Our dryer wasn’t heating up correctly. It made a noise. I notified American Home Shield through the website, and then they sent text message updates. I was happy with the company that came out. The repair helped because now, I can dry my clothes. AHS was great.
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

American Home Shield sent out a contractor to do my heater because it went out. That was the first part of January, and it's still out. Three people came out, and everybody said different things. The first guy said he fixed my heater and it ran for a night. But it was back off again when we woke up. I called them again and it took them a week to send out the second guy. He came out and said he fixed it, but it still ain’t fixed. When the last person came out, he said he found out what was wrong with it, and he had to order a part. That was on the 5th of January. I called them on Monday and they said the part just came in, but they can’t get nobody out to do the heater until next Monday. So, it’s been a rough one with Total Air Care. But the claims process was good because all I did was call American Home Shield and tell them what was going on. I'm satisfied with them.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

I submitted a claim with AHS for the furnace. I was very pleased because they got right on it. And because of the weather, I was afraid it was going to stop and my home will be cold. The tech immediately came and serviced my furnace. I was also very pleased that he had on his mask and he put his equipment on, a cloth on his shoes and he went right to work. He was very friendly and was professional.
Thanks for your feedback. We love to hear when we have provided fast and professional service. And we are always here if you need us.

My washer suddenly started leaking water into the tub even when it wasn't engaged. It was a slow drip and the tech had to replace a part and put a new valve in. And then, the washer sounded as if I had a big load of clothes in it. To me, it sounded like the bearings were going out. Instead, it was some plate at the bottom of the washer. The tech was able to manipulate it around to where it wasn't making the noise anymore. So, I'm well pleased. AHS has done a great job for us. If you own a home and have appliances, you need to have American Home Shield coverage.

The first claim I had was when the air conditioning unit was a big frozen chunk of ice. It leaked the Freon out, and there was some other part that was not working. So I put a call in to have an air conditioning repair guy come out and look at it. He came out and it all worked out good. He explained to me that heat pumps work great, until it gets down below 40 degrees, and then they don't work quite as good.
He checked the Freon and all the other parts, and everything was fine. So the issue was weather-related. So the next time it freezes up, I don't worry about it. However, it was strange that American Home Shield picked the repair company that was based an hour and a half away versus picking a repair company that was 15 minutes away. When I looked at my claim, I saw that they were sending somebody from far away. So I clicked on it to say, "Choose other”. I looked it up and saw someone in the same city I'm at. So I clicked on the person I got because it didn't make sense to me to waste somebody's time to drive three hours just to do 30 minutes worth of work.
For my second claim, I needed to rekey the house and American Home Shield called back the next day and had someone scheduled to come out later that same day. The tech came out, pulled all the locks, rekeyed them all to all new keys, and then put them all back. They've all been working great. The tech was very friendly, and he was done before we even knew it.

My air conditioning and heat pump were not working very well. I submitted a claim to have the unit fixed. The first contractor, Michel Bros, wasn't very good. They said they fixed the problem then went away. But the unit didn't work that night so I put in a bad review for the contractor. The owner called me and gave me a really hard time about putting in a bad review.
A second contractor, Best Heating and VAC Air Conditioning, came out and they were very good. They were on time and very professional. They solved the problem. They ordered a part and once they got it, they brought it in and put it in. They were able to adapt the heat pumps so it worked while we were waiting for the part. The unit has been working fine.

The guy from heating company came out and took a look and made some suggestions on thermostat stuff. He went up in the attic and looked around. I was with him the whole time because I wanted to try to learn from the experience. He found that the wires were not connected. So that was the reason for the cleanser not working. So he connected those and the green lights came on. He did that with both units. So it was really good. He gave me a lot of great information. I'm going to use them again for next time. I also had a claim for the drain and somebody came out and fixed it. I’m glad that American Home Shield's service is available. It can help reduce some of my costs as I move into a new home.

We’ve been using American Home Shield for the past 16 years. The furnace wasn’t working so I submitted a claim recently. The tech came to fix it but didn’t do it right away. He didn’t do a good job. He was sending a message to me that they can’t repair it and that I have to buy a new one. That was when I called American Home Shield to report what was going on and we requested another technician. AHS sent another technician out and everything was good. But there's some part of the furnace that needs to be replaced. They said they’re gonna be coming today.

I've worked with American Home Shield with our stove, the dishwasher and some plumbing issues in the past. The AHS representatives are always awesome and helpful. But some of the people that have been sent out are not always super helpful and we end up having to get different agencies out to fix one problem until we get to someone who actually fixes it. We recently had Comfort First and they did not know what was wrong with our unit and weren't really sure how to fix it.

Some of them were good and some of them were bad ones.

I’m considering canceling my plan and it has a lot to do with the customer service people there and the way the system is run. My house in Georgia has been without hot water since December the 30th. AHS sent someone out there and he followed up to find out what needs to be done so we can get it fixed. I have to get a handyman to fix my stuff and I have to pay out-of-pocket for it. When I called up AHS's customer service, I’m not gonna get reimbursed for that. All the rep was able to do for me was to give me back my $100 service call. I’m not too happy about it. The reason why I’m paying this money and that I'm with AHS is that when stuff gets broken, it can be fixed right away. I thought things like these should be easy. But that's not happening. It’s stressing me out more. It’s easier for me to get a handyman to fix my house and pay him than pay AHS every month.

A Water Solution assessed the problem. They couldn't fix it that day ‘cause they had to order a faucet. They came back out two days later on what I consider a holiday ‘cause it was Christmas Eve and fixed it with no problem. I haven't had a problem since.

American Home Shield was very prompt when I called for service and I had an appointment the next day, which was excellent. I had three different technicians come to work on this issue with my dishwasher and every last one of them was very professional, very friendly, and very informative. That made a world of difference for me. It was an old dishwasher and AHS tried to get a part to replace it, but the part was no longer available. So they sent me an email that they were going to replace it. They sent me the list of the options and they had ordered and it was delivered. So in a matter of a week, I went from a broken dishwasher to a brand new one. It's perfect and I'm extremely happy. I am so pleased with American Home Shield. I haven't been a member that long, but they've really come through for me.

I had a leak underneath my sink and it was so bad. I realized it because I had a roaster pan underneath in case since the garbage disposal had been leaking. It’s a good thing I did because when I heard the water dripping, the roaster pan was almost full. I couldn't use the sink at all. I did a claim online and the website's good. It’s user-friendly. I then got an email that they would call me, and then the contractor, Mr. Plumber, called and said they would be out between a certain time. I did the claim on the weekend. I put it in Saturday and they came out Monday, which I didn't expect them to come out Sunday. Also, I don't think I would be able to get a contractor out that soon.
The repairman is somebody that I know. He came in and when he pulled the metal pipe out, he tried to work with it. He showed it to me and it was rusted all the way through. It was gushing out. He had to go to Home Depot, get a new pipe and install that. Even though he had to go to Home Depot, he had it done in less than an hour and now everything's fine. He was friendly too. The other time, when someone came for my garbage disposal, they were friendly also.
I bought a house and I didn't know what shape anything was in, so I got the coverage. I'm so glad I did. I've not had any trouble with American Home Shield paying for anything and I have no trouble with the $100 deductible that I have. I've recommended them to different people. At work, when I tell them I've got to do it, they’ve asked me and I tell them to get American Home Shield. American Home Shield saves me from having to call a contractor and on the labor costs. Labor is the thing that costs so much and then sometimes, the $100 might be more than the part would be.

Two places both needed repairs and it was the same gentleman who came both times. He wasn't informed of that but he adjusted everything to be able to do what he needed to do, and he got everything taken care of. Then, he came back. He installed one and then replaced the other. So, that was perfect. It just took a little while for the part to come in. I also had the lock changed in another claim to American Home Shield and that was fantastic. We had some unique old locks in the house and the guy walked us through how they were designed and built, and why certain things happen. AHS was reliable. They lived up to their pledge.

The freezer side of our refrigerator was frosting up and the ice in the ice maker was thawing out. Ice was freezing in the ice maker. A tech with Peterson came out and he checked everything to figure out why it was frosting up inside the refrigerator. Everything that he checked was working. But he couldn't figure out the problem because he probably had never seen it before, so he had to refer it out to somebody else for a second opinion.
A second person came and as soon as he opened up the refrigerator, he automatically thought, "It's this. This is a problem." He had seen it and he called one of his workers to verify. I was told it was the defrosting heating coil. It was bad. The part was replaced but when he plugged the refrigerator back up, it wouldn't come on. The guy tested it out and said it was the motherboard. He said he was gonna get one but he never came back.
I had to put another claim because the refrigerator stopped working. Peterson came out to check it out and I told their tech that the guy that came out to fix the freezer side said it was possibly the motherboard. The tech checked it and he agreed that was it. He ordered the motherboard then he came out and replaced it. Whatever was wrong with the motherboard affected the freezer side because the ice maker stuff is still not working. The ice is freezing inside the ice maker to the point where you can't use it.
When making the claim, I looked through the AHS website and submitted it there. That was not too difficult. The first time I did it which was when the tech first came out, the freezer side still wasn't fixed so I had to resubmit the claim. We called it within the warranty time frame and I didn't have to pay the $100 deductible. But the second time I tried to go through because the refrigerator wasn't working, I had to pay the $100 deductible again. On the whole, American Home Shield is a good program. But I hope they could reduce the monthly cost.

My heater wasn’t warming up so I called American Home Shield and got a service request. The heater people were good. But my plumbing claim was messed up. The pump stopped working and the technician said something was caught up in it. But then, he decided to take the pump with him. When he was here, he told me that maybe my wife left the tap on down there, and that's when everything got kind of haywire because I told him off about it and and stuff got kind of discombobulated.
The contractor claimed they brought the pump back but they didn't. I put in a complaint and I heard nothing back from that yet. It’s causing me a whole lot of headaches because I'm selling my house and that pump is missing, and I can't get it replaced. It's gonna cost me more to get it replaced and to get them to come out to see what type of pump it is. That's two trips. They had no business taking the pump from the beginning. They claimed they dropped it off at my house and left it out by the garage which was stupid.
American Home Shield got me a second opinion, and the plumber came out but he didn't have a pump. I've been waiting for American Home Shield to call me back. Everybody that I’ve talked to was in the Philippines. I've been with American Home Shield a bit, and I can't believe that they're doing this to me. They're not following up and calling me back.

After 7 weeks AHS decided to replace my dishwasher... I did pay over $1200 and got back $590.... Horrible company to deal with. They will find any reason to get out of paying the homeowner. They always send sub-par contractors to do the work, then they overcharge. Good luck trying to dispute a non-payment or trying to cancel. You can always get a person to sign up via phone but when you need help you will be on hold for 20 minutes. They promise EVERYTHING but when it is time to pay up they give NOTHING. They will keep billing you even when you cancel

There was a leak from underneath the washer and then I called in. It was around Christmas season and we really had a hard time getting a contractor in. I had to call American Home Shield four or five times. The original one that they had lined up didn't want to work on it because mine came with a pedestal washer. They don't touch one of those. When AHS found that out, they had to quickly find someone. They were finally able to locate a contractor that was willing to work on it. When the guy came, he fixed it pretty fast. He was amazing. I'm glad that it was done. I've also had a refrigerator repaired and that was pretty quick. I did it online. They found a contractor within the day, then they called me within the day, and it was very smooth. I just have to set the appointment. This time, it had to be the volume or someone and it was worse than the first one. Overall, American Home Shield is decent.

At this point, we've used American Home Shield for about five times. Two of the times, two items weren't covered. The circumstances under which we needed something fixed weren't a covered thing. So, we had to pay the fee, which wasn't fun. It was an innocent mistake in a way. I could have looked a little further. We didn't know what the problem was until they came and looked at it. One of them was a power surge, which was caused by lightning. That was not covered. But other than that, we were fine with it. We just had a plumber come and he was very good. He fixed what we needed fixed. He wore his mask the entire time and he kept his distance. He did offer to take off his shoes entering the house. Other than that, we didn't have to do much in close contact with him.
We've had American Home Shield in the past at different houses. Like they advertise, you don't want a big surprise. In the past, they've covered an ice maker that went bad that would have cost us about $500 out of pocket to fix. They've covered the heat pumps and the air handlers for our heat and air in the house. They would have cost a lot of money. They ended up eventually replacing three heat pumps for us and air handlers. That only cost us the trip charge. Overall, even if we don't use them in one year, somewhere along the line it's going to come back. For the $600 and something it cost us, even if we just used it twice a year, it's worth it for some of the things.
In the past, when you do make the call, you used to have to pay the technician that they sent. Then many times when we dealt with it that way, they were very quick to come out in order to collect their trip charge upfront and diagnose the problem. Then they would have to order parts. Once they already had their trip charge money, they weren't quick to come back. They kept going on and that was a big problem. But they've remedied that because now we pay American Home Shield upfront. Then they distribute it to them once they've completed the job. So, I think that was a major improvement. We recommended AHS to neighbors who have taken it and friends that have subscribed to the service.

I had somebody come out right before Christmas for the dishwasher. I went to American Home Shield’s website and it was good. I liked it. I knew that the contractor would reach out to me between 24 to 48 hours. Then, they would come out quickly after that. The contractor, Hubert, was phenomenal, most professional, kindest and efficient. The best contractor I've had through American Home Shield. I was so impressed. He fixed the problem and the dishwasher is functioning better. He also made it much quieter. We didn't even know it was loud. So, he improved things that we didn't even know needed to be improved with the dishwasher.
I have two small kids and one of them has special needs. So, we have a lot of bottle mixtures and equipment that we have to run through the dishwasher. I did not realize how much we use it to sanitize things for my son with special needs. So, that repair made my life so much easier just to get it fixed, and getting it fixed quickly was invaluable. We've used American Home Shield for a rental property we had and for our current property. We’ve probably used them for 15 years total. It has been lifesaving not having to stress about those repairs. It’s nice to know that they are there when I have something that happens, and I'm not facing some huge, exorbitant bills that I'm not prepared for. It’s been great.

Every time I had a breakdown, I got it repaired. I appreciate the company very much. I have one complaint though. My rate went up some. That could be because of the length of the contract. But I have recommended Home Shield to a few people and they already got the service. I told them it's a good company to have that you know you got, especially if you have a home. You never know. I have the same policy in Missouri and in California. But when I had a problem with my household freezer in Missouri, they said it was not covered. But in California, it was covered. The person who they sent to check the freezer never gave them the paperwork on dimension of the freezer. I asked the AHS rep if she could order the report so we know what was wrong. She said, “Well, it’s just not cover. And it's gonna be $2,000. If you want it, we can do it for you. But you have to pay that.” But that was not what I was asking. I wanted a detailed report from the person who did the diagnosis on that. So now, they’re gonna send me another person from a different company to diagnose it again. If I’m paying $100 for a service call, and I’m getting a technician, that technician should write the report and send it to them.
I had a problem with my furnace. When you open the door on the furnace unit, it just keep running. It’s supposed to be when you take the door out, the unit is supposed to quit. But AHS said it was not covered. They said it was not wear and tear. But that is wear and tear. That’s a safety switch. So for the compressor, they cover for $10,000. But safety switch for $20, they don't cover? I'm gonna cancel it. I could have put the switch myself. I can order through Amazon. It's no big deal. But a company like this to nickel and dime you to death when you pay $600, and continually every year, I’m not gonna recommend them to nobody.
Good Morning, are you still in need of assistance?

Good service, but they are quite expensive unless their prices have changed. Their contractors are a good quality and very professional. They however, did not cover a water line break after we'd just moved-in and it cost us $2,000 after we were told it was covered. That kind of financial hit and lie weren't good for my recommendation at all.
Thanks for sharing your experience. We appreciate it.

I did a claim regarding a stoppage in the main line and used AHS' automated phone option. That was easy to do. The phone system automatically picks up a vendor. We live in a big city, which is the DC Metro. If AHS' vendor is on the other side of the city, they are really reluctant to come and do the service. For my stoppage claim, the job got assigned to a company that is pretty far from where we live. When I talked to them, they didn't want to give me a schedule because I was no longer a priority for them. It was gonna take them two hours to come and two hours to go back to their office. The following morning, I had to talk to a service representative.
If the AHS automated system picks up a vendor based on the ZIP code, it would be better. If there is a vendor located within my ZIP code, it would be a 20-minute drive instead of two hours from another vendor. I'm sure AHS has thousands of vendors in their database so that change can do some good. That issue aside, the tech that came out for my claim did a pretty good repair.

We pushed a button on our electric dryer and all we could hear was rumbling noises. It went kaput. My husband went online and submitted a request to American Home Shield because waiting on hold on the phone is too much. American Home Shield usually sends the email back saying the service request been assigned to a particular service company along with the phone number. We then have to wait until the service company calls us to schedule a time for the visit. The timeframe has been pretty good lately. It's within 24 hours.
It was disappointing that it took about two weeks for a technician to come out to look at the dryer. That old COVID word pops up all the time where we are told that the service company is short on people. It was disappointing but I understand the circumstances. For those two weeks, we were having to go back and forth to the laundromat. The washing machine was good so we would wash our clothes, put them in baskets after doing a few loads then cart them off to the laundromat and pay to get them dried.
After the technician came, my husband had to call it in to AHS to see what they went through. He had the diagnosis of what was been going on. Apparently after talking to AHS, whoever they called into said they wanted the dryer repaired and not replaced. We thought for sure that because of the age of the dryer and because they were replacing the motor, which is usually the whole brains of the outfit, AHS would replace the unit. According to the technician, that dryer was from the '90s.
And then this gentleman told my husband he was ordering five parts and they would be mailed to our house. When we receive those parts, we were to call Sears and let them know that the parts were all received. In the meantime, the gentleman was going to set up the tentative date for somebody to come back to fix the dryer. That was another two weeks out the door. From beginning to end, it was a month that we had no dryer. We also received an email from Sears saying that one of the parts was on backorder indefinitely. I called them and they said they didn't know when it was gonna come in. I can't live like that so I called AHS then AHS wound up calling Sears and got a different response from them. It was very nerve-racking for a while. The technician came back on the 19th and everything went smoothly. He fixed the dryer.
A month was a long time to be without our dryer. Had AHS replaced our dryer, we would have gotten a new one in half the time. Granted it takes two weeks for the person to come out, but by the time they would have put the order through and granted the new appliance, we would have had the new dryer within the next couple of days. That would have been quicker than another two weeks of waiting for the parts to come in then having to schedule a return time. AHS had done this before. They gave us choices and we opted to have our dishwasher replaced. There was also one time we had to have our kitchen faucet replaced because it wasn’t repairable. AHS did it and there were no problems. That was why this the case of our dryer was a little bit of a shock to us. The difference between what the parts cost and a new dryer was about $150.
If your dishwasher goes out, you can still wash your dishes by hand. But with our dryer, we were inconvenienced. There was the financial implication too. We had to drive numerous times during the week and pay for a dryer for multiple loads. Also, even though the technician fixed the problem, how long is this gonna last? But if AHS got a brand new dryer to replace our old one, they probably wouldn't have another call from us in who knows how long.
The experience was not that great and we were unhappy. This particular time was a very difficult time. In the end, everything got done and I was satisfied but we would have liked to have had it done quicker through a replacement. Other than that experience, AHS has been great. We've been with them for four years and we always had good service and good technicians that came out. We had a washing machine fixed the year before.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Robert and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

At first, when the first repairer came, which was Expert Pools, he analyzed the damage and reported it as pest damage. But he appeared to not be aware that American Home Shield wouldn't cover pest damage, which I thought was a bit bizarre. I then requested a second opinion because when I opened up the pool heater, there were signs of nesting in the heater, but there was no other signs of pest damage. Typically, cables get chewed by rat and I couldn't see any of that. So, there was nothing to prove that the heater stopped working, and then the nesting may have occurred after that.
I challenged the fact that it was pest damage. When I spoke to Expert Pools, the gentleman said he didn't do a thorough inspection because as soon as he saw the nesting, he said, “Oh, that must be it. That's the reason why. This should be fine. We should be able to get it replaced for you.” Then I was shocked to hear when American Home Shield said, “Hey, we don't cover pest damage.” I said, “Well, that's completely incongruous of what your number one repairer in the DFW area quoted me." I was kind of skeptical at that point. So, I got a second opinion, and then the second opinion came out, and he reinforced what the first guy said, and I was like, “Okay. Cool. Then that makes a little more sense.” He kind of explained it a bit more that the nesting produces moisture, and then the moisture corrodes the pipes, and that was why this stopped working.
The first inspection was not as detailed as I would have hoped for, and because we had some false expectations set, I was pretty disappointed with the first outcome. As much as I don't wanna pay three grand for a new heater, I have to accept that that's American Home Shield’s policy, and apparently, it was pest damage.
The claim submission was easy. There was a breakdown in communication. When I spoke to them to request the second opinion, the person on the phone stumbled around a little bit and said they had to speak to a supervisor and that they would call me back, and they never did. AHS should be informing their repairers of what is covered and what is not. I’m sure they have so many technicians and it’s probably a revolving door for American Home Shield. But to better inform their technicians so they’re not setting false expectations with clients would probably a big one. It would have been great if they’d called me back when they did. But other than that, it's kind of on me for not reading the fine print in the contract.

American Home Shield is easy to contact and they work on an issue until it's resolved. It's been a good experience with them. They've sent three different companies for our refrigerator. It's usually pretty easy submitting a claim with AHS. But because it was the day before a holiday, it was hard for them to find anyone. But they stayed on it, which was good. The very first company they ever sent us was terrible and we requested they never come again. He didn't fix it and he stayed on his phone the whole time. He wasn't even paying attention. He kept taking other phone calls and I felt like his mind was not on what he was doing. It was not a very good experience. But the last company that came out was very communicative. They would send a link and send a text and say, "Tech has been scheduled. Tech is 30 minutes away. Tech has arrived."

American Home Shield has been very efficient. Recently, I put in a claim for a leaky toilet but I didn't wait for the contractor to call me. I called them the next morning and the tech was able to come the same day and had it fixed. He was great and really polite. He went and looked at the problem, then he replaced one of the seals underneath the toilet, and put it back. Then he left and the claim was closed out.
Later that night, we went back into the bathroom and there was water on the floor. We had to go back in and say that it wasn't fixed. So, he came out the very next day and found out it was something else. But it was fixed and now, the toilet is not leaking anymore. I also had a claim for my refrigerator and I've had somebody come out twice because of it. But everything was good and they fixed both of the issues the first time they came out. The techs came out the first time to fix the icemaker and the second time, they came out for the refrigerator itself as it stopped cooling.

Both my washer and refrigerator broke before Christmas. The washer was too old and we couldn’t find the parts. We got the check. We bought the washer, the contractor delivered it on time, and my husband and I installed it because when the contractor came to install it, we couldn't turn off the water. We have not turned it off for years. So, it was stuck. My husband had to fix that. And then we installed it. But they came today to pick up the old one. The refrigerator was fixed the day before Christmas Eve. The guys came early in the morning and put the compressor, and it was all good. It took a bit long but it’s nicely fixed.
It takes a little longer to provide the parts, like the refrigerator. The washer was okay because I have a laundromat here in the park. But the refrigerator got fixed, so it’s all good. I recommended American Home Shield to people. Hopefully they will take advantage. Because what am I gonna do? How would I buy the washer? I spend more than 600. But it was less. The washer was 900, but I got 640 from AHS. So, it’s good.

Unfortunately, I don't know why this one website has a problem with Google Chrome, but I faced it a couple of times. I had one service for the garage door where the spring is gone. When I raised the service, I paid $75. After that, when the contractor came, I had to shell around 200 out of my pocket. He took 150 dollars just for the garage door balancing. When I put my claim in, the furnace would come on sometimes, but most of the time, it won't. On Christmas Day, it was off for 16 hours during the day. Occasionally, it would come on, then it would cut itself off, and it would be off for several hours. The first guy came in, took a look at my furnace, and said that there was moisture that had gotten into the system and caused something to go bad. He said that it was shorting when it would run for long periods of time, which is why when it got really cold, it would shut itself off ‘cause it had been running. He told me that he would submit it to his company and then they would call me and let me know what American Home Shield said of whether they were gonna repair it or replace it.
Later, the company called me back and they said that because the furnace had been put in incorrectly previously (it wasn't vented properly), American Home Shield would pay for some of the repairs, but not all. I would have to pay $700 for the repair, or they could do a new furnace for $2,000. I went ahead and did the new furnace. They came out on Monday and they installed the new furnace on Wednesday. They were professional and the new furnace is working great.

We looked under the crawlspace and there was a big leak. It seemed to be coming from under the water heater because it was directly under there. I called it in and Home Shield put water heater. The plumber came out the next day and he said he couldn't touch it as it was the pipe and not the water heater. I had to resend it to let them know about that. That took forever to get approved or to route. You have to be pretty accurate when calling Home Shield to file a claim, and that's the only complaint I have.
We've had one contractor, Allen, and he came for the attic fan. It turns out that I need a new one. Unfortunately, to install the new one, and I gotta do shingles, and he's not allowed to do that. Home Shield said that they would reimburse me up to 150 bucks for a new attic fan, but I would pay out of pocket to get it installed. They also won't cover shingles. I understood that completely. So, I'm in the process of looking for someone that's an electrician that could do shingles and install the attic fan. I haven't had luck with that. Overall, Home Shield has been a godsend. I'd rather pay 100 bucks out of my pocket and have someone else finish the job than do everything. Hopefully, I can keep it for life 'cause I'm not trying to get any kind of expertise on anything. I've been recommending them to people now.

The claim with the heating issue is not over yet. It’s possible that I got new people because the techs had to make a lot of phone calls to get advice on what they need to do. It always seems to take multiple trips or I have to call them back because they didn't fix the problem. They came out to diagnose the original issue that showed other issues and they still haven't been back since they bought the parts. When I went to call them Monday and ask why it was taking so long, they didn't even have me on the calendar. So, if I had not called Monday to ask where they were at, they weren't coming back. I spent three weeks without heat in the only time of the year in Florida that it's cold.
The contractor said they’re coming out tomorrow but I don't have a window of time yet and it's already 4 o'clock today. I should have at least known what time they're coming tomorrow. They said they're sending out a supervisor or a different guy but they sounded like this was my fault. I was supposed to be the one to call. So, I haven't had good experience with them before either, so I asked for another company but AHS brought them in again. It’s probably the number one on the top of the list but I don't want to be using Bencraft for my future calls. Still, I'm happy with American Home Shield.

My wife noticed that my daughter's room was a lot colder. Her room is always either the coldest in the house or the hottest in the house, depending on the year, just because of where it's at, where it sets with the sun. The weather dropped a bit more than normal that day, so I turned the heat up a little more. And I noticed that it kicked on, but it wasn’t blowing. You could hear the motor trying to get started. I was like, “Okay, something's going on.” I gave it until the next day. I called Home Shield, and then the company called to set up the appointment. And maybe because of the holidays and the weekend, they were like, “Is it okay if we do it Monday?” I was like, “Yes, it’s totally fine.” Because the heat rises, it’s not really that cold upstairs anyway. They were here first thing Monday morning and got it fixed. It was straightforward and seamless. It has worked fine ever since.
I have only used AHS twice and it has been painless. When I signed up for the plan, the lady that I talked to was in depth on what to expect. For instance, if my heater was going out, I'm certain there would have been some other charges that would have come about, and I would fully expect that. But I can't imagine them paying the full cost of whatever the thing because I know there's a lot more in depth details with stuff like that. Also, I wish that the website had a bit more options. But that is probably done purposely, just so people don't get overwhelmed.

I love American Home Shield and it saved me a lot of money.

It was Christmas Day and we called American Home Shield about our problem. It was cold in the house and we initially thought it was the thermostat so my husband changed it out but it didn't fix the problem. When the tech from Clear Sky came out, it turned out to be something about water in the lines. My husband was very satisfied with the work that he did. He picked his brain, and he learned a lot, like our furnace isn't big enough. Everything has been working fine since the repair. We’re very happy with American Home Shield. We're glad that we got it. It definitely gives us peace of mind.
Hi Sherry,
I am pleased to hear about the excellent service you have received. I hope you continue to enjoy!

American Home Shield is not a very responsive company. But specifically, for this claim, it was terrible. They sent us somebody out quickly and the provider came out quickly too. But the provider was dismissive. The electrician said that as long as the fan is spinning, even though it's not pulling the exhaust and creating damp and wetness in the bathroom, his only concern was whether it was spinning or not. So he recommended replacing the fan but AHS denied it. The provider didn't give us an opportunity to ask us if we wanted him to replace it anyway, and we would just pay for it. And Home Shield never communicated their denial to us. They simply sent me an email that said that the ticket had been closed.
There was another situation in which we had a garbage disposal and a part of our sink failed. It was a bit clogged and then, it leaked and created a flood in our kitchen. Home Shield was unable to find a provider to come and do the job so they authorized us to find a provider and then to pay for it. Then, they would reimburse us. It took months for me to get reimbursed. It was bad enough that I had contacted my attorney to begin legal action against the company because I would call customer service and they would tell me that they haven't received the reimbursement documentation.
I've sent the reimbursement documentation four different times to them and it goes to a general mailbox. So, when they told me the fourth time that they haven't received it, I asked them to give me a name of a specific person who I can send this material to so that everybody knows it's been received. It only took me reaching out to the company through Twitter that I got a resolution. That can't be the way to do it. None of the customer service people were helpful. I got several different responses when I finally got through such that the check is in the mail, it's coming and it would be here by Thanksgiving. I would call other people and they would say they never received it. The information was never consistent. So, it was an overall bad experience.

When I put in a claim, American Home Shield was very quick to assign a contractor. The contractor called me within 24 hours and once I spoke with them, they came out to the house. We had a very old furnace and the tech took some good time to look at it. The heat exchanger was bad and cracked. The tech said that we needed a new furnace. It took was almost a week because they had to order the new furnace with the right size and everything. When the technicians came back, the installation was incredible. The work only took five hours. They were excellent. The new furnace works great and it has been working perfectly.
The overall claim process was good and I was very impressed with it. It's easy to make the claim online. As soon as you file a claim, you get a contractor assigned that you can contact or they contact you. The only thing I don't like about American Home Shield is they don't give you the opportunity online to mark how the process is going. With another home warranty provider I have for my second home, the customers can go online and say, "Scheduled the appointment or talked to the contractor." They give you the ability to mark steps in the status or track what's happening. If technicians come and do the job, I can mark it as "completed" which makes everything go a little bit faster and people know what's going on. I would like that kind of system with American Home Shield.
We appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

I will just let you know my experience and the timeline and you can decide yourself. On December 28th, our oven had a small electrical fire that resulted in me placing a claim that night. It was assigned to a contractor and they came to our house on December 30th. The contractor came to our home, took pictures, and left. They said we should hear back in a couple of days as to whether the appliance would be replaced or repaired. On January 4th, I placed my first of 7-8 phone calls over the next 3 weeks to AHS customer service and was told that they were waiting to hear from the contractor. For the next 2 weeks, AHS told me that the contractor was going to order the parts and the contractor told me AHS was ordering the parts.
As a result of my frustration, I posted a negative review. I heard back from a representative that offered to help assist me on January 11th offering to help me get the issue resolved. Eventually, the parts were finally ordered on January 14th and I was told it would be an additional 8-10 days before the parts would arrive. That would have been almost an entire month since I originally filed the claim. The person that I was working with to resolve the situation was able to approve the appliance for repair which allowed me to purchase a replacement on January 19th.
Original Review: Jan. 8, 2021
Just be prepared for your appliance to not be repaired for multiple weeks maybe months. I was told different things by the contractor and the customer service reps repeatedly. AHS said the contractor needed to order parts, the contractor said AHS needed to order parts, meanwhile the appliance was not repaired. The reason the appliance needed to be repaired was because it caught on fire. You would think when an appliance catches on fire that it would just need to be replaced.

This review is for American Home Shield specifically, and does not concern the quality of a third party contractor. tl;dr. Our issue has still not been resolved, we are miserable, and I wish I never gave my business to American Home Shield. Save your money and run away as quickly as possible. This review has been shared with the Better Business Bureau, with some edits for clarity and another request for service I'd forgotten about.
I've been an AHS customer for over three years as of July of 2017, and up there with Comcast, this has been the worst customer experience I've ever had. On three other occasions I've called AHS for service, the first time we lost hundreds of dollars in food that spoiled when it took over a week for a contractor to come out and replace a simple part on my refrigerator (this is on AHS as they have specific contractors they use and keep a tight grip on approving only certain work). If AHS can get away with replacing specific parts, when a complete replacement is actually warranted, they will. I only renewed my warranty at that point because a sales associate said they were coming under new management and were going to do things better (that was a lie).
Another time I canceled my service call when it would cost too much and take too long to fix my garbage disposal (which I ended up fixing myself, though I shouldn't have had to with this AHS 'warranty'). The previous time I called for service was when hot water was being vented out the side of my house because the blow off valve was malfunctioning. The contractor told me that though we actually needed a whole new water heater, due to age and deterioration, AHS would not approve a replacement unless there was a massive malfunction or the bottom seal blew out and would flood our garage. This was ominous, but the reason we decided to keep AHS was to insure a future replacement when needed.
In this most recent episode, my hot water heater broke and flooded my garage on 12/29/2020, and I called AHS for service (it's winter where I'm at, and it's cold). At this point there is no hot water to my house, and for whatever reason there isn't enough water pressure to run even cold showers. The earliest a contractor could be sent by AHS would be 9 days later on 1/7/2020, and to request another contractor option, I was told, would create even longer waits. If I found another independent contractor option for service outside of AHS, services rendered would not be covered at all.
We waited until the 7th, when the AHS contractor came out and confirms that the bottom hot water seal has broken, and the entire unit would need to be replaced. The contractor then spends the next two hours on the phone with AHS to get approval for the replacement, and near the end of these two hours, most of the quote gets denied (I've taken time off work at this point to be available for the contractor). The contractor leaves me with a quote for services, but says my out of pocket expenses would be $1,134.00 + tax. Since the contractor for AHS is so back logged with work orders, it would likely be another week and a half to have the actual water heater replaced.
I call AHS that day on the 7th after 10:30 a.m. and spoke with Mar, who tells me the 'decline department' has declined it, but she doesn't know why at this time. At this point I've talked to three other independent contractors in my area who have priced, over the phone, the complete replacement, removal, disposal, parts, service and labor (including permitting and code compliance) between $1,550 and $1,890 for my gas water heater, including tax. I asked AHS for a cash out option (pay me what they would actually pay for whatever they're willing to cover in their dubious contract). A 50 gallon gas hot water heater costs around $600 according to the internets, and they quoted me $1134 out of pocket... Mar promises to call me back by the end of her shift at 9 p.m. (e.s.t. I'm guessing) with an update but I never hear back from anyone with AHS.
On the 8th I spoke with Keyla or Kayla who tells me a list of things they won't cover, which if you look at the prices for gas water heaters and the prices I've quoted from the independent contractor, indicates AHS would really only be replacing the water heater itself, and nothing else. According to Keyla/Kayla, my cash out request was never processed, and that she'd try to submit it. She calls me back later and says she doesn't have enough information, that, "The quote is missing from the dispatch (department) and from the authorization department." I don't know what this means. But it indicates that we will continue to go without hot water well into this weekend. (Keep in mind, all of this time I'm on the phone I'm not working, and needing to take time off.)
My wife also called and spoke with Jenna shortly after I got off the phone with Keyla/Kayla, and was told our service request was 'escalated'. "Are you sending someone out now to replace our water heater?" "Who knows; we don't..." I've asked several times to speak with a manager, and have been told "They're in a meeting," or that, "They're not available." I've been told to calm down as well, or they'd end my call, with no recourse for solving my problem. I'm not sorry that I'm extremely frustrated and upset with this terrible service from an outsourced company that does not actually care about their customers.
My issues have still not been resolved, we are miserable, and I wish I never gave my business to American Home Shield. I can risk just paying out of pocket to get my water heater replaced, in which case AHS will not cover any of those expenses (because why not? I don't deserve hot water during winter, and my monthly payment of $45 for the last 3 years is pocket change to them). I'll have to submit receipts to receive reimbursement if we go that route, which I'm guessing would take 2 + weeks to process.
The apathy and penny pinching from American Home Shield has, in all, been extremely infuriating to say the least. Their BBB accreditation should be reviewed, as we used that as one of the reasons for why we purchased their 'warranty'. Thank you for reading our story. I hope it helps you decide on whether to pursue doing business with American Home Shield. This entire thread could have been avoided if AHS actually cared about their customers and provided the services expected of them in a timely manner. How long would you be willing to go without hot water during the winter?

Our washer broke about a month ago and we called Home Shield and they sent out a repairman who after 2 visits stated that the washer could not be fixed and needed to be replaced. Home Shield sent out another repairman for a second opinion and after dismantling the washer he stated that the leaks could not be located and concurred that it needed to be replaced. Home Shield offered $887 to replace and I refused the offer pending my research for a price. The model that we have is an LG front load washer model wm8000hva which is discontinued. I was able to find one exact model at Home Depot for a price of $1680. I called Home Shield with this price and they refused to pay this price instead offering a GE model at that price off $887 with a white color and our model is graphite. The ge model is nowhere near what we have and my wife would kill me if I agreed to something that did not match.
Hi Jerry,

We had a backed up drain and the plumber came quicker than we thought he was gonna come. He had to come out a second time and he came that same day that we made the call. However, I don't like the process with AHS. I've been with them for 10 years almost but they have changed things over the years which I don't like. When they do a cash-out, they're making it very hard for the customer. There are a lot of other people that feel the same way about this cash-out thing. It used to be so much easier. I've done it when my washer broke. The contractor came, diagnosed it, told me it was gonna cost $800 to fix it and that I could either fix it or I could do a cash-out which I did. The check came, I went and bought me a washer, and everything was good.
Few years later, my microwave stopped working. The guy came out, analyzed it, said that they couldn't get the part for it anymore 'cause it was the motherboard and they no longer made that microwave. I would have to do a cash-out. Here is where the problem came in. AHS requires the customer to go out, purchase the item, send in the receipt, then get reimbursed. Do they know how many people nowadays can't afford to do that? Right now, I need to call in a claim for my dishwasher and that's what's gonna happen probably with it. To replace the one I have is probably going to be anywhere from $800 to $1,000.

I called American Home Shield when there was stoppage where water was coming up out of the drain. I was told that the contractor would be here between a certain time and they were here. They handled it and took care of it. Since the repair, I'm able to have the water drain out and not sit in or come up to the floor drain. Also, they fixed the shower knob to where if you pull it up, the shower would come on. It was a good experience.

Four days prior to Service One Air coming out, my central air unit was making a lot of noise. I contacted American Home Shield and they set up Service One. They contacted me and said they could come out the next day. They scheduled an appointment. The technician came out, recognized the problem and fixed it quickly. She was very polite and courteous to me. And she was very knowledgeable with the AC unit, so she provided great service. She had all the PPE gear on. Everything went well.
I wish when we had a great company that came out, that you can either get that company again if you need that service, if they're still within American Home Shield as one of their contractors or providers, instead of getting different companies from different times. I had a bad experience with AC with other companies. But this company was good. I would want them to be the same one that comes out if I had another issue.

They sent out one plumber and he could only do part of the job. They had to send somebody else but they closed it. I called back to see why they closed and they explained to me that they didn't do that. They just had to take him off of it so they could put another team on it. They took care of it all. We've had some complicated dealings with American Home Shield. When my refrigerator was initially repaired, the lead technician was very good, communicated clearly, and easily solved the problem that occurred. But when the refrigerator was put back together, somebody had forgotten to put a draining hose back where it was supposed to go so it was leaking. Sears came out and their repairman fixed it very simply and efficiently. He took the drain hose that was disconnected from the drain reservoir and connected it to the drain reservoir. Everything has been functioning fine. Not having a refrigerator freezer work is very disruptive. Once it was repaired, things have been much better. It helps a lot to have a working refrigerator freezer in this particular society.
We also have a couple of rental properties that are covered by American Home Shield. So far, the repair people that have been engaged have been professional and easy to work with. But as far as booking with the phone service, it's been a little bit hit and miss. That has been mostly in regards to the repair issue that we are in the midst of having a resolution to.
This is the first time with American Home Shield that we were presented with a necessity to get a replacement rather than a repair. The repairs have all been very straightforward and easy. But the replacement system that American Home Shield has in place has some serious bottlenecks, including a whole separate division to handle replacement claims. The division has a phone queue that lasts for sometimes over two hours and they have no option to do the queue silently.
A phone call is the only way to get ahold of American Home Shield. There is no effective email, text, or other methods for contacting them. If you get somebody on the phone, most of the time they are very helpful and want to make things right. But once they're off the phone with you, it's back to square one. If there's a new issue with the repair in question, you have to start over again and that's a bit frustrating. In terms of follow-through like returning promised phone calls, we have not had a lot of success. We have had very sympathetic people. The people have spent a lot of time with us on the phone trying to make things work. But we are always talking to a new person so the continuity of communication with the services is lacking.
We had particular frustration trying to get somebody accountable in American Home Shield and the corporation has hidden any sort of direct phone lines to the corporate office. You can't really get to management or somebody that can make changes happen and there is no email communication. In order to have any sort of repair through them, you have to be willing to give up a lot of your time. If there is an effective email, you could just send an email, expect a response then respond to that and you wouldn't be taking hours out of your workday.
Thanks for sharing your experience. We appreciate it.

My refrigerator went out and it stopped freezing. D&J Appliances came out the next day. They addressed it properly and explained to us what was going on in detail. They were really professional in giving us information about it. It's just that I am having an issue with what American Home Shield's policy is in fixing the product because my refrigerator is still not fixed. D&J said that I have a Samsung and the issue that I always had, was going to have to be addressed. They would have to ship the product whole so they were going to let the Home Shield know that.
Home Shield sent someone to do a second opinion and the guy said the same thing. This whole time, my freezer and refrigerator have been down over a week, and my food spoiled. I called Home Shield to find out what's going on. The next thing I knew, they sent the guy back out here, telling him he needed to find out where the problem was. He did a patch-up job and said it was only gonna last two weeks for them try to find out where the leakage is. It's so scary because I'm having to track to make sure every day that my freezer is working. The guy said to call him if it goes out. I'm like, wow, I got to go through this, and I'm paying insurance on this every month. I'm a fairly new customer and my experience been kind of iffy. If something goes wrong with it, and they can't fix it, it's gonna take them a long time before they try to replace it. So, I'm not satisfied with this issue with Home Shield.

Paul’s Appliance came out last time to do the dishwasher. My daughter said that the technician was a really nice guy. A part had to be ordered and it took two weeks to get it and for them to come back. American Home Shield does a good job. What I don't understand is why they don't have parts readily available and it always takes a while to get it. It's always a two-thing process where they're gonna come out twice. Whereas, if you didn't have a warranty and you called for a plumber or whatever the case is, they can come out, and they can have the part, and they do the service. Other than that, AHS is still worth the money.
Generally, I'll call American Home Shield depending on if it's during the day and if I catch the problem early enough in the morning. Otherwise, you'll never get to them. I’m not that thrilled with that process. It’s tedious and I cringe when I have to do it because I don't usually get somebody. I have to wait for a long time. They keep telling me to go online. But I’m older so I prefer to talk to people instead of going online and submitting something, sending it out there and hoping that somebody gets the information, and then will take it from there. Also, if they don't answer the phone and we have to wait a long time, I’m not so confident that it's going to be quicker or faster sending it out online.

When I called American Home Shield, the gentleman from Magic Appliance that they referred me to was great. He kept me up-to-date and double-checked what was going on. He said, "I'm going to be away tomorrow but I'll keep an eye on this. I'll let you know first thing Friday.” Every time he said that, he did. You don't usually see that kind of customer service. There was a different company that came out to fix the problem and it took them a really long time to keep in touch. They didn't even tell me what they did. When they “fixed it,” it was still not working so American Home Shield sent Magic Appliance. I've used Magic Appliance before and they're fantastic. Within two days, they had it done. They followed also up which was great.
The gentleman from American Home Shield that had my claim was wonderful. His name is Raul. I'm grateful that they assigned somebody to me to move the problem forward. I used American Home Shield before and the same issue happened. There was somebody else that came out but couldn't fix the issue and told me it was my fault. American Home Shield said, “Let's get a second opinion.” They sent Magic Appliance and the little guy was phenomenal. He took care of it. I requested Magic Appliance on the second call. The cool thing was they said, “If you really needed your washing machine fixed, we can't get to you for two weeks so you may want to ask someone else.” It's nice when people tell you that. You have at least an idea in your head to wait or have somebody else sent. The person American Home Shield sent didn't fix the issue so Magic Appliance ended up coming out and fixing it. I would highly recommend American Home Shield and Magic Appliance.

If I put it to auto, it just blows out cold air. American Home Shield told me who were the people assigned and that they should be getting in touch with me within two days. That was on around the holiday time. Comfort Pros called me Monday morning and they gave me a time frame from 8:00 to 1:00 or 8:00 to 2:00 that same day. The tech came out that Monday morning and I had no problem with him. But I’m having the same problem wwith the furnace now. So I had to call him again. They had to come out twice as it still came up through my bathtub. But this time, it’s been a couple days and it’s been pretty good. I would recommend American Home Shield to anybody that needed help, where one could just get help and right away they assist. One can call it on somebody, and all the burden is not on himself. Back in October, American Home Shield assigned someone quickly for a plumbing claim. That company came out and then I didn't hear anything back for almost a month. I called a couple of times, and when I first called which was about three weeks after the plumber came out, it was obvious that they had just dropped the ball completely. They were passing the buck on to the plumber saying that the plumber never got back to them. They even said that the last time that AHS had checked in with the plumber had been within the week that they had come, then another two weeks passed, and they just forgot about it. So, when I called, that prompted them to send out another plumber.
Then, the next plumber, I was declined coverage almost immediately. It was like a part-time job trying to get ahold of a supervisor. I called so many times and according to one of the plumbers, the reason why I couldn't get a supervisor is because their call center is located out of the country, or it uses people who are out of the country and the supervisors are at a separate location. So, every time I called and would demand to speak to one, they would say they're not here, which is true. Also, there's no direct phone number that I could find to get in touch with a supervisor. On one occasion that a supervisor called me back, out of about five times me calling and asking to speak to one, I missed the call. He left a message with the phone number to the call center. His name was Corey. I wanted him or any supervisor to call me back.
When I reported it to Better Business Bureau, AHS responded quickly and even said that they left a message for me on December 1st, which was inadequate considering I called many times after that. I also emailed every single email address I could find on their website, none of which are customer relations. I also sent the same email to the Better Business Bureau and prefaced it with "I'm hoping you can get this to the right person because I have had no luck in getting a supervisor." That went nowhere. All they said was they were willing to reimburse the money for that service call. So, it's $125 I paid to have the plumber come out to look at the pipes under the house, which I appreciate. Also, they sent a survey after getting service asking how it was and I spoke my mind on the surveys two different times.
In the meantime, this month of me not hearing from them, this plumbing problem's getting worse. My water bill almost doubled because there are leaks. There are times when I can actually now smell the sewage. Before I thought of calling AHS for the problem, I completely forgot I have the insurance. I paid out of pocket for a plumber to fix a different problem in my house. When they jetted the line, they used a camera and that was how this problem was initially found. Then, I remembered I had insurance. I would have them come out and get a second bid on this since I'm paying for that. At the time that the camera came, the guy said the lines were cracked. Now, the fourth plumber that was here looked at the lines and said they were completely open on top now.
But I have had other good experiences. I used them to fix my oven at one point and it saved me some money. With my recent claim, Cloggmasters came out quickly for a plumbing issue. Both claims were great. I've been back and forth about whether to cancel because there have been times when it's been helpful too. I'm still on the fence about whether I'm going to continue with them. I'm probably going to cancel because I am extremely dissatisfied, and the customer service aspect is just ridiculous to me. I seriously spent hours of my time just on hold and speaking to their customer service people. It was not their fault, and I felt horrible because I was angry, but they have no power to do anything.

I like having American Home Shield for the fast help of something that I would not know how to handle. I was worried of who I was gonna call. They would charge me an arm and a leg. It was over the holiday weekend. Then I remembered that I have a home warranty. With my recent claim, my furnace wasn't working so I got in touch with them. The girl from Budget HVAC called me back that night and was very efficient and timely. The guy who came out the next morning fixed it in a very short amount of time. He was great, super professional, very quick, and super responsive. I was thrilled. It took all the stress out. AHS got me to a reputable person.
Thanks for your feedback. We love to hear when we have provided fast and professional service. And we are always here if you need us.

When I first called about me needing some repair work, the technician told me that he had gotten the okay to order the part from American Home Shield. But when I called American Home Shield, they said they hadn't gotten a diagnosis from the repairman. So we had to go back and forth. I had to get upset to let them know that it was freezing here in Tennessee and I needed some heat in my house, that whatever the breakdown was at, they needed to fix it. I finally got my unit fixed after all of that.

This company is happy to take your money and give you nothing in return. Our home was covered by the seller when we purchased the home. Because we went with the same company that the seller had (AHS), they told us that the coverage would continue on anything the seller had installed. She installed two new furnaces with AHS prior to putting the home on the market. The furnaces were improperly installed, and missing an important part.
AHS refused to honor the policy when we complained that the brand new furnaces their people had just installed did not work. They charged our credit card the service call fee, insisted we use their people only - all with 1-star reviews, and we received nothing in return. We finally paid $1,700 to a reputable HVAC company to fix the problems. They said they see this all the time with AHS. When we sold our old house, we offered a home warranty, but our buyers didn't want it. They said they aren't worth the paper they're written on. They were right. AHS will never get another dime from me.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

I submit the claims and American Home Shield came back quick with a response. And the problems have always been resolved. I recetnly had a floor drain that was not taking water. The tech got ahold of me right away after I put the claim in. And he was there the next day and resolved it in a very short amount of time. We've had him there different times for different products, and they're very good. I've also had Woodley's and both of them have been professional and just got right to the job and fixed it. They knew exactly what they were doing. It's really painless stuff. Timing-wise, they tell you when they're going to be there, and they show up. It has been a good process.
I've told a lot of friends that we're using the warranty and we have been very happy with it. It gives a peace of mind. It's a lot easier to come up with a small deposit than it is having a nightmare of something going out, having to replace it. They have been very good. They have done exactly what they said they were going to do. Promises made and promises kept.

My appliance would quit working and there was an electrical smell. The tech came out on three different occasions. First time, he was able to get the motor to work without any further work. The second time, when he went to check the wiring, he said the wiring was loose. He tightened the wiring and it started to work again. A couple weeks later, it stopped again. At that time, he said there were problems with the motors and he replaced the motor. I've run it one time since then and it worked fine.
American Home Shield's online claims process is very easy. Every time I have a claim, the contractors come out within a week and they've all been great. But you're only allowed to list one problem in the claims form on the website. There's no way to list possible multiple problems. For most cases, that's not a problem. But if it was an electrical system and there were multiple issues, you can only list one issue. But their response time was quick and everything was done the way it was supposed to be done.

I had Choice Home Warranty, and they lied about everything. I called and talked to the salespersons at AHS, and they convinced me to go with them. I now got two houses under American Home Shield. Recently, my garage door's keyboard wasn’t working and the doors weren’t opening. I submitted a claim with AHS and the process was really easy. I called, they answered, and they made the appointment. Then, the techs sent me a text telling me who they were and about what time they would arrive. When they came out, they looked at the doors, did the job, checked everything about the garage door, and got it to work.
So far, everything's been good since the repair. I was very satisfied with my experience and I was able to get in and out of my garage without coming inside the house or using my car. It made it very convenient. The other contractors that AHS assigned to me have been excellent, too. I've called and they've come out the next day or the next couple days.

Total Air Care came out because the heat wasn't fully working. They said that the problem was overpressurization. So they vented off some pressure from the system. It worked fine for a day or two, and I had to have them come back out again because it was doing the same issue. So a different person came out yesterday and he said that there was a faulty outdoor coil temperature sensor that’s got to be replaced. Total Air is supposed to get ahold of AHS about that and then once they get the part, they'll call me and schedule a time to come and get it installed.

When we looked for another vendor, he scheduled a little later. Then he looked at other vendors, and then figured out this guy who did come out could make it in a short time. My recent claim with American Home Shield was for my heating system which wasn't working. This time, my experience making the claim was very good where I got through to them and they set up a contractor. The contractor delayed and I called up. American Home Shield immediately set up another person and they came and fixed the heating system. In the past, we had some challenges where the call hold times were usually 45 minutes to 50 minutes if you were lucky. It could be an hour too. Somebody would then get on the line and would not be of much help. You would have to go through hoops to get things done. Plus, there wasn't an email that you could write to escalate your concern and American Home Shield could read it. That has been my peeve with the home warranty.
With regard to my heating system, the service people who came out were nice. They did the job well this time around. The same problem with the same air conditioner happened in the summer of this year when I called American Home Shield. Despite me telling the repair person everything, he just filled in the gas and collected some money. I told him there was no airflow. He established that there was then left. It's a mixed bag with American Home Shield. I will continue to work with them but it's a bit of a challenge to get through to them. Even this time, I had to call, follow up, and do everything.

I'm pretty much very happy with American Home Shield. They take the work order and they assign pretty good companies to do the work. But recently, I've experienced a little bit of an issue with them regarding one of the items that I had asked to get repaired. I have a bidet in a bathroom. Apparently, when I placed the work order, it had a leak. One of the pipes was leaking. When I called up American Home Shield to get a company to come and work on this particular item, they took the work order, they took everything and they assigned me a company. They also took the $75 deductible that I owe them for every work order. It's been its process. When the company came to look at the bidet, they said American Home Shield does not cover bidets.
I started the argument with American Home Shield that when I placed the order, why didn't they look into my policy and into the contract before they assigned a company and before they took the $75. Had they just declined the offer, I would have gone privately with somebody else. It's still in conflict. I've called up several times, I've filed so many complaints, and they yet have not reimbursed me with the $75. Every time I speak to somebody, the customer service people are in the Philippines. Every time I speak to them, they reassure me that, "Somebody is going to get back with you within 24 to 48 hours to give you an update." But this has been almost two weeks now and I have not heard back from American Home Shield.
When I'm placing a work order and they tell me upfront, "This item is not covered," they will not take the $75 from my account. Then I'll take it to somebody else who can do it privately for me. But they took the work order, they assigned me the company, they took the $75, and then the company came and was telling me that American Home Shield is not covering it. So, I'm in conflict with them on this. They should reimburse me my $75.
Also, when the guy who took the order, the word bidet is written in the notes. It's in my account. But they have to listen to the voice recording before they make a decision. It's frustrating because right now with COVID, every cent matters. Everybody is struggling now. Nobody has free money to give out. I've also gotten a dryer fixed from them. I want them to resolve this matter for me though. Their customer service people are very nice and very courteous, but they don't follow up as they promised. They don't call back. I have no issues with American Home Shield. It's just that this one particular incident, I've had an issue. I would still recommend them wholeheartedly to others. It's a very good company.
Thanks for sharing you experience and thanks for recommending us.

I ordered a plumbing service online, then the vendor called me right away and scheduled right away, so the process was seamless. Wesley, who was the tech, was very professional and he wore, shoe covers, masks, and gloves. So far, my warranty with AHS has been very beneficial. But their website needs a few more offerings or more specifics for selecting the issue because a lot of times, if there was a plumbing issue, it doesn't necessarily give what’s the problem. They certainly cannot have everything, but it wouldn't let you submit a request online unless you checkmark something. As a consumer, I'd check the item that is closest related to my problem, so they'd schedule that vendor. When they'd call, I'd tell them that the issue was not really on the garbage disposal, it was actually this item. Then the vendor would say that they don't do that and I needed to call back.

We have two contracts. One was in North Carolina, and the one we currently have now is in South Carolina. It would have been a lot more money out of our pockets if we had had to replace the pieces of appliances or the heating system. American Home Shield has saved us a lot of money in the long run. The premium’s debited every month from our account. We pay $107 when we have a problem and then, AHS either fixes it or replaces it.
I recently had an appliance issue. The first thing was that the digital numbers, if I'm setting the oven for 350, the 5 didn't work. I couldn't set the temperature. Southern Appliance came out. They thought it was one thing, and that didn't fix it, so they ordered a second part. Then, they had to replace that whole board. It fixed the digital number part. But then, there was another problem when trying to preheat the oven. If I was preheating it to 350, and I opened the door, it went down to 125 immediately and would not come back up. So, there were three separate issues on that, and it took about six or eight weeks to get those fixed.

The technician saw that there was a problem with the connection from the thermostat to heater, and the thermostat was not kicking off. Because when he was short-circuiting, the heating was starting. He gave us a basic thermostat, replaced it so that it can start working. It's a non-programmable thermostat that was installed, and then it started working. Most of my service with American Home Shield has been pretty good except for the whole issue with the washer where I got in the wrong color. They sent me a link for a model number and the model was gray. I told the rep that the unit was comparable but mine was in white. They brought me a gray washer and this does not match the pedestal that it was on, which they originally told the contractor that it would match. The contractor brought the silver dryer when every other appliance is white and said it would work but it doesn't.
The American Home Shield rep said the last time that she had to investigate for the fact that she saw the notes that everything I had was white. I've been waiting for them to get back to me from purchasing, which they said would only take a couple of days. They had to go back and listen to all the recordings and go through all the notes. It has been almost two weeks now. As far as with this part, the service has not been so good so far.
With my service before, American Home Shield always got things done. This is minus the fact that they took a while to get some of the things done. Submitting a claim is pretty easy. I would do phone calls as to me, verbal is always the best way. With emails, people can get lost. All in all, I would recommend American Home Shield because they're a great company and they are reliable to get things done although it's not done in a proper manner.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I do want to inform you that replacements shall be comparable in features, capacity and efficiency. We are not responsible for matching dimensions, color, or brand. We hope everything is working well for you.

With the first air conditioner that we have, it was a problem because the people called Air Plus kept fixing it. The first time, me and my husband fixed it on our own out of our pocket. The second time, we went to American Home Shield. Air Plus fixed it twice. The second time that Air Plus came, they said that the lightning struck it. Now, we still have to have it fixed again. The warranty thing was confusing, but it was explained to me. AHS put everything up there on the first couple of pages. It explains your particular warranty. I was looking at the whole thing. And as I was reading down, it was different categories. So when I wanted my garage door opener fixed, it wasn't covered under my particular warranty. And then, it was explained to me that that was under a different type of warranty. But once that was explained to me, it was clear.
The service has been fine so far. Just the only gripe was that last year with the washing machine, the first technician said it needed to be replaced, which I had to wait about a week or so before they even came. And then, the second technician had to wait for them to come to diagnose it again because AHS wanted a second opinion. And it was just the timetable after not being able to wash clothes for so long. And then, they ordered a part, so then I had to wait for the part to come. But I blame that on the first technician that came out because if they did when the second came out, it wouldn't have been a problem. I had to call AHS to even get on the technician. They called them and said, "Hey, they need a contract." And then once AHS contacted them, then they called me.
Between the first technician, the second technician, and then a part, then I'm coming back out to get the part, the washing machine was fixed. I'm happy with the service. It's beneficial due to being able to get my repairs done. Recently, the tech diagnosed the refrigerator. It was during a holiday, so I thought it would be longer, but they came right back out right after Christmas and fixed it. So, the ice maker is working fine.

We had three items addressed when Savvy Tech came out. One was the microwave and it looked like there was a chip in it, but the tech said it was just the paint kinda coming off. He could touch it up with clear nail polish, so that was easy. The second thing was the refrigerator icemaker was not working and he was able to fix it. It made ice that evening, which was great.
The third item was the dishwasher. He found a screw that was loose or broken, and he fixed it. He said that should be good to go, and then he left. We ran our dishwasher that night but it was still having problems and making that loud, obnoxious noise and it was not drying. The tech said he knew what part he needed to order and it'll take 8 to 10 days and then he'll call me when he needs to come back out to install it. But if he had run the dishwasher while he was here, he would have heard the noise instantly. He would've ordered the parts then, and not the next day after I texted that it was not working. So unfortunately, it wasn't all fixed in that time frame but the tech was pretty responsive.
We called Home Shield out and told them about a pipe leaking that we could hear. But the company that was assigned never ever came out. They told us they'd be there from 9:00 to 12:00. I called them and they said they should be here any minute. But by 7:00 at night, we got a text saying, "I'm on my way." But I told them to not come. So I had to call somebody to come out and fix it that day. They fixed it because I already waited four days for them to come out. So I was not happy with that experience. We called Home Shield to get our money back because the company never showed up. The guy in customer service said they would take care of it but never did. So I still got charged for it.

Then, the tech was pretty quick in wanting to come but I rescheduled due to the holidays and it took a while for me to have open time on my schedule. But when he came out, he was really knowledgeable. He let me know what happened, how it happened, what was wrong with it, and how to fix it. After he went out there to see what was wrong, he put it through the warranty but the warranty didn't cover it 100%.
I had to find a different contractor myself, then they told me something about they might cover some of it, so I had to submit the receipt and see what they would cover of what I paid. Someone from the warranty was supposed to reach out from some different department and they never did. But I was going to hop online here soon because I got the issue fixed this morning and I have the receipt. Other than that, my experience with AHS was good.

I asked AHS to come out and take a look at the microwave. They did send Sears out to come and try to assess the issue. They tried to replace two different parts before determining that it wasn't something that could be fixed. They did a good job and put the unit back. Then they went back to the home warranty company and talked through how much it would cost to try to correct the problem. They assessed that it wouldn’t be worth that so they approved me to go ahead and get a new appliance. The process for that unit itself was fairly simple. I called, paid the one-time claim fee then AHS kind of took over from there. They let me know when the company was coming out and the name of the company that was coming. The company called me ahead of time to confirm that we’d be there. Once we were told that the appliance couldn’t be fixed, I received an email saying how much they wanted to give me to buy the appliance.
The only issue I had was the email that they gave me was on Christmas Eve at 8:30 at night. It said that I had five days to purchase the appliance and send them a receipt. It was harder because that meant that I had until Tuesday to purchase the appliance. Nobody was open on Christmas Day so that left me a Christmas weekend to try to figure it out. They didn't think through the date. But other than that, it was an easy enough experience. Once I finally bought the appliance, I emailed them the receipt to the email that they requested. I got an email saying, “We received your receipt. Somebody will call you in the next 14 days.” I have not received a call as of yet determining whether they need anything else so I'm sitting here waiting to see what's going to happen. But so far, AHS is fairly seamless. They seem to care. They’re quick to send me the emails. They’re very quick to give you information around who they’re sending out to try to review the parts. It’s just the end game where they could be a little bit better.

It was difficult because it appeared that AAA All Brands Appliance was closed Christmas Eve, Christmas and over the weekend. I wish I didn't have to last that long without heat. But they did a good job. I also called in for the water heater tank and AHS said they were sending someone out. I waited but nobody came to fix that. I finally called them back because it had a leak. They stated that they couldn't do it because those were two separate orders. AHS is slow. I called over the Christmas-New Year holiday and the techs came out and looked at my hot water tank that is not working. The guy said usually it's a couple-day turnaround. I tried to call them on Monday and AHS said they're still looking into it. Here we are Thursday and I have got no response. So, I'm not quite sure what’s taking so long. The warranty says they'll cover it but everybody says it's an easy-peasy thing and is just a turnkey. We should get rid of the old one and put in a new one. I keep hearing that, but I still have no hot water heater.
My water went from being good, to lukewarm and chilly. So, my showers are very invigorating now, which is a good thing and it gets me motivated in the morning. But my motivation is running thin and it’s killing us. There are three of us in the house and if you're not the first one in, you're really getting the ice-cold water at the end. So, at least I'm the first one up and we have been surviving, but it has not been comfortable. So, we thought the turnaround would be a little quicker and we're not sure exactly who to turn to to try to move it along any faster. When I made the phone call and I talked to the guy, he said it could be another five days.
This is the kind of the reason why I don't buy extended warranties or warranty for appliances. They promise you the world when you're buying this thing, how great everything will be, and say not to worry about it. They'd say that if you have a problem, they're going to be right there and they're going to take care of it. And then, the reality is when the issue comes up, you get to find out how they really play the game. And I'm not really too happy with what's happening right now. They're dragging their feet for what I feel should be a pretty simple turnaround for a not-too-complicated situation that I'm sure they've seen a million times. I'm still trying to have faith in them and this is the first time I'm going through the process. Maybe this is how it normally goes and I don't know what to expect.
Albert,

Everything went well with the claim to American Home Shield for my furnace. At one time, the tech came out to fix my furnace and it worked for about four days. That was the first call. Then it stopped. I called and let AHS know that it was not working. They sent the same guy and he got it fixed. I’m very pleased with the claim process. AHS has excellent customer service and today, it’s hard to find that. My experience with them has been very good. So far, they’ve been doing a good job.

I had a claim for a dishwasher repair and the tech was ready to come out in two weeks but I delayed the service for a week. He was gonna come out on Christmas Eve but I didn't want him in the kitchen while we were getting ready for Christmas. The tech was very professional. He evaluated the problem very quickly and had to order parts. The parts have arrived at my house but he has not followed up to come back and fix the problem. This was done by GE Appliances. A1 Affordable Appliance did our air conditioning the week before and they did a fabulous job. Everything's been good with American Home Shield so far.

My partner and I put in a new breaker in the box. We also put in a new switch where it had blown but it didn't fix the problem. So the guy came out and told us that we had put the wires in the wrong place. It only took him about 10 minutes to do it. I was more than satisfied. We've had very good service from AHS. This was our third or fourth time. A previous claim has been over a heat problem for the air conditioner. The motor had to get replaced and AHS saved me a bunch of money. I’d probably saved about $3,000. I would be very grateful as to recommend the promptness of the service and getting the thing done.

My recent claim with American Home Shield was for an appliance that was not working. Mr. Appliance came out the first time. My refrigerator needed a compressor, and they fixed it. Once they fixed it, the icemaker wasn't working. So, they had to repair the icemaker. But it took a few times until the final repair for the icemaker was done because as soon as they fixed one thing, something else wasn't working. But they did fix it, and everything is fine now. The guy from Mr. Appliance is wonderful. I love them.

The Elite Pro people were good. But the guy told us it would take a while to get our part. He said it would at least be three weeks. I called after about two to check on it. And Elite Pro said, “Yeah, it's supposed to probably come in in the next week or so.” I said, “Okay.” Never heard anything. I finally called American Home Shield on Monday. I told them what happened. “I don’t get it. I called 'cause you said it would be about a week. So I’ve been expecting a call of when they were gonna get it in."
Then, American Home Shield said that they got the part 11/26. So when I called Elite Pro to get an appointment, the rep said the part has been in since 11/26. She said, “They were in charge of getting the part. And they never called us to tell us that the part was in.” They were waiting. My appointment was on 11/16. It was a water dispenser, with ice, which you need during the holidays. I went from 11/16 until yesterday that it was finally put in. That was bad communication. Maybe one was blaming the other. But that was just not acceptable. I should have at least got a call back. I shouldn’t have to keep checking on it. And I’m patient.
My other rental, the timer went out on the pool. It turns the pool on and off, and you have to set it to have your pool go on. I called AHS first to see if it was covered. Because we were thinking about buying the part ourselves and doing it, because we looked online. It’s just a timer. It’s 68 bucks. We have the same one on ours. And they said, “No, it’s covered.” I said, “Okay.” The guy came and he said, “Okay. Yeah, you need a new timer.” He tried to order the part, but AHS denied it.
I called back up on the phone and I said, “What do you mean it’s denied?” They said, “Well, ma’am, if you look in your contract--” I said, “I did. And it says here timer.” They were trying to say that as long as I could turn the pool on, that it wasn’t covered. I said, “You don’t even make any sense. That's like telling me I have a timer on all my irrigation, and because I can go out there and turn the water on by myself, you're not going to cover the timer on it. That's part of the pool. That does whole system. It turns on. That’s how that works. You can't go out there and just turn it on.” They would not do it. I talked to a supervisor and I said, “This is just crazy.” I went through this for a whole week. Finally, I got ahold of somebody and they said, “No, no, that's wrong.” With AHS, it’s tough sometimes.
And the other thing is, we have a sink here. We have a specialty home. It’s a brand new home that we moved into. The thing that I didn't like is that it was a very expensive faucet, and they put in a $30 faucet. They didn't replace it with what I had. That’s the part I don't like about AHS. I have a half a million dollar home, and I have this $30 faucet in here. And because the hook ups for my custom faucet are different than that one, he had to change all the things. So even if we wanted to buy another one, now we got to change all the connections underneath. That was another disaster. The service is not beneficial in one way, because you’re not getting the same quality that you have. They’re supposed to replace it with the same quality. And sometimes, you have to wait a long time. I had three different things with air conditioning, and I had to pay for the Freon.
I have three properties with AHS. The two homes are an hour away. I’m paying $125 a visit. Some of the things we just do on our own because it's cheaper. And then some of the times, it's just more convenient to hire AHS. The reason why I have it is if we have a catastrophe that we know we can call them. That part I like, but you pay for that.
Are you still in need of assistance?

I called in for a service call with American Home Shield one time and found out I didn't need it. I cancelled it before the contractor ever came and they verified that. I made 15 phone calls. I was charged $125 and I refused to pay it because the call was cancelled before anybody ever came out. I was told by at least six different people that it was going to be taken off. But every time I went online to make a service request, that would pop up and I wouldn't be able to make the service request, in spite of the fact that they took $68 out of my account every month.
Also, if you call up and you have a problem, half the time, you can’t understand the reps. They don't speak English very well and they don't understand what it is you're trying to communicate. They argue with you and they charge you when they shouldn't charge you an upcharge. Another major problem with AHS is every single time you get service on something like HVAC or water heater, they would say they have to bring it up to code. I brought to their attention that I had brought it up to code and was charged for bringing the HVAC up to code not even a year before when they said I needed a new air mover. I dropped my plan after more than 10 years.

We had a leak in our dishwasher. I called AHS and they called the appliance company. But the guy never called, so I called him. He said, “Oh, it's gonna be a week and a half, two weeks, before we can get out to see you. I’ll call you back. Bye.” But 20 minutes later, a guy called and said he was from the company and that he was there to fix it. So that turned out to be pretty good. The guy who came in was extremely knowledgeable and very professional. He got it fixed within half an hour. I was completely happy.
When we started out with AHS, it was $30 a month. But now they're double that. When I was laid up for six months in the hospital, I was trying to figure out how to cut expenses. I saw AHS and decided to switch to somebody else. It was only $29 a month but I got exactly what I paid for, which was nothing. I had two repairs done and they didn't repair anything. It was lousy service and I didn't like them. So I went back to AHS. I was very glad I came back to them. AHS costs too much, but I love them. They're worth the money.

I've been with AHS a long, long time. I am a real estate agent so I know what else is out there for other products that's why I've stayed with the service. I had two issues that I reported recently and trying to report them was an absolute horrible fiasco. It took me quite a while to get it taken care of and I was not happy. Part of the issue was just getting through the system. When I went into the system to try to do it online, it said my email address is affiliated with the professional system. So I went into the professional system and all I can do there is order products for clients. I can't send in a service request. I was stuck with not being able to do it online and the person on the phone did not speak very good English.
The people that ended up coming out were fabulous. I had two people come out. One person came for the garage door. I turned it in on a Sunday and he called me Sunday night to make sure what was my schedule. However, I didn't hear from the first people that got assigned for the dishwasher and I called them late Monday morning. They said, “They'll be getting to you this afternoon.” They called at 4:30 and told me they couldn't even be here until this week so I ended up calling back in. I had a very nice person who said that was totally unacceptable and they got the other people to come out. It was a super easy fix.

So, I elected to not go with them. And since I couldn't utilize another provider through AHS, I requested that I be reimbursed the money that it would cost me to get a trustworthy vendor out to fix my furnace. I wanted to use RJ Mechanical and they said that Air Dynasty would be the only vendor that I could use. I didn't feel comfortable using Air dynasty because it felt like they just wanted to try and upsell me and get a whole new system. I was very unhappy with how that proceeded.
I called AHS and I was like, "Hey, I don't understand why they're telling me that basically American Home Shield's not gonna do anything for me and wanted me to spend $13,000 out of my own money." So I was like, "Okay, well, that's what I want to do because I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere with Air Dynasty and I'm not gonna feel comfortable with their work.
I've been waiting for AHS to call me back to try and help me out to fix this, but it has been cold where I'm living right now. I have the furnace guy coming to install it tomorrow. I'm paying for it out of my own pocket hoping that AHS will reimburse me some of it. I would like to see more flexibility and more follow-up. The policy is paid for. The most recent claim was for a refrigerator repair. It is a Samsung and just like everything else, more technology than I probably can understand. It was a motherboard that had gone out in the refrigerator unit. That's what needed to be replaced in order for the refrigerator to refrigerate. Submitting that claim was straightforward. I did it through the website and the algorithms bounced me back an email. It was assigned to the repair company which is at Topeka, Kansas, Dudek and they got back to me within a couple of hours. And from there, it was an issue with Samsung. They originally sent the incorrect part. But once the correct part was done, and we got scheduled to come in, it was bing bang and we were finished.
The refrigerator works well. And Jeremy, who is the technician, explained that with this unit, we have now upgraded to a newer version of our refrigerator. Apparently, our refrigerator was one of the early ones in the design cycle. We now have technology that they said, as they put these units into service, "Oh, we probably should do this." And they made changes to these things. Technically, from a parts perspective, if ours was year one, we're probably somewhere around year three and a half to year four.
American Home Shield has been very good for us to work with. And all of the contractors that they have relationships with, the ones that we have had over, know bits and pieces here and there, have all been good. I now am establishing relationships with them. If I continue in the future with AHS or not, I'm glad to know that these people are there and they have some working relationship. Overall, it's good value for money on my end.

That gentleman who helped us with the dishwasher is top-notch every time. He came out twice and he was extremely helpful and informational. This dishwasher was probably made in the 40s and I didn't know how to set the dishwasher up right. So when he came, he talked to me about the dishwasher. He told me that it had a loud engine so a lot of people wouldn't like that now. He also said that it would work perfectly fine but it'd just be loud. He fixed that and then the belt tore so he came back out. He was gonna have to get the belt shipped from Columbus. That took about two days and then he came out and finished the job. He's a really good guy and I'm really happy with the service.
I've had American Home Shield since August and these are the only two claims that we've made and we've liked it. Every time we've had an issue, we've gotten it solved very quickly. This time, we even told them that we wanted the same gentleman that we had. So, we had to wait for another week, which was perfectly fine because we liked working with him. So American Home Shield is very easy to work with.

My ice maker was not pushing ice out and it wasn’t cold enough. A service was scheduled. There was a range of time and the repair guy got there within that range. He did all kinds of tests to see if the ice maker was cooling to the temperature it needed to in order to produce ice. That was when he determined that there was either a leak in the system or there may be a problem with the compressor. He had to charge the system with Freon or whatever material he used. If the ice maker goes back to not pushing ice out again, we would probably have another problem.
With this particular claim, I made a phone call to American Home Shield. I initially tried doing the claim online but I wasn't successful with it. There was a user error or something to do with the system. I’m getting ready to do the process again because I have another problem in the garage, which I had serviced about a year ago. It started acting up about a month after I had it fixed. But since it's in the garage, I haven't really paid much attention to it.

I had a top-of-the-line garbage disposal with Sears and it broke. I'm not happy with that one that American Home Shield replaced it with because it seems to get an odor that I have to clean it all the time. The other one never did that. This one isn't quite as big too. Also my heater is having problems again. It's making a squealing noise then it would go off. I need to have someone come out and look at it again. I had a problem with my glass sliding door. The top of it looked like it was coming loose but American Home Shield doesn't cover those kind of things. But so far, the contractors have been pretty nice though one was trying to talk me into buying a new air conditioner. I did one switch off to a different company in between having American Home Shield for a long time because it was cheaper. But I decided that American Home Shield was better so I went back to it. They were bound and determined to fix my refrigerator when it stopped working and they finally fixed it.

The tech came out when they said they would. He was punctual, personable and friendly. He communicated with me. He was able to get the repairs done. I was happy. American Home Shield is fine as long as there's no problematic claim. But if you ever have an issue with something in the air conditioning, it is difficult to reach a live person sometimes.
I've had American Home Shield for a number of years and I've had difficulties with trying to reach somebody when there was an issue that required something other than just fixing it or when you had to get approval for something. That’s one of the aspects of American Home Shield that I didn't like. They sent this particular air conditioning company that would look at my unit and say that the issue was not covered. They would say that I had a maintenance issue and they said that every time. It seemed personal after a while so I would never accept any work from them ever again. But other than that, I’m fine.

He called it in for replacement, and I got the replacement. It was good. I had a great technician too. The day before Christmas, we noticed that my whole closet was soaking wet. My shower is right next to it. There was a leak somewhere. I went through the American Home Shield. I had used Kenbridge before so I was excited to use them again. They came out and assessed. They looked at several different things and ran some tests. Then they figured out where it was leaking and it literally took them five minutes to fix. But it was something that I would never think of. He also got me a contact for water damage replacement team that could come in here and dry out the flooring and get the bathroom replaced for me for whatever damage that had been done.
The claims submission with American Home Shield is easy. Whenever you're going through and submitting a claim there's a list of possible problems that you're having or whatever claim you're trying to submit there. But they should leave an open option so you could explain your problem in your words. There wasn't an option on there for a leaking shower when I submitted the claim so I just picked one from the list of possible problems. I couldn't say that the problem was a leaking pipe 'cause I didn't know if the pipes were leaking. It was also the same thing when I filed a claim for my sink where there was a leak underneath it. As an estimated guess, I clicked on leaking pipes. But they are gonna ask you and double-check everything anyway.
Thanks for sharing your experience. We appreciate it.

Submitting claims to American Home Shield can be difficult but once you get to it online, it's easier and somebody gets back to you. Sometimes though, it's hard to find that contact information. He knew right away what the issue was and had the machine taken apart and serviced in a matter of 15 minutes. I've had that machine for 15 years and I didn't know some of the things he told me.
I've been with American Home Shield for so many years and I was not always happy. I’ve had some companies that just were not good. Sometimes I’ve not gotten good service on the plumbing side. They also had somebody come out for my air conditioner and the guy didn't do the job right. So, I had to hire another company on my own to come and look at the work they did. Sure enough, my air conditioner was in worse condition before they came out so the owner of the company came out and fixed it. I was just so upset with the last company that AHS sent that I told them that I got to cool down before I even circle back with them. I was in a process of looking for another company and then it got busy, and then after that, COVID hit.

We had claims with American Home Shield for the AC twice. One AC wasn’t working and the next year, the other AC wasn’t working too. A couple of times, we had to come out of pocket because even though I'm paying more for extra, there's a base price and another price for upgrades to cover other stuff that's usually not covered such as the screws. The compressors weren’t covered, so we had to come out of pocket to fix the AC unit but we didn’t come out of pocket this time for the washing machine. So that was okay. We also did the garage door once and the dryer one time. Almost every time we use AHS, we’re always coming out of pocket. So, we were thinking about canceling it. But it’s worth getting it because if you get an old house that you don't know what's going on with it and you don't have any kind of insurance, it helps.

American Home Shield first set up one contractor who was supposed to come on a certain day. They never came at all and never called me. AHS called them and they said that they were going to call me right away but I never received a call. I called AHS back and they sent a different company out. I thought the plumber had done what he was supposed to do until I saw water on my floor. He came back out again and didn’t fix the issue. He also left my toilet about an inch off the ground. Another plumber was sent out and he said he fixed it. But again, the toilet was left way off the ground and was leaking.
The contractor came back another time and told me that they would go and exchange the toilet they had put in because maybe it came in cracked. But if that was the case, they would charge me again because I bought the toilet. But the whole problem with the toilet was that the original guy who came out left the flange part too high up. He didn't bolt it down and he put rings of wax that were too thick, which was why the toilet was sitting so high.
None of the contractors that came out fixed my toilet. I paid the guy that American Home Shield sent out to fix my ceiling because that's what they had covered. I paid him out-of-pocket because he was also a plumber and he fixed the flange that the guy messed up. He leveled them out, put another wax ring in and put the toilet down because the old guys didn't even cut the screws. He cut the screws, he resealed the toilet around and my toilet’s perfectly fine now. American Home Shield should vet their contractors better. There were two separate plumbers who came out and the second guy was telling me how he has been fixing issues that the first plumber had caused. The company keeps a guy on that they have to keep fixing stuff after. AHS should check on their contractors and see what they're doing because it was almost a week and a half of me dealing with it.

I didn't get my hot water heater fixed over the weekend. I wound up calling another company and having to pay out of pocket for it. Then by time I got in contact with AHS, they said they could send me the amount that they thought it would cost to fix it and I had to pay the rest. It cost me almost three grand. The second claim was good though. The tech was in and out. He fixed the problem and he was very timely and efficient.

I called before and they came on and said they would return my call, and they never did. But if I do the claim online, it's totally different. Our clothes washer was not coming on but a light was remaining inside the washbasin. Sears came out and the young tech who looked at it was very professional. He was on time and explained everything. It was easy to understand and he did his job very quickly. He said the parts that were needed to repair the washer were no longer available because the washer was 10 years old and that there was nothing that he could do. I had an experience with American Home Shield where a service company came to examine a problem with our washing machine, and they decided that because they had never seen the issue before, it was not going to be covered. I thought that just doesn't make any sense. I was very disappointed. This most recent visit was stellar. I was able to make the service request online. Email and text messages were immediate to say somebody is going to come. They asked for windows of opportunity and suggested times. We weren't in a rush. So, we set it up for the Monday after the New Year's. The tech came. He was very professional and courteous, and fixed our problem. The refrigerator stopped dispensing water. There were bottles all over the place. There was no added cost. It was all covered.
American Home Shield is probably a racket. My Realtor who had American Home Shield gave us a flyer on it and suggested it. I almost want to say I'm doing well enough, financially, that I can take the risk of a big-ticket item without having to pay American Home Shield every month for what the plan is, especially when they come and won't cover probably a couple different items. American Home Shield's website has been fairly easy enough to use. I put in a claim recently and the tech they assigned contacted contacted me to let me know that he would be coming on that following Tuesday. It was a very short conversation and he told me when he would be here. He also confirmed that the issue was the dryer and asked me what were we experiencing. I had neglected to ask if there was a specific timeframe that he would come on Tuesday, so I called him on Tuesday morning to see if he could he give me a timeframe, so that I could plan my day. When he picked up the phone, he said he was 30 minutes away from now and that he could come at that time. So, it ended up working out and he showed up right when he said he would.
He was able to get the repair done, too. I'm working from home right now due to the pandemic situation and my husband happened to be home, so I asked my husband to go down and communicate the rest of the job with him. But I could hear the conversation and I could hear him telling my husband about what the issue was. About 40 minutes later, I realized he was gone. I asked my husband what happened because typically, the techs would say they need a part, etcetera. But my husband said that the guy fixed the problem. He was able to go to his truck and get whatever was needed.
We also that another claim with AHS that wasn't so great that we ended up not wanting to even use that particular vendor. It was for our HVAC unit, which was our external air unit. We did one of the cash out options and getting our own service just because we were not pleased with the vendor that was sent. Other than that, I have recommended American Home Shield to a friend who said he had done research and that he heard a lot of complaints about AHS. But I told him that everybody's going to have something to complain about something. We buy a car, we complain about it. We purchase a house, we complain. I can complain about the particular vendor that was sent but I don't directly blame that on American Home Shield. The vendor needs to do some assessment internally and fix whatever they got going on.
So, people don't recognize that they need to relate more of what their experiences is and who really is the guilty party since they're accusing the bad service of that service. Is it truly American Home Shield or is it the vendor that you've been dealing with? But what people didn’t say is, American Home Shield needs to do more investigating or do a survey on vendors, and try to identify who are truly the reputable ones that could represent them as a company. And sometimes, you have to do that on a more regular basis and weed out the ones that are giving them a bad reputation. So, I just painted the picture that way to my friend. told him. But for the many years that I've had American Home Shield and for me to have one major complaint, that's not too bad.

We filed a claim back in October because our heating unit had gone bad. Right away, American Home Shield sent out Formula Air to check everything and they determined at the time that they came that our whole unit was bad. We had a combination heating and air unit and it needed to be replaced. I got contacted by American Home Shield not long after saying that they wanted to get a second opinion because of the cost being so high to replace the unit. I was fine with that.
Another company came out a week later and did their review. Again, they said that the unit needed to be replaced. The company said they wouldn't be the one replacing the unit. They would just be the one giving the second opinion and letting the American Home Shield know that the unit needed to be replaced. We kept reaching out to American Home Shield. I called them probably 15 times and all they kept saying our claim was under review. Customer service wouldn't give me any information and they wouldn't let me talk to a supervisor. They kept saying that someone would call me back but no one did. The upfront customer service people on the phones need more training. They don't know how to handle problem situations and they don't know how to escalate problems quickly enough to the right people.
Formula Air kept reaching out to American Home Shield saying, "Look, just let us know what we need to do. What's the cost? We'll work with y'all." But American Home Shield wouldn't budge and wouldn't work with them. American Home Shield kept saying that the other company would be the one to replace the unit but the other company called them back and saying they couldn't as their guy was out sick until January. It was a big runaround with American Shield from the very beginning. There were a lot of problems.
I have an elderly mother that was living in the home at the time and it was getting cold. She got sick. I searched for information on the American Home Shield company to try to get in touch with someone higher up because I couldn't get in touch with anybody. Finally, I got the right person and they got ahold of a supervisor who then got me ahold of another lady in a different department that ended up taking care of the issue from then on.
The situation turned out okay in the end, but we had to go through a lot to get to the end. A girl named Jerilynn got involved and after that, things went smoothly. Jerilyn and the her department, the executive relations department, were fabulous and had excellent customer service. She contacted Formula Air and they got everything straightened out. They had to order a part and that was another delay. In the meantime, it had gotten really cold while we were waiting. Jerilyn was able to supply us with a portable heater and electric blanket for my mother. We were happy with how things turned out.
Once the part and the unit came in, Formula Air came out and did a fabulous job. We will use them going forward for our maintenance. They were an amazing company and American Home Shgield needs to be proud to have them as one of their vendors. They need to treat Formula Air a little bit better because they didn't give them the respect that they should have gotten from the very first.

If you need to call for service, you will be talking to someone in a foreign country reading from a script who absolutely can't help you. Good luck.

The repairman was a great guy. We're in a situation where our furnace is ancient and he said, “I'm gonna be straight with you. I can only do what I can do here.” He got it up and running, but he also said, “Well, I'll recommend that you need a new furnace.”
Hi Kevin,
