My claim was handled very swiftly. After I made the claim online, I got a follow-up call within 48 hours from Pool Genie. They called when they were on their way or just to give me updates on things. It was the week that it was snowing on the coast. They navigated through weather and they did a really good job. The techs were very professional and gave a lot of things outside of what they were supposed to be doing. They gave a lot of educational information which was helpful. We had pool issue and they were like, "Well, we can write on the valves if you like so that you can know versus happen to go on memory." I really appreciated that 'cause I know that's not something that they had to do but they were just being really helpful.
Having AHS makes everything a bit easier. I told Pool Genie that when I was trying to troubleshoot and problem-solve just by myself without Home Shield, I didn't get anywhere. When people are contracted through AHS, it makes things move a little bit quicker. It takes away the middle part of trying to go to Yelp and figure out, "Well, who's the best person for this?" versus just going off with AHS's guy's expertise and pay whatever the flat rate is.

AHS is great to have. Just to pay a $100 deductible and have technicians come out and diagnose the situation is excellent. Also, every time I call, they come out and get to the solution. A recent claim was when my heat was shutting off. They came and they didn't find anything in the diagnosis. I haven't had any shutoffs since but if I do, I'm going to call them back.

I don’t have experience with American Home Shield located in other cities but the service is worst in San Diego. I recently bought a home and from friends' recommendation from cities, we bought American home shield. Within 5 months we realized that was a big mistake. Our refrigerator was not cooling and completely stopped working on January 5th, 2022. We immediately informed AHS, they dispatched a tech from Expert Appliance couple days later. We informed him that the compressor has to be replaced from our experience but he ignored our words. He unplugged our refrigerator and plugged it back and said he resolved the issue and the fridge will start cooling in 5hrs and nothing happened.
We called this guy again the next day and asked him to order the compressor. He said ok and mentioned that it will take a week to get the parts. We were fine waiting a week hoping to get this resolved. He came back after a week and replaced a thermistor instead of compressor. That’s when we realized this guy doesn’t know anything about repairing and shows up as technician to unplug and plug the appliance.
We called AHS and told them that we need a different technician as we are happy with what he did. AHS made a new service ticket and asked us to pay another service fee because they can’t assign a different tech in the same service ticket. By now we were not worried about money and want to get this resolved because we were already without fridge for 2 weeks. So it took another 3 days for new technician to come and this guy is pretty knowledgeable about the LG refrigerator that he brought the compressor with him. But the twist here is that he says he doesn’t have time to fix this compressor because it takes 2 hours to fix. He showed his appointments and told us he doesn’t have time. He gave February 1st as the earliest appointment which is 2 weeks from his first visit. My question is why do you even visit the customer if you don’t have time to fix their problem????
We kept calling AHS to address our problem as we have babies and elderly who store medicines and can’t live without the refrigerator. We spent in whole 10hrs of our time on phone. It’s January 23rd and we are still without working refrigerator. Again with my experience with AHS in San Diego, they don’t have technicians available in San Diego who can address your problem immediately. You literally have to wait a month or even more than that. Fingers crossed for my technician to come on February 1st to take care of my refrigerator.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

I had no heat and it was during the snow. I was running on emergency heat and when the techs came out, they checked the unit and it needed a new compressor. So they had to order that. It took a week to get it and for them to get back out here and get it put in. But they came earlier than when they were supposed to, got it put in, and did a great job. They explained everything to me, and they were very polite and professional. For this claim, I called AHS and it was easy to get through. Out of all of the warranty companies, and I’ve kind of dealt with several, American Home Shield is the best one. They cover more, they're faster, and they are more professional. I’m very happy with them.

The furnace would not kick on. A contractor came out and told me it was the switch sets in the attic. They said they weren't electricians. I put a new switch in but it still didn't work. They came back the following two days and said it was my thermostat. I went and bought a new thermostat. They came back out that Friday to put the thermostat in. It still didn't work. When they got the new thermostat in, they found the motherboard on the furnace was fried so they had to order me one. Then they came back this Monday. The whole week, I didn't have a furnace in my house. But the guy was very good at what he did. He apologized that they didn't realize the furnace part was going out the first time they came. Having a home warranty has saved me money in the long run so I would recommend American Home Shield.

The heater was not working. I did a claim to American Home Shield, and the technicians were able to come out very quickly. The only thing is I don't like to have to pay $75 every time somebody comes out because I bought an older home and I've got a lot of little issues, but overall, having the warranty is great.

We had a dishwasher repair and the tech, Will, was a great guy. Then, we had the ice box repaired as well as the refrigerator, and he replaced two thermostats on that. We couldn't get the ice maker fixed so, they ended up ordering one. The guy who came out to put it in was a different guy but both were very professional. I did one claim by internet and one by phone. Our ice maker was on its third repair. So, I went to a person I could talk to.

Our oven went out and my husband had just had surgery and I couldn't make him food. American Home Shield got somebody out here the next morning and they fixed it right away. American Home Shield is great. We are an older couple and I don't have to worry about things. I call them, tell them what's wrong, and they send somebody right away that is very knowledgeable. They either get it fixed or they've replaced a couple of things that couldn't be fixed. AHS held up to their end of the bargain, and there was never a hassle about it. I changed at one time and went to another home warranty, but I went right back to American Home Shield. 99% of the techs have been great. There's one in particular, Advanced Home Services, I put them right up there with American Home Shield. They are the best. This last one, Vector, was good, but not quite as good as the other. The guy knew what he was doing and fixed everything quick. He just wasn't very nice.

The service of AHS is fine. However, I've had an issue with the responsiveness of the contractors that they dispatch, sometimes it takes a long time to a few days to get a schedule or get an appointment. It happened three times. One time, I called for my heating service, just with the preseason check. The guy never showed up and I had to cancel it. But they're responsive on the administrative side. They're also really polite. They work with you to correct any issue. For example, that issue, they refunded my money. So it's not a big deal.

American Home Shield sent out a thing and said I could get an AC tune-up for $75. My fee to do anything with them is $125, so I decided to do that. But after that tune-up, the AC didn't heat up. It just stopped working when I needed the heat a week or two later. So a tech from Family A/C Service Solutions came out and said that the lines were messed up. My unit is 17 years old, so I was not really impressed with him because after he worked on the unit that I've been using for 7 years, it all of a sudden stopped working. And it's been cold temper in Florida. So, another tech came and he ended up getting rid of all the Freon because he said it had a leak.
So, two different technicians came out from Family A/C Service Solutions and they were very nice, but I still have no heat. When their guy came back out, he said that I needed a new system because all the Freon has leaked out and I needed at least 8 lbs. to get it fixed. He also said that American Home Shield only pays $10 and they're a $159 per pound Freon. They said that I could keep pouring money and fixing the same unit, but it would be ridiculous because in the long run, it's going to cost me more money. So to keep me from putting money into it, I agreed with him. But this has been an awful experience because my problem is still not fixed.
So I called American Home Shield and they wanted me to pay them another $125 for a tech to come out here and assess the system to see what needs to be done. Bu they are the ones who sent Family out here to look at the AC and gave me the diagnosis. So I'm really upset with American Home Shield and when it comes time for renewal, I will not be renewing unless they make this right. I'm not giving them another $125. I'd understand it if the person came out, told me the air conditioner was leaking, fixed it, and it was going to be $1,000 to put the Freon back in it. I'd understand American Home Shield if that was not the company they sent out here, but that was the company they sent out here. They have just left me sitting here with nothing unless I pay them more money.
Before this whole heating thing happened for their tune-up, I had a bathroom sink that was leaking, so AHS sent a company out here. The guy said that it was running and that AHS wouldn't pay for it if it was running water. But it was leaking everywhere in three places, so of course it was running water. And he wouldn't stay here long enough to even let me watch when it turned on. So I called American Home Shield and I was very happy they called that contractor, Circa. They said they'd come back out and check it out again. When the guy came, he said I needed a second opinion as he didn't see anything wrong. And he was so rude. But I told him that I've already okayed it through American Home Shield that if I bought a faucet, he would put it in. So he put the faucet in, not wanting to do it. Then, the plunger doesn't work and it's on crooked.

This is a first-class home warranty program. I originally bought this house three years ago and the sellers provided me American Home Shield. For some reason, I changed companies the next year and I really got messed over. So, I came back to AHS. I've had two calls on my warranty and they've done an exceptional job. Everything has been great.
Recently, I put a claim in on a Sunday and AHS provided a contractor that same day. Myers, the contractor, called that same day and said, "Is it okay if we come out tomorrow between 9:00 and 10:00". The techs were very knowledgeable. They provided me quite a bit of information and took care of the problem.

Our upstairs heating unit was not working effectively. The contractor came out one day to do the assessment. The tech had to order the part. And within a couple of days, they came back out and replaced the circuit board. It works fine now. I like keeping American Home Shield because of the simplicity. We don't have to search for the maintenance companies. They already have a list. A couple of the companies have been questionable in the past. And either have not resolved the issue or we had to call a secondary company because it ended up that what they said they can do, they couldn't. But for the most part, they have been able to resolve whatever needs to be resolved.

I had a stopped up toilet that was backing up. I notified American Home Shield by phone. I was on hold for a while, but once I got the reps, they cooperated. They told me they were going to contact a plumber and have them to come out. They told me who the company would be and the approximate time they would come out. Wood Action Plumbing did a pretty good assessment. They told me what they thought I should do, and they gave me their assessment and they said that they would turn it to AHS.
I received a note from AHS that they don’t cover my problem. I had to get a new company. Prominent came out. They recommended to have a camera picture taken of it. The guy said that with a camera and from what he and I discussed and what he told me what they could do, I feel like the plumber could have gotten to it. If you're considering AHS, read the fine print and be tough on what you hear and say.

Then I found out the next day that they had technical issues. But usually, they answer right away. They've been very professional. The repair guy was nice and instructed my wife on what the issue was and what he was gonna do. It got done in a timely manner, so she was happy about that. Bur we then had an issue with the oven getting extremely hot. We actually ended up burning a couple of meals. It started giving us that F code again. The repair people are due out today at 10:00 to look at the oven again and to figure out what happened.
I’ve had American Home Shield in some shape, form or fashion over the last 24 years. There was a couple of times that I didn’t really care for the package. I had some problems with some claims that I made and was not satisfied so switched over with tp Choice. Choice ended up being a million times worse so I moved back over to American Home Shield. They ordered the part and he came back two days later. He took five minutes to put it back on. Having a home warranty will save you on the back end especially if it comes down to an air conditioner unit. Nobody has thousands of dollars. It's easy to pay the service fee, let techs come and see what's going on and let them fix it. But AHS should lower the service fee agreement. When I started off with them, it was $50. Now, it's 100.

AHS is a good company. What they say they're gonna cover, they're gonna cover. However, in Florida it's different. Most people have their pumps for their water inside their house. But since Florida is a slab, they put them outside the house. So, anything outside the house, AHS won't cover. But it's the same sewage stuff that they would cover if I lived in Indiana or Chicago because that's all kept inside the house.
But when I lived in Chicago, we had American Home Shield and my heater went out and they came out that day to fix it. Then, my air conditioner went out and, though they wouldn't fix it, they gave me some money. But I paid somebody, one of their technicians, to do it, and he screwed the whole thing. He used the wrong parts. AHS said, "Call another air conditioner guy and see what they say." AHS covered the whole $8,000 to repair what that guy tore up. They've given me good service and if something's broke, I have no problems calling them and getting work done. I even use the service guys that American Home Shield sends over here. They're my regular guys now when I need something done that AHS doesn't cover.

The furnace wasn't keeping up with the cold. As it went down, there was water coming out on the floor, down into the drain, where it shouldn't have been. We called American Home Shield and Always Air responded quickly. The technician did a lot of troubleshooting to make sure he could try to fix it. He wound up coming back and forth and eventually, the furnace had to be repaired. On the second time, they had to order a part. They weren't able to get it on the same day but were back early the next morning. They tried not to have to replace it. But they got it up and running and he told me this could go for forever. It could run for a day or two and have problems again. He told me what to look for, where the water was gathering. He told me also how to drain it. Essentially, the water was backing up and causing a switch to fail. He showed me how to troubleshoot it myself to keep it running well. I had to call them to come back out but I'm very happy with Always Air.
I never had an expectation that when American Home Shield got to replacing the furnace they would pay for the whole thing. But I got more than a fair benefit from them and they worked with the contractor on the back and forth. They kept me aware of what was going on because they would send me texts and emails, letting me know about on their side what was happening with the contractor. The contractor also told me what was going on so I had a very good experience with both.

I did everything with the claims process online because trying to get ahold of someone was a little difficult. There are too many different steps you got to do. AHS should have a better way to get in touch with a live person, instead of pushing multiple different buttons. It seemed like they were asking you the same question just to get you to a certain individual. It should be faster, especially if it's an emergency situation.

The guy from A+ Comfort Air came out for a claim and did work for quite a few hours but in those hours, everything was fixed. But the online aspect of the claim process should become a little more user-friendly when it comes to breakdowns because it doesn't really explain what can be broken down on the machine. It's just in general concept of, “The furnace is broken.” It doesn't really give an explanation on what it could be. But when I called, the rep was very knowledgeable and helpful. They were able to help out a little more on what the issue could be.

I had the techs come out for the garbage disposal. The first guy who came out said it obviously didn't work and he would process the paperwork. I didn't hear anything so I called back and found out that he said that it couldn't be repaired, it was my problem. AHS sent somebody else out and the guy came out and replaced it right away. That was the positive part. The negative part was the first experience.
Then I had another person come out and they replaced the lint holder in my dryer, which they did fine. But then the icemaker in my refrigerator was not working. They came out and they had thawed out all the ice that had built up in there. They looked at it and they said they would order a part. They ordered the part but they couldn't get the actual part. They were turned down on getting the part so they had to use their own ingenuity to try to fix it and they did, but it never made any ice.
I called back and they came out, and the guy said he knew right away what it was, that if they'd been allowed to get the part that they needed, it would have been fixed and working fine. So he was going to apply something else but he saw you might have something in his own shop. Apparently, he didn't, so now they're sending somebody else out.
The problem I'm having with them is their timing. They'll tell me someone will be there between this time and this time, and they’ll call before. The first company that came out that I thought had done a pretty good job and was waiting for them to get this replacement part never called. I happened to be working at home in my office, which looks out into my driveway, and the truck pulled up. But I never got any pre-warning that they were on their way.
Then this last one, they said they would be here between 11:00 and 2:00, and nobody called to remind me. I waited that entire time. I waited to 2:15, to 2:30, to 2:45. Finally, I had to go. I needed to pick up my granddaughter from high school. While I was in the process of doing that, I got a phone call from the company. The man was at the door. I said, “I'm sorry. I waited the time that you said and 45 minutes extra. No one ever called to say they were going to be delayed. If they had I could have made other arrangements for my granddaughter to be picked up. But nobody did.” So I was in another town.
Now they're going to send somebody else out, and I hope that they know what they're doing ‘cause I'm getting a little bit annoyed that I keep getting these promises and it doesn't get repaired. I'm debating whether I'm going to call somebody or just call somebody independently to come and look at it because I don't think that could be worse. I'm not sure I would recommend AHS to somebody else because of the experiences I've had.

I talked to one lady at AHS and she told me that the guy was there. I told her that he was there but he didn't do anything. It was a complete miscommunication. We couldn't understand each other. In the end, I just gave up. I tried calling May again and again. The last lady that I talked to said that the part is on order. But they have their suppliers. I told her I could get it on Amazon and delivered within a day. She insisted that they were waiting on their suppliers. But it's not possible that they wait since the 4th. It's already three weeks.
American Home Shield was recommended to me by my neighbor here. He said that he was happy with them. When I approached them, they were very fast. That person said that we tampered with the unit. We didn't know anything about it. We went round and round and round and Home Shield didn't want to fix it. They wanted to blame the existing condition on us. Each time somebody came out, it was a different company and one company is pointing blame to the company that came prior. We were so frustrated, they offered a payout program of half of what the expense was and we'd go find somebody else and get it fixed on our own. That's what we ended up having to do. Going through customer service and claims was the worst because they did not want to take responsibility.
But within the last month when we got trouble with our heat, they sent out Ultra Heating and Cooling who was fabulous. Their tech was on time and knowledgeable. He communicated and he was courteous. Also, our first experience with Home Shield was when the refrigerator went out and they got us a brand new refrigerator. We bought this house and the inspector we had told us that we would have to have the outlet worked on. It was an emergency so I had our private plumber come out. We found the same kind of problem in the rest of the house so I used Home Shield to have the other plumbers come out and do the other job. I used the chatbox and Home Shield got back to me right away. I was very pleased with that. The technicians' office contacted me the first time. The second time, I just went straight to the chase. Home Shield said that if within a certain time period they don't contact me, I should contact them. I was under time constraints so I called the technicians that they paired us up with.
The technicians were very conscientious. They told us when they were arriving and they were wearing masks, which was one of my requests. The second time they came, I didn't request the masks. They automatically did it. They did good work and they were very careful. I told them that our private plumber said a valve needed replacement. They said, "We don't replace the valve unless we can't fix it." That was making it clear what they were willing to do within the confines of whatever contract they have with Home Shield.
I would recommend this home warranty. They have been very conscientious, especially about making sure that somebody is paired with us right away. It's beyond their control how fast somebody gets out here because technicians have their own style of how they schedule their services. This was the first time we had a home warranty plan like this and I would definitely extend it when it's up. It's good that they can pair us up. I have a feeling that if I were dissatisfied with the service that we got or any of the technicians, Home Shield would probably follow up on that.

When I had a claim for a drain pump that wasn’t working, AT Appliances came out and replaced it. But it took them two months to get it done. Then they caused a leak in the dishwasher. So I put in another claim. I was really pissed off about it. American Home Shield wasn't that helpful. AT Appliances was supposed to fix the dishwasher but on the day that they were coming out, their guy called out sick.
North Pole came out for the dishwasher and at first, it looked like their fix didn't fix it. So we had to reopen the claim. But then a week later, it stopped leaking. So whatever they did, it fixed it. I was supposed to have AT Appliances come out again for the dishwasher because originally, I thought North Pole didn't fix it. But their guy got sick again. I was super unhappy with AT Appliances and I don't want to ever deal with them again. American Home Shield noted that so they sent out North Pole when I had a claim for the washing machine, and they were great. The washing machine was leaking water. The tech was super professional and he fixed the issue. We've used American Home Shield about five times, so it's come in handy.

The plumbers that came out were great. The only issue was that they said some of the items were not on the list. They said the items were not part of plumbing. There was an exterior drip that was happening and you associate water with plumbing. When I asked what needed to be fixed there, he said that it was not plumbing but it was an AC issue. So I called back American Home Shield and tried to talk to three associates and they didn't understand what we said. It's been very strange to try to get to them and to make them understand what you're trying to say. It's very frustrating at times.
There is an air gap that's located above the sink, but it's not plumbing. It's part of the dishwasher. I was trying to tell the American Home Shield associate that that was put under plumbing but that was not a plumbing issue. It is an appliance issue. So I asked if she could get me an appliance technician who will take care of my AC that was dripping outside and the air gap, which also falls under appliance. She said she didn't understand. It was 40 minutes trying to explain and she refused. She said, “I cannot help you anymore.” So I called back Lindsay Company and talked to them and told them, “Could you tell me what the notes say?” Because they also send the notes in to American Home Shield saying that these were not covered. I've already paid for the service. But it's been almost three weeks, and we've not made any progress. I've just given up.
I like American Home Shield. I recommended them to all my friends. I like their policies. I like every part of American Home Shield, minus the customer service reps. They should take more English-speaking people because it's very hard for them and it's very frustrating for the client. The reps are very polite but they're not able to understand and comprehend anything. American Home Shield needs to take a diverse set of representatives.

Also, the panel on my oven is digital and it's slowly having less and less visibility of the digital's parts. But the service I had was good. I paid 75 bucks upfront and then, somebody came. The guy was knowledgeable and on time. We looked for services to work around the house and we couldn't get anybody to come. They would come and give a quote, but you couldn't get them to come back. So, kudos to American Home Shield on even getting somebody to come and do the work. We were happy about that.

For some reason, the electrical outlets on half of my kitchen weren't getting power. One of the switches had gone bad so it was affecting the other ones that were on the same circuit line. The repair guy came the next day and replaced that one, and everything works fine. In all the times I’ve done claims with American Home Shield, only one experience went badly and they were good about taking care of it. It was the company that they sent me to that I had a problem with, not AHS. The company was supposed to get back to me within 24 to 48 hours and they could get here in five days. But that was not the thing and they were rude when I was talking to them. So, I told AHS I didn't want to work with that company. They sent me someone else who came out the next day and everything was taken care of. AHS has been good for me.

They've been timely and they communicate. Recently, there was a burning smell that was occurring in the bathroom and it had to do with the heater that was in there. American Home Shield has taken care of my stuff they said they would. There was one thing that was scheduled that has not been taken care of. The person who came and did the refrigerator did a very good job. I liked it very much. That was a month ago. Also, the dishwasher was not working. The contractor needed a part and they ordered it. That hasn’t come in.
There was one thing that was wrong on the garbage disposal that was leaking. But the person said that he only takes care of appliances. And he said a plumber needs to come and take care of the garbage disposal. I have not heard anything about when that person is going to come. It's a little slow, but so far, we have not had any emergencies. So, I'm satisfied. They came and did the job.
I needed the heating and the air conditioning unit looked at. So, I made the appointment. Somebody called and said they wouldn't do it mainly because it was maintenance. They didn't have time for it. I said, “That's ridiculous.” I want to do maintenance, I’m paying for it, before something breaks down and ends up being a costly repair. Why wouldn’t they do it?

I like having AHS for the simplicity of having a one stop shop to deal with any household issues as a starting point. The only frustration I had was when our toiler wasn’t working and we only have two in the house, we were stuck with waiting till Monday. This happened on a Friday and if they had said that instead of 75, it’s 100 if I want it expedited and they would send someone out on Saturday, I would have selected that option. It was an emergency situation, but there wasn't an option for emergency. It was simple fix. Once the repair guys were able to get here on Monday, it was taken care of within a matter of moments.

Everything was automated. Everything was through text messages and emails, which is great and wonderful, and the system seemed like it worked okay. But I wanted to talk to somebody. Prior to coming, A&E had a window of five hours and that doesn't work for me but I couldn't get through to them. It's an automated service. One time I got through but if you don't say what they want you to say, they hang up. It's all computer. That was my first hiccup. I would like a little more interaction with the technician or customer service, where they can talk to the technician and we can go back and forth a little bit. Also, AHS said the contractor would contact me prior to coming and I was expecting a phone call. It would be nice to hear from the guy where he's at and where he's going.
The tech came in and he diagnosed the problem. He told us he has to look into ordering a motherboard and a computer board. He said he's gonna order the part, AHS is gonna drop-ship it to our house, and they're gonna come back out. But there's no way it is all gonna work out that way. I asked if he could give me a card and if there is someone I can talk to but all he keeps telling me is to call the number for A&E.
A few days went by and I did not hear anything. I went online to AHS and it showed the job to be completed. It was nowhere close to being completed. We haven't gotten any parts and the guy hasn't come back out. I called A&E and they told me to call AHS and do a recall. I called AHS and told them I do not want another technician from the same company coming out here seven days later to tell me the same problem and that he'd order the parts. AHS is the middleman and they're just doing their part but they need to work on their communication with who they hire.

The process with American Home Shield is quicker if you do it on the website. Calling in to talk with someone is a bit clunky 'cause of the steps and the procedures to try to get to a live person. Pacific Home Appliance was competent but lately, I've had some different experiences with some of the vendors. This is the third technician in two months to repair the burner elements in the oven. They started in the beginning of December. A technician came out, checked out the stove, said there are multiple parts that needed to be replaced and he was gonna submit it. I didn't hear anything and called back in, and he hadn't even submitted the invoice. Then he did that but we didn't hear from them again.
About a month later, I called in and got someone else to come out. He was training someone. They checked out some of the things and they worked what he was gonna order (some burner dials), then they'd come back on a date that he said. No parts came so I called back in, and found out he closed that order. We didn't hear from them again. The third technician is coming out today. Hopefully, we'll be successful this time.

But three days later, the same wet spots were noticed. So we call them back and then they looked at it. They said it was a different place that leaked. Some other thing was loose and they fixed it. I would have expected American Home Shield to follow up and asked me if the issue was resolved or not. Also, the contractor itself was not up to the quality. The contractor left in a rush. If that would have been better, I didn't have to deal with the problem twice.

They promptly came out and the tech was good. But, the people AHS sends out are usually not very good. They sent somebody out to work on AC and they were basically useless. Three people came out and they wanted to cut the system in pieces and pressurize it all in order to find out where the leak was. They told me that it would take six weeks to complete the pressure test and to fix the machine which in the middle of summer when we're going through a heatwave is completely ridiculous.

What happened was American Home Shield was offering a free service on the HVAC system. You schedule an appointment to have your HVAC done. What I had scheduled was for the heating and tune-up. The service people from Honesty Mechanical never came and they never called either. American Home Shield kept going back and forth saying the claim was closed out. But how could that be when no one ever came. The lady told me she had to call the contractor to confirm that they didn’t come.
I called three or four times and there was no way to lodge a complaint with American Home Shield. I asked for somebody because there was a major language barrier. We could not get past that. I’m going to renew my home warranty. When I bought my house, the previous owners purchased the home warranty so I had the benefits of that. Right now, my furnace, hot water tank, and air conditioning unit are old. I saved a lot of money on the hot water tank by using American Home Shield. On the other hand, some companies oftentimes don't want to use the home warranty. J&A is debating whether they're going to continue having warranty customers because they don't make as much money on it. It's a good company and I would hate to see them leave.
When my furnace was broken, it was on 16 degree day. The first company American Home Shield gave me was going to put me off for three days before they would come to fix it, which was a real problem. If that's the case, you're going to go outside the network and pay yourself. But J&A came the next morning. As long as American Home Shield has companies like that to cooperate, the home warranty is worth it.
The other thing is the first time I used American Home Shield, I was having trouble with my swimming pool. They also sent me emails and texts that the contracting company was notified and they’d be notifying me, and if they don't notify me, to call them.
The young man was very nice, respectful, and polite. When he came out the first time, took care of the job at the time that need to be done. Later on, there was another slow drain. Called them out. But when he came out, they weren’t able to find any small drainage going on in the kitchen sink, which probably got taken care of by whatever we poured down the drain to loosen everything up or the suction we were doing with the plunger to help unclog whatever was there. But other than that, the young man just said, “Since you don't need anything and we can't find a slow leak, just contact us again when you need us. Then we went out and bought a new one. Other than that, I've had some really bad experiences with some of the people that AHS contracted. I had one gentleman wanting me to pay him all the work ahead of time and I refused. I told him I've never had to do that to a contractor. I also spoke to a friend of ours who's a plumber who said that he didn't need certain things that he charged me for. I Then, I had a couple of contractors that never came back. I had one who fixed our washer and ended up breaking another part. They said they’d get back to us and when we called them back a couple of times, they never answered. Aside from that, the dude that came out left all his trash here. He just picked up his one tool and walked away.
So, I don't know if some of the companies are getting paid correctly or they're not and they're giving us half-service. Aside from my plumber friend, I have another one who does appliances, and they said that AHS don't pay out as much as somebody could come and get independently. So, the service they give is not that great. But other companies have been great. I had Sears recently where the guy came out and told the truth. We ended up getting a refrigerator and he explained to us how to keep that one up. So, it's been a hit and miss sometimes, 60-good, 40%-not so good.

They've had to use it for their icemaker and for something else, and they've been very happy too. My former boss and his wife also got a policy through American Home Shield because of the level of service that I was getting.

I've been without a stove since June. The very first appliance repair company that AHS used was terrible. They really didn't do a full assessment. They just automatically thought they knew what was happening. I didn't hear back from them. I constantly called and tried to get on their schedule. If you go to their website, you'll try to plug in a date and it's like two months away. I called American Home Shield, "Can you guys help me?" They were like, "Okay. We'll do it again." They claimed they showed up the second time. But they never showed up, even when I scheduled the date. So it was a bad experience.
But American Home Shield has been very good to me. I really like them. The claim process is very easy. They're very eager and enthusiastic customer service representatives. So when I call for a claim, they put my mind at ease, that it's okay, that's why I have insurance. Their customer service was great. They treated me very well.

It has been a complete runaround every time we call. We had a huge problem with our refrigerator, which was a bad experience because American Home Shield kept sending out techs that didn't have the expertise for a KitchenAid. And come find out that AHS had people that specialized in that particular brand. But it took us multiple business, multiple calls, to even get the right person here to take care of it. If AHS got a specialized piece of equipment, like a KitchenAid that everyone doesn't work on, and they have someone under their umbrella that specializes in it, give us that person the first time instead of having us hook up with different people who don't know that brand. They should try to mirror the contractor with the product since they are going to service.

The warranty has been helpful so far. The providers were knowledgeable and professional. They fixed the microwave. The other one they did was for the ice maker in the fridge. They told me exactly what they needed to do, they placed the orders for the part, came back when expected, and did the work and the time frame that we discussed. It was the same person that came out every time. He made sure that everything was working. He tested the units multiple times before he left. The microwave took a bit longer than a month, just because we had to wait for parts to come in. The ice maker took a couple of weeks. Everything works great now. Get American Home Shield.

They needed to confirm what my contract covered and the phone lines must have been busy with American Home Shield so they couldn't get that immediate information. I just had a situation dealing with a washing machine and the customer service representative provided incorrect information, so it led to a series of things that became an issue. But otherwise, I'm satisfied with American Home Shield and I have recommended them to other people.

American Home Shield had somebody call me and set up a video diagnosis. I showed them the appliances and what they looked like. I opened the dishwasher and showed them the standing water. Then they ordered the parts and called me a couple of weeks later and told me that I was scheduled to have somebody come out. So they came out and fixed it. The tech was great. In one of our units in our home, the sensor went out for the heat. The company was out here the next day to fix it. The tech did what he was supposed to do. However, it's hard to get through to AHS. They need better customer service. Back in the summer, my refrigerator went out and it took two months to get a refrigerator because they kept saying, “Fix. Fix.” The technician that came out plainly told them, “There is no fixing to this refrigerator.” Then they sent another technician out to check the Freon in it, and he told them the same thing. “It's not fixable. It’s too old.” I really wasn't too happy with that experience because that is ridiculous that I had to do without a refrigerator for two months while I was waiting on them, so we finally just went and bought one. They refunded eventually.

So far, I like American Home Shield's promptness, and the communication is awesome too. When they assign a request, they give me the technician's details. I like this home warranty because it covers things that most home warranties don't. For example, with the refrigerator, I needed to call for my icemaker. I had to wait for the selected provider to call me and schedule it even though I've already paid for the service. But it worked out fine. The guy that came out looked at the garbage disposal an said that I needed to replace it. He looked at the model, the type of garbage disposal and what the horsepower was. American Home Shield needs improvement as far as their contractors go. Whenever they have to dispatch Sears, it is a nightmare. Two years ago, it was the year COVID started, my freezer stopped making ice so we called them. After a few months and many times different contractors coming out, they finally got the ice working. But then my whole freezer itself wasn't working. They finally got the freezer working, then the whole fridge stopped working, just for my icemaker. Once that was determined that they couldn't get all of them fixed in sync, it still took quite a while before they approved a replacement refrigerator. We were given more of a hassle than anything. During COVID, I didn't need all these people coming into my house constantly.
We just bought an amended package with American Home Shield that covers Freon for the heat pump, whereas, before, they only covered some pounds of Freon, and if we've got an issue going on and they have to take that Freon out, then we're being charged to put it right back in, so that was not right. Nonetheless, we have been very happy. The refrigerator instance, and I don't know where the whole thing stemmed from. I wish they could get a little bit more local vendors. They dispatch somebody from an hour and a half to two hours away.

The only thing is I normally just pay for the $100 copay, but they had to put Freon in my unit so I had to pay for the Freon which was about another $100. Also, I paid for the more upgraded versions than my friend. And it seemed like she had more benefits than I did, which I don't know if it's because I had it longer. I did call Billy's back and asked about that and they said something that I would need to cancel my service through AHS and get a new policy to be under the new changes, which I thought was kind of ridiculous. The tech showed up and did his job. It was good. The only thing that wasn’t great was the five-hour time window. That should have been shortened down, instead of, “We can make it between 12:00 and 5:00.” So, that screwed up my entire day. There was one time that they got the wrong part, and they had to cancel the visit. So half my day was wasted there. Then the guy got sick and he couldn't go, so they canceled that also. But when he showed up, he was fine. He was in and out in five minutes. Everything worked when he was finished. It was a $100 deductible for the guy to come out. But the service call generally in the area is about 75 bucks just for someone to show up. For a $20 repair that takes five minutes, it shouldn't necessarily be a $100 deductible.
The first problem that I had a claim with American Home Shield was for the evap cooler. It turned into a major issue because I did something that seemed to be the right thing to do. I had a major leak, so I capped off the water supply. But it was the wrong thing to do. When the guy came up, he said, “That's defective. The water supply is capped off. We can't approve it.” So this was a catch-22. I had to cap off the water supply so I wouldn't continue to have a flood. But because the water supply was capped off, it meant that there was an alteration to the system, by American Home Shield's definition. So it turned into a major fight.

You have to pay a co-pay for having this service. But for example, with the hot water heater that could have cost anywhere up to 1,000, that was beneficial not having to pay out-of-pocket. I have a little bit of an issue with American Home Shield. Our order was supposed to be acknowledged and the information sent to us because our washer was not repairable according to the gentleman that came out and checked it. So, we ordered a new one from the company and we hadn't had any response back. We had called for the exception of the response for who the person that was supposed to be bringing and delivering and installing it. I had that number and we've called that twice. The first time, we got hung up on. The second time, they didn't know about the order. So, we waited two more days and called Home Shield. They sped it up. We just got a notification today that it's going to be delivered on the 9th of February. We had an order that we did have problems with in the beginning, but it was between the shipper and the installer and Home Shield did straighten it out.
We had a previous repair for the garbage disposal right after we moved into our condo. The gentleman came out and fixed that the first time. We've been here about a little over a year, and we had another call that we had to put in because it was leaking all over the bottom of the cabinet. It was not related at all to the first gentleman that came and repaired it because it worked for quite a while after that. But it was something that they had to replace.

I wasn’t very happy with American Home Shield. It was a very lengthy claim for the hot water heater that was leaking as far as the turnaround time and the explanation of the extra cost that we had to pay out of pocket. I felt yanked around for that whole month we were waiting for a hot water heater. My husband met with the technician the first time and he seemed fine. But when I would try to email or call them, we never got ahold of them. He came out the 20th of December and said they would submit what was wrong with hot water heater. From then on, I called them. My call went to voicemail. They were supposed to call us back but never did. When I would email them, they would ask if I agreed to the charges. I asked them if they could explain to me what the charges were and they would never answer me. I wouldn’t want to work with them again. I even called American Home Shield to ask if they could send someone else out.
I kept calling back to American Home Shield. Somehow, someone sent me to the payout department and I was able to understand that person. It was $650 worth of modifications. I didn't understand that and no one would explain to me what exactly it was for. She had said we could do a payout or find somebody. But when I understood what it was, that amount probably was cheaper. Then it still took some time because they said their supplier needed to reorder it as it was not in stock.
When the contractor finally came out and do the hot water heater, they put it in. The only thing is they thought something went to the filler so it didn't have water to our last bathroom and bedroom. They came back out last week and fixed that. However, there's still a leak from something. The repairman told me if it's still leaking over the week, they can look at it. I'm confused and don't even know what this is and what this is going to cost. That would be another claim.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your unresolved concerns.

American Home Shield provides excellent service for me. If you do submit a service request online and you don't know the internet, it can be a little difficult but still doable. They have an option where you can call them directly. The people who have been out here have been thorough. I watched them. They were friendly. They wore their masks. I gave them shoe covers to put on. They didn't say anything about it. They just put them on. They explained to me step-by-step what they've done, so I would know what was done. Then after that, they were gone and I got something indicating that the job was complete.
When my HVAC unit went out, Above Par came out, inspected it, ordered a heating strip and they put the heating strip back on. What I would suggest to other people now, with the experience that I've had, would be to find out what AHS means exactly by if they can't fix it, they will replace it because it doesn't mean what it says. I've learned from Above Par that they'd rather fix it a million times than replace it.

It was my washer and dryer, and both of the dates that ADA had for the order to come in and to repair were two weeks out. They instructed me to call American Home Shield and get authorization for them to come out and repair the part that was in-house that they had there and to keep the ticket open so that when the other appliance part came, they will come out a second time. I got the authorization from AHS, but when I called ADA back, they told me that they don't do that, even with the approval from American Home Shield. I had already been going to the laundromat, and I was done. I went and purchased a brand new set.

I've used American Home Shield a few times and I've been pretty happy with the service. They're always really prompt to get someone here as quickly as they can. A couple of times, they had to order parts for me. We've lived in the house for 10 years, and the garage door wasn't going down, but it would come up. The guy got here and he kind of knew what the problem was. We'd deduced that when we were removing our Christmas decorations out, someone might have kicked the little photosensor on the bottom and it was out of alignment. I had checked my owner's manual to troubleshoot and it said to look for the light that was on there. The light was on. But he said, “You have to really get down on your knees and look at it directly because if it's flickering, it's not set. It has to be steady light." So he adjusted it and it worked fine.
When I do a repair request online, within 10 minutes, I get an email telling me to either call the contractor or they will contact me within 24 hours. That's always been the case. We have a ceiling fan in our bedroom that we paid a lot of money for and the remote control went out on it. They replaced the remote control with something that didn't have all the features of the original. I pointed it out to the guy before he left, but he said that was the only remote control that Home Shield would cover. I read on the contract that that's their prerogative to do that.
The original remote might not have even been available anyway, because at that time, it was about eight years old. But the ceiling fan works good. We can control it on and off. But a lot of the variable speeds or brightness don't work. I also called Home Shield for the water heater one time, but they said that it was a maintenance issue and they don't cover maintenance issues. Other than those two instances, every other time they've been really prompt and professional. Also, the people they send out are local people.

With AHS it's always been a really good process. I pay the $120 deductible and they schedule the service. I’ve never had a bad problem where they didn't take care of something or didn't cover something. I had a leaking faucet in my bathtub. AHS gave Patriot Plumbing a call and they called me. They thought the issue was a bad cartridge in the faucet control so they fixed that as well as a weepy sink in the bathroom. That went really well.
I have another claim there's an electrical company that AHS sent out to replace a basement bathroom fan. The only issue is that the fan unit they found for replacement didn't have a light on it where my previous one did. So they said they were going to come back with the internal guts of the replacement to put a light in. They have come back yet and it's been a week.
AHS's warranty is a good value. Like in the case of the bathroom cartridge for the leaky tub faucet, the cartridge itself was $90. So if I pay the $120 deductible, and the part itself is 90 bucks, the warranty closely pays for itself with the service.

My washer, dryer and refrigerator had issues simultaneously. First was the call for the dryer then two days later, both the washing machine and the refrigerator broke. The repair man had to fix the springs in the washer and the tumbler, and now, it's working great. The dryer had the clip in the front that couldn't shut the door, so we had to replace that. With the refrigerator, ice had built up and was stopping the fan. It was the heating mechanism that wasn't heating and the repair man had to replace it. He had to come out a couple of times because he didn't know that was the heating mechanism till he started pulling apart the refrigerator. He was great.
Overall, everything's well and I've been happy. I'm waiting now for the plumber for my toilet and sink that's decided to break down on me. We had a lot of issues in one bathroom, low to no water pressure in both tanks, the toilet wasn't filling up properly and there was smell coming from the drain. The contractor gave us some stuff to clean the drains, fix the toilet, and replace some pipes underneath the faucet. Everything worked except for the faucet so we're going to have to do a faucet replacement. I was told that that ticket had to be closed out, and then we'll do a recall where they come back out and we try something else to fix the problem. On the website, I would have liked a comment section where I could kind of explain what was going on instead of just ticking the boxes because it was several things that were kind of connected. But it ended up being okay because Mr. Rooter called and I explained it to them.

American Home Shield is really nice and really, really friendly. They are very helpful. But it takes a long time to connect and get things done through all the subcontractors they give you. My refrigerator broke down on December 28 and the parts were ordered on January 12. The guy from Express Appliance just installed the parts last week and it’s still making the same noise. Express Appliance is no good. When I had something else happen and American Home Shield said they were going to give me Express Appliances, I told them, “Please give me someone else.” So they sent me GE Appliances. American Home Shield is great but their subcontractors are not up to spec. I live in South Plainfield, New Jersey and most of these subcontractors are coming from 30 or 40-minute rides from me. Also, a lot of their subcontractors close at 4:00.
I have a dishwasher that still hasn't been installed. It's been a month now. Mr. Appliance was supposed to do the dishwasher. I called the lady and said, “You're supposed to come to do the dishwasher.” She said, “We don't do dishwashers.” So I’m wondering why American Home Shield connected them to me to do the dishwasher. I called American Home Shield and they said Mr. Appliance handles dishwashers. Then someone from her office called me on Friday night at 7:00 and said they're coming Monday. I asked her, “Aren't you the one who adamantly said, 'I don't do dishwashers'?” She said, “We're making a special deal for you.” That makes no sense.

I bought a new home a little less than a year ago, I filed a claim because my hot water heater was leaking...specifically the drain catch pan. They sent someone over who replaced a valve, and declined the pan. In the mean time, the value did not fix anything, the pressure release valve is still constantly dumping water out of it... Yes, into the pan, which leaks. We kept calling and getting blown off by the plumber. Needless to say I spoke to them again today and they ask me to pay another $75. I said, "Why would I pay you again to fix the same problem that you didn't fix the first time (multiple), I have no confidence that paying again will result in my satisfaction." All in all, this company and warranty is fraudulent. I'd urge anyone reading this to choose some else to protect your investment.

I called American Home Shield out to check my furnace and ATR came out. I told them I need a new thermostat. If I set it, it's not coming on when it's supposed to. The tech checked the thermostat and checked under the house. But he didn't do anything for me. I was told that I got to show him what it is. It has to be doing it when the tech gets here. That's 75 dollars every time I call and AHS has given ATR twice. I'm not really happy with them. Also, I called twice and they keep telling me I'm first in the queue. I'm not first in the queue. If I were first in the queue, I wouldn't be sitting on the phone for 15 and 20 minutes and nobody has come to the phone.
I had another claim at the rental property where it was something wrong with the pipes under the house. The contractor came out there and he told me the whole house needs to be replumbed and it'd be $5,000. He sent that to American Home Shield and they rejected it. I called my personal plumber and he replumbed everything that needed to be done for $800. The contractors are not as good as they used to be. I'm thinking about dropping American Home Shield because I'm not satisfied with these people who keep coming here. They better start cracking down on their contractors. It used to be good. I've had American Home Shield for 12 years. They even gave me new refrigerators and washing machines and they didn't have any problem with replacing those. But American Home Shield is not doing it anymore. They're disgusting to me.

My refrigerator was freezing at the top but wasn't getting cold at the bottom. The techs came out quickly but they had to order a part. When they came back a week later, one of the parts was the wrong one so they had to reschedule and it took another week. But when they were finally able to get the correct one, it was good. The guy told me to enjoy my new refrigerator so we’re enjoying it.
It’s nice to have the home warranty but I found out that American Home Shield doesn’t cover everything, mainly the garage. They covered some of the basic stuff. They had to come out two times because they didn't fix the issue the first time and we found out that it was the brain box that needed replacing. So they had to order that and put that up. But it shocked me that but they don't cover the garage door. The guy said that most standard warranty insurance don't cover the door. I asked the person that when I called AHS and she didn’t know either. Still, AHS did the work and I will recommend them. The two things I had done are working fine so I’m satisfied with them.

About a year ago, we had a claim for a toilet. They never finished fixing it and we couldn't get him to finish fixing it. We just gave up and got an outside person to work on it. At that time, we said we'd give American Home Shield one more time because we had had them for so long and we were happy with them. But after this last experience, we're done.
We had a bad experience with the refrigerator claim. The first group that came out said it can't be fixed. The tech said they would tell American Home Shield but AHS said they were not giving me a new refrigerator and they were going to get somebody else. The second contractor came out and they were awful. They did something in the refrigerator but what needed to be fixed was the icemaker and they didn't fix it. We talked to AHS again and they sent the third person out. The third contractor came out and ordered two more parts. It took a long time but they fixed it.
The whole process took three months. It was three months without using the freezer because we couldn't put anything in the freezer. They said to not put anything in it because when they come out, it has to be emptied. We lost all the food. I could have just gone buy a new refrigerator for all that aggravation. We also had a claim for our fireplace and SG Heating and Cooling came out. But they said they don't know anything about it and they couldn't do it. So we paid the $100 and we got a different company to fix it. I've canceled the warranty.
We do appreciate your feedback and apologize that this issue has caused you to cancel your warranty. It is not our intent to cause a difficult experience, and hopes that you would consider joining the AHS team in the near future. Have a great day!

I had a situation about a year ago where the garage door spring broke on the garage door. I went online and reported it. American Home Shield sent somebody and it turned out that it wasn't covered and I still had to pay my fee. I had to go on my own and get it. I felt that I was cheated or taken advantage of just because somebody showed up to look at it and American Home Shield could have told me that and just turned it off. I was very upset about that. The second situation I had was with the microwave, and it took three or four tries, but the tech finally got it fixed.
Then just two or three months ago, our refrigerator ice maker broke. The guy showed up and said, "We need to buy the part. But when you do that, you have to replace a whole door because they don't sell the part. So American Home Shield gonna have a problem with this." Weeks went by and I would follow up on it and said that it was damaged or abused that we had done, and it wasn't covered. We threw a fit on that.
Another guy came out who said that these things wear out and that American Home Shield doesn't like paying for this, so we might have some pushback on this. I said, "Well, let's try again." He came back a couple of weeks later and said that the parts were being made separately now so he was able to fix it. I understand that American Home Shield doesn't want to pay a lot of money to fix things that are not their fault. But by the other hand, it seems like they are trying to avoid making repairs and just collecting our money on a monthly basis.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your unresolved concerns.

There were a couple of instances that I was not happy with American Home Shield's service. My microwave broke around the 1st of October. I filed a claim and it took them all the way until close to December to get it fixed. I was told by the company that was contracted to fix it that they didn't have the part or it was American Home Shield's fault that it wasn't in. Then they ordered the wrong part and American Home Shield told me that. They were back and forth finger-pointing. I was not happy and so I called. They waived the $100 fee. But they put me in a big bind because of Thanksgiving as I had no microwave. I had dinner at my house so it was very inconvenient. I had to stay on top of the company as they didn't call and kept me updated like they should have. I kept having to call them to find out, "Where's the part? What's going on? How come the part is not in?"
My microwave was silver and black, and the guy that came to fix it at first had a white keyboard panel. He wanted me to just keep it until he could get the other part. I said I won't keep that part because my microwave is silver and he should not put a white panel on there then leave and say that he fixed it. He would have to order the right part then bring it back and fix it, which took forever.
The next thing was my washing machine went out and I filed a claim for that. The people whom AHS sent out looked at it and said that both tubs needed to be replaced which is about $300 apiece plus what would AHS cost for them to fix it. They would let me know what AHS's decision would be and give them a day or two to get the results. I called their office for two weeks. I still to this day never got a call saying what they were going to do. I waited almost a month before they told me that they were going to go ahead and offer me a replacement washer. All that time they told me the part was being ordered. I tried to talk to a supervisor, and the $100 fee for that was waived because again, this was unacceptable. It took me a month and a half to finally get my washing machine a replacement ordered.
When the washing machine came, I assumed that the people who came and evaluated the situation as to what was wrong with my washing machine would have looked at everything. One of the connections in the back of the washing machine where the hoses were hooked up was so rusted to the wall because it was on there so long and they couldn't get it off. They said that I would have to get those hoses replaced before they could hook it up. Well, if I was told about that, I could have had that done the whole month and a half that I've been waiting to get my washing machine. I had to file another claim to have the plumber come out and fix my connectors so the washing machine could be hooked up. Those two things were not good. I was totally dissatisfied.

The rep did a video with me, too, and I pointed to the part and told her it was not going back and forth. What the rep put down when they sent out the technician was that it wasn't going through a cycle. The tech from Accord Appliance didn't have the part that he needed. He said he had them but didn't put them in his truck because that was not what the work order said. If a rep doesn't understand how an appliance works, they shouldn't be answering the phone. The tech had to come out again a couple of days later. Other than that, the overall claim service has been very good.

AHS sent out someone to repair my Samsung dryer. The guy put it down so badly while he was here, that it was just a generic Samsung. They had my husband climb the roof three times to check the vent when we kept saying that the issue is not the vent. The time before this time, they're sending people out that don't know how to repair anything.
The problem is the people who they have answering the phones. I have a really hard time understanding them and they have to repeat themselves quite a few times. Then if I try to elevate any issues that I have that I know are not right they won't page the manager. Also, they won't transfer me to the cancellation department because I really wanted to cancel because I was having a really hard time with them. It felt like I was talking to a shark. The rep wouldn't let me get past her for anything and she wouldn’t listen to me.
I had to call in 10 times before I got help. They transferred me to the cancellation department and they had someone come. That person didn't know what to do. I said, “Don't tell the next service repair company that you guys called. Don't tell them what the issue is. I want a second opinion. Let them determine it.” They sent another personnel and they almost didn’t give me a second opinion. The tech already knew what the issue was. I said, ”They weren't supposed to tell you.” And he said, “Yeah, you got stupid Samsung. You have a generic Samsung. What do you expect?” Also, they were trying to charge me $75 again. I didn't trust what they were telling me. They're saying there's nothing wrong with my dryer when it was not heating so it wasn't drying my clothes. I said, “I don't understand this. I want to cancel.” And AHS gave me a free service charge which is what I used on one of the last calls and they gave me a $300 check for my dryer.
Recently, there was no hot water coming out of the heater. The last service was really excellent. But, I would have a very hard time recommending American Home Shield. The treatment that I had in 1999 'til I moved out here in 2011 was excellent. From then, it's just been going downhill. The time I had the worst experiences was 2020-forward. I've had some bad experiences before that but not like it has been these three years.

I'm very satisfied with the service. They're responsive. When the contractor is identified and notified they are responsive and timely. I’m satisfied with the work that they do. If I had to shop for my own and identify my own contractor or pay for the response fee, the parts and the labor, I'm sure I would have paid five times as much as I've had to pay thus far had I not had American Home Shield.
My experience has been fair and reasonable except for one. The work that the contractors sustains itself. I've never had to call them back for a second repair. In some cases, they give me some additional preventive maintenance advice. Then they identify other things that don't necessarily fall into the repair, but because of those observations, I was able to get some other work done that sustains my house. So, AHS is pretty good.

I had to keep calling them to resolve this (IT HAD BEEN DAYS AT THIS POINT). They approved that I get an outside technician. So I had to do the work and secure this other company. When they got here they told me they would charge $200 to even look at everything and give me a diagnosis.
We called them together and AHS said they couldn't approve anything until the company diagnosed the issue and spoke to them. So they went ahead and diagnosed the issue, documented it and spoke to TWO of their reps on the phone about it. This was not sufficient for them to approve the repairs. They still won't even approve the diagnosis. They are such scum. Stay far away. Also the team members will tell you they will reach out to you and they never will. You have to keep calling to get anywhere. It's so sad. You could have a huge emergency with your home and they do not care and will let a service request sit open for weeks. Every plumber I've ever had come out before, I have had to argue with. I had a leak in the wax ring. I used all my towels and the rugs on the floor to sop up the water and it was after three days because I didn’t use it. When the guy came, he flushed it and it didn’t leak because it had time to settle in. He said that there was nothing wrong there and he would be gone. I blocked him from leaving the bathroom and said that the wax ring flooded my bathroom and he wouldn't do anything. He stood there and he flushed my toilet 12 times in a row. He said it was not leaking a drop and he just went right past me. I was mad.
This time, my toilet clogged up twice. I plunged the daylights out of it as much as my back could tolerate. I even called my son over twice. He freed it up, but then it would clog again. My middle son freed it up once, and it clogged again, and it was Friday night right before Christmas. I was having 20 people in my house on Sunday. I had my friend, who's also my house cleaner, clean my back bathroom. Then in the middle of the night before Sunday, I, without thinking, went straight into the main bathroom and went potty. As soon as I started going, I realized that I shouldn’t have done it. I turned on the light, grabbed the plunger, flushed it, and started plunging away. It flushed a little better than it had been, still not quite right. I flushed it again and it went straight through. I made it through Sunday and most of Monday.
I called J & L Plumbing and their guy came out on Tuesday. Of course, the toilet was working fine when he was here, but then I told him what happened. When he flushed the toilet, it worked. I just looked and told him not to make me get mad at him like I did with the plumber that wouldn’t believe me that my wax ring was leaking. He said that even though he didn’t touch it in a way to fix it, he flushed it, so that meant that I'd have a 30-day warranty. If it clogs up again, I call them and they’ll be back out. Everything else was draining fine so he was determined that the problem was the toilet itself and so he would put it in for a replacement.
When I had my washing machine replaced, it was three and a half weeks before I got a phone call from American Home Shield. This was six years ago. So, when they said the toilet was going to be replaced, I was happy on one hand, and on the other hand, I thought this would take forever. Three days later, they called me and they said that they had the approval to get to a new toilet, they scheduled me the next day, and the guy would be out to fix it.
The only problem I have is that it’s not the regular height toilet, it’s not the handicapped toilet, it’s the in-between. I had had recent knee surgery so I was having problems getting up off the regular toilet that we had. I told J & L about it and they have been really good about keeping me informed every step of the way on what's going on. They're having trouble locating the height of toilets that I need, but they are bound to return to find me what I need. I've been really happy. I have had AHS for 30 years and I have stuck with them. The cost has gone up, which is a bummer, and so have the service calls. But that happens with everything. I have not had a bad experience with them.

But when I get to customer service, they're saying, “That is your account number.” I’m trying to figure out what's going on with the little automation person.
In my electric claim, I hit the metal cover in my loft and it triggered everything to black out my lights upstairs and in the laundry room. I wasn't sure if I had blown something or if something was more damaged. But turns out that it wasn’t. It flipped the switch in the box. The electrician came in and walked right out. This last one, I was having some sparks when flipping the switch in the wall to turn a light on in a particular room. I just asked them to come back and check those things. There was nothing that needed to be changed or fixed. Mae Dae Electric did what they needed to do and explained what was happening.

I like that with American Home Shield, if something comes up, I can pay the visit fee and a lot of stuff will be covered. My washer and dryer had been acting up for a couple of weeks and I finally found my paperwork and reached out to them. The techs came out and looked at it both, and ordered the part. Then, they came back and fixed it. It took probably about two weeks because the part had to be ordered and we had to wait for it to come in. The contractor was great as well as the service technician. He seemed knowledgeable, very courteous and quiet. He did his job and left. So, I have no complaints at all. It's been a great experience with AHS so far. You'll never know when an unexpected cost arises so when you're paying the $100 or whatever I'm paying every month, it makes that process less stressful. Then, they usually cover the replacement part. I heard they will replace the item if it needed replacing. But I haven't gotten there yet.

I've had to do a little bit of legwork to follow up on stuff and the techs came out to my house seven times trying to figure out an appliance. Right now, I called them out for a bunch of faucets and a hose bibb. The plumbers told me on multiple occasions that hose bibbs are not covered. However, in my plan, it does list hose bibb as being covered. Then, the plumbers continued to tell me that the only kind of hose bibbs that are covered are the frost-free hose bibbs, but it does not say that in my agreement. So, as of now, with A Plus Plumbing, I don't know what's going on with my faucets. They came out to fix them or replace them. The guy said that they were going to replace all of them but I called American Home Shield and they said I got to call A Plus. I called A Plus, left a message, and called again. But there had been no communication with this situation and as a consumer, I don't know who I should call on my behalf.
Sometimes American Home Shield tells you to call the person, but then you're just speaking with a certain department in American, not the right department. It seems like there are too many departments on the American Home Shield side and I don't know as a consumer which department I'm supposed to speak to. I would think that American would be on my behalf to follow up the contractor instead of me being the middleman. So, in this situation, I feel like I'm a middleman instead of American Home Shield being the middleman. Other than that, I would suggest anyone to buy American Home Shield. My issues are just minute stuff.

For the most part, AHS is very good. However, the first year that I had it, I had a lot of claims. So, the price almost doubled in the second year. After I talked to a few different representatives, they were like, "Oh, that's not right," and they finally dropped it back down. If I wouldn't have questioned them, I would have been paying double. But I like that I can do pretty much everything online. Then, I normally hear back from them within 24 hours, and then everything goes from there and they work very well with my schedule. They're timely and efficient when it comes to stuff. I've also met several of their employees and they've all been extremely nice, professional, good people. Lenny's Plumbing has been amazing. If I have questions, they stop, answer them and point things out to me.
I used to work for my sister, who was a Realtor, and she has used my story from when I bought my house several years ago. My first summer, my central air unit went out and I told them I paid less than $100 out of my pocket for a brand-new central air unit installed. She's used that on many of her clients to get them to use American Home Shield because that would have been a lot of money out of my pocket that I didn't have. I have been impressed with American Home Shield as well as my sister. She said she refers a lot of her clients to American Home Shield.

We've had Home Shield for a couple of years now and it's been easy. When we had an issue with our furnace this winter, support was quick and timely. The blower on the furnace went out and we were able to get somebody out within 24 hours.

The last guy who was here fixed my garage door. It wouldn't go up and down and the gears were ripped out of it. He did a wonderful job. He was very professional and he knew exactly what he was doing. He got the job done in a reasonable amount of time. I'd use him anytime. The only thing I don't like with AHS is the wait time. The tech doesn't come the next day. It takes them a week to 10 days to get out.
Other than that, AHS is a great program. They had called the next morning at 8 o'clock because they had technician in the area. But we didn't get the phone call 'til later that day.

My furnace stopped working. I called American Home Shield and getting through was very easy. However, I was given a $50 credit when I paid in full in October or September, but it kept showing that I still owed it. So, I had to deal with that. But they went ahead and did the service anyway, and it was excellent.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.

American Home Shield is very accommodating and helpful. The only issue that I have with them is the foreign intake people on the front end. They are sometimes not sure what to do. It kind of creates some complications. There's always something lost in translation and sometimes I have to call back and repeat myself three to four times before I can get what I want. But overall, I've been satisfied with the services that AHS has provided for me.
My first claim was when my electric went out. I put in the fee and an electrician came out and checked out my socket. I didn't have to pay a penny. I was just amazed by that. Also, while I was in the process, my dishwasher went out and AHS was able to send out a technician who checked it out. Then, instead of going through the whole cost of repairing it, they replaced it with a brand-new dishwasher. They are currently in the process of replacing my microwave as well and they fixed my ice machine in my kitchen. Pete's Appliance Repair's tech is the one that repaired most of my stuff. He always checked to make sure that the units are working and if not, he would come back without extra cost and just do it. I'm totally satisfied.

I had a garbage disposal issue and the techs got out within a day. Those techs have always done a great job. They replaced the disposal. Having AHS is always a good peace of mind.

The repair guy showed up a day early for the plumbing issue, which was wonderful. He taught us some things when he was there because what he had to do, we could have done ourselves. But being first time homeowners, we had no clue. So now we know. It was a clogged trap and the clog was outside of the house but it was before it got to the septic tank. Apparently, there's a trapdoor that you can open above that clog right there if it happens before you gotta call somebody. It was easy asking American Home Shield for the request to get the help. It was a quick process. I didn't have to pull my hair out, jump through hoops and wait 15 days to get a call. The ease of it was nice.
