I have a health situation at home, we cannot live without AC, and Las Vegas is very hot during summer time. So I asked AHS if they could expedite repair and they were very cooperative. Then, the two technicians who came tested the unit and found out that the big capacitor was not functioning. They replaced it and the unit worked very nicely. They also tested the refrigerant in the unit and it was okay. But according to the technician, the refrigerant in the other unit was about two pounds short, so they refilled it with two pounds of refrigerant. To my understanding, American Home Shield pays $10 per pound, so I paid Doctor Cool directly $240 for the two pounds that they put in the air conditioner.

I'm grateful to them that they showed up. They gave me four hours of timeframe but they called me 20 minutes ahead of time per my request and said that they were heading to our house. And I was at the house waiting for them. All in all, American Home Shield really saved me because my wife is a cancer patient and she cannot live without AC.

My refrigerator was not keeping cool. The first company that was supposed to come was backlogged. So, AHS had to call another company. It was still within a couple of days, so it was good. I like that I can call any time and that the rep was able to Zoom in with me. She was able to take a picture of the serial number and the issue in case there needed to be a replacement. The rep did a diagnostic over the phone and thought it was one thing. But when the tech came, he knew what the problem was and took care of it. He did great.

In the spring of this year, we noticed that our air conditioning wasn't working as well as it should. Plumb R Us came out and topped off the coolant in our unit. Later on this summer, the unit was struggling again. Tin Smith came out and their tech determined that there was a leak in the system. He needed to do a leak detection test and he described what he was gonna do. After that, American Home Shield wanted to do a second opinion. Tin Smith took a week and a half to get back to us after they took the job. Plumb R Us was gonna do the second opinion. They took some time to get out as well and took over a week and a half to fill out the paperwork for the claim to verify whatever is going on. They just picked up and did the leak test last week. They determined that the system is leaking. They found the leak in the line or in the compressor. American Home Shield is just waiting on the paperwork on that to be submitted.

There's an issue every time we have to do something. We're either waiting for the contractor or American Home Shield. It's 100 degrees outside and I've been waiting two weeks on my air conditioning unit. American Home Shield said they talked to the contractor and the contractor said they haven't talked to American Home Shield. Hopefully, this gets squared away soon.

I obtained a policy from American Home Shield in September of last year when I purchased the home. I've only had to use it once and they were very efficient. They took the time to hear me out and expedite my call because it was an AC unit. So, even though the guy couldn't get here till the next day, they tried their best to get it within a matter of 24 hours. It just so happened the 24 hours still was not till the next day. But I haven't experienced any problems with them since. I was borderline between my payment due on that day and this happened, and AHS took the time to still push my claim through very well. They should keep up the good work.

The rep was very friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoyed the techs because they took the time to show me what my problems were. They took the time to answer any questions that I had and also showed me what was going on with my unit. The guy told me the unit may last another year but the problem may come back within the next couple of months. So, between that time and next summer, I will be looking to get another unit. That was good information to know. The guy was very people-oriented. His words made me go shopping around in the event. So, that way, AHS would know.

Submitting the claim over the phone was pretty easy but I had to make several calls and follow-ups. I kept calling over and over and over. Each time I called, they were telling me that nothing was recorded and nothing was recording and they have nothing. The last visit they have was back in June about the refrigerator and I had to keep calling and pressing the issue. But some of the contractors seemed to know what they were doing. American Home Shield helped me out a great deal. They have solved my problems. Other than the last issue that I have when I had to call several times, all my previous experiences have been positive.

I've been happy with the service that I've received from American Home Shield when I had to file a claim. Recently, the water heater wasn't staying hot. I filed a claim online. A couple of my other previous claims, there could be more options as to what the problem is. Other than that, it's easy to log in and do it on your phone. A lot of the times the service people try to find the easiest and laziest way out. And they would say, "No, we're here to fix your problem. And that's what we're going to do." So, he looked into it, opened things up and took the time to diagnose the problem. That kind of customer service these days is a lost art. He explained what the problem was and what he would do to fix it. And when he came back out when the part came in, he explained it all.

American Home Shield's service was okay but I talked to one guy that didn't want to help me at all. We were very happy with the one contractor that they wanted to provide for us, and then they couldn't find the provider. I had two tickets on one item, and then they wanted to charge me after the contractor contacted me for the second item. Apparently, Whirlpool only did one contract at a time. I said, "Well, that's not on me, that's on you. And now, you're inconveniencing us because you had me schedule an appointment, to find out that they couldn't schedule both the appointments with the same provider in the same day." One was for a dishwasher, one was for a dryer, and they couldn't service it. The guy couldn't help me, wouldn't do anything to help me, and wasn't accommodating at all.

Then, I called Whirlpool and Whirlpool told me, "All you guys had to do is open two tickets and the same provider can come out and look at the work." Home Shield told me that's inaccurate. They will have to charge me for both. I said, "This is ridiculous." So, it was very frustrating. I spent an hour on the phone with the appliance repair company, who was amazing, and I didn't get to use them.

The dishwasher claim was a horrible experience. When I called American Home Shield to come out, it took forever. They couldn't assign anybody and then the company couldn't come out. It was back and forth. I kept having the call to find out when they were going to come out and who was going to be involved. It was a big hassle from the beginning. When they finally scheduled the time to come out, they had to schedule it a couple of times because they canceled. When they finally made it out to my house, the gentleman that showed up worked on the dishwasher and stated something. It didn’t require a part to be replaced. But during his visit, he broke off the handle to the water spigot that gave water to the dishwasher. He told me he broke it off. But he wasn't going to fix it. But I had to call someone else through Home Shield to come and fix it.

It takes forever to get the part. I kept having to call to find out when it was coming. It was a ridiculous amount of time to get this part. I told American Home Shield that I have been going on without having a dishwasher for months and that they need to replace the dishwasher. But they never responded nor took care of it. Finally, the tech came out with the part. But he didn't fix the spigot. He told me, “I can't fix it. We're not going to fix it. You have to call, pay another $100, and have somebody else come out and fix it,” even though he was the one that broke it. The next day, I went in to run a load, and there was water everywhere in my kitchen. So I called them and told them that the dishwasher was flooding my kitchen and that the tech needs to come back and fix it. But nobody responded.

I ran the dishwasher again, and it didn't flood. So I'm a little bit relieved, but I'm still worried that it's gonna flood at any time again. They still haven't fixed the spigot, so I had to call American Home Shield. They said that I have to pay another $100 to have a plumber come out. The plumber came out, fixed it, and he told me, “Okay, I'm not going to charge you because of the circumstances, and then American Home Shield will take care of it.” He wasn’t gonna charge me. American Home Shield then started telling me that I have to pay the $100 to fix it when their first person was the one that broke it. It was a horrible mess and I hated it. My dishwasher was never fixed. My spigot was fixed, but I was still responsible to pay for it, even though the first company should have paid for it. They tried to send me to Collections for that $100.

After all of that, American Home Shield deleted all of my comments and all of my requests for services. So when I went into their system, all of those that showed that I was having problems were all deleted. Nobody contacted me and tried to resolve it for me. The dishwasher started giving me problems again. It still wasn't cleaning, even though the tech replaced that part. So at that point, I didn't trust them to come out, and I was disgusted with them. They should have replaced the dishwasher. So I canceled American Home Shield and went with another home warranty company.

I've been having a lot of issues with my home, so I've been having them come out and deal with some issues. Every time I call them out, they send people that are contracted under them but when I had them come out and look at the problem, it seemed like there's more to what the problems are. I'm spending a lot more money than I think I should. I’ve had them come out as far as with my central heating and air and some plumbing issues. I’ve had them come out with quite a lot of stuff. I’ve used them about five times and every time, they charged me $108, but I’m not getting the problem solved.

On June 15th, AMP Mechanical came out and was supposed to service my air conditioner under American Home Shield's plan. But they didn't clean my air conditioner and didn't service it. They just got their money and left. I still had problems where my air conditioner was not cooling and it was 85 degrees in my house. I tried to call their owner to talk to him about this situation and he refused to call me back. When I did research on them on the different websites, they have a horrible rating for doing things like this to other people. I’m gonna call the Better Business Bureau on them because that's fraud.

I called and told American Home Shield about the issue. I also asked them not to send the AMP Mechanical back. They sent White’s AC Service out. I had to pay another $100 for White's. That aside, White's was wonderful. Their tech checked everything. He took the cover off my air conditioner, came inside, and said, “Ma’am, before I touch your air conditioner, I need you to take a look at this.” I knew when I went outside what it was supposed to have looked like. My air conditioner couldn't breathe because no service was done by AMP.

I immediately got on the phone with American Home Shield and so did he. We told them what was going on so that the tech could fix my air conditioner. The system that he calls into was down that day. I was talking to customer service for two hours. The rep was wonderful. In the end, the tech had to clean the unit and do everything. I also talked to a supervisor at American Home Shield and they reimbursed the $100. I did have to pay White's $75 to clean my system.

I would call them every other day but I never got any results. Finally, they sent the Sears guy out here again and he told me it was nothing that he could do, that I was gonna have to pay for the visit then left. I was so frustrated.

I kept calling and American Home Shield sent Air Ducts. Mr. ** was a very nice, courteous man. He told me what the problem was. The freon had gotten out. He called for approval. First, they were saying I had to pay for it. Why would I have to pay for it when it wasn't done right properly the first place? Mr. ** fixed it and filled it in. Thank the Lord I haven't had any more problems so far. However, I didn't like the idea of talking to 500 different people and explaining myself and they kept telling me that they were going to get someone out here during that time but they didn't. I noticed they wait till the 30 days is almost up, then they'll say they'll cancel me. I had another incident with another company and it was the same thing. The rep told me, "What am I supposed to do? He already got paid for it." The tech was very nasty. I called American Home Shield and I told them not to ever send this man to my house again. I'm 66 years old. I don't need this hassle. If I'm paying for something, I would like some results.

We had an air conditioning problem and the temperatures where I live were well in excess of 100 so it was a health issue. Both my wife and I are seniors and we have respiratory problems. I let American Home Shield know all that and I know they just can’t jump to it. The air conditioning repairs in the heat of summer are tough to get technicians. But we had tried to do that on our previous service call and American Home Shield had recommended Northwind. They were excellent and I asked if we could please use them because we appreciated their service but the rep said Northwind was not taking orders. I asked if he could try and he said he could but to go ahead and schedule with a company that is available just in case he's unsuccessful.

I didn't hear back from American Home Shield and I called and called. I left messages that this was important and that I at least needed to make arrangements for my wife and my dog. Also, I wasn't getting a response back from the air conditioning company that they scheduled me with, Jet’s Electrical. I wasn't getting anything done. My wife called Northwind and they said they would come out to take care of it and to cancel the order with American Home Shield if they call to have the other company here and there will be no charge. I called American Home Shield and let them know that. They said they don’t know if they can pay for that and I told them to do their best to get the other company out here or I have it taken care of.

American Home Shield finally got ahold of Jet's because I was unable to talk to anybody. Jet's said they didn't have any record of the order. American Home Shield said Jet's has 48 hours to respond once they get the claim in. Jet's finally called me but by the time they called me, I already had the AC repaired. I called and told American Home Shield I'd like to be reimbursed and they said they would see what management says. They responded no and they quoted the contract boilerplate and that was that.

Also, we had two lights that were out. It wasn't an emergency but I thought I got American Home Shield on the line and I asked if we could make another order for an electrician. They sent an electrician out promptly. He was a nice young man and he fixed the problem in the master bedroom. It was a simple wiring thing. Then I showed him the kitchen and I told him it's probably a ballast. He said he has to call it in and he couldn't fix it. It's about the simplest thing an electrician can do. They usually have ballast in their vehicles but if not, I could go pick one up at any hardware store. He said he couldn't do it without authorization. I called American Home Shield and told them and they refused that. They called it a fixture so it’s not covered.

The well and the air conditioner were hooked up to the same breaker box. Every time we would turn our well off, the air conditioner would go out. The first time I called though, I was charged $75 and the techs never came out because the AC came back on when we turned the well back on. The second time, I had the tech check it and he showed us all that. AHS is a home security to make sure that mostly everything I have is covered. But they're a high price I have to pay every year.

I had an AC issue and the techs were very professional, patient and knowledgeable. The only issue was how long it took to get the parts which wasn't the problem of the AC company. Home Shield wants to order the cheapest parts and I get that. But it's kinda like one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing. Other than that, AHS has helped me with other issues. They have been great. They're not completely terrible. Just this time, it wasn't good.

My garbage disposal was leaking. AHS gave me a reference number and a phone number for the plumbing company that had been assigned. They contacted us that evening and they wanted to come the next day. But we were going to be out of town so they had to wait until we got back. The young man who came was early. He assessed the item and replaced it with a new one. He was very polite and he cleaned up his mess which was different from some of the experiences that I've had in the past. He made sure there was no water on the floor and nothing was leaking. I was very pleased. This is the best experience I've had with AHS.

AHS has also replaced a refrigerator which was an ongoing thing that finally got resolved. But I'm still having issues with an ice maker that they have attempted to fix a couple of times but we just deal with it. Also, we had a hot water issue and we didn't have any hot water for a week. I wasn't happy with the fact that when I called with something like a hot water heater, I have to wait for a long period of time for somebody to come out. We were told that it needed to be replaced. And then we were told, “No, we're gonna fix it.”

Overall, AHS is like going to the doctor. You're not always gonna be pleased with everything all the time. But money-wise, if something really major happens, the warranty is worth it because of the fact that I can pay $75 and have what has a problem replaced.

Doctor Cool made me wait a whole week and then they lied. I didn't agree with what they said and the man got smart with me when I told him that. They submitted some copy to AHS and AHS said they were gonna pay for part of it. But then, I called Doctor Cool the next morning and the rep said the claim was totally denied. I called AHS back and they said it was not covered.

I called AHS and asked for a second opinion. They sent out A&R. I've had this company here before and they were a very good company. A young man, Jeremiah, came and said that it was another pipe that was leaking. But he said he couldn't fix it because he was just here for a second opinion. That was the end of that. It had been three weeks and it was not going anywhere. My pipe was still leaking and I had to come out of pocket and buy an AC.

They've always been very responsive. On occasion, we've had some vendors that have been slow to the table. But for the most part, when we need something, it is available. We had a short in our garage and in our bathroom upstairs recently and we couldn't figure out what it was. We had someone come out and assist us. But we had to follow up with them. But we finally got it addressed and it was all right. The technician was knowledgeable and was able to help us.

When the inspector came through before we bought the house, he found that while the kitchen faucet worked, it was spraying out the side at one of those pull down things and it was spraying at the base of the hose, which it shouldn't have been. It was like it needed to be replaced. When we got to the house and actually moved in, I went to turn on the water and no water came out with a streaming function. It came out with the spray function and it squirted all over the place. So I called AHS and they sent out a plumber. The plumber decided it was a “pre-existing condition” so they refused to do anything with it.

AHS then sent out a second group who confirmed that it was a pre-existing condition. The problem was that the water streaming through the faucet did work and they didn't touch it at all. Fortunately, I went somewhere else for a completely different unrelated thing, specifically to get softened water, and when the guy came in, first thing he wanted to do was test the water. So he turned on the kitchen faucet and got sprayed all over the place. By then, a friend of my real estate agent came in, put the head of the faucet off, and found a whole bunch of sediment in there. He found lots of rust flakes clogging the faucet so that it had had no stream of water. The plumbers could have fixed fixed and that really irritated the dickens out of me. However, the water softener people said that they'd throw in the faucet. So they replaced the faucet at no cost to me.

On the other hand, AHS Home Shield did nothing except pawn the issue off as a pre-existing condition. That is baloney because we had pictures that were in the inspection report showing a stream of water, even though it also showed that it was leaking around the hose and above the head. So I found that a very unpleasant response and a very disingenuous refusal to look at the evidence. Our real estate agent also reached out to the American Home Shield representative and explained what happened. The representative agreed with her, said that it was not handled properly and she was going to follow it up. But I never got any such response from the person with whom I dealt by email.

I told him that I tried to open it up to see what I could figure out to fix it. He said he judged that it had been down from before I got the contract. He told us it could not be repaired 'cause it was old damage. But AHS and the contractor never sent me a report on what the tech actually found. It was icing up in the back, and the fan wouldn't work. I was a little skeptical at first ‘cause when American Home Shield said that Accord was gonna help us, I went to look for reviews on them, and they had all seriously bad reviews. I thought American Home Shield is another home warranty company that doesn't do what they're supposed to do, but they did. The repairman went over and beyond. I found two different leaks which I thought were the same thing, but they were two different incidents that happened to break at the same time. One was my shower that was leaking. I can feel the floor soaked. Then there was another bathroom that's over the garage where the water was leaking onto the garage. At that time, I started the claims process with American Home Shield through the computer. Going online, I can do it right away, and then it's all taken care of, as opposed to a lot of times when I call, I get a thing where it's any wait between 20 to 30 minutes, and I had to leave my number for them to call me back. I’d rather do it over the computer where I can just get on it, do it, and then it’s done.

AHS could improve with the personnel that answers the phone. There were some that I had a hard time understanding. As a matter of fact, with this latest issue, I called and they would put me on hold because they said they were going to talk to the company. When they put me on hold, they hung up. So, they didn't call me back. I called back again, so I had to explain myself all over again to the new representative. I went three times. They kept disconnecting me. I don't know if they're not familiar with their phone systems to the point where I just didn't want to do it because they would put me on hold for quite some time and then it would just disconnect. Then, I called again and had to re-explain myself. They put me on hold. I got disconnected. I called again. They put me on hold. Finally, I called the plumbing company directly and they said they were going to talk to American Home Shield.

Another thing I was dissatisfied with was that there was something in my agreement that says I am covered for the plumber to cut through drywall to have access. The plumber did not want to do that. I called American Home Shield and one representative told me, “Yes. You know what? We're going to have someone to go out there to give access to the plumber. But we don't have anyone available right now. Please give us a call by tomorrow. We should have an answer for you as to who’s going to go.” I waited 24 hours. I called back. Then they told me, “Oh, no. We don't cover it.” I was like, “Well, your representative from yesterday just told me to call back today because there was none available. And now you're telling me that you guys are not going to cover it.” It was a headache that I ended up paying out of pocket.

The part that comes up ad sprays water in the dishwasher broke. The tech fixed that piece and also cleaned out the filters. However, the piece still gets stuck between the tray. I told the tech that it's not going down all the way down like it should when it's done squirting all that water around. I also had him check my dryer out as it was taking three cycles before it would fully dry my clothes. The tech said that the temperature is getting where it needs to be but he couldn't make sense of why after 30 minutes, the dryer would just shut off.

The tech was really good. He informed me about a lot of stuff and talked about preventative stuff too. He was very thorough with what he did as well which I liked because a lot of times, technicians try to speed everything up but then they miss steps. He took his time and cycled the dishwasher to make sure it worked properly. He checked the temperature on it too. Then, he also stayed for a while with the dryer to see what was causing it to shut off. The coil at the back had gotten a bit bent. He shortened that coil that hooks up from the dryer to the wall and cleaned out the dryer part that all the lint goes to. He also thought the vent needed to be cleaned out. So I have a company coming this week to check that out.

I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. If a repair is done, or if an appliance goes out and it can't be fixed, I have coverage with them. The price is affordable for me, too.

Several years ago, we bought a Samsung refrigerator that had the ice maker up on the top where the refrigerator is and the freezer was down below. The ice maker kept freezing over. It would work for a month then it would be frozen until we broke the ice up again. We did a claim and American Home Shield's online claim process was easy to figure out. We had Maughanster Appliance come out. They have been out several times before so we know them already. They replaced the ice maker but that didn't do the fix. This last time they came out, they put in a special kit that was provided by Samsung that was supposed to fix the problem. So far, so good.

American Home Shield is a little bit harder to deal with. For one thing, we pay them a monthly premium. But any time that we want a service contractor to come out, we have to pay again, which is bothersome. Also, we don't get to choose which contractor we want to come out. I don't like that because I like to know who's coming out to our house. They should make it possible for us to actually put in the service contractor that we want to come out to our house at the same time we're putting in the service request. Also, we're always dealing with service centers and it's frustrating sometimes trying to get something done. Overall, American Home Shield is too expensive and there's too much administration.

Our house wasn't staying cool and I was told it may have been a thermostat issue. The guys that came in figured out the problem and they did something. The unit started working and they left. But in two days, the issue happened again and I called the service company. The person I spoke with said he knew the problem and that I had to call Home Shield directly, which I did. The technician came back and realized that there was a short in the computer board that turns on the fan. He could feel the Freon and we could feel everything getting cold. The external fan will come on but the internal was intermittently not coming on when the thermostat was supposed to come on.

I changed the thermostat because I had purchased a new one. I put the old one back on. It worked for a minute and it did it again. The technician said it had to be something else. Technicians came back three days later, tested it, and after finding out it was the board, they ordered that part. The board came in about six days later and the technicians came and put it in. Everything's working.

What they did was great. For that time period that the board was not there, the technician took some wire and had the fan blowing constantly. At least the house was getting airflow and the thermostat was gonna come on and make the refrigerant work when it needed to. The fan would just be continuously going but I could deal with a little higher electric bill for a week because we could sleep at night. Those days, it was at 90 and 100 degrees. I was very pleased that the technicians found a solution while we waited. They walked me through things and told me exactly what they were doing.

One of the benefits of having a home warranty is they have an outlet of certified people that they trust to do the work. Sometimes having a deductible can be somewhat of a pain. But having a deductible and only having to pay that versus $500, $600, $700, or $1,200 at any given time or a couple of times a year can put a strain on you.

I've had three claims to American Home Shield in the last eight months, and they've all been resolved. I did the claim online, set up the appointment, and got a call from the provider that they had listed within a couple of hours after the appointment was submitted depending on what time or first thing the next morning. The technicians have all been professional and really helpful. The only one that had to come back was the plumbing. It was an outside issue. Overall, having AHS is very beneficial for me, especially with these little things that come up that can be costly. Just paying the $100 deductible and not having to worry about it is good.

They know who to call. You just gotta keep following up on some things, like when I had problems with my air conditioner. I had to call the company five times. Because they said they fixed it but they didn't. They had to come back a couple of times. But other than that, I'm fine with AHS.

I love AHS. We just bought another house. We got it again on that house. This is definitely a company we're gonna stick with. Knowing that if something breaks in our house that we don't have to pay thousands of dollars to get it fixed. They're always super friendly and fast. They would fix it. If they can't fix it, I’ll have them come out again. We actually got a new stove 'cause they couldn't fix our stove. They gave us a new one with no hassle. It was really easy and a really positive experience. I definitely recommend it to all my friends and family that own their houses. It's a really good peace of mind.

It was a clogged pipe. I looked at my policy, because I have extended care insurance on all my appliances which are new. I went down from American Home Shield's full coverage to just having a systems coverage. I looked and it said stoppage was covered. So, I called and spoke to a lovely young woman and said, “Please do whatever you can to expedite this ‘cause I have a dinner party tomorrow night.” She did. And she gave me the phone number of Plumbers, Inc. She said, “You know, maybe you can call them and get in on a cancelation,” which I did. And they had a cancelation. They were out immediately. The guy was very nice and he fixed it immediately. So, it was a very positive experience.

Unfortunately, and I read what they sent me what was covered, but when I called back and I said I have laminate floors, and because of the water, they billowed, and he said, “We don't cover secondary damage.” So, I didn't see anything in what they sent me in terms of coverage saying that they do not cover secondary, but that's what he told me. So, I just hoped he was right. I'm trying to repair it myself by putting three pieces of tile on where it billowed and hoping that if it dries out, it will go back down flat. I would have liked AHS to cover secondary damage, but there were no complaints at all. If they don't cover secondary damage, they need to put that in the contract of coverage.

The clothes dryer of the washing machine was not spinning, there was water in the drum, water would just run and wouldn't stop, and I couldn't open the door. Sears came out and sent some parts. Then, the guy came back and fixed the washing machine but that did not completely repair it. They had to address the drum part so they had to order another part and two people came out to put that in. The contractor came out three times in total and they were the best that AHS ever sent out. The other people they sent didn’t know anything and they’d tell you anything. I also had one person who did his work, but his attitude could have been worked on.

Before Sears came out, I was ready to change my warranty provider because Sears is right here and I see that truck around here all the time, but AHS would send somebody here from 30 miles away. If they're coming from too far and they're not going to have the parts in the truck, they're not going to want to come back. I've also had to decline some contractors because of their bad ratings. Aside from that, when I had mold in my refrigerator, they kept sending people out here who were not repairing it. So I had to buy a new one. Then they have that dumb commercial on TV saying that they replace appliances, but nobody ever replaced anything of mine.

A tech came out for the electrical box out there in the garage. One of breakers kept going off. He checked it and went around the house to see what could be making it go off. He couldn't find anything. I asked him to check the ceiling fan. I said, "I had a light bulb that's stuck in there in the thing when I got it out." I had a hard time getting it out. He said, "We don't do ceiling fans. I'll fix it, but you have to pay extra for it." My ceiling fans are under the warranty. I thought the light kits was a part of it. He got the piece that I left up there. That piece was what was tripping. I haven't had any problems with my lights cutting off.

There was a guy that came prior to this tech. He was just trying to make money telling me the fix was gonna be $800 or $900. He got to rewire the house and I sent him away from here. He went back to American Home Shield and told them it gonna be $1,500 for him to fix my breaker. I asked American Home Shield not to send him back out here because this just started and my box is fairly new. They told me they would not send him back out here but they did. I didn't want him back because I didn't trust him. I knew that he was lying. I sent him away from here.

I called American Home Shield and I said, "I asked you all not to send that same man back out here because he doesn't know what he doing. All he did was go up there and bounce like he had needed to use the bathroom. He was very unprofessional." I've been with American Home Shield for years and I've never had anybody like him before. I hope he never comes back here.

Also, I'm still having a problem with my air conditioner. Techs never came back to fix it from last year. I pay $75 every time they come out here. I can have the air conditioner on. It gets hot in here. I was sent some young man and he just came here and put an old cheap thermostat. Ever since then, I have had nothing but problems. I was so upset with him because my husband paid a lot of money for that good thermostat that he took out. Also, the fee has gone up to $88. I didn't know that until yesterday when I had a service call.

Then they told me after the first guy didn’t come out that they didn’t have anybody but they were trying to find somebody. In the end, a guy from another company came out and fixed the issue in about 30 minutes. He was super. He was very courteous and he knew what he was doing. Apparently, the unit blew a fuse in the thermostat. Everything is good now.

The thing that makes my microwave spin to get hot was broken. AHS replaced my whole microwave and let me choose whichever microwave I wanted. I have a huge list and they would give me a gift card at Lowe's Home Depot. It was awesome and the process was really quick. The techs they sent out were easy to work with and in the end, having the warranty saved me 1,000s of dollars.

AHS also sent someone out for my AC but I didn't feel like they really knew exactly what they were doing. They said I needed a new compressor and it was going to cost American Home Shield a fortune. And the copay for me was going to be way higher because the unit uses an old type of coolant that the EPA doesn’t really want to work with anymore. So, they had a little issue with buying it and disposing of it. It was going to cost $2,700 out of pocket and the techs were going to charge Home Shield $6,000. I thought they could have gotten a whole new AC unit for that much and saved us both money, and I would have a better more efficient use in it.

So, I called Home Shield to tell them that the deal was wrong and I wanted I second opinion. They agreed and didn't even hesitate. They got a new person here within 24 hours to review it and didn’t charge me a new deductible to send out a second opinion. When the second opinion techs came out, they said the unit did not even need a new compressor, or if it would have, they were going to see if they could just help me get a new unit because it would be less money. It was a completely different thing and they just fixed it. American Home Shield also didn’t charge me anything extra and they were really cool about it.

We pay insurance to AHS every month to be in the position to live with a malfunction fridge for the entire summer and AHS said they do not have a time limit to fix the fridge, and all we have to do is to continuously wait for different technicians to inspect/order parts to try out. Please reconsider if this is ok with you before you buy insurance. Would it be ok for you to wait for MORE THAN THREE MONTHS to fix a fridge????

Recently, I did a claim online, and it was easy. The website is very intuitive. The tech who came did a good job too. He was professional, and he did the step-by-step diagnostic. He looked at the circuit if there was an issue with it, then he came in to see the inside system because he couldn't find anything wrong outside. He realized that there was a safety trip switch we tripped off, then he explained a few steps I needed to do. Because I had a heat pump. So, there’s a drainage, and that needs to be cleaned and make sure it doesn’t get stuck. It trips as a safety. After he told me those things, he was done and gone.

American Home Shield has some good vendors who do active work, but I also had very different experiences in the two cases. Family Heating & Cooling did the recent service and they were a good vendor, unlike Horizon. I had a bad experience with them. The service went very well, but the system was leaking, and they charged a lot of money for the refrigerant. I understand this system. If the refrigerant leaks, you also see the lubricant come out, and I totally forgot about the leak when the guy asked me, “Do you want me to charge?” He showed me the pressure and all they did. They didn’t stay for more than one day, and I paid about them $1,200.

I’ve had AHS in two homes. I got my first one in 2019, and then I have one at my current home. I loved it in Texas. The service there was outstanding. In Nevada, it’s a little bit different. I had problems with my air conditioner in both locations. In Texas, they came out and looked at it. My air conditioner was tripping the breaker. The techs started swapping parts. They came out on two occasions. Once they swapped the condenser and the motor, everything was resolved. No problems with them out there. It was great.

Fast forward a couple of years, I’m in Nevada now, having the same exact issue. I had the tech come out. He looked at the unit. “Looks like that motor was probably not original. That could be the problem. I don’t see the breaker trip, so I can’t really verify that.” I said, “I’m an electrician. I know the breaker tripped. I’m paying you guys to come to do this.” He said, “All right, next time, either leave the breaker tripped or take a picture of it.” I said, "I’m not doing that. I need to reset it. The house gets hot. I live in Vegas.” So, I sent him a picture. He said, “Okay, I see that. We’ll come back out.”

They came back out, went over the same thing, did not really find anything more. I talked to a supervisor. On the third visit, they replaced something. He tried some off-method type thing. Seemed to have worked, but tripped one more time. So, they sent out a secondary contractor. They did the same thing that everybody else did, just looked at it. There were a lot of steps involved. It was an entirely different level of service. All the subcontractors are professionals, I have no issues with any of them. They explained that the AHS procedures were a lot different and that they would get in trouble if they start replacing parts. Or they could get dropped as a vendor from AHS if it’s costing too much on a service call.

But having AHS is having peace of mind if you have something major that goes out, knowing that somebody is gonna show up. The rates are gonna be cheaper, as well, to get a service call than if I call somebody. The turnaround time is also quicker. Usually within 48 hours, somebody gets assigned to you. Overall, it's good.

I had no air conditioning. The blower stopped working. Unfortunately, it was on a holiday weekend. The techs had to look at it to assess what was wrong. They told me that the fan motor had completely come apart from the rest of the unit. So, we had to order one. However, there was a delay because American Home Shield had to decide whether they were going to honor the claim and the tech told them that the unit could not be repaired because it had come apart. After that, there was also a delay in getting the part in. They shipped it within 30 miles of my house and the tech just told them, “I’ll just come and get it. Don’t ship it.” He went up there to get it but they shipped it again, 30 miles. It took a week for it to come 30 miles. It was a very bad experience. But the AC works very well now.

My most recent claim to American Home Shield was the oven. The heat wasn't coming on. The techs did have to order parts but they fixed it. The parts were sent to me and I figured, "Well, they know they're here and they'll give me a call." No one called me about it, but I guess I was supposed to call them and let them know that the parts arrived. I said, “Oh, I gotta call and see what's going on with this.” A day turned into a week and a week turned into two, but I guess it’s just a misunderstanding on my part. Overall, I had a very good experience with American Home Shield.

Having a home warranty gives us peace of mind, especially since we just bought our house. When you're spending a lot of money for a house, you don't want to move in and have something go wrong. A home warranty helps. We had a situation on July 4th where our AC went out. The process is pretty streamlined. You go online and you submit a claim. Since it was hot, getting an AC tech took a while. I didn't like that. American Home Shield then tried to deny the claim so it was a month-long battle. I was a little upset about that.

The first AC guy that came out knew what was happening. He said the condenser was done. There was a sprinkler in front of the condenser and it was sprinkling away from the condenser. I was then told, “You're low on Freon so there's a leak in the condenser somewhere. You got full coverage. Everything looks good.” The guy called his boss and his boss was denying the claim. I have unlimited Freon for when there are leaks. I asked if he could put some Freon and I was told I would have to pay for it. That was not cool. I called and complained. My local rep, Pam, was great and she said to get a second opinion.

The first opinion was Friday, going into 4th of July. I was able to get the tech out there Saturday. The second tech that came said he was just there for a second opinion and can't do anything for me that day. He said the first service company would have to do the work. It took a whole other week to get the feedback from that tech. By this time Pam escalated the situation and I got some guy named Derek. He didn't do anything. He was there to take care of the problem but he was sitting on his hands. He said to call anytime but didn't answer the phone nor call me back. I'm like, "What's the holdup? Let's get it replaced.” The two techs said the condenser needed to be replaced but their bosses say differently.

I told the tech that if he could fix it, fix it. But the second tech said, “No. Can we fix it? I'm sure we could, but it will only just spring another leak. You really need a new condenser.” After almost two weeks, we were told they will change the condenser. The part that I don't like is they have these modification fees to bring things up to code. American Home Shield has $200 if you need to do an upgrade or pull a permit. I have $250 of credit that I shouldn't have to pay, but the AC company said, “It's $600 to connect the electrical, $600 to connect the pipe for the Freon, and $150 For the permit.” It ended up being 2,200 bucks. A TXV valve would be another $600.

I can buy the condenser by myself for 3,000 bucks and have somebody put it in. My electrician would not charge me that much to come out and connect the electrical for the condenser. That takes five minutes. But the piping to connect the Freon was a little more involved. I'll pay for that. As for the TXV valve, they didn't even do anything with that the first time around. They charged me for something I didn't get. I paid it because I have a four-and-a-half-year-old here and a 90-year-old grandmother living with me. We needed to get the AC back going. They got the condenser installed. It worked for about a week and it went down again.

The techs took their sweet time and said they had other jobs. Derek, the escalation manager, was doing nothing. I finally had to threaten them. I also had to call Pam again. I copied her on the email and she understood the gravity of the situation. She called whoever the contract relations person was. We got them to come out and they actually went and there was a TXV valve already installed. That was taken out and something else called a piston was put in. Since then, the unit has been running fine. The whole thing took about a month.

My rep Pam got me $150 back on the permit. I have a $250 credit that comes with the warranty for permits. They charged me $450 so I have a credit with American Home Shield. The AC company was charging me another 250. I said, “They haven't pulled the permit so give me back my money.” They pulled the permit and the inspector came and took care of that quickly. It's costs $100 for an E-permit. Derek didn't smell like he took time out of his day to go down to the city to pull the permit. Everything's online. This is excessive. It was the same thing with electrical. I can call my electrician for the house call and he'll charge me 200 bucks but not $600.

Overall, it's still a good deal. It was under $2,000 for a new condenser that cost 3500 plus installation. It was just knowing that I was being taken advantage of and that was upsetting. Despite that experience, I will be renewing with American Home Shield as there are other things. Now, they say that the new plan has $1,500 for these “modifications and upgrades.”

This one claim was a good situation but some of the contractors they have sent out are lousy. It takes multiple times to get the issue fixed. I had American Home Shield a long time ago and I wasn't happy with their service. I went back to them because the other company I had was horrible. This time, they got their act together and they're awesome. I'm loving my service and they fix a lot of things. I did a claim for our garbage disposal that wasn't working. I was able to get an appointment for the next day. The tech repaired the garbage disposal and it was an easy repair. He was done in about 10 minutes.

I have peace of mind with my home warranty. Just keep in mind the value of the work that they're doing to make it worth it. For example, one repair alone can pay for an entire year of their service. My only thing is sometimes when I call to place an order, it happened to me a couple of times where the person answering the phone barely speaks English. Either it's a language barrier or their accent is heavier than mine that I can't understand them.

Cool Factory came out for the air conditioner that completely quit working. They diagnosed it as a bad capacitor and based on that, they replaced the capacitor. The next day, it rained. And then the next day, it was clear. I was outside and heard the familiar sound of the compressor running but not the fan. So, I went over and looked at it, and then the fan that cools the compressor was not running. So while I was watching it, the fan kicked on and started running. Cool Factory happened to call me to see if everything was working right and I mentioned to them that strangely enough the compressor was humming but the fan wasn't working. While I was staring at it, it popped on and it made a big jolt sound.

They said, “Okay. When the capacitor went out, it obviously damaged the circuits in the fan, too, so the fan would probably have to be checked.” So, they sent a technician out who checked the fan and said, “Yep, the circuit’s bad and we have to order a new fan.” They came out, replaced the fan, and everything's been great.

She called me and told me how many days the part was gonna take to be here. It came and the person came. In less than half hour, the job was done. They did a very good job. I've been with American Home Shield since 2014. I keep trying to tell my son to get American Home Shield. He tells me the contractors here don't like American Home Shield because they don't pay the bills. I've heard that too from a lot of the plumbers in town. But I still keep American Home Shield. It takes a little bit to get ahold of them, but they do do the job.

Last year, I went up to their premium account. Every time I called in my bill, they would tell me I have two home warranties. Every month, they tell me they're gonna take care of it but they never do. Also, American Home Shield doesn't have enough contractors especially plumbers. A plumbing company had the nerve to tell me, "We can't get to you till the end of the week," which was the following week. I got pissed. I needed to take a shower. They were gonna make a complaint about me because I told them off. I had to hire my own plumber and he fixed the issue in 10 minutes.

My air conditioning unit went out twice this summer and I had American Home Shield send somebody out both times. They had somebody out fairly quickly. Unfortunately, I had to wait a little while for the party to come in for the second time because they had to order a part. That aside, the technicians were knowledgeable and they got the job done. I was a little bit miffed whenever they had to drain the Freon from my current system and they vented it directly into the closet where my furnace is at. The entire closet is coated in oil now. They didn't clean up anything and just stuck a tarp in there and hoped for the best. Working on an air conditioning unit in a house that's sitting at 97 degrees Fahrenheit is pretty bum so I can't really blame them for wanting to get out.

My experience with American Home Shield has been good so far. I like that I can report something in the middle of the night. That's been particularly helpful because I am usually awake at nights. American Home Shield is doing a fairly decent job so I don't foresee us changing our provider for our home warranty anytime soon.

Also, AHS has a process where you can request a second opinion when something is denied. But they only give you seven days from the denial to do it. the only way I learned about it is because I called 10 days after because I didn't receive any information that my claim was denied. I was told it was too late because I called after seven days. It would be great if AHS could make that more transparent.

Other than that, our other claims have gone well. An electrician was here for some outlets that were not working and he resolved that problem pretty quickly. We also had a rekey which went great as well. When I call AHS, their customer service reps are all very nice.

I had to pay my $100 for them to tell me that. It would be nice if a representative could tell us beforehand instead of taking our money to send somebody out to tell us no.

One of the things that I had them come out on was my dishwasher. There were mouse droppings up underneath the dishwasher. After the techs came in three times and worked on the dishwasher, they finally said, “It's too old. My AC stopped working and it couldn't hold the temperature. It kept being erratic and setting off. My father is 91 years old and he lives here. We got extremely hot and I was trying to find out what was taking so long for the defrost board the technicians were trying to get. When the technician left, he said that was probably what the issue was. It took so long for them to get back in contact with me that I had to go buy a portable AC unit for $400 and put it in my father's room because the temperature was going close to 100 degrees in the house.

I called back and American Home Shield kept saying they were waiting for the part. When I asked how long that was going to take, they said when the inventory comes back. That scared me because what if the inventory doesn't come back until October or November? I kept getting the runaround and I blame the process. American Home Shield put the blame on the contractor Mays Heating and Air. They said they couldn't get anything done until they were told what to do. They took a while to answer the phone and they kept saying the same thing, “As soon as they give us feedback, we'll let you know.” I told them I was recording everything and I really wanted to get done.

I found a part locally at four or five different places. I told American Home Shield that maybe I could just hire somebody else. I was told to wait a little longer and to just put the portable unit in my dad's room. I'm not rich so I didn't want to hire a company and then go get somebody else to do the work while they were still waiting on the part. I kept putting the heat down on American Home Shield. A young guy finally came back and got the AC working a couple of days ago.

I had a claim for my hot water heater too and I was told that American Home Shield denied the claim. I bought my own hot water heater and had it installed. American Home Shield then called me back and said, “No. That's not what we said. What we said was we're going to go and pay for the labor and the hot water heater.” They said they were gonna get in contact with the contractor because that was not what they told them. It’s gonna take another three, four weeks to get my reimbursement back. I really have a bad taste in my mouth. I already paid over $1,000. All these things messed up about a week apart. On the whole, I'm not gonna get rid of American Home Shield because they did what they said but it wasn't in a timely manner.

The service of AHS has been good. I had one service call that never got completed. But that was the only thing that I had not been happy with. The claim was that I had a leak and the Waldorf Plumbing came down. The tech walked back to where I was complaining of my leak. He said he didn't have stuff with him to make the correction, and that he would come back. But he never did and they never called. I called the office to schedule him to come out again, but they never returned the phone call and he has not shown up. I also had an earlier claim. I have a JennAir cooktop and they were not able to replace the switch. They said they would see if JennAir could rebuild the switch. Apparently, they couldn't. My cooktop is usable, but I cannot use my grill safely.

AA Dependable Appliance Service came out recently and they were excellent. The tech looked at the situation that I had and indicated that the part that my refrigerator would have to have, he would have to speak with AHS to make sure if they could fix it, then he would come back to fix it. If they couldn't, they would make other arrangements. They sent me a list of comparable refrigerators and I selected one that was comparable and they replaced it. Now, that was seamless. That was one of the best situations that I had. I also had an electrical thing done. The guy that came was very good. He did what he was supposed to and was seamless. AHS is worthwhile. I've recommended AHS to a couple of family members and they were deciding whether they were going to take out the warranty as well. For the most part, I'm happy with AHS.

The techs who came out for my recent AC claim were very good. They just couldn't find the problem. It was starting to go out. But when they would come in the morning, the air would be okay. But then, by the afternoon, it would not be working as well. But they finally found the problem when it totally stopped working and they came and saw I was 85 in my house. They were quick. It happened on Sunday and they were out by Monday morning at 10:00.

We purchased a new home and when the AC had been inspected, it was running fine. Then, all of a sudden, it just would stop running. I made a claim online and the website was perfect. Then, AHS gave us all of the information, who would be coming out, and the phone numbers. Then, I made an appointment with the contractor and the techs came out within the next day. They were timely, friendly, and very quick. They put in a new transformer up in the roof where my AC is and it started running again. It took them a day to get the part, but that was understandable and we had our AC back on a lot faster than we thought.

Leaking water from the ac poured down causing us on 3 occasions to open up ceilings, beams, walls and sink cabinets to repair water damage to the property. Once you read through the end you will see how American Home Shield failed as an insurance company to do the right thing and continued to attempt patch jobs without consideration of damage to the property, loss of rent due to the tenant moving out because of not being able to use the ac, wasting everyone's time and causing us to create a greater carbon footprint with repeated vendors needing access to the unit without resolution. Because this was taking so long we had two other reputable AC Companies out that are not affiliated with AHS. Both said the unit was not repairable. I've included one of the reports below so you have a reference. This was also supplied to Derek ** w/ AHS.

AHS was called in August of 2021 as the ceiling and walls of unit 823 are saturated and destroyed due to water leaking down from the ac into the unit. We were told after the service that the tenant needs to clean the filter vent every 3 months and the tech said he cleaned the condensation line. He said the issue was repaired. We had the damaged bathroom repaired. A month and a half later October 2021 the bathroom is damaged again from water leaking down from the ac unit. Ceiling and walls need to be opened and repaired. We notified Carrie ** the AHS sales rep at the time. AHS Second Vendor came out in October of 2021. The technician said he reworked the condensation line and made an adjustment and the unit is working fine. We resealed the ceiling and walls and repaired all damage in the bathroom.

July 15th, 2022 the tenant notifies us that the ceiling, walls and medicine cabinet and sink are all saturated with water. We are now in touch with Katie ** w/ AHS and we are put in contact with Derek ** w/ AHS. AHS sends out an ac technician who says a part needs to be replaced as it's too old and not this part is no longer available. The unit is approx 23 years old. He recommends replacing the unit. I am given a receipt from the ac company. I speak to them directly and they reiterate what the technician told me in person. I spoke to Derek ** at AHS who claims the ac company told him the coil has areas with bends and this was not normal "wear and tear". "Not normal wear and tear" was not on the ac receipt I received directly from the ac tech and American Home Shields vendors are the only techs who have serviced the unit for over 20 years. Derek denies our claim. See below and the attached vendor receipt and chain of emails.

A second vendor is assigned the job and comes back saying the same thing as the first. The coil and pan needs to be replaced. He said the part is not available anymore. They also said the bent coil is not the issue as every ac has bent coils. Oddly, after waiting on Derek to get the report from the ac company, Derek denies the claim once again. He states the ac company told him there was no P Trap. Again, very odd this was never mentioned by the tech when he was at the property. There in fact is a p trap and I had a picture of it. I sent it over to Derek. After repeated attempts we request that this be escalated to a supervisor with no success. We reached out to Monica ** w/ AHS as she is now involved on all emails. Derek then orders a 3rd vendor to come out. We requested several times for this to be escalated to a manager and we never received any contact info to ensure a supervisor was involved.

The 3rd vendor comes out on 8/12. It's two techs who are supposed to diagnose the unit. They immediately start taking the unit apart. I asked them if they wanted to run the unit and they said no reason to. They sprayed water on the coil with a spray bottle and poured water in the pan. They could not see the leaking. I again asked them if they want to turn the unit on so they can see it running and how the water builds up and leaks. All previous technicians ran the unit. They took brackets off and pulled out the coil and removed the pan.

They started tearing foam on the roof and sticking it under the pan. I asked if they could professionally fix the unit. The tech told me he was angling the pan toward the condensation line and this was a temporary fix for the tenant so he could run the unit in the heat. He said his recommendation is replace the unit. I explained we can't run the unit with foam under the pan like this as we had to repair the bathroom and several other AHS techs did jobs like this and the unit damaged the property. They struggled for an hour trying to figure out how to put the unit back together and they left. We are shocked that Derek would expect us to repair the entire bathroom with a repair job like that. Derek once again denied the claim and said the unit was repaired and in working order which is just not reality. Should we repair the entire bathroom in hopes some foam under a pan is not going to leak again?

The techs never turned on the unit, not once to check it. It was a horrible botch job that we were told was temporary. The quality of technicians don't seem to be quality technicians with the level of expertise that would be expected. 3 denials from Derek with 3 different reasons, all different than what was explained to us by the technicians on the roof at the property. The tenant moved out and now there is loss of rent. The ac has not worked now for over two months.

I called American Home Shield on June 20th to get my A/C fixed cause it was making a loud noise. AHS sent a contractor out from Fire and Ice Heating and Air to fix the problem. When the Technician was done checking the unit he said the fan motor wasn’t working and the unit needed a new one. This was on July 6th. I called AHS on July 20th to see has the part been ordered and was told the retention center hasn’t received the notes from the contractor and to call back the following week so I waited and called back the next week just to hear the same answer from customer service. Then I receive an email from Fire and Ice to purchase a new 5 ton A/C unit which is $11k.

The same week I finally got a call back from AHS around the beginning of August to tell me the blower unit won’t be cover and will cost me $750 because the technician told them in the notes it’s a pre-existing condition and when I told them that’s not what the technician told me and I asked them to send me a copy of the notes AHS told me they couldn’t give me that info. So I preceded to call Fire and Ice and was told the technician notes can’t be shared with me also. So then I proceed to ask for a second opinion and the new contractors never showed up or called me back to set the appointment. So on August 15th called to cancel my service with AHS and was transferred 6 times before I finally got someone who would cancel my service contract with AHS and was told upon canceling I would have to pay $56 for an administration fee. I would rather pay out of pocket before I ever use American Home Shield again. Almost three months and no resolve.

The last few times I used American Home Shield, they sent people to my home who were from good companies. They were there for my washing machine and my garbage disposal. They replaced the garbage disposal and they had to replace a pump in the washing machine. They fixed the garbage disposal the same day. For the washer, they had to order the parts and they came back the next week. When you have a home warranty, you don't have to pay for costly repairs. When something is broken that's costly, it's beneficial to have it. I'd rather pay the $75 than pay $500, $600 or thousands of dollars to have something repaired or just have to go and get a new one.

We opened a service order a couple of weeks ago on our washing machine. They sent someone who thought he had repaired it. He gave us his direct number to get back to him if there were any issues. We did and he instructed us to contact American Home Shield to reopen the service request. But it's difficult to connect with AHS to do that process because it's not any of the automated options that they offer online or on the phone. It took them a few days to restart the claim.

Then, the original contractor transferred it to another one and that other contractor came. He made an adjustment to the work that the first contractor had done and said that he was not gonna close the service order on his end. He also gave us his direct line and said, "Call me if this doesn't resolve the issue." And so, we've been waiting to see if the issue was resolved. But, I got an automated notification from American Home Shield yesterday that they closed the service order when they shouldn't have.

Communicating with them can be challenging whether it's via the website or by phone. I also noticed that half the time, we get people who sound like they are working in the US, and the other half of the time, it sounds like we're dealing with people outside of the US. So I don't know if they have call centers outside of the US, or if they just do employ people for whom English is not their first language. That can make communication difficult.

I had American Home Shield in the past and it was great. If there was an issue, I’d call in and they'd send somebody out and fix whatever the issue was. Then I moved up here to Birmingham and got AHS. The fan on the outside heat exchange wasn’t blowing so they sent somebody out from Myers Comfort Specialist of Birmingham. The guy looked at the system and diagnosed the problem. The capacitor burnt out and he replaced it. It cooled the temperature and it worked great for about a week. But then it got down to 76 or 75 and it didn't seem to get below 75.

AHS has a thing where I can call back in 30 days and they'd send somebody back out. I called and said the unit is not cooling. They sent a second guy out and the guy said that the valve stem was leaking on the outside heat exchange. But the other guy had previously checked the system and he said everything was fine. He said you put some Freon in it and run it with no filter in the filter return, which I thought was weird because you always need to filter on an AC unit. He said he's gonna put two pounds and it's gonna cost $210. I said that usually, AHS covers that but he said they don't cover anything. He said I have to pay the full amount and he went ahead and did what he did to the system. He also offered to do a further inspection for $1,200 and said they have a system they can install that weekend for $4,000.

That night, it didn't work. There was no air conditioning and it was just blowing hot air. I called AHS back and they said they would get somebody out. It was the weekend so it took a couple of days. The same guy came back out five days later and looked at the system. He said I have a leak in the evaporating coil in the attic and I need to change out the thermostat. He put in a new thermostat and said the evaporating coil was gonna have to be replaced. He said he has to submit a thing to AHS. Then AHS calls and said I'm not covered because this is a preexisting condition.

I called Myers back and they said AHS doesn't cover anything for the first 90 days. There’s nowhere in my contract that says I have to have the warranty for 90 days before I can use anything. But they said I'm gonna have to pay out of pocket. They can't submit the claim as though it wasn't preexisting because they would lose that business and a lot of their business comes from AHS. I told them I heard from AHS that they told them that this was preexisting and that the radiator was leaking. They said they didn't say that. Why would the contractor even know when my contract with American Home Shield is? They are an unbiased person coming out. But Myers knew that.

I talked to the office manager at Myers who said they only submit that the cooling thing was broken after their guy came out the second time. But AHS gives them a call and asks if it could have been broken earlier and they say yes. But they have a policy from their interactions with AHS that anything within 90 days is not gonna be covered and if they try to get it covered, they're gonna lose that business so they just go along with AHS. If AHS is gonna offer insurance and coverage and they're not gonna cover for 90 days, then they need to be upfront about that.

When I joined up for American Home Shield, I called up them, had a plumber come, and it cost me the $100 service charge. The techs were very professional and I was impressed at their mannerisms. They came in, went straight to the job, and got it done, non-stop. There was one kid running, being the errand boy, getting the parts and going back and forth. They told me they'd be out of here in 30 minutes and they were out 25 minutes at the max.

Submitting the claim was fairly easy as well. I couldn't understand the people very well but they went to the extent that they got everything organized for me. Then my emails came promptly. Other than that, AHS had a gentleman come look at my washing machine. I wanted it fixed as I thought the spinner was broken. But the tech said that the whole machine is outdated and I need a new one. So, I’m getting a new machine. AHS gave me a $600 credit and I'm going with the product that they recommended that would get it replaced and installed. The process was quick. Our claim to American Home Shield on the AC unit took a couple of times to get completed. The people who came were the ones that have done quite a bit of the different things that we've had to have done, but they were the ones who were sent originally on the AC unit. The tech knew what he was doing, but I feel like he didn't look at everything. He was just looking for what may be the cause of the problem. So, we had to do a recall. They sent a higher technician who looked a little deeper, and we found the main problem in the unit. After that, the unit didn’t seem like it kept up, but we were also facing 100 plus degree weather.

The tech checked the Freon and everything and said, “Well, as far as we can tell, it looks like it has good pressure and everything.” We left on vacation the week before school started for the kids and when we came back, we noticed that the main unit on our main floor now is not cooling. I've had to call them in on that, and they're supposed to come out tomorrow morning.

I've continued to purchase American Home Shield. Ever since I've had them, anytime I've had an issue, they've sent somebody out, and I’ve paid my deductible, and it's been resolved. They've never once denied me or given me a hard time. So, I’ve recommended to other people, “Hey, it's well worth the investment, especially when you don't want to surprise.” The only thing is I had a replacement item and it was very difficult to get to the department that would handle that to ask any questions. Other than that, I've gotten my money's worth and my use out of being protected by the program that's why I continue to purchase it every single year.

The freezer wasn't working properly and the tech from ZTG Appliance Repair came out and checked everything, took the freezer apart, ordered a part and replaced it. He did a wonderful job and got it fixed. But on my initial call with American Home Shield, they sent somebody out. That person said he knew what it was and didn't even take the refrigerator apart. He said he was going to order a part and had me waiting for a month. He never called and said that he gave the appointment back to American Home Shield or to whoever. So, I had to call again. I checked the number that they gave me and he said he was still waiting on parts. He said it one time. I kept asking him when they were coming out because I was losing food and money. He stopped responding after that and then American Home Shield said he couldn't do it. He gave it back to AHS but I wasn't notified about that.

I just had the news that my refrigerator cannot be fixed. I don't wanna lose my fridge but it's not working. American Home Shield had people come after I paid my $100 and they did their best to try to fix the refrigerator. But the part is not available anymore. This fridge is probably over 10 years old. I was offered $1,300 or $1,500 for my fridge. The samples that American Home Shield gave to pick from are fridges for an apartment and it was a white fridge. My whole kitchen is stainless steel, black, and gray. American Home Shield should have asked me to send them a picture of what my kitchen looks like. They can't put in one of those little cheap fridges. This is a beautiful kitchen. I have a beautiful stainless-steel fridge and this model is not made anymore. In their wording, they said the price they came up with is equivalent to what they feel my fridge is worth and their samples are equivalent.

I thought that American Home Shield's maximum was 2,500. These fridges that I have are over the $2,000 price. It’d be around 3,000 for me to replace it to make it look like the rest of my kitchen. I read that I have to purchase a fridge right away or they don't give me the money. There's no real time to think. Supposedly, there’s a 21-day thing. I have to make that decision haphazardly and this refrigerator is a major investment. I also read a little clause that says I won't get a check until I buy a fridge, which puts me at the defensive. I have to be able to come up with cash to cover a fridge equivalent to it. American Home Shield is not really helping me and I’m just gonna have to take the loss.

Up until this moment, I was feeling really great about American Home Shield. It's like having insurance. You hope you never have to use your medical insurance but when you need it, it should be there. That's a great concept. Right now, I'm so stressed out about it because I just received the notice that that's what's gonna happen. I don't have a number I can call and it seems like everything is on the internet. Another thing is one of the techs made a mistake and I ended up getting charged another 100. American Home Shield took that off for me because it was still the original work order. That aside, I like my service with American Home Shield.

When I called American Home Shield the very first time for the AC, some guys came out and had to replace the compressor. They had not tightened the screws enough. So, it was leaking the Freon out. When the dude who just came a few weeks ago came, he noticed that they had not tightened it up and the caps were missing. He said that was the reason it was causing the air unit to freeze up because it was leaking out and it didn't have enough Freon in it. He just put new caps on there and tightened up the little plugs that he showed me that were loose, and then put more Freon in it and that was it. He was gone in 20 minutes. It didn't take them long at all.

I always call AHS when I do my claims. I don't do it online because I feel like if I talk to someone, we can get it done a lot faster and easier. Everyone I called and talked to from the company was very helpful and got me to the right people I need to speak to and everything and they'd let me know. They'll call me within 24 hours. They're very professional, very kind, and they really know what they're talking about and definitely get the job done as soon as I bring it to their attention and I really appreciate that.

American Home Shield knows what they're talking about. They get the right people for the job that needs to be taken care of in a timely manner and I would definitely 100% recommend them. It's been a great experience. Everyone's respectful on the phone. They want to make sure they can help you right away, especially if it's an AC problem in Florida.

I'm satisfied with AHS. I have been with them for a long time. Whenever I needed a service and I made a request, it didn't take long to get the service. But I hope they reduce the payment. For my AC claim, the techs came out right on time.

Seattle Home Appliance was wonderful. They came for the refrigerator and they fixed it. It was for a leak out of my fridge. The tech went above and beyond and was courteous and fast. Everything was terrific. I have not had the issue since. I called American Home Shield for a second item, which was a bathroom fan. It wasn't exhausting the way it should have been, and they sent me an electrician who said the fan was mechanically sound, but the venting might be an issue and they don't do venting. Based on that, I was out 100 bucks and no further along than I was when I made the appointment. I kind of wish that I had gotten more information that the insurance policy only covers mechanical and that they don't look at the vents or the ductwork. If I had known that, I would not have spent the $100 to have somebody get up on a ladder and tell me my fan was working.

My hot water heater went out and it was escalated. I went for two and a half weeks without hot water and had to boil water to even draw a bath for a house full of five people, kids included, and still did not have anyone sent to our house. American Home Shield's system is flawed. To my understanding, they give out a certain number of jobs to contractors and then they put a hold on them after a certain number of jobs have been given to them. Those contractors can agree to take on another job beyond that hold amount. When my air conditioning went out, I had it escalated because we were in the hundreds when it went out. It was extremely hot.

I contacted the local HVAC guy that participates with them and he was like, "Yeah. I can take you on. I can get out there today. But I have to have them release the hold." When you talk to customer service, the only way they have to communicate is emailing, which is not a very efficient way of doing things if you've got a situation that's escalated. So, he was having a hard time getting ahold of his point of contact to release the hold. He managed to get it done the next day. The only reason I was able to do it was because I was in contact with the contractor myself. If I had just relied on Home Shield to send someone out, it wouldn't have happened that fast.

The second time, the contractor got ahold of his guy the same day and was able to come out the same day and get it fixed. The other one, it was a few days where we were really hot. With the plumber, I didn't know who they participated with for me to even call. I know no one in this town participates with them. They said they've had bad experiences with them. All I got was a list of who not to call. Ultimately, they ended up saying, "You find somebody and you get them to come out and we'll reimburse you." I didn't even get to do that. I just bought a water heater and had someone who I know who has installed lots of water heaters with his boss' company install it. So, everything was out of my pocket and that was after two and a half weeks of waiting and then saying, "Oh, we're trying to get someone out there. We're trying to get someone out there."

Then, I have a bunch of appliances that have been approved to replace, but all the appliances that they have offered as replacements are out of stock. All of them but one don't fit. So, I'm going to have to try to take those measurements myself, buy them, take the payout, but then I'll come out of pocket for installation.

I've been with Home Shield for over 10 years and I never had these problems before. When they escalated the water heater, they didn't actually escalate it the first day I called. I called back the next day and the rep said, "No. It wasn't escalated, but I'll escalate." I sat there after I hung up with her and started kind of getting really upset. So, I called back and spoke with someone in the escalation department. They said neither of the two people that I'd spoken to that said that they would make it the top priority work orders had done it. Unfortunately, it didn't really matter because nobody could get anyone out here. I still have to replace all these appliances and try to find them on my own. Then I'll have to pay someone to install them.

If you don't use the ones that AHS suggests then you're going to pay more. You don't get as good of a deal and your payout doesn't cover as much. So, I'm not really happy. Once I get everything fixed, I'm gonna have to reevaluate. Some of the customer service people are not responsible and they can't help with how Home Shield has it set up and how the process works. It's not their fault but Home Shield overall needs to figure out a better way to do it especially in these times.
