My oven was malfunctioning. I did a claim submission for it completely electronically on the phone, with the robot person. That was actually faster than previous times with an actual person. I would have rather spoken to an actual person, though. The company that American Home Shield is working with in my area was Express Appliance and they were the fastest I've ever had with my claims. They did a virtual appointment within two days, which was very quick. The gentleman on the other end ordered the part that was needed for my oven. He said that when I got the part, I was to call them and they would set up the scheduling.
Eight months ago, my dishwasher broke. From the point I called, it took about three or four weeks before someone would even come and look at the unit. It then took an additional four to six weeks for the part to come in and an additional couple of weeks for the service people to come and fix it. We didn't use the dishwasher as much for two months because the spinny thing on the bottom was broken. The company this claim was assigned to was terrible. My refrigerator broke about a year and a half ago and it was the same thing. It took a month and a half. When something like the refrigerator is broken, you want it tended to quickly. At that point was, my refrigerator was leaking and making all kinds of weird sounds.
I'm happy to have the protection from American Home Shield. But regarding the company we worked with a couple of times on our appliances, I was not pleased with their service based on the time and everything. They sucked. Express Appliance, on the other hand, was excellent and I like them a lot. They were very responsive. The gentlemen identified the problem within five minutes via a virtual FaceTime and the part was ordered immediately. I got the part by the weekend. And the gentleman was here to install it two days later.

I was able to speak with someone at AHS but I don't think she really understood what I was asking for. I did two claims. One was for the plumbing issue with the faint sewer smell and I liked the tech who came out for that. He walked me through everything step by step and told me what I need to do to prevent the smell from going through my house again. But I also did a claim for our heater to get serviced and the claims rep ended up sending out an electrician. I need that one to be taken off because we're charged $75 every time someone comes out. Also, everything needs to be filled out exactly and boxes need to be checked and I felt like it should be something based on the actual complaint. I should be able to say I need someone to come and check my heater without the claims rep trying to figure out what to fill in in order for someone to come out to my house.

The AC stopped cooling and the tech from JJ's Fire and Ice did a wonderful job with it. He replaced a part and the unit started cooling. But it's not cooling again and it's hard to get ahold of AHS on the phone. They seem to want me to deal with their computer and I need to talk to somebody about the situation because I'm hoping I shouldn't have to pay another $125 fee. I don't think this problem was solved when the guy came out.

The AC was not cooling. The air conditioning company came the next day that we called. Then, they had to come back again the same day because the problem arose again during the day. They ended up changing the motor on the AC unit. They were excellent. The only thing is that I'm trying to figure out what's the benefit of Home Shield if I got to pay a monthly payment, and then when I call them for a service, I got to pay another fee in, and then depending on what the issue is, I got to pay the contractor as well. If I'm gonna spend all that money, I may as well save my annual payment to Home Shield and just pay for the corrections myself.

The washing machine would run, but it would leave the clothes very wet. I tried to figure out what it was doing, and I finally figured out that it just wasn’t spinning the clothes so that they would be dry enough to go in the dryer. I did a little checking on it. I replaced the belt because that was one of the quick and easy things to try, and that didn't make any difference. My son and I checked the water pathway. It didn't seem to be blocked. So, I finally called American Home Shield.
A guy came out, and he spent some time on it. Then he told me what the problem was. He didn’t go into great detail, but it was something about the control connection to the motor. There was something wrong in there and it had to be replaced. They ordered the parts and then they called me. During that period of time between his first visit and when the parts came in, my wife died. So, I told him I just really couldn’t talk to him right then. Then another day or so, they called and made an appointment. He came out and he fixed it, and it's working fine. He said he had to replace the motor because of some kind of electronic part on it, and then also the control part that went up to the the brain of it. I was very satisfied. As far as being a part of AHS, it has been great. They have done as expected, and it’s been perfect. They were professional and did everything that I needed.

Our AC wasn't blowing cold air at all. I had been having the problem on and off for more than six months. The tech came in and fixed it, and it's been blowing cold ever since. What he said was there was a wire in the actual unit that had become disconnected. He simply reconnected it and it started working. I filed the claim to American Home Shield and within 15 minutes, somebody was calling me to set up an appointment. So, it was good. Having American Home Shield and being able to pay a simple service fee makes you address the issue much more quickly than if you're pondering if this is gonna cost you thousands of dollars.

We had issues with American Home Shield in the beginning because when the initial contract was set up, none of our information was listed. The home warranty was purchased as part of the sale of the home and the buyer purchased the home warranty, but it only had his information. So when I called to request service, the reps couldn't help me because I didn't know any of the information that they needed to be able to confirm the contract. The address that was listed was also incorrect. We contacted our Realtor who was able to contact a local representative here in Tucson, who worked through the issues, and later that day, I was finally able to go online and request service.
I tried first to call and do it over the phone. The changes must still not have registered all the way through the system but I was able to request the service online. I requested to have our AC looked at. There are two units and the technician said he only had authorization to look at one unit. I didn't list a specific unit. I just said AC system. So, while he was there, I had to call to get authorization for him to look at both units. The individual who came was very informative, courteous and polite. He explained everything that he was going to do. So far, the steps that he took seemed to have remedied our problem. We haven't had any continuing issues with the air conditioning units. This is an older home and we were happy to have the home warranty in place to hopefully lessen our total out-of-pocket. So, if our service, during the duration of this contract, continues to go well, we would probably end up purchasing our own home warranty.

The whole claims process was fine. It was all done online. Everything is automated, so it came back quick, and the service company that they assigned got ahold of me within 24 hours. The downside was it took almost three weeks to get the service company, W.L. Brady, out here because we were in the middle of a heatwave, and it was our air conditioner that failed. So they were busy taking a bunch of different clients. I've had W.L. Brady assigned before and when they were here, they did fantastic work. When I spoke to the woman on the phone, she was very understandable and polite. She said, "You can try getting back to AHS." But chances are, anybody else that would reassign is going to be the same length of time out, and it's just going to put me further back in the queue, and I didn't want to deal with that.

I had a claim for my AC to be replaced as it was not working. Service people evaluated and assessed it. They said they will forward it to American Home Shield. Somebody has to evaluate, approve, and give me feedback. I am now waiting for somebody to sign. I begged American Home Shield to find whoever is supposed to sign to just sign or tell me what the outcome is going to be. Somebody needs to come back to me and tell me how much I'm supposed to pay. But I don't get their feedback. Also, I have been calling and the staff are really good. It's just when I talk to one person, the information is not passed on to anybody. I come in and I start the process again. I'm getting more frustrated. I’ll wait till tomorrow and call again. This claim with the air conditioner started back in April and it has been lagging on and on. American Home Shield should get back to me and I shouldn't have to be calling. I want them to be prompt with feedback.

The freezer in the refrigerator was not cooling. I opened a ticket and I got an email saying that AHS found a company and I could contact them, and I did that. The lady there scheduled me right away and the technician was here in two days. He was quick, kind, very professional, and wonderful. I just wish that AHS could have more companies on their list for refrigerator repairs. This company was a little backed up, a bit busy, and couldn't come fast. It wasn't a big issue for me, but maybe for others, it could mean big families without a backup fridge. Before, I always had people come in here fast for the AC and stuff. But then with COVID, they might be short-handed too.

One time, I'm very happy with Home Shield. Then one time, I'm not. It depends on the service call and the person who I talk to. I had an issue with my water heater back in 2020. The people came and saw that it wasn't installed properly. According to the city ordinance, it was not secured against the wall. That was the service done by Home Shield. I told them what happened and that it was their service. I haven't touched anything. We went back and forth. I called so many times, and they didn't fix my issue.
However, I was happy was when my furnace went down. According to San Diego Gas Electric, they came and replaced the whole thing without giving me any headaches. That was the service I liked, not going through the detail telling me this and this. I am not a professional to know. For the COVID, I understand that it takes longer to dispatch the company or professional to come to see. It took 10 days. But this last call I made about my air conditioning wasn't that bad. The guy came and diagnosed everything for me so everything is good. I'm satisfied with that. When it's plumbing or some issues with my appliances, they're going to take care of that without giving me headaches. That's why I kept the Home Shield now. I'm thinking about switching but right now, I am kinda happy with the service I am receiving.

I've got two accounts with American Home Shield, one is in Georgia and the other in South Carolina. I placed a report on the house in Georgia, where I had a problem with a refrigerator that had built up mold. The technician from Sears came and did a great job. AHS took care of it. I'm very pleased with the response and the way that was handled.
But I had a claim in my South Carolina house and it was an ongoing situation for about six months. A plumber from Royal Flush came out and was trying to resolve a moisture problem. He cut a hole in my kitchen floor that was about 2-foot by 2-foot through the wood floor and the cement, all the way down to the ground. He found the pipes but there was no water. He was a nice guy, but he could not resolve the problem. My problem with AHS is they paid for the plumber, but my floor was ruined. And Royal Flush, who made the hole, wouldn't fill it. I lived with that hole on my floor for three weeks.
Also, I called and I talked to one of AHS's agents and they told me that they would cover up to $1,000 for my floor. That would have been better than nothing but then, I was told by one of their supervisors that it wasn't covered. I waited on them to resolve what they were going to do to help me. After dealing with this for months, I just got a handyman to come out and fill the hole up. Then, I still had a problem with the wood floor and had it done a week ago. It was 700 square feet of flooring that I had to pay for out of my pocket and this problem had been going on for six months. I was lead around and I was told a half dozen wrong things. I can't say the number of times that I made the phone call and was told they had turned this over to a locksmith, although it has nothing to do with a locksmith.

A contractor came out and replaced the capacitor in the AC unit that had gone out. They did give me a call before they showed up and kept me involved every step of the way. This is probably the fourth claim I’ve filed under the plan and they're always very quick. When we bought the house, AHS was a closing gift. We ended up using it the first year and have renewed it every year thereafter. Sometimes it's challenging to get people out because of the nature of the economy right now but they always get out there and usually, problems are corrected the first time.

Every time we've had an issue, American Home Shield has been able to come out and had an appropriate response. Every time that we've asked, they've provided. It's worth it. The money spent on the monthly fee has been well-covered in all the requests that we've made. Recently, our garage door opener only functioned half the time when we pressed the button. I submitted a claim through the website and it was easy. The repairman needed to fix some sensors, and it worked perfectly every single time we tried it, but then this morning, it decided not to work again. What he did helped, but it was not perfect.

I've been a real estate agent agent for 13 years, and I have a couple of accounts with American Home Shield. I've had good experiences with them. I usually call in for service requests and I try to give as much information as possible, so the contractor has the parts and equipment needed to do the job. I had a good experience when the contractor came out for the exhaust in one of my bathrooms and for the doorbell. The claims process is really good. My only issue is AHS not honoring what they promised. When my contract was renewed last year, my price went up from 48 to 62. So I called customer service regarding it. The rep I spoke with the first week of December said that she can lower my price down to 52 on that day. She also said that I will get a $75 credit towards one of the service calls that I will use in the future. But apparently, they've been charging me 62.99 all this time. I have tried calling customer service about six times so far and I haven't gotten an answer from them. Every time I spoke with a representative, they said they’ll look into it and then give me a callback, which never happened till this day. I'm still paying 62.99 out of my pocket every month.

We're in Minnesota and our home is in Arizona. When Bob, the guy watching our home, checked our house, the thermostat said it needed new batteries. He did that and after a time, he checked everything and it wouldn't kick in. He thought there was something wrong with the unit. We did a claim and were able to coordinate with him when American Home Shield's contractor came in. When the fellow came, the unit was running. But Bob had a lot of questions for him and he said he took the time to answer everything, help him out and show him what to do in case it happened again. It was all resolved. Bob said the guy couldn't have been nicer and he would definitely recommend that company. We did the service twice with AHS and it's been great both times. We definitely are happy.

The service ticket I raised about the pool and spa had to have two vendors to come and look at my stuff. When the first vendor came over, he said that there was a frog in the circuit board and due to it, the whole circuit board got fried. It’s a pest damage, so they cannot repair it. Whereas when the other guy came up, he confirmed that it was not a pest damage, but it was rather some sort of electrical surge. It was technically nothing because he fixed it in about two minutes on the spot. So far, my experience has been good with AHS.

There was a bumping noise on the dryer and when we requested AHS for a service, the claims process was great. The people at American Home Shield were fantastic. It took almost two weeks to get that done and when I called in to American Home Shield, they took care of it right away. They bent over backwards to get stuff done for me after they found out about the other contractor. It was an automated system that popped these guys up for them but I made a a phone call and talked to the representative. He was outstanding and he immediately got everything done. American Home Shield's claims process was hell. When I called, I talked to a regular person and I gave all the information needed. Then, they transfer me over to this person I could barely understand and I had to repeat the whole thing all over again. She didn't speak English and she was in a foreign country somewhere. She said I had to take a video and I didn't know how to do that on my phone. It was horrendous. We've been with AHS for years and the few times I've had to call, I never really had a problem contacting them until this one. But the tech's service was perfect. I like that with AHS, I don't have to shop around and have already negotiated rates in advance and I can get an expert on hand at a moment's notice. The process is also very quick. I don't have to wait many days. I get instant feedback text-wise as soon as I hit that submit button almost. For our AC claim, a certain part wasn't turning on, or if it was turning on, it only turned on for a very small amount of time. When the techs showed up, it happened to be running fine. But when they went out and ran their checks on it, it did die again. So, they went ahead and they put a little thing on it that jumps it to make sure it will start. Once they did that, it comes on every time guarantee and it's finally cooling correctly.

American Home Shield's website was great and super easy to use. The MyAccount process was fantastic, although it took me a little while to get logged into it. I had two items I requested service for via the website and then, I received a text with the name of the company they assigned it to and their contact info. I submitted the claim at 10 o'clock one night and I got that text about midnight that same night. I assumed it was going to be scheduled by AHS but when I checked the next morning, I needed to call the contractor, The Lindsay Company, to get scheduled.
I called them to schedule my appointment and they were extremely professional and wonderful on the phone. I was not able to put all the information about my situation on the ticket submission on the website. What was not on there was that I had a situation where water was flowing into my drain and overflowing. There was no way to put that kind of urgency on the ticket. And Lindsay couldn't get somebody out here until the following day. I called AHS back to try and expedite that situation but talking to them took me a little while longer. If I had pulled out my ticket from The Lindsay Company, it was still gonna be at most a guaranteed 24-hour time so I did not cancel with the contractor. We kept that and we managed it ourselves until the following day.
The Lindsay Company was fantastic and they did a really good job of addressing that item quickly. The only issue was that my wife didn't know about the second item on the ticket and Lindsay had not reviewed their work orders to confirm that. I had to call them back after they had left and they came right back and took care of the second item. I had a really good experience with both American Home Shield and The Lindsay Company.

I'm grateful that I have American Home Shield for instances when things break down. But I was a little upset about what happened with my air conditioning recently. I had called for service and the gentleman came out and he was supposed to fix the Freon leak. But it continued to leak. A couple of weeks later, I noticed hot air coming out of my vents, and so I requested more service. The whole time, Freon had been leaking out and I had to pay $500 to refill it. American Home Shield covers $10 per pound, which is like nothing. I didn't realize Freon was so expensive.
The warranty is very good to have because I don't have cash upfront to pay for a new air conditioner. It's nice to have Home Shield to help me till I can get there to save the money. Their claims process is beautiful. I love it. Everything can be done online. It's quick. The return calls are quick. I really appreciate that aspect of it. It's professional and done very well. Every service is very similar in that when you call someone out to fix, they're going to be of the same caliber and it's probably not someone that you would choose. For my claim with AHS, a guy came out this week and fixed my air conditioner. However, the fuse blew that night so I had to resubmit another claim. That was another $135 and I've got $270 into the service calls. When you file a claim, you have to pay a fee. So I've got two claims I had to pay for, for the same deal. I could’ve hired somebody to fix it for less than what I had to pay them. If they don't fix something, you shouldn't have to pay them again to have people come back. When you fill out the claim on the website, it says, “Was it fixed?” You say, “No, it was not fixed.” And it takes you again to where you have to pay them again to have them come out here. That could turn into a racket pretty easily.
But the tech was good. However, my air worked for about two hours and then blew the fuse again. If he had been a little more thorough, he wouldn't have to come back and I wouldn't have to pay an additional $135. Also, when I called AHS, the lady I spoke with had very broken English. I had a difficult time communicating with her. But I had a few water leaks in the past and they did those okay.

Other people that have AHS always say, “Whatever we call for them to fix, they always give us a reason to say they can't fix it.” But I tell them, we haven't had any problems. We have plenty of things fixed. We've had a microwave replaced. We've had the air conditioner fixed several times. We had the refrigerator and the garage fixed. Every appliance we have in the house that can be fixed. Even the washing machine. The only thing that we didn't qualify for was when we had a refrigerator that went out outside, the ice thing. I hated that refrigerator too. So we got another one 'cause nobody ever uses the water thing anyway. So mostly all the appliances we have had that have broken down, we have had fixed.

I'm very happy with American Home Shield and the contractor. The washing machine is pretty new. But it would not agitate and fill up. Also, the digital display was going crazy. It was doing whatever it wanted to do. Thomas was professional. He did exactly what he was supposed to have done. He came here, evaluated the situation, and made the washing machine work. He said something about a motherboard. In the meantime, he bypassed some stuff only he could do. He knew exactly what he was doing. He made it work in the meantime so we could get our clothes washed because it was starting to mount up. And then, when he got the part ordered, AHS took care of the rest. He came here, did his job, and left. He was done and gone in 15 minutes.
AHS is second to none. They have stepped up every time I called them. They have taken care of me. I've referred them to three people and of them have picked AHS as their personal warranty company. Both of my daughters are new homeowners and they both picked up AHS. I will never not be a customer of AHS.

American Home Shield is a good product that you can count on. When you weigh the cost of some major components versus paying $50 a month for this type of product, it makes sense to have it. I've had their service for three houses and I recommend it. It's something every homeowner should have. Some of the challenges with it are when you use their product, there will be additional charges such as Freon or the service call itself. You also don't always know exactly what things are gonna cost you. But generally, the out-of-pocket expenses are gonna be much less than if you have to replace an AC or have a major repair. That's the upside. Another downside is that the company will do the minimum and the van that comes to do the work is gonna be an unmarked one. You're gonna get a somewhat generic service but it is gonna keep your systems up and running.

I'm trying to figure out if I want to spend money on that or just do without it. But it's not Home Shield’s or the company's fault. They've done their damnedest to try to fix it. But the evaporator coil was bad. My only complaint is their automated system. Whatever it is can never get straight there. I have to keep demanding to talk to a representative because it's not recognizing what I want. I say air conditioning, and it comes back as saying that the service is not covered. Well, if I don't get AC, I don't need to spend about $85 a month. Talking to a human is much better. Nonetheless, I love the service.

Do you have the part?” I said, “What do you mean do I have it?” He goes, “Would you have a breaker like this? Probably in the garage. Let's go see.” He then goes, “This one will work,” so we put our breaker in. I was out of town, and I told my husband, “I don't think that’s legal. I don't think they're allowed to do that.” Our AC then quit working again and he came out and said, “Oh, it's the thermostat.” I said, “Okay, y'all have to order it.” He goes, “I hate ordering through American Home Shield because they just order crap.”
We have two units in our house because our house is so big. The other unit went out, and AHS sent him out to fix that one. He goes, “Oh, you got a leak in the copper tubing.” I said, “We do? That seems awfully funny because when it quit, it was still cooling and I shut it off.” He goes, “Yeah, you've lost nine pounds.” He had me come out there and I could hear hissing when I walked around that side of the house. I said "Is that Freon?" He said yes, then I said, “What are you letting it leak out for?” The guy was mad at American Home Shield. When he left, he goes, “If it works, it works. If it doesn't, I don't have to worry about it. I don't do their work anymore.” Free Air then got in trouble. A new company was sent out, and we didn't have a leak. It was the compressor.
American Home Shield only pays $10 for Freon, and Freon's $45 a gallon now. We had to pay 300 and some dollars for that. With the warranty company we had in Arizona, we didn’t have to pay anything for Freon, so I'm leery on this. Also, I called American Home Shield and they said, “We're waiting for the contractor to order the parts.” I said, “No, you're not. You might as well quit lying to me because you ordered the parts.” “Oh, no. We didn't order the part.” I said, “I'm gonna give you one more chance to quit lying to me.” “Oh, we did order the part.” I asked for a customer service supervisor to call me, and every time, it took them 35 days.
With this pandemic, it's hard to get people to work now, but what American Home Shield needs to do is work more with their customer service people that answer the phone. They need to train them and get the ones that speak good enough English. They also say they're compassionate. One lady out of Trinidad was, but customers get them out of the Philippines, and they're not nice people.

I put in a claim last week because our dishwasher had caught on fire, and the process was straightforward and simple. With American Home Shield, you can do a claim online, or you can call them in. I prefer to call them in. It was just calling the number and giving them some information. The guy who was assigned is local and I heard of him by reputation before. He came out the next day, and he was courteous, professional, and took a look at it quick. Everything was good. He said that he sent off the serial number to American Home Shield and said that it needed to be replaced. Overall, the service went great, but I wanna know what the next steps are.

The air conditioner went out. The line was broken outside on it and the fan kept running. My husband turned off the power. I filed everything online and I received text messages as to what was going on, what was going to go on, and what was in process. The contractor came out and in less than 15 minutes, they fixed the problem. Everything worked. It was like clockwork. I have no complaints whatsoever and I highly recommend American Home Shield to everyone that I speak with. Their service was excellent.

My air conditioner wasn't working. I called American Home Shield on a Friday and the person that took it the first time had a problem with communication. In the process, I told her that we had gone away for five days, and when we came back, I opened the garage door, and there was water all over the garage floor. Apparently, she put in the garage floor was flooded. I called on Monday to see what was going on. American Home Shield doesn't do a third-party thing so they cancelled it. They sent a tech that arrived quickly. It ended up being a clog and it was fixed in 20 minutes.

I was selling the home, and the home inspector came out and noticed that there was a crack in the heat exchanger within the furnace unit itself. Based on the age of the units and the location that it was in, it was deemed that the unit had to be replaced. I worked with one of American Home Shield's agents and she put me in touch with somebody that eventually called back and set up the appointment. Then Rush Heating and Cooling came out and installed a new furnace for me. When they installed it, they were attaching it to the other end of my unit so there was some additional metalwork, and gas work, and electrical work required for that.
I had phenomenal service with Rush. I was nagging when I contacted them. I was trying to understand where we were in the process, and if they had received the furnace yet. The woman up front was super kind and always kept me in the loop of what was going on. Then they called me back because someone else had canceled and got me bumped up a little bit, which really helped a lot. The install technician guy was super professional. He got there right on time and he was in and out fairly quickly. It took him about three hours to do the work, which was great. The new unit is quieter and more efficient. At this point, I noticed my energy bill was down. So I was very pleased and satisfied. I was happy that I got American Home Shield because I know how expensive that can be. I was impressed at how quickly the items were resolved, and the customer service that I received as well.

It was quite hot in the house and the tech said that there definitely needed some more insulation and some turbines put in. He was nice and informative, and he changed our filter. That's all he could do though. He doesn't do the insulation, so we had someone else come out after him. They're going to put in insulation next Friday and they’re gonna put in a solar fans. The fan that we had were bringing in the heat, and there was nothing to take the heat out of the attic, which is why it was a bit hotter. All in all, having American Home Shield is nice when they can fix the problem and we only pay that small fee for it, especially when we had a guy up for the oven. He had to order a new element for inside the oven and it worked.

AHS has been beneficial. We've been nothing but pleased. When I submit a claim, I just go on to my portal and click. I look through what I need serviced, whether it was refrigerator, for appliance, or the fan for electrical. Hit that, and then immediately I get a text that says a provider will be in contact with me. And it's really usually quick, within an hour I get a call from a contractor. They've been really great with scheduling. We've gone through a couple of other home warranty companies, and by far, this has been the best service.
The tech for my recent claim was great. We had a power surge on a fan that blew out the motor. He had the parts with him. He repaired it within 20 minutes. He was calling to follow up, to check to see that the freezer is keeping cool, let us know that the ice maker is being ordered, has really done a nice job with checking to make sure there's nothing else that he can do until the ice maker comes in.

When submitting a claim, I just call and tell American Home Shield the problem. They ask for my number and they tell me who will be coming out. When somebody comes out, he fixes it and it's okay. Sometimes I can get one that comes out and doesn't have parts. They'll tell that they'll be back. I had one problem as the parts didn't come in and the man had to come in from Texas on the air condition. But he came back twice and had it running. I tell anybody that American Home Shield is good. People should get it because they're going to need it as something's gonna happen sooner or later. A lot of times, they don't have the money all at once to get something fixed. But if they had American Home Shield, they just pay the claim fee and they can get stuff fixed.

The service from the guy that came from Brick Street Plumbing was wonderful. He told me what time he was going to be here and he came in. He was pleasant, even greeted me by my name. That was nice. I have four bathrooms and I don’t have trouble with two but he looked at all four. He told me what was needed to fix the issue and what he had to do. He fixed it and he was out. Also, he put some little slipper things on his feet so he wasn't tracking in my house. American Home Shield has been pretty good. My experience with American Home Shield was very efficient and streamlined. The plumbing failed on the toilet in the shower recently. The claim came through with the toilet. I thought it was the trap itself but it ended up being the whole rear assembly. For the shower, it was the knob that goes onto the showerhead that was the issue. The plumber was very approachable. He answered all my questions and went above and beyond. I thought I was gonna need a whole new toilet but he went with a lot cheaper route. The only thing I was confused about was I couldn't find an actual section for the shower, so I thought it was under plumbing/piping.

SDL Plumbing didn't end up doing the work. I had my own contractor do it, and I had cashed out on the water heater from American Home Shield. SDL came out and took a look at the appliance, said it needed to be replaced, did a written estimate and was gone in five minutes. Then, I had another interaction with their scheduler once they got authority to do whatever little they plan to do off the warranty. In the end, it turned out to be about what I expected, which was to have about 60% of the cost covered, as opposed to what SDL was doing, and AHS was reporting to me, that essentially would have me paying about 105% of what the cost would be. SDL has complaints with the Better Business Bureau for a pattern of putting in their estimates, terminology or pricing, that it does not qualify under home warranties.
The service requests to with American Home Shield are easy, and the communication on that side has always been easy. But this was the first major appliance that had significant repair cost, and I pretty much immediately ran into difficulties. The only reason they were able to be resolved is because I called my realtor who called the AHS rep, who then called me and said, "Oh, you can cash out on the water heater. I can send you a check for $946." That was not offered at any other point in the process. Calling into customer service was useless because they didn't have any authority. They just said, "Sorry, can't tell you how much we're paying, and this is what you're paying."

In the middle of the night, the AC started making this small noise and then it kept getting worse and worse. This was over the course of 20 or 30 minutes and we started to feel the air changed as there was a vent blowing right on me. I got a flashlight and went out. The outside fan was not moving. I ran back inside the house and turned it off. I set the claim up in a link I have. Once I got to the website, I filled out a small form.
CityLine Air Conditioning called right away. They sent a small little personal profile about the technician, his hobbies, and a picture of him. I was very comfortable even before he got here as I knew him a little more than just an AC tech. I was secured that I could match his picture when I answered the door. He was very nice, polite, and wore booties in and out of the house. The AC is working, it's just that I can hear a little bit more sound. It could just be changing out the part from "a Trane motor" to a generic motor. I’ve had nothing but great experiences with American Home Shield.

For the amount of money that I'm paying monthly, when something catastrophic fails, AHS is an invaluable service. There was a part in my AC that went out and that costs $5,000. I submitted a claim earlier this month on a Thursday because there was a bathtub that was fully stopped up. But I cancelled it over the weekend because there was no way we could go with a bathtub with standing water for several days. Then, I got a call from a plumber the next Tuesday and by that point, my husband had already worked on the issue and fixed it and I had already cancelled the claim. For a different house, I put in a claim for the refrigerator that had gone out in the garage. The tech said the issue was that the coils were dirty and AHS doesn't cover the issue. I asked him if he could help and he did but didn't charge me for it. But then, the thing went out a week later and it's been out ever since for months. We tried to buy a new one and didn't even go through Home Shield because it's so ridiculous.
Also, our air conditioner is three years old and every year it has a leak and we're stuck with it. Recently, it wasn't working correctly so I called to have it checked. Martin's Heating and Cooling came out and they checked it over. They said it was low on Freon and we paid like 250 bucks to get it filled. We've been meaning to cancel with AHS for a long time. I'm not happy. Even when my dishwasher was going out, all they want to do is fix it. They don't want to replace stuff. And they're very difficult to get ahold of. I do everything I can online. The techs were prompt in the way they came out and they diagnosed the air conditioner. We replaced the duct work, which was what they were saying caused the issue as to why it wasn't cooling because the rodents had eaten some of it. So rather than cooling the garage, it was cooling the attic part of the garage. The AC is still not cooling the way that it was supposed to cool and our garage is extremely warm. The AC is set on 82 and it's registering 91. They're gonna say the insulation but we haven't had this issue before like this. We've had plenty of claims with American Home Shield and we've had some issues. It’s next to impossible to get to speak to somebody and they're like an insurance company that would deny a claim on anything. So I'm not a big advocate of American Home Shield.

That's happened before where someone didn't come out right away, but they already got my 100 bucks. On the other hand, I can’t stand trying to find different people, like who do I call when I need a plumber? With American Home Shield, it’s easier. Recently, our AC’s condenser fan wasn't working. We had a big storm here in Pahrump. All the power went out and when it came back on, the AC didn't come back on. I told American Home Shield that I was an elderly person and please get somebody out here. But it took them 48 hours for the air conditioning company to come out here and take care of it. The tech asked me if I told American Home Shield that I was an elderly person and I said I did. But I never got to talk to anybody. It was all on a computer. Everything was automated. I didn't even know that they got the information until I called the air conditioning company. The tech told me, “I'm sorry, I can't get somebody out there until the next day. I didn't know it was an emergency.” The people that American Home Shield is sending are wonderful. But American Home Shield themselves need some work.
The tech that came out for the AC was great. He showed me everything that he was doing and told me everything that was going on. Within about 20 minutes, he had the air back on. But I've had other experiences with American Home Shield that was not that great. I bought this home in April and less than 30 days later, my hot water heater went out. It took American Home Shield over a week to get somebody out here. By then, I was having water damage because of the hot water heater. It was flooding underneath. So it ended up ruining my flooring in the kitchen. I called American Home Shield about that and they said they couldn't cover that because it wasn’t part of the hot water heater. After three weeks of arguing with them, they finally said, “Okay, we're going to come out and replace it.”
American Home Shield called me the day the contractor was supposed to be out and said, “Oh, we've never ordered the hot water heater. Can we just go ahead and give you $800 for the replacement of the hot water heater? But you have to send us a receipt by a reputable plumber that did everything.” So I bought my own hot water heater and put it in. That whole thing cost me over 800 out of my pocket.

However, it took a long time just to get somebody out here. The first people got the contract and never showed up. And then they were like, "Oh, we can't see you for another two months." I said, "Well, why did you take the job?" But then we called back and AHS got ahold of Veteran Air Service. They were responsive. They took care of it. They came to us without us having to like scramble to try to find somebody. We live in a small town. So it's limited on what we have access to. And it's a lot of word of mouth type of thing. And the people here aren't necessarily the most reliable. If you know them, then they will do good work. If you're just somebody new, like if you've lived here less than 60 years, it's hard to get good help.
So for having them to come out, us not having to shell out who knows how much for that preliminary visit and then, "Oh, well, now you're going to need this." They didn't do any of that. They came in, specifically did the job. They even gave us some advice on air filters. So, having the warranty cut through all the headache that could have happened, had we had to gone through the process ourself. Tat $75 in some places easily being overcharged in the thousands for literally just flushing a line. That and more.

So when I called, the American Home Shield representative told me that I would have to pay another $100 for another contractor to come out. That kind of frustrated me because it was the same issue. So the first contractor didn't fix it. Why do I have to pay again? The rep just said, “Well, it's been over 30 days.” I told her, “I understand that. But here's the thing, it’s doing the exact same thing. What's the point in me having a warranty if every time someone comes out for the same issue, if it's over 30 days, I'm gonna have to pay $100?” We went round and round.
I asked for a manager but she would never transfer me. Then ultimately, she said she would credit me back the $100. But I hadn't seen it come through yet. When the second contractor came, they didn't charge me for the Freon. The tech put a dye in so if there is a leak, they'll be able to detect it. Then he gave me his information so I can call him if I had any issues. When he was here, he educated me. He told me what he was doing and what will happen if there's a leak. The young man came in for my plumbing claim and I told him what was going on. He assessed the situation and he quickly was able to resolve the problems. There were a couple of faucets that were corroded and he changed them. He also put a new stem in another faucet. Also, he took our Allen wrench and adjusted the garbage disposal. He was a very professional and nice guy. He did what he needed to do. He answered all my questions. So that was a pretty good experience. But there are other experiences I've had recently with American Home Shield that I'm not that happy about.
I have American Home Shield contracts on four houses. So I've spent a lot of money with them. When we needed someone to come out to check on some pipe leaks and faucets in my sister's house, American Home Shield recommended a company that my niece kind of knew a little bit about. She looked them up to see how well they are and out of their 12 reviews, 11 were atrocious.
We called American Home Shield and asked if they could send somebody out. We told them we read the reviews on this company and none of them were good. We tried to lay it out to the American Home Shield agent very constructively and say, “We don't want to go down that road because we got stuff that needs to be done, and we want it done right.” But the agent said they can't change the companies that they send to us. I said, “No, we don't want to deal with this particular vendor. You all got to have other vendors.” But she said, “No.” She went to talk to somebody, then came back and said, “No, we can't do it.” So I told her that to give me back the $75 that we put up for the service fee. I'm still waiting now for the refund.
American Home Shield tries to get the least expensive companies that they can put under contract but that's not always the best thing for the customer. It may work out for American Home Shield that they pay out a nice, smaller contractor fee. But if they're providing poor services to the consumer, then that's not the way to continue to have us on the contract.

Everything was fine. American Home Shield handled the claim, assigned it to a plumber promptly, they called me promptly, then they came in my house. The guy was not that experienced. He had to call his office, but I didn't mind that. It was a small job and he just needed a little extra help over the phone and he completed it promptly and it works. It stopped the leak. So, I'm happy.

Everything was good with DNG Appliance Services, but the fridge still doesn't work. At first, a company tried to fix it. They came two times. The fridge still didn’t work. So, we changed the company to DNG. They came a couple of times. They tried to change a lot of things, but the fridge still doesn’t work. Another guy came out, and he said he needed to replace something because it was leaking. We only want the fridge to be fixed because it's too much every time that they take everything out and put something again.
The air conditioner broke, too and it was 120 degrees here in Vegas. We called American Home Shield and stayed on the phone for two hours. They transferred us to some people and to another people. It took eight days before somebody came to fix it. It was too long. It was very bad. Also, sometimes, the people who you spoke with American Home Shield don’t speak English very well. It’s very hard to communicate. Next time, if we’re gonna buy insurance, we’re gonna buy from a different company.

The air conditioning unit was making a lot of loud noise. The technician diagnosed the problem and fixed it in one evening. He was very quick. He had to replace the blade and the motor. He was outstanding. I was very pleased. When I called in the claim, it got a little bit late because of the number of people calling. So you wait on the telephone unless you call early in the morning. If you put in a claim during the week, someone will contact you within 24 hours, and if it's on the weekend, it takes 48 hours.

My pilot light would not stay on. I thought that would have been a simple fix but it ended up being a leaking water heater. So the resolution was to install a new one. The technician was great. He did almost an emergency call and he installed the new heater late on a Friday. He was very polite and he worked quickly. I visited him quite a bit, so I could tell he was very proficient in his job.
My issue now is that, as per my contract, I'm owed $250 for code upgrades. And the thing that's very strange about this whole process is that they send a technician out, they diagnose the problem, and then from a consumer perspective, I was really out of what was being said between American Home Shield and the vendor. The problem is that the contractor is only not charging me for the water heater when there was $1,000 in out-of-pocket expenses based on code upgrades. My contract says that $250 is available for code upgrades through the insurance policy. But I can't get a clear answer on when I'll be reimbursed for that now that I've paid that to the servicer. American Home Shield said to talk to the servicer, and the servicer told me to talk to AHS. So I'm in a little bit of a weird place in that I called American Home Shield, they tried to call the service provider and the service provider was closed.
I called the service provider yesterday. They said that they received the message from AHS, but AHS needs to reimburse them before they'll reimburse me. So there's really no transparency whether American Home Shield understands that they owe $250 more or if they're just going to keep blaming it on the vendor. I'm not happy and I'll end up getting in touch with the insurance commission because it’s definitely a breach of contract.

This is the absolute worse company EVER!!! Their customer service is worse than their empty promises. When I try to get through to a representative, they must train them to hang up on customers because after verifying my information and telling them my situation dial tone always came next. When I did get through to someone and requested a supervisor I was always promised they were putting in a request for one to call me back. 3 request and not one call back.
Eventually, after trying to get my service request expedited because I keep medication in my frig it was a nightmare when I was given authorization to find my own repair person. The headache this experience has given me caused me to cancel my contract and just to rub salt in the freshly opened wound they caused I was charged $93. This has been the absolute worse experience I have had with a company and my biggest mistake was ever starting a contract with you and taking a shot. This has been the most costly mistake and I'm STILL without a refrigerator for my medication.

This company is doing everything they can to NOT replace my cooktop. It has been over 8 weeks and the work I was charged $125 has yet to be completed. Never once in all these weeks have I been able to speak to a supervisor, either at the time of my call or to have my call returned. I have been told that an "authorization department" is the cause of the hold up, but as a customer I cannot speak directly to this department and have been told "it takes a while" with no time frame as to when my appliance will be replaced.
I have been disconnected while speaking to representatives several times just as the representative happens to be promising to send me an email or call me back or verify progress by the "authorization department", forcing me to call back and go through everything with a different representative. Since the original diagnosis calling for a full replacement of the cooktop, American Home Shield never once reached out to me with any update or information. I have been calling at least twice a week for months to get any information and have been told nothing but lies.

My air conditioner stopped working and the tech was very punctual and professional. He went upstairs, and about 15 minutes later, he said, “Hey, it's ready. It was just a fuse.” It was fixed. He did a great job. But at this time of the year when it's pretty hot here in Texas and something as vital as air conditioner goes out during the week or a Friday evening, it's important that somebody gets dispatched. Because I had to wait three days for somebody to come out. Luckily my neighbor had a portable AC that I could use. But it would have been better if they could have fixed it on Friday or Saturday.

The air conditioner was running nonstop. It wouldn’t shut off. My wife did the claim and she said it was easy to file. Then I got a notification through text and email on who the contractor was and when they would be out. The contractor came out to figure out why it was running all the time and they did find one issue. It did work for a little while. They even provided us with some ability to troubleshoot the issue on our own. It was good service but now, we're still having the same issue.
American Home Shield covers a lot already. But there they should include additional coverages on some systems in the house that are pretty common, like sprinkler systems which is a very common thing here in Texas. The repair costs of the sprinkler systems are extremely high. American Home Shield would get some more customers if they covered something like that because initially, that was why we stayed with the other home warranty company that we had.

Our disposal was leaking. It looked like the bottom of it had rusted away and there were holes. I called American Home Shield and J & L Plumbing called me the very next day. I scheduled the visit for the next day and the plumber was here a lot quicker. I thought it might be complicated or it might be really noisy but he was professional. He went in, checked it out then he told me he'd be going back out to his truck to get the new disposal and his tools. He came in a couple of times and went back out a couple of times too. But he was really respectful and knocked on the door before he came back in. He told me what he was doing. At the end, he told me that it was all taken care of.
American Home Shield is a money saver. We had checked out disposals at Home Depot and we would have spent along with installation well over $300 or $400. But all we spent was just that $75 that we had to pay for American Home Shield. That's amazing. I'm not as scared anymore when something breaks down or looks like it might be going south. I know that I can call American Home Shield and get somebody in to look at it and repair it or replace it.

He looked at it and determined that it’d be less expensive to replace it. We had the option of replacing it with another washer although it was not the same quality. We're gonna get the money back which they gave us an option to do and buy a washer here locally. However, it can be expensive when we have an issue with our AC unit. AHS doesn't cover the coolant had they recharged that unit. But overall, the experience has been pretty good. We pay so much money monthly over multiple years, but with a house that is always having issues, it’s been pretty fair.

I had a leak detection company and a mold service company out here, and they said that it looked like the water heater was leaking. I called American Home Shield. The tech who came out was up there and he was very considerate because he had to kind of maneuver around another contractor that was up there. He said it didn't appear to be leaking, but there was something about the low pressure valve. I just can't figure out why I can't take a shower and it does not keep hot water. It hasn't always been that way, but he said that's some kind of low pressure. It’s not anything major though.
I'm done paying $75 a pop to have people come out. I've had five different contractors that has missed so much this year that it caused me to be ill, and it's really disheartening. I had a mold detection company come out, and he said, “Hey, there's a lot of moisture and stuff up here. It looks like your hot water heater is leaking.” But he was the reason I called, because he thought it was leaking.
With AHS, I've been going back and forth with some issues that I've had about the time it takes to resolve things. I called them when our refrigerator was out, and they said it would be seven days. I said, “Y'all need to have other contractors.” I did give American Home Shield a chance and hope I got somebody else. When I called back, I did get a helpful person who did wonderfully.

The AC had been making some noise, and then it just stopped, so I was concerned it would be absolutely dead. But that little thing just kept on going. It's about 46 years old, believe it or not. It was just the fan that had stopped, not the machine itself. Mr. Chris came out and helped me with it. He got it going in half an hour. And it has been great since then.
I like having someone who's got these pre-screened contractors for me, so I'm not out there. But in the past, and we're talking about 25 years ago, we had a problem with some scam artists in town. So, I was concerned about not getting good help when I needed it because I don't know anything about conditioning units. So, having those people pre-screened is great. They have always known exactly what they were doing.
Last year when the air conditioner did something similar, one guy and his name is Mr. Jay, his company is Blue Jay and he was new to Sparks or Reno. I was talking on the phone to him after I called American Home Shield, and he said, "Oh, yeah, I know exactly what's going on with those. I've seen those for years, and I'm surprised yours are still going." Then, he went on, and told me exactly what was wrong with it. But he was two weeks out, so I called AHS. I said, "He's two weeks out, but he's really great." And he went, "Oh, that's not acceptable. We'll have to get someone else for you because that's at a long time. We can't have you waiting that long." They got someone else, and he was out in 10 days. But he told me the exact same thing that Mr. Jay told me. So, I found that they're consistent too. It's great. These people really know. I'm really pleased with their professionalism, and they're friendly and polite. It has been great experiences every time.

When I was shopping for home warranties, I found out that there are multiple options available in the market and even within American Home Shield, I was able to sign up for two different plans. One was an offer outside of the real estate plan that I signed up for and they had more features in that plan. I was tempted to go for that plan but they told me that I cannot run that plan through the title company. So, I had to pay it from my pocket. There were some benefits to the real estate plan but there were some other benefits to signing up on my own. I would rather have more consistency between the two plans because if one is offering the same thing, then the Realtor plan should offer the same thing or at least match what they're offering.
I had one claim submitted to American Home Shield and that was taken care of. The first time I did the claim was through a phone call and later on, I realized I am able to do it online, too. I would rather prefer a way in which I don’t have to wait. So typically, those are if I can do it online. Sometimes, I have to wait over the phone for 15 minutes and that’s not the best use of my time.
AHS can improve on a couple of things but nothing major. It's just continuous improvement. The guy came in and I hoped he was more courteous. But he was fine and he did the job. It ran late though. When they gave me a time that somebody would arrive between 9:30 to 11:30, they should abide by it because I had some other contractors coming in. At the end, the guy showed up late. So both of the contractors had to manage and give way to each other. People do run late and I understand that. It's part of the business. If you get busier, you get held up somewhere but ideally, they should have kept me posted about that. I had to call them twice to find out where they were and what the status was.

I get the right technician to fix my problem.
The only thing was when I called them to schedule service for my dryer, they gave me almost a week before someone came. I had to wash clothes then hang them outside. The electrical guy that came out was absolutely wonderful. He took care of everything that we needed. That has not been our experience in the past. We have had people out for similar situations, and they just ignored the problem. American Home Shield could make sure that their contractors know what they're talking about. I had them come out for our ceiling fans. The switch isn't working properly and the speed is not up to par. I shared that information with them on the phone in getting the order prepared. But when the contractor got here, they said, “We don't do ceiling fans unless they're broken.” One in the bathroom is broken and the technician came up with an excuse that it's over a tub. It wasn't, it's to the right of the tub. It’s just excuse after excuse. It cost us $100 to have somebody come out here and tell us no.
We had an issue with our air conditioner several years back now and the guy didn't even go round the corner of my house good but he was saying they didn't handle it. He didn’t know if it was low on freon. He couldn't even see it very well from the distance he was at. He just assumed he knew what the problem was and we got charged $100. We had to call American Home Shield twice now recently for the microwave and refrigerator. For our plumbing, we’ve had some issues too but the problem resolved itself before the plumber got here. For the refrigerator and microwave, the young man took care of everything. Things were dirty and should have been cleaned off before he left, but he was very sweet person. It was probably the first time in a long time we've had anyone knowledgeable in our home to take care of the issues at hand.
During covid, we had an issue with our light switch. The lights weren't working and we had an issue in the back porch. Come to find out, we've got a shorted wire up in the top part of it and you just get tired of having to call people back out over and over again to take care of the same issue then them coming up with excuses. As for the companies that American Home Shield contracts with to do the work, nowadays, you have people that do not take as much pride in their workmanship as they used to.

We said, “No, thank you.” We hired our own repairman. They did have to replace the compressor of the AC, but they didn't see any need to replace the condenser outside, or a need to replace the furnace.
The contractor was very insistent that we provide him with five stars prior to him entering our house, and I understand why. It's because they wanted to get a rating before he had a chance to try and sell us on everything that was unnecessary. I tried to go back and update my rating and it said that it was closed. I don't recommend Dynasty. But I haven't had any issues with American Home Shield. They didn't ask anything about the contractor’s service. Our claim to American Home Shield on our icemakers in our fridges was a terrible experience. We're probably going to cancel. The first group that came out didn't come out for three weeks. When they came out, they said, “Oh, we can't fix that appliance.” So we had to redo. We had paid, too. When we called AHS to tell them that story, the lady we spoke to said, “Well, you’ll have to pay again.” I was like, “Well, wait a minute. No. You sent somebody out that couldn’t fix the appliance. The appliance hasn't changed. The order hasn't changed.” That was a hassle to get a refund for what we had originally paid both AHS as well as the appliance person that came out and couldn't fix it. Once we got that straightened out, they sent somebody out. They did fix it. None of the appliance people were rude. It was just it was obvious that the left hand wasn't talking to the right hand.
AHS did get a little snappy with my wife. She was like, “Bill, when we get this thing done, you drop them. Because I don't expect to have such an issue like this at the end of the day.” The next group that did come out fixed both freezers. They had to come out a second time to fix some stuff that they didn't have the parts for. A week later, we had to call them back because they didn't fix the whole thing so it wasn't working. The guy that came back out looked at it and was like, “Oh, they should have fixed this from the get go. It's part of the whole thing.” He did fix it.
We were not happy at all with AHS. The three different gentlemen that came out on three different calls were very professional, but the experience was not good at all. We even had an AC claim, and when they replaced that, we had issues. That was replaced in January. The guys that came to fix it were very professional, very nice, but they couldn't fix it. I was thinking to myself, “These guys are doing this for a living and they're having an issue.” The same company came out and did their six-month check on my system. It was working when they left, but we weren't really checking to see if the AC was working, and the minute they left, I had to get on the road to travel. My wife, later that night, said, “Oh, the AC’s not working.”
What ended up happening was the gentleman that came and did whatever check he did cleaned something out of the unit and it clogged up something else. The manager got involved and had it fixed first thing the next morning, but it was like, “Why did we pay this extra service for them to come out for the next two years to check on it and everything and the first time they come out, they break the darn thing?”

I love American Home Shield. They were right on top of things and I was very pleased. The icemaker quit on the refrigerator. We put it off a little bit for a week or so but we noticed that the refrigerator started getting warmer and warmer. So, the food was going to go. We called AHS and we were thinking that they probably wouldn't fix the refrigerator. It's older and they're gonna find an excuse to not fix it. We were skeptical. I did the claim online and within 24 hours, they set an appointment and told us who was going to fix it. The contractor called us right away and they came within that week. The tech ordered the part and he got it running for us that day. A fan was out and he reached in there and spun it, and got it going. He said that hopefully, it would last till the part comes in, and it did. So we didn't lose any of the food. He came right back out and put it in. It's been working like a charm. He was great and it was a wonderful experience.

He also told me how to prevent it in the future.

The air conditioner stopped cooling completely because of the outside fan. I sent in a claim to AHS and paid for it. Then they called me back that evening and set up an appointment for me. The contractor came out and replaced the motor and the fan. Now, it's cooling and the fan is on. But we're starting to hear a high-pitched noise coming from it when it turns on. So we're concerned that it’s not all the way finished being fixed. But I don't know what the protocol is as far as going through the warranty if we have to do that again. Or if the contractor can come back out and double check that everything is okay. But overall, I’ve had great experience with AHS.

I had an issue with the icemaker and the repair company was completely ignoring my calls and texts and at one point, ignoring American Home Shield's calls. It took a long time before AHS could assign it to someone else but they eventually did. The second company was awesome. They did the assessment and found out exactly what was wrong with it. It took a week to send a report back to AHS who made a decision. The cost of repair would exceed the cost of the value of the fridge, so AHS offered a settlement for it. I had another issue with a water heater and that was quick. In three days, they were able to replace it and install a new one. The only thing is that the customer services with AHS seemed to be located offshore and usually, they don’t have access to a lot of information. They have to put you on hold. They’re nice but it was frustrating that it took more than two months to get an issue solved.

The AC unit stopped working completely. I pushed the button and I didn’t see the fan turning. It was extremely hot and that was a high week but American Home Shield was on top of it. The tech came and started the AC unit and looked at it but he didn’t see anything going on. He went through my breaker box and I even checked my breaker box myself. He asked if we had any thunderstorms. I forgot that we had a bad thunderstorm here the night before. The energy from the thunder blew the fuse inside of the AC and I've never known anything like that. But it was very sharp because it kept throwing off my security camera in the back. Every time it hit, my alarm was going off.
The tech got me set up and replaced the fuse. He even gave me the fuse and showed me what size it was. I told him that I don't have the guts to change that. So, I would never do it. He was super great. He opened up the AC and checked everything. He was good. It came down to a fuse and I'm glad it was that simple because I just bought this house and I don't want to replace the AC.

When we called American Home Shield and made the claim, we said the problem wasn’t the ductwork. We already had that done ourselves. I explained that to three different American Home Shield associates. The first contractor that came out said, “Yeah, what we need to do, we need to install a camera inside the vent to see what's going on.” He didn't even do nothing else. So then, I called American Home Shield back and then they hired MS Services. Then I called them and told them what the previous contractor said. They turned around and said they wouldn't be able to do that either. So I was passed back to American Home Shield and I phoned in about four times. It took over 11 days before they came up with the conclusion that they would send out MIS for a second opinion. Why didn’t we just do that at the beginning? The MIS service guy came as planned. He checked the vents and straight away, he knew what the issue was without a camera.
American Home Shield has poor customer service. Their training process could be improved. Before the agent just jumps to a quick answer and passes me to the department to find some other contractors to come out. They could read the notes and read what’s going on. A quick review of the claim would certainly help. A customer won't mind if the agent says, “Oh, is it okay if we just put you on hold for a minute or two, we’ll just review the case?” With my recent experience, I fought with four agents. They just wanted me to get off the phone because they were probably watching out for how long they were on the phone for their stats.
The contractors that American Home Shield sends out are quite good because they come out when they're supposed to. But some of their contractors aren't good. I was gonna cancel the policy because twice, I've made a claim, and the issue was not covered. However, the other claim I made for the electric socket, the guy came out last night as planned. He knew the issue and resolved it. Because of that, I'm not going to cancel my policy. Otherwise, if he had told me, “Look, it’s not covered,” I would have canceled the policy. Because what's the point of having a policy if every time you claim, you're not covered?

Stillhouse Heating was sent out by American Home Shield and they came but didn't fix anything. They said the dishwasher was outdated and had to be replaced. We went down and looked at the models but nobody had the model that we had. They’re all unavailable. The dishwasher is really hard to find. It was an old Sears model. It’s one of the top-of-the-line back in the day, but it’s 30 years old. We finally found a Maytag at Lowe’s, and it’d cost us $300 more but it had everything that our old one had. Home Shield is gonna pay us $599.
The people came out yesterday to install and then they said they couldn’t because there’s a pipe in the way for the drain and there's a long slug. So, we had the plumber here today trying to fix some of those issues. Then we can call them back up and see if we can it get installed. It's just starting to snowball. So far, it's cost us about $500 more.
As far as the claim process with AHS, it was kind of confusing. We had to keep calling them back for a while. But we've usually never had a problem with them. With the claim on the dishwasher, it isn't their fault either. What they do is they contract people to come out and look. They say if what they came out for is repairable, they'll repair it. If not, they report back that it needs to be replaced, and then AHS has to replace it. They replaced a lot of appliances for us. American Home Shield has always been very good to us. We like them.

Agape, the company that was sent out, was able to figure out the issue with the AC and ended up having to order a new unit. It took a reasonable amount of time and then, they came and fixed it. The AC has been working great. Calling a technician would be a lot more expensive than what AHS charges per visit if you’re taking it against the market price. But you probably have to figure in the monthly that I pay as well. Still, in the overall scheme of things, AHS is well worth it because once they assign a technician, someone's gonna call me or I can call and say that I haven't heard back from them, and American Home Shield will follow up.
Sometimes, it's late at night or on a weekend when my family tells me that something is not working so I like that you can call in. I have done so in the past but I appreciate being able to request service online at any time of the day. My mom was complaining to my brother about certain appliances not working properly and he kept not dealing with it. I told him to sign up with American Home Shield. It's so easy. You just request the service and you don't have to do all the legwork of finding someone to come to your house. It was last year that he signed up and I’ve told some other friends as well.

I also like the professionalism of the contractors that come in here. Recently, there was no water coming out from the showerhead in the master bedroom bathroom. Also, it was running cold instead of hot. We had to kind of turn on the regular tap water for it to get hot. There was no water pressure too. It was just trickling out. Submitting the claim was easy but I sometimes wish that we could switch some of the choices that's selected. We had some water retention on some of our floorboards that we could see from our unfinished basement. So we had the tech come out and see if he could find the source of the leak. He thought he found the source, which was the bottom of our dishwasher, and we thought it was resolved. But I checked it out last night and it is still damp. If it was fixed, it would have been addressed. So it's going to be something we may have to call out again on.
Aside from that, we've had quite a few claims with AHS and their process seems to be a pain. It seems that with this warranty that we were sold into, they do everything they can to not have to pay out or really do anything to solve the problem. It’s putting bubblegum on a leaky pipe, so it stops the leaking for a couple of weeks, then we have to call them back out again. And we have to pay another service fee. It’s been a nightmare and I don't know if we're going to continue it again.
People need to understand that they're not in it to actually help you fix the problem, they're in it to get through the term. A perfect example is that I've had an issue with a refrigerator that got fixed this morning and we had somebody come out from the home warranty company to fix it. It was a GE refrigerator and we've been without a refrigerator for two months. And because the parts were delayed, instead of paying out or do something about it, they blamed it on GE. Then, GE came out this morning and said that we should have informed the home warranty company that it was delayed two months and they would have just paid it out. So, I don't have the best things to say about AHS. The warranty seems more like a timeshare con than it is an actual warranty.

The faucets were leaking and corroded because they were 17 years old. The person came and did the job. He had to get a part and he came back, and it seemed to be pleasant. There didn’t seem to be any issues and I was happy with the end result. We ended up getting new faucets because the other ones were bad. But the faucets that we had were better than the ones we got replaced. The replacement was selected for us and we didn’t have a choice. Still, my wife was happy with the experience. I had another claim and the claims rep said the wrong thing. I said I had a pool plumbing problem and the rep put pool pump. So, I had to call back to make sure. The repair guys would have come by and say that the pump is fine, and I would have said that it’s not what I called about. So sometimes, there is a language barrier on the people that American Home Shield hires. But that’s the way it is with everything right now.
I've used AHS quite a few times but I'm moving in two weeks and I'm not using them at the next house. The people that are selling the house had one existing and one thing I'm not happy about with AHS is that when I first started, it was $500. And now, it's gotten up to about $1300, which is absurd. So, the service got to be cost-prohibitive, and where I'm moving right now, they're only allotting $600. So, I had to use their people. But I hadn’t been dissatisfied with AHS over the years, except for when it’s gotten to be way over the cost of what it should be for warranty.

With a home warranty, you're not worried about any breakages and you know you're secured. If there's any recommendations, I'm definitely picking American Home Shield because they are good. The first time I needed AHS, it was for a plumbing issue, but they wouldn't help with that. I was a little disappointed because having old pipes in our house was one of the reasons I got the warranty. Recently, I was just having trouble with my refrigerator doors opening. A clip at the top to make sure that the flap comes over and it has a good seal on the door had come off and the tech fixed it. He was prompt, on time and he did what he was supposed to do. However, the same problem came back and I called them. I don't think it's the tech's fault as he fixed it as well as he could. We're gonna have to come up with a different way to fix it.
Having AHS is convenient if you have something like this that goes on. It gives me a bit of comfort that if any of my major appliances go, they're gonna fix them for me. AHS does a good job. They are also fast at getting back in touch. When I talk to them, they set up appointments fast, and somebody comes out fast. That's pretty good for me. Whenever I called in, the techs came out fast. I didn't have to wait. There was just one time I had to wait. But it wasn't their fault. They didn't have the part for my machine, and then they just replaced it because they couldn't get the part. So it still was good.
When the tech came out for my recent claim, I didn't like his attitude. In French words, I asked him to get out of my house. I didn't know it was the same company when my air conditioner went out again this year for the same thing it did last year. This time around, he came out with another somebody, and the company called and apologized for him. I had to apologize because of the words I used ‘cause he pissed me off.
This time around, it can’t be fixed. Both of my units had gone out. They came out three times for the second unit. He said he fixed it this time around, so hopefully, it’s done. The first one, the big one, is fixed because he changed the thermostat. With the small one, he kept saying nothing was wrong. But as I run it all day, a certain time at night, it kicked itself off and started blowing hot air. That was my upstairs unit. So they did that twice last week and he came out this week.
He said he got it fixed. Right now, it’s working well. But if it goes out again, then I might have a problem ‘cause it’s hot. But, I'm satisfied with the work they did. They improved. This time around was better than last year. ‘Cause the owner came out himself and he looked at it and said that they went back and it's something else they put on it. He said that it should work. I have been with AHS for 10 years here. I also had them at my previous house. When we bought this house here, I transferred the policy here. My daughter recently got AHS too because I told her to go with them because I like the service that they give.

The recent claim was for my refrigerator that wasn't cooling correctly. I found that it was underneath the fans and the contractor had to clean it. AHS is fine but they could improve on getting better people to come. The very first claim we had was right after we moved in to the house and we got to use them with the refrigerated air unit. We found out this year that the contractor put in the wrong size air conditioner. It's workable but they had to rig it.

The ice maker was not dispensing ice. I filled out the claim form on American Home Shield's website. It was easy, and I was given the time I would expect for someone to show up. A second issue came up where the fridge smelled like chemicals and they told me that American Home Shield will not cover that. As long as it was cooling, it was covered. I'm moving and putting the house on the market, so it didn't make any sense to buy a new fridge, so I just got rid of it. Overall, I'm generally happy with American Home Shield's service.

When I got my house back in 2019, I went with the Old Republic. With them, they wanted the money upfront and at that time, I had the money upfront. But then last year, with COVID, it put a strain on me. So, I didn't renew my plan with them. Then, everything started picking up again this year. I reached out to them, but the contact that I had really didn't get back to me. So then I had AHS next in line. My Realtor said, “I have a contact. Just give him a call.” So I did. I reached out, I did my quote and it was just so much easier. I had three payment plans that I could choose from and it was a whole lot easier, especially since I didn't have to fork out the amounts all in one shot.
The claim process of AHS was super easy. With Old Republic, I had asked them, “If I ever need a service, how did this work?” They said, “You would call us and then we would send somebody out to your location. Then you give them the deductible.” With AHS, it was a whole lot easier. All I had to do was tap a button. I did mine at 2:30 in the morning, and then it said, “Make a payment now.” It is a little bit different than what Old Republic is doing. All I had to do was press it and pay for it. Then when the techs showed up, they did their job and that was it. I didn't have to give them any money or “Here's my card,” or anything. AHS is worth getting ‘cause you never know when something's going to happen. When my AC went out, I still don't even have a clue on how much it would have been if I wouldn't have had AHS. I would have had to call somebody to come out and fix my AC.

My air conditioning was out and Home Shield scheduled me 11 days out. It was 95 degrees and there was no way in the world I could have waited for them to respond. I cancelled that one and hired somebody on my own to cover that. That wasn't good. But then I had another claim where GM Appliance Service came over, they discovered the problem was, and they fixed it. I would definitely recommend Home Shield, especially for this area. We've been trying to get things done. I'm still waiting. The last call I had was much more helpful. And maybe we're closed. I was supposed to receive an email with information on a potential buyout. Regardless, American Home Shield is trying to take care of me. I still have no AC and we've been in the 100 degrees for the last six weeks. It's just the reality of the situation. But it is a challenge for me because I certainly can't afford to go out and buy a new air conditioning, which is what has been determined. I can't afford to go out and do that on my own, which is the reason I bought the insurance.
There were some vendors that came and didn't do anything. Then there was, “Oh! That ticket got closed. You're gonna have to open another one.” And then there was, “I don't know. We'll call you back.” We never got a call back. So it has been a little frustrating. I keep being hopeful because I’d really like to have air conditioning. Let's see if we can hopefully get my air conditioning fixed. Or at least get a call to tell me what they're going to do for me because the rep said, “Well, since it's been so long, we may have to offer you a buyout.” And I was like, “Well, whatever. Let's just get it done so I know what I'm doing.”

I like the ease of getting a contractor to the house with having this warranty. It's just that the technicians are typically very aware that it's a very low-paying agreement and so AHS has a tendency to not get anyone that wants to think beyond the obvious. When my breaker box was buzzing, the technician that came wasn't able to find anything wrong. Then it started doing it again, and so he'd be coming out tomorrow. Like in this particular case, “Well, I hear it, but I don't really know what it is. So, if you have any other troubles, let us know.”

When working with American Home Shield, their vendors have 48 to 72 hours to get ahold of the customer to set up an appointment, and I think that's excessive. It's not really customer service friendly. I'm used to people calling back within 24 hours and that's the first thing I have difficulty with. Then the service is not really prompt. My air conditioner went out when it was 114 degrees here in Sacramento and we're seniors. The first vendor they called couldn't make it out for a week. I called AHS back and told them I couldn't wait that long. The lady put me on hold for 30 minutes trying to find another vendor, which was a long hold. But she had another one come out and fixed my compressor that went out.
In my last experience, the fuse blew up twice in the dryer. Getting ahold of the vendor that AHS sent was very difficult. I’d call the number that was given, it would ring, but there was no voicemail set up. Even when I called the vendor on their cell number, their voicemail was full. It was frustrating dealing with them directly. They diagnosed the problem, and part of it was our fault because our vent for the dryer was full, so we had that cleaned and then we redid it again. But as of a few days ago, it went out again, and the vendor couldn't get out until this next Tuesday coming up.
I called American Home Shield back and asked if they could send someone else as the initial vendor was not going to be coming out for almost a week. The lady said they don't reassign it to a different vendor, which is stupid if the customer needs something really fixed quickly or within a reasonable timeframe. She just said basically that it is their process and I just have to live with it. I thought they'd do the same with my air conditioning claim before to speed up the process, but they didn't, at least in this case.
The vendors might be figuring that they only got paid one time, yet they were making three trips out there. It's not a high priority 'cause they aren't making any money off that. But they are getting business from American Home Shield, there should be some sort of priority, especially since it's a recurring one, and they have to come back out again. Also, I didn't know if there's any follow-up with the vendors. When I tell AHS what's going on, they don't call the vendors up or ask what can they do differently. There's no extra effort.

They called me and confirmed I was gonna be home so the technician could come out. The guy came out approximately 45 minutes later and took a look at it. He confirmed that the fan motor seized up and they had to replace it and put a new motor in the fan. One time, our washer was making a noise. We called American Home Shield and the repair company they sent couldn't find the issue, but we were given 30 days. I'll wait to see if I can at least record our washer making the noise it's making to see if I can get the repair company back out here. This last time, we called for our refrigerator and it was a quick response. Prior to that, we had a dishwasher that had some issues, and it went out. This was during COVID, and it was a very long time to get an appointment. We understand that that's an issue that went on with this pandemic. When the company finally came out, they diagnosed everything and couldn't repair it. American Home Shield said, “Okay, we're going to give you credit towards your dishwasher like the agreement says.”
According to the agreement, “Regardless of the condition of your appliance, if they can't get it back working, replace it if necessary.” That's how it was sold to me. When the service guy came out, he said, “Oh, no, your dishwasher, because it's an older house, is hardwired. You need to do a plug-in.” I had to go in there and wire a plug, and then call them back to get the dishwasher installed. That was a huge issue. American Home Shield also said, “You're going to be responsible for disposal of the old unit.” I was not happy about that last claim. I tried to record it, but I never got a consumer call from them. Anytime I'd call over there, I couldn't get ahold of anybody, so I just gave up on that. They're treating a lot of people like this, and it's not right.
Overall, my claim with the refrigerator was efficient, and it’s on the service people that did that. It’s not American Home Shield. With my dishwasher claim, I had an issue with the agreement with AHS. I'm just gonna see what happens with my washer, but into the fall, I'll probably be cancelling. That's how upset I was about the dishwasher claim.

The first time we were about to use American Home Shield, we had an air conditioning problem. They assigned a contractor. I read the reviews on this contractor and they were absolutely terrible. Everybody hated them and so I canceled that. The next time I decided to give them a try, I asked first if I could have a list of contractors they were gonna use for the electric. They gave me that list and then I looked them all up. Armadillo Electric had great reviews and so I then called Home Shield back and booked it through that company. I had three outlets that were not working in the kitchen and the guy that came out had it fixed in no time.
AHS also sent a locksmith. They called me and solicited me if I wanted them to come and have somebody change the locks at the new house, and they were okay too. AHS has a reputation for using very poor contractors. But I would use them again and I'd do the same process where I'd try to find out who they have and then pick a contractor.

When I put the claim through the computer, everything worked fine. However, I called once and I waited an hour, and I couldn’t get ahold of anybody. I just stopped trying. What if I needed to actually talk to a customer service rep about a situation? And say, if something went wrong and I didn't like my service, at least I know AHS could put in a survey complaint. But it doesn't allow me to get to them easily. They should have a better way to get ahold of somebody. I also set the expectations to the guys that are coming out like they should have a mask. I even asked if they were vaccinated. They said they were vaccinated, they had a mask on, and they had the coverings. Then I made sure they had all that on before they stepped in my house.
Recently my toilet was not working and my sink was not draining. When JR Plumbing called, I asked them to wear a mask and wear shoe coverings, and they had no problem with that. The first guy came in and looked at it. I showed him what was wrong with my toilet and I turned it off because it was making noise. He said he could fix it. Then I explained to him about the sink, and the next guy came in and worked on that. He was able to get the sink done by unclogging it and pulled some stuff that was clogging it up. Then for the toilet, the first guy replaced the compartment inside of it. It’s now working but I wanna give it a couple of days to really see if it has some longevity to it.
My mother has American Home Shield as well and she lives in South Carolina, and I pay it for her. My only concern is the quality of companies that are popping up there. They've had companies that have had bad reviews. When I have those, I typically call and put them on notice that they're coming out to a senior citizen, that I've read their reviews and I expect them to have good customer service. That typically works with them. American Home Shield shouldn't have people on the list that got multiple bad ratings on them. They need to keep a close eye on that.

When I asked to have the service calls, the gal I spoke to at American Home Shield asked all the necessary questions and took a little bit on the phone, but it wasn't that big a deal. I got the emails about the contractor selected and everything went fairly smoothly. Having the policy, even though you pay for it month after month after month, still gives you a peace of mind that if something goes wrong, you have a company that has got a history of taking care of the issues.
We also had someone to check our oven and he went through what we thought were the issues, and everything is working fine. Right now, American Home Shield is working on the refrigerator issue. The fella that was here yesterday has to come back. He said he had to order more parts than what he had with him. But his knowledge and ability is skeptical. I have done claims both with the mobile app and via phone call, and it was easy, but there's opportunity for the coverage to be a little better. I also had my air conditioner maintenance, and the Freon's only covered $10 of the $160. It was a very expensive month. On a different note, I had great contractors.
The only concern I had is the water heater went the weekend of the fourth and no one was available. The repair company came out the first business day afterwards and they had to wait for the water heater to become available. However, it was a bit out of the warranty company's and the contractor's control because of the pandemic. Overall, I wish American Home Shield had better benefits, but the coverage is good to have. It is easy to get through the claims process, but it's hit or miss on whether or not the people that come to help can actually do anything. I got a dryer duct that was bad and I gotta change it. There was a duct selection, but AHS sent an AC person out, and he would not touch it, so I didn't know who to call. Then sometimes companies would come out and help, or sometimes, the issue was not covered under the home warranty, and it was a waste because I still paid 75 bucks but they were not able to do anything. It saved me money, but at the same time, I'd be batting 500 with it.
But with the warranty, it is convenient to get people out. You pay a premium and they show up and then you can talk to them directly. Also, there's almost a side negotiation like, “The warranty doesn't cover it. But here's what I can do.” Some people will get frustrated by that. But for me, it's okay. At least they’re here. We could at least talk. The people are usually flexible and get things done for you if they can do it.
I could have sworn some things would have been covered and a good example is the showerhead leaking. The plumber said that there was a stem inside the shower that was bad. He could change the cartridge for the shower, but he couldn't mess with that because the warranty doesn't cover it. Well for me, it's a leak. For them, it's more nuanced and I wouldn't know that until they get out here and tell me. But then I've had an issue with an AC and the blower motor was bad. It was a $1,200 part and they replaced it. That saved me 1,400 bucks, and that was $75. The warranty definitely helped in a jam, but it's just hard to know and you really got to dive into that thing to really get a good pulse on what it's gonna cover or not.
Then people need to understand that they're not gonna get anything really brand new, just replacement parts. As long as they have that understanding, it can save them in a spot. With my recent claim, Sigmond Plumbing did what they were supposed to do in relation to the home warranty. They did not replace the toilet. They just switched out the toilet innards and got everything running.

I seemed to have some issues with my pool filter, and a technician from Varner came out. He looked into different compartments and saw that there was a blockage in the motor. So, he went and got the parts and fixed it for me right then and there. As far as Varner is concerned, any time I've ever had an issue and filed through American Home Shield for my pool, out of all the technicians or companies I've ever dealt with over the past five years, Varner’s the only one that’s always been very punctual and has always solved the issue within 24 hours. They're one of my favorites.
I had a refrigerator situation that took ridiculously long. Part of the issue for me was no one was willing to take care of me at all. My fridge was completely not working, and one lady that I spoke to said, “You can ask your neighbor if you can use their fridge or maybe you should get a cooler.” She also spoke to me like I didn't know what the hell the estimated time meant. But I was like, “I know exactly what you mean. I know what estimated time is. But you should have a tracking on this supposed part that you ordered.” I called. Then American Home Shield called. Then they updated the system because American Home Shield was like, “Well, there's nothing in here showing an update on the status of the part.” Once they contacted them, then this company made the update. I didn't have a fridge for over two months.
Also, as far as status updates, the vendor would never make any updates. When they did make updates, it would be after American Home Shield inquired. So, when we would call, then they would update the system on what's happening with this and that. There was supposedly a part that was ordered. The estimated arrival time was, let's say, on the 12th of the month. The 12th of the month came in and went, and no updates were made into the system saying what was going on with the part. I waited about a week, and I called to follow up. They were still saying, “Well, that's the estimated time.”
I'm stuck because I don't know how to fix certain things and I'm military, so I don't know anybody here. I can't call my uncle, my cousin or family members to come over. I have to have a warranty. So, that's one of the reasons why I haven't dropped AHS. When the whole refrigerator situation happened, I told them I was gonna drop them if they didn't fix the problem because I went two months without a fridge. They said they were gonna reimburse my fee that I paid. I never got reimbursed that 70-something dollars. I have a warranty because I don't know anybody and because AHS is supposed to be able to communicate effectively with them. I don't know what the ins and outs are of what can be done and what can't be done. I don't feel comfortable. I feel like it's shady for me to call somebody and say, “Yo, can you put in there that it needs to be replaced?” I think that American Home Shield shouldn't even had to wait on the contractor.
In Montgomery, Alabama, their contractors are lackluster. And overall, the customer service reps from American Home Shield need to be trained better. They need to do better notes. They need to be able to communicate more effectively amongst the different departments and not to tell the customer that they need to do such and such when it's the people that are issuing the policies job.

I had to go get a loan to complete the process with everything, inside and outside. They did get better. I went back with them in the new home. But recently, I do not like to call when doing claims. It goes straight to automatic service. Then they process the payment upfront before I even see what service I need. I didn't use to have that.
Another thing is my monthly fee went up within the last year during the pandemic, which I wasn't even aware of. It used to be about 50-some dollars a month then it went up to $60.99. Of all times to go up on people, why during a pandemic when funds are not even there. I understand that worse things can happen during that time. I wanted to cancel the service because of that because I didn't mean anything to happen at that time. But then it’s good to have coverage at a time of need. Just like recently, my air conditioner went out. With me having small ones in the house, AHS came out and serviced me as quickly as they possibly could, and got me back up with my AC. Without that warranty, it's hard for people to be able to get that kind of service or get something like that fixed.

The faucet was dripping. When you would close it, you could see water coming down on the sides of the faucet. The contractor told me that they would be here at a certain time and they were here when they said they would. The tech put a little seal around the faucet. He didn’t even put a different faucet. But the way it was fixed, there's no water leaking. It was perfect. Everything has been good. American Home Shield has been great. The claims process has always been easy with them. I’ve had other warranty companies where they wanna do the same thing but it's more expensive and they pay a little less towards any kind of appliance. It's not as much as American Home Shield.

I submitted a claim via the online portal of the American Home Shield. The website was good. It always works very well. They were able to respond fairly quick. Within 24 hours, I got a response and then scheduled for a few days later. The motor was not turning in the AC unit outside. Then, the techs had come to check that out and then found a faulty capacitor, and they had replaced it. It was a quick fix. The techs were very good. They were very professional and very quick to resolve the issue. Now, everything’s working just fine, like normal. It's very good when AHS gets good providers like that and then they can send them out in very quick order especially with an HVAC issue that needs a quick repair. I definitely would suggest others use AHS. AHS is something that is good to have in an emergency and usually it's a quick fix that it’s useful for as well.

American Home Shield gets things fixed when they need to be fixed. When I had a problem with the stove, I filed a claim and got an email of who was going to be here and when he was going to be here. He was here, ordered the parts, came back and put them in. We've had a couple of other repairs and they all went the same way - very professional.

We’ve had some good experiences and bad experiences with AHS. They’re like a box of chocolates. You don’t know what you’re gonna get. The air conditioner wasn't cooling recently. There's a leak and it hasn't been fixed yet. But the tech put some Freon in there. I had to pay him for that. I thought it was covered. AHS covered $10 of it and then they charged me $110 a pound.
For this claim, I tried to get ahead. I called the district manager. She's been really helpful. Her name is Michelle. I said, “I just want to have a great experience. I want to get ahead of this.” I have my own furnace company, but it was a leak. I feel like I should go through AHS. I already had given $100, and then I wrote the tech another check for $330. Maybe they can make it read big letters that Freon is not covered. I just thought AHS would cover more of that. Because then, I paid $450, but I haven’t really heard back when they’re coming out to fix the leak. He came out to put the Freon in, but then apparently it was a longer process. I'm just waiting for the people to call me. They just got the authorization in the morning. So I feel like it’ll be done. I’m hoping it's a better process.
I've had a couple of issues. One time, we had a leaky pipe. It's possible that they created another leak the first time. I feel like I don't always get the highest quality folks, so we've had some other things which I just didn't go through AHS because it's sometimes a little bit of a pain. We had a leak that got fixed, but then they did something to where they had to turn off the water that it was still going. And it got all over my basement. It was like, “We’re really sorry. It's gonna take two weeks for us to come out.” I said, “I don't have enough buckets.”
We bought this house and then we got AHS along with it. But they kept telling me that I wasn't a customer, because they give you 30 days before something happens. But regardless, everybody in customer service, when I've had an issue has been helpful. We had them out to also do the lock and key and most of our locks are okay. We did have to have them okay because the deadbolt was like a little bit off to the side where you could see the wood.

The claim process was really quick and I love that. Techs came on that Thursday and serviced my air conditioner. The technician was professional and I was pleased with the work. I was having the party that Friday so everything worked out well. I changed the filter of the unit and everything is good. I had other repairs in the past and one was for my icemaker. That was the only thing that really went out some time. I needed a filter and I was told I had to go to Home Depot to get that. American Home Shield has been excellent and I want to keep them as long as I have my house.

Two weeks ago, I placed a work order to American Home Shield to have the water heater repaired in my house in Simi Valley, California. During that call, I got really frustrated that I started looking into another home warranty company that I saw a commercial for, but then, I backed down. I wasn't satisfied with what the agent was telling me, and I asked the agent to allow me to speak with the manager. He said, "I'm giving you a choice. And the choice is that I'm going to send you to escalations." I said, "No, but I want to talk to your manager based on the conversation we're having right now." I told him, "I hope this conversation is being recorded for quality purposes, because, hopefully, American Home Shield will go back and listen to this call, and they'll hear my repetitive request to speak to the manager." He said, "Okay, give me a minute." Then, he came back and said, "Manager's on a call right now. Can I attend to your call?"
I said, "No. No problem. I'll wait. Whatever I have to wait, I will wait." He said, "Okay, so let me talk to him again," and he went back to whoever the manager was. Then, came back and said, "There are two options, I'm giving you the option of escalating your call or waiting on-line. But my manager won't be able to attend to your call." I said, "Okay, so you're not giving me options. You're saying that I have to take the escalation path. So, no, I prefer to wait. If you're really giving me options, the choice I'm going to take is I will wait on-line." I waited on-line for 53 minutes, and sure enough, I got disconnected. That really ticked me off.
I was so mad. I'm really happy with their service. It was really the first time that I had a bad experience like that. It got to the point of frustration where I actually started getting proposals from other home warranty companies that I saw online but I backed down from that, so they're not going to lose me as a customer. I have two houses with them, and right now, I have someone at my house in Simi Valley repairing the water heater. However, with that same water heater situation, the vendor that they sent out, One Time Plumbing, was a disaster. I had to go with a cash out option because that service provider that they sent wouldn't return any of the calls. I left that entity three voice messages trying to get ahold of them, and then, the fourth one, when I called, they said, "You have reached an inbox that is full." So, I called American Home Shield. They couldn't get in touch with them, either. They would call and it would go to voicemail.
They said, "You can opt with the cash out option. So, basically, you just submit the receipts, your water heater is covered. If they have to replace it, it will be covered." I called them and asked them about this one part that's a pressure valve that needs to be changed, they said, "Yep, it's covered, all you have to do is submit the invoice." One Time Plumbing is really bad. AHS shouldn't have them representing their company because that was a crash and burn.
I still think American Home Shield is really good. My advice to others would be to have it because it really works. I've had good experience, good coverage for both homes and prompt and fair repairs. They meet the policies. Overall, it's very worthwhile having American Home Shield because I've been a customer for quite some time and I've had good experiences up until this past week.

The air conditioner just stopped working. I called American Home Shield and they said they called and left a message with someone to come and fix it. The air conditioning service called me right back very promptly and set up the time. I told them about the issue and that we turned the AC off and just left it off. Their technician came and said that there was a part that was burnt on the unit, and he showed it to me. He left it for my husband to look at. Everything was fine once he fixed it. I would definitely refer my neighbors to American Home Shield.

My garbage disposal stopped working in my sink and I called American Home Shield. The claims process was awesome. AHS has always been there when I needed them. He worked on it for a few minutes and finally, he said that I was gonna need a new one. So, he went out to his truck, got another one and put it on, and took the old one with him. The garbage disposal is working perfectly now. People has to get American Home Shield. It saves them thousands of dollars over the course. American Home Shield's service has been prompt and its cost is reasonable. We submit our claims online and the process is super simple. Somebody locally calls me, one of the contractors, and we set up an appointment. If they can't fix what's going on with the appliance, it's been replaced. That happened with our refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, and furnace. So, we've gotten real value for what we've been paying throughout the years. Aside from that, the contractors have all been very professional, on time, and everything you'd want out of a contractor.

The light on the fan would turn on, but the actual fan part wouldn't. I submitted a claim through American Home Shield's website where it's always pretty easy to find whichever appliance is having an issue and they at least have a rough description of what the problem could be. Then usually, I'd get either the contractor's name and their phone number. The tech who came out for my fan diagnosed the problem quickly and figured out that we'd need a new fan because the remote part of the old one wasn't working.
Then he called his boss to see about getting a new fan, and he went and got that from Home Depot nearby. All in all, the service took two and a half hours and now, the fan works well. It seems secure in everything and it makes the room more usable. AHS is totally worth the money. It costs not really that much each month and it's been super helpful for having a house that was built in '97, for the things that may have been missed by the prior owners.

American Home Shield sent a plumbing outfit from Charles Town, West Virginia and everything went smoothly when I made the claim. I was able to submit when I saw the problem and I was able to get a response through the system, albeit that it was automated. But I felt like it was being handled and the plumbing company that they reached out to contacted me. Then at that point, it took a while for them to try and sync up with the traffic in this area and the area that they have to travel through to get here. Both of the guys said that they were not in this area generally, that they were all up and down the Eastern Seaboard, and that they were just not readily over here.
Then, they gave me these crazy windows that they could arrive in and I was told there would be a 30-minute prior ahead call. But I didn't get the call twice and one time, they said they did, but I told them that they did not. This is my only phone and it had not rung. Also, the company was over 50 miles away from me and there are tons of plumbers in my area. All in all, I'm happy with what I went through with AHS, to an extent. It was with the vendors where there were more issues. However, when people call in, AHS needs to look more closer to the proximity when they're getting vendors. If they can do something like that, it would behoove both parties and it would keep emotions down a little bit. If I had had a major emergency and I was not seeing people for five days, I could have really been up the creek.

KAA Investments was good. We had two in the wall type of faucets in the bathroom, each bathroom shower, that were about to fall off. The repair people cut holes in the bathroom wall and put in a new faucet and cartridge assembly, and they worked right. With the old faucets, it was hard to shut the water off or turn it on. The repair people also fixed a couple of hose bibbs we had that were leaking. The hose bibbs were attached to the house plumbing and they had to turn the water off to the house to fix them. Another one is we had a toilet that was running on its own during the day and night. It would just start running water even though it wasn't flushed and apparently, it was due to a leak in the porcelain. They replaced the toilet with a new one, which works good. It's a nice low flow toilet too. That's good. Lastly, the toilet in the master was leaking around the wax ring seals down on to the floor gasket, so they replaced the wax ring around that toilet.
We have another couple of claims outstanding though. I called American Home Shield last Thursday for a plumber because our water heater does not heat water, and we're still waiting for them to assign a service provider. We've had no hot water to take showers or to wash dishes. I called again this morning, and the rep said, “Oh, we're still trying to find a provider.” There are a lot of plumbers, so I don’t know why they're saying they can't find a provider. At that time, I said the guys that came previously from KAA Investments are plumbers, and they could come and fix a water heater. I suggested American Home Shield contact them. We also have a whole house fan which does not turn on or off. We’ve contacted them on the 20th, and tomorrow, it'll be a week, and they’re still looking for a provider. That's just an electrician. It's not like that’s a specialty.

American Home Shield seems to assign a claim pretty quickly. The contractor, Dun-Rite, was great. I can't say enough about them compared to the other contractors we've had. They were very prompt in calling us to set up an appointment. I had stuff going on with my family and they accommodated us. They let us set the time. They were in and out and very courteous. They were also prompt in getting the report back to American Home Shield. That's the latest claim, which up until that point, went extremely well. We're in a very difficult time with appliances, but it was a very narrow selection on appliances we could get through American Home Shield. Fortunately, Home Depot happened to have one in stock and we got that pretty quickly. However, I haven't heard anything on the check. I know that takes a little time but we're not getting feedback that they got the claim and the check's being processed.
American Home Shield's general customer service number is terrible. It's going overseas and the people that those customer service calls are going to have no power whatsoever. They have no insights into the process. They have no idea on the status. I get more information from just going into my account than that initial customer service line can provide. It's very frustrating. Sometimes, you wait on hold for a very long time to get to someone that provides you very little help. If it was based on that, I would have canceled my contract already. But we plan on staying with American Home Shield for a while and I'd love to have it fixed.
We've had much worse experiences. American Home Shield's use of Sears as a sub is a terrible choice. You get terrible customer service from them. The initial tech we got was great. He knew right away what the problem was. But it gets thrown into this parts research boondoggle and it just sits there. Our oven broke on Christmas Day and because of the rigmarole with Sears and this parts research, my wife did not have an oven back until just before Easter. The only reason why I got out of that was because I got to that magic number with American Home Shield. Those magic numbers where you get to a representative that either processes your replacement appliance or processes your check are the people that can do it. You're really not supposed to be calling them until it gets to that stage but fortunately, they're willing to help you out, acknowledging that the front-end process is absolutely broken.

He told me everything he was gonna do, and I can't say enough about him. That was the most professional interaction I've ever had. Whether somebody has American Home Shield or not, I will recommend that they call Fox Pools.
I've been with American Home Shield for a while. I like the website and I wish I had a selection of who I could go through, but I understand that's not what it's about. If I do a claim for an AC unit, I don't want company A. They'll come out, and it'll be five tries, and then they finally get it right. If I can go with company B, I'm going to get it done right the first time. Overall, even though some repairs didn't go as well as I thought they should, I still have no complaints. We got to the end.
