It's been pretty difficult to get anything done through American Home Shield. They take forever to respond. I'm considering canceling. When a claim is denied, they're really, really fast to get back to you. But if it's been approved, it takes forever. Even when a claim is denied, they say they notify you, but they don't, and then you're outside of the window to refute it. So, then there's nothing you can do.
T Mayes came out for a faucet leakage and a toilet issue. They tried to fix the faucet and they did. However, once they fixed it, there became an issue with the water pressure and flow that didn't happen before. That was not why I called them out. It was for a leak. I told them that it wasn't a problem before. But American Home Shield doesn't care because they don't cover that. So, they fixed an issue and created another one, and there's nothing I can do about it other than pay for it and fix it myself.
They also came out for a toilet. The guy told me one thing and then he reported something different and said it was a vent stack issue. I then had four other plumbers come out on my own dime to give me a diagnosis, and they all just said the toilet was needed to be replaced. So, then I called American Home Shield and asked for a second opinion. After waiting on the phone for what felt like an hour, I was finally able to get a second opinion.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

My heater wasn't working. I made a claim with American Home Shield and their process was pretty good. They assigned a tech to come out and he came after two days. He checked it out and said that I needed a new heater. All in all, I like American Home Shield. I have them for five months and I should have gotten them before.
We're delighted to hear that your experience with American Home Shield has been positive and that the claim process has been smooth for you. Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about the speedy service and how our technician was able to assist with your heater promptly. If you ever need further assistance, feel free to reach out. I was with American Home Shield over a decade before I canceled them, then they told me that it's better and I renewed. It wasn't though. They scammed me out of an oven they were supposed to replace. Since it was not in, they just made me take the amount and said that I signed up for a package that wasn't enough to cover the oven. It was a whole debacle. Now I still don't have an oven because what they forced me to take wasn't even enough to get a new double wall oven of any brand. It pissed me off.
My oven was sparking and it was dangerous. American Home Shield sent out five contractors then told me that a part of why I didn't have enough is because I had to pay for the contractors to come out. I said, “Wait a minute. Why am I paying for the contractors to come out when this is what y'all came up with?” The first contractor was rushing and crazy. It was a mess and I'm over it. However, I won't be renewing with them because they're scamming people left and right. I've heard that for years from people, but I see it now to be true.
Sincerely,
Marc

The refrigerator would not come on at all. I went online to American Home Shield like I have done before, and I put the claim in that way. The repair company ended up calling me and the lady there set up an appointment first. The appointment was supposed to be on the 9th. Then right before the 9th, she called and said, “Do you mind my technician doing a video?” At that point, I told her I don't think they should do a video. They should come out and look at it. She assured me he's a master technician. He's been doing this for a long time, and the video is gonna be good. So, I agreed and he called my husband because I wasn't at home and they did the video. After they did the video, the lady said the tech had to order a part. She pushed the appointment out to the 12th.
The guy that ended up coming out wasn't even the technician that my husband initially talked to who did the video thing. He was getting ready to leave when I was walking in the door, and I thought the service was done. When he had my husband sign a paper and when he left, I asked my husband is the refrigerator was working. He said it was not since because what the guy had wasn't the right part. He said that the refrigerator needed a board and they needed to order that part. We were without a refrigerator for 30 days. So, I called American Home Shield to let them know, and it was like they didn't care.
The one thing I liked about AHS is I did have a service where I didn't have to go and replace appliances to where something is broken or I'm paying out of pocket a full amount at one time. However, I didn't like that when this one company couldn't do what they were supposed to do, and I'm requesting them to send me out another company or refer me over to another company, they were telling me they couldn't. I feel like that needs to be improved to where if this company can't get the job done, nobody should be without something.

Marc

I had a dishwasher that had issues and a drain pump on my washer needed replacement, and Aurora Appliance Repair handled both cases professionally. The dishwasher has been working fine ever since. Hopefully, the washer works just the same. The tech was fantastic and was very knowledgeable with it.
However, when I first signed up with AHS, I had a plumbing claim. There was, "If we can't fix it, we'll replace it." Now, "If we can't fix it, we'll give you a percentage of it." That's my biggest complaint with AHS. But I’ve been with them for ten years now and I haven't had anything big enough that would require a replacement yet. I know my dad had them when he was alive. And AHS never replaced anything, but they definitely fixed a lot of stuff.
We truly appreciate your feedback and are delighted to hear about your positive experience with both Aurora Appliance Repair and American Home Shield over the years. It’s fantastic to know the service exceeded your expectations, particularly in resolving your appliance issues efficiently.
Your point about the shift from full replacement coverage to percentage compensation is valuable, and we understand your concerns about such changes. Your father's positive experiences, along with your decade-long usage, are testaments to our commitment to quality service.
We encourage you to reach out to us anytime for further assistance or with any future needs. Your satisfaction is instrumental to our continued improvement and service efforts.

We had a water main break a month ago in the neighborhood. Everything came back, but then I started noticing that the pressure was dropping. I called the water company and they came out and looked and they said it wasn't a water issue, but my water pressure regulator needed to be replaced. They told me I needed to get a plumber. I thought about calling one but I remembered I have a home warranty company. I called AHS and put the request in. Submitting the claim was fairly easy for the most part. There were just times where it was hard to understand the gentleman that I was speaking with. He had a heavy accent.
The guy who showed up was very professional and nice. However, I have a two-car garage and he just pulled up in the middle of the driveway. I thought that was a little odd. Most people who come to work on the house, they park on the street. Not only was I blocked in if I wanted to get out, my daughter had just left to run to the store and she was coming right back. But he pulled over and apologized. He got to work and when he finished, he took a picture of everything that he did and showed it to me. It was okay that first day. But now, it's back to being slower than it was before. I wasn't sure if I should call them back. AHS has been pretty good. However, when I first started, the monthly payment was 40 for one year. Then it went up, and I got no notification about it.
We appreciate you sharing your detailed experience with us. It's great to hear that the claim submission process was easy for you, and we're pleased that there was clear communication regarding your contractor from First Choice Heating, Air Conditioning, and Plumbing LLC. We do apologize for any initial inconvenience with the technician's parking and appreciate your patience. We are glad to know that this was resolved smoothly.
We’re also happy to hear there was an improvement in your water pressure; however, understanding that there's still an issue in your kitchen faucet, we're keen on you getting a timely solution. Please reach out to American Home Shield at your earliest convenience, so we can assist you further before needing a new claim. We also acknowledge your earlier experience with invoiced delays and the unexpected increase in your monthly rate notification and assure you that these concerns are important to us.

American Home Shield sent Draingo of Alabama out for a stopped up drain. They fixed the issue and off we went. The only thing was it took seven days from the time I submitted my claim to Draingo showing up to do the repair, which is absolutely unacceptable. I could not use my kitchen for a whole week. Every time I call American Home Shield, it is five to seven days minimum before I ever see anybody at my house to repair anything. They are terrible.
When my washer went out, a guy came out and looked at it after seven days of me putting in the claim. He checked what was wrong with the washer, ordered parts, and changed his mind. He ordered parts and had them shipped to my house. Then he turned around and called American Home Shield back and said that the washer was not worth fixing. Home Shield then said, "Well, we're not gonna repair it. We'll give you X number of dollars. You go buy you a new one." Overall, it takes so long to get stuff repaired. Don't get American Home Shield.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

I submitted a claim to AHS for my refrigerator, and I had Stutts come out. It took forever to get the parts and when they did, the refrigerator still didn’t work. I had bought tons of ice waiting for them to come back. The rep said we could probably work something out. I put together the charges for my ice that I had bought over a period of four weeks and came to a total. When they got here, I showed them what I felt was a fair price. They said they don't do that.
One of the guys also left and went outside. He came back in and said they were leaving and they walked out the door. But they didn't even push my refrigerator back into the wall. I couldn't even open up one of my cupboards. When I asked them if they were gonna fix it, they said no. I had to wait another week and a half for Sears to come out and fix it. Sears was very valuable and I would have Sears out here in a heartbeat. But I would not recommend Stutts at all.

GJC Electrical fixed a switch that was not working and a wobbly ceiling fan. It was nice and quick, and everything is working now. I got an almost 100-year-old-house, which was why I got American Home Shield. I did a Google search on who had the best price at the time. It's worth it if you have appliance issues. AHS covers a lot of things, but the claims process could be better. Sometimes, depending on who looks at it and their interpretation, you could be covered or not covered.

I haven’t had a problem with American Home Shield. It doesn’t take long for a contractor to come out. We had water building up in the tray from the air conditioning and it wasn’t draining the way it’s supposed to. The contractor who came didn’t have to do anything and just gave me a lot of good information. He said that by cleaning the filter and putting it back in, it sometimes blocks and causes a freeze. I cleaned the filter out and it seemed to be working. But since the weather has changed, it’s hard to judge.
The claim I have going right now is for a refrigerator claim that’s got a bad fan and a light switch. We got the light switch in the mail, but they can’t seem to get the fan yet. Either the manufacturer doesn’t have it or doesn’t make it anymore. So they’re looking to get it some other way, and I’m hoping they find it soon.
We're thrilled to hear about your positive experiences with American Home Shield and our partner, United Air Temp. We're glad the service was prompt and provided helpful information to tackle your air conditioning issue effectively. My experience with AHS has been great up until this summer. Their customer service reps don't really understand the English language. When I was trying to ask them a question, they just kept repeating an answer that I did not even ask. There were certain words that the contractor used, but then they turned it around and said, “It meant this.” There were also things where I read my policy and I said, “In the policy, there is a note that says certain things were not covered, but if certain things normally are not covered but are required for federal compliance, then it is covered.” I showed them that. I pulled it up but they said it’s not covered. I asked for a supervisor and the supervisor just repeated what they said. I'm a paralegal. I've been in the legal field for 21 years. I know what a contract looks like. So I ended up paying over $2,000 out-of-pocket when it should have been closer to $1,500.
I also asked them several times, different representatives, where is their corporate office located and none of them knew. That's concerning to me. They only know a script and that's it. I've had claims with AHS before and I've never had an issue. But I have been thinking about shopping around because right now, I'm scared because I have a dishwasher that is going out. I had a service call and the contractor came and said the way American Home Shield is, they're cheap and they're gonna try and find the parts even if they don't work. It's gonna be months before I get them to come to a realization that it needs to be replaced.

When I got the Bosch dishwasher, I thought I was having a problem with it. I called American Home Shield and they said to call Bosch as my warranty with Bosch was still in effect, which I did. It was already a problem before American Home Shield took over the warranty. A couple of days ago, a contractor was here and the people were very conscientious about it. They've been out here three times. When the dishwasher stopped, there was water in the bottom of it. It was not draining. Even the repairman saw the water in the dishwasher. He told me he checked all the codes that Bosch has and it says it's okay.
I've been with American Home Shield for 27 years. It was very good then there was a downhill period. They were picking a whole bunch of people to do the warranty work but I don't think they were up to snuff. But this company I use for the dishwasher is top notch so I think things are getting better. I've been very pleased the last couple of times with the quality of service people that came out here. I shopped around because I knew my contract was coming up but I got annoyed by another home warranty company. They were less expensive than American Home Shield but they don't need to contact me 10 times a day because I asked them a simple question. I'm gonna stick with American Home Shield.
Thank you for being a loyal customer for over 27 years, and for sharing your recent experiences with our service. We're pleased that you're noticing improvements and commend the exceptional efforts of the plumbers and service technicians at the Texas Gulf Coast Service Center. Your feedback is important to us. I was under the impression that I had coverage for the actual garage doors, but the coverage was on the garage door openers, which I did not have any issue with. I tried to make it clear that I needed help winterizing or potentially replacing the garage doors, not the openers. The technician from Flash Garage Doors, sent by American Home Shield, confirmed the fit of my older doors but suggested they might need replacing. However, when he checked with American Home Shield, it turned out I didn't have coverage for the doors themselves. I ended up paying $125 without resolving the issue as I had hoped.
The customer service from American Home Shield is usually pleasant and I've benefited from them handling different home repairs over the years. I've had AHS for about four years and I had an agent call me a few days ago to renew AHS, and she sold me on them. The platinum coverage was a good sell which is about 20 bucks more than what I had been paying a month for the service. I wish that when they call, it's specific to your needs and that they acknowledge that they can look up what my policy is and whether or not I have coverage on a garage door.

American Home Shield's customer service team tries hard. Nobody's ever rude or dismissive but sometimes, they can't get anybody to help us because they can't find anybody to help. I don't think I would recommend the company to anyone, but it's useful for what we need. So, we continue with it. Sadly, we don't get the top-tier people to fix things. The warranty covers fairly well, but then there are a lot of things that it doesn't cover. With the amount of premiums that we pay, everything should be covered.
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with us. We sincerely appreciate your long-standing commitment to using our services. We regret that you've experienced challenges with securing timely service and are attentive to feedback about the increase in premiums over the years and the quality of available technicians. Your insights about needing multiple repair visits for clear-cut issues highlight the potential areas we need to focus on for enhancing overall customer value and satisfaction.

I'm a Realtor, so I always give an American Home Shield warranty when I close a house. I like the service because it covers all my appliances and everything I need it to. I know they're gonna send out somebody reputable. If they don't, I can request somebody else. I've been doing this for 25 years, so I know how the warranty works. I like how easy it is. I pay so much per month. The fee has gone up quite a bit. That's a bummer, but that's the only thing negative I have about it. It's easy and it gets the job done. It's much easier than carrying an extended warranty on your appliance because they put you through the trenches.
When I bought my Frigidaire appliance set, I had problems with my refrigerator right off the bat, and it was so hard going through them. It was the same with my garage door opener. When I went through the company I bought it from, there's a brand on it, so you deal with the people with the brand. They said, “Oh, you bought it at Home Depot.” They put me through an endless tunnel of crap. AHS cuts to the chase. A contractor comes out. They fix it. I pay. It's done.
I recently went to the website and made a claim for my dishwasher that is off-balance. I made an appointment. Almost immediately, AHS gave me who it would be and when, and that they would contact me. The tech was very thorough, friendly, knowledgeable, and polite. I was standing right there, so he showed me what he was doing. I paid the $125, but there was a $48 charge. I don't understand why. Normally, it would just say I pay the 125 bucks. I've been meaning to look into that.
Thank you so much for sharing your positive experience with American Home Shield. It was a really bad experience with American Home Shield. I didn't have hot water for a month. When we finally got to the bottom of it, the claim wasn't put through until two days before. I know they can't guarantee the right water heater, but the one I got was well under what I had. It was really disappointing. I've never had a problem with American Home Shield until this happened.
The plumbers did a great job. They had to put in what American Home Shield gave me, and the work was great. But when I replaced the water heater in 2006, I didn't have to pay anything. This time, I had to pay $750 on top of everything else. I called American Home Shield and said I wanted some kind of compensation for all this hassle and everything that I went through and to update my plan to make sure I could get back into a special. They were supposed to call me back in two days, but they haven't called me back since.
I understand how frustrating this experience must have been, and I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We’d welcome the opportunity to speak with you further and address your concerns.

Our hot water tank went out. The first time I tried to do the claim with American Home Shield, it coincided with the day they were having issues with the phone system. I tried to call in the morning but I wasn't able to get through until around the lunch hour. It took about a week for a contractor to come out. We denied the first the contractor that American Home Shield tried to give us because we had issues with that contractor not doing a good job on a visit to the house. We didn't want to repeat the business with them. However, American Home Shield didn't switch contractors right away even though I spoke to some of them on the phone and told them not to send that company. They seem to have a language barrier of some sort sometimes with some of the agents.
When a contractor finally came out, they had to order the boiler and the parts. That took about a week. It was just this past Monday that we got the boiler repaired. It took about two weeks. This particular contractor, Rockland Plumbing, was pretty professional and knowledgeable about fixing the boiler. We were happy with their service.
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with American Home Shield. We truly regret the frustration you encountered with both our online and phone claim submission processes. The oven was not maintaining temperature. It was buzzing loudly when you first turn it on, and you couldn't operate the microwave and the oven at the same time. I made a service request with AHS online and it was easy to do. Then I got several text messages asking about the model number of the unit and information about when the tech would be arriving. They dispatched a tech from Sears who was very knowledgeable and good. Since he'd been out, the oven has been working fine. I've had this coverage with American Home Shield over my last three homes. It was supplied by the seller on a home that I purchased and so far, the service works very well. But they could lower the cost a little bit.
Thank you for your continued trust in American Home Shield over the years and for sharing your wonderful experience. We're delighted to hear that the repair process for your oven went smoothly and that our technician provided the knowledgeable service you deserve. The water in my dishwasher was not draining and it was easy to turn in the job online, but it was really difficult to get American Home Shield to really help me. The first vendor that showed up said the issue was one thing, and therefore, American Home Shield wasn't gonna cover it. It got to the point where I had to escalate the issue to a manager, but it took forever for me to even get in touch. They wouldn't let me talk to a supervisor or manager. Some of the customer service workers were nice, but they weren't very well-trained or helpful at all, or they would be very short and just have a talk track like, "Oh, we understand that you're upset. But per the rules, we can't cover this just because per the rules." It sounded like a machine. They weren't trying to help me and good customer service is always somebody who's trying to figure out a way to go the extra mile to help you because it's a service.
The second vendor, Elite Appliance, came out for my dishwasher last Monday and they were super helpful. They said, "Nope, it's actually something else. You didn't do anything wrong," and then American Home Shield covered it. There was something wrong with the pump and they just needed to replace it. Things are working now, but it took three weeks to get to this point. Elite always does a great job. On the other hand, that was the first time we've ever worked with the other contractor, and it was odd. It also took hours and hours on the phone with American Home Shield and calling back and forth the different technicians to get something that would normally cost $200 to $300 to fix. I looked it up on Google. It took so much effort and time, and I pay American Home Shield so incredibly much every year.
I've had American Home Shield for over 10 years. I heard from people that it's a good idea to have a home warranty for appliances and there have been times where things were fixed, but more so than often, things aren't fixed. They'll say XYZ is not covered for XYZ reason. It's like any type of insurance. People keep some type of insurance for the big things and I'm always afraid to get rid of the home warranty because there have been times where I've gotten rid of something and then something catastrophic happened to my house. So, I keep them on, but although their rate's going up every year, I feel like their standards go down. I've heard there are other companies out there, so I'd tell people to shop around first. They should do their research and look at the Google reviews in advance before choosing someone.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. The challenges you faced in getting your dishwasher issue addressed are understandably frustrating, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. We're glad to hear that Elite Appliance could swiftly resolve the problem, despite the initial setbacks. Your feedback concerning the claim process, cost concerns, and customer service interactions is very valuable, and we deeply regret the feeling of dissatisfaction this may have left with you. Please reach out with any ongoing concerns or further details that can assist us in making improvements.

I’ve been with AHS for 15 years now and I’m happy with it. The contractors that AHS usually sends have been very good. Their cost is reasonable as well. I view it as insurance. You're probably paying more year over year, but when you have a large issue, it gets covered which is good. Recently, I had a backed up drain in my dishwasher. And the repairman came out and fixed it.

I had to wait forever to get anything fixed because of the parts. It was a hassle. My dishwasher and refrigerator had issues one after the other and tow different companies worked on them. I was unhappy with both of them, especially my dishwasher. The tech didn't program it, so all my cycle said five hours. He didn't take the time of double checking it when he put the new part in so I had to wait another two weeks for that. I was expecting that my refrigerator would be done within a week but it took about three and a half weeks. You gotta have patience with American Home Shield.

My experience with American Home Shield has been average. We had an AC claim recently. Scottsdale Service Company came out. The tech checked the unit over, he said it was working fine, and that was the end of that service call. About the concern that we had, he said it was normal wear and tear on the unit. I'm not taking away from the young man that they sent out, but I don't know what his level of experience was. He was a very young guy. Sometimes, I just wanna make sure that the people that AHS are sending out have the experience on working on these systems, especially in the state of Texas because we got our air conditioner that runs 10 months out of the year. AHS should ensure that they're sending people out that have the expertise to review whatever the issues are.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re delighted to hear that your satisfaction with American Home Shield has been generally positive. Your insights about our technician’s experience levels are invaluable; we strive to work with skilled professionals who excel in their roles, especially with critical systems like HVAC in demanding climates such as Texas. I prefer calling when filing a claim, and the claims reps were good. They mostly get me in touch with someone to do a video chat to show them the problem and help describe it.
I had a claim for the door handle on my microwave that fell off. A repairman looked at it, determined that the handle could not be put back on, and ordered me a new door. It took a long time to get the parts in because they were on backorder, but that was to be expected. When the new door came in, they scheduled an appointment, came out, and put it on. I haven’t had any issues with any of the contractors. They’ve all been helpful and answered my questions.

They had a service company come out and diagnose the problem, then it went a bunch of days with no response. After that, they came back with some crazy estimate that I didn't accept. I asked Home Shield for the cash-out option to replace the furnace with another company, and that took nearly four weeks of back and forth, escalated tickets, and calls to get ahold of somebody. Several of my appliances were broken, including the ice machine, washer, dryer and refrigerator. I spoke to the young lady and told her to schedule someone to come to my home between 8:00 am and 12:00 noon versus in the afternoon. She set it for Monday and said that they would let me know as the day gets closer to the representative. And she would let him know the situation. I waited for a whole week, and before I even scheduled with her, I said that if it wasn’t gonna work for their guy, they should let me go with another company because I need these things done and can’t adjust my schedule. She said they would work with me. But on the day of service, she told me the guy couldn’t come. I reminded her that I asked her to just let me cancel if the guy couldn’t come so I could go with somebody else.
Then, I got Majestic Appliance. They were amazing. The guy assessed the situation and within a week, everything was up and running and good to go. I'm happy, and all is well. I’m disappointed with American Home Shield though. The year before last, my rate went from 80-something dollars up to 120 so I called them. I understand that inflation is happening and everybody is incurring additional costs but I don’t use the warranty every year. I've been a member for a long time and it bothered me to have my rate jump like that. This year, $157 came out of my checking account. American Home Shield said they gave me a notification, but I don’t recall seeing one. When I saw the rate, I told them it wasn’t gonna work for me. I'm gonna have to start looking for other companies that offer the same service. Another thing is, not only did the monthly payment go up, but so did the cost of bringing someone to my home.
The rep gave me three options. If I stay with $157, the service fee will remain at $100. If I choose $125 or $128, the service fee will now go up to $125. But if I do $139, the service fee would remain at $100. So, I chose 139. The rates are going up but AHS is not giving me anything. My rate went up almost 37% in one year and I wasn’t okay with that, but I kept the service because it’s just me and my kids, and I rely on it. The service changed, too. I now have to wait a week for an appointment. Before the price increase, someone could come out the next day.
I also had a problem with my shower before and had no water in my bathroom. It took one to almost three weeks to fix and that’s not acceptable, especially when I’m paying more. My rate keeps increasing while the service keeps getting worse. Those increases are significant for me. Even $100 a month is hard to manage, and $157 is excessive. If the price is going up, the service should be improving, not declining. I’ve been with American Home Shield for many years, but this isn’t fair. I plan to look for another company before the end of the month. If they want to charge new customers more, that’s fine, but long-time customers should be treated better.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We're pleased to hear that Majestic Appliance Service provided such outstanding support and successfully addressed your appliance issues. We had American Home Shield for several years at different homes, and at the end, it turned out to be a waste of our time and money. They take too long to dispatch a contractor. Instead of sending a repair guy out several times, perhaps they should replace the item. I understood that's what was supposed to happen, but they never did. They just kept sending somebody out. That happened with our dishwasher, our microwave, and our clothes dryer. We just replaced the clothes dryer on our own because we got tired of dealing with them. It is very important that you get a warranty on any home that you buy no matter if it's a new or an older home. If you choose to go through a home warranty program, choose American Home Shield, because their coverages cover the most important things that I didn't think I would need. Everything was new, but some things happen.
I went through AHS's app and chose the option for plumbing. It asked a few questions about what type of plumbing issue, and it said water heater, so I selected that. AHS said, “Someone will be in contact with you between 24 to 48 hours." I submitted it on Friday. Somebody called me by Sunday, and somebody was able to look at it Monday. I didn't expect anybody to call me on a Sunday, but they did. They were very helpful. They even asked me if I had any questions about the coverage and explained in detail about what I wanted to know as far as what else things I can get covered or what else does my home warranty cover, too.
A technician came out, looked at it and confirmed that it needed to be replaced. He came back after two days to replace it. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and quick with fixing the issue. My issue was fixed by Wednesday or Thursday. It has been a good experience because even though I had issues, they got rectified right away. I was able to speak to somebody who knew my issue, and directed me to the right person I needed to talk to. It got fixed all within a week. I liked how expedited things get done.

It was encouraging to sign up for something like that. He helped me understand that it wasn't a scam. I like the ease of being able to go online and fill out a claim, but I couldn't find a couple things on the list when I went to file a claim on a couple things. I've also had trouble with the technicians' response times. I've called and filed a couple claims, and whoever they're dealing with doesn't do any visits on the weekends. Plus, they block out a four- or five-hour window and I'm out of work for the day. That's definitely something that should be improved to have the technicians do weekend visits.
On a different note, I had Comfort Temp Heating come out, and my interactions with them were very good. The tech said everything seemed fine with the unit. I've had the warranty insurance for many years, and it has been like that for a long time. A lot of people that I know who also have the warranty have complained about the same thing. I left one time for a while because of that. I wanna be able to communicate with people.
It seems like it's hard for where I live for AHS to find repair people that come whenever I need somebody without them coming an hour and a half away. When I first started with American Home Shield many years ago, it seemed like they didn't have as hard of a time. If I had a bad appliance, they would offer to pay more on a replacement. What I see happening now is they will come out 100 times to work on something before they will say the customer has to have a new one.
On the last product that I had to have replaced, the guy had to fight to get me a new appliance because Home Shield kept wanting to just come back to fix it. And he kept telling them that it wasn't repairable. It was not a safe appliance to keep repairing because it needed to go. He had to really fight a fight with them to get me a replacement. American Home Shield offered me a free service visit to service the furnace. There were two techs that showed up and basically, all they did was push the button to see if it would start. It wouldn't, so they called and set up a second service call while they were still there. I was called by American Home Shield and they said, “You're gonna need a new gas valve on your furnace. And the tech has one. And he can install it.” They charged me $125 for the extra service visit. The tech went back downstairs for about a minute or two, then they came back upstairs and said that there was a buildup in the line of our furnace. All they did was clean it a little and it was fine.
It seems goofy to offer a free service call when they were gonna turn around and charge me $125 to barely clean something. That seems like a bait-and-switch. What was the free service call for if all they did was push a button? I don't understand how that helped at all. I've had American Home Shield for a few years. They've always fixed anything that broke, and I've always had a very good experience with the people they send to get things fixed. They have always been very professional. I had them fix my dryer and it was excellent and quick. When the worker from Sanchez came, he was right on point. I wanted to know things about my dryer, and he answered all my questions, including the age of my dryer and what was wrong with it. He was great, and my dryer was fixed in no time. Within the hour, it was ready to go. The next day, I called my sister up and said, "American Home Shield and Sanchez were excellent. If you ever need that, go to American Home Shield. And if your dryer breaks, it will be fixed really fast."
Thank you so much for sharing your positive experience with us! We're thrilled to hear that Sanchez Appliance was able to assist with your dryer issue. The refrigerator stopped cooling. Through the app, I did a video chat with a technician. He asked me to check a few things to assess and then from there, the claim was submitted. It was great. I contacted the contractor to schedule, and they were nice and got me scheduled quickly. They replaced the board and cleaned up after themselves. Very professional, and I was very pleased with the service.
AHS is definitely worth having. When you’re a homeowner, you don’t know who you’re getting when you call a contractor or sometimes you don’t even know who to call. But having AHS gives this peace of mind that I’m getting good, quality service and not getting scammed or cheated. Although there are some things that are not covered that I feel should be covered and the price keeps going up every year, the service, overall, is great.
Thank you so much for your kind words and recommendation! We're delighted to hear about your positive experience with our app and the outstanding service from Jay's Appliance and Repair. I wasn't satisfied with the coverage I had. I gave American Home Shield a try, and it was a good deal. I like that the fee gets paid off online instead of having cash to give to the tech when they get here. The price is right as well. I pay $23 a month which is reasonable. Recently, I had a plumber come out for leaking faucets in my sunken bathtub. The plumber called me that night that I filed the claim, and we discussed my problem. I took pictures of it and sent them to his phone. We talked on a Friday and they showed up on a Monday. They took off the cartridges that were frozen. They knew their job. They were clean, friendly, and on time. However, when I filed the claim online, it didn't have a spot for my particular problem. It didn't have anything about leaking faucets. It just said, "Hot and cold." I used that but apparently, that was for something else.
Thank you for sharing your experience with American Home Shield! We're thrilled to hear about your smooth claim process and satisfaction with our contractor's professionalism and punctuality. I used Home Shield for the garage opener and 495 Garage Doors answered the service call on a weekend and then they came the following few days after. So, it was seamless. It was very prompt and quick. When the tech came, he was able to fix it within an hour. He did try to sell rollers for the doors. I told him no and he was good with it. The only thing I did not like was their follow-up from their company two days later. The rep tried to push me for the rollers and asked me if he asked me if I wanted them and if I'm sure I don't want. So there was more upselling on the phone end of it versus the tech. I'm sure they get a reimbursement for their contract with Home Shield with whatever work they do, and they get a flat fee, but it felt like over the phone, she was trying to get me to supplement that by getting extra stuff. Home Shield uses certain vendors based on where I live. They do good work. They're just energetic with sales.

The heating wasn't working properly. I called American Home Shield and spoke with a live person. The claims process was easy and the tech who came out was from Seabolt's Heating & Cooling. Since the repair, the unit has been working fine. He has done work for me before and I trust him. If I have an issue, I always ask if I can use him, because his father one time spent hours and hours working on my heating unit. In fact, American Home Shield asked to give me a payout, but I didn't want a payout. I wanted it fixed. So, he tried to repair it and I don't think anybody in this world would have spent that much time trying to figure out what was going on.
Overall, I like American Home Shield because they're fast, they take care of me right away, and they do their job right. They're pleasant to work with and they know what they're doing. It's been only three days and I've only washed once, but I did not have issues. The only thing is he had to take the Sheetrock out where the pipe was. He told me they didn't put the Sheetrock back. READ before buying an American Home Shield warranty. I’ve been in real estate for over 20 years, and I’ve had countless clients purchase and use home warranties. I have NEVER had an experience as bad as this. At closing, the sellers paid for a 1-year AHS home warranty. The title company mailed the check directly to AHS. The warranty order was never opened. We repeatedly requested an order number or confirmation—AHS refused to provide either. AHS assured us that they would never cash a check without an order attached. After escalating, their accounting department “researched” and confirmed that not only did they cash the check, but they dumped the $750 into their MISCELLANEOUS FUNDS. I’m sorry—what legitimate company does that?!
Even worse, once they located the money, they still refused to honor the warranty or the original quoted price. Yes—could we and the title company have been in tighter communication and ensured the check included the order form? Sure. But who just takes $750, throws it into “miscellaneous funds,” and then never contacts the sender? Completely unacceptable. I have asked multiple times to speak to an actual human—a manager, supervisor, ANYONE. Still nothing. They’ve only allowed contact through an 800 number where you’re routed through a phone tree to someone who cannot help and cannot find your account… because there is NO order number. It’s a ridiculous circle of nonsense.
They now claim a refund is “in the mail,” with no tracking, no documentation. So at this point: The sellers are out the money. The buyers have no warranty they were promised. The title company and I are stuck in the middle. AHS is holding the money, providing zero service, and ignoring all reasonable requests. If I could give zero stars, I would. I hope this helps you when choosing a home warranty company—because this was beyond terrible.
I sincerely apologize for the difficulties you've encountered, and I want to thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. I’d truly appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience further and work toward a resolution. Please reach out to us directly at socialmedia@ahs.com.

AHS is one of the worst "services" I've had the displeasure of working with. Just another parasite sucking the money out of homeowners, while offering hope and relief but instead dragging you along an endless string of smoke and mirrors until they can keep denying your claim(s). If the inspection showed no issues, but there are issues soon after we move in doesn't that indicate the unit broke after the inspection? They claim to provide service for units no matter how old, but they swing the unit's old history against you. I don't care how "unlikely" it may seem.
We paid for an inspection to check if things were functioning. We paid for the warranty because we knew the units are dated. We filed a claim because something is wrong with the units, and all they drop on is is that the unit's history of misuse that lead to its failure was pre-existing. Wouldn't that put every "old" or "used" unit in that category? We've been told the same thing with every claim. AHS, you contribute to everything that is wrong with homeownership. I hope you're proud of taking advantage of your "valued warranty members", with all your empty promises and cash-grabbing networking.
I understand how frustrating this experience must have been, and I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We’d welcome the opportunity to speak with you further and address your concerns.

For my claim with AHS, Joey's Repair Company came out and did some work. The first initial issue that I had noticed was that the freezer never froze. It never got cold enough to freeze anything. A few days later, the refrigerator was warm inside again, so I called them again. I told him the work didn't hold up and they need to come back. He said he'd rather refer me to another company. He didn't want to continue the work.
the next time I talked to the American Home Shield, they said, “We still have to give him 48 hours before we can switch companies.” A company from Roseville came out. The tech said, “We're not touching that ‘cause Joey needs to finish this work. I'm not doing that either. Joey has to come out or they should get you a new refrigerator.” That man was in my house for all of three minutes. I was so upset. I wasted that whole day, because the time window was 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and he got here at 12:59. I could have gone to work.
I told AHS and a third company came out. The tech ran some tests and checked to make sure it wasn't the circuit board. He came to the same conclusion as Joey. “This model is a complicated model because you've got this special compressor. Everyone has issues with it. I'm gonna recommend that they replace it because the repair is going to be very expensive and complicated to do.”
He submitted his paperwork, and then someone reached out again and said, “They're going to fix it. Wait for someone to reach out to schedule it.” That was a few days before Halloween, and it's been two months and my refrigerator is still broken. I don't know what we're waiting for now.I want some money back at this point. I'm not upset that the work didn't hold up. I'm upset that the first tech didn't come back to finish the work. I'm upset that they're not just replacing the refrigerator, ‘cause how many people do you have to send out before you just send a new refrigerator? That doesn't make any sense. But AHS’s customer service has been very nice. Everyone seems genuine and sincere, but it's something about the repair people.
Thank you for sharing your experience and the challenges you’ve encountered with our repair services. We're genuinely sorry to hear about the frustration and inconvenience you’ve faced with Joey's Repair and our contractors. I needed some work done in a property that I own where a tenant is living. I did the service request through the desktop in the evening, then American Home Shield called me the next morning. It was less than 24 hours. They assigned Mile High Plumbing and while we had to reschedule a couple of times due to issues on the tenant’s side, they were very accommodating and understanding. They were great to work with my tenant. The third time was the charm, and when they came out, they did the work. They had to review a couple pipes that seemed to be clogged, and there was some concern about water spitting out of a faucet. A different plumber who had come out for an emergency visit a few weeks earlier had suggested it could be the pressure control valve. Mile High Plumbing checked all that and the service person explained everything to me. I was very happy.
Considering American Home Shield's price, I'm very happy when I only have to pay $125 for the tech to come out and then solve the problem until it's fixed, knowing that I'm paying a set fee every month versus having a trip charge and not knowing what's gonna happen. However, I'm not very happy when things don't go so smoothly and there are long periods of waiting in between. Before Mile High Plumbing, the previous call that I had to make to American Home Shield for the same property was for a dishwasher that needed to be repaired. Between the time I called and when the dishwasher finally got repaired, it was close to eight weeks. The guy had to come out three times, and every time the company ordered a part, it took 8 to 10 days.
In a world where Amazon can get people stuff overnight, it was incredibly frustrating for everybody when they were telling me it was gonna take 8 to 10 days to order a part, then they rescheduled the service. Every time I reached out to them, I would get some kind of machine. I had a few calls out to American Home Shield, and they just said they would contact them. Nothing became of that. So I called American Home Shield back and insisted upon escalation and a possible cancellation of my contract, and that's when people started moving faster. The guy responded quicker. That was a little frustrating both for me and for my tenants. The fact that I've had American Home Shield with a property in Florida since 2011 and on this property since 2021, it was very frustrating. With Mile High Plumbing, things went much smoother, probably because the vendor responded quickly and the issue was solved quickly.
We appreciate your detailed feedback and are thrilled to hear about your positive experience with the recent service claim for your tenant's plumbing issue. We're glad the process was seamless and that our contractor efficiently resolved the problem. Your mention of the previous issue with the dishwasher repairs is invaluable, and we apologize for the past inconvenience. I called them back and they went up there and they replaced it again. It’s been working fine ever since.

I wasn’t happy with my recent claim experience with AHS. When I called and said the water wouldn't stop running in the bathroom, they said the soonest they could get someone out would be two days later. I had to cut off all the water in the house, and I had no running water, because I have well water and I couldn't let it just keep running. I was not a happy camper.
But when the contractor came out to fix the issue, he was nice. It wasn't the first time someone had been to work on that faucet. When the first person came, they stripped something in the faucet, and that's why it went back to running again, because I had called before about it running.
The AHS rep I interacted with was fine. I know their hands were tied. I asked them, “Is there someone you have for emergency?” But they didn't have anyone for emergency. They only have one plumbing company.
I have been looking at other programs because of the timeframe that it takes someone to come out. Then they're also not contacting me. I have to keep calling them. I also had reported my refrigerator and dishwasher because they were leaking. The Handyman Can said neither one of them could be fixed. But I never heard from American Home Shield.

The initial issue was a couple of problems with the motor. There was black stuff around the vent that went to the icemaker, making the icemaker break. The contractor replaced the motor and said, “Try to see if it works.” He said that since he replaced the motor, it should work. If it doesn't work, then I’ll have to manually defrost it, unplug it, open the doors, and leave it for 24 to 48 hours to defrost. He said to give him a call if it doesn’t work and he’ll come back to see what else is going on with it. But the ice maker is still broken, and I’ve been buying bags of ice for over a month.
When it comes to Hornet, I’d say AHS really has a good company with them. When I see Hornet’s contractor, I get excited because I know he’s gonna fix my stuff.
But, when my dishwasher went out, AHS sent someone else, and I don’t know what the guy did. So, the issue with the dishwasher was that I specifically asked the contractor if he could write up a replacement for the dishwasher because I knew it needed to be replaced, even though it is only two years old. The contractor wrote up the order saying the dishwasher needed another motor, upper rack, and a lower rack, and I said you might as well just do another dishwasher because technically you’re replacing the dishwasher with brand-new parts.
Then he said, “I have to write this up to AHS”, and then American Home Shield makes the determination. He messaged me back and said, “this is on back order with no ETA.”. The contractor made it seem like my dishwasher was older than what it was. American Home Shield cheated me out what the dishwasher actually cost. I ended up having to come out of pocket $500 on top of the check that American Home Shield gave me, and it was all because of what he wrote up. This is not making no sense because American Home Shield would have just replaced the actual dishwasher.
I have had the worst luck with American Home Shield. I’ve had them send out a plumber. The plumber flooded my bathroom, and I couldn’t say anything because he didn’t speak English. The water was all over my floor, and the ceiling of my garage was making water spots. My faucet doesn't turn the way it’s supposed to turn.
I have been very dissatisfied. I feel like American Home Shield don’t take pride in the people that they have working for them. At the end of the day, American Home Shield is only able to function for the consumer. There is a principle that you have to follow as a company to keep your customers wanting to deal with you and not go to somebody else.

The contractor came out and the guy was extremely rude. He was kind of talking to himself, saying that we don't know how to maintain the dishwasher. I didn't feel comfortable with him. He was telling me that he was not going to do complete repair at that time. He took out a piece of that dishwasher and left it on the floor. And then he didn't tell us anything.
I thought he was ordering a part because while going, he said so. We said okay. The next day, I threw that part away because it was lying on the floor and he didn't tell us to keep it. When he came the next time, he was asking me where that part is.
My husband didn't feel comfortable at all and we just didn't want him to come to our house. I called American Home Shield and I told them not to send the same guy there. They said, no, he had to come and finish the work. Again, he came and since he entered the house, he was talking to himself.
People do that. They just don't want to tell us, but they will talk to themselves and make us feel bad. It's exactly what was happening there. And we were standing outside because I didn't want to interfere. My husband was not at home.
When I requested not to send him again, they still sent the part to him. And then he didn't do anything. I said, "I need to know now what we're gonna do." He said, "I don't know. You can call American Home Shield and they will answer your questions." While leaving also, he was very rudely talking to himself.
This was not acceptable and I called Home Shield and said I already ordered the dishwasher. I do not want to have him come into my house again. If they can help me with the amount I paid for the dishwasher, I would appreciate it." Because it was not our mistake. Everybody who came before to our house never had that issue.

Our water heater went out on a Thursday and they could not send a plumber for 6 days. They do not have any vendors that work on weekends and if the plumber states they are available even though it is 6 days out, they will not send anyone new without first contacting the vendor, which then delays the process longer. I have had 3 instances to use them and every time it was a week to 10 days before they could send anyone. I have cancelled my contract. Not worth going without hot water or a heater for that long.

We called American Home Shield because a microwave oven had gone out. It took a few days to get them to come out. They changed the fuse in it and it was working for three days, then went out again.
We've only had to use it this one time. Hopefully, there won't be more need to call Home Shield. While we got a good response, apparently, the repair did not hold. So far, we're happy with it.
The customer service was top-notch. I was there when my wife called. Everything was pleasant. We've got a call in and they're due to come out again today to hopefully repair it this time.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're delighted to hear that our customer service has made a positive impression on you and your wife. American Home Shield's site was fine when I submitted a claim for my refrigerator. The service was terrible.
Originally, AHS sent out Sears and the guy that came out spent about an hour trying to figure out how many pounds of Freon would go into the compressor, and then he goes, "Oh, I'm out of time. So we'll have to reschedule." I took off a day before that, but they never showed up. They sent me an email saying that they got too busy. They were unable to come and they had to reschedule me.
When they came out the second time, that was the second day I took off work. They scheduled another appointment. When I took the day off for the third day, they canceled that appointment. So I called back to the warranty company and asked them if they could just give me a whole different company. And they said okay Because I guess I had to wait so long before they could actually reschedule and send me over to another company.
That's when the other company, Mr Appliance, came out. Now, Sears was still sending me emails saying they were coming out to my house. So they actually scheduled another appointment. And guess what? They had missed that one too. They said they were unable to complete the call.
AHS ended up having to replace the refrigerator and the new refrigerator was being delivered the same day that Sears said they couldn't come. I never even responded to that.
AHS gave me a gift card for Lowe's, which I really hate Lowe's. I wish it had been Home Depot or BestBuy. The good thing is that I ended up getting a really decent sales lady this time and she assisted me. So, everything went smoothly.
I appreciated the fact that AHS replaced the refrigerator. However, I was without a refrigerator for some weeks. Because I had called them after Sears canceled and they said I had to wait so many days, that they had to allow them so many days to be able to complete the ticket. I ended up having to wait again.
Even in between that, I just called a refrigerator repair person on my own so, I paid $130 for that. So really, I paid twice for the service call with them.
I sincerely apologize for the difficulties you've experienced. Your patience and understanding mean a lot to us. Despite any shortcomings, we are grateful that you took the time to leave a review. Your feedback is invaluable and helps us improve our services.

My refrigerator won't cool and then cut off, cool and then cut off. I called American Home Shield on September 21st for them to work with me on the repair of my refrigerator. The contractors they sent were not good. One came and lost a part of the refrigerator. He took the bolt in the back and the bottom of my refrigerator with him. When he came back, he tried to say he didn't have the part. Even right now, I don't have the bottom of that refrigerator. The first person couldn't figure out what was wrong, but he told American Home Shield we have to order a part. When I called and asked if they sent the order, they told me American Home Shield hadn't gotten the order. I reached back out, still no orders.
Then the company told me they had to send somebody else out, but it took seven days. Another technician came out and sent back his report saying that he repaired the refrigerator, but he didn't actually repair it and it continued to do the same thing. It was terrible. I spoke to their department to cancel my membership. Then they sent a new company out to look at it. The contractor said the fridge can't be repaired, so American Home Shield wanted me to order a refrigerator from a list of refrigerators. I didn’t like any of what they were offering, so I took a cash out, which was a little less in value than what I actually had to pay out of pocket for.
I have told my family members that it’s better to save their money. If I had just saved what I paid American Home Shield every month, I could have bought a new refrigerator. If you are looking for someone who is gonna take care of you, that company might not be for you. They do not commit to the repairs they advertise. Our whole experience was horrific.

For our shower claim, the plumbing contractor was first-rate. The young man was straight up about it, looked at it, and asked the right questions. Our shower is a two-handle arrangement. It was strangely installed. But it has also reached the end of its lifespan. And the plumber is the one that told us this, that it really needed to be replaced as it doesn't turn on and off correctly. We've had this service three times since we moved here. All the work has been so great.
We’ve had great service till the last year or so cause when the plumber says it's worn out, you don't say, “No, they don't need to be replaced.”

This has been the worst experience that I’ve had with a warranty company. I don’t like the guy that American Home Shield sent to my house. He’s had an attitude every single time he’s come. It’s been terrible. He’s been extremely rude to my wife.
The soap catch for our dishwasher was broken. The first time that he came out, he told us there’s nothing wrong with it. It still didn’t work, so my wife reported it again. He told us the second time that he was gonna get a part. The third time, he said there's nothing wrong with it and there is no part available. He ripped the board on the side of the cabinet and put two gigantic screws. He never reported it, so the company can’t do anything about that.
We had to call and call for about two and a half weeks until we finally got told that the company was gonna send somebody else out. Same dude showed up and tried to argue with my wife that the board was like that before. He also damaged a 2x4 sideboard and broke a clip on there. He knows he broke the cabinet and tried to put a Band-Aid that didn’t look good. He even took the piece that he broke. Now I’ve had an open gap in my cabinet for about two and a half weeks now. I’m extremely pissed about the whole thing because I can’t take off of work and my wife has already taken off four times to deal with this. It still isn't fixed.
Nothing’s really getting done. We’ve called multiple times, and they keep telling us that they’re gonna have to get with the company and they’ll reach back out to us. I keep getting the runaround. I need a new dishwasher and I’ve got a giant hole in my kitchen. I have yet to receive a phone call back about what they’re gonna do to fix it.

The claim was for a Moen faucet that has a sensor touch, and it had gone bad. And the downside is it's hard to get water out of it totally when the sensor doesn't work at all. So, that's why they came out.
The actual owner came out probably within a week, and he came out on a Sunday, and determined what was wrong, and of course, they had to order a new one.
The claim process with American Home Shield has been fine. We've had this before, the same company, in our previous home, and we had claims. And the people that serviced weren't so good, for the most part. In this case, these people are very nice people. However, they canceled the first installation. This was back about a week ago. Then the second one, we understood they'd give us an hour's call, but they didn't have that, and he couldn't come back. So, we had to cancel the second one. This is the third one today, between 12:30 and 4:30 today.
Originally, when they quote them, they quote a full day. And since both my wife and I work. So, somebody's gonna take off. I'm in sales. I was fortunate, I could take off and work from home at least a few hours, but it really kind of messed us up. Hopefully, today, they'll come and make the installation, and it'll be fine. But they just don't have a really good system for letting the customer know, they've got a system. Be there the whole day, we'll do the best we can.

I've been with American Home Shield for 15 years. And I used to have them for my rental house in Washington and had very, very bad experiences with them. But my husband got hurt in Iraq. And he can do most everything or used to be able to, but now he can't. So, I have to get back up. So, I sold the rental house, finally. And now, we just have it on this old house that we live here in Weed.
We live in a very rural area. And it took them a long time to find somebody. They offered me at first to find someone myself and then they pay me back, which I don't trust them enough to do. So, I kind of just waited it out. And I had my husband go up and take it out and make sure that it wasn't something that he could fix.
So, we got that done. And then they finally found and this is a new guy and somebody that we know. It was his first job working for them. And they did a great job, spending a lot of time because it was very complicated. Because it's an old house. It was an old fan. And we found a replacement and bought it ourselves. Three guys spent, at least, four hours. It's a great job.
And then they had to fix the roof because the vent had leaked to the roof area of the vent. I just paid for it myself. I didn't even put the claim into American Home Shield, because I wanted to make sure that these guys got paid for this job. And I didn't want to mess that up.

I purchased the Platinum plan— the highest tier available to me— with the expectation that it would protect me from the kind of routine yet potentially costly mishaps that can occur in a home. My garage door fell off its rails and got stuck open, a situation I had specifically been looking to safeguard against. After discovering the issue, I used the company’s online portal to schedule a service call and paid the required fee.
The technician who arrived was polite, knowledgeable, and thorough. He even went out of his way to contact American Home Shield Warranty’s representative on my behalf. When the representative spoke to me, however, I was informed that none of my claim would be covered. I was shocked to learn that my Platinum plan offered no protection for this type of incident— exactly the scenario I had selected the plan to cover.
As a result, I now face the full cost of a new garage door and opener, approximately $3,000, in addition to losing the service‑call fee and the value of the plan itself. I have lived in my home for only two months and invested in the warranty with the understanding that this sort of event would be handled, yet the company’s coverage guidelines were not clear at the time of purchase.
Key takeaways:
Coverage ambiguity: The plan documentation and customer service interactions did not clearly state what was and was not covered. Prospective buyers should expect a more transparent description of exclusions.Communication gap: The technician’s effort to resolve the claim was undermined by the company’s refusal to honor the coverage. This disconnect eroded my confidence in the service.
Financial impact: The combined cost of the service call fee and the replacement hardware represents a substantial loss of value, especially for a premium plan. While the technician’s professionalism was commendable, the overall experience has left me feeling that American Home Shield Warranty is unreliable for the type of protection they promise. For those considering a warranty, I recommend carefully reviewing the terms and perhaps opting to cover such incidents through a separate, clearly defined home‑repair plan rather than relying on a general warranty.
I hope this feedback encourages American Home Shield to improve clarity and consistency in their coverage policies. Until then, I will be looking for more dependable options.

The light over my sink didn’t work, or so I thought, so I reached out to them and paid $100 for the guy to come out. The guy asked where the switch was, and I showed him. It turned out there was a different switch for that light that I didn’t know about because nobody told me. I was so mad, not at the guy, but at the Realtor. The guy apologized and said that if he could give me back my money, he definitely would. But he did come out and show me where the right switch was, and I understand.
The ice maker, I’m still having problems with. Somebody came out and replaced some parts, which I didn’t have to pay for. I appreciated that. It worked for a while, but it just stopped working again. I don't hear it making ice. When it works, it takes three to four minutes to drop one piece of ice. If I want more ice, I’ll be there all day. We had an AC problem and the service guy from Crispy Air & Heating told me that the coolant had been leaking and it froze the entire compressor unit, and we had to refill the coolant. It's really costly, so I would have ended up paying $2,000 to $4,000 out of pocket and American Home Shield wouldn’t have covered it. Or I could go directly with him, and he will be able to fix the situation as soon as possible and refill the coolant in the AC. I told him it hasn’t been a year since American Home Shield replaced the compressor and it’s a brand new unit, but he kept arguing with me, insisting I needed to replace the coolant. After a couple of days, I read the report he submitted, and it was replacement of the compressor coil, which was totally different from what he told me.
How can such a big company, providing warranty services across the valley and in multiple states not do the minimum basic vetting contractors before they assign these guys to somebody because they are turning out to be liars. All this was happening in the peak of summertime last year, and it took me literally more than 30 days just for the entire process to complete.

I’ve had AHS for almost five months now and what I like most is that the coverage that I'm able to get is in my budget range. I got them when the warranties for our appliances had expired.
This recent claim that I did was my first. The initial issue was the water was leaking out from where the ice is supposed to generate. So, the first time technician came out, he said the problem was some piece that was in the back of the refrigerator. He changed that out. But I still had the same problem.
I called the American Home Shield again and they had me call the same company again to make another appointment. He came out and he said it was the ice tray unit itself. So, he had to order the ice maker. He came out yesterday. He replaced the ice maker. But today, when I get up, there's still water that was dripping out and froze up inside the ice maker itself. I was gonna wait a couple of days to see if that going to clear up or not.
Dmitri was polite and he did what he thought he was doing right however I’m questionable about them. This will be the third time that they end up coming out. Something is not right.

I had two issues with the plumbing. There was a leaking hose bib off the house. But the bigger issue was a leaking water main line that was coming from the meter to the home. And there was a T-valve and the water may split into a couple of different branch-offs for the sprinkler, for the pool, and into the house. And one of those Ts was leaking.
I filed the ticket online and the website is okay. It doesn't really allow an accurate selection of the exact issue and description. You can put some comments in the text but that doesn't always get communicated. Still the contractor sent out was knowledgeable, nice and responsive.
When Mike was here, we got American Home Shield on the phone so he could describe the issues to them, and then got me on the phone with them. And I was frustrated because I submitted the request for a water main leak and American Home Shield denied it because they said it was not within the foundation of the home.
I was very frustrated that the problem was not covered by the home warranty. They buried some of their definitions in appendices. And they're always quick to pull out these esoteric references to deny something. But on the marketing and everything else, they're like, ''we cover everything and you're good.'' So I think there's a little bit of this ingenuity on American Home Shield.
I’ve had two other claims with AHS which were for HVAC and were resolved. The hose bib turned out to be a washer, which I could have fixed myself. I haven't really gotten deep into coverage or had any big issues, per se, like a washer/dryer failure or an HVAC failure. These were easily fixable problems. I've only been in the house for four months, but I've had three service calls.
A home warranty is important for a new homeowner for extra security when you've got a new house and you're still learning all the ins and outs and what the status of your property is. And American Home Shield was competitive in terms of their coverage and their rates.
I would tell friends and family to read the fine print of coverage and fingers crossed, that most of their issues and claims can be resolved relatively quickly. Of all the service calls where I've had an issue, the turnaround time has been pretty good. They let you know within an hour or so which contractor is assigned so that you can make a phone call directly to the contractor to get an appointment set up. You don't have to wait for the call which is nice.

I had a dryer go bad and it took a month and a half to get it fixed. I had to finally get it replaced because after we got it running, it broke again a day later. In the end, I can't complain because I got a new dryer, but to be without a dryer for over a month with a family of five, that was really bad. The technician was blaming American Home Shield. He was horrible. I called a couple times and it was always voicemail. Even American Home Shield couldn't get ahold of them. They need to get people that are more reliable. They fixed the problem, but it's just way too long.
Dear Craig,
Thank you for contacting American Home Shield! We sincerely apologize for the frustration. A service specialist will review the service request and follow up with you directly.

I needed a few things from American Home Shield and we got it. I didn't have any issues. Everything went smoothly. I’ve had it since I purchased my home last October, but this was my first time ever doing a claim. I actually had my grandmother call. She's the one that mostly stays in my home, so she took care of everything but kept me up-to-date about it. She was satisfied. So if she's satisfied, I'm satisfied.

I used American Home Shield not too long ago when our well stopped working and we had no water. Fortunately, I added the well when I got my policy, so we were covered. I put in my request online, then someone called me within 15 minutes. They asked me if somebody would be available the day after, but I said that we didn’t have any water. So she reached out to whoever was gonna come the day after, and came back on the line and said he’ll be here within the hour.
He called ahead of time to say he's on his way, and within an hour, he had it fixed. It was something really simple. I didn't need a whole new drilling of the well. It was just one of the pieces that was not acting right, and he replaced it, which was no easy feat because nothing was done correctly at this house. He had to struggle to figure out how to take it off and put it on. But he got it fixed and we had water, so it was great.

We've had American Home Shield for a few years and everything is good. We had a claim where the disposal wasn't working and we weren't sure if the issue was electrical or disposal, but the technician figured it out. It was some GFI on the disposal that was triggered due to some electrical issue.

We've had American Home Shield for five years now, since we bought the house. Overall, the customer service has been good. But there's been a couple of times where it was challenging. We call them to submit claims and sometimes you have to go through several representatives, but they have always been good.
I've had real good experiences and twice I didn't. Not that the issue wasn't taken care of, it was just drawn out lengthy before it was finally resolved. One of them was on my microwave. That aside, it's always been expedient and the technicians have all been professional. That experience has always been great.

Do your research because there are other companies out there. As soon as you make a claim, American Home Shield has someone to call. It's the other people that they call. I don't know that vetting process, who they call or if they look for the cheapest person. But they definitely have somebody to contact you within 24 hours. It's also not difficult for us to go on the internet and push a couple of buttons to submit a claim. But with my ice maker, the claim took almost three weeks.
Sears came out on a Saturday and said they were gonna order some parts. They ordered the parts and moved us back into Tuesday. A guy came out, put the parts in and said the ice maker should start working. But it didn't sound like anything was going. He said it would take all night for it to kick on, but nothing happened.
I called him back the next morning and said the ice was still not being made. They sent another guy three days later and when the guy put the little piece that they ordered, I asked him, "Shouldn't you troubleshoot it?" Nobody came out to troubleshoot it at all. Another guy came out and I showed him the part that they replaced. He said, "Oh, well, if it's not those parts, it's probably this part right here." We ordered that part and it took him another six days. So I was without ice for three weeks.

The dishwasher in the rental house wasn't working. It wasn't heating the water, and the spinner on the bottom under the lower roller had broken apart and had melted on the heating elements. I called AHS for service and they sent a Sears guy the next day who came in, looked at it, and said he didn't have the parts and he had to order them. I pretty well described the situation, and I gave the model number and the serial number so I kind of thought they'd come prepared.
The parts arrived and I had an appointment scheduled for Thursday that week, and all of a sudden, it got changed to Saturday. I had moved some stuff around trying to make it on the Thursday appointment. So, now, my Saturday's blown because of the 10-hour waiting period.
I totally get the window part because they can't anticipate how long the previous job is gonna take. But most places give you somewhere from a two to a four-hour window. So, I'm stuck going to this house and waiting. I'm looking at the website and the Sears and by 6 o'clock, which was the end of the window, nobody came.
I tried to call somebody at Sears, and I never got a live person. I got this chatbot that didn't tell me anything different than what was on the website. When I finally somehow got a person, they said that the repairman was coming. I waited till 7:30 that night. I was there since 7:00 AM and he never showed up. So, my whole day was shot.
I rescheduled for the following Saturday and waited and finally, he showed up about 4 o'clock in the afternoon. All he had to do was put the new heating element in, but he said the heating element's working and replacing it could create a situation with leaks down under the dishwasher.
I sat around again for nine hours for him to tell me that he didn't have to do anything because I installed the spinner. It was the most frustrating experience I've ever had in my life. Sears gave me a special number to call, and that number didn't go where it was supposed to go. AHS should think twice about Sears being their primary contractor. In the past, I've gotten generally a pretty good turnaround, which is why this was so shocking.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

I've also had good service in the past from AHS. I've got a few different homes and I have them all insured for protection with American Home Shield. However, there was an instance in the past where they didn't warranty something because the technician didn't know how to repair it. They basically deemed it was unrepairable.
When I told American Home Shield, I provided them with pictures and additional details, and they said they'll just have to stand by the original assessment. I requested for a second look, and they didn't really act on it. But overall, they're pretty good.
Recently, I filed a claim for my washer and dryer to AHS. The washer was just unstable and it was cycling through loops. The dryer would just intermittently shut off randomly. Somebody from Amtech came out, assessed it and I found that it needed some parts to be replaced. They placed the order and when they got both of those together, they communicated when they were coming out. Then they came out and did the repair. Amtech is pretty great.

We didn’t have a working dryer for over a month. The fuse kept burning out and that was preventing the dryer from drying or blowing hot air. The tech came four times. He tried replacing the part three times and did his best until he finally said he’ll just put an order for a new dryer. That contractor was great, and I had used them outside of American Home Shield. It was pretty good.
When the fuse blew out again, I went online. They said, “Are you filing a claim based on an issue not being fixed?” I said yes. There’s a drop-down list of items that you could select, but for some reason, the dryer wasn’t there. Because of that, I couldn’t submit the ticket online. I tried submitting that way two more times, but the option for follow-up just wasn't there, so I had to call in. This time, it didn’t have a long hold time when I called, but in the past, sometimes it did. That would be my only critique.

I had a horrific experience. I feel like American Home Shield and the contractor worked in tandem to scam me. I have issues with the washer and the hot water heater, and they wouldn’t cover both of them. We bought a house and had it inspected, and the report showed that the hot water heater was working. When we moved it, we found out it doesn’t work. The contractor said it’s a preexisting condition, which cannot be true because the inspection report said that it was working. They said they had to replace it, but they didn’t look at anything or find any broken parts. I then ordered another contractor that I had to pay for out of my own pocket who was able to identify the problem and what needed to be done.
The other issue is the washer. We’ve noticed since we use it regularly that it’s been thumping. The contractor said it’s a broken counterweight from excessive usage. American Home Shield denied the claim based on them saying it’s our fault. If you google the same washer, you’ll find that it’s a major issue on that. Plus, we’ve only used it for 45 days.
They denied the claims, but I paid $100 each time for someone to come out. I still have to pay for a brand-new hot water heater out of my own pocket. They didn’t even offer to reimburse me. If I want to appeal, I have to pay another $100 for another visit. And when I asked them the last time if I can get my money back and cancel my warranty, they said no. It’s the biggest scam ever. I’m really debating on filinga a suit against them.

Over the years, I’ve had ups and downs with American Home Shield. There’s stuff they cover, and there’s stuff they don’t. There’s also a little bit of finagling to find out how to get things covered. But they waived the service fee on my latest claim because I put my other house on the contract. That’s very, very okay business. My interactions with them are straightforward, and the people are honest.
On the last thing they did, they’ve been pretty straightforward. It’s unresolved and I’m waiting on Sears to resolve the matter. It’s not poor service, but it’s also not amazing. What’s frustrating is the repair time is the whole day, 8:00 to 4:00, and I’ve expressed that to both American Home Shield and Sears. An entire day of a window is not super flexible for most people. Outside of that, they’ve been fine.
The technicians need to be vetted more. I needed a small repair on a dishwasher. I told the tech what the issue was, but he didn’t fix it the first time, so he went back out again. I’m paying a monthly fee and a deductible, $150, to have someone come out. It’s not being repaired the first time, so I have to call back a second time a week later, two weeks later, to get it fully resolved.
There’s also been times where the problem wasn't resolved. A few years ago, a tech came out and did shoddy work. They weren’t able to track the gentleman down. I had some water issues in my previous property, and the plumber didn’t fix it. Instead, he told my tenant he could fix it for this price. He took some extra money from my tenant and fixed nothing. I reported it on Better Business Bureau and called American Home Shield. I never got further clarification on whether or not he was terminated, and it was never resolved. They had to go ahead and hire a second contractor to fix it. That was rather frustrating.
I sincerely apologize for the difficulties you've experienced. Your patience and understanding mean a lot to us. Despite any shortcomings, we are grateful that you took the time to leave a review. Your feedback is invaluable and helps us improve our services.

I had a plumbing leak. American Home Shield told me they’d call within 24 hours to set up an appointment, which they did. They came out at the date and time that they said, they repaired it, and I was left with instructions of what the next steps would be. I’ve done this in the past, and it hasn’t been a problem. I usually file my claim online because it's very easy.
The contractors that came out were friendly and knowledgeable. I have had interactions with customer service because when it comes to plumbing, they have to cut through Sheetrock. There’s a repair that has to happen after the actual plumbing has been repaired. When I call them, they respond pretty quickly and set up time for the Sheetrock people to come out. They usually fix things pretty well. The way they do it is that if they cut through Sheetrock, they leave for a week to make sure that the problem doesn’t reoccur. If it doesn’t reoccur, then they go ahead and close everything up.
The only thing I would say is sometimes it’s very hard to understand what people are saying. I don’t know if they’re using outside call centers, but you can’t really pick up what they’re saying. That can be a bit of a difficult thing. I have had issues with them in the past, they were a bit worse. I’ve had them for going on 20 years now, and back then, there was always an excuse why something couldn’t be fixed or why a problem was my fault. It used to be difficult for them to acknowledge that something fell under their contract. However, I’ve noticed that in the last couple of years, they’ve been a lot more responsive.

We like AHS, but the thing is there is a lot of dead time. It takes 24 hours to put the claim, then the vendor takes another day or so to give you an appointment. Unfortunately, a lot of those things are urgent stuff.
I would really appreciate some feedback if there is a process to really expedite the urgent things. There are certain things that should be more expedited rather than for me to wait a few days. American Home Shield needs to create an allowance and put some guidelines on how to get paid back for an emergency service that I could not wait for them. I have the platinum plan, the highest, and I’m paying higher monthly premium, but I’m paying out of pocket. Doesn’t make sense. There should be a tier where you have an emergency fund. We had two plumbing issues at the same property that happened within a couple weeks of each other. One was a leak in a faucet in a bathroom sink, and the other one was a garbage disposal leak. We've been a client of theirs for years, and we have a number of properties that have warranties from them because we have rental properties. And through the experience that we've had in our city of Santa Fe, New Mexico, they have one plumber that they always send out. And five years ago, he was acceptable. He did what needed to be done and it was properly repaired. But in recent years, for whatever reason, he has become a much less effective plumber.
He was sent out for the first job, which was the faucet in the bathroom sink, and he spent as little time as possible on the repair. My tenant let him in, and by the time I got there, he was gone and had told the tenant it just needed to be tightened. Later that day, the tenant called me and said it's still leaking. He came back a second time, and this time he said a valve needed to be replaced. And he replaced it wrong and created a second leak instead of fixing the first leak. So we told American Home Shield that we don't want this guy sent out anymore. They allegedly put his name on a list so that he would not be assigned to us.
Two weeks later, we had the garbage disposal problem and they assigned him to us. I called back and told them that we already said we don't want him. They said okay, but then they couldn't find anybody else, so they assigned him back to us later. And we had to escalate to the executive relations team for them to give us outside authorization so that we can go and hire our own plumber.
They make it a hassle to get reimbursed for that too. You have to have an authorization number. You have to get through their maze of telephone punch in this and then punch in that. We've put up with it over the years because we have rental properties that we knew there would be appliances in particular that would need to be replaced. And so we've actually benefited, but it's taken years off my life, having to deal with it. The money is a far cry from what would compensate me for the hassle, so we've canceled some of our warranties with them.
We've kept some of the warranties, the ones where we still have appliances that we're pretty sure are gonna need some work. And in our primary residence, we had a new oven, air conditioning unit, boiler, cooktop, all that they installed. So we felt like we got what we needed and were willing to cancel the contract. But they have a horrible system and they make it purposely difficult for the customer to navigate the system so that people basically just give up.
I understand how frustrating this experience must have been, and I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We’d welcome the opportunity to speak with you further and address your concerns.
Sincerely,
Kim

In the past, I had several issues with the contractors. American Home Shield should have more knowledgeable people and people that are actually in the area of the home. They have to make sure that the contractors are aware of the issue and have the experience to deal with it.
I also wish that they would inform me before they increase the monthly fee, because I was paying $79.99 and I’m being charged $83.99 now. I’ve been with American Home Shield since 2019, but I’ve been thinking about finding someone else that would do better. I recommended people to get the warranty when I first signed up with them. At that time, I didn’t have problem getting anyone to come out to work. But right now, I probably would not suggest it because of the fact that they don’t always have someone. It puts more of a hardship on me, because I have to wait past 24 to 48 hours. If they can’t find someone, I have to figure out who I need to call. That can be a little hard because I don’t know who’s reliable. If I call my neighbors, they’re old too, and some of them can’t remember who they used.
I found out I had a leak in my sewer system. The company gave me $354 to find someone to do the work. Of course, the money that they gave me wasn’t enough to find somebody because they have to dig up my floor. I had some faucets that needed to be replaced, and they sent me checks for that. I still hadn’t gotten those fixed because I haven’t been able to find anyone. My tub had a leak too, and they couldn’t find someone, so I called someone on my own. They said it needed to be re-caulked, which my grandson ended up doing. I went on YouTube and I was gonna try to do them, but I take care of my daughter with disabilities and my husband who is deaf and has a brain tumor. I really don’t have the time to do it myself.
The customer service is usually pretty good. If I have a problem, I’ll call them. Their people are patient, courteous, and professional, but some of them are reading from the book. That’s sometimes annoying when you wanna talk to someone that’s real and know how to answer your questions without looking in the book to find them.
I had an issue with my central air and an in-wall unit in my daughter’s room. It was staying very, very cold only in certain areas. The guy who came out didn’t find anything wrong except for the fact that I needed to change the filter. I was under the impression that I have change it every six months, so that’s what I was doing. The guy told me it needs to be changed every 30 days. I had to replace the filter in my central air, while the in-wall unit just had to be washed. The young guy was very knowledgeable and polite. I’d use that contractor again if I needed to. Since he came out, it went back to normal.

It's been almost four weeks already, and I have not heard back from AHS, which is very concerning. The tech sent me a quote for 4,000 something dollars and said they can repair it the next day, which was outrageous. I told him no, that we have to go through the process with AHS. They mentioned something later about the sensors, that they can repair it and said I can take the cashout. I told them I’m not happy with the situation since I don’t even know what's been reported.
It turned out the contractor wasn't submitting their reports to AHS for three weeks. I had to contact AHS almost every other day. I reached out through chat and calls. I asked them if they can stop the payment of my fee to the contractor.
I have a very negative perception of the technicians that American Home Shield uses. With my recent issue, they were very fast in diagnosing the issue. What I didn’t like is they told me how much it will cost me if they repair it the next day. They even asked me to fill out a survey. The technician clicked 5 stars and told me I can just write my concerns down so AHS will read them and address it. That doesn’t make me feel comfortable as a customer.
I trust American Home Shield. I don’t trust the contractor. AHS has to be the one to tell me the diagnosis and how much they will cover and the cost if they won’t cover it. This is second time I used them. The other claim went very well. With this one, I’ve been waiting for a long time and I don’t know what's happening.
I sincerely apologize for the difficulties you've encountered, and I want to thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. I’d truly appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience further and work toward a resolution.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for a long time and have referred them to people that I know. There’s been times where they’ve been great, but with big-ticket items like air conditioner, I have spent hundreds of dollars out of pocket. The last situation put a bad taste in the mouth.
My AC system wasn't cooling to where the temperature was set. I filed a claim through their app, which is easy to use. I got a call to set up an appointment, and the contractor came out. I wasn’t really happy with their diagnosis, and what they wanted to do didn’t make sense to me. I felt they were just trying to get money off of me. I called around and ended up paying a different company to come out and do the work, which was a lot less expensive than going through American Home Shield. I’m disappointed with that. When I reached out to them, they didn’t care. They’ve got people from other countries that are handling their stuff. I felt I’m just a number to them.
I understand how frustrating this experience must have been, and I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We’d welcome the opportunity to speak with you further and address your concerns.

I think AHS is a good company. It’s just that when they contract with some contractors, I don’t know if they really look at a lot of the reviews. A lot of the reviews on the Better Business Bureau website were AHS customers and against this particular contractor, and they complaining of the same things. That’s the reason why I was kind of leery, because they said I needed a coil replacement and I noticed that that was the common theme throughout. But after the coils were replaced, a lot of people have even more problems, and the original issue wasn’t really resolved.
The contractor sent by AHS wasn’t actually able to repair my AC, so they cashed me out instead, and the AC ended up being serviced by a company I contacted. .
Overall, American Home Shield satisfies everything I need. They’ve been very helpful in 100% of my issues, even this one. They understood my issues with the contractor, and so they cashed me out and I was able to get the AC repaired. It turned out that that I made the right decision.

We had a rapid leak coming from our freezer. It flooded and damaged a part of the kitchen floor. We had an American Home Shield technician come out. He found the leak and its cause, and he was able to fix it. Our only disappointment is with American Home Shield because it took them more than 48 hours to assign someone to us. They didn’t reach out to me, so I called them to check on the status. They called back confirming that our claim has been already assigned to someone. The technician was competent and solved the problem quickly.
I was confused though and got concerned, when American Home Shield sent me an email after the repair which made me think that we were gonna have to pay more money. They sent two emails telling me that they were calculating the balance, reviewing our claim, and they would let us know if we owe more money. It didn’t make sense because that’s not how our policy works. We paid the deductible once the order was placed. Then they never got back to us.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and providing such detailed feedback. We're genuinely sorry to hear about the delays you faced, particularly given the urgency of your situation. My refrigerator was not cooling, and had been out for about three and a half months. It’s still not fixed. The technicians sent by American Home Shield have been out six times. I’ve called them back, I’ve rescheduled, and they’ve come out. They messed it up, then had to try to refix it. Then they sent the wrong parts, and it took forever to get parts. I talked to American Home Shield and they kept saying they can’t do anything because it was all with the contractor. The technicians just kept messing it up.
To not have a fridge in your house is pretty inconvenient. I’m at the point where me and my wife are actually going today to just buy a new fridge. However, I have another work order that’s been out there for about two months. The guy replaced every part in the dishwasher and couldn’t get it started. I’ve been without a dishwasher for about three months now, and I’m just waiting to hear back to see if they’re actually gonna give me a brand new dishwasher.

We were home and available all afternoon, having taken the day off for this appointment. I was connected with the contractors in a matter of days, if not within a day. Because of my travel schedule, it did take a few weeks to get everything completed.
The heating and air conditioning company kept calling to make sure I knew they were working on it, since they had to order the units and were waiting for them to arrive. I've had American Home Shield for several years, but I don't think it's worth it because I pay 100 a month, over $1,000 a year, and you still have to pay when they come out. The appliances cost less than that. I don’t think they’re really worth it. I'm basically throwing my money away. So I'm considering cutting them out because it's too expensive.

I've been with American Home Shield for three years. My parents had them and they never had any problems, so I signed up. I submit the claims online because it was just very long and a lot of options I had to go through over the phone. Online was just simpler. The technician arrives at the house in no more than two days and the interaction has been great.
American Home Shield is fantastic. The claims are settled within a day or two. One time, they sent a worker out for my fridge and they didn't fix it. But the second guy they sent out was just more knowledgeable and he fixed it right away.
Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback! We’re thrilled to hear that the online claim process with American Home Shield has been convenient for you and that our technicians quickly resolved issues with your home appliances. It’s fantastic to know that the team's prompt service and the second technician’s expertise in fixing your fridge have reinforced your satisfaction. If there’s anything else we can do for you, please don't hesitate to reach out. Your satisfaction is our priority, and we're here whenever you need us.

AHS sent a contractor out for my ice maker. They had to order parts, so it took a week and a half. They fixed it and I have not had issues since, but their communication wasn’t up to par. They did not tell me what the issue was.
Thank you for sharing your experience with American Home Shield. We're glad you found the online service setup straightforward and user-friendly, and we appreciate your positive note about the repair's effectiveness. However, we regret there's been a communication setback and understand the impact of not being informed throughout the process nor testing the ice maker afterward. American Electrical Services was sent out by American Home Shield to fix our breaker. Some breakers jumped and caused an outage. My wife was home at the time, and the technician was good about explaining what he was doing and everything was fine. Just recently we were in South Texas when three other breakers suddenly jumped. I have an additional refrigerator freezer in the garage, and it went out, so everything inside was spoiled and we had to throw out a bunch of food. I have yet to call them, but I’d hate to pay another $100 deductible for three breakers. This is my third year with them. There was one year I signed up with a different company by mistake, and when the contract was up, I immediately went back to American Home Shield.
We genuinely appreciate your ongoing trust in American Home Shield for your home warranty needs and sharing your recent experience. It's great to know that our partnered provider, All American Electrical Services, communicated effectively and attended to your electrical issues. We're here to ensure the reliability of your home system, and even though there was an inconvenience with your circuit breakers, we strive to do better. If you need any further assistance, please feel free to reach out to us at any time. We look forward to continuing to fulfill your warranty needs effectively. We moved here three and a half years ago and had American Home Shield. They're terrific. They've been very responsive and they do exactly what they say they will do. I'm really happy with them.
They did a check recently on my air conditioner. It was a free service to have it checked it yearly. They couldn't fix my dishwasher because it was too old and they couldn't find parts so I got a new dishwasher.
One time, they came out and they worked on my old refrigerator. I kept hoping they would condemn it because it’s 20 years old. But every time I get a technician they say the older refrigerators are better than the new ones. They last longer. The technician came back after two weeks with the parts, fixed it, and now it's running great.
I usually wait till I've got two or three things to file a claim for. It's $100 per call, so if I did two or three appliance claims, then I'm gonna be paying 100 instead of 200 or 300. They're always very positive and very helpful. My concern is that they let me evaluate at the end if I was able to understand them.
Every one of the contractors I've ever had has always been very personable. But there were a couple of guys who came one time who refused to move my refrigerator. I called and complained, and they sent someone else out and he move my refrigerator.
I live in a senior complex with lots of limited-income people, and I recommend AHS to everyone. Because if you get a $700 leaky sink, they can't afford it. So, if you pay your 40 bucks a month, then it's $100, and they'll fix it.

Marc

I had a work order for hot water heater. They sent some guy over, he just looked at it, and said he would have to charge me $900 more because there's a galvanized pipe there. He wanted to change the pipe for the whole house with that price.
AHS was going to get a second opinion, and they said if he’d say the same as the other guy, then it needs to be replaced, which I agree with. They made an appointment but nobody called me back. I was working four days a week, 10-hour days and I couldn't be home on the schedules they set.
I tried to call the company that they assigned. I got hold of some woman, and I couldn't hear anything that she said because kids were screaming in the background. Since I was busy, I had an outside plumber come and he said he will only have to replace 6 inches of the pipe and not the whole house. It cost me 1500 in total.
I tried to cancel my policy because my home was sold, and they couldn't do it over the phone for some reason, and just hung up on me. They said they were gonna call me back, and nobody called me back.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

Took 23 minutes and two representatives to cancel my plan and not renew. I told the first person 11 times to cancel. They put me on hold 3 times throughout our conversation. He then transferred me to another lady. I told her to cancel and delete my account 10 times. She also put me on hold for 3 times. They asked for the same information from me multiple times in between being put on hold. Finally she told me that my account will no longer auto renew. Immediately after hanging up the first guy called me asking if the cancelation went through. Shouldn't he know that information lol. Anyway I am going follow up tomorrow if I do not get a confirmation email and tell them to send me one stating that my plan will terminate and will not renew and for them to delete my data and contact information.

We used AHS for the first time in October 2026. We had a sink that was stopped up in the kitchen and our hot water heater went out. The plumbing company that AHS dispatched to Milton Plumbing company out of Ohio. This company has had 31 bad reviews on 12 months and even though they are not accredited on the BBB complaints have been filed and they have a rating of an F. I understand exactly why that is, the plumber came out ran a snake down the sink one time, did nothing else, the tech stated they would send put a different tech to go down the main line, it's been THREE weeks with the company scheduling and not showing up. I had a plumber come out today and he had it cleared in 15 minutes. I had to pay $165.00 to have it cleared.
AHS should not keep a contract with a company that has hundreds and hundreds of complaints against them for not showing up or doing repairs properly. The same company charged us $1050.00 to upgrade our furnace and did not bring it up to code as required. I plan on filing a complaint against AHS and Melton Plumbing with the BBB and the Attorney General's Office.

I would give it negative stars if I could! I’ve been an American Home Shield customer, and my experience has been extremely disappointing. I filed a refrigerator claim on September 30, 2025, and after three separate technicians, multiple parts orders, and more than 17 days without a working fridge, the issue still isn’t resolved. One technician confirmed the fridge is beyond economical repair and needs replacement, yet AHS continues to delay with more repair attempts.
I’ve lost hundreds of dollars in spoiled food, have been living out of a cooler, and my health and mental wellbeing have been affected by the ongoing stress. Their customer service representatives offer apologies but no action, and their contractors are inconsistent in communication and professionalism. While I appreciate that my $100 service fee was eventually refunded, this experience has shown that American Home Shield does not prioritize customer care or timely resolution. After this ordeal, I cannot recommend their services to anyone seeking dependable home warranty coverage.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy American Home Shield and the service we provide! I would be glad to speak with you and assist with the service you have experienced.
