American Home Shield overall is failing to do a good job as far as customer service. I wish it was a different experience, but it's not. When the contractor worked on my home before, they took one of my tools with them. I notified them but they never returned my items. They recently were reassigned to my home for an issue where they said in order to get the repair, they would have to fully remove all of my cabinets in my home. So, I asked for a second opinion. A new plumbing company came out. Those guys were great. They came in, did not mention anything about having to tear out my cabinets in order to repair. They're professional. They have been doing everything that they said they would and keeping their appointments.
I looked at that as if the previous company gave me misinformation to either not want to do it or charge me more. American Home Shield should cover everything as far as the plumbing goes because I was given misinformation and misquoted. I was very dissatisfied with that. I was not happy with the contractor. I hope to never have them assigned to me. I would fix this myself before I try to call that company again. And I know nothing about plumbing.
American Home Shield gets different information. One associate may tell me something, and another tells me something else. AHS will take whatever money, however they charge to start a service request fee, knowing that it can't be fixed. I could tell them what the problem is, and they would take it, and I would get a tech out here and say, "We don't do that for that." When I initially talk to them, they will tell me, "We can get that covered. We'll get that taken care of." So, there's a lot of misinformation going on from when I file a claim to when someone comes out. And it's always a big difference. It's a lot of cases where they say, "We'll take care of that," and then get out, "We don't cover that.”
It's a good company once they finally do what they're supposed to do. But as a consumer, I should not have to fight and call constantly and wait on callbacks. It has been several times that I've asked for a supervisor. Rarely did I get a call back. Being business-oriented, this company isn't a good company. They get you in, and sign you up, and you pay every month. But when I have an issue, I will have to fight for what I need to get done. That's not fair to any consumer.
They should not take the service fee knowing we can't fix anything. I understand that. It's one of those things where they ask you over the phone. They have the capability for video diagnosis or you have the capability to speak to the technicians before they come. It does not have to be taken from you and applied. Most of these things you could explain it to them and they know, "We can take care of that." AHS knows what they're willing to cover and not. Instead of me giving them my $100, give me a chance to use that towards a repair that I can make outside of AHS because they were not going to cover it anyway. It's almost like a cash grab. It's free money in the air and they will take it.
Some days, I get frustrated that I'm tired of sitting on the phone and going back and forth. Once it finally works, it's fine. Once they finally say, "We're just gonna replace your product,” or this or that, that's okay. Even with those things, when they finally decide to do the right thing, it's still another fight to even get things done. I've been having a stove repaired for the last two months. That's not acceptable. They've been piece by piece fixing the stove. I'm not sure if I'm gonna have an accurately working stove even to use on holidays.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

Blizzard Air came out a of couple weeks ago for an AC issue, and it was fixed. This was my first time using American Home Shield for a claim and in the beginning, I really did not know how it was working. I didn't know how Blizzard Air was gonna fix my AC. I had some confusion in the beginning, but I don't have any complaint because it's fixed. My only concern with the company was they did not explain what was wrong to me. The tech came to my house twice. And then the third time, he fixed the problem. The first time they came, they didn't even speak to me. It's my house and they were just going up and down. They acted like I was not even in the house.
I started getting worried because they were not speaking to me. They were just telling me not to worry about it. The tech told me he fixed it, and he didn't even wait in the house. He was only in the house for less than 30 minutes, so I didn't even understand how he even fixed my AC. He left. Then I realized it was not working. So, I called American Home Shield. The tech came the second time, and the third time, it was fixed. They have a poor communication skills but because it was fixed, I cannot say anything bad.

The front burner on the stove wasn't working. After I made the report online, I received this text message wanting me to describe the issue. They were asking me a whole bunch of questions. It was weird as it was coming from two different things, but it was asking me the same thing. After that, two people came out at the same time. I walked them to the issue and they fixed it. However, during the first appointment, I saw that their estimated arrival time would be 11:40. I went ahead and dropped the kid at school but by the time I got back, it said it moved, and I missed the appointment. I had to go back in there to request the second appointment. It was successful that time around.
I like that with American Home Shield, it's easy and simple to go on and make an appointment online. I don't have to do all of these extra prompts. But if you call, then that's different. I also don't like that if I'm under the contract, I have to stay within that contract for a whole year. I attempted to upgrade to a better contract, but they said that I couldn't. I also didn't receive any information letting me know that my contract is up, that I can continue to opt in if I want, and that there are other incentives that I can get if I was to upgrade.
We truly appreciate your loyalty and referrals, and we look forward to continuing to provide reliable service whenever you need us.

The contractor was excellent. However, American Home Shield is very difficult to deal with. Their call center, like many other call centers, are not here in the United States, and people do not understand English. They don't understand what my problems are, and it makes it very frustrating. It sounds like they're Filipinos.

The dishwasher was not drying because of a heating element. AHS assigned Sears, and I kept getting emails and text messages every day that said it’s almost time for my repair, for up to like five days before they came out. It was good that they communicated, but it was a little overkill in some ways.
The technician who came out had a strong accent, so it was hard to understand. He had to do an inspection to figure out what they needed. I received the parts within three days, which is great, but then I had to wait 30 days before the next appointment. Timeliness was really poor.
I’ve had other home warranties and I feel like American Home Shield is a little expensive on the per usage when they charge the show-up fee of 125. I’ve paid 65 in the past, and that was nice. So, if you’re looking for cost savings, go somewhere else.
We truly appreciate your perspective and will continue working to make our service more efficient and cost-effective. If you ever need assistance again, we’re here to help.

K & S Plumbing were required by American Home Shield to fix a pipe leak. But when their plumber came in, he stated that we had a slab leak. So, I called to get a company that would come out to detect where the leak was at. They came out, looked at it, and it wasn't a slab leak. So, I called the plumber back out because, at that time, the water was out in our house, and we were staying in the hotel. He came back out that day and the leak detection company pointed out where the leak was for him to come back and fix. He cut through that area, and he still wasn't able to find the leak. He stated that the leak was up above in the ceiling at a location that he could not reach due to it being up too high. It would call for an extended ladder and a two-person job for safety reasons. A mitigation team came to bring the fan, then one of their guys was able to fix the leak. It wasn't where K & S Plumbing said it was, so they never fixed the leak.
At another time, my experience with American Home Shield was really good. But they have been terrible lately. I don't know where they find the contractors but they're not picking quality contractors. It seems like you just throw your money down the drain if they're not getting reputable technicians that's going to do what they need to do.
I have referred a few friends to them, but they have had bad experiences. The quality of the service depends on the area now. My mom's in the area where they come and fix whatever needs to get fixed. I had a friend in Tennessee, Murfreesboro where they sent a contractor over here to fix her HVAC. That person turned stuff off and didn't turn it back on. Then he never came back. She called American Home Shield and they weren't helpful. She's still without her unit working, and that's been almost a year now. My sister also had American Home Shield and she's looking to get someone new because she's in Midland, Georgia where the service is poor. It seems like whenever she talks to somebody at American Home Shield, they want her to fix her issues by herself and they won't cover the repairs.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

One of the kitchen breakers tripped two days after the storm and my husband tried to put it back. Here in our subdivision, the breaker trips easily, even without storms, heavy rain, or strong winds. It doesn’t take much for it to trip. This time, the difference was that the breaker wouldn’t hold. We tried to reset it, but nothing happened. So, I waited a day or two, thinking it was storm-related. But we are not electricians, so we didn't realize that it might be water inside the breaker area. So, I set up the claim. I checked online if the breakers were covered and a representative on the chat confirmed it was. When the guy came, I explained to him what happened. Our breaker box is outside. That’s how the builder decided to install it, so as a homeowner, I assumed that anything installed on the exterior is meant to withstand outdoor conditions.
In the past, if a breaker tripped, I could reset it and everything would work fine. This time, the electrician came out and said there were signs of water inside the box, but everything was still working. He simply reset the breakers and they worked normally. I asked him if the water inside the breaker box was a serious issue. He told me that depending on wind direction and weather, water can seep in from the top of the box and travel through it. He showed me photos and pointed out that the breakers have small clear windows, and that there were signs of moisture inside several of them. However, none of them had failed except for one, which is the only reason I submitted the claim. He said that eventually he would recommend replacing all the breakers, but he did not expect the main breaker to trip again. I asked what would happen if it did, and he said we could look at replacement at that point.
When I received the denial from American Home Shield, I was shocked. I had received the electrician’s estimate the same day he came out, so I thought that was just part of the normal process and documentation of his findings. I understand the policy says issues caused by wear and tear may not be covered, but I don’t know if this qualifies as wear and tear. I’ve lived here for five years and bought the house almost six years ago. During that time, I’ve never had any water-related issues with the breaker box. There is some yellowish discoloration inside the box, which suggests this happened gradually over time.
I’ve been paying American Home Shield for almost six years. When I first signed up, my monthly payment was around $50, and over time it increased to about $62 a month. Over nearly six years, not including service fees, I’ve paid them almost $4,000. And I only filed one claim during that time, about three months ago, when my washing machine broke. They offered to replace it, but I chose to have it repaired instead. The repair cost was about $600.
Based on that experience, I would not recommend home warranty insurance. I would rather save the $4,000 and pay for my own repairs than spend nearly $400 a year and receive only $600 in coverage over six years. My family is already a member of American Home Shield, and they all know what happened. They might be reconsidering if they're gonna renew. It’s better to save and put aside those 60 bucks. At least you can shop around for an electrician and have the appliance replaced.

The washing machine was bouncing everywhere and the dryer was making this weird noise. When I filed the claim with American Home Shield, I told them that I'm tired of them sending out 1-star or unrated contractors. I've made 15, 20 calls on my air conditioner, and their contractors people kept giving them lies. I got documentation of the facts that were covered. I could sue American Home Shield right now because they didn't do what they said they would do in the contract. I'm still considering a lawsuit to get the cost of my air conditioning.
I spent $15,000 and bought a brand-new air conditioning system because the people that they kept sending out didn't wanna fix it right. It was in the ceiling, and it was complicated to get to. They all just kept giving excuses. The drain line was clogged but nothing was done, and they could not unclog it. I got sick and tired of spending all the money to do the repairs on the drywall. I also had to get new flooring. I couldn't count how many times in the past three years has American Home Shield sent people out for the air conditioning for the same thing. But it still kept on flooding the bathroom.
American Home Shield is not worth it. Nobody understands what you're talking about when you call them up. The last guy I got to do the washer was pretty good, but the people they have sent out to do repairs, 9 out of 10 times, they look for excuses not to do them. They're just trying to get their trip charge. They don't even try to look at it. I also referred my sister to them and when she had an electrician come out, they said they couldn't fix the issue because they couldn't get to it.

We have a property with a heating system that was not functioning properly. I diagnosed it with my friends who work with things related to that and then I reported it for replacement through American Home Shield. I was told that as long as it's working, they can't do anything, except repair. Their contractor came out with a significant amount that needed to be put down so that they can replace it, but the unit is still working so far, so I decided I was not ready to put out about 9,000 to replace it. I started with American Home Shield a couple of months ago and it has not been beneficial for me. However, I still recommend friends and family. I was informed about its positive aspects from a conversation I had with American Home Shield, so I'm still optimistic.

I described the water heater issue and the tech asked me to send pictures, which I did. The person was very nice. However, I only called American Home Shield once and didn't like how it happened. I had no doubt the furnace needs to be replaced, but it was, "You're gonna have to pay out of pocket $1,200." I communicated with AHS because I tried to figure out what they will pay versus what I will pay the contractor. Don't just tell me I'm gonna pay somebody out of pocket $1,200. AHS never gave me a clear answer, not even the contractor. They will just send me an invoice that said $1,200. I wanted know if it meant I paying $500 for a water furnace, plus $200 for a permit, etc.
They said it needed to be replaced because the year on the water furnace that's installed is 2009. They said, "You outlived the usefulness and it's leaking from the bottom. That's not something you're gonna repair. It's gonna have to be replaced." Which is fine, but tell me what I'm paying for. I can probably get a new one or have someone come out and do that. No one told me what I wanted, so I stopped communicating. I was irritated. Both parties should always be prepared to tell someone exactly what they're paying for.
I'm a new homeowner. This is only my second year in this house. I had a different home warranty last year. When I bought the house, the Realtor gifted me a home warranty with a different company and I was gonna stay with them. But I know several people who use AHS and they said they are amazing. I could have stayed with the other company. I switched based on other people saying AHS was so good. I'm gonna switch back to the other company, but I was lazy to do that at the renewal time. People need to know, especially those like me who are new and don't understand what a home warranty is gonna cover. AHS should be more transparent.

Make It Right came out to clean the furnace. They were on time, which was great, and they cleaned the furnace. So it was fine. But I'm not that happy with American Home Shield. I have them in my personal property and in some of my rental properties, and I don't like the option that they only give us one company that we have to go with. Because sometimes those companies are so busy that they're not available for days at a time. That left one of my tenants without heat for days because I only have the option with one company. So I would like the option to have more than one company to choose from, and I would especially love if I could choose my own company.

I washed the sheets and put the mattress cover in the washing machine, and it just exploded. The top blew off, the side is bowed out, and the explosion made a hole in the wall right next to it. I had my handyman look at it, and he said it couldn’t be fixed. If it could’ve been fixed, I wouldn’t have gone to the trouble of calling American Home Shield. I called American Home every single day after I spoke with the handyman, but they wouldn't keep me informed about what was happening. And every time I called, I got a foreign voice that was very hard to understand. So, I would struggle with that. This is only the second time I’ve made a claim in the 30 years that I’ve been with American Home Shield and I asked what the next step would be. I was told there would be someone who would connect with me and look at the machine.
The guy was from Colorado Springs, about 45 miles away, and said he couldn’t come for a week. I asked where he was going that day and he said Pueblo West, which is right past me. He said he could stop, but only for a minute, and I said that was fine. He came the next day with another guy, who seemed very arrogant. He said he didn’t need to look at it, and wouldn’t even look at the bowed part. He pulled the machine out, put the lid back on, and they left. They never contacted me. I called several times. His write-up denied the claim, saying I was washing things I shouldn’t have. But this is a large 4.7 LG tub, and I’ve washed everything in it, including cushions and comforters. It’s an open tub with no agitator, one of those machines where you can wash really large items. I loved that washer. When I buy another one, I’ll get the same kind again because it was fabulous.
I called AHS and asked what they meant by denying it because of what I was washing. It wasn’t my fault that it blew up. I kept getting representatives I couldn’t understand, and I didn’t speak to anyone who spoke clear English until I finally raised hell at the end of all this. Eventually, a nice lady came on the line. Before that, one of the other reps told me the next step was to get a second opinion. My second opinion was through Wright Appliance. I called them and at first, the number wasn’t even connected, and it was a strange number. It seemed like you could only reach it if you were already a customer, and it didn’t match the office location. When I finally reached someone, she said they had received the request from American Home Shield. I tried to set up an appointment, and she told me to just send the pictures that I took, which I did. The techs never came out at all and the second opinion was based only on my photos.
After that, I had to keep calling Wright Appliance and American Home Shield over and over to get answers. It was taking way too much of my time. This was a washing machine that cost under $1,000, and it made me wonder what would happen if this were something bigger, like an air conditioner or a furnace. At that point, I started questioning why I even had the warranty if I couldn’t trust them and they couldn’t trust me. I’ve had that machine for a while, I’ve always taken care of it, and I clean it regularly. I would never wash things I wasn’t supposed to.
When I finally spoke again with American Home Shield, the representative read the decision directly from her computer. She said the claim was denied because they said I was washing items that shouldn’t have been washed, and the second opinion didn’t dispute the first one. I explained that the second opinion never came out, so nothing was disputed. I told them the original technician wouldn’t even look at what I was washing and refused to go outside to see it. At that point, I demanded to speak to someone who could listen and make a decision. It took a fight to get there. I kept being passed from one person to another, being told there was no number and no way to connect me to anyone higher up. I finally insisted on getting a number for the main office because I needed to talk to someone who could do something.
The woman I finally spoke with was very nice, and I explained everything to her. She told me she couldn’t reverse the claim and the only thing she could offer was a few months of credit. I told her that wasn’t going to work for me and that I wanted to close my account. She said there was nothing else she could do but offered to connect me with someone who could close the account. My account is closed but a payment was taken out of my bank account the day before and I told them I wanted that money back. They said it would be refunded. Later, I noticed the charge still showed up asa debit, not a credit. I would never recommend American Home Shield. My girlfriend was talking about getting an appliance insurance and I told her not to get them.
I had one other claim, ad it was for my hot water heater. It was in a place that had a gas extension in the garage. American Home Shield worked with me and I appreciated that. But there were no people answering the phone. The people who answered the phone could talk to you. Now, they've gone. I kept American Home Shield for 30 years because I had worked with them before and they had been so good. That’s why this was so disappointing. Also, the price has steadily gone up. I now pay $68-something a month. I was a Realtor for 40 years with Coldwell Banker, and I used to give it as a closing gift. It was an easy gift to give, people really needed it, and they were easy to work with. But I won’t go back to them again, and now I’m very leery of appliance insurance in general. At this point, I won’t do appliance insurance anymore.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

My regular air conditioning company had identified more than a year ago that we had a leak in our coil. My niece stayed in the casitas where the unit is. We noticed that the air conditioner was not working. So, I called our company that regularly services us to come out. He said, "It's time to get a new coil, but I'll put some Freon in it to hold you over." I called American Home Shield to submit the claim and they had Anders Air Conditioning out the next day to check on it. I was very happy with that. Their response speed was excellent. However, Anders couldn't document that there was a leak because the Freon was full. Now we're waiting for it to leak and call AHS, and they willl have somebody come out to document that the coil is leaking.
We had AHS one other time for a refrigeration unit, and the company that came out was Wolf. They were very accurate in diagnosing what the problem was, but also let us know that it wasn't covered over the home warranty thing, and what our next step should be, which was to replace it with a cheaper model than what we had. That has been my two times that I've used the service and I've been happy with it.
We’re also pleased that Wolf offered clear guidance during your refrigeration issue, even though it wasn’t covered. Your willingness to recommend AHS means a lot to us, and we’re grateful for your trust over the past five years. Then a gentleman came out to replace the rollers. Everything seemed to be fine, but it had a squeaky noise. Apparently, he just replaced one roller and a few of them were bad. A new guy came out, and he picked up the drum and pushed it in. I let it go a cycle or two, and on one of the cycles, it kept squeaking again. I called American Home Shield back and they did a recall. The repairman came back last Friday and took my dryer apart. But he couldn't put it back together and couldn't fix the problem. He said someone was gonna come out that day.
Dryer parts were all over my floor. There were sharp objects and I have three small kids. I was waiting for someone to come out. At 4:15, nobody came out yet. Then I got this AI text message from Sears saying the technician was held up and they had to reschedule me for Monday. I called American Home Shield and told them that was unacceptable. I was very upset. They did what they could, but no one came out. I had to wait for Monday to come. Finally, someone came out Monday around 2:30. This is the gentleman that has came out to my dryer before and fixed it in 20 minutes. His name is Andrew. He's the best technician that they got and I wanna request him from now on.
American Home Shield is very good with some things. But other times, when I have a big issue and I need somebody immediately, it's never fixed immediately. It's taken weeks. They fix it eventually but it’s gonna take a while and I have to complain about it. American Home Shield also increased my rate every February without me knowing about it. When I called about it, they told me I could have called in January and asked for a promo. But I didn't even know it was increasing and by the time I called, it was too late.
I'd like to have good technicians out here the first time around instead of me getting the second or third-hand person. I had a plumbing issue and American Home Shield kept sending me this one company. They screwed up my house more than anything else with plumbing. One of the pipes was clogged in my sink and eventually, they just said they could not fix it. I had to deal with putting a big black bag underneath my sink and figuring out how to empty the sink water in the bag so I could use my sink and wash dishes. Someone came out and fixed it eventually, but it took a good month. I was doing that for a month.

I used American Home Shield for an air conditioner recently. The rep that I spoke with when I filed the claim was courteous, knowledgeable, and friendly. A contractor came out after 2 days, and they were courteous and prompt. They did the repair. However, I would not recommend American Home Shield as my overall experience is being drugged down by our very first experience with them.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

Nova HVAC initially came out to do an inspection of the furnace for the fall and ended up replacing a part on it. I've had American Home Shield for at least 10 years, and it's been a great experience with them. It's kind of expensive but I have no issues with them regarding the service I've received. It’s very easy to schedule and get somebody. The only thing is I have coverage on my mom's home, and since she lives in a rural community, the contractors aren't as readily available to address her concerns.

American Home Shield’s app was very good. I like that they have video chatting and a way to put the claim there. We have an AC unit furnace not starting and the contractor fixed the problem on the same day that they came. It's working well now. They did a good job and even though I wasn’t there, the feedback from my family was excellent. American Home Shield is a good service and I’m very satisfied with how it’s working. I sent them dozens of customers by telling them about our experience.
We truly appreciate your trust and the referrals you’ve sent our way—they make a big difference. If you ever need assistance again, please know we’re here to help keep your home comfortable and worry-free.

A contractor came out for the air conditioner. They said they needed a part, that they were gonna see if they could get it, and that they would check with American Home Shield. However, that has been about a month. American Home Shield didn't communicate with me until I had to go and saw that I had a message. They said that if there's a part missing, they won't replace it. There's no part missing. It's a part that's not working correctly which is what the AC company said. They said the board is not communicating with the system, so the system is running constantly all the time. My electric bill is about 350, and the last two months, it was $700.
I have about 10 homes with American Home Shield. Some of them have been covered for 3 years, some are 4, but the longest is five years. I like that they're prompt. If I have an issue, they'll take some two or three days, then somebody's already out there. But they could have taken care of the AC issue a little bit more, especially because it's my personal home. They don't have to give me priority, but they could have taken into consideration that I’ve been with them for a while. I've trusted them that's why I have these other 10 investment homes with them.
If you have American Home Shield, make sure you read the contract correctly. Also make sure that when a contractor has to come back, you call American Home Shield and tell them that the contractor is coming back for the same issue that wasn't fixed the first time. If you don't say that, then they'll charge you another $100 for the same thing. That's what happened to me.

I had leak in the house that was costing me money every single day. The first plumber came out after 4 days but it wasn't an experienced plumber. They had to have someone else come out instead and that took another four to five days. Then when they came out, they closed the ticket and put a comment very briefly. I didn't quite understand the extent of what they did. I called them twice asking for a call back to let me know what they did but I didn't get a call back. To this date, I don't know what they did or fixed. I have to wait for my next water bill to come in to see if they actually fixed the issue or not.
With American Home Shield, I don't always know fully what to expect. Sometimes they'll cover stuff but sometimes they won't. The time that they've covered stuff, it's been a good experience. But there have been a couple of times where they either hasn't or the contractor wasn't prepared. Like anyone else, they probably look for reasons to try to decline claims.
In some cases, when you request a service, the categories are generally broad. Sometimes when you want to schedule something, it doesn't let you specifically identify what the problem is. That may have led to why they sent someone that wasn't properly experienced. On a different instance, a guy thought he was coming to fix a leak but it wasn't a leak. It was a gas pipe in the stove.

Submitting a claim with AHS has been fairly simple. However, it was very vague, with generic answers. It didn't have the designated section to pick what I was looking for, but I was able to write down in the comments the issues I was having. But I loved the contractor who came out. They were very communicative and they kept me informed. Great people. The service with AHS though, was poor. It took them over a week to get a plumber out here. Couldn't get ahold of anybody and nobody would call me back. They also covered what we needed, but in the end, it's like any other warranty company, they're gonna find ways to get out of it.

I called American Home Shield to file the claim for the microwave and they were quick. They had somebody call me the very next day to schedule. The company said they couldn't schedule until I got the part. They had to change a panel in the lock on my microwave. So, they ordered the part and it came within two days. It was a Saturday, so I called back on a Monday to schedule. They scheduled me for a week and a half out. It was fine, but 15 minutes before the window closed, I called them and said, “Hey, I was just wondering. I haven't heard from you. Are you guys still coming? Do you have to reschedule?” The girl I talked to said, “No. I'm sorry. The tech's gonna be behind. But they're still coming.” So, I waited.
About an hour after the service window closed, I got a call from the company. “Hey, I'm sorry. We're gonna have to reschedule.” I said, “Wait a minute. I sat here all day. I called. And I was told.” The girl said to me, “You're lying. I'm looking at the transcript right now. Nobody told you that.” I said, “You need to reread that transcript then because that's exactly what she told me. And I made notes of it.” She asked, “Do you wanna reschedule or not?” I said, “Well, obviously, I have no choice.” She rescheduled it for that Saturday and I said, “That's fine. But I do need to speak to a supervisor.” She said, “There's none available. Somebody will call you back” and she hung up on me.
That particular Saturday, I sat here the entire time. Since it was Saturday, there was no number because I can't call them. I had to call American Home Shield and they were closed. I waited and waited and about 20 minutes after the window closed, I had to leave because I had to go to the hospital. I was having medical issues. I had kidney stones and I was on the floor, in pain the entire day. But I did not want to leave because I had already been waiting for weeks. The service window was from 11:00 to 3:00 and the guy showed up about 40 minutes later than the close of the window. He called about 3:40 and I answered the doorbell from my phone on the way to the hospital. I said, “Look. I waited.” He said, “I'm so sorry. I didn't realize I was as far behind as I was. But I promise I will get you rescheduled asap.” However, I didn't hear from anybody. I was in the hospital and ended up having to have kidney surgery.
When I got done with my surgery, I called to schedule and they said, “We can't get you in for 10 days.” I said, “This has been a month now. First of all, I had to pay a $100 deductible and I'm without a microwave,” They rescheduled but would not do it early. Finally, the supervisor, at that point, called me back and I told her what happened. I said, “Honestly, every single person’s been very nice except for one who just ignorant.” I told her the whole story and the supervisor was apologizing to me. She was very nice. She said she pulled the phone records and everything I said was factual. She said, “I will put you on a list if we get a cancellation.”
They got a cancellation three days early and the guy that came out could not have been nicer. He fixed the issue and did a good job. He was phenomenal. However, the fact that they canceled two times and pushed me back another almost two weeks the third time was ridiculous. It was their fault both times. Plus, I was not happy dealing with the second girl from the service company. I even called American Home Shield and they were not helpful at all. The lady I spoke to was horrendous, basically telling me, “Sorry. Nothing we can do. They already ordered the part.” I said, “It was a $4 part. The guy that ordered it told me that it cost four bucks. You couldn't eat that $4 and just have somebody else come out here?” I pay American Home Shield $1,000 a year and don't really use them. Their site's good though.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

American Home Shield's robot system is terrible, but the home warranty company eventually gets around to doing the right thing. I had a claim and the description that was initially submitted was errantly recorded by their robot system. I had to call back in and say, “Hey, no. It's the HVAC system for the whole house, not a window heater.” I tried twice to do it through the robot system and correct it, but I couldn't get it off the window heating and air conditioner thing. It was not an easy robot to deal with. When the service request was dispatched, I called the company because they didn't call me after a day and they put me off for a week. That's when I started rounding up humans on the line and that was not easy to do.
The service person who came out was excellent, and I like him. He said he had to reboot the system and in order to do that, I noticed he used a couple of electrical clip lines to short something out. I could not see exactly how he did it, but once he did it, the system came back up and running. Currently, everything is functioning perfectly as it should.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're sorry to hear about the initial miscommunication regarding your service request and the frustration with our automated system. We started having a problem with the air conditioner, where it was making noise and there was a slight smoky smell coming from it. So we called American Home Shield and they had Superior Comfort check the air conditioner instead of Fix-It, the original company that installed it. The tech said there was a leak and if they tried to find it and fix the problem, it would cancel the warranty on the air conditioner. We called AHS back and told them about it. We were told that the Fix-It people are supposed to come and check it out. But we still have not heard anything from them.
When we get in touch with AHS, the majority of the time, we get individuals from a foreign country answering the phone. And once in a while, we have difficulty communicating. But I have no problem getting in touch with AHS. It's a problem getting in touch with Fix-It. We have been with AHS for over 33 years and this year, all of a sudden, we've been having problems with the people that they send. The service contractors that they hired are cheap labor that, the majority of the time, don't know how to fix the problem. The experience has been lousy this year.
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We apologize for the dissatisfaction you’ve experienced this year, particularly with the recent air conditioner issue and the lack of follow-up from both the contractor and installer. It's concerning to hear about these service gaps given our long-standing relationship.

I love American Home Shield, so I would not switch. I've contemplated switching years ago, but I’ve changed my mind. I've been with them for almost 20 years. My most recent claim to them was for two stoppages and two plumbing fixes. It's easy to do your service requests online. Before I paid, I saw who the claim was assigned to. Because of some issues that I've had with contractors, I'll always look them up on the Better Business Bureau website.
Before I submitted for payment to set up the service call, I looked American Plumbing Solutions up on the Better Business website. They had a 2.3 stars, which is really bad. I read some of the reviews, and most of their reviews were negative, and there were a lot of people that were very dissatisfied. I called American Home Shield and I did ask them if they could assign someone else. So, instead of me completing the request online, I called in, asked them if they could assign someone else because of that rating. I explained why I didn't want them and what I saw online in the Better Business Bureau website. The gentleman I was talking to assigned a company.
It turned out that the company he assigned only handled stoppages. So, they did not do the plumbing repairs. The guy came out, he fixed the stoppages and he said they shouldn't have put him on the repair. He said AHS has to have them reassign me for the other two issues. A guy came out and he fixed the toilet issue. I was happy about that. On the shower, he said he had to order a valve and then they’d reschedule for him to come out. I went out of town, so it took a while to get things coordinated. When he came back, he said he wasn't sure if he could fix it. He said he had to reach out to American Home Shield. I didn't hear anything back. He said he was gonna call me back, and he never did. The next day, American Home Shield reached out to me.
My issue with him is he left the shower broken after telling me that I could use it. So, I was only getting a trickle of cold water out of the shower. He did not put it all back together the way that he found it. I called him and he was like, “Well, I can come back and fix it.” By then, my confidence was shot because he said it's gonna cost me $1,200 to fix a valve. He was gonna have to break out the wall. I called American Home Shield. I was upset. They sent out another company, and the guy fixed it so that I could at least get water. It turns out that there's a sediment issue in the cold line and that needs to be repaired. They said because it's sedimentation, they don't cover it. To me, a bad valve is a bad valve regardless to what caused it.
They could make it easier for clients to reach a customer service problem if they have an issue. I have someone else who's gonna come out and look at it outside of American Home Shield. If I had a complaint about AHS, that would be assigning someone who does not have a good reputation, and on Better Business Bureau's website, there should be some type of screening for their contractors. I still recommend AHS. If you get a good contractor with American Home Shield, you'll have a great experience.
Thank you for sharing your experience and for being a loyal customer for over 20 years. We apologize for the multiple issues you've encountered with your recent plumbing claim and the lack of consistent service you've faced with subcontractors. It's understandable how uncomfortable and inconvenient it must have been during this process, particularly with the communication troubles and dissatisfaction with the assigned contractors.
Ensuring that our customers are met with professional and skilled technicians is a priority, and we're sorry that was not reflective in your recent experience. Our goal is always to offer resolutions that suit your needs, invoking trust and reassurance in the services provided.
Your continued recommendation acknowledges that you still find inherent value on our service offerings, reinforce by performance of our more experienced technicians. We truly appreciate your loyalty, feedback, and will strive to leverage this as guidance to enhance our efficiency and avoid repeated shortcomings, particularly in communications developed in business parts. I was a little surprised from time to time when something needed a repair, and it wasn't covered under my contract due to some fine print. There's a lot of that in those huge contracts and I don't always read them very carefully. So, that's my bad. But for things that are covered, I'm very happy by how they handle them. I just had an American Home Shield contractor come out and I was dissatisfied. My commode is not working. They said that it's supposed to be replaced, but I couldn't get them replaced. They did a second opinion but they sent the same company out. They came at night when I was sitting there waiting on them all day because they said between 12:00 and 3:00 or something. Around about six o'clock I called them back and they said, “He called me and said it's the same thing that I told you the other day.” I called American Home Shield back and told them what he said. The next day, they called and he got on the phone again and said that was him. They were trying to tell me they can put a commode in, but I have to go through them.
I am really dissatisfied because now I gotta wait till I get some money, and I've been paying American Home Shield 80 something dollars every month. They take it out of my account. I can't get the service unless I go and purchase a commode to get put in. They don't honor everything they said. They told me if something can't be fixed, they will replace it, but that hadn't happened.

With American Home Shield, there's always back and forth with what's covered and what's not. I called back today as something's going on with the HVAC unit. It's within the 30 days of the initial repair so I hope they don't give me the song and dance about it being a different issue kind of thing. I've also had a few issues where they'll send out a third party to repair something and sometimes they say they need to do this and that in order to complete the repair. They could just do the repair and leave me the way I was before, but they wanna do additional things and upsell me. I also like to talk to people when filing a claim but American Home Shield has reps that are out of country who have strong accents. Other than those, I'm happy with American Home Shield overall. The rubber had came out, the wire that holds the rubber around the doorway had popped, and the door wouldn't close. I called American Shield Company and they recommended SKI Electronics. Submitting the claim was very easy and the repairman that came out was very professional and knowledgeable. He explained to me that the piece that needed to be repaired had popped and he had to order it. He said when the piece would arrive, he would notify me and he'd come back out. In some kind of way, American Home Shield notified me that he was coming back out. Everything's been great since.

I had American Home Shield for two years, and they work with the worst vendors ever. My first problem started when my washing machine broke. With a wife and three children, I have a lot of laundry. My daughter is a teenager and she goes through five outfits a day. I tried to get American Home Shield to fix my washing machine. The technician they assigned came, looked at it and came back to change a part. It was the wrong part. He did it again and again and every time, it took a week to schedule the next appointment. It was not like he was coming the next day, and laundry piles up quickly.
After the fourth visit, the technician told me, "Okay, it's working." I said, "No, it's not. It's not starting. What are you talking about?" He said, "Well, in my report, I'm going to say it's working." I said, "Why?" He said, "Because I don't wanna come here anymore." So he sent American Home Shield a report that everything is working and he wrote on the form the machine is working, but it wasn't even remotely working. So I called American Home Shield and tried to explain to them. They said, "We will get a second opinion. But if they find that the machine is working, it will cost you $100." I said, "That's perfectly fine since the machine is not working. It's not turning on. So yeah, no problem. I'll stop in for $1,000 it's not working."
American Home Shield sent a different company and they saw the machine was not working. They changed and changed parts. After eight months of me suffering, doing laundry for five people in the sink like a caveman, I already knew what the problem was and I kept telling the technicians. "Stop changing the parts you already changed. This problem is with the door sensor." I showed them that if I place the door in a certain angle, the machine starts. Everything comes and starts with the way the door is closing. I begged and begged all the technicians that came, but for some reason, nobody was willing to just replace the stupid door sensor, which would have cost a lot less than the $3,000 it cost American Home Shield in parts by then.
American Home Shield offered me a $500 in lieu of offer for a machine that costs $2,000 to replace. My first aggravation was why didn't they just replace my machine? It had been eight months and they couldn't fix it. They've also admitted that they couldn't. They needed to buy me a new machine. That was the right thing to do after eight months of suffering. They said, "We don't do that." I initially declined the cash in lieu offer and got my own technician, which found the problem. Guess what? It was the door sensor. At that point though, all the parts on the machine were refurbished, so I decided to take the cash-in-lieu offer and bought myself a new machine. It cost $2,000 to replace it. So I was at a loss of $1,500 on that one.
After the washing machine, the toaster oven broke. Initially, when I applied to American Home Shield, I specifically asked, "What happens when my toaster breaks?" They said, "Oh, it's covered," but when I called for the toaster, now, it's not covered. Years went by and my AC broke and American Home Shield fixed that properly. They added freon and originally, they wanted money for it, but they gave up.
My water heater and my kids' toilet broke as well. The water heater was so simple. It's sitting on a piece of concrete in the house that people can reach from everywhere. It's not in a closet or behind anything, but American Home Shield told me I had to give them $550 for the labor because the vendor said he'll need three men to replace the water heater for installation. It was ridiculous because it was right there. A new water heater costs $400 and one person can install it in an hour. They'll pay for the heater itself, but not for the labor. Again, I was mad. Home Shield gave me another cash-in-lieu offer for $500. I took it, bought a water heater and paid a guy $200 to put it in. Again, I ended up paying more.
As for the toilet, it was really important because my kids use that. It had an issue with the pipe that had to be moved, and it wasn't that expensive to do it. American Home Shield said, "No, that's an upgrade. So this upgrade will cost you $140." My handyman wanted $150 to do this job, so I told American Home Shield, "You know what? Fine. Just give me the $140 and cash-in-lieu offer and I'll have somebody do it." That would have been $10 more and I would have had this job done.
At that point though, American Home Shield stood on their back seat and said, "Nope, we're done. We're not giving you anything for this one. We're not paying for upgrades." I said, "But the toilet doesn't flush. The poop gets stuck in the toilet every time they poop. That's not an upgrade. That's the solution to a problem." They put their foot down and said, "No, this is where we would draw the line on that one." This was the hill to die on for them. I said, "You know what? Just leave me alone."
The one thing that American Home Shield did at the end of two years was fix my AC, but all the other frustration over the two years was unbelievable. Eight months I was doing clothes in the sink, washing them like a caveman, suffering so much with laundry. They were so proud they gave me a cash-in-lieu offer, but that didn't cover even a fraction of the cost of the new machine. They tortured me. With the toaster oven, I got nothing. That just disappeared from the terms and conditions for some reason. They didn't want to fix the water heater or my kids' toilet. Even with the AC, I had to call for a second and third opinion. The first time, I was rejected to have the unit repaired. The first company said, "No, this is a physical damage." I said, "What do you think I did? Took a hammer to my own AC? What the hell are you talking about?"
The agent was nice enough to read me the entire report that the technician submitted to American Home Shield, and I googled it. All I did was I typed what they said, verbatim, into chatgpt and I asked the agent to do the same thing. The report indicated that there was damage to the plastic part of the water bin, and chatgpt said this is typical wear and tear for an AC machine of that age. American Home Shield kept fighting and fighting me along the way with everything instead of coming my way, and everything had to be a second and third inspection always. Eventually, I put my foot down and they gave me a second opinion on the AC. The second people really said, "Yes, clearly this is damage that we need to pay and fix."
American Home Shield put me through hell and I don't need to pay somebody for that. Two days ago, I decided to end the relationship with them after two years. It's not that I didn't want to keep the home warranty. Their retention people were not good enough to retain me and American Home Shield never gave me a chance to stay with them. Everything I wanted or thought that they would help me with, they denied. Everything I thought they would fix was just more headaches for me. Between all the technicians visiting, I lost about 50 days of work. I stayed here waiting for technicians, especially when the washing machine was broken. It was constant, nonstop, with the washing machine, and at the end, it was me who had to fix the situation.
It was frustrating and I will spread the negativity around. Whenever somebody asks me for a recommendation on American Home Shield, I will tell them what a horrible company this is simply because I believe it's true. I don't believe American Home Shield wants to help customers. They are in the business of torturing customers and maximizing profits over giving customers even a little bit of help. The worst part is there's not even empathy. Not even, "Oh, my god. This is the 13th time this month you have to stay home to wait for a technician. We are so sorry. We are going to give you a credit of $500 for all your suffering, for all the time you had to stay home because you didn't go to work. After 30 technician visits, we're just gonna replace your washer-dryer."
Before American Home Shield, I had another home warranty company and they were much better and quicker at fixing and repairing things compared to anybody else, but getting to that point was also frustrating. It was not easy to reach them on the phone. In order to start a claim, I had to wait four hours on hold before I could talk to a live person. I don't want to be on the phone for four hours on hold and I would have no problem returning to American Home Shield, but I seriously would have to be compensated for my time, my efforts, and my suffering. Those conditions have to be met. They have to give me back what they took from me.

I bought a new home, and they provided a home warranty. As soon as that ended, I went back to American Home Shield. I used to have a rental house for five or six years before that, and I had American Home Shield on my home and the rental house. I've been using American Home Shield off and on for 15 years and that's because they always have good customer service.
I've always had good technicians who are very helpful. It was kind of rough around the edges when the most recent plumber came in. He wasn't smiling and I thought I should leave him alone. But when we started talking, he was the nicest guy. He showed me everything that he was doing, what was wrong, how it happened, and how it could have been prevented. He was amazing. I have recommended American Home Shield to friends. I haven't had a lot of issues, but when I have, my service has always been great on both ends. When I had an issue with my air conditioner in my rental house years ago, American Home Shield was spot-on in taking care of that.

The freezer fan motor of the refrigerator and the pump for the water dispenser went out. Then, the freezer and the refrigerator stopped working. I called American Home Shield and the rep I got was very helpful. The tech came out six days later for the first visit, which was a diagnostic visit. Then he had to go back and get the parts. He didn't have the parts ready or available. Then, getting the parts took about two weeks, before he came out to visit again. He fixed all the issues and so far, everything is working good.

Maui Pools came out for our pool claim. It's a 28,000-gallon pool and it has a 220 pump. But they put in a 110 pump, which is a smaller pump. With 110, the timer doesn't work, nothing really works. When I reached back out to them, all I could do was leave a message and, hopefully, they would call me. But they didn't. They were not very responsive. When the tech came out, he said it was the pump they gave him. And it took him a month to do it, to get to that point. I was very disappointed. It's a hassle to get anything done with AHS. I don't think it's worth it.

My issue is still pending. Advanced Plumbing came in, took a part off and said that they were going to order the part. I've been calling for the last two days to find out when they were going to come and make the necessary repair because the part they took off was controlling the temperature on the diverter, and it's too hot to take a shower. It's scalding. They just found out that the part was not available and they would have to replace my entire thing.
They just did this yesterday. They had to submit it to American Home Shield, and American Home Shield has to approve it, but it is taking too long. I can buy the part and they can reimburse me, then they can come and put it in, if that'll help. All in all, it has not been a good experience thus far because I'm still without a shower.

I would recommend Myers Comfort. They were very professional. When they came out for the preseason tune-up, they found some things that needed to be replaced and they came back out and replaced them after I did a second claim. He told me step by step in the process what needed to be replaced, what he was about to check. Also, when he left, he left a little slip with what needed to be repaired, what needed to be replaced, what he checked, and what the recommendations were. I would also definitely recommend American Home Shield. When I submitted a claim, within a week, someone had already been out and whatever the issue was had been rectified.

I got the app. It's convenient to submit claims. The guy that came out to fix the oven and fridge has been awesome. We have had windings repaired. The guy that fixed the furnace was great. However, I have not heard from the local plumbing company since they came out. American Home Shield said they will not come out here again. Why hasn't anybody contacted me? I feel like I'm harassing people. I've called the companies over and over again and have been wondering why they aren't answering my calls. Are they ignoring me?
I was supposed to get the valves on my tub fixed and the plumbing company told me that they would charge $600 to do it and that we had tampered with the valves which caused the faucet to leak, but it was leaking when we moved in. It's our word against theirs. It was a big mess. We fixed one of the faucets by ourselves. We went ahead and ordered the parts on Amazon and got it done within a day. I already paid AHS $125 and the plumbers wouldn't fix it. But all I need them to do now is our toilet which still stops up.
They were jerks. The tech huffed and puffed when he came in here. He was frustrated. He sounded mad. American Home Shield told me they would find another company to do it instead, but nobody else services through them. They're the only company that works with AHS to do things. We were also supposed to have Ohio Valley Electric come out to look at some of the electric things. They never called me or showed up. It has been very irritating. AHS is so rude to me. I almost cried. I thought about switching from AHS because if I'm gonna have to deal with them indefinitely, I don't wanna deal with them.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We deeply apologize for the unprofessionalism and lack of communication you've encountered with our contractors. Your frustration is completely understandable, especially given the duration you've spent without any tangible progress or updates.
We're disheartened to hear about the excessive quote for your tub’s fixtures and the need to resolve plumbing issues yourself—this is certainly not the service standard we aim to deliver. We regret the delay in securing another contractor for both your plumbing and electrical issues and we're truly sorry for the ongoing toilet problem despite our earlier interventions.
If you're willing to reach out to our customer service representatives, we are ready to assist further in getting these issues addressed promptly. Your feedback is crucial.

For my recent claim with AHS, there were some problems with the wiring in the house. We were losing power to certain circuits that ran in different rooms. Initially, the tech came out and he changed out a couple of breakers in the breaker box and it seemed to fix the problem. But it didn't. Three days later, he came back, and he said it was something else. He said it involved a box outside and that he would get back to us. He did a horrible job of communication. It stretched for over a month.
Then right about the time the weather changed here, he had called that day and said that he couldn't do it. He said he had been sick or something and hadn't talked to us. It had been at least a week since we had any communication with him. I tried to appeal it through American Home Shield. AHS said that the tech reported it was wear and tear and it wasn't covered.
The people I was speaking to with AHS were not in the United States and they spoke textbook English, but not idiomatic English and had a real hard time communicating with at least one of them.
Finally, I managed to call back enough that I got one who spoke practical English and has a basic understanding of electricity. They told me that I could try to get a second opinion. I'd have to pay for a second deductible. They were gonna send someone out of Henning, Tennessee. They told me that if the second contractor agreed with the first and they still wouldn't cover it and that they might do the cash thing where they pay for some components. I waited for 24 hours. The second contractor never showed up, never heard from him. I called the number that AHS provided, I was never able to get a human.
48 hours later, I went on the AHS app. I canceled the second contractor and ended up finding someone local. They came, analyzed the problem and explained it to me in just a few minutes. I'm out about $3,500 for the repair. Very disappointed with American Home Shield. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. But when it works, it works. We've had a couple of appliances repaired, minor things. As far as cost benefit on repairs, even though with the monthly premiums and the deductible, it still ends up saving me some money on simple repairs.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

Never, ever, use American Home Shield. They send out poor companies that don't do shit. They are just given their $100 or whatever rate it is and they pick the worst companies. I know why. Because they're the only ones that need help. They sign on with AHS's contract and nobody will hire them anyway because their ratings are already not good. I have reviewed these companies. We decided we're going to hire a reputable company and pay a little more.
We're out of money because we've been paying at least $1,000 to $1,500 a year times three for 20-plus years. Also, the $100 charge for every service call keeps going up. 90% of the repairs that AHS has done over the years have had some type of issue or we've had issues with the company that they have sent. Never has it been done in the same day. It's a scam. I might get somebody out there in two to three days after I've called because I have to wait 24 hours after they give me somebody. I can't even call them until they get something from AHS. It's like having an HMO. You have to get a referral through such and such and you've got the lowest insurance possible and the worst doctors out there.
The contractor was given to us by AHS and called the next day. I had to get back to them. We had them come out three days later. We had an issue with them just even getting there. When they did come out, they weren't there long. They said it was something with the drum but it was based on overuse so it wasn't covered by AHS. They said they would give stuff and they would change it for $50 and to get back to them. We got back to them. Didn't answer, didn't answer, didn't answer. Finally answered, said, "That's closed. You need to call American Home Shield." Called AHS and that was that. We said, "Nope. Give us somebody else" because we wanted a second opinion. They sent somebody else out which took another few days. So, they were out of a washing machine for at least two and a half weeks.
The second one came out again. We've dealt with them before, and they said it was something different, but came up with the same reasoning. It was overuse and it wouldn't be covered, but they didn't tell us it wouldn't be covered. AHS did when I had to call again and the contractor said, "You have to call American Home Shield." I've been with Mr. ** for over 20 years. AHS was our main person for three homes they owned. We've had issue after issue and we are no longer going to deal with it again.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We're sorry to hear about the challenges you have faced, particularly with the service providers we assigned to resolve your washing machine issue. It is concerning to learn about the delays and lack of clear communication, and we understand how frustrating this must have been. Your feedback is extremely important to us.

I reported the same concern seven months ago and another company came out and said they could not fix it because it was still working. It was odd to me because it was making a lot of noise and it might caught fire. It didn’t sound right to me so I called AHS. They said if there was nothing wrong, they couldn’t fix it. I should wait till it breaks. I let it go.
Six months later, it was making more noise and I was smelling something. Excellence Air said they definitely need to replace the motor. I complained to American Home Shield and they waived the service charge. If there's an issue, they should be able to send another company out right away instead of arguing with the company that's obviously wrong.

I've done a lot of business with American Home Shield and so far, it’s been wonderful except for a couple of incidents in the last year. I called because my lights wouldn’t come on. AHS sent somebody to fix the switch but the guy did not know what he was doing. When he couldn't figure out where the switch went, he just disconnected it, broke it, and put it back in the wall. And I didn't find that out until they came back with a different tech. She opened up the outlet cover and pulled the switch out. It's a three-switch wall, and it came out in two pieces and wasn't hooked to anything, and she couldn't even find the wire to the switch. He just shoved it back in and didn’t fix that part. The outside lights came on, but the switch when you walk into the house that controls the inside lights stopped working. That meant my TV and my lights on that side of the house didn’t work at all.
My interactions over the phone have been wonderful. When I called and explained that the techs needed to come back and fix what was done incorrectly, I was clear that I wasn’t paying another service fee and just wanted my system put back the way it should be. That issue originally happened back in February or March, and they finally came back recently and fixed it properly this time. The rep did a good job and got it right. I had an issue with the air conditioner before. The technician removed a metal shield that covers the electrical wiring coming from the outside unit. He told my son he needed to take it off to access the wires, even though that cover is there to protect the electrical. They ended up ripping half of it off, then realized it wasn’t what he thought it was. They left the box hanging off my house and never fixed it.
After that, he went into the attic and stepped through the ceiling, leaving a large hole in my garage. I called to report it, and someone was sent out to fix the hole, but the repair was sloppy. He plastered it, never came back to finish, didn’t paint it, didn’t clean up, and left equipment behind. Now there’s a big white patch on the ceiling and plaster everywhere. At that point, I was done and stopped calling. I’ve been with American Home Shield for 13 years, and I don’t blame them for the people they contract with. But they should watch the people who do the work because they hire them.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! My experience didn't go well. It started from the moment I had issues with the contractor. It happened on a Sunday, but they did not come out until Tuesday. They did not touch anything. They were not professional. I wasn't aware there would be two of them. The contractor just told me one. A woman came who took pictures of everything. I asked her what she was doing, but she didn't say, "Hey." It felt off. If somebody comes into your home and starts taking pictures, you don't know what's going on.
The guy said that they would not have the part needed because I have a mobile home. Home Depot wouldn't carry that. I've already replaced faucets, so I questioned him on that. He said, “Oh, no. But this one, you can't." He didn't touch anything. How did he know? They told me they would contact me either that day or the next day to let me know who had access to those parts that I would need. I had a bad feeling about them so I canceled the service that night. They called me back a week later and said, “We've got your part.” I said, “No. I already took that.” They knew I was out of water. They had no problems letting me be a week without water. It cost me $100 from American Home Shield. I went to Home Depot. I bought the part. I got somebody to install it. And it was no big deal.
This is my first experience with AHS. I'm up for renewal in February. I'm questioning it because I'm not sure. I wanna be fair. It's not AHS's fault. But at the same time, is it gonna be worth $1,000 if I have to pay AHS, plus I have to pay the service charge, and I have to pay somebody to fix it? I'm sorting it out for myself at this point. I'm on the fence with it.
I sincerely apologize for the difficulties you've experienced. Your patience and understanding mean a lot to us. Despite any shortcomings, we are grateful that you took the time to leave a review. Your feedback is invaluable and helps us improve our services.

American Home Shield really screwed me up. I got them since I first bought my house more than 30 years ago and I've been a member ever since then. Initially, their customer service was great and I never had any major problems, until recently. I had a water leak and I didn't know where it came from. I called American Home Shield and they set me up for an appointment. The tech came on Monday and looked at it. I showed him the pictures that I've taken of the water coming across the door from the basement, and at the top of the basement door coming down the walls. He went upstairs and tried to recreate the problem. But he couldn't do it.
He looked at the thing that was in the ceiling like a tick and touched it, but no water came out. So he said that he was going to have to open up the ceiling. But I got decorated ceilings, so I asked if he could check something else. He insisted on opening up the ceiling then he made a big old hole there which I still have until today. They put in some plastic and told me to call them back in a couple of days to see if the water came. American Home Shield said they'd send somebody out to fix the hole, but they were not going to fix my ceilings back to where they were originally. They would just put a piece of plaster up there.
But lo and behold, a man came, looked at it, and said they didn't work on that. So American Shield Home Shield offered me a $210 payment so that I could get somebody to do it. I then called my insurance company and they said it's about $4,000 worth of work because the way the tech opened up the ceiling was all jagged. They have to even it out, and they have to replaster. Then they have to match the design to the design that's in the ceiling already. So American Home Shield's offer is not even enough for the new contractor to come and even out the jagged mess made by the tech they sent out. I'm not saying pay me $4,000, but $1,000 would have been worthwhile.
We apologize for the distress and inconvenience this situation has caused. That part broke off inside of there and I was told that it was not covered under my policy. The tech told me to pay him $50 because it wasn't covered. So I paid him and then I called American Home Shield to get a refund for my $100 copay. That was when the rep told me that I shouldn't have given him any money at all. American Home Shield told me I will be reimbursed.
American Home Shield is absolutely wonderful. I've never had a issue like this before at all. This wasn't really a big deal. I've used them several times and everything has always been great. Even when I called to report this to the person I spoke to, she was absolutely wonderful. I was all upset. I'm a older woman, and it seemed that that tech took advantage of me. When he asked me to pay him, I said I would put it on the credit card. But he said, “No. I can't take your credit card. It has to be cash, check, or Zelle.” I thought that was funny. When I paid him, I paid him to his name. I shouldn't have done even any of that in his name and not the company name. So I should have known better.

When you're the customer you really don't want to hear that. Bottom line, after two vendors, they could not find a third one to come to my home to resolve this so they denied my claim and cited a clause in their contract. No one ever calls you back. Our Realtor gave us American Home Shield, It is the best gift I received when we purchased the home. I never even heard of it. We've been using it ever since. The garage door wasn't closing. It seemed to be a sensor issue. I went online to schedule a request and there was a drop-down. The tech explained everything step by step. We had to replace the sensors, which he did. He also oiled up the springs for longevity on the garage. The door is closing in the cold, so I'm good.
I always tell people they should look up AHS because the warranty is so important. It saves much money than replacing the entire item. What I like about the service is some of the things that are covered that I don't have to vet contractors because that could be a painful headache. However, it will be good to see from a functional standpoint if more things can be covered when calling for service. Sometimes, one of the items in the garage isn't covered. I had an extra expense.

I had two toilets that needed repair and A&M Plumbing came out. I did my claim to AHS through the website and explained to them about the toilet. The assigned contractors were both professional. They both explained what was going on. It just so happened that the other one didn't work like they said, and they had to come back out a second time. I was really impressed with the guys and how professional they were. They were timely.

If I could give a zero star review I would. Organization is designed to deny claims and frustrate customers submitting a valid claim. Their vendor incorrectly diagnosed an issues (stated the wrong room) and was impossible for them to correct the claim or send the vendor back out to reassess. Their foreign call center just gave me the run around for days. Charged me $100 to do so. It isn't insurance, it is a scam to charge you $100 for someone to come out and deny you valid coverage.

The electrical part of our pool was shorting out and tripping the breaker. I called AHS and putting a claim in, which was very easy. The tech they sent out was pretty good but they couldn't do the repair on the spot because they had to get approval from AHS. It took about a week but the approval came through. Then, we got a new motor and a couple of new check valves.
American Home Shield's claims process works and it only takes usually a day before the recommended contractor gets ahold of me and schedules the service. But they could have a better approval rate on air conditioning systems, especially the older ones. Also, I've had other things fixed at the same time they did my pool deal. They fixed my dishwasher and they assigned a different contractor for that. But he came out quickly and he was very efficient. The issue turned out to be something that was fried in the system somewhere. Overall, I would recommend AHS as they've treated me well for many years.

When I spoke to American Home Shield over the phone, when I had issues with the representative at the time that I scheduled the appointment, the rep said that I would not have any out-of-pocket expense. I asked her a couple of times. Did I have to pay anything out of pocket? Did I have to give the repairman anything? She said no. It was taken care of. The tech did an excellent job. He was very polite. The issue was resolved. But after everything was over with, there was a charge of $125 to my card that I did not approve.
When I signed up AHS told me that any time there's a service charge, it's $125. But I was informed that I didn't have anything to pay so I didn't expect them to charge anything. It was not okay for the rep to mislead me like that, then turn around and charge my card. I could've fought that because of what she said. If I needed a service call, they would ask me if I wanted to charge it to the card that's on file. That never happened. It was a loss because I'm sick of my calls going overseas and I speak to people who barely speak English.

I have proof that the technicians requested it to be replaced, but they did not, until the final time we asked if he could record his call, and he did, and then I had no choice but to file it for replacement. But it took a good 10 weeks of having no refrigerator for American Home Shield to do anything about it, which was incredibly frustrating. They offered the cash-in-lieu offer yesterday. My claims with American Home Shield have been an interesting odyssey. There was a double issue. The dryer was not working correctly. We had to slam the door to even get the dryer to go. Once we did, things were either very wet or burnt. The other issue was the ice maker quit making ice. I called AHS to file my claims and I spoke with a person. Getting the claim submitted was just fair because of all the numbers you had to push. Then I had to speak with someone that had their script and had to tell me 14 times, "We're here to serve you. We can help you, not to worry." It's a call center and they've been trained with scripts. Between the accent and the script, it got tedious. They finally drilled down to what I needed and got it started.
A service tech arrived for the dryer, and he was here for about 40 minutes. He had to order parts, so he had to come back. That took a bit to figure out when he was coming back. I had to call AHS again to get him scheduled to come back because I never heard back from him. It took him another time to come back because the dryer was still doing the same thing. He showed me some different settings. Then he told me to remember, once I close the door completely, I gotta push the bottom in so it's sealed because if it's not sealed, it's probably leaking air. It doesn't sound very functional to me, but the last time I used the dryer, things came out a lot better.
As far as the ice maker, it was fixed. We took the bucket out for making a big batch of ice for a group coming over, and put it back in. It went back to only making crushed ice. So, I called the service guy and he came back out. He looked at it and he called someone. I was told, "I can show you what to do if it does that again." I said, "No, this is a rental. I can't try to tell someone renting this what to do if you take the ice bucket out and it goes back to crushed ice." I will put a note on it to say, "Don't move the ice bucket or you'll only have crushed ice for the rest of your life." So, that note is on my ice maker for the next person that comes and uses this. You can still get ice and crushed ice if you push the buttons on the front but if you take that thing out, it's gonna toggle something back in the back where you will only get crushed. So, I'm not happy at all. I can't say I like anything about the service with AHS. Using the whole system is silly.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. I have been a customer of American Home Shield for years, and the way they handled my dishwasher repair these past two months has been nothing short of outrageous. What I experienced feels like negligence, bad-faith handling of a claim, and a complete failure to provide the services I pay for every month. Here is exactly what happened:
So now I’m stuck paying nearly $100 out of my own pocket to hire someone else to pull it out for them — something that should absolutely be part of what a home warranty covers.
October 16 – After they returned, I was told parts were needed and would take 3–5 business days to arrive. November 10 – The parts finally arrived — almost a full month later, not 3–5 days. November 15 – The dishwasher was “repaired,” but only after sitting disassembled in my garage for weeks because I could not have it blocking my kitchen. And after all of that, the technician informed me that they do not reinstall dishwashers and I would have to hire someone else again to put it back.
This was 49 days without a working kitchen. My kitchen sink was disconnected. My counters were unusable. My life was disrupted for over a month and a half because American Home Shield could not properly coordinate or manage the vendors they assign. I pay for this warranty in good faith. AHS’s actions — and inactions — clearly demonstrate: Breach of the implied warranty of workmanlike service. Failure to provide contracted services. Gross negligence. Bad-faith claim management.
What is the point of having a home warranty if I have to spend my own money hiring additional technicians just so your contracted vendors can do their bare minimum? At this point, I am prepared to escalate this situation to the California Department of Consumer Affairs, the Contractors State License Board, and file a formal breach of contract complaint if necessary. Someone from American Home Shield needs to contact me immediately to address the unnecessary stress, the financial burden, and the complete mishandling of this claim. This experience was beyond unacceptable.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

I had a Maytag Bravos dryer that the motherboard went out. The first interaction with the contractor was perfect. I live out in the rural part of Louisiana. American Home Shield gave me a contractor to come out, and the day the tech was supposed to show up, he informed me that he was too busy and he had told AHS that. They turned me over to someone else, and they came out a week later. The servicemen knew what they were doing. They came out three times over a period of four weeks. Every time they said it was the motherboard, the part is not available, and they would have to replace it. That started on the 12th of September, and ended early part of November. It was a royal pain to be without a dryer that long.
AHS would not accept what the people kept telling them. I would call them and they would tell me, “We're waiting on them to tell us that.” All I knew is the repair people told them that, so I don't know where the mess-up was. I went ahead and bought a dryer and replaced it because I was tired of waiting. Before it got delivered, AHS sent me a notice that, "Yes, it has to be replaced and we'll replace it with this or you can buy what you want, and we'll give you this much money.” Eight weeks after I called them about the dryer, they finally decided that it was not repairable. They gave me a check for the old dryer, and I purchased a new one. It was frustrating to talk to people who didn't have any authority. Now they told me, because it took so long, they would also waive the $125 fee. I haven't seen that on an account, but maybe I will see it.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you faced with your Maytag Bravos vortex issues specifically. Clearly, this situation took longer than anyone would have liked, particularly complicated by the availability of contractors in your area. It's disappointing to learn that communication shortfalls added to the unnecessary delays.

American Home Shield sent Albatross out to fix my dryer. It wasn't drying the clothes. This was the second time, and they just said it was a part that was rather extensive. The dryer doesn't seem to be hot-hot. When you take clothes out of a dryer, they're usually hot-hot, but they're not-hot. I just left it alone. I dropped American Home Shield because this was the second time. This summer I had an air conditioner that needed fixing, and I was told by the repairman as well that it was a leak in my air conditioner. They couldn't find it, and so I paid 170 some dollars for Freon to put in there. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that if you take and put Freon in your air conditioner and then the temperature drops, the Freon is not gonna leak out, especially if it's a small leak.
The air conditioner actually needed to be replaced. One of the repairmen had mentioned that it needed to be replaced, but they did explain that any time they checked the levels with me putting that Freon in there, it was gonna show that the levels were correct. So to me, that was a way of American Home Shield avoiding replacing and just patching problems. I was concerned about that because we went over and over.
As a matter of fact, I had to call American Home Shield several times to have them come back out, because once they got the diagnosis that the air conditioning was fixed or could be fixed, they just walked away from the situation and nobody ever told me what the diagnostic was from American Home Shield. Then they had claimed that they never got the diagnosis, but I know what the man told me. The same thing happened with the dryer. The guy said the part was rather costly, which is another dryer. This is the second time that the dryer has had that problem and instead of replacing it, they repaired it. So, to me, that's patchwork. At that point, I was done with American Home Shield. I pay a monthly premium. I pay on time. I've been with them for a long time, and I didn't feel like that was fair treatment.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're deeply sorry to hear about the issues you've encountered with both your dryer and air conditioning unit. It's concerning to learn that despite repeated repairs, a lasting solution wasn't achieved and clear communication about costs wasn't up to your expectations. There were two claims with American Home Shield. They happened differently at their own pace. One was the icemaker. The first time, the contractor came in a week, and it turned out it was not the appropriate part, and they had to come back a week later with the second part. They told me the second one worked. When we used the hot tub, it blew a fuse. Something shorted. I submitted my claim online. However, I would have liked a little more information about the contractor. I never even got a name. But it worked out. I got good communication when an individual was to go on that day.
What I like best is they showed up and supposedly fixed it. However, they were not great when they finished, saying, "Here's a picture of it operating. Here's what we did." It was like, "Yup, it works. And we're done. We're leaving." I would have liked more knowledge. I'm not at that house often. It's in a different state. I have no proof or verification that it worked when the contractor left. "Here's what we replaced. Here's the part number, should you ever need it again. Here's our paperwork warranty." All kinds of thoroughness of what was done in completion.
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience and suggestions. We're pleased to hear that our online claim submission process was efficient and that our representatives provided you with timely communications. We understand the importance of having detailed information about contractors for peace of mind.
We're sorry for the inconvenience you experienced with the incorrect part delivery and proud we restored your hot tub effectively on the second attempt. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We're sorry to hear about the frustrations you've encountered with contractor coordination and communication through your service. We strive to ensure that every member feels assured and informed when issues arise in their homes, so it's concerning to hear we fell short in your experience. We're not happy with American Home Shield. The realtor suggested them and made a big mistake by doing so. Everything they say is, “Preexisting, preexisting, preexisting,” even though we just bought the house and it wasn't on the inspection report. We had no idea that stuff was happening. And the Realtor said, “Oh, I'm gonna get you this. That'll make sure if they didn't disclose anything.” It's not happening because all AHS does is say, “Preexisting.” I'm just throwing away $100 bills to have people come out to give them their estimate and them saying, “Nope. Not covering it.” They should cover the things that aren't working, that when a person buys a house, that the Realtor suggests them.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

This is my third year with American Home Shield. I had a two-year contract with them which I renewed. However, I have an issue with a lot of the providers that they send and the follow-up with customer service. I had a recent experience where the washing machine got a shirt stuck in the drum. They sent somebody out who didn't really do much of anything. Then they wrote up a report that was a complete lie. They said I overstuff my washing machine. Not only do I not overstuff it, I am one of those people that intentionally only puts half a load in, ‘cause I'm scared if I put too much in, it won't get clean. I hate drying more than a half a load so there is no way that I overstuff it or that they ever asked that or they ever knew that.
I called American Home Shield and asked them to send me somebody else. They said they were gonna charge me $100 for the same opinion. I told them the people they're sending out are terrible. It took two days and three calls and they were saying they gotta go by what the provider said. Finally, they waived the $100 and sent out a different company. That different company got that shirt out in 30 seconds and fixed it.
The same thing happened a year earlier with a plumber. He came out, looked around and said I got $14,000 worth of work and it won't be covered by American Home Shield. He didn't even take anything apart. He just looked at the piping and said it's piped wrong. This has been piped this way since 1991 and there's no way it's piped wrong. Somebody else came out and the problem was solved in 10 seconds.
Everybody at American Home Shield is polite but their hands are tied and there's not much they can do. There should be some sort of system when that happens to not make the second opinion be a charge ever. Or they should send out their highest rated professional on the second time as a matter of course, and not some horrible shady lazy people. If I hadn't been this persistent and pushy as I am, I would have paid 700 for a new washing machine.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

Our bathroom fan went bad. I reached out to American Home Shield. They sent out someone who was completely unprofessional. He walked in through the front door, talking about mama drama stuff. He was a complete joke of a technician. He rigged the fan up. I reached back out to AHS, and they dispatched a different manager who then rectified the issue and apologized.
I did the claim on the app. I really like how AHS changed up the app. The app was really user friendly and easy to navigate. Other than that, I really haven't had any complaints. American Shield has taken care of anything that's gone bad. They have been great. There was another previous repair where they sent out a guy to fix plumbing and he started wrapping plumbing with electrical tape. It was a complete joke of a work. I called in and they sent a manager out. They fixed the problem, and I'm back to being a happy camper again. It is just a little disappointing when you have to do things twice to get it right.
Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about your experience with us. We sincerely apologize for the initial inconveniences you encountered with unprofessional conduct from the technician and the plumbing issue. It's heartening to know, however, that our managerial team was able to swiftly step in to rectify matters to your satisfaction. I talked with somebody from American Home Shield. The tech fixed what he needed to fix. It was good. It has been working out since they repaired it. However, I had a lot of problems with the AC, and the guys didn't do a good job. I ended up having mold there. If it was more than 30 days, and these people would not fix it. I didn't feel like it was fair at that time. And I had to pay a lot of money. One of the companies that AHS sent installed a new one. They didn't say anything about, "There's mold here. We cannot do this." So, I was very disappointed. My insurance had a high deductible, so I had to pay everything out of my pocket. I was not happy. After that, AHS increased the price. I'm done. I was gonna cancel because it went up so much. The rep lowered the price and gave me a coupon for a one-use service. So, I'm fine.

The AT Appliance guy came twice to my house for the same issue. The cube part of the ice maker was working, but the display on the top on the refrigerator didn't work. The first time he came, he said, “Well, the ice maker is working.” I said, “I understand it is working. But I bought this refrigerator two, three years ago. And I bought it with display because I like the display. So, the fact that the display doesn't work means that it needs to be repaired to me.” But he said, “No. It doesn't. Yeah. It just works. And goodbye.” I didn't say anything that first time because I didn't know which instructions this guy had. I would just talk with American Home Shield, explain it to them, and they will send the guy again with new instructions.
When the guy came again, I was working from home and I was in a conference call with my boss. The guy came with another person and I said, “I need you to wait 5, 10 minutes because I am in the middle of a call. I cannot just drop it and go to you.” He was grumpy but didn't say anything. Then five minutes later, he just left and gave me the computer to sign. I told him, “Listen. You cannot leave like that. This is the second time they sent you. And I need a report. And you should be able to wait a few more minutes.” Then he said, “No. I have other clients waiting. I cannot wait.” And he just left. So I called American Home Shield and told them, “I don't want to see this person again. If this is the only company and person you have, I will cancel the service because I'm not going to be mistreated in my own home like that.”
So far, whenever I have called American Home Shield, they have listened to me and they have taken action. After I told them that I didn't want that person to come out again, they sent another company, Simply Beautiful Maintenance Appliance Repair. I liked that guy very much. He worked on that report and it was approved. I am pleased. Simply Beautiful Maintenance Appliance Repair worked fine for me. The guy gave me all the explanations. He was very customer-oriented, with good manners.
Sometimes waiting on the line with American Home Shield, it takes longer than I wish. The visits are not as immediate as you wish it would be. So I wish that if I call for something to be repaired, they will come the next day or, maximum, the following day. Normally, it takes like a week for a person to show up. In the case of my refrigerator, it was something that was not as big of a deal, so I didn't care. But if it were the air conditioner, I would have a problem with that. I pay $125 whenever somebody comes out. If I didn't have the service and I just go and call somebody when something is broken, I am sure it will be cheaper for me. But American Home Shield gives me the peace of mind that I don't have to go and search for somebody and that the things will be repaired.
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed experience with American Home Shield. We apologize for the initial inconvenience you faced with the repair service provided, and regret that the interaction with the first technician was not satisfactory. However, we're pleased to hear that the alternate service through Simply Beautiful Maintenance Appliance Repair met your expectations and helped address your refrigerator issue.

The contracting company that came out was pretty good. The only thing I can complain about is that shortly after he left, I called and asked them to call me back but I never got one. What I like most about the service is their system, I can file a claim online. However, sometimes the system that I need for service is not listed. They tell you to select one of the systems, like for example in a heating system, it says a furnace or some other type of heating system but the one that I have is not listed.
I think that the amount of coverage was better with American Home Shield, but the service fee is a bit high, which is 100 bucks. I got two policies, the one on my property is $125 for a service call and my home is $100. The other companies that I’ve had before, it was $65 for a service call, so it’s a big difference.
Sometimes it also takes too long for me to get service. lf I file a claim, they will contact you within 24 hours and a lot of times, that doesn’t happen. In an emergency situation, like here in Chicago in the winter time, if my heat goes out, I gotta wait about 24 hours. And then I get a message saying that it is waiting to be assigned. The next thing I know, three days have passed. That's not a good thing.
Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We’re glad to hear that you found the process of submitting your claim and using our app straightforward. We regret the inconvenience caused by your follow-up call not being returned promptly.

When I made an appointment with American Home Shield, I had to pay the deductible for someone to come out and the service was very prompt. However, there was nothing wrong with my furnace. The tech told me that Nicor suggested that I get it checked and he found nothing wrong at all, so he didn't fix anything. The only thing he suggested was that I put a new filter in, which I did. He was honest. That was my first time using American Home Shield, and I had to pay then, so I didn't know that they would reimburse. Other than that, everything went fine.
I got the home warranty the beginning of this year and I believe they lowered my monthly payment without me knowing. I was almost sure that it was supposed to be more. I'm not mad about it, but I have a lot going on right now, so I can't keep up. I also had my account compromised. Even where I live, some people were doing the infrastructure on the street and they messed up a lot of my stuff on the outside. I'm in the process of filing claims, and I got one settled. I also had a backup, which I went through my regular insurance for.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It's good to hear that the initial examination of your furnace didn't require any repairs, though we understand the guidance from Nicor to get it inspected. The service fee structure involves upfront payment when scheduling an appointment, covering the professional technician's visit and thorough assessment of your appliance, but we regret any inconvenience it may have caused. Should you have any further questions about billing or need assistance with another issue, please reach out to us. American Home Shield's purpose is to take people's money and tell them they have no coverage. I'm sure there are people who have used their warranty and got coverage for big and expensive problems, and it protected them. That has not been my experience. The buyer should beware. A warranty service where the first thing I'm told is, "You gotta give us 100 bucks before we'll talk to you," is not a good set up. A more thoughtful approach would be American Home Shield would have some interaction with customers and help them diagnose their worry. If I'm not gonna get any coverage, they can't do anything, waive the $100. Otherwise, nickel and diming people every time they make a call is obnoxious.
We saw signs in the house that we had recently purchased. This was a week or two after that. There may have been a bit of water leakage associated with the shower stall in the master bathroom. We had this American Home Shield warranty that the seller had paid for, so I contacted them. I used the website to schedule a service call. My first impression of AHS was, they wanted $100 before they do anything. I put in a credit card charge for that, and they assigned this to Diamondback Rooter Service. A gentleman from that company went out after a call or two, and looked at the shower stall and the concerns we had. He gave us some recommendations. One of them was get areas in the shower stall regrouted. He said, "Your home shield warranty will not cover anything like that. So just be aware of that."
He said there may be a valve seal or some component of the shower head that might be leaky and maybe our warranty would address that. He also said he would submit a report to AHS about this and see if that would be covered. That was the last I heard from AHS for a couple of weeks. I don't know what was in the Diamondback Rooter report. I don't know what AHS did with that. I got emails that said, "We'll review this and we'll disposition it and get back to you." But I heard nothing.
I called the American Home Shield and asked what is going on with the claim. I talked to a nice young man that said, "The Diamondback Rooter report said there was some water damage that should be regrouted." He mentioned nothing about a valve in the showerhead. He said if there is such an issue, that would have to be reported as a second service call. I wasn't excited about the prospect of spending another $100 to have somebody tell me, "We're not gonna do anything. You're not covered." After I found out that AHS considered the matter closed and would provide no coverage, I took matters into my own hands. I've contacted other contractors to help us deal with these issues in the house, recognizing that the warranty is useless, and we're gonna have to pay ourselves.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

Pronto Plumbing showed up but they said they would not be able to fix the issue. They directly pointed out to the city guys. I reached out to the city, and they immediately showed up. But the city guy said the Pronto guy should have cleaned the roots. Upon calling Pronto again, they were not disclosing as to why they were not cleaning the roots, and they simply pushed on the city guys. I was in limbo and the situation got worse when there was an actual risk of flooding inside my home. I had to call emergency plumbers. I called Roto Plumbers at night, at around 11 o'clock. Those guys came up at around 11:30pm and they charged me $900 for the service.
Had Pronto mentioned they do not clean the roots, I would have taken alternative measures. I would have called some other plumber who could have done it for much cheaper price. We were expecting Pronto to tell me AHS doesn't cover all of those things up. I didn't knew about it and since they were not telling me properly, I had to call the emergency guys who were really expensive.
I had told American Home Shield about it and they said they could set up a second review with another plumber. If the second review found out there was an issue with Pronto, then AHS would initiate whatever background process that they would have to do with Pronto. But the thing was the Pronto guys came on Thursday, and on Friday, I called the emergency service. AHS called the second review, but that plumber was scheduled for Tuesday of the next week. Since I was in an emergency, I went ahead and called the emergency guys.
I pay $125 per call fee with AHS, and my monthly premium is also on a higher end. I would expect that they would have some sort of emergency guys who would show up in less than 24 hours. But they don't have that. Also, every time you book someone through AHS, if you go and see the reviews somewhere, usually, they have lower stars. For the appointment, you have to wait for two or three days.
Thank you for sharing your constructive feedback regarding your recent experience with American Home Shield. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you faced with the initial plumbing issue and the challenges encountered between Pronto Plumbing and city representatives. Your suggestions concerning urgent response measures are invaluable to us.
We appreciate that your overall experience with American Home Shield remains positive, despite the setbacks encountered. Thank you for acknowledging our efforts in proposing a secondary review beyond Pronto Plumbing's service.

American Home Shield was offering a good promotional rate on their home warranty when I signed up with them. I did a lot of research, and they had the best price. Recently, I had a broken pool pump. It was leaking. I had purchased the pool equipment coverage so American Home Shield sent a contractor out to take a look. It took them four or five days to get to me. The pump was leaking pretty severely by the time they got there. Then they told me it just needs a new housing 'cause there's a crack in it, and that they would send the report to American Home Shield. They said, "It shouldn't be a problem. Usually, within a day or two, we get the approval from them, and you'll get your pump fixed."
American Home Shield then contacted me in turn and said that the contractor's report said it was my fault, so I was gonna have to pay for everything out of pocket. When I tried to get ahold of them to discuss that, they did not return my text messages or my phone calls. I had to hire somebody else out of pocket to handle it.
I've had a positive experience with my washer but I did not have a positive experience with my water heater. It was wishy-washy. That was because there was something American Home Shield didn't spell out clearly in the terms when I was signing up for the policy. In my coverage sheet that they provided, it wasn't clear that I was gonna have to pay for all the labor, electrical work, piping and things that would go along with replacing a water heater. That put me $1,200 out of pocket. They only covered the equipment and not anything else that is involved in replacing a heater to code. Their online claims process is very easy, but you don't get the information you need to understand your policy.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We're happy to hear that you've had a positive encounter with resolving your washer issue and found our online platform user-friendly. The last two claims I've done with AHS was for the water heater, which was turned down. The guy told me that AHS turned it down because he put down that it's because of the fumes and it's my fault. AHS denied any compensation and I was on my own. Another claim was for the washer and I canceled that because the guy did not show up in time.
AHS is one of the biggest insurance companies for appliances. And the management is not doing a very good job to keep it in the right place. They should hire people that can speak good English. They keep asking the same exact questions. Every time they transfer me to a different person, they have to ask six questions confirming that it's me. It's very silly, basic questions that I've answered over and over. If there is also a chance that somebody can take care of the claims more timely, that'll make a big difference.

American Home Shield is a horrible company and I would not refer them to anybody. They have people that don't speak English and don't know what they're doing. The techs have come out 11 times and American Home Shield dispatched three different companies to my home because Astro kept telling them that the refrigerator couldn't be fixed. Finally, when my lawyer sent them a letter, they settled out with me and told me there was a clause in my contract that is very small, buried into a multi-page contract that I bought on the telephone, that says my maximum settlement on all appliances in a calendar year is $2,000. So, when they deducted everything that they did to service this broken refrigerator that didn't fix it, they sent me $209 and said that was all that was left.
I have AHS in my previous house for 18 years and in this house for three years. It's always a struggle with them. You pay your money in America, you deal with the Philippines and they refuse to transfer you back to the United States for a phone call. My microwave kept going. When I opened it to get the food out, the fan started up and I was afraid microwaves were coming out. That happened five times and I couldn't get it to stop, so I did a service request through American Home Shield's online platform. It was easy and I immediately got a text saying who was coming out. They were good about communicating. My only complaint is instead of replacing the 29-year-old microwave, they replaced this tiny $15 part called a door switch relay and stuck it back in. I made an incorrect assumption, thinking they would replace something because it was so old, but that was not the case. I paid the $100, which is almost the cost of a new microwave. In hindsight, I wish I had my husband look at it first. I could have saved myself some money.
The thing with the microwave was really aggravating ‘cause microwaves are so cheap these days. I understand American Home Shield's rule that if it's not totally broken, they're not gonna replace it, but it's $100 a month with another $100 for the deductible and I don't know if I'm getting my money's worth. We were discussing the other day whether it's worth it to keep it or not, and I don't know that it's gonna be cost-effective for us going in the future.
We've been with American Home Shield over 20 years, since we moved into this house. The coverage has come in handy with our pool, but if it's anything related to the air conditioning or the heating, then we might end up waiting days once they diagnose it to get a new one. There are also all kinds of stuff that aren't covered when they have to replace things with the air conditioning and the heating. There was a drain line on the kitchen sink leaking in the underneath the house. I submitted a claim through a call and did a deal on American Home Shield. As far as the contractor that they sent, I could find a better one in an alley. They didn't really look into much detail. They didn't even scope the pipes. They didn't really do anything. They came up with a suggestion to run it over to a vent line before they even did any research and figured out where it was leaking at.
It's fixed now but by somebody else did. I didn't go with them. American Home Shield denied their offer. So, I had to go with something else. I shouldn't be paying for AHS. Don't ever buy it. It's fraudulent. They won't help you with anything. They say they're there to help you, but they have so much hidden underwritten things that you never even see. So, they might as well just go ahead and be like all the other insurance companies and just fuck off.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We sincerely apologize for the unsatisfactory service related to the repair of your kitchen sink drain line. We aim to maintain high standards of service, so it's concerning to hear that these were not met during your interaction with DDX Plumbing LLC or regarding the advance communication about our contractor choices. I like that I don't have to search for a contractor. I turn in the problem and American Home Shield assigns a contractor. I've used them a few times over the years. The contractors are very responsive in setting up an appointment. It's quick and easy. AHS is insurance. If you wanna buy it, you can fix things as they break and pay for them. It's a good peace of mind to know that no matter what breaks and what the cost is, it will be fixed. It's a risk kind of decision.
I went to AHS's website and requested service for my furnace that wasn't heating, and they assigned the contractor to me. It was easy. The contractor contacted me to set up a date. I was down there when the guy opened up the furnace. He seemed to know what he was doing. He said there was an issue with a pressure switch. He had to make a second trip because they had to order the part, but it's fixed.
Thank you for recounting your experience with American Home Shield. We’re thrilled to hear that the service was convenient and met your expectations in addressing the furnace issue. American Home Shield has been great so far. I have them for around four years and their customer service has been good. When I have a claim, I do it through the app and it's very easy to use. Usually, the timeframe for getting a tech out is good. But the last time I had a service request, it wasn't that smooth. They were trying to schedule me a week out, and I just couldn't wait that long. But that's more on the contractor than it is on American Home Shield. Other than that, the technicians I've had were professional and I've had no troubles at all.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are delighted to hear that you find the American Home Shield app straightforward and our technicians professional. American Home Shield is hands-down the most misleading, incompetent, and unprofessional company I’ve ever dealt with. Their marketing and account pages use broad blanket statements that make it look like certain items are covered—but the second a technician shows up, AHS suddenly calls to cite some obscure line in the contract saying the repair actually isn’t covered. It’s bait-and-switch, plain and simple. The customer service reps are a whole different nightmare: untrained, inconsistent, defensive, and completely unable to give a straight answer. Every time I called, I got a different story. When you point out their contradictions, they get defensive instead of fixing the issue. It’s clear they don’t know their own policies.
On top of that, they’re borderline stalkerish with the amount of unsolicited follow-ups, yet somehow never available or helpful when you actually need support. This company is a waste of time, money, and energy. Save yourself the frustration—do not sign up with American Home Shield. They mislead customers, hide behind fine print, and deliver the worst service imaginable. Avoid at all costs.

My water heater went out on a Thursday. I filed a claim with AHS on Thursday. I was told that someone would be out to take a look at the water heater on Monday. On Monday, the assigned plumber showed up, took pictures, and sent them to AHS for review. I was told that I would not have a water heater until Wednesday. The phone conversation with AHS for approval was completely incoherent, as the person didn't even speak English. This service is a scam. I had three other plumbers out within 12 hours of the water heater breaking, and offered to help, but obviously at a higher cost. AHS does nothing but gum up the process so you don't file claims, and staff their phones with people from another country. I am cancelling this service, and I recommend everyone do the same. The assigned plumber was aware of their tactics, and offered me advice on how to get it cheaper and did a great job overall.

We received a non covered items quote from AHS for $2214 and when we asked for details they provided us with a list of items that were declined on the claim because it was "over the plan limit" ($5000). So we called the contractor to get details on the full estimate and the quote for the whole job is $2214. So confused we call AHS back and asked them to explain why the quote from the contractor and what they were trying to charge was the same and once again the same script and list was read off to us.
I asked for a detailed list of what AHS was covering and got an "unfortunately we can't see that" but "AHS was covering some parts." How can you see one list and not the other and if the quote is $2214 and AHS is "covering some of it" why is my out of pocket the same $2214? No one can explain to us what they are covering but are very quick to push the cash in lieu option. They lie about the reasons to not pay the claim so they can low-ball you on the cash in lieu option because it's always lower. AMERICAN HOME SHIELD IS A SCAM!

Then Choice made me an offer I couldn’t refuse and I attempted to contact AHS to cancel the start of their plan. Nine minutes on hold, 34 minutes talking to four different people and finally got an agent, barely English speaking, to cancel the plan but she refused to send me a confirmation and promised an email to state that. Five days later no email. Makes me glad I didn’t stay with them if this is an example of their customer service. I’ll keep a close eye on my credit card billing in January.

American Home Shield is good for what they're good for, but I would never recommend them to anyone because the contractors are bad. I also pretty much don't like the way they operate. I'm gonna continue to pay for it just in case somebody got something minor going on, but I'll say it'll be a bad experience, probably, every time.
I do my claims on the app. It is easy to navigate. I've talked to customer service plenty of times about the problems. So, it's easy to schedule something on American Home Shield's app, but they're supposed to contact you within 24 to 48 hours, and sometimes they don't do that. So, then I’ll have to call in and say, “Hey, what's going on? I placed this,” and to speed them up so that they can call the contractors and try to get them to reach out to me. The contacting them is friendly, but they're not helpful. They'll tell me, “Okay. I'm sorry, but this is how the policy is. There's nothing more I could really do.” They'll just be talking to you all day, but not say anything.
On their website, if I place it on Monday, they have up to like 72 hours to respond or come out. So, sometimes a contractor will call me as soon as I place the claim, probably like 15 minutes after. I had one incident when I placed it on Monday, and they finally called me on Thursday. And the lady had a leak. So, it was leaking this whole time. So, I had to get another contractor to do so and they got mad at me when I gave him a bad review.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

I have tenants in the condo in Connecticut and they reported that when they were using the dryer, it was making this weird noise and there was this smoke coming from the dryer. So I opened a thing with American Home Shield and they sent out Sears to look at the dryer. When the technician got there, he said he wasn't authorized to look at anything besides the actual drying unit, and he wouldn't look at any of the ducts. So long story short, there was nothing wrong with the dryer then the technician suggested that we contact someone to clean the ducts and that the smoke was likely coming from ducts that needed to be cleaned.
After that, I tried to open another American Home Shield claim, this time to go look at the ducts. The techs who came out said that it was not covered and that I would have to go outside of American Home Shield to get someone to do that. And that was what we did. We cleaned the ducts on our own, and everything was back to working order. But I was a little upset because since American Home Shield didn't resolve the issue the first time, they should have returned my $100 service fee for going out there.
Other than that, I started the policy in September and I decided to get the service because I've had American Home Shield before. I've known other homeowners that have it and I wanted it more of a peace of mind-type thing, knowing that I have someone that I can call, that will go out and look at the thing, and fix it. There's an offset of cost that is also a perk. Unfortunately, it didn't work out this time with that particular problem. Also, when I first opened the service request online, American Home Shield routed me through someone besides Sears and I was advised that within 24 hours, the technician assigned to my case would contact me and schedule a time. But the vendor wouldn't call me and it was very problematic.
It took about four days before I finally picked up the phone and tried to call them, then I left them a message. Then, they tried to call me back once and they left me a voicemail, but then that was it. So, I got on the chat with someone in American Home Shield and I asked them at that point to have another vendor. The agent said they cannot because of the way the system is built and to give them until the next day to call me. I didn't believe it at all but I waited and it ended up being another week before I tried to call them again, and left them another voicemail. American Home Shield also tried to email them but they were unsuccessful.
When I came back and I got on the website chat function, I asked American Home Shield to please reassign the case to a different vendor and at that point, the agent said that we had to cancel the pending one and redo it again. That was when we got into Sears and I was able to get in touch with them within a day. So I was totally pleased and happy there. But because of the tenant's schedule, they were able to come out only the following week.
We also have American Home Shield at our main residence and we live in California. Something is going on with our furnace, we have a carbon monoxide leak in it, and we're waiting for them to give us an appointment to have one of their people come out and look at it. And I feel like we're going on three weeks waiting for an appointment. Then, earlier this year, we had to make a claim for a new water heater. We got the money and everything was fine. But in general, American Home Shield is very slow to process service requests and to get a vendor out.
Warm regards,
Marc

I’ve used the warranty a few times — once for my dishwasher and once for my AC — and both times the repair people came within a couple of days and got the job done. It definitely saved me money compared to calling someone out on my own.
That said, the process isn’t always perfect. Getting in touch with customer service can take some time, and sometimes you have to follow up to make sure a claim is moving. Also, the contractors they send can vary — one was excellent, the other just okay. Still, for the peace of mind and the coverage it provides, I think it’s worth it. I never got it fixed. I had to go out of pocket. I even tried to reach out to report what was going on. But I couldn't get through to anyone. I was so disappointed. I went and bought me a new one. I've been with AHS for years. I've never had a problem with them up until now.

I have an American Home Shield with our Louisiana home and we've always had good service, never had a problem. When we bought our home in Texas, they wanted a copy of the home inspection because it was built in 1961. American Home Shield said our appliances were just too old, so we replaced them all out of our pocket. They also said that the air conditioners are older, but that eventually they'd have to be replaced. They never said anything to us that they weren't gonna cover it.
After some time, the AC had a problem. Home Shield sent out a service guy and fixed it. He did the maintenance and said that we are good for a year. So the same unit goes out, this time American Home Shield stated that the unit couldn't be replaced because it was too old. That's not acceptable. We've had American Home Shield for three years and we've done what we needed to do. They said that we weren't maintaining it, and yet they know for a fact it was maintained because they have the records. It's now caused a huge water damage to the top of our ceiling. We have mold now growing, and no air conditioning in the front of our home. Our home looks like it's trashed. I am on oxygen, we're not young folks. Thank God it's cooler weather. We don't mind paying a portion, but we're not paying for the whole unit.
I don't want to complain about American Home Shield because they are amazing in Louisiana. I've only had to use them four times and they've been phenomenal. Here, it's like pulling teeth to get and I'm sure somebody's out there ripping people off. When I call AHS, they listen. I try to tell them that I'm being aggressive but it's not towards them. It's just the situation that is of grave concern to me and my husband. We have an eight-year old child in the home. This is not professional.
We have two air conditioning units. When one of the outside units had to be replaced, they said they can't cover it all because of the age of the system. And I did say, “But you said that it was gonna be covered.” We didn't mind. We paid for the unit and they paid for the install.
With our water heater, they paid a portion and we paid the majority. We understand that we're gonna have to put money out. I'm very knowledgeable about my policy. I paid the monthly premium and I know that it's gonna be out-of-pocket cost when I call for service. But I can't see paying them every month, then paying for a service charge just to be told they’re not gonna cover it. If they’d told me at the beginning, we would have found a different warranty program.
I still recommend them to my family and friends when they're buying homes. I want more people to use their service. It really is an invaluable service to have, because over the long run, there are some major issues a house can have. But American Home Shield has always been good people. This is the only area I'm having a problem with.
We appreciate your detailed feedback and are sorry to hear about the difficulties with the recent service for your AC unit and the issues in Texas. We understand how important it is for our service to match the urgency and expectations of our clients.

The AHS agent I worked with offered a few months free before I had to start paying. Despite having this promise in black and white in an email, once I signed up, I was told differently. Then they sent a really crappy service provider. He took out a very bad old part to replace the part that I have problem with. He thought I walk away. He took it from his backpack, an old wheel from a dryer and he tried to wipe it and tried to put grease on it. He quickly put it in and he said, "You're not allowed to see what I'm doing." I called American Home Shield and told them. But it took a while for them to send me a new one. California Appliance came out and I was very happy with them. They were very professional and knew how to run their business. But with AHS, they failed to honor their commitments fully. When I approached them with the evidence and sought fairness, their response fell short.
Thank you for sharing your experience with American Home Shield. It’s clear that there were several instances where our standards fell short, from unfulfilled promises around the free months offer to issues with service consistency. We’re glad that your interaction with California Appliance was positive and highlighted the type of service we strive to offer with every claim.
Your feedback about unforeseen changes to your service terms and further complications is definitely concerning. We understand these situations can be frustrating and appreciate the opportunity to address them. Please reach out to us directly if further assistance is needed.

I called AHS to submit a claim for my washing machine and my dishwasher. My experience with the rep was pretty good but my experience with the contractor was different. The first contractor showed up through the window that they provided. Then when they got to my home, the tech saw my dog in the cage that was locked up. The tech said, "I have a phobia of dogs. I can't do this," and left. I had to get a new contractor. I wrote them an email and I communicated with American Home Shield. The second tech came a week ago and told us we had to order a part for both the washing machine and the dishwasher. So I'm waiting for that tech to come back.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are pleased to hear that you found filing the claim was a smooth process and appreciated the assistance provided by our representative. We regret to learn about the inconvenience you faced with the initial contractor visit. We take such incidents seriously. We appreciate your patience regarding the order and replacement of parts for your appliances, and we are actively working to fast-track this as efficiently as possible. We’ve been paying for American Home Shield for peace of mind, but this experience has done the opposite. Our over-the-range microwave timer display is so faded that the numbers are basically invisible. You cannot read the timer at all, which makes it very difficult to use. We called American Home Shield, gave them the full model information ahead of time, and were told to schedule a service call. We paid the $100 service fee for a technician to come out. After all that, they denied the claim, saying the microwave is “technically a counter monitor” and therefore not covered. That makes no sense for an over-the-range unit, and they already had the model information before sending anyone out and taking our money.
We asked them to reconsider. They sent a second person out, who agreed the display is not usable and you can’t read the timer. But American Home Shield still refused to cover it because, in their words, it “technically works” and still heats food — they just don’t cover anything related to the display or legibility. So we’re left with a microwave we can’t properly use, and we paid them $100 for the privilege of being told “sorry, it still heats.” If they knew they were going to deny it based on the type of issue, they should never have sent someone out or taken the service fee in the first place. Very disappointed with the way this was handled and will be rethinking whether this warranty is worth the money.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.

I am extremely disappointed with the service I’ve received regarding my refrigerator. For months, my family and I have been left without a properly functioning fridge, and the experience has been nothing short of exhausting. Technician have been sent out multiple times, yet the issue remains unresolved. Each visit feels repetitive and unproductive. Communication has been difficult, due to a language barrier; making it even harder to understand what is being done or what the next steps are. I have not been given clear communication about whether parts were ordered, when they would arrive, or who has the authority to decide if a replacement fridge will be sent.
Being told that the company will “exhaust all options” before agreeing to replace the fridge is not acceptable. Meanwhile, my family and I have to throw away food that has gone bad, spend unnecessary money eating out due to a non working refrigerator. This situation has caused unnecessary stress and inconvenience. A refrigerator is an essential household appliance, and the lack of urgency and transparency in resolving this issue is unacceptable. At this point, a replacement should have already been provided.

My hot water heater started leaking. Initially, I found it easy to get approval from American Home Shield to hire my own contractor since their vendors only work Monday to Friday, and it was a weekend. The first representative indicated a $50,000 policy limit for plumbing, which sounded excessive, but I was reassured. However, when I later got an estimate, another representative informed me my policy only covered $1,500 for plumbing. It took another 24 hours for them to even begin the approval process, creating a lot of stress.
Complications multiplied when American Home Shield insisted on an itemized bill, which my contractor wasn’t able to provide, leaving me stuck in the middle. Even providing a tentative hourly rate was met with rejection, claiming $0 was more in line with the job description despite knowing this was entirely incorrect. Throughout this process, communication was cumbersome and frustrating – escalating to repeating conversations and misinformation on undergoing repairs. They even got this completely wrong, accusing my contractor of finishing the job when they hadn't done any actual repairs yet. It felt like being continually stonewalled.
I reached out to my realtor who connected me with a contact at AHS. After that, the turnaround seemed almost immediate with a different contractor, M&P plumbing, who was exceptional and commendable in their work. Despite finally resolving the issue, my rocky experience leads to mixed feelings – praises for M&P plumbing's service but serious disappointment with American Home Shield’s handling of the process. Overall, I can't recommend American Home Shield for their customer service.

The last claim that we had was for our dryer, which was just a week ago. It would make noises every time it would spin. The technician saw what the issue was, ordered the parts, which took two weeks, and then he came back, and was in and out in a flash.
We have recommended AHS to family, and they’ve joined AHS. However, my wife was quite disappointed and concerned that the prices went up. I know that she called but ended up having to take a second policy with a different company for the HVAC system. We had major issues with the boiler or heating before and so, it’s a backup insurance.

We were with American Home Shield for 20 years and then we moved over to this house and got the new contract. The house was built with an ice machine and unfortunately, periodically, it would break. It was covered on the policy. This year, I called it in and when the rep came out, he said they don't cover freestanding. They only will do the refrigerator that contains an ice machine. So, we never used that because we use our ice machine. When I finally got through to someone, they told me that my contract no longer covered that. I was not aware that it didn't. That wind up costing us $700, and we took care of it.
When the AC went out, the guy said the issue was a coil but my contract doesn't cover that and I have to pay. He started throwing all these numbers at us. AHS offered us a settlement, but they said they would not cover the unit. That was what really upset my husband. We still wound up having to pay almost $3,000 to repair our air conditioner, which we were gonna do because no one wants to be hot. Our main concern is why are we paying for warranty when we're paying for what happens to the appliances when they break, and then we have to pay a copay.
I've spent over almost $4,000 on things that I thought were covered for paying over $1,200 a year for a policy for. The warranty is not honoring it. So, it makes more sense to save my own money since I'm paying for my own stuff anyway. This morning, I called to cancel and they wouldn't even let me cancel. I have to call back. That solidifies why I don't need to do business with them. It's frustrating.

American Home Shield is better than Choice because I have had AHS in that property for a while on and off. When I moved into my other place, I got Choice. They were the worst. However, AHS has not been great. Sometimes, they are. It's not the worst, but they've gone downhill. I wish there was better customer service. I had a call on a Saturday while I was at a funeral that my tenant's air conditioner thing was out. I called AHS. I ended up speaking with somebody in the Philippines. It got cut off. I called again. However, I don't have time to sit all day and be on the phone waiting for somebody to answer and it possibly gets cut off. I called the next day to get somebody out. I thought of not renewing my policy. So, they gave me these two free service credits. I asked them if they could send somebody out. They had to verify the service credits.
I get that people are using these call centers in these other countries because it makes life easier. But it is condescending when somebody reads off of a script and says, “I'm sorry you had this problem and la la la.” You can book stuff online, which is easier to do than talking to somebody. But because I had to talk to somebody about my stupid credit thing, that was a nightmare. That should just be on my file. I should be able to book a service when I need a service. Sometimes you just need to get service faster than four days.
They were supposed to call me back in an hour. They ended up not calling me until the next day. By then, it had been two days without the air conditioning thing. I called a local person and had them deal with it. That was what a service fee would cost. Capital Cooling could have done what I needed but I couldn't wait four days because I'm not living there. When I was on the phone with them, already super annoyed, I said, “Why don't you come out and just do the heating check?” They did.
This year I had to buy a new dishwasher because the thought of going through what I went last year with them, I'm gonna have to spend $800 in therapy, either that or buy a new dishwasher from Costco, because the whole experience was stressful. The people that come out, most of the time, have been good. It's just this one time with this dishwasher guy. He came out three times. He took the dishwasher. It was gone for a month but they didn't put it in right. I had to pay somebody to install it correctly. But within a year, the dishwasher broke again. I called AHS. I said, “Y'all need to just replace this dishwasher because something's clearly not right.” I told them I'm gonna call Costco and buy a new dishwasher because I couldn't stand it. I had to pay $125 to have it sealed because it's these tenants. I wish they could escalate it to somebody in the United States who could understand it better.
The contractor did that service where they come out and check your heater. It was a service that they offered when I signed up annually. I had this done last year. I said, “Let's do it again.” I called American Home Shield. I'm not crazy about them, but this is the one good thing that they offer. I said, “I'd like to take advantage of this.” So, they came out and did it.
I don't know if I'm gonna renew AHS because I don't trust the system anymore. Any time somebody comes out, it's $125. When I had to get that air conditioner guy to come out right away, he was $180 for the visit. The amount of aggravation and time, that guy was worth it. However, American Home Shield should have at least given me $125 back because I had called them multiple times, did not get through, had to wait for somebody, they didn't call me back until the next day, but I had already got it done. I could have waited a day or two. But I called multiple times on a Saturday and got disconnected, and called again and had to wait to get the approval for the free service that I was supposed to get, and they said they would call within an hour but didn't until the next day.
Thank you for providing AHS with your valuable feedback regarding your recent experience and the repairs completed under your contract coverage. We appreciate your input and are glad we could assist you.

The repairman said he changed two different things including the compressor. Then when he finished, he told me that I needed a compressor reducer. He said the air would come on and off so it wouldn't work all the time. He also said it wouldn't be covered by American Home Shield. He wanted to charge me $350. I told him I didn't have $350 so he went down to $250 then to $200. I told him I still couldn't do it. I ended up calling my friend who's an air conditioner specialist and he said he'd never heard of a compressor reducer. I called them back and told them that the issue was not fixed. I had been waiting over a week for them but they hadn't responded. They finally responded yesterday. The repairman called me and said he'd be out here in about 30 minutes.
At first American Home Shield said they were gonna send out another company. But they were sending not only the same company, but also the same person back even though I told them I'm not comfortable with that person. I've also called American Home Shield for my washer twice so I had to pay twice for that situation. They replaced it, but I had to pay the difference on the unit. Additionally, every time I call American Home Shield, I still have to go through three different channels to get to the right people. I don't like that. I also can't understand their English and I got to keep on repeating myself.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

The fan on a rental property wouldn't go on. A repairman came out to fix it but he couldn't get it on. We were sitting there talking, and he was playing with it. He flicked it with his hand but it didn't work. Then he did it again and it turned on. He said it didn't need to be replaced. What I didn't like was he said I gotta do some code upgrades but I don't need to do that. It's just how they make their money. But he got it fixed so I gotta give him credit. If I go there next week and it's fine, he saved American Home Shield money. The problem is I only have 30 days. If it goes out in 60 days, I'm in trouble because then I gotta call back and pay another service fee. But I liked the company. Their communications were great.
Right now it's easy to submit claims with American Home Shield. Five years ago, it was impossible. But they've improved and done a great job. They also have a video feature where you can show them what the problem is and they'll help you. That's awesome. I also like American Home Shield because they try to fix things. I don't want anything replaced. The new stuff today is not the best stuff. They don't last as long. When they can fix something, that's great. I had a refrigerator and the ice maker went out on it. I asked for them to get it fixed as it was a great unit. They couldn't, but I gotta give them an A for effort for trying.
I encourage people to get American Home Shield. It's a great plan for the most part. It give me peace of mind. I've got my mom and dad to have policies with American Home Shield, and they've had them for years. I would continue getting the home warranty for my personal residence, for my family, and for my rentals. I always check the contractors out and I've noticed that they all have high stars. American Home Shield has gotten rid of a lot of bad people, which is good. They also have gotten a lot of companies that want to make sure that the customer's happy so that their star rating is high. I like that. The only disadvantage with American Home Shield is them allowing contractors to try to do modifications and other stuff that don't need to be done.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy the coverage American Home Shield provides!

I've been with American Home Shield at the beginning of 2022. Cecil & Sons usually does the tune-up for my AC and the heat system. They come once during spring to check the AC and they come once in fall to check the heat. I'm always happy with them. They are a really reliable small family business and I trust them. Most recently, I had an issue with plumbing. I put the claim online, but I had an issue with the claim and all the follow-up was mostly done by phone. My plumbing claim was not resolved, and American Home Shield just canceled my request. So, I had to fight. I was not very pleasant. I told them that it's not professional to cancel a claim based on what they want without informing their client and I left it at that. I was so frustrated.
Overall, when they send a contractor that is excellent and professional, everything is fine. When they send a poor rep, that's when the problems come. They try to not replace anything. They try to fix things as much as they can. I'm keeping the warranty because I have an old house and I don't have a choice. I'm a fair person. I can understand both sides. So, I understand they can be useful. The tune-ups are free. American Home Shield is giving me two free tune-ups a year, which normally would cost me $125 or $200. I can't complain about that. But if I could do without a home warranty, I would because it's not to the level of quality of service compared to what I pay for.
When something is right with the service, automatically, they send the satisfaction survey. As soon as something goes wrong, magically, they forget to send you the link. I was expecting to receive the link to the survey because I really wanted to give my feedback about that whole experience that was really awful. I wasted tons of water. My water bill is going to be a nightmare. They never came to fix the leak. That was annoying, but I never got the survey.

The contractor originally came out to get the unit up for the winter heating season to make sure everything works fine. The tech did it last week. Three days later, it got cold and the unit didn't turn on. I called American Home Shield back and they said, "Okay. We'll put the request through." Four days later, the same company and mechanic came back to the house, went upstairs to the unit, looked at the unit, and realized within 30 seconds that he never turned the gas back on to the unit when he was there four days earlier.
It was a big deal at the time because I had my grandkids there and it was cold in the house. It was upsetting. But it was only for one day. We dealt with it. That was my main concern. I was charged $130 for a home visit fee for the second time that they came back. When I called AHS back and explained my situation to the rep, she put me on hold for one minute, came back on, and said, "I can't do anything for you. That was a legitimate charge." I immediately told her, "Either you didn't listen to me or you don't understand. I wanna speak to your manager."
Two days later, the manager called me back and said, "You shouldn't have been charged." It was ridiculous that the rep couldn't make that decision herself. It almost sounded like she was from another country. I had to go through all the steps. It was a legitimate mistake that the mechanic made. He immediately apologized, turned it back on, and got out of my hair as quick as he could. I appreciate that. Because I worked in the field myself and I know how it is. But it was the stuff after the fact that I got pissed off at.

American Home Shield is a very good company and they tried to help me with my claims. They take my concern and try to do it for me. After I request a service, everything is supposed to be finished within a month. But when I requested for the maintenance service on the refrigerator three months ago, the techs didn't finish it and it has not been done. Another thing is, AHS doesn't have good contractors. Those who come in my home and fix things are not good except one guy from Alpha. Recently, United Air brought the washing machine to me and they were not cooperative. Last time they came, they didn't want to turn the valve because they have the policy not to touch it since it has rust. But I talked to AHS and they sent me someone else who didn't find anything. He cleaned up and did a good job on that. Everything was good and the unit was in working condition.
The same thing happened this morning. United Air's techs told me they didn't want to touch the washing machine but there's nothing bad in there. So, I turned off the valve by myself and I took out the cable from the valve because I didn't want to touch it and they were not cooperative anyway. Next time, I don't want them to come to me. There were three companies who came to see the washing machine and they couldn't fix it. Finally, Alpha company came and they're the one making the final decision on that.

I've had American Home Shield for 14 years or so and this year has been the worst. We had a plumbing issue and the first plumber came in and gave the wrong diagnosis. So we got a second opinion. They came in and replaced the shower valve because it was leaking. The issue was fixed, but I was without water for over a week and a half and they said the work that was done was a modification even though nothing was modified. I sent them before and after pictures showing that there was no modification made.
The contractor sent me a receipt that said $400-plus for a modification and I paid that, but there was no explanation whatsoever of this modification. I said, "Can you at least put what pipes, sizing, linear feet of pipes, type of pipes, whatever you modified? Explain it." Nope, it just said modification. To me, it felt like the contractor just wanted to put something different on his diagnostic so he can get me to pay something out of pocket.
There is no other way to replace a valve but to open the valve, and to do that, one definitely has to open the pipes. There's only one way. The contractor said, "Oh, no, my manager said it's a modification." It was just the shower valve that had an issue, but I had to come out of pocket for something that they're still hiding behind the bushes. I have a feeling that American Home Shield and the contractor are both in bed together. American Home Shield hasn't given me a clear explanation why they considered that as a modification and not a replacement if the part is actually covered. They said, "We're gonna run it through the authorization department. We'll get back to you." This has been open since last week. I emailed them this morning, but I haven't heard back.
Calling American Home Shield is not the greatest experience because I want to speak to someone who is from the authorization department or a supervisor. Usually, I just get people that can barely understand me, and when I finally get a supervisor, if I get that, it's after an hour and a half of wait. I have all those conversations recorded and I got the emails. I'm just waiting for them to get back to me to see if I'm going for legal action or if they're gonna resolve it. American Home Shield came through for the past year, but this last time is probably gonna end up in court.

My husband and I are senior citizens in our 80s. I'm 79 pounds and he's 104 pounds. The handle of our shower come out. We couldn't put it back. So we called American Home Shield. The first plumber had the nerve to tell me, "Oh, I may have to go under the wall for it, so this is a lot of work. I really don't think we should do it." Then he said in the presence of another individual in my house, like almost as a joke, "Oh, this is not regular wear and tear. You all have put too much weight." I told him, "Look at our hands. Do they look like we have the ability to open a jar, let alone break it?"
American Home Shield, very graciously, and I am thankful to them for that, sent a second plumber. He stood there with my husband and me and our house manager and told three of us, "Oh, this is absolutely normal wear and tear. We know. And I see you guys. There's no way. And I'll let American Home Shield know, and we'll get it fixed." Then nothing happened. I kept calling and calling, and then I was told, "Oh, you know what? The second plumber also confirmed that it's a regular wear and tear."
I called the second plumbing company twice, and the guy said, "Oh, I'll check with our plumber and get back to you." I said, "I know what your plumber told me. I have a witness, too, apart from my husband. So, please don't change your story." He said he would call me. But he never returned my call. I called American Home Shield a few times and told them, but nothing happened. But each time I called American Home Shield, the reps were so nice and said, "We'll put it back again. We'll let our leadership know."
The reality is my husband and I, fortunately, can spend a couple of hundred dollars, which we did, and got our own plumber. He is an experienced guy with hundreds of 5-star reviews. He fixed it for 200 and some bucks. I bought a part for him, and that was extra. But my frustration is we've been American Home Shield customers for about 30 years, and this is how they treat us? How do they vet their subcontractors? Are these people professionals, or are they deceitful and liars? It is of grave concern to me that they can twist the story like that, so they don't have to pay.

We have our furnace and air conditioning serviced every year to make sure that it's running properly. We do tune-ups and our person found an issue with the capacitor, so we called American Home Shield to come out. We had three technicians. The first one found the same issue, but with the way he wrote up the report, the claim was denied. AHS sent a second person out and he could not see anything wrong with the unit. AHS sent out a third person whose camera was broken, which doesn't make sense as to why they would send out someone with a broken camera. He said it was the same problem based on how other things were, then he wrote it up, but with how American Home Shield asked their questions, the claim was denied again.
When I said, “We're gonna go back and fight that,” the customer service rep laughed and said, “Good luck.” I said, “You put it in that a possible reason could have been the capacitor” and the lady said, “We wrote in there that it was broken. It was unsafe.” They said they asked for multiple reasons as to why this happened, so the tech gave a couple of reasons as to why it would happen and those reasons were why the claim was denied. That was exactly what was read to us as the policy. They read the full report and used that to deny coverage two times. “You can't do it because it's worn out,” but there was not a possibility that there was an issue with the capacitor. They asked a leading question, then turned around and used that leading question against us.
Up until this past week, we have had American Home Shield for 15 years. This is our fourth home that we had them. I submitted service requests online and it was easy. However, the customer service is very frustrating and that is why I stopped being an American Home Shield customer. All the customer service did was read the policy as to why our claim was denied, and I get it. They have a book in front of them that tells them that this is what they say, so that's all they did. There was not any customer service until I went to the next department where they were trying to talk me into not leaving as a customer.
I'm older and I've been married for 45 years. We've moved a lot recently and when we sold our houses, we automatically purchased an American Home Shield policy for the next people to offer as we moved, because we believed in it. We've only had three claims in the entire 15 years that we've been with them. So, it was not like we were trying to get an entire new everything.

I did not like the vendor that America Home Shield sent to me. I had a plumbing issue that needed to be resolved fairly soon. Everything was backing up. But it took me four days to get somebody to go out and check. When I talked to American Home Shield on the phone for over an hour and told them about the urgency of the plumbing problem, they sent the vendor out without the correct information. So they didn't bring the right tools. We just kept losing time and I couldn't wait anymore. It was too bad because it was a $34,000 job. More problems were being created because of it. It wasn't a fun process.
When I spoke with American Home Shield, they said, "We're gonna have the plumber call you." Then the plumber called me. I had to hire somebody to give him access to be there. Then when the plumber was there, he called me and I told him what the problem was. He said, "Well, I didn't know any of that." I said, "Well, why wouldn't you?" He said, "Did you tell us?" I said, "No, but I told the insurance company for over an hour." He said, "They didn't explain any of that to us. They just said plumbing problem. That was it." So an hour of conversation and all they put down was plumbing problem. I did not like American Home Shield and I would not use them again.

Prices keep increasing year over year...better off to save your money. As a Canadian $82 is well over $100. I understand costs keep increasing but AHS doesn't offer good products as replacement. $100 to repair 3 items only and 1 type of repair. When trying to cancel the operator was pushy and I had to start yelling to get the cancelation done. Kept trying to sell a reduced price and free months. She just kept talking until I threatened a lawyer.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

The technician that was sent out for my HVAC system agreed with me that the issue was normal wear and tear, but then when he made the report, he made it sound as if we had misused it or mishandled it to where it was not gonna be covered. I was at a loss as to why he would say that it was normal wear and tear or agree with me, and then flip the script and make a bad statement on our part. It's only a two-year old system and going forward, it would not be covered because of his report.
I called American Home Shield and reported this situation. They said they would send someone out. However, if they sent him out and his report wasn't sufficient, then they were gonna charge me another service fee. So, I told them I'm not willing to take that risk and I would just do something different down the road. They did offer me a credit in the form of monthly payments. They told me it would be a refund, but it ended up being a credit towards my monthly payment on the service contract in the amount of the service fee from the original claim.
The part wasn't fixed because the technician really did me dirty. However, I don't want to use that company again. AHS said if I ever had a claim on HVAC, it wouldn't be that company. I don't know if that's indicative of the whole company or if that's indicative of the technician they sent out. Either way, it's not worth the risk. There's lots of HVAC companies. I'm gonna get my problem fixed eventually on my own, but not through that company or through the home warranty because it's expensive.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy the coverage American Home Shield provides!

When I tried to have American Home Shield find another appliance repairperson, they said there was no one else available. Why do I bother having AHS as a warranty coverage? It was six weeks. I eventually had to hire someone outside of the warranty coverage, pay $300 to have it repaired. They had to do a lot of repair to what the initial repairperson did, because he broke a bunch of stuff on the microwave.
I'm an easygoing person. I'm mellow if I would allow it to go six weeks. I've never been treated so rudely and disrespectfully. It became like I was an irritant to them. How dare I question them? When all I asked for was my microwave to be repaired. It was an awful experience. There was an obvious disconnect between them and the appliance people. They said I did not reply to the email request to schedule an appointment which was not accurate. I waited for a part to be delivered. It was not delivered, not even ordered. Something happened somewhere on their side.

They said the system required a replacement which would cost about $1900. I was told American Home Shield would cover the rest of the expenses. Then when I saw the quote online, it was 3,500. I was trying to figure out why it was so much. They tried to give me a buyout. If you go to Home Depot and try to buy a furnace, the lowest is $2,000. AHS offered $600. What they offered did not make sense. They transferred me to somebody to talk to on a certain day to find out why they were only offering $600. I was told it was because they buy in bulk. It just didn't make sense to me. What I did was I installed their bad parts.

The AC stopped working upstairs and we had a company come out and tell us what was wrong. It ended up being more than we thought it would be to fix. So, we said we would just go through our warranty with American Home Shield. They sent Advanced Comfort Solutions and the tech diagnosed the same problem. They said that they had to try repairing the AC first instead of replacing it. They tried to repair the leak in the evaporator coil and fill it up with Freon. Predictably, it worked for an hour and then the leak happened again. So it stopped working. They planned to have someone come out and replace the evaporator coil. Then, we got a call stating they're gonna come out and re-attempt to repair it and fill it up with Freon again. We told them the AC needed to be replaced. It was a simple solution.
American Home Shield tried to get in contact with the contractor to see what was going on but no one could get a hold of them. We got the approval to get a second opinion. Then my wife finally got a hold of Advanced Comfort and the guy started screaming at her on the phone because she was upset with how it was handled and she told him that. AHS shouldn’t use this company. It sounds like they didn't want to replace the evaporator coil. It's about to get cold and they were waiting for the cold to come in and we would forget about it. If anything, AHS is the one that would have an incentive to play games. But they don't seem to be.

The service with Elite Home was very good and positive. The technician was very informative. He was very assertive with his information that he was able to provide for us in the service that he was performing. He came out in about two days from the time that we put the claim in. The washer was irreparable, and they had to replace the entire unit. He said a bracket that was holding the tub in the washer wasn't available because it was a little bit of an older model. We did the claim online to American Home Shield. It was simple. We've done it before and it's actually improved. Before, it took a little more time. Now, it seemed more swift. We were told that it was gonna be a month before we got a replacement, but it ended up being a couple of days which was great. Overall, American Home Shield has been really good. They've taken care of us. They're as advertised. I've referred several people to them. They're spot on with their service.

My pool pump and my ice maker went out both simultaneously. I submitted a claim online then the tech came out. But I had to do an appeal because I got denied. They had to send somebody out as a second opinion because of what the guy wrote the first time. He said the pool pump was submerged underground, which it wasn't. It was on a cement slab. I get where he was saying maybe it needs to be raised up. But that's something that I would have to do and take care of. It has nothing to do with the pool pump. When the second guy came out, he wrote up exactly what he saw and talked about the pool pump only and everything was perfect. They were able to get it fixed. They had to replace the pool pump because all the bearings were bad inside of it. It was a very seamless process with AHS. Even having to go through the second opinion wasn't that difficult, but it just took more time.

West Coast Chief Repair, the contractor for the the dishwasher that wasn't working, was good to work with. They were very efficient, responsible and professional. They're one of the best companies that American Home Shield works with. Most of them are disasters. But with West Coast, they call and set the appointment right away. They call before they arrive and let you know what's going on. The communication is great and my tenant was pleased. They left, ordered the parts, and came back. I was pleased with them as well.
We've had American Home Shield for over 25 years and it got to a point where it was a disaster because most of the vendors they were working with were dishonest, incapable, and unprofessional. These people are con artists, and American Home Shield would send them to people's homes. I was also extremely displeased with them because they raised the rates but didn't offer anything. Many times, I would call the people myself and pay for the service because I couldn't waste my time and my tenant’s time having them send these terrible people. But they're trying to improve the quality of the vendors. Arsenal Plumbing and West Coast Chief Repair are two companies that send professionals, and they're there to resolve the issue. All the other little ones, all they do is charge for the visit but do nothing for us.
When it comes to customer service, I deal with a concierge. Otherwise, it would be impossible. You would get these people overseas where you barely understand what they're saying. American Home Shield needs to get people who are a little more competent in the English language and knowledgeable. They're saving money, but they're not making our lives easier, because we cannot communicate with them.
I have some properties that have high-end appliances, so I need a special vendor who is certified. They will say the vendors are all certified. We set the appointment and they come out but they tell my tenant they don't work on Viking or Thermador and leave. They waste everybody's time then they do it again. I have to call my own person because my tenant needs the service, and American Home Shield will not guarantee that they will send a person who's competent. Their website is unreliable as well. They schedule you with the worst vendors. Then you can't get out and you pay the deposit.
I've seen the downfall of a company that was fantastic and offered a much needed service in a very competent and professional manner. Then they started cutting corners and they became this company who offered nothing but headaches. Now I get the sense that American Home Shield is trying to redeem themselves and regain their customers. They're trying to hire better vendors. But it's yet to be seen whether they will actually follow through and become a reputable company again.
We appreciate your loyalty over the years and your optimism about recent improvements. Our goal is to continue earning your trust and delivering the dependable service you expect. If you ever need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help!

I had my appliances checked - my washer, my dryer, my fridge, and my dishwasher. Allure said that the dryer and the washer were fine. I was asking them about certain aspects. They didn't go into detail. They said it was something else.
For the refrigerator, the freezer section’s drawer wasn't opening and shutting properly. When it would shut, it’d leave a gap. They said they had to replace the track. In addition to replacing the track, there was a little gear in there that was supposed to be replaced. The gentleman replaced the track, but he never replaced the gear. He told me he had to go order the gear. That's why I don't agree with those Zoom type first inspections because you're not gonna see everything that you need to see in person. Now I have to wait for an additional call for them to come back.
I had asked them about my dishwasher. Because the first time, when the initial call happened on Zoom, the dishwasher wouldn't power on. They told me I have to have an electrician come out. An electrician came out and looked at it. We just learned it was plugged into the wrong outlet. Then there was no water going to it. So, we powered it on. I made sure the water was on under the sink that led to the dishwasher.
On that day when the gentleman came to change the slide, the track for the freezer, we checked the dishwasher. The dishwasher not only powered on, but the water came out. He said, “Okay. It's all good.” I don't know if maybe the water pressure needed to be built up for the dishwasher, but he felt like it was all good. He finished the track for the freezer. He was gonna order the gear and left. I left the dishwasher going. When I left the dishwasher going and went back into the kitchen, there was water all over the floor. I called him. He said I had to call AHS. They said they were relaying it back. So, whenever they were gonna come do the gear, they were gonna check out the dishwasher.
Then theyy had called me and wanted to schedule for them to come change the gear. I said, “What about the dishwasher?” He said, “Oh, no. You need an electrician to come out for a dishwasher.” I said, “No, I don't. The electrician's already come out. That's already taken care of.” He put me on hold and when he got back, he said they couldn't do anything about it. If I wanted somebody else to come out, I had to call American Home Shield so they could call back and send me somebody else because everything was fine on their end.
It was a couple of times of back and forth with AHS. I finally got a rep and she was polite but snide. She said, “Let me tell them to close this off, ‘cause we can't move forward unless Allure closes whatever they need to close off.” She said she was gonna put in a new ticket. She said, “I just want you to know that we’re gonna send somebody out. But if they come out and nothing's wrong, you're gonna have to pay for it.” I said okay. They sent Hotshot out and they saw it was a leak. They fixed it. I haven't had a problem since. The tech was also friendly and came in and took care of their business right away.

The technician who came out for my HVAC tune-up came without a camera. He didn't look inside the HVAC. He checked the connection and changed the filter and was gone. That's not HVAC tune-up. I can do that. This is the fourth or fifth time I have done that. I have asked technicians to come for tune-up, and they come with camera. They look inside if there is any crack rather than just sticking outside. This guy came and he just looked outside and checked the flame. It's burning blue so that means there is no CO2 emission. That was his analysis. He just came to make sure that connection is okay. It was not effective enough. HVAC tune-up means that you check inside completely and if there are any parts which are going to fail. This guy did nothing.
If I talk to a representative at American Home Shield, they're really good. They try to resolve the things. They're really professional and they try to explain things in detail. Whatever question I have, they respond quite well. However, there is also a long wait time. I understand that there are so many customers that might be calling at the time. But they could have an option like if the call wait time is 20 minutes or 30 minutes, they would be able to call me back, rather than me hanging on the phone for 20 minutes then getting into a call with the representative. Plus, the menu option is not clear. If I just want to speak directly with a representative, there could be an option to do just that rather than going through some 10 menu options. Another thing is the service call fee is pricey. Every time they come, even to change a bulb, it costs $125.

We had a recurring plumbing issue. The people that came out to fix it originally refused to fix my kitchen sink. Another contractor came out and said they were fixing something. They fixed it but it only lasted a minute. Then they came out and said they couldn't fix the other thing. After I gave them a 1-star review, they refused to come out to my property based on the fact that I reviewed them poorly because they did a bad job.
Attentive Plumbing came out and fixed it in a shorter amount of time than it took for the previous company to decide how to figure out how to not fix something. They are are good guys. They are nice and responsive. Those other people could have fixed it when they were out, but they spent more time trying to figure out how to not cover things. It was also very frustrating for me because American Home Shield could have given the claim to Attentive Plumbing. I had to wait a couple more days although they could see in the record that the other company already denied me once.
When I first put the claim in, American Home Shield had to reassign it and do a new thing. I paid the service call twice. I told them what needed to be fixed but somehow, the wrong thing came on the work order. American Home Shield told them to see if the contractor can just accept the new one. But they refused to accept the new thing and take off the old thing. I tried to fight American Home Shield to reimburse me, but they never did.
I'm considering just canceling American Home Shield. For the $160 I spend a month plus the $125 fee, I might as well just save my money and pay the full amount when there is a problem. Unless you have the right vendor, a lot of them just spend more time trying to figure out how to not fix something. I've had American Home Shield for a long time, and it's not been a great experience recently. It seems like every vendor is looking to not do anything. They're lazy and have all kinds of stories, and I'm stuck paying the $125 service fee. Having American Home Shield is not worth it anymore. Half of the time, nothing's covered and a lot of time, the contractors want me to pay on top of what I had already paid American Home Shield. Also, I normally get a non-English-speaking person and they don't understand. There have been all kinds of miscommunications which have happened then it would fall on me, which is awful.

We had a faucet that was not closing so we had to shut off the main supply and we raised an emergency request to AHS. They said it's a 24-hour turnover. The representative whom I spoke to was really understanding the situation and she acted really well. We got assigned a couple of people who never turned up, but the last person who turned up was from Plumbing Pro. He got it repaired for us. He was very professional. Everything is working well now.
I have been a customer for AHS for more than five years. In between, I tried a different company which didn't work out well, so I just came back to American Home Shield. The customer service is really good. If they say they dispatch within 24 hours, they did make them send somebody within 24 hours, which I really appreciate it. The bad thing is they assigned somebody, and then this is the third contractor who got assigned within the 24 hours and who made it to my home. The contractors kept being reassigned. There was a lot of phone calls. That can be improved a little bit. Other than that, I'm happy with the service. If someone I know is looking for a home warranty in the market, I would definitely recommend AHS for them.
Your feedback about improving contractor availability and communication is invaluable, and we’ll continue working to make the process smoother for our customers. It’s great to hear you’d recommend American Home Shield, and we truly appreciate your trust in us to handle urgent situations.

I was having issues with my washer and my dryer and I did both of the claims at the same time. The technician ordered parts for both of them. The dryer was replaced and it's working now. On the other hand, I'm waiting on my washer. The technician was unable to get one of the screws out to install for the washer, so they are replacing the washer too. It's been a couple of weeks, but I've had no issues with American Home Shield nor the company that came out. They called me today on setting up a day to get the new washer out. I understand the process and it's not something that happens overnight.

I was cooking something in the oven and when I tried to preheat it to 350, it didn't even go that high. I called American Home Shield and it was hard to understand the rep I spoke with but I was able to do it. Ace Appliance, the contractor, was good. The tech knew what the problem was and ordered the part. The repair was done within a week. This was my first time using AHS and they worked with me fast, which is good. I recommend it.
We appreciate your feedback regarding communication and are happy everything was resolved to your satisfaction. Your recommendation means a lot to us, and we’ll continue working hard to deliver reliable, responsive service whenever you need it.

Eagle Eye Appliance came and looked at my washer. They were scheduled to arrive between 8 to 10 AM but the tech didn't show up until almost a quarter to 11. The good thing was I didn't go to work. But had I taken half a day for work, that would've cost me half a day that nothing happened. They don't work on the weekends, he told me. When he got there, he looked at it and the machine was acting crazy. Eventually, he was able to see what I was concerned about. He said there wasn't anything that he could do and that he needed to contact American Home Shield with his findings. I haven't heard from him anymore since then. Contacted American Home Shield to find out the status. At this point, I'm almost three weeks without my washer. The fourth week out, I went online and found out that they couldn't repair it and they would have to replace it. They sent the voucher for it.

My refrigerator went out and using American Home Shield’s online tool to submit a claim wasn’t super easy. But dealing with the contractor was perfect. The tech kept me informed the whole time. He ordered parts for it and come back a couple times. But the part that he needed was discontinued so he couldn't get that other part to replace it. I am currently still without a refrigerator. It'll be three weeks this weekend, and I have to still wait two more weeks to get it. I'm scheduled to receive one on the 19th. The rep from American Home Shield was gonna credit me $125 to rent one. But I wasn't gonna do it.
It’s great that a replacement is scheduled, and we hope it brings you peace of mind soon. Your feedback about the online claim process and delays is invaluable and helps us improve both convenience and timeliness for our customers.

I do a maintenance service every year with American Home Shield. I requested one recently on went on their website and I didn't any problems with it. They assigned out Fast Response Heating & Cooling, LLC and the lady that scheduled the appointment was willing to work with me. They were here on October 30th and the 30-minute call ahead helped a lot. Then, the young man who came out and serviced the furnace was very pleasant.
At this point, I like American Home Shield's service, that's why I've kept it. It really helps when emergencies arise and having to find someone to service whatever is needed. When I've had to speak to a customer service agent, it went well enough. Sometimes it was difficult in understanding them when they were speaking. They have an accent but I was able to communicate with them and we were able to resolve the issue or do what I needed done. I wish there could be improvements on the cost of things, but that is life. It used to be $50 for the service call, then it went to $75, and now it's 100. Then, my monthly plan is now up to $123 and some change. Other than that, I have recommended it to friends and family. Just to be able to pick up the phone and make that call is a help, especially when things have gone out of their warranty when you bought them.
We truly appreciate your loyalty and the trust you place in us for peace of mind during home emergencies. Your feedback about rising costs and communication challenges is important, and we’ll continue working to improve clarity and value for our customers.

For my claim with the shower, the contractor who came out was good. Now, the shower works a little better than it did before. But on the other bathroom, the pressure is much more than it is in the bathroom in the bedroom. I also had a claim for the air conditioner and they did a good job there. For my oven claim, they had to get parts for the oven, and they're coming today to fix it.
Your feedback about the overall efficiency and proactive approach means a lot to us. We’ll continue working to ensure every visit meets your expectations and keeps your home running smoothly. If you ever need assistance, we’re just a call away!

A technician came out and did an assessment of my microwave. There was one part that he didn't have, and so he ordered it. When it came in, he came and fixed it. It works excellently. He demonstrated what I need to do in the future to prevent my element burning out and how to open my microwave properly. He did a great job. American Home Shield has been great, too. When I put in a claim, they do my deductible right then and there, so I don't have to worry about paying any more money.
We’re also glad the payment process was so smooth and worry-free. Your feedback means a lot and reflects the level of care we strive to deliver.

My garage door was making a banging sound on its way up. The repairman told me that it needed some new wheels and the track needed to be realigned. It was too close to the wall. On top of what American Home Shield charged me, he charged me additional $565 but didn't fix the problem. It's still making the same banging noise. When I brought that to his attention, he said I needed a new garage door opener. Spending $565 on top of whatever the home warranty company covered meant the other $700 to $800 was labor for two hours, which was ridiculous in itself because I figured the wheels that he replaced may have been 100 bucks. I don't have a problem paying, but if I'm paying you money, I want my problem resolved.
American Home Shield doesn't cover half the stuff that's wrong. On another claim, we had a bathroom faucet that was leaking. American Home Shield sent a plumber out and he came in with some type of grinder because he couldn't get this valve loose. He cut a hole in the pipe then he blamed the hole in the pipe on me. I ended up contacting the local news and the local news reached out to American Home Shield. We made an agreement that they send an independent plumber out. If there was any way that that plumber determined that that crack in that pipe was not caused by him cutting it, I would pay the plumber and the repairs. The plumber was here for two minutes. He said, "There's no way you did this. There's no way this was already here." He did that then turned around and said it was like that when he got here.
American Home Shield ended up sending another plumber. We had to cut a hole in the other bathroom wall to get to this valve. The other plumber fixed the leak and replaced the valve. American Home Shield paid for that and they also paid my neighbor to patch the wall. It was a good result but we shouldn't have had to go through all of that.

For the most part, American Home Shield is a good company to work with, but like a lot of companies, they have their downfalls as well. A lot of their representatives, when I call, are really good at communicating, and they understand exactly what I'm saying. Sometimes it's hard to understand some of the people that I talked to on the phone because our languages are different. Sometimes, I don't think they fully understand some of the things that I'm trying to say.
I've been with American Home Shield for quite a while. My wife and I had them as our home warranty years ago. After my divorce and when I bought my own place, I just kept them. The biggest issue is they work with not well-known contractors, and a lot of times, it takes them a long time to get back to me to schedule an appointment. There's been many times I've waited days and haven't gotten phone calls back, and I've had to reach out to them.
Some of the coverages are very weird, too. For instance, when the pipe was leaking inside the wall and it damaged a lot of the drywall on my wall, they paid to have the pipe leak fixed, but they didn't pay to have the drywall fixed even though the drywall was damaged because of the pipe leak. I ended up paying extra money out of my pocket to have extra drywall repaired, which doesn't make sense to me because the drywall was damaged by the water leak that American Home Shield covers. All they said was it's not covered under my plan. So, they're just gonna come out and repair the water leak and leave holes in my wall and wait for me to come up with the money to have the drywall fixed.
Another thing is I haven't had a lot of things that I've had to have repaired, but their service fee is 125. I had a pipe in my basement where the dirty water drains out. They got clogged up, and I have a guy to come out here and just snake it out quickly. He was here for 10 minutes, and he was out the door, and it was 125 bucks.
We appreciate your continued trust and recommendation despite these frustrations, and we’ll keep working to make your experience smoother and more transparent. If you ever need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help.
Warm regards,
