Having AHS has been good. Submitting claims is very easy. Cabot Mechanical was quick to respond to my claim for a heating issue. He fixed the problem and my heat worked for a couple of days then it didn't work again. Cabot came back and fixed it. Yesterday my heat wasn't working again.
We appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

I did a claim online for the range hood of my stove. Calvary came out, immediately diagnosed the problem, and took the pictures. They let me know what the next steps would be and then followed up on their side. So it was great. The range hood is still not working because the part was old, but it was resolved today after we spoke this morning. They are ordering a new one. That process was completed online and we should have it here in a couple of weeks. I've used American Home Shield for about eight times and all of them have been good. The only issue was the timing on ordering parts. With the current situation around COVID and delays in shipping, it took longer. It was not their fault.
Hi Jon,

I had three issues. In my refrigerator, the freezer was kept freezing at the bottom. Then there was something about the top of the burner, and also the microwave. The first one that came out was nasty, condescending, rude, and disrespectful. He doesn't listen. He's a know-it-all. He fixed the refrigerator. He partly fixed the stove. Then he said there was nothing wrong with the microwave, that the microwave was supposed to sweat, even though I told him my microwave never sweated. He did nothing to the microwave. They have yet to do anything to my microwave because the first one claimed like that. I called back to make sure that the second person that came out was not him.
The second one was a lot more respectful. When he came in, I saw his demeanor and I had to readjust my attitude because I was thinking it would be the same negative energy, but luckily for me, it was the total opposite. He had a lot more time. He didn't seem like he was being rushed like the first one. He explained why the stove was doing what it was doing. He told me to google it and YouTube and see that what he was saying made sense. So he gave me a little bit of education, he was timely and very professional. The first one needed to go to whatever training the second one went to. I would definitely recommend AHS, I just wouldn't recommend their contractors. On a side note, my contract expires sometime next month or this month and I intend on renewing it with AHS. They're a pretty reliable and decent company.

We file claims with American Home Shield online all the time. I don't like calling. There's one gal that I get all the time when call and she’s very difficult to understand. The online process is simple. All we do is click on what's the problem and we get an immediate response on our phone. Then someone calls us within a couple of hours. It's really quite good.
We’ve used Blue Star and we were very satisfied with their work. The first time they came out, they had to install a new water heater and they had to bring it up to code. They did fine work and they were very courteous. Everything was good after that. The second time they came out was this past week when our toilet tank cracked. It was an older toilet and they replaced the whole system for us. They did it in less than two hours. I’m satisfied with AHS.

All the servicemen AHS has are fantastic. Kenneth Buggay Mechanical recently came out and they were very good. They didn't have a part so they went back, came back, and got the part done. The issue was fixed correctly. They did make me walk a bit which I would not have liked. I would have preferred them to just come into my room and tell me, “I’m leaving.” Every single time, they would yell from downstairs which is okay. It's better that way.
Some of the contractors have like a 60-day warranty while some of them have like a 30-day warranty. I would prefer that there is a placeholder in the work that they can put down their comments. I've had like 10 people walk in last year and it’s hard to remember which is 30 days and which 60 days. Also, AHS' website and phone service are so bad. It takes like three hours to get to someone. They could improve mainly on following up. I'm selling the house and for the termination of it, I was on calls for like three hours before I could get to the right department and speak to the right person.
Their phone service has a bug in it. It offers me to put the ZIP code and I put 30066 which is my ZIP code. It will repeat 30066 then tell me it's an invalid ZIP code. I gotta keep doing that over and over and over again. So then I have to pick the wrong choice. Then there again, you wait an hour then they put me into another department an hour then another department which is another hour. There is really no place to transfer service or terminate service right away.

The furnace was making a lot of noise. McCormick came out and diagnosed that it was just a bad fan. They just had to find the fan for a really old furnace, and then they came back and put it in. It's working fine. It makes a little different noise, but it's definitely quieter. The technician was great, explained to me what was going on, and that I didn't have anything to worry about with the noise until they got it repaired. Their office staff was in contact with me when the part was on order. So, it was great. I only had to call American Home Shield once just to confirm because there was a little glitch. It looked like it was closed online at first and then it got reopened. It was just a technical thing.

A-US Air did a good job. The unit is now working. I've had good experience with American Home Shield. At my other house, I could get the pool and everything covered through American Home Shield. Since then, they've added more items to the coverage that I got way back when on my other house. Then when we came over here, we called American Home. Shield again. They always did a good job and explained the portions that were going out of pocket.

I found water running down my floor after I ran the dishwasher. So, I thought there was a problem with the dishwasher. But when the first guy came out, he said that it was the garbage disposal. Then, the second guy came, looked at it, and ordered the part. He came back a couple days later and installed it quickly, which didn't take 15 minutes. Everything is working great now. The tech was also friendly and professional. He came in, greeted us, and got about business. Then he said, “Thank you,” didn’t leave a mess, and he was gone. All in all, my experience with AHS was quick, easy, and as good as can be expected.

The pilot light on the water heater wouldn't stay lit. I called American Home Shield and it was after hours. The contractor ended up calling me early the first business day before I even had a chance to call them so that was good. The technicians were professional. They wore their masks and they waited for me to let them in. They explained everything while they were doing it which I appreciate. They went beyond what they were probably supposed to do.
When they were doing the diagnostic of what was wrong, they went through two different common things that caused that issue. They found out that it wasn't either of those. It ended up being the control and they turned out they had one. To be able to do it in one day was pretty impressive. I appreciate it too 'cause I know sometimes with the American Home Shield, the part has to be ordered first. But for some reason, the water will be hot then it will go cold. Then it'll go hot again. I don't know if it's the part they put on or it’s just adjusting. I'm giving it some time to see if there's any problem.

Trying to get ahold of anybody seemed like impossible. I called one day and then it would just ring and ring and ring. It wouldn't go anywhere. The next time I called, I ended up getting ahold of them. I tried getting ahold of the company through them and it was difficult for me at that point in time. Closing on a house and not knowing anything about any of it, and then I go to open my dishwasher and it didn't work. American Home Shield's automated service should have a quick option that goes right to connect you to the person that they sent out for us. Because I'd call and I’d just run into a dead end, and then it'd hang up on me. Then I gotta do the whole thing for another 20 minutes and go a different option.
American Home Shield was really quick to send out somebody. When I called them, they said somebody would be out in 48 hours and the tech did. But he said he couldn't work on the dishwasher because of their legal side of it. But it was nice that American Home Shield didn't charge me $75 for that guy. They were awesome in that aspect.
I didn't realize that there was a clause in the home warranty thing saying that any appliances under the age of one year can't be serviced because they're still under manufacturer warranty. So for somebody that has a newly remodeled home, I wouldn't suggest American Home Shield because everything is under a year old. But for somebody that had an older home and wanted to do it, I would recommend it. You can't beat 75 bucks to come out and look at the problem. Most people's service charges are around $100.

We've had Home Shield since we purchased this house. This was our first experience with home warranty. But the people who we bought the house from, they were like, "Look, we've had AHS this whole time, it's been great. We highly recommend you keep it." Because it is an old house. It's as old as my husband. And I know he's having problems, so this house probably will too.
Most of the time, I submit claims online. When I do have to do a claim, it is very easy. I like the new feature. I was able to use the beta feature they have out where I could select my plumber. That was neat. There's a quick button once you log in, do a claim. It narrows it down to categories like, "Is it your appliances? Is it like something to do with plumbing, etcetera?” And there are lots of options. I was always able to find what I need. The online aspect of it is really nice because I don't like sitting and waiting on hold.
May Heating and Air recently came out because our heater wasn't heating. It was blowing cold air. They came out and my experience with them was good. He was able to make a fix right away. But for some reason, they had to come back out because it was working when he left. It's that time of the year down here in the Southeast. One minute, I need the heat, the next, I need the AC. A few days later when I needed the heat again, because I hadn't used it after he fixed it, it was blowing air again. The tech came out and assessed that what he did before fixed the problem, but then something else was out. It was something they called the limit switch. He showed me how to reset it until they could get the part in. But they ordered a part and they will come to put it in tomorrow to replace that switch that didn't work properly.
But so far, our experience with Home Shield has been good. Up until a few months ago, I was like, "I don't know if this is worth keeping. We don't use it all that much. It does cost us a monthly thing." And then here lately, I've had to do two claims. We had a backup in our plumbing and we just paid the deductible, somebody came out today and fixed that. We're happy that we have it. Do it.
I come from the backwoods of Tennessee and nobody in my family had ever done home warranty. My mom always thought it was overrated. I come from a family that always saved for hard times, but you never know when you're going to need to replace your entire furnace. Especially if you don't have a bunch of money sitting in your savings account, this is a really great value. Because you make small monthly investments to protect you for big things. And so far, so many things are covered with Home Shield. I find it hard to imagine that other home warranties are as inclusive. Home Shield covers my sump pump. I was surprised that they cover parts for our pool.

American Home Shield's responses are timely. They're reasonable with scheduling and the service people they send out are qualified and friendly. It's always a good experience and I have no complaints. We called for our dryer and after the tech's assessment, he had to order parts and then he came back and installed them. Our dryer is now working.

American Home Shield couldn't find someone to come out to my house. Finally, they found someone and the guy who came out said the furnace was broken and there was no explanation as to what was broken. He said AHS was going to contact me. I waited two days but AHS never reached out to me. They took my $125. I asked for it back because the guy did not fix anything. The furnace, till this day, which is three weeks later, is still broken. After they sent out the KB people that most recently came out there, AHS wants me to sit there and pay $1,900 out of pocket for a furnace that's been installed in my house for five years that they installed that is now broken, and I'm not paying it. Their service sucks. I'm trying to get someone to cancel the other contract that I have with them, but they tell me there's nobody in their cancellation department for me to cancel my contract.
If you have an issue, and you call and you ask to speak to a supervisor, they say that they can't get to a supervisor because of COVID and then the supervisor has to call you back. I've called four times, so that’s every day, and they tell me a supervisor will call me back. Not one supervisor has called me back and today is now Friday.
Are you still in need of assistance?

American Home Shield is awesome and I love them. The motherboard on my Samsung washing machine went bad. There was a problem with the suspension. Sears came out and they rocked it. They were responsive. They had to order parts and the parts were out of stock so it took a little longer than I wanted, but that was handled great. The washing machine works fine now although it’s a little bit longer in initiation time than the old one.
I'm a fan of American Home Shield and I'm a huge proponent of theirs. I'm the president of our HOA and I tell people when they move in that the first thing they want to do is to get American Home Shield. Most people would ask what that is and I tell them that it will be the thing that saves their **. American Home Shield does a great job. I have always been blown away by the quality and responsiveness of what they do for me. I've had some of my neighbors who had other companies and they have not been happy.

South Placer did one of those seasonal tune-ups that American Home Shield was advertising. The technician was very nice and friendly. I had some questions about replacing the filter and he was very open and receptive to my questions. He gave me the answers that I was looking for. So, it was a good experience. But yesterday, it was not.
My water heater leaked everywhere and I called AHS. They assigned me a vendor. I got an email saying who the person I would be working with and that they would be calling me back in a business day. If not, I should call them. I called and left messages. One time, the voicemail was full, I couldn't leave a message. So, I called again and left another message. I haven’t gotten a call back. So, I don’t know if I need to call American Home Shield back again and see if I can have somebody else help me with it. Thanksgiving is coming up, which means some people may not be working and I’m gonna be without hot water for I don't know how many days. But other than that, I’ve been very happy with AHS services. Every time I need something, they are always there.

Arash came for our furnace that had stopped. He was very skillful and found out the problem very easily. He took care of it very carefully. So, the furnace is working very well. When we have multi problems, like for example a furnace and a dishwasher, we like to have those in one order, paying one-time money. That's not doable with AHS. Sears has a better offer in that regard and we would like to get the same service with Home Shield.

So far, things have been good since then. I just purchased a 26-year-old condo that still has the original HVAC systems. We opened up a ticket with American Home Shield for a running toilet. Immediate Response responded immediately saying that they would have somebody here between 1:00 and 5:00. They called 30 minutes before they were going to show up. They got here and they did their testing. In a matter of 30 minutes, they called me back over and it was done. They shared what the issue was and what had been done. They tested the toilet several times to make sure that it was no longer leaking. I tested it myself.
Once I was good with it, they said that I just needed to fill out my paperwork. In a matter of less than an hour, they showed up and were gone. I couldn't get any better than that. They're good at what they do and they come quick. Any homeowner that doesn’t have American Home Shield's coverage is crazy. They have saved our lives so many times. There were things that I didn’t even realize were covered till I happened to ask.
We were having issues with our kitchen lights tripping the circuit and something was going on with the garage door and our ceiling fan. Summer has now gone away so the ceiling fan really wasn't important. With $75 for each thing, we had some other priorities going on so we were gonna wait for the garage door. When I was asking, they said the electrician was coming and he'd look at all those. American Home Shield has really saved us money. It’s been a blessing. My mother used to have another company and the one time she needed them, they didn't come through for her so she dropped them. At first, the problem started out with an issue with the stove and American Home Shield sent the tech out on the 18th of November. The tech changed the bake igniter and then two days later, I had a carbon monoxide leak with the stove. I had called 911 and the fire department came out. I had a high level of carbon monoxide leak all upstairs, my bedroom, my daughter’s room, and in my living room. So we had to wait outside for a while so that the fire department could at least get the carbon monoxide air down. So once they were able to get it down to a normal state, they allowed us to come back into the house. But he told us to turn on my fans and open up the windows for like an hour.
After that, I called American Home Shield. They sent out a tech on the 23rd. He came out and he said he didn't see anything wrong with it. The fire department turned my gas off on the 23rd so I've been without a stove since. Since the 23rd of November, I've been going through this hassle with American Home Shield because the fire department told me that I needed the stove to be either repaired or replaced. American Home Shield felt that since the tech came out and he didn't see anything wrong with it, they were not going to do anything. So I filed for a fire department report. I’m allso going to write to their corporate office because this is ridiculous. We could have died from that.
I also had an issue with my refrigerator. American Home Shield sent a tech out. But when the tech came out, he said it didn’t have anything to do with American Home Shield and I had to call a plumber. So I had to pay a deductible of 100 with them and then had to pay a plumber to come just to replace a cord. Don't go to American Home Shield. Try to find someone else.

We had American Home Shield in the past at our previous residence and we had them for years. A majority of anything that we ever had problems with got addressed and got taken care of. There are some that took a little longer than normal but overall, claims typically got taken care of fairly quick. The service works but getting ahold of anybody that would be able to assist you in a timely manner is very difficult. I believe a majority of the people that I spoke with in the call centers don't work directly for AHS, so they don't know everything about them and how their policy works.
The title company was the one that started the policy for us this time and they didn't get the one that covered appliances and all that stuff. I called and the rep explained what happened. She said that they hadn't received payment yet for the overall, but it typically takes a few days. Then, she said it would be an additional $100 to pay for the upgraded service. I paid for it and got it taken care of. A day or two later, I called to do a rekey and when I was talking to them, they said I haven't made my payment yet so they couldn't do it. I reached out to the title company and they said they made the payment and the check was cashed. They called American Home Shield. My title company contacted me back and said AHS said they have it on file and gave me the account number. I called AS back and I talked to another person that had no clue what they were talking about. But the rekey went wonderfully.
Then, the dishwasher wouldn't start a cycle. Only a few of the buttons would work correctly. We were contacted by an appliance company and they scheduled an appointment. Their guy came out and he looked at it. He told me it needed a couple of different parts and that he would attempt to order the parts a week or so. He contacted me shortly afterward and said that the parts weren't available and that they would let American Home Shield know what was going on. He said to give them about 48 hours and then to contact them. When parts aren't available, they would replace the unit.
I called AHS a couple of days later and they said that they were still looking for the parts. They would try to exhaust all of their efforts to find the parts before replacing the dishwasher and I understood that. I waited a couple of days again and contacted them back, and somebody said that they weren't able to find the parts. It would be transferred over to their acquisitions place, the people that do the purchasing, and I would need to wait to hear from them.
I waited a little while for that and never heard from anybody. I contacted them again to find out where we are in trying to get everything taken care of. The person I spoke with said that they were still looking for parts and that the ticket’s not closed. I asked what is their normal timeframe before they stop looking, if they have a certain number of vendors they go through, and if there is a certain amount of days that this takes place. The rep couldn't answer any of my questions. When she answered the phone, she did it saying, “Thank you for calling your home warranty company.” I think it was a call center environment where they're answering phones for multiple places because she never identified American Home Shield when I was speaking with her. I asked if there was somebody else I could speak to. I wanted to understand how long is the timeframe before something gets done.

UPDATED 12/22/2020: Well I'm STILL waiting on a response from AHS to my facts regarding their response on my complaint (10 days) and still waiting for the part to be delivered to the technician for installation. Two months waiting for an oven to be fixed. NOT because of anything I can figure out other than it is an EXPENSIVE oven, and the part is more expensive that a regular oven. But, at $80, that is STILL not a very expensive part, so why did AHS refuse to let the technician order it, but instead decide to source it themselves? Technician was at my home first week in November, and AHS ordered the part on November 29!!! And promised it would be delivered on December 18. But, no part delivered. And I'm still without that oven!!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I've been with AHS for over 20 years. Service has generally been ok, but this one is the worst ever. I reported my ovens stopped working over 5 weeks ago. I have an expensive stove, and the repairman has had to come out twice because of a defective part. It's been weeks and AHS does not want to pay for the cost of the parts for my stove. The repair service can order the parts, but too expensive for AHS so they are trying, for another 2 weeks now, to source one part for less money. How much is that part? $80!!! For the amount I pay monthly, for over 20 years, and maybe 4 service calls in all that time, this is horrible service. FIX MY OVEN!! 5 weeks waiting because the parts cost too much? Isn't that why I have a warranty service? One month practically pays for the part! Not at all happy with this company!!!
Hi Bonnie,
I am disappointed to her about the delay in service that has been experienced to have your oven repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

My refrigerator was leaking water, it’s not making ice and it's not cooling good. The guy who came looked in the back of it and it’s like it had some areas in it where the ice had frozen through the refrigerator. Then, he said nothing could be done about that. It was unrepairable. He said that they were gonna send the warranty company an update. American Home Shield supposedly is gonna reimburse so we can get another one, but I haven’t gotten a reimbursement yet.

My washing machine was cutting out. It would stop mid-cycle, so I couldn’t wash at all. Runyon came out to fix it and the guy knew exactly what he was doing. He had the code book with him and checked the codes. He had the part on the truck, replaced it, and was done in an hour. It was amazing. That one went very well, but I had another one that was for our refrigerator and that didn't go as well. It took forever to get the part. I was lucky that the fridge still worked a little bit, so I didn't lose everything.

The Anthony Polisso Appliance Repair rep called and scheduled everything. He was very professional and very to the point. He got everything handled. They explained the situation about backlog of part orders due to the COVID situation. They recommended that we look into having Home Shield do the replacement route instead of the repair route so that's what we did. Home Shield is worth the money, especially moving into a new home and with something like losing a microwave right off the bat. We're still trying to move into the house. That's a big thing so it's good to get it replaced.

I went online and did a service request through americanhomeshield.com then paid my service fee. This was back on October 30th or 31st. My appointment was gonna be through Sears for November 10th between 1:00 to 5:00. I was okay with that. I kept getting texts saying, “We're gonna be there in like a week. We’re just texting to confirm. Please confirm with us that you still want the appointment.” That was from another week out and the day before. But on the day of the appointment, I didn't get texts.
I have made this appointment on my day off, which I don't have very many of, and I was sitting there. Being right in the middle of my day, that kind of ruins anything I wanna do in the morning or doing my errands or stuff that I wanna go and do. I waited around and by 4:30, I still didn't get any notification saying someone would be by. I wound up calling Sears and they told me all of their techs got overbooked. I could understand that. I asked when they could schedule me and the lady said the next available one was on November 20th.
But I already waited for two weeks for my initial appointment. I was livid at that point for the fact that they didn't even bother to call me. I paid for the appointment and now Sears was giving me 10 more days out for me to sit there again and probably be told that they were overbooked. I believe that if I was put aside, I should get the first available appointment. I should be in the next day. But the case was someone hadn’t picked the 20th. I told her to put me down for it already since I was the only name they had. I also called American Home Shield directly and it was after hours. The representative did everything that he could and he was very apologetic. He said the only thing that he could get was Sears on the 20th so he scheduled me for that.
American Home Shield has been great. But I'd tell others not to bother with Sears too much. Even though you might be told one day, it doesn't mean that that's the deal. Based on my experience, American Home Shield was still working in the background. The rep was trying to give me the best that he could at the time when I talked to him and he was still on top of things.
The very next day, I got a call at 7 o'clock in the morning asking if I was gonna be home that day. It was from Angels Appliance and the guy said he would be there around 10 o'clock in the morning. That was fantastic because I was gonna be available. He was there not even half an hour and knew exactly what the issue was. He said he was gonna put me in for a part. Not even a week later, they had come back with the part and we're all good to go. This was before the 20th.
He was so professional. He had on his little booties to keep the floor from getting wet and had his mask on. He was very careful about where he put down his tools and things. He took out the oven from the wall, looked it over, and did everything he needed to do. He then put everything right back. I really appreciated that. Angels Appliance should be number one on the list over Sears because when the tech came, he just showed his experience.
I've had American Home Shield for many years. When we lived in California, we had the home warranty and I loved their responsiveness. I could understand sometimes the issues with only being able to have a certain technician to come out that are in that area that are willing to even take on the contract. But I like to have the feeling of having American Home Shield behind me because I know that those technicians weren’t gonna kinda cut corners and that they were gonna be held accountable.

My water had stopped working. It wasn't flowing out the refrigerator. I called in, we were able to do a video chat to see. The Home Shield rep was able to get the VIN number off the refrigerator. It went very well. And then, Greg came, looked at it and said he had to order a part. He ordered a part, fixed it and it's working. Greg's services and whoever he brought with him did a really good job. They were in and out. They wore masks and were very professional. I really liked that. Having Home Shield, I don't have to worry about who to call or find to get services done.

We moved into a new home and on the day we moved in, our refrigerator died. I called American Home Shield and set up an appointment for two days later with Long Lane. The tech, Mario, came out and knew right away that it was not a revivable refrigerator. He was kind, polite, and exceptionally clean. He explained everything that he was doing and was very knowledgeable. He even gave us advice about different appliances that we had. When we were going to get a new refrigerator, he kind of made a recommendation of which ones he found were easier to service and had better reputation. He was very helpful. Long Lane was out on a Saturday and on Monday, we had an email from AHS saying that they would pay for us to get a new refrigerator. That was all handled very nicely, although we haven't received the check yet.
We've had another claim since then that did not go well at all. We had a new washer installed upstairs and it turned out that the drain pipe was completely blocked. We couldn't use the washer because the pipe regurgitated all the drain water all over our laundry room up there. That was on a Monday and we called AHS that day. They said they would send out a plumber and that plumber never showed up. Days later, they said they would send out another plumber. That plumber called and said that they don't do that. Then on Friday, AHS said they didn't have any other plumbers in the area and they were going to get permission for us to go out of their service line. On Saturday, I called and they asked for 24 more hours but I never heard back from them.
On Monday, I called and they said that they would get a supervisor again to approve someone outside of the service area but I never heard back from them. Then, on Tuesday, I called and they said that a supervisor would call me back but the supervisor never called back. And on Wednesday, the supervisor called while I was away from my phone for five minutes. I immediately returned the call but they never returned my call. We finally had a drain person come out and they cleared our drains for $400. I called that supervisor back to let them know that and I haven't heard back from them. The first experience was so great but the second experience was so awful. To go 10 days without a washing machine was hard.

The flush of the toilet wasn’t working and we put the claim in to American Home Shield last week. Two plumbers came last Monday to check the problem. The second plumber brought a snake and he put it to clean the sewer line that goes from our house to the main line. According to him, that solved the problem but that was not the case because after three days, we started having the same problem. We tried other things to try to fix it on our own but then yesterday, the problem was the same as it was before, which was why we followed up with a second claim that continues to the one we put last week. The schedule offered to us by All-Out Plumbing to come to our house was this morning and we were not at home so we rescheduled for Wednesday. Whenever we had to put in a claim or called AHS, they've been very responsive. So, it’s been great. The only problem has been that the problem has not been solved, which is fine. We'll eventually solve it.

Someone came to check on it and they determined what needed to be replaced. I was told that I would get a call once the part comes, which I did. The part did not take long, but according to the company, because of COVID, there was some delay. But other than that, it came and they did the repair last week. The icemaker is now making ice and I don't have to buy ice from the grocery store. I've dealt with this same vendor that AHS used for the refrigerator and they’re good. Patriot Plumbing came out and fixed the washing machine nozzles. The quality of work they did that time was good. That's why it was taking so long for the water to heat up in my half bath sink.
If I submit claims online, I can do it. But if I try and call in, I wait over an hour to talk to somebody. I tried to add a claim onto the person that was coming out, and they said they could do it. But then they ended up double charging me. Home Shield said they would take it off. I waited six months to get it taken off, and had to keep calling in and waiting an hour to talk to somebody. Finally, it was taken off. But I couldn't put a service request in in the meantime, because it would tell me I had to pay for it before the service request button would work on the webpage. I would have to call in to do a service request, and I had to wait an hour on hold to get through to somebody to do that. That was aggravating. It has been simple with American Home Shield. But I had one emergency issue that was not dealt with promptly a year ago. They didn't give me a call back for a few days. So I had to get a friend to help me mitigate the issue otherwise, my whole ceiling was going to fall through.
American Home Shield didn't seem to have any other plumbing contractor to help in the state of Rhode Island. We're a small state, but we're pretty densely populated. They need to have some kind of backup for that. AHS said that I could find my own plumber but it was an issue that was going on right then for me to do the research and find another plumber. I had American Home Shield when I was in California and I was thankful I had it. I had a problem with my heater or my AC unit and for that service call, the contractor must have done about $300 worth of work. I had a good experience back then and I went to them again for this property. But the gotcha with home warranties is that, say, something happened to my heating and air conditioning and I didn't take advantage of the special that they offered for a yearly checkup, then I go to AHS and file a claim, they would not honor the claim.
I took advantage of that offer and I'm glad I did. The tech from Carolina Air Heating and Cooling found the capacitor in the AC that was wrong that could be a problem down the road. He was very informative. He told me exactly what he was doing and he was very respectful. He covered all the bases and told me what he found. I will be calling AHS.
But my wife doesn't like the fact that we pay every month for it, especially since we had a faucet broke a while back and because we didn't have the faucet serviced, AHS didn't cover it. I had to pay the service call for that faucet and find out that they couldn’t fix it. That made me mad and I was ready to change to another service if I could. Then the contractor said they can fix the problem, which is an osmosis system, but it's gonna cost us 400-something dollars. We decided to get rid of the whole system. I called that same company back and they removed it for $175.
When AHS is doing the policy for people, they could have someone go over the little things. They could make sure the person acknowledges that when they get a kitchen sink service, there's another line or a couple of checkboxes underneath that say faucet service, disposal service. It's the little things that are like a gotcha but I'm reluctant to get rid of AHS. If something does go out, we don't have the money to pay $1,500 for a stove or $800 for a refrigerator but with the $56 a month insurance we got, we get one right away and we don't have to wait. I'd rather pay AHS and be safe than not pay it and be sorry. I don't regret it.

The last problem that I had, they sent a plumber out and the plumber that came out was awesome. He took the time to look and really make sure that it wasn't a plumbing issue. Then, it was transferred to the HVAC guy, who was incredible. He gave me some advice on what to do. Both were excellent service and were all under one claim. I only had to pay $100 once. This is the second house that I'm with AHS. The outsourcing of telephone customer service is a little weird. But other than that, it works. I like it.

I've already encouraged others to get AHS. We have a yearly contract with them and if we have a claim, I just call for service and submit the deductible over the phone. The reps I talked to were very good and when I had a claim recently, things went very well. The service person came and identified the problem right away. And even though it was a challenge to correct the problem, he worked around it and got done in a timely fashion. So we were very pleased with it. He also had his mask on the whole time. Plus, he did plumbing, so a little water was on the floor and he cleaned that all up. Then, he asked if everything was okay before he left.

My last person was good. The times before that, American Home Shield wasn't good. I spoke to someone. They talked about privacy and the rep looked through my file. He sent the person down to another address that I have because I had three addresses with them. They take your money upfront so when it's something with a correction, you have to pay upfront again first for the service. It's escalated to a supervisor but the supervisor can't get back to you within a day. I get it but it's 72 hours which makes no sense.
I got two things fixed in my current home that I'm in. I paid $100 and the rep said that the one for the dishwasher would be $75. I told her just keep the $100 ‘cause I was going to put in a claim for the dishwasher. One claim was for the toilet and another claim was for the dishwasher. They were two separate things. She waived the fee but they sent me a bill for it so I did not sign up. I had three accounts with them. I now only have two and I probably will close out the other ones when they come time for renewal as well.
I've had bad service with some of their providers and I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield for anybody to get it. The customer service is truly bad. The providers say they're going to be there one time but they come early and say they can't wait. They weren't supposed to be there until a specific time which was between 2:00 and 4:00 but they got there 1:30. I said, “I can be there at 1:45," which is right in the middle. They said, "We can't come back until another time.” So, you lose your money. You already pay a monthly fee upfront then you have to pay $100 for the service call for the techs to come out. If they go to the wrong address, you're screwed.

American Home Shield is good. I had a problem in my kitchen sink and a problem with my shower in my bathroom upstairs. Submitting the claim was okay, except they had listed that they would cover a certain amount. But to put in a new faucet and everything in the tub upstairs, they didn't cover half of what the cost was. The plumber said that Home Shield used to cover that stuff. Now, they don't. They said, “It used to be that they weren't scrutinized so much.” I had a claim a couple of years ago and that went well. I had a line to my refrigerator where it runs the line for the ice and water. They took care of that. But this one with the tub was $250. They had to go in and take out the wall and replace the entire shower fixture. I ended up paying $500. It was kind of off-putting because I kept thinking, “Why am I paying $800 a year and they only pay so little on that?"

I have four policies with AHS which I previously had with First American. First American was a nightmare and their customer service is not quite acceptable. On the other hand, AHS is great. I'm very pleased with them. Up To Code Plumbing came out recently for a leaky shower. Everything they told me happened ahead of schedule. They told me I would be notified in 24 to 48 hours because I said it wasn't an emergency situation. I was notified probably within an hour. There was some lag time from when we called it into when they serviced the property. But that was on our end, not theirs. We were trying to get a time to schedule it that we could make sure somebody was at the house. My adult son was there and said the guy could not have been nicer and explained everything. A kitchen sink faucet stopped working. It was one of those ones with the sensor where you'd just tap the faucet and the water turns on and off. IGD Plumbing came out and they recommended replacing the faucet because water flowed to the rest of the house and everything was fine. It was just that particular faucet. We agreed to replace the faucet and they came back a week later and replaced it. The water flow started and everything was fine. But we didn't have any cold water. So we asked them to come out again and it was a really simple fix. The hot and cold water lines that feed the faucet, the cold water just had a little crimp in it so no water was flowing. So they just straightened it out. Overall, the process was really easy and very smooth. Everyone that I talked to both from American Home Shield and IGD Plumbing was very helpful. I had a lot of questions and they were very patient with me and answered all of them.

Then they said to use the website, which is much better, but if I have a problem where I have to talk to a human, it could be difficult for the phone call, a long wait than the website. It takes forever to get in. You have to call in and wait for 15 minutes before anybody gets to you. And then, because we live in a rural area, it takes a little longer to get people out here. We don't get the response as quickly as I'd like it. But the response time is the only thing I have a problem with. Our recent claim was my kitchen sink. I tried everything to unplug it, but they wouldn't go, so we brought A-1 Plumbing out. My wife was here when he came out and he got it working. He got it working on Tuesday, but we had to leave town for a funeral on Wednesday. We haven't messed with it until yesterday. We got back yesterday, and it clogged up again. I wasn't able to do it, so, I called him this morning. I had to call in for another ticket, but they said if it was the same problem that I wouldn't be charged, which is what I'm hoping. They called and I was hoping I could get them out today, but they said they couldn't make it until tomorrow afternoon.
Other than that, I had my air conditioning, a washer and dryer worked on and it has always worked out for me. My dad and sister also has Home Shield. I've been in this house approximately nine years. I had it here. And then when I lived in Dallas, I had it in there too. I've told a few people about Home Shield because I work about 45 miles from here in Lubbock, Texas, which is a larger city. I work with a few people there. I know that a few people have signed up because I've told them about it.

We had a plumbing claim in the early part of the year and the faucets we have in our home are from Moen. Previous home warranties would give us something comparable to what is already existing but what AHS wanted to give us was something very generic. I wasn't satisfied with that. I didn't want to do it and I had to pay out-of-pocket to get another faucet. I had to pay for that upfront after I paid for my service call, which is $100. That was more work for me and more out-of-pocket. It was reimbursed but I don't think that I should’ve had incurred that out-of-pocket cost upfront when that's the purpose of a home warranty. I almost left American Home Shield for that reason and I was on the brink of saying I would go back to the previous home warranty I had before. I decided to stay and give them another chance. Recently, we had the garbage disposal fixed and that was handled pretty quickly when I called in the service.

The bottom heating element inside my oven stopped working. I called Home Shield to schedule a time for them to replace it. Within 10 minutes of submitting the request, I received an email that my claim had been assigned to a vendor and that I would receive a call from them. A guy named Ethan came and he took a picture of the little plate inside the oven. I was under the impression that he would bring the part with him. But he reminded me that Home Shield had to order the part and that the process would take between five to seven business days.
Before I had a home warranty, I replaced simple parts like that plate myself. I wondered why ordering such a simple part would have to go through Home Shield when the tech could have just gone down the street to one of the local parts places and could have had it the same day. I discussed it with my sister and she said that it was due to AHS having bad experiences where vendors were charging more than they should for the part. So if they have to go through Home Shield, there is no foul play with prices. Also, the guy replaced the part but I didn't get any kind of paperwork. I should get some saying that the part had been replaced. Having AHS has been a pleasant experience for me.

All of the stuff that were replaced have been of quality. The people I talked to any time I called in have been very good to work with. And even though I felt a little slighted for that year, I do everything I can to promote AHS.
It's very easy making a claim with AHS but I'm having a problem doing it online. I had the old account when I started up on my policy this year. It won't let me set up contact with my new account. When the machine runs through, the soap's getting clogged in and not rinsing out like it's supposed to. The guy who came out fixed a spring at the door. Then he ran in and said everything was fine, but that wasn't the case. The actuator is not releasing the door now that the spring's fixed. They can't get the part to fix it, and now I'm waiting on them to tell me what they're going to do about replacing it. I've been waiting since last week Tuesday to decide what they're going to do. I tried to get ahold of them today, they said that it's all for replacement, but they transferred me over to somebody in the purchasing department, and after 30 minutes on hold, I had to hang up. I had to go do something else. Supposedly, I was going to get an email about cashing it out. I was asking if they're gonna cover the installation as well.
I used to have First American Home Warranty. When they came out, the guy almost rebuilt the whole brain of the stove. I thought they could have replaced the stove a lot easier than coming out three times to fix it. But then the money got tight in-between jobs, so I discontinued their service. When I went to sign back up, they wanted me to pay three months of service. I said, "I'll just find somewhere else that's month-to-month." I came to Home Shield.
Everybody's experience is different. I'm hoping that mine’s just one of those things. I know that I'm better off with something. Even if they do cash me out, I don't understand that part because it's either fix or replace. I paid like $50 a month. So we're like, "Okay, to me, $50 a month it adds up.” But now that I'm using it, at least I thought everything was going to be really smooth and easy, but it'd be a lot cheaper in the long run than if I didn't have anything. But I've seen another warranty on TV just this morning, and they do a lot more stuff so I was thinking about looking them up too. But overall, to have your stuff covered is a peace of mind.

Home Shield is helpful in terms of not having to look for somebody to do the service. For instance, I had planned to get my locks changed. And I saw that is a service that Home Shield provides. So, instead of me having to look for someone, I can just get it done through them. The biggest thing is that there are some projects that I plan to do. I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years. When I first signed up with them, I had no trouble getting anything done. Now, when I call in, I gotta sit on hold forever to get anything done, and a lot of times, the service too. I just went through an incident on my microwave, which I called in, paid my deductible. They dispatched a company, which was fine. They came in a couple days. They said it burned the circuit board out and they're not available anymore. So, we had to get a new one, which is fine. AHS gave me a buyout price. They also told me that they couldn't get one, so if I wanted to wait, I should call back in three weeks and they would place an order. Which is what I ended up doing because I couldn't find one like mine around here in Madera. Then they already told me they had checked and they didn't have one. So, I went ahead and had to order it.
When it got here, I was supposed to call them, and they were gonna dispatch somebody to take the old one out, put the new one in. I called back. I was on hold for an hour. Somebody picked the phone up and hung it up. I called back in. I was on the phone almost two hours before I finally got ahold of somebody. When I talked to the person that they dispatched to do the work to set the appointment up, he said, "Well, I don't know why they had told you to call us. We don't do installation." So, then I had to go through everything again.
We never did end up finding anybody that would come and do it for AHS. I ended up having to call somebody myself in Madera here that I knew did that kind of stuff, and they came over and put it in. Then when I re-called and talked to the lady, they reimbursed me for the installation cost. I'm supposed to be getting a check on it.
When the garbage disposal wouldn't work, and I called in. AHS took a week to get somebody out on the garbage disposal. I had already tried to see if I could get it to work. I couldn't get it to work. When the guy came out, he did something up in the top, flipped the switch, and it worked fine. That's how we got it taken care of. It just took certain time to get somebody out.
I've referred a lot of people to AHS and I've had a lot of people sign up with them. I've always had good experience. It's just that AHS has gotten a lot bigger than what they used to be and it's harder to get stuff done. I'm not patient when it comes to hold time. AHS should have one of those things to where if it's gonna be a long hold, we can leave a name and number and they would call me. And I won't lose my spot in line.

An AHS representative immediately responded to my review and marked it as "in resolution." Don't let this fool you. I received a form email from someone and immediately responded within the hour.
After sending this individual several emails to follow up on their "desire to help" I have had no response. I've gone back to dealing with AHS via their phone center. It's still a disaster. I still don't have my money refunded. I've had to pay out of pocket for repairs. At this point all I want is to have my contract cancelled but it appears that I cannot do that either. This company is a scam and I am going to report them to the BBB and the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau because what they are doing is almost certainly illegal. Would recommend others do the same if they experience these shady business practices.
Original Review: I've been with AHS for over five years and have warranties on two properties with the company. Recently, I've had claims denied and/or the contractors never show up. There is no one who is able to respond to help me in the customer service department. Each time I call it's as if I am calling them for the first time for assistance. There is absolutely no follow through and nothing you can do to respond to you. Most recently, on 11/2/2020 I submitted a service request to have someone come out to my home and take a look at the water heater.
It is now 11/21/2020 and the contractor has not responded to any of my phone calls. I've contacted AHS at least eight times, waiting on the phone for long periods of time each call, and they've been unable or unwilling to transfer the service request to another contractor. They keep telling me they first need verbal approval from the first contractor (the one who isn't responding to my phone calls) before transferring the service. They also refuse to cancel the service call. And most recently, they are now also telling me that I cannot cancel my contract. I literally speak to a different person each time I call. I have no idea what is happening and each time I am given the run around. It's an absolutely horrible company and I would recommend that folks look elsewhere for help and service.
Hi Ana,
I hate to hear about your most recent experience and the delay in service to speak with a customer service representative. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

My heater didn't work. I went through American Home Shield's automated thing. I spoke to the Higginbottom’s guy when he came. He called me and told me when he was gonna come. He called me later that day and scheduled it for the next day. He was in and out. The repair helps out a lot because I can go from air conditioner one day to heater the next day. My experience with American Home Shield has been great except when I had the air conditioner fixed, I had to pay 2,200. They might have said something about the type of contract I had. I paid for it but I thought that was the whole point of American Home Shield. If they can't fix it, they'll replace it. I paid for the air conditioner. American Home Shield paid for the Freon. That was only like 10 bucks a gallon.
I've had American Home Shield on two other houses. I had it on this house and my other house that I sold. I've never had a problem with it before. But I've never had central air. And it was the inside unit that broke. It started off 3,200 but then it came down $1,000, so it's 2,200. I'm selling this house. I'm gonna leave Home Shield on until I sell the house and I'm gonna transfer it to the new house.

The waterline in the fridge kept freezing. I'd defrost it and it would refreeze again. GE Appliances have been out here prior for the same issue. So they came again and they said that they believed the door was the issue. They ordered a new door but when it came, the handle didn't fit. They didn't make the right door where these handles would fit and they didn't send handles. Other than that, the claims submission with American Home Shield was super easy. I've had a few things fixed and they do a great job. People who are considering purchasing a home warranty should do it.

The front of the oven stopped working. Mr. Appliance called within a couple days of me putting the claim in and set up an appointment. I had to cancel the first time, but it was rescheduled and they came out to look at it, and then had to order the parts. They came back once the parts came in and rescheduled and put it in. So it was pretty good. The oven has been working good.

The dishwasher stopped running water, so we called it in and the techs came out. They discovered that the control panel on the front of the door was the reason it wasn't pushing water through, so they ordered the control panel and fixed it last Friday. It was a seamless process. AHS is worth the money. I also have a rental house in Hampton, Virginia and four years ago I switched to AHS from 2-10 and I've been happy with it ever since.

I had a tub leak and S&J Plumbing addressed it. The plumbers were awesome. I just purchased the house and it was a flip. Apparently, they didn't tighten the drain cap and that caused the leak. It needed to be tightened. This is my second service request and the only thing was that I put the request in on a Monday and I couldn't get anyone out ‘til Wednesday. I was really concerned about the water leakage. My first claim was on my furnace but I don't really know what the outcome was on that. I was told that someone would get back to me on it but I haven't heard boo. I've heard nothing but great reviews about AHS that's why I picked them. I do know that they are one of the best in the area but I am not happy with the turnaround time and what the outcome is on my furnace.

American Home Shield told me that they would call in a few days and that they were going to leave a message. But I didn't get the message from them. When I called American Team, they said that they sent in their report to American Home Shield. I waited another fours day to call and know what happened. American Home Shield told me that it was because the American Team was asking for one piece and that it was going to be there in about three days, which was true. They came out and fixed my heater. It is working good. The guy who went in there was very nice and professional. He was on time. Overall, American Home Shield and American Team were good.

With it being in the 10s and low 20s in the house, it was kind of important to get somebody out pretty quick. The ice maker wasn't working. The tech showed up way early but it was fine. He had to take something apart in the back and he was there less than half an hour. Everything's working fine now. For the most part, we like American Home Shield. But we had to really look at the contract and scrutinize everything before we decide whether we're calling or not because we found some things that weren't covered that we thought were covered. Also, it can be kind of a pain sometimes in trying to get through to somebody. But now, my wife does what she can online. A while back, there was an issue that she couldn't get it done online. So then, she had to call and deal with phone call stuff a lot. But other than that, we're happy with them.
We've had a handful of things we've called about. We had a couple of fairly minor plumbing issues and the problem we had there was the contractor that they sent out. The first time, they were fine. The same company came out the next time but it was a different guy. The claim was about some of the shutoff valves that were failing. The guy said they had to be rebuilt, which sounded weird to me that they wouldn't cover that. So we had to call our own plumber. For another couple hundred dollars with a different plumber, he said that was ridiculous. The first guy said he couldn't replace the valves. But when our plumber came out, he swapped them out in about 10 minutes.

When you want to make an appointment with AHS, it's not too bad. You just say what it is, then they tell you that they got this company that's gonna reach out to you. It’s easy. The Nova HVAC was very pleasant, very professional, talked to us, told us what changed in this and showed us the piece that they were replacing. We had another experience. We were getting a new sump. American Home Shield sent a company out from West Virginia and I live in Clinton, Maryland. The company came out and said, “Okay, we’re gonna order, we gotta do this.”
They hadn't come back, so we started reaching out to them and called Birch Street, in West Virginia. They never answered the phone and never called back. We tried to figure out what was going on, we wanted this sump pump put in. Then, it rained and it poured, and it cost me $10,000 worth of damage in my basement. Now my insurance company paid six and I had to pay an additional four. I ended up getting an independent company. They put a sump pump in and it cost me $1,900. I called American Home Shield and I told them. They said, “Okay. Send us the invoice, we'll reimburse you.” Then finally, they told me they called that company, and the company told them that the whole value was 400 and something dollars. I paid $1,900 dollars to get a sump pump that they should have put in, then they reimbursed me for 400 something dollars. I'm only waiting till I can settle down, so I can get rid of AHS. It was terrible.

As soon as I finish this episode that I have, I will email the paid invoice, take my $588 and cancel my contract with American Home Shield because I am not happy with anything that goes on with it. The Freon is $110 a pound. When I went back and read my contract, American Home Shield only pays $10 a pound. The compressor in my AC unit went out and it's gonna cost me out-of-pocket $1,060. It's inconceivable that they can repair a compressor and not putting Freon back in and then charging the consumer the charge for the Freon. It really frustrates me that I agreed to take a buyout. For a replacement of a compressor in my unit, they said I could only get $588.
A year or two ago, I had a leak in the slab of my house, which wound up costing me a little over $5,000 because American Home Shield only agreed to pay $900. They wanted to come in and jackhammer the concrete in my bedroom where they thought the leak was and repair that and put concrete back in there, which I was gonna have to pay out-of-pocket for who knows how much. But I chose just to have a house replumbed, which cost me almost $5,100. The only thing that I have come out even with was when my icemaker didn't work in my refrigerator. For $125 service charge plus the $55 that I had paid that month for the membership, I got an icemaker fixed. But other than that, it's been a real negative experience.

I told him the one upstairs, the bedroom temperature doesn’t match the thermostat either. He said okay. But he was like, “Just leave your room door open, so the airflow will come through.” It doesn't work like that and it was still hot in the room at nighttime.
I called Beaches Air again and told them that the other technician didn't look or check the temperature upstairs in the bedroom to make sure it matches. So, they sent out another technician, and he told me exactly what was wrong. It was just the layout of the house, with the intake in between two air vents in the master bedroom. He was like, “Your intake should have been on the other side of the room when they built the house. But since they didn't, it's sucking out all the cold air that’s coming in,” which makes sense. He told me how to fix that, which was to cover up the intake in the bedroom so that the airflow can stay in the room and not be sucked out as soon as it comes in. Everything's working better now.

They said because of COVID, they needed me to submit a picture of the water heater and a picture of the label on the water heater, and they let me know that the water heater needed to be replaced. I asked them if it was a possibility to get a tankless water heater. And they said, “You have to have an upgrade on your electrical.” And many times it’s more expensive and I would have to pay out of pocket if I wanted a tankless. They said I had to have a 60/60 volt on my electrical, which I didn’t have. So, I waited and was trying to get a couple of quotes myself. I wanted to know if they would give a cashout option if I decided to get a tankless. It took a couple of days, but they gave me a quote of 1,200.
I was never able to get ahold of an electrician so I decided just to go with the original. So, they sent out an electrician just to switch out the tank, and this happened last weekend. They were great. They came once last November. I had to have them snake my drain in my toilet. The company had him out there within a day. They were super fast. They would have been faster with this other, except for I was trying to get some information and trying to make the decision. I had a home in Woburn for 20 years. I found that American Home Shield is a few dollars higher than some of the warranty providers and at one point, I said, “Let me try this other one.” I ended up trying two companies that supposedly saved me $30 a month, but when I called them, they didn’t cover it. I learned a lesson. A lot of the common things, American Home Shield cover 100%. Anytime I've called, they've replaced and always upgraded to a better unit. I'm impressed with that. Everything, they've done for me. I had a dryer that went. The girl said, “Let me upgrade it to a better one.” I had a clothes dryer that looked incredible as well. It looked like it came from a super movie. When we had a stove that went bad, it was upgraded. They've also changed two built-in air conditioners over those 20 years.
If you call in, the wait time will drive you crazy because they are so busy, and they're so big. It's a 20-minute wait or higher. However, they give you the option of putting you back in the line and they'll call you back. I'm old school though. I wait. I'm usually on the phone for half an hour before I get somebody. Still, I will never get rid of American Home Shield. I recommend them all the time. I tell people, “Don't get caught trying to save 20 or 30 bucks a month. That’s $300 a year you’ll make up in one repair." American Home Shield covers tons of stuff, while most of the others don't. I sold the home last year and bought this other house in Billerica.
Recently, I've had a couple of plumbers out here and D & S was super. The first repair was the leak in the kitchen. The plumber came out, saw the issue where the leak was in the sink. Something was corroded, and they ordered a new one and put it in. That went perfect. Five days later, we found my water heater was leaking and I had another company that came out from American Home Shield, originally. They said that it was an 80-gallon water tank. "It's too big, and it's leaking, and we don't want to take it out of here.” I called American Home Shield. I said, "I'm 77 years old. I think this guy wants me to leave the water heater here or take it out myself." I asked them to please assign me somebody else and they reassigned to D & S.
The same guy, David, came out and went through the repair. It turned out it wasn't the water heater at all. It was a leak from the top of the water heater. The pipes that corroded and leaked down leaked to the front of the water heater. He said, “Your problem is not the water heater. Your heater is six years old. It'll last another 10 years." He replaced the piping up there and cleaned it up. The guy saved me a lot of aggravation. I was gonna have to get rid of an old water heater. Both jobs, the guy was pleasant, sweet, super-nice, and I’d recommend him highly.

The first plumbing service that Home Shield sent out was not so good. The tech was a nice guy. But between the two visits to our house, he spent a total of four minutes between the two combined. He said, “I can't open anything up to look at your plumbing. You have to have someone else do it.” And I said, “Okay, why?” He said, “Well, you have to have an asbestos test.”
Apparently, being in California, that’s the law, so we had to pay $600 for an asbestos test. And then he came back out and he was like, “Well, they're supposed to make holes for me.” I said, “Wait, there's no asbestos. There's no mold. They tested it. We spent almost $600, Here's the reports that you asked for. They're filed with the state. Here's a copy for you.” “I still can't do anything,” and walked out. But both times, he also said, “Well, here's this other restoration company I’m okay with. Call them and tell them that you're working with me, and they'll give you a good cash price.” That alerted my radar. A big, waiving red flag in a hurricane.
The second one, Plymwr Plumbing, was top-of-the-line. However, Home Shield is supposed to call me back for two days to repair the hole in the drywall and the hole in the house outside that the plumbers had to use to get access. I'm still waiting to hear back on this latest one to get our drywall repaired. Hopefully, before Christmas.

We love Home Shield. We got it first because when we bought the house, it was part of the sale agreement that the sellers would do a year of it. And within a couple of months, we were like, “We’re gonna continue this.” It has been great. Our recent claim was the $75, and they come and do a tune-up or check out your heater. I went online and clicked the segment that said “do it”. And then, the contractors sent a text message. After they were assigned, I received a text message from American Home Shield, too. And then it was also online, saying that North Star was the one that had been assigned to that. They called before they were coming and they showed up on time. My husband was the one that was downstairs in the basement with the heater with them. And he said that they were very professional. They gave him a lot of tips on how to keep it running better. Home Shield is one of the best things that we've done. I would recommend doing it.

My kitchen sink and the bathroom tub was clogging up. The guy told me that it must have been some grease down the drain. He did snake it and he pulled a little bit of grease out. He said that didn’t unstop it and that it needed to be snaked from the outside of the house on top of the roof where the little pipe is.
Every now and again, my plumbing stops up. Each time American Home Shield sends somebody to my house, they get out as far as they can and every single time they do that, they say they can't go any further. My plumbing doesn't get unstopped. One time I had to have Roto-Rooter to come out. They snaked it out as far as they had to to get it unstopped. I don't know how far 500 feet can go but I think it should be stretched a little bit more than that. I don't have the drain on the outside of my house so I'm not sure how big of a difference that would make if I had the big plumbing thing on the outside.

It was easy putting in a claim to American Home Shield but it was not accurate. They misunderstood my call. The technician came out and he didn’t fix everything that I wanted to. It's still an open claim. I didn't realize that some things are not covered under the warranty. So, I need to look into which one is covered and which one is not before I make the call. Because when the tech comes out and says that it's not covered by AHS, I'm out $100 copay. If I want to fix it, then I have to pay directly to the vendor.

As soon as I submitted my request, I got a call and they scheduled the appointment and had someone come out that afternoon. I was very happy with American Home Shield and the service that it was contracted to. They were clear about their precautions on the phone that everyone in the house would need to wear a mask and stay 6 feet away, and they were very good with maintaining that as well. My Realtor uses American Home Shield and he has recommended them. AHS also has a reputable name. I like the peace of mind now that I have it. The claims submission online was very easy. Everything went great. The tech was very knowledgeable. He was there for about 15 minutes and had the problem fixed. It turned out that there was some kind of vent hose in the back that was clogged up. The technician had this little tool and he unclogged it. After that, it worked great. But it took them a 10 days to get the AC taken care of in the middle of summer. We needed a whole brand new system but they didn't cover that. It should be covered under their policies. When filing the claim online, it doesn't tell who you're going to have at first, and both times, it would be 10 days out, over a week, and that’s too long. I clicked the option that none of these work for me. Then, it gave me the number of Ashman Appliance Service, and I called him right away. He said he would come out the next day, and he did. So, it was either a 10-day wait online, or I call them direct, and they were out the next day.
Ashman came out twice. The first time was because of our fridge. It wasn't cooling. The second time was for the element that went out on our stove. Both times, we were very happy with their service. They were very professional and clean. They asked over the phone about COVID to make sure everything was fine before they came in. They wore their masks and they were even very friendly on the phone when I first called them. Just right out of the blue, I called, and the guy had me walk over to the fridge and walked me through checking a couple things, and he said that he knew what it was, and fixed it. We were very satisfied.
People should definitely use American Home Shield. Just make sure the issue is not something you could do on your own first because it's a $135 flat fee. If it turns out to be something that you can do yourself just by looking at YouTube, if you're not too nervous about it, do it then it might save you some money that way. But otherwise, as far as calling and getting it taken care of, I'm very happy with it.

The lady from Austin said that they didn't have anyone available for that day.
On the 20th, it was the same problem. We had to call Austin again and they said that they would come by on the 23rd. We've been out of heating for five days. We called American Home Shield again and told them that we wanted to change the contractor. We complained about Austin because they were not very responsible. We didn't like them at all. My washer wasn't working and when the techs came out, they fixed the problem. It took a little longer than I expected for the parts to come in but nonetheless, it got fixed. Submitting claims with AHS has been relatively easy, too. But people should know what's covered and what's not. Sometimes they don't cover everything. In my rental house for example, they repaired an upstairs bathroom, but they left a hole in the ceiling downstairs and that was not covered. Maybe that should be addressed.
I also feel that with the last things that I had repaired such as the AC unit, the heater and so forth, the range of the companies that AHS use in town aren't so great all the time. Neither is their service. And iIf they're going to use a licensed contractor, maybe they should let the consumer pick who to use or at least give us some options.

I was ready to ask for my money back with American Home Shield when I had a claim for the shower. There was no water coming out and we thought it was the shower valve. So they sent over a plumber. We're in California and COVID’s pretty high, but the plumber came in without a mask, and he was filthy. There's no reason for a plumber to be filthy, tracking dirt and mud throughout the entire house. We had ground concrete and I wasn’t looking to re-clean the floors.
I brought a part from Home Depot in anticipation that it was the problem. It's the part where the handle comes out and you control the water. The plumber put it in but it's a multi-layered part. There was a piece of chrome around it, and he started carrying on that he didn't do cosmetic work. But he did it and we put the water on it. It's a dual headed shower but only one of the shower heads was working. So I bought a shower head as well because I didn't know what was wrong with the shower. My husband asked the plumber to put it on and he started carrying on that it was dishonest. It was just insane. I thought it should have been part of fixing the shower. But I ended up getting an outside handyman to put in the shower head.
I put in a claim when the toilet started leaking. Kudos to American Shield as they expedited the request. I wanted to have a working toilet over the weekend. A different plumber came over and we thought he fixed it. It was dry and he left. But then it started leaking again out of the valve. So I called again and they sent over a different plumbing company. But I turned off the valve because I didn't want it to leak. So when the plumber came, nothing was leaking. The rep told me that I could call the plumber if it leaks again. She added that he tightened everything.
It started leaking again, so I put a glass underneath it. The plumber came back yesterday and he had to replace the gaskets on the supply line. So everything is now working and I'm pleased with it. But I was really taken aback by the first plumber. It's kinda hard to strike a contractor from American Home Shield's record because I didn't want the first guy back without the mask, with the mess and with his belligerence. I didn't even want his company back. But now, I ask for the plumber I want. We also sent in a service request for the AC check up and then a separate visit for the heating check. We paid for that and technician who came out was good.
When submitting a claim, I would recommend that consumers call to explain the problem. I did the claim online the first time with the shower to explain what the problem was but American Home Shield has limited choices. The only choice for the shower was the faucet. There's no box for text to say exactly what you're experiencing, so it really limits what you can do online. But when you call in, it's time consuming.
If American Home Shield is a company providing service, there should be a place where you could call if you're having problems. There's no one to complain to because you're dealing with the Philippines call center, and they can only do what they can do, so you can't escalate anything and you can't explain the problem. You can't even write to anybody. I tried to go online to write to people in the parent company and everything bounced back.

I've been using American Home Shield for a number of years because I had a couple of rental properties and American Home Shield was the service provider for those. They are still the industry leader. Other providers, while they may be out there, the question is gonna be about their coverages. American Home Shield at this point still has the best coverage. Whenever we use the sink, the water leaks. Under it, it looked like it had something leaking. That’s why I called Home Shield to order. The good thing was the technician could find that. He not only fixed the problem but he identified the cause for that - to look around the sink. Some sealing around the sink looked old so they could not seal anymore. So from there, they go under the sink and they can damage. The tech showed me that was the reason. And if that could be fixed right away to prevent the damage of the whole thing around that area. That's a good thing. I learned from watching, identifying and fixing the problem for me. However, sometimes if we needed something urgent Home Shield cannot because the contractor normally schedules one or two weeks to come to fix the problem. If something unique, right away, like reaching the 24 hours, you cannot wait because that's water. Other than that, Home Shield is very good.

Delays in authorizing parts will run you weeks into months, while you hang on the phone often for 2 hours on hold. They tell you they will "expedite" your repair- only no such thing exists. American Home Shield approved the work, and then the tech ordered the part, came out two days later and got the issue resolved.
Everything had to be done outside, so when the techs came over, they were six feet from my door, had their mask on, and they just said that, "Is there a way for me to get around to the back to have a look?" Nobody stepped foot inside the house. My cost is what was agreed upon with the contract as far as the service fee coming out and the coverage of the Freon. Everything else was covered. I wish it was free, but it's understandable. But as far as the tech, everything was flawless. That was my first interaction with utilizing the warranty. It was a good experience.

He showed me what was going on and what he was doing. He took care of it. He was here for about eight hours. The work was of top-notch quality and everything looks like it was supposed to be. Using American Home Shield was easy and convenient.
