I will rate AHS zero because nobody contacted me. The garage remotes were not working and we couldn’t pull the garage door up. I called a guy and he showed up. But I never got the diagnosis or any result if the claim went through or if he’s gonna fix the issue. I never got a call from American Home Shield as well. I tried to call but it was always on the queue. I paid $125 and nothing was done.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

The heat-related issue that Aire Serv of Northeast Ohio came out for has been solved well. The technician was good and knowledgeable. He explained the problem and submitted it for approval. Then the next day, AHS provided the approval. The repair cost is somewhere around $1,300. But his manager there also explained about upgrading the unit since the value of my machine is 2,000 days old, and that AHS provides some discounts if I want to upgrade.
However, my recent experience with my plumbing issue, I had to spend more money because AHS sent a service provider who damaged the floor of the toilet. There was no problem for leak on the floor, but while fixing one, he damaged it and left. And he never responded. I was fed up of communicating that multiple times. I asked for a supervisor escalation, then no one turned up and no one called me back.

I recently submitted a plumbing claim, and the process itself was fine. I usually submit claims over the phone and speaking with the representative was also okay.
The contractor that was sent out did an excellent job. He was very knowledgeable, explained what was wrong, and clearly described what needed to be done. One of the toilet issues was repaired successfully, although we are still having an issue with another toilet that was fixed previously.
There are areas that could be improved. Faster service would be appreciated, and customers should be kept better informed, especially regarding premium increases. My premium has continued to go up over time, and I do not feel that the increases are clearly explained. This has been frustrating and has made me consider cancelling and switching to another provider.
Overall, my experience with them has been okay.

There's no truth behind American Home Shield's words. They misled customers and my customer satisfaction with them is zero. I called in August and the representative explained what was going to be covered. She talked about the gold plan and said it was 50% off at the time, $30 a month, and $100 per call or deductible. She said if I authorized the charge, I would have to wait about a month, and after that, if anything happened, I could call.
I told her I needed to think about it, but I kept getting messages from different people after. I even asked them not to call, but the same representative called again and asked if I talked to my husband and if we could go ahead. I said fine, and we went over all my appliances, like the built-in oven, built-in gas stove, cooktop, dishwasher, and refrigerators. I was told everything was going to be covered.
So she got my credit card and after signing up said I was already in their system. But they never mailed me the contract despite asking several times. In September they charged my card but they still haven't mailed the contract. I called AHS and the representative said they already mailed it and I might not have received it. So I asked instead if they could just email it to me. She assured that I was already in their system and I should not worry about it.
In October I noticed that my built-in oven was not working. American Home Shield sent someone and when he came, he pulled the built-in oven out, and said the problem was the board. He had to order it and come back a week after. When he returned, he pulled the oven out again and put the new board. But the built-in oven is still not working. He now said that the problem is electrical and won't touch it anymore. The technician didn't give any paperwork, not even any evidence or statement. Instead, he took my board with him and said American Home Shield will call me to set me up with the electrical contractor.
A week later, I kept calling them and asked if they could send somebody because I don't know what's going on. So they sent a guy from City Electrical who went to my circuit breaker board and said that the problem isn't electrical. He showed where the electric goes and explained that he doesn't know where the problem is. He asked where is the other guy who pulled the oven out is and insisted he won't touch the built-in oven. He then left.
So I called American Home Shield to tell what happened. After hearing my story, they said they won't send both technicians. I asked who's gonna take this up and their reply was I should hire a handyman myself to pull the built-in oven out. They even said it's against the law to pull anything so they're not gonna touch the built-in oven. I told them that the third-party technician they first sent, already took the oven out twice. The representative denied this but I insisted that he did it twice - in front of my husband with the two of us looking at him.
It turned out the guy didn't report that he pulled the built-in oven out when he's not supposed to touch it. I kept calling American Home Shield but their reply was they're not gonna send anybody unless I hire someone.
In November, I called AHS and said that I don't want to pay $30 a month when my problem was not solved. I told them I was very upset paying for two months and paying an extra $100 and not going anywhere. I even disputed this to my credit card company that the problem is solved, the oven is fixed, and that a technician came to the house after canceling my contract. American Home Shield is a very unreliable company and I'm gonna tell all my friends about them.

Our washing machine was leaking. I just made a call. AHS guys got ahold of somebody quickly. He came earlier than scheduled. The contractor was a good man. I like him. He went above and beyond. He noticed the dryer door could swing the other way and made it easier. And he just did it real quick and fixed it. My wife could a have better access.
I like American Home Shield. I was with another company before and it had a lot of problems. The first claim we had with AHS was smooth. They have the service tech in the area but the other company couldn't find one. AHS has somebody here and got it done in a hurry. I appreciate that. I would recommend anybody to go to American Home Shield in the state of Utah.

American Home Shield has worked out fine for us so far. The dryer had a smell and was making a lot of noise, like thumping and a really high-pitched noise when it was running. AHS sent me a picture of who's coming. I let the contractor in, he did his thing, and cleaned up after himself. The dryer has been working okay. We've had AHS since 2000, when we bought the house. They give you peace of mind that if something happens, make a couple of calls and someone can come out and take care of it, instead of trying to hassle and find someone to do it. I'm a contractor, so I know it's nice to know that I don't have to worry about it.
Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us! We're thrilled to hear that the ease of the claims process and the professionalism of the service technician left a lasting impression. I recently had a claim with AHS and I requested a note and what the guy put in. I had to get a second opinion because he left the heat and claimed that there was biological growth. But the second opinion didn't find any and fixed the heat. It was just low on Freon. I still have a problem with the thermostat and I can’t set it to cool and heat.
The last contractor put me in for the upgrade credit, but the financing claims I have a repossession or a foreclosure on my credit. But I’ve never financed a car so I don’t have a repossession. I also don’t have a foreclosure because I’m still living in and making payments to the only house I’ve ever bought. They couldn’t tell me exactly what the policy was.

American Home Shield has been satisfactory. I had a problem with my heating system on the roof. They scheduled it reasonably quickly. They wanted to come out the next day, Friday, but I was unavailable. I told them that Monday was fine. They said they would come out on Saturday instead.
The tech gave me a two-hour window. He came out within 10 minutes of the beginning of the window and was presentable. He asked me a couple of questions about the system. He thought at first that he wouldn't be able to do anything, but he was able to fix it in about five minutes. He was out of here in 20 minutes or less. He wasn't annoying and didn't leave any tools on the roof. He didn't call later to find out whether everything was okay.
I don't think they saved me a lot of money in this particular instance since my regular contractor told me that the system is old. Maybe if I had paid out of pocket, it would have cost me less. The issue could be simple or could be a big deal. I can't rave about them saving me $9,000 on a heating system, not yet. They responded, didn't haggle over anything, and did what they were supposed to. My relationship with them is fine.

It took a couple of days for the technician to come out. He had to order a part, but he was able to repair it, and we have not had any issues with the dryer since the repair.
In addition, everyone who helped us when I called in was pleasant. I recommend American Home Shield to anybody.

I had a leak and I didn't know where it was coming from, but it was in the back closet on the back side of a bathroom. I went online and looked through the selections for what the problem was. Once you put in the plumbing, it'll give you a list of options, so I chose leaks and then submitted the claim. I was sent the name of the actual company and who would be doing it, and that they would reach out to me within X amount of days.
When the contractor came out, he said even just to diagnose it, based on what he saw, he would have to cut into the wall and he would have to call American Home Shield to get information from them on what he would need to do next. They said it was an additional $175 to cut into the wall. I asked him if there would be additional charges if there's something in the wall that needs to be repaired. He said it probably would, but he would cut into the walls and see what he finds then he would have to get that information back to American Home Shield and they would tell him what to do next.
So I told him I didn't wanna move forward because I was already at $275. What if whatever they call costs an addition $500? Then I'm at $800 for a service call that I pay a monthly fee for, and that was a bit steep. It made more sense for me to call another plumber and ask them to come out because all of that is included in their fees.
American Home Shield gave me a refund on my $100 and asked if I was sure I didn't wanna let them cut into the wall and pay that fee, and I told them no. Honestly, the plumbing part is the worst part of the service. I definitely wouldn't recommend the plumbing because I don't think it covers as much as I think it covers based on what they put online. If I'm looking at their ad for what they cover on plumbing cost, I think it's misleading. If you have an option to get plumbing coverage somewhere else, I would do that.
But I've had other things that American Home Shield has come out and done, and it only cost me that $100 fee. Even just for the repairs I've had on my AC, it's been worth it. If you're getting American Home Shield for your AC unit or appliances, those repairs are worth it. Those are the ones that I have used mostly and it's been beneficial for me in that way.

Marc

I was not happy with AHS. They offered me a couple of months' service if I would stay with them. When I needed them, they didn't help me. My house got struck by lightning. I had to pay for the electrician $100 and the dryer technician $100 but they did not cover the garage door opener and the fireplace that got hit. They didn't replace the screen that went up in the soffit of the outside wood around the house. That got blown out when the lightning hit. My son found it. It was broken. He glued it back together and he put it back up in there.
What am I paying $43 a month for? They only covered two things, the dryer and getting electricity turned back on. It took a month for the dryer done. I can keep my $40 a month and put up with that inconvenience myself, blame only myself and take care of it.

I would love to have this guy from AG Appliance Repair out every time. He was great and very knowledgeable. The refrigerator and freezer weren't working, and when he came out, he knew right away what the problem was. He said he had to order parts. My husband asked him a few questions about it because in the past, the technican said that they would get the parts and then the parts came to our house. But that was a previous thing. We had no issues at all. The guy ordered the parts. It came in. He brought it and fixed the refrigerator and freezer sooner than we anticipated.
The ice maker stopped working right after that so we called American Home Shield to find out if we had to do a new claim. They said no and that they would reopen the old one. There were a a couple of glitches in the phone calls and my husband was on hold for a long time. But it's good—someone will be out tomorrow and we get the same guy that was there the first time so that's great. I would highly recommend American Home Shield. You do pay the $125 service charge, but they will do more than one appliance at the same time. And our salesperson was very knowledgeable and gave fast service. I was very satisfied.

My garbage disposal was making a lot of noise. I called AHS to come out to repair it. Speedy Plumbing came out and replaced the entire thing. But after they replaced it, the water in the sink kept backing up. I called them for a recall, but the contractor told me to call AHS for a recall. I've left a couple of messages. I got a response from AHS saying they were gonna schedule something, but I have not seen them again. I was gonna call again on Monday to see about that because the water continues to back up in the sink where the garbage disposal is located.
I had AHS several years ago, and I was totally dissatisfied with them. But this time my experience with them has been excellent. They answer the phone properly and their website works. I have the worse experience than any other company I've dealt with yet every month that I pay for AHS’ service. I had a great experience with Kenny Plumbing for my hot water heater tank however I have a refrigerator which is bad for the last seven months and they kept trying to fix it and sending different vendors home.
They replaced a bunch of parts, and it's still not working. It's leaking water, it's not getting cold, food is getting bad. I got kids' medication in the fridge and they go bad. We’re slipping because of water all over the floor. My hardwood floor got damaged because of water. The contractor would tell AHS they're going to replace it but apparently somebody forgot to send the report. Now we have to get a second opinion.

I had a claim for my dishwasher and the process was easy. I went online, submitted my claim and paid my service fee. A few weeks later, the dishwasher repair guy came out. But it couldn’t be fixed so they gave me the option of either purchasing my own or going on their website and purchasing one.
My AHS network service provider came from Idaho. Because I live in a rural area, it takes a while for them to come. I wish I could use some people around here and get reimbursed back for it but I don’t think I can. Other than that, the guy was friendly and it was a good experience.

My refrigerator stopped producing cold air before Thanksgiving. My wife was in a panic not having the refrigerator to keep food cold. Having a family and not having a refrigerator makes things more difficult, especially around the holidays.
When the tech came out, he diagnosed that the compressor needed to be replaced. It took a little longer than I had hoped because they didn’t have the part on the truck. They had to order it or get it approved. The Friday after the holiday, they were able to come out with the part. But overall, the issue was fixed within several days.
Having AHS is somewhat a necessary evil. When we first got AHS, it was beneficial. But over the last eight years, they’ve raised their prices considerably to the point where it makes me think it’s not worth it. The monthly cost of doing it is high. I understand there’s a callout fee, but it seems like their costs are rising faster than they should be. So I’m not as happy with that. There are other companies out there that are willing to offer similar services for less money.
For customer service, everything is online. It’s set up relatively easy and they’re willing to take your money right away before anybody is dispatched. You gotta make sure your payment is in there and everything’s charged. They make it very convenient when taking your request and making sure you get billed. But if you need to clarify or get ahold of anybody to talk to or follow up, it’s extremely difficult. When you do get hold of someone, none of them seems to understand or be able to help very clearly. That’s very frustrating.

My furnace went out downstairs. I have two, one up and one down. The contractor got it back on and said it needed a certain type of motor. He also checked the upstairs furnace because it was really loud. Come to find out that it needs the same motor. He said he would order the one for the downstairs. I called the contractor and asked them when they are going to install it. They told me that I had to pay a co-pay of $300 because they have to redo some stuff in there. I paid it. And to this day, I still have no heat downstairs. I live in the house with my sister, my 92-year-old mom, and my dog. I keep my mom upstairs because I have heat there.
It's terrible. All they keep telling me is as soon as they get the part, they'll send it. I asked AHS if there's a way they can get it from somebody else. And AHS said they could give me money, but I said that's not gonna happen. I'm not gonna go buy the part and find somebody to put it on. I intend on getting the other motor for both downstairs and upstairs. But I figured I'll wait until I get the downstairs going, because I can't afford to have two furnaces down. Once I get that, I don't mind paying another $300 so he can order the part and fix the upstairs. Then I have time, because I still have heat up there.
I’ve had no heat down here all month, ever since the end of November. I told AHS, I have 25 people coming over to my house this week for Christmas dinner that I'm supposed to cook, and I got no heat. I don't cook now because as soon as I cook, the food's cold. We’ve just been eating out. My mom has been eating upstairs. That's what we do.
I have never had a problem with AHS before. But since this last incident, I'm very dissatisfied. I feel it's your job as my home warranty people to go try and find a part somewhere else. I don't understand why it's so hard and why it's taking so long.

He had no clue what he was doing. He tried to sell me stuff that wasn't even necessary, insisting that the door needed to be rebounced and that it needed a part that I can’t get anymore. It’s a dying 26-year-old Craftsman. There were days it didn't even work. It was just ridiculous. The guy couldn't even open the door by himself.
I canceled American Home Shield in December. I only had them until January 4th. Talking to somebody is very difficult. I fought with them to take me off of automatic payment. After six phone calls, my credit card is off of my account. I then told them I wanted to cancel the renewal, but they told me I can't do that until at least the 2nd or 3rd of January. They said they can't do it ahead of time. If I wait till the 2nd or 3rd and it renews on the 4th, I physically have to give them a payment because we removed the credit card. But it takes them four days or more to contact me, and it will be too late. They wanna hit me with a $50 charge to cancel. I'm done with them. I would never ever recommend them to anybody in my life again.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're pleased to hear that EBO Contracting met your expectations during the garage door opener replacement. However, we regret any inconvenience caused by the initial contractor and the difficulties you faced with our customer service. Your feedback on the issues with automatic payments and cancellation policies is important to us. We apologize for any frustration you've encountered and appreciate that you have made us aware of this situation. The claim was for the garbage disposal. The disposal was only two years old, but it just stopped working one day. When the plumber came, he said it wasn't broken. The plate was just stuck. He put this long, wrench-looking thing in. He just moved it, then hit the switch on the wall, and it came back on. It's back to normal. He showed me, if it ever gets stuck again, to just turn the plate and it should be fine.
However, I would only rate American Home Shield a 2 because I couldn't understand the plumber. There was a language barrier. I wanted to understand what happened but he was having a hard time communicating. I had to pull out my Google translator.
I understand your frustration regarding your most recent American Home Shield service experience. I would be glad to speak with you to further assist in a resolution.

Sears came out to our house the first time. They didn’t even pull the stove out and didn’t even look at anything. My wife said they were only in for a couple minutes and they said the warranty company is not gonna cover the issue. They said AHS wrote the wrong information, and that it was a stove top, not a slide-in range. But the serial number, the model number and all the information is correct so obviously, AHS knows what it is. The tech went out to the van and my wife thought that he was gonna call somebody. But then he just drove off.
Then a week later, they told us they were gonna come out. There was no phone number with a live person so we can’t call anybody. We sat there for nine hours and AHS couldn’t get anybody. Then I got an email saying that my service has been completed. They tried to say that they came but I have three cameras outside of my house and nobody ever came. He marked that he came and that he completed the work, and then signed my name saying that I had approved it.
I told AHS that Sears are never allowed on my property again so they sent out another company. They came out four different times and then finally said they couldn’t fix it. They wrote a letter to American Home Shield saying that it was non-repairable and they recommend it being replaced. AHS disconnected their contract and said they needed to hire another person to come out. I told them it’s been seven weeks and they’re trying to send out a third person to take a 7th day off of my day from work. At this point, I was gonna take it to the next level.
I sent an email directly to the CEO on LinkedIn and then posted on his board a really long detailed account of all the stuff that had gone on. The very next day, they wanted me to take the post down. Over the phone, they offered to write me a check for the full value of the stove. The minute the money hit our account the following day, I pulled the post down but it took me embarrassing the company for them to care.
Then we had a claim for our dishwasher. Actually, we were hesitant to even file a claim because of everything that happened here. But we had a problem with our dishwasher and they had somebody out two days later. It’s been seven days since they came out and we haven’t heard a thing from them. I looked at the claim this morning and it still shows “pending work order”. I don’t think it would take a week for the vendor to get a circuit board approved for a dishwasher, but apparently it does.
We were gonna cancel and then I had a decent conversation with their owner loyalty department. They asked if we were having any other problems with anything else. They’ve said a lot of stuff to try to make me stay with them and to prove they’re gonna do better. But if the dishwasher is just as bad as the stove was, it will be completely done.
I sincerely apologize for the difficulties you've experienced. Your patience and understanding mean a lot to us. Despite any shortcomings, we are grateful that you took the time to leave a review. Your feedback is invaluable to us.

They had to send out two guys from Accord Appliance to fix my ice maker. The first guy said that he can’t fix it, that it’s above his skill set. The second guy came after a couple of weeks and said that this is a known issue for Whirlpool and that the first guy just doesn’t like to work on Whirlpool.
The odd thing is American Home Shield denied the claim, saying that the second guy said it was misuse and abuse of the appliance. I called American Home Shield and they decided to send out a second opinion. Second opinion came out and said I need a new freezer door, which they told American Home Shield. The next thing I knew, I had a phone call from AHS saying they’ll go ahead and order the door.
I haven’t had to use AHS very much. But what I dislike is that they send these guys Accord Appliance. They sent Accord Appliance once before to fix something and they couldn’t get the job done. We did the cash-in-lieu option even though it was only a third of the project cost. I wasn't happy about that because it cost me way over the $400 that they gave me and I had another provider do it. My dishwasher stopped working on November 1st, and American Home Shield sent Steven’s Appliances out to take a look. I was told it needed a new pump, but there were delays in ordering the part, and it took quite a while for anything to move forward. Without a dishwasher, the things get piled up. My kitchen was a wreck
Once the part was installed, it still didn’t work, and I was told the dishwasher needed to be replaced. The replacement process took time. When the new dishwasher was delivered, it couldn’t be installed because a longer water line was needed. I was surprised they didn't already know that since somebody had been out here and had taken pictures. They left the dishwasher with me in my garage.
American Home Shield told me that a new company, Scott’s All-Pro Plumbing and Heating, would be coming out to install my dishwasher. But there were multiple delays, missed appointments, and poor communication. I found out that American Home Shield would not pay for the longer water line and the labor to install it. It was going to cost me $119, which surprised me, since they had always paid for everything else in the past. Still, I agreed to pay because I want my dishwasher installed.
Scott’s All-Pro Plumbing also told me that they would not move the dishwasher from my garage. There's just one little bitty step to come up on the porch and then into the house, but they would not move it from my garage to inside the house. So, we had to do that. It has been sitting in my hallway right outside my kitchen door. And now, I'm holding my breath whether or not they come today or something else comes up.
My husband and I have had American Home Shield coverage for at least ten years. Over that time, they’ve replaced three refrigerators, a stove, a microwave, and even a dishwasher before. This was the worst experience I’ve had, but this one had nothing to do with American Home Shield other than the $119 that they said they wouldn't pay. Overall, they’ve been good people and have stood behind what they said they would do.

My experience with American Home Shield has been excellent. The company's always been prompt and customer service is always great. We just had a problem with one of the vendors who came out when we had a problem with the leaking pipe in our laundry room.
A company called Ikmar Plumbing was assigned to it. I had them once before. They got assigned and they discovered the leak what they thought was the final part of the leak. And it turns out there was leaking from additional areas. They came back and we identified that quickly. That part was fine but there was some mold in the laundry room, on the floor and in the walls that needed to be remediated.
They immediately said they can hook me up with this other company, ABC Restoration. Our experience with that mold remediation company has been absolutely terrible. The issues were fixed and the flooring was replaced as was supposed to but the quality of their workmanship and the communication is what made it an absolute terrible experience.
I found out that Ikmar Plumbing and ABC Restoration are connected so we don't want Ikmar Plumbing ever come out to us again and we don't wanna deal with ABC Restoration ever again. They may have fixed the plumbing leak itself but when they hook us up with their partner company, ABC Restoration, their work was very unprofessional to a large extent that they don't stay in touch with you.
We still recommend and use American Home Shield because it's fantastic to have. It is simple to use. You pay $100 and they come out and they fix whatever it is. We've always had prompt service. They have courteous customer service, the contractors that are sent out are very knowledgeable and they get things done quickly.
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with us. We're thrilled to hear that submitting your claim was smooth and easy through our app, and that the initial service by the contractor was prompt and professional. We sincerely apologize for the past issue you encountered with the plumbing company and their partner during mold remediation. Calling American Home Shield was useless. I had a huge leak for several months and my water bill was through the roof. The plumber said they can’t fix it because it’s outside the house. I called the pool guys. They said it’s under the concrete and didn’t even look into it. I had to hire my own handyman who found it was a faulty valve there.
Making a claim takes five seconds. I can talk to customer service. That’s all handy. But the contractors are yahoos. They're all not interested to do it. They’re just interested to collect the deductibles and go home. When it gets complicated, they say they don’t do it. What's the purpose of having a home warranty if the contractors say it’s not their job to fix it? Either they don't know what they're doing or they just don't want to do it. They always push back if there's anything that needs to be done.
This is not the first time. I had trouble with my pool before, and the same people came, Serenity Pool, and the same thing happened. I had to bring someone else to fix it. I already complained, but they still send the same pool vendor. Their contractors are terrible, poor quality, mostly.

On the other hand, JJ's Repair Service came out and checked over the microwave, because the water leak went right through the wall where the microwave was. He checked it out did a very thorough job. I had unplugged everything. He went in and he did whatever it was. My microwave is working and I'm happy with that. JJ did a good job.

My claim with American Home Shield was a nightmare. That was the worst experience I've ever had with anything. I called them and opened a claim because of a leakage in my crawl space. Submitting the claim is easy. I select information through the application. Half of the time, there is no information that you can select, but normally when you can call contractors, you explain to them what is happening. Some of them might make up some rules and say, “Hey, you're only allowed to submit two or three defects.” That is not true and I know it.
A contractor came and stayed in my basement. He looked at the crawl space, which is more than accessible. My wife can stand there. But the contractor said it was not accessible. I told him he can just get there. But he said, “No, it's not accessible.” He took a picture and left. This was crazy. He just didn't want to work and that was obvious. After that, my claim was denied based on two reasons. The first being the crawl space was not accessible. The second was that there was a precondition. That was just made up because no one talked to me about that. Someone who made a decision about the claim denial made the decision first on a fake fact and the second on made up things.
I called American Home Shield and asked for a second opinion. There was a plumber who came to my house and he got inside the crawl space with no problem. He took pictures and submitted them to American Home Shield along with his explanation. American Home Shield said it was not a format that was appropriate. I had to call American Home Shield for almost a week and I told them I had an active leak and I needed them to fix it because it was a warranty that I bought and paid money for. That was the main idea of a warranty.
They told me that I had to contact their contractor and tell the contractor that they had to submit information in a specific way. I don't really understand why I'm in between all of that. These are contractors that American Home Shield selected. These are their rules for how the information has to be submitted. Why am I supposed to call and ask the contractor to submit information correctly? I should be the one being called by American Home Shield and being told, “Oh, I'm so sorry that it takes so long in our processes. What we're actually gonna do, we're actually gonna go ahead and approve your claim and go and find a decent contractor.”
Both of the contractors I had were so bad. I wouldn't want them to touch any of my plumbing if it's possible. But that's the reality of working with American Home Shield. I've been two weeks in with an active leakage and I still get no information. My experience has been miserable and unprofessional. I wish I could select another company but I’m stuck with American Home Shield for a year.

For my first claim, it took the contractor less than 24 hours. For the second time, it was a little bit more, but nothing terrible. It was a little bit frustrating. There was a broken copper pipe in the garage wall. The concern was water damage. We try to keep the water off, but there's essential things like shower and then toilets that need so. This happened the day before Thanksgiving. It was coming on the weekend. I knew I wasn't gonna get any service right away.
AHS sent us a technician out on the following Monday, four days later. The first technician said they were not authorized to touch it because it's connected to the shutoff valve for the fire sprinkler system. He had to send someone else. The second guy that came out was able to definitively fix the leak. I'm happy with the result.
However, the plumber made a big hole in the wall to repair the plumbing. He said they'll send someone else to fix the drywall. I reached out on the chat which was very slow. It takes 30 minutes before I actually reach an associate to actually help me. And the last time I reached out, he said they have to reach out to the second plumber to confirm the size of the hole in the drywall before they can send someone out. That was the last I heard. I gave the man the picture and the dimensions. He said they need to get the information from the plumber himself. It seems just a lot of hoops to jump through.
The experience with AHS was super slow. Slightly frustrating in how slow it is for issues to get addressed and to contact representatives. But ultimately, they do come around to fix things. There's no more leaks. But I'm still waiting for final resolution.
Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. We're pleased to hear your plumbing issue has been resolved and satisfied with the technician's performance. I don't have no problem with submitting a claim with American Home Shield. That's just a general process of getting the work done so there’s nothing hard about that.
I was disappointed because you're not allowed to choose the person who's gonna do your work. I think that's totally unfair. Then when you get approval for the work, there are certain things on the repair that you have to pay. It appears that American Home Shield only pay for the item that needs to be replaced, which in this case, the hot water heater.
There was an estimate for certain things that need to be done. I didn't want them to do that type of work but I couldn't get them to take that off. Because I did not want them to do that portion, American Home Shield said they have to give me a payout. I don't know what that is. So I ended up having to pay for labor that I didn't think I needed to pay. That's not right to me.
I think American Home Shield is too high. They make you pay $100 for every visit and it goes up every year. I don't understand the basis for it. They're okay but more expensive than it should be.

The reps that come out are normally awesome but I was very upset with the plumbing company that came out the last time. They came by while I was at work and my daughter had to call me. The gentleman was too interested making some money for another company. They sent me what it would cost to file on my homeowner's insurance. I thought that was very shady and crooked. I told him I don't do anything that's illegal. He said it wasn't illegal and I just had to file on our homeowners and they'll fix everything. I wondered why AHS would send out somebody like that. That bothered me because I did not know if they were telling the truth about what was wrong. I contacted another company and I got my house fixed.
I've had AHS for 25 years and they've changed a lot. 60% of the time, I come out of my pocket for what's going on. We still pay $100 when they come out, and we used to pay $50. Their price have gone up tremendously. They have no loyalty to their customers at all.

I've been a customer of theirs for eight years. I always had a positive experience with AHS, up until this claim with the dryer. They told me that they needed to order numerous parts for it and most likely wouldn't have all the parts in stock and would have to replace it. I did not hear anything back for a while. I called AHS and was told that my claim has been denied because the tech said my claim has been going on for eight months and that I should have called much sooner.
I called LT Appliance and they denied what AHS told me and basically said they were lying. The owner plus another person came out, looked at it and said, “Oh, yeah. They do this sometimes. Basically, the tech they're referring to works for them and sits in an office and reviews the claim.” I think the contractor was lying. I had the dryer worked on a year ago for some other issue. They told me the prior contractor put the wrong part and there was some other part they should have replaced which they didn't and that's what's caused the dryer to do this.
I told them I was just gonna cancel, and they said they won't charge me to have another company come out. Nobody showed up the next day, and I had to call again a couple of times. Another company came out and we had to order the parts, but it was gonna be a while. This went on for over a month. It started around November 1st, and it’s December 22nd now. My wife and I were having to go drive down the street to go to a laundromat. And that second company called, that guy was really nice. But I just got sick of waiting around, and so I went to the store and bought a new dryer.
And now, they have ordered parts but I had the old dryer hauled away. I'm just done with it. I'll call to see if AHS will do anything to give me any sort of compensation towards the new dryer. Because if they don't, I'm just gonna cancel with them.
We appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns, and we're sorry to hear about your recent drying malfunction experience. It's especially frustrating after years of reliable service. The delay in resolving the issue and the miscommunications involved are concerning, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused during this process, including the disruptions to you and your wife's routine.

I’m happy with American Home Shield so far. It’s been a great asset to have. Every claim I filed, they've been able to fix. I had two back-to-back claims, and the most recent one was my kitchen sink. I was having no hot water pressure, but cold is fine. When I turned it over to the hot, there was a trickle. So, I just filed a claim, and they sent a guy out. He basically figured out the line was clogged with soot and dirt. So, he replaced the line and fixed the problem.
The technician was an older gentleman, but he was talkative and just, overall, a nice guy. And he talked a little bit about what the issue was and how to fix it on your own, in a sense, if it was to happen again. He was in and out.
They also fixed our washer, but it took about six months from when I filed the claim for it to actually get fixed. It was a scheduling issue because I work long hours. And the part took four or five months to show up.
We're thrilled to hear that you had a positive experience with your recent claim process, and that it was straightforward and efficient for your clogged hot water line. It's great to know our contractor impressed you with both their service and useful maintenance tips. We appreciate your feedback on the earlier delay with your washer repair, and your understanding of those challenging circumstances is appreciated. We're constantly evolving to ensure outstanding customer service and value for all repair needs. If there's anything further we can assist you with, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

I put the claim in on a Saturday and they got out on Monday or Tuesday. So far since the repair, it's okay.

On the whole, it's been positive with American Home Shield. Sometimes I have to wait extra to get someone to come out and get the things resolved, but the flip side is that I’m paying the deductible. It's a trade-off I'm willing to make. The only time I've spoken with AHS in person was to talk to them about the time when my payment drops changed, and that is entirely dependent on whether I'm getting someone at the call center from the United States or someone who is speaking English as a second language. There's often a communication barrier when you try to talk to somebody who grew up speaking something other than English.
The blower motor had to be replaced. I reached out through their website. It was very easy to do, but it’s kinda weird. When you do the website, they'll give you an email right away and say so and so will contact you within 24 hours and set up an appointment. Sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't. Sometimes, I have to call whoever and schedule an appointment and they schedule it usually a week out. They come, do the thing, and then they're like, “This is what needs to happen. We'll submit it to AHS.”
It usually takes a day or two for approval, then whatever part comes in and then another week to reschedule. That's how it normally goes. This time, they said I’ll hear from Jackson Mechanical in 24 hours but I didn't hear from them. Within two days, somebody was knocking on the door. AHS had scheduled the appointment directly with Jackson Mechanical without letting me know, and they showed up at the house and freaked my wife out.
The phone number of Jackson Mechanical AHS gave to me was incorrect. I called Jackson Mechanical about someone that was at the house and my wife wasn't letting in. She was scared and we straightened it out. They sent someone out the next day. They were very accommodating and professional. We took care of it directly with them.
Each of the times with AHS, something has changed in their scheduling or communication. Both that time and then when it was time for them to come out and put in the parts, they went ahead and just scheduled stuff. I also got a message from AHS after Jackson Mechanical had completed the repair. They said, “We're gonna schedule someone to come out there.”
Something's gone wacky in there, and I don't know if it's their website, their call center, or whatever. Jackson Mechanical was great. They did an excellent job with a quick turnaround. They were efficient and communicated well. I would use them personally myself if I weren't an AHS customer.
I would recommend AHS to people. The only issue that I've had is trying to get my bill to come earlier in the month. Every year, when the contract resets, it just goes back. It's just an ongoing issue. If you have plenty of money and you want your stuff done immediately, then I would just say pay for it yourself. My experience with AHS is entirely dependent on the local contractors they have, and I've just been lucky. Up here in North Georgia, we've had generally good contractors and positive experiences. When I lived outside of Atlanta before, the contractors were scummy.
Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent experience with American Home Shield. We're glad to hear that utilizing our website for making the initial connection was easy and effective. We apologize for any confusion caused during the unexpected visit due to the miscommunication with our contracting partner, Jackson Mechanical. We are pleased to know that once there, they delivered the quality service we strive for and quickly addressed your needs. Your feedback about our scheduling and communication is invaluable, and we are continuously working to enhance these areas to avoid such situations in the future.

I had American Home Shield fix my furnace. The first contractor told me I was gonna have to come out of pocket about $500 for him to fix it. I asked for a second opinion, so American Home Shield sent Air Doc Heating and Air. The tech said the motherboard was working faulty. He replaced it without me having to come out of pocket.
Honestly, I don't really like American Home Shield. Their fees went up so much, and I was not aware of that. They just keep trying to get money out of me. My furnace has broken three times already and they just keep coming out and not really fixing the problem. They'll make my heat work again, but nobody's fixing the problem that initially started it. I'm not understanding why I can't get it fixed completely. I've let American Home Shield know that, but I still have to keep paying every time they come out.

My tenant’s oven would not ignite. I filed a claim with American Home Shield online and a contractor came out in two days. He was there for under two hours. I've never had an issue with American Home Shield. I had a previous rental where I had them. That was back in the timeframe 2010 to 2020. This time, I signed up with them in January.
For the most part, American Home Shield is great. But be prepared if they pick a service rep that drags their feet, does not show up on time, and does not order the part. There's nothing you can do about it. It’s not like you can call another contractor. We had a previous appliance go out and it took over a month for the claim to be dealt with. I never received a phone call to give my opinion on that repair.

I reported a water leak over 10 days ago. After five days and multiple follow-up calls, a contractor finally showed up—not to fix the problem, but only to take pictures so the repair could be “approved.” It has now been another five days, and nothing has been done. In fact, the leak is worse than before. This is not an isolated incident. We had a similar experience when we requested A/C repairs. Somehow, they consistently manage to send the least reliable contractors in the area.
At this point, I’m done. If the rating system allowed it, I would give a negative rating. After years of reviewing businesses, this is the first time I’ve ever rated a company below zero stars overall. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in the coming days. Whatever you do, do not waste your money on this warranty.

My dryer wouldn't work at all and my washer was leaking due to a rust part on the top where you put the Clorox. AG Appliance Repair fixed the dryer but they told me there was nothing wrong with the washer. It was leaking because of wear and tear, and I get it. But maybe we could replace a little piece or just replace the whole thing.
I got full coverage on American Home Shield. I could replace anything up to $7,000 worth of new appliances. I told AG to let American Home Shield know that these guys could get tossed and I'll replace my units, and they wouldn't. To me, it was bogus. I could go in there and say the electronic device is broken and American Home Shield would replace the entire device. I tried to get a different company to come out from American Home Shield but they wouldn't. The service was good because my dryer got fixed, but my washer didn't. If I need to get a new washer, then I need to get a new dryer. They wouldn't understand that.
AG and American Home Shield didn't communicate very well. Everything was done through me. I called both companies several times explaining to them. I asked how much it would cost to fix my dryer and my washer, and I never saw an invoice. Was it even beneficial for anyone to come out? Why don't they just replace my units? That could be polished up on their end--how fast they communicate with each other and how fast they update that communication on their application for the user. The last lady that spoke with me took her time and explained to me. She was awesome. Everyone else was short and just trying to get paid.

As far as making contact with American Home Shield and having the work performed, everything was simple. The warranty is worth it. It's already paid for itself for me. But they should find better contractors.
I had a claim submitted for my HVAC system, where Myers Comfort Specialists of Montgomery came out. My unit was not cooling properly. From it not cooling, they would have to come back and make repairs, and they took care of those repairs. The unit is performing well at the moment. I haven't had any issues.
Myers is okay, but they're not the best. Their speed wasn't that great. It didn't seem like they had enough associates to get the work done. There's probably other contractors out there that could provide better work. But all in all, they did exactly what they're supposed to.

I've had American Home Shield for more than 10 years. And AHS originally were an excellent deal. And now, I'm concerned they're not worth the money. I'm considering canceling because the cost keeps going up. The cost is more than double what I originally started paying.
The contractor came out the first time, and he stayed for about an hour. I had to leave. I left him with my roommate. And he left and said he couldn't find anything wrong. But I called American Home Shield that night because there was still a problem. They had to wait until they got a report from the technician. I called on the Friday and had to wait until Tuesday to hear back. I didn't hear back from American Home Shield.
A week later, I went online and it says the case was closed. And I called and I said, “I don't know why you closed the case when I told you it wasn't fixed and he left.” I was disappointed. They reopened the case ‘cause it was within the range to reopen it. I wanted a different company because I didn't trust them anymore. They said they have to keep it with the same contractor, but will send a senior tech. They sent the same guy.
He found the problem and replaced parts. I'm out of the country now. I assume it's working correctly now. I know he did replace the parts and tested it about a week and a half later. It was the least positive American Home Shield experience I've had.

The furnace is in an odd spot in a cellar, and the first person who came out declined and was rude. So I called American Home Shield back and they said they were going to send somebody else. I was told the technician could come out the next day, but I had to work. So I had to make it two days after that.
I love Frontline Heating and Cooling’s service. The technician went in there, diagnosed the furnace and said I needed a new one. So he put in the order. But when he gave it to American Home Shield, they couldn't do it because it was Friday and had to wait till Monday. When Monday came, I had to wait till Tuesday to talk to somebody. When I was told they ordered the piece, it took another week and I had to pay around $3,500.
I was initially told I would pay nothing, just the $125 to come out. And then if they can't fix it, they will replace it. Once it got down for them to come out, I got to pay $3,500 because I want to upgrade. I could never talk to anybody to explain to me what the upgrade was, and they were giving me different answers. It was cold outside. My tenants were paying their rents on time and so I had no other choice. It took almost three weeks just to get the furnace because they were taking me around in circles.

The appliance company that American Home Shield sent to was not an honest company at all. They were supposed to fix our microwave. He came out, took a look, told us the problem and said he has the part in his car. He came back and fixed it. He tested before he left and it was working. Fast-forward a couple hours. We went to try to warm some food up. As soon as we put the food in and press start, it did not work so I texted this company.
I assume that this company is owned by one person and he's the only person that does all the service calls. When we scheduled the initial appointment we texted back and forth.
About an hour after that I went ahead and put in another service request through American Home Shield’s website. He must have gotten notified that there was still an issue and he reached out to me immediately.
He said he was going to put a report that it will be for replacement. Since it was a Saturday I said I will deal with AHS on Monday. When I called they said they were waiting on the report from HKC company. I gave it another business day. On Tuesday, I contacted American Home Shield. They said they are going to take a look at the report and will let you know what the reimbursement rate so I can go and buy a new microwave.
They called me and they said that based on what was on the report, they are not going to cover this microwave. The report from the appliance company said that we purposely broke this microwave and was not normal wear and tear. It was due to something that we did.
It was going to be Thanksgiving and we had company coming over. I texted the tech and he never responded to me. I ended up speaking to a supervisor at American Home Shield. They said that we could request another person come out but it would be another service charge because we had already paid a $125 service charge. Why would I pay another $125? I may as well take that $250 and buy me a new microwave on my own and that's exactly what we did.
The reason why I did not move forward with the second opinion aside from another service charge was that there was no guarantee that that second opinion person could come before Thursday. I told them to send me my $125 back.
I researched about the company and aparently this company does this often. There's a lot of comments about negative things that they've done. I would tell people about this experience and not recommend them.

The online service is also very quick. I usually submit my claims online but then someone does contact me to make sure things are going well on schedule and that the contractors reach out. AHS is on it and I really appreciate that as well. I would recommend them a 10 out of 10.

I've had American Home Shield for 17 years since I bought my home. Before, I dealt with people and it was always actually a good experience. Now, when I had my plumbing issue, I'm no longer able to speak to someone. It's just through the internet, which is great. I get service without actually speaking to anybody until the contractor calls me and their customer service is great. They fixed my issue in a timely manner.
However, they've gradually changed. In the beginning, they covered more stuff. And as time went on, we were responsible for more out-of-pocket costs. That is just with every company because people are trying to make money. But overall, I would advise people to take their service.

American Home Shield contractors handle it well, but you pretty much know nothing's really gonna ever be replaced. I've been very blessed not to have something be completely non-repairable yet, but it does happen.
For what service I've had with them, I've been happy with the people that come. If I have any complaint, it would be the slow turnaround time. I called on a Wednesday, and they did not arrive until Monday. So I had no refrigerator. I was disappointed that they couldn't get someone to come out sooner. American Home Shield is very expensive, but it gives me peace of mind to know that, if the problem can be fixed, they can do that.

We have been with AHS for 20 years, the whole time we've been in this house. We've never had a problem. We reach out to them online and they find us a vendor. Once or twice, if that vendor didn't respond or wasn't able to do it, I call them and they find a new one. We had a couple of dual light switches at the other end of the house. They weren't working. We had to put them in the middle, so the contractor went around and replaced the actual switches.
We've recommended AHS several times and we will continue to share the same recommendation. However, there is that initial challenge of putting out the $100 upfront. But even the others that aren't as high as $100, I'm not sure of the quality of service. We pay for what we know. I do know people who pay less than that, who are still at the $75. We were at the $75 until maybe two years ago and we didn't know that the price had risen. It just comes on the new contract. That may be one of the areas to change, because we didn't have the opportunity to “shop around” before the new contract. For example, if our contract ends in May and it's in June, it goes up to $125, we would like to know that in advance of the renewal that happens.

I had an electrical issue with my dryer that wouldn’t start at all. The drum also made a very loud noise. The belt had to be replaced. American Home Shield screwed it up at first, thinking it was an HVAC issue. They were about to send an HVAC guy. They called and I told them they were wrong, so they fixed that. The tech that came out took the dryer apart, showed me the part, and told me that he might have it in his truck. It turned out he didn’t, so he had to order it. He came back a week later and fixed it.
American Home Shield has fixed a few things for me already. It’s nice to know my appliances will be covered if something happens. But it often seems like they’re attempting to save money by fixing the appliance when they could actually save a lot of money if they just replace the appliance. I had a refrigerator that was worked on. A company came out no less than 10 times to try to fix it. I assume that probably cost them more than giving us a new refrigerator. But for us, it may be financially worth it. I've told my girlfriend to look into getting American Home Shield or some other company to cover her appliances.

The tech, Damien, came, took the back piece off and looked at that. Then last Wednesday, he said that he changed the water sensor as far as how it fills up. That’s all he did because he can’t seem to figure out what’s wrong with it. Now, since he put the sensor in, it’s less water. Then he sent us the manual to read but it doesn’t make sense. Before he left, he told me that if it happens again to call American Home Shield so they can send another company out.
I called AHS yesterday and somebody was supposed to call me back. The owner checked with me yesterday evening and he said no one called him back. I spoke to Ms. Yvonne first and she put me on hold, called over and spoke with the tech. He said he was going to send a report over. He told her that the manufacturer said that the machine don’t give out a lot of water. That’s not true because when we first got the machine, we never had a problem with it. So, American Home Shield (AHS) was contacted by me in November about my dryer not working. The company they sent to my home, Shinmen Worldwide, sent a technician to come and fix it. He came and “fixed” it, only for it to stop working again 2 days later. I called Shinmen again and reported it to them. They sent the same guy out a few weeks later to “fix” it but once again after a couple days it stopped working again. I’m not necessarily blaming the technician because he mentioned afterward that I may need to get my dryer duct vents cleaned out for it to work and he’d report it to AHS. Now I call AHS and let them know what’s going on. So when I call them they say I have to pay out of my own pocket to get the dryer ducts cleaned and this is AFTER they already took my $130 or so service fee and with me also paying them $50-$60 each month.
I asked the customer service lady from AHS how I could have known that this wasn’t something they cover to which she basically replies that there is no way to know what the issue is without sending a technician (which I understand). But knowing that the average customer doesn’t know what to look for to diagnose their own appliances, there isn’t any way I would have thought to call someone to check my vent ducts especially when I have what I thought was a home warranty that I’ve been paying into for years.
Now she was a respectful lady the whole time but my anger and frustration is the fact that I already paid them to have it fixed but now they say I have to pay out of my own pocket to continue trying to fix it and there is no way to get my service fee back even the job hasn’t been completed and it’s on me to get it fixed now. I feel disrespected and taken advantage of by American Home Shield because they got what they wanted (my money) but they didn’t complete their job or even have compassion enough to say, "We’ll cover the complete process of your dryer getting fixed".

My washing machine has pretty much been broken for most of the year. I've gone through a couple of phases of trying to schedule with American Home Shield and getting someone to fix it. Technicians needed to change the belt on my washing machine and also figure out why it kept stalling. This claim is still being completed. The technicians are supposed to come on Monday. If things don't go well, I'm really gonna push to try to get a new machine because I'm paying my monthly fees to American Home Shield and I'm paying for their service technicians to come out and check on the unit. But for something that has happened a couple of times this year, I'm wondering at what point the warranty company makes a decision to say, “Let's pivot, and maybe she just needs a completely new machine.”
It has just drawn out the process. Although I've been paying my monthly fees on my warranty, which means that I should have working appliances, my washing machine has either been unreliable or just not in use at all for a good chunk of the year. I've had to depend on laundromats to wash my clothes in spite of the fact that I'm still paying monthly fees to American Home Shield. There is a lot of “Oh, we can't do that. That would be the technician that does that.” I ask the technician about something and they deflect to the warranty company. A lot of times, it feels like I'm being thrown back and forth between the two. Maybe within their policies, there is something that they are both trying not to make a call on to say it’s best if I receive a new machine.
Another thing is that American Home Shield’s prices keep going up every year. They have sale prices for new people coming into the company. But if you've been with the company for a while, it's like, “Your price is your price,” even though you can see online, “We have a deal,” and they're giving new people coming in a lower rate.

When I would use my dishwasher, it was backing up my water. I knew that my garbage disposal wasn't working. So, I called and spoke to one of the representatives so they could set the claim up for me, because there were a few things going on. I also put an order for a leaking faucet.
I explained to the plumber what happens with the dishwasher first. He noticed what the problem was right away. He tested it out and made sure to see if the garbage disposal wasn't working. He tried to undo it, and said it was stuck. So, he changed my garbage disposal and my faucet, because when I would put the handle on hot and people close it, it would automatically open up by itself, and then the water would just drip. As soon as he left, I ran my dishwasher to make sure everything was fine, and everything went through after that.
I also had an order around the same time with my air conditioning unit. I had called it in around October, and it finally got solved in December, and it was because of my calling and pushing. Nobody would reach out to me with any information. American Home Shield would say they were waiting for the service person’s quote, and the person would say he submitted it in. I called back and forth until the technician called me and said my claim was only partially approved. If I wanted a new unit, it was all on me, which I can’t afford. I only wanted what needed to be fixed and then go from there.
When I called American Home Shield, they told me my claim was denied. I also did not appreciate that the person I talked to was rude. When I asked to speak to a supervisor so that they could explain it to me better, he repeatedly kept saying, “Regardless if you speak to a supervisor, once we make a decision, we are not going back on that.” It took them a month and a half to finally say I wasn’t approved and when I asked to get a second opinion, the person said it's been too long from the first technician that came out. But that's the problem since they never contacted me nor gave me an answer until literally the last couple of days ago.
I would have loved a second opinion because I wasn't too fond of the first technician. He was like, “Oh, this is too much work.” It's because of the access. The way for them to get in, they don't cover it, which I said I will cover that part. I was told they needed to speak to some team first so they could confirm, but it just took so long with everything. Now they told me I ran out of time when they never contacted me. I was told I have the cashout option for $970 for the part that they were going to fix. It was smelling like mildew in my house because it was wetting the ground. At that point, it was all I have since they took almost three months to settle this. That, to me, is ridiculous. I just received the check about a week ago.
I have been with American Home Shield with this house for going on 20 years. Prior to this house, I had another house with them for about eight years. So, I'm close to 30 years with them, and to have gotten through that and have to fight and be the aggressor on this, I thought of cancelling. But because they made it right, then I'm still around. If they would have kept saying that it was denied and they weren't going to do anything about it, then I wouldn't have American Home Shield.

They're very upfront. If there's a change in scheduling, they will alert you. They let you know who's coming and their name. I usually get a good quality picture so you can see who it is, which is very nice. 'Cause I like to know that. Especially if I can't be here and my parents would be here, then they know who to expect. I've been very appreciative and pleased with their work.
American Home Shield is adequate and meets expectations, but sometimes slow to respond. I had two claims. I had one in my house and one at my mother-in-law's house, and both of them were plumbing issues.
The tech was great. What we had was a washer drain that was stopped up in the laundry room and couldn't get it unstopped. He ran the Roto-Rooter through it and couldn't get it through. And this is another thing that bothers me -- American Home Shield does not pay for a plumber to put a camera in there and look at it. So, I'm not very pleased about that.
I had to pay $250 to get him to be able to put a camera in there and find out what was going on and actually locate the problem under the slab. I ended up paying $325, which would probably have been the whole total charge for him to come out and do what he did. He did a great job. I was very pleased with him.
I'm not very pleased with American Home Shiel's coverage. Seems like it's always something that they don't do right. They don't cover for any repairs in the slab, which I can understand that. But overall, the people that came out and did the work were great.
I submitted the claim over the phone. It's kind of a pain in the ass because they don't understand what you're saying. American Home Shield needs to have customer service in the United States. We always end up talking to somebody overseas and there's always a language barrier. And they're just talking from a script, so they really don't know what they're doing. Finally, when the tech called me, I had to explain to him what the real problem was.
I'll recommend them to a friend 'cause they're the best that's out there. They're not perfect, but they're the best. The techs are always great. Customer service, telephone service is horrible.

The ice machine in my refrigerator did not work and Paul Appliance Service replaced the entire circuit control board. The control board worked and the unit was making ice again. However, the refrigerator could not go below 51 degrees. Paul Appliance Service came out again and decided it needed some kind of circulatory fan. They replaced that. Once they did, the ice maker quit working again.
The contractor did what he could do. But how many times do technicians have to come and fail to repair a unit before American Home Shield is prepared to replace it? Paul Appliance Service could not give me an answer on that. They were only contracted to repair and not replace. So far, I have been charged $200. Paul Appliance Service has been out here three times. They're coming out again on Tuesday this week. Maybe this time the refrigerator will continue to work as it should. If not, then there's really not much I can do except pay a third contractor to put the refrigerator that does not work out in the garage and bring my old refrigerator, which does not have a computer chip in it, and put it in my kitchen so it will be my primary refrigerator.
It was easy to file a claim with American Home Shield, but I'm not satisfied. All I can do is tell them that the refrigerator is still not working. I am disappointed that I can only communicate with them online. I would love to have a human being who represents them ask me what they could do better.

American Home Shield has a 24 hours assignment and probably a guy on site within 48. They use a couple of different contractors but Breakthrough Pools is my fave. They’re a great company and I've always been happy to see them on the dispatch. Their guy does excellent work, is very informative, and tremendously a good communicator. They recently had to replace a cleaner pump which was not covered under the warranty because there had been an electrical fault and the pump burned out. So AHS did not contribute a penny.
We’ve been with AHS for over 25 years. Customer service has isolated themselves as they’ve been seeded over to chat into the website. Their website is well-organized so I can usually make the request I need to. The service technicians that they hire are the same. But the portion that I pay for each visit has climbed by 100% in the last 10 years which is well ahead of inflation. So, I wish that there was an ability to see who the available contractors were for a call and choose among the ones that I have experience with. It would certainly give an element of familiarity to me as a long-term customer who's used many of their contractors.

I've done three claims between my two properties in the last 12 months, and two of the claims went perfectly fine. This last claim was the one that gave me problems, where they're still quoting stuff from the fine print saying that they won't cover. They couldn't give me a proper explanation.
On my rental property, there was an issue. The heating was not coming on. I filed a claim for the service, and they brought a technician in and they said it was a controller that shorted out. They had to replace that, but they say it couldn't be part of my claim, that they wouldn't repair it and that I had to do it on my own.
American Home Shield is a good product to have to protect the home but you really need to know all the bells and whistles and all the nuts and bolts about the policy because I don't want to pay the $125 service fee for somebody to come out and just tell me it's not covered.

The biggest problem I have is that AHS doesn't do things efficiently. I had a leaking toilet and it took three days to get a plumber out. They sent the same plumber multiple times and they still didn't fix the issue. Having a toilet leaking all over the floor is not acceptable for multiple days as it causes all kinds of additional damage that they don't repair. So I ended up having to go out of pocket to hire a different plumber who finally fixed the issue. It ruined my cabinets that were exposed to water, but AHS is not going to pay to fix my cabinets because my toilet leaked.
The contractor for the garage door had to keep rescheduling. It took a month, which it shouldn't have. Any tenant would have been losing their mind over not being able to use the garage and park their cars inside, and then I would just have to eat it as a landlord.
I had a lot of claims in my North Carolina house this year. It's not clear what is and isn't covered when you buy the policy, and then, mysteriously, nothing's covered when you try to get it fixed or very few things are actually covered. So I feel like AHS does deceptive marketing.
And usually, the people I talk to on the phone don't speak English as a first language. They won't understand exactly what it is I'm trying to describe to them. I'm not a tradesperson and I don't know the exact verbiage I need to be using. So I just describe it as best I can and sometimes they understand and sometimes they don't. I try really hard to not be a ** person, but if your customer base primarily speaks English and is expecting you to be able to do business with you in English, the people you hire need to be able to understand the nuances of the English language.

Axis Appliance Repair was really good. I wasn’t there, but they gave me an appointment immediately and fixed the dishwasher in a short amount of time. My daughter said the repair guy had it going less than 10 minutes. We’re pleased in that regard.
I also had an issue with my hot water heater. It went out on a Thursday and I sent a service request. They assigned it to another company but the contractor didn't have any availability until Tuesday as a walk-in and I wasn't happy with that. I called AHS back and asked if they could reassign my claim to somebody else. They wouldn't, and they were talking over me and wasn't listening to me. I got frustrated to the point where I thought that I need to start looking for another home warranty company because four days wasn’t acceptable. I also read their reviews and I feel there's something better.
With AHS, I can go ahead and schedule service online without anybody there. But it's been hit and miss with them. With the last experience I had, they sent somebody out immediately and it was great. Time before that, not so great. This time, not so great. But they tried to right their wrong and appease me after I was bothered by them not sending anybody else out.

American Home Shield is way better than my last one. The website is easy and the response time with them is good. The sink wasn’t draining right before Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, I had somebody assigned. The guy did a good job. He didn’t try to nickel-and-dime me. He went and got a bigger tool. He even did some extra stuff for free that was out of the scope. He didn't have to do that.
Outside of the regular consumer, their price is too high. I hope they can have some type of 911 emergency type system or priority like when it’s 10 degrees outside and my heat is not working. They also have a free virtual thing that I can use. Other than that, the field of who they can send is good. They are great and I have no complaints.

I stayed on the phone for forever twice. When American Home Shield called me again, I said I want Zen Appliances as I saw on Yelp that the other company had bad grades and they were talking about Zen. So, I got them but it took awhile because they’re really busy.
Aiden from Zen came and did the work with the part they were given. But I noticed when Aidan was here that the color of the one from the bottom tray and the one from the top tray were different, and felt flimsy. A few weeks later, it was broken. I was doing the exact same load on the machine. It took forever for them to come because they were waiting for the part.
Then, Aiden showed me that at that time, he was given the parts from the manufacturer. I saw that the bag from the parts were from Whirlpool. The color was the same, and it felt hard on the texture when I touched them. It wasn't flimsy like the other ones. He installed it and it's working. I don't think it's gonna break because it feels strong. I was pretty happy with Zen.One thing good that happened while we were in the other house was when we had a problem with the toilet. We were given the choice to use the same toilet or if we wanna upgrade. I decided to upgrade which was given. Another time was when we were putting the central heat because we had a swamp cooler, and it was giving problems. They gave us a chance to replace it for something comparable or get the money so we can put something else. We got money to upgrade the system and had no problem.
The other time was with the stove where the first person that went said the stove was full of grease. I questioned how they saw grease if everything was closed. We have those new stoves where there's no place for the oil to go. I was so mad we got a second opinion. We replaced the ignition, got the parts, and it was done. So, I like that American Home Shield has the opportunity for a second opinion. The problem was resolved to my satisfaction and I was happy with it.
However, I don't have that many choices over here. It would have to be for small things that you have to go in and dissect each company to see the differences. Sometimes, consumers don't have time for that. I'm wasting more time with a company to save just a little money between two or three companies. So, I'm just gonna stay with the same one and deal with whatever happens.
Warm regards,
Marc

Accord Appliance has been out for the last four months on various occasions to repair a refrigerator that never got repaired. I repeatedly asked that if they’re not fixing the problem, aren't they supposed to replace it? I guess that's not the case because I'm not getting it repaired or replaced. After the last visit, I called back to let them know that nothing's being done and asked where we’d go from here. I know that there's a lot of other options which I’m considering because the contractor hasn't even called me back since they came the last time.
The people who came were nice and courteous though. They were trying to help and were trying to do their job. One time, the electric went out right before they got here, and they still tried to put it all in order so that when the electric came, it would start working. It didn't work though, but I liked their effort.
I’ve been with American Home Shield for years and that's another issue I made. The first time I ever had them was when I was in Hawthorne. And I don't know why I keep going back with them because this isn't the first time this has happened.
When I was at our home in Mission Hills, we had a similar issue. Something was broken and we could smell the sewer. Yet, they didn’t come out and nothing was being done. I had to get them refer somebody and I just called them on my own. AHS canceled the order and I worked with somebody else. They came out and it turned out to be something on a gasket that holds the pipes together. Somehow, somebody stepped on it and pushed it off the track so it was leaking out. It ended up costing me close to $400 to have it done.

When I signed up for American Home Shield, my contract said it's a $125 charge to have someone come out. Well, they charged me $135. I don't understand that. So I asked them why and she said, "Well, you have to call your state representative." State representative for what? This had never happened before and I've never heard of such thing.
She was telling me it's a $10 charge in Texas. That didn't make sense. I have friends with American Home Shield and they didn't have to pay an extra $10. I asked when this started and she said, "It's been like that." Now it's getting to the point where I'm afraid to even call a service ‘cause I might be charged $135.

American Home Shield has been great and I'm happy with the service. We've had them since I purchased my home in 2009. Recently, they sent out a notice by email about a checkup on HVAC system. With the winter approaching, I thought it was a great idea and so I took advantage of it.
The contractor that came did great and was very professional. However, it wasn't apparent in the process that if you've got multiple units, that each unit need to be scheduled independently. It was the service guy who said that. He could have checked both of them at the same time on the one trip. There wasn't really anything apparent in the website to delineate this info. All it would maybe take is just a little note at the bottom when submitting the request to say, if you've got multiple units, submit a second one.

When you file a claim with American Home Shield, they put it in instantly. The only thing I would like is if they can change their policy and do a la carte items, because a lot of stuff on the policy, I don’t use. AHS needs to lower their prices. I've been doing this for 25-30 years, and I have several accounts with them. They don't cover a lot of stuff that I needed to be covered. Only thing I really use them for is small stuff. I usually use them for the HVAC and maybe a little bit electrical issues, and that's about it. Every year, they try to go up. They have to realize there's a lot of other companies out there. If I only want HVAC system or electrical, I can pick and choose. What they're doing is selling a whole package, and most of the stuff you don't need.
They say they can do the roof, and when I asked to get an estimate to see patchwork I need to be done, they only gave me $1,500. $1,500 isn’t nothing. You can't get anybody to repair a roof for that. The guy came in and said to do the whole roof is $20,000. I can't use AHS for that. They're gonna charge me the $125 just to get the guy out here to tell me it's $20,000. I’m not doing that anymore. They get me once, I learn.
They also need to improve on vendors’ qualifications and customer service. They have 48 hours to answer you. That's two days before I even get somebody to call me back and that’s ridiculous. I have the issue today. It depends on who they send to the house, because their contractors are not the same. They give different services and quality of service.
Last summer, the HVAC went out. My tenant had people and kids in the house, and it was over 100 degrees. Usually, when I put an order in, they give me the number. I always call them up as soon as I put the order in, and they give me a confirmation number. But the guy didn't even call us back. It was three days before he even got out there. When he did, he didn't even come into the house. He just went to the back, looked at the furnace, and left. He wasn't even here for five minutes. How can he tell what's wrong?
That's when he came back, looked again, and said it was something else. That's why I was pissed. I called back and complained, “I don't want these people back on my property. He’s not doing anything. Get another contractor. You have more than one contractor in your portfolio.” Then the guy was complaining I didn't even give him a chance to fix it. He has been there twice.
A socket needed to be replaced and this time was fine. The guy was prompt. He called me, I set it up, and he was out there the next day and fixed it. The whole second floor, the lights went out, so I thought it was something more than what it was. He says, “No, it was just that one socket.” Once he replaced that, he said the lights were fine. Overall, AHS is attentive to the issue. If next year, they’re raising my bill and giving me the same services, I'm gonna look somewhere else. But right now, they gave me a good deal. They get on the phone and try to help you and resolve the issue, so I'll give them that credit.
Warm regards,
Marc

I had a claim for my dishwasher. The guy came out and looked at it. When he saw the codes coming up, he said it needed a circuit board, which they can't get anymore. I told him it was 16 years old so they replaced it. Within an hour after he submitted that it wasn't repairable, they sent me a link and the link gave me several choices to pick from. I picked the one I wanted and they delivered it.
American Home Shield is better. Having them gives peace of mind that when something goes out, I can call and they will get somebody to take care of it. I had a different one before them and I would not recommend that company to anybody.

AHS is very easy to work with. I had planned on canceling and going with someone else, but I've decided to stay with them. I've had a lot of stuff fail on me at one time. The heating and air gentleman was fine. He was great and I haven't had any issues at all since he's been here.
My recent claim was for a plumber that put in a double spigot underneath my kitchen sink–one to turn off my dishwasher, the hot water to it, and the other to turn off the hot water to my kitchen sink. He was really nice and helpful and made sure everything was working fine before he left. He had to turn the water off out by the street because the spigot in the house that turns the water off in the house is broken and he couldn't get to it. He had to go outside underneath the leaves and the snow to find the place to turn the water off outside. He did a wonderful job.
However there was a miscommunication as I talked to two different people. They were giving me a coupon for a free visit from someone to come out and look at an appliance if I needed it within 30 days of canceling my policy, which I did. I needed someone to come out and check my furnace. Then the other day, American Home Shield took $125 out of my checking account so I called them and they said that I couldn't use the coupon at that time because it was not submitted to a supervisor before the furnace guy came out. That was not true. I talked to the second lady that I spoke with and she put me on hold for quite some time and attached a coupon to my order, and took it to a supervisor to have it approved. She told me everything would be fine.
I was aggravated at that point, but my husband called. We were assured that we had a coupon for a free visit. No one ever called, showed up, or made the appointment when my husband called. I was in the hospital at the time so nothing was ever done at that point. I called when I got home from the hospital that next Monday, and that's when the girl told me that the coupon had been sent over to a supervisor and had been signed off, and that my furnace guy would be free.
I had the money taken out of my account. I called them and they said that it was not pre-approved which is why I had to pay for it. They went on and gave me another free coupon for another visit should I need one. It turned out my dryer has gone out that day so I had to call them about my dryer and also my ice maker. For the most part, I have no issues at all with American Home Shield except for the coupon for the furnace guy.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We're delighted to hear about the excellent work completed under your kitchen sink and your satisfaction with our contractors. While we apologize for the initial confusion regarding your furnace service visit coupon, we're glad it was timely resolved to your satisfaction. Your recommendation and kind words about our responsive service and problem resolution are highly appreciated. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need further assistance, and thank you once again for choosing American Home Shield.

We don't get the service quickly as possible. There was something wrong with the water heater so we started the claim. It took four days for us to get the service guy come in and by the time that the repair was done, we were without hot water for two days, during the cold season.
First time we realized that the water was overflowing, the garage was getting wet. We tried to close a tap to stop water from coming in but then we realized that it's the water that's coming inside the house. We couldn't find a tap to close it. The day that we realized that water was leaking, we had hot water. The next day, we realized that the water temperature was not that good so we thought something was wrong with the boiler. The guy who came out was really good. I had to explain to him what happened. He asked me to open a hot water tap at home and he realized that there's no hot water. Over half an hour, he found the issue then he actually left the broken piece for us to know.
Previously, I got stuck with a broken garage door inside the house, and I couldn't take the car out for more than five days because we couldn't get the service from Ace until five days after. I had to use Uber every single place I went. Because my husband was not at home, I couldn't manually open the door. I was not strong enough.
Then when the guy came in, he said one spring was broken. For the repair to be perfect, we had to put both springs. Otherwise, the door was not going to get balanced. But American Home Shield was not paying for that. They would only ask us to replace the broken one. So you have to pay for the good one. That's $125, and then to balance the door, another $125. So it's $250 extra.
My microwave broke two times. We couldn't close the door and the light was on so we got the service. They replaced the spring and I paid $125 for that visit. Then in two months, the door broke again. The person came and replaced the spring again. That's $125 again. That's $250. I could have used that $250 plus another $50 and buy a new microwave. So for some services like that, it's not even worth it.
I'm wondering, when they come back, at least evaluate the whole situation. This is an old thing. The microwave came with the house and it's now 12 years old. We might as well put a new microwave. I'm not asking American Home Shield to come to put a new AC unit. But sometimes is it worth it to pay $125 to get a spring put back in for something that all of us know it's going to break again in a few months?
We pay $80 a month and then $125 for each visit. American Home Shield puts us at ease. But me and my husband were discussing. Why are we even having American Shield if we have to pay extra? We were thinking the big items, like the AC, that's a risk that we are taking. But I don't think it's worth it for every other thing in the house sometimes.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. We’re glad to hear that submitting a claim through our app was easy. However, we apologize for the delays in service and the timeframe it took for the contractor to arrive, especially during cold weather when warm water was much needed. I've had issues with my refrigerator. The deli drawer was freezing, the freezer was not maintaining cold, and the top of the refrigerator was warm. The icemaker had also stopped working and it would drip water. I filed a claim and the process was easy.
But having the contractor come out was terrible. For one, their timing to be able to see you was a week. Then they come and they’re horrible at communication. The last time that they were here, I told the guy that I was upstairs working and not leave without talking to me. But he left. That’s how they did it every single time.
The last time before this, I stayed downstairs working off my computer on my dining room table. He walks out the door and I chase him. I asked if he was leaving and he told me that it was done. I asked him to go back and took him back to my refrigerator.
In all of the visits that they had done, he never addressed the deli drawer that was freezing. I was livid. Part of this was because they wouldn’t call me. I had to call them and tell them that a week had gone by, but I had no answer from them. They told me they ordered a part and that they didn’t know when it was coming. I asked for a tentative date and was told that it was the service guy who ordered so they didn’t know.
I asked to put me on the schedule. I knew they were gonna say it’s another week and when I call, it’s gonna be another week for them to come out. The rep said they can’t do that. And that’s exactly what happened. The part came in and it was another week for me to wait. Then the part didn’t work.
It was a long, horrible process. I will never, ever recommend those people. Even in the middle of the whole thing, I wanted to cancel my American Shield because it felt like they were not backing me up. I was spinning my wheels and I told them I needed a different provider. It was ridiculous. I can’t even talk with them.
To somebody who wants to use AHS, be careful who they assign to you. Do your own research, pull them up on Google and find out who the people are. I was with their sister company and I never had a problem with who they sent. I could even tell them that I wanna go with my Georgia plumber and they would say okay. But with AHS, there’s not enough vendors to have a choice.
When I was in the middle of the whole thing, I told one of the service girls to get me someone else and she refused. She told me I already have a ticket open with them. I don’t understand why they’re not trying to help me. I was so upset. Finally, I told them to send me through the process.

They first told me the issue was the zoning board. When they had to come back out again in a week’s time, it was the switch. I was gonna call them again because I smelt a burning smell. I wasn't sure if it was my heat but I wanted somebody to come out and see what exactly was going on.
I’d tell others to get insurance like American Home Shield. But I will advise them of the price. American Home Shield keeps going up on my price. Both deductible and monthly fees went up. I've been told that other places were cheaper. That aside, it helps to know that in that time of crunch, when you don't necessarily have thousands of dollars to dish out, you can pay your home warranty and they'll bring somebody out. If they aren't able to fix a unit, they will replace it.

We've been a customer of American Home Shield for a long time, and 90% of our interactions have been very good. What I like most is being able to go to one business to deal with these home issues.
We called them twice for our air conditioning units. The first call was several months ago for our unit that covered our game room area. The technician who came out didn't fix anything and we were incredibly dissatisfied with that.
The second call was for the same problem. A different guy came out and he was very helpful. I told him what happened. He just shrugged his shoulders and said, "Yeah, that guy doesn't work for us anymore." It was a problem with the motherboard, and so he changed it out. It works just fine.
Their communication needs to be better. For instance, this claim we have open right now, they told us we owe the plumber $501 and some change with no explanation as to why. So we contacted the plumbing group and they said they don't know why American Home Shield would charge us that. We are now in the process of following up with them about that. They need to do more explanation.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. It's great to hear that, ultimately, the issue with your air conditioning unit was resolved by our technician. We aim to provide seamless service but regret the inconvenience during the initial attempt and documentation with external services like plumbing. The miscommunication regarding your bill deeply concerns us, and we'll directly address it to clarify any misunderstandings. American Home Shield dispatched a company to come out and work on my AC that wasn’t working. The first company was not so good, mainly because the person who came out insisted I needed to change a part that didn’t need changing. I sent an email to AHS and the representative confirmed that I didn't need that. She dispatched another company, and that company did a good job. So far, the AC seems to be working. They actually did a good job. It was easy to submit the claim. I called and they opened a ticket. The person who I spoke to was friendly, and dispatched someone to come out. They were friendly, attentive, and took their time to understand what the issue was. They did it in a timely manner.
A while back, I had an account with AHS, and the customer service wasn’t as great. But this time around, the company they dispatched was responsive. The representative from American Home Shield was also very nice. I had a good experience with every person I spoke to so I wanna give them credit. It was really nice and I appreciated that. I think it was wonderful. It’s a huge difference from what it was in the past.
When AHS contracts good companies that have good reviews, it makes a huge difference. We don't wanna have someone who doesn’t show up, or come late, and then take three weeks to order parts. That used to be my experience in the past. Now it’s great. Having the right contractors working for AHS definitely changed the reputation of the company..
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We are delighted to hear that you've noticed positive changes and found our customer service and follow-up efforts commendable. We're also glad to hear that the second visit promptly and efficiently resolved your air conditioning issue. Should you need any further assistance, please visit our website . When my my garbage disposal was leaking, I placed the claim online initially when the first person came out. On the second time, I called them for the same issue. When the initial contractor came in I told him what the problem was and I had described to him what previously happened, that I had cleaned out the water but it appeared to be coming from the garbage disposal. He looked at the garbage disposal and said that he didn't see any water leaking, and if it happened again, for me to give them a call. It wasn't leaking every day but when I used it around Thanksgiving, it started leaking again so I had put a plastic container underneath it just in case it started leaking again.
I called the company because he said he would come back out if it started leaking again but he did not come back out. They suggested that I call AHS and reschedule them. I called AHS told them that I needed my garbage disposal fixed because it was leaking again and it's an inconvenience.
I have paid for someone to fix it initially and they did nothing. The guy didn't even go underneath it to see where it was leaking from. The second guy did. He was very personable and he described what was going on and that it was leaking from the seal. If he didn't use a flashlight to do an assessment of what was going on with the garbage disposal, he wouldn't have discovered it.
He fixed it and I haven't had any problems since. I still keep the plastic container underneath it just as a shield in the event it does start leaking.
I'm satisfied with the second vendor but not with the first one. I'm completely satisfied with AHS. Sometimes you do get contractors that are not so great, but I'm not gonna hold that against them. They've been very reliable and I will continue to use their service.

There was a charger that was being plugged into the electrical outlet. As soon as it plugged, there was a spark and you can see where it was black around where it was smoking. Then in my electric fireplace, there was another outlet that would trip off everything when plugged. I even have a surge protector on.
Submitting the claim online was easy. I received an email notification that MY Custom Electric would be contacting me, and the contractor did. But, I was not satisfied with the service because all he did was take something and plug it into the electrical outlet and then said that they were working properly. So, since they were working properly, there was nothing that could be done. He said that the fireplace is considered a small appliance, so for it to work properly, I would have to plug it in through the kitchen.
I had moved the fireplace to another location in the same room and it ran for two hours fine. When he got here, it was even running. He was basically saying that I would have to wait until something catches on fire before it would be repaired, so I was quite disappointed. He did nothing. I called American Home Shield back and they said that if they send somebody out that I would have to pay another $100. I was not going to do that. If somebody came and told me the same thing the previous contractor said, I would have been out of $200. I was already pissed I was out of $100.
They could have had somebody come back out behind this prior contractor without me having to pay for another free. Somebody in my subdivision said that they had the same issue with a space heater being repaired that had caught fire. So, I cannot take the risk of using my fireplace again with the possibility of catching on fire. Overall, I was very dissatisfied with the service and the response I received when I called back.

I have three claims this month with American Home Shield. They sent somebody out within a day or two. One of my claims is for a refrigerator that they said was repaired but it wasn't. A tech had to come back. Now, he needs to order another part for the refrigerator because the part he put in broke. I'm still waiting on the parts. The tech came and worked on a washing machine too. When he left, water wouldn't run into the tub. I had to have him come back out here. He came back and found that the hose was kinked in the back and it was his fault that it happened. He fixed that and the washing machine's working fine. I'm also waiting on a part for my air conditioning.
American Home Shield has treated me right and I'm happy with them right now. I have recommended them to several people and one of the people I recommended them to signed up with them.

Each time a contractor came out, the first thing they wanted to do was replace the water heater. The first time they came out, it had something to do with the starter. The tech looked at the date and said something needed to be replaced. I told him to hold off on that. I did some research and I fixed the problem.
Seven years later, I had another issue with the pressure. Techs came and they put up a pressure regulator. But when they left, they never adjusted it so it was wide open. This is why my water heater right now is leaking at both sides. I got Spire out to replace it and their guy is about to walk through the door.
American Home Shield is a waste of time because people are properly trained and nobody really cares. They're supposed to come out here to fix things and not replace them. Replacing is the last option. But that’s not the case. I told American Home Shield that they can’t keep hiring people who are out here robbing people, because that's what they're doing.

We had a contractor come out for our oven. He was friendly and diagnosed the problem very quickly. It took a bit longer than I expected to hear back from him. It was then identified as not fixable. It had to be replaced. That was not a great experience. The replacement they first issued was not like-for-like, so I had to call them. They gave me an electric range with an oven, or maybe an electric oven with a gas range. We have gas for both. We have a downdraft oven. They did not give me a downdraft. Our pool pump wasn't working and we didn't know what was going on with it. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online. I put in a service ticket and they called us. Technicians came out and looked at it. It was not the pump that was the issue. Apparently, there was an electrical issue. The technicians referred it back to American Home Shield and Solomon Construction came and took a look at the electrical work.
Solomon said they couldn't get in touch with me. But I only got one message and it was on a Friday afternoon. I called back Monday morning and they said they cancelled the work order. I had to call American Home Shield to have them reopen the ticket so Solomon could come back. They're closed for the holidays and they're not able to come until after the New Year.
I've had American Home Shield in all of my houses. I’ve had the warranty for 10 years. I bought an older home and I was worried that things would go bad. I wanted to have the extra coverage. I had to make a few claims and after that, I said, “I'm never gonna not have the additional warranty to help with those things.” Get an American Home Shield warranty. It is worth having because they help cover things that your homeowner's insurance wouldn't cover. It is also easy to file a claim and usually pretty straightforward.

Our microwave wasn't working so we filed a claim with American Home Shield. Everything was smooth and easy. It was online and I liked the process. They give you a technician and he shows up. A technician came, reviewed what it was, and he thought it had to do with some parts. He then ordered the parts. It took almost a week and a half to get the parts. He changed the parts but the microwave was still not working. He determined that they needed more parts. He went back and forth for almost a month until he finally got the right parts that were damaged inside the microwave. It was a severe damage and it was a lot of parts.
It was a long process until the technicians figured out what it was, and then they fixed the microwave. It was also time-consuming because we spent a whole month without a microwave until they got all the parts needed to do the replacement. At the end of the day, they spent more money on parts and labor figuring out what was wrong instead of just replacing the microwave. Sometimes it's better to get something new and save money. Not for me because I'm paying a fixed rate. But for American Home Shield, it should be easier. Now, the microwave is working. But the technician told us it will probably break again because it's coming to the end of the cycle for the appliance. American Home Shield is worth it but they should streamline the process of what they're doing.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We're pleased to hear that the claim submission process was convenient and that our technician was thorough in diagnosing the issues with your microwave. We understand that the extended repair time and the decision regarding part replacement versus unit replacement could have been more effectively managed, and we value your suggestion regarding immediate replacements for heavily damaged appliances. Your insights are incredibly valuable in helping us enhance our service efficiency. We sincerely appreciate your feedback and hope to use it to improve future appointments. American Home Shield was a super duper bad company. I submitted a claim for an oven microwave. It's an appliance that's attached together. As usual, American Home Shield forward this to a company. The company said they could not communicate with me, although I called them and they said that they would get back to me with an appointment. But they canceled the dispatch from their end.
American Health Shield put out another dispatch for another company. That company’s representative showed up and he said, “I cannot open this appliance. You need to bring a handyman to bring it out because it's attached to the wall.” I said, “What are you talking about? I'll do it.” I brought the appliance out and he just touched it a little bit. He said it needed the controller to be changed and that they could fix this within a week or two. That was fine by me.
The representative said they were gonna call me with the time to come back. I called them and they said they were gonna come next week to fix it. Next week came and I called them. They said, “Sorry. We did not tell you, but this needs about 10 to 12 weeks for the part to come and we can fix it.” That can be very frustrating. We have three kids and they go to school. We need to fix them a lunchbox every morning. That's already taken a lot of time from us.
I called American Home Shield and they said they had to go by the company, but they could offer me a second opinion, which was gonna be a third company. I did that. A guy came to the house and he did not even touch the appliance. He said, “Okay, yeah, I know.” And then, he wrote something on the papers and left. His supervisor then called me and he said they would fix that for me. Something needed to be changed and to give him some time. He said one or two days. I gave him that.
That whole time, we were running through time. I called them after two days and he said he would study this at the end of the day and he would respond to American Home Shield. I thanked him. I received an e-mail at the end of the day that the dispatch was canceled. I called American Home Shield and they said the appliance was damaged by the previous owner, which did not make any sense because I've been in this house for two years now. There was no way that the oven and the microwave were broken for two years. There was no previous owner. But American Home Shield said they were just gonna cancel everything altogether. That really got me very furious. They did not even want to do a cashout. I wanted to cancel everything. And I have many policies with them because I have rental houses.
I ended up giving American Home Shield one more chance. I put another dispatch for the microwave but they canceled that. Another thing was they went back to the old dispatch and said, “Now, maybe we will offer a cashout, which is about 699.” I received the cashout but that was after three months of going back and forth with them. All the frustration for me and my family happened because they just went back and forth with causes that were not logical like the previous owner or water. It was all lies.
Whatever American Home Shield provided did not cover anything from what I did. I paid another company $140 to come out and do a diagnostic. This was JennAir, which was the brand of the appliance. They said they would fix it within one week and they asked for $1,100. I said, “I have a home warranty. Why I pay $1,100?” I told American Home Shield that and they said they cannot go with an outside company. They had to go with their own companies. I then ended up buying a new appliance from Costco for $3,000. It was delivered today and it will be installed in two hours.

American Home Shield approved only a TXV repair on an older HVAC R-22 system even after their own contractor stated the repair has no guarantee, the compressor condition is unknown, and TXV freeze-ups can damage the compressor. The repair estimate was $5,257.98, requiring $2,676 out of pocket, yet AHS offered only $1,485 cash in lieu despite replacement estimates around $8,500–$8,800. This forced a choice between a speculative repair or an unreasonably low settlement. Very disappointing claims handling.

My washer was not going through its last cycle, so the clothes were still sopping wet when I pulled them out. I reached out to American Home Shield via the app. It was definitely easier to reach them because you don’t have to wait for somebody to pick up. I didn’t have to worry about online hours or having to go through all the different buttons to get to somebody.
The technicians came out in a timely manner. I didn’t like what they had to say, but they said it professionally and factual. I did call them again yesterday to cancel my services, and then gave them another opportunity to come out to look at my washer. They also have those little promos where if you get somebody to join, then you get a $25 gift card. However, I called them three times because I never got my gift card but they didn’t help me resolve that.
I feel like the prices are reasonable.
Thank you for taking the time to provide your honest perspective. Our escalations team will follow up via email to help ensure the best possible outcome.

DO NOT USE American Home Shield! I have an approved “in lieu of” claim filed and approved in 2023. For TWO YEARS I have been calling them nearly monthly, but have not received the money. First they would only send the payment to the property address which I explained has NO USPS service. They said they had no way to send a check anywhere else, even though I also had my primary home on the policy. They mailed a check several times to the property address which was either returned or destroyed by the post office. Finally early 2025, they found a way to send the check to my primary residence, but I never received it. This is now DECEMBER 2025!!!! Every single time I call I get the same scripted response…. There are no notes in the file, I will have to refer this to accounting to find out what happened and will call you back in ONE BUSINESS DAY. In 6 months I have never received a call back or a check.
One month ago after an hour on the phone I was told they would make an ACH payment to my bank account. 2 weeks ago I was told they “think it’s in process and to wait another 2 weeks”. I spoke to someone in escalation today, after 2 weeks, and was told there are no notes in the file and they need to escalate this and send it to accounting again for review. In addition, I no longer own the home but they said I have to keep the account open in order for them to process/investigate the claim and they are charging me $113/mo which I have to dispute every month with my bank. Their processes are USELESS, customer service is completely scripted and the people that you are able to speak to on the phone are COMPLETELY USELESS!
Thank you for sharing these details with us—it’s clear that our processes have fallen short, and I understand how upsetting this must be. I’d greatly appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly, review your claim thoroughly, and ensure we take immediate steps toward resolving this matter.
Please know that your experience matters to us, and I’m committed to making this right.

NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. We used them for years with no real issue, until recently. Our water heater tank cracked. We needed a new water heater in the home we own. Called American Home Shield, they sent Myers. Myers verified that the tank was cracked and water heater needed to be replaced, along with $1500 of unnecessary "modifications" that we would be required to pay out of pocket before they would come replace the water heater. Got a second opinion THROUGH AHS to verify our original issue and, wouldn't you know it, we ONLY needed a water heater! AHS refused to let the second company install due to it "being the same issue."
Myers REFUSED to install just a water heater because they weren't making diddly. They even stooped so low as to offer a "30% discount" due to my family being without hot water for A WEEK trying to work with AHS and Myers. AHS offered us a $300 cash out for the repair, which didn't even cover the water heater. Ended up canceling AHS and asking the "#2 at Myers" how he slept at night cheating families for a living. My husband and I replaced the tank ourselves in about 2 hours and $700. There was a complete lack of customer service and NO possibility to speak to someone on a higher level that COULD possibly help.
I went so far as to get my personal insurance agent involved, who talked to multiple different people at AHS on the phone, each one less helpful than the last, and even she couldn't get in touch with an area manager to get more personal about the situation. I have told everyone I know about the horrible experience and how much money we lost/wasted on the top tier plan for almost a decade. It really hurt to know that not only were we being taken advantage of by an HVAC company from 100 miles away when there are dozens in the AHS group within 10 miles, but AHS didn't care that we couldn't shower, cook, LIVE in our own home without this repair. This had nothing to do with "meeting expectations."
AHS sent out the company that did the second opinion then denied them the work after they verified the "modifications" were not necessary! There was a lot of back and forth because you can never get the same person one the phone and it seems no two reps have access the same notes. This is just my warning to anyone looking into a home warranty and wanting to be heard by said company. This is NOT the one.
We're truly sorry to hear about your recent experience with our service. I signed up with American Home Shield online and that was easy. There were some unclear things so I still had to call to get some clarification on them. But the process wasn't bad. Later, I put in a claim and unfortunately, they sent the wrong contractor. Even though the first contractor that came out was great, I needed a plumber, which he wasn’t, so he wasn't able to help. He called his team and got somebody out here the same day. The correct person came but I didn't have the greatest experience with that contractor compared to the first guy that came out. The technician wasn't really listening to what the situation was. He just wanted to come upstairs, check the water running, do what he needed to do, and leave. It was like, “Okay. Well, I have to take pictures. I have to send it back. And if it's approved or not, you'll hear from them.”
Thank you for providing your feedback to us. They’ve been out a bunch of times, but they’ve no-showed on us three times.
We opened the claim back up with American Home Shield. There is a senior technician coming out on January 5th from Accord and it’s scheduled with my property manager. American Home Shield’s price is on the high end. I did call them on an AC issue, and the technician who visited me was very informed. I wanted an outside water faucet repaired, and it's not covered by AHS. There was miscommunication on my part. I paid for a service call from Esequel Maldonado Jr. Plumbing, and they informed me that it was not covered, that they would charge me. I had already paid the $100 deductible, so I sent them on their way. It's my understanding that the service call fee was not reimbursable. I had to pay somebody else who would be less expensive to get it repaired.

The contractor checked back with us, so they came out again and replaced another breaker. We’ve had heat ever since.
Their online process is pretty easy. You put in what's wrong, the make, model, and serial number, pay your deductible, which is 125, and they come out and fix it. They scheduled promptly and personally followed up, asking if we needed anything, telling us the technician’s name and when they’ll be there. They were very professional and on time. American home shield is a total scam. Their business model is to charge you a monthly fee and then when you have a repair charge you $120 to send the technician, which will then do a very short evaluation, if the repair is cheap, they will try to get the part and your item fixed. If it’s not cheap they will find a reason not to cover it and not care if you cancel. The reason they don’t care if you cancel is because they have so many people that never file a claim that pay their monthly bill, which are the customers that they want to keep.

I hadn't had a big problem with American Home Shield until my issue with the refrigerator. I think it's horrible that a senior citizen has to be out of service for a refrigerator from June to December without anybody really trying to take care of the issue. My refrigerator wasn't getting cold. It took six or seven dispatches before they started sending more senior technicians. The first technician did not speak English very well and did not communicate that there was a problem. He said it would start cooling in a couple of hours, but it never did.
American Home Shield kept telling me they needed to have a diagnosis to close the issue and cash it out. The problem was the vendor wasn’t giving the status of the issue back to American Home Shield. I kept telling them it wasn't my responsibility for their vendor to talk to them. They should have a better way of escalation. When you call and ask for escalation, the reps say they’ll refer you to someone and get back to you. They’ll push the issue forward and help set up another date. But there’s no definite answer and nobody ever gets back to you.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with American Home Shield. We sincerely apologize for the frustration you've encountered in resolving the issue with your refrigerator since June. American Home Shield has name recognition and I haven't heard of any other home warranty companies to compare them to so I went with them. They respond quickly but I’m on the fence with them. They don’t cover enough services and I had to pay some of these services out of pocket. And it’s so hard to get things replaced.
They wouldn't replace my AC unit this summer. I paid out of pocket for the hardware ‘cause I needed a new roller and it needed a tune-up. AHS doesn't cover those things so I had to pay $350 out of pocket plus the fee. My unit is 20 years old and needs replacing because it does not cool my house. It’s running constantly to get my house cooled down below a certain degree.
I also had just had the garage door serviced back in September because of the motor. The garage door company was amazing and the technician was really good and thorough. But now, the door wouldn't open due to limit switch issue. I called American Home Shield and the system prompts you to file a claim. I had to go through so many prompts in order to talk to a person. I can't ever talk to a human being upfront which I don’t like. I have to pay another fee to have it serviced again when it’s just barely 90 days since my last issue.
AHS always try to repair but they don't replace things. I pay my premium every month and they can’t replace my AC or my garage door opener. My dishwasher is also not working now and I keep having to reset it. It only works when it wants to.
I would tell other to shop around for a home warranty with a lower premium, and find out what things that they cover within the home and how much the coverage would be in terms of before making a decision.

The first company they assigned us to couldn't come out for a week. They assigned us to a second company and they diagnosed, and then Home Shield said that they were gonna order the parts. It was back and forth between Home Shield and the company.
Months later, they decided they needed a second opinion, so they sent another company out and they had to go back and forth with Home Shield, then Home Shield wanted to order the parts so it was cheaper. Eventually, it got fixed, but this was months while there was water leaking through my vent. I'm sure I have water damage due to that. The coverage was great, though. I had a friend who was at my Palm Springs house and happened to notice the water leakage from the valve that lets the water come in up to the toilet. We filed the claim through the web page but for the second time we talked to a person. My friend realized that the floats from two toilets needed to be replaced. He ended up having to call back for the second toilet. The problem is that down in Palm Springs, they have a lot of calcium in the water. Eventually they jam up these little valves.
The contractor was dispatched in two days and he was excellent. He was very personable and knowledgeable. He replaced both of the floats in each toilet. He also replaced both toilet valves that come out of the wall that bring the water into the toilet tank. He was very quick.
The only thing I don't like is that I have a sink that has the same problem because of the calcium in the water. One side of the sink has a problem and you know that the other side is going to have a problem in another six months, but they wouldn't replace the other one while they tech out there since it wasn't leaking at that time so the next time I go there I will probably have to call them again for a 5-cent part.
We've had AHS for about 10 years. They had somebody coming all the way from Riverside, which is really far away from Palm Springs–over an hour's drive. That wasn't as convenient because we can't get to them for a week. Still, AHS is a good service. It works out well for us because I want somebody that's down there. I don't know anybody in Palm Springs when we bought the place. I only have a renter for three months a year. If something goes bad I want somebody else to have to handle that because I'm 1,300 miles away.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We're pleased to hear that our timely response and the efficiency of the contractor met your expectations. It's our goal to provide you with convenient service, especially from a distance. We understand your disappointment regarding our policy on replacing parts proactively; however, your feedback is invaluable. I'm so unhappy with the result that was finalized with American Home Shield. I just keep getting calls to talk about the issue, but no one will change the outcome. My husband and I are both very busy and we just spent hours of our lives waiting for American Home Shield repair people to show up or on the phone with folks to talk through resolutions. We've wasted a lot of time and energy that resulted in something not getting fixed. Now, it's not getting replaced.
Everybody's polite, but it's just not an actual resolution. It feels like a scam. They send a repair person 75 times to cancel half of those times to not fix an issue, then send a different person that says they can't do a replacement.
I wouldn't recommend them. It was very difficult to deal with them. We bought our home in January and it is now December. We just got their final decision that they will not let me escalate. I had to beg for an email address to send the complaint in. I haven't sent the complaint yet because I wanna be thoughtful about writing it. I don't know if it's a real email address. I have my doubts because it took three escalations to even be willing to give me an email address.

My shower diverter wasn't working and dealing with the rep I spoke with on the phone went very well. The repair guys from Prime Cast Plumbing were very helpful and friendly. They had to get a part, but they came right back. The whole experience was great. I have something in the tub that needs to be fixed but it's been there for a while, so I'm not gonna be able to claim that. But I'm gonna have the same people come back. The only thing I didn’t get, which I’m used to getting from previous home warranties, is an invoice. I don’t know what it costs. I paid my deductible, so I assume American Home Shield covered it, but for my records, I’d like to have an invoice.

American Home Shield is good. I called them for a claim and technicians came out and changed the garbage disposal.

American Home Shield is an awesome company. They aren't gonna charge me for my services unless someone comes out and it's not covered, which I always double-check. But I have a problem with the company that originally came out for my refrigerator claim that started on the 28th of October. The people that came out kept trying to fix the outside of the refrigerator. You would push the thing to make the water come out and it wouldn't come out. They said something was wrong with the programmer on the top of the fridge, so they replaced that. They then took out the front part, where we push it to get the water to come out. The tech looked at it and said it should be fine. But it wasn't fine because in the middle of the night, I heard this funny noise. When I got up, the thing where you push the water to come out was coming out by itself. Nobody was pushing it. Water was all over my kitchen floor.
I called the tech back and told him that the thing came out. He said they already did everything they could do. I said, “But something's wrong. It's not coming out.” I was told to take the front off of the water and keep it on ice. But that was not what you're supposed to do. I called American Home Shield and told them the guys were not fixing the issue. This company might not be bad but they just could not figure out what was wrong.
American Home Shield sent out another guy. He already knew what it was. He took the front part off, where you push and the water comes off, and he looked at it. He said, “I'll order the part. When you push on it, there's something that's stuck because of the water buildup.” It had calcium on the inside. I asked, “How do I get it from not doing that? I have soft water.” The guy didn’t know. It's just Vegas and that’s what happens. But I've never had that happen before.
He came out again and he fixed the part. I haven't had it turn on automatically without me touching it and water comes out. It's a little slower but I'm not gonna complain about the water coming out slower than it should be because the water's coming out. So far, I've had no problems. If I have another problem within 30 days, I'll call back.
I would tell others they need American Home Shield because if anything goes wrong, they are there to fix it. I like that I get somebody virtually the next day, unless it's a weekend. Most places around here don't work weekends. If there is a part that has to be ordered, that's not their fault. When I get a service guy out straight away, I understand that he is not gonna fix the issue when he first comes out because he has to assess the situation. But when the part comes in, they let me know straight away and I'm always available for them.

Sometimes I get disappointed in their service. I've had American Home Shield for a lot of years, and I've had some stuff before and they didn't come out. When I had a problem with my water heater, I did a claim but they never showed up. I know they can't come out right away. But I had to get it done. I got a family of four and we all had to shower. I bought the water heater, paid $1,000 for it and installed it myself. If you need something ASAP, you can't get it ASAP. You have to wait. That's the only thing that makes me upset with American Home Shield. Sometimes it takes the company four days to call you back. If you have an emergency, they need to respond a lot faster.
That aside, I like the price. And when they come out and do the job, they do a good job. When there was leakage on my roof, Fog City Roofing came out. The guy got to the job, showed me what he did and was done.
Thank you for sharing your most recent AHS experience. We hope you continue to enjoy the customer service to ease your home repairs.

My experience with AHS is like two different worlds. The service side of it is excellent. I’ve had great experiences with the people they sent. One company comes regularly for plumbing and another company for air conditioning and heating. They’re terrific.
But the financial side is another story. When I first joined about four years ago, it was $70 a month and now it’s more than twice that. It’s $157 a month so it’s gone up astronomically each year. I’ve had some difficulties with them as far as calling and trying to make arrangements for lowering the price. What they always do is to have a discount rather than actually lowering the permanent price. When the next year rolls around, the starting point is the price that they have given from the last year.
I’m not so pleased with the way they handle the finances and they really have to do better. They have a hard sell approach and they just back up the prices each year once they get you in it, and that shouldn’t be for a loyal customer. But overall, I’m extremely pleased with the service.

My heater would not work. It would kick on and then the flame wouldn't stay on. It was just pulling cold air from outside. So I submitted the claim to American Home Shield online, which was pretty easy to navigate. The service and interactions with the contractor were fabulous.
Warm regards,
Marc
