The interior of the system seemed to be working fine but it was loud and rattling noise on the unit outside on the compressor. I put a claim online and the thing I don't like about the website is you're kind of limited on the reason for the claim because of the dropdown menu, and you have to pick from a certain list of things. AHS could allow you to be able to customize the reason more than just picking from a list though there's a box where you can add comments. But as far as using the website to file a claim, I kind of like it because you don't have to call and wait on hold.
I've had this warranty service before and I cancelled it because I wasn't happy with the customer service or the fact that when I filed a claim, they couldn't find me a contractor. They told me to call a repair company and they'd reimburse me but I didn't have time for all of that. I was paying them to send someone out but I had to do all the dirty work myself.
Now that I'm in a different state, I thought to see how it works here. Maybe the service has improved and this time, AHS has been pretty responsive. It could probably be helpful to add information about a contractor like customer ratings. But I'm assuming that AHS does their due diligence and that the contractors are good if AHS is using them. I've had a plumber, an electrician, and an HVAC contractor and they were all good. One thing that I'm not really happy with though is the $100 deductible. That's a lot especially when a contractor comes out and realizes it's really not that big of a deal of a problem. I'm already spending close to $600 a year for this service. When I had this the very first time, the deductible was $45 but it keeps going up.

The AC furnace unit would not cool the house. When it was running, it smelled like wires burning, so I was afraid. I shut the unit off and bought two air conditioners for the windows and then remembered that I have a home warranty. American Home Shield sent a tech out. He was rude to the girl on the phone that he was talking with. He was also bashing American Home Shield to my daughter saying that they never agree to fix anything. When they sent him back, he did an excellent job cleaning the furnace. He was not the neatest contractor in the world. But the unit is working perfectly now.

I had a couple of claims with American Home Shield and most have been for a fridge that was leaking. They assigned someone very promptly. The company assigned sometimes comes immediately and sometimes it can take up to a week for them to come because they're so booked. I also did a claim when our heater was not working and someone came out to check on that. He was very prompt, arrived on time, and was very courteous. He did a little extra check of our air conditioner too while he was out there. That was very kind of him. American Home Shield has been good so far and I'm completely satisfied.

I was having trouble with my garbage disposal. I had done the Allen wrench thing before to clear it up, but it still wasn't working. I didn't realize I had to do a reset. The repair company came over here to show me the reset button, then it worked fine.

The original claim was on the phone, and then I called in last Friday as soon as I got back. It was 97 degrees, and it was 92 inside my home. I turned on the AC and it did the exact same thing. So I called immediately and filed a new claim. American Home Shield said they would get back with the tech and have him come back out. The tech only did the work on my air conditioner less than a month ago. AHS was just going to call him back out because he has been in my house before. He has always done a good job. But it’s the exact same thing I told him about. He was there when I wasn’t. He called me when he was done with the work, and said all he had to do was change a battery in my room. I said, “You know, I don’t think that’s it. Because I could still turn the AC unit on with the remote, because it’s a wall unit. But you’ll have to stay there for at least a half hour because that's what happens, then it turns off and it won't come back on.”
He handled claims before there and he knows my building. He thought I didn't know what I was talking about when I said he has to let it run for a half hour. AHS assigned it to another contractor that called me yesterday and said they don't go to my building. I don’t know why they sent it to a new contractor because I’m not paying another deductible of $125. I don’t care who comes, because this is the third time this has happened now. There’s obviously something wrong, and it’s not a leak anymore. Almost right after I moved in, they found the leak and said they fixed it. It’s Freon, so it should last a long time. There’s another problem with the unit. But the contractors do good on the regular and are very professional. I recommended AHS a couple of times to people, including my family.

The plugs didn't work in the guest room. Then downstairs, in the living room, the electrical outlets were not working. When we were plugging something, it wouldn't work. The last company had come out was probably the third company, and they seemed to have fixed the problem. The other ones put band-aids on it, but we didn't know they had put band-aids on it. But this last company realized what the issue was, and had come in and fixed it. They had to come out twice. The tech did his work and cleaned up, moved my furniture back, and left. I will refer Home Shield, which we have. They usually send out competent people where you don't have to keep making requests, and that it's one copay for the individual to come out and they fix our issue. We've been in this house for 15 years and we've had Home Shield that long as well.

The experiences we've had with American Home Shield have been okay. But we only called them out for keys then we spent $75 for the initial call, and then we had to spend another $145 on top of that. Now we're calling them out again $75 for an air conditioner guy. We have an AC issue where the condensation is coming down into my attic. The guy said that the connector where the condensation goes back into the plumbing had come out, and he wasn't sure if it would stay there because it wasn't something he would fix, it was a plumber that would fix it. He said that it had cracked. It must have vibrated out again.
We need to call a plumber out. We haven't been running the air conditioner. If we don't fix it, then we're going to have another problem, which will probably be mold. We were trying to give it a chance in order for it to dry where the moisture had collected up in the attic. If the air conditioner goes out, then we'll just buy a new one. We're not going to spend the amount of money that American Home Shield wants in order to renew the contract. It's too expensive. It's not worth it to us. But then the two experiences that we've had with them were positive.

The AC wasn’t coming on and off. So, the thermostat wasn’t reading anything. It took a week to get the techs out but it was in a timely manner. My husband made a claim to American Home Shield on Friday of the week before and the contractor fit us in on their first available. The two techs were wonderful. I explained to them what was going on. They assessed the situation fast and told me exactly what was wrong. They weren’t even at the house long. They fixed everything and explained everything what they had to fix and what I need to look out for. And then, they were on their way.
Everything has been great since the repair. The tech told me to wait a couple of hours because on my second level, that's where everything is hot. He checked both ACs on the top level and he said that once the AC that he pointed out cools off in a couple of hours, everything upstairs will be fine. And it was. This time, the home warranty worked out and it was what we paid for.
We own another home which is warrantied by AHS. With this house, everything seems to be great. They always send a technician out and I've never had a bad one. They always assess the situation or whatever they say is wrong is what's wrong. They fix it and there's nothing. But at our other house, it's horrible. Every technician they send out is always like a patchwork and it's never the real problem. Our property manager there took a picture of the inside of our AC. It’s rusted and we've brought that up to American Home Shield numerous times, telling them that the house is over 15 years old. They will not warrant to replace the AC but they will do patchwork on it.

There was water leaking out of a pipe. We called American Home Shield and it was not difficult at all to get in touch with them. I received the contractor's contact information and when they would be here. When they came, they would leave us a card to make sure we knew who came. The repair people interacted with us while they were doing the work and throughout the whole repair. They told us that they were replacing the pipe. They had to remove the sink, and they're not finished yet with the service. I would refer AHS. I've utilized their services, and they did well. It was a professional experience.

Everything was good when Walston Mechanical came out for plumbing. They came out initially to fix the toilet. It was two toilets I put in for. They came out and once they left, one of the toilets started running or leaking. But it wasn't leaking on the outside. It was leaking inside the bowl. It just so happened to take place when I was out of town. The water company called and let me know that I had a 100-gallon an hour leak going on in my house.
So my father-in-law was in town. He has a key to my house. He went over there and found out that was what it was. It was one of the toilet bowls leaking. He just turned the faucet off. I initially called them. They told me I had to call AHS to let them know about it. So I called AHS and made them aware of it. For the most part, it was smooth. They got notified that I called AHS, and they came out and corrected the issue.

The master bathroom toilet was clogging. The tech was a nice older guy. He stated that he had to replace everything in the master bedroom toilet and he seemed to know what he was doing. I haven't had a problem since he left. I was satisfied that he did a good job. However, I've had issues with AHS in the past. That was with a dishwasher that really needs to be replaced. AHS sent me the same plumber on three occasions and he hasn't gotten the dishwasher to work like it should.
The plumber said that there was a plastic T-square thing, the kind that connects garments to price-tags, in the dishwasher and that was what was wrong with it. He said, "I don’t know what you’re washing in here, but this was in there.” I'm not an idiot and to assume that I did that was an insult to me. I’m not one to wash a hat, or anything like that. I know some dishwashers claim they do that but that's not what I do. That's not where I would put any article other than a utensil from the kitchen in the dishwasher. I never had. I would actually submit the $75 to pay for people to come out to take a look again at my dishwasher. But to me, I've paid enough almost to get another dishwasher. So it doesn’t make sense. Now, it’s like I’m giving AHS my money.

I’m rest assured that if I called American Home Shield, that I'm going to get that rectified in a shorter time. I can call them and they are very responsive, versus me trying to search around to find a person to come out, whether it's my refrigerator, my washer, or my dryer. One of my outlets, my GFI, was not working, so I called American Home Shield and the contractor came out. The tech troubleshot everything on my outlets but could not find the issue. Then he told me that he had to go into the attic to trace the lines because he thought that it might have been a rodent that might have chewed through the line. So I had him get up the attic, and then I called back. But they wouldn't answer my calls for a very long time. It took me five times and the person that answered me was somewhat rude.
When I finally was able to schedule it, I got a call back saying that I had to call AHS to get an approval the day before my appointment. So then I had to jump through hoops to call AHS to get that approved. And then they approved it, and so I had to call back to let them know that it was approved. So she was able to leave the appointment there. Then the electrician came out, and the experience with him was outstanding. The guy was very knowledgeable. It turned out that it was not a rodent. It was just the way my house was wired. One of the wires came loose from a switch. But once he was able to determine that and he put it back together, then everything is working 100%.
So my only issue that I had was with their customer service and scheduling. It was just not an experience that I was happy with. They didn't tell me what I needed to do, to call back and get a second appointment, to call AHS to approve that appointment. The procedure was not clear both from AHS and from the electrician. AHS didn’t call me to say, “Hey, did you schedule a second appointment?” There was no communication besides me having to jump through hoops to find that out.
If the company told me that I need to make a second appointment, they should communicate with AHS then communicate with me to say, “Okay, are you ready? Okay, cool.” Approve that second appointment so that the contractor can come out. But I had to take time off work to schedule that, because if not, their company is not open past a certain time, and then AHS is open but it's like a waiting game.
I know that there's a thing in the policy that says AHS covers all the damages. In the past, I had a dryer that the handle broke, AHS covered it, then it broke again. They said, “No, the way that you’re opening it is on you.” So they didn't cover it the second time. Communication back saying, “Hey, we fixed it. But just be aware that the way you're opening it is improper, and if it happens again, it's on you.”
We rely on the companies to come out and fix things and do things, but at times, the communication and training, especially for us, because we're not trained on that stuff. All we know is that it broke. But other than that, I've had my washer break and again, they fixed it. And I've had microwaves and refrigerators, and my AC unit, and AHS has always responded properly and within a certain amount of time. And the people they send out have been really nice and courteous.
We appreciate you taking time to share your warranty experience. We look forward to handling your AHS needs. I do apologize for any inconvenience. Have an amazing week.

Hers and His Plumbing - Florida came out to fix a couple of things. Two of the things they fixed were fine. The last thing was the toilet in my master bathroom. It was running. We assumed it was the flapper because the flapper was sinking in. But once they left, the handle became really hard to push. Maybe the chain was too loose and then the toilet is constantly running now. It's running a lot longer than it was previously. It'll run for four or five minutes and I have to go in and shut it off.
On original claims, going into American Home Shield seems to be fair. It's just when it goes down to do a recall, I don't know how to do a recall without having to resubmit a payment online. I'm nervous because every time someone comes, they mention that if you continue to have issues with certain things in your house that American Home Shield becomes a really hard company to deal with. So, I'm on the fence of stopping the service or continuing it because I feel like I'm paying them once a month and then the $75 for someone to come out, if it keeps breaking and they have to continue to fix it, they’ll basically say that they're gonna just cancel the contract. They don't continue to fix the same problems if certain things re-occur all the time. So, that, I'm having an issue with.

Initially, it took American Home Shield forever to get something going on wiith the dishwasher because of delay in parts. So we waited several months to try to get something done. But they finally figured out that they could go ahead and replace it, which was a good thing. I wish they had done that earlier. We put the request in back in March and it was before July that they ended up just saying they couldn't get the parts so they were just going to replace it. But once they decided they can replace it, things moved real quick. We got a thing on the email come in and we got a gift card for Lowe's. We're right now in the process of picking out a dishwasher at Lowe's and getting them to come and install it.
I had a previous claim for the washing machine and it went great. The guy determined it was going to cost more to fix it than to replace it. So he sent in the paperwork and within a matter of weeks, American Home Shield decided they were going to replace that too and that worked like it should have. So I'm very pleased with that. Overall, we're all good now. I appreciate the follow-up and checking in with us.

Normally, stuff gets fixed pretty quickly. But we're in some kind of holding pattern waiting on parts to come in for the AC. Floyd came out first but they don't work on this particular brand of AC unit. So when it got into the nitty-gritty, they had to refer it back to American Home Shield and Home Shield had another company, Blizzard, come out. I have a hard time believing that it takes two weeks to get in any part anywhere in the world. The air conditioner should get fixed sooner than a two-week waiting period. Sometimes American Home Shield is like, "We're going to try to piece and part it together," instead of replacing the unit if it is bad. But in general, I would recommend American Home Shield and I would renew with them.

I had a claim on my faulty dishwasher. The contractor came out and didn't think that they could fix it because there were multiple issues, so AHS replaced it. I also had one small claim recently on the air conditioner. The guy diagnosed it super fast, had the part on the truck, which was a capacitor, replaced it, and off he went. It's my first year with AHS and it's $40 and something per month, which is going to go up, which is no big deal. But even if it goes up and I had these two similar type claims, I'm still saving money. Both contractors did what they were supposed to do. As soon as I paid the $100 deductible, AHS got things rolling, so it was all good. I've already told a couple of people in the neighborhood because they couldn't believe how fast AHS got out here.

We had a garbage disposal in my tenant's unit that had a problem. Right away, American Home Shield called the contractor and that same day, they came. In 24 or 48 hours, they changed the garbage disposal. We had another claim for the drainage that had some issue. Right away, the contractor called me. The same day, in two hours after they were assigned, they were there and resolved the issue.
We had good and bad experiences with American Home Shield. When you ask for service, they assign a contractor right away. But from the time they put everything on the shoulder of the contractor, they don't step in when they see the contractor is not responsible. On side of the customer, we know that American Home Shield is doing the best to manage the situation, but they are dealing with some contractors who are not doing a good job. At the end, it makes a problem and customers have a bad impression on American Home Shield. I know that it is not the fault of American Home Shield, but at the same time, when they choose the contractor, they need to be supervised. They need to follow up with those people.
Last year, we had an issue with the air conditioner. It took about 14 days to handle the situation and American Home Shield changed the contractor. It was horrible. This year, we had another AC unit that we had a contract with American Home Shield. They chose a contractor who was not reliable. They came very late and were supposed to send a report to American Home Shield. Unfortunately, they are not responsible people. It took two weeks to send the report. American Home Shield ordered the part and in one week, the part came. The contractor was supposed to pick up the item and come to install it. We opened the case on July 2nd. Today is July 16th, and the contractor still hasn't come to install the plug to resolve the problem. They didn't even respond to American Home Shield.
We call American Home Shield every day. We tell them the tenant in the unit has not had an air conditioner for more than 14 days. In Illinois, they have two weeks to resolve the issue. If the contractor is irresponsible, then right away, American Home Shield needs to have somebody else to come. 10 days ago, we called American Home Shield again. We told them, “This person that you contracted doesn't respond to the phone. Your customer service emailed them and put a message every day. They need to call back to come to pick up the item. You need to involve management in the issue.” After 10 days, I never got any call from management or from the customer relation service from American Home Shield. The management don't step in when they notice there is a problem.

If I knew how things work, I would fix it myself and avoid the cost but I’m not an AC mechanic, that was why I called American Home Shield out. The first issue was there was no hot air coming out. It was at 10:30 at night. And of course, it always happens on a Saturday night. I was in the kitchen. My wife was out in the bedroom, and she said, “There's something wrong in the air.” I said, “What? How do you know?” She went, “I just felt it go on. I normally feel a whoosh of cold air, and it came out warm.” So, we looked. The fan was not running, but the air handler was running and blowing air. In other words, the thermostat was triggering and the thing was kicking on, but the outside unit wasn't working, and it was just blowing warm air.
The first technician came out and said that there was a short in the wires and one of the capacitors was bad, but there was also a small reptile that had gotten in there and shorted out a wire. He had to fix that. It worked after that. It was cooling the house. He explained to me what he said happened. He was pleasant, professional and he did the job.
The second guy came for the motor for the fan. It was making a weird noise. It wasn't doing that before. I have the contract with American Home Shield, so if it had been making that noise prior to them coming out, I would have said, “Hey, it's making a noise too.” I've never had the motor replaced. The guy said my fan motor was bad. So, he replaced it. Kudos to him for that. He initially said, “Hey, I don't have one with me. I'll have to get the part and I'll be back.” Now, the fan was still running, but it was making this noise like it wanted to break. He came back a few hours later and said, “I got the part. So I'll put it in today.” I thought that was great. If it had got to be broken over the weekend, then I could have been a whole another weekend without AC. So, that was an extra special effort put in by the second guy.
The only problem, and this is not just with American Home Shield but also with a lot of other companies in the US, is their representatives often have an accent. It's sometimes hard because they don't understand these nuances in the English language. Even though they understand the English, they lose the little nuances, and you can really go down a rabbit hole with that. Other than that, I find American Home Shield has lived up to their end of the contract very well.

I had an issue with my AC that on July 14th, a contractor came out for. They diagnosed the issue and submitted the claim. I then followed up with AHS to discuss options. They told me about the cash out option and they said the other option would be they replace the AC unit and I will pay for modification fees. Before we found out the detail about the cash option, I had to follow up with them for two weeks. When I called, they would always say that the cash out option people were on lunch or that they had left for the day. After two weeks, I found out that they would only offer me $1,816 for the cash out option so I denied that option and told them I was willing to pay for modification.
After that, when I called back and asked when the parts would arrive for the contractor to pick the unit up and replace it, no one gave me any details on that. I kept following up and calling back. Every time I call them, each American Home Shield agent told me different things. On the first call, they tried to push back the contractor and verify that I agreed with that option. The lady from that day was very rude to me and she successfully avoided my questions. I followed up the next time and the rep said I need to talk to the cash option people because the cash option was still on the table. It wasn’t confirmed that it was denied so the part orders were being held. It had been two weeks and I had followed up seven times. She got me off the phone and transferred to me the cash option department.
I spoke with Christie from that department and told her I was denying the cash out option and asked her to put that in the system. She said she did. On Wednesday, last week, I called back and the rep was really nice. He tried to be on the phone with me and tried to reach out to the purchase department. He told me that the same cash out option hadn't been put in the system and he had to do it on that day. After that, he tried to call the purchase department. I was on call for 2 hours and 45 minutes. Then, he has the estimated time for every call so I let him go. He apologized and he put in the notes for someone to reach me back. No one ever reached out to me. He emailed me last Friday and I called him back. He said he was working on it and he tried to contact the American Home Shield local office to try to figure out what's going on. It seemed like that the miscommunication was internal. This case has been going on for over a month at this point.

He called before he came out then took out the icemaker and seemed to know what he was doing. He had to order a part, but when he put the new part in, he still found a problem in it. He ordered another part and hadn't been back yet. It takes time to get a part, and that was a week ago.

Recently, Delta came and fixed our air conditioner and gave us some relief. 10 years ago, our air conditioner went out and it was deemed that we needed to get a whole new system. The only thing that I wasn't really happy about was the air conditioning unit is on top of our carport, and the vendor that Home Shield sent out required a crane to be rented. It would have been like thousands of dollars and that was not something that Home Shield would cover. I had a friend's uncle come out and they didn't need a crane. So, I felt like the vendor was trying to get over and just get extra money. I wasn't very happy with that. But American Home Shield cashed out and it was fine. I was able to get it taken care of.

My refrigerator was leaking on the floor and messing it up. I called American Home Shield and the rep asked me what I needed. Then, she asked me to show her the refrigerator and give her a description of what was leaking. She did a thing called stream where she took a picture of it while we were on the phone. The tech called and told me who he was and that he got a call from AHS about my refrigerator. He asked me questions so I knew he was a legitimate dude. He was very polite. He came in and asked me what was going on and asked me why I thought it was the icemaker. I said that I didn't know. I was getting water on my floor and the icemaker has given us trouble before and I thought maybe that was the same situation. He said okay and he opened up the refrigerator, and he said that was not it. He said he got a bummer deal for me and I asked what it was. All I could think of was a new refrigerator and he said that we got to clean out the fridge.
We had to take everything out of the fridge and he helped me. He was a nice guy. He worked for 45 minutes to an hour and he said that I could put everything back and that I was done. At the very back of the refrigerator, there was something to do with evaporation of water and he said that it gets frozen up sometimes but there’s a pan for it to drip into. Sometimes, the pan will get full or dirty and it will overflow. When he opened the refrigerator and took out one of the drawers in it, he told me to look at all the water and he said that it was what was dripping onto my floor. He heated up the coils and then, he turned it off and cleaned it up. He put the shelves back in for me so I could put the food back in and he said that should take care of it. He also said that Samsung had a valve that looked like a duckbill and when it would get hot or full, it would clog up. He had a replacement for that and he said it won't happen again. So, I said okay.

When I set a claim up online, it's easy. It's almost instantly that a contractor calls and they have someone within 30 minutes. I get a text saying that a contractor is coming out to look at my problem. Some of the contractors are not very good at all but some of them are great. The air conditioning place that came was great. All American Electrical Services was amazing. The guy that came for the lights that kept flickering was awesome. He replaced something on the sides. That's my second time that I've had them out here for a different occasion and they've done a great job both times.
American Home Shield has been great. The only problem I've ever had is getting ahold of somebody. They have such a high volume of customers now and you're on hold forever. It never used to be like that. Sometimes, the people are nice and their hands are tied. The stuff that the first electrician that they sent me was saying made absolutely no sense. I'm not an electrician and I was confused. I wasn't comfortable with it. When I called American Home Shield, they called somebody else, and the problem was fixed. They said that they removed that electrician from their system. Also, I had a plumber come out and they weren't very good at responding to American Home Shield, telling them if the case was solved. American Home Shield couldn't move me forward or do anything. It was stuck in limbo going back and forth and that was a pain. It was the contractor's fault for not completing their paperwork.
Thanks for reaching out to provide that feedback. I am glad the contractors followed through with the appointment that was set but happier for you that your issue has been resolved.

I'm enjoying American Home Shield very much. It's the best thing I ever purchased. So far, everything's been successful. The only thing that we had a problem was with the plumber that came last week. He told me I needed some parts but I haven't heard from him yet. He never called me back. So I called this morning to Mister Plumber, and the guy said he's going to check and call me back. Other than that, everything else that I did was fine. American Home Shield fixed all the things that I asked them to fix.
I had a claim for the AC and the contractor was very professional. They called me before they came up. They came on time. They were very nice people. One of their techs adjusted my things in the air and the outlets. He said that was the only thing he can do. He also cleaned my compressor downstairs, and it's working fine now.

The trouble with our unit was that power was not being received from the main furnace circuit board to the unit’s circuit board. The AC unit worked if supplied with its own power. The contractor needed to replace a switch on the panel on the AC unit to make sure it received power. They came last Wednesday. The technician said, “I don't know if we can get it tomorrow. Maybe Friday.” Apparently, you have to call American Home Shield and they have to order the part. I've been calling three or four times asking do we know when the part will come but I was just told to be patient. We went through a 100-degree weekend without any word of when the AC unit is going to be fixed. I still have no idea when that part will be sent to the repair people. They told me sometimes they've had customers wait two to three weeks so I'm getting a little nervous.
This is our first experience with American Home Shield and some transparency would be good. When I asked where the part’s being mailed from or an estimate on time, it would have been helpful for someone to say, “The typical turnaround time for these things is up to a week, but it's a priority,” or “Let me see if we can do anything to expedite it.” The craziest part was I was talking to a rep and he was telling me, "Let me see if I can expedite it.” He came back and they were having an earthquake. He had to go. My luck passed to this poor guy, that he literally had an earthquake right when he was checking to see if he can expedite the part. But he was helpful. The next lady was the one that told me to be patient. Going through this route of having a home warranty, while it is going to save you money, it's a process. You might not get that repair that day. My husband was mad last night and wants to cancel American Home Shield. He was cooking dinner and he was hot.

The only drawback is the contractors that come through American Home Shield sometimes and they don't know them. I don't like most of them. They're a pain. They don't want to work for AHS. They try to make more money out of us and that has been a problem. I call back and let AHS know about that particular incident. And normally, they're good and they say, "Well, if it doesn't work, we just go ahead and assign somebody else." But I've been lucky that I haven't had issues with the plumber that I had and the person who came for the refrigerator to be fixed a few months ago. My ice maker was leaking from the wall. It's a valve to the refrigerator line that goes for the ice.
Some of the quality of work, I'm very satisfied, some, I'm not. But if you're older or you're a woman, you live by yourself, you don't have to screen anybody to come in. This is the best way. They're really good. I have recommended AHS to my other friends and members of our family. My co-workers are the single moms and older women. Last week, our AC went out. I called American Home Shield and they told me the person was supposed to respond in 24 hours. They did call me the next morning and a guy came out. AHS does not pay for all of the amount for the Freon that they put in the AC unit. So, I was out like $190 after I paid AHS 125. AHS doesn’t pay but $10 of each pound. The guy said, “You have a leak but I couldn’t find it.” I said, “So if I got a leak then you didn’t find anything, that means you’re gonna be coming back here soon? I mean, how is the leak?” He said, “I don’t know.” He didn't know if the leak was slow or fast. And in a couple of days, the AC went back to the same situation. We called them back, and now they're gonna come back out. I asked them who they were sending. They told me another guy named Mark will be out. I was gonna tell them, “Do not send the same guy because he couldn’t find the leak.”
I’m okay with American Home Shield. I’ve been with them a couple of years and I haven't had any problem. It seemed like this time around, when I called them and I got a problem, they set me up with somebody who called the next day. With American Home Shield, anytime I've needed something, I've always been able to get someone out here quickly and they've been very helpful. Seabreez AC and Heating came out and they fixed my air conditioner. They were the second people to come out and look at it. The gentleman did the repair really quickly. He might have been here for about 15 minutes and he found the problem. My air conditioner is working again.
Seabreez was great. I let her the girl who called me know that I wouldn't be home but somebody would be. I kind of gave a description of what was going on. Once they came out to my home, I got a call from the person at my house. I had a conversation with the gentleman that came to fix the air conditioner and he said, “Okay, I'm going to take a look at it and we’ll see what we can do.” Within about 15 minutes, he called me back and let me know that the capacitor had melted. He thought that was the only issue but he let me know that I had a 30-day warranty, and that if anything happened within those 30 days, they would come back out for free.

During our first year with AHS, I thought it was really helpful and we decided to renew for the second year. This year, I've been less happy with their response to claims. Especially when submitting a claim for a plumbing issue, and then coming back that we have to pay a certain part of it, which was not our experience in the past when we put in a claim for the exact same issue as the previous year. They wanted us to pay for part of it, which it’s the same claim we've submitted the year before. Fixed it, didn't hold. So, then we had to put it in again. We also put in a claim recently regarding our air conditioning. They were able to come on site and at least, initially, repaired the issue. But we're not sure if it's going to hold. We'll see if we have to do another callback on that or not.
But I like the online portal for submitting claims. That is nice. But better communication about why some things are approved and others are not would be helpful. Because I have to find it out through the service provider, like the plumber or the electrician. I'm waiting for them to get back to me because they reach out to AHS and I don't get anything official who let me know. It was hard to respond when I disagree or want more information.

I recently had an AC issue where it was blowing out air, but it was barely coming out. We got a basement, a middle floor and the top floor. On the middle floor and the basement, it was cold but it wasn't as cold as it should be. The upstairs was where it really was stuffy.
Airmax came on the day that their service was scheduled. They were about 15 minutes early. They told us that they didn't have to add Freon, which they thought was what they had to do. I had the thermostat on auto on the fan part of it. So, when you put it on auto, it was only going to cool up to that temperature. I should put it on fan and click it on. The thermostat will think that because the first floor is cool, then everything else is cool. The tech said if you put fan, it should make it better. We've had some issues with the air conditioner and that took a while. AHS told us from the very beginning that it should be replaced as it's old. They sent somebody out to do a quote for that but then it just needed some kind of electrical board and that was what ended up fixing it this time. The AC was down for about two weeks because we were waiting for the part. We had to go out and spend $400 on air conditioners for the house, on top of the deductibles that we were having to pay.
The plumbing issues have been a different story altogether. The guy came in, he was there for 20 minutes, and the plumbing is just as old as the air conditioning unit, but he was able to knock out the issues. Things come up and people don't always have money to take care of all of it so they're better off paying a little bit for the home warranty a month. Then as they pay a little bit for a month, they have a small deductible for little things and big things and that makes it cost effective.

We were having an issue with one of the outlets where it sparked. We had to have an electrician come out to deal with that. Then he also changed out the smoke detectors. It was great service. The things that we've had to have done, we probably would have had to come out of pocket more if we didn't have AHS. We've had electrical issues. We've also had to have a plumber come out a few months ago.

My AC was not blowing cold air inside the house and we had to shut it down. The techs came in a timely manner and solved the problem. He said he would replace a part. He got the unit running and working. Everything went very well. AHS's claim process is simple and they have improved from when I first started. In the beginning, I would try to make a call and I would be waiting for a long time before somebody picked up the phone. Also, there was a lot of confusion on how to put a claim, or call centers had people that could not understand what I was trying to accomplish.
When the sales agent called me to renew my contract I was offered some sort of two-month discount. But when I made the claim and talked to the person that took my claim, the person said that a month was charged. I was supposed to renew my contract in July if I wanted to continue using AHS and I really wasn't gonna do it because of the bad experience I had in the past. But the sales agent got me back. I was not told that I would be paying for the month of July though. I have just renewed in August. AHS's order process is not so good. Other than that, the repair and claim process were very good.

I've had AHS for decades and the price and co-pay will probably just keep going exceedingly high. But that's my only complaint. Recently, the AC was running constantly but it wasn't cooling the house. The tech replaced the coolant but sometimes, it seems the unit is not cooling as well as it should. The weather has been so crazy that I can't really tell if it's just that hot that the AC doesn't feel it's cooling properly.

We received a home warranty from AHS as part of our home sale. This company pays a commission to real estate agents to get it as part of the home sale. If I were to research other companies, I would not have chosen this one. In the year that we’ve had it, I paid $200 In deductibles for a $300 microwave and still had to replace it out of pocket. The worst has been our AC though. Over the last 3 weeks, I’ve called the customer service line and the contractor half a dozen times and can’t get my AC fixed. The contractor says it’s AHS, AHS says it’s the contractor.
First, AHS said the contractor just needed to come out to replace the part and the contractor said AHS has to order the part. Then AHS had to escalate the order. The latest update is that the contractor didn’t submit the documentation but the contractor says they have proof. They won’t even give me a timeline of when they’ll have someone look at the claim. Save yourself the trouble and look for a company that actually communicates with its contractors instead of making customers do their job.

I had a flooding two years ago, and I noticed that the sump pump wouldn't work sometimes. And when I turn on the faucet to take a bath, the water was coming out slow. I called American Home Shield and the rep was very professional. I was putting in three separate claims but the other two weren’t covered. When she was putting the claims in, she was explaining what comes under which coverage and she was very helpful. The technicians came out and tightened up my toilet. They gave me a brand-new sump pump. They explained to me that the sump pump was covered but the piping was not. They called the supervisor and talked to him. The supervisor was good and he worked with me. He called me himself and told me he was going to send someone out the next day, which he did. And they constantly kept in touch with me.
The repair helped good because the same day that they put the sump pump in, we had heavy rains that night. They haven't completed the bathtub yet because they're waiting on the parts to come in but they're supposed to come back. I have to call them when the parts come in. But the toilet, especially the one in my upstairs bathroom used to move from side to side when I sit down. But now, that doesn't move anymore and also very helpful.
The technicians were here before when I had work with them previously. I was trying to sell my house and the inspector came out and there were a few other things that were on a list. The technicians explained which ones were not needed and were unnecessary because they were preventative stuff. They were very good. I was very pleased with my experience with American Home Shield. They were very professional, courteous and helpful. They listened carefully and took time out to explain everything to me carefully. People need to sign up with them.

An Arc Compliance tech came in the first day because my freezer defrosted. He was on time and extremely professional. He spilled a little water on my carpet and he ran to his truck and grabbed a wet vac. I could have picked that up with a towel but he said, “No, no, no. I gotta clean it up.” He said the coils of my freezer had frozen up, which was the ticking noise I kept hearing. Once it defrosted, which took out the freezer, it went back on again. He knew the freezer defrosted because there was frozen ice in the bottom tray where it had a little indentation to catch moisture.
The tech took care of everything for me. He turned the icemaker on. This has overflowed since day one and I've had Samsung in a couple of times to replace things. They kept saying that was just the way it is. I had to have a little hammer to smash the ice so I could use it. The tech said the ice maker was shot so he ordered a replacement and that was the best thing ever. I haven’t had to bust ice. I'm happy. I wish I had known my freezer was defrosting. I would have put the ticket in way early on Saturday. The good thing is I kept the fridge closed and it was 41 degrees the whole time.
Arc was fantastic and the next time I have an appliance problem, I would like to request them. There are unscrupulous people everywhere and great contractors are hard to find. I recommended Arc to my next-door neighbor who had a problem with their French door refrigerator. They showed up within hours to fix their refrigerator.
American Home Shield's claiming process has been great so far. The only problem I had was with one of the air guys. He had a horrific review. I had a Lennox air conditioner and it was three years old when I bought the house. The guy didn't like Lennox and he didn't like working on them. He said they were a pile of junk. He also called me stupid. In the end, I had to put another ticket in because the guy screwed it up. My air went out again over a holiday weekend and I wasn’t the happiest. I checked the contractors American Home Shield was using and I picked the guy that my best friend had used. He was fabulous until he moved to Tennessee. Other than that, I've had a great experience with American Home Shield. They did my garbage disposal, air conditioner, old fridge, new fridge, and garage door opener, which was a major malfunction. The belt broke and it got stuck in it. It caught on fire and put smoke stains all over the garage.

He could just repair it minimally. At some point, we're going to need to do more to it.

When I call American Home Shield's customer service, they're very accommodating and I don't have any issue with them. It's the type of contractors that they have that are not high quality. They're going with these lower bids to save them cost but the customer is not getting top service. I keep having to call the companies to come back and fix the problem multiple times. I have to reschedule another appointment. Obviously, I'd like to have the work done the first time around.
One of them is Medallion Plumbing. The plumber was very nice but he came four times to fix my toilet because it wasn't flushing completely. The first time he came out, the other two bathrooms were fine, but I was unable to flush in my master bathroom completely. I had to hold down the handle. He came back and changed it, but that didn't do much. Then, he recently came back and put a new and better one, that apparently, he paid because American Home Shield only provided standard equipment. So far, it's okay. I noticed that sometimes, I'll flush and the water will run after a while then it'll eventually stop, but it takes a little longer. I'm eyeing that right now to see if it's going to be continuous because it doesn't happen every time, and I don't know if it's the way that the handle is being pressed down.
Also, the quality of these technicians is not as high as some other contractors. I thought that the leaking on my ceiling from the attic in my hallway was resolved. But then when I turned my AC on yesterday, it started leaking again. This person from South Placer Heating and Air came out on Friday and said he unclogged a condenser drain line. I called them and they're scheduled to come this Thursday to look at it. However, I gave high marks because I thought he was thorough compared to the previous contractor. I didn't want that technician from Abbott’s Heating and Air Conditioning to come out because he didn't do a thorough job as I still had problems. But then I haven't had any issues with the doorbell so far and the guy that came out to do my laundry light. AT Appliances was also great.

It was an urgent matter and we couldn't get someone out there who was available immediately. It took a good eight hours to find someone. Then, AHS said they couldn't find anyone and told me to try to call around and see if I can so I did. But I had to pay for it and then get reimbursed and there was a huge problem with that. It took me probably five months to get reimbursed for that emergency situation.

American Home Shield is pretty good. I was kind of weary at first. When I moved into my condo, some of the appliances were kind of on the older end and my realtor recommended them. Now, I'm in Boston visiting my mom and she has a warranty service through Sears and she's going through hell. She started a work order from June and she's trying to get her refrigerator and a microwave repaired. I'm trying to help her clear this thing up. I have one company on one phone and the other company on another phone. I had them on three-way and I was like, "This is crazy." I got upset with American Home Shield the other day because they assigned me a technician and three days passed and I never got a call. So, they had to switch me out to a new technician, which was pretty good and they just had the process rolling.
I had gotten a new dryer and a new washer through American Home Shield and the process wasn't as bad as what my mom's going through. Finally, she was assigned to a case manager, and the case manager stopped dealing with her after one of the repair visits she had started was fixed. But when the technician left, within a couple of hours, the refrigerator stopped working. The case manager did not know. Every time my mom tried to get in touch with the case manager, she couldn't reach them. So, she was handling everything on her own. Finally, after talking to Sears again in length yesterday, they put her back in touch with her case manager.
The case manager was like, "Oh, my God, I didn't know you were still going through this." They gave her a small fridge to keep her medication and certain things, and then she had another small fridge in her bar that she's using. However, it's very inconvenient. It's congested. The case manager said my mom doesn't have to call anymore. She's gonna take care of it.
DayBreak did a good job. The guy who came out looked at my washer because the washer top came out of place, and he fixed that. Then, on my refrigerator, the ice wasn't crushing, but I noticed it crushed sometimes. He explained what it does when I switch it. He was pretty good. He was on point. As far as American Home Shield, there was some delay between the assessment and sending it to the purchasing department, or there was some kind of a communication thing. They didn't let me know. They weren't updating me on my actual portal on what was going on. So, I had to call two times about that.

My dryer was making a very terrible noise. I called American Home Shield and the guy came out fast. I only waited a week for the part and it's all fixed and working fine now. The claim before was a disaster. I had some very terrible people who ignored my calls. When they came, they said they were doing something and the guy was just standing up there doing nothing while they were supposed to be fixing our stuff. Once I saw American Home Shield was having problems with this company, I went online and Googled them. Everybody was telling me the same problem I had. It was a very bad company, so I put in a complaint with American Home Shield about them. I asked them to please remove these people off their services so they don't do this to anybody else.
I was without a refrigerator over a month dealing with that company until I called American Home Shield and complained. I had a freezer and I had a little dorm refrigerator that you get for college kids, and I had to pay money for those. I also found myself spending even more money 'cause I ended up eating out because I couldn't buy food and put it in a refrigerator. All the money and time I lost, I never got reimbursed for anything. I just finally got my refrigerator fixed.
American Home Shield switched me to someone else who was able to get the part and had my refrigerator fixed in a week. The lesson I learned from that claim is as soon as AHS tells you who is going to be coming over to fix your stuff, Google them right away. If I had Googled that company right away, I wouldn't have had that problem. I could've said, "No, I don't want these people."

I had a tech come out but I don't think it was fixed properly because it's still doing the same thing. Other than that, whenever I have a claim, it could be 48 hours before I receive any service from the people down here in Texas, unless I call them, which is ridiculous. Also, for the first couple of years, AHS went up drastically price-wise and I'm ready to do a lot of shopping around and see if I can get the same coverage at a lesser price.

He replaced the pressure valve but didn't work on the filter as well. Everything's working great now. I'm too invested in having the warranty. I wouldn't do it if I could start over from scratch. But since I bought the dang house in 2009 and with the money I invested in the damn thing, I might as well keep it now. But I feel that if I took the same amount of money monthly that I paid American Home Shield and just put that aside, it would have worked out just fine.
My fear is every time I've had them and anytime I use them, they really kind of nickel and dime things. I never had a major bust yet of an air conditioner or something like that that needs to be replaced. The only problem is one of my air conditioners went out. I got the air conditioner guy here. I've had American Home Shield on every house I've had and the top benefit is if you have any problem, you call up and they come out for it. They're professional, know what they're doing and get the job done. I've had American Home Shield come out for water heater, air conditioning, and plumbing issues. I just bought my fourth house three years ago. My water heater is 18 years old, and they're not supposed to go past 10 years. One time, the pilot light on my water heater went out for some reason. City Plumbing came out on July 23rd and replaced some of the parts.
The water heater was working fine, but one day, we had it in the morning, then the pilot light went out again for no reason. I tried to light it. I read the instructions, aired out my garage twice, and it wouldn't work. I called City Plumbing again, and the same gentleman came out on August 18th. He was very nice and polite. He got it to light, but he still went in, looked everything over, and moved the pilot closer to the sparker. It's been running fine since then.
The one problem I had was that the first time City Plumbing came out, I had to wait a week to get the appointment, and I didn't like that. That means we had to spend a week heating water on the stove to do dishes and have hot water for a shower. That was no good. Second time, when we called American Home Shield and it was the same plumbing service that was brought up, I reconfirmed with them that yes, they were the same ones that were coming out. I told the rep, "Look, we cannot wait a week again." The girl I was talking to said, "Let me check," then she said, "We can have somebody out there tomorrow." That was great. They moved their schedule around to make sure that they could get somebody out here as soon as possible.

There was a leak from the upstairs bathroom that's showing up in my laundry room. American Home Shield responded really quickly and set up a call. I had to reschedule the initial appointment on my side, but they agreed. It was perfect and the tech was super nice. He saw the issue immediately, fixed it, and explained in detail what he did. Trying to find the issue on their site was a bit off though. AHS should add a few additional dropdowns. Other than that, the claim process was pretty simple.

This was a flip house. The kitchen sink was totally jacked up. It was leaking. We had to keep a bucket underneath the drains to keep from ruining the bottom of the cabinet and stuff. And basically, when the plumber came out, he said, “You just had the wrong settings in here.” He switched everything out fairly quickly. And it’s working fine now.
A home warranty helps you out when things happen that you don't have to figure out. This particular one wasn’t terribly expensive to fix. But if, God forbid, the AC blows up, or you get a leak in the roof, next thing you know, you've got a big number fix to deal with. And you're keeping yourself protected that way. American Home Shield has been very helpful. They have made recommendations on things we should do for general maintenance. And when we needed them, they came right through.

American Home Shield could improve on the timeliness when it comes to getting feedback from their service and parts department. A lot of times, I have to call to get the update after the vendor that's doing the repair has been out to the home. It's a 48 to 72-hour response from them. Then sometimes, the notes in their system are not representative of the feedback the vendor provided to me and provided to them.
Also, there are times when I pay with my bank account and they wouldn't post it. Then they will send me two or three additional bills for the same payment I already made. They also don't initiate the vendor coming out to do the initial screen until their receipt of payment and I know they received payment because the vendor came out. So, systems aren't always responsive to the most recent transaction that customers do. Then their representatives in the service department sometimes just don't have a clue what's going on with the actual issue at hand. I don't know if they're in a rush or just overlooking the notes.
But then from when I first began with them, they've grown tremendously. With growth, they just got to maintain their quality surveillance of their service department and respond to the customer. At least with a current update would be good from the vendor as you're waiting parts. They can also possibly have some RPAs in the background, so when things are inputted by the vendor, they can automatically generate a response to the customer. The customer doesn't have to always call for an update. They can be pushed. In my recent claim, Lake Anna Doors are still waiting on parts and still resolving that. I also had my pool pump claim that went well and got replaced. Thus far, American Home Shield is a good company. They're responsive and I will stick with them.

My AC unit was not working at all and it had gone out a few times. So, this wasn't the first or second time someone had to come out to look at it. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was simple with the automated system and the wait time has gotten better if you have to speak to someone. But I still wasn’t clear on what exactly I had to pay for out of pocket. I thought that what the contractor had to do was included and it was not. So, I had a big out-of-pocket expense. I would recommend people to shop around and get as much information as you can as far as your out-of-pocket expenses. Because AHS replaced the unit and paid for the unit and the labor but I had over $1,900 out of pocket that I had to pay still, along with you having to pay your $100 for people to come out. And that's what I have to check. Because they were supposed to reimburse me for the $100 because this is the third time somebody came out.

Sears addressed the claim better than they usually do. It was a dishwasher that broke. Initially, it was gonna take a week for them to come out and take a first look at it. I called the company up and they hadn't had an appointment that day. They worked us in. It took two or three days to get a part and a week to get someone else back out there, and they fixed it.
Nothing usually gets fixed the first time. It usually takes several visits. I know that that's how things work but it's frustrating when you have an appliance out and can't get anything fixed the first visit. We had our air conditioner looked at one time. The gentleman told me their hands were tied by, sometimes, American Home Shield's policies. Sometimes they don't cover the whole repair which they tell you it's $100 deductible and everything's covered. But when you get someone out there, they only cover freon up to a certain percent then you have to pay the difference and this and that, which still leaves you out of pocket a lot of money. I did not know this about American Home Shield, but that was what one of the vendors was telling me when they came out to look at my air conditioner on a previous repair.

I asked American Home Shield not to send First American Plumbing out again because the first time they came out, one of the gentlemen broke the screw on the toilet because he couldn't get it off. He put in a report that it was owner abuse. They had to send out another plumbing company for a second opinion. He said that was not the case. AHS just sent out First American Plumbing again and they told me that they have to tear out my shower walls, and I would have to pay $589 for each part. I asked them to send another plumber here. The plumber said, “Number one, that's not the problem. What it is, is you need another cartridge. And we don't have to tear out your wall. All we have to do is take your faucets out, put the cartridge in.” They fixed it. No demolition of the walls.
I'm still waiting on AHS to tell me what they are going to do about the guest bathroom. I called about the problem in three bathrooms. Here we go again with this owner abuse. How do you abuse a tub? Water is not free-flowing out of the tub. That's not owner abuse. So, I asked AHS. The guy told AHS, “What we need to do is only $750.” I still haven't heard from AHS. It’s almost three weeks now. That was in July. But customer service is 100% with them. They are very pleasant. I've only had one bad experience. That guy was just having a wrong day. I just told him, “I'm gonna pray for you.” He changed his whole demeanor. He said, “Thank you.” I feel like just celebrating all the time because I know they can help.
When I first got with them, they replaced my overhead microwave and my refrigerator. But it took me two months to replace my TV. I was told that I didn't pay the deposit. I did. Then they found out that the girl both deposits on the same TV instead of putting it on both TVs. I was then told my TV was lost somewhere. It was in the warehouse and they couldn't find it. I have still referred them. I referred them to my daughter. Her hot water tank went out. On the commercial, they said they fixed that stuff. They said they couldn't get to it for a while. She ended up having to come out $3,000. And my godmother, they canceled hers because they said she had two claims in one year. She's 70-something years old.

I always thought that I was supposed to pour some vinegar in the drain line occasionally for a buildup of algae. So, I poured a bunch of vinegar in there. The problem is I poured it in too fast. And because it's on the first floor, it didn't drain fast enough. So, it backed up into the flow valve and shut off the flow valve. I had checked everything. I had sucked out the line and put batteries in the thermostat. But I didn't know to unscrew this thing and find out that there was vinegar backed up into the line. All the contractor did was unscrew the things and there was vinegar in the line. They just fixed it and went on their way.
If you call American Home Shield on the phone, sometimes you have a very long wait time. But my refrigerator went out and they replaced it with a very nice refrigerator. They took care of the work. The guy gave me some education and taught me what I was looking at. So, it's very helpful and I really enjoyed their work.
I've also made a claim against my air conditioning, and I just found out that American Home Shield caps refrigerant for air conditioning units at $10 a pound. On the new refrigerants, the refrigerants are much higher than that. So, I'm going to be the one coming out of pocket $60 to $100 per pound on units that have five or six pounds on them. American Home Shield was difficult. Both Family Heating & Cooling and I had to contact them several times to get them to replace the wall unit. And I'm still waiting for Family Heating & Cooling to get the wall unit so that it can be installed. It's American Home Shield trying to misclassify what the issue was. They kept trying to tell me it's the window unit even though both Family Heating and I told them it is not a window unit, it's a wall unit. This is even after they provided them with pictures, and me providing with the model of the unit. Then, Family Heating had to do something else and call them directly to get them to approve the replacement of the unit. That process was super irritating.

We haven't used the warranty a lot, but we recently used it with our AC unit because we had some tenants in our house that didn't take care of everything too well. I did the claim through the online site, which was simple, and we weren't charged anything besides the on-call fee. The AC unit was overgrown, and the tech came out and fixed it the very next day. He was perfect. He called us prior to showing up and as soon as he finished, he gave me a call and let me know what exactly was wrong with the unit, what he fixed, that he did the annual service and fixed everything, and recharged it too. It was better than having to try to figure it out ourselves and pay an actual person to come out.

My AC unit was just blowing hot air. I walked in and my house was 89 degrees when I got in from work. That was one of the hottest days. I called in the claim 9:00 at night. The contractor reached out to me in the morning after I called them and they told me they would have a technician here between 3:00 to 6:00 pm. That worked out really well. I got home, the tech called me, and said he was about 20 minutes out.
Initially, the tech walked in and looked at everything. He said something smelled like it was burning. It was some kind of wire from the house that was going into the box. That was shutting off the breaker so he said we might need to call an electrician. He turned on the breaker but it kept shutting off. In the end, the tech fixed the wire. That was amazing and I appreciated him for not just saying, "I'm gonna call an electrician." He went downstairs, turned the breaker back on, and it stayed on.
I asked if he was not going to wait to see if the unit was gonna blow cool air. He said he didn't have to and that the unit would be blowing cool air. He was so confident in his work and in what he did. He was actually right. I was very pleased. I had another contractor come in when I had issues with my refrigerator and it took them almost 21 days to even get here. I was buying dry ice for almost three and a half weeks. We have never gotten such poor service with American Home Shield in our lives. The vendors that they are issuing to people are people that are either already out of business or going out of business. And you can't get in touch with the people in AHS. We called them 20 times. We get hung up on. We called the vendor. We finally got in touch with them. Our dryer had stopped working. And the gentleman finally came out. Total Air Care did a wonderful job. The gentleman that came was very professional and courteous. He and my husband had a conversation about veterans. He took the dryer apart, and left it in our laundry room, and said he had to order a couple of parts for it. He said it would be here in about a week. We waited for that.
We called AHS because this has been going on a second week. AHS said it wouldn't be in until July 8th. That was another week that went by. We called AHS back and they said that they would reach out to the vendor. They called the vendor while I was on the phone, and all they got was the answering machine. They said they had to wait within 24 hours and have to call them back. They waited for 24 hours, they never called us back.
Our dryer is still in the laundry room, all in pieces. We called AHS so many times, back and forth. The escalation department was supposed to get back with us. But they just totally abandoned us. And we didn't get in touch with anyone from AHS until I got on Facebook. I saw AHS' logo on there so I sent a message and told them what was going on. Someone finally got back to us. They finally got in touch with the vendor and said that he could come out. I said, “Well, we didn’t want the guy to come to our house. Because it’s been so long, and he just abandoned the work. Why would we want him to come to our home?” AHS said that he got the part back on the 29th. And here it is, the 9th and 10th of July. This was the 29th of June, the guy got the part. He never called so we couldn't do anything. We had to go back and forth to the laundromat to wash our clothes.
AHS said they would send someone else. No one else called us, no one else ever came out. My husband had to fix it himself. He is disabled and his back was hurting, but we had to get the dryer fixed. It was horrible. We couldn’t believe it. We pay every month on time. AHS takes out $100 every time someone has to come out. We’re missing money out of our accounts. My husband had to pay for parts for the dryer.
Our hot water isn't getting hot. But we're afraid to call because it takes AHS so long to get someone out here. Then they tell us, “Well, you can call the vendor yourself.” When we call the vendors, we just get an answering machine. If stuff like that is happening, they just abandon us. I had another situation at our previous home, and the same thing happened with the vendor. We couldn’t get in touch with them. If you call on the tech, we kept getting an answering machine. I had AHS call, they kept getting an answering service. They told me that I had to wait another 24 to 48 hours for the person to call them back, and the person never called them back. I'm surprised that the lady was able to get in touch with Total Air as quickly as she did.

I like the fact that when something breaks, I can call AHS and they send somebody out to take care of it. Recently, the tech that came out for our dishwasher was great. He was the same guy both times. The first time, he came and diagnosed it, and then they had to order the part. The part was in pretty fast. So, he came back out, repaired it and explained everything to me. Everything’s been great since the repair.

I called American Home Shield and told them I needed to reset the water heater every day. When water gets heated too much, it has to reset because of safety issues. They sent technician on site and looked at it. The only response I got back from American Home Shield was we needed a second confirmation. Everything is perfectly fine with the interaction, the customer care and the technician. We know things are not normal because of covid. It's hard to find people and set an appointment. I've had three call-outs so far. The first one went well and the AC was taken care of. The last one was electrical and it turned out being relatively simple. The one in the middle was with the water temperature and pressure. In the master shower area, initially, I would get quick, hot water with good pressure. Now, I have to wait a minimum of 10 minutes to get any hot water at all. On top of that, the water pressure is poor. The individual that was sent out thought the problem was pre-existing. I got a call from American Home Shield saying that because of that, it wouldn't be covered.
Then, AHS said they would have somebody else come out. I told them that if it's just pre-existing versus not pre-existing, I don't know if it really matters if they send something out. All that really matters is what they define as preexisting. I'm not too happy with this claim in the middle because I have not heard back and the issue still has not been fixed. The technicians have been pretty quick and punctual with the timeframe. But AHS should close the loop on the second claim and let me know what's going on pretty quickly.

Everything's lovely right now with AHS. After investigation, both of the heating elements and the thermostats went bad in the water heater. The techs replaced the thermostat and the heating elements in both, the top and the bottom. They had the parts available and were very professional in what they did. The job was quick, very little interruption to my household, and to pay just only a $100 deductible was a whole lot better than $1,200. I would tell others if at all possible to get AHS because the others that I've investigated do not go to the extent. AHS does.

Also, I thought they're 24-hour and 7 days a week but if something breaks down on a Saturday, I have to wait two or three days to get it fixed and I don't like that. I had an AC issue that happened on a Sunday and I thought they would somebody out that evening. But the contractor, Mike's Clean Air, called me early Monday morning and they came out that afternoon. American Home Shield's service, getting stuff worked on, and getting things looked at have been really spectacular. But the incidentals of things that are mandatory to do a repair should be covered as well as the labor and the main components. That totaled up to be 1,800 for me out of pocket to get the air conditioning unit fixed. I'm not very happy about that. I'm a disabled vet and that took nearly all of my savings that I had built up.
The other thing is American Home Shield is utilizing people for customer service that have absolutely no clue as to what's going on, except for reading off of the paperwork that's given to them to answer a question. I almost have to demand that they call the vendor to get some answers. When customer service does call, they ask the wrong questions. I would have to go back after the phone call and correct everything that they were supposed to ask with the vendor myself.
When they can answer a question, they try to prolong my agony and almost refuse to escalate it up to a manager as I asked them to. Because they don't understand the question, they don't understand what I'm asking. Even though I explain it to them six times, they keep reverting back to, "This is what the installer says that you need to have. And it's gonna cost this much money," instead of, "You need to call the vendor and find out what the cost is gonna be for this because they made a mistake and they shouldn't be charging you an additional 500 or $600."
A lot of times, you can't even understand the calls. With one call I had, I heard chickens in the background. In another one, I heard roosters crowing in the morning when the rep trying to talk and there were kids in the background. That was very unprofessional for a company that's as large as American Home Shield. Customer service speaks very broken English and they don't understand simple questions. I also never got a call back from a manager at stateside.

I'm frying here in the house. And you're asking me to wait three weeks?". They said, "Well, that's the only thing we can do." I wasn't happy so I got somebody on my own. I paid from my own pocket for that. Also, every time I submit something, they say that it's not covered in my policy and the rep cannot tell me anything until somebody diagnoses my issue and finds out what's the problem. Other than that, my second experience was very good. They did not wait that long to send somebody. The tech described the problem and he said he will submit it. Overall, American Home Shield has been very effective in getting the repairs done. There have been some challenges in trying to make sure that we get the proper repair guy to be able to come out. But in the past three times, there has not been an issue at all. The washing machine that we have is manufactured by Bosch, and it's kind of a higher-end machine. Among the people in this area that are employed by American Home Shield to work on washing machines, there are only two companies that work on them. We found that out when they sent their first technician to come by, and he was unable to do anything. So, we've had to be very specific about letting them know that it’s the Sears repair person and the repair company that has the qualified technicians to repair the Bosch. Once we were able to get that information across they were able to schedule Sears to come.

Our house has three air conditioning units, and there was a 5-ton that wasn't working. American Home Shield sent out Air Dynasty and they were professional. The initial defect in the unit they said was the evaporator coil was no longer working, and AHS would cover that. The unit's five years old and they said they had to bring it to code. By the time that was done, it was gonna be $2,300 then there was a long conversation about replacing the condenser unit as well. The prices that Air Dynasty was first quoting were exorbitant and I ended up paying and getting a new unit from them. I got frustrated. It had been two weeks since we had air conditioning, and I just wanted it done.
I have no idea what American Home Shield is paying in this, and Air Dynasty said, "We would not give you this new unit for this price if you weren't working through American Home Shield." I have no way of corroborating that though. One of the problems with these warranty companies is you don't have very much transparency of what cost they're covering. You also have no way of vetting whether or not who they send out is reputable. I've had other calls with American Home Shield for my electrical box. They come in, I pay the $70 fee, and done. For the air conditioner though, I am not convinced that there is any value.
I've had to go through them three times now for my air conditioner. We have Puron and the per pound cost for refrigerant to buy it is six to seven times higher than what you can get if you're to source it yourself. I have no way of proving this, but I always wonder if the price is so high up, whether or not there's some type of kickback mechanism. I've dealt with three different air conditioner people now, and they've all charged either $50 or $60 per pound, where online I could get it for $9 to $10. I don't know why there's such uniform pricing in the refrigerant. These guys are supposed to be independent contractors.

But initially, AHS was going to send someone out that didn't have a real good Better Business Bureau report. So, I asked them not to send that person and to send the people that came since their credit bureau report was really good.
I also had a washer issue going on where the techs had to order different parts and come back different times, but they got it done and they just kept coming until everything was completed. Aside from that, whenever I had claims, AHS had been prompt and they'd let me know who was coming. I have a two-story house and I have one toilet at the top and one at the bottom. A company came and they checked the toilet in the bottom that was leaking. They said they did whatever they could but couldn't figure out how it leaked. I called Home Shield and told them that I found out how the leaks happened. They said that when a Rooter guy comes, I was to let him know how the bottom one was leaking. The Rooter guy told me he would try to do the best he could to take a quick look at this toilet. He looked at the bottom toilet and removed it. He replaced the old one and secured it more against the wall so there is no more leak. He then went upstairs and took care of the toilet there that also had a lot of issues with leaks. He took care of both my toilets one time and right now, everything’s functioning great.
Home Shield is great but they have some concerns. If something looks slightly damaged, they try to fix them first. If they can't fix them then they will replace them. But there are some things they do not replace. I also wish Home Shield has some satellite offices somewhere around the area, so they will be familiar with who a good contractor and a bad contractor is. Another complaint I have about Home Shield is when I went on the email, there was no phone number. I like calling Home Shield and placing my service order. I had to go all the way to the end of email and found the number. Thank goodness I can call them direct.
Home Shield can say, "Do it by email, which is a lot quicker," or “Call this toll-free number so and so, so you could place your service orders out." That would get more requests that way because there are a lot of seniors like me who do not like to be looking through the computer device. Other than that, I tell people about Home Shield and the houses that have them. I have some have good expenses here but I have no problem with my home warranty because I trust them and that's why I have them on my house.

The oven fan was making a noise and needed to be replaced. CK Appliance came out and they ordered it through American Home Shield. At the beginning of August, it was available, then it was pushed out to the middle of September. Another thing was an issue with my stovetop. One of the burners wasn't igniting and CK Appliance came out. They thought it was one piece and they ordered that and it came in a week. They came back and fixed it and it turned out it needed an additional part. They submitted that to American Home Shield and it took American Home Shield a week and a half to even submit the part for ordering.
I kept calling them asking what was going on and customer service said they would get back to me in 24 hours. But no one ever got back to me and I never heard anything. I found out two weeks later that the part didn't exist anymore. It wasn't available so they were going to offer me money to replace the stovetop and said I’d get an email. I never got that email and I still haven't gotten that email. They dragged it out so long that I couldn't even get it replaced. What made it worse is that I'm moving. I ended up having to give the people who were buying my home a credit rather than just getting those fixed and replaced through my American Home Shield policy.
Up until this, I was always okay with American Home Shield. They always send people out to do the service. But they really don't help you. They replaced my microwave, which was not the easiest product process. They just said, “Here's money. Go find your own product.” When you sign up, everyone's all great in the sales department. But when you call customer service, everything is a call center so they generally don't have the resources. They're doing the best they can with what they're being told. But you have to speak to a supervisor and there's not a supervisor. You just can't get the information.

He did the thermostat and checked the unit outside. He checked the front and downstairs. He did a lot. He said he was doing something to the control and that was it. He did what he could and he just left. I'm hot as hell. Make sure that the tech communicates with you.

The icemaker controller was making ice even after I cut the control switch off. American Home Shield dispatched Perez Appliance Repair. The tech was very courteous and very professional. He checked out the unit and told us what part he needed. He reinstalled a computer panel that was causing a problem and the icemaker seems to be doing well. Sometimes, just calling people in right away may cost a lot out of the pocket and AHS covers as far as securing the work needed to be done. It's a monthly fee to cover and have you insured at all times and we recommend that to all our friends.

I've been pretty happy with American Home Shield so far. They had the best value for the price point and their enrollment process was simple. I had my house rekeyed, which was very easy. We also had a plumber come in, and we've had a dishwasher repairman come by. Everything has been pretty quick. The people that have come over have been professional. The only one that didn't fix it himself was the dishwasher repairman, but he found out that there was a leak. So, then I called the plumber to fix the leak. It ended up being exactly what he thought was the problem, so it worked out.
Thanks for sharing your feedback. We are working to improve the overall customer experience. Thanks for your patience during this process.

I recently had a water leak in the hot water line and American Home Shield didn't get one assigned for about four days. Then once they got it, I got a phone call, and the tech came in 45 minutes. He crawled underneath my house. This past winter, my heat pump went out and it took a while to get that fixed. But overall, American Home Shield is nice to have especially with expensive stuff.

I was a little concerned at first when I realized that my refrigerator couldn't be rehabilitated. I called to report that and the person who answered the phone spoke such poor English that I was not able to understand what she asked me. When I finished with that call, I felt upset and helpless. However, Wright Appliance in Mineral Wells, Texas called me and said that they spoke with American Home Shield and that they were working on a resolution for my issue and getting me a replacement. I felt better.
A few days later, I received a communication asking me how I wanted to finish up the deal, whether I wanted to get the replacement that they chose or if I wanted to get a gift certificate or a check for the amount that they had determined. I thought they were treating me fairly. But there wasn't anything that showed me what amount of money they were willing to pay. I went on to the next step after that, saying I chose to check. It showed the amount and I decided that that was a very fair amount. Overall, aside from the experience I had with the first woman I had contact with, it has been a satisfactory experience. AHS had Wright Appliance call me and my experience with them has been very satisfactory. I would recommend them. They've chosen wisely in getting Wright Appliance to be their repair representative.

RMB came out and put a new garage door opener. This claim with American Home Shield was a walk in the park. My previous one was a nightmare. It was for an oven wall combination, and they ended up buying me out. I sent in all the information. The offshore customer service was a joke. They told me several times the check was on the way. I finally called the people that did the paperwork on doing the cash out. I'm not prejudice. I know why they offshore to do stuff but I never got a straight answer from them. The people at the appliance center were all very forthcoming and truthful.
AHS finally did send a check. It was the wrong amount, after they'd been expressively told what the amount was. My receipts justified that. It took me about 65 days and 9 hours on the phone to finally get paid. It was a nightmare. This latest claim was really easy and a good experience. There are terrible stuff about Home Shield, yet they're still rated one of the more highly ones. So, that tells me all the other ones are even worse.

The air conditioner wasn’t blowing any air. Frog Pro Services was excellent. The man who came out explained what he was doing. He checked and made sure everything was in working condition and explained to me that they needed to get things done on time. Even the owner of the company called me just to follow up. He said, “I just want to check and make sure that you were satisfied and that everything got covered.” I said, “Yes. Thank you. I appreciate you.”
However, it was a jerk that came for my shower. He didn't even fix it. I'm still pissed about that because they charged me a service fee that I still haven't gotten back. He lied and said somebody came out in Central Ohio Maintenance. They were coming out to fix whatever the converter is in the wall. The guy would have had to put on a whole new shower thing because the knob that turns it on broke off. He also told American Home Shield that we had a family friend try to fix it and took pieces with him. But there were no pieces missing. It was cracked and it just broke completely in half. That was why AHS denied the claim and we had to pay out of pocket for that.
He didn't even have the decency. He said, “I'm going to order that part and get back with you.” Then American Home Shield didn't even call us to follow up to say, “Hey, your claim is being denied because the contractor said, X, Y and Z.” They didn't even follow up with us. Right now, with the way that I feel about my shower and having to come out of pocket about $450, I'm very dissatisfied. That was ridiculous. If I paid for a home warranty, I shouldn't have had to come out of pocket like that.

If we call, American Home Shield will tell us who is gonna be the service company. They also provide us the phone number, so if we don't hear back from that company, then we can call them ourselves. Recently, we requested for service and the repair company called us ahead to see what the problem was. They asked us to take a picture, so that they knew that they would come with the part instead of coming, checking out the issue and then having to come back another day with the part, which some people do. This repair company was very good. They came with the part and it was fixed immediately. It was the housing in the pool heater. We have the very nice package where we have to pay extra, but we get a lot of things covered. Some things won't be covered, and that's what people need to really check on the fine details of what their policy says.

My mom has always been able to call American Home Shield. She has dementia now so she can’t manage those things but she never had any difficulty with submitting a claim to them. They've always made it very simple for her to have someone come out, which was the whole reason we got them in the first place. AHS has been good for us. It makes things a little easier. Getting contractors in Idaho is not easy. There's not a lot of choices and when you get ahold of somebody, they're extremely booked. AHS cuts through the middleman and you get a lot of local people that you may not have thought about or had experience with. It’s been a great experience with the contractors. They’ve explained things when they’ve come out as to what they thought was the issue and explained choices. So, it's always been a positive contact.
Thanks for letting us know how everything is going so far. Taking care of our members is the main goal here at AHS. I am glad that you were happy with your experience up to this point.

I've had American Home Shield for years. I moved from a different city, had them there and never had a problem with them. But I had one problem out here because I moved to the country. When you're in the country, a lot of the people that are going to come give you service have to travel from an hour to an hour and a half away. Dealing with some country people, their schedule runs a little bit different. American Home Shield still finds somebody to come work on what I need, but it sometimes takes a little bit of time to get with some of the people. But the process with American Home Shield is easy enough. If I have multiple things like three plumbing items versus if it's just one item, then I get online and knock it out real fast. You can put multiple claims if it's in the same area. If it's just the garage door won't close, I don't need to call them. I can just go online and knock it out real quick.
They're always helpful and send me something either text or email and tell me who is assigned to the claim. Most of the time, the people are good about calling within the next day or the same day. I only had one person from the country who said, "No. You can't call us. We still need to process it." A week later, they finally called me. I also learned early on not to get in and try to fix anything if you're going to call American Home Shield because if you open something up, they're not going to fix it.
One of my sons just bought a house and I told him to use American Home Shield. Most of the time, they fix everything. I've had electrical, an AC, a garage door and appliances that went out and they all knocked it out. Sometimes one contractor comes out and says, "Here's what's wrong. We need to order the part," then a different guy comes out. The first guy that came out said, "I'd recommend you spend extra money to get it all tuned up," and when the next guy came out, he said, "No, you don't need that." I've had one try to sell me stuff we didn't need. There was one negative experience with American Home Shield out here in the country. When we first bought the house, there were several plumbing issues and on some of them, they said, "We're not going to cover that because the contractor said it was due to owner neglect." We had just bought the house, so we haven't neglected anything.

We had a refrigerator leak, and the guy that came out through American Home Shield got us up and running very quickly. When I was told I was going to pay 75 bucks, that sounded like a scam. I don't know anything about owning a home but every time a guy came to my apartment to do something under the sink or with the toilet, it was always certainly over $100 every time. I said, "The 75 bucks, it’s just fake. That means they’re gonna come out and that's what you're paying for 75 bucks is they're gonna come out and talk to you. And then that's the beginning of a process. Then the next visit is what costs the real money.” But this was $75. The guy came out and he fixed the thing.
The guy couldn't get hot water to do some part of his fixing. He said, "Oh, you know what? I don't think you guys turned on your hot water heater yet. It's okay. I know how to do this stuff." So, he turned on my hot water heater. He went, "You probably don't want this. You probably want that. This is good." I was like, "I don't know what the hell you're talking about. But I will blow out my house if I tried to do what you're doing.” He's a nice guy. He was talking about the hike behind my house. He said, "There's a beautiful hike here." We started talking about Stephen King because he said there's a thing up there that looks like Pet Sematary. It was fun. It was like who the hell talks to their repairman about novels? It was really enjoyable. I walked away with a running refrigerator and my hot water whatever thing was functioning now, which it wasn't before. He did a great job. I'm very happy with the whole experience.

When any of the major things go wrong, you're going to put out some money but you're not going to have to pay the full cost when you have a home warranty. It's going to be less of a hit. Your home warranty is also going to direct you to a person who is reputable and knows what they are doing so you don't have to try and find a service provider yourself. I used my home warranty for a rekey and someone came out in 72 hours. He was wonderful and he rekeyed the doors.

This policy came with the house that I purchased and when I had the problem, AHS called up right away and set up an appointment. The plumber was very professional. He got it done. This is the first incident and the first time I'm ever using a home warranty. There was a leak from the upstairs bathtub. So, PHD Mechanical came, tore up the sheetrock, got in there, found the problem, patched it up and fixed it. Now, there's a continuation on it because American Home Shield has to find someone else to come and patch up the sheetrock. AHS set it up with the company and I talked to the rep this morning and he told me to send him a picture. And I did so they know what they're looking for. The guy said that they would do a rough patch on the sheetrock but they wouldn't sand it and come back for a second one. I asked what I was supposed to do about that. That doesn't complete the job.
The guy said that for $85, they’ll come back a second time. It has to be sanded and he said that they don’t do that. It still leaves me with having to pay for paint. Paint is different although the service should still cover that too because if you want to put it back the way it was, it should be put back the way it was. But eliminate the paint, I'm still stuck putting a second coat myself, which I'm not a professional or I have to pay $85 for him to come back for the second coat. But then, I would still have to sand it and then paint it. So, I'm not happy about that part because that doesn't complete the job. The sheetrock place is saying that the warranty does not cover that. When the guys came, the service was exactly what they said they were going to do. They spackled the hole and I have to pay to get the next spackle done and then paint. So, I'm not happy with that.

For our recent claim with AHS, the dishwasher stopped working in the middle of a cycle and it didn't sound good. The tech could have come out the same day. He called that afternoon after I submitted the request. We just weren't home. So, he came the next morning. However, there was nothing he could do. He said it wasn't financially smart to fix. It would probably cost way more to fix it than it would to buy a new one 'cause the motor was seized. Then, there was something else that he said he would have to repair as well. He said by the time he does that, it'll be a new dishwasher. It was also so old, he couldn't get parts for it. He just said he would submit that and then we would have to go to the next step.
We logged in to our account online Monday morning to see if there was any update but it just said that our original request was closed. So, I called and the rep said it wasn't really closed, it's just he had come out and was done with that visit and they were waiting supposedly for the formal diagnosis from the Optimum Appliance Repair guy. Then, she said we were supposed to get an email.
There was nowhere on the online account on our account with the original request that said, "Here's the next step, we're waiting." It didn't have any status that could have just said, "Waiting for the diagnosis." We haven't been contacted by them since Friday to tell us what the next step is, or you can't just go on there and see what the next step is. So, I wasn't overjoyed because I still don't have a dishwasher.

I told American Home Shield that wasn't gonna work so they went ahead and swapped me with somebody else, and I was able to get some assistance right away.
When my icemaker wasn’t making ice, the technician showed up more or less around the time he had stated and replaced the part. It didn't take too long for him to complete the job. However, at one point, there was a faucet outside that I thought was gonna be covered but American Home Shield doesn't cover outside items. Also, I was on a certain plan where my rate was lower than what I'm paying right now. Upon completion of the year, my rate went up. I had discussed that with somebody at American Home Shield and I was hoping that I could go back to my previous rate. Somebody was supposed to reach out to me, but I haven't heard anything as of yet.
