I have the GE Monogram refrigerator. I noticed that my icemaker and where the filtered water comes through had just stopped working and making loud sounds. I had called GE first and I kind of thought, “I have home warranty. Let me just try and figure it out.” So, I ended up calling American Home Shield and getting everything on schedule. I did request for GE because my refrigerator was over $10,000. I didn't want someone just come and try to figure it out. I wanted someone that specifically worked on those refrigerators.
The technician that came out was very professional and quick. He kept me up-to-date because the parts that were needed were on backorder. GE kept in touch with me to let me know, “Hey, it’s still on backorder. We'll call you to schedule an appointment.” They sent the part to me so that I would know when it came in. Once I had the part, they escalated an appointment, and the gentleman was out the next week. Within the first year when I had warranty, there was something that went wrong with my filters and it was the same guy that came. So he was like, “Hey, I was here four or five years ago.” That was a really good experience. When I reached out to GE for the refrigerator, it's $99 to come out each time and there's a cost for the part, and there's a labor cost involved. I've got more for my buck using the home warranty.
I have another ticket in for my home warranty, and that's not going so well. I also have two freestanding icemakers. I have one that's in my entertainment room. I called American Home Shield back in April. And I don't like dealing at all with one of the companies that they were going to send out because they don't stand on their word. They say they're coming out, I stay home on the allotted timeframe, and no one comes. They lie and say, “Hey, the guy said he came to your house and you didn’t answer.” I said, “How was that? I’m at home. I work from home, so I know you're lying. I didn’t go anywhere. And number two, I'm in a gated community. So in order for him to even get in, he would have had to contact me.” They were like, “Well, we have to go on his word, not yours.” So, they wouldn't reschedule an appointment until a month later.
I didn't want to deal with that company because I saw how they operated. So, I got another company, Mr. Appliance. The parts were on backorder and I keep calling, “Oh, we're gonna have a manager check it out.” But I still have nothing. It's been since April, and I still don't have the freestanding icemaker fixed. Other than that, I’ve recommended individuals to American Home Shield, but my mom had to go to an alternative method because her experience was different.

The technician who came out for an AC repair is so good, and I like to keep that one. I hope every time I call American Home Shield, they're gonna give him to me. I like that company, too, because when I call them, they come right away not like the other one who were telling me, “OH, that's how. You pay it.” So, we suffered for three weeks. We didn't have air conditioning, and my mom is sick. I'm so worried. We kept calling them, but, “Oh, we still order the materials we put on it, so you have to wait.”

Everything went smoothly with my recent claim with AHS. The tech came a couple of days later. He looked at our pool sand filter that was busted and he told me there was nothing they can save. It needs to be a new one. He said he was gonna get the approval from AHS. He would order it. Then as soon as it arrived, he was going to give me a call and would come by and then put it in. It was a week turnaround time, which was awesome. He was very professional, cleaned up afterward and it was very nice. This year, I also had my dishwasher broken. They came out and fixed the dishwasher, but I waited two months for the parts to come in, which I was not happy about. But with my microwave and oven, everything went smoothly.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together.

My AC unit went completely out. The techs assessed it really quickly and the only issue was that it took a long time to get the part. Always get a home warranty even if it's just for the AC and heating system.

The blower motor of an HVAC unit that we replaced two years ago went out. We called American Home Shield and set up an appointment. The contractor came out the next day and ordered a part. Unfortunately, it was Friday when the order was made so the part didn't come in until Tuesday. But as soon as it came in, someone came in, replaced it, and we were back in business. So far, we've used our home warranty five times. We used it for both HVAC units, upstairs and downstairs. We also had a plumbing issue a couple of months back. A few years ago, we had an issue with our oven.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

The tech came and changed the light bulb in the refrigerator. The refrigerator is fine. Then he had to come back and fix my dishwasher. But it is still leaking, so he is going to come back out on Saturday and fix it again. The claims process at AHS is okay. But the problem is the representative. I can't understand their accent and they talk too fast. So I get frustrated and ask for a supervisor. The reps either tell me, "No," or "Well, the supervisor have to call you back." So they get a supervisor call me back. There was one supervisor that didn't call me back. I had to call multiple times and then I finally got in contact with a supervisor.
I've been with AHS since 2010 and they take care of my home and my rental property. When the contractors went to my house, they fixed my appliances. They come back until they fix it. So that's perfect. If they can't fix the appliances, then I can request for a second opinion. When the second opinion happens, they fix it perfectly. So the contractors are fine. But it's hard to deal with customer service. They're not knowledgeable. You ask them questions and they're reading off a piece of paper.

We have two ACs, upstairs and downstairs, and we reported both ACs not working. American Home Shield replaced the one downstairs with a new AC but it cost me so much money. I was expecting they would take at least cover half of the share. But I was shown the contract terms are such that they didn’t take at least half of it. Also, the upstairs unit is still not working. I would have at least expected both upstairs and downstairs to be fully functional. The contractor said it needs the coils cleaned but it’s something like 1,600 which is a big chunk of money. This will come out of my pocket again. So, expenses-wise, it’s too much. I can understand American Home Shield won’t cover maintenance but if the unit is for replacement, they should cover half of the cost. I’m paying them every month a coverage fee and on top of it, I’m paying $100 when a tech comes out.

Overall, I've been satisfied with American Home Shield. Recently, a plumber came and he was very helpful. However, I don't think he fixed the problem. Whenever I would dump water in my sink, it's backing up into my bathroom tub. He used a snake that didn't work. So, what he did was he used something that he poured down the sink. Then he ran the water and it did seem like it worked. But a day or two later, it started back up. The only thing he told me was that the people that lived here before I bought the home may have been pouring grease down the sink. I may need to have something called jetting done.

We called in an AC problem and I gave the contractor, Greenway Services, my number several times to call me back because my husband is a pilot. But the lady at Greenway Services, Maureen, called my husband back and she got my husband one day when he was really busy. He didn't quite understand what she was saying and they scheduled an appointment three weeks later. The heat was terrible and the air conditioning was out. After about a week and a half, I called to ask why the appointment was so far out and I came to find out that they were trying to send somebody to get a whole new unit instead of fixing it, which is not what we wanted.
They finally called me back and I said we needed the unit repaired immediately so they scheduled somebody two weeks further out to come and look at it. They came but the unit has some components of a heat pump and they were saying its air handler needed to be replaced. I had American Home Shield get a second opinion, which they never charged us for. The second guy that came was awesome. But about two weeks later, the unit went out again. He had not tightened up one of the little covers on the line with Freon and all the Freon came out. But they did their job and the unit got fixed.
We could have gotten it fixed two or three weeks sooner had Greenway not tried to upsell us. Maureen seems like a really nice lady but I didn't feel that they should have been trying to do what they were doing. Other than that, I've had Greenway Services multiple times and they've done a great job. Also, everybody I got at American Home Shield was great.

The recent experience on the turnaround time with AHS was poor. The whole claim for our dishwasher took four weeks, between parts and servicing. I'm assuming it’s COVID-related and nobody can find resources. But this was the first time we had an issue. AHS just needs to figure out a way to get the needed staffing to be able to respond quicker. This is a dishwasher. It isn't really critical. But if it's winter and you have your heater down, that's a bit of a problem.

The experience with our recent claim with AHS was great. The technician was good. He explained what was wrong. The vents were not open. I like it.

I pick up the phone and have a laboriously long call whenever I have a claim. American Home Shield has offshore groups of people who sound very young and don't know anything. The middle management in American Home Shield is woefully lacking. Customer service has well-intended people you can launch complaints to when the service isn’t right. They say they are gonna talk with their field manager and they will reach back out but they never do. I go back a month later and it’s reported that they have my comments, but nobody ever follows up.
The people sent out are outside contractors and are different from American Home Shield. I haven’t met one who came and didn't try to do a good job. The weak links lie within American Home Shield. It's a management issue. They should modify their follow-up and management. They seem to have more people flying around but nobody takes responsibility. It’s a business practice failure.
The only time I have ever gotten any response was when I called and waited an incessantly long time and finally got somebody who was willing to take responsibility. Most people take the phone, take messages, and just pass it off. They have no ownership. If American Home Shield's structure is such, then the only people that can have responsibility and ownership are supervisors and managers who are dedicated to oversight. The home warranty has a woefully shoddy service.
I used my American Home Shield and I had the best people they ever sent out, which was Priority. They solved two issues that were unsolvable by others that were sent out by the home warranty. The last claim had to do with the repair of an icemaker in our refrigerator. One after another, well-intended people came out and kept doing the same thing over and over again. When people from Priority came out, the tech looked at it, listened, and said, he knew what the issue was. He did his homework in advance. He checked with the manufacturer, which was LG, and from the beginning was lightyears ahead of everybody else. Priority did that with two appliances. I can't extol their virtues more.

The first time I used American Home Shield, I had some issues with the redundancy. I had to give the same information at least three-plus times. I was on the phone and then did a video call. I was on there for almost an hour just to say what was going on with my stove. And then the contractors called me, and I gave them the exact same information because it wasn't transferred over. That was obnoxious. But after that, everything else has been smooth so far. I've only had to call one other time for an air conditioner issue. Everything was fine with the tech. It ended up just being something incredibly simple. And I felt a little embarrassed after he showed me how simple it was.

When I had a few things happening at the property, American Home Shield's response was okay. But we've recently had a real bad situation involving my water heater. A pipe broke first and water was all over the walls and ceiling. There were some furniture and baby clothes stored in the garage. Everything was saturated. I called in the work order and it was put on to be expedited. American Home Shield sent me the information of the contractor that was assigned on a Saturday afternoon. I did give instructions for the plumber to please call the number for my daughter because she was currently at the residence when it happened. I'm currently out of state. But I did not hear anything until Monday afternoon.
I assumed that the contractor contacted my daughter and they had been out there. She didn't call me so I assumed everything was going accordingly. I learned that my daughter had to shut off the main water because she could not access the valve on the water heater because it was hot water squirting out initially. I instructed her to shut off the power to the water heater. So she did that. When the contractor called me on Monday afternoon, I thought they were calling me to let me know how the repair went and everything was back on track. The young lady that I talked to said, “Oh, we're calling you. We're trying to see when they can come out to take care of your water heater.” I said, “What do you mean? That's supposed to have been happening since Saturday.”
The lady couldn't even coordinate the name with the address properly. I told her it was an expedited job order. She said, “Oh, what was your address again?” So I called my daughter and she said yes, she had called the contractor twice and nobody responded. I initially called to leave a voicemail again reiterating that this was urgent and for them to call my daughter. But all we got was voicemail. My daughter's father came late Sunday night because she had no water in the house. He replaced the pipe so she could turn the main water on. I told my daughter that he has to undo that before the plumber comes because it was going to possibly unwarrant my insurance. But under the circumstances, I understood why he did it.
The contractor called my daughter an hour after they talked to me, and scheduled an appointment for Tuesday afternoon between 3:00 and 5:00. I talked to my daughter and told her to get her dad to take out what he replaced and leave the old pipe there. But her dad did not do that. He talked to the plumber who didn't show up until six that evening. There was no sense of urgency. Her father showed the plumber the broken pipe and everything was still completely saturated with water. Part of the ceiling had fallen down. The boxes with the clothes and the furniture were still wet. The plumber said, “Oh, okay. Well, everything's good here.” So he left and I heard nothing.
When I called American Home Shield, they said there was no report. So I told them the whole story and asked them what was going to happen about the walls, the ceiling and the damage to the furniture. They took me around and around on hold, and then we got disconnected. Then I had to start the whole process over. I was on the phone for three days. One day, I was on the phone from 8:00 in the morning till 3:00 in the afternoon. I almost lost my mind.
American Home Shield said that furniture would have not been covered under them regardless. But the plumber did not follow up on the work order as instructed and then they put me through some kind of conflict resolution team. I got on the phone with this young lady and she talked to me for about five minutes. Then she asked me the same questions. I gave her the entire story. She took notes. She confirmed everything and that it was in the work order and the plumber didn't show up. They didn't even have his work order. So she pulled it and finally, they had made a demand that he was going to send it. They gave him a time limit.
I learned that the plumber was supposed to have responded within four hours of the initial work order. They sent him an email. But American Home Shield is not going to be able to cover the secondary damage because the plumber’s report said that there was no leak in the water heater. I have absolutely no compensation for all of the damage in the Sheetrock and the walls, and furniture. We are now growing mold in the walls and we have a child at the residence with asthma. American Home Shield was polite in conversation, but nothing changed. So I'm extremely dissatisfied with how this was managed.
I had to hire someone and pay out of my own pocket to get the walls down and treated for mold and replaced. I also took the loss of a couch set and the table was almost brand new. My daughter couldn't even wash the baby clothes and put them in the dryer because she had no water for that initial time. Those were nice clothes. I took a loss of about $4,000 in furniture and repairs.
This experience really left a really bad taste in my mouth. There was no consideration toward the customer at all. I'm an extremely patient and reasonable person but when I was dealing with the sixth customer service person who insisted he could not connect me to the agent that was already trying to work out a resolution, I lost it. It was ridiculous. I've been hung up and running the circle of wait and wait, and I have to keep redialing in and they put you on this automatic system. Each time you get another customer service representative, they just go through the motion and read off the script. They said, “Oh, well, we have to connect you to a different department, but there is no direct number.” They have it set up to a point where the customer is going to get discouraged, frustrated, upset and just give up.
There should be some point in American Home Shield's call system where you can directly dial to people, or at worse, where they will contact you once you have set up a work order. I have since communicated with another insurance company that has exactly that setup. They have called me three times and they explained to me what would be covered. They have better coverage and customer service. They gave me a better rate of $65. I was paying American Home Shield between $100 and $125 right off the jump. Before you could even place the work order, they already charge you.
When our AC was not operating properly and I had to use American Home Shield, the air conditioning technician responded within three hours and it wasn't even on an expedited term. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He took care of the business and we were very satisfied with him. But as far as American Home Shield itself, I will not use them anymore. I'm at the end of my term in August and I'm not looking to renew. After 20 years of being a customer, that’s a sad statement to have to make.
Ines,

MJ Appliance was excellent. They were very timely and they accommodated my schedule. They had great communication. They were very professional and cleaned up after their work. They worked on my machine that stopped filling with water. They determined that for the newer Whirlpool Cabrio, there are three intake valves and when one of them goes out, all three of them go out. So, the part was ordered through American Home Shield, and when it arrived, they came in, they installed it, tested the washer, and it's now working beautifully.

So far, everything's been good except for one company that we dealt with for our washer. It was Accord Appliances. Number one, we can never make an appointment with them or get anybody on the phone. Anytime that we try to attempt to call them, it's over an hour wait long. Number two, we have an error on our washing machine and the first person that came out said, “Oh, it could be these two parts.” He went ahead and ordered those two parts. I called a couple days later and said, “Hey, I'm just following up. You guys ordered the parts. Can we make the appointment for you guys to come and install the part?” The guy on the phone said, “That guy doesn’t know what he's doing. Let me send out the expert.” He said, “It could be a loose wire.” Fine.
With the second appointment, Roman came out and he was supposed to be the expert guy. He said that the problem could be several things, that it’s more expensive to fix the issue than the washer’s worth. Very doubtful on fixing the machine. I called again to make another appointment saying, “Well, now what?" The guy said, “We’ll sent somebody else out.” An agitator was ordered and a guy named Oscar came and replaced it. However, he didn't do a full cycle so we didn't know 100% that it was gonna work. As soon as Oscar left, my husband put a load in and we still got the same error code.
I tried to email the company and send them a video. “Hey, your guy just left and this is what it's doing.” They haven't responded to the email that I sent them. I'm trying to get ahold of American Home Shield to know what's going on, too. ‘Cause the right hand’s not talking to the left hand. The guy came out again and said, “Oh, it's the agitator again. We can order another one.” “You know what? Forget it. I don't think you guys know what's going on with this machine.” They came out four times and they couldn't fix it on those four tries, so I have no faith in the company. If you go on Yelp, they have very bad reviews. A lot of customers were complaining the same thing that I’m complaining with the company, so I would not recommend Accord Appliances for one of American Home Shield's services.
Accord Appliances is the only problem that we've had. If you called them right now, good luck on trying to talk to somebody. They're low-staffed. They said, “Okay, let me get back and let me try to get ahold of the worker.” It took forever for them to even close up the work order, which I don't even know if they closed it up yet. I'm still waiting to see what's going to happen with our washer.

The AC in my mother's house wouldn't cool, and the repair man from Austin Heating came out on Friday. He went up on the roof and said that he fixed it and to give it a few hours to start to cool the house off. It cooled it and my mother left the house then got back at 6 o'clock and it was comfortable in there. It was in the high 70s, but the next morning, my mother called me. It was back up to 86, 87.
I tried to get on the internet, but what I ended up doing was scheduling another appointment. I got ahold of somebody at American Home Shield and told her what I'd done and what was going on. She tried to straighten it out, but I still got a call from another air conditioning company on Sunday that said they were going to come out. I said, “Wait, there's confusion on my part. I think Austin was supposed to come back out. They were out there originally. And I think they need to come back out. Don't want you to come out.” The lady said they normally don't do that ‘cause they don't want to interfere with what somebody else started, so they never came out.
Austin Heating came out yesterday and I met the repair man at my mother's house. He said the unit was completely out of gas, so I asked him if he could fix it. He said, "Those repairs are costly, and sometimes you can and sometimes you can't." He said their recommendation is to replace the unit, and I said, “If it can be fixed, I'd like for it to be fixed. I don't want to replace it if we don't have to.” I called American Home Shield and I got to talk to somebody in the Philippines. The guy was nice, but I couldn't understand him. I'm hard of hearing anyway. I don't know how many times I had him repeat what he was saying and he tried to talk louder, but we didn't communicate very well.
I called Austin Heating and said, “Hey, have you heard anything?” They said they just got an okay to replace the unit, but they didn't cover a whole lot. They sent me a list of things that American Home Shield doesn't cover, and I said, “If they’ll replace the unit, I'll go ahead and pay this out of pocket, but I'd like to get it done now.” We've had 14 days of over 100 degrees here and it's not letting up. Today, it's going to be 104 degrees, and my mother's 99 years old. She's staying with me right now, but that’s her house. Overall, I would still recommend American Home Shield ‘cause I've had experience before and it always turned out well. The last one was at my house on a refrigerator. It took four weeks for the repair man to finally fix it. In the meantime, I needed another refrigerator, so I went ahead and bought one. Now, I have an extra.

World Class AC was great in the beginning. They came and we thought the problem was resolved. But there was a leak and it caused significant damage to other areas in the house. The ceiling that is in the room directly beneath the air conditioner was taken apart and That was when it was discovered that there was still leaking. It turned out that there was a pipe that carried the coolant that was not insulated. The condensation had nowhere to go so it kept dripping. It appeared to be another leak but it wasn't.
I kept calling World Class AC and left messages. They initially told me to get a hold of them if there was a continued problem with the same issue. But when I did, there was no response. I called Home Shield and they took care of the issue really quickly. They contacted World Class AC and had them come back out. Technicians came out today and they insulated the pipe properly to stop the leak.
Home Shield's service turned out to be more than beneficial because there was no way for the tech to know that the problem existed underneath without taking apart the ceiling below the floor. The service became cost-effective because had the problem continued, the AC company would have been the ones that had to tear apart underneath and fix that problem and it would have been a lot more.
This was a bittersweet moment because it cost me more initially. I did some research and found out that such a service would have just cost me $90 as opposed to the 125 that I paid Home Shield. But the potential that existed was far greater than I would have been wanting to handle on my own. All the times that I needed Home Shield, they were very quick to respond and had service taken care of. If there was an issue arising with the contractor, I would call the home warranty and they always took care of it. They made sure that I got the service that I needed in a timely fashion. It has worked out pretty well.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point.

We had an issue with our water heater. So, we ordered a new one. The contractor just came to put it in. Because we had checked it back in January. We called them back. I've talked to American Home Shield, and they told me to just go in and put in an order for the plumbing. The tech did a great job. Everything's working fine.
A benefit is the peace of mind more so than anything. The guy that had the house was very meticulous about keeping it and I’ve tried to be same way. But the AC unit that they have is 21 years old. So I know that at some point, it would probably go out and it would go while I live here. So it definitely makes sense to have that because we would have to replace both the inside and the outside. And that's going to be a lot of money. It would be cheaper to just pay for home warranty every month or every year, however we do it, than to pay that out-of-pocket. AHS has taken care of us.

When our AC went out, I put a claim in with American Home Shield and got a call from Jungle Cat the very next morning. They were able to get me scheduled and they got out very timely. They came out twice. The first time, the blower motor went out and they tried to see if it was a capacitor ‘cause that's a common occurrence. However, they found out that that wasn't the issue. The motor burned up, and they replaced that. The system worked for a week then it quit blowing again. I looked at the main unit outside, and there was considerable ice buildup on the unit. Having been around air conditioners myself, I knew that there was a problem with either the airflow over the exchanger or the amount of refrigerant that was in the system.
When Jungle Cat was scheduled to come out the second time, the technician got hung up in a different town. They could have rescheduled me, but the owner came over, checked things out and got things moving for me. He said that there was definitely a leak in the system and told me that it would take at least five pounds of refrigerant. This being an older system, it had the older refrigerant in it and it was very costly. It would cost well over $1,000 out of my pocket to put the refrigerant in. He said he would also be putting some stop leak in it and hope to get that to stop leaking. That was an awful lot of money to put into a system that was over 20 years old. I talked with him, and I talked with a buddy of mine who does refrigeration work.
My buddy suggested that I just get a new system instead of trying to band aid this old system. He said, “You don’t know if the stop leak is gonna work effectively. You may put $1,000 into it and then, in a short amount of time, it's leaking again, and you’re throwing away the $1,000.” We had Jungle Cat replace the unit with a new system and it’s running great. It's very nice to have cool air again. I can also tell that this air conditioning system is very much more efficient. It's not running as much as it was with the old system. All in all, Jungle Cat worked very well with us and I'm very pleased with them.

We couldn't get the house cooler than anything below 80 that was why I made the phone call to American Home Shield. They gave me South Placer AC that said it would be a week before they could get out. I told them I have a disabled grandson who lives with me and couldn't go that long with no AC. That was when I called American Home Shield back and they got me this company who was out the next day. I really appreciate this company doing that and helping me with the issue. When the guy came out, he asked to see the unit so I showed it to him. He asked me when was the last time I changed the filter. I told him I didn't know I was supposed to. It had never been changed in two years.
He took it out and we took it in the backyard. He hosed it down and it started to gum up. He told me I needed a new filter. He was explaining to me how each year, I need to spray it down with the hose and clean it 'cause it gets clogged, which I didn't know. He cleaned it all out for me and told me to go Home Depot or Lowe's to get a filter because we couldn't put that one back in. It was too bad. As he was doing things, he was explaining to me what he was doing, why he was doing it, and how I could get my AC to work better. After he left, I went to Home Depot and got a new filter. I turned the AC back on and it's worked beautifully ever since. This is the first time we've had to use American Home Shield and to pay $75 for somebody to come out is better than paying hundreds of dollars.

Sometimes, it takes too long to talk to somebody by calling American Home Shield, so I did my second request online. I initially had another claim with regards to plumbing and Sigmond completely fixed everything the first time. This was completely independent of what my second issue was, but when I went in to do the online request, it defaulted to the original because their system thought it was the same plumbing issue. There should be a little more options on the website. I wasn't able to pay the $75 at that moment because it was a different claim.
My second request was for our kitchen sink faucet that was defective and started spraying water everywhere. We also had some stoppage issues in the master bathroom, one of the vanities. I purchased a new faucet for the kitchen, and Sigmond installed it after they removed the old one. The new one works great. They were also able to remove the stoppage and put in some new piping underneath the sink in the master vanity, so it's working now, too. Overall, the policy covered what it should cover, so I was happy with that, and in terms of quality, American Home Shield has very good staff. I was really happy with their vendors. I would personally refer the plumbing company to other people.

The wires had worn down to the point of tearing. So there was no way to actually get power to it. C And R came out. They replaced all the wires so they were able to get power to it. Then, once they got power to it, it started to fill up the drain. There was some leakage that occurred off the side of the drain through some of the pumps. So then they fixed the pumps and fixed the leaks. They did a great job.
The first time the repair people that came out, the repairs were rejected. They said, "Well, this isn't a natural wear and tear," when it was literally the wearing and tearing of the wire is on the outside of the machine. So they tried to push away responsibility on the fixes. So American Home Shield had to send out another company which was C And R to get a second opinion on it. But C and R took care of it.
You pay for the $100 fee for the service technician to come out. And then from that point, AHS has pretty much taken care of the payments to the companies for the work that have been done. I've used AHS now on three different times. One of them on changing my locks. One of them the swimming pool repair. And one they sent out for furnace during winter early on, had an issue with my thermostat. They've done pretty well.

I'm really a stickler with good customer service. When I called American Home Shield, they were pleasant, helpful and not pushy. They got a good feel. Then now, everything's been professional and timely. I've had service on my refrigerator and air conditioner. The claims process was very timely, which is important when you're out of a refrigerator or out of air. They just haven't gotten back to me on the air conditioner yet, but everything's complete with the refrigerator. I have less stress having the home warranty. I don't have to call around and try to find somebody and do research and see how qualified they are. It makes things a lot easier. I understand that they contract out to different people in the area. The people that they chose are very good picks, and they're also professional. So, I am very pleased.

American Home Shield’s policy of not replacing something until it's completely failed is frustrating. We recently had our water heater serviced and we've had various plumbers come out. When I first called and the water heater was causing a leak in the wall, their system was down and they couldn't send anyone out. They said that I'll have to call back the next day. But I had an active emergency leak happening and there was no way for them to give me a phone number of someone I could call or get it stalled. I had no water all night. Then relieving the pressure made the leak stop, and so the contractor that came out could not do anything about it because it wasn't currently leaking, so he couldn't even investigate. He was going by directions from American Home Shield not to do anything if the leak wasn't actively dripping.
I had to put in a separate work order which was another $100 because then the water heater itself was dripping and for related issue. He had to come back and replace two parts on the water heater. I independently had another plumber come out because I wanted to hear a different opinion that wasn't controlled by American Home Shield. That plumber said it needed to be replaced. I feel like any minute, the water heater is gonna flood the garage, and then we'll have to put in another work order.
We also had a claim for our oven and the contractor had said that we needed a new one because they couldn't replace the parts. I had to call back five or six times and talk to AHS about it. Every time, they said they would call back or they would send it to whatever investigation process that they use. But it took us months to even get anywhere so I didn't have an oven for months. AHS should work on timeliness.

I went through the website and it was a little bit confusing. I had to go through an old email to get to it. If AHS had an app, that would be way better and I would like that. I would love American Home Shield if things could get done on a speedier process. I'm still waiting for money or a replacement faucet sink from the last service order. We've called three times and each time, they would buy the cheapest faucet. The faucet that was originally here, we could have used it. The plumber said it’s just a valve that was missing. He called the manufacturer, they would have sent it to AHS. But they put a cheap one in here that was like 75 bucks. The one we had was 400 bucks. I said, “Even if you're not gonna give me one that’s like that, I understand it was an expensive one, give me one that's 200.” But, they wouldn't. Just brought in the cheap little one that would break and then that was it.
Then right now, I've been without a water heater since Friday. I called it in on Saturday. When I talked to the technician from the plumbing company on Monday, he said, “Everything has been approved. Just call them and tell them to send us the order for the water heater. We'll come back, install it. You have $570 to pay on your end.” I called AHS and they said, “It hasn't been approved yet.” I said, “I just talked to the plumber. The plumber talked to you. He's the one that showed me the paperwork showing that it's been approved.” The rep said, “We have to go through processing. It'll be tomorrow.” Wednesday came, nothing.
I called back on both days to see what's going on. I said, “The plumber said that you can do something where I can go buy the water heater and you will pay me whatever I paid for it. How fast can that happen?" He said, “That's usually faster. I'm not gonna lie to you." He said something's happened since the storms and it seemed like all the warranty people are a little bit behind. They're taking a little bit longer. It's taking four days instead of two days. He said I got to keep calling them and asking them and let them know my situation and they will rush it.
We did the cash thing to see how much it was versus going through and waiting. Here it is now, Thursday, and I still haven't received an email yet. I'm still waiting on that and I asked about that on Tuesday. I called two people and one of them said, “The previous person started it, but they did not submit it.” And that was the second time nobody submitted it.

Our air conditioner started making noise so we turned it off so that it wouldn't blow up. We're in Fresno, California and it's 110-plus degrees here. We're also elderly people. After a couple of hours, my husband tried turning the air conditioner back on and it started working fine. We contemplated whether or not we should cancel the repair guy coming out or not. We ended up letting him go ahead and check out the air conditioner because we didn't want the problem happening again.
The guy was extremely nice and was very knowledgeable. We told him what happened and what we did. He looked at the unit and said everything looked okay. He changed the capacitor because it was rusty and was about ready to go out. He said if we had any further trouble, we were to let him know. About three days later, my husband went outside and the air conditioner was making noise again. We turned it off and let it sit for a little bit. We turned it back on and it's been working just fine. We don't know what's causing that noise but we're just waiting to see what happens.

A-US Air Conditioning of Texas came out and I was told that the unit just needed freon on the outside. The tech put some in but couldn't fix the inside. There was a water leak on the inside and it buckled my floor in the hallway. I put a fan on it trying to dry it out then two days later, another guy came and fixed it. He said, for some reason, all of a sudden, it was almost half an inch off. I've never had trouble with it before. He said the water was draining to the back, and he fixed that too.
Three days later, the air conditioner wouldn't go under 77. I shut it off thinking maybe it froze up. The guy that came the other day said that was what was happening. It was 88 degrees in this house. I'm 80 years old and have two dogs, and we were living under ceiling fans. Last Friday was the third time it happened. I called American Home Shield again and the tech came out. He found the leak in that one then checked on the inside. He said the last time that unit was replaced was 1989. He did tell me that if they did anything with that, that I would have to pay part of the upgrade. They were very young but they seem to know what they were doing. They were very courteous and explained to me what they did. The man that came out and found the leak told me that the first one that came out trained with him. But he said they didn't train like four days when they put him on his own truck. He didn't have enough experience to know what was going on but nobody does when they're first starting out so I can't fault him for that.
Sometimes, things get crazy with American Home Shield. I had a refrigerator that was brand-new that was worked on seven times before they replaced it. I just got a check and paid off my new refrigerator that I bought because I was without a refrigerator around here forever. But other than that, it may take them a time or two, but they always get me fixed up, so I can't complain.

The last time I called, the water was leaking from the bottom and the contractor said that they would come back with the pieces. The person came back with the two pieces a week after and replaced them. I’m selling my house and I‘m looking for the certificate that shows that the parts were replaced. But I couldn’t get it. I called AHS two times and I was on hold. They passed me to another person. So, I called first the company who replaced it and they said they cannot do that. One of my favorite things about American Home Shield is I can do everything online and they're usually quick about it. Our air conditioning unit went out at 10 o'clock at night. Because we're in Las Vegas, it's hot morning, noon, and night. I got online and did American Home Shield's form in the middle of the night. Within 30 minutes, they sent me the contact info for the contractor. We went ahead and called them the next morning. It took Paul, the technician, a day to come out. He came within the window that he gave us and addressed the issue within 15 minutes. He had to get parts and wasn't sure if he'd be able to make it back that day or the next day. He did message me later and said it would be the next day. The next day, he came back. We ended up having a storm, thunder, lightning so it put the work on hold for a while. But he still made it out, put the new parts in, and everything worked great. He was fantastic.
When we first bought our house, we had a different home warranty company. It was a lot harder to get the first company to perform any kind of work but with American Home Shield, it has been smooth. They've had great service. The only drawback is last year, we had air conditioning problems as well. They didn't cover the refrigerant in the AC unit and that's $100 a pound. We ended up paying $800 out of pocket for it.

For the last couple of weeks, I've been waiting for a service on my pool filter and pump. I put the call and I waited for a reply, got a reply, and there was the company that was supposed to come out. I received a call from them within a few hours of me getting an email for them to schedule or to say they were coming out. On my telephone, it showed up as another company, so I didn't understand. I went back and did some research to find out the company renamed itself. Bottom line is, I have a lawsuit with this company and they're not allowed on my property, because of a past few altercations with them. So, it was very prudent that they do not come out.
I called back, spoke to at least 14 people from American Home Shield, explained the whole situation, and went down the line. And every single one of them had the same mantra, "We're going to get a new vendor for you, we'll call back." Every single time I'm on the phone. Within an hour, I got an email and a text stating that the same company would be coming out again. Now, they're going to escalate this problem. We went through the same mantra. But at this point, until two days ago, we were doing the same thing, daily.
I'm keeping my patience and I keep going. I said, "All right, let's go." Now, we were coming to Tuesday again, I got the same email again, that they were coming out. I did the same thing. "I got a phone call from that company and it's from a different number, it's the only reason I answered, otherwise, I wouldn't have answered it." I said, "You guys aren't allowed on my property, do not come out. You come out, there's going to be an altercation. Do not come out, you cannot be on my property."
I left my house. Then when I was coming home, I saw a van with two guys, and whether they were service guys or not, they weren't. They had a look on their face, and they were coming at me a little bit. I said, "You guys need to get off my property, don't even come on at me. Please, leave now." And they started smirking, mouthing off me. I started to call the police, then they left. A few minutes after that, I got a call from, again, a different number of them saying that it was the owner. The owner was a really horrible woman taunting me, that said, "We did the service, we're going to tell American Home Shield." I looked at my email, "How would you rate the service performed today?" Not only did they not perform the service, not only did we have a complete understanding about this, not only was this supposed to be escalated, not only are we supposed to get a supervisor or somebody else to call me back, but none of that stuff also happened.
I called up again and I was trying to be patient. I talked to a lady. She was an Asian woman of some descent. This took about 45 minutes on the phone and back and forth. She was reading the notes of this company. I said, "I need to speak to somebody other than you. I don't want to minimize what your capacity is, but, we have a really big problem here." I said, "And there was almost a fight here, a physical altercation." This lady put me on hold and connected me to the company with the lady that I don't want to talk to! And now, I called back and we went back to the same fix. "I'm going to escalate this." I thought she was supposedly the supervisor I've been waiting a week to talk to.

I canceled the claim because my husband fixed the line.
I had another issue with the water line so I submitted another claim. American Home Shield contacted me saying they couldn't find anybody to go out to our place. They then gave me the authorization to find someone that I could either pay out of pocket and they could reimburse me or the service person could bill the home warranty. I found someone but it's going to be another week till he can get out here. Getting a home warranty was to prevent stuff like this. For the little stuff like the locks and the dryer, it's simple. I called American Home Shield because a big fuse blew in the AC unit. I went to the store and bought a new fuse, came home, and realized that the wires had fried in the fuse box for that. I called American Home Shield and asked, "Do we call an AC unit? Is this considered AC or electrical?" They said electrical, so we went with electrical. A guy came out and was here five minutes and said, “Nope. These wires have to be replaced.” Then we waited. That electrical company said they were waiting for American Home Shield to determine to order the parts or not. After three days, I called American Home Shield and they told me they were waiting for the electrical company to submit a report.
I ended up with some supervisor on the phone. Then they sent another electrical company as a second opinion. They were here the next day, fixed the wires in about 15 minutes. He just pulled out a little extra, cleaned it up, plugged it in, and then the AC unit wouldn't come on. The compressor turned on but the fan wouldn't turn on. At that time, we had to call an AC guy. After 12 straight days of 100 degree weather, and no air conditioning, we were happy to see anybody get out here and get the air conditioner working. It's working but it's not, because at least once a day, it will go on and off and finally stay on again. I don't know if that's a thermostat or AC problem. I don't have enough money to order somebody again. I'm on a very tight budget and we used every spare dollar we had to get the two services out here.
It's still working, but every day, we have at least one problem with it. If I'll call AHS, they're gonna say it's a different service call. So, that's where we're at. But I'm very happy with the guy that was out here that day. He did everything he could. I only had trouble getting ahold of Anthem Mechanical at first. Other than that, on the service call, the gentleman that came out was very helpful and very thorough.
I've had good experiences with AHS and I've had bad. When it’s bad, it is bad. I’ve been with them now for five years. If something goes wrong, you can get help at a very decent amount of money, the $100 service call. One thing that I have trouble with is I always have the fear of them determining that it was outside normal wear and tear, which is another situation I had with them. It left a very bitter taste in my mouth. I'm a loyal person though. I can jump from company to company, but I'm going to end up with the same problem somewhere. So, I stay and try to work it out with them. They've had situations that they stood out on, so I give it where it's deserved and I question when it needs to be questioned.

However, I didn’t agree with having to go out and buy a new faucet to put on there then have the contractor come back out here. He didn't have that on this truck. And there was a service charge. Other than that, it was a good experience. But if you can deal with anything, you deal with the pros and cons.

The plumbing inside the wall of the bathroom sink was leaking. The glue had gone bad on one of the brackets. The tech was great. He figured out the problem right away and ran. He got the parts really quickly and took care of it. I don't make a whole lot of money, so I'm not in a position where if something goes wrong, that I can spend thousands of dollars all in one shot. So, it's better for me to be able to pay something monthly through a home warranty in case something were to happen.
The one time I tried to use Select Home Warranty, they tried to talk me into getting my own technician and reimbursing me. And when they did find me a technician, that tech said that they canceled the job because Select doesn't pay them. They suggested American Home Shield and AHS took care of what we needed.

The contractor, US Air Conditioning, needed to fix a leak that we had so I was calling to see if I could get the breakdown of what I was supposed to pay and what the warranty was going to pay. But other than that, we all came into an understanding. The only thing I didn’t like was that I call US Air Conditioning several times so that they could email me the invoice. They never did. And when the technician was coming on that same morning, I had to ask him. I didn’t know exactly what I was going to be paying for so he had to send it to me within the 30 minutes that he was coming. Our air conditioning wasn't working and the contractor that was sent out was great. They answered any question I had and explained what the issue was. The issue was a capacitor and a low voltage line. So they replaced the capacitor and fixed up the wiring. They got our air conditioner running. But it took more than a couple of days for them to come out here and fix the air conditioning, which is pretty important.

The house would not cool. I had workmen here putting in floors for me and doing a few other things, and one of them called me and let me know that it was like 80 degrees and he could not get it to go any cooler. He went outside and said it was running, but it was frozen. He lives in this area and he knows air conditioners. American Home Shield sent someone out and it was a pound low of Freon, and now it works really well. The technician texted me, let me know his name and when he would be out. He came out within a couple of days, and then he texted me when he was on his way. I was in Dallas, and my sister met him here and he worked with her. I noticed there was water coming from our main condensation line. It just seemed like more than normal. But we didn't have any water coming out of a secondary line. So, I requested service from American Home Shield to make sure I wasn't about to have a problem. The system was fine and operating within limits across the board, and the tech did an inspection of all the equipment including the ducts. That was the service he was able to provide. So, it was relatively quick, but we didn't have an actual issue after all.
I also had an electric claim and the electric company initially referred to me blew me off. I had to contact them, then they didn't contact me back twice. I had to call AHS today to have them find a new contractor. They approved to find a new contractor. Now, I've got to wait 24 hours for another contractor to call me. I have a legitimate electric problem that is still not solved, and I reported this on the 28th. The dispatch stuff takes a little while.

On the other hand, when my AC was running continuously on hot, sunny days, I put in a quick service request on their website. Home Shield is the best. I call and they set up stuff. I just have to wait forever to get a part for something. Also, I wish I could use the people that I know locally and I trust. The service guys have been great. The last time, they were out to fix a refrigerator. But I tell these people that set up these appointments, “Hey, I'm a home health nurse, I can't be there at 1 o'clock.” They say, “Well, that's what time the service guy is coming to fix it.” I say, “I don't care where the guy is coming from, I have patients I need to see.” They still say, “Well, don't you have anybody to be there?” I get that they want to get the best bang for the buck with this, but I hate that I can't use the people locally that I know.
The refrigerator’s ice maker has been fixed twice. The first time was under warranty, and the second time was under Home Shield. I asked the latest service guy, “So how many times do we have to do this and I pay a deductible before they call it a day.” He went, “I don't know.” There's no doubt that having the service is cost effective. On the other hand, the ones that I just called for my swimming pool were very quick and did a great job. I put the request on Saturday, and they were here Monday to fix it. I was told that I needed to change the filter, and they came and said, “No, you don’t need to change it." They were very honest and professional, and next year, I’m gonna use them for the maintenance of my pool, instead of the current company.
Submitting a claim is very easy. I wish I could speak with somebody in person, but everything is automatic. I pay the $100 immediately, schedule the time and I should have somebody. Sometimes, the problem might be something easy, but I don’t have a choice. I have to schedule the call and just order service. I'm always worried when something breaks in my house because everything, including the appliances and the pool equipment, is so expensive. By paying $100 to have somebody come and check whatever is broken, that’s great.

The people I spoke to at times were not in tune with what was going on and they didn't really have enough information. I didn't have a very great experience speaking with people when I was calling. I've used both the online app, but it seems like it's easier just for me. The last three times I've used the service, I ended up calling just to get my own clarity to make sure that what I was looking at was covered. I wasn't sure if my thermostat was covered with the furnace. So, I used the calling system just to get that clarity before I spent $75 and them saying, "Oh, well, this isn't part of that." The hardest time is if things break on Friday, so I don't get anybody calling until Monday at the latest. But it's really quick. For our recent claim with AHS, our dryer wasn't working. It was banging and making noise. And it was the best we've had with any of our claims through AHS. They came out the very next day, he had the part the following day and fixed it super fast. It rarely ever moves that quickly. I don't like that it usually takes a really, long time to get things serviced. But in the end, they generally fix the problem that we have.
They've replaced a number of things. Our air conditioner went out upstairs right after we purchased the house. Unfortunately, it took about five different service calls, which always ended up being a different vendor. They typically were fixing whatever the last person did. There was really no consistency. Eventually, they replaced the unit. But we were without air for a very long time. Our refrigerator went out as well, and we were without a refrigerator for seven weeks, which was very difficult to live without a refrigerator.
All in all, they've replaced some very expensive things for us and that's been great peace of mind. But when something breaks, you just know that it's going to be a long process time. Probably because I live in a rural community, so they're pulling mostly from the urban areas. It's more travel time and it just takes longer. I understand the process. They're going to always check to see if they can fix it first. But it gets wearisome sometimes when it's the fourth and fifth person coming out and you've been without something for so long. Also, I wish that if we have a service call and I have to call for the same claim, it would be nice if they would continue to send out the same vendor. But with this most recent claim, I was very pleased ‘cause it went so fast. I expected to be without a dryer for quite some time.

The technician who came in was very polite and efficient. He looked at the garbage disposal, saw what the problem was, and got about fixing it. Everything is performing okay. My only gripe is that the garbage disposal that I had had more of a reservoir in it. The new one that I have now is not great. I have to poke the rubber so that the water can go down in and there's only room for less than a fistful of a reservoir in there.
It may be a higher motor size, but the actual garbage disposal is “meh.” It wouldn’t be something I would have wanted because it’s dangerous. When I put the water on in the sink, it stays on the top side unless I put my fingers in to dip the water to move out of the sink, down into the rubber thing and then, when I put stuff down in there, it's only a small reservoir. I would rather have a third of a horsepower motor to have kept the size and not have to poke my fingers or put a utensil to open up the rubber thing. Apart from that, I would recommend American Home Shield.

The last couple of contractors who came out did fantastic but I'm taking the cash-out. The tech came out and determined that the air conditioning needs a new compressor. Also, I needed another $1100 to get Freon. I had never heard of any Freon in the whole world costing $1100. It doesn't make much sense repairing an air conditioning unit that’s so old. This will be the fourth time they put a new compressor. So, I'm gonna buy a brand-new air conditioning unit with a five-year warranty. That would take five years off that I don't have to claim.
The techs were fantastic and I want to use them for my other house but I told American Home Shield to make sure that the other technicians who came out never come to my house. They put too much Freon and they ruined my system. They tried to say it was a preexisting. But the new company came out and took care of everything. There was a stoppage. And then there was a hot water issue for the kitchen. The stoppage went well, but the hot water issue did not. When you have to do the pre-payment before you make a claim, if you have to retract that, that's a little tricky. The technician that came out was good. He was an intern plumber. So that may have factored into, “Well, you might need a new water heater,” Or "It might be this, or it might be that" instead of being diagnostic.
How does that work with American Home Shield as far as knowing when a water heater is going out or not out? How do they assess if I need a new water heater? And do they get me a new one, or do they get me a used one? Is there a guarantee? It was a good experience. It’s just that, there's no way to know if I'm going to need a new water heater. Because I don't want to order another $75 checkup, and then not have the hot water issue resolved in the kitchen. Because it takes three gallons of water before it gets hot, and I don’t know if that's any indication too.

Our unit on Sunday, the 18th, just shut off. We turned it off for a few hours then later that evening, my husband turned it back on. It sounded like it kicked on and turned back off, so we called American Home Shield. The guy came out on Tuesday, the 20th. He was out there for a long period of time and stated that the motor was blown up. The unit was also dirty, so they needed to do a chemical clean. He proceeded to tell me that the motor is an $800 part and it was totally covered by my Home Shield warranty. However, because the motor was blown, all the Freon leaked out and he had to fill up our unit with Freon. He said it was $10 per pound, and he needed to put 12 pounds in. I said, "$10 per pound. That's about 120 bucks. That sucks, but okay, I'll do that."
The guy said, "The chemical wash is another $250 out-of-pocket." I said, "I don't have that kind of money and if it needs the chemical wash, I'll have my husband look at it, and maybe he could just clean it himself." He tried to get me to pay for these services, and I said, "I'm just gonna pay for the Freon because it sounds like you can't replace the motor without it, so that's fine." He put the motor in the same day, and then came in and proceeded to write me a bill. He handed me a bill for over $1,000, and I was like, "Uh, what is this for?" He said, "Because we put Freon in, and it's $89 a pound." I said, "What? You just told me it's $10 per pound, and it was 12 pounds. You went over it a couple times, you never once said anything about the $89." He totally changed what he said.
I told him, "I'm sorry, but I am not paying that. Number one, because that's not what was told to me and I would not have agreed to it. Number two, I do not have that money. I legit have $200 on the credit card right now, period, the end." He called his boss and his boss talked to him for a minute, then he put me on the phone. I gave his boss the gist of what happened and asked, "Where do we go from here? What should I do?" The guy's boss told me, "Do you have a gun?" I said, "Excuse me, sir. I don't know if I'm hearing you right," and he said, "If you have a gun, just shoot him." Wow. I said, "Okay, sir, no. Let's figure something else out." He said, "Do you have a knife?" I couldn't believe that he was saying that.
I ended up just giving the phone back to the guy that was here, and he said, "Well, can you just pay $200?" I said, "Well, don't even do it for a penny more because I only have $200 on my credit card." I was so uncomfortable with the whole situation and just wanted him out of the house that I paid him the $200. The guy then went outside to get his tools, and he was out there for a while, so my husband went out and talked to him. The motor that the guy put in blew up while he was out there, and he proceeded to tell my husband, "Well, we thought that this motor would work. You have a big AC unit, and this is a universal motor, but it might be too small." Knowing that, the guy still put it in.
The guy talked to his boss again and told us, "Okay, we have to order the bigger motor, and we'll be back on Thursday or Friday," meaning yesterday or today, "and we'll come and replace it. It's gonna take 20 minutes." We were like, "Whatever do the due." Before that guy left, he sent some type of email where I could push four or five stars for their service. He said, "Okay, I'm sending you an email right now. You got to give me five stars, and you have to say that I was professional." What was I going to say, no? If I said no, what was gonna happen? I went on, and the guy stood in my kitchen right next to me, watching me and it was uncomfortable. I hit five stars, put he was professional and logged out.
We've had American Home Shield since 2019 and we've had them out twice, but I've never had anybody out for my AC. Even with the other companies that came out, I've never had this situation with the unprofessionalism and the verbal things that were said that were totally inappropriate. I ended up calling American Home Shield because I didn't feel comfortable with everything that was happening, what was said, and the repair company putting a piece of equipment in my AC unit that they rightly knew wasn't even the right part. The rep told me that they were going to escalate it, and then someone was going to get ahold of me.
That was last Wednesday. No one called me, so I called Thursday. I got another person on the phone, and they said they were going to escalate it. Still, no one's called me back. I've been very stressed this entire week. It's been a nightmare. I get issues like this happen, but I haven't even heard back from the company as to what we're going to do to move forward. My AC is still broken, and I told American Home Shield that 100%, I would like to have someone else come out because I was not comfortable with this company. In the same breath, our house is over 100 degrees inside and we have animals. My husband and I both work and we're trying to make do with what we have, but I'm afraid my animals are going to die because of the heat. They do not sit outside when it's over 100 degrees there.

When our garbage disposal started leaking, I called American Home Shield and then the tech called me. He said he'd be here at 6:00 in the evening. I told him that was late. He said that was fine. He said he just lives four blocks from me. When he got here, he pulled the garbage disposal apart, and it got a leak. A part had to be replaced. He ran out to his van and he had the part there. Then he came back in and slapped it together. He had been truthful and told me, "We could probably repair this for about $100, but I'd have to wait on parts." He also said, "As far as I'm concerned, parts weren't unavailable and you're back in business."
There is a minuscule language barrier when talking to American Home Shield reps in the Philippines, but you can work through it. They all speak good English. Older people have a hard time sometimes understanding what they say, so I have to ask twice. But that's fine. They do exactly what they're supposed to do and they take down all the information. They have all my information there, and they say they are going to charge my credit card on file with the $100 deductible. Then within 24 hours, I get a call back from somebody that says he is coming to fix the issue.

I feel like AHS just prefers to fix everything until it completely breaks instead of just replacing something. My recent claim was on my AC. I've had four claims on my AC. It's a 20-year old unit, so everything just keeps getting fixed instead of replaced. If they would look into replacing things instead of constantly fixing the smaller things, I don't have to call them a million times and that would be great. But other than that, it's been good. I did a rekey thing as well and that was fine.

I had two claims, once of which involved a toilet that wouldn't flush all the way and a leak in my sink that went to my second floor. I have a three-level townhome so it was the faucet that needed to have some type of piece to it. Submitting the claim to American Home Shield went smoothly. I liked the feature where you do a live conversation so you can show the problem. That was very helpful, because I couldn't describe what was going on and the rep was able to see it. Appliance Tech was awesome but nobody called to tell me that the plumber wasn’t going to show up. I called the company and it went to voicemail. The AHS representative called the company and didn't get a response either. The plumber showed up the next day. The appliance person fixed it and the plumber didn't have to. It was a weird ordeal.
My husband is in Japan and I'm here, and I don't know a lot about the home. So, it was helpful to have somebody. You call, you tell them the problem and they fix or help. We had a washer and dryer issue before. The tech couldn't fix it and AHS replaced the washer. People should go with them. They are reliable and knowledgeable, except for the experience with the plumber but it was minor.

Bestway Mechanical was beautiful. I had no problem with them. They always come and service whatever I would call for, and they send them out. They're good. They're wonderful. But I have an issue with them. They were supposed to send somebody out to do the drywall. Because he came to my house to do the drywall. The plumber came, and they cut out a piece of my wall. Bestway couldn’t do that. So, American Home Shield contracted this company called Complete to come do my drywall. It's a small spot. But I told them that I was having the company over the week that they were supposed to have sent somebody. Before the Fourth of July, they were supposed to came out and fix it. No one came yet. I called AHS on four different occasions, but no one showed up yet.
They told me they got somebody that would come out. They would’ve called me between 24 to 48 hours. If I don’t hear from them, I’d give them the benefit of the doubt and I'll wait a couple of days. And then, I’ll call AHS back. Every time I call them, they always send out people and they come and they fix the stuff for me. If my sister or anybody would ask me what I’d refer, I will refer them to AHS. They’re good, and the price is not bad. And whoever comes out, either they could fix it or they couldn't fix it, and they tell me to call AHS and they have to send somebody else. Or if it's above of what they do, then they would tell me I have to go through my homeowners’ insurance.

I had two toilets that were leaking and a garbage disposal that was not working. The repair guys came initially to assess what was wrong. They ordered parts and hey came back and replaced the garbage disposal. They re-sealed one toilet and on the other toilet, the mechanics were so rusted out so they couldn't fix it. They had to replace it so, they left to get authorization for that. When they left, my other toilet continued to leak. So, they said it needed to be replaced too and there was nothing they could do. So, they came back and replaced the two toilets. Everything’s working great. I have a claim though with American Home Shield that I made last September and I’m still waiting for parts. I’ve followed up several times and they don't ever tell me anything.

I've had two companies come out. The first company replaced three parts but the dishwasher still wasn't working. The last company, AAA Appliance, replaced yet another part with my dishwasher. It took them a couple of trips. The first trip, they came out and brought the part with them. But when they opened the box, the part was broken. So, someone had not checked the part first to be sure that it was usable before they sent the person out with the part. They reordered the part and were able to make a fix. But this whole process to get the dishwasher working again took probably about two months. It shouldn't normally take this long to get a dishwasher in working order. But a home warranty brings good peace of mind and that's what American Home Shield did for me. I was getting close to having to replace an air conditioning unit and I wanted to have insurance, if indeed that did fail while I owned the home.

He pointed out on the top where it was leaking and I saw it. He said that he would try hard to get back that same day or if not the next day, and he made it work that same day. He replaced our water heater and explained it before he did it. Make the investment and look into American Home Shield. My air conditioner crapped out and it was 98 degrees in my house. I called American Home Shield and the only thing that I ever have a problem with is that they tend to want to send people over from Las Vegas when we have people here in Pahrump. I always insist for them to send me someone local. When the vendors come from Las Vegas, number one, they don't wanna service us, and number two, sometimes it takes several days to get them there.
Once I got through American Home Shield's automated system and insisted upon hearing a real person, the lady was very nice. She told me, "Here is a company from Pahrump." I looked them up and they had a good reputation. I was happy. They called me within the hour and said that Noah would come the next day, which amazed me 'cause it was Saturday. They sent me an automated thing saying he would be there between 9:00 and 1:00. He called 10 minutes after 8:00 and told me he was 10 minutes out. He was there first thing in the morning. He was very polite and immediately found out what the problem was. Thankfully, it was just a capacitor and it was fixed. He, in fact, told me, "If I could have been here yesterday, but I was too busy." That was excellent service and I will recommend them. A lot of people don't like American Home Shield and complain about them on Facebook all the time but I've had them for years and we've always had very good service.

I had some problems with the furnace being installed. The company that was sent out installed the new furnace, and they were unresponsive. So I'm unhappy with that situation. What I had planned to do was sit down and write a letter talking about this company because it was bad. They said they couldn't get the part. "You would buy a new one for it to be installed." And I had to pay the charges for installation, which came to over $3,000. I agreed to do that. And then the day that they came out and installed this, it took four hours. So there was an odor coming from the attic. And the next day, they called me and said that someone was coming out just to check on things. I've tried to ask questions, "Well, what is it?" It was vague.
The guy came out the next day, and the first thing he said was, "Oh, you reported a leak." And I said, "No. I didn't report a leak. Your company called me and said that it was a routine check." So he went up to the attic, and he stayed there for a while. He brought up some pipes. He came back down, and he had redone what the problem was. He said that there was a kink in the pipe, and he had fixed it. But the odor got really bad. I kept trying to get them to come out to see where the odor was coming from because it was making me sick.
I finally called the city inspector to come out so that they could inspect it to see what was going on because I got no response from the company. And at that time, the pandemic was so bad that they had to have a contractor to come out to my house to do a video inspection. The company just ignored the inspector. And then they sent me a letter said that the contractor wasn't available.
I ended up having to call in a different company to come in and inspect it. And I had to pay $99 for them to come in and inspect it. The guy said everything was installed correctly. But he thought that it might have been the new adhesives that they're using. They were using some really strong adhesive. And that was what was making me sick. But if the original company had come out and told me about it, then I would have been okay with it, but just to be ignored. And they didn't say anything about how strong the odor would be or how long it would last. It lasted for over a month.
I've had AHS for four years almost and I've never had this kind of treatment before. Everybody has always been respectful and did a call back and follow up. And one of the things about them is they never gave me any invoices, other than the original invoice of what they did, and the technician that did it. I'm used to having that. I'm used to having the business cards and the whole works. I would have said I'm stopping the service altogether. But I realized that I've had good service for the four years. And people are prompt and pleasant. And with my husband being dead and I have to handle everything myself, I feel comfortable staying with AHS.

I'm very dissatisfied with American Home Shield. I had a refrigerator that was going out and they called a few different companies. One guy wasn't even a refrigerator guy. The second guy said I needed a compressor. I asked, “Where are your tools? How do you know what's wrong with it?” He said, ”How am I supposed to know what's wrong with it?” That was the answer I got. He left and closed the account.
Picking these people that are local at random is a waste of everyone's time and money. They want to come out and do a very minor thing. Whatever the repair is, they didn't seem to want to work to fix it. I said, “This is enough. I want GE to come out.” GE was very good. They came up with all the tools, moved the refrigerator and checked it. They said it was a compressor and a mainboard. They ordered the parts which took a long time. They came and put it in.
A few months later, the refrigerator went out again. The freezer started not working. I called them and they came out. But they did not keep a record of this refrigerator. Once it goes out of the system, that's it. They have no referral to follow up. The technician said, “You need a compressor and a mainboard.” I said, “They did that on March 1st. They installed it.” Now we have a machine that the same parts are being put in and filled once before. I was supposed to wait until August for the second set. We waited a few weeks. Once the refrigerator part went out, I had to get a cooler again to put my husband's medicine in because it has to be refrigerated.
With GE, I have absolutely no problem because their people were very knowledgeable. They did their job. However, the left hand didn't talk to the right hand. I called GE up and they said they were different parts. I told them, “I need you to look up the old parts. It's a main board and a compressor.” He looked up and said, "We discontinued that part. But you're right. It is a main board. We now have a different part.” I said, "You need to put that in an email and connect the dots so when I go back to American Home Shield, I can say you put the same parts in a few months ago and the refrigerator has failed again.” I finally called and did the cash out with the refrigerator.
When I had a problem with the pool heater, American Home Shield sent a guy from Oxnard. I'm in Agoura Hills, which isn't that far. He said he was coming out but never showed up. One day on a Friday night, he showed up at quarter to seven. He turned the heater on in the pool. He said, “You have a gas leak so we had to replace the gas line.” He didn't tell me I needed a larger line. That took a little while and we finally did it. He came out, put it on, but didn't come back when the gas was working. We tried to turn it on and immediately, it said “service equipment.” At that point, he didn't want to come back.
We waited and waited and had calls back and forth. I spent probably 15 hours. I was online, waiting to talk to somebody and asking for a supervisor. I haven't met one person who was rude or disrespectful but it's like a black hole. American Home Shield doesn't have somebody following up on the problem and putting the dots together. They sent out another guy. The first guy took probably six feet of masking tape and put it in the heater. That's great for diagnosis. He had to make an occlusion because you can't get enough pressure to turn on the heater if the gas is leaking. But he didn't come back and take the tape out. It was the size of a baseball. The other guy said, “That's why you were getting the alarm.”
After I paid the $200, $100 to the first company and another $100 to the second company, I had somebody else. He said to me, “You should have had a larger line.” Nobody told me the line shouldn't be a three-quarter inch. It should be an inch to a half an inch. Also, we shouldn't have paid for the second company because the first one should have taken his tape that he wadded up and put in my machine. You don't screw around with gas lines in the hills. We're up in the hills with all the shrubbery and the dryness. I flipped out when I saw that. We were in the Wolseley fire and were home sleeping at our house. We almost died in the fire because we didn't know. American Home Shield needs to have accountability. When they don't have follow up if there's still a problem and people are still calling, they can save themselves a whole lot of aggravation of time and money by dealing and having that follow-up.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Robert and I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

In past incidences, American Home Shield's performances have been less than stellar. If they have a hotline where I could call once the person's left and tell them exactly what the person failed to do, I would really appreciate that, because no amount of reporting, other than a verbal report, works, and quite frankly, they don't have the mechanism to allow that to happen. I manage 120 rental houses and I take care of the maintenance on those houses. What some of the technicians have done, I would fire them if they were working on my rental houses.
At the time, there was no way to contact American Home Shield. As I tried, I was gotten pigeonholed by their telephone people. How come they employ those statistical bandits in the Utah Valley? They've had such a perverse effect on feedback to employers or to vendors. I don't trust what they do because they don't ask the right questions. American Home Shield doesn't get the real story by using those people. Their statistical analysis of consumer satisfaction is conceptually flawed severely. It was too complex to relate to a person. I tried to talk to the vice president, and all I did was got pigeonholed, so I gave up.

We've had some really good luck with American Home Shield. We've used it primarily for our air conditioning unit. It was a heat pump. We requested service two years ago and the company that came out worked with the warranty company to figure out the least expensive route. And that held us for two years. And then, we had to call them back out again just recently and they took care of us. It was better than expected.
We live in a strange part of town in that we're just on the opposite side of the county line from the rest of kind of the metro area. So, AHS assigned us one provider, and then that person called and said, "Oh, we don't come out to your area." So, I had to wait for a new provider to be assigned. But that does not apply to our most recent claim. I was happy to get the same guy that we got two years ago when we submitted the claim. The process is great. You know what to do when you submit the claim. It says, "Here's your provider. They will be calling you. Here's their phone number in case you don't hear from them." Everything was clear.
I really appreciated the tech. He was honest. He told us two years ago when he came out, "This is gonna hold you, but I'll probably be back in a year." And it lasted two, which was awesome. So, we had time to prepare for any cost that we anticipated. And then, he was upfront, explained everything, like this thing's not covered because it's a pad in my house, or some kind of ductwork.
Also, one of the things that I appreciated about him was that we have a heat pump, while the AC part of it came in before the heat unit did. He came out and installed the AC unit right away and said, "Hey, I'll be back when the heat part comes in." And that's exactly what he did. He came back and installed the heat pump. It was 98 degrees outside and we were three weeks in this hot weather. He just ran out and took care of us just to get us some air going in the house until the rest of the part came in. Mike is the guy's name that we worked with and he is just fantastic. We like him a lot.
We've also used AHS for our garbage disposal. But in retrospect, we might not should have done that just because of the cost, if you do the math. By the time you pay for the $100 trip charge, and then some wiring upgrades, because our house is 20 years old, we could have just probably ran to Home Depot and got it. But it's the convenience of them coming out and taking care of it the right way.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together.

I requested service with AHS for my air conditioner this past week because it hadn't been cooling. However, it's not covered. Nobody really gave me a clear answer as to what is covered and what's not. When I signed up with AHS, they lay everything out for me. Everything sounded good, but there was no fine print. So I was a little frustrated with that because I'm having to go outside of the warranty and pay out of pocket as if I didn’t have the warranty at all.
I’ve had other experiences with them and things went fairly well. I had to get a microwave replaced. It's a long drawn-out process though. The technician came out and discovered that it couldn't be fixed, it had to be replaced. It was a matter of having to wait on a replacement coming from overseas. I was a little bit more okay with that. Shipping like that might be delayed due to the current state of the state or the world. But nonetheless, eventually, after three months, my initial request for the microwave was eventually taken care of and replaced with no problem.
It’s beneficial for smaller things. I had a claim for the air conditioning. They came out and they charged up the air condition and replaced the Freon. The technician said that there was a flow leak somewhere, but he couldn't find it. But I was not really sure that he gave much effort to find it. They just charged it up and let us know what we were gonna have to pay for that. I said, “So American Home Shield only covers one pound, and we have to pay for the remaining 8 pounds.” That could be a little pricey too. We’re paying the deductible and we’re paying the monthly fee, what is it really covering? But submitting a claim has been very simple and smooth. Every time I initiate online, I’m getting a response within 24 hours in most cases.

I have three boys and they usually load the dishwasher. With the dishwasher out of commission, they had to wash the plate and rinse it. They were whining and asked me when someone was coming out to fix the machine.
The contractor I got was great. It took them time to get back to me on the phone call because they couldn't understand the phone number that I left. They were calling the wrong number. When they finally put me on the schedule, their tech came right out and he was on time. He found out that there was something on the top of the dishwasher that came loose. That was why the dishwasher was not working. He found the piece inside the dishwasher at the bottom. He screwed it back on, turned on the machine, and it started working. I was very pleased.

He said that the unit was clogged up. That was something that I had no control over and it would take a technician to address that. Andrew did a great job.
Home Shield's claim process has improved and is much better than it originally was. Before, you spend a lot of time on hold on the phone. That has been expedited in the last five years. They are also open 24 hours for claims. Before, it was during specified hours. The majority of the technicians that I worked with were also very good. But I'm very concerned and am moderately unhappy about the quality of the replacement. In the past, if I had a faucet that needed to be replaced because it was dripping or water leaking then I would call it in and Home Shield would send me pictures of the types of equipment they could replace this with. We had choices.
I just had a faucet replaced in my master bathroom. Even though it is a Delta Faucet, it’s the cheapest Delta that money could buy. It's not the quality of the faucet that it was replacing. I have some issues with that. It seems some of the things are being replaced with inferior quality of what the customer is calling in to have fixed or replaced. A lot of times, I don't even want the thing replaced. But Home Shield says they can't find the part for this or that so they are going to have to replace it. That's fine as long as their standard of quality is comparable.
When I first started with Home Shield, the service call was $25. Over the years, they increased. Mine has been $75 for the last five years and it is still the case when I got my new contract for this cycle. But when you have a $95 service call, that's not much savings especially for new homeowners and people starting out. That's unreasonable. Home Shield needs to look at that as far as their service charge because when I had some plumbing problem that my contract with Home Shield didn't address, a guy came out for $60. He also addressed another issue that I hadn't called Home Shield to correct. So I got two for a price that was way less than Home Shield's service fee. If I were a new homeowner and I budgeted $100 for everything that happens, one thing is fine. But if you have three things that go out on you, that's $300.
My cousin has a home warranty with another company and she was telling me the experience she had with plumbing was horrid. I said, “American Home Shield is not like that. Once they tell you you pay a certain amount for the service charge, there are no hidden costs. They don't have an asterisk on, ‘Gee, we said we could do this. But now, look at the statement that has three asterisks by it. See, we don't do that.’” That's what I appreciate about my home warranty. It's pretty straightforward.

The service of AHS is fine. However, with my recent claim, there was an issue with the quickness of getting the tech out because I called American Home Shield the week before and the representative that I spoke with called me back and gave me the name of another company. When I called the company, the company told me, “We don't do hot water heaters. We do air conditioning.”
I called American Home Shield back and spoke to another different person. She said, “No problem. I'm going to hold on and I'm going to get someone else for you.” This was the next day. She gave me the information and said, “I'm gonna go ahead and put the request in now.” That company called me to set up the appointment. She said to me, “So what problems are you having with your HVAC system?” I said, “I'm not having any problems with my air conditioning system. My heating system is fine. I'm having problems with my hot water heater.” She said, “We don't do that.” I said, “I guess I'll have to call them back. The company prior to you that they gave me said the same thing. Obviously, someone is not providing the contractors with the correct information about what my issue was.”
It took me a while to get through to AHS. Every time, I was holding for a while. That was another not-so-good issue. She said, “I believe I can get through sooner, so let me try.” She was gracious enough to call back to American Home Shield and then they called me back, and that was when the third person gave me Joy Plumbing. Then Joy Plumbing called me. The gentleman that came to my house to service called me, “The earliest I could come out is on Monday morning. I could be there between 7:00 and 11:00.” He was very professional and he explained everything to me. However, there was a disconnect with AHS. If it happened one time, then I'm like, “That was a miscommunication.” But it should have been noted in the computer after that one time, “This lady needs help not with an air conditioning unit.” It took a total of seven working days for this to be resolved.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

The service of AHS has been great. Everything was perfect with my recent claim. The guy did what he was supposed to do. He was courteous, too. However, I used AHS the first time for the same problem six months ago and they sent a guy out. The guy came out and sent some paperwork and said I need to dig up my whole floor and it was gonna cost me $3,000. I went to Home Depot and I bought some things down there and that fixed it for a while. Lo and behold, it didn't cost me $3,000. The first guy that they sent out tried to rip me off. But having AHS is a great benefit.

When we call to file a claim, American Home Shield debits 125 then we wait 24 to 48 hours for a service contractor to pick it up. They then schedule the call. Two times, we’ve had to cancel because the scheduling was so far out. We just went on our own and hired somebody to come in and do it. Getting that deductible back is a process and I don't feel that it should be. This last time, we had to wait over 10 days to get our refund back. My funds are tied to the account, it’s auto debit and I’m monthly paying. That would be my only gripe.
When Buster's Appliance came recently, the problem was fixed and up and running within an hour. It's just that we had to wait a week for service. Otherwise, they were extremely professional, fast, and to the point. Overall, we’re extremely happy with American Home Shield. It's convenient and I can find all my warranty services and my contract language online. That piece of it is extremely user-friendly for me. Overall, it's a nice peace of mind to have. American Home Shield has excellent services and they are really good. Today, I had a service for a plumber that went to my house. He ordered some part of the things that we need to change. He said that the one that I have in my tub has warranty for life. That we should call so they can send the other part. I said I'm gonna call to see if it's true or not. Other than that, I recommend AHS to my brother-in-law. I said, “I know they have excellent services and I'm really glad about it.”

The AC outside went out on Tuesday. I put in a work order on Wednesday and as of yesterday, 24 hours at the least, I still didn't get a call from any contractors. I called back and the lady said they were still trying to find a contractor. It was 97 degrees. I called back again yesterday morning. They said a contractor would be calling me within one to two hours. That was at 9:00 in the morning and it was starting to get hot again.
After two hours, I still didn't get a call so I called a local HVAC person. He came and all he had to do was replace the thing, which cost me $300. I just paid him the $300 then canceled my service request on the website. American Home Shield said that if I have to deal with it within the 24 to 48 hours, then I probably won't get reimbursed and I didn't really care at that time because my house was a furnace. My son could not sleep. There was no way I was gonna let him wait another night. It's bad when you have to put him in a tub and he didn't want to get out and the tub had cold water in it. But I liked the guy who came for the water heater that was leaking. He replaced the whole thing and I didn't have to pay for it.

WM Ryan Plumbing was fantastic. They came out to light my hot water tank. The plumber, Bill, did it in two minutes. He's been out here before with our toilet and was good then too. He also kept communication with me when he was en route to my home. That, I was very satisfied with. Two weeks ago, I noticed an email saying AHS was deducting $108 from my account for service. I asked why they were doing that when I haven't had anybody come out and service my washer and dryer. The rep said that's how their policy is and there's nothing they could do about it.
I was calling every day to get an answer about who was calling me about service and what was going on. Then, I talked to a young man on the following day. He was very nice. I explained to him my concern and he said, "No, we won't do it." But the payment did come out last Friday and I still didn't know who was coming to service me. I was not happy when I called back in. I told them, "Who's coming out to service? I'm still going here without my washer and dryer. Nobody's contacted me." The young lady put me on hold and checked in with Sears. She gave me Sears' phone number and I called Sears last Friday. They only had me in the system for my washer but the claim was for a washer and dryer, and I won't get to see them until August 3rd. They said they were backed up.
After I spoke with Sears, I spoke with another lady and told her that the dryer wasn't in the claim. She said, "We sent them the dryer information, but we need the serial number." I called the following day with the serial number. The young man that I spoke with this Monday said that he showed on his end about the dryer, but I had explained to him, according to Sears, they don't. He took my serial number down, put me on hold and called Sears. I was set up for August 5th. So, for two days, I gotta be home from work - one day for a washer, and another day for a dryer. I asked, "Why aren't they just doing it the same day when they're here?" He said, "I said the same thing to him too, ma'am. He said that's how they're doing it." I told him this has been the worst service I've received from American Home Shield and I will not refer them to another friend or family member.
The lady I spoke with last Friday also said they were going to give me back $50 but the guy I spoke with on Monday didn't see anything in the notes on that and I haven't received my $50. But I still had $108 deducted from my account without a purpose. What if the contractor calls me and says, "We can't come out." I'm still charged a service that never happened. The flow of communication needs to be better. I always thought they charge me $108 once the serviceperson's come out. But they're charging me ahead before I even had a service date or who was going to be doing the job.

I feel good about American Home Shield and we're happy to continue our relationship with them. It's worth the money that we pay. I appreciate the small fee that we have to pay if there is a problem. Recently, we had someone come out and look at our HVAC because our air wasn't working as appropriately as it should have. We also had someone come out to look at our hot water heater. They gave us good next steps. There was one claim where we did have to pay the $100 deductible and the contractor informed us that we didn't have the gas turned on. We paid $100 for someone to tell us that we didn't have the gas on, but that was kind of our error.
We have very busy days at work, and we don't have to spend time looking for contractors if we run into problems. One benefit of having American Home Shield is it saves us time. Also, after saving time from looking for a contractor, I don't have to then go look at reviews because I know American Home Shield is a reputable company and they use contractors who are also competent and who we feel confident in their ability and work.

The tech said he had to replace two things and when he left it was blowing. But it stopped blowing again. I've had different technicians and they suggested that I replace my unit because it's old. On Sunday, AHS reached out but I haven't heard anything back since Sunday afternoon. I called AHS again today and they were able to schedule a technician who would be out sometime tomorrow. But generally, it was an easy process and it worked nicely. Jess was really good in keeping us informed and talking to us about what's going on and the process that he needed to go through. The AC was working for a few days. He's coming back out sometime today because it is still struggling for some reason. It was a good experience. They made me pay another $100 to have another company come and fix my AC. The other company that came fixed it this time. I've had American Home Shield three years ago when it was only $80 to pay. Now, it boost up $100. If you already put $100 in to put a request in and the person didn't fix it, even if it's after 30 days, I don't feel like you should have to pay another $100 if you’re putting a request in for the same issue. Also, I did not know about the 30-day guarantee.

American Home Shield is good. It's just that I made three separate, different appointments with them to come out and I've got to pay $100 in every one of it. The guy that fixed my dryer was now saying that my 240 outlet is not working. I had to pay another $100 to get a electrician, so I got one. I feel like after making one appointment and $100 should be paid, I shouldn't have to make another $100 appointment for somebody to come out to check the appliance, even though it's for different appliance. I'm out of 3 or $400 and they had nothing done yet. But then recently, I was receiving a low pressure on my water. I thought that one of my valves went out and caused my pressure to go down, but the plumber checked all the pressure on my faucets, and everything was good. I guess it was just something to do with the water line pressure.

A lady called me to go over the warranty with American Home Shield. She was welcoming us for buying a new house and she said that the house can be rekeyed under our warranty. That was something I was looking into doing so I did the service request over the phone with her. A technician came and did the job. We wanted to change one of the locks to something else and he explained to us the price difference. He was great and he did the work fast.
So far, my only complaint was with an AC company I had. A tech came out and diagnosed the problem with the AC then told me that somebody else would have to come out and go over my warranty and see what was gonna be covered. He didn't wanna tell me prices. I thought was weird but I let him set up an appointment for the other guy to come out. He came out later that evening and it was a really bad experience. The guy wanted to sell me a whole new air conditioner saying that I needed to replace the whole unit I had. But the tech that initially came told me it was only one piece that needed to be replaced.
This other guy was trying to charge me $25,000 and I was not paying that. When I paid for a whole air conditioner to be replaced in the past, it never cost that much. I asked him if this was with the American Home Shield as it was paid for. He said, “Yes, that’s your portion.” I kept telling the guy that if that was what the warranty was covering, I would have to shop around and just pay out of pocket. I could get the unit cheaper then. The guy was very argumentative and told me I was not gonna get it any cheaper than that here in the State of Texas. He was the only one with the parts that I needed to fix my AC. If I let him walk out the door, I wouldn't be having any AC.
I reached out to American Home Shield three times. The last time I did, they told me that their report said the AC was fixed but it wasn't. I told them what the two guys did. I also told American Home Shield that I didn't want those people back in my house. But because they started the work order, they would have to be the ones to come out and fix The AC. I told the rep I needed to speak to a manager. I felt very unsafe with the guy in the house arguing with me about the AC. The rep said someone would call me within 24 to 48 hours. Hopefully, someone calls me today. Other than that, American Home Shield saves us a little bit of money.

He sent me the information then Rekey contacted me saying they got my work order and gave me the dates that were available, and it was that week. I told them we don't move in until the middle or end of June, so I would have to get a date that's farther out. They said they don't book it that far out. I would have to let Home Shield know so they could generate another work order. I said okay.

The gal said that I’ll have to pay again. I asked why would I do that, I already paid back in May. She said she would talk to her supervisor. She came back on saying that she would credit what I already paid in previously and then I need to give her my credit card and charge me $75 that day. Well, it didn't make any sense to me, but they might want to keep the transactions separate, so I gave them my credit card and then I got charged another 75, so I paid twice. I had a heart condition, and my air has been out for over two weeks. The contractor that American Home Shield assigned to me took $300 of my money and said that I was low on refrigerant. I gave them the money for the refrigerant. And less than 24 hours later, my air was out again. So, I called up AHS, and I told them, “Hey, listen. I just paid my $125 deductible and I gave $300 to the contractor, because the contractor said that I was low on refrigerant. And now I'm out of air again.” So they said, “Okay. You don't have to give us another $125 because the work wasn't completed. We're going to get in contact with the contractor, which is Best Tech.”
They got in contact with the contractor, and I said, “We did what you said. We had the thermostat set at 70, now we're not getting any error at all. He was just at my house Monday of this week. We waited over a week for you to come, because we called you the prior, Friday. And then, it took you a week to come.” What happened after that was, they said, “Well, the quickest we can come out, won't be until Tuesday.” I was like, “Tuesday? I have to work. I don't get off until 3:30.” Then they said, “Well, when is your next day off?” I said, “Well, my next day off that I can get to you guys isn't until Wednesday, August 4th.” “We'll be there on Wednesday, August 4th.” “That's exactly two weeks from today. I can't go two weeks without air. Please help me.”
Their response was, “We can't help you. We have to wait and hear what the contractor has to say.” So the contractor works Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:00. This happened at 5:30. They reached out to the contractor, the contractor didn't answer the phone last night. This morning, they reached out to the contractor, the contractor answered the phone and told AHS that they would not be able to expedite me even though I have a heart condition that I flat lined a couple of years ago. I cannot be in a hot house. My husband told me that AHS canceled the work order with Best Tech, and they will dispatch someone else. If I don't hear from them by 1 o'clock, that they will either call me or send me a text, letting me know who the new contract would be so that I can have air. We purchased a home and the Home Shield was part of the contract from the real estate deal. After we got in the home, the air conditioning wasn't cooling the entire home. The contractor AHS sent out did not go under the home and inspect the ductwork. Two weeks later when we called back, AHS sent the same company out. I informed them that the company said they weren't going to do the ductwork. AHS then scheduled this other company after telling us not to run the air conditioning unit at all. That company didn't show up. Two days later, someone else did. They said that our ductwork wasn't attached in some places and that it was poorly installed by whoever has done it.
AHS wanted a second opinion so they had another contractor come out. After almost six weeks through this problem, we were told that AHS would not do it because my unit did not have straps on the ductwork. The service is a sham and it's not worth it. They didn't need to take five to six weeks to get back to us and say they're not going to fix the issue. Plus, they shouldn't penalize over a strap that is not expensive.

The first time Plumber Dave and Son came out was for a stoppage. It didn't all the way drain the first time they came out. Then, when the young man came upstairs, he said that there was a part of the stack that was corroded, and he was gonna talk to his dad. Then, I called back to see what was going on with that. It took us a few weeks to get back in touch with them, but they just came back out and he said he opened the stoppage and fixed the little stack problem. There's no more water in the basement, so I'm assuming they fixed the stoppage.
A couple of American Home Shield agents had been trying to get in touch with Dave and Son a couple of times. One of them said that he was making a courtesy claim and he was sending them back out. And they came back out. They were very friendly. They seem to know what they were doing and what I was talking about, and they got it done. Water was coming from the sewer, and the repair was wonderful because it smelled like sewer and we couldn't run water. So, it helped 100%. Overall, American Home Shield is a great company.

There is a pipe under the sink which had some crack in it. The tenant also showed the picture to me. So, I forwarded it to the plumber. The plumber just said he could go there. Then as routine, they went there and replaced the pipe. They responded quickly and had a very small interaction. However, we submitted another service request with American Home Shield because after that fix, no water is coming out. There's a valve under the sink, and if you open and close it, still no water comes out. And then if you open it again, it continues to flow too much water, so we have to close it. We made record of the video and then submitted another request online.
I submitted another request but it was not good. That second vendor was very irresponsible. We submitted on July 19th and they didn't even reply. I called every day. I even sent text messages. No one answered. Late afternoon, the second day I called, finally, they answered my call. But they mentioned that they were fully booked until next week. But they never replied to the assignment. So, I called AHS. AHS is always okay. They answered my call, but they said they would do it again. So, they resubmitted yesterday. But they closed the July 19th service request, so there's no history on my account. It's the same service request on 19th, but the representative just closed it and reopened another one on July 21st. There should be some rate even some vendor did not reply, or there should be certain button on the website.

My ceiling fans weren't working right. They weren't responding to the switches. Turner Electrical and Lighting came out to remedy and they were awesome. As far as submitting the claim to American Home Shield, it's a bit archaic. It's an automated system, so it's hard to tell if it's working because you don't talk to a human. If you're calling for a claim, you press 2, and then you tell it what it is you need and it tells it back to you and you confirm. Then they assign a company to you and the next 24 hours, they're supposed to call you. Also, once in a while, the companies that AHS chooses don't call back right away. But AHS provides you with the number of the company that's been assigned to you so you can call them yourself.
I like American Home Shield. It works fine. I've used it more than once and it's been good both times. I'm a real estate agent and I've purchased home warranties for my buyers for years. I just started buying American Home Shield because I've used them and they're good. They've shown up for me, personally, so I'm happy to purchase their warranty for my clients.

I like the fact my home's a little bit older home and when things happen, I can call, and they will have a plumbing company come out or an AC company or whatever the case may need to be at the time. It's like one-stop shopping. I enjoy the submission of the claim process. I'm not one of those people that really like to go online, although I've gone online once and done it. But I like the fact that I can call and just give them my agreement number and contract number and they will take care of it. It's always been easy.
The contractors have also been very good. I was really impressed by this last one. I was expecting a 24 to 48-hour call and got one in a couple hours. And they came out the next day. The very first AC guy, we had a little bit of a mishap trying to figure out the Freon, but we got it all straightened out. So, all is well. I'd recommend AHS.

In general, I'm not a fan of home warranties. I've had many experiences over the years where either the part of the thing is not covered or the people Band-Aid it, it works for a little while, it doesn't, or they can't figure out what's wrong, they don't know how to fix it, or it takes them weeks to get here. When my washing machine wasn't spinning properly, the tech couldn't figure out the problem. It never got fixed and I ended up buying a new one. But this latest experience was good. The guy came out and he's been to our house before for another issue. He identified the problem pretty quickly. He said he had to order a part, which would be the same as the one that his company ordered ready for another client. Then the next day or the day after, they called and said the part was in stock. They came and put it in.
This is a good start to getting me back to believing that this warranty makes any sense. Even though I'm not a fan, I have coverage in my four properties. They're residential houses, but we have assisted living businesses in them for the elderly so things break all the time there. I also have air conditioning units that are pretty old and I worry about those.

Our GFI kept switching off all the lights to our bathrooms so, we would have no lights in the bathrooms. When the repair guy opened up our panel, he said it was loaded and he recommended I get an assessment. So, I was gonna call them to get that done next to see if maybe we need a different panel. Besides that, the wire was not fully connected and you have to screw it in. Once you pull the panel off, the wire was barely touching the connection. So, it was a danger. It's been that way for five years. It kept going off and on, and I couldn't figure out what was going on.
The guy was able to connect the actual thing and then screw it, so it was connected. He also said that it was causing an arc. When I would reset it, it would cause an arc that would possibly could have caused a fire. So, I’m glad that I finally called them and had them come check it out. The repair guy was very nice, polite and personable. He checked all my bathrooms to make sure everything was working before he left.

When I didn't have hot water, I did a claim on the website and the plumber came out quickly. He called me Friday morning and said, “Hey, I'll try to swing by, so you'd have hot water for the weekend.” While he was coming, I had to step out to take my daughter to work. My other son was home, but the plumber didn't need to come into the house. He went to the outside to where the water tank was, and then supposedly fixed it and left. He called me and said, “Hey, it was just the breaker. You're fine. You're good to go. You will have hot water in 20, 30 minutes, no worries. Call me back if there’s anything.”
I thought, “Oh, I feel dumb. It was just the breaker, and he fixed it.” I left the plumber the feedback right after the service call ‘cause he was really sweet and wasn't rude. I thought things went well, but my water heater was not fixed. Later on, my husband took a shower and no hot water. I called the plumber's number at 5:30 in the evening, but by then, he might have been done working for the day. I left him a voicemail. We went without hot water, and we still don't have hot water right now. Yesterday, I called AHS and they went to give the job back to him. He's supposed to come back out again and I haven't heard from him since. He never even returned the call from my voicemail.
My Realtor bought us our membership for the first year when we bought the house, and I didn't even know that was a thing. At first, there was a lot of drama with them. I even got into a fight with a couple of their reps' bosses. There were a couple of instances where I would have been like, “Screw that,” and my Realtor was almost gonna not recommend them anymore, either. However, I found other people to speak to afterwards that were not so ridiculous, and we got my house taken care of initially. In all fairness, I have medical conditions that make me a little more demanding than the normal customer, so it wasn't all their fault. I could've been nicer as well. Overall, I definitely would recommend American Home Shield to anybody who owns a home. As a matter of fact, we just renewed because it's a great service and the one year that my Realtor bought us was up.
I like how it's easy to submit a claim on the website, but sometimes it's not so black and white, like for the water heater, it didn’t have the option to put "no hot water." It just had "Other," and it didn't let me elaborate. When the plumber called, I had to explain, “Yeah, I don’t have hot water. That’s what’s wrong with it.” On the website, it might be useful if someone could at least explain a bit more when he or she clicks "Other." It wasn't that big of a deal though. I enjoy the website, and I have used it a few times. It's better than the phone call.
Every time I've had to call the 800 number, it's been a little sketchy, but every time we use the computer, it's great. When I called the 800 number about the plumber, the rep seemed a little confused by what I was trying to tell her. To be fair, English was her second language, so that might have been a barrier. I tried to go onto the website and indicate, “Hey, it's not fixed. Can the guy come back?” I couldn't put that information into the computer and the website wanted to charge me another 100 bucks. 'Cause it was the same issue, I thought, “Okay. Wait, let me call.”

I've had a horrible experience with American Home Shield. I had a refrigerator problem and they took about three weeks. They finally got somebody out here. The technician that came, immediately, checked everything. He said it was the gasket because I've got a leak there. I also had a hole in the icemaker bucket. A couple of days after he left, it was 80 degrees in there. I thought there is no way that could be a gasket. A gasket wouldn't cause the refrigerator to get that hot. It is air escaping out. I called back and told them I wanted somebody to come back out and check it again because the gasket is not what's wrong with it. The person that came was very nice, but that's immediately what he said it was when he was looking for something.
American Home Shield did a three-way call with Sears and they were talking to the technician. They sent over a release form from Sears so they could send somebody else. However, I have not heard back directly from American Home Shield. It was May the 22nd when this started. That's over two months now, and I'm still without a refrigerator. I'm 75 years old and it's been a lot. Me having shoulders replacement, I can't do a whole lot of stuff and every time I go to that refrigerator, I need to clean everything out. I already did that with the stuff I took out of the freezer. I had food that I threw away so I feel like I'm out a lot of money.
I did need a plumber and that worked out fine. He fixed my problem. But I didn't know I was gonna have to pay $400 for his service because it was something that wasn't covered under American Home Shield. I am upset about it and thinking of canceling the service. American Home Shield has not done me right. I've tried to convey that to them when I talked to them but that went nowhere.

The freezer in the refrigerator was not functioning. The person contacted me before he came and told me about which time he would come so I could expect and arrange my schedule around it. He also explained why the freezer is not functioning and what's the potential solution, and the pros and cons. He came and explained all the details to me. The issue is about a pipe behind a fridge. It was difficult to get in there so he took a picture of the problem and showed it to me.
This is not repairable, so the solution is to replace the fridge. The email said I could get a check or E-card. But when I tried to submit, it only gave me the option of E-card. There was no option of check. Then, the customer service had no idea what was going on and just told me to go with E-card. So, I only have the option to be reimbursed through the gift card of Lowe's and I also have to pay out of my pocket to purchase a new fridge. I have to get one as soon as possible. My own is barely working. The only place that the fridge can be delivered within a couple of days is Costco so I have to order it from there.
Now, I don't know how I am gonna spend the E-card. I don't go to Lowe's and shop so that's a big problem for me. I called AHS back to inquire but I spent 10 minutes with the person. I'm very busy with other things so how would I know if I call back again, I will not have the same problem with another customer service representative? I’ll just save my own time and go with the easier one for me.

The AC unit was not keeping the temperature as it should. My air is set on 75 but when you look at it, it's usually on 78, 79. American Home Shield sent the first guy out. He came out and said that the line had froze up and that it was clogged up there. It needed to be cleaned out and he took care of all that. I called that night because nothing changed. The temperature was still 78, 79, 80. They sent somebody else out who said the filter needed to be changed. The other guy never even checked it. The second guy also said that the coils were damaged. I asked him what he meant and he showed me. He said it was not getting the correct amount of air to come through in order to cool the home the way it should. He told me it was probably not gonna be covered because it was not a manufacturing error, it was because of poor care of the part. He said that he was gonna have American Home Shield people call me but no one ever did.
Finally, I got tired of waiting because my kids are burning up. I called and got someone who doesn't speak English well on the phone. They kept repeating what I already know. I told them I wanted to know how to get it fixed and how much the part would be. The first guy couldn't get it. He just said he was gonna have somebody call me back which didn't happen. I had to end up calling, again, yesterday and got a young lady on the phone who didn't speak English, but it was better than the other guy. She kept repeating the same thing, but she finally got it when I said, “That's not what I'm calling for. The follow up is terrible. I don't see why I have to keep calling. You would think American Home Shield would follow up and say what's going on, what's the next step and what I need to do. But I can't get anybody to do that and when you call, the reps still can't understand and tell you what you need to do.

I just called up and explained there were a couple of issues that I had. The process was very smooth. And I was impressed by the turnaround time because I was reached out pretty quickly by both the contractors. The person was very professional, and he did the job very quickly. It was very good experience overall. I'm a first-time homebuyer and it was my first time buying a home warranty. And when I was reading about the range of services, coverage, etc for air conditioning and all that, I was told by the customer service agent that normally American Home Shield provides the coupons that can take care of repairs for free. What they avoid is before the season starts. So, for someone like me who purchased the house in the middle of summer, then I’m a new customer, AHS should have something for someone like us. That would be really nice.

The air conditioner fan on the outside of the house quit working. So, the whole unit was making a weird noise and was getting hot. I made a claim on Friday and right away, AHS gave me the people that were going to come out and do it. The techs came out Monday they did a wonderful job. They found the problem was a sensor and they had it offhand. They fixed it right away. If you're buying a home, get Home Shield because it's a lifesaver.
Thank you for sharing your recent experiences with us. We are happy that we were able to get the issue resolved for you and we look forward to our continued business together.

It was my first time using AHS. When I submitted a claim, one email said to call to schedule, but then one said that it would be rescheduled. So I just went by the email. I called the gentleman and the company. They didn’t respond. I called back AHS, and then AHS said they’d sent them an email. As soon as they sent the email to the company, they immediately responded. What was so good about it is that, normally, the guy said it would take almost a week to two weeks to get a response because it was all booked. But the technician lived in an area where I was at and he was able to come the same day.
He came out and he found out what my problem was. It wasn’t the dryer at all, it was the electricity coming to the dryer didn’t have enough current. I just got my electricity uploaded to a different box and they had left a lead wire over the 240 current coming in. And this guy was awesome. He did his thing and said, “This is your problem right here.” Because he could have come in and said, “I don’t know what the problem was.” But he was very professional. He took his time and he went from A to Z. He told me what he was doing and what he found. I had a good experience with AHS.

AHS's website worked fine. The contractor for my rekey did a great job. I showed the tech all the locks and he told me what he was gonna do. I presented a couple of problems with two of the locks where they were broken and he placed them on site. He had me go around, check all the locks and make sure everything was good before he left. I'd recommend AHS at least for rekeying services. It provides me a bit of peace of mind.

Mr. Appliance came out, and they were very professional. They were really good, but Home Shield knew off the bat, “Hey, these people won't be able to fix it. They're not licensed to do it.” They told me about it prior. They keep scheduling people, and those people keep either not being able to fix it or they keep canceling last minute or not showing up. My fridge has been out of commission for over two weeks now, and I've been on the phone with the warranty company every day trying to figure it out and get it squared away.
We're still going through the process with American Home Shield, and at this point, they either need to fix it right now or give me a check. Something needs to happen. This has been my only claim and I haven't had a whole lot of contact with them, but it's been me that has had to initiate the contact, call, track them down and figure it out. They know that this claim is open, but they don't communicate that to me at all. I'd like to see the process a bit more streamlined. Overall, I'm not super dissatisfied. At least they're working on stuff.

The bottom half of my fridge would freeze and the top half was room temperature. The contractor got back with me the same day I submitted the claim through American Home Shield and we scheduled an appointment. The technician came and put in the new fan for the fridge. He was here for 30 minutes. AHS has been helpful in the way that they work with every appliance in my house.

Go online and then pick whatever your issue is. And then, American Home Shield links you up with somebody. Or they outsource it if they don't have anybody with them like that. I had a stoppage in my kitchen sink. The stoppage was deep within the drain, not necessarily the pipes, right up under the sink. And the tech was very professional about it. He gave me tips and things on how to prevent it in the future. Everything went smoothly. If the insurance is covered, then you get reimbursed for it. AHS pretty much lets you know everything upfront. Read the contract so you know exactly what's covered, so that you know what they cover and what you have to pay for if something goes wrong.

I called American Home Shield for the dryer on my washing machine and they got right on it. They got me a representative and a week later, the contractor was here because there was some sickness with the company. They had to order the part and they sent me an email saying that the part service was doing that. Then they came back and repaired it last week. Communication was great. Overall, I'm happy with American Home Shield. It's worth it.

We've utilized American Home Shield twice and in each case, the personnel has been quick to respond, polite, and friendly. The first time was an electrical problem, and it was a bad circuit breaker. The second time, our dishwasher wasn't working when we called, but when the repairman came out, it was working. He put a tester on and it didn't indicate any particular issues. Since the dishwasher was working, there wasn't a whole lot he could do, except suggest a remedy if our dishwasher did the issue again.
We've had some power issues, and he said to turn the breaker off then back on rather than just unplug the dishwasher and see if that resolves it. He said to inform him if it doesn't, and he’s going back out, and he'll take care of it. We have a six-month warranty, so if an issue comes up again, we'll just give him a call. All in all, I've been happy and satisfied with the service we've gotten and the people who have come out. They knew what they were doing and did the job. I would recommend American Home Shield.

American Home Shield's claims process could get very frustrating. There's a part of it that's all automated and I've just about pulled my hair out the last time I had to deal with it. I wanted to talk to somebody and it was very difficult to navigate that because I had the same issue with the same handler in May. I couldn't remember the date they came out to service it with the same kind of issue and I wanted to know if this was still under the same contract because if it was, I shouldn't be paying for it. But it was too long from the time I had the service and I couldn't talk to anybody about it. I just had a simple question and it was hard to get through to somebody. So if you have something else besides the options that are there, trying is very hard.
I had to find another phone number through them and when it prompted me for a request, I just put in something that I didn't need, but I knew that I’d probably get to a person. Then, when I got on the phone with them, at least I was able to talk to somebody and explain what was going on. And then I needed to talk to a person that could handle it that could help me. Aside from that, it takes over an hour to get somebody. One time I did it in the late afternoon and I was getting tired. I decided that I couldn't do it anymore and to just wait until the morning. But when I would get ahold of somebody and get something on a ticket to get service, AHS had been very prompt and I'm very happy with that. And then I'd get the services resolved. I also like having the security of them being there if I have a problem.
Other than that, the person that took care of my last problem knew what he was doing. He said he’d been doing it for a long time and he was a very nice person. But he wasn't professional. When I opened the door, he was just chewing away on gum and slapping it in his mouth. Then in front of me, he got really sweaty and he took the T-shirt he had on. He picked it up and was rubbing his face, plus his belly was sticking out. That's not the way they should act on the job. He also didn't have a name tag on and didn't have a company shirt on to identify himself. And that didn't sit very well. But he did a good job and he remedied the problem. The AC was clogged up and he blew out whatever debris was in there in the pipes.

When my pipe started leaking, the guy American Home Shield sent just had to cap something off, something I didn't realize that was on the house. He explained how it leaked. It was a $15 fix, and I had to pay a $100 for the deductible. Apart from that, he was fine. He was up here locally. The company is far away by their address, but luckily, the person lived close to me. Where I live at is rural. It's a lot of traffic, and I want to take that in consideration and make sure someone's in my vicinity, so they won't have to travel far.

It was a little frustrating when I submitted a claim with AHS because I had a service company and they were gonna terminate their agreement with American Home Shield. These guys have been out to try to fix our air conditioner many times. I rang AHS and I made them aware of that. I got somebody within AHS on the marketing side who said, “I’ll call that company right now and verify that.” And the company told them, “We cancelled the arrangement with you guys. We don't want to deal with you anymore.” AHS said to me, "We're going to allocate Atlanta Air.” From the start to the finish, Atlanta Air has been extraordinary. Nothing's too much trouble and from that point on so has American Home Shield.

Our air conditioner would turn off and it wouldn't go back on for quite some time. By the time that the contractor was able to come out, it had started up again. They told us that since it had started up, they couldn't tell us what was wrong with it. This went on for about a whole month where it would be working and then all of a sudden, it would quit. It was 113 degrees here, so it was a nightmare. When it went out, it would take at least three to four days before we could get somebody to come out. So that was a long time without air conditioning. We were dissatisfied because we couldn't get people out here in a timely manner. The contractor came out about three times and each time, the air conditioner was working. Then we were told that we needed to replace the air conditioner, and that was what we did.
We've been fine with American Home Shield. If your oven goes out, you can wait. But in case of emergencies like with our air conditioner, we’re very dissatisfied. It was so frustrating. We couldn't get the visit expedited. When we called American Home Shield, we were on hold forever. The rep was trying to get it expedited but they never did call back to let us know. It was not good. I would have liked to have seen somebody that was able to come out when we called and said our air conditioner wasn't working. I don't mind waiting half a day or so. I understand that it was a busy time, but we needed some type of emergency visit and we couldn't get it. We did end up having to pay for another company to come out on an emergency type thing because it was such a bad situation. We had to pay out of pocket for that.

So far, I've used AHS once and it's been seamless. The AC went out and it was during the heatwave. I called the 800 number. The guy I talked to was really helpful. We figured out which kind of person cause I wasn't sure if it was an electronic issue as in like the wire or if it was the box. He let me know, "I can't put both under the same ticket." He said, "If we send out an air conditioning guy, he's probably gonna know whether or not it's the wiring or the box." I said, "Okay, cool." Then we were good to go.
He set everything up. Before I was even off the phone with him, I got the email that said the people will call me. If there was even remotely a hiccup, it was that I had to call the AC people and even then that was minor. The email said, "If they don't call you in 24 hours, get ahold of them." I waited my 24 hours. Then I went ahead and called them up. They said, "We'll be out on Saturday morning.” The technician guy was here for an hour and knocked on our door and said, "Turn it back on. Set it really low to get it to make sure that it works. Here's your pink slip. We'll see you later." And he took off. It's been working fine ever since. It was totally painless.

AHS is a blanket of protection and I've never needed the warranty until I had a garbage disposal that wasn't running. And seeing that the garbage disposal's cost, it basically paid for itself. For this claim, the tech called me at first and did a consultation. I told him what it was doing and what I was trying to do to fix it. I tried the reset button and to pump a little Allen wrench underneath and spin. All that worked initially, but then all of a sudden, all that stopped and nothing would work.
The tech said that I needed another garbage disposal and asked me what kind I had. I told him that I didn't know but asked if I could send him a picture of it when I got home. He said that was perfect and when were were on the phone, I told him that there was no rush and that he could take his time because it was not life and death. But he messaged me and said he had time that evening. He just got off a job and asked if he could stop by and take of it. And he stopped by and did it. He was great.

I was upset that I thought I would just buy it and not get upset. I have severe anxiety and panic attacks, which was why I didn't want to get upset. The house is very long and large so there is one air conditioner and one heating system on one side of the side as well as on the other side. The air conditioner broke and the contractor wouldn’t come and fix it. So, I got a new air conditioner and a new furnace. This was the one on the other side and not the one that the contractor fixed a few days ago.
Both dishwashers were not working and I didn’t want to call AHS because I didn't want to go through the anxiety and getting angry. So, they're still broken. But I had to pay for a new refrigerator, and a new air conditioning and heating system. That should not have happened as I have paid American Home Shield over 25 years. I’m blind and I suffer from high anxiety, and I shouldn't have gone through that. I’ve calmed down but I'm still upset because it cost me a lot of money.

He said he had to turn in paperwork to see if we can get approved by American Home Shield to get it fixed. The guy was nice. Most of the guys that I talked to were nice too.
