We have been with American Home Shield for quite a long time, and a lot of times, I do it online if we have a claim. Recently, our air conditioner went out and it was 100 degrees. My husband has health issues, and none of the contractors were going to be available for a week or two. American Home Shield authorized us to use a contractor of our choosing, but we would have to pay for it, then they’d reimburse us. So we did that.
It's been close to a month ago that this has happened, and we've been in touch with American Home Shield. My husband has been the one that has been communicating with them more than myself, and this morning, he finally talked to someone that was very knowledgeable. Supposedly, they're going to reimburse us. Otherwise, we've had wonderful service with American Home Shield. Sometimes though, it's very difficult to understand some of the customer service reps when I call in for questions. Still, having a home warranty saves a lot of money if you have things go wrong. It's like a car insurance policy. You hope you don't need to use it, but when you do, it's nice to have it.

I put in a claim for the air handler. There was some sort of a solenoid that burned out and consequently, the compressor was not sending coolant to the air handler. The tech came out and he worked on that. Then he came back out and got it fixed. It's still working good. The same guy who came out and replaced both of our air handlers and handled other associated repairs did a good job.
The only thing with American Home Shield is that when you have to make a call, you end up being on hold and my beard grows while I’m on hold sometimes. Also, most of the people at their answering center are clearly Indian. So you know you're not talking to somebody next door. But I've only had one person that I talked to that was almost impossible to understand. Then I got her to talk slowly enough that we managed to figure it out. One time, they sent out a contractor that wasn't licensed to do the repair that needed to be done in the state where we needed to have it done. But then the next guy that they sent out took care of it. American Home Shield generally come through on everything that we’ve needed to have fixed. Sometimes it may have taken a little longer, but it’s reasonable.

We had a stove malfunction and we needed a new one. The only thing that we didn't like about the service was that they gave us a list of stoves to pick out from. We picked one and then they said it was out of stock. My whole house was stainless and they shipped me a bright white stove that didn't match anything. So I had an argument with the guy on the phone and my wife told me she would deal with it. They made us pay a restocking fee on something that we never really ordered which was wrong.
At the end of the day, I ended up buying my own stove that was a couple hundred dollars over what they allowed and they reimbursed us a part of it. I'm a guy that can get upset and get all right in the same conversation as long as everything gets worked out. AHS did a good job. The issue got handled just not in the way it should have. But they've been good with everything else.

A plumber came to repair a spigot that was leaking. He diagnosed it and fixed it very quickly. As soon as he got approval from American Home Shield, he was on his way. He was not at all disruptive. I enrolled with American Home Shield in October of 2021 and I've been very satisfied since. I've put in other claims which I canceled because it seemed that the problem resolved itself. But for the plumbing piece, I've had two instances where I've had people come out. The first was in March or April when I had someone come and repair my boiler. That was a very good service too.
I had separate warranties on appliances and I always went with Sears. They were always very good with servicing any appliance that I had. I had a dishwasher and they came out and fixed it eight times. Finally, I ended up with a new one. It's advantageous to the homeowner to have something that they can fall back on. You don't wanna be caught in the dead of winter with a boiler that's not working. You don't wanna be caught in a situation where your water heater goes and you have to fix it today. Having this home warranty available is very helpful.

We had American Home Shield for 20 years in our old house. We just moved into this new house and got a new policy. We continued with the home warranty because we've got our money's worth out of it. We had a couple of appliances worked on. The washing machine had a torn liner and the door was leaking. As for the dishwasher, the hinges were broken. The repair was slow and it took over a month to get it done because of the waiting for parts to come in. Other than that, I would recommend American Home Shield.

I was with American Home Warranty, and I paid $500 for different things to get fixed. To this day, they have my money, and they never came and fixed my stuff. A friend told me about American Home Shield and said that 99% of home warranties are not worth it, but this one was. So far, it's true. My dishwasher broke, and the claims process was really easy. I also like the quality of people that they send and the quickness and response.
When I call, I get somebody assigned pretty quickly, and the person who's assigned has been assigned to all of mine so far. It's a local company out here, and I like supporting a local company that is good at what they do. I have the guy's text number too. He said, “Hey, text me when your dishwasher gets there, and I will have someone come install it the very next day.” I said, “Okay, awesome. Thank you so much.” All in all, I'm happy with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield should be more upfront about what you have to pay out of your pocket. They oughtta try to carry a lot of the weight of whatever you need done. I'm paying them $60 a month, and then there are times when I don't need anything. But to me, everything should have been paid for if I need something. American Home Shield did pay for some of the small things. When I had a claim for the garbage disposal, I paid them 100, and then the contractor came and did the rest. But for something major, like the water heater and the air conditioner, I came out of pocket and I was caught off guard. For the air conditioner, they only paid 10 cents per pound of the refrigerant. I paid about 800 and they only paid about 100. The rep said they paid for labor. With the water heater, I ended up paying about 800 for it. They did purchase the water heater, but I paid to have it installed. That was a bit much.

American Home Shield has been very good. Their technicians have been very professional and they explain what they are doing. They are not necessarily always on time, but traffic coming up to this area can be a little heavy. My ice maker stopped working back in October. We had someone come out repeatedly replacing different parts until they had replaced everything in the freezer area. But it still wouldn't make ice. So, they gave me an online gift card to put towards another refrigerator. I recommend AHS to anyone who owns a home.

The AC was not working. The contractor came out and checked it out. They said the coil was frozen. So they turned it off, thawed it out, and washed down the thing. They came outside and then, they went and came in and said, "Everything should be okay." They put Freon in and said, "Everything should be okay." But a couple of days later, I found out that the AC was still not working. So we called back and then they sent out the same guys again. They went through the same rigmarole and said that it should be okay. Then they said they called their master technician, so he came out and found that there were some wires that needed to be fixed that were shorting.
When they came a second time, they said, "We can't get it started again." Then they turned off the box, turned it back on, and it started. So they didn't see the wire that was faulty. The master technician looked through everything. He said the pipe from the air conditioner to the bathroom was clogged. So he attempted to clean it out. He also worked on a few things up there to make sure that the thing was running properly. A few days later, we realized that the clog was not draining. So he came back and he said he was going to do a $400 fix, which would be replacing the piping that goes from the air conditioner to the sink. But after a few days, he realized that he had another alternative way he could do it. So he did that. But yesterday, we noticed that there's a leak in the kitchen. This is a new thing. The leak is showing in the ceiling in the kitchen. So I'm thinking that it's still not fixed.

American Home Shield has been good. It gives me the peace of mind that if something goes out, I can get it fixed. I haven't had that many claims, so I don't know if I'm coming out financially ahead or not, but I like to think I am. My last service call was over a washing machine that wasn't responding to the controls. We had a company called A & E come out and they replaced the control panel and said, “Oh, it’s working,” and left. It didn't work and we got the guy to come back. He put one of the old pieces back on, said, “It's working now,” and left. When we tried it again, it still wouldn't work, then my wife tried to call him to get him to come back. This has been going on for over a week. My wife wasn't happy and they weren't happy and said they weren't coming back.
American Home Shield reassigned the job to Sears and we really liked them, but it took them three times to finally get our washing machine fixed. So, we've had a total of five visits for one deal. Sears was really good to deal with, but A & E was not. Also, American Home Shield has been great for us other than sometimes I get some people on the phone that I don't understand very well because of the language barrier. I have to really concentrate to understand what some of them are saying.

We were having plumbing issues and we were having our HVAC inspected, and it took a while to figure out what was happening. One of the contractors didn't show up at the time they were supposed to, and we had to wait until we heard from that contractor instead of being able to move the process along. Still, the claims process went smoothly. There was a lack of responsiveness for a tiny bit, but we were able to get that resolved. The technicians were good as well. The plumbing issues were resolved, but with the replacement HVAC, we haven't finished that part yet. Also, I would like better tracking when American Home Shield is the one sending out equipment to the servicing company. That would be really nice. Otherwise, the service has been pretty good so far. We've had previous repairs for the old furnace’s fan too.

I like my policy with American Home Shield. I know who to call if something goes wrong. I put in a service request and they send someone out. One contractor they sent was Express Appliance and they did my refrigerator that was not keeping cold. It was not coming on at all. The technician was nice and professional. He started working and explained everything he was doing. He wasn't able to fix the refrigerator but he at least attempted. The refrigerator was replaced and I received it yesterday. On the whole, I was out of a refrigerator for over a month. It was just waiting on someone to come and fix it, waiting on a part to come in, waiting on them to determine that they couldn't fix it, and then just ordering a part.
The only issue I had was when I put in a claim to get my air conditioner serviced prior to summer. Techs came out, looked at it, and they said everything was okay. But I had to call back once it was time to use it, which was a month later, because the air conditioner wasn't working. I had to pay again for the same company to come out and put Freon in it, which I'm sure was the problem the first time.

The refrigerator was not cooling. Once I registered the service request with AHS, I got an email confirmation showing who it was that was being assigned to me. I was given a contractor who gave me eight days from when I put it in. I called AHS because I couldn't do it online and said it was not acceptable. There was a lot of back and forth. Also, the call center personnel were not good. They were all offshore and very difficult to understand. Every time I said something, they had to repeat it back to me. It was very arduous and not a good experience. They put me on hold an awful lot of times. The whole transaction on the phone took me an hour. The other crazy thing was the guy was trying to get me to do a video diagnostic. Told me, that for $10 more, they could do a video diagnostic and it would be quicker.
They also told me they assigned D & G Appliance and they were available the next day. With this contractor, it was very good. The techs called before to tell me they were on their way and the guy was very good. Came in for his duties and did a good job determining what the problem was. They had to order parts, but they kept me informed when the parts arrived and scheduled promptly for a follow-up visit to do the installation. Everything looks good right now.

Our air conditioner claim to American Home Shield was fine except it needed a little something else that wasn't approved. It's an older unit and it had a crack in it, and the tech said he had to replace the evaporator coil and apparently, that's not covered. American Home Shield said it was normal wear and tear. Our experience has always been fine. Submitting a claim goes reasonably smooth. But if you're trying to call them, sometimes it's very hard to get through. Also, I wish they had someone more local. Sometimes you get places far away and so, calling is more difficult. You do better by emails. We really like the tech from JC Appliance Repairs. He's closer and local. But he's just so busy. He needs to hire somebody to intercept his call and keep people informed.
Our Sub-Zero is torn up right now and it's been a month that we’re out of fridge. Our service guys don’t communicate real well. I’ve got three homes on American Home Shield - a rental property, my in-laws', and my personal home. Everybody they have sent to my personal home has been really good and the ones they've sent out to my tenants have been professional. But when appliances have gone out, it seems like it's never covered. It feels like using American Home Shield is tacking on another $75 to $100 on the cost of replacing the appliance.
Other than that, I had a claim for the garage door at the duplex not too long ago and the tech was a really nice guy. I appreciated it. It turned out to be a really small issue that took them like a minute to fix. He also programmed something for us and he did that without any extra charge. I like that anytime I filed a claim to American Home Shield, they got right on it but they have not fixed my hot water tank and they're not getting any more of my money. The techs came out originally for a blockage, which was covered. They opened the blockage but then, I was continuing to have something go on with the same pipe. Come to find out there was a split in my sewer pipe. They had to come back out to look at that and HM did a good job. They fixed it. American Home Shield did not cover any of that though. It was like $2,000 on me.
I first filed my hot water tank claim on October 21st of 2021. They said Rush Plumbing was coming. Nobody showed. So, I resubmitted and on December 21st, Rush Plumbing finally showed up. The tech said his mother passed, which is understandable. He said I needed a new hot water tank. He took down all the information and said he'd be back in a week. I've still not seen him again. I had text messages from him admitting that he never came back. At one point, I got AHS to change to a different plumber, and then they retracted it because that guy called them and said the thing was complete. It's not been completed.

The condenser and compressor locked up in one of AC units. I called in an emergency claim and AHS couldn't get somebody out 'til Monday. But AHS never notified me. I had to call them on Thursday and they told me that the claim was denied. They said that because the compressor was not functional before my contract date started, they wouldn't cover it. I don't understand that when being in Texas, why would I wait a whole week to call and say my air conditioner broke.
I called and they said, “Okay. You know what? What we'll do is we will send out a second opinion. And if the second opinion is the same, then you have to pay an additional $125 to get it fixed. They sent another technician and he said the compressor is no good because it keeps tripping my breaker. He wrote everything up and the contractor said, "Yeah, it shouldn’t be covered by American Home Shield.” American Home Shield said the same thing to me. We've been without air conditioning for about two weeks yesterday. At this point, I'm just gonna cancel my contract. What am I paying for if they're not going to keep their end of the bargain? Lately it takes forever to get someone out to the house. Also, some things are covered but some others probably should have been. The pool part that was broken was not covered. That was a little frustrating. A year or two ago, we had the heater go out on our pool. That covered the cost that I was putting out. But the last couple of times, we had a problem with our washing machine. AHS sent someone out three times, but they still haven't replaced the unit. They just kept on sending someone out to fix it. That was frustrating, because it was a month without a washing machine. They wouldn't just pay to replace it, they wanted to fix it.
AHS ended up replacing the main brain on it, that essentially it's a brand-new washer in a non-brand-new washer body. They spent all that money, but wouldn't replace the whole thing. I could have paid a repairman to come out here three different times and get my little $14 part. So, having AHS hasn't been worth it within the last year.

But American Home Shield keeps telling me that they're waiting on the electrician to send the report. I'm thinking if the electrician has not sent the report in all this time, more than likely, she's not gonna send it. She was good, but it seems she's really slow with following up.
I'm back and forth with American Home Shield. Every time I've called about my issues, they called the electrician. She's answered a couple of times and promised to send the report. But then American Home Shield doesn't get it. I'm so frustrated. If one company is not doing something, American Home Shield should send somebody else out. But they keep saying they've got to send the same person. If that person is not doing their job, they should move on.

My husband is in the military and has received official DoD orders for us to relocate across country. As such, we are in the process of selling our home. I called AHS to terminate our home warranty, because they do not allow you to terminate service online... The process goes like this: you call, wait on hold, then get transferred around to a few departments, until you finally reach the Cancellation Department. There is apparently only one person who works in this department, he does not have a supervisor, and he has all the power.
After explaining my situation, he asked if I wanted to transfer our service to our new home; I do not want to transfer service because a home warranty is included in the purchase of our new home. He then asked if I wanted to transfer service to the people who are buying our home; Again, a home warranty is included for the people buying our home and they specifically requested a different company. Apparently he was displeased with this, so he told me that I would incur a "cancellation fee". I explained that he cannot charge us a cancellation fee per the Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act. He refused to acknowledge this. I asked for his supervisor and he told me that he does not have one.
After realizing that this person is unwilling to work with me, I told him to just cancel my policy and I will contest the charge with my credit card company. He then informed me he will be assessing an additional "administrative fee" against my account. I told him again that I would just contest those charges as well. He then started demanding my authorization for these additional charges against my card on file, or he cannot cancel my policy. By the time I ended our phone call, he still refused to cancel my policy. Immediately after, I called my credit card company and had them block this merchant from initiating charges against my card. Buyer beware!

My refrigerator wasn't cooling. I did a claim online and that was easy. It pretty much gives you the options then after you click one option, it gives you more coverage. This online claim option is more convenient. After I made the claim, I started getting emails confirming dates. The contractor called me also to double check on the date. The people that came out were professional. They checked the refrigerator, ordered parts then came back and repaired it. I've been recommending American Home Shield and two of my sister-in-law's friends subscribed.

In our recent claim with AHS, the techs found that there was no Freon in our air conditioner. They refilled the Freon. They were suspecting a leak, so they put the dye and they said that, in the next call, they will come and try to figure out where the leak is. The contractors of AHS are good and professional. However, they seem busy. When I talked to one of the customer representatives of AHS, they said that they would call me back after talking to the contractors. I waited for three days, but I never received a call. I called AHS again. The second time I called, AHS opened a ticket. After that, I received a call the next day from the contractor. I wanted to get that visit quickly as soon as possible, but the next available was Wednesday or Thursday. So, we went with Thursday.

It's been mostly good with Home Shield. Although sometimes, there's a disconnect between what Home Shield offers and what the vendors' responsibilities are. But they're nothing that hasn't been worked out. It's not smooth sometimes but it's just working it through with the vendor. We were having a lot of problems with our air conditioner and every time I submit a ticket, Home Shield assigns a different company. It would be good to have continuity of business with one vendor. I have to go and contact Home Shield and we have to work it out. Then, I'll get called by the one company that I'm not going to do business with and then have to go back to the other company. Having AHS is convenient. My washing machine stopped working and the pump was out. The techs came right away. They had to order a pump and another part because the washing machine was leaking out the front. They came out on a Friday, and then the next Friday, they fixed it. Their contractor L and S was perfect, but I requested them. I have had a vendor come out the first time I ever called for plumbing that I wasn't happy with. The same thing happened with the drain clogged again. When I called the second time to request someone, I requested that that vendor not come out. So, the vendor they sent out then was really good and I had no problems.
AHS should look for local vendors instead of vendors that are far away. They always send me a vendor who is two hours away and who has to drive that far which is ridiculous. Also, when I ask to have somebody close, it seems like they take the first person off the list and they don't investigate any further. That, I don't like.

Sierra Vista Electric came out for my ceiling fan that was making some noise. It didn’t cost me anything to have them take a look at it. They made an adjustment and were on their way. I’m about ready to re-up for my next home warranty. I’ll probably go with the same company, American Home Shield, because they have changed some things within the app. Trying to get service has been a lot better. Having American Home Shield, I can just make a call or go on my smartphone, put in the request, and it's painless. I like that process. The contractors are held accountable and that gives me a peace of mind. It’s worth the money I spent upfront. I wish the copay wasn’t as much though. There are other services who don’t charge as much for copay. But you get what you pay for. If the service is there, I wouldn’t mind it as much. If the service wasn’t there and there was no accountability, then I would have a big issue.
However, when you call American Home Shield's customer service, it's fragmented. When I had to deal with my pool, I would talk to one person, and this person had to wait to talk to this person. The timeliness of handling is one of their biggest issues. The communication stream is an issue too. I don’t know if they use an offshore resource for their communication, but it can be dicey. There's a language barrier and there's an issue with following through. This person should have the notes in the system, so this person can see. It shouldn’t have to go through all these different steps. That’s ridiculous.

With the air condition company, at first they came out and fixed the problem. They had to put a pusher on the compressor. But the pusher didn’t work. We called them back and said the pusher didn’t work. They said they would contact American Home Shield to see if they could order a new compressor. But we hadn’t heard anything. So, I went on AHS and hit the thing for that service part and said it still was not cooling. I tried to call the company back to see where it was at, but they weren’t answering their phone. So, I called AHS and asked if they could contact the company to see if we could get a status update, and it took a long time.
AHS finally got ahold of the company to say they had ordered the part on the fifth of July, and it was supposed to come in some time soon. We finally got a text from the company that said the part would come on Sunday. And they reached back out to AHS. Now, the part is not coming until the 31st July. It’s a 104 here in El Paso and the AC that has gone out is the upstairs AC. It’s horrible to sleep in. And because that AC is continuously running, and it's not running the compressor, it's just running a fan, the electric bill has gone up. How come it has been taking a long time to get ahold of that company? And how come they haven’t provided feedback? I tried to figure out. So, I contacted AHS and said, “Do I ask for another company to service us versus them because of the way they’re actually handling the situation?” It was terrible.
I recently contacted AHS by phone because I wanted to make sure what I read about the pool coverage was correct because to me, the wording was odd. I wanted to make sure, as far as the pump, because it says above-ground, inground. And I didn't know what it meant for the pump. So, I called and asked some more clarifying questions for the pump. True Blue made an appointment, came out, fixed the leak that was coming from the pool pump, and we were good to go.

Anything that's a big appliance, I have to wait month to month. Our cooler went out and the contractor came out and looked at it. They said they needed to replace it with a new one because the frame that holds the water was cracking. They went ahead and fixed it. They put it in fine. But it doesn't work as well as the old one does. The cooler is not as strong as my old one. My bedroom is not cold anymore. And we had to wait forever. I could have bought one and put it in four times between the time that I had to wait to get it. The contractor kept saying it was to be delivered by American Home Shield. It was five months. I asked the rep if could she locate anybody that could come sooner, and she said no. Also, American Home Shield takes the money right out your account before anybody even gets there, and we don't know if they're gonna do a good job. They put the money on hold, then once the work is done, they release it.
I gave American Home Shield 100, and the tech who came for the air conditioner was pretty good. However, he told me to get him an extra 100 because the one pound of Freon he had to put in wasn't covered. He told me I needed it, but he didn't fill it up. It was strange because I paid $500 for Freon two years ago and I thought Freon lasts long once you get it filled up. My dishwasher's door wasn't closing. The spring messed up from the door, so it wouldn't close. And it wasn't rinsing anymore. My appointment was set quickly. The tech was very friendly. He looked at it, spent a bit of time troubleshooting, and that was it. He said it would be expensive to fix it because there is a lot of moving pieces so that it would be more than what it was worth. And once he determined that the dishwasher would be able to be fixed, I got quick confirmation from AHS.
However, I was a bit upset because all of my appliances are KitchenAid and American Home Shield didn't have any of the KitchenAid ones on their website. I tried to look at Lowe's but I would end up having to pay $500 out of my pocket. AHs would give me $700 but the cheapest KitchenAid dishwasher was 1,200 and change. I would get free delivery from Lowe's, but I would still have to pay installation, which they wanted to charge me another 179. I'm buying the whole damn thing by myself. Plus, the 125 for the person who came to diagnose. That was a bit of a bummer. But it's what to expect, because KitchenAid is a higher end brand. I hate their appliances now. But I like to keep everything uniform.
So, I just went with a GE. They came to deliver it, and the hoses wouldn't fit. They weren't long enough. The contractor told me it wouldn't work so we needed to contact AHS to see if they could contact GE to get new hoses or we needed to buy them on our own. So, I contacted AHS and the representative told me that that was my expense, that they couldn't get me new hoses from GE. AHS only provided what came in the box. My husband freaked out. The hoses that are in the boxes are not even GE hoses. They're a third-party hose. My husband would have thought they would have been actual GE hoses, but they're not.
I called AHS and they said that I would have to do that out of my own pocket because they wouldn't provide any more service. So, I spent $60 on hoses. And I had to set up another appointment for someone else to come and install it. It's still sitting in my dining room. My husband went to Lowe's and got whatever we needed. I needed to call AHS back to set up another appointment to have another contractor come. So, a week later, here we are. AHS said a new contractor will come today.

I had three different claims. I had plumbing work issues, and the plumbing guy that came out here did great. I only had to wait a few days before he got the parts and came out here and fixed everything. The electrician guy was awesome too. There was an addition built in front of the house, which is why he came out here from the beginning. I went to try to take the excess walls down, and there were seven outlets all wired into one outlet from the main house. That just wasn't working. The electrician did all that work and asked me if I had any more issues. I said, “Not at the moment.” When the lady called me back and asked me how they did, I said they were great. She said, “Well, if you have any more issues, let me know.” I found there's an outlet that is just hanging out in the open with the wires in the closets and I have a four-year-old here. I thought, “Why would this be in a closet? I don't understand.” This house is really trippy.
Also, I might have to have the electrician come back out here, because recently, all of the lights in the house are starting to flicker, especially if a ceiling fan is connected to it. It's like it's getting a short. There's a ceiling fan in the living room, and the dining room has one as well. I can cut the ceiling fan off and just have the light on, and when I do that, the light bulbs just dim out. At first, I thought it was the light bulbs. I went and bought new light bulbs and started changing them all out because it'd be one room at first and then it went to a different room. It was left and right, and I thought, “Okay. Maybe all these light bulbs are old.” Now, the electricity is starting to mess up, and I'm worried about this house catching on fire.
I had an air conditioner unit issue too, and I told American Home Shield when I did the claim that the vent pieces all the way through the attic is decayed. When the air conditioner people came out, I got the gentleman to look at it. He took pictures, showed them to me and told me there were no signs of rodents up there. However, he only looked at one unit, so I have to pay another $85 and do another claim on the second air conditioner unit and the vent pieces through the attic. I shouldn't have to do that because I told American Home Shield from the beginning that there are two central air units in the house. The people that I talked to were really nice. They have really good people skills and they show concern, but I don't think that they're typing in the proper stuff that I'm trying to explain to them. I don't know much about HVAC and I'm not an electrician, either.
Another thing is I had issues with the HVAC people. The gentleman showed up early the first time. He contacted me, and I told him I was around the corner. I was coming, but he ended up putting a, “Sorry, I missed you” note on my door. My neighbor turned around and watched him leave, and not even two minutes after, I pulled up. I was really upset. I called the company and let them know what the HVAC guy did. The lady said, “Well, hold on. Let me try to get him to turn around.” When she called him -- and this all happened within 10 minutes -- he tried to tell her that he was all the way at Buffalo, which is over an hour away. He literally just left this house. There was no way he was that far unless he's got some kind of lead foot, and even then, he was liable to get pulled over because of all the cops that are out here.
I had to reschedule and I had to wait over three weeks to get them out here from the first time. American Home Shield ended up putting a rush on the company to come out here. They came out here a while ago and now they're telling me that they're not going to be able to fix anything until the 25th. The vent pieces are probably as old as the house, and this house was built in 1962. You can tell it's worn down and just terrible. It's not even silver anymore. Most of what you see is the insulation. So we're having problems breathing here, and I can't have the person I'm taking care of, Charles, come back from rehab until all this stuff is fixed, because there's no way he would make it in here, especially with him being on continuous oxygen. Plus, I have a disabled person in here that's asthmatic, and I'm asthmatic as well. The heat alone is terrible.
I talked to a lady through American Home Shield, and she told me she was going to try to get a different company out here. I said, “That would be great because these people don't know anything.” It's been a really hot mess, and midday, we suffer a lot. Our electricity bill first came in from some of the electrical work that American Home Shield did, and it's $750 for the first month, and there's no way it should be that high. Between these air conditioners trying to struggle and cool this house down, and the electrical work, it has put a damper on our power bill. Now I'm struggling to come up with $750 because I have until the 25th to pay that. American Home Shield really needs to get better companies to do work for them.

I have had American Home Shield after purchasing several investment properties as well as on my main house over the last several years. My complaint is 100% about their customer service people (not US based?) and their inability to do anything but read back a script, put you on hold to "check" on your issue, and then read back the same script when your 10 minute hold is over.
I have 3 AC units on my current house, and the mid sized one failed. After sending an unacceptable contractor for the initial claim, and a lot of arguing, they resent a different contractor (after I paid an additional $75). That contractor is scheduled to replace the unit tomorrow am. A second unit failed yesterday, but they assigned yet another contractor to evaluate that unit (who knows when they can be out) instead of the guy that will already be at my house tomorrow. No amount of logic would get their rep to change the assignment for the new claim to THEIR contractor that is already scheduled to be onsite. Absolutely Crazy runaround every time, on every claim.

My family and I have been continuously without air conditioning for almost a month this summer and have had to constantly follow-up with American Home Shield to try and find out the status of the repair and replacement of our air conditioning system as covered in our home warranty with them. We cannot get a consistent status at all - one person one day will say the new system has been delivered and ready to be scheduled for installation and 2 to 3 days later another American Home Shield Employee is telling us that it has not been ordered yet!!! They seldom if ever return calls and it has been impossible to reach someone higher up who can provide a truthful and factual explanation of why they have not repaired/replaced our system after all this time in this summer heat. This is absolutely the worst home warranty experience I have ever had!! Stay away from American Shield - they are completely unresponsive!!!

Last year, they sent someone to fix my fridge and they could not find the part. The techs said, "AHS is gonna give you $400 to order the new one." And then, I asked them, "Can you give me the money? Let me buy it." They said, "No, you have to give us the receipt. If you purchase, we will give you money." But didn't happen. Finally, I just decided to replace the fridge because no one would help me out.
Recently, the AC compressor wasn't working. It took two days for someone to come out for parts. But the technician was good. I like American Home Shield for peace of mind. I absolutely dislike American Home Shield to the point that I'm going to cancel it. There has been a request for more than three months now. I've called them so many times. They gave me a vendor who came to my house and nothing has happened so far. They kept telling me, “We’re escalating.” There was no response from the vendor. I paid 150 bucks, which is the fee so that at least I can get the service requests, but none of them has even reached out to me to know what's happening with that request. I've seen all the people have complained the same regarding the vendor. They come to your house and then they will just say they're gonna order some part and they will never show up. American Home Shield has one of the worst vendors in line. All the vendors are completely hopeless so there is no way I'm going to continue with their service. Say no to American Home Shield.

Having a home warranty is emotionally convenient. When I had a water heater that was leaking and causing an issue to the foundation, all I had to do was just call American Home Shield. They had a plumber come in and he checked it out, told me what needed to be done and did it. He was extremely professional. He explained the process and what something was for, what should be there and what was missing. It was a little process because we had to get a second contractor to rebuild because of the water damage. Everybody was busy and we barely just got it done. I called back yesterday to see when I can make an appointment for the contractors from Home Shield to make the repair, and they answered and made an appointment today. I'm extremely happy. So far, American Home Shield is great. This is the biggest thing I've ever done as a homeowner.

The cycle for rinsing of our machine would not assimilate and wouldn't work. It left me with a bucket of water and clothes sitting in the water. It was digital and when I get a code, it would drain the water out so I was never really getting a rinse. After making a claim with American Home Shield a gentleman from Runyon came and ran a diagnostic. He said that for what it would cost for them to send out a technician and repair the appliance with the part that was needed, it was just as much as purchasing a new appliance. The gentleman said it was not worth it. I was sent to Lowe's and I found a model that was different but the color was very close to what I had. I waited for it and that took two and a half months. The machine is new. It's nice and it's working. I'm happy with the machine because now we're back getting on schedule washing.

The biggest benefit of having a home warranty is if there's a breakdown in one of the appliances, it would get replaced for free per policy. American Home Shield's service so far is pretty good. We used it when the AC was not working and someone came out to fix something. I wasn't there but my tenant was. The unit worked after a few tries.
The only thing with the home warranty was I was hoping the deductible could be lower. When I have an issue and I call someone to see if they can get that fix, I know there's a deductible but a lot of us probably do not want to have to pay that deductible if the problem is not covered. When I called out for an electrician to come out to check my lights, they came but they said that my claim was not covered. I had to pay the $100 deductible anyways without anything getting fixed. After that, I had to call in my complaint and the $100 was refunded. I was hoping there's a way to find out for sure if something is covered or not before the tech comes out.

American Home Shield's service is horrible. The call center is terrible. I couldn't get a straight answer out of them. I get stuck in circles. I had a point a couple of weeks ago where I got so frustrated with them that I tried to escalate the issue and waited more than 24 hours for the escalation department to call me back. It happened last year when I was having issues with my refrigerator, where they sent out multiple repair people. Nobody could seem to diagnose or fix the issue and I was stuck in the middle. It took months and months before we finally were able to replace the refrigerator because it couldn't be repaired.
This year, the issue is with my air conditioner and they engaged a local contractor. The contractor came out, told me what the problem was, told me that AHS had this ProConnect program where I could have my entire system replaced at a significant discount. He sent me the ProConnect proposal. When I talked to the AHS customer service people, they said that he had never requested an authorization to release a proposal.
It took me a week to determine whether or not the ProConnect proposal I got from the contractor was legitimate. The contractor told me that AHS has no idea what they're doing and they never do. ProConnect has been good. But the call center I call into is awful. I couldn't get any good information out of them. And when you have to do multiple phone calls, it's like starting from scratch all over again. Most of them don't speak any English. So, they're offshore somewhere. They're very difficult to deal with. I wouldn't recommend AHS to anybody.

He was also a nice guy, and he changed the circuit breaker. But he said it wasn't the circuit breaker, it had got something to do with the unit. We called back American Home Shield again. They sent Michael and he knew what it was right away. He replaced the part that was needed. It was a starter in the fan unit. He was in and out in 12 minutes and it's been fine ever since. American Home Shield's service is good. Sometimes, with everything, I'll get a bad person that comes out to do work for me, but most of the time, I'm very satisfied. I recently had an issue with both air conditioners. The one upstairs was fixed fine, but I kept having problems for the one downstairs. On the third call, the young man that they sent out finally figured it out and got the situation resolved, so it’s working properly for its age now.
I had a problem with customer service as well. I had a toilet that had cracks in it that American Home Shield would not cover. I scheduled the plumber that they sent out to do it then I went to Lowe’s and discovered I could save 205 bucks by having Lowe’s come out and do it. When I called to speak to the person on the other end, they acted like I was obligated to this plumber. I’m nasty about speaking about lawyers, and I said, “Well, you do what you got to do, I got a good lawyer." The rep then backed down and made things right.
Most of the time, American Home Shield's folks are pretty good to understand, but they outsource to other countries and sometimes they are a bit hard to understand. When you're old and don't hear so well anymore, sometimes that can be a real problem. They are also having a price increase this year. They just sent me my new contract, and it was on the new contract, which takes effect in August. I don't like the price increase, but I understand it.
American Home Shield fixes several things around the house, and with the price of everything, if my unit goes, hopefully they will replace it for me. I'm 71 years old, so it would be a real hurt to my budget if I had to replace those appliances out of pocket. I have recommended them to other people, and other people have taken them through my recommendation. At another address, we had an air conditioning unit go out. It couldn't be fixed, and they replaced it. That was 12 years ago.

A part was ordered and it got delivered in a timely fashion. When the tech came for his appointment, he was in and out of here in 20 minutes and had everything done. He didn't make a mess. I was very impressed.
American Home Shield has always done right. I've had their services for many years now and when something happens, they're on it. But there is one problematic air conditioning company and I don't allow them to come to my house anymore. They gouge people and cause a problem. Everybody that I have recommended American Home Shield to in my close family has had an issue with that company and cancelled the warranty service because of them.
I have an air conditioning job that needed to be done. The company that American Home Shield sent out told me what was going on then they gave me this really outrageous thing. I said no and that I wanted a second opinion. Other people came and they were very reasonable. I said to American Home Shield, “I just want you to make a note in my chart, never to send those people out here again.” They're gonna have to have some other people because that's costing them business.

Air Max came out after I had my pre-HVAC service with my policy. I had that the month before and my AC wasn't working. I had come home from work from a 12-hour shift, and it was cooler outside than it was in my house. So, I submitted a claim to American Home Shield. They came out and said that the only thing that was wrong with it was that the coils needed to be cleaned and they should have done that when they did the HVAC service and they did not. The contractor was great, very polite, professional, and on time.
I called AHS in February and scheduled service for my dishwasher because it was throwing an error code and was shutting off. The guy came out and he was like, "It's your powerboard, your motherboard, but I can't do anything. I see that through the error code, but I need it to throw it again while I'm here or you can take a picture of it and send it to me." I said, "That's fine. I'm sure it'll do it within the next week when I run the dishwasher." So, I sent him, about a week later, the error code again. He then told me that it should be covered under my manufacturer's warranty and that American Home Shield was fighting him on replacing the motherboard because it should be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. I said, "Well, either way, it still needs to be fixed, right? Because you saw that it was throwing an error code and it's broken." He was like, "Yeah, well, I'm trying to get some clarification from American Home Shield."
Another month goes by and I messaged him again and said, "Hey, I sent you the picture. What's going on? I still haven't gotten any completion of this work order and you said you were going to keep it open." I never heard anything back from him. I called American Home Shield, and let them know that it wasn't completed and that it was the motherboard. I, in the meantime, had called LG and was told by them that it was not covered under the manufacturer's warranty because that expired at two years. So, when I called American Home Shield back, I said, "Hey, this is not covered under the manufacturer's warranty." They said they were going to escalate it, but they had been trying to get in touch with this contractor and they hadn't heard anything back from them. They said I would hear something within the next week because they were going to elevate it to their contractor issues department.
In the meantime, my warranty was getting ready to expire. So, I was getting phone calls after phone calls about re-upping my warranty. This was in May. So, when I finally called in to talk to somebody, I said, "Yeah, I'm not really pleased. I paid a $100 deductible for them to come out to fix my dishwasher, which is still broken." The guy that I talked to said, "Okay. Well, we can give you a $50 credit." I said, "No. What is that?" I paid $100 for a service that I didn't get anything out of. He was like, "Well, let me talk to my manager and I'll get back with you." He got back on the phone, 15 minutes later, and said, "We'll give you a $100 credit." "Fine. That's how much I paid for the service call. If you'll give me a $100 credit, I'll re-up my plan."
Fast forward, my dishwasher is still not fixed, and they're billing me $100 for the service call for Air Max when I have the $100 credit. So, I'm not really pleased. I called them when I received the email saying that I had the $100 bill for Air Max coming out. I said, "And secondarily, on top of you guys billing me the $100 for Air Max, which I should have already had the credit for because my dishwasher was never fixed, I did my yearly service, my HVAC service call, and the guy says everything was fine. And had he cleaned the coils like he was supposed to, then I wouldn't have had to call Air Max and schedule another service for them to come out." I'm immensely frustrated because my dishwasher is still broken and they're still trying to get this $100 from me.

The refrigerator wasn't working. The techs diagnosed it but they had to order the part and come back. They put a compressor on it. We've had pretty good luck with AHS. But I don't like calling because it seems like we we go around and around. Also, sometimes, they want to protect the company coming out to do the work instead of the one who's paying the money. Plus they don't have any good plumbers on their list here in Amarillo. I usually get what I want and what I think AHS should pay for but sometimes, I have to argue and fight to get it.

I love that, because we had other home warranties that were not quite as quick, and so far, everyone American Home Shield sent out has been really qualified, kind, clean, and wonderful. I'm really thrilled, and I have recommended them to several people.

The microwave convection oven went out. It was making a weird sound and we had to turn the breaker off. When a contractor came, the parts didn't work. They had to come out four times. Each time, somebody different came out. The first guy came out and looked at it. He put in the part. The next guy came and said, “That part's bad.” Then a fourth guy came and put in the other part. American Home Shield can't replace it. It's not available. We're trying to figure out what to do. We're getting a gift card and you have to go to Lowe's to spend the gift card.

I had another company that I didn't have a good response with. They didn't have enough vendors in my area. I went with the American Home Shield and I haven't had any problems. American Home Shield is very prompt. Whenever I put in the service requests, they immediately assign it to someone. Whoever they assign it to reaches out to me within the next six hours, and I usually get a response the next day. When the AC unit wasn't cooling, a repairman was out in 24 hours and fixed it that day. Everything was excellent.

My most recent claim was for an AC issue. It was a motor from the interior unit and I'm sure it would have cost me over $200 to fix it, but I only paid the 75 deposit that I needed to pay. The tech was awesome too. I submitted my claim online at 7:00 in the morning, and before 8 o'clock, he responded and said he had some stuff lined up for the morning and he would be at the location around noon. He texted me when he was on his way. I met him there, and everything took three hours, at the most, for him to repair. It was really fast, and my AC is perfect. I love American Home Shield. Shortly after my AC went out though, my fridge went out as well and that's not included on my plan. So, I had to buy a new fridge. It would be nice to have had that part of my plan.

I wish American Home Shield could have told me a little sooner what was going on. They paid for the condenser, but I paid almost $6,000 to get the air conditioner installed and I still had to turn around the next year and get the problem fixed on the inside. They could have looked at my air conditioner thoroughly the first time, but it happens and I get it. The repair people only checked one part of it, but then they didn't check the whole system. They saw the first problem and rectified it. Now, I've got to get an evaporator coil that has to be installed. It's a big job, and I can't afford it right now, but I'm gonna get it done soon.
I had to go back and forth with a lot of stuff that’s going on with my air conditioner, and a lot of the work that needs to be done has to come out of my pocket. It will cost more, but I wish American Home Shield has a plan that covers the cost of whatever it is they're doing. Plus, some modifications had to be done. I just spent $1,000 last year, and I wasn't expecting to come out of pocket $1,600 on the items related to the first item. Other than that, it's okay. I'm not cancelling.

American Home Shield increased my amount substantially. But it has been helpful. The only problem I’ve had is that when I have to call in, I get a person over in Asia or it’s not in the US. That’s generally fine, except the time zone is different. I tried to get ahold of somebody in Tennessee, which is the homebase here, but that does not always work out. The only thing that works out when I really have an urgent situation, I contact the social media group, and they tend to respond. But otherwise, they’re very nice, cordial, and polite representatives. But they don't have much authority to make decisions. I got a rep in South America, which was a little better, but still, they can’t help me anyway. So the problem is finding your way with a direct connection who can really help you in the United States.
Most companies that American Home Shield referred me to were okay. But they referred me to one company that was worst I've ever seen. They didn't diagnose properly, so therefore, American Home Shield wasn't going to pay for it. So it was incorrect. The rule is they send a second person out, and they say the same thing, then you have to pay for it. So, I said, “You know what, I'm not even gonna play this game. I'm just gonna get somebody.” I had to get a real plumber come out that I paid out of pocket, and they diagnosed it correctly. It worked out fine. I was tired of waiting so long for American Home Shield.
I had another situation during more of the waiting for supplies, where I waited four months and they still didn't have the part. So I did report it. Fortunately, it was only one burner on my stove, so I managed to cook with less. So I left them alone. Finally, I contacted them and said, “Look, it’s been a long time. Is there anything else we can do here to get this part for my stove? And my oven, too, my upper oven had quit as well.” American Home Shield said, “Well, yeah, we can get a different contractor." They did that and the contractor had the part right away. They fixed it the same day. So things are doing better.

The plumber was great. The sink would not drain in the kitchen on either side. The basement drain was slow, and so was the bathroom's. The service was outstanding. We also had a refrigerator that needed repair. The guy came out, repaired that. Very nice. But some other issues in the past we've had, we ended up disappointed with them.
We had a microwave that went out in May. It took almost a year to get it repaired. American Home Shield kept sending parts but they didn't work. They would send that same part again but it still didn't work. It needed to be replaced. And they kept dragging their feet to replace it. We ended up buying another microwave because we had no use of our microwave. So, I was very discouraged about that. Within the past few years, when we had a problem, it took long for someone to come out. We had a dishwasher. It took a while for them to eventually repair that. We had considered dropping AHS.

I have some disappointments with American Home Shield. I have some good reviews. I have some bad ones. I called and I told them that my refrigerator needed fixing. Then the next day, I found out my stove also broke down. They said there has to be another claim, and that was $200. I was like, "Forget that." I just went ahead with the refrigerator. Now, I had to call back in with the stove. I thought that was crazy. It was within 24 hours that the stove started acting up and they told me I had to put in another claim. So, that was very disappointing. I also had another problem with my garage opener because it was misleading that it says, door open, and the garage door opens. So, my garage door opener was not broken. It was the bar that was on top of it, and they wouldn't fix that. They’re saying that will be on another claim.
Other than that, I haven't had any problems with some services, after the service or with the contractors. Sometimes, the contractors are slow to move, but I understand that because they have other things before mine and after they fix and repair, I have no problems afterwards. The first year I had them, they were impeccable. This year, I don't know if something's going on, but it really hasn't been doing well. I can't understand a lot of their foreign customer service reps. They can't understand me and they kind of make me frustrated. I was trying to explain to them the situation, and they said, "Oh, I understand." They don't understand. I just say, "Just give me your supervisor. Give me your supervisor." They'll say, "It takes 48 hours for our supervisor to call you back." That really throws me off. They did that one time, and I just hit the roof.

We had an unresolved issue with the freezer door not being fixed. It was repeated calls, nothing was done and it was not ever resolved. The next time we called with a claim, American Home Shield wanted to charge us $75. They eventually gave us the credit, but it still was frustrating with the service. We gave up on it too. But the recent company was incredible. Our air conditioner wasn't cooling. They came out and one of the pieces was out. A few days later, it was back not working. They came and said, "Okay, this other piece isn't working now." They were good about explaining and letting us know our cost of the Freon and everything was upfront. They were good communicators.
I just recently lost my mom and we were in the midst of that and had a house full of company coming in. When they said they couldn't get the part until the next week, I just said, "Okay. What can you do?" But they could tell how upset I was. Saturday morning, a technician called and said, "I'm at your house." I was so impressed with them, especially because it was under home warranty.

A contractor came out and assessed the situation. They took apart the AC unit and immediately could tell that the motor was shot. They needed to get a part. They took something with them then came back. It was outside our house, so they were able to do it without us being present. We’ve had three incidents now—one plumbing, one AC. And all of them have been great. I like that AHS covers big incidents like an AC unit that goes out. They’ve got the connections to people in town that they're able to send out. However, from a consumer’s standpoint, the communication is always difficult. It always seems it takes a lot longer from the consumer’s side to get to the desired outcome, whether that’s getting somebody out to the house or figuring out next steps. At the end of the day, we end up getting the desired service. It just ends up being a more roundabout process than we are hopping.

We used AHS back when we were living in Maryland, and we were very happy. We moved here and we got a new house but the first year, there was another company that came with the house. So, we had to stop AHS for a year and that was when we really realized how convenient the service was from AHS. We got back with AHS this year and so far, we're very pleased. AHS-wise, we are always pleased. I would recommend AHS definitely. So far, the staff has been very helpful. They will try their best to resolve the problem. I never feel any disappointment with anybody.
The only thing sometimes is the vendor is the headache. We had an issue with our AC. We have three units of AC in our house, the top, the first floor and the second floor. We let the staff know that and asked if we could have those checked. At the time, it wasn't that clear. The staff didn't let us know that it was supposed to be like two orders instead of one. So, the technician came but only checked one unit because according to vendors, it's only one order. Other than that, AHS has been great.

The most important thing that I like about AHS is the professionalism and that when you either call in or go online to make an appointment, to put in what type of services that you're needing, it doesn't take them long in order to find someone in your area to get them sent out to you. When the guy came out here for the AC, he said that it needed to be replaced 'cause it is an older unit and the coils had gone bad. But they had just put some Freon in there. He said it will last me the whole summer, give me a little time to work on getting the money together to replace the inside and outside unit. Everything has been so far, so good.

I had an issue with my gas furnace and submitted a claim through the website. It was smooth. I received the name of the company from American Home Shield. I received a phone call from them to schedule the technician arriving, and then another call about 30 minutes before the technician arrived at my house. The furnace wasn't igniting and the same technician came out three times. The first time that he came, he opened the furnace and it ticked on doing what it wasn't doing before. The second time he came out, he was able to figure out what the issue was. He ended up replacing a relay board inside the furnace. But he didn't have one on hand. So he came out again later to replace it once he got the part in. The board replacement was quick and easy.
My second claim was for my AC and we had a technician come out and fix that issue as well. He was here for about 15 minutes and was able to resolve the actual problem with the unit. The difference between the first and second claims was that with the first claim, the contracting company got in contact with me. I expected it to be the same with the second claim, but then when I went and looked, I was supposed to contact them. There wasn't a large difference in how those notifications were provided to me. It was two weeks before I realized that I was supposed to contact them and that they weren't going to contact me. But in the times that I've used American Home Shield, the companies that they recommended were able to solve my problems.

The dryer stopped heating so I called up AHS. Then, I got an email with the company's name and phone number. I had the option of either waiting for the company to call me to schedule the visit or calling them to set it up. The first company that came out, the technician came out twice. He replaced a part but it wasn't the issue. He came back out two weeks later and replaced another part but it wasn’t that. I had to wait for another week. The second technician showed up and I wasn't home at that time. He mumbled something over the phone and he left. then I didn't hear from them anymore.
I called the AHS and asked them what the status was and then they got some weird information from the company, so they closed the case. I begged them to open it again and I got a call from a second company. I was outside their working area so I got redirected to the third company. The technician showed up and with his demeanor, his appearance, and the way he’s carrying himself, you could tell he was, in a way, on another level than the first company that showed up.
The guy troubleshoot the issue and in 10 minutes, he was out the door. He said the heating element is bad and that he took picture of my model number. He said I should hear from my company within a week with the part to schedule the appointment. Sure enough, five days later, I got an email that the part showed up. The same dude showed up and he was in and out in less than 10 minutes. The issue was solved.
The only thing with AHS was I was unaware that I had to pay 100 bucks for every time I call service out here. Also, there was a miscommunication with the first company. I never got a call or an email to let me know what the contractor said. But other than that, once it went back on board with sending somebody out, I keep getting emails very promptly. Everything worked fine.
