The outside AC unit wasn’t turning on. Whenever I would turn my AC on inside, I could hear it click outside like the power tried to turn on but then the outside unit would never turn on. My wife did a claim to American Home Shield on their website. We got a text message saying that my contractor had been assigned. They called us the next day to set up an appointment. When they came out, they introduced themselves and then they went right to work. They were professional, courteous and they did their job. They let me know what they thought the problem was and then they told me what the next steps would be. They kept me informed, so that was good. Home Shield met all my expectations of what a home insurance company should do.
Hi Kevin,
Thank you for providing us with feedback about your AHS experience. We strive to provide you with prompt and professional service. We hope you continue to enjoy the coverage we provide!

I had a couple of repairs with Master Pro and the most recent one went excellent. They came out for the refrigerator ice maker and the technician was professional. He knew what he was doing and ordered the part timely. Then, he set up the appointment to come back, so everything was great. But my other claim with them did not go well. The tech was supposed to fix the garbage disposal and two faucets. He fixed one faucet and tightened it. But it was so tight that you couldn't even move it. Then for the other faucet, put in that he fixed it but he did not. It’s still spraying water all over the place. The garbage disposal is also still not working. You still can't turn it on and off and you have to keep resetting.
When I called AHS back, they were sending out another plumber. But I haven't had a response from that plumber yet. So, they attempted to contact that plumber and they were unable to contact him. They were going to schedule somebody else but they wanted me to wait 24 hours. It's been a couple of days and I have to call back and schedule it out. But I've been without a garbage disposal for going on five weeks since I put in the claim. By the time the plumber comes, they would order the part, then I don't know how long it would be fixed. Maybe by Christmas. Other than that, AHS has been responsive, very nice, and the issue was not their fault.

I'd go online when submitting a service request and sometimes, I'm not sure if what I put there is correct because American Home Shield would put in the wrong thing I was putting in a service request for. So, then I followed up with the call. My concern is that the people they choose to do the work is really not close. It appears to me that my request seems to take a little longer because they're not local. I'm in Northern New Jersey and the people they are sending me are coming from Southern New Jersey, an hour away.
Liberty Plumbing & Heating was great. They came out and did a maintenance heating check for me. Then they came back out when I had something going wrong with the heat. We are currently waiting on a part for something so that hasn't been resolved. But they didn't make me put in a new ticket because it was part of the last request. Lisa was great. She would call me back, tell me what's going on and what they could and couldn't do. If there was an issue with our appointment, like I needed to move it up because I wanted to go to work half a day, she was usually good at working with me with that.
However, I was really upset because the first request I put in for a leaking issue in the home, American Home Shield gave me to someone called Mr. Plump, who was really far like in Wellington, New Jersey. I asked the lady if they service my area and she was insistent to not worry and put the request in. Then they sent me a message that the appointment’s been scheduled with this contractor. I followed up with Mr. Plump with a phone call. The guy said that he doesn't service my area. I called the lady back immediately and told her that. She said she couldn't cancel it until he emailed her and tell her he doesn't service. I said that he sent an email and that I was calling to tell her that he said he could not come. Finally, I called Mr. Plump back. He said to have them call him and he would tell them he sent them an email.
It takes 24 to 48 hours for someone to get assigned, then it takes another 24 to 48 for someone to come out so you lose time when you're waiting on someone who already said he's not coming. She reassigned me to Young's Water and Sewer guys and they were pretty far as well. I asked if she was sure that they service this area and she said yes. She would cancel Mr. Plump. I called Young's Water and Sewer on a Thursday or Friday and the guy said that they service the area and that they would come. He gave me an appointment for Monday. We got to live to the leak over the weekend. We couldn't use the toilet and the house was smelling.
Monday came and I took off from work. I didn't have a confirmation that anyone was on their way. I read somewhere on their website and there was a person complaining that they never showed up, so that made me really nervous. I called them and they said that they were down a plumber and it was 11 or 12 o'clock that time. I asked if they thought of calling me. They said they called and left me a message. There was no way that they left me a message and I was sitting at home when I could have gone to work. I told them that I would go to work and needed the next day off and work something out. I was very upset about that. He said they would come the next day, Tuesday, the same time between 11:00 AM and 3:00. I did not accept that appointment because I've already wasted a day and sat home practically all day. I told them to give me something earlier in the morning and at least let me be able to go to work half a day.
They called me back and scheduled something between 7:00 AM and 11:00, then they called back and said 8:00 AM and 11:00. They finally got there at 11:00 and did the job. They were in and out and were professional. This is my third or fourth time using American Home Shield. I'm new with them and I'm still working out the kinks.

I was having some trouble with my dishwasher. It wasn't cleaning very well and wasn't drying at all. I was also having some issues with my stove. The fan wasn't turning on, so the front vent and the top element weren't working. The repairman said that both of them needed to be replaced. The vent wasn't turning on because the main board on the stove was bad and that stove is no longer made nor parts for it. Then with the dishwasher, he said that the tub was rusting out and that it needed to be replaced. The experience with American Home Shield has been fine except for the long hold time. But other than that, everybody's been nice, kind and helpful.

I took care of submitting the claim over the phone. It worked well. And then, the guy came in on time and took care of the thing. He didn't change out to throw it in the sink. But they call it gooseneck. He put in a new garbage grinder, and it doesn't leak. And the garbage grinder works, so that's all good. The techs didn't leave any debris and took the old garbage disposal away. Everything was fine. However, be very careful. When any problem happens around the house, don't try to take care of it yourself and don't call any professional to take a look at it. Because if you do, you get screwed. That's what happened to my air conditioning.
My air conditioner guy came to maintain the system. And he said, "It's a problem. You're going to have to have a new unit on the roof." He opened up the system to maintain it, which is a standard procedure. And Home Shield's guys came to look at it. Then I called, and I didn't have him repair. I said, "I've got insurance for that." So, I called Home Shield. I said, "You need to come and take a look at it 'cause my AC's out." Guy looked at it, and he said, "They opened up the cabinet, and so, therefore, we have no responsibility." I got screwed out of about $6,500.
If you're doing normal maintenance on your own equipment, which has to be done in order for any equipment not to fail, and if there's any evidence that anybody's ever worked on it, except somebody that Home Shield called, they will not pay for any repairs or maintenance. That's not right and unjust. You don't buy insurance for that. That's like putting out a fire before the fire existed.
I will tell everybody that asked me about Home Shield that that is a problem. You gotta make sure that you figure out how nobody is gonna look at any of your equipment that's malfunctioning. And because if anybody else looks at it, Home Shield isn't gonna cover it. If they didn't pay for all of it, they ought to at least split costs on it. Because I didn't go into the thing wholeheartedly and try to tear it up so that you could repair it. I went into it as a maintenance system. If I hadn't paid for my own maintenance and the thing malfunctioned because a bearing worn out because I hadn't maintained it, then it would be different. But this was normal maintenance.

Our kitchen sink, dishwasher, and disposal were all not draining. The dishwasher and the disposal were holding water. And the only way that you can get it out was to literally take the piping and let it drain into a bucket. Leak Seekers came in and their plumber did what he did and magically, everything started to drain properly. It was very professional and very quick. He knew exactly what the problem was. It was fast, efficient. It was pretty easy to submit a claim with American Home Shield. Their warranty is great but the contracting service they send out is a hit or miss. We’ve had some poor cases before. But I have no problem recommending Leak Seekers to somebody else with a plumbing need.
Hi Dana,

My microwave had been smoking. The light fuse I had replaced a few years ago was actually the wrong one. And then, my light was only coming on halfway. The guy from Appliance Mechanics ordered a new component to fix the light. It actually comes on full, half, and off now, which is good. That's been broken for a while. I was impressed that he went above and beyond to fix it.
I really liked Appliance Mechanic. They're local and I tried to use them again. Home Shield wouldn't or couldn't set me up with them. They said they weren't available and didn't give me a reason. That's probably the only part of the service I don't like is that I'm not in control of that. I was not impressed with that. I have a light in my ceiling and the light housing part of it needs to be fixed. I need to get someone else to look at it at some point. I do, however, like the Home Shield's service. I also like that it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg to get stuff fixed, which I was really looking for too. Everyone so far, once I contact them, has been able to schedule morning stuff as I work at night. I wish they could do a gas fireplace.

The bottom shower needed a snake out the drain. Also, the cartridge for the knob for the shower upstairs was upside down so, when we turned it on, there was no balance between hot and cold. We just got American Home Shield and the first problem was handled quickly and efficiently. I liked it. Also, they found somebody that was local. The techs came right then and there that same day. It was very timely. They were very professional when they came through and they had their masks on. They were very knowledgeable about the situation and they got everything done. It was great. People need to have AHS and I would recommend it.

There were several different plumbing things. The technician was very nice and friendly. But he wasn't sure if the solution was going to be the fix. We're waiting it out just to see if I'm going to have any problem. I recently enrolled my mother in Home Shield and the salesperson told me that she could do more than one service request, like if it was electrical and plumbing, she could call both of them on the same service request. I called back just to confirm that and they told me they would look into it and get back with me but no one ever got back. They sold me on that for my mother, but then I could not get to the bottom of that on expectations. Other than that, the service has been fine. I'm satisfied.

My heater was making a “woof” noise, and then after that, it would start blowing out warm air. When it stopped working though, it was doing that “woof” noise, but it wasn't blowing out any air at all. I noticed it happening Saturday night. I went online to put in my information and then Monday, I got a call. The repairman came on Tuesday, and he was very knowledgeable, polite and professional. He was perfect. If I had another need for any such thing, I would love to have him back. He fixed my heater. He put in a new capacitor and it was good to go. I was thrilled. Now, the unit is still working great. In fact, it's working better than it's worked in a long time.

We had two services on the same HVAC unit. It had a heating issue recently, and then before, we had a cooling issue. Both times, they were pretty quick as far as the contractor setting an appointment and coming out. They took care of the issue in one trip with no added cost. So it was really great. Also, the claims process is very easy and quick. Just go on the website and submit a claim. Then within a day, I get notified from American Home Shield who the contractor is. The contractor calls me within a day and sets an appointment. I'm really impressed of how everything's gone and the service I received.
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

We were having an issue with the air conditioner. It was very easy to place an online claim. Once American Home Shield received the claim, it was within a matter of minutes that the contractor actually called me to set up a time for them to come out, with me completing the claim, and then them getting it. They had to come back out because we thought there was another issue. It turned out that it was an oversight on their part. But they've fixed it, and everything's good. It was a great experience.

We had a couple of things that weren’t working and the guy found out right away what one of them was. He also found out right away what the other one was. I had about four different electrical outlets that weren’t working and he got them all working. One of the sensors was wrong. I didn’t even know we have that sensor and he fixed that. He did a real good job. He was neat and he wore his mask. Out of 10, he did 10. He knew what he was doing and checked everything.
AHS is worth the effort and money and I feel like I’m not getting taken advantage of. If you call a guy for an appliance, suddenly it’s $700. With them, it’s like 70 bucks. It’s easy for me to budget on repairs that way and I feel comfortable in what they fix. Filing a claim with them is fairly easy except when you have more than one item so sometimes you have to call back about that. I’ll wait to call them sometimes. For the outlets, we worked around it for a while. Then I had a guy come for the washing machine. He rebalanced the machine. The only thing is I got one or two contractors that I don’t like and it’s kind of hard to say, “Don’t send those guys.”
We really appreciate you taking the time to share your rating with us. We look forward to servicing you again soon.

The plumber called me and within an hour, he was at my home. I had a leaking faucet and he fixed that. I had another area that had a leak but it wasn’t leaking when he came so he couldn't see where it was coming from. He advised us to call back when it starts to leak again. He said that if the leak was coming from the spot where we saw it, the floor would have to be dug up in the bathroom. AHS doesn't pay for that so, I would have to pay for the floor to come up in order for him to get to the leak. And that was one thing I wasn't happy with because if something needs to be fixed, it needs to be fixed. I assumed that to at least demolish and then replace with existing material would have been covered under my warranty. But as far as what was fixed this time and how quickly he responded and his demeanor, I was happy with that. He was friendly, personable, thorough and professional.
There was an issue one time when I had to make a phone call to AHS about my water heater. It ended up being resolved but had I not been persistent and argued my point, I would have not been reimbursed for my water heater. I was not happy with that experience to begin with. That was kind of a fiasco, having to get a hold of people, speaking to people that barely spoke English, being on hold forever, and being told one thing and then another happening. That was during the first year I had the warranty. If you're not going to stay on top of it, then there's a chance that it might not work for you. I also had something else fixed before where it had a clog in the line and then my sink was leaking. But that was handled properly.

Will Fixx It installed the cooktop, and they were thorough. I have no complaints about their work ethic. As far as American Home Shield, there is a very long waiting period on the phone. Coronavirus might be an issue, but maybe they can shorten that time. Other than that, it is a peace of mind when they are able to make the repairs. They are supposed to be doing a repair on my oven. It was a longer wait period before I could get a resolution. One person said it couldn’t be repaired. Someone else said they could do this and do that. So, I was unsure about how they were gonna handle it. Hopefully, they will take care of it. But they did come out for the thermostat and told me it would be six to eight weeks waiting period before they could finish that up.

A sink was leaking and the tech from SAP said the actual drain that goes down was off. He took that off and then put another one in. The experience was pretty quick and pretty easy. Everything with AHS has been pretty straightforward. The only thing was with the AC, they only cover $10 of the Freon and it was $100 so I still paid $90 for it. It would have been nice to know because it would’ve been cheaper just to hire a technician on my own than to go through them.

The service was great from American Home Shield, but I wish that when you placed a call for an item, it didn't take three days for someone to come. I called them first on Saturday morning, because that's when I noticed the leak. They couldn't come out until Monday, and at that point, there was no telling how long it had been leaking. The plumber was able to fix it really quick and he got in touch with American Water Damage. I might have been better off calling the plumber myself though. I still would have had water damage, but maybe less. Now, I have a big hole in my ceiling, which is not anybody's fault, because there was a lot of water in the ceiling.
The claims submission process is fine, but it's all an automated system and there's no way to communicate that you need something escalated. I wish that they had an option for when you need more immediate attention, even if you had to pay a little more for that. On a different note, there are times that American Home Shield is definitely beneficial. I had an expensive part on an air conditioner and it only cost me the service fee. The motherboard would have been $1,000. There are years that I don't use American Home Shield at all, but I'm a single woman. It's beneficial for me to have the service since I don't have somebody there to help me with the repairs.

Our heat was running constantly. The gentlemen, from the very beginning, always called and texted. They were really in touch with us which was impressive. They were good about setting up a time that was good for us then letting us know they were on their way. The young man was polite, friendly and clean. They said that there was a something up in the air handler that he had to tape and it works great now.
It was really easy to put in a claim. At first, I had questions because some plans offered maintenance as part of the plan. I called American Home Shield to see if that was the case and they said it wasn't. I said, “I don't know if it's just how the system runs, or if it has a problem.” They said I'd have to pay $75 for the maintenance then $75 if they'd find something wrong. I didn't like that part of it. I thought I was just going to put in that it's not running right and it ended up there was something it needed too. It wasn't encouraging to a homeowner to make sure their systems run correctly. I would rather have somebody do maintenance and fix it if they find something than wait till the middle of winter when the pipes freeze.

I've had a few claims with American Home Shield. When our garage door wouldn’t open and close, they sent someone right away and they fixed it. It's simple to get American Home Shield to act, but they are expensive. It started off at $35 a month and now, it's 50, so I am looking at finding cheaper ones out there. For right now, I haven't done anything about it. I only kept it in case the air conditioner went bad. I wanted to switch to another company when the summer was over, but then my wife said, “Well, what about the refrigerator?” That's a big one. The refrigerator was here when we moved in three years ago and I haven't had any trouble with it, but I don't know how old it is. I keep the home warranty mostly for those two units.
American Home Shield responds quickly and maybe that would be worth it to somebody, but people need to shop around. I could have had the garage door fixed for the amount that they charge me, the $100 and then the one month of $50. I don't know if it's worth it and I don't think I've gotten as much money as I put into it. They definitely made money off of me. Maybe they will read this and offer me a lower price for a while.

Greenway Home Services came to see what was going on with my heating unit. Sometimes it was coming on, and then sometimes it would go off. I've had service through Greenway before, and I prefer them as a provider to come out and look at my services. To file claims to American Home Shield, I would just go online, put in my account information, select what service I need, and then pay my fee. I would get an email with what contractor was gonna come out and then I just wait for them to come. They would call me and come within 24 to 48 hours.
I just had an incident when there was an issue with my dryer. We did get it fixed as soon as I was able to get a hold of the correct department. Due to the public health crisis, it was just a longer wait-time than normal to get things resolved. Within three days, I had a new dryer. I was referred from family members to have American Home Shield. For me being a single parent, it’s less costly for me to do that than to have to try to scrape up money to get someone to come in and fix a heating unit or to replace an appliance if it goes out. So for me, it was well-worth the money spent, because the money that I've paid out for the service, I've probably received more than the amount of coverage for it.

Both the freezer and fridge parts stopped. It warmed up. The freezer wasn't freezing anymore, and the refrigerator was not cooling anymore. Oak Valley Appliance came out and assessed the problem, came back a week later with parts, and right now, it's fixed. We're crossing our fingers that it holds. We were so relieved because we were working with a tiny refrigerator in our backyard and it was a nightmare. We're happy to have it working again.

We've had American Home Shield on and off for 13 years. A couple times it's it's ridiculous and nothing’s working kinda day so occasionally we go a year without it but we'd think it was easier when we had it. Filing a claim used to be easier. In the past, I could call especially if I had a combination or multiple problems. It was better to call because you can explain the faucet’s leaking but the shower head’s not or the handle is leaking and so is the shower head. If a plumber comes out, it would be easy for them to look at both things.
But now, with the online submission process, there’s not an easy way to say there are two things. You only put one thing then it takes it. You can't look at the other thing. That's a separate call so they're going to charge an extra $125 to look at one other item. You can't have them fix your washer and dryer and your sink but if you have two minor things that are the same specialty, then it would be nice to put them on the same ticket. There’s still a way to call but you have to go kind of around the system. It's not the standard way.
In the past, I have had excellent plumbers come and I've also had much worse plumbers. This is the second plumber that is very good. Our water heater was leaking and my husband was pretty sure it was a certain valve. The plumber came out, checked it and tested it. They went and got the valve and replaced it that day. They came out pretty quick so we were really happy. Another time, I had a really crappy guy come out and do it. They did a bad job. If a faucet handle was leaking, it's not leaking when he leaves but it's really hard to turn. Then give it about six months and it starts leaking again because all he did was tighten it down. He didn’t replace the little washer on the inside or whatever they had to do.
The price of the visit has gone up over the years and that's partially why we quit it for a little while. The individual call out is 125 bucks which is almost the price that you would pay a plumber anyway to come fix a leaky sink if it's something simple. Another complaint I have is if anything big ever breaks, they don't cover it. If your dishwasher breaks and to replace it with the same one would probably cost $600, they’ll give you 400. I haven't had anything big break in a long time so that's where it goes in the chute. They're really making money on us.

I love American Home Shield. I've been with them for a lot of years with several different houses. Before I purchased this home, I had another home that I shared with my husband. We were under the home warranty with that home. I just like the fact that the home warranty helps me. Even when I was a Realtor, I used American Home Shield and I recommended them to my clients. I love the fact that they cover whatever equipment that you have and they do the work pretty much in a timely fashion. Sometimes, the contractors that they send out aren't very fast. But I like that when I contact them, they try to resolve that issue as well. They give great customer service and their employees are really nice. I like their service all the way around.
But there are things that could be improved like the contractors’ response time. Also, some of the contractors that American Home Shield uses have taken for granted that they have a contract so they don't treat their customers very nicely. I'm not happy with some of the contractors. Other than that, American Home Shield itself is good. I just purchased a home and recently, the refrigerator went out. I didn't have to pay the whole $1,800 for a refrigerator because American Home Shield gave me a replacement value for the one that I had. My funds are low now and that was a great help.

We've been happy with American Home Shield. The heater went out right when it was starting to get cold. It was on a weekend, so we called and American Home Shield responded right away and put a request through to Tempest HVAC. First thing Monday morning, we got a call from Tempest HVAC and they said they would have somebody out in the next couple hours. They arrived really soon. The guy was polite, he was wearing a mask, and he was able to fix the issue right away and we were very happy that it was as seamless as it could be.
Submitting a claim was really good. With the online system, I wasn't sure what to check because I wasn't sure what part of the heating it was, so I ended up calling and somebody answered right away. She took down the information and was very helpful. It was quick, and she was very helpful. We like having the warranty because it helps us not worry about the unexpected. It helps you deal with the unexpected things that come up with a house. We've been with them a long time. We don't need them often but when we do, we're really glad to have them.

Everything with American Home Shield is hit-or-miss. My first experience with filing a claim was terrible. But since then, I've had a couple pretty good ones. The warranty came with the home I just purchased, and I closed on it in late July of this year. I had two beneficial experiences. One was I had a rekey and the I had two HVAC things done. They were like a free winter heating check-up which went really well. I also had an issue with the air conditioning earlier that did work too well. That got fixed pretty nicely. The plumbing service call went poorly. Unfortunately, that was the first one too.
The guy that came, Matt, was from Flowright Plumbing. I had to place a service call because I had a sink that was not draining properly. So, first, it started okay. They dispatched the guy pretty quickly. The guy came over. He had been at my place for only like a minute. He looked at the thing and said, "The drainage pipe was not installed correctly and needs to be reinstalled, so I need to contact the warranty folks to see whether or not the service will be covered." I said, "Okay. Well, let me know." I didn't hear from him. A week or more went by without hearing from anything. I don't have any means to contact these guys directly, so I contacted the Home Shield customer service. Over the course of six weeks, I contacted them many times. Then I kept getting different service advisers who would promise me that they would do something but they had to contact the company one more time to see if they would file this claim thing.
I said, "Well, every time I do this, you guys tell me the same thing, that you have to contact him one more time. Stop contacting him, because he doesn't respond. Now give me another plumber." They never did. Finally, I hired a plumber on my own. That service thing was never resolved through AHS. So, that was my biggest disappointment. I'm still kind of stung from that first series of disappointments where I had to deal with many customer service agents, and none of whom helped me over the course of many weeks. That was a real poor representation of American Home Shield.

American Home Shield had a person come to my house on October 6th and he claimed I needed a new pipe. It was leaking a bit and he wasn't gonna change it because he needed to get permission from AHS. Then, he said that the guts of the toilet had to be changed out and he claimed he did that. I made a follow-up and I called the company. They asked if I got my authorization because they called AHS and they haven't heard back. I called AHS and they said that the tech never called. I was back and forth with the two of them for about two weeks. Meanwhile, my toilet was still having the issue that was supposedly fixed when he changed the guts out.
I used to get onshore service when I call AHS but now, they put their call centers offshore and people were reading from a script. The rep said they haven't heard from the vendor and I told them that I was the customer here. The concern should be with me and not with the plumber who has not done his job. They didn't want to hear it. They said they were waiting for a diagnostic code. I said I understood but the guy was not doing his job and did not call it in. So I'm stuck in the middle of the crossfire. They said over and over that they couldn’t do anything without a diagnostic code. We had to threaten to cancel my warranty but they still gave me the same runabout. This went on for about several hours over several days. It was very frustrating. So finally, I asked if they could send another vendor to my house so we could start over and get someone else who would do their job. But they still said they couldn’t do anything without a diagnostic code.
After so many escalations, they gave me a new vendor. The vendor came over and it turned out the pipe wasn't busted. There was nothing wrong with it but they wanted to charge me $395. It was a loose screw and they tightened it. Also, the new guy said that the guts of the toilet that was still broken was never changed out. He changed it out and the issue was resolved. I was very close to getting rid of the home warranty. In the end, when I got someone new, it was okay. But I shouldn't have had to go through all that to get assistance.

I've been real happy with American Home Shield. Normally, they're very responsive. They send good people. I have not been unhappy with any company that they sent to the house to fix anything. Even if they have to come back, it's just a few days. However, it's taking way too long to get my parts in and get my washing machine fixed. It sounds like it's gonna blow the walls every time I turn it on. The guy that came out and looked at it said that if it was him, he would simply replace it. If not, they have to do a whole rebuild. But American Home Shield would probably want rebuild which is exactly what happened. It's been over a month already so that got me kind of flustered. I don't know what's up with this washer other than the guy was probably right. It should be replaced than fixed.
I hate the automated system for requesting service. It takes too long. You can't get to where you need to go unless you do all their steps even when you know where you need to go. It ignores you and starts asking the same question over again. I just need to tell a person what I need and get on with it. I don't need to go through an automated system for 15 minutes then it would say, "Let me give you a representative." They need to get rid of it. It's a pain. Also, it seems like everybody that they do send out are not local. Tempo HVAC installed my system. They're the only ones that have ever worked on it. Yet, they can't do anything because they can't get through an agreement with American Home Shield. But I should be able to use them if I want and get reimbursed up to a certain amount. There should be a little more flexibility for the customer.

Serenity was professional. They came in and did what they were supposed to do. They fixed the stove. American Home Shield has a simple process but because of the Coronavirus, we had to wait like a week before someone came out. I have a lot of complaints about American Home Shield. It started because I have a house in California and we were out there for some business and the air conditioner went out. I called on a Friday, and they said they couldn't send anyone out until Monday. It was 110 degrees. Then I asked them if I could call someone that had already fixed the air conditioner that went with them, and they said no. I switched to American Residential because the deductible was cheaper. They only charge $50.
Then, when I got back to Alabama, I was gonna switch my house in Alabama from American Home Shield to American Residential. I never really got to do it since a lot of stuff started happening. I'm still with American Home Shield but I was gonna switch because I was not pleased. Also, when I got back to Alabama, I told them about what happened, and then they told me to send the receipt that we had paid, and that we will be reimbursed, but we never heard from them. I did what I was supposed to do. Now, I just had some bad experience with American Home Shield. I'd tell others, “Don't go with American Home Shield. Go with American Residential ‘cause your deductible are cheaper, but you get the same service.”
When you have an older home, things happen. We bought this house two years. The hot water heater went out. It's like back in the summer. So, we paid our $100 deductible, but because it had to be brought up to a code because our hot water heater had been over 20 years, we came out of pocket $800. So, unless we missed it, I think it should be explained more. They should let the customers know if something like that happens, we will be coming out of our pocket. That was a shocker for us. Sometimes we sign up for these warranties and we don't read everything. But when you do sign up, it'd be really nice if someone explains to you what could come out of your pocket.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

Requesting service from AHS seemed pretty simple. The only thing I had a problem with is you have to pay the service charge when you already paid 800. I wasn't aware that on top of the warranty cost, there was a service charge. Maybe I didn't read the contract all the way through. That cost needs to be explained in the beginning to the customer. Once the service people do a diagnostic to see what the problem is, they let AHS know. AHS takes care of it from then on and that includes cases where the cost of the claim is 300 or above.
When I was having problems with a fan that was inside my garage, AHS assigned my claim to Georgia Boy Electric. A guy came out and he did a great job. It didn’t take him long to fix the problem. I wasn't all the way dissatisfied but my wife was because she said I could have gone and done that myself. But I told her that if I called up my friend and had him come over and we do the work, it was still gonna cost us. He was gonna charge me $60. The claim was 100 and something.

We did a pre-season winter check and an A-US Air technician came out. He was on time and he explained things to me. He was very clean and orderly in how he took care of the work. Service with A-US Air was really good. I was very satisfied. But there is a case where I have an issue with the GE service company. I'm going to do a claim because I'm not satisfied with my customer service. They make an appointment then they call to tell me they can't come, but they will come the next day without coordinating with me when I gotta work. And when I call back, it would be three weeks before I get an appointment. I don't get that.

Suncoast did a great job with the refrigerator. The tech came out and evaluated the freezer. It had build up a frost. He replaced the seal around the freezer on the inside, and everything is working fine. If you do the claim online, you kinda don't get to say exactly what's going on. If you call in, then they can input the information. The last couple of times, I've done it online, and I had somebody come out and it was something they didn't cover. If they told me that upfront, then I wouldn't have been charged for them making a trip. I ended up getting it fixed by another company. But most of the time, they usually handle what I'm requesting. So it seems to be better if you call in. At least you get to talk to somebody and can get that confirmed that what you're requesting service for is something they handle.

The claim for my garbage disposal was easy to submit. I explained to the first technician that came out to repair it that when I turned it on to grind up an eggshell, it started making a loud, metallic noise, almost like something fell into it, like a fork or spoon, although I know nothing fell into it. I immediately shut it off, I went out to my garage and got my pliers, and I pulled out pieces from the garbage disposal and they were the actual blades. It was 15 years old. It's the original garbage disposal.
The technician told me that he didn't have time to call Home Shield because it takes him an hour and a half for an authorization and it was already 4:30. He wanted to go home. He would have to call for an authorization, come back and replace it because he's not allowed to wait for an authorization. Although he told me on two previous jobs the same day, he waited for an authorization. I was like, "Whatever, dude. Just order me a new one and come back." He was from Hers and His Plumbing and he was awful. He acted like he didn't even want to be there. He was in a hurry to get home. And then, he didn't even listen to what I told him.
I then got an email from Home Shield later that evening that said to call them. And they said, "We're not going to cover it because your technician said there was a fork in there. It was damaged by misuse." I was like, "No, there was not a fork in there. That's not what I told him. I said it sounded like something was in it, but I know nothing was in it." They said, "Okay. So we'll send out another technician from a different company." When the second company came out, the tech looked at it. I showed him the blades that have fallen off. He said, "Yeah, this happens all the time when they get old. This is the second one I'm changing today." He was in and out in 30 minutes and fixed the problem. I have recommended Home Shield to several folks at work and they have signed up.
Thanks for sharing you experience and thanks for recommending us.

H&K Plumbing came twice in the last month. It was easy to call in for both of the claims. The most recent one was my dishwasher was making a squealing noise. The guy found that it was some type of valve that had to be replaced. They were fine. I also had the refrigerator and sump pump claims and both were fine. The sump pump was not an issue. Therefore, I wasted like $75 but it was fine because I got a lesson in it. The guy pointed out some stuff and explained to me how to test it properly. Then, there was a leak on the refrigerator and the guys fixed it. I haven't had a problem with it leaking since.
These have only been a couple of experiences with American Home Shield and a very close timeframe. The follow-up was a little slow. For example, the first time, it was an issue with the dishwasher. So, when I initially called for the dishwasher issue, they asked what the brand was and I couldn't see where the brand was. That was when they sent somebody for the refrigerator, who was supposed to also be able to work on the dishwasher. But when he got here and saw that the dishwasher was Bosch, he said that he wasn't qualified to do Bosch. So, he was gonna let them know and try to find someone who could.
I didn't hear back from the contractor for a while. Then he called me, but it was by accident. So, I knew that he was working on the problem. He hadn't gotten back to me after about two weeks. And so, I gave it two weeks and I called and left a message for him. I didn't hear back from him. Then, I called American Home Shield and they were able to get someone out. Coincidentally, after they got someone out, he called me back and said that he wasn't able to find whoever it was to do whatever work. But I already had somebody come in and fix it. Other than that little glitch with that follow up, the experience has been fine.

The technician had to put a wire at the back of the stove and showed me what was going on with that. He showed me also with the cooktop so that was good. He was cool. I also had a claim with American Home Shield for the plumbing. Today was the third day that the plumber has come out for the bathroom, for the tub and the faucets in the tub. The first technician agreed with me on the first thing. The whole thing needed to be replaced because the trap where you shut the water off from going out the tub was bad. I told them about the leak so they sent another guy. He tried to put these things but it didn't do anything. So, they sent another guy out and he put in the different things. So he put one in, went back and found out it broke. I was telling them that it would be cheaper if they replace the whole thing. The guy came back out today and tried it again with another set and they didn't work. So, it’s still dripping.
AHS would want you to try to do it the cheapest way. By the time they sent somebody out here three times, and we got the same problem, I could have told them that. I would replace the whole thing but I just got too old and I got a knee and hip replacement. So, I couldn't do all that but I know something about it. Most of the time, I just buy a whole thing like the parts. I can do that. I figured out this is the cheapest route but the main thing is making the effort to get everything fixed, which is the thing I appreciate more. Make sure it's right. I've experienced that with my oven and the cooktop thing.

So, he said, “I'll get out there next week.” But then he ended up coming out the next day. He shifted some stuff around because he and my dad know each other. It's a small town. He got out there within 48 hours. He ended up having one of his crew stay there with my dad and do all the stuff that needed to get done, and then he came back when it was time to finish things. He is amazing. He shows up and he's timely. Super professional. Great, super courteous, hard workers, and did good quality work.
In the case of my dad, it was obviously gonna go to Randy. He's the only guy in town. What's frustrating for me, in general, because we have policies on several different properties, you don't know who you will get. Sometimes you get somebody who isn't very good, and you put in the system, “Please don't ever send this person to my house again,” but then they would still get assigned to it. Then you have to follow up with a phone call. And when I've reached out to them over the phone, they were always like, “Oh, yeah, you should submit this online.” It's a weird system. Other than that, we recommend Home Shield. We have policies on several properties and it has been beneficial. It's worth the investment of doing it. We've had some wonky things happen and they took care of them.

I have had some difficulty submitting the claim. But it's improved. It seems the customer service area has improved. I've had much better experiences than I had way back in the day.
My pool pump was broken and we had used this company that was very, very good. We really were very pleased with them. Because 10 years ago, the issue that we had with American Home Shield was mostly with the pool companies that they were using. They either didn't show up or their work wasn't quality, and we have not had that problem as of recently. We've had great people coming out. So something had happened with the pool and I had made an appointment. There was another unrelated issue that happened with the pool a month prior. But then there was no area for me to say that it was a different issue. There was no area to say it was not a recheck, because it had nothing to do with the first issue. They were totally different issues. But because they were within a certain timeframe, they categorized it as a revisit.
The claim was kinda kicked out of the system. I spoke with someone from American Home Shield and I told her exactly what was going on. She said, “Well, we're just gonna put it in as a recheck. And if the gentleman comes out, and he realizes it is a different issue, as you say, he'll just charge you the $70 again, and we'll work that out on the back end.” I said that would be great. In the meantime, my pump wasn't working, and we live in Texas. So, it was a critical situation because the water starts getting green. But on the Home Shield end, it kicked out again. So I was waiting for my appointment and nobody showed up. I called the company and the tech said he never got the invoice to come out. The reason was because it was supposed to be a recheck, but it wasn't a recheck. So it got real confusing.
The tech said he had room to come see me. But he said he couldn't come out because they hadn't given him the approval to come out. When I called American Home Shield, they said, “Oh, no. We're gonna give you somebody else, and it could be up to 48 hours.” I've already waited the 48 hours, and then something on Home Shield’s end was wrong. But it ended up working out. The other contractor ended up coming that night, which was very lucky. He was in the area. He was excellent. But I didn't wanna have to go through the whole thing all over again. Because the weekend was involved, and it could’ve been a lot worse than it was.
A lot of times, there had been problems with things not being covered because Home Shield said it may not be maintained properly. We had a heater for our spa and we ended up having Home Shield replace it, but it was like an Act of Congress for me to get them to do that. Because they kept telling me that we hadn't maintained it properly. I had to really fight for it to get fixed because there was really nothing that I did wrong. So if there is any way that they think that things need to be maintained, that should be something that should be told to people ahead of time.
I have liked better being able to schedule the service very quickly. Sometimes, I don't have a computer and I don't have access to go online. But I've had no problem in doing it over the phone. The only glitch I had was when we hit this gray area where it wasn't a revisit, and there was no prompt to hit for the same item. So I did have to call and wait for however long I waited.
When it got canceled, I don't know who I was talking to or where he was from, but there were roosters crowing in the background. He was like in some foreign country. It was very hard for me to understand him, and I was pretty much begging him to let this pool company come back so I didn't have to go through them troubleshooting again. Because this company knew exactly what was wrong because they had been here before. But he would not do it. He said he couldn't do it. He kept saying over and over again the same answer that was on his card. I wanted to kill him at the end of our conversation. I told him, “Okay, so you're not gonna change it, right?” He said, “Ma'am, no, I'm not.” I told him I wish he had told me that 35 minutes ago.

I have a wonderful experience with AHS. Submitting a claim has been very easy. I call them and I submit the problem. They'll call me back and they'll turn it over to whoever is going to get the job. They send me a text message saying, “This person is scheduled to come out. If you don't hear from them within 24 hours, you may call them, discuss your appointment yourself." I like that.

The breaker was flipping and it wouldn’t keep the electric on on one side of the house. The tech's service was professional and helpful, and so he fixed the problem. He's good. Having AHS has been beneficial because I'd rather pay $100 than having thousands of dollars to pay for something.

The pool pump was not shutting down and AHS sent out Expert Pools. The tech checked everything and found out the problem was with a relay on the panel. He removed that one, installed a new one, and everything has been working fine. He also checked everything else and left. He was awesome and when he was here, he was wearing a mask. We didn't shake hands and he just said hi from afar. Everything was by the book and he did a hell of a job.

I had a pinhole leak in one of my supply lines behind my washing machine. I submitted the claim over the phone and it took me 15 minutes tops. SWAT Plumbing's tech was great. The only thing is he came a little late, as far as timewise in the day. But he told me that they had him scheduled until 8:00 or 9:00. You got to get it in where you can.
My biggest concern with AHS is there's not a lot of transparency as far as replacements. Say, the heat strips in my electric furnace go out, techs will come out, repair it if they can. If it can't be repaired, AHS doesn't pay for a new unit. That's the biggest misconception that I get with a lot of the realtors. They tell their clients, "Oh, well, you know, if it goes out and it breaks, they'll replace it." That's not the case. They will replace it like $2,000. But when you're talking about an $8,000 system, and you just bought a home, most people don't have an extra $6,000 sitting around. It puts them in a jam and upsets them when they think that it's covered as a full replacement. Other than that, I've used AHS three times. I've been in my house since June. I'm a licensed home inspector and run an inspection firm here in Texas with 50 inspectors statewide. We recommend AHS to all of our clients when they're purchasing a home and the realtors as well too.

We've had American Home Shield for four years ever since we lived in our house. The most frustrating thing with American Home Shield is how they get their vendors or contractors to do the work. Over and over again, every time we've had a claim, they'll send somebody that are about three hours away from us, which makes no sense because you might have 10 or 15 plumbers literally within 10 miles of you instead of 72 miles away. There was nothing wrong with the person that came out for the sump pump, but I'm shocked that somehow, American Home Shield doesn't have a list of multiple providers to choose from.
One instance, we had a service request on one of our kitchen appliances. When they sent us the name of the contractor by email, it was like, “What in that heck is this?” It was some car repair shop. I thought, “What on earth is going on?” I called this car shop in the morning and I say, “Do you guys work on appliances too?” “No. I don't know why they have us there. People call us all the time. No, we don't work on appliances. We work on cars.” It was the craziest thing. I don't know if they don't have enough people lined up to be contractors for them or what, but I'd like to get local businesses. I don't understand that process.
I called the lady from AHS and I said, “You know what? We've had several service calls before with you guys. And I'm just telling you, every single time, over and over and over again, they'll call and say, ‘We don't service your area. We don't service your area. I don't know why American Home Shield has us on the list. We don't service your area. I'm not going to drive that far.’” I said, “Here you have Morgan Plumbing or whatever it was called coming out. They’re 72 miles from our house. I'm sure they're gonna call us and tell us that they don’t service our area.” But they did come and they were very nice.
Other than that, I've had about six people contract with American Home Shield, one being my sister, because I do appreciate their business. The other day, my mom said, “Well, I know you have it and I know you told Renee to get it. I'm thinking about it.” I said, “You should. Anybody that owns a home should absolutely have it. You're stupid not to have it.” It's a great product. It's a great thing to have. I swear by it.
AHS needs to get more contracts. There's one business here that been to our house a couple of times. It's called Mr. Appliance and they're amazing. But you might get them for your dishwasher and then you'll never see them come back. They do all appliances, so I don't get it. They've been to your house. They do a great job. They serviced your house. But you couldn't get them back if your life depended on it. I've even asked for them like, “Send out Mr. Appliance. He's literally eight miles from our house. He's been in our house, He looked at our dishwasher.” They couldn't do it. “What do you mean you can't do it? He's already been here before for something.” When somebody has already been here about kitchen appliances, you think they would authorize them to come back, but they don't. They send whoever pops up on their computer next. It could be the car repair guy that lives 80 miles away. It’s just weird.

Our AC went out over the summer and the contractor said they couldn't get a part. It was terrible 'cause it was too hot in the house and my mom couldn't breathe. I had to move her out of the house into a hotel. Because of COVID, the company had shut down and the AC took a bit longer to get fixed than normal. It was a bad situation that was made worse 'cause the part wasn't there, but that was it. It wasn't American Home Shield's fault and they were very apologetic. Recently, a different contractor came to check our heater and it was great. He said everything was good.

I explain a little more of what's going on and they send somebody out. It’s seamless. D & B Plumbing Services was one provider I had and they were really good. Sometimes it's frustrating because there's information I can't add. I wish there was a place where I could put notes but there wasn’t. Still, the repair guys were great. They were very friendly, thorough, helpful and gave good information about the filters. What’s most important is that they showed up on time. People should go with AHS. Overall, it's good. It relieves me from having to figure out people to find or service professionals. I don't have to think about it as much. It was tricky getting a plumber though. I had a plumbing situation and AHS has two plumber companies contracted. There wasn't anybody local that AHS could use and the plumbers had to come from a long way away. So, if it's plumbing, I would be a little more hesitant.

The contractor was told before they came out to the house that it was a vaulted ceiling. I had two light fixtures that had gone out. I had requested them to come and check the wiring to the light fixtures because I was having an ant problem and ants were coming through those light fixtures. The guys came here but they didn't bring a tall enough ladder. They flipped on the light switch and said, "They don't work." I said, "Yes. That's why I called you." They left and when they did, they said, "We will get back to you. We'll bring a bigger ladder."
A couple of days went by and I hadn't heard from them so I called them. They said that they were calling AHS to get approval to replace the light fixtures. I said, "How do you know the light fixtures need replacing? You haven't tested them yet." They said the guys claimed that they went up there and put wire testers on them which they did not. So, I called American Home Shield and said, "I don't need them to replace my light fixtures. I need them just to test the wiring." American Home Shield was arguing with me telling me that the guys had already tested the lights and I said they didn't. They charged me the $75 fee and closed it out. They said, "We're complete because we won't approve the light fixtures." I told them nobody had done anything yet but American Home Shield told me that I was lying, that they had come out and done all this work.
I was trying to explain the issue to the young man that I got when I called and you could tell he was reading something that's written in front of him. He just kept going over and over. He kept arguing with me and nobody was believing me. I proceeded to go and get my son's tall ladder. I climbed up there and realized that the ants had busted the light bulbs and the entire light fixture was full of dead ants. If they had gone up there and tested those wires like they said they had, they would have found what I found. I cleaned all that out, replaced the bulbs in it, and everything's working fine.
I've left messages and nobody will call me back. The lady did send me an email and said she'd call me this morning. I told them I did not need an electrician for that. They were willing to send out a second electrician. I told them I've already fixed it even though the wiring had never been tested. That was my big concern getting my wiring done so that I didn't burn my house down. I wanted my $75 back because they charged me $75 to flip on the light switch. I did respond and say, "If you wanna take that $75, put it on a new claim." I've got a bad breaker. It didn't trip the first month I lived here and all of a sudden, a breaker in the kitchen just trips for no apparent reason. But I'm very hesitant about calling American Home Shield because they have literally called me a liar now. I'm very dissatisfied and I wouldn't recommend them anymore.

Lewis plumbing was fantastic. The only thing that could be improved is the time of the replacement. It took under two weeks from the time they came until the water heater came in. That has something to do with how they source their replacement parts. If you weren't using a home warranty, you’d just go to the store. You’d go to Home Depot, and they would have your water heater. I think it's because AHS has to order it through their system, which is fine, but it made the process take more hours. I'm glad I had a second water heater. Cold showers for two weeks would have been pretty tough. Other than that, I was perfectly satisfied. They did a great job and they explained that to me upfront.

So, I called in and a gentleman was able to assist me. I had the service scheduled. He had informed me that the contractor would be contacting me within 24 hours to schedule the appointment. With the instructions, it says if you’re unable to wait, you could simply give a call to the individual. I did that because it was cold. The guy that came said that he had to lit the furnace for some reason. He tried a couple of times because initially, it was not working out the first time he did it. He used his expertise and got it to eventually lit.
When the guy was here, it was not an uncomfortable conversation. He was friendly. He was very understanding. I asked him questions, and he replied to me. Now, heat is coming from one of the heating vents, but not the other one. I was going to call about that to inquire. I do know they have a policy where the contractor is able to come back within 24 hours of the scheduled thing. But I did not notice that the heating vent was not working.
American Home Shield's reviews were great. I like to read reviews before I attempt to make any investments in anything, and the reviews were mostly positive. You can't satisfy everyone out there. But for most part, the reviews are positive and that's what I went by. I did have one interaction with American Home Shield that I did not like very much. I called in and I was requesting questions as in regards to my account being on a certain status, and the status would be absolved within max 30 days and so forth.
I was speaking to a young lady and she had me on hold for about 10 minutes. Then after 10 minutes, I was rerouted back to the standard queue of the regular queue. Then I had to repeat everything, what had happened and why I was calling. Eventually, that young man that assisted me the second time around was able to follow up with me. He also confirmed that if the call would be dropped, he would reach out back to me, which he did. That definitely balanced out the whole thing.

And then, on our hallway, we had the same kind of situation, where there were two switches and the only one worked. I put a ticket out online. The process there has been very quick. I got an automated text that said if the contractor hadn't contacted me in a certain amount of time, I could contact them. But they contacted me first. Jeremy was great. He was very informative and knew right away what was going on. So, he was able to fix all those issues. I was very satisfied.
We've had Home Shield since 2005 and we have used it several times. Once on a refrigerator, a couple of times on a washing machine, and this recent time for electrical. It hasn’t been really big things, but it has come in handy. It gives me some peace of mind that I can just put in a ticket and someone is gonna come take care of what's wrong.

AHS offered to put out a certain amount of money for a new refrigerator. So we bought another refrigerator. Everything seemed to go smoothly. AHS was very helpful and respectful. There was an issue with the spin cycle on my washer. American Home Shield sent in a guy to see what the problem was and he saw that it would take so much manpower to fix. So, he put in the request that I should just replace it. Then they came back with an email saying that they would help pay up to $627 for a new washer. So, I went to P.C. Richards and purchased the new one for a little over 1,000, and I'm just waiting for the reimbursement portion from the insurance company. Overall, I'm okay with American Home Shield. When I call them, they come out and they send people out to inspect or do the work. But sometimes, they don't really have control over the technicians that they send. The first technician did the work but he wasn't a nice guy. But the second one was really nice.

The guy that came out the other week for a second opinion said that the microwave door was damaged. But there's nothing that American Home Shield can do for that because it's not like the microwave isn't still functional. I'm a little frustrated with the microwave issue. But James from Brick Street Plumbing who came out for a toilet clog was fantastic. He was the best I've ever had. He was quick, efficient, clean, and professional.

We were having some occasional smells coming from our backyard where a septic system was. Then the bathroom closest to that septic system, which is a master bedroom toilet, would just back up every third time. We would have to plunge to get it to move solids through. What the tech determined was that it was the mechanisms in the toilet that wasn't allowing enough flow to water. He didn’t pull the septic lids. I've been checking there. He didn't think that was necessary. He was very nice, very polite and explained things well. I got nothing but good to say about him. That was not my experience with some of the vendors that AHS has. In fact, I've got one vendor on my list that I do not want to use. Other than that, it's very easy to submit a claim to AHS. I normally do it online. It’s easier. My water kept running and it wouldn't stop, and the repair guys stopped it. They cleaned up and explained stuff to me. They showed me what was going on and how come the water was running, so that was good.
If something’s wrong and you’re having problems with your refrigerator, stove or whatever, it would be best to call AHS. They got good service and they don't lag like some do. They get right on it and send somebody out. A lot of other people on the internet tried to get me to change over and I wouldn't do it. I said that I’ve got the best. I had a leak in the master bath that was causing water to seep underneath the luxury vinyl tile. I did a service request to American Home Shield online. The process worked. I have used it many times and the latest three times, it worked really well. Each time I've used the system, I've gotten a response. The first time I used American Home Shield, I was very disappointed, and I almost did not renew my contract.
I live in Baldwin County, Alabama, which is down on the coast, and I had an air conditioning problem in the middle of the summer. The air conditioning was completely out in a rental home. So the renters are looking to me to get it fixed. I called American Home Shield, and their provider was out of Birmingham, which is four hours away and couldn't get there for a week and a half. In that case, I cancelled the call, requested a refund and considered seriously canceling my contract with them. I ended up hiring somebody local that came out the next day and I ended up having to replace the unit out-of-pocket. That was a very disappointing service call. They did refund my service contract fee and I still had the service contract. They didn't cancel the contract, and I didn't insist on it.
I recently had a problem with the microwave in the rental home, and they sent somebody out. It was gonna be a week and a half before they could get there, but the microwave’s not as critical as the AC in July. So, the homeowner was willing to wait. The microwave was Whirlpool. I had thought it was GE and when the microwave technician came out there, he said, “I only work on GE.” So he left.
American Home Shield then contacted me and scheduled another person. He was supposed to come out this Wednesday. I have not talked to the renter to see if they were able to fix it. This is the second microwave that's gone out in like two years. So, we think it's an electrical problem and that was what I conveyed to the last person I talked to about it.
The most recent claim was the plumber who came to my home where I was living, and I was here at the time. He was dressed nice. He was clean. I was very impressed by the fact that in order to resolve the issue, he had to remove the commode and replace the wax seal, which is what I thought was wrong. He brought in a piece of cardboard to be able to sit the commode onto after he removed it so that it wouldn't dirty the floor. Then when he finished, he made sure the floor was as clean as it was when he got here. It was very impressive.
Overall, I've had three issues where I sent service requests for. One, I've been very satisfied with, one, I was totally dissatisfied with, and the other is kind of unresolved at this point. They're very responsive in terms of if you put in a ticket. But another thing with AHS is they've been hounding me for $125 service call. Every time I put in a service request, I authorize payment of the service call. So, I'm not gonna pay them another $125. I don't know what it's for. Rather than wait through their telephone system, they'll eventually call me looking for it and I'll find out what it's for. Then if it's due, I'll pay it.

They replaced the sink and it was all done in one day. A-1 Plumbing also replaced both of my water heaters. I recommend American Home Shield all the time anyways. $700 is a lot but they can break that monthly. But to me, it’s been worth it.

The garage door sensors weren't working and the garage door wouldn’t close. I filed a claim with American Home Shield for a contractor to come out. O’Donnel Doors was excellent but the customer service representative that answered the phone needs to be trained. The lady gave me the wrong information about what the maintenance person was going to do. When the tech arrived, he was very apologetic and polite that that was not a service that they provided. But he fixed the garage extremely fast. He had his mask on and worked very quickly.
But I’m a little bit upset with AHS because I have had a non-working freezer since September. I kept calling the maintenance company that they sent out here. They showed me that AHS approved for me to have my refrigerator replaced. I have not been able to reach them in all of October and November because I'm unable to stay on the phone for an hour wait-time. I've asked if somebody could pass a message that the department that replaces appliances would call me but I have not received a phone call. Also, I've sent emails to customer service.
I'm really upset with them that they have not reached out to me. I had to go buy myself a small refrigerator while I wait. Who wants to make that extra expense? It's been a huge inconvenience. The same thing happened with my stove. I went for eight weeks without a working oven with five kids at home. I was able to get through because I was on a long car drive and I stayed on speakerphone on Bluetooth. They apologized and said they should have called me.
I've been with American Home Shield since 2013. They always had the best service that’s why I've stayed with them. But as a person that's been with the company for nine years, I've seen the decline of their service. I will not renew my plan with them. I’m researching other plans to see if there is some better. I’m really sad that I’m gonna have to go somewhere else and hope that their service isn't as bad.

American Home Shield is useless. There should be very clear-cut things if we're going to do more than multiple repairs. I called them to come out here to do a tune-up. When I called and asked, I was told that it's $75 because it's just that one person that's coming out here to do that but I got charged $225. They should've disclosed that I was going to be charged $75 for each unit, not $75 per service line. I've not been happy with American Home Shield since the start of all of this. Prior to this, I had no problems with them and I had them for years. But with the purchase of my home, this has been a disaster, from the way that it was done at closing to how long it took for the contract to be up and going. I had to pay out of my pocket for two toilets to be installed and flanges to be replaced because they did not have anything together on their side.
I don't know that they need to be involved in mortgage. Whenever you do a purchasing of a home, I don't know that that's their strong suit. In the past, I've always purchased it myself, so there have never been issues. I was promised in the beginning when I gave them my loan number as far as communication for my warranty and they weren't able to help. They didn't find me. They said they would call me back but nobody ever did. That really had me very upset. When I finally did get my documents which was probably about three days later, they had the check and they told me everything was to be done online. When you just recently closed on a home and you've already got some issues going on, it shouldn't be like that. It was two toilets I couldn't use at all.

They did not give a type of rapport that a consumer like myself may want to call them back out again. So I chose not to utilize their services and went with a different company that I booked on my own.
We had a claim for my refrigerator and it was awesome. I would call that serviceman out again, a million times over if I could. We had an awesome rapport. He was very friendly. It’s a new house and we didn't understand how the thing even works. But some of the contractors that I had thought they were on the network, but somehow it didn't seem to be, and they could have done it. The initial person AHS sent us had to come out and then decide that they needed someone else to come in. We ended up with somebody else. I called American Home Shield and they sent out Universal Air. Their tech was very knowledgeable and professional. He took care of the issue on the first visit and the air condition works.

Two gentlemen from Elite Electric came out and they were professional, had their mask on and were very helpful. I was asking a lot of electrician questions, like just around my condo, and they were answering. They were very knowledgeable. One of the things that I had a problem with was in my kitchen, there were two outlets that they said may need like a GFCI. They were able to look at it and see that it didn't need that, but it needed something else. So they saved me some money where I just paid $6 extra. That was nice.
Another one of my problems was the light fixture by the front door. That hasn't been working since I've moved here. They took a look at that and had educated me on that, gave me a lot of education, and told me how it was missing a piece. I might as well just take it down and get a new one. The tech was really kind enough to take it down for me. Then I also had needed a light bulb changed in the bathroom. He did that. I had a light bulb already so he switched that out for me. He even wrote down recommendations of what type of light I need, so I can upgrade it. They were very kind people. I really like American Home Shield.

American Home Shield is good. This service was better than the last service I received from them. The claim was for a garage opener. I went online first then I called it in. It was pretty easy. So far, so good. It is working. The only concern I had was, and maybe it's my fault for not saying anything, the cover itself is not covered. It's shattered but it didn't get replaced. Because of the heat, the bolts that are on there fried. I've had to glue it back with epoxy quite a few times. But the people that were sent out were qualified and knowledgeable of fixing the problem. The last service was really poor.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that is knowledgeable and able to explain what is going on. We look forward to our continued business together. Have a good day.

I needed another heat exchanger and we called a claim in. American Home Shield called to ask me the name of a place that put in my heat exchanger. They contacted them to find out where they can get one and gave them the address and the phone number. Then they called me in about a week and told me that they were going to put in another heat exchanger. The people that came out were very nice. They did what they said they were gonna do. They took the heat exchanger out and then they came the next day and put another one in.

My biggest thing with American Home Shield is the people. Every time I call, they get the same thing wrong. Every time, they're consistent with it. They always have the repair going to the wrong property. There's always a representative that doesn't speak English or isn't fluent with English. There’s nothing wrong with not being their first language, but there are people that are not really good with the language. If you're frustrated because something's not working or something's broke, it is extremely challenging talking to someone who doesn't understand English.
As far as the contractors, there was one guy that just came today. He was awesome. He was cool and well-mannered. He had a mask. I also dealt with a representative from General Electric when they came to fix my washing machine, and it was horrific. First, he showed up late. He gave me a humungous window. With COVID, most people aren't working. I'm in the government so I'm not working a full time schedule. So, I need my money. So if I'm going to take off, I'd like it to be with the intent of I'm thinking off because I'm getting something accomplished. This fool showed up at the midnight hour, which was the very last minute.
When I called in, I knew what was wrong. But apparently I didn't know the trick. The trick is not to talk to the computer. There shouldn't be a trick when dealing with customers. Because I talked to the computer and it never asked me what was wrong. Even though I knew what was wrong, and I can articulate what was wrong. I was only forced to talk to a voice automated system where it didn't even ask me that question. Again, the representative couldn't speak. That was frustrating. Then they sent the guy to the wrong address. Then when they got that done, the guy showed up to my house just to look at it and say, “I ain't got the part.” I was like, "I could have helped you out with that before you showed up.”
Then it was explained to me, “That's the process. Next time, just speak to a representative.” I was like, “Okay. Well, that's good to know on the front end instead of the back end.” The other issue was he lied to his company and said he never showed up. Then I said, “No, he was here. And American Home Shield kind of played the middle position. I didn't send the contract over to my house. American Home Shield did. The guy was lying. I have a video record of him showing up at my door, knocking on and coming into my house. Otherwise, I just let somebody show up to my house in full uniform and work on my washing machine.
The guy said I missed the appointment, which was completely false. I really feel like these are people you send in to your customers. So if there's an integrity issue where they don't want to be honest, I still have the video of him knocking on my door and I was even asking, “Hey, you want me to email this to you?" He identified himself as GE and he came in my house. That was a scary feeling if he wasn't from General Electric, and he came in my house after giving all of that information to American Home Shield.
On a good day, I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield. On a bad day, I'm dissatisfied. Even though today worked out, I gotta take all things considered. The lady took my information. She verified my address twice. She got it. She can't screw this up. Then my tenant called me saying, “Hey, Ray. I got a guy here trying to fix my garbage disposal.” The lady couldn't give me a receipt for my refund. I paid for those two work orders. It was one for the garbage disposal and one for the cooktop range. I could, in theory, end up paying $400 for two service appointments instead of 200, which I should have been paying.

My dishwasher stopped working. I went online to submit the claim. I put in what my problem was and then waited for an email to tell me that a service company was chosen. Then they called and scheduled an appointment. The guy came on time and he was in here less than five minutes. With dishwashers, they send out someone to troubleshoot first. So the guy troubleshot the problem, found out that they needed to order a part, and they have to come back whenever the part comes in. I'm still waiting for the part to come in and for them to finish the process. Overall, everything has been pretty good with American Home Shield. I've only had two claims so far. The other claim was for my sump pump and it was very easy too. But there's still water sitting in there. It doesn't seem like the sump pump drained all the water out.

Somebody came out to repair my washer and they found out that it was non-repairable. They sent a request in to American Home Shield and told them it was non-repairable. I received an email from American Home Shield saying that, "We're apologizing. Your washer is broken. And please see the one we have set aside for you." We had to go click on and make sure that the dimensions and everything is right. If we wanted to go, we'd go to order now. That was what we did. I called J.B. Hunt because they're the one who was supposed to let me know when they were going to deliver my washer. But they said that they don't even have an order from Whirlpool yet. They said it usually takes 7 to 14 days. American Home Shield's claim process has been amazing so far. I'm very satisfied.

We had a toilet that was stopped up and American Home Shield sent out the repair guy to our house in less than 24 hours after I made the claim. The guy fixed it and left everything in perfect order. We didn't have any problems after that. He was wonderful, very knowledgeable and professional. He did a great job.

Climate Masters worked on my sewage and on my heat. They did a good job and I had no problem with them. All in all, I would refer AHS in a heartbeat. As a matter of fact, I have. I normally submit my claims with them over the phone and they'd ask me what was the problem. Then, they'd send someone out within a couple of days to take care of it.

The claims are simple, but if there's an issue with finding supplies or parts, American Home Shield has zero follow-through. The only reason I get any indication is 'cause the people that have been assigned have been communicating. My AC was bad and it took close to a month for us to get an AC. It was nobody's problem other than the supply line was backed up for new ACs, but Lundy called me up every other day to keep me informed. They were very involved in making sure that it got done. By far, it was incredible customer service. They replaced my AC and the guy did a fantastic job as well.
On the other hand, I got a pool heater issue that's been going on since August and I still don't have it resolved. The only time I get anything is when I call and I have to get nasty. I'm sitting right now waiting for this pool heater, and the supplier is saying that it's not approved. I called American Home Shield last Thursday and they said, "Yes, it is approved." I told them to call the supplier and get this resolved, but I still don't have an answer back from anyone. It should be approved. The only reason I bought the home warranty was to make sure that the pool heater was covered.
I also know all about call centers 'cause my wife is an executive director of a huge call center, but I'm not sure where American Home Shield's call center is. I'm not that guy that's prejudiced. I hope they use whoever is best and costs most reasonably, but it's difficult at times to communicate with the call center. 75% of the time, the accent is so strong that I can't complete the call. They are extremely difficult to understand that I have to call back and get somebody else. I travel the world, so I'm familiar with accents from all over.
It sounds like I'm not satisfied, but overall, I'm satisfied with the service. If the thing is broken, there's never a question. They replace it. My $4,000 air conditioner unit broke in my house and they replaced it. No questions asked. It took a month, but not because of anything other than supply. That's a very positive thing for American Home Shield. They do a good job when it comes to that. At my wife's house, she had a dishwasher that be couldn't fixed and they replaced it. I'm satisfied that way.
