Every once in a while, American Home Shield does something good but sometimes it's hard to get something done. It took a while to get things happening with my recent claim. It took almost a month. But the person who came out took care of what we needed and did a great job. We also had somebody out from a company a while ago and when we needed somebody again, I called this company and they said that American Home Shield wouldn't work with them anymore. So it seems like whoever works with American Home Shield doesn't work with them very long.

Everything was fine when the tech came out. He even changed the filter for me. I have one of those Aprilaire units on it. It's a special filter and kind of complex getting it on. But he was more than happy to put it in for me. So far, I really like the warranty. I've been happy with AHS.

I had a roof leak on a flat EPDM roof for a house that was built in 2012. I was concerned that it was the base of the HVAC unit. The vendor came out and confirmed that that was not the source of my leak. But there was still a leak but that wasn't related to the American Home Shield. That was just a different household project. But they were on time, courteous, and very professional in helping me isolate the source of the roof leak. Then they checked the size of the system and did a great job. With American Home Shield, I have peace of mind that if my appliances and the core parts of the house like HVAC or microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher have coverage break, it's more of a predictable budgeted expense rather than a huge sudden out-of-pocket expense.

I submitted a service request to have some plumbing work done. The technician came out and he took a look at the job. He said he was going to order a part but I never heard from him after that. I called the plumbing company that was contracted a couple times and they didn't return my call. I reported it to American Home Shield. American Home Shield sent an email to the company and never got a response. Then I called again months later, asking what was the status of the service request. One of the agents called the company and was told that the job has been marked as complete. So all these months, the work has never been done, and the company marked the job as complete and apparently received payment from American Home Shield too, as well as my $100 deductible.
I called the plumbing company and offered to send them pictures of the pipe because it’s rusted at this point because it's been leaking for so long. They said they didn't want pictures and that they were not going to come back out to even look at it. I've had trouble in the past and my experience has always been horrible, but this is the most recent and the worst scenario that I have experienced.

The compressor that was attached to the air conditioner had broke and it need to be replaced. It was the best service I've ever had from American Home Shield in over 15 years. The tech came in, saw the problem, diagnosed it for five minutes and said he had to order the part. The part was in within two days. He got it replaced within an hour and we were good to go. There was no fighting back and forth about what was gonna be covered or not or me having to cover little extra parts. It was the easiest thing I've ever had to do with American Home Shield ever.
I've had incidents where stuff would break and the contractor would come and fix and then it would break a month later. I've had issues where the contractor would come in and then American Home Shield would say the part isn't covered. I had issues where stuff would break and they'd say, "Okay. We'll cover this, but not the other part." Or I have covered a certain section of labor. I’ve had some hit-and-miss experiences, but mostly missed.
I've had one thing that had to be repaired and then they weren't able to get a contractor there for about three weeks to even come look at it. Then they've had to order a part. So American Home Shield could expand their services to additional contractors. Also, rather than potentially encouraging contractors to use repaired parts or encourage them to repair mechanical items 50 times, they can just let them replace it. American Home Shield is really good for large, expensive items when they break. They replaced a whole HVAC system for me but then I found as I sell the house, it wasn't replaced with a new unit. It was replaced with an older unit. I enjoy American Home Shield when I don't have to drop large sums of money for repair and frustrated with it when I have to fight the private bureaucracy of it.

I just go online on my account and just a few clicks. American Home Shield has my card on file, so when I need to submit something or request a repair, it's quick and easy. I had a leak under my kitchen sink. Glenn was the plumber AHS sent out. He was very professional, super nice. My water heater went out a couple of years ago, and it was the same guy. He knows what he's doing. He came out twice for the kitchen sink leak because there was one noticeable leak and there was a tiny one that we missed. He came out and fixed it in five minutes, and then we were good to go.
I bought an older home and I'm semi recently divorced, so I was worried about everything going to crap all at once and having to cover all new appliances. It has been a blessing not having to stress about it and not having to worry about a huge repair cost. Anytime something goes wrong, I would be like, "I'll just check, see if it's covered by the warranty." I would definitely do it again if I were to move. I'm very satisfied.

The cooktop didn't work properly and my food was burning up. It was old and they said it couldn't be replaced. Then AHS sent a new cooktop, and the person who delivered was supposed to install it. But the two boys that delivered it said they don't install those. I asked them to measure it and they said, "Well, it doesn't really fit. It will fall through." There was a slight difference and AHS had informed me that they would not make any modification. Also, one of the delivery boys wrote down where they didn't install it and that they measured it and it didn't fit. So then I got a letter back saying they didn't install it because of the difference in size, which was a lie. They would not have installed it because they said they never done this before in their life. So the cooktop is still sitting on the floor. I had to order a part and I'm waiting now for someone else to come to install that.
Whenever I have a claim, I call AHS and tell them what's wrong. They call me back and they give me the name of a contractor that they have contracted with who will contact me and do the work. But I should not have been asked by AHS to measure a cooktop. That's not my expertise. Also, they sent an email with the different cooktops on there and that I have to choose one. They also said that if I get the cooktop and it doesn't fit, I cannot return it.

They installed it and everything was fine. Having American Home Shield is great because we didn't even know who to call to get the oven repaired. JJ’s Fire and Ice came out for the heating and then, there’s another problem going on now. But it was okay. I was already upset over some things before they ever came out and it wasn't their fault. They did their job. I wasn't prepared when they came out and said that they could fix the unit because I had been told by another company that we needed to replace our whole unit. We had to have someone come out right away because the AC was in bad shape and it was making a loud noise. I didn't know what I was gonna do. So, for the most part, American Home Shield does well, if you don't mind having the appliance repaired where you don't ever get a new unit. But it will come to a place where it has to be replaced.
Sometimes, you got to be patient because you have to wait. We’re waiting right now to have our air conditioner repaired. We're in Phoenix so we're not 100 degrees yet. But tomorrow, it should be. We’re hoping that they'll be out by tomorrow. Most the time, everything goes great. We get our service and everything's repaired usually in a timely fashion. We've had AHS for a long time and we're pleased because it gives us a lot of peace of mind knowing that we got some coverage in case something breaks down. They should make sure though that their technicians are reputable. But most of the time, they're doing good. We had a great one yesterday with our pool.

We called American Home Shield and my wife said it took a while, but we finally got through. The plumbers were all busy though. Finally, Bogott Plumbing came out. The plumber said he had to replace the pipe and put more glue on it. He was good, and he was nice. Now, we can use the kitchen sink. Once they got it fixed, we could do our dishes and clean our kitchen. Our garbage disposal’s there too. I would recommend Bogott Plumbing. My first claim was when something was wrong with the air conditioning. Climate Masters couldn't come out for a week. It was the hottest week of the year and I have no air conditioning. I bought a couple of portable units to try to cool down the house. Then, this last time they came out and fixed the air conditioning, it came on but then it was cold. When I went to turn the unit back on, the compressor outside sounded like a car that was trying to start that wouldn't start. I called them back and a week went by but I never heard from them. I called American Home Shield and their customer service guy got Climate Masters and said that a tech would schedule.
The tech wanted to set it up for the very next day and wanted me to wait from morning until the afternoon. But I was not gonna sit home all day for something they didn't fix the first time around. I'm not going to lose a whole day's worth of work. Then he said that the best day for him would be on Friday and he gave me his cellphone number. We haven't hooked up yet and he hasn't called me. It's cold now and we're not using air conditioning. But I need to get them back out here before it gets hot again. Another thing that I don't like with Climate Masters is I can't leave a message. I would call their number and I would get an answering machine telling me to leave a message but their mailbox is full. Other than that, American Home Shield is always good. When I called back and had a complaint, their guy got right on it. We didn’t hang up until we got it solved. I would recommend them.

Everything was very easy with American Home Shield’s claims process though I needed to talk to a rep to set the service up for Friday since I’m only off on that day. The plumber had to come back a second time because the toilet is an old one and it kept running. Then, he cleared the drain between my dishwasher and the garbage disposal. He did an excellent job and I was very pleased. The electrician did an excellent job too. AHS is great. I wouldn't have used them all these years. In one of my places, I ended up with another home warranty. They were horrible. I got rid of them and went back to AHS. They're fast, easy to talk to and the people that they send out are very good at their trade. When I sell my condo, I will purchase the new owners a year of AHS.

American Home Shield offered a $75 deal for them to come and service our air conditioner. I put in the request on that day and it said somebody will call me within 24 hours, and they did. The contractor called me within 24 hours. Unfortunately, they said the first opening was two weeks away, so they scheduled me. Then they called the day before they were supposed to come, they said that the guy with the van had his van in repair. So he wouldn't be available until the following Friday.
On Tuesday, they called in because they have too many appointments and asked if it would be all right if they came the following Wednesday instead. I was okay with that. So the tech finally did show up this past Wednesday. He did a really good job once he got here. He showed me some electrical part was worn out so he was wanting to replace it. Then I said, “Whatever it takes, I just need the air conditioning.” Because I have people that come in and we have to have the temperature at a certain degree. He said they would get right on it.
Submitting the service request is really simple. When I find something that needs to be repaired, I go in, put in the claim and within 24 hours, I’ve got somebody calling me or emailing me who the service person was going to be, and how to get ahold of them if they don't get ahold of me within 24 hours. So I really, really like that process. The contractors that have been out here have been very friendly and knowledgeable. Now, with the COVID situation, they have their masks.
Last summer, I had installed solar panels on my roof and the air conditioner all of a sudden went out. The contractor came out here and worked on it. They tried everything they could and it was working. But they hadn't been gone 24 hours when I had to call them back because the air conditioner wasn't working again. Finally, I had the idea to call the servicer of the solar panels and the man came out and he said there was a loose wire there that it should have been really tightened. So he fixed it and everything went well after that. But I really felt bad because I kept calling American Home Shield to send the serviceperson back out here because the air conditioner wasn't working. Overall, I am really happy with American Home Shield. I am really excited about their service and I really appreciate it.

The techs fixed the dryer and the washer previously. I had a wire pop off and they came out and fixed that. I didn't know what it was but once they found it, there was a wire and it wasn’t plugged up. It wouldn't allow the washer to even go into spin cycle. Everything worked right until that happened. Then the other day when we used it, the clothes took three times longer to dry because undoubtedly, the coupler was messed up on it. So they got a work order to come back out and their turnaround is a little long, which would take a week or so. The first time they came out, it was two weeks after I said something. But their work is exceptional. Their techs were also good and straightforward. They got the job done and told me everything that had been done. They were polite and professional, too.
Other than that, it has been easy to get through to AHS and talk to them. They're on top of my claim, too. It's just that the contractor, Whirlpool, is really busy and they're not somebody that never does anything. They're a big company and I'm sure they got to schedule everything accordingly. So as soon as they can get out and fix the washer or replace it, I'd be happy.
All in all, the warranty is beneficial if you have your own home with outdated appliances that are out of the normal everyday warranty. By getting AHS, it guarantees that your washer is going to be fixed and getting it fixed is easy. But getting it replaced takes a little bit, although they replaced the microwave for me. One time, I tried to get them to hook up the dishwasher and they said they couldn't do it because it wasn’t hooked up to begin with. It was just put in place. So I got to do that before I could get any warranty on it. As soon as the guy looked at it and saw that it wasn’t ever put in, it was not his baby. He also said that I had to call a plumber for that. So it went back to me, either replacing it or get one put in.
I also got an AC that doesn't work. The wires are so old that they're so brittle that they shorted out. That’s the thermostat wires going to the thermostat and they said they're not going to replace it. Then, they wouldn't replace the ductwork that the animals have got into. It was pre-existing, so it wasn't something they could fix. Now, I'm going to put in many units and I don't know if they will send somebody out to install the many units if I buy them or if they buy them. I want to get away with the ductwork and put the ductless units in, then I could control each room independently. It’ll save me in the long run even though they're more expensive.
AHS also replaced the hot water heater, but I had to pay for the expansion tank and getting it up to code because it wasn't put in the code. Then, there needs to be a plug ran for a gadget that I bought for at the same time that wasn’t for Home Shield to do. It would get the hot water to my sink more consistently and save me from having to buy one and put underneath my sink. So, they put that gadget on there. But the cord is going across the door and onto the wall. So I got to put in a piece, and I was going to call them and see if their electrician would do it or if I had to do it.

I'm upset with American Home Shield right now. I paid for a summer tune up for two AC units and it was $75 apiece. The reps came out and gave an evaluation. They gave a recommendation and then, they called me back. They told me that they were going to cover this amount and I would have to come out of pocket with this amount. I understand. So, I said okay. I paid $100 for diagnostic and I paid $100 to get them back out there to fix whatever they found. I'm trying to figure out what my $100 went to because the part of fixing it has not been done. I called AHS last week to inquire about it and they told me they were going to do some type of payout or opt out or option, and somebody will reach out to me. The signup was easy. It demystified things. They've made the payments bite-sized - you can do a payment and just get started within a month or whatever time that is. I had three calls in, three people came through and worked on an issue that I've had here. The air conditioning service is excellent. A very trustworthy person. Would love to use that company again. The appliance repair for my dryer called today. He received the part sooner than expected. He's doing a fantastic job. And then the plumber did a great job, as well, in correcting some issues that I’ve had sitting. And finally got a trusted advisor. AHS has done a good job in curating the people who come to our home. No pressure, just kind of, “What is your problem, let me help you get it done.” They've been prompt. It takes a lot of the guesswork or some of the DIY out but it can turn into a bigger mess when you don't have a pro come in.
I'm very happy with American Home Shield's service. Definitely will continue. I will use them again for electrical. If you are sensitive to budget allocation for service repairs, AHS is excellent in that space. If you want the comfort of knowing that there will be a trusted person who can come to your home and give you a true recommendation, I would also recommend AHS to that. I know when we buy a home, they can provide this type of policy. Every home should have it. Even people who own rental property, they should have it too.
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

I waited a couple days because when I tried to set the rekeying request up the first time, AHS said that my account wasn't fully set up yet. But once it was set up, the process was pretty easy. It only took me 10 to 20 minutes to set it up and they got someone to contact me within three days. We had planned to do it on a Saturday and the tech came a little early which was great. It took him 20 minutes to do the service.

Over the last three years, we have not been very happy with American Home Shield. Number one, the level of customer service is nowhere near what it used to be when we first signed up with them. And then, last week and a week prior, our AC went out on us, and it was pulling teeth to get someone out here. We did get someone out here the following day. And then we were told that we had to get a new compressor for the condenser. I called in every day, and I had a different representative every time. They don't sound like they're from around here. We had to wait well over a week, and we were without our AC for almost 10 days. It's Florida and it doesn't have to be summertime for us to bake in here. I even got sick because of this.
Over the last four years, we've had the AC serviced four times. Twice by ACE, and then once by AirBoss. Both told us that this unit is a little undersized for our house, and we don't even have a very big house. And now, it's out and ACE is going to be out here today between 2:00 and 4:00. Because they replaced the compressor, we bought some Freon, and then, last night, just before we went to bed, the blade stopped turning in the condenser. We placed the call because it was making some kind of noises as if something was just gonna come loose on the whole unit. It's very frustrating. And the thing is because I've had AHS for so long, I didn't want to consider having to get another provider. But now, that's looking more and more like it has to happen because we shouldn't be going through this frustration.
Thank you for reaching out to us in relation to your HVAC issue. We do apologize for any inconvenience and would love to assist more in a resolution. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

The motherboard of the AC was fried on it. So the contractor reordered it. They got a note from the air conditioning manufacturer that it shipped last Friday and they're supposed to get it within three to five days. Then they're gonna call me and set up an appointment. I also had a claim for a plugged-up kitchen sink in the ranch house. The contractor got out there in good time and got it fixed. It's been a pretty seamless experience. I'm glad I have AHS.

We had American Home Shield in Arizona when we lived there and they were wonderful. When we found out that they are here in Illinois, we jumped ship and went to them. We're very happy with them. We had our dishwasher fixed and they did a really good job. We just had a claim for the garage system. They put a new one in and it's wonderful. You push the button and the thing opens. The tech was also very professional. I asked questions and he explained things to me about our garage door. The only question he had was we have a garage door company right in the town we live in. He said, "Why don't you go with them instead of us in Missouri?" I said, "We have American Home Shield. They told us who was coming and we said okay." But anyway, we were happy with who American Home Shield sent.
I was not real happy with the guy with Sears that came out. My washer and dryer are in the basement. Apparently, because it’s computerized, he had trouble with his phone and had to get onto our Wi-Fi which was okay. But he was upset because he was having so much trouble of where the washer and dryer were located. He fixed it then I went up to the kitchen and did something at my stove. He asked, "You gotta clean that?" I asked, "Clean what?" He showed me where the gas comes out, you have to scrub those things every so often not just around everything. I didn't know you were supposed to touch those. He cleaned it then he said, "That's 50 bucks."
When we first moved here, the first thing we had to replace was the dishwasher. Sears came out and the two guys charged us to take the dishwasher away. They took all the copper tubing from underneath my sink to do the dishwasher. Then they told us it was $50 for something else. We paid our deductible and we ended up paying another $50 to the guy. That's one reason we were very unhappy with the first ones we had. This is second time we've had the same thing. They tried to get $50 from me. The first time, we paid it because we didn't know any better. This time, I said no. I don't know who would fix my washer and dryer if it goes out again but I don't want them to come back.

Southern called me and sent me a message on the phone, and said they were designated by American Home Shield to come out to do it. And then they let me know when they would be able to. However, the tech showed up earlier than I anticipated. I was at work and they told me they would come between 3:00 and 7:00. I was the only one who would be able to be home. I anticipated getting off work and going home, I would be there when the guy got there. But he called me before then, so I just had to make arrangements to leave work early. Other than that, they were responsive. They came out and checked my air conditioning. One of them said he needed to replace the coils and something else, but that was it. The air condition works good. But he said because the coils are getting closer, they are getting burnt. He said they need to be replaced.

When the AC unit was blowing but it wasn't cold, I was kind of freaked out about the claims process because I don't pay attention to the policy as it just gets paid automatically. I found the website and got on. As soon as I put in my warranty number, it had everything already populated in there. I just had to make a few clicks to say what was wrong then within minutes, I got a call from the air conditioning place. I had an appointment within 36 hours. The window was between 8:00 and 12:00 and the tech was there by 9:00. He checked everything and within an hour, came to the door and said everything was fixed. He came in the house again to make sure that the temperature was correct. He even wore little booties on his shoes in my house.

You select the kind of order that you need and you're done. It's very easy. In my recent claim, I called American Home Shield and the work order was processed quickly. The contractor was in my house two hours later that I put it in. So, I can't complain on anything about their readiness and how fast they fixed my problem. I don’t know though if the report that the contractor gave to AHS was accurate because there was no diagnostic done. Still, if you want to have peace of mind on whatever happens to your house, you go with American Home Shield. I have an older house and it needs a lot of attention. They get a contractor out to us and the issue is resolved quickly. Everything's been covered and the speed of claims being processed is great. We've had claims for issues with outlets, some plumbing then most recently our dryer. It was repairable but because of covid, the part was going to be out like a month. American Home Shield issued a replacement so we didn't have to be without a dryer for that long. The replacement took about two weeks and it's equal to our old dryer.

The first claim we had with American Home Shield was good. The second one, I'm very upset at them right now and I'm looking to cancel. I put in the claim on March 31 for two water heaters and they finally came out to install my water heaters. When they got here, they said that American Home Shield ordered the wrong water heaters. I have little kids in my house and we've been without hot water for almost a month. So now we have to wait until they reorder the water heaters and then wait for the company to reschedule us. Since the freeze happened, the plumbing companies here are backed up. So there's no telling when we'll get back on the schedule for them to come back out to reinstall the new water heaters.

Filing a complaint with American Home Shield is pretty easy. The only thing was last year when we had our hot water heater replaced. I ended up paying 1,500 for the extra costs even though the tank was covered by American Home Shield. They said the codes have changed and they had to change the pipes but the pipes they put on were exactly the same thing that we already had. Also, we asked AHS to give us the tank and we can find someone to install it but they said they could not do that. I can only go with the people who are assigned through them. Then, I said I'm not happy with the first quote I got and that I want to go with a second quote and they said I will end up paying more from my pocket because they are not going to cover that second quote. I was cornered and I just went with whoever they're saying.
But recently, there was water leaking inside the fridge somewhere. We tried unplugging it and defrosting, thinking that the lines were defrosted, but nothing worked and it kept forming thick sheets of ice under the crisper. We called American Home Shield and the tech from BRM Services was prompt. He showed up the very next day. He knew exactly what the problem was, took care of it, and was very professional.

The tech that came out was great. He was responsive and professional. It took a little while to get the part, but that was because it was coming from Europe. This is my first year with American Home Shield and I was really happy with how easy it was to put the claim online and with the response back. The only issue was that because the brand of oven that he was fixing is a little bit obscure, I would get an email and it would say that the contractor has been assigned. But nobody let me know that that contractor had turned it down because he didn't work on that product. So they had to go through a third person. But I kept getting these things saying, “Your contractor's been assigned.”
There was no process to let me know that the contractor couldn't do the service because they didn’t work on that product. So I thought I was supposed to be getting somebody, and then I thought I wasn't going to get that guy because he turned it down. But it only took a day and a half for that to get straightened out. It didn't cause a lot of delay. Everything was fine.

Stay Away! Scam. This is one of the worst companies in existence. Do not get a home warranty from them. You are wasting your money. It is a scam. I paid almost $2,000 dollars in premiums, and when I requested a repair for a broken coil and evaporator, that they installed 4 years ago, they said it would cost $1404. I just canceled and they charged me to cancel my account. Ridiculous!! You are better off putting $50 a month into your savings account, then when an appliance or system fails, use that money from your savings.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

Once you dial in, it's pretty easy to make a claim with American Home Shield. You are also able to put any claims or any issues that you have on their website and they would reach out to you pretty quickly. I had an appliance issue and that was handled greatly. The initial issue was that one of our burners kept going tick, tick, tick and we couldn't figure out what was going on. A guy came out, took off the dial, and saw that it was broken. He had to order a new one. In the meantime, he switched things so that the broken dial would be on the smallest burner so we would know not to use that one. The other three are the ones that we would mainly be using. Once the contractor got the new dial, they called us and they came in. Within five minutes, they changed the dial and they had me turn it on. They themselves turned it on too so that we both tested the dial to make sure that it was running well.
For the most part, I'm enjoying the service of American Home Shield. Their customer service has been good. They don't cover exactly everything but for the most part, they do. They covered me needing a new water heater so that was great. That would have cost me a lot of money. Typically, they had JED Mechanical come in here to take care of things like that and they did a great job. I had them here about three or four times for a variety of issues and they seemed to do well. They were open and honest about what was and what was not covered by the home warranty. I had an issue one time with my AC and the part that I had was not covered under my warranty. I didn't know who to call and I was told about someone that I could call to discuss these types of things.
Having a home warranty is definitely better than not having it because you never know what's gonna happen. Had I not had American Home Shield, it could have cost me anywhere between $5,000 to $10,000 for a new water heater. You may pay a monthly or a quarterly premium. But in the end, it works out well. The great part is that typically when the contractors come out, they know that you already spent $75 for them to be there. Sometimes, they would do their best to write tickets in a manner that you are not having to pay a whole lot of extra money if it's a part that needs to be ordered, which is great.

I've had very good interactions with all of the contractors. The only one that I had issues with was the follow-up with Sears. They were working on our washing machine. They said they needed to order a part and that they were gonna be out. They scheduled to come out in two weeks and then nothing. That was in December and there was no follow through. I contacted through the website again in February or March, and they got online with them. Then it all went through. But that was kind of ridiculous. Other than that, American Home Shield has been pretty good about getting someone out there in a timely manner. It is worth it for me. I would rather pay the monthly fee and then the initial charge for the contractor to come out to know that if something was to go wrong and they can't fix it, then they will replace it and help do so. We have a one-stop shop where we can go if we have any issues.

My claim experience was an A/C tune-up, recommended every six months or so. I got an email from American Home Shield notifying us that we were eligible for it for $75. Cost of a claim is $125 with the plan that we have, so it sounded like a good deal. I wasn't able to schedule it through the website, but later found out that that was because we hadn't activated the ability to do that. I gave American Home Shield a call and got signed up over the phone. I got the notification from Sierra to schedule the appointment. They came out, got us all taken care of, and gave us not only great service but also insight into our A/C system, and what we could expect in the next couple years. They were very knowledgeable and professional and we really appreciated their work, and also American Home Shield in facilitating it.
This is our first preventative maintenance deal, which we'll definitely be doing in the future as those emails come up. We've had great experience. We've been with American Home Shield for at least a period of time to where we have that assurance that the money coming out of our account every month is going towards things that just happen. We know that if something happens, we'll have a conversation about it, and we'll likely, if not definitely, end up paying less out of pocket than we would have had we not been with American Home Shield.
Fortunately, we haven't had major things happen, but we had an issue six months ago with our kitchen sink that required multiple dispatches. It turns out that it was just a faulty hose line that the whole batch had been sent that was faulty. The hose line got replaced, and then, it leaked again, and then the hose line got replaced again. We knew what the problem was, but it took a couple come outs for it to get fixed. At the same time, everybody was professional throughout the process. Everybody was also transparent and communicative, and we were very impressed. My wife is an escrow processor for a real estate title company, and both personally and professionally, we've recommended American Home Shield to friends, and in and of itself, the idea of a home warranty and what it can provide.
The home warranty is a great investment, and it's one of those things that if they taught a course in Adulting 101, that would be part and parcel. Realtors do a great job of explaining the benefits to their buyers as they go through the transaction. For us, we've had our house over 10 years. We got the warranty when we first bought the house because it was included, as it often is nowadays, by the seller, for a one-year period. Nothing happened within that year, and we said, "Oh, is it really worth it?" It is. Having the foresight to start it back up has done wonders for us.

This was the fifth time we've had a claim for our air conditioner and this contractor was probably the best one. The air conditioner is functioning. Everything works the way it's supposed to.
Everybody did their job. Everybody was polite. The only part I found annoying was the automated phone service with HSA. They give you the option to pay for your 75 service fee, but the numbers weren't reading. It asks you what kind of card do you want to pay with and you keep hitting the button. Then you try to schedule that for an operator then that doesn't work. It finally goes through and then you get an operator and then you have to start all over. None of your information that you had entered are retained after being on the phone for five minutes. You have to start it all over back at zero. I was on the phone for at least five minutes before talking to an operator because there was this automated service. But once I got an operator, everything was fine.

Patriot Plumbing was excellent. The problem was I had a drip in the tub and the water dripped. I couldn't turn it off by the knob. So when the tech came, he tried to shut it off by the knob. He tried to change a washer or something that was in it, but it evidently didn't work. He had to go on the wall and change out some piping. I ended up leaving because I had to return back to work and my brother and daughter was there. Then the tech gave me a call and he was telling me that what was in there was rusted and he wasn't gonna be able to fix the leak, but he had turned the cold water completely off because that was what was leaking. Then when he came back, it took three hours to do the work. It's been great after the repair.
The showerhead was loose and when I called Patriot Plumbing back, they said the part didn't have anything to do with the other part we did in the wall to the bottom half being loose. The rep told me that the work that the tech did shouldn't affect the showerhead at all. But she said I could put a new claim in and they can come back out and check it out. So it's just gonna have to be loose until something else is wrong because I'm not going to pay another $100. But overall, I like American Home Shield better than the previous company that I had. They're faster to react. It was very simple to get through if I had a claim. I put in the work order and I get a call right away from whoever they tell me is going to call and they set up an appointment right away. So that part is nice.

But then I got a call from them right away the same day to set up a appointment. I got a call from a woman to set up an appointment. She was very friendly. A lot of times with people, it seems like you're bothering them, but she was very cheerful to help. Later that day, she called me and said, “Okay, we've got a more affirmed time that the guy's going to come.” She was very happy to work with my schedule because I had two things scheduled that day. I had a conference call at 8:00 and a haircut at 2:45, and she was very accommodating to put me into the schedule between those hours.
The technician himself called and told me that he was on his way the next day. He arrived when he said he would. He was pretty sure he knew what the problem was even before he got here so he had ordered a part ahead of time. He picked it up. He replaced it. He showed me what the problem was. He told me what causes it and how to avoid it in the future. I was very happy with him and I would request Eberhardt again if I ever had another issue with an appliance. I'm very happy that I have the insurance because then I don't have to worry about finding a reputable company. I like not having to hunt somebody out and find someone. I really like the idea that if anything goes wrong, I don't have to live with broken appliances in my house because I might not have the money at that time. So the best solution was to do what he did, which was put LED light bulbs in so the heat’s not there and the thermostat doesn't need to function. Without tearing the wall up, we got it analyzed. And the way the house is put together, it's like the walls are a sandwich. Then, the electrical stuff is in the middle of the sandwich and when they were putting the walls together, they didn't think about somebody needing to get to those parts. But he managed to work around that gingerly.
Otherwise, he would’ve cut a hole in the wall, replaced what was there, then separate from the Home Shield activity, any wall repair would have been on my nickel. So he was thoughtful enough to organize the work in a way to get the light functioning again and not have to tear the wall up at my expense, which all worked out for the better.
I have two properties, I have Home Shield on both of them, and I’ve had work done at both of them. One of the problems today, in general, is the contractors are all very busy. So, because I have Home Shield, I don't know that I get serviced faster because Home Shield’s involved. But at least people, for one reason or another, believe they can honor what we used to call a Rolodex, companies that they're affiliated with can be dispatched. And sometimes it would be days before they can get there. It's not an emergency, but at least you’re not going to Yelp and trying to find a plumber on your own and be told that it would be three weeks out before the tech could get over there. And that's gotten to be quite common, depending on where you live in the country. So there's so much new construction in some areas that the contractors don't do small jobs, and a lot of what Home Shield does has to do with those small jobs.
One of the jobs I had to do was to replace the housing that the refrigerator filter goes in. The filter is fine and the tube that gets to it is fine, but the housing that was supposed to seal it in cracked, so the filter leaked. And if it didn't seal properly, it leaked on the floor. An appliance repair outfit came out to fix that. Then we've had a couple of plumbing activities and American Home Shield's contractors fixed us up on that as well. The people that they dispatched are licensed professionals and they’re safe to be in your house. There are things that you might worry about as a homeowner having a stranger coming and going. So I've been very happy with the service. Home Shield executes as good or better than most and that's reflected in a lot of their reviews. And because we've had more than one company, we're not changing and we're in the process of renewing this month.
The only nit I would pick with any of these companies is sometimes, because of your luck in life, you happen to know a contractor or be aware of one that you would recommend. But warranty companies don't have the latitude in their business practice to turn that decision back to the customer. They have to look at the big picture. If they've got 50 customers in that town, they can't afford to have one of them have a bad experience because they took their own advice about a contractor. Another thing is, the contractors agreed to the pricing policy and they get the $75 service fee every time you call them, which keeps you from calling for really trivial stuff. But some of the things are difficult. In the case of the housing of my refrigerator filter, the tech had to take the front panel, where the water dispensing equipment is on a refrigerator, off and replace a part inside that. And that's labor, you can't get around that. That's not a big emergency, but it's the kind of thing that because you have the service, you're in it for $75 on top of your monthly premium anyway.
And labor's high right now. You pay a plumber to come out, you might be in it for 100 bucks an hour or more. And that makes that premium plus the service call, fee look pretty small, and you don't hesitate to do it. So, you keep things maintained at a higher level because you're going to have to fix it sooner or later. And if it's the same price, no matter what, out of pocket. You just pick up the phone and get it done. Plus, you're not trying to mine all your friends asking if they know a a guy that'll do a certain job at a lower price point.
So, we've put AHS at the top of the list. With them, we've never been put on hold and we've never had to wait for anything that they were responsible for. It's just that the contractors are busy, especially with people like plumbers, electricians and HVAC people, there are true emergencies in their line of work that they have to respond to preferentially. So as long as you don't expect to be waited on tomorrow, you're gonna be happy with the service.
We are grateful for the time that you've taken to share you AHS experience. Please let us know if you need any assistance in regards to your warranty. Have a great week.

There was some leaking around my valve cover and my filter. When I called American Home Shield, the customer service was excellent. The reps tried to do their best to try to be as thorough as they could and gave the approvals with the tier of authority they have. When I spoke with the repair guy, he said it was probably from the freeze. If it’s from the freeze, AHS would not cover it. I told him that he hadn’t even looked at the pipes yet. It’s an old system. It was one of those deals where you already knew what it was. AHS sent two pool people out and I had an issue with the first one but the second one was great. AHS does what they’re paid to do. American Home Shield's service has been adequate. The response time, sometimes, is not as quick as we'd like but normally, the repairs are done well. The response time takes about two days. Sometimes, we'd like a next-day service. The vendors that American Home Shield uses became a bit more responsive. I recently had an electrical issue and that was done well and relatively timely. It was just a day and a half or so when they came out. They fixed it in a very short time. Overall, having AHS is cost-effective. Fortunately, I haven't had too many problems, so I haven't used it as much as my premium is but it's there.

I've had to have my air conditioners repaired every spring and every winter and every time, American Home Shield sends a different person and they always do a patch-up job. Also, it's hard to get through on the phone. It's hard to get reimbursed too. But with my electrical issue this most recent time, the electrician went above and beyond. He was willing to come in on Sunday if he had to to fix the problem.

American Home Shield has always been very professional and gotten in contact with me really quickly on the few times that I've requested service. The repair person who came out had his mask on and was very polite and professional. He asked me to point to where I thought the problem may be. I told him my power had gone out and when I had started to use a specific outlet, the power came back on. Then he had an idea of what was wrong. I have a microwave upstairs where the bedrooms are. He talked about how that pulled a lot of power and how it shorted out the wire, and how it would continue to do that if I continued to use it. He also talked about how I needed a dedicated line. He was really, really informative and professional.
The repair person asked about the ceiling fans, which he said was on the service request. It was that way on the service request because I wasn't able to input that I was having an electrical problem too. I pointed him to the fan. He went and got my little stepladder and he went up. He clicked on the switch and then, the fan came on. So, I had no idea how that switch was off 'cause I was never up there and messing with it but he was very kind and courteous. He didn’t make me feel like an idiot. If I had the choice of having him come back with something else, I would request him.

It has been very frustrating dealing with American Home Shield. During COVID, they hired people along to help because they got overwhelmed with so many claims. But they hired some untrained employees that really didn't know what they were talking about. When I called them before, I was on hold for 45 minutes to an hour to get ahold of someone that was trained. But now, they hired a middle person who has no idea what they're doing.
American Home Shield should have a system on their computer. You can log in to your account and see what they're doing with the claim, if it's complete or not. But there's no in-between, saying if your check’s on the way or if they mailed the check this day. There are no details. So you have to call and try to talk to someone. Then they have to send a message to the accountant when there's a problem. So you can't even talk to someone to let them know what's going on. There's no phone number to call someone directly. You have to leave a message after you have been waiting. But now with this middleman person that they hired, it's even worse.
The middlemen are like they're reading off a sheet of paper. So it's very frustrating, because all I wanted to do that I can't do on my account is, “Please, don't mail my check to my rental property. It needs to be mailed to my home address.” December 1st was when the receipt was submitted, and we just got reimbursed for it on Monday because they mailed the check twice to our rental property and not to us. But American Home Shield is good at reimbursing for claims. They really are on top of it, and they get someone out here. But they need to fix the problem with customer service.

They tested the unit and found out there was hardly any refrigerant in the system. They filled it with nitrogen to find out where the leak was. I called again yesterday and the guy went to try to fix. He checked everything. And then he started taking a picture of the unit because he said there was nothing that he could do to fix it. Because he said this thing is not working anymore. And he said that we can't turn it on. So right now, I don't have AC. Other than that, every time when I put the claim, everything works good. The most recent claim was put in for a leaking plumbing. It took a little longer than expected because I put it in then I had to call back American Home Shield saying that nobody contacted me. Then somebody contacted me. I had boxes in the shower and I told the technician, “I can move the boxes in case you need to dump the water from the toilet into the shower." He told me not to worry about it. But the next thing I know, there was a lot of water that came from upstairs, through the ceiling downstairs, into the other bathroom that we ended up having to clean up.
I had an old furnace and American Home Shield kept trying to repair it. I asked, “Why don't you just replace it?” They never replaced it. They just kept adding parts to it and bandaging it. That went on for a long time. Year after year, I kept having issues with the freaking furnace. I had extra electric plug in heaters because we had to use those in the bedroom and move them from room to room where we were going to because we were waiting for a part that was being ordered from out of state. I ended up having to pay for a new furnace on my own because I got tired of them patching it and patching it. I'm on the fence whether or not I'm going to renew for the year because I spent all this money on getting a new furnace and it's 800 bucks to renew for the year. There have been times that I put in the work order and then it turns out it wasn't covered so I would cancel the claim. I should be able to cancel it as easily as I can book them. Also, I was really hoping that if it's something they can't fix and need to replace, the replacement would be something new as opposed to starting the cheapest way up and then potentially having another issue. If they replace a part with something refurbished, it could stop working and then I gotta put in another request. It's gonna cost me another deductible to repair that one as opposed to if I just got a new one to begin with.

Sears sent one guy and he ordered parts for the washer. The parts that came in wasn't even what they wanted. I got those parts in about two weeks. I didn't know what it was, so I called them. Then they said they were gonna send someone up but they didn't do it for about a month. When the guy for the dryer came, he said he needed parts and those took about three weeks to get here. Eventually, the guy from the washer came and got it fixed. He told me, “We can’t find these parts, so I'm just gonna put a little cream at those parts right there. And when it’s put, after I add a little bit of grease, and that will take care of your problem.” But he said that the next time the guy comes, he doesn't think I was gonna find the parts.
The other guy came for the dryer and the parts that came were the right. He replaced them and everything has been fine. But overall, since American Home Shield doesn't have a repairman here in Imperial Valley for dryers, they have to get people. The first guy came from San Diego. Another guy came from Indio, California. There was a guy from Yuma. The other one was a trainee that just started here in the Valley. The claim took about a month and a half. But other than that, it was good.
I usually call American Home Shield for my claims. I like to give them a more or less detail of what's actually happening so they can pinpoint the request. Everything’s good. The people from Home Shield is great. They’ve treated me good. I've been with Home Shield for quite some time and my experiences with them have been great. But the problem is with their techs. I had another problem with a refrigerator and I called Home Shield. They got me a tech from here in the Valley. But he couldn't come for at least three to four weeks. I knew the guy and I used to have them come and check our appliances before. The guy said he would be there in two weeks since he knows me. That's one of the problems here in Imperial Valley because we don't have those kind of technicians around. But other than that, I really love Home Shield and the process.

So he tightened all of those wires and he said he was gonna check outside to see if everything was okay. He told me that if I have any other issues with it, then I need to call SCE&G.
I called American Home Shield and told them I needed the guy to come back out because my problem wasn't fixed. So they were gonna send everything back to the contractor, and the contractor would get in touch with me, or I could contact the contractor. But the contractor never got back in touch with me, and I had called the guy that came out here about three times. He finally texted me and said, "Oh, I'll call you right back." But he never called back. I called SCE&G out to come to my house, and they put something on my electric box for five days to see if the flickering was caused from their end. It wasn't any individual who I had a problem with, it was just the overall process of explaining that it's an emergency. It was poor service response. Then there were a few times when Home Shield didn't want to do the work or didn't want to cover things. I had to pay for my own water heater. It cost me almost two grand 'cause it wasn't up to code. No one ever calls me back, so I call again, and I'm told the same thing. After 4 weeks I finally gave up on ever getting even so much as an estimated date when my part would be delivered, and I bought a new AC.
When I called to find out what my buy-out options are, I was told that a buy-out is not an option because a fix has to be tried+failed first, but still no one can give me a straight answer as to when a fix will ever even be attempted. Truly a great racket, you just string people along until they are so frustrated that they give up. I've asked multiple times for a supervisor to follow up with me, never happened. We've had two claims where Big Kountry came out. The last one we had was the ice maker and it was super fast. The tech was a really nice guy. He also came yesterday to look at our washing machine again. We had another company through American Home Shield, which was Astro Appliance and they've been here four times looking at it. They took the controller board and kept it for about six weeks to rebuild it and came back. But it still wasn't working. So they opened up a new case and had Big Kountry come out. Both companies were very good, nice, clean and professional.
I submitted my claims with AHS on the phone. I didn't see where we could do it online. I saw there's a chat function, but I never got it to work. I clicked on it, nothing happened. 'Cause I also had to call about an issue that they were going to charge me $100 again for the washing machine. Since January, we've had five times people looked at it and it still hasn't worked. So I talked to a gentleman this morning and he said that the fee shouldn't be there.

And then I later received an email saying, “You will be contacted within a certain amount of time by the actual company.” So there was a discrepancy in the beginning after filing and receiving some correspondence saying, “Hey, you need to call this number” when in actuality, I was just supposed to stand by and wait to be contacted. Other than that, the service was direct and prompt. I understood everything that was going to happen within the next couple of days. Also, everything was fine with the visit. The technicians were very professional and courteous, knew exactly what they were looking for, and completed the service call and got everything up and running very quickly.

When I do a claim, I do it online, and it's pretty easy. But it’s hit-or-miss as far as when somebody gets back to me. It depends on the companies that American Home Shield choose. Sometimes, they got back to me immediately, and I had something scheduled the next day. But I've had other times where days and days have gone by and the company hasn't called me. It might work a little better if we could choose a company because there was a time that the company they chose was two counties away from me. I'm also concerned that every single time a service technician has come out, they at least tried to talk me into buying more stuff, either repairing other things or doing something. It's like they're not settled with the money that they're getting from American Home Shield. I have never had a company come out and just done the job and left. They always try to talk me into spending more.
If you don't have the money in your savings to always be shelling out thousands of dollars for a repair, it's good to have American Home Shield as at least a primary backup for when things go wrong. You have to pay a certain deductible and then they do the work. If that's the way it always ran, way more people would do the American Home Shield and other companies like that. But from a lot of people that have done it before, they all say, “Well, the thing is that they come out and they wanna do other stuff, and then they had to do more repairs. And they say things aren't included.” So it's kind of a hit-or-miss.
The quality of what you get for what you're paying for is pretty good with American Home Shield. But I do wish that they would vet people a little better and have a wider network of people to call on. When people are closer by, the relationship is there and they understand that they're not to come to the clients’ houses and try to eke more and more money off of the clients.

We've had a few claims. American Home Shield And they fixed some and not others. My most recent claim was for an air conditioner problem and American Home Shield fixed that. It turned out some workers that had come by to fix a problem that we had in the basement had unplugged part of the air conditioner. The guy just had to plug that part back in. Before that, I had something going with the plumbing on the outside of my house and they charged me 75 bucks, but they couldn't do anything about it. There was another time when they said they couldn't fix all the issues I had with the plumbing. They said it wasn't covered.
When the inspector checked the house, he should have checked the water pressure and he didn't, and I didn't know that. And when the plumber came out, he said the water pressure on the house was too high, and that was what caused some of the other problems with the plumbing. They changed the pressure, but they wouldn't fix any of the other problems because they said those were secondary because of the water pressure. I had been there three weeks when we started having issues.
American Home Shield's customer service is terrible. When we had the plumbing thing fixed, it ended up costing me close to $1,000. But AHS said they would send me a check for $150 because I had been there for so short of time. And there were some other issues but they never sent a check because they said they were going to, and I just never got it. I called about it and sat on hold, and they said that they were sorry yet I still never got it.
Trying to get in touch with people and talk to them there is ridiculous. And it's impossible to talk to people there. They would always say, "Well, put it in the website." So, I didn't even try to call about the thing in the outside. I just put in the thing for plumbing. Maybe if I was able to talk to somebody, they would have told me before I paid the $75 that they couldn't do it. It seems they're fine with taking the $75 to send someone out, but they're not so keen on fixing anything. And it's easy. If I knew anything about air conditioners, I would have known to plug that thing in, but I've never owned a house before, so I didn’t know little things like that.

The temperature on the furnace was set at 76 and the temperature was going down sometimes to 69 during the night but it would usually turn itself on at 9 o'clock in the morning and it would start to heat up the house. The problem was that companies come out during the day and not at night. I have the type of thermostat that emails me when there's a problem. So, it was emailing me at 12 o'clock at night, 1 o'clock and 4 o'clock in the morning saying the same thing. This was back when it was very cold and we had several companies come out several times. But when they came out, the furnace was working so they didn't know what to do about it. They finally contacted the manufacturer of my unit.
The unit is only a year and a half old and it's a powerful unit. So, I wasn't expecting to have any problems. But the company said it's probably the control panel. So A & R ordered it and about a week later, they came out and put it in. The thing is, now that it's warmed up, I haven't been able to turn the heat on to see if it's working at night. The air conditioner part of it is working, which is what I need during the summer so that's fine now. I'll have to wait and see when the temperature goes down. I asked why I can’t just turn the heat up and the tech said that if it’s warm outside, all kinds of safety features will go off and I won't be able to tell if it's on and if the heat is working at night.
When we bought this house in 2001, I started with American Home Shield. They were my only one for a while but I stopped my membership for a little bit because I was mad that they sent out a plumber who didn't do anything and wouldn't give me my $75 back. So I said that they forget about it. I had to have a plumber out and he had to snake my drain and he charged me 150. So I said that I better start up my membership again with AHS. I'm glad I did because my heater stopped working and I needed them. I've been with them for so many years and I like that they send who they want out. But sometimes, like with A & R, they weren't going to be able to come out for a few days and it was very cold at the time. I even called One Hour Heating and I would have paid for them to come out. But by the time they were due to come out, my heater went on. So that was only one day.
It would be better that when I need somebody immediately, they would come out right away. So if I had the option to do that with AHS, I would like that. AHS sends out their own people but they could look and see if there was an emergency company that would come out at the time somebody needs it. Everybody should have one of these warranty companies. I was thinking about changing to Sears at one time but one of the companies said that AHS covers a lot more than Sears does. So I said that I better stick with AHS and I'd recommend them.

There's no way that it just happened." But in my bathroom, we have one of those cabinets that go over the toilet. So, there's no way for anything to have dropped onto that one. So, we were going to do a new toilet tank at first, but then, 'cause from my kid's bathroom, they were able to replace just the tank and leave the toilet itself. They tried to do the same thing again with this one, but then it turned out that Glacier changed the size of the toilet tank. It was the same guys who fixed it the first time. It was very nice. In the first couple of years that I used American Home Shield, there was a lot of delays and getting responses back, and waiting on hold on the phone, trying to get ahold of somebody. But in the last year or so, I've seen a tremendous improvement. It seems like when I put in a call for a technician to go to one of my properties, I usually get assigned a contractor within 5 or 10 minutes. I usually receive a phone call within a couple of hours from that contractor, looking to schedule an appointment.
Even in the summertime, when it's really, really hot, and these AC companies are really really busy, I seem to get really good treatment from these companies calling back and then scheduling their time going out there. There was one particular company called Stockton Appliances continually called and made sure that I was informed about them coming back. They called back and made sure that I was happy. So the contractors that American Home Shield is using are performing at a higher level than I have seen in the past.
When I had Act Appliances Incorporated come out, the lady in customer service there was really good at communication. The company was really good too. I had another claim for my AC and the contractor didn't have the part when they came out. So they had to order the part and then they came back the next day and made the repair. It went very well.
When I go to my account on American Home Shield's website, I can always look at what my fees were. If I ever had a contract with American Home Shield on a particular property, I can go on my account and find out what I paid four or five years ago, and if there's been any cost increases. I’ve been really happy with being able to navigate the site, also.

I told her to put me on a list for cancellation.
Everything eventually went well and the technician was very knowledgeable. He came out quickly. He took the dryer apart, tightened up everything, put it back together and ordered the part. The part came in quickly and he put it in. The guy who came out works Saturday and he works six days a week. Everything's fine now. It takes two people to do the job 'cause somebody has to be under the sink. They came out the second time with two people. One guy worked underneath and they knocked it out in about 10 minutes.

I put the order in and the contractor tried to come out the next day. I was not ready for them so I had to set up a day where I could take work off and they could come. They got there pretty quick. The tech came in and hooked up his equipment to the outside unit. Then we went inside and he cranked it all the way down so the air would kick on. He checked all the pressure, went up in the attic and made sure that there were no leaks from the tubing. He found that my condenser was going out. He had one in his truck so he swapped the condenser. I asked, "Is that part of it?" He said, "I don't know. I don't care. It's a $10 part and I have it in the truck." After that, we went back inside and he checked some other things. He offered to change my filters but I told him I'd do it. He found out I was good on my freon.
I was a little worried 'cause I saw on Google they had a lot of bad reviews but they were awesome. I really liked them. They were respectful of my house and me. They also came to my house before. After I moved to that house, my heater quit working. It was an older guy then and he was excellent. He cleaned the pilot light and showed me how to read the warning lights. He said, "If it breaks again, call me." He gave me his cell phone number. It did end up breaking again and I called him. He came back with a part and installed it. It was all covered under the 75 bucks fee.

I had some issues with some plug that was causing pretty much all the plugs to go out upstairs on my top floor and Beacon Hill came out. The experience was great. I couldn't have asked anything better. The tech made things easy, explained what he was going to do and resolved the issue in a timely manner. Super-duper professional, but human at the same time. Wasn't just a transactional thing. He built a lot of rapport and answered a lot of my questions that I had.
AHS made it easy on their end too. The one thing I really like is, one, how easy it was to get someone and how less IVR-ish things were. I enjoyed the easiness of getting to speak with someone. Once I got to speak with someone, they understood what I was trying to do. My sister just purchased her second home and I suggested AHS to her and she started it up herself. I'm already sending the word, "AHS is a good company to work with. Try them out."

I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. I've always had a great response time and my needs have always been met. When I have a claim, I like to speak with an agent versus going online. Given a little bit of history, I always prefer that I stay with the same company if they are doing the work satisfactorily. Also, when I speak with agents, they’re very cordial and professional. If I do a claim online, it's a random assignment of a company. I'm appreciative that American Home Shield has entertained the time to make sure to assign the same companies repeatedly because I find that consistency is more helpful to me.
In the 25 years and the five houses we had, we've never not had a home warranty. We've been in the house since 2012 and American Home Shield came with it. Metro Air Services has been pretty much my heating and air conditioning company. I always want them to come out. We had American Home Shield and one other warranty in our prior homes.

The plumber did a great job with the faucet. Once he saw it, he knew exactly what the problem was. He was in and out not even half an hour. When I have a claim, I go online and set up the appointment. American Home Shield usually gets back to me within a few minutes sometimes to let me know that they forward the request out to one of their vendors. Someone always gets back to me by the end of the day. They're very responsive. I've had a problem with my heating, my refrigerator and my dishwasher, and each time, they've taken care of everything. I plan to stay with American Home Shield as long as I'm in this townhouse because of the age of it.

A tech drained those two areas out so that helped my basement water to flow better than it did. The tech said he didn't want to drill a wall up there to see where the leak was from because we would hear it for a moment but it would stop. He told me it was nothing that I should worry about and he told me that it would be no charge for him to come back out to double-check. Overall, it was great service and the work didn't take long at all. The tech also gave me some tips about putting something to stop anything from clogging up the sink or my tub. He was very helpful. The self-cleaning part of the double oven stayed on for over 12 hours and I was really scared because that could be a fire hazard. The contractor came out and said that it needs a part but they couldn't get it so they said that they would order a new oven. It was on backorder so AHS gave me a choice of either taking the dollar amount or waiting for it to come in. I thought they would price it out the same one but it was half the amount, so I said I would wait for it. Then, the tech came and he didn't know how to put the new oven in. It turned out that somebody else had to come in and hook it up. But the contractor who came and installed it, Long Lane, was wonderful. They knew exactly what they were doing and they were very professional.
American Home Shield needs improvement in its communication. It should have been explained ahead of time that a different contractor would be coming to install the new oven. Also, now, I have an issue with my stove and the gentleman said he doesn't think they can get the part needed. It's been almost a month and I don't know what we're doing about that part. Other than that, AHS is one of the best companies that I have dealt with. I recommend them to everyone because they do what they said. So I paid him out of pocket. I was pretty dissatisfied because it should have been covered under the American Home Shield warranty. So, when I called back to get it taken care of, I didn't get the same company and I had to pay another $75 for a different company to come back out and take a look at it. I haven't even heard anything if AHS approved for the contractor to fix whatever it was that needed to be fixed. But Piedmont Mechanical was absolutely incredible. The woman there tried to help me to get the same guys. She said, "We weren't the ones that did the service the first time. Maybe if you call back, they might be able to put that same person that looked at it on it." But then, I was told the Thermal Air guys were too covered up from doing the AC check-ups. Then, I called Piedmont back and they said, "Most definitely, we'll be out there ASAP." They were really cool.

We had had an issue with the upstairs air conditioning unit. We flipped it over to heat and it heated fine. But when we flipped it back to air conditioning because it got really hot during the day, the unit wasn't blowing out cold air. It would only cool it down to about 75 degrees or so. The technicians that came out were very professional and they were wearing uniforms. They were nice too. They got inside of the unit and did a reset. It was some kind of an internal breaker. They flipped that breaker and it was fine until it got cold again. We ended up calling back within 30 days.
Our system doesn't automatically go to heat at night. If you want the heat on, you have to flip it from air conditioning to heat. When we flipped the unit, it had to go back to air conditioning again during the day. It had the same problem. The guys came back out and they said that the internal switch had gone bad. There were no issues as far as anything happening with the system. A tech said there was another switch associated with that same type of thing. They bypassed that switch and said that it was fine for them to do that because there was another switch. If it was needed then it would kick.
While they were there, we switched the unit to heat and switched it back to cool. It appeared to be fine while they were there. Both times that those guys came out, they were topnotch and they let me know what was going on. The repaired air conditioner keeps the upstairs cool and livable. The service was very helpful in the day-to-day functions of my home, especially my daughter who has a room upstairs.
When I first called to make the claim, I was a little concerned I was gonna have to talk to an automated system. But it really wasn't any issue at all once I dealt with it. I made the call about 9:00 when I got home that night. The following morning, we got a call from the air conditioner company and they were out that day. They were there by about 8:30 or 9:00 for the first incident. For the second incident, they were backed up because they started having more calls. It may have taken them two days or a day and a half to come out.

From start to finish, all the guys that came out were excellent. They were very knowledgeable. They knew exactly how to go through things. I would ask them questions about different things, and they were extremely helpful. With the last plumber that came out, I've never had anyone be so professional and handle so much. For one service charge, he did so much. I'm just blown away. He had to handle a faucet in the bathroom that was broken. He replaced it and it has not had any problems since then.
There was another issue with the sprayer in the kitchen sink where the two pipes weren't fit properly, and so there was a constant wear on the main point. That's why it ended up leaking. The same plumber ended up finding a leaf in one of the pipes. Then he told me about using cleaning vinegar and how the 30% cleaning vinegar is better than your typical vinegar. Having somebody come out and handle everything really helped my anxiety. I will never seek out another service from anyone before I go through American Home Shield first. I'm really blown away.

They're fair when the technician comes and gives their diagnosis. They say if it can be repaired or can be only changed for a whole appliance. They're good at that. I have had one time that I didn't like the appliance place that they picked to come and serve for the service call, and I told them about it.

American Home Shield always tells me what company it is that's gonna be contacting me. That company always tells me who the person is that’s coming to see me. They even let me know when they're en route to my house. The contractor for my recent claim was very professional. In my original assessment, we were going to do one type of line going out of the house from the hot water heater. But because of the way things were set up in the garage, they talked to me about the alarm system. So we went that route instead. They gave me an alternative which was a lot less work and was beneficial for both of us.
When I first moved here, I had a plumbing issue but it was outside my home. AHS sent somebody and I had to pay my part of the claim because a lot wasn't covered. Look over your policy well and make sure that it covers everything that you want it to cover. If you want to cover extra stuff, make sure it's in there.

Clear Flow was able to free up the clog and there was a small screw that was in the garbage disposal they freed up too. Everything was working after that. We got AHS when we bought the home in 2014. They're fine. The only issue I've had in the past with American Home Shield is that, occasionally, when I call to place a claim, the contractor that they contact me with doesn't call me. Then, a couple of days go by but they're supposed to contact me within 24 hours. If they haven't, then I contact them. So, it ends up being four days before I actually get somebody to reassess and get another contractor. I lose almost a week at that point. But in this case, Clear Flow responded within 24 hours like they said they were going to. So it wasn't an issue.

Recently, the hot and cold faucet handles were both sluggish. They're sticky and you couldn't move the one on the hot at all. The guy fixed the cold one three months earlier and then, a couple of weeks ago, they fixed the one on the right. It took almost a year to get it completed. They said they couldn't get the part for the faucet so when they left the box that they used for the cold water one, my husband found the part. He called them back and they came out and fixed it. American Home Shield waived the $75 because it was ridiculous. I appreciated that. The contractor did what they needed to do and they just couldn’t find the parts but we would not recommend them.
Sometimes, it's difficult to get through to AHS and to even make a claim. It's very time consuming and you're on hold. Sometimes, you have to set aside an hour to get ahold of someone to follow up on what's happening. It's not a slam dunk thing and it's cumbersome. The dispenser on my dishwasher is not opening anymore so I have to set the little pod on the top rack. But I'm going to wait until my bathtub gets fixed and then, I'm going to call AHS and ask them to come out for my dishwasher. The techs kept the window from 12:00 to 2:00 and they did even more than that. I am the owner of the unit but I do not live there. So the person who lives there works full time. I had permission to go over there and meet the repair people. I live about 10 minutes away and they were kind enough to give me a 20-minutes to a half hour call before that they were on their way so that I could go over and let them in.
I was very impressed with them. The heater would not turn off. Initially, they took a look at it. Then they noticed that there was something else that wasn't working when they went to light it and start it, and they replaced something else. Then the gas valve wasn't functioning. It was raining and it was snowing and the tech was up on the roof doing that repair work and he didn't say one word of complaint. They did a great job.
However, AHS is extraordinarily difficult to get ahold of. The few times that I have gotten through, the people I was speaking to were out of the country and they had strong accents. You can wait two hours in the line to get through to somebody. They are not responsive. The email they send for a repair where there has to be a replacement was confusing. They don't replace the item. They require you to replace it and send you a check.
They come up with a price for a particular model that would be a suitable replacement. However, for that item, it's out of stock here. If it was, it would be priced higher. So it leaves me with the choice of having to go shopping and look for a suitable replacement at the price that they've set. I don't like that. If they have a suitable replacement at a particular price, they should give me the option of letting them do the replacement. They can use that price and do the replacement. Instead, they give me an allowance and I have to go shopping for the replacement.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

We had a toilet stoppage and the plumber that they sent out did not have a snake. So he had to come back. The next plumber that did come out had a snake, but it wasn't a long enough one. They later determined that it was a 50-foot snake that they needed. So Budget Rooter came out three times and fixed the toilet. But within 15 minutes later, my tenant flushed the toilet and it was backed up. I tried to call and call and get them back. But they were making me go through the runaround and made me call. American Home Shield had to order another service call. Long story short, they didn't fix the problem and we still paid for that service call. The people at Budget Rooter were nice. But it was not professional how they handled it. They said the claim wasn't communicated properly but it said clogged toilet. The poor service guy said they didn't tell him he had to bring a 25-foot or 50-foot snake.
The plumber also took the toilet apart. When you take off the toilet, you have to put a new wax seal, but he said he didn't have one. Then he also asked my tenant if she had a screwdriver. She told him, "Aren't you a plumber?" He said, "Well, I can't find mine." When I called Budget Rooter, they said, "Well, it was the end of the day. So he was just a little agitated." I said, "Well, I understand that. But don't send somebody at the end of the day. Send them between 1:00 and 4:00." I can't be mad at the technicians, but it was like, "Oh, I don't have a snake. You have a clogged drain. Maybe you could use a plunger." It was like I should just do their own job if they don't.
American Home Shield dispatched the claim to another company called Advance Plumbing. So now we're having to pay for a second service call and we have to pay for a camera. I told Advance Plumbing to make sure they send a plumber that has a 25-foot or a 50-foot snake. I also told them when we do flush, the problem is someplace in the main drain. They said they give their employees 25, 50, 100 and 200-foot snakes and the equipment. That was what I wanted to hear. They send them with the whole kitchen sink to make sure that it's going to happen.
With the last service call, I dealt with Judieh Plumbing and they were really good. I had a shower that the water was leaking. The first time the technician came, he said the problem was a faulty shower valve. He said he just have to turn off the water from the homeowner's association. Then he took apart the shower handle and fixed it within 15 minutes. I'm so thankful that he knew what he was doing because he was spot on this and we got it fixed ASAP. So that was really good. One thing I like about American Home Shield is that they send a picture of the technician. They give you the estimated time that they're going to come. Then they call 15 minutes ahead of time. So they're really good about that.

If someone's purchasing an existing home or if they're buying it for the first time and they've lived in the home, they need to make sure that the warranty is going to cover pre-existing conditions. This is especially if somebody buys a house, and then they get the warranty on it, because a lot of them don't. Some people get frustrated with that, or they don't really realize that things aren't automatically covered. If it's a pre-existing problem, sometimes they don't cover it.
We’ve had good experience with American Home Shield for the most part. It’s usually easy to submit claims, but a couple of years ago, we had an issue with one of the contractors that American Home Shield sent out and it was a nightmare getting that situation resolved. An AC person came out because our AC unit was not working and we were told that we needed a part. The part was covered, but the contractor told American Home Shield that the part needed to be modified in order for them to install it into our AC system. It was the same part, so I don’t know why they would have to modify it. American Home Shield did not cover this particular work that the AC person was saying they needed.
We were told we had to pay it out of pocket and it was a big amount of money, enough for us to question it. Initially they told us it was for the part itself and then I went and looked online. That part was only $100 and they were charging us all this extra money. We also had to pay out of pocket for some Freon, which we knew, because that was already in our contract. Luckily, my husband was here that day and he happened to be standing there watching the guys put the part in. He said all they did was unscrew the old one that was defective and screwed in the new one. They didn't have to weld anything, make any kind of modifications or solder anything. They just popped it right in.
When I called American Home Shield, they said that since they did not cover it under their warranty, I had to deal directly with the AC people. That wasn't right. American Home Shield should have dealt with the contractor, not me. My whole stance was, I didn't hire this AC person and I didn't call them up and ask them to come to my house. American Home Shield sent them to me. The way I look at it is they’re an extension of American Home Shield, and if there's a problem, American Home Shield should remedy it. I shouldn't have to call the AC people who are not returning my phone calls.
American Home Shield needs to be an advocate for their customers and get those situations resolved. They need to hold their contractor's feet to the fire and say, “Hey, you have to make sure that you're charging our people honestly.” If a situation like that is identified to be true, those contractors need to be suspended for a while until they can get back into American Home Shield. AHS has to have standards for them. Those people were trying to scam us. Had my husband not been here, we would have been out 800 and something dollars and not known any different.
It took me two months before I finally got my money back from the AC people. They were hard to get ahold of. I would call, and they would say, “That person is not here. That person is at lunch. That person is not available.” I had to go through somebody who answered their phone and I could never talk to anyone. I never did. I had to threaten them with an attorney and report them to the Better Business Bureau. I told them, “Look, if I have to get another AC person out here to take photos and show that this part has not been modified in any way and that y'all just arbitrarily charged us, we're gonna get an attorney.”
I always tell people, “Hey, we've used American Home Shield for a long time, and we've been satisfied with them.” However, I'm very leery about recommending any home warranty service. I never do. There's a lot of home warranty services out there and I always tell people, “Do your research, ‘cause different companies have different things.”

We were with AHS for two years. The first year was OK because nothing was wrong in our home. The nightmare started in the second year. The pipe got clogged under the sink in the kitchen so it leaked. The service guy AHS sent said it was the problem of the Garbage Disposal and that he replaced it with a new one; we found out later that the replacement never happened - the old one is still there. The leaking problem came back the very next day. Since then we've contacted AHS many times. All AHS ever did was ask that the same service guy to come back and fix the problem, which never happened.
Also, don't expect AHS to cover big ticket items for you. Our water heater broke, and AHS only covered a tiny portion of the cost to replace it.

Thirty-somewhat years ago, when the family moved in this household, we were given American Home Shield. Always very pleased. In New Orleans at that time, there weren't a lot of warranty companies. It is my belief and my father's that it was we, us, and our. When we got into this program lately here, it is not we, us, and our. We feel like AHS left us holding the ball and they run out the game.
We called AHS about our refrigerator back in January. Our refrigerator stopped. They sent someone out. And when the person came out, they returned in February with a part. The refrigerator was still not functioning properly. They don't let me call anyone in. They send their technician out. I have no problem with that. I don't know anything about electronics. My dad is 94 years old and I'm closer to 70. We relied on AHS. I said, "It's still not working." And he said, "Oh, I don't know. That's another problem." I said, "We're having the same issue." The guy called AHS and said he had to order a part. They used the excuse of COVID. Nothing was resolved. I was very frustrated again.
I tried to fill out some things and the website was not very friendly. I could not get in there when I wanted to. I am so pro-AHS corporate office but I want it escalated. Let me make that request because I cannot believe a company of this nature would allow things of this nature to go on. I felt very foolish for tolerating it. A refrigerator, like I told them, is a very essential unit. We have diabetics in here. We also have high blood pressure. The thing with the diabetic medicine, we get at $3,000. Can't afford for the refrigerator to go out. We are living now on a bag of ice and a cooler. No one has to do that. But I said, "Okay. They're gonna come. They're gonna come."
They use COVID as an excuse. And I say as an excuse because, by this year, things have started lightening up. People knew how to come in your home and service. Now they responded quickly. But when the guy came, he said, "Okay." I said, "But it's still hot. The refrigerator isn't working." And he said, "Oh, that's another problem." I said, "Well, what is the problem? 'Cause we still have a broken refrigerator." So, he called in and he said he had the order the part. It took a time for it to come back.
The people were supposed to come back but no one ever came back again. They came back once to say what the part was. AHS told me that they were waiting for the part to come in. I said, "Okay. A month is a long time to do without a refrigerator, but okay." I buy the COVID thing and that they were waiting. At first, I thought it was the company that they sent out that did it. 17th came, no part. I said, "Miss, what are you going to do? If you were getting it cheaper from someone else, is there a local agency you can get it from?" What we had to deal with was very difficult. And some medicines and foods going bad and we eating differently because we don't have a place to keep frozen foods or cool foods down.
The 17th passed and I was waiting. They told me they put in an escalation. Because I asked the question, "When does it become unreasonable? When do you repair or replace?" I called them escalation to request but in order to get it replaced, the company has to say they can't repair it. It's not repairable, that they’re gonna send them out.
I said, "Well, what do you want me to do? Company never did come back out yet. They haven’t heard from them that they cannot repair the machine." Then they told me, "We have to hear it from another person." "What? This is March. What are you saying? Can I call someone out, a reputable company? I don't know anyone. I would have to call them because the people you're sending, you said you don't take his word." "No, because the language was they cannot repair it." I said, "What does that mean? Specific language." “Not that the machine was not repairable, they cannot." I said, "Now, you're changing the goal post." I said, "When does AHS take responsibility to replace? It's repair or replace. When is AHS gonna step to the plate? This isn't anyone I called out. This is who you stand behind in sending into my home." So when they tell you that they say, "Well, we need a second person," they don't come out.
Every time I called the company, they said they had no order. I got several emails saying the company was supposed to come out. But no, they were not being sent out by AHS. AHS was always very nice and polite. "Let me help you with this. No problem, miss. I'm the one to help you with this." And they always escalated but nothing happened. Now, we're into March. So now, I'm thinking, "Okay, I'm being scammed." I could not wrap my mind around it. Why would they misuse customers that want to be with them? There are a lot other service companies that would do this. But I was so disappointed because this is one I had years ago, and never had that problem with years ago. Why would they do this?
I can't fix a screw on nothing. AHS was supposed to be my father's and my insurance, that they will come in and do what it is that need to be done. And I tend to think if they don't care, the companies that come in also don't care because they are who they deal with. The agency that they have working from does an excellent job of buffering them. When I say very respectable, “No problem. I’m going to help you.” Always. But it amounts to nothing. Five times, plus. It always escalated. And then, one time, they said they came out and no one answered. We only leave for doctor's appointments. They did not come out here.
I asked the company, "Listen, give me a list of the people you have 'cause I'm tired of you saying you're sending someone. You're pigeon dropping on me. Do I feel so stupid? Yes, I do. Do I want to work with you? I feel like I've gone the extent of it. And I ask you to please notify corporate, because you guys who's working for them, are doing an excellent job of buffering them, but it is horrible what you're doing to us as customers."
I called AHS the day before and they sent a plumber out for something. I said, "Please send someone reputable," because I could not fight. We needed a wax seal. That's what the tech ended up doing too. They sent the guy out, I called back because they wanted to leave. He said they tried to shimmy me additional money. "No, if I take the toilet up, you're gonna have to pay an extra $80." I said, "I paid the premium to AHS this morning, $100." They used to get it when they come out, but they get it ahead of time now. "Well, I can't do it."
He was here, he said he had to go. His company gave him another order. I said, "Please don't leave. Please don't, sir. Complete this." Because it's hard living in a house working off of one bathroom. And this was running water from the base of the toilet. I called AHS and they said they didn't have an order from them for that.
I called the company and said, "Please put that order in. Do you have a problem?" "No, ma'am." I said, "Because I've spoken to AHS. But you told your guy he needs to collect the $80." "That's our practice." I said, "Well AHS is waiting for you to call." "Miss, at this moment, we're trying to get the authorization for you." I said, "Please do. That would help me." I was very uncomfortable with all of that because that told me AHS was going to try to get that $80 from me and pigeon drop on me. But I took my last 20 and tipped them because I knew it wasn't that guy. And he did work until he thought he had it done. And they did what they had to do. He was almost apologetic.
We just need the service being done and done right. I hope it's right. If AHS endorses ConsumerAffairs to do this, "We make more money," then AHS and ConsumerAffairs should be out of business if they're in cahoots with doing that to the customer. I have been so overwhelmed with everything. I cannot take the time. But we're wasting our time, money, energy, and our trust in a company that is betraying me. I feel stupid.
The other day, I got so frustrated, I was almost crying. I said, "Why do I do this?" But I was like, "Maybe something wrong with me? What do I need to do at how many months since?" Whose fault is it? Is it mine? Now, AHS has to step up and take responsibility. Not me. Replace the broken refrigerator. Pick it up, send another one. I don't care what they do with it. But replace it or authorize me to replace it. It's too much hard work and too much loss. It's costing us more in the long run.
I know the people are just doing their job. But the bottom line is, if it's dollars for them, then maybe they don't care about me. It's a shame that we have suffered this long and I get angry about it. It has taken too much energy. I will fight AHS tooth and tail and get my son and nephew in here and pull this together because it's unfair. I used to talk about how wonderful they are. "It's worth it. It's worth it." They were that safety net if something happened because we're older, our funds are a lot less. But I feel like they're using me.

The service of AHS is good. They were a little faster in response and the communication's a lot better than it used to be. The only thing is the price. They go up every year on me. But it was really nice when the techs came out for the refrigerator. Even the representative that called to confirm, let me know and kept me updated when the guy went out there. She called me when they were on the way, she called me when he left and explained what was going on, "It's a bad water valve, we have to order it. But we have to submit this over to American Home Shield, let them know what the issue is and what we have to do." They got it approved pretty quickly. She sent it to them and they were back out about three days to replace the water valve. It's working fine now. This time, the process with AHS was better because now they were keeping us abreast of what is going on. I'm updated and then I'm called when it's time to come back out.

Recently, my ice maker's crusher was not working. American Home Shield's system told me who the likely contractor is that will come. I got an appointment right away. The needed part had to be ordered so the contractor gave me a status while we're waiting for the part. He came out even on a Saturday to put it in and get the job completed. We were very pleased with the service.
Sometimes, the issue I have is not one of the things I select on AHS's platform. I might say, “I'm having a problem with my stove or my refrigerator" but it was simply the ice crusher. So, I have to describe and my problem. Getting this warranty would depend on what items you have that you would want to repair. If you're someone who doesn't have a lot of appliances, then you might decide not to get it. But one thing I do like is the idea that when I put in my request, that's when AHS bills and I don't have to be concerned about changing any monies once the person comes out to do the work.

The lights in the refrigerator flashed off inside. I called American Home Shield and they sent a serviceman out from Sears. He double checked everything. He went a little above and beyond the call of duty. He checked the watts coming in to the refrigerator. But he’s a refrigerator man and he's not supposed to fix electrical problems. So we went ahead and hired him to do a maintenance on cleaning out from under the refrigerator. He was a very, very nice young man.
I called American Home Shield back and they sent an electrician out. At first, he went to the breaker box, and everything was fine there. So we started tracking it back and he found a loose connection. Electricity runs in series, from a light switch to a plug. The plug was good where the refrigerator plugged in. But the wire coming to it was loose. So he tightened that up. He also put a whole new switch into it. Everybody was first-class. We're very pleased with American Home Shield and we plan on keeping it.

American Home Shield gives me a good response and good service every time I call. They are number one in my book and I'll tell my friends to get them because it's good. There is no paperwork which is ideal for senior citizens. The heat or the air are the two major components that I would use the service for and most people they send out are professional and personable. Recently, the contractor addressed the AC issue perfectly.

A tech recently came out for a dishwasher again and he fixed it. He was professional and actually did something. AHS is a worthwhile service to have. I have recommended them and got a gift card for doing so. They find people to come out whereas I don't really know that many people here. However, I find the claims process kind of rough sometimes. It's gotten better, especially when you have a problem with a previous claim that didn't get done correctly, not have to go through the process and spend another $100 on something that wasn't done right. I find that kind of tedious. I used to try calling them in and that was a long process. I did it online a few times and that was easier but if you have a problem, you really can't deal with it. AHS could make it easier when a technician comes out and doesn't do a good job. I don't have 30 minutes to hold on the line and there's no way to do it otherwise.

I like that American Home Shield is timely with their responses, and that I can put in a request online without having to call and wait on the line. I had two issues recently. The ceiling fan in one of my guest rooms as well as the outlets in the family room were not working. The repair guy ended up fixing one of the outlets, which was the reason why the other outlets were not working. Those were repaired properly and then he replaced the ceiling fan. It works, however, I don't think it's secure, so we haven't been able to use it. When you turn the fan on, it's shaky and it's making a clicking sound. American Home Shield also had someone come out and fix my bath faucet upstairs and adjust my water heater downstairs. I have since referred them to several other individuals.

The claims process was always a bit difficult. I don't think any of their customer service people are in the United States. When you want to buy the product, they're in the United States. But when you call for service, it sounds like they're in India. So sometimes, having that language barrier can be a bit tough. But they told me who I was gonna get and that was fine. Then the contractor came out. Overall, American Home Shield is worth it.
The two times I've had to call American Home Shield, I got great contractors. They fixed the problem. The tech who I had to have my furnace redone helped us look at other things in the house where I asked him questions and he had no problems answering. But with the furnace, the water got built up in the electrical pump system, so he showed us how to empty that if that were ever to occur again. Then for our garbage disposal, the tech that came out fixed it in about two seconds. He showed us that if the problem ever happens again and we hear the buzzing, we can get an Allen wrench and just keep twisting.

During COVID, he was conscientious of wearing a mask.
American Home Shield has been mostly helpful. My washing machine was broken. If you wash the sheet, it will get stuck. The guys spent a long time working on it and the first time I washed the sheet again, it was stuck again. I waited a couple of weeks because I was afraid and I didn’t want to get it stuck and then not be able to do laundry. The guy had to order parts. We had claims for our washer and dryer. Technicians came out, assessed everything, and let us know what the issues were. The chief complaint was we knew that we needed to replace the units but American Home Shield wanted to fix the dryer. In the end, they were willing to let us go ahead and submit the claim and gave us funding towards both, which was great. As a matter of fact, we received checks yesterday for the washer and dryer. Technicians came out and made sure that everything was calibrated correctly on the washer and dryer. We also had a claim for our AC and we went ahead and had that replaced. American Home Shield also reimbursed us for a portion of that. Everything with both of the systems was done pretty timely. Within the course of a month, we had them all replaced. The experience was definitely a good one.
We are up for renewal next month. Even though we're getting to a point where we are replacing some of the appliances, we still are wanting to go ahead and stick with American Home Shield. Every time I needed to contact them, I put the request on the computer. They always say that the contact time is between 24 and 48 hours. I'm normally contacted within a matter of hours by contractors. For the AC unit, I put the request in on a Friday and we had someone come in on Sunday. We were really in a good position because the AC unit went down at the time before it really got warm here in Florida. We had had a few hot days where we had to turn it on. I'm glad we did because that's when we recognized that there was an issue.
We've already been recommending American Home Shield to people because of the speediness of getting things done. We understand we're coming up on being 15 years in our home which means all of our appliances for the most part are 14, 15 years old. We bought everything when we came into the house. Last year when we first went with American Home Shield, we had a couple of issues and we put the request in immediately. Someone came out. I've heard the horror stories of trying to get help and it takes days and days then the situation becomes dire. The customer ends up having to come straight out of pocket for everything. We didn't have to do that. Anything that we did have to pay was an overage of what American Hoem Shield couldn't cover but we don't expect everything to be covered.

I was happy to see that it worked out well. The faucet needed to be replaced and BN Plumbing was fantastic. The tech was timely and saw the problem. He had to pick up the part and he came back the next day and installed the new faucet. He saw an additional problem and fixed it all. It was all done within 24 hours so, I was very happy with it. I also put in a claim for my garage door and the guy came out right away after I did the request online. He needs to order a part so it's still in limbo right now.
I also had a claim with American Home Shield, which I was very dissatisfied with. My hot water heater went out and I found the process very frustrating and cumbersome. There were delays and the workmanship was shoddy. The contractor had to come back and it didn't pass the city inspection so they had to come back again. It was all-around a bad experience. The tech was very professional and nice. He called me right away when I put in the claim. We’ve only had to call American Home Shield twice in this timeframe. Both times have been for small items and they've done very well. I’m very happy with my experience. It was very professional and the online was easy to navigate.

AHS has been good, so far. A came for a routine checkup recently, and they said everything was all right. They had a few follow up, but after the tech left, the same night, the air conditioning upstairs stopped working. We had to turn it off and then we found a whole bunch of condensation. The pipes outside were covered in ice. He came back to fix it and he said there was a loose contact with the wire, and he was able to fix it. There was no charge. Also, we had a leak from the AC upstairs once. A pipe that goes outside was blocked, and the tech was able to blow it out and clean it.

Everything is going well with American Home Shield. We submitted a claim a few weeks ago for a leak in our house. Somebody came out and couldn't find where the leak was coming from. So, we got the person that inspected our house to come out and look again just to see if he could find anything. He said that it may be our toilet leaking. So, I was trying to get in touch with someone directly at American Home Shield to see if I could get them back out here. Other than that, the actual calling to get someone out here was super-easy.

Everything was smooth in submitting the claim but you have to get a little creative in trying to get back in to talk. When you want to try to go back in and find the status of the job, it was tricky, getting in there, because when you put your phone number in, it tells you your job has been canceled. That was canceled, but it was never updated. And getting to an actual person to talk to is the hard part.
The first one probably had something to do with me, because I wanted my pool company that I deal with to do my stuff. American Home Shield just sent someone out. They told me I could cancel that claim, and I did. They first told me I couldn't have it repaired. Because I had to have it repaired and the other company couldn't come out for a week and a half so I went ahead and got it done. I just sent the bill in and American Home Shield is supposed to pay me. Every time I called, they kept telling me two weeks. On the second claim, when Doshier came out, all that stuff went perfect. I never even had to call, I just turned the claim in. It was 10s all the way.

We called American Home Shield in just for one item which was for a toilet that had either a scratch or a crack in it. We just made a telephone call and said, "We had this problem." The plumber indicated that he thought it was a scratch. And because of that, AHS wouldn't pay any money, which is reasonable. And then while he was here, we also had him fix a drip on the sink. He was a personable fellow, courteous and did the job well. We've been happy for as much as we've had to use AHS. They've been responsive and have done what they said they would do. I give them two thumbs up.

When you put something in the microwave and turn it on, it would start arcing. The tech came and looked t it, took pictures and submitted the claim. Once it was approved, American Home Shield sent me a link and I could choose what microwaves I wanted. If I choose a different microwave that's more expensive, I would have to pay the difference and it showed me all that with a breakdown. AHS is convenient, easy and professional because it was all done with email. They gave me options. It wasn't just the one thing. If you want to pay more, they gave you that option too.

There was a problem with our hot water recirculating pump that started the whole business and that still hasn't been addressed. It has been going on for several months and the last time I talked to American Home Shield, they said they were gonna look into it and get back to me. But I never heard anything back. I need to call them again. But the business with Currie Drilling was great. They came out and knew exactly what the problem was. They got it taken care of and got us back with good water pressure. I'm happy with that as well as with AHS. We've had good luck with them. We had a couple of appliances that went out and they were all taken care of.

I had a call regarding my refrigerator and the company that picked up my call came. The technician just looked and said that they couldn't fix it because these product items are no longer made anymore for this type of refrigerator. He didn't look at anything. Then he said that he would put in the report today and at the end of the day, we should have an answer. So, I waited and waited till the next day.
The report was not specific, so it was pending for about a week and a half because the guy that came and looked didn't modify the report to allow American Home Shield to approve my service. Luckily, it was just the ice maker. The AHS reps didn't make it easy to speak to management. I kept going through a bunch of representatives and they wouldn't give the management’s information to me. I wanted to complain about the wait on that ‘cause they said everything should be resolved within the 48 hours. But it had been over 48 hours and it was all because of a guy that didn’t do a report right. I wanted American Home Shield to send another company out. So eventually, they did and then it was resolved that fast.

The freezer part of my double door refrigerator stopped working and two days after that, the refrigerator part stopped working as well. Home Shield sent someone from Sears out and they checked it out. They said that I needed a compressor and that Home Shield will contact me whether they will replace the whole unit or repair it. I didn't hear anything and I had to call. They said they sent me an email but I didn't. Then, they had to check it twice because one person said they were going to replace the whole refrigerator and another said they were going to repair it. But they sent someone out and they repaired it. The person was very cordial and did a fantastic job. He also cleaned up after himself and left.

I'm still trying to deal with my claim to American Home Shield. I'm waiting for a call back from the supervisor. It's been a horrible experience. The first company that came out had no actual information about what was going on in their report, which caused it not to be covered by AHS. The issue was that it wasn't normal wear and tear, which is no way possible that it could be. Plus, the unit is 17 years old. It's out of reach. It can't be tampered with. So, how it's not normal wear and tear is beyond me.
The second company that AHS sent out when we requested a second opinion came out and did confirm that it is normal wear and tear. But there was something else that they put in the report with it not being attached to a septic tank, which is totally not true. I don't have public sewage running through my house. I am on a septic tank. The person never even asked whether I was or not, but he put that in the report. So now, I'm dealing with having to have AHS send someone else out. I would need to pay for another contractor to come out and do a third opinion, whereas the two people that they sent out didn't do their job properly.
Why should I have to come out of pocket for something that was not my fault? It only took questions to be asked in order for either company to have done the proper report. Both companies failed to do what it was that they needed to do to get the correct information in order to submit claims. This year has been, by far, the worst year that I've had with AHS. I'm currently looking for another company because I've had too many issues here recently with dealing with them. You should look somewhere else, too.

I called American Home Shield when I had an air conditioning issue and it went through the dial-up. Then they had someone came out the next day. The tech was great. He was very fast and efficient. I gave him the information that I thought was necessary. He followed up on it. As usual, the issue was just low coolant. So he put in a couple pounds of coolant and we were good to go. I've used American Home Shield mostly for the AC, and then for plumbing, our fridge, and the gas pipe. They were all fairly efficient. It seems to be the same problem on and on now with the AC. But it's cheaper to replace a couple pounds of coolant than to replace an entire system.
