The furnace wasn't producing heat. I went to the website and put a claim in. The contractor was excellent. It was something internal that they cleaned up.

There was a leak on the tap in the downstairs toilet and also in a tap in the kitchen. I sent in the claim through American Home Shield website. The contractor came and changed some hardware cartridges in one case. For the other case, something inside was loose and they fixed it.

I’ve only had one claim with American Home Shield and the setup was a simple and easy process. I appreciate that. My dad spoke with someone prior to my involvement to ask a few questions and that went well, too. I was impressed with how quickly a service tech was sent out as well. It was a plumbing issue and the tech was great. He was professional, very timely and easy to work with. Due to circumstances, I wasn't able to have the home inspected till after the purchase. We were trying to move quickly on the sale so it was nice to know that I could purchase the warranty. A couple of issues weren't covered by the warranty but it's nice to know that the ones that we found could be taken care of. It gives you a little bit of peace of mind that you're not going to be responsible for some unexpected middle of the night repairs or things that you weren't planning on. With everything else going on with moving into a home, it was comforting. So, that was helpful.

American Home Shield has been excellent but since the pandemic, I've been having problems trying to get the company that has been in my house several times. My washer was making noises about a week and a half ago. I called American Home Shield and made a work order. The contractor came to my house and repaired my washer. HAR Appliance Repair's Tony has been to my house several times. He's a very personal person and he takes his time. He tries to fit in my appointment that day and he does excellent work. He's very knowledgeable about the different appliances.
Then, today I called because I have another appliance that was not working correctly. When I called to request the same company, American Home Shield said that they don't have them on their list. But their tech just came to my house a week and a half ago. I have the tech's personal number so I called him and he couldn't understand that either. I understand the pandemic was crazy for American Home Shield and I get it. But today, I was unsatisfied with them and the service I got. I was really thinking about going to another home warranty company.

My gas furnace is working. The heat was coming out. There was a part in there that was wearing out, and it started making a loud continuous sound when it first came on. Like it was buzzing. The contractor came in very quickly, diagnosed it, repaired the part and bounced. They were good. American Home Shield's customer service changed to the point where everything's automated. It's simple. And we pay beforehand now instead of paying on the back end. It's good.

I had two toilets that were both functioning incorrectly. One had a bad flush valve and the other one had a bad fill valve. Jacobs Plumbing came out and replaced the components within the toilet that needed repair and took care of the problem. As long as it's a fairly clear-cut covered repair issue, the claim process with AHS has been very straightforward.
However, I have some electrical work that I still don't have actually done, which is a requirement to move a low-level electrical line. They apparently don't cover any of the low voltage electrical lines. I'm trying to engage a contractor for that on my own and it’s been less than successful. Therefore, I still have a line running around the outside edges of my living room. I had one electrician come out, who had previously done some work for me through American Home Shield, only to find out that he does not do low voltage lines. I found another one, but then something happened on their end, and they were not able to complete the work. I ran out of energy and time at that point. Hoping to get that done sometime this winter.

We weren’t getting any heat. And so a technician came from Sundance. He was very knowledgeable and he gave us some information. He said it looks like a control panel issue and he replaced that. But we still weren't getting any heat so he came back and said that the furnace needed to be replaced. Everything was through American Home Shield. The tech said, “Well, we contract with them. We don't do any outside work so everything goes through AHS and they contact us".
I got an email saying that the claim was being reviewed by American Home Shield, and there were limits on my contract. They said to call, which I did. They only give me much information. would have thought that it was online since they have that setup where you can go online and make claims but you can’t check to see the progress of what’s going on, you have to call somebody.
I understand a lot of companies use foreign people for staff, but sometimes it gets really hard to understand them. I called this morning because I wanted to find out the status. I said, “Well, the technician said that you all will review the claim, you all will contact them.” The rep said, “Well, you probably should call them.” I called Sundance and the woman said, "No, AHS tells us what's needed and we do the review and then we let them know." She said, “AHS needs to order it and when it comes in, they'll get ahold of you. Custom work needs to be done to access where it needs to go".
This is a condo and the furnace is upstairs on the roof. So, the opening that goes up to where all that stuff is is through one of the walk-in closets. The access is not big enough to take down what's up there and put in a new one. So, there was gonna have to be some work done to enlarge it. The contractor doesn't do that. I talked to the man and he said, “Yeah, AHS takes care of doing that but there’s a charge that you will have to pay.”
Also, the man that I talked to at American Home Shield said my part would be $2,236. And I said to the lady at Sundance, “Would you verify that". She checked and she said it was $2,970. So I’m still not sure what my part is. Other than that, AHS's service has been pretty good and I've been okay with it thus far. They've been quick to get someone out.

Everything is pretty quick with the claims process and the techs have been professional. I had maintenance on my furnace and the techs came to check on the AC again after they fixed it close to a year ago. But I had one tech from Cutting Edge acting rude while my wife was here. They replaced the compressor and a few months later, we had no AC. I was telling Home Shield was, “Why is it that not even a year later, the AC is not working? And then when we have to get it done, we have to recharge it with Freon and spend hundreds of dollars all over again.” AHS was supposed to get back with us but nothing has come about. I don't want to be spending an extra amount of dollars. AHS should just get companies in, do what they have to do and get them out - not fix something just to say, “Okay, it might last a couple of weeks or a couple of months or a year.“ Other than that, I'm pleased with AHS.

I get an email from American Home Shield when I submit a claim. Sometimes, the contractor calls me for an appointment. But usually, I end up calling them. When I call them, they usually answer the phone. When they call me, they have two days to get in touch with me. Recently, my refrigerator wasn't cooling. ALERT Appliance was great.
The guy that came out was knowledgeable. He took a look at everything and he said that it needed a new control board and ordered it. From my understanding, the one that they sent was the wrong one, so they had to order another one. But the guy was very apologetic. The fact that they were willing to come out after hours, which they didn't have to do, and he wasn't gonna leave until it was actually working. I like American Home Shield. I think their prices are a little high. But the service that I have gotten from American Home Shield seems to be very good. I just wish it wasn't $90 a month. When I started with American Home Shield, I was paying 63 a month.

When I purchased this property, I was given list of every home warranty company. I read through everybody's brochure front to back and did a little bit of googling. There seemed to be more satisfaction with American Home Shield and the package was better. Recently, I had an uncontrollable leak in a bathroom tub faucet, and I couldn't shut the water off. I called in the claim once I got the water off completely in my house. When I called, I had to go through the switchboard and they give you a longer estimated wait time than it took. Patriot Plumbing came to take care of the claim and two faucet drains, and the experience with them was great.

So far, so good. AHS has been responsive to my requests. I have them for my home and for my other place up in Palmdale. They were used twice up in Palmdale and the tenants were happy with the people that came out to do the repairs for their issues. Here, I had one claim and the contractor was quick and called me to schedule the appointment. I was happy with that. When the technician came out the first time for the washing machine that kept stopping, he thought he had fixed it, but it was not fixed. I kept getting an error message. Another guy came out and replaced the memory board. When they were here, it worked right. When they left, it stopped working again so I had them come back out. It's working fine now.

We had two faucets that were leaky and a shower that needed to be redone. The claim process is pretty simple with American Home Shield. The only hard thing is getting a hold of a person if you have an issue. It would take sometimes an hour to talk to a person. We had an issue where we were waiting to hear back and it ended up that our separate fridge and freezer wasn't covered even though they told me when we started with them that it would be. The agent didn't know and I didn't read the contract that it wasn't covered. So, that was a misunderstanding.
But their contractor Aladdin's Plumbing was quick and they were amazing. They have to get some parts so they're coming back but everything they did was great. As far as how fast everything that's automated goes, it's flawless and AHS does a great job with that. The hard part, is when you do hit a hiccup where it’s like, “Oh, is this covered? Is it not?” We had paid for two different plumbing guys to come out before they told us it wasn't covered. Those guys should know the minute they walk in and say, “This is your plan. American Home Shield doesn't cover this."
There could be a searchable database where they can see what is covered when they're coming so they don't waste their time or our time. That would make it easier for their contractors. If we have a problem that American Home Shield doesn't cover, they want us to come to them for business. But if they're not well supported by American Home Shield, then we get frustrated with them and it's really not even their fault.

We chose American Home Shield based on a recommendation from our friend who used them. We've had three claims and the most recent one was for our dryer that stopped working. The contractor had to order a part and come back. We were over a month without a dryer. I didn't feel like the whole company was very professional. It was way too long of a process but most of our other times have been better. Air Plus came for a preseason check. They said everything looks good. Our filters were clean and heater is working. I had a soft spot in the floor and it felt like I was sinking. If I walked over it, I thought I would go through the floor. I pulled the carpet up and the hardwood was damaged and it was an all-around thing in our floor. So I assumed it was a leak. We called the plumber and he came. He went under the house, checked everything, and he saw that the porch leaked and that it brought it towards the house. The porch was on an incline. The plumber told me that he would call American Home Shield to address the issue. But they would not honor it because it was not a plumbing leak. It was a rain leak.
I also had an experience with the oven. It would not work. The tech came in, spent 10 minutes in the house and 15 minutes in the car. He walked back in and said he could not find the part that was needed. AHS offered to give me the money for it because it was an old oven. They gave me $400, which I haven't received a check. I had some issues about it because my husband passed away the second week we were in the house. And his name was still on the statement. So when I got the first check, I couldn't cash it because my husband is deceased now. They haven't sent the second check and it has been three weeks now. AHS just said it's in the mail. So they said the post office is running slow.
AHS first gave me just plumbing, duct work, the basic. But when I saw the contract, I said I needed the appliances on there. So it was an additional $150. But I did that because my husband is not here and I said I needed something. Just to pay somebody to come, not even trying to find anyone. That would take a lot off of me. AHS needs to listen to the customer. Other than that, go do it and read the fine print.

My refrigerator was not working. A guy came and took a look at it. He pulled out the fridge, did some tests, and worked on it. Afterward, he said would have to report to American Home Shield then get back to me. The home warranty called and said I could go buy another fridge. I did that and sent them the receipt. I've been using this home warranty for a while. I have four properties now that they cover. Initially, I used them once in 2000 and sometime in about 2015. I then went to Choice Warranty. Two years ago, I signed back up with American Home Shield. Compared to Choice Home Warranty, they're nice and great.

I had Total Home Protection prior. I was having struggles. Even though the deductible was lower, I couldn't find any technicians to do any of the work that I needed. And that was a little frustrating. My brother had American Home Shield, and he was really happy with it and the results that he had gotten. Whereas we both had different things at different houses at the same time, and his would go through and get done. And I would still be waiting. And he said, “Well, you need to change.”
I first called, then AHS scheduled someone. He called me a couple of days later and did a video chat so he could see the microwave and what was going on. And he said he would order the parts necessary and have them mailed to the house. He said it might take 10 days. But it took much less than that. And he said when they come, I should call and we would schedule an appointment. It was the 21st of last month it was first scheduled. And it had to be changed to the 28th for some reason. But I only had one incident which I need to follow up on. They replaced the heating coil and something for it to spin. It's an above-range microwave. But now the fan doesn't come on, where it did before they did anything to it. I hope I don't have to pay another $100 deductible for it. Other than that, they were very professional from beginning to end.

The heater stopped working and the service heater light came on. At Your Pool Service, the contractor, gave me a call and told me that they got my claim. I’ve dealt with them before so I’m familiar with them, and they said they would come out in a couple of days and let me know what’s going on. They came out when they said they would and fixed the problem, and let me know what the issue was. The heater is working as I would expect it to. We've had a good experience with American Home Shield so far and the things that I have expected to be covered have been covered, and that's helpful. It's been nice to know that we have it and I renewed the contract because we had to use it several times over the last year when we moved into our house, and it was worthwhile to keep that security around because we would continue to need it.

The customer service department was terrible to deal with it. They were telling me that they were scheduling somebody, then they would call and cancel that person. Over the summer, I was at the point where I was going to cancel my policy. There are a ton of companies but AHS doesn’t have enough service providers in my area. So, they always use Fire & Ice. For our recent experience with AHS, the techs did a great job. I had a washer that was not draining correctly. We called them and they made the appointment. They showed up on time. They took care of the problem and the problem seems to be resolved. The only thing was that AHS had a long wait time on the phone. They keep you on the line for a long time, about 30 minutes before you can reach somebody you can talk to. Also, I've had American Home Shield for years. It seems like every year they increase the prices. I started with them with $59 a month. Now, it's $81 a month and I'm debating if I should keep them. The first person I called way back when I first used AHS wasn't good. So, I complained about their service. The second time, they sent this gentleman from Express Appliance. So, when I have an issue with something, I ask for that person because he is competent and fast. He has been very quick at diagnosing problems.
My latest problem was with a front-loading Whirlpool washing machine. It was making a thumping sound and the basket inside wasn't going around properly. It looked like it was off balance. The tech diagnosed that two of the brackets that hold it in place had broken and the basket was off-kilter while it was going around at a high speed. He couldn't rectify the issue and recommended that I get a new basket in the machine. He said that he needed to go back to his shop and see what was in the contract, call American Home Shield, and see what they would do about it.
AHS has been worth it. It seems like a very good thing to have. I wish we had it for the roof though.

After making a claim on my non-working refrigerator it took three companies before the real problem was found. It took almost six weeks to get a replacement because it could not be elevated as it wasn't really urgent! I was also told because the work order took so long I would be refunded my $109.50 service call fee but I never received it. I was told finally that since the problem was solved I was no longer eligible for a refund. Their credibility is zero as far as I am concerned.

I had an American Home Shield warranty for 1 year. At the 13th month of service I see that my auto payments were higher. I noticed this on the 3rd month into the increased rate. I called to find out why and I was told that my contract was the same but rates increased in my state. But this was not the contract rate I agreed to though. And, I was definitely never notified of an increase. I find this very suspicious since I can start a new account at my same address and the rate would be the exact same as it was all year. I believe they just increased the rate to see if they could get away with it. I asked to speak to someone that could help and my call was terminated. I believe I should be refunded for the difference of the increased rate. Going to cancel service and advise others to stay away from this company.

We live in a three-storey townhouse. The second floor is where the kitchen is at and it has beautiful hardwood floors. We had a problem where there was water was everywhere. T Mayes was the company that came out and serviced me. The work took more than a day. They were able to figure out that the water was coming from the refrigerator so they took the hose from the back of the refrigerator and put it in the sink and let the water drip down in there so it could be repaired.
It took a while but they finally got things under control. We got the floor mopped up and waxed. But there are some slabs where you can see there's water that's still underneath because you can see a difference in the color around the rim of the hardwood and how it's laid on the floor. Other than that, T Mayes was professional and they told me to feel free to call in. If I had any questions, they were there for me. I really appreciate the outstanding customer service that they provided me with.
American Home Shield has been very responsive to any of my calls. They've been sending out people who are qualified to do the job. It may not seem like immediately wild things are happening and it seems nothing's really getting done. It takes time and for them to get it right. There is one problem I have with American Home Shield. I called them about three or four times about a problem and they kept having different sales reps to assist me. I need one person because when somebody else comes behind somebody else's notes, they're not really getting what I'm talking about. I then find myself explaining over and over again to get the person to understand the severity of what's going on and how I need immediate assistance.
I know that American Home Shield cannot assign one agent because they're a huge company and they have people coming in and out of different hours. I can call them after midnight and they're probably open 24/7, so I would get a different person. The thing is, you don't know whether that different person is taking copious notes the way that you would want them to take or whether they're just writing down anything.
It also took years before we used American Home Shield because we moved into our house in 2006. The most major thing I called them for was for the refrigerator leak. I asked them to give me a new refrigerator but they would not do it. They kept trying to repair the refrigerator instead of giving me a replacement and that irked me. That didn't make sense. I'm glad that they had the leak fixed in the refrigerator. But if I have another problem with that again, it's going out and American Home Shield is going to pay for it. I ain't playing this time.
Water damage not only goes from the floor that you're on but underneath as well. On my first level my house, I have water damage where the water went down the side of the wall and peeled back the paint everywhere. Now, I've got to get somebody to repair that. But for the most part, I would still use American Home Shield. I'm very satisfied with them and have recommended them to a lot of my friends.

We bought the house and the seller said that they were furnishing us with a one-year warranty from American Home Shield when they sold the house to us. We had difficulty with getting the whole plan started because somebody didn't get the address correct. It had our street address placed in a different city and zip code so we never received the information about the warranty until I called. We worked hard to track it down with the Realtor’s help. Once it started, then we were fine. I would just recommend that buyers make sure the address gets done right.
I made a service request and a person from Realty Rekey responded on the same day that I made the call to American Home Shield. He scheduled it for the first day of the following week, which was only a few days and on a Monday, so it was happening right away and that was fine with us. The service person came out and was very friendly. He was masked and he did the job. He accommodated our requests on which locks to do, which ones not to do, and how to do it and all that. He went above and beyond. He measured my door to my basement to see if my washing machine can get down there. He put the heater in perfectly and then cleaned up after. Everything works perfectly. Sears, the contractor, couldn't fix my oven so they gave me an option of replacement, which I would have accepted but the one that fit my wall unit wasn't available in my zip code. The next one was $1,800 plus what they were putting towards it and I couldn't afford that. But I found one online for about 1,200 bucks and American Home Shield is sending me 1,300 so I'm happy with that. The only thing I'm not happy with, and it's not their fault, is they were supposed to get back in touch with the people who came out for the fans that I already paid for, and I haven't heard from them yet.
I have been through some warranties and most of them out there are liars, and they do not replace or fix or anything. They leave you hanging. I haven't received the check yet, but AHS gave me the option of the check so hopefully it's being processed and on its way. If that happens, I would be very happy because I haven't been able to use my oven. People should not go anywhere else. They’ll get screwed over so they should go with AHS.

We used American Home Shield a few years ago and then, we purchased our new home. I originally had another company that we started with, only because they offered some specials, and I had the worst time with them. I said that I was going back to American Home Shield and never leaving, and I have had such a wonderful experience. We've been in this new home for about a year and a half and I've had to get a few things taken care of to include HVAC systems. Most recently, we had servicing done on our system for preparing for the winter and I've had a great service with them.
The contractor was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable of what was going on. I was able to be on the phone when he and my son were walking around. He took the time to look at the systems and some of the possible concerns that we could have with the little leaking and gave an assessment for us. He even gave a tentative quote that we all might have to consider. It was nothing life-threatening and nothing to where we had to get anything changed. But he said that if we should choose to, he would recommend it. And if not, he gave us what we could be prepared to do in the future. So, that was very helpful and good. I felt comfortable and confident that he knew what he was talking about.
If I brought a question up or a concern, American Home Shield sat and explained. If I didn't understand something and thought a charge or something that wasn't covered, they came back and clarified what the contract says. They even tried to see how they could assist in making sure the issue that we had would possibly be able to be covered. I absolutely love AHS and I felt horrible leaving them.

I also wanted to make sure that the unit was working properly because it was loud. So, I didn't know if it needed some cleaning or they needed to clean the fan or see what was wrong with it. It ended up that the filter also was very dirty. The previous owners didn't change the filter for quite some time, probably since when they got the unit. The techs were very professional. They went the extra mile because I was asking just to verify the unit but one of the guys went into the attic to see what the problem was. They gave me some extra tips on how to keep the airflow properly around the house and did a couple of extra stuff that I liked.

We've had AHS since May of ‘21 and it usually takes a week to 10 days for them to assign it to a contractor. That's slow and then the contractor is hit or miss. AHS needs to expand the number of contractors that they have servicing a given area. That way, it's easier for them to get the job done in a timely manner. They had assigned a plumber who took weeks to come out. Our oven went out and I have a request pending. It's been eight days and it hasn't been assigned to anyone yet. They also need to expand their call center because it can take 45 minutes on hold to actually get to talk to someone.
Scheduling service with Interstate Healing was a lot easier than most things through Home Shield so that Pro Connect thing is working. They had the claim assigned within a couple of days. I contacted the heating company and they immediately set up the appointment. The tech was on time and had no issues. Our house is on a well and we knew that going in so I got coverage for extra well pumps. Sure enough, within the first month, the well pump went out and I have coverage. I would have been out $2,000 on my own if I hadn't thought about that. Other than it taking a while, we've been very happy. The warranty was a really good purchase.
Look at the house you're buying and see if it has any peculiar requirements so that you make sure and compare coverage and add-on coverage to what you're going to need. Don't hesitate to file a claim. If something breaks, let AHS know.

On a Wednesday, the compressor on my AC wasn't kicking on and it stopped cooling. So, I did a claim with AHS and the next day, Thursday, Tca HVAC called me. I talked to them and they set up an appointment. They came here first thing Friday morning and diagnosed that it was not the air conditioning unit compressor. They checked it and it turned out that the breaker in the panel that turns the compressor on was going out. It's supposed to be 210 and it was 118. So there wasn't enough power to kick the compressor on. Naturally, the HVAC guy couldn't change that because that's electrical and I understood that. So, they closed the AC claim and filled out the paperwork to transfer it to electrical. I've used them several times in other instances, so I'm familiar with their people and their work. They do beautiful work.
I knew it was going to take a little bit for American Home Shield to transfer and authorize to get me an electrician that Friday, so I waited and waited because usually, the minute they do it, it pops up my phone and on my screen in my portal. Finally, on Sunday, I still did not got anything and I realized that I didn't have any air conditioning. It was 75 degrees in New Orleans which was cool for New Orleans, but it was still hot. So I called at about 11:00 or so that Sunday morning, went through the process, and talked to Gilbert. He said it was going to take them 48 hours to process the claim. But I told him that it went in last Friday. He said it takes them a little while and I said I'd be very patient. So I waited.
On Tuesday afternoon, I called again and another guy answered. He saw all my notes in there, then he said that it was going to take a while and that they didn't get the claim until Monday afternoon. But I told him that they got it on Friday because I know Crystal and Jeff who run the place, and they sent it in on Friday at 2 o'clock. So they've been having it for that long and American Home Shield dropped the ball on mine. I'm a relator and on Wednesday, I thought I was just going to call Tina, who's the regional for American Home Shield, when I get to the office in the morning because it had been a week with no air conditioning. I've been sleeping with my windows open in the back of my house and going under the pillow next to me.
So I walked in the office for our sales meeting and Tina was our speaker. I told her what happened and had my service thing printed out so she'd have the number. I told her that AHS was still waiting to process my claim and it did not show up in the system. I was fortunate enough that I know the people and I know who called. Not that it did me any good for a week, because I didn't want to pull a favor. But at this point, it was now 78 degrees here, 90% humidity, and I was still sleeping with the gun. Long story short, Tina called AHS and after about an hour, the service claim popped on my phone for High Voltage A/C, Heating & Electrical. I've used them before on one of my properties and they are deadly.
So I called Tina and she said they were so booked up because of the storm. She said they were so backlogged and it'd be a week before she could get me another contractor. But I said I was not going another week. She said she'd call customer service and get Sonia to call me. So evidently, Sonia left me a message that she had found somebody and I'd be getting a text. But when she left a message, my transcriber left a number off of her phone. While I was doing the errands, my phone rang and it was an unknown number. But I answered it and he asked where I was. At first, it freaked me out as this man wanted to know where I was. But he said he was from the electric company and that he was in front of our house. I told him I was 10 minutes away. and to not leave. HE said he happened to be in the area and when I got there, he was in my driveway.
In 15 minutes from the time he walked in, he was finished. I came in, pressed the button, the compressor kicked on, we let it run for a minute, then I turned the whole system off. And then, he said I got to wait about six or seven minutes for it to go through a cycle. I said we should make sure it went off and came back on. It did and he was gone. We spent more time talking than we did anything.
Th same thing happened to me once before on a dishwasher. The guy came and checked the dishwasher and an icemaker, and he said he'd call in the one for the dishwasher. He said he needed to transfer the claim because what was wrong with it was one of those where they'd let you buy a new one or trade it off. I told him to do whatever he wanted, I just needed it fixed. But it took them about two weeks to resolve. It was during the hurricane and it was hard with messaging and telephones. It took 10 days before American Home Shield acknowledged what the guy sent in. So that's a little kink they got in their system. But other than that, I recommend American Home Shield. They take care of everything and for my last claim, the AC pump people did their job wonderfully.

American Home Shield's service is very good. The contractor did a really good job with my furnace. The techs were timely, explained what was going on and talked about what was the next step, and pulled through. Last year I went with another company when I first purchased my home and it was a horrible experience. It was close to the end of the contract and I had a toilet that split on the sides so I called that warranty company. They sent a technician and that tech was supposed to report back so we could make an assessment. He did not report back and I had to call nearly every day for over a week.
I had to escalate my claim and call different people. I let the company know how displeased I was. They came back and said it was not normal wear and tear and that there was some type of impact to the toilet. I told them I didn't agree and that wasn't correct and they said they could send somebody else. So, they sent the second person. And that person just stood at the door and just looked at the toilet. He said, “Oh, yeah, the screws are too tight.” The claim was denied and that company didn't pay the claim.
I have never had that issue with AHS. Take this warranty. Grab it quickly and don't let it slip through your fingers. In comparison to what I had, I have a plan where I can get my HVAC checked before the season comes in. When the tech came, he found something and said, "Well, just call American Home Shield back.” I did and they got somebody else back out and diagnosed it. It was much easier than my previous experience.

On the whole, American Home Shield has been really good. I've had the warranty for a number of years and they took pretty good care of us most of the way. It was really good to have the backing and not have to write as big a check. There was one job though for a hot water heater and the vendor came up with a bunch of extra expenses. He said, "American Home Shield requires that I bring all of this up to code, and they won't pay for it." The cost was prohibitive.
The guy really zoomed me and I was very unhappy about that. I went over them with my own plumber and he said, "Well, that's not necessary. You needed that, but it's too much." I felt a little uncovered at that point and the guy should have taken better care of us. It was two days before I was leaving for a 10-day trip and I had to get it done. There was no time to quibble or argue or switch to another vendor.
But every other vendor we've had has been terrific. The last contractor was good to deal with. They were here on the same appliance once before and did a great job. Now, there was a different problem and they fixed it right away. They're a good vendor and I would call them back if we needed them. AHS is a good thing to have especially if you have an older home. My home is in really good shape, but it's also 60 years old and stuff goes wrong and needs to get addressed. The coverage has been very helpful and I would recommend it to almost anybody.

We ran the washing machine and water came up in the sink and filled it up. Water also came up somewhere from behind the washing machine and went into the garage and into the laundry room. There was an issue with the sewage pan. We were also having an issue with three of our toilets not flushing properly. We reached out to American Home Shield.
I dealt with Brick Plumbing on the phone and they scheduled the service. The technician called and let me know he was on his way. He was professional, really thorough, and he went over and beyond. He explained everything really well as he was doing stuff. He was one of the best plumbers that I ever worked with and I was really was impressed by him. In the end, everything was fixed. We've had a great experience with American Home Shield. Aside from the washing machine, we also used them for changing our locks and that was pretty smooth and easy.

I had a plugged line and AAA Flexible Pipe Cleaning did an excellent job. They are clean. They replaced the part that was all plugged and put a different pipe in there. If I have any other problems, I'd call them. On the other hand, I don't ever want that other place out here again. All he wanted to do is snake it. He said, “There’s nothing I can do.” They were out about three times and didn't do the job right, so they shouldn't get paid and they should be off of AHS' list. Overall, American Home Shield can't help who they send out, but they did their job.

I had some things break down in the kitchen, so American Home Shield replaced them or gave us money for the value of the appliances. I also had to have the pool's pumps replaced and o-rings done. It was taken care of. So, I was really happy with how everything went. I just paid the $100. That is what was great about it.

There was a leak underneath our kitchen sink and there's water underneath the sink. The gentleman who came out said that it was coming from the faucet. We have one of these retractable faucet sprays. He took it, said that it was loose, screwed it in tighter and said that fixed it. It didn't fix it. The faucet probably just needs to be either replaced or that part on the faucet in the sink just needs to get fixed somehow. I called Whitney back and then I received a phone call from one of their reps about three days later. But I did not give them a call back to say, "Hey, this issue wasn't resolved." So, they did try to call back and contact me to resolve it, but I did not follow up with them on that. My reason for signing up for American Home Shield was that if I had a problem like this, they would come out and fix it on the spot and I would not have to waste time calling them back, playing phone tag and doing these different things.

The claims process with American Home Shield is very difficult. They've gotten better about answering the phone because sometimes I used to wait two hours on the phone. I'd have to put it on speaker dial and just wait. Now, on the average, it takes about 10 minutes. But I have spent hours on the phone with different situations repeating. In fact, I have one right now that has been very recent that I've been dealing with.
I have a rental property that the AC was replaced in June and the compressor was not any good anymore. American Home Shield sent out a good contractor. But the problem is the paperwork of getting it done. The contractor had gone out there but then they're hard to reach too. So between trying to reach them and trying to come back, it turned out that they needed to submit some more paperwork to get this compressor. So in the meantime, I have to do all the leg work and call back and forth on this issue.
The people at my rental property have been out of AC since the 18th of October. Not only do they have their AC out, but the water heater is not heating. I called them both at the same time. But the same thing happened with the water heater. I called it in, had Best Tec Plumbing come out, and then they serviced it, and then the renter called me back and said it's still not heating. I had to make another arrangement for the Best Tec to go out there the following week and they went. I had to make a couple of calls to hear from them and when I finally reached them, they said, "We've already done our part. You need to get back with American Home Shield to find out about the water heater."
I called on the 2nd of November to talk to American Home Shield in a very lengthy conversation about this water heater. I told the rep that I needed the serial number and model number. After being transferred a couple of times, she told me the serial number of the water heater. I asked her the brand name and she said she didn't know. I said, "How do you not know? How can you send out something supposedly that's sent from American Home Shield and you do not know what it is?" So then, she said it was a GE gas water heater. She then said, "Ma'am, it does have a one year warranty. So, you need to call GE to make arrangements. Because if you have another claim or whatever, it's not going to be valid because it's under warranty. So, you have to contact the manufacturer." I said, "Why should I have to contact the manufacturer? I'm not the one that placed that water heater there and I'm not the one that hired the contractor." She said, "Well, ma'am, that's what you have to do." So after that lengthy conversation, I went ahead and pursued calling GE.
When I called GE, they transferred me three times. When I finally got to tech support, I spent about an hour talking to the rep. She said, "There is no way that was supplied by Moore Supply. And I'll tell you why." So, she educated me on how to tell the year of the model of the water heater. She told me it is a 2007 water heater and that they stopped making those water heaters in 2012. After a lengthy conversation, she said, "I've always had this problem..." Just on and on, she was telling me stuff. I said, "Okay, well, you've educated me. There's got to be a paper trail. Let me go back to talk to the company." She told me that they would do anything without a receipt. But I told her that I didn't have a receipt. So I said, "Okay, you know what, there has to be a paper trail. So, let me go back to the company and get to see if they have a receipt, if they bought it out right. Or if not, if it was sent by American Home Shield, there has to be some sort of accountability."
I called the plumbing company again and I said, "Look, I called GE and GE said there's no way that this was their product, and this was since 2007, and they need a receipt. Do you have something?" But the GE rep gave me a completely different number than the girl from American Home Shield gave me. It turned out the information that the GE rep gave me was for the old water heater that was replaced before. So, I wound up getting the new number from the plumbing company and the data purchasing steps. Then the rep said that now that I have this information, I have to call American Home Shield back because I have to get another work order number and pay again to get it serviced so they can find out what the problem is.
For my house, I had an air conditioner that was brand-new that American Home Shield replaced, and it was not any good either. So, I had to wait for a long time. When I called about that, I spent hours talking and repeating myself almost verbatim because every time I talked to American Home Shield, I'd have to repeat the story all over again. It's like there's no documentation as to anything that I've tried to resolve. I got so fed up with it that I told them that I was going to write to the CEO. I was furious. I have three different policies and every year I get charged more.
In summer, American Home Shield would assign an AC company and then they said, "There's no one in the area." I said, "Well, you know what, that's not my problem. You need to find someone that'll take your contract because that's not the deal." It's not acceptable for me to call American Home Shield and then they would say there's no one in the area. It has always been a big fight to get stuff accomplished. I've been with them for such a long time and now I've got to get things resolved because I'm at the point that things are starting to break. But it has been very frustrating.

The AC initially stopped cooling and when I did the claim online to American Home Shield, the first was good. The second time I had to use it, there was a whole section missing where I can choose central air conditioning. But the service from the contractor was amazing. Most of the time, the experience with AHS is good. But sometimes, it's not. So, I stay with them because I've been with them for a long time. But there are other ones out there that are probably better. So people should make sure that they know what they're getting into. They should research it very well before they make a choice to choose AHS.

I moved into this condo in November or December with a VA loan. As part of the process, they asked me to choose a home warranty company and I chose American Home Shield. Then I forgot about it. They sent me a notification in August that I'd be up for renewal in December. I got a few things around the house that needed fixing and so I opened four tickets. One for a slowly filling toilet, one for a ceiling fan that wouldn't turn, one for a garbage disposal that wouldn’t turn, and one for a microwave that decided to self-destruct and melt part of the cap where the microwave was coming out and caused a big smoke.
On three items, AHS performed admirably. They sent someone out and I got timely service. I had to pay a $75 copay for each of those three events. On the fourth one, the microwave, I also paid $75 and they sent out a guy in which English was his second language. He sounded like he was from Eastern Europe. I showed him the microwave. He took pictures, asked me a couple of questions, one of which he had to look up on his phone to translate, and I explained my answer. Based on his report, AHS decided to deny the claim saying it wasn't normal wear and tear. I was pretty frustrated about that. He even mentioned the glass platter on the microwave was missing. I explained to him that when it did this stuff, it shattered into pieces so I threw it away as it was dangerous. I showed him some shards of the leftover. But he reported it as missing, so clearly, there were some issues with communication.
AHS sent me an email saying, “We have urgent information on this dispatch,” and that led me to call them. I gave them a verbal appeal over the phone. I also sent them an email to their appeal staff and that was early last week. I offered if that is an option. I don't believe I should pay for the second opinion because then I'm out 150 and I still have no guarantee that it's going to get me where I need to go. I haven't heard a peep from them. I was extremely happy with the people they sent out on those other calls. But if they continue to deny it, not only am I out $75 to be told no, but I have to spend 500 bucks on another over-the-range microwave. I can't do both and I'm disappointed in that very much.

I'm having an issue with my AC cooling. One of the things that the technician did was take a look and he diagnosed the problem, but he also said it was difficult to find out how effective the solution was because it was a cold day and there was not a whole lot of heat in the air to take out. So he said we may need to try to do this again later in the spring-summer timeframe. But I don't know what my warranty will cover in regard to what happens next. When I had an issue with a ceiling fan that broke, I thought it would be covered but I found out it was not.
Requesting the technician through American Home Shield was relatively easy. The one thing that I wish I had an option to have is a larger selection or a chance to pick a company from a list as opposed to American Home Shield having a preferred list of folks and then they go through the preference one through another. But so far, American Home Shield has been good. They're decent and good for what they have.

I had inexperienced or unqualified plumbing technicians come out to my house and they caused a secondary leak into a pipe. Then, they damaged a fixture and didn't bother to say anything about it. That caused another leak at the showerhead of my shower to the left. The technician used an improper tool to align my handle for my handheld shower and now, it has scratches in it that weren't there prior. You can see the grooves from the tool where he turned it instead of using something appropriate or even trying to use something to soften. He straight used it and damaged it without any care or regard to my property and they moved one of my body sprayers, so it’s no longer flushed to the wall. It's protruding from the wall.
Initially, the very first time that I called American Home Shield in regard to this, I called to ask to submit evidence because I already knew that the company, Patriot Plumbing, was gonna deny what they did. I wanted to submit everything that I needed to so I could submit documentation evidence of damage done. If AHS would have taken that initially, that could have maybe jumpstarted what happened thereafter and what's happening currently. Also, Ginny, the initial person that I spoke to from the escalation team, told me she would get back to me but she never did and I haven't heard from her since.
AHS should have taken what I was saying seriously, even if it was found not to be, but just considered it as if it is because this is part of my frustration. I'm a little disappointed because I still have a hole in my wall and damaged fixtures in my house, and nobody from American Home Shield is communicating with me. So, I find myself calling several times a week to get an update. I even let a whole week lapse between the last time I called and there's still no update. I haven't received anything and every time I call back in, I have to say this all over again. It's frustrating.

There have been some difficulties here and there, but generally the claim process is simple. I opened up a ticket for my AC and the guy came out. With the AC access in the attic, I didn't know that the ladder had to be pulled down for them. So he just looked and said, “I'm not allowed to climb up there and get the ladder. Unfortunately, I can't do anything.” I said, “I paid, think it was either $75 or $100. So you’re not able to do anything?” He said he couldn’t right then. But he said if we would provide him access later, then he could.
We have a tankless water heater. We were getting hot water in other places, but not the shower. We also had a leaking toilet, and the leaking outside faucet. Bill was able to address the shower. Unfortunately, our warranty doesn't cover showerheads. But he let us know we needed to buy a new one, because that was the issue. So we did that and he fixed the issue with the toilet and let us know what the issue was with the outside faucet. Our warranty also doesn't cover outside faucets. But he tried to do as much as he can. He also provided some washers for us to try to use to see if that would fix the problem. He went over the problem and let us know how we could fix it, and what parts we needed.
When I called in to add the items to the plumbing ticket, the rep did not understand that an outside faucet is outside. He thought it was inside the toilet. And other problems like when I needed to cancel tickets. I was told I would get a refund and it would automatically be done. But it wasn't. I called back to find out when it would get here and they said I needed to wait so many business days first. But I still didn’t get. Eventually, they fixed it. But just that.

I'm still waiting for the $125 to come out since the repairs on the refrigerator was done. But I've been with American Home Shield since 2015, so it's been fine. Some of the companies that they use are stupid.
The company that they have right now for the refrigerator put in a new unit but it didn't work. They found some wires that had shorted out and they fixed them. But now they have to get another part, so we're waiting on that part so that they can fix the freezer. This has been going on for three weeks. But they're a good company. I had a dishwasher problem and the gentleman that was sent looked into it. The gasket was falling apart and somebody else replaced the gasket, but he didn't check out the washer. Then, after I tried to use it, there was no pressure. So, this more recent man came and checked it out with meters and ran it and said that it was not getting any pressure on the top. He got the part and brought it in a timely manner. I cannot say enough good about that company. This was the first time I have been happy with service from American Home Shield in a very long time.
However, I would like to see them change the fact that they have offshore people that have to deal with that don't understand what the customer is talking about. Also, they need to vet their contractors better. Like in the bathroom, one contractor put the sink closer in crooked, so it was very strange to work. I called back and AHS sent somebody else out, and he walked in with his hands in his pockets and stared at it and said that he had to remove that whole thing to fix it and there was nothing he could do and left.
I have had nothing but trouble with the plumbers that came out, and those people run their mouths and don't do the job. They fixed two different problems with the toilet. Yet they didn't flush it to see if it works or to see if it doesn't leak. Every plumber I have had out here until this guy, I would never let in my house again. But when I have been dissatisfied recently and called AHS, they have sent out other people and not charged me.
When looking for a home warranty, read the fine print and see what they cover and don't cover. The only way you can tell is by having the people sent out. If they're not any good, call back to the warranty company and tell them that the contractors were not professional or weren't performing the job. If the warranty company pays attention to you, then it's a good company. If they ignore you, then it's not.

The claim for the freezer went well. Just got that completed two weeks ago. But the air conditioner has not been resolved. It has been four months since my initial call regarding the AC system. It freezes up. And I was told it was the coils that need to be replaced. But I have not received any recent status. I have one contractor that came out. He came out here and looked at it, but it was very quick. He told me he entered it into the system. He immediately purged it from the system and I was not told about it. That delayed that AC call right away.
He was using a website and a name that I found in New Mexico. I called the proprietor in New Mexico and let him know that he was using his digital storefront for marketing. It was bizarre. So, American Home Shield should screen the contractors a bit more thoroughly because that individual seemed like he had done that before to people. I filed a complaint. AHS said, “Well, we can enter it again.” So, that was a bit confusing to me that the contractor could just drop it out of the system without AHS knowing about it. The communication flow is a little frustrated there.
When I called back, AHS got me another contractor. He came out, but I have not heard the status of that. That has been quite a while. But he said it would take some time because it was replacing coils. Fortunately I recharged the AC with Freon and it's holding its system, but it failed twice since he came. So I'm waiting for it to fail again and not hold the Freon. There was a leak in the coils in the main unit. He identified that. I've been debating whether to get rid of the service because I don't know if it's worth my while. I've had AHS for over a year now. I never had a claim until recently with the AC system and the refrigerator.

American Home Shield's website is easy to use. There's a button that says, “Submit a claim.” You tell them if you need plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or whatever you need, and then tell them what the problem is. When my toilet was leaking, they assigned somebody and said it was J&L Plumbing, and that they would contact me for an appointment time. It was really simple. As far as the timeframe, it was the weekend, but they called me within one working day to set up the appointment. The tech was great. He came over and looked at the toilet, told me what the problem was, went out to his truck, got the parts, and fixed it for me. I've usually had good experiences with American Home Shield, but I had a horrible one last year, which was really convoluted. It took a long time to get the issue taken care of. Every now and then, you hit that stumbling block but overall, AHS works for me. I’d tell others to go ahead and get it.

The company that first came out said that it looked like a slab leak and they couldn’t help so they left. Apparently, they don’t fix whatever I have going on and they said they would let American Home Shield know. So, the second company is coming out today. I’m not happy with AHS. I've had other issues where I had a garage door that would pop back up often and I've called and paid the fees a couple of times to have that fixed. And within 24 hours or so, it's doing it again. I never made a follow up with American Home Shield, but the contractors don't come back out. So, I don't know that I'll keep AHS much longer. My son who's an actual engineering student figured out the problem and fixed it for me. So, I don't know why I pay these monthly fees and the $100 fee for somebody to come out twice and not fix something.
From what I understand from other people who have these types of warranties, if you used them, they can be worth it. I kept them because we had a washing machine go out, and it was a very long, drawn-out process to get the washing machine fixed or replaced. We told the company what we thought it was and they sent out somebody new who had zero experience to order something completely different. It took days to get it. Then the guy came out and said that it wasn’t the problem. That claim was super inefficient as well and, in the end, AHS ended up having to replace the washing machine, which made sense for all the fees that we paid.

But I've used them twice for this property and I haven't had a problem. I just have the usual with the guys showing up late and not calling. But that's been the only issue. Communication needs work still but that could be due to COVID that they don't have a lot of technicians. Service may be running behind or they're not able to get anybody out within days, especially on emergency cases.

The techs that came out for our furnace recently were good. They were on time and took care of the problem. However, all of these technicians either do electric or plumbing or AC. I've got a little plumbing issue, but I haven't called to take care of that one yet. But if the AC guy also was a plumber, I could have that done at the same time. But everything I've needed done, they'd come and taken care of.

The tech was very responsive and flexible. He made it easy to contact him. I needed to have a little bit of a later time and he made it work with the schedule. AHS is there for what it needs to be. I recommend it. I've used it a couple of times and it's been the same contractor each time. That has worked very well.

The claim took a long time. I wasn't happy with the first guy that came out so we had to get a second opinion. A third guy came out but nobody notified us, to tell us how long it would take and what they would do. And I had to keep calling back. So I wasn't happy with that part. At one point, I was, "Just cancel it." I didn't want to have to deal with it because it was too much. It was more stressful wondering what would happen. If we could just fix it on our own. After it got done, the tech came in and fixed it. The contractor that worked there was rude. We didn't care for him. But the second one that came out was really nice. I would still keep the warranty. But I didn't like the way this one went. The communication could have been a bit better. I hope the next time around it goes a little smoother.

My recent plumbing claim with AHS was addressed properly. The guy fixed it and everything is okay. The one that did not do anything was the electrician that came before the plumbing. I paid him 100 bucks and he didn't really do anything for us. I spent $100 for nothing, just for the guy to come, take a look and tell me he couldn't do anything about it. Submitting a request with AHS is really easy. It’s whether or not you can get the techs on time to come and fix whatever you need. There’s a delay of two or three days. It’s difficult to get on the schedule with the actual contractors.

My washer was not draining water out properly. Once we did a complete load at the end, the water would still remain. American Home Shield sent out a company and their guy did not seem to know what he was doing. He installed a used drain pump and left my old one. But they were telling me that he installed a new one. This guy also came to my house three times and couldn't get it right. He wasn't listening. His first and second assessments of the problem were completely wrong. My refrigerator in my garage was the other issue that he had to fix. He had to come in twice for that because his first initial assessment was incorrect. He was all over the place.
I was also a bit frustrated with American Home Shield. This thing went on for almost 10 days and I was not listened to at all. I asked for a supervisor and there was no one around on site that could take my call. I asked them if they could send me somebody else. It took me calling and going crazy for them to finally send another company. I never had that experience with American Home Shield. Usually, I say what the problem is, they send somebody and they come in. They usually know what they're doing. They could tell me this and that and they fix the problem up.
All in One Appliance was the second company that came for my washer and they were the ones that actually fixed the problem. They pulled out the equipment that the original company said they installed. It was old and rusty streaks were running up and down the pump. In the inside of the main part of that pump, all the lights were orange and had just gone. The All in One guy did his assessment then came back the next day with a brand-new pump. The box was closed. He opened it in front of me and installed it.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I've just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

American Home Shield has been good so far. The only thing is I have to pay out of pocket a lot. I had to replace the evaporator coil in my AC and I had to pay $700 to repair them. The home warranty says that they cannot fix something, they would replace it. But even with that, the customer still has to pay a ton of money out of pocket.
I had another claim for a roof leak and the technician did a good job. He came on time and repaired the right thing. The home warranty was a little beneficial because if I have someone else do the repair, they would charge me $99. In this case, I already paid American Home Shield a service fee of $75. This claim is in the process so I got the authorization. The home warranty will pay 1,500 and I have to pay 1,500. Consumers need to be aware that there are a lot of out-of-pocket payments for repairs even if they buy the plan. The plan helps out a little bit but you shouldn't think that you won't pay anything. When you go in, there is also the deductible on your side.

They had to order the part and the gentleman that came back was very professional. He knew what he was doing. Plus, he corrected the problem right away. Recently, I had a leak in the faucet and the serviceperson corrected the one on the left. Once he left, I went to the back and noticed the right one was leaking. He was a very nice and respectable but I think the moving and pulling on the other side to get the leak corrected caused the other side to leak. She told me that she would have a local contractor either call or be out there within 48 hours. Then I got a phone call, and we made the arrangements. The person that came out was very friendly and he took care of the issue. He messed around with the garbage disposal and tried it out a few times and then eventually determined that he had to replace it. I was very skeptical that we would get a timely resolution because I thought American Home Shield was going to find some reason to either not look at it and not take care of it. But it was super easy and very smooth. It was just one phone call. I did not have to follow back up to find out where we were with it. Everything happened just as the representative said it would.

Having to break the payments down like that is great. I would never cancel the policy due to the fact that as your house gets older, things are gonna break. The last couple of times that I've called American Home Shield, they were able to send someone out the same day, so I really appreciated that. I did my request that morning, and someone was here that morning. They resolved everything the same day. But one time before, I called for my washing machine and I had to wait a couple of days for that. So that was annoying.
American Home Shield has come in handy. Even though the service fee has gone up since I initially signed up with them, it's still cheaper than what I would have to pay a plumber or an electrician or whoever to come out to do whatever the service is. When I initially got it, the service fee for the first year was about $49 and then after that year, it went up to $57.99. I didn't like that. But if you use it at least two or three times a year, it pays for itself for what you would pay for.

For many years, I used to always buy American Home Shield, and over time, I realized that when I have a critical emergency, it's almost always impossible to get any service provider through them in a quick span of time for any service. This particular case ended up being unique, because the service provider that we used is a mile from our house. I scheduled them directly as I wanted them to get here fast because it was an urgent issue. Then I called American Home Shield back and they were able to switch that request over to this service provider, which was fantastic, and it worked out. So I guess the point there is that when you have a true urgent need, American Home Shield almost never works out if it happens to be during a weekend. Because nobody will get back to you until the Monday following. Emergency response is very inadequate for American Home Shield.
We had a backed-up situation and we didn't know what the full scope of the problem might be. I had somebody back out to investigate that. But they cleared the immediate issue and it was like a sewer backup situation. They cleared whatever blockage and problem there were and got things flowing again, and take care of us. If you're strapped for money, it's a great insurance policy against a major system failure, like replacing an HVAC system especially for younger homeowners, it's really helpful. If you're more established, and you have a little bit of an emergency fund -- and this is the reason why I stopped using American Home Shield the last many years -- I end up better off just saving the money that I would pay in policy and using that to repair the things when things arise.

The first time, I called for my toilet and American Home Shield sent a plumber out. Simple job as he said, but I ended up having to get a new toilet due to him cracking my toilet bowl. When the second group came to replace the toilet bowl, there was so much attitude instead of just doing what they have to do. They were pointing out so many things that were wrong with my existing system setup but they weren’t giving me any recommendations as to how to get it fixed. They also came back and sent me a quote for $1,200. I called Home Shield back and told them I wanted someone else to come and I didn't want those plumbers to come again. They sent Lockhart Plumbers who did an excellent job in rectifying the problem and it was no $1,200 issue.
Recently, I had three ducts to my heating system that need to be replaced and the unit is not working. The guy who came out the first time said that the ducts needed to be repaired because water had gotten into them. He also said that if I had to put a whole new unit in. Thus far, the work is being delayed. I talked to someone at the company yesterday and they said they were waiting on pictures that I’m supposed to send in. I went as far as I could go and sent some pictures. But I told him that it didn’t make sense to me that I had to do that whereas they already had a technician come out and take pictures as well. That young man was very informative and I was pleased with what he told me. I was expecting what he said to happen, and thus far, it hasn’t.
What I really find surprising is the $100 deduction. Whatever the plan that a customer has, that needn't be taken out regardless the work has been performed or not. In my case right now, my $100 deduction has already been taken out of my account, but my job is not complete and it’s very slow-paced. That’s the only thing. But I’ve recommended American Home Shield as I have no problems with them. I just so happen to have gotten one good out of three disincentives contractors.

It was right when COVID hit and it was not good. It took them a month almost to tell me they couldn't find the parts. I don't know if someone lost my case or whatever it is when they put it in the system. I kept getting conflicting information.
I was on hold for hours until days for someone to call me back. I strongly considered, at that point, canceling American Home Shield because it was so bad. I went and bought a washing machine. I just waited my time out until they could say, “Yes, send your receipts in and we'll just send you a check for the washing machine.” But I had an appliance issue recently and that worked out perfectly. It went so smoothly because the gentleman that came out to my house kept forcing the issue. “If you can't find the part and you know you can't find the part, you need to tell her that because it's going to be months that she's going to be without an oven.”

American Home Shield is good in the beginning. However, some of the technicians that come to the house are just there for 10 minutes, hurry up to leave, and pack their stuff. They're running late, they want to go home. Also, the message doesn't get conveyed from customer service to the technician, so there's a lot of miscommunication in between, from and to. Then all the calls go to overseas, and it's not an English barrier, it's understanding in US what we need and what the call is for. The customer service people need to type in exactly and listen to the customer and root cause and be detail in the note. Then, when I call US representative, they understand. When the call goes overseas, it's totally different.
For example, I have a two fridge in the main kitchen, and I need both of those checked. One is broken, the front door doesn't close. Another one need to be checked and let me know what technician recommend. When it goes to the message to Sears, the tech came in and said that he would not check it as he didn't have paperwork or document and I need to call back my home warranty and have those sent to him. Then, he just left, 10 minutes. He didn't care regarding a customer giving him business. They care about the money instead of the service.
I need to send them a little more. But I called, I'm paying the company, so I also need service. For 10 minutes they're gonna be charged 75 bucks. But I have another five minutes just to look at it? You don't have 10 minutes to look at it? If it's a major problem, communicate to the guest. "So you're going to take two hours so I have to reschedule. Call your company and moving forward." They did not put any document in it to check it. Other than that, everything is 5 star. Everything is 5 star. In pandemic, people are working hard, in rain and shine. And so, I'm happy. The communication level from one point to another point is totally different.
It's just somewhere is missing something in training the message. The manager's training and role play, it would be better to understand. At the end of the day, 90%, we are happy. Things happen. I was upset with the way the technician treated me, but I did not treat him like that. But overall, I can understand his frustration. The company is just sending him everywhere around. He has to drive and traffic, his family, kids, you need to be home or he doesn't get paid enough to do this kind of job.

Sears came out for the refrigerator. It's a Samsung and we have had issues with it since we moved into the house. It was something that AHS had come out and fixed about a year ago. But according to the tech, there's something inherent with Samsung that has problems with the icemaker. It’s getting liquid all the way up to the top of the refrigerator.
This time, the heating tube broke and the Sears tech put in a new heating tube. That was about a month ago and since he came, it has been leaking. I called back AHS and Sears came back out. They found the container cracked, which he's thinking was from the ice freezing and thawing. When I explained to him what the first tech said a year ago about the water getting up to the highest part, he said it wouldn't be a problem now. Whatever he fixed, it got fixed. We haven't had any leaks since and the icemaker is working.

When I was fussing about American Home Shield wouldn't cover what needed to be fixed and I had to put money out of my pocket, I didn't like that. But they offered to sell me the other one at a discounted price, so that made it a lot easier. One thing I noticed that changed is AHS doesn't allow us to talk to people as much. We just go through automated systems. But that is the world we live in at the same time, too.
The biggest thing that made me like AHS was they cover things that are obsolete. But I'm a Realtor, so I know other warranty companies are the same way now. That's the best thing for people to look for when they look for home warranty companies. The only other one that might give them some competition is another company whose name almost sounds the same that allows people to use their own contractors.

I'm a little bit disappointed with American Home Shield. I put in the job for my microwave that's over my range. The repairman said, "You need a new one." They put the order in for Home Shield to get me a new microwave. They called me, which was fine, and said my microwave was on the way and they gave me the stock number for the microwave. By chance, I looked the stock number up. My kitchen is stainless steel. They were sending me a white microwave. I called them and I said, "That won't go in my kitchen. My wife would have a fit if she comes home, she got a stainless steel kitchen with a white microwave. You a female. How would you feel?" I called them and then they all of a sudden told me, "We don't match colors." I got pissed off and I said, "What'd you mean? I'm paying for this. It's not a color, it's stainless steel. It's not white, it's not black, it's stainless steel."
I had to end up buying the microwave myself and I got to send AHS an invoice so they can send me my money back. Right now, I'm out of $500. My initial payment for the serviceman to come out from Home Shield was $100. That's the deductible. So, that was $100 right there gone. Then, I had to pay for the microwave. That was almost $400 right there. I also had to pay the guy to put it back in and that was $80-some. To top it off, I had to pay the people to install the microwave. So, I wasn't too happy about that situation. It left a bitter taste in my mouth and me and my wife are deciding if we will go somewhere else with our business.

In my recent claim, the plumber came out twice. The first time, when there were four different issues, he didn't do so well. He had to come out and repair a leak that developed on the supply line. But he replaced the input lines, which made the situation totally comfortable and I didn't suffer any water damage. The big concern on that particular repair was that he reported back to American Home Shield on the kitchen faucets that they were impacted by paper debris, and AHS denied the claim for those. Then in the process of investigating the faucet, the plumber broke one of them, and so I was out two kitchen faucets. I had to pay him out-of-pocket to replace those. Now, the plumber came out for some other new repairs recently and did a fine job on those. His work was good, except in that one instance. It was a mixed experience but I'd have him back again. I liked that he was responsive and I have never had that from other vendors.
However, I blame American Home Shield because I word-searched the document and nowhere does it say debris. It says that it covers contamination. I argued with the rep that the debris was synonymous with contamination in this regard. The plumber gave an honest description. AHS just made a dishonest interpretation of the contract. I also had a prior claim with them for electrical issues. They came out and fixed one of the four. But it was, again, not the service provider. The rotating fan’s bearings were failing and they needed to be replaced and AHS denied it. They said, “It still turns. It’s good.” Then I still had a plumbing repair prior and AHS tried to deny that saying it was outside the house. I told them that it was inside the garage and it should be covered as it was right in their contract. I finally got that one covered, but it shouldn't be a struggle. I dislike their customer service and I wouldn't be leaving them if they just followed their contract.

Right now, I have a washer and dryer that are kind of not really the best and I gotta replace and I've not received the replacement check value from American Home Shield. Every time I call them, I get kind of a little runaround deal. If a washer and dryer goes out, a family's looking at going to a laundromat, which is unacceptable in my book.
They could improve on the speed of reimbursement because I didn't like the washer and dryer that they offered us. I wanted to shop local and I chose the replacement check option, which is my right through the program, and they said it would be 21 days. I think we're well past their 21-day mark. I just went to my mailbox and I don't see a check. If I chose their chosen model, I could have had it delivered in like two days but since I didn't and I'm waiting to buy with a reimbursement check locally, it's taking weeks. I find that a little bit weird. Another really weird thing is I pay them with automatic deposit so why can't they just reimburse me through my checking account? Those are my main gripes.

I was a bit disappointed about the issue with the water heater not being covered but looking over the contract, it didn't appear that it was covered and it was fair that I got the refund back for the service call. The claim for the refrigerator was acted on almost immediately and I was satisfied with that. I was satisfied too with the service people who came out for both the water softener and the refrigerator. It's just that the refrigerator that we have right now is limping. The check for the buy-out has taken a little bit to get to us, which is a little bit funny because nowadays, the way everything works is it seems like funds could be exchanged within minutes. It is ironic that we have to wait up to 21 days for a check. Other than that, 99.9% has been great which includes the way I've been treated, the fairness and the response from American Home Shield.

Our AC wasn't cooling. The tech that AHS sent figured out the problem. It was good but AHS is a little bit expensive to pay every month. Sometimes, you use it only once a year or you cannot use it at all. Every time they come, I have to pay $100 for just the trip charge. They should reduce the price. Also, some companies are easy and they know the problem while some companies waste their time and labor. They don't know what they're doing. They order too many parts and it doesn't fix the problem. Also, they need to speed up the process. Last year, I had to wait three months without a washer and dryer.

Our HVAC unit was making a noise. The claims process of AHS was easy. The techs were able to access the unit and took care of everything. They were able to make adjustments that day and reminded me that I have 30 days in case anything else comes up. My personal experience with AHS has been fine. I've had other people in my family who have the insurance and they have not had as good an experience. But I haven't had to deal with those major issues as they have had. Hopefully, it continues that way.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.

The hot water heater went out. I called AHS, then about 30 minutes later, I was surprised that I got a call from Loyalty Home Services saying they wanted to make an appointment. I thought that I would get it the next day, but it was pretty fast. When the tech came in, he told me what he thought it was and explained to me very well about what the problem usually is in hot water heaters, which would be the switch. He said he'd switch it up and he did that. But he took a picture of the control box so that in case I called back, AHS would go ahead and order it, then he'd come in and install it. He was very good and punctual. His company also sent me a message that he was on his way and I could track to see where he was. It was very nice to know exactly when he was going to arrive.

We had an issue with the dryer about a year or two ago. A repairman came and fiddled with it, then he replaced a belt and it got better. Then a couple of weeks ago, we had a problem with the dryer again and ServiceMax USA was sent out. This young man stood there. I turned the dryer on and he heard a loud sound. He said that it was one of the two rollers in the back. He took the top off of it. He held one of those two rollers in his hand and turned it. He popped it off and handed it to me. It would hardly even turn. Then he said that the heating element is not working properly either. He put a temperature gauge and all of a sudden, he said that it's either bad or about to go bad, and in fact, it's not even sensing it. He put it in for a replacement. One week later, his dad came and had the part in and out in 20 minutes. Now we only run the dryer for 10 minutes compared to the two hours we used to be running it. So, spot-on fix.
However, we wrestled through a couple of HVAC systems in this house. It has three AC systems in it. In our first few months, the unit in the basement went under and we had a couple of misfires of technicians coming out thinking they knew what was wrong. I finally had enough and I said to do a buyout and start afresh. That time, it went pretty smoothly.
Another year or so later, the upstairs unit that is in the middle of the attic had an issue and it affected majority of the upstairs. We went through three or four technicians and AHS even switched the company once in the course of it. We kept hearing noise about the fact that we'll never get the AC out of there. We couldn't get past the technician, and then we were wrestling with the AHS processing desk. It went on for a couple of months before we had that resolved.
We finally got somebody to say that we could do the cashout if we wanted it. I took the same path I did initially in which AHS wrote me a check and I spent money on top of it. The new one, which is actually higher SEER, is much more efficient, and we just added the freon there. The technician had to cut the piece of equipment apart to get it down through this little hatch. I guess the people put the AC in there when the house was being built instead of actually shoving it up through that opening. Then the new unit itself went up through the little hatch and in the attic, and it was two thirds of the size of the thing. Before, the ducts are bigger, so thanks to the technology improvements. Hence, there are now new units that have the warranty from the company first, and AHS second. Overall, when people ask me on what warranty I have, I tell them that I'm with American Home Shield and I’ve been happy.

I've had American Home Shield for many years. And recently, I had a lot of things that needed to be fixed and got the same issue that's I've had over the years with AHS. They would send some companies out here that don't do the job. But every now and then, I luck out and I get a good company. And I would put in a great review for that company. But more than that, I get companies that don't. They want to rush through the job. They don't communicate well. I would call AHS and say, “Look. This company came off here. They didn't fix the problems. And I need for you to send somebody else back out.” And you know what they would say? “Well, that would be another $100 for a second opinion.” I said, “No. I'm not paying another $100 for a second opinion. That's absurd. They didn't finish. They didn't do the job.”
I can understand if they tried to do the job then they left and they didn't fix it, which that just happened recently. And on one case, I had a dryer that was 17 years old. I cannot afford another. One of the knobs was broken and the guy that came out here told them that due to misuse, that they couldn't fix it. And I said, “How do you misuse a knob after 17 years?”
So AHS tried to charge me another $100 just to send another company out here. I refused. I asked to speak to a supervisor. I had to go through a lot of legwork. Eventually, they sent another company that came out here and fixed the problem within five minutes by just changing the knob. But it took me a lot of stress, a lot of leg hours arguing, “Let me speak to a supervisor. “I know they're going to tell you the same thing I'm telling you,” I said, “Okay. Well, let them tell me the same thing. But put me through.” Back and forth.
Recently, I've had the same issue. I haven't even called. I told my daughter, “You know what? I’m not even going to bother to go through this. I'm not,” I said. I pray and hope I will be able to afford some new appliances. If they send somebody out here, good. And sometimes, I've had to try to look up companies that they have come out here. Or whoever they send, I have to stay on them. I have to say, “Okay. If you need any help, let me know.” And I would say, “Please, when you finish, let me know so I can check.” And here recently, I had major surgery and I came home to find little things wrong with my freezer, washer and dryer. One was the knob. One was they needed to replace a latch on my washer. Nothing major. Just because they're getting old.
Everything broke down in my house and the guy recently fixed one toilet, but the other wasn't fixed. And they didn't fix my dishwasher. Because I hate to go through all the mess, I told my daughter, “If I have to lift the thing up here just to flush the toilet, I'm just gonna let it go.” The tech was frustrated. He came and I told him, “My son changed this out some months back. But maybe there was something that was still missing." And he just looked at me and he said, “Well, I can't fix anything that somebody…” I said, “This is why you're a plumber. I called for a plumber for this case. So if you don't fix it, I'm gonna have to call another plumber to come out here and fix it. It doesn't matter what the problem is.” He just went on and replaced the lever and it's still not working right.
And they have been out here to fix the same equipment many times. So over the years, with all the money I've paid, I probably could have got something new by now. But it doesn't work like that. I had a refrigerator and the freezer part didn't work. I have had contractors come out four different times over a couple of years. But they could never fix it. I didn't know that if it wasn't fixed within 30 days, that I could call and have them come back out without having to pay again. So I ended up buying a used refrigerator. They come out, they fix it, but sometimes they just put a Band-Aid on it for it to last long enough because they know if it goes past 30 days, then I would have to call AHS again. That's very disturbing. I've been with AHS for 15 years. And my monthly payments that are drafted keep going up every year.
I've tried to pull up a little thing on all the different companies and I don't know if there is anything out there different. But that is an issue. And I've explained this to AHS that that is an issue with me when they send somebody out and I have that problem, that either they just fix it long enough then it breaks down again. I've never had anything over the past 15 years replaced that I didn't have to fully pay for. One was my water heater and my air conditioner. I got a few little companies, too, that I put in great reviews for that did the job really good. Does AHS read reviews on them? Does AHS make sure they are with the Better Business Bureau? What filters do they go through? Because over the years, I have not had the best of luck.
Eventually, I get the job done but it's because I push through. I would call AHS back and say, “No. Send somebody else. Do not send that same company,” until I get the job done. Then it would be, “Okay, that's all I wanted. I just wanted you all to fix it. This is why I have American Home Shield.” But it's beginning to be more of a hassle than what it's worth. I pay $62 a month, and $100 per visit when they come out here.

If you got a plumbing issue, American Home Shield sends it to the contractor and it takes up to 24 hours before they call you back. The contractors have their own contractor. So, the contractor would call me and set up an appointment to come. I've got no problem when they come and do the work. The only thing I hate is it takes up to 48 hours before they come. If you got water dripping, you got to deal with it for two days until they come out to fix the problem.
One time, the water heater was dripping water out and we didn’t have hot water to take a bath. When AHS gave me the guy, it was gonna be two days before he could come. The water heater was no good so I had to get the water heater myself. AHS told me that they couldn't pay me back for it because I was supposed to wait. But other than that I’m glad to have them because they helped me on certain things. I can always call on them and they know the people to get to solve the problems. So, I would still deal with AHS.

Once the other person was out, the boiler wasn't actually broken. He just had to light the pilot and turn the switch on as somebody had turned the switch off for the heat. The company let me know what was going on and was always sending me text messages and updates.

Home Shield is a parent company that hires out and as far as a concept goes, that's awesome. The only issue I had in the past was the service depended on the sub being sent out. Other than that, it's good. Sometimes, you get a sub who is awesome and does exactly what you need them to do. But there are other times that you get a sub that has no clue what they're doing and they make the situation worse or they can't figure things out.
I had a plumbing call about a year or two ago. My shower was leaking and it wouldn't stop running because the handle broke off. There's a cartridge inside that controls the water pressure. I had to shut the showerhead off. When the plumber came out, he said that to fix the problem, he would have to break my wall open to do this, that, and a long gamut of stuff. I didn't like what I heard so I asked Home Shield to send another plumber out. A guy came out and fixed the issue in 15 minutes. Two years later, we still don't have that issue.
The other day, the contractor ATR came out. Their guy did a diagnosis of the HVAC unit right away from what I told him was going on. He had the problem fixed within 20 minutes and we've had no heat problems ever since. I had another HVAC call some years ago where the technicians couldn't care what was going on. One guy said he didn't know how to work my system. He left me high and dry with no AC. Another company came out and fixed it. No issues, no worries. I told him what the other guy was doing and he said, “No. This wasn’t supposed to be happening.”
There are some instances where Home Shield used some mom-and-pop companies and I've had more problems with those companies than with the larger companies. But some of the mom-and-pop companies have been better than some of the big companies. The best thing that Home Shield can do is to quality control the subs they use and make sure they get customer feedback from each visit, because Home Shield is only as good as their subs even though they're not necessarily in charge of people they send out. The other thing with the home warranty is sometimes, you don't necessarily get a call center stateside so it’s a little bit harder to deal with the folks you're dealing with because they don't have the same playbook that the stateside call center has.
I've been without a home warranty before. You pay a $75 dispatch fee upfront and things get fixed afterward. I have a fairly large house so I pay 50 or 60 bucks a month for my premium. If you have one thing break in the house, that's $600 you spent for the year. Home Shield pays for itself tenfold. I have gone through a company like Michael and Son where I had an AC fixed and I paid 2,000 out-of-pocket. But with the home warranty, I’m covering the HVAC system, the ceiling fans, and everything else in the house versus me just paying that one company that one-time payment, and I still have to fix anything else that comes up. So even with the not-perfect scenarios as far as the sub goes, the home warranty is still worth doing because of the cost that it costs you to fix something in the house.
I recommend getting a home warranty. Things are going to happen within the house, especially when your house is older. My microwave was replaced recently and all I had to pay was $100 for the upgrade. I got an $800 microwave in my kitchen installed that I loved. It’s one of those things where you have to pick and choose.
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done.
We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.
