I called American Home Shield on Sunday when I noticed an issue, and a technician was out on Tuesday morning. It was the freezer and he said that, normally, if the freezer isn't working properly, the refrigerator won't work properly either 'cause they go hand in hand. I lost some food but he was able to fix it. However, I did have an experience with AHS that wasn't so great. It was my air conditioner. They were offering some type of special to have your stuff checked and that didn't go so well because they charged me money. It was miscommunicated all the way around. The money was taken from my account but the service wasn't done. They did correct it but I wanted the $125 back.
The cost of having to pay one fee versus several fees is good but I did ask American Home Shield to send a copy of what's covered. I know stuff is online, but I told them I have to read it in paper because there were some hidden things on that. I wasn't aware that it will be another charge based on what needed to be done to bring the AC up to code. Also, I was told one price but it ended up being another.

The contractor was good with getting out here for the refrigerator. This is about the sixth time that I had my refrigerator worked on and this is working good so far. I was off and on with American Home Shield two or three times and the only big difference for me was it used to be $40 fee for each claim but it's over $100 now.

Every time I submit a request, it's always other. I'm very limited in my choices. I wish American Home Shield could improve the number of scenarios because when I do other, they have to call and ask what's going on. Other than that, when the shower stopped working, the tech went above and beyond to figure out what the problem was. He communicated effectively when he could come back and what the next steps were, as well as the agent at their location. She also followed up with a phone call. And then, he came back right when he said he would come, on time, and gave us some advice on what to do going forward. I had a contractor come out from an electrical company and they were great. I had secured some additional work from them. And then, the plumbing company that has come out two other times.

My air conditioner was going out. I thought that we would be having the need to get some coolant in there because it wasn't keeping up with the cold or the heat. It would get up to 79 degrees and more even with the air conditioner going. I called American Shield and the guy came out and said it was low. I ended up calling the ones that Old Republic had because it was obvious that I was going to have a new air conditioner and that happened before I got American Home Shield. Old Republic would be replacing my air conditioner. They're putting in a new furnace and because I didn't have platinum, I had to pay $1,400. Overall, American Home Shield was really good about sending somebody out when I called.

Recently, we had a bad pump on our dishwasher. We put in hardwood floors, and the repair man couldn't even pull out the dishwasher to replace the part. He had to MacGyver his way in there and he wasn't happy about it. He kept grumbling quietly to himself, but he got in there and fixed it. It’s been working great ever since. For what it's worth, it was an absolute pain in the butt for him to get in there and I would have grumbled even more than he did. If it wasn't for the repair man, we would have been buying a new one and I don't think it would have fixed the issue. I also don't know how we're getting another one in there without ripping the cabinets off, so he did us a double favor.

I called back Thursday ‘cause it rained again and my drain plugged again. They told me that it was within 30 days and they would call the plumber out again. So, I called him, told him what was going on. He said he would get here by Thursday. Today's Thursday and I've left him a voicemail. But he hasn't responded back to me. Spike is a great guy. He comes into work and buys parts all the time. I just wish he will get back to me on this matter so I can get it resolved.
The first time I called him 'cause he hadn't responded back again, he came right over. He was right in the area. This time, I'm gonna call him again on the way home and see what goes on. If not, then I'm gonna give AHS a callback and tell them I need a plumber ASAP 'cause I've waited the whole week for this drain to get unplugged.
I love the contractors of AHS. Perkins Plumbing does great. However, I would not recommend Freedom Plumbing who AHS called out first, 'cause that guy just messed up a bunch of stuff. I also would like to see AHS partner with more 24-hour customer service plumbers, 'cause there are things that need emergency plumbers and they don't cover that.

The claims process with American Home Shield was good but I had told them I didn't want this one company to ever come to me again, and they had referred me to them again. So, I had to call up and talk to somebody, and it was hard getting through to somebody, but then I did. The girl was really nice and got me somebody else, and those people were really good. They were able to resolve my problem, but I didn't get any paperwork of what they did. I've been wanting to get the paperwork for it.

I had a claim where my upstairs AC stopped working and Sirius Plumbing came. I paid close to $1,000 for it as it was not covered and they changed a few things and fixed it. I had another claim for the light issues in my master bed, in my living room, in my master closet. The electrician came in and just looked at everything, but then did nothing. He said that he doesn't buy lights. I got to do it myself and then he'll come and fix it. I'm on the Platinum thing and I didn't know that I was supposed to buy everything.

American Home Shield has been a great disappointment. They sent out two different groups when our compressor on our central air died. The first group came in and said that they recommend replacing the compressor, and they were willing to do it. The next thing you know, another person was sent out. They said that originally, the air conditioning unit was installed incorrectly and the claim was then denied. I called and asked for more explanation but got the runaround. I replaced the whole system myself because it was 100 degrees and I needed to get my family cold again.
I've had other claims that they've come and done work on. Overall, the contractors that they tend to send are subpar in nature. 9 times out of 10, it takes multiple visits to get something done. Every time my dishwasher would break, I would tell them exactly what part because it's always the same part that breaks. A guy shows up without the part then two weeks later, he comes back with the part. I'm now without a dishwasher for three weeks. One time, I couldn't deal with it so I had called up a guy. He showed up, had the part in his hand and installed it. I'm ready to cancel American Home Shield.

The claims process is very simple. I liked that I don't have to really talk to anybody. I can do everything online. As soon as I filed a claim, within 15 minutes, they sent me an email letting me know who they've contacted to come out. Sometimes, I have to call the company because they don't call me right away. But as far as them getting somebody to fix the problem, they're right on top of that. I've been very pleased since I switched to Home Shield. You get what you pay for. I pay Home Shield $30 more a month and even when people come out, I pay more for each service. But I’ve been very happy with it.

I've had a little bit of trouble with the electrical out on my patio. There was a crack in the wire covering and the tech taped it up, and it's working fine now. Several years ago, we had a problem getting through to American Home Shield but they were overwhelmed. But now, you can go online and things are going much faster. I wish they could broaden the field of who comes to your house. I have my air conditioner serviced by another company that doesn't do American Home Shield work probably because they don't want to take a cut in payment or maybe they charge more than what American Home Shield wants to pay. I understand that. If I need to have something fixed, I got to go through American Home Shield to have someone come out and look at it.
I made a mistake one time and went ahead and had an air conditioner fixed, and then it turned out that I had to report it first. I didn't realize that, and I was out $2,000. But that was my fault because I didn’t talk to them first before I had the repair done. I recommend them to people all the time. They're pretty prompt in sending somebody out. I've never had to wait very long to have somebody come out, and stuff does get fixed. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied.

American Home Shield's service has deteriorated. The people that they send out are not very good. They aren't very professional. So, it's not really fixing my problem, it's just delaying a problem until it becomes a bigger problem. Those who have repaired items in my house have not fixed them the right way. I've had plumbing fixtures that needed hundreds of dollars in re-installations after their people come. Also, their service is horrible over the phone. Their wait times are very long. I have a claim in right now for a water heater and they sent a person who was obviously drunk or high. These are the people that American Home Shield is sending out, the people that nobody else will employ.
Techs fixed plumbing inside my house for a hot water heater previously. Their work leaked, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. It was the same company that AHS sent back. We're contemplating stopping the service with them because, for 10 years, we enjoyed it. But now, it's not very good. I don't know why you would pay for this. It might even be cheaper for me just to replace the items instead of using an insurance company like AHS.

My sprinkler system is something American Home Shield's service doesn't cover. Water issue so many feet out from the house is not covered. I had to pay for that. Almost every summer I found a leak somewhere. My system is getting old. And the last two times cost me $400 each time. Also, some years I paid more premiums than I get in service, and other years I came out even. But someday when the appliance completely breaks down, it will be worth it.
I wish AHS would do more maintenance type things for me because I still have to pay to have someone out for my air conditioner. Every spring I'm supposed to have it serviced and clean. I just did that, paid another service two months before the air conditioner broke last year. I wish I could just call that company and be sure they would come and take care of that. It would be nice to be consistent if I get a company that I like to always be the one that provides such service.
The line in the back of the toilet was aged and broken. I had a geyser in my bathroom that just before I could get the water turned off, I had an inch of water in my bathroom and I was soaked. I liked the contractor very much. It happened on a Friday. So they couldn't come until Monday. But they were on time, very professional, and fixed it in a hurry.

I wasn't happy on a couple of occasions that I had to use American Home Shield. When my kitchen faucet went out, they only wanted to give me 25 bucks for a faucet. The service guy was getting paid 70. I ended up buying a better faucet than what the home warranty was going to give me. That aside, my claim this time was actually really nice and I was really pleased.
I was happy American Home Shield got somebody out the day after I called. They couldn't get hold of anybody the night I called and they told me that if I didn't hear anything, I was to call the next morning. I did and the girl I talked with was very nice and she helped me that Sunday. A guy came out that Sunday and they got things working. I got stuff taken care of. I don’t like it hot and I was happy I have air. The guy told me that the missing parts weren't covered by my home warranty and I understood that. I'm going to have him take care of that issue. But I first need to get rid of the mold issue that was caused by the leaking water.
I had a water heater issue a few years ago and technicians came out and took care of that right away. Although it wasn't like the commercial where it was within hours of my call, it was a day or two later. That was okay. We worked around it. I stayed with American Home Shield but I thought about looking around last year. Consumers should look at the price as well as what you get for your copay or deductible. Those are important things.

The tech fixed the washer on his first visit. But I noticed afterwards that I could barely wash. The main thing that I noticed when my washer wasn't working right is the towels wouldn't get dry. When they spin, they were still really wet. So, it took a lot on my dryer. When I got back home a couple days later, the dryer wasn't working. It worked enough until the new dryer came. But my clothes weren't spinning. It wouldn't transition to the next cycle. It would wash and when it rests, I would get an error. So, I have to try to do a spin cycle. But I don't blame American Home Shield for what happened to my dryer because I was putting wet clothes in there and it didn’t start acting up until after I bought the new dryer. So all of it was resolved. I got money back for the washer and I bought a new dryer. I'm very happy with it. When the AC acted up, American Home Shield offered help with it, so I'm happy with that.

Ron is the top guy that AHS sends out that does a lot of work. He's always working late overtime. I had trouble in my utility room where the hot water is and Ron ran to the store, got the part and fixed it. Some time ago, I had electrical problems in my living room and Ron came with the guy. That guy fixed some light fixtures in my house and a ceiling fan. He didn't do the job right. The blade was shaking. He also fixed an outlet in my living room. When he saw that outlet and how it was old and how the wiring was old, he should have done all of the outlets in the room. But he replaced just that one.
So now, I'm on an extension cord from the good outlet that he did. I need to call him again but that's gonna be another $100. Other than that, I've always gotten Ron and he is solid. He's very professional and nice. I've had to call if it's not Ron who comes. The other tech could never replace something that should have been replaced and I’m hurt about that. Ron has to come behind them and clean up the mistakes that they make when they send someone else.
Also, AHS changes out stuff too fast. They should just take more time to try to fix things. I'm wondering if I even want to just change from AHS and go with someone else. Because I gotta call and pay another $100 to get this problem fixed in the living room. I've probably paid 300 when some of the problems could have been fixed the first time. With AHS, it takes too long to get anyone. When I gotta keep calling and the techs are so far out and they're so busy, it's hard to get something soon. That's what makes me not call them too - that and not knowing if I'm gonna get Ron.

We bought the house in ‘17. We moved in, and immediately, the AC heating unit went out. So, we got American Home Shield right there. It paid for itself. But we've had several other incidents after that. One company in particular, if I could give them a negative star rating, I would. Recently, we had a plumbing issue. My wife was telling me that the garbage disposal was going out and it was making some funny noise. So I called, set up the appointment and a guy came over. I usually try not to watch people because I'm not an expert at their job, so I figured that they should be able to do it. But don't try to play me like I'm dumb either. That's what he tried to do. I work from home so I was working on my computer and I was not that far from the kitchen. He brought this penny in that was folded up like a taco, but the ends met. He said he got this out of the garbage disposal.
I was like, “How'd you get that out? You didn't open anything up. If you got it out of the top, it would have been chewed up and not folded.” He said, “Well, I'm gonna call American Home Shield, see if they're going to approve this.” I don't know if he did or not, but he called me back saying that he left a message. I didn't answer the phone. I was away from my phone. He said that AHS didn't approve it. So, he tried to get me a $300 garbage disposal. They were gonna put it in. I was like, “No.” That penny threw me off.
So, I called Home Shield. They said, “We're gonna send another company. You don’t have to pay for it.” That was when Mounts Plumbing came out. They were excellent. All it was was that the shaft was frozen. The guy gave me a wrench. He said, “Next time this happens, just move it until it comes free and then just keep working it and it should be fine.” I've been promoting American Home Shield. I've been like, “Hey, they fixed everything that was broken so far.” I still recommend them because they're not beholden to what somebody else does.

The dishwasher wasn’t draining. The contractor did diagnostics using the virtual tool. The technician asked me to do a bunch of checks through their system. Based on that, the guy gave their conclusion that the pump that drains the water from the machine on to the sewer system wasn't working. So, they ordered the part. It was delivered within a couple of days. The only issue that I had was the actual scheduling of the technician took 10 days, during which my wife and I were dishwashers. Apart from that, it was seamless. The guy came in. He knew what he was doing. He was respectful of my floors as to not to scratch them, because I did them recently. The tech said the blower motor was going out. They replaced that, and everything was fine. The inside just happened recently. That was leaking. There was a clog in the pipe and the tech had to blow it out. He walked me through the scale that was built up in the pipe that has to get cleared out every couple of years. The same gentleman came out for both problems. He was super helpful.

Our AC was blowing out hot air, and it froze over on us. We submitted a claim on Thursday, and the repair company came out that Friday afternoon. The tech came in, looked at the unit, went outside and looked at the outside unit. He ran his test, said, “You guys are low on Freon,” and did that. He was here less than 20 minutes. Overall, there is comfort in having a home warranty and you know that you have a second option as to when major appliances break down. You can call someone to come in and fix it, and it's not going to be a major cost when you call to have someone come out to service or look at your appliance or whatever is going on in your home. On top of that, it's a low monthly payment that we pay that's affordable. I have been trying to refer American Home Shield to everybody that I know, that are homeowners, because it's something that's good to have.

Recently, a plumber came out for a leaking toilet and it turned out that there was a crack in the toilet so I got a whole new toilet. Also, I had a clog in the drain and they fixed that. I also had an oven that wasn't working and it turned out that it was so old that American Home Shield replaced it. It wasn't worth it to do the parts.
I'm still waiting for the oven to be installed, but it takes a while to get it. The contractor came out on Monday but the hole for the oven wasn't the right size and they don't do modifications. I had somebody come and do the modifications. Having American Home Shield replace my oven was more than paid for by the monthly. I was thinking about not paying for the coverage anymore because it's so much per month but one visit like that pays for a year of payments so it's well worth it. My only complaint with American Home Shield is when I call, I spend an average of 45 minutes per phone call. The phone time is really cumbersome. Most of it is waiting. But when the reps are on the line, they're really helpful.

The contractors that AHS sends over are good and so far, no problems. We had another service like them and that service found every opportunity to say no. AHS doesn’t do that. There’s the small type in the contract of what they cover and don’t cover. It’s just taking a little while on some things to get things taken care of. But I can understand when they tell me that this is the timeline. The timeline never changes and it's always an 8-hour timespan.
I’ve been waiting to get my vent hood fixed. They found something wrong electrically with it and they’ve ordered that part. They’ve ordered another part that another appliance company came to look at and they found another thing wrong with it. It would be nice to have a vent hood with lights. It’s been a year already and it’s one thing happened after another. Eventually, it will get fixed.

American Home Shield has already sent two vendors for my air conditioner problem. The first one was able to tell me that there's something wrong with the compressor. The second one told me that it's not fixable. I called and asked what the solution was going to be for my issue and last Monday, AHS was gonna send another vendor which is coming on Friday. The vendors should disclose if my issue is fixable and report that to American Home Shield.
This is why I'm kind of frustrated. I called American Home Shield, and they said that that's all the information they have. They're not offering me a new unit and they're still diagnosing it. From the two vendors, I don't know what they've decided. I'm disappointed with what's going on but I'll wait for what the third vendor is gonna say. If they say my unit needs to be replaced or if it's fixable, it's fine with me.
Other than this, I'm happy that some of my claims have been taken care of. Even so, AHS should be more diligent with handling claims. They're supposed to follow-up on the vendors on their end because it's really frustrating customers. It's a waste of money that they've been sending all these vendors and paying them but they're not doing the work. For them to send different vendors and not get an answer is creating frustration on my part because the job needs to be done right away but it's taking a long time.

Recently, I enjoyed American Home Shield's service but before that, I was very frustrated with the difficulty to reach a human being to talk to. In order to reach somebody, I have to speak to somebody in the Philippines. They don't understand English, and I can't get through to them. But in the interim, I had somebody that came and fixed my appliances, and it's all right now. He did a very good job and he left the place clean. Overall, the contractors that American Home Shield sends do a good job, but the company itself changed how they do business. They run a crappy business.

The technician came and checked out all my equipment but he wasn't able to diagnose the problem saying that wasn't his department. I had to get another pool contractor to come out and diagnose the problem. The guy checked my filter pump and my variable speed pump. I have something clogged in the Venturi of my pool towards the depths of the spa. He said he would have the little pipes in the jets screw out and blow some CO2 through it, and that usually solves the problem. I didn't put it in another order through American Home Shield 'cause I didn't think it was covered. I just paid for it out of my own pocket. But last year, I had a problem with my pool heater, and one of the contractors came out and took pictures of it and they okayed for it to be replaced, and it was great. I just had to pay a little extra for the installation, but other than that, I had very good service.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.

We wanted to get the AC unit checked out and the technician who came was amazing. He did a great job. He said everything was shooting nice and good. It was also when the bad weather came in and it was 71 degrees outside. He said even if it's not, it should be cooling good and if we have any issues, to give him a call and he'll come back out again. The warranty is well worth it. If you got to pay $800 a year, at least you got peace of mind in case something goes wrong.

Appliance 911 sent out Bobby and he has been great. He is an excellent source of technical expertise. He found a number of different issues with my appliances and got them ordered and replaced. Everything seemed to be great. I was super happy. They needed to replace the motor to the icemaker in my freezer. They did a great job with that. They replaced the motor to my microwave oven, which needed to be replaced since it wasn't working. So that was a great job as well. They replaced the lining to the freezer door. It's working great. They also took the upstairs washer and looked at it. They saw there was a problem with the shock absorbers, which needed to be replaced. He got the parts and now it no longer rattles throughout the house when I'm on the spin cycle. All four of those parts were very sorely needed and very much appreciated. Bobby was Johnny-on-the-spot and very fast with all those four pieces.
Last week, I called Bobby and said that the water is still under the refrigerator. He said, "Did you follow the instructions to do the 24-hour defrost?" I hadn't done it to that extent. I defrosted it a little bit, but not the whole 24-hour cycle. So I agreed to do the instructions that he was giving me. But when I did the instructions, I saw there was no change in the water. I have been calling Appliance 911 three times in the past three days to try to get somebody back out here and left messages. But I haven't heard back. I would like to get some kind of a resolution on this water that it continues to be a slip hazard.
As for American Home Shield, if I am going to be told that something is closed, I'd like to be aware of it rather than being surprised by it, like I was with the HVAC system issue with 210 Granite Mist. When I followed up for over an hour last week in trying to get some service done there, and being told one thing and then learning something else about, they said, "Oh, yeah. We got a call saying the coil was going to be replaced." But then they said, "No, actually the contractor never said that. The contractor, in fact, just recommended a cleaning." When I get those kinds of misunderstandings, I get less satisfied.
I'm extremely dissatisfied with American Home Shield. A lot of times, I'm surprised in a not so good way that things are not covered. Because I am under the impression something is going to be happening, and then it gets misinterpreted. I even have a specific recording of a phone call I made that lasted over 40 minutes, where I've been advised that they were going to replace the evaporation coil for the HVAC. I told them to send it to me in an email and put it in writing. But they didn't do that. So I'm paying out of pocket $425 for something I thought was going to get replaced and covered by American Home Shield. It was not the first time that this happened.

I wanted the plumbing, electrical, and the AC unit, which was exactly what I got for an unbelievable rate. It's working for me. I love it. I had two requests and they were able to fix both of the problems. The AC went out and when the contractor came out, they fixed it. Then I had a claim for the tub. It was stopped up. I called American Home Shield back and they got somebody else right away. That company went right and fixed it. That could have got expensive. American Home Shield replaced the microwave and on the 25th, they're gonna replace my refrigerator. The tech did an outstanding job. I wish all the appliance people were like him. He knew his business. He gave a time and a schedule and he was here. He did the work himself. If you have a problem, you call him up and he comes right back to recheck it. He would fix it if something went wrong. Mainly, he was close to the house, too, which was good, but I didn't know him until he was sent here the first time. He's been here a couple of times to fix the refrigerator and finally, he said that it couldn’t be fixed. So, now, AHS is going to replace it.
I used AHS for electrical, too. I called them and they sent a guy out who was able to fix it right then. I haven't had a problem since so, they sent the right person. Sometimes American Home Shield will assign somebody, but then the person would say they couldn’t do the work. So, you have to call them back and they have to reassign. But that's not on them as much as it is on the technician that says they do this work and then they find out they don't do that part of the work. On the refrigerator, the guy called and told me he was coming out. I told him what the problem was and he said that they do refrigeration work but they don't do that part, which is seal work. AHS sent out Brooks Appliance and it was fixed. It worked for about six months and then, the refrigerator had something else go wrong. It was an LG so, I told AHS that if they were giving me a replacement, I do not want an LG.

So we had to call them back out and then they found that when they did the repair the first time, they pinched the wire and it shorted out and it tripped the breaker. So they had to fix the wiring. It was a five-minute fix for the tech. But I wish the service with AHS was a little bit quicker. The contractor was pretty quick to come out the first time. I then got an email and a text saying that a contractor has been assigned to my claim and that they would be contacting me within 24 or 48 hours to set an appointment.
Tempal was a good company. The first time they came, my drain lines were clogged. They came back out a second time because once they fixed the leak, then the air conditioner was not cooling like it should. The repair man checked the charge on the air conditioner and it needed to be charged, so he charged it. Now, it's been working fine. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He was very timely in taking care of everything and any questions I have had, he answered honestly and directly.

All three that I used promptly called me back saying that I submitted the claim. It has been crazy because we're in the middle of the fires. Most of the vendors were evacuated, so it was not done a typical process.
The garbage disposal was jammed. The tech that came showed me how to fix it so if that happens again, I could probably fix it myself, which I was very impressed with. Because usually, they want to make more money. He was friendly, helpful and timely. I called in as I was trying to submit two claims at once, but the representative told me that I was unable to do that because they were in two different categories so I wasn't aware of that. I was having an issue with my garbage disposal working. Initially, 2020 Plumbing was supposed to come out later in the day but they arrived earlier around 2:30 and fixed it even though I told the person from the company that I was not available. They also offered suggestions to keep up the maintenance of the product. I've taken that into account and have had no concerns since.
Previously, I had an AC unit claim. It was 90-plus degrees and it took the contractor about a week to come out. They thought it was just one part, the part was not functional, and so they recommended to replace the whole unit. That took four weeks without air and I have small children at home. Just recently, I logged a request for my refrigerator. The contractor reached out to me and confirmed the date. But then they did a no call, no show, and I didn't find out till Sunday. The communication, the promptness, and the turnaround times with the contractors could be a little bit better. But then paying a small portion of what an actual repair may cost is the good part of the program. Things happened and so I'm thankful that I have it.

The techs came out for my cooktop. At first, they changed it and they broke it when they ordered the part. But it was an accidental break. They also weren't sufficient in giving me feedback about the problem and it took months for them to get back to American Home Shield. The communication between me and American Home Shield took forever but even during that difficult time with the repair guy, American Home Shield was very supportive. They made multiple calls to them to reach out to get the information they needed to proceed with the process of repair or replacement. But they were unfortunate. That time was around the holidays, so I don't want to condemn them too much. It was also during COVID and our whole environment was chaotic.
Other than that, it's very comforting to have American Home Shield. I've had other home warranties before I got back with American Home Shield and I've had nightmares through and through. I got stuck in a contract for five years with another company and it was not what it was set to be, like American Home Shield. Unfortunately, my appliances all went out at the same time and I was without my double-oven due to COVID and other circumstances. But it was a load off knowing that American Home Shield took care of the estimate, the pricing, and the replacement for me. And although you don't get the 100% reimbursement and you pay the difference, it's really on your budget than having to pay out-of-pocket for a new appliance that had to be replaced. The customer service is amazing, too. They're very patient with you on the phone and they try to get you the answers in that phone call. If they didn't, they called you back.

My complaint has been the same thing, that the AC is not cooling, but I had to pay the copay twice. We've placed our fourth call with American Home Shield in two months regarding our unit. But I understand the process, that they have to eliminate everything before they can determine if the unit needs to be replaced. Every time, what happens is the temperature is not cooling. It has been three different companies.
The first time they came out, which we paid the deductible, the tech said he thought it was the motor. They replaced that, but then he said that motor locked up. He had to order another one, and placed that one in. It worked for probably a week before it was not cooling again. When the next rep came out, he added Freon and ran a couple of tests. He called someone else in from his company and they decided that it may be the electric board. When he left, it was working but I had to call them six hours later.
I had to pay the copay again because some time had passed, even though it was the same reason. A rep came out the other day. He replaced some little round thing that connected the board to the air conditioning unit. He was in the process of leaving, saying that everything was fine but before he could get in his vehicle, he said the whole electrical panel went out. I've had the service a long time and I've had good results. The only thing is that down in Texas, it gets hot, especially during the summer, and that's normally the time you try to get somebody to come serve the air conditioner. But sometimes there's a long wait period for somebody to come out.

The tech did an excellent job. He was very professional, personal and he took time to explain what he was going to do prior to installing the water heater. He explained after he finished how the appliance functions and walked through the guarantees. He left his phone number and card. I was very pleased. Sometimes it's a long wait to get through to American Home Shield and I may be on hold for 40 minutes which is problematic. Sometimes the person that I'm speaking to, their English is not the easiest to understand. But everyone has been courteous. I've been able to call time of day and eventually someone responds. I have been overall satisfied with American Home Shield. I've had other issues that took longer but they were very timely and efficient for the most part each time I've needed an intervention.

I was going to cancel American Home Shield's service this year because it seemed to me like all I was doing was calling a plumber and I was then paying another $100 for him to be here. The price went up, too. I went ahead and kept it this year, but I will certainly look at it next year, especially if the price goes up again because I'm paying 60-some dollars a month, and I can certainly pay a plumber to come to do what they did. So, I am thinking whether it's worth it or not. The people that they have are very good. They come on time. They do what they're supposed to do. It's just the cost is getting to me. I recently had the AC worked on. They had to replace the thermostat. It was an excellent company. I had to pay to stay at a motel for two nights because I have a heart condition and I can't stay in a un-air-conditioned place. So, paying for a motel and then paying the tech and paying AHS adds up.

Usually, we've had to leave the phone off and wait 40 minutes before they would get to us, but that doesn't seem to be happening to me like it used to, so that's good. American Home Shield is good to have. I used it when my glass front door blew up. I got a service person out and the problem was addressed okay. I used my home warranty service mostly for my plumbing problems and I didn't care for many of the plumbers. Other than that, the contractors are okay. People considering a warranty service should know that they have to pay the fee upfront whether they like the company or not. You pay the $75 first before American Home Shield dispatches anyone. For reimbursements, you have to buy your appliance first then they would reimburse you. I was surprised about that. I have a claim where I had the choice to pick from the ones that American Home Shield had chosen or I could pick my own. I wanted to pick out my own. I'm just trying to get some money together to purchase the item.

He had the air conditioner up and running in less than 40 minutes. I also had a claim for the refrigerator. Samsung refrigerators are the absolute worst and they're supposedly the unfixable refrigerator. But the technician that came out fixed our refrigerator and he knew what he was doing. I had my AC worked on. Last April or May, the guy came out and poured Clorox in the thing. He said it was clogged up and it worked fine. Then three weeks ago, it would never get down to under 82 degrees in my house and the AC just stayed constantly on. I called AHS and they took the $100 deductible from my checking account. A week later, the tech came out. He told me he had to do this and this, it was $278, and AHS wouldn't cover it. Well, I needed my air conditioner so I paid him that. Then he said that the unit would eventually go out. I told him that since it would be like that, he should just fix it instead of me having to call back when it goes out. I tried to call AHS yesterday to find out what was going on as I ended up paying more money and they explained things to me. People should go with American Home Shield because they're very polite and I enjoy talking to them.

He said there was this flap that was up when it shouldn't have been up. We didn't know that since the last unit we had had a switch on it that said on or off. I didn't hit the flap or do anything with that. The guy flipped the flap and now, we're getting plenty of ice.
Having a home warranty is good. We had new air conditioners put in and our installer told us that American Home Shield would give us a rebate because we have brand new units that are very efficient. They were covered by our warranty. He filled out all the paperwork and assured us we would get the rebate. He added that he works with American Home Shield all the time. That was in April. We called American Home Shield and they didn't know anything about the matter. That was a concern for us because we figured that into the price of the air conditioners. We were talking about $1,300 so it was a lot of money.

We've had several people come out a couple of times with the same company. We had a claim on our swimming pool because it wasn't heating. It wasn't getting any heat to it at all and it wasn't catching on the flame. It looked like something was wrong with the heater system itself. The dials would not connect and change over. The tech said it wasn't giving it the power from the flames. He looked in and said it looked like something was burnt in it. It was an older model too.
We called in our claim to American Home Shield like we usually do. The claim was about the pump that wasn't working, but the tech from Clearwater found out it wasn't a pump. It was a gauge, the remote on the pool, and then we called again. When he came out, he found out also that the heater was broke. It was burnt up. So, he showed us everything that was wrong. We had to put another claim in for the heater. So, Home Shield sent Barry at Arctic Blue out and they came out and fixed that.
The guy that came out with Clearwater was very thorough. He explained stuff and even showed us how to do the handheld equipment better than we had learned before from the previous people that showed us. He was very respectful. He said he'll just put in the information and paperwork about what his claims were and what he saw was wrong, and then we'd have to hear something later from Home Shield. Overall, it's great to have the security that we do have with Home Shield because the price of trying to buy new stuff could be overwhelming. So, by keeping up this insurance, it helps us feel a little bit safer about our home and protecting it.

I'm enjoying American Home Shield’s service right now. At one time, I wasn’t. But now, they have been living up to their agreement with me. We had some problems in the past. I had a plumbing problem where a pipe busted my wall, and they were aware of it. They tried to get someone to come in, but they could not get anyone. So, they asked me if I could find a plumber and they will reimburse me for it. I found the plumber who fixed the problem. But American Home Shield refused to pay me because they said I did not follow instructions, which I never heard. The instructions they gave me was to call them before I let the plumber fix the problem and let them know what it was and what it was gonna cost to fix it. I never heard that part of the conversation. So, they did not pay me for $400 worth of damage done to us.
I was expecting to get reimbursed but that never happened. I paid $75 out-of-pocket, which would’ve been my deductible, for the plumber to come. Then I had to pay the bill. I got kind of hostile and mad about that because I didn't get my money back. But they convinced me to try them again, and I did. I had an incident where my air conditioner went out of my house. I paid the $75 for the air conditioner man to come, then they had to replace the air conditioning unit. I had to pay $495, which was a lot less than paying the $4,000 and some to fix the problem. So right now, I'm happier. A-US was superb.
If people ask about American Home Shield, I will say, “Make sure you follow the instructions, but they are worth paying for.” As far as submitting a claim, I usually just call and tell them what the problem is. Then they tell me who the company is that’s coming in. They give me a phone number. If I want to call them, I can call them myself. They generally call them and let them know that there's a claim with that address. It’s good system.
That's exactly what we like to hear. We are happy to know that AHS is beneficial to you. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have great week.

The water heater in our rental house went out on a Saturday night. Pruitt's Plumbing showed up on Sunday afternoon and pulled it because the bladder inside was busted. We had to wait for American Home Shield to approve it, which was supposedly 24 hours. I got an email on Tuesday that the water heater was approved. However, they didn't have technicians available till Friday to install. Then they told us we had to pay $425 to make the water heater installation to code. I'm a general contractor so I get it, but then it's wrong because American Home Shield or the plumber should have that in their bid. In the City of Phoenix, you have to change the water line and the gas line, which I get the gas line, but the water line I would never change. That should have been in American Home Shield's price. But then I paid the 425 as I need it to get done because it's been a week without hot water for my tenants.
The plumber showed up and said that we had to pay another $145 to replace a ball valve and an air chamber that's on top of the water heater. They told me last Tuesday that the 425 was for the water line, gas line, and the air chamber included. I then asked him why he cut the ball valve off. It will never go bad and will be the same as it is in 10 years or 100 years. He said that they always do that. I told him that I won't pay him $145 more and I needed the air chamber. He said he didn't bring one and so he couldn't install the water heater. I told him he could install that without the air chamber and then come back and install the air chamber later. He said that he would have to charge me a trip charge. I then went to Home Depot and bought an air chamber for $45 and brought it back to him.
The company called to tell us that we owe them $145. I told them to talk to American Home Shield. I'm not paying that for something that they are providing that I had to go buy and come out. I would never hire those guys again. They were shaking down old people because they were in their house and I had no choice but to get a hot water heater. I paid 575 bucks with the service call. I could have had my plumber go out and change the water heater for $700 on that Sunday and been done, not wait six days. But other than that, the heating guy fixed it, moved on, and didn't ask for extra money.
We also had a bad ice machine in the refrigerator and it took about three weeks for the contractor to fix it. But again, it was just an ice machine that the water line was clogged. It wasn't a big deal and the renters could always buy bagged ice. With the air conditioner claim, Above Par came out within a day and fixed the coil or the motor that was bad. The tech went out for his struck, got the parts, came in, fixed it, and was on his way.

American Home Shield's cost is affordable and even the service cost that I pay is great compared to what I will pay out of pocket if I didn't have it. They're a security blanket for me, I appreciate them, and I ain't gonna drop them or leave them. It's just that some of the people working for them don't really satisfy their customers.
But on my last claim, they let me know that they were reaching out to someone. They also emailed me back that they found someone. The people called me the same day and that was really fast. Then they came the next day and I never had that happen as it would normally take a few days. They have improved. I let other single moms know that it's good to have, even though they don't use it every month or what have you. When they use it, they have an assurance to know that they're going to get connected with someone that is professional. The person comes and if he can't fix it, he will replace it. I had that experience when an item broke. The company couldn't repair it and so they replaced it.

The furnace unit was flipped off, and we don't know how it happened, but we wouldn't even thought to look. All he did was flip it on and that helped us out.
It was a good turnaround. My husband did the claim online on the weekend when it wasn't normal office hours. We were told that Abby's was going to reach out to us. They reached out Monday morning and were able to come by 9:30. We've been really pleased with American Home Shield. We thought we might need it in February for our furnace. But we got it tuned up, and we were wondering if they would find something because it's old. They said, nope, it was good, so we didn't have to make a claim for that. I'm an agent Realtor and I've been using American Home Shield forever and ever. I've used them a couple times since I got mine on my personal house, and I have them on several properties. I really like sellers to try to get that when we list, just in case something goes wrong during the listing. It is also good for the buyers because that gives them some protection afterwards. I like that I can add the extra things to it like well, septic, or different things like that. I also like that the seller just pays the extra 75 when he gets a warranty for the buyer, and then if the buyer uses it during that time, it's only 75 to cancel.
What I don't like with Realtors is that they don't pay us any money like they used to. I spent a lot of time selling those because that was another selling point. But we don't get anything from the company. I used to make $45 every time that I sold one, but they don't do that here. They stopped doing it before I came here, which was about eight years ago, in Nashville.
I was the AHS Queen. Everything got a warranty. Then all of a sudden, they said they weren't gonna pay us anymore, but yet we needed to write down the serial number on this and do that. I told the man that owned the company he could forget it because I'm not working for that for nothing so I quit selling them. When I got back here to Florida and started working again, I just had to put it on the side because it's a good program. They have an agent that the company uses, but I'm not gonna send her business when I don’t get anything for it. I'll just call and arrange it myself. With my recent claim, Kasey's Appliance Service came out for our stove and I liked them. They were a great company.

The tech that came for the garbage disposal did a great job. He was fast, efficient, answered a question and was in and out. We also have a claim for the dryer, the microwave, and the freezer. The microwave is still in the process of being fixed, which has been almost a month and a half now. He fixed the freezer. With the dryer, I was trying to communicate with him that, "It's either overheating. But it turns off right when I start it, and then it's hard to turn back on." But the communication wasn't there. He was a little hard to understand. I don't think he understood what I was talking about. It was difficult talking to him. I know that the woman on dispatch said to give him a call and they have a translator, but that's really frustrating to have to deal with. He's been out at least four times for the microwave, and has taken different parts of it, and keeps coming out with the wrong part. It's frustrating on that front.
AVA Appliance Repair is not a company that I would want to work with again. It's the second time I've had to use that company with this. The appointments for them are weeks out. Every time they've come to fix the microwave, it's been two weeks before they can even come back to see if the part fits. Then it's another two weeks for them to schedule to come back out and see if the next part fits. If it doesn't, it's another two weeks to schedule out. They don't have any priority of people. They have been really horrible for the second time in a row. It was just really disappointing. Maybe AHS can reevaluate the contractors that they use for certain things, that would definitely be a reason why I would want to use AHS.

He thought ahead and brought the stuff that he was going to need to fix our air conditioner. He was prepared and he was done in 20 minutes. But when another guy came for our oven, he didn’t have all the parts needed so he had to come back three weeks later. It was more a frustration over him not doing a good job. He had to bring somebody else in because he had to pull the oven out. But for the most part with AHS, anytime that we needed service, it’s been pretty fast service. Everything that’s gotten fixed in our house has been fixed. Not just for a temporary fix, but it has been fixed to keep things going.

A couple of months ago, a young man came out from Sears for our refrigerator. It's a two-year-old Kenmore refrigerator and it was leaking. It started leaking again but I didn't even put a claim in for that. But American Home Shield's process is easier than heck. I can even go online if I want to. But I call them because I'm used to calling them. I stopped using them for one year when we first moved in here because the house already had a warranty. Then I went right back to AHS. The contractors are all great. AHS only really sends out the best. I've already referred them to my neighbors.

The experiences we've had with American Home Shield have been okay. But we only called them out for keys then we spent $75 for the initial call, and then we had to spend another $145 on top of that. Now we're calling them out again $75 for an air conditioner guy. We have an AC issue where the condensation is coming down into my attic. The guy said that the connector where the condensation goes back into the plumbing had come out, and he wasn't sure if it would stay there because it wasn't something he would fix, it was a plumber that would fix it. He said that it had cracked. It must have vibrated out again.
We need to call a plumber out. We haven't been running the air conditioner. If we don't fix it, then we're going to have another problem, which will probably be mold. We were trying to give it a chance in order for it to dry where the moisture had collected up in the attic. If the air conditioner goes out, then we'll just buy a new one. We're not going to spend the amount of money that American Home Shield wants in order to renew the contract. It's too expensive. It's not worth it to us. But then the two experiences that we've had with them were positive.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give American Home Shield about a 6. On my secondary house, I went with somebody else. American Home Shield tends to hire outside of the city areas so it's hard to schedule things when they're not very consistent about having local people. They sort of have people on their own list that they tend to call. They don't look at reviews unless it's their own reviews. But the most recent contractor that we had was really good. The ones prior to that were the ones that had been the real problems. They replaced our heater, damaged the walls, and never came back to fix the damage on the walls. I'm not real happy with the people that American Home Shield tends to hire.

The original claim was on the phone, and then I called in last Friday as soon as I got back. It was 97 degrees, and it was 92 inside my home. I turned on the AC and it did the exact same thing. So I called immediately and filed a new claim. American Home Shield said they would get back with the tech and have him come back out. The tech only did the work on my air conditioner less than a month ago. AHS was just going to call him back out because he has been in my house before. He has always done a good job. But it’s the exact same thing I told him about. He was there when I wasn’t. He called me when he was done with the work, and said all he had to do was change a battery in my room. I said, “You know, I don’t think that’s it. Because I could still turn the AC unit on with the remote, because it’s a wall unit. But you’ll have to stay there for at least a half hour because that's what happens, then it turns off and it won't come back on.”
He handled claims before there and he knows my building. He thought I didn't know what I was talking about when I said he has to let it run for a half hour. AHS assigned it to another contractor that called me yesterday and said they don't go to my building. I don’t know why they sent it to a new contractor because I’m not paying another deductible of $125. I don’t care who comes, because this is the third time this has happened now. There’s obviously something wrong, and it’s not a leak anymore. Almost right after I moved in, they found the leak and said they fixed it. It’s Freon, so it should last a long time. There’s another problem with the unit. But the contractors do good on the regular and are very professional. I recommended AHS a couple of times to people, including my family.

When my dryer wasn't getting hot, I went online to do the claim and I loved the website. It was great. American Home Shield then gave me the company name, and the day and timeframe they’d be there. Sears came out and they were good. The repair man said it was a switch. He happened to have it on his truck, and he fixed it, and it’s working fine. He was nice. Everything has been really good with American Home Shield. It's been super simple, and I've only had two issues, but they were super responsive on both. I also liked the contractor that they sent out to deal with the problems. I've been totally happy. I went from a one year and extended it for the next year.

I had a leak in the garbage disposal and it was determined that there was a big crack in it. A gentleman came and checked it out. He didn't have the horsepower that I had so they had to order it. We had someone out here within a day or two days of putting in the claim and within a week, everything was done.

The interior of the system seemed to be working fine but it was loud and rattling noise on the unit outside on the compressor. I put a claim online and the thing I don't like about the website is you're kind of limited on the reason for the claim because of the dropdown menu, and you have to pick from a certain list of things. AHS could allow you to be able to customize the reason more than just picking from a list though there's a box where you can add comments. But as far as using the website to file a claim, I kind of like it because you don't have to call and wait on hold.
I've had this warranty service before and I cancelled it because I wasn't happy with the customer service or the fact that when I filed a claim, they couldn't find me a contractor. They told me to call a repair company and they'd reimburse me but I didn't have time for all of that. I was paying them to send someone out but I had to do all the dirty work myself.
Now that I'm in a different state, I thought to see how it works here. Maybe the service has improved and this time, AHS has been pretty responsive. It could probably be helpful to add information about a contractor like customer ratings. But I'm assuming that AHS does their due diligence and that the contractors are good if AHS is using them. I've had a plumber, an electrician, and an HVAC contractor and they were all good. One thing that I'm not really happy with though is the $100 deductible. That's a lot especially when a contractor comes out and realizes it's really not that big of a deal of a problem. I'm already spending close to $600 a year for this service. When I had this the very first time, the deductible was $45 but it keeps going up.

We keep American Home Shield because it's a good safety net for big things. I recently had a plumbing issue that went very well. The guy that came out did a good job. One thing he did not do was there was a hole in the ceiling from the leak, and he was supposed to follow up and somebody was supposed to call and repair the drywall, and that didn't happen. My husband's been patching it himself.
One time in 2010, we came home and our water was not coming out properly when we took a shower. We called and it was our well pump. At first, they were saying, "Oh, well, you're only covered inside your foundation walls." Nobody has a well pump inside of their foundation walls. A well is away from your foundation. So, once somebody knowledgeable acknowledged that, they took care of it. We paid our deductible and that was a big expense.
You have to definitely be on your toes as far as somebody trying to get out of the claim. I ain't having that because I know better. My oven caught on fire one time. I keep my house clean, especially several years, I would clean myself. I know where my oven button is to clean it and it was kept clean all the time. The guy came out and immediately, he said, "Well, you didn't clean your oven." I said, "That's the marks from the fire in the oven." He just settled himself right down. All I had to say was, "That is from the fire, not from me not cleaning it." He did some more testing, and sure enough, it was the motherboard.
I didn't really like the way that claim was handled because they recognized it was our stove, it wasn't us. But they were going to send it out somewhere and we would be stoveless for quite a while waiting for somebody in another state to rebuild the part for six weeks. So, there are some things like that that I don't think works. So, I went out, took the credit, and bought a new stove.

We're on about our eighth call for our air conditioning unit. American Home Shield is going through each piece of equipment that they can possibly find an issue for. Now, they've worked on our electrical panel, but it's really not the issue. The problem is the condenser. But we've had to go through all of the process of them going through one thing after another. I understand it's a process. But I don't like it. It would be nice if they would just fix the condenser. We've had to live with this terrible heat and everybody's miserable. It's been a long, drawn-out process that started in June and we've had to put out a lot of money. As far as the air conditioner is concerned, American Home Shield is not a good company to deal with.
Each time that I've called American Home Shield, I've had some people that were very nice and I've had others that were not nice at all. About three times, I've had people that barely could speak English. It was irritating because you have to keep repeating. I asked where they were and the lady said, “In the Philippines.” I know companies do outsource customer service, but I wasn't happy with the outsourced customer service, for the most part. There were about three people that were really great and then the rest were kind of hard to deal with.

We just moved in and we didn't have the proper keys. Sending the service request to American Home Shield was pretty simple. Somebody called me to make sure that I had received some paperwork in the mail and then she did the appointment for me over the phone. But my experience was not ideal because I was not told how the rekey worked. I had not looked up what a rekey was. I assumed that when you move in, where you call a company that gives you new keys and that they would change the locks. But I didn't have a key to the front door because the seller didn't give it to us, we just had the keys for the garage door and the garage opener and the gates around the complex.
When the company that was going to do the rekeying was here, the tech told me that he needed the key to the front door. I told him that I didn’t have the key. So he said, “Well, then, I’ll have to charge you an additional $30 to do this whole lock here to match it to the one that you have going into the garage.” On the garage, there was a knob with a lock and one on top of the deadbolt. But unfortunately, I was also not given a key for that one. So it was a waste of money because I have three different keys now. The rekey was pretty much pointless. I ended up spending $110. If I would have known that's how rekeys work, I would have changed the locks myself and then, have them come and rekey everything by. So I’d have one key for everything.
American Home Shield should have the companies that they use be more thorough with explaining to the customer whatever services are gonna get done. Because if I would have known about the rekey, I would have definitely changed all the locks myself. Also, the company that came out sent me a message about a week before and asked how many were we rekeying. The message said, “Please respond with your name, address, and how many you want rekeyed and are they deadbolts or whatever.” So I texted back and put in the information. I tried calling that number because I needed to ask if they offered security doors for the front door, but it would always go straight to a voicemail.

The initial contractor called me and said they got a call from Home Shield and that they were gonna schedule me. I said no as I didn't even want them in my house at that point.
I had another claim and it was for my sink. A tech came right out and did what he had to do. He was very good and he cleaned up after himself. He was in and out. There was a third incident where Home Shield was supposed to have another plumber come out. I was gonna be charged $197. I called and I scheduled the service. The lady said the plumber had not put in the report and that they would call me back as soon as the report was in. I never got a call. I called them again but never got a response. I ended up calling another plumber on my own and paid him. Home Shield took my $100 just to leave saying, “Okay, this person does it.” I want my $100 back. I’m not enjoying Home Shield's service. I had an issue with my AC that on July 14th, a contractor came out for. They diagnosed the issue and submitted the claim. I then followed up with AHS to discuss options. They told me about the cash out option and they said the other option would be they replace the AC unit and I will pay for modification fees. Before we found out the detail about the cash option, I had to follow up with them for two weeks. When I called, they would always say that the cash out option people were on lunch or that they had left for the day. After two weeks, I found out that they would only offer me $1,816 for the cash out option so I denied that option and told them I was willing to pay for modification.
After that, when I called back and asked when the parts would arrive for the contractor to pick the unit up and replace it, no one gave me any details on that. I kept following up and calling back. Every time I call them, each American Home Shield agent told me different things. On the first call, they tried to push back the contractor and verify that I agreed with that option. The lady from that day was very rude to me and she successfully avoided my questions. I followed up the next time and the rep said I need to talk to the cash option people because the cash option was still on the table. It wasn’t confirmed that it was denied so the part orders were being held. It had been two weeks and I had followed up seven times. She got me off the phone and transferred to me the cash option department.
I spoke with Christie from that department and told her I was denying the cash out option and asked her to put that in the system. She said she did. On Wednesday, last week, I called back and the rep was really nice. He tried to be on the phone with me and tried to reach out to the purchase department. He told me that the same cash out option hadn't been put in the system and he had to do it on that day. After that, he tried to call the purchase department. I was on call for 2 hours and 45 minutes. Then, he has the estimated time for every call so I let him go. He apologized and he put in the notes for someone to reach me back. No one ever reached out to me. He emailed me last Friday and I called him back. He said he was working on it and he tried to contact the American Home Shield local office to try to figure out what's going on. It seemed like that the miscommunication was internal. This case has been going on for over a month at this point.

Initially, it took American Home Shield forever to get something going on wiith the dishwasher because of delay in parts. So we waited several months to try to get something done. But they finally figured out that they could go ahead and replace it, which was a good thing. I wish they had done that earlier. We put the request in back in March and it was before July that they ended up just saying they couldn't get the parts so they were just going to replace it. But once they decided they can replace it, things moved real quick. We got a thing on the email come in and we got a gift card for Lowe's. We're right now in the process of picking out a dishwasher at Lowe's and getting them to come and install it.
I had a previous claim for the washing machine and it went great. The guy determined it was going to cost more to fix it than to replace it. The only thing that I wasn't really happy about was the air conditioning unit is on top of our carport, and the vendor that Home Shield sent out required a crane to be rented. It would have been like thousands of dollars and that was not something that Home Shield would cover. I had a friend's uncle come out and they didn't need a crane. So, I felt like the vendor was trying to get over and just get extra money. I wasn't very happy with that. But American Home Shield cashed out and it was fine. I was able to get it taken care of.

Everything was good when Walston Mechanical came out for plumbing. They came out initially to fix the toilet. It was two toilets I put in for. They came out and once they left, one of the toilets started running or leaking. But it wasn't leaking on the outside. It was leaking inside the bowl. It just so happened to take place when I was out of town. The water company called and let me know that I had a 100-gallon an hour leak going on in my house.
So my father-in-law was in town. He has a key to my house. He went over there and found out that was what it was. It was one of the toilet bowls leaking. He just turned the faucet off. I initially called them. They told me I had to call AHS to let them know about it. So I called AHS and made them aware of it. For the most part, it was smooth. They got notified that I called AHS, and they came out and corrected the issue.

My refrigerator was leaking on the floor and messing it up. I called American Home Shield and the rep asked me what I needed. Then, she asked me to show her the refrigerator and give her a description of what was leaking. She did a thing called stream where she took a picture of it while we were on the phone. The tech called and told me who he was and that he got a call from AHS about my refrigerator. He asked me questions so I knew he was a legitimate dude. He was very polite. He came in and asked me what was going on and asked me why I thought it was the icemaker. I said that I didn't know. I was getting water on my floor and the icemaker has given us trouble before and I thought maybe that was the same situation. He said okay and he opened up the refrigerator, and he said that was not it. He said he got a bummer deal for me and I asked what it was. All I could think of was a new refrigerator and he said that we got to clean out the fridge.
We had to take everything out of the fridge and he helped me. He was a nice guy. He worked for 45 minutes to an hour and he said that I could put everything back and that I was done. At the very back of the refrigerator, there was something to do with evaporation of water and he said that it gets frozen up sometimes but there’s a pan for it to drip into. Sometimes, the pan will get full or dirty and it will overflow. When he opened the refrigerator and took out one of the drawers in it, he told me to look at all the water and he said that it was what was dripping onto my floor. He heated up the coils and then, he turned it off and cleaned it up. He put the shelves back in for me so I could put the food back in and he said that should take care of it. He also said that Samsung had a valve that looked like a duckbill and when it would get hot or full, it would clog up. He had a replacement for that and he said it won't happen again. So, I said okay.

American Home Shield is supposed to send someone to do the rough finish on the ceiling where the plumber had to cut holes. They might have tried to call me and I didn't answer. We were having water leaking from the ceiling because we had plumbing issues upstairs. The plumber was super friendly and a great guy. He got in there and got the work done properly. I had also dealt with him when I had our penthouse two years ago.

I've had a problem with AHS one time when our garbage disposal went out. Then recently, I submitted a claim when my dishwasher wasn't draining right and the soap dispenser wasn't opening. The appliance service guys came in, they fixed it, and everything's great until now.
Great! We appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

If I knew how things work, I would fix it myself and avoid the cost but I’m not an AC mechanic, that was why I called American Home Shield out. The first issue was there was no hot air coming out. It was at 10:30 at night. And of course, it always happens on a Saturday night. I was in the kitchen. My wife was out in the bedroom, and she said, “There's something wrong in the air.” I said, “What? How do you know?” She went, “I just felt it go on. I normally feel a whoosh of cold air, and it came out warm.” So, we looked. The fan was not running, but the air handler was running and blowing air. In other words, the thermostat was triggering and the thing was kicking on, but the outside unit wasn't working, and it was just blowing warm air.
The first technician came out and said that there was a short in the wires and one of the capacitors was bad, but there was also a small reptile that had gotten in there and shorted out a wire. He had to fix that. It worked after that. It was cooling the house. He explained to me what he said happened. He was pleasant, professional and he did the job.
The second guy came for the motor for the fan. It was making a weird noise. It wasn't doing that before. I have the contract with American Home Shield, so if it had been making that noise prior to them coming out, I would have said, “Hey, it's making a noise too.” I've never had the motor replaced. The guy said my fan motor was bad. So, he replaced it. Kudos to him for that. He initially said, “Hey, I don't have one with me. I'll have to get the part and I'll be back.” Now, the fan was still running, but it was making this noise like it wanted to break. He came back a few hours later and said, “I got the part. So I'll put it in today.” I thought that was great. If it had got to be broken over the weekend, then I could have been a whole another weekend without AC. So, that was an extra special effort put in by the second guy.
The only problem, and this is not just with American Home Shield but also with a lot of other companies in the US, is their representatives often have an accent. It's sometimes hard because they don't understand these nuances in the English language. Even though they understand the English, they lose the little nuances, and you can really go down a rabbit hole with that. Other than that, I find American Home Shield has lived up to their end of the contract very well.

Normally, stuff gets fixed pretty quickly. But we're in some kind of holding pattern waiting on parts to come in for the AC. Floyd came out first but they don't work on this particular brand of AC unit. So when it got into the nitty-gritty, they had to refer it back to American Home Shield and Home Shield had another company, Blizzard, come out. I have a hard time believing that it takes two weeks to get in any part anywhere in the world. The air conditioner should get fixed sooner than a two-week waiting period. Sometimes American Home Shield is like, "We're going to try to piece and part it together," instead of replacing the unit if it is bad. But in general, I would recommend American Home Shield and I would renew with them.

When I set a claim up online, it's easy. It's almost instantly that a contractor calls and they have someone within 30 minutes. I get a text saying that a contractor is coming out to look at my problem. Some of the contractors are not very good at all but some of them are great. The air conditioning place that came was great. All American Electrical Services was amazing. The guy that came for the lights that kept flickering was awesome. He replaced something on the sides. That's my second time that I've had them out here for a different occasion and they've done a great job both times.
American Home Shield has been great. The only problem I've ever had is getting ahold of somebody. They have such a high volume of customers now and you're on hold forever. It never used to be like that. Sometimes, the people are nice and their hands are tied. The stuff that the first electrician that they sent me was saying made absolutely no sense. I'm not an electrician and I was confused. I wasn't comfortable with it. When I called American Home Shield, they called somebody else, and the problem was fixed. They said that they removed that electrician from their system. Also, I had a plumber come out and they weren't very good at responding to American Home Shield, telling them if the case was solved. American Home Shield couldn't move me forward or do anything. It was stuck in limbo going back and forth and that was a pain. It was the contractor's fault for not completing their paperwork.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.
We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

Sears came out for our dryer the next day after I filed the claim. The young man was efficient and he fixed the problem. That dryer has now broken twice. It's probably $500 worth of repairs or more and we've paid $150 for the copay. We had a problem with the dishwasher too. We've had American Home Shield for three years and we've used it three times. It’s been worth it every time.

The air coming out of our AC system was no longer cooling. American Home Shield's claim process seemed very straightforward and quite fair. The service itself was very promptly scheduled and taken care of. The service call identified the issue and it was an inexpensive and quick fix. We were back in good shape that same day of service. We were quite pleased. Our experience has lent support to the notion of a home warranty being a good preventive investment that I would recommend.

The only drawback is the contractors that come through American Home Shield sometimes and they don't know them. I don't like most of them. They're a pain. They don't want to work for AHS. They try to make more money out of us and that has been a problem. I call back and let AHS know about that particular incident. And normally, they're good and they say, "Well, if it doesn't work, we just go ahead and assign somebody else." But I've been lucky that I haven't had issues with the plumber that I had and the person who came for the refrigerator to be fixed a few months ago. My ice maker was leaking from the wall. It's a valve to the refrigerator line that goes for the ice.
Some of the quality of work, I'm very satisfied, some, I'm not. But if you're older or you're a woman, you live by yourself, you don't have to screen anybody to come in. This is the best way. They're really good. I have recommended AHS to my other friends and members of our family. My co-workers are the single moms and older women. They live by themselves or they take care of their parents like I do.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point.

The AC wasn’t coming on and off. So, the thermostat wasn’t reading anything. It took a week to get the techs out but it was in a timely manner. My husband made a claim to American Home Shield on Friday of the week before and the contractor fit us in on their first available. The two techs were wonderful. I explained to them what was going on. They assessed the situation fast and told me exactly what was wrong. They weren’t even at the house long. They fixed everything and explained everything what they had to fix and what I need to look out for. And then, they were on their way.
Everything has been great since the repair. The tech told me to wait a couple of hours because on my second level, that's where everything is hot. He checked both ACs on the top level and he said that once the AC that he pointed out cools off in a couple of hours, everything upstairs will be fine. And it was. This time, the home warranty worked out and it was what we paid for.
We own another home which is warrantied by AHS. With this house, everything seems to be great. They always send a technician out and I've never had a bad one. They always assess the situation or whatever they say is wrong is what's wrong. They fix it and there's nothing. But at our other house, it's horrible. Every technician they send out is always like a patchwork and it's never the real problem. Our property manager there took a picture of the inside of our AC. It’s rusted and we've brought that up to American Home Shield numerous times, telling them that the house is over 15 years old. They will not warrant to replace the AC but they will do patchwork on it.

Hers and His Plumbing - Florida came out to fix a couple of things. Two of the things they fixed were fine. The last thing was the toilet in my master bathroom. It was running. We assumed it was the flapper because the flapper was sinking in. But once they left, the handle became really hard to push. Maybe the chain was too loose and then the toilet is constantly running now. It's running a lot longer than it was previously. It'll run for four or five minutes and I have to go in and shut it off.
On original claims, going into American Home Shield seems to be fair. It's just when it goes down to do a recall, I don't know how to do a recall without having to resubmit a payment online. I'm nervous because every time someone comes, they mention that if you continue to have issues with certain things in your house that American Home Shield becomes a really hard company to deal with. So, I'm on the fence of stopping the service or continuing it because I feel like I'm paying them once a month and then the $75 for someone to come out, if it keeps breaking and they have to continue to fix it, they’ll basically say that they're gonna just cancel the contract. They don't continue to fix the same problems if certain things re-occur all the time. So, that, I'm having an issue with.

My icemaker didn’t make ice, and Digital Warrior came out to repair it. The repair man was very friendly, clean, professional, and polite. He called before he came out then took out the icemaker and seemed to know what he was doing. He had to order a part, but when he put the new part in, he still found a problem in it. He ordered another part and hadn't been back yet. It takes time to get a part, and that was a week ago.
