We just bought our house. We got one free rekeying of the house. A guy from Pop-A-Lock came out and explained to me what he was going to do and asked me what locks I needed to get done. I showed him what locks I needed to be done. He took care of business, and then he gave me the new keys and left. I'm satisfied with American Home Shield so far.

When we moved in the house, the AC was working correctly. It was getting cold. But two weeks after we moved in, we noticed the downstairs wasn't cooling off so we called American Home Shield. A week in, the tech said that I was low on Freon. So, I was hoping that he would be able to get the service order to get in to work on it. But AHS called me back stating that this is a preexisting issue.
It wasn't a great experience with the AC because we're still kinda dealing with the situation. When I called the actual company a second time to get an understanding of what's going on, they said that they didn't do a full investigation due to the insurance that we had. So, it seemed like they were trying to get a side service agreement with us separate from the warranty. We got a new house just recently and AHS rejected two of our requests already. We spoke to a representative who told is about all the services that were gonna be covered. I was diligent on wanting to know what was gonna be covered.
We appreciate you sharing your home warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Stacy and I will email you shortly as I would like to speak to you more about your concerns.

I called the AC service guy and he said, "Everything's fine." After one month, the gas had leaked. American Home Shield fixed that problem and I'm enjoying good weather now inside the house. The only problem with AHS is waiting for the technician to come. When I call for service, it takes a few days. But when the techs come, they solve the problems.

AHS has been a blessing so far. The things that I have needed to be done are under the umbrella of what I'm paying for and for the most part, I like the consistency of the vendors that they have sent. AHS is nice. If something breaks down, I can have it repaired instead of always having to buy something brand new again. I’ve been with them for a couple of years now. My washing machine broke recently. The tech had to order some new parts and then he fixed it for me. It was quick.

It's taking a while to get my dryer part. Initially, the contractor called right away, and we did the virtual video diagnosis. But since then, I've been calling them. They said it should be here by the end of the week. I called today, which is the end of the week, and it's not gonna be here until Tuesday. I submitted this claim last Thursday, so I was expecting to have my driver fixed by now. American Home Shield should have contractors that are timely and have good communication.

I called American Home Shield to see if they could send someone out to look at my AC. And they did. The tech came out and turned it on. He looked at everything and said there was air coming out, but it wasn't cool. So, I called American Home Shield back. I asked them if they could send a different company. But they said they had to send the same company. So, the same company came back out. He went outside. He said some wires were broken in the box. He fixed the wires and it's working. So when he left, the AC was on 74. And now it's on 76. But it's still not working. My AC is still broken. I don't want to have to pay another $125 for the same thing.

American Home Shield is expensive every month and they should lower the fees. But it's fine. I get service setup within 24 hours of placing a service call and the vendors that come out are professional and great. I had an issue with the refrigerator and it was fixed. Sears, the contractor, always come out and they’re really good.

My AC wouldn't come on. Their communication was great and the tech did a great job. He found out that the problem was an Appalachian Power problem. We're really liking American Home Shield's service because it came in handy for three things already, and the coverage has been good. The service that we've gotten through American Home Shield has been good. We had the AC serviced, which was fine. The kid came out and checked everything on the AC. He was very friendly, identified himself, came in, and took care of the job in one day. He couldn't have known that our blower fan was gonna go out. Before that, we had our dryer go out. Also, before that, something happened to our fridge. So, we've really made the most of our coverage.

The service is pretty good. But a lot of the people they send out are Russians and we have a little difficulty understanding them. Other than that, we feel comfortable with the warranty. We added our pool to the coverage a few years back. Whatever if back there, they cover it all if there's a problem. Also, they're quick if you have stuff put in for a repair. We used to have to wait a couple of days to find out who they were going to send out. Now they tell you immediately which company it's going to be. So we know right away and we call them if we haven’t heard from them and we arrange things to our convenience.

Our refrigerator wasn't working right. The ice maker was not putting out ice and the freezer was frozen. It was very cold but the refrigerator part was warm. It was also making this tick, tick, tick noise. I initially called American Home Shield and it was really hard. I was on hold for 45 minutes. Someone finally picked up but then hung up on me. I called back and I was on hold for about 15 minutes. I got somebody after that. I run into this kind of hold time nearly every time but only for a few minutes between six and eight minutes. It's not horrible but it's not wonderful either.
After I made the claim, I got the name of the service company and their number. The experience with them was pretty good but they didn't solve the problem the first time. I called back to American Home and told them the refrigerator wasn’t working still and they got another guy to come back out. That fellow came and tinkered around some more and figured it was fixed then left. But it wasn't fixed so I called again. A third guy came out. This was actually the first guy that came earlier. He wasn't leaving here until the refrigertor was fixed. He took his time and went through everything. He did a very good job and definitely earned his tip.
He did a deep cleaning of the coils and everything the first time he came. That was an additional cost I paid $50 to Sears for. That didn't fix the problem but it probably helped to make things better. He talked about the size of our refrigerator cave or that space in the wall. This is a huge refrigerator for that space. The people that we bought the house from had this fridge for them and it was an inch away from each wall. There was no more room. The tech discussed this space with me the first time he was here but not much more.
When he came out the final time, he pulled out the refrigerator all the way out again and he removed the back panel that was covering the motor and everything there. It had air holes in it for the fan to take in air. He made some more air holes in it near to where this little motor was ticking so that the fan could draw in air from inside, blow through, and the air would have more places to exit and cool down that motor some more. The ticking was the motor overheating. He said, “I want you to pull the refrigerator out an extra inch from the back wall. Your fridge will have to stick out a little bit more. But these are the things you have to do to keep it running as long as possible and keep from having to replace your fridge for as long as possible.” He gave me some pointers and he showed me where to put food in my freezer in particular so that I get the most airflow to the refrigerator.
The freezing problem had to do with some lines freezing in between the fridge and freezer or the drainage. He completely defrosted that aspect and he did something to make it so that didn't happen again. He packed some more insulation around it. The ice maker wasn't making very much ice. There was a mechanism in it that wasn't functioning well. It was sticking so he took a part from a piece he had in his truck and he jerry-rigged it and made it work. It took care of the ticking noise and the icemaker problem. Everything happened at once.
The other issues were all one basically. He just had to do a few things to correct it. He took the time to really explain what was important about taking good care of the refrigerator so that it would last as long as possible. He said it's going to be on its way out. It's old enough that you got to be careful and just take very good care of it. In general, I've had very good service with American Home Shield with the exception of having to hold while waiting for an initial contact. That was the only thing that would detract from a really good, shining report of them.

But he couldn’t fix my bathtub right away because the water had to be turned off in the entire building. When he realized that he couldn’t get it solved that day, he gave me his cellphone number and said when I found out that the water could be turned off, to call or text him directly because he wanted to be able to finish the job. Everything is great. I like the convenience of being able to call and not have to try to find my own vendors. The refrigerator was leaking water on to the floor two times a day. I filed a claim through the website and it’s supposed to do a phone video consultation. So I did that and showed them the problem, then they sent somebody over. The person who came out was on time and perfectly nice. He looked at the refrigerator and was able to solve the problem. Apparently, there's a tray in the back of the freezer where water is supposed to go and it goes into a line, and the line had come unscrewed so he just rescrewed it.

I like American Home Shield. We've been in this house for five years that we've had it but before then, we used to be with them when we had a house in Memphis, Tennessee. We had a recent AC claim and while Fast Response was kind of busy, we weren't completely out of coolness and they got to us as fast as they could. My husband thought the AC wasn't cooling, but it's because we've had some really hot days here in Texas. The gentleman that came out said that he checked everything. He said the Freon was still good in it and everything checked out. It was just the hot temperatures. He suggested we get an attic dome thing. That might help some of the heat coming in from the attic part.
The only thing I dislike about AHS is the back and forth when they're trying to decide once the people come out and they say that something's wrong and then they have to submit paperwork back to AHS and wait. An issue with the bathroom faucet took quite a long time. We were having to share one bathroom due to waiting to get things done with the faucet in the bathtub. I like being able to just call or go online and pick what I need to get done. Then the next day, they'll schedule it and then come out the second day. That's a good process.

I like American Home Shield. Every time I do a claim online, it's pretty easy. The only problem is when I had an issue with the refrigerator, and they came out and it didn't really fix the issue. When I did a claim a month later, I had to pay my deductible again. It's $100 every time. I called to explain to them that it was the same issue, and they said they were going to refund my money, but they haven't. They also had to come out a third time for my refrigerator, and I just got another bill. If their online stuff had a way to be able to do a recall, you don’t have to pay the $100 upfront to get them to come out.
American Home Shield uses different providers and other than the providers they use sometimes, I haven't had any problems. It's not any of their fault for the provider they use too. Sears came out once, and after that, they had an independent guy come out, then Sears came out again. The last guy was pretty knowledgeable and really helpful. The ones before that was just like, “Oh, it was stuck.” They fix something then I gotta wait 24 hours to see if it works, but then, it never worked. I've procrastinated at following up on my end as well, but now, my refrigerator is working.

Without exception, the contractors have been very good, professional and friendly, and they do their jobs quickly and efficiently. When I requested service for the refrigerator, the technician came out very quickly. In fact, I was surprised how fast he got out to our house. He took a thorough look at the refrigerator and determined what part was needed, then followed it up by telling me that the part was unavailable. He couldn't get ahold of the part, and I was contacted by American Home Shield regarding a replacement refrigerator. We got a replacement, and I filed the paperwork for that a week ago. We opted to get a different refrigerator than the one that AHS suggested, and we're due a refund of $1,275 and some change. I'm currently waiting to hear about that.
Generally, American Home Shield is very good about getting people out to take a look at whatever issues we're having, and I'm happy about that. They have in the past been very timely in replacing or giving us reimbursement for appliances which had gone bad too. When communicating with agents over the telephone though, I've had some difficulty at times in getting my point across or letting them know what exactly I was calling for. It seems that for a number of AHS telephone agents, English is either a second or a third language.

The AC claim was resolved successfully so we were happy with that. It was for the coil in the air handler that was bad. It turned out that it was too old for them to find a replacement for it so we ended up getting a completely new air handler. They did a good job and explained what was going on and what they were doing. They made sure that by the time they left, we felt comfortable that the problem was solved. The issue that we had with the service was the length of time between when we called and when we got them to come out. They were booked up. From the beginning of the initial claim to resolution was almost a month. When you deal with air conditioning, that's not great. But I like that I have peace of mind having American Home Shield. Right now, I'm having a bad experience with American Home Shield. I had my air conditioner go out, so I called them and paid my deposit and they sent somebody out here. They looked at it and they named a whole lot of stuff that needed to be replaced and it came up to like $2,500. When I went to them and got them, their slogan was, "If we can't fix it, we'll replace it." They said they couldn't fix it, but they said, "Oh, we can give you $600 toward fixing it." So, foolish enough, I agreed. I took out a loan to get it replaced. I replaced it and they said the check will be here in 6 to 10 business days. That was three weeks ago. I called back and they said, "You need to send in a receipt saying that you got a new air condition." I sent that in on a Monday and they said it should be there by Friday. Friday came, and there was nothing. I called them yesterday. They told me that it takes 20 days to approve it.
When I filed the claim, they told me I had to pay my deductible. They asked me what the problem was and I told them what it was and I paid the deductible. They looked up a company and they said they were going to send me an email. If I needed to ask any questions to the company, they left me the number. Then, they sent me an email saying, "Okay, it's scheduled at a certain date. His name is Josh and he text you and let you know when he's on his way." When he got out here, he looked at the problem and took a minute, and then he said, "Okay, this is what's wrong with it. This is what's needed to be done. You're gonna have to replace this, you have to replace that, this needs to be done." I said, "Okay. How much is all that gonna cost?" He said, "It's gonna cost you about $2,500." So, I called American Home Shield and I told them what he told me.
The rep put me on hold, and then she said, "No, we can't cover up to that. But we can send you $600 to help for the cost." I said, "Help for the cost? Only reason that I got y'all is because y'all saying on TV, 'If we can't fix it, we'll replace it.'" We went back and forth. Then I said, "Okay, just go ahead and I'll agree to that. Go ahead and send me the check. Okay." My plan is $40 a month and $100 upfront to them every time I need something replaced. So, I'm not happy with them at all. I wanna cancel them. If I'm gonna continue to pay them monthly for something that I needed repair, I might as well just save the money myself and pay for it myself. I am so disappointed in them.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your ongoing concerns.

They come out to my house, and they don't fix it. I call back to American Home Shield, bring up the same problem, and Amazon comes back out. That shouldn't happen. I understand their limitations on certain contractors that you can hire and sent to the place, but I would rather not even get anything done than use the same substandard contractor. They knew it was leaking. They said they would be back to fix it, but they never did. That made me not want to deal with AHS anymore. I don't like the way they dealt with our plumbing issue. It was never resolved. I wasn't compensated for a new toilet. And I tell anyone who asked me about AHS that negative experience.

I'm very happy I took out the warranty plan. I have a side-by-side refrigerator and there was water leaking. It turned out that the L-shaped plastic pipe at the back of the unit wore out. The tech didn't have any in his truck so he had to order me a new piece. He even tried a couple of places that he normally does business with, and they didn't have the model number. He said, “You just won’t have ice or refrigerator water.” I said, “That’s fine. As long as my refrigerator and my freezer is working, I’m fine.” He had to come back, pull the refrigerator out, and fix what he needed to fix. He turned the water that is only for the refrigerator on. He wanted me to constantly run the water through the filter to clean out the tubings. I was very pleased.

American Home Shield has saved us a lot of money but has not been very good for us. We've had several issues with them that we're unhappy with. The service people that come out have been very polite and courteous. They do their jobs and we're happy with them. But every time we call American Home Shield, we're put on hold. We sit and wait for somebody to answer our call and it takes considerable time that we're waiting for someone to come back and take our call. We've had so many calls to American Home Shield in the last three months that it's hard to keep each one straight.
Recently, the stopper on the sink in the bathroom in the basement had to be fixed 'cause it broke. The contractor did fine with that. It's just that the stopper doesn't open wide enough for the water to run out quickly. It takes a long time for the water to run out of the sink after the sink has been stopped up. Even if the sink has not stopped up, it takes a while for the water to run out because there's not enough space there. They had said something about possibly getting a new stopper for the sink and we've not heard back at all from that.
As far as the washer and dryer goes, American Home Shield has been cost-effective. They're about to rebuild the whole inside of my washer and dryer. The repairman called ahead and did a video which helped him bring the right parts. But American Home Shield had Sears come out do the washer and dryer repair. They got here and checked what was wrong. They had to order parts. It takes about a week to get the parts delivered to the house. Then it takes two more weeks for them to come and make the repair. I need my washer and dryer and it takes too long to get the job completed.

My refrigerator wasn't cooling. The bottom half was cooling, but the top half was not cooling. I went to American Home Shield's website and turned in the claim. Their website is really easy to use. I've learned from using it a few times that it's easier if I have the serial number and the model information. If I have a brief idea or description of what my problem is, it's super easy.
After submitting a claim, I always get an email that says that a contractor is going to be assigned or that a contractor has been assigned. I generally get an email that says who it is. The contractor always calls me to set up an appointment and then they always make arrangements to call me when they're coming. I never had a bad experience with any of the contractors that I've used with American Home Shield. Another thing that I love about them is that it seems like their benefits get better each year. They're always offering something new. Like on their website, they've got now that they'll come out and help you put your TV on the wall if you need it or help you with your Wi-Fi if you need it. It seems like they're getting more and more user-friendly. I've had American Home Shield for years. I have recommended it to people. I’m almost considering buying it as a gift for people. It is the most amazing product. I can't say enough good things about it.

I called American Home Shield for the blower motor that was squealing and the evaporator coils that would freeze up. It took a day for the contractor to get back to me and a day for them to come out. They looked at it and the blower motor was not making noise at the time. They said the condenser unit and the condenser blower motor might need to be changed out. But everything was working, so they left. They came back again because the blower motor finally went out. They said it was the capacitor on the blower motor. Everything started to work a little bit, but it still iced up and quit blowing because the evaporator was frozen over. Sierra Vista Heating & Cooling came out and said the blower motor was bad. They didn't have that part, so they had to come out again. They did and changed the blower motor. The blower motor is working, but the condenser still ices up and stops blowing cold air. AHS gets right on the job every time I call and so far, I have had no problems with American Home Shield. When I do, they’ll know it because I’ll drop them.
I would recommend AHS all the way. I even gave them to my daughter and she uses them. A lot of people I know don’t own properties but I tell them to go with American Home Shield. Before I shop and buy anything, I always read the reviews and I haven’t seen anything bad so far. Some of the people tell me warranty companies are not good and I would say that it depends on what you buy. If you buy the low plan, you're not going to get everything covered. But if it’s the top-of-the-line, they're gonna make sure you get your top-of-the-line service. I made sure that I had the top-of-the-line. I want to make sure everything is covered because my home is 22 years old almost and it's been out of warranty for many years.

Our initial electrical issue was that the AC breaker was tripping. We had AHS transfer the services from our AC person to Sunbelt Electric because they thought I couldn't do anything with the electrical box. They came out and they replaced three breakers, and then they tested it to see if his replacing the breaker fixed it but it didn't because it was the actual AC unit. Their services were fabulous because he came out, replaced some stuff that he saw needed to be replaced, and he did everything that he could to try to figure it out. He determined that it was the AC that was actually doing it because everything else was off except for the AC and it kept tripping.
However, I've had really good people who have done stuff but those people weren't doing their job. They were supposed to be submitting stuff and I've talked to them, but then they didn't. Two days later, I was calling and calling and it was not done. There was a lot of miscommunication with their staff and not knowing what was going on. After I got Sunbelt Electric and they've already submitted their stuff saying that it had to go back to the AC people, AHS then re-sent it to Sunbelt for them to come out. I said, "Are you not looking at our stuff that they said that they've completed everything and it needs to go back to the AC people? Are you not reading whatever's on your computers? It shows that." That now put us back another day or so for them to change it, process it, send it back to the AC people, then for them to come out.

We had a couple issues. The biggest problem being that American Home Shield sent out a company that only one star online and had horrific reviews. We looked them up online and they went out of business. They were prosecuted for for tax evasion and the LLC was revoked. But they're still working for American Home Shield under that name that was revoked. We were scared to have them come out but we didn't have a choice. The thing is American Home Shield has the warranty on the unit. We can't just call the company that installed the air conditioning unit because now, every time there's a problem, we have to go through the home warranty.
We were lucky because in the end, the service company never came. In the course of a day, they rescheduled 12 times. We had a national heat warning that week. It was over 100 degrees in the house. We called multiple times and finally, American Home Shield all sent a different company out, which we were super relieved with. After a couple of years of battling our AC unit and putting band-aids on it, it got replaced which is great. But the guy didn't replace the fan because he wasn't authorized to do so. He just repaired it. It'll probably keep going out until the home warranty finally replaces the fan.
On the whole, American Home Shield vetting their vendors is the biggest issue. I have two other homes and I don't know if I want to carry American Home Shield with them because of that. The home warranty saved us a little bit of money in the long run because it helps us with the air conditioning unit. We pay them $100 every service thing a month for two years, until they finally replaced it. It’s better than not having a warranty. But at this point, we were actually discussing canceling the home warranty. We have a new AC unit and it will probably will last 10 years.

Recently, I had some work done on my house because a pipe burst. AHS sent somebody to assess the damage and it was just wear and tear so the insurance covered that. In the midst of that, there was a situation where some of the work was messed up because the AC was left on so it froze over because it was low on Freon and it was leaking from the ceiling. So, the techs put the pounds of Freon back in there and got it working again
AHS is like every other company out there. They only cover $10 on whatever the cost is for Freon and Freon is pretty expensive. If I'm paying them a monthly charge why, am I having to come out so much money for two pounds of Freon. There should be some form of contract so if a contractor is working under AHS, they have a set amount that American Home Shield is willing to cover and they can't go over the amount.

My wife and I had AHS when we had our place in Incline Village, Nevada and it seemed like at the time, more people were a lot more responsive and the customer service was a lot better. We bought the warranty again here in our place in Missoula, Montana and it seems that the quality of customer service and responsiveness has significantly gone down. It also seems like the people we speak to are outsourced and it's not always easy to be able to speak to somebody. We had a claim where the customer service reps were not really helpful in contacting the vendor that they were using. It felt like it was more on us to have to do those things and the follow-up. It just didn't seem like they were really knowledgeable about what we were talking about, so that was disappointing.
The cost of the warranty has gone up a lot more, too. That is always a concern from our end but we've not had anything not covered. Aside from that, we recently had a service from All Brands and they were fantastic. They were responsive and friendly. They provided explanations of what was going on, so I really appreciated the transparency.

Everybody's telling me that nothing's wrong or that I need to replace everything. I don't think I'm getting any value for the $600 that I spent on this insurance at all and having to pay a $75 fee every time they even come to look at something doesn't make sense to me.
The first contractor who came out here was awful. I tried to explain to him what was going on, where I thought the leak was coming from, and what was happening. He asked me everything about where the plumbing is and I told him where the cleanout is but he said it doesn't look like a cleanout. He said he couldn't do anything and that he was gonna have to send somebody back out.
I made another appointment and they never showed up. The guy promised that if I pick that date they'd be here at 8 o'clock. 9:30 rolled around, I called the company and they said the guy had an emergency. I told them I have other things I could have been doing instead of just sitting and waiting and the rep said, “Well, I think you'd better go do them then." Then, I got another guy to come out and he said that it wasn't what he thought it was. Now, the drains are going really slow. They said they shoved a camera in the drains and everything was fine but now I've got slow drains in the bathroom. I'm not happy with anybody at all and I'm reluctant to call them again.

They gave me a different time because they didn't have the time that American Home Shield had, and the lady made the statement that she wished they would stop doing that because they're giving customers one time, but they're not available at that time and they have to reschedule for a different time, which puts things further behind. Other than that, there was no problem. It took close to a week before they came out, and the guys were very professional. They were talkative and we carried on conversations.
ABM came out twice. One was for my washing machine that wouldn't power on, and the other was for my refrigerator that stopped cooling. With the refrigerator, they had to order that part that makes it cool, and it took them a little over a week to get the part and come back out. With the washing machine, they had to order the motherboard. It took them a little longer to get the part in, then I had to wait an additional five days for them to come out and fix it. When the guy came and put the part in, he tried to run the machine to make sure it was working. When he put the lid down and started the wash, the sensor that makes the lid lock would not lock. He had to order a second part, which is on the top of the machine where the lid locks on, and that was a week. That was not their fault, but it was still a bit of a wait and I spent five weeks having to go to the laundromat.

I was still paying my monthly premium to American Home Shield. My AC unit went out. The AC unit was 14 years now. It has served its purpose. They sent out a technician and he repaired it. But within 10 days of him fixing it, it went back out again.
When I called them back, they said, “You have to pay another service fee for him to come back out because it was past 30 days." I paid an additional service fee. He said, “What we did to it last time didn't work. We gotta do something different.” I said, “If what you did last time that I paid the service fee for didn't work, why am I still paying service fees?”
I called American Home Shield. Talked to them about upgrading the unit but they wanted me to pay 3,000 dollars. I said, “Why don't we just cancel the American Home Shield warranty?” They sent me a bill. “You owe us a prorated amount for your warranty because you canceled the warranty.” I owed them more money for a service they didn't complete. The co-pays are more than I would like, but it's okay because I've had to get a lot repaired in this new house I just bought. I also had a water heater fixed before that. It would be nice if I didn't have to kick in so much and coming up with 550 to fix my HVAC drained my savings, but it's still better than paying for the whole thousand.

American Home Shield sent somebody to fix the microwave. The person was supposed to fix the refrigerator, but he couldn’t do it. He suggested to install a new water valve. There's too much pressure in the refrigerator that’s why the ice maker is always frozen. He said he would make a recommendation. After a few days, I contacted American Home Shield. They said, “No, they haven’t received a recommendation.” I called the company that did the job, AT Appliances. They told me they already sent the recommendation a long time ago.
I called American Home Shield again. I said, “I just spoke to somebody. They already told me they already sent the recommendation. Why you didn’t send somebody to fix the refrigerator?” They said they were going to take care of that. After three more days, nothing. I faxed them the recommendation because I have the paperwork. The guy completed job. I called them and said, “I just faxed the recommendation to you. Please let me know when you’re going to send somebody to fix the refrigerator.” The rep said, “Yeah, we’ll take care of that.” But I’m still waiting. It started on June 26. It’s been three weeks. It's a very bad experience.

I haven't called American Home Shield since COVID till this last time with the dishwasher and the one before that for the plumber, and both were pleasant. When I put the burners on low on my stove, it would turn off. The tech said there were some accessories on those burners and I said it wasn’t like that. Then, he turned an accessory the other way and now, it works fine. The door of the dishwasher was hard to close and the tech said it was how it is. Then, I was surprised that 10 days later, they got the part. He came and said that he wanted to try to see if it works and it did. Also, when I open the dishwasher, it goes all the way down. I didn't tell him but he fixed it himself.
I had issues with my garage door in the past and the company that AHS brought wasn't competent. I had to pay money to get somebody else to open the door. But the last two claims with the dishwasher and the plumber were good so I would recommend AHS to a friend. I always call when I reach out to them and sometimes, the reps don’t understand. But they’re decent.

He came exactly when they said they would. It was a very good experience. American Home Shield covered what I needed for the most part so that's been good. But I have an issue with 100 bucks each time I have a claim. It can be a lot of money.

Horrible customer service and a complete lack of transparency! I have an AC issue that I have been trying to resolve for more than a month. The first assigned contractor did not contact me and I was unable to reach them over the course of two weeks. After complaining to AHS on 4 different occasions, a new contractor was finally assigned. The 2nd contractor was more responsive and after looking at my AC, determined that my evaporator coil needed to be replaced. This was the same diagnosis that I received from a local company that had visited my house before I remembered that I should have submitted the claim through AHS.
The evaporator coil was covered under the manufacturer warranty and both of the onsite contractors agreed that the home warranty should cover it. Of course, AHS determined that I would need to pay over $1000 in non-covered costs. The only explanation given, "Replace Evaporator Coil, Reason Not Covered - Normal wear & tear." I found the explanation odd because normal wear and tear is specifically listed as what is covered on the contract. I was then told to talk to contractor who gave me the cost information for 3 parts and the refrigerant. I understand the charge for refrigerant, but the parts should have been covered.
Oddly enough, the initial estimate I got not using AHS was less than the estimate I was given by my home warranty company. When asked for total estimate and a detailed explanation of what was going to be done, the contractor told me that they were only allowed to tell me non-covered costs due to an arrangement with AHS. When I asked for the details from AHS, they told me that I needed to talk to contractor. Aside from me wanting to know what specifically was being done to my house, the information is necessary to ensure future coverage from the manufacturer. Unfortunately, I don't know who to believe and I refuse to pay them anything until a detailed explanation of the work to be performed is offered.

I am very agree with most of the reviewers who have given one star to this company. I will give 0.5 star to this one. Many reasons: they just want to take money and will always run away from the problem. I am struggling with ac problem, and several times they sent technician to repair, every time I end up giving several hundred dollars for refrigerant cost, apart from their one time service fee. But they never addressed the problem. I end up paying approximately ~ 1000 dollars for this but none of technician solved the issue. This time once again I paid their one time service call fee and this company has given me a "quote" of 810 dollars for excess refrigerant cost with a reasoning not covered is "normal wear and tear". Who is responsible? Why not they solved the problem in first time? Why they have taken money from me without solving the problem? If they never addressed the problem, why they are asking money again.
How difficult to deal with such type of company, where you are paying several hundred dollars for the contract, service fee and top of that, they will never take responsibility to fix thing. This is one example, another one is also equally interesting. There was a problem in my furnace, they came and try to fix that and one of the technician made problem worst. A Technician concluded that parts of that furnace are not available and it is not repairable. In that situation, the warranty company needs to change the furnace. However, they asked me to pay 1800 USD. On the 8th of December, 2021, the technician replaced my furnace and I paid that amount to him. I monitored that furnace approximately a week or so in order to evaluate if that is working or not. It was not effective mainly because the capacity of this furnace is 56,000 BTU whereas the earlier furnace was 100,000 BTU.
I immediately sent a message to that technician as well as called warranty company regarding that issue. However, there was no action from their side. I tried to call them repeatedly but unfortunately, no response. It has been several months since I am fighting for this issue but guys no response. It is something like you want to repair your car, and warranty company will give a bicycle for replacement. So good luck to you, if you want to go for this company.

So far, whatever issues I've had, AHS has tried to work on it in a timely manner. Except the last time, when I had a refrigerator issue, I had to wait a while. I asked if I could find someone else to fix it and get reimbursed. But they said no, that it has to be on their contractor list. So, that was something I was a little bit disappointed. Because I asked if my food went bad, if they would at least reimburse me for the food. The rep said they couldn't. But besides those two issues, everything else is fine.
The contractor sent was good and professional. They got the job done and left the space clean when they were done. I like the coverage that I'm getting. And for the price that I'm paying, it's worth it.

AHS sent me a check and I went and purchased the washing machine myself.
Recently, the hot water heater went out. The bottom had corroded, and so that's why water was going everywhere. The tech replaced the whole water heater and made modifications. He got the job done quite fast. We paid for the modifications because AHS didn't pay for that part. But they paid for everything else. Our air wasn't working. The outside unit wasn't turning on. It wasn't blowing cold air at the power that it normally was. I submitted an online claim. It was easy. I received the name of the company. And the day they were supposed to show up, I got the name of the actual person that was coming out along with a picture emailed to me of the worker. He looked at the unit, came up with a solution, did it, and the air started working again. It was quick. The last time, he had to just redo some wiring. It had arced out and one of the wires burned up. He cut the wire, put the new connector on and it was fine. It's hot outside and the unit is keeping it between 72 and 74 in the house.
I've worked with a couple of people and referred them to American Home Shield who ended up getting coverage through them. But with my most recent experience in the past seven months, I wouldn't refer them to anyone. The air conditioning broke three times this year. I'm trying to get it replaced, but American Home Shield wouldn't do it. Also, the fine print of one of the services we had done, they had to refill our coolant and air conditioning. It says that it's under AHS coverage, but in turn, ours was not for whatever reason.
They covered the parts, but they didn't cover any of the coolant that would actually run the air conditioning. Even on their website, it says the coolant is covered. You might have to pay $10 per pound, which would have come out to 120 bucks for us. But instead, we got hit with a full bill. For whatever reason, they came up with fine print saying that we had to pay for it, and it was a hassle. So even with our coverage and having AHS, we still had to pay $1,700 out of pocket to get our air conditioning fixed. And the coolant that they had to put in didn't exist anymore. So, they had to put a different, extremely expensive coolant in. We needed air. It was hot. We had no choice but to pay it.

The guy was up there for like five minutes and he said, "Oh, it's no good. It's got another leak." He said it was in another spot. When they went up there, there was a bunch of loose stuff that they left in the back of the unit. So, another company came out and he went up there and looked again and said, "Oh, yeah. Whatever it is, it's no good.” He turned on the air and he said that it was still leaking and it doesn't make sense to load it if it’s just gonna keep leaking the air out.

The service is difficult sometimes. Communication can be improved and if I call about a claim, it takes them a few days before they get back in contact with me. Like with my air conditioner, I had to keep calling back and they said, Well, we can't find anybody.” I said, “If I find somebody, what do I need to do?” They then said, “Well, that's not on the policy.” The contractor was quick but all the tech did was bypass something and run a jumper wire. He didn't put any new parts. So the problem was never fixed.
AHS should care about their clients. They really showed no sympathy when I told them I got my daughter out here and it was hot out here. It made me mad. It was like there was no concern about that.

American Home Shield has been very good to get things fixed, and usually in a short time period. Our problem is at Samsung, which is an absolute joke. Unfortunately, we've had their refrigerator for 13 years, and it has been bad during those years. And Sears wouldn't take it back. So, we're waiting on the third motherboard, which is what runs the refrigerator to be done, because Samsung couldn't figure out how to rebuild it. So, we've got a nice company that has been dealing with this refrigerator with us and they have been very good. But the tech is frustrated as he could be. He couldn't do anything but send it to Samsung.
It has been a while. We’ve been back and forth with getting the parts. And when the contractor brought the first one, that didn't work. Thank God the tech didn't throw away the old part. He brought it back and put it back into the system. And they brought out another part. I waited until Monday, but it didn’t work either. We knew once he opened it up and looked into it, it wouldn't work. So, he sent that back. We haven't heard anything from him. But Samsung wouldn't do anything to expedite getting the stuff to him.
Other than that, I would recommend AHS to anybody who has an older house. It's a lot better way to go. You got somebody that you can recognize the name. And you can also have somebody you call for repairs that is honest and trustworthy. And that's the biggest thing, especially for older people, so you worry a bit more about what you're getting into. It's a good product to have. It’s a little costly, but in the long run, if you've got something that breaks down, you can get some answers within 48 hours.

But I never got the check. It's been over a year now and I still haven't been reimbursed. If that doesn't get solved, there are a hundred warranty companies out there and I'll just find a different one. American Home Shield should send my check and then I’ll be happy and I’ll renew with them. The warranty automatically renews and if I caught it ahead of time, I would have canceled and gone with another company.

I've had AHS for over 20 years. I've had them with multiple houses at a time. I'm just really thinking hard if I'm going to even renew in a couple of months. They hardly cover anything anymore. It's like everything they have fixed, it's excluded. Then I saw they just came out with a new line of coverages. I haven't read through it yet. But it's less than before. When you call, you can't understand who you're talking to. It’s a conversation that should take 10 but sometimes takes 30 because I'm asking people to say it again. They don't listen to anything outside of what they're saying. No matter what you say, what your situation is, they keep saying the same thing over and over because that's what's in their book or on their computer screen. They do not know how to deal with customers outside of the basic question.
I've used them multiple times. There was one thing they covered. Everything else, I've used either their contractor and gone ahead and just to get it done or I sent away that person, wasted my $75 payment and I've called somebody on my own. Because if I'm going to pay for it myself, I'm going to use somebody I know a lot of times. The only reason I called AHS was to get it done cheaper. But they're not going to cover it. If they can improve, I wouldn't even hesitate in keeping them. But as of right now, they suck. They're awful to deal with. The only thing that's handy is you can book a service request on their website.
They assigned me somebody last time and the person came out for a water heater. I was supposed to make a decision on whether to upgrade to a bigger tank or keep it smaller. But all of a sudden, I got a text and it said that the water heater was on its way. I had decided to do an upgrade. I could not get ahold of this company. I tried for five days, kept going to their voicemail. Called AHS and let them know. Kept reading the same thing.
Then they said, "Let me try to get ahold of them." I sat on hold for 15 minutes with AHS, because you don't want to hang up on them and you got to wait on hold for another half an hour to an hour to get to a human. He came back and said, "I can't get ahold of them. It just goes to a voicemail." I said, "Oh, surprise." He said, "I suggest you just keep calling them. If you don't get ahold of them for 48 more hours, then I can file a complaint and we can try to get you to reassign somebody else." At that point, I said, "Give me the cash in lieu offer. I'll put it towards somebody that I know I can call and will show up." That company also never called to touch base and say, "Let's reschedule to have the water heater put in."

Their submission process is fine 'cause you can do it however you want, if you want to do it online or if you want to make a phone call. However, COVID was a struggle if you needed them and you needed parts. But that's not their fault. The most recent use of them was at my new property with the air conditioning. I realized that everybody was super busy. But my mom was in that house, 85 years old and over a 100-degree temperature. The reaction time wasn't fast enough for me. She had to stay at my house. These contractors in our area need to leave time available for emergency calls. But that, again, is not American Home Shield. It's the contractors that they're dealing with. So far, I'm pretty satisfied with American Home Shield's service. When things break down, I don't have to go out and get in debt or purchase other products myself. Buckley came out today to install the Whirlpool electric stovetop. The owner and another guy that worked with him came out. I told my husband to go and meet them. Everything was measured out, but they couldn't fit it in the hole. It was an inch off. The man from Buckley called and told me that the hole was too small for the electric top to fit in. He said, "There's a man here, and the man said that he could enlarge the hole." So, I said, “Well, that’s my husband. Let me talk to him.” I called my husband and I told him, "I just talked from the guy at Buckley’s. He's inside the house and he said that the hole is too small. Can you enlarge it?” He said, “Yes, I can.”
I was under the impression that once my husband enlarged the hole, Buckley was gonna install the electric stove. An hour passed. I hadn't heard anything so I called my husband and asked if the stove was in. He said they left after they talked to me on the phone. He said they made sure that the electrical part was done, but they didn’t stay to put the stove in. My husband was upset about it, too.

The guy asked a bit about what the problem was and showed me what he did. For the sink, he undid one of the pipes, cleaned that out and used a snake, then for the shower, he just unscrewed the plate guard, flushed some hot water and used a plumber thing to try to get rid of stuff. I've had the contractor Rush’s Repair Service at the house twice now. Their tech was very professional and helpful. I also had another contractor that specializes in appliances. Their tech was really good too. The contractor that came out recently for my microwave was excellent and I told him that if I had any more issues or breakage that pertain to the appliances, I would definitely ask AHS to assign him if possible.
The thing however was for the microwave that we just had done, it was almost a week before we could get someone out. Someone said, “We need to cancel this contractor because we can't get in touch with him. And we’ll reassign you to somebody else.” They reassigned me to Lowe's. I contact Lowe’s and they said, “I'm not sure why AHS keep telling customers to call us for an appointment. They're supposed to do that.” The customer now has to contact AHS back. The lady then said they were gonna assign me to somebody else. I have two kids and it makes a big difference when you don't have a microwave. Last time we got it fixed, I cooked almost every day throughout the week. A microwave comes in handy for little things where I was using the skillet for something very simple. That was very frustrating and I even threatened to leave AHS.
I've not been quite pleased 100% with AHS specifically. We had a technician to come out to the house on Friday and I had paid the $75. He did no work. He was going on vacation and he would be back on a set date. But he didn't show up on that set date and instead came back the day after. In that timeframe, we had extreme damage. Over the course of a few days, my property manager and I were calling the technician and he wasn't answering. I finally got in touch with him and he had me on speaker because I was asking him questions and his rude wife or girlfriend was answering the questions. I just stopped dealing with them and was dealing with AHS. But AHS told me there was nothing that they could do regarding the damage. I basically had to go after this contractor.
I was told that was written in the contract. But that was not the first time that that has happened where a contractor came to the house, got paid, acknowledged the problem, and didn't come out when they said that they were coming back. That created a more expensive problem for me. The fact is I'm paying AHS every single month to know that they can send people out. If anything falls short, then AHS is no longer now responsible. I am basically so low trying to figure this out. That has been quite disappointing. The reps told me different ones that had gone up cases to do a dispute board. I called and was told, “There's no dispute. You have to handle that on your own.”
We're a military family and we relocated after a while from our home in Sumter, South Carolina. We hired a property manager who's looking at one property while we were overseas. That's why we got AHS. It's to make sure that we had something in place while we're out of the country. We're now back in South Carolina but we're stationed in Charleston. I contacted AHS and I was told, “If you bring your new home to AHS, so you have two homes insured with us, you'll get a better discount." They asked for a document that show that we were military. The veteran discount was totally not true. I called and asked where I should send the document and no one knew what I was talking about. Also, we didn't get a discount based on combining both homes.

I've not had a good experience with American Home Shield. I have the highest plan and at the point I make a request for someone to check my appliance, it creates a situation where I find myself working for American Home Shield. I have to call them three times every day for at least a week before I can get service. It's ridiculous. Also, they only use certain contractors and the ones they use are horrible. The three that have come for air conditioning were horrible. I let Home Shield know that I called to try to schedule what day they could come out but the mailbox was full on the answering machine and they don't call back. It's just a waiting game. American Home Shield can't ahold of them.
It's in the middle of summer and I'm dealing with AHS's contractors. AHS is telling me I need to call them. Then, when the contractor comes out, they do half a job of diagnosing my thing and whatever they put on the paper is golden even though the tech didn't do half the things he said. With the air conditioner, the immediate go-to of the contractor is to put refrigerant in the system. They don't care what's going on. The only reason they do that is because I have the platinum plan and refrigerant is unlimited.
They charge American Home Shield for that and then from there it's, "You should be good and running. It should be catching up to thermostat." That doesn't happen and I have to call AHS again to get them to come back out. By then, you've already left a bad review with American Home Shield because you're sitting here in 90-degree weather with no air conditioner for a week or two until they can come back out and squeeze you in their schedule. I even had a contractor tell me he doesn't work for American Home Shield and they don't pay him a lot of money. So, his other customers take priority over AHS.
A tech came back a second time and that's when he told the people at American Home Shield that my warranty doesn't cover whatever is wrong with my system. And I'm saying to him, I'm like, "That's not your judgment call. You don't work for American Home Shield. Your job is to diagnose it, and then fix it or report to American Home Shield what you found." I left a bad review for him and to get back at me, he told AHS my issue is pre-existing and there's nothing they can do. AHS took that and ran with it.
I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused. My name is Stacy and I will contact you about your ongoing concerns.

I love American Home Shield’s service. Anytime I have an issue, somebody is usually there the next day. I had an issue with my air conditioner over the weekend, and somebody came. He said it was the coils that were broken and it was going to be a certain amount of money. He said, “They should cover it.” Afterward, I got a bill that I have to pay $2,900 for some other stuff. They wouldn't tell me what it was for. I called American Home Shield, and they were covering the coil and the installation cost. I don't know what this other $2,900 was for. So, I called up the person and said, “I don’t want you to do it. I’m gonna get my own repair person to do it.”
Right now, I think AHS is gonna give me a cashout for the part and the installation so I can pay my regular air conditioner guy. I also had a little bit of an issue with my dishwasher. The techs had to come out six times, but ultimately, the last person fixed it. So, things like that happened, but that wasn’t anybody's fault. American Home Shield was paying for it.

We had some toilets that were leaking in our brand-new house. The gentleman came out, looked at the toilet, and said there was nothing wrong with it. It sounded like he was being professional and knew what he was talking about. He took me underneath in the basement to show me that there was no water leaking there. But a few days later, there was still a little bit of water leaking in the toilet. So I decided to call a different plumber and he informed us that all three toilets in the house were the original toilets. So they were 15 years old and all the seals were cracking and that it was going to become a big problem. So he suggested that we replace them and we did.

I put in a claim with American Home Shield stated that the AC was currently not coming on when the thermostat was calling for cool. There was a day turnaround before they were able to get out there, which was absolutely amazing. They were able to assess it and have the new parts ordered and installed within four days of the original claim.
I requested that contractor who was going to be showing up at the house either contact myself or my property management company to make sure that there would be appropriate representatives there in case there was anything that they needed to access and they did just that. They put the note in the claim. The specific mechanic that was going out there to look at it gave me a phone call with 10 minutes of leeway time that was more than enough time for me to call the management company and have somebody meet him there.

American Home Shield’s service is good but sometimes, I have difficulties with the foreign language people when I call in to report a claim. Also, the providers could have a faster response time. We’ve had some experiences as of late where the washing machine went out and I couldn’t get the repair people and the technicians to come out and get the parts and pieces repaired before the relatives showed up. So, I had to cancel that. I went down to Lowe's and bought a top loader washing machine, 733 bucks. My relatives from Norway were there for nine days and I couldn't have them have to go to the laundromat every day so, I came out on the short end of the stick on that. Another time, the drum rotor in the back had rotted out and it took quite a while to get the parts and pieces to come out but AHS did it. And everything works. I’m happy with them so far.

When American Home Shield gave me a call, they said the vendor said the pipes were frozen during the winter and that was what caused the issue. But I beg to differ because when we purchased the home last August, we were able to crack the pipe open during the wintertime. The claim wasn't approved and I was told we would have to pay out of pocket ourselves if we were interested in them repairing it. I asked for the rep to email me the information on how to contact the vendor, but she never did. Other than that, the response has been awesome and the vendors have been wonderful.

When the tech came, I thought it was gonna have to be replaced because it wouldn't work. He said that it was just because there was something stuck in it and that he got it unstuck and that the disposal worked.
The reps are always very nice. They tell you who the contractor is and they give me a phone number if I need to get in touch with them. The contractor called me and told me that they would be there at a certain time. It all went very smoothly. AHS has always done a good job.

American Home Shield had a recommendation for spring tune-ups on the air conditioners and essentially said, "Hey, no cost to you. Blah, blah, blah." So, I took them up on it. Air conditioner was running fine. The contractor came out. He said it was fine and walked away. My wife came home about three hours later. The house was about 81 degrees. I called up the person himself, and he said, "Hey, all I know is when I walked away, it was done. It was working." I called the home office of that contractor and said, "Hey, something's not right here." They said, "Well, you have to put a job req in for us to come back out." I was like, "Well, you guys never finished the job. It's broken now."
I put in a job requirement through American Home Shield, and they gave me a different contractor who came out the next day. He said, "My God. Whoever worked on this thing killed it." I was like, "What do you mean?" He was like, "Well, somehow they broke the evaporation board. And when they washed it all out, the inside and everything, washed it all out, they fried the whole system. Because that board is supposed to be underneath and it's not supposed to get wet, but they wet the whole board. And in addition, they broke your hose with the Freon in it and you have no Freon inside." I was like, "Oh, my God. Okay. So that's what that oil is."
I got an email last Monday that said that, "The parts are in. Call your contractor to set up the appointment." I did. They were like, "Great. Let's do Friday." I said, "Fantastic. I'll be back from work." They said between 1:00 and 4:00. I had missed a call from them, but I tried to call back multiple times, but they were super busy. By about 4:30, I called up and they said, "Hey, Mr. **, your stuff never showed up." I was like, "Well, we got the email to set this thing up and everything had been delivered." I called up American Home Shield and they were like, "Well, there's nothing we can do. It was supposed to be delivered on Thursday." I was like, "This is ridiculous. I'm the middleman in between trying to figure out how to get AC."

worked with me and got it all taken care of for me. If I had an issue with something, they helped resolve it. I've had a slab leak that they helped out on. When I first moved to my house, I had a double oven electrical range and one of my eyes kept burning up and catching on fire. They cashed out it so I ended up converting my next range to gas. They fixed my washer and dryer, and my dishwasher. Even a plumbing problem.
When I first got my house, I used to use a certain kind of tissue. The young lady said, "I'm not trying to be funny about anything, but the tissue you're using, it's causing your pipes to clog up. And they don't flush very well." The man in the backyard behind me has a big old tree and it bust my line in the ground. The home warranty company couldn't fix it because it's not on my foundation. But they gave me the advice to change the toilet tissue. So, I did.
AHS first called to send another company out that came out. The young man told me that everything dealing with my hot water tank had to be replaced. He started naming off all this stuff that needed to be taken care of. So I asked, "If I'm not mistaken, all this stuff has been taken care of. Why do I have to replace it again?" "The laws have changed so we need to replace it." He was there less than two minutes and left. So, I called the home warranty back and said, "I need a second opinion because this young man just told me all the stuff need to be replaced." I have a friend that's a plumber. He came by and looked at it. He said, "No. This stuff don't need to be replaced. Everything is fine." So, AHS sent Legacy 4 out. And the man came out. He looked at everything and said, "We can get this taken care of. You might be out of pocket a bit, but we don't know yet until we talk to the home warranty company."
Once they did, they called me back and said, "Okay. This is what it's gonna cost you. When do you want to get this set up and get it scheduled?" I got it taken care of within a week. A bit after a week and three days, they had it all taken care of. Because I paid my service fee on the first guy. I told them, "I want a second opinion, but I'm not paying for it because it's not fair, talking about replacing everything, talking about $1,300, $1,500 replacing my hot water tank when I got everything done." They said, "Well, don't worry about the service fee. We're gonna send somebody else out and let them tell us the difference." They did and they took care of it. It took them an hour and 15 minutes to put it all in. And I didn't have to pay the service fee.

American Home Shield has been very beneficial the last few months. It is well worth the money. We're in a house that is 15 years old and different things are starting to go out. Recently, our icemaker wasn't making ice. A contractor came out and put in what they said was a new icemaker. It didn't work so they came back. When I called they were kind ‘cause they said that because it was over 30 days, it had to be a new service call, but the guy just said never mind ‘cause it was only two or three days after the 30 days. That same company came back, put in what they said was another new icemaker. It still didn't make ice. We called them and told them it wasn't. We never heard from them. But American Home Shield went ahead and got a different company to come out. They took care of it. They said it was not a new icemaker. It was refurbished. But the guy got it to working so we're all good to go again.
We also just had to have our garage door spring replaced. One broke. That was where I was a little disappointed. When the company came out to fix it, the repairman said the other spring wasn't broke. It was working. But he said it was extremely weak and it would probably break then. The warranty didn't cover that. We had to pay for that one out of pocket.

My air conditioner stopped cooling in my home. The unit up in the attic kicked on, then a fan blew hot air and the outdoor unit didn't turn on. I submitted a claim on my computer, and when I put in the request, it just said which appliance, or what was the problem in the home. It was easy to figure out, and I just had to have my contract number. The AC company then called and made an appointment. They were very professional and good. They came in, asked what the problem was, went out, figured things out in five minutes, put a new capacitor in, and it worked. The new capacitor makes my unit turn on and put cool air out.
It took three days for someone to come out, but it was over a weekend, so American Home Shield met their service-level agreement of two business days. I hated that it took that long, but it’s the summer and when air conditioning units break, they usually came right out. Still, American Home Shield gets the job done. It's nice, and they stand by their work and make sure things get fixed. I don't have to worry about getting screwed by an appliance repair person. Because I don't know who to trust. Also, American Home Shield is expensive, but how much you spend per month balances out with the repairs, making it worthwhile over time. One year, there may be very little repairs then another year, maybe they have to come out many times.

The first claim that I had was for my water heater, which the contractor fixed. They did a great job. But I'm still having problems with the claim for my air conditioner. They're waiting on a part and they said my ETA is supposed to be within the 28th. So I've been either staying at a friend's, renting, staying at my boyfriend's, or staying at my parents'. When I call the contractor, it goes to a voicemail that says, "It's not set up. You have to do like an SMS message." So I would attach my phone number hoping that they would call but they wouldn't.
The contractor said they were going to come out one day. I had somebody go out there and wait at my house for them that morning. But they never did. They never called me to say, "Hey, things changed. We couldn't make it." I tried calling about four times that day but never got an answer or reply. I tried multiple times the next three days and nothing. They told me that my whole system needed to be replaced because the parts that American Home Shield approved me for were outside stuff and then with the coil for inside, they're not going to be compatible. So they want to call the American Home Shield. I don't know what's going to happen with my AC. I'm hoping the part that they did can fix it because I can't rent any more rooms. I'm financially done. With what I would have rented this room for, I could have just got a plumber to go out there and either repair it or replace it myself.

I've been with American Home Shield quite a while and they're fair. Sometimes you gotta nudge them to be fair, and whenever they have to replace an appliance, they do it, but they try and replace it with quite a bit less. If you stand your ground, you'll get a replacement. The only time I ever had a problem with them, my mother died and I had an oven that went out and I didn't keep up with it. It went a little longer than it was supposed to. Now, they say I gotta pay my service charge again.
American Home Shield isn't perfect, but they're pretty good and I'm happy with them. Having it smooths out my bills. At least I know what I'm going to pay this year. Recently, their repair people put a new housing on my pool pump and they needed parts for that. They can't replace the whole pump with another pump, but you can get together and fix the one you have. I thought I was looking at a replacement pump for 1,700 bucks, but it wasn't the motor. Now, my pump runs perfect. I had another pump sitting there that wasn't quite running right and they fixed that too and didn't charge me for it.

The people that American Home Shield send out are knowledgeable. The last thing I used them for was my dryer. It was the motor and the tech had one right on the truck, so he could fix it right then. Nowadays, sometimes parts are not available or back ordered, but it was nice that they were able to have that. But when a contractor tried to fix my air conditioning, they put the wrong thing in and it only worked for a little while, and it went out again. That was three trips and I finally told the guy that it wasn't good for me and it's certainly not good for their company because they already got paid and they're not getting any more money and they're sending people out. So hopefully, they remedied that situation.
Every time I called American Home Shield, it was satisfactory and I like that you just pay one fee and you get things fixed. But it usually takes 7 to 14 days to get somebody there. It was an inconvenience, especially when my air conditioner wasn't working. Fortunately, we had one of those portable air conditioners and we used that while waiting for the tech to come to the house. If you're at home and something happens and you look online and call a local repair guy, usually they can get out there within a day or so. The last time, it was four days, which was the least amount of time I've ever had to wait. If it's just small things, I don't mind. Also, when AHS couldn't fix something, they just replaced it and I had no problems in that category at all. I recommend AHS to my friends. It's easy to set things up online for someone to come. It’s just the time frame that you have to wait. But everything else works very well.

I had a problem with the air conditioner and the thermostat shut off completely. It happened on a Friday and when I called AHS, I was told me I'd get a call within 24 to 48 hours. And they put up with me because I called several times since I was concerned about the weekend and I had people arriving on Monday. But they assured me that somebody would call me. On Monday morning, I did get a call and the techs said they'd be right out that afternoon. They were right on time and they took care of it. It turned out that the problem had to do with the condensation lines. The people I spoke to were just great and they followed through. I would recommend them highly.
Other than that, the 24 to 48 hours is a problem. The people I talked to were very congenial when they told me that but it would be helpful if there was an emergency number where somebody would call and satisfy the people to say that they can't be out until Monday. I've also submitted a claim about three years ago where I didn't have a plumber out here that was on their list. So, I had to bring a local man in. He corrected it and only charged me $57. I submitted a claim for that and I never got it. But I’ve been very pleased with AHS for the most part and I've not been disappointed with them. I'm in a rural area so it makes it tough and sometimes I don't get the service as fast as I would like or the right person coming out. But it does happen and I understand that. I have a Jandy filtration system and the bypass valve was leaking and with the water concern here in California, I figured I need to get it fixed. I know American Home Shield covers that. So, I sent them an email. I did the claim online. The website was fine and I had a very quick response. The tech was friendly enough. He obviously wanted to try to correct the situation as quickly as possible and move on to his next client. Instead of either rebuilding the valve or replacing the valve, he put a check valve on the drain tube to keep it from dripping. I was like, "Isn't there a rebuild kit for this valve?" He said, "No. Because the only thing you can do is replace it and I don't have any of those and it'd take a month or two to get one. But I can do this." I said, "That's fine. Let's just do something so we don't have it dripping water all day."
I would have pushed the contractor a little bit harder because he just wanted to come in, do his thing, and leave. The part he put on there is probably a $10 part. He was there for about 40 minutes tops. If he's gonna charge like $500, it's a rip-off, but he did reseal another little leak from my chlorinator. As far as American Home Shield, they were very quick to respond and to assign somebody, so I'm very happy with that. I was very satisfied with the expedience of the experience. The issue was handled very quickly.

American Home Shield is very good as is the turnaround time of responding when I try to submit a claim and how fast they get to me. Submitting a claim was a good experience. They were saying I'm gonna need a new unit but I haven't gotten one yet because I'm out of work. It's a little steep for me right now.

American Home Shield sent A-1 for my garbage disposal. I did the online request and I heard from A-1 within the same day. They came out fairly quickly and fixed it on site. They had the new garbage disposal with them.

The AC was not cooling well and the first person who visited just looked at the AC, didn't do much, and left. The next day, the cooling was not great in the same way. Then after that, the second person who visited made sure things were all done appropriately. Having AHS gives me a bit of peace of mind but I want them to improve their response time. Each time, specifically, in summer, if you're raising a request for cooling, waiting for three or four days at times becomes difficult if the AC is not working at all. So, it would be nice if they can have more contractors during the summer helping them out with the HVAC. That way, they have enough people to service because most of them are backlogged.

The service has been fine. Although it's annoying to pay 80 bucks before anybody walks in the door. But other than that, so far, the people they have sent have been okay. They’ve done what the contract says they’ll do. The tech that came out to do the appliance repair was very good. He was meticulous and I liked him. If I needed somebody on the side to do something that American Home Shield would not cover, I would call him.

Updated on 08/03/2022: It has been 4 months since we placed our service request to get our AC fix. Several 100 degree day later our AC still not fix. Have not gotten any follow up calls from American Home Shield neither. Not worth it.
Original Review: Never use this company! We have been having problems with our AC unit. Had American Home Shield warranty assign us climate control heating and air, Llc out of Reading PA to work with. First time the guy came out he had an assistant. They diagnosed the unit for a total of 15 minutes, came in and told me that we needed to replace the unit. Our warranty company agreed and asked climate control heating and air, Llc to proceed. Approximately 3 weeks later the same guy called me and said he had the wrong parts and had to re-order. It's going on 3 months now and This man never called or emailed me at all. American Home Shield is also slow in resolving the issue and much slower assigning another tech to replace the unit.!! I will NEVER be using this two companies again, and I hope they get shut down because clearly this person isn't able to preform their job correctly. Company don't even deserved one star!
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience. I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you. My name is Robert and I would like to speak to you more about your claim.

For the last 14 days I have been without AC because of AHS incompetence. They did not order the part when it was requested, once it was finally ordered I asked to have it expedited and was assured they would send next day--this was a lie, so the part was delivered to the AC company on Monday the 18th (originally reported problem on July 7th) and then you sent the wrong part.
In talking to customer service after the wrong part was delivered, I was offered a refund on my service call of $75, this is insulting considering the fans and portable AC's I have had to buy to make my house even somewhat livable--it is a steady 85 degrees in my house on a good day. I mentioned to the manager I was talking to that I have been paying them for three years for this warranty and have not come close to getting my money back. I also asked for help paying for the cost of the freon needed to fix the AC. I said that it was a good faith gesture for a long-term client. Only to be told they can't do that. I ended the call indicated I have already reported them to the Better Business Bureau and will be posting a public message on social media to enlighten all those who read to beware.

You pay a fee every month to AHS. Then when you try to get things done in your house, they don’t cover this and that. The fees also go up without our knowledge. They don’t tell us. When you look around the fees, it has increased. It’s not a good experience with them because they give you problems. They’re very difficult when you try to get things done. They don't want to pay for the things that you pay out for. They don’t want to acknowledge certain things that you need to be repaired. Or if something breaks down, they always give you a runaround before they even try to pay it or if they pay it at all, they’ll tell you they don’t cover it.

We had American Home Shield for 20 years in our old house. We just moved into this new house and got a new policy. We continued with the home warranty because we've got our money's worth out of it. We had a couple of appliances worked on. The washing machine had a torn liner and the door was leaking. As for the dishwasher, the hinges were broken. The repair was slow and it took over a month to get it done because of the waiting for parts to come in. Other than that, I would recommend American Home Shield.

I had a claim for air conditioning and that was fixed. I've had several previous repairs and it cost me $100 every time I use American Home Shield. They could reduce their fee. It also takes too long to get someone. They need more contractors.

A plumber came to repair a spigot that was leaking. He diagnosed it and fixed it very quickly. As soon as he got approval from American Home Shield, he was on his way. He was not at all disruptive. I enrolled with American Home Shield in October of 2021 and I've been very satisfied since. I've put in other claims which I canceled because it seemed that the problem resolved itself. But for the plumbing piece, I've had two instances where I've had people come out. The first was in March or April when I had someone come and repair my boiler. That was a very good service too.
I had separate warranties on appliances and I always went with Sears. They were always very good with servicing any appliance that I had. I had a dishwasher and they came out and fixed it eight times. Finally, I ended up with a new one. It's advantageous to the homeowner to have something that they can fall back on. You don't wanna be caught in the dead of winter with a boiler that's not working. You don't wanna be caught in a situation where your water heater goes and you have to fix it today. Having this home warranty available is very helpful.
