When I submitted a claim with AHS for a leak, the reps were very helpful and pleasant. I’ve used them twice and the interaction had always been friendly and cooperative. Very professional. I wasn't given any hoops or hurdles to jump through. They said that they would send someone out and they gave me the name. They asked me the time, that would be convenient for me. I shared that with them and it was set up.
The tech that came put shields on his feet so that he didn't mess up my carpet. He was very professional and introduced himself. He asked me what the problem was. He said that it was a good thing that it was gurgling. That shows that there was some airflow in there but he was going to check it. He stayed here for a little bit until all the drains were clear. He said the sewer smell was gone. He snaked it out twice to make sure. He said he thinks that some of the flushable wipes may have been the culprit and may have gotten clogged up in the drain. He stayed here until we filled up the tub and the sink. He flushed the toilet how many times to make sure there wasn't a leak and to make sure that there wasn't any more backup in the drain. Since he left, I haven't had any problems.

Recently, the microwave door malfunctioned. It wouldn’t latch. Also, the top trim piece of the microwave wouldn't stay on and that was causing the microwave to not be able to function properly. It wouldn't latch right because those pieces have been worn out over time. The contractor was able to get that taken care of. However, American Home Shield wouldn't cover anything outside the walls, like if it has to do with a type of plumbing issue outside of the actual dwelling. AHS should cover that.

My heater pilot light went out and we needed somebody to light that because all it was throwing out was cold air. When the contractor called, I let him know what was going on but he said he doesn't do that and he never showed. That was the last we heard of anybody. They also sent a young boy to do a job and he couldn't do it. So, he sent somebody else. But most of AHS' contractors are very professional. They sent somebody to fix our toilet and they did a very good job. I recommend AHS because they respond pretty well. They also do good work. You call them and they contact whoever the contractor is and send them to you. The only improvement I would like to see is the timeframe.

The hot water heater had failed. It was leaking, so it needed to be replaced. The contractor was good about getting with me to schedule and diagnose the problem. And they were sweet. My only downside on that one was, you would think they would take you to the cleaners on all those extra things they add on. It ended up costing me $1,600 extra on that install. Ouch.
I had a recent experience with billing. I had the opposite experience back in January when I had put in a request for service, and I couldn't get anyone to come out. And they were like, "Oh, they could come out in three weeks." I got water flowing out from upstairs into downstairs, flooding my garage. I found someone locally, who came out and I just paid them. Yesterday I got American Home Shield to refund the $75 service call fee since they couldn't find anybody else other than the person they referred me to. We canceled the service call since they couldn't provide anybody. And they wouldn't refund the $75 service call fee that didn't happen until yesterday. Meanwhile, they beat me up for the $75 service call for the hot water heater. That took a while and a couple of phone calls. And you give them a week or two and you call them back. "Okay, guys, you're beating me up to pay the new service call, but it takes you 90 days to, you know. Yeah."
Other than that, I look at American Home Shield like a budgeting tool. I pay close to $100 a month. One of the things I like is the ability to trust their contractors more. Even though I'm feeling queasy about those extra fees, when they charge $199 to weatherize the pipes. That just meant they put the insulation around it which takes four minutes. And a lot of add-ons. But it's the ability to know that the contractors have to explain what's wrong and deal with AHS so that there's a third party in there that you can trust so that they can't snow you. Having that third party in there gives you a better feeling about what is actually needed.

I had to have a new hot water heater put in. Some of the plumbing was not up to the new code. American Home Shield said they would cover the cost of replacing our hot water heater. But they won’t back the warranty on my hot water heater unless I bring it up to code. They didn't cover that and I had to take that out of my pocket, which was $800. On top of that, had to pay $100 to them. I wasn't real happy about this.
When I called in about it, they said they would have covered that under the Platinum service. I wasn’t aware that there was a Platinum service and I’ve been with American Home Shield for several years. I talked to a girl there and she said this was something they started last year. I already have a contract with them and I can't upgrade my plan until October. American Home Shield has been forcing me under the old contract and that doesn't seem more than fair. Other than that, I don’t have any other problems with them until this instance. The service was great.

A pipe had been leaking under my bathroom sink all day. So, it was something that I found when I came home from work. American Home Shield tried hard to get somebody to come out that night to fix it but they couldn't do it. So, I called the plumbing company that they'd given me, which was Golden State, the next morning. They made an appointment for 1 o'clock and they were there right at 1:00, and they were done by 2:15. They were very good and I appreciated it.

The service has been good. All of the technicians are great. They're nice and they try to resolve the problems. I recently had four claims, and I was told they're going to fix more than one thing when they come out. I had a stove issue going on, the dryer, the microwave, and before that, the heat went out. They got it all done except installing my microwave, which is custom built-in. The guy said he couldn't do it because he couldn't get something. Other than that, they've been great.

American Home Shield's customer support is wonderful. With me getting off work pretty late, I don't get a chance to call in. I'll just submit a request online and I usually hear something the following day. As far as their communication and their professionalism, they keep me informed about everything. Techs come out in a timely manner and they help me accomplish whatever it is that I'm having problems with.
I used my home warranty when my dishwasher would not work. No matter what we tried, it wouldn't turn on. A technician came out and he was saying, “Whoever installed this prior to you guys getting here, they didn't plug something up.” It was just some little tab on it. The tech also said it was leaking and he had to return with some type of part to install on it. My mother-in-law said the technician was very nice. Her English isn't the greatest but she relayed everything he said. My dishwasher works now.
This is my first time buying a house and there are a lot of different expenses that come with it that I was not prepared for. They can be pretty pricey so I'm really glad that I have American Home Shield. A lot of those things are being resolved a lot cheaper and even salvaged. If something's broken, you just have to replace it. But so far, everything's been fixed.
We are grateful for the time that you've taken to share you AHS experience. Please let us know if you need any assistance in regards to your warranty. Have a great week.

My ice machine doesn't work on my fridge and we’ve been pushing that to the side because it would work and then it wouldn't work. Then, the microwave stopped heating. We made a claim for the microwave but if we had the option to put both of them together, we could've knocked them both out. If I have two issues going on, I'll have to make separate claims. So, I'll have to pay twice. It's not really a problem but it would be nice if American Home Shield would tell me to just pay the deductible and they would cover two problems.
Our experience shouldn't affect AHS. They're just the middlemen and they cover a majority of the costs. Their contractors are limited though. I wish that it was a bigger spectrum or maybe I can choose who I want to go with. For example, my cousin works for an AC company and if I were to choose, I’d ask my cousin to come over and check on my AC and it'll be covered. But the contractors were good and I had no issues with them.

Our refrigerator was intermittently going out. The first time the techs came out, the tech cleaned the coils. He told me to clean up the little rubber seal gasket and put some Vaseline on there. But that didn't work. The bottom two drawers always stay cool. But the main piece was the one not working. The second time, he thought it might be a sensor. So we replaced a sensor. That was looking good. But then it's two days ago now, it got up to 60 some. The first couple of times, resetting the breaker seem to work.
We've had them out a lot of times and it took multiple visits. If I'm getting something fixed for 300 bucks, this item isn't even fixed even with a brand new sensor. So at that point, I wouldn't really want to pay the monthly rate of AHS if I feel like I am not getting everything I need. Sometimes there's also a delay. We had an HVAC problem and they couldn't see us for weeks. But they replaced a pool pump that had gone out. It got close to two grand. So that was nice. They also fixed our dishwasher but it took a lot of work.

The experience was absolutely fine. I just wasn't in agreement with the pricing that I unfortunately had to pay. But the contractor did exactly what they were supposed to do and were very courteous. They rang the doorbell. The lady came in and turned off the power. She looked at my unit and told me the problem with it, and that she would call American Home Shield. She called them and let them know what was what, and then informed me of the decisions that were made. I was going to have something replaced.

On the day that the tech came, my washing machine did not act up like it had been doing. So, he tried to make it do what it was doing. It was going to the spin cycle. But it didn't do it that day. A couple of days after he left, it started doing it again and it's been doing it ever since. So, I can't use it at all now. I've had to call back to get another visit as soon as possible. They told me that I had to call American Home Shield and tell them first, which I've done but I haven't seen anybody yet. I'm giving them some time to make arrangements but I hope they don't take too long. One time, when my dryer was broken, I had to wait three weeks till it got fixed. Other than that, AHS has been good. They're just a little slow because they're busy.

Within the last three years, American Home Shield has changed their approach. Like the last incident, I called them about my toilet, and the toilet had a crack in the tank. So, I talked to the people that fixed the stuff, and they said that every time they said something to AHS about a crack in the toilet, they wouldn't cover it. If I got a problem with my toilet, they're supposed to fix or replace it. So if I call them and tell them that there was a hairline crack in the tank, they start talking about, "Well, did you do it or was it self-abuse?" I told them, "Well, I don't abuse my own stuff. I'm not trying to tear nothing up. If I got a problem, I want you to fix it." So sometimes I just give up and do it myself and think about going to another company. That's way worse. I thought they would just go ahead and fix the stuff, but now, they're getting all picky rooney.
The contractors are wonderful people. The problem is the ones that approve stuff. AHS has an approval department, and if you get caught in their crosshairs, you're not gonna get the thing fixed, and they're not gonna fix it. If you have a stoppage in your sewer line, they stopped that. They just made up their mind that they don't want to cover something. On some stuff, they just go ahead and cover because they got to. But I get these gray areas, and what they do is they won't cover the stuff. Sometimes I feel like giving up. And they don't tell me anything. They wouldn't mail my contracts. I told them to mail the contract to my mailing address. I told them several times and they keep on mailing the contract to the place where I have the coverage in. It seems like they don't comprehend.
Another thing is at first, when the technician comes out, I would pay. AHS got this new thing now. As soon as I call up and tell them I got a problem, they charge my credit card. But the man hasn't even showed up. I don't understand. Why are they charging me money and nothing got accomplished? That's a biggie for me. I know I gotta pay the service fee. So when the man comes out, I would think he shows up and I pay. I got no problem with paying him before he does anything, but at least he's here. Why am I paying a service fee but nobody showed up? And when I make the appointment for the people to come out, a lot of times, it would be a week that they haven't even showed up and AHS already charged my credit card.
Sometimes I talk to people from some other part of the world, and they have this strong accent. I can't even understand them. I gotta say the same thing five times before we get it straight about what the deal is. I don't know where they're getting these people from. I want everybody to have a job, I want everybody to be happy, but nobody's gonna be happy if nobody understands each other. It's like the story about the Tower of Babel. Nobody's gonna understand nobody, and nobody gets nothing done and there's a lot of confusion. Unfortunately, I don't know how to speak Polish, Lithuanian or French. And I like everybody. So, AHS needs to get people who are fluent in English where we can all understand each other.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your unresolved concerns.

With all the housing development going on, we would have a hard time finding somebody to come out and do work for us. Since the things that we have in our home are covered by Home Shield, we know that for $75, we could get somebody over here. It’s a little extravagant but it’s good to know somebody would be here and they are really competent people. Home Shield’s service has been wonderful.
The only thing that needs improvement would be the communication between me, the contractor, and Home Shield. It seems to be a little disconnected there. A tech went on my roof to look at an air conditioning problem we got. He gave me some information and told me what he thought was wrong and what he could and couldn’t do. I waited to hear from Home Shield and nothing happened. It was about 10 or 15 days later when I called Home Shield to see what they decided to do. They said their contractor caught COVID. A bill was sent and the case has been closed. It seemed like Home Shield got the guy out here to look at my work but then they never called me about what happened. The conversation is always with the contractor. I’m the one that’s paying for the service. It's a pretty serious thing if you’re bypassing the homeowner. It was $1,200 later when they finally got another guy over here to do the work.
I had another claim and the guy who came was wonderful. I was afraid that the toilet was messing around and acting up. I had gone in there and replaced the interior of that tank. But I was still having issues with it and I didn’t trust myself to finish it. That prompted me to make the claim with Home Shield. The guy fixed the issue in no time. We were happy and we gave him some extra money because we liked what he did. We tell people that we have Home Shield and I’ve given them information on how to contact the company. We’re believers and we’ve been there for a while.

I had a tank that was leaking and I called American Home Shield and they scheduled the service. It took a while for someone to come. I called the contractor and they were a week out. It wound up being the same people a week later. If you call and schedule someone to come out, and if you feel that's too far, to change and try to go through the process of having someone else come out, maybe you can get a quicker time if AHS lets the client know that it's a process of 72 hours before we can even go forward and applying to see if someone else can come out. I kept getting the runaround saying to call back tomorrow and I didn’t understand that. I get up to go to the gym for 4:00am, and I have a roommate who's disabled. I always check on him before I leave, and he said, "I have bad news." I said, "What's that?" He said, "The AC is not coming on." I go, "I'll just call American Home Shield." I don't think people realize how easy it is to file a claim. The process is literally walking from getting my gym bag to giving my dog a treat to out the door. Once they have your phone number, you verify it. They recognize your contract on the phone.
You can set up the claim service in two minutes, and it's straightforward. Follow the prompts, tell them what you need serviced, and they verify the coverage, email you the confirmation, as well as the confirmation on the contractor who was assigned to you, then you're done. It was just 3:00 in the morning, and I got it all set up before I got to my car. I then heard a bing on my phone and I have the confirmation email with the phone number to Grace Air. My roommate works a small job and he was gone. I decided to call Grace Air when they open. They called me right back and said it would be no problem.
The people that contract with American Home Shield, the two that I've had out here, are the most professional. They understand that people work. In the past, you used to have to wait for a repair service. Apparently, you catch on to how much money you can make as an AC repair service, and if you can get a steady clientele through American Home Shield, they come out same day. They were here for 11:00, and they gave me a 30 minutes heads-up that the tech was on his way. I'm a math teacher, and I can have someone watch my classroom. It fell into my conference period. When I got home, I was able to tidy up from the dogs and corral them in a room. The tech fixed our AC, and it was just nothing. It was easy and amazing.
There was a problem with the breaker and I said, "Thank God," because I know nothing about electricity, so I don't touch. The tech took the unit apart, looked it over, and said everything else was fine. The AC unit kicked on, and he checked the air temperature coming out of the vent. He said, "Your Freon's good. Everything on the unit looks good. In fact, it runs better." He did not just say, "Oh, it was this," and then stopped. He let me know he gave the unit a looking over and he was out of here in 25 minutes. Amazing young man.
Teaching is a steady, fixed income where money doesn't go up or down, so you make your budget. You get paid once a month. Any surprise, and that ruins your budget. That means you're dipping into money that you saved up or you're putting it on a credit card. Having American Home Shield means I know I pay the service fee and the monthly fee. The monthly fee is a definite and the service fee is so low, I can handle the service fee. I can't handle an $800 repair a month without rearranging finances. It gives me the peace of mind. I don't have parents to say, "Can you lend me 500?" I don't know how I would afford my house without the warranty. It was different when I had someone to fall back on, and it's much different now that I'm by myself standing alone.

I've only called about one thing and that was the water heater. I called American Home Shield Thursday evening. Andy from Andy's Plumbing called me the next morning at 8 o'clock and was here by 9:00. It's great service because I did not expect to hear from AHS. It was so late in the day when I called. And there he was at 8 o'clock in the morning calling me. He's a sweetheart. He's probably the nicest plumber I've ever met in my whole life. He's a good plumber.
Three people told me that my water heater was going out and I had to get it replaced. Andy said, “I don't think so. I think you just need to flush it.” So, he brought all of his equipment out and flushed it. And I didn't have to get a new water heater. Because, ecologically speaking, I would rather not get a new water heater. And other people gave me these huge estimates to replace it. Andy said, “Who told you that? That's crazy.” He's an honest guy. He enjoys working with AHS. It worked out really well. I would use him for anything I had in the house after this. I've already recommended him to other people.

We used American Home Shield when a piece in our refrigerator snapped. Techs came out and fixed it. It took a couple of weeks to get everything done. In the past, it was nice because the company would reach out to us right away. But it seems in the past year, I would get an email saying, "This person is coming out there," but I don't hear from them. I end up reaching out and asking for updates. American Home Shield is not as good as it used to be. It also doesn't cover as much as we need it to for the price that we're paying, so my husband and I are looking at other home warranty companies.

We found some water leaking in the house. We submitted a service request with American Home Shield. Thomas Plumbing came out and looked at the house. American Home Shield let me know that my plan didn't cover access to fix the leak. I paid Thomas Plumbing for that work. I paid them to cut into the drywall, cut into the brick, and several different areas that they had to cut in order for that access. They did the repair. That was great. I had a great experience with Thomas Plumbing.
I reached out to American Home Shield again, because they told me that another technician/ contractor would be sent out to repair the drywall and the brick. They sent out another contractor. That contractor came out quickly also and did a couple of repairs in the drywall, but just half of the repairs. So, there are still holes in the drywall that haven't been repaired. Also, the drywall that the technician repaired, he didn't add any texture. It looks bad and it doesn't really blend in at all. Also, only half of the work has been repaired. I reached out to them multiple times and they just said to contact American Home Shield.
I've contacted American Home Shield multiple times aecause it's already been over two weeks and they're still just those holes in the house. I'm trying to get information on why the technician didn't finish all the repairs. Also on my portal, it already shows that the service request is closed. It showed that before anyone even came out to do the repairs.
Initially, the experience seemed to be good. As soon as I submitted the request, I have the technician from Thomas Plumbing. I called them that same day and scheduled an appointment with them for the next day. Even with the technician to come fix the drywall, I was able to schedule an appointment with them the next day. But that's been with me initiating all the phone calls. No one has been contacting me for each step in the process, which I don’t know if that’s how it’s supposed to be. It was quick. But then after it got done, I haven't been able to talk to anyone. I called and I talked to someone, and they were like, “We'll get back to you.” But nobody got back to me about it. At this point, the experience hasn't been good anymore.

I have a front-loading washer and it was leaking. A tech came and replaced the seal on the front where you open up the door and there's a rubber seal. He did great. That aside, I'm not very happy right now with American Home Shield because I called in my air conditioning and I haven't heard one thing. My AC went out last night so I put a claim online. I got the notice last night saying, “This is the company that will either call you within a day or you can call them.” I called them this morning and I was on hold for two hours. Finally, I got through and the rep goes, “We'll call you to schedule between the hours of 8:00 and 9:00, 12:00 and 1:00, or 5:00 and 6:00.”
I called American Home Shield and told them I live in Texas and it's 95 degrees so I need a different company - one that I can actually get a hold of. They said, “We have to give them a day and then we'll give you a new company tomorrow.” I told them o give me one today and they wouldn't do it. I'm now I'm waiting to schedule for the assigned company to come out and it's Good Friday. I'm screwed. I'm gonna be without air conditioning and it’s hotter than hell. I'm just so cranky right now. The other thing with American Home Shield is it would be super nice if the people who answered the phones could speak English. That would be great. Today, I could barely understand the girl I was talking to.
I've had other home warranties and American Home Shield is better than others. I had a broken refrigerator when I first bought my house in 2019. The freezer wasn't working and they said they were going to send someone out. I said, “No, you're not. I've been without a freezer for three weeks. I feel like I'm camping.” Techs got a part and it didn't work. They wanted to try another part. But I was done. This was in September. In the end, I got a new refrigerator then sent in the receipt to American Home Shield. They gave me $2,300 for the new refrigerator and it was perfect.

The service itself is good. I like the process 'cause it's online. At my last house, last month, they had a contractor come out and replace the blown fuse from the AC. However, I've got to call them and get it straightened out why I was billed twice this month. The first time, it said online that the payment was due so I paid it. Then they took it out of my account. It’s the second time I had paid twice. It was kind of my fault, but it didn't tell me that it was being paid online through my automatic account.

The guy from Hopwood Electric came in and in less than three minutes, the repair was done. It was something minor. It started outside with something that we plugged in and it cut off and then cut back on. The next day, they noticed that the light outside wasn't working as well as the outlet. The light in the dining room and the front porch weren't working, and the refrigerator we had in the garage quit. It all revolved around that one little outlet where the refrigerator was plugged in. It was faulty and had wire that was loose on it. So he came in there and said that he might be able to tighten it up. Then, it came loose again. So, he redid the outlet and everything worked. American Home Shield was nice and fast, and the guy was friendly.

I called American Home Shield. I paid my deductible and they told me who would come out. The contractor unclogged the drain in the bathroom downstairs. They are outstanding, very nice, and professional. If I have any other drain problems when I call, that is who I'm going to request. However, AHS wants a $100 deductible no matter what. I don't know how long I'm gonna stay with them because of that. For instance, if they pay the plumbers $200, I'm already paying half of it plus my payment every month. What kind of insurance is that? Also, my payment went up from $44 up to almost $70 without any notification. That to me isn't a very good marketing strategy and to keep customers. What I'm paying to AHS, the way they do things, I'll have to look at some other companies. Other than that, I've been satisfied.

I'm very happy with American Home Shield. Our water heater decided to die, and I was very pleased with the claims process. It was minimal. We were without hot water for two days, which could have been a lot worse. They tried to do it as quickly as they possibly could, and they did a good job. Top Notch Plumbing was wonderful. The entire electrical system was fried when they came out to look. So, there was nothing to be done. The first gentleman that came out was very knowledgeable. Then the other gentleman that came to replace the water heater was also very professional and very quick. We're very pleased.
We did pay out of pocket for two items that we were told were not covered by the warranty. When we had our home inspection when we bought the house, those items should have already been there, but they weren't. So, it was kind of a blessing that the unit died so that we could add those two items. It was an expansion tank that it didn't have, and it also did not have a metal tray to catch the water underneath. Having the warranty is great. It gives us peace of mind. So, we definitely will continue to have them.

Our microwave died. We submitted the claim and within five hours, we had a phone call from the Appliance Pros telling us that they would come out. I was shocked. The contractor was really good. They communicated very well with us and were on time. And the gentlemen that came were very professional. They had to come out and see what was going on. Even though we knew it was dead, they had to assess the situation. And once they assessed that it was dead, they would submit something back to the American Home Shield and let them know that there was no way to fix it. We needed a new appliance.
That process took a while because the microwaves were on backorder. So, we didn't have a microwave for three months. That was because it was a built in. That was no one's fault, that was just production. They tried to put it in before we even got the appliance. They got notification we were supposed to receive it sooner, and I had to cancel the date with them. We changed the date. They couldn't get me in on Monday, they said they would come Tuesday. All of a sudden, the tech called me Monday, around 10 o'clock when it happened, and said, "Is there any way we can come out today? We had a cancellation." I said that would be wonderful. The guys came out and took care of it. It took them 30 minutes. And they cleaned up after themselves, which is shocking, because most gentlemen don't do that. They took the trash and left. I went online, filled it out, paid the deductible and I was provided with the servicing company’s contact information. But they called. And it was a done deal. I just wanted to give AHS a try and it has been good so far. I've had a great experience and the one thing that I like most is the ability to pick your deductible. If you're comfortable with a higher deductible, then you can lower the cost of the contract. But if you want a small deductible, that's perfectly fine. The contract will be a little higher. So, that was unique. AHS sends a lot of emails though. I wish those would come through less often. But other than that, I have no real complaints.

American Home Shield met my standards and helped me out when I needed it. They helped with my dishwasher, some of my electrical and plumbing problems, and my shower. They fixed them and I'm satisfied with the timeliness. When I call a work order in, a contractor calls me immediately. The contractor that came out for my appliance was awesome. I liked their attitude. They knew what they were doing and they were courteous, respected my property and got the job done.
Sometimes I call American Home Shield, and sometimes I like to just go online and do the claim. I'm a techy guy. When I went online, one of the issues I had with my shower was it was not listed on there. That could be modified a bit more, and putting a remarks block in there would be good. I could put more details of what's going on, even though the contractors do call and ask what is going on with my problem. It's okay if I call American Home Shield for claims too. I'm a person that likes to just talk to a person, and usually, when I call, they respond right away.
I got a rental property and the people that stay in it weren't pleased with the other warranty company that I used. I was also displeased with them because they didn't honor my contract with them. I switched over to American Home Shield and we're both happy with it. They honor my contract with them and I would recommend them over the other warranty company. I've done a few reviews for American Home Shield too.

It took them a little while but that’s because of parts issues these days and not because of Adam’s or American Home Shield. It took a couple of weeks but it's taken care of now.
American Home Shield has been servicing my family for a long time. My mom was the first that we knew to obtain American Home Shield in Missouri. She told my brother and he got it. Both of my sisters got it for their home. She's told my cousins and they've got it for their home. It has been very handy for us for quite some time now. One claim that was bad was when we were having some problems with her washer and dryer. I pay for her policy too and it took us a long time to get it rectified with American Home Shield. I also thought that they were trying not to pay. The only reason that I got a response from them was because I went on a reviews website for those types of companies, did a review and told everybody that American Home Shield would not pay for my mom's washer and dryer when we've had them for all these years. Once I did that review online, within a day, they called me and took care of it. But I shouldn't have had to go that far for them to take care of it.

I had a separate electrician come out and take a peek at that. It turns out that it's not knob-and-tube, it's just older, cloth-covered Romex. But it can look like a knob-and-tube when it's in a switch. There was confusion but the repairs are great and the tech was very nice and professional. He just mixed up the kind of wiring that it was but he knew his stuff. If he saw the wiring downstairs, he would have known it wasn't know-and-tube. The switches work fine and they're safe.
There was another time I had a really old stove that went bad about two weeks after I moved in. AHS sent somebody out who worked really hard to try to find parts. It's just that I was talking to some lady from there and I told her to put a tune-up. When I contacted American Home Shield to see if they put the tune-up, she said no one did.

I've had American Home Shield on this house in Pennsylvania and we had American Home Shield's sister company on our house in Jersey. It's a great product and I wouldn't not have one on my home. Recently, we made a claim because the dishwasher wouldn't turn off. The only way to get the machine to stop was to shut the breaker off in the house. The dishwasher people were good. They came out, looked at the machine and determined that a part was needed. They went back and got the approval through American Home Shield. As soon as the part came in, they came in and installed it. They were able to fix everything that needed to be done including some wiring.
When I did the phone call, they had me relay with a tech via a live video call on American Home Shield’s side. It seemed a little redundant if the people had to come out anyway to see what was wrong. I'm not sure what benefit that had. I also wish that it hadn't taken two weeks in between the initial come out and the final, but it's not their fault. It's not like you can stock every part to every dishwasher that every home has. We totally understood it and were completely happy with the service we received.

American Home Shield has been a good company so far. When we have an issue, they take care of it immediately. But if we have to replace something, I am not 100% satisfied with how much their portion will be compared to what we need to pay out-of-pocket. Other than that, it’s not bad overall.
We have an AC that we had for a long time. Techs came and looked at it and they gave us an estimate out-of-pocket, which is almost $4,800 compared to what Home Shield will be able to cover. The estimate went to American Home Shield but when we contacted them, the representative was not able to tell me. The contractor already got approval from the home warranty for what is to be covered. But when I called them, they were not aware of it. There was confusion there. I had to call American Home Shield and they had to contact the contractor again and get the approval.
In the end, I didn’t want to spend that much money out-of-pocket to fix it so I decided to change the whole unit. The process took almost a week. Now, American Home Shield decided on our cash out and we're gonna take whatever they’re offering. We don’t have any other choice. The cash out they offered me was not really that much. We bought a new unit and another company came in and installed the whole thing.
With the whole process, we have to run after what we needed. They never contacted us and we were the ones contacting them. We’ve been waiting without an AC and the response was in two or three days. I was expecting them to call us and give us the final news instead of us calling them and being put on hold. We were waiting for the cash-out department which took half an hour. That department did not know anything about the part that they had to pay us for.
Other than that, American Home Shield has been good with some other stuff that we used them for. They sent a contractor for the garbage disposal and they replaced it. It was covered 100%. It's not a bad company. It’s just there's a lack of communication and it's not clear about what’s covered, what's not covered, and how much they're paying the value.

My experience has been fine with American Home Shield so far. The initial problem was a leak in the Jacuzzi tub. It wound up being the drain though, after the contractor troubleshot it. The tech had to install a new drain and drain plug. The seal was eroded around the drain itself, so the plug wouldn’t seal correctly. And while they were replacing that, they found a cracked pipe that they replaced too. They were fantastic. It was a great service.

I submitted a claim for the air conditioner through American Home Shield's website. That was a Sunday and they assigned it that night. On Monday morning, I got a call from the place they assigned it to. On Monday afternoon, a guy came out and figured out what was wrong with it. American Home Shield reached out after that to let me know that I was on the hook for most of the Freon cost then the company called me and scheduled a time to come out, replace the part and fill up the freon. It was straightforward. Having American Home Shield gives peace of mind that you're not going to have a large expenditure at one time. But in the end, it's most definitely in your benefit just to save that money you're spending on the American Home Shield warranty in an account and use that to pay for stuff that happens to your house.

We've had issues with the heating and the air since we bought our place two years ago. Home Shield kept just fixing it but it kept breaking down. It went out on November 4 and I called the home warranty. It took forever to get somebody and when they did, they kept making him change out parts. He was the second repairman to say we needed new units. Home Shield kept trying to do bandage jobs.
Eventually, after repairing everything that could be repaired, they said to put a new unit outside. After that, we still had issues with it. There were days that it didn't work. It seemed the colder it was, the harder it was for the unit to work. Our heating unit was 26 years old and it's not compatible with the outside unit anymore because that has more electronics. That took five months and we didn't have heat.
I didn't find Home Shield caring enough. Customer service is reading off of a script to you and it's very obvious because all they would talk in the same type of wording over and over. They're like broken records so you can't have a conversation with them. One kept saying recall and I had to explain what a recall is and they still didn't understand.
On the whole, I like the fact of having a home warranty. But Home Shield's customer service is what made this drag out. I really would like to get somewhere with customer service because if I stay with them, I don't want to keep having these issues. Customer service sucked. I actually had to call sales to try and get somewhere. Finally, the tech was able to replace the blower on the inside of our heating unit. But I have to have the tech come back out because it's whistling when it turns on. It's a high pitch so it wakes everybody up. I had other work done with Home Shield and I was fine. That was in the very beginning. I had a claim on my refrigerator and techs came out and did some work on the freezer. Now I just wish Home Shield had somebody that we could talk to.

The customer service is very nice, helpful and they know what they’re doing. You don’t have to wait on the phone very long for them to answer. We might have a holdup from our fridge because of the way things are from COVID so we still don't have our refrigerator but we’ll get it soon. If people could afford AHS, it's worth it. The claims process with American Home Shield went very smoothly. I have dealt with them before on a water heater and the company they had was out to rip me off. I have two water heaters and the repair guy said both of them were out. But my son looked at it and said that there was nothing wrong with one of them. And sure enough, there was nothing wrong with it. So, it depends on the people that they send. It seems that they were out to get AHS’ money and my money. So, I wasn't happy with that.
I was given a quote of $300 and I said that I could live with that. Then, it took six months and I was without a water heater. Nobody cared. When the water heater finally came in, the guy came back and said I owed them $900. I said that we agreed to $300 and when I called AHS to cancel, they said that I could do a cash payout. The people who answered the phone was trying to get you to get frustrated and give up, which is what I did. I said that I would do the cash payout on the water heater and within three days, I had a brand-new water heater and it cost me $100.
For this other company that AHS had for the stove, they were aware of what they needed to do and they did it, and it was just like the commercial. I was impressed. They cared about me as a customer. I was going to cancel my account if I had been dealt again with the gas stove like they did with the gas water heater. I had another claim on a microwave and the people that AHS sent, once again, didn't want to fix it or said they couldn't fix it. I got the runaround. So, I've had three claims and two have been a disaster. But the last one was great. The gentleman they sent out was a professional and explained everything to me. AHS needs more people like that working for them instead of just anybody.

I have a problem with American Home Shield's professionalism and the people that they hired to be their contractors are not dependable. AHS gave me the contractor's name and number to set up the appointment to check my washing machine. I called and called. Finally, he called me. We were able to set up an appointment for him to come out. He said that the machine needed a part, some sealant type of part. He told me that once the part gets delivered to my house, to call him so that we can set up another appointment for him to come out.
The part came in. I kept calling and calling. It kept going to voicemail. I kept leaving messages. Went on for a whole week. I had to go out of town. He called me while I was out of town and told me he was in my driveway. I said, “What are you doing in my driveway? You never even returned my call to set up an appointment. We don't have an appointment today.” He said, “I spoke to somebody.” I said, “You didn't speak to anybody.” He said, “I'm sorry. I did get your messages but I apologize.” I said, “We have to set an appointment for you to come to my house. You can't just show up at my house.”
Because I wasn't able to really depend on him, I called American Home Shield and told them that I wanted another contracting company. They gave me another contracting company. They came out and tried to put the part on for my washing machine. But it didn't fit. It was the wrong size. But they assessed the washing machine and said that there was nothing wrong with it because it never drained any water again after that one time. So they said that probably, the drain area was not clean. They cleaned it out and I haven't had a problem since. That's been a month now.
I have a problem now with my dishwasher. I asked for JDS because they came so quickly for my washing machine. That claim went in on the 31st. I was trying to find out why it was taking so long for them to call me to set up an appointment. First I was told that there were parts ordered. I said, “Why would you order parts when a tech was never out here?”
I got really upset. I got to the point where I was getting tired of them telling me, “We called JDS and we keep getting the answering machine. We left messages.” That was going on for a whole week. I said, “Can you get me another contracting company? Because seeing that you're not able to get in contact with JDS, then you need to get another contractor” They got my $100 and then they were giving me the runaround. I said I needed to speak to a supervisor. When I spoke with the supervisor, the supervisor was trying to tell me the same story. I got very upset with the supervisor and I said, “If I don't get anybody to call me by tomorrow, I will be canceling this contract.” As soon as I got off the phone with the supervisor, somebody called me and set up an appointment.

I've had AHS for several years, and I've had to use them only about four times, and overall, I've been very pleased each time. All the vendors are good. It's just that they got to follow their rules. When they tell me my washing machine is going out and it's making a lot of noise but it's not impairing the function of it, so I have to listen to this loud noise 'til it's destroyed, that ain't worth crap to me. The tech didn't repair it and said nothing was wrong with it and that it ran.
I called American Home Shield and they told me that as long as it runs, I need to use it. And I said, "Well, what about the noise?". The rep told me that the noise ain't covered and that I just keep running the machine. So, I have to call the tech the second time after he destroys it, and then I have to pay another 100 bucks. So that's 200 bucks out of my pocket toward a new one and I have to put up with that noise.

That was two weeks ago and I haven't heard anything back from him. But the service was good and knowledgeable. He knew what he was talking about. I enjoyed American Home Shield. American Home Shield’s customer service is great. I had to call in one time and they were very responsive. I was able to make an appointment and about a half-hour after, I had a call from the technician and he was here within two hours. My inducer motor was acting up. I had to manually turn it to make it work and it would stop. So, the tech tested it out. At first, he tried repairing it and he did everything he possibly could. But the thing was not gonna be fixed so he had to order one and replace it. It works great now and there are no issues so far. I would highly recommend getting the service. I wish I had gotten it when I got the house because there were plenty of things that I could have used that service on. But it's better late than never.

We had another plumber come out and he told us we needed to replace all the showerheads and all the water faucets in the house. I ended up replacing a couple of them and it didn't do anything, which was when we refiled with American Home Shield. It turned out to be the valve in the master shower. When it was originally put in, it was oriented the wrong way so it was letting cold water flow into the hot water side. Everything seems to be working. So, to that point, I'm happy.
We had a couple of different things before that didn't go exactly how I had planned for them to go as far as communication. We had a septic problem on our last house and one of the points that the young lady had made was AHS doesn't cover normal wear and tear. Then when our refrigerator went out, I called and the gentleman said they only cover normal wear and tear. But other than that, everything on this has gone great. There are a lot of stuff that our regular insurance company doesn't cover that home warranty does. I'm dealing with things right now with my regular insurance company and I have a $1,000 deductible. With the home warranty company, it's $75. It makes it a ton easier.

The service could be better. I'd like to have more say in the service providers. I get service fast, but I would like where they say, "Of these providers that are available, which one would you prefer?" or something. I've had service people come out before I had American Home Shield and I thought they were top-notch people. I feel like I get what's leftover through American Home Shield. I don't think they go for the best providers.
I had a problem with a washing machine leaking and the gentleman that came out to fix it made the leak a whole lot worse and flooded my laundry room. That was the second time somebody had been out. The third time, they replaced my washer. But he should have checked out the washing machine before he left and not left me a mess to clean up. Also, I recently had my AC fixed and they don't cover but the first $10 of Freon. That's extremely expensive and that should be covered or at least a greater percentage than just one pound.

Well, I was burned again. First with First American Home Warranty and now American Home Shield! Stop wasting your time shopping around for these companies, they all put language in their terms to deny your claim. AHS is the worst of them all!! Paid the 100.00 deductible to unclog a PVC pipe from my sink, the idiot who came was going to fix it and he didn't even have a long enough snake to unclog, said he would have to call AMS to get another company out here to fix. Then my claim was denied. Called the next day to cancel with AHS next day, hold time was 50 min or longer and one person even hung up on me, and they charged me for two months after that. Thought it was cancelled!
After repeated attempts to talk to supervisors they told me I had to pay till term was up. AHS is a scam and most others are too. Don't waste your time!! I'm totally done with these so called services. AHS is a really bad company, told my friend that I referred to AHS and he is going to cancel too before something bad happens. Other than the price increase, AHS has been great. I'm able to get really good service. From the day I started with them, every time I've ever called to say, “Hey, I have a problem,” they have someone out to me within 24 hours or sometimes less. Anytime there's a problem with any of their contractors, all I do is call and say, “Hey, they didn't do what they're supposed to do.” One time, by the time we got to the third person, my issue was fixed. This last issue was on the weekend. I called on a Friday, and somebody was out on Saturday.
The plumbing company they sent was great. The tech looked at my garbage disposal and said, “Yeah, we need to put in a new one. There's no way we can actually repair this.” He went back to the truck, got a new garbage disposal, and installed it in an hour. I like the range of things that AHS covers. I also love the convenience of being able to just go online and submit a claim. And I get a response within 30 minutes.

I have very recently switched from a different provider to American Home Shield. A lot of my friends said that they have had very good experience with American Home Shield. They also cited a couple of instances where the service was good. I would rather switch with something that other people have experienced positively. Recently, my water heater was leaking from the bottom a little bit. The contractor informed me upfront what time they would come and came in right on time. The person who came in knew what he was doing and told me what he thought the issue was. I knew exactly what they were looking to do. He said that the heater has to be replaced because once it starts dripping, that means the tank has eroded. He said that he would need to put in a request for getting a part and based on the availability, he would schedule when to come back. It was fairly clear. He told me exactly what I wanted to know.

American Home Shield's customer service quality is mixed. From the standpoint of their agents on the telephone, I don't like that they now have people that we can't understand. They outsourced it to different countries, and there were language barriers. I understand that they can't control the technicians that come into your house, but we do have more and more bilingual people and you have a hard time understanding them. On the customer service end, I've had people calling with their kids screaming. I can understand that better than not being able to understand the person.
Now that they have gone to the virtual technician where a technician doesn't even come out to your house to try to diagnose an issue, it's hard enough having to do that yourself, and then trying to visit with somebody that doesn't speak English to try to tell them what's wrong and what you want. It is a nightmare and I don't like that. They need to employ people in America. The name of their company is American Home Shield and their people should be working from America.
In my most recent claim, our pool pump was leaking, so Aeon came in. The tech knew what he was doing on it. He was very nice. His customer service was was top-notch and he did a very good job. For what he did, he was perfect. He will represent their company well. Lately, we had a big claim. They've always told me, "If you've got something wrong with an appliance or something, try to wait and save and get everything at one time because you get one deductible." I didn't plan on it, but a lot of things went out at one time. The handles came off on my dishwashers and refrigerator that we bought at the same time. It was loose on both of them. Because my oven went out at Christmas, I said, "Well, when I call it in, I'll have them both done."
In the meantime, the very next day, the ice maker went out on my refrigerator, and then my dryer went out. Then, at Christmas time, the same time my oven went out, the vent hood went out. Then, the pool pump went out, which was a different call than the appliance call. Then, my garbage disposal went out, which was a different call. My garage door opener went out. It was like, "Okay, the house is falling apart." But yesterday, somebody came and put the vent hood in. This all started in December and the refrigerator is not complete. The bad thing is the actual technician was not the technician that I talked to on the virtual technician thing. He's not with the company. But they brought a part just to fix the part that you push to bring the water out. That didn't fix it because, now, the ice isn't coming out. So, he's gonna have to come out and he had to order a part for the ice maker.
On the dishwasher, the door was going all the way down and we told him that and he didn't bring that part. So, he's got two parts to bring back. But he had brought an extra part in case it didn't fix the dryer. Parts are hard to come by, and so he had to wait. We just got the oven installed this week. The oven and teh dryer were the biggest things and both of those just got fixed and they went out in December. Part of that is because of the part, but also, part of it was that they didn't need the part that they were waiting on on the dryer. They were waiting on something they didn't need because they don't come out.
Then, they wouldn't come out until they had the parts from every appliance. What happened is they had to replace the oven and on the vent hood, they said all they need to do is fix a light. I said, "What are you talking about? The lights work. They just don't work all the time." Finally, we got it all straight, but that was the problem. I guess the picture that I took looked black. They bought a black handle for the dishwasher and everything is all stainless steel. I said, "You don't even need a new handle. All you need to do is show me how to put the screw on. And I saved the nut. All you need to do is show me how to -- I'm going to fix it."
The experience with our air conditioning unit was the only really bad one and they gave us such a little bit of money. This one took so long as well. Then, at one time, they sent a man that broke our granite and we ended up just settling with him, and then we just had to have it repaired. Other than those, I love the company.

The two burners of the stove were not working properly. Then the microwave was not warming up the food. Both of them were fixed already.
Today, I called in a claim for the refrigerator and this is the first time that American Home Shield didn't call me right away. They told me they were gonna send me the same company that came before for the appliances, but they haven't called me. So I'm still waiting. Even though I tried to call them, I couldn't get in touch with no one. There was also an instance when I put the claim for the appliances, and it took about three weeks before the guy came back to fix it. I used American Home Shield a few times. I was assigned a contractor to come out and fulfill the job. In those times, it was done. One claim I had was for a faucet that would leak water even when it wasn't on. Even when I wasn't running any water in the house, I'd have water underneath the sink and all of the countertops. Instead of booking online and filling out all this stuff, I would prefer if I could have a number to call and speak to someone directly. Because maybe in that instance I'm describing my problem, it would relate to another service. I said it was a leaking pipe when actually it was a leaking faucet. If you speak with someone who's knowledgeable in what you're talking about, they would direct you or assign the right contractor.
The techs diagnosed the problem then ordered a part and came back. We thought we might have to order a whole new faucet, which I didn't wanna do because they don't make that color anymore. The techs tried very hard to do a fix so that I could use the faucet while the part was on order. That didn't work but and I commend them for trying. In the end, the issue was fixed.

Shortly after I called them, I received a call from the maintenance person and it was a positive experience. I just don't like to keep following up when I'm paying $80 a month. It's not the cheapest warranty plan out there. AHS also sends these "Hey, get this tune up, get this check-up" messages. The technician that came out for the pool repair was good. He fixed the problem. I wanted someone to take a look so that I want to know how everything is working, and he gave me enough insight. When I sent in a claim for an AC tune up, it went fine. There was a recommendation to get the capacitor replaced and the contractor said they will report it to AHS. But from AHS side, there was no call back to me and it's been more than a week. I was expecting AHS to follow up on that one because I don't know the exact comments in the system. The contractor said it might go for a month or for two years.
I put a case for my backyard lights. The timer was not working. It was not triggering. The technician came and he said the problem was electrical which is inside but they are going to address that only if it is outside. So even though it was on my wall, he didn't address it. I wasted my money on that one. I didn't get time to follow up with AHS because if I call them, it takes very long time. Sometimes it is one hour or so. It's like insurance for your home but not. It's for the little things, hot water heater, all that other stuff that comes along with buying a home.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

The AC unit was acting up and we had to send out several trouble calls on it because it wasn't completely fixed. When the contractor came out, they fixed one problem, and then they left, and then it froze over. So, I had to put in a recall for them to come back out and see what was going on. There was another problem going on but it's fixed now. The tech was very knowledgeable. I've also had previous repairs. I had a claim for the hot water heater about two years ago, and it had to be replaced. American Home Shield is pretty on point. They send out a technician, the technician contacts you, and then he comes out.

American Home Shield has always been very easy to work with. Their claims process is simple. The prices are reasonable for what you get. It covers almost everything in your house. When you sign up for the warranty, you get to check off what you want covered. And what you can get covered is extensive. Part of it is HVAC.
I go online with American Home Shield and submit my claim, tell them that my heat is not working. They contact the company, and the company contacts me. The techs were great. It was a simple fix for them. We had a sub-zero cold snap, and it is something that could happen to your furnace. It affects a relay. It's very common, and they had it fixed. They were in and out here in 10 minutes.
Our first claim was a plumbing issue where the drain in the main bathroom is getting our son's carpet wet, and we didn't know what was going on. It turned out that it just wore out. So, the drain flowed from the bathtub. The contractor had to chip away concrete, which was a much bigger job than I could do. We had two plumbers out here all day working on it. And there was a part that wasn't covered in the warranty. But still, I had two plumbers out here all day for 275. You cannot beat that.

I mainly decided to get a home warranty because of air conditioning and heating issues. I wasn’t happy with my home warranty. I switched to American Home Shield but they've gone backwards a little bit lately. When there's a problem, somebody can come out and they may have that part in stock. The providers told me that they can't change the part because American Home Shield wants to send them their own part. It can sometimes add several days to a week to a fix that could be done on the same day. The only improvement would be to just allow the local providers to source parts if they have them on hand. AHS does not do that to try to save on cost. But there should be a good balance between saving on cost and long delays for customers.
I had a claim that took several visits. First, they told me the fan motor was bad so they replaced it. But that didn’t work. The techs were gonna come back and replace a control board. Before they replaced the control board, they sent a third person out to verify that diagnosis. He said, “No, it's not the control board, it's the thermostat.” The thermostat had to be sourced, which took a while. A gentleman came out and replaced the thermostat and it still didn't work. They then said, “Your control board is bad," so they had to get a control board. The tech had to come back out and fix that. It took probably five visits to get that issue resolved. Shortly thereafter, my other AC unit had a problem. That was just a bad relay. But everything seems to be working okay right now.
When you have a home warranty, you do not have to incur the entire cost if a major repair comes around. Most of my claims with American Home Shield have been heating and AC and they have been different problems. I have an older system. I do my claims online and it's easy.

There was a leak underneath the heater, and it was causing some issues. So, Express Plumbing came out, diagnosed it, and then, they filed the claim. They took pictures, and they replaced the water heater. This is the first claim I have with American Home Shield that something got fixed, but I like that they partner with local companies and that they give you an option to choose the company you want to work with. For the most part, when they assign someone, it's usually professional. So, I like that.
There was a claim that wasn't covered. It was fine. The person that AHS sent out still gave advice on how to deal with the issue that I was having. So, it's fine. I just didn't totally understand exactly what was covered and what wasn’t. Overall, AHS is a good company. I would just advise people to get specifics and understand what parts of the coverage apply to them.

American Home Shield has good and timely service. My bathroom lights were strobe lighting. I already tried changing the bulbs, making sure that they were screwed and tight. It was still strobing. When the guy came here, he put the new light bulb in and it was fine. He just screwed the bulb in and it was good. He told me nothing was wrong. My electricity was fine. So, I paid $100 service call for him to come out and do what I already did. And there was no issue.
I made a different service order one time and the people told me they wouldn't be able to schedule me for two weeks. I called AHS back and said, "I want you guys to give me a different service person." And they said, "Well, we have to call them first and then we'll call you back." So I just said, "Forget it” and kept the people that were scheduled for me. And they were able to get the people call me back and were able to get me in four days. So that turned out to be a positive experience, too.
Great! We appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your AHS needs. Have an amazing week.
