I had a toilet that was stopped up and a leaky faucet. The contractor fixed both but the communication was what bothered me. It seemed like I was pursuing them to do a follow up because nobody was calling me. When the plumber came, he fixed the toilet off the top. The faucet was a little bit more of an issue because he didn't know why it was leaking. When he figured it out, he had to get the part. He said as soon as he had the part, he would come back and fix it. For two weeks, I was the one calling asking them if they were coming back.
When American Home Shield has somebody coming out to your house, they don't set up the appointment for you. You have to call that contractor and set up the appointment yourself. Since I knew that already and when I called American Home Shield and was put on hold, I thought of going ahead and calling the plumbing company myself. When I called them, they said, "The part came in. We'll go ahead and send the plumber out to your house."
Once that call was complete, not only did the plumbing company sent me an email saying my appointment had been set up but also all of a sudden American Home Shield sent the same text and email saying somebody was coming out to my house to fix the issue. But if I hadn't called, I wouldn't have heard from anybody. American Home Shield failed me in that aspect. Also, when I called, they said the service was closed out. That was where American Home Shield slacked with me because they should have kept the call open and communicated with me to make me feel that I have not been forgotten. It shouldn't be closed out because the faucet wasn't fixed.

I have dealt with American Home Shield for years and they've been good to me. I appreciate their communication and would recommend them. They save me the trouble ‘cause I don't have to go and research people. They have done that part, so I can trust that they're gonna send a quality and knowledgeable person out, and somebody that’s been vetted. I've had electrical issues, a water heater issue, and an AC issue. It looked like a car that's been in an accident a thousand times, but they still made it work.
Sevier Climate Control came out when the house wasn’t cooling off. They were really good about communicating. I asked them to please give me an hour cushion so I could get to the house, and they did. I got a text message as well as an email. The guy who came out was fairly friendly. He looked at the unit and said it was something with the circuit board. He said we had to order the part but he made it come on. He handled his business and explained everything to me. Within a week, we got the part in, he came back, put the part in, and we were good. The only issue I've had was for the heater issue where I want them to get the whole unit replaced without replacing the one part that's broken. But it's gonna have to be what it is until the other parts break.

I'm very unsatisfied with the service and I'm unsatisfied with the company. The service is lousy. You can't even get in contact with the company that American Home Shield is using to supposedly come out and look at the customer's issue. I've called over there a couple of times. My other complaint is one of the young ladies I was speaking to hung up on me.
We put a request in on the 31st of October and it took a week before a repairman showed up. The worst part is he just submitted the paperwork for what was wrong yesterday. Apparently, American Home Shield is not covering my heating and cooling unit so what do I need them for? The slightest problem was a leaky coil and May Heating and Air wanted to charge me for $385 of freon and $1,800 for a motor. Nobody said about a motor. It was just a coil leak. That sounded like they were trying to rip me off. On top of that, every time I called American Home Shield, they said they would escalate. How many times were they gonna escalate something that nobody even went to? I’ve had a bad experience and it’s left a bad taste in my mouth. I am gonna call them and cancel my policy because this ain’t working for me.

Every time we've had an issue or a question, it's always been answered and/or handled. Recently, the toilets were backing up, so there was a clog. When I called, the AHS rep said, "I'll put the service in. Get a tech out there." I asked about how long she thought that would take and she said, "You should probably get a call Saturday, maybe Sunday at the latest." She asked, "Is that okay?" I said, "It's an emergency because we can't really take a shower or do laundry, do anything like that because I'm worried that it's just gonna back up and then cause more damage." She said she'd give me a callback. I said sure. So, she gave me a callback. She called somebody, got ahold of somebody, and had somebody out there Saturday morning.

We had an icemaker problem. They put a new one in, but it didn't work. Then they came out yesterday and put a new one in and it's working now. It made ice last night. The tech was very knowledgeable. I'm very satisfied with AHS. We have two different contracts with them. One, we did our home and another one we did a condo that we purchased.

The techs who came out recently did very well. But they are the only one so far out of all the people that AHS sent that did such a wonderful job. As for American Home Shield themselves, I don't like them. They don't take responsibility when they hire contractors and they push it all on to their customers. The contractors come from them. They call and send them out. So when they don't show up with the part and actually fix the appliance that I ordered to be fixed, they take the money and run. People dealing with AHS should document everything, including who they speak to and when they speak to them, because down the line, they're probably going to need it to file a complaint.

The most recent claim that I had with AHS went very well. It normally doesn't take too long to get a provider or contractor out there. This was three days from the initial claim. The issue was the boiler went bad and I didn't have to pay to replace the whole thing. So, that was a huge benefit. I've had AHS for four years now and we've never had any major issues since we've had them.

Our refrigerator was not cooling or freezing correctly and I can't function without it. I have a very hungry six-year-old and a big husband. We went through the American Home Shield website to make a claim and it was fine. A tech came and replaced the condenser. When he pulled the refrigerator out, he noticed an issue with the ice maker. It hadn't been making ice well for a long time. He fixed both issues. He was very helpful and knowledgeable. He knew what he needed to do. I would recommend American Home Shield but would advise people to call to make sure they get the best rate. My problem is the rate just keeps going up.

I like the service request process of American Home Shield. The only thing that I’m not really used to was I had Sears. They came out and they did maintenance. American Home Shield doesn't do maintenance and I'm probably gonna have to try to find someone that does keep the maintenance up on things. If I had to do this again, I would first ask if the home warranty does maintenance. Also, the tech released the Freon that was in the unit to put some more. I could smell the Freon and I wasn't supposed to. Overall, American Home Shield is good.

I've utilized American Home Shield on a few occasions. When I needed something, I called them. If there is some out of pocket money, it was not as extravagant as if I would have had to absorb it all myself. I had two AC units, one on one side of my house and one on the other side. And I got a furnace in my garage and everything's covered. They've already replaced both units, the control unit and the heat pump on both sides. But it cost me $1,000 because of the recovery of the Freon. They don't have where they recover it and put it back in. You have to pay for the Freon, which isn't covered. In a way it should be part of it because when they were removing it, I didn't have a leak.
We did the recent claim online and set it up. AHS had somebody call me. Murray’s called me within the 48 hours that AHS gives, but I missed the call. I get a lot of spam calls and I didn't recognize the number. When they left a message, I said, "Oh, that was Murray’s." So I called back, and it must have been too late. So they called me the next day, and that was when I called them and lined it up for that Friday and I took the day off, and it worked out.
Murray’s did a great job. They came out and looked at the unit. I knew that they would have to replace it. And when they came out, they got to look at it, sent it back out, and they got to verify that it is bad. Not go by my word. They then turned around, and were there five minutes. They said, "Yup, you need a hot water heater." I got to reschedule another day. That's the only bad part about that. Because I would have had to take another day off from work.
Luckily, it was a Friday, and Murray’s turned around and said, "Nah, we don't work Saturdays or weekend." They called me three times Friday, and by 3 o'clock, they said, "We got the hot water heater, if you want we'll come out Sunday and put it in." They came out Sunday while I was off, and they did it. The service that I got through Murray’s was good.
I've always had a good thing with AHS. But the bad part is when I already know that they would replace it, they come out, and they got to go and do all the research. It takes three weeks to get my new washer and dryer or my hot water heater. They came out on a Friday and they would have ended up scheduling it the following week, some time either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, the following week. And that would have required me to take another day off from work. Other than that, everything went well.
I'm pretty handy for myself. I could have put the hot water heater in myself and it would have cost me just for the hot water heater. And that depends on what I would have got. I could have went to Home Depot. It might have been 400 bucks. It did save me half the money on a hot water heater. I asked Murray’s what they charged to do a hot water heater, and I couldn't believe what they told me what they usually charge not on AHS. It was 2 grand. Get American Home Shield.

I reached over to American Home Shield by phone because I had a specific contractor in their network that I wanted to use, Hornet. I’ve used them over the years and they have been my go-to repair facility for my appliances. American Home Shield outsources their customer service phone calls. The young lady I first dealt with didn't understand me completely nor did she get the proper notes into the file. There were two appliances. There's my refrigerator icemaker and I had some sort of blower motor out on our gas oven. The first lady did not get the gas oven in there so I had reached back over to Hornet to make sure that both items were on the to-do list when they came out. It was not. It took another phone call to American Home Shield to get it straightened out. Eventually, it was fine.
That issue with customer service aside, the process is flawless. I would suggest, however, that instead of having to make an actual phone call to request a specific vendor or a repair service, I should be able to do that online. There ought to be a place for that somewhere in the notes section when you're listing the items that are wrong, the model numbers, or whatever that you could specify. As long as you know a certain contractor is within their network then you can request those guys.

The dryer was not drying, and the contractor took care of it very promptly and well. Most of the time, I've had no problem with American Home Shield. But they could make their management more accessible. When there is a problem, you have to request a management person to call you, and then they have 12 to 48 business hours to contact you. So you're gonna have to wait up to a week before anybody calls you back.

We've been with American Home Shield for about five years and we've had quite a few things. We had some electrical problems. We had a sink that went out in our kitchen and also the InSinkErator went out. The claims process is really easy. I pay 125 and it's fair. 'For the claim regarding my toilet, the technicians were here for two and a half hours working on it. They had to pull the toilets off the ground, reseal them, and do all kinds of stuff. It was a major work. When we had our sink redone in the kitchen, they even let us pick out a sink that we thought we might like. That was a good $500 job. It was the faucet system plus all the work. But we only paid 125 for that. The warranty pays off.
What got us to go with American Home Shield was we had our air conditioner go out and that was a $4,000 bill. At that point, I engaged American Home Shield and got the service going. If we have water heaters go out in the house, we pay $57 a month, which is 600 plus a year. That's worth the comfort of knowing that we don't have to pay a big bill when something hits. American Home Shield has always been very responsive. Whoever's running it and owns it has done a good job.

I'm very happy and satisfied with American Home Shield. But I had a little recent hiccup when the contract expired on November 2nd and I didn't authorize it to be renewed, but it was renewed without my knowledge or permission. I called and spoke with someone and I told them that I'm living on Social Security and I have a lot of medical bills, and I can't afford the new monthly payment that they quoted, even though it was only about $15 more than I had paid. But even that much for me is still kind of a lot of money. The rep told me, "Okay. Well, let me see what I can do." Then she came back on and said that they could do a concession and lower the yearly price by $100 and get it back in the monthly range that I could afford. That was fantastic so I told her to do it. She said she was doing it and then I asked her if she could send me a copy of the new contract. But she said she couldn't and told me to call back in a few days.
I've been calling back for almost three weeks now, and every time I talk to someone, it's something different. But each one of them acknowledges that it shows in the notes that I do have a $100 concession and my monthly payments would be $36.90. They always say, "Well, they're working on it there. It's in billing, they're changing it, they're adjusting it." But so far, I still haven't had a resolution on getting the new contract or seeing it on my customer portal, and it's still showing the old amount and the old monthly payment.
I like that I can order the service at any time 24/7 on my computer immediately. But initially, I didn't like that I can't choose the provider. American Home Shield selected one provider and he came out and did a great job. Then I had another issue with it and they selected another provider. I asked them, "Can't I have the guy who came the first time? He's already familiar with everything, I liked them, and everything's good." But they said, "No." I complained about that. But then, I understand the fairness of the system where they say they want to make sure that all the vendors and providers have an opportunity to get work. They have their own queue system, so I'm not guaranteed to get the same person again. I told them that was fair. So I was kind of okay with that. Everyone who has come out has been really good as far as quality service, coming on time, and good communication. So I'm really pretty happy with everything.

When I go into a contractual agreement with a company I simply want to be treated fairly. Trust me when I tell you this will not happen with AHS. You only deal with people trained to tell you "no" even when they are not honoring their side.

I pay my bill every month with my credit card. For some reason, they weren’t able to process the payment. They called several times and I finally ended up giving them a different credit card and that one didn't process. I had an issue with the water heater and American Home Shield sent out 5 Star Plumbing. They came to my house and made an adjustment for five minutes. After three days, I made a request for a job undone. They said they need to change a certain part. They didn't have that and waited for it for almost 35 days. I said, “I don't care about the volume of parts. I care about my family.” The issue was not the water heater anymore. The issue is my family getting sick. But they didn't care.
The worst thing was when I asked for a recall issue, they scheduled me and said they will come. On that day, I didn't go to work but they never came. They said they didn't have the part yet. They should have notified me. 5 Star Plumbing is the worst contractor. American Home Shield should deal with their contractors. I have the plan with them and I shouldn't have to deal with the contractor. I told American Home Shield I was going to file a lawsuit because my family was going to get sick with what was happening. For how many weeks, they said they were going to escalate the issue. I never stopped calling them. They sent out another contractor, Allstate, and they were good. They did everything. In the end, it took 42 days for my water heater to be fixed. I am very dissatisfied. After the contract is done with American Home Shield, I will never renew.

We had a number of issues with the icemaker ranging from intermittent use of the water, and the intermittent ability for the ice to be generated out of the system. The ice itself was being made fine. The issue was the delivery system through the door. It took a couple of rounds because the contractor thought that part of the fix was in the driver that turns the ice out of the ice bucket. But it turned out that there was a problem with the board, and it was creating a miscommunication from one piece to the other. So we weren't able to get water and weren't routinely able to get ice. It was also inhibiting the closure of the door. But they resolved the issue in its entirety. The ice maker works perfectly now.
The contractor was great. Their turnaround when they had the parts was quick. The woman that called was great. The guy that was here a couple of times was awesome. He told me he replaced the board. I had a refrigerator problem. It never was able to make ice. The people American Home Shield sent out had no knowledge of Monogram GE. So, that was a negative experience. All I got was excuses and three trips that they made, and nothing was resolved. They replaced the icemaker twice. I said the line was leaking. They said, “Oh, no, it's not this and that.” So I got tired of arguing with them. And I found where the leak was later. I live in the middle of nowhere and they don't have any technicians that do GE Monogram. So, it's a waste of money.
I had AHS fix some GFI electrical. The electrical company they sent out knew exactly how to do what was necessary and they did fine. So, my experience was 50% good and 50% bad. I'm not going to ever deal with AHS again. 50% isn't high enough in my book. They should find contractors that have a background in what they are repairing.

The plumber, Chris, who came out a couple of times to look at my toilet and shower was excellent. He was super professional and polite. Plus, the turnaround time was great. The only frustration and concern that I had was based on my experience with having the guy that came out and looked at my dishwasher and my refrigerator. He came out and did the inspection, took pictures of my icebox that was broken in my refrigerator, and gave me the impression that once he submitted the claim, pretty much he would come back with a new part to fix it. So, I was thinking it was going to be fixed.
I paid my $75 service fee, which I know is part of my contract, but I came to find out my claim was denied because apparently, there were some missing pieces and AHS said that that was a part of their exclusion policy. To me, that was not okay because for one, why would the technician give me the impression that all he had to do was submit the claim in order for me to get the part and then it get repaired? I also came to find out that he missed this document. I'm a new homeowner, so I've only lived in the property for a couple of months, and I felt like an exception could have been made. I felt like I paid a service fee for nothing and I would like to make sure that AHS is aware in the future that if their technicians are coming out to do their assessment to determine if something's going to be repaired, they need to truly be honest and not lead a customer on.

We had an issue with the ductwork. We couldn't feel the air coming up. So, American Home Shield assigned it to several people prior to assigning it to Standlee. However, they could never do anything because our ductwork is underneath the house. Although we let American Home Shield know that, they didn't let the contractors know that. So, the first time Standlee's people came out, they didn't let them know that either. The guy tried to go underneath, but he was a bigger guy and said that he would have to send someone else. So, they did. The guy did go under, but he said it looked like there was old ductwork under there and newer ductwork, and because of plumbing he couldn't get to the right area to see the other ductwork. They went around the outside of the house and looked into the vents to see what they can see from those perspectives.
Once they really couldn't do anything, I contacted American Home Shield to let them know that the Standlee guys were not able to resolve the issue and to find out what our next steps were gonna be. The rep could not get ahold of them at the time and said that they would contact them the following business day. I tried to call them on a Friday and they said that they would contact them at that Monday, and then they would let us know. I haven't heard back from anybody yet.
When I could finally get them out here, it was great. But I did have some issues like scheduling the actual appointment for them to come out. Normally, a contractor will call you and say, "Hey, we have these dates and times available, which one can you--?" We have to be home and what they did on several occasions is they texted me a time and a date. I was like, "There's no one gonna be home at that day, that time, so I can't do that time." I tried calling them and finally, someone texted me back and I was able to communicate with them that way, as far as to set up a date. There were at least two dates scheduled that they scheduled according to what they had available, but there was no one that was able to be at my house at that time.
Initially, I was very dissatisfied just in this trying to get it scheduled because it took over a month just because no one would actually call me back. But I felt like they seemed to have done what they could. We've had ductwork done maybe 10 years ago, and those people were able to access the crawl space with no problem, but Standlee wasn't.

American Home Shield's service as far as who they sent out and fixed the stuff was great. My problem is that I need a receipt and a service report but I didn't get it. I called them and they said they sent it. But I didn't get it. After five times calling, they told me that the only thing they can do is mail it and that I will receive it in 7 to 20 days. I have benefited from American Home Shield's services a lot. I'm very impressed with being able to call up or go online, especially go online and just have it set up through that. Bang. It's done. And I can even call the repair people up and say, “Okay. This is my number.” And they would say, “Oh, yeah. It just came in. We'll have someone out there soon.” I've had AHS for a couple of years now because I own rental property. And especially during COVID, it was a little tricky. But once I got through to the person who would send me up with people, it went very smooth. And I could call up and say, “This person isn't any good. Send me someone different,” that day, but the next day, the person would come. If I have anything going wrong in my house appliance-wise, I just say, “I would like Metro to come back out again. Thank you.” And they would say, “Not a problem.”
My broiler wasn't working in my stove and Metro Appliance Service were the first people to be able to fix it. It was so ingenious how they did it, because that part isn't made anymore. But the guy was able to take another part, take it apart, and put it into my part to make it work. It was excellent and fast. I have recommended AHS to a few friends.

I liked AHS. At first, I had an issue when I needed to get my stove replaced. The repair people couldn't find the parts. But it's been replaced and I'm just waiting now for the reimbursement from what I spent. I haven't heard anything though. They should follow up when there is a reimbursement that's supposed to be made, that they did receive the transmission as far as the email that I sent them with my receipt. But I plan to follow up with that on Monday. But other than that, I haven't had a problem. I've been with AHS for a while. I had an electrician come out once and he wasn't as good though. But the follow-up was good. The customer service was good once I get ahold of them. That was a long wait time. But, because of COVID, some of the processes have changed.

Overall, the claims process was fine but getting the parts in could be a little faster. But it has nothing to do with AHS because when they have to order parts, they have to come from God only knows where and there's the shortage. But the work is still being done in a pretty timely fashion. I'm excited that they have been able to service us the way they have. Anything and everything that we've asked them to do, they've done without any problem at all. The contractors have been courteous, timely, and clean when they come in and leave. We're pretty happy with American Home Shield. They are timely. I put in a claim and it’s within five minutes that I get a notification of the receipt of the claim. In less than 20 minutes, I have an idea of who's going to be contacting me regarding the repair. Recently, the board on the oven was malfunctioning whenever we tried to turn it on. At first, it wouldn't reach a temperature then after a short period of time, it would shut off. As the problem progressed, it got to a point where we tried to turn the oven on and it would not stay on. A repairman did an assessment and provided recommendations on what was needed to be done. Based on the results, either repair would be done or we get the option of taking the value of the oven then replacing it. We elected to replace the oven given the timeframe it was going to take to repair it. It seemed quicker to get another oven so we took the value of the oven and paid the difference for it to be replaced.
We did another claim for the microwave and was replaced as well. I've also been getting this request to have my HVAC system tuned up, which I always did. But based on the energy efficiency of the 14 SEER, we ended up replacing the entire HVAC system to a higher sphere. We went out of pocket and replaced that ourselves based on what we learned about the HVAC system.

I really don't like AHS. I still have the same plumbing problem and the only thing that they did was change the faucet and the sink. But apparently, my P-trap, the drain that I've been telling them that is leaking, is still leaking even though the guy tested it. The first guy said there was nothing wrong with it, but when you put the drain in to plug up for you to put water in the sink, that's when it starts leaking all over again. So, I'm going to see if I can find another company. But in the meantime, I'm going to go to Home Depot and see if I can get someone to change the pipe.
All in all, I really don't think that AHS does a good job and I don't think it is the techs that come out, because they're only doing what's on the order. But when you try to explain what's going on with something in your house, that's where the communication is lacking because the guy that came out today said that the notes didn't say anything about my drain. But I've been complaining about the drain ever since I made that first call to AHS. That was one of the other issues I was telling them about other than the faucet and the sink.

I smelled burning plastic and it was coming from the wall behind the stove. So I filed a claim through American Home Shield and an electrical guy came out. He spent 10 seconds at the house and said, "It's not electrical, it's your stove." So I called American Home Shield and they slotted the claim over as not electrical, but for appliance. They assigned it to a company that was booking out two to three weeks. I called back American Home Shield and said that was not going to work for us. So they assigned it to another company, but that company never called me. I called the company and I got a voicemail stating that the owner was out of town and they weren't doing anything for two to three weeks.
I called back American Home Shield and the agent was being really difficult with me and wanted me to pay another deductible in order to slot the claim over to another vendor. The vendor that she slotted it over ended up paying the $100 and asked her to refund the other 100. The tech came out and he was there for about 15 minutes, and checked what it was. The issue was the electrical box in the stove was shorting out. He left and ordered the part. Then a week later, the part came and he installed it. He was smart and knowledgeable. He was great. This whole claim was really confusing. But it was handled as well as it could be.

Our dishwasher was broken, so we got a new dishwasher through American Home Shield. They approved to have the dishwasher installed. There was a problem with the wiring and they approved that also. But we went back and forth for a couple of months. I emailed all the documents from the contractor and from me, and I kept calling. They would tell me that the check was in the mail but it wasn't. It was so frustrating. Finally, I got a check for $185 for the installation, but they did not pay for the $75 wiring which originally they said they were gonna pay for. It was a big hassle and I've never had a hassle with them before. They've always been very good and I've been very happy. I've had them for 23 years, so they must be doing something right.

The technician said they were going to open the claim for 30 days and to let them know if it was leaking again. With American Home Shield, I don't have to shop for the people to do the service. Apparently, they don't cover freezers. I've had to do that on my own. They need to be a little more specific on what they are covering and what they aren't because they say most appliances, and I figured a freezer was an appliance, and they don't pay for that. But I've had good experiences with them other than that. I've had two pool pumps replaced and a lot of different things that they've done. They went by the first take that the plumber gave and they refused to cover that, apparently because there was more cost to it. I ended up doing it on my own because it was an emergency. When it's a small thing, such as a quick fix, American Home Shield is very effective. But when it's costly and it falls within their guidelines, they give me a very hard time. There was a clanking sound when the furnace would ignite. I was concerned that maybe something had come loose. It's a Home Shield furnace that was put in about nine years ago. He was very prompt and pleasant. He came at a reasonable hour. He took a thorough examination of the furnace. So I was pleased with the service call.
I had another tech from J&A come out because I wasn't sure of the state of my air conditioner. It's a very old unit. I spent every summer for the last 15 years in New Mexico. So I don't use my air conditioner. But finally, I was home last summer because of what everyone else is dealing with and the air conditioner wasn't starting. So the tech took a look at it and he told me he couldn't guarantee me anything. Because this air conditioner has been idle for over a decade. But he went out and checked everything.
Some kind of tubing had fallen in between the blades of the fan that turns on the compressor. Once the tech tied that up, the air conditioner started turning again and he said, "I can't guarantee this. This thing is probably 30 years old." But it worked beautifully last summer. So I was very grateful that this fellow from J&A came out. He got it working and I was very, very pleased about that. I will give J&A a very good mark.

Finally, when he didn't come when he was supposed to come, I called AHS. I said that this guy didn’t want to come in the morning and that they gave me a guy that was 40 miles away. I'm a nurse and I work from 11:30 in the morning. So, I needed a morning appointment and there was no way that this guy was gonna make it to my house. He kept trying to say he could come at 12:30 or 1:30.
The person at AHS that I talked to, to tell them the dilemma that I was having with the drain guy that never showed up, was great. I told her that they needed to get me a different guy and she said that they would call him one more time. I said okay but she couldn't get him to commit to a morning. So she said she was gonna give me another person and gave me Plumbers, Inc.
Daniel, the repair guy, was amazing. He was nice, smart and knew his work. He was meticulous and I appreciated him. I had two things in my bathroom and they're both 20 years old. The pull-up thing that opens and closes the drain rusted right through the connector underneath of the sink drain pipe. So the guy had to change that connector as well as the down stopper. He also changed the ring under the sink because it was corroded. He was so good that he tested it after it was done and was slow. The long pipe that connects the two underneath to the final drain was clogged so he pulled it out. I brought it into the kitchen and ran some hot water through it. I gave it back to him and he put it in. I had a good experience and I'm happy. My sink works great.

When we bought the house, the sump pump was sealed because of some remediation for toxic wastes in the land. We never physically got a chance to check it, but we knew it was covered under the warranty. After one of the hurricanes happened, we figured it wasn't working. The tech came and right away just realized it needs to be replaced. He was in and out within an hour. It was great. The website of AHS makes the claim process really easy. I made two claims, so far. I'm using American Home Shield for the first time and in terms of customer service, I am pleased with the service that I've received thus far. The last time the tech came out, my appointment was canceled the day of and had to be rescheduled for a later time, which caused further delay. It was extremely inconvenient because I made arrangements to work from home that day so that I would be available for them to arrive. So, to receive a call on that day was a huge imposition because that meant I needed to take additional time off in order to be available for them to come. But they accommodated me by rescheduling late into the day. So at least, I only had to leave work an hour early versus an entire day.
Over the weekend, I started having additional problems. The unit worked fine for about a week but for the past few days, we have been without any heat at all. AHS is not open on the weekends so I was only able to make contact with them this morning. Most people are probably off on the weekends and that would be a convenient time to have service.
AHS contracts work out to other companies and I may have some hesitation about some of the companies. Perhaps it would be helpful if there was a list or whatnot that consumers could select from. Because perhaps by word of mouth, at least we could review the company that will be coming out to our home to do the work. I am hopeful as a consumer that AHS vet the company that they would send out to any of their customers' homes. The original issue quasi-resolved does give me pause and certainly hope we're not dealing with a local company that either half-did the first job or may have messed up something in doing the initial job that will cost us more money.

So far, American Home Shield has been great. My referrals have always been good. When my furnace was not working, they referred me to Cool & Cozy but that company did not respond to me. After a few days, I called American Home Shield back and told them to change Cool & Cozy because they have not responded to my calls. They said they tried to reach me, but they hadn't. I didn't have a record.
American Home Shield gave me Johnson HVAC and Johnson HVAC called me right away. I had to wait a few days for them to come out but they came out and fixed the fuse. What I really like about them is there's a woman there that always answers the phone. I've had them come out before and she always answers. If she's busy, she tells me she'll call me back and calls me back. I got the same technician that came out, too, that repaired the electrical panel last winter. Orval is his first name and it didn't even take him very long. He took the panel off, went back out to the van, came back in and said, “I thought it was a fuse and it was a fuse.” It was done and I was thrilled.

AHS's customer service reps are not knowledgeable. My dishwasher was completely broken but the contractor couldn't repair it. They gave a link to choose whether I want a reimbursement or wait for this thing. The link itself is not a secured link. I don't have to enter any user ID, password. If I click on the link, anybody can go and select whatever they want. It looks like somebody made an auto-selection or something and it went directly to a Lowe's gift card, which is like $600. I called them up and I said I never submitted anything like that. They cancelled it.
The replacement was not in stock and if I needed to check if the dishwasher is in stock, I had to call them every three days. They would not call me and would not give me an alternate way to get inside their website. And every time I call, it is a 30-minute wait time. I waited for two months but because of COVID, I thought I’ll give them time. Then, two months became three months and they kept on saying that I got to wait until it is in stock. But the same dishwasher, which they were about to replace, was there in stock at Home Depot. AHS would not reimburse the amount if I buy it from Home Depot. They said that they would only reimburse what they think if they acquired it. It was around half of what the actual dishwasher was. A number of calls upon calls and suddenly we got a random, good customer service member. He said that he will approve it and that went through.
Other than that, the technicians that came out recently were good. Although, when I first called them, my fridge was leaking and there was something behind they had to clean up that the initial service person did not clean up. He just removed the ice. My fridge started leaking again in three months and the second service person who came out cleaned up the ice. I asked what the guarantee was that it will not happen again and then he went behind to check on some things. There was a lot of dust accumulation behind and he cleaned up and that problem did not occur. It is a hit and miss with the techs.

A faucet in the kitchen was old and worn out. It was starting to spin on top of the top. It wouldn’t tighten and was leaking. Kamko Plumbing came out and apologized for the long wait which was two and a half weeks. They took a look at the issue and determined from the year of the faucet that they didn't make those anymore. They suggested that I'd be better off getting a new faucet for it or they’d probably be back out here to fix it again. They took the initiative to find it. I told them how we wanted it and they came up with a real solid faucet. We enjoy it so I feel happy with them.
There was another plumbing company who came out here and I was so upset that I’d spent the money but they didn't do anything. They tightened up the handle on the old faucet, and within that evening, it was having an issue again. We let it go for a long time because I didn't want to call back. That was one of the reasons why I didn't reach out real fast after I called. Three or four weeks went by and I kept thinking if that was the same phony place that was going to come back out here, I was going to refuse it. But it was Kamko Plumbing and when I went online, they had good reviews. I had them come out and they lived up to it. They're real helpful.
I usually pay up the policy with American Home Shield a whole year at a time. I went online to renew my policy and there was something that American Home Shield had on their site that made it sound like if I wanted to save money, then take and do it monthly. I did it and everything's auto pay but for three or four months, I kept getting notices that I was behind. I kept telling him, “It's auto pay. How can I be behind? You guys are taking the money out.” No one seemed to know what was going on. They said not to worry about it and disregard the notice. I went online, put my credit card back in there, paid one cent on it and all that went away. It was a little frustrating. I should have paid for the whole thing all at one time like I normally do.

But when I made the claim process, they were out the same week. I had done a pre-winter heat check. My motor was out on my heater and they had to replace the motor. Everything's working great. The tech gave me a new thermostat. The heat is working awesome. So far, my experience with AHS has been good. My parents also had them for years. I know even from when I'm used to living with my parents, they handle things pretty well compared to some other home warranties that I'm familiar with that other people had. I'm happy with AHS.

I called Johnson HVAC before the summertime. They were very nice to deal with and the tech seemed very knowledgeable. But, it took five weeks to get something fixed. They said, “We’ll order it and get the part in two days.” But it took five weeks to get the part. At the eleventh hour, they were able to get it in a couple of days. It wasn’t a good experience.
Then when we called for the seasonal tune-up, we were assigned to him again, and we had already paid the money. I called back and said I didn't want to get him again. The AHS rep said, “You're gonna have to pay again, but we'll reassign it.” I said, “No. Give me the refund." When I got the refund, I called back and told them that I want to get assigned to somebody else. They did that and assured us that that wouldn't happen. I took the lady's name, and lo and behold, we got assigned to the same company again. At that point, I was like, all right, the heck with it.
The tech was very nice. But it was a while for him to come. It was November 5th before he could get here, which was fine. But we already had the heat on a couple of times by then. But he came and did everything that he needed to do. He went above and beyond because I asked him some other questions. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. It was just the first time around, it was disappointing because it took so long. It was never anybody's fault, it was just, nobody ever apologized. Nobody ever said, “This shouldn't have happened.” It was like that's the way they do business. So I wasn't happy with them. But they were fine at this last one. We also had the stove repaired and that went off without a hitch. The part was mailed to us, the guy came back out, he put it in and it wasn't a deal.

American Home Shield has very poor service. I got a notice from them, a general message saying that it was time to check the the air conditioner. I'm used to checking the air conditioner and the heater during the different seasons. So, I said, "Okay, time for a check-up." I called AHS to try to get one, and they took the $75 out first then they sent someone that, when they got there, said, "We don't service apartments that are in buildings that are over five storeys." The apartment is on the 15th floor. I called the home warranty company back, let them know that and I asked them to send someone else. We kept going around about that then someone came out after a few weeks, but that person did practically nothing. I said, "Okay, fine. I'm just not gonna worry about it."
The next time, a water tank was not heating water. I called and American Home Shield was sending me the same company. I said, "These people already said that they don't service buildings that are over five storeys." That was something that I had to keep going back and forth with them about. I got to explain to the young lady, the young man and the other person that my tenants have been living there with no hot water for two weeks and they're not happy. They pay rent, and I had to do something. I asked the reps, "Can I get my own person?" They said, "Oh, yeah, of course." I got someone to do it and paid the 500 or more dollars then I called them and said, "Okay. How do I get reimbursed in this?"
The young man told me to send the information to claims, which I did. But then, they came back and said I didn't follow proper procedures. I ended up paying for that out of my pocket. I was not happy because I kept calling and asking for a manager, but they never gave me one. They kept saying that they had to handle it themselves and it turned into something crazy. I was going to cancel the home warranty, but my Realtor talked me into keeping it.
I've only had this apartment for a year, and when I got it inspected, there was nothing wrong with it. These things, over time, have gotten to the point where they need attention though. The next time I called AHS was to get a water tank replaced because it started leaking. I started with them in August. I didn't get someone out there to take care of that until the end of October and I paid this person out of my pocket almost $3,000. I went back and forth with the home warranty company and my Realtor got on the phone with them too. I didn't curse anybody out and I tried to talk to these people. I got so many of them that I could not understand and that didn't understand me, and the reps kept saying the same thing over and over again and gave me no solution.
My Realtor let me know that I could go to retention, so I asked for that, and the people there were the ones who said I could find my own person. The people American Home Shield sent out looked at the water tank and sent me an estimate. I sent the estimate to the home warranty company, and they said that they would not do modifications. I said, "I didn't ask for a modification." All these people were doing was replacing the water tank, the pan up under it, and the tubing, but the home warranty company considers that modifications for whatever reason. I went around and around with them with that for months then the retention folks said, "Well, you could do a cashout." I went to the cashout people and they said, "Okay. So, someone get in touch with you and it's gonna take 24 to 48 hours."
Every time I call, I get the same 24 to 48 hours. Finally, I got someone after a month. I needed to know how much AHS was going to cash out for so I could have an idea of what I had to pay out of my pocket. I got to the point where I said, "Okay, fine. Just cash out for the water heater and I'll pay for the rest. Let's just get it done." But then, that never happened. They kept saying that the job was done, and I don't know where they were getting that from. The young lady and young man, each time, will call the company and find out that the job is not complete and that we still needed to do something about it.
I got the reps to let me know what they were gonna reimburse me and to finish it, but then they said it was gonna take four to six weeks to get the check. The tank was leaking and it was getting worse. What I don't want is for the whole thing to burst, and then it goes through all these other apartments. I had to go ahead and replace the tank and I'm counting on American Home Shield to send the check like they promised. I've had to borrow some money to make sure that I can continue to cover things.
The other thing was the heater. "Okay, time to get your heater checked up," and I said, "Okay." The people came out, checked it and told me that I needed Freon because there was a leak and that they would send that back to Home Shield. Home Shield kept saying that they didn't get a report from these people, while these people kept saying they sent something. I just canceled the whole thing. I already knew it was gonna be a chore. I had no doubt about it because that's how it's been every time I called. American Home Shield has been worthless, and I hope that I don't have to call them again.

The repair company came out, found the problem and replaced the hinges on the side of the unit. They stated that the reason why my fridge was freezing was because the bottom door was not properly closing anymore and the top. It needs to be closed completely in order for it not to freeze like that. All in all, the experience was good, very helpful, and they were able to repair everything in a timely manner. Updated on 12/01/2021: I called to complain about a service call early November. I later discovered that the service company AHS sent out was not registered to the BBB and had an overall star rating of 1 star out of five. Finally a man named Robert emailed me and called on Nov 24. He was polite and appeared to be sympathetic and told me that he would follow up soon and that he send me the service report that I requested and paid for. This is the second time I requested this report and was told they would email this immediately. A lot of talk but no action. Here I sit Dec 1 with no service report sent and still no response other than explaining I owe $125 for the service e run. Of course I do not want to pay this until they send me the report. Still waiting but no response. Stay away from this company. They use to be very good but know they have taken a turn for the worse.
Original Review: I have contracted with AHS to cover my swimming pool as an add on to my home warranty. They have sent two contractors to diagnose my pool heater. I just discovered each one had a terrible review rating. They also falsely claimed that my pool water was acidic and this caused the leak, so AHS would not have to pay for the necessary repairs. I received a report from my pool management company who test my water weekly. It shows that the water has never been on the acidic side for the months they have maintained my pool. These false reports allow AHS to deceptively deny and not comply with the contract to fix this covered issue. I am very disgusted with how they have handled this situation and I would not recommend them to anyone.
I asked AHS to provide me the service reports that I paid for and they have now told me they cannot provide these. Zero transparency to cover their false reports! They have claimed that someone will call me back to discuss this matter, but this has not happened either. Stay away from this company! You are wasting your money.

When filing claims through the phone, sometimes there's a language barrier with regards to the different people that AHS has that are answering their calls. Then sometimes it could be stressful with regards to the hidden fees with AC units. If something goes wrong with it, they will replace it, but at a fee. They only pay up to a certain amount. That issue needs to be more outspoken with regard to contractual purposes. When I first signed up, one of the highlights for me was that I could have a refrigerator and if it gets damaged or they couldn't repair it, they'd just replace it. Also, if I have an AC unit and they can't fix it, they’ll just replace it, as long as it’s not negligence. But other than that, there were no big issues. It was just a little more timely.
Recently, the furnace at my rental property wasn’t lighting. The vendor came and said that I needed to get a gas valve. They came back out and then they placed an order. They came out and inspected the unit again and then left because it wasn't on their truck at the time. Then they came back out and performed the repair and left.

Usually, the claims process is good, but in the last year or so, it's been getting more difficult to get someone to talk to and answer questions. I cannot talk to anybody other than the call center. I go online and put in whatever has broken at the house and for the contractor to come out and whatever type company service that needs to come out and take a look at it, whether it's plumbing, refrigerator, or appliance repair. That process is generally usually good. Sometimes what falls short are the companies that come out. There have been a few issues in years past where the workers weren’t always the best and do quite a good job on some of the items that needed to be repaired. That is when I would have to call my rep in and she would help out and get it taken care of. We have a rep who is within our company so I was able to reach out to her as well through this process. She is always very helpful if I have any issues. That's a big help and a big part why I stay with American Home Shield as well.
One of the parts froze up again. The tech was the same gentleman that came out this summer because I had another issue with the refrigerator. It was fixed and repaired by them as well. He was super nice, professional, and knowledgeable. I just explained to him that this has been happening every year with this refrigerator. And he said, "Well, let me reach out to American Home Shield. 'Cause in other words, y'all are just going to keep putting money into something that's just going to keep breaking continuously." We took it one more step up to get the replacement and that was fairly easy as well. AHS gave me an answer within a couple of days that it would be replaced versus repaired and sent the email with my options and I chose from that.
I carry the plan that covers almost everything. Being a homeowner for many years now, that's one that I would highly recommend others to go with because it covers most items. Also, if there is an issue with any company, always reach back out to AHS. I've always been fortunate to have that handled and taken care of. I've been pleased with American Home Shield.

Our oven broke and then two days later, our dryer broke. When I put in a service call for each of them with AHS, the same appliance repair company came out to look at both of them on the same day. The tech said he was going to order parts for both of them and that he would come back in when the parts were available. A couple of days later, I received a notice from American Home Shield that the oven cannot be fixed, so they were going to replace that for us. They found parts to repair the dryer.
With the oven replacement, because of the backlog or unavailability of replacement ovens, they didn't have any appropriate ovens to replace our existing oven, so they determined a fair replacement value for it and issued us a check to go out and find another oven to replace our existing oven with. That check was for a very generous amount. We were able to upgrade to a much better oven than we currently had. So, we were extremely pleased by that. We’re able to go to Home Depot when they were having a Black Friday sale and find a much superior oven to our prior oven and have them come out and install that and it was quite wonderful. Nothing but complete satisfaction there.
On the dryer, the parts came in. The appliance repairman came back at the time and the day that they said that we'd be back, installed the new motor for the dryer, and again, very fast, efficient and completely satisfied with the results. The main objection to the dryer was it took about three weeks to get the parts in and get it replaced. It was much more difficult to live without a dryer ‘cause my wife would wash a load of clothes and then had to go to a laundromat to dry them. So, that was inconvenient on the timing.

I had to wait on hold for 45 minutes for somebody to come on to submit the request, which I did. The techs came out and did a decent job. Overall, AHS is very hard to get in touch with. Also, they sent me the worst plumber ever at one point in time, which I have been in a lawsuit with for three years. That's SWAT Plumbing.
AHS sent them and then they said, "We don't do this. We'll do that, but we won't do this." I had to have that portion done anyway, and so I contacted them to do it. They dug a terrible gaping hole in part of my slab and then wouldn't take care of it. It went on for months. I didn't pay them, and so they sued me. I sued them back. So, it's still in litigation. Except for SWAT Plumbing, which was terrible, most of the contractors have been quite acceptable. It's just going through the bureaucracy of American Home Shield and contact with them that is very frustrating.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I've just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

We were getting a handyman to put boards up in the attic and the gentleman at Handyman.com wanted pictures of the attic, so he could give me an estimate. My son saw the pan that the water fills up into, there was water up under there on the wood by the heat pump. We called American Home Shield then the contractor called and told me that they would be at my home within an hour, and they came a bit earlier. It was Anthony and another young man, and they were very efficient. Anthony explained to me what they were going to do and after they finished the job, they showed me what they did. They went up in the attic and flushed the lines then they went on the side of the house to show me the calcium deposits that came through. The service was very professional and I would recommend them.

So far, I'm quite happy with the service I have been getting from American Home Shield. I usually have very good experiences with American Home Shield. There have been times for other repairs in our house that have not gone well but the one where Wicker repaired two dripping faucets went very smoothly. Everything was very professional. I had a very good experience with the rep. Sometimes I don't know the contractor's name when I call to set up a service. But this time, I did. And I knew when they would be calling and arranging for the service. AHS has been a very good service to have with a new home.

I had to have three different vendors through American Home Shield to get my laundry machine fixed. They called Whirlpool out and Whirlpool wouldn't even give a proper answer. Then E&C came out and they came through. They were pretty easy to work with and they worked with American Home Shield to figure out a replacement plan for me.
But I have difficulty getting people to understand the problems that we're going through. A lot of the reps don't speak English or are not really good at English so there's a communication barrier. Trying to get somebody in the States to talk to is difficult or they won't escalate to a manager. I was working on this laundry machine repair all the way from May and it just got addressed in November. Also, American Home Shield doesn't cover all repairs as they say they do. There's a lot of lingo in their contract. If you have to get your AC repaired, they don't cover anything but the unit. I wasn't aware of that until I had to get my AC repaired and I had to cover the Freon cost.

My air conditioner had frozen up. I filed the claim on a Thursday, and then on Friday, I reached out to the contractor and I told them that the unit was running constantly, so I turned the breakers off. The tech called me back and said that I did the right thing. He also told me what time he'd be there Monday. It wasn't hot and I had two air conditioners and so one of them was off for the weekend.
He was there Monday on time and checked the pressure, the unit up in the attic, and everything out. He didn't find any defect except the air filters were very clogged up and that was putting too much load on the unit and then it was very humid and it froze up. We thawed it out and put new air filters in and it’s been okay. The root cause was I didn't change the air filter, so we got that fixed. We had another company last year that I had issues with how the claims were done, the billing process, and there were some problems. With this company, everything went pretty smooth, so no complaints.

For my recent claim with AHS, the techs came earlier with my air conditioning. They said it was a fuse. About two months later, they had to come back. The compressor had gone out and had to have all my Freon replaced. But all in all, they were good because they came, did what they had to do and I had no issues. They were on time when they said they were gonna be there. Since I've had AHS, I've had nothing but a good experience. However, I'd like to be able to speak to a person more so. A lot of times when I call, I have to go through the automated system.

I had a great experience with American Home Shield. The guy came here when he was supposed to and fixed the problem. The water wouldn’t stop from running and he told me what was wrong, went out to his truck, and it was not even 10 minutes. He was in and out. Also, the plug that goes into the tank at the bottom gets worn out after a while, and he replaced that.
I love American Home Shield. It was very simple to put in the claim, and it was done so quickly and efficiently. This is the first time that I've used this and it's a no-brainer. People pay so much for repair people just come out and take a look at an issue, so the one-time fee that we're paying here more than takes care of anything that we could possibly need to have done. I totally would recommend it to anybody.

Sometime in July, I got the new contract from AHS because it was coming up in August and the price went up. So, I called them and I asked why. The guy told me that the rates of the contractors they use have gone up, so they had to go up on the price. But he said they would like to keep me as a customer, so he was going to drop my bill back down. The price was going to be 57.99 and he said he dropped it down to 50.99. And it was for the agreement from 8/26/21 to 8/25/22. Bu when I called again because I wanted to add in the electronics package, somebody told me that that information was not put in their records. I was so frustrated until it was pathetic, but I was thinking that maybe I needed to wait until August when my contract starts up again then I'd call them back.
In the meantime, I got a new bill for 56.99 again and they were saying that they didn't see where the guy I talked to had made this adjustment But I got a new contract agreement with 50.99 on it and they couldn't explain that. I then asked adding the electronic package on and they said they could add it on but I'd have to pay the whole amount and it wouldn't take effect until 2022. So, I've got to pay you this entire amount for 200 and something dollars and it wouldn't take place. So, I called back because when you call back, you get somebody different every time. I talked to this girl and she said she could add the electronic package on starting September 26th of this year and my bill was going to go to 68.99. I said that was fine. But she called me back and said she wasn't able to do that. That was a mistake and I told her that not to add the electronic package on anymore as I didn't want it.
Then, I had a claim for my hot water heater that started leaking. I called AHS and they sent this company out called Action Mechanical Services. And when they told me that was who it was going to be, I went on the Better Business Bureau to check everybody out. Action Mechanical Services had all kinds of complaints. Then, I talked to a relative of mine and she said they came to her house, and they were terrible. They didn't believe the COVID was real and they didn't want to wear any masks. So, when the guy came out here, I asked if he had a mask and he said he didn't need it. He said he had COVID and he already had his vaccination. He then looked at the hot water heater, took a picture, and was here for about five minutes. That company was awful and I don't ever want them again.
At another time, my faucet on the outside broke where my husband couldn't cut the water off. Then, the other one in the back of the house is leaking. So, I put in a claim online for the faucets. But Action Mechanical popped up as my contractor, so I called AHS and told them that I didn't want them to come. But when I called, the representative said that they don't cover our faucets outside. But I told him that my sister that lives over in Jennings, Missouri said that they fixed hers. He then told me to hold on and I could barely understand him either, but he was better that the previous rep I talked to. When he came back, he confirmed that they do not cover the faucets on the outside. So, I told him no to take that $100 out of my account because as soon as you call or place a service online, they immediately take that $100. So, they canceled the claim and they did not take the $100.
After that, I got an email from American Home Shield saying that I needed to contact them about my service request as soon as possible. So, I called and I got this young lady who I could not understand at all. She was saying that our part was going to be $800 but I didn't understand what it was for. And we went on and on until she finally said that they could just give us a pay-out. I told her to send me what they were going to pay for the hot water heater and they sent me a check for $596, which did not pay for my hot water heater. So, we went to another company and AHS said that whoever we were going to use, we got to send them their complete invoice or they'd see what they did because now, I would be covering this water heater. So, I sent that to them and they sent me the little $596 that wasn't enough to pay for the hot water heater.
I also had to call AHS when my furnace wouldn't cut on and they didn't send that Action Mechanical out. It was another company called Budget Air Conditioning Heating and Plumbing and they were really good. The ladies in the office where very professional and they had good customer service. The guy that came out said it was the motor and he put a new one in. He also put his mask on and we talked about that before they came. I asked if their technician had a mask and their rep said he did. She also said they wanted to make sure that no one in our home was sick and I told her that I'd have on a mask too. They were very nice and courteous. Everything went well and the furnace worked really well until Friday. But they put it in on November 1st and Friday was November 13th.
That Friday, the house was cold and my husband had even turned the thermostat up to 85 to get the furnace to come on but it wouldn't. So, I called AHS and they didn't charge me again. Their rep said that I wouldn't get charged $100 because this was what they called a recall. And they were going to have the same people, which is Budget Heating and Cooling. So, I'm waiting on them today.
All in all, the biggest issue I had with AHS was having several different people telling me something different about me trying to add on the electronics package and with my monthly bill. It was just so confusing. But I haven't canceled and I'm going to keep them because I have family members that have them and they haven't had any issues.
With the provider I had before, you can call your own people to come out and you have to pay for the service, then they will reimburse you for part of it. That happened with my washer. To get it fixed was going to cost $600 and they only wanted to pay 400. I don't need anything like that and wondered what would happen if I don't have all that money upfront. That was when my sister said that with American Home Shield, you pay your deductible and they send somebody out. Then they just take care of it. So, I said I was going to switch to them. Then, I talked to my sister-in-law, she has American Home Shield and she said they had to buy her a new stove and she didn't have any issues. So, that's why I went to American Home Shield and I haven't had a real issue with them yet. So far, it seems like things have been working pretty good and I would refer them to someone.

I had a relatively large issue with American Home Shield recently for my rental house that I'm selling. First of all, they told me they didn't have anyone in the area to cover the service that I put in and then, they gave me approval to find my own. When I went to the company that they had already provided me for a plumbing service, they also did the HVAC service that I needed and they said they were AHS’ vendor for the area. So, we went back and forth on that. Then, it was a 45-step process of getting my money back from AHS if I have to get the contractor myself and pay it and then get reimbursed. I shouldn't have had to do any of this. The contractor was in their network.
I got to someone and she said that I was right and that they were gonna do this. So, she gave it authorization. Then, they called me back and said that no one was allowed to do that because you're not allowed to give outside contractor authorization for a HVAC tune-up. I told them that I'm not paying them so they should figure it out themselves.
I had to explain my situation at least 25 different times to four different people. So, the customer service is probably the biggest issue I have with AHS. They don't understand what I'm saying or they don't know how to help me. I'll say what I say, they'll repeat what I said to them and then, they'll ask me again the same question I've already explained. But the contractor was awesome and with AHS, you get a good amount of stuff covered for what you pay. Overall, the company is okay and they do all right. But the customer service stinks. I only do it because I have rental houses. You don't know what your tenants are gonna break. I'm 300 miles away and I'd much rather have the insurance policy than drive over there and take care of something.

The light on the exhaust fan wasn't coming on and the motor wasn't running. I did a claim with American Home Shield and the guy who came was friendly and showed up on time. He replaced the motor and fixed the issue. I had such a positive experience with this one, but for the other claim for the dryer, I was having all type of issues. Every time I call, nobody picks up. I've left several messages. I am wondering who are these companies that American Home Shield is contracting with that you can't call them during normal business hours and get somebody?
The guy who came and repaired it the first time replaced the thermostat in the dryer and it's been working fine for the past three years. He also told me the dryer vent was fine. Now I'm having the same issue. I called American Home Shield and they contracted a company. The company never got with me. I called the company and they said they didn't have a claim for me. I had to call American Home Shield and they said, "We didn't dispatch that company yet. It looks like they're busy. Let us find you a new company.” They found me a new company. I called the guy and he asked, "Where's your washer and dryer?” I told him it was on the second floor. He said, "I know what the issue is already. Your vents may be clogged.” I told him that was not the issue.
I wasn't home when they came out and they told my wife that the vent is clogged and I had to get a professional vent cleaner to make the dryer get hot. They closed the case. I called American Home Shield and they told me the service was completed. It shouldn't be completed because the guy never checked anything else. Now I'm going back and forth with trying to get my dryer fixed. I called this morning and the rep said, “We just tried to call them and left them a message for them to call us. When they get in around 9 o'clock, can you call them and let them know?” I told her I'm paying for a service. American Home Shield should call the contractor, find out what the problem is, then call me back. The rep said they'd call me back after they speak to the service company. I’m out of $150, and my dryer still isn't fixed. It's frustrating and I was thinking about canceling American Home Shield.

In July, my AC unit went out and the company that American Home Shield hired took about a month to come out. They're about three hours away from where I live. So, they're not even in town and they'd have to make trips when they could down here to diagnose it. They said the issue was a compressor. But the unit was over 15 years old. I don't even think I can find this part. So they lifted up to American Home Shield. Then American Home Shield took about another month and a half and they finally found a compressor. The AC people said that they were gonna highly recommend getting the whole unit replaced, but they didn't. Three months later was when it finally got fixed.
My second claim was my refrigerator, which I am still waiting for to get fixed. This has been going on for two months. American Home Shield got somebody who was about six hours away from where I live to come out. Once they came out, they told me what I needed and that they’re gonna ship me the parts. They shipped me the parts and when the tech finally came out to install them, the parts were so beat up and he couldn't install them. The compressor’s ears were bent. The hoses that go to the compressor were also bent. He tried to bend them back and it broke off. So, on top of that, they had to order another one. Now, this is the third time they've rescheduled me to get it done. I was supposed to have it done Monday but they didn't come out. I was supposed to have it done Friday but they didn't come out again. Now, it's gonna be Tuesday this coming week.

I had a couple of recent things with American Home Shield. The first claim did not go so well. The motor died on my ceiling fan and they were supposed to replace it, but I got a lot of runaround with them. The engineer that looked at the ceiling fan sent the report in to them. They were supposed to either issue me a similar ceiling fan, a plain white one, or compensate me for the ceiling fan based on what the engineer thought the worth of that fan would be. I got neither, so that is still open. I ended up buying another ceiling fan, so I'm sending the receipt back to them. But they said they're only gonna compensate me a certain amount of money. My ceiling fan was $300, but they're only gonna compensate me a third of that. That is not good. The latest incident was my HVACs went out, and I called them up. They subcontracted a company to come and replace my HVAC systems, and Bennett Air was fantastic.

Initially, he couldn't find the problem because it worked fine when he was here. He told us to give it a couple of days then call him if it was still acting up. We called him, he came back out, and the problem presented itself to him but he couldn't get it to work either. He told us to let him do some research to see if they could get the part. He came back and said that the parts are no longer made and he couldn't them. That was when he contacted American Home Shield to say that the washer couldn't be repaired. Calvary Appliances Repair did a good job. The guy we talked to was Martin and he kept us informed. He gave us an update to say he submitted everything to American Home Shield.
I feel good about most of the contractors. Back in February, we had a problem with our dishwasher and the technician had to order a part. He came back out, fixed it, and we had no issues. It's worthwhile to sign up for American Home Shield and use them. I've had them for 21 years and in all cases, they were able to do something, either they fixed it or something got replaced.

So, we had to go four more days without being able to take showers or flush the toilets. I kept telling him he needed to call. He finally got ahold of someone. They sent him a link and he was supposed to go to that link and request somebody to come. So, it was put off on him to do that part and he didn't understand that. So, that was his frustration, which made me mad because when I got home from work, I expected that the clog would be cleaned. And I had to go for more days without being able to use our water. It was two weeks of ongoing process. When the guys got here, they were wonderful. They resolved it, showed us what the problem was and what would need to happen in order to keep it from happening again.

I called in a service order and the rep talked to me and set it up for me. The repair guy came out the next day, took the filter out and drained some part of the system so the AC could kick back on. It was a simple fix. He explained that the filter was dirty and it was full. There was a safety thing to where the AC would click off, and it wouldn’t work. He told me to put a reminder to change my filter every two to three months. My overall experience with American Home Shield has been good, and it's affordable. I just pay the fee, have them service whatever is wrong, and they fix it.

Whenever I call and speak to the reps, I can't understand what they're saying. Home Shield employs a lot of people with very heavy accents and it's very difficult for me to relay my issues with them. For the most part, they're reading some sort of feedback to give me that they put up on a monitor and it's so obvious. When I asked them a question, they told me to standby, and they'd type in something, and then they were just reading it. I've actually hung up and tried to call back to get somebody different. Even if I get another person, I can't hear them, they're very hard to deal with, and they don't relate to what's going on. It's very frustrating when you have an issue and when you're dealing with somebody. It's no fault to them, that's just who they are, but that's just one thing.
I had an issue with a HVAC company where I told them that I didn't want that contractor because of the issue I had and that I wanted someone else to come out. The representative I spoke to told me that I should just go along with it because I already had an open contract. With the tone and cadence of his voice, it was very obvious that he didn't care. I didn't like that at all.
With my recent claim, I have a two-unit home then my first unit broke down, and it was handled by Nova HVAC, LLC. A week later, my second unit went down. I called Home Shield and they sent out Precision Engineering. They came at the time they said they were going to come, diagnosed the issue, were in and out within an hour, and my heating has been working ever since we've dealt with them.

Recently, we had an issue with our refrigerator. It wasn't cooling at all. They came in and changed the drains out, and then put some coolant back into the refrigerator. So far, it's been so good. The claim process of AHS has been simple. They usually get someone out pretty quickly. Having AHS saved me quite a bit of money, even though I'm paying for a monthly service. It's still, at the end of the day when you're buying a large appliance, it's covered it well. I've had a great experience with AHS.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.

The routine maintenance was good, except the company was a couple weeks behind after I scheduled it. It was right when the cold weather had hit. Overall, the claims process is simple. We had a few repetitive issues on another incident, but American Home Shield had finally gotten that taken care of. Being first time homeowners, having a home warranty really helped with peace of mind for us and that was why we wanted to get it initially.

I liked the level of coverage that American Home Shield offered. They offered things that the other ones didn't. I filed a claim online for both the dishwasher and the microwave. When the contractor came out to do the dishwasher, they repaired it but it didn't work. They came out again a week later, and the guy said, “Well, it can't be repaired. We're going to replace it.” So I put in for a replacement. The first time the replacement came out, my shut-off valve was not working so they couldn't install it. And the dishwasher that they originally would deliver was damaged so they sent a new one out. And when the guys came out with a new one, that was when they told me, “Oh, it's not gonna fit here” and that somebody would call me back to reschedule for it to fit. Those guys weren't very good.
Another contractor came out to do my microwave and that went smoothly. When they were here, I asked them if they could do the dishwasher installation. The tech said, “I can, but you have to call American Home Shield.” So I was on the phone with AHS for 45 minutes trying to get that done. The tech said, “You know what? By the time you get through to them, I can have it done.” So he went ahead and did it, and he did a very good job. I would recommend AHS. They are a great company if you're in the market for a home warranty.

The Sears tech came out the first time because the freezer and refrigerator weren't cold enough. He put some Freon and ordered a part. Then, he came back out two weeks later and took the part out of the box and it was kind of damaged. He didn't feel comfortable using it because it had been creased like it can leak. When we moved the refrigerator out, we noticed a puddle underneath the refrigerator, which I hadn't seen in all of my wood floors and it was very concerning. The drawer where the vegetables are had all water underneath it. He pulled something else out and there was another part that needed to be replaced.
He put a claim in with AHS and the best line of action was to do a replacement unit. I've been given paperwork for a replacement unit. The guy that came out was really helpful both times and he was right on time. I like who AHS is contracting with. Also, I'm a Realtor and AHS is kind of my go-to product now. It's reassuring as a homeowner to see the policies that I'm including when I'm selling homes work so effectively. I'm really happy with the service.

My blower fan on my gas furnace broke. It took them a week to get the parts. But when they got the parts, they came up, took it apart and put it back together again. It's been working ever since real well. It’s just, it got cold that one weekend and we happen to be without heat. But other than that, they did a good job. The cost factor of AHS is great. They're reasonable. I don't use it that often, but when I need it, it's there.

My icemaker is supposed to sit level, and one side of it is disengaged. It was hanging down, and it wouldn’t work. The Hornet people had to get a part and I don’t know why AHS asks us to put the model and serial number. It doesn't seem to matter. The contractors always have to get a part. Apart from that, the Hornet people did good. They came back in a couple of days with the part, fixed the icemaker, and it's working.
Last year, American Home Shield hooked me up with the electrical and they charged me for it all year. We then had a claim and they said I wasn't eligible because I didn’t have it. It really ticked me off. Also, they usually say something right before our contract is due to tell us what the price is gonna be next year, and they didn’t this year. It went up $50, and I still have nothing from them. When I call, I hold and hold and don't get anybody. I don't have time to hold for an hour.

My front bathroom was clogged up. From the time I went through the system and sent the claim, the techs were out there in two days. They hit me back and said that it was as soon as they could come out. The plumber that came out evaluated the situation. He said the pipes under it were rather old and needed replacing. He'd have to contact AHS and get approval. I heard back on Monday that it was approved. They came out on that Wednesday. The plumber was in and out in less than 30 minutes. He was polite, professional, and did what he had to do. I was really pleased.

The coil was out and the contractor replaced that. It just that it took a couple of days for an approval for them to first come, take a look, then go back, send the things to American Home Shield, American Home Shield doing an approval, and then they coming back and doing it. Though, I was lucky that the weather was not that bad that we needed the AC. If it was in the middle of the summer, it would have been very painful. Apart from that, everything was very smooth. Having a warranty makes sense. Otherwise, if I didn't have it, I would have paid out of pocket and it would have been a big expense.

The repair company was very good. Unfortunately, the tech had a motorcycle accident and got injured right after he worked for us and we needed for him to come back and check something. As soon as he recovered from that injury, he was here. He is a good tech. He was very professional, prompt, and did a great job. Overall, we're happy with American Home Shield's service. We've been very pleased with the things that have been taken care of and without a problem or delay. The only thing is, sometimes, they request that we use whoever they have contracted with and sometimes, those people are not available readily. Other than that, I cannot complain at all. I have told people about American Home Shield and that it's taken care of what we've needed.

American Home Shield's call center is fine but I don't like getting people that are not American and that don't speak clear English. Also, I don't like having to pay a fee every time we have something that we need to fix. But it's better than having the contractor come out and do it without that. When All Brand came out, they were really good. Their timeliness and customer service were good. But American Home Shield sent out a company that stunk in customer service. The owner’s brother came out and he was very rude. He sat there and told us that our hot water heater was crap. He told us very negative things about what we have and then he said, “But we do sell this brand, and it's a really good brand.” This company was dropped for one thing but American Home Shield still uses them for their plumbing stuff.

The motor in my dishwasher went out. When it got taken apart, the door hinge broke so it would slam open. That was fixed fast. But I had to get transferred to a manager because there was some stuff from the prior one that they weren't sure if they would cover. In the end, I had to do the one deductible and they covered the entire fix. My service with American Home Shield is good and there is not a lot of out-of-pocket expense.

The appliance was making a loud noise and then when trying to get the ice out, the ice wasn't dropping down. Gen Tech Appliances Repair came and fixed those and told us to wait 24 hours before the icemaker would make ice. We waited 24 hours and then 48 hours and there was no ice and it was still making an incredibly loud noise. The guy came back and the ice was then dropping down, but the noise could be heard in somebody else's apartment. He said it needed a part. He said that maybe the water filter was defective. But that was a brand new one that we bought online for that brand. Each trip got worse and worse. It was like the guy fixed one thing and another thing broke down. Maybe the problem was a little bit deeper than he was able to handle. But he didn't come back with an attitude and acted like it was not his fault. He came back and tried to fix the problem. Now I got a note that some parts were on order.

I had a fence put in. The people putting the fence in here hit the waterline. The fence guys fixed it. But they didn’t fix it right. So, we had to call a plumber. They came out. But it wasn’t part of the American Home Shield portion. We ended up fixing it. I paid the plumbing $400. But our water pressure was super low and they had also gotten dirt in the system. They came back out and fixed everything. All those things were clogged up. Everything’s good now. Everybody should have AHS.

My washer stopped spinning. When I first called in, the guy was so patient with me and he took the time to listen to what I'm saying. I appreciated that. He addressed the issue. The representative from Sears changed the agitator and the sprockets at the bottom to turn the agitator. We used the washer for two weeks and then it stopped again. I went online to try to use the app to have AHS come back and they charged me $100. I'm like, “Well, that's wrong because this is the same issue because it' not working. They just came out here.” So, I redid it and then I said it was a recall. I called AHS and they canceled both of the orders and the representative rescheduled Sears to come back out. But it's still showing in the bank that AHS hasn't replaced my $100 as of yet.
The same rep came and got under the washer. He was like, “It's the motor and something else. And this is why the agitator had initially stopped working the first time.” Then he said, “Man, you know, you may as well let it go. It's not worth it.”. I called AHS right away and let them know. He called AHS as well. I threw the washer away, went to Badcock, and bought another one. Then, I called AHS again and let them know.
Brittany, the rep, was very helpful. She gave me a link and I uploaded a receipt of the purchase of the new washing machine. She told me it could take several weeks before I get reimbursed with a check. I haven't gotten the check as of yet. Other than that, I like the service that AHS provides. I don't mind paying the premium for the Platinum Plan. If there's one higher, I would get that. The thing is, though, is that for me to wait four to five weeks to get reimbursed as I already spent the money and I'm paying continuously is a little on the rough side.

The claim process at AHS was very easy. The home insurance through them has been very reassuring to me. However, it would be great to be advised of the potential warning signs, like hints, what to do, what to look for, things that you can do yourself to make sure that things don't go awry.
