge such as make and model, but in reality the person we spoke to had zero interest in even listening to what I had to say that was an issue. After a few minutes of telling me my issues were not good enough for them to do anything about, he said something along the lines of "well I guess since you already paid for the service call, we can come and take a look but don't expect much".
They came within the window they stated, which is about the only thing that went OK. The technician arrived not knowing anything about the fridge, despite someone from the company previously gathering that information when the service call was scheduled, and in fact had to ask where to find the model number. He adjusted the dials for temperature to make the compressor turn on/off and kept saying "this is the sound you hear, right? It's normal" and after repeatedly saying "no, that is not the sound. It is definitely not a normal sound and when it happens, you'd know", he decided to continue messing with dials and telling us we were wrong, and everything was fine.
Since we had mentioned the lights also flicker/turn off when the noise happens, he tapped the light bulb and said "Probably just a loose bulb, I screwed it in more, should be good now". At one point he pulls the fridge out a foot or two and looks behind it and says "looks pretty clean back there, nothing is probably wrong with the coils then, so I won't check it out", when in fact our fridge is a model with the coils on the bottom, which he did not even look at. After his 5 minute "diagnosis" he said there is nothing wrong, try to get a video of the sound when it happens again, and left our house.
How this is a company American Home Shield is willing to partner with is baffling and honestly embarrassing. I called American Home Shield to get a second opinion contractor to come out, but it seems the protocol is to have the same company come back first and look again, and if they say the same thing (which I bet they will, as their "techs" clearly do not know what they are doing), then we can get someone else to come out. So now I have an appointment scheduled with a "senior technician" to come back out next week.
At this point, I have low hopes but am hoping for this technician to be more professional and actually try to diagnosis the issue. I do understand it is hard to diagnose an intermittent issue, and of course understand that they do not want to just keep buying parts and wasting time to fix an issue, but the original technician did not even pretend to diagnose anything. In short, so far experience has been more of an issue with the contractor that AHS sent to my house than with AHS itself, but it does say something about the contractors that they hire. I will update this after the second technician comes to take a look and I have heard back from AHS regarding it.

American Home Shield was recommended by my insurance agents. I requested service for my lock and the company was on time. On the other hand, the warranty did not meet expectations on my electric thing. We already got it cleared when we took the policy. Generally, home insurances have been taken care of by the title companies, so we don’t know any details till we get in the problem. Because I'm a first-time customer, I didn't know the procedures and what the agreement is. I called a third-party vendor and got the repair on my electric thing. It costed me almost $300. I thought of claiming the invoice to AHS directly, but they did not allow me that. It was a huge loss for me. I inquired the last time some process how it has to go through, and they said that we needed a prior intimation before they make any adjustments or repairs.

American Home Shield finally got my problem resolved with my sump pump but I went through a lot of issues with getting it done. They didn’t understand the urgency of the matter. My sump pump went out so we were reduced to one bathroom but I couldn't even use that efficiently. We had to not flush or not shower for a week until AHS got somebody to come out and fix it. So, it was tough for my family. The process took so long and when I asked for expedited service, they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about initially. But it is now fixed so, I'm happy about that part of it. The contractor did a good job explaining what was going on with it. I'm not 100% sure about the way they installed it though because I still have a little bit of an issue that I have to go out there and fix. The pump is still working but I have to move it out of the way because it's blocking.
I used AHS one other time when my garage didn’t work. The contractor came out in two days and it was quick and seamless. It took all of 10 minutes for the guy to fix it. So, there were no problems within that time. I usually submit my claims online. However, I had to call the last couple of times because I needed to talk to someone so they could understand the urgency of the situation. Submitting a claim online wasn’t getting it done. So, I requested to talk to a supervisor twice. Both times, I was told it was COVID protocol and they work in a different building and they would call me back. But nobody ever called me back.
If people ask about AHS, they should probably look around and see. What's funny is we rented a house in Maryland and our landlord had AHS and they were awesome in that area. That was why I thought we would have AHS here in Texas because it was so great in Maryland. But if you're here in Texas, think twice. If you're in Maryland, then go for it.

Both workers that conducted services at my residence were very professional. They got straight to work and they finished expeditiously. A home warranty is something that everyone should have for their home. I wouldn't recommend getting a home without it, and I'd definitely recommend American Home Shield. They are very good, time proficient, and accessible. When I request for service, I call the 1-800 number and they ask me the specifics so that I can be directed in the direction I need. When I get to the actual person, I tell them what's wrong and they dispatch the appropriate company.

There was a line on the AC that was backed up with algae and there was water dripping onto the floor. American Home Shield sent someone who was able to fix the issue for me and let me know how to avoid it in the future, so that's good. I just bought the house and apparently, the previous owners didn't add vinegar and hot water, once a month like they were supposed to, to keep everything flushed out. Overall, it's extremely important to have a home warranty. You just pay the service fee, rather than God knows what crazy expense it could be. I was grateful that I had American Home Shield.

When I had my sump pump done in 2017, the guy came and he just grabbed the pipe and shook the bejesus out of it, then the pump kicked on. He said, “Sometimes the float just gets stuck,” and he left. I realized it was Christmas Eve and I thought, “Okay.” However, my sump pump has gotten increasingly worse and just bangs when it turns on. It has also overflowed twice since then, and it was a mess.
When they raised my American Home Shield up, I decided I haven't used it except for that and I was gonna just cancel. It was not gonna fit my budget. The lady talked me out of that, because she said, “We're gonna send somebody out. We're gonna get that fixed.” They sent Thomas Brothers Plumbing out, and the guy was absolutely wonderful. He took the lid off and shook the pump literally off of it. He explained to me that it sits on a base, and he had knocked it off. In doing so, the float was up against the wall of the tank thing and it has worked beautifully since. I have no complaints whatsoever.
I own an older home, and I'm on a fixed income. If I have to replace something that's valued at a lot of money, I may not be able to. My hot water heater is 30 years old. I've been here since ’04, and I bought the stove then. My refrigerator and my air conditioning unit are older as well, and I've replaced my furnace since I've been here. It's the little things that add up. I'm on a fixed income and if I have to replace something that's valued at a lot of money, I may not be able to.

The air conditioner wasn't working and the initial call with AHS was placed in 2020. They told us that someone from the repair place would be reaching out, but we never heard anything from them. Then, we went into the pandemic and we still hadn't heard anything. So, I started calling them and trying to have them come out later on in 2020. But I could never get anybody to call back and I could never get ahold of anybody.
Finally, a few months ago, it took me four hours on the phone and the first two people I talked to hung up on me. They also kept telling me that I had to wait to hear back from the contractor, Family Heating & Cooling. So they were saying that the ball was in Family Heating & Cooling's court and that every time they tried to call them, they couldn't get ahold of them. But I called the contractor on the other line and got right through. Then, I three-way called them while I was on the phone with the representative at AHS because every time I called Family Heating & Cooling, they'd pick up the phone. So, I wasn't sure why American Home Shield couldn't get ahold of them. But then, the call ended because technical difficulties.
On the fourth phone call, it had escalated enough that we finally got ahold of somebody and got it straightened out. Then, someone came out to the house and fixed the air conditioner. The techs were responsive, they answered the phone and they called me back quickly. They were also sympathetic to the fact that my claim had taken so long. The guy who came out to service the air conditioner was professional, said the job would take about two and a half hours, and he was done in an hour.
Other than that, every time I call AHS, it's incredibly difficult getting anyone to understand what I'm saying and getting anyone to set up the appointments that I need. When the service is something cheap, the process is quick and easy. But the one for the air conditioner has been a nightmare. AHS should improve their responsiveness and not try to charge me the $100 co-pay for an issue that I already paid for. I ended up going to the Better Business Bureau and it was funny because the guy that I spoke with at the Better Business Bureau had American Home Shield as well, and they were so difficult to deal with that he also dropped them. So, he was not surprised by my phone call.

In the middle of the night, the AC stopped running. It was blowing air, but it wasn't cold air. It was 97 degrees that day. AHS dispatched a person out. Turns out the line was clogged, so he cleared it. He reset the water switch and then it was working. But that night, it stopped working again. Then we had the Liberty come back out and they sent out a couple more guys. The line was so clogged and they had to cut through the line to more thoroughly blow it out. Also, they took out the filter, and it's worked perfectly since.
This was our first claim and we were very surprised at how easy it was. American Home Shield told us the name of the company that was coming and within 10 minutes of hanging up with them, I had a call from Liberty letting us know somebody was on the way. It was a total of an hour and a half between placing the claim and having the issue resolved the first time. On the second day, it took about three hours.
My husband mainly dealt with the first guy who came out. He explained everything thoroughly to my husband and showed him what he could. Three people was sent for the second visit to make sure that I was taken care of, which we were very impressed with. Any parts that we needed were on the truck with the exception of the filter, which was something we could pick up at Home Depot. They were very nice. I had a lovely chat with them because I asked a million questions. They were very helpful and informative with answering all the questions. My husband said that they were able to diagnose and resolve the issue very quickly. Everything went great. I love American Home Shield. My fridge has been an issue since June when I first had people come out. It doesn't stay cold. Someone would come out and do something, it would be cold for a week. It would stop being cold again, everything in my fridge would defrost, and things started getting warm. I had to call American Home Shield several times. They are bad at reaching out to recap on how things are going after the service person has come out. Because I had to keep reaching out after either the second or third time someone came out. That person said the fridge is unrepairable. So now what? Since June to now, it has been a mess keeping stuff cold and good at my house. That part was frustrating.
I told the rep I'm done with AHS because they were trying to send the Sears guy back out, but Sears was down. But AHS said, “Hey, let's do this one more time.” I told the guy, “This is the last time we're sending somebody out. I want to know where we go from here if my fridge is unrepairable.” I have this insurance and it has been more of a headache having insurance than just saying, “This fridge is broken. Let me just go get a new one” instead of having to deal with AHS.
The tech came out today. The four weeks was the longest that my fridge lasted. He took my fridge apart today and he said usually there's a dye that you can see. He couldn't find that. He said, “So it's leaking somewhere. And it's a constant leak. So you're gonna continue having this issue. It's unrepairable, at this point, because we can't find that leak. You'll get a call to let AHS know, so we can see where I go from here.” Didn’t even ask that. When stuff like this happens, I have to call AHS and say, “Hey, where do we go from here?” And it's just a hassle trying to get to that point. Them talking through, “Hey, let's try to see if we can have someone else.” People have already said this, then we got to wait for the people who came out to work on my fridge to make a report.
The lady I was talking to said sometimes the wait could be two or three hours for these workers to get through, to talk to say what's going on with the fridge. But they are busy men. Who would wait two to three hours to talk? Of course, they haven't made their report. That's a long wait. And I was like, “This is ridiculous. I'm waiting on them, but they can't get through to you. So it's like, in the end, y'all are the problem.” It has been a frustrating experience. Depending how it goes now from here to now what, will determine if I'm going to cancel my membership, just because it has been a headache. If nothing happens, then why do I have insurance? Right now, I wouldn't recommend AHS to anybody.

The control panel went out on the dryer and the contractor ordered the part, put it in and it worked for a second. The tech said it was no good and that the appliance was not able to be fixed. This was around the 15th of May. Every time I got in touch with a representative, they would say they needed to contact. They kept contacting and after a while, she said it couldn’t be fixed. Toward the end of June, they finally said that it couldn’t be fixed and I still went back and forth. They kept saying they have to go to the right department to get everything. That went on for a month. I asked to speak to a manager, a supervisor and the rep said they were all on call so they couldn’t talk.
I ended up buying another dryer. Then, the techs finally got the authorization so, I submitted the paperwork for it to be replaced. It’s just the representatives from American Home Shield that I had a problem with. The call center people sucked. It's hard for them to understand what's going on but I have no problem with some of them. When I talked to the right person, everything was settled quickly. The representative who dealt with the replacement was fine. He took care of everything. The techs tried to fix the washer but it was only washing on one cycle. It wouldn't spin the clothes out so we have to go to spin and drain, and do that. So, we just said, “Forget it,” and replaced that also. We didn’t get anything for the washer though because we submitted the stuff for the dryer. I sent the thing for the washer but I never was contacted, so I bought another washer also.

American Home Shield has been very helpful. The keyboard stopped working so that it wouldn't take inputs to program the time or temperature. It was determined that AHS would replace it because there were no repair parts available. They then gave me the option of different ones to choose from. I chose a microwave off of their website of available items. It was then scheduled to be put in by Exclusive Enterprises out of Tallahassee, Florida. The only thing that I didn't like about the choices was the appliances in the house were stainless steel exterior, and there was no option for stainless steel. So I chose the one that was closest to it. It was charcoal gray.
The contractor were the ones that I gave the information to about the appliance and determined that it needed to be replaced rather than repaired. It was then handed over to Exclusive Enterprises who dropped the ball. They gave me no option as far as delivery times. The house that the microwave is in is a rental house. They gave me an option that it would be delivered between 12:00 and 4:00 two Fridays ago. The tenant was on a time schedule. So she waited at the house for them to come before 4 o'clock. But they didn't show up until 4:20. They were supposed to install it. Instead, they just dropped it off and put it in the garage. We didn't know that installation was part of that process. Because I called back and asked the AHS customer service, “Hey, how are we going to arrange the installation? And they were like, “They didn't install it?”
They contacted Exclusive Enterprises for them to come back out and do the installation this past Friday. It was supposed to happen between 12:00 and 4:30. I let my tenants know and they waited at home the entire time for them to show up. Nobody showed up to install, and nobody called us to let them know why. By the time I learned of all that, every office was closed. I called their office after 4:00. I left messages there. I called AHS and talked to one of their representatives and said that nobody had contacted us about why they didn't show up.
On Monday morning, I called back AHS and they contacted Exclusive Enterprises and said that the weather was the reason that they did not come. The weather wasn't that bad. Afternoon thunderstorms are a normal thing. The hurricane didn’t come for days later. We had a little tropical storm, but that was days after this was supposed to occur. Those of us that live in this area understand hurricanes and tropical storms. They didn't show up and give us a notification. I was handed over from AHS to the appliance replacement division, who does the scheduling of the appliance. They contacted Exclusive Enterprises, and they told them that they would do it today, between 12:00 and 4:00. But I needed to call them directly.
I attempted that. I left messages, nobody answered the phone. I called 10 times. I called back the appliance replacement division directly and they rescheduled it because they also tried to call Exclusive Enterprises with no luck, and just got put on a message as well. They then reassigned it to JC’s Appliance Repair. That was yesterday about some time between 10:3 and 12:00. JC's Appliance Repair had contacted my tenants and made arrangements to install it yesterday afternoon.

My water bill was very, very high, so I contacted City of Austin Water to have somebody come to check for leaks. City of Austin came to check for leaks on the street. We didn't found any. I needed to know then if there were any leaks in my house, so I called American Home Shield. The plumber came and he was very rude. He checked the meter, and it took him three minutes and said there were no leaks. I needed an email confirming that I had a plumber come in and check for leaks, and he said, "Yes. Okay. So, there's no leaks. And I will send you an email with what I did and saying that I'm a licensed plumber and that there's no leaks." Then he left. It was a $75 call. But I didn't get the email from him, so I called him and left a voicemail. 10 days passed and after having to text him and call him, I was about to call American Home Shield to say how unsatisfied I was with the service, he finally texted me a picture of the receipt.
I was very, very unhappy with the service. Also, as I was trying to find out if I could contact him any other way, so I looked at reviews on Yelp and he has the worst reviews. So I don't know why American Home Shield is using his service. If I ever need a plumbing issue resolved through American Home Shield, I will refuse to have him come. This is my first experience with this plumbing company and I've had American Home Shield repair other things for me but I've never had an issue. American Home Shield should do a better job of vetting their contractors.
When the plumber wasn't responding to my texts or emails, there was no person to contact at American Home Shield. So I either have to file a new claim or take forever to figure out who to call if I have an issue with whoever they sent. But overall, I've been satisfied with American Home Shield. One thing that I'm happy with American Home Shield is that they dispatch whoever's needed pretty, pretty quickly. That's an advantage because it's sometimes very hard to find repair people. Both of repair people that came out were great.
I would refer American Home Shield to friends. For me, with little ones, it's convenient to just contact them and they contact whoever's contracting to do the job. I don't have to go find somebody. As long as it's a good contractor that they have working with them, then it's definitely very convenient. We've had it where one contractor that came out for a dryer was not good at all.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.
