Before, it would take a lot longer to get a response from American Home Shield's customer service, but now, it's so fast. I like that. American Home Shield also has good quality service from their contractors. I had a bad experience with Gary Appliance Repair though. I put a request for my microwave which was not warming up my food. When the technician came, he was getting instruction from the phone. He spent two, three hours then said that the two parts were not working. He told us that he ordered, and it would be fixed once we receive the parts. Later on, he came with the parts and again, it was two, three hours he was on the phone. Then he said the parts that he ordered were okay but there was another issue with another part. He was requesting American Home Shield to replace the microwave.
American Home Shield sent another contractor who said that the microwave was damaged. We received the new microwave and my issue with that contractor was that he spent lots of time and when he put the microwave together, there were a lot of screws leftover. He was not being professional as was expected. It will damage American Home Shield's market experience with their customers if they assign such contractor.
It would be great if there is an application for American Home Shield so we can install and use that app. Also, each year, my payment increases. I was paying 45 then it got increased to 50, and now, I'm paying 56. I'm afraid that in March when my contract will be completed and renewed, it will be another increase. There are a lots of other competitors and if American Home Shield also considers that cost efficiency with their customers, that would be great. But I'm recommending them to my other friends nonetheless.

American Home Shield's service sucks. You can never speak to anybody and there's no follow-through. When they tell you they're going to call you back, 90% of the time, they never call you back. The way the warranty program was initially sold to you and the way it really pans out in the end has changed dramatically now. I haven't really had to use it other than to make a call recently. I had them come out and check something out. Everything panned out okay from that particular deal. But in the past, things that they said they were going to do and things that they supposedly want didn't play out the way they said it was going to. The communication with them is the worst thing and their follow-up was even worse.
Most of the contractors that I've had through AHS have done as fine a job as they can based on the commitment from American Home Shield. They're negotiating at a fixed price and it's keeping the bread and butter on the table for them to do those calls, but most of them seem very professional and they spell out to you usually what they can and can't do based on what AHS will honor and they need to usually get back with AHS. I did have a claim on a refrigerator last year. When I bought that refrigerator, it was high-end. They say, "Well, they're gonna replace it with something comparable to what you had." I accepted the buyout on it, and I could never get a refrigerator comparable to what I had based on what they're willing to give me for it. So, that's another outright lie.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your unresolved concerns.

I had some leaky plumbing. The plumber came and did his work quickly. He was very professional, clean, and quiet. Having American Home Shield has been good for my age as I can't do the work now and it's hard for me to find contractors that can do the work because I'm not in the workplace anymore.

The claim submission process with AHS has been very seamless. I did have one issue with a washer that was a little bit of a challenge but mainly because the washer was a challenge. But three people had to come out to diagnose it before I got a washer replacement. In the end, the washer was replaced. So, I’m satisfied with the end result. I was just not happy with the length of time between calls and washer replacement. We also had a claim for a disposal repair. The tech was great. He did quick diagnostics. He replaced it while he was here. We had a good conversation. He was very respectful of our home and the workspace.

The gentleman that came out from All Desert Electrical was very professional and honest. He told me more than likely that the fixtures that I had him to look at would not be able to be repaired via my home warranty. However, he still wrote the report and took some pictures. I just got a letter from American Home Shield a couple of days ago which was dated December 27th. It took it almost a month. It would be easier if they straight up let me know if what I'm calling for is not covered instead of taking my little $75. Don't let me go ahead and schedule a service that they know is not going to be taken care of. But when I had an issue with my garage door, a contractor came out and fixed it.

An air vent didn't appear to be blowing so I placed a request online and AHS's site worked really well. R Harris AC & Heating came out and it was very professional with them. The problem could not be resolved but they left a few options on the work order of some things that their company could help out with in the future. I can't exactly read what they are, though, and there was no other follow-up from American Home Shield.
Then, the vent is blowing a very small amount of heat and that is not covered under AHS. I needed to discuss it with them because it doesn't seem quite right. But they said that because they were registering a very small amount of air coming out of the vent, technically, it is considered working and the policy would not cover any of it.

When my dishwasher was going out, American Home Shield had someone come and fix it. Having the warranty is very convenient. I don't have to call a lot of people asking for quotes, and it's a good way to do business. I just put in a request, the techs come and I pay my service fee. It's always very seamless, and the techs are always very nice and knowledgeable. They resolve the problem too.

I had an issue with the dryer and I filed the claim on a Saturday. The guy called me Monday and had me describe the situation that I was having. I gave him the serial number and the model number of my dryer and he said, "This isn't a part that just people have randomly sitting around because they differ model to model, from manufacturer to manufacturer. I'll order it for you today. Give me a couple of days and I'll be able to swing over and install it for you." He called it a skirt on the timer of my dryer, and it snapped off, which threw the timer off and one couldn't find out which setting the dryer was on. It's like a little plastic circle that attaches to the knob that will identify which cycle the dryer is on, so that knob has to be replaced. It took a few days and then he called me back. He came and knocked it out in five minutes.
It was something that I could have done myself, had I done the research. But my wife said to just get them to do it. If it happens again, I won't be paying 100 bucks through American Home Shield to get it done. I'll just order the part and do it myself. But it was nice to see that there was an issue that was quickly resolved and headache-free. Thus far, AHS has been worth the cost because it's like a peace of mind. Also, I did installment payments over the course of six months, or what have you, so it was affordable and manageable on my budget. That way, I didn't kick out the full cost of the yearly insurance upfront. Whether I'll continue the habit for the remainder of my homeownership here, that's to be determined. But I'm glad that I have it for the first few years I own the house, while I'm trying to figure out every little thing that could be going on with it.

I was having an issue with my refrigerator and when I called American Home Shield, the rep was very pleasant. The first contractor they sent me was not going to be able to come out for almost a week. So, I had no service with my refrigerator. It wasn't working right at all. So, I called AHS back and they gave me Burrows and Company and their response was expedited. It was fast. My heater didn't work anymore and the power light wouldn't stay lit. I made the call to AHS and it took the techs a week to fix it. So for a week, we were without heat, it was getting down to 10 at night, and those were some of the coldest days in Alabama. I kept making calls and the contractor said that AHS has not approved the repair. Finally, I got them to approve it on a Friday, then a call was made to the company to tell them that it was approved. But they couldn't come out until Tuesday. Other than that, the techs were excellent and the heater works great now. I had a bigger problem about two years ago with the air conditioning. I went ahead and paid for it because it was in the heat of the summer in Alabama again, and it took us six months or more to get our money back.

The furnace quit operating, and there was a control sensor that had failed. It turned out, that the igniter for the furnace was defective. When the tech that AHS sent was here, he realized that there was an operating issue. We had the old thermostat. We bought the house two years ago, and the previous thermostat was still in a box here. So he removed and installed a new one. Very accommodating. It was appropriate because the furnace did not operate properly until it was replaced.
The tech was very competent. I'm not a furnace tech, but he appeared to be knowledgeable, skilled and very courteous. The furnace is 30 years old, and the parts are relatively not available locally. They were quite diligent about getting the parts provider to get them out to us. As soon as they came into their office, they had somebody out here to complete the repair.

We've been without a furnace now for three weeks. Sometimes the process of getting things fixed is slow because we have to go through the vendor, and they have to get clearance through AHS, and the parts are backordered. So we have decided, on the furnace, we'll just do cash in lieu and replace it, rather than wait another six weeks for the part to get here. My son thinks I should drop the coverage because it says, replacement of appliances. Well, the times that I've had problems, of course, I'm gonna take the cheapest way out and try to just repair an old appliance, so it's not always measured up to what I thought I had for coverage.

If you sign up, be absolutely sure to get an annual plan rather than monthly. If you even accidentally get on a monthly service plan it can not be changed and you will be in the fight of your life to get out. They only allow phone cancellations with a retention specialist. It will take you days of trying to get a hold of one though and hours on hold to reach one. Even if they see how many times you've called and how many hours you have been on hold, expect no sympathy. You will not be released and they will try to collect again even after they have been paid with additional cancelation fees on contracts you may not even have yet. They were wonderful while we had them. But if you get on a monthly payment plan they will not let go or allow you any time away from them and will come back for your money even after all has been paid up and cancelled.
Unbelievably the worst cancellation policies you can imagine. Intentionally no option to cancel without getting through and they WILL make that as hard as possible with no mercy and charge you again on the way out the door. We will never trust them again even after years spent with them as we realize they are intentionally billing people who no longer may need or want their service but can't spent days on the phone to get rid of them. No email, no online option, and not just a phone call to a service agent. You need to reach their retention specialist to cancel and for any one on a monthly plan now, good luck with that.

I switched to AHS to get away from poor quality warranty companies and scams, but alas, I guess they aren’t much better. I paid service fee ($100) for plumber to come out and fix frozen shower valve. SHOWER VALVES ARE COVERED IN MY CONTRACT!! The plumber showed up and told me it was bad and needed to be replaced. He was going to talk to his boss the next morning, then contact AHS, then contact me to let me know. And here’s the scam. The plumber told AHS the valve was functional, but the “cartridge” needed to be replaced. Now friends, my shower uses a cartridge style valve. The cartridge IS the valve. But since the plumber wrote the valve was functional, the repair was out of warranty. The plumber wanted me to pay $250 extra directly to them in order to replace the valve.
The folks at AHS say I need to work it out with the plumber. The plumbers say I need to work it out with AHS. I get the runaround. Because the plumber did not get back to me like they said, and AHS did not call me back at least three times when they said they would, the runaround took more than 3 weeks, which is the limit for a 2nd opinion. By the time I asked for 2nd opinion, AHS said I would need to pay another $100 service fee. A manager was supposed to call me to talk about making an exception, but…you guessed it, no one ever called. I am stuck paying at least double for the issue (which is covered under the warranty) due to poor support and shady contractors.

American Home Shield was fast and we got to order our next appliance offline. It was delivered and then, we had someone come and put it in for us. It was over a holiday, so it took a two-week process to get everything ordered and done. But otherwise, it was efficient. But they came yesterday at 2:45, and they put a new order for the thermostat, and they'll be back here on Valentine's Day to fix it. I had a claim before Thanksgiving when my dishwasher stopped drying, and I still don't have the part yet. I got to call the guy. The contractor came out, replaced the sensors and got me a new remote for it. The guy also oiled everything up to make sure it was running properly. AHS is helpful. I knew a couple of people that were working with American Home Shield and had fairly good references, so I went with them too. The main thing that is always irritating is the whole notion of paying the monthly fee and the $100 service fee. Techs come out, look into the problem, and it turns out to be something simple. It's more of a frustration than anything. There should be some discount in instances like where techs do a minor check. For two instances, I paid more than I would have paid to just call somebody out because I thought that there was an issue. When you combine what I'm paying monthly with what I'm paying for the service call, it ends up being more than if I called someone to come out. That makes me think about whether I'm going to consider renewing.
Also on both times, I got people from other countries. Sometimes it's very hard to understand what they're saying. When you are having an issue and you're talking to someone that you are not understanding well and they're not understanding you well either, that could be frustrating, especially when you're dealing with something like water or heat issues. You want to get the problem solved. But once you get past that, it's fine.
Most of the time that I had to call American Home Shield, it's been in the evenings. The places they referred me to followed up fairly quickly. When I had what I thought was a plumbing issue, it ended up being that the garbage disposal was disconnected from a sink somehow. It was an easy fix. When I thought that my heater was burning oil, techs came and checked everything but there was nothing wrong with my heater. Whatever was coming from the next door was coming into my house. In those instances, both companies were professional and came as quickly as possible.

The heater wasn't working. So the contractor had to repair the HVAC system. But I don’t like that submitting the claim is through the website and that AHS doesn’t have a separate app that you can download. There were two parts that the contractor needed for the first time that they had to come back. It took about four weeks for the part to come in. When they received it, they put it in, and then they discovered that there was another crucial part that was not working. We had to put that on order and that took another week and a half to come in. Then they scheduled the repair. It was finally done on Monday and now, the HVAC system works again.

I also filed a claim for the toilet, twice for different reasons, and the tech from Air Pro that AHS sent out was good. He came out, did his job, and was gone.
But the customer service rep on the phone was rude and I could tell she was annoyed with me. At the time, I had to take my daughter to the doctor as she had a medical emergency. We had an appointment scheduled for 10 o'clock in the morning and I talked to the service guy to ask if there was any way he could come back at the end of his day. He told me to just talk to the office and see since I’m at one end of Las Vegas and he was then going to the other end. They were also so shorthanded. But when I called, the rep said that I couldn't do that and that the tech was going to a different part of Las Vegas. I don’t think she likes her job or we don’t know what her life is like, so I don’t want to judge her. But if you’re going to be in a customer service position, you should at least be polite. We had the heating break and American Home Shield has been very responsive. The first guy they sent was not so great. But by the third time they sent another guy out, it was good. It was a simple fix and he was great. When our fridge freezer in the garage wasn't working, I put the call in on Sunday afternoon and I got a call on Monday morning saying that the tech was on his way. Unfortunately, it was a waste of money because apparently when it's cold, you have to turn the freezer down, not up. I didn't know that. So that was a simple fix. The AC guy was helpful so I was happy with him.

AHS is an awesome company and I really appreciate it. When the sprocket on top of my garage door opener came off and broke, I got on the website at night on a Sunday and once I submitted the claim, I received a notice that it had been assigned to this contractor. The contractor right away called me the next morning. We talked and they were very professional. Then the following day, came in and did the work really quickly. The guys installed a brand new garage door opener with a pad. It was seamless and they helped me program the board pad. I also had my pool heater go out and the same thing happened. The next day, I had somebody calling me who communicated that they were coming over. They left this morning and everything's repaired.
I've talked to a lot of my friends about AHS and they couldn't believe that you're able to purchase an insurance policy that'd cover appliances in your home regardless of condition, without any questions asked. Four of them said they were going to get policies. So, American Home Shield's performance has been great. I like the way that everything is so automated and they’re true to their word. I also told my friends that you can cheap out and get the coverage with a higher deductible in case you need them. But things are going to break and getting that smaller deductible really helps, especially if one or two items break at a time or become inoperable at a time, to get a way to save some money in the long run. It evens out.

Every time I've called for whatever reason, it's been a very prompt response. I had a claim on the refrigerator and got a quick response from AHS. The icemaker stopped working and there was water flowing out of the exterior where the ice comes out. It was a waterfall and it flooded my kitchen. Arizona Value came out and replaced the icemaker but once we went to use the new one, nothing happened. I reported to them that I thought that the water wasn't making it into the icemaker. The tech came back out and determined that there was a valve that was broken in the line to the icemaker. He has ordered that and they're coming back to install that.

I'm good with this service. But there's one problem I'm having. They came out twice to check on my refrigerator which has been making a loud sound. The tech did a very good job. He fixed it just before the holidays. We've gotten new parts and the sound stopped for a while. But it has started all over again. AHS will have to give me money for a new refrigerator or do something.
With American Home Shield, I have peace of mind. If my appliance goes down, they could repair it. If it's unfixable, I could get money to get a new refrigerator. If I have to just add the difference, I can do that. I have two rental houses and I have one of them with AHS and I have no regrets.

American Home Shield has good guys working for them so I've never had an issue. I had a claim and the techs came out twice. On the first fix, the appliance went fine for three days then they came back to do the same thing with the water dispenser. After five days, we scheduled a warranty visit. They came back this past Saturday, even though I called them on Thursday telling them, "It's working. Let's postpone this appointment to see if it stops working again." But they didn't have appointments for the next two weeks and said they would make a note that it's working and let the technician come in and he did.
I explained that was happening and he said, "Maybe the line is getting frozen and for that, we'll need to replace the door." My understanding is the door was ordered and it should come and they will be back to replace it. Everything is fine on my part. The appliance is still working. It's just annoying that it stops working then goes back to working again. And when the technician comes, it works.

Service tech for refrigerator said it's perfectly normal for my cooling compartment to freeze my food. I've been asking around. It's not normal. I called them back and they said they would order a new thermostat. That's pending. The real issue is my electrical. A whole room has no power to the outlets. Tech came out and said they needed access to the wiring and we would have to tear out our wall. We actually did that (should have known better).
Tech came out and said the damage was due to pests underneath (according to AHS). I think he probably told them it MAY have been due to pests. He can't know because he didn't go underneath. He said he could get it working but it wouldn't be code. Now obviously that is not acceptable. AHS denied his request to add a new circuit. I wanted a 2nd opinion from a journeyman tech that is not beholden to AHS to retain vendor status and they said no. So $100 later, we still have no electric service in that room and our wall is torn out too. Total scam.

We had a long-standing issue with our HVAC. The initial problem was that the AC at the upper level of the house wasn’t working. The contractor put Freon the first time and it didn't work so we called again. Then it was a different person that had gone out because their mannerism's a little bit better and they had a piece that was missing. When the piece arrived and they installed it, it's now working when we have the hot spell in Georgia.
I just wish American Home Shield could handle the follow-through differently. If there was a request made for something to be serviced, then it would be, “Go to the contractor who would come.” “Oh, there's a missing part.” Then we'll say, “Well, it's been two or three weeks now. We haven't heard from you. What's going on?” “Oh, we didn't get it approved.” Or there's some excuse and then we have to go back around and say, “What happened?” Usually, out of the country that we're receiving those customer call and they want to loop it back again. If there was better way to closing the gap with the follow-up if after a service provider went out, a person could survey them, “What was the action? What still needs to be done?” Then that is transferred to the appropriate course to make sure that the customer service rep is calling us to give us an update, as opposed to us calling them constantly to check what’s going on.
In one case where we had to get our appliance replaced after numerous haggling and calls about it, we also had the same situation of never hearing back until we were to call and follow up. The dishwashing machine was supposed to be installed, and for whatever reason, it was miscommunicated whether or not the one that was there would be removed and exchanged. The people who were there that delivered it said that they were not instructed to put it in. Thankfully, I have a very industrious husband so he gets it done. What kind of customer service is that? If we wanted to do that, we could have gone somewhere else, avoided the headache, and put it ourselves. It shouldn't have to be that way.

It’s Jan. 25 and American Home Shield has not yet approved the replacement of the refrigerator. The house has no fridge for 15 days now. I have called customer service 5 times to check on status and I called the technician company which confirmed they had submitted information to AHS. This is unacceptable. I need a response asap on this issue. I pay every month my dues with no issues, and I am very disappointed with the service I am receiving. This has actually making me waste so much time and so much money on food items since no fridge in the house. Can someone please help me?? The claim process is easy and straightforward and the contractors get out pretty quick. But there was one company I dealt with which I wholeheartedly feel AHS should be taking off their network. They were one of the worst I've ever dealt with in my entire life of doing property management. He was being very combative with me. I had to videotape him and kick him off my property. They flooded my backyard and weren't even kind enough to pay me back for the money that they wasted in water.
At the end of December, a tech came for my pool claim and he had to switch out my pump. I'm pretty happy with the repairs. He's really good about diagnosing the issue and making sure the issue is taken care of. He got things taken care of then, but unfortunately, the pump seized up again and I had to call him back out. My only thing is that I was under the impression that with my home warranty my pool pump would be swapped with a new one. It looks like it was swapped with a refurbished pool pump. There are going to be continued issues with this and it's going to be $75 out of my pocket every few months, which I don't want to deal with.
Other than that, AHS is worth it. Go for it. They've been very good about taking care of things for me and they've been very prompt about making sure all the work is done. So I've been very happy with that.

When filing claims, I'd just call up the AHS number and give my policy number. They'd rout me through to the people I need to talk to. The last five years haven't been as good as it has in the past, but they've always met my needs. It's a $75 service fee for someone to come out to service me, and most of the time, if I would have just called a technician, it wouldn't have cost me any more than that as I haven't had any big claims before. But AHS has always performed well.
We've had an issue with our microwave door. When we opened it and if we didn't hold it, it would always go down fast. It didn't bother me because I always hold the door every time it goes down, but my wife complained about it a lot. A couple of weeks ago, I went in to use the microwave in the morning to warm my oatmeal and I opened the door. As I was opening it, the whole outer panel just fell on the ground and shattered on the floor. There were little glass pieces all over the place. I also noticed there were several little screws in there with the glass. I looked at the inner panel that helped that shade in, and there were two that were loose on the end while they were still on the inside, and I thought that was the only thing holding the glass in place.
The technicians were out within a matter of a week. They looked and assessed everything and filled out all the paperwork. They said that they advised American Home Shield that there were no replacement parts available for that because of the age. Now I'm waiting for American Home Shield to get back through it. I got a phone call a day or two afterward from someone there wanting to verify my address as she wanted to know where she should send their response. I told her to send it to the same address where the service was performed.

They should not have a person wait three weeks in the middle of summer when it's 100 degrees to get the AC repaired. They told me there was nothing they could do about it. They were very busy. I stayed in a hotel for a week because it was so hot I couldn't stay in the house. I like the security of having American Home Shield. Recently, ACS Plumbing came out and they fixed the plumbing issue that I had. Then they charged me money, which they should not have. What happened was that the toilet was broken and they came and said they fixed it, and it doesn't flush now. Then they did something under the sink where they told me it was gonna be $250 over what American Home Shield would pay. Then when they came, they said, "Well, that problem really wasn't there." So, they fixed it. Then they gave me a bill for $50 that I now have to turn into American Home Shield, which is a pain. They did put on the faucet, which was fine.
An electrician also came in. I've never used the remote. I always use my turn off switch. The new fan isn't working in the ceiling, but he can't test it because I don't have the remote. So now, I'm gonna have to go buy a remote so he can test it. That was annoying as well. Then, a guy came in for the refrigerator, which was for an ice maker issue. All he did was exactly what I do all the time. The ice maker gets stuck, and you have to empty it and it starts working again. He just came in and emptied it. I want to know why it's getting stuck all the time. I wouldn't recommend American Home Shield right now. We had an issue with the hot water heater and it took AHS almost a month to get us a new hot water heater because AHS kept screwing up. At one point, AHS told the vendor to go to a place to pick it up. When they went to that place, the vendor went there to pick it up, and the place said, "We don't have any hot water heater for you." AHS told the vendor to go to the wrong place. So that was a whole big mess.
It seems like over the years AHS has gotten worse. It seems like the vendors and contractors that AHS is using are getting goofier and goofier. It gets to a point where I start to wonder, “Why am I still using AHS?” I'm paying $600 a year and everything becomes a struggle. I've been a customer for 17 years, in the beginning, we never had a problem. After we moved into this condo, the hot water heater that was here prior to us living here went, within two days it was replaced. Then here it is, years later, the hot water heater went. We needed to get a new one. It took AHS almost a month playing games. We had to go to somebody else's house every day to take showers.
They also came last night for the microwave. The techs installed it. But I didn't expect anybody to be coming at 5:45. They said between 12:00 and 5:00. When the guys arrived, they said they were running late. I was like, "Okay, fine. You're here, put it in." When the guys came at 5:45, I said to them, "Somebody was supposed to call me to let me know what time to expect you." He said, "Oh, nobody called to say we were running late?" I said, "No." I had called the vendor and their office closed at 4:30. So all I got was the voicemail. I left a voicemail saying, "Here it is. 5:30, the workmen are not here yet. I want that microwave installed. I need somebody to get back to me." Then 15 minutes later, that was when the doorbell rang for the condo, they were here. Going through the process was dissatisfying. But once it got installed, everything was okay.
I should not have to be the one micromanaging this process. When I make a call to AHS, I expect AHS to make the arrangements, deal with the vendors. Then I expect the vendor to call me with a simple, "We're getting it and this is the date we're bringing it." I shouldn’t have to make follow-up calls to the vendors. I shouldn't have to make follow-up calls to AHS. Then, it seems like every time I call AHS, I'm routed to some call center in some other country. Then I have to explain everything to them. I have to hope they understand the English I'm using.

We had claims on our garbage disposal recently and our ice maker and both went very quickly and really well.
I came to American Home Shield from 2-10 Home Warranty. It was definitely a better experience on all fronts, technicians, the timeliness of resolving the issue the first time, several other pieces like materials they used and dealing with the customer service if there was something else that needs to be handled. So far, the associated technicians have been pretty good. I'm familiar with some of the companies in the area that works out. If I had to get a reassignment, that wasn't difficult to do.

I had six different calls to come out and repair my refrigerator. It was not cooling, and the freezer part was not freezing. This was a Kenmore Elite, and the first fellow came out and indicated that he did not work on that type of refrigerator. Someone else was assigned to work on it, and when I told him what kind it was, he didn't work on that kind too. That happened again with a third person. Somebody came out later and decided that it was a part that needed to be replaced and he couldn't replace it. Somebody from Sears then came out, and they couldn't repair it then somebody else from Sears came. They repaired the problem, but while repairing it, there was a leak from the water line that was created by a previous contractor
The last person that came out from Sears, it seems to have alleviated the problem as far as the refrigerator and freezer temperatures, and I'm satisfied now. The dissatisfaction comes in because it took so long to get the problem fixed. All my food that was in the refrigerator and the freezer had to be discarded. If somebody from Sears had come out in the initial call, then I could have saved a bunch of food. The other thing that I'm dissatisfied with is without notice, there was an increase in cost. The cost was 70 then the next time I looked at it, it was 80.
I had Sears prior to American Home Shield, and I find them much better than Sears. Am I going to continue with American Home Shield? Yes. Customer service was outstanding. As soon as I talked to someone, they were interested in getting that $100 upfront, which I don't have a problem with. Every time I called and talked to someone or they called me, then they moved. It was a great turnaround time.

We had a problem with our dishwasher so I called American Home Shield and a repairman came out. He saw the problem, ordered the part, came back, and installed it. When the dishwasher was making this horrible clanging noise, I called again. The tech came out and checked it. He found something else wrong. He ordered a part, came back, and put that part in. He ran the cycle so he could actually hear what was going on and discovered something else and said the machine was dead.
I have been going through American Home Shield's portal trying to pick out a replacement for the dishwasher. I've been having trouble because I like to go to Lowe's or some store and see what the inside of the machine looks like. I can't always find some of the models I want to look at. I want to look at it before I order it because there's a lot of difference. Also, we plan to upgrade. We haven't replaced our dishwasher yet and it's been almost over a month.
On the whole, I'm satisfied with our service. The repairman tried everything he could to fix the dishwasher and discovered what was the main cause was. It's just a matter of trying to figure out which model I want and how to go about it because it's hard to order it online. I'm going to call in an order because I don't see that well on my iPad. I'm still more comfortable speaking with an agent. I talked to somebody yesterday and she was very helpful. She gave me some tips and I appreciated that. I want to talk to her again but when I asked if I could call back and get her, she said that there are so many offices.
The only criticism I have is American Home Shield can't get parts. They always have to send away for the parts. I understand that it's nobody's fault, but the supply chain. You have to wait for everything. Otherwise, American Home Shield has been prompt. They use the company AM PM and they are very good. They keep in touch. When they first schedule you, they say, "He'll be here Monday morning between 8:00 and 12:00." The day before, they will narrow it down for a two-hour window. The repairman texts me or calls me when he's 10 minutes away. They've always been on time and I have been happy with that company.

So far, my experience with them has been outstanding. I've been happy with them. No issues with at all with reporting claims or submitting them. And I usually have a person out that same day either within a few hours or maybe close to closed business. There was a leak on the pressure tank above the water heater. The plumber addressed it right away. He put in a temporary part to stop the leak. That way, we could have the water turned back on until they return on Friday with the part.

I'm still waiting for my air conditioner to get fixed, which has been going on since last year summer. The tech put a temporary part on it while they were ordering the original part because of the pandemic and the supply chain management issue. They told me the part came in, and they were supposed to come and put it in. But the technician who was supposed to bring it went on some emergency leave. I've called American Home Shield several times and I've been getting the runaround.
The last time I spoke to somebody was last week. It’s very sad to have a company tell me somebody is going to call me and I've called back at least 15 or 20 times, and nobody's ever called me back. The problem is still going on, which I've already paid for. AHS should improve on their customer support and follow-up. I also had a claim with a dishwasher and that was done with no issues. The guy fixed the problem in 30 minutes. But for some reason, we can't seem to get this air condition situation resolved.

American Home Shield sent someone out here. They said there was a little part that needed to be covered up, and that the heat should be on within an hour to an hour and a half. They told me just to leave the unit on. So, I left it on. All day long, no heat. I called them back and told them that. And they made another appointment to come back out here. They looked at it, and the little part was frozen. It was covered with ice. They said that was the problem with it. So, they had to order the part. They said it would be a little while. A week or so later, they called to make an appointment to come and install the part. We made an appointment. A half an hour later, they called me back and said that it would be $600 out of my pocket. I said, “Woah, woah, wait a minute.” That is where the issue started happening.
I got in touch with someone in American Home Shield. They told me that I have to pay it, and that was in the contract. So, I looked at the contract. And lo and behold, there was a little thing where they paid a small portion of it, but I had to pay the lion’s share. And not being a contractor, I had no clue that something like that was so expensive. Because I thought I had the best that they had to offer, but apparently not.
I had a very hard time getting customer service because it was all outsourced. And that was very frustrating. I talked to more than a half a dozen people, trying to get things taken care of. Finally, I talked to someone who wanted to me get a second opinion. I said I didn’t know that was an option. So, I got that, and it was different from the first one. Still, no one told me anything about how much it would cost me. So, I said that they sent me an email saying they gave me a choice of fixing it myself or having the contactors come out. I talked to someone in customer service who said that they would reimburse me the $100 that I paid for it because of the length of time that it took to come out, to get the issue resolved, which still hasn't happened.
It would be better if AHS would, in the beginning, tell people that there are certain exceptions to certain things. Because no one knows that there will be a cost out of pocket until it actually happens. And it would have been nice to sit down and go over certain things, especially high-cost items, like the refrigerant. Because that’s the whole purpose of me getting insurance in the first place, so that I wouldn't come up with that. I’m a senior citizen and disabled, so is my wife, and we’re on a fixed income. So, trying to come up with money at the spur of the moment is very difficult.
The first contractor was the one who came out and looked at my unit for the summer to prepare it for getting cool, to get the air conditioning, make sure it was all up to date. He was the same guy who came out here to do that. And he came out again to fix it for the heat, and that was when all the problems started. He talked about the unit outside and didn’t mention anything about the unit upstairs. Apparently, that’s where the big problem is. And my big problem is if the refrigerant is leaking and they put more in there, and it leaks out, do I have to pay another 600 or $700 to do that again? The first one said it was $600 worth that had to be put in, and the second one said it’s about $700 that need to be put in. I figured they knew what they were doing.

I had a claim for my dishwasher and it took six months to get it done. But the people who came and repaired the dishwasher did fine. I have huge complaints for American Home Shield. The first would be that anytime I want to get something done, it took forever to get on the line with a person. Then when I did get on the line with a person, half the time, they lose the call, or somehow I get hung up on. I end up having to call back and wait again for however long until I get back through to someone. It would be common sense and common courtesy for them to have my number, and if somehow we get disconnected, it'd be really nice if they just called me back. So I didn't have to go through the whole hour-long spiel of getting someone on the phone again.
I've had times where I've been disconnected about five times, and it's not my phone. I have no connectivity problems when I've talked to anyone else. But for some reason, when I'm calling into American Home Shield, it seems like suddenly I had connectivity problems, and it's not like I'm being rude or shouting or screaming. I'm always very polite.
I've used American Home Shield a lot. When my oven gave out, they gave me $1,200 for a new oven. It would cost me 4,400, so that really didn't do me any good. But they were like, “Well, if we were going to buy it, this is what we’d get it for.” Also, it takes six months to a year to get stuff fixed in my experience. So it takes so long. I would never recommend American Home Shield to anyone.

I bought a special kind of policy, which was a buyer’s policy because this is a new home for me. Sometimes, you go into homes and you don't know until you’re there for a couple of months and you find out some things. American Home Shield's policy is that if you go in and if you discover something, on day one, I can start making claims and get them out there to fix it. So I'm trying to take advantage of that situation because I paid for it. I had a couple of leaks underneath my sink and the plumber fixed one of them. The other one is still outstanding and I called AHS last night to inquire about that. According to their notes, the plumber didn't report on the second, which was the garbage disposal. So, they were going to reach out to the plumber to see what was the problem with it. When the plumber responds, they said they’d get back with me.
When I first called AHS, the rep was friendly. I got a rekey maybe a day before I got them and I didn’t know that you can rekey or get them to pay to rekey your home. But their policy is if I didn't go through them, they couldn’t reimburse me. So that was the only little gripe I had. But other than that, the customer service was good and I have no complaints there.

My freezer went out, they send a guy who was not authorized to make repairs, only look at the problem. Then it took another 2 weeks to get it fixed, I lost around $200 for frozen items. Not acceptable. When my washer stopped working the repair person said it's cause I overloaded it, not true. I had to argue to get someone else to look at it, and they said it's just old. They outsourced the call center overseas, and I can’t understand the rep most of the time. You assign contractors who are so busy they have trouble scheduling, so then I try and get a different contractor assigned and I face GREAT resistance from the call reps! Not fun. Then I go the cancel and you slap an “ADMIN” fee to cancel, that’s such **. Never be a customer again, cancelled all 3 polices and my GF she also cancelled. So much work dealing with these people!
We do appreciate your feedback and apologize that this issue has caused you to cancel your warranty. It is not our intent to cause a difficult experience, and hopes that you would consider joining the AHS team in the near future. Have a great day!

On Christmas Eve, I had my family over and while we were talking, the power went out in my family rooms, but the rest of the house had lights. So I thought maybe a breaker had tripped. I went to the breaker and it hadn’t tripped, so we had no power in my family room and my garage, which are next each other. I put in a claim and the contractor called me. They asked if I have a space heater and I said yes but it wasn't plugged up. Then, they sent the guy out and he saw the breaker hadn’t tripped. Then he just started testing each plug socket. The first one he came to was the problem and he changed the socket for me, the plug part, and everything went back to normal. He wasn’t here 15 minutes.
Other than that, I was with AHS before and every time I made a claim, nothing was covered, so I left them and I tried another warranty company but they were worse. So it was going to be wintertime and if nothing else, I needed my furnace and the electrical to be covered. Everything else is brand new because I've been remodeling my house, so I went back to American Home Shield. The price was within my budget. The other one was almost $90 and now I'm paying 40 something for the same type of coverage.
On another note, their commercial showed that when something happens on a customer's house, he'd make a claim and the techs would come out on the same day. But it doesn't work that way and I wish they would quit advertising that. It takes 24 to 48 hours. In my case, because it was Christmas Eve, I had to go without power on that Saturday, Sunday, and Monday morning. Once you made a claim, they got to see if that's going to be covered on your warranty, then they got to dispatch the person and that person has to call you back. It’s not easy as they make it seem.
Also, American Home Shield does not cover a lot of things. Even with toilets. If it's a valve problem, they’re not going to cover it. There’s a lot of exclusions in it. I got the warranty for my AC unit, my furnace, and electrical. Anything else I know more likely I'm going to have to come out-of-my pocket. There’s no sense with me putting in a service call with them and spending $75 for somebody to walk into my house, look at it, say that it's not covered, and walk back out. Also, when I referred somebody to American Home Shield and she told them about it, I haven't heard anything about it. But for referrals, I was supposed to get $25.

The convenience and peace of mind of having this warranty has been good. But it's a hit or miss in terms of when people come out and look at something and what they say and what they can do or not do. I've put in four service calls and the most memorable one was the pool company. The contractor was very responsive, very timely, and fixed my issue immediately. However, I have not had the best experience with my heater repair in terms of the timeliness of response. Originally, the first two or three times the contractor came out, they just sent a freshman technician who didn't know what he was doing. Then from the time of that I would go into American Home Shield and request service, the fact that it took them a week or two just to get me on their schedule when it was 30 degrees was not okay.
Another thing, like American Home Shield, the first time they came out, they were like, "Oh, it's this, but we don't have the part. So we're gonna have to order the part. And that might take us about a week before we get back to you." The last time around, I just called a heater company and pay for it out of my pocket because it was the fourth time the contractor had come out. It just wasn't worth going through my warranty to continue to have to deal with a company like that. The timeliness and response time considering that a consumer is paying a $100 deductible just to get someone out is important.

They said they couldn't find the part and they don't make that particular model anymore in that particular company. I called American Home Shield and told them I needed to get the issue resolved. If there’s a special part, it may take more time. But to not have any solution and not to have any response to me is unacceptable.
The other two issues were quick fixes. There was a part loose in the garbage disposal. The plumbers came out and fixed that right away. The second one is still in progress. We live in a rural community and we don't have a lot of technicians in our area that will accept American Home Shield. We're finding out that it's because they don't pay their bills. Not only do they not pay their bills, but they also charge us as a consumer. For the last two years, every time I have something break down, they give me the okay to have it fixed myself and then I pay for it. But it takes a series of about seven hours on the phone to get them to come through and pay for anything. This process doesn't take a day or two days as they're saying.
We started a claim for a furnace about three weeks ago and I paid the $100 deductible. But it hasn't been resolved. We are in suddenly low weather. I watched children in my home, and I have small children of my own. This is a problem. I run alternative, tiny electric heaters to keep everything going and fine. American Home Shield takes your $100 right away. But then they don't come through. I still have to call them and get the authorization number. But by the time that they can release you to find somebody to fix your own, it’s a good week and a half out. That's not doable when you have a fridge or a furnace that needs to be fixed. That's not fair. I have paid American Home Shield very well for a couple of years. But I am looking to see what else is out there. If I can replace American Home Shield, I will.
The other problem is that when you do get a technician, nobody wants to solve your problems. Nobody wants to help you. They just want to give you the, “Yes, yes. We're dealing on it. We're dealing on it.” There was one lady that was absolutely rude and would not help me. So I kept asking her, “Can I please have your supervisor?” But this lady left me on hold for a good hour. I was determined enough to sit there. When the phone system has this music playing in the background, you can hear that she checks to see if I'm there. Every 20 minutes, that music will kick off. So it was a waiting game on her part to see how long I would wait.
I know that American Home Shield is an equal opportunity employer. But it's tough when you get people that you can't understand from so much broken English that don't even speak the language. To get somebody that sounds like, “I can hear everything you said this entire call” has never happened with American Home Shield. I usually get somebody that’s from a different place or country, and I struggle through it. I'm already frustrated and then the rep is not even here.

We get an email saying, “You're scheduled at this time of day,” Contractors show up, everything's taken care of. If I have an issue, I would call American Home Shield and talk to somebody who speaks very good English. And they can understand me and I can understand them. A-US Air Conditioning of Texas was great. They came out. They found out that it was just a loose cover on the intake. And it was just one of those things that we tried a couple of things, a couple screws, and we put a new air filter in, and it was fine. He was there in less than 10 minutes. So, it was good. This last time, it was scheduled for a hot water tank. I got the email confirming with AHS the plumbing company will be there at X date at whatever time. But they didn't show up. So I called the plumbing company, but no answer. So, I called American Home Shield.
I talked to somebody who was very hard to understand. I guess a call center. And they said, “Nope, they’re there. They're supposed to be there.” I said they were not here. She said, “Well, you call them.” “I did, they're not picking it up. I left a voicemail.” Finally, the company called me back, “No, we didn’t have your schedule. Just because American Home Shield says you have an appointment at a certain time, doesn't mean you have one with us. You had to verify with us.” Which I wasn’t aware. Okay, no big deal. They rescheduled. They came up positive for COVID. So they said, “Hey, we can't do it. We'll let American Home Shield know.” Fine. Luckily, we still have hot water.
A week went by. I said, “Okay. We’ll give it some time.” Nothing. I called AHS. The individual said, “Nope, you’re still with Pro Plumbing Services.” Tried calling them, they told me they’re under the impression it was reassigned since they couldn't do it, since they had COVID, which was miscommunication. Finally, they came out. They did the initial email saying they sent what we needed to AHS. I got an email from AHS saying, “You’ll have to owe extra charges. Please call us.” This is where it got interesting. I called and wanted to know what extra I had to pay. Because a new hot water tank was approved but there was an extra cost.
I have known before that people got burnt because a plumber said they had to pay for a disposal fee. And they would only cover so much of the hot water tank. The person on the phone couldn't answer what I had to pay for. She started listing stuff off. She mentioned about a breaker. I said, “Is that a circuit breaker?” She said yes. “There's a circuit breaker right beside the hot water tank. Are they supposed to have a different breaker?” “Nope. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a breaker. You guys figure that out.” “Okay, but maybe somebody else needs to come take a look? Because it's double protected by two circuit breakers.”
And she mentioned about the expansion tank by code. “That's fine. However we're outside the city limits. The code doesn’t apply to us. But if we need it, I have no issue paying for it for safety of our house.” She kept on referring back to the contract. And she said, “Well, if you want to cancel this, we'll just cash out and pay you for the difference.” “No, I want it fixed. I’m just curious what I'm paying for.” So, resolved it. It was very tough. English wasn't her first language, very tough time communicating. I got frustrated. I couldn't understand. I’m wearing a hearing aid. So when I can't hear or understand, I speak louder.
Pro Plumbing Services came out a couple of days later. They fixed it. Phenomenal service. I asked them what those extra charges were and they pointed everything out. I said, “She was saying something about a breaker. And she couldn’t understand. She said, electrical breaker.” The tech said, “No. We put down the TPMS fault breaker, which is the temperature pressure monitoring that’s on a breaker.” He asked if there was an issue. I replied I just wanted to know what I was paying for. They were great. I was just very upset with the last person I spoke to with AHS.

The person that's there is a renter and I wanted to be informed of what was going on. He called me after the fact and told me what happened. That felt good. The rate was really good too. It was 365 a year, so a dollar a day. That was an acceptable price for the peace of mind for a rental property. The only gripe I had would be for the hot water heater. About two days before Christmas, my washing machine quit. I called American Home Shield and the lady took my information over the phone, and then took my deductible over the phone and filed the claim. It was done in a matter of five minutes. With it being a holiday, it might take a little longer. But within a week, I had someone here. They checked my washer and told me that due to the age of my washer and the fact that even though parts could be bought because of stuff with shipping, there was no telling how long it would take. The tech said he was going to request that my washer get replaced with a new one.
After two days, I had a phone call and an email from a rep with Home Shield that told me I could do several different things. They said, "We can send you an email with the available washers. At the end, there will also be washers that you can upgrade to and pay extra. If you pick one out, you can do it online, you can hit which one you want. It'll be ordered. We will contact you with the company that would be delivering it. And if you do it that way, the company that delivers your washer hooks it up and takes your old washer away." They also gave me the option of getting a voucher and me going to pick out my own washer at stores like Lowe's or Home Depot.
As I looked on Home Shield's website and started looking at the washers, I picked one out and knew that they would take mine away. When I picked out my washer, they immediately sent me an email and said, "You've selected your washer. Your order is being placed. We will let you know." They gave me a roundabout time frame. But mine was actually a quicker turnaround than the time frame they gave me. Within a week, I was contacted and told what company would be delivering my washer. I made arrangements to be here at the house. Then they came in, hooked it up, and took my old one off. I love my new washer. Other than me picking out what I wanted, Home Shield pretty much took care of it. The contractor did the job in 15 minutes. It was great. That made it worth what you pay each month just to have Home Shield.
The only downfall I had with Home Shield a few years ago was with an air conditioning issue. I'm not pleased with that part of it. I had to wait for a bit too long for someone to come out. When the contractor did come, they were a fast-talker. They said, "Ma'am, actually, you need a new unit. However, American Home Shield, your warranty company, and they're going to make us order the parts for it and fix it as long as those parts are available, and they are available. So we will have to go that route. And we're going to have to drain all of your Freon, antifreeze, whatever. And that's going to cost you $975 for us to put that back in. That will not be covered by Home Shield and that will be your expense." That upset me and I almost cancelled because of that.
I did file a complaint because the company that they sent out was from Montgomery, which is about an hour and 15 minutes away from here. The guy said, "Ma'am, granted, you know that you need to go ahead and get a new air. Since I'm the one here working on it, if you go with us, we'll go ahead and knock off $1,000 on your air unit since we're the ones that come out to check it." I didn't feel good about that person they sent out here. I ended up calling a local person that came out and checked my air conditioning unit. But other than that, as far as appliances, I'm okay with American Home Shield.

My gas range wouldn't get to temperature. So, I called American Home Shield and they set me up with a repair person. The contractor called me within a few days and then looked at the range. They tried different things but they weren't able to get it to work. They couldn't find the parts on the market because it was an old stove. The claim process was really easy and the representative I talked to was really nice. He tried as hard as he could to find me a new stove, but he wasn't able to because of supply and demand. So I just took the option to cash out.

It took me almost nine months to get a refrigerator. That was something that probably couldn't be helped because I called and called, and I finally got the refrigerator last month. American Home Shield has always been on top of the other repairs. It's just this one time I had a problem. They've been very good to me. I don't do plumbing. I don't know anything about fixing refrigerators. I'm not an electrician and I definitely don't know anything about air conditioning and heating. AHS is no help at all. Customer service is in the Philippines, speak poor English and are unable to help. I've tried multiple times to speak with a supervisor and each time the agent either puts me on hold and hangs up the call after a few minutes, or says that a supervisor will call me back. Never happened. I've tried calling corporate office of AHS, but every number directs you back to the same customer service system. My toilet was running and I needed someone to come and check it. They said that they would prioritize it and they did. The tech from High Priority Plumbing & Services happened to be in the area and he came that same day. The inside was broken in the toilet and he replaced it but when he did, he didn't make the bolts underneath the toilet tight enough. After about a week, I had this huge dripping of water underneath my toilet. I called them back and it took them two days to get here. The tech admitted that it was his fault and he didn't make the bolts tight.
I also had a request on the faucet on my tub and I told him that he has to make sure he has it just in the right place for the water to stop dripping. He said it's supposed to be like that. But the cold water stops. It's broken. He ignored it the first time. The second time, when he came back to take care of the toilet because of the bolts, I brought it to his attention again. They were supposed to order a cartridge and I didn't hear from them anymore.
American Home Shield should be following up on their claim and finding out if the customer is satisfied. I haven't heard from them anymore about this particular service. I'm not a person that files a lot of claims but when I do, I expect better customer service. One other thing they did that I was not pleased with was the cost went up and they never notified me. That was kind of unprofessional. They have access to my credit card information, at least I should be notified. Other than those, during the three years that I've had them, I don't have any complaints.

For my recent claim with AHS, I had an issue with a wax seal in a toilet. It was leaking from the bottom of the toilet. I'm a senior citizen. I can't lift up the toilet. So, I had to call the plumber out. The gentleman that came out was very polite and knowledgeable. He did a great job. After he did his job, he tested everything out to make sure it wasn't leaking, found that it was still leaking, and then removed the toilet and discovered that the seal that he put in was a little shorter. He had a taller seal out in his truck. He went and got the other one. It's because I had some tile work done and it raised my toilet up. So, he discovered that and took care of it immediately, put the taller seal in the toilet, and everything worked fine. No leaks.

I've dealt with AHS before as well, and they've been very good. They've done our washer and dryer, the refrigerator, and the stove, and I have recommended them to a number of people. American Home Shield has been very accommodating. I only had one negative experience with a vendor that AHS suggested that I use when I requested not to use that person anymore. It took me three days to try to make an appointment. I finally called back to AHS and they were able to reach this person after I left several messages with him. Once he called back, he sounded irritated. And he mentioned that what I wanted wasn't what he was supposed to do because it was not in his area of expertise. I needed to have our icemaker replaced and the water line in the back of the refrigerator was leaking. So, he was a refrigerant company for the refrigerator. He was very rude and unprofessional. I said I didn't want to work with him at all. Other than that, AHS has been good. I like having everything in a one-stop shop. I don't have to search around and do my own research to find other various vendors for what I need.

So far, my experience with AHS has been positive for the most part. To see a contractor, they're supposed to contact you within 48 hours and I've always had them contact me within that amount of time. Then, when we set an appointment, sometimes they can't get there immediately. And on other times, it doesn't work out for us. Then occasionally, it seems to me that their base of service people is rather small. One time, I've had a problem with one contractor that they sent out. I've dealt with American Home Shield many times in different issues that I've had. I had an issue a year ago with my AC, and they sent out this company that was very shady. They broke our AC and tried to blame it on us that it was an issue before they got there, but they literally took the thing apart and it broke. AHS didn't want to cover it. It was a big deal because the whole thing had to be replaced.
I was going back and forth with them. AHS didn't really help us much and just mediated when they heard our complaints. They were taking the side of the people that they hired. We eventually came to a common ground where they were going to cover some of the costs. But once American Home Shield sends these people out, they don't do much. Like if something like that happens, they don't really help much as far as getting things taken care of and getting this company to do what's right.
It left a really bad taste in our mouth as far as who they contract through. I was very skeptical when the next company came out. Like when they were replacing the outside unit, I was watching them and asking questions. Because I didn't really trust them because of my experience. But they did an excellent job, I just feel like sometimes American Home Shield hires the cheapest possible companies.
Recently, near my water heater, the line to it was rattling when we would use water. So, I submitted the request online with AHS. By the next day, we had received notification, AHS had assigned the plumbing company, and then they called us shortly after to set up an appointment, and then, they came out. They assessed the problem and told me what it was, addressing my questions and concerns. They gave me an explanation of why it needed to be replaced, and they went from there. I waited about a day for their approval from AHS exactly what they were going to cover. Then they called us back within 48 hours from the initial visit and told us what we were gonna have to pay out of pocket.

I had American Home Shield when I was in Maryland. That's why when I got here in Arizona, I continued with their service. I also upgraded from their regular service to their electronics service, which covers my TVs, computers, and stuff like that too. Now, when the techs come to my house, I pay a higher amount of money. I was paying $75 a service call but because I upgraded to the electronic package, I now have to pay $100 when they come. I've already used them once for a TV repair and it only cost $100. The TV is working beautifully.
Recently, I had a claim with my washer. It was a little tricky and it resets itself. But AHS asked the question, "Do you still want them to come?". I said, Yes, I still want them to come. I already paid my service fee." They set up an appointment for the next day. But it was working when the tech got here. There are policies that are cheaper than American Home Shield but you should get a policy no matter what because as a homeowner, things break. Next thing you know, your dishwasher, garbage disposal, refrigerator have issues even though they're new. It's nice to have somebody that I can immediately come and look at them. I have friends that have AHS who have had worse experiences than I've had. AHS doesn't really give you a true replacement. They give you something as close to what needs to be replaced as they can. But I haven't had a bad experience with them yet.

When I first called, I got a response from American Home Shield right away that they had assigned somebody to take care of my issue. But they didn’t call me for a whole week, so I had to call American Home Shield to ask what was going on and tell them the contractor hadn't responded to me or given me any information about why they couldn’t come in right away. After a week, they showed up and found out what the problem was. It took another week for the technician to come back to fix my washer. But after that, he fixed it right away and was very professional. I was happy.
American Home Shield is doing a great job. The problem is with whoever gets assigned to do the work. There are ways for them to call and tell us to give them a little bit of time. I had an issue with my fridge. The first contractor was not able to fix it in 40 days. The contractor was changed by American Home Shield to Wayne and they did an awesome job. They came on Christmas Day and knocked it off. They finished it all in one day. I was very impressed. I'm very happy that my issue was fixed, and Wayne did an excellent job.
But, as far as the contractor before him, it sucked. It was an extremely poor business process and coordination between the contractor and American Home Shield. They changed a part and the part that they changed came with 60 days warranty on it. The guy went in hiatus and stopped replying to calls, or making his appointments, or replying to American Home Shield. He left me hanging for two weeks. Meanwhile, American Home Shield did not change the contractor because they had their own process. Eventually, after 40 days of give and take, the contractor was changed, and I went to somebody else. This contractor was changed not because of American Home Shield. The guy just gave up, said, “I do not know how to fix it.”
AHS has have customer support, they're very empathetic. They also are very good in trying to relate to the customer. But in the end of the day, I'm not calling for empathy, I'm going to resolve a problem and they were not able to resolve my problem in over 40 days. In terms of submitting a claim via their website, having somebody scheduled, it's seamless and very good. But if the contractor is not a good one, you get zero support. You get into the rabbit hole of, “Well, we have to give it some time, then we'll have to escalate to the relationship management team.” In 40 days, I heard about that team, but they were not engaged.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. I've just sent you an email. Thanks for your patience.

Our heating unit was barely blowing hot air. You could tell it was on and something was happening, but it wasn't performing the way it should have. We made a claim with AHS and the tech was out there within a couple hours. Apparently, it wasn't a major fix and there was a clogged pressure tube. So, it wasn't allowing the unit to fully evolve and turn on. Once he cleared that, everything was good to go, so he was able to fix it on the spot. That was the most impressive thing and I have not been entirely satisfied with AHS prior to that incident. This time, the contractor that they chose was knowledgeable. He was in the area and it worked out fantastically. The last incident that I had prior to that was the absolute opposite and I ended up losing a lot of money on it.
They assigned my claim to somebody that was not very knowledgeable and this was an electrical issue where we had some power outages going on in the house. I had to reach out to them the next day. They didn't even send somebody out for days and when the techs came out, they said there was something that needed to be replaced in a fuse box. They said they ordered the part but weeks went by without the part. This went on for a while and it was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I ended up having to pay AHS the fee that I typically pay for someone to come out, then hiring somebody else just to come out and take care of it so it would be fixed. I called AHS and I told them I wanted my money back, but they wouldn't refund it.
Then I got a call, so I thought I got it resolved in a few days, after I found out this vendor wasn't providing a part. They had no idea when it was going to be in, but they were going to call me back. They never followed up though and I followed up with them all the time. They never had any better answers, too. When I hired just a random handyman to do it, he was able to fix it on the spot. It turned out that there an outlet that needed to be replaced. That was really disappointing because we went through all that trouble and time without power. Also, when I started looking up the contractor and dealing with them, their customer service was awful and their reviews were terrible.
So, the root cause of this issue was who AHS was assigning some of this work to. There needs to be more focus on the urgency when these issues arise and quality of the contractor doing it. When I looked at some of the reviews of some of the contractors, it was a little weird and almost all these are contractors just specifically to serve AHS. And some of the reviews aren't very good.

American Home Shield's customer service is a little difficult to get ahold of sometimes. They don't make a phone number readily available to call if you have an issue, so you kind of have to hunt that down. Also, usually, their call center sounds like it's not in the United States. And there was one time they charged me for something that didn't get repaired. I had to track that down and it took some time but they eventually credited it back.
Issues have always been resolved, although it's taken a little bit more time. Our garage door opener stopped working. Cornerstone Electric Door came out and fixed the motor within 48 hours and all was golden. Also, AHS has replaced our hot water heater and they've repaired several other things. They've done everything I've ever asked them to do and it's been great. They've done a good job trying to take out the middleman and do everything automated, which is a plus. They have an app that I used to make a request. I recommend it to other people.
