I don't feel real good about American Home Shield's service. Their customer service stinks. You can't understand most of the representatives. If you have something wrong in your house, you want to be able to understand them well enough to find out when they’re going to send someone out to get it fixed. From what I understand, they're in the Philippines, and they're not the nicest people when you get them on the phone. I've had one guy even hang up on me. When they send out the service tech that you want, the service from him is good. But they argue and argue and argue that they don't want to send that tech out. It's almost time for me to renew my warranty plan and I'm not sure I'm going to stay with American Home Shield. I'd really like for them to get their customer service back in the US where we can understand them.
When I called American Home Shield for my refrigerator, they weren't going to send someone out for a week. I told them it was a refrigerator and it needs to be fixed. So they arranged for a technician. But they wouldn't give the job to the guy who normally works on my refrigerator. They were gonna send it to Sears. But Sears was going to wait a week and a half before they even called me for an appointment and then they told me they were a week out from being able to come and look at my refrigerator. When I called American Home Shield and explained that, they said, “Well, we did it within our guidelines.”
I had to call and call and call American Home Shield to get the guy who normally works on my refrigerator to come out. He knew the refrigerator. He knew where I lived. He was familiar with everything and I wanted him to come out. But American Home Shield wouldn't do it. One lady was so rude that she was not going to give it to that guy that I was requesting. So I waited a while, called back, and got a different person. I talked to her about changing the technician that was going to come out and she said, “Oh, absolutely.” She switched it and the guy was here that afternoon.
When I get an email or a paper bill to renew my subscription, there's a dollar amount on it. When I call to make the payment, they give me a discount. But about two weeks later, I get a nasty gram saying I still owe on my policy. I call American Home Shield back and I tell them, “Hey, I paid what I was told to pay.” But they told me it was the wrong amount. So I ended up paying about $40 more than what the original agent told me. They told me that the agent gave me a wrong number.

I love American Home Shield’s service. Their efficiency in getting a contractor out here is beneficial. I find the copay and the annual membership are reasonable, considering we have an older house and a lot of things continue to break. I've had issues with some of the contractors and I have called American Home Shield back and said, “Do not send them out here. I want somebody different.” They have obliged. Watertight is the best. They get 5 stars from me. They came for a pool issue and they were competent, expedient and very kind. Who AHS is contracted with in terms of their service people is, unfortunately, a trial and error, but they just need to pay attention to the customer's feedback about who those service repair people are. Overall, my only objection is sometimes the calls are outsourced to another country. I want to keep everything in America.

We were not having any water pressure and everything from shower to faucet was really low. And sometimes, there was nothing coming out at all. But apparently, it was just a bad water regulator and from what I've read online, it needed to be changed every three to five years. The reps that AHS sent out were able to change that and now, we’ve got strong water pressure. We also got no problems since they've since changed that out. The techs were very professional, on time. and they reached out to me to give me a heads up that they were coming by.

I made a claim on an electric problem. The first thing was the outlet was not working on the left side of the house then the breakers kept tripping. The electrician came and figured out what it was. He was a very professional, friendly and nice guy. He went through everything he was gonna do and the problem here with my husband then he fixed it and we haven't had a problem since. Overall, American Home Shield is a good service. I recommended this company to the family across the street 'cause they're having problems with their company.

I had a malfunctioning vent on my stovetop. The tech that AHS sent was professional. He was very friendly and efficient. We had a good time. He did his job and did it well. He had to return because he had to get a part and the same when he came back. I have nothing but praises for the repair company also.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together.

I had a pool pump issue so I filed a claim and someone was in touch with me within a day. But there was a little bit of a wait until the contractor could come out and inspect the pool pump. Then, they had to do a replacement and there was a two-week wait on that but it is what it is. Everybody's having supply chain issues at the moment.

I've had American Home Shield for almost 30 years and we've met some good people as well as some people that were amazingly bad. During the ice storm, they sent a plumber who didn't repair anything, charged us, brought his kid with him, and made a sexual innuendo. He left my water running too. I called in and said, “These people are horrible,” but I still had to pay the co-pay, and I had to get somebody else to come. It was awful. AHS should have given me my $75 back because I had to call and pay for Benjamin Franklin's Plumbing and that cost me $300 just to get them to walk in my house. American Home Shield also sent some people out that attached wires in my AC and heat and it burned up my unit. We only use people they send out, and it wasn't taken care of properly. We got in a big fight, and we had to buy a new air conditioner, which cost us five grand.
On the other hand, American Home Shield has also sent Cross Electric, which was amazing. The recent AC heat guy was amazing as well. My AC heat was doing nothing, and the man said there was a switch that did something. He had to go get a part and he took care of it. He was very nice and professional, and I would use him a million times compared to some of the idiots that American Home Shield sent out here. Sometimes they don't know who they're sending, and they send unqualified people, but of all the companies out there doing the extra home protection, they're the best.

I filed a claim with AHS for my water heater because it was leaking slightly and the tech said I needed a new water heater. I asked him if it was covered and he said it was not up to code. He said he'd have to charge me separately for that or for whatever American Home Shield didn't cover. So, they came, fixed it, and it’s been fine since. I was also going to file a claim for my computer because it's not working well. I have the electronics package, so a couple of weeks ago, I called American Home Shield. But they said I should call Allstate for that. So, I called Allstate and they said they couldn't find my account. They said they needed proof of it, so I sent them the PDF contract. They said it doesn't say it on there, so I asked them to look up my account number. But they said they couldn't find me at all. I then called American Home Shield and they told me to just give them the number.
So I've been doing that for weeks and going the back and forth between both of them. And neither of them would talk to each other about it. American Home Shield sent me a new contract with the updated information in it because apparently, all I needed was a PDF. But I don't know why they can't call each other to find the account I'm registered for. All in all, my experience with AHS hasn't been great. There was also a bunch of messes up with my account where they've charged me a few times, but I had no idea. They charged my card $240 randomly, then I got a random charge of $7. They said that I was supposed to be paying this much but I was quoted a different amount. Then I talked to a bunch of people and everyone just kept telling me the same thing. I just don't understand how I'm getting charged $20 extra.
Overall, I understand the concept and I like the idea of the warranty. But I feel like a lot of people I've talked to are not helpful. I just get the runaround a lot and people give me very generic answers. Also, when I asked a lot of questions when I was signing up for the packages, they said that everything was covered with the package. So I was confused when American Plumbing came out and they said that certain stuff were not covered as I didn't have them in the policy. If I had known that, I would have opted for another package that covered everything. So I thought I was getting guaranteed something and everything that I've been guaranteed has not happened.

American Home Shield is not easy to work with. My refrigerator died at the beginning of the pandemic and they cashed me out for way too little money to purchase a replacement refrigerator. That was frustrating. Also, sometimes the quality of work hasn't been great. Recently, someone came out 'cause my disposal wasn't working and it turns out that they probably didn't need to come out. I had to pay $75 for no work to be done.
The call center is terrible. I managed to track down the phone number of a woman who works in the administration so she could help me with the call center that often times it's people in a different country and they have no idea about home repairs. American Home Shield should get a different call center and communicate more effectively. I'm not satisfied with them and I wouldn't recommend them.

I called AHS to tell them that I was having a problem with my air conditioning heating unit. The unit is in the garage and it was backing up and leaking all down in the floor. They scheduled the technician to come out. The part where the condensation stuff was supposed to be draining out was stopped up. The technician was able to clear that. He was also very, very nice. The water is not leaking into the garage anymore.

Having American Home Shield is a love-hate type of thing. Some things get done correctly, and some things are shoddy work. With our microwave, they had me do a virtual appointment. With that, they ordered a part then scheduled someone to come out, and the guy said, "This is the completely wrong part." I still haven't heard back for when that's going to get fixed. In the past, AHS had someone do the seal on the dishwasher twice, and it was still flooding out. I gave up with that and just tried to figure out how to fix it myself because they do just the bare minimum of anything. I didn't want to pay another $75 to have somebody come out as well.
I'm paying for American Home Shield every month, and I have to pay to have someone come out. I almost think, "Should I just get rid of this and just pay outright for brand-new everything or something?" It'd be a lot cheaper than paying the fee every month and paying $75 every time someone comes out then they don't have the right part and have to do it again, or they don't do it correctly, like with the dishwasher seal. There have been some great things though. When we had a problem with the garbage disposal, that guy was amazing. He did awesome and even showed me tricks of what I can do in the future. That was wonderful.

Our refrigerator and freezer were broken and the water stopped working. It was easy to get through to American Home Shield. I had to do the follow-up on the claim because the first people wanted to wait a week. I called and asked for somebody else. We got a second contractor and their guy was really good. He got us the parts and fixed the problem within the week. Having a home warranty is cheaper than trying to come up with the money for either service or for a new product when it's unexpected.

My humidifier was leaking. We were scheduled a week after he put it in. But the tech fixed it within an hour. He was super friendly and professional. He got the job done really quickly and was able to do a couple of things to help save us some money. He said, “If you have this piece, I don't need to go buy it.” And that could save us some money. So he was really helpful in that way. The tech was clever too. He was able to cut one of the cords and rebuilt it, because that's why the humidifier was leaking.
I went back and forth on cancelling our warranty. Ultimately, when I was looking at how much it cost the tech to come out just for annual maintenance, that covered the cost of the warranty.

The kind of service that AHS offers makes your life a bit easier. Their website is easy to follow. The first time, when the contractor came, under the sink in the bathroom was leaking. And the bathroom upstairs was clogged. So, the contractor unplugged the tub and there was a little iron there. That one was loose and they told me it needed to be replaced. That's what they came to replace the second time. They were nice and professional, and they were quick too. Everything is perfect.

My experience with AHS has not been very good at all. The first issue I had was that my dishwasher was leaking, not drying the dishes and not cleaning up. I sent the request and it took AHS more than a week for the guy to respond to me. And then he came almost 10 days later. He said, “No, your machine is not fixable. It’s leaking. I will send the request with the American Home Shield to replace it.”
I waited for another week and never heard from anybody. I called them back and they're like, “We apologize, I will get back to you tomorrow. I'll make sure your request is processed.” The next day and two days later, nobody called. Then I called back again and then again, same person, same story. It took me a month and a half calling every single day to get the dishwasher. Everything is so frustrating up to my head. I was like, “Screw this. I’m wasting too much of my time.”
Finally, the dishwasher was approved. It took almost two months. The one I had was not available and AHS gave me options. I picked one anyways and three weeks later, I called back again to get an update of what's going on and the guy I spoke with said, “Oh! Your dishwasher is not approved. Your request is closed.” The guy didn't know what he was talking about. I just hung up on him. I called the appliance department because it was already approved then. They said, “Yeah. You're going to get your new dishwasher next week.”
In the meantime, the dishwasher was leaking, water was on the floor and it messed up my cabinet. Before I realized it, water was dripping to the basement. Then, there was another leak issue because of that. So I called for the leak. The next person, TMD Plumbing, responded the next day and came back two days later. They were very on top of things. Also, they kept saying that all the water is coming from the dishwasher. TMD provided great service and I'm very happy with them.
Every time I called, AHS had no clue what happened and they cannot pull up any record. Whatever the service they provide, they have zero idea what they do. I never in my life had such a bad service. Finally, it’s all done now. But it's not a happy situation. With all the damage that has been done to my floor and to the basement with the leaks, I'm going to have to spend a lot of money. The cabinet got messed up too. Also, I can't explain it to the reps. If I tell them, they do not understand. Apparently, they speak very good English but they cannot comprehend the problem and what I'm talking about. It's very limited on the way they train. I wish they bring some services back to the US.

We're satisfied with American Home Shield's service. Generally, we have prompt service with the contractors and it's easy to contact customer service as needed. Recently, we had to have our furnace replaced. We had to cover the whole cost, which was not great but we had to get it done. I was hoping that Home Shield would have covered some of it, considering the history with all of the work orders we had put on it. Other than that, the contractor that we went with through them did a great job.

I tried to file a claim via the website but it would not work. It kept giving me an error like, "Go ahead to schedule," and it would say that I would have to put in my credit card, but it wouldn't give me an option to update my card. But my card is on file. American Home Shield charges me every month. So, I end up having to call in order to make the claim.
The claim went well in terms of it ended well. But getting the contractor out there took over a week. And AHS always said, somebody will contact me. And they said the company tried to get into contact with me and I haven't answered, but they never reached out to me. So, I called Foster's. That was how I got the information, and they came out. But they said they couldn't get out there. I made the claim on a Thursday, Foster's came out the next Friday. But once Foster's got out there, they were great. The tech said, "Here's your problem." It turned out to be a simple fix. The something was clogged with a piece of a bowl that had broken off.
The same thing happened when my water heater went out. It took two weeks to get someone out. In the past, I've had air conditioning trouble and it took a week. I called AHS and said, "This is ridiculous. I can just call an appliance person and get him out here the next day. I appreciate the value of your service. But to me, waiting a week to not have a dishwasher doesn't work for me. So can I just cancel my service?" They said, "No, no, no. We'll cut the service fee in half." So, instead of paying a $100 service fee, they only made me pay 50. But I still want to cancel because it really is of no use to me to have to wait so long to get services done.
You're lucky if anybody even contacts you within 48 hours to make an appointment. They also made me do a video call where I had to show them the serial number of my dishwasher and what the problem was and the error code, which I thought was great. When I called them, they asked what was wrong with my dishwasher. But I said, "I did a whole video thing. You don't know?" "No, we don't know what's wrong with it." "I gave them all the codes. We did a video. They made me take pictures. Why did they do all that if they don't give that information to you?" It's frustrating.
Also, with their service with my water heater, their guy came out and said, "I can't just replace your water heater. I have to make all these code upgrades and it's gonna cost you like $1,800 outside of American Home Shield." I said, "Are you insane? Why would I pay you $1,800 when I just need a new water heater?" "We have to reroute this and that." "There was nothing wrong with this when the house was built. Why do I have to do it now?" I took the payout and we went and bought a water heater and had it installed.
The same thing happened with the AC. AHS couldn't even get anybody out. They told me to call another service company because it happened in the summer. All of their people were backed up. I waited three weeks but no one came. Then they said, "Just call someone else." So, I called out Sears and they gave me an estimate and told me it would be $3,400 to replace my system. And AHS said, "That's way beyond what we cover. And so, we'll call out our guy." So, I had to wait another week or two. Their people came out and said the same thing, "We have to do this, this, this, and this in order to make it up to code, and then it's going to cost you out of pocket again all this money." I said my house did not have central air when I bought it. I added it. So, it was all up to code. They said, "Call this number and American Home Shield will give you a payout." They paid me $1,100, then I went and paid Sears $3,400 to fix it.
So, in both cases, which I almost canceled again, but AHS said, "You can just get a payout." They told me my out-of-pocket cost to change my water heater would be $1,800 or they could pay me $500 as a payout. The water heater cost $500. But they said that in order for them to install the water heater, they had to reroute pipes. So, they skip ways to make it so they don't have to pay as much for the claim. "Here's a cashout amount," rather than getting the full system fixed like it should have been.

He actually showed me how to fix the dryer and he helped me order the part off of Amazon. The part came in the next morning. The dryer has been fixed and it is working beautifully. I had a problem with my furnace. It wouldn't kick on. The fan would work but we couldn't get the heat to come out. The techs contacted me within 24 hours after I submitted the claim with AHS. The tech called me ahead of time and told me he was on his way. When he knocked on the door, I knew who it was. He was able to figure it out right away.
I had a wall mount oven that was a little old that when it stopped working and I called AHS and they sent Sears out. They realized right away that they would not be able to get the part that it needed. American Home Shield was gonna provide me with a new wall mount oven. But they were back-ordered because of COVID. I contacted them in January and I didn't hear back from them at all until June. I had gone all that time without an oven. They said, “If you could find one on your own because it's still back-ordered, we can either give you a check, or you can find out where there is one and we'll pay for it.”
The problem was they only gave me $1,048 and all wall mount ovens are quite a bit higher than that. Financially, I could not replace it. They did not give me enough and they weren’t able to provide me with one. They gave me the $1,000 and I used it to buy a freestanding oven stove because my stovetop wasn’t working great either.
The only time that I was very disappointed wasn’t so much stuff, but still because I knew about the pandemic and I understood that. But I have an old dryer and I had to call them because it was not working. When the guy got here, he said, “You’ve got an old dryer.” He didn’t do anything, suggest anything. It's still running, but it's obvious to me that it got a bad belt because I can hear it going and it's very loud. It stops quite often through the cycle and then restarts. Besides that, I like them.

The dishwasher wasn't cleaning the dishes. The tech saw that whatever part that went out didn't allow the water to stay in the dishwasher. It would just come in and go out. The tech did a good job on it. I'm glad we have American Home Shield. We weren't happy with them last month. But we have only had one bad experience out of all these years.
Our hot water heater quit working. So, we called AHS and they sent out Infinite Plumbing. The guy looked at it and saw that it wasn't working and that the temperature thing was turned to the highest setting. He said that was what caused the water heater to go out. So, he called AHS to tell what happened and they said that it would not be covered because that was considered misuse and abuse. The only problem is we used AHS to service that water heater in 2017. All I knew was it was in the attic. I have never seen a water heater and my husband and I have never touched it. It was The Lindsay Company that did that and turned it up too high and caused it to break before its time because it was not repairable.
So, I called back and tried to tell AHS that I understand it was because it was turned up too high, but it was someone that they sent that made it go out within the four years. It went on and on and AHS insisted on getting a second opinion. So, someone from some other plumbing company came out and I knew second opinion meant another $75. That's fine. But that guy said the same thing - it was because it was turned up too high.
The four people that we talked to at AHS tried to make it seem like we were disputing the two plumbers' diagnosis. I agreed with the first person that was sent out here. But no one listened to me. It got very frustrating. I talked to two reps and my husband talked to two, and we just gave up and spent over $2,000 to buy a new water heater. We were being blamed for it. I just wanted someone to acknowledge that The Lindsay Company that they sent out in 2017 didn't set it properly and it caused it to break. We considered leaving after that ordeal last month because it was not acceptable. Other than that, we have been very happy with AHS. Great company.

I dropped AHS because I could not stand the fact that every time I call customer service, I got connected to someone overseas. Their English was poor and it took me forever to speak to someone in America. AHS used to be really good but when people need customer service, they should be able to talk to somebody in the United States who speaks their language and there's not this big barrier between them. Other than that, the contractors were separate from American Home Shield and I wouldn't say they were great, but they were okay.

The first time we ever used AHS, we ended up getting a AC unit. That worked out really well for us. But then, I had some issues with my washing machine, where it ended up taking a week for the people to come out. When they came out, they couldn't fix it. They had to go back, tell American Home Shield what was going on. American Home Shield had to get the part and then send it to them. It ended up taking quite a while to get appliances fixed.
My worst experience was with my dishwasher. A company came out that American Home Shield sent out. They thought they knew what the problem was and went back, let American Home Shield know, got the part and then came out. But that wasn't it. Thanksgiving and Christmas came and went. Another company I ended up calling, "What's going on?" They had to send a new company out. That company came out three times and they finally got it fixed. But they replaced the whole thing, it seemed like because the company put parts on it. Also, the monthly payment went up from 30 something dollars. For a while, I've been paying $56. Four months ago, it jumped up to $87. Big difference. I called AHS to cancel it and they just gave me a runaround with that. The guy said, "We'll give you two months free." I was like, Okay, I'll stay with them.

When we bought a home 15 years ago, we had an American Home Shield warranty. Our washer went out after we moved in and we got a new one. It was awesome. They called me. I got it. We moved into this house and we've been here two months. It's super easy to request for service. For my first claim, For Him Services replaced the disposal, and that was done great. I have a second claim. I was in the kitchen two weeks ago and walked to the washer. I thought, “That sounds crazy.” I was watching it and it had six minutes and it completely shut off. We went through this whole process and it has been a nightmare.
American Home Shield should be more aware of what the qualifications of the repairmen that they send are. The first repair person did two no-shows. The second one came but they don't work on our kind of washing machine made by LG. They had to refer to a third one who is on their second appointment with me. The first time, they didn’t schedule. They just called and said, “Well, we have you. We're going to come today.” “Well, I'm at work. Obviously, there's no one there.” They said, “Oh, I'm sorry. We thought we had you on our schedule.” They scheduled for today between 10:00 and 2:00, and at 2:30, they still weren't there.
The repairman is going to come after 3:30 when I get home and I hope it gets worked out. Before now, I would have recommended American Home Shield because of my previous experience, but at this point, I would definitely not make that strong of a recommendation. This is what I have for this year of new homeownership, then I'm done for a while.

AHS has been good so far. I like it. If I submitted a claim, the response was quick. The service provider usually contacted me quick and was out to the property within a day or two, and then the issue is resolved shortly after that. It's a very simple process. A contractor came out for the pool pump and it worked out well. I personally wouldn't be without AHS. There's a lot of expensive items in the house that frequently need repair and for the money I've spent with AHS, it's been totally worth it.

Home Shield's customer service is cordial. They tell me who they are and explain. They ask me what my challenge is, I explain it to them, and they take care of it. The techs that I had were cordial too and they respected my household. They came in with their mask on and their booties on their feet to do what they need to do. They get the job done and they make suggestions that need to be done. The timeframe is very good when techs come but they have to travel so far. Maybe Home Shield could work out a contract with some people who live near. Other than that, I'd advise others to utilize Home Shield. The greatest part of it is if you do the maintenance that you're supposed to do when you're supposed to do them, you won't have serious challenges.

The claim process of AHS is easy. I just don't like how American Home Shield tries to get out of repairs or replacement that need to be made. Instead, they look for the bottom dollar and try to shortcut their way through fixing things. I've had problems with my seven-year-old pool pump and they replaced it with a 12-year-old refurbished pool pump. Then it went out within months. They tried to replace it again with another 10-year-old refurbished one rather than just doing the right thing and replacing it with a new unit. My AC unit is quite old and they just put a Band-Aid on that as well. But with the dishwasher and clothes dryer, they were good.

I've had a few claims and American Home Shield has come through with flying colors. It's just a little slow sometimes. Like now, I have a situation with my swimming pool and they got two parts. First part was wrong. They brought in another one. I'm trying to close it for the winter, but my motor went bad. And I still haven't heard anything. It has been almost a month and a half. I'm gonna call AHS and see what is going on. Other than that, I've had great experience with them. When your appliance goes out, AHS is just like an insurance. You're covered. And that's great that you can either get it fixed, or if it's unrepairable they do replace it. It's just some of the people that do the work for them. They're probably stretched right now because of the COVID situation. They're understaffed.

American Home Shield is so worth it. It's a great coverage to have for your home. When there was a leakage from the valve and the front of the toilet, their website was easy to use and it was really quick. They notified me that a contractor had been dispatched. It was a weekend so the contractor was gonna notify me once they were on their way, which they did. There were constant updates about it that it had been received and it was in process. The plumber explained the process to me while he was working on it, and he also explained what was needed. He had everything there. He replaced the valve, and that stopped the leak. It prevented a lot of future problems. For him to come out when they said he was gonna be there was great. Before I remembered that we had American Home Shield, I contacted a different plumber who postponed me three times.

I had a couple of claims that I needed to make this year. American Home Shield was really difficult to deal with. It was a hassle to run back and forth between contractors. The first bad experience was when I had a plumbing leak. American Home Shield got a contractor out to repair it and they did a horrible job. They didn't fix the toilet leak. It was sloppy work and they left a mess. They walked out even before I even had a chance to go look at their work.
I had a big hassle with American Home Shield trying to get them to make it right. They wanted to keep sending the same plumber out there. I said, "No. They were so awful. I don't want them back out. I want you to send someone else out." I had to fight with them and threaten to cancel my contract before they finally agreed to send another plumber out. This second plumber looked at the toilet leak and agreed that it was horrible. They fixed that well.
I had a second claim later in the year. That was difficult to deal with because it wasn't really clear whether it was an air conditioning or a plumbing problem. American Home Sheild sent out a plumber and the plumber looked at it and said it was an air conditioning problem. The air conditioner people come out and said it was not the AC. It kept bouncing back and forth with the contractors. They were not really deeply figuring it out. One of them finally spent a little time and diagnosed the issue better. He concluded it was an air conditioning problem and he showed me until I believed it. I then had to get on the phone with American Home Shield and told them, "I got an air conditioning problem, but I don't really trust the contractor that you sent out. So I hired a different contractor." American Home Shield gave me a cash payout they calculated up. They sent a check out right away.
I had other claims with them throughout the years that have gone fine. American Home Shield sent somebody out that fixed the issue right away and fixed it right. When everything works fine, it's wonderful. But when it doesn't, American Home Shield can be very difficult to deal with. Another thing is when you usually have an issue and get on the phone with customer service, their call center is not here in America and it can be very difficult to communicate. There are some language barrier issues sometimes with the overseas call centers they're using. I decided after those two incidents this year that I was going to cancel my contract with American Home Shield.

The heating and air conditioning came out in the bathroom that was connected to the bedroom, but there was no air or heat coming out in one of my offside bedrooms. Someone came out in August for a claim we had and they did nothing. The tech went up in the attic, came back, and told me they didn't do that kind of work. I said, "You need to write American Home Shield and let them know so they can get another person out here to work on it." I looked in my file on my online account and they showed that the work had been completed.
I went back to American Home Shield and told them the work was not completed. I requested another visit. Sometime later, they sent the same people out. The tech drove up in my yard. I was a little late and they were waiting on me. When I got in the yard, he got out, and I asked why he was here. He asked if it was the same problem and I said yes. He wouldn't be abe to do anything about that so he got back in his truck and drove off.
I called American Home Shield and they showed the claim to have been completed again. Every time I tried to call in and I asked to speak to a supervisor, they told me I could not. They would tell me the same thing. I finally wrote two letters. I wrote one to the corporate headquarters and that one came back. I sent the other letter to a PO box in Memphis, Tennessee. I then spoke to a lady at American Home Shield and she gave me another contractor. She was very helpful. She called me almost daily until the issue was solved. She wanted to make sure that the contractor contacted me. She told me she would call me again when they came to see if the unit was working.
The tech was very professional and he did what he could to try to find the problem. He went over and above because he even checked my filters. He told me how they ran it and it was all hooked up with my den. He said that when the air and heat is blowing in my dining room, it takes away from some of the pressure pushing the air into the bedroom. He told me if I close off one of the vents in the den, it would make more heat going into the bedroom. I did feel heat coming out. The only thing is my heat is still not coming out like it needs to.

So as far as that, I'm just waiting to see what they're going to give me so I can put it towards the dryer. But it's been two weeks now and they never notified me to tell me that they didn't move forward to send me a check. I called and they said they’re sorry that they dropped the ball and they were going to get right on it. But I haven't heard from them since. Their telephone thing is ridiculous because it would tell me to hold on and that they'd be ready in 10 minutes. They got in touch with Southern Appliance, and they gave me a call and let me know what day they were coming out. They did exactly what they said they were gonna do. When I was joining, I talked to the guy and the whole while, I was very skeptical about American Home Shield. I was scared because I've dealt with companies that didn't do what they said they were going to do. I asked questions. The guy explained everything to me and he didn't try to sell me the top one. The best thing for us is that it ensures that we get a good company to do the work. One of the things I've discovered is the people that do the work through American Home Shield are really good people. In fact, I just had a garbage disposal installed by a plumbing company and they were great.
What we're really buying is somebody goes out and negotiates favorable terms with the people that do the work. Over the years, we had at least one air conditioner compressor, a dishwasher, a furnace, and a hot water heater replaced. Recently, we had a bad fitting on our water heater. We're in Madisonville, which is kind of a little small town. It's an hour away from any large town, so it's hard to get service work out here. It caused the compressor to go out. The service person fixed the leak in one of the copper lines and put some gas in it. However, the unit still wasn't able to get it to kick in, so they had to submit for a compressor. It was approved within 24 hours then they came out the next day and installed it. We just had a slight miscommunication on who was calling who to confirm the time. But it all worked out great because I was going home for lunch anyway. They said they were on their way and I was only 10 minutes away from work.
The guy came out, looked it over, and did the repair. I’m from out of state and I wasn't familiar with heat pumps. He took a couple minutes explaining how they work and what to watch for in the winter time, like when the heat pump gets below zero, they will give off a steam and it'll look like smoke, so I know the stuff is not on fire. They went above and beyond with their explanation and totally stop me from freaking out later this winter. If we were to buy our next house, we'll throw American Home Shield on there. Last year, my smoke alarms went out and I turned my claim in to AHS. They got somebody right out to fix it, but I waited a couple of weeks and nobody showed. I finally called them and they said that that company doesn't come out here. But nobody told me a thing about it. The rep said that she'd reschedule somebody else and she sent me the thing in the email. I looked at it and I called a company in Portland. They said they don't go out here either and that they didn't know why AHS was bothering them with my claim. In the end, I paid to have the repairs done myself out of my own pocket because they were smoke alarms.
After that, AHS sent me an outrageous bill for 900 and some dollars for a year of service. But I told them outright to drop it because I didn't want it, and I just let the thing lapse. I got ahold of a girl who said that since I was an old customer, I could get the contract for 500 for the same exact coverage. And that was the only reason I signed up for this year. But if they start jacking the price up again on me next year, they can stuff it. I'm not going to pay that kind of money for that kind of coverage. They have lousy service and they're not like they used to be. They’ve slipped considerably.
Other than that, when I had a problem with a faucet, it took three months to get the parts and get the repair done. It was because of the transportation and supply problems during covid and it was not American Home Shield's fault. But I’d already paid my 100 deductible upfront and they stood by that even after I’d canceled them. They didn't try to weasel out of that so, that could go in the positive column.

I have a home warranty with American Home Shield. My Stove/Range large burner started shooting flames and stating on high temperature in October of 2020. I put in a service repair. Paid the $100 service fee and Sears Appliance came out. After two months wait some repairs were done. In June of 2021 the same large burner started shooting flames and remaining on, on high temperature no matter how I try to turn it off. The oven also stopped working. I called and reported this to American Home Sheild. I was told that the service contract with Sears has been closed. I was told that I would have to open a new service contract and pay another $100 service fee for a new contractor to come out. I did this.
Artic Appliance came out and did an estimate, back in the end of June. Almost six months later. Every month my monthly plan fee is being taken out of my account by AHS and no repair. I've been shuffled from the Escalation, to Authorization, to Customer Service and back around to the Technician about ten times each, after waiting on hold for over two hours at a time to speak with someone. Almost six months and still being shuffled around and around and around, with monthly fees being faithfully withdrawn and no repair. Six months. Six months. Six months.

He came back the next day, put the part in, and he accommodated us when we were available. When I talked to him on the phone, he seemed very professional. I'm a big fan of the AHS warranty in general and we haven't had any issues with it. It's nice to know that it gives peace of mind if something happens. We've had some other issues before and they came out and fixed it. We pay the service fee and then if we didn't have that, then we have to pay more than that service fee, and it could be hard financially.

Every time we went to the thermostat, it would say our system is cutting on, but we wouldn't hear or feel anything. Cole from Accent Air went to the attic and checked our heating out. He fixed the problem pretty quickly and let me know what was going on. He was really thorough and he did a good job. He gave me a few tips here and there for the off-season and what to do.
It's not cheap to repair an AC unit or a heating unit. A home warranty is a must-have in the event that something is really wrong and we can't afford it at the moment. Submitting my claim to AHS was simple and they got to me pretty quickly. It's an excellent service and it's not costing an arm and a leg to pay for, so I'm happy with it.
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done.

We were told by a friend to get American Home Shield. I tried to file a claim with them, but they denied it after I paid the $100 to have a service guy come out. The guy who came out to do the service never even checked my system. He said to tell American Home Shield that it was going to be more than it actually cost to fix it and that I wanted to reroute it.
American Home Shield denied it because they said there was a crack in my plumbing. I said, “There's no way you can know there's a crack in my plumbing. The guy never even checked.” It was in my slab, so there was no way the guy could even see it. He would have to shoot a camera down it to see it. I told them I wanted a refund of the $100 but the rep said that they couldn't refund. I complained enough and they finally refunded me a portion of it ‘cause she said a portion of it went to the guy. It was a big mess and I wasn't happy about that. Also, it's been really hard to get in touch with a person. If you try and call, you gotta jump through hoops trying to get in touch with a real person.

I was disappointed in the first call that we had out. It was supposed to have been for a “tune-up,” and the guy that American Home Shield sent should have found the problem. We had to pay $75 for this supposed tune-up and he didn't even do anything. Our heater completely went out and something was wrong with the circuit board, so the motor was running for hours. In order to make it stop, we had to unplug the unit.
The last technician that came out said that it looked like, at some point, the circuit board had been exposed to moisture, so it wasn't making a good connection. It was totally fried, so he replaced the circuit board and it's been running fine since. This technician was very professional, nice, knowledgeable, explained things to us really well, and wasn't the least bit intrusive with us and the house. He was fantastic, so I have no complaints about the work that he did or the repair and it's continued to work. The second guy that came out was worth it, but the first guy, the money should be refunded.

We had the refrigerator water dispenser stopped working. So, the pad needed to be replaced. Then, on the hood over our cooktop, the light stopped working on one of the switches. The company that came out through American Home Shield seemed very professional and they had to come a few times because the parts weren't quite right, but they seem to work until they got the job done. Now, they did not fix my hood. I'm not sure what happened, but they weren't able to get the light to work.
When they replaced one of the units, they replaced the pad of the insert for the water thing. They actually got it in black, and it was normally in silver, but the tech told me that that appliance was so old, and that was all he could get. He came back twice for the hood because the first control panel he bought was straight instead of curved. It needed a curve to fit the bow of the hood. He rewired it to the old wiring and it still did not work. But he seemed very professional, he was in and out and cleaned up after himself.

My washer was throwing out something black and we thought it was oil. But it turned out that the inside of the washer and around the drum were really dirty. So the tech assured us to clean it really well and it should be fine. So it was more like a lesson learned kind of experience versus him has actually fixing anything. But it was still worth the $100 I paid for the tech to come out. I took the washer apart and cleaned it out. He showed me how to do it. And we have not had any issues with the staining of the clothes. We've also been able to wash the clothes over and get most of the stains out of the other clothing.
The claims process was pretty quick, though it would have been quicker had I been home, but I was in the mountains when the tech called me. So there was poor communication, because I lost the call in the mountains. But other than that, AHS was great and I hope that I continue to have good service with them. If I had family members that bought a home recently, I would push for them to use AHS as their home warranty for their appliances.

I called American Home Shield for my air conditioner. I had this pest control company put some mesh around on the back for some rooms when getting in the house and they put some in on the pipes, so that was a legitimate complaint for the contractor. I chiseled it out and got it all cleared. Then the thermostat wire was broken. The tech said that one of the rodents evidently ate one of the wires, so that was a pre-existing condition and he couldn’t fix it, which wasn’t true because I started the program on September 11th and it wasn't until the middle of October that my air conditioning broke down. I wasn't too happy about that.
American Home Shield said that if they could get another contractor, I'd have to pay another $100. If they had the same results, I'd still have to pay the next extra $100. So, my air conditioning is still not fixed and I’m alone. I’d like them to fix it. I don’t see where they have a right to say it was a pre-existing condition when it clearly was not. Now, I got to get another contractor on my own to come in and fix it, which is going to cost me a lot more than the $100 that I would have to pay with American Home Shield.

I am totally unsatisfied with AHS. First of all, I asked them to come out and do a dishwasher that does not clean my dishes. I've proved that to them by washing them and showing them that the grease was still on them. I paid $75 for that. They looked at it and did something that made it still not clean any of the dishes on the top rack. AHS got another person to come out. He said it probably needs a part or a new dishwasher.
When I called American Home Shield yesterday about the third time, they said that the second person that came out from GE did not give a report. They couldn't come out until the report came back from them, which is not my fault. They said they would reach out to GE and get back to me. But, they couldn't reach GE. I haven't heard back from them.
I also had a washing machine claim. I had them come out and they made me pay more than $75 for a washing machine. I had to pay $85, which was not anywhere in the contract. It only said $75. The tech never filed a report either from Sears. He contacted them via email because they wouldn't answer their phone to do the report. The Sears tech told me that it's meant to leak. That was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. He showed me, “Here’s where this water is. This is the overflow.” At that point, I was dealing with some medical problems with my husband, so I couldn't fight with him right then and there.
I called him back and I said I need a second opinion. He said, “If there's a second opinion and they come out and say the same thing, it'll cost you another $75.” I said I don't want to send in another $75 because it's ridiculous. I don't want the same guy coming back to me and telling me that I have to buy a pan to put under my washing machine because it leaks. I never heard of that. I called another company that had nothing to do with AHS, somebody that knows Maytag. They said they had never heard of that in their life.
I also had a guy have to come out and clean my furnace, and they told me I had carbon monoxide leaking. I had AHS's techs come here for another $75. Now, I have spent 75, 75, and 85 and that guy told me, “It's not really that bad. There's nothing we can do.” I have paid AHS and all I've had is a runaround and no one has fixed anything.

I've been with American Home Shield for 35 years and in the last four years, it has been bad. I'm dissatisfied with them. They are fast to take our co-pay, but they are not fast getting the contractors out to us. When the dryer vent went out, they wanted to do a video feedback to talk to me about the dryer vent. I just wanted the heat element fixed. Also, my sewer got blocked and they could only do what is under the house. They don't go to the street. So, they sent a guy out, he tried to get me to buy $10,000 for the sewer repair. I called the Sewer District in our location and they said I had a block from one net to another, and I ended up paying $1,200.
The air conditioner needed to be replaced for the last four years. I had to pay for Freon every year when contractors come out and service. Freon is now illegal in California. I don't even know how they are servicing it. I talked to the air conditioning people and they said, “Your air conditioner almost has to blow up before American Home Shield will cover it.”
AHS gets contractors who have no experience. They pay so lousily that the only contractors that will work with them are brand-new contractors who have very little experience. If it wasn't for the fact that Fidelity wouldn't cover the air conditioner now because we know it's using Freon, I would switch and get rid of them. I have a few pieces of property. So, the one on Raj court, I'm not going to renew with them. Do not buy AHS' products.

The person before them that worked on my refrigerator was not good though. He was out here three times. Finally, I requested somebody else to come. Sometimes I get people that come here and I pay the $75 and they can't do anything. Then I'm just out $75. They should let us know ahead of time and not charge unless they actually do something. That's very frustrating when someone says, "That's not our problem. We don't cover that because it's hit by lightning or something."
I'm thinking of dropping AHS when they come back around in January when I'm up. Because I pay $800 a year and I'm lucky if they come out once or twice. I could pay $800 and buy a new dishwasher or put it towards a brand new refrigerator. It doesn't make sense sometimes. They don't do anything for me. I have no problem replacing them with a different company if I feel that I have no attachment to them.

It's a better deal to be insured than to be having to bear a $2,000 water heater. Recently, Price Right Plumbing came for the water heater. The pipe leaked. The plumber checked everything on it said everything was fine. He was very polite and apologized that he couldn't figure out where the leak is coming from. He was there to look at the water heater and it would have had to be another ticket in for a water leak.
Also, I had one or two incidents where it took ages for things to get done. It was during covid and people were very reluctant to go into people's homes. But a better follow up would have been better because I had to be proactive and make the calls when there is another technician coming out and I didn't hear anything back from American Home Shield.

We also replaced our range about a year ago and for that claim, it would take me multiple hours on the phone sometimes and it took 17 hours to get something done. She was thorough and she explained things as she went. She fixed the issue and I had heat the very same day. I only waited a day or two, which wasn't long. With a different home warranty I had before, I waited a week.
When making a claim to American Home Shield, you just go online. But I'm older so I like to call. Their rep explained things and it wasn't cumbersome. She walked me through it and explained what coverage I would have as well as when the contractor would be out. If I had questions, they gave me their information. They sent me an email to follow up to let me know if someone had been assigned. I could always reach someone.
American Home Shield is reputable and they're a popular home warranty company. They work with contractors and that was a big thing for me. I always like who they sent out. Before, it wasn't an option to have my own person. American Home Shield could have been more money. Despite that, I probably would’ve still switched over because of the flexibility that they have that other companies don't have. Also, I pay half of what I was paying as far as my monthly payment. I was impressed.

American Home Shield has been great when I’ve had to use it so I’m satisfied. The response time to approve my claims has been quick and with the exception of one vendor, for the couple of years that I've had the service, every vendor has been worthy. They have done a good job. So, I'm happy with that as well. Airmax Heating and Cooling was one of the good ones. They were quick and solved my problems.

We've been happy with AHS. The people that they sent out have always been very professional, friendly and helpful. It's been good to have, in case something big happened. We had somebody for the dryer and then somebody for the toilet. The toilet, I knew what was wrong with it but just didn't wanna have to take the whole thing apart. He fixed it, looked at it in five minutes, and it was done, which saved us a couple of hours. We would have had to purchase a whole inside where he just put in the gasket that it needed. But at least it got fixed.

American Home Shield was very responsive. But in my last incident that happened on October the 12th with the hot water heater, it took over two and a half weeks to get the hot water heater replaced. That was almost three weeks with cold water. Also, I got some hardwood floor damage from the hot water heater leaking. I was really frustrated because two days into it, I asked if I could purchase a hot water heater and American Home Shield could do a buy-out. They said that was not an option and that they found a contractor that could order one. I kept calling every two or three days to get an update. A little bit less than two weeks in, I was told I could do what I initially suggested. I said, "I waited two weeks. I might as well just wait for you guys to get one now. It’s useless now.”
The contractor stayed in communication with me. Whenever I called and I got an update, they were honest with how long it was gonna take. They called me to reschedule if the hot water heater didn't come in. I am enjoying my service with American Home Shield. It is beneficial because they replaced my hot water heater. They have been great to me because I've been with them for years. The service turnaround is normally very quick. I had a washer go out in September and they authorized a replacement right off the bat.

So far, I like American Home Shield. I found it convenient. The only thing we've done so far is rekey the locks, but it was fast and easy. We went to the website, chose a date then somebody emailed me with Rekey. That was decent. We're a bit remote here so there are very few dates to choose from, but it was fine.

I had a leak in the ceiling. I called AHS and somebody made the appointment over the phone. The experience with the rep was good. The techs that came were quick, efficient and friendly. It was my first time using AHS. It was quick and very helpful. Others should get AHS. Because with not knowing what was going on with the house, to have somebody that can easily point it out without you making a bunch of calls and research in places, it's a good approach to take.

From day one, the tech called and said I could get my house rekeyed. I asked if it was for free and they said there would be no charge at all as it comes with my home warranty. So, I got out there and he did it. Then he sent me a bill for $75. But I thought it was free. Then I called the plumber as the plumbing was clogged. The guy came out and he didn't have the right tools. Then I called the home warranty and I asked what I paid for a guy to come out here when he didn't do anything. He was also saying that the repair was not covered while AHS was saying that it was.
I told them that they needed to get someone out here but they just goofed around and I didn't have time for that. So, I had to pay 600 bucks out of my own pocket because the home warranty couldn't get their head out of their you know what. Then I had to argue with them forever that I wanted my $75 back for sending me a guy that wasn't prepared or had no a clue what was going on.
Then I called for the air conditioner and this was where it was all screwed up. The guy came out and said it was just dirty. But if it was dirty, it may mess up something and it may break our air conditioner. I said that didn't make sense. Why would he offer to clean it if he was going to break it. Then he said that he just did one and it broke right away. He also said that I needed some Freon and I told him to let me talk to my home warranty and see what they say because he was trying to charge me on services that he should have had to go through the warranty first.
When I went back out there, he put two screws back on but didn't put back half the screws that he took off. So the air conditioner was in pieces and the door fell off because he didn't put it back properly. I was calling the home warranty and told them that there was something wrong and that the guy didn't know what he was doing. I told them that they needed to send someone else out here to fix it. But 95% of their people are from the Philippines. They can speak in really good English, but they have no comprehension on what you're telling them. They're just so robotic and they read off a script. It's so bad. They’re really nice people but they don't understand besides what is on their script.
AHS also told me that they wouldn't charge me for the service if they sent out another tech because it was a second opinion. But for my air conditioner, every time someone came out, I was missing more parts and I had a different diagnosis seven times. I had one company come out three times and every one of their technicians gave a different diagnosis. And every time someone came out, they left it in pieces and in even worse condition. When the second to last people came out, they left all the caps off of the refrigerant tanks. Then, one company came out and said the couldn't submit the report because I needed to do a request for the heater. But I told them it was all one unit. But they said I needed to do a request to have the ductwork tech come out to have the ductwork reviewed. I then paid another $75 even though I didn't request for the service.
The techs started inspecting the whole house and trying to charge me all these things. And the home warranty told me that I needed to do this and this. It was costing me and it was a giant mess. They just started trying to rip me off again and they took me for $300. But it was supposed to get in the 30s tonight, and I have no heater or air conditioner. It's all busted. One of the companies turned it off and said it was unsafe to run. But one company came out and said it was perfectly fine. Then he said that someone needed to come out here and turn this thing back on and fix it. And someone needed to come out here and put all the screws back in. The guy came out and put the screws back in, but he took them out of other spots of the air conditioner. Now the whole air conditioner is falling off the main electrical panel because there are no screws in it.
My experience was garbage and I'm still trying to get my $300 back but no one's going to give me my money back. And I must have spent 15 hours on the phone with AHS, going through agent to agent to agent. I also asked several times to send me to the cancellation department and this has taken over three months. But I've been told I couldn't cancel my policy. I was told everything and no one would do what I would ask. Then, I went on the Facebook thing and they deleted all the comments on their warranty because they were all bad. They'd make a post and everybody would start trashing the company, but they would delete them all. They got probably so many complaints, they stopped answering stuff through their private messaging on social media. They're a crooked company and their contractors are crooks.

American Home Shield is a good service. I recommended it to several people in the past. They got good coverage and reliable contractors. I had issues with two outdoor faucets and a washer drain pluggage. One faucet needed a new seal. It was leaking. The other faucet needed a retaining bolt because you're able to bring the spigot all the way out and then plug it. It comes apart from the faucet. I watched the tech when he was here, and he walked through what he was doing and what he did to fix it. He said he was going to reach out about one faucet with the retaining bolt because that issue has not been resolved and he needed to contact AHS to see how they wanted to handle it.

I was upset for a while because I had a situation going on with my furnace. AHS was trying to say that it was not normal wear and tear and that they were not going to fix it. So, I had to call and I was on the phone for over an hour explaining to them it wasn't fair and they had been doing this and doing that for this long. But they had basically closed down my order and and said there's nothing else they could do. I had to go buy a air conditioner. I found a company myself and got my own second opinion. I then called AHS again a month and a half later. When I told them about it and let them know everything about my situation, that was when they said that the repair would be on them. This time, they would send their techs out for a second opinion. I talked to the right person and got me some help. But the other person who I was trying to talk to before wasn't good help.
When their second opinion came out, he came to tell me that the people that they had come out all those times put the wrong part in my furnace. He repaired and fixed that part, and everything is fine now. His name was Robert and l loved him. He really got to the problem as soon as possible and see what was going on.But I had to go through a whole lot. At the time, AHS was trying to completely block me out and I was about to cancel the warranty. But that was the first thing that that ever happened. Everything else I got from AHS was good. I had some service with a pipe with my toilet and they did that and I also got my faucet replaced in my kitchen.

Climate Control Heating and Air was out because the furnace wouldn't fire. It was throwing a code. The inducer motor seized up but I don't feel how it was addressed should have been the long-term solution for it. If it seized up, spraying WD-40 into it isn't going to solve it. It may happen again. I feel like it should be replaced. If you paid somebody $100 to come out and spray a couple of shots of WD-40 into your furnace, you'd be a little upset. Also, my husband told me they weren't fully stocked with their new van. If they're going out on a service call, they should have everything. The technician asked if we had WD-40 that he could spray in there. I would have given it to him if he needed it, but that was something I was paying for. They should have that. Also, if I'm paying for this, a couple of shots in the motor to make it turn again but for how long? In three months, am I going to have to pay another $100 to have them come out and replace this motor this time?
It was Tuesday when they came out and on Wednesday, I had called in to American Home Shield. I brought my concern to them about that. I told them everything that had gone on when the Climate Control was here. They were here for five minutes. I told the rep at American Home Shield, "I feel like the piece should be replaced, not just sprayed with WD-40." The rep told me there was no submission yet from Climate Control so they can't address any of my concerns yet. I also had Climate Control come out last summer and they did a repair on my air conditioner outside. The capacitor went bad. It was a faulty part that they had put in then they had to come out and put another one in. It must have been a bad part that they had to come out again because it continued to happen.
The people themselves are great. It's like a mom-and-pop shop compared to the big name heating and cooling companies. That doesn't bother me, but there are little things that bothered me about it that should have been done differently. I don't know if it would have been done differently if it was somebody else. But when they were out here last summer for the air conditioner, they had to take the back panel of the air conditioner off outside, and there were two screws that weren't put in that were laying on the ground after I went out so the panel wasn't even put on correctly. I picked them up and I put them on myself. I definitely do recommend American Home Shield. I just wish that my experiences with Climate Control and how things are going with them would be better.

American Home Shield's claims process is somewhat automated when I'm using the phone but they get back to me pretty quickly. I've done it four times over the last four years and I've not really had any problems with them. In general, the service companies that they use in my area and from out of town, but they're all extremely good and professional. In fact, that's one of their strengths and I've not had any issues with any of their contractors. The only problem is that it takes about a week to 10 days from the time I call an appliance issue in to the time I get it fixed. It takes a couple of days for them to schedule the initial service call and the variable is the parts. These companies do not stock any parts, so they have to order parts and that can take anywhere from a week to three weeks.
Most of the things that I've had to get repaired are either appliances that are not completely broken, so they're still usable in its mode. But the exception of that is the washer and dryer. For that one, the total time from initial call to final completion was a little long. It's very old and and at this point, they probably paid more money to fix it than to have replaced it. But it's always a sunk cost analysis, that they can't look at what they've already put into it. It's what's the next fix. But they pretty much have replaced every moving part in the dryer and the outside is getting kind of beat up. So, they keep things running to the point where they cannot probably get parts.
The last service I had was just a couple of days ago and the tech was very nice. He even helped clean up behind the refrigerator and some of it wasn't even his doing. But we were in the midst of cleaning up because some defrosted water had gotten down there, so we were cleaning up the defrosted water. But at the same time, he was picking up all the trash that everybody had behind the refrigerator, which you never know about.

The tech that came in was very knowledgeable. It didn't take any time for him to assess what needed to be done and had the issue fixed in less than 10 minutes. I'm happy to have American Home Shield and I just set up my renewal contract for them to extend the policy. I don't see myself having any home without having American Home Shield as my warranty company. But from a customer standpoint, it would be more beneficial if they try to add a little bit more clarity around the covered and non-covered options. Some things are a little bit vague and that leaves a technician to come out, make an assessment, submit it then it gets denied for not being a covered service. If some of us knew the services were not covered, we probably wouldn't call the home warranty company in the first place and end up spending that $75 fee for the technician to come out to do an evaluation.

I have a French door with the bottom freezer, and I was having leaks from the bottom freezer in which there was slab of ice that formed every few days. The tech looked at it and realized that the door was not attached properly. It wasn't secure on one side, so it never sealed completely, which is why ice was able to form. He he defrosted the ice with a blower, cleaned it all out, took the ice out, secured the drawer on the side, and it's been working great ever since.
I have looked at other coverages, like Sears Home Services, and I'm not too happy with the customer service. But American Home Shield, every time I reached out to them, I've gotten nothing but excellent service. They respond quickly and the person comes out within 24 to 48 hours. Usually, they are able to diagnose it quickly, and sometimes, they are able to diagnose before they get here.
The first person that American Home Shield assigned for my refrigerator did not do the LG French doors. Within 24 hours, as soon as they found out that they didn't do it, they were able to come back and say, “Hey, we got somebody else for you.” Customer service is number one for me and I have recommended AHS to family members over the past week, seven of them. I liked the idea that for 100 bucks, you can get almost anything fixed with American Home Shield. But that didn't happen with our refrigerator. I'm really disappointed with that. We had a refrigerator that went out a couple of weeks ago. The water line froze in the door. The technician tried to get it unplugged, but there was a burst in the tubing in there. He called us back, and it would need a new door on. But then, they don't make the refrigerator anymore. So they said, “You’d have to replace the refrigerator.” We got the new refrigerator today, but American Home Shield only gave us 1,100 bucks for it. I didn’t realize what it cost to replace that refrigerator with the same quality one. It was 2,900 bucks. I’m very unhappy with the money we pay, the amount American Home Shield gave us wouldn’t cover anything close to the refrigerator that we had.
I’m okay with American Home Shield. But if you have a plumbing leak, you can't get 24/7 service because of the way they have it set up locally here. The plumbing company won't call you back. I had a problem on Sunday and I had to pay somebody else to come out and deal with it because no one called me back. Then on Monday, the plumbing company called me. I asked them, “Why didn’t you call over the weekend?” They said, “Oh, well that’s not our normal business hours.” That didn’t do me any good at all. It cost me 500 bucks.

I love AHS. It worked out well for me. It's nice to not have to worry about finding a plumber or an electrician. It's convenient. I had an electrician come over here one time because I had a noise that was coming from the vent on my air conditioner. We thought something went wrong with the air condition unit. The tech came and said, "Nah. Because your daughter's bed’s pushed up against the vent in the other room, so it was causing more suction as a result on the one in our room and it was making this loud noise. That's all it is."
A lot of times, I think AHS should do a little bit of research into these people. They're not trying to hire somebody off the street that is doing the work. And somebody's insured and that gives me a little bit more comfort too, because I know a lot of times when I call somebody, I don't ever ask that question 'cause I don't really think about it. Then hindsight being 20/20, if something was to happen, I would be stuck with having to pay extra because somebody didn't do the work right. But I won’t ever get rid of AHS.
I had this one guy one time that never came up and showed up for service. But then I never got my $75 back. I called American Home Shield about it and the money had already gone to this guy. That was one situation where I was like, “What do you do in a situation like that?” Because if they don't come out, you're not recouping that money. But that only happened to me one time.

We had toilets that were leaking and the seals were shot on all three of our toilets. The repair guys were able to get here the next day and they were awesome. They were so much better that the first ones that American Home Shield assigned to us. They never called us until late that night, even though AHS expedited it to an emergency because we had water running constantly. It was a Wednesday but they couldn't get to us till Monday. So when I called back, AHS got ahold of Nine Lines and they were out here the next morning.
For the most part, the claims process is easy. The hardest thing is when we've got something that needs to be expedited, whether it's running water or the air conditioning is out. Sometimes they would say that they would get to us within the next 24 or 48 hours. Then having to get it expedited can sometimes take a while. We had that a couple times. I usually ask to speak to a supervisor but it's a little more hassle in that respect. We've had things where it took almost a week to get anybody out here to try to fix it and that's frustrating. One time we had the freezer and the refrigerator go out and it took four days, and we lost everything in the freezer.
People should go with AHS and get a homeowner's warranty. It might seem a little costly but in the long run, all you need is one major claim and it pays for itself. We've paid more than the claims have ever been but it's awesome. We had a refrigerator completely go out and it couldn't be repaired, and AHS replaced it. We couldn't get the refrigerator just like we had and we had to pay extra but they reimbursed up to their set amount. One big thing that AHS can improve on is if they've got someone that has high end appliances and they have a receipt showing how much they paid for it, it'd be nice if they would replace it at that cost instead of having to take a much lower grade appliance or pay the difference. On some things, they have a maximum and that's fine. I understand that.
People should research how the warranty works with things such as a furnace or air conditioner. Ours went out completely and needed to be replaced but AHS depreciated it down to where they wouldn't pay anything for a new one. The old one was 20 plus years old and by the time they got through depreciating it, they were only gonna pay $200 on a 10,000 HVAC system. Other than that, American Home Shield has been great. I found out that other homeowner's warranties didn't depreciate but since we've been with AHS for so long, I wouldn't change anything. For the most part, they’ve been great.

But when we switched over to American Home Shield, all I had to do was log into a website, say that I've got this appliance issue. and the guy came out. It was very prompt. He looked at everything, figured out what needed to be ordered, then he came back and put the control board and another component in. Both of the light bulbs were burned out and I thought that I had to unscrew the screws. But the screws weren't for the glass that goes over it. So, he was very patient and super sweet. He explained it to me and showed me how to replace my lightbulbs. He also got the icemaker working again. And all was said and done in a week's time, which was fairly quick.
It's also nice that I don't have to look for c check to be able to pay a lot of the other contractors with American Home Shield. They would send me an invoice through their website and just like any online purchase, I would log in and pay my bill. So far, we have used three different companies and I would refer American Home Shield, hands down, every time. It’s just so much easier with them and it's like comparing apples and oranges. Theirs is just way better.

It was down the weekend that I was trying to call for this repair. I filed a complaint without logging into my account. Then, I got a phone call from American Home Shield trying to get in contact with me about who would be coming out and it was followed up with an email. When Grade A Plumbing left, they had said that we would be hearing from American Home Shield and that they would order the new water heater. The reality is American Home Shield closes out that claim once they show up. There was some confusion there because I didn't know that. I was wondering why was my claim closed but I didn't have a water heater yet. But everything worked out fine and we had the water heater put in last week. Grade A Plumbing was always there when they were supposed to be there. They were friendly and very helpful. In fact, we have another issue that we just opened another claim for and they are coming out again today for that.

When I put the wrench underneath there to turn the garbage disposal to see if anything was stuck in it, it would turn and then I would push the reset button and it would go up and fall back down. Then it would work for a few seconds and make a funny sound and just completely cut off. So I checked the wiring and the wiring was fine. I knew that the garbage disposal had an issue and when the guy came out, he looked at it and said that the garbage disposal needed to be replaced. Then they put a new garbage disposal in and everything's been working fine since. My wife was happy with what they did and he explained things to her. When our daughter purchased the house, we told her to get AHS, too. And in all of our houses, we ended up getting American Home Shield.

Appliance Magic worked on my refrigerator that stopped cooling. I called in Friday, and they came Monday. The technician did good. As soon as he looked at it, he knew what it was, and he fixed it. However, when you call AHS, it's a long line chain to get through. Then when you go on the website, they ask you the same questions. If I already had an appliance serviced before, they should have the make and model of the appliance keyed in. They had already worked on the refrigerator about five times. I keep repeating and have to go look for the serial number.

We had one decent experience and one horrible experience with American Home Shield. Our air conditioner went out at the beginning of June, and it didn't get fixed until the end of September. I got the runaround every time I called. There were times where I called and had to be on hold. Once, it was four hours trying to figure out what the issue was. At first, they didn't order the right part. Then once they did, it was backordered. The air conditioning company that we were working with told me that if they could order it, they would have it within a week. But American Home Shield insisted on using theirs, probably because it's cheaper. It gets over 100 degrees where we live and we went the whole summer with no air conditioning.
It's really hard to get ahold of anyone that can help at American Home Shield. When I call customer service, all they do is tell me that they're sorry, but they can't offer me any explanation or tell me when the part would be there. They would offer to transfer me to the parts department then I would be on hold. Their departments don't talk to each other. Their rep can't just call the parts department, they only email each other. It seems ridiculous that in the year 2021, they don't have better systems to communicate with their departments. American Home Shield could have better customer service and provide answers instead of just saying they're sorry.
Finally, what got it done was I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau and our state attorney general's office. As soon as I had received the confirmation emails for both of those, within a week, all of a sudden, the part was here. It shouldn't take customers having to do that. American Home Shield said that they would refund my $75 fee that we had to pay to have someone come out but they never did that. A month and a half into waiting, they said they would reimburse me for buying fans for our house. We had already purchased fans and I didn't save the receipts. They said they wouldn't give me the reimbursement without the receipts. The way that they do business seem very backwards.

My refrigerator went out on me. The technicians that came were very professional. I've got lots of things repaired with AHS. The worst part is they don't work weekends, which I can't understand at all. That is awful. The best part is that the cost is at a fixed price, they're very efficient, and they definitely contact you to make an appointment. So, they're very good and save you money. Overall, it's been a long time that I've had AHS and they've been excellent service. I recommend others to get American Home Shield if they're a homeowner, especially if they're gonna own their home. For appliance repair, it can get repaired at a good cost.

The electrical panel was buzzing. It went from one outlet not working to six outlets and they were also buzzing. When I metered it out, the voltages were all over the place. The tech assessed that the ground fault circuit isolators were bad for two sides of the house and he replaced those. He checked the panel also to make sure that there was no corrosion and that there was nothing with the circuit breakers causing the issue. It was determined that it was the GFCI that was the problem and he fixed that. He did a really good job.
Everything's great now. My wife can use her curling iron in the bathroom and we're not popping the circuit breaker or the GFCI. The tech told me that they have a 30-day warranty on their service. So if something else pops up or goes haywire, to just call them back and then they'll come back out and take care of it. Having AHS is amazing. This is the third time we've had to call them and it's been a great experience every time. It's well worth it.

Drew's Pump & Plumbing came out and replaced our hot water heater. The process with AHS was very efficient. He called us the same day. Usually, we wind up calling whoever's the contractor. But this time, he called us a few hours after we had filed the claim online and he explained that he couldn't get here before Thursday, which was two days later. But that was not an issue. He came out Friday morning and had the new hot water heater with him and he installed it and it's been working fine. He was a very nice man to deal with. Very gracious and very accommodating. I like that AHS finds a contractor and that we don't have to haggle about rates and their service is usually prompt.

Recently, I had a blocked and leaky garbage disposal unit. The techs replaced it and everything went fine. AHS has done a good job and I've gotten good referrals. The contractors they've sent out have been competent. They have gotten the job done at a reasonable cost. Also, AHS has gotten a lot better at getting their service providers out in a timely manner. The downside is that they want to put a band-aid on things. Every other summer for six years, our air conditioning unit would go out in July. We're in Arizona and we'd be without AC for a week while the other busy AC repairman would get around to us and they would fix it. All they would do is change the lube, put some Freon or change a bearing.
Finally, last summer, I went outside of AHS and hired an air conditioning company to put in a new unit. They were fabulous. Our AC went out and in the afternoon, I called. At seven o'clock at night, they called me back and had somebody on-site at 7:00 am the next day and fixed the unit. Within a week, they had a brand new unit put in and tuned up. AHS doesn't pay their vendors enough so the vendors don't go the extra mile. They just do the minimum to keep you going.
A home warranty is a little bit like crop insurance. Either you get it and have it all the time or you don't do it. I went 10 years with no claims and then my whole AC unit shot craps. So, I had an $8,000 replacement of the air handler and all that stuff. I got it all done for 500 bucks because I had the home warranty. Instead of nickel and diming me, the whole thing blew up so they had to replace it. I'm close to breaking even between my premiums and the costs that they've saved me over the years.
You have to make a decision early on whether you wanna have the security of having a number you can call about any kind of repair problem and have a company that has contacts and resources. The home warranty saves you from looking for vendors too. If a vendor has a contract with them, they must be at least minimally competent. They won't necessarily be the best but at least they're good enough that American Home Shield decided to contract with them. I can’t say that everybody they’ve ever sent out here met that standard, but most of the time, they've been okay.

I’ve only had one claim with American Home Shield and the setup was a simple and easy process. I appreciate that. My dad spoke with someone prior to my involvement to ask a few questions and that went well, too. I was impressed with how quickly a service tech was sent out as well. It was a plumbing issue and the tech was great. He was professional, very timely and easy to work with. Due to circumstances, I wasn't able to have the home inspected till after the purchase. We were trying to move quickly on the sale so it was nice to know that I could purchase the warranty. A couple of issues weren't covered by the warranty but it's nice to know that the ones that we found could be taken care of. It gives you a little bit of peace of mind that you're not going to be responsible for some unexpected middle of the night repairs or things that you weren't planning on. With everything else going on with moving into a home, it was comforting. So, that was helpful.

American Home Shield has been excellent but since the pandemic, I've been having problems trying to get the company that has been in my house several times. My washer was making noises about a week and a half ago. I called American Home Shield and made a work order. The contractor came to my house and repaired my washer. HAR Appliance Repair's Tony has been to my house several times. He's a very personal person and he takes his time. He tries to fit in my appointment that day and he does excellent work. He's very knowledgeable about the different appliances.
Then, today I called because I have another appliance that was not working correctly. When I called to request the same company, American Home Shield said that they don't have them on their list. But their tech just came to my house a week and a half ago. I have the tech's personal number so I called him and he couldn't understand that either. I understand the pandemic was crazy for American Home Shield and I get it. But today, I was unsatisfied with them and the service I got. I was really thinking about going to another home warranty company.

The contractor came in very quickly, diagnosed it, repaired the part and bounced. They were good. American Home Shield's customer service changed to the point where everything's automated. It's simple. And we pay beforehand now instead of paying on the back end. It's good.

I had two toilets that were both functioning incorrectly. One had a bad flush valve and the other one had a bad fill valve. Jacobs Plumbing came out and replaced the components within the toilet that needed repair and took care of the problem. As long as it's a fairly clear-cut covered repair issue, the claim process with AHS has been very straightforward.
However, I have some electrical work that I still don't have actually done, which is a requirement to move a low-level electrical line. They apparently don't cover any of the low voltage electrical lines. I'm trying to engage a contractor for that on my own and it’s been less than successful. Therefore, I still have a line running around the outside edges of my living room. I had one electrician come out, who had previously done some work for me through American Home Shield, only to find out that he does not do low voltage lines. I found another one, but then something happened on their end, and they were not able to complete the work. I ran out of energy and time at that point. Hoping to get that done sometime this winter.

So far, so good. AHS has been responsive to my requests. I have them for my home and for my other place up in Palmdale. They were used twice up in Palmdale and the tenants were happy with the people that came out to do the repairs for their issues. Here, I had one claim and the contractor was quick and called me to schedule the appointment. I was happy with that. When the technician came out the first time for the washing machine that kept stopping, he thought he had fixed it, but it was not fixed. I kept getting an error message. Another guy came out and replaced the memory board. When they were here, it worked right. When they left, it stopped working again so I had them come back out. It's working fine now.

We had two faucets that were leaky and a shower that needed to be redone. The claim process is pretty simple with American Home Shield. The only hard thing is getting a hold of a person if you have an issue. It would take sometimes an hour to talk to a person. We had an issue where we were waiting to hear back and it ended up that our separate fridge and freezer wasn't covered even though they told me when we started with them that it would be. The agent didn't know and I didn't read the contract that it wasn't covered. So, that was a misunderstanding.
But their contractor Aladdin's Plumbing was quick and they were amazing. They have to get some parts so they're coming back but everything they did was great. As far as how fast everything that's automated goes, it's flawless and AHS does a great job with that. The hard part, is when you do hit a hiccup where it’s like, “Oh, is this covered? Is it not?” We had paid for two different plumbing guys to come out before they told us it wasn't covered. Those guys should know the minute they walk in and say, “This is your plan. American Home Shield doesn't cover this."
There could be a searchable database where they can see what is covered when they're coming so they don't waste their time or our time. That would make it easier for their contractors. If we have a problem that American Home Shield doesn't cover, they want us to come to them for business. But if they're not well supported by American Home Shield, then we get frustrated with them and it's really not even their fault.
