American Home Shield seems to work around so we don't have to get a new appliance. We had trouble with the garbage disposal, and instead of just saying, “Get a new garbage disposal,” they help us keep going with it. I don’t feel like they're trying to sell us some stuff. However, I couldn't recommend American Home Shield to all of my friends because they're expensive, and I don't always get the money back. But I find it very convenient because they get the specialist to come in and do the work, and I don't have to know all that. It's just the one call.

My heater wouldn't come on. It wouldn't blow any hot air. I filed the claim on the AHS website. As soon as I hit submit, they sent me back a thing saying the contractor that was assigned and their contact number in case they didn't reach out to me. Service Contractors of Texas came out. I was at work and so I sent my dad over. He said that the guy that came was super friendly, very knowledgeable, and got in and got out. I have a warm house again.
I have had moments of frustration with American Home Shield when my AC was going out and I still had to fork over $1,200, plus my deductible, plus my monthly fees. It's very frustrating when they don't cover things. It's like, then why do I have them? But this time, when the motherboard was what needed to be replaced for the heater, it was covered 100%, so that was great. Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield.

It was an easy process. I called American Home Shield and they recorded the claim then sent us the first company. However, we had a problem with Douglas Mechanical. They didn't do what they were supposed to do. They closed the order and it was a mess. We made the payment for $100 then we were charged again when Air Dynasty was sent to us. I was told that that first $100 will be refunded but I haven't seen that.

We just bought this house in October and our realtor added American Home Shield to our thing. The claim process is a joke ‘cause you call them up and they’ll set you up for $75 every time, no matter what. I told the person that after they replaced the septic system, there was a leak in my front yard. They said they would send out a plumber without even looking at my stuff. The guy that they called actually called me and asked me what was going on, and I told him. He said that he does a lot of work for them and that they won't do anything that’s out of the slab. I told him that AHS would just let that go through and take that $75, as well as the one that they just got through, and take it. I called AHS back to cancel that.
This time, the plumber from Oasis Plumbing came out and looked at it a little bit. He said that there was some plumbing inside the wall that he said he needed to repair and all this other stuff, but it wasn't true. All that needed to be done was the pipes snaked out, and new caps put on the pipes. He said he didn't do that. But it says in their contract that they do. He said that he needed to open up the wall and that wasn't really necessary. He charged us $75 and said he’d get back in touch with me. He left and I never heard anything from him.
I got ahold of the American Home Shield people, and they actually told my wife that it would be $800 in carpentry work to expose the pipes. There's also a cleanout in the washroom as well as the outside of the wall, on the outside of the washroom. We ended up repairing it out of my pocket. We just had to go through the one on the outside of the wall, and we've cleaned it out, and everything runs fine.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

My microwave stopped working. We waited for close to a week and a half because we were waiting for an air conditioning person to come to fix our microwave. We knew right off the bat it wasn’t connected to our air conditioning. We spoke to a rep three times. She fought with us and said, “I'm sorry, I can't give you anybody else. This is who I have to give you.” My husband said, “I'm not calling in my air conditioner. I'm calling in my microwave.” Either the rules or regs to set somebody up is ridiculous. My husband threatened to quit with the program and find a different one. He wasn't going to wait any longer for an air conditioning man from Tempe. That’s 25 miles away from us.
The guy came and fixed it. He was quick as a bunny when we finally got him but we’re not used to waiting a week and a half for something that should have been taken care of immediately. But AHS has saved us some money so there is that positive side to it. The caveat being you have to put your foot down. It took me four times with the garage door to get fixed.
I am happy to hear that we were able to resolve your claim. Thanks for sharing your AHS experience. Please let us know if you need assistance in regards to your warranty.

A technician came out for our hot water tank. They said they tried to repair it but they said they couldn’t so they replaced it. Since then, I've been nice and warm and cozy. I really appreciate American Home Shield because I'm on my own. My husband passed away years ago, and it’s really a help. If something happens, I just call them and they send somebody out to take care of the problem. I highly recommend them.

My clothes washer was collecting water at the bottom and wouldn't drain properly in the last cycle. It spins more. So, I have to hit a button and put it on a low spin. The guy who came was remarkable. He figured out what the issue was which was an electrical connection preventing the dryer from going for a full cycle. All of a sudden, the washer started working. I called AHS to make sure that the contractor was canceled. They took care of things right away and called the contractor. It wasn't until a few days later that the washer started acting up again, so I had to reschedule an appointment. The reps whom I spoke with sounded like they cared. They were right on top of my claim.
With American Home Shield, I love that I can submit claims online. I know that even when I'm out of town, as long as I leave my username and password with whoever is taking care of my house, somebody else can file the claim. I also like the security knowing that if something goes wrong in the house, I can call somebody and I'm not going to get a $600 bill. I can pay monthly, and it's $100 deductible, and somebody comes out and fixes my issue.
Suzanne,
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

Both heaters stopped on the same day. I had one of the regular tune-up people come out and they noticed that one heater just needed cleaning, so they cleaned it. That same day, the tech from Royal Flush came out and looked at the other one. He was able to determine that it was the thermostat that was malfunctioning and not the unit itself. He was able to fix it. It started right up and everything was good. He was super friendly and helpful. Over the years with American Home Shield, they have to call someone to come and then they schedule within a day or two. In this instance, it was the next day and everything worked really well. About five years ago, there was an issue with the pool and the heater system. So I had two calls within two days, and both of the technicians were fantastic. Right now, things are really good.

Of all the home warranties, American Home Shield is the best. However, they do not use the best of the contractors around. I don't know if it's because they're less money or what. The particular experience with Brent's Pool is that they were very reliable and responsible. However, the guy's diagnosis was completely off based on what our pool service company is saying, and they're familiar with the equipment that we have. That's why we have a callback that is going to be happening next week.
98% of the time, the contractors are always very nice, very polite and very trustworthy. But skill-wise, no. I was a project manager in construction and had my own company therefore I tend to be maybe more particular than others. Also, American Home Shield should understand the geography better of where they're sending the people and where they're getting their contractors. They tend to not send particularly very local contractors. That has been my experience in California. They're sending them as far as 70 miles away. Previously when we lived in Colorado, they were sending more local contractors.

BJ Appliances addressed my appliance issue very well. One of the knobs on my stove stopped working. So when the tech first came out, he checked it and tolld me that it was going to take about five days for the part to come back. Then in about six days, he called and said that the part had come and wanted to know what day he could come out. He came out again and repaired it. He also checked everything on the stove. He was very pleasant.
My dishwasher was draining really slow. American Home Shield said that BJ's was under appliances. I was told that I needed a plumber for that dishwasher issue. This was a new company and I wasn't familiar with them at all. Two young men came and they messed up my bathroom. They messed up the carpet. They said that they were trying to unstop the sink and then a valve broke and water just went everywhere. I gave them several towels to try to get the water off the floor. They brought in some kind of fan. It took at least a week for the carpet at the entrance of the door to the bathroom to dry. All this happened at the same time with BJ. But BJ's was very professional and their tech did his job.

We love American Home Shield. I am disappointed in myself that we hadn’t done this before. We got American Home Shield only about four years ago. They have been lifesavers. We had 107 degrees temperature going on and the AC went out, and I had a brand new baby at home. I was able to call them. They got De Hart Plumbing out here, and I love them. They fixed it, and it only cost me 100 bucks. De Hart Plumbing let us know that without American Home Shield, it would have cost us $700.
We have utilized American Home Shied so much. It has really, really come in handy. They just fixed another toilet leak. I'm very, very, very pleased with them. It’s so worth it. It's a peace of mind. Even if we don’t use them, it’s still nice to know that I don't have to buy a new fridge when it goes out and that it will only cost me 100 bucks. When I had a claim for the fridge, the guy came right out and fixed it within two days. He had to wait for a part and got it done. American Home Shield is true to their word. But the contractor came out right away and fixed it. They came to do what they had to do. It was great. But then something else went bad on it. So now, I'm just waiting to get the part or the authorization to buy the part through the insurance company. It's a very, very old unit and it's been band-aid a lot, probably from different people coming out fixing it. I got a text this morning saying that M & Holmes has submitted my part order to my warranty company, and that they will call me with the install once received.

American Home Shield has been helpful most of the time. But there were a couple of times that the people said the issues weren't covered by American Home Shield. I understand like they can't cover every single thing, but things like the garage door spring should have been covered, but apparently, it wasn't. The light inside the spa wasn't covered either. When I had a claim for an induction cooktop, they didn't replace it because it's so expensive, but they gave me a good chunk of change towards buying a new one. It doesn’t cover it completely but it's better than nothing.
When the freezer didn't seem to be working, I called but by the time that ACT Appliance came, it started working again. But the guy still went through and took apart the back and checked out the compressor and all these other things. He said he checked all the parts and that they seem to be in good working order. So they were very good.

It was easy to submit a claim, but the recent one was not big. The repair guys just had to press the button and the two plugs were not working. American Home Shield didn't replace it. Also, when some big problem is going on, they mostly make excuses. The last time I had to do something with the dryer, I said, "This is covered." They said only the vent cleaning was covered. It was the same thing with the air condition. I paid $4,500 from my pocket to have it fixed. They didn't cover much and with that one, I was upset. I didn't get any advantage out of the coverage. I'm paying so much money, but what is the benefit to what I'm doing? It helps a little bit, but not much. Still, everything was good.

The heat went out and you could hear the blower kick on. But it was just blowing cold air. The first time the tech came out, he said it was the igniter so he replaced it. This was back on March and at the time, the weather was making that transition into getting warm. I still wanted to get it fixed, so that when winter comes, we would be all good. So, he fixed it. It was kicking and we used it for two days and then, cut it off. Then, we started using the AC afterwards. This year, when the winter started, I had the same issue. So, it worked for two days and we finally cut it off at three days, and it kicked off again. So, I called the contractor back. Another guy came out and said that the igniter was fine. It was our flame sensor. It was dirty so, he cleaned it off and then, it kicked on. He said that everything was good to go. He tested it and it was kicking hot air. That lasted for a day. Afterwards, it went out and started blowing cold air again.
I tried to get up there myself and see if anything went wrong because the guy said that I might have to use a cleaning. They could come out and do some cleaning on the system and that should help. I had to call him again and when he came out, he said that he checked the igniter and replaced it. He checked the flame sensor and cleaned it. He dug deeper and said that it was the circuit board. It was the whole reason why the other two were going up. So, I spent $300, getting the technician to come out to assess something. I appreciate when he came out. He was very knowledgeable about explaining the circuit board and how it affects the flame sensor and the igniter. But it took three times for the techs to come out here to identify that the circuit board was going up and that was the main issue. Nevertheless, he was professional and courteous.
Everyone that I've dealt with at American Home Shield has been great. I was explaining my frustration to the rep about paying the fee. She said that I was gonna have to pay the fee because that was not for the service. It was for the technician to come out. I understood that but I couldn't keep kicking out $100 for the technician to come out to keep trying to diagnose something. They need to fix it. If they come out several times, I would have to pay several hundred dollars and I couldn't keep doing that. I said that was enough. We were going back and forth so, I said I would just deal with it and to let the tech come out. I would spend the extra $100. And then I told her to let me try calling United Air Temp.
The girl at United Air Temp was extremely nice, courteous and she understood. She didn't want me to keep having to pay the service fee of $ 100. She said that a technician could come out to my home because I was still in that warranty window and it shouldn't be a problem. She told me to call my insurance company back and tell them that I was within that window. The tech would come back out and there would be no fee if they were going to diagnose it. So, when I called back, I dealt with someone different and the girl was nice. I have AHS for both my properties and they provide an exceptional service. I'm not gonna let that one time with the girl change my views on the service overall.

The part of the furnace that's inside the house started making noise when I turned it on for the heat. So Myers Comfort Specialists came out and they checked it. It needed a new roller part inside there. So, the tech replaced that for me. When I purchased the house last year, the owners paid American Home Shield for the year. Then I paid for it to renew. It's on myself now. So whenever I make a call in, they take the 125 payment first upfront. Then the company that is going to do the service call will call me and set up an appointment time for them to meet me at home.
American Home Shield doesn't have anything where they can try to do something more for emergencies. So if it had been an elderly person in the home with it having been this hot this summer, they'd have to stay shut up in the house two or three days in the heat until someone could actually come out and see about it for them. That was what I really didn't like. During the summer, my air conditioner went out because it needed a new motor on the outside unit part. Luckily, my kids weren't there but I did have two little house dogs that live in the house.

The contractor was quick to come to the house to diagnose the problem as well as to get the part needed to repair the garage door opener. They were very professional and fast. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield used to be horrible but it’s getting better. The only drawback with them are those AC companies that they hire. Instead of hiring local people, they hire these massive companies that they operate in different states. They don't even have a local office and they're normally horrible. Last time, I had a problem with my heating and Total Air Care was completely horrible. I dealt with them a few times. Every time you deal with a local company from the town, you have the better outcome than dealing with those big companies.
Also, I’m a Spanish speaker but I’m one of the persons who refuse to press one for Spanish and two for English. When you call American Home Shield and wait to talk to a representative in the English speaking line, you can be on hold for 40 minutes. But if you press one for Spanish, it’s normally right away. You get a service, which is wrong in a way. You're in America and when you call to talk to somebody, it should be quicker to speak to somebody in English than somebody in Spanish. I'm finding that with most of the companies, not just with American Home Shield.

Three toilets were getting stuck. The tech just put three new components in the tank. And then I had a stop at the kitchen sink, which he cleaned out adequately. I didn't get him to look at this leaky thing that was listed. That was both of our faults. Because he had it on his thing, and he didn't check it off, and neither did I. Other than that, everything went well. However, I live in the northern counties of Los Angeles County, which is the most populous county in the United States. And I live on the county to the north of it, which has a lot of people in itself. But American Home Shield chooses companies in the far side of LA, literally an hour and a half drive from my residence, to come and service me. They're not in my area, not even remotely in my area. And I don't like that at all. Sometimes they said, “Well, we have satellite people—” No.
I can't believe that there isn't a more local source. Sometimes there is, sometimes there isn't. I know American Home Shield does it because they want to get a cheap deal. It was not the same service I would get if I called up a local electrician. Because of the nature of the insurance, American Home Shield has to get people who will do the job for the least amount of money possible. It just doesn't make sense to me. It has been infuriating since I got them. Every time some of the contractors say, “Okay, this is the last time we’ll cancel.” Most of the time I've had good people. Other times, I did not feel comfortable with who the providers were.
This time, in both cases with the electric and the plumbing, the people who came to the house were very nice. But they make mistakes. It doesn't look like the people who answer the phone can make the appointments with the people that are going out in the field or doing stuff like that. But that's not the end of the world. It's just mostly that I have always been disturbed that a company as large as American Home Shield can't find a provider within 65 miles. We have 36 million people. I'm not helping out my local community.

We had an old door opener and when the direct sunlight hit the garage door, you couldn't close it because the beams weren't connecting. The guy from Ace Garage Door came out and kind of played with it. That was in May, and a week later, it went back to how it was. I just played with it and finally, I got fed up and called again. He came out and said the only thing we can do is change it. He changed it. That's been about a week or so and I'm gonna call him again because I can't close the door when the sun directly hits it.
American Home Shield's claim submission process is very easy. My only problem is I live in Stockton. The guy for the plumbing came out from Modesto. The guy for the garage door came from Oakland. It would be nice if these guys were more local. I like to support local people. I'm sure the Ace Garage Door guy will come out and play with it and make it right. Overall, American Home Shield has taken care of everything I wanted.

He wore his mask and stayed distant from us when he came out. He was very good. I had an issue with the microwave. I alerted American Home Shield through the online process and it was a piece of cake. It was one of the easiest ways. They deal in a professional way. I was informed. Every information was online. I could see who they are assigned. I got the call from the assigned contractor in the given timeframe. He then came and assessed the microwave, and he said that they needed to order the part. But it took a long time. It took a month and a half to get all the parts. They canceled the first appointment, and they reschedule the appointment. In-between, I had to buy a microwave. And they didn’t call me. They were just waiting for parts. When the part came, the tech said, “Oh, we need to replace this microwave.” Nothing for a month and a half, but they could have done it in the first appointment. But other than that, I love AHS. I've been recommending all of my friends and they all have AHS because of my own experience.

They explained to me what the issue was and then after fixing it, they explain what they fixed and how they fixed it. They also gave me some instructions. He had the part on his truck and he fixed it. That was awesome. I had heard bad things about that company so I was pleasantly surprised. The technician was really good.
I wanted to use some of the people that we have used before and American Home Shield wouldn’t let us. If I ever have to have the unit replaced, I want to have it replaced with a reputable company. Then I don't like speaking to people in different countries. It’s hard to understand people when they're not in the same country and it's hard to understand accents. That ticks me off and I don't like it. There's a language and culture barrier when reaching out to their customer service.
They should stop putting their call centers in different countries. They should also allow customers to choose companies instead of them choosing those. There are people in this world who would take advantage and try to pad somebody. That's a problem and that is why they have to go by so many different ones that they have chosen to fix the problem. It would be great to be able to use local people instead of people that are national.

We've owned our house since early 2015 and AHS was part of our purchase. We've been re-upping it ever since. We've used it for a variety of appliances and issues we've had and we've been really happy with it. We always get people who are professional, who do a good job, and who know their stuff. If they can't fix it, then they legitimately write us up for a new product so I had a few appliances installed like a new dishwasher and a new washing machine. We picked up the difference but I definitely think that it’s been worth it.
I used to have to call. But recently, I've just been doing it online. I get a response within a day and I never had to call a repair person. They always call me the next day. It's usually like, “Hey, we can be out there tomorrow.” It’s not like I'm waiting months to get anything fixed. Most recently, we dealt with a guy named Rodney and he was fantastic. We couldn’t be any happier. He fixed our problem. In the midst of it, I found out that he had to do a few things. I told him to take some time off but he came over and fixed our dishwasher, and it only cost us $75 service fee. It’s been a good experience with AHS. I would recommend it to any of my friends or family having a home warranty. It's such a neat thing to have.

My furnace was not operating correctly. Fast Response came in and assessed what was going on. Nate was the technician and he educated me on the process. He mentioned that there are more efficient furnaces out there. So I'm looking into that. But overall, he looked at the thermostat and at the thermocouples, and he made sure everything was working well. He assessed that if I wanted to have more airflow in my house, I needed to upgrade the furnace. So he did a good job.
The claims process is pretty simple. I've done a couple of claims online and if I'm not in front of a computer, I can call the 800 number. With COVID going on, there might not be enough agents, so it's a little bit long of a hold time. But that's understandable, based on what's going on in this world. So it's fine. I like the technicians that they send out. I'm very particular with who I have in my house. So I want to know upfront who was dispatched, and American Home Shield does a good job of doing that. After I have time to research the company that's coming in, if I don't feel comfortable, then I'll call them and they can reschedule and get me another contractor. That's huge.

The appointment with Queen Electric went fine. The issue was taken care of. It was something I probably didn't even have to call for. But it was great. The guy was on time and courteous. He showed me what the issue was and fixed it. On the other hand, the one that I had trouble with was an appliance company. They came to fix my microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator. The guy was courteous. Everything was good. But when he left, he told me I would be able to use my microwave. He said he had to get a few parts. When he left, I thought I would be able to use the microwave because he told me that all I needed was a part. And I thought the part was for the turntable. But when I went to use the microwave, it didn't heat. There was no heating element.
I didn't like the girl’s attitude when I called on the phone. I said, “I'm going to need him to come back out because he told me I'd be able to use my microwave.” And she said, “Well, I'll give him the message. But I don't think he'll call you back.” That was unprofessional for her to say. Also, I told her my microwave didn't heat and she kept telling me the name of the item that he was supposed to get. It's called a magnetron. I didn't find out until calling American Home Shield that a magnetron is the heating element.
Why would the tech tell me I could use the microwave and the part was a part that wouldn't affect the usage of it? And the girl on the phone, when I called Creative Connection, didn't handle it correctly because she never called back. Also, I had to call AHS to get them the call to get the bottom-line as to what was happening with my microwave. I told American Home Shield, “After this is complete –” because he does have to come back to bring a part for the dishwasher and a part for the microwave to make it work fine – “I will probably add another appliance company onto my contract so that I'll never get them again.”
In addition, their price went up recently but I never got correspondence that it would go up. That was sneaky. I paid $55 a month for a long time, and then it went up to $63. The girl that called last year when it would go up gave me a courtesy call and said my account was about to expire. But this year, I didn't get anything. I just saw an increase. But other than that, everything that was handled so far has been fine.

It was very hard to get service in the area that we moved from. The service providers in that area actually stopped working with American Home Shield. When COVID hit, it became even more complicated because they would say we could source our own because they couldn't find a service provider in our area. I'd have to call them before the service provider did anything and we have to get their approval. But these providers were saying, "No, we're not going to sit on the phone," because it was taking us an hour to an hour and a half to get through to somebody. Their time was valuable and they weren't gonna stand there and wait until we got through to American Home Shield to get an approval for them. So we went through a little bit of a hassle.
We paid for a service provider that came out to work on the air condition during the summer when it was hot and American Home Shield had lots of customers that were calling them. I had to go through their corporate office, and then I wrote a letter to them because it was horrible. But the provider that came out for the dishwasher was phenomenal. He was really good. He was very professional, knowledgeable and helpful.
If I request service online, it's a piece of cake. But if I have to call, it's very difficult to understand and communicate. Most of the people don't have the same information and I usually get passed off several times. I had that issue last week. We tried to schedule the pre-season check for the heating and air conditioning because we have a brand new house and we don't know how everything works in it, and we didn't know what we really had or didn't have. So I marked heat pump and ductwork, and turns out that we had four units in the house and they aren't heat pumps.
The service provider that came out put an explanation where it's not a heat pump and he would only look at one and he walked out of the house. So we wasted our $100 with them. They said, "Hey, call us up for a diagnostic and it's $99." But what would have been the difference in the $99 that I would pay to them versus the $100 that I paid to American Home Shield and the way that they handled it? I was very upfront with both American Home Shield and the service provider. If needed, I would have been happy to pay more for more units. But the guy just left, so we won't go with that HVAC company and I'll let American Home Shield know that so that they don't use them again as well.
When I worked with American Home Shield's corporate office, they were more than helpful to try to get my other resolution on the other situation I had. It was kind of a shame that I had to go through that process to do that because they have been very responsive. But part of it was that area too and that they struggle in smaller areas to get reputable providers or providers that are available on that site.
The feedback that I've gotten from service providers is that they try to lowball them. So there's a little bit of heckling from their side and negotiating with American Home Shield. They don't want to get paid the lower rates if they know they can work for somebody that is going to pay a different rate, so maybe meet in the middle, and they helped with that. We moved near Philly so I don't think we'll have the same challenges, except for this HVAC guy that was not very polite. But I would recommend American Home Shield to anybody. They've served us well over the years and we've had multiple houses and contracts with them.

I was having problems with my electrical outlet. I put in a request to American Home Shield and I didn’t hear for several days. So, I made a follow-up call and they told me that they were waiting to have someone respond. The person came out the following Monday. The tech told me what time he was gonna be here and came within that time frame. He was knowledgeable, very friendly and resolved my problem right away. Since he has been out, I haven't had any more problems. At first, I was very frustrated and disappointed. I needed the service because it was in my kitchen so I wasn’t able to fully utilize it. But the vendor was fine and the repair helped a lot. Now, I'm able to have a fully functioning kitchen.

I just moved into this house about four months ago. The tub is original and it's over 20 something years old. The drain thing was starting to crack and peel away, and I was concerned about leakage. I called American Home Shield because I wanted to confirm that it was covered. Once we confirmed it was under my coverage, everything went from there. The process was easy. One call and they put it in motion. I was told I would be contacted within was 24 hours if not the same day. The repair guy then came out to see if there was any problems with the connection or if there was any leaking going on and he didn't find anything.
The tub is really old. It's pushed down in the front like somebody put a weight on it. That was putting stress on the drain. If I stand in the tub or take a shower, I'm going to put more stress on it. It's going to put the tub down, lift the drain up, and then it's going to start leaking. My big concern was that that was going to start happening, but he looked at it and said it looks like it's all connected good.
I keep looking at my ceiling downstairs to see if there's any water damage and I was wondering, would I be seeing it or not? He said, “Oh, yeah, you'd be seeing it long time ago.” He even went out to his car and got a drain with a pipe attached to show me how it connects underneath. He showed me that if there was a leak, how much water would be going through. It wouldn't be just a little drip. He walked me through everything and he explained it in detail. I felt great after he left. I was glad that he talked to me. I had peace of mind. I know that I don't have to worry, even though it looks like it's a problem. For right now at least, it's not.

One of my heaters wasn't putting the heat. Two days after I submitted a claim, Piedmont Mechanical Contractors came and fixed the heater quickly and efficiently. Most of the time AHS is totally great. This claim was very smooth and it was probably the best one I had. But, there was one before where it took four months to get by Home Shield because they made a typo on the address when they sent the check. The replacement finally got here still with the wrong address. It was impossible to get somebody who knows what they are doing to fix that. AHS covers the things they say they'll cover to the extent they say they'll cover it. It's just very hard to get in touch with someone when things don't go as expected.

I have an account with American Home Shield. When our furnace would come on and then it wouldn't, I called them and it wasn't difficult at all. The repairman then came, went downstairs, moved the box and tightened something up. The heat has been doing well since. We change our filters every three months and we keep up with the date when we change them. I recommend American Home Shield to friends. It's a good company, which is why I keep dealing with them. When they send people out, they normally come out within a day. We work along with the different companies and we try to make sure to keep up with the different things that they do.

I called AHS on December the 2nd and they sent somebody out here who said there was a missing part. AHS rejected the claim because there were missing parts. On another claim that I made through them, I'd gone on vacation in the summer and when I came back, my air conditioner wasn't working. They told me that they couldn't fix it so I had to get a new unit in the attic. I paid $4,047 for this new unit. For someone to come in and say there are missing parts, I don't know when, why or how it happened. I've been having heat for seven years.
AHS told me we could get a second opinion. I told them I'm on a fixed income. I don't have money to be giving them $100. I had to go through four of the people from the company and got me all upset. I have elderly people in here. It was cold and I didn't have any heat. The problem was the company that AHS called out before South Belt AC & Heating. South Belt came in here and the guy was up there no less than five minutes and fixed it. There was no missing part. He was very professional and very friendly. But I had been through so much frustration with the last two claims that I made. I'm looking for another company because this is how upset I am and I would not recommend AHS anywhere to any one of my friends.

I submitted my claim online through the American Home Shield website. It's a well-designed site. My claim was an issue with my electrical panel. The tech was professional, wore a mask, and was fast. I was impressed. On the other hand, I had someone come out to look at a plumbing issue that was denied, which was frustrating because I needed to find another plumber.
The technicians explained that. But the home warranty itself, when it was purchased, was not well explained. My understanding is that the vast majority of potential problems are not actually covered by this policy, which had I known then, I probably wouldn’t have purchased it. And when the claim was denied, I still had $100 for a service call, which is also pretty frustrating. It’s not just at that level, but the real estate agents who recommend warranties are unaware of this as well. So it's not just the consumer facing, it's whatever commercial programs are out there, too. AHS is valuable if you have a good understanding of what's covered, but not so much if it’s not a good fit for your circumstances.

We noticed a bit of warping in some of our wood and called American Home Shield, and the contractor came out. They saw that there was a nut and bolt that was warped and not secured properly. That was what caused the leak. His name was Javier. He was very helpful and he fixed it within a half hour. We have warranty through AHS just for the first six months of our house that we bought. And we love it. They do a great job, they're professional and quick to fix the issues that are in need of fixing. We will probably continue using it in the future.

Then we found out that our downstairs kitchen tap was not closing properly. We also had a stain on the ceiling. They looked at it and said that there might be a leak. We asked them to do it and they said that those were not in the order. We called AHS back, and the second time, we put in those two things. Two weeks later, the guy came in and did both of them. The tap is doing good but it's showing its age. It's still fussy and we just have to change the tap eventually. It was not of good quality. Then we have to keep an eye open on the stain if it gets bigger. I'm hoping that fixed it, but I believe this guy. I liked him. It's just that I'm not very happy with AHS because it's $75 per month and then $75 per thing. So, although the overall service is pretty good, it's quite expensive.

I happen to be a customer for the last three years and I used to pay less premium like $400 for a year. Suddenly, this year, AHS increased by $250 dollars. I was thinking about shopping around, but I don't have time. That's the reason I'm continuing this. But $400-plus to $600-plus is a big increase. I'm seriously considering and going to shop around when I get some time. I have another service request that's still open. The second thing is about my water faucets and toilet sinks, some leaking. And when the plumber came and saw, and he suggested to replace the faucet handle, he gave me two options. He could either buy and replace and charge to AHS, or we could ask the warranty company if they could replace it free.
We went with the second option, and I spoke to Moen and they were very kind enough to send me all the handles. It saved a lot of money for both of us. AHS doesn't need to buy all those equipments. So, I'm trying my best to keep the cost down for even AHS. But still, I am asked to pay the $200-plus in the annual membership. That's a lot of increase.
Recently, my circuit breaker broke and there were also a couple of other issues like the switchboard and my GFCI switch on the kitchen. I thought there would be a bigger issue in the circuit breaker, but it was a simple loose connection. Alejo Electric fixed it easily. Submitting that claim was a simple process. The only thing was, I hoped for them to come on the same day, but they came on the next day. One of my room power supply was cut off. And because of that, the internet was down, and that affected the online schools for the kids. That was the reason why I even told American Home Shield it was an emergency. Sometimes American Home Shield's agent takes things a little personally like they're having their own business. They make some decisions regarding their feelings without following the standards of the company. I have friends who have the same program through AHS and they have felt the same thing. Other than that, most of the techs have been very polite, helpful and knowledgeable. Sometimes, they're very unfair to customers like me who have a single-family home and everything is well organized. They try to push the cheapest product to fix the issue but it's not matching. I'm not telling them to give the expensive stuff but the reasonable one.
A few years ago, I had a problem with my outside recessed lights. The techs came and they were trying to push the cheapest fixtures. So, I said that I will buy the right one and their tech could install it. AHS said that wasn't an option and that it was their job to get the piece that they recommend and put it in. They put in a cheap kind of light that doesn't match the house and so the house value goes down. If a homeowner is willing to buy the right product and give it to AHS to install, it is the same thing. They are saving money because they don't have to spend for the item. It's a huge issue that homeowners are facing not only with AHS but with most of the companies providing home warranty service.

Within two or three months, I've had to use AHS twice. The first time was for plumbing and it went really well. The plumber was determined to fix the problem. However, I had to pay for them to remove the commode. That needs to be a part of the cost. If you have a blockage, you're gonna need the commode removed. But that was the only thing with that and the people were really nice.
The other claim was for my furnace. I had two companies to come out. The first company recommended a new furnace but I wanted a second opinion because I just had a furnace put in in 2014 and I didn't think I needed a new one. That was a hard problem because American Home Shield doesn't do second opinions. But I had the second opinion and that was when One Touch came out. They fixed it. They said the ignition had worn down. The company before them took the ignition off with them. I don't think they thought I was gonna get a second opinion. About five days later, we had a hiccup because the ignition started dropping. The guy came out and before he could open the doors, it dropped and I haven't had any problems since. With the money you pay monthly to AHS and the service fee that you have to pay too, you can save that and put it in the bank. If I would have saved that for four years, I wouldn't have to worry about it.

The biggest issue was that he did not wear face mask. When we asked him to do that, he wore it, but it was a very dirty face mask and it was torn. We offered to give him one of those disposable blue masks. He said he did not want. He was respectful. He wasn't loud or anything. But he said no, he was okay to wear his own mask.
That was an issue because, obviously, I could see that the mask was torn, was very dirty so there was not much protection going on. Also, the person himself looked so disheveled that it made me a little uncomfortable having someone come into our house to take care of something. I called back the office right away because I had my kids in the house. That person should not go to other person's house for servicing.
American Home Shield overall has been okay. We have had some good companies that have come to service our houses which made me happy about having them. But because of the price increase, and at the same time, even as the cost has increased, we have realized that the quality of the contractors has gone down in the last year or two years. My husband and I talked about it as a family, that we probably need to think about that.
Are you still in need of assistance?

The hot water heater kept on tripping a breaker. JQ Air & Electric called me the same day I submitted and the guy came out right away. He looked at it, did some tests with an electrical meter, determined that it was the top and bottom elements, and said he was going to have to submit that order to American Home Shield. Then about three working days, they called me up and said they got the okay to do it and the parts, and came right out and took care of it. It was a great experience.

I've been with American Home Shield for about three years. I had called in for my refrigerator and the lady that I had talked to initially was outsourced somewhere else. I didn't call the people so I called back the next day and the lady that I had talked to was very helpful. She told me that the person hadn't tried to notify anybody. The second person got in touch with someone and kept me on the line to make sure that there was a connection. The person that she had contacted called me the next day so it turned out to be okay. Everybody was very polite but the initial person didn't do her job. I was gonna complain about that but the second person did.

We just moved into this house, we got the warranty, and we noticed a couple of our outlets weren't working. So, we wanted to see how this warranty works. It was mostly my wife that handled the claim. I understand she had zero issues getting it initiated and received confirmation immediately that somebody was going to be out. Then, that individual reached out to us via text message to schedule and was here about 10 minutes late. But as far as I'm concerned, he was right on time on the day of the work.
I was at work, but my wife said he explained one of the outlets. The only issue was it was connected to a GFCI switch. The other one, there was an issue, so he was able to swap that out. Then, he went as far as to check a couple of the other outlets, and found one that was rather loose and took it upon himself to swap that out for us as well. She said he was incredibly polite and was in and out within 45 minutes. Our first and only experience using American Home Shield, so far, was smoother than you could hope for.

We've only ever put in two claims with American Home Shield. One of them has just been resolved. Everything was very easy when submitting the claim for our sump pump. It took two days for the guys to come out and they did their job. They were very professional. It was a very pleasant experience. The other claim we have is still outstanding. It was about our first claim for the vent thing above the stovetop. We had a contractor come out and determined that it was old and unrepairable so we needed to completely replace it. We still have to talk to the purchasing department but they're only open Monday through Friday. Other than that, everything has been very pleasant customer experience-wise.

Something wasn't working on my house so I called American Home Shield. We love what we got. They were on point and professional. A guy called me and he gave me the exact time when he was going to come. If it would fit in my schedule, I called him back. I told him I was not gonna be there but I gave him instructions on where to go. The tech did a good job. At first, he fixed the unit to where it was gonna work because he said it needed a new motor. It worked for a couple of days then it stopped working. I called them back and I said the unit was not working anymore. The guy told me he was waiting on the motor and as soon as it came in, he was going to come back and replace it. He called me the next day saying that the motor was in and he came and replaced it. So far, the unit is still working well. Hopefully, nothing else breaks down. But if one does, I hope to get a good experience like I did with American Home Shield the first time.

I normally do that every six months or so. The experience with AHS has been very good. I call and they file a claim. A shop makes an appointment, comes out and gets it done. On Thanksgiving Day, my washing machine blew up. The technician that came to repair it said he's never seen that happen before. He said that when it was on the spin cycle, the suspension rod disengaged. So, it was spinning, it banged up against my wall, at the hole in my wall, and it busted out my closet doors because of the velocity of it spinning. I had to unplug it to get it to stop. Appliance Yikes was awesome because they gave me a one hour window and their tech showed up on time. Typically, when people come out, they give you a four to six-hour window. He said, "I'm coming between 9:00 and 10:00." He got there at 9:15. He serviced it. He said it was unrepairable, which is what I thought, and he said he was gonna file a claim. He filed a claim the next day or that day. All of that went well.
The whole process after he did what he did has been confusing to me because I got an email that said that American Home Shield would give me $584 towards a new washer, which meant that I had to go and pay for it upfront myself, and then American Home Shield is refunding me. Then after that, I found out that they offered an option for me to pick one that they have and get it delivered. I feel that there was a disconnect between the time the guy filed a claim and said it was unrepairable and the communication with me as to what my options were. I have used my money and purchased the washing machine. It's supposed to be delivered on Saturday. I filed the paperwork with American Home Shield and I don't know how long the reimbursement's gonna take. I filed the reimbursement on Tuesday, so we'll see how long it would take. It said 21 days.
I used to be with 2-10 Home Warranty, and when I was there and I had things like this happen, they would contact me and tell me what my options were. They sent me a link, I was able to pick from whatever they had in their inventory and that way, I didn't have to come out of my pocket upfront. Now, if I didn't want what was in their inventory, I could take the reimbursement method. American Home Shield didn't give me that option. I was told I had to be reimbursed up to $584. Then, on an email later, it said that since I chose not to go that route, I needed to file the paperwork to be reimbursed. I was like, "Nobody ever gave me that option." It's Christmas, and if I could have kept several hundred dollars in my pocket, I would have preferred to keep several hundred dollars in my pocket. The washing machines are expensive. Other than that, the appliance company that they used was awesome. So, it was a good experience.

We have used American Home Shield a couple of times through the years. I've had good experiences. We only had one claim so far this year. It was a leak in the faucet extension that comes down. It's a flexible tube that hooks up to the faucet itself, the extension that you pull down to wash out the sink. The plumber that came over was excellent. He did a great job. The problem that we had was he didn't have the part, so he had to order it. That was a bit of a problem because every time we wanted to use the sink, the leak would come. But there was nothing he could do about that and we understood. He was very nice and polite, in and out, fast, and clean. I even asked some of the questions that had nothing to do with the problem of the sink. He took 30 seconds to explain to me what it could be and I took care of it myself. I was very satisfied. Everything was done fair and square, upfront and as fast as possible.

It's always been good with AHS. We've had to use them over the years. It seems like when one thing breaks, you get three or four in a row. Then I'd go years where I don't need to use them. But when I've needed to use them, they've always been here. The technicians have been great. I've had two claims recently. I have two refrigerators that were being repaired. One of them is fixed and there's a glitch with the other one. The guy thought it was a compressor and he put the compressor in but it didn't work. It's a really old refrigerator (17 years old) but he worked hard to try to fix the problem. He was a nice guy. We also had a great guy a few years ago come and fix our dryer. We have an old dryer too (probably 20 years old) and both of them said the same thing, “Don't replace it because the old ones are better than the new ones.” So, we kept the old dryer ‘cause he said these ones run forever.

My home is older so figured it would behoove me to get a home warranty. Plus, one of my coworkers swears by the warranty. So I figured, why not? The most recent claim I filed with American Home Shield was for the dishwasher. It was good. However, you have to read all the fine print, which I didn't take the time to do. When the plumber came out and fixed my sink, that got fine. Then he fixed the toilet. But then the toilet was back to doing the same thing. It did that a couple of weeks after he left and the ticket was closed. He needed to get further into the wall because of the tile but he couldn't do that. So, they couldn't correct the leaky valve in my shower. That was disappointing. But even more disappointing was the fact that about two weeks later the toilet was back to not working properly. And I'm not about to make another claim after I just paid the money for it. I'm not paying another deductible on the same toilet problem. I was mad.

It's fairly easy to put the claim in. I sent in a claim for a garbage disposal and a toilet leaking. The contractor texted me and they said they were coming this time and if it worked for me. I said yes and they showed up. The issue was a faucet that the cold water got hard. The tech did something with that. I had one other incident with the Home Shield itself but they never resolved it. Somebody was supposed to get back to me about it, but never did. After four people called me, they said, "Well, we'll see what we can do."
They replaced my water heater, but on the phone I specifically asked the lady about the tankless water heater. They have me in a record confirming three times asking would I get the tankless waster heater if I was paying them this X amount of money. It was really bad communication with the English. The rep confirmed three times that I was getting the tankless water heater. But when they came, they installed a regular one. I asked them to reimburse some of the money I paid because I was under the impression it was the tankless water heater, but they never got back to me.
Overall, Home Shield does a good job. They're very good at responding, dispatching, and resolving the claim. But in handling their concerns, they're not very good. I've talked to three different managers, but none of them were able to step beyond what they were told. I was almost to the point that I was going to go for a different company, but I stayed. They had to go through the investigation to find out if there actually was a case. They said I did have confirmation, but the lady didn't know. But in general, most of the vendors they send out here do a pretty good job. They're pretty knowledgeable people and they show up to do the work and outta there. Even the guy replaced the water heater did a really good job.

The other claim was for a plumber, which I never got. They couldn't get one to come to our area and so I asked that they reimburse me for what they were going to charge me for the plumber coming out. They did that. That was early in November. It's in the end of December now and I still have the problem. I was just waiting to make sure I got the reimbursement. I got my statement yesterday and I saw the reimbursement was on there. Now I'll get a plumber out here. But then I don’t think I should have had to pay 70 something, 99 for them to come out every month for Home Shield. I also don’t think I should have paid the service fee for those two months when they can't send me out a plumber.
I have a pump down in the basement and American Home Shield used to cover that. Now, they don't. When the plumber came out, he suggested a new toilet be put in. Then they said to just fix what's there, so he did. At that time, they had a plumber come out but he wasn't local. I'm debating whether to keep them next year because they don't cover it. I love the service for the most part. I call in to get a work order and usually, somebody will be out to look at my appliances within 48 hours. That is wonderful. But if you’re not a computer savvy person, then to get all the replacement is a little difficult. Also, even when you call to talk to a representative, that's a two hour wait.
I called a work request in and American Home Shield sent somebody out pretty quick so that was a good thing. The only flipside of it was that they said they were not able to repair my appliance so they had to replace them. That was when the headache started. They were gonna replace it with a GE but I have a Kenmore. I have to go out and buy one because I have a wife and two daughters, and I can’t go that long without a washer. The microwave broke before Thanksgiving and they said the earliest they will get a replaceable microwave to me would probably be the first week or second week of January.
My air conditioner kept going out. In the summertime, it’s 100 degrees. They send somebody out but they can’t repair it. They don’t have the part on hand so they got to order a part which takes two weeks. They don’t say, “The part is gonna come in two weeks. Assuming it comes in, we’re gonna have somebody out there to put that on.” It’s like the part comes in then they schedule you almost another 10 or 14 days before they even get a repair person out there to put the part on to even fix it. I have to do a lot of research in my house for my job. When my study is 95 to 100 degrees, I ain’t doing too much research. What I ended up doing was I had to go ahead and buy another unit. The people they would send out would say the unit is not good. But what they tell American Home Shield is they can repair it. They would repair it then within three or four weeks, it’s breaking down with something else. I've been dealing with that for almost five years.
I would recommend American Home Shield to my friend because the good outweighs the bad. I have two contracts with them. Sometimes in my rental property, I have issues and it’s easier for me to call and get a repair person over to the house through the company. Some of people that take the phone call are friendly and very helpful. It seems like I always get the ones who are having a bad hair day but like with everything else, sometimes people have a negative attitude and I can understand that.
When you deal with old people, they’ll give you a piece of their mind. You had a bad conversation with this person so with the next caller you get in, you’re ready to just blast this person because you’re already upset with the last caller. Now, I come in and I’m trying to get some work done. You’re not listening to me and you’re not communicating with me. You’re like, “This is what the company offers and this is all you get. So don’t ask me any more questions.” When I ask to speak to their supervisors, that's gonna be 35 to 45 minutes wait. But for someone who doesn’t really have the money to buy a new appliance right away, it is a great help to have American Home Shield. They are very handy when it comes to saving people money.

The techs from Whirlpool came our for my microwave that wasn't heating. They checked it and determined that they needed to replace the heating element in it. They came and brought everything out after they got the part in. They took every precautionary measure to make sure that everything was where it was supposed to be. They put it back to the area where it was to test it before they hooked it up completely. But they found out that it still wasn't heating so they took it down again. The wires were loose and they fixed it. It's been working good ever since. They were very professional and very nice. They went through everything they thought could be wrong with the microwave and if I had any questions, they were willing to answer any of them.

American Home Shield was put on the house when I bought it and I just renewed the policy. I’ve had some decent responses and some negative ones. I don't agree with the negative responses. But I have nothing that I can go back with on that. I had two things that happened in the house. I looked at it and it had to be covered. But AHS blew me off on it and told me it wasn't covered. I had to turn around and pull money out of my own pocket.
The guy from Mr. Rooter was great and was very informative. He turned around and he got in there. I called AHS because he said, “We're going to have to do this first. And if it works, then great. If not, you're going to have to call us back.” I returned the call but I have not gotten a call back from them yet. I was gonna give American Home Shield a call to find out what’s going on.
AHS has limited benefits so far. I've had to put out about $7,000 of my own money for things that should have been covered through the home warranty. I had issues submitting claims. Techs took pictures and sent them in. AHS said that the claim wasn't covered because it was not something that they covered. I never could understand it because they said it was one thing while the people that took the pictures and the people that work on the unit on a daily basis said it was another. I was told AHS was probably not going to cover the claim because they were going to think that it was something else.
There was a break in the canister of the swimming pool filter. I was told that was because of the filter being stopped up. The pool people said that the reason the pool filter was stopped up was because of the break in the side. There were bacteria that got in there. It got green and it tore up the filter. The pool people even said that they could write a letter saying that the pool filter broke because of that pole and not the other way around. But AHS said they were not covering it. That cost me right about $1,500 to $2,000.
Techs also came out and checked on the air conditioner while the air conditioner was broken. The air conditioner guy said they could go ahead and replace the condenser. If they do that, I was going to have to pay about $3,000. It was estimated to be 2,300 to 3,000 to put Freon back into the system. The guy said, “It’s not even gonna work because this thing is broken. We have to repair it because of their stipulations. But it’s still broken, it’s not gonna be repaired. But maybe in a month, you’ll have to call us back out.” They got me a few dollars off of a brand new system because of the warranty but I still had to pay almost $6,000 for that right there to be covered.
As I’m done with this year, I’m changing warranties unless AHS can turn around and say they made a mistake. I had AHS back in the 2000s and it was wonderful. Now, they have gone to where they don't cover anything. They're just like you driving into a shop for tires. They sit there and they say, “Here's something wrong with it and we're not covering it.” AHS needs to be a little bit more common sensed and a little less trying to dictate what they do and do not cover.

American Home Shield was offered with the sale of the home. I upgraded it because it didn't have everything included. I wanted everything included so it would give me that safeguard. If something goes wrong, I have someone to fall back on and ask for help 'cause I don't know who to trust these days. So, I like to go through a company that has already reviewed and vetted these technicians. So, they know that they're reputable and that they'll do a good job.
My air conditioning unit upstairs wasn't heating correctly. Usually, when you turn the heater on, you feel hot air. I wasn't feeling hot air. It was a very small and inferior unit. It heats one degree every 20 minutes. So, it's mainly to help with the cooling of the home because it's a two-story, but I have a heating system for the bottom. The service was good. The person that came out was very professional and informative and he answered all of my questions. So, I was happy with who they sent out. They came out the next day. So, it was really quick. He had a mask and everything and he stayed at a distance. He was very conscientious of everyone around him and took precautions.
Our solution here would have been that I would need to upgrade the system. Since the unit was just installed and under warranty, I opted to go back to the people that installed it to have them upgraded ‘cause I didn't wanna take a chance of any kind of warranty being voided. So, I had their rep come in and give me his expertise. If you call the company that has installed it, they want to add stuff and charge you. So, I had an unbiased opinion from the technician sent by American Home Shield and I paid $75 for it gladly. He was able to give me the right answers, so I know what avenue to take to remedy this. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the experience. It's important that people aren't afraid to use home warranties. A lot of people have them for security, but they don't use them when they need to. That's your tool to get results and to get an unbiased opinion on what is needed. So, it came in handy.

Our ice maker does not dispense ice and we've been calling on the same issue for three years now. There have been six different trips out here and it's still not fixed. Then we had another issue with our oven. We had carbon monoxide. All of our detectors went off. The guy was here for the icemaker and I thought he was here for the oven. But he said that he didn't do that. He then handed me a business card that he does air conditioning and heating on the side. He didn't even make sure that the icemaker was on, on the front panel. His partner had to tell him to put a different part in before he put an additional part 'cause they replaced the ice maker. So the memory board has been replaced. The ice maker has been replaced and it's making ice now, but it's still not coming through the dispenser.
When I tried to call the guy from Three Brothers back, he wouldn't answer the phone. The time he was supposed to come got pushed back another week. Then all of a sudden, it was two days earlier than what I was told that he was going to be here. Then he asked me about the oven. He said that he could repair ovens. But he didn't have a work order on the oven.
A different man from a different company came over and fixed the oven with no issues. We were very happy with that company. The problem was solved. That gentleman also said that he could also do refrigerators. So I told him that I was gonna request for him. But even though I went through the process of requesting this gentleman with another company, Home Shield never responded to me. They sent the same Three Brothers' guy out. I don't feel comfortable with him coming to my house and not knowing what he's doing. Three years is a long time to keep getting jacked around.
Three Brothers doesn't know what to do to fix my icemaker. When the same company's been out in three years’ time and still not fixed my refrigerator, I don't understand why I keep getting charged $75 every time and it's not fixed. When I requested to get the person that looked at the oven to come out here, there was no response. When I called the Three Brothers back, no response. The communication is horrible. Also, we pay $75 each time on top of what we're paying for American Home Shield. They just keep taking our money and we don't get anything resolved.

Letting AHS know that I was in need of a contractor was easy. I just went on their platform and did my request. Then, they sent me a text saying they received it. Then it says who they are sending and that the contractor would give me a call to let me know what day they’re coming. I told Price Right Plumbing that I wanted to run a snake through the main drain. They did what I asked them to do.
In the past, I asked for a contractor to come out and the techs didn't really do anything. I called AHS and told them that the techs were supposed to unstop the drain in my apartment. The guy who stays in that apartment said the techs told him that they were gonna give me a call. I asked what they did and he said that the techs just looked at the drain and left. Another time, I had a problem and called. AHS said they were going to send people back out to redo things. Somehow, I ended up getting the problem fixed before the techs came back out. Overall, I'm satisfied with Home Shield's service but not with some of the vendors they send.

The hot water heater wasn't working. It wasn’t heating the water. I went online and requested American Home Shield for someone to come out. Somebody came out within 48 hours. He came earlier than I thought he would, and he was very professional and in and out. It was a great experience. It would be good if there’s a way in which they can be more of a go-between than us reaching out. When you go online and you submit that there is a problem with your house, then they reach out to the company. There is some type of lag like when my air conditioner was broken. When I reached out to the company, they said they were notified.
Unless you call them, you're at the bottom of the list. It's almost as if they treat the warranty company as if it's a different type of money. Maybe with the direct out-of-pocket, you'll get a faster response. American Home Shield can maybe reach out and be more of a go-between to ensure that we're being scheduled as quickly as possible to eliminate us from having to take that extra step or that extra stress with waiting on hold for 20 or 30 minutes, and acting as if we're calling from the warranty company. I had one experience that was horrible. But otherwise, the new one restored my faith in American Home Shield.
On my end, it’s very important if we had a little more access for what is covered and maybe the upfront amount instead of waiting for it to go to authorization so you'll know what's expected when the techs come here. I do think that it’s important to maybe provide a little more education about the policy, or maybe it was on my part not doing my due diligence and seeing exactly what I signed up for, so that they had me skeptical about renewing my warranty with the company. Because I still had to come out of pocket. I'm paying 600 a year for the warranty and still had to come out with additional money. Each time, it’s $100 on top of whatever else you pay out-of-pocket.

We were accommodated with heat during that period, but the switch had to be replaced. American Home Shield had to order it from a supplier and they got it on a Tuesday then the tech came back the following Wednesday and did the permanent fix. He did an excellent job. Everything is perfect and we’re very satisfied. Our claim went very well. All in all, we're very happy with the work, and the speed in which the work was accomplished. When it was right around the time that COVID hit, we were having issues with the icemaker and our refrigerator, and it kept breaking. I kept having to pay the $75 for someone to come. American Home Shield finally authorized it being replaced. But it literally took months and months to get it resolved although I knew part of it was because of COVID. There were multiple times that I was on hold for more than two hours only to be disconnected at the very end. It was pretty bad and frustrating. I went on Facebook and I tried voicing my complaints there. Finally, somebody called me directly and she helped me get everything resolved.
Prior to that, I was at the point where I was ready to switch companies. I gave it one last go with our heater and it was super smooth, so we decided not to switch. The last service that we had with the air conditioning was fairly quick to schedule. They were here within a couple of days and it was resolved very quickly. I have recommended American Home Shield in the past and I would continue to do that.

They went over to American Home Shield but I still work with the people who are with HSA and I'm very pleased with them. It's very easy to get the claim started but I don't like that most of the time when the techs come, they respond differently when there's a home warranty. They'll come out and almost always say, "I got to call in and go away for a couple days." But I tell them, "Oh, no. We're not doing that. You fix the problem. You're not going and leave me for two days."

I would recommend American Home Shield. Every time we have a problem, we'd call or go online and set up an appointment for us. Everything is good. I like them. One time, there was water coming out from the bottom of the toilet in our master bedroom. The water in the shower would not go down as well, and everything came out black. The toilet in the guest restroom was also not flushing. The water would come up, and then it would stay there. The water in the shower was not going down either. I submitted a claim online and then I was notified who was coming and when. The repair guy came and fixed the problem. He was very attentive. He was good.
The only thing is I got a receipt that we pay to the insurance. In my receipt from American Home Shield, it says that nothing should be charged to the homeowner, but the repair guy said if he had to do something like get an access to fix the issue, I would have to pay $250 or $350. I put in the report with the insurance what all my problems were, so I was expecting for $75, he'd be taking care of everything, which he did. However, I wasn't expecting that I have to pay if something else happened. In the end, I found the access from the outside of the house that he could use, so nothing was charged, except the fee that American Home Shield has.

The original claim was put in for the refrigerators. The guy came out and he couldn't repair the refrigerator. I said, “You didn't repair it.” So, then I wouldn't sign the paper that had been repaired. Then he said, “If you won’t sign the papers, then I don't got time for you.” And he left. I called and told American Home Shield about his behavior and they said, “Okay, we're going to send someone else out.” They sent someone else out but that person never showed up. Then, they sent another person out. This guy showed up and told me he repaired the refrigerator and stove. The stove was very important because what happened was right before Christmas Eve, it kept switching to cleaning mode, which would set the house near on fire. It gets extremely hot. The day before Christmas Eve, he told me he had fixed it and the refrigerator when they came out. It burned up the Christmas food - the turkey, potatoes, and everything that we had in the oven.
It smoked up the house because it switched from the 350 degrees back to cleaning mode. It kept doing it. So, it's very dangerous. You can’t cook in it at all. And whatever he did to the refrigerator, the freezer side would stand a little cold, like a refrigerator. The refrigerator wasn't working at all. Whatever he did, he made that part stop working, so all the food that was is in there was spoiled. And now, when you open the door, it smells horrible.
I've been asking to speak to a manager since December 11 but nobody would let me speak to a manager. And here comes New Year's, and I just had a very horrible experience with this company. I kept telling them that I don't think the people they send out know what they are doing. And they sent the people out three times now, and they failed. I texted the guy who came out because he gave me his phone number. I told him that I hope he has a horrible Christmas like he caused for me because all this Christmas food was burned up because he told me they fixed the stove, but they didn't. I also told him that I would sue him personally and the company if my house catches on fire. I guess he went back and told this little company. They said they will not come out anymore because of the text message I sent him. I was like, “Well, good.” Because I didn't want them to come back out because they didn't know what they were doing.
I called back to AHS and the rep tried to send the same company back out. And that company said, “No, we won't go back out to her house.” I was like, “Great.” Then, he had to give me another one. But I shouldn't have to do all that. And why does all the customer service sound like they are overseas? Half the time, I couldn't even understand what they were saying. I hope that AHS makes some changes here.

Recently, A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out because the central heat air unit had to be cleaned. They removed and cleaned the coil and recharged the system. So far, so good. The only problem is I’d set a temperature to hold at a temperature and it goes all over the place. I'll set it at 72 degrees. It’s supposed to kick on when it gets below that and keep it at 72 degrees. It'll kick on and but it'll go as high as 77 degrees before it cuts off. You pay $75 and they pick the worst companies because they're cheaper for them. We called regarding our furnace and the girl on the other end wanted to send a plumber (?), after explaining that plumbers don't fix furnaces that we need an HVAC man, she picked a guy and as we looked his reviews they were nothing but complaints and 1 stars due to his service for them.
Customers explained that they saw him actually break pieces so he could replace them. Needless to say we will not be renewing our Home Warranty, it's not worth the money. The money that's wasted on that could be used on a reputable company that would actually fix your home for you. I wish the BBB would get involved and actually take a closer look at American Home Shield, they're pathetic.

Contract #** We had our water heater replaced in 2015. In 2019 it leaked and the same contractor added an expansion tank. In 2020 it leaked again and the same contractor says the expansion tank is insufficient. AHS will not cover the repairs or damage caused by the leak. In addition, when I asked to cancel our service, AHS said I would be charged a $68.30 administrative fee for canceling. This is a terrible company. They find every way to not cover repairs. They give themselves the latitude to raise your rates in the middle of a contract. They are rude and terrible to work with.
Paul,
Thanks for providing your feedback. I hate that you were not satisfied with your experience. I will reach out to you via email to offer further assistance.

The freezer was not cooling at all and the refrigerator was not at the proper temperature. The tech from the last company who came was very nice and he told me when he was coming out. He said the same thing the other people said, that the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced as well as the seal. It was $1,400 worth of parts. He would send that off to American Home Shield and let them decide. I was disgusted with the overall experience with AHS. It took four people to come out before they acted on the claim. It’s not resolved yet and so, I haven’t had a refrigerator for six weeks. When the second person came out and said the same thing as the first, AHS should have taken action to replace the refrigerator, if that's what the diagnosis was, that it was too costly to repair it. I have had American Home Shield for almost 15 years at this residence. I was paying them $600 a year for the last 10 years to be treated like this.
Hi Mike,
I hate to hear about your experience with AHS to have the freezer repaired. I would be glad to speak with and assist with a resolution.

There was a major clog in my main line, so Hometown Plumbing came out and diagnosed that that was indeed the issue. They went to like the cleanout port and went as far as they could, and they ran a line like 100 feet, and they didn't solve any other problem. They said, "Well, it's probably so far. It's with the city. The city needs to come out and do their end." The city came out and there was nothing wrong on the city side. Then, that was it. They said, "Well, you're gonna need to call a bigger company." But this is as much as the home warranty covers. So when we called a bigger company and they came out, they told us that we needed to call an even bigger company because they couldn't run it upline or get high enough psi on their hydro jet. So then, we had to call a third company to come out, and finally, they were able to solve the issue with the main line.
The warranty didn't cover any of it because they only cover up to 100 feet of like main line cleanout, and it has to be with a cable. It was at like 108 feet and it was at the hydro jet versus the cabling. They fixed our dishwasher issue though. It was spraying water everywhere. Whoever installed it installed an air gap, and there wasn't one that needed to be installed. So, they did fix that problem, which is nice.
Submitting the claim was kind of confusing at first because they wouldn't let me select multiple issues all at once. But then, the lady that I called explained that you can select multiple things within a certain type of problem. So if it's all plumbing-related things, you can select multiple plumbing-related things. You can't select like a plumbing and electrical. It has to be specific problems. They were able to fix the sink, like the plumbing that went under the sink that was leaking, and they were able to try and fix the main line and the bathroom, like the clog that was happening. They were able to check out all the water-related objects in the house. But if they would have been able to do an electrical, that would have been a separate fee.

The washer was leaking and the dryer was burning. It was singeing clothing. The guy from Where Appliance Service Plus who serviced the request was great. American Home Shield seems to be pretty decent.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

The most recent claim with American Home Shield was for the refrigerator. The contractor came to the house and told us what the problem was, and corrected it. It has been a good experience with AHS.

We recently had a claim on the microwave and it was a sensor thing or some electronic panel. I called American Home Shield and on the same day, Integrity Appliance Repair called me. They were out the next day and fixed it right away. Then they had to get one other part for the light and the guy was back the next day to fix that. It was really quick. He was very professional. This was the first time I've used American Home Shield. I need to give them a call because I had to have my doors rekeyed and then when I was looking at the contract, I saw that they actually would have paid for that. I need to see if I could give them the receipt and if I could be reimbursed. Overall, they're the home warranty program I would recommend. The service was good.

We had a delay for parts but that wasn't the plumber's fault. They analyzed it. It needed a pump and that didn't fix it. They needed a circuit breaker board and that fixed it, and we're back in business. They were professional, courteous and knowledgeable.

I had a friend that referred me to an insurance agent and he's the one that said American Home Shield is the one he used. I went with them and when I had someone come out to check to see how things were with my unit, it was very good. The guy was very professional and presented himself very well. He was very thorough as well. I would highly recommend them as a contractor to work with. I'm an ex-mechanical contractor and I'm very familiar with the heat pump system, except I don't have tools to work on.
Hi Charles,
I am pleased to hear about the excellent service you have received. I hope you continue to enjoy!

I had a recent repair service through American Home Shield for the washing machine and it went really well. They were awesome. A tech came out, checked the washing machine, ordered the part, and then fixed it. It was done really quickly. The tech was absolutely wonderful. He was very helpful and explained everything. He explained everything. He was efficient, he said there might be two problems, but then he said, "No, it's just this one." He explained why it was just the one. He was very thorough. Also, my water heater exploded. AHS wound up having to replace it. We had the work done on the house by a friend of ours, and then they replaced the water heater and the parts that go along with it. We were without it for a little bit, but that's normal.
I was with another company and it took them forever to do the services and they only covered certain things and it was a certain percentage. American Home Shield is very thorough. They help right away, they get people out to us right away and they cover a lot of stuff that other people don't cover. They have a bigger gap for it. They are a better company.

It was great with Blue Ridge Mountain Plumbing. The heat pump was making noise and unfortunately, we couldn't get it to redo it while the guy was here. But one of the panels on the back of the heat pump was a little loose so he secured that. He said to keep an eye on it. If it continues, he'd come back. He was a professional and a very nice person. He was prompt and did a nice job. He wasn't in a hurry to get things done. He talked to us and explained things. The problem is I have an outside wood furnace and that provides the heat for the house. That goes through the heat pump system but the heat pumps don't go on. Unless the temperature drops in the outside furnace, the heat pump won't go on. We have to wait till it goes down and see if it goes on.
Len,
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.
