My furnace was not shooting out heat. I called the American Home Shield number that's listed, and I followed the prompts. They instructed that East Ohio Furnace company would be contacting me. They gave a window of when they would call, but they called sooner than that window. They set up an appointment, came out and fixed the issue. The tech was knowledgeable, figured out the problem and was able to fix it quickly. I just have one billing issue with American Home Shield, but other than that, everything is good. When I talked to multiple associates, they assured me that the issue would have been resolved at renewal and it didn't. I'm kinda frustrated about that. I'm just getting my thoughts together to see if I'm going to keep it.

Versus other companies, AHS's contractor was more prompt. They called me right away rather than 12 hours later or me having to call them. Other companies say the contractor will call me within 24 hours and some of them take the full 24 hours. My drain was clogged and the plumber took an hour to figure out where to go and unclogged it. I showed him where all the drain outs were and his first couple of attempts were unsuccessful. He ended up having to get a 50-foot Roto-Rooter to go all the way through. It makes me nervous when I feel I have to give directions to experts but I'm glad he did the job. I had gone online before he arrived and his company had some pathetic reviews. But considering that it was just a clogged drain, they did a fine job.

The only hiccup was AHS didn't have a category online for what I was describing. Also, it didn't have room to explain exactly what was the issue. They said I had to call in. I did that and the girl put something down which still wasn't the right category because they didn't send the right person out. But they hurried up and sent somebody out there that next day. The tenant said they did a very good job. They fixed it so it would work until the part came in. They're gonna have to go back out again when the part comes in. I also called AHS for the shower. They got out within 48 hours, which I was pleased with. As far as I'm concerned, I liked the service.

My dishwasher was leaking and American Home Shield sent out a repairman who found the problem and ordered the parts. The only thing I didn't like was there was a long delay in terms of getting the part and sending the guy out to fix it after they've identified the problem. But that was due to COVID and parts not being available and shipping and delivery time. I didn't like it but there was nothing that they could do, so I don't hold it against them.

I had a pipe unclogged through American Home Shield. Someone was out the next day, did the job for about an hour and he was gone. My burners weren't working properly. I would put them on low and the next thing I know, there would be boiling water. The tech was supposed to come between certain hours but he was at our place in the morning when we were at a doctor's appointment. I told him everything that was going on and he said that he would order the parts. AHS said my oven is too old and that they would give us a new one. Everything has been working perfectly since the replacement. It was wonderful that we ended up getting a new stove which is much better for us. American Home Shield's contractors should come during the time that they're supposed to come but other than that, they gave great service and showed promptness in getting us the new stove.

The HVAC system wasn't able to keep up with the thermostat. It was cold in here and it didn't seem like the heat was working. So I called American Home Shield. The first time that Island Breeze came, we did the Freon replacement. But it was still cold in here so they had to send someone out again. The tech came and he mentioned that there were some backup heating strips that weren't functioning. He said he repaired wire connection system for the backup heating strips. He was really great. The system has been great. It's been able to keep up just fine and I stopped having cold feet. American Home Shield has been great so far.

The motor on the washing machine wouldn't get into gear and spin. Technicians came out and assessed the problem. About 10 days later, they brought the part back and fixed the washing machine immediately. Making a service request to American Home Shield is fairly simple. You are asked the make and model of the equipment. If I provide that, the technicians usually have parts available when they come out. They should come out prepared with the most common parts. They already make you wait anywhere from three to seven days for the appointment and another week or two for the replacement of the part.

We have had American Home Shield for two and a half years. Their claims process is good. As soon as we submitted a claim that our refrigerator isn't working, they came out here and everything went well. We've got an Electrolux French door refrigerator and the repairman came to see it. Over the course of three years, we've had this repairman out five times, and this time, he pointed out to us that there are various signs that the refrigerator is falling apart. There's some sort of plastic part, on the inside of the refrigerator part, where they see five visible hairline cracks. I never noticed them, but he pointed them out to me and said, “These are cracks. You cannot maintain an environment like you need to with these cracks.”
The repairman wheeled the refrigerator out and showed how the back sheet metal was separating from the insulation inside. He said once this sheet metal separates from inside and it's got rust running down the back, there's almost nothing he can do to make it so that it won't just happen again after he fixes it. He can make the refrigerator work again, but he's gonna have to return to do it again later on. He also showed me that there was this ice building up both in the refrigerator and in the freezer. The whole thing is beyond repair, so he said that he was going to submit the paperwork to AHS and let them know that the refrigerator is irreparable at this point.
I called American Home Shield and they said they had so many calls in front of me that they said, “Do you want us to call you back?” I said, "Yes." I went ahead and let them put me on a list of people to call back, but they haven't called us back yet. Apart from that, AHS also fixed our air conditioner awhile back and that turned out to be a permanent fix. Ever since they fixed it, it hasn't broken down again, so we feel good about them.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

Spa Doc recently came and the tech's always been very responsive, professional and reasonable. He does a quality job too. Overall, it's been a good experience with AHS. It's been very seamless online. I just go into my account and put what I need, and then they respond before the day is up. I just had some issues with the air conditioning service. The people sent out were misrepresenting work that had to be done that I had to pay out of pocket. It wasn't a good experience with them. I expressed my concern to American Home Shield about that. Other services were good like the plumbing and the pool and then I have the annual maintenance. I like that.

We had the first plumber come out and he opened the door on the garbage disposal, opened the door for the cabinets there, and said that it was cracked. He turned in a report to American Home Shield. But whatever report he turned in, it said that something hard had been in the garbage disposal. The garbage disposal was old and I didn't put anything hard in it.
When I went to appeal the decision, the American Home Shield rep sent me to their appeals group that was just another person. I was in customer service for a long time and I'd I know when you transfer me to a supervisor or to the person next to you. That person said that there was nothing that they could do. So I said that I wanted my thing returned because if they were telling me that I couldn't get my garbage disposal fixed, I would have to pay for somebody to come out and give me a second opinion. I went back and forth on this foolishness for two days. When the plumber from R.E. Willard came out, he actually opened the cabinet door, looked at the garbage disposal, and said that it was indeed cracked. I told him that I didn't crack it and the guy said that it was no problem and he would replace it. He did a very good job and it was great dealing with him.
American Home Shield needs to improve its customer service line when a customer has a problem. Submitting a claim is pretty easy but getting to their customer service is ridiculous. You dial the number of customer service and it takes you to the Philippines. They send these people over there a script to read and they cannot do anything other than reading the script. If you ask them a question that makes them have to think or do anything other than that script, they can't do it. Then, they tell you that they'll transfer you to a supervisor who will call back within an hour.
If I have a difficult problem, I normally ask if the customer service if they can get me to somebody in the United States. They'll tell me that they cannot do that. So you have to call the number back and maybe you'll go to the United States. I did that for four hours. I finally got to someone in the United States after two days because I went on their chat line online, and I said that I needed to talk to someone in the US and that person called me back.
I've been with American Home Shield for a long time. For the most part, the technicians come out, look at the issue and fix it. But some of their contractors are a little shady. They just come and look and they really don't want to do the job. But once I got somebody who really wanted to work, it was a great experience. This is the first time I've had a bad experience with American Home Shield. But with all I had to go through, I wouldn't recommend them to anybody.

Long Lane Home Services came out in the home a few times for different appliances and I have never had a problem with them. The process to submit a claim with AHS was also not hard but after the claim was submitted, I had a problem trying to get assistance with issues. So the problem was always on American Home Shield’s end, never on the technician’s end. They need to not have their services overseas. The language barrier is an issue and a supervisor should be available when requested.
My most recent experience was the worst experience that I've ever had dealing with a company in my life. In October, I submitted a request to have my dishwasher serviced. Long Lane came then they advised that the dishwasher was repairable and that they would order the parts. Unfortunately, because of COVID, the parts were on backorder and I totally understood that. Every now and again, I would call on Long Lane and they'd say they were going to check to see if the parts were available. They would say it was out of their control and we just had to wait to get the part. And they would always be gracious enough to let me know what was going on.
Around December, I called and asked how long was I supposed to wait for these parts to come in. It was not a Long Lane issue, so I tried to find out what my other options were from American Home Shield. From December up until last week, I was getting different answers every time I called. They said there was nothing they could do and that I just had to wait for the parts to come in. They also said they would escalate the issue to another department and that somebody was going to call me back. But no one would ever call back. I would ask to speak to a supervisor and they would say that a supervisor wasn't available because the rep I was talking to was working from home and couldn't transfer calls. But I was told an email would be sent and the supervisor was going to call me back the next day. But if the supervisor ever called me back, I would be a millionaire.
I would give it a couple of days, then I would call back. In December, I spoke with someone from AHS who told me that that was what they were going to do. The rep said that they were sending an email to Long Lane asking them to submit documents to tell them that the parts were still on backorder. Then once AHS gets that, they were going to escalate my claim. Then, three weeks ago, someone from AHS told me that I needed to call Long Lane myself and tell them that at this point, since it was taking too long for the parts to come in, I was requesting a cash out. But I told them that I felt like that was something that they should do. So, they said they'd call for me and that somebody was going to call me back. But I never got a call back.
About two weeks ago, I ended up calling Long Lane myself and told them what AHS was telling me. They said they were going to call to see if the parts were still on backorder and if they were, then they'd submit the information to American Home Shield for me. And they did that with no problem. Then last week, I talked to a supervisor but only because I could hear that the person was in a call center. I could hear the people in the background and I was not hanging up until he got a supervisor on the phone.
But I ended up submitting a report to the Better Business Bureau. It was ridiculous and that should not be how businesses were conducted. I just needed my dishwasher repaired or replaced. Once I sent that to the Better Business Bureau, all of a sudden, the ball was rolling. AHS was calling me back and they sent me information. So the Better Business Bureau sent that request, but I still ended up calling American Home Shield. And again, this was when I could tell that the guy was in the call center. He was said that the supervisor couldn't use his phone because of COVID and I totally understood that. But he said that the supervisor was going to call me immediately and the man did end up calling me at the time.
But before I got the supervisor, I was on the phone for 20 minutes with this person because I wasn’t letting up. He was telling me that they were waiting to still hear from a department to determine if they were going to do the cash out. But when I got on the phone with the supervisor, he said that American Home Shield was going to see if they could find the parts themselves. But I was with the other guy for 20 minutes before talking to the supervisor and he never once mentioned that to me. They were telling me different things and I've lost all faith in the company.
Then, the supervisor told me that he didn't know how long it was going to take for them to locate the parts. So, I'd have to wait again. He said that as soon as they hear something, they'd let me know and that he was going to give me a $75 credit for all of the trouble. If I’ve seen the credit, again, I'd be a millionaire. I haven't even gotten it and I’m not even going to look into the credit. The supervisor also told me that if the parts came, he would let me know the next day. But the next day was when I got an email saying that they were just going to replace the dishwasher. This has been going on since October and it is now February 4th. The dishwasher is supposed to come tomorrow, so we'll see.

I have a daughter who just bought a house and it came with American Home Shield. I had one at a house 10 years ago so I thought to get it again. The goal is to be able to have coverage and not spend a fortune when repairs are needed. Greenway Home Services came out about a week ago to fix a furnace. I was unavailable the day they were gonna come so they ended up sending someone out on Saturday or Sunday. They said that it was a bad igniter and they replaced that. It worked for about two days so I've got a recall on them. They're coming out this afternoon between 3:00 and 8:00 to fix it again. The technician seemed to be fine. I wish that they had fixed it right the first time but I don't know the extent of how things work. By design, American Home Shield requires contractors to attempt to fix things multiple times before they say maybe it's a bigger problem that they need to replace something.

The wait time with American Home Shield is approximately one hour. I have a dishwasher that's being rebated because it's old and the needed parts cannot be ordered. Last Friday, I waited online for an hour and a half. This Wednesday afternoon, I did that again. AHS needs to do something about this. I put the phone on speaker and I do my thing. But, after an hour and a half, life needs to go on. I cannot pull myself together until a week later and the same thing happens again.
For my GE appliance, part of the wait time last year was for the parts to come in. But I had trouble getting the contractor to book a time with me. A different contractor came from the one who ordered the parts. He said that I don't have a GE extended warranty so he cannot perform service. There's some disconnect 'cause I have a warranty with AHS and I've never called contractors directly. All appointments go through AHS. Somebody dropped the ball and this needs to be looked into.

I submitted the claim for the microwave back in November and I just had it repaired two weeks ago. American Home Shield sent a technician out from General Electric the first time. He diagnosed the problems because supposedly, he ordered a part. He told me soon as a part came in, I was supposed to call back and reschedule so they could come back and install it.
That part came in two weeks later and I could never get anybody to come back out. I'd make calls almost daily. It wasn't until about two weeks ago that I was able to get somebody to reschedule and come out. They ended up sending out somebody from Lowe's, not from GE. When the technician from Lowe's came out, the first thing he asked me was how did the guy come up with the solution. He asked me if he took the microwave out. I told him no. Bottom line is the part that was wrong wasn't even the part that he ordered. But the Lowe's technician was able to fix it and it's been working properly ever since.
That was my first my interaction with AHS since I've been paying and I was completely disappointed. The other issue is customer service needs to be addressed some kind of way because I could never get beyond customer service of American Home Shield. I could never speak to anybody else. I could never escalate the problem. I got to a position where I've been on hold for 40 minutes and they said they'd call me back. They never called back. I don't know what was going on between them and GE, but I couldn't get that relationship to work either where somebody would come out. The overall experience was terrible.

I placed a service call via the online service that American Home Shield offers. I was given a contractor and they made an appointment four days later to come out to the home which they did. They stated that we needed to get a new generator. They said American Home Shield would pay for the generator but we would have to pay for the freon. They quoted $980 and we would have to pay them in cash. I kind of got really worried about that price because it didn't make sense to me. I called American Home Shield back and asked if I could do a second opinion. I also asked them if I did a buyout, how much would that be. I had several conversations but no one gave me an answer. They kept saying that this hasn't been approved yet but the company called me back and said it has been approved.
I asked if I could talk to a manager and was told no. Another friend had given me another company to call and have them come out and look. I did on my own and they said they are contracted with American Home Shield also and for me to call them to tell them that I wanted to do a second opinion. I did again and they finally approved. I told them I had a company name. The young man came and he did say we needed a generator and that American Home Shield will be responsible for that. He quoted the freon for only $400. He also explained to us why we would need freon. He said, “You don't want any particles getting into the new equipment that we put on the system.” He made us understand. He was patient with us, giving us clear understanding of how the system works. I enjoyed these guys because they came in and did the job.
I did not have a problem because they said they take credit cards. I don't even go to the bank anymore. Everything I do is electronic. It made no sense for that other company to tell me that they had to have it in cash. Atchley Air was amazing. We had a problem with the thermostat. When we were trying to heat the bottom floor, we couldn't get it warm. It was all going to the top, so my daughter's room would be 85 degrees, and it's 65 in the living room. The repair guy came out and helped with some air balance issues we had. We've had to use American Home Shield a couple times and it's been handy. I would recommend someone for sure. However, it’s either there's a language barrier or the reps are not homeowners and don't understand issues. I was trying to explain what the problem was, and the rep didn't understand at all. I said, “I just need a heating and air conditioning person.” All in all, American Home Shield's customer service isn't great, but it serves a purpose. It gets me where I need to be.

The claim was for a heating system. We have a couple of heating systems in our house and one of those stopped heating. We filed the claim online or called them and AHS got back with us quickly. Through American Home Shield, we found a provider that generally works on our systems. So, they're good about letting us use the provider that knows our house. How you have your person that always works on it, and they are one of the contractors they use.
We've been using the technicians for several years. They were amazing. This contractor also works really well with AHS, and they're one of their normal contractors. They had the process figured out as far as if we need a part or we need this. They know how to talk to the people and work with them. And the good thing is that I didn't have to be in the middle of all that. The contractor could just work with American Home Shield, and then just schedule with me when to come. They seem to have their customer service in India, but everybody sorted that now. And those people were reasonably helpful.

I had to wait until the next day, which fortunately, it wasn't really cold so nobody had to suffer through the cold. But it took 24 hours before somebody could get out there. But once they did, they figured out what it was and fixed it, and they were nice people. They got the part, got it fixed within a short period of time. I know American Home Shield only has so many contractors that they work with, so it's hard to find somebody that would get right out. At another house, we had the hot water heater, and an air conditioner fan went bad. A contractor came out. The air conditioner, the contractor had to order a part. There wasn't one here. So, they had to go a couple of days without air conditioning before they could be at it. Anytime that you're faced with a situation like that in either the winter or the summer, everybody wants you to be there right away. And this can't happen all the time.

The fridge was not working. I called American Home Shield, and a tech came and looked at it. The Freon was less, so that was filled. Then the icemaker was not working. So, somebody came and replaced that. Then again, it wasn't working even after that. I think it was because of the motherboard. That is being replaced now. The overall claim process was quick and easy. I wish I could have gotten it done immediately, but part needed to be ordered.

American Home Shield has been rotten to the core. I didn't have heat in one of my houses, so I put in a service call this past Friday for emergency service because there are elderly people in the house. I spoke with someone at American Home Shield who said, "Okay, we'll have someone come out on Saturday." Apparently, the people who American Home Shield contracted out didn't put in the comment that it was an emergency. They just put it in there it was "Expedited." I spent a couple of hours on Saturday with the contractor from AHS on one phone, and then on another phone, the company told them that they had to put in the comment that it was an emergency. If it wasn't put in there, they wouldn't come out.
I put that same work order in and then finally, someone got to the house to find out what the problem was, and they couldn't get any part for 7 to 14 days. I can't do that. If it were me, I can deal with it, but it's the elderly people in the house that got no heat. The lady told me, "Well, the best that I can do for you is go out and buy a space heater up to $100 and we'll reimburse you." what's a space heater gonna do heating the house? That ain’t gonna do any good. You tell the elderly people to use a space heater, end up burning the house down or causing other things to go wrong, then I'm gonna be liable for that.
I don't need that kind of attitude from American Home Shield. I got several contracts on four houses and at this point, I gotta do something else because I'm not getting the service that I need. If anybody asks me, I would not recommend them. The service sucks. Most of their reps weren't even helpful. They were just trying to get me off the phone. It shouldn't be an excuse that they can't find some company that can get this part before 14 days. They didn't even try and call anyone else to seek another company or whatever the case may be.

I've had so many issues with American Home Shield that it's not even funny. I had an order for my range. The tech told me that the plastic was melted on the panel, and that was why my stove was the way that it was and it wasn't working. But that was wrong. The rep tried to say that whoever installed the panels should have taken off the film. But then I called back and they came out and they fixed the wrong part. Then he came back finally with the new panel and installed it.
I also had an order for my dishwasher. It took about five months for them to find a good fit. The first guy that came out asked me what the dishwasher was doing and what the code was. I was like, I didn't know what the code was. It just wasn't working. So he told me that he wasn't going to stick around to see what the code was and for me to call him when I found out what the code was. I put a complaint about that and somebody else came out. They ordered the part, but it was the wrong part. So then that guy told me that it needed an engine and that I needed to call back and get another service request. Then I waited and waited three months. They finally came out and fixed it three weeks ago.
I've been with AHS for twenty years and it’s definitely changed. I'm noticing that they're sending a lot of Middle Eastern companies over here, which I don't think they understand about appliances. Right now, I put in a request for my washer because it had a really bad smell. He came out and told me that I needed to go out and buy those tablets. I went out and bought those tablets and I put them in my washer and it still has that same odor. I called in for them to come back out. I had an appointment with them on Tuesday, which was the 12th but they never showed up.
Every time I call AHS, it's an hour process. They don't put you through right away, you got to go through all the prompts. Then if you have a complaint, you got to wait and push the other buttons. They also put you on hold for up to an hour sometimes. Every time there's an issue, it's a back-and-forth communication thing. The tech will come and do the analysis, and then he'll say, “Okay. I gotta tell them what's wrong with it.” Then I get to wait for them to see what's wrong with it, and then I gotta wait for them to approve it and sometimes they have to order the part. When I had a problem with my tankless water heater, that took about four months because they kept giving me the runaround. When they finally approved it to get fixed, they had to order the tankless water heater, American Home Shield did and then that took forever.
I wouldn't recommend AHS to anybody, not with the service that they've given me lately. When I'm trying to find another company, I'm leery because I already know American Home Shield and I know that they're capable of doing a good job. So then I just say, “Okay. I'll just wait.” Then something else happens and then I'm disappointed. But, there's this thing about if I switch and something breaks down in between my switch, they tell me it's going to be six months until I’m fully covered. All that stuff is what makes me stay with American Home Shield.
Are you still in need of assistance?

When we bought our house, our Realtor worked in a deal where we were able to have American Home Shield that first year. We enjoyed it so much that time that we continued the warranty for 11 years. We are in the process of buying another house and we asked our Realtor again to work into the deal where we could have American Home Shield and continue it on our new house.
It's been really nice that anytime we have an issue that arises, American Home Shield communicates clearly who would be coming out. The people that we set appointments with seem to be coming promptly. Most of the time, they fix the issue within the first visit. If they aren't able to, they very kindly come back to do a follow-up visit and fix whatever the problem is. It's just comforting to know that American Home Shield has your back.
We used the warranty when our sink wouldn't drain. I tried turning on the garbage disposal and it shot from the other side of the sink up to the ceiling. A service guy came out. It took a couple of days longer than normal to get someone here but it wasn't that big of a deal for us. The guy fixed the problem and within 24 to 48 hours, we noticed there was a leak underneath the sink. Water was coming out of the pipe. The guy had taken apart the pipe to get it working. The same guy came out the following day and fixed that up. He's said, "Just let us know if I still didn't get it." Everyone was always nice. I'm just grateful for the help.

We had to wait till Tuesday for them to get out here to fix it the way it should have been fixed the first time. The contractor was good. When the tech came out on Saturday, he didn’t know how long the fix was gonna last because he didn’t have the part he needed. So he tried a workaround. He ordered the part, and it arrived on Tuesday. We were using the heat and noticed that the airflow coming through the vents was non-existent in a couple of our bedrooms. A guy came out and he was really nice. He diagnosed it. The other two vents weren't getting anything so he kind of closed off the one in the closet and you could feel the difference right away. He checked the master bedroom and it was a similar situation. It’s the way that the vents were installed in the house.
He recommended some things for us to consider in the future like having something similar to zones so it’s not trying to force air into all of our home especially the first floor. He also gave us some general insight on our cooling system, kind of how it was looking from the outside and maybe getting warranty. He was insightful and helpful. It wasn't like he was trying to sell something. This was our first claim. The other one was for something pool-related but it wasn't eligible. But so far, we're satisfied with American Home Shield. There was a leak in the back bowl of the toilet. We had someone come out last year for it but because my daughter is in Afghanistan, I don't go to the house every month. I also could not get the other company to come back out because it looked like they didn't do anything. When we got back to the house, because there was such a tiny leak, it had gone through the baseboards and we had mildew in the back. I called American Home Shield first, then I made the claim online and paid a $75 co-pay. American Home Shield then reached out to me with the company name to reach out to to schedule an appointment.
The process was easy though we had an issue in trying to schedule the appointment because of my schedule. I don't live up there and I have to drive four hours up there. But the contractor, Matt Plumbing, was really understanding and they accommodated me. They didn't do warranties on the weekend but the young lady I talked to spoke to a supervisor and they agreed to come out on the weekend. And they did it early so we could enjoy ourselves. When the tech came out, he was awesome. He explained everything to us and he told me he changed several parts in the toilet to stop the leak because some of the parts were worn out anyway. All in all, I would tell my friends that I'd recommend AHS. I also plan to use their service in an investment property up in Davenport. The contractor contacted us when they were going to be here. The guy thought that he might be able to solve the problem by putting something else into the aged water heater. He pulled out one that he replaced that looked like bare bones. It was something that was broken down. It didn't help the issue but he did try. They explained that they were not sure that it was going to solve the problem and they're coming back today.
I'd like to have one contact that I can reach out to for continuity purposes. Other than that, any problems that I would have had would have been with the contractors themselves, not certainly with the service that American Home Shield has provided. What I liked from my recent claim to American Home Shield was the coordination part of it. Since I have a cell phone, they sent me a text message and told me what date someone was coming. I like that. They kept me informed. The tech from Realty Rekey said, “We're 10 minutes away.” They gave me a good time window. They showed up with the time that they said. When you have to take time off from work and they say, “We'll be there from 8:00 to 4:00,” you're stuck waiting all day for them. The tech showed up on time. He was so professional, super quick, explained everything and what he was doing. It was a perfect service.
I did that claim over the phone. I'm a little bit older, so it's easier to talk to someone than it is trying to get through the technology. The only thing with American Home Shield is I had a couple of issues, and I had to call each time separately. Other than that, I like American Home Shield. You could tell they vetted the people. So, they're the ones I called up. They sent Ricky and it was an excellent company that they referred. Whatever they're doing to make sure they vet the companies and the people they're selecting, they should make sure to keep up those standards.

My recent claim with AHS was for a furnace issue that I had. It had to be turned off because there was a pipe issue where it was installed incorrectly. They had somebody out within the next couple of days. After that, it took about a week turnaround point. The company had to submit a claim and then once they submitted a claim to American Home Shield, they had to review it, then they sent it back to the HVAC company.
I ended up having to pay the HVAC company directly because it wasn't covered. All in all, we were without heat for three and a half weeks. But part of that was because the piece that needed to be ordered was from the manufacturer. It wasn't all American Home Shield. But I don't like the turnaround time between them receiving a claim from the HVAC company to them reviewing it and sending it back. Whatever I needed to be fixed was not fixed during that point, versus just going directly to the HVAC company.

I've had a couple of issues come up where a contractor would go out to a particular location and resolve an issue temporarily. It's fine, but sometimes, the same issue would crop up multiple times. This happened in one of the houses that I have covered with AHS and thankfully, the tenant let me know within a 30-day window. So, I didn't have to pay another $75 to have somebody go out there and fix the problem. The other thing is with HVAC. This has happened more than once where I've got a contractor go out, he says that the problem is resolved, or the tenant says that the problem is resolved, then the same problem repeats itself.
I'm out of town and it's hard for me to physically monitor any changes or any maintenance issues that come up that are resolved each step of the way. So I'm putting a lot of that trust in HSA and the contractors it chooses. With that being said, sometimes it does happen that the contractors, for whatever reason, aren't fixing the problem or they're temporarily fixing the problem and it's just reoccurring. So I've started to just tell HSA to please inform the contractor to really do a robust analysis of what the problem is and fix it.
I own eight units right now and I have five policies with American Home Shield. I'm looking for the identification of the right contractor and ensuring that the technicians performs their duties to the best of their abilities. Those are the two reasons why I purchase a warranty with HSA. With them, 20% of the time, the issue has not been resolved and that isn't a big deal. I also plan to stick with HSA. But I plan to scale and when those 8 units become 20 units, then the 20% number of cases that could be better becomes a real factor. So, they should make sure that competent contractors are identified and that they resolve the issue the first time they go out there. And I'm willing to pay more to ensure that the problem is resolved the first time. Other than that, claim submission is not a problem with AHS and I've been happy with that. I could submit a claim online, though I typically tend to call. Everything else is great with them, too.

Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

My husband said the guy was friendly. We had we had stoppage of a drain in a downstairs bathroom. It wasn't draining right and he got to work right away. He cleared the drain, so we were good. When I submit a claim though, sometimes the people take up to three days to get back to you and whether or not it's a bearable amount of time for someone to get back to you depends on the issue that you're having. It wasn't a big deal for the basement drain, but there was a time this past summer where our air conditioning broke, and it was 170 degrees weather. When that happens, we can't wait three days for people to come out and fix it.
Thanks for letting us know everything worked out great for you. Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

It took three months to diagnose the issue on my broken oven. We were assigned two different repair companies even though the first one said the broken part couldn't be replaced. They then sent a Viking authorized repair person who literally asked us how to turn on the stove. He eventually came to the same conclusion as the first person. We were then offered a buyout for 1/4 of the value of the range. We engaged in no less than 20 phone calls with American Home Shield to prove that the replacement stove they were offering did not have the same features as the existing stove (and had very poor reviews) and that the alternative option of a buy out was not anywhere close to the value of a comparable stove. We were able to renegotiate the buy-out for double the original offer but again, only after many hours and phone calls and still only resulting in half the value of the oven.
We literally had to send them the user's manual to prove that they were shortchanging us on features. It's been close to two weeks since the buy out was approved and they still haven't sent a check. When I called to follow up about that, they said that there was an error with the first check and that they are resending it and to wait up to another two weeks. I went Thanksgiving and Christmas without an oven. It felt like they were actively hindering us every step of this process. I know there aren't many good alternatives with home warranties but at this point, I would have rather paid out of pocket than go through the stress and aggravation of this ordeal. Our experiences with other home repairs with this company have typically resulted in us paying the $75 service fee with no or partial resolution. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this company at all costs.

An appliance repair specialist came out because I had a microwave convection oven that needed to be installed. I talked to company twice beforehand about coming out to make the appointment because the thing's really heavy. They knew that two people needed to come out. They were wanting my son to help and I told them he'd be here but he was not going to help. They made the appointment and when he came to the door, it was this guy who was like 70 years old. He said where he was from and he was reaching in his pocket like he was gonna pull out a mask. He stepped in the house and walked right down the hallway. He had brought an assistant with him. When his assistant was walking behind him, I said, "He needs to put a mask on." The assistant looked at me like, "Okay, I'll tell him."
I got up and went into the kitchen where they were at. The guy was standing there and he was huffing and puffing. I said, "You need to put a mask on." He said, "I have a doctor's note." I said, "I don't care what you have. You need to put a mask on." He continued to talk telling me that he's got COPD and he can't wear a mask when he's doing his work. When he did wear a mask, he never wore it over his nose. It was only just over his mouth. I said, "I don't think you understand. My son had leukemia. He had a bone marrow transplant and a full-on radiation chemotherapy. He's immunosuppressed. He's in the other room. You can't be in here without a mask."
He continued to talk about the cold weather bothering his lungs and how he couldn't install the microwave if he was wearing a mask. I said, "I don't think you're getting it. You're not installing the microwave. You have to leave now." He stood there for probably another 15 seconds. He had his hands on the oven and he was trying to catch his breath. He finally walked out.
I was furious. I don't let anybody in my house. We're really careful with covid and everything that we've gone through. I called the company and the receptionist said, "That was Joe. Yes, he doesn't wear a mask," and started to tell me everything. I said, "You know, I don't care. I talked to you guys three times on the phone. Somebody should have informed me that somebody not wearing a mask would be doing the work and I would have said no."
Number one, it's illegal because we're in the state of Washington and it's under governor's orders. And number two, you don't enter somebody's house under a pandemic like that. She said she'd let him know. I asked was there a supervisor I could talk to. She said Joe is the supervisor. I asked if there was an owner I could talk to. She said, "No, but I'll pass it along." I contacted the attorney general who then passed it along. American Home Shield should not be sending them out to anybody's house. When I went online, I had seen that somebody else had said the same thing happened to them.
Another company came out and fixed it but I've been really unhappy with the American Home Shield. I had started the microwave back in October and it took that long to get it all worked out. In early December, I had called up because glass shattered on my oven. When somebody came out and looked at it, they had said they couldn't get some of the parts that I wanted. It took quite a while for it to finally be passed along to where they said they were going to replace the oven. This was kind of hard because I wanted one of my ovens for Christmas and New Year's, which I didn't have.
When I was working, calling up and trying to find out what was going on, whoever I was talking to did not speak very good English at all. At some point, someone closed the oven. I waited another week and didn't hear anything. When I called back, they told me, "You don't have an open work order on your oven." It took me four hours on the phone to get that straightened out. I was being put on hold and transferred trying to figure out what was going on. When they finally figured out what it was, they said they'd open up a new work order.
It took another four or five days for the report to finally go in then it took another week for them to review the report because they were so backlogged on it. When they finally reviewed the report, they said they could offer me a price to settle getting a new oven because they don't have the oven that I have. It would cost me about $300 more to get the same oven. I said, "No, forget it. I'll just wait. I've waited this long. I'll wait a little bit longer." Every week, someone would call me up to tell me the status of what was going on. They have one in black but all my appliances are white.
Last week and the weekend before, I didn't get a phone call. I called up and remarkably, I got somebody really fast. They transferred me over to the purchasing department. When I got to the purchasing department, the gal looked it up and said, "There isn't any of those ovens that you can get. I don't know why you weren't put down for one, but let's put you down for one." There's one coming on March 11th and that's going to be my oven. I also kept getting text messages saying that we owed $100 for our deductible. I had called twice to tell them we don't owe a deductible. What happened was when they generated a new work order, it said we needed another $100. I called them up and they put something in, fixing that, but that kept generating. I kept getting late payment notices, emails, text messages telling me that we were behind. It finally got straightened out but it's been very frustrating working with American Home Shield.

Our dryer stopped working weeks ago, we immediately called American Home Shield on January 10, 2021. They sent a company (Whirlpool) out on January 13, 2021. The technician said he cleared out the error codes and it seems to be working. I told him yes it works when there are no clothes in it but when I put clothes in it takes 4 complete cycles to dry. He said he didn’t have 30 minutes to wait to see if the clothes dry but that it should be fine. Well as he left I put a load in and it never dried so I immediately called back American Home Shield about an hour after the technician left and told them. They rescheduled the company to come back on January 18.
We waited and they never showed so the next day, January 19, I called American Home Shield again and they said they were going to get ahold of the company and reschedule it as they tried calling them and didn’t get answer. They tried rescheduling them finally after I called American Home Shield every single day last week to get an update as no one was calling me back like they promised someone would and finally on January 20, they rescheduled the company to come out today, January 25. Again the company didn’t show up.
I called again just now and told American Home Shield I just want the $100 back and I will find someone to come do the work as they obviously can’t get this company to fulfill their obligations and refuse to try and find another company to help us. They wouldn’t even refund the $100 and would only refund $50!!! How crazy is this?! The dryer has been out since January 10 and the company they sent showed up once and didn’t even want to address the problem and now has been a no show twice more while we sit here lugging clothes to a neighbors and a laundromat to dry them!!! WHAT KIND OF RIP OFF ARE THEY RUNNING?! This is insane!!

American Home Shield is generally responsive. It's quick claims. They get the email back. The first time, I've made two claims on plumbing, and it's been the same contractor both times. Those went well. Recently, Hawley Plumbing was sent out. They called ahead of time and then did the disposal replacement. The only thing that's not entirely clear is when submitting the thing online, they send an email saying the contractor will call. But then, it also says I can call them. They should have more clarity on that, like if we don't hear back within X number of hours, then call them, or something otherwise. Other than that, I'm considering adding a policy for my mom.

When I turned off my dryer, it was rattling. I have a sensor on the dryer where it will count down from 45 until it's done. But if the clothes are not dry, it will take a little bit longer. It was getting down to like four minutes left in the cycle then it would jump back up to 45 minutes left. It would keep on going like that. I made an appointment to American Home Shield and the technician came out very soon after I made the appointment. It was not a long wait at all for them to schedule the appointment with me. He told me about what was going on. He cleaned it out and found lint all trapped in the dryer. He said it usually isn't trapped in these places but it can happen over years. He explained everything that was going on to me, talked to me about it then said if I have problems, I might want to change the tubing in the back. It probably took him 35, 40 minutes.
It was easy for me to submit claims. The process is straightforward. You go in there and pick the area that you have a concern with. That same day while the dryer guy was there, I had put in a call for an electrician because I was having fuse shortages. He came out the same day at the same time. He handled it and talked to me. The plumber took a while to get back in touch with me but it was me not reaching out to the company to reschedule that. American Home Shield provided the information to contact the company if the company doesn't contact me within a business day or two. They do well and I like them. I have them from my house, my mother-in-law's house and a house my grandparents have down in Virginia.
When I was at my mother-in-law's house, we had a dishwasher that broke and we tried to fix it. American Home Shield's contractor came out three times to fix it. They couldn't fix it any of those times so they provided me an opportunity to get a new dishwasher. I didn't measure it right so I got one that was smaller than what I could have gotten. The other part was not only was the washer smaller but also it was not the same quality when I got it. I chose the free washer instead of paying a few $100 for an upgrade which I probably should have done but it would have been nice to have some more support when choosing that aspect.
Our goal is to pair you with the best contractor that will provide a quick and final resolution. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your service request. American Home Shield is a good company. Give them a shot. I contact them over the phone, they pull up my contract, and they ask me some questions about the appliance. They either schedule somebody right then, or the vendor will call me within 24 hours and set up the visit. The process is easy. Also, the first guy that came from Sears to work on a washing machine was great. He came on time, took care of my washing machine, and was out of here in 45 minutes. On the other hand, the second time has been a nightmare. I waited, and waited, and finally got called to schedule.
They were supposed to be at my house between noon and 4:00 for my refrigerator. 30 minutes before that ended, I got a text from a guy, saying he had gotten sick and couldn't be there and somebody would get back with me. Another week went by and finally, they got back with me and said that they would schedule it. I said, “Okay, great.” Last night, out of the blue, I got a call that said, “Hey, he's going to be there tomorrow, between 8:00 and noon.” I also got a message saying he would be here by 1:24, but it's almost 1:40, and he's still not here. He was very friendly and very professional. On this trip, American Home Shield was good. There was one particular time last year where I wasn't pleased with them. I had a letter I was gonna send them and my receipt. Every time I would call them and ask them if I could get a supervisor, I never talked to a supervisor. They would always say that they were working on doing whatever, but it took months for them to get out here and get the air fixed. When they finally did, they got People's Mechanical come out. AHS just didn't do what they were supposed to do and just kept putting us off and the people that they sent didn't do anything. But the tech from People’s Mechanical contacted us and came out, and he was very polite.
Everything ended up going well after People’s Mechanical came out and worked on it. Then this time when I called AHS on a Sunday, they wanted to send somebody. I said, “No, don't send them dude back to my house. Can you call People's Mechanical? My heating unit's blower blows but it won't heat. This has been an ongoing problem and I get American Home Shield to handle it. Twice I have paid out of pocket because my wife and daughter were in the house and it was freezing cold in the middle of winter and AHS was telling me it was going to be a week before anyone could come. Recently, I put in a work order and got Myers Comfort Specialist to come out. Last week they replaced something and the heating unit has been working since. But that's no guarantee that it's gonna be working next week. But, the people from Myers that worked on my unit have been good people and I've been satisfied with the work they have done.
My big thing is getting somebody out in a timely manner. This past Labor Day Weekend, we left on Thursday and my daughter's school had already started. She called me at about eleven o'clock saying that the air conditioner wasn't working. I called American Home Shield and they said that it was gonna be a week before they could get anybody out. I said, "What about my daughter that's in a 100-degree temperature house?” The rep said, "Well, I'm sorry." I called and got a repairman out in two hours. That cost me $375.
There was another time when I had an issue paying their $100 deductible and I wanted to talk to somebody higher up in the food chain. AHS said that they would have somebody call me back but they never did. So, I went ahead and paid the $100. I've had three homes with American Home Shield and I've been using them for 16 years. They say they're going to put all new stuff in. I don't know how they went from being that good a company to what they are now. My deductible used to be $50 and now it's $100 which is double since 2011. I've already started looking to find another company.

When I called in to say I needed another opinion, American Home Shield gave me one and the gentlemen that was sent out from a different plumbing company got it fixed within five minutes. It was a success story. However, I had an outdoor water turned off. I called twice and it seemed as if it was covered.
I paid $100 for somebody to come out and check it, but then I found out it wasn't covered. That's the way it was though. The only thing is that they should make sure that coverage is provided for the problem that seems to be at hand. Other than that, I have been thrilled with the service and have recommended it to many others. Things have been really great and if I've had any problem at all, I've called back and it's been resolved.

It was a good experience with them. As far as the claims submission with American Home Shield, sometimes, when it asks you to diagnose the problem, we have to check off a box so we get the right person, and people that are very non-technical might not know what to check. I ended up clicking furnace, but I wasn't sure because there were a few options. Other than that, the home warranty is great to have. They looked at the refrigerator and determined that it was broken. But they were not authorized to repair a refrigerator. So another company that was an authorized LG repair had to be called in. We are scheduled tomorrow to get a repair part for that and hopefully, it will be repaired. As far as dealing with the people, they’ve been fine. I had the rekey and the heating unit inspected. But the heating unit did fail there and Advanced fixed it.

We got American Home Shield the first of the year. We did that because we're looking to put our house on the market and we wanted it as a protection for us in between and as a feature for a homebuyer. When we submitted a claim, it was efficient and simple. The dishwasher was not cycling properly and it wasn't cleaning the dishes. Initially, it seemed fine. They replaced the motor, which seemed to fix the big issue, but the little door where the soap goes doesn't always open. I'm trying to figure out if we have to have them come back out yet or not for the other part of it that we've seen in the few times we've used the dishwasher since they were there.

My GE washer was making a really loud noise. The belts were bad and so were the suspension rods and agitator. The contractor was great and they worked on the washer twice. The technicians were professional when they came to my house. They called me ahead of time too. I had to leave work to come and let them in a couple of times because nobody was home and I had put my dog up. There were two different specialists who come out. One came out the first time and he ordered parts. He came back and fixed the problem. But the washer was still stomping so his boss came back out. He looked at it and diagnosed it again. He also got some more parts and when he came back to try and do the fix, the washer just wasn't fixable. I'm getting ready to call American Home Shield because I'm supposed to either pick a new washer out from what they have to offer or I can go and buy one myself then send them the receipt.
Both times that I used American Home Shield, they've taken care of the situation and they were nice. There was one thing that I could have had them do on the humidifier on my furnace. But I ended up doing that myself and I took that out of my pocket. But I didn't realize I could have used my policy. Other than that, we're happy with American Home Shield.

When you would turn the thermostat on the heater, it wouldn't turn on and the pilot was running. We had a technician from Starlight HVAC come out but he couldn't find anything wrong with the wall unit. But he vacuumed it all up and as soon as he turned the thermostat, it turned on like a charm. So he said that there would be a 60-day warranty on it and to call them if it happened again and they'd come back out at no cost. But thankfully, the heater is still working.
I like that American Home Shield will have someone come out and repair an issue within 24 hours as they say. Everyone they've ever sent has been great and super professional. I like all the technicians from my washer and dryer, my dishwasher, and now the wall unit and I have a little apartment in the back. So, I've been very happy.

I had an issue and I've gone with American Home Shield's customer service, and they fixed it. The only issue is we'll put in the ticket, and it takes like a week for someone to come out. This is when they contract with Sears to do the appliance fixing. Then Sears would come out like a week later, and then Sears will say, "Well, now, I have to order a part." Now, you're looking at like three weeks until your appliance is fixed. This last time, I waited a week, Sears canceled on me because they got sick. I talked to the person that was scheduling, "Oh, I'm sorry, it's going to be another week for someone to come out."
I called Home Shield place and said, "No, this is not okay. This is crazy." They got somebody to come out that day, and they fixed it right away. So, it really depends on who they contract with is going to be the better service. Sears is horrible. Quality Appliance was great. The tech came that same day that they called in. He fixed everything. He had the part in his car, so we didn't have to wait another week or two for the part. It was taken care of within like 30 minutes.
If you take into account how much I pay a month and the deductible, I could have just bought a new appliance. So, you really have to have a lot of issues throughout the year to get your money's worth with American Home Shield. If they can lower the deductible, it wouldn't be such a bad experience. I don't want to have like 10 appliances breakdown. So, between the monthly costs and then the deductible, I could have bought a new dryer. I'm gonna really look at if I want to renew my contract this year.
Thanks for sharing your experience. We appreciate it.

So that bothered me a little bit because it was a lot of mud. They also broke a mirror and they didn't even tell me. But they were nice and they were able to fix the sink. After a while, I won't be able to afford it. One thing is that if my air condition takes some sort of oil, they make me pay for it. I'm hoping that it ain't since I got the three-tier. It covers a lot of things. Recently, the garbage disposal went out. The guy came and checked it. After he tried with some little tool he had, he said the motor's gone. Let’s just go ahead and get it again.” Money-wise, I know we end up saving when something comes up and it's too expensive at that time to fix, or having to buy something. It helps out that at least, by paying monthly, I know that my sink will be fixed and if they can't fix them, they will repurchase them or whatever. At first, the contractor replaced the whole icemaker thing, but it's not making any ice. But he is nice and professional.

American Home Shield could do a much better job on their customer service end as far as getting people through to someone on the phone quicker or having other ways like an online chat to get through to someone quicker. There were some big chunks of my day that were eaten up on the phone with them. It would take me 10, 20 minutes to get through to someone initially then I would get put on hold when they're calling to talk to this person and to this person. Either they need more support as far as being understaffed or maybe they need more efficient ways to get ahold of one another interdepartmentally. That has been frustrating. There were certain times I called and was on the phone with them for an hour or two. I had a situation where we had a company that was being nonresponsive and that was a pain.
That aside, submitting a claim to American Home Shield is very easy. I did one for my water heater and the tech who came was fine. In the end, we decided not to do the repair and went ahead with the cash-out offer instead. We haven't received the money yet. It would be nice to see if I'm going to actually get this reimbursement check.

I had a fridge that broke down in November 14th of 2020. American Home Shield sent one of the technicians. The technician said that there are a bunch of parts that need to be changed, and he submitted them the order. I didn't hear anything from them so I called them. I told them, “What is the holdup?” “Oh, sorry. We didn't know that the technician was gonna order the part. The technician told us that he has ordered the part.”
I called the technician again back in December 1st. And the technician said, “No, they told me they're gonna order the part themselves.” So imagine your fridge that is completely dead and they keep just dragging their feet. Then on December 14th, after a month, they said, “Well, we haven't still ordered the part for you. Would you like us to order the part? But it's in backorder for one month.” I told them, “I cannot be without a fridge for two months. And I need this to be fixed. And you guys have a buyout program that if you cannot fix the unit...” which clearly says that they offer you money. They call it buyout. And their maximum buyout on the fridge is $3,000. My fridge is about $7,500. But I don't care. I told him, “Just pay me the buyout and let me go buy a new unit.” Their response was, “We can fix it for $1,500.”
They were claiming that they can get these wholesale price. There is no way. It’s $3,500 to fix it if I wanted to fix it retail. Let's say if they want to do it wholesale, it will be 2,500. But knowing that I need my fridge, they did this to me. They said, “Okay, we're going to give you a cash out for $1,500.” And I had no other choice, just to get the cash out and close the deal.
All they did was play games from the beginning. I’ve called them more than 10, 15 times. Every time, they put you on hold for one hour, hour and a half until somebody picks up. And when they pick up, they start giving you song and dance about ordering parts, not ordering parts. I reported them to the Better Business Bureau also. And most probably, I'm going to take them to small claims court because they didn't treat me right. It was horrible and they know it very well. They are horrible people. I have no other choice. There are no other companies that write these kinds of insurance for a house over 6,000 square foot.

It has been 3 months since I opened service request, no appliances have been fixed, more than 50 phone calls I have done so far, 19 different LIES from them so far (on Record), NO RESOLUTION at all. Imagine not being able to use your Cooktop & refrigerator for 3 months and company not doing anything at all, because it cannot be fixed and per policy they are supposed to pay for replacing appliance, which they obviously don't want to do.
But most important and frustrating point is they lie straight to your face every time you call (not to Mention, every phone call is More than 1hour long, so much waste of time). Finally, they ran out of lies in their runbook and just don't want to do anything. No management or supervisor ever gets involved. All they want is high monthly premiums. You are left helpless and just can't do anything other than cancel your account and all the years of premiums went down the drain. Save your money and most importantly the FRUSTRATION. PS.: If you want to learn how to lie as a customer service rep, best place to work at.

TLDR: AHS does not have an escalation process in their service centers. If the "process" doesn't work, their only solution is to start over. Be prepared to wait with no guarantee that they'll actually even fix your problem.
My boiler started making an alarming rattling noise around the same time that I noticed it was taking my house longer to heat up. I did some independent research and found it was a defective Flow Control Valve and had another HVAC company come out to confirm, which they did and also informed me that this piece was not necessary for my unit. They could drain the system, remove it and replace with a length of copper pipe to fix the issue, then refill the system. This is an hour or two of work.
I submitted an AHS claim, they selected a vendor, it took 4 days for someone to come out, they found the same diagnosis.... Then another 4 days went by with no update. I called AHS to see what happened and they said the vendor didn't send them a "detailed diagnosis", so I had to call the vendor myself. The vendor said they sent their diagnosis already. The next day it magically appeared, and I got to wait another week until the vendor could have someone out to fix it. When the person showed up, he said he was only approved to flush the system, not fix the defective part. I told him to go home since I knew that wouldn’t fix the issue and I wanted to make sure I wouldn't be charged for the incorrect work being done. AHS MARKED MY ISSUE AS FIXED.
I then had to facilitate a back and forth over multiple days between the vendor and AHS arguing about who needed to submit what. I called into their support center multiple times, and at one point I was adamant that I wanted to be escalated to a supervisor and I was effectively told that AHS doesn't have service supervisors available for calls. So the person you call (offshore) is the only person you can speak to, and if the process doesn't work their solution is to start from the beginning again.
It's now January 25th, I submitted my original ticket on the 8th, and I'm worried that my boiler will completely blow, and I'll be without heat. If you're thinking about buying a contract, just know that unless your appliance is broken to the point of becoming a smoldering pile of rubble, you're gonna have to spend a lot of time and effort for any chance of getting your issue resolved. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

Pacific Home Plumbing did a great job. The water heater replacement was a success. I would recommend them highly. But American Home Shield seemed to bungle the hot water heater order. We had to reschedule twice because the hot water heater wasn't ordered for Pacific Home Plumbing to pick up. So it was twice delayed. The warranty is not as it seems, because even though something would be replaced and the item may be covered, you could still get a large service charge from who's doing the install.

I invest in rental properties, and all my properties are also serviced by American Home Shield. With some properties, they are very responsive. Whenever I talk to AHS, their customer service is good. They try to help and figure things out, but some communication is lost, and things are not working seamlessly. I had some plumbing leaks in my bathroom, both the tub and the sink. I put in a work order over to American Home Shield and they made sure that they fixed an appointment the next day. The repair people swung by within a couple of days and they let us know that they have to reach out to American Home Shield to get approval on parts and other things. It almost took three weeks before they could come back to me.
Meanwhile, I called American Home Shield three times for that one. To me, it looks like a simple problem. You can get the parts in Lowe’s, which is five miles down the road from my home. It was not expensive or very special parts that you need to order and wait a couple of weeks to get. With a couple of communications via AHS, they came by last Friday. They tried to repair it, and they said that it was not working. They said they had to come back again and do it, but AHS would not cover the costs for it. I had to pay everything out of my pocket.
For the tub, they quoted around $465 and for the sink, it came close to $1,000. I had all the things within AHS, but I also wanted an upgraded one, so I said I will pay the difference. Beyond that, the cost is around $300 more, which they said that they won't cover and I didn't know what aspect of it. This morning, I got the call for scheduling the work from the Grade A Plumbing, so I asked what part AHS will cover and what part I had to pay. They said AHS was not covering anything, so I had to pay all the bill. That’s $465. I said, “Why is AHS not paying it? Can I know the reason, and what is different?”
The representative at Grade A Plumbing said, “I'm not going to explain you all these things. If you want, you can contact AHS and call us back whenever you want to schedule it,” and hung up the phone. I have not yet spoken to AHS though. The previous times I communicated with AHS, I specifically wanted to make sure what were covered or not covered. I asked for a report. Whatever the diagnostic report that the repair people are supposed to send, like Grade A Plumbing to AHS, did they receive. The three times that I talked to AHS, they said they have not received that report, but the vendor also said that the parts have been ordered. I do not know how a vendor can go ahead and order the parts and other things without the report.
I wanted to specifically know if AHS was covering or not, and what it is, but I did not get an answer. There is a communication gap with Grade A Plumbing and AHS on that aspect. I told them I don’t want Grade A Plumbing to come to my home, and then say, “Well, I’m going to do only this part of the work. This is not covered, and that is not covered.” At least I should know beforehand, then I'll decide what to do. The initial communication from Grade A Plumbing was good. They were instantly responsive, but towards the end, I didn't like their tone.

I had a unit installed in December 2019 and this winter, it wasn't staying hot. It was blowing cool air. I had to call American Home Shield a couple of times just to get someone out here. We had issues with the claim initially, like, this guy said he couldn't do it. This person did it last year. There's a new system. So, the language and cultural barrier was an issue at first. Then I’m in Missouri. It was cold and I was trying to let them know my heat’s not working and they had something in the background. I said that this was just put in a year ago and it should not be acting up. I needed someone to come out and look at it.
They referenced the people who put it in and they no longer have contracts with the people who actually installed it. So then the other guy came in and did their work. He complained about American Home Shield saying they're doing things, they’re outsourcing, and they get the stuff mixed up. I told him to look at his records before talking to me. I was cold and that heightened my frustration because I didn’t have heat and I have children. I had my oven open and I also had space heaters in my house trying to get heat.
When Master Climate came out, they handled it. James was here twice. The first time he came, he did a test and said, “This is what it is.” He was very knowledgeable and changed out whatever the broken piece was that he found out that was not working properly. Then when he called me for the second time, I said that it was still not working. He told me to flip the switch. I told him that it was hot. He then said that he would just switch my whole board out. I would need a new one, and I haven't had any trouble since. He knew exactly where to go or what it was, professional, and also pleasant, especially in this day and time with somebody in my home. I appreciated that. It's resolved and I’m comfortable.

Just recently, I had an oven repaired through American Home Shield. The contractor did a very good job on that. I was pending and they fixed the dishwasher right before Christmas, and they did a very good job. They identified the parts that we needed for the refrigerator. There's been some confusion. When I went back to find out the status of that, the online information just said parts had been ordered. When I followed up and spoke to some associates of American Home Shield, they told me, “No, it was identified that they were going to replace the refrigerator.”
Now, the refrigerator is about $12,000. The maximum they pay is about $3,000. When the technician was here fixing the oven, I asked him if he knew more about that and he said no. He understood that the parts had been ordered. While he was here, he and I went in to research the two parts, about the availability through the internet, and found that they were available.
I spoke to the manager or administrative support staff dispatcher. He said that he had contacted AHS and said there was no reason that needed to settle for replacement, those parts are available and we should order. He said, “Forget about it. That's what's going to happen.” At this stage, I'm thinking parts are being ordered. I assumed that the parts were not available, and my house has been here about 12 years so it's getting toward the age, I understand, where the parts wouldn’t be available. But it doesn't appear that there's a parts availability issue.
I've had some struggles with American Home Shield before, and it was the administration. I get works on the technician. They've done quite a bit of work here. The microwave went bad, and the technician said it ought to be replaced. I learned the fine print that says American Home Shield only replaces function not brand. The only reason I got into American Home Shield is because how expensive Viking Professional kitchen equipment is. But I've learned now. I said, “Okay. So as long as we can keep it functioning.” The life of these professional equipment should be 25 years.
There's been a delay in resolving a few of these issues. My air conditioner went out and I wanted to upgrade it. It was a long drawn-out process without air conditioning in the hottest summer we’ve had here in Hawaii in a long time. I wanted to upgrade because I didn't think the one I had was sufficient to cover the building. We finally got it done. I took a very low payout and just replaced the whole thing up and down. But again, American Home Shield, right here with other people, have done a good job. It kind of depends on the technicians and the companies that are sent out.
I've come to the point that I try to call and say, “These people, they haven't been here very long, but they do a very good job.” With air conditioning, I've worked with them, and they do a very good job. The way it's scattered out, and especially because the distance here in Hawaii, you don't have a whole lot of companies in support of American Home Shield. But I've had three different calls, unfortunately, over the last six months, and I've been very pleased with them. I hope I'll be able to continue to do that. I would recommend American Home Shield.
Some of the other companies I've dealt with, technician says one thing, Edmond says one thing and American Home Shield says another. The communication methodology that American Home Shield uses where they can't take my word, they can't take the document I have in my hand. They have to go back through this antiquated system. But the admin people here with the technicians have to forward it through this email system or in-house proprietary system to get it to the right people who pass it to the other people who finally I end up calling somebody.

I had an ice maker go bad in my almost brand new refrigerator and AHS replaced it. Recently, ABNation came out for my pool pump the following day after I filed my request. The individual replaced the pump and the pool is working. He told me that it's a similar pump but it doesn't match the system that I have. I understand I had no say-so in the type or quality. There are a lot of home warranty companies out there. After I started calling a few places, I was totally bombarded. My emails, every day, I was getting the same ones, but I'm glad I went with American Home Shield. One time, my heater was turning on, but the heat wasn't coming through to the house. The first time, the repair people came, they cleaned out whatever's in there. They took out the filters, and then it started going. It went okay, but then the next morning, it didn't go on again. I was worried that they wouldn't come back right away, but it only took two days. The same person came, and he gave me a new thermostat and got it going again. We tried it again before he left because I didn't want the issue to happen again. We turned the unit off, then he turned it back on. He was very nice and my heater has been fine ever since. From what I've experienced with Home Shield, everything seems okay. I'll wait till the next problem I have.

But we've had a bunch of major catastrophes while we've been in and AHS has taken care of everything. It has been simple. So, it's been a great experience. We had a service call for plumbing as there was a leak all over the floor. I put my order in and the techs couldn't come out right away. I had a neighbor that saw what was going on and we had to do something because it was flooding. I had a friend help me fix the problem. When you call American Home Shield and get service, you have to pre-pay $75 for the co-pay. You have to pay it upfront on the phone at that moment. Since the problem was a dishwasher and other plumbing issues, I had to pay twice which was $150 to put in my service request. A day or two later and before anybody came out, I called to cancel the service order because we had got the problem resolved. American Home Shield couldn't seem to give me my refund although they said they were going to.
I called back a week later and asked them to give me my refund. They said they were shorthanded and haven't gotten to it. I called my credit card company a few days later and American Home Shield still hadn't done the refund. I called back a third time. It was pretty upsetting. They said that the refund was in line to get done and they were making an excuse. On the very first call, somebody could have just arranged for that refund pretty quickly on the computer. It's not rocket science. It was a hassle. But I finally got my refund.
When I called a month or two later for a second plumbing issue, the computer would not let me talk to anybody. It was automated and I did not want to give my credit card information to a computer. I tried like crazy to get a person on the phone which I was able to do a couple of months earlier on my other transaction. It really infuriated me that I couldn't talk to someone and that I had to give that information to a computer. I'm in my 70s and I'm not all up on all this automated stuff normally. Plus, I was in shock that I had to go through that. What was so crazy was as soon as I put my information on the computer and they took the $75, they said, they made an appointment immediately on the computer and the people called me right away.
The claim was for our garbage disposal and things worked out. The tech who came was very professional and he wore a mask. He was remarkable and he resolved the issue. A lot of people come out and they grumble. They're not even happy to be on the job nor are they happy they got a job. That's an irritant. We didn't get that person. Rather, we got the opposite so that really made a difference. On the whole, we're just happy as we can be with American Home Shield.

Sears came out for the dryer, which we thought was a dryer problem. The Sears person was very knowledgeable. He did some research and found that it wasn't the dryer itself. It was the electrical connection. So the problem wasn't the dryer but it reacted like the dryer because it wasn't getting all the electricity. So the Sears person did an excellent job. We had somebody else come out and do the electrical connection and that fixed the problem. Most times, it's pretty easy to submit claims with American Home Shield. The problem is that sometimes getting ahold of the people who actually come out is not so easy. It depends on the people that we're working with. We had a claim for the tankless water heater. Alfa Appliances came out and they were excellent. He had been out a couple of times and he replaced the part that day. The other plumber, he had to come back to find out what was going on. But in the meantime, I'd only taken a shower in one bathroom, and that's where I found out I didn't have hot water. But since then, I've taken a shower in the other bathroom and I've got the same problem going on. So, the problem hasn't been resolved.
I am working with a gal by the name of Katie. I've been going through the same problems over and over again with any number of things in the house that the inspector didn't catch and the real estate agent won't pony up on. I had to give myself a break from all of this 'cause I've just gone back and forth with everybody. I'm ending up having to replace the dishwasher myself. No one would take ownership of it.
Katie's the one who got me Alfa because the plumber who came in did such a bad job that I just couldn't deal with one more person coming in. 'Cause this is multiple contractors coming in on multiple problems. It's just been a nightmare. Katie stepped up and AHS absolutely needs to have more employees like that, who are proactive.

The freezer was not working, and I felt like American Home Shield handled my claim in a timely manner. It's a very simple process. It was easier to call. I know that with all the calls that come in due to COVID and all that's going on now, it's probably a little harder with the calls. But for some who are not necessarily computer-savvy, it could possibly be frustrating to have to go online to really get through to a service. I actually tried both ways. When I initially started the service, I was busy. So, I thought, “Okay, if I just tried the phone way, then I can complete this task and do that at the same time.” But that didn't work. Because I was on hold for a long time. I probably would have had the service done days prior because I would have been able to get through quicker when I was first attempting. But as soon as I called, they sent somebody right away. For those I know who don’t have home warranty or any of that, I recommend them all the time.

He was very informative on all the information that I needed about the new garbage disposal. He was very friendly. I didn't feel uncomfortable at all with him being in my home. It was a great experience.
I do my claims online to American Home Shield. That process was fairly easy. I just go online and pick whatever it is that I have trouble with. They kinda do a diagnosis. They ask you a few questions about what's going on with whatever it is that you need a request on to see if it can be fixed prior to or if it's something that can be handled myself before I have someone to come out. I thought them adding that new thing was helpful because at least, I wouldn’t have someone coming out and hand that $75 deductible over something that could have easily be fixed by myself. I have a home warranty that’s really good, really efficient and they service any of my needs. It's very cost-efficient as well.

Considering my house is about 20 years old with original appliances, having a home warranty was probably the best decision that I could make because I feel like the appliances are gonna go out soon. AHS covers just about everything that you need. Some are additional coverages but the basic stuff like dishwasher, refrigerator, stove, water heater, furnace, those types of things are covered. It was recommended to me by a friend who said that it saved them quite a few times.
Filing claims is easy. You just go online, follow the drop-downs and tell them what you need. Recently, my appliance was having multiple issues. It was filling too high so it would leak out of the bottom. It was also making a really bad noise. The door would open while it was running. The contractor came in and diagnosed it really thorough. They've discovered that the pump needed to be replaced so they left because they had to order the part. They came back five days later and replaced it. I was very happy with the work that they did.

Our heat turned off and stopped working completely. My husband did the claim to American Home Shield through the phone system. They contacted the company immediately and the contractor came out the next morning. They’ve been here before so we’re used to them. They’re good and we like them a lot. They repaired the heat but it cut after they left. The system cycled off and wouldn’t come back on. So, they came out last Friday and then, they couldn't come back until this past Wednesday. The tech said he had to reconnect a wire to the thermostat from upstairs to the outside unit and for some reason, the wire was shorting out. So, he redid that. It didn't take him long and it has worked fine since they left. We’ve had AHS a few years and we've been very happy with every claim we've ever called. The contractors come soon right after and take care of the problems. So, we've been satisfied.

American Home Shield sent somebody in here for a furnace repair. The thing was on and off. We don’t know what was really causing the issue. It will be working, and then, all of a sudden, it stops, or it would be on, and we'll be having some smell. I put it off for a while and called American Home Shield. But it was getting too cold, and that day, it was gonna snow as well. We have a three-bedroom house and a basement, and everything is getting filled up. I decided to try to see if it would work. Now, when I put it on, it started working again. But then, it did keep on going. After eight hours, you could see that it was on, but then it didn’t generate as much as it was supposed to.
The tech came the next day and I told him that at that time it was on, it was working. After he came and looked at it, it was like, "We don’t see anything. Just clean some things and let it go." We couldn’t figure out if it was a motor or not. In three days' time, it came back to the same crap. So, I called him again and let him know what is going on. That morning before he could come, I was so freezing. I had to go back and put it on again. It started working. I was like, “What the hell is wrong with this thing?”
The tech came and spent about 45 minutes trying to figure out why it was doing that. When he came, it was on. I was telling him again, “This is the issue.” So, he was not leaving until this thing cut off. Lo and behold, he was testing it, putting it on and off and trying to figure out, checked some wiring and all kinds of things. We couldn’t figure it out. We were here about almost two hours, then this thing cut off, and then he saw what I was experiencing. He said, “Okay. Let’s check something in there.” Then, he looked at the motor inside some round thing in there at the bottom and realized that the motor was smelling, and that is what the smell I was having in the bedroom because it’s coming through the vent.
He said it might be the motor. He was also surprised that it was working fine. Everything he had checked, it didn't seem to be the problem, but then when that thing went off, and then he realized that, “Okay, this is what you’re talking about.” So, he went into his car, brought in a new motor, and removed the one that was there, changed it, he was in front of me, and fixed everything that was supposed to be done. He worked in front of me and checked everything out. Once we put the motor in there and tied everything tight, it started working again, and I have no issue with it or any problem since then. The tech was patient with me. He was very professional and knew what he was doing. I’ve recommended people to American Home Shield, and I know they are also going to be fine.

I had two problems. One was with my dishwasher. Sears was great. I don't have the kind of issues I have with other vendors that sometimes get sent out. I like to get Sears because they help me resolve the issue. Some of the vendors that American Home Shield sends are just here to get their $75 and they leave, and it's really frustrating. But I work with American Home Shield and they usually will send me another personnel, and then we're okay. So, that was what happened with the dishwasher. The first vendor they sent out didn't resolve it at all. They tried to claim that we were a commercial property. I'm not. That's the second time that's happened to us with them. I ended up having to pay for my own, but American Home Shield had backed me up that time also. They ended up reimbursing me.
I had someone come out for a toilet and they said it was a commercial property because I have elders here and I have caregivers. So, they think it's a commercial property, but it's a house. So then, American Home Shield covered it. Sears fixed it. We got a new dishwasher now. I had it installed. American Home Shield is gonna reimburse me for it. So, that's good.
I've dealt with home warranty before, and American Home Shield is probably better than the other companies I had. I wish I didn't have to rely on them because you're always at their mercy of whether they're going to fix something or not. But American Home Shield does come through pretty quick. This last time on the dishwasher, they literally came through the same day with an offer for funding on an email, and they gave me my options so I didn't have to go back to them. I was able to actually go out and buy a dishwasher that got delivered the next day, and had my own person install it. American Home Shield said, “Just email us the receipts.”
The only problem is the vendors that they choose. They choose 1-star people. You go read the reviews and people say, “American Home Shield sent these, and I don't want to ever have them in my place again.” They need to work on that. It isn't fair that I pay for warranty and I get people that nobody would use outside of American Home Shield and other home warranties. These people wouldn't even have a job if not for these home warranty companies. They're very shady people. Some of them are really bad and I have to fight to get things covered. American Home Shield already had it in their database so that nobody would ever do that again, and then it happened again.

They were super timely, and my experience with them has been really positive. It’s super simple to submit claims to American Home Shield. There was one time I was a little bit frustrated. I had something else come up, and it was over a weekend, and getting service over the weekend was kinda tough. But then, with my previous air conditioning unit, I had people come out something like six times before. It was eventually completely replaced. The way it works out for AC companies, they are pretty busy in Hawaii. So, you make the request and five days later, this fellow came out. We had this AC issue drag out for months before it’s eventually fixed. So, economically, it still worked out and it’s really good to have American Home Shield. Having kind of a 20-year-old home, it’s definitely worthwhile to have.

Home Shield processed my claim right away and something was scheduled in two days, which was reasonable. My heater wouldn't come on and I’d definitely give the contractor that responded to my service call excellent marks. They did a very good job and they would be the ones Home Shield would want to keep on their network. Not all of my claims had been so well though. It depends on the contractor that responds. The processing of the claims and services has always been very satisfactory with American Home Shield. They're the only home warranty I've recommended to people. Throughout the 25 years, I've had at least two contractors that did a very bad job. They were both heating contractors and I'm assuming they got weeded out eventually from the network.
Two separate contractors committed fraud. One of them wasn’t investigated, while the other one was investigated by the Oklahoma Commission, but I never got the final results of that. I understand, it's hard. Home Shield doesn't have their own workers. They have to seek out and find contractors that are willing to do the work for a certain amount of money. Generally speaking, those contractors don't have a saturated business base, so they are open to something like that. Overall, as far as home warranties go, Home Shield does well. I couldn't expect 100% performance because they're dealing with contractors that they don't have direct control over. They can only react after surveys are done.

As the contract says, if they can't fix it, they will replace it. That was one of the things that attracted me to AHS in the first place. They try to come out so quickly as possible when they are called. The thing that amazes me is that if there's a problem, I pay $125 for them to come out. Then if there is another small issue, I don't have to pay that $125 due for if there's that person they see something else can do. That's helpful. Recently, Aire Serv of Southeast Michigan came out for a heating issue and they were able to fix it.

The first time I used AHS was for my dishwasher and microwave. The microwave never got fixed. The bulb exploded and the thing broke off in the microwave. Then the water never drained out in the dishwasher. It wasn't also fixed. This second time, I was having a problem with my kitchen sink. I couldn't turn the water on. Underneath the sink, the water was going everywhere.
When I called AHS and told them I had an emergency and I needed it right away because my husband's disabled, I have to cook, and I have to run water, they said they had to reroute the call to somebody else. The man came out on Tuesday and took about five minutes. He put us in for a new faucet and left. Then they still didn't get it in ‘til on Thursday. I was not happy about it because I explained to them it was an emergency. Emergency doesn't take five days. That cost me money ‘cause I had to buy food. Then, they can cut out all this middleman stuff about rerouting the call. Just call who they need to call and send them out.

The guy who came out for the motor on the fan inside the air handler that was bad was good. He was nice too. He didn't have the proper motor with him so he came back the following morning and replaced it. It blows a lot more now. I had AHS for about 7 years in my old house and I've had them about 3 years in this house. Filing a claim was easier in the past. They're a bigger company now that it's not as quick and as easy scheduling somebody to come out. Also, I hope they don't increase the deductible again. It was $75 when I started with them. Now, it's 125. The payment was $39 a month and now, I'm paying $51.99.

Some things get fixed immediately and taken care of. I had a garage door opener and it was done. There were no issues. It was the same case with the plumbing. I'm happy. Rangers Holding came out for a toilet and they're the best repair people I've dealt with so far. AHS also has a call back process which is amazing. You don't have to wait on hold forever. They did get better at calling back and they have gotten better at answering.
It's easy to get a claim going but it's horrendous to get it fixed right. It's a godsend and it's a nightmare. The vendors close a ticket out so they can get some payment. Then you got to call up and reopen it. AHS has to reopen that ticket but it is a logistical nightmare. They try to call the vendor and that will put you on hold. But a lot of times the vendor doesn't answer 'cause they're answering other calls.
I'm trying to get a refrigerator since April to be fixed. The repair people have come out but diagnosed it improperly. They've replaced parts but it wasn't right. The error codes came back. I had to fight forever. I said, "I'm tired. Can you send somebody else? I don't want these people to come out again." They said, "These are the only people we work with." Finally I said I deserve a certified Sub-Zero repairperson and they did do that. But now, I don't know where I'm at.
The consumer can't ever talk to the people that approves so we're one arm's length away from the person that makes the decisions. We have to leave something then a message gets sent to that person. Then that person has to decide then tell the repairperson to call in so we got to rely on the repairperson who doesn't want to call in 'cause he's been at this job six times and he doesn't get a good response from them.
The other side of that is the repair people has to call in for approval and they're put on hold for hours. It makes them not be good because there's no quick access to talk to somebody. If they've got stuff that they have to work for, a lot of times, they just give up or say it's completed. Then what happens is, ultimately, the customer has to sit, call back up and go, "Wait a minute. It's not closed." Aside from the refrigerator, I've got a double oven that was fixed but they couldn't mount it back in so it's sitting in the wall. It's heavy enough that it's going to stay there but it's not completely screwed in so it's a problem. That's something that they still say is complete. AHS needs a process for the consumer to sign off that it's completed.
For the electrical claim, a guy came out and didn't know what he was doing. He was over his head. He didn't allot enough time to do anything. He checked a few things, didn't fix anything and left then wrote it off as complete. His response was also wrong and inappropriate on how he categorized the job because he just wanted to be done and get paid. I asked, "Have you scheduled to come out again?" He he said it is not something that they handle even though it is.
I want AHS to fix their problems. They should make sure the vendor is very professional and working with the clients within the system. My concern is that they're not getting the highest level because of how their phone process has treated vendors. If they've got certain service providers that are not at the level that they should be, the consumer has to deal with all the mess. My recommendation is, if it's gone on for three months, there should be a way to escalate it so that the consumer can get it escalated to a problem resolution committee.
Are you still in need of assistance?

It’s pretty fair that the company, they send out companies to help out the homeowners and stuff. The companies that have been coming out are pretty good and reasonable, and I'm okay with it. However, I have an issue with the site. When you want to pay your balance off, it doesn't let you pay off your balance on the online site. You have to either call in to do your payment. I don't know how the company hours are. But sometimes I might be up in the wee of the night, and I may wanna go online and pay the bill. And that way, I could see what I'm owed and how to pay it off or put money down on it. And I don't have that option to do that. Other than that, when both of my toilets had a leak, they both got squared away. And the company that American Home Shield sent out was excellent. They had their masks on. And I was social distancing, so I let them go head on and hands on the bathroom, and I stayed away.

I feel great about AHS for the most part. We had sinks that were stopped up, one was upstairs, and the other one was downstairs. It was a slow drain. Turbo Rooter Plumbing came out and unstopped it. It didn’t take 30 minutes or more. I asked them some questions about how I could prevent it going forward, and that was that. My most recent claim for my dryer, my washer, and my microwave, Appliance Care came out and didn’t diagnose it pretty well. They worked on the microwave during Christmas time and just left it without fixing it, but then they left the oven incapacitated when the oven wasn’t broken at all. We had to go to somebody else’s house to fix it. AHS had to send out Sears to do a follow up. They usually call them to do the cleanup work for any of the contractors that can’t really figure out what the problem is. That was a small hiccup. Now I’m waiting on Sears to do it correctly.

I put in my request for service to have my heating unit fixed, which was not working at all. It was coming on but it wasn't staying on. It took a few days to get a person out but it was around the holiday season as well so I kind of understand about that. Once he came out, he was here for five minutes and fixed the issue. He knew exactly what it was when he came in. He just validated it when he went and looked at the unit. And he was able to replace the part and out very professionally and did a great job. He kept the floors very clean. We were able to social distance. He was right in, did the work, and right out.
American Home Shield replaced my heating unit as well as my air conditioning unit. With the air conditioning unit, that took a while to resolve. It might have been two weeks to get that resolved where we didn't have air conditioning in summertime. And my office was in the basement so I was struggling with that one. But once the person came out here, everything got resolved quickly. My drain was backed up. I submitted a claim that night and I got a notification in the morning who the contractor was going to be. About 15 minutes after receiving the notification, I got a phone call from them. They told me they could have a plumber at my place in 20. The plumber explained everything the whole time. Since he came out, the drain has been fine.
Years ago, there was a delay with the company that AHS sent out for my plumbing. I tried to tell the guy what needed to be done. He poured something down the plumbing and said it was gonna work. But, it backed up later that night and I was held off for another 24 hours. My other bad experience was with another company for my hot water tank that got busted at the bottom and started leaking. The tech said that he couldn't get a hot water tank. I couldn't cut water in my house and nobody was gonna pay to put me in a hotel. Instead of me trying to get a hotel room for eight people, it was cheaper for me to just go and buy the hot water tank. So, I ended up going out that night to find a plumber and buying a hot water tank from Home Depot. I had it put in and had AHS pay me back for what I spent. But, I didn't understand what it was going to take 48 hours before they could get a hot water tank to my house.
American Home Shield paid for everything except my 125 deductible. The other company was trying to charge me and AHS ended up waiving that fee to him because I couldn't see myself paying for that when I had to do the work. Other than these experiences, AHS works for me and you should review it because it might work for you.

American Home Shield now has a program where I can pick a vendor, so when I have the choices, I go and I look up everybody's reviews. I want to see how they've dealt with other customers in the past. A-1 had really high reviews, so I picked them and they were amazing. I requested service for my dishwasher and I got a call by 7 o'clock the next morning. I was not expecting that. The tech also came out that day, but he couldn't repair it at that time. He had to order some parts, and then he came back, but overall, I would highly recommend that particular company, and I would definitely use them again. It's one of the best experiences with any type of service with American Home Shield.
American Home Shield is one of the best investments. I've been in my house for 17 years and the older a home gets, there are going to be things that happen. I like that I have that security. All I do is get online and if I have a problem, I normally get someone out within 24 to 48 hours instead of me trying to look for somebody. For me, I would tell anybody, "If you have a home that's not really new, American Home Shield, or any one of the home warranty companies, is a good deal." On the other hand, the price for the home warranty keeps deathly going up, so it'd be nice if they could lower the price.
I've had issues in the past with my central air and American Home Shield doesn't pay a lot for that. I wish they would change that, especially with older homes. That's a huge problem money wise and things going wrong. Even though they say that they'll pay it, it always ends up as something that's not covered. They need to look at reevaluating that to make it a little better for the customer.
Thanks for sharing you experience and thanks for recommending us.

My ceiling fan that switches my light was hanging down in my kitchen and you could see the white wire. I don't know what made it fall, but when the gentleman came out, he looked at that and he said that needed to be cut down. I said, "Well, I don't want you to cut it down because if I'm not able to repair it under the warranty, I would have to wait for that." I felt like it was not so much that he didn't wanna help, but it was more like, "My company can do this, but we're gonna have to do x, y, z. We have to cut it down." I said, "No. Why couldn't it be just hung back up there some kind of way?"
Somebody hung it up before I moved to this house. And the way it looked was it's like they hung the ceiling fan, but it wasn't broke. It looked like the nails were maybe put in the right area on one side that's still up on the ceiling and the other side is not. I know that the light would still come on. It's still hooked up, but I didn't get the idea that they were really there because they wanted the warranty. The first thing the gentleman said was, "Well, I could cut that down." "No, no, no. I don’t want no." He said he will have to put that into his company, and they would have to get back with me on that, but he never did once say how they're gonna cover this. I was telling him, "The only reason why I called you is because I can see the wire." It's a heavy ceiling fan with the lights on it, and he didn’t attempt to do anything.
I did tell AHS and they were saying, "We can send another one out, but if they find the same thing, we'll have to charge you again." I told them I was not happy with the company that they sent out. They did that in my bedrooms before. I've actually had some things put in my bedroom. My ceiling fan came down from the ceiling part, and then they did something and they put it right back up. That was why I was like, “Maybe this is the same.”

CD’s Appliances was great. Cliff came out, and he was good. They communicated well. They showed up when they said they would. I would recommend American Home Shield to others. It has been great. It's the best warranty I’ve ever had.

We've had two repairs done through American Home Shield, and I was extremely disappointed with one. The repair people from Lenny's were terrible. They broke my shower. I think the tech dropped his drill. We had a couple of faucets that needed to be worked on. For the one he ended up in our basement bathroom, which was right in our shower area, he had to cut an access panel into the ceiling. During that time, he dropped a tool. It's a fiberglass shower. I have a big chip in my fiberglass shower, and the fiberglass seat is split. That work was done in May and I didn't realize that until recently. It's my son that showers in that shower all the time. I'm not happy with that. The tech did two access panels. Our basement’s only been finished for five years. He did another access panel and didn't even have the right access panel size. So, it looks horrible. I had another claim just in December, and that was fine. It was for a clogged pipe.

I had a plumbing issue and three days after making a claim, technicians came out and fixed that. They fixed the drywall too. American Home Shield has been pretty good. I've been pretty happy with them and I'd definitely recommend them. I just wish I could speak to somebody in the United States every time I have to file a claim.
We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us and thanks for recommending us. Enjoy your day.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is fairly easy. I call them on the phone. I had a claim recently. The tech had to replace an inductor fan. He didn't have the part but the next day, he came back and put it in, and it's been fine since. American Home Shield was easy to get ahold of. They sent someone out promptly and the repair was done properly. So, I'm satisfied.

When I filed a claim, I didn't see how to put two different instances in the claim so I ended up calling in. Then the AHS rep let me know that the contractors would be giving me a call to set up the time when they could come. One Way Electrical came in to fix the outlet in my kitchen that was caving in and then they fixed the light switch in my garage. They were fast and professional. Now, I don't have to try to use one of the outlets on the plug and I can actually turn the light on in my garage instead of using a flashlight.

Underneath the sink, there was a leak. My wife was home when the guy came. She said he was nice. He fixed the cartridge and he took care of the problem. Since having American Home Shield, I don’t have to worry when something breaks.
