The process of making a claim was smooth. American Home Shield sent a text and told me the people that were going to be calling me. These people called me in about an hour or two saying they would send somebody out. They sent somebody out the next day. Everything was going smoothly. On Wednesday, they called to tell me everything was approved. We just have to wait for American Home Shield to ship a hot water heater. The repair people just went and picked the hot water heater up.
The hot water heater went out a week before I made the call. I had to wait another week to get the hot water heater. Right now, I still don't have hot water. My order has not been completed in a week. That could be improved. With the time it takes to ship the hot water heater, there should be some kind of setup where American Home Shield lets the repair people know if they are shipping the hot water heater and they can use their hot water heater, replace it or vice versa. This was a long-drawn-out process. I just got a call five minutes ago telling me that people are coming and they are about to be in my house in 15 minutes to install my hot water heater.
I've been with American Home Shield for years. This is the first time they ever took this long for a process to happen. This has been the worst experience I've ever had. Usually, a call comes and a person comes out. Either they got to go back and get a part or they do the fix right on the spot. American Home Shield's product is good but it just takes one bad experience that can turn a person off. They need to fix the process when it comes to something like this. The process needs to be sped up. They need to look at this, especially in a situation to replace the hot water. Since I don't have the hot water heater, I have to go to the gym and take a shower or bother somebody to go to their house and take a shower. Overall, I'm a loyal customer and I would recommend American Home Shield because it saves money. It’s just like paying car insurance or house insurance. If something happens later, you're covered.
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done.
We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

We're having an issue with our AC leaking through the ceiling a little bit. The tech has been out twice and he's been great. It's pretty easy to submit a claim. In terms of ease of going into the website and requesting service and then responding and getting the contractor out here, I wouldn't have expected any more. I would definitely recommend AHS to other people.
I've called AHS a few times about other issues and the reps do their best to be helpful. But sometimes it's hard to explain problems over the phone. We've had issues where it smelled like burning electrical and trying to describe that over the phone, it’s sometimes hard to get across because there's no specific button for that. You just put electrical and then if they ask, "What kind of electrical?" It’s hard to put it in words. But AHS responds pretty quickly and people get out as fast as they can. I know some people who are buying houses pretty soon and I told them they should look into trying to get a warranty with AHS.

Our main objective is to provide exceptional service and a quick resolution to all of your home warranty needs.Your feedback regarding your recent experiences with us is greatly appreciated. We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed.

American Home Shield has done great for me. This is my second time having American Home Shield in the last couple of years. I moved into an older home that was about 10 or 15 years old. When I moved in, the Realtor offered American Home Shield, and I took it. It was a great blessing. When I first moved in, the microwave went out. The dishwasher didn't work properly. I had electrical outlet issues where the breakers were flipping because they were too old. Those issues probably weren't as big to anybody else, but they were big to me because I don't know anything about those things. So, having the warranty was great for me.
I have had amazing contractors. There has been one who I question his social skills. He was not unprofessional, but he was not as friendly as all the other ones have been. It was my fault. I was on a call too, and he just did the business. But despite the fact that his demeanor was not as friendly, he absolutely informed me of the risks. That actually was the latest claim that I just had. My water heater was acting up. I called and they sent the guy out from a plumbing company. He went out and looked at it while I was on a call. Then, he came back in. I got off the call and he told me, “Ma'am, you have an issue and you need to turn off your water heater and not turn it back on. It's a fire hazard right now." I just kept babying that water heater. My son just kept going out there and hitting the switch.
What was happening was every time he hit that switch, sparks would fly. Maybe if it was a gas water heater instead of electric, it would have blown up. The guy informed me of the hazard, which because he couldn't fix it for a few days, we could have continued to go play with that switch and caused a fire. So, the outcome was perfect. Not everybody has to be social. They still do a good job. I started out questioning, “Oh, no, what is this guy going to tell me? I don't know the answers. He’d probably pull the wool over my eyes and tell me I need to do $10,000 worth of work, and I don't have it.” That was the initial thought I had, but it didn't happen that way at all.
At the end of the day, that vendor had integrity because apparently, they gave me a quote and ended up not having to do everything they thought they were going to and I got a small refund for the difference of what I paid in advance. I never expected anybody to give me any money back when they tell you what it’s gonna cost. So, I was really pleased with that vendor, too. The electrician that they've sent out multiple times, I'm in love with his personality and his charm. He is the representation of professional. He was educating, doesn't intimidate you, doesn't make you feel bad, doesn't make you feel un-knowledgeable, and he built rapport and trust. I would call him back multiple times.
I call AHS every time I need a service, and they've been really good. I don't use the online service, which they keep trying to tell me to use, and I'm okay with that. Eventually, I will when I learn what is covered and what's not. But I'm a budgeter. So, I need to know, when I go in, is it a covered issue or not? So that I can plan my next steps. I don't have a lot of patience to submit a request and then have them tell me it's not covered. I want to know when I'm submitting it if it covered or not.
This last call on the plumbing, there was a letter that they sent out for uncovered items. It could use some elaboration. Also, the call center people could use some education. They sent me a letter telling me about the uncovered items for the water heater, and how they don't cover the city ordinance, city standards, and all of that. I consider myself a fairly intelligent, educated person that can read really well but my interpretation on that letter was, after they committed, after they installed that water heater, they were telling me they weren't going to cover it. So, that letter was too brief and needs some help. And when I called in, the person I received on the phone, while they tried their best to understand what I was trying to tell them, they couldn't relate.
Eventually, they probably got so frustrated and they said, “You’ve already got the work done, and you already paid the money for it, so just ignore the letter.” At that point, I had come to the same conclusion that, “Dang it, I'm just going to forget it. If they need more money, they'll call me. Or if they're mad at me, because I've got a water heater that I shouldn't have had, I hope they don't call me for more money."
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done.
We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Enjoy your day.

I had an indicator light on saying that there was a burner on heat on my oven. But there wasn't and I couldn't get the indicator light off. The techs came out and fixed it right away. It seemed that there was a loose wire flying around in there. All in all, my AHS warranty is great and it's worth the $50 a month I'd pay for it. I live in an older home and if you're buying an older home, I would recommend getting some coverage like American Home Shield because things aren't all new. Any appliance that can break is discovered by the warranty like the washing machines, dryers, and my heat pump.
The claims process is also very simple with AHS and I never had any trouble. I usually just send a text and they come back with a list of people or tell me that someone's been notified and the person calls me. Then, depending on what the issue is, it usually doesn't take very long for the tech to come out. I live in Washington state and right now, there's a lot of building going on. I understand there can be some waits, but I haven't had any.

The compressor of my air conditioner was running but it wasn't cooling. I got information from AHS on who the contractor was and that an appointment had been set up. I called the contractor and as I hung up with the lady who told me when the visit was set up, I got the call from the appointment setter person who told me “Go ahead and shut things down, because if it's frozen up when we get here, they're not gonna to be able to work on it until it thaws out.”
I submitted the claim late Wednesday night. I spoke to the contractor on Thursday and they couldn't come till the following Tuesday. I shut the air conditioner down and I tried turning it back on again Sunday. It cooled for a while. I checked with the service people and told them that the air conditioner was working-ish but I was not sure what to do. The rep said that they were coming out anyway and to turn the unit back off. By the time the tech came back, he said the unit had frozen up again. He found that something with a spring in it was not functioning correctly. The compressor thing outside was running and running but it wasn't cooling. It would freeze up when it would try to cool. The tech was here for an hour and got the unit fixed. It's working fine now.
I tried another home warranty company before because I thought it might be better. But I was not impressed and needless to say, I'm back with AHS. Things have changed in the 20 years that I've owned this house. We had AHS from the time we bought the house and it's a lot longer turnaround on calls than it was back in the day. This is also summer and everybody needs their air conditioning running. The air conditioning is a priority when it's 90-plus degrees outside.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.
We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

My recent claim experience was deplorable. June 25th was the first call on the AC and within an hour, American Home Shield had taken the $100 deductible out of my account before anybody had even been out here. A week later, the condenser blew up and they were messing around. They told me I had to wait for approval on that. I told them I couldn't wait for approval. I explained to them where we live is a very tiny town. We get a lot of military in here that does training. That particular timeframe, we had military. We have a Hilton brand hotel here in town and we had no rooms. Nobody had rooms other than the one that was $35 a night and I wouldn't even put my dog there.
American Home Shield was supposed to get ahold of me after 24 hours because we ended up having to pay for an air conditioner. They tell me that 106 plus outside, and I'm riding at 92 inside, is not an extreme when I have a husband that's on heat risk meds. What would have happened if we would have had to wait for them? A week ago Saturday, we were 123 outside. We've been running at 117 for the last two weeks.
I don't get US call centers. I traveled the world and never left my chair. We went four days and three nights with no AC. We paid over $7,000 to get our air conditioner fixed. Half the stuff was never told to us, that we were going to incur the cost of freon and that was almost $900. They said, “Since you paid for it, we'll get back with you with a reasonable offer back.” But nobody has gotten ahold of me. Nobody's asked me anything. I told them this would be the last time because I'm going to cancel it and find another person. Also, I'm still dealing with issues with my washing machine that never got fixed. I am so unhappy right now.
Thank you for reaching out to us in relation to your washer. We do apologize for any inconvenience and it is not our intent to cause a delay. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

My gas water heater stopped working. I went up into the attic where the system is and I find out that it was turned off. I tried to restart it and it didn’t. I asked my wife to call American Home Shield and they set up an appointment for a couple of days after. They sent a technician and the technician came over and said the water heater turned off as a safety measure because it had an internal leak. The bottom pan was dripping outside. He said the water heater was due for replacement and he handled all that. He reported back to American Home Shield and we got approved.
We got the approval on a Friday and they said I was gonna get a call whenever they get the new water heater. They were not counting the weekend, so we had to wait until the next Tuesday. That Tuesday, the same technician was supposed to go pick up the water heater at Home Depot but he said that his van broke, so we had to wait until Wednesday. The whole thing took about 10 days. They could have done a little better on the timing but I'm very satisfied.
Five months before this, we had a call on the second water heater and American Home Shield ended up sending an AC technician. My wife said it was a water heater but they understood that it was the heat pump or something with the AC. That was not a good experience. We also called in for our trash disposal and it was something easy and pretty quick. Overall, it’s worth it to have American Home Shield insurance on appliances.

Sears came out for our clothes dryer recently. It was making a loud, mechanical noise noise as it tumbled. They said they had to order a part. They did that and gave me another appointment two weeks later to install the part. I had one issue that never did get quite resolved but for the most part, American Home Shield is an awesome company. They do what they say they're going to do. Their contractors come by, look at my issue and they either fix it or American Home Shield replace it. The contractors have all been very professional except for one experience that I had. One of the companies that American Home Shield chose to fix something was negligent.

Every time I've had an issue, it’s always been resolved well by AHS. I submit my claims online with them and it's so easy. Recently, the heating wasn't working on the dryer, so it was blowing air but it wasn't getting hot. The techs came out super quickly and fixed it immediately. It was just the igniter on the gas and they took care of it in less than a half-hour. And they got out here the next morning, which was unheard of. So that was cool, too.

My claim with AHS for the heating and the air conditioning went beautifully. The issue was resolved to my satisfaction. Metropolitan Heating & Air was very professional. I was very satisfied with that. However, we have four policies with AHS and we're new customers, we had a call that was for another property for a repair to a stove and AG Appliances did a very poor job. The communication was not good and AHS didn't cover the item. It was a disaster.
When I talked to the person that sold us the policy, she gave us information that made me believe that there was a 30-day wait period after we signed up. And then it was my understanding that anything would be covered after that. But when we had them come out for the stove, they said that it was a preexisting condition and so they did not cover it. They didn't even look at the stove. The salespeople have to be more transparent. I don't know if I used the term “preexisting conditions” but I said, "Don't you do an inspection? How do you control what people turn in for claims?" They said, they just wait the 30 days. They didn't say anything about a preexisting condition.
We had a couple more issues. One of them was we set up four properties with this insurance at the same time and I wanted the bills to be paid annually. Two of them were paid annually, and two of them got set up on a monthly bill, which was very inconsistent with my bookkeeping. So I called them back and they rectified that situation. But I have no idea why that happened.
Then another thing that happened was, two of the properties that we signed up were duplexes and they don't cover just part of a duplex, they cover the whole thing. But when the property is registered online, it only had one address. It looks like only half of it was covered. I called AHS about a week ago to get that rectified and they said it was rectified but it wasn't. But the person I talked to was very helpful. I had a very good experience with Ada.

There was a lot of corrosion around the socket of the oven light. I couldn't even unscrew it. I had someone from Home Shield come out and he managed to get the thing open and changed the bulb but the bulb didn't last long. Then, this fellow came and he had trouble getting it open. He did some tapping on the glass and it opened. He switched out a new bulb and he was gone. I had a problem with my air conditioner. The tech diagnosed it and it was two parts that they installed. It worked for one day and then didn't work again. They had to order more parts which took two weeks to get in. They put the part they ordered in, the AC worked one day and then broke down again. I gotta wait a week for them to get back to see me and then wait two weeks for the parts. It's been two and a half months and it's still not fixed. So far, I'm not really happy. I live in Phoenix, Arizona, and it's been 118 here so not having an AC is costing me. I have two temporary units and it's costing more on electricity and what I had to pay for those units.
AHS had a second opinion guy come and he tried to make me pay for Freon that I had already paid for with the other contractor. That took a while to resolve but the original contractor came back out. I didn't have to pay a service call but it was still surprising that I wasn't getting the original guy out. Also, I'm not happy with AHS's call center. They're not from here. The first time I called, it was 45 minutes on hold. Then, I talked to somebody who said that I was going to get a callback but I never got one. I waited two or three days and then I called back.

American Home Shield is usually pretty quick and efficient in getting things done. I had a claim for an AC fan that went out in the AC unit and they fixed that. It's just sometimes they have contractors that aren't the greatest. I had to use them a while back for a plumbing issue and unfortunately, the guy caused a whole bunch of damage and literally punctured a hole in my plumbing. Then we had to cut the wall open and then water was leaking in the walls. It was somewhat fixed with the rough patch. But now I have to have my walls textured and painted which they don't cover. Now it's going to cost me more money to have some of it fixed. But other than that, American Home Shield is good and I haven't had any issues with them in general.

I’ve used American Home Shield dozens of times over the last several years. Recently, a plumber came for a toilet repair but he could not perform the repair because there was structural damage that prevented him from doing so. The flooring under the toilet wasn't flat and the plumber said I would need to get the floor fixed first.
Basing on my experience through the years with the home warranty, things get fixed eventually one way or another. It is never fixed the first time. Technicians always come out and investigate and they order parts then they can come and fix the problem. Simple appliance repairs are usually fairly straightforward. But other things are sometimes more complicated.
One thing American Home Shield could do that would be valuable is they can offer a service provider. I had issues in the past where the plumber that they offered up wasn't any good. I had to call the home warranty back and ask them to assign somebody else. It was very tedious. American Home Shield could say, “Here's your assigned plumber. But if you want to use B or C, here are our options.” They could then follow up with an email or some sort of documentation. “It looks like you're doing a toilet repair. Just so you know, your coverage includes A, B, and C, and it does not include D, E, and F.” You can save effort in those regards.

Texas Plumber did good work. The guy they sent to me, was very cordial, kind and nice. He explained what happened. He was very honest, said, “American Home Shield won’t pay for me to move this plaster, water-resistant thing. You gotta come out of your pocket.” So, in order to get some water, I had to come out $110. I don't think that was fair to me. Calling AHS was also difficult and I understand that. The going online part is fairly easy. But sometimes, I'll be away and I can't get online. Even I got my phone, I just can't just go ahead to get online. Sometimes stuff happens when I am not near a computer. But, so far, when I go on the website, it's been no problem. But I'm really thinking about switching out and going to somebody else. Because all the years, I had issues with AHS. When I first got American Home Shield, it's been like that at one point and during the years, it seemed like it didn't fade away.

I had a problem with a washer. The guy came, looked at it a bit and said, "Okay, I've seen this before. We can't fix this. We could, but it would cost way more than a new washer, so it's ridiculous." So, he said, "I'm going to recommend American Home Shield replace the washer." And that's what they did. However, on that ticket, somebody ordered the parts for the washer, which they weren't supposed to do. We got a check from AHS and everything was great. We went and purchased a new washer. But we kept getting these parts and we got four boxes of them. The repairman said they're very expensive. That's why they elected to replace the washer rather than try to fix it. But I don't know who to give the parts to.
One time, I called and got ahold of a Sears guy and he said he would try to report it to whoever and I never heard anything from him. And I couldn't get ahold of the repair person. They came out of Livingston, Texas and they were Sears employees. But they don't have a number. If you call their 800 numbers, you get somebody in the Philippines. They don't know what you're talking about. Some of the fair people in the foreign country don't speak very good English or is very difficult to try to deal with, so AHS might want to get somebody here in the United States that you can get ahold of and communicate with because it's hard. This one guy said he's in the Philippines, I asked him where he was. And I said, "Oh, my Lord, no wonder." Now, this was Sears, but who they hire to fix things, with Sears, that's not very good. I had a problem with a refrigerator and AHS had a problem getting parts but they did fine.

The contractor called and said when he would be here. Then, he called back and said he finished the job quicker than he thought so he came and finished the job. He changed the M plug which was controlling everything on the patio and everything started working. All my cooking equipment is out there on the patio and I do a lot of cooking out there. The repair put all that back into action. American Home Shield is worth the money that you spent. They're very good and excellent.

However, I've tried to request service online but couldn't complete it. It used to be easier. I had the call to get the things that I needed to have done. But American Home Shield is a good service and the cost is minimal. I told some ladies that are in my group at my church about them. One of them has it already and she's quite satisfied. I heard really good things about American Home Shield. So, I decided to go with them. I wish the dang price is still down low like when I first started. I started out at $43 a month. Now, I'm at $62.26 a month. But if anything was to go wrong, it would be covered. I thought about switching to another company at one time because of the price being cheaper than AHS, but it just didn't really work for me.

My bathroom sink is still leaking. The repair guy is saying it's because the sink is not molded to the countertop and the pipe is gonna keep coming loose because the sink is moving. So, water is coming from the pipe that connects the drain line under the sink bowl in the bathroom. I still got the water piling up underneath the sink, so I can’t use my sink. Then, I had other people who came with the air conditioner. The repair guy from Mister Plumber came once before. My sink had an issue on it and he replaced it with a dollar store plastic faucet. I could have gone and bought a faucet for $75. I wasn’t home when he came for underneath my sink, so I could tell American Home Shield about the plastic faucet he stuck on mine. I didn’t realize until I went to use it that it was literally plastic.

I've been filing claims online where I'll do it over my phone. I'll go to the website, click on my account, click on the item, and hit "Request Service". It's done within five minutes. American Home Shield covers 95% of my appliances, if not 100%, and it's a headache I don't have to deal with. They step up to the plate and get it handled for me. I don't have to figure out what's wrong with it and where to take it. The big part of having their service is the convenience. I've told friends and family that.
Also, the quality of the contractors has gotten better. The first couple of years when I started with AHS, I had issues with getting service, talking to the customer representatives, and dealing with some of the technicians or contractors that came out. But within the last year or two, it's been perfect. All the people that came out took care of business and were knowledgeable. A recent one was with the refrigerator's ice maker. All Home Appliances Repair's tech was quick. He diagnosed the problem, got right to it, and got it taken care of. I couldn't have been more satisfied.

There was a lack of communication from HSA. We went a month without air conditioning in our home and it was very uncomfortable. We understand people are doing the best they can but I told them numerous times we have a three-and-a-half-year-old and a three-month-old child. We were concerned because no one was sleeping well. I ended up calling HSA over a dozen times, spending about six hours of my time after I started totaling everything up, to ultimately continue to be dissatisfied with the service.
Part of the original issue was the vendor that was contracted out to us took a few days to get here. Then, when we told them that we were interested in knowing what options we had as far as higher efficiency units and everything, it took them a week and a half to get back with us on pricing after multiple calls to them. We also found out that HSA had gone ahead and approved certain parts of our repairs and told the vendor to go ahead and order it without ever contacting us. I received no communication whatsoever on any of this.
Then, they said I have to have an authorization form done for the cash-out option and they would expedite it for me only to have them almost go the full 48 hours. When I called again, they said it's expedited but they have to answer those in the order they're received. It was not exactly expediting them if that was the case. Also, there were times when I was told I would be transferred, only to be on hold for over an hour, and some of the customer service agents didn't seem to be sympathetic. I was told numerous times I'd have a call back within 24 hours or a supervisor this and that. But never did I ever receive a call from HSA to discuss my issues further.
Ultimately, we decided to do the cash-out option. We were disappointed with the amount that was offered to us because it is not anywhere close to what it cost to have the repairs done. And we had to have a whole new unit. But the people in the cash-in-lieu department were much more understanding. They got back to me. The things that were the most frustrating were the lack of customer service and communication.
We do apologize for any inconvenience as it relates to the air conditioner. We would love to speak to you in relation to the air conditioner and come to a resolution. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

I submitted a claim in the morning and a tech was here that afternoon. He put a screwdriver in it, unplugged it, and it's been working fine. I paid a little more than what I needed to but if you don't know that stuff, then you pay for what you need to. All in all, having AHS averages out the cost of repairs. One time it might be that the work wouldn't take much, and the other time it could be taking more. Things are easier with AHS, too and it's almost like making payments on future repairs.

With my refrigerator claim, I paid twice because I had to observe it and see if it was actually fixed. But they said if it was over 30 days, I had to pay again and I paid two service fees of $200. I thought that was unfair. It was the same refrigerator and the same work order. It was the same for the air conditioner - I had to pay twice, although one of the representatives said that for that, they might reimburse me. Also, communicating with AHS is very difficult because they put me on hold for so long till I have to go and recharge my phone. I leave a number for a callback and sometimes I miss the callback. I love American Home Shield and when we first bought our house back in 1999, I tell anybody this is who we deal with. When it came to my air conditioner though, my experience was horrible. The guys that came out to fix my AC were very nice, but they said the compressor had locked up in it. I ended up paying the $100 for the service fee for them to come out, plus the 400-something for the coolant. I shouldn't have had to pay what they wanted me to pay because the compressor is supposedly set up under warranty.
I told them, “Y’all bought a brand-new unit. How in the world this unit went out this fast, the compressor in it, fast?” It wasn’t even a year. Air conditioners don’t go out like that. I was really ticked about the situation. Once upon a time, I thought American Home Shield was the best name company and I still like them. However, it’s almost like I got to constantly talk to the company. I shouldn’t have to constantly say something to them. I'm paying every month.

American Home Shield offers routine maintenance every year where they can check the air conditioning at the beginning of the year. If there's an issue, they can fix it and that way, during the summer, for the most part, you shouldn't have any problem. They do it also in the winter, for the gas furnace. I've had AHS for a good 10 years. 85% of the people on my street have had their conditioning replaced and my air conditioner is 13 years old.
I pay $72 a month for the home warranty and if there's a problem, I pay $85 and they come out to fix it and AHS picks up with the labor and the parts. Also, when a contractor takes too long to get back to me, I call them back and they find another company. With a recent service request, the company they first assigned was gonna take seven days to have a technician come out, which was not acceptable. I called AHS back and they went into their system and found another company. The company called me on the same day and told me they would have a technician out there on Wednesday. Then, the technician came out and did everything he was supposed to do.

We contacted them because our dishwasher stopped working. Then within a week, the service tech came out from the local Sears area to inspect our unit and see if it could be repaired. It was a pretty quick turnaround. The person that came out was very respectful of our home. He asked a couple of questions, and he got right to work. He was very focused on what he was doing. I was right there with him the whole time in the kitchen. He went through all the steps. He performed his inspection and diagnosed the issue. He said the machine that we had was discontinued and that he wouldn't be able to repair and it would have to be a replacement. The offer that I was given as far as replacement of the failed equipment was fair. So overall, the plan with AHS is well-priced and the response to service request is quick and professional.

The plumbing had stoppage with my washer, where the water drains out of the washer and drains into the plumbing system. The techs came in and they were very professional. They addressed it and they did a great job. One time, I also called American Home Shield about my ceiling fan that no longer had the little chain link thing that turned it on. It disconnected from the ceiling fan. AHS told me that they couldn't fix it because it was a human problem and they said I put too much pressure behind that. But it wasn't like I was going to swing on my ceiling fan.
Other than that, my experience with American Home Shield has been a pleasant one and I've recommended them to a number of people that have signed up. Also, the process to submit a claim with AHS has been easy because I do it online. However, trying to get somebody on the phone is not. It's probably easier to catch up with the President. You’re on hold for the longest time, which can be good as that means that they have people that are using their service. But when they have a lack of people in the call center that's responding to calls, then there's going to be long lines all the time. So, the best suggestion that I would give them is to make sure that there's enough people available to answer calls in a more timely manner.

The tech was wonderful. He identified the problem with the kitchen sink and said that he fixed it. But if it happens again, I had to call and order a certain part because the actual cable that was connected was leaking. He also said, "This is a lifetime warranty and you should never have to pay for this." Three days later, the sink started leaking again so I called and they sent the new part.
When I went online to schedule another appointment, I opened to a new ticket. So, AHS was gonna charge me $100 for the tech to come out and it was only within 10 days. The plumbing company said, "No, you don't open a new ticket." It was so awesome that they were so helpful and wanting to make sure I wasn't being overcharged and make sure I got everything that I needed done. The tech put the part in and even took pictures of it and sent it to me. He also told me about the wire I needed and took a picture of it. I called the company and they were like, "What model and what wire?". It was so awesome that the tech shared the pictures with me. I emailed the pictures.
I'm very happy with AHS's customer service and the cost. Prior to AHS, I was with Sears and I had an issue there which required me to seek out new customer service. The issue was for my washer and dryer whom I purchase through Sears and it took almost eight months to get the situation rectified and to get me a new one. Sears didn't want to pay me for that. I didn't expect to have to use my warranty service so soon upon having it, but I was grateful and thankful that I have it. I had an awesome experience.

An electrician came in and diagnosed the problem. He was efficient and fast. I didn't have power supply in my kitchen and he replaced the switch, which took 10 minutes at most. Everything worked fine after that. There were a few other minor things as well, where some safety switches were activated, and he just pointed those out. But the other issues were not real issues.
Last year, I had an issue with my oven and my experience with that was a little bit rough. When the techs first came out, they fixed it but the next day, it broke again. On the second time they came out, they fixed it again. But then, it broke within five minutes and I didn't even use it. Then it took more time to go through the process and they left me here without an oven for three months. But at the end of the day, AHS replaced my oven. In general, they match requirements and the functionalities. But at the time, they didn't have a matching oven. They offered me one that matches the functionalities of my old oven, but it was not available and I ended up paying extra cost when I bought one oven with some matching functionalities from the American Home Shield site.
Another thing I filed a claim on was on the fridge. The techs came and fixed it because the freezer wasn't working. But I told them that even when it was working, it was not really cooling enough. I asked them what we should do to fix that problem and they said that if I had another problem, I should file another claim. All in all, AHS is a good service and the whole idea is stress-free. With them, things are fast as well if you don't know who to contact. Plus, the cost is not that much. I pay $40 a month and for my last claim, I had three issues on the electric side. Two of them ended up not being an issue, but if I had to call someone to address those issues, I would have paid $200 or $300 because there were several issues. But I just paid $75 and just saved $220. I might save more later in the year.

I like the convenience, the speed, and the courtesy of the people who come in to do the job, and it's guaranteed. I couldn't get that somewhere else. It's simple to submit a claim with AHS. I find it easier when I don't have to speak to somebody because it definitely sounds like it's a call center in another country. I like it when I call and I can speak through the phone system. I prefer to talk to someone in the US versus a call center. But I don't think that, as a consumer, we’ll ever be able to really get that.
I had a claim in April. The person never showed up. So, they owed me a refund for that service request. I was calling every few weeks to get the status of the refund and then, told it was processed, but the next person said it hasn't been processed, and they'll process it. That's been a pain. Then, today, when I called, they said, “They tried to refund your card, but they said there's something wrong with your card.” I said, “Okay, will you guys ever plan on contacting me to let me know that there was trouble with my card? It's just coincidental that I called you this morning and I found this out?” Their communication sucks.

Also, he was out three times before he even ran a diagnostic test. I tried to talk to American Home Shield and they didn't seem to care. I waited and waited. I called again and another guy came out and said everything was running fine. These are two companies that represented American Home Shield's business. One was trying to rip off people and they still work for the home warranty company. The second guy that came, however, was fantastic.
American Home Shield should listen to the consumer. They were just trying to blow me off saying that I wasn't going to pay for service. They offered to give me free service for this other guy to come out here a week ago. But I said I would pay for the service. I want someone who is fair and honest. I wasn't trying to get out of paying anything. I'll pay whatever I got to pay. I also had American Home Shield when I lived out in the country. Their contractor came out and replaced the blower because it was too small for the unit. It was not circulating enough air. That job was done right.

I typically call American Home Shield's phone number for my claims and have a credit card ready to pay the fee. We pay over $100 a month for the home warranty and it would be nice if, at each occurrence, the $100 thing was reduced. If the problem comes out to something stupid like the breaker is off, that's not something that should warrant $100 in addition to what we are already paying every month. The overall price is expensive. I pay it just to avoid when an AC would go out and it would cost me seven grand. But when you don't use the home warranty service for so long, it's like, "I just spent $1,400 for the year. Did I get my money's worth?" You start questioning if it would make sense to keep the home warranty. If I don't use the service in two years, that's $2,800 that I could use towards another major upgrade of some sort.
American Home Shield is like an insurance policy. It insures me against multiple things breaking. There's no sense in wiping out my savings for an AC and something else. It's good to stay ahead of unforeseen big things breaking. I'm good with the monthly cost and price of my home warranty. It all balances out down the road in the end. I used the warranty for my AC. I knew what was wrong based on the environment, what was going on with the heat that week, and what was probably broken. The tech quickly looked at where I pointed out and he agreed. He made the change and it all took about 20 minutes.
We bought this house about three years ago and I knew I would be fixing and upgrading things. There were gonna be things that were broken. Getting a home warranty was the best thing to do. It's good if one can afford the home warranty. It's good to have provided that one uses it within the three-year period. If not, it's just wasting a lot of money. American Home Shield covers enough things and enough things break in a house. Any time I called, there were good. The only downside was a couple of times in the beginning, I paid a good monthly amount as well as the $100 and I was told by the contractor that they could get to me in two or three weeks.
Based on the vendor that Home Shield is dealing with, they should do their best to get that time reduced greatly. If you're paying 100 some dollars a month and paying 100 bucks on top of that, you should have someone here the next day. That makes me almost want to get away from the home warranty and just start dealing with contractors individually. I can probably get someone here quickly.
We appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your AHS needs. I do apologize for any inconvenience. Have an amazing week.

American Home Shield screwed me on my tankless water heater. I ended up having to buy a brand-new water heater instead of them fixing it. That pissed me off, but they did right with me when they got somebody out there for the refrigerator. I called and the only problem I had was they couldn't get anybody out there on a Saturday. I work Monday through Friday, so I had to take time off work. With the thousands of money I lost through work, I could have bought a new refrigerator. Other than that, I was given between 12:00 and 5:00, and the tech showed up at 2:00. He said the freezer part was stuck on defrost because the drain thing was frozen up and the drain tray was chipped somehow. He was wonderful. Also, I've been trying to get people to get American Home Shield, ‘cause it helps.

American Home Shield has some nice contractors that are working for them out in the Victorville area in California. The last guy that was out had to replace the valve on a dishwasher that wouldn't shut off and he was great. The guy that did the icemaker in the refrigerator was another super guy. I've also called for the air conditioner, twice (there's been a couple things on it) and we had a problem with a different refrigerator as well. I like American Home Shield's service a lot. I have referred a lot of people and they like it too.

We've had three claims with AHS in the last two weeks and every single time we were calling, we would have to wait 10-plus minutes to talk to somebody. It was difficult. Then the last work order that we had requested was today, and we had to call three times because they kept sending us a company that doesn't work in this area. So they would cancel our request and nobody would tell us. We waited 48 hours and found out that the company cancelled it. But we've been happy with the people that have come out to our house. They have been professional and they come on time.

American Home Shield is responsive. I usually get a phone call from their providers fairly quickly. I also haven't had any issues with any of the appliances being repaired such as the air conditioner, the washing machine, and the dishwasher. We had all of those taken care of. American Home Shield is a good service and I like it. A lot of warranty companies don't get great feedback. American Home Shield is said to be the best of the worst. People have had problems with them from what I've read. In my case, the only problem I ever had with them was when somebody was supposed to come out and never came out, but American Home Shield still charged me the $100 fee. It took me a few phone calls to get that reimbursed. Other than that, I really haven't had any problems with them.

It's been difficult trying to get my AC repaired. May Heating and Air came out and did what they were supposed to do. The technician believes that the compressor is going that's why it's not blowing or it's not cooling properly. I'm waiting for them to come back out. Every time I called AHS, I'd get a 48-hour excuse saying that they were waiting for the complete diagnostics from the technician, which the technician told me when he was leaving my house that he was going to submit the diagnostic. I called May Heating and Air this morning and the lady there has the confirmation that the diagnostic was submitted. She told me that she would resubmit it, which she already did. She gave me the confirmation that AHS gave her once the diagnostic was submitted.
I’d like AHS to do a better job. Their response team needs to be revamped so that customers can get the claims out a little quicker. If they have plumbing, AC, washer and dryer, if there are various people in different areas, then the claims would go a little bit easier. I submitted a claim on the 28th. Today is the 8th. I'm still waiting, and I'm not very happy about that.

Anytime there was an issue with appliances not working properly, AHS managed to get everything in good working order. I had an appliance claim over at my other residence and that was great. However, the service right now is sucking pretty bad. Recently, a showerhead wasn't working properly. The water wasn’t able to come out of the spigot. The previous homeowners apparently had had difficulty with tightening it up and had scraped all of the coloring off it and it didn't have a drain in it. When a plumber came in, he said, "I can go down there and buy a stopper for that.” I said, “If a stopper was all I needed, I could have went to the dollar store and bought a stopper. The showerhead doesn't work.” He put a silver stopper in though it’s a bronze bath set and left it.

The icemaker was not working. There’s an auger-type screw that pulls the ice forward to the dispenser in the door. The motor that drives that gave out so that screw wasn't able to operate. A technician with Accord Appliance came out and ordered the part. A week later, he came out to install it. He got the auger to work. A part of the problem was we are having water somehow spray onto the ice that's in the basket that collects in place for the ice. It would freeze cubes of ice together so the icemaker couldn't properly dispense them.
The technician had to turn the water off going to the refrigerator so that it wouldn't spray all over when he took the parts out. The water was coming from a reverse osmosis filtration system under our sink. It's three filters and the house water runs through that. It then sends water off to the refrigerator and to the sink. When we went to turn the water back on, we didn't get any pressure from the filters under the sink. The technician said they don't work on those. We needed to get that fixed so he hooked it up to directly go to the house water. Water is not getting filtered right now.
I'm a little surprised I haven't heard from American Home Shield yet. They were waiting for the final report from Accord Appliance. I talked to American Home Shield late last week and they said maybe they would get it on Friday or early next week. That would be today or yesterday. We used Accord Appliance before and for the most part, they're fine. I was just a little surprised by their guy. His whole attitude was very weird. It was a problem they caused but they can't spend 10 minutes to try to fix it. Since he broke something, he should deal with it. It could be as simple as a reset button somewhere that we missed. We're waiting to hear from American Home Shield about how we move forward in fixing this filtration problem.
That aside, American Home Shield’s been great. I usually just call and submit a claim rather than do it online. That way, I've actually told a real person about the problem. They then get on it right away. We had other home warranty companies before and when we had a claim, they would say that somebody would be out in four weeks. That was crazy. But when we signed up with American Home Shield, it was fast.

It's easy to get on the website. And then, when you put your issue, it's not under the subcategories. It's too much. And I have to call in. American Home Shield needs some type of function. I tried something, but it didn't work. It didn't help and I kept trying and trying and I just got frustrated, so I had my daughter do it. I was then given some information which didn't happen for a couple of days. To set expectations for us is not a good thing to do, and then we look forward to something that will happen, especially when we work. The people on the phone are the first point of contact and they're the face of the company. So, there should be ongoing training for them. Also, it has been quite a few that I've had to question where American Home Shield got them from. But I've had two contractors that were professional and knew what they were doing.

The process with American Home Shield could use some improvement. There have been several times where when I talk to a person on the phone about making a claim, they say, “You can go to the website.” I tell them, "I need help that's why I’d like to talk to someone.” They tell me they'll help me and I explain what's going on. But it never fails that something doesn't get submitted right between the operator I talked to and the person that shows up in the house who would say, "We didn't know that.”
I had an electrical issue where there were three different things going on. I had one set of lights that didn't work. On the other side of the house, I had two electrical outlets that didn't work then on the other end of the house, I had a switch that didn't work. The guy that showed up said, “All I was told about was a switch. I don't have time to work on these other ones. You gotta work that out with AHS.” It was a pain.
Another time, the reps told me to go to the automated calls and explain what was going on. But that automated call center will only allow certain things to be done. Then when it caused problems when the tech showed up, I called American Home Shield and told them, "This is what I explained. Now, the guy’s showing up saying they don't have that." American Home Shield said, "When you call in through the automated system, you can't do this. You would have to call us.” I said, “Every time I call you, you tell me to use the automated system. I finally used the automated system. Now, you’re telling me I've got to call you.” The techs American Home Shield sends out sometimes know they're on a limited budget for American Home Shield. They're gonna do the bare minimum because American Home Shield is trying to say, “Don't go out there and rack up a big bill. You just need to do what you need to do to get this system going.”
Two weeks ago, my air conditioner quit working. The guy came out and did a great job. He said it was probably the refrigerant. He checked it in five minutes then told me the refrigerant was fine. He did a couple other tests. It was a capacitor that blew. He had one on his truck and was in and out in 30 minutes. My AC was working. I was very happy with that. Even though I had to pay $100 for the contractor to come out for 30 minutes’ worth of work, I got my money's worth because they didn't try to upsell me a whole new system.
At my house in North Carolina where I also have American Home Shield, the air conditioner stopped working. I called the number that was on the air conditioner from the previous owner. A company came out and said, "This thing is not working. It's obsolete. We can't get a new one. You got to have a whole new system.” The cost was $15,000. My wife remembered that we got American Home Shield so we called them. A contractor came out and said, “We got to take the refrigerant out, fix the part, then put the refrigerant back in. The part and labor are covered but doing the refrigerant back and forth is not. We're gonna have to charge you another $150.” I was happy to pay $150 more instead of 15 grand. I would recommend American Home Shield but I’d tell others they gotta be very clear during the call-in process if they're needing two or three things looked at.

The issue I had initially was with my furnace and I had it replaced. Most systems were installed simultaneously so they aged at the same time. So, since my furnace was having an issue, I asked I could have somebody look at my AC as well. I was told that I needed to submit a different claim, which was the dumbest thing in the world. I would have had to pay an extra $100 to have same company come out the same time to do a different thing. Still, the contractor was alright and they were on time. It turned out there was a clogged line that was preventing the AC from functioning properly.

They said it's outside of our foundation. They also would not fix the ducts in there so it was a bit of a mess. They fixed some stuff that we could have fixed on our own. It started out good with AHS but every time we turned around, they were not going to cover something, even the plumbing inside the house. So we couldn't use our front bathroom, which was one of the reasons we called. The knob seized up because it was leaking and AHS said that they wouldn’t cover anything that seizes. It’s confusing. Unfortunately, the technician did not arrive at my home until 7 that evening. After completing the diagnostic, the technician stated that AHS would be in touch with for the next steps. The 24-48 hour window regarding when someone would be in touch about if/when my A/C unit will be repaired has long passed. I have contact customer service SEVERAL times and no one seems to have any updates except "we are waiting for the detailed diagnostic test to be submitted". It is well into the high 80's in Atlanta! I also have three-year-old at home.
I find it VERY inconsiderate and concerning that AHS does not make a priority on heating and air issues. More importantly, it is very unprofessional for the contractor and AHS to have customers waiting for days about the repairing process. Unfortunately, most of the representatives are difficult to understand and relay proper messages. For customers to pay into service each month, we should not have to wait days/weeks for items to be repaired but more importantly receive better service.

That may have changed at some point in time with my membership, but I wasn't really aware of that. So, I could have just called the local local guy to come out, and it would probably cost me about the same or a little less so I'd have better savings.
The claim submission part is easy. I just do it online. Usually, I don’t have to talk to anybody. They usually get right back, tell me when to expect a call from the service provider and that always happens within that timeframe, so it’s fine. Logistically, everything with American Home Shield is above board. You just gotta pay attention to make sure that all the things you expect are what is going to be provided. I was very pleased with AHS when I had it in my previous home for 10 years, and also pleased I was able to get it again for this time.
At my previous home, we had some appliance repairs and replacements, and everything went very smoothly each time. But there was a time at my previous home where the ice thing went out on our refrigerator and I couldn't get it repaired through them. I was unhappy that I had not added the refrigerator in the contract for a few extra dollars. So people should add those major appliances, particularly the air conditioning system, unless they already have a warranty on them somewhere.
I did have difficulty using the AHS website. I wasn't successful in asking for repair that way. They couldn't locate my account for some reason. We have three open claims for our home. When I called and was initially using the automated system this morning, the automated system said two of the three are closed, but they're not. If I hadn't called, I wouldn't have known that they had already closed them. I don't know if the subcontractor closes them or AHS does. I had to get all of that straightened out.
Our dishwasher needs three parts and the dishwasher is an excess of 15 years old, so Sears was contracted out for the dishwasher. They came out three weeks ago. When I called Sears last week, I said, "What is the status of our dishwasher?" They said, "We don't really know, you need to call your warranty company." I said, "Why am I calling the warranty company because you were the people that have been out to the house?"
Sears said that they would send the parts to our home. But if they couldn't get all three parts, then they wouldn't send any. The problem is that the appointment for Sears to come back out was for today. Sears has not called me and said they're coming or not, and that was scheduled between 8:00 and noon today. I called AHS and said, "What's up with the dishwasher?" The rep said the parts were ordered today. I said, "Okay, but nobody showed up at our house, so we're hanging out here waiting for all of this stuff to be fixed. And this has been going on for a minimum of three weeks with all three of these items that need to be repaired."
For the new faucet that the plumbing company said that they were going to replace or get authorization to have it replaced, I asked American Home Shield about that this morning too. The rep said, "You need to call the plumbing company because they're going to follow up with a phone call to you." I texted them at 8 o'clock this morning and nobody's gotten back to me.
So, I'm not so sure that we would use American Home Shield again, because nobody follows up on this stuff. We're a little disappointed right now in the service. I had to pay $1,400 'cause the issue was outside the dwelling. The propane tank was on top of the line. There was no glue around any of the piping so the techs had to dig the whole thing up, put a new one in and move the propane. This warranty is beneficial to have. We've had a couple of different things happen and every time, it's been easy and resolved as best AHS could.
We are grateful for the time that you've taken to share you AHS experience. Please let us know if you need any assistance in regards to your warranty. Have a great week.

A lot of times, when you have a problem and AHS contacts a contractor, it’s too long of a time gap between the problem and the solution. I had an air condition that went out and it was four days before the person that they approved to come out did it. I would like it a little sooner. But the contractor did a good job. Also, having AHS reduces cost, especially if there's a major problem, which is one of the biggest benefits.

American Home Shield contracts with a lot of subcontractors. Gaithersburg Plumbing was okay. I had a claim for my condo. They ended up fixing the small issue I had in my condo. Here in my townhouse, I had a different issue. This is an ongoing thing. American Home Shield’s got the worst reputation ever on home warranties. I didn't realize this until I actually started making claims. I moved to Florida. I bought a house, and it wasn't brand-new. That was when the whole nightmare started. Things took forever here to get fixed. My fridge broke, and they took like three months to replace it. Then my dishwasher broke, and it took them like three months to fix and replace it.
Then in my townhouse in Maryland, it's the same thing. The fridge broke in April and I reported it. I paid $100 deductible. They sent me the Sears subcontractor. The guy said, “Oh, I need X and Y part. Until we get the part, I won't be able to make it back.” The parts got there, but this guy missed two times. It was supposedly May 28 and June 16. In both dates, he was MIA. The tenants are living there. They called me up and said, “Hey, there’s no show on both instances.”
The problem with American Home Shield is they have their call center in Asia. They speak English, but I have to repeat myself 100 times where I am with this ticket. I asked them to explain to me, and they're not able to explain. They scramble around. They make calls, and they put you on hold for hours. At the end of the day, I wanna escalate it to a manager. They're like, “Oh, sorry, sir, but I'm not gonna be able to escalate it. They're gonna give you a call within 48 hours.” They never do. So, it is just a complete fluster. I don't want a call center in Asia. They don't understand the issue. They're nice people but something that is urgent, I don't wanna be repeating myself and spending hours trying to express the same thing in different ways.
Huge issues like my refrigerator should not take them that long. It was the worst experience ever. So, I'm waiting for November to come around, and I wanna cancel both of my contracts for my condo and my townhouse in Maryland. I already canceled my house in Florida. I have already a different home warranty company because of the instance that they took forever to get back to me. Also, AHS lacks the quality of contractors. They should have a measure to say they're only contracting with the best contractors in the area.
I opened up a claim for my microwave when I first moved into this house in Florida. I paid 100 bucks. It was like one of those built-in KitchenAid. It was a high-end oven. But the microwave wasn't working, so I opened it up. It took this guy three months to come and fix just the little rotator on the plate. He kept coming up with excuses like, “Oh, these high-end appliances, I've been doing this for 25 years. And to take these parts, they're not easy to get.” So, the problem with AHS is they just get anyone to work with them. That's not how it works. They should have this quality assurance department that says, “Okay. I'm only going to work with the best in this area in Orlando. I'm only gonna get these qualifying companies.” Apparently, they do have those qualifying qualities, but they suck.
Thank you for providing your feedback. We do apologize for any delays in service. We would love to discuss your issue. My name is Robert and I will be assisting you further.

I made a claim online and it was pretty easy. Then I had to cancel a few times only because we have road construction, and the tech couldn't get in. But when he got here, everything was fine. He was very polite and very professional. He went out and did what he had to do. Then he went downstairs, checked the furnace and the thermostat, then told me everything that he thought. And everything was great. So far, I've had to use AHS twice and both times, things went really well. The first one was for the air conditioner which had to be replaced, and they replaced it for us. AHS is a great company and they have great policies. People should be aware of that.

I got what I expected from my claim experience with American Home Shield. As far as the technician and the company, they seemed good to go. I was satisfied with what the technician was able to accomplish. I was thrown off with what is covered by the home warranty though. It was a little alarming. I have used American Home Shield several times and there were a couple times where it was a bit of emergency situation, and I felt like I didn't get a technician as soon as possible. I had to pull some strings and do some things on my own to get it done.
Also, I don't know if I was misled, but there were a couple of items that I thought I was going to be covered for that I wasn't. But after reading the fine print and digging into it, it does make sense. There was one time where I asked if something was covered under the warranty, and they said they're going to cover it and they'll completely replace the system but come to find out, they only do the repairs for it. So, that was kind of a shocker. But for someone buying a home for the first time or an older home, I would say American Home Shield is a good option. From my own experience, I would recommend them.

The repairman who came for the garage door that wasn't working was great. Having a home warranty, you get a flat rate for a service call and they fix it no matter what the cost is. However, we went round and round with AHS on a refrigerator that failed. It took quite a long time for us to get a replacement done and settled. That was really inconvenient. Fortunately, we had two refrigerators. If AHS is fixing something, it's a pretty handy service to have. But if it's something that's gotta be replaced, hopefully, it's not something like your air conditioner that went dead and you’ve gotta suffer in Virginia heat for a couple weeks till their contractor gets out there. When someone calls AHS and tells them an air conditioner’s down and AHS sends somebody who says, “You gotta wait two weeks to fix it,” then AHS should shut off their air conditioning for two weeks and see what it's like.
The speed on the service calls that we had was satisfactory. We had a couple of things go wrong right in a row and they were fairly quick to get out and identify the issue to repair. They gotta get parts then you gotta wait. That's fine as long as it's not critical, like an AC in the middle of summer or a furnace in the middle of winter.

The heating coil platform was broken so he replaced it and it’s still running, so I'm satisfied so far. It takes a lot of stress off of your back knowing that all your appliances will be covered and it'll be easier to get them repaired than to go buy a new one. So, I would recommend American Home Shield.

A water heater had a burst and it caused some water damage. American Home Shield sent this guy out and he did it wrong. Also, those things had to have a county or city inspector because it was the law. When the inspector came to see it, he said it was the worst job he had ever seen. Wires and pipes were hanging from the ceiling and he said that we didn't need to be using this person. The repair guy eventually lost his license. I called American Home Shield and they sent me somebody else who finally knew what he was doing and we got the permit from the city. But other than that first guy, I've had good service and I’m happy with AHS. I've recommended it to my niece and she’s getting it after years of not having it. When we had issues, AHS was able to respond. But, their response is very slow in terms of the companies they requested. They had Plumbers Inc. out and the techs did the work. But they didn't really fix the leak. They needed to wait for American Home Shield to approve that authorization. They approved it then we got a piece of paper in the mail saying, "Oh, they're not going to do the work." Plumbers Inc. called us back two weeks later, saying our home warranty wasn't gonna cover it and it was gonna cost 265. By that time, we had already paid another plumber. Maybe that it was just a hiccup but we would change warranty companies if we continue to have hiccups like that.

Our AC wasn't turning on, and we were skeptical with the place that American Home Shield was using 'cause this place does not have very good reviews. We even mentioned that when we talked to them, but that was the only people around for the service. Other than that, it was easy to submit the claim. The repair guy came and told us that there was a part that he needed to order and that as soon as it came in, the company will let us know so that we can reschedule for them to fix it. They've already come out and fixed our AC. Having a home warranty works out well. People do their best to maintain things, but they don't know what's going to happen and they never know how long the warranties that they have on their home appliances will last. I had Spa Doctors before and it didn't go smoothly. Someone came out and said that working with a warranty company was difficult and complained about it. I called American Home Shield and let them know how much the people didn't want to work with them and how the contracted company wanted me to work through them instead. But I already paid the monthly fee for the home warranty.
Another time, someone asked for money. I shouldn't be giving them money but they told me it was to move myself up the ladder quicker. I ended up cutting them a check. When you don't have AC and you're held over a barrel, are you going to cut them a check for $50 os are you going to not have AC for a week? If they tell me to cut them a check, I'm gonna cut them a check. Those are the two negative responses. Other than those, Spa Doctors was extremely good even though I did have to reach out to them.
One time, another vendor came out and he was supposed to fix the icemaker. He told me that the water lines were the issue and not the icemaker. I hired Columbus Handyman to come out and look at that. They came out and said what the vendor said was false. I then called American warranty back and asked them to send me someone else. They did and those people replaced the icemaker.
The home warranty has been a little bit of a hassle and it seems to be annoying to work with them. But at the end of the day, I saved money. One of the big things they paid for was the HVAC system. It's nice to pay monthly and not have to worry about a $3,000 unexpected expense. I like saving money so the home warranty is worth the hassle for me. If I knew a friend that had children and didn't have time to deal with stuff, I would refer them to the home warranty. They've been great. It's just it seems like there's a weird conflict between the vendor and American warranty.

The AC would turn on, but it was just hot air. It was not cooling. The tech had to go to a store and get a part, and then he added Freon, which we paid for. He had to come back a few days later. It's a frustrating thing when you live in an area that's not a metropolitan area. I struggled big time when it came to getting my dryer repaired. Weeks and weeks of just headache, trauma and late nights because providers would say they were going to come in a certain time, but then they wouldn't. So then we wouldn't be there when they came. Coming at 9 o'clock at night. It was just an absolute nightmare. So I almost cancelled my warranty at that point, because it caused more aggravation than anything. And some of that is because American Home Shield doesn't have a ton of service providers in rural areas.
I decided not to cancel it. Because a lot of times when it had been Lowe's or whomever they were working with, that went smoothly. So I was like, “Okay, this is a one-off.” And then I got assigned a washing machine person, and it was Sears, which was okay. But then it wound up being the same people that I've had a ton of problems with my dryer. I was like, “I’m gonna call on my own.” I found somebody that was highly rated. And they were like, “Yeah, American Home Shield left a message for us. Go back in and go and request us.” So I did, and it has been fine. But have I not done that, and I've gone with the same place that caused so much aggravation, I would have dropped it.
It was for the dryer. I complained and it was so bad that AHS eventually told me to pick who I wanted and submit for reimbursement. So who I wound up getting was fine and worked on it. But it was just a nightmare. And also another thing that keeps happening is I keep having to put in dual claims at the same time for different issues. It's just how life has happened. So while I was doing the dryer, I also had a light that needed replacing. The bulbs had gone out. So there was constant confusion on which claim I was working on because there were two always going on at the same time.

There was an issue with my hot water tank several years ago and I used American Home Shield. I also did for a garbage disposal. I had different things going with my air conditioning and I had three different calls to them on that. The very last one was a different situation because I had called the tech out. My outside unit was making a noise and I was told that it needed a tune-up. When the techs came in to do the tune-up, they figured out what was making the noise but they couldn’t replace the AC until it stops working on me. My house was cooling still so it was one of those things. He said the AC was going to go out on me and probably soon. And it did go out on me but they were out here. I knew what to tell AHS when they called, what was wrong with it.
The workers that have been out have all been very professional and nice, and I haven't had any issues with that. When something goes wrong, I call American Home Shield first so they can send whoever they’re going to send out. Sometimes, I'm on the phone a lot. It's usually extremely slow to get ahold of anyone and I'm not happy about that. It takes hours sometimes to get ahold of anyone, and sometimes days before I get someone to come out. I'm also not pleased with how long it takes to get approval for things sometimes. They go through all these processes. One time, I called corporate headquarters to get a problem solved years ago, but I can't find that number anymore.
I'm very pleased with the recent service to replace my air conditioning unit. It took a little longer than I hoped. But that was partly because they had to get parts. The service with the company was excellent. I was very impressed with them. They worked really hard on a very hot day. They had to work in an attic and it was extremely hard to replace an air handler. But there was a year when we had a refrigerator problem back in June and it took until November for AHS to fix it up, sending four different companies. So it's not even across the board.
American Home Shield has been a good plan. But when the air conditioning unit went out a year ago, it took too long and I had to hire someone else to do it. Then I didn't fill out the paperwork timely. I got confused about how to file it. I don't know if I can still do it to get reimbursed. I still have the paperwork and I'd like to still do it. But with my last claim, we had to pay about $3,500 but it would have been a $10,000 job. It made the warranty plan worthwhile.

Service Request Date: was 04/27/2021 - the service contractor came out 4 times trying to fix my dishwasher. Today is 6/14/2021 and it is still not fixed and the status is closed. I told them to close my contract and in the transcribed (By REV.COM) attached, you will see they told me it would be "under review" but would take 20 days to a month, and they still tried to bill me - also the "request" states "Close" for the dishwasher.
To date I have paid: Monthly Auto Pay Paid 5/13/21 $28.74. One Time Payment Paid 4/29/21 $125.00. One Time Payment Paid 4/13/21 $28.74. Altogether I have paid $182.48 - with nothing to show for it. A few more payments and I can buy another dishwasher. Also, the "Window" for services is 6 hours - that is 24 hours, I lost waiting for the contractor. I want them to stop my contract and refund my money. To verify my above statement, I can attach conversations. Note: I am in Texas and it is legal for me to record my own conversations. They replied:
"On April 27, 2021 Axis Appliance Repair, Inc was dispatched out to diagnose any failures to Mr. **'s dishwasher. Axis Appliance Repair, Inc reported all parts have been installed. Section I-8 states AHS is not responsible or liable for secondary, incidental, and/or consequential loss or damage resulting from the malfunction of any covered item, or a service contractor's neglect or delay in providing, or failure to provide, repair or replacement of such item, including, but not limited to, food spoilage, loss of income, utility bills, additional living expenses, personal and/or property damage.
Section L-4 states if the customer or AHS cancels the contract after the 30th day following the beginning of the contract term additionally, customer shall be responsible for an administrative fee of the lesser of your plan fee for one month of coverage under this contract or such amount as is permitted by law. Mr. ** may reach out to customer service 800-776-4663 to request to cancel his AHS agreement."
I logged on to the account and they closed the ticket! The Dishwasher was still broken, I do not care how many parts they pull in it. No one touched it but the contractor THEY sent out. So, I had to buy a new one, as they would not communicate with me; and no one could get a hold of the contractor. I simply wanted my dishwasher fixed. It has been 2 months, and I had to buy a new one. AHS pulled out my dishwasher, replaced some parts, and still, it did not work. AHS did nothing to communicate what they were doing to correct the issue.
Again, I had the phone conversations transcripted. I have no idea what their statement is "AHS is not responsible or liable for secondary, incidental, and/or consequential loss or damage resulting from the malfunction of any covered item, or a service contractor's neglect or delay in providing, or failure to provide, repair or replacement of such item, including, but not limited to, food spoilage, loss of income, utility bills, additional living expenses, personal and/or property damage." None of this happened. They did NOT fix the dishwasher, which is 100% of the reason for the services. I want all my money back!

Updated on 06/30/2021: This is update from previous review which is still going on. Still getting no help from American Home Shield- since 6/18/21 no A/C in the house. It’s 102 degrees in the house. Getting the runaround, someone name Stacy said she sent email on 6/30/21. Not true. We need help now. It’s a health issue in Phoenix not to have A/C. 2nd Opinion happened. Still compressor needs to be replaced, and of course Freon on 23 year old unit, but can’t wait any longer. Maybe someone from American Home Shield should come live in the house and see for themselves how hot it is. It’s now 6/30/21 and no resolution. This is not right!
Original Review: Our ac unit quit working on one the hottest days in Phoenix, AZ. It was Friday evening. 118 degrees outside and 107 degrees inside of our home. Put in a service claim to have our issue diagnosed. The same evening the unit quit. An ac company was assigned to our claim and we called to see when they would be coming out. No one answered. Called the next day numerous times and left messages and no response. We let AHS know that the ac company was unresponsive and this is an urgent matter due to extreme heat. We received authorization to call another ac company who would be able to come out and diagnose the problem. They came that Saturday afternoon and determined that our 23 year old 5 ton Carrier compressor met the end of its life.
This is where things turned from bad (meaning it is unbearable to live in the house) to worse as every rep we spoke to was unable to help expedite this. The ac company tried to call your authorization line to report findings but the wait time was 1-2 hours. We called for three days trying to get someone from AHS authorization to call the ac company directly but EVERY TIME the rep called the ac company the rep sent them back to the 1-2 hour wait authorization line. The ac company does not have time to be on hold. It’s ridiculous!
On Thursday, almost a week from the ac unit breakdown we had to FINALLY do a 3-way call by calling and sitting on hold for over 1.5 hours. The authorization person finally answers and then I dialed in the ac company tech to give the diagnosis. All information was communicated to the authorization rep and she had the gall to make a snarky remark about the tech's quote on costs and said that AHS NEVER pays that much and will probably not be approved for that. She Actually argued with the tech when the tech pointed out that everything is higher due to COVID and shortage of parts and that we (the customer) should have been taken care of a long time ago.
NOW instead being able resolve and replace our unit, AHS decides they need second opinion…fair enough. Here is the next ridiculous thing. They assign another ac company who CANNOT COME OUT UNTIL TUESDAY JUNE 29th. This started on Friday June18th. We weren’t given any solution from AHS. We pleaded with them that we can’t wait that long but they refused to budge on getting a contractor out for the second opinion earlier. THIS IS A DANGEROUS HEALTH ISSUE. We are 60 years old, have pets. They didn’t even provide a safe cool place for us until this is fixed. This has been a disaster from the start and no one cares at all. Numerous times we spoke to reps about the heat danger…crickets…

I felt a lot better when the contractor came out and looked at the issue that I was having. However, what I didn't know was he mentioned there were some issues with the unit but failed to repair them. When he got up there, he said, "You just had this serviced a couple of weeks ago, right?" I wasn't home, but my wife was and she said, "Yeah, we did." He said, "Your spout is clogged." He said, "But the wrong size pads are in there, to begin with. Those aren't the right pads for the cooling that you were supposed to have." I was under the assumption that meant he would go ahead and swap the pads and make sure we had the right ones in there, as it was not operating the way that it should have been because it had the wrong size pads in there.
However, he did not do that and I ended up up there doing that myself, which was the only thing that I would have expected him to have done out of the issues that were still there because he identified it. But as far as using AHS' app or using the website to file a claim, that was fantastic. That was much easier than I expected. Getting the call from the contractor within the 24-hour window that I was supposed to was good and getting seen within 48 hours was good. The process itself was good too. The contractor themselves, not the best.

Filing a claim with AHS used to be difficult when you had to make a phone call. It was kind of a pain. But now that it's all computerized, it's simple. Recently, His and Hers Plumbing came out. All the plumber had to do was turn the water pressure up on the toilet. He knew exactly what it was which was the water pressure on the toilet had been turned down a little bit so it was causing a thumping in the wall. It was a $125-fix for five seconds. It was an expensive owner error.

I would have a bad leak under the sink and my kitchen would be leaking. I got wood floors in the kitchen and I put a stainless steel bowl up under the pipes so I can hear it when something goes wrong. The first time I had a leak, I called American Home Shield. It was the beginning of COVID and a plumber was nowhere to be found. Then I got a plumber that I call my brother and he came out pretty quickly. He stuck his finger right through the pipe. I was standing up in the sink and I heard, “Tick, tick, tick.” I asked where the leak came from and then it just started gushing out. I turned off the water quickly. It messed the floor up a little bit, but I caught it in time. The second time, the sink was clogging and leaking underneath. Yamaz Plumbing came out and they had to put the pipes in up under the sink. They finished the job. I like them. I've turned a lot of people onto American Home Shield. As the house ages, things happen.

This is my third year with American Home Shield and there has been a lot of benefits from having the home warranty especially since we've moved into this house in Oregon. It has helped out a lot. There were several things we needed done but they weren't large things. We live in such a small town though. So sometimes, you have to wait three days for the contractor. With the garage door, our cars were in the garage and we couldn’t get them out. The tech was so busy and he came here to work on it at around 10 o’clock at night. So, it is harder in these small towns to get someone who's not so busy that they can come out right away. But other than that, I haven't been dissatisfied with the people who've come so far such as the one who came for the electrical issue. We had known him from before and he does good work.

Island Mann came twice. The first time, we just moved into the home, so we had flushing issues with the toilets. The gentleman came in and pretty much fixed the issues with the toilets in the home. We had an outside pipe that was dripping from an outside irrigation. It was water that purifies the water inside. He came in and kept that off. So, it was two different work orders. He was very professional, finished in a good amount of time and he explained everything to us.
Overall, American Home Shield is efficient and quick. From the time that we put in the order, maybe in a few minutes, we got an email on the company that was going to come. The company calls us within 24 hours. Most of the time, the next business day.

The service people really want to try their best and that's great, but American Home Shield makes everything way more complicated than needs be. I had about four things that I didn't even call in because I didn't want to deal with them, and so I just fixed it out of my own pocket. I have multiple accounts with them and I'm not renewing. It’s like calling your home insurance company and saying, “I had a fire,” and they're like, “Well, we'll get back to you.”
It's taken me since May 24 to get my pool heater fixed, and I’m still not done. It’s to be done on Friday. Instead of just replacing it like every company that I had come out to look at it, they wanted to just replace the part. The part is on backorder, and so they're gonna pay me $700. I got to pay $4,700 for the pool heater. What's the point of even having American Home Shield? I had a hot water heater recently. I tried to call it in. They wanted a diagnosis. I was like, “Plug it. The hot water heater is broken. It's not working. I need hot water.” They were like, “Oh, well, we'll send somebody out on Tuesday.” I was like, “Tuesday?” I just replaced it myself.
Recently, RMG Mechanical came out for an AC issue and they were perfect. That set of circumstances went well. But if I needed a new compressor or a new unit, I’ll probably still be without air conditioning. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield is a nightmare. I tried to do the automated system. It had the voice recognition software, and it doesn't understand yes or no. You call enough because you got to deal with all these calls back and forth, and you finally learn how you have to talk. Then you get somebody on the phone and they can hardly speak English. It's like, “No, that's not what I want to have happen.” But they try really hard. It's not like it's their fault.

Saturday evening, we went to set the thermostat at 78 on the air conditioning side and the air wouldn't come out. We flipped it over to the heat side and that wouldn't come on too. I got ahold of American Home Shield by email and they set me up with the Air Doctor A/C & Heating. They said if we hadn't heard from them by Monday morning, to call them when they reopened. I called first thing Monday morning and explained the situation.
The only complaint I have is we could not get service until four days later. Living in Florida with no AC and on a seven-story building, it was hazy, hot and humid as it is down there. When I set the appointment, they told me Thursday between 8:00 and 12:00. There wasn't much else they could do as they were backed up. They did come between 8:00 and 12:00. Edward was the man from Air Doctor who showed up. Within five minutes, he figured out what had happened. He got it fixed and went above and beyond what he was supposed to do. He cleaned out the sludge that we had in the unit that we didn't know was there. We are going to be using him in the future when we go down and have the furnace checked twice a year with Air Doctor. I'm very happy with them.
The only thing I would suggest is for American Home Shield to provide the consumer with more than one option. We didn't have any option. We had to use Air Doctor. Not that I wouldn't have used them anyway but because they were so busy, we were kind of stuck until Thursday. We weren't given the opportunity to contact another company. We just were given Air Doctor and that was it. We would like to have another available source in case the one that is first on the list can't come out within a reasonable time.

The air conditioner was leaking. It was coming from this pipe that was covered with some black insulator. So, Phil, the tech, said it was some kind of blockage and he attempted to unblock it. But it was still leaking when he left. So, I called again. He had left 15 minutes before so it wasn't a long time between. AHS sent somebody else out. I called him and he said I needed a plumber. Then they sent the plumber out and he said that it wasn't a plumbing problem, it was clearly an AC problem.
So, American Home Shield sent out another HVAC company who figured out what the problem was. I found another local company to get the problem fixed instead of going through AHS’s person and I was not reimbursed for it, but I was given something that helped towards it. All in all, AHS has a pretty good program, and a pretty good service. American Home Shield made it quite easy now to submit claims. It used to be you had to call in and you would always talk to somebody. Now, they put it where you can do it online. You select your categories then they give you a call back. You would be able to pay it online, whereas before, you have to wait for the person to come out and then they had to do the card and all that. They simplified it and I like that. Some of the companies they had in the past weren't great. We had one before that said there was one thing wrong, and it really wasn’t. He was trying to trump up some stuff. We got that all straightened out. AHS sent out somebody else to do a second opinion. They came out and said that was not a problem.
The last couple of times we’ve called, we've had great people. With my recent AC claim, the technician came out. I told him that I had done to check the things with the AC. He opened it up, looked at it, and found what the problem was. Unfortunately, he didn't have the part that was needed at the time. He had to get to some type of warehouse where they'd pick up these things, so he was back first thing the next morning. He was so polite, very informative, and he was explaining as he was doing what he was doing. If I had to have somebody come back, I would definitely tell that company to come back. If it goes like this one did, I don’t see any problems.

I’ve had the AC tune-up done before by other people and the tech who came didn't do as much as the other people, so I was concerned. He didn’t double-check the status of the refrigerant itself but he checked to make sure that cold air was coming from the vent. Perhaps that's the alternative. There was nothing wrong with it. There is still nothing wrong with it and we've been using it. It's warm here, so that's fine. This is the first time in over a year since we've had the service that we've used it. I have been a customer of American Home Shield for 3 years since purchasing a new home. We have used the HomeShield plus coverage for several small repairs over the years and have been satisfied. Yesterday our AC went out and immediately submitted a service request and it was assigned to a contractor. The contractor reached out to me towards the end of the day to get me on their calendar and the first available appointment they had was 2 weeks from now and they put on the calendar. This is not surprising as it is the middle of the summer.
I immediately reached back out to American Home Shield to see if they can look for other vendors with earlier appointments and was told that their system could only assign the repair to another vendor if I cancelled my existing appointment. Basically gambling that the next vendor they assign it to will have an earlier time slot. This is a ridiculous system as there should be a way for them to reach out to several of their contracted vendors to see who can fit someone in first. Because the contracted vendor is already assigned the work, they have no real incentive to fit you in before their non-AHS customers and therefore you are stuck with waiting! This an unacceptable system and I highly doubt I will renew my warranty once this repair is complete.

When we wanted to use the microwave, we would have to plug it in just to get it to be able to power up. But when we did, the little control panel would go berserk. We would override the system and it would fire up like it was cooking. But then, we would have to hit one for Express one and it would actually start cooking. Then, it would beep when it was done but it would not shut down. It would keep going, so we'd have to unplug it. It was crazy. And sometimes when it was on, the light and the power would go up and down like it was failing. So, we made a claim with our home warranty.
The problem was different that they wanted to film everything. In times past, I'd call and tell them what the appliance was doing, then they'd say that they would send somebody out. But now, they wanted us to film it all, which was okay as an extra step. I also get that they have to cover all their procedures, but it almost makes you feel like you're not being honest with showing them the issue. Other than that, the techs followed up within the window and they showed up when they said they were going to. But whenever we have to use HSA, the techs would tell us about the day and time when they could come out, then they'd say that if that didn't work, then they'd have to come out the following week. It was like if I couldn't make that work, then my appointment would be pushed back. It would be more palatable if they would ask us when they could come out and what would fit our time frame.
Aside from that, I had an issue communicating with the people that installed the microwave yesterday. The day before, their rep did not get me on the phone, but she left a message. She was very polite and she said that I was scheduled for the next day, between 3:00 and 7:00, and to let them know if that would work. So, I tried calling her back because it didn't work. But I was on hold forever and I just hung up. The next day, I called and asked if we were on and they said yes. I also asked if we could do it earlier because of work but their rep said no and that it was the only time I could have the techs out. I made it work but not everybody can because of their work schedule. Then, when the delivery people called, they said that I was on for the next day and told me the time they would be out. When I asked for a different time, they said it would have to be another day.
Other than that, the techs did what they said they would, they arrived when they said they would, and they gave their touch base call when they were an hour and 30 minutes out. When they showed up, they knocked it out. It was hot and they were beat. But they were very professional and I was very impressed. When they got done, I looked at their sheet that I had to sign off no damage and I was their 10th stinking stop that day, and they still had one more. So, all of that was tremendous. I'm going to call their company and tell them how awesome these guys were because nobody wants to give a positive call, they all want to call on a negative one.

The last time we had American Home Shield, it was kind of a nightmare. From one of the past times that we've had in our house currently, there seems to be a breakdown in communication between them and the contractors. We had Myers come out and do the air conditioner. We've dealt with them before and they're not easy to deal with. We had to track down the part that when I called them, they said it was in the warehouse sitting around. I said, “It’s Alabama weather. It's 100 degrees. Please get that installed. Why is it just sitting there?” They blamed American Home Shield and American Home Shield was saying it was Myers. We finally got that figured out and a guy that did come out and warrantied it for 30 days.
We have had American Home Shield in a different house and we had to deal with Myers there as well. Either they're lazy or don't want to answer the phone or don't even like to work with American Home Shield. It's a little frustrating because Myers is kind of annoying. On another claim, we had to order a part. It was a glass stovetop and it cracked. You can track the FedEx part whenever it's being delivered or whatnot. It was apparently delivered to the people that were supposed to come out to fix it and it was just sitting there too. But we've had a contractor for the garage door and they came out the same day. I went over the phone with American Home Shield to have them get a contractor out. They handled it. I did the claim on the weekend and I did get a response within half an hour. A/C Pros had called to say they were the ones assigned, but they wouldn't be able to come until Monday. It was all right. I didn't expect emergency thing. So, they came Monday right at the time slot. They were very efficient. They were out of here within an hour and a half.
I had to pay for the Freon and I paid $100 for the service call. Most of the time, I don't have to pay anything. So, if there's any mechanical, if something needs to be replaced or not, then they will replace it. It doesn't cost me anything. But being the Freon, that wasn't free. Home Shield gives $10 off per Freon container. So, it was really 77. I got four of those. So, it's $308 for that. My unit is 14 years old. Then for seven years, I paid $600 and when I finally worked out the cost of an air conditioner, I realized I may as well just not have the warranty, and just if I need to get a new air conditioner, now I have a little bit more money in the bank, I would just get a new air conditioner. I don't need the warranty. But at the time when I didn't have much money, it gave me a sense of security.
I also would rather use a local contractor. It was a strange situation with my recent AC issue because they didn't just send a technician, they also sent two vehicles from Oklahoma City to come up to Stillwater, one with a technician and one with a salesman who offered me a deal if I would jump in and get an air conditioner from them today. So having them send that company to send a salesperson made me feel like I would rather use a contractor right here in my own little town who was always going to be there and always going to have to be answerable to me, not from somebody an hour away. They should also reduce the rates. My rates keep going up. But their claim process is pretty simple. You just get online or you call in. I did it online this time. I thought it would be complicated but it wasn't. The options were well organized, so it was easy to focus on what I needed help with.

The microwave wasn't warming anything up and we also had an issue with the icemaker. I went on the American Home Shield website and after that, they called us and they did the video estimate thing. A service guy came out to fix both appliances. The issue with the microwave turned out to be with some transistors. He replaced the handle on the door and that was it. He fixed the microwave but within the day, it went back on the fritz.
If we went through American Home Shield's online portal, we would have had to pay for that again. Luckily, I called the contractor instead and they were glad I did. They said to call the home warranty. That way, they could come back out and fix the microwave and not charge me again for it. The service guy came back out because some other parts within the heating mechanism of the microwave failed. The first time he came, he said that he noticed it but he didn't think it was that bad. He had to order the part, come back, and fix the microwave the proper way. We haven’t had a problem since.
As for the icemaker, it was frozen on the inside. He took the ice maker apart and just thawed it the proper way and said that was all that was really wrong with it. He checked everything to make sure that it was good. He told my wife what not to do if they were to freeze over in the future because the Samsung one we got evidently has this inherent problem. Overall, the service guys was pretty cool. He wore a mask, was friendly, and seemed knowledgeable. Now someone is coming out on the 25th because our dishwasher has decided to not drain itself.

The pipes were leaking and the tech fixed them. AHS could do better about following up with me about service though. I had an issue with the company before this and it took almost six months. That's when AHS sent out these new techs who came out the next day. This warranty has saved us a lot of money, moving into our home. AHS had to replace some items. The customer service is okay. They get the job done.

My service with American Home Shield has been good. When I have a claim, somebody is out within a day or two. I do my claims electronically and that's easy. Recently, someone came out and unfroze my freezer. He was very good, pleasant, and polite. He knew what he was doing and was there for 20 minutes. American Home Shield has been everything I needed it to be.

The tech from Kenneth Buggay Mechanical came out when the AC wasn't working. He was knowledgeable and he fixed it. I was worried that we would have to wait a while for someone to come and fix it but AHS tried very hard to get someone here as quickly as possible. It's a good investment. The $600 and some odd for the insurance is not too inexpensive and in the long run, if you have a couple of calls, you get that money back.
Thanks for your loyalty. Taking care of our customers is the main goal here at AHS. We are working diligently to improve the overall customer experience and we look forward to our continued business together. Have a great day.

Home Shield has proved to be very helpful for us. We've had several different problems within our house since we bought it. We've had to utilize our Home Shield insurance several times for appliances mostly. 2 Bald Guys has been out several times now with different appliances and they've done a fantastic job. They had to come out several times for our refrigerator and several times for our dishwasher. I've already recommended Home Shield. My son bought a house and I had him signed up for it too.

I've used American Home Shield for plumbing, heating and air, and electrical issues. Sometimes I hate the time that it takes for a contractor to come out. I feel like because it’s American Home Shield, the contractor puts you at the bottom of the list. ASAP Plumbing Services recently came out and they had to order some parts. We went through the weekend and they didn’t get back out here until Wednesday or Thursday. It was almost a five or six day wait. I feel like I get put on the back burner. If I could call a plumber myself, he would be out today. Sometimes I have to try to work with the contractor American Home Shield assigns the claim to. I don’t know how to sometimes say, “Hey, can I get somebody else in the place of this company?” If I had to call a plumber myself, I would definitely not use ASAP Plumbing Services. But with the plumber assigned to my other plumbing issue, we had the same day appointment and they came out and fixed the issue the same day.

The service men who've been here were on time. They did an excellent job. So, we were very pleased. We used American Home Shield’s service for our microwave. Then our water heater was replaced. We usually call our claims in. Someone usually answers the call and then sends a repairman out within a day or so. I recommend AHS. It's been a great benefit for us. It's cost-effective.

The hot water wasn't working. The tech came quickly the next day and he was really good. My mom was very pleased with his work and professionalism. But for the last claim that I submitted when water was coming out of my ceiling, it took the techs a week to get here. I was not happy about that. My issue had to be addressed pretty quickly. I had to call AHS four times. Outside of that claim, they have been pretty good.

My AC was blowing but the air wasn't cool. The tech was very professional and the performance of the unit has been excellent since he came. I don't even have to turn it down as low to keep it cool. However I paid the home warranty, my monthly fee and $100 to get the tech to come out with some type of charge. Then, he charged me $375 from the contractor. I told AHS today that if I got to pay all of that, I might as well not have a home warranty.

The air conditioner was not blowing air and the contractor came on the day and time they said they were gonna come. They were early and they fixed what needed to be fixed. My experience with American Home Shield was always good. But I had another claim for my refrigerator and now, I have been waiting for three months to get my refrigerator repaired. I was annoyed by that. At first, they said that they had to order the parts. The parts came in and I took off from work and waited for Sears the whole day to come and fix it. They never even showed up or gave me a call to see why they weren’t going to show up. I got in touch with them and they said that if the person didn't come back a certain time, they weren't gonna come at all. So now, they’re supposed to come back.
I was gonna call them tomorrow because they're supposed to come out on the 3rd to repair my refrigerator and I don't want what happened the last time to happen again. I told American Home Shield that I didn’t want the contractor to come back. I wanted them to send somebody else altogether different but I said that I'm gonna see what's going to happen. I thought AHS would benefit me because I’m single and I have a home, and it would help me with the cost.

A couple of hours later, he called, “I did have the part in my shop after all. When can we come back and put it in?” He came back and put it in. It’s been fine ever since.

When you call American Home Shield, the wait on the telephone is a long time. I also had a bad experience with them. I called for when I wanted an electrician. My nerves were shot and I thought of canceling them as soon as I got the chance. I called and they connected me with somebody overseas. The woman had no fricking clue what she was talking about. She hooked me up with an electrician from Monterey down south. I told her, "This is far away. You need to have someone local. I need someone to come." She hung up on me. I was so mad.
I had a toilet issue and called again. I thought of giving them another chance since I've been paying $50 a month. With the toilet, it worked out great. Two days later, I had a call from KAL Construction. Their repairman, Joe, came and changed the whole mechanism inside the toilet. That's been working great so right now, I feel good about American Home Shield. Budget Electric also came out to fix a fan that was making a lot of noise. The switch needed to be changed. The chain was broken and an electrician had to attach a new chain that I bought. I had gotten a switch so he put a new switch in the wall.

We've had to call American Home Shield a couple of times. For the first contractor they were gonna send out when we had the very first issue, I went looking on the internet to see them and they had a very bad review. I called American Home Shield back and told them not to send that contractor out here. It took a little while to get the second person but I'm not going to have somebody that's rated a 1 on the internet come in here.
When we had an issue with two toilets, a contractor had to come back three times for one of the toilets but we only got charged once. They had to order one of the parts and get another part in too. There was also a leak in the kitchen and I need to call American Home Shield back and hopefully not get the contractor on another service call. The contractor never came back for it. But other than that, American Home Shield has been fine. It's a little bit of peace of mind in knowing that you're only going to get charged one flat fee regardless (except when they're doing freon). One of their contractors just added freon to one of the ACs.

I have a couple of properties that I rent out and American Home Shield had good pricing and it was easy to use them from Langdon. I have a property in Los Angeles, so we were able to use AHS there. I used to use the website often, and then it was unavailable for some time. But it was easy to navigate. I received an email regarding who was assigned to the request. I reached out to them, then we booked the appointment. My tenant texted me that the tech was finished. She said he needed to take everything apart and there was something loose in there, then put it back together. I've had some issues with some of the contractors that AHS sent to different places. But I'm happy with them because I keep renewing. In fact, the policies are coming due July 3rd, and I have to renew everything. I'm satisfied.

There were two incidents since I started the service. The two times that I requested to get a supervisor, the first time, it took me two weeks. The second time, I never got a call from the supervisor. AHS also sent me a really young service tech to check out the problems I was having with the dishwasher. I kept telling him what was wrong and it was like he wasn't listening to me. I even recorded the sounds that that old dishwasher was making because he kept making excuses about not having it repaired and that he had to hear the sound when he was there. So, it took me three months to get a brand-new dishwasher. I had to waste my time taking time off from work for the young guy to keep showing up again. I had to take three times off for him to not help me here with the situation. Other than that, the contractor who came recently was very thorough and polite.

Other than that, everything is very good. I'm very happy with the American Home Shield service and the contractors that we've had come here. When I had a leak, it was very easy to file a claim with American Home Shield. I talked with an agent and explained to her what the issue was. Right then and there, she referred me to someone and told me who was going to be contacting me. A contractor called me later on that day and came the next morning at 10:00. That was really nice. The tech told me where the leak was and showed why it was broken. He even gave me advice on how to dry off the carpet. He was very accommodating and I was very satisfied with the work. American Home Shield is always reliable. This is the second time that I've called them and I'm not disappointed. They have never failed and I'm very happy with their service. When I call AHS, they always take my payment, and they put me in right away. The only thing is that they can get to your product quicker. It usually takes them about two to three weeks. Whirlpool came out for the refrigerator and it went perfectly. They were excellent. But we had problems when we had a claim for our GE washer. The tech that came out for my AC was very helpful and knowledgeable. I asked questions and he was very upfront with me. I was asking him did he think I needed to replace the unit because I liked the work that he did and did he think it was time for me to replace the unit. He just told me from what he saw, it was just this component and not the entire unit. So he didn't think that that was a road that I needed to go down just yet. But if it was, he would be more than happy for his company to do the work. He was very professional, but at the same time, very friendly to talk to. A lot of times, technicians come out and it's like, “Why are you asking questions? Leave me alone. I'm just here to work.” But that definitely wasn't the case.
The only thing that sucks about the experience was the coordination process could be quicker. I understand that everyone doesn't work on the weekend. But I don't know if there is a way to fix it from an overhead and a financial standpoint on American Home Shield’s end, maybe in some situations, depending on how dire the situation is, for somebody to come in on weekend standby, and if the customer is willing to pay that additional service fee for the weekend service. Because sometimes things can't wait until Monday.

They didn't have anything on hand. 30 days passed and AHS couldn't get the part so I bought a new one myself from Lowe's. AHS cut me a check back for everything. One thing I didn't like was that I had to call back to inquire what was going on. I’ve had other repairs, but those were nothing that they couldn't fix. This is the first time I've had something like this happen where I got a check for it.
