The heater in our house went out. My wife put in an online work order and A-US Air Conditioning of Texas called the same day. They were at our place on Monday and they provided excellent service. The tech repaired the heater and I got a good temperature in my home instead of being really cold. The heater has been working perfectly since they have been out.

I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and just to make sure it went through, I called and their reps verified that everything had gone through. They told me the name of the company that would be calling me. That went very smoothly. Warhold Mechanicals was fantastic. They came right out at the time that they called and went to work. The techs loved the dogs even though the dogs were annoying and they were very friendly. They worked until the job was completed 100% and then cleaned up. AHS is very easy to use. You should invest in it.

I’m not happy with American Home Shield. I'm pregnant and I have a baby, and they let us go without hot water throughout the whole house for seven days. It was the worst experience ever. Our water heater was old and corroded and it stopped working. So we called American Home Shield the second it went out and they said that we were covered. Then they just stopped talking. There was no communication for three days. This should have been fixed that Saturday but instead, it was fixed just today.
It turned out that I had to approve an extra charge because I wouldn't be covered for something that was mandatory. I had to call American Home Shield to approve that so they could order the part and be put into the company instead of them calling me that same day and telling me that. American Home Shield didn't tell Home Choice what they needed and they didn't order the parts on time, and they didn't tell them where to go. They told Home Choice to go to Lowe's when it was at Home Depot. So it wasn't Home Choice's fault. They did as good of a job as they could have done.
Alexa,
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Robert and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

Our fuse box is 30 plus years old and we have issues with fuses popping frequently. I feel like the fuse box needs to be updated but the guy said that's not an issue that American Home Shield will cover. All he did was rearrange a few things in the fuse box and called it a day. We also called AHS 15 days ago for our furnace and it is still out. They sent out a company that checked it and diagnosed the problem. They said they ordered a part and we're still waiting on them to come back with the part to fix it. We've had some pretty cold temperature here on Ohio and it makes it a little difficult trying to stay warm in your house whenever the temperatures are down around zero. AHS could improve on their customer service. You can't get ahold of a human at all. If you need to talk to somebody about an issue, you got to go through their computer-generated process and it takes forever to try to get anything accomplished with that thing.
We do apologize for the inconvenience and your work was not properly done. It is not our intent to cause a difficult experience related to your repairs. We do appreciate you for sharing your experience, and allowing us assist. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

I was a little bit disappointed with American Home Shield. I called and scheduled an appointment for my air conditioners to be serviced. They scheduled for someone to come out, and when the young man came, he discovered that we had two air conditioners. Nobody told him anything about that. He only changed the filter on one of my air conditioners and said that I would have to make another call for him to come out again. I called and the lady said that she'd schedule me and let them know that I needed another person to come out and do that. I told the guy while he was here that American Home Shield already put in a work order for him to come back. I called American Home Shield back again because I didn’t hear anything, and I talked to a guy that sounded like an Indian.
I had another conversation with the people from the place that had the technician come out. The lady said they didn't have any record that American Home Shield had requested that they come back out to put the filter in the second one. They didn't do anything except to make sure that the air conditioner is working. She asked me if the one I talked to the second time I called had an accent. I said yes. Then she said that AHS had them contracted out to somewhere else. I just told her to forget about it. I would just see if I could get somebody else. The only thing that the guy would do is change the filter anyway and I would sure hate to have to pay $75 again for somebody to put that one.
My husband and I are elderly. We can't go out and put the air conditioner filter in. I was excited about the fact that American Home Shield offered the service that they would come and check the air conditioners and do that that was why I called them. I've never had any problems prior to this experience so this was just a situation where I was not satisfied. It seems like there's no communication across the board there. The lady from the people that were supposed to come said that American Home Shield assumed I read my contract. I can't blame them for me not knowing everything on there.
Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs. Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

My boss filed a claim on the phone for a water leak from the copper pipe from the water heater. I had to follow up on it for her a couple of times. I was with her when Reliable Plumbing came. They inspected the situation and said that it was definitely a leak. They went out, got their tools, came in, and started to work. They cut part of the pipe where it was leaking and replaced that. They said goodbye and thank you very much. It's working well. She was very happy with the plumbing company. At least there were two young men and so she thought that they might be too young to know what was going on. But evidently, they knew how to do the work.

There was a leak on the pipe inside of the wall where the water heater is. Ark La Flow came out and they diagnosed what the problem was. The first time they came, they thought it was stopped up. The guy couldn't find it, but he had it where someone else came because I had to call back and tell them that it was still leaking. Immediately, they sent someone back and that person kept working until he found what the problem was, which was inside of the wall. They fixed that and they got it completed, but filled out a claim for someone to come and fix the drywall once they were done. Someone came out today to fix the drywall and I just got a text from them a few minutes ago letting me know that they had completed the job.
Everything is good. I was thoroughly impressed with Ark La Flow. They were very professional, extremely timely and always gave me a heads-up when they were on their way. It was always early morning, which worked well for me. It was the same thing with the people who came to do the drywall today. They stayed in constant contact. This whole experience turned out to be okay. We thought we had a serious problem. It was serious enough, but we were assured the repair people will find what the problem was and get it fixed. American Home Shield was great.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

Communication has been difficult or nonexistent. When I call American Home Shield for updates or answers, they're not able to give me any information. The reps keep me on hold for a long period of time while they're trying to figure things out. Also, I would like reps to be able to speak English. I can tell that they don't understand what I'm saying 'cause they just keep repeating the same thing no matter what question I have and that's very frustrating.
We submitted a claim and Knight Heating & Air Conditioning came and did an inspection. The tech said that there was a crack and I needed a new furnace. I got a call yesterday from the service provider saying that they would be at my house at 8:30. Even though we called several times for an update, no one had talked to us about what had been approved or not approved. We were taken off-guard to know that they had already ordered our unit. American Home Shield is blaming the contractor who then says our communication should be coming from AHS. I’m gonna be looking for another provider besides American Home Shield. We've had two other ones in the past and we had no problems with them. The other provider did all the work themselves. It would be nice to deal with somebody besides AHS all the time. Our first experience with them has not been a good one and we won't be staying with them.

Our downstairs heat went out. So we figured it was the furnace. We called American Home Shield for them to come and service it or take a look. Calling in was pretty easy. The technician was very nice. He came with a mask on. I appreciated that because we have kids at the house. He just went in there, spent a little bit of time trying to figure out what was going on with it, and he was able to find the issue.
They had to come out a second time. The heat worked, and then about two days later, it stopped working. We kind of had to go two or three days without it because of the holidays. We called them to come out and they were able to schedule an appointment the same day. They came back and realized the igniter had went out. They went ahead and replaced that part. We haven't had any issues since. American Home Shield, overall, is easy to use, convenient and reliable to me.

I've had positive experiences with American Home Shield, except one being my dishwasher. It doesn't work and I need to buy another one. I've been here five years and I've lived it out. I was hoping I could get help on their end for it, but they were never able to justify it even though the repair people even said I needed it. They were able to cover it, and my plan said to cover it, but they disagreed with the multiple people and I didn’t know their reasoning. It needed to be replaced.
It was many years ago that I had a washer and dryer set that went bad and they were really supportive with that. Multiple times a person had to come out and fix something and said that they got to replace it. They weren't that way with the dishwasher. They have gotten harder to work with when it comes to replacement of products. It means a lot to me that I can have something repaired. But as far as the support of the appliances, they could do better. However, the repair I just recently had a couple weeks ago was smooth and fine. We had a stopped up sink. I submitted it online and I heard from the fellow on Sunday. He came on Monday and was very good. He took care of everything. It's all been working efficiently.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

There was a leak in the house, we had the pipe bust, and the basement was flooded as a result of the leaking. We made an initial request. When the guy came, he said that the bust wasn't inside the house and American Home Shield didn't cover it. But the effect was felt inside the house and it affected even the walls and all these things. We spent almost 4,000 fixing it. Recently, we had no heat in the house. The system stopped working. We requested service on Friday and it took three days to get it rectified, and we had a baby in the house. I had to be calling and escalating it. The contractor didn't come till about 3:00 PM on Monday. He was very cordial and got it working right then. My satisfaction was that the job was done. But it took time for him to come.

We had no heat and our unit wouldn't come on. The tech who came out was very knowledgeable. He repaired the unit and I was thrilled. I've been with AHS for 10 years and their claim process has been great. The only problem was that we had to wait a week. The first contractor that American Home Shield suggested wasn't going to be able to come out for a couple of weeks. So, I called American Shield back. Their reps were very helpful. They worked with me and assigned my claim to another contractor who got out as soon as they could. They were out in less than a week. I was very happy with the service.

I originally put in the claim for the oven back in September and there was a big mix up with the people that my wife was contacting and talking. They offered her a cash out so my wife was under the assumption that it meant they will replace the oven by paying for the oven. Nobody explained to my wife what the cash-out processes is. After I took over and I started communicating with them, I came to find out that the cash-out was only for parts and labor. So it was a mess. I pay my monthly dues every month, and if I have a problem, I expect for the problem to be fixed.
Here we are in December and about a week ago, a gentleman came out, and this oven was deemed fixable by replacing parts. So the gentleman came out and put new parts in. It worked fine while he was here. But when he left, it stopped working again. So I called back again and I requested that the gentleman come back again to figure out what the problem is. So it's a reoccurring problem. The gentleman who came out here last time called me today and said he was on his way here.
We were not even able to cook a Thanksgiving dinner and it was very upsetting to me. I had to go and buy a prepared dinner to have a Thanksgiving dinner. Without an oven for this long, I'm having to sometimes cook stuff that needs to be baked. I'm having to do it in my grill. But when my cooktop went out, they came on and said it was not repairable. It had to be replaced and it was quick. We went up and bought one from Home Depot, and I was reimbursed for that. Overall, I appreciate American Home Shield's excellence and quick response.

They had to order the part so it took a while. Then they came back a second time to install the part but something else happened or they didn't order enough parts. They ended up having to come four times and they finally got it going. They were great about it and told me what they were doing. They were very nice and professional. They came with masks and called me before they got here. The receptionist also called me and let me know that they ordered the part. When it was going to be late, she did and squeezed me in for the day that the part came in.

So, the service was great. He arrived right on time and got it handled. American Home Shield had an intuitive interface on the website. I made a service request on March 29, 2020 for heat pump shutting off. It took AHS a total of four months to replace the compressor on my heat pump after two HVAC contractors abandoned the job. The request was assigned to a third contractor who installed the compressor on July 29, 2020. I was without heat then air conditioning for a 4 month period. I had to purchase fans and portable air conditioners to keep my home at a tolerable temperature as the home is occupied by two adults in their nineties with health issues.
My heat pump failed again on December 15th. AHS sent out a contractor who evaluated the heat pump and recommended that the unit be looked at by an Ameristar certified HVAC technician due to the history of issues with the unit. The heat pump is only 3 years 4 months old. The authorizations dept refuses to send the Ameristar tech. Meanwhile, I am heating with electric space heaters. I have been a customer since 2008. I would not recommend this warranty company. Customer service is horrendous. I have spent endless hours on the phone trying to get this resolved. In addition, I was forced to spend money out of my pocket for fans, portable air conditioners and higher utility bills due to the inaction of AHS. My contract is coming up for renewal in February. I do not plan to renew my contract. I will be looking for a new warranty company.

13 days later and still waiting on AHS to approve the work to be done to fix my heat and hot water issues. No call backs from a supervisor and their standard answer is something will be done in 24-48 hours. On 12/10/20 my water heater and boiler stopped working. Temperature outside was 37 degrees and was dropping and it was expected to be in the 30s overnight.
I contacted AHS to take advantage of my home warranty and was informed that they will record my issue and someone will be in touch with me in24-48 hours. When I told them how cold it was I was informed that their policy was that they cannot send someone out as an emergency unless temperature was below 32. I explained that I lived with my two kids and my 80 year old mother. They said sorry but that was their internal policy. I asked to speak with a supervisor for approval and was told that they were busy but my name would be added to the queue and a supervisor will contact me with one 24 hours.
13 days later and I am still waiting on that supervisor to call. I was provided the name of the plumbing company that will contact me within 24-48 hours for service to come out and see what the issue was. Again this did not resolve my immediate issue with hot water or heat in the house. I was forced to get my space heaters and place them throughout the house that night so we can have some heat. Temperature overnight got to 30 degrees outside and 67 in the house with 3 heaters at max. The next day I called the plumbing company to come out and try to fix my issue.
The company sent a tech which was able to get my hot water and boiler to restart but the leak that developed due to faulty gaskets was not able to be fixed because they required authorization from AHS. My hot water and boiler continues to turn off and I have to manually restart it while still waiting on this service to be completed. The same day I called the plumbing company come out to try and fix my issue I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. AHS was quick to call me regarding this complaint. That is on 12/16/20 is when I received the call. The representative was very understanding and apologized and said that she was willing to reimburse me for the heaters which I told her I was not interested but just wanted my issue fixed. She said she will look into it and expedite the matter.
On 12/22/20 I again contacted AHS to see where things stood and see when service will be completed, at which point I was told that the authorization for approval of the work to be done was submitted on 12/20/20 (4 days after they called me to apologize) and was told that it will take 24-48 hours for it to get approved which it would have been the 22nd when I called. I asked that this is ridiculous and that this should have been done sooner. The representative said she will expedite the matter and someone will be in touch in 48 hours with me. I said that this seems to be their standard answer that everything with them to get an answer is 24-48 hours. I told them that I would be more than happy to speak with the CEO or President of their company but I am sure that will also take 24-48 hours and since I am still waiting to speak with a supervisor 13 days later I will not hold my breath.
Worst customer service ever encountered. They never seem to follow through, and the customer service standard answer is something should be done in 24-48 hours. The outsourcing for the customer service is atrocious. They never have an answer, and there is never a call back. Will see if this goes anywhere. Thank you for letting me vent.

I've had two claims to American Home Shield. The latest one was for a washing machine and the icemaker on the refrigerator. The service people came out and said that they couldn't fix it. On the washing machine, I talked to a guy on December the 10th and he told me that they were mailing us a check, and we still haven't received the check. We bought our washing machine back around the middle of November.
American Home Shield was giving us $800. We’ve paid $1,000 for it. They're supposed to be reversing the $790 something, but we still haven't received our check. They weren't able to fix the washing machine. When I called in, I said, “It's the first time we've ever had anything wrong with the washing machine.” The washing machine has been great. We've had it serviced on a regular basis. We've never had a problem with it. It's never given us a moment’s trouble. Then all of a sudden, the agitator went out. We thought it could be fixed. So, I called them out to come look at it, and they sent Sears out here.
There were two guys that came out here. They pulled it out and looked at it, and run a test on it. They said it can't be fixed. I said, “No! That's absolutely the best washing machine I've ever had.” One of the guys said, “Ma’am, we just can't get parts for it.” He called his boss and they made some phone calls and did some other things while he was here. He said, “No, ma'am, we cannot get parts for it.” They were supposed to send somebody out the next week to fix the icemaker in the refrigerator. They didn't come out. I had to call back and say somebody was supposed to come out and look at my refrigerator three weeks ago. The same time I called in about the washing machine was the same time my icemaker had went out a week or two before that. So they got a service call on both.
The first guy on the refrigerator to come fix the icemaker was gonna be a month out before he could get here. I called them back and told them what they said. Then they put another guy in charge. The guy that came out here to look at my icemaker did not come until December the 9th, and it was the first week of November when I made my call. This is how long this has been going on. I still have not heard anything. The guy that came out looked at the refrigerator and he said, “It can't be fixed. There cannot be parts for it.” This was a completely different company. He said, “I'm gonna go and make some phone calls. And I’ll call you back. I’m gonna do some searching and we'll do some researching to see if I can find some parts.” He called me back the next day and he said, “Ma'am, I am so sorry but you just cannot get parts for it. The refrigerator’s gonna have to be replaced.”
I said, “Why here at Christmastime? Why here during the holidays? This cannot be happening to me." Also, I had to put two kids in braces, then my taxes are due. I've got to pay by the 31st. Every bit of this right here at the end of the year. I have yet to hear back. He told me that he submitted everything to American Home Shield, and I should hear from them. I check my emails daily. I have not gotten any emails. I've not gotten any phone calls. Nobody has left a message. I have not gotten any text messages. Nothing.
I can't even get my money back on the washing machine. What absolutely scares me about the refrigerator is they're gonna do the same thing to me. “You go buy the refrigerator. We will reimburse you.” Then they tell you that it can take up to 15 working days to get your check. But that's not true because that didn't happen to me on my washing machine. I don't have money just sitting back. I don't know why they can't just pay for it and be done with it or give me something to order from. I'm really frustrated with them right now because that's the reason why I pay a monthly fee for the insurance. I keep up my end. I've been with them for a year in August. They go up from 50 a month to 58 a month. I didn't even question it. I've made every payment. Right now, I'm not very happy with them.

I usually get a call right away after I make my service request with American Home Shield. My recent claim was for the garbage disposal and for some frozen up levers on two different bathtubs. I got a call in no time and the young man that came took care of them quickly. I was pleased with the service. I also had American Home Shield send someone out for an oven that the circuit board was shot and for other plumbing issues not recently.

Once I submitted the claim for the heating, American Home Shield said that the contractor should contact me within 24 hours, and they literally contacted me within 24 seconds. They were good from the moment I hung up from American Home Shield to say I needed a service. They came the next day. The guy was very prompt to diagnose, and very fast to fix the problem too. So far, so good.
It's a different story when I submitted a claim for our shower knob. It’s a nightmare that has been lingering for a good six months now. There were two things that I entered at once because they were all plumbing-related. One of them was the hot water heater and long story short, I decided to go with the cash out. I'm still waiting for the plumber that I chose to come and do the work so they can give me an invoice and then submit it to American Home Shield for cash out. That same company was supposed to also fix my shower knob, which is not turning at all. So I only have one temperature water. When it’s cold, the water comes out very cold. When it's warm, the water comes out burning. So lately, I'm freezing every time I take a shower. But the company said that they were going to call the manufacturing company of the knob. I haven’t heard anything from them yet and every time I call them, they don’t answer.

The ice maker was broken. Express Appliance Services came in and said the parts were not good, so they had to order those. However, it's been three times they came here to repair it, but still, it's not working. I booked an appointment again for that and they're coming next week. Hopefully, if it gets fixed up, we'll be happy, or else, I don't know what's going to happen. American Home Shield always responds over the phone. They explain to me in a way what has to be done and pretty much, everything is clear to me. That's where we have been continuing with them. They book the things and they take the notes as well, so that's good.

The garbage disposal lasted a good while. But the inside had rotted out and the seals would not seals. That was where the water kept leaking. It was very easy to submit a claim for that and the guy from Patriot Plumbing who came out was great. He ended up replacing the garbage disposal. He did his thing and then he was gone. American Home Shield has been wonderful. I've dealt with them on a few occasions for different things. When we have something that's broken, of course, we want it to be fixed now. But when it comes to an issue that one of the appliances is as old as some of the ones I have, they have to see if they can fix the unit first and if they can't, they'll replace it. They got to check if they could find parts first. So on my end, I had to learn to have patience. But on other occasions, they've been great all the way around.

The main gear spindle broke inside our garage door opener. The unit needed to be replaced. I sent pictures to Pender because they asked, so they could show up with the right equipment or the right parts. They fixed it in an hour. It took them about two days to get to me, but it was not an emergency. They did great work and cleaned up after themselves. They even offered to take away the old garage door opener. I was very happy with their service.
When I spoke with Pender, they replaced the unit before American Home Shield gave them the authorization to do so. I was told by Pender that AHS hasn't gotten back to them, and it was his experience that that was common. So, versus making me, the customer, wait three or four more days, he would just go ahead and, in his experience, replace the part and allow the paperwork to catch up. If the subject matter expert, being the service technician, relays to AHS that a specific action needs to take place, then I don't understand why the customer has to wait while AHS either debates that with the service provider or tries to decide through a third party if that is the proper formula for the resolution. In other words, while all the A, B and C are going on, the customer is left with a defective appliance, the service should take precedence, and then the paperwork catches up.
When the homeowner calls, it's because they have an issue that needs to be attended to. Not everything is an emergency. My garage door wasn't an emergency, per se, but it could have been if I were going out of town and I didn't have a way to secure my door. That could have been an emergency. Or if I were an older person that couldn't manipulate the door and that is how I get my car out, that could have been an emergency. It should be incumbent on AHS to take the input from the service provider and go from there instead of the red tape tangling up the whole matter. Other than that, we have two homes and we have American Home Shield under each home. That should say something.

I wasn't getting any hot water or water pressure going into my shower. Submitting the claim was pretty simple. I paid upfront and then they let me know what company was gonna go out. They emailed me the name of the company that was gonna come here and then on the day of the install, they sent an email with the technician’s face and the ETA on when they were gonna arrive. So that was pretty cool. When the technician came out, he was there within five to 10 minutes, and then he got it fixed. The technician answered all my questions and then showed me what was going on. Everything went smoothly. He got the job done that needed to be done. I've been with American Home Shield for quite a while. Any problems that occur at my house, I don't hesitate to call them.

He told me he'd try to get me in by three o'clock in the afternoon. I called to follow up and he said he'd be on his way and that he had to do an install. He came along with a worker and did what needed to be done. They had masks and foot coverings on and were very professional. The only disappointing part was I was on hold for a long time. The claims process with American Home Shield was very quick. I called and they told me they would dispatch someone. I got a call shortly thereafter from the company saying they had been dispatched and would be there within a day or two. The new microwave is working fine. The tech initially fixed a part in it. They found what was wrong but it went out again very shortly after. They determined it was a defect in the actual microwave oven. So, they replaced the whole thing. It was a different model and it was an upgrade. It seems to be nicer and better than the first one, and it works. American Home Shield did a good job. The other claim I had with them was a stopped-up toilet. I got a quick and excellent response both times. The technicians took care of it. They were very nice people and they seemed very professional. So, that’s always important. My renewal is coming up early next year and I plan to renew with AHS.

Our clothes dryer wouldn’t shut off. We could set the timer on wherever we want it to and when we come back, it still runs. We called American Home Shield and they sent a Sears guy out. He did whatever he does and declared at some point that it was all done and working and off he went. In the ensuing days, my wife said that it was still doing the same thing. Just for the sake of safety, I tried it myself and it was also what my wife said.
I called back and told them about it. The man came back out and worked on it again. It was the same technician. Then he said it was all done and working well, and he was gone. My wife noticed this hole in the front of the dryer. It’s about the size of a quarter and cut in half, sort of a concave half-moon shape. I looked at it closely and put my finger in the hole, and it was really smooth like it was done with an instrument that poked the hole there perfectly with no rough edges. Then my wife told me yesterday that the dryer still won’t shut off.
American Home Shield has been helpful on sending somebody. The issue is on Sears’ side and the fact that they are sending the same person who's not getting accomplished what he's supposed to get accomplished on which he thinks he is. The dumb dryer is not turning off and that's gonna cause a fire one of these times if we're not careful. Then the other thing is we have no idea where this hole came from.
I like the idea where one could just call and they send somebody out, and they come out and fix whatever the issue happened to be, and that was that. But it hasn't worked out for us at all and I'm very dissatisfied with this particular incident. If and when somebody comes out again, it will be the third time. We need this completed so that we get satisfied with our dryer.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

The guy was on time and professional. The lint trap wasn't going back into the dryer and there seemed to be a bead that was stuck down in there. He popped the bead out and that was it. I kind of thought that he would look at the dryer in general to make sure everything was functioning okay. So, that was a little disappointing. The fact that I paid $100 to have a bead removed was also problematic to me. I didn't expect it to be that much for him to come in and diagnose what was going on. I've had to call in other repair people. It was $50 for them to come in to look at it then if there was additional work that needed to be done, $50 was added to the total bill. I guess it's my fault that I don’t understand the process. I thought that the visit was less than $100. But it is what it is. I'm sure I'll need it again later.
I had AHS earlier then I let it go. I've got them this time for almost a year and this is the first time I've had to use it. I wasn't pleased with the claim experience too. It was a weekend when I did it and the person that they matched me with is a good 30 minutes away from me. I'm in Baltimore City and he's in one of the outlying counties further out in a smaller town. When I tried to contact him, I got an unnamed voicemail box to leave a message. That threw me ‘cause I had to wait. They told me I'd be contacted within 24 to 48 hours. But because it was a Friday, he didn't get back to me until Monday. I called him and he said, “I'm driving. I can't talk to you right now.”

I had the person called within a day to set it up. It has been quick and easy on that aspect.
The first time Air Squad came, they couldn't find any problem. They said it was fine. The second time they came, they looked a bit more. They replaced some solenoid past the compressor and said that should fix the problem. The third time they came, they found, because it has been getting so cold here in Vegas, that there was a valve that has been tripping off because it would get so cold that it would allow it to open up to let the gas through. They ordered the part and received it. They are coming back tomorrow to put the valve onto the system. On all the returns, AHS did not charge any fees. In that aspect, I'm happy with them.

It’s not easy submitting a claim to American Home Shield because it takes time for them to answer. They have a lot of calls and sometimes, you need to wait a little longer. But the tech came for the heater and fixed the problem. I had only one bad issue with AHS because one technician came over and said that he was gonna fix it. But then, AHS sent another one. And another one who was younger. They didn’t do anything because it was supposed to be our fault. It was not logical but they AHS had the rules. Still, the other things that they fixed were good and I’m still with them.
When you get a home, the owner must provide insurance for the home and if you have one, it saves you money. People should contract with American Home Shield although they should be aware that there are some issues that they don’t cover because that depends on the opinion of the technician. Sometimes, it's not your fault but they say it's your fault and they don't cover.

I've had American Home Shield before on other properties and my past experience was not so good. Every time they'd send somebody out, it would take forever for anybody to show up. There was an AC guy that came out and tried to tell me that my unit wasn’t covered and I had every coverage available. I found out later I was right, he was wrong, so they sent somebody else out. But that was aggravating because I had to wait two or three weeks for anybody to show up. I was really tempted not to go with American Home Shield again, but a friend of mine told me that they had improved and so I did. So far, it has been better. Big D Key recently came in and rekeyed my locks. The guy was nice. Then I looked at my bank account this morning, and for the rekey, it was $75 that came out. But then whenever they came out and checked my washer and dryer, it was $80 and some change. I was just curious as to what the difference was. It was not a big deal.

We have a two-storey townhouse. If you go upstairs, one of the bathrooms, you turn the hot water on, you can't leave your hand underneath the hot water because it gets so hot. You went to the tub, same thing. Five seconds, the water is steaming hot. That's fine. Then you mix it with cold, and you take a warm shower.
But you come down to the first floor, and you go to the kitchen sink and turn the hot water on, all it does is send out cold water for 20 seconds, and then it starts to warm up. But it doesn't warm up enough for me to take my hand away from it. I can just let the water run on my hand. It's warm, but it's not affecting my hand enough for me to, “Aw, it was hot.” You just wait. It doesn't do that. The guy came out and I told him what was going on, and he went out to the garage. I stayed in here in my den watching TV while he was out there fixing it. He called me to the garage, he said, “Hey, you're good to go. Here's the invoice.” He put my name on it and it said, “Date 12/18/20. Replaced burnt out electric thermostat.”
Today was one of my days off and I went over there, straightened it up and put stuff in the dishwasher. I turned the hot water on, then I went upstairs. I came back and started rinsing my dishes off, and I noticed that the water was hot. The guys came out here on the 18th and here we are back to square one. We got plenty of hot water upstairs. No problem. Down here, I can turn it on in my kitchen area. I kept standing there for 20 minutes with hot water running on my hand, and it won't burn me. I can’t figure out why it doesn't work downstairs, but it does work upstairs. It might be a plumbing problem I have. But the tech said he fixed the problem, but it didn't.
I called American Home Shield today and they said somebody was supposed to call me and set an appointment to come back out. The guy said, “Well, you might have to pay for another service call.” I said, “Why should I have to pay for another service call when it's doing the same thing it did when I paid my $75?” I gave him my debit card over the phone. He said I had to pay before the service guy could come out. He was already paid when he came to the door and rang the doorbell, but it's not working correctly.
Other than that, we got everything replaced through American Home Shield. I got lucky when I bought the townhouse. The warranty was transferable so we kept it. And lo and behold when they put a new roof on before we moved in, whoever did it punctured the coil line up in our attic and the AC went out. And then a month later, the dishwasher went out. We have those old school coils on top for the cooking of food. That also went out. We got a new stove, dishwasher, and a refrigerator no problem. But the thing was, it was working. American Home Shield would send a guy out, open it up, put something on, and it's good to go. They would never come in the actual house, went upstairs and see if there was anything wrong with the unit upstairs. So every time they will come out, it was something they did with the front. Because no one was here when they did the work. Then we came when it was working.

So, I called Home Shield and the guy came out and he said, "Oh, it's your blower fan." He ordered it and that took a couple days. Then, he came back and put it in. They're on top of it pretty much right away as soon as you call.
Then a dishwasher guy came out. I had two plumbing issues at my other house and it was the dishwasher that wasn't working. It was a very easy fix on that one. In fact, I felt a little silly. We were without a properly working refrigerator for three months. All the while, we were talking with the technicians and they were saying that they honestly didn't think that the refrigerator could be repaired but they couldn't get the permission to get it replaced until three months later. That was when I called American Home Shield, and I wasn't even expecting them to be there to answer that call that day, but they did. They went ahead and they called me on a Friday. They came Saturday. It was a quicker turnaround than what I anticipated. It was really nice.
The gentleman that came out to do the work at first thought the issue was just because it was leaking. So, we waited a few days and he kept coming back and checking on it, and then he found out that it was actually something wrong with the tank itself. When we found that out, they had to go to the Home Depot and they had to get another one. All in meanwhile, he would still come by and check to make sure we were alright. And the ladies in the office kept me in the loop. They would call and let me know what was going on and what needed to be done. Once we figured out exactly what needed to be done, I got it all taken care of with in about a week and a half later. American Home Shield has gotten a lot better. In the beginning, I was having some problems with different representatives or the different contractors they send out. They have got better with the contractors that they're using now.

I have two garage doors and one of them wasn't working from the very beginning that we bought the house. The sensors that were already on one of the garage doors weren't working. So, he had to order new sensors. He came back a week and a half later to install them. Something blew out on the other garage door and he switched that piece, and it started working. When he came out the second time, he disconnected the motherboard and cleaned it out. He reconnected it again and that seemed to work. But then, all of a sudden it opened up again. It seems to open and close on its own. So, they have to come back and look at that one. They haven't gone back yet but I haven't insisted because for four days, it hasn’t opened or closed on its own again. For some reason, just randomly, I would come out in the morning and the garage door would be halfway open. I would close it and then, I would be monitoring throughout the day and nothing happens.
It's working fine now but I don't know until when. The tech was super nice and professional. He took the time to come back and cleaned out the motherboard because when he finished working, he was still in the car. Then, he drove off and was making a U-turn and then, the door opened again. So, he came back, got out of the car, looked at the motherboard again, cleaned it out again and made sure everything was switched on.

Guaranteed Door Service was nice to work with. They came exactly when they told me they would be there, and handled the issue quickly. They fixed the problem and got it all done. It took them about an hour, so it was perfect. When we were having problems with our oven fan, a gentleman came out and had to order a part. That has been a few weeks. The tech thought the part would be in the week after Thanksgiving. We were going to give him until after the holiday, and then give him a call to check in. Other than that, using American Home Shield has been easy. I appreciate it.

My AC heating unit was not turning on. Submitting the claim for it was very easy. American Home Shield wanted to send the contractor out the very next week. But with the way I work, I had to do some changes to get the contractor out on a Saturday to fit my schedule. So it only took about two and a half weeks. The experience was very easy when the technician came out. He had everything on hand and he repaired it in an hour. It was very fast.

They have some reps that are really helpful and they get you right to the person you want to speak to. But then they have some from another country that you can't understand what they are saying. American Home Shield needs to get English-speaking people. They're trying their best to speak English but it's their phone service. When they’re calling from another country, there is so much static or they kinda fade in and fade out and fade in and fade out.
The techs that they've sent out were courteous. They explained the problem to me and gave me the resolution and what I could do. When I had a claim for the washing machine, the tech came out twice. The first time he came out, he said the electrical circuit had blew out. I told him that it ran and that it came on with the extension cord. But he said that I was not getting enough power when I use an extension cord. He explained to me that he could not check it. He told me to get it fixed and then he would be right back. Once I had it fixed, he came right out, turned it on, and he told me what the problem was. American Home Shield is gonna replace it.

A tech came out for an air conditioner claim. All he did was take a water hose, run it through the unit, and cleared it out. He told me to do that every two months. But he didn't check the unit. A supervisor came out too and told me they couldn't do anything until the unit went out. That didn't make me feel good. My air conditioning bill is astronomical and it's not funny. My neighbor's electrical bill is so much lower than mine. One guy told me his bill was $600 and he runs his air conditioner more than I do.
My brother is an HVAC tech and he told me about spraying the unit out to make sure it stayed clean as well as those vents and stuff in-between. But there's something more wrong with the air conditioner. I run my AC during the summer at 78 degrees. SCE calls between 78 and 82 degrees. My windows were closed. My bill was last year $2,300. My AC unit is drawing a lot of amperages. The kicker is I got solar panels but my bill is still that high.
I told the supervisor I was going to find a company that could come out and do a professional job. I was very disappointed in the company that AHS all sent out. They also won't send anybody out to properly check my unit out. That is what ticks me off. AHS is supposed to be helping me. I had another company come out and they checked on my air conditioner. They said that the compressor’s temperature was off the charts so it was not working properly. These people that I had come out did a written thing. But there was no use of me even turning that written document in to AHS because there was nothing that was gonna be done. They were gonna keep sending out these jackleg people that don't want to do their job. The guys who came for my AC were almost just as bad as the people who came for the microwave and oven.
AHS had an appliance company come out and the guy from there didn't know what he was doing. He came out the first time at 10 o'clock at night when he was supposed to be there between 8:00 and 12:00. He then told me he was gonna be back and that I would be his first call the next day. He came out about 6 o'clock in the evening and said it was the first time he ever worked on a microwave. My console was all out and the parts were put in my garage. He was coming back the next day to take it all out, take it to the shop, and work on it.
I called and somebody was sent from the company. My microwave and oven were hanging halfway out of the wall. He came back and he put it all together. But my display was not on. When the same guy came back out, he didn't remember me nor could he remember that he was the one that put my oven back together and said, “Only thing it was was this little cardboard piece and that's all that needed to be done.” I asked, “Why did your guy have it almost taken out of my wall and had it all disconnected, and was gonna take it back to your shop?” He said he didn't know.
He wrote it up that we did something. But AHS has a record where I complained that this guy that came out was a crackhead and asked AHS not to send him or the company out anymore. I don't want them at my house because the guy lied. If you're lazy and can't do the job, then don't do it and refer it to somebody else. But don't lie.
Those claims aside, AHS did well when they sent the second subcontractor out to take care of my stove. They fixed the burner, which the other company lied and said it was due to water buildup. That wasn't even the case. That was the same company that came out and messed up my microwave display. I haven’t heard anything back on that. My display is not on. That never got repaired.
Hi Robert,
Thank you for providing your feedback about your most recent experience to have the air conditioner and microwave repaired. I would be glad to speak with you to reach a resolution.

On Monday morning, a company called us and made an appointment for Tuesday. They came out, brought us a new disposal, and fixed the problem. It all went very smoothly.
In the past, we had a couple of issues. Our daughter had a refrigerator problem and the company that American Home Shield sent to the house was very frustrating to deal with. They made two or three appointments and did not show up. They never called nor did they answer their phone. Days went by and the refrigerator ended up completely dying. It was a big rigmarole and I couldn't even deal with it. I had to have my husband handle it. But that was in the middle of the COVID thing and they were probably short-staffed. I don't blame American Home Shield but I told them to not ever send that company out to my house again.

The contractor working on our Viking oven has been analyzing the issue and coming back, getting different parts. It's been frustrating. We're waiting on parts again. AHS only has one provider for this area, which is part of the problem. It's a three-person company. First, the father came out, then the son, and then, the father came back out. And I can never reach them directly and they never answer the phone the first time. I have to leave messages. It has not been a very efficient process all the way down the line.
We had the same problem with the dishwasher. The tech couldn't order the parts and didn't know what parts to get. We ended up having to get a new dishwasher. We had a Viking and we ended up having to get a KitchenAid and pay for 50% of it. Our recent claim is about our furnace. We got the furnace fan fixed but the gentleman said it has not been cleaned in so many years so there are other problems. But he said AHS won't let him fix it until it completely breaks down and it's going to cost 10 times more once that happens. There is no prevention even though we just had a full-service cleaning.
A major issue in American Home Shield's processes is that the repair people cannot order parts to repair. They have to go back to AHS to purchase whatever the parts are, which they then ship to the service provider. Then, the service provider schedules an appointment. The process is extremely inefficient because of that. One time, AHS cannot find the parts for the oven and we found the parts, called AHS, told them where to order them, and gave them the part number. We're like working for AHS and paying for the plan. We have a lot of mixed feelings about stuff with American Home Shield to renew it.

But I would like to be able to talk to somebody who I can understand and who understands what I'm saying. Also, when I call and I'm having issues, I would like to have somebody call me back that can explain to me what's going on.
My toilets were running and the plumber called the same day that I called AHS. He was here by 2:00 that afternoon and he fixed the issues with no problem. But prior to this claim, I called AHS for my refrigerator and I had to wait two weeks to have it repaired so I lost a lot of food. Every time I called AHS back, I would get a rep who I could barely understand. Also, all they kept telling me is that nobody could come out. I'd usually call to have services done and sometimes it takes forever. But when I called, I made sure that whatever service call I was making was actually covered. I did a claim for the AC. It was making noises and when it was turned on, the house was very humid. When the technician arrived, he checked the unit and told me that it was better to replace it than to repair or to maintenance it. He showed me the packages that his company had on financing a new system and he left.
I also had Home Shield bring a company to check my electrical panel to see if they could either tell me what was wrong with it or how I could fix it. The company that came over said that there was nothing they could do unless I replace everything and they just left. When I called American Home Shield, I told them that the agent made sure that what I needed help with was actually covered. They said not to worry and that it was. They would talk to the electrician and the company that came over and they would let me know if I qualify to get a refund. They talked to the electrician and they got back to me. They said that what he went for was nothing for him to do about.
Also, my house was missing some outlets, and one thing wasn't working, and I asked American Home Shield about it and they said it was covered. The guy came and he looked at everything, then he said that none of that were covered. He could give me his card and I could call them for a rate for them to come and fix it. He told me not to pay for this with the warranty, just give them a call.
None of the stuff that I asked for was covered and I was told they were, so I was pretty upset. I ended up paying two deductibles for the AC and the electric panel for no reason. American Home Shield is a good warranty company. But people need to be very careful when making an appointment. They need to make double sure to AHS that it is actually covered because they will still get charged regardless.
Recently, the fridge was freezing the vegetables and fruits. Hotshot Appliance Repair told me that they had to seal all the doors apart. The guy came to put it in. He told me if the problem didn't go away, to give them a call because we have 30 days for the claim. He was very professional and nice. Now, I have to give them a call again because it's still freezing.

Our dishwasher's been a major problem, but anything the repair guy from Dan McCain could fix on site, he has fixed. He's done very well with it. However, I'd like him to have the parts on this truck, but it's never gonna happen. Every time he comes out, he has to order a part, which is normal, then it's waiting two weeks for the part. Other than that, it's just a matter of where you live as to how they ship the parts. Orville is where Dan McCain's out of and we're in Chico. It's a 20-minute drive between towns, so it takes a minute to get a part out of Sacramento, Stockton, Nevada or wherever.
American Home Shield could lower the price as well. It went up $100 over the 12-month period. It's an insurance program. If you've got brand new appliances, you're under the manufacturer warranty and whoever you're buying from. After that you're on your own. Sometimes, you're better off to put your money in your pocket and save it.

The furnace wasn't heating. When we first called with our heat, the home wouldn't heat up unless we turned it up real high. My problem was that we had to turn the heat up to 74 before it really got hot. Because he said the reason when you turn it up to 74, it's going into emergency heat mode, which is hotter. And then my outside unit was freezing up. You could see ice around.
When the company came out, they said part of it that it was going on emergency mode because of our air unit outside, which is a heat pump. It was low on Freon. And that my warranty didn't cover the Freon. I paid them $200 or $300 for it. They said that I had to pay them for that because the Freon was 100 some dollars a pound, and my warranty only covers $10 of that. And then they left.
Once they did what they did, I went outside two days later, it was the same thing. I saw ice around the unit again. I called back and said, "Hey, it's the same as it was before." Even though he did what he said, the system is still doing the same thing it always did. They came back. The tech said that it was working fine. It was within specs. And he did another adjustment on the compressor. They told me it wasn't covered, and they charged me the rest. I paid them the money on my credit card.
It seems like the objective of whoever comes out is to deflect to make sure whatever the problem is, is not their problem. It's the consumer problem. It's something I need to pay for. I just thought it was odd. I believed what the tech said the Freon was low. Because he said when he tested out the unit that it was a Schrader valve that was leaking. And the leak is so slow that it could just leak a bit over time. He repaired that. And he put the Freon in.
I know American Homes Shield covers the air conditioner and some other stuff we got in the house. The thing about a second opinion, because my understanding of whoever comes out, you pay them $105. That kind of nips that in the bud right there. You're not trying to pay $105 just to have different people to come out. Unless you're saying, you don't have to pay that to get a second opinion. Them coming out already, it was almost $400 for me anyway. I wasn't trying to make it $500. I'm waiting to see if I would have to pay this guy some more money at the end of this week. I'm waiting to see when the temperature goes up, what I got to do next because I think I would have to end up calling them again.

We're happy with Happy Bear. It turned out okay even though they didn't do anything. I pointed out how the water was leaking and the guy told me that what I thought was a problem was not a problem and what was really wrong with something that just needed new ends on the faucets which I put in myself. The previous problem was a stove exhaust fan unit. I ended up hanging on the telephone for one hour waiting for somebody to get back to me but nobody ever did. I had to call again and again. I blamed it on covid but I was very annoyed. Even now, the pick-up is not perfect.
Finally, they did send somebody. They tried to fix it but they couldn't. They told me that I had to order in a unit on my own which I did and I paid for it. I had a realtor who had originally recommended American Home Shield. I told her how much trouble I was having getting ahold of them and she gave me a number to call. I got one of their senior management people who lives in Arizona. Once he got into the circle, he gave me a number that worked rather quickly. In the end, I was reimbursed for the $600 that I paid for the exhaust fan. It was installed by American Home Shield and they did a fine job.

The plumber who came out was knowledgeable and friendly and he had a nose and mouth covering. I felt safe, which is important when someone you don't know is coming into your house. The first time he came out was because my son flushed a toy down the toilet. The second time was because something in the back of a toilet wore down to the point where it needed to be replaced. During that visit, he looked at an additional toilet that had too much toilet paper in it, which he flushed out.

Somebody inspected our gas fireplace and they said that there was an electrical issue. We had Action Electrical Contracting Company come in to look at things and they stated that it was not related to an electrical issue, it was related to the electrical connections in the fireplace that were directly related to the fireplace. They were very friendly and very thorough. They explained things in great detail as to what the issues were. We also had an issue with our stove and the person who came in was very efficient. He knew exactly what the problem was, fixed it quickly, and everything was back in working order. It's been a very good experience with AHS. It's nice to know that things can be fixed and that there's a set expense for all that.

Typically, I just call in or do my claims online to American Home Shield. I get a technician started, I just pay the 125, and then I haven't had to do anything else. It's fairly easy. The only thing I don't like is when you're paying the 125, it doesn't really explain much other than you just paying the fee upfront. It would be really helpful for somebody that doesn't know how to do these things for a living to really kind of explain what you're paying for each time. It just seems like when you're making a claim, all they want is your $125, and then they'll get everything all started. I think it would be nice to be a little more clear.
A Good Connection came out for a fan motor in the bathroom. I tried to explain that to the person I spoke to on the phone. I don't know if she really understood English very well. I was trying to explain to her that it was a fan in the bathroom. The fan had gone out. The technician came over, he thought it was something else too. I showed him what it was. He was able to take the mount off, he was able to look at the motor, the motor could not be fixed, so he went to Home Depot and bought a new motor, and then reinstalled it. He was able to do it in just a couple of hours.
He was professional. The only thing was he didn't wear a mask. I wore a mask. I wouldn't throw the book at him for that because I wasn't in the room the whole time with him. But he just represents himself. I don't want him to lose business. He's a nice enough guy, but I don't know if he does that for his own personal or political reasons. But he knew what he was doing and he fixed my problem. That's all I care about.
Everything has been great. But it would be nice to be able to go online and be able to see what was done even after a conversation just so that for any type of insurance that they know that it just doesn't just say like electric or whatever because insurance covered is going to be like, "Well, what does that mean?" They might want more detail other than just having the technician and his name and the phone number on there. They might want more information.
I've used American Home Shield twice now, once for a small electrical problem next to my dishwasher, and then the most recent in my bathroom. I didn't have to fight with anybody when the electrician came over for the dishwasher. He said he would explain everything. He's worked with them before and he told me he's never had any problems with American Home Shield. Everything went smooth. I've not had too many problems. They've addressed my concerns regarding minor things here and there, which wouldn't keep me from recommending it or continue using it if I was staying.

They send you an email after you complete it and let you know who's going to be calling you or you can call that company to see when you can schedule your appointment. Recently, the thermostat wouldn't come on when we turn it on. I put a ticket in that morning and the company came the same day so I was satisfied. It came on after the guy left. I had two claims. One was for some plumbing and the other one was for heating and air conditioning. AHS made me have two separate $100 payments and it turned out that the company of the first person was doing plumbing, heating and air conditioning. They could have handled all of my problems with only one $100 fee.
I was entirely happy with the plumber. He fixed toilet and I've been thrilled. He took care of my son's shower which was the other problem. But I was not happy with the heating company. I tried to get back as soon as I hung up because I realized I didn't put two furnaces that were problematic on the detail list. I only put one. Every time I tried to get through initially, AHS began with asking for a $100 credit payment. I couldn't spend more time because I had to get back to work.
The day before the scheduled visit, I did get back to them at 2:30. I had a supervisor approve the addition of the second furnace to the original number. The man came the next day and claimed that he had no knowledge of the second furnace. He then called his own dispatcher who had no knowledge of it but the dispatcher called his supervisor who said, "Yes, I do have an authorization for the second furnace." But nobody fixed it. They looked at it and said, "Oh, I'm sorry. This would not cover setting up the humidifier on the furnace or anything else. But we're not doing it 'cause we didn't have the order number with the work on it," which they had. It should have been covered because the air conditioning is one of the things that AHS covers and the humidifier just needed to be turned on and connected and I didn't know how to do it. I don't know if anybody's ever gonna come by and fix the furnaces I paid 100 bucks to be fixed.

Our water bill noted that the water was high and that was a problem. We bought the house two years ago. We noticed in our living room that part of our wooden floors was buckling. The wood is water-stained and bleached at the top. It seemed to be spreading. We had the city come out and they said it was not the city's issue. We called American Home Shield to have a plumber come out and look at the plumbing inside the house. The guy who came was prompt and the correspondence was good. The guy came out on Saturday and we completed this on Friday. It was all good.
We turned off all the water and there was no water movement on the line. The guy said it was not a plumbing issue. But I discussed it with him and said that maybe it was the sewer line underneath. He said he would have to report it to the office and that the office would contact American Home Shield. I called the plumber twice during the last week then again this morning to try to get some feedback. They said that American Home Shield’s portal was down. The plumber wouldn't give me an answer as to what the report was because he said American Home Shield had to do that.
The follow-through has not been good and it was not what I would expect. Thank God this problem is not the kind of thing where my sewer seemed to be backing up. I would not have been as calm as I am now. It just seems to be the same problem we've been having that's creeping up on us and it's problematic. I discussed it with the plumber that was here that maybe a scope with a camera could be run to see if there is a break. Somewhere, there's a problem and it hasn't fully manifested. I would think that with the issues that we're having, AHS would agree to pay a plumber to come back and scope it.
There should be better communication with me as the client rather than me having to chase everybody down. A follow-through from American Home Shield would have been very helpful. My husband is very much disappointed and is absolutely negative about the experience. But I was happy that the plumber came out. He seemed knowledgeable about what would be considered the water problem in the house but not necessarily the sewage problem that we think might be the real problem. He didn't want to go any further. I also fault him for not calling me back and saying I had to call twice or three times.
I got on the phone and it took probably five to seven minutes on hold, which was okay. It’s that time of year. The guy I got tried calling the plumber but he was as unsuccessful as I was. On some days, the rep was good and responsive telling me "I'll get back to you,” but never did. I would have hoped for more. Christmas is Thursday. I hope that the sewage hasn't backed up before that. I hope American Home Shield makes a more transparent process where you get to see the plumber's report at the same time that they send it out to American Home Shield. I’m hopeful that they will call me back and work with me on this problem.

The claim submission process has been pretty simple for me because I've been with American Home Shield for a while so I’d gotten the hang of it. I keep having the same problem every time, even throughout the summertime. They're trying everything they can to not replace the whole unit. They're just piecing it together and it's really not going to help. It's gotten to the point where Family Heating & Cooling know me and they're quite familiar with my home.
My heating vents were kicking out cold air. It wasn't blowing out hot air on a section or my home. I have two sections that are run by two different thermostats. Family Heating & Cooling came in and looked everything over. They went outside and found out that where the coolant goes was cracked. They replaced and fixed that. Then, he couldn't get the fluid at the time, so he let me know that he called around and the closest one was out. He had to go back to Newcastle and get it. He brought it the next day and filled it up. Everything seemed to be working okay. But then, we noticed that it still wasn't getting as warm as we needed it to get. They sent someone out again and they closed off some vents and tried to push the air and forced it down to that area to make it a little warmer. It's been going pretty good so far.
American Home Shield raised my rates out of nowhere and they didn't contact me and let me know. I didn't notice it until I happened to see my report on my bank statement. Then, I realized they were charging more so I called them and they said that everything had to go up because of COVID. That was a little unprofessional to charge someone without telling them that. Better communication and more replacements instead of continuing to try to fix the same problem are the two biggest for me because I constantly have to pay the $100 first before someone comes out and for the same issue all throughout the year and it’s getting a little pricey.

Our furnace would click off by itself and not come back on and the repairmen fixed it, we thought, temporarily. It lasted a couple of days then it went out one evening, and it wouldn't turn back on. The repairmen had to come out. The issue was something with the burner and a couple of other parts they had to replace. They weren't sure that they could get them because it’s older than what I said it was. Other than that, American Home Shield did a wonderful job. We're very satisfied. Whoever they call and tell to come out, they call me and they're always out here straight. They're very good. I can't say enough good things about American Home Shield. They've been so good to anything we've had done.
My daughter bought a new house and they put an insurance. Their realtor talked to them and they went with a company that sounded Italian. It was terrible. They had a water leak in the house, and it was a mess they had. They had it fixed, and as soon as they could, they got out of their agreement with the insurance. I told them to get American Home Shield, but they listened to their friends and not to their dad. As parents, we’re supposed to not know enough because we're too old. They ended up going with another company that's like American Home Shield and this company messed them up. Their refrigerator is one of these fancy ones. It's about $3,000 and that company gave them $400 to buy a new refrigerator.
On the other hand, we had an old refrigerator go bad that we had down in our basement and it was replaced. I didn't even think my refrigerator was in the insurance. I happened to call, and someone said, “Why didn't you use your insurance?” I called American Home Shield and I could not believe that it was covered. I said, “Now that's not my regular refrigerator that we use. It’s the spare one that we have in our basement.” The rep said, “Well, is it a finished area that it’s in, in the basement?” I said yes. It's all finished down there. American Home Shield gave us a better refrigerator than what we had and I could not believe it. No hassles, no nothing. They also fixed the washer and ended up giving us a new one. They did a nice job for us.

We called again and they came out and looked at it, and they said it was the motor. The heating element was going out into the dryer. They said that they would take care of the issue. Then he called us and said that we had to call American Home Shield back because we started a new ticket claim on it.
We then started a new claim. AHS would send another repair place out to fix the issue. After we had requested DNG, and when we requested them, the gentleman told my wife that DNG would come to get it. Then we got the confirmation on our phone that there was another appliance place to fix it. So, we called back and told them, “No, we requested DNG because they already knew the problem. Because you’re gonna send somebody out and then that person say, ‘Oh, it's the motor. And then we got to order the motor and it’s gonna take that much longer.’”
At that point, I was told by a gentleman from AHS that DNG already had their allotted claim and they were booked. I said, “I just got off the phone with them because they had told us. We called them, said, ‘Okay, we did the claim.’” Then the guy said, “No, you have to go with this one.” I was pissed off because we were told that DNG would take care of the issue and then they didn't.
My wife then got on the phone and called. When she was talking to the lady, the lady said, “Okay, we can have them but we have to cancel the previous ticket of the other place coming, and then we can reissue it to DNG”. Then she said, “That's gonna be another $75.” My wife said, “What? They didn't even come out. I must speak to your manager.” Because the one gentleman that we spoke to, the first one that said that DNG was coming, waived that $75 fee for it because my wife said, “I've been sick. This happened. We didn't know.” After my wife talked to somebody and got the runaround there, they ended up waiving the $75 and DNG came out, fixed the dryer and did a phenomenal job. We were at the point of leaving American Home Shield.
I highly recommended DNG. They were phenomenal. He said, “We’d be at this time,” they were at this time. My wife said, “Do you have shoe covers?” They had shoe covers. Very friendly and professional. We were pleased with the work that DNG did but we were dissatisfied with the runaround that we got from AHS. The problem is they have so many people that are trying to do the same job that one says one thing, one says another. They are not all on the same page. But we renewed our contract with them because we were like, “You know what? We understand people have bad days. So we thought we’d give you guys another chance but if it happens again, we will not renew. We will pay more money and do another company.”

I have had American Home Shield for a couple years and paying my monthly due on time. AHS is great for small issues like a running toilet. But, when it comes to fixing appliances and upholding to their contract, they are terrible. I put in a request in October 2020 to have our microwave fixed, I paid a $125 deductible, the technician came out and told us he had to order parts, and he would be back in 2 weeks. It has been 3 months and the microwave is not fixed. GE called me and said the parts are on back order till February.
I have called AHS 6 times now demanding they just replace the microwave. This is exactly what happens on each call: placed on hold for 20 minutes while they call GE, they come back to me and tell me they have been on hold too long and they left a voice message, I demand to speak to a supervisor, then I am told they have to email the supervisor and I will get a call in 24 hours, I never hear back from AHS, and I have still not had my microwave fixed. The contract states they will replace my microwave up to $3000. I was told today that GE would have to tell AHS to offer me more options. Why is GE in charge at this point? I cannot get anyone higher than a phone representative to speak with me.
Hi Carl,
I hate to hear about your most recent service experience to have the toilet and microwave repaired. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issue resolved.

The repair guy from High Priority Plumbing was professional. He came on time. He did the job. Everything's good. I called American Home Shield to file the claim. I only was upset when I called them for the pool. The pool guy said, "You guys did damage to the machine. So we are not covering it under the warranty." I brought another company, the AquaRama and they said, "That's a lie. They should have fixed it. It's not your fault." I wasn't happy with that in the warranty at all. I had to spend my money even though I'm paying for the warranty and spent $75, and they didn't fix the issue. Overall, they were okay but I will maybe take off the warranty on the pool.

My lower unit was taking up 10 minutes longer to reach temperature. The techs came and found that the lower unit needed Freon. I had just put Freon two months before but the techs tested the unit, checked all the electricals and filters, and made sure everything was good. They also measured how much Freon we were gonna put in. They also told me what to look out for and the steps to take in case the problem happens again. They were really professional and I would recommend them. Things have been okay since then but I can tell the HVAC started to not work as efficiently as when they put in the Freon.

My microwave stopped working. We waited for close to a week and a half because we were waiting for an air conditioning person to come to fix our microwave. We knew right off the bat it wasn’t connected to our air conditioning. We spoke to a rep three times. She fought with us and said, “I'm sorry, I can't give you anybody else. This is who I have to give you.” My husband said, “I'm not calling in my air conditioner. I'm calling in my microwave.” Either the rules or regs to set somebody up is ridiculous. My husband threatened to quit with the program and find a different one. He wasn't going to wait any longer for an air conditioning man from Tempe. That’s 25 miles away from us.
The guy came and fixed it. He was quick as a bunny when we finally got him but we’re not used to waiting a week and a half for something that should have been taken care of immediately. But AHS has saved us some money so there is that positive side to it. The caveat being you have to put your foot down. It took me four times with the garage door to get fixed.
I am happy to hear that we were able to resolve your claim. Thanks for sharing your AHS experience. Please let us know if you need assistance in regards to your warranty.

We just bought this house in October and our realtor added American Home Shield to our thing. The claim process is a joke ‘cause you call them up and they’ll set you up for $75 every time, no matter what. I told the person that after they replaced the septic system, there was a leak in my front yard. They said they would send out a plumber without even looking at my stuff. The guy that they called actually called me and asked me what was going on, and I told him. He said that he does a lot of work for them and that they won't do anything that’s out of the slab. I told him that AHS would just let that go through and take that $75, as well as the one that they just got through, and take it. I called AHS back to cancel that.
This time, the plumber from Oasis Plumbing came out and looked at it a little bit. He said that there was some plumbing inside the wall that he said he needed to repair and all this other stuff, but it wasn't true. All that needed to be done was the pipes snaked out, and new caps put on the pipes. He said he didn't do that. But it says in their contract that they do. He said that he needed to open up the wall and that wasn't really necessary. He charged us $75 and said he’d get back in touch with me. He left and I never heard anything from him.
I got ahold of the American Home Shield people, and they actually told my wife that it would be $800 in carpentry work to expose the pipes. There's also a cleanout in the washroom as well as the outside of the wall, on the outside of the washroom. We ended up repairing it out of my pocket. We just had to go through the one on the outside of the wall, and we've cleaned it out, and everything runs fine.

It's very frustrating when they don't cover things. It's like, then why do I have them? The old guy was really honest and did quality repair work.
Out of 15 years that we've been with them, we've had one company show up that was questionable although I wasn't dissatisfied with what the guy did. We had a refrigerator that we purchased three years before it was out of warranty and there was something wrong with the ice maker. A young kid came in and looked at it. He said that we got to replace it and Home Shield did that. But to me, it seemed extreme, and I wasn't really comfortable with this technician. The people I talk to at American Home Shield are very nice. They try to schedule things for me but it takes a while. I have to wait a week before anybody can get out. It has also been a real toss-up as we've had some good and bad contractors. We asked the techs whether they worked on commission or by the hour. They said they worked on commission. I said that this is why some of them are in such a hurry to get out of my house to get to the next one. I try to ask them questions and they'll be like "Ah, come on." I could tell they didn't want to spend any time with me and it has been hurtful. There have been a couple of situations where they could have helped me out more and the techs just said they don't have time and they have to leave. There was a person who we asked not to come back because he got kind of rude.
When one of the guys came recently, it seemed like he wanted to get out really fast. I told him, “I know, you think I'm a pain in the butt. Because I just want to ask you if I can call my husband and you could tell him exactly what you told me. Just repeat it. Because he's a technician, he's going to understand it a lot better, or I need to write it down.” The guy was upset about that. Of all the home warranties, American Home Shield is the best. However, they do not use the best of the contractors around. I don't know if it's because they're less money or what. However, the guy's diagnosis was completely off based on what our pool service company is saying, and they're familiar with the equipment that we have. That's why we have a callback that is going to be happening next week.
98% of the time, the contractors are always very nice, very polite and very trustworthy. But skill-wise, no. I was a project manager in construction and had my own company therefore I tend to be maybe more particular than others. Also, American Home Shield should understand the geography better of where they're sending the people and where they're getting their contractors. They tend to not send particularly very local contractors. That has been my experience in California. They're sending them as far as 70 miles away. Previously when we lived in Colorado, they were sending more local contractors.

In the phone call, they said they would check everything when we called. We asked the the guy to check and he checked everything. He said that there was something wrong with a valve that switches from the heating and the AC. That needed to be replaced, so they're waiting for a part for the unit to come in. He said he would contact me as soon as it arrives because there was a shortage of them. He also said that part was almost as expensive as the unit itself. He seemed very knowledgeable and he knew what he was doing. All in all, everybody's been quick to respond. We're happy with the way everything was finalized. It went very well.

We had a service request for an appliance repair and the tech fixed everything. We also had another service request for our furnace and that took a long time to get fixed. The first company didn't do anything. The second company that came out was much better and they did a good job. Now, everything is working fine and properly like it's supposed to. A long time ago, we had a service request for the stove and that was fixed on the first day the technicians came. Everything was good with our experience with American Home Shield.

BJ Appliances addressed my appliance issue very well. One of the knobs on my stove stopped working. So when the tech first came out, he checked it and tolld me that it was going to take about five days for the part to come back. Then in about six days, he called and said that the part had come and wanted to know what day he could come out. He came out again and repaired it. He also checked everything on the stove. He was very pleasant.
My dishwasher was draining really slow. American Home Shield said that BJ's was under appliances. I was told that I needed a plumber for that dishwasher issue. This was a new company and I wasn't familiar with them at all. Two young men came and they messed up my bathroom. They messed up the carpet. They said that they were trying to unstop the sink and then a valve broke and water just went everywhere. I gave them several towels to try to get the water off the floor. They brought in some kind of fan. It took at least a week for the carpet at the entrance of the door to the bathroom to dry. All this happened at the same time with BJ. But BJ's was very professional and their tech did his job.

American Home Shield has been helpful most of the time. But there were a couple of times that the people said the issues weren't covered by American Home Shield. I understand like they can't cover every single thing, but things like the garage door spring should have been covered, but apparently, it wasn't. The light inside the spa wasn't covered either. When I had a claim for an induction cooktop, they didn't replace it because it's so expensive, but they gave me a good chunk of change towards buying a new one. It doesn’t cover it completely but it's better than nothing.
When the freezer didn't seem to be working, I called but by the time that ACT Appliance came, it started working again. But the guy still went through and took apart the back and checked out the compressor and all these other things. He said he checked all the parts and that they seem to be in good working order. So they were very good.

The heat went out and you could hear the blower kick on. But it was just blowing cold air. The first time the tech came out, he said it was the igniter so he replaced it. This was back on March and at the time, the weather was making that transition into getting warm. I still wanted to get it fixed, so that when winter comes, we would be all good. So, he fixed it. It was kicking and we used it for two days and then, cut it off. Then, we started using the AC afterwards. This year, when the winter started, I had the same issue. So, it worked for two days and we finally cut it off at three days, and it kicked off again. So, I called the contractor back. Another guy came out and said that the igniter was fine. It was our flame sensor. It was dirty so, he cleaned it off and then, it kicked on. He said that everything was good to go. He tested it and it was kicking hot air. That lasted for a day. Afterwards, it went out and started blowing cold air again.
I tried to get up there myself and see if anything went wrong because the guy said that I might have to use a cleaning. They could come out and do some cleaning on the system and that should help. I had to call him again and when he came out, he said that he checked the igniter and replaced it. He checked the flame sensor and cleaned it. He dug deeper and said that it was the circuit board. It was the whole reason why the other two were going up. So, I spent $300, getting the technician to come out to assess something. I appreciate when he came out. He was very knowledgeable about explaining the circuit board and how it affects the flame sensor and the igniter. But it took three times for the techs to come out here to identify that the circuit board was going up and that was the main issue. Nevertheless, he was professional and courteous.
Everyone that I've dealt with at American Home Shield has been great. I was explaining my frustration to the rep about paying the fee. She said that I was gonna have to pay the fee because that was not for the service. It was for the technician to come out. I understood that but I couldn't keep kicking out $100 for the technician to come out to keep trying to diagnose something. They need to fix it. If they come out several times, I would have to pay several hundred dollars and I couldn't keep doing that. I said that was enough. We were going back and forth so, I said I would just deal with it and to let the tech come out. I would spend the extra $100. And then I told her to let me try calling United Air Temp.
The girl at United Air Temp was extremely nice, courteous and she understood. She didn't want me to keep having to pay the service fee of $ 100. She said that a technician could come out to my home because I was still in that warranty window and it shouldn't be a problem. She told me to call my insurance company back and tell them that I was within that window. The tech would come back out and there would be no fee if they were going to diagnose it. So, when I called back, I dealt with someone different and the girl was nice. I have AHS for both my properties and they provide an exceptional service. I'm not gonna let that one time with the girl change my views on the service overall.

I would strongly advise you not to use this company! THIS IS A SCAM! The professionalism of this company is a joke. The contractors they sent out to my home were completely unprofessional. They do not understand the importance of communication nor do they return phone calls. After several days of non communication from the contacting company. I contacted AHS, the phone operator could not answer any of my questions nor could he connect me to a manager. A few days later my wife called AHS and was told that our service call would be escalated because of the lack of communication on both companies' behalf. I guess escalation means to do nothing at all! Because our washer machine is still broken. I have called AHS several times since then and requested a manager's call back and I have not yet received a call from anyone.
I called AHS today 12/20/2020 around 1:30pm cst, I spoke with a gentleman about putting me in contact with a member of management or even somebody that could answer our questions. The guy provided me with the manager's phone number. The phone number that I was given was not a manager's phone number, it was the cell phone number of a really nice gentleman. Who said that he also called AHS several times to complain about their customer service and he provided his cellphone number to receive a call back from management and now AHS is giving out his number to everyone that ask for a manager's number. SAVE YOURSELVES THE HEADACHES. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON THIS SCAM!!!
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

Three toilets were getting stuck. The tech just put three new components in the tank. And then I had a stop at the kitchen sink, which he cleaned out adequately. I didn't get him to look at this leaky thing that was listed. That was both of our faults. Because he had it on his thing, and he didn't check it off, and neither did I. Other than that, everything went well. However, I live in the northern counties of Los Angeles County, which is the most populous county in the United States. And I live on the county to the north of it, which has a lot of people in itself. But American Home Shield chooses companies in the far side of LA, literally an hour and a half drive from my residence, to come and service me. They're not in my area, not even remotely in my area. And I don't like that at all. Sometimes they said, “Well, we have satellite people—” No.
I can't believe that there isn't a more local source. Sometimes there is, sometimes there isn't. I know American Home Shield does it because they want to get a cheap deal. It was not the same service I would get if I called up a local electrician. Because of the nature of the insurance, American Home Shield has to get people who will do the job for the least amount of money possible. It just doesn't make sense to me. It has been infuriating since I got them. Every time some of the contractors say, “Okay, this is the last time we’ll cancel.” Most of the time I've had good people. Other times, I did not feel comfortable with who the providers were.
This time, in both cases with the electric and the plumbing, the people who came to the house were very nice. But they make mistakes. It doesn't look like the people who answer the phone can make the appointments with the people that are going out in the field or doing stuff like that. But that's not the end of the world. It's just mostly that I have always been disturbed that a company as large as American Home Shield can't find a provider within 65 miles. We have 36 million people. I'm not helping out my local community.

I was utilizing people from around the area whenever I needed it until I saw the advertisement that American Home Shield had. They allowed us $75 for a winter check on the air conditioning that was why I called them. I still have to pay the $100 but the guy did a good job. He was very professional about it. The one thing that he mentioned was that he'd never seen an air conditioning unit and heating unit as clean as mine considering how old it was. He knew what he was doing and was very clean. I was very satisfied.

We had an old door opener and when the direct sunlight hit the garage door, you couldn't close it because the beams weren't connecting. The guy from Ace Garage Door came out and kind of played with it. That was in May, and a week later, it went back to how it was. I just played with it and finally, I got fed up and called again. He came out and said the only thing we can do is change it. He changed it. That's been about a week or so and I'm gonna call him again because I can't close the door when the sun directly hits it.
American Home Shield's claim submission process is very easy. My only problem is I live in Stockton. The guy for the plumbing came out from Modesto. The guy for the garage door came from Oakland. It would be nice if these guys were more local. I like to support local people. I'm sure the Ace Garage Door guy will come out and play with it and make it right. Overall, American Home Shield has taken care of everything I wanted.

We've had our American Home Shield policy for two years. They have repaired the timer on the washer and the timer on the dryer. We had a bad storm that blew out something in the central heating and air unit and they repaired that as well. And when the ice maker on the refrigerator quit working, a tech came out and evaluated the situation. He was back the next day and had the ice maker fixed. He was very pleasant, informative, and professional.
There was only one time that I had difficulty and that was with the central heat and air. Unfortunately, that happened during the summer and it was 24 hours before techs were able to come out and start the process. That aside, everything has been going well with American home Shield. Every time I had to contact them, techs came out, took care of the problem, and did it well. Submitting a claim was very easy too. I go online and fill out a form. Usually, within five minutes, the work is assigned to someone. Within that same day, techs are usually out there and evaluating what needs to be done.

Express Appliance did a good job. They did what they were supposed to do. They came and they checked the equipment and they tried to repair it. But my problem right now is with the delivery company. We're supposed to have a replacement refrigerator and we were told it was coming today but nobody called. I was singing American Home Shield praises until what happened today.
When I called American Home Shield, I waited for three hours on the phone. Then the next time I called, I waited for two hours for somebody to answer the phone. But this morning, I got someone in 10 minutes. I was pleased with the fact that American Home Shield was going to replace the refrigerator. But then now, there's no way to communicate with the people who are supposed to deliver the refrigerator. I don't even know when the refrigerator is coming. Overall, American Home Shield's program is excellent. Their service is good and their reputation of saying they'll replace the appliance is no problem. But now, the problem is saying that they're going to replace it and actually replacing it, and how to go from that transition.

The contractor was quick to come to the house to diagnose the problem as well as to get the part needed to repair the garage door opener. They were very professional and fast. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield used to be horrible but it’s getting better. The only drawback with them are those AC companies that they hire. Instead of hiring local people, they hire these massive companies that they operate in different states. They don't even have a local office and they're normally horrible. Last time, I had a problem with my heating and Total Air Care was completely horrible. I dealt with them a few times. Every time you deal with a local company from the town, you have the better outcome than dealing with those big companies.
Also, I’m a Spanish speaker but I’m one of the persons who refuse to press one for Spanish and two for English. When you call American Home Shield and wait to talk to a representative in the English speaking line, you can be on hold for 40 minutes. But if you press one for Spanish, it’s normally right away. You get a service, which is wrong in a way. You're in America and when you call to talk to somebody, it should be quicker to speak to somebody in English than somebody in Spanish. I'm finding that with most of the companies, not just with American Home Shield.

I had an issue with the microwave. I alerted American Home Shield through the online process and it was a piece of cake. It was one of the easiest ways. They deal in a professional way. I was informed. Every information was online. I could see who they are assigned. I got the call from the assigned contractor in the given timeframe. He then came and assessed the microwave, and he said that they needed to order the part. But it took a long time. It took a month and a half to get all the parts. They canceled the first appointment, and they reschedule the appointment. In-between, I had to buy a microwave. And they didn’t call me. They were just waiting for parts. When the part came, the tech said, “Oh, we need to replace this microwave.” Nothing for a month and a half, but they could have done it in the first appointment. But other than that, I love AHS. I've been recommending all of my friends and they all have AHS because of my own experience.

The part of the furnace that's inside the house started making noise when I turned it on for the heat. So Myers Comfort Specialists came out and they checked it. It needed a new roller part inside there. So, the tech replaced that for me. When I purchased the house last year, the owners paid American Home Shield for the year. Then I paid for it to renew. It's on myself now. So whenever I make a call in, they take the 125 payment first upfront. Then the company that is going to do the service call will call me and set up an appointment time for them to meet me at home.
American Home Shield doesn't have anything where they can try to do something more for emergencies. So if it had been an elderly person in the home with it having been this hot this summer, they'd have to stay shut up in the house two or three days in the heat until someone could actually come out and see about it for them. That was what I really didn't like. During the summer, my air conditioner went out because it needed a new motor on the outside unit part. Luckily, my kids weren't there but I did have two little house dogs that live in the house.
