The experience was very good. The contractor called and they were very good about letting me know when they were going to be here. The guy was on time and he was very clean. He was very safe too. He had a mask on when he came. He cleaned up and put the stove back in place where it should have been. He did a very good job and asked me if I had any questions or concerns. He covered it 100%.

When I call American Home Shield to submit a claim, it was crazy easy. I've used them for an air conditioning issue and a heater issue. Everything was automated when I called them this last time. I didn't even have to talk to a person or explain anything to them. Cold Snap Air Conditioning was great. There were parts of my unit that weren't functioning right and they repaired those. Everything has been working well since. AHS is straightforward. They get their premium every month and if I have an issue, it gets resolved.

The dryer quit working and we didn't know what was wrong with it. The tech came out and he was very professional. He's the one who's usually worked on our dryer before. He's an older man and he seems very knowledgeable. He tried to get the dryer started but it wouldn’t start. The knob was stuck so he got it unstuck, and that fixed it. The dryer is still working great.

I asked about get my plugs checked. The plugs that RJ Wiggins looked at worn out from outside and some of them weren't working right. The tech tested some of them and he said that they were working, and that American Home Shield will not replace them if they are working, even if they were worn out. That was my first experience with the company.
There was one issue with my upstairs heating system, too. Because of what the tech said, AHS declined to fix my air conditioner. I’ve been in a cold house since then. I'm glad my kids are grown. I've been using heaters trying to stay warm. When AHS declined to fix it, they only checked upstairs and they gave a report about something about the line. And now, the one downstairs, the unit was messed up because the wires are messed up. The tech came back two times for the same thing and neither one of them was fixed. I don't know what they wrote in the report but they didn’t get fixed. It makes me wonder if I want to redo my contract.
I still have a faucet issue where the plumbers came out. The sink part, three people came out to try to fix it. None of them could fix it because they said it was an issue with the sink. What I understood was if something was broken, they would fix it but when they said it was an issue of where or something, AHS decided that I have to pay $180. When I signed on to them, it was said that they replace the things that are broken, but they would not replace it.
Khadija,

A guy came out for my dryer and he was very prompt. He explained everything and he worked the entire time. He was nice and courteous. He also wore a mask. It was an excellent experience. Now my washer is giving me problems so I had to contact American Home Shield about that. My dryer and my washer are about the same age so that's probably what the problem is. On the whole, I've recommended American Home Shield.

American Home Shield is not bad. It's kind of weird. They're up and down. On some things, they're really good. Then on some things, they're lacking. I had an issue with a sink that had a leak underneath the sink. The way their policy reads is it covers the sinks and leaks. Apparently, they had plastic lines on them, and they were gradually going one by one. One line went. The plumber that came saw that one line was leaking, replaced that one line, but didn't check any other lines. Within a couple of weeks, the other line started leaking. He went back and then said, "Oh, well, this line is not leaking anymore. It's another line. So, now you gotta call in again for another service call and another service fee." But it's all on the same sink. So, it's like some of the contractors work with American Home Shield. They call them, and it's like they work together on trying to get you to have to pay extra service fees on the same item.
Then within another month, pretty much almost all of the plastic lines in the house were leaking. I went and checked all of them and noticed they all had leaks, then I called them. They came and fixed one service call, and then they fixed them all. I'm not really sure how much is that communication between the technician of the company and American Home Shield because when I called for the second one, I used a different company. The first company was Advanced Home Services. Every time I have them come out, I have some sort of issue. They always seem to try to incur more costs.
One incident a couple of years ago, I had one from Advanced Home Services try to tell me that this whole pipe needed replaced because it had a fitting on it that I tried to do myself. He said, "Oh, this whole thing has to be replaced." I said, "Why don't I just push it in?" He just looked at me with this blank look on his face. I just pushed it in all the way. That was the problem. It wasn't shoved in all the way. It was a quick disconnect that wasn't pushed in all the way. But he tried to get me to have to replace the whole thing.
I said I didn't want Advanced Home Services anymore. Whenever I went to do a service request online, they used to have a option where it would give you four people to choose from, and I would always stay away from Advanced Home Services. I would always use Air Pro Master. The last few times I've used it, that option is gone. So, whoever is just assigned to me. They assigned me Advanced Home Services, so I ended back up with them again. I said, "Well, it's been like over a year. Let me try them again." Their guy came out and I had the same kind of problem.
Air Pro Master is who I used the latest time. Their technicians come out and they look for what's wrong. It seems like if they went under the sink, they would check both to see if they're leaking. I've never had a problem with Air Pro Master. I told AHS, "Don't ever send Advanced Home Services to any of my properties again." I have three policies with them on three different houses.

We called the warranty people, and then they sent out Steinmetz HVAC. They made an evaluation and then they worked with the warranty company. Then they said they got the okay to install the humidifier, and it was no charge to me. So they made arrangements and then they came out and installed it. Overall, the people that did the work were great. But the time for the warranty company to get everything done was way longer than I thought it should have been. Steinmetz told me that they would have an answer to me in a certain number of days, but it was the warranty company that was delaying the process. I hope next summer, if the air condition goes out, I don't have to wait three weeks for it to be replaced or fixed.
Steinmetz did a great job. They were very timely. They came out in one day, and they said we should have an answer by next Wednesday. But Wednesday came and went. So the following Monday, I called and said, "Hey, by the way, wasn't I supposed to hear from you last week?" They said, "Yeah. We're still waiting on the warranty." I didn't know what the deal was. When we were having some issues with the warranty company, Steinmetz talked to them and dealt with them. I also got the owner of Steinmetz on the phone and he was responsive. He made everything so much easier for me.
When I was initially dealing with the warranty company, I spoke with some woman in the Philippines that I could hardly understand. I was complaining about something with them, and then she called up and yelled at the owner of the contractor for who knows why. It was a rocky start to try to figure out how I was supposed to initiate the claim because I was dealing with someone in the Philippines who I could hardly understand. I asked to speak to her supervisor. But the supervisor never called me back. No one ever called me back from the warranty company. But they ended up taking care of everything.

American Home Shield is very responsive and organized. They do what they say they're gonna do and I've been extremely pleased with them. I wouldn't change for a minute. We had nine different pieces of property that we had covered under the warranty. We have three properties now covered under them. When we had a heating issue, the repair people that came out put in a new transistor. The people were very prompt and courteous. They had the part with them. These people are great and I ask for them every time I call American Home Shield. After the repair, the heating unit has been fantastic.

A recent claim was put in for some plumbing issues that we had and it was attended to very quickly. We had a water leak and the first time it was fixed, we checked and things looked like they were working. After a few hours, the plumbing started dripping again into the tank. The first visit had not resolved the issues completely so we had to call a second time. Again, it was quickly scheduled and take care of. The same contractor came in and fixed things again. So far, things have been good.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

Price Right came out three times. When they first came out, the dishwasher had a leak and they fixed it. I called for that and the pipe. The service gentleman went into the bathroom. He said, "Here's your problem. In your bathroom, your toilet is busted. You'll need a new toilet to cut the water off." He did his normal routine. We thought that was it. I called back after more than five days and I was like, "That water is still leaking. My carpet in my bedroom is soaking wet. And that water, it must have been from somewhere else.” But the toilet was cracked and my husband replaced the toilet and took up the tile. That helped.
I called them again. They came out to look. They were like, "Well, none of this stuff that the previous guy did, all that stuff is fixed." They wanted to see this pipe. So when they came out and saw the pipe, they were like, "Oh, this is the whole another thing Miss **. This has nothing to do with what they did." So then, I called again to get an order so I can pay the copay because the other one was a recall. And that's when they determined, "Oh, no, this had nothing to do with what the other service guys did." This time my husband was home. We did the order. I paid the other $100. And then they were like, "Okay, so we'll look at it."
So then the service gentlemen were here, but they couldn't do any work because the order had not went into the office. They were like, "Well, we need the dispatch." I called the office, "We need the dispatch." I said, "They're standing in front of me." "Well, we can't do nothing till we get the order." So, they had to leave.
They came back the next day because the order was finally dispatched. But when they got out here, at least, they knew what to do because they already looked at it. They were like, "Well, we know what to do, but we technically can't do no work until we get the order." I was like, "We understand that. No biggie." He said, "Your first call if your husband was home, he would have led us straight to the pipe, but he didn't. You were here and you assumed this was what was going on. But truth be told, it was good, it's in your favor because we did fix two things. We fixed the dishwasher and suggested to you what to do with the toilet, replacing the toilet." They would charge me 285 to do it. But my husband was like, "Oh, I know how to do that. That's no biggie." So he went did the toilet.
But the third time they came in, I called in and they had the order. They finally got the order. So the guys came in, this time they had to cut a hole in the wall. And then they had to go and get a pipe. They had to install a pipe. And they had to dig outside. They had to cut a hole. The hole is still in the wall. They said they would come back and plaster the wall. But they finally fixed it. It was two hours later, they fixed it. And my husband was like, "Well, I could go in there and fix it." I was like, "I already paid them."
But after the copay, then they said, "This would be $185." So when my husband gave them $185, then they went and fixed the pipe. We got the receipt and everything on the refrigerator. My husband followed them. He knew what they were doing. They were like, "Thank you Mister **." I was like, "Just let them do what they do." But they did everything and did everything right. The only thing is, nobody has called me back to say when they would plaster our wall back. They said that was covered since we gave them the 185. Other than that, they did a good job. I was proud of them. They were so friendly and very understanding. So, I was happy with them. I was like, "Honey, even if something happens, we're gonna have to use them again."

The disposal in the kitchen sink was not working properly. When we got the house, we never used it because we got a septic tank. But sometimes, when we scrape some food particles out off the plate after we push off all of our food off of it, we have some food particles and then the sink started smelling. So we decided to turn the disposal on. It made a loud, clacking noise. So we called American Home Shield and had them get a scheduled appointment.
The gentleman came out. He was very nice and friendly. We showed him where the disposal was. I turned it on and he said the disposal was bad and it needed to be replaced. He said it would take about 10 minutes to remove the old one, and put the new one in. I was okay with that. So he went to his truck, came back to the house, and he was done in less than 10 minutes. We've been with American Home Shield for about a year. In the summer, my washer and dryer both went out. It took three weeks to get one part and then three more weeks for another one. I was very unhappy with that. They had to order from Dallas, so they could get it at a discount. Instead of getting it from a local source, they wanted to get it from this one particular place in Dallas. They got it. Then it had to quarantine for a day, which by the summer people were pretty well not doing that anymore because they had determined that it was not surface contamination. Whenever I have a claim, it's better off if I call AHS. Their phone system was kind of screwed up and I don't like going through all the prompts. But if I press zero, I get right through and I get an operator right away. It's also not too bad of a wait if I press zero. I recently called them for an issue with my water cooler and the techs from Patriot Plumbing who came out were on time. They reset it, but I had to call them back on a Wednesday and they replaced my upper and lower thermometer. And I'm still having an issue because they're not done. I'm waiting for them to send out an electrician to change out a breaker for my electric for the water cooler. Other than that, they come out in teams of two, they came out when they were supposed to, and they were good.
I also had Patriot Plumbing come out to fix one of my toilets. Then, I had an electrical issue where the switch is inside, but the floodlight is outside, and the electrical people fixed that. So, I've had about four interactions with them and I had no problem. All in all, AHS would get somebody out to you in 48 hours they said. He replaced my exhaust fan in the bathroom. I did the claim online. Using the website was very easy. I'm used to it. It gives you the contractor's name and number but it also gives an ETA about when they should be contacting you. I've been completely satisfied with all of my service. We bought our home 15 years ago, and I've had them the entire time, and I've never had any issues.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

American Home Shield does the job but the contractors are usually slow to respond. AHS uses the lowest bidder and it sometimes takes weeks to get appointments. That's the main downside but the most recent experience was exactly the opposite. I reported it, the guy came out and fixed it the same day, which was amazing. He was a one-man show. He was previously allocated for other repairs and we were always very happy. He was very personable. He came out fairly quickly and did what he said he was gonna do. We'll continue to use AHS. They're getting more and more expensive every year with significant increases and at some point, we're going to start saying it's cheaper to take care of it ourselves. But at this point in time, it's worth the money. Overall, we’re good and happy.

I called for my plumbing issue. It took a day or two for A-1 Affordable Plumbing to call back and make the appointment. The guy came out and did a good job. He was nice and seemed to know what he was doing. Overall, American Home Shield is a good deal if you're not in a hurry and want to save money. If you need things fixed today, they generally don't do that. You have to pay much more to get someone else to fix it today.

The people who they hired to come fulfill my calls were great, and they got things fixed pretty quickly. I've had a claim for an appliance, and another for the hot water heater. They were both good. I did the claims online and it was pretty easy to do. It only took a few minutes. The only thing that would be better is if I could choose the company that I wanted.

This particular switch plate that I have has two dimmer switches in the outlet, and the ceiling light in the kitchen would just continue to flicker and the wall plate itself felt warm to the touch. So, I was told by Home Depot that the problem could be the dimmer switch if it wasn't the fixture itself. The electrician came out and I appreciate that he explained to me that the dimmer switch needed to be a higher wattage. But he didn't change out the dimmer switches. He explained that it wasn’t in the scope of work approved by American Home Shield. Then he tested the outlet itself with his little instrument and he said the outlet was fine. He was professional and I'm not faulting him for the problem that wasn't resolved. He made the trip out here and I'm not complaining about him.
I'm still trying to figure out how I'm gonna get that resolved. There are electricians outside of AHS and I understand that if I hire an electrician outside of my insurance, it's probably gonna be costly. So, I paid $75. I understand that I had to pay for him traveling out here. But what I need is for someone from AHS to tell me whether or not this little minor fix is covered under my insurance. If not, then I'll have to figure something out. But if it was covered, I need it to be done.
I don't use American Home Shield a whole lot but when I have any problems with the contractors that they send out, they immediately send another contractor. It's very rare. The previous contractor that they scheduled me with was scheduled to come at a certain time on a certain day and they didn't show up. The contractor told AHS that the tech that was assigned to me called off sick. They didn't bother to call me. So, that wasn't the fault of AHS. I appreciate that they immediately assigned me with City First Electric. I also had a contractor who broke some stuff and he didn't appear to know what he was doing. It was a bad experience and I let American Home Shield know but other than that, I haven't had a major problem although the cost continues to go up.

One of our burners wasn't functioning on the stove. We asked someone to come out and diagnose it. I did the claim online through American Home Shield. Technicians came out twice. Once, they came out to inspect the unit and determined the burner was faulty and potentially something else. They replaced some circuitry in the appliance. They had to order the respective parts and they came back a couple weeks later and installed them. The tech called me pretty shortly before arriving which was fine now that I'm working at home, but if I had been not working at home, that might have been more difficult for me to accommodate. Scheduled services, as usual, would be a little easier, although I do know it takes some extra time.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

Usually, doing claims with with American Home Shield is pretty easy. But other times, the system doesn't seem to cooperate very well. So, I would stop trying to log in online. I always call. The Bennett Air technician was very polite, responsive and he asked what my issues were. He explained what typically causes the problem and told me what he was going to check in three different areas and why, which I really appreciated. He moved forward. And as he completed each phase, he told me exactly what he was doing and what he was gonna do next.
American Home Shield can stop increasing the deductible every year. When I first started, it was a $50 deductible. And now, it’s $75. They used to have the option of paying their vendor directly and now, you have to pay American Home Shield directly before they'll send anybody out. When I had my refrigerator service, I told them what was wrong. I actually spoke to a person. They sent someone out. Then when they discovered that the manufacturer no longer makes the part, they told me that it was not a covered part. So now, I'm working with a refrigerator. I had to have a glass company custom create a shelf for me.
I have shelves that no longer are supported because the back wall of the refrigerator was just a faulty design, and that's probably why the manufacturer doesn't make it anymore. American Home Shield isn't doing anything to assist with this refrigerator. I can't afford to spend $4,000 on a new refrigerator. I'm pretty much just struggling with the refrigerator that should have either been repaired or replaced. First, they told me they were covered. But when they found out that they couldn't be replaced, they said, “Oh, that's not a covered part.”
Then with my washer, they ended up replacing it because they determined it was cheaper to replace it than to repair it. But instead of actually replacing it, they gave me a contribution towards replacing it, which worked out okay for me. I just found one that was within the amount of money they were willing to spend. We've had issues where the dishwasher needed to be repaired, and this was a brand new house. The house is three years old, and the dishwasher needed to be repaired. And it's not their fault that it needed to be repaired nor was it mine. But the builder put in faulty product. When they replaced it, they replaced it with an Amana. Now, everything else in my kitchen says Maytag. When I complained, they said it's all the same thing. I said, “Well, they’re just the same thing, send me a cover that says Amana.” They told me they weren't going to do that.
When people ask me what I use, I tell them. Then I tell them the horror stories. The benefit is, at least, when things do go wrong most of the time, you're not coming out-of-pocket. Like with the heating system and it wasn't cooperating, it was good that I could call American Home Shield and have that repaired. When the oven warped, first, they tried not to replace it and they sent the technician back out. Then they sent a different technician from another company out. And when they all said the same thing, that the thing needed to be replaced, that's when they finally replaced it. But in the meantime, I had no stove for two months.

We had issues with a couple of microwaves and dishwashers and the tech was able to fix one of them and the other microwave. With the dishwasher, he said there was some part that he needed to replace. With the microwave, the problem was even though they changed the fuse, it kept on failing within 10 days. I let the technician know about it. He said, “I need to talk with American Home Shield to figure it out.” Maybe he thought they might need a replacement. He did good.

I can't do it, but you can.” He told me what to do, I had it fixed in 10 minutes, and he was gone. He was fantastic. So far, AHS has been very proactive as far as getting somebody right out here to take care of the issue. It was two days and they were out here. I had to have them come out for the shower handle in the master bedroom, too. They had somebody out the day after that so it was two days on that also. They fixed it right away. AHS has been great.

My experience with my heating claim went really smooth. We woke up on New Year's Eve without any heat in my house. It was 63 degrees and 33 outside. My husband did some quick troubleshooting and figured out it was not something that he could handle. So, I sent in a claim to American Home Shield at 8:15, and at 8:30, we had someone scheduled to come out by 8:45. The tech was great. He was at the house by 9:30, was fully-masked, had on protective gear, troubleshooted the problem, saw what the issue was and fixed it. He was in and out in about an hour and a half. Overall, having American Home Shield makes the stress of an appliance breaking down or something not working a lot less stressful. You will just have a small deductible that you pay with them and for the most part, everything will be taken care of.

We had a hot water leak in one of our condos and the tenant, a pregnant lady, needed to have the hot water tank replaced. We put the request in to American Home Shield but it was not even addressed until three days later. We submitted a request online, tried to call, talked to folks, and the best explanation we got on the following Monday was that it should have been entered as a high priority complaint. The complaint form doesn't have that. We've called multiple times so somebody should understand that's what it was. Even if we didn't say it, a hot water leak is an emergency. Our tenant had to go and live with relatives and we had to compensate her for that. When we called multiple times and talked to somebody, we were told it was being reviewed. Then, they finally approved it.
When somebody came and looked at it on that Monday, it took about two days for the communication between the vendor and AHS to take place. We called the vendor and they said they were waiting for a green light from AHS to do the work. AHS kept telling us that they were waiting on the vendor to give an okay. Meanwhile, it has been seven days without hot water in the unit. It finally came to the stage where our tenant said that it was not going to be acceptable. We purchased the hot water heater ourselves at a significantly higher cost. We were told that we would be reimbursed for whatever AHS deemed fit. We would pay $1600 for the thing and they could agree to pay $400. They had us submit on the thing. That was three months ago and we have not even seen the reimbursement for that paltry amount. Also, there's no ownership of the issue.
We're to a point where we're looking at other options. This is not a company that stands by you. Any condition is an emergency and the company really should take action on that. They did nothing and we have not even received our $400. We ended up paying our tenant for the lack of use of the home. So, it was not only putting mental stress but it cost us money. And we wondered what we are getting from AHS except the runaround. You even look across industries and this is probably one of the worst services I've ever received. The fundamental thing is stuff goes wrong and I understand that. When we're calling them 10 times, somebody should connect the dots there. It's somebody reading a script there and it didn't come across that they care. For a business to stand-out, when something goes wrong, you step up and take care of the issue and your customer. They didn't. It was absolutely appalling the way it was handled.
AHS was not even able to do a simple act of updating the name on contracts because it takes such a long time. When you talk to somebody, they say it's done. But it never gets done. The business is owned by my partner and business partner. And when we first started, my name got put on the contract. We've been trying to get his name on there, so he could talk to AHS. They wouldn't even talk to him. It's a joke for a company that's so large. I'd be happy to talk to the CEO. They may have a captive market through acquisitions and having multiple companies but if they don't care, then time will take a toll on the company. There are some fundamental things they need to fix at an executive level. If we can get them to reimburse us for the money they promised us, that would be great, too.

So, it ended up being a couple of days after that before someone came out. AHS called and told me that Greenway would be doing the work. First thing that next morning, I got a call from them letting me know that they would be out. They were then out within a couple of hours. We had one bad experience with AHS. The kitchen sink was leaking and they sent someone from Lubbock. It was a young kid that came. I have granite kitchen counters and he was trying to get the faucet out because it was leaking. The faucet was broken underneath the granite. My husband kept telling him, "Don't do the granite like that. You're going to crack it." He did crack it. We tried to tell AHS and we also tried to tell the guy that was his boss. His boss said, "No, he said he didn't." Unfortunately, my husband didn't think to take pictures before and after which now is the first thing you do. We also did a claim when the sewer was stopped up. It got a crack and it wasn't covered. We had to find someone else. They had to come out and dig a hole in my son's bedroom and tear up the concrete.
Recently, my hot water heater would not light. My husband had been messing with it for over a day but there was no place that I could give any kind of explanation in the automated voice prompt when you're putting in a claim. AHS needs something in there that will allow the person to say what the hot water heater isn't doing. But the guy with A-1 Plumbing was very nice. He did well. We've had AHS for several years and filing the claim was much easier this time than what it's been before. They have much improved and we're very happy with them now. I've had a lot of issues. I was having my house inspected, and during the inspection, the person told me that there was water in the pan where the hot water tank sits. So then, I tried to address the issue with American Home Shield and the people that they referred me to. After they came out, they did a good job, but the company that they referred me to said they couldn't come in two weeks. I said, "Well, there's water in that pan." If it overflows, I'm going to have damage because it's up in my attic. I'm gonna have damage on my ceiling.
I called back to address the issue with them that two weeks is too late. I'm gonna have more damage. They came out. But they couldn't do anything because it was raining. So then, they came back and they did the job. But I have damage with my ceiling. When I called to address that issue, they told me I was gonna have to pay another $75. I said, "When I called, I told you if nobody came out that the pan is going to overflow and I'm going to have water damage. So that happened."
In the meantime, with having the water heater replaced, I had to pay the company $788, and then the $75 for the call. I've already paid my $50-something for that month. So, that's $900 out of my pocket. All I wanted to know was if I'm paying $900, how much is American Shield paying? So nobody could tell me if I'm paying $900, what's the point in having a home warranty? Nobody called me back and I haven't heard anything. It's been awful. My son had to buy a water pump and I had him over here every other day pumping water out that pan to keep from causing more damage. I could've lost my whole ceiling. I would not recommend American Home Shield.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. My name is Stacy and I have just sent you an email as I would like to contact you in an effort to assist with a resolution.

Recently, we initiated a work order on the American Home Shield website on a weekend and received a confirmation. Next, I got a call from AC Wizard on the following Monday and they were out the next day. It was a good experience. We ended up having to have a thermostat replaced. They cleaned up and a new service thermostat was installed very well. They were professional and very timely as well.

We were having problems with our heater not working. Excellence Air came and fixed that. That claim was fine. But there were major difficulties with the claim before that. That was a big mess and it took a couple of months before we got our fridge fixed. We had to fight tooth and nail on that. It was not a fun experience nor was having to spend extra money. We had to buy a minifridge and an additional icebox so our food wouldn't go bad as well as to house something during that time. We also spent extra money on food and eating out all the time because our claim wasn't a priority. That was expensive. American Home Shield didn't seem to care and they did not seem to want to expedite our claim.
In the end, the fridge was fixed but we called many times. This was after so many calls, negotiations, and complaints. The first technician American Home Shield sent over told us what the problem was but he does not have the license to fix our fridge so we called over again. We were especially surprised that they sent over some person who does not have a license. We called American Home Shield and we had to explain a lot of things. They were going to send over the first guy again but the service company said they couldn't do it because they weren't Kenmore-compliant. We had to go with the next guy and we had to call multiple times to get them.
The second technician has a license to fix the fridge. We were very happy with him because he was very helpful and he put in our request. He helped us and he answered questions about the fridge. He said the problem was the compressor, which was the same thing that the first guy said. It took so long to fix the fridge and American Home Shield is totally to blame for that. They should have expedited ordering the part. American Home Shield did not want to contact Sears about getting the compressor. At one point, they told us to contact Sears so we did. Sears said, "We'll go ahead and do that. We'll send out our repairman to do it. You'll have to pay him for the labor to assess it, and then we'll order the part for you, and then you'll have to pay him for the labor to put the compressor in. But we'll give you a free compressor 'cause it is under warranty."
We paid for a warranty. If something goes wrong, American Home Shield should be there to fix that situation. The repair should be done in a timely fashion and not a couple of months later. American Home Shield should be doing the heavy lifting, not us. Also, all the phone calls are outsourced. There should be somebody to contact at least here in Nevada. We shouldn't have to make multiple phone calls. The biggest thing was we couldn't contact anybody with American Home Shield. That means somebody's getting fat off of just accepting the money and outsourcing everything and still making the money or else they wouldn't be in business. American Home Shield needs to think about their customers as human beings.
Considering all the cases together, most of the claims were fixed fine. This includes the two AC problems last year where technicians came over fast and fixed them. We also had a heater problem. The technician was very professional and he replaced a few parts without any hesitating. That one was fixed very fast so we were very happy. Talking to the air conditioning repairman, he said American Home Shield one of the better warranty companies. With the exception of our claim for our fridge, we would recommend American Home Shield to friends. It's just that the experience with the fridge was so horrible. We were feeling helpless in a way because it was just wrong and nothing could and would be done.

Typically, when we have a home repair, there is some sort of health care urgency. We can't be without electricity and we can't let leaks go unaddressed because I'm allergic to mold. Because of my asthma, COPD, and the two other lung diseases I have, I often have to ask for expedited service. There is no option for requesting medical expedite for service when I go online. So, I'm left with the telephone option and I have to wait a ridiculously long time. But, once I get a new claim submitted, the system works. AHS's vendors really value their relationship with them. AHS jumps through hoops to make sure they get a quality person to do quality work.
I called my plumbing claim on New Year's Eve and Home Shield got somebody out to diagnose the issue on the Saturday after New Year's Day. It was remarkable for them to get somebody out on a Saturday during the holidays. Part of the solution was a new faucet that he could install in a way that would be sealed and secured and so it would not leak. He told me exactly what kind of faucet to get and how to get it. He gave me choices of brands. He came back and installed that today. I'm very pleased with the plumber. He was very professional, timely, courteous, and friendly. He was an expert at doing what he needed to do to fix the problem. I was pleased with the financial arrangement as well. I paid my $75 copay for a service call and the tech came back out a second time at no charge to install the faucet.

American Home Shield and JR Plumbing were great. At first, I thought that the guys were running late. But I went back and looked and it was a timeframe that they had given me. But right after I had called them, they called me, said they'd be there in 15 minutes, and they were. The only problem I had was that they didn't speak much English. So, I was unable to communicate with them much. The guy handed me the paper and I asked if it was done and he nodded his head. They were very professional, and they did a great job. It took them maybe 15 minutes to do what they needed to do. American Home Shield is the best deal that we could make. Paying monthly is great. It's like a little savings account for home repairs. Also, it's very easy to submit a claim online. I like doing it that way.

I've had two claims with AHS. It wasn’t difficult to submit the claims. The difficulty is getting them to finish the work. The oven was before Christmas and that's still not fixed. The tech's waiting for parts and he's not been in contact with me so that's very frustrating. For the second claim, I have a pump and it was overflowing. The plumber that came out just tapped on the pipe and he said it's fixed. But, it's not fixed because it could be a loose wire. So I wasn't happy with either experience. I'd love to see AHS follow up on their workers that they're hiring.

The process with AHS is simple. I just go online and choose what the problem is and they have somebody to call me to set up an appointment. Recently, the washer wouldn't go through the complete wash cycle as far as the spinning and draining of the water. The guy knew exactly what it was within the first five minutes. He had the part in his truck, replaced the part and was out in 20 minutes tops.

The guy from Martin's Appliance and Repair came out and checked my stove. It had a bad knob on it, the one that controls the heat. He also checked the dishwasher and found that all the elements were working fine on that. Then he replaced the ice maker on the refrigerator. He was excellent. Everything works as expected. I usually get good service with American Home Shield and I haven’t had any problems with them.

The heat completely turned off one day after working the previous day. I put in the order for someone to come out and Henson came out. It turned out to be a issue with the thermostat, which they went ahead and put in a new one. The tech was here for about an hour total. He was very professional and people-oriented. I knew he wasn't lying about anything he said. He wasn't trying to upsell me on anything. So it was a good experience. Submitting the claim was a simple process. But the only thing was that I didn't see every option on there. For example, I had to put in another claim with my fireplace but it wasn't on there at all. But the cost to have the insurance is completely fine. I didn't have to pay for the thermostat when it needed to be changed because it was under warranty, so it's really beneficial.

The response time is pretty fast between filing the claim through American Home Shield versus when I get a phone call from the service provider. They say the disclaimer that it's within 24 hours but it's usually within an hour or two that I get a phone call from the service provider. However, when I need to talk to somebody, it is impossible to wade my way through the computer-activated nonsense. If I wanna talk to someone, I don't wanna have to push all those buttons to be able to talk to someone. Other than that, it's been a good experience. I had a plug that has a dimmer switch to it and that part wasn't working, but it also wouldn't even cut on. So, I made a claim with AHS. Then, the tech from MaeDae Electric came out and fixed it on the same day. In the past, I would call AHS and instantly get a person, which was great. But I noticed that in the last two years, even right before the COVID, it's taking longer to get a person and I have to hold on the phone for a much longer time than I ever had. I've been with American Home Shield for almost 20 years now and when I'd put in a claim, I used to be on a 10-minute hold at the most. But now, it's a 30-minute hold. Once he cleaned that coil, the heat started working and my thermostat was working properly. I also used American Home Shield twice before and it was good. One time, my water heater was leaking at the top. The guys came out and fixed that. Then, they came out for my AC unit that wasn't pushing right. Getting ahold of somebody is difficult. Scheduling is easy, at least when you get the company assignment. Like getting someone on American Home Shield, I do have the app. But sometimes the app doesn't give the option that you need for something that's broken. There are certain times where you're looking for a specific component that's not working that needs to be fixed, and the comments box works, but that information doesn't seem to get passed on to the vendor either. It just put something in the comment.
AHS is hit-or-miss, especially now. But we've had issues with getting through the call centers before. And I've done customer service and call centers before, and typically, they have a three-strike policy where, after three times you say you want to speak with the supervisor, they are required to get you to a supervisor. It's not happening right now. There is a lot of those nitpicky things that, being in the customer service field for a long time that I was, it's not a good time when you tell them, "Oh, they'll call you back," but they don't call you back.

My refrigerator stopped working. It’s a double door and it stopped freezing on one side and not really getting that cold on the other. The temperature thing kept going on and off. Quality Services came out and found out what was going on with it and told me they had to order a part. We were without our refrigerator for a while, but then once they got the part, they called me and set up appointment, came out and took care of it.
I had a problem with the garbage disposal. It was another problem with the plumbing out in the pivot on the water hose attached to the house. When the company came, they said, “Well, can you reset it?” The garbage disposal came back on. The tech went out and said, “There's nothing we can do about that. It won’t be covered. And it's gonna cost you about $675 to get it fixed.” I just went off as he already told me it wasn't gonna get covered. When I spoke to AHS, they were saying his reports said that it wasn't normal wear and tear. It kind of sound like we broke it, but we didn’t. It wasn't broke, it worked and then it just stopped coming on and off. When I called they said, “Well it’s covered under the plumbing.” Then when the tech came out, he said it wasn’t normal wear and tear. Then he tried to charge me $675 to get it fixed. I ended up calling one of these referral companies. They came out and fixed it for $55.
The only thing is even before anybody comes out, American Home Shield deducts $100. They want it upfront before you even give what the problem is. I always tell someone to shop around but I wouldn't have a problem recommending AHS. I recommended them. One thing I did like about them is they don't have a binding contract. I do have that choice.

I have two toilets in my mobile home and they both clogged up. TAZ plumbing came but they clogged up again within the next week. The tech came out and cleaned them again and told me that because I should under certain medication that I am probably responsible for the clogs myself. There were no issues with him coming back although I tried to get the tech out on a holiday. I'm 76 years old and I have two clogged up toilets. She didn't consider that an emergency and said they were gonna charge me an extra $279. I don't have that kind of money.
I got a little upset. I said I have a contract. When I worked at a plumbing company, if I had a contract person call in, I had a priority. She didn't see it that way and so I went over the holiday weekend plus two more days with no functioning toilets. The only thing I could do was get in my car and drive from my mobile home park 10 miles into town to use a toilet. Instead, I kept using my toilets and my house stunk. I couldn't help it so I was not happy with that.
The same thing happened when I moved in a year and a half ago. I used my provider and they wanted to run the lines and charge me $5,000. I couldn't do it. So, I just had them come out and clear the lines which costs me $100 every year. Still, it's the plumber answering service that I had an issue with, not the plumbers. I love my Home Shield. They responded when I told them that the plumber wouldn't come out the first time. They had one at my house in less than an hour. They do their job completely. I highly recommend AHS.

The contractors are usually pretty good and very responsive for the most part. They've worked on heating and air, minor pipe leaks and lighting issues, and they were resolved. However, a little bit more upfront description on what's covered and what's not might be better. If there's a way to get more detail that are a little bit easier to access than going into the policy itself, that would be helpful to the customer.

He did the service, which wasn't to my satisfaction, but according to the contract, it wasn't something they would perform. He fixed the leak. Then a minor problem occurred, he had to cut off the handle that turns the shower on and off. He said that American Home Shield wouldn't cover the replacement of it. Knowing how restrictive they are, I agreed. I knew not to argue with him. I called American Home Shield, and I told them that when the contractor came out, I had a leak, which he fixed, but I still couldn't use the shower because he didn't replace the cut off handle. They sent the guy back out. He did fix it.
I am unhappy with every time I go through American Home Shield, they send out a contractor that has like a 1-rating or a flag on Better Business Bureau, but things seem to get fixed sometimes more efficiently than others. The dishwasher control panel went out. I submitted the claim. American Home Shield assigned me Aaron's. I called them. I explained what it was, and they said, “All right. We'll send a guy out to analyze it.” And he did. He came right out right when they said they did. The best part was he didn't say, “Hey, he’ll be there anytime between 8:00 in the morning and midnight.” They said, “He'll be out there at 8:30.” Almost always, the repair guys have to come out, analyze it, and go, “Oh, I need to order this such and such part.” So, he ordered the part. The gal in the office called and said, “Hey, we've ordered the part. I'll call you when I get the part.” A week later, she called and said, “We have the part. Let’s schedule.” Got on the schedule, and he said, “How about Saturday at 9:30?” And about 9:35, Matthew showed up. He got in the dishwasher, replaced the part, and it ran. And he went away.
I have had some issues with other claims. AHS sent me a couple of not so good repair companies. So, we’ve had to then redo it and get a different company out. My oven went for four months. It was horrible. And then, I would call AHS, and they would say, “Your wait time is three hours.” I finally got ahold of them through Facebook, and then had a conversation with somebody doing Facebook messaging to get that resolved. This time with the dishwasher, it went exactly how I thought it should always go. And the people at the appliance place were prompt. They kept me informed what was going on. And I always expect it would take them a bit to get a part. I get that part. That doesn't bother me. It's when I get put off, or they don't call me back. But Aaron's did a great job.

My experience is that, firstly, if you try and get American Home Shield on the phone, it's very difficult. Because they just don't have enough people to answer the phone, they obviously can't be bothered. But if you submit your claim online, then they will come back usually the next day and say, “We've appointed so and so to be your repair people.” Then it may take a day or two for the repair people to get in touch with you. And then, it may take some time for the repair people to give you an appointment. For example, Sears, is you would finally get in touch with them and they say, “Well, we can give you an appointment. We can come out in two weeks,“ which is ridiculous. So, my experience has been mixed.
The other thing is that most of the time, the thing gets fixed, and that's fine. I've had two instances where AHS couldn't fix the appliance. The first one was some years ago. And they were pretty good about replacing the appliance. This time, the thing couldn't be fixed. It has taken me six weeks to get them to respond and say, “Yes. We really are gonna replace the appliance. And we really are gonna do what we're supposed to do.” That involved me calling them at least twice a week. I would always speak to some extremely polite Filipino who was reading from a script and say, “Yes. We understand how important it is. And of course, we're gonna be really responsive. And I'll look into this right away, and I'll talk to my boss, and we'll call you back tomorrow.” But I have never got a callback from any of those calls.
I have been with AHS for years. There is more than once I've thought, “Okay. I've had enough. I'm fed up, and I'm gonna change.” The only reason I haven't changed is because I have no confidence that any other company similar to AHS would actually get any better. All’s well that ends well. But it has been extremely frustrating.
In this case, when I talked about Sears, it was our refrigerator freezer. It was broken. The original claim to repair the thing was in July. First, it would take a couple of weeks for Sears to come out. And then the guys, “Oh yeah, it really is broken. Need some parts. We’ll order the parts. Wait a couple of weeks." Then the guy would come and say, “Oops, we don't have all the parts. We need to wait for all the parts.” That was another two weeks. And then finally, the guy came out. Had all the parts. Said it was fixed, left. And the next day, it was clearly unfixed. So, then we called again, another two weeks. Finally, in the middle of November, they said, “Okay. Enough time has passed that under the rules of AHS, we can't get the parts. Time's up. You're now okay to get a replacement.” I got my email from American Home Shield today saying, “Okay. Yeah, it's all sorted out. And we're gonna send you the money.”
The Wright Refrigeration guy was very responsive and nice. Now, I’m entering into the same thing. He has come out, diagnosed the problem. Said in this case, our oven needs a new thermostat. Apparently, KitchenAid is out of stock with the thermostats. They don't know when they will be in stock. Again, we have to wait weeks by the time the part comes. But at least the guy answers the phone. And if KitchenAid is out of parts, they’re out of parts. That I can't really hold against anybody except KitchenAid.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

The claim for my washing machine was a good one. The person who came was from Morning Star and he was awesome. Morning Star worked with us before under Choice Warranty before we moved to American Home Shield. The tech was apprenticing his son. They diagnosed the problem and got it done very quickly. They didn't leave until they completed the job and they put everything back in the way they found it.
To submit a claim to American Home Shield isn't bad. The problem is we had problems with our first claim with American Home Shield and it happened to be our plumbing. Showers Plumbing came out and they were horrible but American Home Shield would not listen to us about them. They didn't care that they did a good or bad job. Showers Plumbing came out to unclog my drain and left the drain clogged. They brought the clog back up to the drain and it was in the tub so they went through the overflow. The drain was clear from the overflow valve through to the pipe but they backed the clog up through the drain to the overflow valve so the tub was never unclogged. I had to do my own plumbing. They had to send the same people back to fix the problem. They broke my faucet while they were here and never repaired the hot water heater, which is still leaking as of today.
American Home Shield doesn't care that the problem is not fixed. There is still water leaking in my basement everywhere. I've given up. But American Home Shield at least let us call a second plumber for the faucet. They came out and fixed it right away because it was leaking so much under the sink. It was probably two gallons of water an hour under my sink because Showers Plumbing who came to look at it beat on it and made it break even worse. It was really bad.
I'm to the point where if I didn't already pay my premium, I would be back with Choice Home Warranty. Even though it was a pain in the butt sometimes, they were very good and responsive. They at least cared about their client. I was with American Home Shield for 12 years and I jumped away from them and went to Choice then I went back to American Home Shield. I went away from American Home Shield because all they want is more money and they don't do a good job. They care less about the vendors they pick to supply services.

I had a leaky drain and the service guys who came did very good. They knew what they were doing. They came and looked at it, saw what they needed, then went and got a part somewhere and came back and put it all on. From start to finish, it took less than two hours. I've only been with American Home Shield a few months and this was the first time I needed something. Their online thing worked good. The previous company I had signed up with, I asked if they had service providers in the area for everything covered, and they lied to me and said they did. Then when I had a claim after three months, nothing was done. They had absolutely nobody contracted in the state of Michigan, yet they have a valid license to practice and have their business in Michigan. AHS is much better because they actually had service providers.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

But calling is very cumbersome with the lines jumping through hoops that I have to get to somebody to speak to. Water Wise Plumbing came out timely and did the job. This is probably one of the better services I had. It depends on the contractor that AHS goes with.

When we call American Home Shield for any type of service, we do get a response and someone comes within a day or so. They will appoint a company to us to fix anything and whatever service it was, it would be fixed right away. The guy who came for the furnace was fine. Their company was good. He walked in, saw the problem and took care of it. I had the service while I was living in Jersey for about 10 years. I've had them down here in Florida for almost two years now. The only thing I don't like is that one ticket per call. I made a call for my microwave. Then a day later, I made a call for my furnace. When I called for the microwave, I was like, “What else needs fixing here?” I was trying to find something. Then we went to turn the heat on, and it didn't work. I was like, “Damn it. Now we gotta pay again for them to come.”

Express Appliance came out for the dryer, the dishwasher, and the icemaker. These appliances weren't working properly and it was easy to submit the claim. American Home Shield gave me three to five days to expect the techs but there was a holiday in between there. They called prior to coming and they were professional.
The icemaker is fine and the dryer itself is fixed, but I have to have the vents cleaned. So, I have not yet started using the dryer. I needed another piece for the dishwasher. But when Express Appliance went to fix it, they realized that something else was wrong. So, I wished that everything would have been thoroughly checked with the dishwasher on the initial visit. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the experience because, although they didn't do a thorough check on the dishwasher, their lines of communication are open. The guy said that because of how my dishwasher was set, they were ordering an expensive part to make sure that things wouldn't actually break.

American Home Shield charges me every month but they never send me quality people to fix things. Whenever I have an issue, AHS doesn’t help right away. I’m not happy with them. They’re terrible and I'm getting ready to leave. I’ve been with them for eight years and this house was built brand-new so I didn't have issues then. But now that I'm having issues, it's always the issue to get something fixed. I called this summer about my AC and it’s still not fixed, and it’s wintertime. I complained about it. It would be summer again and it's still not fixed.

I had my furnace go out on the night before Christmas Eve. That night, it was really cold. So, I called American Home Shield and made a request. They called me back and said that they had a gentleman that would be here the next day, which was Christmas Eve. He'd be here between noon and 5:00, and would let me know when he was on his way. They texted me about 11:00 and said that he would be here within the next 30 minutes. He was here like 20 minutes later. I let him know what the problem was, he knew exactly what was going on and went right to the problem. Within 20 minutes, he had it all fixed and he replaced the part. It was pretty good.
The claim submission process went really simple. I wrote the narrative for what the problem was, and they had things sent to me and coordinated for the guy to get here. It was very easy. You have to understand the house itself, how old the house is, and the utilities that you're putting under warranty, and the amount of money you want to pay for that service. I went with both plans, so I have full service on everything. It’s like $125. If I spend $125 once a year for something that breaks like that, it's well worth it.

The tech was really good. I've had him out twice. The first time, he replaced a blower on my heater. He took it out, fixed it in his car or truck, and brought it back in. It hasn't even been a month yet, but so far, it's doing fine. Then last week, my air conditioning compressor went out and I was really worried about that. He came out and said it was just a stopped up drain line and he unstopped it. So far, it's been working ever since. He was able to find things and fixed them that were not very expensive, and I appreciated that. I really liked him a lot because he was professional and quiet. He just did his work and left. I read some very not good reviews of A-US Air and so I was a little bit leery about them. But I've been lucky that I got this guy. So far, I've been very pleased 'cause it hadn't cost me over $75, which was what I agreed to, so everything was done in that time.

The person that American Home Shield sent out was local. He was from David's Appliance. He was wonderful. He went above and beyond. I am so happy with him. He did a phenomenal job. If they had vendors like that person in his office, everyone would be happy. Everything got paid and fixed. The other two times I called, I was very unhappy though. I would have canceled, but I literally sat online with them for an hour, trying to cancel, and then I just hung up and just never got back to it.
The claim was for an air conditioning issue. They sent someone out that was literally more than an hour away from my home. They were going to fix the coil. That was the part that was broken. That was approved. But this company came in and said that I needed a laundry list of new things to include a new pan and a new switch. My house, at that time, was only seven years old. It was ridiculous. It didn't need to be changed because I ended up paying out of pocket for that coil. None of those parts got changed because they weren't broken. That's how those people were going to get paid. So, it was a racket.
It pissed me off so badly that I told them not to come back to my house, and that I never wanted to do business with them again. I just asked to be paid out for that coil. They were going to give me $350 for a coil that costs over $2,000. I understand that it would be less, but that wouldn't even have paid for the part. So, I just pretty much told them to get bent and I just paid for it because I was mad. I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield because of the experience I had. I'm not going to recommend someone that has done a bad job for me.

We’ve been a customer of American Home Shield for two years and this claim went fine. It was a refrigerator. The freezer wouldn’t open and close properly and that was causing ice to build up. The tech came in, diagnosed the problem, determined that we needed some kind of a new part in our freezer that would make the door open and close more easily and would seal it tight. It took about a week for him to get the part and I understand that. In this pandemic situation, parts are hard to get so no problem there. He informed us that it was gonna be a wait. It was about nine days. He came out again and fixed it. It seems to work fine and we're satisfied with that. The guy knew what he was doing and fixed the problem. We appreciate the help. But it isn’t always like that.
We’ve had AHS contractors a number of times and we found out that the quality of who they send out varies. Some of the people come out and they have no clue what they're doing. But AHS provides a good service. They have a roster of technicians and they should make sure that they send out good ones. If they could make sure that they maintain quality among the vendors that they send, that would enhance their service. The value in AHS comes in knowing you can budget. If something breaks down, you’re looking at the deductible of $100 to get it fixed if it's a covered repair. So, there's a lot of value in that.

It's extremely simple to submit claims. You can do it online. And then American Home Shield confirms it back with a text message or an email, and sends an email with who was assigned to the job. And then the contractor contacts you. I had a problem with the outside hose bib. Home Choice Services came over and just took care of the issue. The gentlemen that came out wore masks and was very safe, even working outside.
American Home Shield should drop the cost. But for us, it has been very good service. In my case, I had to go on disability and retire early, so we were just looking at a way to normalize our cost, protect for any spikes in the budget, and it has done that. They have an option to pick 10 and you can add on a few extra things. In my case, I added my garage door opener and a couple of other things, and it has worked out well. There were three people that I had already recommended, and they are also very happy with it.

Our water heater went out and so we made a claim with American Home Shield to get the water heater looked at. I did the claim online on their app and was assigned a plumber. The plumber called and set up the appointment. They came out and gave their recommendations for needing to replace the entire water heater. Once I gave the okay and agreed to the cost that American Home Shield didn't cover, they set up the appointment. Once the water heater came in, they set the appointment, came out and installed it.
I was a little hesitant in submitting a claim at first because the last time I put a request in online, it didn't go through right and I ended up getting charged for the $100 fee that they charge right away. Then somehow, the claim got canceled saying that it was done but it wasn't done. When I called American Home Shield to tell them that it was done in mistake, they took another $100 and they still never had that redeposited back into my bank account. I just gave up the fight.
Alvarez Plumbing Services was really cool. Given that it was right around Christmas time, we were very concerned about how it was going to go down. But they pretty much kept us well informed of the process and where we were at and what the expectation was and why it was going to take the time that it took. But it didn't take an exuberant amount of time. It was just unfortunate because it was over Christmas. But my husband seemed very pleased with the work done. He can be nitpicky. So if he's not complaining then he's happy.
When my dishwasher had broken down, I almost canceled the service because it was such a horrendous experience. After calling American Home Shield, they asked me to do the claim on their website. I went to their website and I did it. Then I noticed that after they called me and they talked to me about starting the service, they had put that it was my washing machine, not my dishwasher. So I called them back and I said that it was not the right appliance. Then them trying to switch it and make it better, they canceled it out. When they reopened it, they charged me again. When I called to try to fix that, I got ahold of a customer service agent who didn't really speak English very well and was just unbelievably rude. When I got fed up and said I wanted to talk to a manager, he flat out refused to let me talk to a manager.
I called back and said I wanted to cancel my whole service. I was done with them. When they gave me a new individual to talk to to do the whole canceling my service thing, and that person said that they were sorry and that he couldn't believe that this happened. Also, he said that he could get somebody out there right away if I'd give them a second chance. They'd get me a refund of the $100 that they charged me, plus they'd give me a credit. He also said that this repair would be on them. I said okay because I just wanted my dishwasher fixed. But they never credited the $100 that they charged me and they never fixed it. It ended up costing me $200. I would recommend American Home Shield to a degree. But be careful about entering claims. As long as there are not any complications in entering the claim, it does what it says it's going to do. The turnaround time isn't horrible and you get your stuff fixed. I also haven't had them deny a claim.

The website is terrible. I go to renew my payments online and I can't make a full-time payment for one year. They wanted to do it in increments monthly. There should be a choice on payment – not just method, but payment amount. It would also be very nice, when somebody has stayed with them for eight years and has multiple policies, to give us a discount for paying in full every year. Recently, a man came for our dishwasher, diagnosed it and had to go order the part. It's still ongoing, even though it says completed. It needs a new electronic board, which they hopefully have ordered. They're going to call me and have it come in.

My hot water heater in the home wasn't working well. I wasn't getting hot water in my bathroom right away. It was taking eight minutes to even heat up and it was making a loud knocking noise due to corrosion inside of it. It's over 10 years old but because it was still functioning, there was nothing that could be done. On my second claim with American Home Shield, I had to call again and pay the other $75 to deploy the contractor to come out because my washing machine broke. So, they came out, ordered a part, came back, installed it and thought they fixed the problem. The washing machine is old. The new part gave a sort of a reinvigoration of the auger part of the washing machine, it ended up burning up the motor. So currently, the washing machine has a burnt-out motor, which Apex is ordering now. They have to come back out for the fourth time to reinstall a new motor on an old washing machine.
AHS has been great minus them not being able to fix the water heater. The description is that it's not physically not working or something's leaking, then we can't just replace it. I understand that. They've been nothing but responsive and kind in getting Apex Plumbing out here four times and not repeatedly charging me for it. Apex has also been great about making repairs. So, I'm not complaining about anything. I'm just grateful to have AHS. They’re extremely responsive. They dispatch somebody, and you get a text and an email communication. They follow up. So, it's been good overall, I would recommend it.

When the technician came, I led him to the garage. With COVID-19 and based on experience from work, I did his temperature. He was very receptive and had me taking his temperature. Then I showed him the washing machine in the laundry room right next to the garage. Everything went great. He was in and out in 15 minutes. He was very courteous. This was the second time I've had to make any calls to date and I've had no issues, except for the length of time to get a technician. It took three to four days for someone to come out.

We had a stovetop replaced. A guy came in and he knew what he was doing. When he picked up the stovetop and took the old one off, I had a straight razor out to clean around it before he put the other one on. He said he'd do it. He took it, scraped everything then he pushed everything on top of the pans in the hole. When he left, there were screws. He took the packaging but didn't clean up anything else. I had to wash everything. But he did a good job installing. Recently, the furnace was fried. A guy came out and gave an estimate but I don't know if I do wanna go with him. I do know somebody that has been recommended to us who supposedly does really good work. I might wanna get a second opinion because it is such a big component of the house. I don't know what a good amount is. I did ask AHS three days ago but I haven't gotten any information. We're living on space heaters and it's going down to 20 every night this week.

If we go the online route submitting claims to American Home Shield, that's easy enough. But, if we try to go over the phone or if it's any time after 5:00 on the weekend, it's impossible. So, it's upon the contractor to follow through anytime to do a good job. But generally, in the past year or two, I've had very, very bad experiences.
We've thought about going with another company because there's no way I can reach American Home Shield or a contractor in case of an emergency like when there's water leakage and it's causing damage. AHS assumes no responsibility. If it's extremely cold and my heating system broke down, there is no way that they will get back to me in time. If the contractor is not picking up the call, they will take their ideal time. A lot of times when I reach out to these contractors and beg them to come and they usually say that they don't get treated the best way possible so the claims that come through insurance companies are not their highest priority.
If I'm lucky, I get in touch with a contractor that is happy to do the job. If they're not, American Home Shield will not intervene to expedite the process in any way. Like with my dishwasher which has broken down six times, twice it has happened that the tech's car broke down or he had an emergency and nobody would act on it. There's no accountability. We have some rental properties too that we always need a backup person to go to if we need something done right away. AHS is not the best way to go. At times, we have paid privately and just gotten work done because we needed to get it done.

It was very cold at that time and our other heat ran extra. My husband put in a claim and that was simple to do. A gentleman came out Monday. This service company always tells us they're going to come and they call to say they are a few minutes out. The gentleman had been here before and he was very helpful. The unit is in a bad place. It's under our house and it's a pain because you have to crawl under there. We've had American Home Shield for a long time and they've been helpful when we needed them. We've had a couple of different problems with this refrigerator. They've come out each time, solved each of the problems and I was very happy with the service that this vendor, Cooper Appliances, provided. We put a thermometer in both the freezer and the fridge, and it fell within the range that the technician said it should fall in. So, the problem was more than adequately resolved.

Sometimes what happens is they will go back and get the permissions on parts and then come back. The time lag wasn't there, so that is what I liked. He did a good job. He replaced the pipe that was a little bit broken there. But I had two bald guys who serviced me for other issues. I would prefer some other contractor instead of them. They should have done a better job. Every time they said, "We need permission to do this. We need permission to do that." The monthly rates of AHS have been going up as well. The only thing I would like to see changed is to be a little more selective on the contractor American Home Shield picks. Because my last experience with the contractor they sent was the worst I've ever seen since I started with them. There is no way in hell it's gonna take an hour for somebody to finish something because somebody is inefficient. Also, to try local contractors first. At least they are more accessible and easier to work with than somebody from coming from out of town. Lastly, you have to read the terms sometimes very well. Because I had to pay a whopping fee deductible last September when they fixed my AC. I did not expect to approve $8,000 for something I thought is supposed to be covered.

I just hope American Home Shield reduces my monthly payment. And I want to know why one home deductible is higher than the other. I have to pay $100 for one home, and I pay $107 for any issue automatically from the smaller home I have in North Carolina. But I enjoy their service and they do an excellent job. They respond very quickly and I like that, although I could pay less for not having them in some situations. But you never know what that situation would be. We have an external outdoor whirlpool that's not connected to the pool. We paid an extra fee to our home warranty to service that. And when I went to turn on the whirlpool, the gas heater that heats the water quickly would turn off immediately so there was no way to make the whirlpool hot because the gas turns on and stays on and it heats that water and it runs it through pipes. This is what was explained to me. And then that's what heats up the whirlpool. I tried to self-help it using YouTube to try to get the gas to work so that it would stay lit. And then that would heat the water. That did not work so then I turned it into our home warranty.
They assigned ABNation. He came out and assessed the problem that it could be the ignition thing that starts the gas and keeps it running until it can run on its own and had burned out. He called it in to American Home Shield to see if they would get approval. And then, he let me know that they approved it and it would be a week before the part came in. He called me the next week and said, “I'm in your area. The part came in. Can I come in and repair it at this point in time?” I said, “Sure.” He came in and repaired it. He accessed it himself, fixed it, and the next day, I checked to make sure the heater worked and it worked fine and that was the end of the issue.
I've had the home warranty ever since we've lived in this house, which has been six years. We've had ABNation come out for various things for the last two years. We love them because they're timely. They are supposed to call within 24 hours. They call right away. He's supposed to make an appointment. And they always keep their appointment to come when they are supposed to come or they come early. And a lot of the subcontractors get a call and, “Oh, it'll be tomorrow,” or, “I'm running about six hours late,” or, “I'm on my way” and then it turns out to be six hours later. ABNation is the first subcontractor we've had that we actually like. “What? He's on time?” It has been crazy. But we just assume that our warranty doesn't pay very well so they get beginners or drunks that can't maintain jobs. We have renewed our optimism about our home warranty just based on ABNation.
I’m still a bit down on American Home Shield because we had a central air go out. The contractor came out and they said that the unit had too much debris and all that stuff and that is what killed the unit. When I talked to HVAC people, they were like, “Yeah, this is an outdoor unit. Pine straw is not going to destroy it. There's other issues going on.” We don't disagree that the unit didn’t need to be replaced. We just thought that was shoddy to say that it was our fault for not clearing away pine straw to an outdoor unit. But I felt like the warranty companies, “Yeah, we don't want to get into that.” So, per unit, we get a maximum out of pocket of $1,000 or $2,0000, and our warranty graciously gave us $300 because of the pine straw. That was kind of chintzy. But they have to be ruthless in order to make money.

When you call, somebody comes on it and they ask you what's wrong in your house. You tell them what's wrong and before you get off the phone, they collect the payment. Then they'll give you a confirmation number and email who's coming.
The guy from City Plumbing was good and very nice. He had his mask on and was very professional. I told him my garbage disposal got a hole in it because it was leaking under. He took his flashlight and confirmed there was a hole. He asked how long I've had it and I told him it'll be 16 years in July. He said he'd go ahead and get me a new one. He went out there and got a new one. In less than 20 minutes, he had put the garbage disposal on.
Right before Thanksgiving, the oven door broke off. I called AHS and they sent somebody out. A guy came out and said they were going to try to locate the part that was worn. A couple of weeks went by and the home warranty sent me an email. They were gonna replace my oven. I emailed them back then we talked. The rep said, “Every time I pull your contract up, it keeps saying that you requested your ice maker.” I told her to call the people they sent to my house and they'd tell her what kind of oven it was. She said, “Could you take pictures of the inside and measure for me because we’re gonna replace it.” That was almost two weeks ago. Sometimes, you have to wait a long time but that's the norm now.
Last time, the air conditioner was smoking so I called. It took them about a couple of weeks to get a new air conditioner. They sent someone out and I paid $480 for freon. It lasted me two weeks. I was livid so I called them back. They said they were going to send someone else. I told them to send that same guy back to my house. They got a habit of sending different people and I don't like that. They sent the same guy back and he let them know that the air compressor was gone on the unit. It was so many years old and they replaced it.

The guy from A-1 Accurate Appliance Repair had to order a part and it took a long time. I could never call him to find out what the status was. He either never answered his phone or he was always busy. I was a little upset. But then, it was finally fixed. Everything works now.

My heater wasn't heating up. I sent a claim in with AHS and the process was fast and easy. Then, the tech came out and her name was Edith. She was very professional. She showed up with facemask and her shoe covering. She went on to work right away, promptly discovered the issue, and resolved it. Everything's been good since she'd been out.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was a piece of cake. The techs who came were professional, timely, clean and did the repair as requested. They wore face masks, and social distancing wasn't an issue because I wasn't hanging around by them. When it was time to sign the tablet, we put it at the end of the counter, and the tech stepped back. So, he was doing precautions.
A compressor was replaced on the refrigerator. It needed to be ordered. They explained that there are only so many people available that specialized in that. We didn't push the issue because we have another refrigerator and a separate chest freezer, so we were covered. Otherwise, we would have pushed the issue because then, it was something like the air conditioner and refrigerator. They offered a timeframe, but I wasn't available when they said they had availability. So, it might've been a week and a half that the whole thing was completed.

I had some issues with my heat. It was coming on but there was no heat coming through the vent. Submitting a claim online to American Home Shield wasn't difficult but I didn't like the fact that they just automatically generated a company. I ended up having to call and request another one. I requested M & Holmes HVAC instead of the original contractor and they came and fixed my issues. The service was exceptional. The techs did the job and it was quick and easy. They explained why the unit was like it was. My heating has been working ever since. AHS has been okay so far. We had some hiccups last year but I'm satisfied with them to keep the business going.

I'm very satisfied with AHS. The most recent claim was for three electrical outlets and two lights that weren't coming on. The guy was very friendly and he showed up on time. It was a good experience. However, we realized yesterday that one of the lights that he'd come to fix wasn't working still.
I am happy that you were happy with your experience. Although we hope there are no issues with anything in the home in the future, we are here to service you anytime you need us. Thanks for continuing your business with us. Take care!

AHS is extremely helpful. I woke up to go to the hospital on a Wednesday and the house was on 58 degrees. I filed my claim on the way to the hospital and they said that they'd have somebody out there Monday. Sure enough, they came. Apparently, it was a mouse that crawled over to electrical contacts in the circuit and it shorted out. The guy was really helpful. He fixed it, talked to me, and he was on about his business. If there's a way, I’d prefer him to come back every time. He was very professional and very personable. He seemed to do everything right. I'm not a HVAC guy but it was like he knew what he was doing and I didn’t have a problem at all.

The tech that came out for our recent claim with AHS was very helpful. Our furnace went out Saturday evening and we didn't know what happened. It turns out we had the wrong furnace filter in there, so it was causing the air not to blow through and causing it to get really hot till the furnace shut down. Submitting the claim was fine. However, we called to find out what our coverage was in case the furnace needed to be replaced and the people we talked to were four different people and they wouldn't tell us. They kept saying they needed a diagnosis from the repair people. It also sounded like the people we were talking to read from scripted responses. If somebody is not certain on how to answer something, they should ask for help instead of just repeating the same response over and over.

I've had one bad experience about my air conditioning. Other than that, the claims process was fairly easy. But prior to the tech coming out, they should notify me at least 30 minutes to an hour so I can prepare or make sure that someone is here and that they're using a proper dress and facial coverage. When the tech from DrainGo came out, he was quite professional, quiet, and very nice. He wore a mask. He was quite good.

The tech from Accord Appliance was very professional. What happened was pretty typical. He diagnosed the issue and ordered a part. I called American Home Shield to file the claim. Calling is not faster or easier but the websites don’t work. American Home Shield or Accord Appliance, neither one, the websites were useless. American Home Shield’s website was impossible to deal with. They didn't have clothes dryers as an option. You have to click on what appliance and what wasn’t working. They had a clothes washer, but they didn’t have a dryer. The websites don’t work very well. Other than that, my experiences have been satisfactory.
