    I used American Home Shield for a problem with my dryer and the claims process was quick. The techs came and fixed it but I’m still having the same problem. They’re coming back today. They replaced the pulley but they have to adjust the tension to get the noise off. Everything has been calm with AHS but they were prompt when I contacted them.

    So far, we've been satisfied with American Home Shield's service. Neighborhood Pool and Garage Door came out for the filter. We thought it was fixed, but it turns out it wasn't fixed. We just haven't put in another ticket yet. But I didn't have any issues with them. I had several people. They came out to fix the part that they thought was the issue, and they did it pretty quickly.

    There's been a few different contractors over the years that we've had some issues with. It's not a Home Shield issue. It's a contractor issue. The first pool company that they sent out to fix the pump did fixed the pump, but then they told us that the problem with the filter needed a separate ticket because it was a different issue. So, we put the ticket in and then the tech never showed back up to fix it. When I called Home Shield about it, they called him and he said he was too busy and to assign it to somebody else. There was an air conditioning place out of Tulsa that was awful, too. AHS sent them out twice. We've had to start asking for someone else, and the people they've sent out the last few times have been much better. Back in the very beginning, they sent a person out of Tulsa that was awful. He was rude and disrespectful.

    We have two pretty good-sized very old air conditioning units and furnaces. AHS has been beneficial as far as those because we've had to have several repairs between the two units. Then we also have the older pool system. Being an older home, I would definitely recommend having AHS. We've had issues with refrigerator, stove and microwave, too.

    The clothes dryer wouldn’t turn off. The tech came out here and he was very efficient. He took it apart, found out there was a problem with the computer within the thing, and he said they don’t make them anymore or the machine is too old. But he was able to fix it in a way that it's working fine now. The tech was very good. However, the overall claim process with AHS was a nuisance. I went through a lot of hoops to get to somebody.

    The claim submission process has been very smooth thus far. Recently, Westbrook Plumbing came out and the issue seems to be resolved. They got everything done in like 20 minutes. The only thing I would change with the process is getting a list of service providers I could choose from. I had an air conditioning claim and I was assigned one but when I did research, they did not have good reviews. And it was from a provider who was an hour and a half away from my house. But I got that fixed right away.

    I had an overflow in my attic and it was a pipe that was sticking straight up with nothing on the top of it and it was gushing out water. So, I called American Home Shield and Anders Air Conditioning couldn't come for three days. I found it in my closet. It was coming through my vent, but it was just dripping. I thought, "Where's this coming from?" When I went up in the attic and looked, there was water all over the place. That was when I called. When they said they couldn't come for two or three days, I thought, "Okay, I've got to figure this out. What's going on?"

    So, I went outside to see if it was draining, and it was draining, but I thought, "Maybe it's just clogged up further up in the drain." I got a coat hanger and stuck it up there, and then a bunch of water came out. After that, it stopped overflowing. When the tech came, he looked at it, looked outside, looked inside and he blew it out for me. He said, "This could happen again. So, on your contract, it says you can blow it out." He was a very nice man. I appreciated him very much. He seemed very knowledgeable about what to do.

    My ice maker went out and AHS sent B&B, which I hope they don't use anymore. I had two faucets that needed to be fixed and they fixed one and never came back. When my ice maker went out, they sent somebody out. This was in June. It needed a part, and nothing happened. So, AHS sent Sears out and the Sears tech said we need a new motor and they're going to order that for me. He had talked American Home Shield.

    It took forever. They were sending the parts to me. I didn't know it at the time. I just kept getting these packages. I didn't know what to do with them because I didn't order them. Then, when I called them to find out what was going on, they said, "There's four parts and they're not all in yet." So, I said, "Okay, that's what's being sent to me." The Sears guy came, he called AHS and told them, "It's going to be better for you to replace it than to just have all these parts in here." AHS would replace it, but I had to get it, and they would only pay up to $2,000 for it.

    So, I ordered it and it's supposed to be here between the next six weeks or so, but it's costing me $3,000 instead of the 2,000. So, I'm out $1,000 because they didn't cover the whole thing. But we're not there yet because they said they would do up to $2,000 and I had to sign it within so many days. This was before I had a chance to even look for one. So, I signed it, and then I'm finding out that they're a lot more than that and this is just the one I had. It's not even an upgrade. At this price, I couldn't even afford an upgrade, which if I had, I would have been happy to pay the overage. Overall, American Home Shield has called people to come, but their choices haven't been that good always. They have called some good people though.

    We had AHS back in California for two years. Then, we moved to Texas and California. We've been out here for seven months. So, we had AHS for about three years. We had a few bumps in the road with them. It's been a little bit hit and miss. It was a lot better when we were out in California. But with the new property, we had some issues with transferring the service over. There were a few complications. But, it's been manageable. We had some leaks recently. The company they sent didn't do a good job in communicating or responding or the actual work. So, we had AHS re-issue the order. The Lindsay Company came out. They were very prompt and responsive. They fixed the issue for us to our satisfaction.

    AHS's service is pretty good if you can get the right person to talk to. They could stop sending our calls to overseas reps because they don't understand what we're trying to say and it makes it worse. It's like a never-ending loop. But AHS has done well for us and we haven't had any issues getting things repaired.

    The initial issue was the belt in my dryer. It would go on and get hot. It just wouldn't spin. I spoke to American Home Shield on the phone and they just asked me what was going on. I let them know what I was experiencing. I received a text saying what company would come out and what times they would be there. When they came, they pretty much confirmed it. They found out the belt was ripped. It went smooth and efficient. I've been an AHS member since March. I used the service a few times already for tune-ups to my HVAC as well. I would recommend them.

    I got a prompt response when I submitted a claim for the toilet. Someone was immediately contacted to handle the job. The service provided by the tech was excellent. He’s experienced in his job. He was also friendly and willing to pay attention to what was happening and was able to offer a solution for it. He put a snake in it and it was a wipe that was stuck in the toilet and he was able to bring it out. However, American Home Shield charges 100 bucks. If I should report on that plumbing work, I’m gonna pay 100 bucks. If I report any electrical problem, I’m gonna pay 100 bucks. So, that limits my satisfaction with this policy. If they can reduce the 100 bucks, that could make sense.

    All of a sudden, I saw puckering in the wall and I knew there was a leak somewhere in the bathroom. I called American Home Shield and they set up someone right away, which I appreciated. I didn't have to wait a long time before the two repair guys came out. They came out the day and time they promised they were going to come, and they immediately determined what the problem was. They found the leak, drilled in the wall and tucked little sections out on two places. They did a good job on this. American Home Shield had sent their company several times before. Sometimes, I called them and I'm not that pleased with them, but I was very pleased with these two guys. I’m waiting for the person that AHS is gonna send out, Ample Home, to finish repairing that.     We had an AHS warranty at our old home and we had no issues with them, so we set it up for our new home as well. Recently, my dryer stopped working. We called AHS then the guy came out and he knew exactly what he was doing as far as getting it working again. Aside from that, we had a washer problem a while back and AHS gave us a brand new one. They couldn't fix it and the guy said that it wasn't worth fixing. All in all, American Home Shield is pretty good.

    The AC's motor broke and I called AHS. At first, they couldn't send me anybody and it was a week wait. I had GVEC as my electrical provider and they do air conditioning and heating as well, so they came out and diagnosed it for me. They told me what was wrong with it and how much it would be to repair it. Then I called American Home Shield back and today, I had another company come out. Their guy was in agreement on what GVEC said was wrong with the AC and he repaired it. He had to replace it and I was charged $75. The guy that came out was knowledgeable and knew what he was talking about. But when I called AHS for this claim, the customer service rep that I spoke to was not that great and didn't respond quickly. I was unsatisfied with their customer service but once the contractor got involved, the experience was streamlined.

    I was having problems with a couple of different things and every time, it seemed like the breaker flipped, so I thought it was the breaker. Apparently, it wasn't. I had a house burned down because of electrical before, so I'm afraid of electrical issues. When I had two problems in the house at the same time, I thought maybe it's in the electrical. The home warranty company sent out an electrician first then when the electrician left, he said, “I'll let them know. And they'll have somebody else come out to fix the microwave.”

    When my microwave went out for the third time, American Home Shield sent somebody out from Sears and changed the fuse again. They tell me it's a fuse every time. A fuse goes out in the microwave and then I have to pay $75 to get it fixed. The home warranty company should have replaced the microwave instead of having to do this three different times. I was happy with Sears, with the first one that came out to fix it, but I am not happy with American Home Shield. If I have the choice, I would never take out American Home Shield again. I would never advise anybody to. I also had an experience with them before that was not good at all.

    AHS's automated system doesn't respond very well. It asks a bunch of stupid questions. So, I just end up trying to talk to a live person. Everything usually works fine when I submit a claim and customer service is usually pretty good. Sometimes it takes a while to get a hole of somebody but they work. I had a problem with my refrigerator. Because of my schedule, it took a little bit of time for the contractor to come. They were professional, had their mask on and told me what was going on. I explained what was happening, they looked at it, and they knew what it was immediately. It was just a clogged drain and the techs fixed it really quickly. Having a home warranty saves money. You got to pay some money every month. Sometimes, you don't use it, but in the long run, it more than evens out. I'm very satisfied with AHS.

    American Home Shield sent TLC Appliance Repair to fix the washing machine. It was leaking. I went online and made a claim for AHS to have somebody come out and look at it. The website's pretty easy to use. You really can't go wrong. You just put down what it is, and then they notify you that they've got it, they accepted it, and who they notified. They give you the number to the company, so you can either call them yourself or you can wait for them to call you.

    TLC is fine. The guy that came out was great. He was very careful. He knew what he was doing. He explained everything he was doing. There was no guessing as to what was wrong with it. He also didn't just fix what was there. He took a look at everything while he had it apart. He fixed a couple of other things that had worn. So, I was really happy with him. Everything works great now. Matter of fact, the agitator part now works better because he fixed that part. You should look into AHS. They've always responded. I never had any issues.

    American Home Shield sends out contractors that look like they try and get bids for higher jobs, for stuff that's not even accurate. They've done work on my AC every year for the last four years. They keep saying it's just the thermostat and they change it, but I don't understand how a thermostat goes out every summer. One time we had to wait because TJ Morgan couldn't fix the thermostat right away, not until they got approval. I was in a house with a six-year old daughter at the time. It's in the dead heat of the summer, so we paid for the thermostat to be put in, then the contractor was supposed to send the bill to American Home Shield for us to replace our $100.

    They lied and said that they had wires hanging out and they had to repair them. We went back and forth for almost a month with them lying. I took pictures, showed American Home Shield, and still never got my money back. Don't go with this home warranty company. The only reason we keep it is because it's a cheaper cost than having to come completely out of pocket, so sometimes we have to deal with the bull.

    My air conditioning went out and while the air conditioning man was there, he found that I had a water leak underneath the house, so I also put in a plumbing claim. I paid a $100 deductible on each one. Parts were ordered for the heat and air system to make the repair then before it was over, I had to pay almost $500 out of my pocket even though I had the Home Shield insurance. I wasn't pleased about that. They said it was for refrigerant and there's refrigerant in every system.

    They do not give all the information to the consumer about what they're gonna have to pay. I was expecting since I had the Home Shield insurance that $100 deductible would be all I would have to pay, but that's not the way it ended up. If they replaced the entire system with a new system and it cost me 500, I could have understood that better. They looked at a 20-year-old system and decided to repair it. I’m gonna keep the insurance in place. If it goes out, I’ll call them again.

    AHS should hire companies that give clients a better timeframe when they visit. When they tell me that they're gonna be there from 8:00 in the morning to 5:00 pm and they give me only 30 minutes a call in advance, there is no way that I'm gonna be able to make it. They have good service but if they could reduce the time frames to at least two hours, that will be very helpful for everybody. I can set up my schedule and coordinate with my customers because I'm working too.

    A technician fixed my dryer that was squeaking really bad. However, I was supposed to get my heating system serviced thru American Home Shield. But it is oil and I found out that they don't do the tune-up with it. That wasn't as nice as I thought it was going to be. I ended up getting a heating company to supply the oil and tried to get them out here to do the tune-up.     I like American Home Shield’s service but I didn't like that they increased my premium last year by $21 without informing or asking me. I let it pass because it was the pandemic and I didn't have the energy to fight it. If that was to happen again, it will be bad. I'll leave and go somewhere else. At this point, I haven't had a chance to sit down and evaluate other plans and look into maybe Choice and see. If AHS was there to let me know and give me a valid reason to increase the price, I could have done it. But they just charged the bank details on file without letting me know. That was a blow below the gut. In insurance and everything, it happens once in a while. You ask and you talk back and forth and say why it's going to go up. But just without notifying me sucks.

    I've had other insurance five years ago and the communication and the coverage are the same. But the contractors these days that American Home Shield sends out seem to be more professional, know what they're doing and not the cheapest out in the market. I enjoy it. People should watch out for the price increase but other than that, they should go with AHS.

    I had some leaky pipes and I submitted a request online to American Home Shield. The techs fixed it and took off. So, it was all very quick and I’m satisfied because it’s not leaking anymore.     I submitted a claim through the website of AHS. The website was fine and easy to navigate. There was something going on the outside air conditioning unit. The blade had fallen off the motor. The tech came by and reattached it. I was pleased with the service provided by the tech. It was a pretty efficient, short process. I was glad that it wasn't any more serious. It was fine.

    I was afraid to use the air conditioner prior to the repair. I thought that it could lead to the exacerbation of the issue. It was a very hot day. Had a home office in the area that was impacted. So being able to have it fixed allowed me to turn the air conditioner on and allowed me to complete my work in a much more comfortable environment.     I had a couple of recent claims to American Home Shield. One of them went pretty well and one of them was not so well. There was a situation where I had a leaking pipe over the weekend. They told me that they had somebody available that could do an emergency sort of repair, and that didn't end up working out. The company that they asked me to talk to was only open Mondays through Fridays. I didn't get a phone call back until the following Tuesday. If you have a leaking pipe in your roof, you should get that addressed immediately. So, that wasn't a really good experience.

    There was an issue after that like a clogged toilet situation. They sent somebody out right away. I was happy with them pretty much up until the most recent thing. Once I talked to the company that they assigned me to and realized that the company weren't even open on the weekends no matter what, it was even more frustrating that they gave that information. If they didn't have somebody available for 24 hours, I would like to see them reimburse my claim. I do spend a lot of money on the warranty. So, I would expect that. It took me three phone calls to American Home Shield to get this supposed emergency person coming out. It was like, "How many more fake people are you going to get me to come out here that you're going to say is emergency, but they're not emergency people?”

    They told me that because I didn't call back and have it escalated, my claim escalated that it was not going to be approved. I explained to them that that was what I did when I told them I had a pipe leaking in my ceiling. We didn't see eye to eye there. So, it is what it is. They should have a better knowledge of who is available to service each items.

    About two weeks ago, I had a plumbing issue and American Home Shield sent out a plumber. He found the cause of the problem and had to cut the sheetrock out in order to access it. They determined the cause of the leak and got that fixed. A week ago, I called back to American Home Shield because part of the contract is that they are to do a rough patch on the sheetrock where it was cut. They assigned it to a contractor.

    After two days, I hadn't heard from the company, so I called the phone number that was provided. The fellow acknowledged that he was the technician and went on to tell me that he'd recently had knee surgery and was unable to do this kind of work. He said, “I'll look at our schedule and see what I might be able to get you in.” Up until yesterday, I'd never heard back from him. I called again yesterday and left my name, phone number and message and asked him to please get back with me. I needed to get this scheduled and I've yet to hear back from him. I'm not real pleased. He knows that he is supposed to take care of the work and he has yet to even schedule it, let alone attempt the repair.

    Every now and then, I meet people that work harder than others as far as the customer service is concerned. But as a whole, we've had American Home Shield for some years now and I love it. Being paralyzed, AHS helps me feel empowered because I can just make a phone call and get someone out here. I have a plan that does appliances as well so I love that aspect of it.

    But some months ago, I called about a dryer as our clothes weren't getting dry. AHS sent someone to look at it and that person informed me that the issue wasn't the dryer because they noticed that the clothes weren't wringing out well from the washer. So they said, "The problem is not your dryer. It's your washer that's making it seem like it's your dryer because the clothes are so wet. When you put them in there, you have to run several cycles to get them dry."

    So I called American Home Shield back and reported that information. And they said, "Okay. No problem. We'll just switch it over to the washer and we'll get it done." But the person that came out from that particular company, they were very difficult to reach. So every time I called AHS back, I would talk to someone, they'll tell me that they'll call that particular company and they're gonna call back. I never get a call back from either the company themselves or AHS.

    Recently, I talked to a rep who was able to handle it on the phone, understanding that she wasn't able to get in touch with them. She said, "Well, I tried. So this is what we're going to do. We're going to refund you for the dryer. And we're just going to start a new case on the washer. And that way, it's still the same since you'd never got your dryer fixed. And now we're going to just use that to pay for the new case for a washer.” And since then, the washer has been fixed. That was the first rep that I've had who took the time out and was eager to help. The others that promised to call back, never called back.

    But this is an isolated thing. Over the years, I've gotten great service. Go for American Home Shield. It saves you a lot of time and energy. I recently got my grandmother on AHS but I'm still looking for the gift card that I was promised all those months back.

    There was water in the basement and I wasn't sure where it was coming from. But I had already had it checked out from an independent basement company and they said it was not groundwater. They said it was the furnace, but it turned out to not be the furnace. It was the air conditioner. I texted in the American Home Shield website what type of claim it was and it gave me a bunch of selections. I got a text message that evening. I got another message the following day, assigning the person, and I got a phone call from them. They gave me the window. I was home and I got a phone call 15 minutes before the appointment. He told me he was on his way and he would be there shortly. He was very professional, took his shoes off, got right to the issue and looked around and outside of the air conditioner, and fixed the problem.

    He looked into a few different things first and determined that it was not the furnace. He took that off, looked at the air conditioner and said, "This hose looks like it's plugged up. Let's do some pouring water down the hose to flush it out." And explained to me what happens with the water that is collected in that overflow. It needs a place to go. Otherwise it should have gone down this hose, but it clearly didn't because it was blocked. And he showed me some of the debris that was in there and where I could clean it myself next year. He told me to put the air conditioner on for at least a day and check under to see if there were any drops, and there hasn't been.

    I went outside in the garage and saw water coming out. I called AHS immediately late on a Sunday evening and at around 8:00 on Monday morning, someone from Your Texas Plumber was here. As soon as the plumber saw it, he said the water heater was done. The next day, they came, shut it down, and cleared it out. Then, the next guy showed up with the brand new one. He hooked it up, made sure everything was running properly, and it was good to go. Everything worked faster than I thought it would and was more efficient. It's pretty awesome to pay a certain packet to get these things done. When something like a water heater goes out, it's a significant thing to have to pay for so we were very happy all-around with the packet we paid for versus having to buy one on sale. My wife and I were very pleased how things went down overall.

    The technicians who came for the plumbing claim were very courteous and they told me what was wrong with my toilet. They sent me a text saying they were waiting for an authorization number to get me a new toilet. They installed a new one and it worked. But the toilet stopped up again. It's probably the apartment I live in as it's old. I encourage you to purchase American Home Shield because it's really good when you’re having issues.     I had a garbage disposal go out and American Home Shield replaced it. The techs were professional. I've only had American Home Shield come out here for minor things, but when it came to something major, it took a long time for them to get everything taken care of. When it came to getting my AC replaced, it was very poor communication between the contractor that they sent and what their responsibility was supposed to be. It was in the dead of summer and I constantly called back and tried to figure things out.

    The AC has a lot of different parts to it and when the contractor first came out and did the initial assessment, they assessed one thing was wrong. When they came out and replaced that one thing, which was the filter, they found out that there were these little balls that were inside the filter that went throughout the whole system. After they replaced that, they turned the AC back on then it messed up the condenser up in the attic for the blower. The time from when my initial claim went into service until they repaired and fixed everything was almost two and a half months. Other than the experience with the AC unit, everything else has been good and I've been satisfied.

    I was enjoying American Home Shield's service in the beginning because with the first ticket request I put in, someone was sent out within a day. But I have that same ticket reopened and pending and it's been three weeks. I'm not really thrilled about the fact that it's been 15 days and I haven't had air conditioning. It's been hot and humid. I keep being told that the approval is pending and they'll reach out to me. But it's been two weeks and it's kind of frustrating me. It would be great to get phone updates when there's a ticket because I don't really have much of an update on the online portal. I find myself asking what to expect with the timeframe instead of being told that automatically.

    Also, the contractor, Eagle Air, did good but the issue started with noise happening and they focused on the inside unit. This could have been a little bit quicker resolved if they did a double check on the outside unit as well. We could have nipped this in the bud a week faster than it's taking. It's been a really long time. My renewal is coming up and I'm waiting for that to get resolved before I put in a renewal.

    Doing claims with American Home Shield is really easy online. We had a claim recently and Kevin came out. He was great. In fact, on other places that we have that are not under a warranty, I call Kevin. At the place he was called for first, it was for a dishwasher. The pump is someplace between 8 months and 18 months coming in so I now wash dishes by hand. Having a home warranty is pretty carefree for anything that goes wrong. You just go online and submit what the issue is. So, I don't have to go find a contractor. AHS gets a contractor, they come out and take care of my issue. I have a copay for that and they fix it, and I know it's guaranteed and I get on with my life.

    The air conditioner wasn't working right. You set it in one setting and it would go to a different setting as soon as you get two seconds later. When Dave, the tech, came out, the fan was broken and there were different things he showed me that had to be thrown out such as the plastic part that was already melted. He showed me piece by piece what he was doing, and explained step-by-step and showed us what was wrong. He was wonderful. So far, everything is good and I hope it stays that way. I got my son, my grandson, my other grandson and anybody in my family to join American Home Shield. I'm 85 years old and to me, it is peace of mind.     The air conditioner would come on, but it wouldn't cool the house. I could see the lines on the unit were iced over. When the tech came over, he found out that the air handler inside the garage wasn't blowing. So, that was why the lines were freezing up. He did a really good inspection, looked at all the different components and found out that the panel that powers it needed to be replaced. So, he had one on hand and replaced it. It was really great.     Sometimes AHS does a good job but sometimes they do a poor job. We currently have an open project that's now going on three months old. So that doesn't say a whole lot for responsiveness. It started off with the poor supply vendor. After we went through that, they ended up swapping vendors, which started all over. Then they came back and said, “We'd like to replace it,” except we have to now argue with them over, there's no available replacement. This is a microwave, which we use every day. But the pool stuff company has been quite responsive a couple of times over the last couple of years. The claim process with AHS has also been straightforward. The biggest deficiency is, they don't have information on the supplier they use.

    Kintex came out to repair my faucet. They had to order a new one and came back out when the faucet came in and put it in for me. The tech was very helpful and he did what he came to do. The only thing that happened was the trashcan was unplugged. Once I realized that was the issue, I plugged it back in and everything was working fine. They did a good job in spite of that hiccup. Getting AHS is the best decision I ever made and it has come in very handy for me. I’ve used it four or five times and it just works for me.

    It's been really easy to deal with American Home Shield. I've been very happy with that. The people they've sent have provided good service for me. With the AC, they had to put in a new blower motor. It was just one visit. It was on a Sunday and it was raining. The tech tried to wait out the rain a little bit, but he was still on time and within the window that they gave me. Then, he went up there in the rain and did the job in the rain. So, I'm really happy with their service. It sure takes a lot of stress off the things for me just knowing that AHS is there. I recommended them to my son and he signed up.     For my plumbing issue, the plumbers really didn't repair anything because they said that everything was still flowing. I had to pay an extra $300 for them to look through that. They put a camera down there so that I could see. Because I keep hearing this bloop, but they said that the water was flowing. There's nothing down there, but I still don't understand why does it keep having that bloop. Because once, before, it had backed up and it came out in my shower, my tub, and the toilet. The issue is still not resolved. It's working. But the thing that I'm trying to prevent is a big massive overflow like it did before. Also, one time, I had a guy that didn't even know where the sewer thing was. He left and somebody else had to come out. But overall, the claim process of AHS has been fine.

    There was a water spot on the ceiling right below our AC unit, so we knew it was the unit leaking. We had two vendors come out and the first one was a joke, so a second one, Haskins Heating, had to come out. There were two gentlemen, and they were both professional and explained everything. They replaced a pipe in the attic and did a good job. AHS has been great, but I wrote in on the the first company and asked them not to send them out ever again.

    We had a tankless water heater that went out and they replaced it. It was pretty awesome. We've also had things like servicing for our washer and dryer. Also, when I need some repair work, I just pay a $100 deductible and AHS takes care of it for us. When we get our new house, I will be signing up again. I'd tell everybody I know who is buying a house that if you don't have AHS, you need to get it. It's very simple, quick and easy to use. I go online, I make a request and within 24 hours, I have somebody scheduling to come out. I highly recommend them to anybody.

    Our heater was not coming on and we kept hearing a noise every time we turned it on. The contractor who came did an awesome job. They went out there, looked to see what the problem was, and figured out some type of piece that went bad and they needed to replace it. They let us know that they were going to order the piece and were gonna be reaching back out to us to set up an appointment which was what they did.     The machine that pulls the chain to the garage door broke. It was being pulled, and as it was being pulled, I heard like a snap. It stopped working. We called American Home Shield and the claim process was easy. We've never had a problem with them. The contractor had come up before, so I kind of knew them. They just emailed. The technician was the same one that came when we first had issues. He was pretty sharp. He kind of gave a lot of information as far as what to do, what not to do and stuff that the homeowner can do.     My garbage disposal wasn't working. I could turn it on, but it wasn't moving. I tried to reset it but it was still not working and it was jammed. It took the repairman a lot of strength to unjam it and it's fine now. He was very efficient and mannerable. I've used American Home Shield a couple of times in the past and they went well too. One was when one of my toilets was leaking. Another one was for my garage door that wouldn't open. A repairman came and it took him two seconds to fix it. When my dryer died on me, American Home Shield replaced it too.

    Sometimes, the claims process is easy. Most of the time though, it's a problem because you end up having to have a second person come out because they don't really plan ahead of what kind of appliance that you have. So, it depends on the situation. American Home Shield should improve the transparency of what it is that they cover and don't cover. I had trouble with the coverage twice. American Home Shield doesn't replace the item with the same quality item that you have. They replace it with the cheapest quality item of that sort. If you had a 12-year water heater, they'll only put in a three-year water heater. Also, they won't cover the refrigerator fully for what brand it is.

    We called in for the refrigerator. The icemaker is not working. And the dishwasher just needed to be mounted. The process was great. But the follow-through was terrible. The tech hasn't completed the work order. This was three and a half weeks. I called today to check in to see what the status was. And they had it closed down like it was completed. So, they're investigating as to what all was going on. The technician had to order a new motor for the ice machine or a new icemaker, whatever it may be. But I'm a bit worried about where it is now. If he ever did order it, do I need to wait another two weeks or what?

    Other than that, when I call, American Home Shield is great. Everybody's nice. Even the technician that came to the house was very nice. AHS just needs to check on their technicians' work through the consumer. They should have called and asked me if I was satisfied with the work that was completed, then they would have known that it has never been completed.

    Their contractor A&E Factory Service stated that they have ordered parts for my washer repair but never arrived to the appointment to look at the washer or never called to ask diagnostic questions about the problem let alone get the ordering info ie make model serial number to order parts. And had the nerve to call and say he would be there at 2pm but never arrived. Then upon my complaining, emailed a false signature that was never obtained from anyone at my home or anyone I have ever heard of. Then they ordered parts as if they came, plus rescheduled my appointment for 10/25/21 to wait for parts that again to date have not been diagnosed as needed.

    This as both companies reviews indicate is a stall and delay tactic that they are known for which equates to poor customer service and fraud. I have saved the video from my home cameras that will prove that they never came during any part of the day or night for the service appointment scheduled on 10/8/21. I am filing this complaint with all consumer reporting agencies to include the BBB immediately. They are hereby being instructed to immediately remove all charges, because they were fraudulently applied for a service they have not provided to date. Buyers beware of these two companies American Home Shield and their contractor A&E Factory Service!

    I didn't have a very good time when I called American Home Shield this time because I called in for three things in my house with the plumber, and whoever took the call didn't write the two issues down. I told the rep, “The call is being recorded, so why don't just look back on the call and you will hear me say what I needed?” But nobody did. I had to get my tub fixed so I had to pay another 75 dollars to have the man come back out. That wasn’t right. It makes you wonder if the reps just tell you that they're recording the call. Because if they recorded it, they could go back and check it, and then I had no reason to try to weasel my way to get another thing done.

    The issues were resolved. The plumber was good. I’m waiting on the paperwork now that the water bill company wanted to be verified that I had it fixed. But American Home Shield hasn't sent it. I've been with American Home Shield for years and this is the first time that I had this much problem. My money is short and the purpose of getting American Home Shield is that I wouldn't have to come out of pocket so much.

    I've had Home Shield now for two years and the experience has been that it usually takes a long time to get things fixed. For instance, the guy came out last week for the air conditioner, took a look at it, and told me I needed a part. A week later, he was back to fix it. But meanwhile, we were a week without air conditioner, and that's generally the issue. If I had called a guy directly, that would have been fixed within 48 hours or maybe even less. But when I go through Home Shield, it takes a lot longer for it to get fixed. Luckily, I have a big house, so I've got a three-zone system. However, that's the air conditioner that cools our bedroom down, so we had to find other places to sleep in the house. It was an inconvenience. But if I'm in a two-zone or one-zone house, that's miserable.

    The other issue is that when I call the customer service, I'm calling somebody who's in a call center somewhere not in this country that is registering my complaint, and that's a problem. It doesn't get done. It's always, "I'll let my supervisor know." Come on. I get the joke, right? There's no supervisor. That's just what they've been told to say. If I have to escalate a claim, that's gonna tack on. I've had to do that in the past with one of my air conditioners. That usually tacks on several days on to the project, because they tell me somebody's gonna contact me within 24 hours. But nobody gets back in touch with me in 24 hours. I've always had to call. If we could get to a 48-hour turnaround time, that would be great. With my recent claim, the plumber that came looked at the issue and let me know that it wasn't a leak, that it was more or less a caulking issue or one of my kids let the water go up too high, which was exactly what I thought the problem was.

    If you're looking to cut your costs in terms of parts and labor, go with this home warranty. But understand that by cutting your cost, it's not gonna be as convenient as picking up the phone and calling the guy that you've worked with for all these years that's gonna come and just fix it and then charge you $1,500 and then walk away. Granted, you're saving 600, $700 at the end of the day, but you're adding on several days for waiting for a part 'cause they gotta order it through American Home Shield. Then you gotta wait for the clearance. Once they get the part, they reschedule you and then they come out.

    I've been happy with American Home Shield so far. The process going through the claim is simple. You call them and they decide what kind of problem you have and charge my credit card $100. They notify a person who notifies me they’re coming out and they come out and do their job. I had a water dispenser in an icebox that was no longer working and the tech came out and investigated what was broken. He ordered the parts, which came in a few days, and he scheduled to come back out. He called me ahead of time and came back on Tuesday. Within less than an hour, he was out of there and the problem was solved.

    I've had an air conditioner problem for a couple of years and had contractors out two different times but the problem hadn't been solved. Knowing that I have a leak in the system, the tech added some Stop Leak to it and it didn’t stop it. And I was charged for the Freon which was above the cost I already pay. The next year, it came back again. So that would be something that AHS can improve on as far as how they take care of people’s AC units. But I would let people know that by having the warranty for their appliances and electronic products, they are rest assured that if problems with these products ever come up, it would be taken care of through AHS and it would keep the cost down to a minimum for repairs.

    The door was locking on the machine. It wasn’t unlocking and spinning. I called American Home Shield and their rep was very helpful. They originally wanted to give me a contractor that I didn't wanna go with because they had bad reviews. I requested Precision Appliances because I worked with them in the past and I liked their service. They're really excellent.

    It was a Friday that the claim was made and they were closed on weekends. I didn't get to speak to anybody until that Monday, which was okay. I wish, however, that they had gotten back to me a little bit quicker. In the end, I had to cancel on them because my son was sick so they had to reschedule so it all worked out. The technician asked me to do a video of the problem so I did and sent it to him. He was able to order the parts without having to come out first, which saved a lot of time. During COVID, you don't want people coming into the house. When the technician did come out, he had everything he needed. He fixed the issue and the machine has been working great. I'm pretty happy with American Home Shield so far and I would recommend them.

    I went on the site, logged in, and put in three different issues. The seal around the dishwasher was not working properly, one of the heating elements on the top of the range was out and in the oven, the convection fan was not working. Using the site isn't inconvenient. The only thing is that American Home Shield always asks me for the brand, which is something they need. I took pictures of them and saved them on my phone because I just don’t remember.

    The first company was scheduled and they couldn't come out soon enough. I contacted American Home Shield back and they scheduled someone else. The company that came out was very nice. They texted me before they came and the repair man went above and beyond. He suctioned the dishwasher drain and put down a little pad in case it was leaking. Everything is great.     I've had a couple claims for plumbing recently. The one where my faucet was leaking was great service. On the other hand, I wasn't able to have my water heater covered because it's not listed on the things that I have coverage for. I made a claim this weekend as well and had to cancel today, but that was at no fault of anyone. It just didn't work out. For the most part, American Home Shield's service has been good and I would recommend it. It's been well worth it for me. However, I had one service call where I paid the $100 fee and the repair company came out and serviced my air conditioning. I was charged quite a bit more for the service than I was expecting and I had them out twice. I sent some feedback after the service saying it was a bit more expensive than I thought it would be and I never heard anything back. The other times I've had people out though, I just paid the $100 and I've had quick and reliable service.

    The contractor was supposed to come out today but they called me back and they are coming out tomorrow morning. But the last service that I had on my refrigerator was excellent. The service person knew his stuff and was quick doing it. Hopefully, the guy coming out tomorrow would be just as efficient. The claims process with American Home Shield is simple but I live in Lake Wales now and it seems like they have a difficult time trying to find people because I'm out in the country a little bit. This plumber is coming from a long way away and I'm surprised that they couldn't find a plumber that was a lot closer to me that can do the job.     My air conditioning unit wasn't cooling and the repair company found that the Freon level was low and there was a leak. They were very professional. However, American Home Shield doesn't cover Freon and I had to pay for $1,800 out of pocket. It still wasn't cooling after that and it wasn't even very hot weather. When they came back, they found a new issue they didn't find the first time, which was funny, so I didn't call them back. We would have just paid for a new visit next summer when I needed it to cool down again. For the second time, they’ve swapped out a circuit board.

    I have four houses insured through American Home Shield and two were not until this year. My general experience with American Home Shield has been positive enough that I moved the other two to that. Two of them are rental houses, one is the house I live in and one is the house my daughter lives in. However, I feel like other than going online and asking for service, I have no way to ever call and ask a question. I can ask a question to the service provider, but I can't ask a question to American Home Shield and there had been a couple of times when I wanted to do that.

    There was one time when the furnace wasn't starting in one of my renter’s houses. I went online to try to order the service, and the only thing that I could get to go through was the change of season update on the heating system. I did that and paid the co-pay and then went back in after I did that and tried and it wanted me to do the same thing.

    I finally figured out how to undo that thing so that I could order service on the furnace. I would have loved to have gone back and say, “I'd like to undo this other request ‘cause I didn't really want to do it in the first place.” There was no way that I could figure out how to do that. I thought, “I'll just let both of them take place.” But it's things like that where if there was a customer service number where I could call and talk to somebody like you and say, “You know, I did this by accident. Could you remove it?” But I have not been able to figure out a way.

    There was one time where the air conditioning was running and it caused a water issue because the drain to drain air conditioning condensation was full. In that house, I have had that drain fixed three times by American Home Shield. Finally, the one guy that came said, “That drain is so small that you really need to put a pump in there to put a little bit more pressure on that water so that it drains out.” But American Home Shield disallowed that.

    They said, “That's an addition to the system.” Well, okay. But it's an addition to the system to keep American Home Shield from having to pay for a call after call after call. I had nobody to talk to about that. So, I ended up paying for the pump myself. ‘Cause I thought I'm not going to keep continuing to do this every time the air conditioning comes on. Other than that, I like American Home Shield. Especially for a rental house, it's great to be able to tell your renters that we have insurance on all the key factors in your house, and if there's an issue, we'll call and get a claim. That's an awesome thing. Renters like it a lot.

    I had another company for a year and I hated it. As soon as it was over, I switched it over to American Home Shield. Their methodology was that I could pick whoever I wanted for a service contractor and call them and get them there, and they could assess the problem, and then I would have to put them on the phone with that company, and then they would have to talk it through. I know people who do work because I have four houses, so I've had a lot of stuff done.

    But, the service providers hated that. They said, “So, now, I have to talk to somebody? I'm here to do work on your air conditioning and I have to sit there and talk to somebody on the phone and then wait for them while they put me on hold to figure out what they're going to cover? That's terrible.” I hated it too. It was just an awkward situation. American Home Shield is a lot better. I like the fact that the service providers seem to be able to contact American Home Shield. I just wish there was a way that I, as the homeowner, could do the same thing, like call and ask a question or a reconsideration.

    American Home Shield sent a service guy twice, and it took them four tries before they decided that the refrigerator had to be dumped. They couldn't fix it. They replaced it but not with a GE because we couldn't find a GE. The bigger the company is in terms of a home warranty, the better off you are. A small company doesn't have enough customers that they hesitate in replacing things. A big company like American Home Shield could do it easily. Once the decision is made to replace something, it will be done. They're not gonna hesitate to do it if the serviceman said that's what it is.

    However, the process is difficult because the people that you report the claim to are not the people you're going to deal with. You’re going to have a contractor who’s going to come in so there's a gap. American Home Shield doesn't have their own contractors or repair shops. They engage other people. They should scrutinize the people that they engage more and make sure that they know what they're doing.

    Some years ago, we had a plumbing company come out that turned out to be incompetent and wanted to upsell us a bunch of things. They said they have to tear out the entire shower and replace it with some cheap shower fixture. I told them not to do that. I had to run around and find the valve that they needed. When I got that, I rescheduled them to come and install it. But that's not my job. We eventually got them to do the repair that needed to be done. American Home Shield refunded the copay that we had already paid. But it was a real struggle. Recently, we had a problem with the ice maker in our refrigerator. All Valley Appliance came out and originally replaced it, and the problem didn't resolve. They had to come out again and figured out that it was the actual water valve. We've dealt with All Valley in the past and we've been very pleased with them.

    I wish American Home Shield can add an option to go online and request a specific vendor. That would be great. Nowadays, if a client wants a specific vendor, he has to call in and wait on the phone tree for a representative, which can sometimes be a lengthy process. But then when he talks to a live person, they're able to book a specific vendor for him.

    I have a 30-year-old air conditioning unit that went out last month and AHS replaced just a piece of the compressor in it. But now, the air cleaner has gone out. The air conditioning man tried to tell AHS that it’s a 30-year- old unit and they needed to go ahead and replace the whole thing. AHS used to be good but now, they piecemeal everything to pieces and I end up paying more than what they pay for everything. Also, they were gonna replace my faucet with the contractor’s $29 faucet when mine was a $300 faucet and it says it must be a light brown color. When I finally got through to the people that did the replacements, I sent her a picture of my faucet and she said there's no way they should even try to do that. They’re just ripping people off right and left. I got two things I'm getting fixed and then I’m dropping them.

    The claims process is good for the most part. But oftentimes, if someone has to pay for some of the services separately, those suppliers are very expensive and out of market. My water heater failed and the appliance service said, “There are no parts available in this unit ‘cause it’s end of life.” American Home Shield paid $500 for the hot water heater, but at the end of the day, the appliance service charged $2,000 to do the installation and some other things. They charged more than what it would have cost. I had another plumber that did the same thing for me at a different house, but that one hadn't been covered, and it was $500 less. That didn't even include the coverage that American Home Shield provided for the new water heater. The coverage seems to be good, but if you gotta have service, they’re very expensive.

    My indoor Whirlpool tub went on, but I figured out that it probably did because the cat jumped out on there and pushed the button. I didn't know why it went on by itself. I was outside and I heard this noise. And I thought, "Well, maybe it's my air conditioner." I went in and discovered it on and we are not supposed to run it without water in there.     The claim process at AHS was good. The contractor for the AC claim was very good. His service was prompt. I didn't have to chase them. They were very on time and they fixed the problem. However, sometimes the vendors that AHS hires are not doing a good job. With a previous claim, the vendors weren’t very good. They came. They said they fixed it. But they didn’t fix it. They came back in, “We didn’t fix this?” Then, there was a delay. Also, I've read the policy of AHS about air conditioning that they will be paying $10 per pound of Freon and that's ridiculous. Freon is $130 per pound and AHS is paying $10, that’s a slap in the face.

    About a week ago, we called and set up an appointment with American Home Shield for our water heater and they reached back out within 24 hours. Then, they had the contractor, Air Pro Master, out the next day. Air Pro Master first called to let us know that they were there and the tech, Javier, said that he was masked and all that business. He had been here before looking at one of our problems and I recognized him. He's very professional and by the book. He agreed that the water heater needed to be replaced because of the leaking.

    He explained to my husband how everything was going to and how it works as far as the warranty -- codes had changed and there were going to be extra charges. The company called and we made a payment over the phone. We opted to go with a little higher-end water heater so we paid the difference for that. It was fixed within four days. Then, we got paperwork from the inspector saying that they needed to inspect the work because there's a new code. We got that within a week. We're very pleased. The only thing I'm not so happy about with AHS is that they raised my rate as much as they did. Other than that, they have paid for a lot of things. I'm still gonna keep it. It's worth it.

    I called in reference to a leak within the AC unit. We had a large leak in the evaporator coil. I called American Home Shield and they sent somebody out and did the diagnosis, and quickly assigned a contractor who came to the house and looked at the problem. After I agreed to pay the fee that would not cover under my insurance, the contractor turned around and scheduled an appointment. Later on, somehow, the contractor called me and rescheduled the appointment until four days later. So, by the time that the contractor called me and scheduled an appointment, I had to wait eight days without AC, and it's in Beaumont, Texas. That's hot and humid. I had to wait from Monday to the next Monday for the contractor to send out their technician.

    On that same Monday, they called me and said, "Hey, the contractor has a family emergency," and they would like to reschedule me until Thursday. So, I got to wait until then. And I had to call AHS at least five times before they could expedite my service request. We called them because we have some kind of repair that is required. So, the least they could do is expedite the service request. I called them to get them to continue to push on the contractor that they would assign to my service request because no AC is one of the big things.

    They finally responded to my request and instead of Thursday, they were able to get the technician to come out there on Wednesday. Regardless, that was not a quick response on end and they were not supportive either because it's hard living without AC when you live in Beaumont, Texas. Also, sometimes it's hard to understand some of the people that answer the phone call. Out of those phone calls I had with them, only two were helpful. The other two just tried to answer some questions to get me off the phone call.

    We have been with American Home Shield for a long time. We had one claim this year and there wasn't much hassle. They fixed the problem, so we didn't have to worry about it. We're looking at our house right now and we're thinking about things that need to be repaired, but there are things beyond the appliance insurance. We have sliding glass doors and on one of them, the roller mechanism doesn't work anymore. We also have a doorframe that needs to be fixed. Those are not covered.

    Just as a convenience mechanism, American Home Shield should consider partnering with homeowners insurance companies. We go through Safeco and through the Safeco billing, it could be an addition, so consumers almost don't think about it. It could even be done through impound account as opposed to having to pay separately. People have different ideas in terms of the values of warranty plans, and my wife and I have a low risk tolerance. With any of these things, it's not the most convenient. There are trade-offs for everything, but there's a certain peace of mind that we're buying and that part is beneficial.

    American Home Shield sent Vate Home Improvement and they tried to replace everything, but nothing works. So, they have now replaced the oven. When we placed the claim, everybody was so busy. So, it took a while to get somebody. Then once they figured out what it was, it took a while to get the parts. When the parts came, the parts worked but it wasn't what was wrong with it. It was just a timely process.

    The technicians were very good. The first guy that came didn't do a very good job and couldn't fix them. So, he was replaced with Vate where Matt came out. He has done a very good job. We’ve had American Home Shield for the last 16 years straight, and in our last home, we had them the entire time. Although it takes time to get things done sometimes, they always take care of us. So, we appreciate the service.

    There was a problem with my breaker. I called American Home Shield and I received a text and an email stating that the contract was dispatched to Jet Electrical. I then received texts and emails regarding the appointment date after I had made it with Jet Electrical. When the electrician named Ron was on his way, I received notice that he would be arriving soon. Ron was personable and he answered my questions in layman's terms so I could understand them.     I had four service calls with American Home Shield. When Integrity came out the first time for the air conditioning unit, we didn't know which one of the drains went to which air conditioner 'cause we have two air conditioners. They cleaned out both the lines. When the second air conditioner went out, they cleaned out the line again. The problem that they described was a little bit different and that the water had collected somewhere in the system and caused something to go out. But it was the same issue. When I caught it, they came out and sucked the algae out of both of the lines. Then the next guy came out about two weeks later and did the same thing. Also, Integrity, tried to undercut American Home Shield. They came out and said, "Why don't you sign up for our service and we'll just come out and do it." American Home Shield needs to watch sometimes who their contract help is.

    I had three appliances that were broken - the icemaker, the washer, and the oven. When the technician first came out, he was able to get the icemaker working, but he said I shouldn't use it because it needed a new filter. I went and ordered new filters. When he came back the second time to fix the oven and swap out the washing machine, he was not able to replace the filter in the icemaker. It wouldn't come out. When we tried to take it out, it would leak water. I had to put in the second ticket and pay $100 for the icemaker even though the icemaker was one of the three items that was not working properly when he came here. I had to do doubled orders to get the air conditioner and my appliances fixed. He still hasn't been back out yet with my washing machine or to fix the icemaker. He's supposed to call me to set up a time, but that hasn't happened yet. I'm happy in a way, but I'm disappointed in another way because I had to do the claim twice for both systems.

    American Home Shield has been good recently. We had a toilet leak issue and we submitted a claim online. The first time the repair man came, he didn't schedule with us or even tell us he was coming. He just showed up, then he had to come back ‘cause he didn't fix it correctly the first time. Other than that, he was very professional and did a good job. The back baseboard was damaged, but we fixed it. For us, having a home warranty is helpful because my husband's gone a lot. If something breaks, it's easy for me to get help fixing it.

    We had a plumbing leak a year ago. Our home is new, but we have PEX pipes and it came through our attic into our garage. It took out a piece of the ceiling. I called for a plumber and he wasn't able to come for a week. That doesn't help in emergent situations. I almost would prefer if American Home Shield had an option where a consumer could pay more for emergency service. If the regular call fee is $100, it could be 175 if it's an emergent situation and somebody would get there within 24 hours.

    I have a cooking setup that goes in the wall as one unit, the microwave on the top and the oven on the bottom. When the microwave went out and the contractor came out, they could not get parts. It just was too old. The tech put all the pertinent information on the ticket and the model number. So, I started getting nervous because I had never had a claim, and I didn't know anything about AHS except the few things I read online. One thing led to another, and they were sending me emails that they would give me a set amount of money for me to find something. I said I can't do that so they sent me an email with pages of options.

    I sat down with a friend of mine that is very electrically savvy. We finally found what we thought would work. However, we knew that the measurements were not identical to the measurements in the wall. My friend said not to worry, that the height was the only one that was off and he could cut out the little amount in the wall to make it work. Because I didn't want the contractor to come in here and tell me they were not allowed to do any cutouts, I called C & D and talked to Chuck, the guy that did the work. He said, "No, that's fine if he wants to do that." So, my friend went ahead and cut it out for me.

    The delivery company contacted me and set up a time to bring it. I had them bring it as close to the kitchen area as I could, so they would not have to carry that thing so far. They wanted to come the next morning at 6:45 AM and they were a bit early. The tech said the cut-off saved him a world of time. They did the installation and were in and out of here in an hour and a half. The fact that they took the old units away and cleaned up after themselves, they did a wonderful job. I've already used the stove and the microwave, and everything is just fine.

    AHS told me early on when I signed up with them that I would pay $100 for someone to come in and assess a situation. If it could be repaired, they would repair it, if not, they would replace it. I have got an issue with AHS about that. I made them very aware that it stinks but they are not going to do anything about it. I had to pay almost $800 for this unit that was the only one we could find. And I paid it because I'm desperate to get it. But I don't understand why I had to pay. I was shocked to find that out. If you tell someone that you're going to replace something and their only cost will be $100 for the visit, and they're stuck holding another $800 to get the thing, that's misadvertising. If I have another situation, I'm going to ask a lot of questions before I let them come out.

    So far, I don't have any major complaints with American Home Shield. The last vendor was somewhat difficult because they didn't keep me up to date on the process and what was going on. That has not been the case with Exclusive Appliance Repair though. They kept me informed and up-to-date and we didn't have any problems with them. The first time they came out, they thought it was one issue, and they got the dishwasher working, but it only worked for a day. I was still having the same problem, so they came back out. The repair man diagnosed it and said it needed another part. We ordered it and that part was damaged, so they ordered another part. They're supposed to come out today.

    One of the first calls I made with AHS was for a plumber. I ended up canceling the order 'cause we thought we fixed it. Then a few days later, we were still having issues. I told them to make another order. The plumber in my area was on vacation, so he declined the order. I wasn't fooled or anything up until I ended up calling him the following day to follow up, to see why he hadn't called me to make an appointment.

    He said, "I'm so sorry. I'm on vacation for the next week. I cancelled the order. American Home Shield should have reached out to you to let you know that I denied it and that a new plumber needs to be assigned.” When I called in, it just said that the order was canceled. So, I had to start again a new order with a new plumber and wait 24 hours. So that was a little frustrating. But after that it was all said and done, the plumber came and took care of the issue. Also, the tech from Terminix that came recently was great. He took care of everything. We definitely have seen a decrease in the bugs.

    When the tech T Mayes Plumbing and Heating looked at my garbage disposal, he found a bottle cap from a soda container. He said that was stopping the water from draining so he pulled the bottle cap out. After he pulled that out, he then said the garbage disposal has a leak in it. But it didn't have a leak in it before he came. It never leaked in my cabinet. He blamed the damage on the bottle cap. I went to Home Depot and I took the bottle cap to them. When I showed the Home Depot rep, the bottle cap was not damaged and he said a bottle cap cannot make a hole. For the contractor to say that it's not normal wear and tear is a lie because the bottle cap was not the thing that damaged the garbage disposal. I'm very unhappy with that.

    The second item was inside the bathroom. The same tech was supposed to fix the hot and cold water dispensers where water was draining down slow. When he looked at the twin sink, the stoppers were already pulled out. That was pulled out from both sinks because they asked me if I had it and they told me to put that on the counter when the man came. He looked at the stopper and down the bottom of the stopper is like a metal loop that's attached to the metal part of the end of the stopper. He said that some kind of piece had broken off. He went in his truck, came back, and he put on a plastic ring. Once he put that plastic ring and attached it to the stopper, he went under the sink and he did something and pulled down. That was fixed and then, he went to the second one.

    He went to put the ring on it too but he stopped, looked inside, and said there was some kind of metal cup covering that's stopping the water from going inside the sink. He attempted to use pliers to pull it up but he couldn't. I asked how could he clarify something that he cannot see. I got a long metal stick and I told him to hit it against the foreign object inside to determine. He did and it was not metal. He tried to lift it up and he said that he could not lift it up so he left that unfixed.

    When he left, I was able to pull out the foreign object and saw that it was a lotion top. I called that same evening and I told them what the foreign object was and I took a picture of that. I asked what they were going to do then. Maybe they will figure out with some other kind of equipment why the water is stopping. The tech was a nice guy and he tried to the best of his skills. But I'm not pleased.

    I don't like Home Shield at all. One time, they sent handymen to restructure my porch but the job wasn't right and I was not satisfied with what went on. Also, four months ago, I looked at my account. They automatically take 49.99 out of my account and then I saw a 58.90-something. I called Home Shield and asked why they were taking more money. They told me that they renewed my account. I didn't know anything about it. I didn't sign anything. As soon as I can get away, I'm going to get away because I know this is not right.

    I like American Home Shield. Right now, I'm having a little bit of a wait time on an electrician to complete a job. It was supposed to be approved through American Home Shield. The electrician had one idea for getting something done when he showed up, and it wasn't quite what we had spoken about initially. Apparently, there was some miscommunication there so he didn't do the job that he came to do. He needed to go and rewrite the order up for American Home Shield for what he told me was about a two-and-a-half hour more labor bill to submit and also more supplies.

    My initial call was that the flood lights in my backyard stopped working. So to have electrical coverage through American Home Shield, they dispatched Herring Electric. A representative came out, Mark, saw the job, and took photos of the flood lights that had the wiring that needed exchanging. When he left, the company representative, Simone, called to say the parts were in for the job. They scheduled me for a following Monday.

    When he came, he ascertained what needed to be done. Then when he came just the other day, he only came with one floodlight. He didn't come with equipment to change the floodlights out along the edge of the garage in the backyard where I need lit up at nighttime for my own safety around here. He was only going to put a light coming out of where the switch wire came up out of the house. He left and I did call them and spoke with Simone to ask any update, and she checked on it, and apparently, it's still in the process of getting okayed through American Home Shield.

    Overall, I've been very pleased. I was an American Home Shield customer back in the late 90s at a home my husband and I were living in, and I loved it then. Then I started it up again now at the house that I'm renting because I have a little bit more money each month now so I was able to pay for the coverage around here. This was an older home and things break down, so I've been really pleased with the coverage.

    I have some issues sometimes with the website. When I get online to do a service request, there are two addresses that come up. When I try to submit the request once I'm logged in, it doesn't even allow me to submit the request. I have to go to the main AHS.com website and submit my service request that way then put in my phone number. That's how they're able to pull up my account.

    I submitted a service request because I saw two spots on my ceiling in my kitchen. Patriot Plumbing came in today and took a look in the bathroom in the master bedroom and noticed that the caulking from the window seal was separated from the shower. You can see the cracks in the caulking and in the sealant area of the shower and the window area. There was water standing on the area by the window. They're friendly and informative. They explained things that I needed to know and told me some things that I didn't know that I should have known from the first plumber that came.

    I had some toilet issues a couple weeks ago and Patriot Plumbing also came. When they fixed the toilet, they scratched it at the bottom and didn't seem too apologetic about that. I don't like my toilet being scratched up but as far as them getting the job done, they did it. I asked if I needed to get a new toilet because I'm still having the issue though not as frequent as I was having. They said, “You can and you can install it yourself, or we can install it.”

    Customer service requires some improvement. If American Home Shield's representative makes a mistake, they should stand up behind them appropriately. When I called in because I could not find the information online, I said, "I have a saltwater pool, and I want to make sure that all of my equipment is covered for my saltwater swimming pool." If they send me something that says that my swimming pool was covered, then I believe my swimming pool was covered. One year later, I said, "There's a problem with the electronics for the saltwater conversion into chlorine and somebody had told me I'm covered." They shouldn't show me that there's a possible add-on because the way the contract is written is, "This is a possible add-on." I expected it added it on.

    They don't show every possible add-on that I have as a separate item, so they shouldn't expect me to read it as a separate and different item. Also, the call in submission process is easy but sometimes does not get translated well. Going to their site and doing it there may be a little harder because I'm not sure if I'm getting what I'm meaning to be getting because of the way that it automatically assumes what I'm talking about. On a different note, the repair man from ABNation was great. He was knowledgeable and not impatient with me. I had lots of questions, and he explained to me what I could do differently. He was honest about the fact that I may get a rebuilt part. As long as people stand behind their work, there's nothing wrong with a rebuilt part.

    I had two toilets that were not flushing right. My water heater was also leaking. I submitted a claim with AHS. The website was okay. But I was trying to find a way to report a faucet for my water dispenser on my refrigerator. I couldn't figure out how to put that claim in. I didn't see anything in there as far as plumbing for that. Other than that, I haven't had a problem at all with their site.

    When I submitted a claim, I received who was coming and a picture of the technician. The service provided by the techs was great, too. They were very professional, courteous and helpful. On the one toilet, they replaced the gaskets that needed to be replaced. On the other toilet, they replaced a part of the flushing mechanism that was sticking. On the water heater, they recommended to the company that it'd be replaced. Everything is operating perfectly. I've had AHS since the end of July. Their response has been very timely and they fixed every issue that I've had. I generally receive a response within 24 to 48 hours. The people they send out are very professional, too.     I contacted AHS for a dishwasher and the cap that was leaking water. The techs diagnosed it and the problem with it was that the lid was missing. So, it was a pre-existing problem because the lid was missing. It wasn't like the lid was there and they could just tighten it. So, I thought AHS weren't going to pay for this and that they wouldn't charge either because it was a pre-existing problem. But they charged me 150 for that diagnosis. They said that they replaced my lid anyway, but they put in a ring seal to the door. The thing is, I repaired it before they repaired it. I put a lid on it and it stopped the leak. Then, the techs came back and said that they did it again. But I don't know if they really did or not.

    I had another claim after this one that I was satisfied with partially. I asked them to help me fix both bathrooms that had a sink faucet issue, which needed to be tightened. But when they came by, they saw that it was only one faucet in only one bathroom. I also only requested for one bathroom, not two, but I meant to request for two. So, if they could please come back for a second one and they said they couldn't add anything. I wish they just did the other faucet for the other bathroom as they just had to tighten it. But they said it wasn't requested. What I'll do from now on is add everything but that's frustrating.

    American Home Shield's services are all right but the contractors aren't very good. One just caused $50,000 worth of damage to my house trying to fix the refrigerator. The tech did something to the waterline that goes to the refrigerator for ice and caused a flood. Now, my entire house needs to be refloored just for trying to fix my refrigerator. They took no responsibility for it, but my refrigerator never leaked until he left. Aside from that, we also had a guy who came and fixed our air conditioner problem. The techs all seem to show up in a Honda Accord with no work checks and they don't really seem like professional contractors.

    We had an issue with our pool pump, and the tech came out pretty quickly. But what was bothersome is that he didn't have a lot of things with him. So he had to come back a couple of times. The first time he came out, he replaced the pool pump, but he didn't have the pool pump with him. He came out again a couple days later. The contracted company is based in Orlando, and we are in Saint Augustine, which is about a two-hour drive one way. We had to call the tech back because we were still getting air bubbles coming out of our pool. So he came back and looked at it and determined that we needed to have the O-rings replaced, which he didn't have on his truck. So he had to come out again.

    We still have the bubbles, but the tech thinks it has something to do with underground plumbing, which is not covered by AHS. But the tech was great. I was just surprised that he didn't carry typical things, especially when I told them on the phone what was going on, you would have thought that they would have had a motor ready to go. But overall, we're very happy with AHS because we continue to use them year after year. The technicians they sent out are always great. The coverage is a little sketchy sometimes. But you just need to read the super small print.

    There was a problem with the dryer and the contractor fixed it the same day they came. Everything’s wonderful. I’ve had American Home Shield since 2011 and I like that generally, they fix things that are fixable. But I don't like the things that are not so readily fixable. While the plan is supposed to help cover the replacement of the item, it hasn't panned out that way for me. Inevitably, I had to replace the item because the repair would be done and then a few days later, it would break down. Then, I'd get bureaucratic responses.

    I have two policies for two different properties and the policy for my other property is a bit more comprehensive than what I have here with my primary residence, in that it also covers some plumbing issues. When I tried to get the same for where I live, I was told I could not until the life of the policy that I currently have was coming to an end. I asked if it could be placed on a calendar so someone might remind me. I'm on automatic billing so it just gets renewed and it has been renewed twice now without the upgrade that I wanted happening. So, that's a little frustrating.

    When we first bought our home in 2012, calling to make an appointment was horrendous. It took at least an hour and a half. So nine years ago, I had to call, I was put on hold forever. They ask for the model number of whatever device I was talking about. And as soon as I gave it to them, they would identify it. It's Sears or LG or whatever. They throw me into a call to Sears or somebody else and I would be on call forever and ever, and they go a week. They get us through to Sears or whoever, and Sears would go, "We can't come fix it. You're doing it under American Home Shield.” And I would go, “Which is what I tried to tell them. But as soon as I told them it was a Sears’ product, they threw me to you." So it was horrendous. It used to take hours. It was very frustrating.

    Now you can do it online and get things set up very quickly for that first trip to come out and troubleshoot what the problem is. But there are some people who are not computer savvy and the elderly and they can't use the online. We've switched from doing it by phone by doing it online. But if AHS still does it by phone, I hope they have improved it in the past nine years.

    The recent tech was great. I had not known I needed to unload the freezer drawer for her to replace the motor and thing, but she helped me with that. We grabbed everything, put it in boxes fast. And she had it done in no time. It was great. American Home Shield is like insurance, so you pay for it every year or for years in advance. And when something goes wrong with an appliance in your home they send someone out to check it out. And that usually costs you. So that's a $75 charge. And they tell you what's wrong and what needs to be done.

    They can't do the repair right then generally, whether it's going to take installation, repair, parts replacement, whatever. They tell you there. And they get back to you shortly with an estimated time that they will come and estimated price of what it will be. Most parts that we've had to have replaced have been replaced. We haven't had to pay for those. Get American Home Shield. As a tradition here, kind of a housewarming present, is when you buy a place your real estate agent buys your first year of coverage with them and that's a nice thing. It introduces you to them and it makes you feel safe about everything in your house because everything is so new.

    We had a refrigerator that quit working. The tech came out and fixed it. He put a relay in it then the freezer worked well, but the refrigerator part wouldn’t cool down at all. We called him back up before the month was up and he came back out and looked at it. He tore some stuff apart and the parts in the back were all froze up solid where they weren't working right. There weren't any parts available, so he called the company and they said AHS would replace the refrigerator.

    Submitting the claim for this repair with AHS wasn't hard. We just called them then they called whoever they were going to have to come and fix it. But initially, it was a couple weeks before the tech got here to look at the refrigerator because they were backed up with stuff to do. And the second time, he was here within a week. The biggest thing was getting everything straightened out and getting the new refrigerator. They said they could give us a card to go get one at Lowe's or someplace and the closest one was about 100 miles. They also said they'd allow me so much money, then I’d just go buy one. So, we went and bought one. Then we sent them a copy of the bill. And because the refrigerator is about 350 more than what they gave me, I paid the difference and they sent me a check here a couple weeks ago for what they allowed me on the old refrigerator.

    All in all, my experience with AHS depends on what issue I have with an appliance and what time of the year it it. If it was something with heating and it's cold out, then you'd want to see something get fixed a little quicker. When they have a certain party go fix stuff, they've got so many things they got to do. So, they got to do an order as the calls come and with some things, you got to wait a little while to get them done. Other than that, I'd recommend AHS when you got appliances that are getting older. Plus, it costs a lot more money to replace stuff nowadays than it did 10 years ago. If a refrigerator takes a crap and a new refrigerator’s anywhere from 1,000 to $3,000, depending what type you have, when somebody’s retired or on a fixed income, you don't just go write out a check for something every day when you need something.

    I've had American Home Shield since 2004. At the beginning, they were super good, but these last two years have not been so good. I'm sure it has to do more with the vendor than with the insurance, but the quality of service has gone way down. It's not the other quality where it would get done and when I try contacting the repair people, they don't call me back.

    This last claim, I requested service for a garage door opener. Something happened to it and the guy went out there and told me it would be $850 out of my pocket. I said, "What are you talking about?" He said, "The insurance doesn't cover this part." I said, "What are you talking about, the insurance doesn’t cover it? It covers everything. It covers the motor and everything." He said, "It doesn't cover the railing. It will be $850." That was a lie because I have a renter that got her cousin's nephew that works at a garage door company. He went out there and said, "It's just a motherboard. All I did was swap it out." He charged $100 for that, which is nothing. This other dude said that I had to do this other stuff for $850. I didn't even end up calling American Home Shield back because I'm so busy.

    On the other hand, the company that came out for my electrical claim was awesome. They went out there and my tenant was very happy with them. They fixed the issue, and it was just the $75 copay. Overall, I would still recommend American Home Shield. It has always been beneficial for me because my house is a rental property. The $75 that we paid in the past to get service done, like unplugging the sink or the garbage disposal not working and then replacing it, it's really good.

    I was very satisfied with the last guy who did the AC unit. Every time we turned it on, it made a loud noise. As soon as he heard it, he knew exactly what it was. I like the way he handled it. He asked my husband what was going on with it. My husband told him when he turned it on, it would make a lot of noise to where the neighbors would come and tell us about it. We'd have to shut off so it was kinda hot in here. He went around, looked at it and asked what kind of noise. My husband described what kind of noise it was. He went around there and said the blower motor had gone out. He replaced the blower motor, had us sign something and was on to the next. He didn't try to sell us anything.

    There was another company that American Home Shield sent out that was really good, too. But the past experience has been horrible. My husband and I closed on our home in 2016 with American Home Shield as our home warranty and I didn't start using them until 2019. One company came out and as soon as they came in the door, they were trying to sell me something. I don't want to be sold anything. I want them to fix whatever can be fixed, and if not, replace it like they promised to do.

    When our hot water heater went out, we called and American Home Shield sent out a company called Island Mann who told us that the part costs just as much as the hot water heater. They were gonna have to replace it. I thought I would get something new for change instead of something pieced together. The technician told me our portion was $1,052. It didn't make sense to pay $1,050 for a hot water heater when I've already paid for the service call instead of me hiring someone to put a hot water heater in for cheaper than that. That's the kind of stuff that makes me want to cancel with American Home Shield.

    I asked the lady the other day that I talked to at American Home Shield if they give some type of referral fee because I'd heard there was another company that gave it. She said she didn't know. I asked her, "Can you put me on hold and find out from someone?” I also asked if she could you give me a number that I could call and find out since it was too much trouble for her to go an extra step to find out. She gave me a number to their corporate office but something was going on that day to where the recorded message repeatedly just kept saying the same thing over and over.

    The customer service when you call, half of the time, you're talking to someone overseas and you can't understand what they're saying. They can't understand you either. When I asked a question about the contract, they had to pull the contract and read it. I understand that but they were reading it to where it was not legible. I couldn't understand from the words that they were mouthing. It's hit or miss whether you're gonna end up with someone that speaks English and I've had some of them to be a little nasty too to me.

    City First Electric came to check out an electrical issue that I was having, in which my washer and dryer as well as my air conditioner went out. When I called American Home Shield, it went through the comp system at first and then, the prompt system notified me that my account was inactive, which couldn’t be right. So, I went through the option to get to alive person and I was able to speak to somebody. I very much appreciated the communication with AHS. They were very communicative about when the contractor was going to be here and how long to expect that.

    The tech called me the day of the repair and said he wanted to come a little early, which was fine and appreciated. When he came, he was informative and I liked him very much. He was able to tell me what my issue was and he explained it in a way that I understood. He was very thorough and I very much enjoyed having him service my home although there wasn’t anything he could do. We recently had solar put in and the solar people put their breaker on my main panel instead of a sub panel. And because my home is older, it was overriding my circuit. The problem was identified and I'm now having to go through different channels to get it rectified.

    The repair is gonna help in the future a lot because I now understand what the issue is and we'll be able to get it fixed hopefully soon. It now falls to a different company since they were the ones that caused the issue but it's going to improve everything. I'm now going to get a full electrical upgrade so everything on my home is going to run even better. I would recommend AHS. They were very helpful and prompt in getting somebody out to me and the people that they sent were very professional.

    The agent from AHS was good and very helpful when I submitted a claim for some outlets. However, the contractor never came out. I had to keep on calling American Home Shield back to get another contractor. Arm Electric came out and they were very professional. The tech was saying that another line need to run, another outlet on the outside. But American Home Shield will not cover that. Then when they checked my outlets, they said my outlets were bad. So they tested them and they changed them out. They're operating well, but I might still gonna have to have another outlet ran on the outside. I haven't had any problem with American Home Shield. Any problem that I had that they cover, they did.

    American Home Shield could be a little more meticulous about following up with the customers and making sure that was done right. I got a problem where the contractor had to come at least six times until the problem got fixed. In the beginning, the guy thought the AC was wrong, so he fixed it and went away. He didn't even test. Then it broke again the next day and it took me four weeks. I was out but I followed up with him after I was back and I didn't get a callback, and nobody cared. I kept following up and eventually, he picked up my phone and then he came back and fixed something else, and it broke again.

    My AC is old but it works and it costs a lot to get a new one, so I don't want to do it, and I just bought this house. I also bought such protection so that if there are certain components that fail, they can come out and change it. I'm not asking them to replace this entire equipment. But at least the vendor doesn't have to show six times to fix a nonworking AC. If it was the motor that was bad the first time, they should have known that. If there is a capacitor that was bad, they shouldn't have to fix the AC to fix the capacitor.

    I had to Google and learn every single aspect of a working AC to tell the guy what he is supposed to do. I told him, “Did you check stage one? Did you check stage two? Did you run a test?” Then he's not doing it by himself. He doesn't know the technical details that the AC unit is separate, the blower is separate. I had to learn the hard way to make things clear to him. I am the one who's constantly on their backs in order to get stuff done. Everything was professional. Nobody lost patience. I was the one who lost patience at the end. Then they were nice enough to say that I didn't have to pay every time they showed up. It’s just 75 bucks.

    They did the things that were supposed to be done. However, there could be a little more foresight into what could be wrong. There should be more initiative and they should fix the problem in the least amount of time. Sometimes these guys that pick up the call don't understand the gravity of the problem from a consumer standpoint. Right now the AC is not working and that's fine. I'll turn on the fan. But if the furnace is not working, then I need to buy a space heater and it doesn't work everywhere, so don't put me in that position.

    The second important aspect is that there's a lack of documentation between one person to the next, so what one person had documented, the other person could not replicate. I had to repeat myself again and again. The last aspect is they expect you to give feedback. In the immediate call as it's handled, you would give good feedback. But when both the contractor and the customer service person, you would give a five star feedback, so they could come back and say, “The guy gave me a 5 star feedback.” But you have to understand that it's point in time. There were issues which I got frustrated about, but that doesn't mean the company is bad.

    The repair company came out to install a thermostat, but suddenly, the unit was not working right. I called them up, and they said they'll come out today to readjust it again. Last week, the contractor was ready to come, and I was out of town. I just got back last night, so I told them to come Monday. They couldn't be here Wednesday, when I called them. They bought an appliance Monday and the guy said, "Well, I'm going away Wednesday, so don't worry about it till next week." It's not very important. Some of these companies American Home Shield has contracted with are very good about it.

    American Home Shield is a really good company and we're happy. Whenever we need it, they're there, and I don't have to come look at yellow pages. It's less headache. I keep it just in case and I've had it for so long. My friend told me, "You don't need that," but then, I feel a sense of security that when I'm away, at least my family can call quick, not looking for other companies. It's worth paying $100. At least they're a good service and they can arrange to send somebody quick, sometimes two days. I told my brother-in-law to sign up with them, and he did a few years back.

    I've been happy with AHS. I bought it in July and it took effect on August 1st. We had them out twice. We have an on-demand hot water heater. You get in and within two minutes, you're taking an ice-cold shower. The guy was really neat. He came out and he explained it to us. He said, “Nobody told you you got to service them every year?” I said, “No.” He told us how to go about it, and so we did and got it fixed already. Then my refrigerator's icemaker quit out of the blue. They came out and they saw where it was leaking and they said, “You have to have a new icemaker.”

    I've loved everybody they’ve sent out. They were very knowledgeable. The guy that came out for the hot water heater was like, “It’s gonna be expensive to have it cleaned.” He said like 400 something but it ended up being 225. I even called back and said, “Are you sure you're going to be doing this?” They said, “Yes.” It really worked out so I'm very pleased. Having AHS is the best thing you can do for your money.

    American Home Shield has kept their promises. What they said they were going to do, they've done. My most recent request for service was for my heater and my washing machine. The heater was taken care of very promptly. They were very nice people, did a great job, and I was very happy with it. For the washing machine, the repair man came out, discovered what was wrong and ordered the parts. He told me the parts would come in and just save them. The company was supposed to send somebody out today, and no one has arrived yet. The time was between 1:00 and 5:00. The other time, they called to make sure I was here and that they were supposed to come. I haven't heard anything from them and it's almost 3 o'clock. Hopefully, they will arrive by 5:00.

    I also had an issue once with my refrigerator at the very beginning of COVID and a man came out to fix it. He said it needed a certain part, and he'd get back to me, but he never did. I had his phone number from the company he worked for, and I was told, "Oh, we don't do American Home Shield products anymore." I paid $75, which is my fee for them to come out, and he didn't fix the refrigerator. That was April of last year. Otherwise, I'm very happy with American Home Shield. I tried calling them back about the fact that he said he no longer works for American Home Shield. I said, "That's not fair. You received my $75 and did nothing for it," but when I called back, I was put on hold for a couple of hours, and I finally gave up. I've been on the phone for up to two hours for people to just ask a question about something. Otherwise, there are no problems when I'm calling in to make an appointment.

    The drain in the shower was backed up. I just called and told American Home Shield there was a problem. The plumber they referred me to was fantastic. Their secretary was nice. I was freaking out because water was coming through my second story. She was super compassionate and great about trying to get me squeezed in. I also had three repairs with the refrigerator and a repair with the stove. I was frustrated about the refrigerator because the contractor came out three times but it still was not fixed.     I've used American Home Shield twice. I used them for a leaky pipe once. My son bumped into the pipe in the basement and ever since there was a little drip. That was something minor. But because I don't know what I was doing or looking at, I called AHS for that. We also We had a pipe that was leaking in the basement, and it turned out it was from the bathtub above.

    The website could have been a bit more specific, because I had to put in for plumbing, but something else. I'm not a plumber, so I didn't know what they were asking me. I just had a leaky pipe. And it wasn't very clear. So, I just said I need a plumber. And I had to guess with something else. But they called me, and I told them what was going on. The tech came right out and was on time. But it was nothing that he could fix because it turned out it wasn't actually the pipe leaking. He found that the caulk had just worn out around the tub. And because of that, when the shower was on, water was running down. So, he said that's normal wear and tear. And due to that, that was not included in the warranty, which is fine. I understood that. So, he just told us that we could buy the caulk and put it on there. He asked did I have anything else I wanted him to look at while I was there too. So, he was nice.

    American Home Shield has been fine with me. That's why I'm still carrying it. When I call, they have somebody come out right away. I get the number of whoever is coming out. I've heard other people say it has been seven days, five days for AHS to get anybody. But not me. Smokey’s Garage Door recently came out to my house. They said it was just the wear and tear of the door, so it would make a lot of noise. But they've been servicing my garage door since 2015, so I wanted them to come out and let me know for sure. I have recommended AHS to other people where I work and they have gotten them.

    I woke up in the middle of the night and wondered about my AC going out. The repair man came out, checked the unit in the back, checked the front and changed out a part.     Silver Eagle Plumbing is fine. I got a letter that I opened yesterday that was telling me my fee is due, and that AHS cannot grant a waiver. I called because I wanted to know who said that. I never requested a waiver for fees. All I wanted was a copy of what AHS had received for what the $605 was. The first person I spoke to said, “Ms. **, I can send that over to you.” I waited and waited and it never came. So, I called back and got a gentleman and there was a serious language barrier. Everything I said, he was doing the opposite. I said, “I'm not calling to check on the service. I've had this service. I need a copy of the breakdown so that I can see exactly what the $605 is.” It was a nightmare. After about 12 minutes, I just said, “Thank you. I’ll call back later.”

    I did call back later. I spoke to a lady and she said, “Ms. **, all you have to do is call Silver Eagle and tell them that you're going to accept the non-covered charges, and they will set an appointment for you." I said, “I've been calling them, but they've been so busy that they were shorthanded. They hadn’t called me back.” So, I called and they're supposed to come today to get the payment, and that they would be here tomorrow.

    The repair was for the water heater. When they came to inspect the furnace, he noticed that the water heater was leaking. So, I called them back because they had been here the week before to fix the plumbing upstairs. When he came, he said, “Ms. **, I'm sorry, we can't save your water heater. Most of the time, these days, they only give you 8 to 10 years, and you got this in 2011 or 2010, so you're right there." I said, “Okay.” He said, “It's gonna be an out-of-pocket expense. I got to see how much is yours and how much is going to be American Home Shield’s.” Then, I got the email saying to call American Home Shield because not all of my water heater was covered. That was what I did.

    Overall, I don't have any problem or issue with Silver Eagle. They've been great the two times that they’ve been to my home. They're going to be here tomorrow to put in the new water heater. He went over everything with me the same way that the first lady had done, explaining that because my water heater was installed over 10 years ago, the codes for the current water heaters are different. So, I need to pay for the code permit, the code inspector, and getting all new piping in that area so that it would be compatible with the new water heater that they're going to put in.

    I'm very happy with American Home Shield. The first time the tech came out, for some reason, someone hadn’t processed the whole request to look at both bathrooms. So, I showed him my requests in email from American Home Shield that showed both of the toilets on there. He was like, “Ms. **, thank you. I'm not calling you a liar.” “I understand. People probably try to get over on you on a regular basis.” He said, “They do.” My upstairs toilet was fixed the same day. He said there really wasn't anything wrong with my downstairs toilet, but he replaced some small pieces. When he was done, he said, “If you need anything else, call me." He was here early, and he called and asked if it was okay.

    Our oven coil had a hot spot. It wasn't completing the circuit, it wasn't warming. In the end, the repair people had to replace the oven coil. I've had two other claims before that went a lot smoother than this one because this claim was contracted out to somebody who I got an email saying that they would call to schedule and they didn't. I called them and there was a 40-minute hold. After I sat on hold for a while, they called me back and then hung up on me by mistake. I called back again and left a message. Two weeks into having the open claim, I finally called back to American Home Shield and asked how to get ahold of them. I was reassigned with the second company, KN, and they were awesome.

    Last year I had issues. I have a drain that is built into the cement that the pipe from the air conditioning runs into for the condensation. A drain pipe was filling up instead of draining out and it was flooding my garage. So, I called, they came out and fixed it for a day but it didn't fix it. Around the wintertime, it was very rough, waiting and having to get some things together. I had a hose hooked up from the condensation pipe running out the front of my garage for most of the summer. But it started to leak around. At that time, I had a slow drain in my kitchen sink on the side where my garbage disposal was. So, I called and placed an order for the air conditioning and plumbing. People said they would be there but didn't show up. This time around, I got calls within 24 hours for both people. They both set up time, came out when they said they would, and were friendly. So, this is 100 times better. Both people were great and fast and both problems were fixed.

    The first year, the warranty came with when I bought the house. It was in the contract. But I'm a single mom just recently separated, full-time nurse. So, I went ahead and renewed it myself. It's easier to come up with that $75 if something breaks than it is for me to try and come up with that copayment to fix whatever may or may not be broken.

    The website of AHS was fairly easy to use. I submitted a claim for my dishwasher and I got notified of the name of the contractor. The service tech that came was excellent. He showed me everything he did. He explained everything in detail to what he did to fix the problem. Everything works fine now. However, I have another claim in with AHS right now and it's taken them a month. They still haven't contacted me about what's going on. I’m very dissatisfied. It's almost to the point where I'm about to get a lawyer and start lawsuit issues.

    There's not a contractor in my area and it took them two weeks to tell me that there wasn't a contractor in my area. The website took 24 to 48 hours. Once they notified me of that and they gave me my authorization number, I found my own contractor. Had him come out, take pictures, write the report up and submit it. Now, they're fighting the contractor, saying that the estimate to replace the part is too much. So I'm going on a month now without an air conditioner or a heater in my house. Their customer service isn’t friendly. Their supervisors don't call you back. They're just not a good company.

    The first time a contractor came out for a leak in our dishwasher, they found something, screwed it back on but that didn't work. It popped back off some times after running it. We've always been renters and as soon as we bought the house, I told my husband we need to get a home warranty. It's important and we've used it twice since we've had the house.     I just call American Home Shield, tell them what my problem is, and they refer a company to me. The company calls and we set up a schedule. They had to do some replacement stuff for some plumbing work but they replaced it with substandard parts. Now my bathrooms look like they are gas station bathrooms because they have this very cheap silver handle. My handles were all white, like my toilets. But I wasn't here at the time. I would not have allowed that to happen. Now that I got these ridiculously cheap handles, any time they come to service this, they will give me that cheap handle again and say, “Well, we’re replacing what you had.”

    Second occurrence that this happened, I had a garbage disposal replaced. Same situation. My son was here. He didn't know any better. So, they replaced my unit with a lesser-quality unit. So any time there is anything in my garbage disposal, I have to turn it on. A grain of salt and I have to turn it on. Yes the contractor will replace things, but you have to make sure that they are replacing it for something in kind. Because once they put something substandard in it, they will happily come out and replace it with another substandard part. So, I have two components in my house that are not to the standard of what it was that they replaced. Other than that, I would recommend AC Overhead Garage Door Company's tech to anyone. And if I ever have to be serviced by them again, I would want that same specific person.

    I've had an issue with one particular service contractor company. I got ahold of the customer support system twice. It was a little difficult to manage. They just repeated what the last person said. It was annoying, but I just took it as whatever. Recently, I found out my roof was leaking. I had the top-tier plan that had the roof repairs with American Home Shield. I just put in a request for it online and that was that. I looked the contractor up before they showed up, who they were and everything, as soon as I got assigned them. And I was concerned after doing it because all the reviews that I saw, and many of them mentioned AHS as well, were bad. They described that this contractor would not do service if it was under this warranty because he wasn't getting paid. That made me wary to it.

    But I called them, left a message for them that I need service. And the man who called me to schedule the appointment was incredibly polite. He scheduled it two days later. Two workers showed up that day. They weren't necessarily the most eloquent, and they didn't explain too well what they were doing, but they did the work. Within a half hour after they left, the same woman who scheduled it with me called me back and made sure to explain what was done. She was very thorough. I was satisfied with what she told me.

The company American Home Shield recommended came out and discovered where the leak was. They were helpful and responsive, which is good. John was the repair guy and he fixed it, so I was happy. With American Home Shield though, sometimes it's a hit-and-miss and to the point where I was contemplating canceling my service. On their response time, I live in LA County in Bellflower, and they were sending me someone who wasn't close by. That doesn't work for me.

    Another thing is, when they're selling policies, they need to go through what's not covered. For example, I called them for my dishwasher last year, and they said, “Oh, well, it's not covered,” or, “The part is so old.” I ended up telling them, “I'm paying you $100 to come out and you still can't fix it.” I felt like I was being bamboozled, but they refunded me, which was great. However, I don't have $100 to give every time something happens.

    I had a refrigerator in the garage that wasn't covered and I told the guy, “I could have easily moved it into my house, into the kitchen, and put it there, and took the other one out. But I’m very honest." I said, “That would have been helpful, let's say, if your agent would’ve said, ‘Hey, in order to cover everything including your little freezer in the garage, we need to add that.’” Other than that, I have no problem with American Home Shield. So far, so good.

    The downstairs air conditioner was not working. I first reported it wasn't working back in July so I called AHS because I was confused. The first claim was not that long ago. Calling was relatively easy and I was surprised because I've tried to call before and I was on hold forever. But this time, somebody answered the phone and was extremely helpful. Then, I got an email about who the contractor would be, their phone number, and that they would be contacting me. G & W Services' tech came out and checked the outside and inside units. Then, he came back saying he needed to go look at something else. He went back outside and then he came back in to report that it was some kind of a board. He said he would have to follow up with AHS and get back to me.

    The AC wasn't cooling and the tech from R Harris put in a couple of pounds of Freon. Three days later, my daughter said it wasn't working so I placed another service call. They came out, they did something, and four days later, it wasn't working again. I placed another service call and the tech came out and told my husband he was going to condemn the evaporator coil. My husband questioned that and the tech said if we had the Platinum, I would be able to do it at no charge.

    He also said that we don't have a disconnect valve or something and that we would have to bring it up to code. He said he couldn't do anything without doing that and that he doesn't know what we're going to have to pay because we don't have the Platinum. But we do have the Platinum Shield. He did the repair and put a pound and a half of Freon again. Since that last visit, the AC is kicking on and kicking off like it used to and we've had no issues with it whatsoever. I'm very pleased with American Home Shield.

    The door on the microwave was off and apparently, there was some kind of issue with that. AHS replaced the microwave and we've not had any problems since then. We had somebody come out before and do it but that guy said that he couldn't find any problems. When this other service guy came out, we showed him the microwave first. If we run the microwave too long, everything was blacking out. Instantly, he said what the problem was and took care of it. There was a time when a company was supposed to come out and my husband was very upset with them. He said he didn't want them back. AHS took care of that and sent somebody else.

    I have issues with my refrigerator, issues with my microwave, and issues with my oven. We're waiting on the refrigerator parts. The microwave situation’s done and the oven’s almost done. All in all, the claim process with AHS has been good. But I have to be aware of what they have on appliance replacements, or else they would downgrade it to things that are not comparable items with fewer features.

    AHS needs to make sure that they're comparing like features to like features. It seemed to me to be a default to drop to something that's lesser. With all the information that's out there and model numbers where they can look everything up, that it should be straightforward. It shouldn't require the consumer to have to sit there and say, “This is not the same.”

    Fortunately, this time around, I had an associate that was aware, on top of things and knowledgeable and said, “You're right. That's not comparable. Let’s skip this change.” So, it wasn't that hard. But I've had issues with American Home Shield in the past on that type of stuff. We were literally having to read the contract to the person on the phone that was denying what the contract said. I felt like that's an industry-wide thing, so I just had to deal with it. But I really shouldn't have to put that extra level of effort to watch out for myself. But every time I've made a phone call, which has been a lot lately, every single employee I've talked with on the phone has been incredibly courteous, polite, professional and that's quite refreshing. The professionalism, in general, of the staff has actually improved compared to past years on some things.

    All my contacts this year were different issues. It just happened to be a whole bunch of things that came up, so I've got a bunch of service calls. But at least on the phone call process, the website process, everything has been very easy. The employees have all been very easy to deal with. The only complaint is really on the appliance replacement process. I'm not sure that it's exactly fair on replacing that appliance to sit there and say, “Because we can get it at this wholesale price, we're only gonna give you the wholesale value.” So that if you have to buy something that's outside of American Home Shield, that you're gonna have to pay the standard markup, which can be quite a bit.

    So, if I have to get even the same model number that was offered through American Home Shield, but because the color was different, I would have had to pay $900 more to get the exact same item if I had to buy it on my own with the reimbursement. Because they're only saying, “We buy it at this price.” I don't think the wholesale value is a fair thing. I understand the manufacturer's suggested retail price is not the way to go either. But a like value on something should be something that's closer in line to what cannot be bought for at any of the big box stores, at least their sale prices, something that’s a little bit more comparable. ‘Cause then it's like, “We'll give you a like appliance, but you can get the choices that we get for wholesale or too bad, you only get 60% of the value.”

    I worked for Sears years ago in what used to be the brand Central, which is where the appliances are sold. I know what the wholesale prices are on things and what the prices things are sold for. And that exactly what you're seeing with the values on things versus the buying program. The buying program they have is fantastic. I like that part. But something isn't gonna work because it's not what's there. Like, right now, I'm being forced, whether I like it or not, to change my appliances in my kitchen from white to stainless steel, because stainless steel is the only thing that's available through AHS's buying program. But all in all, I'm happy. I don't plan on canceling AHS. I’d still refer people to American Home Shield.

    It's a lot of work. And there seem to be a lot of exceptions and bureaucracy. I've been doing this for two to three years. I leave very specific instructions on what needs to be done like to not call my wife because she's very busy. I asked them to review the contact numbers that they have yet they still end up calling her even though they say they have deleted them. I call and say I want to get three things done and they only communicate two of them. The vendor calls back and says, "Well, you're going to have to call American Home Shield back because they didn't tell us this." So, I'm on hold for 15 to 20 minutes trying to get them to add something to the list. There is a fair amount of that.

    But this time, it went well. The electrical person came out yesterday and he was great. I had an electrical issue and one of the issues was with the garage door light bulb. He said he couldn't touch that, that he would have to forward it to a garage door vendor. If you have a house that is 10 years old, you would probably not get the value out of the warranty given the amount of work that is required on some of these, and the likelihood that they will need a repair. If you get a 30, 40-year-old house, then there will still be the same amount of work, but it might be worth it.

    I started with American Home Shield sometime in the 90s. I dropped them then I went back on about a year later. I realized the value of having the home warranty when my appliances go out. When I dropped American Home Shield, the savings were not equal to the service and professionalism I got with them. I used their service when my dryer needed a new computer part. The tech was very nice. My husband has stage 4 cancer and the guy wore a mask. He knew what he was doing and he was very knowledgeable. He was very efficient and quick. I told him what the dryer was not doing. He checked out three things and said he would order a part. When that comes in, he would come back and put it in. He sure did.

    American Home Shield has always provided good quality and excellent repairs. I like that when they are going to replace something that they can't fix, they give you a chart of appliances to choose from. I can print out that chart and I can look at the appliances and see which one I like best. American Home Shield also makes the experience easy. They have these repair people on their list and I don't have to go through all the local appliance repair people on my list. When you go through American Home Shield, you're getting someone who's been screened and who is knowledgeable.
