The furnace wasn't getting warm. There’s something going on with the ducts. I did a claim to American Home Shield by phone. The rep I got was very helpful. The techs had to do some type of order because the work was far more severe than what they thought. They didn't get a chance to do the job because the contractor who installed the HVAC ended up reaching back out to me and so he promised to do the repairs.

My dishwasher was acting up. It wasn't draining properly and it was smelling really bad. The techs came out and they needed to order parts. They went ahead and ordered parts the same day. Parts came in the next day, and they repaired it. It was a really good experience with them. They were very professional and friendly. Usually, if I put a claim in, AHS responds to my claim right away. The only thing is the deductible. This is my third time repairing the dishwasher. It's always the same problem. If only they were more willing to replace instead of repair.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.

I've had American Home Shield in every house I've bought in the past four years. Recently, my icemaker busted and I had something wrong with the spinner on the dishwasher. The repairman who showed up was good and did what he said he was gonna do. He had to order the parts and come back. He came out on a Wednesday, came back out on Friday and had it done.

So far, great. The people that came out to correct our heater did a great job. The repairman knew what he was doing and was very persistent. He wouldn't stop until he figured out what the problem was. They replaced the part and the heat is working great now. Everything is what we wanted and expected.

Everything went fine. The contractor came out that same day, looked at the water heater, evaluated it, reported it to American Home Shield, and they were back out here the next day fixing it. It had two little pinholes popping and it was shooting water, flooding my basement. My water is even hotter than it was before. I would tell others the plan that I got and to go with it if they want to.

I called AHS and put in a service request for my dryer. But the contractor they hired to do the work did not show up. I gave him another chance to show up, but he did not show up again. So I called American Home Shield to request them to change it to another contractor, and they never did. They argued with me and finally got another contractor. Long story short, it took me a month to get my dryer fixed when they simply could have contacted another contractor that day when this guy failed to show up. But the guy they hired recently did a great job. He's a very busy guy so you had to be patient with him on his time but he followed up on things to made sure it was right, so he went above and beyond.

The heater in the bedroom wasn't working. We turned it in as a heating problem and American Home Shield was very helpful. They told us that they sent out a furnace person. The furnace person says it's electric because it's a thermometer and just a little square on the wall. I was called right back and they got it scheduled for an electric person. The information for the contractor was emailed to me and it told me the person's name so I would know who to expect in my phone.
The tech was on time and he was very helpful He even gave us some advice for some other stuff on how to clean it for the whole year and how many times you do it. The techs were very knowledgeable of their expertise. I'm glad I had American Home Shield because I wouldn't have known how to fix the electricity. Get this home warranty.

We had American Home Shield's service in the past in Georgia when we lived in a house there. We're back in a house here, so we knew we wanted to get it again. We're enjoying it and it’s peace of mind. I usually don't buy any type of warranty, but with home things, I do. We had two air conditioners, water heater and several things that we used AHS for in the past at our other residence. World Class AC came right out and fixed our air. He was out there working on it before he even knocked on the door. So, it was great. I wish we would have done it sooner.

I like the service and I recommended American Home Shield to friends and colleagues. There was an issue with the AC and their contractor came out and repaired that. However, if an individual is filing a claim on the same appliance, they shouldn't have to pay a deposit for a technician to come out and look at that same appliance. The same appliances keep breaking down, and I have to call back, pay the deposit, and they'll come out and fix it. For my dishwasher, they've been out a total of five times. This last time, the gentleman said he got it fixed. It shouldn't have any more issues but that's what I've been told before. For my refrigerator, I'm waiting on somebody to come back out. But it had the same issues and American Home Shield had somebody come out almost four times. For my microwave, they had to come out several times for that. The tech assessed the microwave and said instead of them keeping coming out, he was gonna have American Home Shield them send me a new one, and they did.

Home Shield is a ripoff and they are the worst company in the world. I have open things with them but they never paid out for them. No one ever calls back. It's a circus. When the tech came to my house, he said that the motor was covered and that I had a cool coverage. But if you’re reading the fine print online, 156 only covers the main motor and not the pump motor and the spa motor. My pool all one unit. The tech ended up walking out of here with an extra 400 bucks for a $100 motor. The whole thing was unbelievable.
When I called a couple of years back to have my hot water heater fixed, a guy showed up here and he didn’t have tools. I took the unit apart for him. They then ordered the wrong one and I was out 12 days without hot water. Finally, the tech came back with the right one, installed it and said that in order to get the install done, they would have to bring it up the code. But the thing is up to code. The tech said, “No, we need this. We need to vent it out.” I said, “I'm a contractor. You barked up the wrong tree. Just get it installed.” He goes, “I'm sorry. Normally this works. We do this on 80% of the calls. We just upcharge people and tell them they need this and that. Because Home Shield doesn’t pay. They don't pay us enough.”
The tech guy said, “The only reason why we work for Home Shield is because we get steady calls. We could pad our bills and stuff and get paid.” As a customer, I was thinking that was what they did all the time. It's true because Home Shield never wants to cover anything. I called Home Shield and talked to a supervisor. They never even got back to me and never said anything. This will be my last time with Home Shield and I'm switching to a different company. Don't ever get this home warranty and read the fine print. You get screwed every time. I’m requesting a call from upper level management. Maybe they could turn me around.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. My name is Stacy & I will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to assist with unresolved issues. Thanks for your patience.

Our HVAC system had some leaks and we couldn't figure out where it was coming from. It took probably a week and a half for the tech to come out and make the repair. Then, there was a second leak and they came back and fixed it. I have a second claim that I'm having issues with that is regarding my hot water heater and it's been an issue for almost a month and it still has not been repaired. So, I am doubting that I will continue with American Home Shield. We had initial people come out and they told us that they had to replace the igniter. I told them that the igniter is not the problem. It’s the hot water heater not able to heat the water in a consistent fashion. You take a five-minute shower and when you start, you have hot water. When you're done, you have cold water.
The techs said they had to follow certain protocols. They replaced the igniter switch, and I called them back and said that I was still having the same problems. I have hot water but I can't fill a bathtub. I can't take a shower that lasts longer than four minutes without having no hot water. They came back and said that I needed my hot water heater replaced. Then, American Home Shield told me that more than half of what it would cost to replace that hot water heater is not covered. So, I have to pay for all of these additional charges, which is close to $800. They said they could give me a cash out, which is about $550, that I could have someone else come and replace my water heater or they would send a second company to my house to see if the first company was correct in their assessment.
AHS sent out a second company. The kid probably should not be fixing people's water heaters. He came the first day and I came home from work to find out there was no hot water coming out of the faucet at all. You turn on cold, you get running water. You turn on hot, it was dry as a bone. So, I immediately called American Home Shield and the guy came back the next day. Now, we have running water, but there is no heat in the water at all. So, AHS said they would replace the water heater but I would have to go back to the first company and have them replace it and I still have to pay that $800 difference. Or they would give me a cash out and I can find my own person to replace the water heater. Or I could go find my own person to replace the water heater. They would give me $600 towards whatever the new water heater would cost. But everything else would be, again, out of my own pocket.
I am trying not to freak out on the phone with the poor person at the plumbing company who doesn't know what to do or the person who answers American Home Shield's phone. It's not their fault that this is stupid and messed up. And none of those additional items are covered because I have a gas water heater. AHS came up with this arbitrary number that it's going to cost to re-fit a new water heater. At least if the guy would have left it the way it was, I could have hot water until I could find someone else to come and replace it. But I have had no hot water for a week. And they don't seem to care.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your unresolved concerns.

I got American Home Shield in 2019. I bought an older home. Some of the appliances were new. Some were older. You pay a monthly fee and if there's a problem with the appliance, they fix it. If they can't fix it, then they’d replace it. I thought it was reasonable since I can't really fix anything. But I'm certainly very dissatisfied with the latest issue with my dryer. My dryer was turning on, but not heating the clothing. I thought it was possibly electrical, so I had a friend of mine who's an electrician come and take a look at it. He said the electrical system to my house was working fine and that it had to be the dryer. I called American Home Shield and they had a technician come out.
The technician said, “We have to replace the circuit board.” When they got the part in, they had a technician come back out. He replaced the circuit board. The dryer was turning on, but it still wasn't heating. He said that it wasn't the dryer, it was my own electrical outlet. I said I just had my own electrician come and look at it. He was not very pleasant. He was somewhat indignant when I questioned why he then replaced a part that was in working order, so he claimed. I called American Home Shield, told them what happened. They just sent an electrician. When the electrician came out, he checked the outlet and said, “No. Everything is fine. It’s the dryer. The dryer’s broken.”
It's been at least six weeks that I've had no dryer. This has been really dragging on. I was just being bounced back and forth. So, I called AHS again. They said, “We have to send out a technician.” By this time, I was really fed up. The technician said, “I still think it's your home electrical system. But your dryer’s not working, so I'll tell them to replace the dryer.”
Where the dryer is placed in my laundry room is a very tight spot. The delivery people took the dryer off the truck, and then they connected the power cord. A little while later, they called me and they said the 6-foot power cord doesn't reach the outlet, ‘cause the outlet is up on the wall. They said, “You have to go buy an input cord.” and then they left. They did not connect the vent. They said, “There's no point in connecting the vent because there's no power to the unit.” I say, “Okay. When someone comes back to fix all this, we’ll connect the vent.”
I also paid extra and upgraded to the steam dryer version. But I forgot about that. A few days later, I looked around and thought, “They never connected the steam to the water source.” I didn't see any box with any parts. The technician was dispatched to come when I replaced the power cord. When I realized the issue about the steam dryer capability, I let American Home Shield know before the technician came here. The technician called me and said, “Don't worry about it. I'll take a look at it.”
He came and he discovered one thing. When the delivery people had installed the original power cord, they broke a screw inside the system. Unfortunately, it was where the grounding wire goes. They didn't say anything about it. So, he was able to properly connect the new cord that I purchased. The cord reached fine but the power didn't come out.
This guy said, “The wires in the outlet are broken.” I said, “American Home Shield sent an electrician. He said it’s 240 powers coming out of there.” He said, “No. The outlet is broken. You have to replace it.” Now I am paying out of pocket, and I still don't have a dryer ‘cause I couldn't get the electrician to come. He’s hopefully coming this weekend to replace the outlet. I'll have to call them to come back because I have to now order the parts for a Y cord to connect the washer and the dryer to the water source for them to install that. Since this fiasco, I’m not very happy.
Also, my washer, all of a sudden, decided to stop working. AHS sent three different technicians before they would put in that the washer’s not working and to replace it. It's a tremendous headache to convince somebody that your appliance is not working properly in order for them to do something about it. I spent over $700 a year on the warranty. At some point, I may change to a different company because of the aggravation they put me through when something's not working right, it may not be worth what they charge. Then they also charge $100 for them just to come in.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your unresolved concerns.

The heat pump kept a funny noise. And sometimes, it would come on but there was a delay. I went online on American Home Shield and put in a request for service. The technician was very professional. He explained whatever it was that he found. And they had to get some parts to fix the problem. They said it would take about a week, and it did take a week before the parts came in. They fixed it on a timely manner after that. It makes it easy on the homeowner to know that there is someone there that we can call and we don't have to worry about the cost of it, that they will make sure that you get the appropriate person out to take care of the problem. If I just pay my $100 upfront, everything else is usually taken care of.

That was insane and I loved it. The techs were very professional. They did the work and told me what they were doing. When it was over, they made sure the temperature was right. American Home Shield should keep up the good work. They have a great customer service. And one thing I like about them is right after each service call that would really put the customer service on the spot to deliver the professional message and communication with the clients, is the survey that is in place. And that, by itself, is a great tollgate to improve the customer service as well as the efficiency and the communications with the clients. I have been with different companies, and although AHS' service fee is higher than almost all of them in the market, it's well worth it.
My claim with 5 Star In Home Services was one of the best experiences I ever had with any contractor. They came to repair a fridge and the freezer. I've been waiting on my washer to get fixed since December. It took over two weeks to even get the repair company out to look at it and then they said they needed a part. So since December, I've been waiting on the appliance repairman to come back with the part. Before, American Home shield used to send a local repair company and they were usually here within a couple of days. Also, the tech usually has parts on his truck. So I don't know why American Home Shield sent out somebody who's out of town and who can't come for a week or two when there are plenty of appliance repair people here in Bakersfield. When American Home Shield says they will call me back and they'll check with the repair company, they don't call back so I have to call them. The same thing happens with the repair company. At one point, I sat on hold for two hours, to the point where I forgot I was on hold.
This is the fourth service call for my washer since I’ve had American Home Shield. So with what they paid on the appliance repairmen, they could have just replaced the washer by now. Also, they should send the same appliance place so the history will be there to where the repairman will be like, “You know what, I've been out here three times. I'm gonna put in a recommendation to have it replaced.”
I went shopping for a washer this past weekend, just looking at the pricing. So I called American Home Shield and I asked them, “If I buy a new washer, can I get my service fee back?” They said, “No, that's not refundable. You have to just wait for the repair people to come back to finish.” I told them that it's taking too long and I have a family of five. It's not convenient for us to go somewhere else to do laundry. The reps were always really nice, but they said, “No, I'm sorry, but they already came out today. No, so we can't give the service fee back.”
I called American Home Shield the other day because I noticed my dishwasher was leaking at the bottom. I told them that since I still got this service request open for the washer, can I add to it? Because the repair company is coming back next week to finish the washer. But the rep said no because I didn't add it when they first came for the washer.

I'm delighted to have American Home Shield, but because of the nature of that insurance company, the service I get isn't as fast as I would like. I wish it were a little more rapid. They will assign a contractor for a problem covered by them, and a vendor or contractor often gets in touch, but is unable to address the problem for days and sometimes a week. Also, I'm in LA County. American Home Shield is going to work with vendors that are appropriate for its cost structure, and sometimes, these contractors are very far away because this is a huge county. That's a factor too, but I'm not complaining. The job gets done, and I'm grateful for that.

The repair guy fixed the toilet and then looked at the bathtub faucet. We couldn't see anything wrong with the faucet but he said that the claim can still be open for 60 days. If it happens again, then he will come out and check it out again to see if it works or not because it is still doing the same thing that it was doing before. It’ll happen when you want someone to look at something. But when they're gone, then it does it again. It's the guest bathroom and I'm not sure how the guests were pulling the knob out. The repair guy showed me that there is a release thing on top of where the water sprays out to take a shower and that if the guests don't pull it hard enough, then it won't convert to the shower versus the bathtub. So, we'll see if it does it again. The guy was nice and very informative, and I was happy with his professionalism.
When you do the claim online or even when you talk to somebody on the phone, American Home Shield doesn't exactly tell you what is covered and what is not covered. For instance, when I had somebody come out for my garage door because it says garage door repair, the issue was not covered. The only thing that was covered was the garage door motor, not any parts of the garage or the garage itself pertaining to the motor pulling it up or not. The track was bent out and the wheels kept popping out. So, that was not covered. So, if my motor went out, then it would be covered. AHS should explain exactly what is covered before people pay the extra $100 or whatever plan they have and explain to that person that this is not covered so they don't waste their time and somebody else's time and the money.

The faucet in the tub was broken and we had a leaking hookup for our washer and dryer. It was normal wear and tear on the faucet so it wasn't covered. While the technician was checking the washer and dryer hookup, my husband immediately bought a new faucet and the technician installed it for us at no charge before he left. For the hookup, we're still waiting for everything to be approved so that it can be released. AHS has been super easy to use. The fact that I can just plug it in my address and it automatically goes through is very convenient.

I've got four properties with AHS. They have always had decent service and good prices on the coverage. In one of my properties, there were three rooms that were not having electrical service to the outlets. The electrician went out there and was very friendly, professional, resolved the issue, and then took care of it. But I also had a water heater issue, which was my very first claim with that particular unit. The water heater went out and stopped delivering hot water. The contractor AHS engaged with was extremely unprofessional, caused some damage to the unit itself, refused to fix the problem, and was cursing out my tenant. I had a very foul and bad experience with them and I submitted a Better Business Bureau complaint because of them.
I expect AHS to have qualified people that have vetted people to advocate on my behalf because that's what I'm paying them for. When AHS engages with a contractor that provides poor service, horrible interactions, and I come back to AHS and I try to explain that and let them know, and they tell me, "You need to let them in there to repair the problem," instead of sending out somebody else out, they put me in a very precarious position, especially when I have a tenant involved in the situation with the house because they were also berated and belittled by this contractor.
AHS turned a deaf ear towards my complaint. Even though it's 100% the contractor's fault in what they did, ultimately, because AHS engages with them and contracted for them to become the service provider, it's really AHS's responsibility to make sure they complete their job satisfactorily and have good interactions. Otherwise, AHS should terminate their contracts with them.

When I had a leak in my kitchen faucet and in my bathroom, I set up a claim online and it was easy. American Home Shield put online which company was coming out, and if I didn't receive a call or notification from them within a certain amount of time, to call them myself. I had their phone number, so I called them and we set up an appointment. The repair man was fantastic, explained everything and got back to us. He had to come a couple times because the parts needed to be ordered. He texted then called to let us know he was on his way. Everything was perfect, and every time I called to check on things, the company was so pleasant.
I didn't like that American Home Shield wouldn't pay very much on the plumbing, that I had to go buy my own faucets, but it is what it is. It was still less expensive than hiring a plumber to do it. I had the home warranty when I first purchased the house. When we first moved in, we had all old appliances, and they replaced every single one of them, not batting an eye. It was awesome. After the home warranty lapsed, about five months later, my washing machine broke down. They would have covered it if I would have only renewed. That was when I renewed, after I had to buy a brand new washing machine.

We had our washer-dryer and refrigerator fail at the same time and AHS handled it quickly. They fixed the dryer right away. For the refrigerator, it was the ice maker and that's an ongoing thing because it's not what they thought it was. The guy replaced the ice maker, thinking that the old one was bad, but the problem’s still there. So in going back to file another claim to have him come out, I thought it would be better to tack it on to the original claim. But there's no place on the website where you can really do that, so I had to call them and that was what they did.

We just heard a banging noise on our furnace and we called American Home Shield right away. A tech came out and examined everything. He was very thorough, checked everything and said everything was okay. We were okay but we just wanted to make sure we weren't in any danger. It's an older furnace. I like everything about my home warranty. They've been very good to us. We take good care of our appliances and our heating, cooling system. But as things get older, you figure you need this protection. When we call, they send qualified people and we're happy with it. Sometimes, there is one little issue. If you have a problem that you think could be an emergency, you want to make sure a tech can come right away and not in two weeks.
Otherwise, we get good service and we're happy with what they cover. A lot of these other companies, you have to read the fine print. American Home Shield covers the whole thing. If something needs to be replaced, they cover it. They're the best. They're reputable and have been around a long time. We're very glad we're insured by them.

I've only had to call American Home Shield a handful of times, but they have always resolved the issues. It's money well spent. I've been very pleased. Recently, my sump pump went out. The only problem is I called the night the pump went out. And for some reason, the rep that was on the other end of the phone didn't submit the order because I was waiting for a confirmation. So, I called back the following morning, just explained to them that I didn't get an email confirmation or text. And they found out that the rep didn't put the order through. When I called back, the guy put the order through.
I originally called on a Thursday, but that was when the order didn't get put through. So, I called back Friday morning. And the company, The Service People, they couldn't come out until Tuesday. So I went and rented a pump to pump the water out of my basement for the meantime, which I understand because it was the weekend and they're booked up. But they were here when they said they would be here, called me before they arrived, showed up prepared. The tech brought the wrong pump at first. He only brought a third horsepower pump. But he immediately ran back down to Ace and got a half horsepower pump, which is what I had. Unlike the other plumbing company that I had before, I had a half horsepower pump but they put a third horsepower in. They were good.

The garbage disposal had quit working. I called AHS and submitted a claim. However, they should have a little less waiting time as far as trying to get ahold of somebody. They need to quit saying, “Push this, push that.” When it says push 2 to speak to a claims person, it shouldn't make you push 2 three times besides that. It also took them a little bit of time to find somebody. But the techs were great. They fixed it right away and it was done. It works well now.
AHS is a good thing to have, especially if you have a large appliance that breaks and saves you a little bit of money out of pocket from having to repair it or if it has to be replaced. But right now, I'm going through an incident where I have a dishwasher and a dryer that I've been waiting three months to be fixed. They couldn't find the part. Now, they've got the parts for the dryer, but they can't find the parts for the dishwasher. I thought it had to be fixed within a reasonable amount of time. Almost four months is not a reasonable amount of time for me. It gets expensive when you have to sit there and run to the laundromat every week to dry your clothes.
There's been no communication. I've had to keep calling and it shouldn’t be that way. They should be calling me, saying, “This is what the holdup is.” That way, we could’ve got it resolved. I talked to them today and I talked to the people who are at the appliance place. He said he was gonna call back up there and see if they had the part. I said, “They're telling me that you're saying, ‘You have to tell them that since they can't find the part, they need to replace it.’” He said, “They're telling me that they're the one that has to replace it.” Every time I call, I get the same runaround. If they can't find the parts, let’s get it replaced. Don't keep dragging me over the coals saying, “They can't get the part.” I wish they'd hurry up and get me fixed.

My AC was not heating my house when it should so I submitted a claim with AHS online. The online dashboard told me I needed to contact Family A/C to schedule my appointment, so I did that. This would be the second time that AHS assigned that contractor to my ticket. It was the same person who came out the first time, so that was good.
I had another claim and AHS assigned a contractor to me. That person called me and said, “I'm too busy. I can't show up.” But I ended up getting charged. It was a hassle to get my money back on that because the contractor said he completed the ticket. I also made a claim one time before and they sent out Total Air and that company was the cause of the issue that came up the most recently. They had apparently overfilled my Freon. American Home Shield is a tried and true method. They have always gotten back to me very quickly. The frame time is sometimes six hours when the contractors would come from 10:00 in the morning until 2:00. And I'd like to see that a bit shorter because then I have tied up most of my day waiting, not knowing when the contractors are coming. It's not that big of an issue because I'm retired. But for people who aren't, and if they have to take time off from work, it would be nice if there was just a bit less time. I had an outside faucet that we could not open. The contractor came out, replaced it in 20 minutes, and they were on their way. Since we've been there, AHS replaced our oven. That covered the cost of a year and a half. So, if you buy a house that has 10 or 15-year old appliances, I wouldn't think twice of getting them.

They suspected it was a fill valve. They put one on order and came back about two weeks later and put it in. They were awesome. If for appliance repairs, I would strongly suggest AHS. Use them as a primary vendor in this area. I appreciate that I can put in a service request online now. As a consumer on the online process, I wish though that there was a word text field where I could describe the issue. The guy that came to do the repair was phenomenal and he knew what he was doing. He had to order some parts and that took a couple of weeks. But they were able to take care of it. On the whole, the process with American Home Shield is smoother than it used to be. The online portion has improved tremendously. You have to submit payment right away and there's no issue about paying the contractor or who got paid or who didn't get paid. When looking for warranty service, read your policies. List all the things it covers. There are a lot of stipulations as to what my home warranty will not cover. AHS is not perfect, but it's better than trying to find a technician to come out and do the job, and then I worry if they're qualified or not. But, when I turn a claim in, sometimes it takes four or five days for a technician to make contact with me, then it's three days for parts to come in. Like when the air conditioner went out and I got a wife that's on the oxygen system, the urgency was not there. But I like the peace of mind that I'll get a qualified technician to come out to do the job.
The only time I had a dispute was when the house was built, I had a plumbing issue and they said, “That's not up to code today.” They penalized me for not being in code. But it was in code when the house was built. I didn't take it any further. But everything else had been very satisfactory. Now, I got a claim to replace a wall oven unit. But there are no models available at this point in time. If I go outside of American Home Shield, they're not offering me enough money to put in a decent unit for anything. It took a few days for them to get out here to address the situation. The tech came out and repaired. But he did not turn the water off. I did not know that. I didn't pull the refrigerator out there to verify until I had seen more water pouring out of the refrigerator. And from the time that he came to assess and me getting it fixed, more and more water was pouring out on my floor. There was nothing at that point that I could do to even salvage it, which is why it was deemed as crucial as it was. We had mold and a lot of other things found as a result of the water sitting under there. In the end, he did get the issue repaired.
It was slower than I thought it should be. But I have to be understanding of the fact that it takes time for things to come in. It took three weeks for the part to come in. Immediately, upon repair, the refrigerator started leaking again. So he came out a second time after the repair to verify, fixing things apart. And he discovered that didn't see where a leak was, but whatever he did that last time, I feel fully repaired of the issue because it has not leaked since. Sign up with AHS.

They said they were going to send a technician and that they were going to call me to tell me when they were gonna come over. Then Potate's called and they came over and checked it. They went back to American Home Shield to tell them what happened and what they saw. The people at Potate's were very good. I would recommend them anytime. When you talk on the phone to any one of them in their office, they're very polite and very professional. I love the company.
There was a time that I did a service call and American Home Shield said they were not going to fix the item. I was very angry and I was gonna let them go. But I thought, "That was the first time something like that is going to happen. So let's leave it on and see if it's gonna happen again." It never happened again. So I would still recommend American Home Shield. I've been with them since 2011. They're easily accessible. If anything happens, all I have to do is call American Home Shield or go online since I'm a member and let them know what is happening. Then they send somebody to come fix it for you. You don't have to start looking around for people to fix it.

I've had a handful of claims over the last five years and American Home Shield has always been very responsive. They got the claims taken care of quickly and I'm very happy with them. Recently, the heat was off so I filed a claim and Modern Heating and Air came out that afternoon. The tech was awesome and had a lot of really good advice on the preventative things for the furnace that he didn't have to walk me through. He figured out the issue and got the heating going really quickly.

I was having my furnace cycling on and off a little bit more constantly than it should have been. I called American Home Shield and they got ahold of Schramm. Then they came out and took a look at everything. They cleaned out the furnace and it has been working better than it was since then. I've only had to use American Home Shield for a couple of different claims. But so far, they've been able to get everything taken care of fairly quickly. The claims process is pretty hassle-free. But if you got to make multiple claims at once, you got to call in more than once. You can't just do it all at once, which is a little bit inconvenient if you got more than one problem going on at a time.

American Home Shield has been great. As far as when I've needed any service, they've always been prompt and responsive. As a matter of fact, I've recommended them to a couple of my friends. Redmond's Plumbing is one of their contractors and they came out a couple of times. The first time was an issue with the upstairs heating unit. The tech got that done and we haven't had any problems. With the last call that we had, the bottom unit was not heating at all because it would run on auxiliary for a really long time. When the tech came to check it out, he said there was a leak in the core line and there was nothing that he could do to really fix it because it was going to keep using Freon.
For both claims, techs came within a couple of days and they took a look at the issue. Once they figured out what was going on, they had got everything worked out with American Home Shield and they came back and got everything installed and working. So far, so good. American Home Shield's customer service people have been really helpful. They've answered my questions. I've had a great experience.

American Home Shield's cost is good, the customer service has been professional, and the courtesy of the guys that's been coming out here has been good, too. Sears came for my dryer recently. The guy ran tests on it and we figured that it wasn't the machine itself, but it was something dealing with electrical on the thing. So, I had to change the programming.
As far as the claims process, it seems like you're doing online and then sometimes you have to still call in and talk to someone. When I had something go wrong with my air conditioning unit, I thought it was the air conditioning unit, but it was my Generac that was cutting it off. So, I had an air conditioner dude come out who told me there was nothing wrong, but he said I had to deal with an electrician. So, I was gonna have an electrician come out here, but I ended up calling Generac because we figured out the problems dealing with the Generac module that was there.
Having AHS is beneficial because I can call and don't have to call all the way around and find somebody. We need more technicians, though, inside the Robeson County area because it seemed like all the guys have to come from far off. They have to come from like Fayetteville and Whiteville, which is like 30 or 40 miles away. We don't have anybody that's here in the Robeson County, Lumberton area.

It's been a headache. They send in all the calls to another country. I ask to speak to somebody that speaks English and they send me to somebody else with broken English. I can't understand the people. I'd been wanting to drop AHS a lot of times. But when I finally get around to things to get it done, it's okay. They put in a brand new heating and air unit. Then, it went out again on us a couple of weeks ago. I had to pay another $125 deductible. I shouldn't have to pay any deductible for a brand-new heating and air unit. That wasn't even three months old. But, I went on and paid it because it's cold.
Last time, one representative really got my goat because AHS referred a company, but I said that I didn't want that company out. I called back and this rep was telling me that what is done is done. They cannot refer me to another vendor. I hung up on her and called again. The other representative said, "Sure, I can help you with that," and they changed and got me another vendor.

The experience was less than fulfilling. American Home Shield is unorganized, considering we had an email that said our account was active. We received an email from them that said we were able to immediately request a rekey service and one fix service as needed prior to the accounts being funded on the closing date. After that, additional services would be available. We immediately reached out for the rekey service so we could have the house rekeyed before we moved all of our belongings. However, we were told our policy doesn't begin until 30 days after we close.
We got in touch with our realtor who contacted American Home Shield who came back and said we should be able to get the rekey service right away. By right of way, that turned into we could request it after it had funded, so on the closing date. Once we requested it on the closing date, the first available service from the rekey was one week later so we had to wait about five days for the rekey service. On the day of the rekey service, we got a phone call from the rekey technician that she had car troubles and wasn't going to be able to make it and we'd have to reschedule for another day.
We rescheduled for a day or two later and when the locksmith came, they tried to upsell us all new clocks, which I should have expected but kind of caught us off guard. But they completed the rekey with the original locks and I'm very happy overall with that. We got it for a reasonable price but I would have felt a lot better if I just called up a locksmith myself and said, “Hey, we're closing on this date. Can you meet me there in the afternoon?” It would have been a lot less hassle and faster.

AHS allows homeowners to share in repairs when things arise. My son is a Realtor and he recommends American Home Shield to all of his clients. Recently, I had a refrigerator issue. The tech diagnosed the problem on the first visit. It took a couple of days and they contacted me to tell me that a repair could not be made and that AHS would send me some options. I did the cash reimbursement and we're supposed to get our refrigerator on Wednesday. The process worked very well. Last fall, our dishwasher tore up and that was a little bit more complicated than what this event was. AHS changed the service technicians and that may have been a good thing.

Our heater went out and the tech came the next day. We used him before and he was good about that. He checked the unit upstairs and he thought he knew what was wrong with it, so he went and got a part. He brought the part back in a short period of time and put it in but the part was defective. So, he had to go back and get another one and that part did not work. So, he went back again and got another part. It was the same part every time and that part worked, and he got it all fixed up for us. He did an excellent job.
American Home Shield’s website is easy to navigate through and the only problem is that if you have two things that are in the same part of things to be fixed, you can’t put them both in as part of one trip. You have to do two separate events, which is why whenever there’s more than one, I call them. We had the fiasco with the water heater and it was a nightmare. It took three months to get it resolved but AHS has been prompt and fairly easy to work with.

American Home Shield was very good in terms of turning around the claim. The initial issue was that the dishwasher was leaking a few months after the first vendor fixed it. It fried the motherboard because he didn't close it. But when the second person went out, he said that the dishwasher was pulled out and that wasn't the case. It was a language issue. He put the notes in that the dishwasher was pulled out and he never even touched it. So, when AHS gave me the choice of a second opinion because I disagreed with what the results were, I said yes. If the second opinion was the same as the first, then I would have to pay for it. The guy found the problem when I showed it to him when AHS sent him the next day. I was surprised that AHS approved the claim that night. The guy went in at 12:00 and by 5pm, I had an email saying that the claim was approved with the link where I can go shop.
AHS gave me options for dishwashers. What they gave me was more than what I originally had paid for. I paid for the dishwasher at that time $900 and they valued it at 1,500. I called AHS the next day and told them that these dishwashers were not like any of the ones I had. They forgot to put in that it had a steel tub and it brought it up to $1,500. I could either wait till the one I wanted was available, which could be a while because of the shortage, or I could take a Lowe's gift card, go buy it myself, and know that for the first year it was under the warranty. And I said, "Fine." The Jenn Air that they recommended had a market value of $1,700. It's not available on their website or hasn't been for a while and I wasn't going to wait that long for a dishwasher. I got a Samsung at Lowe's with the gift card. What they did was great.
AHS is great here in the Florida area. I have it on one particular item for my mother in the Boston area. They're way more expensive and the service is a little different but here, it's amazing. I'm still fighting the refrigerator though. It's not in stock on AHS’ website and since they had repaired it twice already, they only gave me $2,700 for it. When I go to Lowe's, because of the shortages, it went up almost $1,000 from the original price tag. So, I'm going back and forth with them to allow me to use the AHS website a lot longer. Every 21 days, I'm calling to extend it. If it's not in by the end of next week, I'm going to take the gift card and buy a cheaper refrigerator, which is not what I want. I want the same one, but it's so much more expensive at Lowe's and it's not in stock.

The hot water, for some reason, I was having leakage problem going underneath there. The tech said it was only that valve or that area that needed to be cleaned. But they gave us a brand-new faucet. We're happy with it. I also put another order for the second sink. But he said, "For some reason, I didn't get the order for it, but I'll take a quick look at it." He took care of that too. It was only the little screw that was stripped out. He went ahead and fixed it, now I've got both things working properly. I'm very happy with AHS. Anything that goes down, AHS takes care of it. They said, "Okay, we're going to transfer this video to whatever," the company who's coming over to fix the range. Perfect. Another time, the techs came for my ice maker and a bathroom faucet that was leaking water constantly for 30 gallons per day. I had to expedite the call several times and they didn't do it. By the time it was already the date for the appointment I was the one who was making the calls after that. It wasn't a good experience to be waiting, transferred here and there, disconnected, and do it again. I never had this experience before because Home Shield used to be excellent three years ago.
It's been going down the drain because I have a couple of friends that have had the same experience. Every time they call, it's like 35 minutes before they get somebody alive. When I had the water leakage, I told the lady, "Can we do a Zoom? That way, you guys can see how priority needs to be." She said, "Oh, no, we don't do that on water leakages." When I have a water leakage, they should do Zoom. That way Home Shield expedites it instead of the customer calling and trying to make things expedited within 24 hours. Where is the priority?

I paid around $900 from my pocket and waited for that particular model. It took nearly six months to get that one, maybe due to the pandemic or a stock issue from the GE side.
Overall, American Home Shield is good. One thing though, if the equipment is old and if I need to upgrade, I don't get that option from American Home Shield. Sometimes what happens is every six months, we are calling for some repair required for that. They come in six months or three months. If the equipment is already very old and need a replacement instead of repair, then it would be better if American Home Shield suggested, “Okay, this is the insurance, you can put. American Home Shield will give selection, $300 or $400 and you can upgrade your equipment.”

American Home Shield has helped out. I did have some issues with them at first. I live in Evansville, Indiana. They were contracting with this guy out of Illinois, and he had a bunch of bad reviews like he wouldn't respond to phone and wouldn't show up to your house. They referred me to him a couple of times and I had problems with him. I had to actually tell them, "Do not refer me to him. Refer me to somebody else 'cause this guy is terrible." A capacitor on the air conditioner went out on me, and that was when AHS referred me to this guy out of Illinois, and I ended up canceling. I just called the heating and air company here in town. I ended up paying like double the price when I shouldn't because I had $100 deductible. It should have been all I had to pay. I ended up paying like $400 to get it fixed because this guy wouldn't return my phone calls. I called him and left several voicemails.
Most recently, Windings came out and they were great. That whole claim process went really smooth. I did the claim online, and the appliance company called me. The lady I talked to on the phone was really nice. The technician was great. We would have had a beer if he didn't have to work. That dude was really cool. He got my stuff fixed right away. For the most part, AHS gives me peace of mind that if something does happen, I've got some coverage on it. So far, nothing major has happened. It's just been little stuff here and there.

The ceiling fan in the master bedroom was acting haywire and making a loud noise and then it stopped. The guy came in. The remote is attached on the wall. So he unscrewed the screws and he wanted to know if there was anything behind it. There was nothing. So then he was working on the fan. He was working on it for a while and then he said the fan was broken. But this fan was brand new. He told me something, and I said, "Are you looking for this?" I closed the door to the bedroom and there's a dimmer by itself.
On one side of the wall, I have a remote that controls the ceiling fan, but then it can be operated on another side of the wall with a dimmer switch. He told me that I was not supposed to have a switch from a dimmer. So he put on a switch. The ceiling fan works now. But I can't use the remote in my master bedroom anymore. So I got a partial fix. I paid 100 bucks to get someone just to tighten some wires and put on a different cover that doesn't have a dimmer on it. I've been pretty pissed that I keep getting emails to review it. The guy told me the remote costs 15 bucks. So it's not very expensive piece, and I don't know why I couldn't have been made whole on my end. But the guy was very nice and courteous. He took off his shoes when he entered my house because I told him I have carpet.

Initially, when it was cold, I was hearing a loud boom from the heating unit and I Googled it. It said that it could potentially have something to do with combustion. So, I had the contractor come out and look at it but that was not the ultimate problem. The heating unit is running but when I had discussions with them, they talked about some carbon monoxide leaking and that's concerning to me. I was waiting to get an email from them but I haven’t checked in a while to see if they had sent me anything back. So, I need to check my email. But I haven't heard from them.
American Home Shield is very responsive and I like that. But they don't have the ability to tailor your home warranty necessarily to your needs. Once you're with them, you can make a phone call but when you're getting ready to sign up with them, it's difficult to communicate with anybody. You do it online and it’s not easy when you're signing up to get ahold of somebody and ask any questions.

We really liked American Home Shield in the beginning. But the service last year was not that great. We had a claim for the water heater and it took them forever going back and forth. It took forever to get the report and then have it settled. We were thinking of things to cash out, and what would that be. I had to go back and forth so many times, and they still couldn’t get through. The water heater that they gave us to cash out was only 400. But the water heater is expensive now. There was another claim that took them forever to get the report and the parts. My tenants were without a stove for three months, which was really bad. My husband didn't like that. The AHS reps went over all the details that would be in my policy. Even though I went over them that day, I didn't really understand them fully until I moved into my house and then started needing things. When I called them back, they were really eager to help me go over it, piece by piece again, to make sure that I understood everything that my warranty went. This is my first time buying a home, so I really didn't get it at first.
I called them earlier this week because I had some things that I needed to have done. They were more than helpful, making sure I knew exactly what my policy covered if I needed to pay anything additional, if I didn't, and how many warranties I can have on top of that warranty. I had something done this weekend. Even though the person fixed it in 10 minutes, he said that I had a 30-day warranty on that repair. So if something happened within 30 days, he would come back and fix it for free.
I also had HVAC work done. I just went online and picked which system I needed worked on. I have a debit card linked for my service fee and then while I was still on the website, they texted me and said, “This has been assigned.” The first guy called me before I even got off the internet website. The second guy called me the next day. It was really simple. However, there was an additional fee for Freon for our HVAC unit that I didn’t understand in the policy. There was a cap. They could only put this much, and then he needed more. I would just like to have known about that ahead of time.

I was taken aback with the whole, “Oh, if we can't repair it, we'll replace it,” scenario when American Home Shield advertises. They kept sending different companies out for my refrigerator. Premier was the last company that finally said it needed to be replaced. But it's either I spend $10,000 to replace my refrigerator or wait and pay 3,500 through AHS because they have a discount with the manufacturers. If I go through them I only have to pay $3,100. When I decided to get a small refrigerator, I was under the impression that I'll be able to get a refrigerator within two months. But it's been since July and AHS doesn't have any inventory. It's forcing my hand to spend the additional money to replace my refrigerator because AHS only wants to give me a check for $3,000 when my refrigerator is 11,000.
I've been thinking, is AHS even worth it? At the end of the day, for the amount of money that I'm paying, I could have replaced my refrigerator. So I'm not a happy camper when it comes to this whole situation because I'm left and they say, "Okay, call back." I've been calling back so often to the point where I just have AHS on my phone to redial and still I have no refrigerator.
When AHS is soliciting, they should be more open with saying, “First of all, what type of home are you living in? If you live in a million-dollar home, you may want to have this coverage to cover you in the event that your refrigerator goes out or your stove goes out, that you'll have the right amount to be able to replace." My other home is more modest. There, it makes more sense for the coverage I have because the appliances aren’t high-end. But in this house, I have a Viking stove and to replace that is 12 grand. If my coverage is not adequate, AHS should say, “We need to clarify that if something goes out, based on the coverage that you have, you should have this level of coverage.” That needs to be discussed when these things are being sold to customers so that they understand that if something goes wrong, they are not going to have the coverage to cover it. Let them make a decision based on that information.

My problem started out as an intermittent issue with our heat system. It worked, but would appeared to have difficulty igniting the natural gas on the first try. American Home Shield did respond quickly with a contractor who arrived on time and was able to duplicate the problem and made a diagnostic decision, but had to order a part.
The next day another technician from the same company arrived with the part, but informed us he had to perform his own diagnostics before he would be willing to install it. He eventually installed the part and quickly left without verifying his work. My heat has not worked at all since then. It has now been 11 days and the same contractor has sent different techs out at least five times, but the system still does not work. Apparently the contractor has diagnostic techs and installers, but not someone who can do both, so we have to make arrangements to be there for diagnostics and then for whenever they can schedule us for the install team.
Multiple nights in the 20's since this started. Several conversations with the contractor's office have convinced me they are not capable and they demonstrate no urgency to remedy this situation. American Home Shield is aware of our situation/frustration and have been absolutely useless. They refuse to replace the contractor and also show zero urgency about helping us. Since being made aware, AHS has not even bothered to contact us to see if there is any improvement. I wish I could rate AHS and their contractor at a zero, because they have not earned any stars.

With a home, you never know when something is gonna come up, so it's always good to have, especially when you don't have to pay a large amount. I had two claims with the American Home Shield. One was regarding some plumbing issues and I gave one guy a horrible review. He was rude and not very pleasant. When he came to the door, he said, “I hear you got a leaky faucet.” But I said, “No, we have a plugged up drain,” which was an entirely different problem. Then he came in and wanted to attribute the problem to something that wasn't covered. I suspected that he knew what wasn't going to be covered. He tried to talk me into accepting the fact that the reason the water wouldn't go down the drain was that it had a negative slope on it of about two degrees. But I showed him the situation and that had absolutely nothing to do with it. If he didn't know that it didn't have anything to do with it, he shouldn't be a plumber. But he insisted and said, “Well, I'm going to file a report.”
He filed a report and American Home Shield called us back. They said according to our contract, if the problem is what the plumber claimed it was, it was not covered. But I told them that he was wrong in diagnosing the problem and then I insisted upon having another opinion. Then they told me that if the second guy comes back with the same opinion, then I was going to be charged another $100. So we had to pay $100 to get anybody even to come out.
The second guy came out and he was very friendly and talkative. He diagnosed the problem, and he said that it was not the slope of the line drain between the sink and the wall. He said it has nothing to do with it. He ran a snake down there and cleared it out. He was gone in less than an hour with about a half an hour of that time spent convincing himself that the drain was open. He ran water and ran water and ran water, and then he filled up the whole sink and pulled the plug and it was sucking with a little vortex as the water does as it goes down the drain. He did a great job. We haven’t had any trouble with it since. I gave him an excellent review.
For the thermostat issue, the guy that came out was very friendly and professional. He had to change the thermostat because it was frozen. He looked at the options that he had and I said, “Look, I don't want to have to change the faceplate on my wall because then I got to add spackle and paint and do a whole bunch of stuff." He took that into consideration and chose a unit that seems to be working perfectly well. He fixed it with one encounter. He called his manager to make sure that the one that he was chosen was okay and the guy gave him a green light. He installed it and I gave him a good review, too.

My AC unit was blowing inside but not outside so the air wasn't cooling. The technician came out when he said he would and was professional. The tech was also friendly and communicated when he was stuck in traffic just to give me a good idea of what time he was going to arrive. He let me know he had to order the part and said he'd be in contact with me. He was messaging me today to let me know that he was still waiting for the part and that they’re hopeful it comes in tomorrow. So I haven't felt like I don't know what's going on in the process. The job is technically not done, although it was closed in the system. But once that part comes in, he’ll either come back tomorrow or early next week to fix everything.
With AHS, no matter what time I notice something goes wrong, I can initiate a claim in real time online and that's the easiest thing about having them. I'm not sure if they are available via phone 24/7 but at least I know that I can get that claim submitted. And so far, I've always been able to hear back within 24 hours about at least when a technician would be coming. I'd also recommend them because of the speed in which issues are able to be resolved or at least put in process, if there ends up being something that has to be ordered. And so far, I haven't had an issue with any technician who has come out and thankfully, even though I keep having technicians come out, the prices haven't been too egregious.

In the past, like most people, you just called that plumber that you always used, or you just called whomever. And that worked out okay. Because in many cases, they remembered you, your equipment, etc. And I have had several independent contractors say that they would go with one of the home warranty companies because they were not paid enough. And I get that. But I haven’t always been satisfied with the technicians that come out, as far as what they are able to do. I tried to get the same company. If it's a plumbing issue, the same plumber. And I do not use American Home Shield for heating and air conditioning. I use another company that's not with them that I used for many years. I had one call with American Home Shield, and they diagnosed the issue, but the price was extraordinary. It was a damper. So, I called the other company, and their price was half.
I call in and I get a text message or an email. They give me the name and telephone number and I just call them. If I don’t, they will set up an appointment. Or they will call me, etc. A year or two ago, we had to replace the kitchen faucet. And we did. Then the handle started falling off, because there was something that was missing or it fell out. But that was way beyond the time. It was more than a year. So the contractor came out, they fixed it, and they found something else, which was not really important. Underneath the sink, there is a magnet that causes that sprayer to flip back up into the faucet. And the tech said, “I have to order this, etc.” And I thought, “No, forget it. It’s okay.” So, he didn’t. They were fine. We had a couple of calls where they just didn’t get it right the first time. And it wasn't their problem. It had to do with a toilet. And eventually, they replaced the whole interior. But it was three visits.
The guys there are at GE Appliances are fantastic and timely. But I had an issue with the refrigerator. The tech came out three or four times. And he said, “Well, the issue could be X, Y, Z, and it was something huge on the refrigerator. But I don’t think that’s gonna be approved.” But he did come out three times, and they eventually resolved the issue.

I paid Home Shield for some work on my garage. The claim process was okay. The tech knew what he was doing and what he looked at. I didn't know that a spring had broken and I had to pay that out-of-pocket because AHS doesn't cover it. Seeing that the spring was broken the tech suggested that I get two because if not, the other one is gonna break. He was really thorough in explaining stuff.
Another time, the dryer went out and AHS fixed that as well. They're good. They repair stuff and they explain it all at the same time. So, I appreciate it.

DNG came out for my refrigerator claim and they were okay. It’s American Home Shield I have issues with. They had made a number of mistakes. They are very slow in responding to anything. I’m still dealing with them. It’s been a nightmare. I’m very disappointed.

My unit wasn't heating. I set the appointment, and I got a notice from Home Shield. A text and email said to reach out to this company. AHS should make it more obvious that the customer who has Home Shield should be calling to contact as opposed to contacting through Home Shield. It wasn't very obvious, and if I hadn't read through the email, I wouldn't have noticed it. So, I called them and talked to them before they came out. They were awesome and the issue was fixed in about an hour. Overall, it was good.

I sent the claim in for the compressor and the contractor fixed the problem but it caused another problem. Now, the compressor is kicking on and off. But the techs were great. They did most of the work outside. I was at work so somebody else was here but they were professional. They came when they were supposed to, on time and did everything they said they were going to do. I like getting my stuff fixed but American Home Shield went up from $50 to $80 because I keep having claims. But I love just calling somebody and not have to worry about it. I recommend AHS because I've had good luck with them so far.
