The water heater was leaking water. Metro Air Services came and gave us an estimate to put everything up to code because, to replace our water heater, American Home Shield doesn't pay for anything that hasn't been put up the code. But the issue was that the company came up with another estimate afterward because the person that came out gave the wrong information and didn't do something right, so our cost went up higher for that.
We called American Home Shield and they said they couldn't help us with it because that was something that we have to talk to the company about. We talked to the company and they said that it was not their fault that it went up, it was the person that came out who didn't do it right. That was a little bit disturbing to us because we were told one price, and then we had to pay another price, and it wasn't small like $50, it was a whole $200. But then we did one claim with the AC unit where our drainage for our furnace was leaking. The company went out and replaced that. Everything was done properly.

We had a power outage because they shut down the power for maintenance in the area. When it came back on, none of the electrical outlets in my wife's office were working. It was very weird. The window the contractor gave us was from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM. I got a text from the company at 6:35 letting me know that the tech would be in the area in 10 minutes. So I went to the door. And as I got to it, I saw the tech pull up. So by 6:40, he was here. He came into the house, checked the outlet and said, "Show me the electrical panel." And I did. He opened it up. He took out a tester, tested the circuit and said, "I know exactly what's wrong." He flipped the breakers back and forth and said, "Go check." I went back to my wife's office and everything was working.
I went back out and told him that. He explained that that particular circuit breaker is a double gang circuit breaker. When you flip them off and on, you have to make sure that both of them flip together. Otherwise, it's possible that one may not flip completely. And I can look and see it will look like it's working, but it's not. That was it. And he closed everything back up. He said, “Thank you very much.” And I said, “Thank you.” He was gone. He was here for 10 minutes. It allowed my wife to use her office again. American Home Shield is worth the money.

I had some dampness and I needed a plumber to look at the issue. I submitted the claim online and I checked the status, which was quick after. It was within an hour. Whenever I looked back at the status, it said, “Contact this plumber to schedule a time.” I called the plumber, and they got out there within the next day or two. They were kind and were ready to help me.

The AC was not cooling. I did a claim online and someone contacted me on the same day. AHS had someone set it up to come out two days later but I ended up having to cancel it as I was going out of town. It ended up being two weeks, but that was because of me, not them. I was very pleased with the service I received from them and the repair place was very nice also.

Submitting a claim with AHS was very easy. Online stuff was amazing. I was able to do it from work. The company responded within a couple of hours. They came out the next day and recharged my AC system. The techs were awesome too.

We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

We're very satisfied with American Home Shield and knowing that everything is covered. All we have to do is call them. We enjoy the claim process and the technicians are very efficient and timely. Their guy Carl is great. He's very pleasant and he does his job. There was a bad switch and he replaced it.

I've had a number of things but everything seems okay now. I called American Home Shield and the techs came out and did what they were supposed to do. I'm very happy with AHS so far. Somebody else early on was offering the same service and I did not switch. Even though they were cheaper, AHS was a better deal.

Our refrigerator was not working. A technician from A & E Home Service came out and he replaced the compressor of the refrigerator and put some of the refrigerants, and checked it out, and it turned out well. When we called, we already told what was the problem, and he anticipated that the problem is the compressor of the refrigerator. So he had his own materials on his truck and he did the job real quick. He did a really good job and the problem was solved. Our refrigerator is working great now. American Home Shield has excellent service.

I love the service from American Home Shield. I have them on two homes, and I've had them for many years. I love the fact that if anything goes wrong, I can call them. Mostly everything that happens within my house is covered. I had a wire somewhere in my wall spark, and it blew up all of the sockets and the light in my living room. A contractor came in and fixed it. For the most part, I haven't had any issues. The contractors usually diagnose the problem and come on right back and fix it. But for some reason, I ain’t heard back from these people who were supposed to come do my ceiling fans.

The AC was leaking and it stopped working. When CTR Services came here, they told me they need to buy and replace the blower. They did and it’s still leaking. I contacted them and they told me I need to open another work order before they can come and fix it. Other than that, everything was okay. The warranty saves me in time of need when I don't have money. I don't have that much to pay for the blower but Home Shield provided.

My AC wasn’t functioning and it was very hot. So we requested a service. Most of it is done online, so I rarely call. A different company came and serviced it, but it didn't resolve the issue. The AC broke again within 30 days, so we had to call again. They said they would take care of that and they did. AHS assigned a new one, which was Masters Climate, and they resolved the issue. American Home Shield is doing a good job.

The bottom of my furnace was leaking water. I called and American Home Shield told us somebody would call us and I was thinking somebody was gonna call me the next day. The lady called me and it wasn’t even 20 minutes. I was talking to American Home Shield and had somebody come out the next day. When J&J Mechanical Repair came, it wasn’t leaking. It was just the ice that melt that was why the water was on the floor. The guy was nice and checked everything for us. He told us if anything is to go wrong, to give him a call. That was the first time of them ever coming out since I had American Home Shield and they did good. I’d recommend them to anybody. The other people who came out before J&J were good too. But I like J&J because normally when you call American Home Shield, you have to wait the next day. Sometimes, when you do talk to somebody the next day, they’ll come out that day or say, "I’m not gonna be able to get you in till the next following weeks.”
Every time I call American Home Shield, the people they send out are excellent. I only had one bad experience with them since I've been with them. It’s also cheaper having a home warranty versus if we’re gonna find somebody and they charge you even more than what you’re paying for your home warranty. I only have to pay $100 for American Home Shield to send the people to see what's wrong.

The customer service and coverage of AHS are really good. But when my washer needed a part that was not available for 30 days, they gave me an option of buying out and that's been a month now. I'm supposed to get a check in the mail to replace the one that I got and that hasn't happened. So, they're slow when they have to shell out money but really good in taking the money. They're the best home warranty company out there but there are more things that they can improve on, especially with their purchasing department when they want to procure spare parts for broken appliances.
Reviewed Sept. 24, 2021
Sometimes American Home Shield is very slow. I was without a dryer for almost two months. First of all, they assigned a contractor that never called me, and I was constantly calling them. They never answered or replied to a voicemail. I then called American Home Shield out on the third day and they said I needed to contact the contractor. Because I've been three more days without a dryer, I said, “No, I no longer want that company. You need to give me another one." They sent another company and they finally came out after four days, because they were booked up. After that company left, they said they ordered a part and would be back out. It was a week then I called the company. The rep said, “Well, that's too far for us to travel.”
When the last company came out, they too ordered parts. A week after that, I called them and asked, “Okay, are the parts not in?” They said, “Oh, American Home Shield is gonna replace it.” I said, “What? Then why nobody told me?” I had to call American Home Shield and the lady said, “I don't know what you're talking about.” After 30 minutes and transferring me around, I was finally told that yes, they were gonna give me a new dryer and would be contacting me. I said, “No, I'm on the phone now. We're going to get me a dryer now.” This is almost two months without a dryer.
Sometimes it's ridiculous what you have to go through to get things done. When Sears had their service, it was much better. I'm considering getting rid of American Home Shield. They can be horrible on some things like with my hot water heater two years ago. Every other month, it went out and they did not want to replace it. I said, “Okay, the man said he's replaced every part possible,” but they still did not want to replace the hot water heater and to me, that's ridiculous. They'll also send these companies out and the company will say, “Well, this isn't covered under your contract. But we can handle that for you.” You don't know if the company is intentionally doing that or not. It's crazy.
American Home Shield's response time and follow-up could be improved too. You should not have to wait, like I told them with my air conditioning. I’m oxygen-dependent. My air went out and I was here without air conditioning in 95-degree weather for four days. When you say you are doing an emergency dispatch, emergency to me means within 24 hours. Those are the worst problems with them. It's hard to get help as well. Now, they want to do this automated system, so you're on there 10 minutes before you get to a person. I don't want to go through all of that. When I’m having an emergency, I'd like a person and I shouldn't have to press 25 buttons to find one.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I will email you shortly as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

Our AC was acting up and we called American Home Shield a couple of weeks ago. Total Air Care came out and replaced the capacitor. Then on Saturday night, the AC unit stopped working again. When I called AHS, they put us back with Total Air Care and the guy came back out on Tuesday to see what he could do. He found out what was wrong with our AC unit but he said that he didn't know how to fix it and left. He didn't want to try to fix it and he didn’t offer to get someone else. My husband was ticked off because we hoped that we would have our AC back at that point. But there was no resolution. I'm seven and a half months pregnant and the heat has been messing with my health in all this. Fortunately, we're in a little bit of a cold front now. But at the time, I ended up staying with my folks.
We had been told by Total Air Care they could get us a new unit that Friday to be put in tomorrow. But at the same time that this guy was telling us he couldn't fix the reversing valve, we got a message from the sales guy with Total Air Care saying that the unit they were going to install in our house was no longer available and it would be about two weeks until we could get a new one. So, we called AHS again and asked for a second opinion or a different company to come out. We had another company come out yesterday and they're going to replace the AC tomorrow instead. The claims process with AHS was irritating. It was difficult to get through to who we have been talking to and so much of their responses back to us were like a script and it was very impersonal. But the good thing about it is that we were not on hold for 20 minutes. We got through the claims quickly.

Someone came out for the hot water heater. The guy was very knowledgeable and nice. I was asking him questions and he went above and beyond. Here in Texas, we have a lot of calcium buildup. The guy cleaned all that out and replaced some heater cores that were caked in calcium, which was the reason why my water was taking so long to heat up. The service was excellent and I was happy with that.
I have one issue right now with American Home Shield, which I'm disappointed in. My microwave's heater element went out and the guy that came out was cool. We looked at the microwave and the guy called back to the company to tell them it was probably better to replace the microwave instead of the part. The lady on there said, "No, we're just gonna order the parts." I was okay with that and thought maybe that won't take as long. But it's been over four months. I have two out of the three parts here in my house. I'm still waiting and haven't heard anything.
I was upset with how the claim has been handled. I don't know why we couldn't buy another microwave by now. It's $400 in parts or buying a microwave. In the end, I had to go buy a new microwave. I just hope we can solve this issue. That aside, I've called American Home Shield numerous amount of times and I haven't had any problem.

American Home Shield's claims process is easy as long as everything goes fine. When it doesn't, it's awful. Sometimes, a claim leads to a bigger item that needs to be fixed that they need to send someone out. Then, there's a discrepancy about what gets paid and how it gets paid. We've had one guy that came to work on the dishwasher and he was okay. But then, there was a contractor that needed to help us with our stove and and that's where we had the biggest problem overall.
The tech was supposed to come and check out the stove. He texted me on the way and I told him what was going on. He said that he didn't need to come out and that they needed to order some parts. Three weeks go by and I never heard from them. I finally tracked someone down and they said they had no record of any part being ordered. They also asked what I meant when I said that the tech didn't come out to my house and I read them the text messages from what happened. So, we had to wait for the appointment and when that guy came to the house, he had to order some new stuff. It took three weeks for them to get the new part so this whole repair, which should have taken a week or two, ended up taking almost two months.
And in the process of talking to the company, they were blaming American Home Shield. I called American Home Shield and they said I had to talk to the company because they dispatched them, which wasn't helpful at all. I just kept getting fingers pointed in both directions and finally I had to see it through with the contractor and figure it out myself. Aside from that, whenever I call American Home Shield, the people are lovely, but they're reading from a script. With some of them, you can tell that English is not their primary language and they have no latitude to do anything, then that continues to be a frustration point.

When I need AHS, they're there. When I call American Home Shield, it's an hour or two wait. But going on the app, my claim went right through and it told who the contractor was and how to contact them. On Monday morning, they called me and we set the appointment up for Tuesday. So, I'm very pleased. I had a problem with my air conditioner that was shutting down and the guy found what the problem was. He fixed it. I was a little worried because I did research on him and he does not have the best rating. But the guy was fantastic and very professional. He even went above and beyond and asked me to change my filter 'cause I have a high ceiling. He was very good and I was very satisfied.

We bought a new house and I got American Home Shield on it. We’ve had two visits so far. We had a plumber come in and he did three different things. That was good. We also had an electrician who was supposed to figure out why there was no power getting to an outlet but he couldn't figure that out. When I called the company about it, the first thing that they told me was that they weren't going to accept the claim because they thought that it would require pulling out the island that it's on. I asked them if I could get a second opinion and they said I could but I would have to pay another $100 fee. I asked why I was still gonna have to pay the $100 fee on the previous call when they weren't able to do anything about it and they said that they were going to escalate it to a supervisor. I never heard back from them since. I'm pretty sure that outlet is not gonna get looked at.
American Home Shield needs to improve on their communication. Every time I call in, I have trouble communicating with the people at the call center. I had American Home Shield at my old house and I had better experiences with them, but it was difficult to talk to somebody there because it was hard to understand them.

The dishwasher had some leaks going on. The repairman was showing me all the stuff that was wrong with it. It wasn't draining that was why I called American Home Shield. This is the second time I had to call someone out about the dishwasher. In fact, when I called someone back out in December, I've never used the dishwasher. They never fixed it the first time and I have to pay every time they come out here. It'll be nice to know that it was never fixed to begin with.
The problem that I had with it is the contractor didn't even pull the dishwasher out. I got a dishwasher in my house that has outstanding water in it, and I got another dishwasher sitting in the floor of my living room. I'm really disappointed. The dishwashers that American Home Shield gave me to choose from had to be measured based on the person who was out here and I never had someone who does installation not know how to do the job, no matter what the issue is.
I have hardwood floors, and right under there, the people who put the dishwasher in didn’t cut all that they needed to put the dishwasher in. They said they're not allowed to do that and I would have to call American Home Shield back because someone needs to cut it. Once that gets done, they’ll come back out and install it. I didn’t get to see what they were talking about. If they didn't even try to put the dishwasher in there, I don't understand how they know if it will go in there or not. I did call American Home Shield and they said that I will have to hire a contractor to fix the floor then call them back, and they will call the people back out to install the dishwasher. I also had someone come out here for my ice machine. I called the man who fixed the ice machine back directly. He told me I needed to do this and that but I don't know anything about ice machines which was the reason why I called American Home Shield in the first place.

I had trouble with a combination stove oven. It was a commercial brand but it was not a commercial gas stove and oven. Technicians fixed that one time. But when they came back a second time, they wouldn't fix it. They said it was a commercial product and they didn't service commercial products. That was a big inconvenience. I don't understand how you walk into somebody's house and see the appplaince in their kitchen, you classify the appliance as a commercial product. Perhaps, larger products than mine that are made by the same manufacturer are used in restaurants. But mine wasn't. I was forced to find an independent person even though I had been paying for the home warranty to do the repair work on the oven.
There was also a time when I had an air conditioning unit replaced. American Home Shield approved of me finding my own servicer due to them not being able to locate somebody that can take care of me within my region. The person that replaced the unit handwrote his invoices and they weren't preprinted. American Home Shield claimed that he was not a legitimate licensed service even though he had a license number. That wound up being discounted down to $600. $500 of that was out of my pocket unnecessarily. That was an inconvenience.
I had several things done that I'm thoroughly pleased about, but not everything. Technicians worked on my refrigerator a couple of times and they fixed it admirably. I had two air conditioner issues that were resolved in the last two months. In most cases, the technicians did an excellent job. Right now, the things that I'm having requesting to be repaired are being taken care of admirably. But I had a ceiling fan that technicians couldn't fix. I also had an air conditioner unit that American Home Shield wouldn't pay for after I had it installed. Also, not everybody that works there tries to locate the closest most qualified servicers. Another thing is when I make a claim and I get someone that speaks English and that is American, it's excellent. But if I get someone from another country, it's very trying to get to communicate.

If something goes wrong in my house, it's very easy to put in the claim with AHS to have somebody come out. People have been very good about responding back and scheduling something. It's nice that that's all taken care of. They replaced my furnace last year and it only cost about $1,500. So that was nice that it was discounted at such a rate.
My bigger concern is that, a couple of times I have had to have people come back out. I had an issue with my bathtub where it was leaking. The plumber came out and he fixed it. But it leaked worse than it was actually running. It ran through and it made wet on my ceiling downstairs in the kitchen underneath the bathroom. The plumber denied that he could have done it. I was like, “But it wasn't here before you came, and now it's here.” He said, “Nope, I'm here to fix the nozzle.” He had to come back out and he was very crabby that he had to come back out.
Sears came out recently. They replaced the igniter on the oven because it wasn't lighting at all. Now the igniter lights. But when we turned it on for the first time, there might have been a gas buildup in the oven because there was an explosion. Gas filled up my house. They're scheduled to come back out on the 29th, which is late. But when I deal with American Home Shield, it's fine. They get somebody right back out. The issue is more with the service providers.

AHS is a mixed record. As long as things are going well, it's fine. The moment we hit a hiccup, that can become a big issue. Recently, yhe contractor hit the nail and American Home Shield hit the nail on the head perfectly. The garbage disposal essentially imploded. It was beyond fixing. And it was fixed very promptly, so we were very happy with that. I was very happy with the American Home Shield also. My experience with the vendors were beyond anybody's control. But most of the folks who come to our house have been very good.
This particular experience with Sundance, from start to go, everything was fine. We had this experience where a gentleman came to fix the washer. And he mumbled something, "You need to clean it more," and left. We always cleaned it, and we cleaned it even more. It still wasn't fixed. So, I brought this to AHS' assistance. They put us in contact with the same company again, which is standard procedure. That is fine. We made an appointment. The guy didn't show up. We made another appointment. The gentleman showed up very early as I was taking my daughter to a gymnastics class. And this gentleman could not understand why I couldn't let him into the house. "Well, I don't know who you are. I don't have an appointment. You're supposed to call me," et cetera. "In any case, I'm leaving now."
AHS made another appointment with me with a young woman who was very nice. And she said she would be here at a certain time. She called me five hours late, saying she had car problems. She made an appointment on Saturday. Without asking my permission, she changed that to a Monday of the following week. So, this case got protracted.
I finally brought this to American Home Shield's attention, that because I pay them 80 bucks for the first visit, I understand AHS needs to go back to them. But how many times do I need to go through this before AHS decides it's not working out? I understand with outsourcing I'm speaking to one person in the Philippines. The next time, the person might be in India and God knows where. They're all lovely people. But all of them are following a standard operating procedure. AHS is awesome when things are going well. But when it comes to hiccups, that standard operating procedure doesn't always work. It's very easy to say, "Sir, I understand. I appreciate you've tried four times now to accommodate this company." And if anything, they should be accommodating us.
I wish AHS would listen to their customers and sometimes show a bit of flexibility in a case where the customer has shown good faith. On numerous times, the rep tried to make an appointment with this company. They kept dropping the ball. I'm busy. I have an 11-year-old I have to take care of because my wife is an accountant. So, she works late hours, tax season and all that jazz. A lot of things we're trying to juggle around, and COVID on top of it. So, in those circumstances, AHS needs to show up. My wife and I were on the verge of changing companies.

The problem that we had, it was the machine of the garage door. The tech said he couldn't do anything for us and it was gonna cost us $399 if we wanted to get the whole unit repaired and replaced. So, I tried to speak with him about our situation but he was adamant that he was not going to cover it and that we would have to pay for the full replacement of the unit. That's not right. We should not have to pay for that. One of the reasons why we have American Home Shield is for this situation.
This is the second time that we had a situation with a vendor. When I had my water heater blow up, a company that was going to install a water heater came. They made all these claims and said that my piping was out of code so they would have to do all this. It was going to cost me an additional $1,200 that wasn't going to be covered under warranty. I asked him to put it in writing and give me a quote. I immediately called Bell Brothers, a highly reputable 5-star, triple-A-plus service. Bell Brothers checked everything out and the tech said, "You are 100% in compliance with all codes. There's nothing that needs to be done here. And they were just trying to scam you.”
I ended up going back to American Home Shield and they were gracious enough to give me my allowance for that cost. Then, I had Bell Brothers do the job and I just paid for the rest of their services. When I do the claim process through American Home Shield, it works just fine. The unfortunate thing for AHS is that their reputation is based on the vendors that are coming out in response to claims that go through them and they can't monitor all their vendors. So when I have someone that does me wrong, that's a reflection on AHS.

There was a very loud noise when I flushed the toilet in the guest bathroom. The guy from Honesty Mechanical was able to fix it within minutes. He was efficient and knew exactly what to do. There was a call before that that was a horrible experience. Parts were not here and I was getting the runaround from the third party. And the last gentleman who actually came and fixed it, his customer experience is optimal, and that was his goal. I wish I had dealt with him first. But he was just the last person who would come by. Even with phone calls and just complaining and providing feedback, nothing was remedied outside of when that gentleman showed up and fixed the issue. He made my day.
The first guy said there was a part that was needed. It wasn't available. I had to wait over a weekend. Then it turned into a week or two, and then there was no call back. I had to reach out to them to say, "What's the status?" Nobody called back. It was a hot mess. I was pissed off because it was a major inconvenience. Finally, when I got somebody, this last gentleman showed up, and he was just like, "All they had to do was call this place. This place has the part, and it's across town. If you are going to be here, I'll go get it, and I'll be back." I said okay and that was exactly what he did. Overall, American Home Shield's service has been so far, so good. Sign up with them.

We've done two claims with American Home Shield so far. Getting a claim started is really easy. But it takes quite a while to get updates and to get them pushed through. I sent in my first claim for the furnace at the beginning of February but we did not get it resolved until June. It was quite a wait but we got paid to replace the furnace. My second claim was for my refrigerator and we got the results in quite quick. We got a new refrigerator because our refrigerator wasn't serviceable. But I still have not got the check for this claim and it's been a couple of weeks now. I tried to find an update on my check that was supposed to be being released but I can't find anything when I go online. So I'm gonna have to call American Home Shield now and wait on the phone. There have been times I've waited on the phone for over half an hour just for somebody to call me back. It was not pretty.
When I have called American Home Shield to check on my prior claim, some of the customer service people have been rude. I’d asked to talk to upper-tier people and sometimes I get them but sometimes I don't. Sometimes they would say, “Oh, well, here he is.” But he really was not. A lot of times they said, “We will call you back on this day.” But I don't get a call back. Or they’ll say, “Well, your claim was just put in. We need 24 to 48 hours.” But I literally have to call 48 hours later to get an update.
The technicians have been great. The last gentleman that I had was very cordial. He called back because he checks on all his claims and he was giving me an update before American Home Shield did. But overall, it has really paid for us to have the warranty. Because otherwise, we would have been several thousand dollars out of our pocket.

I'm happy with American Home Shield's service. Going online and making a request is easy-peasy. But about a year and a half or so ago, I added their electronics package and I found it extremely difficult. I never got the service that I was supposed to have gotten. I found I had to call a different phone number and I had to give them everything all over again. And it was like pulling teeth to explain to them what the problem was. The young lady asked me to send my desktop along with my monitor and she said that she would send me a box and a label. They charged me the $75 ahead of time, which I'm used to, and then the box came and it wasn't big enough. It wasn't even enough for my CPU.
I called them back about a week later and they said they would send out another box. I called about four times - each time to be told that a box was on its way but the box never came. About a month or so into it, I decided that I just wanted my money back and I didn't want them to service it because it was ridiculous how many times I had to call. I kind of found it surprising that when I called the other phone number and I told them that I wanted to cancel the electronics part, they didn't even want to know why because I really wanna tell somebody that the service from the electronics part sucked and it was impossible.
The other issue that I'm having right now is it took almost a week for them to cancel my service. No one could do it or they didn't have the authority or kept getting error messages. I was transferred to about four people. One person was kind enough to help me and wanted to stay on the phone with me while he transferred me to another department to see if they could help me. That lady from that other department kind of wanted to help, but at the same time, she kept putting us on hold. Then she came back and said she was not gonna be able to help me with the other representative on the phone. I had to get off the phone with him. But he was polite enough to call me back. The lady canceled it and he confirmed that it was canceled.
When I did a claim about a week and a half ago, I spoke with someone because the package that I had was not the package that I was supposed to have. They said they were having issues right now and asked me to call them back in a couple of hours so that they could make sure that they change my plan. I was too annoyed that day and I've yet to call them back.
Other than those, it works in our favor every time someone comes out, although there was one time someone came out to look at our control panel on our oven and they said they were going to order the part. The next thing I know, American Home Shield sent out a whole new different company. But they fixed it the control panel so that was fine. Recently, the cartridge was messed up inside of our shower handle. It was keeping us from being able to either turn it on or if we were able to get it on, to turn it off. MacLin Plumbing Company was able to get me an appointment that morning. The gentleman called and told me he was on his way. He fixed the issue in 10 minutes and now, it works wonderfully.

He is very good at what he does, and when he didn't know something, he was honest enough to say he didn't know how to do that. American Home Shield's service is helpful and they do an excellent job, but it was a shocker that even though you're paying monthly, when you get to use them, you have to pay $100 for everything. If it's something separate, like my kitchen appliances, it’s $100. That fits under that $100 if I need something fixed at that time, but if it's not, I have to pay another $100. They need to tell people that.

American Home Shield is not what it’s claimed to be. I used it when I was in Miami Beach two times. One was an issue with my stove that had a loose connection in one of the burners. It took forever for the technician to come then, after all, back and forth, he finally got there. The other claim was for my air conditioning unit. They said it was old and they couldn’t fix or replace it because they don't do that with old units. I wasn't expecting to be given a brand-new unit, but at least help me mitigate the cost of a new one. That wasn’t the case though. AHS is insurance that you're buying in case something goes really bad.
Recently, I had work done with my AC. I knew what it was, but I was hoping that some parts could be replaced while they could. It’s an old AC unit, but the technician explained to me that it’s still in very good shape. It was a good experience. The contractor said an electrical surge caused the problem which is a capacitor that fried so they didn't fix anything. I'm gonna have to do it out of pocket. It’s an AC unit. It’s powered by electricity. I don’t know what would be covered. If a tornado picks up a tree and it takes it out with a tree, I guess it would be covered then, but anything else, I guess not. That’s probably the only capacitor that's ever been in that unit. That unit’s about 20 years old, but we can’t call that wear and tear because a power surge blew it up. If I pay this money and American Home Shield is supposed to cover an item but they're not gonna cover that in the end, what’s the point of me having this then? It is frustrating.

The last contractor that came and did work in my home on the air conditioning was Delta Heating and Air, they were the best company that I've ever run across through American Home Shield. This particular claim was very, very good. But there have been some times where I have found it a little bit frustrating that I've had to wait two or three days to get someone out to take care of a client. It seems like new contractors become affiliated with American Home Shield to get their name out and build market share, and then they're no longer with American Home Shield. Unfortunately, some of these newer contractors do not necessarily have the tools nor the expertise to do the work to my satisfaction.
About nine months ago, we had an issue with the drain in the master bathtub and the plumber that came out did not know how to handle the issue. He threw up his hands, called the supervisor, and they essentially alleged that I had broken something trying to do it myself, which was totally untrue. So, when it was all said and done, I ended up hiring another contractor at my expense to take care of it and I came real close to dropping my coverage with American Home Shield at that time. That first company came out twice, and they didn't fix the problem. They didn’t look at anything other than the door not staying closed. I said, “I duct-taped it shut.” That was the way I thought it would remedy it not freezing up, but it kept freezing up anyway. I had them out again, and they said there was nothing wrong with it.
The last company that came out, Sharper Services, fixed the problem that I had from the beginning. Their guy knew right away what it was. He said it was the fan. My Realtor paid $500 for the warranty when I moved in then I paid an additional $150 plus another $75 to have the same problem finally fixed. That was the only issue I had and it was frustrating. The air conditioning had stopped turning on when it was pretty warm out and inside the house. So, I opened the ticket with AHS and Koalafied came out. Their tech was able to look at the air conditioning and told me that the transformer in the furnace had went out, then one of the capacitors in the air conditioning unit also went out. So he replaced both of those. The AC started working for about a week and it went out a second time. So I reopened the ticket and Koalafied came back out the second time. They said that it looked like the transformer that went out the first time went out the second time, so they replaced it the second time. Everything was working after that but three weeks later, the air conditioner stopped working again.
So I reopened the ticket again and AHS sent Koalafied back out the third time. This time, the tech said that it seemed like the system board was causing the transformer to fail, so he wanted to replace the system board inside of the furnace. He said that that would most likely take care of the problem, so he did that and the AC has been working since.
I submit my claims with AHS online and when I put the ticket in for this claim, I got a response first time within a couple hours. Then, Koalafied was on site the same day to take a look at the problem, so I was very happy with the service. The technician did a great job of staying with the problem until it was resolved. Plus, American Home Shield took interest and they were able to get somebody out to take care of my problems. American Home Shield takes the contract seriously and they have qualified people to work on the equipment. American Home Shield also said that if they couldn't fix the unit, they would replace it. There's something wrong with your AC. Do you want my guy to come out?" I told him I have a home warranty company, and that I would give them a call and have them look at it for me. They tried doing it the next day, but that didn't work with our schedule. They came the day after.
The tech told us that the coil was leaking and that it was unrepairable. I said, "Okay. So they're gonna have to replace the unit upstairs?" And he said yes. I got a call from them later saying that they would just replace the coil, and that it would cost me somewhere around $1,000 out of pocket to recharge the system. I said, "Well, he said it was unrepairable." And he said, "Well, the coil is unrepairable, but we want to replace it." I said it's a 21-year-old unit. I don't want to pay $1,000 to recharge it when I had to pay to recharge it last year. So they said they will call the AC company back and tell them to change the ticket to a replacement. When I did that, the AC guy said that they wouldn't let him change it to a replacement. So nothing has been done yet.
I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield because they just want to put a Band-Aid on it instead of replacing it. So I don't want to keep paying every year to recharge the system. We're very happy with the great service that we've gotten since we've had American Home Shield. It took four days for the tech to come out from when I first did the claim for the AC. Then, he added Freon, and then he came back yesterday to make sure that it didn't have a leak and we didn't lose more Freon, and he vacuumed it yesterday. It took two visits to have it fixed.

Our recent claim was an issue with our kitchen sink. The contractor was able to resolve it. The actual process itself of calling in and getting a person to come out is fairly simple, online or on the phone. However, there have been a handful of claims that were resolved with no issue, but enough heartburn over a couple of other instances where it has soured our experience a bit.
We've had some issues with how some claims have been approved or not. There have been opportunities where we feel the claim should have been covered. American Home Shield claimed them to be pre-existing but they weren't. The example that was most frustrating was a new home purchase. There was an issue with the heating and AC system. But AHS did not cover it because they claimed it was pre-existing. So, essentially everything was pre-existing if we're talking about a new purchase because we couldn't have known there was an issue. But it was inspected by a certified inspector, and no other things were found prior.
Also, we've had some issues in the past with less-than-ideal work performed. AHS should allow us to choose the contractor that comes out. We've had some varied experiences with different levels of repair teams that have come out. So, we've had to specify which one we did or did not want to come, versus it being a potluck at times, where they just dispatch whoever was available.
You could go a couple of years and pay close to two grand for coverage and never use it, or you could have multiple breakdowns. But just be very thorough in reviewing what would make it eligible and not eligible so you understand what coverage entails so you can weigh out that financial decision. There have been some components that we've had break down, and American Home Shield has benefited us. And there have been other times when it felt like it made the process harder.

When I signed up with AHS, they gave me a price and the guy who signed me up gave me a $125 discount, off the yearly price if I paid in full. I paid 675. But then, a month later, I got this invoice for 125 in the mail as a past due. I called them. The guy told me that, "Don't worry about that invoice. We'll take care of it and we'll go through the call log and listen to the call for the guy who committed with you. And if he said that, then we will honor it." But then, they never honored it.
The last time, when I had to get service done, I wasn't able to create the service request on their website until I paid the outstanding balance of 125. I had to go ahead and pay it. I just felt bad about that because they promised something, but then they, later on, didn't follow through on that promise. Then, the thing got a little bit worse than that because I just got yesterday another statement and it's showing 125 amount due, even though I've paid it. I haven't had a chance to log on to the website to see if it's an older invoice. But overall, with the ability for them to send someone to take care of an issue, I've been very happy with AHS overall. My most recent claim was the garage door. It came loose, so it wouldn't move. The motor was running, but the garage door was stuck. The guy came in and saw that there are sensors on the door that allow it to stop and go and those sensors were not working. He cleaned them. It's been working fine since then.

I would press buttons on the dishwasher, and other things would light up. Depending on what I would push, there was a sudden change. The icemaker would leak water into the bottom of the freezer, and that would fill up with water, then it would start overflowing. The guys who came out to fix our stuff were a bit late in terms of how long it took, but they had to order the parts and they said that that was running late. But I've had a good experience. I called American Home Shield back a couple of times to get the status. They said that the appliance parts have been ordered and waiting for delivery. A contractor came out once before to fix the fridge. They were good at that point, too. AHS is the best insurance that I ever bought. It paid for itself in terms of not only getting the stuff fixed, but the service as well. The contractors were experienced, helpful and friendly. I would probably even renew my subscription when it expires.

This is my second home that has a American Home Shield home warranty. I can navigate to see my old one and my new one all in one portal. Recently, the outlets, the lights, and the fans on my back porch were not working. I put in a claim and on my online portal, it told me who the contractor was and their phone number. The electrician who came was very polite. We walked around the house together and communicated well. He pulled one of the electrical outlets that was outside off the wall and said that there was a wire loose. It was kind of moving in and out of the receptacle. He hardwired it to where it wouldn't do so. Yesterday, we were having the same issue again so I tried to call him but he didn't answer. I was also gonna send a follow-up claim, but it was going to charge me another $100, so I backed out of that until I can talk to him.
We've been pleased with American Home Shield. They've worked every claim that we've put in. We had to do a complete HVAC redo and rebuild. The contractor they sent out for that job wanted to replace some parts on a 22-year old air conditioning system and I felt like that was not going to work. They allowed me to hire my own contractor. They've been extremely flexible in helping us resolve the issues. They 70% of it and we paid 30%, and we got a new system installed. The only issue I had was the whole time that it took me to get somebody on the phone. I spent a total of four hours on hold waiting for someone to answer the phone. It was in the middle of covid and that could have been a big part of it, that their call center couldn't be fully staffed, but that was always an issue that we had.

I sent in a claim for my garbage disposal and the process was great and pretty quick. It took a day or two for the plumbing company to get ahold of me. I paid the $100 deductible and then they came out. It was great. The plumbing company took a look at my garbage disposal and they determined immediately that it needed to be replaced. They left and got the new part and then came back and installed it. Everything works perfectly great.

I liked the guy that came out this last time for the dishwasher and he came in a timely manner. Every other time I've called, the soonest the company could get me in was a week and a half out. I called American Home Shield to cancel, ‘cause I was paying so much every month for nothing, but the rep said, “We can get somebody out there ASAP,” and somebody came out the following day. It’s the first time that had happened, and things went very smoothly too. The four times before that though, not so much.
When my washer wasn't working, American Home Shield had a repair company come out and they told me it was fine. It obviously was not, but they wouldn't come back out. We had to call AHS, pay another $100 then someone came out and, again, told me it was fine. It wasn't, and we had to replace it. That claim was a joke. With our AC, the guy that came out said, “We can do a cheap fix, but you’re gonna end up in a couple of months with no AC.” We had to replace that as well. Just recently, it was the dishwasher and they’ve come out three times for it in 30 days. First, it was fine then the second time, it was a part.
American Home Shield didn't charge me for the last service call, but I would not recommend them at all. Customer service is tough. When I have to call about the claims that I put in, I speak to the same person and she's rude and not helpful, especially with the first issue with the washer and dryer. She doesn't let me talk and just says, “You have to put in another claim.” It's a vicious circle that never ends. We shouldn't have had to, but we ended up just replacing the units.

I've had a few claims recently. When I had a leak in the bathroom, the toilet was busted, and they ended up putting a brand-new one in. I also had an electrical problem with the fan in my living room. It turned out to be the switch and not the actual fan. The repairman just switched out the part for me. The one before that was for my air conditioner that wouldn't come on anymore. The guy came out, and it turned out to be the thermostat, which he replaced.
I've been very impressed with the service I've gotten. I tried to schedule appointments in the past, and it was hard to get people to come to the house where I live in Coalinga ‘cause it's out in the country. On the other hand, when American Home Shield schedules appointments, they follow up with text messages to let me know who it is the job has been assigned, what day they're going to show up and then the people show up. I really liked that.
I also like the policy that when they come out, there is no other charge above the service fee. There's a $75 charge to have somebody come out, but that's all that you pay. They replaced my toilet and I know it runs $100. I got excellent value for the money that I paid and if anything, that's what I would wanna get across to somebody. I've recommended American Home Shield. My sister and both of my best friends now use them. When they bought their homes, they insisted on going with American Home Shield rather than a different warranty company, because you can ask your real estate agent to put that in the contract.

With my recent claim, A&M Valley Appliance took care of my dishwasher issue and they did a great job. Submitting a claim has gotten a little better recently until this fan thing happened. I'm having a problem with it since May when a contractor came to repair it and they didn't have one that was comparable to mine. They said they would let American Home Shield know and to give me more money because the fan was not the same quality. I never got a callback. I've called three times, and in those times, they said they're gonna send me a letter and the money, and none of those has happened yet. American Home Shield should do what they said they were going to do so I don't have to chase them down again every time.
Another thing is that when they said I had to renew and I told them to do it, I never went to all the procedures where they would ask me if I still wanted things covered from my previous policy. When I called for my pool about three months later, they said that it was not covered. I told them that the pool has been covered all these years and all of a sudden, it was taken off. They told me that since I didn't say I wanted the pool, they took it off. That's the new policy. I told them that no one explained that to me. I'll be surprised when I do a claim and maybe it didn't get taken care of. I've been with American Home Shield for a long time and I was never as dissatisfied as I am now.

It would never come back down until the sun went down, and then it would cool back off. I called it in to American Home Shield and it was one of the best experiences I've had. The contractor reached out then the technician came to the house and fixed and repaired what I asked him to. He did a great job, and he also sent me a detailed invoice on what he did with pictures.
I would keep that contractor. The technician communicated, did what he said he was gonna do, and was professional. If he was running late, he'd let me know. The contractor came out and replaced the fan motor and the capacitor for the fan motor. They also checked out the rest of the system and made sure that it had enough Freon in it, and did a couple of load checks on it to make sure it wasn't drawing too much power when starting up. I've been trying to get my refrigerator repaired since April of this year and the technicians or the companies that American Home Shield used were not good. The ice maker was broken and the first company that was sent ordered a new one, which took a long time to get in, then came back out to replace it, and it wouldn't come out. They decided that it needed a whole new door then waited 14 weeks for that to come in. The guy came out, decided he couldn't do it, and just left the new door sitting in my garage.
The second company didn't want to come to the house. They wanted to do an online appointment or over the phone appointment, which if they don't do something hands-on, they won't know what the problem is. This was about two weeks ago and I haven't heard anything. My policy expires this week so the problem I've been trying to get fixed since April still isn't resolved.
Then my AC was making a loud noise and shaking the house. The guy came out and straight up told me that unless he sees the problem right then and there, the warranty company won't cover it. I’ve have American Home Shield for over 10 years and their claims process is okay, but I'm not happy with the service. One of the main reasons we kept the home warranty is in case our AC went out and recently, we are having problems with it. When the techs came out, AHS declined to pay for their portion. The cost was $2,500 and they said we would had to pay half of that. It was a considerable amount and and when we didn't want to pay, they said that they denied the claim. I looked at my contract and I don't know if the contract has changed over the years. I didn't even take the time to research, but I've seen that for an AC unit, they have a cap that all they’ll pay is $1,500.
If they wanted us to pay that amount, it should be for a whole AC unit. But they weren't even replacing the outside unit. It was just something that was in the attic. They said it had some corrosion on it from condensation so, they chose not to pay for it. But I pay them $80 a month and I've been doing it for 10 years. So, I think that our service should have been covered.
Other than that, the techs came out on the same day the problem happened even when we were in the middle of a tropical storm. So, I appreciated them coming out. It's just frustrating that AHS wouldn't take care of the problem. Once before we had a hot water heater that went out and we still had to pay a considerable amount. We also contacted them to fix our microwave door and we've had to call the techs out a couple times about this same microwave but it's still not fixed. They had to order the part and the techs have yet to come out and replace it. And it’s been two months since our service call. They called in to finally say the part was in and that they would be scheduling us. But they have not done so.

But on the day that I put in those claims, I put in the microwave as well and it took over a month for American Home Shield to find somebody to come over to the house for that. They couldn't find anybody because we're in Fort Stockton. They were looking in Odessa, which is an hour and a half away from here. They barely found one not too long ago but the process of them having to find somebody to come down was so much. Also, my microwave is manufactured in 1999 and I’m thinking they're going to want to come and try to fix it but it’s very old.
Another thing was when we had an AC problem, the AC people had to come over five times. American Home Shield explained to me that it's a process that they have to go through to see if they can get it fixed. Then, if it's not fixable, they can replace the product or whatever the problem is. The thing that I hate is that I understand they would first come out and see if they can fix it. I said, “Sure. No worries. Try.” I've had this before on the dryer and American Home Shield found aftermarket parts to fix it. It was what I was kind of hoping they would do here. But now, we started running into problems. About a week, I hadn’t heard back from this guy. I had a cellphone number because he told me to text him. I waited a while longer and texted him again. He was like, “Still waiting on Whirlpool.” I said, "Okay. Well, I'm calling Whirlpool myself now at this point. It’s been two weeks and I'm gonna ask them what gives.” Whirlpool said, “Well, we're still waiting to hear from the guy.” Their stories didn’t jibe. So I said, “Why don’t you get in touch with him yourself and ask him what gives. Because I've asked him and he said he's waiting on you.” Another week passes and I texted him again. He finally said, “They’ll fix your washer because can't get parts.” I said, “Well, all right. That's great.”
I knew that American Home Shield needs to find parts or they'd replace the dryer. I called Whirlpool that same day and they echoed exactly what the other guy said. So, I called Home Shield the next day and they said, “Yes. They can't fix it. We're gonna take their word for it and we're gonna replace your washer for you.” I said, “Okay.” They sent me a list of 30 different washers. Maybe about half were no cost to me in any shape, form or fashion. I picked one, and that's been a couple of weeks ago now. Thank goodness our washer still works. It's just really noisy. But I'm supposed to get my new washer delivered today.
When it gets here, I'm supposed to let AHS know. Then they're gonna send out somebody to install it. It is roughly equivalent to the one that I had. They suggested that I get the top-of-the-line model because I had a top-of-the-line Maytag. The only problem is the top-of-the-line model doesn't fit the location physically. It's too deep. It's a closet depth model instead of a regular countertop depth kind of model. So, I ordered the one right down below that one, which was about a couple hundred dollars difference, but I was fine with that.
I wish I hadn't had to wait in the middle there and do all that legwork on my own just to find out what this repair guy and Whirlpool were doing. I think there was a little foot-dragging on both parts there, but all in all, I'm satisfied with it. I've had American Home Shield for a number of years, and I've always had successful relationship with them. So, I'm happy.

The techs were here for five minutes and took the serial number from the microwave. But after two weeks with no response, I called them and followed up on my order. They mentioned that they were waiting on American Home Shield to approve the door handle and it was pretty much the whole door that was going to be ordered. Then, there was going to be some type of approval for the keypad. Another three to four weeks went by and they mentioned that they were still waiting on American Home Shield to approve it. I called them again and they said the same thing. Finally, after the microwave when went out and stopped working, I requested to speak with one of the managers there and that was when everything was resolved.
The claim started in May and it was totally resolved this month. In the end, we need to purchase a new microwave and we just received the check from AHS. They have been great. There's always a live representative and I like that if there's a long wait, there's an option to call back the customer. I hurt my back during this process and I haven't been able to go to the store. But I'm hoping that we will be able to make the purchase over the weekend then at that point, have someone install it.

We had a water heater that was leaking and I called American Home Shield back on the 13th of this month. Between then and now, I've called American Home Shield half a dozen times. After almost two weeks, we finally got somebody to call us and said we could pay for it. If we got a local plumber to come out and do the work, we'd have to pay for it. Then he’d have to jump through some hoops and paperwork back to American Home shield, and then he'd give me some paperwork. Then I'd have to text or email it to American Home Shield. About four weeks later, I might get a check for a portion of what we expected to get. So, that leaves me at an area where I'm not real happy.
At this point, my wife and I have been without a toilet for a week and a half, and it makes it quite inconvenient for 82-year-old people. I've heard, "We're gonna do the job." But it hasn't been done. This experience has been totally unpleasant, and there may be an avenue for us to get the thing done, but it's gonna cost us arm and leg. We thought we had insurance and according to the contract, we do. But the plumbers that we've talked to that's dealt with American Home Shield are not very happy about it.

The compressor wouldn't turn on. Every time the AC would start to engage, the breaker would trip and it wouldn't do anything. It was bad timing, too, because it broke on a Friday before a holiday weekend. Oak Heat and Air came out the next Monday so that was three days but I know they were already swamped, so I wasn't expecting same day service. I gave the tech a brief summary of what was going on and he checked the unit. He gave me a rundown of what to expect on the service, especially with the coolant not being paid in full by American Home Shield. He gave me a brief expectation of what I could possibly expect to pay out of pocket in addition to my copay stuff. That was helpful.
I've not had any problems with stuff getting kicked back with American Home Shield because it wasn't covered. The only thing is a phone app with SMS or phone direct notification would be nice. Not everybody has access to email or stuff like that so they won't get all those updates about the technician that’s been sent out or who they're dealing with.

I set it up online then I had to call and speak with someone three times to get somebody assigned to my claim. It took two days for someone to come out. The technicians didn't even go in and just said they don't work on wall unit ACs. I had to get American Home Shield to assign somebody else. They came out and did the same thing. I called 3 Boys a couple of times and they said that they were waiting for the parts to come in from the home warranty because they ordered the parts. I tell people about American Home Shield all the time. However, I don't like where we have to pay $75 when we’re already paying $60 a month. Also, the technician who came recently was rude. He came in the house and checked the unit. We replaced the filter in the house. It didn't need to be replaced but I replaced it anyway since he was going to service it. When we were in the house, I was asking him about the unit outside. When we got outside, I was showing him and told him, “I know you guys are coming over to fix it because it's broke. But when you get done, can you spray it on and get that grass out because I can't get in there.” Before I could finish, he said, “I'm not worried about that right now. Let me fix this problem first and then we'll get to that.”
I walked in the house and I stayed in the house. He came in the house and didn't knock on the door. He started telling me what he’d done, what he was gonna have to do and what he was gonna have to go pick up. We walked outside so he could show me. I asked if he was going to be able to blow the grass out but he said, “I'm not doing that right now.” I told him he was being rude because he was cutting me off and not letting me say what I wanted to say. I asked for his name and he told me it was Shawn. I told him not to come back because it seemed like he was rushing and he was being rude. He was making little gestures and little noises on his breath. He went and got in the truck.
The other guy apologized for what happened and was being real nice. He was respectful. He told me what I needed to do then he walked outside. He said they were gonna bring the part back the next day. I asked him, "He already said the part is in. Why can't you go get it and bring it back? Before you came out here, I told you the part I needed and what my fan was doing." He said he had to call.
I called the boss who claimed that Shawn was his son. But it wasn't his son, it was his son-in-law. I told him that he was rude. He said he was not. I said, “Sir, I don't have a reason to lie to you about your son ‘cause I don't know him. Can you fix my AC today? I have a patient that's in here and it can really be hot.” He said, “You told him not to come back.” I said, “I told that guy don't come back and you sent me somebody else. The other guy could come back.” He said, "Let me see if I can get another technician and if the part is in.” I told him, "The guy already said the part is in. That's why I'm calling if you could bring it back and fix it.” He said, "Let me see." He never called me back and sent somebody else out there. They fixed it and it was doing fine. The guy blew out the AC with no problem.

American Home Shield has fixed a few items we've had. Every once in a while, there's something that they don't cover. But for the most part, they're pretty good. It's just that I'm in El Paso and the version of the customer service of the companies that they use here is a little different than what I'm expecting or what I'm used to. Because it's just so busy, if they can't come, they don't always say they can't come. They just come when they can and that might not be the same day. It has nothing to do with American Home Shield. The city is so big and there are just not enough companies here, that all of them get behind. With my recent claim, Reliable Plumbing fixed the issue, but then the water wouldn’t come on, so that is a separate issue that just happened to be tied to them fixing the other issue.

He found that one of the wired of the circuit breakers had come out. He repaired that and we ended up having electricity. We were very grateful. He said, “Send me any videos you can have of what it's doing.” I made some videos, and he allowed me to send it to them. He took some time to read up on it. He had to order a part on top of it. I've got some friends that have left American Home Shield but they've been frustrated for the wrong reasons. When you're a doctor, you got to be a good patient. You have to be a good consumer as well. The reason I'm a good member of American Home Shield is I understand that when I have something wrong, I can't expect somebody to come fix something if he doesn't know what it does. I wouldn't want a business and expect somebody to just come replace something. East Coast United is a very good example of this. The technician said, “Help me help you. Can you take some pictures the next time this thing goes out?” I stand with American Home Shield because they’ve helped me. I am very pleased with American Home Shield. I like the idea that once you get a contractor that you're comfortable with, and you like their efficient and expedient problem resolution, you can call and request that particular contractor if you're still having another issue in the same category. Last week, I had something going on in my sink area. Our new garbage disposal wasn't coming on. When I looked, there was something leaking from one of our pipe joints underneath. To top it off, when I turned the faucet on, it was spilling water on the deck part at the bottom part of the faucet. I thought that the way the service worked was that I had to call a service person for each one of those components. But when I called, the lady was nice enough to tell me that I could put all of that on one ticket because it was all plumbing. For me on a fixed income, that was a good thing.
Some people hate home warranties and some people love them. We’re the aging baby boomer generation and we have spouses that are now passing away. Now we're by ourselves, I’m suggesting others to go ahead and get a home warranty, and if it's available in the area, certainly choose American Shield. I did have an issue with the contractor with my first call, and American Home Shield was more than fair enough to send a different contractor who didn't even know what the issue was but their diagnosis was spot on. It was an air conditioning problem, and the first technician didn't even check anything. It was making a lot of noise with the outside unit and I asked him, “Should I turn this off?” He said, “Do what you want to do.” I worked in customer service for many years and that's not the attitude that you speak to a consumer who does not know and is trying to ask a question to see what should they do.

We had to call American Home Shield several times to find out when the part was going to be ordered or why it wasn't ordered yet or where it was. We kept calling and escalating the call enough to where it finally got taken care of. The part was ordered and then Care Appliance came out and fixed the dryer. It took about five weeks.
We understand that it was going to take a while to get a part made and shipped but the lack of communication and that where the actual problem was was never defined were frustrating. Whenever we called American Home Shield, they would say they would call back within 24 to 48 hours and that never happened. We could not get answers to our questions through them at all. Also, if we call American Home Shield, they should be able to call their own parts department to tell us when our part is coming.
But for the most part, it's been a good experience. We've used the warranty for a garage door repair, an electrical issue, and for our washing machine. Those were all well-executed.
