Everything went good. The tech gave me a couple of recommendations as far as changing the filter more often than I had been doing. He pointed out a couple of things to me. It was still in working order but had a little age on it. There was nothing that needed to be addressed at the time.

The techs that came out for our water heater did a good job. They were fine. But they definitely charged some additional fees that weren't really necessary. I ended up paying the service call for them to come out and then they charged me a $298 fitting fee. They didn't bring me a new stand. It was just on the existing stand. But it's been fine since they came out. Everything is working now. AHS is worth it.

J&J has been out here on three separate occasions. We have been absolutely satisfied with all three of the techs that have been out here and worked at the property. All three of the individuals were professional. They showed up at the beginning of their window and they had the necessary equipment on the truck to fix the problem. If I combined over the three visits, they were on property for an hour. The last tech that was out here killed some mama scorpions for me, so I'm good with all of them. This is the second home that I've had American Home Shield on and I'm very happy with them. I've never had a claim denied. I've never had an issue with payment or with the service. It's always been timely.

The techs did the lock replacement on all my doors. They replaced the deadbolts and key locks as well. All the locks work. However, I called AHS for four different things and I've had very different experiences every time. There was one contractor I would definitely not recommend to anybody at all.

We had our heating and our AC spring cleaning check the year before and AHS sent a company out of St. Louis called Budget. They actually sabotaged my system so that the R134a Freon that's getting so hard to find now, as I have an older system, had to have leaked out. They told me all the pressures were good when they were there, then within two days, my AC turned hot. AHS sent out Freedom Heating and Cooling. They checked it and they said that the system didn't have any pressure and Freon in it. I told them that Budget came two days before and they said it was fine. Freedom said that it was not the first time they've heard that after following up behind that company on another call. So, I've put a note on our file with AHS that Budget is not allowed anywhere on my property. But they didn't put it in there permanently.
Last year, when they first scheduled the spring cleaning check, they scheduled Budget. I called and told them about the note. Besides that, it didn't make sense or money-wise to send somebody all the way from St. Louis when they have contractors right in the Washington-Union area. I told them to just send Freedom from then on because they're a veteran-owned, family-owned business, and they take care of people.
When they did that to me, they took care of it at no extra charge, and they filled it. The stuff's like 120 bucks a gallon and so it would have been like $700 to $800 charge to refill it completely. American Home Shield only pays for the first 1 or 2 liters or gallons, and then after that, it's the homeowner's responsibility. So, they did it for nothing. I really like the owner, Chad, and his dad. They're great people. Recently, when we had our usual, normal spring cleaning and maintenance, Freedom Heating and Cooling also came and found that a capacitor was faulty when they tested it. They had one, then they came, got the work order especially for that, and then they came back and put it in later that afternoon.
We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you. Thank you for sharing your recent experience with us regarding your AC request. Your malfunction will always be our priority. We look forward to our continued business together. Take Care.

The repair men that were sent were great. Professional. They assessed my unit and explained that it is working as efficiently as it can for the house having as many windows as it does. American Home Shield's follow-up could be improved, but other than that, they're relatively easier than most warranty companies. It's also easy to submit claims if you do it online.

We were having a leak in our master bathroom in the showerhead and EJ's came out and said that in order to fix it, they would have to take out the water heater, which is directly on the opposite wall. They were putting in an order to get approval to do that. It took four weeks that we didn't hear anything and we kept calling back and finally asked American Home Shield to assign someone else. EJ's group seemed very personable, but the guy was young and he didn't communicate very well what all needed to happen. The group that came out after that fixed it right away. But they didn't have to take out the water heater.
American Home Shield was fine. It's just when I called, they kept saying that they would have to contact EJ's first. So, that's part of the reason it got drawn out so long because they tried to connect with EJ's three times, when I finally said that I was going to just cancel American Home Shield because we weren't seeing the value out of some of the things that we had been putting in for. That particular showerhead had been leaking for quite some time. It was really creating a problem in terms of just adding to the water bill. In trying to get it resolved, we were trying to figure out do we have to redo our whole bathroom or what's going on. So, my husband was saying he didn't think he saw the value in it, we should drop it, especially if it's costing us more in the end than the benefit to having it. But in the end, when I finally was able to connect with somebody a couple of times, the last person was very proactive and would call me to give me updates on my case.
Depending on what you call for, you can get value out of the warranty. For example, there's something probably wrong with my air conditioning unit, because every year we have to call and get the Freon added, and it seems like a lot of Freon. I never had to do this at any of my old houses, even in my old houses that weren't comparable in size, it wasn't that often. We were having some problems with it before where it's very loud. But I keep getting told that there's really nothing wrong with it. I don't know if that means it's still serviceable and workable or there's really nothing wrong with it.

I called American Home Shield to see if my pool heater was covered. The gentleman that answered the phone said yes and set a schedule for a company to come. When the company came, they said that they don't work on pool heaters. He then called American Home Shield and they said that the pool heater was not covered under my policy. But when I initially called, I specifically said three times when I requested the inquiry about the pool heater that it was a pool heater and not a water heater. I called American Home Shield the day after and I was on the phone for 30 minutes. Whoever it was that put me on hold hung up on me and never came back online. It's been about a week that I spoke to someone and I haven't been reimbursed for my deductible. I want a refund on the other work order that I asked for.
I called again and I didn’t get an answer. I'm still waiting to hear back from American Home Shield. Other than this claim, I've been satisfied with my home warranty. Their claim process is easy and simple. I had a claim for my AC unit and that was fine. the only thing is American Home Shield should let their customers know what the policy is and what is covered under it.

Bob's a great asset to the company. I had a leak in the master bath in the shower, the stem that goes into the wall of the shower. Bob came out, knew exactly what it was, went out to the truck, got something and repaired it. He's excellent.

The last time that United Air Temp came out, the guy claimed that the leak was coming from cracks at the back of the shower because caulking was missing from there. However, when one's in the shower or anytime anybody's running water in the shower, water doesn't go back that far to the area that he pointed out where the leak is coming from. Now, if water is poured directly into those cracks, then perhaps it would come through. The first time, they cut holes in my ceiling and they couldn't find a leak.
This past Friday, AHS sent another company out, Circa Services. The guy was here for less than 10 minutes and he agreed with me that the water was coming from the drains, was leaking from the drain, and not from the area that he had described. He even ran water in the shower for two to three minutes and the water didn't even go back that far. So, he agreed with me that it's not coming from those cracks in the tile. It has to be coming from the shower pan or shower.
When he left that day, he said he was going to contact American Home Shield and see what he was going to do. He said AHS was not going to pay for him to tear out the shower and replace the pan and all that. I told him to find out what would be the next step from American Home Shield because if they at least fix the plumbing, then I'll pay for all the tile work and whatever else. Right now, I just want it to stop leaking. Since then, nobody ran in that bathroom, but it still leaks, and now it's still leaking from somewhere besides the shower.
Everybody who I talked to at Home Shield seemed to try to help for the most part. Whenever I've called, they seem to try to find a resolution. But sometimes, that resolution is like calling the same company back and saying, "They need to come back out and tell us whatever." Since they didn't tell AHS that the first time, how come they're gonna come back and do what they need to do the second time? They sent United out twice, and then the third time, they sent someone different, and I still don't have a resolution. The contractors that were sent out could care less.
I'd like some type of resolution in that if the client is not satisfied with the contractor they sent out, if the contractor is given the option of picking their own repair person, even if they have to pay the difference, would be awesome. I have a plumbing company that I used before I started using American Home Shield and they were great. They're just not one of their contractors. For the most part, Home Shield's been good, until this one situation.

The process was complicated and nothing was completed properly. The dishwasher was not working. A technician came, diagnosed it and said that he needed to replace this electronic part. He ordered the parts. When he put the replacement part, that created a second issue. They needed to order the part but never found it and decided to replace the entire unit. A different company came. I called American Home Shield and they said that there are other choices. I could find a local contractor that could replace or I could order through the home warranty. I decided to replace through the home warranty because it was kind of faster. They said that could take 8 business days or so. On the 2nd or 3rd business day, they called me that the technician wanted to schedule an appointment. We said okay and they said they were doing the time between noon and 4 PM. But they showed up at 6 PM and I was not there. They just dropped the item and went. We had to pay another technician to install it.
American Home Shield needs to be sued to punish them. They never do anything completely. They play a game with the technician. We pay $75 for the technician’s one minute of work. They find a way to have the $75 for no work. The money is already in their pocket. If a small thing is missing, they will say it’s not in compliance with the code. They just go with the $75 in their pocket all the time.

The motor died on my dishwasher and it stopped working. We had to select a different unit because the manufacturer didn't make ours anymore. When the repair company came out to replace the dishwasher, it was slate, instead of stainless steel. It was the wrong color. We tried to pick a dishwasher that was as close to our old one as possible. That didn't come in stainless steel, but that's 'cause of COVID. Everything was on backorder. The selection was a little limited. That's why we had to go out and find what we wanted, personally, but it was fine. We've definitely enjoyed American Home Shield's service quite a few times since we moved in, so I would highly recommend it.

American Home Shield sucks. I’ve had them for a long time and I had nine properties with them. Their service has become worse and worse. Their contractors are horrible. There are delays in getting repairs done and getting the reports back. So that's the reason why I cancelled them. They also just deny everything. They're not consumer-directed. They're only about contracting. They don't have contractors that are good. They don't have a timely turnaround. They don't really listen to the customer or allow for you to upgrade or do an appeal of a denial. When you ask for people to call you, they say they’re not gonna call you back or there's never a manager back. Their standard answer is “24 to 48 hours, someone will get back to you.” But they never do. For my last problem, I had to call about eight times. They won’t cover anything and they do everything not to cover it. It’s not worth it.

Our washing machine was not cycling correctly and the person came out and told us that a sensor needed to be replaced and replaced it. We've had American Home Shield a year and we've had to do a couple of claims. One claim took a lot longer but we were able to call and they were able to get it sorted out for us. So, overall, we've been happy. The only thing that is a little confusing is waiting for approvals for parts. They should find some way to give a timelier status update for that.

The PVC piping had come loose from our bathtub and flooded our basement. We were without water to that area for about 3 days because American Home Shield couldn't get a contractor out for 3 days. Most of the time, it's been pretty positive with American Home Shield. It's been a day or so to get someone out. But in that instance, I was a little unhappy because they said they didn't have a secondary contractor that they could assign to come out and look at it. They apparently are fixed on one contactor and that's the only one they're using in the St. Louis area. But we didn't have any issues with the plumber when he came out. He did the job correctly and we didn't have any more leaks after that.
We did have them out one time for a water heater issue. We were told that the water heater couldn't be replaced once it was leaking. It's still an ongoing issue where the water heater heats water for some of the day, that if you take a shower and you go out later to try and take an additional bath or shower, you get cold water. We were told by the plumber that we would have to go out and buy a new water heater. That'd be our expense. American Home Shield wouldn't cover it unless it was leaking into the basement or flooding the basement before they could replace. Other than that, American Home Shield has been okay for minor things. They had a special for $75 to come out and do a pre-season cleaning for the air conditioner and we took advantage of that. To get our air conditioner prepped for the summer was a good service. When we first moved in, it was also a good service to have the key locksmith come out and rekey the locks for the home.

I requested service when American Home Shield was running a special for air conditioning check-up. When the guy got out here, he said the Freon was leaking. So he didn't do anything and then came back the next day. The guy charged me for Freon, which was 80 bucks cash if I paid cash. So I paid him the cash. It was a break for me. But I didn't think I would have to pay another $100 service fee. I thought I paid when the tech came the first day for it. But everything was taken care of and the air conditioner works fine right now.

When my AC was on, it was making a big racket and it was not blowing out cool air. My wife put in a claim on the computer, put in what the issue was, and paid it. American Home Shield then came back and told us what company they were gonna send and gave their phone number. They said the company would call us but I always take the initiative so I called them. Technicians were able to come the next day, which was shocking because usually, you got to wait for these things. The two technicians were very polite and they brought a mask. They took care of business and the AC is good now. This was a positive experience. My only issue with American Home Shield is sometimes it's very taxing when you're calling a call center in India and nobody understands you. It's just that people read from a script. When to get to a supervisor, it takes you going through 10 different people.

The dishwasher or dryer stopped working. When we pushed the button to start, nothing happened. The only thing that came on was the light. I got online and told what it was. AHS said they were going to list from the list of different people, and I actually called the one that they actually selected. They said that they were gonna call me. The tech was able to get out that same day, so it was excellent. I don't plan for the appliances to go out. But when they do, having the warranty is convenient to a point where they find the servicer as well as the fact that I don't pay those outlandish fees especially sometimes it's an emergency. When doing it within 24 hours, then oftentimes, there's an additional fee for emergency. With paying the amount every month, and then, only having a deductible quote is definitely a game changer.

If I have a problem, they get out here quick and fix it for me. I've had problems several times during the years I've been with AHS but I maintain it more for the air conditioner. We had an awesome time with them, which was why when we left for another company, we came back. I usually prefer to talk to people when submitting a claim, which is why I usually do phone. Because online, I never know what's gonna happen. I like that we get a response within 24 or 48 hours as they said we would and not three weeks later. When they say they cover something, they do and it’s what it should be. It's not half of it if you do the whole thing. We got eight people in this house and with COVID, it's harder to get ahold of people but to take a whole month to get somebody here is ridiculous. I have been waiting for a technician to fix my icemaker since July 2020????!! Three contractors came to our house to fix the ice-maker and have yet to be fixed. Almost an year 1y without this issued to be resolved. The last one, Scott’s heating and plumbing came in February 2021 supposedly he told us it was fixed. It worked for less than 30 days.
I called AHS they told me that they would have Mr Scott come over and fix it. Unfortunately, that never happened since he had yet to show up to finish the job!! I’ve called their Scott’s, in addition to AHS every other day, spoken to thousands of customer service reps in the Philippines ???? who have promised that a supervisor for the Customer Relations Department as well as a supervisor for the Escalation Department would contact me within 24, in addition I would receive an email relating how AHS would resolve this issue, have yet to get either!! AHS has become a horrible runaround wannabe warranty company!!
For one year I have tried to speak with corporate and no success!! WTH???? Btw, so much for transparency on their Facebook page, not one post from other upset customers can be read. I have private messaged, but nobody has read it and responded!! After posting my complaint immediately at the bottom of my post there is a small print saying; “Most Relevant is selected, so some comments may have been filtered out.” How about that??? Boycott AHS

Our AC wasn't working, then it was working, and then it wouldn't turn off. I called and I really liked the company that came. On the other hand, I had an issue last year. I had a follow-up claim to an AC because I had a company that came out and they couldn't fix it. They sent me this other company. The guy didn't even look at the AC and told me that American Home Shield would not fix it anyway and for me just to call them on my own and get a new AC unit. I also got charged another 100 when it was supposed to just be a follow-up.
I found out later I should have not paid double. Because I wasn't aware of that until I called for this, AHS told me, "No, on a follow-up, you don't pay." If the first company couldn't fix it, I should have not paid the second company, but I did. I know it's in the contract, but it should be posted somewhere on a follow-up you don't have to re-submit a claim. 'Cause then, it became a headache. When I called the agent, the first agent said he wasn't able to fix it. I was told to go back online and resubmit. This last time I called, they said, "No, they should have not done that." I was just following the instructions though.

They scheduled someone as soon as possible, but when the technician came, he said he couldn't find any problem. He said air comes from the freezer, so the freezer is working. He also took the temperature and said everything was fine. He told me to wait until our refrigerator breaks again and then call. So, I was like, "Oh my God." Something has to be wrong. Now, my refrigerator stopped working again. I wasn't able to have this fixed when it was supposed to and here, I'm running late to work because I have to take everything out from the refrigerator. I put a service call again for today and they're not coming until tomorrow.
The freezer was not working, but now, it's working again. Right now, the refrigerator is not working. It goes on and off. I can't live like that. I have two roommates here in my house and it's causing food loss. The techs have to know what causes that and they should be able to fix any issues right there. On the other hand, the first time I called AHS, they were very good with my microwave. They replaced my appliance. All in all, I would recommend people to use the service because it's very valuable when you have an appliance that doesn't work. They not only come and fix it, they repair it and they don't charge you anything else. It's just the service fee, which in my case is $100. It works for me, so I'm happy with the services. We bought our house in January and not only have the appliances not worked even though we had an inspection but there is also a leaking faucet or a crack in our sink upstairs, which has done some damage. We had somebody come out here two days ago. I have no clue when they're coming back, no clue if the company approved the claim, and no clue what to do with the fact that there is secondary damage to floors and walls and ceiling. That's our issue with American Home Shield. We don't get feedback from the company about the claim.
One contractor we had was Eagle Eye. They had the same man come out twice. He is super nice and great. There was also a guy who came out for our sink. The technicians all do the same thing and they say, “Okay, this is what it is. I have to go back and file this with the home warranty company and put in for a replacement or a change. It's probably going to be a little bit of time." We don't hear from anybody again until it's time for somebody else to show back up. I don't want to deal with the contractor. Otherwise, I would have hired the contractor myself. The warranty company should have notes in their file that the claim was submitted. They should tell us what the status of the claim is and that someone would be back out.
Once that has been reassigned to the repair company or appliance company can then call and tell us, “We plan on being out there Tuesday or Thursday.” But it seems like we deal more with the contractors than we do with the home warranty. We don't even know if something is covered or if it's going to be an issue until somebody calls us back and says, “Okay, I'll be back to replace it. I’m coming tomorrow.”
Overall, we're not very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. We had a claim for the vent on our gas range that would not turn off and the technicians replaced the knob. The only thing is it's inconvenient to have to file a claim then have to worry about chasing it down. We wanted to have somebody come out here at the same time to fix two issues that we had and American Home Shield advised us that we were gonna have to pay $75 each time even though it's the same person from the same company. That part can be frustrating.
We also filed a claim for our pool. It happened to coincide with the timing of the freeze here. A service guy came out and he started looking at it. He said we had all these issues with the pool. I was aware that we would probably need to replace the heater but I was not aware of the other stuff. I thought that would be covered by the home warranty. The service guy said he would submit it to American Home Shield but doubted if they were gonna pay anything. In that regard, why would I pay anything extra to have a pool covered if nothing is ever going to be covered?
The most recent claim we had was for our microwave that doesn't heat. We've been without a microwave for a week. We scheduled it last Friday. That aside, everything else has been fairly quick to get at least a call back from a contractor saying they will try to come out here at a certain point in time or a certain day. That’s a benefit of having the home warranty.
In this day and age, it's nice to be able to go online to book your claims because nobody has time to sit on the phone waiting to initiate a claim. American Home Shield is fairly quick to get something set up. Having somebody initially come out here hasn't taken too long. Hopefully, in the case of an AC, that will be even quicker if that’s to happen to us in Texas. An area of improvement is for them to follow-up customer service when somebody puts in a claim.

We just had an issue with our hot water heater and it has been an absolute nightmare. The biggest issue was trying to get the individual who you get when you answer the phone. At first, I thought it was a language barrier but then it became more of does American Home Shield not actually follow up on their providers? Because when I looked at this particular provider’s website, I saw multiple people with the same issue we had.
The people who came for our hot water heater never looked at any of the internal components. The tech took a few pictures and he came out of where the water heater was. He then said, “You need a hot water heater.” I asked how he could possibly know that as he didn't do anything. He then said, "That's what you have insurance for". I told him “No. Actually, that's not what I have insurance for. It’s the replacement of a perfectly good appliance that may be having some minor issues.” He replied saying he was gonna go and order me a new heater. I then said that if we truly needed a new hot water heater, I’m all about it. But to say we need one and not having done anything to it to make that determination, is charging AHS for an unnecessary service. Just like the other reviews that were on their website, the guy did the same thing because I challenged him. He wrote in his report that our hot water heater was not up to code in city compliance. When the thing is not up to code, American Home Shield denies the claim. So, they would be trying to deny my claim based on some erroneous information.
A new plumber came yesterday and the first thing he said was, “This is not out of compliance by any means.” He checked all the components and said that the issue could be a faulty thermostat which was why it kept going in and out. He said that he was gonna call AHS to get an approval. He also said that we were gonna order just the part or component 'cause our hot water heater was perfectly fine and there was no reason to get a new one. In order to get a new 70-gallon water heater like ours, he said AHS would be looking at about $2,500. I told him to make sure AHS would know all of those things so that they would think that I'm not the one crazy. I was just trying to save them money.
Still, the customer service reps I talked to said they were sorry for the inconvenience. An inconvenience is when my dishwasher isn't working. Not having hot water for two weeks, goes a little past the "I'm sorry for the inconvenience." Thank God we have neighbors where we have been able to go to use their showers because this was a total disaster. If this had been my only experience with American Home Shield, I would’ve terminated this warranty in a hot minute.
But the tech who came for our washing machine was very professional. He diagnosed the part and said "I've seen this. It's a common thing with this particular washer.” He ordered it and came back a week later and replaced it. Everything has been working fine since then.

But I rarely get calls on the same time when they said I would get them. So it's usually within a day or so after. Also, the contractor was slow. From the time I reported the issue until it got repaired was three weeks because they had to order a part. But the work is completed and I haven't had any issues since then. I've always had good experiences with AHS.

It was fine till last week when I called. It did it again. The motor would be running, but no air was coming out of the vent. It was Sunday. I wanted to report it because I know it was over the 30 days, but it was the same situation. They wanted to charge me again and I kept telling the rep, "It can't be that you're charging me again because it's the same situation."
He finally agreed to call Walker and he spoke to him on the phone. They're supposed to come this week. They're very courteous and are here to please. The gentleman that came first was very pleasant and nice. The second time they came in, it was two other workers and also a young gentleman who was very nice, and said, "Give us a call if you have any problems." I highly recommend AHS. That company to this day refuses to tell me exactly how much they put in my air conditioning unit. So I tried to cancel, canceling with this company is almost impossible. You reach someone overseas and all they do is bounce you around to different departments telling you they’re sending you to retention. There is no retention department. They just keep delaying and bouncing you around and wasting your time. Just freeze your credit card or bar them from charging your credit card and cancel!
Any company that makes it this hard to cancel services with them is shady. No company should make it impossible to cancel. They have no email address which provides documentation of canceling. They make you call the phone number. You called the phone number and all you do is get bounced around so you can never cancel.

I have two recent claims with American Home Shield. One was good and one was not good. My most recent one was when I needed to have the thermostat replaced. It wasn't doing anything anymore but turning on the fan and wouldn't show indoor temperature. The tech replaced it and got it working. We checked to make sure the AC was working because I hadn't even turned it on yet. So, that was a good experience. My one prior to that was the water heater burst. Also, with that, I did a second thing for plumbing that was to have a guest bathroom fixtures replaced because they were so difficult to turn that you could barely get them to move.
We've had a lot of things over the years that have been done well. The water heater deal, I just had a local plumber come out and do it because it had gotten so ridiculously pricey and more expensive than my local plumber charged me, and I was like, "I already paid my $75 fee." So, I was a little upset with that whole deal because the tech insisted he needed a permit and it's an outdoor closet. It's not even indoor and it has a drain right to the exterior sewer line. It was a little frustrating. Then, they never replaced the bathroom faucet. So, I paid my $75, ended up using my own plumber, and never got anything done through them.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

5/18/2021. I am concerned that a major US company American Home Shield is committing fraud against Americans on a recurrent monthly basis. Thank you for taking the time to read my brief factum and complaint below. Factum: 3/2020: I initiated a home warranty contract with American Home Shield (AHS). 1/2021: I called AHS to cancel my home warranty contract effective at the time of renewal in March 2021.
5/17/2021: On or about 5/17/2021, I noted continued monthly charges on my Chase credit card from AHS. I immediately contacted AHS over the phone at their number 1-888-223-3763 to cancel the contract and receive a refund for amounts charged since March 2021. The agent said that he was sorry about the confusion and said that he would transfer me to "customer retention" to process the refund. The customer retention agent then said that she could refund only part of the amount charged which was about $60. She also charged me an administrative fee. She stated that I would have been notified monthly by email and text about the charges and had ample time to cancel them over the last 3 months. Of note, the call center is located in the Philippines.
While I was on the phone with her, I was signed in to my AHS account online at ahs.com and noticed that my contact information was incorrect. What made it highly suspicious was the manner in which these changes were made. My email was changed from "**@gmail.com" to "**@gmail.com" and my phone number was changed from ** to **. These were minor changes but were clearly made intentionally by an employee or agent of AHS.
An employee or agent at American Home Shield (AHS) intentionally changed my email and phone number on my AHS account so that I would not receive automatic email, text or phone notifications and other communication from the company. This was done in an attempt to defraud me by allowing the company to continue billing me for several months after I canceled the contract with AHS. In addition, the monthly rate of $54 was increased to $77 unbeknownst to me since I was not receiving any notifications from AHS.
I notified the agent about this fraud and told her that I will be filing a report with the authorities about their company and fraudulent business practices. In addition, I asked to speak to a manager and to file a complaint, but was told that there was no manager available but one would call me back. I called back on 5/18/2021 and was told the same thing. The agent, James with ID "MPONIO" said that they have no official email that I could use to file an official complaint and that a supervisor would call me back in 24-48 hours.
I do not know whether this fraud is being perpetrated by a few rogue agents who are acting out of greed for commissions or whether higher management is involved with this. However, it is clear that agents of this company AHS are defrauding several thousands of Americans on a recurrent basis. I have attached a screenshot of the fraudulent account changes. It is my hope that the FTC investigates this company thoroughly and prosecutes their directors and managers to the fullest extent of the law.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service & I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for sharing your feedback. Have a great week.

I needed to talk to them when I was getting replacements and I had to wait and wait. Their customer service isn't good. Also, my experience with Cooper Appliances who came out for the refrigerator was not very good. Our refrigerator appeared to be leaking and was making a weird, really loud noise. The tech came and pulled the refrigerator out. He looked at the back of the refrigerator and he said the fan needed to be replaced. He said they would have to order the part and they would get back to me.
I asked him to leave the refrigerator pulled out because I wanted to clean behind it. When I went behind it, there was a hole in the back of the refrigerator where it looked like the ice machine had rotted through. Also, there was ice on the back of the refrigerator. That's what was leaking. And we were getting this weird mark in front of the refrigerator. I called Cooper and asked them to send the tech right back. But he had already gone off on to another call so I took a picture of it and sent it to them. It turned out we needed a new refrigerator. We got a replacement refrigerator but they were not real professional and they didn't seem to know what they were doing.
We had another appliance company, GE, and they were really good. They came out for a washer problem. We also had Hers & His Plumbing for a clogged drain and a leaky faucet and they also did a great job. American Home Shield is not inexpensive to maintain but if you need it in a big way if a major appliance goes out, it does kind of pay for itself. However, it was 75 bucks to have a contractor do an air conditioning tune-up for the summer. Some guy came out and he was here not even 10 minutes. He came down off the roof and said, “Everything's fine. We don’t need to do anything at all.” When I came in later, I noticed that the thermostat in the house where you control the air conditioning has an outside temperature reading that was 76 degrees. I thought that was weird. It was warmer. It stayed at 76 degrees for 5 days. When I called and asked if the guy could come back out and double check, they said I had to go through American Home Shield. I went through that process and waited but never heard back from anybody. I called back about 3 or 4 days later. Once again, a guy said they'd call me soon about it but nobody ever called me.
In the interim, the unit seems to have fixed itself somehow that’s why I kind of dropped the whole thing. But as far as customer experience, it was not positive. There was no response whatsoever. I had to make at least 3 phone calls on this particular thing. There were two follow up phone calls because nobody ever got back to me. They never followed through on it at all. I've submitted many claims with American Home Shield over the years. They've generally been pretty responsive. There was another time where a contractor had to come back out and look at something. I rejected that I wanted to use that vendor because there were nothing but negative comments. AHS found a different vendor for me and the repair guy came out quickly and promptly, and it went very smoothly. He tested out the old unit and could tell that it wasn't functional at all. We've been with American Home Shield for five years or so and we had a claim a couple of years ago as well. Our house is now 17 years old and the potential of having some issues is there. On the other hand, I had another home and when I bought it, it came with that policy. Their premiums kept creeping up, which I thought was awful. The problem is I still owe, so I tried to pay it online but it was kicking back, saying, “No.” But that was my only issue with it.
We've really enjoyed AHS. We've had it for the last three years on our home and it's worth the $45 a month. We really benefited from AHS. We used it on multiple occasions and used it for a lot of different things. Anything that went out, we were able to call, get a service technician out and get it fixed very quickly. We've had some problems with one of the service techs though. He was just really busy. He couldn't figure out what the problem was. He had to come back. The microwave was broken before Thanksgiving and all the way till the middle of January. But we had our washing machine and air conditioning unit fixed. AHS was definitely worth it because of how much we could just always depend on it to call and have somebody fix it. AHS was always perfect for us.

Originally I reviewed American home shield quite highly. However, I was contacted before the claim was finished to submit a review to the Consumer Affairs department. Explained to the gentleman who was taking my review that the claim had not been completed also. Here's an update... American Home Shield has still not replaced my Oven/microwave unit with the exact item, and they were offering us cash out for far less than what I could purchase it for in stores, because they said that the manufacturer doesn't have it... The unit we have stainless steel, it was installed when our home was built in 2005. Our the cabinets were custom made to fit the unit. When American home shield said they would replace it with the exact item, they told us that they could not find the same model number. They were offering us $1,250.48 cash so we could find it else where.
Well, problem is, that unit doesn't sell for less than $3,999.00. So we would come out of pocket A LOT to replace the unit. Their reasoning is, they deal directly with the manufacturers and they will only give us what the manufacturer pricing, but they were also not going to give us the stainless steel model, they were replacing our stainless steel model (which matches all the home appliances) with the black model, which in my opinion voids the agreement... Now I'm trying to contact the manufacturer to find out what they have and IF they even HAVE my model anymore. I'm not a happy camper.

So for the most part, I've been okay with them, but I had a couple of vendors that I wasn't overly excited about. But so far, the experience I've had with AHS has been good.

When my air wasn't functioning properly, the rep was professional, polite, informative. He was on time and let met me know ahead of time if he was 5 or 10 minutes out. He also took his time to explain things in a way that I could understand what happened and not with all that technological talk. It was a switch that went bad on it. On this last go-round, I didn't have an issue. It was overall great. Previously though, the tech worded in my chart that my faucet was broken with some force. He came in and he was in a rush. He made up in his mind that I got on top of the sink and broke the faucet and I just pulled it out the wall. That wasn't the case.
What I learned in that experience is American Home Shield can't always go solely on what the technician that they sent out is saying. Sometimes they need to listen to the customer. I went round and round with AHS a month, then finally, I got through to a rep on the phone that did some active listening and not just hearing me. When I explained to her that this faucet needed to be replaced, she helped me. AHS sent out another technician and he looked at it and was able to see right off that the faucet simply needed to be replaced. It wasn't anything that I did wrong. That was the only snag in all the years that I've been with American Home Shield and they were able to rectify the situation. Now they're back on track with me.

My dryer wasn't drying properly. I did one of those FaceTime checks where they looked and they thought it was a heating element. The serviceman was very courteous, knowledgeable, and friendly. When he actually came out, the problem wasn't the heating element. I needed a belt changed and I also needed to have my dryer vent cleaned. I went to a different contractor because American Shield doesn't cover the dryer vents. Then, the serviceman came back out and replaced the belt. They were awesome. I've been very happy with the overall claim process of AHS. I've used my warranty several times and overall it's been very good. The only issue I've had was with my air conditioner. That was just poor communication and that was resolved.

I had a claim to American Home Shield for a microwave turntable. It wasn't turning, which turned out to be just a simple part that needed to be replaced. I had another one for a waterline inside of a freezer. The water was no longer going to the ice maker, but what had happened was the water had frozen somewhere along inside the hose. The tech who came was knowledgeable. He looked at it, saw that a part needed to be done, and he came back a couple of days later with a part and it was good.
My story is a little different when I had the air conditioner pre-season treatment done. The service guy came out and tested everything. It was okay. At that point, we hadn't needed to use the air conditioner yet because it was pre-season. But he left something unplugged. The AC was blowing and everything was working, but it was not getting cold. So, weeks later, when we started using the air conditioner, we called them back and said, "Look, can you come back out here and fix this?" But too much time had passed. I should have called right away but I wasn't using the air conditioner right away because it was pre-season. Now that it was season, it wasn't working. So, I had to pay another fee to have a different company come out, look around, find out that something was unplugged and plug it back in. Still, overall, I'm very happy with AHS.

Submitting a claim is easy. I just go online, select what’s wrong and my payment, and everything is saved. Also, AHS doesn't charge me until after the people come. There was a time when my house got flooded, my husband was laid off from work and I just had our youngest child. In the middle of all of that, our hot water heater went out. I called AHS and the techs checked the heater. That was almost $4,000 or $5,000 we were gonna have to pay, but American Home Shield replaced it.
Currently, my AC unit needs to be replaced but the contractor has just been repairing it. Every time we call AHS, they send someone out but they have to check and repair before replacing. Every time they come, they repair it and then it's not working. AHS should choose more professional-looking companies. Though they call ahead of time, the companies that check on things are mom-and-pop companies. They come in any kind of way and I don't know who they are unless they call me. They come in random vehicles too. If AHS calls Terminix instead, they come appropriately and the techs are in uniform. It's just me and my daughter in here and I'm cautious about who I allow in my home.

The dryer was making a squeak and the first guy who came took everything apart and put it all back together. He put a new part in and it was okay. Then, all of a sudden, it started to squeak again. So, I called American Home Shield back. This poor man came out and the thing would not squeak. When the drum rolled around, it would not make a noise and he didn’t know what to tell so he suggested that the next time it started squeaking, we could record it. The problem is, I don't know how to record on my phone something like that and my daughter hadn't been around. So right now, it's squeaking a little bit maybe once in a while and then goes away. As far as I'm concerned, Sears did what they could do and I'm happy with AHS. Whenever I call, they respond right away. I've suggested them to other people I know.

Sears came out and we showed them where the stovetop was. They asked us what was the problem going on and we explained to them that the lights were flickering on the stove and it wouldn't come on, it wouldn't stop flickering. We had to turn it off at the electrical box. They asked if we could go and turn it on. The technician took the top off and went into the wiring thing, and then said to us that a couple of things was wrong with it and they would have to order parts. He went on to say that they would be back in touch in x amount of time, which they did. They were extremely professional. Then, everything they said they would do, they did. We received emails within the time frame explaining what was going on, that the parts would be ordered.
Then, when the parts came in, they had given us an appointment for day x, and so they sent notices prior to coming that they would still be coming within this window. For the second appointment, the technician arrived, asked where the stove was again. They utilized really great COVID practices and they asked me where were the parts that had come into our house and I gave them the parts, which I had really waiting for them and the packaging on top of the stove.
The guy came in, began to try to repair the parts, but saw that there was something else major in addition that was majorly wrong. He said that he was going to contact American Home Shield and that American Home Shield would be in touch with us to let us know how they were going to proceed. The tech that AHS sent out didn't have the parts to replace two thermostats, but he went out there to the air conditioner and replaced the compressor. He said that it had more compression in it and that it would make my air conditioner work better. But it wasn't the same size as the original one. It was smaller and he had to put a tie on it when he put it in. I was concerned because I believe that when you change a part, you put back in the original part. Other than that, he didn't take that long to replace the compressor, then it was about a week later that he had what he needed for the two thermostats and he came back to replace them. Now, everything's working fine with the air conditioning and thermostat. It also seems like it is working much better than it was before.
I've had several other claims with AHS. I had a claim for a sink and when they sent somebody out there, they wouldn't replace both of the faucets. But if you replace one, you got to replace both of them. It also seems that the handle of the faucet they've put on there is starting to leak a little bit. But you got to make sure it's all the way down, so I think that's just on us not doing it properly. Sometimes AHS is a little difficult, too because they would charge me a couple of times, but they shouldn't. Then they would say that they would send the money back and I would get it back. Other than that, it's a pretty good program.

AHS gave me a new ice maker and it was very easy and fast. I'm just not happy with the people that they sent out. Initially, the washer people weren't going to come out for 10 days. I called AHS back and they were very receptive. They gave me to another company because I needed someone out right away. That contractor came twice. He said at first that I was putting too much soap in a washer that I've had for four years. I made him come back when I put no soap in it because the spinning cycle wasn't getting the water out. He said, "That's just how it is. Nothing's broken, everything's working." Clearly, something was off in the spin cycle because I've had my washer forever and I can't wash anything. The experience with the American Home Shield is long and tedious. They come at the end and they provide what they promise. However, you have to be on the phone for at least eight to nine hours with them and speak with four or five different representatives. I called and they sent Glyn’s Appliance, who was phenomenal. Then, AHS sent me an email. I called them up and told them that my machine was stackable. They only offered GE and I said that I have a Whirlpool washer on the bottom and a Whirlpool dryer on the top. So, I have them stacked. After a little bit of negotiation, she acquiesced and she said that it was not a problem. She was very nice at the end and she gave me the Whirlpool. After that, somebody called me and said that they would install my new machine.
When the driver got here, they couldn’t use the old chips and he wasn’t going to haul the old one away. It was ridiculous. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent me a gentleman by the name of Eddy from Appliance & Service Depot. I helped him take the machine down and he installed the new one, which was fine. But I had to haul it away. I am not happy with the service but I will keep AHS. I had three contracts with them and this is my fourth year. For repairs of washers, dryers, refrigerators and dishwashers, they’re good. But the people that they have who answer the phones read a script. It’s frustrating.

As far as being able to go online and file a claim, AHS made it easy for that. You have to pay upfront whether the issue is fixed or not, and they do that whole 30-day thing. I had to call American Home Shield three weeks ago for my washing machine and they fixed it. But prior to that, I had an issue with my dryer, and I paid them whatever it is that they charge. The guy came out and stayed all of five minutes and couldn't figure out what was wrong with the dryer. He told me if it happens in 30 days, to record it, and he would come back. The dryer didn't do it again until the 36th day, and now, AHS wants to charge me again. I want to keep them, but then I don't because it's not worth it paying $110 for something I could have probably paid 60 bucks for. So, my feelings are a little mixed.
The most recent issue was the washer. It's fixed. The dryer is acting up again, and I have not called AHS because I feel I'll be better off going to somebody else to look at it. Because I need somebody to take the time out to wait and see if it does what it was doing, or at least be willing to come out if it happens again without charging me a second time.
I had another issue before where they told us we abused our microwave. That was very irritating. How can you abuse a microwave? That's the first time I've ever heard of that. Because the microwave kept going out and the guy rolled in there. I keep my microwave immaculately clean, and I try to maintain it as much as possible. Whatever the manufacturer issues were, they refused to fix those. So then, I dropped them for a while and then I got them back only because as time goes on, appliances get old, and you don't want to have to keep calling somebody out to repair it. So, I went ahead and got the smallest package that they have. But it's crazy how I pay them every month, and then I only use them once every year and a half. I'm thinking about dropping them all together because I'd probably do better if I go through a different way of getting things fixed when they need to be fixed, just being that one time.

He proceeded to do an AC checkup on the AC to make sure that the Freon was perfect, and then he noticed that the line in the inside that throws the water out was dirty. So, he unclogged it. AHS is a great company. They've fixed my AC, washer, dryer and refrigerator. They're great when it comes to doing maintenance and things that are simple. I had my washer wasn't working, and then they also came out for my dishwasher. CD’s Appliances Repair is probably one of their best ones for appliances. Unfortunately, it takes a while with the parts. The lady over there in the CD’s Appliances Repair office would check up on the parts. She gave me a realistic estimate. I would call and she would check. She would provide feedback. They always picked up their phone. The last part for my dishwasher got put in. But there was a leak so they put in for me to get a replacement. So that has been already handled. Then the washer was fixed.
I was without a washer for over a month. So that was tough. But from my previous experience with A Plus Appliance, you can't even get them on the phone. You couldn't get a callback. It was about two years ago. I had to get a washer replacement, but it took almost three months. They won’t pick up their phone. I understand things take time but at least they should communicate.
American Home Shield approved my dishwasher replacement pretty quickly. But I was really disappointed when they emailed me the replacement options. The only option that they gave me where it would be at no cost to me was some dishwasher brand I didn’t even know. Two years ago when I had to get something replaced, they at least gave a finish option or a couple of companies. I have a whirlpool dishwasher, so at least let me get a Whirlpool, at a minimum. The option they gave me was some hot something. So I called them and the lady worked with me and she resubmitted it. She gave me a little bit more options.
American Home Shield was saying that it was an equal. But it's not because when I put in the model for what I have, what comes up on the internet is this other one. But the Whirlpool one that they had, which I would still have to pay $300, the size didn’t fit. So I didn't have a lot of options and then I was forced to pay that $100 difference to even get the finish I wanted. They also said that they wouldn't match brand for brand but they were gonna match color for color. But when I asked if I can get a stainless steel finish instead of black, they said that they didn't do that. So that part, they didn't do that in the past. I didn't like that. But I'm glad their rep worked with me and she did what she could.
Some things changed with American Home Shield where on a replacement like that, the options that they gave was something like crap until I called. But that was the thing, then I had to call, spend time on the phone. Then they gave me maybe one other option. When the rep redid the offer, I had a little bit more options. Where if I needed to get the stainless steel finish, instead of paying an extra $300, $400, there was that one option where I was able to get it for $100.

American Home Shield has a simple claim process. It's just sometimes there are some issues with trying to get the right person who can take care of an issue the first time. When there was no power to our dishwasher, we had an electrician come out. He said that he couldn't do anything because he couldn't move the dishwasher to get to where it's supposed to be. We tried to get a plumber to do it but the plumber said that that was not his specialty. I actually call American Home Shield and tell them the issue over the phone. That way, it's clearer to them. But maybe it's just the communication between them and the company that they send out. They should make sure that the people that they would be sending out understand the issue and that they would able to do the work.
A customer should also have an understanding of what's covered and what's not in the warranty. There are things where there had to be permits from the county or from the state that are out-of-pocket costs that are known about ahead of time. There were a couple of issues with our water heater where it wasn't clear how much out of pocket we were going to have to spend on it versus what was actually covered on our warranty. That aside, we also had a claim for our garbage disposal that wasn't working and a tech came out and fixed it quickly. He also showed me what I could do to fix it in the future without having to call him out.

The refrigerator was not working. AHS sent out a tech who got it fixed and he did a great job. Our problem though is American Home Shield because they initially denied the request for service and it was very difficult to deal with them. We had to get our real estate agent involved. And we have another problem now. We paid extra to get our pool covered and we had some leaks from the pool pump recently. I sent in a request online four weeks ago and we didn't hear back until we called AHS. They said they'd have to find a pool plumber and a pool company and it took a long time to get a contractor lined up.
When we finally did, he was an hour and a half away. I sent pictures of the issue, so he’d get all the parts he needed, then we got radio silence. When we got a hold of the tech, he said that he was waiting for American Home Shield to get approval. Then, radio silence again. We called American Home Shield and said that he wanted a trip fee but they didn't want to pay him. We asked to get approval from the higher up and for them to call us back. Then, the tech called back and said that the work had been approved. But when we called him again, he said he was not going to for them anymore because it was too difficult. We had to get our real estate agent involved again so now he is going to come to Texas.
All in all, it has not been a happy customer experience so far. AHS should take care of their customers. If I got a problem and it’s covered, they should fix it and they shouldn't deny the claim when it's obviously covered. The contractor should also be close to where I live. I live in South Bend, which is a pretty big area, and there are apparently no pool guys that are working with them here. So, we had to get somebody from Crown Point. AHS should make the process easier, more customer friendly, and less painful. Right now, I'm so frustrated. I had a phone call from someone from American Home Shield that said they're going to take of my pool issue and that they're sorry about what happened. But this Friday, it’ll be four weeks that we've had all the pool equipment turned off and that shouldn't take that long.

I broke a trunk for a casserole. I took it out of the oven and put it in the sink. Without thinking, I turned the water on and the thing just blew up. That happened to be the side where the garbage disposal was. I got out as much glass as I could. But I wanted to make sure that all the glass was out of the garbage disposal so that's what the contractor did. They made sure that that was cleaned out. I also had a problem with the microwave and they came out a couple of times. But I have other insurance as well. I use AHS as a backup.
Having a home warranty helps to guard against unexpected expenses. It's an investment. A lot of my friends laugh at me 'cause I do it. But I've been doing it between AHS and Sears for about 40 or 50 years. It's beneficial 'cause as a single, older, senior citizen who has no skills, I want to be able to pick up the phone and call someone and have them come and fix the problem and not have to come up with a million dollars to do it so I appreciate it.

The washer would not advance all through the cycles. Whenever we filled it up, it just stayed in the same place. It didn’t move. That was what really made me call. Then the agitator was really off, too. It wasn’t moving around a lot. I was disappointed that the technician didn't have the part on the truck. But he said he had to order it. It took a while to get the part, but I was calling American Home Shield and they said it was on order. American Home Shield is good to have. I did three service calls with them on the same day, with plumbing and the washer and a maintenance thing that they offered. I like them so far.

My water heater started leaking and when I submitted the claim, it was quick and fast. The contractor was out the next day and it was approved and repaired within three days. American Home Shield replaced the water heater but I paid $520 out of pocket because they told me that they had to bring it up to code. I also had a claim for my washing machine. The belt had broken. The contractor came and replaced it but I did not have to pay out of pocket for anything. Another claim was for the plumbing in my bathtub. The piping on the inside was messed up. The contractor assessed it and fixed it. I just paid my $100 deductible and none out of pocket. AHS is fast and efficient. The monthly payment is reasonable and I like them. I told my neighbors about them and three of them signed up for it.

The technician came in, fixed the issue and explained the problem to me. He did a good job. Initiating the claim with American Home Shield wasn't an issue but there was a delay once the claim was issued and sent to the local company, and this particular company reaching out to me. I envisioned that once I made the claim, I would receive some type of contact from the company themselves as opposed to me trying to contact them and not getting a response, and then finally getting ahold of them.
I was contacted after leaving a message and they asked for the model number and the manufacturer. I gave them that information and didn't hear from them for a while. It turned out after a week and a half that they were ordering parts. That was fine but they didn't communicate that, so I didn't know if they were still addressing my problem or not. There's only so much that AHS can do but they can pursue a little bit more to get the contractor to communicate better.

We used American Home Shield a long time ago and they were great. My wife and I were in the Real Estate business so we were always approached with competitors all the time, but AHS seemed to be the one that took the best care of us. So, when we bought a new house up in Oklahoma, we decided to go back with them.
We had a built-in microwave that failed. It burst into an arcing plane underneath one of the panels. AHS had the technician come out, who then told me that there was a flaw in the paint job. It arced and caused a small fire. We didn't want to use the microwave anymore. It was a hazard. He took it out of the cabinet, took it apart, and showed me where it had failed. He knew exactly what it was and said it would have to be replaced. You can't buy the part was the problem that he said. They would have repaired it, but if they don't sell that particular module, AHS has to replace the entire unit. They gave us three options. One was to use some money to buy something else. One was a credit, and then the other was sending us a whole new unit. We elected to go ahead and get a new one. They're gonna send us the money if we can buy a new unit.

For some reason, I used to get somebody from the Philippines when I used to call American Home Shield. But now, I get somebody from the States who understands what I'm talking about and has a different sense of urgency and understands my needs. And that was great. We normally submit claims through the app or on the web but after the claim goes through, there’s no way to look at previous orders or what you paid. There's no way to get a history. I need some receipts for my record so that’s something that AHS could add to the service. My appliance wasn't repairable and AHS was able to replace it with another one which was close enough to the model and the specifications of the unit. That was with Mr. Appliance, one of the best appliance services that I had. They were awesome, professional and clean. I liked them. Even if I didn't have American Home Shield, I will use them.

American Home Shield was awesome, especially when our air conditioning went down. They ended up replacing the whole unit. It cost us $300. The process was really good. When we had a claim for the garage door, the tech that came out was fine. He said the issue was the springs and the woman on the phone told me that American Home Shield covers springs, so I paid the $75. But they didn't cover it so I paid him about $200 for the springs. Then the very next day, the garage door wouldn't go up and down properly. So he came back and the issue was the gear in the garage door opener. So he replaced that.
The woman that I talked to didn't know what she was talking about with the springs. I waited on the phone for 10 minutes for her to ask her supervisor. She came back and said they were covered, but they aren't covered. So I don't know where she got her information, but that did make me angry because it cost me an extra 75 bucks on top of the repair.

I submitted the oven door claim a month prior to it being resolved. The first guy American Home Shield sent told us, “We had to order a special part. And the part would be delivered to their office.” And then, once it arrived, he would come and install it at the end of the month. The end of the month came, but then he never showed up. When I called to inquire about why he didn't show up, AHS said the claim was closed for some reason. I said, “I need someone to still resolve this because it never got resolved. And I paid for the service fee already. So, send someone over ASAP.” So, AHS sent over a second technician. That technician came in, looked at it, got a screwdriver out, made an adjustment, and fixed the door without having to order a special part. The second guy was great. Got it resolved the same day. But what was the deal with the first guy? And why did get canceled? None of it added up.
Sometimes, AHS' work is great. Other times, just like the last guy, it's 50-50. You may get a good one or not. There's no quality control that I can see. Because it's a contractor. And there's no follow-up with AHS to see, “Was it resolved?” Or call back and go over everything that the technician reported. I just hope it gets done. The claim before was the exhaust blower above the stove. AHS couldn't find the part available because it's so old and they just cashed me out to buy a new one.
Also, I am in disagreement with AHS collecting the service fee before even scheduling a service technician to come out. As soon as I pick up the phone and call, they are already charging me a fee. That’s not fair. Also, it's so difficult to get a refund when it doesn't work out, or it's not covered. They should get the technician to come out, do an analysis, then charge the service fee. Why am I paying for it ahead of time? They don't even know if it's going to be covered. I spent weeks and weeks fighting for a refund.

We set up an appointment and they came out. I was afraid they wouldn't be able to help me because my plumbing is the original for my home which was built in '79. A young plumber was here a couple of weeks ago when I had problems with my toilet and he fixed that. Then the next week, he came back and fixed a plumbing issue in the kitchen. He was wonderful. The first time he came, he knew what was wrong. I told the lady that I spoke with at the company that I had broken the attachment that went to the inside which had something to do with the handle that you flush with. When I told the tech that I broke another one of those, he said he heard what happened, so he brought a metal one because he knew a plastic one wouldn't do it and I'd do it again.
Other than that, I usually call AHS when I have a claim and sometimes, if it's a simple issue, I can do the robot-like thing. But sometimes, I can't tell them so then I need to speak with an agent. I've been with them since 1983 and I had two to three properties at a time. I didn't want to but circumstances were such that the market might have been poor. And AHS has taken care of all of them really nicely, so I'm very happy.

Something inside the water nozzle where you turn the water on and off apparently stopped working and I couldn't get the water turned off completely. It was leaking. The vendor, Greenway Home Services, changed out the valves and everything in there. It took them less than 15 minutes and it was corrected. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is a simple process. I do it all online but I have to follow up with whoever they assign to make sure that they've got me on the schedule and when they'll be out. Unfortunately, American Home Shield sends it out to different vendors. So, you're at the vendors' mercy as far as their schedule goes. American Home Shield doesn't have any control over that part of it.
I waited eight days for a hot water heater to be replaced earlier in the year and my tenants were without hot water for that long. The vendor came within five days and put it in but they didn't hook it up correctly. So, it still wasn't working and we had to get them back out there the next day. It was Greenway as well. They seem to be the ones who come out for most everything that I've needed so far. I've used AHS about five times now and I've always had Greenway.
I've always referred AHS to other people because I realized that when you own a home, it could be very expensive to have these things replaced. So I find it very cost-effective to pay $75. On my dad's side, we had the refrigerator replaced for $75. That's something you can't go out and do. So, it's a very good deal from that perspective. AHS could make a difference though in vendor scheduling, instead of you having to go back and forth. Sometimes you call and then, you call who AHS have assigned it to, and they would say that they haven't gotten anything yet.
I experienced a couple of times of going back and forth. If there’s anything that AHS could contribute on making that vendor portion either easier or more timely, it would be great. But it is up to the vendor's discretion and how busy they are as far as things being scheduled. You don't typically have things happen the same day or even the next day. So be prepared to wait according to the vendor's schedule for whatever it is you need to get completed.

But there’s a number you could call. I have used American Home Shield off and on, and the most major thing were those related to the air conditioner. I'm in Houston, Texas and it is very important but they don't pay for everything and there's always a little fine print. But overall, the peace of mind has been good. The issue happened on Thursday and we contacted American Home Shield then. They said they’d get us an emergency contractor by 10 o'clock. That never happened. On Friday, we called again. That was when they said somebody would be with us on Monday. Alfred A Mousley Plumbing was out here on Monday, clipped the pipe and told us that it couldn't be fixed. They walked out and didn't give us any paperwork or explanation. They always did a good job except for this time. They just cut the pipe and left us with no water. Before they got here, we could turn the water on, take a shower and shut the valve real quick after we're done or used the water. As long as you shut it off, that pipe would stop leaking then you'd have to bleed the system out by turning our faucet so there was no water in there. Now, we just have an open pipe out on the floor. We've been going to a hotel in order to be able to have water to shower.
We spoke with American Home Shield and it was a gentleman with a little bit of a language barrier. We were on hold for 40 minutes. They said they have not received a report from Alfred A Mousley Plumbing from when they came out on Monday to say what the issue was and what they did. American Home Shield said they are waiting for that information that hasn't arrived yet and that we could contact the contractor ourselves to see if we can get it, which is very annoying. We're frustrated. We are working on our own to try to find another plumbing company that can come out and repipe our house so that we can have our water back. So, the service guy said that they probably wouldn't replace it, and they didn't. I didn't pursue it because it was just a rack. But sometimes they can get very petty with little things like that. But I can live with that. AHS could do better on their follow up after a service. My fan was continuously on even if I turned off everything. I made a claim with AHS and they sent Smith Company out. The techs did well and they were able to solve the problem. The service was quick, too. Other than that, the reps at the call centers that took my calls to AHS were patient enough to help me. But some of the companies that they send out are not expert enough to do the job. I had an issue with a certain HVAC company. We were freezing already and it took almost a month to wait for them. The technicians were not diagnosing the right problem, so they kept coming back. I asked them to check again then they got this material, so we waited for this material. And when they already installed the material, the problem was still there. So they had to check it again. All in all, AHS should select companies that send competent technicians.

I want American Home Shield to be there when I need it. When I had an electrical issue with my fan, they gave me Bradley as the contractor. The fan is old and I had to have some parts ordered for it. They had to come from California. They were hard to find too so the repair took a couple of months. But when I got them, Bradley came out and put the parts in with no problem. My only issue with American Home Shield is they put you on hold a lot of times and I don't want that. They should just answer the phone when they are supposed to. There should be easier communication.

Aurora Appliance was great. It was the same one who did my dishwasher and my dryer. The technician was awesome. It doesn’t matter when you submit a claim whether you do it online or you call a customer representative. Online is easy to do and very simple. American Home Shield has a user-friendly site to use and when you call a customer representative, they go above and beyond what needs to be done. When I see family members having problems with their appliances or anything at home, I always tell them that if they had American Home Shield, they wouldn't be going through this. I signed my sister up in Texas and I kept telling my friends that I've been with American Home Shield ever since I had bought my place and not once had I had a problem.

The AC unit wouldn't come on. When the contractor came out, they said the issue was from the wiring. It almost backfired and caught on fire. Both of the technicians jumped away and then they submitted a claim. But I didn't get any feedback on what needed to be redone. When I called about it, AHS said that the claim was denied. But I thought the replacement of the unit was covered. I didn't get any paperwork telling me what was going on. I did get a follow-up stating I had to pay for $2,000. But the two guys that came out were okay. They were professional. They let me know what was going on. But I thought they would have wrote that in when it had backfired.
AHS is an overall good company. But they need to follow up with their customers. I shouldn't have to chase them down when I'm paying them for coverage. There's lack of communication and not emailing me any information about the denial of the claim. I had to call myself to find out what was going on. I still have an outstanding claim on my refrigerator and I haven't heard anything from them regarding what is going on with that.

It hasn't been resolved and I always get forwarded to the maker of the dishwasher, whoever is going to deliver it or send it and we don't get anywhere. I've been put on hold for over an hour. I feel that AHS needs to take care of it, and they need to tell me it's going to be delivered on such a date. But they're trying to push me to talk to the company and I don't like that. My washer was giving us a problem but it wasn't the washer itself. Where the washer sits, it's not stable enough. I thought the noise was coming from the machine itself but it's the flooring. The tech gave me a couple of ideas how to go about it. He also noticed that the door with that white plastic around it was building up some sort of hard water stuff and he gave me a lot of ideas about how to clean it up. Plus he advised me not to get that big tumbling or the big vibration. Clothes should be put in there equally, like t-shirts with t-shirts, jean pants with jean pants, towels with towels. This way, you don't get a vibration. It's really worked. Everything was perfect. I was pleased with the assessment and the workmanship.
I've been having AHS for a while and so far, it's good. I have had a couple mishap with guys they send out here to do repairs which I didn't like. When AHS told me that they were going to send back a guy, I told them, "I don't want that one. Give me a different option." They said Sears and I told them I'd take Sears. It wasn't perfect but it was satisfactory.

The contractor came out several times to fix my dishwasher but they couldn’t fix it. So American Home Shield paid for a replacement. I got a Lowe's gift card from them directly to purchase a replacement, and Lowe's no longer carries the brand I want. I can use the gift card for Lowe's for something else. But then, I've got to pay out of pocket for the dishwasher that I want that I have to get somewhere else. It's kind of a pain, but that's fine.
I've had issues with my dishwasher and had four service calls for it. I know that things aren't covered after 30 days, but they were all kind of related. So it would have been nice to have been credited some of that $100 service fee. If things kept happening with an appliance within a three-month or a four-month period, and they finally replaced it, those service calls shouldn't get paid. But I'm still happy that American Home Shield provided me a replacement cost for replacing the dishwasher.

I did my thing, paid my deductible, then Reliable Appliances contacted me. They were fantastic. The guy that came out seemed very knowledgeable because he went straight to the problem and made me look like an idiot. Apparently, washers have filters on them that can get clogged up with dog hair and you should put the thing back so that none of the water would fall out of the hole. I wouldn't have known that if he hadn't told me. He opened it up and showed me the clog that was in there. He said he'd clean the filter then he set it all back up and now, it works absolutely fine. He also said that if I called him by myself, it would have been 150. So I made out.

This year, I had an issue with the microwave, and the tech took two minutes to figure out what it was. He ordered the parts and then came back a week later after the parts arrived. He fixed it and all done. Recently, there were two problems that the Sears tech was dispatched for. One was that the microwave stopped working. He diagnosed it and there were three switches that he replaced. Then the dryer wasn't functioning correctly. He told us how to change, how the exhaust was working. After that, he showed me the part that was broken that he replaced. It looked like a little burnt up, sad looking can. Then it’s not a new unit and so I don't know what it's supposed to sound like. We've had American Home Shield for a few years. It seems like they split the contract into different sections. If I call for the washing machine and the stove, I would have to pay twice because I would have to have two people come out. But when we signed up for American Home Shield, they said, "Try to save it, if you can. One service pay for one call, you can fix two or three different items." We tried to wait until we get two or three items and do the claim as American Home Shield recommended. That way, we're not wasting our or the serviceman's time. When we tried that last time, the rep said we could do the refrigerator, stove, and something else but we couldn't do the dryer. It would have to be a different service call.
They couldn't do the knobs on our stove too. We have two knobs on our stove that we can't use because the plastic is broken on the inside. When a guy came for our refrigerator and put new rubber on, he ordered the knobs too because he saw the knobs were broken. They came in the mail but the guy had to return them. American Home Shield would not replace the knobs when they are part of the stove. We were really disappointed.
As far as the service, it's great and we like it. Even though the price has gone up, we love American Home Shield. Both the servicemen who came for our claims were great. The one who fixed the dryer said that he used to do refrigerators and stoves but now, he can only do certain items. Another guy does certain items. With American Home Shield's service, we would like to have paperwork that says what is covered under each thing. That would be extremely helpful. That way, we would know if we can wait and hold on and see if anything else breaks or get the other category.
We always thought the washer, dryer, hot water heater, refrigerator, stove were all connected. But the hot water heater's separate. Our water heater was fixed a few years ago but now it's leaking again. It rusted out where it was fixed. American Home Shield told us that it was too long of a time in between. We didn't mind that. They said they were gonna charge us another 83 something and change.

He got it done pretty quickly. American Home Shield's claims process works well. When I have a claim, I just went on to the website and then, there's a bunch of categories there. I select the category that's closest, then typed in a brief description, and hit submit. After that, I’ll go with the confirmation, and then someone will contact me. We’ve used the service a few times. If something isn't working or breaks, it’s easy to get it fixed without having to worry about myself getting parts or having to do the fix myself.

Tropical Pools was wonderful. The repairman called me within the hour and I've never had that experience before. He told me to send a picture so he could see exactly what was wrong. He showed up the next day with what he needed to fix the issue and within less than 24 hours, everything was up and running. However, I haven't had a refrigerator for four weeks now. The compressor has gone out of it so American Home Shield said they opted to replace the compressor versus replacing the refrigerator.
The contractor ordered the compressor. Yesterday, they were supposed to come and install it. They realized that morning that they didn't have the proper tool for whatever linear compressor that my refrigerator takes. They reached out directly to American Home Shield and American Home Shield automatically assigned another contractor through Sears. They never showed up today. I called and finally got in touch to them. They said that the ticket had been submitted but they didn't have a technician to assign. But nobody ever called to let me know so I sat here from 8:00 to 12:00.
Every time you call American Home Shield, you can't talk to the same person. That is what is frustrating when you're experiencing a problem because you have to go through the whole story every time and there's nothing the frontline person can do. I need someone beyond them and they won't put you through. The one today told me their supervisor was off. But I would still recommend American Home Shield because I hear stories of friends who have home warranty companies that are not American Home Shield, and they sound like most of the time, their stuff doesn't get repaired. It sounds like it's a lot more trouble to go through with other companies than what I had experienced with American Home Shield, until now.

But all in all, he did a good job as far as putting a hole on my ceiling to see what was going on. It was a simple process. I'm a first time homebuyer so I didn't know that when you call for something to get fixed, that you need to tell American Home Shield all at that one time instead of calling for each individual thing because you would have to pay a deductible each time. But other than that, everything is fine. I should have also educated myself a bit better as well. I could have as far as knowing how it goes with the claims.
I had a basement issue and I had to call for that. If you flush the toilet, it wasn't flushing. It would come back. And then it was a leak. First, I was like, “Man, was it the seal?” But it wasn't. AHS got a company out, and they fixed it. I also didn't know that AHS didn't pay for getting the floor done. Because the tech had to dig up the floor. I thought that all came with it, but it didn't. My house was totally remodeled so everything looked great. But the guy had to cut and break up my floor in the basement to put down a new pipe. And he somewhat put the subfloor down, but he didn't even it out. But my floor didn’t get fixed as far as laying the tile down. That was upsetting. But the plumbing is great. He did a good job.

I'm having a problem with my electrical board of the pool. It's basically the control panel that controls the water pumps, the heater, filters, the salt cell and everything. I finally got around to having a tech be sent by the company and he said that he needed to replace that electrical board. One of the readings on the malfunctioning electrical board says no salt cell power. So, the electrical board is bad. It's not sending power to the salt cell, which is one of the dozens of things that the electrical board does. But since the words salt cell was in the tech's report, American Home Shield is refusing to cover it, even though I'm clearly covered for electrical and this is clearly the electrical board that needs to be replaced.
I told American Home Shield that it was just a misunderstanding and that there was nothing wrong with the salt cell and it was the electrical board. It literally says in this report that the board must be replaced and it has nothing to do with the salt cell. So they said that they would call the technician. That was last week. I've called every day, once a day for last week, and they keep saying that they will call the tech and get clarification and it's the same thing every day. They're telling me they can't get ahold of them. So I asked them to send another person.
Every time I call, I'm getting a different customer service rep and the customer service rep will say that they have the report here and it says that there's a problem with the salt cell and they don't cover the salt cell. Then I have to tell them that if they read closely, it says it's a problem with the board. That's what the last person said, and that's what the person before them said, and that's what the person before them said. If I can't get this rectified this week, I'm going to cancel my business with them.

When I bought the home warranty from AHS, they said it would cover anything from the time I purchased it on. But they denied the claim I made on the air conditioning. There were three other units that I made claims on and I didn't understand why they weren't covered as well since it wasn't my fault that they weren't working. So, I've been talking to the person in charge of claim denials. In the meantime, I have replaced two units. The tech they sent out gave me an estimate of $30,000 to replace the two, which I thought was excessive, and I was able to get them both down for $9,300. So I wanted to be compensated for part of it at least and AHS just said no because I had already gotten them replaced. But you can't rent something if it doesn't have air conditioning or heating. So I wasn't very happy with the whole situation. American Home Shield should have paid for what they were going to pay for as per my contract with them.
The whole idea of the home warranty is a good one. It's just that AHS didn't live up to their end of the bargain and they wouldn't even give me the $100 back when I had to pay for the inspection. Those people said that the ACs weren't any good and they told AHS that, so they denied my claims. Then they gave me an exorbitant price to replace the units, which I thought was sort of a scam.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I've emailed you as I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

Description of Complaint: I have been with American Home Shield for last 18 months. I pay them on time and in return I get nothing back. I have a rental property where the A/C stopped working. I called AHS for help. They assigned a contractor. 3 Days later the contract came out randomly without any notice. The HVAC guy from AHS said the condenser is shot, and cannot be repaired. After 3 days I call them to see how the situation will be handled. The Hvac guy says they are waiting for a new condenser to be shipped from AHS.
I then call AHS, they said they are waiting on the HVAC guy to send in some paperwork. About 7 days later I call them, AHS says they have approved a repair of the leak, not replace the condenser. Keep in mind the AC condenser cannot be repaired. Their method of repair? Just add more R22 refrigerant to the a/c. This does not fix the issue, as there are cracks in the condenser, it will just leak out in a matter of months. Second, that is illegal by EPA regulations.
I called the HVAC vendor yesterday, 2 times it went to voice mail (their voice mail says, "If we don't pick up call again"). So I called a third time, picked up and started yelling, "Why do you keep calling us?!" and hung up the phone. I let AHS know that I don't feel safe with this vendor, they said the system cannot change it and they will tell the HVAC vendor to schedule a time to come out. I'm about 12 days in now, still no reply from AHS and A/C still not fixed.

I have always loved American Home Shield and have used them for years. However, on March 3, I contacted them because my dishwasher was having issues. They sent someone out. He ordered parts and came back out to replace the parts. Still didn't work. The same contractor came out 4-6 times, replacing various parts. Finally they said they could not fix it. They sent another contractor out. He could not fix it. They sent a new contractor out, who has been out 4 times. It is now May 11 and my dishwasher still doesn't work. I have had several different contractors coming out, several different times. All this time, I have to deal with taking off work, and calling AHS many times, they will never let me talk to a supervisor.
Last week when I called, the agent told me this would be the last time they sent someone out. Well, he came out last night, replaced a part and it still does not work. I called AHS again this morning, insisted on speaking to a supervisor, but she would not let me. She once again made an appointment for the same contractor to come out again to diagnose my dishwasher. This is ridiculous. Why can I not speak to a supervisor who can do more than just read off of a script? Why do we need a contractor to come out again, when they know the dishwasher will not be fixed. At this rate, they could have probably replaced the dishwasher 2 or 3 times over, with the amount of time, cost and my time off of work this has taken. I tried going onto AHS website to see if I could talk to someone other than an agent who is just going to read off a script, but there was nothing. So I am having to make this complaint.

The light that the contractor sent by American Home Shield repaired hung down from the ceiling and there was a big gap where it was supposed to be flush from the ceiling. They said they couldn't, but they didn't have any caulk with them at the time. So, they put some silicone, but the silicone didn't work. It looked like almost an inch and a half gap from the ceiling. That was when we asked them to come back out and take care of that, which they did. They did a good job. Because they explained the way the hole was and the wood around it, that they couldn't get it up any higher. They made a sincere effort to do it and they did the best they could.

I've always had American Home Shield. They did a great job on the latest service. Having AHS has been beneficial to me. If anything goes wrong, you're covered if you have a home warranty. It's important just like car insurance, health insurance or life insurance. It stinks having to pay monthly, but when it comes down to it and something bad happens, just like we pay for health and life and car, it becomes valuable.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is extremely easy. But there is a trick. If you submit a claim and you don't know what's wrong, just tell them what the problem is and not what you think it is. Because the claims are submitted based on what you tell them. For instance, I had water coming into my basement, and I thought it was a leaky pipe. It wasn't a leaky pipe. But if I had just said, “I've got water coming into my basement,” they would have suggested how to go about fixing that or what the next steps were, as opposed to me just saying, “I need a plumber.” I did that. And I was like, “Oh, that’s my fault.” And not only that, but if you speak to somebody and you have more than one thing wrong, it can all go on one ticket as opposed to submitting separate tickets.
The tech was very respectful of my property. It was the second time he came out. He had come out a year earlier. He remembered us. I got to the door and I didn’t have my mask. I was like, “Oh, can you give me one second?” He said, “Oh, yeah, no problem.” He just stepped back and waited for me to come back to the door with a mask on. “No problem. How can I help you? What's going on?” I'm very satisfied with AHS.

The plumber was here when he said he would be and did good work. We have pumps attached to the water heaters and one of them had rusted through and started leaking. We had to turn off the pump there, had to get a whole new pump and installed that. It took a little time to get the part but he was good about getting it in as soon as he got that. We also called out the furnace folks to repair a solenoid and they were fantastic as well. I'm glad we went with American Home Shield.

Two of my friends got AHS and they said that when they had a problem with their pools, the repairs were covered. AHS sent JWC Pool to them and they both loved the tech. They said that he was great and that he went above and beyond. At the time, I just put in a pump and it cost $800. But with AHS, $800 would be one service for the year. So, I signed up with them and got the contract for 1,200. After I did a couple of things to make sure I liked it, I took a contract out on my second home.
When I put in the claim for my pool, I asked to see if I could have the same people that my friends told me about because they came recommended. I also told them that I lived in the same town as my friends who were serviced by that company. AHS refused and said that they were sending this other company because of whatever reason. But that vendor was part of their program and I didn't understand why I couldn't request the same guy. Other than that, I recently had a slow drain that someone took care of and I had a tune-up on my air conditioning unit. Submitting claims with AHS was also very easy.

Sometime last fall, the upstairs unit stopped working. It would still be blowing but it would be blowing hot air. United Air Temp came out on numerous different times and replaced several different parts. The system seemed to work. We had an actual winter in Florida so we weren't running the unit as much. United Air Temp started having to come back out because of the same issue we had. We had the unit set for 78 and it was 86 degrees. I called AHS and had to pay another service fee. United Air Temp replaced the same item that they had replaced in the fall which felt was a little weird. But I can only go by what they tell me because they're "the professionals". That seemed to be a fix for a few days. But the unit stopped working again so they had to come back out and replace some T21 hard kit because they were thinking it might be the compressor. They've done a couple of different things but had to come out again.
The guy that comes out is the one I like. He's a sweet guy and knows the headache we've been going through. But they keep coming out, does a temporary fix then we're back at this another issue. We have to work around our schedule when they have to come out. I love American Home Shield and they're still my go-to warranty people 100% but I'm a little disappointed because I don't know why United Air Temp keeps coming out. There's obviously something more wrong and I'm not sure why no one's understanding that. I'm tired of calling. We're okay right now but how long will the unit work? I'm just waiting for the ball to drop.

The refrigerator freezer stopped working, and they ended up having to replace the whole unit. It took two and a half weeks to get the unit but everything has been working fine so far. American Home Shield has given a satisfactory service. The claims process is pretty good. But a problem here in Augusta is that we're so small and we don't necessarily have service people that are nearby. So it sometimes creates a problem for getting somebody out here.

Having AHS gives me peace of mind 'cause we're on a fixed income now and we have a brand-new home. So, everything is new within five years. It's just good to know that if something goes wrong, we have it. We recommended it to two of our neighbors and they've already signed up. We made a claim recently and the technician came out and checked everything. There were several things that were wrong that were causing the problem and he repaired them. It was the ice maker was freezing up and not producing ice, and then it would make this really loud sound periodically.

When I had a claim for my washer last year, I couldn’t find a washer that was within the budget that American Home Shield had given me. So they have to keep up with the current prices for that. I had to add an extra $200 from my pocket just to get the washer that had the things I was looking for.

We had an air conditioning problem and I was calling American Home Shield every day asking what was going on. They told me that they didn't have the parts. It took five days to even okay some of the parts and then they still needed one of the parts. Then they texted and said that they would get a part on Monday. But that would have been over two weeks with no air. So I called an air conditioner guy and he drove over the same day. He said he had the part in his truck and he fixed my air conditioner. So American Home Shield had us in 91 degrees for nine days without fixing it. I am not happy about.
When I called American Home Shield, all the people I was getting was from another country talking to me about all these things. I couldn't get anybody nearby or anybody from American Home Shield to not only call me back but talk to me from this country where they understood that at Orlando, when it's 91 degrees, it's 100 degrees index. So that was horrible.
When I first had American Home Shield years ago, they were right on top of stuff. You call them and then they had somebody out at your house. Now, it's not like that at all. You have to wait days for the work person to come to your house. It will take two to three days at least for somebody to come out, even if it's an emergency. My refrigerator was an emergency and it took a really long time for the company to come out. When the tech came out for the refrigerator, he didn't realize other things that needed to be fixed. But he was a very nice man. A few years back, American Home Shield sent out a guy to repair my stove, and he broke something. But they were on top of that right away. They bought a new stove because the guy broke it. But now, I don't know what happened to them. You can't even talk to them anymore, so they've gone downhill.
For the air conditioning claim, I called American Home Shield at least three times a day. I would stay up sometimes till 4:00 in the morning with cold washcloth on my dogs because they were suffering so badly. That's ridiculous when you're paying somebody $70 a month for years. I called American Home Shield and said that I wanted my money back for the air conditioner. Then they gave me another song and dance about that and never heard anything. I asked for a manager every time I called and every single time, they said, “They'll get back to you in 24 hours.” But not one time was I called back. It was more than disappointing. It was deadly too. My dogs have MVD and that they're on heavy-duty heart medication. I also have a heart condition.

She took my instructions, but she forgot to mention a segment. We kind of waited until there were multiple things wrong with the dishwasher. But unfortunately, she only mentioned one. The guy was nice enough to take the other issue and included it. At that point, it was a third trip out and he corrected it. I was appreciative of that. I would definitely recommend American Home Shield. It was recommended to me and it was something that I decided to act upon. I was very glad that I did. It was a good first experience.

The fan is set to off, but it would come on randomly throughout the day. American Home Shield set me up with whatever that company was. And then, there was a guy who called me. They told me when they were coming out. It went smooth. We had one guy come out. My wife was there and he explained it well. The guy changed the filter, did a couple of things, but it didn't solve the problem. I put something to have them come back. I was able to meet the guy. And we were up in the attic. There was a little switch. He explained this is a feature that they put into newer homes where it vents in outside air randomly. If you have it on, it just vents in outside air in, just to keep pressure in the house. He fixed it. He flipped the switch and that was it. It was a good experience for us.

The first gentleman who came in was looking at my microwave and he was too short. I had to give him a stepladder to look at the problem. He wasn't being very detailed about it so, I didn't appreciate his service. Then, I had a young man come out here to look at my dishwasher. He said it needed to be lined and he also made the statement that it was too old. He said that they would probably fix it or replace it.
I had just gotten a letter a couple of days ago that it wasn't gonna be covered but that's the part I didn't understand. The dishwasher was not leaking but if you turn it on, water goes all over my floor. The tech said it wasn't lined but that's the way the dishwasher was when I moved in here. It’s a very old dishwasher so, I wanted to know if it was working properly because I had intended on getting a new dishwasher. I had just had this house fumigated so we were still sweeping up some of the dead roaches. When I got the report back, it said that they could not repair my dishwasher due to the fact that it had roaches, and this and that. But that had nothing to do with it. He didn’t mention that when you turn it on, it leaks. I was very disappointed with that.
I was seriously thinking about finding me another company because I’m paying American Home Shield $100 in my monthly fees but every time somebody comes out here, the next thing I know is that this can't be done. Then, I'm coming out of pocket anyway so, what's the use of having a warranty if I'm not getting anything out of it. On the other hand, United Garage Doors was great. The tech was knowledgeable, courteous and explained step-by-step about what’s going on with my door. He told me about how much it would cost so, we called them back and we paid them out of pocket. He fixed the garage door and I have a guarantee from the company that he works for if anything else could go wrong. I understood that the warranty couldn't cover the garage door itself and I explained that to the person when I was asking them about sending somebody out here to repair my garage.
American Home Shield was beneficial when it came to the garage door only. But not for the other two. I'm not 100% satisfied with the work that was done. If friends would ask me about the garage door, I would recommend AHS. But if they asked me about the other things that I've gone through, I would not recommend it.

The lack of transparency with this company failing to inform the customers that water heaters fall under plumbing and stove top falls under appliance and an AC unit falls under HVAC and stovetop over can falls under electrical. When being informed of this and requesting a refund the agent on the phone said well it works like an HMO referring to Healthcare insurance and letting me know that no refund would be provided for the purchased homeowner association policy.
