    I filed the claim with AHS. The technician came. I explained to him that when I called in with American Shield, that they had done a video chat with me, so I was able to show them what was going on with the washer. So when I asked him, “Did you get a chance to watch the video?” The technician said, “No. We didn't get any video.” I said, “Okay. I'll just show you what's wrong with the washer.”

    I don't know if that was a mix-up on someone's part, because I went through the whole video chat with the call representative. Just to make sure that it all gets passed off to the technicians, that would be great. Because I could have saved time. He could have maybe watched the video and said, “I already know what that is.” And then the part could have already been ordered or at least some days of waiting for the delivery could have been shaved off. But everything had been fluid and as expedient as could be expected when I submitted a claim.

    The tech came and opened the washer door, checked the drum, because that's the issue I'm having with the washer is that when you put it on a spin cycle or even when you start a load, it starts making weird noises. Sometimes with the actual cycle, the drum won't spin all the way. Then if it does, it's creating all types of noise, havoc and it doesn't run well.

    He was checking in, rotating and said, “It seems like your drum roll is damaged. We're gonna have to have someone come out and fix it.” Then he started to explain that it's a two-person job and that they only had one technician available - him. So he was gonna have to try to contact another company that has two technicians to have them come out and do the repairs. I asked him, “How long is this going to take generally?” He said, “It's usually a day, roughly about two to three hours.” He then said he was also going to place an order for the specific part. He said it might take five to seven business days. I was just going to have a while before I was going to hear back about setting up a schedule. But he seemed knowledgeable and he explained how it was, what would be required and how long it would take.

    I had plumbing come out because my garbage disposal went. I had a leak in my sink also. What they did was they fixed my garbage disposal and the sink. I had some other issues too. When I did make the call to the customer service back then, they asked me if I did have any more issues. I was like, “Yeah, I do. But I don't know if it's under warranty.” I've had the warranty for about six weeks. The issue was my sink upstairs. The stopper wouldn't go down. Then I had them check a bathroom, and that was okay. They checked my shower stall. All the water was not coming out of the shower stall, but it was coming down the bottom. Then the basement sink had a leak. It took the service people a couple times to come out here to confirm the leak in the basement. I had the water turned off because it was dripping when I even turn it. They had to turn it off from the bottom.

    The service people were wonderful. When they finally fixed everything, it took about three weeks, coming back and forth several times. They were very professional. They did a good job. I didn't have any problems at all but they were telling me, “Yeah, if you did have those other problems, don't anybody mess with them because it’ll void your warranty.” I didn't know. I just happened to have some other issues that I had pending myself and I said, “Well, I'll just get somebody to look at it.” But they were under warranty. American Home Shield has done a really good job. I'm very satisfied with them. They have first-class customer service.

    I have American Home Shield on my house and on my mom's. It's been very pleasantly good and we are in good shape. I recommended the home warranty to a friend at work yesterday because something has changed over the last couple of years. I had the home warranty in the past and I can see that there has been an improvement. The customer service has gotten a lot better as far as the contractors go.

    I help my mom with her claims. We did one and I got an email saying that the contractor would contact me within 48 hours. The contractor was gold. Every time they come, they are prompt and they do a great job. They've been out a couple of times for two different issues. This time, it was a wiring issue. They just had to fix it or clean something out. My mom said that they were able to get it going. They were able to do the fix the same day. Everything has been perfect since then.

    The warranty has not covered some air conditioning problems I've had. I recently had an AC claim for the rental and I had to pay for coolants, the labor, and just the charge for them going out there, which I did not appreciate. That's supposed to be taken off if you have work done that you need to pay for. I had to pay $100 just for them to go out. AHS's service is okay but there's something better out there.

    AHS's website could have comment section so I can say why I'm requesting service and the contractor would know exactly what he's going to do when he comes in. I was requesting an AC tune-up and there's not a clear option for that one. Originally, the contractor thought it was an AC repair because that's the only option AHS has on their website. Other than that, the tech came as scheduled and he was really professional. He did his work and gave me some options and recommendations. The whole experience was really good.

    I did the claim online to American Home Shield and it was very simple to use. It asked me what type of refrigerator and icemaker, and I had the model number so, I filled all that in. Then, Pro Appliance, the contractor, called and they asked if it was an indoor icemaker. I said yes and they asked to schedule a video initially, to see if they could troubleshoot it before they come out so they would know what part to come out with. They had me run a diagnostic. There was a switch that I flipped that would start the cycle and it started leaking water everywhere. The repair guy said I needed a new icemaker. It would be three to five days to order the part and they sent me a text message that they were scheduled to come out between 12:00 and 3:00 on such and such day. It said, “Type Accept to agree,” and I did. And they were here at 1 o'clock and they were in and out within 20 minutes. Since then, the icemaker has been working fine.

    The unit was blowing air but the air that it was blowing out was not particularly cold so we made the claim to American Home Shield. We have had A & C Heating & Cooling come out for a furnace issue on our home, and we happened to particularly like their service. There are multiple contractors in our area that American Home Shield contracts with and when we specifically requested A & C Heating & Cooling, American Home Shield assigned them to us. It was amazing to me that they would do that rather than just taking the next available contractor on an assigned basis.

    A & C Heating & Cooling did tell us that they were a little bit backed up and it was going to take them a while to get to our home. But we were willing to wait because we like them so much. We got very good communication and the expectations were set properly. When they came out, they diagnosed the issue as being low on refrigerant. It looked like we might have had a refrigerant leak. They explained to us that the way that American Home Shield works is before replacing any components in the system, A & C Heating & Cooling has to refill the refrigerant then put in like a leak stop type of material. Then they would check it again after a certain period of time to see if the leak stopped. If it did, then the claim is taken care of. If it didn't, then we need to pursue with another appointment saying, "The leak stop didn't fix it. We need to diagnose the leak and maybe replace a component in the system.” It was properly executed and we couldn't have been happier with the handling of the claim.

    Every year we shop around for home warranties when it's time to renew with American Home Shield, and we have found other companies that are slightly less expensive than them. We tend to be a little on the high side from a price standpoint. But the premium is totally worth the service that we get. We never get the runaround. We never feel like we thought something should be covered and it wasn't covered or we get bad customer service or people are unprofessional. We like dealing with American Home Shield so we continue to purchase the coverage. This is our third year in a row with them.

    AHS was very quick to make sure that I was satisfied with the work. I had one incident with my oven where the same thing kept breaking. They tried to repair it but they had to rebuild the motherboard. They brought that motherboard back and installed it. It worked for a month or so then the motherboard went out again. The techs ended up having to speak with another manager and they made the decision to replace the unit. So, they replaced it and I was really grateful for that. This latest claim for a GE dishwasher, they were very quick to send out a contractor. In this case, it was a GE contractor. They didn't have to do that but that was very good. The quality of the new stove and dishwasher that I got is very good.

    I had refrigerator problems since June 16th. So, I called American Home Shield for service. They sent Sears out to work on the refrigerator. The guy said it was fixed. I went to work that afternoon and when I came home, the refrigerator’s leaking water. So I spent the entire next week calling American Home Shield and calling Sears. It took about 45 minutes for each company to even get somebody on the phone. Then when I did, they were not helpful. They kept rerouting me to other people]. It was a blame game. We called Sears, so Sears called American Home Shield]. I couldn't get anybody on the phone. I probably spent 10 hours on the phone just trying to get Sears to come back out. So a week into it, I broke down and cry. I called my real estate agent and said, “Do you have an inside rep for American Home Shield? Because I can't do this anymore.”

    She put me in contact with her inside rep who put me in contact with a customer service specialist at American Home Shield who has been trying to help me. They initially said, “Okay, forget Sears. We're sending another company out,” which they did a week ago. The day the new company was supposed to show up, they didn't call and they missed their appointment time. I had a phone number for the company. I called them all day long but couldn’t get ahold of anybody.

    My appointment was between 11:00 and 1:00. At 3:30, I finally left and went to work. About 10 minutes to 4:00, they called me and said they were on their way. I had already left for work so my adult son was there. I said, “Fine, let them come look at it.” The second round of technicians did the exact same thing that Sears did. They said it was fixed. I called them back. I said, “It's not gonna be fixed. This is exactly what we did with the last company.” The guy said, “Give it a few hours.” Nobody wants to listen to me. So, I called the technician back last Friday morning and said it's still leaking water. I've spent the entire week waiting for somebody to do something. The American Home Shield’s new customer rep that has been calling and emailing me is not getting anywhere. I'm not getting anywhere. I have no answers, and I have a broken refrigerator.

    My plumbing issue was fixed. It was like a comedy of errors. I had an AC problem, too. First, it was the refrigerator, and that just never stopped. Then, we went away for the weekend. I had an AC go out, and I had a water leak from a heater. So, we had an AC company come out. They were super nice, came right out and fixed it. It was the same thing with the plumbers. Both companies were here in less than 10 minutes. They were super nice and super fast. I was very happy with that. It’s my $8,000 refrigerator that doesn't work that's bothering me because it’s spewing water everywhere. I'm worried it's gonna damage the floor if I don't have towels out. And I can't get anybody to come out and look at it again.

    Overall, I've never had a good experience with any of the home warranty companies, especially American Home Shield. I would never get them for my customers. I would never recommend them for my customers. I myself have tried to use them on and off for the last 20 years, and it's never worked out. It's never been worth the money. They're just too big of a company. There's no accountability. There's no way to get the same person back on the phone. Then after waiting 45 minutes just to talk to a representative from American Home Shield, they didn't speak English. You could very well tell they were in a different country. They didn't care. They hung up on me because I said, “I'm not getting off the phone until we resolve this.”

    When submitting a service request, sometimes you get lucky and you get somebody who speaks clearly. But I had one lady and I could barely understand her and I heard chickens in the background. It was a little weird. Still, the contractors did everything with respect and American Home Shield has been good so far. I’ve had three claims in total. The first one was good, the second one was terrible and the third one was great. The one with At Your Pool Service went smoothly. The tech and I had a little hiccup at the beginning but when we figured out what was going on, from that point forward, everything went smoothly. He was on time and he knew what he was talking about.     I would recommend AHS. It's something to definitely have and it works for us. When we have something that goes out, we call AHS and they're pretty active about it. The techs come not even a couple of days at the most. Last year, it took long because of COVID, but this year, when we had a problem somehow, it was right away and the techs got here and looked at it. They figured out it was working correctly, or if it wasn't, what was the problem and they had it fixed correctly.

    I love American Home Shield's website. Everything's easy to use. If you have an issue, you tell them online and within minutes, you have a contact and somebody’s coming to see you. If you don't want to deal with people, you don't have to. I did a claim for our air conditioner as it wouldn't come one. Everything was great with the contractor we had and they fixed the air conditioner. We found out it was just the switch. The repair was perfect. We were burning up and the contractor came out in the nick of time. I'm telling some people to get American Home Shield.

    When you shut off the water for the toilet, the valve that comes from the wall and goes to the toilet wouldn't shut off. It was at a very low pressure and kept dripping. The contractor came out and fixed the valve. I had another claim that I filed for my refrigerator. The first time the contractor came out, they fixed some stuff but the ice machine still wasn't working. There was no way on the website to reopen the closed ticket and I wasn't about to pay another $100 deductible for something that wasn't fixed the first time around. So, I called them and they fixed the problem. The one lady that I spoke at American Home Shield was very helpful and said that she was going to make sure that it was a top priority for the refrigerator to get fixed again. They’re good.

    Once somebody showed up here, everything was wonderful. But with the first person that AHS assigned the thing to, I waited a week and didn't even get a phone call. So I called AHS back and they sent somebody else. The contractor said it would take two or three days before they could get here, but at least they called and told me that. Then they fixed the issue. Two weeks later, the guy that AHS assigned it to the first time decided to call to see if I needed any help. It was five weeks after the job was first assigned to him. Despite that, American Home Shield was very good and the people that were eventually assigned to do the job took very good care of me and were very polite.

    Other than that, it's a pain in the rear to submit a service request with AHS. They're using a very old automated system and you only have a couple of choices. And if your choice isn't there, you have to guess at something that somebody will respond to, or else you have to call the phone number for canceling service to talk to a human being. But, I'd tell my friends that signing up with AHS is a very good thing to do. When I got my warranty, I talked to my real estate agent and she was the one that recommended AHS to me. I'm glad that the recommendation worked out for me.

    The temperature of the HVAC unit in the attic was off. There was some clogging in the drain and there was water leaking in the over drain pans. The tech took care of everything that needed to be done and it works fine now. He did it pretty quickly and he knew exactly what he was doing. I had another claim which was for my dishwasher that wasn't draining. The hose was clogged up and the tech unclogged it. I also had an issue when my HVAC wasn't cooling. It needed some Freon and the techs fixed it. AHS has been really good about getting people out in a timely manner. So I've been really happy with them. I would recommend AHS to anybody.

    We have been without our washer for more than 30 days now. The service man came out to fix it after the wrong diagnosis and waiting 2 weeks for parts. Now online our service request shows "Complete" and we are still without a washer. Numerous calls have gotten the same response each time. This is just about the worse customer service I have seen with a company.

    There have been times when we've had to wait a long time online.     The AC wasn't blowing cold. And the Freon line was sweating until the point it went back and froze. I had to get the technician back out there and I had to submit another claim because I had no contact numbers for American Home Shield. I had to pay the second $100 just to have to talk to somebody to have that $100 removed. It was just the idea of I even called the contractor and it came back to the point of, “We'll come back out because it was under the 60 days.” Other than that, having a home warranty alleviates crisis management.

    The people that American Home Shield has sent out have been great except for one time last year. It had to do with the air conditioning. It just didn't work out because the first time they came out, they didn't fix it, so they had to come out again. It was during the summer, so it was inconvenient. Then, American Home Shield sent somebody else out and they fixed it. So, it was fine.

    Recently on an appliance, a guy from Sears came and he was good. I liked the guy. He was a fisherman and he was a nice guy. He fixed our problem and it appeared that the refrigerator we have has issues that are generic to the brand and they keep cropping up. So, he told us what we needed to do to try to resolve the issue going forward. So, I was very satisfied with that. If somebody is interested in having a warranty, American Home Shield does a good job. We're satisfied with the product.

    The contractor seemed to have fixed the issue with the washer. My tenants said everything went very smoothly. I also have American Home Shield for the house that I own. I've had a good experience so far and I wouldn't have carried on any coverage into any other properties if I didn't think they were worth it. They are quick to answer back.     There was a fan switch that was not working and I had a light switched where one of the three-way switches was clicking and buzzing. I did the fan claim online first and then followed up with a phone call. While I was waiting to get that scheduled, the light switch went bad. AHS said they would take care of them both at the same time. The contractor was excellent. By the end of the visit, everything was great. It was a very good experience with AHS.

    I put in a claim to Home Shield for both our AC units. One is for the downstairs and the other one is for upstairs. The guy from Advanced Air came out. He came into the living room, checked the downstairs unit and said that it was working okay. But he had to replace the thermostat. Then he went to check the upstairs unit, and he said it was working fine. But he never came upstairs to check the thermostat. He told me to just put it on to 59, make it really low, and he said that it was working. But the next day, it was still hot upstairs that night, and the thermostat was reading 78 degrees. When I called back, I must have been on the phone with them for a total of five hours, trying to get Home Shield to send the guy back to fix the upstairs unit.

    We've been calling Home Shield once a year for the past six years to check or fix our air conditioning. They fixed it but they've just been putting a band-aid over it. When I made the appointment for Advanced Air to come back out, Home Shield put it in and they said they'd be contacting me within 48 hours to come back and check the upstairs. I called back four days later because I haven't heard from them. I left Home Shield messages and I called back to get ahold of them. Home Shield told me that they canceled the appointment because they said that wasn't part of the request to check the upstairs thermostat. But they didn't call to tell me the appointment was canceled.

    When you call Home Shield, you're on the phone for at least two hours. I was on the phone for five hours. I was so upset. I'm at work, and I'm getting frustrated because they wouldn't connect me to a supervisor. Why was I going to pay an extra $100 for them to come back out again? They should have fixed it the first time. Finally, they connected me to a supervisor after five hours of being on hold, and getting disconnected, and being really frustrated. The supervisor at Home Shield was amazing. She said, “I totally understand. Don't worry, I'm going to send Comfort Pros out. You don't have to pay for it. Let them come out and look at it.” But they didn't come out for a week. I thought we had a contract with Home Shield that someone has to come out within 24 to 48 hours.

    We went a whole other week without air conditioning. Comfort Pros came out a week later after I put a request in, but they were fine. The tech said the upstairs system has a broken coil, so they can't fix it right then. So Advanced Air didn't even look at it and we still have no air conditioning as of right now because it's been a whole process. To say that I'm upset with Home Shield and all of their people is an understatement. It’s like 95 degrees. I want to cancel Home Shield and I want to get my money back this year because they've done nothing. Now, I have to call a new company to come out replace both ACs. American Home Shield is a scam. They don't replace anything.

    The guy came out for our AC and he went down to the furnace. He found the issue, said it was a circuit board. He fixed it right up. We also had a small gas leak.     The air conditioner wasn't coming on. I made a phone call and American Home Shield scheduled it for me. They asked, "What's the problem?" It was automated. I just said AC, and they went ahead and schedule whoever the company for the repair. They just told me I'll be contacted. They didn't let me tell the company what the symptoms were. I got an email telling me the company name, the contractor, and then they will contact me. That's it.

    The guy that came explained to me what was going on. I told him my AC has a clunk noise and it happens during the evening when I drop the temperature a bit. I don't want anything to happen and then I'm stuck in the heat. He went outside. He told me he couldn't hear anything at that time. Then I never dropped the temperature while he was here. He just saw the concern that the AC wasn't turning on and that was fixed by replacing the switch. But I still can hear the clunk at night. There has to be somebody that comes at night.

    I would recommend AHS, but there's one thing that I don't agree with it. I've had to repair my AC before, where the technician charged me for nine pounds of Freon which was almost $700. I don't like that they only cover the first $10 per pound. That's something that I would like them to work on to make it a little bit easy on people like us to be able to afford that. That's another reason why I am thinking of canceling my contract with them.

    I had a ground fault receptacle that kept faulting and I couldn't figure out what was going on. I paid American Home Shield the $75 to make the house call. I had no other out-of-pocket. A guy came out, looked at the issue, and reset it. Come to find out that when the rain comes, there was moisture getting into a receptacle that I didn't even know about. That was causing the ground fault to trip. The guy got it all straightened out for me and got it fixed. It works fine now. I was pleased with how it came out. I just wish that I had known I had that other receptacle. I probably wouldn't even call the guy. I'd probably just put a new one in there.

    I had two other claims in the past three years that we've had the service with American Home Shield. We had a dishwasher issue and technicians fixed that. There was also something else in the kitchen that wasn't quite right and that was fixed too. I've always been satisfied with American Hoem Shield and I have peace of mind. They put you in touch with people who are gonna be held accountable. You don't have to keep calling to get them to come and do the job. So far, everybody that has come and done the jobs has been more than competent in what they're doing.

    With my latest claim, the garbage disposal was leaking. The tech came and put in a new one. The previous things have been a nightmare. If it's anything that costs more than $200, it's your fault. When I went through nine million questions, knowing that at some point in the next couple of years my air conditioner or heating was gonna go out 'cause it's 50 years old, the agent said it's all good until it actually breaks. The contractor reported to American Home Shield that it was broken. It was my fault because it wasn't maintained. Okay, it was 50 years old. I was pretty sure it was maintained. Then I got a letter stating that until I replaced my unit, they won't send me any money. Then, they bend you over and screw you. So, I'm getting less than $1,000 for something they should have completely replaced based on what their contract says and what their agents say.

    My heater also broke. One of the guys they sent out walked over and turned on the gas and did not light the pilot. I looked at him and said he should light that first. He could have blown my entire house and me. Then it says in their contract that they're responsible to put in a matching system. That's a lie. They told me that they could put in a heater that would match my system. Well, they cannot match a 50-year-old system. They should legitimately owe me the $7,000 I just forked out to replace my complete system. They were giving me 900 for my heater portion of it because it was only my heater that went out and it was my fault anyway. They're liars and they're horrible. The people they use are a nightmare.

    The ceiling fan needed to be repaired. I alerted American Home Shield via their website. It was very user friendly, and I was given the name and phone number of who was going to come out. All County was great. He’s sent out before and he's always solved our problems. He was at my house before I was notified that he was assigned. I put in the claim late one evening, and he texted me the next morning at 7:45 and asked if he could be here at 8:00. So, he was out before I was alerted that he was assigned. I talked to him and I watched him do this work. A screw had come loose inside the ceiling fan and the blades were loose. He said it wasn't the typical fan where you could just loosen it and pull it down a little bit and work on it. He had to actually take it completely off the base. The repair helped a lot. It's been unusually hot up here and we have no air conditioning. So now, the fan works.

    This is the fifth week that somebody is supposed to come in here to fix my ductwork and it hasn't happened. I already paid the $100. I already made four calls to American Home Shield to try to get a guy out here. I spoke to the people that were hired to do the work and their guy was going to be here on a Monday. I was out of the country and he never showed up. American Home Shield is supposed to take this up to the next level and nobody has done it.

    Their foreign call centers are pathetic. They are hard to understand and they don't understand the empathy part of it. You have to be very empathetic of people that are having issues with their house because either the AC, water heater, or stove is down. But you can't be empathetic on that side because you don't own any of those things in those foreign countries. It's very hard to understand what's going on on this side of the phone. So far, American Home Shield's service has been pretty crappy. If they can't get to you in a week, good luck.

    That aside, American Home Shield did do a good job on some other stuff. I only used them a couple of times. I get the COVID thing with the parts that we were waiting for. They did a good job of following up with me on the parts. But with the ductwork, I would tell a consumer, "The first two, they did a good job, but this one, they've done such a horrendous job that it just kinda wipes out everything else.”

    I was feeling really great about American Home Shield until recently. I had an issue the other day with my hot water heater and I haven't heard back from them. The plumber that they sent out told me that they likely wouldn't cover the part on my hot water heater. They've been slow to communicate any information with me. The original issue was that there was a thermal coupler that had gone bad on it. I paid my $75 and AHS sent out an electrician. He changed out the part on it but apparently, he didn't hook or tighten something that was supposed to be tightened on the hot water heater. A gas leak developed as a result and I had to call Pacific Gas and Electric who provides my gas service. They sent a technician out and he said that there was a gas leak and he shut it down.

    The electrician came back and said that it was on him but he couldn't relight the pilot because the part that’s supposed to light it had wire on it that was broken. So, he had to light the pilot manually. He said that the pilot needed to be fixed so that this thing could be lit properly at some point. They reached out to see if AHS would cover the pilot. They were told that AHS is not likely to but I'm not sure an official answer was ever passed down. I'm considering replacing the hot water heater myself so I don't have to mess with them anymore. I was feeling positively about the American Home Shield for the first few times we had to use them but I don't feel so great about them anymore with the most recent one.

    Last year, I had the AC unit replaced. A company came out and they just jury-rigged the job up and put a whole new unit in. They told me I needed $500 to pay for the modification. But I came to find out that they did absolutely no modifications. They used a lot of the old parts, like the condenser coil, which was 17 years old. They did illegal modifications because they were running new refrigerant and half the system is the old system. So American Home Shield sent out TNT to work on the AC. It's still not fully done. I've talked to TNT and they told me that I needed to have them go back out there, so I've got to get on the American Home Shield website and get that taken care of.

    We went from November of last year till February of this year with no heater in the same property. American Home Shield was trying to send the first company who did the AC job. This company kept screwing around. Finally, I had to tell American Home Shield that I didn't want them back. So TNT came out and they had the heater going on the first visit. That should have been done the first time, instead of waiting four months. American Home Shield gave me no discount on my policy. They gave me nothing to compensate for being out of a heater for four months, in the middle of winter with zero-degree weather. I had to buy heaters and firewood. I also had water pipes freeze up and bust. It was insane. I was gonna drop American Home Shield then, but I didn't. Then I dealt with the AC issue that, once again, would have never happened had the first company installed the correct stuff at the time and did the entire job.

    I was completely satisfied with TNT. However, I'm not satisfied with American Home Shield. They should get their people to stop hiring substandard companies to work for them. The only reason that my heater got fixed was because I had to file the Better Business Bureau claim. Every time you’d call the American Home Shield number, you’d talk to somebody in a foreign country that doesn’t care about what's going on here in the United States.

    We got our dishwasher fixed probably three months after filing the claim and that was all due to Sears plugging it up. They were horrible. They couldn’t get the part and every time I called them, they were trying to sell something. They were using American Home Shield as a way to sell something else. American Home Shield ended up sending Whirlpool out and Whirlpool had Diamond Services do it. They did a great job on our dishwasher. We had an issue with the AC too. There were some debris blocking something that was creating a water. It wasn't doing it right and was making a mess. A contractor got it working and we’re all good.

    When filing a claim, it’s kinda hard to describe what’s going on with your problem, especially an air conditioner. It could be many things and you just kinda go with what you can with the choices that you're given. But we like American Home Shield and we're pretty happy with the overall service. It does seem like you go through a little more red tape but at the same time, we haven't had too many issues.

    The tech came at a reasonable time. Even though it was a holiday in between, he came the next day after the holiday. He pinpointed the problem and partially fixed it. But he has to come back and fix the rest of it. Also, AHS is paying for the parts but I gotta pay for the rest of the stuff. I didn't know that was in our contract. Other than that, AHS is a good warranty company. But, you gotta read the fine print because from the first time I started dealing with them 10 years ago, things have changed. They've tweaked things that they're gonna pay for. A lot of things that they used to take care of, they don't take care of anymore.

    I had a hot water tank that was leaking. Getting to do the end result can be a pain in the ** talking to these people on the phone, who really don't understand what's going on. They're just order-takers. After talking to American Home Shield, their tech came out and they said it was leaking. And within three days, I had a new hot water tank put in. I had another claim a month ago when my dishwasher went out.     6/16/21 - 8am - Requested service for Central Air Conditioner/not working.
    6/17/21 - 8am - Told to call back in 4 hours.
    6/17/21 - 12:24pm - Told to call back 7:30 tomorrow.
    6/18/21 - 7:45am - Told still looking for a contractor. Supervisor to call me back.
    6/18/21 - 11:30am - No call from Supervisor. Told being submitted for me to find a contractor and get reimbursed. Told to wait for a call.
    6/18/21 - 3:00pm - Called to find out why they charged my credit card (normal service fee) yet have not provided me a contractor. I begged them to let me find a contractor then they could reimburse me. Was told if I let anyone look at my AC it could negate my warranty.
    6/18/21 - 4:40pm - Same Line; "looking for a contractor".
    6/19/21 - 1:45pm - Same Line; "looking for a contractor".
    6/20/21 - 1:36pm - Same Line; "looking for a contractor". Told it will be Monday before I get a call.
    6/21/21 - 10:36am - Same Line; "looking for a contractor". Told my request was being sent from dispatch to another department and it will be 24-48hrs before a contractor calls.
    6/22/21 - 3:35pm - Called sales line. Gentleman seemed sympathetic and bewildered that I haven't heard from AHS. Gave two numbers to call and said to ask for a supervisor. Called both and get the same message.
    6/22/21 - 3:50pm - Same Line; "looking for a contractor". Talked to a representative who could not switch me to a supervisor. But when I insisted, she said she could put me on hold and a supervisor would get with me. Said wait time was 40 minutes.
    6/22/21 - 6:01pm - Waited 50 minutes on hold for a supervisor. I hung up.
    6/22/21 - 6:26pm - AHS called me. Told me they are having trouble locating a contractor. Put me on hold to call the one contractor in Louisville, KY that they have. He left message with contractor. Told me he will get right on it first thing in the morning.

    I contacted them for my elderly parents' home AC. They are the warranty provider. Contract #**. They sent out Beaches Air which has 1 star reviews. First tech said he couldn’t do anything. Second tech said was not experienced. Third tech said needs coil. Then when I asked when coil coming they said first I had to agree to refrigerant at $2800. Called AHS several times to get straight runaround, even on Facebook still got runaround. AHS then sends out Total Air- he seemed to know the most. Agreed needs a coil, said refrigerant should be around $1400 maybe. Why would we pay that much for refrigerant when new units are less than 4K. This company is bad. It’s been 3 weeks and I still have no AC for my elderly parents.

    A/C went out and the vendor they dispatched has no appointments available for 2 weeks (they are sending someone from Eugene, OR when we live in Salem, OR). Our temps this weekend will be in the 100's. When I called and asked for someone to be here sooner the rep told me that if they tried to dispatch to someone else it could delay the process even further. This is the script they are provided because the rep I spoke with yesterday said the same thing, they both even said "just as a heads up, it can take longer". I offered to find someone local and be reimbursed and she said it doesn't work that way. The rep also refused to let me speak to her manager. Their customer service reps are very unhelpful and could care less about our situation.

Had I known how simple submitting a claim was, I would have done it sooner. But I liked that it was automated. The contractor was very fast. It took them five minutes to fix the problem, maybe less.     The technician got right to the problem. He told me exactly what was wrong, what he was going to do and how much it was going to cost. I asked him questions about a replacement and he told me I probably still had two years left on my compressor. He was fast and professional, and I was very impressed. So many of my friends are single women like I am. I tell them, “You don't have to worry about going through the phonebook looking for something. All of these people have been scanned.” I had problems having to have my air conditioner fixed and the contractor told me it would be two weeks. I called up American Home Shield and they said, “We're dropping that person and we'll have someone contact you.” Within an hour, I had another person. That day, the problem was fixed.

    During the quarantine years, there was a problem with communication at the AHS phone. They didn’t answer for a while. But things got ironed out and it took a while. Lately, I had a couple of reasons to call and everything was very timely. We had an electrical problem that was a little complicated. We got it taken care of. The warranty didn't cover, but they found us an electrician that got the work done. We also had Comfort Pros come out for our AC and they knew what they were doing. Everything went very well and we were happy with them. Having American Home Shield service is peace of mind. When you move to a new area, you really don't know people, you don’t have that network. So, we appreciate that.

    In the bathroom, the new washers didn't work and the whole faucet was deteriorated. Then the aerator of the kitchen sink was broken and it cracked off. It was very weird. I kept putting glue on it and finally, it wouldn't stay on anymore. It was frustrating because every time I'd do dishes, that thing would fly off and it looked so yucky. And when I’d use the dishwasher, all the water would squirt out, so I couldn't use my dishwasher.

    I called AHS and they said the techs would call me, and if they didn't call me that day, for me to call them. But they wound up calling me right away. They were from Lake Plumbing and they were very professional. I was told that the faucet couldn't be repaired and that it had to be replaced. Everything is perfect now and it was really refreshing not getting sprayed in the face every time I turned on my faucet. That was just going on too long. I was also very impressed with their service because I've used companies before with the home warranty and they come in with attitudes or they didn't want to do something. But these people knew what they were doing, and were polite and clean. As a matter of fact, I wanted to call that company and tell them thank you. I just never had the chance to.

    The beginning of service with AHS wasn't good because I waited six months to fix my refrigerator. I started in October and the techs had the appointment in January. We were sick with COVID though and I didn't want any visitors to come. They came in March but they didn't fix the refrigerator well so I called again and I asked for more service. Two months ago, they finally fixed it. Now it's working well. I got AHS from a referral because one of our friends was saying AHS fixes very well and even if they couldn't fix their refrigerator, they give a new one. I tried AHS because I had the same issue but it didn't work for me. I had to wait a lot.

    There was an issue in an upstairs toilet where some things cracked inside the bowl part and some of the parts that pertain to flushing. It was kind of squirting water everywhere and the contractor fixed that. The other issue was a kitchen sink problem where the water wasn't coming up through the spigot and they replaced it. But I have to call them back because the spigot’s already dripping. But overall, having a home warranty gives great savings. In this case, I had two issues and it was one call payment. American Home Shield also covers larger things if something happens to my air conditioner or heater, water heater, etc.

    I called American Home Shield for the air that wasn't coming on. They gave me their contact info for Blue Sky and told me when they were coming out. The technician came when he was supposed to and took care of us. He had everything with him that he needed and didn't have to come back. We needed a new thermostat to solve the problem and so far, so good. The only thing I don't really care for is American Home Shield just raised my rate. It used to be $40 and something and it went up about 20 some dollars.

    Affordable Comfort and Construction contacted me on a Monday morning. I told them that my air conditioners were leaking water from the ceiling. They came out that same day or the next day and I was at work and my mom stayed at my home. They told her that something was clogged up. They unclogged it and they left. I was thinking that solved the problem from the water dripping but I could still see some water marks in my ceiling. Two or three weeks later, it started that dripping again. I called American Home Shield back on June the 20th or 21st and told them that it ain’t even been a month since Comfort came out the first time and it was back leaking water. They emailed that company. It took them two or three days to respond to me. The guy called and made the appointment for somebody to come out and check my AC unit again.

    The owner came on a Friday after the 21st and told me that the coil can was rusted out and needed to be replaced. He would email American Home Shield all this information and he would call me to set up an initial appointment to come fix it. But I haven't heard from anybody. I even called them and left them a message, and still nothing. I've been away from my home since Thursday night because it was so hot. He told me to turn that AC off because it was leaking water so badly and he didn't want it to mess up my ceiling. I'm not satisfied with this AC company. Evidently, their workers knew it and didn't tell me or notify the owner so he could notify American Home Shield about it. This could have been fixed by now. I called American Home Shield about 11 o'clock this morning and they didn’t have anything from him. They just told me that they would email him again.

    American Home Shield has come highly recommended to us when we started in rental properties because you never know when things are going to break. Usually, the cost of having something fixed is far higher than what you even make annually in a rental property. That's the reason why we have one for our own home and we would recommend to all our friends too.

    The recent claim experience was good. The technician had the part and the problem was fixed the same day. However, I had to go through multiple vendors. Some of them were not available for a couple weeks so I started calling them from the option list. It's easier to talk to somebody versus doing a claim online. Sometimes, it takes multiple days for somebody to even get back to you. If you get a person on the phone, you can say, "Do you have any type of adjustments in your schedule at all that can accommodate?" Ours was an air conditioner. We had over 100-degree temperatures that week so to wait two weeks was not something that was feasible. A couple of days is fine but a two-week waitlist is kind of absurd especially when you're paying a company to have available services.

    American Home Shield is fine. The actual installation, we've ran into a couple of issues, so wasn't particularly happy with that. When AHS set up the date, they came out. And when they opened up the dishwasher, they discovered that it was damaged. So, had to wait a couple of more weeks before somebody came out, and they scheduled another date. And they said, “We're gonna be here between 3:00 and 6:00.” By 7 o’clock, no one was here. So, we had to call. And they said they had a flat tire. They came back the next day after the flat tire, and they fixed it right in the morning. They were very prompt and professional. They did a great job. So, everything got done. But if you're gonna say 3:00 to 6:00, be there between that.

    American Home Shield was recommended to me years ago. And it has been great for me all of these years. The only issue I've had lately, I've tried to log into my account, and I couldn't. And I've tried calling customer service, they told me I have to call a different number. I called that number, nobody answered. So, I haven't been able to get into my account since I made that initial request for the dishwasher repair. But anytime I speak to somebody, they've been fantastic. But it's just getting somebody for getting into my account which is the only thing that has been frustrating. I would recommend AHS. It's not their fault that the Lowe's installer had their issues. If I can get this one thing cleared up, it's the only blip in 10 years of being with AHS.

    I have three electric heaters high on the wall with a fan. The two-bedroom ones did not work so I had a technician come out. He turned on the thermostat, held up a fan to the heater and said they work. He said they weren't broken. I couldn't get any heat out of them but he evidently could. Plus, he took one of my lightbulbs. He said I didn't need it and left. It seems to me he should have given me something but he just went out the door with my lightbulb.     I had a leak from my vanity down to my downstairs. Dockside Plumbing came out and they were very rude. They said they couldn't determine the leak until I removed my vanity. That's the whole bathroom sink. I did it as they stated. They then said that it was not normal wear and tear and that the people that removed the vanity broke the pipe. That was insane. I had the leak before they even came out. American Home Shield had to realize that I couldn't get behind the vanity and damage anything. Dockside said they sent a report. How do I even trust the report that they sent back? If they're saying it’s not a normal wear and tear, what is it?

    American Home Shield has to have a contractor that makes sense because a contractor can write up anything. Dockside wanted the business because they said they could fix the plumbing and they would give me a price that both of us could be happy with. Even if that was the case, they wouldn't get the business. I didn’t like how they came out from the start of it, very disrespectful.

    I asked American Home Shield for a different contractor and they first told me I had to do it within seven days. But I called within seven days and they said that they couldn't send anyone else out there. It was to be another $100 that I didn't even get satisfied with for the first $100. I told them that I'm canceling this contract. Now, they said they're gonna send to give me a second opinion. They also waived the payment for that.

    I'm not happy. Everybody that tells me they have American Home Shield and has had a problem is very unhappy. American Home Shield tells you they're going to come fix stuff but they don't. They have an excuse about they can't find parts or they don't do this or that. It needs to be more clear about what is not covered and what their limitations are. The people that finally come out are excellent but my experience has been that they have to okay every single step with American Home Shield and it takes forever to get parts or replace anything. If you can get an American agent to talk to you, then you're fine. But when you call about replacement appliance and they call you back with somebody that you can barely understand, it's not very good. They finally got a plumber out to my house after three weeks and I'm still waiting on a refrigerator and June 9th was the original call on that thing.

    Our left back burner had a burning smell to it and it wasn't working properly. The repair guy came out and looked at it. He said it was burning on the back of it and he changed some electrical conduit in the back of it. It works now because at first, it was burning if you turn it on. It's not an electrical burn anymore. But now, if you turn it on medium, it's either low or high. It's not gonna go from two, three, four, five, six, or seven. So, it’s still not working properly.

    In the past, we had other claims with American Home Shield and they were great. They save you money in the short term because you pay your deductible and you get your stuff repaired. But it takes them time because if for example, we got a refrigerator that needs repairing and the refrigerator is eight years old, the refrigerator is no longer being sold. So, the parts are out of stock and it takes longer to get those parts. You are without your appliance for an extended period of time and it's hard to run a household without a refrigerator for three weeks.

    I called in for my furnace not working and my ductwork and American Home Shield contracted out Lays Heating. Got the name and number off the AHS website. I gave them a call and they didn’t answer right away. Finally, they ended up calling me back. The tech came down to look at the work and said he'd give me a call back about the next day once he gets approval. I haven't heard from him since and that was a month ago.

    I tried to contact him many times. I've also been calling the American Home Shield service number and I keep getting the runaround with them. They kept saying they would try to reach out to the contractor and I’ve told them many times that I've done that. Then I said I would like to speak to a manager and they said they couldn't do that but they would have one call me back. I went through that whole ordeal about four times.     A couple of years ago, we had some pretty bad companies come out. Also, there was always a bit of a language barrier and not fully understanding what I'm was asking or what I needed. Other than that, the setup online was really easy. In recent years, the people that have come out have been more knowledgeable and helpful. Recently, we had an issue with our water heater. The techs replaced it but two hours after they left, the heater broke and released water all over the basement. It was a struggle trying to get the tech to come back out and take blame for it.

    When our water heater went out, we paid the initial fee, and then after that, everything was covered by American Home Shield. We struggled at first because Texas suffered a freeze in February. A lot of things were going bad for everybody and many contractors were occupied. Our water heater had to be replaced because it was cracked, but it was backordered. We still had water, but it was leaking in the garage. Once the contractor got here though, he was amazing. He was absolutely professional and communicative. He would communicate when he was on his way. American Home Shield is a great service. We unfortunately remodeled the house afterwards, completely, so a lot of the things that they would have covered didn't qualify anymore.

    My garbage disposal was leaking, so I called the American Home Shield. They sent somebody over, and they fixed it the next day. I've got a new garbage disposal. I had some other damage, but that wasn't covered by American Home Shield. I need a new cabinet but the company who installed the new garbage disposal had somebody coming in an hour later to take care of the other problem. I had the garbage disposal removed, so they did an excellent job. It was clean. They didn't leave any dirt. I'm very satisfied.

    When we had the freeze, I was worried about my air conditioner. So, I called American Home Shield and they sent a company over. That took a while, but that was due to the freeze. Nothing was broken, but the gentleman came over and he was very friendly and knowledgeable. Before that, I had a capacitor replaced at my air conditioner. So far, I'm very pleased with American Home Shield and I would definitely recommend them.

We had water spilling out in the rinse cycle through the air gap and needed to get it fixed. And the gentlemen that came was great. He did his due diligence.     We had a claim for a gas range that was not working and there were some issues with that. Three technicians came and they refused to work on the appliance. Finally, somebody who could work on it came and they figured out that the gas range was not repairable. We have authorization from Home Shield to replace it and that's working out okay. We are now looking for a range. We haven't zeroed in on finding one that's within the price range that Home Shield will approve but we're getting close. As soon as we buy one, we'll send a bill to Home Shield to get reimbursed. Aside from that claim, we had quite a few repairs. Home Shield's service has been excellent and I'm very satisfied. As the homes get older, having the home warranty saves you from any big expense all of a sudden.

    I called American Home Shield and needed someone to come out. I had an issue with the toilet and they sent somebody out. He changed the flappers but the toilet was still running. When I called American Home Shield back and told them that I needed somebody to come back because I was still having the issue, they gave me the runaround. They said that the initial person that came was not in my area but I had to use that same person. So I made two or three calls trying to get someone to come out. Finally, I got somebody on the phone that said, "No, they are not in your area so we're going to have to send somebody else out." The thing with American Home Shield is if they can't fix it, they will replace it. They did replace the toilet but it took several calls for them to do that.

    With American Home Shield, once you call and put in a request to have someone come out because you're having an issue, they need to have someone come out, take care of the issue, and take you off their list. It seems like you still get calls from people trying to do the job once the job has already been done.

    American Home Shield has been worth it. I have three plans in three different houses. On one of them, I've used it enough of times that it has paid off. It's a good plan to have though it’s a little bit high on a monthly basis. I pay $75 a month for each plan then I pay $100 for each service call. So if I have a contractor come out once a year and I pay $75 a month, it's kind of an expensive call. But it's better than having to come up upfront with it. Recently, I put in a work order for my outlets that weren't working. The guy that came to my house was awesome and I was satisfied. However, when I have to put a claim in, I dread it. When you call and try to get somebody on the phone, you wait forever. It's ridiculous.

    My husband and myself have had American Home Shield for nearly 9 years. They pretty much do what they say they will when a service call is either sent in by logging onto their website or by phone call. But over the course of the past two to three years, we have had a few issues with them. Number 1, I am on oxygen at night plus several hours a day. I also have other medical issues as well as my husband. They have been aware of this since the beginning of the contract. Air conditioning is part of easing the symptoms for both of us. So when our A/C went out a couple of times over the course of the yearly contract, We called for service and every time we had to wait anywhere from 3 up to 5 days before seeing a repair/service provider to come out and fix the problem! Living in Southern Arizona, temperatures can reach up to 115 degrees.

    No 2, when our refrigerator went out, it took one of their repair providers 4 times to get the problem fixed. That’s because he had put the replacement part in backwards, causing us to lose all of the contents inside. Estimate replacement cost: $300.00 plus. Also, now when calling in, your calls are answered by customer service in the Philippines! Now when you ask for a supervisor or update to your service call, they can’t or will not forward your calls into the states.

    The claim for the dishwasher was addressed very well. It was an issue with the drain connection and was solved rather simply. The technician also found some other issue with the motor of the dishwasher which I haven't seen. He ordered a part, came back in time, fixed it and didn't make a mess in the house. The third incident I had was an electrical issue. The first company American Home Shield sent was terrible. The guy just came in, did nothing, and left. It was a very difficult two weeks until they were convinced to send a different company. I called the center maybe six times. Every time, I had to explain the issue from scratch to the customer service rep. They kept repeating everything was fine. They still had to give more opportunities to the first technician. I had to resort to Twitter and Facebook and start reaching out to them through that way until they were convinced to send a different company.

    The customer service reps either don't have the will or the decision-making to do pretty much anything. If things go well, everything goes well. But if there is a problem, they cannot solve it. When I call the people, they just pick up the phone. I don't gain anything by explaining to them the problem. They just assign a technician and I still have to talk to the technician.

    Recently, Medallion Plumbing came out and did a great job on my water heater. But when Sears came out for my dishwasher, that was a problem. The first company that American Home Shield went to send out here couldn't come for almost two weeks. I said, “That won't do. Is there anybody sooner?” They said they could send Sears. Before we had American Home Shield, we had Sears and we loved them. We switched because American Home Shield covers more things. I was so excited because no matter what Sears had come out for - my refrigerator, my dryer, my washer, my dishwasher - it's been fine. But boy, was that a disappointment. The lady acted like she didn't know what she was doing and said, “I know how it's a pain to do.”

    Previously, the dishwasher filled up with water and wouldn't drain. A Sears guy came out and he was fabulous. He had to take the hoses undone to find out why it wouldn't drain. He pulled the whole dishwasher out of the hole it was in and disconnected the hoses, drained them into a bucket, and a screw fell out. A screw that holds the dishwasher in place worked its way loose. It got into the lines and wouldn't let the water drain. I told the lady all of this. I told her we needed to know where those screws went. She couldn't just put two screws back in and be good. For one thing, the dishwasher had to be repaired because we couldn't use it. We turned it on and had to put a chair up against it and a TV tray with weights on it so that the thing wouldn't move if we tried to use it to wash dishes. Both screws were out and when you opened the dishwasher, the entire dishwasher came sliding out of its hole.

    I told her that needed to be fixed with screws put back in, but I needed to know why they kept coming out. That shouldn't happen. I've had many dishwashers and that's never happened except with this one. She said, “No, I don't think you can do that.” I told her she had to find out where those screws went because if she would just put two more screws up in there and we didn't know where they went and it blocks in the line and it fills up again and won't drain, I’m gonna have to call American Home Shield and pay another $100 for that when it's the same issue. She said, “I don't know how to look for screws.”

    She went out to her truck for a few minutes then came back in. I asked, “Do you have any way to look up the records from Sears and see what the last guy did?” She said she didn't have any access to that. I told her if she didn't know how to do it, could she contact somebody that could tell her, or the last guy that was here. She said she knew how to do it. I said, “That's all well and good. But I don't wanna pay $100 to have somebody come out again to locate them when it's the same issue.”

    We cannot use the dishwasher until it is secured back into place. She said she didn't have any screws with her and she'd have to order them. My husband went and got a container of screws he had on the garage and brought it to her. There were two screws and she kinda put them back in there. She disconnected the tubes finally to try to look, but she didn't really tip it down and try to dump anything into the bucket. She just disconnected and hooked it right back up. She also seemed irritated. She was sitting on the floor with her back to me. There's a plate you take off on the bottom of the dishwasher and she took that off. I said, "Could they be under there?" She was kind of swinging her head around like I was irritating her. She said, “I don't see them under there. The tubes are clear. I'd be able to see it.” She barely did anything. I paid $100 for her to put two screws in that my husband already had. We just wanted the screws located or my husband could have done that in the first place by himself.

    But I would always highly recommend American Home Shield. I've told my sister and I have my brother do it for his home and his rental property. Just in our family alone, we have four accounts with them. We're real happy with them. They don't know that they're gonna send a worker out here that's gonna act that way that's why I let them know. That could happen no matter who is sent here.

    I called American Home Shield and told them that I didn't have any AC upstairs. It was blowing hot air. They told me that the contractor should be out probably within the next 24 to 48 hours and gave me the name of the contractor. Some guys came out on that Monday. I found out that I had to pay $1,100 to repair the unit and that the freon that they were using was pretty much discontinued. That freon has been going up steadily year after year.

    I finally got fed up and told American Home Shield to send out somebody so I could think about replacing the system. They sent this young lady out on a Wednesday and looked at the system. She told me what was going on with it. She went over all the things that would be needed. She looked at everything and told me how much the price was. She explained everything that she was going to do as far as putting in a new thermostat, opening some ducts, etc. I wanted to get three quotes so I told her to me look at two more agencies. She told me the earliest that they could get to me was Friday. It was extremely hot. So, I went and I checked the next contractor. They had a really good deal, too. They came out, looked and gave me a price that was $50 more but they could be out on Thursday so I ended up going with them.

    If the homeowner is doing renovations, repairs, etcetera on their own to save from having to make claims, American Home Shield should drop the price of the contract down some. The amount that I paid for this one system to be replaced was 8,000-and-something dollars. It was repairable but the thing was, it was every other year that it was going out. I didn't want the hassle of having to keep going over and over with this AC, especially with the freon going up as high as it did. When I first started off with that freon, it was maybe $65 a pound. That was a lot. But this last time, it was $135 a pound. So, rather than sit there and keep paying for that freon, I just say get rid of it and stop having problems. I understood that they couldn't give me anything off for the old unit. I was concerned, though, that they might want to lower my premium next year or this year.

    I cleaned the outside unit, and in doing so, there are the things you pull out that it disconnects everything because it’s 220. And when I put it back in, I didn’t know that it only goes in one way and I had things upside down and it wouldn't start again. The unit wouldn't come on. The inside would blow but not the outside. I didn't know what I had done or if something had gone wrong in the process of me washing it. But the tech went ahead and did that, and did a diagnostic on it while he was here. He made sure that everything was okay, checked the inside unit and the Freon, because he was already here. He provided very good service, was very helpful, and didn't make fun of me which was nice. I was concerned about some foam having come out. He said, “No, don’t worry about it. It's okay. It doesn't matter right there.” And some of these little things. But that was all it was. Everything was okay. He double-checked.

    The stove went out Thanksgiving. The oven element burned. It just disconnected. So, I was gonna have a contractor come out and replace it. Also, the glass cooktop had cracked. They said they had to order it and I said, “Okay.” But they never could get it in. The company that came out at one time was in the house for 10 minutes because the element had actually burned behind the firewall and had clipped together and burned a part in the oven itself. So, I was gonna replace it, but I couldn't get it off. And it was an electrical thing that needs to be checked and nobody would do it. So, I said, “Well, can you at least just come out and fix the element? And I’ll be happy to wait for the glass top. That’s probably a major issue. We still have two burners that work.” It would arc. It had some great fireworks.

    The communication was my biggest problem. I made a total of 20 something calls to them. Because they said the stuff was on order and they promised they would be out in such and such date. We made an appointment. And I called, “Are you gonna be out there?” “Oh, yeah, we're gonna be there. We'll call.” But they never called. I was not a happy camper. And they would call and I would get the same thing, but it was a lot of redundancy. I would check and then they would get the same information and then nothing would happen. I was very disappointed with AHS about that. We couldn’t even turn on the unit, put stuff on that wall, because of the arcing from the electricity. We went out and ate a lot. We would borrow the neighbors' ovens. But we got AHS to buy us a new stove. That was from November all the way through April.

    We got a very nice oven. I went to Lowe’s and got it at a good price. We paid the $400 difference. The oven happened to be bigger than the old one. I had to work on the cabinets. Other than that, AHS has been very good and quick. I messed up the air conditioner on Memorial Day and we didn’t have any air conditioner for that day. I messed it up on Sunday, which was raining and cool, and Monday was a bit warm, but we had ceiling fans and that worked, and then the contractor came out on Tuesday. AHS also did the refrigerator when we had a leak behind it, and they did the dishwasher. We just had the one snafu with the oven.

    Every time we've had to go through American Home Shield, it has been most efficient. There was only one delay. I was trying to get someone out here and it was around the holidays so that was understandable. Other than that, for what we pay and to only have to pay that service charge, the home warranty is very helpful. We used the service over Christmas. My sink was clogged up so I had a plumber come out here. We also did service in the springtime when my washer was leaking. American Home Shield is very good. I love being able to do the claim online. I can also cancel it easily and they reimburse me. Everything seems to work out. A neighbor of mine had a refrigerator go out two weeks ago.     The plumber that American Home Shield sent to me refused to come to me earlier in the year. When he did show up, he told American Home Shield a line of crap. He said I live on the top of a mountain off of a dirt road and he could barely get to my house. I told American Home Shield to ask their other contractor, the cooler guys, if it was true. Those people have been out here two times to service me and had no problems. I'm in the center of town and I have a paved road out front.

    The service girl that I talked to said she would put in a buyout on my water heater and it would be $595. Since American Home Shield couldn't get me a plumber, I told my plumber to go ahead and get me a new water heater. I paid for that but I was never reimbursed for it. That infuriates me to no end. And each time I call American Home Shield, I have to give my whole life story. I have to give my address, phone number, city, and state to three different people before they ever connect me. And what's the first thing that that person asked me for? The exact same thing that I've told them three different times.

    In the past, I was very satisfied with American Home Shield. However, I am totally dissatisfied with the plumber situation. The company lied to me, telling me they will buy me out on my water heater yet I haven't heard anything nor do I have a check from them. I'm still fighting to get the money that they owe me. My husband has said we are going to find a different company because American Home Shield is ridiculous. I put out well over the money that I should have had to put out and they sent me the same stupid plumber. They also took his word over mine.

    That aside, I had other people come out for my washing machine and my cooler. Both of those people were excellent. It's just that with the cooler, American Home Shield was a little slow in ordering a new one. Because of this, the people who were installing it couldn't do anything until American Home Shield ordered the parts and they waited for the parts to come in. That took a couple of weeks.

    The technicians who have been here did a really good job. They were responsive and quick, so I'm happy. This last experience was the one that caused me to cancel American Home Shield. I'm not pleased with it at all. There are two things that really stand out in my mind. One is May Heating & Air. They told me that my air conditioner's old. It was an air conditioning problem. They said that they needed to replace a coil inside of my air conditioner, and that after that, it's going to need like 9 lbs. of R22, the old-style refrigerant that they no longer make. I had to pay for a big chunk of that out-of-pocket. It was a lot of money.

    I decided to call another HVAC company on my own. They were able to put 2 lbs. in the system and not 9 lbs. May Heating & Air was very misleading. If my only option was dealing with May, it would have cost me several thousand dollars out of pocket. I had it fixed for just a couple of hundred dollars. May told American Home Shield and me that it was gonna be like 9 lbs. of Freon. The thing doesn't even hold 9 lbs. It could hold like five or six. May Heating & Air is very not trustworthy.

    The second thing is I've been always paying on time for the last three years, and the options that American Home Shield gave me to repair my air conditioner were worse. The air conditioner is over 25 years old and needs to be replaced, and I didn't have a good option to do that. They offered $450 toward a $4,000 replacement, which is not reasonable at all. I could have gotten around the vendor situation but the thing that really pushed it over the top for me was the position that American Home Shield took on replacing my air conditioner. I paid something like $2,500 over the three years that I've used them. "And what has my benefit been?" It's been a microwave, the dishwasher, a couple of repairs, and now this air conditioning thing to me is a real negative. I don't think I've gotten the value that I've paid into it. So, I'm not satisfied with the service.

    AHS is up and down sometimes with what the warranty doesn't cover and certain things concerning the AC. Like if I need Freon, I gotta pay for that. They are nickel and diming and sending people back and forth. They gave me such a great sales pitch but there's a fine line with it that's trickery, just to get my service and telling me you're covering everything. And I'm like, “Well, this would be a benefit for me and my family, that I don't have to worry about overhead if I could pay monthly to get a service done."

    However, the warranty is very disappointing. If my AC is not putting out correctly, AHS tells me that they only pay only up to a couple of dollars of Freon. I'm really looking for other places. I'm paying for service, maintenance, and the home warranty. AHS is the worst. They play on words and I don't like that. There are some things they fix and that I appreciate. But right now, I'm just upset.

    I've used American Home Shield for several years and sometimes, they get companies that you can tell that have experienced techs but then, you also get companies that you wonder if you can trust to even touch the appliances. It would be nice to be able to establish a relationship, like asking for a contractor that you've worked with and you were impressed by, rather than just being assigned one randomly. There could be some consideration to the companies that have serviced our homes in the past. Also, I wish that there was longevity. Some companies reward you for being a long-term member. But other than those, I've always recommended American Home Shield.

    I had a claim for the refrigerator and I was really pleased with the way that AHS handled it. They have a new system and it looked like it improved a lot from this year and last year. The process was very easy. The only thing is, when I received the part, its label showed a warning about the material. I told the technician and he said that it was identical to what I had and if we didn't use it, I had to wait for another four weeks. So, I just took it and put it in the refrigerator.     I've got two AC units and I've had problems with both of them this summer. That was the upstairs unit. And we noticed that we were still getting air, but blowing out cold air. So, we contacted American Home Shield and they sent out Koalafied. They explained that there's a compressor, a coil, and there was this and there's that. It just got to the point where I said, “Okay.” So, we're replacing a lot of this air conditioner. And we also needed to refill the Freon, which would be expensive. Because it was a 20-year-old unit. It was popped back and forth. Finally, I just said, “You know what? I'd rather just pay out-of-pocket to get a new air conditioner,” which we were anticipating. It was going to happen one of these days because the unit is original to the house.

    AHS has been a lot easier to work with than my previous home warranty company. Because I had a horrific claims experience with them, which is why I canceled that policy and I signed up with AHS. Inside the house, I'm fortunate to have a Wolf range. And that was one of the things that I negotiated very carefully in the purchase of a home. Those things are expensive. It's a beautiful range. It's 36 inches, which is bigger than the average range. And it has the four burners, plus, has an infrared grill in the middle. And the oven itself, because it's a bigger range, is also bigger.

    We were having trouble with the range. So, I was like, “Okay, well this is why we have a home warranty.” So, we went ahead and called it in. It became a big issue because I kept making sure, if they were sending technicians, that they had somebody that could work on a Wolf. Because not every appliance repair company can do Wolf and have access to the parts suppliers. I got to the point where I finally had to jump through hoops and contact my own technician because they couldn't find anybody in their network who would work on a Wolf. And then the back and forth on what was going to be covered and what wasn't. And my out-of-pocket was ridiculous, the amount of parts that they refused to cover. It has been explained to me before that when AHS said there's only a certain amount of warranty that will actually get covered. But for the most part, parts, like the mechanics of making the machine work, should be covered.

    It was a fight. It was drama, and I was not treated politely either, which was what made things worse. Because it's like, “I'm paying you guys monthly. I expect to have some level of coverage. Because we put the money in, and you make these repairs. This isn't a computer chip-type appliance. This is a very mechanical appliance. And mechanics can be fixed, and you can replace parts, and it'll last forever, and we won't have to get into the messy business of trying to negotiate for some type of replacement.” And just arguing with me until I was blue in the face. They tried to say, “Well, you've got professional equipment in there and it’s not covered.” And it’s like, “No, this is the gourmet line, which is designed for home use. Don't try to pull one over on me. I'm not dumb. I read the terms of my contract. I am within the terms, you are going to be paying something.” I get not everything. And I understand, too. Not all the labor is going to be covered. But the amount of work that I had to do in that transaction was ridiculous.

    Other than that, AHS makes it easy. I don't have to talk to them much. I go ahead and submit the form online, they reach out to somebody, and they always got back to me quickly. So, however they are structuring their partnerships, they know that when AHS says, “Jump,” they say, “How high?” And I have started talking to my Realtor because she’s helping me with a couple of transactions now. She's a personal friend. She runs a Real Estate investing club that I'm in. And I've told her when she is negotiating for home warranty for her other clients, to not use that other company and to look more closely at AHS. Because if it's going to be a simple negotiating tactic of, “Hey, we're willing to pay. I'll make it up. $500 for home warranty,” use AHS because the buyer of the home is going to be more satisfied than if they use that other company.

    American Home Shield does a great job. I've done several different things with them and I've had good results. When my AC wasn't cooling, they fixed it and they did a great job. So far, it's still working fine. At another time, I had a little trouble with the oven that I purchased. It was supposed to be delivered, installed and the other one taken out. When the delivery guys got here, they said, "Oh, no. We don't do that." That was not so much fun.

    All along, I was told, "Oh, yeah. They come in. They put it in. They take it out." The rep should have let me know if they don't do that. 'Cause I could have had an electrician here the day it was delivered. I had to pay someone to come in to do the job. American Home Shield is supposedly sending me some money to take care of that, which won't be enough because to have someone walk in the door is $100 anyway. Other than that, I'm very pleased. I got the oven. It's working great and looks great.

    People should get a home warranty. It's stupid not to have it, especially on air conditioning units. I realize the cost is about $700 a year, but go try and buy an air conditioner for $700. You can't. Everything's so expensive these days. My ice machine cost $900 to get fixed. I had to pay $100 fee for someone to come here and do it, but $100 is a whole lot better than $900. It's a great deal. You get your money's worth, unless you have all brand new appliances in your house. Also, a home warranty would be great for younger people that are starting out, especially 'cause there are so many old houses.

    The temperature gauge of the water heater wasn't on and I couldn't get it to function. The water was also scalding and I was unable to adjust it. I submitted it as the controller was not functioning and the process was difficult because there were some things lost in translation with the call center in India. They had processed that as a wall heater, so they sent an electrician out twice for me to look at it until somebody realized the mistake.

    Finally, the technician came and checked it out. Yesterday morning, it was early, he said he ran it to try to get cold water into the tank and to get the temperature to decrease and he was unable to do that so something about the water temperature regulation wasn't working and that seemed to be the most serious problem. He said there was sediment in it too, but that didn't seem to be the primary concern for him. That happens with time with water heaters. But I believe that was the primary concern. I'm waiting to hear back from them to make the appointment.

    I would like to see a more personalized approach to each individual instead of talking to somebody in a call center. I made three different phone calls to the call center in India and every time I called there, I was on hold for at least a half hour before I talked to a person. Then every time I talked to someone, he would look it up and he would have an idea of why I was calling but it was almost like starting at square one. Each one of them had a different approach to solving the problem until finally, the third person realized that it was inputted incorrectly into the computer.

    By the time I called the actual heating and cooling company, they said that they would have to call the warranty company back and tell them this. I hung up and I was literally in tears. I couldn't wait on hold anymore. That was very frustrating. My sister and my dad are also customers of American Home Shield and after telling them this experience, they were both surprised. They said to keep them informed if I have more trouble because they continue their service year after year.

    When the AC unit stopped working, American Home Shield told me that someone might come out that same day which really surprised me. But they ended up coming the next day which was fine. I was so impressed with how quickly they responded. The technician was on time and took care of what he thought was wrong. He told me that he thought it was one thing then he looked into it and said it was something else. He replaced the converter 'cause it had overheated the night before. However, it's not fixed is all. When I got home for the weekend, I checked into it and turned it on real high to see if my house would cool down, and it never worked.

    When I called American Home Shield today, I wasn't sure whether they were gonna make me pay another $100 for someone to come back out. The last time, they made me pay before they would even take my information. But they didn't charge me for it this time so that was cool. American Home Shield gives me peace of mind. Having something to back up my house so someone can come fix it up since I can't is great. There's a little bit too much recording but overall, it's easy to narrow it down to what I need. I've already talked to family members and recommended them.

    AHS is a terrible company who does not honor their contractual obligations and have non-existent customer service. We have kept our warranty with AHS for over 10 years and in that time have used them a handful of times for random repairs. If you need something replaced however be ready to have them not honor their end of the deal.

    Our stove has been broken for over a month. It has been impossible to get accurate information from their agents-they outsource some of their customer service to other countries. We have asked to speak with a supervisor, which they refuse to do-only offer a call back but the supervisors rarely call back at all and if they do it's late at night-like 9:30 pm. They pass the responsibility and the blame onto the local contractor when AHS is the one who drops the ball.

    A month after our stove broke and today I find out we are back at the beginning-AHS claiming the part was never ordered because they were waiting on information from the contractor-I have PROOF this is a lie because I've been in contact directly with the contractor and have proof of the information they provided AHS weeks ago. AHS is refusing to call or email us back to resolve this and so in the meantime, our stove remains un-usable.

    It's unbelievable how badly they treat their customers and the length they are going through to avoid replacing our appliance. Do you think it's reasonable to be without a stove for a month when you have three small children to feed? AHS does and they could care less about you, your family or the fact that you've been a loyal customer for a decade. I have never had such poor customer service, anywhere!

    I contacted American Home Shield as my AC had stopped working. It’s June in Texas and the AC not working qualifies as a be emergency to our family since we have a child who suffers from asthma. The first contractor that they assigned the call to could not come out for 5 days. I asked them to assign it to a new contractor and they did. That contractor was able to come out in 48 hours. They assessed the issue however as of writing this it is four days later and the repair has still not been scheduled to be completed. American Home Shield says they have our issue flagged as urgent however still no AC. I will update my reviews once our issue is remediated.

    I've had several claims with AHS. One was electrical, one was re-keying, one was for an appliance, and one for plumbing. When I scheduled a service, I paid a flat fee of $75, then they had a technician text or call me and we scheduled the service. So far, everything went through and I haven’t been charged anything extra. Some techs were better and more experienced than others, but they were thorough. When I had an appliance issue, the tech transferred it to a plumber, but then the plumber said that he should have checked this and he would have cleared the debris. But the tech came back and fixed the other issue. All in all, I like the convenience that AHS brings. I'm a new homeowner, so a lot of things can go wrong or there can be maintenance issues. So, majority of things are covered in the house and the warranty makes it worry-free.

    Usually, it's 45-plus minutes to get through American Home Shield. But when I reach them, they get me scheduled pretty quickly. Recently, I filed a claim for the spring that had broken. I could not open or close the door. The contractor was supposed to be here earlier but whoever rescheduled it never called me and told me so they came out at a different time than what we had been sitting here for for the time that the email said. But the guys were very good. They were in and out and this time, American Home Shield covered the claim.

    A couple years ago, one of my springs broke on my garage. The thing was 14 years old. The chain or the belt broke on it and American Home Shield told me that it wasn't normal wear and tear. They said that they couldn't cover the cost of it, even though I've been paying on everything else. So, I have told a couple of people that they have to be careful in the contractors that they get. It was a rude contractor that came out and he came out twice. He was the one that was telling American Home Shield that it was not normal wear and tear, that it was the weight of the door and the weather that caused that to break.

    The weather is a normal thing. Everything gets worn by that. The American Home Shield person told me it wasn't going to be covered and I had to come out of pocket $475. It took me a while before I contacted American Home Shield again. But I kept them as my warranty because I couldn't let one mess-up affect everything. I had two houses under American Home Shield at the time and I've only had two really rude technicians since 2009. Everybody else has been very helpful.

    A plumbing company came out once just to look at everything. They told me they were going to get back to me within a few days. It's been a few weeks but I still haven't heard anything about the work order that I've put in. I've been calling and I left voicemails. Even when I called American Home Shield, the two people that I spoke with put me on hold then some survey questionnaire came up for me to answer. It was asking how I would rate the person that I had just spoken with. But they had not done anything. They just told me to hold on for a second and that they were calling Total Plumbing Solutions. One time, I was on for about 15 minutes or so.

    American Home Shield was recommended to be a pretty good company that's why I chose them. But what I see now is they are really not. I'm not really happy with my service. I haven't gotten any update about anything. I don't even know what's really going on. I'm just paying money out each month. I paid the $125 fee and I still haven't gotten any help.

    The tech addressed the issue with the fan and replaced it. The refrigerator was not sealing and the tech made it seal. He couldn't fix the dishwasher that was leaking though. He tried to fix it the first time. The second time it leaked, it stopped leaking in the sink and started leaking out from somewhere in the door. I sent them pictures of both and he fixed it. I used it again and it leaked again. He's supposed to come back out on Wednesday. I also did a claim for the oven and the tech ordered the part and put it in. However, sometimes, when people tell you things, they're going so fast and you can't remember half of it. They should shorten it a little bit and tell me what am I supposed to do or how American Home Shield works in a language that everybody can understand.

    Long Lane was dispatched by AHS for two things. For our washer and for our cooktop range. Both were looked at very quickly on the same day. When they came out, they assessed very quickly and it was, “We're gonna replace it.” I said, “Okay.” For the washer, it was identified that the bearings had were worn based on the sound, and after doing some research, I felt comfortable that that was what it is. And based on the contract itself, that would be too much to repair it, versus just putting out the money for a new one.

    But, I had some issues with selecting. They sent a series of selections for me to choose from, which I did not feel were comparable. I understand they don't match color or other amenities, but I have a matching washer dryer. They sit on pedestals. I couldn't get a straight answer in terms of identifying something that wasn't going to look awkward in the space. So we elected to go with the check for the replacement value and that was where it got really confusing both in terms of the contract and in conversation with the representative.

    I was thinking a check was in the mail ‘cause they identified that there was a problem and that they're going to reimburse me for the replacement value for the existing machine. I was waiting for the check, but there was no check. It's on a reimbursement basis. I was thinking, all this time I'm waiting for a check, which they told me would be delayed. But no one ever said, “Okay, you need to go out and buy a new machine and then email us the receipt to this address,” which is apparently a different address, too.

    But initially, when I call, the dispatcher, in terms of setting up the appointment notification when the service person is en route, when to expect them, that is all A plus. But when I have to follow up, that's when we get into, “Okay, what did I sign up for?” When I call for a follow-up, I get someone, and for me, there is a language barrier. I find it hard to understand a lot of times. When I call, I have to give my contract number, the purpose for my call. A representative comes on and they're asking me the same questions. So I'm feeling that I just went through the process of putting that to get this fast to them and now they're asking me to confirm everything all over again down to email, phone number. It's redundant.

    There were three appliances that are all outstanding since May 21. So we're over a month and none of the matters have been resolved. One of the things, which was a different contractor for my doorbell, I followed up the day before yesterday. The customer service was inconsistent. But the person for appliances, as far as the update, was wonderful. I could understand and she offered to assist me.

    As of right now, I haven't seen anything promising about American Home Shield. I am not too satisfied about the overall service. It seems like every time I call, I get a different foreign person and no one can explain themselves thoroughly. It seems like everyone's name is Chris and I don't know how every person has the name Chris. Every time, I've been told something different and I'm still going back and forth with them.

    I put in an appliance request. The service company was very quick and contacted me within the same day that American Home Shield called them. However, they weren't able to get the part so it was not repaired. American Home Shield told me that they were going to issue me a check so I was waiting for a check. Yesterday, I called and the next Chris told me that they were not going to issue me a check, that I need to go out and purchase the appliance first, which actually makes more sense to me, but I don't see why they didn't tell me that in the beginning. Today, I went to look for the appliance and the amount that is going to be given to me is not covering the appliance amount.

    I was happy with the service experience that Nice Air Conditioning did. Everything went pretty well. They were very good. They were both clean and they figured out the issue rather quickly. Sometimes AHS can be good. I do mechanical plumbing work myself. Most of the time, it's overpriced for what you're going to get out of it. I don't know if the value is worth it or not. But the response time and what they completed were definitely worth it in this case.

    I initially put in a claim for an HVAC since the outside unit stopped working, but when the guys came out, they said that they weren’t allowed to touch it. I didn’t think about it being electrical until I went up the attic and saw what it was. I noticed that two of the units didn’t have power running where I'd normally seen them before. When I opened up the breaker box and looked at it, two wires that were plugged into it had a power surge and had burned out. Had I put the claim in right, I could have got it done a whole lot faster. I had to wait for an electrician to come out because American Home Shield actually closed it out. My wife had to call because a week or so went by and they were supposed to call. Then the guys that came for the HVAC thing were supposed to put the thing in for an electrician to come out. My wife had to call and tell them that nobody reached out to us. The follow up not being done properly is my only issue.

    Then the lady was trying to say something about getting charged again. I figured the $75 would have been for the initial request, and then if it was something that they couldn’t do, it would have just been processed as the same thing going to the electrical. But they waived it, so I was okay with that. The electrician came and changed out the entire box and rethreaded the wires in the fittings to where they were supposed to be. He explained some things to me and he was a good dude.

    An AC tech came out that I complained to American Home Shield about and they didn't do anything. They still charged me and the contractor never came back to correct their work. One time, it was an electrical system. The guy looked at the light and said it was the wiring from inside so he couldn't touch it. Again, they charged, they didn't do the job, and they gave me an estimate there on how much it was going to be. I had my people come out and it just took them 10 minutes to do the repair.

    The reps sitting and working are good people. They try to help. It's the contractors that are the problem. AHS sends contractors out to people's homes and they give very minimum to these contractors. And when the subcontractors go to people's homes, they create extra work if they see people who don't know about things that have to be done. They charge and do extra work, which is not even necessary. Then, when people start complaining about what the contractor is doing, they are not listening to us. They are listening to the contractor.

    I liked the product that I was given through American Home Shield. However, the people that brought the replacement microwave out didn't install it because they don't do that. I've had to go out and hire somebody else to do the install, and I'm still waiting for the check from American Home Shield to pay the installer. American Home Shield was quick in handling the claim. I've always been happy with them for that but the company I originally bought the microwave from in four years, all of a sudden is not making replacement products so I had to get a new one. It doesn't make me happy. That's not their problem but the fact that the company that delivered it doesn't install it is kind of an issue. I now have it sitting on my kitchen counter waiting.

    Overall, having American Home Shield is worth the money that you pay out. It costs money every month and you look at it and say, "Why am I paying for insurance?"     Air & Water Solutions was at my house on May 27th and I still haven't received the air conditioning unit. The order went in from Air & Water Solutions and AHS kept saying that they never received it. Air & Water Solutions sent me a copy of the confirmation that they received from the carrier and when it was going to arrive. I even paid Air & Water Solutions for the refrigerant. It was not included in the contract with AHS which I totally understand. But I kept calling back AHS and they kept saying that I had to contact Air & Water Solutions. It's been back and forth.

    There was a delay in AHS ordering the part. When they finally did, it was two weeks later. The lack of communication from AHS is one thing. It's frustrating. I've been communicating with Air & Water Solutions directly, cutting out AHS, even though I'm supposed to be going through AHS. But they're completely useless and giving me no information. Their front office is terrible. They switched it over. You call and talk to reps in the Philippines, and nobody knows what's going on with the order. It seems like no one is in charge of AHS. I have already started telling people not to use it. It's a scam. But Air & Water Solutions has been great. They texted me today, saying that they picked up the compressor which is the part that I need for my AC. Now, I'm working with them on an installation date. But at this point, I don't even know if I'll ever get my air conditioner fixed. I'm very close to canceling AHS.

    The AC wouldn’t kick on. We'd turn it on and it would just hum. The tech came out and inspected it. Then he found out the capacitor was blown, so we had to order one. He came back and fixed it, and it's working great. He did a good job. There was a lady that did the oven the other day and when she came and replaced a part in it first time, she didn't test it. I think it should be tested before you leave. Other than that, having American Home Shield is a good idea. It's a pretty good thing.

    We had a clog in the tub and that was undone. We had a small pipe upgrade done as well. When I had asked the plumber about billing, he said, “American Home Shield, should probably take care of everything for you.” But I'm not sure. My understanding was that once a claim is submitted, it would be reviewed, and then I would be given a result whether or not it’d be covered. But, I haven't heard anything.     Before we went into bed, my wife noticed that the AC wasn't working. I went downstairs in the basement and the compressor of the air conditioner was frozen up. I immediately got on the phone on 23:30 Eastern Time and gave the lady my information. She asked what was wrong with it. I was not 100% sure. I knew what it looked like and I told her. Then she said that was not going to be covered. Well, I'm not an AC and heating specialist. I told her that what I've known is I pay 100 bucks and they get me some professional come out to look at it. She said yes, but she still said it was not gonna be covered. I asked her to let me speak to her supervisor and she did not transfer me. I had to threaten her four times to get her to do that and then I still didn’t get one.

    I told her that was not how she should talk to customers. I was hot. My wife said to just hang up on her. I said no. I was pleasant with her requesting it, and she refused to. Then I told her that she could just shoot the supervisor an email to have him call me the earliest convenience in the next few days. She then said that somebody should give me a call between 9:00 am and 10:00 am. I have not received a phone call since.

    Other than that, the services were great. When they connected me to whoever was going to come out and look at the service, I called the people and they said it was going to be a week or two weeks until they came out. I called American Home Shield back the next day and now this rep was right on it. She did exactly the way they were supposed to do things. She went above and beyond looking at stuff for me instead of me doing all the groundwork to figure out who would come out as soon as possible. The lady on that call took about 10 minutes with me being on hold and she had me somebody who came out within a few hours. That was the kind of service I expected.

    We signed up for this because you never know when you’re gonna need it, something's gonna go out and something big, for example, your air conditioning or electrical work. It's not for the appliances, because I can just go buy another appliance. We were lucky that we had it because our AC went out this year. We had the service, so it was like, "All right. It's great. Let's call American Home Shield up for the service, for whatever is covered." I followed through the steps. The contractor came out and did their initial step, which is to insert the dye into my system to see if there were any leaks. At that time, I was a Gold member. I had to pay the difference in the refrigerant, so that was 470 bucks just for that, plus the $100 for them to come out. So, it was close to almost $600 for that service. And then at that point, I still didn't know whether that would solve the problem or not, because if the leak gets plugged, it actually clogs up the holes.

    Two weeks later, we were back to square one. There was no air conditioning. It worked great for two weeks, then there was no air condition so it's hot again. So, then what do we do there? So, at that point, I'm like, “I'm not paying another $470 for a refrigerant." So, I bumped my service back. I bumped my package up to the Platinum so the refrigerant was covered, which is great. So, I call the contractor. The contractor come back out. Same contractor comes back out.

    And then at that point, they see that there's a leak in one of the parts inside the inside unit, which is connected to the air condition outside. They said, "I recommend replacing the parts." So, they went back. They sent their diagnostic in to American Home Shield. And at that point, the technician from the HVAC company told me that, "American Home Shield is gonna review this, and they'll tell us what's covered and what you pay out of pocket." I said, "What do I pay out of pocket? What do you mean pay out of pocket?" Because at that point, I don't know that I'm supposed to pay anything out of pocket. So, then they said, "Well, sometimes different warranty companies cover different parts and this, that, and whatnot." "All right. I’ll follow the steps."

    It has gone on for two to three weeks after that initial two weeks. I'm out of air condition for five weeks now. It's 90-some degrees here on the East Coast lately, so it's really hot. And I got kids. I went out and bought a temporary air condition for 500 bucks. So, that's another cost. I got it while this whole process is going on.

    And then I got the quote from the HVAC company telling me that I would be responsible for paying $1,500 to get it fixed. I looked at the quote, and saw exactly what's covered and what's not by American Home Shield. American Home Shield is gonna cover the refrigerant because I'm paying the premium to get the Platinum package. But everything else is not covered. They didn't put the cost for the part. They put zero, but the parts are probably 250 bucks. And then the refrigerant is 410 bucks. And that came up to almost 1,200 bucks. So, I thought, “I'm out another $1,200.”

    I called American Home Shield. They said, "We're still reviewing this and this, that and that." It has been a big runaround. And the bottom line is, at this point, I said, "Okay, I'm just gonna do it.” I have no choice. I gotta get my air condition working. Too much money involved in this thing, so I might as well just get it done. I paid 50% down already, which was 700-something bucks. And I'm just waiting for the parts right now, and then they will schedule to get the work done. But the overall experience with it is, I thought I would get a lot more out of it. If I have to pay this kind of money, I would've just called a contractor on my own and not use American Home Shield.

    Make sure you read or understand the package before you sign up for it. My sister has it. That's why I signed up for it. My other sister has it. And none of them have used it. They only use it for their appliances. Which I have had a home warranty package before when I purchased my house 13 years ago, and I used it. But when I updated everything I had in my house myself, I canceled the program. I know how it works, so I never use it for anything large. Now I know that that's really how it works.

    I understand that there are gonna be limitations on certain things, but I wish they would actually spell that out to you before you sign up for it, that you're only gonna be covered for a part or be covered up to 20%. I wish that people would know that when they do this. And who knows? This might not work. I'm paying $1,500 right now. They might come and replace the part, do whatever work they gotta do. Two weeks later, I might have another issue with the thing. It might end up being a continuous thing here.

    We thought system maintenance checks for each system twice a year for heating and air was part of American Home Shield, but it's not. But in general, it's a fairly simple and very efficient process with them. I am able to do it on my phone. The claim is quickly taken care of. The only time we have an issue with American Home Shield is if there's a problem with the vendor. In that case, there's nobody that you can speak with to address the problem with the vendor. But we only had that once. The vendor didn't come for several weeks and it was our air compressor. If we'd known they were closed, we could have gotten another vendor. But nobody could get ahold of them and they didn't return our calls to let us know that. Once we got the part in, it was still quite a while trying to get ahold of them.

    In that instance, if it's something out of the ordinary and American Home Shield needs to jump in and take care of things, a customer needs somebody that they could physically speak with. They got the ball dropped and it cost us probably $1500 in heating and air costs. But all the other instances with American Home Shield have been good. We've had good vendors and we've been happy.

    American Home Shield had my washer and dryer fixed and/or replaced. There was also an instance when someone came to unstop the drain in the basement. He did a good job because the water doesn't back up. Right now, I'm trying to get a refrigerator. American Home Shield tried to fix the one I have a couple of times with the LG compressor. They bought a compressor and a guy put it in but it did not work. American Home Shield gave me money for another refrigerator. I also have a technician coming out because the dishwasher is jammed. If my one thing gets fixed, another thing breaks down.

    My sister has American Home Shield that's why I got them. I love the concept of paying one time a month and if something goes wrong, they fix it as opposed to somebody coming out, looking and saying, "You got to pay this. You got to pay that." You may go a whole year and not use the service but what you’re paying is helping somebody else get service. If we all keep it going, we can all get our needs met. If something goes wrong, then you just make this simple phone call and they send somebody. Usually, when that person comes and they have what they need, they fix the problem. If they have to order something, they order it and come back and finish the job. I recently had plumbing issues in the bathroom and kitchen. The first guy came out and did his work. He fixed everything. The second time, two guys came and did their job too.

    I've had two large home warranty providers. One is American Home Shield and the other is a company that duped me. That other company wouldn't fix anything. Even their contractors hated them. That contract ended and I said, "Let me just go to American Home Shield because I had them before." Every time I call them, I'm very pleased. They have great contractors and they are responsive.

    Recently, our air conditioner was not getting cold. The contractor called almost immediately. They did have to come out twice because the tech was thinking that it was just out of Freon. but I called him back that same day and I said, "It's still not getting cold." And so he assessed the situation. I was pleased that he was very responsive. He was also very customer-oriented and sensitive to the fact that there were senior citizens living in the house. He put everything in the back burner to make sure we had air conditioning.

    The claim process is easy. You go online and request service for a covered product and American Home Shield sends you the name of the repair person. If that person doesn't get in touch with you within a certain amount of time, they'll give you another company. Just like with the very last claim I had. It was for my dryer and it happened on a holiday weekend. The guy who was originally supposed to come and do it, I never heard from him at all, even saying, “We won't be able to do it until Tuesday,” or anything like that. American Home Shield sent me to another guy. He came out on Tuesday, and he fixed it.

    My dryer has had trouble with the heating element and this was the third time I've had to have it repaired. He was here a few minutes, and it started working. I was very happy with the whole process. It’s very simple. At another time, the icemaker on my refrigerator wasn't working. We found out that the freezer was only 26 degrees and it wasn't making cold enough air to freeze ice. The repair company checked it out. There was something wrong with the Freon and it got water in it somehow. It was not the first time I had it repaired and there was no way they could repair it any longer, so I got a new refrigerator.

    American Home Shield said I could get the one that they were going to replace, but I looked at it, and it was too wide for the space that I had. I went to Lowe's and picked out the one I wanted. That's what I used to have. It was a French door with a bottom freezer and it matched my other refrigerator, but it wasn't gonna be available until July. I went with a different refrigerator because it was available and it fit my space. It’s a side-by-side now. It was installed, and it's working well. All in all, I've been happy with American Home Shield. They've always fixed everything and I've never had any question.

    I had a wonderful experience. Clutch Appliance did a really good job. They diagnosed the problem and had to go get some parts. We had to reschedule for them to come back to put the parts in when the parts arrived. For some reason, after they put the part in, there was a hiccup where it had some other problem. I called them directly and they came back out, figured out what had happened and fixed it.

    A contractor repaired a gas range. They came out in a timely manner for the initial review but they did take a long time to come out for the installation of the parts. They weren't the most professional but were friendly and seemed very knowledgeable. I recently have another claim that I’m having a lot of problems with. American Home Shield needs to hire people that are closer in our time zone. I called the other day for this issue.

    They were giving me an air conditioning repair person that was going to be three and a half weeks out to come. I told them that was not acceptable. The rep said they couldn't call the technician right then. I told them I didn't want to waste another day. They had already wasted a day telling me that their systems were down the day before. I asked, "Why can't you call right now?” She said, “We have a policy. We can't call after 5pm Central Standard Time.” It was actually not 5pm Central Standard Time, it was only 4pm. She kept arguing with me and there was nothing else I could do about it. They were probably overseas so they're out of touch with the time zones or didn't understand the time zone changes. I wasted a whole ‘nother day because of that.

    My parents oversee my property in Austin for me. My mom told me the icemaker required repair. A part had to be ordered. Technicians put that part in but the icemaker still does not work. I'm not very happy about that. My parents are frustrated because there had been multiple visits for the icemaker being broken. They had to keep adjusting their schedule and there has been no yield. It's hard to coordinate these visits with my parents’ schedule so out of frustration, they said they would get some ice trays.     The tech came out and looked at the refrigerator. When you close the refrigerator, it’s supposed to seal so that it keeps the cold air in, and the seal is cracked. The tech said that it had to be replaced and he said that first, they were going to call and make sure it's covered, then they were going to order it. That was at least two weeks or more ago. So, I called AHS at the end of last week and I found out that it's covered. Their rep told me that she was going to get back with the company and I haven't heard a word since.

    Other than that, AHS has been really pretty good all along. When I submitted a claim for our air conditioner, the guy came out and everything was fine and handled. The people that they send out always handled my issues. But this time, I've never had more trouble than I have, because it seems like my issue is just being ignored on the part of the company here in Vegas, or at American Home Shield.

    My AC was not working and it was not cooling. I raised the request and the technician from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came in and said that the evaporator coil was gone and the Freon was completely leaked. He said that we have to fill in the Freon and change the evaporator coil. He gave me a couple of options, like only changing the evaporator coil and the coolant or changing the entire unit, and gave me some quotes. That system was 20 years old so I thought I will change everything. I submitted the reimbursement request and I'm in the process of changing the entire unit.

    I'm not completely satisfied with American Home Shield, though. The fee used to be $45 and now, it has increased to $75, which is very high for me. Also, they sent out contractors that weren't good. One came out a couple of times to fix the microwave oven and he was not able to fix it. But AHS was able to immediately change the contractor and they were able to fix it for me. And compared to other home warranty companies, they are far better.

    I'm still waiting for a contractor to fix my faucet and it's been three weeks. They told me it was because American Home Shield isn't covering my exact faucet. I have a Moen faucet, which is high quality, and AHS is giving me a less quality item. The thing is that the contractor never contacted me after two weeks. I had to call them last week about three times. The third time was when someone from that office finally gave me all that information. They called me Friday that they finally got a faucet. I took the highest quality that AHS was willing to pay for a faucet but the contractor should have at least contacted me and given me the option weeks ago. Besides that one, I've always had really good contractors. I've used AHS for years and I don't think I've ever had any bad reviews to give to any contractors that they have assigned to me.

    We had leakage coming out of the AC pan and I wanted to check the outside coils and stuff because it looked like it was freezing. Everesst Service Tech took care of the situation. They removed all the excess water from one of my AC unit pans and checked to see if there was still any drainage clogging on both units and cleaned out the area. Then, they went outside and checked my coils for freezing and any freeze.

    We're paying $75 per month. Plus, when we get a house call, we're paying $135. It shouldn't be like that. American Home Shield could pay us more money and we could pay less for a call. We paid $135 for the repairman to come in for the refrigerator and he couldn't repair it. That amount should have been reimbursed to us. It's been horrendous with the supplier of the new refrigerator. We were supposed to have it delivered on the 24th and they canceled the delivery at 3:30 in the afternoon on the 24th. Supposedly, the driver had an emergency at home and they pushed us back to the delivery of today so that we were a week without a refrigerator.

    We had an air conditioner problem. We were dealing with the recommended contractor in the Houston area. They came out, diagnosed the system as having low refrigerant and pool and said, “If you keep running it like this, you possibly could damage the air conditioner pool, the little disconnect that all air conditioners have on the external." Then led into an extremely hard high dollar resale or high dollar upgrade to fix it.

    When that was turned down, they left. Leaving an air conditioner nonfunctioning south of Houston, a few miles from the Gulf Coast is rather sucky. There has been a lot of trouble working with their contractor in the Houston area. They have been contacted, gotten very little cooperation, stonewalling, “We’ll call you back.” Not getting any callbacks. So American Home Shield has been okay, but their Houston air conditioner contractor is really bad. We've had some other dealings with American Home Shield with other contractors that went amazingly well, but this has not been one of them.

    Robert was awesome. He was very professional. Other than not being able to schedule the appointment for a while, the claim experience was good. I understand that AHS can't give an exact time because they don't know how long each job is going to take, but my husband doesn't leave for work until 10:15, so I had asked the woman who called me to schedule if we could maybe just be guaranteed to be the first job of a day because then he would still be home and we wouldn't have had to wait like weeks with no air conditioning. But she said that they couldn't do that. I didn't really understand that.

    Because a lot of my friends are sort of in the buying-their-first-home phase, I've told them that if their home is older, they definitely want to renew their home warranty because appliances will start to go and those would just be out of pocket and it would be lump sum expensive. I've told them that American Home Shield has covered fixing my air conditioner about three times already and that I get special deals on the seasonal checks. But I have also told people that if they go through the home warranty, they might have to wait longer than if they just call the company and schedule a service appointment. They don't get to choose the company that comes, too.

    I understand the waiting part, but it would be nice if I could choose the company because I've had different air conditioning companies come out for my different service calls and this last guy that came out who was so great was a little confused about why my thermostat was set up the way it was. He didn't understand why the air conditioner hadn't been cleaned properly the last time. He was like, “Yeah, maybe try to request us next time.” But when I fill out a claim, there is no place to request a certain company.

    I had a leak under my sink in the bathroom. The first step was American Home Shield assigned a contractor, and then the contractor got in touch with me. I got a call within a day or two, and then they set the appointment within another day or two from when we had the call. So it was just a few days between making the request and then getting the appointments. Then the guy came in. He was professional and he took care of the problem right away. Underneath the sink, there's a joint that looks like a J. And the one part had a crack and it was leaking there. He had to cut the old one out, and then attach the new one in.

    I talked to the air conditioning company this morning and they said that they are waiting on approval from American Home Shield. Once they get approval, then they can order the part, and to wait until they get the part, it will be another three to five business days from the point that they get approval. So we're looking at another at least a week without air conditioning. We had the same issue three weeks ago. Had a guy come out. All he did is he put more Freon in the system and it worked for a week and a half and then started having the same problem again. And it lost all the Freon that he put in. I wish it would have been handled right the first time so it didn't get worse.

    I kept turning the thermostat on my AC down but the temperature still kept rising. It was 85 degrees in the house. I'm 80 years old and that's not acceptable. I lived like that for five days or so. Finally, I went online and did American Home Shield to see what was going on. They responded ASAP that somebody would be there the next day.

    The service people were great. They had to go up on the roof because my two air conditioning units are there. They replaced something, added Freon, and fixed the issue. They were there for maybe an hour. That repair has helped a lot because there were a few days of very hot weather. I've almost always had good experiences with American Home Shield. But I had it for a rental unit and I found that they were expensive for that. They were not very responsive. That was a year or so ago.

    I've used American Home Shield quite often this year. A contractor came out and fixed our dryer. They did that in a timely manner. I'm waiting for somebody to come check out our fridge because it went out. They sent us a contractor, but they were swamped, so the soonest somebody could come out was today. I've been without a fridge since Monday. But they are fast at assigning a contractor out to me if I do something in the middle of the night. On the weekends too. That was a plus for me. They tried to find me a different contractor last time when somebody couldn't come out fast enough for us. And when I asked them to reassign me to a different contractor because of a bad experience I had with one of the contractors that came out with me, they were fast, willing to work with me in finding me a different one. Because I felt uncomfortable with the previous one that came out. With COVID and everything, AHS has been awesome.

    The refrigerator was cutting off. I submitted a claim on the phone and I had to take a picture of the issue and the rep was able to tell where I needed to take a picture of stuff. The contractor, Tristate Repairs, was very communicative. The day before they came out, they gave me a window and an hour before they came, they let me know they were coming. The tech replaced a piece that has something to do with the compressor thinking that was going to fix it. But the refrigerator cut off again. They had to replace the thermostat and then, he looked at the ice maker and said that had to be replaced. He was very helpful. It was a good experience and the cost of the plan is worth it.

    American Home Shield does a pretty good job. I pay $75 and someone comes out and takes a look at my problem. Whereas if I had to do it myself, who knows how much that would cost. I used the home warranty about five times. Four of the contractors were excellent. But the locksmith, who was the easiest job, wasn't very good. Recently, I had to replace something and American Home Shield did a pretty good job. The thing hasn't been put in yet but it's on its way.

    The bad part with the warranty is the small print. Read the small print before considering the home warranty because you have to understand what's covered and what's not. That takes a while to figure out. If what is covered suits what is in your house and what you are concerned about, then go for the warranty. But if it’s not covered, don't waste your time. In my case, I'm overall very happy with American Home Shield.
