The induction surface plate on my induction cooktop had cracked. The repair guy thought it caught fire underneath because there was a short and more than likely it caused the glass to break, but we weren’t sure. The guy was good. Apparently, he said the wrong part had come in. He had to reorder it. He had it expedited. It took a little bit longer but we got everything in all at once, and then he came back out. Overall, it’s worth the investment for having a warranty. Having AHS paid for itself plus for that repair. We also had a refrigerator fixed at the same time with the icemaker.

The AC unit went down. The tech came out and drained the line. We thought that would be the end of it. But then he noticed that I would need a cleaning. He did a good job. Prior to this claim, American Home Shield put in a new water tank for me. They brought it up to code for me as well. The only reason why we don't have American Home Shield any further is because we sold the house. But American Home Shield is a lot better than Choice Warranty and some of these other fly-by-night guys.

I had a faucet in the bathroom that didn't work. So, I called American Home Shield and the service company called right away. It turned out, the faucet's 30 years old. So, they're having a hard time locating a new one that fits. But otherwise, I'm completely satisfied with it. I've only been with them since the 1st of October and their response was quick and acceptable. I'm happy with AHS. It’s just as good as having me call someone. It's what I expected.

My air conditioning gave up and American Home Shield responded within an hour. They had already assigned a repair company and that company called me the next morning. They came out with a technician who took one look at the system and said the whole system needed to be replaced. AHS replaced it. It took almost two months for all the parts to show up 'cause they're very difficult to get right now. But I now have a brand new furnace and air conditioner system.

AHS has also taken care of another problem with a very old washing machine that they repaired. They have also seen to it that my hot water heater was repaired properly. They have also made annual servicing for appliances available through their system. Having AHS as my warranty has more than paid for itself. I'm very glad to have them. They keep me up-to-date when there's a long wait for parts. They don't go quiet.

The furnace is going out so the contractor has to keep coming to patch it up and I have to keep calling them. In the summertime, the air wouldn't work. Then, now that it’s cold, the heat wasn’t working. So, the tech came to fix it and it sounds okay so far. When I make a claim to American Home Shield, I call them and pay the deductible. Then, the techs come out and make the repair. They’re wonderful.

We had a problem with the oven and Home Shield was able to get this oven replaced in two weeks, which is unheard of. The oven was delivered between 8:00 and noon on a Friday in South Carolina. No one works at noon in South Carolina on Friday. It's like a miracle if you can find anybody to do anything in that time period. I texted the contractor, ApplianceFixits.com, that the oven had been delivered and the tech called me a couple of hours later and said that he would be here between 5:00 and 6:00. Then he called back and said that he was way across the county. He could not make it at that time because it was late and he thought he’d needed two people to do this job because of the weight of the oven.

He asked more questions about how big the oven was and I told him it was a single thing. It was only 27 inches wide and he thought that he could do that by himself. He advised me that he would come over to my house across the county when he's done with whatever he was doing. Then, at 7:00, he came in and installed the oven. He got everything taken care of and we were all happy.

It's a good value to have this kind of insurance and they have not let me down. The only thing was when we had a problem with the air conditioner last June. It was hotter than blazes in South Carolina and everybody's air conditioner broke simultaneously. It was so hot in the house and we moved into the RV for a week, waiting on the air conditioning to get fixed. But the guy they sent out was so thorough and professional. He did such a great job that really impressed the socks off me.

The contractor was great but I have since discontinued using American Home Shield because they're too expensive and they raised it without telling me.

I am quite unhappy at the moment. I had accidentally locked the top of my cooktop on my gas stove. I'd done it before and I couldn't remember how to unlock it so I called and put in a service call on October 4th. Of course, the $100 fee had already been processed. Then, I figured it out. I called to cancel and spoke to somebody about it. I asked how would I get my $100 back and the rep said that it will be automatically reimbursed to me. I called on the 17th and somebody in customer service said that it showed that the call was canceled and I wasn't charged. I told him that I was looking at my US bank statement and it showed the money was taken out, and then taken in. He said that it was just taking a little while to work through the system and not to worry about that.

Well, I called yesterday and told the lady that it's been 10 days and I still don't have my money. She also said that it was not taken out, and yet, I was looking at my bank statement. I asked their next step and she said that I have to fax the information to them. Then I asked if she was sure that she didn't want to take an email with a PDF attachment. She said she couldn't do that. I told her fax is almost like a 19th-century technology. She said it should be faxed. So, today, I sent fax including my bank statement and a copy of the cancellation of tickets, and that's where we are.

Also, my dishwasher has stopped working completely and Show-Me Services came out to check it. Apparently, it's something with the electronic board. They said that if AHS is going to replace it, I'll hear about it in a couple of days. If AHS is just going to replace the part, then it will be several weeks. That was last Friday and I have not heard anything.

Service calls have taken longer. I couldn't get somebody out for the dishwasher for days and days. But it turned out to be good that I couldn't get somebody out for the gas stove because I figured it out. I understand that that's kind of going on now, and I get that. But this thing with the automatic deduction of a service call from my account, and then coupled with, "We show that that transaction was canceled, and the money never came out of your account," is frustrating. I don't want to go through this again especially with a canceled service call. Send my money.

I called to fix that hole. And they told me, after a week, to check if it was okay. They would send another contractor to fix the hole. But until now, it's not fixed because it's not after the week passes. I will check today if everything is okay. And I will call AHS to complete the hole.

I've called in a couple of problems. They usually would give me the name of the contractor, telling me the contractor will contact me. If he doesn't within a day, then they provide me his number to call. Recently, Wade’s Plumbing came out. He replaced the water heater for me. But the plumber tried to get me to haul off my old water heater. He wanted to leave it on my curb, which was just unacceptable. He wanted to put it in my truck so I could haul it off. When I told him that was not gonna happen, I helped him load it into his truck. But he spent quite a bit of energy trying to convince me to deal with the carcass of my water heater. But the bottom line, I got a new water heater installed. Everything's functioning now. Every interaction I've had with American Home Shield has been very good. So, when people badmouth American Home Shield, I take it with a grain of salt because that has not been my experience. I would recommend AHS.

Submitting claims with AHS is simple. They put you on the schedule. I haven't had where a contractor takes so long. The contractor usually comes out as soon as they can set up the schedule. Especially with COVID going on, being careful. With the procedure that I have to have in place because I have my mother in here, they've been really considerate about that. The last person that came out was for our water heater and the young man was really nice. However, I've had the service of AHS for 30 years and when something breaks down, sometimes I get a surprise in the background. They're telling me it's covered but then they say, “But this part is not covered.” That needs to be more clear.

It was cool outside, so I didn't notice a whole lot of temperature change but whenever the AC was on, it was not dropping down to the temperatures that I was trying to get it to. It wasn’t cooling off inside so there was something going on with the system. We reached out to American Home Shield and they immediately told me that I will be contacted. I had a follow-up email directly after I got off and had set everything up.

The next day, I was contacted by the company that was gonna be sending somebody out that very next morning. I was called by the guy and he let me know that he was three minutes out from being at the house according to the GPS. Before 11 o'clock, the guy was at my house taking care of the work. So, it was fairly quickly. He assessed the situation and figured out what the problem was. He went out to his work vehicle and retrieved the parts that he needed, and replaced what needed to be replaced. It didn't take him long at all to figure out what was necessary and to take care of the work itself. He was very thorough and did a good job.

I was nervous because I've never dealt with anything like this before but I was very impressed with how easy it was to navigate through the online homepage of American Home Shield and set everything up. It was straightforward so anybody can use them with no problem. My mom and stepdad have the same thing, too, for their house. My mom's a smart woman but she's not very tech-savvy and I don't know if it's her or my stepdad that does it, but they've never had a problem with using AHS.

The drawback with American Home Shield is their vendors. And the problem is they send somebody that is not competent, or is less than optimal competency, then it causes a major delay, which is a frustration for the home owner as well as the person that is actually living there. It could be the same, it could be different. I had Appliance First come out and the tech was fantastic. Other times, people come out and I have more knowledge than they do. And that's a shameful thing. I can look at YouTube, outside of my profession, and I can give them insight that they were not even aware of. But they have to go back and say, "Well, I need to get a higher level person to come out and take a look at it." That is more time off from work. So that aspect is very frustrating.

I had a situation where I moved into the property and it was springtime. And when the first heat wave came on, I turned on my air conditioner and it did not work. So I said, “I just bought this home warranty program. Let me call them up." They had somebody come out. It was United Air Temp. They reported back and said that the claim was denied because they told AHS that I had been tampering with the equipment. And as a result, it was not a covered claim. It cost me almost $6,000 out of pocket. But I had not touched the ac at all. I just moved in to the property.

They should have checked with me and not taking somebody who just showed up on the property. The tech said there were some screws on the air exchanger. The screws were rusted, which means that they were out for a very long period of time for it to have corrosion on there. So I couldn't have done it. That was a very sore taste in my mouth. That was almost 10 years ago. But everybody deserves a second chance. I have different properties and I use AHS exclusively on all my rental properties.

AHS has just started with the new system where they can videography using FaceTime and provide information as far as the specific appliance. So that way they can triage it a bit faster on the front end, which is a big step forward. I got renters and they are very upset, it takes long to get appliance fixed. I had to just go ahead and pay for it out of pocket 100%, which defeats the whole purpose of having a home warranty program. But they are stepping in the right direction, which is good. I've used multiple vendors and my preference is AHS.

I got some issues with American Home Shield. I've told them I had some services done a while back on my water heater. They installed a water heater through the warranty because something happened to it and the company that did it, Prime Plumbing, did not put a gas shut-off valve on there. I called them and they never followed me up on that, the warranty company nor did this plumbing company. So, it's the safety shut-off valve on the water heaters, which is they're supposed to have one. That's a state regulation and they didn't put it on there.

I've been trying to get them to come back and do it. They've never done it. I paid almost $500-something for upgrades. American Home Shield paid for the hot water heater, but I had to pay for upgrades and all that kind of stuff and it came out to almost $600. So, I'm like, "They didn't put that on there?" I've been trying to get in touch with them. They just ignore me.

We called American Home Shield and they gave me the dispatch number, and then I called Air Design the next day. Their guy said it was a fan blade, and then they had to fix it. He was good and he told me what the problem was, and I cut it off because I didn't want to make it worse. They came back a couple of days later and fixed it. It was really pretty quick. It wasn't a big issue.

In the last time I had the air conditioner fixed before this, I had to wait 10 days and it was in July and it was horrible. It's really uncomfortable when you're somewhere where it's 100 degrees and they can't get to you for 10 days. Also, they sent their customer service over to a foreign nation that speaks English and that was horrible. But I noticed that this time when I call, I didn't have that issue.

I had a thing with the garbage disposal, which still didn't get resolved. It was a plumbing issue. So, the plumber came out. At first, he said it was a plumbing issue, and he cleared out the pipes but then come to find out somebody else said it was an electrical issue because the switch wasn't coming on, and then they couldn't decide. So now, I'm paying different people for the same piece of equipment. If it is the same piece of equipment, I shouldn't have to do that. Another thing is I don't think they pay for garage door springs. It would be nice if they could pay for the springs too.

He took the back panel off, removed the motor, put the new motor in, and put it all back. It's perfectly silent now. Everything's working correctly. AHS has been doing a good job, too.

American Home Shield sent High Priority Plumbing & Services for a water leak. The plumbers were great. It was pretty easy to request the service online. I just went on there and indicated what the problem was and was contacted by the plumbing company, and then they came out and did their thing. As far as the overall service with AHS, I've tried to communicate with them and that has not been an easy process. They've got my name wrong in their system, which is not all that big a deal. It's just when you try to get somebody to talk to, it's not easy.

My my heater would come on, but it wouldn't blow heat. I went online on the app, got a bunch of selections, and I selected what I felt fit the issue. The process was very easy, then the contractor communicated with them through email and text messages. Before the techs came out, they were going to give me a call. It was first come, first serve with them. So, when they called me, they were going to put me in the cycle of when they were going to come out. Then, they let me know the technician, what time he was going to come, and what day.

I like the contractor that I got and this was their third time coming out. They have some knowledgeable workers and they're pretty good at what they do. When the tech came out here for my last claim, I told him what the problem was because I know enough. He looked at the fan, took out a bunch of dirt, and spun it. And it just came on. He stayed and waited to make sure it constantly came on and since then, it's been warm in our house. All in all, AHS is affordable and quick on the job. You don't have to wait and the representatives are nice. Everybody's attentive and it seems like they like doing what they do. I don't ever get attitude and when somebody calls, I don't get the type of people who acts like they don't know what's going on.

Our issue was a couple of clogged sinks. They were having slow drains. Getting through and setting the claim up was quick. But getting a service technician out, it was another week before somebody was able to see us. Shortening those times would be very helpful, if possible. I understand that they probably have a lot of work, but that would be my only complaint. The contractor was able to get them sinks unclogged for us. Know what is covered and what isn't upfront. That's helpful so there are no surprises when the people come out. American Home Shield does a good job of that with the way they list it on the website, so we could go out there and see the coverage rate and call or not. But we love the service.

My recommendation, whatever you are being charged for a home-warranty program, save that money to your own account and pull out for necessary repairs if you can.

The tech came out last Saturday. I got a text message saying that he was on his way to my house. So, I left work. He called and told me that he received another call in Fort Pierce. And he would go to that call first. I said, “Well, I just left work.” “Yeah, but your time was from between 3:30 and 6:30.” That was at 2:30. When he called me, I guess he was coming sooner. But I could have waited until he was on his way to my house before I left work. So when I said it to him, he got a bit annoyed. But I was, “Okay, whatever.” Right now, the AC is working fine. And some part that he showed me that was bad, he said he fixed it. That was 4 o'clock, and by 7 o'clock that night, it wasn't working again. So when he came back on Monday, he said it was a leak from outside that he fixed.

When the tech told American Home Shield what my issue was and they told me what they would cover, and I would have to cover the Freon, I asked the tech if he accepted credit cards. I asked him that while I was on the phone with AHS. He said yes. But when we hung up on the phone, he didn't accept credit cards. So I knew that I had to pay out of my pocket. Which I told him that I wouldn't have money in my account, that $280 until Friday, which is my payday. So he accepted a post-dated check, which he asked me if I could give him one. It made it uncomfortable because it put me in a financial bind when I could’ve used the credit card with most vendors. Also, I wish AHS would pay more for the Freon. They only pay $10 a pound.

As I was reading the reviews for the guy, I noticed a name in the reviews. It looked like a couple that I know. And sure enough, when I reached out to them, that was them. The husband was at work. That guy intimidated his wife so bad that he had to leave his job to go home. He fixed their air conditioning, but he intimidated his wife to the degree that he had to leave his job to go home. Because she did not feel comfortable with him being at her house alone.

The benefit of the warranty is a positive, because things do happen when you're a homeowner. And a lot of times, you don't have the money to fix major things. But some of the vendors that they select, they could do a little better. I'm sure it's all cost-effective. But sometimes, it seems they just go to the bottom of the barrel. I sell real estate and I purchase these warranties for my clients sometimes. So it's a good thing, but AHS needs to really check the vendors that they select.

I had two leaks. It was just minor. The one was dripping and the other one was a teeny tiny little pinprick that was like a little geyser. The tech came and sealed both of those. The one, he replaced, and the other one, he patched. I liked the tech. He was super quick. After he finished repairing, he walked me through the repairs that he did. Then, he walked around and visually examined some other things. He wanted to know if I would like to know what else he had spotted, which I did. He was really informative.

He pointed out a couple of other things. One was cosmetic, but it's not urgent. The other one, I'm gonna have to put in another claim for ‘cause it’s my water heater. There are some old knobs. They control the valve and he said these kinds aren't used anymore ‘cause they corrode. He said, “Nothing urgent, but you probably, down the road, want to switch those out to more modern ones.”

I first came across American Home Shield when I was with my ex-husband. We had it on his house and had to use a couple of different times for air conditioning repairs. Cost savings alone on it was incredible. I send emails anytime American Home Shield was like “Share this code with your friends.” I said, “Try it out ‘cause it’s a huge benefit, cost-wise.”

When I rented back in 2013, I took a plan from American Home Shield and I've been using them for almost eight years. Then, I have signed up for this house because I'm going to rent the house which I'm living in also soon. For my rental property, I never had any problem. Claims went very smoothly. I had a technician named John who came in and fixed my refrigerator. The water line was frozen. He fixed it in like a few minutes. The other one was the dryer and heater, and it needed some part. The blower and the wheel were bad. So, he replaced it. It went very smoothly. He was very good.

I have used American Home Shield multiple times and it was not very bad and they have helped me to fix my things multiple times. But this time, doing claims has been very tough. I had a request with LG for my dishwasher. It was very frustrating and I have never gone through such an experience for the past eight years. Usually, I'll place a request and they will give me a phone number where I can call or they will call me to schedule an appointment. But usually, I'll call and schedule and the contractor will come to my home on the scheduled time. He will fix it on the same day or he will come back with the parts ordered and he will fix it.

So, I never had an issue. But with LG, I placed the request September 9th, the tech came here on September 17th, and he said the blower is bad. He looked for the part and he said the parts are not available. It might need to be replaced. He said he will submit the report to AHS. Whenever I call AHS, they said they are trying to contact GE, they're not able to get contact of him.

Then, when I called General Electrical, they said, "This appointment has been closed and the issue has been fixed." I said, "I am the property owner. I placed the request and it's not fixed. He just came and looked at the dishwasher." The rep said, "No. If you want us to come back and look at this again, you have to come through the American Home Shield." Then I called American Home Shield, but they were waiting for a response from GE. So again, it took another week. Finally, they said they were going to send someone in. He came in and he figured out the same problem and he submitted the report, and then it went for a replacement.

This is the first time I'm replacing the dishwasher. I have no knowledge about the dishwasher. So, I didn't know that I have to shop and place orders. When I called the appliance team, the rep said I could pick a dishwasher from that and she said one dishwasher was available, which could be replaced on the 21st of October. She said, "If the dishwasher doesn't fit in the space, what you have now, then we are not responsible for that. You have to measure and make sure that fits in your space. If it doesn't fit there, then there will be a restocking fee and you have to ship it back." I didn't want to get something and it's not fitting here and taking another headache. So, I took a little longer to figure it out.

I went to the Lowe's yesterday morning. So, someone from Lowe's can come and measure it and find out which dishwasher will fit in the space for what I have now. The rep there told me if I measure from the floor to the counter, and if it is 24-inch, then any dishwasher will fit into that. Both the offers which were given to me, the Whirlpool and LG, are out of stock. I was told once that if I get a model number for LG or Whirlpool, they can look it on the system and they can order that for me. If it has extra cost, I have to pay the extra cost for it and I can order it through American Home Shield.

This morning, I got a model number and I checked that, and I was told, "There is no ETA for this dishwasher." When I'm trying to order that online, it's available. Lowe's told me that they can deliver that to me in one week. But American Home Shield told me that there is no ETA for this product. So then, I gave the rep another model number. For that also, she said, "There is no ETA." I said, "Okay, place an order. So, whenever it's available, even if it is after one month or two months, whenever it's available, let it come because I don't use this washer much." She said, "No, we can't do that. You have to call every day to find whether this product is available." So, nobody's really free. I can't call American Home Shield every day and check whether it's available. So, this is what's happening for now. This dishwasher has been a very rough journey.

When Ace's Garage Door came out when my spring broke down, I thought that what happened was covered, but it was not. We had to go out of pocket $400. What's the use of me having AHS? None. When I asked American Home Shield, they said, "It's just the LiftMaster. That's only covered." They only cover the thing which does not even break. It's a scam. Then when I asked for the plumbing, "This is what happened. Am I covered?" Because I don't want the guy to come out here and then I'll pay 300 for that. She said, "Yeah." The tech's coming out today. When Air Pro called and I said there was nothing wrong with the faucet but the sink was all stopped up. The girl that I talked to was so happy to help. She said there would be no additional charge. But it didn't work out. They were gonna send out for the faucet, but that wasn't the problem. I had to pay $150. I called Air Pro and asked them how much would they charge to come out? When I looked on the app, it still had his little symbol up north somewhere and it kept saying he was going to be here at 12:55, then it went to 1:08, then it went to 1:38. But the symbol thing was not moving on the app and he got here about 1:20 instead of 1:38 like the tracking app said.

When he got here, he told me who he was and that he was the owner. He asked me to turn on the vent and he checked a few places on the vent. Then he told me that before he starts taking anything apart, he wanted to look into this one area, because he said that he had had a previous client who had an animal fallen down in the pipe. So, he said, he wanted to go through looking at motors and that he'd open up this pipe. I was down there with him and he told me to stand back. I felt like he was concerned about my safety. When he opened it up, there was indeed a bird. It turned out that the safety mechanism wouldn't allow the heating thing to light because a bird must have flown down the chimney, fell down into the system, and the bird was wedged in the safety mechanism. So, because the bird had triggered that, it didn't allow any gas and therefore, we couldn't have any fire.

The tech showed it to me and asked me if I had a little Kohler bag. He removed the bird, put it in a bag, and told me to step back again because there was going to be a whole lot of feathers that were going to shoot up. Feathers did shot up in there and immediately, I saw the pilot light. He asked me for a broom so he could clean up. And next thing you know, I had heat. He said that possibly, the cover had come off from my chimney, so we stood outside and he pointed to other houses and told me about the various covers that they had. He made a suggestion to what type of cover would be best for my home and told me to call a chimney sweep who should be able to give me some type of quote. So, he was very professional.

I would share to my neighbors that AHS is always available on the line, not like a whole lot of other organizations that you can't get to. They also advised me what the next steps would be and they were very clear and concise. They asked if there was anything else that they could do for me at the time, and they have a great follow-up. For my last claim, I immediately got the survey after the tech left and it seems like I got it a couple of times. Other than that, I've had to use the policy one other time for my dryer and had great service there, too.

My microwave caught on fire and American Home Shield sent a technician out to check it. He called AHS back and told them that it was bloated up and unfixable. Right after he finished, I talked to the gentleman from AHS and he said that they would follow up with some microwaves that were essentially the same type of microwave I had, and that I could choose from one of those microwaves if I wanted one. Or if not, I had several other options, and when I had picked out one, they would set up somebody to install it. I chose the one I wanted and AHS ordered it. When it came in, the people brought it out and installed it. It’s very beneficial having AHS. It’s good to have it if you don’t need it but if you do need it, you got it.

My water heater is bad. I called American Home Shield because there was a leak on the ground. They sent out a plumber and he checked it out. He said it'd be $750 on his part to do it. He gave the bid to American Home Shield. I was like, "What?" I just want to get my water heater replaced. It's a cheap one. It's an electric. I'm thinking, "What's this guy trying to do?" I thought it was a rip off.

I called AHS three times. This really nice girl at the end said she's gonna call me after work today to settle. She told me what the option is, it’s how they work, and if I decide not to have that plumber fix it, they'll give me a cash buyout. I guess at that point, I'll do it myself. My buddy said he would help me. So they’d give me money to get the water heater and then I don't have to pay that 750 bucks from the plumbing company.

The contractor came for the microwave and the oven burner went out at the bottom. Also, the washing machine was shaking bad. They had to replace the parts that were broken and they had to wait a week or two to get the parts to come in. But they kept us updated the whole time. The guy was old school and you could tell he wasn't some one-month course handyman. He knew his stuff to where he was fast. He even explained to us that a lot of the older stuff are better than the brand new so he was good and efficient on time. He was fast with the three things he fixed. The microwave is working and the washing machine is not slamming so far. We got it done the day before so we’re just waiting to make sure.

I also had a claim for the AC, which was low on Freon and I had to pay that. I was not happy with the way the contractor wanted to do the AC. They wanted to replace the one little thing that broke and wouldn't put the R22 back. They wanted to put the Freon that doesn't cool very well. But it’s the nature with all the EPA stuff.

They diagnosed the problem and fixed the air condition unit in a very short period of time. I'm happy with that but I'm not happy I paid $75 for the other guy to come out here to look at my heater and about the way he did that. He changed the filter, which was nice and I appreciated that but he didn’t do a good inspection at all for $75. I expected him to do a good job but he didn’t, and he left the heater on 75 degrees.

The tech was very personable and wasn't bad at all. He was very kind and he seemed like he was going to be thorough but he wasn't here more than 15 minutes to be thorough. He didn't tell me anything that was wrong and things that were probably wrong with the heater after being 13 years old. I had guys come out here before that I've had service contracts with and they spent hours looking at my stuff. I was very impressed by how quickly American Home Shield got back to me. But I was not impressed with the service guy who came for the heater.

Last week, we woke up to banging sounds and my husband thought somebody was trying to break into our house. It turned out it was coming from our water heater. A PVC pipe coming out of it was banging against the floor and it was going up and down. I called American Home Shield at 5:45 in the morning so that I could get somebody here that day. My husband was able to turn the shower on to figure out that the noise stopped. But he had to figure out how to turn the water off and not have the noise go. He turned the nozzle off that runs water into the water heater and that stopped it.

Even though I got the automated system when I made my claim to American Home Shield, the contractor, Drain masters, was out the same day to resolve our issue. Their technicians were here no later than noon. Because of the water heater, there were so many other issues that came about like the toilets running. The technicians were very professional, respectful, and knowledgeable. They seemed to know what they were doing and they communicated to me what was going on. They did the job they were supposed to do. But the issue came back.

After they left, I started a load of laundry and the noise started again but it was different this time. It was loud and it was like the water heater was overheating. There was no banging per se. It was more of a ringing because the pressure regulator at the top was ringing and bouncing. It was causing water to run out of the water heater so much. The technicians we had didn't run the hot water and they left. I called Drain Masters right back and asked to get them back out here. They couldn't get anybody back out that night or day. The lady on the phone said, “We’ll keep this on. And if there are cancellations, we'll have somebody back out tomorrow. But there are no guarantees.” That was fair. I had to let the washer run until my husband got home because I didn't know how to turn it off. My husband turned it off all the way when he got home. There was no water under the house so it wasn't going out of that pipe.

I called American Home Shield the next morning to make sure that we could get some reimbursement. I was told that if we take a receipt of the work done up there, we would be paid half the cost. I did that. We turned the water to the water heater back on and we were able to take hot showers. I left it on to see what would happen because there was no noise at that point then it started again. I turned it off and the noise went away. Drain Masters came back after 2 o'clock and they ended up changing the temperature gauge in both of the boilers of the water heater. The bottom boiler was 110 degrees and the upper boiler was over 125. The technician set them to match at 125 and that was the issue. Nothing has happened since. But this issue should have been resolved on the first call. Other than that, I would tell others to use American Home Shield. It's 110 for each call this first year.

I'm so disappointed with American Home Shield's service and I'm ready to just cancel it. It's like every time Grade A Plumbing comes out, the issue is something that's not covered. I'm always paying out of pocket. I only thought I was supposed to pay their $100 fee and they should fix it. Grade A Plumbing came out recently for the water heater. It broke. Grade A Plumbing said I needed a new one. American Home Shield took them 15 days to find me a water heater. I called them and said, “You can just completely go to Home Depot or Lowe's.” The rep told me they had to go through their suppliers. Meanwhile, me and my kids are running from house to house taking showers.

Finally, they came. Grade A Plumbing told me that they have to put new water pipes in and those are not covered. So that was an additional almost $800 for the water pipes. Then I had PSE&G come over. It was something totally different but when he looked, he said, “Listen, the water pipes they just put in is in the wrong spot. They can't be here because it's blocking your shut-off valve for your gas.” So, I got a citation when I didn't even put the pipes in. I called back to American Home Shield. They said, “Oh, we're going to call them and they're going to come over.” As of today, I have not heard from American Home Shield or Grade A Plumbing about this. So, I am so disappointed and fed up with American Home Shield. If you don't call them, they don't follow up at all. This is going on two weeks that they still haven't called after their rep told me that Grade A Plumbing was gonna call me.

When I went out in my garage, there was a very strong odor of gas and as I was checking around, I could tell that it was coming from the water heater. So, I called American Home Shield, paid my $100 upfront, and they sent out this kid. Two days later, this kid came out late in the evening, and he claimed to be a master plumber.

Originally, I had CenterPoint come out. When I smelled it and thought it was coming from the water heater, I called CenterPoint out here before I called American Home Shield to be sure that it wasn't coming from someplace else because I have a 46-year legal background and was involved in claims where CenterPoint lines broke and those lines blew up these people's houses. And so, I didn't want to be caught in a situation like that. So, I called CenterPoint out and the guy from CenterPoint checked my entire house and absolutely said it was coming from the gas lines. He didn't give a specific gas line. He got his meter out and checked where the gas was coming from, but he didn't do a physical inspection of the gas line to see where the leak is because it could be anywhere along the gas line all the way up to where the lighter is.

He turned off my gas to the hot water heater. He did not turn off the rest of my gas, and I didn't have a problem until the first guy came back out here and said he turned the gas back on. The minute he turned the gas on, you could smell the gas coming out. He said, "Well, I'm going to do a spray test on this," but he never did do a spray test because he didn't have a bottle. Then he told me that there wasn't anything wrong with my gas lines. His excuse was that the gas smell came from when he ignited the burner. So, he wouldn't do anything. He left and within 20 minutes, you couldn't go out into my garage. The gas was so heavy inside my garage, you couldn't see through the garage. There was a haze. So, I opened up the garage door to let the gas out and I turned the gas back off. Then, I called in to American Home Shield and had them bring DNB out here.

The DNB guy came out here and in less than five minutes when he turned on the hot water heater, he found that the little small gas line was broken completely in half. He found it, repaired it and got my hot water heater back up and running. As far as DNB had done, my experience with them has been fine on two separate occasions.

I bought my house brand-new in 2006 and I got the contract with American Home Shield, and within a week both my toilet tanks cracked. I went online thinking, "Why is my toilet tanks breaking?" I called American Home Shield and they sent some people out but while I was waiting for them to come out, I went online. I was looking for why my toilet tanks would break. As it turns out, what I had were American Standard toilets and they had reached the end of their time and would crack automatically after 15 to 16 years just through normal wear and tear, flushing the toilet, and using the handle. Over time, it will create stress on the tank and it breaks the tank. The guy from the first company that AHS sent out here looked at the toilets and I heard him on the telephone saying, "We don't want to fool with this. This isn't enough money for us." He was not going to fix the toilet. I even put out reviews about it because it was terrible.

Within a few days of my toilet issue, I had a problem with my washer. I put a load of laundry in my front-loading machine. I just set it for like a 15-minute speed wash because there wasn't very many clothes in there. I went in my bedroom and I heard this big thud. I walked around looking for it, thinking something fell off the wall. Then I went into the laundry room and there was water all over my floor. The springs broke on the tub and the tub dropped. When the tub dropped, it caused the door seal to explode and water was everywhere. So, I turned it off. I had to let the water drain out on the floor and I had to stay watch over it with the towels and I used towels to clean up the water.

American Home Shield sent out this company. There is only one company here in Houston that gets American Home Shield referrals for appliances. So, it wasn't bad. They came out here within a day and said, "Yes, we'll cover this." But then, when the parts came in a few days later, we couldn't get him to come back out here to install the parts.

I think anybody that gets a contract with American Home Shield should open up a separate checking account and only keep $2 in it because American Home Shield tries to draft all the fees before they even send anybody out here. So, they get the fee, and then they won't return the fee. What I did was I opened up a second checking account and just left a couple of dollars in it.

The claims process with AHS was pretty good. I have had an experience where the fee that we pay sometimes was paid, and I had not gotten the service. But it was corrected immediately. But if they have a contractor who is not responding to the customer and who states they've given service, they need to speak with the customer and not just take the word of the contractor that they came out and did the service. They need to speak to both parties and make sure the information is correct. Other than that, AHS is a great service provider and I recommend them to all my friends.

In my recent claim, the rubber thing in my front loader washing machine was all tweaked, nasty, old, and hanging and so Jea’s Appliance was dispatched. The technician ordered the part and before he was leaving, he noticed that on the very top where the controls are, there was a crack all the way down. He asked if I've seen it before and I said no. He addressed that and he replaced the seal that goes around the front of the tub. There was another guy who brought the part and replaced it. Now, I won't use anybody but them.

Then I had a strange occurrence a couple years ago. I turned on my dishwasher and walked upstairs to get ready because I was going to leave. All of a sudden, I smelled smoke. I looked over the railing and my whole downstairs was just covered in smoke. I went there quickly and my dishwasher was on fire. It was on a Saturday and I called everybody under the sun. I could not get anybody out here. American Home Shield couldn't find one either. Then they finally found this company. The guy called me on the phone and I was in tears because I have asthma and I couldn't even be in the house. He came out and made a trip on Saturday even though they don't, so that sealed the deal for me.

The problem I have with American Home Shield is that when I call them up or go into their app to make an appointment, they pull up the first person that comes up. They don't look to see if it's somebody that is in the immediate area or close to it. I've had them send a company where their home base was 400 miles from my house and I had to wait for them to contact their home base. They had to send somebody local. That person had to take the parts and they were just working out of their home and it had to go through 400 miles away, which is absolutely ridiculous. When I finally got them on the phone, which took forever, they told me that they were sorry and there was nothing they could do. Well, that's not how they should treat customers. AHS has enough people who can research the companies that are with them that are in the local areas.

Also, you have to wait for parts to come. I had an issue with my washing machine one time. The tech came and looked at it. He said that the part for the drum of my washing machine wasn't any good. It took over three weeks to get the part. When it arrived, he came at night, then he picked up my washing machine and took it to his shop. It was another two and a half or so weeks before I got it back. How long can you go without washing your clothes? I don't want to take my clothes to a laundromat where God knows who has used it. It was a month and a half calling and trying to get information. Customer service will not escalate it. I do my homework. After the experience with the one company, that's it. When I needed service, I won't go through this again and spend a long time.

There are local dealers that have products on hand. They're just not the person that comes out and checks your machine. It's really sad that AHS doesn't do that because there are tons and tons of complaints. If they truly wanted to be the best, that's what they would do. The other thing is that when you get a reputable company to come out and service you, even if they could get the parts local, American Home Shield won't let them. It has to come from their warehouse. That does not make sense. If it's a warehouse that’s in the back east or the Midwest, you're out of luck. You sit. AHS could do a whole lot better. I won't use anybody but them for the simple reason that they are the only ones that do not prorate your appliance. But there's a lot of areas that need work.

Recently, our AC unit wouldn't come on. The tech went up and cleaned the jets and the line and then it came on. After he left, sometimes it takes 20 minutes for it to come on again. So, I don't think cleaning whatever he cleaned fixed the problem. Sometimes, it's hard to get a hold of somebody online. First, you have to go through that automatic thing, and sometimes the reps frustrate me because they can't understand what I'm saying and I can't understand what they're saying. So, I just press 0 to get to a technician.

Four weeks before, a tech came out on my dishwasher and tried to fix my hood. He got them going but he said he had magical hands. I said, "Really?" and he says, "Well, if it doesn't work, call me back and I'll come out and fix it." He also said that he thinks the problem is the board. I said, "Why are we thinking it's the board? Why don't we just replace the board?" So, the techs came and they put a board in it and it's been working fine. However, the first tech who came was Tech 16 and he was in a dispute with AHS so he didn't care if he worked on the job or not. AHS needs to screen the people they hire because I've had four guys who didn't know what they were doing. But other than that, I've had success with AHS.

I had AHS before in Maryland and I had stopped three years. They gave me a complete fit because it took forever for somebody to come out. But with this recent one, it didn't take too long. I would recommend AHS as of right now because it seems different than what it was before. Delta got with me. I texted them back. They said, "We won't be able to get out." American Home Shield said, "We'll be able to get out the 8th of next week, this month.” I said, “That won't do. Because I have a refrigerator where I started throwing food away.” After that, I put down, "I need someone to try to get out of here as soon as possible." Two days later, Delta texted me. They said, "Monday or Tuesday of this week." I said, “It'd be nice if I can get somebody out here before Monday and Tuesday so they can at least start the process.”

They came out that Saturday. They did the diagnostic on everything. They were supposed to get with AHS and try to get the approval to get things rolling. They were very thorough. They said what the problem was and they would get back to me as soon as they turn everything in. The tech was very professional. He acted like he knew what he was talking about. However, after I texted Delta, they said, "Okay. I'll get back to you." But I haven't heard anything.

I opened a ticket online when the microwave was not working. The service was scheduled a week after I raised a ticket. The contractor kept on messaging me when they were coming, who was coming, and what time they were coming. Those were what I like about the contractors. They were also meticulously planning and attending the work orders. The technician that came out told me that the microwave had to be replaced. Then I got an email from American Home Shield to order a new one. So I followed that mail and links and I ordered it. It's been more than a month now but there is no progress on it.

I called American Home Shield and they said the microwave is missing somewhere and it's backordered. They told me it's going to take some time. So far, my experience is good because the technicians are at par with the warranty and service and the timing. They're doing very good. But as far as this microwave is concerned, I'm completely annoyed. I'm not happy with American Home Shield. They should work with the manufacturer to get the backorders delivered quickly and fix it or let us know what's happening. I should not be following up with American Home Shield. It's almost two months now without the microwave oven services. But all other experiences I've had with American Home Shield were good. They provided good service and that's why I'm sticking with them. Otherwise, I would have moved to American Home Warranty.

We first called on the 20th of August and Air Boss Mechanical came out right away for the AC. They diagnosed the problem and said that they could do it within 24 to 48 hours if American Home Shield would be able to provide the part. Air Boss put in the request and I checked with AHS because nothing had happened. They told me and even sent me paperwork saying that the part had been ordered. That was one week and then, I called them a few times again because it was very hot. It was over 100 degrees and they left me with nothing in the house. So, I informed AHS that there was a 75-year-old woman living here and that person wouldn’t be able to survive the heat. Air Boss said they couldn’t do anything. They could possibly get the part but AHS has its policy and they like to buy their own parts because they have them stored somewhere and they can get the best price.

AHS lied to me for weeks. It was in September when they told me that the part was ordered on the 20th of August but it was ordered for the first time on September 9th, 2021. They finally offered to resolve the situation for me because they didn’t have the part and they didn’t know when they would get it here. Every time I would call them prior to this time when they finally admitted that they hadn’t even ordered the part, they would say that I was going to have to pay $630. So, I said that it didn't matter. We have the money. We just need the part and want the work to be done.

The rep increased the offer to me. I was told that they would give me the money to purchase the part so I could see if I could get someone to fix it. But they only offered me $465 at first. I told them that the cost of the job would have been $2,600 to $2,800 with another contractor and I couldn’t buy anything for that. I called one of the reps after she told me that that was as much as they would give me. She didn’t even say goodbye, hold on, or anything. She sent my call again to another department. After no one had answered for over an hour, the call was dropped. Then I would be holding on maybe for 35 minutes later, because I would always call back.

I went back to AHS and they said that we should get the part. I said that they knew how much it would cost and what they charge. They told me then that they would charge the same thing that was in the contract for the Freon, and that I would have to pay them the Freon because my contract only had $10 for each $100 that the Freon cost. We didn’t have a problem with that.

The rep changed my contract number also. She told me never to use the 288 number. They told me that I renewed my contract so I should use the new number which I still have here now. The girl from AHS told me to fire Air Boss and that AHS will allow me to pick my own contractor, and AHS would pay for the part, the air compressor, and the labor. Or I could accept the cash-out offer. This was the first time about the cash out offer and I asked how much. She said she did not have the details and that we would discuss the option when she gets back with me. But she did not call me back either. So that was on the 6th of September while it was a holiday and on the 8th, when I tried to get the girl, they would not allow me to speak with a supervisor or anyone there.

Finally, I gave that call back on the 8th and a rep told me that the cash-out offer would be $345, which we did not accept. Everybody was on the line, too, so we told them that we could not buy the part. It wouldn’t even pay for labor. They told me there was nothing they could do if I didn’t take it, which was why I was trying to find out what the next recourse was if we didn’t accept that money. They were very nice though because the rep told me she would try to put a rush on ordering the part because Air Boss said, too, that they would be able to install the part but they had to have the clearance from American Home Shield to order.

We opened a ticket to repair a washer on 29 July 2021. It's now 23 Oct 2021 and we are still without successful repair. I have phoned over a dozen times over the last few weeks and there is still no definitive action to get this issue finished. We get the usual deflection 'a supervisor will call you', which takes around 10 days. They won't replace the machine and their policy is to do so after 21 days. I think they are simply too big a company now to attend to their customers like people not numbers. I enjoy and appreciate talking to the off-shore customer services team in the Philippines too, but it seems that are not empowered to get anything done, so are simply there to nod, 'understand' and kick the can down the road. No one there has the authority to make a decision.

Eventually, a repairman came on Tuesday (12 weeks after first filing) and after his work, he assured me he had tested the machine and that was running fine. We tried the machine this evening (Friday) and it leaked ALL over the room, flooding out the floor and everything on it. The wooden boards around the room perimeter are soaked and will now rot out and so will the standing wooden furniture we have.

3 months to get this sorted out is too long. Our next stop is to file a small claims case as we have been out almost every Saturday morning at the coin-op laundry to do the laundry for a family of 4. This costs a lot of time and money, and we have had enough. Please do join if you have had a similar experience and are interested in forming a class action. This company will do everything in its power not to step up and do the right thing which is to get its customers up and running again quickly. This is what we pay a monthly premium for. Feel free to respond if you have had a similar experience as we’d like to get some momentum going on this. Thank you.

My issue with American Home Shield was when the hot water heater went out. I contacted them and they gave me someone in another city who was not very cooperative. That gentleman was in here for less than five minutes. By the time I got up from the basement steps, he was up from the basement steps. And he said, “You need a new hot water heater.” I said, “Really?” So I didn't feel comfortable. And he kept going. I said, “Well, I don't believe that, because I never had any issues.” I found out that he lived where I do, but the company that AHS gave me was in West Virginia. I said, “I'm in Virginia. Why would you give me somebody in another?” “Well, we have representatives there.” I said, “Who wasn't really a good technician.” And she said, “Well, that's all I can do.” “You're absolutely right. That's all you're going to do.”

I requested the lady to give me a second opinion but she told me I would have to pay another $75. I said, “Well, I'm not sure why, because I just don't believe that the person you sent out here was capable of doing the job. So I'm protecting your interest as well as mine.” Because those people asked me for an additional $800 that AHS would not cover if I got a new heater because of the age of the heater, which is understandable if I needed a new one. Tell me things are out of code and you would have to bring them up to code. I understand all that. So I called AHS and asked for another person to come out. It ended up being United Air who I always have had to work on the appliances in this home. They came out and repaired it, and I did not need a new heater.

I cautioned AHS. I wrote a very extensive letter, which I see went nowhere, because no one contacted me to find out more about these people that they hire to represent them. They gave me poor service. And I never got to speak to a representative for days. I was without hot water for 21 days and that was unacceptable. I also wrote a letter to the company but never heard a thing.

I've been with AHS for over 20 years and I never had such poor service. What I wanted is for them to understand that when the customer gives a major complaint like that, they are trying to protect AHS and the customer. Because I could have went with this guy, believed him, paid $1,000 out of my pocket, got a brand new water heater and not needed it, and the company would make money off of AHS and the customer. So I put it out there, but I got no response. And I want AHS to know that I was not satisfied. To this day, no one has called me to talk about that situation. But for most of my claims, I asked for the same company so they have always done impeccable service. All of my other services from United Air, I have always done my ratings on them because they give impeccable service.

The washing machine was not wringing the water out properly. The clothes were soaking wet. We had to repeatedly take the clothes out and wring them personally over the sink to get all the water off before we could put them in the dryer. The tub was leaning side to side, making loud noises. The washing machine is over 20 years old and we’ve had problems with it in the past. We had service back in March for the same issue. It seems like American Home Shield put patches on it, and it kept going, and then it starts again.

I have several properties that are warranted through American Home Shield and I have mixed feelings. I was talking to people in the Philippines or in Mexico or in other countries related to concerns that I had about the service that I was requesting. It took months to rectify one incident that I had on one unit for my air conditioning. American Home Shield could do a whole lot better. The phone service was lacking a lot of being friendly. My calls were not being returned, and I had to make repeated calls. It seemed like it was an ongoing thing and they were beating around the bush. I kept getting different answers from different people in different countries. I paid for good service but I wasn’t getting it.

I was very frustrated when I had a problem with my air conditioning unit. It needed to be replaced, and I had to wait a whole month. I requested for a second evaluation or consultation by another independent contractor, and then that party came out and said, “Oh, yeah. This air conditioning needs to be replaced.” It appeared to me that American Home Shield didn't want to do it. All I got was information from the contractor, but not from American Home Shield. The contractor said they denied the repairs, and I was stuck. So I fought it for a whole month. I had records showing that I have placed around 20 calls.

I talked to the supervisor, and to the person on the phone, and also the person in the claim departments. But nobody would give me a clear answer. Everybody had different answers to why the claim was being denied. It left a bitter taste in my mouth. They finally got the work done but I had to come out of pocket for $1,500. I don't understand why I had to pay that other than they said it was the part that I needed to pay for.

The first tech was okay but he didn't do the whole job. He put a band-aid on rather than making sure it was cleaned out.

There's no excuse for having to wait as long as I did for someone to come out. There was no excuse to give me a four-hour window, which I didn't like at all, and be late for that. The transmission in the washing machine went out. The contractor had to order a part and then they came back and put it in. They were excellent. I didn't have a problem with American Home Shield for this event. But for a prior event, I had a problem with American Home Shield. They need to have a better process for consumer resolution. My hot water heater went out. The person came out and told me that I would have to pay $1,000 out of my pocket to them and that my water heater was going to have to be totally replaced by American Home Shield. So, that didn't sit well with me. I didn't believe them.

I called the company that made the water heater and they said, "No, you don't have to get your whole water heater replaced. You only need to get the one part replaced." That part was $100 versus my $5,000 water heater. It's a specialized water heater because it controls the heating in the house as well. I called American Home Shield and they sent another person out.

The first contractor reported the issue but they never gave me any paperwork. They never wrote down anything that I was gonna have to pay $1,000 out of my pocket. They even called me back and told me that I needed to pay 6,000. So that's 1,000 for service and 5,000 for the water heater. But when the second technician came out, he said what the water heater company said. But American Home Shield would not cover the claim because they said it was a pre-existing situation. They based that on what the first person said. You can't even operate that gas heater without that one part, and had it been a pre-existing situation, I would have never had any gas in my house. Also, when I got paperwork written by the second technician, nothing said it was pre-existing.

When I tried to call American Home Shield, they said, "Well, you would have to prove that you had an inspection on your house." Of course, I had an inspection on my house. Consumers need to be able to have a mechanism to report situations like this. When I told American Home Shield that the first contractor is probably ripping people off, nobody ever followed up with me to find out what happened.

Recently, the panel of the dishwasher was not coming on. EJ's appliance came but the techs had to come back to do follow-up repair. EJ's is the most professional out of all the companies AHS has sent out. On September 21, I made a call for a refrigerator that was not working. AHS assigned a company called My Appliance Repair and they could not do the work. AHS reassigned my claim to 1st Choice Appliance Repair. They came out on October the 4th and they said they’ll need to order the parts. They set up the appointments after the part came. They said they were coming in on the 19th of October but nobody showed up. I was waiting the whole day.

Finally, I tried to call the contractor back and there was no response. Then I called AHS and they go, “We’ll escalate this for them to come out again.” And they finally got ahold of them and then they set up an appointment date on the 28th. Over a month later, still no working fridge. And on the 28th, no call, no show from 1st Choice. I called and the person said I had to call them back. I did and they said they'll set up a new date. But I didn't hear anything from them for that.

I called AHS and asked them to set me up with a different contractor because I've dealt with 1st Choice twice and they're not showing up when they should have. AHS has been telling me that they're gonna get ahold of a company and they'll call me back. Today is the third and I have not heard anything. I've been calling them every single day since the 28th to follow up on this company. I told AHS today, “I need a fridge. Please just send somebody out.” It's been over six weeks and this is still ongoing. I don't know what's going to happen at this point. I'm waiting in limbo and I'm not happy with that. I don't think anybody should pay their money for service and then wait for six weeks for a fridge to get fixed. If AHS can't fix it, just replace it. So, I'm very frustrated.

Also, AHS's customer service people are not in the US and they don't understand terminology about the US. Then, they tell me they can't escalate to a manager. There's no manager there so I just have to suck it up.

We bought this house last September and we've had American Home Shield since then. It expired again in September and we decided to go ahead and re-up, because we had ongoing air conditioning claims. One, the air conditioning in my husband's office building on the property went out. American Home Shield claimed they didn't have anybody that could do it so they approved for my personal air conditioning company to fix it. Then lo and behold, another air conditioning flooded, and I'm subsequently not going to use my AC company anymore because AHS kept telling me the water was nothing, it was a plumbing problem. It wasn't a plumbing problem, it was their problem.

Then, I got mold and had to remediate that. That was on me because American Home Shield won't cover that either. The guy came out and fixed that one and he left. Then it was that night that the air conditioner on the second floor flooded the garage, so the tech had to come back and fix that again. He had told the remediation people to put a hole in the condensation pan. When he came back out Friday a week ago, I told him to fix the hole in the condensation pan, and yet he didn't. When the people came out on Monday to do the repair work, they did the repair work in the lower level where all the mold was remediated. They had to prepare all the drywall and replace the flooring, but they couldn't do the job in the garage until they could get the tech back out here, and he's not coming out till Friday, so it'll be next week before that work is done.

I'm most upset about the heater situation. The heater of the pool was not working and AHS sent someone out that recommended the heater be replaced. They didn't like that answer, so they sent another company to check it out without telling the first company. Then I got an email that said, "There's an issue with your claim. Give us a call." So I did. American Home Shield told me that they would only pay $3,000 on the cost of the heater. It was gonna be another $6,900, which meant the heater was gonna be close to $10,000. I asked what the first person's bid was and theirs was a little over $11,000. I told AHS that I have to think about this.

I have a home in Connecticut and we just had our heater replaced there, and it only cost us $4,200. I called the company. I sent them an email, I showed them the invoice for my heater that was just replaced this month, and I asked, "How could yours be more than twice?" The lady gave me the COVID excuse. If my heater had been replaced last summer or last spring, I might accept COVID as an excuse, but being that I wrote the check on October 20th to my company in Connecticut, I just don't believe this price, so nothing has been done.

Requesting service from AHS is pretty easy. I just did it online and then I got the information for Mister Freeze right away. The technician was very professional. He told me that they couldn't work on the AC unit because it's a very specific unit that requires a certified technician from the company. But he diagnosed the AC unit, saying that there was no Freon left. He helped me disconnect the power so that we don't burn the motor. But all in all, I was pretty satisfied with the situation. He also updated me with some information about what's going to happen next.

I called AHS three times yesterday and it was during my last call with Karen that she told me what was going to happen within their authorization department. She also told me that I should receive some sort of decision today. Before I talked to Karen, I talked to another customer representative yesterday and he put me on hold for a very long time. But when he came back, he didn't give me any of the information that Karen was giving me. So he was not able to help me at all.

It gives me the comfort to know I can call. The process was also simple. I called, picked from the list of whatever it needed to get done. I paid my payment right there, all in one phone call. My recent experience with A Johnson was good. I could tell he's a heater guy and he knew exactly what he was doing. The original complaint was the heater wouldn't come on. He fixed it, but then it wouldn't turn off. He came back out and it's all fixed. We have heat. We're happy.

For years, the contractors could never find where the leak was coming from. But the guy from Total Air Care found the leak in the coil and he said it needs a new coil. We debated about whether to replace the coil or replace the AC, and it needs to be replaced because it's over 20 years old. My husband just took it upon himself to pay the difference. I'm just disappointed that Home Shield didn't replace the AC like it should have been.

The AC was not cooling. I went through American Home Shield's website to file my claim, and they sent Piedmont out. They were all right. I was a little pissed off about one thing. I paid 75 bucks. The techs diagnosed the problem as a compressor that needed to be replaced. They told me that the compressor was covered under Home Shield and that they would replace that for me but that I would need 11 pounds of Freon put into this, and AHS only covers $10 a pound, so I have to put 100 a pound, which was $1,100.

I had another company come out and take a look at it as well. They also said that the compressor needed to be replaced but they said I only needed six pounds of Freon based on their math. Given the choice of paying them to replace the compressor and paying them for six pounds, versus getting the compressor replaced for free and paying for 11 pounds, the 11 pounds was still a better option for me but I did feel like I got ripped off a little bit by those guys. But I wasn't really in a position to do anything about it either.

Everything's good with my experience with AHS. My first claim was the fridge. The second was the spring in the garage. The spring broke, so it got replaced. Their service is A-plus. I find it a little pricey, though. We pay monthly and then on top of that, every time a tech needs to come, we have to pay 100 bucks. I highly recommend AHS to anybody. But when you call a tech and they don’t know how to fix it, they charge you for coming to take a look at it. Some items, like the garage spring, I have no clue how much I would have to pay if I didn’t have AHS. They could fix it with no problem at all, the same thing with the fridge. They're not messing around.

We have another one that is really cheap. It’s through Xcel Energy, which is a gas company here in Colorado. They charge 20 per month. They replace the item if it's not fixable. But they simply checked on the fridge, and they said that the fridge wasn’t fixable. They couldn't fix it, but AHS could. It was the fan that wasn't working. The techs came to take a look at it and ordered the part. They came back in five days and they replaced it.

Everything has been smooth and I would suggest American Home Shield. When I needed something and did a service call, it was fixed within a day or two.

The only thing that needs to be fixed is the website. I still don't have personal access to it although I had at one time. When I submitted a full-year payment, it was 600 and some dollars but my bank had a $500 cap to where I needed to validate it. I missed that email so I never validated it and it was never paid. It then expired. I received the expiration and at that point, I had to open a new account. Whenever I tried to create a new online account, the website had me with an old account and I couldn't remove it or change it. I called a few times and talked with people to try to fix that. But it hasn't been fixed. When I was starting to go in the last time, I couldn't do it. I had to call in. The rep was unable to find me initially but was able to somehow. I've cancelled American Home Shield. I never got to talk to anybody about the cancellation. They kept switching me to other people. I'm not a happy camper. I've had them for over 20 years in two houses, and an estimate of what I've paid them is probably close to $12,000. When I called them a few days ago, my toilet had stopped up. I tried fixing it. I went and got an auger and I couldn't reach wherever the block was. I plunged and ended up having sewage coming to my bathtub. So, I called AHS. I got an appointment the next day. The guys came. They went outside to the clean-out, and they ran their auger through it 100 feet. They didn't find a block. So, the tech took it out, and he went in with the camera. The camera told him that that clean-out went to the upstairs because it’s two-story, and the upstairs was clear. He said, “There's no blockage there. The blockage is in the downstairs. And you don't have a clean-out spout for that.”

He said the new houses that they're building are supposed to have two if it's two-story, one for the up and one for the down. I said, “Well, I don't think there's any other spot anywhere. I think I would have found it in the 11 years I've lived here.” So, he said, “Well, what we have to do then is take one of the toilets off downstairs. And we have to go with the equipment through there.” He also said, “I need to call American Home Shield and see if they'll authorize it.” Never in my wildest dreams did I think they wouldn't cover it, but they said there's this little section E somewhere that when it comes to stoppages, it has to be easily accessed through the clean-out outside, and they will not pay to have them remove the toilet and run the equipment inside. I said, “You have got to be kidding me.” He said, “No, ma'am. I'm sorry.”

It cost me $465. But I called American Home Shield immediately and I said, “This is crazy. It says you take care of the stoppages. This is not just a stoppage now. I have a health hazard, ‘cause now I got poop in my bathtub. And there is no outside thing for it.” I was so pissed. I asked to speak to a manager. I didn't get a manager. Then he transferred me so I could cancel my American Home Shield. I said, “Look, you've got $12,000 out of me over 20-plus years. I can't believe you're not paying for 465.” In retrospect, it didn't surprise me. When I had to get my water heater replaced, which it says it does, there were extra costs that they don't cover to the tune of $1,500 that I had to pay to get the water heater changed out.

So, the next time I had a pipe break in my front yard, I dug it up myself. I called a very reputable company. They came and fixed it. I paid like $1,500 and I'm sure it would have cost me at least that. I didn't even think about using American Home Shield because I haven't had any luck. I thought I was protecting myself or at least my family when I was away. I'm not pleased with their service.

The way they have it all set up now works really well. Submitting a claim is very easy once you do it once. It's streaming and the people whom I've talked to for the last two things with my washer and dryer asked the right questions. The streaming and taking a photo of the appliance helps identify the problem very quickly. The people they sent out did the job.

We have an older home and we have it in case we needed it. Sometimes, when I've called, I've been on hold for a long time. There are times that I have to wait another day for the person that is assigned then I have to wait for them to call back. Sometimes, when it's something more urgent like a plumbing issue, it's getting a hold of them, and then waiting for the company that will be assigned to us to get back and then get on their schedule. Sometimes it turns into two or three days before somebody is able to come out. I wish they have an emergency hotline whenever there's urgent claims.

I called American Home Shield Wednesday last week for my water heater. They sent a guy out on Saturday and he took it apart. Before he came, the water heater was blinking five times, which means the sensor was out. So once he took it apart and put it back together, it blinked normally. So it appeared to be fixed. But shortly after he left, I turned the water on and it was still getting warm, not hot like it should be. So I went out there and checked the water heater and it was back to blinking five times again. So it was only fixed for just a few minutes. I contacted American Home Shield again and a different guy came out on Tuesday. He said the sensor has to be ordered. So he ordered it and hopefully, within the next day or so, the part will be in. This is my first claim with American Home Shield and they seem to be on top of it.

American Home Shield sent Nate's Appliance Repair to fix the dishwasher. The top rack would not come out. It was stuck inside the dishwasher, so it was unusable. I called AHS to file the claim and getting through to them was not easy. There are pretty long hold times, and then they outsource their call center. So, sometimes, you get a representative who speaks English very clearly and articulately. Sometimes, you get someone who, either from a poor phone connection on their end or isn't as easy to understand and communicate with.

So far, we've had a couple of claims with AHS. Nate's was really great. They were communicative and responded in a reasonable time. But as far as the other contractors we've experienced through the home warranty, it's very clear that they're putting their efforts elsewhere where they're getting more money versus the discounted rates that the warranty is paying. Nate's has been the only one that has finished work, and they were awesome. They replaced a part in the rollers on the top rack. There was a portion where you put the soap that was broken. So, they replaced that as well. I've been going back and forth with AHS on a different issue today, but it's a good insurance policy with the understanding that it may take some time to get things done.

American Home Shield sent GE Tech for the air conditioner. AHS asked for details, I gave them the details and they said they would let me know who the subcontractor would be and they would be in touch shortly. Sure enough, I got the text knowing who to expect. I was very pleased that the technician. He was in the neighborhood ending another job and came over when he was done with it to see what the problem was. So, that was great that he was in the area and I didn't have to wait. He diagnosed it right away and ordered the part right away and the part came fairly quickly.

Then he came and he put it in and it didn't fix it. It was the computer board and he said it was the air conditioning circuit on the computer board. But when he put the board back in and hooked it up, it still didn't work. So, he realized the transistor that changes the voltage of the electricity from the furnace to the computer board was burned out. But that was easy. He had one in the truck. So, he stayed until that was in, and then we turned it on and it worked, and he said, "Leave it down low for three hours, and then put it back to your normal." It's weeks later now and it's still working.

The total time was over a month whereas if it was a handyman, it would have just been within a couple of days. But it's fine as it wasn't an emergency type situation. Also, the call-out fee, if that was a little lower, that would make it better. So far, AHS has been good.

We have owned some other apartments and we have our own list of contractors that we have discovered over many years of maintenance, and Home Shield is the only warranty company we've ever dealt with. Sometimes, the English takes a little patience, and it's been difficult because a lot of the telephone people are in the Philippines, and we certainly respect that. We love it that they can work from home, we can hear the chickens in the backyard, and they’ve been embarrassed when we ask them that. We appreciate the fact that they have a job.

Recently, we had a leak in a bathroom upstairs, which made a hole in an apartment downstairs. In the upstairs bathtub, underneath the tub sprang a leak and leaked through the ceiling to the bathtub below. The last tech that came out inspected it and said it could be fixed fairly easily. But it was gonna take two people to do it because one had to be upstairs and one had to be downstairs. So far, we’ve been very pleased. American Home Shield is well worth it and we recommend them.

We used it the first time within our first month in the house. So far, so good. Our second time using it was for our AC. A chip in there fried, and they were helpful. I wish we could have gotten them in there sooner because it was really a rough time but the guy came over when he had a moment instead of waiting for the appointment, checked it out, let us know what was wrong and went to go give us a quote. He had told us what the part was. So, my husband found it faster. We contacted him when we got it and he came right over. So, it worked really well.

They gave me a choice of dishwashers and I picked which one. It was delivered here to the house. But it was a month before anybody could come and put it in. They came and installed it and it's working. So I'm good. It was just a long, drawn-out process.

I would place an order to go look at the kitchen sink and then, while the person's here, they may notice that some other related plumbing issue was going on and AHS won't allow the vendor to take a look at that while they're here. They say, "Oh, you have to make another ticket for that and it will charge you another service fee." As far as the vendors, some of them are great, professional, efficient and get the job done. Some of them have left me worse off than when they came.

The unit needed Freon. But the guy who come out the first time didn't have any Freon in his truck. So the contractor had to make about three visits before we got it resolved. My biggest issue with that is having Home Shield and I still had to pay them for the Freon. I ended up spending $100 to have Home Shield dispatch someone, and then when they came, I ended up spending another $230 for the Freon. So I wasn't happy about that.

I like the fact that buying the home, I got the Home Shield because the sellers paid for it. But I don't like the fact that I have to pay $100 for a service charge, and then out of the four contractors that came out, I've had to pay out of pocket all but one. If I have Home Shield, why am I still paying the contractor out of pocket? I had the electrician come out and I had to pay an extra $100 to him out of pocket. For the water heater, I had to find my own contractor because they had nobody and then I also ended up having to pay out of pocket for that. My big dilemma is why were the sellers spending $639 on Home Shield and I still had to come out of my pocket about another 600 bucks? But as far as the contractors and contacting and getting them out there, all those services were fine.

Every time there's something that happens at my home, a vendor comes out and there's $1,000 worth of changes that they need to make to do the job. When I contact another plumber and they come in, they say, "No. They don't have to do all that. They're just trying to make extra money because they're doing a warranty job." I've had that happen a number of times. I recently had it happen with the air conditioner. The guy went outside, came back in, and said that my outside compressor wasn't working. It was going to be $900 to fix that. But it was working before he got there. After he left, I went to the capacitor area. The capacitor had been tripped. I pressed the button back in and everything started up and ran just fine.

My air conditioning condenser needs to be replaced right now and their vendor said I could pay $1,500 to get all of the changes that they needed to make or I could do it on my own. When I asked if I could do it on my own, American Home Shield said they would give me $400. You can't buy the parts for an air conditioner for that amount.

The only exception to my experience was the other day when a plumber come out and he was actually really good. He took care of what needed to be done and was in and out. There was no extra cost too. I was happy. But overall, I'm not overly excited about what I've gotten from American Home Shield. I asked if they could cash me out and they gave me an incredibly low number to do the repairs. American Home Shield needs to relook at their program as far as their vendors go and as far as opening up other vendors. They should allow whatever the price they're going to pay their vendor in their reimbursement and let us take on the rest of it if we're dealing with someone else.

When they texted me who was coming to fix the unit, the guy in the backyard had taken the part loose and put it on there. But he couldn't do it because American Shield put a hold on their approval. Even if they sent him how much the bill was gonna be and they still wouldn't give approval for it.

I kept calling American Shield and they said they're waiting on something else from the first company they sent. They kept giving Baker's the runaround about the claim and they said they couldn't fix the unit without their approval. I told Baker's I'm not gonna let my grandkids suffer anymore in this heat and to go ahead and fix the unit. I would pay it out of my pocket. I canceled my claim service with American Shield and told them that was no way to treat their customer in a time like this. The first time I called American Shield, they responded faster. In the past, I have done a claim over the internet, but this particular time, I did it by phone and it ran smoothly. When the American Home Shield rep took my call, she asked me what was going on and then explained to me, “Sorry to do this to you, but that's actually two different claims. The HVAC and the refrigerator.” I said, “Okay. I can understand that.” She said, “So short of you paying the deductible on each one, we’ll take care of you.” I didn't mind it.

The first claim was one of my HVAC units was leaking and overflowing. I thought something was going on with it. The technician came out and found that the drain was clogged. He went straight to the problem and took videos of it. He brought the unit down because it was in the attic and he showed me what was going on, instead of just telling me. He was definitely on point. He also told me how to keep it from happening again, how to clean it out and keep it flushed with Clorox. The young man was very thorough and he resolved that first problem. I was truly pleased with him.

On the second claim, the technician Brian came out and assessed my refrigerator. The handle had broken on the water dispenser a while back, in addition to my icemaker was not working. He took the model number and told me he needed to order the parts, that he’d take care of me. I was then informed that he had ordered the parts and when the parts came in, he called and rescheduled. He came in, changed the part out and made sure it worked before he left. When we shook hands, I made a friend. Brian was always on time. If he said he was gonna be there at 2:50, he was there then, if not 2:45. He was a very pleasant guy. We spent more time talking about family while he was working than we did him working. It was very good customer service and I would recommend him to anybody.

It was not a happy experience. Plus, the fact that it was one of these agents that were from the Philippines and there was somewhat of a language barrier. When I have to talk to one of those foreign agents, I can't understand them. My hearing is not the best however, they're very difficult to understand. If they're gonna deal in an English-speaking country, they need to be able to speak the language more clearly than they do. The first plumber thought that it was a broken mainline through the air conditioner. I don't know how the first contractor came up with that because that was not what the problem. The second people that AHS sent out, the guy just blew some nitrogen through the drainage PVC, and it stopped leaking. There was debris in there, probably dirty water buildup. It works fine now.

This is my first and I'm disappointed. American Home Shield sent out a guy from Plumbers Inc. and he just came up to the house, looked at the thing and said, “Oh, I see the problem right now. It's easy getting through to file claims. And I have called American Home Shield a few times just to do annual kinds of stuff. There was one company that took a little longer to respond. But usually, they respond within a few hours, let me know that they’ve received the request and that they could get out there. Usually, they were able to get out within 24 to 48 hours.

The tech did the best that he could. I was smelling a musty smell under the sink, and I wanted him to check to see if possibly there was a leak. He checked, and there was no leak that he could see inside the area. He went to the crawlspace and said he pulled back some insulation but he couldn't see anything. So he wasn't able to determine where it came from. However, I had another company to come out just looking for mold because it smelled like wet wood. My house is three years old so he wasn't sure if it was pre-construction or during the time that they were building. So he's going to use a dehumidifier, dry the area, and do some stuff and see if maybe that will get rid of the smell. So the guy that came out did what he was supposed to do.

I like the fact that if there is an issue, that is all I pay. But I have to use it enough to make it worthwhile. I like to have everything checked out. I'm a single woman and I like to know that my vents are clean, for my dryer. I like to know that my HVAC is working in good shape. So for peace of mind, I do it. I pay monthly and there's a deductible every time I call for service. And I have just wondered if it was a benefit. But it is nice to be able to just make a call. Because I had an issue with the stove. I had carbon monoxide leaking and the fire department had come out. And they came out, did some work, needed another part, and they didn't charge me for the other part or to come back out. So that was good. It was considered a continuation of service. So for people like me, it works.

My whole system went out and it flooded the downstairs unit. It happened on September the 29th. When you call American Home Shield, you make your payment and they say they would send out a person. The process is easy but it's a long time waiting. I received an email saying that a certain person would come out for my claim and that there was a little queue at American Home Shield. The contractor then gave me a call.

All American Plumbing installed our hot water heater and they did not install it to code from the beginning. I was then told that I needed to bring it up the code and I had to pay $450 for that. Another plumber that came out said that hot water heaters if they installed usually come with a pan. All American Plumbing didn't install the pan. I was trying to figure things out and make them right. If it's looking like it's starting to slant, all it needed was a pan. I told the tech to bring it up the code and I signed up the thing. The tech came out with a $5 pan and when I saw it, I was furious. The unit was rusted out and on the side, it was leaking. It made damages to my floor and my wall.

David with All American Plumbing said my hot water heater was not leaking. He proceeded to clean off this little valve that had rust all over it and put two little bolts on top of it. When I continued to question him even more, he then said the unit was leaking. I was really disappointed with All American Plumbing. I had all types of issues because all items went at the same time. All American Plumbing also still didn't fix my garbage disposal. They weren't good but they were given by American Home Shield.

I had another claim back in April. I called and complained about my issues with my unit. Carolina's Heating and Air said everything was just fine. I insisted that there was something wrong because the unit kept running. When a tech got here, he cleaned it up and did a tune up on it. The tech then said that he would make a recommendation to American Home Shield to replace the unit. American Home Shield automatically transferred the vendor because they ordered the wrong part.

The oven works great. I'm currently waiting for an air conditioner issue to be settled, but that's just waiting of parts. So, once that part gets in, the contractor will be able to come in and fix everything.

The master bedroom was not getting cool. We would have to drop the air down to the lower 60s in order to get some coolness in our bedrooms. So, we called, went through American Home Shield to get Air Majesty, and they came out. The guy said that he had put Freon in the system and that it should be cooling. The next day, it was still not cooling. That was when I called AHS back and the tech came out and he did a more extensive checking. He said that there was a problem with the ducts in the upstairs attic and it wasn't something that was covered under the warranty.

I've got a much small monthly payment that I can handle and budget for. My pool pump had gone out recently. The technician came and found the problem and fixed it without any issues. The fee was $75 to have them come out and fix it, whereas the other company that does my pool service would have been $125 for them to show up, so it's very reasonable.

It was very confusing. Then, we were getting text messages from two people. And so, my wife thought one was coming out and she cancelled it. Then, she contacted the other person and they said, "No. That's the person who's coming out." Other than that, we've had a good experience with AHS. Sometimes, the claim submission process is really easy and everything goes smoothly. Other times, like with my refrigerator, nobody seems to be able to figure out what to do to fix it. There have been at least 11 people. So, it has turned into a nightmare. Jones came out and they were wonderful but another one named Michael was like, "We don't do Freon. You need to have somebody that does Freon." So AHS sent another contractor and they thought they had the refrigerator fixed. They replaced some of the tubing and that didn't work because it died again after five weeks.

AHS wanted to send Jones again and he was liked, "Not again." So then, someone else came out, but they weren't certified. So, AHS sent out this other place and the tech didn't leave me a sheet that says exactly what he did. My understanding was that he replaced both of the compressors and most of the tubing. The refrigerator worked fine for another six weeks and then it died again. AHS then sent Boris who now works in Georgia but was Certified in California. He was so knowledgeable but he couldn't fix it because he was not certified to do Freon here. He said that it was obvious that I have a slow Freon leak and the only way to fix that is to get at it from the front of the fridge, not from the back. He told me what to do.

I called AHS again and they sent someone out. That young man said, "Well, yeah, it's freezing up". The only way to fix it was to unplug it for a couple of hours, let it defrost and then plug it back in. I looked at him and I was like, "Really? What are we supposed to do with all the food? Every six weeks or so, I'm supposed to take all the food out of it and let it defrost?" That tech left and another one named Abdul came. He took the front of the refrigerator apart and looked inside. He told me that because of the Freon leak, the compressors weren't working properly.

So, that leak has to be fixed in order for the compressors to work properly and then everything would be fine. I said, "Is this because of my fridge? Because everybody hates my fridge." Then he goes, "No, no, this is not common with this kind of fridge. The ice maker, that's always an issue." I said, "We have never had a problem with the ice maker." I've just taken a screwdriver to it and gotten all the ice out and it worked again. So, I was like, "It's a pain in the neck, but it's no big deal."

However, having no freezer is a big deal. American Home Shield calls me back and they said, "Well, it's the compressors. Because of the Freon leak, the compressors aren't working. But you need to get new compressors. So, your compressors are still under a five-year warranty. You need to call Samsung and they need to come out and give you new compressors." So I was like, "Wait a minute. Did you just hear what you said? Because I've been told, and you just said, the compressors are being negatively influenced by the fact that there's a Freon leak. That's the problem. I don't need new compressors again, I need the Freon leak fixed." The rep was not having it so I was like, "Okay, fine, I'll call Samsung."

Samsung was like, "We know you paid the $225 already, but we're going to charge you another $140 just to come to your house." They did and they ordered the parts they said and said they'd be back in two weeks. And then, the guy who was here goes, "The ice maker is not working." I said, "Oh, it doesn't work when the freezer doesn't work." And he goes, "They're two separate systems. They don't have anything to do with each other." And I'm like, "We've had this fridge for how long now? And I know that every single time they fix the Freon leak or reboot it, the ice maker works just fine again. So, obviously, they have to do with each other." He was like, "No, no, no. You need to call Samsung and tell them". Because apparently, everybody has this problem with this particular ice maker that they have a particular exception to the rule of the one year warranty on it.

I called Samsung and the rep goes, "Your ice maker isn't covered." I'm like, "What?" She's like, "No, you bought your fridge as is. So, your ice maker isn't covered." So now, I don't even know whether they're coming out to replace the compressors that don't need replacing because the original guy who came out four months ago put new compressors in. But other than that, everything has always been great with AHS. The scuttlebutt out here in the world is that American Home Shield is terrible about replacing air conditioning. When we got our air conditioner replaced, it was not a problem but we had to pay an awful lot of money because AHS didn't pay a lot towards it.

I'm glad that we have a home warranty. There's so much stuff that goes wrong. I find it to be very better safe than sorry.

There was an electrical failure that led to our refrigerator not working. I did a claim on American Home Shield's website and although they had a lot of choices, maneuvering through it was not hard. I ended up clicking the wrong button so there was a little confusion with the nature of the issue. I clicked the thing for a refrigerator repairman when I should have clicked the thing for an electrician. The guy who came was all prepped to fix the refrigerator but it turned out the problem was not in his zone.

He knew about electricity so he checked where everything was wired to in the fuse box and found that we had other problems in there with things burning out. He noticed that it wasn't wired correctly. He put a claim in for American Home Shield to fix the problem but American Home Shield said they were not fixing that because it was a structural issue. I have an older home and we've had some other issues in the kitchen with the way the house is wired. A home warranty isn't meant to be used to fix such kind of construction so I was understanding of their rejection of the claim. It wasn't part of the contract. Other than that, I had a few other claims and American Home Shield always sends somebody out pretty quickly.

We had an open leak that needed to be sealed off. I had a toilet that every time I flushed, it would flood right in the gap between the tank and the toilet bowl. And it turned out to have been a bad seal. The tech came out, looked and said, “Yup. We can do this. It qualifies.” He was upfront. He explained exactly what was going on. Did a thorough job. I asked him about something else about that and he said It was not something he could help me with. Because there was a problem with the faucet that fell outside the scope. So, he was very forthright about what worked and what didn’t, and was very good about taking care of what worked. American Home Shield is great, easy to work with, and does a good job. I liked the contractor they sent out. I would consider using them again for other plumbing stuff that is not related to home warranty.

I'm not happy with American Plumbing at all. The hose was leaking in my kitchen sink. The tech replaced that, that's fine. But now, my sink is broken. He damaged my sink. The second thing, I wanted all three toilets checked because they all flush strangely. He determined there was something lodged in one of them. But I know for a fact that it was just a normal clog. I told him "Can I try to flush it before you determine that there's something in it?" He said, "No, there's no need. There's something lodged in it. I can't repair it. It's not fixable." American Home Shield denied my claim because of this. But the next morning, I went to flush it and sure enough, it flushed.

I called for a second opinion and had to pay another $100 and have yet to hear from them. I'm waiting to find out what's going on with that. Then, the temperature control on my shower is not working correctly. He said that it was because the water heater is all the way downstairs. However, it was working fine a few months ago and we haven't changed the water heater.

American Home Shield needs to get better contractors. I've had issue after issue. At Bay Appliance is useless after they checked my refrigerator five times and still wouldn't determine it's not fixable. I just recently got another company to come because I was tired of waiting for At Bay Appliance. They have got one final part but that would not fix my refrigerator. It was just a light bulb. They told me that they couldn't come out for two weeks. They haddreplaced the fan inside my refrigerator, on top of five other parts. The only reason I noticed the fan wasn't working correctly was because the milk went bad and I almost served spoiled milk to my children. So, it's a very serious issue.

I am going to get a new refrigerator, finally. Because the second opinion finally came and checked the refrigerator and determined it's not fixable. It took four months before I finally got the go-ahead to get a new refrigerator. That's way too long. I have a family of six here. We have a backup fridge but at the same time, I need extra space because I have a large family.
