I was in the attic the other day and realized my vent fan wasn't working again. I called it in before it expires because it's still cheaper to pay the service fee than to hire somebody else and get a new one installed for me. But the vent fan was replaced last year by a contractor from American Home Shield, and those things are supposed to last for quite some time, like 10 to 12 years. So to pay another fee to have somebody come out to change the exact same one that was supposedly fixed last time is problematic.
I had a hot water tank go bad on us this year. The contractor that was sent out inspected it, and said, “Of course American Home Shield would cover the hot water tank, but the plumbing wasn't up to code. And so, that would have to be brought up to code.” I knew that would be an additional expense. I called in American Home Shield at the time, because it was $600, which wouldn't have been bad, but I hadn't been in the house at that point and I thought it was weird that it passed inspection to buy.
In my neighborhood, there are other contractors and the actual city inspector. So I had them take a look at it and they said, “No, this is all up to code. So the person was lying to you. It's fine.” I called American Home Shield to let them know that I didn't trust the contractor that they sent out because they sent me this itemized bill of what it was going to cost, and the technician was lying to us. But American Home Shield told me that they couldn't change our contractor. That was insane. Why am I gonna have somebody come in that I know just tried to defraud me? They said, “We can’t do it. All we can do is pay you our cost for the hot water tank." This is a highly discounted rate versus what I can go to Lowe’s and buy it for, but it was still something.
American Home Shield sent the check and it took 120 days to get here. So that ended up not covering the cost. I had to hire somebody to install the hot water tank. It didn’t make any sense to me why when I have proof that the person is being less than honest that I couldn't switch the contractor. The person I talked to at American Home Shield said that once they've been dispatched, that's who it is. But I'm certainly not going to trust the person to come put it in because they might do something.
The local contractors where I live in New Orleans have not been very impressive. The only one that's been pretty decent was an appliance repairman that fixed the ice cube maker. It seems to be working fine. But otherwise, American Home Shield doesn't seem like it's worth it. The warranty could work if American Home Shield finds the right contractors.

I put a request in on June 28th for my freezer that stopped cooling and my icemaker that stopped working. The first time a technician came out, he said that the board was bad. They were gonna order that. Once they put the board in, the compressor could be bad and if that was the case, they have to order another part. When the first part was ordered, it was shipped to Miami. I live in Tampa. It took American Home Shield two weeks to get the part and get the guy back out here. He came out Tuesday the 13th. He was out for the first time on July 1st to diagnose.
I've been calling American Home Shield since the 13th to try and escalate and get my refrigerator fixed. But every call, I'm two hours on the phone with them, and I get nowhere. The combination of American Home Shield and this company is horrible. I've made multiple requests to speak to a manager or a supervisor. I'm told they couldn’t transfer the call, and all they could do is put the request in and have someone call me back.
I'm still waiting for a callback on that and that's been about two weeks now that I've been asking for that. I just want my fridge fixed but I keep getting the runaround. I called this morning and they said that it was being shipped to Hialeah, which is in Miami, then came back on the phone and said, “No. It's not going there.” I don't trust them, and I don't have a whole lot of confidence. I attempted, after the first visit, to get this request switched to another company, and they denied me and would not allow it. But I've put a request on my profile that I never want this company coming back out again.
I've had good experiences with American Home Shield for other things, but this is horrendous. This almost cancels out all the good experiences I've had. Refrigerators are pretty vital things, especially in summer. Over the 4th of July holiday, I had no refrigerator. Thank God I had the money to go buy a cheap one to put in my garage or I'd have nothing. They did refund my money for the request, but the time I've had to take to stay on top of them for this request is ridiculous. It's still not resolved and now they're saying the part’s expected next week. I get to start my week again making calls to try and make sure that this is being followed up on and taken care of.

This was the first time I used American Home Shield and I was okay with the service. The persons who came were very professional, polite and good. I was hoping they would have been able to resolve my problem but they didn’t. I paid out of pocket for them to come and for them to tell me they couldn't do anything didn’t sit so well. The man said that the water heater looked like water somehow got in the burner so, I need to replace it. But they had to investigate to see if it was going to be under warranty or not because we tried to fix it on our own. I had been without hot water for five days and we were taking room temperature water so I was desperate. I've got other appliances and hopefully that won’t happen if I ever need AHS.
We are grateful for the time that you've taken to share you AHS experience. Please let us know if you need any assistance in regards to your warranty. Have a great week.

I called American Home Shield because my air conditioner went out. They referred me to Metro Air Services, who couldn't come that evening, but were here the next day. They gave me a window between 1:00 and 4:00, and they got here about 2:00, which was really hot by then. They had to replace the motor and some other parts inside. I stood out there with them and they showed me what they did and explained everything to me. They even checked the Freon for me, too, because I hadn't had that checked in a while, and they said it was okay.

The Claims Department of AHS is okay. They got Caribbean accents but, for the most part, it's okay. Eagle Heating and Air came and they did a great job. For the heating air, they serviced it. We've had no problems since they left. The thermostat is working. I had a concern about my other ticket that I put in for the ceiling fan and the ceiling electrical. One of the lights of the ceiling fan is not working out of the four lights. But, none of these are covered under the contract. But, when I re-read the contract, I understand about the one on the ceiling.
But the bedroom, it says ceiling fans all components, I just assumed that's the whole entire fan unit. But apparently, it's not. They charged me. As customer service, they should have said, “Looking at your contract, these things are not included in your contract.” But after I read the electrical part, I saw the exclusion for the ceiling light. But under the ceiling fan, I was upset because it said all components and it had no exclusions. It didn't say, “Excluding A, B, C, D, E, F, G.” It said, “All components.” So, I'm waiting for my $75 to be refunded back to me.
I was a little upset about that part of it 'cause I've been a customer all these years. Why don’t they have an exclusion part but a ceiling fan so that I can go back and say, "You know what? You're right." Like I did with the electrical ceiling. I said, “You're right. It does specify that part of it.” But that's the only issue I've had with American Home Shield since I've had the service. Other than that, it's been good. I'm satisfied.

I like American Home Shield’s service. Every time I call to get a service done, somebody usually comes out. T Mayes came out for the garbage disposal. They said they would have waited a little longer than they probably would have but they came right out, so that was fine. Their guy was really good, professional, on time, and explained everything that he was doing.
I had a problem with AHS before about my furnace. That was back in the wintertime. I needed a part, and then they couldn't find anybody to come out. It was at night time and it was cold. It was a mess. It was a whole bunch of going back and forth. A guy did finally come out the next day. Then, I had to have somebody else. So, they sent another person. He had fixed it, but then it had stopped working again. Then, they had wound up fixing it again.

I live in Henderson, and the company from Longview that's signed up with American Home Shield came out and assessed the problem. They were knowledgeable and super nice people. The tech said the compressor was bad and he has to call the home warranty company if it's over a certain amount, and then he'll let me know. His crew doesn't put it in, but there's a crew from Dallas that puts them in. Within 24 to 48 hours, they called and said that they were going to install the new compressor. They came down and they were so polite, got the job done, and cleaned up. It was efficient and it was a great experience. At the end of our year, we get a renewal and I'm sure we’ll renew the policy.

The fan in the house stopped blowing and we called it in. We were going on vacation the next day so we didn't schedule the service until we came back the next week. The contractor came out when they were supposed to and they worked on it. The tech replaced it and the service was good. It's simple to submit a claim although there were times in the past that I had problems with some of the service people when they came out.
A few years ago, I had one of the worst contractors. I had an LG washer and it had three computers on it. When the guy came out, he said it needed a new computer board. When they ordered the board, another serviceman came out and he said it was the wrong board. He reordered another one and another guy came out and said it was the wrong one. There was more than one computer on it. It went back and forth for about two months. I wound up going over to whoever said and found out how to get a new washer out of it because it had gone on way too long. But this claim is a very good example of a good contractor. American Home Shield is great.

I had my AC unit serviced. The guy that came out said that it was very low on Freon or I had a leak. He said it could be the condenser, that fan thing that's outside. I said I have American Home Shield and then I'd give them a call. He said he was going to put some Freon in it and so, he did. It worked really great for three days. But then it was right back to where it was before. By the time that we got American Home Shield and got a guy out, it just wasn't working at all. The American Home Shield guy came out and he was very thorough. He checked everything upstairs, which is where I have the heating and cooling unit, and the one outside, and the thermostat. It's working perfectly now. AHS is very dependable and I would recommend them to anyone.

I found out that they're only a two-man operation, so they're small and they don't have an office, and they don't answer the phone. I called them several times over the last three months. Then I told American Home Shield about it. The company also didn't answer AHS. I just said that I'll wait a little longer and see what they're gonna do, if they're gonna do anything. But then I've had other claims in the past about my dryer that went out and AHS replaced it. They also fixed my garage door. When I first signed up with AHS years ago, I was told, “If we cannot fix it, we will replace it.” I had a pool pump go out. They sent me $315 to replace a $1,500 pool pump. They said, “The laws changed in California, and you have the single-speed pump. Now they’re required, as of the 15th of July, to put in a multi-speed pool pump to save energy.” But this was back at the end of May. I said, “It's not the 15th yet.” I only have a four-foot play pool. I said, “A single pump is all I need. If I get a multi-pump, I'm gonna have to do it twice as long, which is not gonna save electricity. And the law doesn't take effect until July.” But they said no, they can't get a pool pump placed in there to do that. I said, “What if my air conditioner goes out, and they changed the law, now I have to buy a $4,000 air conditioner?” I feel like I'm paying for nothing.
It also took me almost two months to get a check from them for that. That's even the $315. I also couldn't get anybody to call me back. They kept saying they would have a supervisor call me. It would take me forever to get someone to call me back. Because I think somebody in India answers the phone. I am extremely unhappy. If anybody asks me if they should get that from that company, I would say no. Then, they told me, “If your refrigerator goes out and we can't repair it, we can replace it with a different color.” It's not the same for the same. I have a $2,500 refrigerator. But if my refrigerator goes out and it can't be repaired, they can send me a black refrigerator, whatever's on sale. And what am I paying $50 for? If I'd saved up that 63 a month, I could replace anything in my house, and it would be no issue. I'm probably going to drop AHS.

I have another company that I have dealt with for many years before I got the contract with American Home Shield and I called them first because I had a midnight contract with them. They came out here and got me up and going because it was 100 degrees in Texas. I was working but they told me that the air conditioning was bad and we needed to do this. I thought maybe I could pay them first and do it but I couldn't because AHS couldn't use them. But Westex Air was very attentive and as soon as I got ahold of them through AHS, it was good. They got out as quickly as they could but it was not necessarily the best timing, as far as being able to get parts. I didn't blame them for that although it took three weeks. Had I had to be without air conditioning the whole time, I would have been in a mess. But thank goodness I wasn't because someone came and patched it.
Westex Air checked on everything and even the office was very good. I was very pleased with them. The outcome was great but I wish I could have used the company I wanted to use because it was faster for me but I couldn't. I haven't had a home warranty ever and I was getting to a point in my life where I kept thinking that things could start breaking and maybe I need to start thinking about that. And so, I would say to people that are doubters like I used to be that I had a great experience and AHS worked. And I would tell them about this experience. Even though I didn't get to use the company I wanted, I was pleased with the company that AHS recommended.

I've been very satisfied with American Home Shield. I pay my deductible whenever I have to pay a service charge and I never hear from them after that, except for wanting to know how the service was. I recently had a claim for plumbing and it was fantastic. The repair guy did a very good job. I had a claim before and the tech came out for my dryer and they had to order a part. After they left, it was not drying any better than it was so AHS sent a technician out again. I've had American Home Shield for several years, and I've been happy with it. If something happens, I know I've got coverage and I like having that. It helps me not be out of pocket as much. The week before last, they had someone come out. They’re working on a plumbing issue, and they got a part ordered. We're waiting for it to come in so they can complete it. The other thing is I have a wired-in smoke detector that I was having problems with. I called AHS on that, and I didn't realize that that was not a covered item. It's very frustrating with American Home Shield. Every time I call to the center, they don't ask for major details, what brand I have and what type of housing I live in. So, when they send in technicians, they say, “I wasn't told that your washer and dryer wasn’t one unit. You're gonna have to wait until they’re scheduling for two people to come in.” When I called American Home Shield, I told them that I have the brand name, the year I got it and that it wasn’t one unit. The washer was on top of the other. Now, I have to wait four five weeks for two technicians to come in and do the work. They make me wait for so long to get that result.
I don't know if they’re teenagers that are on the phones but American Home Shield is trying to get all the foreigners outside the States who don't have a good English accent. They do not understand the request. They are just trying to get good rating for being pleasant on the phone but that's not what I need them to do for me. I need them to have good listening skills, good writing skills, and good communication skills, regardless of an accent, so they can start writing down exactly what they need so when the contractors come, there's not an issue.
I had a heater problem and I called but the technician never showed up till the fourth day. I was trying to investigate and do everything until I finally fixed it myself. Then the technician came and said, “No. I don't see no code.” I said, “No, because I already fixed it. The guy said, "I'm already here. You're getting your $100 deductible, regardless.” He didn't even do anything but American Home Shield told me because he showed up, that the 100 deductible was out of my pocket. There's an app that you can say cancel and I did it but they said they never got it.
Then the AC problem walked in. American Home Shield sent two technicians that did not know my system. American Home Shield had to transfer me to another company, which was terrible, because it was on the 98 degrees weather that I stood with my kids in my house for three days without a AC. I had to rent a hotel because they couldn't breathe. It was too humid in the house. American Home Shield sent another technician. He didn’t come but called to and say, “I don't work with this system. They need to transfer this to someone that knows.”
I called American Home Shield again. I told them, “Please put that in your notes that my AC system is a communicative system and that I need you to bring someone in that knows that.” Finally, after the fifth day, Cool Factory came in. I'm gonna highly recommend them because they walked in and went in to do their business. They came prepared with the tools on hand and fixed it in less than 10 minutes. It took them more time to come upstairs and go downstairs than fix the problem. Also, they just did not walk out. They made make sure that the unit was working. They went to the vent, put the little radiator gun to make sure that that it was cooling off. They went to the other room and tested it with a gun. Then they went to the living room and did the routine there too.
I'm thinking I'm gonna withdraw with American Home Shield because the quality of service is awful. I went through three episodes, and none of them were resolved until I got really upset. I would ask to talk to a manager but they never passed me to a manager. I could have just talked to a manager and get that resolved for the one day instead of me waiting for five days to get my AC done. I'm not recommending anybody to American Home Shield because this is what's happening.

I put in the claim and I thought the vendor was supposed to get back in touch with me, but I didn't read the response correctly. Since four days had passed and nobody got in touch with me, I went back and read the response, and it said, “Please call and schedule your appointment.” I did that and immediately, the tech came out the very same day. He was very professional and responsive. My family and I were out of town and we were able to open up the doors for him remotely. He took care of the issue then texted me back to say he was all done and to lock up. By the time we got back home, the air was on and everything was fine. It was hot already out there, and the last thing we want to do is come home to a hot house. American Home Shield is definitely worth having. Costly repairs just creep up on you. You might not need it just like life or health insurance, but when you need it, you want it to be there and you don't want it to be expensive.

I've had good experience with American Home Shield ever since I've had it. It made it a very comfortable situation, being a first-time homeowner. It’s definitely worth having. Recently, my AC wasn't cooling because the outside unit wasn't turning on. After the contractor came out and diagnosed it to see what the issue was, they found out that it was an electrical issue causing the unit not to turn on. What they told me was when they came out to do the electrical work, the breaker directly beside the air conditioning unit had gone bad and that the whole right side of the breaker had gone out. They repaired it and it started working again. Now that they got that part fixed, the AC seems to be cooling but not cooling the way that it used to. American Home Shield has assigned for another company to come out and look at it again to see what the issue is now.

This warranty is super beneficial because if I do not have the funds to pay for the fix all out of pocket, I just pay my co-pay. I don't have to worry about the big bills.

There was a water leak and the plumber from Patriot came out. He was very polite and efficient. It was determined that there's a little pump in the HVAC system that wasn't pumping and he said he needed an HVAC man to come out. I called American Home Shield and told them what the plumber said I need an HVAC man. I waited a few days and then, I was told that an HVAC man is coming out Monday, between 10:00 and 2:00. I feel like they’re taking care of my problems.
I also had a water leak in November and it was really intense. My kitchen was completely out of commission for days. But everything was taken care of. I’ve been very happy with American Home Shield, although I had difficulty understanding the woman that I spoke to in the beginning. It was clear that English was a second language for her. But I made her repeat many things, which sometimes people might get tired of, and she was very polite.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.

To get my water heater replaced, it took two years. There was sand built up in it and my kid was getting sand on him when he got in the shower. Our hot water was nil when we first started making claims, and we had to make claims for two years to get the whole thing replaced. They've sent someone out to fix it. The tech finally said, “I can't get the parts to fix this anymore.” So, rather quickly, they sent a buyout option but didn't explain to me that I had to go purchase it and give them the receipt.
I said, “I'm not gonna replace it right now. I'm waiting until we do our kitchen and get all the same appliances.” They said, “Well, then you have to wait.” Their explanations aren't always really good. I also had two faucets that were leaking. They sent someone out. They did the work and then the guy said, “Okay, that'll be 750.” I said, “Huh? I thought that went through AHS.” He said, “They're not covering it.” I said, “I wasn't told this.” Then yesterday, I got a letter and they weren't covering it.

With my recent claim, the first one that was assigned to could not come out till the middle of the week. I had an issue where I needed it pretty soon, because my other half was going to be recovering from surgery. When I called American Home Shield, the representative that I talked to seemed to understand and said that he would see if he could get somebody who could handle it pretty soon. Ultimately, they called me back and found somebody who could come that same day. I had a repairman come out at 2:30 in the afternoon. He identified the issue pretty quickly and took care of it. He also assessed the age of the system and said that this would keep going on and on and that I would need to upgrade it. The issue was taken care of and satisfactorily resolved.
There's a couple of times when I've had diminishing returns. I had a problem with a drain in the bathroom sink and the sink stopped draining quickly. I had a guy came out. Once he found out I was in healthcare, he started to give me the litany, like he's been off Hepatitis C and all this stuff. Well, I didn't need to know that. Then he disconnected the P-trap at the bottom and then snaked and didn’t really resolve the issue. He cut some tubing out and some piping out, and went almost to the wall. The situation is still there and I have a very slow bathroom drain. It’s a social bathroom and the people that come over ask what's wrong with my sink. I told them that it was supposed to be fixed two or three times. Another time, I had a person come out and work on my compressor for my refrigerator. He ended up damaging some of the flooring because he was kicking the snake he was using. So, he vacated that job there.
It was just a matter of getting the proper contractor assigned to the jobs. Most of the time, I've had some excellent responses. I've had learning experiences and became more acutely aware of the problems and I could invert them. But other times, I wasted my money on the trip. It was just the educational level and the communication level of these people. Nothing is perfect. I'm going to get some bad visits every now and then. But for the most part, I’m glad I have this service because I know that I'm going to get at least some resolution of my issue.
I've had other vendors call and say that I need to do this and I need to go with that. I have a gutter issue that is still in a state of disrepair and I know that American Home Shield does not do that work so I'm just gonna have to wait and see if I can get one of my neighborhood handyman to come over and give him $50. I keep nickel-and-diming on this issue where I tried to get through a reliable service that advertises nationally and worldwide and they just keep going through a litany of people who are just questionable when they come out. But those are the horror stories I deal with, which is why I stayed with American Home Shield. They're centralized, they’re focused, and they have a simple algorithm to follow. I'm having some security with them right now. I'm familiar with their website. I’m familiar how to lodge a claim. I'm just not going to change, at least at this point.

My one big thing with AHS is that everybody that they had sent out to fix my claim, hadn't fixed it. They just patched it. The guys come out and put a Band-Aid on it and it lasts for a while. But then I call AHS back. With my air conditioner, the same thing the guy did this time is the same thing he did before. It was just a different repairperson. It was $80 for the first service call last year. It was another $80 for this service call and I'm paying the premium on top of every month. But the submission of claim process is easy enough ‘cause all I'm doing is saying I need service and paying 85 bucks and they send somebody out.

My wife's experiences with American Home Shield over the time we've had them has been good, if not the best. It's just that each contract we've had with them, the prices raised, and naturally, that's a shame it can't stay the same. But the people that they contract with also raise their prices. Then at times, if we get a person with a heavy accent, it's hard to understand. But as far as making a claim with them, they're pretty upfront. We recently had a kitchen faucet that needed to be replaced. It was an older one and it was leaking in the wrong spot. We only wanted Rush Plumbing to touch the plumbing in this house. It just takes American Home Shield a couple of hours or a day or two to get someone assigned to the account. And then, I get a text message that I have to call and make an appointment. Sometimes, I get a call, a message that they've scheduled somebody, and sometimes, I have to call. I'd like for the people to call me because while I was calling the contractor that came out, it was doing a message that the person wasn't available a couple of times. There was no way to leave a message. Recently, the tech came right in, looked over the water cooler, figured out what the problem was, and fixed it. He was in and out in less than half an hour. AHS can be considered affordable. Because sometimes, when I have to pay the 75, I'm not actually sure how much something would have been if I did it myself. But the 75 saves me money if it's something more expensive, or it overcharges. Because I wouldn't know if I checked it myself.

You can get an appointment.” The tech showed up on time. He was polite, had a mask and all that stuff in which we did not require. He was very, very professional, and very quick. We had a bunch of kids running around and he was aware of them. He fixed the microwave in a very short time. It’s working fantastic.
I have another claim for the water heater and it hadn't been quite as snappy as with the microwave claim. The water heater is leaking water out the bottom. There was also a time when my refrigerator ice maker quit. American Home Shield changed the motor on the old unit, which was fine. They did what they said they would do so I was happy with that part. When our dishwasher was leaking on the floor, the contractor that American Home Shield hired never came out. The contractor called me and said they couldn't come out because they didn't have the part and that they were gonna have to order it. This was a couple of weeks later after we had already planned for them to come out. They said the part would take a couple of weeks. I told them that the dishwasher has stopped leaking. So they said, "Okay. Well, we're gonna leave this ticket open. And if it starts leaking again, when the part comes in, we'll come out and put it in." But I don't know how they knew what part because they never came out in the first place.
After the call with the contractor, I called American Home Shield and told them what happened and they said, "Oh, no. That ticket's closed." They've already paid those people the $100. I told American Home Shield that the contractor never came out and the dishwasher kind of resolved itself. American Home Shield said they would call the contractor and then they would call me back.
The contractor told American Home Shield that they had come out and fixed it. So I got American Home Shield on the phone and the contractor on the other phone. I put the phones together and told the person from the contractor, "American Home Shield thinks you came out and you did not come out." She said, "Yeah. I know. We didn't come out." I said, "Well, American Home Shield can hear you. So just tell her what you told me." She told American Home Shield that they did not come out. But the little girl on American Home Shield said, "Well, I'm going to have to go send this to review," and that she would let us know later.
We called back American Home Shield again and they said that they refunded our money on February 10th, but we didn't get the refund of $100. We have four homes on American Home Shield and it happened again on another home. So that's $200 down the drain. I was real leery when we did another claim, but Maclin Plumbing was good. They were from around here. But in the year before, American Home Shield would get a company about 40 miles away in another town. I would tell American Home Shield that I know there were people around here. But they said they didn't have those people on their contracts. It was real strange and it wasn't good. Also, American Home Shield has outsourced their call center because their reps are foreigners and they don't speak very good English.

American Home Shield served me well thus far. But I was a little concerned about the price. The monthly fee went up. I know inflation happens, but I thought it was a little drastic. When I first got with them years ago, it was $50 a month. Then, it became 69. Now, it's like 83. I renewed it a few years ago. I had it for about six years, and then I let it lapse for a year, and then I got it back. I've had it for about two years now, and the price went up twice. I've used American Home Shield for my refrigerator and my water heater. In the very beginning when I bought the house, I had a garbage disposal put in. It was replaced because it came with the house. It was old and it went out. They said they couldn't fix it, so they gave me a new one of those. I've had it for about nine years, and I've only had two things that were major. So, for it to be $83 now, it's almost a hardship.
They fixed my refrigerator one time. Then it went out again. They said it was the board, which the technician that came out misdiagnosed it, so he had to come back again. Then when he came back, he said, "Yeah. This can't be fixed." So, he replaced it. That was a blessing that I didn't have to go buy a whole new refrigerator. So, it helped me. When my old water heater went out, they replaced that. I was out of $500 still on that. I had to pay it because we don't have hot water. We needed it. But they did what they had to do. I was just disappointed because I didn't think I should have been out of pocket for anything. But in light of us paying the fee every month for the insurance and then the times if something went wrong, they did get somebody out here in a reasonably fast time.

I haven’t always used American Home Shield, but when I've had to, they've come through. I've used them before for other things that have broken in my home over the years. Then recently, I noticed that in my microwave convection oven, the convection wasn't working. The microwave did, so I would just use it. I was heating something up and it just completely stopped. I went and checked, circuit breaker, plugged in and out, all this stuff. I then made a call. The contractor came out and they immediately found out what the problem was and said that they would order the part.
They ended up not being able to get the part anymore for that microwave, so the microwave needed to be replaced. They called me back and I called American Home Shield myself. I talked to the customer service and they hooked me up with a variety of microwaves. They looked at the model I had and I told them that it was from KitchenAid. They gave me many options of what I could get to fit under my shelf. I re-measured and made sure, and I was able to order the same comparable model that I had. Then, the company that came to put it in worked with me. I changed my schedule at work and they were able to bump up my appointment. They came and took the other one out, and put the new one in. It was wonderful. Overall, I love American Home Shield. They're very thorough, quick to respond, they do a really good job.

When the AC comes on and shuts off, it makes a loud clanking noise. It just clicks and clanks. But as far as cooling, it does work. It just made that noise and I didn't know what it was. So, that's why I had called for the contractor to come out and have a tech look at it. And his response was it was just wear and tear. The unit is at least 14 years old.
I noticed from the last time I had a service call several years ago that American Home Shield's price has gone up. It used to be a $50 deductible. But this time, it was 125. But the tech was very nice. I said, "Well, what I don't want to happen is that it just stops working, and then I'm without an air conditioner. That's why I called, to see, if there's something that could be fixed, let's go ahead and fix it." He said American AHS is very quick on the response. So, they wouldn't leave me hanging on a hot day and my air conditioner's broken. They would put me at the top of the list to get it fixed. That was comforting to know. I highly recommend the service.

When I tell American Home Shield what's wrong, they automatically charge me $80. Then, they choose someone to come out and make the repairs and pay everything above the $80 that I pay. I had three issues. One was the faucet in my sink was leaking. I have one of those faucets that you pull out the head and use it as a sprayer, and the hose coming out was leaking and the techs repaired that. Second, I have a powder room on my ground floor and both of the hot and cold were leaking, so they replaced the washers. The last thing they did is upstairs in my guest bathroom where I needed a toilet seat replaced. They took the bolts off and put the new toilet seat I already had on. The techs came early but called me first to make sure that it was convenient. They were efficient and they knew what they were doing. They needed one part and they got it then came right back. I was very impressed with their ability. They were also very polite.
With American Home Shield though, it seems that everyone that I speak with to make arrangements is foreign. Sometimes, it's a little hard to understand them. Also, when the microwave died, they would only reimburse me with the lowest grade microwave to replace it. What I had was a very high-grade one. I was very dissatisfied with the quality of the microwaves that they had selected so I asked for a credit. Other than that, AHS has always been very cooperative with me. I've asked them to make repairs two times a year, and it always works out well. This warranty is worth the investment. It makes it easier to have repairs done by reputable people at a more reasonable cost than it would otherwise.

With our recent AC claim with AHS, the condenser fan would stop spinning. I called it in and told them that they needed to have the fan motor for replacement when the guy came. When he came, he adjusted the cable and said, "That's the reason why the fan might be stopping 'cause it wasn't conducting electricity like it's supposed to.” I told him no. I said, "It will work, but it will stop at a certain time." He said, "Okay. If it stops, just put in a recall, and we'll come back for free." Fortunately for me before he left, the fan stopped. I called him in his car and he went back to change the condenser fan. It was a pleasant experience. The guy was very professional and very informative.
However, from my experience, I don't think AHS understands the urgency of the situation pretty much. Like, if the AC is out and it's summertime, it should be something that should be handled urgently. With our previous claim, we had to wait for four days before we got an appointment. For the first appointment, we had to call and reschedule. Then the rep pushed it further out. I said, "We don't have any schedule? Let's move. We need something closer." But the next thing they gave me was way further out than the first one they gave me.

I called R&K, and they reopened the ticket and sent him back out. It took an extra day for him to be able to get it in his schedule, but he came out and saw that one of the motors was bad. It took him several minutes to take the old fan blade off of the old motor, so that he could reuse it, because he didn't have an extra one. He stuck with it. It was a very difficult thing to get it removed, but he was diligent and got it all taken care of. That was last Friday, and it's been working great ever since. This is the first time we've ever had a home warranty and the first time we’ve ever used Home Shield. It was nice to be able to make the phone call and get the ball rolling.

On July 12, 2021, Crispy Air & Heating technician Richard ** arrived at our home at the direction of American Home Shield to evaluate, repair or replace our air conditioner. Richard advised that the connector breaker had tripped and shut down the unit probably due to a power surge. An hour later, the unit came back on. He advised that the unit was circa 20 years old and would soon need replacing and quoted us and installed Bryant unit for $7,508. Later that evening, the unit shut down once again. As the temperature approached 96 degrees in our bedroom, we decided to contact Richard to order a new unit. He advised that this was a very good decision. A Crispy Air Conditioning installation crew arrived at 3:45 pm on July 15, 2021 to install the new Bryant air conditioning unit.
Upon installation completion, Crispy team lead technician Nino asked for the $7,508 payment balance. We asked Crispy to bill AHS directly, and their team lead technician Nino advised that he could not do that. Therefore, we had to pay $7,508 out of pocket. Other than that, they have went and did a good job on all of the claims. The last one that I had with my dryer, the people that came out did not do a good job. But I called AHS back and they sent another company out. I'm waiting for them to straighten my dryer out. But everything else has been fine. Having AHS saves a lot of money if you have an issue. Because I have a lot of stuff. I got my swimming pool and a couple of central air units so it helps me to have it. I've told some friends of mine about it. And they are going to call, set up, and get a plan.

The guy from Watertight Pool & Spa came out, and he was on time. He knew exactly what the issue was. He changed the part out and was gone in 10 minutes. We have a regular pool person that does some of our maintenance and upkeep, and the only thing with American Home Shield is I wish we could use some of our own people. But it seems like it's a little bit more difficult to do that, so I always have to call and I get these people that I don't know. I always hesitate whenever I have to call since they're sending out somebody that I don't know.

I just bought a place and the inspection came back saying the AC was a bit old and needed to be serviced. American Home Shield had someone come out and look at it. The tech said it was all good, that there weren't any issues with it, and then cleared out some of the pipes a little to make the water move through the cooling portion of it to make it work a lot smoother. He explained the situation and took care of it. Thankfully, everything was resolved that time. American Home Shield has proven its value because we've used them. I have two air conditioning units. One is the major unit, and then another was a second unit that was added when we purchased the home. The major unit wasn't cooling the whole house properly, so the previous homeowner paid to put a second unit and a second thermostat into the home. Several months ago, we had OG&E out here for an annual air conditioner check. They found that the second unit was a little low on Freon, so they put some in. Everything else was okay and it was cooling fine. However, the last couple of weeks, I noticed the rotor fans on the unit outside weren't moving, and the house kept getting warmer and warmer. I'd put the thermostat down lower and lower, and it'd just keep going up higher and higher.
I called American Home Shield and said, “Hey, our major air conditioning unit is not cooling.” The tech came out, checked the electrical connections and tried to make sure that everything was good. I thought the motor was out, but it wasn't that old of a unit that that should have been the case. I asked him, “Do you think the motor went out?” He said, “I'm just checking everything to make sure before I tell you what the issue is.” He was very professional and I was very impressed with him. If I ever have any more heating and air conditioning issues, I’d just soon have him than anybody else.
I try to keep my air conditioner in the 70 range, but before the repair, it was getting up to 76 degrees. When it started cooling down at night, it stopped rising, but it never got cool in the house. The tech found two things that he needed to replace to get the fan going around and the house cooling down again. He did a great job on fixing the problem and it's been working fine since then. Now, the fan blades are rotating again and wherever I set the thermostat, it cools to that level.

American Home Shield said that they would pay for the replacement of the particular unit that we needed to get fixed. The contractor that they initially assigned said I needed a new condenser and a new coil for my AC, and those would have been close to roughly $2,000 to $3,000. On top of that, they said that I would need to pay them directly out-of-pocket fees of $4,000. It exceeded what I anticipated for the replacement of the unit. I felt that it wasn't a need for me to go that route. I obtained an outside contractor on my own and had them do an assessment. They just said that I needed to fix one part. It was not to the depth and scope that American Home Shield's contractor indicated, so I went with that direction. On the other hand, the reimbursement or the cash-out option that American Home Shield's offering is not to the full extent of what the entire job would have been.

American Home Shield does exactly what they say. When something is really expensive, you don't have to worry because the 125 is the co-pay and that's all you have to pay. The only thing is my air conditioner was broken and they had to replace it, which was fine, but I had to pay for the Freon. It shouldn't have been. I suppose it's in the contract, but you don't expect that. They tell you, "You pay 125 and if it needs replacing, we replace it." They did replace it but then they don't cover the Freon that goes in it, and that was $700 for that.

My toilet keeps running. It flushed a couple of times and it stopped flushing. It's my main bathroom, so I have to keep walking down to the basement. I had to turn the water off and called American Home Shield. I usually call, put my telephone number in, and they do it. Dave was really nice. He came on Monday evening because they called me and said they were on their way, and I guess it was a mistake. I left work at 12:30, but he got here 4:00-something.
Dave came in, looked at my toilet, told me that something was cracked or broken and need to be replaced. He was trying to explain stuff to me and I was trying to listen, but he was trying to show me this stuff. He said he ordered the part and that, "They'll get it." I said, "Well, who will get in contact with me?" He said, "American Home Shield." So, I called yesterday to see when they were going to come back. It was just when I called yesterday to find about the part, I wanted to speak with someone. And it was weird that AHS kept sending me to automated because I was like, "I want to speak to someone about a part."
Because I'm a single woman, I use AHS whenever something breaks down. Some stuff is a little annoying, like my garage broke, and the people came out here, and it's not covered. But I keep AHS. I have a couple of girls at my job that just bought homes and I told them, "Keep that. Because when you're single and things break, you really need it."

I recommended American Home Shield to my daughter when they bought their house. So, she has it too and she's had a few problems. She waited two weeks to get the guy to come out and check her fridge. Luckily, we have a second one and we let her use it. I tried to tell her that maybe AHS is busy. I personally have had a good experience with them and I have no complaints. I just don't like the computer when making a claim. I like talking to a person because it’s easier to explain and it’s more personal. My air wasn't working and the tech determined it was the thermostat, but then it wouldn't cool down fast enough. Then, the second time he came, he determined it was the dirty filters. So, I took the filters out, and then I haven't had issues since. The tech took care of the problem. He was understanding. He went to work before I was able to get here because I had to leave work. But I unlocked the door, he went in, took care of what he had to take care of, he didn't go anywhere but the AC unit because I got cameras in the house. He was very professional.
I called American Home Shield to submit my claim. The rep I dealt with took care of the problem and got me in contact with somebody to come fix my issue. They said somebody should be calling me. But then, I signed into my account online and then got the number to the actual company and I called them first thing in the morning because it was so hot. I wanted them as soon as possible. We need AC. Without the AC, the wife was mad. Once the house got cooled, the wife turned happy again.
AHS also fixed the oven for me, and the exhaust fan, and then I had the heater done now. I'm going to renew my contract when it's up in about two months. AHS is cheaper. Just pay your 500 a year. Whatever happens, somebody will come take care of your problem instead of you constantly coming out of pocket, especially buying a new house, because that was our situation. AHS took care of us.

The tech knew exactly what was wrong with it and was able to fix that right away. It was painless. It would have cost us maybe a triple to fix our garage door opener had we not gone with American Home Shield. Also, because we have had issues with our Jacuzzi and our heater for our pool, which we made a claim for and we'll need to make another one, we would have spent thousands instead of just whatever it is.
Especially as a new homebuyer, which we are, I will highly recommend AHS, because you never know. I called when I had a leak in my basement and there was some secondary damage. I needed water mitigation services and the person I talked to said AHS covers that. But when I called back, they said they don't cover that or if there's secondary damage. I got some mixed signals from two different interpretations of the agreement. On their website, when I picked from the drop down, I have a chance to say there's secondary damage but it didn't seem that that mattered. It would be nice if they would cover some secondary damage due to leaks.
But other than that, AHS covered some critical items in the house. Also, the monthly fee is a good value for filing a claim and having the $100 claim fee. If a claim is denied, I get a week to get a second opinion or get another contractor out to reevaluate the situation. I like that. I also like that when I call in and there's a wait on the phone, they would call me back.

Ament's Anytime Plumbing was great. We had two issues that we were trying to get fixed, and they were taken care of relatively quickly. I feel very confident that they not only solved the problem but also prevented probably another problem from occurring in the near future. They made sure that all the pipes were completely unclogged because it's been years of build-up somewhere in our plumbing lines in our very old house.
From an American Home Shield perspective, it was a very easy scheduling process. The contractor was contacted and selected very quickly. We were able to schedule an appointment for a couple of days out within 24 hours. It was all taken care of within a matter of days so we didn't have to wait for anything. American Home Shield was very helpful to get all of the issues solved in a very fast time frame. We had some hiccups early on, but it was on some more major projects. But a lot of it too is some of these things take a little bit of time. I've learned how to work with them as opposed to trying to call and get something scheduled at 5:00pm on a Friday, which isn't really going to work out. Part of that is my own understanding about the process and how to best utilize American Home Shield.

AHS has done everything they could to be of assistance. When you're in a new area and you are not familiar with who to call, it's nice to have someone that makes that contact for you and helps you find the appropriate type of business to assist you. I was impressed with the techs that came out to repair some damaged sheetrock. They were very good, on time, clean and very professional. They came as a result of an earlier issue we had with the house that we contacted American Home Shield for. It was a plumbing issue and I had the plumber out here. He did a really good job. It was a very difficult leak to find and he stuck with it and took him several attempts. The result was he finally found the leak and now we just have to have our house put back together.
As part of what turned out to be the water leak, we also had to get an HVAC person out here. There was a lot of lag time between the time I put the request in. I made three phone calls to American Home Shield after that. And they were so prompt on the plumber. So, when we were looking for that, after several phone calls, I finally got a call back from somebody. It got expedited up the chain somehow.
I was told that they couldn't find anybody in our area. Why didn't they tell me that week before when I originally put in the offer? Because then, I had to call around to people that I knew in the area, see who they would recommend, and get a special reference number from AHS. It was just very convoluted and inefficient. Thank goodness we weren't without air conditioning. We wanted to rule out that the HVAC systems were not causing the plumbing issue or the leak. But we went seven days before they finally gave me a reference number and gave me the authorization to call someone else. That was frustrating when I didn't think it had to be. I know things happen. We don't live in a metropolitan area, we're in a very rural area. But it is in a resort community where a lot of people have vacation homes this time of year. We just happen to live here full time.
In their defense, after I found an HVAC person and they came out and ruled out the problem, they were still very good about covering the cost, even though I really didn't expect them to, because it turned out that's not where the leak was coming from. They didn't find anything wrong, but they felt like they needed to do something to help me feel a little bit better about the experience. But all I know is I had already paid the bill for the services, just assuming that they weren't going to but they immediately cut me a check within six days. It didn't help at the time, but it was certainly not the worst client experience out there.

A bug got into one of the parts of the outside AC unit and welded a circuit shut. The outside froze because of the coolant, so the unit got hot and wouldn't cool off. AHS sent out a tech and we discussed what was going on with him. He ended up having to come back a second day because the ice on the unit had to thaw before he could do what he needed to do. And so, before he left, their office called and rescheduled for a couple of days later. Then he came out that day and fixed the unit fairly quickly.

Overall, everything seems to be good with AHS. If I call for any kind of repair, I ask questions to make sure that the items that I'm looking forward to being repaired are covered. A recent claim was for an issue that the plumber from Direct Connection Plumbing came out for. He replaced the toilet pump and he pointed out that the item that he had was defective. It was a good thing that he pointed that out and he still came out to replace that item.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.

The website was a lot better than it used to. We've been customers for a long time. My mom was a customer for a very long time and you just have to wait on the phone to get someone to come out. And that would take hours. This was much easier. My mom is older and not tech savvy, and she's able to use it as well. It would say, "Your claim has been contracted out to so and so." Sometimes I would get a text message.
My outlet in my living room and then a couple of my basements were not working. The only reason I found out was because my security system shut off. And I was like, "That's weird." So, I just called American Home Shield, scheduled it for when I came home back to Indianapolis. Richard from Willobee Electric came out and fixed it. He was early, speedy and friendly. He missed one thing, so I had to end up calling him back and asking him to come back to my house to fix it. But he turned his car right around and came back. He fixed my problem in a timely manner.
I've always recommended American Home Shield to my friends and neighbors. It's a great value for the amount of money that I'm spending and it relieves a lot of stress off of me. Because I know if something goes wrong, all I have to do is pay that fee for them to come out. And if it's broken and they can't fix it, then I get something new. And if they fix it, that's great.

American Home Shield did a good job for us for a recent claim we had. One thing to improve would be the timing of getting someone in. It was a little slow in getting workmen out to the place. This was a heating problem and my poor tenant was living by the fireplace in the living room till they could get the heat fixed. Other than that, the process went well. We renewed our home warranty as a result. It's nice having coverage for so many items in the house.

I've got two American Home Shield policies. I've got a policy in my home, and I've got a policy on my rental. And I've used them both two times. On my house, they've replaced the water heater twice. Worked out just fine. On the rental, the first time, they had to come out and do a repair on the furnace fan. And the second time, they had to come out and do a repair on the air conditioning fan.
On the rental side, there’s just confusion on the setup. So, when they came out for the furnace repair on the first time, AHS said that I should contact K&S to let them know that the ticket has been created instead of scheduled. So, I called them. And then, K&S said, “No, they've already called us. No need for you to call me.” Several months later, the air conditioner had an issue. And got the same feedback, “You'll hear back from K&S.” Then I waited. Didn’t hear anything. So, when I called K&S, they were like, “Yeah, we have to hear from you.” It was conflicting. On the initial appointment engagement, what is the right process, what does the consumer need to do, that needs to be cleared up. But both interactions with K&S have been outstanding. Service technicians were smart, knowledgeable, and experienced.
The latest appointment, the tech was hours late. I know technicians just pick up their work stream, and they go about their business. They don't know what they're gonna get involved in during the day. And he had explained that that particular week, they had staff shortage, and everybody is picking up other tickets and all these other types of things. So, I don't hold the technician accountable for that. I don't even really hold the K&S accountable for it other than nobody reached out to me to let me know that they would be late. I had to call back. The technician got out there. He was quick, knowledgeable, and diagnosed the problem. They put in a part order.
And then, on the return trip, when the part came in, the part took longer than they expected. But these are weird COVID times, and everything's delayed in production. It is what it is. But he came in, and he was on time. I had the 8:00 to 12:00 time slot, and he was there 8:30. So, he was at the front side of the appointment, which was really nice. He came in, replaced it. It worked. Everything went well.
For 60 bucks a month, having replacement coverage is why I bought the policy. It's an attractive replacement coverage product. AHS has the market beat on replacement coverage. If your roof gets damaged by a storm, your insurance takes care of it. Any of your hardship property, cars, anything, it takes care of it. You don't have insurance on your systems, and if your air conditioner, heater and furnace, or you have piping down to the road, if any of these stuff breaks, those are car-level cost repairs. These are the things that when these things break, you're putting payment plans on them because they are significantly expensive. So, I invested in this service because I am risk adverse, and I don't want a $20,000 repair.

I do like American Home Shield overall. I had a different home warranty company before and they weren't as good as American Home Shield. However, once a claim is submitted, American Home Shield could come back to a customer or shoot an email to let them know if a claim is not covered and ask if the customer wants to go through with sending the contractor. They make you enter your payment information for the 125 fee for a contractor to come out. I did that and it turns out that this is part of the garage door itself. It's not part of the garage door opener. Therefore, it was a waste of $125. Had I known that it was not covered, then I could have contacted a garage door company on my own and put that 125 towards the 300 or so that I had to pay. But the garage door company was excellent. They fixed the tensioner spring on my garage door.

I got a drainage issue. I'm not sure if it's fixed or not. The condensation dripping into the pan wasn't draining properly through the drain path, and it built up an amount of condensation in the bottom of wherever that is at. So, there's still a significant amount of water in there that got to get pulled out, which I'm going to do tonight. I borrowed a wet dry vac from the neighbor. If it doesn't fix it, then I'll call AHS back and say, "Hey, it didn't fix it. We need to get somebody to come back and figure out why this drain pan is not draining correctly." But the technician that came out was really cool. He's really professional and a good guy.
Having the home warranty doesn't cost me $4,000 to get a $4,000 repair done to my air conditioner. American Home Shield has always been awesome. It took a little bit longer this time to get somebody to come out, but it's the time of year where it's a high demand for HVACs to come and work on houses. So, I expected a wait. It was really cool. I've had American Home Shield for 15 years. They have been great. When I've needed them, they have been available. I've used them for my AC, washer dryer, dishwasher, and refrigerator. When I was deployed, my wife was able to use it when I was gone. I always call it Johnny-on-the-spot and I’m getting things done. Had a capacitor went out. $75 came out of my account, guy came out, replaced the capacitor, checked the Freon in the AC. We were done and he was gone. It was that quick.
The electrical thing fell within my warranty, so I used the warranty to get the electrical fixed after the home inspection, because I didn't know there was an issue with the power panel. It was very quick. I called it in on a Friday. Of course, it was a weekend. They were there on a Monday. That was all good, but I needed a copy of the invoice and how much it costed to give to the people who were buying my home to show, “Yes, we fixed it.”
The only thing I didn’t like is when I'm talking to somebody, it's always somebody with bad broken English. When I call somebody, I want to talk to somebody that I can understand and they understand me. That’s what I would suggest to improve. Also, I've had to pay a bit out of pocket, like when I replaced the dishwasher or the washer. But it was nothing for me to go, “Why the hell do I have a warranty” type thing. I'm getting ready to close on a house and sell the one I'm currently in, and I'm planning on carrying AHS over to the new house.

The first time that we used American Home Shield wasn't very good. We had a blockage in the sewer lines under the house. When we had the plumber come out, he evidently did more damage to our system than good. We had to have another plumber come out after that 'cause the warranty folks said that they weren't responsible for anything further. We had to come out of pocket which was close to $3,000. But this most recent time was okay. Southern Comfort was great. We have two houses on the lot. The AC in the rear house had gone out. It turned out being a huge beetle that had gotten stuck behind a contactor. They were able to find that, remove it and get everything restored. They came out the next day which is fantastic for an HVAC company.

Almost a year ago, our air conditioning went out. On Time Plumbing & Heating took three days to get out then they had to order a part. The overall time for this was seven or eight days of no air conditioning and temperatures that were hotter than what was this year. Now, this recent occurrence with the AC went pretty well because I called On Time Plumbing & Heating on Sunday night and they were out on Tuesday morning.
However, I'm thinking about dropping American Home Shield because I'm not getting immediate action. Taking three days for the providers to get out is part of the contract that AHS says. However, they may not be able to get there for those three days. If I had no home insurance, I would have called multiple places until I got one that could get out immediately or no later than the next day. I had a basement flood, and rather than dink around with AHS, I called the plumber immediately in order to get the sump pump fixed. AHS wouldn't cover any of that because I didn't go through them and waste another half an hour to an hour getting them to call somebody in an emergency condition. I would have had a foot of water if I would have waited on them.

However, when I had my garbage disposal replaced, I paid 100 bucks to have them come out. Then they were going to put in the cheapest garbage disposal, but I wanted to upgrade. They charged me $175 to upgrade to the unit that I already had there.
The part that I found frustrating was the part that they upgraded to, I found at Home Depot for 100 bucks. So they charged me more than the unit cost was. I found it surprising, I would have thought I would have gotten a discount from what they were going to put in versus what I had there to begin with. I was a little disappointed with how much they charged for the upgrade. Because it was beyond what I would have paid if I got it myself. But it was great having the coverage of AHS. I'm a little iffy on the smaller items, like the dishwashers, but for large appliances, it's well worth it, especially for the AC because they're very expensive to replace.

The icemaker in the refrigerator was not working. I followed the instructions on the AHS website to submit a claim. They told me that someone from Sears will come out and that it was going to take at least two weeks. The tech that was sent out was very professional and pleasant. The diagnosis was that the motor in the icemaker burned out and it had to be replaced. So he replaced it. He did a good job. The icemaker is functioning as it should. I've only used AHS twice in the several years that I had them, and both times, the issue was addressed and corrected and it's fine.

I had a stoppage in my dishwasher, my bathtub and my kitchen sink, and I had a broken garbage disposal. I submitted a claim online with AHS. Then, a few hours later, I got a call. They had a gentleman come over who was a plumber and he solved the problem in 15 minutes and went away. Overall, it was pretty good. The refrigerator decided to not work at some point. They had another guy come from a different plumbing agency that came. He just drilled a little hole in the back of the freezer and fixed everything and went away. Then, the other one was my toilet. Another guy showed up, fixed it and left. I would recommend AHS.

I'm really upset about American Home Shield. They think the service is included then I'm being charged by the plumber that comes then they tell me that I have to pay that amount. It's outlandish. American Home Shield could help me with big item products. I'm paying a lot of money to the plumbers because American Home Shield says it's not included. I ended up paying for the freon for the air conditioning unit which is fine but they charged me twice. I told them I had an air conditioner problem. When the guy came, he said, "It's two different services because you have two different units." I said, "But you're here. Why would I have to pay twice the $100." But that's American Home Shield's policy. I feel like I'm being ripped off by them. I'm extremely disappointed.
When I asked to speak to the manager, the lady who I was speaking with at American Home Shield said the manager was in a meeting. It's a standard answer that they're told to give on a regular basis. A water heater guy also came and he was gonna charge me $650. Then he said, "We don't need to charge you for this part, so let's make it 570." I called American Home Shield and told them that was not right. They get going on with their standard answers of too bad, they're not going to do anything about it. I would like a reimbursement for the $570 out of my pocket that they were supposed to cover.

I'm a property manager so I call more often than your average homeowner or policyholder because I have multiple properties and I have American Home Shield on several of them. I don't recommend them to my property owners. I've had a bad experience with the call experience and the vendors several times. I've had one particular vendor that they continue to use and time and time again, there are issues with their services and work done.
AHS could improve on the outsourcing of the call centers. That is sometimes frustrating because there's a little bit of a language barrier. I've noticed they've started to implement some scripts but it's still not that great. They should have their call centers here in the US. Also, when people give feedback on the vendors that are used, they should take that into consideration when doing future business with those vendors. I always tell my owners that customer service is probably the most important when it comes to considering a home warranty. Because the warranty is the warranty. But it's the ease of getting the service and things handled properly that matter. Time and time again, if they have AHS, they should switch or avoid it.

I didn't have a problem with putting in the work order for the AC and American Home Shield getting somebody out to the property within 24 hours. The technician called me 30 minutes before he came out. He gave me enough time. He also knew what he was doing. He went right in there, replaced the compressor and kind of explained to my dad the difference between the freon. I was gonna get R407C but I ended up switching back to R22 because it cools the house a little bit better. I had American Home Shield a long time ago when I first bought the house and that time, it was difficult getting the AC fixed. But this time, it was very easy. They cover only $10 for the freon so that was a little pricey but I was okay with that because everything else was covered. We have another house in Pensacola and I'm thinking about adding that house and our house here in Texas onto my plan.

We had some bolts that came loose on the side of the toilet where the toilet was almost spinning. The techs fixed that and everything got taken care of. Whenever something goes wrong, I can count on using my home warranty. It helps take away the major cost. One of the things that I found to be important was that the warranty also covered the hot water heater.
My parents are elderly, and they’re on a fixed income, so for them, it’s very helpful to know that they don’t have to take the full blow of the cost out of pocket. I told my dad that AHS's warranty covers the hot water heater too. So we dropped his other warranty so we would have AHS. My father had a leak in their piping that drains the water out which caused damage to the flooring in their cabinet. He reported that the techs were wonderful guys.

For my recent claim with AHS, the AC work seems fine. The rep came and it was a problem with the fan blade. I directed them what the problem was and they were able to do the mechanics to fix it. But we have other bigger problems with AHS. I had to call in for an oven. It's now over five weeks, I don't have an oven working because, first, they made us do a teleconference with the service provider who said, "Yes, it's the coil that's broken. We're going to order that for you. It will be in a couple of days." Took 10 days to get it in, then they get scheduled.
Now, it's two weeks after our initial problem and they're supposed to come to fix it. The technician got on site and said, "The coil's fine, it's the thermostat. We got to order a new thermostat for you." That was three weeks ago. Then, my wife reached out to them. They said, "The thermostat is no longer available. So, you can wait 12 to 14 weeks for us to repair or we'll give you $250." Neither of those things got me an oven in my home in the appropriate time covered. So, they wanted me to go four and a half months without a working oven.
It also takes a long time to get AHS on the phone and their representatives are not helpful enough because they're not given the power to be. They're certainly bilking the customers. They want to take my premium, they want to charge me $80 every time somebody gets sent out, but they don't want to stand up and fix the actual problem when it cost them anything. But that's what I'm paying for. I pay them in advance to have coverage and they're not providing that coverage. They have to fix my oven, and if it's gonna take them a year, that's not an option. They need to replace it with a like or better model.
On another issue, I had a leak coming out of my sink and toilet. Flooded my first floor. Some of it even went to the second floor. I have a video of it leaking. A plumber came out and said, "I can't replicate it. Not my problem." I said, "There's got to be a clog somewhere down the pipe or there's a leak." He said, "We can't get access." I said, "It's right behind the wall." He said, "Not our job," and walked out. AHS has inferior providers of services. Their contracted companies either don't know or are not interested in doing the job and fixing it. I'm going to be shopping around for an alternative coverage provider. AHS doesn't provide the services they promise and they certainly don't do it with any reasonable time frame.

I had to use American Home Shield last year for the dishwasher. Active Appliances came out and fixed it. Ironically, it was the exact same issue that happened again this year. I scheduled the appointment. They called and set up a video conference call, just walked through it first. They came back out and corrected it. I also had to use AHS for the stove and they fixed it as well.
However, my recent claim with the air conditioner has been a total nightmare. It started growling and then making a noise. The gentleman that came out from the company was curt and did not explain things very well. He said he fixed the part but I might have to have the air conditioner serviced at some point because it was dusty. I asked how much they charge for service. He said that it's usually $400 per unit, but since they're doing both of the units, it will be $700. He asked if I wanted to make an appointment. I said I need to call around and find out if that's the best bet because Home Shield doesn’t cover it and I wanna make sure that I'm getting a fair price. He said that I should call or text them if anything happens and he'd come back out then he left.
That night, the same problem started happening again. I called the company back. They called back and said that I would have to pay $700 to have it cleaned because that was why it was not working. I was not buying that because I called around and it’s 125 per unit on average for a company to do service. I told them that I'm not okay with it, it's exorbitantly high for what the process is, and that I'm being taken advantage of. Then they said that they would send out a supervisor.
The supervisor gentleman came out and explained things. He pulled out the blower wheel from the air conditioner and said that somebody put screws in, so that was what throwing everything out of balance. He showed me what he was talking about. He said he took out the motor and then it stopped working. However, he didn't have the parts. But he talked to his supervisor and that supervisor said to go ahead and they'd do both parts and they would be covered. He just had to order them. Then, I got an email from Home Shield saying that my claim is being denied and it's not gonna be covered. I put in three to five calls to them and every time I called, I got a slightly different story. I've asked for a supervisor to call back over the past week and I’ve yet to receive that call. My oldest daughter is epileptic and has to have air conditioning. If she gets hot, she seizures, so this is a very sensitive and frustrating subject for me.
What makes me super uneasy is the first guy that came out saying that it's the part that he replaced and I need to have it cleaned. Then he didn't catch in his first visit what the second gentleman found. I never knew if he put the screws in there. He was at my house for 45 minutes and he was in the attic doing whatever he did. He did not come down to explain and show me the parts like the second gentleman did. I don't have any trust or faith in that company because they're dishonest. Then when the supervisor came out again yesterday, he said that it was dusty in the attic and that my unit outside looked good. So, it just backed up the fact that the $700 claim that they were making was not valid, it felt like extortion, and getting Home Shield to be there had been ridiculous.
Then I renewed the warranty in February and paid for it but when I went to log in to my account, it was telling me that it was expired and that I didn't have an active plan. I called and spoke to a very nice girl. I eventually just fished around on the website and I was able to figure it out. Then she asked me to show her that so she could help customers. Not a problem. But just the knowledge level of the staff at Home Shield is subpar.

Usually, I would call for the service on any appliances and most of the time I get the technician, for the air conditioner, sometimes the next day or two days the most. For the other appliances such as garbage disposal, which I don't have too many, maybe one or two days. This one took almost four months. I wasn't happy because this was a request that I did on April 12th. American Home Shield solved the problem last week. Fortunately, they authorized me to get a dishwasher, which I already did. It was a brand new one. And they gave me Olis. But how would you feel that you requested service for a dishwasher and it took four months to get it fixed?
The issue was finished. But the first request was in April 12th. Unfortunately, that wasn't in my house. It was in another house. So the tenant was in my back almost every single day. Sometimes they would say, "Well, we're going to get a new one and that's your problem." Or, "We're going to get it fixed from somebody else and that's your problem." Or, "We don't pay you the rent." Or, "We're going to take the money away from the rent." All those things that you get from the tenants.

You just call them, pay your $75 fee, and then you never pay another thing for that call. When I had just moved in, the dishwasher started to flood my brand new kitchen and the contractor was out and fixed it incredibly quickly. I would recommend keeping American Home Shield. There's a certain peace of mind knowing that I can call somebody that I trust. I don't have to start calling people. I just call American Home Shield and if they can't fix it, they replace it. American Home Shield's monthly rate was better. When I call, they always have a third party come out and handle what is needed to be done. And they have been good to service and everything has been fine. The contractor is coming out again tomorrow to add a float switch to the air conditioning system that is not there. But when I call to put in a claim, I don't like how they automatically say, "We'll charge your credit card,” before even adding on the service to be done. So I always hang up and call back to talk to someone first before I had them take my funds out of my account.
We've also had electrical and a plumbing work done. They were resolved, except we're having a situation with the plumbing part that was done last year. Our bathroom sink, the stopper that holds the water in the sink, two of them are messed up again. My sump pump stopped working and it needed to be checked. I called American Home Shield and they sent the plumbers who did a good job. I didn't have a problem this time but I had a problem the first time I used American Home Shield. It was for a garage door. The garage door company called me and set up a time with me on Sunday between 12:00 and 4:00. However, they called me at 10:00 in the morning and said they were 15 minutes away. I said, "I'm not there. You all told me between 12:00 and 4:00."
I came home and waited. Then I called and asked what was going on. They told me they rescheduled the appointment. I asked why would they do that and the guy said said, "The driver was in the area at 10:00. We weren't able to get a driver back out there." At that point, I called American Home Shield and told them that was not good business. I asked them to send a new company out. I told them I didn't want to deal with that company. The gentleman that I spoke with was very nonchalant and dismissive of what I was saying.
The person that I spoke with at American Home Shield told me that there was no one else and that she would get in touch with that company. To end it all, when I spoke with someone that next day, they said American Home Shield doesn't cover fixing springs in the track. I was very disappointed because after all that, I still had to call a separate company out to come and fix the problem. They could have told me from the beginning they didn't cover it. If they told me then, then I wouldn't have wasted a week sitting there, waiting for a new job to show up. American Home Shield also took the $100 service fee and I'm still waiting on that.
The second experience was better and it made me feel a little more comfortable with calling for help because these guys came out between the times that they said they would, were very professional and didn't have any side talk. They saw what the problem was and told me, "Your sump pump's bad. It's old and needs to be replaced." They went out to the truck, got it, and within 30 minutes, they were gone and the problem was fixed.

He assessed the problem, handled it, and my unit started working again. AHS has been easy to work with, and they've gotten service people to respond quickly. Getting people to come out to assess your issue and not having to pay a lot for each service call is a benefit.

I had a repair for my refrigerator and the first contractor was Sears, but I canceled that because they did not have an adequate turnaround time to come out. Then AHS had someone else come out and resolved the problem. I also had an issue with my AC unit and Piedmont Mechanical was sent. It was good. I just had one thing that I didn't touch back basis with them. There was still a little bit of water in my drain pan, and they were supposed to have drained that. They did not do that when they came back out to service it. Nonetheless, American Home Shield's service has been okay. They've come out a couple of times and things have been taken care of in a relatively quick turnaround time.

My third policy with American Home Shield was getting ready to expire on June 4th so I called and renewed my home warranty. 623 bucks was charged on my credit card and I paid for the whole year at a time. About June 2nd, I thought that since we are going to put our house up for sale, I was going to upgrade the warranty to one that is a little bit better because we’ll use that as a selling tool for our house. I called American Home Shield and asked what kind of deal they could give me on the upgraded one I had. It was 150 bucks more and I was fine with that. It covered a lot more stuff. They said they were just going to charge my credit card the difference, which was perfect.
I thought everything was all good. There were a couple of things that happened on the house and I was thought, “I'm gonna get this taken care of. We got the warranty.” I paid for two of those. The first service we had was for our refrigerator and that went as smooth as silk. The second one was for our Whirlpool tub. The people that are doing the part for the tub had to reschedule twice because they had a family emergency. I was cool with that. A guy came and was super professional. He was here a few minutes and he took a picture of the part. It's been over a week and we just want to know if the parts are there or not. The people that ordered the parts are offsite. We're moving an hour way and it's gonna be very inconvenient to come back to the house. We really need to get that tub fixed before we move.
I also keep getting a bill for $90.99 and I've gotten called by American Home Shield. I spoke with a very nice lady who said it was gonna get taken care of once things get caught up. Their system would not allow them to just add the extra 150 bucks. They had to refund the other and do this. For a while, they had both amounts. I just noticed that my credit card statement yesterday finally showed up that on July 2nd, it charged the full amount of the 714. On July 7th, they had credited my card for the first amount so I should be all up to snuff.
This had been causing me anxiety. I called four times the last week trying to get this settled. I sold the house and when I give the new people the warranty, I don't want them to have any issues. I don't want these people to get a bill for the house from American Home Shield and keep thinking we owe money. I paid for the whole thing back in May and I don't owe any money.
I keep calling American Home Shield and I keep getting people that do not speak very good English. The issue never gets resolved. But the lady I spoke with said that the issue should straighten out and to give them a call back on Thursday. She was escalating something up and she said it should show up on Thursday. I want to get a new package with American Home Shield for my new house because we close on Friday, but I'm having a hard time right now. I want to resolve the issue with the old house first. I'm gonna give it till the end of the week and see if it gets resolved.
Before this issue happened, I was super happy with American Home Shield. All in all, we love them. With the issue with my account, it was probably just a computer glitch. When I got the first warranty then cancelled it and upgraded, somebody just didn't get what was happening. That aside, American Home Shield is a good company. I've pretty much recommended it to everybody in here and all my neighbors have it. I'm gonna take that into effect when I get a price on my new house. Maybe they'll cut me a good deal.
Tracy,
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

I had a faucet issue that the guy from Messina Plumbing, Joe, fixed brilliantly and he explained to me what was wrong with it. He is a reputable, very conscientious, and very trustworthy person and he's very skilled. He's been here before. I got his card because when we need plumbing work, we're just gonna call him directly. But the people American Home Shield sent out to fix the air conditioner sent a kid who doesn't know what he's doing. He put a hard start on the compressor to force it to start and that made it lock up. I woke up at 11:30 at night hot. And AHS was gonna send them back out. When somebody can't figure it out the first time and they're supposed to be a pro in that area, they're not gonna fix it by coming out a second time. If they knew what they were doing, they would have fixed it the first time. AHS needs to vet the contractors that they send out.
We don't want American Home Shield. It's a bad deal and it costs more money. We tried to cancel this policy but we can never get anybody to answer the phone. They make it impossible to cancel. If that charge shows up again, we will challenge it on the Citi card. We will tell them we've done everything we can to let AHS know we don't want their service because of the poor service and the poor value.

When submitting a claim online with AHS, the options weren't all that great. There wasn't a thing for clogged toilets, so I had it under "other". But it's user-friendly. We've had chronic clogging so the toilet would overflow. When you plunge it, you think it would be fine, but then it comes back out. The guy came out and snaked through the toilets and got them cleared up. Then with the third toilet in the master bedroom, he noticed that while he was checking everything over, the tank is cracked. He wasn't sure if that would be covered, but he was going to submit a claim to see if it would be covered. AHS has a decent deal. You pay the fee. They come out and fix it. If it doesn't stay fixed, you can call somebody back out. They try again for free. If they can't fix it, they're supposed to replace stuff.

The latest claim we had and American Home Shield has completed was plumbing. The claims process was fairly easy. I requested someone online. We had a really great guy come out. His name was Joe, and he came to fix three of our clogged faucets. He was able to fix everything. He was very pleasant. As soon as he got to the door, he showed us his vaccination card and came on in. He had put a little foot covering on, so he wasn't bringing any dirt or anything into the house, and it was very pleasant.
We've had other repairs through American Home Shield and we're waiting for reimbursement of the oven. The oven just stopped working completely. They provided options to pick something, and I didn't see anything that I liked, so I purchased one. So, I'm just waiting to be reimbursed for that. Having American Home Shield lowers the cost as opposed to me trying to hire someone I find on Yelp. It's certainly reassuring to have someone who's been vetted through American Home Shield, making sure that the contractor that comes out will do the work correctly and if there is a problem, they will come back out and repair it until it's fixed or until they feel we need to get another one. That was what happened with the oven. They sent several people and no one was able to figure it out. So, we had to go on and just replace it.
Every time we've had a claim, it's worked out to the best of both parties. The service has been great and the representatives that I speak to on the phone when I have to call and speak to a live person have always been very nice and helpful. As a matter of fact, I had a gal yesterday because I had to call for a light switch. The gal was Carol, and she was very good and she helped with the electrical problem.

The contractor has been out there and replaced the parts twice. He said he replaced the same part, but it blew out again. He again put the same part back in there. So, I'm waiting to see if that one hangs on. I also had my air conditioner unit worked on. It has been three weeks ago. It's going good. The service has gotten better. There used to be a long wait. If something would go out in the summer, I would have to wait several days before somebody could come. But this last time, the contractor came the same day that I called. Also, they all seem friendly and try to do their best. I appreciate that.

AHS sent out a tech to check an air conditioning unit in our rented property. When he got there, he said it needed Freon and charged it. But it was not a thorough job and the tenant doesn't want him to come back to the house. After talking to another air conditioning company, they said that he just charged it and that was not how you do that. They said that the condenser needed to be cleaned before he could even diagnose it. But the diagnosis was made as the first tech walked into the house. So, the tenant was uncomfortable with him. They also said that when a tech gets the unit, he owns the unit until it's fixed.
The price that the tech quoted to recharge the unit was also very high. He wanted to put four pounds in the unit and he wanted 400 dollars. I’m in California, so I called out here, and out here, it's $30 cheaper than what he told me was going to be per pound. So something didn't seem right. The warranty company needs to send somebody back out because the problem is not fixed and the tenant has been communicating with them about this. Other than that incident, we never had any issues with AHS before.

When the air conditioner was not working, I went and made a phone call to American Home Shield. I was told my appointment had been scheduled with Atlanta Air and I called them to let them know. The last time my air conditioner messed up when I first moved in, they were super helpful and unreasonably nice. They fixed one thing then they realized there was something else and they fixed it too. Then they realized there was something else again and they also fixed it. There were six things wrong with it. It was overcharged and the motor for the fan had to be replaced.
I had to call Atlanta Air a little over a month later. The unit was not working again. They said they'd get somebody out as soon as they got free time. They put me in between two other appointments and got it done within two minutes. When they got here, there was a burnt-up wire that they had to replace on the outside unit. American Home Shield has been a 100% blessing. They saved me hundreds after I just spent thousands moving. If I hadn't have had them, those repairs and parts alone would have been a couple of hundred dollars plus time and labor each time they had to come out here.

AHS has been really great and they've been responsive. We've only been in the house for less than six months and we didn't expect to have this going on with the house but with them, we would call and they would send somebody and let us know what's going on. The first thing we had an issue with was our furnace and it was a couple of days after moving into the house. It was leaking a bucket every couple of hours and they realized that the previous owner didn't have the pipes set up properly on the furnace to drip. They fixed that.
But I didn't appreciate having to call every day to get the stove replaced. The Sears tech said it was best to just replace our Frigidaire stove and he said that AHS will be in contact with us. But no one did so I called AHS and stated what the tech told us. AHS said they can order the appliance or I could do a cash-in-lieu. After two and a half weeks of calling back and forth with the replacement line, I said I would do the cash-in-lieu. I ordered the stove and I sent a receipt. They're going to send us back the money for the stove up to $938.40. Also, we are waiting for someone to do something with the attic fan and I haven't heard anything back about that.

American Home Shield is a little expensive but because I have had some sort of response and I know how it works now, there's no reason for me to change. I've been with them for about 10 years. The guy who came to do the dryer was a great representative. I got good service this time. He worked on that dryer until he made sure it was right.
The guy that worked on my AC was super. He was here a very short period of time. He was very professional and personable. He shared with me what the problem was. He said, “We've taken care of it. Those things go bad every now and then.” He did what he needed to do. He diagnosed and then he was very careful to make sure he was clean. Because sometimes the physical body of the technicians is not clean. When it takes me a long time to get your body odor out of my house, then it’s problematic. But all of the service folk that is with American Home Shield are not necessarily skilled.
When I called in a claim about a light in my closet, the technician came out and he kind of looked at it and said I needed something. But he didn't touch it. I asked him how did he know that? He said, “Well, the switch is working.” I didn't understand what was wrong. I had a friend of mine take a look and he told me what the issue was. The light has been up there for 14 years and he said it's not unusual after 10 to 12 years for those lights to go bad. They’re not meant to last forever. So the issue was very simple. But if the technician had taken the time to look, he would have been able to fix it right then.
American home shield called the same contractor back. I told the contractor, “Don’t send me back a young guy who is not interested in trying to do a real diagnosis. Send me someone with some experience. If you can't do that, let me know and I'll call American Home Shield again.” The contractor did send me the supervisor, but he was so nasty when he got here. He said, “Now you got it done. So maybe that'll satisfy you. The guy came. He did what he was supposed to.” I said, “No, he didn’t, or else you wouldn’t be here. And you didn't do what he did.”
I have a well and when I had a major issue with my water pump, I didn't have anybody that could fix it. I can't live in a house without water and that’s my only source. So American Home Shield gave me permission to find an outside contractor of my choice. So I did. They sent me a number and I used that number. They sent me the refund form. I kept asking American Home Shield about my refund. They said they didn't get my claim and document. But I uploaded and sent them on the computer twice. I also mailed them twice. On the form, it has a question, “Where do you want it sent?”, and I put in the address of my house.
My mother has been deceased since September 2019. Before she died, she also had a home warranty but she didn't have an email of her own so my email address was there but she paid her contract. We each had our own contract. It just so happened we haven't sold her house and I go over there periodically. After six weeks, I found a $1,500 check in her mailbox. So I called American Home Shield and said, “I don't understand. First of all, why did I fill out the form? Her name, her numbers that you sent to me.” The response I got was, “We have several different departments doing several different things. And so obviously, there's been some confusion as to who should be sending what, where, and they have not taken your mother out and they still link you to your mother.” Somebody could have very easily taken that check, then we would have to go through a whole another situation.
Sadie,
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved. We are here for you if you need us in the future. Take Care.

We initially called American Home Shield on Saturday. We had a leak and couldn't get the water to stop, so we had to shut our water down. AHS said, "We'll put this in as an expedited service request. Someone will be out there today." It didn't happen. So, we went without water for 15 hours. I called the next morning right away. That rep told me, "Oh, we're so sorry. It wasn't put in as an emergency request, but we'll do it today." That time, it was Sunday and I had already looked up Sigmond Plumbing and it said they're closed on Sundays and it said nothing on their website about coming out after hours. I was like, "They're not even gonna come. Do they work after hours?" The rep said, Yes, yes. We sent them the email and somebody monitors it and someone will be in touch with you in four hours." Four hours came and went. So, we had to go and fix it ourselves or we would've went for two days with no water.
Then the techs came in on Monday and they said, "Oh, we can't touch it because you fixed it." We had to do that because we had no water. I told AHS I wanted them to refund my $100 coverage because I feel like everything got dropped. At first, they tried to say, "Well, they came out to your house." I said, "You guys are the ones that dropped the ball in the first place. It was okay for you guys that I would go without water for two days. No, that's not okay. And so, I have no choice but to fix it."
Other than that, AHS has always been really good. I had another situation with a contractor. They couldn't get my toilet fixed. Sigmond Plumbing ended up coming out because the other plumbing company couldn't fix it. It just kept leaking. I got on the phone and American Home Shield was arguing with me like, "No, we have to stick with the initial contractor." I said, "No. My toilet is leaking. Leaking so much that it's budding up to my baseboard. So if you want to cover that as well, let's put in another claim." The rep said, "Oh, no, no, ma'am. Let me look into it." She got back and said, "Okay, we'll send out another contractor."

For the dishwasher, the gentleman that came out was wonderful. He was on time and stayed on task. When he came back, he explained what happened, showed me how it would not happen again because there was a fire inside the dishwasher that we were unaware of. So, really grateful that he was able to put my mind at ease and showed me how that wouldn't happen again based on his repairs. It has been great because anytime something looks like it would start to go wrong, which we have always referred to our house as the place appliances go to die, we now at least know we have some back-up to this instead of just constantly replacing things. We're grateful to have the back-up now.

We had an air conditioner issue. We had done some minor things before the tech came, like flush the condensation line and change the air filters. If I set my thermostat to 74, the temperature would get down to 74 for a little while but the unit would never hold it. It just seemed like it would never really cool properly. The tech said he saw an oil leak on the outside unit but unfortunately, everything was still working and he couldn't replace anything that's not broken.
The tech gave some tips. He said, “If you see your temperature’s rising instead of going down, go outside and check your outside unit. If it's not turning, the fan’s not going and you can't audibly hear it working, you have a failure.” I asked him if I had done anything wrong and he said, "No". He checked my ducts the best he could and everything was clean.
32 days later, we get up on Thursday morning and I raised my thermostat to 74. At about 11 o'clock, I was working in one of the bedrooms where it tends to be warmer than other parts of the house. I went and checked the thermostat, and the thermostat was reading 75. I kept watching it, and it just kept getting hotter and hotter. So about 3:00, I went and looked outside and the unit was not turning. So I went up in the attic to check the upstairs unit, and it was humming. I could hear it and there was a green light on it. The inside is working, but outside it’s not. There’s air coming out of my vent, but it’s warm air. I put the request in online to have a technician out and by Thursday night, I had an email. It was an after-hours email that said that they had an appointment for me on a Monday. The tech came on a Friday, replaced the fan motor, and said everything was working. It took about 24 hours for it to get down to normal temperature but it's working fine now. Everything that I've had with American Home Shield has been positive. I like having the confidence that if major repairs are needed that I'll have some coverage with American Home Shield. But there are a lot of things that are not covered by American Home Shield, like with any insurance. I had a plumbing issue that they helped me with, but the plumber that came out told me that I needed to buy the parts myself because the parts that American Home Shield would provide were not very good quality.
I had a plumbing issue back in March. The other issue I had back in that original plumbing issue that I submitted to American Home Shield was that the plumber had to replace a valve in my upstairs shower. But to replace the valve, I had to pay someone separately to remove the tile around the valve, because the plumber told me that would not be covered by American Home Shield. I had to go out and find a separate contractor to come in and cut an opening, remove the tile, and then once the work was done, have that separate contractor come out and pay them separately to close that up and put the replacement tile on. It was a lot more effort on my part. It would have been a lot easier if all that had been covered under one activity.
American Home Shield has done a very good job on a couple of times I've submitted a request. They've done a very good job of assigning contractors quickly. Even though the contractors are all busy, they've worked me in fairly quickly. So that tells me that American Home Shield has a pretty good standing with the local contractors to be able to get priority with them. I feel good knowing that if I do have a problem with a major appliance that I'll be able to get some support from American Home Shield. So for an older home with older major appliances, American Home Shield provides some peace of mind. But for a newer home or newer major appliances, it may not be worth the investment.

I wasn't getting power to my outside outlets and to an outside light. The contractor had to come out twice. The first time they came out, they did not fix the problem. I called American Home Shield and they sent someone else out, and fixed the problem. I've had a great experience with AHS. They made sure I was taken care of.
