Our heating system wasn't working. The tech that was sent was great. But I'm still waiting to hear back from AHS about a claim that was never completed two years ago. I have called 20 times about it.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Please reach out to us if you need assistance with an open request and will will be happy to assist you.

Accord Appliance came out for an issue with my refrigerator. Accord is always wonderful. That's a good reason why we go with American Home Shield because Accord has been fixing appliances for the years we've had the home warranty. I'm extremely happy with American Home Shield and I recommended it to everybody I talked to.

We had inconsistent hot and cold water when showering. The guy came out and checked around the area. He drained the water heater, did something else and resolved the problem. AHS did a real good job. The response time was good. They sent out a good person to fix it and we’re happy.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

The website of AHS was simple and easy. When I submitted a claim, they told me online that somebody will call within one to two days. It was a weekend when I put a claim in, so the tech called on Monday and he came right on out and did it exactly when he said he would in the time. The tech did everything he had to do and he explained everything nicely. He was very professional. Everything's been wonderful since the tech came out.
Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated. Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

My refrigerator was constantly leaking and there was water all over the floor. The service tech took out something that he thought was causing the problem. He tried to order a replacement for whatever the part was. He came back and he told us that the part was outdated. Since they couldn't get the part, American Home Shield would have to replace the refrigerator. The process took a long period of time. We decided that they were going to get a voucher from Lowe's but somehow, we kept missing on the voucher. I thought it was coming from Lowe's but it was actually coming through another type of deal. I got the voucher and I have replaced my refrigerator.
Thanks for sharing your experience. We appreciate it.

I had someone come out for our furnace and it went well. I was in Oklahoma when the service happened and I really appreciated it when somebody showed up and took care of business while I wasn't there. My wife was at the house and she said everything went well. She was happy. I've been in my house for almost 30 years. AHS has been the only people I've ever had for the whole time I've been there. I do the $75 thing with them and I think it's good. The only other service provider that could beat AHS is Sears as they have a better warranty as far as covering all of my appliances. It'd be nice if AHS added freezers to the appliances they cover and still have us staying at the $75 on the low end. They would probably get some business.
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

This company deserves a negative 10! It all sounds great on the website, the process for choosing your plan is clear, the sign up process is easy and quick. But then, you're stuck. I originally chose the monthly installments, only to discover the first $170 vs $50 something, withdrawn from my bank account. When I called to address the issue, they insisted I had chosen this plan, but they would be happy to rearrange the payment plan. Sounds professional, right? Of course a transfer to another department... After repeating the entire scenario, they too said they could reset the agreement...
BUT...before I did that...was I sure I wanted to give up the perks of paying in 3 installments...there's goes another 15 min of conversation. Because I had no real warning signs at the time, and the benefits were better on the 3 install plan, I opted to stay on the plan I had supposedly chosen. Ok, all fine at this point. Little mishap...solved... moving on... I made my first claim (I'd already paid somewhere around $340) for my main fridge not cooling. I called, gave them info and they put me in "the queue" with another department to find a contractor. I did get an email the next day reporting a contractor had accepted the job, which I was very grateful for as I was on vacation, and had guests in my home.
The morning of the repair came, and I contacted the contractor directly to give directions. At first, they knew nothing of the job, and after 3 phone calls later, they informed me they had cancelled the job because I was not in their region. So, I called AHS, the ENTIRE PROCESS started over! Back in the queue, waiting for up to 48 hrs before a contractor could be assigned. NOTE: The claims department (overseas) does NOT have the ability to call out, meaning they can't jump on the phone and help find contractors in your area.
But, I was told, as sweet as pie, that I could reach out and find my own contractor, as long as they were licensed, all I had to do was pay upfront, submit the invoice to them, and I would be reimbursed minus my $60 service fee. At this point, I had no other choice, so after about 6 straight hours on the phone, during my beach vacation, I found a contractor. Fortunately, he was able to go right away. I explained that I would need an invoice for reimbursement, Within 2 days of fixing the relay switch, I had the invoice, and emailed it in. I was told it would take 7-14 days, after being reviewed, for me to receive the reimbursement.
After about 3 weeks, I called in to check on the status. It was then I was told the invoice was not itemized correctly. It needed 4 steps: What was wrong, the suggested fix, the fix, and the amount. My invoice said, broken relay switch, replaced relay switch, and the cost. No reimbursement because "the suggested fix" wasn't listed. Although the problem and the solution makes the suggested fix a moot point. So, I went back to the contractor and had to ask for another invoice. Emailed that in... Another 3 weeks passed, no word, no check... I called again, and was then told, they couldn't find his license number in their system. No reimbursement. No more avenues for me to pursue.
Being that it had been July with the refrigerator, and maybe all their contractors were busy...I decided to hold on to the policy. Made a claim for my dryer not heating (now had paid for the entire year in advance). Same process began, back in the queue, never did receive an email confirming a contractor had accepted the job, just emails saying they were still waiting for a response... At this point, I decided to cancel the policy and request a refund. Turns out, which is why you shouldn't waste one minute of your time on this company, it DID NOT matter that they had never found a contractor for either claim, never paid a dime towards a claim, or that I had lost hours and hours of time arranging my own repair after paying them upfront, their "company policy" was to prorate the refund.
I spent more hours on the phone, asking for every manager, supervisor etc...until I supposedly reached the decision maker regarding refunds in NY. What a jerk! He was neither polite or professional.. Basically told me there was nothing I could do, or he could do. 8 weeks later I finally got a check for a little over $300, a little more than half of what I had paid up front, and never received ANY benefits! It's a TOTAL SCAM!!!!!! They don't care once they have your money. It's cheaper to find your own contractor, or look up instructional videos on YouTube (I fixed my own dryer for $26 and 2 hrs of learning time). Worst company I've come across in years!
Serenity,
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We do apologize that this request has caused you to cancel your warranty. Your feedback is important and we look forward to your possible joining the AHS team in the future. Have a great day!

I live in a primary residence and I have a rental property. I have AHS for both properties. I recently rented out the rental property. I did not have any issue with it for the past 10 years when I was living in the condo myself. But I bought American Home Shield in case something goes wrong, and especially when you're giving it out to a third party, you want to have that coverage. Then the renters called me on December 23rd and said that the heat was not working. It was a cold week. So I put a request in with AHS. Immediately, they sent us somebody from Pinnacle.
The tech came, looked at it and he said the fan was broken. But he had to order the part. It was a very old unit. We were waiting for that part to come for a couple of days. He said it's gonna come on 24th, but there was Christmas time. There were delays. Finally, on the 28th, they had it. Soon as that they had it, they said they were gonna come by and fix it. He got the job done in an hour and he showed me the broken part of the fan. I was happy I had AHS. I wouldn't know what's wrong and I wouldn't have been able to fix it that quickly. They responded really well and the person who came was very knowledgeable too.
That portion worked out really beautifully with Pinnacle, in that property. But in my older home, the tech had to come three different times. We were dealing with a very old unit. It was a wall gas heater. There was no consensus initially and we had to have some training too. We didn't know how to turn it on. So the tech had to come a second time to show us. Ultimately, we replaced it because there was a storm and it was just too old. They promised to do a replacement, but we cashed out on that because we went to a better system. We did a split system, which was much more expensive. That was done all fine. But it would be nice, especially with the older systems, if they gave some training when they came the first time and explained a little bit more about what was going on.
The first time I called, they couldn't even understand what I wanted. There were a few communication issues over there. But then when they figured it out and then the right person came, we were able to discuss what was going on and replaced it. If you're in New England with a new home or we repurchased this 90-year-old property and if you didn't know the system or you're renting and you don't know a lot of technical detail on how the HVAC works, it's really good to have that coverage. I was so happy I had done that. I'll definitely recommend AHS.
Thanks for sharing you experience and thanks for recommending us.

Good program. Good coverage. Easy claim process as long as you have no questions. I've been real happy with coverage overall, but trying to get anyone on the phone when there is a question or need to schedule a different service provider is the closest thing to impossible that I ever want to experience. Over an hour wait time for a person to get on the line. If it's a simple issue that can be handled via their online system they're pretty good.

The water heater wasn't set in place right, so you couldn't adjust it. I just straight up don't want to deal with third party to get stuff done. So if I'm dealing with this right now, that's more hassle than I need, period. I want to be able to just call my repairman, have him come out fix whatever it is I needed fixed. And if that means I gotta pay for it, I don't care. I know how to pick up the phone, look through the phone book, and call out a repairman to fix stuff. And going back and forth with some third party to try to sort this stuff out is just more than I care to mess with.
We just bought the house and the first year of it came with the American Home Shield warranty. It's also my understanding that we have to work through the warranty in order for it to stay valid. That's why I have such an issue with it. Because so far, from the garbage disposal and the other thing, and for starters, the Rooter people came out and they were like, “Yeah, we can replace your garbage disposal,” which I kind of anticipated that to begin with. But had they not said that they would have paid for it, I would have upgraded and got away with using the crap they brought me. And I'm assuming if I want to replace the water heater, I would probably want to upgrade it too. Go to whatever. I don't want to mess with it. I don't want to mess with it now and I didn't want to mess with it then.

I have submitted claims to American Home Shield over the phone and online, and it’s a little easier to do it online. One of the claims I did was on a Sunday, so it was hard to get ahold of someone. But when I spoke with the reps, they answered all my questions and tried to explain everything. The water line that comes from the city has a valve right before the meter. That valve controls the pressure that comes into the house and it was malfunctioning. The technician came, evaluated the problem and fixed it. He was professional and he explained the situation. AHS did a good job. The experience was easy, convenient and fast.

American Home Shield has always been good in a timely manner. Everything has been great when submitting the claim. The first time that we had to call, it was over the holiday and they got someone out to take care of it within 24 hours. We had company coming in and it was great. But we still have an open claim for a tankless water heater. It works most of the time, but it's shooting up a code and will stop working.
The first technician that AHS sent out said that we needed a whole new system. So American Home Shield wanted a second opinion and they sent someone else who serviced it. But we still have been having the same issues. But that was not American Home Shield's fault. In the area that we're in, those tankless water heaters aren't very common. So, they're having to send someone that's 100 miles away. Getting that scheduled with the contractor has been a hassle. It’s Jamco Plumbing and they're supposed to call us to set up this next appointment. So we're just waiting to hear from them.

I was having issue with the water heater and the contractor came right away and fixed it. The only problem I do have is that they never gave me a copy of the permit. I also didn't like the fact that a lot of it wasn't covered. It seems like there were a lot of loopholes but when I signed up, AHS made it seem like everything's covered. It was kind of a little frustrating with that aspect. They should be more lenient as far as what they're gonna cover. If they're gonna cover something, they might as well give the customer what they need.

I have an induction cooktop range and the thermostat was not working accurately because things were undercooking. The Sears technician was on time. He respected all the COVID restrictions so I appreciated that. He was very clean, and he had on boots and mask. I asked him to use some hand sanitizer when he came in, which he did. When he pulled the range away from the wall because it's a freestanding range, he noticed that there was debris left back there from when the backsplash was installed. So, he was kind enough to pull the range out far enough so that I could vacuum back there because I tend to be a bit of a neat freak. That was very nice of him. Other than that, he went about doing his work.
He spent quite a bit of time checking and rechecking the stove. When he was done, he told me that he checked it four times and that the temperature would not be exactly what 350 would be like but it was in a range from 340 to 355, and he said that was perfectly normal. So, there wasn't anything that needed doing. Nothing was broken. He wasn't very talkative. He didn't give me any explanation as he was going along but he explained these things to me when he was finished. I would have appreciated more explanation as he was going along rather than just waiting until the end so I could have asked him more specific questions as he was doing it. But aside from that, it was satisfactory. I've been using the stove but I still have to do what I was doing before which is double-checking to see if it's cooked thoroughly when the time recommended has expired.
When I started with American Home Shield a couple of years ago, it was $75 per call and the cost to me was $45. But now, the cost has gone up considerably. I don't recall getting a notice that it was going to go up. The cost of the visits has doubled. So as I do my taxes this year, I'll look at how many times I've called them and what they've done to see if, economically, there's a point where I decide to pay for the repair rather than paying for the insurance. I don't have that many calls, I have all-new appliances and it may not be worthwhile for me to have the service at this point in time.

Our basement flooded. There was a sewage backup due to an improperly graded pipe that is under the foundation of the house. The service people were good. They did everything that they could without destroying my basement and laying in a new pipe. American Home Shield said, however, that this was not covered. The service people were able to clear the blockage. But they assessed that the pipe was the problem. Three of my four neighbors all have the same problem.
This claim happened back in July. We've been back and forth with American Home Shield as well as with our insurance company. We're trying to figure out what the appropriate way forward is. On the whole, I'm pretty satisfied with American Home Shield. They’ve done a bunch of other stuff for us. The only thing is I wish they would handle emergency repairs differently. When our basement flooded, the scheduling was pretty good. But it is usually three to four days from the time that we make the initial claim.

My heating system wasn't working correctly. The first time I called was in December and AHS sent Best Choice out. They charged me $432.25 for 9 pounds of Freon. The tech said that American Home Shield only pays $10 per pound. But then, I realized that he didn't take off the $10. The tech said that American Home Shield would pay them $10 and I would pay $35. Instead, I paid the whole $45.
I called back AHS on January the 11th in reference to the HVAC system again. Today, I called them again. They did a second re-call for Best Choice but I have not heard back from them. I explained to the AHS rep that Best Choice can't handle the job be for them not to want to come back or call me after a second call. Also, I have been ripped off $433 for the Freon. I'm suspicious of having them come here to do anything because I feel they may not know what they're doing. American Home Shield put call in to Best Choice and emailed them to communicate. They were supposed to report back to AHS about their findings. When I spoke to AHS's rep today, it didn't appear they had responded. AHS needs to get some reliable people who really know what they're doing. I'm not getting good service.

The heating element of my dryer went out. I made an appointment for service and it took the company a little bit to come out because of COVID. Some of their workers had a possible exposure. It took a good two weeks or a little over that to have somebody out to get the dryer fixed. In that retrospect, that was a little inconvenient. But at the same time, I try to be patient being as the country is at a loss with this COVID stuff. There's nothing American Home Shield can do or not do there.
For the most part, anytime I called American Home Shield, somebody was usually in the property within a week's timeframe. Sometimes, technicians would come out two or three days later. The normal timeframe is about three days. I have waited a week or sometimes a little over. Depending on what the issue is, it could be good or bad. There were times where my plumbings went down and I couldn't use the toilet. I was told to shut everything down. Luckily, I have two other bathrooms in my house. But if I had just one bathroom in my house, I would be at a loss. If somebody was in that predicament, that may hurt that person.
American Home Shield doesn't really have any control over the external contracts that they contract out to and their schedules. Unless American Home Shield has an in-house person that they could automatically dispatch, there is nothing they can do as a company other than trying to contract with different people that say they could be there within 24 to 48 hours. But schedules come up and there is really no definitive on that.
Other than that, everybody has been good. I had some contractors come out for the same thing before and say that the contractor before did a roundabout job to try to get the job done. The initial contractor took shortcuts and the second contractor wouldn't have done it that way. Hearing that as a client, you would think, “That's not great that somebody kind of shortchanged me. Glad I got the right guy in this time.” This is something American Home Shield can't really do something about because they don't know who the people that they contract with would be sending out. You just hope that who they're sending is reputable.
If I had a legitimate complaint about a contractor, I would try to handle it at my level with that contractor. If not, then I would probably reach out to that company that sent them first. If I can't get anywhere there, I would contact American Home Shield. I haven't really had an issue major like that before. American Home Shield replaced everything from my HVAC to my hot water heater.
I have had contractors say, "If this thing is not completely broken, or at least we don't write it up that way, American Home Shield won't cover it.” As a consumer, you'd look at that and be like, “This thing's not working. You've been out here a few times. I don't want to just fix it. I want a new one.” Some of the contractors are honest. For my HVAC and my hot water heater, they told me straight up, “We're gonna have to write it up this way in order to get you a replacement or the company will not accept it.” At least the contractors know how to do a workaround.
I've checked other companies and their rates. I saw that American Home Shield offers a lot more than some of the traditional home warranty companies. We're building another home and although I won't need a home warranty right off the bat, it definitely interests me to keep American Home Shield on that home. If I rent my current home out, I'm keeping the home warranty on as well. Essentially, it would be a nice security blanket to know that if something breaks, I don't have to shell out thousands of dollars for my tenant. I can call American Home Shield and get that handled.

I made a claim for American Home Shield to fix the faucet in my kid's bathroom, the sink, and the shower. We also had some plumbing issues in our bathroom and kitchen. They reach out to me and I hear back from them pretty quickly. They care about their customers. Recently, I had an appliance repair claim and the guy told me my unit was old and something had burned out. He said he would end up doing a buyout because they couldn't find the part. I was notified by AHS that they could send me a brand new unit without any cost. They told me which unit was recommended. I chose that one and it was delivered. I have recommended them to people at my job.

There's been prompt service and good people that are either electricians or plumbers who come out. They seem honest and reliable. I've had some of my appliances replaced even when they couldn't be fixed. I don't know if my friends have jumped on the bandwagon but I am very vocal, either positive or negative. It didn't go too well with American Home Shield in the beginning. The first person who came to look at my appliance really didn't. They just went off of what I told them then left. He was in my home every bit of two minutes and said that the item couldn't be repaired because he couldn't find the model number on my appliance. From there, I was waiting for something to come back from American Home Shield but I never got anything. When I looked online, it said that things were processing. Finally, I gave AHS a call and they said they were waiting on a part. I asked them how they could be waiting on a part when the tech didn't even look at anything. The part was two weeks out but had I not called, I would have never known.
I called the company that was doing the repair and they had me slated for after the holidays. But then, the lady I was speaking with said “you’ve been calling about this for a while now. If I can get you in, I’m gonna get you in.” She got me in a couple of days before the holidays and things ended well. I just wasn't used to my overall experience with the response. Usually, everything is crystal clear in the beginning.
AHS's contractor also came out for a plumbing issue. The guy told me all this major work that needed to be done and he couldn't do it. He had to send something to AHS. On my own, I just called the plumber out and it was just a little pipe that they ended up fixing. AHS is normally responsive but my last two experiences have been very disappointing.

Home Shield is effective when you need it. I've had two experiences with them in three months and they've been good. They've had people out right away. When we first moved in, our water heater broke. Recently, we just moved into a new house and I had a three-year contract with another heating and cooling company in the area for my older house. When the person came and checked, he said, "Your heater is really bad. There's high levels of carbon monoxide escaping and you need a new furnace." The guy said that if the number is 30 or above, it's 30 million per parts. I freaked out.
I called American Home Shield then Budget came out and they said, "No, the numbers that guy said are way off." They said, "We use 100 million per parts." If it's 50 per part for an hour, that's when a carbon monoxide detector would go off. They didn't have the machine to measure it, but they offered to come back out and I said, "I'm not worried if you're not." Budget was awesome and I really liked them. They handled the job very well and I thought the guy was super honest. I also feel like the first heating and cooling company was just trying to sell us a new furnace because the furnace we have now is 22 years old.

My daughter-in-law recommend to go to Home Shield when I bought the house because I had a warranty before and they were very, very nasty. I will never invite anybody to them. But I will recommend Home Shield to anybody that needs warranty for their house. Their contractor person will call you back and will let you know when they come and what time they come in, or if they've been delayed. That makes it so sweet about Home Shield because they keep in contact with the client and let them know about the contractor.
The young man from CK Appliance was very pleasant and professional. He did his job and when he finished, I loved it. The most important thing was he took his time to explain what was what. So far, each technician that have been out here explained what they had to do when they had to fix something. Everything has been right until the refrigerator claim because we have this virus and the rep told me that so many refrigerators were breaking down. I had to wait for almost three weeks. So in the meantime, my family brought food over and cooked for us.

It started leaking in my ceiling. It came through my bathroom upstairs, and the tech found out it was under the sink. Something was loose in there. The sink has a pipe, and there was a hole where the pipe goes. So, the leak was running down the pipe down the line through the wall. That was why it started leaking in my bedroom. Now, I have a ceiling mess. It was on the carpet, too. Thank goodness I don't have hardwood floor.
The tech was very personable. He came in, then said, “Wait a minute. I think I know what it is.” I said, “Look, I put a pan when I found out that something was leaking.” It took three days for them to come out. I said, “Lord, it ain't gonna leak some more?” He told me to leave the pan under there for a couple more days to make sure it didn’t leak. I left it under there for a week, and it didn't leak. He said he tightened this up enough. We don’t know how it got untightened. We don’t go up under that sink. That’s an extra sink in a bonus room. We just use the toilet and wash our hands.
So far, I'm okay with American Home Shield. I’m getting ready to come up on the renewal. I've been seeing people give negative comments, but I've seen them give negative comments about anybody. So, it doesn’t matter. I’ve had to use it, unfortunately, more than I expected to when you purchase a home, and I’ve not had a problem. We needed to replace the dishwasher, which I could care less because I don’t need one anyway. But they did. So, I got a new dishwasher out of the deal here. Only thing they can improve is to keep their rates. They can go up 1% if the cost of living goes up 1%, but they shouldn't go up 1% because they want to.

The challenge I have is that many of their phone agents have accents as if they're not from here. It takes a whole lot of time trying to explain to them what the situation is. One time, I got one person who did not have a foreign accent. It seemed like they have formed out all of their calls out of the country, and it’s very frustrating.
My air conditioning was not working when the summer was at the height in July. AM PM came out several times to try to fix it, and they did not fix it properly. They were unprofessional and they didn’t know what they were doing. I was very upset with AHS on that incident. They had a bad contractor and I recommended them not to use those people ever again. It also took four months to get them to pay me the money that they were due me. But then, had I not had them, I would have had to pay market price for minimal repairs. Something happened with our heat last week and AHS sent a professional who found the problem.

I had that week off between Christmas and New Year and I was hoping somebody could come.
The AHS representative helped me a lot in terms of trying to find a place and a time that worked. So, that was super because in the past, they were not very helpful in that regard. You get what you get. But in this case, they listened. I was being reasonable too. I didn't say that the next week was not okay but it was just that it would be much restrictive. I would have to see which day it was in that week that I'm off. It couldn't be any time. The AHS representative helped me on that end. So, we couldn't wait for American Home Shield to get us somebody and the parts, I had it right here. We had permission to get Ventis to fix it and they fixed it. But so far, American Home Shield owes us over $2,000 and they haven't paid us. We sent all the paperwork to American Home Shield and then they said they never received it. I have a copy of that email. I emailed it again and they said they never received it. I just emailed it again. We sent everything they ever asked for. And so, we haven't heard back from them about that.
In the meantime, another part had broken. One piece came out. They put something in which we paid for. We're not asking for Home Shield to do anything about that. But then, Ventis said we needed a new air conditioner. But we called American Home Shield and told that we wanted them to check this issue out. So, we gave the $75 to American Home Shield and had ACE Cooling check it out. So American Home Shield was very good and they answered, and sent ACE straight out which we would be switching to from Ventis.
The gentleman from Ace that came out was extraordinarily nice. But there wasn't anything he could do at that point because the air conditioning was already working. But it might just be temporarily working. So he told me to just call them back if it was not working within 30 days. I was extraordinarily impressed this second time that we used AHS. I had a leak and a stopped up bathtub. The process of submitting a claim wasn't difficult at all. I was told to expect the plumber from Brick Street Plumbing between 8:00 and 12:00. He called me and he came out pretty much on time. He unclogged the bathtub and then he fixed a leak that I had right there in the valve where I'd turn the water on and off.
The only downfall I had with my American Home Shield was with the hot water tank claim. The contractor wanted me to spend something like $2,400 because my flute and stuff wasn't up to code. I waited four days for the guy to come out and then on top of that, once he got out here, he wanted $2,065. Then he was charging me $295 for something that I already had on hand. When I told AHS what was going on, their rep said that if I didn't have the money to pay the amount to bring it up to code, I could get it myself and they would reimburse me for it.
I got a hot water tank and put it in myself. That was about three months ago. When the guy from Brick Street Plumbing came out here, he looked at it and said that I was being charged for stuff I already have. He also said that he was glad that I put it in by myself 'cause the first guy was getting ready to rip me off. But everything is working now.
Now, I'm trying to figure out how can get the hot water tank reimbursed. I want AHS to just take the water heater off because I'm not gonna give anybody $2,065 just to put knobs and pipes on. Then one of them is a flute that goes into the chimney. It's a three-inch but the code is a four-inch. I can do that myself. But the guy wants $450 to do that. But now, AHS is trying to tell me that because I'm not licensed, they can't pay me for it. That's what's taking me so long to get it because they want somebody that's licensed so they can cover the hot water tank again. But they don't even have to cover it anymore. That's supposed to have been grandfathered in because this house was built in 1956. My mom and I have been living in this house for 35 years and the water heater has been working just fine.

It was the first time I ever used American Home Shield and I didn't know if a credit card was needed, so I called them and it was a pretty simple process. They were really friendly and they asked me if I had any questions, and they were patient.

There was a leaky bathroom shower faucet and the plumber was able to fix it same day. The guy was actually nice enough to show my husband what exactly was wrong. So the next time it happens, my husband can just do it himself.
The claim submission is fine if you're computer savvy and you're able to do it online, and you know what's wrong, what you need and who you need. But if there's an issue and you have to talk to somebody, it's a total nightmare. This summer, we thought we had a possible pool leak and I wasn't sure who to call to detect it. I called every day for three days straight and waited on the phone for hours. Finally, I just gave up and called the plumber out who couldn't find a leak. He suggested that American Home Shield should call a pool guy type thing. But I was upset because it was costing me $75 each time. Luckily, the issue ended up not being anything.
My air conditioner was broken this summer. I live in Arizona. So it was 100 and something degrees and I had to go to a hotel. I couldn't figure out if it was considered an emergency. But the contractor wouldn't come out for two days. I couldn't get anyone out. I still don't know if I will be reimbursed for the hotel fees 'cause it's totally normal for it to happen like that in Arizona. But we had someone come out and check before it would get hot to make sure everything was working.
It's really difficult to get ahold of somebody from American Home Shield. They should be able to have someone available to talk to even at different times if they're loaded with calls. But they did at one point reimburse one of the $75 charges for the plumber after I sent them a nasty Facebook message. But no one ever called.
There are going to be things that aren't covered if American Home Shield considers that you have not kept up with the general maintenance of items. We had an issue with our pool at some point when we moved in. The foundation was cracked. It was a concrete slab that held all of the pool equipment. Since that was cracked, they wouldn't pay for the repair because it was considered something that was preexisting and that crack was what could have caused whatever was wrong. They still charged the fee but it only costs 75 bucks for them to tell you that it's not covered. It would suck to have it not covered and then being charged a lot of money.
Thanks for sharing your experience. We appreciate it.

I had two claims with American Home Shield. First, the freezer keeps water coming in. It has to heat it up first around the coils. The techs fixed that. Then once it was fixed, it wasn't making ice. They were two unrelated things. When the other thing was iced over, the box that makes the ice was broken. So, they replaced that part. Now it's all working. The tech were friendly and professional.
The overall claim process is kind of cumbersome. Sometimes, you have to go online. Sometimes, you can't get in touch with them. This time when I made the claim for the second thing, they hooked me up with a different provider. When the other provider called me, they said, "We could be there like in a month." So, I called American Home Shield back, and the rep said, "Well, it's already been sent out." I said, "Yeah, but the other people already know what the part is because they were here, right?" So, they switched it back to the other company. This experience was good. In the past, I've had bad experiences with them, and I wouldn't want to recommend them. I wasn't even gonna renew. But they're getting better.

I was initially skeptical but my experience with AHS was surprisingly helpful and professional. It was easy to get my claim going for a couple of light switches that weren’t operating properly. The initial communication was that the person would be reaching out to me which didn't happen. I reached out a couple times and eventually we communicated. Once we did, it happened quickly. The technician was good. A little more clarity around what happens next once I put in a request would be good. I felt like there were dueling messages like, “He's gonna call you but call him,” kind of thing.

My water heater claim to American Home Shield went pretty good. It took a while to get the water heater in. It was a little over a week so we went about 11 days with no water. But they did what they could and they got here at a pretty decent time. The water heater was completely shot, so they came and installed the new one and everything worked out pretty good. They were very professional. They came in and looked at the water heater right away and determined we needed a new one. I like that I didn't have to pay out of pocket. That’s always some money saving. Right after the water heater got put in, my furnace went out the next day. So, we had two claims in less than two weeks. Those were two major appliances. Having American Home Shield has been worth the money.

American Home Shield is prompt when you lodge a complaint and the contractors that they hire are a tad bit slow. I called in two complaints. My first complaint was my oven heating element and electric oven, it had gone out. Two days later, a guy came out and he took pictures of my stove, serial number and model number to make sure he ordered the right component, the heating element. He told me that it would take three to five days. But because of COVID, it could be a little bit longer.
After five days, I called the contractor and they said it had not come in and to give them a call the next week. Now, week number two on a Friday, I called, and I got an answering machine and no one answered. I did go online to see if I could find a heating element. But I remembered that I got American Home Shield and they could do it. So, on the Friday of week number three, I called American Home Shield and explained what was happening and then, on week number four on a Tuesday, the guy came in with the heating element.
The second time, my hot water heater was leaking. I called and their subcontractor scheduled to come. He came a day early because he said he was in the neighborhood. He repaired it. But he had to tear up the wall in the garage in order for him to repair the pipe. He said that because he tore the wall up, he was going to put it in his notes and have American Home Shield come and fix it without me having to pay for the repair. That was three weeks ago. So, earlier this week, I called American Home Shield and notified them that the plumber said he was going to contact them. They checked their notes and the subcontractor did not put it in his note that he had to tear up my wall in order to fix the pipe. So, they said they would call me back in two to three days.
There was a miscommunication with the subcontractors and American Home Shield. The subcontractors are saying one thing, and they're not doing what they say they're going to do. If a repair was needed after they complete the job, they're not adding in their notes what was needed. Then, when I call American Home Shield, they're not calling me back to let me know the status that I'm getting with my wall repair. Overall, it's a relief, knowing that all you have to do is make a phone call to American Home Shield. But the subcontractors that they hire are not really on par with them. So, they needed to have a training to let them know that they have American Home Shield’s name on the line.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out for you. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

Every time I call American Home Shield, it has to be kind of a fight. There is a back and forth. It goes on. But after all the arguing, they were able to get it done. I’m experiencing that firsthand right now. They are giving me a hard time with my refrigerator. I make three phone calls a year, and they give me a hassle. They are the ones who wouldn't get the end, not me. I got a lazy technician that came and wrote a horrible report. And then I got another estimate, and then they seemed to fix it. In some instances, I went to a lawyer to see what was going on. The contractor that came this time was very good. He got it done and over with right away.
I pay my yearly fees on time. I've been with American Home Shield for 15 years. All my family members are with them. They have treated me well in the early stages. But as the years went on, I feel like the service is going downhill. Everything is about money to them. That's what I see at least. The people that they send out, I feel like they are told not to do a good job or just write reports so they don't have to fix anything.

The air conditioner was not heating properly. We called in, but the contractor never show up. The same thing happened with the water heater claim. We called in and then one company called us back in to schedule. They sent a text to schedule appointment. We told them that we were not available on that day. They said they were going to get somebody else and that they were gonna get that information to American Home Shield. But when we checked online, they canceled the work order without telling us. I tried to get an explanation from them. They never answered back. We talked to American Home Shield and they said they would send another company. But they never assigned nobody.
The only contractor that came in was for the washer. They put parts in and they completed it right out. They were pretty fast, with a lot of texting and calls. With the water heater and the air conditioning, we don't know which company is coming. We would ask if they have anybody available and they would say, “Just that company.” They didn't want to accommodate us. They said they didn't have time and they were too busy.
Overall, American Home Shield is good. I'm satisfied with them. But some of the contractors they're using are not that honest. We noticed that it was kind of a rip-off, especially one time with the air conditioning people who came in. We tried to contact American Home Shield. They understood it, but they said they have to believe what the technician was saying. We were told that the Freon needed to be replaced and put a new unit. I contacted somebody else without the warranty, and it was actually the blower that was broken.

I called AHS and I told the person that I had a pool problem. I was asked what the problem was and I said I didn’t know and that it’s not working but it’s not the pool cleaner. She asked me what it was and I said that I was calling because I didn’t know. She told me she would give me an AAA company. I said that means they’re one of top and she said yes. The company came out and they were good. The girl put plumbing and electrical because I didn’t know what it was. So that way, the contractor had to come out and figure it out. The person from Upland Pool Supply fixed my pool equipment. He came out and then, he came out again. That was not a problem but in the past, I’ve had issues.
AHS contracts with different companies and different ones of us have them, and some of them are not the best quality company. Some of the contractors that American Home Shield use just come out and don't work on the machine when you tell them ahead of time or they have a reputation that they're horrible. But lately, I'm okay with the contractors. They've been fine. I’ve had AHS for 30 years and we’ve learned to Google the companies now. My most recent claim is for my refrigerator and it hasn't been repaired yet. The contactor came out to see what was wrong with it and they are supposed to come out on the 18th to repair it. My washer went out. It just stopped working. I could turn it on and I could set it, but it wouldn't move through any of the cycles. And there was an error code which when I looked it up, it said that there was a drainage issue. The water wasn't draining from the washer properly. American Home Shield sent me emails saying that Michael Jr. Plumbing was set up to do the work and that they will be contacted in the next 24 to 48 hours. They called within the 48-hour period.
An initial tech came out to look at the washer. He gave us a large list after he looked at it for all the stuff that he was going to order. He said usually a lot of times, circuit boards on these things fry out. He told me three or four different things that he will have to order to replace and repair on there. Took two weeks before they called back with the repair to set up the date to finish the repair. I had to follow up a lot with them. They didn't call me with anything. And the only reason, like I said, the appointment got booked was because I called them and she was like, "Oh, yeah, your parts are in and we need to go ahead and schedule you."
A different tech came out and he replaced the water pump, the little holes, and I asked him about it. I said, "Hey, the last guy that came said that there was a few different things that needed to be repaired, and it looks like you only did this one thing." He was like, "Yeah, all of the other stuff isn't necessary. You didn't need them. It was just the pump that was the problem." So he fixed that, everything's working. He was like, "If that wouldn't have worked, then we would have escalated and done more stuff." So I asked him, "Why? What about all the parts and stuff he ordered?" He was like, "Oh, yeah, we'll send them back. That's no problem. We didn't need them." But everything works fine now. It made life a little easier.

Our kitchen sink clogs up somewhere down in the internal workings of our drainage system and we don't seem to get that resolved by just snaking. We've tried the pressurization thing, too, and that lasts a little longer, but it does not resolve the problem. The thing that bugs me is we can't get this thing resolve on a more permanent basis ‘cause every six months or eight months, we have to pay to have it done again. I wish there's something else we could do. Then the price has been going up pretty high for the service. I came awfully close to dropping out this year because it just got ridiculous. The young lady who took the call gave me some kind of a discount and I didn't know what it was. But I'm a double senior on a fixed income and my wife is a senior too. Submitting claims is fairly easy, above the normal phone aggravation when you call any large company. You end up at a call center in the Philippines and that is not much fun. I know that is how large companies operate these days. It would be terrific to have American or English people who speak English as their first language to return the call because there is a communication gap. But they are very polite. The AC wasn't a good experience because when the technician came, he told us that he could repair it, get it to the workshop and get it back on seven business days. Plus, we had to pay $1,400 because of the gas. It was an old AC. I felt that United Air Temp wants to make business of this old AC. But they were nice enough. We called two more people. As soon as they came, both told, "You need to replace the AC because it's so old. The gas, they are not making the gas anymore." One of them told me he's not going to repair my ac. As soon as he puts the gas in, gas is going to be leaking out again because it's an old AC.
I told AHS and they told me that we need to pay for another technician visit, and if the technician says the same as the former one, the one that says that they can't repair it, I don't have to pay anything. But if they have a different diagnosis, I have to pay $100. We got one of our technicians and we just repaired the AC. When I went to AHS and I said that I replaced the AC, they told me, "Okay. We can do nothing because you needed to follow our procedures."
I'm suffering because I was canceling the contract and AHS told me, "Give us another opportunity." My fridge doesn't dispense the water and the icemaker isn't working. The technician came, he opened up the hose, the hose leaked three drops, and he said, "No, it's the hose. You need a plumber." He made a report, plumber came yesterday, plumber saw the hose, and he showed me, "No it's not the hose, it's the fridge." So right now, Home Shield is doing again an appointment with the technician. Because right now, I'm following their procedures just in case.
You have to be aware with American Home Shield because they work. They have a very nice customer service. I can't complain about that, it's just the policies. But if I was talking to a friend, I would say, "You know what, I have this company. I got most of the work well done, but sometimes they don't answer."

We had a claim to American Home Shield for the furnace and some plumbing. For the plumbing, Ed came from Dave's Plumbing yesterday. The leak is coming from the bathroom. He told us where the leak was coming from. I said, “Well, I figured that. I already knew.” He couldn't do anything about it. He told us what to do, though, but they're not allowed to do any caulking. That sounded crazy. They're plumbers. They should be able to seal leaks temporarily until it can be permanently fixed or replaced.
As far as the furnace, the last time a guy came here was in October. My father called that in. He also asked them when they came if they could do the vent and check the dryer. Somehow, he was told they do not do the dryers. The guy just was supposed to look at the furnace. It was just a maintenance call. I said, "What do you mean it was a maintenance call?" He didn't know why they said it, but they don't do anything with the dryers. The young lady I spoke with said, "Well, yeah, somehow whoever wrote your ticket up, wrote you up for a maintenance." We paid $100 for him to come out here just to look at the furnace, but he replaced some piece that was on the furnace. I had just bought a brand new filter. I told him to put that in and he did.
Ever since, the furnace has been rattling very hard and we can't get heat. No heat comes to the main level. All the heat goes upstairs and downstairs like in the family room. My father said, “This one knob, the man said this is what adjust this. So maybe if you just slide it over here a little bit, maybe the heat will go through.” But the heat don’t. You can't even stay upstairs because it's burning up. We have a fireplace, so what I do is I burn the fireplace around about between 3:00 and 4:00, so that way I know the temperature is gonna be dropping. That way the heat could never blow on it, so the heat will come up to the main level when you first walk in the door.
The girl apologized and said, "Do you know what your dad said?" I didn't know and he was not gonna remember because he has a little bit of dementia. I tell people, "You have to work when I'm here." He said, "Well, I just showed them the furnace." They checked the dryer but no one has bothered to check the vents of the dryer. I got somebody who would check the furnace and the air vents and they would vacuum the vents out. Everything was for $100. I'd rather give him $100 to get four things done because you're gonna pay $100 to American Home Shield and whoever comes don't know what they're doing. They can't help you. They don't do this. They don't do that. I told the young lady what l told my dad, "I'm gonna have to find you a new insurance home appliance whatever. I had to find you a new company." Every time he calls somebody for $100, nothing is fixed.
I'm pissed about the microwave still. We had a Whirlpool. We weren't told and we were lied to, saying, "They replace your stuff with what you have." The young lady was very honest and open. Even the suppliers who came and put it in were honest about it. They said, "Don't let them lie. Whoever that representative was, she lied. Don't believe nothing they tell you. They only use General Electric.” I can't stand General Electric. They've had to come and give me two microwaves because each one was messed up. It was under manufacturer's warranty. They only worked for two days. So, they had to come and put another one in.
Now, I'm looking for a light bulb because the light bulb blew out. Then this thing overheat. I found out that's how it does sometimes with the fan. I figured that out. I did some research myself and called the General Electric people. They explained to me what it was and it did worked eventually. It turns off on its own after it gets to a certain temperature. That's cool. It’s a safety net. The microwave, now, doesn't heat up like it used to. Overall, I don't feel my father's getting what he's paying for.

My ice maker in the refrigerator as well as my rangehood fan weren't working. I called American Home Shield and they got me in contact with a local person that dealt with that type of stuff. That contractor got it taken care of. We're waiting on a backorder for the fan but it was prompt service. If you're buying a new home, it's one thing to consider having the sellers purchase a home warranty when you buy. Sellers have an inspector come out but inspectors kind of miss a few things.

When A-1 Plumbing from Ceres came to my house, they fixed my toilet. The plumber said that his boss said that American Home Shield would only allow them to put silicone around half of the base of the toilet. I didn't believe that so I protested and I was supposed to get a callback. But AHS never called me back. The silicone is the base of the toilet but AHS only allowed them to do half? But other times, I've been very happy. The people that came out for my refrigerator and my microwave were exemplar. When submitting a claim, there's difficulty when you have to talk to machines. I don't like it at all. I'm in the process of replacing the microwave. So I still use AHS but they don't make it easy.

There were two technical claims we did to American Home Shield, and both times, Boris from Amtec came out. The first few months after we got here, there was some leaking under our fridge. So, we called AHS, and Boris was sent out. It was just that the little catch pan was tilted underneath. All he had to do was put the pan on the right shelf. But the latest time, the fridge just stopped cooling entirely. When he came, he said the compressor had died. So, I wasn't crazy. Then, that got replaced the following week.
Boris was the greatest. He is a super nice guy. He is super informative. They had said that getting the part was gonna take weeks, and he himself went and bought the part, so that I could have it the following week. I had to get a mini fridge that night. It was like Friday night in December sometime, and he had come that afternoon. He said, “We have to unplug this. ‘Cause it's a fire hazard. And it's probably gonna be a couple or three weeks.” He could see the shock on my face. And he said, “But you know what, if you decide you’re gonna do this, if you can wait till Tuesday, I’ll go and get it myself.” So, I decided that afternoon to let him do that. I went and got a mini fridge and dealt with it until Tuesday. He fixed it, and it’s been great ever since. He was awesome.
Everything's been great with AHS. The only other thing I had done was when they did the winter heater checkup. The guy who came was great. He helped me hook up my gas fireplace. I just bought the house, and the pilot light was off. So, both times, both people I've dealt with that they sent out went above and beyond. They didn't just come and do what they were supposed to. They helped me do more, which was great. AHS was there when I needed them.

Submitting claims with American Home Shield is real simple. When I call in, the prompts direct me to payment or claims or follow up on an existing claim and it's very simple to go through it. My first claim was the water heater and I was going to do it myself. They said to just send them the receipts and they would take care of it. They haven't barked about whether they want to cover the claim or not. They've been very good about it.
My second claim was when there was no pressure coming out of the air vents so the heat was just constantly trying to run. I was a little bit disappointed at first because when I called up to verify, the contractor, Excellence Air, said they have a cancellation and that they would be able to take me in. But it turned out that the cancellation decided not to cancel and nobody called me back. I called back and said I've been sitting around waiting. I asked if they were coming and the guy apologized. They forgot to call me back. But the repair guy was here right afterward, when he said he was going to be here. He had to replace the valve and he showed what he was putting in. He did a really good job. I've been recommending AHS to everybody. They stand on their word. My main concern when I first signed up for it was if they're gonna go through and pay for something if it was damaged and our experience has been great.

About three months ago, water started leaking in our refrigerator. It caused the ice maker to freeze up and it wouldn't make any ice. Then, the water was melting because it wasn't being made into ice, there was no place for it to go, and it was dripping into the refrigerator itself. I called and American Home Shield sent about three companies out. The first fellow from Price is Right de-iced it, and then he put it back together and said everything was fine. It was leaking again after two days. The second fellow came out and said the same thing, only this time, he put silicone around it to secure the unit more to the refrigerator. That was fine for two or three days then it was leaking again. I called, and another firm, Suffolk Appliance, came this time. Their people have been out three times, and the last time that they came, they said they would get a second opinion.
I called AHS and they made arrangements for that. Sears came out, took a look at it, and made a conclusion that I needed a new unit. The new unit came and Suffolk Appliance installed it. Even with the new unit installed, it didn’t work, and it's a Samsung. Every technician that’s been in here says the same thing, that Samsung stinks as far as the ice maker is concerned. Sears finally finished it up last Thursday. A supervisor came and he seemed to correct the situation. It's not leaking and it's not frozen and the ice has been made. This last repair was excellent. As far as cleanliness, one fella came in with dirty shoes and messed up our rugs and our floor, but the others were neat. Then they were all very professional at what they did.
I'd recommend American Home Shield in a minute. They've been very gracious. We've had it in our house before and it was a $125 deductible. We just moved into this new condominium complex and we have a $75 deductible here. With that amount, they charged us once and they've been out seven or eight times. That’s the best deal in town. Don't forget that I'm a pleased customer. Don't disappoint me, American Home Shield.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is a simple process online but difficult on phone because of the long wait time. I did one for a faucet leak and Mister Plumber came out. The plumber repaired the faucet and he did a really great job. The only thing is it would be really good for American Home Shield to come up with potential parts for repairs because that decreases the amount of re-cycle. For instance, I had an AC unit that went out in the middle of the summer and it was diagnosed to be the condensing unit. The condensing unit was taking well over a week before it even shipped so I ended up having to get my AC redone and got compensated for that part because American Home Shield didn't have anything readily available with the repairman or something they could go and get relatively quickly.
Having parts accessible when technicians come to do repairs is really great because it prevents the technicians from having to come back and having to wait. I've had that a couple of times. One was for a dryer belt. I had to wait almost three months because COVID kicked in and protocols had changed. That was kinda crazy.

I just renewed my coverage with American Home Shield and I'm going on my second year with them. They're definitely better than another home warranty company I had prior to coming to them. I didn't like their contractors at all. On the other hand, American Home Shield's contractors are good. I've only used American Home Shield five times, including the time when I had someone come to fix my garage door. I also had an electrician come out to check my circuit box. Those two calls went well. However, when my furnace went out, I don't feel as though they gave me a good coverage on that at all.
The company said they needed to replace the furnace and it would be about a $6,000 job. American Home Shield offered us $1,500, and if I didn’t get the new furnace and just got it repaired, they weren’t covering that at all. I kept asking for an option. I found someone that could do the repair for me for around $1,000, but they said if I use my own person, they will give me $700 for my cash out. I really need that furnace taken care of. It’s still not acting right. All in all, the little repairs were good, but the other ones didn’t cover the major repair that I needed. I would like to be covered 100% if I have a major repair.

But I called in the other day and asked them why their price went up. It was 39.99, and now it's 47.99. But everybody I've talked to with the other plans told me that the plan that I have is a excellent one because it covers so much. It's the middle plan. So with the $100 deductible, it's not bad. Most recently, I opened a service request for my over and cooktop. AHS assigned a contractor that was completely booked and could not come until Friday. Recently, AHS sent out two companies to our home. The first guy that came said that he was going to refer our situation to the next company and that was Neblett Construction Company. Their tech said that everything was fine with the furnace and he suggested that maybe we didn't have our vents open upstairs. At the time, our problem was that the heat was being distributed downstairs when we turn on the thermostat. We have two, one downstairs and one upstairs, and when we turned both thermostats on, only the heat downstairs was generating. It was warm in the hallways upstairs because heat from downstairs was going up there. But in the different rooms upstairs, it was freezing cold. So, I thought maybe there was something wrong with the thermostat upstairs.
But the man said that no and that he discovered that the vents were not open upstairs, which just made me feel dumb. It was silly. The vents are on the floor upstairs and we could see them. Downstairs, the vents are in the ceiling. But upstairs, the vents are on the floor. So, when he was testing out the system and he was going in one of the rooms upstairs which is the laundry room, he said that the vent was closed. So, we opened all the vents and now, it’s nice and warm. The tech was also very nice and didn't make me feel stupid. American Home Shield has been great, too.

I called on a Wednesday around 7:00 at night. It was two days before Christmas and we were having a cold spell. The heating company was great. They came out Christmas Eve morning and had it fixed within 20 minutes. They were fast and on time. They also gave me a estimate on replacing it. But I haven't had a problem since.
I had a plumbing issue a couple of years ago, but I ended up having to go with a private company because I have an older house and the opening to my plumbing is on the roof. When the contractor came out, they said they were not able to access that. I had a little dispute with American Home Shield because I said I shouldn't have to pay a $75 service charge when the contractor just walked in and said they couldn't help me. I asked if we could call around before they send out another contractor and they told me no and that I would just have to have contractor after contractor till one of their contractors would go on the roof. That didn't make any sense. I didn't have a kitchen sink. So I hired my own plumber but American Home Shield charged me $175. I fought on the back end and I was reimbursed my $75. So it all worked out in the end.
I have an open claim right now for my washing machine. I called on the 28th of December to put in the service call and the contractor did the service call the next day. We did a virtual call and they said they would order the part, and then I never heard from anybody. So a week later, I started trying to call the contractor, and I had to call and leave three messages.
Three days later, I got ahold of somebody and she said that American Home Shield should have contacted me and that my parts are on backorder. But nobody contacted me. It's been 10 days and they told me the parts would take three to five days. So then I called American Home Shield and I spoke to someone from a call center that may not be in the United States. They said somebody should've sent me an email. I said I didn't get an email and then they said the purchase would be delivered on Saturday the 9th. So then Monday came but I didn't hear anything, so I called the contractor again and had to leave a message again and they didn't answer.
I called American Home Shied and they called the contractor. They also had to leave messages and they sent emails, but nothing. I called multiple times on Tuesday and a rep finally answered it. She said, "Oh, on Mondays, we're just really busy. We don't answer the phones." Then she said that they got a bunch of supplies in, so they haven't had a chance to see if mine was there yet. So she called me back that night and they did get me in and they're coming today, but they're 48 minutes late. They told me they'd be here at 9:00. So I'm not upset. I understand things happen, but I should have not been the one calling everybody to figure out what was going on.
I'm happy with American Home Shield. But it's not always easy to get ahold of someone when there's a problem. I'll be on hold for 20 or 30 minutes. Now, a lot of it I can do online, but when there has been an issue, the hold times are out of control. Also, they have an option to leave your phone number and someone will call you back. But I've done that twice and nobody ever called me back at least within 24 hours.
Thanks for sharing your experience. We appreciate it.

Submitting a claim with AHS was really easy. When Plumbers Inc. came out, it was great. The tech had to come out and evaluate, and then he had to report back to AHS with the issue and get approval from them to replace our hot water heater. So, he wasn't able to fix it the first time when he was here. He got approval later that day. The next day, I was back in contact with him for them to schedule to come and replace the hot water heater. We were really happy with the service of AHS, especially considering the time. This was right before Christmas. We were really impressed with the response and understand that couldn't happen on the same day. But, we understand there's a process that has to occur, so we were happy with how it happened. We've been satisfied with AHS.

In the beginning, AHS forced me to wait for a pool technician, and they were not able to find anyone. Finally, they authorized me to hire somebody else on my own and they paid me right away. The second time, the pool wasn't working again and the water was contaminated. They told me that they would find somebody to come and look at it, just wait for 48 or 72 hours. I called them every single day during 10 days asking them to allow me to hire somebody that they could authorize, and they didn't give me a chance.
Until 10 days passed away, my pool was completely wastewater. Water was not being circulated. All debris and pollinations from the trees from flowers shed down on the bottom and started brewing, and we've got a lot of allergies. We hired the other person who was helping us to clean the pool because we didn't have the proper equipment. We spent almost $800 on that and so I called back and told AHS to refund the $100 which we were paying in advance. The lady was very nice and she said that she would give me the $100 back. But I still spent $700 because they didn't allow me to call somebody. They didn't compensate us for that because they didn't cover those things. When they didn't find any technician, they allowed me to find one. They authorized him to replace the pump as it was an electrical problem.
We were completely unsatisfied with the first two appointments. I called them twice for electricians and the next day, I had a technician. Then with the air conditioning issue, the technicians who repaired the problem were excellent. But they couldn't find a pool technician in my area. I did that, but it was taking a lot of time and causing a lot of damage. That's not the way I wanna deal with them so I quit with them this year.

I did a claim online to American Home Shield for the garage door. The experience was easy and simple. The person that reached out to me was relatively quick. Then the tech reached out to me thereafter. He was on time. He let me know when he was going to be here. When he was here, he told me what he was going to do and tried to explain things. He told me what he thought would be covered. If it wasn't that, then it was something else, which wouldn't be covered. Fortunately, it was covered. I felt pretty comfortable with him. I am probably going to re-up when that time comes towards April because I felt like AHS is really good for us and it's a good peace of mind having it.

Sometimes, they can't get to you as quick as you want them to, but I understand that. With the furnace, they got here right away. It has been a positive experience. We took off the light panel to paint. And when I was to put it back on, it wiggled the wire just a bit and it sparked and popped, and blew all my circuits. I put in the call through AHS, and I put it in on a Saturday. First thing, Monday morning, Lite It Up called me, scheduled an appointment, and was over and fixed it. They were fabulous. I didn't have to do anything but go online and schedule the appointment and pay the tech $100. And they did everything else.
I also had a plumbing problem that ended up I had to move it to my homeowners insurance. It started with AHS, but I had to move it because AHS covered the repair of the pipe but didn't cover getting into the pipe or putting it all back together afterwards or the restoration, getting all the water out of the walls. Whereas they do cover plumbing, they don't cover the whole gamut. But I also learned that my homeowners insurance doesn't cover the repair of the pipe, but it covered all the other stuff. One covered one thing and the other covered the other. Of course, none of them covered everything. I would still take these costs out of my pocket.
But as far as using AHS, it was very easy. I don't know how you would know what all isn't covered that you think is covered until you run into the issue. And according to the plumber, if they didn't need to dig out my yard to get to where the issue was, AHS would have covered just going through the drywall and then repairing the drywall. And even the plumber.
It was a bad weekend for me. It was New Year's Eve weekend, and I was painting. The upstairs outlet had its electrical thing. And then my downstairs office, I moved my desk away from the wall to paint my office, and there was a big water damage and flood. Both of those repair calls were put in at the same time. The only downfall was I had to pay $100 for each one, but I understand why. Instead of putting in one claim and paying one $100, I had to pay $100 for the plumber and I had to pay $100 for the electrician. I put them both in on Saturday and both the plumber and the electrician that AHS used called first thing Monday morning. They were both here on Monday. That's fabulous. I've only had the two claims, but AHS has done a great job.

It's very easy to submit the claim. We had an issue with our outdoor electrical outlets. None of them were working. There seemed to be an issue inside the breaker box. The contractor came out and they identified that there was water that had gotten in through some of the Christmas lights that tripped. It blew a fuse. So they were able to replace that and the issue was fixed.
We had an issue this past year where our air conditioner went out. It turned out we were in the midst of a pandemic, and the hottest time of the year. I got a binge of 12 days to get a company assigned to come out and take a look at it. So we had no air conditioning in the middle of the summer. It was a little tough. Submitting claims to American Home Shield is simple once you get them on the phone call. It takes probably 15 minutes or more to get somebody on the phone but the biggest problem I have is the language barrier. The people do the best they can but it's difficult to go through that process. We had GE Appliances come out for an issue and that was probably the easiest claim we’ve had. It was a GE technician so he knew exactly what was wrong and he fixed it in one day. He was spot-on, had good communication skills, knew what he was doing and respectful. I could communicate with him and there was no problem with the language barrier.
When I had a dishwasher issue, the first guy who came out didn’t know what he was doing and the second guy may have been Russian. He didn’t speak any English and when I was talking to him, he looked at me and nodded. That didn't make any sense at all. I had a stranger in my house that I couldn't communicate with. He was on the phone with whoever sent him out, speaking Russian. He was visibly upset and I got concerned because I didn't know what he was saying. I felt threatened. I was thinking that if he gets any more violent, I would have to take whatever necessary means to remove him from my house. I'm a 58-year-old man. I've never experienced anything like that before, so it was weird. If I cancel AHS, the language barrier is gonna be one major reason because welcoming people into your house that you can't communicate with is never a good thing.
AHS needs to work on communication on the phone and with individuals coming into your house. Especially in the kind of world we live in now, you gotta be able to talk to people. Aside from this, the length of time to get out is also a problem. I had a garage door issue and whatever business the contractor had, they didn’t put AHS as a priority. It took them two weeks at most to get someone out. It was a very small outfit. There wasn’t anything on the side of the guy’s truck and he leaked oil on my driveway. Since it's AHS, you have to try to repair it first. He replaced the part but it didn't work. It took a month to get a garage door opener. That was the time when I was getting ready to cancel the policy because I could have called a local garage door opener company and had my garage door fixed in 24 hours.
In the summertime, we had an issue with one of the air conditioning. It took 10 days for someone to get out. That's ridiculous when you got a problem with heating or even with the garage door. Maybe that's common with homeowner warranties but I need to investigate to see because at the time of need, you need things. The vendor selection of AHS is not very good. It is not top quality nor top vendors.I haven't had to use AHS much till recently, so I haven't complained before. My contract is coming due in March and after this most recent experience, I am gonna start looking next month and doing a comparison with other carriers. Because once AHS gets into motion, it's fine. But you're in a time of need, you can't wait weeks or multiple days to have someone come out, even for the microwave. It still took over a week and it's something I use every day. I wanna talk with other companies about the cycle time.
Greg,

City First Electric came out to repair an electrical outlet that wasn't working and everything got fixed in one visit. However, I've cancelled my contract with American Home Shield. They play bait-and-switch every single time we file a claim. They send someone out who says they aren't gonna be able to fix the issue and I'm gonna have to do this and that. We call AHS and they finally fix it. They've done that with three of our properties. We had rental properties with AHS and a person charged my tenant saying the issue wasn't covered. We had some very shady contractors that they sent out. We made complaints but they kept doing it.
The very last experience, which is why I cancelled American Home Shield, was when our washer broke down. They sent someone out and the person said that they were going to order a part 'cause it wasn't draining and spinning. Then we got an email from American Home Shield two days later saying they were denying my claim because Accord Appliance said that I broke my own washing machine and that it was neglect, it wasn't wear and tear. I was livid. I called American Home Shield back up and they said that was what Accord Appliance was saying. They couldn't do anything about it. We could get another opinion but they'd have to charge us another $100.
I called Accord Appliances 'cause I wanted specific details as to why they were saying that. The rep said, “We're not going to deal with you. You need to call American Home Shield. They're the ones that denied this. I'm going to transfer you right now." I said, "Please don't transfer me. I would like to speak to someone in your company." She said, "It's too early in the morning for me to argue with you," and hung up. This is the most awful experience I've ever had with a company. I've been in customer service for 35 years and I would never ever speak to a customer that way. We just got a new washing machine delivered because we just couldn't deal with that anymore.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We do apologize that this request has caused you to cancel your warranty. Your feedback is important and we look forward to your possible joining the AHS team in the future. Have a great day!

We lost our heat on Christmas Eve morning but there wasn't anything wrong with the heater. Our house has a tube system that runs across the basement floor and into the laundry room where it drains the dehumidifier. Somehow, that got plugged. I thought we were looking at a freezing Christmas. I was trying to figure out how that was going to go with a 78-year-old husband and two dogs. I called the number right away at 4:30 in the morning when I woke up because I was so cold. The answering service person said they would call me back at 9 o'clock. He called at 8:00 and I almost missed his call because I wasn't expecting anything till 9:00. I left a message asking him if he could help us out. He was there for me. That to me was a real rubber meets the road kind of thing.
When the tech from Brookfield came, he identified that the water had backed up into the furnace. All we had to do was drain it. The tech said a pump was needed and we were gonna do that. We were troubleshooting the thermostat too. The thermostat was old so we asked the tech to put on a new one. That was not covered by the warranty so we paid for it. The tech was great and he solved the problem. We'd hire him again. I was really grateful that I got the number for him right away. American Home Shield has a very good consumer service.

The initial service on our refrigerator after the request was great. The service tech that came out, Josh, was really good. He got parts in, they contacted us, and he got the parts installed. Then, we had the same issue and he followed up with Frigidaire. The unit could not be fixed. AHS gave us five days to decide if we'd take the 1,900 and change or pick from a Whirlpool or a GE. But we were not given all the information we needed over the weekend to decide. There was nowhere for us to see which models were available. I had to make a decision without being informed and that's where I'm less than impressed.
We ended up having to wait until Monday and call. Then, we were told that there's only GE at the time and there's this one model that was available. We've had that GE model at our old house and it's a step down from the Frigidaire that we had so it put us in the position of going out. We purchased a new refrigerator and then we filled out the thing that we want to be reimbursed up to the amount that they gave us. They said they'd be sending us information. I did that on Monday and it's now Wednesday. I still haven't gotten anything from them. The communication and the service after the fact have been very poor. I've already spent $3,800 on a new refrigerator and yet, I have nowhere to submit the receipt for AHS to start on their end to reimburse me.

The air or heat would not come out. The technician diagnosed the problem on our heater and got the part. It worked perfectly. The claims submission with American Home Shield is simple. I go online and do it and I haven't had a problem. But there should be a better choice of people in the area that's contracted with them. Also, I was shocked by a couple of things that weren't covered that I would have thought would have been covered.
I had problems one time with a claim with a hot water heater. I've got a whirlpool bathtub and it's deep and wide. So I put a bigger hot water heater in my house to make sure I had enough water if my girls were taking a shower in the morning time at the same time that I want to fill up my tub. When it went out, they said that I had a commercial-sized one and they would not go back with a commercial size. I'm not anything commercial here. I bought it at Lowe's off the shelf and just went with a 120-gallon instead of a 90-gallon. I did put a little bit bigger one in to have more hot water and AHS considered it a commercial one and wouldn't cover the difference. They had to replace it with a smaller one. Now, I ain't got enough hot water in the mornings when I fill up my bathtub and the girls are taking a shower.

Mr. Rooter Plumbing was fast, prompt and got the work taken care of. The online process of submitting a claim to American Home Shield worked out pretty well. It was really simple. The issues I had were outside of the house, but the techs picked up after themselves. They were dressed professionally and maintained themselves in a professional manner. I've put in three claims to American Home Shield recently, and they've been very supportive in getting someone over here to take care of things. I have told my family about it.

In July of 2020 we needed a new gas range for our home. We contacted American Home Shield to start a claim. Within a couple days a technician came out to diagnose the gas range, and said he needed to order some parts and it will take about a week. A week goes by and he comes back to install the parts, but what he replaces The new parts that does not repair the problem, so the repair company recommends replacement of the appliance to AHS and it is approved. Ok great!!! No. This is where the fiasco begins!!!! My wife and I wait for AHS to tell us what the new appliance is going to be and what our final is cost will be. AHS will be replacing our gas range with a lesser brand and not mention the new range will be electric???? Ummmm No!!!!
We then decide to take the buyout and AHS will give us an average cost of replacement and that comes to $350. Ok fine whatever!!!! My wife and I go purchase a new gas range from Lowe's, and wait a couple days for the new appliance to be delivered. New appliance is delivered all hooked up and ready to use. We filed the proper receipts with AHS as per their request to finalize the buyout, and we wait. Remember this is at the end of July 2020. October 2020 we call AHS to find out about our buyout of $350 and where it is. To find out AHS claims they did not receive the receipts of the new purchase, so we referred back to the confirmation email AHS sent us the first time and the associate claims she can not find it.
Ok we will re-send the receipts and once again we get a confirmation email stating they have received our information. Associate tells us that it will take a couple days to go through the process, and once approved to look for a check in 2-3 weeks. Ok great!!!! Fast forward to December 2020 it has been longer than 2-3 weeks and still no buyout of $350. We contact AHS just before Christmas 2020 and the associate says that she will personally handle our claim and make sure we will receive our check. She states that she will contact us the week of the 4th of January 2021 to make sure we did in fact received our check. Can you guess what has happened???? Once again no buyout check and the same associate who said she will contact us.....well she never called.
It is now January 12 2021 and I have called both Monday 1/11/21 and today Tuesday 1/12/21 and we are getting the same things said to us that someone is looking into the matter and they will call us back!!!! I was asked to rate this company/service with Consumer Affairs but they do not give you something to rate with a ZERO!!!! American Home Shield is a JOKE of a company!!!! It is a complete waster of your hard earned money and your time!!!! Once this matter is corrected, and we do somehow get our money this service will be cancelled!!!! I will tell everyone I know to cancel theirs or to never buy a home warranty ever.
The only time you will ever have a home warranty is when you purchase a new home, and then let it run its course!!!! American Home Shield has poor well I can not say poor that is too nice. AHS customer service is a complete joke!!!! Not one associate has called us back when they say they will, and they give you what you want to hear. That your check is in the mail!!!! We are at the point of hiring an attorney to recoup the loss. AHS needs to train the associates better and have a better claim service regardless of repair or replacement or the buyout option.
Hi Michael,

The washing machine went out. Originally, they thought it was the start button but come to find out the start button was a hard piece of plastic that pushed the working piece of it. It was extremely brittle. They even tried to remove it to replace the part but it crumbled. When it did, it shorted out a printed plate and at that point, the washer was completely useless. The repairman contacted American Home Shield and said that the washer was beyond repair. I really enjoyed him. He was a great guy. If I dropped American Home Shield now and needed a repairperson for appliances, I would call Frix Appliance Repair Service.
American Home Shield offered to replace the washer with a lockout of which would’ve been another front load. My wife didn't want another front load. She wanted to go back to a top load. They gave me the choice of either and came up with a monetary amount. My wife wasn't happy with what the money would buy. It was little less than 650. She wanted a more expensive model. I'm fine with the monetary amount that they named considering the unit was 14 years old. My concern is they want you to buy upfront and submit them a receipt showing that you did purchase something. If your car gets wrecked and if you don't owe anything on it, it's your choice whether you wanna put the money in your pocket and drive the vehicle like it is or if you wanna sell the vehicle and put the money towards a down payment. That should be your choice.
Nonetheless, on Friday, December 18th, I immediately went out and purchased a washer. On Saturday morning, the 19th, I took pictures of the receipts and the warranty card, wrote my dispatch number on it and sent it to them by email which is what they wanted on December 19th. I got an email verifying that they did receive it but they said it's gonna be 21 days. If they could have me a washing machine in five days, why can't they have made the check in five days? Now, I'm out the cash for 21 days and that's not fair. But other than that, I'm happy with American Home Shield. They're a good company and I've already recommended them to several people. They have treated me fair every time I've dealt with them.
Hi Kenneth,
We hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide!

My oldest son had moved in with me and he didn’t know the garage door was a remote one, so when he pulled it, it got off-track. He tried to straighten it up and pulled it all the way down. I called American Home Shield and they told me that it might not be covered. That was fine with me. I liked that they were honest. They still sent Flash Garage Door out.
When the guy came, I didn’t even have a garage door open. Then the thing that’s on the side of the wall to push to open up the garage was cracked half in two. He gave me one remote control, which I asked him for it and I paid him for. He showed me that one of the rollers on the door had wire wrapped around them, and one of them didn’t. I never had any repair done to the garage, so evidently, that’s the way they built it. He did a good job. I would like for him to come back and replace my garage door when I get the money. Overall, AHS has been pretty prompt. When I call in, they say someone will contact me within 24 hours. They always do that.

I had paid a $75 deductible and I wish I had YouTubed to see what was wrong with the disposal. For my furnace, the thermostat was out so the techs replaced it. My dishwasher burned itself out during the last wash cycle. It burned plates and melted items in it. I called American Home Shield that I needed service on the dishwasher. I spoke to the agent because going online is difficult. They hold a great deal as well when you call. But I figured it would be best that I just hold on. And I told them that I had a problem, and they immediately set up a contractor.
Sears was excellent. They were on time and knowledgeable. It was only one gentleman, but when he needed help, he called his partner. He looked at everything. He hoped it could be fixed, but there were just too many parts. There was a number of items when he saw that. He checked it. We turned off the electricity to make sure. He listed all the parts that needed to be replaced in order to fix it. He said, "You don't really know in the end if it can be fixed. Hopefully, it can. But these are all the parts." He had to call AHS to tell them the condition of the machine, as well as all the parts. And that was when I gathered it would cost more than just to replace it.
When AHS sent me the email, it only gave me the two choices, "You buy it or buy it through us." And I didn't know that if you buy it through AHS, it is delivered by one party, then installed by another. We have to now find a way to dispose of the dishwasher. I will not ever do that again. It was a massive process because we called, I was on hold for hours and hours just trying to find out the process and how this works. Finally, a young lady helped me and told me where it was coming from. Thank goodness it was all cleared because they had no idea it was being delivered to the wrong place. It was messy. The dishwasher was delivered this morning. And now we are waiting for the contractor. I already called to call us to install. And then when they install, then we have to figure out a way to dispose of it. Because we said, "Look, we'll pay you," but the contractor does not dispose of anything.
Here, we have to go take it to a recycling center. Hopefully, I don't have to go through any of this again with any appliances. But if I do, I'll just buy it myself and have AHS reimburse me because then whoever you buy it from, they install and take out the old one and just take it with them, and you don't have to worry about it. The dishwasher was here. They had it delivered. And they are coming to install it. It's just more work on our part. It's hard to try to find a way to discard this dishwasher.
Get AHS. We've had it for 10 years or so, if not more. It's a good insurance company. It made sense. It's just that when something actually happens, they just need to give a bit more information, but they do. And if you have to get a representative, it must be overseas or something, you just hold for a long time. But when you have to, you have to.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

Tri County Plumbing fixed our garbage disposal. It's been working fine ever since. So far, American Home Shield has been okay. The only issue I have is when you call or go online, the first thing they want is money. When you get to talk to a robot, they will say that you have to pay your copay. So they're more interested in money than talking to the customer and knowing what their customer's problems are. You also can't talk to a body. Sears came out for the refrigerator but they couldn't fix the problem even though they put a new controller board in it. When I contacted Sears to say that they didn't fix it, they told me to call somebody else. That was crazy. Then Montezuma came out and they were great. They were professional and they knew their business. They were quite different from Sears. They diagnosed the problem and sort of fixed it. They discovered two additional problems while they were there. The hooks on the doors were missing and the shelf was broken. The freezer part should be at 0 degrees Fahrenheit and 37 degrees Fahrenheit for the refrigerator part, but the temperature wasn't holding steady. The refrigerator would go to 42 or 44 degrees, and then the freezer would go negative 3 to plus 5. The problem when it does that is that it overloads the defroster. So it's a funky thing.
American Home Shield offered a cash settlement, and I've gone ahead and purchased the replacement refrigerator. Then I supplied American Home Shield with the invoice. Overall, I have been delighted with the coverage I've received from American Home Shield. I'm also delighted with the responsiveness, the professionalism, and the quick solutions to the problems when I have them.

Our heating unit was not getting hot and cold air was blowing out. We wanted to do a preseason heating check to see if the service people could find an issue or if there was an issue at all. A guy with Four Seasons Heating & Air came initially but he did not fix the issue. It took the service company almost three months to come out to even provide the service. Their guy said that everything was fine and that there was no issue with our heat. But the next day, the unit was still blowing out cold air so we filed a claim for someone else to come out and check on the heat. This time, Service-All came out.
We filed the claim on Friday and a guy came out on Monday. He was very timely and professional. He said that there was an issue. Our heat was still hooked up as propane but we didn't have a propane tank or anything like that. We needed to convert it to gas. The rest of our house is on natural gas. The guy ordered some kind of part and converted it to natural gas. He fixed the issue. Apparently, the first guy that came out didn't know anything about all that. Since the Service-All guy came out, our unit has been working fine and we haven’t had any issues. The repair has significantly helped us. We're not having to hook up electric heaters anymore. That was driving our electric bill out of the roof. Now, we're not having to worry about the electric bill being so high.

I watched the guy from RK Plumbing do the work and when he tried to snake the lines that go into the sewer line, he said it was going into the house. American Home Shield was going to cover the work if the block was under the house because it was affecting the toilet. And we looked all over to try to find the line that goes out to the septic tank. I even pulled out papers from the previous owners but we couldn’t find it. The tech then finally decided that when they built an addition inside the garage, it covered up that line. And I agreed with him. He then said that we were going to have to dig a new one and run it out there. I talked to American Home Shield and they said they couldn't cover the work. So, I paid RK Plumbing and they did great. It was a lot of money but got to do it.
All in all, American Home Shield has been terrific. But with them, you can only make changes to cover outside stuff, like the septic tank, within the first year of the contract. And when we bought the house, the previous owner bought us the first year and I really didn't bother to look at it. We've also never had a septic tank before. So, it makes me want to call other companies and ask how much it would cost to cover outside stuff. But other than that, American Home Shield has been very responsive. I've used them four times and I had no complaints at all.

There was a problem with the dishwasher and water was running on the floor. I did a claim online and the American Home Shield website was okay and was pretty easy to use. They gave me the name and the phone number of the company that would do the service. The company was to get in touch with me, which they did. For the most part, they were pretty good.
American Home Shield is a little bit expensive and the $100 deductible can sometimes be a bit much. If you have a problem and you could find someone to do it, the cost would probably be less. I had problems with my garage door and I was going to call American Home Shield. But I called the garage door company first and they only charged me $40. Other than that, I've had a positive experience and I often refer people to American Home Shield. It is worth it if something breaks to have a reputable company come out and not somebody who is just gonna try to take advantage of the situation.

We’ve had good results with using American Home Shield and submitting a service request is not difficult. I go right online and use the step process that's on there. I wish there's an app though. It would make it a lot easier than using a website. I had an issue one time with a company that was belligerent with me. It was a private company and when I talked to Home Shield, they sent out another company.
I recommend AHS all the time. When people are having issues and they're paying a ton of money out of their pocket, I brag a little bit that we only have to pay $75 here and there to have someone come out and at least give us peace of mind. 9 times out of 10, it's something simple. AHS doesn’t cover water heaters or some other things though. They cover a certain amount and it helps and it probably breaks even almost by monthly payment type. But I wish they would cover a little bit more cost-wise on certain things. Other than that, it's a great company.

Now, I'm brand-new in dealing with a furnace versus a heat pump. I wanted to make sure that what I was trying to work the heat or make the heater do was absolutely what it was supposed to do. I was a little nervous trying to figure the gas out. I went onto the site and filled out a quick form. I got a person from K & S Heating & A/C to call me back within a couple of hours and then he was able to come the same day and take a look at it. The request was kind of unusual, it wasn't necessarily a repair. But he walked me through the heater, told me what I was looking at, and set things accordingly to be best practice. It was really nice. He was not condescending at all. He just helped and answered questions.

The claims submission with American Home Shield could be done better, especially if you're submitting a request for service online. They should have timely updates as to the status of what was going on because whenever I tried to call them, I spent maybe five days calling and sitting on hold for 45 minutes to an hour to get someone. Most of the people that I spoke to in the beginning, were usually outsourced somewhere. So they're pretty much going off a script and don't have any kind of authority to make any decision. They would say they forwarded my request over to another department and I wouldn't hear anything from them. So that prompted me to call them again.
In my last experience with American Home Shield, I was frustrated with the customer service but as far as them actually providing the service, I was satisfied with it. It was an ordeal trying to figure out what AHS was going to do with the furnace if they were going to replace it or repair it. But they decided to repair it. Kevin's Plumbing was very helpful and really professional. They did a good job. Overall, AHS is a good service to have for the money that you're paying for. So I would recommend it to friends and colleagues if they were looking for one.

The contractor came out and they were very good. It was the first time I used the service. They sent out an electrician because the pumps and the timers weren’t working. I wasn’t charged for that service. Once they had the information, a person came out from the pool service two days later. We’ve had American Home Shield on the air conditioning and any other thing. Every time, they were excellent, quick and there were no problems. Their price, when we started using them, was $65 for the visit. That was 26 years ago and now, it’s 75. Everything's gone up.

The dryer wouldn't tumble. It wouldn't start to spin and it's a gas dryer. I contacted American Home Shield and they sent Calvary out here. It was relatively quick. The dryer was giving off an error code, which was easy to look up. We looked it up and the guy came out here, we told him and that was it. He didn't have to take it apart. He didn't do anything. He put it on to see that it wasn't tumbling, he ordered the part, and that was it. And then, he came back a couple of days later and installed it, and it was fine.
The $125 service call is a bit much, considering he didn't need to do anything, and he was here for 90 seconds and then left. If he was here for a while and diagnosed it, hooked up a machine, diagnostics or something, I would get it. But he walked in, we told him what the code was, and he left. My husband is an engineer so it's easy for him to look at these things and go, "This is what it is and this is how you fix it." We could have done it ourselves. I could have just ordered the part for $250 and done it ourselves.
We have two air conditioning units. When you set up the plan, you should find out if that coverage covers both units or not. And from what I understand, AHS covers both of my units. I didn't have to get a separate policy for the other unit. That's what they told me when I was questioning before I signed up. I kept that screenshot and I'm hoping that if something ever happens, they are going to uphold that.
And the other one is about what they are willing to pay out for an appliance. I worry about if it was not fixable, is the amount that they are going to pay out going to be sufficient to cover the replacement cost of an appliance? Especially after you've paid $125 service call. That is obviously going to be deducted from what they are going to give to you. So at some point, you have to look up and go, "Okay, well, is it going to be worth it?" That is probably something AHS would need to look at also.
If you have a $15,000 wall stove, odds are they are probably not going to replace the $15,000 wall stove. And if you can afford a $15,000 wall stove, you probably don't need to have AHS. I have a microwave oven in wall combo. It would cost me probably about $2,500 to replace that. So, if something goes wrong with that, are they going to cover it? What am I going to get towards replacing that combo? And that is not clearly listed in any of their documentation on their website or within their contract.

My refrigerator's ice dispenser wasn't dispensing. A tech came out and had his mask on in my house. He was really friendly and knowledgeable. I have a split refrigerator. The seal on one side was keeping the refrigerator door from closing. The tech did a replacement and used something that reminded me of a dryer to fix the problem so that it wouldn't continue to bother me and have issues later on. He did that the same day. He was perfect.
I'm impressed with American Home Shield. But I'm still waiting on my referral credits from them. I was referred by someone she didn't get her credits nor did I get mine. I referred somebody to American Home Shield and she never got hers too. We followed up and sent the information via email the way they told us to do. I still haven't heard anything. I'm not going to keep following up as I don't have that kind of time and I won't be referring anybody else either.

I'm very satisfied with the service of AHS. They have always been very professional and very assertive. It is overall a very good quality customer experience. We had a recent claim for the garage door opener that was failing. It was having an interruption with the service. It was something related to the cable connecting the sensors, but it was very easily fixed. The tech that came out was very professional and the service was very good.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

The plumbers from Pro-Tec were here and they were good. They simply said there was something that the city had to do. They couldn't do it. They didn't do anything but their advice was correct. The city sewage was overflowing because there was a tree that grew underneath it and then my front tree was blocking the path. I called the city and the city guys came in, cleaned and explained the situation.
American Home Shield works because I call them to submit a claim and they pull up my account. But I cannot do it online 'cause I'm not able to upload the online account. Every time I call, I ask them to fix my online account and they say I can pull it up but I've never been able to do that.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

The technicians that came out figured out that the refrigerator wasn't working properly. They came back a second time to check up on it. They said that they couldn't repair it and that it needed to be replaced. So they were pretty, pretty good about it. I worked with American Home Shield to get it replaced. I replaced it and I've already submitted a claim to American Home Shield, but I'm waiting for a refund from them.
It's a very convoluted process. I had to call three times just to get AHS to cooperate. They wanted to give me a check for a price that they would normally be able to purchase the appliance for, which would not work for consumer. They wanted to give me $200 less than what I could buy it from the store. So, it didn't make sense. Then I spoke to management and they agreed to give me a retail price amount to purchase the refrigerator. It was a lot of time consumed by calling back and forth and trying to make the claim and get a resolution. It took me about five hours to get ahold of somebody. So they were so backed up.

The blower and motor of the heater weren't working so I called American Home Shield and told them that it seized up. I felt like talking to someone so they could understand what I was going through instead of just typing it in on my computer. I explained that the heat would turn on and kick off five seconds later and it kept doing that. It took a little bit, but I understand the process being an insurance type company. AHS sent Complete Home Services out. They saw that I needed new parts. They got the new parts and they installed them relatively quickly.
This young kid from Complete Home Services was very knowledgeable, clean and he was about as quick as he could be. He took my call. He was actually away in Hampshire and said that it was going to take him a few days. But he said that as soon as he'd come back, he'd get the ball rolling, look at the issue, see what I need, get what I need, and install it. It took a week to get the part installed. Most of the process was waiting on the parts to come into the supply house but Complete Home Services did great work.
American Home Shield charges you $700 for the year for coverage on your stuff and then you have to pay another $125 service request fee before anyone can even come out and look at the issue. If they come out and look at it and determine that it doesn't need to be fixed, then you're out of the 825, and nothing got done. But they got me a technician to come out and got the service done.

The tech called to let me know he was a few minutes earlier than when he was scheduled to come. He was professional and very courteous. He said he could do something if I wasn't ready for him yet. But, it was fine and I told him he could come in. A fuse was the problem and he replaced that. My appliance has been working well since then. AHS has been very convenient and uncomplicated.

The garage door stopped working. It would come all the way to the top, bend the bar, and never stop. It would just keep trying until it was going to fold the whole thing in half. I requested service from American Home Shield on their website. I got text messages and I was in contact with the contractor shortly after I made the appointment. The tech from Diamond Garage Doors and Openers came out and said something was gonna have to be replaced. He came back out and replaced that. He was fantastic.

I have a double oven. One is a convection and one is just conventional. Whenever I would preheat the oven, it would give me an error. I called American Home Shield and within a week, Golden Appliance came by and did their analysis of everything. And they told me that the memory needed to be replaced in the oven. It took them a while because AHS had to order and do a part search. My ovens were out for a month. It took the tech a week to come out after I first submitted my issue with AHS. And then it took them a week. Then I heard it would be a 14-day search. So that was three weeks.
And then after they got the part, it was a week before Christmas. They called and they told me they wouldn't be able to be out until January the 4th. I was satisfied with the work that they did. It was just an inconvenience around the holidays for me, but I was able to get my dinner and things prepared. I had two work orders with them. And the first one that I had was fast. I was very satisfied. But this one with the ovens, I knew it was the holiday season.

It's nice to be able to do a claim online and select what you want. It's easy. Recently, the garbage disposal was broken. Also, the bathtub and the sink in the bathroom were clogged. The technician who came was a nice guy. He looked at the stuff then replaced the disposal. For the drains, he was pretty quick. He unclogged it and they're good since then.
