I like that I haven't had to pay anything extra with my recent claim. The company just came out, I paid the $75, and they fixed the issue. The only complaint I had was that I called on a Monday and the company couldn't come out till a Friday. I thought that five days was a bit much. I've had some plumbing issues, and normally, they come out the next day or the same day, but it was the same company. But then this next time, they changed me to a new one, and that took time to come out. But then since my toilet was running, they didn't feel like that was a big deal. Other than that, it's been okay.
I also had a claim for the pipe burst and the tech had to cut a hole in the ceiling. He came and fixed the ceiling after he fixed what I initially called for. But since he cut the hole in my ceiling to fix that, he had to come out and patch up my ceiling. Overall, having American Home Shield’s service is good to have because you never know what's going to happen in your house.
We really appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your future AHS needs. Have an amazing week.

American Home Shield has been good, and the biggest benefit of having them is the average charge in case I have a home repair expense. When I put in a claim for my air conditioning, I would have preferred to talk to a live person instead of an automated system, but other than that, it was fine. The repair company showed up when they said they would and it all went very well. It was not a serious problem and it was resolved very quickly.
Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with the work done.

I moved to a new place where I don't really know service companies yet. Just basing on googling is just too much. There are too many companies to choose from. Having American Home Shield, it's easier to find service and they would take care of whatever needs to be taken care of. I used their service and someone came over and changed our locks. He was professional and very knowledgeable. He was also very patient and he explained everything to me.

Diamond Garage Doors & Openers came out and repaired the garage door. It wasn't opening or closing. It will go part of the way down and then it'd go back up. I did the claim for it to American Home Shield online. The website was good. I like it. They had sent a text saying that the contractor would be giving me a call, which they did, and they sent an email saying what day and time they would be out. The service was excellent. The tech was very efficient. American Home Shield is a reliable company that you can trust.

Our tenant called us to let us know that when she was doing the dishes, the kitchen sink got all filled up to the top. So, she shut off the water and stopped what she was doing. Then half an hour later, she came in the kitchen and she had a pool of water in there. She didn't understand where it was coming from, but then, she realized that she was running the washer out in the garage. So, I called American Home Shield and they got someone to go out that same day. But when the plumber came out, he said that we had water damage. He said that the pipes were behind a drywall underneath the kitchen sink and that he couldn’t do anything at that time.
So, we had to call our house insurance and they had to send a restoration company out there. They destroyed the floor and made a big hole on the wall. Then, the plumbers came back and fixed the kitchen sink. But when our tenant used the washer, it started leaking again. So, the plumbers came out a second time and fixed the plumbing to the washer, which is in the laundromat in the garage. So they did their part. But they said that we had to call American Home Shield and that it was going to be a separate fee. So, aside from the $80 and some change that we normally pay, we got charged again a couple of days afterwards. My husband was trying to talk to someone in the billing department about it but the person that was talking to him said that that was the rule.
In my personal opinion, even though I'm not a plumber, since the washer and dryer stand in the garage, there is a wall, and all those pipes are linked together to the same drain, we shouldn't pay a separate fee when the plumbers came out three days later to be able to fix the problem. That wasn’t fair and initially, we didn’t pay it and my husband was fighting it. But American Home Shield went and pulled the money out because they have our bank information.

Submitting claims is a simple process to get through but I got to wait too long to get service. Also, although I pay a monthly fee, I pay a deductible of $100 every time I request service and that was not explained. Then, they say 24 to 48 hours but if it's an emergency, paying for the repair is gonna come out of pocket. When my refrigerator went up, the contractor wanted me to wait 24 to 48 hours. My food had already thawed so I needed someone immediately and I ended up paying for repairs out of my pocket. I also had a pool claim and the tech from Pool Wizard did great, but I had to wait a week before someone could come. It's the same thing with my stove right now. I can't get anybody until next week. And when I first joined, I had an issue with the shower and they denied it so I ended up coming out of pocket with that.

We're still waiting for the stove to be fixed and I'm frustrated. My stove has been broken for a while. I asked American Home Shield to fix it and they sent somebody out. They said they fixed it. I turned the stove on to cook dinner and flames started shooting out underneath because of the gas. Instead of coming out the top, they were also coming out the bottom.
The guy came out and said some pieces were broken off. I told him, “If you knew they were broken off, then why didn’t you fix it?” He left and said that he would call back when he got home to see if they had the parts. But he never called me so I left him a message the next day asking if he had the parts. I didn't hear anything back from him. I called him again yesterday and he said, “They don’t have the parts. We’ve got to order them. I’ll call and see if I can get an update.” He called back and told me they do have the parts and he'd be here Thursday morning. Supposedly, it’s gonna get fixed tomorrow but I don't know that it will.
I loved the guy at first. I truly thought he was amazing. It may just be that he's busy but I feel like maybe something could have been done a little better somewhere. The only other thing would be we had a really hard time renewing with American Home Shield. It took us four or five days to be able to renew for whatever reason. Whenever my husband would hit the button to submit renew, it just would spin even though we have strong internet connection. We almost didn't renew because it was a huge hassle.

The control panel of the dishwasher where you set the buttons didn't work. The tech ordered the new part and then he came back and put it in. He ran rinse cycle, which we hadn’t before, and then he left. We loaded it up, ran it, and it worked great. But when we put in some stuff, it didn’t work again. It was the exact same problem. So I called back AHS and they sent him out for a recall thing. He’s thinking now it may be the control board.

In general, the claim process is fine except for the issue of when someone calls, AHS has an explanation for why something is this and that until digging out in the contract and finding out. Things need to be clarified for both. Then we shift from remote and multimedia and I'm asking, "What's the multimedia"? But there's no explanation.
With my recent claim, the techs visited the first time and said they had to order spare parts. When they came back, they did not use a spare part. They mentioned that they repaired the wiring and that there was a problem with the remote system. They said that was not covered. So, I thought it wasn't a remote system and the issue is just the controller behind the wall. I called and they said it's not covered. I don't know why it isn't. The warranty says multimedia but I don't understand what they mean by multimedia system. When the contractor came with a behavior issue, that was fine. But to say, “I want to go get spare parts,” and then come back later on and say, “No, I don't need to replace spare part,” then find another issue, it just sheds doubts on why the issue came up to this point.

I had an issue with the range and AHS kept sending the same vendor to fix it. But the problem continued. I kept calling, then they sent someone else. But they really couldn't do much and they couldn't replace it. They were just sending different vendors and every vendor had a different opinion or a different diagnosis on it. And finally, seven months after, the issue was resolved. But it took that long.

We have three air conditioner units and the techs have had to come out for a different unit a couple of times. For my last claim, the contractor first sent me a message and said “Here's the available times. We're gonna assign them to this date.” Then they sent me a notification to say the tech is on his way. The last unit they came out for was for the unit that's in my office above my garage. It was blowing out warm air. The tech looked at everything and said it needed a pound and a half of Freon. I've always had great experiences with this contractor. They're very friendly and polite. The techs came in wearing masks. They were very respectful and got the job done really efficiently. The bulk of the time, they're the ones who get assigned by American Home Shield. This time was no exception.
AHS has been really easy to use. They're always very quick. Anytime I've had an issue, I've been able to call and get it resolved. I wish they paid for Freon but other than that, I'm happy with the service.

I was very disappointed that American Home Shield doesn't cover the Freon. I know that’s American Home Shield’s policy, so it wasn't the contractor making up something but I really was disappointed that American Home Shield doesn't cover more of that cost. Still, AHS is definitely worth having. I've been with the company almost 19 years since I've had the home. I would never go without a home warranty. So, I appreciate having AHS. I definitely will continue to be a customer. When I worked for another particular agency, I did refer American Home Shield to my boss who was buying a house at the time. I pay my bill through American Home Shield's app and it gives me all the information. But one thing I don't like about the app is if you want to pay the bill before the exact due date, you can't do it. You can only pay on the due date or after the due date. I also went on the app and put in a request when my dryer wouldn't start. I was told Sears was coming out. I was very satisfied with the tech that came out. He got my dryer working again.
AHS is a good company to go with. But I do have a couple of issues before that I wasn't satisfied with. When COVID was starting, my washing machine broke and it took over six weeks for the contractor to come and fix it. I was getting kind of mad with them because it shouldn't take six weeks to get a technician. Before they even tried to send someone, they've had my money for that long. I had to have my husband talk to them and tell them that if they didn't get somebody out here in a certain length of time, he was going to call an attorney. That was how frustrated we were.
The washing machine had to be replaced and then it took another two weeks. So I was about two months without a washing machine. But I had to fight to get the washing machine. AHS said the claim was closed. But I said, "Wait a minute. The claim isn't closed. You haven't rectified the situation. I've paid you the money. You came out. And you're the company that said that, ‘You needed to replace the washing machine. Replace the washing machine.’” But I've had success with other things that I submitted to American Home Shield. It’s $125 for the service guy to come out and it's too bad he can't fix everything at one try. But I get it. They're here to make money too.

When I went to American Home Shield’s website, there was a link down at the bottom for creating a work request. When I clicked on that, my screen was flashing and I couldn't figure out what was going on. It wasn't bringing me into that form to request the work order. I called the 800 number and they said that I was in the system but my account was not active. They said that they could tell it was from a Realtor but they have some authority to go ahead and do that. So, they put in the work order for the rekey. That was fantastic.
The company contacted me very quickly. They had an opening fairly soon because somebody else had cancelled. I said that I would take the appointment. They're busy slammed right now but I got in very quickly and their work was fantastic. They showed up on time and did all the rekeys, and everything was fine. The next time I had to request for a service, I called it in and they told me the same thing. They had to check with the supervisor and then, they came back and said that they could go ahead and put it in the system. It was for a broken dishwasher and the guy came out two days later. I'm in the middle of that now because he had to go back and request parts. You can't find everything with a microchip now and I’m waiting to hear on that and what's going on with that. I'm perfectly happy and I will be renewing AHS. They’re very easy.

I put what I need and do the best that I can. Sometimes, it doesn't elaborate, but then American Home Shield will comment. And that's fine. My biggest thing is that they are very prompt and I love it. I usually land up doing it on a Friday or Saturday, just sitting down and going, "Okay. Let me do this." I always get a response by that Monday from somebody. They all respond right away through text or email. Recently, water was leaking from the spout, from the front bathroom shower. I changed the knob but it still was leaking. So, the tech replaced the cartridge.
I love American Home Shield. My daughter's house is only three years old. She said, "Is American Home Shield really worth it?" I said, "Let me tell you something. My house is 25 years old. All of a sudden, God has looked down on me and saying, 'Everything's falling apart.' They're always there for me. Forever." I used to have an old contract that when I talked to the girl, she said, "Wow, we don't even write that contract anymore." I said, "Well, I've had it for a while. But I'm looking for something now that will cover plumbing, just in case." And thank God, I did. She said, "Well, we have something like that that covers a lot more. It covers electronics and all this." I was like, "For real?" And it was twice as much, but it's worth it. So, I stick with AHS.

All I hope is that when my contract expires, they don't keep emailing or calling me every day for the next six months. If their rates would stay consistent, I'd probably be more happy to keep it. They came out here but they claimed that they were not qualified to work on it.
Then the third one was Axis. Then they deemed that it wasn’t customer abuse. I then got a phone call from American Home Shield, saying that they were going to replace the machine. I'm just waiting now for a check to come. The tech knew what he was doing. But the only problem I had was communication. He spoke very broken English. Then when I asked him what country he was from, he told me Russia. But I was very satisfied with that company.
When they called me, the man asked me the measurements of the machine, and I gave it to him. He had the model number. It’s a KithenAid. He tried to get me one that would come pretty close to what I have now. So, he gave me about three to choose from, but none of them would fit in the hole I have. That was how they base how much money they would give me for it.

The contractor hasn't completed fixing the unit. I'm waiting for a call from American Home Shield. The last time I spoke with them, which was on the 27th, they were supposed to offer me a cash out because of what the diagnosis was from the company that they called. So I called and said, “The company that came out misdiagnosed it the first time.” I kind of knew that. The guy came out a few days later and said, "Yeah. It is the compressor motor that needs to be replaced." The company called me back and said, "Yeah. We can put a new unit on there, but you got to wait for your company to call you." I paid for someone to do it wrong. And then they said, "Well, it really needs this." I knew that. But they are the professionals. They said they would call me within 24 hours. That was 72 hours until now.
American Home Shield says one thing and then when it comes down to, they hide behind some technical this and that. And I'm pretty technical. So I understand exactly what they are doing is deny the claim because they hired someone to come out and give a false repair. But he was the guy that broke it. I said, "The unit is on top of my roof." Nobody went up. He broke that part of the unit, taking apart the screen to replace the fan motor that he knew that wasn't the right part to replace. So they are just doing these little repairs pretending to do something and yet they knew.
They are air conditioning people. I explained to him what happened, when the cooling stops, the vibration that comes into the whole house. And I said the fan never stops. But he proceeded to replace that motor. I said, "Well, okay. That doesn't make sense. But okay. We'll see how it goes." It was about 4:00 PM. And then by 7:30, the whole house is vibrating again. So I called the company that AHS hired. I called them four times, left them two messages. And finally, I called my warranty company, I said, "Look. They're totally blowing me off. This is not going well. This is the first time I've used you guys in a year. So what's going on?" I dealt with people that aren't familiar with technical things. And they don't even speak English very well.

There was a problem with a switch in the microwave. I would press start and the timer would go down but it was not heating and the turntable was not moving. American Home Shield sent out a person the next day after I filed a claim. The tech from ACT Appliance had to open up the microwave, he replaced the door switch, and then he put it back and fixed it. It works. I also had a range hood fan claim where the contractor did a video diagnosis. That way, they did not come out just to collect serial number information and model number. They had seen the problem and knew a little bit about it before they showed up. It worked well. They have ordered the parts and we just have to wait it out.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.

Our recent experience with American Home Shield has been better than it had been in the past. In the past, you had to literally wait for the part to come in to the vendor and only after verification could you then schedule for the person to come out and fix it. It was kind of nice that the technician ordered the part while he was standing here and I got confirmation. He also scheduled the appointment for the install even though the part wasn't yet delivered.
I’ve been with American Home Shield for 20 something years and at first, it was a little rough. But then we figured it out and it got better. So anytime someone asked us about getting the warranty, we always recommend them. We just renewed online with them. My suggestion to make the customer experience a better one is if a customer never filed a claim throughout the year, American Home Shield should entertain the idea of potentially giving that customer a little bit of a break on the next time they renew. Give me a little bit of an incentive to stay and cut $50, $100 off the overall cost for the next year that I renew. That would be nice.

My house wasn’t cooling and we were getting to a point where it was 10:00 at night and I was still sitting at 78 degrees. This is mid-summer. American Home Shield's website was intuitive and easy enough to navigate. I was able to file a claim then even reopen it and file the same claim again. Custom Climate Professionals was the name of the contractor and I knew their contact information, and I had a rough timeline. Techs came when I asked them to and they kept me well informed. They worked with me to figure out what the repair was. The contractor was great.
The techs swapped out my coil and I saw an almost immediate improvement. However, that still didn't fix the issue so I reopened the ticket with my home warranty. The techs came back out and we found another issue. They took care of that then I was told to give it a couple of days to see how it goes. We ended up going to a rainy period here in Colorado so the temperature plummeted. It was hard for me to tell if the issue was fixed or not fully. About a week and a half later, we heated the unit back up and my temperature didn't rise to 78 but we still weren't cooling sufficiently. I was hovering around 73, 74. There was a huge improvement but the issue was still not fixed.
I called the Custom Climate Professionals directly because their tech told me to do so if the unit didn't work. I was told they would get me on the schedule. It was about a week after that when one of their office administrators called me back and said, “I talked to the owner. It's not going to be a problem. Just reopen that ticket and then we'll get it taken care of.” I tried to reopen the ticket for the third time but the American Home Shield website wouldn't let me. I had to file the claim again and pay another $100 even though this is still technically the same service call. Since we were approaching some really hot days, I didn't want to call and waste time playing phone tag. I just paid the fee.
That's exactly what we like to hear. We are happy to know that AHS is beneficial to you. Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. Have great week.

I had a couple of claims recently. I have two garbage disposals. The repair guy managed to get one to work. The other one was not workable but he had a replacement so he replaced that. Another claim I had was for one of the air conditioners in the house that was not working. I knew about this since last fall. There was a lack of Freon in it. A repair guy came out and the options were to replace the coil or put in the Freon. The only thing was the Freon R-12 is no longer available. I took their replacement cost for the coil, which was $349. I went ahead and bought a new air conditioning unit for about $5,000. I wish I had more support there.
The most recent claim I'm in the middle of is for my Sub-Zero refrigerator. It started to have this big iceberg form on the back wall of the refrigerator. I've only had the refrigerator for 16 years and it has never done that before. The first repair guy said it looked like a Freon leak so he told American Shield that. They sent a second person and he agreed it was a Freon leak but they don't do Freon. The repair guys said the type of Freon is not being made anymore so it's going to be hard to find that. If they can't find it, I'm probably going to have to get a new refrigerator and that's a couple of thousands of dollars. Yesterday, a third guy came out and he was from the repair company that has Freon. Fortunately, he is going to find the Freon that we need. They put in the work order to replace the Freon and some mechanism that goes with it. That's gonna save me having to buy a whole new device.
Based on my experience, the people have been timely, polite, and they get back to you. I just wonder why I had to go through three service folks to get an answer on the Freon. I'm working at home now but prior to the pandemic, I wasn't. If this incident happened then, I would have been very unhappy because I would have had to be here on three different occasions when the repair person came. I'm familiar with doing risk assessments. American Home Shield would probably be at risk of having more complaints if that's their typical way of doing things where that you go through a lot of people coming before they can solve the problem when the first guy knew what it was already.

The AC unit was not coming on at all. It was easy to get the technicians out here. I called American Home Shield on a Friday, and they came out on Monday. I couldn’t get anyone the same day I called, but they did come out early Monday morning. They said between 8:00 and 1:00, but the tech was here at about 9:45. He went right to the source of what the problem was and took care of it. Him and my husband communicated. He wasn’t too friendly when I first greeted him but then my husband finally started talking to him, and he started talking to him. So, he was professional.
Having the home warranty helps with emergencies on some of my things. I feel like sometimes I may not have the money to pay for someone to come out and repair, but I just got that $100 payment. Also, I’m making a monthly payment and that could be costly too. I could put that money aside on a savings, but sometimes, I may not have the resource of knowing who to call, and I know that this has saved me because AHS deals with them. That would give the assurance that everything would be okay if they do send them out.

The technician wore a mask, had his booties on and was on time. He diagnosed the system and was very professional. It turned out that we needed a follow-up call because the problem was more complex. Initially, he tested and replaced the capacitor. Shortly after, it was acting up again. When he came back for the second service call, it turns out that it was a bad blower motor. He changed the capacitor which got it back up and running again. But shortly thereafter, the motor failed. He's supposed to be coming out today again.
The website wasn't really intuitive. I would have liked to have seen a way to get in touch with somebody from customer service and when I had to resubmit the follow-up call, a way to do it without being charged a second time. I had to call the 800 number and submit the follow-up call through the 800 number. That way, I didn't get charged. I was trying to do it on the website but it was asking to charge me the service call fee again. Other than that, American Home Shield gives peace of mind and I like that I have a single point of contact if something breaks in the house. I'd recommend it. It's a good way to protect against potential high dollar expenses especially if you have aging appliances.

They got in touch with Fox Pools and the gentleman who came out fixed the pipes but I noticed that our pool pump itself was messing up. It quit working while he was there working on the pool. The pump had been installed for probably about seven years and never been taken care of by the previous homeowners. So, he found a short in our pool pump, which could have been dangerous to our family. He replaced the pool pump but another pipe burst after he left. So the next day, he came back and took care of that pipe as well.

We had a rainstorm over the weekend. It knocked the power out. After the power came back on, the AC did not come back on. I could hear the AC unit, which is outside, going off every time it came back on, but the blower never did. The tech that came out said the blower motor went out. He was able to replace it. So far, so good. It was very difficult getting in contact with them though. I guess they don't have anyone working in the office. I called and I waited on the line for an hour and 15 minutes just to follow up with them.
Originally, when I put in the order through American Home Shield, the request said that someone would reach out to me the next business day. No one ever did, so I reached out to the company that American Home Shield had listed there that picked up the ticket. But I did like the process. It was very easy. I logged on, was able to just submit what was going on, pay the $100, and next thing, I had information on who would be the company. So, I did appreciate American Home Shield in that regard.

Shinmen came out for my icemaker in my refrigerator. They did have to come out a couple times. I live a little bit outside of the city and I have well water. So that could have been an issue because it just so happened, at the time when the tech came out, I was having a problem with my well. I didn't realize I was having a problem until right after he came out. My hot water heater went out. And when my hot water heater went out, my water stopped working. I thought it was because of the hot water heater that went out, but it turned out my well went out too. So when he first came and supposedly had the icemaker repaired, and it didn't make ice the first time, it could possibly be that he didn't put the right part on. But I can't confirm that because there was something wrong with my well water and I didn't know it. He came back a second time. After he tried to put the first part on, it didn't work.
The second time he came out, he put another part on. That didn't work. But the third time for him to come out, in between that time, I got a whole new well. And even when the guy came out, I had to get a whole new pump on my well. Even there was a problem with that and the guy had to come out a second time. He replaced the water pump for the well, then he had to even come back again the next day and replace something else because a whole lot of rust was coming out of it. It could be that the rust was filtering through the kitchen. It was coming through the pipes, and that hindered what we thought was wrong with the icemaker. But it was actually a problem with the water. So then when the guy came out, by that time, what happened was we should have gotten ice in 24 hours. It was eight days before we got ice, but the water pump was fixed in between that time. The icemaker is working fine now. I get plenty of ice.
I like calling American Home Shield and having them send someone out. I do pay a monthly amount and I do have to pay a service call. I've paid a little bit more this time than I have paid in the past. So, I tried to make sure that I had everything in my home covered that potentially might happen. So sometimes, it may feel like it's a little bit of an upcharge but at the same time, I'm pretty confident that the people that they send out will take care of everything. And I don't have to come out of my pocket with 500 at one time on the spot.

I came to find out the compressor wasn't working. And it was just where a wire had come loose from a wire nut. So, the tech came out and put the wire back on, and it started working. And while he was there, he checked my Freon and added Freon to my system. Sometimes, it takes a bit longer than I would like for them to get somebody assigned. But it's the middle of summer, and everybody has air conditioner have issues. So, even if I had called somebody myself, it would've taken five days for somebody to get out there. It's nothing they could do anything about. It just took time to get a time because I live in the South and air conditioning is important in the South.
I like that if something like this happens, I know what my deductible is. I know how much I would have to pay. And that gives me peace of mind, because I'm the only person at my house paying bills. So, if something happens, then I know that it's covered and I don't have to try to figure out where I'm gonna get $3,000 from to fix the fill in the blank. I love American Home Shield.

I made a claim through the website of AHS and it was pretty user-friendly. The next day, I got an email telling me that the contractor had been scheduled to work on the issue and that they would be contacting me. So, the process was quick.
Before the tech came out, we received information that he was enroute and whenever he was getting closer, I'd get texts and notifications. The service was very professional and he was easy to work with. He unclogged the line and that, he flushed the system. Then he made an order for a new pan because it needed to be handmade. After that, another person came and installed the pan. Now, the line not leaking anymore and the AC is working great. I thought it was going to take more time than what it did but it was fixed in a timely manner. A lot of times, things aren't covered, or a lot of times, you have to pay extra if it's Freon in your air conditioning unit, so that's one kind of disadvantage. Sometimes, you think that when they say it's cut, like that system's covered, it's covered. But they don't tell you there's extra stuff that you may have to pay for. But it's better to have it. I file claims online and I like the fact that I can get updates through text message, and I don't have to wait and talk to someone. With my recent one, the AC was leaking. They replaced a couple of components, put in two pounds of freon and charged me about 300 bucks. The air conditioning unit seemed to work. It was blowing out colder air but not as cold as it was. I asked, "You guys don't need to come back out? Everything should be good?" They confirmed that was the case. The very next day, the air conditioning unit was back to how it was, blowing out warm air. I even told them that I talked to my friends that work in HVAC and it's gonna be something in my attic. It's gonna be a leak or ductwork. They said no, it was not that. They were very friendly and professional but didn't even bother to go look.
I submitted a new claim and I'm kind of upset a little bit because I even told them what's gonna be a permanent solution. I was wondering if American Home Shield can send somebody different because I don't feel like Mister Freeze HVAC is gonna help me. They work out at Glendale and I live in a city called Highlands, so that's a 70-mile difference. I'd rather not have them have to drive 70 miles and me not understanding them again. Their English isn't very good. I'd rather speak to somebody who maybe we can communicate a little better. I also don't wanna have to pay anymore. I've already paid for the claim and they assured me it was going to be fixed but it wasn't. I'm back living in a house that's 90 degrees all the time.

American Home Shield is not the company it once was. I have been without hot water since July 1 2021. I filed the claim on July 1. It is now July 29. At first they assigned a contractor who responded quickly and determined that my hot water heater needed replacing. Okay, my contract states that AHS will replace with a like item so I'm thinking no problem, They will provide an 80 gallon heater to the vendor who will install. No problem. Couldn't be farther from the truth. The vendor heard nothing from AHS. I had to make numerous calls to determine that the issue was within AHS. One department not communicating with another.
Long story short, multiple calls trying to coordinate on my own with AHS and the vendor brought no results. No less than three times I was promised a callback from AHS (one from a supposed customer service supervisor) and never heard back from AHS. To add to that AHS said that they don't carry 80 gallon water heaters so they would offer a "cash in lieu of" settlement. Finally received an email yesterday, July 28th stating that our choices were to have the contractor replace with a like item (already been down that road) or accept a cash in lieu off of $500. Well, $500 80 gallon water heaters do not exist. Not even close. So here I am almost a month later with a choice of taking a like item that does not exist or accepting an offer that won't even cover half the cost of the hot water heater, not to mention the cost of installment.
This has been the worst customer experience ever! No follow up, no customer service, no resolution, and no hot water after a month of confusion on their part, issues within their own company, no communication between AHS and the vendor, and me trying to do THEIR job of getting this issue resolved. I cannot recommend American Home Shield in any way, shape or form. They do not honor their contract, they do not follow up, and they do not get issues resolved in anything that looks even remotely close to a timely manner. Save yourself time and money and GO WITH A DIFFERENT COMPANY.

So, they're coming back out tomorrow. But the tech was very polite. He was one of the only ones that made contact right away when he got his work order. Didn't have to wait a long time. Sometimes they wait for two days before they reach out to you. Then, they schedule you for two days. You're like six days out. But today's expenses are outrageous and to have a home warranty helps cover some of the costs.

There were two companies that came out for two separate issues with my HVAC. The first company replaced the motor for the fan on the condenser unit. A couple weeks later, I had another issue where the system wasn't getting cold air out of it. There was a terminal switch that was burned out and the second company replaced that. Both companies did a good job.

We are working and American Home Shield says the best way to reach is send an email or do it online. But when you're working, you're not in front of the computer or tablet all the time. Those who do all day long probably can do it, but most people can't. So for them, the easiest way is to call. And many times you're on hold for a long, long time before someone answers.
The contractor was out here twice. I have a two-zone unit and one was running like crazy with the fan all the time and cooling. And the second one was not cooling at all. The first time, everything was good. It was pretty much perfect. But then the AC kind quit again after two weeks. They came the second time, and they fixed the problem. Overall, it was excellent. I like that I don't have to pay a lot of money out of my pocket at once.

Our dishwasher was running really noisily and our Samsung stove was not lighting the way it should. Someone came and worked on those. Aaron was awesome. He had to come out a second time with a part and it was a Sunday. He waited because he got here early but he was fine and had no attitude. There was a problem because parts for something he was fixing were changed. Instead of getting frustrated about it, he said, "We can make this work."

AHS replies very quickly and the job gets done within a reasonable amount of time. Timeliness is key, especially when a major appliance goes down. My dryer wasn't spinning properly when there was a load of clothes in it. The first gentleman that came identified the issue and ordered the parts. Then the contractor automatically scheduled a follow-on appointment with me while the gentleman was here. They had the parts shipped directly here to the house. They showed up once they knew the parts were delivered and installed them.
I travel a lot for work, and my wife will send me a text and say, “Hey, the dryer's not spinning properly.” I can log on to American Home Shield's website from wherever I'm at, put in the work order, and a couple days later, somebody is here looking at the issue. We pay our little copay and the issue gets fixed. Our very first work order with American Home Shield was back in 2013 and it was for the water heater. The contractor came in to replace it. As they were getting ready to do the replacement, they found that the wiring wasn't up to code. So we had an additional cost. But all I had to do was agree to pay that additional money, and the appointment was scheduled just like it would have been for anybody else. An electrician came in and replaced all the wiring that needed to be replaced. Then the contractor followed up right behind him installing a new water heater.
When we first moved in, a friend of ours told us about American Home Shield. I was able to go to the website, punch in my address, and it gave me a quote based on the square footage of the house. Then you can decide whether or not to sign up at that time. I've told a good half dozen times about American Home Shield. My wife’s sister has signed on since we've been a customer and one of my brothers is a customer now too.

The first guy that arrived, I asked him to put on his mask. His first response was, “I’ve had my vaccine.” I also asked him to put on shoe covers. I have a light carpet and I don’t walk on it, especially someone that’s been in and out of other people’s homes, and then in and out of the grass. He ordered a part then it came in, and came back out. This time, he did not wear his mask. That was a real concern. They did some additional testing and found that there was an accessible leak in the system. They recharged it and got me right back into being ready for this hot weather we have now. They were very affable and directly involved in getting the best possible repair and outcome for me. With American Home Shield though, the ability to describe the complaint is rather limited. Then I called again and told them that I didn't want him. When he came out here, he said he found some wire wasn’t working, but I needed a whole new unit. He was trying to sell me a unit for $5,000, and to get me to pay him on the side. He told me to give him 5 stars and he was gonna call American Home Shield and report. He asked me for 5 stars.
After that, American Home Shield sent Phil’s out and they looked at the air conditoner. The guy told me what was wrong and he was gonna report it. He told me that American Home Shield would only cover certain stuff and that I would have to pay a portion of it. I was okay with that. Then somebody from American Home Shield called me and told me that I will have to pay $500. So I charged it on one of my credit cards and then Phil's came out two weeks later.
When Phil's came back, they went in the top of the house and they brought out some stuff and they put some more in. Then I had to call them back because the air conditioner wasn't getting cold again. They said, “Well, something was froze up there.” So they told me to cut it off. We did that and then when they came back out, they fixed it and it’s been working ever since. Terrible service. We were out of AC for almost over a month. And we keep going back and forth. American Home Shield contracted with American initially, and they came by to install some stuff wrong, which caused damage to the sheetrock. They came back and fixed it. But I'm out $3,000. A-US Air came back out and they replaced the outdoor unit. But I was having a lot of trouble with the indoor unit. So, American and American Home Shield did a lot of patchwork. It has been going on for a year.
I've been with AHS for 15 years. I've never had these kinds of problems before with other things. I just thought they show all these fancy commercials, talking about how if they couldn't fix it, they would replace it. But they didn't replace anything until the end. And then, the one that was having the most problems, they just patched it up. It’s 102 degrees outside. It’s 95 in the house. I'm gonna keep AHS because I've been with them so long. I'm loyal if I feel like I'm being treated right. But then it’s hard to be loyal. I've put in several complaints and nobody has ever called me. It takes at least 15 times before somebody will call.

I called on a Saturday morning and I was polite but a little bit irritated because nobody was answering. DC gave a call that Monday. Brandon, their tech went through the refrigerator and he was really informative. I learned some things. There is a thing that goes from the freezer to the refrigerator. There was an ice block that had built up above the fan in the flue that throws the air into the refrigerator, stopping cold air from going up. Brandon took care of that and replaced the defrosted part and something else. He told me to wait 48 hours before putting anything in the refrigerator and then it should be good to go.
I waited the 48 hours and things seemed to be going well for a couple of days. But what got me to call AHS back was because the bottles of water I put in the fridge were really good and cold but then all of a sudden they weren't. AHS called DC and Brandon comes back. He tested everything and called somebody at his place. The issue may not or may not have been the defroster but it was the control panel that was out. He told me my refrigerator was gonna be on pause until the control panel could get replaced. So, the refrigerator got unplugged and I sat with an empty refrigerator for a week. But now, it's back working. DC Appliances seemed to be totally on my claim and let me know when Brandon was on his way. I only use American Home Shield when I really need it, but it's always come in handy. Recently, my dryer stopped heating. I did call around to places to get quotes because we have ran into an issue where it was cheaper just to go straight with the company versus American Home Shield. But I found it to be cheaper to just get it done through American Home Shield. I also used AHS for my stove. So, for those type of appliances, it works out really great. When my AC was having issues, the company that American Home Shield sent over was trying to quote us a lot of money and didn't really fix the issue, even though we paid the fee through American Home Shield for them to come out. I essentially paid money and nothing got fixed. So, that was a little bit of a letdown. We were left with an AC that still wasn't cooling.
The tech who came for the dryer was okay. He had to use my vacuum. He needed to vacuum out the dryer. I thought it was a little weird because I figured he would have that stuff on hand. Luckily, I have like a small Shop-Vac. It still really didn't work. I was like, "What would have happened if I didn't have a vacuum at all?" Also, the guy spoke English a little bit. I was like, "Okay. Let me try to figure out how I can help you even though I'm working right now." So, I think some of the contractors that are assigned are not as up to the task as other contractors that I would find on my own. The problem got fixed. I was just kind of scrambling around. I was working because I work from home, and then I was trying to help this guy. AHS should make sure that their contractors are really focused on customer service versus, "Hey, I need you to come hand me this tool."

I had a faucet that wasn't coming on properly. The contractor came out and said it needed some kind of valve in the spray line. So they ordered it, came to my house. I called them, and they came out a couple of days later, put it in, no problem. However, I have a problem with the people that American Home Shield sends. I'm an auto mechanic by trade, and I know somewhat about air conditioning.
I had a brand new unit put in my basement in 2019, and it wasn't working right. AHS sent somebody else out. I couldn't get anybody to do anything because they said it wasn't installed right. I called the people AHS sent out, which was Metro Air, and they wouldn't even return my calls. I know it has been 2019. It’s in my basement and I hardly use it. I live by myself now. So I hardly go down there. And when I went to use it and it wasn’t working right, they came out and said it wasn't installed right.
They didn't even hook up the return air to the unit. It was a mess, so I just said, “Forget it.” I've tried to AHS' people and tried and get some kind of warranty. That was ridiculous. I didn't get anywhere. I couldn't get anybody on the line. I couldn't get anybody to call me back. And everybody's using COVID as an excuse and, “We're short staffed.” So in general, overall, I'm not a happy camper and that's why I didn't renew. AHS' contractors, 90% of the time, are not up to scratch. They're not qualified, or they don't care enough, or they're not making enough money off of AHS to care about. But most of the time, I feel like they don't know. Next time I need something done, I'll just call my own contractor and deal with him straight. At least I'll have a recourse.

Then, only until I got through to someone that they were going to send someone out or find me a company, then send someone and then they were gonna deal with it.
At first, the contractor was saying that I was going to have to wait until a certain date, and it was five days off. Well, who can wait until that time without AC? I understand it's not considered an emergency. But it is an emergency for me, someone coming from England. It's definitely needed in the home. However, the lady that I’ve spoken to earlier told me that they were going to come out today. They squeezed me in the day of, which was fantastic. The problem was the canister and the tech was able to fix it the same day.
It's just that we should be able to pick our own companies in which we go through. What if we're unhappy with the people that AHS chooses? What kind of thing do we have to warrant us towards we don't feel like we're getting good service? We should be able to make that provision on the company that we choose instead of AHS just putting one in for us. Nonetheless, I got a good service this time.

He took care of me, so I really appreciated that, and since the repair, it's been so cold. I would also request his company again if my AC breaks. The claims process with AHS was simple, too. If something goes wrong, you make a phone call to them, you pay a service fee, then someone comes out and looks at it.

We have an almost crown molding type of trim and it started bowing away from the wall. I went over and there was water pouring into our living room. We thought the water was coming from the bathrooms that were above that area. We turned everything off in the bathrooms, and it was still pouring out. It turned out the condenser line to our air conditioner broke. I made a phone call to American Home Shield, which was very easy, and they responded immediately. They set up 5Star Home Services to do our service. I called them Thursday, and they initially said they could come out either Friday afternoon or Saturday. I was like, “No, no, no.” It wasn't a simple drip underneath the bathroom sink. We were soaking three to four towels every hour, and I have a one-year-old running around, trying to grab it. I was worried about my one-year-old and the water coming out of electrical areas. It was like we were at DEFCON.
The rep got the supervisor on the phone, and I explained the situation. The repair people were then out within an hour, and thank God. Number one, we had peace of mind. Number two, it was super crazy having that much water pouring out of our wall. The repair people were great. They looked at everything, told us what was going on and had it fixed within the hour. They had to take a portion of the wall over three quarters of the living room and unfortunately, they can't do the repair to the drywall. It's not what they're contracted for, so we called our insurance company for that.

American Home Shield is doing a much better job than last year. The last couple of times I order the claim, they get back to me immediately, and so does the vendor. Even when I call in, I get through to somebody who's intelligent who can tell me what's going on, so that changed. There was a time when I didn't want to keep my contract. But I don't feel that way anymore. Everything seems to be running pretty smoothly. I would recommend them.

So when I called AHS, I requested him. He came out and he was good. I’d recommend him. This was one of the hotter days and he came out expediently. My air conditioner is working now.
As far as the service I’ve been getting lately, AHS has been good. But I had bad experiences with one of the companies that they had. So I specified that I do not want that company coming out to serve me anymore because they said negative things and they lied. It was a plumbing issue in my home and the tech said that I abused my toilet.

Once he finished doing the diagnostic, he told me what it was and said he needed to get a part, and he was gonna look for it. About an hour later, he called me and said, “I found the part. I’ll swing by later this afternoon and put that part on for you, and take care of you.” It was a good experience. He did what he told me he was gonna do and took care of it that same day.

The ultimate problem with the unit was the coils upstairs in the attic needed to be replaced. A contractor came out on a Thursday to fix the problem but it was misdiagnosed. The leak reappeared the day later. We called American Home Shield and they didn't send somebody out until Monday even though it was an AC problem. That was a little frustrating. We would have hoped they would have sent somebody out immediately since it was based on a misdiagnosis. What's difficult with American Home Shield is that when you call in, you go into a loop that puts you on hold. Sometimes you can be brought off hold immediately and sometimes you can stay on hold for up to a half an hour. Many times when you call in, you're always speaking to someone different about your claim. You can never get the same person twice that may have worked on your claim. It can become very frustrating because a lot of times it's just like starting from scratch again.
We had another experience with replacing a microwave/built-in oven. It went on for months. They were going to replace the board then they couldn't get a board. They they were going to retrofit the board but the board got lost and they said they couldn't rebuild the board. Now we're going to replace the microwave. They're trying to replace it with something not in kind and you have to go through that process to get exactly what you had in your house to replace. They have to order and it took over four months to get that microwave fixed.
Whenever we have called American Home Shield, we've always had somebody out for the first call within two days. But it's after you get that initial call, if it's more complicated than the vendor fixing it immediately, it is a very painful process to work with them. We recently had a situation with a built-in refrigerator and it wasn't until the third vendor walked in the house and said he works on those models. The first two walked in the house and said they didn't so we had to go back in the loop again even after American Home Shield have been told what the model was.

The people that AHS had sent out the first time for the air conditioner had to come back a couple of times. But I don't think it’s anyone’s issue. It’s just the air conditioner. The last time, it took about five days for it to act up again. They have come out this week and so far, so good, but I just keep my fingers crossed. I've had AHS many years ago, and I had to end up canceling them because I didn't appreciate what they were doing or who they were sending. But so far, this second go around with them, they've been okay. The only thing is they should always try to help the consumer who pays monthly as much as possible.

American Home Shield’s representatives are hit or miss. Some of them are really good and can immediately address the problem. Others can't even explain the questions they're asking. They're just like, “Oh, this is the question I'm told to ask.” One of them was asking how many switches was on a panel, but they couldn't tell me what panel or what type of switch I was supposed to be looking for. I kept waiting on hold. She kept looking it up and couldn't tell me and then said, “I just have to ask this question.” I was like, “I can't answer it if I don't know what panel I'm looking for.” If I hit a good representative, I'm really happy. If it's a bad one, it's really frustrating.
As far as the contractors, they were really great about coming out and being prompt and responsive. They've been out here four times trying to get my shower to work. We discovered the problem why they hadn't found it initially was a really bad DIY job by the previous owners who had apparently done something so stupid, you wouldn't think to look for it.
When submitting a claim to AHS, I usually call and then ask for a representative because their automated system on the phone is really bad. Also, I've never really figured out their online stuff as much. It’s fine if it's a really straightforward thing, but if it's a weirdness, which is usually with an old house, it's not as good. Overall, as far as home warranty companies go, AHS is pretty solid.

We had a problem with our air conditioning system. Two years ago, we had to have our house completely gutted, and everything in our home’s brand new, including the AC. And I noticed, when I woke up that morning, this vent had water around it. Our air conditioner unit is located in the attic. My husband climbed up in the attic and the pan underneath the air conditioner was full of water. So, we called American Home Shield and scheduled somebody to come out. And they came out and fixed the problem.
I have been with AHS for many years and I don't care for the website. It takes the human element out of it. I stick with AHS because they have been so good to me. But their company is not what it used to be years ago. With the exception of this past time, right here when All South came out, I've been very disappointed with their company.
I'll give you an example of a well company that AHS sent out here when my well pump went out. Contractor came out. He looked at it and he said, “Well, I guess I'm gonna have to just put you off a couple of days. I got to run up here and get some part.” My husband went and purchased the parts and helped the man put them on because he didn't know what he was doing. I called and complained about it. And you know what I was told by AHS? “Well, ma'am, you always have the option to go with a different company.” I was like, “I've been with y'all for years and years and years. Right now y'all are making money out for me.” Two years ago, my house was completely gutted. Every appliance right down to the dishwasher, washing machine, everything is brand new. It's still under factory warranty. So they are making money off of me right now.
When I do need them, I need reputable service to come out here. If my husband's gonna have to do the work on the thing, I’ll save the $75. But I know from personal experience at how valuable AHS' service truly is. There are older people that don't have access to online accounts. And I live in a retirement community. I have sent AHS a lot of customers because they stand behind their agreement. It's just they need better companies that they are dealing with. Not just these little fly-by-night companies that aren't licensed and bonded and don't give a damn.
I'm tickled when they call me. That’s the reason why I don't mind seeing that money leave my account every month. But when I do need them, I would like to be able to, like it was years ago, call in. “Well, hey, Mrs. Sartin. How are you doing? Well, thank you for being a loyal customer. What can I do for you?” My mother had a massive heart attack and it was hot summertime. And my air conditioner went out and I called AHS. They couldn't get anybody out here to fix it, but they sent me a window unit out here. The man came in and put it in for my mother to keep her cool, because she couldn't breathe well, until they could come back out here and fix my AC. That's the reason why I’m still with AHS.

When I submitted a claim with AHS, everything was fine. They put the referral in and I got a call that next day. It was really good. The guy went into the crawlspace, figured out it was some switchboard in the system that needed to be replaced. He gave us a quick fix, which was to turn the fan on so we can get some air circulating. He told me they will order the part.
I got a call from the company verifying that he came back, gave them the information and they ordered the part. They called back, scheduled a time to come back out, came back out, fixed it, and I haven't had any issues. They explained everything well and they messed nothing up. I was expecting it to take longer but they did it at a pretty fast pace so I was really pleased with that. The unit is working and we have nice and cool air. It was a very good experience.
I've had other repairs done by American Home Shield. When my refrigerator went out, techs came and replaced the motherboard on that. It was the same thing for my dishwasher. But when my microwave went out, techs could not get that fixed so I'm in the process of sending the paperwork. American Home Shield requested I buy a new microwave so I did and they allowed me $400 for that. I just need to send in the receipt showing that I bought one.
Having American Home Shield is great and it's one of the best things I have done. My house is probably going on 11 years old so things are starting to fall apart. I'm glad that I was able to get them as a home warranty. They are pretty fast and fair. The price for what I pay is really well too. For the techs to come in and either fix the problem or replace them is really good for us.

Do not buy this "insurance", you will be better off hiring directly a contractor to solve right the way any damages. This company has no sense of urgency nor customer service. My experience: The kitchen faucet broke on a Wednesday, creating a massive leak, I opened a service request the same day, and the contractor arrived on that Friday (just to inspect without fixing the problem (because AHS have to approve the repair) ... and the leak continued....
After a week and daily calls to AHS and the contractor, the problem still there as of today... and the leak penetrated the kitchen floor tiles (from the sink all the way to the fridge... literally water is coming out from the tiles junctions anytime anyone step into the kitchen), and the wood of sink furniture is ruined by the water. This is the worst experience I ever had with an "insurance", you will definitely be better off hiring a contractor by yourself instead of waiting for their slow moving authorization process and lack of urgency.

My water heater stopped producing hot water last Saturday. First thing Sunday morning, I called AHS and put a claim in for service. Mike from All Clear was my service guy and I had to call him twice on Monday morning. He seems like a very small one-and-two-guy company and he’s doing a lot. He called me at 8:00 something, which is fine, and we talked about what was going on. I sent him some pictures of the water heater and he looked at the code. He said the code said to restart the pilot light.
The igniter had gone out and that was why the water heater was not producing hot water. He said, "I’ll just come out there tomorrow. But you're probably going to need a replacement. So how about Thursday?” It took him over three days and now, I'm almost a week without hot water. When he came, he was downstairs for a little bit and was trying to do some things. He said he was a preferred vendor. He would rather I was happy than upset. He was going to order a replacement water heater.
My water heater was 13 years old and it was gonna die at some point. I've had AHS since I bought my condo last year for the sole purpose that at some point in time, these systems are going to fail and I wouldn't have money for that. I asked Mike what the timeframe was going to be for the new water heater and he said it was hard to get water heaters right now. He scooted around the subject and I was expected to be without hot water for two weeks and I have two small kids. I’m willing to wait. I understand there are manufacturing problems right now across the board. I'm slightly irritated, but it is what it is. But it would be great if there is anything that AHS could do to speed up getting a water heater. I really don't want to be waiting three weeks for it.
On the whole, All Clear has done good work. Mike is phenomenal and I really like him. He’s very truthful. He could have sat there and said, “I'm going to replace the control panel. I’ll see you later.” Instead, he recommended the right thing to do, which is to replace the water heater because it's so old. I tell everybody about AHS and I would do it all over again.

We had a bad evaporator coil and I received a quote from a contractor. I did not have a lot of faith in what I was given so I called Home Shield and they said I could get a second opinion. I used A-US in the past through my home warranty. They came out and they mentioned that our outside unit, which was still operating, was using R21 or R22 refrigerant and that was at over $100 per pound. You can't make any more of it now and it's only what's been stockpiled in this country. A-US suggested that this would be a good opportunity to go with another refrigerant that is far cheaper and is also being made at this point in time in this country. The outside unit was 10 years old and the inside unit had to get redone anyway. I went with A-US' quote for a completely new system. They were very helpful.
Overall, the past decade or so with Home Shield has been positive. But I had one bad experience, from my perspective, three years ago. We had a bad water heater and the plumber that Home Shield sent out said we needed a new water heater. We also needed $800 in other things that were not covered. At the time, I did not know about the second opinion aspect. If I did, I would have taken it. What the plumber was saying was that our water heater was not up to our city's code. I went to shut it off to shut that bathroom down because I just redid all the floors in the rest of the house and I was going to be furious if it got ruined by another water leak. With my water demon house, everything is all jacked up and I rely on AHS so I don't have to come so much out of pocket. Even if I could put that $75 in savings and sometimes things wouldn't happen, I haven't cancelled the warranty as I feel extra comfort in knowing that if something does happen it's there. I called them the next day and we made an appointment for their guy to come out. The tech came out and he replaced the capacitor in the outside compressor. He also told me how to restart it, which I did later in the day and it seemed like it was working. But within about 24 hours, it stopped again. He came back out a couple of days later when they had an opening for an appointment and fixed something in the outside compressor. He had to replace a part and he got it replaced in a very short time. Also, he did a little preventive thing so the same thing would not happen again. He was very courteous and seemed to know his business.
Using AHS's online page to make a service request is adequate but I wouldn't say their online presence is really user-friendly. I had a claim for a stove and I paid the service call fee. That was all fine. They assigned a repair contractor close to a week ago and I tried multiple times but I kept getting a message that the call wouldn't go through. I looked up the company online and tried sending them an email days ago but there was no response. And there's no place on AHS's website where, as a warranty holder, I can send an email and get a response from someone who knows what they're talking about. I can request a service, open a request, or cancel a request, but there's no way to let them know that a phone number isn't working and they need to assign someone else.
I called them this morning and I had to go through the automated menu, which I was very unhappy with because the choices they give are not intuitively obvious. Then, I finally got to a representative and she tried calling the contractor. The same thing happened and then she said to give her four hours to try to get in touch with the contractor by email or phone. I agreed but I wasn't thrilled about it. It was like they don't believe that I've been trying every day for a week. Then, they did not respond to me within the timeframe. She said to give them four hours and I gave them five and a half and hadn't heard anything. I called back and I didn't get the same person. They would not give me an extension number that I could call them directly and deal with the same person.
I had to go through the whole phone menu again, which takes close to 10 minutes. I got another person and I explained the whole situation to them. The rep said she wanted to try calling the contractor, which didn't work. They finally decided to assign me to another person. But first, they were going to cancel the payment that I made for the service call and we're going to open a new service request. That seems like a waste of time and energy to me.
Then, whoever they assigned me to couldn't make an appointment for over a week. I had already been waiting for over a week. I asked if they had another provider and they did. The contractor is going to come on Wednesday but they gave me a time range between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, which isn't reasonable. I get that their techs don't always know exactly what time they will be coming but it's an unacceptable window to me. I don't mind waiting an hour or two but 9 hours seem excessive for what they have to do.
The other thing that ticked me off about this claim was when put in the service request, I had to put in the make of the appliance and the model number. I did that. I went over to the house and I took a picture of the plaque on the stove. I put that in so I don't understand why they asked for all of that again once they verified who was calling and once they knew about my contract. The other thing that I found annoying with their representatives is they give you a whole spiel about how sorry they are that you're having this problem and every time you answer a question, it's, "Thank you for giving me that information." It's too much like talking to a machine and it's a runaround and a waste of time.
It seems like there are barriers that there don't need to be. I would be fine with having a lot of the process online if they give some areas to answer questions that are a little more open-ended. Also, aside from that and a toll-free number, there is no other way to get in touch with them. I feel like a lot of what I did today could have been done by email and I don't understand why some of it couldn't be done by email.

This was the second time I’ve dealt with AHS and they’ve been really good with me.

The ice maker of the refrigerator wasn't working and a switch that's inside the latch of my dishwasher was broken. AHS said somebody was coming from A&E services. They had to have A&E call and set up the appointment. The contractor was excellent. They were on time, knowledgeable and they explained everything well. There was a person who came to see exactly what the problem was. That person who diagnosed the ice maker didn't have the part on his truck so the contractor ordered it and had it shipped to me. After the part came in, they schedule to have someone else come out and install it. The same thing happened with the dishwasher. We're very happy with American Home Shield. When we moved out here and bought our home, part of the contract was to have a home warranty. I asked specifically for American Home Shield because we had worked with them before and they were very dependable.

While receiving a description of benefits, AHS mentioned that I could have a locksmith come through to help us with some rekeying. That's definitely something we needed with the house, given that we only received two keys for the front door and no keys for any of the other locks in the house. The locksmith was able to work through the locks and rekey them to three separate keys while he was here, and charged us for the extra keys beyond what was on the policy. It was four keys total, six rekeys, and then he charged for another 12, plus the hardware for another lock. But all in all, it went well. It took four hours. He did a really good job. Went well from him. He was very descriptive and efficient. Our experience with AHS has been good so far. I'm not usually a person who uses warranties per se. I tend to decline additional coverage. But it's been good to know that, when a claim goes in, it works. I feel good about that.

I put in a claim for a pipe leak. I used the web portal and it was very easy to schedule someone and arrange the time for them to come by. The leaky pipe on the top was resolved. But the contractor needs to come back and patch the hole in the ceiling. Because the plumber is coming, there's more work to be done. Also, we had ceiling damage due to the pipe leak and one of the two repairs could not be repaired because it wasn't active, but we see historical damage. So I was gonna call the representative at American Home Shield to verify that we can get that fixed. I also had another claim last week for a leaky pipe on the washer and that was fixed. Then we had an issue with the faucet and it was also resolved last week.
Having American Home Shield is good because it reduces a lot of worries. I do have concerns about limits of damages assessed because if we purchase a warranty, it should cover all damages. So one issue I've seen is trying to verify what's included and not included in the warranty without reading through pages and pages of what's covered and not covered. But other than that, American Home Shield seems like it's a good investment if they can get these things fixed. They refer trusted technicians to come out and do the repairs, which is good because I don't have to go and review them.

American Home Shield should try to improve on their customer service and they should have a CSR rep here in the States. When they are out of the States, there’s a comprehension problem. I had a rep that continued to be a little bit more aggressive and assertive trying to please the needs that I needed at the time. I made my decision and she kept trying to force her hand. I told her I do not live in a dictatorship and I make my own decisions. Other than that, American Home Shield has been decent so far. It's a great service and they are better than my last warranty. Whenever I submitted my claim to Home Shield, I did it online. Things would come up right away for me to pick a few options of a time and date that would be good for me. I did a claim on a weekend and that Monday, they took one of the times and told me that was when my appointment time would be. When the technicians came in, they asked if I wanted them to take their shoes off. A lot of people would just trample right on in but they didn't. They were considerate seeing how I kept my house extra clean. They were very friendly and they seemed to know what they were doing. They fixed the problem and as long as that stays fixed, we're good to go.
My son just bought a house and I told him that before his warranty runs out on his appliances, he needed to get Home Shield. I like to ask the repair people when they come, "If I didn't have Home Shield, how much would this repair cost me?" Home Shield is still a good deal and I have saved thousands in one year alone. I have notified American Home Shield and a technician is supposed to be coming out Tuesday next week.
I had issues with my refrigerator before and there was a different contractor that came out that was a local. They were clean and went over everything that they were doing. When they said they had to order parts, they kept me informed. It was the owner who would call me and give me the status on the part ordering. With Premier, I got a text saying it was another three weeks for the part. I called to find out what the status was on the parts because I was told that there were only two parts instead of three parts that were ordered. They said they were still waiting to get the approval by AHS for the parts. I asked what parts were approved. They said it was the the gasket and the sensor. I asked what about the light. They said the light was not approved. I asked why wasn’t the light approved and they didn’t give me a real answer. I still have no light in the freezer. I would like to see quicker response from AHS and have service contractors that are local, not distant. Also, when I called AHS, the agent's English wasn't that great.

The company went and checked on the unit, and they did something but it didn't work. When they went back, they found out that it was a compressor and they said it would be almost three weeks for that. I called and said that it would be impossible to have someone living in the house with the heat at this temperature, and yet they were saying three weeks without AC in this area. They said there was not much they could do. I have to talk to another person until they kind of rush it. But it took a week and a half to do the repair.
I couldn't find any solution from AHS, and this is not the first time something like this happened. In the past, I had a problem with a microwave, and the problem led to the house getting on fire. So at this point, I am very disappointed. I’ve been with this company for several years but now I'm thinking about looking for another option. When talking about air conditioning and heating problems, they should have the parts that they might need. Compressors are universal and some other parts from AC units are kind of universal as well. They should have better suppliers for that to solve the problem quicker.

It was in our ceiling upstairs loft, inside a hallway closet, inside of a bathroom around the toilet, in a bedroom wall to the bathroom, and in our garage ceiling. They said they were going to send somebody out. CNJ Services came out to see what the issue was and determined it was the AC unit which was something that they don't work with. After they came, American Home Shield told me they were going to send an AC company, which never happened. I called American Home Shield and they told me they're going to send another company out that came now.
Communication with the companies that are coming out could be better. American Home Shield assigns a company that never shows up or never reaches out unless we call. The response on calling them for an emergency, like an AC in the middle of June in Arizona, could also improve. There was one time I had about 30 days without AC in my house because companies wouldn't show up. But I'm still with American Home Shield because I know warranty companies can help in a situation when something needs to get fixed.

I just felt from the beginning that they sort of gave me the runaround. I don't feel they were honest. The first guy that came in was good. He identified the issues. Then, they had to come back and do the work. The doorbell that they supposedly fixed still doesn't work. Then someone kept calling me and saying some kind of outside plug wasn't covered, and it's attached to my home, and if I wanted it taken care of, it would be $80. So, that was very confusing to me.
Then Omega Electric's customer service is terrible. When the guy came back, he had to replace the ceiling fan because they determined it wasn't working. He came back with a small ceiling fan and said that it was going to make a hole and I'd have to be responsible for the drywall in the ceiling around the hole. I called American Home Shield, and they said, “No. We take care of that.” Then I told the guy, “I don't understand why you would be making a bigger hole than you need to make and cause more trouble when you're a warranty company.” So, he called someone in his company. They called me back, and they said, “Oh, we apologize.” He said it was his fault. He ordered the wrong-sized ceiling fan. When they came back, instead of having a ceiling fan that would work, he brought a part and he was gonna try to fix the ceiling fan. The part wasn't right. It didn't work in there.
I called American Home Shield, and they were awful. I've recommended them to so many people. I feel bad now. American Home Shield pretty much forced me to take a buyout. They never called me back with any buyout information. They're gonna pay me for what? So I can get a new ceiling fan? I want them to fix it. I don't want a new ceiling fan that I put in and I pay for. I'm very dissatisfied at this point. Prior to this last issue, I was satisfied and I thought it was really great and I recommended it but I won't do that anymore.

We had an inspector come out. The inspector said that the differential in the air conditioner was not correct, and it needed to be corrected. He also said that there was a lot of condensation in our attic that needs to be checked. Because that was an indicator that the ducts were leaking and that the insulation had pulled away from the pipe coming from the house to the air conditioner, and that needed to be replaced.
I submitted two claims with AHS. I didn't realize that the ducts could be covered at first, and it didn't let me click both the air conditioner and the ducts. When I saw the same company was doing both of them, that was when I called American Home Shield. I called in when I saw that the ducts could be claimed because I didn't realize they would be able to be. The girl said, "Oh, yes, ma'am. Let me look at your report. And yes, ma'am, your ducts are covered."
The tech came out and he went out and looked at the air conditioner. He checked all points of the air conditioner. Then, he went up in the attic and he looked at all the ducts to see if there were leaks in the ducts that the inspector said were there. Then, he checked the temperature in the house to make sure it was matching the temperature on the thermostat. He also redid the insulation on the pipe of the air conditioner.
The guy from Sevier Climate Control was really nice and was very efficient. He showed me what he was doing and I gave him the inspection report of all the issues that the inspection report showed and he went through each one of them. We had two pest control, a construction person for our structure, and an inspector come out. He was consistent with the other three licensed professionals that came out here. He went through and checked everything that they asked and he had all of it in his bag of tools and gauges. He did as well as any of the other ones that have ever been out here.

We've also had our dishwasher done, our microwave, dryer, plumbing in our bathroom that I didn't even know plumbing was part of my thing. Every fall and spring, we pay the deductible and they come out and service our air conditioner. Then, in the fall, they do our heater. Our air conditioner is 20 years old and it's spot on to the Nest Thermostat. Our water heater went out, it would have cost us $3,000, but we paid 300 to get it to code. We believe in them 100%.

I’m feeling pretty good about the service of AHS. I felt that the only issue is the 30-day policy that they have. There are a couple of bumps in the road, but AHS has been beneficial. With my recent claim, the contractor was on time. He called me. He was in and out. He was clean and very professional.
Are you still in need of assistance?

We called for the washing machine and the contractor came out quickly. They just needed to tighten this one hose and the washing machine has been totally fine. They explained things clearly and they were pleasant to be around.

Our air conditioning unit wasn't heating up my second floor during a heatwave we had and nobody was available to get out here during that time. The temperature then dropped and techs came out. My air conditioning was already going back and they couldn't figure out what was going on. Everything was okay but I ended up wasting $125.

The tech was very efficient and he was up to par with everything. He was very respectful to my home. He explained what went wrong to me and what he was going to do. But I didn't like the wait time. I had to wait two weeks before somebody could come out. The guy explained to me that they were backed up with work, because of the COVID. Otherwise, AHS was good. They respond in a decent timeframe. All the times that I have reached out to them for assistance they have done a great job.

I had a pipe leak burst about a foot off of my house. Because it wasn't inside the home, it was a foot off of the house, it wasn't covered. I wish American Home Shield covered my claim. Other than that, the contractor was great.

The AC at my mother's house right on Belvedere wasn't cooling. My mom is 88 years old, and she said the tech could not have been nicer. We’re having some 100-degree days, so that was great. He came the next day. We are completely satisfied. We have all of our homes on American Home Shield, and it seems trying to manage my mom, for her and me, it was easy to just get online, get the ticket put in and get a response. Then the contractor texted me when they were on the way. All of that is really important.

The evaporator was leaking. I assumed that since it was the middle of summer, I was gonna have to wait a while. But the contractor called me the next day, after I went on American Home Shield, and scheduled my appointment for the day after that. They were able to schedule me sooner. Then they came in, looked at the tube, and knew exactly what to do. They checked out the main AC just to check on the charge of it. They were here for five minutes. If I would have known how easy the fix was, I could have done it myself. But then when I realized I was having an issue, I knew that I didn't have to call around and try to figure out what to do. I could just go to American Home Shield and tell them about it and they would find somebody who could help me. The peace of mind is worth it.

I had a previous provider before American Home Shield that I liked. We didn't have these huge price hikes when we renewed. I don't like the price hike with AHS. It might be beneficial to them, but certainly not to me. I'm getting the same service, but I'm paying more for it. Also, when I do claims, I get some kind of robot and then it makes you pay the deductible upfront before the service technician arrives. I don't like that. My former company didn't have to do that. I paid the contractor. When I had a claim with the ice maker, the tech finally fixed the problem, but it took him three attempts to do so. So, I had to call them back three times.

When we would let our garage up, it would go up partially and then it would trip the breaker. Sometimes, that would happen four or five times consecutively. It got to a point where when we would take the dog out, one of us would have to stay in the house because we may have to go down and flip the breaker most of the time. We filed a claim with AHS and Elite Electric came out and went through everything. When they came out, it was in the morning and the issue didn't happen. My fiance may have opened that garage door 20 times and it never did it. The fuse box was checking fine and the contractor said to let them know if we continue to have any problems.
That evening when we went to take the dog out, the garage tripped the breaker. My fiance reached back out to the contractor and they came back. The tech did the same thing and checked everything but everything was fine. He told us we may want to reach out to the electric company to have them come out to make sure everything's okay. Also, we had them change a couple of breakers - the one in the garage and a few other ones that we noticed we had a problem with. Since they’ve done that, we haven't had any problems.

I had a gas leak on one of the burners on my stove. The repairman that came out did a great job. He was awesome. He went to order parts, but couldn't get parts for it. It’s an old stove. So American Home Shield agreed to replace the stove, which was great. They did a good job. But the contractor they used to deliver the stove here in Cincinnati was not up-to-par. They scheduled to deliver my stove twice but both times, they failed to show up. No call, no show. But as far as American Home Shield themselves and the people they sent out to repair the stove, they were top-notch. I was very pleased with them.
The claims process with American Home Shield was very simple and easy to get through. It does take a few days to get the contractor out here. But we haven't had any emergency situations where we really needed them out here quick. So that wasn't a big deal. American Home Shield has done a really good job. I've been thrilled with it. I would recommend it for somebody that doesn't repair their own stuff. For the price, it can't be beat. They've done good for us.

My dishwasher isn't draining properly. When I finish the first load, I have two inches of suds in the bottom so that tells me that there is suds on my dishes. I run it through a quick rinse and all the suds are gone, but I shouldn't have to do something two times to get the dishes clean. Another thing is when I start up the dishwasher the next time, it always drains first and that smells like sewer water because it has been sitting in the line.
I called American Home Shield and the fella that I talked to on the phone set up everything. I was to hear something within the next 24 hours from somebody. If the service company doesn't call me, I could call them, which I went ahead and did because I needed to get appointments set up and not wait. The service company got me in really good at a time that worked for me. I was very pleased with them.
I had to have the dishwasher people out twice now. When the guy first came, it was raining that day. He came in with his shoes and no booties. I told him, "When you go to somebody's home, especially if it's a brand-new carpet, you need to take your shoes off if it's raining." I was upset because I had to get down on the floor in my hands and knees with a towel to get up all the water. When he came last week, he put his little booties on before he came in the door. He had a learning experience and the company had one as well. That aside, the fella did a great job and he explained everything to me. He told me the dishwasher could not be fixed. He had to fill out a form and get it to American Home Shield. Somebody would then get back to me. That was last week. I haven't heard a word back as to what our next step is going to be.
American Home Shield's service is slower than the commercials on television where if something goes wrong, it's fixed immediately. That aside, I still recommended them to a friend of mine that just bought another house which is an older one. She signed up with them. In my case, I signed up for two years because I didn't want to have to deal with anything.

The water heater was leaking. I always do my claims to American Home Shield online, but there was not a water heater checkbox. So, I clicked some other box. When TMD called, they were like, "Oh, it's not the air conditioner?" I said, "No. It's a water heater. But there's no box to check for American Home Shield." The two gentlemen who came out to do the assessment were here about 10 minutes, and they looked and said that I needed a new water heater just by looking at it. It was the original water heater in the place. They didn't give me any paperwork or write off. They just said they would order it and they left.
When they ordered it, TMD called me back and said, "Oh, American Home Shield got the wrong one." That was three weeks later. I was like, “This thing's leaking. I gotta get this in here.” They were like, "Yeah. We'll have to order a new one." They ordered a new one and then they had two completely different gentlemen come out for the install. The gentlemen that installed it did not give me any paperwork again. I wrote them a check for what American Home Shield says the difference was. They said they couldn't use any of the other parts to save me any other money. So, I just wrote them the check for the $455, and then they left. Everything seems to be good. It's only been two weeks, but I don't seem to have any issues.
The only thing is the first set of guys had covers for their shoes, but the second set of guys didn't. None of them were wearing masks. They did have company shirts, which were fine. They did arrive within the time window, too. So that was all right. The work was good but they had to use a blowtorch. They probably should let people know that they're going to use a blowtorch inside their home. I did not like that they did not work on the weekend. I had the booking on a Friday, and I had to take the day off and switch my days off. That was a little bit of inconvenience on the consumer's side.
Also, they don't email. They don't text message, and there's no app or system. The rep was just like, "We'll call. I'll call you back or this or that." So, there was a lot of phone calls, and then she does not pick her messages up. It seems like it's a family-owned business. You would call, leave a detailed message if you missed their call, and she wouldn't listen to the message. She would just call you back. It was really old school. To a certain factor that is very nice because you still have people that have privately owned small businesses but at the same token, they're not growing with what's going on out there in the world today using either texting, emailing or alerting. There was no survey. The social aspect media of it is nil.

Our family air conditioner on the outside was not operating, and the tech who came put a new capacitor in, and that did the trick. He was early and seemed friendly. We had a couple other claims to American Home Shield before, and their claim process seemed reasonable.

I've got a house that I rent out and I have the coverage on that. And I had a couple of friends that recommended American Home Shield. The main service when I put in a ticket and I was contacted who American Home Shield set up, which was the Atlanta Air, was good. They came out twice and were out there within a few hours. And then had a refrigerator issue, and AHS got somebody take a little longer on that, but real good on that when they came out. Professional people and timely on most issues. I was told my bill is gonna go up in a couple of months on my contract. They just said I had a couple of claims and then the cost of the people coming out is more expensive now. But another guy I work with got it for $40 a month. He got it for cheaper than what I did the same day I called AHS. He had some promotion code and it came out to be 40 bucks a month. Other than that, if it stays the price same, it would be great.

We called AHS because our refrigerator went out. The tech that came out was very good. We really liked him. The service of the tech was great. The refrigerator’s working. However, it took us a month to get the part in for the refrigerator. We were without the refrigerator for a month. But that was the only drawback. But that didn’t use to be that way with American Home Shield or with the services that they’ve provided. Though I think a lot of it has to do with the environment right now and the COVID. I definitely recommend AHS. We're really satisfied with it so far.
