I sent in a claim online for a furnace repair. The website was very easy to navigate. I did the online chat and the young lady that helped me was knowledgeable and very helpful. The contractor was professional and kind. He was knowledgeable and efficient. I had my repair done within 24 hours of submitting my request. I was very pleased. I would definitely recommend the warranty to anyone who is a homeowner. It's an amazing service.

American Home Shield has been great handling things. We're happy. I did the request online and it was quick and easy. I logged in, told them what I needed, and everything just happened. The repairmen came in, got things taken care of, and they knew exactly what they were doing. They were very friendly, polite and they were in and out quick. Except for the new sump pump, it didn't even look like they were down there after they left. The repair guy knew exactly what our problem was and why it needed to be replaced. We also had another plumber here at the exact same time because we had an issue with our plumbing again. Between the two, I was bouncing back and forth. My husband was here to help, but it was a crazy day.

We had a furnace go out early on and they replaced it. It was impressive. It'll be a long time before the value proposition is flipped the other side on that. Recently, a tech repaired my washing machine. It was great as well. American Home Shield has been a good value. That's why I've stuck with it. I would recommend it. There is the one improvement that I wish they would make though. In the event of a replacement of an appliance like for like, you pay to raise up the option.
If I want to upgrade appliances, it's like, "Well, I've got this warranty. So if I don't touch them, they're protected." The way it works to have the customer discretion and what the replacement is is a one piece where I've been, "I don't know." We had a faucet that they replaced, and it was good. They did a good job too, but occasionally, we've thought about changing the decor of things. It would be weird to have it fail and get a brand-new one that didn't match something where we were going to make the changes.

I was rekeying the house and the representative from American Home Shield looked up my account and sent the appropriate personnel. It was flawless. The contractor was polite, clean and very professional. The experience with AHS has been positive. My contract goes for another nine months so if I need them, I’ll give a holler.

I had an electrical outlet that wasn't working. American Home Shield got the guy out here. He did his job, and everything's good. They could have gotten him here several days before he did. I just didn't have time to do it, so I had to move it out. They were going to have him come out the Friday after Thanksgiving and I wasn't able to do that. We moved it to Monday, the 30th.

The guy let us know when he was going to be there, more or less arrived on time, and promptly rekeyed the front door lock. We just moved in, and for this particular issue, the claims process was very smooth, seamless and pain-free.

The light on the microwave would stay on and the microwave wouldn't work. When the tech from Economy Appliance came out, he said that the issue was the latch on the door. He got the latch and he got ready to put it in. Then, he said that what it did was the light went out but the microwave still wouldn’t work. He said that he felt like it was the memory board but when he came, he said that that didn't work either so he said we're gonna have to get another one. Also, he didn't wear a mask and I didn't like that. I know everybody has their views about masks, but when you're working and you’re with the company, I feel like you should go the way of being more careful with people instead of just considering your own view about that. But he seemed to be okay and he was a very professional man. He would call me when he was some minutes away. I liked using Home Shield. When I call them, they are very professional and so are their techs.

Right now, I'm not too happy. But it's not American Home Shield, it’s who they contracted to come to my house. They sent Hotshot Appliance to my house for my freezer. I have a side by side refrigerator. Just for the freezer part, this was the third claim that I put in for it. These guys came back, supposedly put a compressor on. I wake up the next day with a freezer completely defrosted and my refrigerator side hot. I lost both a freezer and a refrigerator full of food. They came Monday to put the compressor on. I called them on Tuesday but I still don’t have anything.
The so-called owner of the company told me, “I can’t have anybody out there until the day after tomorrow.” She gave me a lot of attitude. I told her, “Let me speak to your supervisor.” She said, “I’m the owner.” That experience was very bad, and I don’t know how American Home Shield still deals with them. I’ve called American Home Shield out five times and this was the one time that I’ve had a problem. I’m waiting for a supervisor to do something. I’m on day three without a fridge. I lost about $300 worth of food.

My electric bill was really, really high, and I couldn't figure it out. Then I realized that the heat pump had been running 24/7. There was a defective switch. The techs found the switch and replaced it. It just cost the original $100 charge for the guy to come out and do all that. So the insurance covered whatever the balance was. When the guy was here, he answered the questions and he seemed very competent.

We had a leak on our water heater and Reliable Plumbing came in and fixed it. The work took a while because they told us that we needed to reduce our water pressure. We had to have a pressure regulator put in first at our expense. We then had to call American Home Shield back so that they could reissue another order. Reliable Plumbing then came back and they finished the job. They were very professional. Everything's good now. American Home Shield is doing really good so far.

They haven't even followed up to let me know what's happening with that claim.

It's been warm and cold here in Arkansas. So, some days we shut the heat off and open the windows, then the whole system cools down. When we turned it back on when it got chilly, we got this rattling noise. We were getting heat but you could hear the noise all over. Over time, it would go away. It seems once the system got warmed up again, it would quiet down and then go to nothing. You wouldn't hear it any longer. It turned out, it was nothing more than one of the exhaust pipes upstairs. It just came loose and slightly moved. The vibration of the machine just would start it rattling. It was rattling up against another thing and making all the noise.
The guy showed up, and he went up there. We had turned it off. We turned it on. Apparently, it still was warm enough, and it didn't make the noise. He said, "Okay, here's what to do. If you can video it with the audio or just audio." He knew what it is. He had a suspicion that it might be something. What happened was he said, "If you hear it again, record it. Call in. 'Cause in 30 days, you get a recall." He went in his truck, started driving away and the machine started with the noise again. I said, "Woah, stop." My wife caught him before he left. He came back in, and it was rattling away. He went up there and he found it. So far, so good. There is no noise.
He was really good. He came over and he checked everything while he was here. He said, "You're in good shape." I was very pleased with it. They responded right away. They had a tracking thing. When he was on the way 20 minutes out, I looked at that and I could track him coming down the highway. It was a map and I could see where he was. He showed up right on time. American Home Shield has been good so far. We've used it a few times on the air conditioner. I'll renew it one more time because the air conditioner in the house is working fine. It rattles. We may have something big coming up down the road. So, I want to keep it under the system.

Our pool pump was so loud that my neighbors asked what was going on with it because they were watching TV with friends. We had to turn off it because it was making so much noise. We turned it back on after the next day and it wouldn't even come back on. Advantage Pool and Spa Repair was our designated service company and their tech James asked me what the problem was. I texted him about it. He said it sounded like some bearings went out and there were some nails tapping. My pump was gone. James said to take a picture of the actual pool pump. It was on the left hand side and I was to send the picture to him. He would see about bringing a pool pump with him when he comes and that was what he did. Our pool pump is working right now. My experience with Advantage Pool and Spa Repair was awesome.
I've been with American Home Shield for 15-16 years now and I always recommend them all the time. All my friends and family have the home warranty. I've been pretty happy with them over the years. But I have another open claim right now for my ice maker and the service people are not willing to work. I've said that to American Home Shield three different times and asked for somebody else to come and help me get my ice maker fixed. It's been over two months now and nothing has happened. They kept saying they would escalate the problem. But that was what they told me the last time. They said they were reaching out to the Coastline company but they were not responding back to American Home Shield.
The first time a tech came out, my son was at the house waiting for him. He did not ring the doorbell and all he did was knock on the door lightly then he turned around and left. He was pulling out of the driveway before my son got to the front door. When he came back, I left the front door wide open so he would know I was home. He just walked in and didn't want to work. The last time when he left, he said he put on all three parts that he ordered but the ice maker was still not working. He said I needed to need to figure out what to do with American Home Shield. I'm not real happy with my ice maker claim. I normally ask for Sears to come out because the guy from there knows what he's doing at all times. But this Costline company is horrible.

We had a hot water heater replaced through American Home Shield. The other one was leaking everywhere. The service was fine. One day, my husband was sitting over in the garage, and he noticed water running down the front of the hot water heater. The young man used the wrong kind of fittings, and we have a well, which isn't the young man's fault that did the work. The minerals in the well ate up the fittings. So, my husband had to replace a couple of them. Then we had one of our AC units worked on. That went really well. The young man that came out was very knowledgeable and did a great job. But I also asked him if he could get us an estimate for something else, and I never heard back from him or the company he worked for.
My washing machine decided to start walking around the laundry room when it was going through spin cycle. With the first guy that came out, I was very unhappy by the time he left. I was trying to be nice without throwing him out because he didn't do anything and I learned too much about him and his family. I had Trump flags out there. He made it known immediately that he didn’t support Trump or Biden. He hated both of them. It was like, "I don't care. Fix my washing machine." He didn't do anything and he didn't help.
When I called back, a different guy came out, and he did an excellent job. He actually pulled out the washing machine and replaced a part and did what needed to be done. AHS doesn't have any services locally though. They have to come from New Braunfels or San Marcos, which is like 34 to 40 miles away. But as long as someone comes and helps me, that's all I care about. I keep wondering why, though, every time I look at my credit card, the cost goes up monthly. I thought that was kind of strange.

Just in case something went out like a water heater, or something with the plumbing, faucets, or furnace, I could just easily call someone. SeaBreez came out three times because there were constantly problems, but eventually some problem has been resolved. Home Shield put my heater back together and I had my heating installed. That was all I really wanted. I wanted to pay for my contract for the full year but I've had trouble doing that. But I was told to call back in January.

I called in two different claims. I had one for all my plumbing, and one for my appliances. The repairmen were professional. They knew what they were doing. For the appliances, they couldn't repair it, so they ended up replacing it. When I called to get the approval for my appliances, I waited one time for almost two hours on hold just to speak to someone about replacing my appliances. That was irritating. Also, I'm still waiting on the replacement item and ‘cause of COVID, it’s taking so long to get the replacement items. For the plumbing, the repairman had to wait to get the parts, and then he came out and fixed it. It was okay, but the part that they replaced it with was a little cheaper than the one that I had. The fixture resembles the ones that I have but I could tell the quality was not there.

I was very satisfied with my recent experience. He was a rather young man that came over. He showed up when he was supposed to and was personable. He was a professional and he knew what he was doing. I didn't notice him to be a messy person. He didn't track anything into my home. He went about his work in a very workmanlike way. He put in a capacitor that he said might have failed on me. He also put in a quick start kit which I had no idea I needed such a thing. I was impressed with the guy, the level of service, and the ease of requesting the service. I've been impressed with AHS, so far. We're new owners of this home and there were some things that needed to be done. We've called on AHS four times and every single time we've had the problem resolved. The people have been professional. What more can I ask for?

The dishwasher guy showed up and said there was no water coming to the dishwasher. A valve wore out. It's a 15-year-old dishwasher so I'm not surprised. He tested it but I haven't ran a load yet to see if it works. I had a little problem with Austin Heating and Air on the air conditioner. That was replaced in July and they charged me $2,500 to install that air conditioner. I didn't expect that much out of pocket expense. One thing they would charge me for is the smoke alarm in every bedroom so I installed them. They would charge me $250 if they had to do it. They had to come to do a final inspection and they would have given me a refund. They never showed up.
In November, I called them and said, “That was July. Now it's November. You guys never came back by. When are you going to come back to inspect for those?” They came by but I still haven't heard a word about my refund. They had a little paper for the permit people to come look at and it's been up there for a good two weeks but no one's come by. I don't know if they just don't follow through very well all the time but I'm still expecting a refund. Austin Heating and Air usually fixes the air conditioner-heater right away then I'm fine. This is the first time I had an installation of a piece of equipment and an air conditioning that they had forgotten about. Also, when they installed the heater, there was a big gap where there shouldn't have been a gap so I had another air conditioning company fix it.

When I called American Home Shield’s number to report a problem, I got a recorded voice and the options that I was offered did not meet my requirements. For instance, it wanted to know what was wrong and I said I had a clogged tub but I also had another tub that was dripping and it didn't give me an option to choose a second problem. So, I ended up calling the plumber after they were assigned and adding on to that work order. But the paperwork part of it seemed to have gotten messed up. There was a mix-up or a misunderstanding or someone didn't follow through, and they only got the work order for the clogged drain and one tub.
The gentleman who came out explained that they could not do any work that wasn't listed on the work order, which I totally understand. He told me what I needed to do to request another visit without having to come up with another $100 service fee. I had a little bit of trouble understanding the gentleman I spoke with at the home warranty place. His first language was not English and I wasn't convinced that he understood what I was trying to say. So, I still have a dripping tub. But the clog was fixed by the plumbers. I submit claims with AHS online and the process is easy. When I call in, it is like I'm dealing with somebody from another planet so I do it online. I had a service call and the service provider was great. He came in and took care of the issue. He sent us pictures of what he had done. But he asked me to call AHS for something I need to let them know about and when I called in, it took nine minutes for me to give that information. It's a lot easier online.
Another claim I had was when the pool heater wasn't working. It needed to have some new igniters and some parts need to be replaced. I had to have a gas company out, a plumber for the gas line, and then my pool equipment people. I had four different service providers and it took nine different service calls to do it right because everybody was blaming the other one. It was fixed by Watertight Pool and Spa. The tech was very professional. I would call him back after-hours and he would answer the phone almost every time and if he didn't, he would call me back. The pool heater is now performing as expected.

I went for two days with no heat in that 20-degree weather at night. The first guy that came out told me it was the breaker. When he checked, he said I needed an electrician so I had to call American Home Shield back and tell them what he said. They had to wait till he filled out his report. Then they sent out an electrician and it was not a bad breaker. It just needed tightening up. When he finished that, he said, "You're gonna have to call the heat and air guy back out there." It was a rigmarole. I thought most heat and air people will have electricians on staff that could do both of them. That was two different people who came out three different times to get that completed. But they were very nice and very knowledgeable. It was pretty rough for a couple of days with no heat, especially I'm older and sleeping during the night with 27 degrees outside wasn't very easy. But it finally got resolved.
When we lived in Texas, we had American Home Shield for several years. We got it again when we moved back up here in January 2013. The people at American Home Shield are very pleasant. However, it seems like I get the very same person and sometimes she's a little bit hard to understand because she has an accent. But they try to work real hard to get your issues resolved. Even today, I have a call. My washing machine is out and the people that they assigned me to could not come out here till next Monday. I've been out of a washing machine since last Friday. I called American Home Shield back this morning and told them I really need it fixed before then. The rep got me somebody else who's coming out tomorrow so that's good. The Whirlpool washer was not moving to the different cycles of the wash. The nice guy who came out knew what he was doing 'cause when I saw him, just put it on rinse and spin. I told him that it was the only place where it would work. And he was telling me that that was how they reset the machine. He repaired it. But two days ago, I noticed an issue. The washer is not going full circle. It senses, but it doesn't go past the sensor. It’s one of those machines where it senses, then it washes, and then goes into all the other cycles. So it uses all the soap and the fabric softener but it doesn't go past the sensing. I'm wasting a lot of soap and water and energy as well. So, I'm still having the same issue. I was gonna call them back ‘cause he told me it was guaranteed for 30 days.
It's easier to call in and talk to a person from American Home Shield. It was very good dealing with their techs. But in purchasing something, I had to talk to his boss who actually translated it to him in Spanish. But he was very accommodating. Overall, American Home Shield is a waste of my money but I just can't get myself to cut them off. I talked to other people who told me that they got a brand new washing machine from them and I'd ask them if they were sure if it was American Home Shield. I've had them for years so I don't understand what's going on when it comes to claims ‘cause most of the time, my claim is not covered. We've had to buy a new fridge, cooker and microwave on our own.

There was a great deal of leaking happening underneath the sink and a questionable smell coming from the garbage disposal. The technician was here for 15 minutes. He felt that he couldn’t do anything without American Home Shield’s approval, which I totally get, so he took pictures and sent them in. The guy said it was gonna take a week or two to hear back before he could do anything. Then on Thanksgiving morning, there was a flood of water coming from underneath the sink. So, I had to rip everything out and do all the U-bend and piping stuff myself, which was mildly annoying. It wasn't that complicated to fix that sort of stuff, but what made it more questionable about moving forward was because the previous owners of this house had installed a shelf that went across the mid part underneath the sink. That meant that there were certain holes that they had cut into this board so the drainage pipe could go through.
It was a huge mess and now, things have gotten worse because of the large amount of water that came out of four large cracks in the fittings. A lot of water got between two boards that were underneath the sink. So, there's a lot of water damage under there. I understand that American Home Shield wants to ensure that there aren't faults and requests but in this kind of situation, it would have been nice if the plumber had a little bit more autonomy to be able to fix the situation without having to constantly check in with them.

They took their shoes off when they came in the house and put it back on when they got downstairs in the basement, every time. I had an issue with when they said they ordered the parts and they weren't sure how long it was going to be. I reached out to American Home Shield and the guy told me that he was going to give me a call back. He called me back the next day and they had an appointment for me ready. Somebody was coming out to fix it that same day. Everything works good now.

Some rewiring needed to be done as some of my electricity outlets weren't working. I did the claim online and it was straightforward. It gave me instruction on what to do and I did that. The techs were very professional and I will recommend them. They called to let me know they were coming and they were on time. They explained the problem and were excellent so I'm very pleased. I would recommend AHS because it saved me some money. I had two service requests done within one week and if I had not had the home warranty program, I would have paid more money out of my pocket.

A Advanced came out for a heating claim and I paid $994 for a compressor and Freon. Then, American Home Shield sent out another company for a second opinion and I didn't want the second company. United stood in my house and told me that I'm in a worse position before the problem even started because the emergency heat thing just kicks on but there's no heat. It's ice-cold air like the AC is on. They took the Freon out and they said that AHS approved it because they sent them for a second opinion.
Also, AHS keeps saying they don't have the paperwork from A Advanced and they don't have this and that from United but both companies were telling me AHS has it. They keep sending it to them. At first, I was upset with United but they were telling the truth. They emailed me all the notes that were sent over to AHS. In the notes, it said what they had to do. The note stated that they had to disable everything and go in to see exactly what was wrong. But now they did that, AHS said the company needs to replace the Freon. But I would have to pay 1,400 for United to put another one back in.
Then, I had to go back with A Advanced because they told me AHS called them. A Advanced said that United's diagnosis is not what it is. The problem is the outside condenser needs to be replaced and AHS is not covering certain things they told me they would cover. I bought the 994 with the modification fee just for the compressor and since I already paid for it, A Advanced said they will put the fee towards a new unit. The manager approved it. I'm paying $2,700 for a whole new outside unit. I had to go into my retirement yesterday to take out the $2,700. But A Advanced was so nice. They asked me if I can give them a postdated check with the date on it. I told them the money would be in the account on Thursday. They're on the way now with the machine and the system took about four hours to do and they're going to take the check from me and not take it out till Thursday.
I was going to call AHS today. I have made so many complaints with them. I want a claim form or something so I can submit the receipt of the 2,700 to see if they will reimburse me for something. I feel like they're gonna deny me, though, because they keep talking about this paperwork that they said they haven't received. It's so overwhelming and I got so upset. I have no heat and I have two grandbabies living with me - a one-year-old and 10-month-old - and the 10-month-old just got discharged from Children's Hospital with a major stomach surgery.
I've been dealing with this since October 28. AHS promised me they would call me back but I have not heard from them. And we stayed on the phone so long. The representative was very nice. She stayed long on the phone and she did try. But she was honest and she told me she doesn't even know what to tell me what to do. This is my third home and I've had home warranty plans before but I haven't experienced this. I've never used AHS before and I never will again. I'm not happy at all.

He was the fourth person to come out and work on our dishwasher. And finally, it works. He picked up after himself, was polite and professional. It takes Home Shield four or five times to get a technician out who knows what he is doing, but once it happens, they do great. You got to stay on them. If it doesn't work out, you got to call them back right away.

I'm happy with American Home Shield. The service is fantastic and I recommend it. However, the online process doesn't allow you to add other issues. If I have a microwave issue and a refrigerator issue at the same time, online accepts the microwave but it wouldn't accept me adding on the claim of the refrigerator unless I do it separately which means that I have to pay another $100. When you call it in, they say they can put in the claim for multiple things.
I had an issue with the microwave when it was noted that it had to be replaced because of the door. When American Home Shield sent out the email, they sent out a model with the wrong color. I sent it back and told them I didn't want that because the appliances are stainless steel. It was not gonna look good in the facility. Unfortunately, it was too late so I had to call the purchasing department. On my first try, I waited for over an hour and 30 minutes and nothing got done so I hung up. The next time, I waited three hours on the phone for somebody to tell me that they were not able to do it because they were overwhelmed due to the covid and they didn't have the right color. I told them to go ahead and send me the microwave but they never followed up. Today, the microwave still has a problem and they never fixed it. However, the people who came out for an air conditioning issue were very nice. They came out after a day that I reached out to them. They called in advance and did a follow-up.

A guy came out when something broke on a washing machine and he fixed it. The furnace is working but it needs some improvements. The guy gave me a quote and I would have to take out a home improvement loan to get it done. It's going to take a $6,000 home improvement to fix what was initially installed.

We lost the ability to heat the house. Our heater wasn't working through the heat pump. Handy Bee Repair came out following a claim we made. The first visit was on Thanksgiving Day and my wife was the one that talked to him. He told her about the thermostat. He said he thought it was a wire out at the heat pump then something to do with the thermostat that couldn't automatically transfer over to the propane, which it has been doing for years. We were having to run it on emergency heat, which was forcing it to run propane.
I asked him if he was going to close out the job and he said yes. But the job was not completed. Needless to say, my wife wasn't happy so she gave him a bad rating. The guy came back and found out that it was the heat pump that was bad. It had discharged its coolant. He diagnosed it and turned it in for replacement. That was on Friday or Saturday. On Monday, he called and said he had already picked up the unit that American Home Shield approved. He was out there that Thursday. It took a week from the first time we saw him to the time the issue was resolved. That's pretty fast in the HVAC world so we're more than impressed and happy with the overall procedure. The tech did a good job and everything turned out fine. He was there on time and was professional. He solved all of our problems.
We've been with American Home Shield for a decade and the few times we've had to use them has been tremendous. American Home Shield has been efficient and we will be keeping it. It's cost-effective as well, especially when you look at what it would have cost us to replace the unit. We would have to pay for it for almost 10 years but we get our money back with one major incident. We own another house in South Dakota that we're going to be moving into. We'll probably put the warranty on that too.

They called on this phone and on my phone it says it was a scam so I rejected it. They left a message and told us to call back. That was fine and we called back. But the message on their phone said that unless we had an eight-digit number, they would not return our call. We looked all over our paperwork from Home Shield and we could not find any kind of a number. We tried twice and left a message. This was over the weekend. They finally called and they were polite.
Home Shield has been great and we're happy with them. We just signed up for another year. We've had no trouble other than that thing with that one electrician. I was pleased with the service. When the gentleman performed to review both of our units, he was thorough. And he recommended instead of us changing our filters once a year, which is what the builder recommended for us, but because we live next to a quarry, he changed it to, "You need to look at them and review them, and replace them every four to six months because of the level of dust in the system." I really liked them. Also, he was nice, was on time, very professional, and he wore his mask.
The service has been beneficial. I wish the process would change that once your appointment is booked and that person has scheduled service, then charges for it instead of off the bat, taking our issue, noting it and then making us pay. Also, for this one particular other issue that when we called, it took forever to get someone out to us. It was an issue with the water. I ended up canceling the appointment because no one could get to us. It was an emergency, so we ended up paying a lot of money out of pocket to get to the problem. But we were reimbursed by the builder. But for immediate needs, the person couldn't get out to us for another two weeks. A week is max, but not two weeks. Other than that, I would recommend Home Shield. We used it when we lived in California. Now, we're in Texas.

We also ran into an issue with the heat and opened a ticket. Again they had no one in the area and so we just handled it locally with a plumber. I called in this afternoon to cancel the rekey request and the contact as we are well within the 39 day window. I am so frustrated after being on hold and cut off and then dealing with more people who gave no authority to handle refunds.
We have been told the inky thing that can be done is to wait to up to 5 business days for a call from the retention department as they are the only group allowed to process refunds. I have reached out to my credit card company to dispute the charges at this point as I feel as if they will never credit us. They make it so hard that I am sure people just give up. The claims process works well. We did a service request for a larger house that has a circulation system with a circulation pump that's outside of the water heater itself. The only disappointing factor is the kid showed up without a mask and we're in a pandemic.
I had a mask on and met him at the door, and he was like, "Oh, so you want me to go get one of those?" Other than that, when he came back, he had a mask on and he explained to me exactly what he was doing. "Look, I'm going to replace this section of the line, then we're going to turn the water back on and make sure there aren't any leaks." Within about 72 hours of me moving in, the air conditioner went out. I called American Home Shield and Myers Comfort came out. They had to replace the capacitor and one other thing. I also had a claim about my hot water heater that went out. Myers Comfort also came out on that, on the day before Thanksgiving, assessed it, and realized that it could not be repaired. It needed to be completely replaced and, along with that, also brought up to code. Unfortunately, they couldn't replace them until Monday, which meant that I didn't have any hot water from Wednesday to Monday. They replaced the hot water tank on Monday, brought it up to code, and everything was good to go.
The technicians that came on Wednesday were fantastic, very thorough, very respectful, explained everything to me, explained to me why it couldn't be repaired, why they were gonna have to replace it. They also explained to me that the codes had changed in the plumbing since my house has been built and that they would need to bring it up to code. Then the two technicians that came out on Monday were very respectful, very timely, and let me know every step along the way what was going on and what to expect. Before they left my house, they made sure that every faucet was working, that the hot water was coming from every faucet, and that both of my showers were working with hot water. I was very impressed with their service.
I had a lot of questions about the part of the bill that was not covered by American Home Shield. I still owed $1,000 even after my home warranty and I was a little bit of a sticker shock. They were very patient with me. In my mind, I pay the $75 service call and I expect everything else to be taken care of. They said that this was the part of the bill that was taken care of by the home warranty. The part of the bill that is bringing everything up to code is not covered by the home warranty. They explained everything to me to my satisfaction so I really appreciated them taking that extra time.
Unfortunately, I'm still having some trouble with some of my toilets clogging. The plumbers were telling me that I put in the claim saying that either the toilet was running or the toilet was stopped up and they analyzed that. If they found anything else wrong with it, they couldn't do any work on it. I asked them what was wrong with it. It's causing it to run and to stop up. I've spent $150 with two different service claims and my toilets are still not fixed.
Knowing the two men that came out Monday to replace the hot water heater were plumbers, I asked for a professional opinion. I told them what happened and that one of the plumbers that came out was with Myers. The second one was not. I asked what they would recommend. They said what I needed to do is to list everything that it's doing, because they were explaining on their end that they were bound by that one claim.
I've really been debating on whether or not to put in another claim, knowing that I'll have to pay another $75 to have somebody to come out. But my thought is if I'm having to plunge every one of these toilets once a week, that's a problem. I know American Home Shield has to have boundaries and rules. But I also feel like as a homeowner who has a home warranty, that's gonna really help me when I have someone come out, and the problem's still not fixed, it's just really disappointing. But they did a great job with the water heater.

My insurance is under HSA Home Warranty, and I just found out that HSA and Home Shield are all one. I've had the worst experience ever in these last two times that I needed to use my insurance. I called on a Sunday morning because my heat went out throughout the night. I tried to figure out what was going on, but I couldn't. I spoke to a lady and asked her if there was any way that they could put in for emergency repair because it's winter and it's cold. She told me that it was not that cold where I live at. It was 43 degrees and so she would not put it in for emergency. I then asked if I could speak to a supervisor. She didn't want me to speak to a supervisor. But finally, she got me one.
As soon as the supervisor got on, she didn't even allow me to say hello. She said that she already spoke to the person before me. I then told her not to speak to me like that. She just said the same thing that the first lady that I spoke to. I told her that it was not acceptable for me to be in cold. I'm paying for service and there's no reason that they can't provide that. She kept saying that I would not be getting an emergency service. So, I had no heat on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. I was very dissatisfied with the service. I told AHS that and they sent me information for one company. When I called the company, they never sent the request in. I asked them if I could get reimbursed if I was to get it fixed from someone else. They told me I couldn't, and if I do it, I would just going to be out of money.
The company that was sent out was very professional and attentive. But they couldn't get what needed replaced. They scheduled it for later. The lady called me back and said that they would make sure that they would come first thing in the morning. The people came in the next morning and did it. I spoke to at least five people before this service could even be performed. The last person I spoke to was the only person that treated me with dignity and respect.

AHS called to arrange things and then I received text messages with each service follow-up. I also got text messages as a reminder when Sun Services was coming out and when they were en route. When they were done, I got a final text message to let me know that they had considered the job complete. Sun repaired some ductwork in my crawlspace because I was not getting good airflow to my master bathroom. With it being winter and me not getting much heat in my bathroom, it was freezing in there.
The techs acknowledged themselves. I greeted them and invited them in. They asked where my problem was and where my crawlspace was. From there, they did their thing without being super loud. I was able to continue working. When they were done, they gave me an update. They also notified me of stuff that wasn't tied to heating itself and that my dryer vent had been disconnected. When they came back, they detailed what they did for the repairs. Everything has been functioning much better since then. This has made my home a lot more comfortable.

My kid put the aquarium rocks down the garbage disposal so it clogged up. I liked how when I got ready to do the claim, AHS had a video to show me how to fix it. But I couldn't find my Allen wrench set and I needed it to be fixed quite badly. I called and made the claim. I was very satisfied because it didn’t take them long and Red Dragon, the contractor, came out the next day. The plumber used a teaser, just like in the video that they had, and the service took him two minutes.

The guy who Home Shield sent me was great. He was very professional, got to what it was, told me what the issue was with it. He took care of it in a short period of time. And I liked him. He was honest. He told me that it looks as if I may need one soon. There was a lot of sediment in the bottom of it. He cleared that out. And he just said just based on the age of it, it looked like there could be a possibility of me needing one in the future. But for the meantime, it’s still working in creating hot water for me. He rectified the issue. It was making this banging noise. I've heard it once or twice, but nothing like how it was.
My previous experiences have been good. I was a little disappointed last year. I had to have some work done to my air conditioning, and I ended up having to pay out of pocket for a larger portion of what I anticipated. That was a bit of a disadvantage. But other than that, I mention Home Shield to my friends and daughters. Like, “I have a warranty, and that helps me out tremendously.” I’m a woman alone in a home so it’s helpful to have that. It’s an older home as well. So, I'm grateful for it. I would recommend it for homeowners. It's a definite plus.
Thanks for sharing you experience and thanks for recommending us.

Our dryer was tumbling, but not putting out any heat. I put the request in online on a Wednesday and submitting it was easy. For the initial visit, the technician came out to look at the dryer on the 23rd and that was the week of Thanksgiving. I knew we wouldn't get much of anything done during that week because of the holiday. The technician was here for close to two hours trying to diagnose the issue and make sure he wasn't picking the wrong thing that was wrong with it. Once he figured out and narrowed down what the problem was, he ordered the parts.
I didn't expect to hear anything from anybody over the holiday weekend, but I got a call during the weekend and not during business hours to let me know the parts came in. I was scheduled to have my dryer fixed Tuesday, but they were able to come out Monday and resolve the problem. It's working now. Our technician was awesome. He was very good at explaining what the issue was and why it was causing the problem, and then fixed it very quickly once the parts came in. His manner was very good too.
If I could offer any areas of opportunity for American Home Shield to improve though, it would be a matter of getting people out a little more quickly based on the necessity of the type of issue that it is. Not everyone washes clothes every day, but we have a small baby at home, so they require more laundry than average. Being without the ability to dry our clothes when it was getting winter temperatures is less than convenient. We've used American Home Shield for several years between two properties that we own. Even with air conditioners, sometimes it's several days before people are dispatched to the house and then there's an additional wait till the parts come in.

CNJ Services came out because I had a leaky toilet, and it was covered underneath my American Home Shield. When the first guy came out, he shut the toilet off and changed the gasket in there. But he left the floor wet. They don't have preps to where they put down stuff. So I had rags on the floor, and he used those to wipe everything up, and I cleaned those up myself. They should have their own disposable mat when they come into people's houses. Then within less than 24 hours, the toilet was still leaking. So the second guy came out. He put caulking around my toilet. Then he put the little covers back on because the first guy took those covers off. Both of them wore shoe covers, which is good. They took them off when they were going back and forth to the car.
At this point, I would not recommend American Home Shield because I was told that the first people that was coming up to my house was going to come when I was unable to be at home. A lot of people don't work, but I work. I told the guy that they'd have to come out after 3 o'clock and he said that I should not have changed that appointment. But I didn't make the appointment yet. The fan was broken. We paid the $75 service charge for the fan and the tech came and said it was a broken motor. In Home Shield's policy, it says that they will replace it with something similar. When it came down to it, they would not replace it so the tech called me and he said, “We're just going to cash it out.” I said, “Okay, then they should send me a check for whatever.” It was much less than the fan costs, but whatever. But the electrician was fine. He was nice. He said he’s $75 an hour. I said, “Sure. I just could have paid you for your time and it would have been awash.”
Then I called Home Shield up to get the money. And they went, “Oh, no. You have to have your electrician come back and pay him again to install it. And we have to use our fan. They won't install your fan.” It made no sense. I’d never use Home Shield. I tried to cancel, but I had to wait too long on the phone so I didn't cancel it, but I would have.
It’s not our first time. We've had a policy similar to this before. I had a microwave that broke. It was $1,000 and the company just sent me a check. On the other hand, Home Shield won't send you a check. You have to send them a copy of the receipt. And then you have to send them that the electrician installed it. If you're cashing it out, and you’re only giving me $175, then just send me a check and let me do what I want. That's what they should have done. Don't give them a whole story that they have to do this and they have to give you a receipt for what they bought. And then a receipt from the electrician. By that time, I don't want to be bothered. I would never use that company. I have no money out of it. We had to buy a new fan, which was $350. I would have taken them to small claims court. I'm sure I would have won because they said comparable but it would not be.
The Realtor pays $1,000 for this contract. And if something does break, it's supposed to be comparable. I get on a refrigerator, they only pay up to $3,000. So why would I even want them again? I would never want them again. I don't know who their competition is. Because when I googled it online, there isn't that much competition. But theirs is dreadful. They don't stand by their warranty and they don't make it easy for the consumer to get reimbursed.

If I got other issues besides just a repair, I've got to go through this appliance purchase and I can't get in touch with American Home Shield on the phone. They were going to replace my dryer because they cannot find the board for it. It’s obsolete. They gave me 1,100 and some odd dollars but the rep didn't send me the link to do order the appliance through AHS because she said they were all on backorder till December. I was calling the appliance number but I can't get through. I sit on hold for two hours and nobody ever comes to the phone. I've tried for days.
But I know a lot of the issues are because of the situation we're all in at the current moment. Everybody is working from home and everybody's back to doing everything. I know that contributes to a lot of it. Other than that, AHS answers the phone pretty quickly when you have a repair and they do come in. The first time that Island Breeze HVAC came over, the guy said that our motor was out and he replaced that. There were different settings to it and he fixed it and then left. Then when the system went on, it felt like the whole ceiling of the master bedroom was rocking like the Marines in the field doing the bombs, and that was outside. I could actually hear it on the side of the house next to my neighbors. They looked at me and asked what that was and I told them that was the repair that they did for my AC system.
I called them and this time, two of them came back. They went upstairs and said they had it on the wrong setting. Apparently, they said they fixed it and left. We left and got back home that evening and it was 57 degrees downstairs. I got the ladder and went up and it wasn't working! I talked to the lady and she said that I would have to call it in. I said that this was twice already! She still said that I would have to call so I called American Home Shield again. They went through the tape. The guy came back with an extra motor just in case and said that normally, they get bad motors. He asked me to come up there. He told me that he didn't tighten those plastic caps on the two wires at the ends together. It was his fault and he was sorry about that, and so I don’t need any motor. Everything is functioning right now at the moment.
The only thing I don't like about it is that when they leave your house and they just fixed your system two, three hours and you have to call in for them to come back, they would be back the next week. It's just a total turnoff. If they came out, why can’t they come and say that that they could fix this. Then you have to schedule to go back to the same people within the next 7 to 10 days. It was terrible.
AHS is great. Every time I call in, they get on it. and like they said, within 24 hours, I'm gonna have a phone call and it always happens just like that without fail, which I love. As far as the work is concerned, I've had no issue with Island, ‘cause this is the second time they came out here for two issues. One was last year and they took care of it. Then this is the first time that my downstairs AC or heat central had issues. But the way they did it, how they dealt with us being the people that needed the service, they hesitated. They came and did what they did. Then they couldn't get back to us as they got another priority when the priority should have been the people that they fixed earlier. If there were issues, they should address those issues before moving on or get done with the next service, turn around, and go back.

But I had the same issue in another house and the price went up to $1,300. Also, they say that they cover dishwashers. When their people came over there, they didn't. I had to buy a new one. They have seven rental properties of mine. Why is it that I'm paying all this money every month when they don't cover anything? I was upset about that and I ended up doing most of the work myself. My brother and I were talking about canceling them this month.
When I talk to an individual about submitting a claim, either they don't understand or they're not talking English. I would ask to speak to a supervisor to get some clarification but it's always, "There's no supervisor." For a company that big that's taking so many people's money, there should be somebody to talk to.

Sometimes things get missed in translation from the electrician to the warranty company. Home Shield could do better on the communication between the tradespeople that go out and do the work and Home Shield on the process. The tradespeople need to know more on, “Hey, here's the next steps.” Obviously with COVID, it’s tough with call centers. It's cost-effective. I use ISAs, and the Philippines, too. I got an email saying that it had been submitted. I was assigned to Doug’s Rooter and they would be in contact with me. There wasn't even a lag with the person involved. So, it's great. Within 24 hours, the rooter service reached out to me and scheduled, and they were out the next day. The technician was good and I didn't see a bill.

I contacted American Home Shield and then Sundance Service gave me a call. The rep kind of threw me off at first. He wasn't the most professional. But the person who came out, Jeremy, was above and beyond professional and was really nice and quick. I was kind of afraid of having a male, who I've never met before, come into the house to do work but he was really courteous. It was a great experience and I'd recommend AHS. It’s worth it and I’m very happy that we did it.

The electrician was really nice and very professional. He did his job and got out of there. It's performing pretty well since the repair. But my claim prior to this was horrible. It took almost a month for me to get my furnace fixed. I live in Wisconsin and it's cold here. So, I had to do a whole month without heating because they had to order the part. I was dissatisfied. American Home Shield is a great deal. It's easy to put in orders and get in contact with them. But I'm not really happy with how they go about the service part of it. They use third-party people that don't work on the weekends and close early at 5:00.

American Home Shield has been great. But years before, they were not. I had trouble with them with getting back to me and relaying stuff. But this year has been much better. I've only had to do one call. Then it was the same guy who came the last two years for the same thing, which was very smart on their part to send. I thought I had a leak. I called and Grade A Plumbing was sent out. The guy explained what happened and it wasn't actually a leak. I have copper pipes. When he used the hot water in that particular faucet, which was upstairs, the copper pipe expanded and it made a tapping noise, which sounded like a drip-drip noise. American Home Shield is efficient as far as sending someone out. Since I'm a new member, I'm having a little confusion about what's covered and what's not. I really need more information about that. There is simplicity in the explanation where it can be interpreted any way you want to benefit yourself. I'm dissatisfied with them.

We had crackling and popping in our breaker box and it was nice to know that we could just call and have American Home Shield take care of that. An electrical company came out and that was perfect. But we had an issue with a claim. The plumbers were great with our water heater but there was a follow-up visit with another company that was to replace drywall and do patching of the drywall that had to be removed in order to do the plumbing. I was not a fan of that company.
They came out to do an initial job - patchwork and everything that they did sunk in. It wasn't actually patching the drywall. They were saying they're gonna come back the following day to fill in. But I did not trust the company. The representative that came out was not professional and I was uncomfortable with him being in the home. My husband was even here. I was not upset when they did not follow through with coming out the following day to complete the job. But I still have a hole in my wall.
That was the only time we did not have a good experience with American Home Shield and their subcontractors. Every interaction that I had ever had has been great and the customer service is outstanding. I get follow-up when I'm told I'm going to get follow-up and there's transparency whenever it comes to communication. Our contract came up for renewal and right now with COVID, everyone's really tightening up on things but this is one investment that my husband and I were like, “Oh, absolutely. We're definitely going to renew this.”

He sorted the problem very simply, and then gave me a quote for improving the system to modify a problem that existed. Fortunate it wasn't a critical situation, but there was a very long wait for them to come out. I expected 48 hours, but not a week. But the tech I've used before for the fridge freezer, they were out in 48 hours and it was fine.

The water flooded in my bathrooms because the lines were stopped up. The first time, American Home Shield sent a guy out and he spent a little bit of time. He cleaned it out and a few days later, it started up again. A week later, it flooded to four inches inside my shower and it started overflowing into the bathroom. We stopped it in time before it hit our wood floors. I told the lady and they were going to send back the same guy that didn't do that great job. I said, "No. You normally send Parlier Plumbing." They're local and that guy that came last time is from like an hour away. She said, "Okay, I'll send Parlier Plumbing out." Parlier Plumbing came and they brought a machine to clean it out this time. That must have gone through the system and flushed it out. We haven't had any trouble since. Parlier Plumbing was very professional. They've done real well every time they've come here for whatever reason that has to do with anything plumbing.
All of a sudden I got a bill from Parlier which I wrote back and said that was under our American Home Shield policy. I haven't heard from them on that. Other than that, everything's been very good with American Home Shield. They've always sent decent people over here except for the last time with the guy up there. He used a method that wasn't as good as Parlier Plumbing. In fact, even in talking to them, they said that if this problem happens again, they could run a camera and see where this is happening. I've never heard that before that you could put a camera inside the lines.

American Home Shield has pretty good service people. I was having issues with the dryer, the washer, and the kitchen range. They fixed all of those. The tech said the kitchen range had a big opening where the heat came out. Since the service, the appliance has been operating pretty good. The only thing with American Home Shield is sometimes you have to get in after them because the service people forget to come out then they forget to get in contact with the person or whoever they're supposed to get in contact with to come out here and do the fix. That's the problem. If someone is coming out, they should keep calling you until they get you instead of calling you one time or two times. A lot of seniors like me can't hear that well. A lot don't even do any email.

J & A was wonderful. They fixed both of my problems immediately. I also called to get service for my stove. I told the people who came exactly what the problem was. They sent somebody out who had no parts. They announced the problem, which I already knew and then they said, “We have to leave ‘cause we don't have the part.” That was yesterday and Thanksgiving is Thursday. I said, “Wait a minute. Why didn't you come with the part?” He said, “Well, we have to diagnose it first.” Then, with great difficulty, I've been trying to get ahold of American Home Shield since that representative left. I need my stove for Thanksgiving like everybody else. It took me until this morning to get ahold of them. The rep said, “Well, they have to send in the diagnosis first. We have to approve it. And then we can do something about it.”
I said, “What do you mean you have to wait for the diagnosis to come in? J & A didn't have to wait for a diagnosis. They came and fixed it.” She said, “That's our policy. They have to send in the diagnosis first.” I said, “This is ridiculous. First of all, anybody can do it over the phone immediately or send an email immediately. It can be done immediately.” I was unhappy and I told her I was unhappy and why. Then she said, “Well, that has to be done and we can't do anything until that happens.” This is just running me in circles and I'm extremely unhappy with American Home Shield.
I just bought the house November 4th. Everything's broken. I was extremely pleased with J & A who came out immediately, fixed everything quickly and efficiently. Then American Home Shield sent somebody else out for the stove that didn't know what they were doing and didn't have the parts when they were told ahead of time what the problem was. I explained that the oven door didn’t close. The arm of the oven door is obviously bent, and they came unprepared. Then American Home Shield told me, “Well, they have to send in the diagnosis before we can approve it.” They have to approve it.

The fan wasn't working outside and Harper’s Heating and Cooling was the new company that American Home Shield sent. They had been sending Myers because we got kind of used to them. But I found Harper to be very professional and very timely. The tech worked us in and told us that they were going to be heading up this direction going farther north, but that they would stop on their way. I thought that was wonderful. That was the first time for them to come and assess the issue, and then the second time, once he got the part, we had a doctor's appointment. He called us, as promised and said that they would let us know when they were headed this way. I told him, “Unfortunately, we had left.” He said, “Not a problem. I can control what I'm doing from outside.” When we got back home from the doctor, he had hooked up the fan and the AC was working and blowing better than ever.
Unfortunately, when it rains, it pours. Right after the air went out, my washer had an issue. Now, my washer was another story. The company that AHS called to fix my washer came out and the guy said it was one thing. I told him exactly what the washer was doing, and he assessed what he thought it was and did that. For a few days, after he did what he said it was, that didn't work. As a matter of fact, they have yet to come back out and bring the part. So, I'm having an issue with this company that’s handling it. As a matter of fact, I have to call them. They ordered what he thought the part was, and he called back and said, “Well, I have the part now. Are you at home?” I said, “No, we're not at home. Can you make us your last stop and we'll be back home.” He said, “Yes, ma'am.” He never did come back. I've got to call him now to see where he is with the part. So, that’s a little aggravating.
As far as contacting American Home Shield, you wait too long on hold. That is very frustrating. Everybody's not going to do everything online. Some of us still want to call and speak to a live person. Even the contractor that was calling for my water heater that’s on out was on hold forever just to get an approval for the part for my water heater. That was what they told me. Coverage is up in the air because some things that you think are covered are not. But overall, with them paying and some of the contractors they have, I would definitely recommend AHS. I think they just need to do a better job with some of the contractors. But the Harper's guy was top-notch. I've been pleased with AHS. We've had them now for over 10 years. I'm comfortable with them.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

My recent claim to Home Shield was for my bathroom. The toilet was running, the bathroom sink was stopped up, and the tub was stopped up. On November 4th, two gentlemen came from C Mayes to unstop the sink and tub, and to stop the toilet from running. They stopped the toilet from running. They put something down the drain in the tub and told me, "Don’t turn the water on for four hours." I left to make an errand, came back to give the baby a bath, and the water is still sitting in the tub and not going out at all. The sink was the same way. So, I called that evening. They said they would send a message to Mayes. That evening, the rep said, “I will let them know and we'll get back to you.” I never heard anything.
Finally, I called them a week later to ask them what happened. They didn't come out. They didn't call me back. So they made an appointment. They sent another gentleman, and he was perfect. He got the job done. The water is running freely in the tub and the sink. The first two gentlemen spent under seven minutes in the bathroom. Then when they came out, they said, “Yes, we finished. We good like that.” I said, okay. But the water didn't run freely at all. It was as bad as it was when they came here.
I'm a little disappointed with American Home Shield because that same night I called, they told me they would get to the plumber and get back to me, and they never got back to me. I had to call them back. So I was a little disappointed in that because I've dealt with American Home Shield before, and my experience was okay.

A year ago, we had a leak in our utility room that was serious 'cause it was spraying water out of the pipe. The techs were supposed to come but they went to service other customers so they didn't come to us until very late in the day. I called Home Shield a few times to track them down because they weren't responding. The dispatchers were trying to call and they couldn't find them. So, they gave me the cellphone number of the plumbers. They fixed the leak eventually and it stopped so the work was done well. The plumbers came again recently for a sump pump and that was fine.
The techs sent by AHS tend to not wear shoe covers. That should be a mandatory thing when they go into a customer's home because they can track mud. For the sump pump claim, there were no issues with the cleanliness of the work, and things were left fine. We've had refund issues and wrong quotes with AHS but they cover things. It's convenient for us to use them so we'll keep doing that.

They were very polite and went straight to work. I have no problems with the representatives that have arrived at my house. I love the process of submitting a claim to AHS. Whenever I discovered that something's not operable, I pick up my laptop or my tablet, and I'm able to submit my claim online. We were not getting any heat from the furnace. It would turn on for about five seconds and then, it would turn right off. The tech said it was a sensor. The filter wasn't cleaning up for the heating to come through it, so it would click in and automatically shut it off. So, he took the filter down. I thought for our insurance, he would put a new one in but he didn't. He said we needed to go to the store and get another one and put it in there or clean the one we had. But other than that, he said he did something with the sensor. He was pleasant but I’m a little disappointed because we thought he was supposed to put another filter in for us.
The claims process was excellent. We needed it done and the tech came. He could have come sooner but I didn't pick up when he called the first time because they had a cancellation. Still, it was quick enough for him to come over when he did. It was right on the day and maybe he wasn't even a half hour late. The experience with American Home Shield was good. I filed a claim for my sump pump for my house. AHS said that the claim wasn't covered. I looked at my policy and it was supposed to be covered. I called back a couple of times. In the end, I paid for it and got it fixed myself. I don't think that that was fair to me, especially for having the policy. I wish somebody would give me some answers on that. I'm really disappointed. When I had little things happen, AHS sent someone right on out. But the big things are what's really the problem when those have to be fixed or covered. No one expects to have those issues but if you have them and they're not covered, what's the point in having the plan with AHS?
I did my claim online. With the previous one, I kept calling as well after nothing was really getting done. When it was my microwave, AHS got right on it. But when it was my sump pump, which was something that was detrimental and that was a really big ordeal, I got the runaround about it. It's odd that no one ever got back with me or told me why my claim wasn't covered when it clearly states it in my policy. That's been since about February. I feel like that's how they operate where after a while of calling and no one gets back with you, you would just give up.
It’d be great for somebody to research that and to let me know something. We couldn’t use the bathroom and we couldn’t take a shower because the sump pump is what pumps the sewage out to the street. Therefore, if the pump was out and it wasn't coming on, you couldn’t continue to run the water and everything in the house for the fear of it backing up into the house. That was a big ordeal. I had a newborn baby here and had to get a hotel room for a couple of days. I also stayed with my mom for a couple of days.

I had an ongoing issue with my refrigerator and American Home Shield sent the same company out about five separate times but I wasn't satisfied with the service from that particular company. Then I had running water in my toilet. It would just run it periodically throughout the day and night. For this instance with the plumber, he did a real good job. He's the best person that they've ever sent out. They answered all the questions that I had. He wasn't trying to sell me a bag of goods. He just offered that there were other things that they could do if I'd need them. They were definitely top-notch.
There are some pluses and minuses to American Home Shield. The online claims process is pretty user-friendly. But I'd pay 70 bucks a month and then I gotta pay 75 when someone would come out. So I would recommend shopping around and see there may be someone that provides that equal or pretty comparable level of service and has a cheaper monthly rate. Also, be careful with the contractors that they're sending out 'cause some have been really good and the other ones have been below average.

I feel good about American Home Shield when I use it. My only concern is that the item has to be totally broke in a way that it’s not working for them to come out and fix it. I have times when there's an item that is pretty close to being broke and it's an item that I really don't want to go without, because it does take about two to three days to get somebody out here. If they can scoop up their service so that if it's something that looks like it's obviously going to break, or stop working, that they can work on that before it's totally shot. Other than that, I've used American Home Shield twice now in the six years that I've been here and it works fine. I call up and put in the claim. Then they get ahold of us or they send me the name of a repair person, and then I call them, and then we set up an appointment. And it gets done.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

I noticed that my water heater was leaking, and I thought, “Oh my god, now I need a new water heater.” I tried calling in, and the wait time was too long, so Home Shield mentioned on the phone that you could make the request online, so I made it online. It was a much more smoother process. Home Shield sent a contractor to check it out and they said it wasn't the water heater. It was just the pressure relief valve on the water heater was failing. So, they replaced that, and it was like new again. The tech had his mask on while he was working. He came in, he saw what was wrong right away and fixed it, then went away.
Since I signed up with Home Shield, I’ve had three claims, and they fixed everything that they said they would fix. It’s a valuable service that they provide. You just never know when something's gonna go wrong. I'm already retired on social security, so to have a major repair, you feel a lot more at ease with having the Home Shield cover your home and appliances.

Submitting a claim through the phone with AHS is not easy. I have to wait. But submitting through the website is just perfect. I submitted a claim recently and the tech handled it very well. I was very satisfied with their response. They went out of the way to get these parts that they needed. I haven't seen anybody with that kind of customer-friendly. That was definitely the best I've seen among all of the different ones that I've used.

AHS was offering the option to fine-tune my air conditioning for the next season. The first group of techs found that I needed to replace something about the coil. Because of it, I kept having to get my Freon added in my thing outside. So they came and they went upstairs and replaced whatever that coil is. The techs were really good. I worked with them before on issues I have with my air conditioning and they came out and fixed whatever the issue was. The AC's been operating fine. It's just starting to make a really loud noise and I'm not sure what that is. So I put it in a request to have them come out and investigate that loud noise. But I had such good results using American Home Shield that's why I've kept them this long. My cousin is in the process of purchasing a home and I've already recommended AHS to them.

Submitting a claim is easy now because you can just do it online and then you get the callback. In the summer, if my air conditioning goes out, that is more frustrating just because it takes a bit longer to get somebody out. But they always do their best with trying to fix things. Our house is under contract. During the inspection, they found a leak on part of the water heater, one of the pipes. The guys came out and fixed it, and they were quick and nice. They wore masks. And the water heater is in the garage, so they kept their distance. I like Home Shield. They have been able to repair everything that we've called them about.

We have a water heating unit in our lower-level basement and it wasn't working. A tech got to come over because what he thought he needed wasn't going to work on ours. He needed to come back the next day, check it out, see what was going on, and why he couldn't get what he wanted to get. He talked to AHS about it to let them know about the part he was initially looking for and he tried to order. AHS said, “Nope.” The tech is coming back to see what exactly he can do. He's been very good at communicating and that's spot on.
Our washing machine went out on the 9th of November and a tech was here on the 10th of November. AHS got the information. At that point when I called, they said I had to wait. They would know by the 21st which was Saturday but that didn't happen. On Friday, I called and waited for two hours. I spoke to Derek after two hours of waiting and he said he had to check on a couple of things. He asked if I wanted to wait and hold for 10 minutes or if I wanted him to call me back. I told him that I gotta go to the cemetery and if he could call me on the way there, that would be fine. I never got a call back from Derek.
We got home and I called and waited another two hours. I got Lakeisha who was super nice and very helpful. It was frustrating with Derek. He had no notes on my account but Lakeisha made up for it so she did an awesome job. She got things resolved and told me that I got approval. She said that I could buy my own washing machine because it was going to take longer. As it was, we were not going to get a washing machine until December 1st which was quite a ways out, but we're getting one so I'm not going to complain because that's not right.
The reason for the timeline could be the application purchasing on AHS' end. I know there's a pandemic and that plays into it too like being short-staffed. But the two-hour wait is a long time. I just left AHS on hold. If anyone asked, I would definitely say to go with AHS. We just bought this house and we bought the warranty. It's been a lifesaver. I really appreciate everything AHS does.

He knew what the problem was right away and fixed it right away. So, that was awesome. Doing claims with American Home Shield is easy. I usually use the online option because it's a little faster. Sometimes, you have to wait a little bit on the phone. It's pretty easy online, just fill out the form and then someone will usually call you the next day quickly. Usually, problems seem to happen at night.
It seems like the contractor will call right the next day. And if not, AHS always gives you the number. If it's an issue that is a dire need, the contractors usually get back to you quickly. AHS has been pretty good so far. I've had quite a few issues like the dishwasher, vent hood, small things, the dryer and the washing machine. I feel like everything that can go wrong has gone wrong. It seems like they always know what to do no matter who they send out. It's worth it. I enjoy it a lot.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

It takes so long to get ahold of American Home Shield when you're calling in. It's all pre-recorded instead of getting ahold of a real person where you can say, "I'm getting my air conditioning replaced so I need to cash out." The cost is also going up and it is a little insane but we pay it because it's a good gig. It works. My hot water heater went out about three months ago, and it ended up being a thermostat issue. The techs were here the next afternoon to fix it, they got it fixed, and there was no charge other than the $100 deductible. Then, about two weeks ago, the same water heater went out again. The same crew came out, had it fixed in about an hour, and they left. My house is seven years old now. I was thinking, “If something like the air conditioning went out, can I afford to get it fixed?” In Texas, you need to get it fixed as soon as possible. So I thought for that price, my American Home Shield warranty is well worth my while.

The first thing Max Cool Air Conditioning worked on was the drainpipe that got clogged up. They got it all unclogged and they worked very hard at it. The guy said to me, “Do a cup of bleach then do a couple of cups of warm water. Pour it real slow and let it go down there once a month.” They left but the problem was the air handler wasn't communicating with the thermostat properly. When I would ask the thermostat to give me heat a certain degree, I couldn't get any heat. It was the same thing with the cold. So, I called and this was Thanksgiving Day. Lance called me back that afternoon which I was surprised about because normally, it's the next business day if it's a holiday. He was very helpful. He said, “I'll have somebody out there tomorrow morning.” At 11 o'clock, Robert showed up.
There was a break in one of the tubes that carried the freon. That had gone unnoticed because we weren't looking for that. All the freon had run out. Whenever I’d asked it to cool, it didn't have anything to cool so it wouldn’t cool. They put the freon back in, sealed the hole, and it's been working great. Robert went above and beyond in doing a favor for me and helping me get my thermostat squared away so that I had only one temperature to worry about. If I wanted it higher than that, I could and it would stay there until I changed it. Max Cool had done an excellent job. I would have them back in a heartbeat.
American Home Shield saved my life. They always send me an email indicating that a vendor has been assigned and I should expect a call. They also give me the name and the number of the vendor. It couldn't do any better than that. We had had them early on when we bought this house back in 2001. My husband is handy so he was fixing everything and we decided not to go ahead with American Home Shield. He got sick so I went ahead and signed up for it for the items that I thought were important for us to cover. The premium is so reasonable. When this air conditioning thing happened, he was not feeling very well and was worried about the cost. I told him, “Guess what? Your wife went against your wishes this one time and she's got American Home Shield coming.” He was thrilled.

They were great and they stayed in touch with me a lot. American Home Shield did really good. But when I kept calling and asking them if the part was on backorder, they just said that it was out for order and that was two and a half weeks from the time that I had called them out. We'll have to find out who's available in your area." He said it could be up to two weeks and my mom said it has never been like that. She asked if she could call the company directly and tell them that she was putting an order in through American Home Shield. He said, "You can't do that," and I get that, but he wasn't offering a solution. I told my mom to ask to talk to a supervisor then she can tell the supervisor that it's the only company that comes.
At first, the guy said she couldn't talk to a supervisor and then he said he'd write it down. It was weird. The guy was giving her the runaround. My mom was mad and she wanted to cancel this company. She’s called in the past, and she said it was different than it normally was. I don't know if American Home Shield's call centers have changed. Everywhere you call these days, it's outsourced and that's fine. However, when somebody's been with the company and they know what they're doing and all they want to do is tell you that the one company is the one that does it, I get it. That guy is probably not trained to do that. I get that too. To not be transferred to a supervisor or somebody to tell though, that's not okay.
At some point, we all have a job that's beyond our scope. If it was beyond the rep's scope, then there had to be someone that my mom could talk to. She also couldn't understand the guy at all and I had to eventually take the phone. He was hard to understand. She was not happy, so she said "Cancel the work order." She figured out how to do it online and she had a good experience. I was here. The repairman was great. He has been here before, so he remembered my mom. He got right to work and he had the hood up and running. It turns out, the issue was only a loose wire, and we were very relieved and happy. It was an easy fix and he was super nice and professional. Review is for my dealings with the AHS corporate HQ only, not the contractors. I just closed on an older house and received a 2-year AHS home warranty as part of the closing. Due to a clerical error, the start date for the coverage was set to begin in 2021, rather than 2020. So, when I tried to file a service request during the first month of coverage, it was invalid. It took 4 calls over 2 hours and 45 minutes of explaining my situation and waiting on hold to reach someone who could help me fix this simple mistake. When it was finally corrected, the agent told me my coverage was now in effect retroactive to the original start date.
When I pointed out that I hadn't actually been covered during that time, and would like my coverage to start that day instead, the agent just shrugged it off. I appealed, stating that I had spent almost 3 hours on the phone trying to fix this and was not asking for a rebate, but rather a correct start date, she was short with me and said I could call her supervisor if I wanted to... Nothing more. Needless to say, we haven't gotten off to a great start. We'll see how the service calls go...
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you.Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us.
