The techs who came out for the fridge identified the problem right away. They had to order the parts and they said it might be a week or two, and it came in the next day. Then they came back and replaced it. They were here for about an hour. I put a thermometer inside the fridge to watch it and it's been holding steady. We had American Home Shield when we were living in Arizona and we liked it. Then when we moved here to Virginia, we tried a different company but I didn't care for them. So I came back to American Home Shield. I would recommend them over any other ones so far.

My ice maker was not pushing ice out and it wasn’t cold enough. A service was scheduled. There was a range of time and the repair guy got there within that range. He did all kinds of tests to see if the ice maker was cooling to the temperature it needed to in order to produce ice. That was when he determined that there was either a leak in the system or there may be a problem with the compressor. He had to charge the system with Freon or whatever material he used. If the ice maker goes back to not pushing ice out again, we would probably have another problem.
With this particular claim, I made a phone call to American Home Shield. I initially tried doing the claim online but I wasn't successful with it. There was a user error or something to do with the system. I’m getting ready to do the process again because I have another problem in the garage, which I had serviced about a year ago. It started acting up about a month after I had it fixed. But since it's in the garage, I haven't really paid much attention to it.

The dryer would turn on but it wouldn't work. When I called in, the contractor tried to contact me the same day. A guy came out and repaired the dryer the same day. He showed me the part that was bad on it. The dryer is working fine now. Everything was handled really quickly so I was pleased with that.

I highly recommend this company for what we pay a month and paying the deductible we don't have to worry about things not getting fixed. They are reliable and efficient and are on top of the service, we had to use them 3 times so far and it was all good. Easy and not complicated, they email you with the company who's going to be calling to fix what ever it is that need fixed and the service is fast and friendly.

We had a hot water heater that stopped working, and going online and filing the claim with American Home Shield was easy and fast. They got back with me right away. Stuff always breaks when you don't want it to. So with the hot water heater breaking right around New Year's, I expected Monday to be the earliest that we would get a technician out and that was exactly what happened. So, everything was exactly as expected. Kintex was a little late getting out but that happens. The tech was able to fix the problem while he was here. He didn't leave a mess and he answered some questions that we had on it. So all in all, it was a good experience.

So far, everything has been good with AHS's claim process. I also have one pending claim for electricity and the tech said he had to submit the report to Home Shield and see if they're gonna cover it.

The most recent claim I had with American Home Shield was a replacement on a bad hot water heater. The process was pretty easy and the experience went pretty smoothly. I was home for the appointment that the guy set up, and he came in here and replaced the heater. He was very professional and did a good job. I'd recommend American Home Shield.

The claim was to resolve a furnace issue. And Dynasty Air came and they sent three different technicians to look at it. At the end of it all, they said that American Home Shield was not going to cover anything and that I should just buy a $13,000 system from them that was going to be adequate for the house. So, I elected to not go with them. And since I couldn't utilize another provider through AHS, I requested that I be reimbursed the money that it would cost me to get a trustworthy vendor out to fix my furnace. I wanted to use RJ Mechanical and they said that Air Dynasty would be the only vendor that I could use. I didn't feel comfortable using Air dynasty because it felt like they just wanted to try and upsell me and get a whole new system. I was very unhappy with how that proceeded.
I called AHS and I was like, "Hey, I don't understand why they're telling me that basically American Home Shield's not gonna do anything for me and wanted me to spend $13,000 out of my own money." And then he said, "Well, you can submit a monetary claim if you're going to have it fixed on your own." So I was like, "Okay, well, that's what I want to do because I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere with Air Dynasty and I'm not gonna feel comfortable with their work.
I've been waiting for AHS to call me back to try and help me out to fix this, but it has been cold where I'm living right now. I have the furnace guy coming to install it tomorrow. I'm paying for it out of my own pocket hoping that AHS will reimburse me some of it. I would like to see more flexibility and more follow-up. The policy is paid for. The fact that AHS' guys are trying to cheat me out of money is not a good feeling. I'm far from recommending AHS than anybody else this point in time.

When submitting a claim to American Home Shield, I sometimes get the runaround. The plumbing messed up and I called them, it might be a woman or a man who answered the phone. They sent a report and then, they said that I would probably get emailed. I was waiting and waiting but there was nothing. I called them and said that I called about plumbing and I didn’t get any email. Then I talked to somebody else. The guy that did my plumbing that Sunday after New Year was professional. He was on time and got the job done. I was pleased. But I had a rough time when my water heater went out. The guy called and let me know that he was gonna be in my house from 8:00 to noon. Then, 8 o’clock passed, then it got close to 10:00. I called his phone and he sent me a text, saying he’s in the middle of getting his house fixed up in the attic.
My water heater started leaking out slowly but surely on Christmas morning and I started calling American Home Shield by 3 o’clock Friday morning. The man said he was gonna come out and look at it. When the man came over on Saturday, the way he talked, it was like he was gonna fix it. Then he said that I gotta pay $525 either by credit card or a debit card. He took $125 out of my checking account that day. But he didn't fix my water heater until that Monday after Christmas. I had brothers from Texas and I had to boil water on a big old pot on the the stove so they could take a bath. Plus, I had a newborn baby. It was terrible. I figured that if get AHS, they would take care of your water heater. Also, when I asked for a supervisor, they got excuses. They don’t want me to talk to a supervisor. I called the second time. They said the guy was coming out to pick my water heater up. They didn't show up and I had to call them again.

That gentleman who helped us with the dishwasher is top-notch every time. He came out twice and he was extremely helpful and informational. This dishwasher was probably made in the 40s and I didn't know how to set the dishwasher up right. So when he came, he talked to me about the dishwasher. He told me that it had a loud engine so a lot of people wouldn't like that now. He also said that it would work perfectly fine but it'd just be loud. He fixed that and then the belt tore so he came back out. He was gonna have to get the belt shipped from Columbus. That took about two days and then he came out and finished the job. He's a really good guy and I'm really happy with the service.
I've had American Home Shield since August and these are the only two claims that we've made and we've liked it. Every time we've had an issue, we've gotten it solved very quickly. This time, we even told them that we wanted the same gentleman that we had. So, we had to wait for another week, which was perfectly fine because we liked working with him. So American Home Shield is very easy to work with.

The heater wasn’t working. The contractor came, and they fixed some parts and some things. They did some replacements. At the end, they said, “Oh, no, It doesn’t work. It needs to be replaced all the way.” It was just kind of weird that they were going back and forth. The whole deal from day one until they said, “We have to replace it completely” took two weeks. “Oh, we're missing this. We're missing that.” That was kind of odd for me. But other than that, they did a great job. American Home Shield does instant response. Once I called and made a claim, it was right away. They took care of everything. I would recommend them. It's really worth it.

Having American Home Shield is convenient and they are quick to respond. They sent out AA Plumbing for a claim I made and it was the second time I had them. I like those guys. They showed up early, which was good, and they got the problem fixed. The only complaint I had was the follow-up. That was really not that great. I got a message saying the job was done and I didn't know what that meant because they said they were going to come back. I ended up having to call them to ask what they decided was wrong. Before they could even really do anything, they had to get water out from under the house then they were gonna come back. But they didn't. There was nothing they could do. That issue aside, the plumbing is good now. I had a company come and fill a hole that was cut from a leak that had been fixed. They had to cut a part out from under the sink.

I had an experience with American Home Shield where a service company came to examine a problem with our washing machine, and they decided that because they had never seen the issue before, it was not going to be covered. I thought that just doesn't make any sense. I was very disappointed. This most recent visit was stellar. I was able to make the service request online. Email and text messages were immediate to say somebody is going to come. They asked for windows of opportunity and suggested times. We weren't in a rush. So, we set it up for the Monday after the New Year's. The tech came. He was very professional and courteous, and fixed our problem. The refrigerator stopped dispensing water. There were bottles all over the place. There was no added cost. It was all covered.
American Home Shield is probably a racket. My Realtor who had American Home Shield gave us a flyer on it and suggested it. I almost want to say I'm doing well enough, financially, that I can take the risk of a big-ticket item without having to pay American Home Shield every month for what the plan is, especially when they come and won't cover probably a couple different items. The light broke on our microwave, and they told us they couldn't repair that. I was like, “Well, if you can't repair it, who can?”
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

We filed a claim back in October because our heating unit had gone bad. Right away, American Home Shield sent out Formula Air to check everything and they determined at the time that they came that our whole unit was bad. We had a combination heating and air unit and it needed to be replaced. I got contacted by American Home Shield not long after saying that they wanted to get a second opinion because of the cost being so high to replace the unit. I was fine with that.
Another company came out a week later and did their review. Again, they said that the unit needed to be replaced. The company said they wouldn't be the one replacing the unit. They would just be the one giving the second opinion and letting the American Home Shield know that the unit needed to be replaced. We kept reaching out to American Home Shield. I called them probably 15 times and all they kept saying our claim was under review. Customer service wouldn't give me any information and they wouldn't let me talk to a supervisor. They kept saying that someone would call me back but no one did. The upfront customer service people on the phones need more training. They don't know how to handle problem situations and they don't know how to escalate problems quickly enough to the right people.
Formula Air kept reaching out to American Home Shield saying, "Look, just let us know what we need to do. What's the cost? We'll work with y'all." But American Home Shield wouldn't budge and wouldn't work with them. American Home Shield kept saying that the other company would be the one to replace the unit but the other company called them back and saying they couldn't as their guy was out sick until January. It was a big runaround with American Shield from the very beginning. There were a lot of problems.
I have an elderly mother that was living in the home at the time and it was getting cold. She got sick. I searched for information on the American Home Shield company to try to get in touch with someone higher up because I couldn't get in touch with anybody. Finally, I got the right person and they got ahold of a supervisor who then got me ahold of another lady in a different department that ended up taking care of the issue from then on.
The situation turned out okay in the end, but we had to go through a lot to get to the end. A girl named Jerilynn got involved and after that, things went smoothly. Jerilyn and the her department, the executive relations department, were fabulous and had excellent customer service. She contacted Formula Air and they got everything straightened out. They had to order a part and that was another delay. In the meantime, it had gotten really cold while we were waiting. Jerilyn was able to supply us with a portable heater and electric blanket for my mother. We were happy with how things turned out.
Once the part and the unit came in, Formula Air came out and did a fabulous job. We will use them going forward for our maintenance. They were an amazing company and American Home Shgield needs to be proud to have them as one of their vendors. They need to treat Formula Air a little bit better because they didn't give them the respect that they should have gotten from the very first.

The day before Christmas, we noticed that my whole closet was soaking wet. My shower is right next to it. There was a leak somewhere. I went through the American Home Shield. I had used Kenbridge before so I was excited to use them again. They came out and assessed. They looked at several different things and ran some tests. Then they figured out where it was leaking and it literally took them five minutes to fix. But it was something that I would never think of. He also got me a contact for water damage replacement team that could come in here and dry out the flooring and get the bathroom replaced for me for whatever damage that had been done.
The claims submission with American Home Shield is easy. Whenever you're going through and submitting a claim there's a list of possible problems that you're having or whatever claim you're trying to submit there. But they should leave an open option so you could explain your problem in your words. There wasn't an option on there for a leaking shower when I submitted the claim so I just picked one from the list of possible problems. I couldn't say that the problem was a leaking pipe 'cause I didn't know if the pipes were leaking. It was also the same thing when I filed a claim for my sink where there was a leak underneath it. As an estimated guess, I clicked on leaking pipes. But they are gonna ask you and double-check everything anyway.
Thanks for sharing your experience. We appreciate it.

American Home Shield first set up one contractor who was supposed to come on a certain day. They never came at all and never called me. AHS called them and they said that they were going to call me right away but I never received a call. I called AHS back and they sent a different company out. I thought the plumber had done what he was supposed to do until I saw water on my floor. He came back out again and didn’t fix the issue. He also left my toilet about an inch off the ground. Another plumber was sent out and he said he fixed it. But again, the toilet was left way off the ground and was leaking.
The contractor came back another time and told me that they would go and exchange the toilet they had put in because maybe it came in cracked. But if that was the case, they would charge me again because I bought the toilet. But the whole problem with the toilet was that the original guy who came out left the flange part too high up. He didn't bolt it down and he put rings of wax that were too thick, which was why the toilet was sitting so high.
None of the contractors that came out fixed my toilet. I paid the guy that American Home Shield sent out to fix my ceiling because that's what they had covered. I paid him out-of-pocket because he was also a plumber and he fixed the flange that the guy messed up. He leveled them out, put another wax ring in and put the toilet down because the old guys didn't even cut the screws. He cut the screws, he resealed the toilet around and my toilet’s perfectly fine now. American Home Shield should vet their contractors better. There were two separate plumbers who came out and the second guy was telling me how he has been fixing issues that the first plumber had caused. The company keeps a guy on that they have to keep fixing stuff after. AHS should check on their contractors and see what they're doing because it was almost a week and a half of me dealing with it.

I've been with American Home Shield for so many years and I was not always happy. I’ve had some companies that just were not good. Sometimes I’ve not gotten good service on the plumbing side. They also had somebody come out for my air conditioner and the guy didn't do the job right. So, I had to hire another company on my own to come and look at the work they did. Sure enough, my air conditioner was in worse condition before they came out so the owner of the company came out and fixed it. I was just so upset with the last company that AHS sent that I told them that I got to cool down before I even circle back with them. I was in a process of looking for another company and then it got busy, and then after that, COVID hit.

It is extremely hard to get through to process a new claim to American Home Shield if you do it by phone. You can be on hold for a very long time. I called before and they came on and said they would return my call, and they never did. But if I do the claim online, it's totally different. Our clothes washer was not coming on but a light was remaining inside the washbasin. Sears came out and the young tech who looked at it was very professional. He was on time and explained everything. It was easy to understand and he did his job very quickly. He said the parts that were needed to repair the washer were no longer available because the washer was 10 years old and that there was nothing that he could do. He would recommend that they replace the washer. We had claims with American Home Shield for the AC twice. One AC wasn’t working and the next year, the other AC wasn’t working too. A couple of times, we had to come out of pocket because even though I'm paying more for extra, there's a base price and another price for upgrades to cover other stuff that's usually not covered such as the screws. The compressors weren’t covered, so we had to come out of pocket to fix the AC unit but we didn’t come out of pocket this time for the washing machine. So that was okay. We also did the garage door once and the dryer one time. Almost every time we use AHS, we’re always coming out of pocket. So, we were thinking about canceling it. But it’s worth getting it because if you get an old house that you don't know what's going on with it and you don't have any kind of insurance, it helps.

I had neglected to ask if there was a specific timeframe that he would come on Tuesday, so I called him on Tuesday morning to see if he could he give me a timeframe, so that I could plan my day. When he picked up the phone, he said he was 30 minutes away from now and that he could come at that time. So, it ended up working out and he showed up right when he said he would.
He was able to get the repair done, too. I'm working from home right now due to the pandemic situation and my husband happened to be home, so I asked my husband to go down and communicate the rest of the job with him. But I could hear the conversation and I could hear him telling my husband about what the issue was. About 40 minutes later, I realized he was gone. I asked my husband what happened because typically, the techs would say they need a part, etcetera. But my husband said that the guy fixed the problem. He was able to go to his truck and get whatever was needed.
We also that another claim with AHS that wasn't so great that we ended up not wanting to even use that particular vendor. It was for our HVAC unit, which was our external air unit. We did one of the cash out options and getting our own service just because we were not pleased with the vendor that was sent. Other than that, I have recommended American Home Shield to a friend who said he had done research and that he heard a lot of complaints about AHS. But I told him that everybody's going to have something to complain about something. We buy a car, we complain about it. We purchase a house, we complain. I can complain about the particular vendor that was sent but I don't directly blame that on American Home Shield. The vendor needs to do some assessment internally and fix whatever they got going on.
So, people don't recognize that they need to relate more of what their experiences is and who really is the guilty party since they're accusing the bad service of that service. Is it truly American Home Shield or is it the vendor that you've been dealing with? But what people didn’t say is, American Home Shield needs to do more investigating or do a survey on vendors, and try to identify who are truly the reputable ones that could represent them as a company. And sometimes, you have to do that on a more regular basis and weed out the ones that are giving them a bad reputation. So, I just painted the picture that way to my friend. told him. But for the many years that I've had American Home Shield and for me to have one major complaint, that's not too bad.

Our fridge wasn't working and we had been dealing with it for a long time. It would work for a couple of hours and then it would turn off all night. It would refreeze everything when it would work for just three hours and then defrost things again for 16 hours. Those intervals were getting longer and longer. We had several repair people come out from other companies through American Home Shield and this time, we opted to go with GE. The gentleman was quickly able to diagnose the issue. 24 hours after he left, the refrigerator started working. I was very thankful that he understood what was going on.
I've always really enjoyed the customer service from American Home Shield. The reps answer the phone and address my concern. I get to a live person quickly. I get somebody from overseas but they are very caring and they work to resolve my issue. I get a choice to a certain degree what company can come out and service my issue. I was approved for my fridge’s replacement and we're working on getting reimbursed. But if past precedent continues, everything should be great.
We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us and please don't hesitate to reach out if you need us in the future. Enjoy your day.

Having coverage is very convenient. It’s worth the money because repairs are expensive. Every time I thought about getting rid of AHS, I thought about the benefits of it. Appliance Express handled my recent claim really good. The customer service is great. My thermometer was what went out on the refrigerator. At first, the guy couldn't figure it out but he did everything he could he was still at the house. He had all the parts on hand and he got my refrigerator running. The only thing that I was concerned about was it took four days. I lost all my food. I equate that due to covid but a quicker response would have been good.

The ice maker and cold water dispenser of my refrigerator stopped delivering ice and water. Ericksen the tech called me and did a virtual meeting. He did a camera thing inside my refrigerator on the model number. He asked me about all the symptoms that were happening. He wanted to order a certain part and have it available for when he came out. He said the contractor would call me when the part came in. About a week later, they called me and made an appointment. Ericksen came promptly and he was able to fix the issue quickly. It didn't really require the part that he had ordered. I'm very satisfied and I'm glad I have American Home Shield.

My first claim with American Home Shield took them forever. My hot water heater was leaking and the techs told me they needed to move the gas line. They needed to do A, B and C. I wasn't informed that there was going to be an out of pocket cost of $1,000 until I called AHS. All the techs said was that it was the seals. So, that was a headache. I didn't get my hot water heater fixed over the weekend. I wound up calling another company and having to pay out of pocket for it. Then by time I got in contact with AHS, they said they could send me the amount that they thought it would cost to fix it and I had to pay the rest. It cost me almost three grand. The second claim was good though. The tech was in and out. He fixed the problem and he was very timely and efficient.

Horrible customer service. I had to constantly contact them for a plumbing issue that lasted from 11/29/20 until 01/06/21, and in the end they completely denied the claim! And this is after they charged my CC a second time for the same service call. I have filed a complaint with BBB and filed a CC dispute with my credit card company for that second service charge. Then I went to try to cancel the service and they hung up on me! Again! If you need to call for service, you will be talking to someone in a foreign country reading from a script who absolutely can't help you. Good luck.

Finding out that our plumbing system was not working on January 1st was not the way how we wanted to start the year. The sink was making sounds as if something was wobbling in there. Then at some point, in the downstairs bathroom, the black waters were coming back through the toilet and then the bathtub. We suspended all water supply from all the bathrooms upstairs and stopped using everything that required water to go down. But American Home Shield made it very easy for us. They sent a plumber out.
The plumber said that there was something stuck somewhere and that he couldn't reach it with the original equipment that he had. Some other technicians came in with some type of video system that would go through the plumbing system. They found whatever it was that was creating a blockage in the pipeline and they were able to release it. They also had to release the air of some of the plumbing areas outside of the house. At that point, the situation got fixed. Everything is working well. The techs were very professional, very friendly, and very good at explaining what was taking place. For them to be able to bring it down to the level of someone who doesn’t know plumbing, that’s good. We just started with American Home Shield and we never had problems before. Knowing that we have peace of mind with them has been particularly great.

I had my hot water heater go out. I first called American Home Shield on the 21st. On the 26th, day after Christmas, a plumber came out. He drained the unit and kind of flushed it. He changed a hose on the top. There are two elements in the hot water heater. He changed one of them then said it was an electrical problem. I had to go get an electrical contractor out here.
American Home Shield send somebody out several days later. The electrician came out and said there was nothing wrong. The hot water heater had plenty of juice and everything was okay. But I was still without hot water so I wondered what was going on. I called the plumbing company that American Home Shield sent out and they blew me off. They told me that they had people ahead of me. If I was the type of person to sue, I would. This was so frustrating.
The plumbing company said they would come out and replace the hot water heater. But there were code violations. I just bought the house two years ago and it was inspected. I was not told anything about any code violations. The plumbing company said a new hot water heater and labor would be paid for but I would have to do a line modification, ground and bonding, canopy line, and something about a draining pan. It was going to be $539 out of pocket.
In the meantime, I was talking with some friends. They suggested to call Sun City Plumbing and look for a guy named Chris. Chris came out and he looked at my hot water heater. He said to call the manufacturer of the water heater because it was still under warranty. It was only from 2017. I tried getting through to the manufacturer but couldn't. I let Chris know and asked how much the element and the thermostat would be. The next day, he said it was going to be $230. I told him to have it done because I was tired. I went for 17 days with no hot water.
One element of my hot water heater was brand new that the initial plumber put in. The second element was so corroded. I am finding fault with the initial plumber. He didn't do his job correctly. Also, the plumber could have taken care of the problem the day after Christmas. My experience was horrendous. But Sun City Plumbing came out and I finally have hot water. I will be dropping American Home Shield as soon as I get whatever cashout they're going to give me for this claim. I did not sign up for a hassle and I was very dissatisfied.

Once again through their approved vendor, who would only suggest a repair on the same compressor, (over $1000) wouldn’t allow for a new unit (mine is 14 years old) so even though AC covered on plan I had to pay out of pocket ($7400) and AHS reimbursed us $800 +. The repair would have also cost me an additional $661 for uncovered expenses. Summary: Takes too long for repairs to be done, their vendors are hours away from my location, wasn’t allowed a buyout on AC.

The initial issue was that certain appliances and lights in the house were not working. The TV wouldn't turn on and the other TV quit working. I thought I was having an issue with the fuse box and the electric panel so I called American Home Shield. They gave me and a day and a window of time as to when the tech would come out.
The tech did good service. He was very competent and knowledgeable. He figured out the situation that I was having pretty quickly. He determined that the problem wasn't with my house. The house wasn't getting proper power from the street. He checked all of the circuit breakers and it turns out that there are two power sources. When the power is coming into the main power panel, there are two hot wires that come in at the same time and one of them wasn't working. The house was only getting half the amount of electricity it was supposed to. I don't know how all that works but he explained the problem. There wasn't any issue with my fuse panel or any of my circuit breakers. He left and I thought I was gonna have to call the electric company or somebody else to come out and figure out why my house wasn't getting the power it was supposed to. But 10 minutes after he left, my power came back on properly so I didn't have to do anything.
American Home Shield gives you a good degree of confidence that if you have any unforeseen issues, you have somebody to come back and help address them. You're not having to call random people and try to get different quotes to do a repair. These people are preselected by American Home Shield and they live in the area. They are reliable and have a reason to be reliable because they want to stay on American Home Shield registry.

A tech came out for a claim and handled the problem well considering that we didn't know what the problem was initially. We had a waste drain stoppage. The tech was very professional and honest about the results. Unfortunately, what he said came true. A week later, we had the problem back. Although the tech could not determine what the problem was and there were limits to the contract, he did all he could inside that was covered. He cleared the problem the best he could. It turned out that the problem was outside the foundation so that was not covered. But I had the work done and I'm satisfied with it. We've only been here in Georgia for a little bit over a year and we do not have our own little network of people. Having any kind of help with the problem through warranty was especially good for us in that regard because at least we knew somebody to call.
I was looking at the other warranty companies like Amazon. There was not a big difference. Some of the things that really cost a consumer a lot aren't necessarily covered. It's an industry-wide thing. Home warranties should at least offer some coverage for it even if it is as a rider so we could make up our minds. Some people would choose to do that than not be covered at all.

My second call was for the garage door opener which was doing some funky things. We'd go away and it’s open, come back and it’s open, or it’ll come down halfway then back up. I called Home Shield and they sent the garage door company out. The tech called a couple of hours and said he couldn't make it out that day or that week but would be there first thing Monday. When I call American Home Shield up when I need service, I get a thing that says, “Your contract is expired.” Then, when they transfer me to the Philippines, they tell me everything's okay. But why’d they tell me it was expired in the first place? I'm not really happy about that. It was the second time I had that happen. I called up once. Somebody there said they’d take care of it. I told them I'm paying a lot of money for this. They said the first three months, they had lowered the rate. I don't see the rate being lowered.
I also have a claim that's still open. When the tech came out, the heater started right up. It was really weird. I didn't have heat for two days. The thing's buzzing. When he came out, I flipped the switch because I turned off the furnace and it started right up and it worked fine. So, he said there was nothing he can do if it's working fine. I said, “Well, can’t you see why it wasn't working fine?" He said, “No we don't do that. We can't replace a motor or something because when we come out and observe it, it's working fine.” Hopefully, it'll keep working fine when it gets to be two below. American Home Shield did fine. Rush Heating and Cooling did fine, too. It's just that American Home Shield hasn’t given me what they said they were gonna give me and they have not straightened out their phone problem.

They replaced one of the boards and it's still freezing up. They came on Christmas Eve and I don't know what they did but the guy said that he would get me back on the schedule. I called them a few days ago and the lady said she'd call me back but I haven't heard from her.
Right now, I'm running with no heat. I've got a couple of electric heaters and it's running my light bill up real bad. I had a claim back in June of 2020. I called because the same unit wasn't working properly. They sent a different company at first to fix that part. When it turned cold weather and I had to turn it to heat, it started messing up again and that was when they sent Lynnco Home Repairs. They've been nice and professional. They came when they said they would but they just can't seem to figure out what's wrong with it. American Home Shield has not done anything to fix it. It's not the people that's coming to fix it. They can only do what American Home Shield tells them to do but American Home Shield wouldn't resolve it by replacing it if it can't be fixed.

A spring in our garage broke on Christmas Day. On Saturday and Sunday, my car was stuck in my garage and I happened to have to work on those days. I called American Home Shield and the communication was sketchy. Customer service was polite but they kept telling me to call back the next day. I told them that I had been without my vehicle for two days. I had to work again. The issue was American Home Shield had a company on contract that was only open Monday through Friday. I called on Monday and they said technicians couldn't get out here. Why then couldn't I look for a company that was open seven days a week? Customer service said they understood my concern but to call them the next day. That didn’t address the question.
American Home Shield contacted me on Sunday through email and said they got ahold of the company and someone would be out on Monday. There was some reassurance that they would be out first thing Monday. But the technician was out Monday afternoon. That's fine. At least someone came out on Monday, took care of the issue, and everything was covered. I was happy that the job was done the first day it was available but I was saddened that the service company was not open seven days a week.
With this claim, I started looking for parts myself. I could have bought the bars and the springs for less than the amount that I paid for the deductible. I could have done the repair myself. But the technician had more knowledge than me on garage doors and he did tighten up the chain on the motor. He mentioned that the motor was probably going to go and ordered wheels because he said American Home Shield sometimes won't cover the wheels. They won't cover the motor repair if you don't replace the wheels. I ordered wheels and bars. I didn't order springs because they were just done.
The was also an instance in the summertime when we had some AC issues. It was a Friday and the temperature was 110 upstairs. American Home Shield dispatched a company out here but I was told that the company was only open five days a week. I asked if they would be able to come out on Saturday or if we were going to be without our AC the whole weekend. Luckily, American Home Shield reached out to the service company and their technicians came out. They took care of the AC problem at that time.
But I'm at their mercy and that has been a concern of mine. If I were to look for a company myself, I would definitely look for a company that's open seven days a week and handles emergencies. I had other home warranties before and they flat out said they weren't going to cover things and they were canceled. I've had American Home Shield before in a previous home and they did all right there. When it comes to air conditioning, American Home Shield gets it fixed but there's no help to replace the unit. We replaced our upstairs unit because we were tired of it going out every summer. There was no help there as far as any rebates too. I was about to cancel American Home Shield but we decided to hold off. Luckily, we did. At this point, I don't know if I'm going to keep the American Home Shield, but I would recommend them for older homes.
Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

My furnace was making a bunch of noise and it wasn't working properly. It would come on and it would run and run to warm up the house because it wasn't getting enough airflow through it since the fan was bad. The claim submission for it was quick and easy. The contractor was very helpful and extremely professional. I had to make a late appointment from when I get off work and the contractor worked on my schedule, which was great. But they had to order some parts because the warehouse was not open by the time they got to me. It took about a week to get the parts in. But the furnace is quiet and it's working a lot better now.

When I kicked on the air, it worked perfectly. But when I kicked on the heat, it was throwing out cold air so the heat pump wasn't turning the heater on. Ace Heating & Cooling came that same day. The guy checked the inside unit, the outside unit, the thermostat, everything. He was really thorough and professional. My thermostat was defective and he had all the parts to get that fixed. I also had a claim with the ice maker and that went fine too. Cooper Appliance came, ordered me one, and they installed it. Then I had an additional problem with something else. They had to order another part and they are going to have to come back out again. But they've been on time. I also put in a claim for my pool light and I did that online too. The guy came out, took pictures, and said that the light bulb’s burned out. But I didn't read my contract well. Lamps or light bulbs in the pool weren't covered, so I just wasted that 100 bucks.

Every time I call American Home Shield, they come over and they fix things. I just don't like all the fees that they charge. I thought that the 89.13 charge was ridiculous. My deductible is much less than 89 if looking at my contract. They knew they said that, but then, they told me I gotta look at the state fees and all of that. When they do a contract, they should put all that in there.
Also, they say one thing, but then they do another when it comes to money-wise. I had them double-charge me and I had to talk with a guy. He was nice enough to take it off. Then he was slick about it because he did it at two different times, and it was in the same month. I told him that the company had only been out here once and it was a follow-up. He charged me for a follow-up and he was not supposed to do that. That was why I was a little angry. But then people make mistakes and it's during the pandemic. Most of the time, AHS comes through and they do okay. Recently, the freezer was not cooling like it should. Cal Valley Appliance Repair came out. The seal was broken on the refrigerator-freezer and they put a seal on it.

My AC unit was making a noise and it was not staying at the correct temperature. The techs were here from 10:00 in the morning until 6:30 at night. They spent 10:00 in the morning till about 1:00 in the afternoon diagnosing it. Then after they did that, the rest of the time was spent doing the repair. I had no idea I was going to be home all day with them managing us. After the service, the unit still has the same noise. They told me that that is the typical noise that it makes. I struggle contacting them to come out again because I don't know that I want to spend another 10 hours with them. I paid $960 out of pocket for that, and I'm not even sure what they're going to attempt to charge me to come out again.
I'm working with AHS right now on a water heater replacement that happened to occur within a couple of days of the AC issue. They are being absolutely uncooperative and their customer service is horrible. So trying to get a water heater replaced has caused me more time away from my job that I just don't even want to deal with them. I would rather go out, purchase a new unit on my own, finance it, and not even deal with AHS.
I don't even feel comfortable with the technicians that they're sending out because I don't really know who to trust. One technician that they sent out was charging me $460 in extra fees. I called AHS about this and said that I was extremely upset at the lack of integrity that this technician had for trying to take advantage of me. I talked to three different people over three different days that they tried to sound empathetic, but I felt that they didn't have competency and I was wasting a lot of time. I'm trying not to raise my stress levels because I already have enough with my own job.

The service is fine. I have used American Home Shield three or four times. Easy to use portal. My only complaint is that for the last two times that I've had repairs done, I had my microwave repaired and it worked for a while, but then it stopped working. And then, I had it repaired again just a couple of weeks ago and it now isn't working again. I’m not happy about paying the 100 and some dollars twice. I don't know how that works. I don't know if I'm supposed to call back and let someone know. I don't want to pay 100 and some dollars again for someone else to come out.
Obviously, my microwave needs to be replaced since I've had to pay for it twice and it hasn't been fixed. But this time, what happens is it comes on when it's supposed to be off. It seemed like it was fixed, but one time last week, it happened again. It's hard for me to replicate the issue because it doesn't happen all the time. But I don't want to wait until it goes completely out and then have to call someone. So, I don't know what to do. I feel that it needs to be replaced. But I don't know if I have to buy it myself. Other than that, the folks that have come out were very prompt.

My washing machine drain pipe wasn't draining properly and it kept flooding out my garage. I fought with it for two days on my own before I decided to call American Home Shield. I scheduled service with the contractor on a Thursday and they were here on a Monday. I was out of town so that worked out perfectly. The guys that came out were super nice and humble. They were really cool dudes and I liked them a lot. But the issues that I had with the washing machine didn't happen when they were here. A guy ran every test. He pretty much ran the washing machine and said it was not clogging anymore. I haven't used the washing machine for two weeks because the thing kept clogging. The guy just said it might clear itself out. The plumbing works fine now.
American Home Shield gave me a good deductible. And no matter what my problem is, they will fix it for $125. My only concern is if the issue is simpler than what you think it is, you still have to pay the money because you still requested the service. For instance, the guys that came here for my washing machine did not have to do any work but I still had a deductible to pay. That sucked.
Before the plumbing guys came, I had a heating guy come the same day. My water was messing up and my heat stopped working. We thought it was a motherboard. I initially called a guy from Michael & Son and I couldn't figure out why my heating was off. It turned out the emergency cutoff switch was flipped. I didn't know that I had one. The guy ran a bunch of tests, flipped the switch, and said, "It's working. Pay us $90." I did that but then the heat stopped working.
The first guy that showed up was from an electrical company that was one of the partnered American Home Shield heating and cooling companies. He said he couldn't work on my heating problem because of the kind of furnace that I had. I thought I had an electrical furnace but turned out to be a gas furnace. That might have been a mistake on my part because I know I have an automatic pilot light. It lights itself so I don't have to go in there and I have never had to worry about lighting it. The first guy thought it was a motherboard and said it didn't make sense that the unit won't shut off. He unplugged the thermostat but the heat was still going.
The first guy had to call American Home Shield back and they sent somebody else out. Another guy was here an hour later and said that the Michael & Son guy who initially did the fix left a hot wire on something so the heat would not shut off. My gas bill was $400 and I couldn't figure out why. We had to run with the AC on in the freezing cold because the heat was constantly blown even when we turned the air all the way off. The guy said it was a hot wire still connected to something causing it to run even when it's not supposed to run. Another guy was called and he came in and solved the problem right up. Now, my heat works.

I have two air conditioning units upstairs and one wasn't working. The first claim I submitted for, there was a button available on the website. But, I noticed that after the first submission, the button went away. So, I had to call in. Jim, the tech who came, was very professional and efficient. He did what he needed to do and left. However, the issue is more complicated and now, it's being referred to another contractor. Jim told me he was going to submit the claim and that it would go through. I noticed that didn't happen and my claim was closed. I had to call back in and tell American Home Shield that Jim said he was referring my issue to an electrician but I don't see that in process on AHS's website. AHS told me that it looked like my contract wasn't active. So, I had to wait on hold for about 15 minutes while they sorted out whatever the issue was. It is straightened out now but it looked like my account wasn't being tracked closely before I called in.

Fort Bend Appliance did a great job. I wish we had them at the very beginning. We moved in in September and had this home warranty program with AHS. We found out that our washer didn't work so AHS sent Sears out to take care of it. They said it was the transmission. Once they got through, they ended up replacing the transmission part. But it kept doing the same thing. Before, it wouldn't start and now it would but it was making this horrible noise. Then it was leaking. I finally called AHS in December and they sent out the Fort Bend Appliance guy. He was very helpful. He said, "I don't know why the first people didn't catch this, but it is rotted underneath. You probably have a leak going on." He also said it was beyond being able to repair it. I was very pleased with him.
AHS could not put customers on wait for so long on the phone. I have been on the phone many times and spent quite a few hours trying to get somebody to help me. I have been stalled and put on hold so much until the next person would come up. Then they would want to help me and they'd have to send me on to someone else, and I'd be on hold for another hour. It's been a problem.
Last week, they sent me an email and asked me which way I wanted to go - if I wanted to go ahead and have a reimbursement or a new appliance. I said I wanted the new appliance. I did everything and filled everything out. They said that it was not a problem. They would get it taken care of. I called yesterday and I was put on hold for an hour. Last night, I finally had to give up. Today, I finally spoke with someone. She was very helpful. She said they should have called me back to let me know I was not in that 55 different washers that they had available. I don't know if they were just gonna let it go until I complained but there's a great miscommunication. I also realized that AHS has helped me out with getting someone out here but it costs me $81 every time they come out to go ahead and do a repair. It's cost me money. I wish they had a little bit better method of taking care of it.

A contractor also came out for the AC but we wound up replacing all of those. We also used American Home Shield one other time for electrical and the experience I've had with the people that have come out here and fixed the problems has been good. I like American Home Shield for that. They took care of what they said they would. However, they need to get better service on their phones. Trying to get ahold of somebody to initially do something has been extremely difficult. There are long hold periods. It's not a good thing for a customer to have to wait so long to talk to somebody. Sometimes I don't get to talk to them at all. I've been hung up before after waiting 40 minutes and I won't ever forget that 'cause I'm really high on customer service.

It got me back to using my sink and doing dishes. More importantly, the garbage disposal is hooked to the dishwasher so they got my whole house running again because when the kitchen is down, everything is down. I’m very satisfied with AHS. We've always had great service with the claims that went smoothly. We've had a couple issues with some other appliances, and everything's gone good with them. When our water heater was making some noises, we wanted to get it checked out. The plumber responded quickly, which was good. He came in, inspected everything, and heard the noise of what it was doing. He reassured us that it was normal operation and it wasn't anything to be concerned about. We've heard the noise before, but it seemed to be getting louder and he did a good job of explaining what was going on. Since the temperatures have started dropping outside, we were gonna hear it a bit more 'cause the water's colder going into the water heater.

The tech who came out was Jonah. He did a great job. I just moved into the house. I wasn't sure that the basement heater was working, and he explained to me how it was set up and showed me the filters and different things. He was very thorough. I booked the claim through the American Home Shield website. It was very easy. I had some electrical issues with some ceiling fans and lighting that they were able to fix one of them. But the other two, the guys said that they couldn't fix it because there's not the proper wiring to make the light switch turn the ceiling fan on and off. So, they couldn't complete that job. Then in the closet, there's a light. They were checking electrical in one of the bedrooms, and they took the light out in the little frame where the light's in. So, now, that doesn't work.
I'm waiting for somebody to call me back on the follow-up because I would like to get the ceiling fans to work properly in both bedrooms and get the light in the closet fixed. I also have another claim for my microwave where the light stopped working, so the techs had to order a part. They're coming out next week. I've had a lot of calls in to American Home Shield. I saw that an order was put in and then, I got a notification today stating that it will be pushed back. He has to come back.
On the week of Christmas, my heat went. The first company sucked. American Home Shield should get rid of them. I had to be a ** just to get someone else to come out. If I’m paying all this money and my heat's out, if one contractor can't come expeditiously, then I should be going to the next one because that's what I pay AHS for. They’re so concerned about the deductibles than getting people out. Also, the yearly payment should be low. It's raising and raising and I don't know why. There are other companies that offer more with less that you have to pay for. The second company, United Air Temp, was great. They replaced the motor and the fan that was in the furnace. It took a little over a week but they rushed the best that they could because I have an elderly family member living with me.

The repair guys showed me that the filter was clogged and they gave me the information I needed. They also manually changed the water line so it is going around the filter, which instantly fixed the poor water pressure. They also demonstrated how to fix the filter when I got the proper part from Home Depot. The water flow is great now. There’s not a rush for the part because they explained that it was an extra thing. 95% of homes don’t have it. So, I haven't even bothered with it yet but I'll get around to it. The problem is completely fixed and significantly better than it's been since I bought the house.
I’ve had mostly good experiences with American Home Shield but recently, I've had two less-than-good ones. In the past, they had a list of approved contractors and a number of contractors have been to my home a few times. I was comfortable with these businesses and they were aware of my appliances because they were the ones who were previously servicing them. I've had problems with the automated system before which is why I like to call. It's safe and you know what you're getting. I was listening on the automated system saying over and over again to speak to a customer representative. It booked me with a random company that I never heard of. It’s approved and in their system but I called AHS and told them that I made a call to a vendor that I knew was in their system.
I confirmed that the vendor had availability and that they were covered by this home warranty system. They had serviced my house through AHS before. I asked if I could have them for this date and time and AHS said they didn’t have any availability. So, I was a little bit disgruntled because at that point, the vendor flat out lied to me because I called them before I called AHS. I thought they were giving me the runaround. It was 20 minutes of going back and forth and it turned out, after asking very many specific questions, that the customer service rep from AHS that I was talking to didn’t have the ability from her home screen to choose the servicer because the automated system already did it.
I was very disappointed about that. I spoke to the supervisor and to some other person they connected me to. I did not get help from anyone. AHS sent over Sears. My oven is still screwed up and my dryer is still rocking, and it still hasn't been resolved to this day. I don't know what to do at this point. This one bad experience does not negate every great experience I've had with AHS but it was very dissatisfying at this point. I'll certainly continue to use them but I will not be recommending them right now. After a couple more good service calls, and after I regain trust a little bit, I would recommend them again.

There were two different things that had to be done. The one that came out to do the dishwasher was excellent. But the one that came out to do the freezer was not. He came and put the part on but there was still no ice coming from my ice maker. He told me that I had too much food in my freezer. I don't think it has anything to do with the food in the freezer making the part not work. It has been a week and I still don't have any ice-making in my ice maker. I need somebody else to come out because if that's his way of explaining how to diagnose something, I don't need that guy coming back out ‘cause that's just dumb. That's what a freezer is for, to put food in it.
I've always had good service with American Home Shield. So, I’d definitely recommend it to everybody that I know. You'd wait forever when you'd talk to their reps directly to submit a claim. Then most of the time, they can't get it right because they don't understand English. So I started submitting it online so I don't have to go through that.

We had AHS at our other house and we were very satisfied. When we sold our house, we gave them a year of American Home Shield. And when my new neighbors moved in about five years ago, I told them about it and how satisfied we were. But they had the worst experience of their lives and they canceled it. I felt so guilty. We also had an air conditioner issue that they sent this fly-by-night crackpot company out here. I was afraid of the guy and he had to go completely through my house into my closet to get in the attic. I don't think he did anything when he was up there and maybe he shopped. He was awful. I called in and complained but they couldn't find another company to come. But the techs that AHS sent out were not ugly to people and we are appreciative. Then, they finally told us to call whoever we wanted, so that was nice. But we live in Louisiana and that happened in August that we didn't have air conditioning.
Other than that, we had a very difficult problem and the guy that AHS sent out never gave up. He worked and worked on it, and finally got me hot water again. But when I took a shower on Monday, I only had a little bit of hot water. So we called him back and he said he's booked for about a week, but he'll come back next week. So he's doing his best to correct the situation. He's also same guy we used to use before we have American Shield at our old house. Their company is composed of a father and a couple of sons. The son came out and worked for five hours last week, but we requested the father to come out this time. He's seen and done it all. Aside from that, we had a wonderful experience with AHS for our refrigerator as well as on Christmas when my oven went out. They also bought me a new washing machine. It's so nice to know I'm not going to pay more than $75 when something goes out. My house is 160 years old, so it's important.

I've been with American Home Shield for a few years and overall, the service has been great. Everything was good till last year when I had a furnace unit that was going bad. They would fix it and it would go bad again. Then they would fix it again but it would go bad again. It was going back and forth. Then they recommended it being replaced due to age.
I called the vendor and they showed a price quote that they could give to me to get a new one. But then the vendor flipped and said that there was no issue with the furnace and that they were able to repair it. They took it to their management and said they didn’t see evidence of it needing to be replaced. It was really suspicious when all of a sudden it didn't need to be replaced. That left a real sour taste in my mouth. Eventually, I replaced the whole unit because that was supposed to be done. They told me to get a quote and they said that it wasn't good enough. So it was basically out of my own pocket.

At first, the service was very rocky. I had a lot of issues. I was in my house about a year and my washing machine went out. I called in regard to this situation at least six times. It came to a point that I could not live without a washing machine anymore. I have a whole family of five. I had to go out and purchase a washing machine. AHS only offered $150 towards the purchase after I had to wait several months and continued to call. I was about to cancel and go with another company but I stayed because of my mother. She’s had them for years.
The service has been getting better. On one call type of service, they were able to quickly come out and get a vendor. My garage door went out. I could not get out of my garage. I panicked. My mother called and the next day, they came out and serviced it. It was fixed. The turnaround time was so much better than what it was. My mother is the one who always have all the conversations with them now and the only thing she said was the extended hold period to be able to get somebody to answer the phone and get the service requested.

We are aware of how things today are not made to last forever. Our home was built brand new in 2010. Being that it was starting to get a little bit older, we thought getting American Home Shield would be a smart thing to cover ourselves on. We had several experiences with American Home Shield and they were very unsatisfactory. But my husband said there was one guy who was awesome. He seemed very professional, knowledgeable, and polite. He was was extremely nice. The only thing was the problem was not fixed and we still have no heat in our house. All the guy did was look and we haven't heard from him since. He explained to my husband that because of this whole COVID thing, we may not even have heat until July. But they were looking for a heat pump.

The person from Hershey Heating and Cooling came for our heating and did an exceptional job. I liked his professionalism. The only thing was that I had called 30 days earlier for the same issue. I paid $100 and they came out, then 30 days later, I had to call back because it was a similar problem. I was charged twice within a 30-day round I thought it was a bit much. But everything that I've had so far with American Home Shield has been really good. They're attentive to the clients because this gentleman came out on a weekend when he heard the heat was out as he didn't want anybody in the house to be cold. In fact, I just gave a recommendation for another property to do American Home Shield.

Everything went smoothly. The oven is working, and we were able to bake for Christmas.

My oven/microwave wall unit showed a display error and stopped working. AHS dispatched someone on 10/18/2020 and unit still does not work. On 10/18/2020, AHS sent someone to our home to "fix" our wall oven/microwave combo unit that was showing an error code on the display, causing it not to operate. They sent someone who knew nothing about the brand of oven we have (Samsung) and said he needed to do research. He ordered parts and returned on 12/3/2020, installed the parts, and it did not fix the issue.
The combo unit still does not work and was left completely disconnected from the power source. I never heard back from the company. I called American Home Shield 3 separate times to inquire about the repair. Each time, they said they were unable to call their contractor and would call me back. They never called me back. Instead, I had to keep calling to inquire with AHS. Today is 1/5/2021 and still nothing. I am extremely disappointed with AHS.

The claims submission has been fairly easy but you have to be a little bit patient. You don't get an instantaneous response but it's very reasonable. The person that American Home Shield originally sent on a particular incident was really incapable of fixing the problem at all. We paid out-of-pocket for a different plumber to come and take care of it. So this time we specifically asked them for a different person. They assigned another person to come out and he was terrific.
We've used American Home Shield on three separate occasions. They were fine except for that one experience that was definitely not good. But they have made good on that and refunded the service fee to us. American Home Shield has been pretty fair. But they need to really screen the people that they send out for whatever problem that may be occurring so that they have people that are really on the top of their game.

My experience with American Home Shield was awesome. The only thing was I had to wait a long time. It was more than a week. From the first call until the diagnosis, it was a long period until somebody showed up. The house was cold and my mom had to go to my niece's house. It was because day and night, when it gets cold for a long time, it's really cold. The house was really cold for maybe 7 to 10 days. Everywhere, services are delayed. But once the tech came, he resolved the problem. It was done nicely. The first day, he found the problem, and the second day, techs came in and they replaced the part. They happened to have the part with them. They were very nice people.
The lady over at the customer service department was good. I wish that it would take the service people a little bit sooner to show up to fix when it gets hot and cold. It's too long to wait 7 to 10 days when you got old people in your house or pets, and the whole house is very cold. Overall, I was satisfied. Still, I wish that overall, the system would take care of people a little bit better. We would have more technicians and more people working on these issues. With the COVID, things are really bad everywhere and a lot of people are not working.

He replaced the gasket and that took care of it. Filing claims to American Home Shield has been very simple online. I've done it a number of times, so it's easy to do. It would be good if they could manage, once there's an appointment, a little more direct communication between the customer and whoever is doing the work. I was having trouble with an appliance and it was addressed. Austin Appliance came out and the tech looked at it. It had some water leaking. When you press the water dispenser, it was leaking in the front. He fixed it and the thing wasn't thawing out too. Then when he put it all back together, you put a cup up there to get the pump running. It starts clicking. I thought it just maybe had air, but it seems like it's got maybe a short when you click it. It was working fine, but it just clicked, and now I'm noticing that it's happening more recurrently. The techs were great people. I just got bad luck I guess.
I've been very happy with American Home Shield. They're thorough people and things happen, and I'm glad I recognize that things happen. It's just sometimes when you call in, they say, "We'll just get somebody to come out." I want the same people because when you get new people to come out, you're starting from ground zero and you're getting nowhere. Someone's less familiar with the program of how that system works. So I just think sometimes, they just need to have more people that can understand English a little bit better.

The refrigerator came with the home and it started leaking within a couple of weeks. It took about10 days to get the first appointment. The repairman came out saying that the drainage tube was frozen. It's not uncommon with move-ins, old refrigerators that have been unplugged. Because sometimes mildew could grow on the tube and plug it up. That causes everything to freeze and the freeze causes it to liquid. The repairman cleaned that out and he thawed everything and left. It was a good and very educational visit. I really appreciated everything about it. Except that within 10 days, it started leaking again.
Now it was two weeks until the next appointment. So we had a leaky refrigerator for over a month. This gentleman came out. and he not only did the exact same thing the last gentleman did, but he also cleaned out the coils. He took a vacuum cleaner to the coils underneath. He said that the previous owners were pet owners and never cleaned this out, and it was very likely that that was what made everything overwork and caused the plugged up that caused the freezing. He continued the same story as the gentleman before. It was quite educational and I was equally pleased.
This is my fourth claim with American Home Shield. I was thrilled with the repairmen while they were here. They're all very kind, courteous and respectful. They have done a stellar job as far as speed, efficiency, kindness, courtesy, and educating me. They also have to wear booties and masks, and we love that they're being careful. We have a baby, and a baby on the way. So, we appreciate all of their efforts and they're educating me. They've told me what they've done and what I have to do to maintain the appliances. The gentleman who replaced our water heater was fast and efficient. But it wasn't until we hired a guy outside the scope of the warranty to come in and look at my stove. In doing so, he had to turn off the furnace and he looked at the water heater and said that it wasn't to code. All of a sudden, I had red flags going off all over the place.
I called the warranty company and they said that I should've gotten an email saying that I would have to pay for the three parts that were required to make that to code out of pocket. But being my first home and my first home warranty company, I didn't know about it. I didn't approve of that extra expense, so I didn't get that extra expense. I would have liked it communicated better that this is not just recommended. Aside from that, we've been satisfied with everything. The timing it takes to get things done is a long time. But with warranties, that makes sense. I would recommend my friends and family to get a home warranty. I'm glad we have a warranty and at this time, our expectation is to renew that warranty with Home Shield.

United Air Temp came out two times. The first time, the contractor was very accurate with what he described. He was sympathetic that my machine was like that, and it was fixed the first time. The first time he believed the machine was supposed to have been changed because it was getting old until it broke and was ripping off all my clothes. He recommended that it will be changed. American Home Shield turned it down. They weren't gonna cover the change for one reason or the other. I requested a second person to come out and look at what the issue was.
The second person was claiming my house would have been on flame because the machine was so badly damaged. Eventually, they decided to change the machine for me. While I'm waiting, I've gone ahead and got a machine, and then they will give me a portion of what they want to pay for the replacement of that machine. So for that particular contracting company, they are good, but American Home Shield needs to be able to believe the recommendation of their contractors.
I'm not impressed with American Home Shield. They take forever to do what they need to do. With what is going on now, I don't want to fully recommend American Home Shield. They changed my garbage disposal. The first time they took out a quality of $250 and put a $35 quality in there, and it broke. The contractor that came out to fix it said the quality that could be in here that is not so bad is $150. I paid for that for him to fix it because I couldn't continue to wait into the Christmas. Now, they are offering me a reimbursement for $70. When you know the contractor that came out said the least quality that should be here is $150. Those are like cheating the customer. We pay for years. If something breaks, they are looking for the cheapest quality. A lot of people are moving away from American Home Shield because they seem not really doing well by a lot of people.

I called American Home Shield on a Saturday and the contractor was here Monday morning. I had some issues with the plumbers that were sent out before but Rightway Plumbing did it right. The first time Brick Street Plumbing came out, I noticed a leak in my downstairs that was directly underneath the master bathroom. They thought it was a toilet and they replaced the toilet doughnut. But in doing so, they broke off the shut-off knob and the repair guy said he didn't have the parts to replace it. So he replaced the doughnut for the toilet. He said he was going to have somebody set up an appointment to come fix the shut-off valve that he broke. Nobody ever called me back and I ended up calling them because it still leaked.
I had Brick Street come out a second time for the same one. They cut the ceiling underneath the master bathroom and found out that it was a pipe leaking. They fixed that but my shut-off valve still didn't get fixed. They have been here three times and I'm not pleased with any of the times they were here. We got American Home Shield when we bought this house eight years ago and we've kept it. When my daughter and her husband bought their house, they got it too. Other than Brick Street, I have no complaints whatsoever. I do the claims online or by phone call but it's easy. I'm not extremely tech-savvy but I don't have a problem giving it. Usually, once I put in a claim, I get an email and a text from them within 15 minutes. Then, depending on who the contractors that comes out, I get a phone call or a text from them trying to set up an appointment time and day to come out. So I'm more than pleased with AHS.

At that time, it paid for itself. After that, "Yeah, let's play it safe in case something else decides to die." Recently, Sears came out and I liked the tech. He knew his stuff. He was training a young kid and was explaining in detail what the kid would look for, what the noise would be, if it was this or this. He was thorough teaching that kid. We got American Home Shield on the 1st of December which was when we moved into our new house. They had our address wrong so the first two times we made a claim with the dishwasher and with the furnace, the people they dispatched out were given the wrong address. I called American Home Shield to try to fix that and they got it fixed. You gotta talk to the call center people in the Philippines. It might be worth their while if they would put something on their website where you can verify your address so that that can get straightened out at the beginning.
American Home Shield did what it was supposed to do and things got done. The fee was 100 bucks as stated in the contract. Submitting a service request was fine although I would prefer to talk to a human being and not do it online. That's generational more than anything. However, I do not think the garbage disposal that the guy replaced it with is as good of quality as what I had. It was the first time I've ever had American Home Shield replace anything. If I had not had them and went out and bought a garbage disposal to replace it, I would have bought a better garbage disposal, a more expensive one than the one that was put in. I recently replaced my dishwasher and I didn't even call American Home Shield because I figured the dishwasher they would put in would not be the quality of a dishwasher that I would want. Warranties are, in my past experience, pretty much garbage. But American Home Shield has been a lifesaver. If anyone is buying a house that's over 10, 15 years old, I would encourage them to get that worked into the negotiations on the sale. They have been great in terms of fast approvals. It's just the cumbersomeness of getting the issue in the system that's the problem. Calling them is extremely difficult. You wait and wait and push buttons. In the website, to accurately describe the issue with the appliance is very difficult as well as being able to say multiple issues on one appliance. I haven't been very impressed. It's 2021 now. I can sit here and swipe on my phone and get a 75-inch flat screen TV at my doorstep tomorrow by Amazon. We've got the software and we've got the logistic capabilities to make this happen. So I set up a service appointment for the plumber, and he said that I didn't have an issue. But the plumber was good.

I have had two claims and American Home Shield has been excellent. I'm very happy with them. It’s only 100 bucks to have them come out and that’s great. They are very responsive. I submitted a claim recently then they assigned Loyalty Home Service. Then Loyalty emailed me and called me. The first gentleman that showed up helped me. I have a Price Pfister faucet which is rather pricey. The hose went bad. It sprung a leak. He saw it and said if he had to replace it, all American Home Shield would pay for is a tract-built faucet. I didn’t know that. I always thought they would replace it with like kind and quality. He advised me they have a lifetime warranty on their parts if I ordered the part. He would come back and replace the part. That way I still keep my good faucet. I was really impressed with that. He came right out within two days. He showed up on Christmas Eve day once I got my part in. I would use them or recommend them to anybody. They were great.

The guy from Mr. Rooter addressed our plumbing issue pretty good. He is very knowledgeable. He seemed trustworthy and was really good. I liked him. I had a guy from Roto-Rooter there before and he wasn’t very helpful. The claims submission with American Home Shield is pretty simple. But it has gotten to where they don't cover as much as they've used to. Also on the plumber, they used to have the plumber that I always used with them. But he's not on their list anymore. That was unfortunate because I was thinking about switching over to the actual company he's with now.

We've needed things a couple of times an AHS got things set up, and somebody got in relatively quickly and took care of it. We had a plumbing issue in our master bedroom. I know temperatures coming out of the spigot will drop when it gets to be colder weather, but it wasn't getting very warm at all. When the tech came in, he popped the cap off the thing and turned the screw about a quarter turn to move the scald block thing back where it would kick on more hot water and put the cap back on. It took 20 seconds and it cost me $100. But he was great. He wore his mask and described to me what it was.

It was a wonderful experience with American Home Shield. When I had an issue, they sent someone right away. I had to wait to order a part and I appreciated that the representative from AHS called me back several times to check and to confirm if we had received the part or not. Once we received it, she was able to book me an appointment for the tech to come back out and within 48 hours, somebody did.
When I make claims, I normally go on the website because that’s more convenient but this time, I called in because I had a specific question. I had a faucet leak in the bathtub and I purchased a full handle. So, I called ahead of time to ask if I am covered for them to install the whole brand-new kit or if they want to order something. They told me that if the contractor can’t fix it, I will be covered for the part so order it through the company. It was great. I can take the other parts that I paid out-of-pocket to get back to Home Depot. But I wanted to get clarification because I didn't want for them to come out and tell me that I need a whole another handle. It was why I bought one ahead of time but I did not need to.
I interacted more with the first tech who came because he was explaining stuff. He was a very nice man and seemed very knowledgeable. He replaced the handle but it didn’t turn the whole way because the replacement part that we had from the company had two left handles instead of one left, one right. It still worked but after he left, the faucet started leaking again. We had to have someone come back again to put the handle in the right side and it made the leak go away again. I'm hoping I won't have to call American Home Shield, because it hasn't been a week yet.
This was a simple leak and you don't even need to call AHS. You just need to call the part place and get the part. So we already had parts and stuff but what was weird about it is that when the second plumber came, he made it seem it was two parts and if he was saying that, the other side was only just one part. It's never even been looked upon. So, if they were only there to fix the leak side, which is on the right, you should ask them if we should also go ahead and replace the rubber part on the left. I would hate to call back again and say it’s the other side. So hopefully, they checked both sides.
I appreciate the service with AHS and I've recommended it to some of my family members. I was referred by an aunt. She told me about it, and I went online and signed up. Everyone had such great responses. We're in a new construction house, so you think everything is brand spanking new but AHS gives you peace of mind. I couldn’t fix something so simple and AHS is comforting that you could call and they would send somebody right over. You would know what the cost was gonna be upfront so it was an excellent service instead of trying to figure it out yourself.

I've always had good luck with American Home Shield. I had them at my house in California. We had some financial issues when I moved up here, so I had to wait before I could get a new one. But it's been great. I've always liked them. With my recent claim, the interlock switch on the microwave door had broken. Scheduling was fairly quick. The guy from Angel Appliances Repair came out the day after Christmas and fixed it within an hour or so. All he had to do was replace the switch. He was very courteous, wore booties and a mask, and all the protocols. It's working great. But this is the second time that I had to have that switch replaced. Apparently, it breaks fairly easily, so every couple of years, I got to put a new one in. I'm careful. I don't slam or hang off the door.

A spring broke on my garage door. Due to the mask thing, the tech stood back from my door and said that he will just do the job and wave at me when he was done. Before it got fixed, the door was quieter. Now it seems that when it hits it's awful loud. Back in March when we started with the COVID thing, I started having problems with my air conditioner. It took six times 'til the techs finally fixed it. They come out and told me to call them if it's not cooling off. I don't agree with how many times they have to keep coming out.
Meanwhile, I got very sick with my blood sugar and the medicine I was on due to the heat. So, I had to buy myself a window unit and my son-in-law put it in. When American Home Shield got a hold of me, I told them that they credited me on my monthly payments. I've dealt with that for two years now. Last year, I had the same thing when I first bought the house. Home Shield was just dragging things along. Hopefully, we won’t deal with that again.

I had a problem with my dishwasher. The bottom drawer was filling up with water. I called American Home Shield and the technician came in and I showed him where the water was. He told me what he thought the problem was and then he said that we were fine. The next day, I did a little dishes and I had to call American Home Shield the next day. I told them that it wasn't the problem and that I didn't want that technician coming out here anymore because he was being lazy and getting paid to do nothing. He was there for literally five minutes. So I told them that I'd like a different technician. The rep said, "Oh, well, there was only one other one that does the job here that works on that kind of dishwasher. Can I send?" I said I would take him. Then the rep said that he was busy. I told them that I would wait for them. They scheduled the appointment but the same guy came out.
When the guy came back out, he looked at my dishwasher and he said it was the strap problem. He was there for five minutes again. He was going to order the strap, which was making the water go into the bottom drawer, and they let me know when the part was in. Then I got a call from American Home Shield and he told them that they couldn't remove my dishwasher, and that the floor was in the way of taking the dishwasher out. First of all, he didn't even try to take the dishwasher out. Second of all, that was a lie because I just had my laminate flooring installed, and they had to take out my dishwasher to put the floor in. I told American Home Shield that that guy was lying and that wasn't the case, and then I would like a different person out.
American Home Shield sent somebody from a different company. The technician came out but he didn't speak great English. He was there for 10 minutes and he told me what the problem was. He said that it needed one of those air things that are on top of your dishwasher. He said it needed two because it has two drawers. I told him that I didn't need two because if I needed two of them, the people that I bought the place from, that bought this appliance, would have installed two if the appliance needed two. It was installed from the company that makes the dishwashers. So that was a lie. The guy still got paid even though he didn't do my job.
So now, I'm sitting with a broken dishwasher and the sensor on there says it has a wrench on there, saying it needs to be blinked off and on. I can't do my dishwasher at all. I called American Home Shield and I asked to speak to a supervisor for three times now. I sat on hold for three hours one day, and then two hours the next. They said they were going to call me back within 24 hours, but I never got a phone call from anybody. I'm still waiting to get my dishwasher fixed, and I paid $75.
When you call somebody to tell them you want to speak to a supervisor, you have to tell the whole story over again. Then they would say, "Okay. Oh, yeah, I see that you called. Okay, you have that problem." I told them that the people that they sent out here didn't want to do their job. They were getting paid for doing nothing. They were here for five minutes. I could've looked up my dishwasher better than they did. I was standing right here when they did it. So to treat me like I'm an idiot is really making me mad. We're doing our dishes by hand. I have rheumatoid arthritis, which is super painful for me, and I'm really angry about it. American Home Shield doesn't take care of their clients. I will be canceling unless somebody calls me within 24 hours. I'm sick of it.

A water heater issue was reported to American Home Shield on the 5th of December. Blue Ridge Mountain came out and they talked with my property manager. They did some sort of assessment and determined that the water heater needed to be replaced. A certain amount of time went by and nothing happened. I was called by the property manager and said the tenants were going without hot water. It's cold outside here.
I'm the type of landlord who wants to save tenants from any type of suffering. I don't want them to go through stuff like that. I don't want to be the landlord who's responsible for the heater not working or not getting it fixed. My idea is as soon as something breaks, we fix it. We call the tenants back and say, “We can’t come out today but we're gonna have a person out there tomorrow morning to take a look at it.” That makes people feel better rather than not hearing anything at all. I told the property manager, “Fine, let’s get another water heater.”
I was then told that there was a delay with American Home Shield. My concern was that American Home Shield wasn't doing their part so this thing could get done in a reasonable amount of time. When I asked about it, I was told that the people belonging to the section of American Home Shield that usually processes these claims when it comes to replacing stuff weren't in because the holiday schedule didn’t allow them to be in. They were off on holiday leave, which I found that unacceptable especially from the position of the tenants suffering. I told the property manager that if American Home Shield was not doing anything, we should move forward. I wanted a water heater in there and I would eat the cost. I would take it up with American Home Shield later on.
My main mission was to get that water heater in. The property manager found a plumber who would do the job right. The property manager coordinated with the tenants a time when the guy could come out and get it done. Right now, the water heater is in and it’s up and running. They got it done in 24 hours, which was great. But it cost me 200 bucks. I haven't heard any word from American Home Shield whether or not they are gonna pay me back. American Home Shield usually deals with the property manager so I need to call the property manager to find out what's going on.
This is the first time something happened where American Home Shield did not come through for me. This one event has darkened the whole experience. American Home Shield should have been more alert or they should have had a contingency plan especially if it's the holiday season. Telling the tenant that their heater or air conditioning unit doesn't work in some of the most grueling times of the year is not the right answer. I'm not satisfied with the way this claim was handled. Another thing was American Home Shield increased the premium over $100. It's getting harder for me to justify an increase in the premium. I'm not happy that I had to pay for the water heater out of my pocket after paying an increased premium. It was a desperate time and we couldn't count on American Home Shield.

They were able to come out first thing the next day. Then it turned out that it was really just a check. My wife thought that the outdoor wasn't supposed to get kicked on when the heater is on. But the way this system was designed, it was supposed to and then it was verified that it was functioning as it should. They were very helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. They were very professional but it seemed like they were in a hurry. But when they asked me if I had further concerns and I took a moment to consider everything, they were patient with that.
American Home Shield is easy to work with, very professional, and they provide expedient service. My wife also had some service done before we bought the house. Some siding needed to be repaired and some areas were fixed but it wasn't the area that we were asking for. We also had someone who came out to service the refrigerant in the air conditioning system before we bought the house.

When a technician comes out, there's no money handling and anything like that. It's a fairly simple and good process. Wright Appliance Service & Repair came out for several things and they were addressed well. They first came out to check my dryer then they fixed it with no problems. They also came out and worked on my microwave. They initially tried fixing it. They said it was a board that was wrong with it and they ordered one. They came back but the board itself didn't work. When you buy a new house, you get flooded with stuff. American Home Shield should look at contacting those carry-over customers. We purchased the house a year ago and we didn't realize that we have a home warranty system. We kind of forgotten about it 'cause it was already paid by the previous owner. Everything, so far, has been good with American Home Shield itself. I had two plumbing experiences and it was a similar situation both times. They helped me get everything taken care of. They were really nice and very professional when I asked them questions. When the first plumber came out, I told him he couldn't come to my house without a mask on. He said he has asthma. But this is my house. Everybody's different but just for a few minutes to see something, not having a mask was pushing it to the extreme. When I got a call from the second plumber and I mentioned that I had a problem with the previous plumber, he laughed. He said they wear masks.
We also contacted American Home Shield when we first moved in so we could get a service done on our heater. The house sat for a year and since we were gonna be running the heater soon, we wanted to make sure everything was checked out by a licensed person before we attempted to run it because it's a gas heater. Recently, it took about two minutes every time I called then they connected me. I realized the fact that they’ve improved that process and I like it.
American Home Shield has been pretty helpful in general. We had a leaky kitchen sink. J & A repair people fixed part of it the first time. But I noticed a couple of days later that the sink was still leaking. I called again and they came back promptly. They fixed the rest. They did a good job. Unfortunately, I had to go through extra requests to get my pool equipment fixed. The people that serviced it quit. But I arranged for a repair that I could get done to be covered anyway. Another contractor I had was Amazing Plumbing and they quit too. I had to wait for a while. But the technicians did a good job when they finally came here. I wish American Home Shield had more people available to do jobs sometimes. Other than that, I'm satisfied.

We've had multiple claims with AHS. We've had a rekey request, a dryer request, and a washing machine request. We most recently had an electrical issue request. Submitting a claim is fine. It's really easy to go online, check the box for the issue and give a brief explanation if needed. Relatively soon, I get an email or a text message saying that the professional has been contacted and should be contacted shortly to set an appointment. Usually, I hear from them within 24 hours. Even with covid going on and the holidays, I was getting somewhat better than expected contact in setting up and scheduling appointments.
The rekey was good. The second issue with the dryer worked out well too but it did take a little bit longer than I thought it would to receive the part. The heating mechanism in the dryer had been sitting at the service repair shop for almost a week before they contacted us. When they came over to fix and replace the heating element, they left the box with the tracking number. They received it the week before and they didn't contact us until the day before they scheduled the appointment to change the part so that was a little upsetting. But I understand that's outside of AHS's purview.
The washer was leaking and they've kicked the bucket on that saying that we needed to contact Maytag as there's a recall on that model. I understand if there's a recall on the parts, it's with the manufacturer, not them. But my biggest complaint is with the electricians that they hire. About December 30th, we had one electrician come and he was very inexperienced. He didn't know how to test the electrical panel properly and gave the opinion that one circuit was overloaded with too many outlets provided on it therefore any fix is excluded. I contacted a friend of mine who works in construction. He sent over an electrician that he works with normally. This electrician has years-plus experience and had a different opinion saying that all the breakers are bad and that they need to be replaced.
I spoke with AHS today and requested a second opinion. They said we could get one but they set up with another electrician from San Bernardino County. I don't get why they can't find anybody more local and closer, not 65, 70 miles away. Also, from reading the reviews, it doesn't seem like they were a very reputable company. It seems like they're beholden to AHS and will go along with whatever the original person found. I'm not keen on keeping this warranty particularly if I have to pay $75 for a service charge each time and nothing's going to be protected under the warranty. That's why I requested a cancellation and refund. I was transferred over to the cancellation department then hung up on. I was put on hold for a few minutes and the other line just disconnected. AHS is very easy to use but when it comes to usefulness of seeing through the issues, they're holding to their own self-interest.
John,

Our recent claim to American Home Shield was a long-drawn-out process. The heat went out on a Sunday night. We called American Home Shield and we got the Philippines, and they said, "Well, we'll put a rush on it." Nothing happened Sunday, and they said, "We can't find anybody." Then Monday, "We're working on it. It's a rush order." We must have called about six times and here we are, it was one of the coldest weeks of the fall so far and there is no heat in the house. We couldn't locate anybody.
Then finally, Monday at 9:30 at night, they told us to get our own contractor. We got a contractor who came within the hour. He identified the part immediately. He went out and got it. In the meantime, we got somebody on the phone from AHS, and I said, "Do we need a special work order or anything?" We had been given a second work order on Monday night from whoever we were talking to. We have all that documented. The woman we spoke with said, "No. Just go ahead and get it done." So, we did. We sent in a letter with the attachment of the cost of everything. We sent an email with the two PDFs of the bill itself and then the paid invoice. It was for $584.49. I wrote on there that we understood that we had a $75 service fee to pay through AHS, and we expected to be reimbursed for the remainder of it.
We also had a garbage disposal go and then our garage door went. We didn't even think to call AHS. We paid for that ourselves. We didn't put in the claim because we didn't do it ahead of time. Then we had a small thing go on the air conditioner. Since it was only $35 for the part, and we knew we had to pay for the service fee, we just took care of it ourselves. We never filed a claim for that either.
The technicians that were out for the recent claim were very professional. We would highly recommend it. They put covers on their shoes. They came within an hour of our phone call. They went out and got the part and were back in 20 minutes. We had the authorization to call them. They did a fantastic job. We don't know why AHS couldn't find anybody in this area because there are plenty of plumbing people in this area.
We're very dissatisfied at this point on this issue. When they did the garbage disposal, that worked out fine. That took over a week, but we didn't need that right away. We needed heat. And on this one, we went two days without heat. Then we were told, "Get your own person," which if they told us about in the beginning, we would have gone less than 24 hours without heat.
Now we haven't received any notification that they received our letter or that they were processing the claim. There's no communication. We don't want to badger them because it's only been since December and then there were the holidays. But right now, we just seem to have been getting, "Can't find anybody, can't find anybody, can't find anybody," and then be told, "Find your own person." Then after having to get this approval and that approval, there is another approval.

When the guy first came out for my refrigerator, he told me what needed to be done. American Home Shield told me, they would either pay me 800 or they would fix it. I told them to fix it. When the guy came out, all the parts didn’t come the second time, so he had to reorder that. Then that part came. The third time he came out, he put everything on it and he said the compressor didn’t have a fan. It didn’t come in the box and he had to order that. He said that would take about two months. He said it’s not worth fixing, not if all the stuff that he put on it is still not working. They decided to order me a new refrigerator. I’m happy with American Home Shield, for the most part, but I just was dissatisfied that it took so long to get a refrigerator. My refrigerator went out a week before Thanksgiving and I just got one last week.

Whenever I put my dishwasher on, there was water all over my floor and the cabinets. So I called American Home Shield and they picked the people that came out. They said they were gonna send somebody out, and they did. The owner of the contracted company came and he was very, very, very professional, and very Johnny-on-the-spot. He knew exactly what was the problem. He called the workers and they immediately fixed it. His company was very good. I would want that company all the time. They were very clean. They made sure that they put those little things on their shoes so they don't track. It was completely professional. They were very, very polite too. Once they left, everything was done. They knew exactly what they were doing. I was extremely impressed with the company. I really appreciated Home Shield. I was very, very pleased with what they did.

For the water heater, the technicians came out the very next day to make an assessment. They said it was bad and American Home Shield told me that I would have to pay $180 out of pocket for repiping. Once I told them that was okay, they ordered it and came out to replace it. That whole thing took about 30 minutes at most. It was a very quick turnaround time. There hasn’t been any kind of waiting.

I have a broken dishwasher for which I have been waiting for more than 2 months for repair. They assigned it to a local service provider who could not fix the issue. So far I have called them over 25 times and each time they say the same thing - "We are trying to connect with the service provider!!!" There is never a call back from the company to update on the status or by when they will fix the issue. The customer service just follows the script and tries to end the call with an excuse or transfer from desk to desk, never trying to actually fix the problem... Terrible experience!!! Worst service company ever!!!

My Titan water heater wasn't working and I needed a plumber. I had a whole two weeks of cold showers. The claim submission was prompt. The thing that made it so good was because it was during the holidays, so I understood the fact of Christmas and then New Year's, but in between that, the plumber was able to come out on Sunday. I was very pleased. He got everything done and he got away so my husband could watch the football game. I've had American Home Shield for years. My garbage disposal was leaking and making my AFI switch pop up. It was kicking the fuse and I couldn't use my sink at all. I set up an appointment with a tech. I spoke with him prior to his arrival to help him diagnose the issue. By what I was telling him about what the garbage disposal was doing, he had his suspicion. He came on Christmas Eve, looked at the garbage disposal to see if it was something he could repair. It was not. Part of the problem was it was leaking on the electrical. He made sure he had a replacement disposal with him and he replaced the unit. He was incredible. Everything has been working fantastically. The whole process with American Home Shield was really simple and I appreciate it.

I knew it was an easy fix, so I didn’t let the other guy come in that was training. Then he just took something and pushed dust through. He said there was dust that was preventing it to kick the blower on for the heater. It makes me sad as to how something so simple costs so much. But other than that, everything was fine. He was really nice and very professional so I appreciated that part.

I put in a claim for my dryer and the contractor was fine. Home Shield is normally really good about getting things taken care of. There was a delay on this dryer because they kept looking for the parts even though the contractor told them the parts were obsolete. I got online and looked for the parts. I found them through eBay. I called up Home Shield and told them where the parts could be located. But they said they could only buy the parts through their suppliers so they ended up having to replace the dryer. It took way over a month to get a replacement dryer.

I had a few things going on. My igniter switch for the burner was not working inside the stovetop. I also had a clog in my dishwasher drain. The hinge of one of the handles on my dishwasher was broken as well. It was easy to call American Home Shield and put a work order in. However, all of my work orders didn't get addressed. It was a nightmare. The whole call was a headache.
But the tech who came for my stove was awesome. He looked at the problem and did his job. He said he would put an igniter switch in. He was upfront with me and said, “It could be four days. It could be 20 days, given COVID. But as soon as I get the piece, know I'll be over here.” That sounded good. Five days later, he was in the neighborhood and swung by and put the part in. Only the stove was fixed and that was been working fine.
As for my dishwasher, I really needed it fixed. The problem had been going on for two and a half weeks and it was around holidays. I got on YouTube and I fixed the dishwasher myself. I think about this daily, do I still want to be with American Home Shield or not? I have a lot of things that happen in my house that are sometimes accidental and sometimes just wear and tear. American Home Shield would write me off and say it was misuse and abuse. They would justify that. But my appliances are really old.
The primary thing that I was calling for, which was the dishwasher being clogged, didn't get addressed. It wasn't even on the list of items. American Home Shield wouldn't even give me a reason why. They just wanted me to spend $75 and have somebody else come out again. What am I even paying the home warranty for? I started doing more research and found that you're better off if you just take the money you pay the home warranty and put it away. By doing that, I get to have more control over what contractor I want to come out and what they can do and not do versus the bogus gray areas in the contract regarding misuse and abuse versus wear and tear.
There is a pattern that contractors do. They come out and they say they can't fix the problem or they say they will come back. But they tell American Home Shield that the problem was because of misuse and abuse and that the appliance can't get fixed. That's really a shame. Regarding my dishwasher, I talked to five different people. I wanted to know what was going on with the dishwasher and why they weren't going to fix it. American Home Shield was going to call back and even get the diagnosis from the first company. I wanted to know how one misuses and abuses a burner because I wasn’t going to pay $75 to have somebody else come out again if they were going to tell me the exact same thing. I have all these on recordings. I waited for two weeks but nobody could give me any answer. It was crazy.
The second time when I talked to American Home Shield, I told them I would pay the $75 and do the second visit for my dishwasher. But I wanted to approve the person first. I wanted to read the reviews and kind of vet this person before I signed on. Overall, I'm pretty very dissatisfied. I don't understand why American Home Shield is still using these contractors that are not legit.
Another thing that I tried to address with American Home Shield is they have the wrong people to call if you're having issues with the contract. In 2018, I tried to talk to the cancellation department to tell them that they needed to update their contracts. I got the contract in 2020. This was no longer the correct information. The lady I was talking to got really nasty with me when I told her I was recording our phone conversations for my record. She told me that was illegal, which I knew was not correct because they were even recording it for their purposes. It wasn't a private conversation. The lady hung up the phone on me.

Sears came out when they said they were coming out and they fixed the issue. They were very professional. When they first came out they had to order parts and then they weren't able to get out until a week or two later. But everything went fine. We were pleased with the service from Sears. But American Home Shield should have better customer service.
I've been trying to get some of my money back for claims that I've paid the $100 on, and I never got any calls from anybody. When you try to call American Home Shield, you have to wait about an hour on the phone. Most of the time, you don’t have an hour to wait for somebody to come online. So American Home Shield's piece is mediocre. Sometimes it's not even worth having. They should have more staff to answer phone calls so customers aren’t waiting 30 minutes to an hour. We have property down in Florida, and the people that they contract out of Florida are terrible. We still haven't had things fixed for us down there.

American Home Shield is not bad. It's kind of weird. They're up and down. On some things, they're really good. Then on some things, they're lacking. I had an issue with a sink that had a leak underneath the sink. The way their policy reads is it covers the sinks and leaks. Apparently, they had plastic lines on them, and they were gradually going one by one. One line went. The plumber that came saw that one line was leaking, replaced that one line, but didn't check any other lines. Within a couple of weeks, the other line started leaking. He went back and then said, "Oh, well, this line is not leaking anymore. It's another line. So, now you gotta call in again for another service call and another service fee." But it's all on the same sink. So, it's like some of the contractors work with American Home Shield. They call them, and it's like they work together on trying to get you to have to pay extra service fees on the same item.
Then within another month, pretty much almost all of the plastic lines in the house were leaking. I went and checked all of them and noticed they all had leaks, then I called them. They came and fixed one service call, and then they fixed them all. I'm not really sure how much is that communication between the technician of the company and American Home Shield because when I called for the second one, I used a different company. The first company was Advanced Home Services. Every time I have them come out, I have some sort of issue. They always seem to try to incur more costs.
One incident a couple of years ago, I had one from Advanced Home Services try to tell me that this whole pipe needed replaced because it had a fitting on it that I tried to do myself. He said, "Oh, this whole thing has to be replaced." I said, "Why don't I just push it in?" He just looked at me with this blank look on his face. I just pushed it in all the way. That was the problem. It wasn't shoved in all the way. It was a quick disconnect that wasn't pushed in all the way. But he tried to get me to have to replace the whole thing.
I said I didn't want Advanced Home Services anymore. Whenever I went to do a service request online, they used to have a option where it would give you four people to choose from, and I would always stay away from Advanced Home Services. I would always use Air Pro Master. The last few times I've used it, that option is gone. So, whoever is just assigned to me. They assigned me Advanced Home Services, so I ended back up with them again. I said, "Well, it's been like over a year. Let me try them again." Their guy came out and I had the same kind of problem.
Air Pro Master is who I used the latest time. Their technicians come out and they look for what's wrong. It seems like if they went under the sink, they would check both to see if they're leaking. I've never had a problem with Air Pro Master. I told AHS, "Don't ever send Advanced Home Services to any of my properties again." I have three policies with them on three different houses.

It's super simple submitting a claim to American Home Shield. I either do it online or call and it's so easy. They’re quick with responding. We called American Home Shield and filed a claim for our oven. I told them what code was flashing. A tech guy came out. That probably took two weeks or longer. The guy communicated that he would be there in 30 minutes. He got there and looked at the oven. He then said that he doesn't carry parts in his truck, which I wasn't impressed with. But that was okay. He said he happened to have a spare one. We put it in and it worked. The guy then said there was another problem and it was with the element. He was gonna order me a new one and have it shipped in.
The guy came back out and when he lifted up the stovetop portion, some wires touched and sparks flew. It was a mess. Ever since he came out, my oven has been blowing cold air out the sides of the doors. It's kind of scary because it makes me wonder if it has a short. I called the guy back and he came back out. But he didn’t have the parts to fix the oven. He said he was gonna leave it in American Home Shield’s lap. They could either get us a new oven or fix the one we have. I then said to him, “When you came out, my husband said that there was some kind of short. And we feel like this is why it's acting this way.” He said no. The thermostat was going out. The code is still flashing in the oven and it's the same one that was flashing months ago when the guy originally came.
The guy told us he was going to order the parts and that he could come back out on the 29th of December. The parts never came. Shipping has been a little crazy and I understand, but I get no communication whatsoever. He even gave me a cell phone number and I texted him following up on the parts. I got nothing. I called American Home Shield and I stayed on hold with for 59 minutes. The rep told me she had met her maximum wait time and couldn't help me. She would escalate the claim to get the issue taken care of. I was a little disappointed in that but I understood. Things happen. But I haven't heard back from anybody on the escalated claim. I have an oven that I haven't been able to use for months. I'm nervous that there's a short back there and something's going to catch on fire. You cannot stand in front of my oven because it blows cold air out around every section of my oven.
I also called American Home Shield on New Year's Eve and put in a claim for my garbage disposal. K & S Plumbing called me on New Year's Day and scheduled the appointment for that following Monday. They came out and fixed everything right away. On the whole, I don’t have a problem with American Home Shield. They were nice when I called them. But I’m having a problem with who they contract with.

I haven’t been satisfied with the time it takes to get service with American Home Shield. Typically, it’s at least six days before somebody can get out. Sometimes, it’s longer than that and when you have a problem with a stove not working or a refrigerator broken or something else with the heat going out, you don't want to wait for six days before you can get it fixed. Particularly, a lot of times, the contractor comes out and says that you need a part and they don’t have it so they will have to order and will see you in a couple of weeks when the part comes in. That’s my biggest complaint. There needs to be a way that the contractors that are lined up have a commitment that they will make a service call within 24 to 48 hours maximum.
American Home Shield should provide the opportunity to get more detail about what the problem is in their online request for service and then, that needs to get to the contractor before they come out. All they really tell is what kind of an appliance it is and that doesn’t tell the contractor anything. You need to know the brand, model number and exactly what is wrong. The contractor can be selected that knows that brand, knows what parts go with that model number and potentially can bring out what they need.
The service needs to be quicker and it needs to be set up so that there's more detailed information that can be put online that will be given to the contractor before they're selected to come out. Apart from that, I've kept the service. The only other major competitor here, which is First American Warranty, has exactly the same problem. I have experiences with both of them and they both have delays. They both don't give enough detail about what the issue is such that the contractor can be targeted.
Hi Charles,
I hate to hear about your most recent service experience and the unresolved issues. I would be glad to speak with you and get the issues resolved.

That was my first experience with the company.
There was one issue with my upstairs heating system, too. Because of what the tech said, AHS declined to fix my air conditioner. I’ve been in a cold house since then. I'm glad my kids are grown. I've been using heaters trying to stay warm. When AHS declined to fix it, they only checked upstairs and they gave a report about something about the line. I don't know what they wrote in the report but they didn’t get fixed. It makes me wonder if I want to redo my contract.
I still have a faucet issue where the plumbers came out. The sink part, three people came out to try to fix it. None of them could fix it because they said it was an issue with the sink. What I understood was if something was broken, they would fix it but when they said it was an issue of where or something, AHS decided that I have to pay $180. When I signed on to them, it was said that they replace the things that are broken, but they would not replace it.

Price Right came out three times. When they first came out, the dishwasher had a leak and they fixed it. I called for that and the pipe. The service gentleman went into the bathroom. He said, "Here's your problem. In your bathroom, your toilet is busted. You'll need a new toilet to cut the water off." He did his normal routine. We thought that was it. I called back after more than five days and I was like, "That water is still leaking. My carpet in my bedroom is soaking wet. And that water, it must have been from somewhere else.” But the toilet was cracked and my husband replaced the toilet and took up the tile. That helped.
I called them again. They came out to look. They were like, "Well, none of this stuff that the previous guy did, all that stuff is fixed." They wanted to see this pipe. So when they came out and saw the pipe, they were like, "Oh, this is the whole another thing Miss **. This has nothing to do with what they did." So then, I called again to get an order so I can pay the copay because the other one was a recall. And that's when they determined, "Oh, no, this had nothing to do with what the other service guys did." This time my husband was home. We did the order. I paid the other $100. And then they were like, "Okay, so we'll look at it."
So then the service gentlemen were here, but they couldn't do any work because the order had not went into the office. They were like, "Well, we need the dispatch." I called the office, "We need the dispatch." I said, "They're standing in front of me." "Well, we can't do nothing till we get the order." So, they had to leave.
They came back the next day because the order was finally dispatched. But when they got out here, at least, they knew what to do because they already looked at it. They were like, "Well, we know what to do, but we technically can't do no work until we get the order." I was like, "We understand that. No biggie." He said, "Your first call if your husband was home, he would have led us straight to the pipe, but he didn't. You were here and you assumed this was what was going on. But truth be told, it was good, it's in your favor because we did fix two things. We fixed the dishwasher and suggested to you what to do with the toilet, replacing the toilet." They would charge me 285 to do it. But my husband was like, "Oh, I know how to do that. That's no biggie." So he went did the toilet.
But the third time they came in, I called in and they had the order. They finally got the order. So the guys came in, this time they had to cut a hole in the wall. And then they had to go and get a pipe. They had to install a pipe. And they had to dig outside. They had to cut a hole. The hole is still in the wall. They said they would come back and plaster the wall. But they finally fixed it. It was two hours later, they fixed it. And my husband was like, "Well, I could go in there and fix it." I was like, "I already paid them."
But after the copay, then they said, "This would be $185." So when my husband gave them $185, then they went and fixed the pipe. We got the receipt and everything on the refrigerator. My husband followed them. He knew what they were doing. They were like, "Thank you Mister **." I was like, "Just let them do what they do." But they did everything and did everything right. The only thing is, nobody has called me back to say when they would plaster our wall back. They said that was covered since we gave them the 185. Other than that, they did a good job. I was proud of them. They were so friendly and very understanding. So, I was happy with them. I was like, "Honey, even if something happens, we're gonna have to use them again."

I called American Home Shield to submit a claim. They told me that somebody will call. Re-Plumb Plumbing came out and they were professional. I would recommend that people use American Home Shield. I haven't had any problem with them. I had them previously, and then we ended up using somebody else, but then I had to go back to American Home Shield.

My dryer was making an awful noise and it didn't even want to dry clothes. It was terrible. Submitting a claim to Home Shield is easy. I get on the app and after clicking on a couple of buttons, I'm done. The service company called me the next day. A tech came out there right away and got the dryer fixed. They did a real good job and it was a great experience. It's been a pleasure doing business with Home Shield and I'll continue to keep it going. I would suggest getting a home warranty. American Home Shield has been a good one for me so I recommend them.
Thanks for sharing you experience and thanks for recommending us.
