    3 Boys was fine. But I had a problem with Home Shield. The process was very difficult when I submitted my claim over the phone. The customer service team was good. But I held one day for an hour and a half, and the phone battery went dead. I still didn’t get through. Home Shield doesn't want to honor claims like they should. I had to get a refrigerator and they gave me a downgrade. The one that they wanted me to have was like an apartment refrigerator. So I had to end up adding on to get a decent refrigerator.

    Our heat went out in our basement. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield was extremely easy. The technician was fantastic. I've had several dealings with American Home Shield people over this past year, and this was the best service I've ever had. They were very prompt. They got it done. They put in the new part. I'd had some of that part put in the summer, and they couldn't figure out why it went out. They put in the new part, and something else blew immediately. They fixed that other part and then got me another new part. It was Friday. They got it for me by Monday. It was an extremely quick service.

    American Home Shield, in general, is a good company. There are a lot of technicians that I don't think are that good, and I've kept a notice of the ones that I did not agree with. When they have tried to assign me to the same person, same company, and I said I did not have a good experience, then they have went ahead and changed it for me and assigned me to a different person. So they made a point of correcting the issue if I did not have a good experience with a certain company. That's a good thing. There were a few shady people and the fact that I'd have to pay $100 and keep paying $100 every time for a bad service was not favorable. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield.

    A tech from Mike's Appliance looked at the dryer and he said that there was a piece that was needed. He said that it might take a week. But I didn't hear anything from them so when I called back to them in a week, the tech told me to let him call me back. Then the next thing I knew, I got an email from American Home Shield saying that they couldn't replace that part and then showed me a dryer like the one I had. I picked the General Electric one but they told me that it wouldn't be delivered 'cause it was out of stock. I asked how long was the reorder and I was told that it would probably have in stock on February 8th.

    On Monday, a delivery guy called and said that he got my dryer. He took my old machine and he was bringing in the dryer that he thought was gonna work. The dryer he brought was gas but I needed electric. He said that my paperwork said electric, but it was either somebody must have put the wrong one on the truck or that this was what they had and they got the wrong one. I asked him if he was gonna bring it back tomorrow but he doubted it. He said that he would give me a call when they found out but I didn't hear anything. So I called the logistics company and I was told that I would have to call American Home Shield and reorder it.

    When I called American Home Shield back, there was a young lady that answered the phone. I was explaining to her that the logistics company told me to call AHS because I would have to reorder. But she said that my order was due on the 8th and everything was gonna be fine. I insisted that the logistics company told me that I would have to reorder. She said that they were gonna get the piece that I needed. So she was not understanding me. So I told her the logistics company already brought me the wrong machine. I also told her that I knew that the piece was supposed to be here on the 8th but when I called the company, they told me to reorder the machine. I asked to speak to the young lady's supervisor 'cause I didn't think that she understood what I was trying to say. But she connected me to the section that orders the parts instead. It's pretty frustrating when you ask to speak to somebody else and you can't get them.

    When I got to the section that orders the parts, the lady there understood me. I told her that I called the people from the logistics company and they told me that I would have to reorder the machine but the young lady I spoke to before wouldn't let me have a supervisor. So this lady looked it up and said that they reordered the dryer for me. She couldn't give an exact date but I would have the dryer delivered to me and everything was taken care of.

    I've dealt with American Home Shield before and people have come on time. I had a refrigerator issue and they brought several people to try to fix it, and they ended up getting me a new refrigerator. The guy came, put it right in, and explained how to use it. Then they got me the tech from Mike's Appliance to come over right away.

    It's hard to get through to American Home Shield. I would like to be able to talk to someone easier and faster. Usually, I'm on hold for a long time. I would also like them to have more options, so I am not stuck with a company that takes two weeks to come out, and then tells us that they may not have time to deal with the multiple issues that are going on. At some point, they said that they were busy and the request may not have been a priority. Overall, American Home Shield is good. Recently, I was disappointed, but it ended well as I believe that everything got resolved.

    The contractor reset the garage door but they couldn't find what was causing the issue. So I recently went back to the manufacturer and we're trying to see if there's something that we can figure out. This tends to be happening more and more with American Home Shield where nothing's covered. It was never like this in their commercials. In their commercial, they show like the faucet going crazy. But they don't cover faucet. They told me they don't cover the hardware, so I'd have to buy my own. So it's false advertising. It would have been cheaper for me to go to Home Depot and get their plumber to come out. It's kind of happening more and more, which has been a little disappointing.

    I have a second property that I just purchased and got the home warranty from American Home Shield. I have to get back to them with it because I was sold coverage with items that weren't covered when I called for service. So when it comes down to them covering it, they know exactly to the infinite piece, do they do it or not. Yet, when you're buying the plan and when you're calling for service, you're kind of paying and hoping for the best. So there's that big gap between their actual knowledge of whether they're going to pay or not, and you paying to have somebody come. It would be better if they just say, "We don't cover that." Also, they don't refund since it wasn't covered.

    Our most recent claim was for our microwave. The first service people who came out showed up 45 minutes early to their time window and they left before anyone could get there. We tried calling them and so did American Home Shield but and the service people never answered or showed back up again. We ended up having to wait over a month for another company to come out there. The second people who came out were good and they recommended to American Home Shield that we needed to get a new microwave. We received one a week later.

    I have American Home Shield for the sheer good feeling that I’m covered by the insurance. From an overall standpoint, I appreciate that. But I can’t stand the waiting. I get that the people on the other end of the phone deal with people's problems all day so my problem is just another problem. I also don't like that the contracts change without any notice. I get my annual's up but the deductible continues to change. Their website is not the best to explain their pricing structure. They probably do that on purpose so they can change the fee and it can be whatever it wants to be.

    I’ve gone to the American Home Shield website to see if I can buy a different plan or if I can buy one with a different deductible. This past time, my rate went up almost 10 bucks. I got no notice other than “Here’s your new contract.” Other companies like Netflix and Hulu would say, “Just to let you know, our prices are going up. 10% or 20%.” American Home Shield charges my credit card so it's a charge that I never really see and feel.

    Also, I've had some issues and I find out that they are not covered. It's on the fine print. Those issues aside, American Home Shield has its moments. I had a plumbing issue and the contractor did a good job. I had four issues on there and they resolved two of them. Despite that, they fixed what I really wanted out of the thing. The people who came out did what they had to do.

    There were three of two sockets and the ceiling light in my bedroom that went out and wouldn't come back on. The gentleman came out. He asked a bunch of questions and looked at the circuit box. Then he fixed the problem. He was here all of about half an hour. But he took care of everything, and it's on. The majority of my calls to American Home Shield have been about my furnace. During the same week as I sent the electric claim, I also had a claim for the furnace. The gentleman came out, tried to fix it, but was unable to. So he had to submit a claim. The claim was denied. He had to order a piece. The heat is still not on in the house. But they gave me a tracking number. Hopefully, it'll be in the next few days.

    For small things like the electric claim, American Home Shield is fine. But my experience with my furnace hasn't been very good. If you look at my account, you will see that they've been called every year to come out since I bought the house. It's a little frustrating because I do understand that if the appliance is not fixable, it should be replaced. But it seems that a band-aid keeps being put on it, which is not exactly what I bought the warranty for.

    It’s a challenge getting through to people when submitting claims to American Home Shield. But there was one claim that was closed. There’s one claim that I'm doing an appliance replacement. Those went very well. But those were separate from two other claims. I'm waiting on parts. There are four appliances. One was replaced and I'm getting money in lieu of replacing something on the other one. As far as the contractors, Supreme was great. Prior to Supreme, I got a couple issues. But it’s been mixed overall. It’s been better than years in the past.

    The turntable in our microwave stopped turning and it wasn’t heating evenly. I placed a request online for service. Once it went through the American Home Shield system, I got a text and an email saying I can expect a phone call from Valleywide for service. But I didn't wait for them to call me, so I called them and scheduled the service. I was able to get on their schedule. They came and did the evaluation. They ordered the part, which took them a week and a couple days to get it in. Then they came out last Saturday and repaired our microwave.

    The techs are always very friendly and polite. But my claim before the microwave was painful. It was our ice maker in our refrigerator. It took the contractor about two months and four visits to get it all figured out. They came out the first time for an evaluation, and then they ordered the parts. They came back and put the parts in. If the parts didn't work, then they have to order more parts.

    We’ve been with American Home Shield for a couple years now, and we've had okay experiences, good experiences, and then really crappy experiences. They are responsive because when I can get ahold of somebody and I can talk to somebody, stuff gets taken care of. Then when you place a service request online, you get the text message and the emails pretty quick. But their customer service people don't speak great English. I called customer service for the icemaker and the lady I was speaking with was from somewhere in the Middle East and she didn't understand half of what I was saying.

    The toilet in the upstairs bathroom was a really slow flush, and sometimes it completely clogged up and you could not flush it at all. The contractor's communication was actually very good. I got a call and I got a text message from them, too. Then the day of, I got another text message confirming that they were coming. I dropped my kids off and I was expecting them to come in a little later. They were actually a little ahead of schedule, which was great for me because it worked out perfectly. When I got to the house, they were already there. They went in and did what they needed to do. The technician did a great job and he explained what happened and what he did, and was in and out. He was very efficient and he didn't interrupt my day much at all. It was a pretty good experience. Everything's working as it should be. I've already recommended American Home Shield to several people.

    Called American Home Shield on Nov 13 for a broken Ice Machine. They assigned Daryl's Appl to do the repair. He sent out a repairman who said it needed a grid and Daryl would order the part. Since then I have not been able to get in touch with Daryl's Appl and American Home Shield can not get in touch Daryl's either when they I call him. American Home Shield will not let me talk to anyone to tell my problem to. If they are the best you need to check them out.

    No Notifications to the customer when the contract becomes active and monthly payment extractions. You will lose your money if you forget to cancel on time and if you call them, you can hear music forever. If you are lucky, You will get an agent to cancel your contract and they will charge an Administrative fee for the cancellation.

    This is my first review for anything, and I am writing so that at least some of the future customers will get a sense of what they are signing up for. I am writing this with utmost frustration and disappointment with the service I received from American Home Shield. I am an AHS customer for many years, and they rejected my first request more than a year ago for an issue with my dishwasher indicating that damage caused due to the age of the dishwasher is not covered, but I still kept my contract with AHS. In the last week of December 2020, I put a service request for a faucet repair and water leak in the kitchen. A contractor was assigned, and he came the next day, and after inspection said that the damaged part must be replaced. He placed an order for replacement, and I got the part after 2 weeks (no expedited shipment).

    The contractor came back on January 12th and this time told that they got the wrong parts. He said that he is going to re-order the whole faucet to fix the damage. Since I did not get any status update after 10 days, I called the contractor multiple times many days, left messages, no response at all. I called AHS and they said that they will follow up and will take care in the next few days.

    Since I didn’t hear anything again for the next few days, I called AHS again on January 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th, and every time the customer agent says that someone is going to reach out by end of the day to resolve this situation ASAP. I have been telling them that water is leaking from the damaged pipe for more than a month, but I got a ton of free apologies from all the agents, but no resolution of the issue. I directly called the company that’s supposed to send the faucet part and they said that they cannot see any new order. I was told by AHS that faucet part has been ordered by the contractor and the issue will be resolved very soon, but the contractor has not even placed an order for the damaged product.

    After finally realizing that these guys are bluffing through their mouth, I requested AHS on Jan 29th to give me an authorization so that I can get the work done externally. When I called yesterday, they told that they cannot give cash out because there is no diagnosis report from the customer. Fed up with all the callousness, I asked them to cancel my account after more than a month of follow up, I will take the loss and fix my own. The whole purpose of having an insurance is to get things done through qualified contractors in a timely manner, but do not expect that you will get that from AHS. Please do your research before signing up a contract with AHS, there are number of other companies with better reviews and ratings. I cancelled my service with AHS, shame on me for allowing them to take advantage of me this long……

    With us not knowing everything that would come with buying a not brand-new house, AHS has helped us out with little things that we needed fixed. The online claim is super easy to make. Before, we had been calling in and we had been put on hold for hours. It’s nice to be able to make a claim online. That takes a couple minutes. We recently did our claim over the weekend so we expected not to be contacted till Monday. The contractor did contact us right away on Monday.     I couldn't be happier with American Home Shield's service. I use it for rental properties. The $50 a month is paid by the rent, and you don't have to worry about an HVAC. But there's been a few times that AHS did not provid the expected service. One was a garage door and they said that it wasn't under the warranty. I disagreed. It should have been but there was some gray area and instead of erring on the side of the consumer, they just refused to fix it.

    SKI Electronics came out, ordered the part, and then came back and did the repair. But I'm still waiting to hear from the plumbers. All they had to do was put a speaking in and they couldn't bring these stuff with them, or go to Home Depot and come right back with the part. That was what all my other people do. But this guy just left and I haven't seen him. He didn't look that good and he didn't impress me at all. The problem is with the screw-on one on our copper pipe. So when I go and turn the water on the shower, it shoots right at me. I sit in an assistant chair in the shower. So the thing comes right off at your groin. I showed it to the guy and he came back with a brand new piece to put on. But I didn't want that. I wanted it welded and sweating on the right way. I haven't heard anything from anybody for a week and a half now.

    The contractors that American Home Shield send out do not call ahead to say who their guy is. But a while back in the beginning, one contractor told me who was coming. Everybody should be doing that because what if somebody overheard that I made a call and next thing I know, a guy shows up in three days saying that and he's in my house but I don't even know who he is.

    The first claim I put in was for a water heater. The guy came and told me all this will be taken care of. Then he left and told American Home Shield that it was some kind of an existing problem. So I had somebody else come but I paid for it myself. It was $1800 and the guy looked at it and said, "I work for Home Shield, and we would've claimed this with no problem." He said it was a normal repair. I didn't know that I could put in a second request to have somebody come out. American Home Shield never told me that after I already bought it and paid for it myself. So I'm not happy with them. I'm just letting the year run out, and I'm never going to use them again. Also, talking to the people from India was impossible. They wouldn't shut up and they just kept reading the rules off of a piece of paper. I was just trying to find out how can I get somebody else to come and reevaluate the water heater.

    We had a toilet that was leaking at the base. I thought I’d fixed it and then my wife informed me that I hadn't. We almost forgot that we had the home warranty.     JC Electric came out Monday. They checked the plug and they said the plug was blown out behind the refrigerator. This was where my stove was plugged in. They fixed it and I was happy because I got to cook again. Everything has been working since then. They were great.     The contractor was great, but the refrigerator was still leaking. So, they came out about three different times and they tried a number of different things to try to fix the problem. There was something wrong with the light in the condensation thing at the top of the fridge and they came to fix it twice.     AHS had already sent somebody last November for my dishwasher. So when the techs came, they said there was nothing wrong with it other than the fact that I needed to have hotter water in my house. I called AHS again to say that the issue isn't because of hot water as I have hot water in my house. Their hold time was horrendous. When I got through to this lady, I thought it was gonna be a drag but she was really nice. I was on the phone with her for a minute and a half. She then said that she has someone set up and they're going to be contacting me.

    Air Kool came and the tech looked at the dishwasher. He talked to me and he was very professional. It seemed that he knew what he was doing. He said that the office would be getting back to us.     I called American Home Shield and made the claim through the automated phone system. It was for the refrigerator and freezer. It's a side-by-side. A tech from the appliance company that was picked for the service gave me a call a couple of hours later then scheduled a time to come and make the repair. This recent experience with our refrigerator was pretty good because the repairman was able to come out later that evening and assess what the problem was. That was a Friday and he had gotten the part on Monday. He was able to make the repair by Tuesday. This claim moved rather quickly.

    Unfortunately, last year the air conditioning unit went out in July and we had to wait three weeks. This home warranty policy is my grandmother's and I called the claim on behalf of her because she can't hear well on the phone. My grandmother was without air conditioning for three weeks in the hottest month of the year before she could get her unit fixed. We were pretty upset about that. I kept calling back and I was told that was the earliest appointment they could get.

    I had other times where I called American Home Shield and it wasn't as great as the recent claim with the refrigerator because it was not cut and dry about what they would cover and not cover. I called about our bathtub and our garage door. They kept saying over the phone that they couldn't guarantee that those were covered under the warranty so I would be responsible for the call-out if it wasn't. That made me hesitant to make the claim because I didn't want to be out of a call-out fee and not be covered.

    American Home Shield could definitely make their coverages clearer to regular people. When you sign the contract, there are10 pages with lots of legal jargon that are not easy for me. For example, the rep kept saying the garage door is not covered but the garage door opener is covered. I don't know what it is because I just know that I'm pushing the button and my door won't go up. I don't know if it's because the door itself isn't messed up. The rep was saying there's a spring in the box and there's a spring that connects the box to the door. The one that connects the box to the door is not covered but the one that's inside the box, they cover.

    I got really frustrated and I just called a garage door repairman directly to come out because he has a $150 fee, regardless of which one it was and he would fix it based on either one. I didn't want to be out the American Home Shield service fee then wait for someone to come out to find out that it was the thing that they didn't cover then I still have to pay again. That also happened with an issue in my bathtub. They said they wouldn't cover if it was a specific type of leak versus something in the pipe versus something in the faucet. We went around and around with them for about 20 minutes trying to determine the cause of the leak. I didn't know what was causing it because I'm not a plumber. We would have to get someone out to determine where it was before we determine if it would be covered or not. That was frustrating as well.

    I've never used a home warranty place before, but our Realtor suggested it because we were leasing and thought that would be easier. We had a couple of claims for the air conditioning unit and we got somebody out there calling and making an appointment right away. Even one time when it needed a part, it was quick. We had a little couple of mishaps, like the one that we thought was all connected was three different ones. When they came out the first time, they fixed one that we thought was working. We then had to have them come out again, and we paid another $100. We thought the unit was working. I had a really good experience with American Home Shield until the oven. Nobody called me after they came out and they needed a part.

    I had to keep calling and calling and then I found out that they were trying to find the part. That went on for over two weeks, which is crazy to me. I've had homes and home repairs, and you either know that you can get it or you don't get it. It doesn't take that long. We then found out that they couldn't get it, so then it took a week to find out what they were going to offer in terms of a replacement. They offered a replacement, but then we were told they couldn't get it for three months. Now I understand that that's part because of COVID, but we can't not have an oven for three months. That's crazy.

    I had different people say different things too. Someone would say they're still looking for the part and then someone would say they're not looking for the part, they're going to give me a replacement. Someone else would say I have to wait until they see what they offer me and then I get the offer. I click on “I want the replacement,” and then it says that it's not available. The only thing that's available is the money that they're offering, which isn't enough to get a new one. It also shouldn't take over three weeks to find out that I need to search on my own and find a new one. It was irritating. I don't blame the people in the office giving the information, but I asked several different times for a manager to call me starting a week ago.

    I called Monday and asked to speak to a manager, and Tuesday to ask to speak to a manager. The whole story didn't make sense in terms of the length of time and everything else. Finally, a manager called, but it shouldn't take that long. I also didn't know that that the stock everywhere for any kind of oven is hard to find. I went out to Best Buy and found four ovens that would be perfect, all to find out that none of them were available. They said it would be three or more months. Once I started shopping, then I understood what American Home Shield was up against. I just wish someone let me know.

    I had a gas heater that the pilot light wouldn't stay on and when I submitted the claim to American Home Shield, I thought they were gonna get ahold of the people. But after three days, I got back to the rep and then I had to get ahold of the guy. He said he didn't work on them and he said he would get back to me but he didn’t. So, I called AHS again and they sent another guy who came out and fixed it. He was good. There was a little trouble in the beginning to get the problem fixed and it took two weeks but the weather wasn’t bad so it wasn’t any big deal.

    American Home Shield sent Exclusive Appliance Repair for a refrigerator. The technician took care of everything. Doing the claim was pretty easy. The ice maker is out now. I called in a claim but AHS is sending two different technicians out, which I don't understand why they don't use the same company. As far as their customer service team, sometimes, I feel like I'm talking to the wall. I try to explain to them there are two different technicians out here. One messed up the fridge, and then the other one fixed it. Now, they're sending the person that messed up my fridge to fix the freezer. So, I might end up needing the other company to come back and fix it because they didn't know how to fix the fridge.

    I'm not sure if it's the technicians that needed a little bit more education, or if they need to be a little bit more open-minded to customers. But I tried to explain that to AHS. But they kept going around it. They're like, “Well, you already have a contract with them.” I told them, “I understand that. But one company keeps messing up my fridge and the other company has to come fix it.” I was without a fridge for two months. No one reached out and said, “Hey, like, the part's here.” There was nothing until after the holidays. It was a mess. It was about two months that I was without an appliance. But once they fixed the fridge, I was happy.

    My experience with the vendor that came out, Mr. Rooter, was good. When the agent that I spoke with gave me the original provider who would be doing the service, I was at my computer so I googled them real quick and they had a one star. I didn't want that because when I looked at the ratings from that particular provider, they were recent and the complaints were things that I didn't want to deal with. I told the agent to find me someone else. She found someone else but it was the same thing. They had a bad review. The third time was Mr. Rooter and their reviews were better. By that same day, they called me to schedule someone to come out. They came out a day or so afterwards, looked at the problem, told me the diagnosis and gave me the quote which would have been out-of-pocket because I did have some out-of-pocket cost. A few days after that, they replaced my water heater. AHS did a good job.

    I've been with American Home Shield for a very long time. In my previous house, I had American Home Shield as well. I had a hard time with them in the past but for the most part, the experience has been good. The deductible for every call could be a little bit lower considering the high fee you pay every month.     The ice machine was not working, so National Platinum came to have it fixed. I called American Home Shield. They gave me the company's phone number and everything. The service the contractor provided was great. In the beginning, they said they would send somebody to come around and have a look at the refrigerator, and then buy the parts and all that. But later on, they said they would send somebody straight away to come and have it fixed. So, the person came and fixed it. And in fact now, it’s still working all right. I've been with AHS for a long time and I will recommend them to any of my friends. I will tell them that AHS is excellent. I even recommended them to a coworker of mine. He had his AC break down and I said, “Why don't you get in touch with American Home Shield?” I gave their number for him to contact them, and then sign up if possible with them.

    There was a leak at the valve thing in the bathroom where the water flows into the tank on the toilet. And my toilet was rocking. I contacted the contractor through my app online. It was very easy. It told me that they would contact me within 24 hours. If they hadn't, American Home Shield gave me the name and the number that I could call them myself. The techs contacted me that day. They hooked the valve up, put a new ring down, secured it, and fixed the leak. They were very professional and polite. They did a great job. It helped a lot because when the valve was leaking, it left a stain on my ceiling downstairs. So now, I got to get that fixed. But it stopped the leak. Now, I’m secured when I go to the bathroom because the toilet is not rocking. I love American Home Shield. I'm so glad my daughter-in-law told me about them.

    Submitting claims is easy to do, but the hold time is hard on the phone. It's very long. The policies are also changing and I don't get any updates when they change the policies on what's covered, what's not covered, or what they're willing to do. American Home Shield requested Doctor Cool for my water heater and the repair guy was nice. The problem is I did some research on the unit that was there, and the one that he wanted to put in. They sell the same unit and everybody said it used to be a good brand, but they went downhill. I checked with a couple of other plumbers. They said, “We won't put these in. They're good for maybe six months to a year and then they break.” Doctor Cool said, “That's what's covered. That's all we can replace.”

    American Home Shield would not do anything and they couldn't give me a new one. It was not a good thing. The Doctor Cool guy was going to charge me $650 too. I'm not going to spend 650 now and then another 650 the next year to have the same problem put back in. I went and bought a new one myself and went with another company that I'm using now in all my plumbing. The plumber put in the one I wanted, and his labor costs 300 bucks. That's a big difference.

    At another time, I had my microwave, my hot water heater and my water softener go out all in the same month. I got a new microwave, but they brought me a GE Profile, which took forever. They said they had some in the warehouse. The GE Profile is not bad, but it's really small compared to the model I had. Now I have holes in my woodwork around it. I thought, “That looks tacky. Somebody's going to really see that if you ever tried to sell your house.” The guy put a cover on the front of the microwave, but it doesn't cover up the screw marks, so I have to get wood putty to put in this wood.

    I have a $2 million home, so I have top-of-the-line products here. AHS needs to put in what products they don't carry or support. If it's a contractor or if it's AHS that doesn't support JennAir products, then I need to find something else because that's all this house is full of. I was going to have American Home Shield for my house in Park City, but I have JennAir up there too. At this point, I'm not sure I want to go that route.

    My bathtub was clogged and because of the clog, the water filled up. When the water filled up, it went into the overflow drain, but there was a leak in the overflow drain that leaked down into my kitchen. Another part of the problem was that the faucet, instead of it all going up into the shower when the shower was turned on, it was flowing through the bathtub faucet. So, it was running the bathtub and it filled the bathtub up all the way. Then the overflow drain leaked down into the kitchen. It was a fun situation.

    I did the claim to American Home Shield online. The website was really simple. It was straightforward questions like click this button and it was done. I was told almost within moments of who was gonna be my contractor. I was sent a text message that said that they would contact me within 24 hours or I could go ahead and reach out to them. They actually called me, the plumbing company, within like a half an hour. The tech unclogged the drain, and then he took the faucet apart. There was a couple components that he replaced in there. Then he had to get to the pipes, which he had to put a hole in the wall to get to the overflow drain pipe, which the gasket was loose or something on there. He caulked around all the seams of the overflow drain and the faucet.

    I've used quite different repairs for different things, and some of them have been great, and other ones seemed like nothing was covered and so much comes out of pocket. I had a claim for the furnace. It would run for a while and then it would get really loud, and I was worried there was something wrong with it. When the contractor came, they said it's a two-stage furnace and the only reason why we hadn't heard it prior is that it wasn't as cold. So there was nothing wrong with it and it cost me $100 to find that out.

    Some of the companies that American Home Shield uses are terrible. I've had their plumber in my house multiple times for the same issue and they're not very good. They say they're gonna come on this day at this time, and they don't. There was an instance when I called the company and said that they had left poo splashed all over my bathroom, and they said, “Well, we're not a cleaning company.” Who leaves the job site like this? They're very rude to deal with.

    American Home Shield is great but in one or two situations, they didn't do a good job. The last time I called them, the service company asked me to open a ticket for changing the dishwasher pipe. They came and didn’t do anything. They were supposed to change the pipe. There was a copper pipe connected from the kitchen to the dishwasher. The guy said, “We will not do repair until you change the copper pipe to the flexible pipe.” So then I called AHS. I opened a ticket, I called the plumbing folks and said, “You have to change the pipe.” They went here. They didn't change any pipe. I had to call somebody else from outside to change the pipe, so then the dishwasher people can come do the dishwashing part. I am still not understanding if there was no dishwasher, then there was no pipe at all anyway. So when you are coming for the dishwasher, you have to take care of everything.

    I ended up paying double money, and then they didn't do much at all. This was really bad experience, but it was not American Home Shield. That was because of the plumbing folks and the appliances guys. They were really terrible. It is my rental place, so my renters don't touch anything about the electrical thing. That case was not handled better by AHS.

    I called and submitted a request to have my ductwork underneath my house checked out for my heater. The heater was not heating up the house the way it should. But the first contractor they sent out was a joke. I would not recommend them for anything. Econo Air came out here and went underneath my house. They said they checked all the vents and couldn't find any problems with it when they didn't. Because as soon as I lifted up one of my register covers, there's a big hole in my air conditioning ductwork.

    I called Econo Air and told them that their guys didn't do what they were supposed to do and to send them back out. They called the American Home Shield and requested that another company be sent out here because they weren't gonna come out here again. American Home Shield sent out Oasis and they were great. The tech that came out checked everything. He fixed the hole and serviced my unit. He explained to me what he thought the problem was.

    This is my first time using American Home Shield. I was referred by several family members so I was excited to be able to use it. When I called and made an appointment, I was able to make a ticket for 2 appliances for the same day which I was pleased with. However, my experience was good and bad. What was happening was my fault. When American Home Shield called to see how I was doing, I did explain that to the rep and she gave me information to call them. I did leave a message but I never heard back. But I'm still pleased to be with American Home Shield and it makes me feel that there is a little safety where if something else goes wrong, I can get assistance. I'm a single mom so that makes it comforting to know that I have someone if I need something to be done and it's immediate and a big appliance.

    I had a tub diverter failure in one of my bathrooms and two of my toilets weren't filling up. It was a simple process to submit claims to American Home Shield whether online or on my phone. Their website was straightforward. There were no issues with requesting service and getting a response with the assignment and with the US Plumbing calling to schedule.

    The contractor was very responsive in making and keeping the appointment, while at the appointment and explaining the work that was being completed. They were very thorough and professional.     We had a plumber come from J&A South Park and he did a great job. He fixed the things that were wrong. The local people have been very good. But not everybody else. What happened was we had a furnace that the furnace company shut down because of a gas leak. In the winter, we were out for 13 days without a furnace and more beyond that without a gas stove. We had a terrible experience and I had an awful time calling. I called this claim in because the issues I was having were not on the American Home Shield website. It says, "Okay. Is it your appliance? Is it this?" There are very limited options and I wanted to talk to a person.

    I kept calling and I talked to people offshore in Trinidad and Asia like in the Philippines. This happened three to four times. I was told many times they were gonna do this but nothing ever happened. They never kept their word and these people don't call you back. They put you on hold and say, "Let me check this." And you know they're doing something else and not attending to my issue because 20 minutes later, they come back on the phone. It's been a nightmare dealing with people offshore. I actually called my Realtor who sold us the home warranty and he went to his local rep for American Home Shield. That was how I got connected to somebody stateside. To call another country for somebody to come that's just 15 minutes away is crazy. I very much disapprove of that. I will be leaving American Home Shield probably after a year specifically because of it being outsourced overseas.

    The contractor was great. They helped me figure out the issue that I was having, which was more an issue with the city water pressure to my house than with my actual house. The techs maintained all the COVID safety protocols. They wore masks, and when the guys were doing work and touching things, they were wearing gloves. So, they were very professional and there were no issues with cleanliness. I lived in a house before where the owner had American Home Shield when I was a renter and I had a good experience with them, which was part of the reason why I chose them for my home when I bought one. The only thing I'm disappointed about is they don't cover the water softeners as part of the package.

    I submit the claim online and American Home Shield will send me who is responsible for the call. And then, they deduct some money out of the account for the service call, which is fine. And it's immediate. Either I call them or they call me quickly and schedule an appointment. I usually see within three to five days, depending on the emergency, so it's pretty quick. Recently, the igniter of our furnace went out. The repairmen came in with masks, made sure everybody was healthy inside, kept their distance, did their business, and left. It was very professional. It was fixed in 15 minutes. We've had American Home Shield for years, off and on. Sometimes, I shut it down because I don't need them. And then, I will usually pick them back up after a year. They've been excellent.

    I did a claim online for a water heater issue. AHS sent me a notification when my appointment was scheduled and the time frame. I did follow-up with them because I like to actually talk to a person. When the tech came out, the issue wound up being the humidifier thing that's attached to my heat was leaking. So he shut the water valve off. He called us on the car and told me that the humidifier wouldn't be something covered under my plan because it's an add-on. So he tried to transfer it to an HVAC but he did come back inside to tell me that it wasn't. So he was really good. AHS was great as well. They were quick and prompt.

    I had two different people come out. The first person that came let me know that he couldn’t fix the unit, and then American Home Shield sent somebody else. The other person said, “Well, yeah. Actually, it's got a leak somewhere that we really can’t fix it. But we can fix it.” I said, “Okay, that's fine.” By the time I reported the refrigerator was not working, it was done fast. When my friend's washer broke, she had it through Sears warranty and she was without her washer for almost 60 days. We were talking and I said, “Oh, yeah. They just replaced my refrigerator. They send me the e-check, and I went in and picked it up. I'm still waiting for my refrigerator to get delivered.” She asked what insurance I had because she paid for hers and she's still waiting. Meanwhile, my refrigerator got delivered already. I'm very satisfied with AHS. They're great.

    Accord Appliance was sent by American Home Shield to fix our dryer. It was making noise like there was something in there. When he looked at it, there was nothing in the dryer.     I was having a leak from my upstairs bathroom. The young man came out and he checked it out. It wasn't leaking when he came and my son told me that he used the plunger to unstop it and it ran through. The other man told me that it seemed like that might have been the problem 'cause it was clogged up, it overflow, and ran down.

    American Home Shield is good. The only thing I don't like is some of the subcontractors they use are subpar. They have very bad ratings. American Home Shield might need to train some of their contractors because they make them look bad. They're sending somebody out that are supposed to be representing them and they’re doing a piss-poor job. The last time, I called them out about the icemaker. A young man came out and blow dried all the ice out of my refrigerator where it had froze up in the back. He didn't tell me that the line was busted in the back. The recent one that came out pulled out the refrigerator and my back wall behind my refrigerator is messed up. If the first guy determined it was supposed to be written off, my wall probably wouldn't be as damaged as it is. I reached out and touched the wall. It was mildewed. It's all got to get cut out and replaced now.

    The young man that came the second time fixed the door handle on the old refrigerator, whereas the young man that came out in August said, "Eventually, the refrigerator is gonna have to be replaced altogether." The young man came in, tightened up the screws on the handle for the freezer and it was all good. But the refrigerator still had to go 'cause the lines had exploded. I would recommend American Home Shield to other people but I would forewarn them about that issue.

    When I first got American Home Shield, I was paying a little more. The next year, they reduced it by about $10 and I never found out why. This year, it went back up. That's a little confusing. But it's nice to have them because I can't come out of my pocket all the time with certain appliances if they go out. Recently, my baseboard heat in my dining room was not working and it took a while to get ahold of the electric company. I waited for them to call and they didn't, so I called them.

    Communicating with them was a little difficult. We initially scheduled it for one date. Then I didn't realize my job scheduled a hearing on that date, and so I have to testify via Zoom. I didn't want him to come when I'm in the middle of giving testimony, so I had to reschedule it, and it was hard getting ahold of them. I called a couple of times. The lady finally answered saying they could do that. The guy that came out was nice and told me that the dust will accumulate on the burner that is inside. If it gets too much, it would think that it will get too hot, and then it will cut off. He said I need to clean it every year. There is a reset button that I can push and then it will work.

    The light switch on our ceiling fan wasn't turning on and off and American Home Shield had the company contact me. Once they called, we set up an appointment, so it had a time and date. The company was professional and fast, and the job was done right. It all went well. I wouldn't say I'm 100% satisfied though. It was overpriced for that small job. The part was $5 and the work was a $50 job. Based on the reality of what it cost, the copayment was a little high. If I paid $50 for that month, plus a $100 copayment, I spent well over a brand new ceiling fan. I'm not sure if I want to keep doing this warranty in the future.

    I need American Home Shield because my husband passed in '18. So when it comes to appliances or a breakdown, having American Home Shield is positive for me in terms of backup. I don't have to worry about what am I going to do, who do I contact, and so forth. I also recommended AHS and several people have signed up with them through my referral over the past 20 years. Just recently, my niece purchased a house and she called me. When she wanted to know what I had, I recommended American Home Shield to her and I told her all the reasons why I'd recommend them.

    But I was hurt this year. My furnace went out and I was without heat. I submitted a claim with AHS and my experience with the contractor was fantastic. I had four contact people and all of my questions were answered. The first day that the tech came out to assess my furnace, everything went well. But it wasn't what I had anticipated. I thought I was going to have them to repair something but that was not my situation and my problem was with AHS. I couldn't talk to anyone besides their people who were in customer service. It was ridiculous and I demanded to at least speak to someone beyond customer service because I had some questions related to the amount of my payment since my furnace had to be replaced. Their policy needs to be changed. I even emailed a couple of times but I never received a phone call.

    Some years ago, when I had a situation like this, I didn't have the same problem with their customer service reps. A supervisor called me back and she followed up with me. The transition was better because my refrigerator was over 20-some years old. And when the guy came out to service it, he said I needed a compressor. So, he put the compressor in and it didn't work for a week. He had to call AHS back and told them that it was not working. He told them that my refrigerator had to be replaced and that was a lot of money to raise.

    But with my recent experience, I am so upset and very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I was also talking to people that had a dialect that was not like mine and it was hard to understand. They were very professional people but they were very limited and they were tied to what they could do. In a situation like what I was in where it took me three weeks to have my furnace replaced, I didn't appreciate that. I had to make other arrangements and it was difficult having to adjust and make new accommodations in a time like this. It also upset me not knowing that I could get the replacement sooner than I had because the company had to wait on AHS for a response, then I had to wait on them and AHS had to order the appliance that I needed.

    Then, I had to pay the majority of the fee and AHS paid less. That bothered me because I pay $75 a month for my service. Then, if something breaks down, that's another fee. And when you look at that in two years, I could almost pay for my furnace for what I paid AHS for two years. So to me, there was some disparity.

    With my recent claim, the water heater was leaking. American Home Shield sent a repair person who confirmed that he needed to replace it. He advised me that there would be parts of the repair that would not be covered by the warranty, such as code changes for my city and state since the time the original water heater was put in, and a couple of the other parts that the home warranty would not cover the replacement that had to be done at the time of replacement. He ordered the water heater and returned about two days later to do the replacement. At that time, American Home sent me an email saying to call in because they had information on what would be covered and what would be not. They confirmed those and the work was done. I paid for my part and they paid for theirs.

    Back in 2020, I had a service call for my dryer that wasn't working. At that time, American Home did not pay for the repair, but they gave me some money towards a replacement. I replaced the dryer and the washer. Now, the washer won't work. It won't drain, and so I've got a new service call in. Some of the contractors that they used have not been the highest rated, and so I'm a little worried because this contractor for the washer has a rating that is not so good on Yelp or on their webpage, that they don't respond, are not scheduled to come out until next week. It's a long wait period, which I can understand because of COVID. We'll see.

    My recommendation for American Home Shield is to really vet out the contractors they use and see if they can help bring up the ratings for those contractors by setting customer expectations. "Oh, you're not gonna get a call from this contractor for a week because they're backed up." "Well, can you find another contractor in my area that can come sooner?" That type of thing. But otherwise, dealing with American Home Shield has been fine. I've been able to get ahold of someone and talk to them, so I'm okay with that.

    I'm very displeased with my service from American Home Shield. They are less than straightforward with me about the process for going about replacing my appliance. They keep telling me "Give us 24 hours, give us 24 hours.” My first claim was in November 30th, and I still haven't gotten anything resolved from them. Since February 1st, I've called every day and I just get the runaround. It has been very disappointing.

    AHS has come out for my dryer and for my washing machine. The parts for those were available and they were able to be fixed. Recently, our hot water heater's pipes weren't getting hot. The basic service for the hot water heater was fine but the needed part was no longer available. So, AHS has to take the next step and replace my appliance. But, they are not budging and they've been putting me off for a week now. I can't get anywhere past the customer service representative who can't do anything.

    I put in a claim to American Home Shield for my refrigerator, my oven and my dishwasher. Sears set a date and an hour and a half past the due time, they called and said that they were not showing up. They took it upon themselves to reschedule a second appointment. And I accepted that appointment. For the second time, an hour and a half past the time they were supposed to be here, they called and canceled. So that is now 16 vacation hours I had to use, which is why I’m upset. AHS should never ever send Sears back to my house and they should get rid of them. I reapplied for another year with AHS but if this happens again, I will not re-up. I spend too much money. On the other hand, Rapid Appliance came out, and did the job timely and politely. They were in and out, and they were awesome.

    Our washing machine has started dropping nickel-sized chunks of rust into the laundry. It had been in the house when we bought it and it had some age. It has got some pretty severe rust around the lip of the hatch to the basket. The motor runs fine. It spins, drains, and fills. It still seems to do a fair job of cleaning. But every other load of wash, I'm picking bits of rust out of the laundry, and this stains clothing. So, I called American Home Shield and told them that about that and they sent a technician from Chesapeake Appliance out who took a look at it.

    The technician said that there was no mechanical issue. He said that to fix this, we would need to just order a new top unit where the hatch was because that was where the rust was and then he left. Not 15 minutes later, I got an email from American Home Shield that said that the claim was denied because the technician said that the issue was not normal wear and tear.

    I have spent the last week attempting to reach out to Chesapeake Appliance Repair to find out what the deal is, why the tech has written it up as not the normal wear and tear. But he never returns my phone calls. I've talked to three different people at Chesapeake Appliance Repair and I've left numerous voicemails. I've called at least six times, leaving voicemails every day, and I'm getting a response from them. So, I called American Home Shield today and they said that the tech wrote that it was not normal wear and tear. Still, I don't understand how a more-than-a-decade-old washing machine developing the rust problem is not normal wear and tear.

    American Home Shield told me that I could have another inspector come and look at it. So, they made an appointment for someone from Sears to come tomorrow. I'm hoping that they will find that this is not unusual and this is not the result of any abuse on our part. We've done nothing to cause this rust problem. But it's a problem, and it makes the washing machine unusable.

    We've only called American Home Shield twice. Once for a dishwasher, which failed to operate, and another one for the washing machine. Both times, it has been like pulling teeth to get the repairs done. It shouldn't be this hard. The problem appears to be Chesapeake Home Appliance because both times, they've been involved and their response is lackadaisical. They're non-responsive to their customers. They don't adequately explain what their report is going to show. They don't give copies of the reports to the customers. They're completely unacceptable. The fact that they're not contractually bound to the homeowners that they're servicing is probably the problem. But they are not a good company. Ultimately, the dishwasher was fixed. It is my hope that ultimately, the washing machine will be fixed.

    Our furnace was blowing out fire. We made a claim and that was okay. It was just frustrating because I've been having problems over the years with the whole HVAC system. People kept coming out and putting a band-aid to fix the problem for a particular time. But the unit just kept messing up. Once my house started smelling like it was gonna blow up, American Home Shield decided to replace my furnace. Right now, it’s important for me to fix this furnace because of the cold outside. Somebody came and they looked at what was going on. They said they'd never seen anything like it. The technicians replaced the furnace and they did a good job of coming in. My only thing with American Home Shield is I know that they are trying to fix the unit but if the part or whatever's going on with it keeps on malfunctioning, at what point do they say that it's a bigger problem?

    One of our refrigerators quit cooling. The contractor came out and even though they been out here the day before, they said they make special trip out. So they did. I was pretty happy with the tech showing up. But then it seemed like it took a little bit long to get the parts. They got the parts after about 10 days and then they came back out and installed it. So far, everything’s great. It was pretty simple to submit the claim. I just gave Home Shield a call and they took the information.

    We have a Samsung refrigerator freezer and the ice maker quit working. The contractor came out and fixed it the first time. But then a month later it quit working again. Home Shield called us and said that there was a manufacturer's recall on it so they couldn't fix it again. The claim is still open, as far as the refrigerator and Samsung. But Home Shield had good reason to not fix it because they can’t keep fixing them forever and it's going to keep breaking because the product is invalid. So overall, we’re pretty happy with Home Shield.

    Prime Plumbing recently came out and had a look. They couldn't resolve the issue, but they certainly gave me some tips. American Home Shield was very easy to deal with. The times where I've used them in the past, and even this time, I contact them, I've got an issue, and then, within 30 minutes, I've got a response from the company that's going to come out and look at the issue. I'm very happy. However, everything else I've ever called them out for, it's $75 to come and fix the issue. For the plumbing, it was $75 for five minutes, which was fine with me. But to be more appealing, a lower price would be better, like $50 or $60.

    The technician had to come back for the appliance repair because he didn’t have a part and the mail took a little longer. But he came in and took care of the issue, and he was out the door. He explained what was going. He was very professional, clean and nice and he had a mask. I couldn't be happier with my experience. Last summer, we had our air conditioning serviced. The only problem we had was that we had to pay about $1,000. But it was expected because we were told that the only thing that was not covered was Freon and it was pretty much empty.

    Our dishwasher had an indication that there was a leak. I live in a condo, so we can't have a leaky dishwasher. I went on to American Home Shield's website to file a claim. There was no problem. I was told to expect the contractors out between 24 and 48 hours. DMV Pro came out and they were excellent. The tech made sure of whatever problems there were and fixed it. So, he was really good and very quick. He was really thorough, took his time and explained a lot of stuff.

    This experience was very good but we did have some negative experiences when we were in the townhouse. Our townhouse was four floors, and the air conditioning was a split unit where one unit took care of the first floor and the basement, and the other one took care of the bedroom floor and the fourth floor. We had problems and the repair people kept coming out and fixing it, but there was a part that just had to be replaced. We were without air conditioning in the middle of summer for six weeks.

    My mother is in a wheelchair. She can't go down to another floor to sleep. We had a stairlift going from the main floor to the bedroom floor, and on the main floor you'd go two stairs to even use the bathroom. So, for her, it's not really ideal. Trying to get that resolved was really hard. That was a really tough experience. Air conditioning is a lot harder than a dishwasher. The contractor was saying, "Well, this is like on the bottom of our list because we're going to take care of the people who are not on a Home Shield plan first." That made it a lot worse. I was just trying to get anybody to listen. So, it was kind of tough.

    I usually go to the webpage to submit claims. I've had to call as well. Because sometimes, when the contractors set up an appointment, it's a couple of days out. And sometimes, I need the service right away. One of the challenges is that sometimes, the people that American Home Shield contract with are smaller businesses and they are really busy. So, it's hard for them to make it out the same day or the next. But for the most part, I've usually had good service.

    I had a service personnel. It might have been my dishwasher. And then, less than 30 days later, it broke again. AHS was really good about covering it, not arguing with me about it. It was good. They came early, which I was super happy because my kitchen sink was plugged. I submitted the claim on a Sunday. I got a text message first thing in the morning on Monday from Whitney Holdings that they would be out between 2:00 and 6:00 in the afternoon. And then, I got an updated message around 11:00 that said they were on their way to my house. And the next thing I knew, they were on my driveway.

    They just happened to be in the area, so they thought they would stop in and see if I was here, so I was very pleased. And I was very pleased that they kept me so up-to-date as well with the text messages. The other thing that I’d recommend Whitney on was the serviceman had a mask on when he came up to my door. I've had other service people that have come out. And when I open the door wearing a mask, they were like, “Oh, do you want me to wear a mask?” “Heck, yes. We're in the middle of a pandemic. Please.”

    I had one issue where AHS double-billed me. It took me a while to get that fixed, but they fixed it. I liked American Home Shield's service. I just wish they were less expensive. They have raised their prices since I started. For the package I have, the price is 70-ish a month. And then, anytime I have a contractor out, it's $75 just for that. That doesn't sound bad, but it really adds up. But I would still recommend AHS.

    What the tech replaced was the motherboard in the refrigerator. He had to order it. It took a week to get in. And then, another week for him to come back to fit it in. And then, another week because it still wasn't working. When he put the motherboard in, he told me it would fix it within 24 hours. It didn't. And it took him another week to come back. He finally got it fixed by Thursday. He was professional.

    The process was good. I understand you got to order parts. And I understand, with the COVID right now, that it takes time for parts. But when the refrigerator first went down, I lost most of the food out of it. And then, when the tech told me it was fixed, we went to the grocery store that night. Again, we lost our food due to that. So, we've lost our food twice towards it. American Home Shield said that they don't take care of any type of spoilage, which I thought when I first signed up, they told me that they did take care of a certain amount of it. But I had a warranty on it before through the Lowe's when I first purchased it. And it definitely had where if anything spoiled inside of the refrigerator, you would get an amount back for that. That's the only thing that's disappointing is that I was sure that the woman, when I signed up, said that you got so much per pound, which was $1 or whatever. But they said that wasn't true.

    With American Home Shield, it's easy access to get the assistance that you need that you pay for. I've had three issues that I've had to use them for. One was for my air conditioning unit and that guy was very thorough and professional. The second one was a plumbing issue. The hot water wasn't getting in the hallway shower. The plumber came in and said he couldn't do anything. He said he had to cut a big old hole in there and that American Home Shield wouldn't pay to repair it when all he had to do was tighten up a screw. He left and didn't fix anything. I was very unhappy because I still had to pay the $87 for him to come out and tell me there was nothing he could do. That was Williams Plumbing. They couldn't fix my jetted tub which is covered under my American Home Shield policy. The third plumber that came out from David's Plumbing fixed it for us. He explained everything, did an excellent job and was very professional.

    Biannually, we get our heater cleaned and have maintenance done. While doing so, the guy said, "Oh, it looks like this needs to be replaced here. And you have potential combustion that could start fire." I said, "We have homeowners insurance. So let me call them out." I called American Home Shield and when the guy they brought in came out, he said, "You need to replace this piece here. And this isn't covered by your insurance either. But I think it won't combust." He couldn't confirm it though. When I called the insurance back, I said, "I don't feel very comfortable by starting this heater. I have two kids." I also asked him to look at specific things that the maintenance guy said. One was the blower, and he didn't even look at it.

    I was standing right there and I even gave him the document that the maintenance guy mentioned. The guy said, "Well, let me get out a second opinion, and you'll only pay if he says the same thing that the first guy said." I said okay. The second gentleman who came out was from Kravets. I showed him the maintenance thing and he looked at it and he said, “Everything is completely fine.” He didn't mention anything that the first guy said and he explained certain things. He said, "Well, they're trying to sell you to go with them and get additional parts." He said, "But to even give you that extra confidence that what I'm saying is true, have the gas company come out. They come out for free." The gas company said, "Yeah, I agree with the Kravets guy."

    The Kravets guy was very professional and easy to understand. He triple checked everything. He went through everything that I asked him to do and beyond and made me feel very comfortable. I absolutely loved him. He didn't try to sell me on any extra whatever too. It was definitely 100 points better than the first guy. What's really nice is the technicians don't argue the point. It’s like, "Let me get you something." especially my second call, I was feeling very uneasy with the technicians who came out. He says, "No problem. Let's just bring another guy out" and explained the whole situation. That made me feel good.

    On the other hand, we had this company in our cabin, and it was a whole ordeal to get people out there. Maybe it's just a hard place to get to. It might have been sparse with companies to come out. That's why it took so long and even to pay that 'cause they couldn't find someone. We had to pay someone and then to get reimbursed, it took two months. I don't think we have American Home Shield for the cabin anymore, but we continued to have it here at the house.

    Our heater went out. My husband noticed that as soon as he woke up. He called American Home Shield, and they sent somebody out immediately. The tech came out maybe two hours later and fixed it. Myers was wonderful and very nice. At the very end, a different guy came up to the door and said that he just wanted to come talk to us himself because the other guy was new and he was still in training.     The icemaker quit working and the repairman came out and checked it out. The stepson of my husband lived here before and they had insects. Even though we got rid of the insects, they destroyed the computer board and that caused the icemaker to quit working. The repairman said that Home Shield would not cover it and I understood that. I appreciated him for being honest about it and he said I needed to put a new computer board in, but it would cost almost as much as a new refrigerator because it is a big side-by-side. If we were gonna have to pay for that out of our pocket, we might as well just get a new refrigerator, so that's what we're going to do. But it's a shame that Home Shield couldn't at least help us with the cost towards a new refrigerator.

    The furnace wasn’t staying lit to automatically come on when the temperature gets a certain temperature in the house. So, I would have to constantly go downstairs, check the furnace, and then press the button to make sure the furnace would come on. It wasn't constantly coming on and then, it would come on, and then go off. So, basically, the area in order to keep the furnace lit was broken.

    When the first company came out, they only replaced a coil. So, the issue was never really applied. I called them back. They came out. They added some wires into the side so my button could work for my furnace to come on, and then told us to just use a screwdriver if it happens again. I wasn't satisfied with the first company's service. American Home Shield referred to another company. I contacted that company and they came out. The technician told me what the issue was. Once it got approved, he came out and solved the issue. It took three attempts to repair the furnace. But I've been having heat since then. The technician was wonderful and I would recommend him again.

    In the past, I sent in my claim over the phone, but this time, I did my microwave claim online. The online process was pretty good. It saved me some time. The service provider had to come out three times. But I don't hold them at fault for it because it was difficult to try to figure things out. When they left the first time, they thought it was fixed. So the claim was closed out. It wasn't intuitive to try to reopen a closed claim. But once I finally figured it out, it was easy. On the third visit, they said it was beyond repair and they would let American Home Shield know, and then they would be in touch with me. So I'm still waiting for American Home Shield and tell me what options I have to get a new microwave.

    We have a clothes washer and a dryer and one of them went bad. But American Home Shield's options to replace it were nowhere near the kind that we had. They didn't even care if it was the same color. But as far as responsiveness in getting out and trying to get stuff done, it was pretty good. The last one was even worse on my air conditioner. They ended up paying me $300 and it was gonna cost a couple 1,000 to get it fixed with their provider. But I found somebody else that did it for a little bit less. Regardless, the amount that they wanted to pay versus what it was really gonna cost wasn't even close.

    I had a hard time with the first claim with the washer. It really disgusted me and I was about to drop AHS because it took about four months just to get one and I didn't know what the problem was. But I had to really make a bunch of phone calls. Then it took the longest for them to tell me what they were offering for the machine. I told them to just send me a check and let me get my machine. I talked to so many people.

    Now, my dryer was giving cold air and PJ Appliances was dispatched out. The gentleman told me that it was a fuse, and I paid $75 for that. He flipped it over, went in the back, went back to the truck, came back, he turned it on, and it got warm. But then he told me that I would be having the same problem again, which I do have now. But I can’t pay them another $75 for the same problem. He also said there was something in the vent and I would have to get it cleaned out. If I use it, I would have the same problem again. He could’ve just pulled that out, but he said that AHS won't cover that. So, I hadn't washed in a while. Then I just did some undergarments washed. It turned. When I went to take it out, when it stopped, it was cold.

    I would like to see AHS move a little faster because I could hardly get anybody on the phone and I had to wait hours. One time, I charged up my phone, and that phone sat for almost three hours, and it was two hours and 45 minutes before getting the battery on. I just didn't wanna hang up ‘cause I kept calling and couldn't get anybody. I said I won't charge the phone. I’d just let it sit.

    My furnace was not working. I put the call in to American Home Shield on Sunday morning, and within an hour, someone had called me. The tech said he was in the vicinity on a Sunday morning when the temperature was freezing. He came by within 15 minutes of the phone call. The issue was the igniter on the furnace. It needed to be replaced. He replaced it, and a few hours after I had made the claim, it was fixed. We had heat again. I was super pleased. The service was excellent. The tech was great, very prompt and knew his business. It was probably the best service call I've gotten from American Home Shield. Sometimes, service is slow, but they eventually get it done.

    The service is excellent, except when I get stuck with a bad service provider. Once in a while, the guy who shows up doesn't want to do the job and creates excuses. I'm not a kid and I know that he's making excuses, but many times when American Home Shield reassigns to another firm, the issue is solved in a day. It has happened with me. Recently, there were two issues I needed fixed. My kitchen faucet wasn't working, and then the Insta-Hot wasn't working. One guy came and replaced the kitchen faucet. Two weeks later, another guy from the same company came to do the Insta-Hot. I told him the faucet doesn't retract back into place and he looked at it and said that the previous guy who came was too lazy.

    The previous guy didn't use the weight that came in the new faucet pack. He used the old weight, which did not work with the new pack. He messed it up and they ordered again. Today, they called me and set up an appointment for Monday to do it again. This was completely avoidable if the first guy had done the whole job properly. It's sloppiness on the part of the technician who came rather than anything to do with American Home Shield though. The only issue I have with AHS is that when I signed up, it was 50 bucks a month. Now, the monthly auto debit I see has climbed to almost 70 and I don't know what happened. Nobody ever wrote me anything.

    The first guy that American Home Shield sent out didn't know what he was doing. He shouldn't even have a volt meter in his hand. He was talking about tearing out walls and all kinds of things.     When the technicians come out to our home, it's been good for the most part. We've had a couple of issues where we had to have someone come back out but they always come back out and take care of it. Recently, Texas Best came out for the flame sensor that was short-cycling. I had to go back and fix it myself. The tech didn't clean all the carbon off it so I pulled it and cleaned it myself.

    AHS was hiring some subpar contractors to do the jobs. They did a repair on my AC system but not only did the tech do it poorly, he also did it unsafely to where it could have caught fire. But AHS has gotten much better now. We've had a refrigerator repaired twice and they did a great job. They've had the dryer repaired and did a great job too. AHS has been great. They've saved us a ton of money on the AC repairs that woulda cost us thousands of dollars.

    It was easy to submit a claim online when I had a problem with my heater. The options were kind of limited, and what I was hoping to get covered wasn't covered by the policy, which was disappointing because I did buy a large policy. I was going to make a claim because my stove pilot doesn't work either, but my existing installed appliances don't seem to be covered. So I would like for the policies to cover more of my appliances.

    I tried doing the live chat so that I could ask if something was covered and that took a very long time. I understand that part of it is because people are a little bit understaffed right now due to COVID. But it was very difficult to get on that chat and once I was on there, it dropped me, and then I had to sign up again to get back in line for the chat to be helped. Both of those times, it took over half an hour to get through to somebody. Also, it takes $75 to get a technician out just to look at the problem, and then tell me that it's not covered. I could do myself a lot of the things that are covered, like in basic plumbing, and not worth me calling a technician out here for $75. But I like the security of knowing if something does happen to the things that are covered that I have coverage on them.

    I submitted a claim with AHS because my refrigerator was leaking. I would come into my kitchen in the middle of the night and there would be water all over the floor. My icemaker also stopped working. The front of the middle deli tray drawer came off too. ADA Repair came out and they replaced the ice maker. They also fixed the light that when that water ran down, it shorted. So when you would also open our fridge, it was dark. No light would come on.

    For the leaking, I was told that we would have to take everything out of the fridge and let it defrost for an entire day. The icemaker and the light work fine. The only thing was the drawer, they told me that the drawer was discontinued. They sent the technician out on two trips because he hadn't got all the equipment he needed. It would have been more convenient if they would have let him receive all the pieces of equipment, and then send him off for one trip instead of multiple trips.

    The water that was coming out of the drinking dispenser on our refrigerator was coming out at a trickle, so the tech who came out replaced the valve. We also had a contractor come out because the dishwasher wasn't spraying properly, which wasn't our fault. But they said that they couldn't do anything about it because the tray underneath the bottom rack wasn't the original part. We just moved into the house and we didn't put it in.

    The repair on the microwave was a little bit delayed. The handle was broken, the buttons didn't work, and the cap covering the vent was not attached. But because the claim was submitted over the phone, the gentleman didn't fully understand what needed to be repaired. When the technician came out to fix the problem with the buttons, the fan wasn't turning on and you couldn’t operate the microwave. He said that the part probably was no longer being made and I was told that we wouldn't know until this week what was going to happen.

    The motor of our dishwasher wasn't working well. We made a claim for it and that was good. Gentlemen took the information and someone followed up with me. Technicians came out, they had to order a part and came back the following week. They did the job and off they went. They were really nice and very cooperative. They were neat and clean too. The dishwasher seems to be working well so far.

    This time, the claim was nothing major but I was a little bit surprised how this claim worked out. In the past, American Home Shield was terrible. I had a sewerage backup and I needed a plumber to come out. They gave me someone's name and the people called me to say they didn't do that anymore. It was an emergency and I had stuff all over my floor. I had to call my own plumber to do the job. They had to snake the clogged sewer line and in the process, broke the toilet. They ended up having to replace the toilet too.

    My charge for the snaking and what they did unclogging the line was 370 bucks. American Home Shield sent me $56, which I wasn't happy about. They said it was because I called my own person. I told them that was because their person said they couldn't do it. I added that that contractor should not even be on their list if they don't do this stuff anymore. If they have a person that doesn't do the work anymore, they should have a backup available immediately. This was a bad experience. I also had another claim where they didn't respond well either and I had my own people come out. It seems like American Home Shield gets these contractors and some of them are good while some just aren't.

    I get calls constantly about changing my service over to one of the other warranty companies. I've been with American Home Shield for about a year or so. I'm not a real changer. American Home Shield stepped up to the plate the last time and that was good. I was pleased with that. But I have another piece of property and I may have to look at somebody else when I look around.

    Appliance Wizard was lovely. They came out for our oven. My husband was frustrated with getting the claim processed though. He does not want to do things on the internet. Trying to call in and get somebody from American Home Shield to help is not easy. It's not easy finding out whether they've scheduled someone or not. Then the nighttime people, they say that they'll get somebody scheduled, and then they're supposed to have somebody contact me back. After he called it and was on the phone, I got a text from somebody. They said that it would be two weeks before they could come out. Now, this is not uncommon with the company because I had the same issue with a refrigerator.

    The first person that they sent the oven repair to was taking so long. That was their first available appointment. So, I contacted them back and said, “The light to my oven is on. I don't know if this is a safety thing or not.” And nobody can tell me what it is, so next in two weeks is not good enough. AHS did switch it to somebody else. They did choose Appliance Wizard. They did a little bit more due diligence the second time I called. The technician was absolutely wonderful. He inspected the oven, told us what was wrong, and set up a time to come back with the part to fix it. He was true to his word and had it fixed the next day. They had a canceled appointment, so they got us in earlier to come fix. They communicated the whole time and were very professional. I would definitely recommend them.

    As far as American Home Shield, my first encounter with them was on our refrigerator. I didn't get a callback from the repairman for two weeks, and we lost everything in our fridge. Nobody told us that we could call them back and get a more urgent one. I had another repair done and talking to that person from a company side, they said that AHS was one of the better companies that they deal with with these warranty programs. I was kind of surprised. The lady for that repair told us what to say to them to get the repair done sooner. She was very knowledgeable and helped with the ongoing repairs that we would have to do. So, we've gotten our money's worth.

    The furnace would kick on and then it would kick off, and then the flames wouldn't start. It was the same issue that I had around the end of December. The technician pegged it down to a pressure switch. The pressure switch issue came back. So he came back over here and fixed it. But it was harder to do a recall for the claim because you have to call and go on hold. American Home Shield’s hold times have been long. They weren't too bad when I called this one in, though. But I've had multiple issues with American Home Shield over the last number of months.

    American Home Shield's contractors are professional and on time. Everything is good with them. Their plumbing and HVAC contractors are good. But their appliance support, disconnection and everything else is unbelievably bad. I had a fridge problem that went on for months, and nobody knew which way was up. Two contractors told me that they couldn't work with AHS anymore. The first contractor used COVID as an excuse to back out of it. The second contractor let their contract expire at the end of the year. So I've had to switch contractors to fix appliances that have a really hard time dealing with AHS.

    I’ve had to file complaints with the Better Business Bureau. After spending way too much time on hold when I called AHS, I got ahold of somebody who would immediately apologize for every problem. They’d read through it and they’d promised to get back with me. But 95% of the agents would not get back with me. I'd have to call back in. They didn't follow up. I have one agent who called a couple of times and then he gave up. Another person that was in the parts department did a nice job at progressing one of the issues. I own six homes and I have three contracts with AHS. So I keep going through this, where contractors stop, and they've got to send somebody else back over. They don't know where the parts are on order.

    The good news is that I put something on Facebook three weeks ago and the AHS social media person has followed through brilliantly. She made sure that the parts are on order or if they're not on order, she gets the status. She's done a great job. Both of the issues that have been long term issues, a fridge at one property and an oven at another, have been finally dealt with. She did what should have been done six months ago. But I’m not going to renew with AHS as a result. I’m really at my wit's end.

    The first claim we did with American Home Shield was for our garage door. The spring snapped and we were disappointed to find out that they didn't cover that specific part. They only cover the electronic opener. It was a little bit misleading. They could be more detailed in their pamphlet showing what's covered so people are more informed before purchasing. But for this past claim, everything was simple to submit. Our heater just stopped working. A & R Complete Service's guy came out and diagnosed the issue. There was a little motor that had to be replaced and he came back the next day to install the replacement. He did fine and everything was good.

They're going to take care of it on that end. But that experience was fine overall. I just have had questions about some of the contractors that American Home Shield uses.

    When I had a claim for the washing machine, the gentleman came out and told me what the problem was. Then he came back two weeks later to make the changes. But then there was yet an occurrence of an entirely different issue. I didn't want to pay again for someone to come out for the same machine but different issue. So we just bought a new washing machine. But my biggest complaint was with the plumber that came out last spring. The way it's hooked up under there is ridiculous and when the electrician came by, he took pictures to go back and show people that he knows because he couldn't believe how the plumber hooked it up. It seems like American Home Shield doesn't want to replace items, which I understand them wanting to save money. But if I have to pay them again to have somebody else come, it doesn't seem like it's the most efficient way to do it.

    I submitted a claim a month ago for an air conditioning technician, and I would not recommend the contractor that was used to anybody. It was terrible. The guy that actually came to our house did a great job and he fixed it. But whoever owns that company that we talked to came without letting us know, and then he was really argumentative. It made the whole initial experience with AHS really unpleasant. When we had the plumbing issue, it definitely redeemed itself. We had a leaking showerhead and Matt’s Plumbing Services came out.     For the most part, the contractors that American Home Shield has been using have been very good and provided really good service. I only had one incident that was a concern, and they have been pretty responsive to getting stuff done quickly. We had a water heater that went out, and I felt like the contractor was kind of taking advantage. American Home Shield didn't really kind of stand up for us so we ended up not using the contractor. We went out and got our own contractor and just took a cash payment, which I felt was kind of underpayment for hot water heater today. Otherwise, everything has been really good. Recently, we were having a dishwasher that was leaking. The contractor that came out was exceptional, very knowledgeable and resolved our issue very quickly. So we were really happy with it.     Water was leaking out of the bottom of my garbage disposal. The plumber came within 48 hours and fixed the disposal and the bathroom sinks.     When my dryer was making a noise, a Sears gentleman came and he was exceptional. He had his face mask on at all times and he did not try to cut corners even though he did not have the part. He drove back to his service center and picked the part up. He came back, installed a new part and left. He said if I made a call within 90 days and it's a recall, I won't pay anything. I'm the only person living here and I told him the amount of times that I would use the dryer within three months will be approximately six times.     I had claims for the dishwasher and the microwave. Active Appliance Service was sent out. For the dishwasher, I was a little disappointed because it took them a whole month to be able to fix it as they needed to get a part. We had to do our own dishes for a whole month and that was not fun. I was raised without one, but we've come to depend on it. But when the guy came, he took care of it. He said that we had a little bit of a plumbing issue, which was part of the dishwasher. Then the microwave guy came in, got it done, replaced a part, and he was out of here. We've had to use AHS several times and they're very consistent. I'm very happy we got it. It's worthwhile.

    The trouble that we had was if we used any water like flush the toilet, wash our hands, dishes or clothes, that water all came out into the basement, out of a pipe. But D & B Plumbing came out and did a very good job. The repairman was very thorough and got the whole problem taken care of. Now we can use our water all at once. We were very pleased. Thankfully, American Home Shield was fast about getting somebody out here. Another time, we had a problem, and we had to wait a lot of days. But this time, it happened on a Saturday. Nobody was working on a Sunday, so they came and fixed it on Monday. That would be the main thing, just to be able to make sure things, especially things that are making your life a terrible wreck, get fixed as fast as possible. But they were. They did really good this time.

    We had at least one or two times that somebody came out for something that was relatively small, you have to pay $100 no matter what. The guy couldn't believe that we had to pay $100 because he said it didn't cost anything like that. It's really good if there is something that is going to cost more than $100. But it doesn't work out too well if it will only cost $40 or $50, and we had to pay a 100. We pay quite a bit of money a month to have it. Big things, we would think that they would pay for them. But after we paid the $100 for little things that cost less than $100, we don’t have to pay more than we would have to if we called somebody ourselves and had them come.

    The process of submitting a claim with AHS has been very simple. I always get an answer within 24 hours. Recently, my shower is leaking from the showerhead. It's been a week now. They came out and they looked at it and they couldn't fix it, so they had to order a part. They're gonna have to cut a hole to get to the valve that's leaking and they are gonna come back out once the part comes in. Having more parts on hand would have made things much easier. But the technician did a good job in explaining exactly what was wrong.

    The heating element in the dishwasher wasn't working. The tech from Appliance Express was good. He did exactly what I would want him to do. He also did some troubleshooting on the spray jets. I also tried to submit a claim early on in the pandemic and the plumbing company couldn't come out fast enough, which was kind of shocking because the sink was leaking. It was pretty unfortunate. I had to figure out how to fix it myself. Then, trying to get the refund of the servicing was a nightmare. It was a pretty crummy experience. Other than that, it's been good.

    The heater wouldn't come on one morning. The contractor texted me, “Would Monday between 11:00 and 3:00 work?” About halfway through the day, it dawned on me to check the circuit breaker. I texted back, “Can I talk to a technician before we schedule the appointment?” They called me and I told them, “I just flipped the breaker.     There were some intermittent noises in my furnace. I think they were adjusting the thermostat and it was coming on, but it wasn't heating. So, I called American Home Shield up. Weatherwise came out. It is a very good company. I would definitely use them again if given the option. The thing is I've had experiences where the claim process is very easy. I had experiences where it's extraordinarily difficult. I've had a number of experiences with them, and it started out pretty decent, but somehow, all of a sudden, the service end of it got routed over to the Philippines. And at times, it's extremely difficult to understand what they're saying. They can't even relate because they don't even have furnaces.

    Something happened with my refrigerator. I went online and submitted a claim. That was easy and simple. The technicians sent me a message to tell me they were on the way. The only thing is if you have the same problem happen again like with your air conditioning service, American Home Shield should look at sending out the same company because after a while, they understand your equipment.     The claim was easy to set up. But the timeframe of getting somebody out there was kind of a drag and also if they have to order parts. I've had some issues with technicians in the past that I've been a little upset with, where they came out for a repair but didn't repair the problem. They just kind of put a Band-Aid on, which I talked to the company about. With this recent repair, Sears was good. But the prior contractor for our refrigerator repair was kind of bad.

    American Home Shied has been pretty good. Stuff has been handled and taken care of. But some of their contractors in the past have had some bad reviews. You have to wait sometimes, and they say, "Oh, we're going to be Dixon next week or two weeks from now," which is kind of ridiculous. To me, they should be able to come out in a couple of days and diagnose the problem. So American Home Shield should look at some of their contractors, and they should have more of a quicker response to get out to repair something.

    The water heater was leaking badly and it needed to be replaced. Keilly's did absolutely wonderful. They responded within 12 hours of being notified. They assessed the problem and found out that they could replace it. They came back four hours later and then six hours after they were there, we were back with hot water. I can't have enough good words for them. The claims process worked real well this time. Sometimes, it would take three days. But sometimes, it's a weekend issue. Other than that, the process is fine and real easy. I've had two warranty companies that didn't work, and American Home Shield has always been the better of them.

    AHS has been pretty good. You call and they answer and you can get in touch with them when you need them. I had five lights that would not come on. The tech checked that everything was fine. He did fine. But sometimes, they change the balances in it, and they're all working fine. If you're in the kitchen, they have four and one of them takes a little time to come on, but it comes on right after. So I'm not really concerned about it. But I am concerned about the guy with the dryer that's supposed to be coming. He told me he'd give me a call, but that was since last week. They never called me.

    My father is on hospice and we were without the use of the shower. That was a bit of an inconvenience, initially, to get the appointment. We weren't able to secure a plumber closer geographically because it's not available on the American Home Shield website. This plumber was quite a ways away. They eventually came days out, which was four or five days. When you have an elderly person on hospice that only could use that one bathroom, it was a bit of an inconvenience. He had to order the needed part and it came in two days. He came back and even though it's snowing, he still put the part on. He explained how my heat pump works and why it wasn't working. He did a good job. AHS got the job done and got somebody to come out quickly to handle the situation.

    I recently had a claim to American Home Shield for an appliance repair. It was solved. A repairman came out and he said that we needed to order a part. It took a couple of weeks, and he came out and fixed it. It's working now. He was efficient, neat, timely and concerned about protecting my countertop. He wanted a towel to put down so. So, that was very positive. He wore a mask and he did all the right things. My daughter's going to be contacting American Home Shield to subscribe.
