My only complaint is they changed what's covered as far as for my needs. When I started with them, it was agreed that they would cover the ice maker because I don't have a garage door or a garbage disposal and so I was like, “Can we do that?”. They said, "Yes" but over the years somehow that got wiped out and I can't get it back in. When I realized that there was a problem with my icemaker, I found out that that had been removed from my policy. And I'm like, “But, but, but…”
With the exception of one company with whom I had a hard time getting through to because they were bombarded with calls, I've always gotten a rapid response from whoever AHS sends out. I cannot think of any who have not been polite and courteous and who did not work with me. The biggest claim we had was when we had to replace the water heater. That was an ordeal because I had to bring the house up to code. I had to put in a chimney liner and run some new venting. Plus, I had to add an expansion tank.
But the plumbing company that AHS sent for the water heater helped me get in touch with a chimney company that gave me the best price. They worked with the plumbing company so they had it to where everything was a go and we said, “Yes, we want to do this,”. The chimney company came in at 10:00 in the morning, was done by 11:30, and they scheduled with the plumbing company to come in at 12:30 and do the hot water heater. By 3:00, I was done with everything. The plumbing company coordinated everything. So, the chimney got lined, the new vents were run, and then the plumbing company came in. It was awesome.
Another time, there was a problem with my washer and the dishwasher upstairs, and the contractor AHS sent was very good. They were very attentive. The gentleman explained everything to me and had both appliances fixed quickly. With the warranty, sometimes I'm paying premiums every month and I end up paying out more than I get back. But the convenience of making one phone call, paying a premium, and not having to worry about a thousand other things pays off in the long run.
The upstairs of my house is a two-bedroom apartment and my policy is under the duplex. So I pay for two washers and dryers, two refrigerators, two of everything. I had a situation where the AC of one of the tenants upstairs went out. All I had to do was call AHS and they were able to get it all arranged. It cost me $200 out of pocket and that was just the disposal of the old unit. Coming up with those expenses at the drop of a hat can be stressful. The warranty takes that stress out.
Thanks for sharing your AHS experience. Please let us know if you need assistance in regards to your warranty.

I've got two heat pumps and gas furnaces, and the second floor unit was not blowing warm air. So, we called that in on the warranty. I was upstairs when the contractor messed with it. They had to replace some parts and I also mentioned to him I had intended on calling American Home Shield about my electrical heat pump in my bedroom. It's sort of wide and it's a wall unit. It has half of it outside and half of it on the inside where the controls are.
The tech checked it out and he came back sooner than later with the correction to the second-floor heat pumps/gas furnace. It was cold and it took a little while but it didn't bother me because I told him that it wasn't an emergency. I needed to have it fixed though because my first-floor unit can't very long handle heating the whole house. He fixed the second-floor unit in a reasonable time and told me that they were going to have to order a new unit for the wall unit. It was old. He and the same helper put it in. I was happy with the service. I was a little surprised though when he told me that they didn't finish out the unit in the wall. Apparently, the unit was a little smaller than the original hole so, there was a bit of a gap. So I had some backer rod that I gave him and they stuck it in there. I'll finish the rest myself maybe in the summer. But all in all, it was a good service.
American Home Shield costs me about $700 now but I like having that peace of mind that if something goes wrong that cost more than that, they’ll help cover the cost. So I'm happy to pay $700 although I haven't gotten my monies back. The total amount of work that I've had done on the warranty is 40% of what I paid them over the years. I'm happy with AHS. If I were to talk to people, particularly people buying an older home as I had and it’s a big property, I would tell them to pay $700 a year and that for the most part, AHS covered most of the expenses. They’re straightforward. There are a few things that they don't cover. For example, when I first bought the policy, they didn’t cover either refrigerators or garage doors, but they do that now.
I bought some high-end kitchen appliances, Thermador and I was a little concerned about whether or not AHS would cover work on it or even do a replacement. My oven is a combination microwave, convection oven, and heating oven, and the guy that came out confessed he hadn't done a whole lot of work on Thermador. But he had been doing a little research and he worked with American Home Shield to get the Thermador part. He came back, put it in and it has worked perfectly ever since. So, I was quite happy that they covered the work on that expensive appliance. I would’ve been disappointed if they said they don't work on those. I would also recommend Anthony who most recently did some work for me. He’s been here a couple of times and he’s a straightforward guy.

We started hearing a noise in the refrigerator and an issue with the ice machine started. Within the day, the techs came out and fixed it, so I was pretty happy with the whole process with AHS. It was straightforward and everything was communicated very well. That experience solidified my purchase because I was hesitant on how quick they would process a claim. Hopefully, it'll continue that way with any other future issues we have.

Hansen Mechanical did great. Since they were closed on Sunday, we didn't get ahold of them until Monday. We ended up having someone else come out to get our heat running again for a little bit. But our control board was frying out. They came out, checked it over and agreed with the other people that it needed to be replaced. If anything happens with our heating or air, we're gonna request Hansen to come back out and look at it. They were extremely polite. They came in and got the job done in a day, once our furnace showed up.
American Home Shield has been fairly easy to talk to. We've told a couple people that they've done real good for us. We used to have someone else last year, and it was like pulling teeth getting them to do anything. We switched to American Home Shield, and it's been extremely easy to call up somebody, tell them what happened, and they'd say they'd get someone out there right away. Usually, within that day or the next morning, I'm getting an email saying someone's gonna be there to check my stuff on a specific date. We had a little bit of snafu with our dishwasher at one point, but that was because parts came in broken so it wasn't their fault. It worked out in the end.

The service of AHS has been helpful. I feel that in some of the places that we use, they come and do their job, but when there's definitely something wrong with our electrical, I've called multiple times about it. Turner Electric came out. The last two times, the electrician told us we have to pay 300 bucks to replace some stuff. We could've just called Turner Electric ourselves and paid the $300 ourselves and not even paid the extra 75 or even go through what we went through. But when Budget Rooter came, they were good and they fixed the toilet. That stoppage was also covered.
I apologize for the inconvenience. We will have an associate reach out to you about your experience.

The sump pump started leaking from one of the pipes and it flooded part of our basement. We were able to get it mitigated. M & E came in and replaced the sump pump and identified the problem as well. Everything’s working perfectly now and we’re very happy with it. The contractor knew what they were doing. They showed the problem, communicated it and handled it. American Home Shield was super easy on the claim side. It’s awesome. Going in as a homeowner, you know what you're getting but you don't know how it's been taken care of. So, it helps with that mind frame.

The people who are on the phone are nice and helpful. But AHS needs better vendors. The vendors are terrible. They don't respond in time. Some don't show up. You just can't get them out there. We've had plumbing problems. It took them days to get out while we have a backed-up toilet. So, we've had to stay in a hotel. Another plumber has come and looked at our washing machine. They did a temporary fix. Now, I need them to come back. But I haven't heard from this vendor yet since Friday, so I’m gonna have to call them again today. It’s just frustrating that I have to keep calling these vendors to get them to come out ‘cause I don't think they wanna work with warranty companies. They just put us at the back of the line if you call from a home warranty company. But we've had a few claims with AHS that went smoothly. Somebody looked at our stove and that was fine. The microwave was fine, too.

We requested service for the refrigerator, and it can't be fixed. The freezer doesn't freeze all the time. It keeps thawing and freezing, so they've put in for a replacement. I've talked to American Home Shield's office a couple of times. We bought a new refrigerator, and I sent an email with the invoice of what we bought. The rep said that they were going to reimburse. They knew that we didn't know how long we were going to get the fridge, but at least we have the invoice and we have paid for it. I don't know when we'll get the check, but that should be in the works. Overall, American Home Shield offers a bit of insurance and peace of mind if a couple of things go at the same time, that I don’t have that big an outlay. I always end up having to pay more, but it seems to work that way. Plus, they seem to send good people to come and fix things.

Fort Bend was the first people that came out for our washer but they weren’t able to fix it. The guy from the Fort Bend Appliance came out three times. The first time, he fixed it with a refurbished part. It worked, but something was wrong with it. When the new part came in, he came in and replaced it. We called them back and told them the washer was still doing the same thing. They said, “My technician has done all he can do.” So, AHS sent somebody else out for a second opinion. That guy said, “They had left a wire that was supposed to be connected unconnected.” He fixed that. I did laundry yesterday. I did two loads, which is two cycles and it went through all the cycles and appeared to be working.
Sometimes, it’s an easy process to file the claims with AHS. Sometimes, it’s a headache. Some of them have to come back more than once. I don't think they put much effort into repairing what needs to be repaired, ‘cause I had the same issue with my AC. Somebody came out, took a look at it and said, “We've done what we can do.” Then somebody else came out and said, “Oh, it’s fixed.” Then the next person came out, said, “No, this is what's wrong.” And they fixed it and I didn't have any issues. But AHS is good to have because it saves you money. Having an AC repair, that's gonna cost a whole lot more than paying the $75 for them to come out for them to fix it. The downside of it is, you’re on their time. They have to come when they're available and then you have to deal with, the first go-around, it may not be fixed.

AHS is employing good contractors. I've had a couple of issues with my heat pump and they've fixed it. They're working on a microwave for me today. The contractor has been great. I like their new tool, the video. So they didn't have to come to the house for the first appointment. We did it all over their link. I showed them what was wrong with the microwave and they listened to it. They knew exactly what was wrong with it.
With AHS, Every time I've requested for service, I've heard from someone within 24 hours. Also, I'm really pleased with how much I pay them. With the service I get with the warranty, I have no complaints whatsoever. I've referred a couple of people to them.

I called AHS back again, talked to somebody on Friday morning, and he said somebody would call me within 24 hours, but still haven’t heard anything. I pay AHS monthly, and then when the serviceman comes out, I got to give $100 to the service person, that’s a part of the contract, but with this last appointment for my garbage disposal, they charged me $80 extra. They said that’s in the contract, that they do that sometimes. She told me that’s in a lot of other AHS contractors’ contracts.
The techs were able to get out there quickly. But I was just having a dilemma because I didn't understand this extra $80. It took me a few days to ask questions. I called AHS. I wanted to talk to a supervisor, but I kept talking to these foreign people that answers the phone. But they didn't have any kind of information to give me why I have to pay the $80.
It’s working well. However, I bought a brand new garbage disposal, and it's got the cap that goes on it and he didn't put the new cap on. He said, “You don't need a new cap. You put a new cap on it, I'm gonna have to charge you more because that means I got to do extra work.” I said, “But isn’t that a part of doing the whole job?” He said, “Yeah. But your sealing around your cap is okay.” I said, “I know it’s okay. But I purchased a new disposal, I should put all new stuff in.” But he told me in order to do that, it would be more. I would recommend AHS, but I was not too satisfied with the last deployment for the garbage disposal. But we had an ice maker repaired and the guy who did that did a real good job. He was in there, got it taken care of, and it was finished. He didn’t charge me extra money.

I tried the reset button on the bottom and all kinds of things but none of that worked. So I sent in a claim and then the contractor let me know they were on their way. They got here and they got it fixed in no time. I also had Home Shield replace my kitchen faucet once. The tech ran to Home Depot and then came back and did it right away. Overall, Home Shield has been wonderful. We've been happy with them. Depending on the contractor that they choose, sometimes the process takes longer than I'd like. But it's never been a huge issue. If you need something fixed nowadays, it’s expensive. AHS makes it easier to call someone in and get a technician to your house. It's cheaper too. Last year, I had a problem with them with my AC. The first technician they sent said that we needed to change the whole thing. He left and never gave an answer. So I fought with American Home Shield for a little bit. Scott from Young Mechanicals came in and he fixed the AC. That was the reason I kept American Home Shield because I found this guy. For my recent claim, my furnace was turning off. I guess it had some mice outside, so I’m cleaning. Some cables were not conducting very well. The tech switched the cables and now it's been turning on normally. Everything's great so far. Three weeks ago when someone fixed my garbage disposal, he brought a friend whom I thought was his co-worker and they stole $460 out of my purse. I called at least four times and asked AHS to put that in my notes and have a manager call me back but no one has called me back. The same thing happened with my washer which was semi-working. I had to fill it up with water 'cause it didn't fill all the way to the large load. The techs didn't fix it and they tried to leave before they even made sure the washer was working. They said, "Oh, we need another part." The tech did something and now my washer doesn't work at all. I even asked him to speak to his manager because he was insisting that there was nothing he could do. And I'm like, "Well, sir, if you can't fix it, then aren't you guys supposed to replace it?" And he was like, "No. That's not a fixable thing."
So, I asked him, "Is there a card I could have? Is there a manager I can talk to?" He was so reluctant to give me his name. I also asked for his badge and he said he didn't have one. I was fed up. He said he was gonna make the appointment for the 29th. So, I have to wait until then. I'm extremely disappointed with American Home Shield. One of the dampers was not working properly so the heat built up and turned the furnace off. Sirius Plumbing & Air had to replace some sort of part. They said the repair was not done and they were ordering the part. But when I called American Home Shield, the ticket had been closed. It was a little weird. But the tech came back out that day with the part and finished the repair. Sirius was a great provider.

My unit is getting up there in age, and American Home Shield has the highest coverage for full replacement, which I'm expecting within the next few years. So far, so good. We are getting all the text messages very timely. We're in the process of utilizing the service for an AC issue. When the contractor came out, I liked them. I was happy with the service that the technician offered me. Right now, we are waiting on a part. It's been two weeks and I don't think that's their fault, but we're getting a little frustrated on why it's taking so long to get this part in.

Everything's been fine with American Home Shield until this time around. I am trying to get a dryer repaired. It's been three weeks now. A part was ordered and supposedly, that request went through but it was not received or it could not be found the very first time. I tried again because I didn't get the parts here at home. American Home Shield put the request in again and GE, which sends out the parts, could not find that request. Today they're having an IT issue and that's the reason that I still don't have a dryer. I'm not too thrilled with that. It's a vendor thing that has to be worked on. I called in February and now, I'm gonna have to wait another week. This is ridiculous.

It was a emergent situation, and American Home Shield was able to get Prime Plumbing to come out within a couple of hours from when I submitted the claim. I had a significant hot water pipe burst in the walls near my hot water heater. They were able to get the damaged piece extracted and replaced within a short amount of time. They were extremely helpful. There were two of them that showed up. They were very attentive to the problem and very informative as they were diagnosing and troubleshooting all of the issues. They were able to get in and out in a pretty good timeline, which was in less than an hour. Working with American Home Shield for this particular deal was efficient and Prime Plumbing did a great job at addressing the issue.
For the most part, American Home Shield has been decent about providing the coverage on the warranty. I've had a couple of issues where it wasn't clear what the coverage extended to because it was a little bit general in the contract. This instance with Prime Plumbing worked out well but the instance I had in my last plumbing issue did not. There was some work that needed to be done, and the contractor that was working in my home needed to get additional approval, which took over a week for them to get back to me. For that time, I had no water in my home.
With American Home Shield, you just can't just fire and forget. Originally, they would give me a selection of contractors that I could work with. That way, I would be able to do a Google search on them and figure out who is it that has the best reputation. But they have since done away with that. Once you submit a claim, be very diligent in making sure that the claim gets addressed. If it's an emergent situation or you get assigned a contractor and they don't have a good reputation, stay heavily engaged. American Home Shield doesn't do everything. They just are facilitators, and you still have to be involved with the process.

My first claim with American Home Shield was good. But with my second claim, they were just tacking on a lot of fees. I'm confused about why that was not covered. I'm hoping that I'm spending my home warranty is going to be worth it. I need a new water heater. The contractor was saying that there are limitations and there are other modifications that need to happen in order for something to go in. I'm trying to understand why all this is necessary. They were saying, “Now you need a new pipe. And now you need a new this and this. And that's gonna cost you $100 here, $100 this. It's gonna come out to $1,100.” American Home Shield is not paying for that. I thought the whole point was that that's covered because I'm paying a nice amount every month to my home warranty. That's a little bit frustrating. Maybe it's because I'm a new homeowner so I'm not as familiar.
Also, the person you talk to when you have these things should have the information ready. They should expect that a customer is gonna ask basic questions. When I asked what the other options were if we are not going to use the contractor, I was told they have cash options. I asked how much the cash was going to be and the rep didn't have that information. Right now, I'm in the thick of it and I have to spend that money. I can't have this drag on. There’s a water heater that is gonna leak in my basement and I'm gonna have more damage. I asked the rep, “Can you give me a list of all the things that you’re saying are needed and how much they would cost? And what the brand is of the water heater they're going to use.” She said that was gonna have to come from the contractor.
I got this email today and American Home Shield is making me choose an option. They're making me make a decision in 10 days. But I don't have the information in order for me to make an educated decision. They haven't given me the information that I would use. It’s been 24 hours and I haven't gotten a list of the stuff. I was given two options. One is to replace with a contractor. The other is reimbursement and that's up to $870, which is crazy. That is not going to get me a water heater. If American Home Shield is gonna give me a number, they should give one that makes sense. I'm not going to find a good contract to replace it for under 800. On the whole, a company has to have a good business model in order to be worthwhile. At the minimum, I would want good service right away so we can make efficient productive phone calls and decisions instead of having to wait and not put pressure on me to make and give them an answer.

My experience with American Home Shield is terrible. I had leaks in my laundry room from my pipe and my master bedroom faucet, and my garbage disposal was not working. I called American Home Shield and paid my $100. A plumber came out but never looked at my garbage disposal. He went down in the basement and looked at the laundry room. But when I called, I told him there was a leak in my pipe. He never looked at that. When he went back, he said he was going outside but would come back in. He turned my water off, never came back in, and left my water off.
When I called Top Notch Plumbing back, they said that they had to call American Home Shield and get authorization. I waited and waited but they never called back. When I got a email from American Home Shield saying that they denied the guy, they said something was stuck in it. I asked how was something stuck when he never even looked at it? For the laundry room faucet, they denied that because one of the handles was broken. That was fine but the leak in my laundry room was not coming from the basement, it was coming from the pipes. He took a picture of that and they never even mentioned anything about that. I asked them for a second opinion and I've been waiting for the second opinion from Mays Plumbing since.
Last year was the first time I used American Home Shield for my air conditioner. Their contractor came out about three or four times but it never was completely fixed it. Also, whatever they did with the air conditioner messed up the furnace. They had to come back to that. When you call, you can't get anyone but someone out of the country. I've been waiting for a supervisor to call me, but I haven't gotten that. My water bill is $3,600 and I'm paying American Home Shield a service. They don't have a problem with taking my money, but they have a problem with coming taking care of my issues. I have my pipes and everything that's covered. At this point, I'm gonna get my lawyer involved. I don't understand how they are still in business.

AHS has been working out great for us. We call the 800 number to file a claim and they get back to us and set us up with a contractor. We usually get an email and a phone call from the contractor. Then we set up an appointment for us to meet and get it done. We had the air conditioner problem and AHS sent out somebody to look at it. The motor on the unit outside needed repair and the gentleman didn't have it but he went and searched through a couple of warehouses in town. He found it that same day and came out and repaired it. The next one, I lost a fan or a flap in the back of the refrigerator and everything was freezing in the top. AHS sent out Mr. Service to repair that. The tech knew what the problem was right away and they ordered the parts. It took a couple of days for the parts to come in, but he took everything apart and put it back together in about 30 minutes. American Home Shield has always been pretty fast to respond, and the contractors that they send have always been professional and got the job done right, whether it's for plumbing, electricity or even work on the well. I have a residential well, and these people show up. They're efficient, know what they're doing, and teach me a few things. Everybody's happy.
I dropped Sears in favor of Home Shield a long time ago. I compared the two, and even though Sears' guys knew what they were doing, they were slow. Some of them had to come from 70 miles away. With Home Shield, they're all local fellows of good repute and they come in and do the job. I would recommend them. In fact, I have them covering two homes. Home Shield covers the home I have in Texas, as well as the one here in Arizona, where I live full time.

The contractors get out pretty quick usually. A couple of years ago, I had a claim when it seemed that it took a while before they got out. They had to order parts and I had to wait again. This last time wasn't so bad. One tech came for the washer and one for the dishwasher. Both of the guys knew what they were doing. One guy had to order some parts, but he got them within a week or so, which wasn’t a problem for the appliance because it was still usable. The other guy fixed the problem when he got here. That was good.
The coverage is good so far and they've taken care of everything that needed to be taken care of. But AHS should not have so much time in between when the issue is reported to when it's actually fixed. The last two times were fine. But the time before that, it was a pretty slow process.

In our recent claim with AHS, the garbage disposal seemed to be leaking. A young man came out and he fixed it. It was fine. But previous to that, we had a toilet that wasn't set right. The plumbing and the pipe seemed to be loosened up. We called American Home Shield, and they sent out Plumbers Inc. and the same young man as the last time came out. He said that the pipe had to be sheared, cut a little bit, and they'd have to put a different collar on it. He fixed it temporarily, but he needed to get parts. It was an additional charge to do what he needed to do. They called American Home Shield, and they denied it. I had to pay $185 out of pocket, after I already paid $75 for the service call for my deductible.
I tried to call American Home Shield to resolve this to see why they denied it. But I got a runaround. I couldn't talk to a supervisor. I could only talk to the call center, and God knows where that is. I was aggravated. But right at the moment, I don't have time to shop for a new company to pay my insurance to. So we let it go for now. But we've had AHS since April of '19 in this unit. We had just moved in. We got that for a year from the previous owner. We made the claim on a Saturday and the company wasn't required to respond 'til Monday. But the techs didn't get out 'til Thursday so we were without water for five days. During that time, we also found that water was leaking from our ceiling from this. So, we shut off the water. Once the techs got out, it was a quick and easy fix for the leaking showers. American Home Shield is 100% better than our previous provider. I wanted things looked at and my previous provider wanted to see inspections of the house before I bought it. It was just ridiculous. It seemed like they wanted a reason to not have to pay. I stopped using them completely as it was a waste of money. We started with American Home Shield in January because I moved into a new house and they've been great. When we moved in, we had appliances here and we had no idea if they were working or not. They looked like they were until we went to use them and found out there was something wrong with them.
We've had somebody out here three times with American Home Shield. One call alone would have equalled what the one-year payment was. We get plenty of calls and notifications when somebody's coming. The only thing I have a problem with was when our refrigerator needed to be repaired. It was canceled four times. They told us the day before that they wouldn't be coming. That took a month. A guy came out today. When I had called a month ago, we had a fan in the back that was making a lot of noise. If it was something that really affected the refrigerator more than it did, I would have called American Home Shield and complained about it.
Other than that, I've been really happy. Since the repair, the fan stopped making the noise. The tech ordered six parts of the fan stuff because it was frozen. The techs I've had have been professional and clean. They're very knowledgeable, polite and friendly. When the guy came out for the washer, he offered to clean the dryer for me. It was $50, which was fine. It's nice that they offer that little extra when they're here. I'm gonna go ahead and sign up for the home warranty next year again.

So we called Fast Response Heating because they said that they did a 30-day warranty on any work that they did. They came out again and figured out that the entire system had failed, which we were expecting was going to happen at some point because it was almost 45 years old. But they didn’t make parts for it anymore. Fast Response Heating decided the unit needed to be replaced two days ago and then we got our new system put in yesterday.
Fast Response Heating was great. They’ve answered all the questions we had. They explained everything to me. They told us something about our outside unit that no one had told us. We have large dogs, one of which is a male that likes to pee on everything, and him peeing on the old outside unit started corroding the coils inside of the system, which I didn't even know was a thing. So they showed us that, explained it all, and told us different ways that we could make it so the dog can't get to the outside unit so it doesn't happen to the new one. I have the tech guys’ cell phone number. So if I have any issues or questions about maintenance or filters, they can answer them. They've been super, super helpful.

When I called them for the air condition, I had to pay $107 for the contractor to come out and when they came out, they really didn't do anything. They didn't charge me anything for that but they didn't fix what the problem really was. Then, they took out $80 from my checking account to keep the warranty. The most recent claim I did was for a garbage disposal that went out. I've worked with L&B twice, and I really like the tech. He’s very nice. My only suggestion would be to give customers more control over who comes to their house. In the past, I've had American Home Shield, and we had some really bad experiences with some pretty low-quality workmanship. So, it would be nice to be able to have a choice of people and that I could look them up and pick who I feel most comfortable with rather than just having someone sent to the house.

It took them a couple of days because they had to order all the equipment. But they were here initially within one or two days and they were here on time. The job took them right up to the estimated time they thought and they didn't stop working. They pushed through until it was finished. We had an older system. There was a leak with our AC that they found. They also fixed that, which is what took a little bit of time. A motion sensor kitchen sink's battery pack started leaking water. I submitted a claim with AHS through the internet and the contractor called me the next day. Then, the techs came in to diagnose it and it turned out that they had to replace the entire system because they don't make the battery pack anymore for that whole thing. They gave me two options. They said I could call Moen because they do a lifetime replacement, or they were going to give me some other manufacturer. I chose to go with Moen and ordered the thing immediately. I got it in three days, then I called the plumbing company back. But nobody followed up and there was a long wait. I left a message then somebody called me back and gave me an appointment the next day. But nobody showed up, so I called back and they sent somebody the next day to install it. The one who came did a very good job and overall, it took eight days to get my claim finally resolved.

Another thing is when they come out, everything is good for 30 days but after that, I gotta pay again. And I have to give my credit card upfront before they even come out. But I'd recommend AHS. They usually send somebody within 48 hours. USA Plumbing came out recently and everything was fine. They got the repair done real quick.

Every time someone's come out, it's been really quick. They’re in and out. People need a warranty on their house, and the amount of service that I get from American Home Shield is pretty decent.

I called American Home Shield because my garbage disposal was not working. The guy came out, looked at it, and determined that it needed to be replaced. But it was taking them a while and nothing was going down in my sink and it was smelling. I called somebody else to take a look at it for me and when they came, they fixed it. Then, I called American Home Shield back and told them they don't need to order a replacement because I already had it fixed. I told them the contractor they sent out misdiagnosed the issue and asked if they could at least reimburse me the $75 service fee but they said no. They finally said they would see if somebody could review it and they haven't reached back. I'm disappointed.

I had American Home Shield on a rental house, and now on my personal place. I had plumbing issues a while back and they resolved it. It was also great with Xigent Appliance Repair. They found the problem on the washer and fixed it. The only thing that was unfortunate -- and I kept getting a phone call from another country to try to follow through because she could never get the answer -- is I have a heat pump, and it wasn't clear when I bought the service that that wasn't covered for any services. That was disappointing when that wasn't clear because that's my source of much of my heat and cooling. Many people are getting these. They're called splits and this is a Daikin. This thing that lets the heater cold is up in the ceiling then there's a heat pump outside.

Tom Melton Services was very professional and explained everything. When we got all that heavy rain, a drain in the floor in my basement backed up. The plumber come out. He tried plunging at first, and it broke it loose. But we were running water through the pipes to make sure it wasn't leaking, and I looked over and told him, "Isn't that leaking on the wall?" He said it was and he took pictures of everything that was there and where it was leaking. When he went back, he told them they needed another work order so they could come out and address that problem.
The next guy that came out told me what they had to do, what it would cost and called American Home Shield. Because the pipe is in a concrete wall, they refused to cover it. I don't understand as all my plumbing is right there in the open, in the basement. I've got a sewer line that's leaking, and I paid for some insurance that I thought was supposed to cover those kinds of problems, which apparently it doesn't. Right now is not the time to be hit with it. I had just lost my husband. I wasn't real happy with American Home Shield.

I had a plumbing issue and everything went well. The tech that AHS sent out was very professional, very friendly, and courteous. He changed out my garbage disposal because it was leaking from the bottom and he changed out my toilet upstairs since the flapper was bad. From the time I put in the claim until the repairs were done, it took about two days and the tech did a great job. I also had an issue one time with my washer and I left the claim information over the voicemail, but the reps input it as a dryer issue. So I had a really big problem trying to get them to understand that I never mentioned my dryer, I only mentioned the washer. Then, I had an issue with my bathtub and I simply was so honest with the lady. I told her that my fiberglass in my bathtub had a crack in it and asked if they covered that. She put me on hold for a moment and when she came back to the phone, she said they covered it and that I just had to pay my $100 deductible.
So, I paid the $100 deductible and the service company came out. The guy walked upstairs and in 30 seconds, he came downstairs and said it was not covered. He said that the AHS rep did not put it on the record that there was a hole in the fiberglass. It was a huge issue. I had to fight with AHS to get my $100 deductible back and it took about three weeks to get my $100 back. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend AHS. After the first year that I got the warranty, the very second year, they raised my premium twice in one year and they never told me that they were going to raise it.

The settings would not go past 20 minutes of drying time and he changed the switch. But he also had to order the part and he fixed both appliances on the same day. Some of my experiences with American Home Shield have been good and some of it have been bad. It's nice that I can go on the computer, set a claim up and American Home Shield sends somebody right away. But some of it depends on the contractor. A contractor came and fixed the doorbell in one shot. But I'm not happy about the furnace. The technician said that he thought it was the circuit board. He was going to order a circuit board and I asked when it was going to come. He said he didn't know and he had no responsibility for that.
I called the next day and asked American Home Shield how long it was going to take. They said they'd already ordered it and the part was supposed to be in on March 3rd then the contractor should call me and bring it out. I called again a few days later and when I looked on the computer screen, it said that the furnace was closed. I asked what was up with the part. The rep called the technician and the technician told her that the part was supposed to be in in five to seven days. I was a little confused because it was supposed to be here that day. The rep said she didn't see any notes. We're at seven business days, but I haven't heard anything and I'm mad.
For the dishwasher, they wouldn't fix it because it had evidence of cockroaches. They didn't tell us that when Aygo came out and filled out the paperwork. They just said the circuit board was blown. They should have said that when they were giving us the paper about what they thought was wrong with it. Also, the Aygo scheduling lady is a knucklehead because she scheduled me a video call and an in-person call, but the scheduling times were the wrong times.

Overall, American Home Shield responds real quick to whatever issue I have. Most things are fixed fairly quickly, and they've done a good job. I can't complain.
Things start to break down the longer you use them, and it's a lot cheaper to have a home warranty come in, figure it out and get it done. One time though, I had an air conditioning central pump repaired. American Home Shield didn't tell me there are certain parts that they don't cover. That was probably in the fine print that I didn't read, but I ended up having to come out of my pocket quite a bit for that issue.

They've come to my home a number of times and they are always professional and come when they say they're going to come. But American Home Shield's contractors can be horrible, as well, and I let them know when I have problems.
Also, a complex claim is not great with AHS. I had a refrigerator where a part that was covered failed, but another part that was still under a long-term warranty wasn't covered because of that. I just bought a new fridge because getting the two coverages to coordinate was going to be utterly impossible. And their customer service group is offshored and doesn't have authority to do stuff. Our furnace went out in Jan of 22 American Home Shield sent their repair service out. 1st visit they said it was just a cleaning, although we just had it cleaned less than a year. warranty did not cover this so we paid the $100 service charge and $450 cleaning bill! Still not working! 2nd visit they said it was another part, and they charged us another $100 service charge for the same problem. 3rd visit it was still another part plus now a motor, 4th visit they said it was a new furnace. Now they want us to pay another $1,700 to get their company to fix it. So we asked if we could get another company to fix it, and they offered us $988 on a $3800 job leaving us to pay almost $3000 on top of the $650 we have already paid! It is 3/9/2022 and still no heat and no fix for the problem. We will never renew with this company. What is warranty for.

We had some issues with the septic tank. The technicians were good. They had to come back. I had to call them a second time and let them know that after the first time they came, the issue came right back. Having the warranty with American Home Shield is a plus and a minus. It’s good as a backup plan so that you don't have as much to pay out for expenses, but the negative side is if they don't find a vendor or a contractor you want to come out and do a service.

My husband has been a little bit frustrated because the calls to American Home Shield go directly offshore and lately, he's trying to get a complete explanation. We've had a couple of issues where it required additional work, and in trying to get clarification as to what was required and why it was required, he wasn't able to really get that information from some of them.
Recently, we just had to have a hot water heater replaced. He made three calls and then I ended up turning around making another call. Finally, I was able to get someone that could explain everything as to what the prices were, what was being done, what they were not covering, and what they were covering. It came up to 2,000 and some dollars and we were going to have to pay 1,000 and something of it. So, when you're doing something like that, you want to be able to understand what you're paying, and what's covered and what's not. One person told him they were going to check into it. It takes a while sometimes to get on the line with somebody. So then, he was holding and all of a sudden, he was disconnected from them. Now, the person has already gone over with you your number, your information, and you don't get a callback.
The second time, he called someone and they were looking over it. They said we were going to have to pay $1,000 exactly. At first, it was denied. So, we were like, "It's denied. Well, what do we do from there?" With that call, I had to actually end up calling the company and asking them, "Hey, can you tell us? Do you know how this works?" The lady was like, "Yes. You have to call them back and tell them that you're going to accept the information." But my husband had spoken to somebody and they were like, "Well, it's denied." We were like, "Why is it denied?" We weren't given that information.
We had someone out 11 days before for our garbage disposal. Now, they told me it was some metal in it. I didn't see the metal, but they used some kind of little tool that unfroze it. He said, "Okay. It's good." I don't know that there's metal in there. My husband was saying unless maybe the garbage disposal is starting to deteriorate or mess up. We had to call in last week to have someone come back out again to check the garbage disposal. This person who came out was like, "There's plastic in it." I didn't see the plastic either. He said he had to push the plastic through, but it unfroze. So both times, I haven't seen what they were saying is in there. So, my husband was like, "Well, we're paying a monthly charge for this. We're not expecting to have to keep calling you guys back out for this garbage disposal." We were told, "Well, that's not considered a regular wear and tear." We don't know if we need to look at another home warranty company.

I had some plumbing issues with my toilets. And all of them either flushed too slow or they were backed up. The app has its quirks. It’s confusing because they don't really tell you if this particular thing would be covered. It just says toilets or plumbing. And it doesn't really say that this particular thing I wanted would be a covered deal. So, I ended up having to call. It was cool because I already placed the order. I just asked a couple of questions. And the girl that I talked to was thorough. Colorado First came out, used different tools, and they got my toilets working. The guy that I talked to was young but he knew what he was doing. Whenever I want to replace my toilets, I'm gonna give them a call back so they can do that. After the guy came out, we had to pay that flat rate and I was, “This is something that my friends probably need to know about.”

We had a washing machine problem and the techs who came in did an excellent job. They were very knowledgeable and professional. The claims process with AHS was pretty easy and very good. I just got online and they had almost a perfect form. All you do is click and click, then send it in. The next thing you know, you're getting a response back from whoever the contractor is and they're setting up an appointment. In the past, we had a leaking faucet and we got somebody promptly on that, but the drip wasn't fixed. But we knew it was fixed temporarily. As soon as the techs left, it started leaking again, so I called them back and they came back and took care of it. So, sometimes you have problems and sometimes you'll look at the contractor and how they resolved the problem. But overall, they did a pretty good job on that.
Other than that, people need to look at the fine print because AHS doesn't cover a lot of things that you're surprised about and you don't get it until later. For instance, if you have a piece of equipment that's 30 years old, they tend not to fix. They try to fix it but a lot of times, there are no parts and they will just say it's beyond its lifespan.

With AHS, I don't have to find the right people for the job. They do all the legwork. Recently, the garbage disposal wasn't working and a couple of faucets were leaking. The tech got out in a reasonable amount of time. The disposal was replaced but they didn't do anything with faucets because the water pressure was too high and that caused the leak.
When I signed up with AHS, it was no problem at all. Then one day, they just lifted the price unannounced to me. I wasn't even given advanced notice. It was the same service except the price was different. They did that because they could. At that point, it was my choice to discontinue the service or keep paying a higher price. It would have been a lot better if an email would have gone out to all the customers saying, "Because of these reasons, we must increase the price."

I had a couple of times where I needed a plumber and American Home Shield sent a guy that must have worked out of his car. He looked like he was more concerned with doing something else like picking up his daughter or going here and there than taking care of me. He came in, looked at the job, and said he was gonna have to order something then come back. He never called after so much time he left. I called him back and he said he got the part in and that he would give me a call when he came by. I fixed the issue myself then called him back to tell him, “Just forget it.” He had me pretty well worn out with his attitude and not keeping his appointments, and not calling me back on the phone.
When I needed some work done, I called American Home Shield and I asked told them, “Please don't send me any people that work out of their car or out of their home. Send me somebody that's a legitimate business in whatever I need, like, electrical, plumbing, or whatever, and make sure they're listed with the Better Business Bureau. If they're not, don't bother.” This last time, I needed some work done on my central heat. American Home Shield found somebody for me here where I live and they said they were listed with the Better Business Bureau. They did a good job and they took care of me. The tech went above and beyond what he was supposed to do.
American Home Shield seems to understand what I'm saying when I call and I have to remind them to send me someone that works for a legitimate company listed with the BBB. That's what I'm gonna continue to do when I need work because I'm tired of some of these people that they send. It seems like they're some of the least expensive people they can hire or find to go work on your home. American Home Shield needs to bring up the quality of companies that they work with.

A & M Plumbing went to the pipe outside, and they couldn't get it unclogged. So, they told me I had to go to, SAWS, the local water system because they said that most likely, the clog was on their side. So, I had them come out, which they did, but they said there was nothing on their side. I had to pay for A & M to come back. They came out to do the visual scope. They put the thing in, and they were able to clear my pipe with this pressure hose. Once it was cleared, then they put their camera in and they said my pipe is not broken, but it shifted down and the PVC pipe and the old pipe are not aligned. So, that was why it clogged up. It's working fine now.
I've been with American Home Shield since I bought this house in December of 2014. So, I've been paying them for about 300 a year. The times I called them out, they couldn't help me. They didn't even snake the drains either. I've called them out twice, and both times, there was nothing that they could do. It wasn't covered. I'm about to put in a claim to come out and fix the ceiling fan, and I'll probably have to have another plumber come out and snake the drain for the washing machine. Overall, AHS hasn't really done anything for me.

The tech came out, and when he looked at it, it worked. At any rate, he thought, maybe it had an issue with the door latch thing. So he ordered a door latch and another little piece, and he came back. Before he came back again to install that stuff, we were having issues with it again. It wouldn’t work. So, he installed that. We thought everything was fine. After he left the second time, the very first load we tried to wash, it started but it stopped in the middle of the load. It gave us the same error message and we couldn't make it work. Now, he's supposed to be bringing yet another part. He's scheduled to be here this afternoon. No difficulties requesting service with AHS, though. I call it in and it wants me to do a video of the problem. I do a video showing the problem while the guy I'm reporting to is online. It also took me 50 phone calls to American Home Shield to get the problem resolved. There were so many notes in the computer and every time I’d call, it would take me an hour to get through somebody. They would promise to call back but I never once ever received a phone call back. I’ve also asked for supervisors and was told that they'd call me back. But I got no call back. Also, the last company that came out, Right Choice Plumbing, didn’t fix the issue, but took some parts off and made it work. Beaches Air Came was the first contractor who came out for the heat and air. The tech said the transformer was gone and needed to be replaced. He said he would submit that to his office and they would submit the findings to American Home Shield. But they made a mistake and said that a part was missing. The claim was declined. I spoke with another person at American Home Shield and they found somebody in Daytona called Air Tech. Air Tech came over and the gentleman said they don’t work on my heating and air condition. He said they would have their office call American Home Shield for them to refer somebody else to come out.
Another air condition place out at Sanford, Florida came out. The gentleman was very nice. He replaced the transformer and put things back together. Everything was looking good so he left. I went inside and turned the unit off from the thermostat so it won't keep running but I came back and it was still running. I opened up the panel and there were flames all over the place. This flame was on the gas outlet. My house would have been blown up. I cut off the gas and called the company. The tech said he didn’t know what was going on and he couldn’t work on it. Fidelity Appliances did the washing machine. They told me that the reason it was doing what it was doing was because the bearings were going out in it. The bearings were going to be too expensive to replace so I got an approval to purchase a new washing machine. I did so and got a check from American Home Shield in that exact amount. However, I have a claim in for my hot water heater, and I need to get cashed out on it. I told American Home Shield I was going to hire a contractor to put a tankless water heater in and that was what I did.
I recently talked to them about my cashout and all they kept telling me was they finally went to a higher power. But all they told me before was, "We never got a quote from the contractor." I told them, "You hired the contractor. You need to hold them accountable for getting that quote, and not to mention you've done millions of hot water heater replacements. You have enough quotes to compare and to figure out what one costs. You can take some number in the middle of your millions of quotes and pay me out." The contractors have been good minus the ones that looked at my hot water heater. I've had them over here many times and they're shady. I told them, "I need you to give American Home Shield the price to replace the tank water heater. I want to go tankless and I'll get a price from you guys to go tankless." Their price was ridiculous and they never turned in a price to American Home Shield.

American Home Shield's contractors have gone above and beyond. After the freeze last year, we had a plumber come out because the water wasn't draining. Then, he had to come back out a couple of weeks later because it was backing up again in the sink. He was able to finally clean it out the second time. Most recently, we had Dill Appliance come out for the dryer. It was making a super loud screeching noise. The tech said one of the belts needed to be replaced and he ordered the part. It came in a few weeks later and they called back to schedule an appointment to install it. He came in on a Saturday and he was there for 20 minutes putting the new belt in. It worked fine and it doesn't make the horrible screeching noise anymore.
We recommend American Home Shield to friends. We have not ever had any problems and for any questions, we just pick up the phone and call the 1-800 number or I go online. Then, they would reach out to me and send the right person out to the house. It's like an extra layer of protection to me and to be able to have that kind of calm knowing that someone else has my back is really good for me.

I've never had to wait too long with AHS. My last claim was a furnace issue. I did it on Sunday night and come Monday morning, I got a phone call. The contractor, Connect Service, was out on Monday afternoon. The tech was informative and showed me a few things I can do for maintenance. Another claim was when we had the furnace replaced two years ago. We had issues with it. It still wasn't working right after it was installed and we just dealt directly with the installers. They had to come out three times until they got it fixed properly and there was no extra charge for that.
The only thing I didn't like was we had a plumbing issue in the wall behind the sink but the plumber only does plumbing. I had to get a contractor in there to cut the wall, had the plumber come in and do his work, and then had the contractor fix the wall again. Other than that, AHS has saved me money. Also, they have specials, usually, during the spring to have an inspection and a tune-up done on your central air unit. They do that in the winter or the fall for the furnaces too.

As a Realtor, I don't generally deal with the claims process. I typically just tell my clients to make sure that they read the details and make sure that they're aware of what's excluded from the policy. A lot of times, titles can be misleading them, thinking that plumbing or electrical is included or certain things. American Home Shield's service seems fine. I know a couple other clients that I've referred for warranties, and they've never had anything bad to say. If they're happy, I'm happy.
For some reason though, AHS has never been able to update the contact information for my client's house. I have asked them a couple of times to update, and that hasn't happened. In the last year that she's owned the home, every time she's attempted to use the warranty, the contact is always coming through me. This includes phone calls, emails, and vendors trying to reach out to get out to the property and do the work.

I've been with American Home Shield for many years, and I'm very disappointed. I had a microwave issue and they sent a technician out who looked at it and saw what he needed to replace to make it work. Later on, he advised us that the part was not available, which meant that we were going to have to get a new one. I contacted American Home Shield, and they said, "Oh, no problem. We'll get you a new one." They sent me an email and said, "These look like they would fit your need." The rep gave me several different ones to look at. So I selected one, then American Home Shield sent an email saying it would be delivered by a trucking company, Big Box Truck.
Big Box Truck showed up, took a box out, brought the unit in, and the technician started measuring things. He said, "This won't fit. It's not even close," and he left and took the unit with him. I called American Home Shield and said, "Ma'am, I need to talk to management or somebody that's going to help me with this." The rep put me on hold for 31 minutes, so I hung up. Later on, I called back again, and again, the young lady I talked to said, "Well, I'm in the Philippines. I can't help you. I'll put you through to somebody else." I said, "Ma'am, I really need to talk to somebody."
Finally, a lady came on and she said, "Well, you got to pay $100 because that one has to go back." I said, "What do you mean I got to pay $100?" "Well, you selected it." "Well, yeah, that's one of the ones you sent to me. You said that these would fit and it did not. And I'm not paying $100." That is the most terrible company I've ever had to deal with and I've been dealing a long time. The lady said she'd put me through to somebody else, a higher level, and again, I was on hold 20 minutes. My phone went dead waiting, and I have not called back. That was a few days ago.
When I got the survey, I was really disappointed. Because if you send the wrong item to my house that won't fit and I'm going to pay $100 to have it taken back, no way, Jose. I am not a happy camper and I am going to switch to another company at the earliest opportunity I have. I am researching now because American Home Shield did not help me. Absolutely do not go with them. Their company is out of California, but every time you call a work order in, some lady in the Philippines answers and half the time, you can't understand them. My heater went out two weeks ago and the contractor came and figured out what was wrong with it. They fixed it and got it working in 45 minutes. They were great. American Home Shield was easy to deal with and took care of me. Everything was perfect.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.

American Home Shield’s website was user-friendly but when I did the claim, it just said gas furnace. I didn't want to do a check all and I wanted to be able to type what the issue was. The contractor was very professional and took the time out to explain everything to me. They had to order the part to fix the actual thing. They found out what was wrong and knew how to fix it. AHS is worth it.
