We called AHS because our refrigerator went out. The tech that came out was very good. We really liked him. The service of the tech was great. The refrigerator’s working. However, it took us a month to get the part in for the refrigerator. We were without the refrigerator for a month. But that was the only drawback. But that didn’t use to be that way with American Home Shield or with the services that they’ve provided. Though I think a lot of it has to do with the environment right now and the COVID. I definitely recommend AHS. We're really satisfied with it so far.

My kitchen sink was leaking. The tech tightened up a couple a couple of fittings and stopped the kitchen sink from leaking. Other than that, it was my bathroom sink that was clogged up. He was able to take care of it and he was very informative as far as how I can make sure that the sink doesn't clog back up. What I was having issues with American Home Shield was the billing process and the payment process. I've had my card on file since I started the contract. nobody would charge the card, then I get a past due notice. And it took me a while to get through the process for AHS to get it logged in that that's the card I need to have charged.
Additionally, I couldn't get my password changed. When I initiate a change password, the system always tells me that they're gonna email me a link to change the password. That never went through. Every time I talked to someone, it was like they were totally lost. Finally, I talked to a supervisor and I got the problem resolved.

The technician who worked on the AC fixed the problem. Having AHS, I like that I don't have to go look for a person to work on things. When a claim is covered, the process is smooth. But for my outside pump, there was some misunderstanding and it was not covered. The reason they didn't cover it was they said it used chemicals. But in the pool, you're supposed to use chemicals. so that was my confusion. Why would it be not covered if American Home Shield knows that it's a swimming pool pump and in swimming pools, you use chemicals. I'm going to cancel the pool pump part of the coverage end of the year because if it's not covered, there's no reason to pay for that.

AT Appliances has been here twice. The tech just left today. We're kind of dissatisfied with the services we received because the tech has to come back. It may be a process of elimination though. He left the first time really quickly, then it was working. It was to fix our icemaker in our refrigerator. It has not been fixed yet. Now, he said he’s gonna order a motherboard. Our refrigerator isn’t more than two years old. We bought it two years ago. So, there should be a way to read if something electronically is malfunctioning.
This other gentleman that came out and did the other refrigerator, hooked up something like a meter and had a laptop, read everything to us and fixed it. It eventually wore out. We decided that we wanted something newer. And it seemed like he was bumbling through it. American Home Shield should be picking their providers. It will be important. I have recommended American Home Shield to others. I wouldn't today. I'm just not pleased with them.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Robert and I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

American Home Shield is a very good service. It gets you out of a lot of trouble whenever stuff happens at the home. Recently I had an electrical problem. I was trying to pay out of my own pocket trying to find an electrician, but then I had electricians say, “Oh, I can’t come today. I’ll come this week.” At first I didn’t know that my American Home Shield covered my electrical. But I called them and then the next two days, someone ended up at home and they fixed it quicker than I thought. The guy was cool and very professional. He gave me a call before he even arrived. That was a good thing. American Home Shield's claims process was very easy. There's nothing to break your head from it. They’re a good company. I’m planning on having many more years of service with them.

American Home Shield should be able to reschedule services and get another provider out to fix the issue if the timeframe has passed 24 or 48 hours. I had power out in three rooms. I work from home so that makes it complicated. One of the rooms that did not have power was my room. I had two work orders and Southwind came out. The tech explained what the problem was and that it was normal wear and tear. He fixed the problem. It's just this is my second time having issues with my claim. I had another where I had to call back because the washer is still not fixed. When looking at a home warranty, there are plans you can pick like the two combo. It just needs to be more specific as to what is being covered.

With my AC claim with AHS, the first guy came out and he had changed my blower. Didn't even tell me he was going to change the blower. He came downstairs, said I need a new blower, so he was going to see if he has one in the truck. Then he came back with a blower, and this blower was loud. There was a second guy who came, and at that time, the blower was working really hard to keep my house cold. Then, it needed something else. So, they had to fix it again. But I really don't like this blower. I would like my quality blower I had if they could fix it and bring it back.

American Home Shield's service is pretty good thus far. I did have an issue with one of the services I had asked for. They sent someone out here to check my air conditioning. Then they had to send somebody else back here to service it, and I was charged twice for it, which they told me if they found something wrong with it, they would take care of it. They didn't tell me I had to have two work orders in. I would have just told them to send somebody out here to fix it. So, I was really upset that they charged me another $75 for a guy to come out to do a job at the same unit that he could have fixed the first time. I paid $75 for one guy to tell me it was a leak. Then the second guy came and told me it just needed Freon and he filled it with Freon. I was like, “Why didn't the first guy do that?”
I brought it up with American Home Shield, but they kept putting me on hold, telling me, “Oh, there's not a supervisor on duty.” I can't understand why there wasn't a supervisor. Their customer relations is not the greatest. If they don't have a supervisor on duty that can take over the call, it's kind of like bad business. The person was explaining to me the same thing over and over. I was going, “Let me speak to a supervisor, somebody who has more knowledge or who can make a better decision.” I understand that the operators take the call. I’m not mad at them. But there should be somebody above them that can make a better decision or give me a better answer or solve my problem. They just kept me on hold. They need to improve on that. They need to have another person who can make a decision.
I had another issue which wasn't their fault, though, but they had called a company to come and look at my stove and they just called another company because the other company never came out here to check it. So, I'm waiting to hear from them. I had just called that in today and told them to get the second company to come out and look.

The service with American Home Shield was okay but I'm not happy with what I found out from the local contractor about the quality of parts that are being provided and that they're getting underpaid by American Home Shield. For my recent claim, American Home Shield came through and hooked me up with a service provider. It was a little unclear as to whether or not I was supposed to set up an appointment or American Home Shield should, but I ended up doing it and the service provider, Smart Choice HVAC LLC, was here the day after the initial setup.
I checked the reviews on the service provider and everybody seemed to like them, but I always hold reviews from the public with a grain of salt because most people don't really know what they're talking about. When the gentleman came out, he was on time, professional, and he looked clean. I asked him about the parts being provided and he told me about that. So, all was well and good. But the work was sloppy. He was out here to replace a condenser fan motor and it was a very simple job which was completed in an hour. The motor that he replaced was a generic replacement motor which come with mounting studs on both sides of the motor, the top and the bottom, because they never know if it's going to be installed up or down. And instead of a three-inch motor shaft, it came with a six-inch motor shaft which is quite long.
In any case, the gentleman installed it and he left the unused studs connected, so there are an inch and a half threaded studs protruding from the front of the motor and they're very close to the fan blades themselves, although they're not touching. When I asked him about the length of the shaft, he said it would be fine as long as it doesn't touch the compressor.
But the thing that ticked me off the most and indicated that this was the first safety issue was the mounting studs on the back of the motor. This motor is mounted upside down with mounting studs that are about an inch and a half long. They're threaded, they're steel, and they are now protruding out of the top of the air conditioning unit. I asked him if he was going to cut them down and use the acorn nuts, which are rounded safety-type devices, and he said he was just going to use the ones that came with it, which are regular little silver Japanesium-type nuts that left an inch and a half of threaded rod sticking up out of the top of the entire air conditioning unit. That's a safety hazard in my book and if I were to walk past it or lean on it, I could very easily cut myself.
The second thing that ticked me off was after he left, I took a look at how the motor was connected electrically. All these motors have a ground wire that is to be connected to the motor where it's mounted then travel back into the main wiring harness, and into the air conditioning unit. This is National Electrical Code requirement. Apparently this ground wire that was provided on the generic replacement motor wasn't long enough to his liking, so instead of lengthening it the proper way and connecting it to the wiring harness in the main unit, he simply tucked both ends up underneath the motor. So, the motor is mounted and it is not electrically grounded, which is a second safety issue.
The third thing I wasn't really too happy with was what he did with the excess electrical wire inside the air conditioning frame. I offered the gentleman some high-quality plastic tie wraps to neaten up the harness and keep it back away from the moving fan blade. But he opted to use black electrical tape, wrapped it up a little bit, and left it hanging. Now, this is Arizona and our average daily summertime temperature's anywhere from 100 to 115, 20 degrees. Black electrical tape doesn't really hold up in that heat, so I'm expecting it to let go and the wiring harness to become loose. It will get tangled up in the fan and then I'm screwed.
The last thing, all AC techs when they come out, the first thing they want to do is hook up their pressure gauges to the refrigerant lines to see if the high and low pressures are correct. This gentleman hooked up to half of it and that was fine. On the system, in order to access the charge port on the refrigerant lines, there is a brass cap that is screwed on to the fitting and the idea for the cap is two reasons. Number one, it keeps water, dirt and dust out of the very expensive valve, and number two, should the valve fail, the cap offers a secondary caution to prevent gas from leaking out. So, any common idiot would know that cap really should be there. But he took the cap off, put his gauge on it, did his thing, and when he left, he took his gauges and went home, then he left the cap unconnected. It was sitting in the tray.
So, if you paid American Home Shield $50 a month and an additional $125 for the service call, you might want a little bit better quality service on a unit that's 16 years old and is using Freon 22, which right is extremely expensive. The tech told me it's roughly $200 per pound because it is no longer manufactured. I also got the impression from the tech that he was rushing through the job to get it done, mainly because American Home Shield doesn't pay them enough for that service call. American Home Shield offered to send the tech back out to fix the issues but I told them flat out not to ever send that company to me again and that I will take care of the problem.

We've had a lot of success with American Home Shield. The two that stand out would be our Sub-Zero refrigerator and washing machine. There was some concern but the repair people were able to fix the problems and move on. American Home Shield is cost-effective. I was talking to my wife about what we pay on a monthly basis and we're ahead of the game. If nothing else, it helps us budget those expenses in a worst-case scenario. Either way, it works pretty well. Jones Electronics came out recently and fixed a problem. They were pleasant and very complimentary of being part of American Home Shield, telling us this is why we have American Home Shield. We've been very fortunate that we've been able to keep our appliances moving and other things as well. American Home Shield is absolutely worth considering. It's been beneficial for us and we've been happy to have it.

We had hot water immediately. I’ve never experienced that before American Home Shield, so I was very pleased with that. I've been a customer for a while so I would recommend AHS. I was upset when I realized that our contract was a Realtor contract instead of a consumer contract. Apparently, the Realtor contracts go up every year substantially and consumer contracts stay relatively close to the same amount every year. So for a couple of years, we were paying extra per year. It's silly that the sales people can't mention anything about the consumer plan until the customer asks about it particularly. I suppose they have to make their money somehow. But I was about ready to quit all home warranties because I was so tired of the price going up by about $100 every year or more. But that's part of being a first-time homeowner because I didn't know the tricks of home warranty companies.
We got set up with the home warranty from the seller of the house and I didn't realize there was anything you needed to do to switch it over to a different kind of contract. I nearly quit. The salesperson was very good at suggesting nothing but hinting at something. So, I asked more questions, which was how I was told about the consumer plan. American Home Shield is much like any other home warranty company. They do what they got to do. I usually get the phone number of the company that they say is going to come. When the AC wasn’t cooling properly, the tech put some refrigerant in it, and that worked out.

My garbage disposal wasn't working. The tech worked on it and got it going again. Now, we refuse to call AHS about air conditioning work. Our experience was absolutely horrible. We were 30 days with no AC with a baby and small children in the house. We would call and it would take a week or more for the techs to show up. When they did they said they thought they fixed the AC. Two hours later, it wasn't working again. The worker, who wasn't even local, told us to just pay him cash for the Freon. They put it in and it leaked out immediately. It was a total nightmare.
After 30 days, we called someone else to fix it. We would never ever call American Home Shield to have our air worked on. We call a separate contractor instead every single time. Additionally, rarely do I get a human when I call customer service. When we were dealing with the air conditioning work, I felt like the reps were not listening. We asked to have the repair expedited because we had an infant and it was 90-something degrees outside. They wouldn't do it.

Earlier this year, we had a washing machine that was leaking. The repair guy came out within 3 days, identified what was wrong, did a temporary fix until he could get the part, and then came right back and fixed it. It was done within 10 days. Recently, one of my two units stopped cooling in the house and I used AHS for that also. They had Greenway send out the techs the first day to look at it and confirmed that the unit was dead. The coil and the thermal expansion valve went out, and we ended up replacing the unit. They sent a project manager out a day after the techs came, and we talked over some pricing and repair options. Three days after that, the installation took place.
Everybody I've interacted with at Greenway was phenomenal. However, I am shocked that AHS didn't cover more of the repair of the AC cost, a major system in the house, but other than that, they're prompt in the response. Once I file a claim, I have a notification that a contract has been assigned within a few hours. Overall, I've been pleased with AHS. It is cost-effective in the smaller appliances, but it doesn't do much to cover a major home system like an air conditioner or furnace. The amount that they cover is just a fraction of the cost of the unit itself. As an example of a major system, they only covered $1,500 for my AC, while a new unit costs $7,500. My out-of-pocket was $6,000. With minor systems like refrigerators, dishwashers, washers, and dryers, they cover it all.

I've been a customer for a very long time at my house and there are some policy changes that I didn't like. If I were to have a repeat call, it used to be within 90 days if I need the same service and now, it's like 30 days. And one of my items was no longer covered and it used to be covered. Also, GE Tech came out for the AC and the tech wanted me to go through him, more than I went through my warranty company. He said to not do anything and that he would contact the warranty company. But I was used to hearing from American Home Shield. Then, he came back and told me it wasn't covered. I would have to pay $200. AHS needs to go back to the old contract but other than that, they have been very good. I have much confidence that they would provide me with good service with the contractors that they assign.

Sometimes, I have to wait a little bit to get an operator. But I've only had a problem once. I wait until I get an operator and American Home Shield does whatever they do, which the paperwork that generates a work order type document and sends it to their subcontractor. And that mandates work and the subcontractor usually calls me. If they don't call me within 24 hours, I call them. AHS assigns a contractor, gives me their phone number and they send it to me via email. And one way or the other, we schedule the home visit to the site.
There was another company that had been to the house five times and had not fixed the problem with the HVAC air conditioner. So the last time, the technician said that his company did not have the tools that were needed to check the board in the air conditioner. So American Home Shield sent out another company, Paxton. And when they came, they were very thorough and they said that the coils were all clogged with dog hair and dirt. And what was needed to be done was they needed to be cleaned. The initial company had identified that as a problem but they left me to believe that they had cleaned out the stuff. And then the air conditioner ran for a little while after that. Apparently, they didn't clean out that stuff and it was identified by Paxton. When I talked with the technician, he said that he would have to get with AHS to see if they covered that procedure and get back with me.
If the contractors are good, they're good. If they're bad, they're bad. For example, Apex Heating & Air Conditioning Services came out to the site and I had three items for them to check. One was a burner on the stove, which turned out to be okay. It was just teaching the tenant how to use that burner. The refrigerator, they fixed. And then the dishwasher, which needed repair parts. The technician said, “We'll order the parts, come back, and put them in.” They don't consistently answer the phone and they've got it fixed so that you can't leave a message. Which I would really like to review their contract with AHS because I can’t see that they provide the services that AHS initially contracted for. We finally got a installation time. And it took a lot of telephone calls to finally figure out if they had the parts. They weren't sure. And it took an inordinate amount of time, which we started with them on May 3. We're looking at August.
I would like better scrutiny on the companies that AHS subcontracts with to get the job done in the localities. Apex, to me, ought to have their contract torn up and forget it. First, when the technician came to install the parts, he said he couldn't because he couldn't get the dishwasher out from underneath the counter, that that was our responsibility. He led us to believe that his company had somebody that he could bring back and pull out the dishwasher. That happened to not be true. Then I found out that it was up to the policyholder to pull out and make the dishwasher accessible. My tenant over there did that. And I called AHS and said, “Okay, we've done that. Get us back on the install program.”
They called Apex. The lady told them that she would and they would set up an appointment. Never happened. I continue to call about every other day, which I document. So,m I waited a period of time, called back to AHS, and I don't know what they did. I guess they called on a telephone number that I don't have access to.
I've had American Home Shield on my residence longer than any of the rental properties. And every time I get another rental property, I put a contract with American Home Shield on that. That Apex situation was a hair puller and still isn't resolved. But all of the other times I have called them for stove, dishwasher, refrigerator, icemaker, the process has worked perfectly. So it’s not one bad apple spoils the bunch. It's one bad apple they need to turn over to their contract reviewers to see if they want to continue the contract with them.

My air conditioner ran all the time and I had it on auto, and it would never cut off. I thought that it was gonna burn out the motor. I called it in and the operator from American Home Shield did the rest of the parts of the information. She was knowledgeable and understood what I was going through. She was very concerned that we could get the problem fixed lickety-split, so that was good. The company put the service call in and set up the appointment for a week later because everybody was having trouble. When the guy from 7 Cities Air got here, he was on time and very courteous. He said, “Well, since it was really hot a couple of weeks ago, that's probably why it did that. But I changed the filter and the battery.”
The guy checked all the pressures and said everything was looking good, but if I had any problems, to call him back. I would recommend 7 Cities Air highly. They were very reliable, and they knew what they were doing. They went right to the unit, took it all off and took the cover. The guy also told me some good tips to do with the coils or the filters. He told me to take my hose and wash them off from time to time. That was helpful.

Techs came and repaired my refrigerator. They were professional and they did a really good job for me. They fixed the problem. But I'm fixing to call them back because the refrigerator is still giving me issues. I had another claim where techs came out for my cooktop and they said the issue was with the switches. Since those switches are out of date or end of life, they can't get those anymore. The cooktop was going to be replaced instead. I'm waiting on a check because American Home Shield wasn’t able to provide me the replacement.
In the beginning, our experience with American Home Shield was horrible because they didn't have an air conditioning representative in our area. When I used their service for the first time, I was without an AC for over a month in the heat of the summer. Since then, American Home Shield acquired a local company in my area. They came out this year and it was great.

We had a Freon issue and our air conditioners were from 1994. So, we were given the option to upgrade and we took it. Then, we paid through American Home Shield. It was $4,800 and the contractor, Dandy, came and installed the air conditioner. There was no problem with that but the guy who came did not hook up the sewage or the drain. We have a three-floor house and the air conditioner unit gets set up on the second floor. So the next day, on the first floor in the kitchen, we had a huge 20-inch water bubble through some good paint because it didn't bust. We called American Home Shield and they said we needed to talk to Dandy.
United Air Temp, on the other hand, came out for the garbage disposal. When you turn the switch on, nothing would drain. We used our dishwasher, not realizing that they were connected, and the water filled up about four inches into the sink and it wouldn't drain out. But over about 12 to 14 hours, it drained out so slowly. It turned out to be a clog in the garbage disposal and the guy who came out fixed it in 30 seconds. He had a wrench that he worked on the bottom for a minute and then, he turned it on. He showed my husband how to do it himself so we wouldn't have to call them back out because it wasn't a major issue. He was great and I liked United Air Temp.
The AHS website is fine and the only issue is that you can’t call anybody. You only get reps that can do service requests. You can't email anybody. You always have to call in and sometimes, it's easier to email. If you have pictures you want to show somebody, you can't do that. Still, we've had a good experience so we recommend AHS. The first year, we bought a home, so it was given to us. The second year, we extended the contract and it turned out to be worth the money because we've had to call four times. This is the second year I'm renewing it. It pays for itself in the end because I'm not someone who knows what I'm doing.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together.

The air conditioner wasn’t producing any cool air but we could hear it running. It was hot air that was coming from the vent. I had to jump through some hoops to let the claims rep know that my husband and I were suffering here but they connected me to a contractor. All American Services' Connor came out and he was a pleasant young man. He was conscientious about covering his shoes when he came in and kept a distance from us. Also, he explained everything to us. I've had problems with American Home Shield in the past when they sent a representative out but this young man and this company seem to be about what it should be with the customers that they serve. Air Climate Solutions was very professional. They were able to figure out what the issue was in a timely manner, which is not common for a lot of the service requests that I placed with American Home Shield. They are a decent home warranty company, but sometimes you get good contractors and sometimes you get horrible ones. It would be ideal if customers have the ability to choose the contractor from a pool of contractors based on their rating, as opposed to be given an auto generated contractor for your service request. But the process for requesting service online is straightforward. I love the fact that you get a response within a 30-minute window of submitting the request.

We have an older house and it's been good to have American Home Shield. We've kept it because our air conditioning system is pretty old, and the inspectors recommended that we keep a warranty and keep the AC maintained well, and keep the records of it. We've also had our dishwasher and garbage disposal replaced. We're in the process of replacing an oven. Then recently, the technician that came, who has been out to my house so many times, has replaced the hot water heater as it wasn't heating properly. We've had to have other plumbing done.

American Home Shield is only gonna cover as much as the warranty would allot, but having a home warranty gives us peace of mind that we don't have to pay so much. We call, the repair person comes out, and we're not taken for a hefty sum. One time, a plumber had to cut in the wall to get to the pipe that was leaking. After that, I called American Home Shield directly for a repairman to come out for the hole. All the repairman did, though, was patch the hole and the putty was not even sanded. The bottom of the wall that the leak messed up looks really bad, and he didn't even look to fix that. If we have to replace that whole piece, his work would have been in vain.
I don't know if he was pulling my husband's leg, but he said to my husband that American Home Shield would not cover that part of the wall. The repair company was supposed to send me a quote on how much they will charge me to fix that part, but I haven't gotten anything yet. Other than that, it was fine. They came out when they said they were, on the 21st, and between the time that they said, and the repairman was in and out.

Submitting a claim with AHS was simple. Just put the claim in either online or a call. I did it online. It gave me the contractor and phone number. I just called and made an appointment. However, AHS should allow you to use more than one contractor, or allow you to choose a different contractor if the first one doesn't work out. They like to keep dealing with the same contractor, but the problem I'm having right now, I can't get a different contractor. They'll work with you in doing that, but it has to be extenuating circumstances. It’s really depending on what the diagnosis is whether you pay again or not.

We had to use the service for a washing machine and they sent somebody out here. Then, I got an email saying I was past due to pay for that service. I called them and they said that I don’t have to pay. Then, I got a bill. I did this three times and this is the last month of the two months free. What I liked about that, the convenience piece that, any appliances, they can just go to American Home Shield and have something scheduled versus previously when I was not with someone like American Home Shield. It used to be you gotta find out whoever the tech is, and sometimes you get good apples, sometimes you get bad apples.
The most valuable thing to me with American Home Shield is they have their vantage network of professionals that they would send out to people's homes. That has been something that I was really impressed with. It's easy. Once you have a couple of those bad experiences with bad techs who came into your house and fix things that do not need fixed or fix it in a way that it needs even more fixing down the road, the sense of appreciation is much more. And the experience with the tech that came through, was what really sealed it at the end of the day. We filed a claim to American Home Shield for an AC repair. We just moved in and the upstairs was really warm versus the downstairs, which was extremely cold whenever we're setting the AC lower. There was probably an issue going on there. Usually, when it's still pretty warm upstairs and ice cold downstairs, it's overcompensating. The technician that came out couldn't really pinpoint any one thing that could be a problem, but he did find a couple. There was one solution, which he thought couldn't help quite a bit, but it did. It looks like our capacitor was pretty low on energy that it's supposed to be. It should be like 45. Ours is in the 29. So, AHS is replacing that for us.
They gave us some hints on improving intake in the house as well as possibly installing dampeners later on just to control the airflow between the two floors since we just got the one intake up top. The experience was great. The contractor called within 10 minutes of me submitting the work order through American Home Shield. So, that was fast. Overall, having the warranty is reassuring knowing that if something goes wrong, it's not gonna come straight out of my pocket.

They were really professional. It was a great job. In the three years I've had Home Shield, this is the first claim I've made and I was very satisfied.
One thing that threw me off of was they told me that I was having to pay for the Freon for the air conditioner. I didn't see any of that anywhere on the Home Shield site. So, I called them and they said, “Okay. Yeah. We only pay $10 a pound for the Freon. The rest of it is on you.” But I was just wanting to make sure because I'd got an email from them saying, if they say I owe a fee or anything, I should not pay it. So, I wanted to double-check. That was the only thing I was unclear about. When it comes to ACs, it just says, “Not all services are covered.” So, Home Shield can be a little more detailed about that. Chesapeake Heating & Air was fantastic. They were great. But the whole dealing with American Home Shield was a natural disaster because I didn't know anything. Nobody got back to me or nothing was online in my portal to tell me how much my copay was. I didn't even know what I was supposed to pay, my portion of the whole air conditioning unit stuff.
Lack of communication was a big thing. I had issues trying to get through to the air conditioning people because I didn't know anything about whether they were authorized. They left me hanging for two weeks. They just didn't give me any information. They weren't helpful at all. No feedback from American Home Shield. I never got a call or a letter or an email. Every time I went on the portal to bring up my portal, it kept saying it's pending or waiting on approval. This went on for two weeks. Then I started making phone calls, nonstop, to the air conditioning company.
American Home Shield told me I need to get in contact with the air condition company. Then the air conditioning company said, “You got an account with American Home Shield, you're supposed to get in contact with them.” So neither one of them would give me any directions as to where my status was, or what they're covering and what they're doing or what parts were being ordered and how much I was supposed to pay. And that was irritating to me. But I still recommend AHS. This just got the wrong people on the other end. Wrong employees that just didn't care. I love American Home Shield and they’re great. I like the coverage, the value and the cost. This was just my first bad experience with them.

There was some sort of stinky smell and I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. I thought it was methane but the guy from High Priority Plumbing that came out said it may have been because of a dry P-trap and that I needed to run water in all of my sinks in the bathroom. Hopefully, that would help. But that didn't solve the issue. It was the end of last week that the guy was here. I didn't have a chance to really deal with the issue again but I figured I would call someone else.
American Home Shield's claim process is usually pretty straightforward. Depending on what you're doing the claim for, it may take more or less time. The contractors are sometimes a hit or miss. The guy from High Priority Plumbing couldn't really tell me exactly what the issue was but he didn't blow me off and tried to help me think through what it could possibly be. He was very kind and seemed to be knowledgeable. He had some ideas of what else the issue could be. It sounded like it might be a lot more complicated and we couldn't get it resolved at that time.
I've been with American Home Shield for 20 years. There were times where people who came for service were really rude. I had someone who refused to put his mask on at the beginning of the pandemic. There have been other times when the people that came out were absolutely horrible and I had to tell the home warranty not to sent that company or person to my home again. American Home Shield has been really good about honoring those requests. Sometimes, I get great people. There was this guy that was super nice even though he couldn't get the problem resolved. Overall, my service has been good up to where I haven't canceled my service with the home warranty.
But there should be more clarity around how American Home Shield decides what is covered and what is not. Insurance companies are good about that. Other than that, their responsiveness and time are pretty good. Usually, people respond in 24 hours. Even if they don't respond to me, I get the number of the company that I've been assigned to pretty quickly so I can always call them.
I got my contract with American Home Shield as a gift from my Realtor when we bought our home. My husband and I didn't know anything about home warranties. It was the first or second time we used the service that we said, “We have to have one of these forever and ever. I'm in.” I would advise getting a home warranty before you need one. It’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. The home warranty will make your life a whole lot easier. Sometimes, you won't use the home warranty at all and you might think you paid money for nothing. But you turn around and your washing machine, dryer, or refrigerator would go out. Rather than you having to come out-of-pocket for all of those things, you'll pay the service fee and the issue would get addressed.

It's life-threatening when AHS doesn't allow somebody to help me during the weekend. Also, the original company, Integrity Air Conditioning, they were useless. They told me it was my underground drainage system that was causing the AC to stop. I had it re-dug and sucked out and there was nothing there. I won't let them come into my home again.
The last lady who helped me gave me the option for a second opinion. She explained that if it ended up being the same issue with what the first company said, I'd have to pay the $75. I was desperate and I knew that wasn't it. But even the second person I talked to at American Home Shield, I asked him if I can get somebody out then, and they never got that figured out.
AC Pros' Luis did a great job and figured out what was going on. He looked at everything and found that there's nothing wrong with anything except for the fact that the door to the air conditioner had a couple of screws missing. Also, the fuse box had been messed with somehow and it was vibrating, which was causing the fuse to go out. That was causing the intermittent problem. He fixed it and it's been over a week. Even so, I won't buy American Home Shield again.

When I made the call, AHS gave me an appointment two days later and my pool went from crystal to green because the pump was broken. The contractor came on time and fixed it. From the first time, the tech was confident and knew what he was doing. I'm so happy. But I would suggest that AHS have a contractor for emergency pool service.

I had an AC leak and it was resolved quickly. The technician was excellent and I'd like him to be on all those jobs if I could. He serviced everything and even though he had a theory, he checked everything before his theory was correct. So, I appreciated that. Because of the unexpected with new homeownership, the home warranty is quite necessary and I’ll keep AHS as long as I can afford to.

American Home Shield is a good thing to have. I’ve had two claims on my stove with them. My AC was replaced and so was my dishwasher. The electrician who came recently was very friendly and went straight to taking care of things. It was pretty fast this time. Last time, it was my air conditioner and those people took a whole week before they came out. It was 100 something degrees in the house so I was not happy about that one. I have a girlfriend living with me and she's on oxygen. We bought a window air conditioner and stuck it in her room so she could breath.
I don't like American Home Shield's billing right now. They're the ones that put that thing to my bank account and I don't have a bill or anything to go by. They take the payment out the last day of the month. About two or three days later, they send me a bill saying that they need me to please pay my bill because I am behind. I've called them several times and the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. If they have to turn it in towards my credit score, they're making me look bad.

We keep my AC unit on 73. On Sunday, I felt kind of warm. I didn't know something was going on with the air conditioning. So on Monday, I looked at it and the in-home temperature was 78 though I have the thermostat on 73. So, I called American Home Shield and the first people, One Way, had a date for August 10th. That was not going to work, so I called American Home Shield back. The representative who helped me called One Way to see if they could come any time before, and that would have been almost 22 days out. They were not able to, so she called New Phase. I spoke with the technician. He told me that he was in Avon at that time, and he will be at my house within 30 minutes. He was here within 30 minutes. He assessed the issue, changed the part, and my air conditioner is now working. So, I’m cool and happy.
On two occasions when I've called American Home Shield and someone was dispatched to my home, they hadn't got here. I normally always check to see if the company is a member of Better Business Bureau. On two occasions, those individuals were not, and I did not want them to come to my home. We were able to work something out. They were not on their way, so I'm assuming that's why American homes Shield allowed me to change the company. AHS should make sure that the companies they're using are either a part of the Better Business Bureau or there are not a lot of bad reviews online for the company. Overall, I like American Shield. I have recommended them, and individuals are currently using American Home Shield.

When a repairman came, I directed him to the thermostat. He knew immediately by looking at it what was wrong and took care of it right away. He explained to me what was happening and what caused it. That was great because it was such a simple thing that I was not aware of. The reason I have American Shield is because all the warranties have expired from the builder. None of them had explained to me how to maintain the unit but the repairman did. I was very grateful for that and I'm very glad that it was an easy fix.
This is the first time I've used American Shield and they responded really quickly. The problem was professionally handled all around. I was a bit concerned at first in talking to the lady who took my call but she turned out to be very helpful and patient. She walked me through and explained things about the coverage. The only thing I was concerned about was when I called to have somebody come and service. It was a weekend and I called the next day. They didn't call me back on Monday. I called them in the morning somewhere around 10:00 and they made the appointment there. If I had not called, my appointment would have been further out timewise.

It took three separate times for the technician to come out on our claims because of the parts. Our dishwasher would leak soap into our dishwasher and get all over our dishes. It was closed and not even running. Also, it was overdrying our dishes to where I had to throw away a plastic utensil because it turned them white and ruined them. I mentioned the water filter the first time he was here. It was plugged in, but it wouldn't push water out. When he would unplug it, water would come out. Then, I played with it a little bit more. When he came back to fix the dishwasher, I brought it back up to him and showed him why it wasn't working. He played with it some and agreed, and then ordered the parts, and came back and fixed it. He needed me to order something to make sure that it was proven that it wasn't working. Everything went great.

The AC had a leak over the door in the basement going into the garage. It turned out the issue was a clog and some pipes. The guy who came out was very nice and professional. He did a great job. We're very pleased with him. We've had a couple of good experiences with American Home Shield and we've had a really bad experience with them as well. When our refrigerator ice maker stopped working in early November, the company that they subcontracted to, Whirlpool, really dragged their feet on things. It was mid-April before the ice maker issue was resolved. Also, the case got closed when the people left here the first time. So then, we had to pay another fee to open up the case because it wasn't fixed. It was a nightmare. So I checked into other warranty companies because it shouldn't be that difficult to get a refrigerator fixed.
After so many times of Whirlpool coming out and saying, "Hey, this is what's wrong." and fixing it, they could have just declared the refrigerator dead. It's 12 years old. They had to do a nationwide search for the part. It was real simple, especially in that length of time. When American Home Shield says they're gonna call you back, they should actually call you back and not just drop the ball. So you have to call them and talk to a machine and wait again.

Monday, July 19th, my water heater went out and started leaking. I went online and submitted a claim to American Home Shield and I received a confirmation and notified that I would hear from someone within the next 24 hours. The next day, July 20th, I contacted American Home Shield and was wondering what the status of my service request. They notified me that my that the request was going to be handled by a plumbing company and I should contact them about when they would be out for inspection. I contacted the plumbing company on Tuesday, July 20th, and the plumbing company said they wouldn’t be able to even come out to inspect until the following Thursday, July 29th. That was unacceptable to me so I contacted American Home Shield and they assigned a new plumber. The plumber, The Honest Plumber, did come out that day to inspect and I was told that we needed a new water heater.
I asked the plumber when they would be out there and they said they had to wait to hear from American Home Shield. Wednesday, July 21st, I contacted the plumber and they said they still haven’t heard from American Home Shield, so they can’t schedule anything. I asked him what it would take them so that I can be scheduled and they said they just need an approval for American home shield and notified me that I would need to pay their deductible of $830. I told them that I was under the American home shield and I had paid my hundred dollar deductible already and there shouldn’t be any more that I would have to pay. They told me that was their deductible and they wouldn’t even schedule it until I agreed to make that $830 payment when they got there and the soonest they can be there would be July 29, (10 days after original claim).
I asked them what was $830 for, after all it’s only a $600 water heater, and it was under supposedly covered by American home shield. They told me, And I am quoting, they have to charge that much because "American Home Shield doesn’t pay **". I contacted American Home Shield and ask them what the fee was for and when they could have somebody out there. They have never responded. I have contacted them 16 times and on seven different occasions they told me they would contact me within the next 24 hours, the most recent one was today.
I spoke to a woman at the AHS call center yesterday who gave me her name Leil, who promised she would call me by 9 o’clock this morning and make sure that I wasn’t on the phone so that she can make her call to me at 9 o’clock exactly this morning. At 9:30 this morning I called again to American Home ** and spoke to another woman today who didn’t get give me her name but assured me that they would have a manager contact me within the next 24 to 48 hours. It is the eighth time I’ve been told that I would be contacted back in the next 24 hours and I have not yet once in the eight days since I filed my claim been contacted by American home shield. It is eight days later do not have a water heater and have not had a conclusion to this ongoing problem oh. I have spent no less than four hours cumulative on the phone holding to talk to someone and eight days waiting for a reply.
On the 22nd of July after they told me that $830 co-pay I said, "Please just give me the water heater and I’ll have my plumber install it," they said they couldn’t but they would offer a buyout so that I can hire my own plumber. On July 22nd at 1:10 pm I was told by an AHS call center representative that I would be called within 24 hours of what the buy-out would be, yesterday Leil a AHS representative assured me that I would hear from her at 9:00 this morning with the payout agreement. Both and everything else that American Home Shield has said is just flat out lies!
Every day they have made new promises and not kept any one of them. I have not received a single call or contact from them. I believe that this is fraud and legal action should be taken either independently or in the form of a class action. In sharing this problem that I am having with AHS, several people have said that they have had the same exact problem and just gave up and made their repairs on their own or even had worse experiences. The electrician did some work on the box on the breaker and tightened up the wiring and I haven't had issues since.
The only thing that I was a little disappointed in is that the warranty doesn't cover appliances. I could upgrade to get appliances covered, but whatever the seller buys for you in the process doesn't really cover appliances. My pump housing on my pool was cracked completely, a little wear and tear. I made a claim with AHS and the online portal was fantastic. Then I got a text message saying who was going to come out and about when everything was supposed to be completed. The contractor, JnJ Pools, was fantastic as well. The guy that came out went in the valley and found the part. Then he had it back on and told me what I needed to do to get my pool back up and working. Considering that I was down for a bit and it took a while to get that thing done, I had to hire my own contractors to bring my pool up and it's all good now.
But my AC unit is going to be a different story. I'm 15 days without AC and it's been 118 degrees many days here in Las Vegas. At first, the contractor, Doctor Cool, said that they would come out in three to five days. Then, I got something from American Home Shield that said it would not be done until August 16th. I called Doctor Cool the next day and they said that it would be in three to five days, plus some time out to actually get out here because they were so busy. Eight days go by, then I called them and they said they did not say that to me.
I called up American Home Shield and they told us to give them a few more days, and I did. Then I called again to American Home Shield and told them what was going on. They said they were going to send me out an email saying that they were going to buy me out on the AC unit or allow me to go on and wait for that part. They were going to give me an option to see how much it's going to cost to pay out for my AC unit to get a brand-new one, but that never happened. I have called every day. I've even got onto the Facebook account for American Home Shield and private messaged what was going on. Everyone said someone was going to get back with me but no one has. And my big part is I'm a heart patient and I wound up doing yet another surgery because I need a sterile environment to do a PICC line every day, and I can't do that with one room with three dogs.

He had to go back and report that to American Home Shield, and they took it from there. The tech did what he was supposed to do. But AHS is a different story.
I have a pre-existing problem. But they have a clause in their contract regarding pre-existing problems. But at any rate, I don't think they're gonna fix it. I'm gonna have my own air condition man to fix it for me. I even had them to send me another company for a second opinion. But we haven't even heard back from them. But I'm sure it's gonna be the same as what AHS found. Maybe they felt like I was trying to set them up. The thing just broke a week ago. It was hard for me to follow the contract that I have with the warranty company, but a guy went and showed me where on my contract that it was not covered, and I really appreciated him taking the time to help me.
At another time, our unit was leaking water from the back then there was almost an inch of water underneath the furnace area in the dish. I got a little excited, because of the electricity situation going down under there and I didn't know what was going on. Budget came in, and this guy, Sad, was very knowledgeable. He eased my mind about what was going on and explained everything. He took the back shield off and said it was frozen and it was just defrosting. I'm a visual learner and I want to see stuff like this, and he didn't mind me watching over his shoulder. I was very impressed.
Overall, I have recommended American Home Shield. I wouldn't look any further because all I've had is good experience. They have saved me so many headaches about worrying about a person coming in my home and not knowing them and their qualifications. The company has qualifications and knowledge of the backgrounds of these companies that they send out, and I feel very comfortable about that because I don't like a stranger coming to my house. I set up my account and filled out the AC thing, paid the fee, and I got an email that said G and R was assigned to it.
I waited a couple of hours, called G and R and left a voicemail. They called me back 30 minutes later and he gave me a time the same day. The tech was 15 minutes late, but also 45 minutes away on his last time, and I didn't really expect them to be on time. Every time I've had any problems like that, they've always been like 15 minutes time, because they're just running across the entirety of South Texas. When he got here, he looked at the AC. He said what it was and fixed it. I asked him what happened, and he explained in detail. If it were to happen again, I could probably diagnose it and do it myself because he explained it.
The AHS website is laid out relatively well. I didn't really have any problems once I went on the internet to get it fixed. The air conditioner was not working. I sent in a claim on American Home Shield's website and it was okay to use. Then, the tech came on time and he did a pretty fast job. I was satisfied with that. My air conditioner was leaking a bit. The website is easy to utilize and it lays out everything that I have with American Home Shield. They told me exactly who the contractor was. The only thing that was a little weird was instead of them contacting the contractor, I had to contact the contractor, which I didn't realize for a couple of days. I called them, they looked up the number for the claim, saw it, and they looked at where their techs were. They had one in the neighborhood that day, so they sent him over that afternoon. He was on time and fixed the ac without an issue. He was courteous and professional. He even filled me some different ways to keep it from smelling. He was outstanding. He even did a control check to make sure the ac was cooling off like it was supposed to. AHS does good work and I will always use them.

The tech that came out for my refrigerator put in a new circuit board and the compressor kicked right on. He said, "Okay, compressor's on. You should be good. Give it 24 hours to stabilize." But the refrigerator wouldn't cool off. I called him back and explained to him what was wrong. The refrigerator section in that unit is just an empty box. The freezer does all the work. Then, up in the top, in the middle, there's a little vent with a fan with a door that opens and closes. What it does is when the refrigerator needs to go down temperature, the door opens up, the fan turns on and it moves air from the freezer to the refrigerator. I gave that information to him and he did some research. But he told me I needed to go back to AHS as he already closed the ticket.
I had to go back onto American Home Shield and do a recall. He came back out and did the research and found out that when he put in the circuit board, he was supposed to cut a wire on it and nobody knew that. He found that out by Googling it. It wasn't documented with the circuit board or with GE. He went ahead and did that and now it's working really well so far. American Home Shield did great. J & J had to come out twice, which is never good. But he admitted what happened and he was honest and he came right out and took care of it.
The benefit of having a home warranty is things get fixed right away when something breaks, which could be very expensive. The bad thing is you never get to buy a new appliance because why would you if they're just gonna keep fixing the old ones. If I didn't have American Home Shield and my compressor wasn't working on my refrigerator, I probably would have just gone and bought a new refrigerator. But there's nothing wrong with the one I got. It's stainless steel and it's nice. AHS is great. That's paid for itself easily. I'm going to renew my contract without even thinking about it.
One of the key things is that the claim submission was all done on their website and there was no negotiating. They just took care of it. Very professional. When I signed up for it, my attitude was, when it comes down to it, they're going to nickel and dime me, just like an auto insurance company does when you get in an accident, they try to minimize the impact. But AHS didn't do that. They did whatever it took to fix it.

My recent claim with AHS was the garbage disposal. I am the owner and my tenant called me and said that she couldn’t get it to go like it was clogged. I called AHS. The techs came and she said that there is a special tool that you're supposed to use when it seizes up. She said that they were able to clear it. They did a great job and then they left. Every single time we’ve used AHS, they’ve been amazing. I recommend AHS.

Our AC unit was not heating the home. The fan would kick on, it just wouldn't engage the cold air or the fan on the outdoor unit. Then I called AHS that day when I noticed the problem at 7:00 in the morning. Didn't get ahold of anybody till later that afternoon. Then it took three days. They said it would be three days till they could get here and that really sucked ‘cause it was pretty hot. But we survived it. The gentleman came with his co-worker. They did a good job.
However, on certain things, like, heating or air, or refrigerator service and things that are essential, if there's a person saying, "We need it now," and AHS is only giving us one option and it's three days on the line, there should be another option like, "If these people can't do it, then we need to get somebody in that group that can help out in a timely fashion."
I had a washer and dryer go out. They came out one day. I could tell them everything about the issue and what exactly it was, they would still come out and look at it and say, "Oh, yes. That issue." But they didn't have the parts. We were down a week and a half without a washer or a dryer until the parts came in. Which I already explained it to them beforehand. But I understand 'cause I'm a field technician. I understand it may not be the same, as being explained, when they get there. But I would think they will have parts being that type of company on certain things if I already gave them off the model of the washer dryer. They had an idea of what was going on. So at least three of the main parts that are in that system, I would think they would bring just in case. But I'm still gonna recommend AHS.

I got two units, one for downstairs and one upstairs, and the one wasn't cooling upstairs. I called American Home Shield and they got AC Rescue to come out. When they came out, all of the Freon was out, and then the tech checked in the cap and noticed that the O-ring was out of it and said, "That's probably why it leaked out." So, he put that in, new cap, and they filled it up with Freon. It cost me an arm and leg because I got the old unit. They are outdated now. They had the old Freon. They still make it, but it costs $110 a pound versus with all the new unit which is only $10 a pound. AHS only pays first $10. That ain't nothing. I had to get it to get my unit running. Then, a week later, the same thing happened again. Coming out warm, wasn't cooling.
So, I called AHS and they said, "Well, we'll send them back out, AC Rescue." And they sent them back out. This time, they checked outside and they came inside to check out the core. So, they detected it and said, "Okay, that was a cap and something up there." So, they replaced that, took care of that, and then they refilled it back again, but they didn't charge for the Freon that time. Then, it went on. A week and a half later, that went out. I called AC Rescue, but they say I had to go back through the home warranty for them to have it looked at again. I did and they sent them back out. They sent out a different tech. He said, "Well, I don't need to look at the condenser outside. That is upstairs in the attic and stuff," he said in the coil somewhere.
When he opened it up, he said he took pictures and said there was a hole in here. I teed off because I said, "Well, they were just in there, and then you open it up and see it right all. Why couldn't the others see it?" They just go on with what they see. But they should have seen that. AC Rescue sent as assessment to the home warranty and they said it was due to lack of maintenance and upkeep filter.
AHS sent me an email and I called and they said they wouldn't warranty because it was maintenance and stuff on my part. But I told them I keep myself clean. I waited a few days and I said, "I need to call somebody and they'll have a discount." The rep that I talked to said, "Well, we can do a second opinion, but if they come out and see the same, well, you'll be charged for that service call and stuff. But they come up with something different and saying it's not your fault due to maintenance in changing that filter," then the warranty will do their part. And this time, they sent out A-US Air and they came out and checked everything. Said it was due to old wear and tear. But the coil was clean and condenser outside because I always spray it.

Island Breeze came out the first time to fix my downstairs unit. It was low on Freon and one of the coils was out. Then two weeks later, my upstairs unit went out and the whole coils and outside unit were shot. They came in and put a whole new unit outside. But then it was making so much noise. It was driving us crazy upstairs. They had different settings on the fan and they can set it on high, low and medium. So now they put it on either medium or low because it's a lot quieter. But it was always coming on. Then it would shut off. It would only stay off for five minutes. The thermostat was bad. They changed out the thermostat today and put a new thermostat in it and then put the speed of the motor at a lower speed.
Sam was one of their technicians and he was excellent. They came out here with four guys. They were four different trucks. They worked on it from 7:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon. They worked on it very well. Everything went smoothly. The only difference was from the time I called to the time they could come and put a new air conditioning unit was really eight days. But I'm not sure the equipment that they put in is top-quality. Because I used to have Carrier equipment and this is a no-brand name. The freezer seemed to be working and it was still making ice on that side of the refrigerator, but the refrigerator side wasn't getting cool. So I unplugged it, let it reset itself and plugged it back up but nothing changed. We called and the contractor scheduled for the next day between 1:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon. The next morning, we got a call around 8 o'clock and said could they come in. Since it was a refrigerator, they wanted to prioritize it. So, they were here by 8:15.
For $75 to get the refrigerator completely fixed was great. We were already looking to see what a new refrigerator was going to cost before the tech got here. He came early and didn't waste any time. Within five minutes, he figured out what was wrong and he was gone by 10 o'clock that morning. He had the part on his truck and he showed me what was wrong. It was a good experience. American Home Shield has been here a long time and if you go down the road next year, I feel confident that they will still be here and that makes a difference.

In February, my pool pump went out and the repair company put a rebuild in. The next day, they had to replace it because something was wrong with the rebuild that was put in. It lasted till June, where a part of it broke, and they replaced that. What they put in was substandard because it wasn't new, and I had to pay a second $100 fee when they came out. They said they only guarantee the motor for 30 days, which a motor should last for years, but this was a rebuild. That went out in July, and it took me several hours on the phone to have a brand new motor put in there. I finally got my results that I needed, but it was frustrating what I had to do.
I've had claims for other things as well. American Home Shield wouldn't cover my air conditioning because they said it was missing a part, but it was how it was put in. I had to take care of that myself. When I've put in claims on appliances though, they've come out, fixed it, and it's been no problem. I've had a different company, and they were awesome. It's just that American Home Shield covers my appliances, and I like that. It's better and more affordable than getting an extended warranty on each of my appliances.

American Home Shield raised my prices after the first year and I did not appreciate that. Also, it takes forever to get ahold of somebody. But once I do, they're fairly efficient to take care of things. Although, if there is a glitch in the program and you ask to talk to a supervisor, they will not let you talk to a supervisor until you absolutely insist. The people that answer the phone are trained to read these stock scripts about how to handle things and when it’s anything outside of that perimeter, they have no authority to do anything and they handle it in a very evasive way. But AHS has fixed our refrigerator and replaced our hot water heater. This last time, they fixed the air conditioner. I really liked Rick from Iceman Cooling and Heating who came out for that. In the case of refrigerator, they ordered the parts, and it's just going in circles. They're saying it's a vague time of 10 weeks. I was hoping that they will resolve or payout, which hasn't happened. They can improve on when they know that an item is not going to be solvable, they need to come to a resolution quicker. Either they pay it out or kind of respond back saying, “We cannot fix it,” so that we can move on. I've seen that even with the microwave. It would continue to run but would not ever reach 76. The tech was good and he said to call him back if I had any problems at all. He’d come back and take a look at it and see what's going on. He seemed to think that it might be the thermostat. But I've been having this problem for at least the last five years. I kept having repairmen coming out, checking on it, working on it and paying for parts, and nothing.
My electric bill was just increasing. The tech came out earlier this month. The first time he came out, my electric bill went from 154 to 230. Usually in the summertime, my bill does not go over 200. It’s only the two of us here. In some instances, even though I might have plumbing, it's cheaper to call a repairman on my own instead of calling American Home Shield. I had some issues when it comes to my dishwasher. It really needs to be replaced, but American Home Shield is not going to replace it. We've had three companies come out, look at it and try to repair it. The last company said[, "Oh, it's just a buildup of sediment type stuff. And this should clear it out. Run it with this, and it will be fine." But it's still doing the same thing. We don't feel comfortable or confident about running the dishwasher to clean our dishes. So I just got to the point where I was like, "You know what? I'm not gonna fight with you guys anymore. When I'm able to afford to, I'll just buy a new dishwasher and call it a day."
After the first company didn't repair it, I was like, "It's still not working properly." AHS wanted to send the same company back out. And I requested that they send a different company, but they told me, "Well, if we send a different company, then you're gonna have to give another copay." That infuriated me. And they said, "Well, it’s in the contract on such and such page." And I was like, "Well, who would think that you would even have that kind of problem?" Okay, I went ahead and paid it. You know how you just get, "Okay. I'm not going to get a resolution. I'm tired of fighting and get my blood pressure raised for this.
It has been my experience. And other people that I know that they will do anything they can to not have to replace it. But the contract says that if they can't get it to work properly then they will replace it. So I'm beginning to look at this as, let's see if they can be repaired, if it can't and it needs to be replaced, then I'm just stuck because they're not going to replace it. But outside of that, American Home Shield's service has been okay. The last few contractors I've had have done great work. They generally do well. It's just kind of the same thing. Most of the contractors are upfront with me, like, the last contractor with the dishwasher said, "Yeah. It should be replaced, but they're not gonna replace it."
The AC stopped working. It was still running, but it wasn't cooling. I have a contract with United Air Temp where they come out two or three times a year and check my AC unit. So I know that eventually I'm going to need to replace the HVAC system itself because it's getting older. But because I have a contract with them, I knew they would be straight up with me about what I needed. So, it was a quick fix. If you bought brand new construction, hold off. Because you're not going to need AHS. You've got the warranties. But if you bought an older home, go ahead. And your appliances are older, your HVAC is older, go ahead and get AHS, but understand that it's gonna have its limitations.

So, I went and got a replacement that was the same model as the old one the next day. For the most part, the techs are able to fix things. When they're not, AHS is really fair about replacing. Not too long ago, our washing machine broke and AHS was also able to fix it even though it's a dinosaur. AHS is awesome and I love it.

They explained to me everything they were gonna do and what they were doing. They fixed the problem and put everything back the way it was supposed to be, and went on their way.
When I submitted the claim, it was very easy to get through the website and do everything we need to do. Then AHS said the contractor that was going to come out and that they would call me to schedule a time, and they did. It’s about the third or fourth time I've used Bay to Bay Appliance Repair and the guys fixed everything. I'm happy. The process with AHS is a little cumbersome but this time was the smoothest of them all. I had a dishwasher that was coding, a dryer that wasn't heating and a washing machine that was making a terrible noise when it was in the wash cycle. They came out and fixed the washing machine immediately. A screw had come out and slipped off a gear. As soon as they put it back, it worked. For the dishwasher, they went through and went through a whole diagnostic thing. When they were finished, it worked. For, the dryer, they had to order a part. They came back in three days with the part and put it in. I've had experiences where it's taken them two weeks but overall Bay to Bay Appliance Repair has been good.

I've used American Home Shield three times now and it's been great. So I'll continue to use them. My only issue is that the gentleman had quoted me a different price than what I'm being charged. But other than that, everything else is good. I have Shields Plumbing coming back out tomorrow because the guy pulled a half horsepower garbage disposal out and he tried to put a third horsepower in. So I called them and they're bringing the equal product out to me. But as far as AHS, everything's great. They did a great job.
Every time I've called American Home Shield, I've had someone out. But with this last time I called, I wasn't aware that I was supposed to schedule an appointment. With my dryer, they had somebody schedule and call me and say, "Hey, we're coming out this day and this day." But this last time I waited for a few days. But I understood they have a lot of people who are having air conditioning problems. Then, the tech came out and got it fixed right away, which was great.
But I filed a claim yesterday for a water leak that I have under my kitchen sink and I haven't heard a word from anybody yet. I called them and left a message but they haven't called me back. I have water pouring out of the garbage disposal under my kitchen sink. I'm not very happy with that. When Maritime Plumbing came, that man was absolutely wonderful. He came out quickly, fixed my problem, offered me assistance if I had any problems in the future. That went very well. Same thing when my dryer went up. On that one, they had to order parts. But it got resolved quickly. The biggest thing was with the refrigerator. We ended up having to go and rent a refrigerator from Rent-A-Center so we had a place to have to store food.
American Home Shield replaced my refrigerator and the whole nine yards. I didn't have to lay out $2,200 on the new refrigerator. But it took them almost a month to get me a new refrigerator and three different contractors. They hired one guy. I waited 24 hours and they were over an hour from my house and said, “We're not coming to you.” Then AHS assigned a second contractor. Waited two days. But they didn't show up.
Finally, they got Terrapin Appliance. He showed up with no tools. He borrowed our tools to repair the project. He was late for a scheduled timeout. He said ‘cause he fell asleep. He was very unprofessional. I also came to find out that they were not licensed. They were not insured. They were a fly-by-night company. They ended up closing their doors two weeks after they came into my house. They damaged my house, my water lines and floors, which caused me to have to lay out money for a plumber out of pocket that American Home Shield would not reimburse me for. It was an absolute headache and a disaster.
I made so many phone calls to American Home Shield. It was supposed to be escalated so many times that I would get a phone call back. Never once had a phone call back. It was absolutely ridiculous. We went without water for three days, waiting for a plumber to get in. Just a mess. American Home Shield’s a great thing to have. It's something you need to have if they need to lay out $2,200. But the headache you gotta go through to get something done doesn't make it worth it sometimes.
Are you still in need of assistance?

He was great, and if something else was wrong in my house, I would definitely love to have his company come back out. I'm thrilled with American Home Shield. It's been convenient for me, because I just call and within a short amount of time, someone calls me back and sets up the appointment. I called one time and the automated system tried to go ahead and take my money, even though I needed to talk to someone. It was very difficult to get hold of a person because the automated system immediately is programmed to take the deposit. That's the only problem I had though.
With a home warranty, you know how much something is gonna cost you. There are no extra charges or disappointments that, “Oh, gee, I can't afford that.” You pay the amount of money, they come out, and they fix it if they can. If they can't fix it, then they will help you get a new appliance and you can't beat that. I've recommended American Home Shield to several people.

It needs to be a little more clear-cut what's covered and what's not with AHS. When my stovetop cracked and one of the switches went bad, AHS said that they weren't going to cover that. They said it was structural. It is a top to the stove, but it's a glass piece that everything sits on. The heat always passes through there. If it overheats and it goes through the stovetop, there's nothing I can do about it. It's not like I dropped a pan on it and it cracked.
Luckily, GE covered it themselves, so that got taken care of. But, for the HVAC stuff, my unit needed a condensation pump. And because they didn't have it already on there, they said they weren't gonna cover. All of a sudden, I got a $500 bill and they covered the $12 switch. It’s pretty much what they covered. Those things need to be disclosed upfront, that, “When we talk about structural, we're talking about that glass top that you're probably going to have an issue with.”
Also, getting hold of a manager with AHS is almost impossible. Every time I talk to somebody, “I can't get you a manager. I have to put in this ticket to get this and then somebody may call you.” And it takes them two weeks to call you back. I've filed a Better Business Bureau claim for that. But with my recent claim with the sink, the tech came in quick and fixed it. He was in and out. He did a great job and was really nice. He was very responsive. He got back to me the next day and he was here that next day. I was very satisfied with that claim.

I forgot to. So, I paid for it out of pocket and it was $250. So, some things are obviously bigger ticket items, and this turned out to be a small ticket item. We hadn't had anyone come to our house since March of 2020. During that time, we started having problems with the dryer and the dishwasher and the microwave quit. The oven kind of went on the fritz. Antonio fixed everything.
Having American Home Shield is worth it. Even though the premiums are around $900 a year now, usually, in the long run, the coverage has proved worthwhile because it's paid for several big ticket repairs. There was one experience we had that still, to this day, I'm upset about. When I tried to talk to someone at American Home Shield about the company and about what they had done and asked to have another company assigned, they refused to let me speak to a supervisor and would not assign another company. What happened was our refrigerator quit. We had a guy come in, and he just gave it a thump and said, “Oh, this thing was stuck. It'll work fine.” We had had to throw away all the food in the refrigerator. We were having a whole house full of company that weekend.
We went out and bought all new food for company. The refrigerator quit, and it took them probably six days with repeated calls. They would not send anybody out. They didn't have anybody. I asked to speak to a supervisor or manager there, and they would hang up on me. I had a second refrigerator full of spoiled food. I had no way to cook or feed my company, so we had to go out and eat. The thing that really irritated me, though, was that I couldn't get anybody at American Home Shield to help me. Other than that, things have been pretty good.

You get sent all around the world. So it sounds like a scam to me where they're taking in money and making you jump through hoops. It's very annoying. So I'm not pleased with anything about their customer service. It's very difficult to get ahold of a human in the Americas. If you have patience and are willing to wait weeks and weeks at a time, they eventually will get out there and work on your equipment, but it takes forever to get them out there. I'm not pleased with having to wait that long. Then you can't speak to anybody that can answer a question.
I've had American Home Shield for years and they have repaired things for me. The cost is good for what you receive if you receive it. Submitting the claim is easy. Sending them the money and the cost of it is good. But trying to get customer service is horrible. American Home Shield is an insurance company, so at the end of the day, they're gonna try and patch things and fix them as quickly and cheaply as they can. I get that, so I don't fault them for that. They can't afford to repair everything with the highest quality and with the best service and still make money. At the end of the day, all they're there for is to make money.

So everything was good as far as a contractor coming out and providing recommendations. I spoke to an American Home Shield representative two days ago and he was talking about having the contractor come out and close the holes that their plumbers made. He said he was going to reach out to them and get back with me within four hours. But that was two days ago. So I have a problem with the actual follow-up action.

This tech was better than the last appliance person that came who told me I had some electrical problems. He told me he fixed the dryer but I was not supposed to use it until I got an electrician out to fix the electrical problems or it could mess up all of the wirings in the house. I put an order with American Home Shield for an electrician to come out. An electrician came and said, “This makes no sense. I don't know what he's talking about.” There were no issues with my electricity but I had to pay the copay. They wanted me to put in some type of appeal or investigation into it.
I called back the company that did the dishwasher and they told me that they just give suggestions. They don't tell customers what they have to do. That was true but the way the appliance person worded it made it seem like I had to get it done. He had no knowledge about electricity but I trusted him. He did his job and fixed my dryer but his extra suggestions were completely off. Nobody can give me my money back. The electrician just got free money to come out for pretty much nothing.
American Home Shield is a safety net for me. It’s a great resource to have when you have a home. You're buying so everything is on you. At least you can trust the home warranty to send out some reliable people sometimes. If something goes out, you don't have to really worry and strain about the financial burden of having to either replace the appliance yourself. You don't have to worry about how much technicians are gonna charge when they come out. I'm a single mom, so I don't have a male in the home to help me troubleshoot a lot of my appliances and things. I also have the ability to choose with American Home Shield. If I have a bad experience with a tech, I have the opportunity to go somewhere else and choose another provider. I love that about the home warranty.

My garage door opener was really old and I knew it was on its last legs. The tech confirmed that. The guy was very friendly, nice, and he put in a new garage door opener for me. I called AHS on Tuesday and he was here on Saturday. He had everything with him. He put in a whole new track and door opener and it's much quieter now. I'm very happy. However, when I had a problem with my oven and it kept going out, I finally called AHS and said, "Send somebody else because he's not fixing the problem." So, they sent somebody else and the guy tore the whole thing apart and said, "Yeah, you need a new thermostat." But other than that, I've been very happy with AHS.

There was a clog in the bathroom sink while in the kitchen, there was leaking underneath there. American Home Shield responded to my claim within a few hours. A little bit before the contractor's appointment, they sent a reminder of the appointment as well as a picture of who would be coming. The guy who came was professional and did a good job. It was just we were told that regarding the issue we have in the bathroom, a drain cleaning person should do it. It's been a reoccurring issue for a while now. Maybe it was just something that the contractor didn’t do. We got guys that are coming on Friday. That aside, I've had a good experience.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point.
We look forward to servicing you in the future as needed. Take Care.

The AC inside air handler thing was freezing up. It was the whole inside and the unit would not blow air the right way. I put in a claim on Friday night. I called in and did the automated thing that recognized my phone number hooked into my American Home Shield account. I told them there was an issue. I didn't expect to hear from the service people on Saturday or Sunday. But when they did not call me by nine o'clock Monday morning, I called them and I told them that something was wrong with the blower inside because it was cutting on. It wasn't doing anything and was making a really bad sound. They sent somebody out the next day, Tuesday.
The tech that came was very friendly. He was younger and not as knowledgeable because he was in and out in less than 20. He replaced something but he was not able to fix the issue. An hour after he left, the unit didn't work again. I had marked the claim complete after the first visit so I had to call American Home Shield back. The lady I spoke with was friendly. When I did the automated process, I was able to get my credit card number right then. It was pretty easy.
A second tech came out and he found out what the real problem was. This tech was phenomenal. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and really took his time. He was there for a couple of hours. He took the unit all apart and checked. It's 100 degrees here right now. He was trying to do a workaround at least to keep the air going. Unfortunately, that workaround didn’t work. But he knew that a part had to be ordered. The service people had to order that. They also said to leave the unit on. Thank God we decided to turn it off because if we left it on, it would have caught fire.
The piece that was needed was something to make the motor go around a circle in a cage and that makes the blower motor blow. They thought originally it was just an issue with the blower fan or the capacitator but it was neither one of those. They gave us pictures and that part has been fine. My AC unit is not fixed yet and it has been a week. But it's nobody’s fault.

I had a water leak in the shower. The plumber said he was gonna be here between 1:00 and 5:00. He arrived here at 4:45 or 4:00 CST. Other than that, he did a really good job and was very professional. He was able to fix the problem right there and then. American Home Shield's claim process was simple but if you have a plumbing issue or leak, there is no way for you to put a description so the repair people would know exactly what the issue is. I've called before and when the repair people got here, they didn't have the part.
If American Home Shield would have had an area to put what's going on, then the repair people would probably be here with the part instead of having to wait. American Home Shield can either add notes to the claim or put better drop-down boxes with more options. Also, the stove was not included in my coverage and that was pretty disappointing because I had an issue with the appliance. If I had known that, I would have looked for something that had a stove included in the service.

I had a drainage stoppage outside that was coming up through the driveway. I got a very professional tech who threw a snake and worked on it for a few attempts until it finally unclogged. I was very glad and content with the job. I tried to put a claim in with American Home Shield two years ago for my garage door and they said something about pre-existing damages. That was weak and I ended up fixing that problem myself. That aside, American Home Shield hasn't let me down yet.
