The AC is fine. But I have two major issues. The technician who came last time switched it so that it would heat only and that's why my air isn't working. That's a concern because that cost me $75 for a service call. My other issue is that my refrigerator is still not fixed. There have been four separate calls and the guys that AHS sent last month, I called right after they left because the tech said that the water wasn't going through the line and that wasn't true. When he was in the home, there were adults that were communicating with him. He went out to his truck and never came back.
Also, when we opened the door to the refrigerator, the drawer was broken. I called AHS to report that. Not only are my water dispenser and refrigerator not working but I have a broken drawer as well. I requested another company to come and fix it and nobody has come yet. Most of the time, I get good customer service but I wouldn't recommend the technicians AHS sends sometimes. Also, when I call for a follow-up, people say they're going to follow up and they don't.

Our air conditioning broke. We did a claim for it and there was a communication breakdown between Home Shield and the service company. When the service company came out, they were fantastic and they knew what to do. It turned out to be my thermostat. It was a quick fix. Home Shield on the other hand is absolutely horrible to deal with now.

The handle on my shower faucet was leaking. It wasn’t able to hold the pressure and it was starting to leak around the knob. The shower turned on by itself. I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield, and it was an easy and pretty smooth process. After the claim was submitted, they contacted me pretty quickly. Then they had somebody out here within a reasonable amount of days. The plumber was super professional, super helpful, and did a really good job. With my experience so far, AHS is a great home warranty company to go into.

I had an issue with my heating system and the gentleman from Eagles HVAC Services had the part with him. He took care of it. He was very professional and seemed to be very good. I have another issue, which is with the microwave and that happened after this HVAC issue. To even get a part, American Home Shield is taking almost 30 days, which is very painful. There was one issue where the plumbing needed to break my drywall and AHS asked me to pay for all those things. I have plumbing coverage but they wouldn’t pay for it. So, this specific issue with the HVAC is one of six issues that I had and this is the only issue which went smoothly. Every other issue takes a lot of time to follow up with AHS. They don’t care. Unless you call and be on the phone with them, no one does anything even for a year. You can keep waiting and they won’t do anything.

Since we moved in, the electric situation here has been some sockets work and some don't. I needed someone to come check it out, so I put in a claim for them and I had to pay the $100 deductible. American Home Shield answered my claim really fast and the technician was out here the next day. The guy was nice and helpful, but he said there was nothing they could do under the warranty.

Everything was fine with American Home Shield. They had somebody come out to fix the leak. The claims process was kind of rough, but it ended up being nice. The first company they sent out was full of crap. The guy came early. I wasn't home. He said he wasn't gonna come back. Then I set up an appointment again. This girl said she didn't schedule me, then she scheduled me again. They called me at 8 o'clock the next morning when they were supposed to be here and said they couldn't make it for another whole week. That was Royal Plumbing.
AHS sent another plumber from Steed HVAC. I called that same morning and they got another plumber out. He was real professional. He came right out. The rep called him and he said, "I'll be out within the next hour or two." He was out an hour or two. Then, he diagnosed the problem and got approval and came and fixed the issue. I had no problems ever since.

AHS can do a little better with their response time. In recent years, whenever we placed a call with AHS, it would take a maximum of four days. But this year, I placed three calls. One was for the smoke detector and it took them almost a month to come and fix it. Last month, my AC was not working. It took almost three weeks to come and fix it. Right now, our water heater is broken. It's almost 17 days and nobody's here yet. They said they are going to come tomorrow. But, this is the only problem we are having. Otherwise, the service is great. When the tech came for the AC, he fixed it in five minutes. I am happy. As long as they are fixing the problem, I don't have an issue. The only issue I have is the timeline to come and fix the problem.

We just used American Home Shield’s service for a free maintenance checkup for the air conditioning. So far, so good. We also used them for a repair on an appliance. The tech knew exactly what the issue was. We had gone on a trip, and when we got home, there was water under our refrigerator. We cleaned it all up and then we thought, “Okay. Maybe it was just because of that.” But then something really was leaking so we called AHS and we had turned the water off on the back of the refrigerator because we didn't know what it was. The tech replaced a part and everything was good to go. So far, our refrigerator’s been fine.
The thing that was interesting was we're in Stafford and the guy from the HVAC company came all the way from Ladysmith. I was like, “Wow. That's pretty far. “ It was Shepherds Heating and Air, but he said he's got the contract with AHS. I just thought he would be more local. He was really good and nice and informative, but I felt bad that he had to come all the way out here.

Our air condition unit wasn't blowing in our upstairs of the house. So the guy came out and he cleaned out the unit. He said it looked like nobody cleaned it out in years. He showed us that the vents needed to be halfway so part of the air would move up and the heat would move up. He went through everything. He was very helpful. He got it all taken care of. Everything's working great. We're cool and warm now. American Home Shield has been very good to us. They are very helpful. Our service guy contacted us immediately and was out within hours.

Claims submission over the phone went real well. I let rep know what was going on, and she got right on it. The problem started with my icemaker quitting to work and when the guy came to fix that, he figured out we had a leak behind the refrigerator. I had to call the plumber, Rooter King. They came, and the guy wasn't even here 45 minutes, if that long. He knew his stuff, and he was able to diagnose and fix it right away. That was the second time he came. The same guy came and did our washroom a few months ago, which was pretty cool.

I signed up with American Home Shield back in December because our home is almost 20 years old and I was gonna need more maintenance and repair of things. When I have a claim, I go online and submit one. They ask me what services I might be needing and I get a response right away on who will be coming out.
Pipe Down was the contractor we had when we saw water stains on our ceiling. It turned out there was a little crack on the PVC line from the water heater that goes into the house. Pipe Down was prompt. As soon as you file a claim, there's a 24-hour window when they can come. They usually come the next day. pipe Down was very professional and good at explaining what they were doing and why. One benefit of having a home warranty is you're gonna get reliable contractors that can get the job done and it's a fair price. American Home Shield is a company with great customer service and a really good database of contractors.

The service of AHS has really been great. We would recommend that everyone have this service. We've used it a couple of times. We got our ice maker and our microwave done. Recently, something inside the AC units gave out. The techs came out within a week. They fixed one and they said, “There wasn't for two, it's for one.” They said it was electrical. But then we had an electrician come out, and then the electrician said, “No, it's not for an electrician.” They came out again and fixed the second unit. Everything is working fine right now.

I've had American Home Shield in the past and I know that they provide services like this both in the spring and in the fall. I take advantage of both of them to make sure my HVAC and my heating elements are in working order as the seasons change. All Tech was sent out to my house for a routine spring cleaning and that cost me $75.
Owning this house, this is my first experience using anything from American Home Shield for this house. This process was quite very easy. The service found in my HVAC was decades old so I decided to get a new HVAC system. In the long run, that will save me a lot of money. American Home Shield is well worth the yearly price. I've done that before when I owned a house previously. I made sure that the new owners got American Home Shield in part of the buying process. When I looked at buying this house, I made sure I asked for it from the seller.

The initial issue when Express Appliance came out was a leak in my dishwasher, creating a big puddle on the ground. They had put in a part, but it didn't solve the problem. So, we ordered another part. The only issue is that they won't let me schedule an appointment with them until the part comes in and it gets shipped directly to me. Once I get the part, I have to call them to schedule an appointment and it takes weeks. I've already been almost six weeks without a dishwasher at this point.

I submitted the claim online through the portal, and then there was a mix-up on when the contractor was going to come. They initially said it would be on a Thursday but then, I didn't hear anything for a little while. When I called back, they said they would be there on Saturday. But it ended up working out. They did a really good assessment. The gentleman that came by was very helpful, and friendly. I also had a plumbing issue with my toilet and put in a ticket for that. The contractor came by to fix that issue.
I like the convenience of having American Home Shield. It protects all of my appliances. I have a pretty old home, so it's good to call them and have somebody sent out. Usually, the contractors are pretty quick with coming out. In some cases, it's a few weeks out. But for more critical situations, they will do what they can to come out quicker. But it would be great if American Home Shield would do a proper review of the companies that come out to perform these services. For example, the gentleman that came by to do some work on the washer and dryer recently, it seems like people had good things to say about them. But most recently with the plumbing issue, I looked at that company and nobody seemed to say good things about them.

American Home Shield sent out Oz Electrical for my ceiling fan and exhaust fan in my bathroom. The ceiling fan worked every now and then, and it makes such a ruckus. The bathroom fan is the same way. It’s really loud and noisy. Also sometimes, it would run. Sometimes, it didn't. I thought it may have been the switch, but it was the fan. I got an email saying I had an option to let them replace the fan or I had the option of getting $151 to replace it myself. The fan costs more than that and to get it installed is more than $100. So, I opted to have Oz replace the fan, ceiling fan and the exhaust fan in the bathroom. I just have not heard from them since. It's been probably a month or so.
I have reached out to American Home Shield and they were gonna reach out to Oz to see when they were going to complete their contract. I've had AHS for a while and I’ve never had any issues up until now. Overall, it’s good to know that there are professionals that can come and repair things for you, and it is reasonably priced. Also, the people from AHS were courteous.

American Home Shield sent somebody out the year before and said they fixed the door of my refrigerator. But they didn’t. I had them come out to try to fix it again. The part that turned the light on when you opened the door was broken. They replaced it with the wrong part the first time around and it worked for a little bit then quit working. It wasn’t American Shield’s fault, it was the company that they had hired at that time. Fleshers was the second company that came and they did a great job. They identified exactly what the problem was and got the correct parts. The ice maker was frozen so they had to thaw that out. The unit is working great now.
The biggest benefit of having American Home Shield is I don’t have to worry. When I have a claim, I usually just call because that's easier for me. They have all the information about anything so I just need to tell them what I need to be done and a company gets back to me right away. Some comes usually within a day or two. Also, I like that American Home Shield keeps reminding me or offering preventative maintenance, which saves me a lot of money on the back side. They look out for you and I'm looking out for them too. It’s a win-win for both of us.

I had American Home Shield for a while at my old house. There was only one incident where I paid the $100 and they didn't fix the issue. It wasn't explained to me well and I was disappointed. They should have gone over that coverage with me when I called in the repair. Other than that, I've had good reviews with them. I got their coverage because it's cheaper to pay $100 for them to come and repair than put in a $10,000 system.
When my air conditioner wasn't working, I called American Home Shield and there was a little language barrier so it was difficult. I couldn't understand the customer service rep's dialect. I had to ask two or three times for clarification on some things. I asked her at the time, how long would it would take and and she said somebody would notify me in 24 to 48 hours. I then got a text from Greenway. I've had good experiences with this company.
The gentleman that came out both times was very courteous and explained everything he was doing to me. He told me what the problem was, fixed it then let me know what was done. He was very cool. I've had them out a couple of times for the same thing. When the guy came back, he said he thought he fixed the leak but the unit was still leaking Freon. He repaired it again then put more Freon in there. He could have charged more. I just appreciate the service that I received from them.

I called American Home Shield to make a claim, and they referred me to Sigmond Plumbing. That company assigned a person, and they called and told me that he was coming. Two days later, he came in and worked in the back of the tank on the commode. American Home Shield works the way it's supposed to work. However, it wouldn't be something that I’d put in a claim for if it was something that I could get done for less than $200 since it costs me $125 just to have them come. I could probably have somebody else to repair it cheaper than they would, but then it costs me $800 a year to have the thing every year. I wouldn't recommend any kind of home insurance thing unless they have a house with a lot of old equipment in it.

American Home Shield has sent a contractor to come out. I still have two outstanding issues that haven't been repaired. I'm waiting for that to be resolved. It has been about a week for both issues. So, I have two tags. One of them was for a repair that the contractor came out a couple of 6 weeks ago to fix, but the problem is still there. It’s a leaky tub. They had somebody come out and they replaced some parts. And supposedly, it was fixed, but the tub was still leaking, so they came out a second time last week. And the tech said that they needed to order a part, that they would contact me about when they would come back out again. But I haven't heard back from them.
And this last week, we also had someone come out to look at our fridge which stopped working. And I'm still waiting to hear any more response as far as what the next steps are on that. They said that a part needed to be ordered and it’s most likely gonna be fixed by the manufacturer. But I haven't heard follow-up on either of those things. The first and second guy were both courteous. My only complaint at this point is that I haven't heard back from them about having them come back out to fix the problem.

We've had American Home Shield off and on at several of our properties over the years. They are inconsistent in terms of getting people out on time and the quality of the work. Sometimes it's excellent and sometimes it's not. For the last repair we had done, it was the third time we've had to have it done by three different people. One guy said it should be covered, the other guy said it wasn't and another guy said it should be covered. The first two times, we had to wait for days and it didn't get fixed. We were afraid that this last time we were going to have to wait for days. But they got somebody out there pretty fast.
When it's good, it's good. When it's inconsistent, it can be aggravating. When you do a claim online, you don't have a chance to say, "This is the third time it's been broken. Please don't send me back the same person." You're starting over every single time. If you don't call, you don't get a chance to talk to somebody to explain the situation. Whatever is wrong is not necessarily showing up in their little drop down box. They could have a box where a customer could explain what's going on. It would also be nice if a customer could get more than one thing done at a time without having to start over.
We are grateful for the time that you've taken to share you AHS experience. Please let us know if you need any assistance in regards to your warranty. Have a great week.

Our hot water tank was busted and I did a claim for it. It was the worst experience I've ever had with American Home Shield. I paid the total amount that I needed to pay. It was $2,000 and they sent me $1,000 back. They refused to pay for the service to be done so I had to pay for it myself. We went a whole month without hot water and I had to call somebody that's supposed to call me back. I talked to the reps Dion, Omar, and Chantelle. They were supposed to call to rectify what was going on with that problem. They have yet to call me back yet.
The water from the hot water tank went down to my crawlspace and damaged it. I had to call a claim to my insurance company because American Home Shield will not contact me and there's mold and water down there. That has to be cleaned out. It was horrible. We got these little bugs that were coming up by the washing machine. I had Terminix come and check it all out and it ended up the tech went under the crawlspace and it's all damaged. We're breathing in the mold and it's wet down there. I wish that American Home Shield would do something about it or compensate me. Now, I need somebody to check because they're seeing that I canceled my policy. I do want to cancel my policy but I don't want to cancel it until this is all taken care of. I want the water damage to get taken care of and get reimbursed.
The contractor they sent out was B&E and they were ignorant. They said they were coming and we were waiting for them for three days. They then canceled and said they couldn't come because American Home Shield won't pay them for what they have to get, which was the water tank. I had another claim with American Home Shield and the tech that came out for the circuit breaker was excellent and he fixed that issue. I'm also trying to get American Home Shield to send someone to come and do my air conditioner and do the air filter. But I can't even get that because I need to get past this hot water claim first.

I just used American Home Shield for the first time. It has been within the last month. Everything was fine. They did what they said they would do. And they hired the company to come out and fix it, and that company wanted to be inclined to. I was pleased with it. When I called the AHS, I didn't go through the automated process because I had specific questions. And one was, "Hey, look. If I pay this, are they gonna call me to make an appointment and do all that stuff?" "Oh, yeah. That's what happens." It took a week, which I expected for somebody to call me back. They didn't. They called to tell me, "Hey, this is your appointment." I work full time. But it wound up working out where it was fine. That was my only hang up with AHS.
And the company that they used was super busy. It sounded like they probably do warranty work a lot for the home warranties. So immediately, when you call them, it goes to voicemail and it says, "Hey, we can't help you with this. We're waiting on parts." And they ran through everything. So that made me believe that they get a lot of inquiries. Which is fine. But I left a message and they sent me a text the next day saying, "Hey, we can make an appointment for you." So, I went back and forth with them that way just once or twice and they were responsive. And they showed up when they were supposed to. They looked at it. They evaluated it.
My wife said, "They're just going to replace it" because we have old pool equipment. But, "They're not going to replace it. They're just going to try and fix it." I said, "Yes. That's what they're supposed to do, if they can fix it. It's not their problem that it's old. They're responsible to make it work again.” And thatis what they did. So, they ordered the part in and they showed up. Once they diagnosed it, it was less than a week that they called to set up a new appointment and to come back and install it. They showed up on time that second time, very friendly and clean.

I had a wonderful experience with American Home Shield at a house I had before. I had an old washer and dryer and there was a repair that needed to be done. The repair people ordered a part and when they were trying to fix it, they broke something else that pretty much rendered it inoperable and put it in for replacement. They gave me a new one, but my tenant at the time had to wait two weeks. He was mildly inconvenienced, because he had to come upstairs, but after that, it was fine.
Home warranty companies have varying reputations, and American Home Shield’s reputation is at the top of their peer group. That's how I feel from personal experience as well as what I've always told people. I'm a real estate agent. I've also often had very good interactions when I've had to deal with anyone from the company. The people are very courteous. They seem to be knowledgeable about what their company can and cannot do. They take the time to educate you on things you can have as a claim and things that are not covered. That's both helpful for me, as well as my clients, when I'm explaining to people who often call me and say, “Hey, I have this issue. Is this something that American Home Shield covers?” I always start off with, “I don't work for American Home Shield. But these are things that they typically cover.” I also tell them, if they have questions, they can call American Home Shield or the regional account manager.

But I have to charge you additional $1,400 out of pocket.” If American Home Shield would've told me beforehand that the only thing they were gonna cover was $380 for the water heater and that I was gonna have to put in all the supplies and all this kind of stuff and labor, I never would have submitted $100 claim because, to me, that was a waste of my money.
I told American Home Shield that I wanted to find somebody else to do the job. But they said they can only offer me $380 to purchase a hot water heater. I told them that I was dissatisfied with that because I went to Lowe's and the cheapest hot water heater starts at $600. The rep told me that it was only $380 because they buy stuff in bulk, and that's how they get the charge. This hadn't been a very good experience at all. I'm not going to continue to pay them a monthly rate and get the same feedback that I get.

I liked American Home Shield's plan versus the other providers. I used them when the thermostat was stuck on 65. It was cold and there was a loud noise coming through. A tech came out the same day and he said that it was just in lock-out mode and that it was fixed. Two days later, the problem happened again. I called American Home Shield. The first time, I paid the service fee. The second time, they took care of it because it was a callback. They sent the company back out. This time, it took a couple of days for the same guy to come out.
The second time the thermostat was locked on 75 and it was too hot. The guy was paying more attention. He changed out the thermostat and located the bane for me that wasn't furnace-related that I thought was furnace-related and walked me through the process. It was a good experience. I just wish the furnace guy would have done it the first time.
Also, the first time I called in the claim, it wasn't difficult. The second time, I had difficulties or wasn't too happy with the person I was talking to on the phone. I was having so much difficulty with them so I went online. With the second call, I wish it was a little bit more consistent. With the first call, American Home Shield was prompt and I was able to get the service request in and I got my email. The second time, customer service was really weird and brushed me off. That aside, American Home Shield is the best decision I made. Being a first time homebuyer, it gives you that peace of mind that you're protected and somebody's actually helping out just in case because you never know what could happen. It's still a little easier when you're protected in the sense that if you don't have that couple extra bucks, you're covered and protected.

I recently had a slab leak and the techs from Legacy 4 were awesome. I called that evening and the very next morning, they responded. They were out by 11 o’clock. They knew what they were doing. I got the guy’s card and I told him that if anything ever happens again, I’m gonna request Legacy 4 and not the other company called Affordable Leak.
When I thought my hot water heater was clogged because it was leaking underneath the water heater, a tech from Affordable Leak came out and said theyw ere going t have to order a hot water heater. He added that it had to be brought up to code. He gave me this bill that American Home Shield is not gonna cover and it was $1,800. He was triple charging me for things like the pan and the stand. This happened in the middle of April. He said, "We’ll get on it and we’ll make an appointment for May 16th.” That was three weeks away. That was not service. I felt like they were putting American Home Shield customers at the end of the line. We found the leak and I busted the concrete out then we called the other plumber. They came out and fixed the leak. I put it all back together.
I like American Home Shield. They always answer the phone. It doesn't matter what time or what part of the day. Sometimes, customer service is hard to understand because they're in the Philippines. They don’t speak really good English and you have to really listen to what they’re saying. Sometimes, they don’t understand what you’re saying. But they always come through in the end and do a really good job. I would recommend American Home Shield to somebody that's worried about stuff like that going wrong. You have to be able to pay that monthly premium. When I first started, it was 50 bucks. Their prices have gone up to $64 so I was thinking about dropping them. They have good service but they're pretty expensive.

American Home Shield has been excellent. I got Herring Electric recently because the other people before them were terrible. They didn't care about the service at all. I expressed my complaint to American Home Shield. They dropped them, they apologized to me, and they gave me a credit. I had electricity issues from the garage to the garbage disposal. When Herring came, they diagnosed it pretty quickly. They also fixed it right then and there.

A tenant in the home that I own said that the bathtub was not draining. The tenant coordinated with them and they got it fixed. AHS advertised offering the free maintenance before the summertime. So I did that and The Right Tech guy was real good. They cleaned and cleared some stuff on the air conditioning unit. It looked like everything was working and functioning. I was happy to do it because it was the first time I did it.
The vendors were good. But there was one vendor that was not good in terms of being flexible with scheduling. It was rough. Overall, American Home Shield is a good service. It's a good portal to find the right vendors instead of me looking and googling and finding people that are not verified. I have trust in AHS that the vendors that are being utilized are verified and are good. Customer service has been really good also with AHS when I call and they are pretty accessible, and there's no long waits, which is always nice. But some way to explicitly say in plain English what's covered or not covered with each category would be nice. Because sometimes I'll put the request in and then it goes through and then I get a call from the vendor that tells me that, "Oh, we got a request from AHS for this, but it's actually not covered." Then I'm surprised because I assumed that that category covered it all.

Our AC had stopped cooling so we did a claim through the American Home Shield website, which was very easy to do. I got an email and a text message confirming that a contractor had been applied to the claim. They gave me the name and the phone numbers to contact the contractor in case they didn't contact me within 24 hours, but they did. A tech came out and found out that it was some sort of circuit thing on the outside unit that had blown out. He was very informative and talked my son through this issue. It was a really good experience. He replaced the part and the unit now works okay. It always runs a little hot because it's Central Florida with no trees around, but the unit is cooling the house. I would recommend American Home Shield. They're very reliable, they answer right away, and there's usually no problem with the technicians. He said I had 60 days to call it in if it didn’t. American Home Shield replaced my washing machine. They’re gonna mail me a check for my washing machine because I went out and bought one. They gave me very quick service. I wasn’t out of a washing machine for very long. The only thing I don’t like about American Home Shield is that I’ve paid my bill even before it’s even due, but it’s saying that my bill is not paid. It’s automatically drafted out. So, I don’t understand why they keep sending those messages. It’s aggravating, especially for a person who pays their bill on time.

When I had a refrigerator go bad, techs fixed it. I also had claims for a disposal issue, some electrical issues, and a plumbing issue. The price for the home warranty has gone up through the years. Right now, it's $75 just to come out and I don't have to worry about the items then. At first, American Home Shield was great. Now, they seem to have gotten pickier about things. I still think they're a good deal though. It's just customer service used to reply quickly. Now, it's all automated and I do not like that.

Once you get a person on the phone, they talk with respect to you and that makes the whole difference.
I called American Home Shield when my air conditioner was out and I told the gentleman that I spoke to that I needed air. The person I talked to earlier said that I couldn't get anybody. It would have been a month out. I asked the second gentleman if he would please help me. He got on the phone and I had somebody out within the day. I give this gentleman kudos. The tech was very nice and he made the air conditioner work with whatever he did. It didn't take more than 10 minutes. I had a recent claim for my stove and everything went fine. A tech came in and he did what he had to do then left within 30 minutes. He took the back off the stove and did his thing. He changed out some units because he had to order them. The stove is fine.

My A/C stopped working in Texas and I was told my situation was urgent because temperatures were below 103 degrees (it was 100). I’ve been waiting for weeks for my A/C to be fixed — mind you it is a simple fan relay replacement. Multiple appointments were rescheduled and technicians that do come are late and doing the bare minimum to leave quickly.
Booked my appointment on April 20th, we are now on May 19th and nothing has been fixed yet. No one on the phone has been helpful and to transfer me to a supervisor takes 24 hours. I am stuck on an endless cycle on waiting the Contractual Relations department to get in touch with the technician (mailbox is full), and it doesn't move beyond this stage. Most companies give you the runaround and I didn't think I would get faster service. I had two appliances go out and American Home Shield's contractor contacted me quickly. One appliance had to be replaced while the other had to be repaired. I also had a claim for my dishwasher because it started pouring out water from the door.
They sent out a service person and he fixed it. I was surprised because that dishwasher is probably 40 years old. I was afraid because I thought I was gonna go through the same process when I did a claim for my stove where I was made to wait two or three months. The burner kept going out on my stovetop and by the time I did a claim, I was told "They don't make those anymore." That was the hassle trying to replace my stove. It wasn't American Home Shield though, it was the store. As far as the dishwasher, the tech came out here and fixed it. This is an ongoing problem with the microwave. This was my third microwave. We put in the same claim about being shocked. The guy came out and replaced the coil of one burner on the stove. American Home Shield didn't give us anything for the microwave. All the insulation on the cord of the microwave was burned off so you can see the copper wires in it. We took the appliance to where they told us to take it. They said there was nothing wrong with the microwave. They told us we could come and pick it up. We just left it there, and we bought another microwave. That one got defaced also. There are sparks flying off that thing. Whatever touches it, sparks fly like a 4th of July.
When I first noticed it happening, we were stirring in a pot. And you stand there and your arm may touch it, and you got a shock and you got away from it. And I placed a pan out of the oven on the top stove. It was wrapped in foil, and the foil touched the side of the microwave. It fused the bottom of the pan to the coil burner. And there was a hole in the pan. You have to pry the pan from the burner. We now don't use that side of the stove. I don't know if it's just the stove, or if the house isn't grounded right. I don't know what's going on.
The electrician put the tester in the outlet, and he put the tester on the stove and it lit up. So he said that it's the appliance. But my countertop looked like somebody put cigarettes out on them from the sparks flying when stuff touch it. The microwave I have now, its face got the stainless steel on it, that’s all crispy now. And my countertop has burnt spots where the sparks flew off once the current hit it. I was doing something that he just stood back. He said, “I wouldn't touch it.” Sometimes I can be stirring in the pot, and I can feel the current coming up the spoon.
The guy said he would say that it's the appliance, and I waited to see if anyone would get back with me about the claim that I put in. This has been going on for a while. When they call me back, or I'm gonna try to call them, I should not pay another $75 because my issue is ongoing. They haven't solved it. I want them to get out here and give me some results. My daughter has been with them for some years. And I had called them out before and I got response quickly. But if I can't get any results, I have to go somewhere else.

We had a garbage disposal that was stuck and they replaced the part. It worked out within 24 hours. The plumber did a good job. But it's not like that all the time. I had my heater having trouble and they sent somebody who broke the pipe and claimed the entire condenser unit needed to be replaced. They quoted for 3,500. When I talked to another provider, I was able to fix the issue for $400. That was a bad experience with AHS. What is covered and what is not isn't very detailed. I had to replace the part and it was on me. I had a good experience with my dishwasher and other small things but the bigger problems, AHS did not do well with.
AHS needs to take responsibility if something happens by the vendor they're sending out to us. Instead, they say, "We do a second evaluation" but that guy is also saying, "Oh, the pipe is broken. You have to replace it." But that pipe was broken by the technician they sent the first time. So it was all messed up.

My experience with Jet Heat & Air was okay. My unit looked beat up 'cause it was old. The tech looked at it and decided something had fallen on it so it wasn't covered under the warranty as it wasn't a mechanical failure. I was like, "I guess I'm gonna have to use insurance to get this replaced." So I called my insurance and I started getting quotes from other HVAC companies around this area. Both of them that I went to told me very flatly, "Yeah. This is absolutely mechanical failure. You can see this thing came apart and then it got thrown around the inside, and it got thrown out the top.
That's why all these little pieces are outside the unit and not inside the unit." A fan blade had cracked because it's just so old and the crack got wider. It started cutting up the inside of the unit and then the fan blade broke off and got thrown out of the unit. So, I got a completely new unit. I have three accounts with American Home Shield. I have with them my primary, my daughter's home, and a two-flat that’s also my primary. I pay for all these. American Home Shield was offering a free air cleaning for the air conditioner at my daughter's home. I had my daughter schedule it in March and then American Home Shield scheduled it in April. But they rescheduled. They said they had to wait until the temperature get to a certain temperature in order for them to test and get it cleaned. Earlier this month, they gave my daughter a call and said they had to cancel. They had to reschedule for the people that has no air and they had had to address them. I respected that.
I called my daughter today and told her that I keep getting these emails. So I asked her if they haven’t done her air conditioner? She said, “No, they rescheduled again.” I said, “Wait a minute. I know they rescheduled.” She said, “No, ma. They did it again.” I then asked her when is the schedule for now? Because they're supposed to come out this week for her. But they rescheduled it for next week. That’s stupid crazy.
I’ve been having problems with American Home Shield for my Lynwood location. I had them come out to do electrical work. The work order was to address two outlets in the house. My garage door wouldn't open up from the keypad electrical, and the light in the garage wouldn’t come on. The outlet in the garage was not working properly and I told them the light on the rangehood was not working. When the guy came out, he said, “Ma’am, I can address these outlets. But this rangehood, that's for appliance.” He said I would have to put in a call for an appliance guy to come out. He also said, “And as for the garage, for the light not coming on and not opening, it’s a garage door.” But I told him that it still deals with electric. He said, “No, ma’am. I’ll put it in for that. No problem.” So he did the two outlets.
When the garage guy came out, he said he didn't deal with the light issue. I told, "But they don’t come on when you open up the garage door. And we have problems with it opening up. Sometimes, the keypad don’t work.” As he was doing the job, he said, “You know, I’ll tell you what. It has to be at the point that it won’t open up. Now, it is sometimes. There’s not much we can do. But so far, it’s working. But you need to call for the electrician to come back out and address that light part you have.” So I called back American Home Shield and told them what the garage guy said. The lady put it in. It was supposed to be a recall. But when the guy came out, he gave me a bill. When he submitted, he said he had to put a light bulb in. But he never fixed the problem because I still have a shortage in the switch coming in and out. So I have a bill right now with American Home Shield, saying I owe them $100 for an electrician for coming out. But they’re trying to address it now because I’ve been dealing with that since February.
Today, I was on the phone with American Home Shield. I was also on the phone with them yesterday and a couple of weeks ago. It's just ongoing. This service stinks. They said that they would credit me $100. But I don’t want the credit. I want it removed all for there. I still can’t get the guy to come in to clean my furnace because that mark is on there.
For my building, I was having problems with the heater in November. I gave American Home Shield a call. Then somebody came out and took a look at it, and said they could do a couple of things. But American Home Shield denied it. So I told them that I wanted a second set of eyes on this. The second guy came out and told American Home Shield that this heater hasn’t been working for years. But I said, “Well, if it wasn’t working, how do you think I was getting heat in here for the last past years before y’all came about?” They said, “Well, ma’am, we have denied your claim.” So I had to pay about $8,000 to get the heating system put in. I was having the system put in around December but I have rusty pipes. In the American Home Shield contract, it says they address rusty pipes and leaks. My pipe is leaking and corroding now for my heating system. But they said it’s pre-existing.
At the same time that my heating system had to be replaced, I had a bad toilet leak. My son’s unit upstairs was leaking down the stairs into my bathroom. So the plumber came out and I had a water valve that was leaking real nice and slow. He put the wax ring on and replaced it because that was worn out, and then said he need to come back. He needed to get the approval to do the collar because it was going out on the toilet stack. American Home Shield approved that. But the plumber didn't come back.
By February, I gave American Home Shield a call and told them the plumber was supposed to come back out and fix the issue. He didn’t close the valve that he was supposed to fix for the water. He said he didn’t have it. He was going out to get it but never came back. American Home Shield said, “Ma’am, we have to give you escalation.” I told them that I was not gonna pay for the same thing twice. The plumber didn’t finish repairing what he came out to repair. So they allowed to waive that and call it as a recall. But the plumber didn’t come back out until March. He finally replaced the water valve and did the collar to the toilet. You can see where the water leaked in the ceiling downstairs on the first floor and American Home Shield covered to repair that. But it wouldn’t have been that bad if it had been addressed in December.
When that plumber came out to fix the gas leak, he did not put back on the shutoff valve and that was a health and safety issue. By law, you’re supposed to put a shutoff valve there before he walked away from my home. I said, “Wait a minute. Plumber, you didn’t put the shutoff valve on there.” But he said, “Oh, no, no, no. I’m too old for this. The gas people have to come out first and test it. Then, give me a call, and I’ll come back out.” So I called people gas and they came out and tested it. I told them that it doesn’t have a shutoff valve.” He said, “No, your plumber have to come back out and do it.” I said, “Okay, I know that. But I just want to see if you’ll agree to do it.” He told me no and that it didn’t make sense.
I called American Home Shield and told them about it and that I didn't want the plumber back in my house under any circumstances. Every time he came here, he did not complete his job. But American Home Shield said, “I’m sorry. We got to give it back to the same plumber.” I said, “Wait a minute. This makes no sense. You all know he’s not doing his job. You all see I'm constantly being inconvenienced.” They told me that they were sorry. But I told them, “That’s all you all ever say. But what good does that do? First of all, he’s jeopardizing me and my grandkids.”
I was breaking everything down to American Home Shield and then I told them to give me a supervisor. But they said, “Well, we can put in a request, but it's gonna take 24 to 48 hours.” I told them that I didn't care how long and just have someone give me a call. I ended up speaking with the supervisor who said, “Ma’am, I’m sorry, but there’s nothing we can do. We have to give it to him because he had the job.” I said that didn't make sense and gave them examples of how much of a health and safety issue this was.
My hot water tank went out on May 12 and I called American Home Shield. They gave it to Sears. Sears came out on the 18th and they said they didn't know what was wrong with it. But then, they reported back to them and said that it needed to be cleaned. But the problem is that the gas valve was worn out and the safety device on that gas valve is old and worn out over the years so it would not allow you to light it because that’s the safety mechanism on it. But Sears didn’t know how to report it. After they couldn’t do it, American Home Shield assigned it to S & C Heating and Cooling. I told them, “This is the HVAC company that you all are assigning it to. Call them and make sure that they do it, and that you all will pay them to do the repairs.” The young lady in the escalation department said, “Oh yeah, that’s not a problem. I’ll give them a call.” She gave them a call and then told me, “Yes, they’ll do it. It’s not a problem.”
I called the company and asked them if they replace or repair hot water tanks, and are they allowed to do it under American Home Shield. They said, “Sure, yes. We have the work order. The technician knows exactly what he needs to do when he gets there. But he has to take a look at it.” Then the technician got there yesterday and called American Home Shield but denied him to do the work. They said that it needs to be reassigned to a plumber. So my hot water tank is still not repaired or replaced.

When I called American Home Shield and reported a problem, somebody reached out to me within two days. The tech came when he said he would. He checked out the issues and ordered the parts. When the parts came in, he called and said he was gonna come and put them in. He put them in. He was pretty good. There were several issues that he took care of. He got parts for the stove, the parts for the oven, the thermostat and the light. The light I thought just need a new bulb. It needs a new light switch. Then the burners would click, and he put a new sensor. When he took the wall-mounted microwave apart, there were some old parts in there that when he checked, they don't even make them anymore.
The guy put in a report. AHS sent me some money for the part to replace it but they are all on backorder. I can't get a new combination microwave and wall oven right now. They said it could be probably till the end of the year. When I get the new part, I’ll notify American Home Shield that the part is in. I got to show them that it's a new part and it has a warranty.

I had Blizzard Air come out. They did fine. They were way backed up when I first called. It took them over a week to get here. They were supposed to do a tune-up, and that never happened because I turned on the AC and it didn’t work, so they came out and fixed some minor things and got it working again. So, it was a good experience.
I was a little displeased at first with Blizzard Air because they were non-responsive when it was the free checkup. But when I was a paying job, they seemed to mobilize a little bit faster. They get paid either way to do it. That was kind of what I took away from it. But other than that, they came out, they did what they needed to do, and got us moving in the right direction.
I like the range of coverage that American Home Shield gives. I used to have Fidelity, and Fidelity sucks in comparison. They would deny claims and things like that. As a homeowner, there's a lot of stuff that can go wrong in your house. What I appreciate about having American Home Shield is that they're there when you need them to be. That's a blessing.

The techs were willing to explain what was happening. I told the guy that I tried to take the tap off and it felt like it was gonna break. It did break so, we had to turn the water off and he went into the lawn and fixed it. The customer service with American Home Shield has been great. It has never been an issue although one issue I have is, just like everything else, the prices go up. But I couldn’t live without the warranty. The contractor had to clear the stoppage but it wouldn’t clear so they put a camera down there and they were able to diagnose after about half an hour. The cast iron sewer pipes under the slab foundation were rusted out in a ball of tree roots and the only way into with the slab foundation was to dig. That excavation was slow. It was all done by hand and took about two months. But they took care of it satisfactorily.

I'm about to switch services because I don't like anything about American Home Shield. They raised my price and didn't tell me, and there's a lot of things they hide. They're not upfront with any of the customers. I had a claim last year with plumbing and I had to cover $800 out of pocket even though they got $800 worth of money from me monthly. I had to fight them to get my deductible back too. I had a really bad experience with them when it comes to their customer service. Plus, the people that answer the phone don't speak English. A lot of them are sourced out from the Philippines and Hong Hong, and we had difficulty filing claims because of the communication barrier. I'm about to call a guy named Ethan today for another service that's pretty similar but they're $10 cheaper a month.
The other thing that I also don't like about American Home Shield is, when I paid for my deductible, they deducted the money from my account right away, but it took them anywhere between four to six weeks to get to my address to service the AC unit. The guy who was to come out for my AC had to cancel the initial appointment, then it took him an extra three weeks to come out to my house. Other than that, the pre-season check was awesome. The tech said everything looked good.
American Home Shield sends an email that if you don't keep your AC up to service, they're not going to cover it if something happens. I used to do AC work, so I can pretty much do the maintenance on my AC unit myself. I can't do the Freon because I don't have a license to do it anymore, but I know how to clean my AC and what chemicals to buy. I just have service companies come do their checks to make sure. However, I would be very skeptical to whether or not they would fix any of the claims because they always look for something that's not in small writing to cover. I'm not saying that's what they do, but that's how I feel.

American Home Shield is on my mother's house. She has done all sorts of stuff with it, mostly plumbing issues she has had fixed. And every once in a while, air conditioning goes out. And for someone on a fixed budget, it certainly helps her. Submitting claims, for me, is easy. For her, it's difficult, because she is very hard of hearing. People with accents she doesn't do well with. So the majority of the time when AHS calls, it’s someone who has a very heavy accent, so it's difficult for her.
We've had one plumber that was terrible. Constantly didn't show, cancelled a few times. And one time, showed up at 9:30 at night to an 83-year-old person's house. So the next time we called and had to have a plumbing thing, we asked if there were other contractors available. And AHS found us someone else that could come out. AHS is a good product for my mother. It gives peace of mind that if anything major was to happen, we would be able to afford to get the system fixed.

They solved that right away and replaced a panel. But I had to pay a $75 service call two different times for the same issue because it wasn't within the 30 days. That 30-day call-in for the same issue should be extended for a lot longer time because it was probably 45 or 60 days in my case and I had to pay. That aside, my service with American Home Shield has been good. The challenging part is when I call for service and I have to speak to a rep. My understanding was he had no hot water as well as a gas leak, and he was occupied with grief and making funeral arrangements. I tried unsuccessfully to get the company to help him. I called at least 8 times, each time the company read a script and promised that there would be resolution. For the five days I was at my dad’s home he had no hot water. Each day I called I was told that the Inquiry was being addressed and resolution would be within the next 24 hours.
The only thing this company did was send a repairman out on the first day I was there and that person recommended a complete replacement. I paid $89 for this and 4 days later he still was waiting for the company to complete their end of the agreement. After 10 days, and AHS still reading their scripts and promising resolution within 24 hours, my sister decided to have the water heater replaced and have the company reimburse, which they NEVER did. They sent out a tech from Beaches heating and air and he said a part would have to be ordered which I waited all last summer for and they supposedly replaced. A day later had problems again. Again they came out. I did this at least 5 times. I requested a new company. They wouldn't send out a different one. Well the last straw was that the same company came out told me my freon was low and it was going to cost over $100 to fill.
I told him I don't have that much money at that time. He said I will fill it and when we get the money to call and pay him personally. I didn't feel comfortable with that. I called and cancelled my policy. Now I had a tech from different companies that I paid out of pocket for say that Beaches Heating and Air who was sent out by AHS rigged my air and burned up the motor in my fan and now I have to pay over $7000 to have the whole unit replaced.

There was an error message in the thermostat, which generally indicates that there's a stoppage in the drain line to the air conditioner down into the second-floor bathroom sink. I initially filed a claim on the internet but I was unable to express the precise nature of the problem and the provider wasn't able to do anything. I had to follow up through a phone call in order to get the appropriate allocation for the repair. The contractor came out and they were able to diagnose the issue. But the difficulty was in the diagnosis itself.
The diagnosis suggested that it was something that we in the house have done. But since we don't go up in the attic, it's not possible that we had done it. The net result is that I’m out of pocket for $4,000 in order to get the issue replaced. There's a plastic connector that connects the perfectly serviceable heat exchange coils to the drain line and that little connection point costs about 35 cents. But it cannot be replaced and I ended up having to buy an entirely new set of coils. It would have been nice to be able to appeal the decision and express that the only people that could have caused the damage, which we were supposedly responsible for, could have come from people that were employed by American Home Shield. Those are the only people that have been up in the attic working on the air conditioning unit.

We came home and water was running out of our garage. It turned out to be a rather simple problem in that there was a crack in a pipe. We live 40 miles out and the technician went in, bought parts, brought them back and didn't complain. He put them in and showed my husband, in case it ever happened again, how to fix it temporarily so we didn't have that much water until he could get back out.
We also had recently an air conditioner that had a part that needed to be replaced. That went well. I like the promptness of American Home Shield and the ability of the providers. The people providing the service are very knowledgeable in what they are doing. The only problem we've ever had with anybody from American Home Shield is the appliance person. He had replaced the dishwasher, the washing machine, the dryer, the microwave, but he'd call and say he was coming in but wouldn't show up. We were sitting there, waiting, then he'd call and say he was coming the next day. Two or three days later, we'd call him and he'd say he just got the part. Back in December 2020, my furnace went out. It took American Home Shield three weeks to get it to heat. Finally, it was because the lady I talked to noticed that I had 30-degree weather. Nobody called, nobody came, they didn't send anybody. I called somebody on my own, and they ended up not paying for those people. They sent somebody from another county who were three teenagers. They looked at the furnace and said what I told them the other man said. They didn't even take it apart and look at it. That wasn't professional. They just said, “Oh, yes, it’s old. It needs to be replaced.” “Okay.” So, they gave me $1,500 for a furnace. That is not what a furnace costs. That is way less.
January, the electric water heater went out. I had a young college student living in my guest house temporarily. Because of COVID, he couldn't go back to in-person class. He lived there from January to June, and he moved back to LA. The water heater went out. I could not leave him there with no hot water, and I wouldn’t call and wait three weeks again. So, I paid for my own water heater without even calling.
It was March 3rd I called and said I had a problem with my ceiling fan in my dining area. I didn’t know if it was the switch or the fan. And AHS said I could have up to six electrical things fixed when I made a call. So, I listed some of these items, one of which was my garage door, which had to be a separate claim. But they sent me a garage door person from another county that also took a long time to get here, when I couldn't get my car in and out of the garage because I don't have a walkthrough door, I only have big doors. So, I had to leave it disconnected all the time. And my son was afraid somebody could be hiding in there when I came home. He really hated it that I had my garage door disconnected. And it took a long time.
AHS got me somebody who doesn’t work this area, but he came and replaced my garage door opener. That turned out okay. But the problem was the people do not speak English. They do not understand what I'm saying to them. How do I get somebody that speaks English that I can understand them? And when they don't send me an electrician, they do not understanding me. They gave me the phone number of an electrician, and I called him. He didn't want anything to do with AHS. He was far away. He wasn't even local. I paid for my own ceiling fan to be fixed, and the other two items that needed repair because they never sent me an electrician.
A few years ago, AHS fixed both of my wells and I was very pleased. But something has changed. The main issue is they made people in this county unhappy by the way they pay them. They would agree on a price for an item, and the contractors would told me they changed it after the fact, and don’t pay them what they agreed on. So, they don't want to deal with AHS. That was the issue with our garage door company, for sure.
I had another problem. I live in a rural area, and I have a septic tank. And the policy says that if it’s full, AHS will pump it. AHS sent a plumber, not the septic people, who didn’t charge very much. They charge less than a plumber. They sent this plumber from another county here, who ran a snake down. He didn’t open the thing to the septic tank, he ran the snake down. And there’s a bit of grass on the snake when it came out. He said, “We can’t do anything about that.” I called the septic people, and paid them after paying 125 for this guy who did nothing.
The septic people came out and said the tank needed pumping. I found out afterwards, my granddaughter did five loads of laundry, “No, your septic tank is supposed to do two.” A septic tank goes through a process so they don't disturb the top. They have a pipe that goes down to the bottom of the tank. It was down 18 inches below the sludge, and that fell off. And this guy they sent out didn't even know that. It would have been covered because they cover pumping. So, I had to pay for all that.
I do not call AHS often. They haven’t talked to me last year. Just this year and 2020. I’m thinking of discontinuing it. My daughter said, “Mom, put your monthly payment in the bank and then have the money to pay for whatever you need.” That makes sense. If I needed a new kitchen faucet, I don’t know what to do. I don’t know whether 125 to call AHS and wait forever, or call somebody else and put that money towards a plumber.

I was happy with American Home Shield until I had this last episode with my air conditioner. I didn't know the protocol, first of all. They didn't explain everything upfront. It took me a month to get the issue fixed. I called them a couple of times, and they told me it was ordered. Then I found out that it hadn’t been ordered. Then they said that I had to choose whether I wanted the payoff or I wanted to have it fixed. My sister had went through that, so I knew to tell them that I wanted it fixed. But they kept saying that it was a mix-up with the payoff and receiving, and what I wanted to take it out, what they were offering me in the payoff and having it fixed. They didn't pay us anything as much as I thought that they were gonna pay on their part of it.
On the 28th of March, I called to have my air conditioner serviced. When they came out, and technician got up there. I don't know what he did but then the unit was no longer working. They did my daughter like that when she called out for a service call. When they got out there, they found something wrong with her air conditioner. They said it was a blade. AHS was thinking that that company may have been doing something. There was another guy from AHS and all of a sudden, they were very upset. They no longer dealt with that one particular company. They started sending out these other people to finish it up. But we didn't get it fixed. It's just been fixed no more than two weeks ago.
I've been contemplating on looking at something with someone else. I used to never have any problems with American Home Shield. But now they seem to be slagging and they're not like what they used to be. Here in Bakersfield, we reach up to 100 and sometimes 110 in the summertime. I've experienced that last year when my air went out. That was an emergency but I had to sit in this heat for three or four days. When it gets that hot, they tell people to go to cooling areas. But I’m disabled and I kept telling American Home Shield that. I cannot go and sit anywhere. I'm also wondering why do we keep getting all these foreigners that can hardly speak English when we call them for help.

I had a claim for my garage door and that was good. The techs got it fixed in only about 30 minutes. Another claim I had was for my AC that went out and needed to be replaced. Home Shield said that they have to put in a new one but I would still need to pay 3,000 something dollars. What was the purpose of me paying for 20 years and I still have to pay that much money? Even if I took the unit that they're giving me, it's only a three-month warranty on the unit that they are providing. If I didn't get that unit, Home Shield would only pay the company that did the inspection $1,800.
I'm starting to think that having the home warranty is not a benefit. Right now, my wife and I are thinking twice about letting Home Shield go. We pay them the fee every month and when techs come out, we have to pay a service call. There's really no benefit. If I was to save that $80 a month, I should have enough to pay for repair by the time something happens. When I call, Home Shield does get somebody out right away. But if someone asks me if they should get one, I would not recommend it unless they have a lot of old appliances.

I was fine with the contractor. They were great. The only thing that took long was getting my parts from American Home Shield. They ordered them. But what happened was the way they ordered it, we didn't know another part was inside one of the boxes. And once we finally found that out, because we weren't getting any feedback from AHS, we told Sugar City what boxes came in and what the numbers were. They were looking for all the parts. They were waiting for three parts. And that will be two parts within one box. And according to the number we gave them, it still showed one part was still coming. But once AHS and Sugar City got together, because they had been calling, and I called, they finally figured out that one piece was actually inside of the box. That washer ended up not working. I couldn't believe it was rusting already underneath. AHS ended up replacing it because it couldn’t be repaired. It would be way too costly.

I love that I can do requests online, and all I have to do is put in the problem then they get back with me really quickly. The service has been great, and we passed this along throughout my family. Contrary to the popular reviews posted for AHS - when it comes to customer service, AHS delivers an absolutely horrifying experience. Our furnace broke down in the middle of winter and was only addressed after multiple repeated followups, leaving us without heat for multiple days in Michigan January. It stopped working again in spring, and this time 1. it took us multiple followups over phone and chat to get AHS to send someone over. 2. Their tech came 6 days after the appliance broke down. 3. The tech ended up disturbing the device further leaving us with a furnace that kept running non stop so we had to cut power to HVAC.
4. Despite multiple followups with AHS over phone and chat they have not sent anyone over (it's 8 days since the appliance went down) nor do they respond to calls or chat requests anymore. It is really hard to comprehend how AHS are getting all these positive reviews when in our experience (and based on what we have heard from others) AHS delivers the most disappointing experience. I can only imagine that the positive reviews are fake.

We have pool coverage as part of our plan which our serviceable items specifically list pool equipment, pool plumbing and pool electrical. We did a service request and paid the $75 service fee for pool equipment because we thought that was the issue. DJs Pool Service came out and found out the issue is from a pool light which should be covered under pool electrical. The same contractor said he could fix it and submitted a repair request to AHS. I tried calling AHS on 5/16/2022 to ask if it was approved and the first lady I spoke to said the only way she could add it to the request was by submitting a new request but she would refund the $75. I asked her to wait so I could confirm with the contractor that the electrical was the problem as he had spoke to my husband.
After he did and I called back the next day, now I'm being told I need to pay a separate $75 service fee and it would not be refunded to add pool electrical. This makes no sense since it is the same contractor who has already been out. Also, when I initially did the service request I could've selected pool electrical along with pool equipment but we did not think that was the problem. We should not have to pay a separate fee for the same issue.

We moved into our current house Mar 26 2021. Our home warranty was with American Home Shield, phone number: 888-682-1043. Website is www.ahs.com. Headquarters address is: 889 Ridge Lake Blvd, Memphis, TN 38120. For that year, it was fine overall and we didn't have any big issues with them. They were definitely more helpful than not.
However, our year contract expired on Mar 26 2022 and we didn't renew right away as we were looking at our options. Then about a month ago, around mid April, our freezer connected to our fridge started to go bad. We were trying to figure out the remedies for repairing it and calling the manufacturer, etc. But then about 2 weeks later, the fridge started going bad too. At that point, I called American Home Shield to renew our warranty and get help. I found out that since it was still within a 46 day period (or some such time period), that when we renewed it, we would actually have to pay for April, even though it was now May and we didn't have an actual contract with them in April. So basically to get service in May, we would have to pay a "back bill" of the month before. I asked how to avoid that and was told if I waited about 10 days, I would be out of that time period and could get a new contract with a fresh starting date of about mid May.
Unfortunately, a few days later was when the fridge started to go bad, which greatly worried me as I have a baby and his formula was starting to go bad. I called and renewed our warranty only 7 days before we could have avoided paying this ridiculous, arbitrary "back bill" of the month of April. The vendor (Gulf Appliance Repair, Inc) actually so kindly came to my house that night but told me the LG fridge has been an issue for people lately. The compressor was broken and he said it basically can be risky to repair it as it can be a touchy subject with the other fridge components but that he would have to put it in for that, even though he thinks a brand new fridge is best. He also told me I could ask for a cash out and get the money for the parts and labor and buy a new fridge ourselves. This was on Friday, May 6.
I then called American Home Shield on Monday, May 9 to get an update and was told the vendor hadn't sent in his diagnostic form yet. They called the company and told me they would have it in by the end of the night. I called back on Wed, May 11 to get an update, they called the vendor and found out they still hadn't sent it in. I asked to speak to a supervisor but was told they have to put in a request for them to call me back, and that there are not just available.
Same thing Thursday, May 12. I asked to please escalate this and do something about it as I have a baby, can't get any food in the house and had to go out and buy a mini fridge for his formula and snacks. And we are eating out lunches and dinners which is expensive and not healthy. The representative told me she would check it herself and make sure it happened. I asked to speak to a Supervisor and she told me she would have one call me.
I called Friday, and still no diagnostic report turned in. I asked to spead to a supervisor and was told the lady before never did put my request in but that he was now and someone would call me within 24 hours. No call 24 hours later so I called again but now I was told it's within 24-48 hours that the supervisors call. I didn't call Sunday, May 15 as I figured it was a lost cause.
I called Monday, May 16 and found out the report and finally been sent in and the parts were on order. I then told the representative that I had been very clear in my first couple of calls that I wanted the option to cash out before any parts were ordered and that obviously this information was pretty upsetting and startling. She looked through their notes and told me no one had noted that and regardless, the vendor would have to be contacted by me so that he would send in a report that I can cash out. This didn't make a lot of sense to me, so I called the vendor and found out they never send in authorization for cash outs as it's the warranty company's authority to approve or disapprove such requests, they have nothing to do with that.
By this time, I was basically crying and so upset with the run around, wrong communications and directions that I was getting that I didn't even know what to do with myself. I called the warranty company again and asked if I could just cancel my contract with them and get my money back. They said I won't get any money back. So I asked for a supervisor to call me. They said the request was still in from Friday and someone would call. So that night, at 8:19pm they called. But I missed the call as I was putting my baby to bed. I was surprised it was so late as I had asked for the call to be in the afternoon. I called back and was told that they normally call again about 30 mins later. This didn't happen. They never called back at all.
So this morning I had to call again and was told I had to put a NEW request in to speak with a supervisor, which I did. I have been waiting hours and nothing. So I called just now to plead to speak with a supervisor and was on the phone for 20 mins. The rep said she can't get a supervisor on the phone and that they said to tell me that the supervisor assigned to my ticket will call me. This means there WERE supervisors she actually spoke to but they wouldn't get on the phone to help handle a very irate, sad, upset, disgruntled customer. This is really, really bad customer service and I see why they have a one star review on Google.
I would like to have a new fridge instead of the current one just being repaired as the repairman was pretty clear that they can get broken again and again at this stage and that it's better to just get a new one. If this is denied, and it's the parts and repair still, I would like to know what my option to cash out is. If this is denied, I would like my fridge repaired ASAP and compensated for the $100 mini fridge we had to buy, the food that went bad in the fridge with this taking so long (at least $100), and the dinners out we have had to have for the last 2 weeks (at least $250). Thank you for listening and for any help you may be able to give me.

American Home Shield irritates me from time to time. I threatened to throw them away, but we don't. And for situations like what we just had, which is our dishwasher went out, they would either come out and fix it or replace it. In this case, they fix it and fix it until they had to replace it. It's complicated. But those things are reasonably handled.
We had some problems with the air conditioner and we had the contractor come out. We had a problem with an electric circuit, a problem with our breaker box that we have in the garage that controlled the service in our bathrooms. And they came out and got that resolved. And I was very thankful for that because it was over my head. It was a 24-hour turnaround. It was certainly within my expectation. We've had so many other things. A lot of them are not covered by American Home Shield. Sevier Climate Control came out and did a great job. I have one claim going on and an appliance company is looking at my refrigerator and my washer. But I haven't had a great experience with that company. I've been kind of going round and round since the 21st of April. American Home Shield had a guy come out and he didn't seem very knowledgeable. He came out like he was in a rush and didn’t diagnose the problem. He was just taking a good guess at it and if that was not the case, then he’d come back the following week. I'm being inconvenienced a lot because I'm waiting a week in between each one of these little guesses. That company should do some kind of follow up. When they leave, I can't call. They don't answer the phone.
I reached out to American Home Shield two or three times. They’d send him an email then they'd get on the phone and say they 're working on it. American Home Shield would come back to me and say the contractor said they were working on it and that they were gonna be back out. They’d come back out and it's the same thing. I'm in the dark the whole time. Instead of them taking care of the problem and making sure I am good, I find myself on the phone every day trying to call the appliance company. When I talk to anybody, ain’t anybody seem concerned about it. Everybody is reading off a script telling me they'd get back to me. They don’t understand that I don't have a refrigerator or a washer. I'm hoping when the guy comes out Thursday that he could fix something.
Another thing is nobody lets me talk to anybody where I could escalate it. I’ve been throwing American Home Shield's name around even before I signed up because I heard they were the best. I'm starting to feel different about that because I can't even talk to anybody.

Hers and His Plumbing came out to do our plumbing request, and they fixed one of the toilets and did something to the other one. This claim is still in process though. When they noticed there was a bulge in the wall, we talked about that and the plumber said that that was a plumbing issue. They had to call in another company, SerClean, and when they inspected it, they found out that there was a leak from the bathtub. SerClean had to remove all the tub and the fiberglass walls, so I'm left with a big hole in the bathroom, waiting for the plumber. He has to repair the pipes that were busted behind the tub, and I was told he could not get back to my house for two more weeks. When he repairs those, then the contractor will come in and put in the new tub and the tile.
In the meantime, the plumber had to repair the faucet in the kitchen that was part of the plumbing issue, so he replaced that. I can tell Hers and His Plumbing is very good. The only problem was this guy was rather new, but now he's coming back out with the manager. They will be the ones to repair the bathroom pipes because there was an issue with the faucet. At another time, I had my oven that needed the pilots and the inside gas igniter repaired. That was a different company and they were very good as well. However, they had to order parts and it took over a month. The tech was also having a hard time really fixing the main part of the stove, so they ended up replacing the stove.
It takes a long time to get anything done through American Home Shield, but it probably does anyway. With the plumbing, all the companies are backed up, so I realized it's gonna take a long time for everything. Eventually, American Home Shield is doing a very good job and I'm very pleased with them. I pay my $100, and they send somebody out who knows what they're doing. On a different note, my friend, Patricia, referred me to American Home Shield, and I tried to go on, because I was told me we would get an Amazon card. For some reason though, we weren't able to do it. I would like to get my $25 Amazon card and have my friend get hers as well.

And this was supposed to have been expedited, which means that they had four hours to come out. We tried to call the guy but he wouldn't answer. We spent two days on the phone calling American Home Shield and all we did was speak to people in Ghana who just read scripts. They had absolutely no idea how important it was. I pay every six months for techs to come out. The HVAC guy who came yesterday from Climatemakers says techs never went in the attic that's part of the heat pump system. I was also a whole pound of Freon deficit. It was like I had never been serviced upstairs. There's no point in servicing downstairs if you don't service the upstairs unit so I'm pretty upset.
If we hadn't gotten Climatemakers to do the HVAC yesterday, my ceiling would have collapsed. At the moment, I have beams keeping the ceilings from falling down while it's trying to dry out. Generally, American Home Shield is okay, but the communication, the responsiveness and quality of the contractors vary. Some are very good to excellent, and some are fair to less than qualified. The online process of filing a claim can be difficult, too. I put in a claim for an item and did not realize the components of that item was not covered and so I paid for the service fee. They would never fund it. The contractor came out and said, “No, it isn’t covered under your policy.” Also, it takes a long time to get through an agent. The reps on the phone sometimes are terrific and helpful, and sometimes they talk around in circles and don't know what they're doing.
The quality of American Home Shield has gone down over the years. If a customer wants to bring the same contractor back for another service that's related, they should be able to request that. I was told I could not. Then I had one claim where a contractor was awful, late, and not respectful to me. I asked for a different contractor to finish the job but American Home Shield said, “No, you can't do that. It’s these people or nobody.”

The guy who came in for the checkup for the air conditioning system seemed pretty quick and efficient. On the other hand, when I had a replacement oven sent out, it took over an hour to get through to somebody when I had to call in. I tried to do it online but I couldn't. If you have a question, you can't get it answered online. I don't call in much, but I recently did a claim for a dryer and it was easy. It was a little disturbing though. American Home Shield sent an email out, and my payment was processed for the job, but the person they assigned to it didn't do that particular thing.
The claim was cancelled and AHS just cancelled my payment at the same time. They sent an email, but I was assuming that I was gonna get contacted by this company to get my dryer fixed. It added an extra few days without my dryer and that's a little irritating. No one reached out by phone and the email didn't quite describe what was going on. Now, my dryer is still not fixed. Overall, American Home Shield eventually gets the job done. It just takes a little longer than I would like.

I had a leaking faucet and my toilet was making a large squeal noise. I called American Home Shield. It was fairly easy to get through. I received the name of the company that was coming out and the telephone number for contact. So far, everything's functioning well now.

Appliance Wizard came when they said they would, looked everything over, and told us what they were going to do. They couldn't get parts for our dishwasher anymore so they would get a replacement. AHS sent us a notice to pick out which one we want. My wife wanted a black cover so we're waiting to see if they can get a black cover on the one we're looking at.
We had a problem with the air conditioner before. Techs fixed it and it worked for about a year. They looked at it this time and said it is not fixable. So they went back and told American Home Shield that. Part of it is going to have to be replaced so they told us that they would be getting hold of us and letting us know. They're working on finding the air conditioning unit that goes outside the heat pump. They're gonna have to replace all the coil and the unit that goes outside. We're waiting on them and it’s been about three days since they got back to us. So far, my experience has been really good and we're happy with AHS. They always send people to look at my issues.

I've used American Home Shield twice and so far, so good. The first time, their contractor came out to care for the dryer that was making noise. They said it needed to be cleaned and now, that's good. A contractor was out recently to repair an air conditioning unit which wasn't blowing cold air and that went smoothly. The air conditioning guy was quick. He came out and went to work. He answered questions, located the defective part, and made sure everything was working before he left. But I wasn't happy that the price went up as much as it did. It went up by 25% and I don't remember seeing an email that it was gonna go up. One of the reasons I went with American Home Shield was because it was cheaper than the previous service that we had. But that was a significant jump. When I asked the customer service rep about that, he just mentioned they were trying to remain competitive.

My dryer wasn't working. The contractor came, assessed the problem and had to order the part. The switch that turned the dryer on was the issue. They were back within two days and fixed the part. They were fantastic. Use American Home Shield because they're great.

My refrigerator wasn’t cooling. I filed a claim with AHS with a rep and they were extremely professional and helpful. They explained to me everything - what is covered and what is not and what they were gonna do. They sent out Sears and they were really great. Every time the tech did something, he showed and explained it to me.

Water was leaking inside my wall through the ceiling on the second floor. A contractor came out and looked through everything. Good thing I was able to stop it myself and it was the exiting water and not the incoming water. If it was incoming, I would have to turn off the whole water supply and I'd be down for three days before they got there. But it got inside the wall and they said was there was nothing they could do because that was not covered. They needed to cut the walls and pull up the floor but I told them no. I have other insurance for that and didn't want to pay for it when I have insurance to cover it. The only thing was that they were so far away that, if I would have hired them to do any of the plumbing work through the initial inspection, they would charge more than someone locally here for the travel time. That would have been a been a hit that would have went towards American Home Shield.
I love the fact that American Home Shield is able to take care of all the small things that I have happening in the house. The only thing is when you have an immediate problem, it takes a little bit of time to get a contractor out to you to resolve the issue. If it's something that's causing more damage, you want to get that immediate attention. But once they're there, they do a good job. I've already suggested others to get American Home Shield. It's a strong homeowner's asset.

So far, it's been good with American Home Shield. I put in a claim for the check up on the AC and a contractor came out and did it.

I call American Home Shield to file my claims and I tell them the problem and they charge me $100 to send a tech. They've been able to get people here within 24 hours. I recently did a claim on my washing machine. It was making lots of weird noises. The problem was actually the pump, which had been replaced once before about a year ago and it went out again. The gentleman from Arc Appliance was here and made it very easy to do. The first company that they gave me to call, called me and said that it would be 10 to 14 days. That company suggested that I call AHS back. AHS got Arc Appliance here within the next day. Their guy did a very good job.
I did run into a situation because I had their basic plan and it did not cover refrigerant in an air conditioning unit. So, I had to pay. Last year, there was a problem with my AC. They fixed the problem with the AC, but I had to pay $1,300 for the refrigerant. They only covered a portion, but it was my fault for not knowing that. I just increased my coverage to their platinum plan so that does not happen to me again.

I went downstairs and there was water all over the washroom floor. I couldn't tell where it was coming from so we stopped using the kitchen sink and the dishwasher. We also noticed it was backing up in the washroom sink. There must be a clog somewhere. I was thinking it was coming from the sink but it turned out to be coming from the floor. Two days later, we're taking a shower and we noticed that the water is getting cold. I went down to see if the pilot on the hot water heater had come off and saw a puddle of water on the floor from the hot water heater. We called American Home Shield and scheduled for service.
When a guy with PHD came in, he knew right away what the problem was and he fixed the plumbing issue. He unstopped to drain and replaced the plumbing. A pipe burst. He said they were gonna have to get the hot water heater ordered but it might take a week or so. American Home Shield sprung to action and they were able to address it. Instead of taking a week, it took two days. I was super happy and so was my wife. PHD was excellent.
I like having peace of mind with American Home Shield. Just like their commercial says, you have a problem, you call them up, and boom, they're there for you. Sometimes when we experience something where it seems like there is a language barrier issue, we ask for a supervisor and they remedy the situation. I was so happy with American Home Shield that my parents are getting ready to get it. While I was talking about the experience, my next-door neighbor actually went online and she got the platinum package.

We were having some water runoff and condensation in our upstairs air conditioning system. Water was collecting up in the pan. There was basically a plugged drain. I did a claim via the internet as it's become my preferred method. I can do it at my convenience and don't have to necessarily be stuck on a phone call. I submitted the claim in the evening after hours and by the first thing the next morning, I had received a call. Techs came out the next day. I had discussed with them what was happening so when they came out, they just evaluated it and then took care of it right away. They were here for about an hour and a half.

I wanted to preclude having to search for vendors. The problem, especially here in Texas, is people don't show up. When our toilets and drains would not flush, I notified American Home Shield through the phone and it was cordial. The contractor showed up the next day. The guy replaced the float valve. He knew what he was doing and explained everything that was going on. It was good as it could be expected by anyone.

I did an online claim to American Home Shield and it was pretty easy. I was given the contact information and approximate date of when the service was gonna be rendered. Plumb Tech arrived on time. The plumber diagnosed pretty quickly and got the boiler running pretty quickly. Overall, it's been easy to get the help needed when you need it. AHS is the number one rated company on Google. I would recommend it for peace of mind.

In the recent past, they've had better service vendors. We had a claim for the washer and the provider had to order a part and wait for it to come. It was a little stressful as it took a little long to get but not unreasonable. The tech was very professional and did the service very quickly. He was very friendly and helpful. He also did a little explanation as I like to know a little bit more. That was a nice experience.
Two years ago, there was someone who came out for something, and they were very lackadaisical and the work was kind of ho-hum. Other than that, since signing with AHS, I've been pretty happy and satisfied. Everything we've had trouble with, they've been able to send out qualified personnel. The warranty has saved us money. The money we pay them is well worth it.

Almost all the time, it’s hard to reach American Home Shield on the phone. Sometimes, the claim cannot be done online. I would try to talk to them on the phone, and it would be hard to reach them. Somebody came recently to fix the fridge, but I’m still waiting for a part for it. It’s almost two weeks already.
